The guy came out three times for two different problems. The first one was the air conditioner that was not turning on at all. He had some issues fixing it because there were three or four compounding issues. But he got it fixed the first time. He also gave me good notification on when he was gonna be out there and he showed up on time. He was great and friendly. The next day, it wouldn't turn off. Then some other stuff happened and it wouldn't turn back on afterwards. I called American Home Shield and had the contractor redo it. He came back out on the same ticket. He looked at it and figured out what the issue was. He didn't have the parts to fix it permanently right then and there but he was able to rig it to where it would work for a few days until he got the part in. A few days later, he got the part in. He brought it out, put it in, and it's been working great since.

We've had American Home Shield on the house that we are in now for about two months. But we've owned three other houses and we've had it on all of them. The only thing negative is we had to wait. Both times, it was about a three-day wait. We put a window unit in the bedroom to keep the bedroom cool, but if we wouldn't have had that the house would have been miserable because it was so hot. But if we would have told them it was an emergency, they may have done that. We are mid to end of summer and I'm sure they are extremely busy. But even that, the first time we waited, it was on a Friday and it was Monday when they got out there so it wasn't a big issue.

Pro-Tec came and fixed an icemaker. And then, my refrigerator wasn't cooling. They said it was some sort of a part that went missing. After a two-week time span, the part came in. Then they came in and refixed it. They were very pleasant. It's just when I called Home Shield and said, "Hey, my refrigerator has been down and it has been X amount of time. And I have lost food. I've had to buy food like three or four different times. And the refrigerator is not fixed," they said that in my warranty, they won't have somebody come and fix it and replace the food that I lost.

I've only had one issue with one technician. But the problem was that they didn't repair or fix whatever needed to get fixed. It was like when you go to the doctor and you're feeling horrible, and all of a sudden when you get there, they can't find what's wrong because that thing is not happening anymore. So, it wasn't anything on the technician's part. The thing that I had an issue with is the length of time. In order to have another technician come back out or have them come back out, it must have happened within 90 days' time, and it wasn't. Home Shield should change that crazy policy. If you know my refrigerator has been out for an X amount of time, common sense will let you know that you need to replace the food, and it shouldn't be the consumer's fault. Other than that, the process is simple. You pay your fee and then that's about the sum of it.

I like the assurance that if something big goes wrong, it's covered by my home warranty. Recently, I had a leaking faucet in the bathtub and AHS sent out the techs from Conklin Plumbing. They were very professional and very friendly. They fixed the leak and I haven't had any issue since.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and the website seemed easy to use and straightforward. I was told that I would hear from so and so within the day. Steinmetz HVAC was great and the guy who came out was very polite. He immediately suspected what the problem was. The capacitor on our HVAC was out and the contractor fixed that. It has been working fine ever since. We're not hot anymore.

The repair was smooth and it wasn’t a big hassle. We were having a bunch of other stuff going on at the same time and so, it was very nice to have an easy process where I didn't have to devote a lot of time and effort. It was just registering online and everything was taken care of. American Home Shield has been a good company for us. It's an older neighborhood with some older houses. I'm a former insurance adjuster and had lots of insurance claims that I handled where the pipes weren't covered for people. So, it's just a lot of peace of mind knowing that our plumbing’s got some coverage.

My son has American Home Shield and he kept trying to talk me into it. We've lived here for 40 years and things are bound to break down and both my husband and I are on a limited income. I finally called and set it up with the home warranty company, and I'm glad I did. So far, so good. We made a service request when we were having issues with our AC unit. Someone from the company Comfort Air Control came and he was very good. He also had a mask on. The issue was with the motor in the AC. He needed to replace a fan type thing fortunately, the part was in his truck. He did the job, which took 45 minutes, then left.

A friend of mine also has American Home Shield and she's never used it. But one day, her hot water heater broke. She called the warranty company and three days later, a contractor still didn't come out. I was a little concerned because my husband has already issues and we can't be without the air conditioner at that time. It was like 90 degrees. But we didn't have a problem. In fact, they wanted to come out the day we called but my husband and I weren't gonna be here. That was on a Friday. They came out Monday morning.

My air conditioner was clicking on and off and it was like the breaker kept breaking. Noland Harper then came out when they were supposed to, and they did what they were supposed to do. They were wonderful and now, everything's been working fine. Also, I called American Home Shield because no one is answering the phone, and I didn't wanna just go and pay money. I was trying not to pay the money until they came out because I'm still waiting for my dishwasher since May. I paid for that and here it is, September, and it's still not fixed. American Home Shield found me somebody new and they came out last week. They had to order parts, so hopefully they'll gonna come back ‘cause the other people never came back.

I filed 2 claims with American Home Shield - one was for a water heater and the other one was for the tub. I received a phone call saying that they received the order and that someone would come out and take a look at everything and determine how to proceed. I was also given a text on the day of the schedule that the contractor would be coming out. Within an hour of the person coming, he sent me a phone call and said they would be there around the specified time and they were there. They looked at the tub, said that there was some type of leak and that they could not repair it. For the water heater, there was a corroded piece that was presenting a leak. They replaced that fitting and did a great job with that. They were very friendly, customer service oriented and knowledgeable concerning the plumbing issue that we had. That was really good.

Everything has been fine but unfortunately for the tub, I was told that the claim was denied because it was the tub and not the pumps and jets. Had they investigated a little further, they would’ve realized that it was the jets that was the issue. I've called in to American Home Shield and could not get beyond the customer service person. I was also charged twice - one by HSA warranty and the other one by American Home Shield for the exact same amount within 45 minutes of each other for my card.

The issue still hasn't been resolved and I had no interaction with anyone concerning letting me get beyond the customer service person. They said, “We don't see where we charged you twice.” After four calls, I would think they would say, “Let me try to look further into this.” But she was adamant about that. I asked to speak to someone in Accounting and she shared with me that there's no accounting department but she said, "Fax to me proof that you were charged twice and send it to our accounting department.” American Home Shield was really good as far as their service and someone coming out. They were really informative. But getting beyond that initial call was not a good experience at all. American Home Shield has great reviews from other family members who’ve been with them but this was our first experience with them.

I recently had my dryer fixed. It just stopped turning on. This was our second claim with AHS and it was nice and easy. I just logged into my American Home Shield account. When I scheduled the appointment on the website, I got to pick the time. Then I got a text message confirming it. 'Cause that was a Friday, I got another text message on Sunday evening confirming. It was a two-hour window, and the contractors were 15 minutes early at the very beginning of the window. It was really great because I had been without my dryer for five days.

The contractors were great. He explained to my boyfriend what was wrong and he had a mask on. He was very respectful and talked to us about a couple of things, and fixed another thing that the last contractor wasn't able to. When the last contractor fixed our washer, the guy didn't replace the panel properly. So, he fixed the panel. I'm very satisfied with AHS. I recommend people get home warranties all the time. I'm a Realtor, so I'm like, "Yes, get it. It's so worth it."

The pool suction with the pump wasn't working. I submitted a claim to AHS online and it was real easy. Once I was able to schedule an appointment with the contractor, it was two weeks out. It would have been nice if it was a closer appointment. The contractor came out and they did social distancing. They tried to fix the pool pump, which I don't think is the issue. But I know they're just doing their job. They came with the sole purpose of fixing the pump, which is what the claim was for, but I think there's something obstructing the line between the pump and the pool. I would need to get ahold of another company or another contractor in order to clear the pipes. I've had Upland Pools come out and then The Pool Contractors. Now I would need the third company in order to clear the lines if it's covered under the same claim.

I was with Home Shield before and I had an issue with them regarding the air conditioner. I dropped them for a period of time and they reached out to me. Looking at other companies, they seemed to be the better out there. So, I decided to go back with them. I had been pleased up until that point. Recently, A-1 had to re-seal the refrigerator and adjust the door. They wore masks. However, I'm still having a problem with when Home Shield sent contractors out to do my toilet two times, and it's still not working properly.

Home Shield first sent Neace Plumbing out in March. The tech put a flapper on there, but that didn't solve the problem. What the problem was you have to flush it about three or four times before it would go down. Then, Home Shield sent Melton Plumbing out here on June the 23rd and I haven't heard a thing since. They said that the toilet needed to be replaced, and then that was the end of it. I called Home Shield on numerous occasions and couldn't get any satisfaction at all. I'm disappointed in their service. I called them out three times, and it was twice for the toilet and once for the refrigerator. I do not feel good about them.

    Reviewed Sept. 14, 2020

One thing that is really good about American Home Shield is that they do the response time very quickly. If I make a call on a Thursday, usually somebody is out by Monday which is pretty fast. That's a good turnaround time. Recently, S. Electrical Contractors had to do some wiring and everything's working perfectly. However, I had tried to call in and speak with a rep but the wait time is ridiculous. Doing it online is easier but all the choices that I'm looking for don't seem to be there. Maybe they're limiting their choices based on coverage. Also, American Home Shield only seems to want to just fix little repairs. If the kitchen faucet is an el cheapo faucet, they are more interested in just repairing it. I would go buy a brand new kitchen faucet and it would cost them the same to have the plumber to install the new faucet than to fix the repair with parts for the repair. But that's not an option with American Home Shield so I'm limited in the quality of the end result with them.

I understand sometimes they're thinking people are just trying to get something for nothing and that people want to get a brand new thing and they want American Home Shield to pay for it. But if I'm willing to pay for the faucet and they were already gonna pay the plumber X amount of dollars to do this repair and still have to go get parts for that, it may even cost American Home Shield less because they're not having to buy parts. They're just having to pay for labor. I want a new faucet on my sink because then I'm not gonna be worried about it going to break again. Plus, it's gonna look better because it's new. I also don't wanna keep fixing an old potty. I wanna get a new toilet in there and I want it to be installed correctly. I want it to work for years to come. I don't mind paying for a new potty. If a potty is broken, American Home Shield needs to pay for the repair. Why don't they just spend that money on installing my new potty that I bought? They're not very flexible in that.

Another thing is the people who owned the house that we bought installed a brand new really nice air conditioning unit. It was under warranty with the company that installed the unit but I paid $75 for a contractor to come out. Most air conditioning companies are charging $65 a pound of freon and American Home Shield will only pay for $10. They had to put in 12 pounds and I paid $55 out of my pocket for 12 pounds when I could have gotten a tank for $125 and done it myself. But if I do anything myself or if I get my own subcontractor to come and do it for less, they will not recognize it and it will cancel my warranty with them.

They have people from Phoenix City and Montgomery come to Auburn. If I had been doing this myself, I wouldn't have paid the $600 in the very beginning to get American Home Shield. I could have called any of the subcontractors that I already have a relationship with and they would have come out quickly and would have charged me less. I also wouldn't have had that $75 service fee that I pay to American Home Shield. I would not recommend American Home Shield to a friend but I would recommend every single one of the subcontractors. Every vendor that they have sent has been excellent.

I had a terrible experience with American Home Shield. I had an incident with my doorbell which had a low voltage issue. It wasn't working and neither was my address light. I had American Home Shield's contractor come out and they sent Ideal Services at first. The tech came and replaced our transformer but he wouldn't touch anything else because I had an ADT alarm. So, he just left. I had ADT come out, take all their alarms off and then I had AHS sent out another company. That other company came out and said that Ideal Services put the transformer in wrong.

The second company fixed my address light but not my doorbell which had a chime that wasn't working. The tech said that they couldn't fix the doorbell right then as they had to talk to AHS. A week later, I called AHS and they said they couldn't cover my claim 'cause of the diagnosis of the technician that found that my issue did not involve normal wear and tear. They couldn't share the diagnosis of the electrician and every time I would call them I was on hold for an hour. I would then talk to a call center where there is a language barrier. While I've had other good experiences with AHS, this claim was tough.

Communication by Home Shield could be improved. That would have solved a lot of issues. In this case, there was no communication. It's been a week since I canceled my claim and Ideal Services is still calling me to schedule an appointment to come out and give me a second opinion. Every time they call me, I would answer my phone and tell them that I canceled everything because of their crappy company. Still, they keep on calling.

All City Plumbing said that they didn't think the hot water heater was leaking, that it was the pressure relief valve that let go some water and that's the water that I saw. If that thing ever goes, I have 50 gallons of water in my floor in my basement so I didn't wanna play around that's why I called American Home Shield. The thing about a hot water heater is that I hope that if it does start leaking, it leaks slowly so I can call American Home Shield and get somebody out here.

Sometimes we get sent these private companies to us. Some are better than others. I prefer to deal with a major brand repair shop or a shop that is pretty well-known as opposed to these local mom-and-pop shops. I had two leaking toilets and the guys that came pulled up to my house in a station wagon. They even had to go to the local hardware store to get the wax ring. They did the job, but I would have preferred an actual plumbing company to come up in their truck with the equipment already on the truck.

It would be good if American Home Shield could make the process quicker for replacing. I have replaced two appliances through American Home Shield in the past - a dishwasher and a washing machine. From the time you call and the time you get the appliance, it could take three, four weeks. With a hot water heater, I'd be playing with fire if I had to wait four weeks for it to be replaced. In some cases, that's made me even wanna leave American Home Shield because it takes so dang long for that process to take place. In the case of the dishwasher and the washing machine, those are two appliances that a family uses every day. We had to wash our dishes by hand. I got a family of six. That was inconvenient. For the washing machine, we had to go to a laundromat for weeks and weeks and weeks.

The way it works is their repairman comes out. He says that the part is not available or the parts cannot be replaced. American Home Shield then does their checking and they verify that that's the case. I've had repairmen say, "I don't know why they have to do this because I've been doing this job for 30 years. I'm telling them the part is not available any longer." Also, some of the delays in getting a repair person out here can be substantial. When American Home Shield knows that a repair shop can't come out there within a few days, then they should try to go with the next option. For the hot water heater guy, I had to wait a week. American Home Shield should’ve said, "A week is not satisfactory. We should go to the next option."

Our Maytag washer of 20 years flooded all the rooms and floors adjacent to the laundry closet. We paid the $75 and AHS sent a Countrywide ProServ tech out quickly to help with the original mitigation strategy and then our insurance company kicked in. He said that the level switch failed. It's non-replaceable and the manufacturer doesn't make it anymore. It's been 20 years or so and the part is no longer available anywhere. That was on a Friday and he put his report in to AHS that time.

By Saturday, I called AHS and asked what's going on. We've got new flooring to bring in and we couldn't use the washer until all this gets done. I don't wanna force my poor wife to drive miles away and haul everything for laundromats which she hasn't done in years. The time is also very inconvenient. I was told by one of the representatives that they were still doing a part search. I asked why they would do that. The washer is too old and the manufacturer doesn't make the parts. I was not happy. I told them they should be putting notes in my account because this is just ridiculous. I just wanted to replace the washer.

I called every day and waited up to two hours till I got a representative. One day they said they were looking for the parts and I told them there were none. They said they needed five days to search for the part. I told them that they wouldn't need those days and that they could just check it with the internet in less than an hour. The next day, they said they were moving to authorization for the appliance replacement. Then they kept saying that I'd get an email and that someone would call me. Well, no one called, no one emailed. I finally gave up after a week. We had plans to go on a vacation so we went. I even called while I was there, except again, it would say that the calls were one to two hours wait. When the AHS service tell me their name is Jim and Rachel, they're not. I can barely understand some of those folks 'cause I think they farm out that service and as a customer, they really don't care about me.

A full week went by and Thursday, while we were on vacation, I got a call asking about our washer type. I told them that they knew everything about it, the Maytag heavy duty, high capacity, the model number. They've had that information for weeks. They said they need to know the inside measurements of the washer drum. I called my daughter who's house sitting for us. She ran around with tape measure. I feedback all of that.

Days later, again, which was on a Wednesday and we had an eight-hour drive that day, I told my wife to let the phone sit and call AHS. Sure enough, over two hours of wait, someone answered the call. The person said that they had everything they needed for our replacement options and sent us a link, which my wife finally ordered this morning after we got back and unpacked and settled. We got whatever they recommended, almost exact replacement for no cost. It'll be delivered in five to seven days. That's how long it's taking to replace a couple of hundred dollars washer. Because of that, my wife had to make several trips to laundromats and all the gas and time and nobody cared.

I'm so disappointed. This is just a stupid washer who has taken all this rigmarole and time. This whole thing, in my opinion, is poor timing and response on the part of American Home Shield. This is the one experience where we have to actually replace something and it's been awful. I would be mortified if we have an air conditioner fail on our home in the summer in Arizona. Who knows how long we would be out without it in our home. There's no way I would ever recommend AHS again or would I use them again in the year. I'll probably switch.

I had water leaking and I thought it was from my dishwashing machine. There was water all over the floor in my laundry room. I called Home Shield out and they a contractor within 48 hours. It was found that the leak was from my heating so Home Shield sent another company out without charging me an extra fee. Double D Heating came within a couple of days and the tech from there was very nice and supportive. He explained to me what the issue was and showed me what to do the next time so I didn't have to call Home Shield.

The piping to my air conditioning system was clogged. According to the tech, I'm supposed to pour a capful of bleach in the piping system and that will keep things from clogging. There is a place to put the bleach in sitting right in front of my furnace. The tech explained that because we used the air conditioning a lot, the build-up came about. With that one call, I had several of my appliances in my house fixed at the same time. Everything has been working fine since then. I'd recommend AHS. I know a friend that has a different home warranty program and her experience has not been as smooth.

Mr. Fix It came out and assessed what I needed for my washing machine and ordered the parts. Then, when the parts came in, I called them. the tech came and fixed it. So, it was very flawless unlike my current appliance problem. I have another repair, but Sears is the one handling them. I have been without a refrigerator since August 26th. It's been a little over a month.

With Sears, it's been horrible. When they came out and they assessed the parts, the parts came, I called and they said the parts were here. I had to miss two days of work because they stiffed me twice. They made an appointment, I sat here and waited, and the person never showed. So then I called and they said they were running late, and then they changed the time. I waited, and it was hours later. So I called again and they said, "Oh, he's not coming." They did that to me twice.

Finally, they had a guy come out Saturday of this week to fix it. I didn't have all the parts, so he couldn't fix it. So they had to order another part, and that came Saturday. They told me if it came Saturday to call them, and they would come out here and they would fix it. It came Saturday about two o'clock. I called them and they never answered my phone. They told me to text them. They did neither. They've left me hanging. So I called American Home Shield to tell them all my concerns with Sears, and they managed to get somebody to come out today. Hopefully, they don't call and cancel again and this issue will finally be put to bed.

Overall, American Home Shield helped me. I talked to a guy on Saturday to tell him that this issue had not been resolved and what Sears has been doing. He put me on hold and he did his research. I don't know who he got ahold of at Sears, but he got ahold of somebody up the food chain and put me in touch with them to schedule an appointment. They wanted to come out the 3rd of October. I said, "Absolutely not. Not that I'm more important than anybody else, but you can't tell me somebody that just recently developed a minor problem, you can't put me ahead of them since you basically, you know, have made my life hell for a month." So, she finally wheeled the schedule around and got them in today versus Saturday.

Other than Sears, having American Home Shield has been very beneficial. I've only needed them once when something happened to the machine. I ended up with Sears when the refrigerator first started because the first contractor they sent out to me said they couldn't be here in three weeks. So I was said, "Three weeks?" Now here I am five weeks later but that was how I ended up with Sears. American Home Shield had nothing to do with Sears. AHS is a good company. It's not their fault Sears jerked my chain. What I should've done two weeks into it was tell them that my refrigerator wasn't fixed. It's my responsibility to let them know when people are not doing their job that they send out. But they could've called Mr. Fix It for my refrigerator.

I've been an American Home Shield customer for years. I'm in the process of a claim now. The tech came out and he recommended that they didn't have the parts for the refrigerator, the washer, and the microwave so they had to provide a new one for that. They couldn't repair them so I went ahead and purchased and submitted the proof of receipt for all three of them, and I'm waiting on the reimbursement from American Home Shield. I'll be happier when I'm reimbursed for the appliances I bought, but they said it can take up to 21 days to be reimbursed on that.

Like I always do, I called American Home Shield to file the claim and the tech came out. I purchased the house a year and a half ago, and I always keep American Home Shield. I have them on the other house too. So I've had American Home Shield for about 10 years, and the tech's been a reliable source with American Home Shield. I always have a satisfactory experience with American Home Shield. They're always reliable and punctual. I love American Home Shield and I recommend them to everybody.

Appliance Professionals is great. I've dealt with two of their technicians, and both of them have been highly professional and exceptionally knowledgeable. They're always fully masked and very accommodating as well. They've been really outstanding. They explained the issue to the extent that they knew. I called them again over the weekend because of the problem that they attempted to fix last time. Whatever they did didn’t appear to completely solve the problem, so they're coming out tomorrow to escalate the conversation with Bosch.

We've had problems with the dishwasher since mid to late August and when I first contacted American Home Shield, they sent out Sears. This was the second time Sears had come out. They came out, originally, for a different problem, so I didn't think anything of them. They came in, and their technician seemed to be fine. He did an initial evaluation, thought he'd solved the problem, and went away, but the problem wasn't solved. I contacted AHS and they scheduled another appointment with Sears on a Friday, but the technician never showed up.

I contacted Sears, and they said, “Oh, well, technician was ill this morning and didn't show up to work. So we're gonna have to reschedule.” I said, “Okay. Monday works fine for me.” They said, “No, we're not gonna be able to get you on a schedule for another two weeks.” That was completely unacceptable to me, and I went around and around with them on that.

Eventually, they sent me back to AHS and AHS said, “Well, yeah, that's not acceptable. So we'll send the Appliance Pro group out.” Appliance Professionals was able to come out the middle of the following week and they've been very responsive. Their people on the phone are great. I'm not happy with Sears and I won't have Sears come out again, but I have been happy with the Appliance Professionals. I'm also happy with American Home Shield so far. We moved in in the end of May and I got the service as part of buying the new house.

WeatherWise, one of their contractors, was the best heating and cooling company I have worked with. They called promptly, wore masks and they were efficient. The people behind the scenes in their office were very helpful and accommodating. I've had them out twice already, once for my air conditioner and again for my heater. He looked at the faucet and was talking to me about how long ago it was put in. He said that they had a faucet there that they could put in but it would be a different style. But since the faucet we had was installed four months ago, it was still under warranty. They had to do a warranty swap to get a new faucet. We had to wait three days for them to put in the warranty. A tech then came back three days later and put in the new one. It's working fine.

It was difficult making the claim with American Home Shield. I called and told them that we had just installed our faucet and that it wasn't working anymore. I wanted the company to come back out and check. They made me pay another $75 for the guy to come out to reassess the problem and to put a new faucet in. They said after 30 days, one has to get charged again. It's also pretty difficult to get ahold of someone at American Home Shield. I'm always on hold for 45 minutes before I can talk to somebody.

When something goes wrong, you need to make multiple phone calls and you are placed on hold from 1-4 hours on each call (no exaggeration!). The representatives all say the right stuff (i.e. "I understand your frustration..." and "I will fix the issue...") but AHS doesn't empower them to escalate/resolve issues. Their website always says: "Issue complete" when it's not complete, which then requires another call to straighten them out. We are not big complainers. He was very professional and I appreciated that. The capacitor that went out and he replaced it. The only negative thing was that I paid $75 for him to come out here and when he left, he had an additional $140 in his pocket. That aggravates me. Typically, what happens is they come out and they go, “Okay. Yeah, your warranty covers this part, but you need this. And if you don't do this, then it could cause more problems that's not covered under your warranty.” So you're kinda put in a rock and a hard place. I don't appreciate that at all.

I had to write the tech a check because he said that the AC lacked coolant and I needed two pounds at $70 each. I knew that the problem was the capacitor. But I figured I would let American Home Shield handle it since I've been paying all this money for it. Right now, I’ve spent more money on monthly premiums than I have saved on the coverage using it.

We got the issue resolved and our water heater is fixed now. We had another claim for our pool heater and that process was not very good. When I tried to call, I was on hold for over an hour before I ever even spoke to a representative. Filing a claim over the phone takes very long. From there, the claim was partially covered which was fine. But the guy who called to tell us that it was not gonna be fully covered did not have any information and couldn't explain it. That part was very frustrating.

American Home Shield needs to make their representatives more aware. It was like their rep was reading from a sheet and it was only the things he was allowed to answer. And the things he was reading had nothing to do with why the claim wasn't fully approved. When you ask to speak to someone who can help like a supervisor, they don't wanna do that. I tell them I need some help but it was really difficult to get any actual response. American Home Shield should educate their people a little bit better or their reps should make better notes in the computer system so they can answer questions.

The gentleman from Majestic Custom Heating & Air Conditioning did some work on the air conditioner roughly a year ago, so he knew who I was when he came to the door. The strangest thing was happening with my garage door. It was opening by itself but it wouldn't open or close when I wanted it to. It was crazy. It was in the house when I have bought the house and I've been here for 11 years now. I don't know how long these things are expected to last. Mr. Fix It came and their tech said something wasn't talking to the other. They sent the order in that same day that the mechanics of the door needed to be replaced. Before I could even call American Home Shield and to ask if the guy told them about the thing that needed to be replaced, the guy was calling me trying to see the time to come out and install it. I was like, "Whoa, you just left here, dude."

In a matter of a day or so, Mr Fix It was back and the thing was installed. They were very professional and respectful. But they left their ladder and I texted them about it. The man said he already cleared the area but he would be back in the area on a particular day. I told him to give me a text or a call and let me know. They did that and when they let me know they were pulling in, I opened the garage, he grabbed his ladder and I closed the garage back down and thanked them. I told him to have a good day. I have no problem with Mr. Fix It and I will recommend them to anybody to do anything. It was just two guys but they were very nice.

After the service, the garage door has been working okay. The only problem that I'm having at this point and I'm not sure why that is so is every time I open or close the garage door or I put my car in, sheetrock is falling down on my car. I thought perhaps it was from initially doing the work. When Mr. Fix It left, I didn't have any expectations of that happening. It's not like I as told to expect it either until the motor gets adjusted in the groove. But it's still happening and it's not like it's a little bit. It's beginning to get concerning and I'm not sure what else can be done. The ceiling in my garage is popcorn. I'm hoping that it doesn't get worse. Eventually, I'm sure it'll kinda wear itself in there and it'll get used to that thing being opened and closed.

Other than that, the company that I dealt with was the best. As a matter of fact, I've reached out to their guy since just to see if he does a certain type of work because I needed something else done. He told me he would do it if I already have the existing electricity. But if not, it was not something that he could do. But I got me some Fix It people for real because I'm gonna keep running it by him first. I've dealt with them and I like how they do business. That's why for any little small thing around the house that they can do, I'm gonna throw it to them first because they've already been to my home. I like how they were when they were at my home and I would rather deal with them first as opposed to going to HomeAdvisor. New stuff like that is a crapshoot. You don't know what you're gonna get. You got to hope that they're as nice as Mr. Fix It.

This Sunday was when they delivered. The man who came to install it was very good. He came in and it took him 30 minutes to complete the installation. He was very nice and professional.

We've been with AHS for maybe 10 years and we've always had some very good technicians come out. We've always had good results on the scheduling between the technicians and ourselves. But when we have to have something replaced, I always have the same problem with AHS. The CSR is very unprofessional and I had two of them hang up on me. No one seems to know exactly how anything is supposed to go as far as from one department to the next. So, there always has to be some clarification between one department and the other. One person understands how it's supposed to go and the other person does not. There needs to be more cohesion between the departments about standard procedures.

The refrigerator was making some loud noises and the gentleman from Lafayette Refrigeration came out. He looked at it and he needed to order some parts. He ordered them, came back and fixed what that thing in the back of the refrigerator was doing as well as the ice machine. Then, there was a follow-up because the door handles came off. So, he just ordered it and replaced it. The technician seemed to be knowledgeable about the types of problems they've seen with this refrigerator with other people. He seemed to be having issues with it when he was trying to fix it but then it worked, and it has been fine ever since.

I did the claim online to American Home Shield portal and then, they called. We scheduled a time and the contractor came out. When I did the follow-up, I did it through the online portal as well. The website was fine but I couldn’t add a lot of detail in it. It did what it was supposed to do. I was able to get the service and they put the follow-up in it. There was a lot of time in waiting for the part though. Both times, it might've been a week to a week and a half.

D2 was fine overall because it was a couple of things that the person looked at but they didn't fix the toilet. Nobody's ever available to talk with at American Home Shield and they seem to use the same people over and over and they're not great. The best experience I've had is with the pool person but they don't seem to be top-rated professionals. Also, AHS keeps going up so I will be looking into another warranty program.

It is very simple and it is easy to navigate through the online system. They got back to me really quickly. They told me that the air condition people would call me within 24 hours and I got a phone call from A-US Air Conditioning 15 minutes later.

The first technician who came out was on time. He called me before he came out but then he called me again when he was 20 minutes away. Then the second one couldn't fix what was wrong. He was too big to get into the area that needed to be fixed. So another guy came the next day. He gave me a time frame. It was a big chunk of time between 12:00 and 4:00. The guy got here at 4:30. My husband and I were frustrated 'cause it was hot. We have smaller kids in the house. We were driving around in the car just to get them an AC. I was texting him and I called him but he didn't answer. I also sent a text message to the number that he sent me the ETA from and asked them what time would they be here. But the guy was really nice when he got here.

Having American Home Shield, we don't have to worry about spending a ton of money. We've had our air conditioner heater worked on the most because it is older. If it ever has to be replaced, we know we won't have to be out a lot of money. That's what we keep the home warranty for, mostly. I prefer doing claims online. It's really easy to do that and it's quicker than calling it in.

We did a claim when we had an issue with our oven and Zerr Appliance was assigned to come out. The tech knew what was wrong with it. It ended up being some kind of circuit board. The tech said the part was back ordered and it took about a month to come in. With everything going on with COVID, there are some issues with back order so we were fine with that. The day the part came in, the tech came over here and put it in. Our oven is working fine now.

I'm glad that I got the policy with American Home Shield. I feel pretty secure that if something happens, they would be there for me. They were very punctual and called back right away for a claim I had. They took my deposit and got me a plumber. The plumber came out and evaluated everything. He was so knowledgeable. I had other people look at the issue and they couldn't figure it out. But the plumber who came figured it out immediately. I ended up soliciting his services to fix the things that were not covered and I thought it would be a really expensive bill. But he was very fair with his prices on things that were not covered. I would hire him again as my plumber. He was that good.

I had about four or five plumbing issues like the stopper not working. There was only one thing that American Home Shield covered out of all the issues I've had. There was a part missing from a handle so that wasn't covered. There was a leak in the bathtub but the plumber said it was not covered. I understand because it didn't seem like it was something that was covered. It was caulking. But we didn't know where the leak was coming from. The plumber also fixed something in the shower that was covered. The guy was very professional even in his approach of letting me know what was covered and what was not. He was very matter-of-factly but very polite in his presentation and communication. I appreciated that.

Everything about the plumber was stellar. I was totally impressed. I also was very impressed with American Home Shield for having technicians like that that they send out. Also, the receptionist that answered the phone always returned the phone call within a few minutes if she was busy on the other line. I never had to wait very long at all. I switched from the home warranty companies I was with for 15 years to American Home Shield. That was about a year ago. Their website is fine in terms of getting on once you get on. But there seems to be a really long delay when you press your account or you request service. I've tried it from work, my desktop, and my phone. The other thing is there's a PDF or there's something over there on the right to see your actual warranty and what’s covered. When you click on My Warranty Coverage, the breakdown doesn't come up easily. There are some lag issues. Sometimes you have to kinda go a long way around the website to find your actual list of what's covered and what's not covered.

There should be an improvement on the website thing. Also, the turnaround time is a little slow. I've had three service issues in the last four months. AHS took four or five days while the other warranty company I had before was only about one to two days. But it wasn't a pressing issue so they haven't bothered me. But if it was a pressing issue, four or five days is a long time. Otherwise, we’ve been happy with AHS so far. For an issue with our dishwasher, AHS sent out Revolff and their tech handled it really well. He was really professional and he informed me as he went through repairing what the problem was. He went above and beyond what I expected even when he first came.

I don't have a working bathroom. I had three different plumbers come out. The first one said they couldn't clear the blockage. The second one came and he claimed he had been able to clear the blockage but apparently, it wasn't because a few days later, the problem reoccurred. I called again about the same issue. It was either a leak or a blockage. The initial plumber said it was stoppage. When I submitted a recall again, the guy said that it was possibly a leaking pipe. Either way, by the third time, I ended up having to pay twice, and it was all the same issue.

The first guy said he couldn't continue and that the home warranty needed the camera approved. It would be nice to have known that. When I called back that evening, the lady said she was gonna get an approval for a camera which she apparently did. When the second plumber came out, he said he didn't own a camera and he didn’t get an approval for one either so he couldn’t solve the problem. When it wasn't solved, they called a good time to try to recall it. They made a mistake with the rescheduling. Someone else finally came out and the guy identified that there is something blocking the system but that he needed the camera and it’s my HOA that will be responsible. At least he gave me that information which the other two weren’t able to do.

I’ve had a good experience in the past that's why I renewed the policy with American Home Shield. I had them again in my previous home. I rarely use their services but when the contractors did come out, they were great that’s why I was kinda confused this time why they weren't able to help me. It's silly for them not to have a camera or not make that an option. If the consumer is gonna go with the warranty company, or if the consumer in the future decides to use a plumber, that they would call on that plumber being that it's a local plumber. Both companies are keeping themselves from keeping the consumer because they're not presenting the offerings. They're really not expensive. It's $500, $600 equipment and they're making it impossible for someone to use it.

I was also a little disappointed with the plumbers ‘cause once they got here, they said it was not approved by the warranty company but at no point did they offer the option to pay out-of-pocket directly to the plumber to have the problem resolved. That's disappointing because ultimately, you're calling ‘cause you have an issue that you need repaired. You would think that that would be an option or at least when they submit their report, to provide the solution to the issue that that’s not covered with the warranty and allow the warranty company to even offer it. No one's offering the solution to solve the problem. They're just saying they don't cover it but that doesn't make sense.

We were in California before and we had American Home Shield there for two years. We had them in Colorado for a couple of years too. We moved here to Potomac in February and we also have the warranty. Aside from AHS, we used another company also and I was very dissatisfied with them. I found AHS to be more prompt in managing things. They were prompt in getting someone out there when the chain on our garage door wouldn't work. It wouldn't go up or down and the chain had disintegrated. The guy from 495 Garage Door took care of it very nicely and we never had any problems. We were very pleased with that experience.

Sometimes there is a bit of a breakdown in AHS' claim process. We have an ongoing claim with our refrigerator where they've been trying to figure out what's wrong with the freezer and that's been going on since March. They send somebody out and they think it's fixed then they have to come back. I know it's complicated with the Coronavirus. It also depends on the size of the company that's doing the work like if it's a smaller one and they don't have as much availability. But we're still working at that. Hopefully, it'll be resolved in the next couple of weeks. They've ordered another part and we'll see if that does the job.

For people considering warranty options, try and make sure you will get what's covered. The deductible is pretty much the same with all the companies depending on how large your house is. We have a $100 deductible. With these companies, AHS is probably better. In trying to contact someone, they wanna steer everybody to doing that on the internet, but sometimes you wish that there is a number that you could call in directly when you're trying to report an issue and talk to someone and it wouldn't be outsourced.

My dishes weren’t drying and the inside was getting kind of black and maybe mildewy. It seemed dirty. The most annoying thing was that my dishes would never dry, especially on the top rack. I filed a claim to American Home Shield and the contractor came out. Ronnie, the technician from Quality Appliance, was awesome. He kept me informed along the way and he was very polite and professional. He determined that the heating element, that coil in the bottom of your dishwasher, was out for whatever reason. So, he ordered a new one through American Home Shield. The part was on backorder and there was a long delay.

The technician came and installed the part. I ran the dishwasher just with a cleaner in it to see how it would do. When I opened it, I noticed that that new heating element had melted the bottom of my dishwasher. He didn't install it improperly. It's just almost like it got so hot that it melted it. He determined that it was not fixable and I would have to get a new dishwasher. I bought one from Lowe's and it has been installed. It solved everything. American Home Shield provided me $632 towards a new dishwasher, which only covered a little over half of the new dishwasher but that's okay. I've had AHS for about 13 years since my last two houses. I've always renewed my contract with them. I like the peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong, I have something in my back pocket to hopefully get it fixed and that it's not completely out of my pocket. I'm pleased with AHS.

The guy from Ace's Garage was outstanding. The little remote control to my garage door had to be HotSynced and he was very professional and helpful. It was a simple repair, but he did it very quickly and explained what he was doing, so he did a really good job. The issue I have with American Home Shield is trying to get follow-up. I make appointments and it's all done electronically through voice activation.

The voice would ask about what I need and I tell them. They ask me to pay $75, and they would send somebody out and then I give them my credit card. It's all automated, but we've had some issues with our washer, and the follow-up on it has been very difficult. I called and the wait time is stupid. It would be a three-hour wait, but I can't sit on the phone for three hours. That's the biggest challenge. The other thing is if they can hire people that has English as their first language, that would go a long way.

Everybody wants stuff done yesterday and they want it done at half the cost, so people are gonna lose stuff. They're gonna lose speaking to someone where their first language is English. American Home Shield fields their calls out overseas and those people try their best to relate or make a connection to you when you're talking to them, but you could tell they're reading a script. Every once in a while, I'll have somebody from the United States, and those conversations go so smoothly. Someone who has English as their first language, they get it.

When I ran any faucet or flush any toilet, it sounded like the pipes were moaning in my walls. I submitted a request online. The website was okay but it was kind of limiting. I wish that I could add more information to fully document everything. I was then alerted that the information was forwarded to United Air Temp and that they would be contacting me. They contacted me quickly. They were great and their tech was wonderful. He was very professional and courteous. He explained everything and he answered all of my questions. Communication was very good.

This claim was a follow-up request because the issue wasn't fixed on the first part. Now, everything is working properly. I don't have any more weird noises coming from my pipe. Now, I'm not afraid to use any of the faucets or flush any of the toilets which is a good thing. American Home Shield was very helpful and fixed what I had asked them to fix.

It was a very good service with Stockdale Service Company. The young man came out here to check out the air conditioner after I've gotten a quote from another company to replace the whole outside unit. He said I didn't need to replace the whole unit. I just needed a new fan. He opened it up, took the fan out, took the motor out, put a new motor in, put the fan on it, and it's worked fine since. I’m very pleased with my experience. It was a very good one with very little difficulty.

We've had very good experience so far with American Home Shield. We've had them since '99, so it's been a long time. When our breaker initially was being tripped, I had to go out and keep flipping the breaker back on. The condenser that's located outside then stopped spinning, so I turned off the AC inside the house, so that it wouldn't burn up anything. I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out. The gentleman from Efficiency Experts checked the unit, and he said that the capacitor was the issue. He replaced it and the AC seemed to be working fine. It was cooling on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but then on Saturday, the breaker started tripping again. It wasn't even hot and it was at nighttime.

I went out there, flipped it on and it was fine. It kept cooling and then on Sunday, it did it a few times too. I thought it was odd, and then sure enough, I noticed that when I flipped it back on by Sunday night, it wouldn't come on. I just turned it off and that's when I called Efficiency Experts to come back out again since they had recently been here that week. A different gentleman came out to fix the air condition the second time and I told him that it was doing the exact same thing before they replaced the capacitor. He said he would look at it and after a while, he said that he replaced the motor and then we signed the little paper.

I don't know generally how long motors last, but I thought last year when I was having air condition issues that a motor had been replaced. I could be wrong though. Anyway, the gentleman said that was what the problem was and it's been working fine since then. The contractors were very nice and friendly. I didn't have much interaction with the second guy that came out, but the first gentleman was thorough. As far as being helpful, they worked with me to squeeze me in and it was the same thing with the second time around.

The problem appeared to be fixed at that time but it appeared again after about a month. Then the second one came and they fixed it again. It was the same issue but two different companies came in to fix it. There should be a way to have the same company to come again because they knew the problem. Other than that, I'm pretty satisfied with American Home Shield. I just had to call them and everything was smooth.

He has come out several times for me. He’s always prompt, efficient, friendly and the work gets done. The experience with A-ZAP was wonderful but the experience in trying to contact the customer service of AHS was totally unsatisfactory. They used a call center with people who were difficult to understand. When I asked for a supervisor, I was hung up on and disconnected on two tries. I dialed three separate numbers to get ahold of customer service and was either hung up on or told that the wait was gonna be an excess of 50 minutes. None of that was satisfactory.

With our recent claim, Marchman Plumbing came out. The guy's proficiency was good. He knew his business and did it in a timely manner, and was very courteous and nice. The plumbing issue was caused by aging. Apparently, through the piping that was underneath the sink in the utility room where it just sort of pour out and had sprung a couple of leaks. He replaced it with a new piping and a different valve that took care of that. It's still working right.

However, I've had problems with American Home Shield in the past and I've been with them now for around 20 years. We're up in Northern California near a town of Bridgeport. Up to now we had no plumber, electrician repair, or certified company close within about 60 miles. I had to find my own people then get them on and I had to go through all kinds of protocol to get approval. When a guy comes 60 miles and checks it out and then he's supposed to put in an estimate and come back in two days, that's a bit much. I didn't quite understand that policy. I know it's very difficult, particularly when the weather's bad.

In one occasion, we had snow and we had quite a problem with a leak where a pipe had busted, but the guy couldn't do anything about it till the guy went through this so called protocol, and if he won't put it through properly, then AHS won't pay for it, or it's almost like a fine. In this case, I had to pay upfront first because I just couldn't wait. I didn't go through protocol or the guy didn't go through it, and even though I explained the situation about why it had to be that way, under the conditions, there was apparently no exception.

There was another problem with some of the payment. So I went ahead and paid it but I was very upset. I went to the California Regulatory Business, the agency in California that takes care of complaints like this. I wrote to them and explained what had happened with American Home Shield with the situation, and by golly, they got ahold of American Home Shield and they reimbursed me part of that money.

I've been following up this refund since this happened way back last November. AHS said they sent out a check, which I never received. Last month I tried to find out what happened and after going through several people, they finally found the statement that had been sent in way back and they said they would be sending me the refund now. But of course being up in the mountains, I haven't been down in our home in the city so I don't know whether that check has been sent. But they're supposed to do it. They're not aware of what the problem is. They ought to be more lenient with that type of protocol that they use particularly for customers who live up in the hills.

The motor had seized up on the dryer and when I sent in a claim with AHS, they sent out a tech who replaced it. They handled it properly and to my satisfaction. With AHS, you got to know what is covered and what's not. For example, I had another recent job through a leak on an air handler and apparently, it was caused by a cleaning that needed to be done. So, that was extra 100 bucks on top of the charge and my $75 fee didn't give me anything. The techs just came out, told me what was wrong but said that I couldn't fix it unless I paid for the extra piece to the company. So there are a couple of little things like that that needs to be noticed and it's better to read the fine print on a lot of things.

I put a claim in for two ceiling fans that were outdoor on my back patio which is part of my foundation. When I called in, I told AHS that it was on the back porch. They said there was no problem, took the $100 payment, and sent an electrician out who said that the fans need to be replaced. Then, AHS came back saying that they couldn't cover it because the fans were on the patio. That kind of pissed me off as I told them before that they were on the patio. The guy should not have opened the ticket and should have told me that if that was the case instead of taking $100, because now, they won't give it back.

Other than that, the only other claim I filed with AHS went fine. It was for the dryer and it was an overdrive. Since I couldn't wait two weeks for them to get a replacement, I had to go out and buy one. I have three kids so I had to do laundry. After I bought one, I told AHS that I wanted to do the cashout and they wrote me a check.

I would share both my experiences with other people to let them decide. The one with the fans was a crappy one and makes me decide if I want to switch and go to a different company. It's a really big one and these fans are $300 apiece. And AHS didn't even tell me that my claim was denied, I just got an email saying that the ticket was closed. Then I got a letter two weeks later saying that it wasn't covered. When I called in, I explained to them the situation and they said they have to go and check out the recordings. They said they'd call me back but no one ever called back or did anything. Then they sent another letter saying that they were not going to cover the replacement. I would be fine with them not covering if they would refund my $100 back and I would love it if they would call me to work through this.

    Updated review: Oct. 19, 2020

It took about 3 months to get my air conditioner fixed but finally it has been fixed and problem is resolved and I do plan to renew my contract with AHS.

    Original Review: Sept. 12, 2020

We started out with having a heating and air person come out from AMP. And they said, "There's nothing wrong with the air conditioner." And then I said, "Well, there is something wrong with the air conditioner because it went off again." So, then they came back out again. They said, "Well, it's not the problem with the air conditioning. It's with the electric." So, Ideal Electric came out. We only had one electrician company come out. They said there was nothing wrong with the electrical part. Then the air condition man came back out again. And it was just back and forth. The air condition people say it's not the air conditioner, and then the electric people say it's not the electric.

Finally, I requested a second opinion with a different company with the air conditioning. They came out and said, "Oh, yeah, the compressor. Condenser needs to be replaced." I said, "Okay." But Home Shield did not order a new compressor. That company actually sent it back to Home Shield, and then it went back to the original people. I don't even know how many times those people have come out. So, after the second opinion came out, Home Shield sent it back to the original heating and air person, who I don't trust now at all. I guess they decided they weren't gonna do anything. We're sitting here since July the 21st with no electric. I've had phone calls with Home Shield and waiting in line for an hour and 30 minutes every time.

Ideal Electric took the compressor apart and they showed me. And then a person from air condition and heating said, "Yes, it needs to be replaced." They even took pictures of what was wrong with it and gave it to Home Shield. Obviously, it needed to be replaced because it's still not working. I hope that the condenser has been ordered. I was told by the last people that came out, that they ordered it. I was hoping to hear something back this week, but I have not heard anything back about the condenser being replaced. It doesn't work even a bit. You can't turn it on. No matter what you do, it's broken.

I don't know the status right now, because I thought I would hear something back this weekend. I have not heard anything from anyone. I'm still in a situation with not having heating and air. At first, I was told it would take two weeks to a month. I don't even know what to do now. But sometimes I call Home Shield and they act like it's gonna be taken care of. My husband is 71 years old and not in very good health. It has been very difficult. I never had a problem with Home Shield before. So, this time, it has just been a problem. I'm very dissatisfied because the problem has not been fixed.

The first couple of times someone came out, they did not do anything. So, then I started sitting out there to watch. The tech didn’t do anything with the air conditioner. He took it apart, and he showed me what was broken. And then he had me sign a receipt, which said everything was fixed. I said, "Well, I need for you to write on here what is broken." He didn't seem to be too happy with my request, but he put it on there. He put what was broken. He did not seem to be happy by me requesting that he actually write down what was wrong. There was part of the compressor that was broken. So, from now on, I will be very careful about what I sign. And he did not put my carbon copy underneath the original. He wrote it on my paper and then he wrote something else on his paper. I asked him if he would put the carbon paper underneath the original, but he didn't. I'm not happy with the AMP.

The electric company that came out was very nice, but overall, Home Shield does not seem to be very interested in getting my air conditioner fixed. And for all I know, they may not even have ordered the condenser. I'm so tired of calling Home Shield and not really getting anywhere with that. I plan to renew my Home Shield because it has been very good in the past, but this time, it has not been good. I'm not gonna stop calling to get this thing fixed. But I should not have to do this. I should not have to be on hold for an hour and a half and still not have air. It’s very hard.

The garage door opened, but then when I wanted to shut it, it wouldn't shut. I'd never had a garage door opener, so I didn't even know anything about garage door openers. I didn't know what to do. I found out that what happened was I blocked a sensor with something, so it was no big deal. The biggest surprise to me was that I had to pay Home Shield $75 because I didn't order it. The real estate agent did. I didn't have any understanding of what the whole deal was, that I would have to pay somebody to come out. I thought I'd call and the contractor would come out and fix it, and then that was it.

To pay $75 and just had somebody come out and say, "You screwed up," wasn't cool. Other than that, I would recommend Home Shield because if you're moving into a new home, you should protect yourself. This is my second one in 34 years. My nephew said, "This is a new home for you, so get American Home Shield." I thought he should know what he's talking about. He bought three houses. So I said, "Yeah, okay, I guess he's right."

We have two air conditioning units and the thermostat on one of them went out and the one downstairs just wasn't cooling. I went online to file a claim with AHS and the website is okay but they don't give a place to request to not send a certain company. The first time we had air conditioner problems at this house, AHS sent out a company that didn't know what they were doing. They tried to charge us a whole lot of money for some work that they wanted to do and I didn't feel good about them at all. I didn't want AHS to send those people out and I wanted to request for Douglas Mechanical because they had worked on the AC. But Douglas Mechanical came out and they were easy to talk to. They came really quick and did what I asked them to do.

Also, AHS is replacing my dishwasher but I have GE Monogram appliances in my house and they're replacing it with very cheap GE appliances. They gave me a buyout of $587 for the dishwasher and a GE Monogram dishwasher is more like 2,000. It's not the same thing but I understand that my dishwasher was older. I still don't have the check for it but it should be arriving any minute, they said. They're going to replace my refrigerator also and they're gonna do me the same way.

Then, one time, we had plumber guys come and I told them that the sink was leaking when they were here. They said I have to do another work order and trip charge. Even though he was standing right there, he couldn't work on the faucet because I didn't say faucet on the original work order. Other than that, I'm so grateful that I have the policy and it's been pretty good with AHS. When I have to call them on the phone, I might have to wait an hour or two. But now they let me give them a number and they call me back. I still might have to wait a couple of hours but at least I'm not sitting there with my cell phone thinking they're going to call me back every minute.

I put that claim in and within eight hours, American Shield notified me that this guy from Pride Pump was assigned to the claim. Then he called me within four hours and he was out within two days. We live in the mountains. He had to come from Spokane which was 100 miles away. But he was able to come out immediately. Everything is perfect now. He did an excellent job. I've got four places with American Home Shield and I've had them about eight months on that house. I used to have another warranty for many years and then I switched all of them to American Shield.

RG Plumbing & Rooter brought a whole new setup for a sprayer on the sink and I wanted them to put it in. I've had problems with it before and we got a new one and we put it in there but they keep cracking. I thought the one that he had could be of better quality. But he said all he had to do was fix the sprayer part. He fixed the old nozzle and he put that old piece back in. And I didn't think that was right. Also, it was a $100 service call. I could've done that through Home Depot and it wouldn't have cost me 100 bucks. He unscrewed the sprayer from the hose to try and put the new sprayer and it didn't fit. I kept trying to explain to him I wanted a whole new sprayer put in. I don't think I should’ve had to go through this whole dog and pony show just to get it, and I still didn't get it.

Then, I got an email saying that I never paid the $100 deductible. But I did. Home Shield asked me to pay the service call charge and give them my credit card number and everything on an automated system without setting up an appointment date for me or talking to me in person. I didn't like the fact that I had to do that and then they would notify me and tell me that it was never paid. I'm checking out my credit card bill to see if I get charged. And I gave them all my credit card information, why did they not bill it to my account? They take out my $50 every month. Other than that, I was happy with American Home Shield when I had my stove fixed.

The guy from Abilene Comfort came out and he had to put 50 gallons of the Freon back in. Then he had to replace two bolts, one on the inside of the house, and one on the outside. He went inside of the home when I wasn't inside. Then he wore a mask both inside and outside. It turned out great. I absolutely love American Home Shield. The air conditioner’s been working fine. I did the claim to American Home Shield online and I liked the website. It’s very easy to get through and I’ve got it bookmarked. It was quick and easy. The reps from AHS texted me that the claim had been assigned. Then, I got a text message from the company. They called and gave me an approximate time when they were gonna be there, and the technician was within that time frame. The repair made my condo much cooler since the motor was now working. It was a great experience with AHS and they were awesome.

At the end, he left a piece of paper that said the company would call when the parts were in and he would be back. He came back but I had to leave that day due to an appointment. When I got back, everything was done and completed. It was great and everything is working fine.

They then send somebody out and they always send the most professional, clean, and respectful people. We've done toilets twice and a dishwasher once. This is the second time that AHS has called out this company and they have not even shown up nor return any calls. There hasn't been any type of courtesy whatsoever. I have an open claim right now and they have been the worst. I live in a area of Laredo, Texas where it's 100 degrees every day. The dryer was making a noise when it was drying. The first time, the young man came out and said he needed to replace the drum. He ordered the part, came back later and replaced that. It worked but a day or two or days later, the dryer wouldn’t start. But if you open the door and close it back, it would start. Then it stopped working altogether at one point. After it stopped, I had already called back to American Home Shield and Fixx My Appliance. The guy called and said he’d be there between 8:00 and 12:00. Not even five minutes later, Fixx My Appliance called to confirm my appointment at 1:00 to 5:00 the next day but they didn’t get to my house until 9:30 P.M. I called and kept calling. I got the after-hours people and they said they were still doing rounds.

The young man said it was the start button. He came back another time with the start button and that didn’t work. Whatever start button he put on there didn’t fit. It was like he was trying to put a penny or nickel inside of a quarter. When another guy came out, he had put the black tape on there and ordered a control panel. Each time, they sent somebody else different to come out. It was the fifth time and the guy said he had to order a new start button again. I told him they did that the time before he got here. By this time, it was over two months and it was getting ridiculous.

I’m right on my third month calling back and forth between American Home Shield and Fixx My Appliance trying to get this resolved. When I called American Home Shield and I’ll take it it's because of the COVID, I had to hold for an hour. I talked to somebody about my situation and they said to let them call Fixx My Appliance. They called them and they said they didn’t have the part. The very first two times, Fixx My Appliance must have ordered the part. The third time, American Home Shield ordered the part. At one point, the young lady said to go ahead and let the part come. If it didn’t work, they could replace the dryer.

With Fixx My Appliance, the young man was saying the part was in Ellenwood. Ellenwood is 20 minutes from my house. It could not be in Ellenwood for three days. He said to wait till September 4th. I called back and they said to wait till September 8th. I called back on the 8th and there was still nothing. What I did today was I put Fixx My Appliance and American Home Shield on the phone at the same time.

I’ve been escalating the issue for the longest. I was on the phone again today for two hours. It’s getting frustrating. Every time I call, I got to wait. I call and I’m on hold. By the time they pick up, it’s an hour and a half and I go through the whole process. This doesn’t make any sense. I'm not trying to steal anything or take anything. It’s an inconvenience for us. With this virus, you have to wash clothes and clean the house constantly. We have to go back and forth to the laundry before I go to work and before I come home to the house. I'm being frustrated because sometimes I call and they say they'll call back. The automation line says, “Just press this button and you’d get a call back. You’ll be in line in the queue.” But they never called me back.

This is my second iffy contractor. Years ago, when I first had a plumbing issue, the contractor went to the bathroom and back and flushed the toilet. I overheard him tell the young lady at American Home Shield, “I changed this little flap thing inside the toilet tank,” but he didn’t do it. I called and said, “He didn’t do that. Can I get somebody?" The rep said, “No, you have to make sure that was the same contractor.” I called back and the owner of the plumbing company came out but he didn’t do anything to it. My water bill became 300 something dollars. I called Roto-Rooter and I paid them.

But above all, American Home Shield is still being good to me. I call them all the time and their contractors come. I had a contractor come out last week for a plumbing issue. I call ‘cause you can’t choose online who you’d like to come to your house. I asked if I could get a certain plumber ‘cause I’ve had them before and I know they’re gonna do a great job. I recommend them to people who don’t even have American Home Shield or I’ve had people who joined American Home Shield.

The air conditioner was not blowing cold. We got a Home Shield packet that had a website. So, I went into the website and made sure I put in our information for our Home Shield warranty account. I had options to narrow the issue down. So I just picked the air conditioning. After I followed all the prompts, the Home Shield website asked us to pay the $75 and they would get us connected to a company in my neighborhood. So I just paid online.

Home Shield gave us E and A, and they said that E and A would be reaching out to us. I waited for 24 hours. Then our status on Home Shield said that they were unable to reach me so I had to contact E and A. So, I was tripping a little bit because I never got any missed calls or anything. I double-checked my phone number and it was correct. I didn't get any voice messages from E and A. So, I was not sure how they tried to contact me any different than what was on my Home Shield website.

We live out here in LA. And it was the first heatwave. So I was trying to be patient. Meanwhile, my wife was four and a half months pregnant and wanted to get the AC fixed. I reached out to E and A from the information provided on the Home Shield website after that status was updated. I couldn't get through to a real person. It went straight to voice message. It said to leave them a message and they'd get back to us in 24 hours. So it was another 24-hour wait. I left a message at 4 PM, and the next day 4 pm, I got a phone call from them that said that the earliest that they could send somebody out was gonna be Monday since that was a Friday. Saturday and Sunday were a little hot as well. But their technician was very professional, polite, and friendly. He got to work immediately. He asked me a couple of questions to do some things with our thermostats, and then he just fixed the problem. He was great.

So far, our AC has been blowing cold. My wife is very happy. I told her to use it to make sure that the thing was working. We got the second heatwave here in LA, so it was 112 degrees where we live. So, I was happy that the AC was blowing cold. We've been able to keep the house at 78 - 79 degrees out here. So, that's really good. I was happy with everything once it was happening.

Also, it was three to four weeks before Home Shield reached out and told me what the first plumbing company said. So, I disputed that and AHS sent out a second plumbing company a few days later.

The plumber from there came out and did the estimate. He said that what was quoted by the first plumber was way too high and that plumber was trying to do a lot of unnecessary work. It has been two weeks since the second plumber came and still, nothing has been fixed. So far, I've used Home Shield's warranty three times. One was for drainage that had to be unclogged in my bathroom and the other was fora problem in my kitchen. For my kitchen problem, AHS covered some of it but I had to cover a major chunk out of pocket. Still, their warranty is definitely helpful to have.

He sort of went above and beyond in helping us figure out what the issue was.

Ultimately, it was not something he could assist us with 'cause it wasn't the water heater that was the problem. It was the exhaust system that the contractor had built for the HVAC systems. He was able to help us figure that out and we were very grateful to have him here. My understanding is that AHS won't cover it so I'm dealing separately with the contractor who put the HVAC system in there. Overall, AHS has been great. I'm really pissed off. When I called American Home Shield yesterday morning, they told me the inside was covered and the outside was not. An hour and a half later, they told my son-in-law that the whole thing was denied and I have to pay double what I thought. So I called and talked to a supervisor today and I straightened it out, but I won't believe it till I see it. The frustration has been so bad, including the fact that whenever you call you have hours to hold. I work so I can't be on hold for two hours. It's been horrible. In the last two months, I've not been able to use my kitchen to eat or prepare food. Somebody was supposed to call me to report on the plumbing and how it was resolved last night between 5:00 and 6:00. But they didn't call.

My other claims were resolved within a normal amount of time. But I had another claim that they screwed me on. In August, I had my air conditioning break down and it took five days to repair it. I filed a service request but I could not file it in person because the wait time was three hours. So I filed it on their automated system, which did not tell me that if it was urgent, I should call them first and then wait three hours on hold. I had to go to a hotel because I have a five year old in the family and a sick daughter. We were in a hotel for five days until they were able to move back in. All they would reimburse me for was a hotel for $100. It wasn't my fault that it took five days. No one told me I had to do the claim in person. I would have done it even though it would have meant staying on the phone for the whole day.

The problem didn't get fixed and I'm still trying to figure out how to get them to send someone back out. But it's not quite clear how to do that and they just wanna have me pay again. Other than that specific issue, the rest of it has been pretty straightforward. We've used American Home Shield a number of times throughout the last year and two months, and it’s been okay.

A great guy came out and checked the pool pump out. He knew what he was doing. He came out a month prior because it was making lot of noise. He said it was still working even though it was making noise. When I called, he called me when he was coming out. He remembered and when he came, he had the part with him so he brought it in. He said it needed to be replaced and he did. He was on time. I was happy with him. American Home Shield has been improving. In the past, I had some issues but this one here that came out, it was resolved rather quickly. They are doing better which makes me happy. They were on it and they seemed like they cared.

Myers came out and checked the system because it was constantly running and it wasn't cooling properly. They said the system was running fine. It was pretty easy when I did the claim online. The only thing that would improve the process is if I had more choice in the decision of who comes and does the inspection service.

AHS has responded to my complaint in an expeditious manner and had successfully addressed all my issues concerning the repair of my HVAC system. I have renewed confidence in AHS and their warranty program due to the attitude and professionalism of the consumer representative whom I had the pleasure of dealing with.

    Original Review: Sept. 12, 2020

The first time the contractors came out for our AC, they said the low-pressure switch had tripped. I asked them what caused that to happen. He said he didn't know, but that there was a 30-day recall in case the air conditioner stopped working again. About a week later, it quit working again and they sent Extreme Heating & Air out and he said it was some low voltage wire that needed to be replaced.

The technician told me the air conditioner was running properly. I said, "No, it's not." He said, "I can't do anything about it until the system completely stops because American Home Shield won't let me replace it until we've replaced every part in there." He left, I didn't sign his paper at that time and I called my regular heating maintenance people. They were out within an hour. The guy was there for 10 minutes and said, "I can see your problem immediately right here. I can hear it squealing. The outside fan motor is seizing up and it quits. Then, when it cools down, it'll start up again, but it's not blowing cool air." I said, "What do I need to do?" He said, "I can order you a new motor and fan blade. I would get it expedited here and get it in for you as quickly as I can." AHS should take Extreme Heating & Air off of their warranty program.

Chesapeake Comfort did wonderful. The tech came in, checked a few things and realized it wasn't that and they couldn't figure out what it was. And then, he finally went upstairs in the attic and did a few things, had to drain a few things, and it worked out well. He was only here for about an hour or so, but he did what he had to do and was out. Also, he had the mask on and had little things to cover his shoes up too. I’ve had great service in the sense like when people do come out, they're good. It’s just that I'm in the area. I had an issue with my pool in the beginning of the summer, and because we live in such a rural area, it's hard to get certain people here to help out. So, Home Shield had to work around their rules. And I had to pay out of pocket first and then they reimburse me. They reimburse me fairly fast. It would have been bad if I didn't have the money. But it worked out well.

I logged into my account and I requested service from American Home Shield for my dryer. I paid $75, which is the amount that they charge for someone to come out, make an assessment, and fix the problem. Someone then contacted me and scheduled the appointment. Someone came over here, made an assessment, and ordered a part. When the part came in, someone came over and put it in. I worked with two different people and they were great. There was the one that came in initially and another guy who came in to do the install. Both of them were very polite and nice. My dryer got repaired a few days ago and it's been fine. We've always had a very good experience with American Home Shield.

I got Home Shield when I bought the house that I live in 10 years ago now predominantly for the heating unit because it was nearing the end of its life. A couple years ago, we had it go out and we got everything taken care of. I'm pretty happy with their service. I had a clogged drain issue with the AC and Johnson HVAC were able to fix it in 10 or 15 minutes so it was nice, easy, and pretty straightforward. They were great. They've done some work for us through Home Shield.

But Home Shield's new automated menu is a little obnoxious. It's kind of difficult to get where I needed to get. I tried online and for some reason, that didn't recognize my account or something else. I went with the phone number and I was able to get the service scheduled but it's been a couple of weeks now. It was along the lines of taking longer than it should have. It's been great that everything's pretty much online these days and I know I have to do the auto attendant things a certain way with the software that they have but it was a little bit more frustrating to navigate. But that doesn't take away the fact that I like Home Shield. They have done a good job and always come through when I needed them.

For the first three years of my house, I didn't get a home warranty because it was new. But afterwards, I thought that this house was getting old and stuff would start breaking. I needed to get a home warranty then and I got one from AHS. So far, having it has been extremely beneficial for me. Recently, a tech from Ace's Garage Door Repair came out and he was very informative. He told me what happened to my garage door because I thought it was the chain, but the problem wasn't even the chain. It was the thing at the front of the garage door that had broken and I didn't even notice that.

He explained to me why my garage door was not running as fast as it should and that the Genie that I was using to open the garage door, the clicker, was the wrong clicker in the car. He was also a very nice guy and he had a mask on while he was here. But I wasn't too happy about that dang old garage door because I had to pay 400 dollars since what I needed wasn’t covered by my warranty. But other than that, I’m good because when my sump pump went out, I knew that would cost thousands of dollars, and AHS had it fixed with no problem.

We started with American Home Shield when we bought the home three years ago because the man that sold us the house paid for a year and we liked it. There are a lot of companies out there that people had different remarks that weren't that good but we kinda felt comfortable with Home Shield. Most of the people that came out were very nice. They tried to fix the issue and they were pretty good about it. Most of the time, our issues were covered and everything was okay. One time, the air conditioner was low on Freon and they were only gonna put a pound in, so we had to pay for the other Freon, which was logical. Then another time, a contractor came for some electrical stuff. Something happened with the wire and they fixed it. And when the toilet was stopped up, they fixed it. A tech recently came for the dishwasher and they ordered a part. Then, the pool came off the contract and we recently added it on.

I had Home Shield before. I tried another company but they were horrible. The only reason I went with them is because when I bought this house, the seller paid for it. As soon as the contract was up, I changed back to Home Shield. I have always liked them. It is $100 copay now and I have always been on a $50 or $65. It’s more expensive to have Home Shield, plus their copay is higher. That’s harder to swallow, but the service is good. Recently, there were two Blue Star Plumbing techs at the place. One of them was awesome. He did not quit until the issue was fixed. We’ve had several people come out but he was the only one who worked long enough and was determined to fix it, and who was able to fix it. He knew that there could have been several issues and he tried everything until he figured it out.

American Home Shield advertises themselves as same day service but when I called in for the appointment for the initial request, it took them 10 days to schedule me. I waited the full 10 days and they sent a technician. I explained the problem and he said to me rather shortly on his way out the door that he changed the airflow and that it’s fine. It was never fine. Once the air conditioning gets to be about 85 degrees outside, the airflow doesn't cool the house. So, I called this company back and the person that I spoke with was screaming at me. He said I didn't understand how complicated these things are. Then he gave me a 7:00 to 9:00 time frame the next morning and the technicians didn't get here till 9:30. They don't open till 9:00 but I was up and ready at 7:00.

That second group came and they couldn't figure it out either. They said there was nothing wrong with it but I said that cool air comes out but there's not enough of a flow to bring the temperature down. So, he said that was overheating and they would have to replace the furnace and the air conditioner. It's all one unit. I called AHS and told them that if they get a work order from them to replace the whole thing, we would need to get a second opinion. I'm not a mechanic. I'm a clinical psychologist. But whatever's wrong with it should not require the replacement of a full HVAC system.

I got a text from AHS saying that the work was complete and asked me to rate same day service. That was the first sign it was complete. I still thought they were gonna propose to replace the whole nine yards. So, the AC is still broken and that company is a sham. I have people I've worked with here over the years for my heating and air conditioning that maintain it that are much higher quality.

The claims process with American Home Shield was great. They were very timely and respectful. When I made the call, the contractor came out the next day or the day after. I'm satisfied with that timeframe because it was hot back then. The technicians did an excellent job and they were very professional. My husband went outside with them and they knew what it was and it didn't take them forever to get it done. Also, they had their mask on and gloves. The AC has been fixed for a while now. I love American Home Shield and I tell everybody about them. When things start breaking down, I tell people they need AHS. I’ve been with them for a long time and it has been beneficial. The service is great for senior citizens because they can't get to all that stuff. American Home Shield should be their go-to for repairs.
