Everything with my recent claim at American Home Shield went very well and I didn’t have any issues at all. They were very pleasant and quick to respond. The company that came, Precision, was real good. The guys came out very quickly and took care of the problem, so I was very satisfied.

I had an appliance claim with American Home Shield in August. The freezer part of the refrigerator was warming up. It would cool down, then, it would warm up so my food was not cooling properly. There was also a leak somewhere in the back of the refrigerator. Budget Appliance came and they were wonderful. They came out twice and the first time they came out, I explained what was going on. The guy was able to explain to me what the issue was. I also had an issue with the dishwasher but what I found out from him is that I just didn't have the line on. I’m a new homeowner so I wasn’t sure what was going on and he was able to explain to me how to turn the water on so that it would actually go into the dishwasher. Budget Appliance is a family-owned company and the second time, his son came out. He was very knowledgeable too. He explained what was going on to me in a way that I could understand it.
Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was an easy process. The contractor submitted the problem and stated that it could not be repaired. However, I did find that there was an issue with the communication from that point. I kept calling back and I had a hard time getting through to an actual person to find out what the next step was to see if I needed to do anything, or if it was on them, or what needed to happen from that point on. But once I got in contact with somebody, they handled the problem. They took care of it pretty well. Once they got the information they needed and I had the information I needed, the claim was processed pretty quickly. The appointment was set up, and everything after that point went pretty well.
I would recommend American Home Shield and I have recommended them because they cover so much and in my experience, it seemed to me that they're a good company. They stand behind what they say. Any time I get that experience from somebody, I recommend to everybody. I’ve been talking about American Home Shield to anybody that’ll listen.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield about my washer and the experience was perfect. Initially, the AHS contractor came out to fix it, and the problem was a little deeper than what they initially said. So, they had to come back out to clear it a second time, but the service was great and they were still within the timeframe. So far, I've been with AHS for two years and I'll be renewing depending on the monthly rates. They went up ten bucks last time so I’m not sure if I'll be renewing if they increase another ten bucks this time.

I submitted a claim over the phone when the air conditioner was leaking profusely. It took about a week before we were contacted by the contractor. But once they came out, they got in, assessed the problem, and took care of all the paperwork. We weren't engaged with it again until we got a callback from Home Shield denoting what what the resolution would be. Their approval came quickly, then the contractor replaced the outside compressor and some line work. They were real professional. We tried the unit out extensively right afterwards and it has been fantastic.

The evaporator coil went out on the AC so American Home Shield and I agreed over the phone that they would pay me $1,350, which was what they would have paid to repair it. Then I went ahead and replaced the whole unit because it was 26 years old. All I needed to do was send in an invoice. But I recently got a letter from them and it said my claim was denied. I’m not sure why. So I’ve got to investigate that and find out what’s going on there. I’ve spent $12,000 on a brand new AC unit. I kinda did them a favor by just taking the $1,350 because I called the air conditioner people and the unit has a 10-year warranty on it so they’ll be the ones to fix it, not American Home Shield.
But American Home Shield has taken care of every other claim that we’ve ever put in. We've had the warranty for five years now and everything has been fantastic. In fact, even the contractors have gotten better over the years. The guy who worked on the air conditioner when it first went out was fantastic too. Unfortunately, it was just an old system and it couldn’t be band-aided anymore. But he was great trying to make it work.

My last claim with AHS was for my washing machine. It was getting stuck in the spin cycle. It’s very, very easy to do a claim. I just went online and submitted my claim in there and had a email back. The email back was instant in letting me know the claim was through, and in less than two hours I had an email letting me know of the provider or service people that would be taking care of it and a rough time frame of when they would be taking care of it, along with a phone number.
The contractor called me and scheduled an actual definitive time. He was running a little bit late. They called me, let me know that they were running late, which wasn’t a big deal for me. They came in, looked at the washing machine and was very professional and to the point. When he got done, let me know that there were two issues that he actually found that he would submit for the parts, and they would let me know what the turnout would be, and left. It was very quick and simple. The next day they let me know it was approved and they would have to get the parts in about a week later. The parts came in, they called to let me know they were in, set up a return visit with me and it took him all of 15 minutes tops to fix it.
Everything with American Home Shield has been absolutely phenomenal. They have always done exactly what they said they would do. They have been upfront with any charges that I have incurred with anything such as refrigerant. They’ve always been immediate, like responsive. If I had a question, they answer immediately. They get technicians out here immediately, and the technicians have been phenomenal as well.

American Home Shield was able to get a contractor out pretty quick. I wasn’t happy with the initial company that came. I would never have them again. But I liked Service Mechanical a lot. They came out and fixed the problem I had with my faucets. The guy came when he said he was coming and was very professional. He was in and out and he did a great job. The guy explained the issue to me. He said he was gonna try to find the part, but he didn’t think that he was going to be able to because it was an older faucet and worn out. He couldn’t find the part for it ‘cause of that and it had to be replaced. He couldn’t do it right that day. He came on a Friday and and then he came back that following Tuesday morning. The service was really good and the guy was wonderful. I haven't had any problems with the faucet since. Any issues that I've had in the past, AHS has done everything they can to accommodate me.

I was gonna switch companies who was cheaper and American Home Shield ended up talking me into staying with them by giving me two service calls. I already used one two years ago and their rep said that I have one more. I asked her if I would have a problem getting the second claim because it might be a year to three years and she said that it should be in the system.
My next service call was supposed to have been free. It was for the same part. AHS told me not to worry about it, but their rep couldn't find it anywhere. I was on the phone for longer than an hour and I couldn’t hardly understand the rep because of her accent. If I didn't have a free one, I would have been on the phone 10 or 15 minutes instead of over an hour.
AHS was supposed to credit me back for the $100 that they charged my credit card 'cause they owed me a service call. Their rep said that it had to be approved, which would take a couple of days 'cause I called her on Monday, Labor Day. Once they get ahold of the company, it would take about two days and then they would get ahold of me. I've never heard from anybody. Other than that, the service went good and my wife was was plenty pleased with the contractor. The guy was super nice and he knew what was wrong with it right away.

The AC was slowly not cooling, and then it started making all kinds of noises. One Saturday morning, I went to turn it on and it sounded like it was about to blow up. I made a claim with American Home Shield online. It was really easy. When the technician from Precision Engineering arrived, I thought he knew exactly what was wrong with it. Even after he turned it on, he was like, “Oh, okay.” And he did some work on it and the noise stopped right away. He told me exactly what was wrong with it. It was some contaminated coolant and something else that he had to replace, but he was saying that it wasn’t a problem fixing it. They have to come back on the 23rd. According to them, that’s the earliest date they could get. Right now, it’s kinda cool. But the last couple of days, it’s been kinda cool so I haven’t worried about it as much. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I have five policies with American Home Shield. At my Clarksville property, Reep’s Air came out did a really good job. The guy kept us informed. He called when he was going and when he left the property to say that there was a part that he needed to order. He also said that it might take a couple of days depending on the shipping. There was this property that had a window unit in it as well and he told us that we might want to see if that window unit would suffice until they could get the repair done. He also called to say that it wasn't in yet, but they were expecting it in the next couple of days and he would let us know so I could let my tenant know, which he did and our tenant was thrilled with that.
Everything worked as it should. Now, I’m at my personal home and I am waiting for the HVAC repair from American Home Shield. I submitted my claim on the phone because I was driving and the AHS reps were great. But sometimes I’ll do it online. My vendor now is Economy Air and I’ve worked with them for quite some time. I've been with AHS for nine years. It has worked well for us, but sometimes-- and I think this is true for all warranty companies, I'm not getting the full fix, and it's not always upfront. Also when we had our water heater replaced, we didn't like the group that came out. The guy was super creepy, but I didn't wanna report that. It was just kind of a bigger ordeal than it needed to be. And one other thing that would be nice to be improved is Miller Pools is who gets assigned to us often when there's a pool issue, and then one time, it was a different company. I did a Google search and they didn't have a website, like, all these red flags. And they have one or two 1-star reviews that were like, "AHS assigned us to these folks and they never called us back."
It took a long time for me to get assigned to someone different during that. I was like, "Nobody answers." It goes to where it was like, "It rings busy. Please, I just need this fixed." It took two or three business days before AHS would assign someone different. I realized they got their process, and that made sense, but it was just really frustrating when there was so much proof that the company they'd assigned seemed to either be not good or not operating in Austin or whatever. But for the most part, AHS has been great. When Miller Pools was assigned to us they were awesome. They did a great job.

The outside AC unit went out and I had an issue with the first company sent out by American Home Shield. Every time I called, I could never get ahold of that company. It took them forever to call me to schedule an appointment. Come to find out, they say that the number that they have on on the bottom of the email that they send is not the correct number. There were times that AHS couldn't even get in contact with them either. It took them weeks to come out to my home.
When they initially came out, the guy told me it was gonna take another 10 days for the part but it took way longer than that. They kept telling me that the part had been picked up. Then they kept telling me the part wasn't in yet. They are unresponsive. You'd leave them messages, and they wouldn't respond. Then they put it back on American Home Shield saying that they have the incorrect information.
The issue finally got taken care of on July. It was pressing because I was going to be traveling. I also have an elderly mom in my house. So I needed this taken care of before I leave. They ended up messing up my schedule because they were supposed to be at my house by 8 o'clock so that I could leave and they were late. I had to have someone else stay at my house because I was leaving that day to be traveling. There was a lot that happened with that company.
The company said that the outside unit needed to be replaced. After they left, the part upstairs started leaking 'cause they never went up there to do anything. The pipe was clogged up and they were supposed to replace them when they fixed the unit outside. They never went in the attic or anything. So, that was what Air Design came out to fix. Their technicians were great. Everything is working correctly since they came out. But American Home Shield didn't do their part with the first company. I called them over and over. I asked to speak with supervisors over and over and they never put forth any effort to resolve the actual issues.

I called American Home Shield and the rep was very nice. Most of the people that I've talked with were very helpful and made sure everything was taken care of. The first time the contractor came out, it was way too long. I have a newborn and I needed to sterilize bottles in the microwave. When I called, the rep was not helpful at all and she said they were scheduling at least a week out. So, when I called back to explain to American Home Shield, they were willing to find a vendor who could get it done within a week. The contractor was super helpful and we got our thing fixed. I just got a call today that the part is in and they wanted to schedule before they had to do any other thing this week. So, she called as soon as the part came in, and they're gonna come on Thursday to install it and it should be done.

The technician for the plumbing issue was awesome. He was very professional. He came in, knew exactly what was going on and was able to fix it in no time. However, we had an AC call one time for someone to come out and they could not come out for like 4 days. It was ridiculous. The only way that American Home Shield could expedite the callout was if it was over 100. With the heat index in South Carolina, it was gonna be way over 100 but they would not expedite the callout. I think it was someone that was overseas that my wife spoke to and she was extremely furious after she got off the phone with them. Just sitting there for 4 days with no AC was not good either. That was the only real issue we had with American Home Shield but one other time we talked to someone, they were fine.

When I've only moved in the house a couple of months, I was able to reset the AC's circuit breaker and it came back on and it worked fine. We keep our AC on 74 and one day, I got home and it was 80 degrees. I redid the reset and nothing happened. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and then I got a text that they had placed a call, and that the service would be a couple of days. I called on a Thursday night and I got a call on a Saturday that the tech would come out on Sunday. I was surprised because it was a holiday weekend but we did the service on Sunday.
The tech checked the fan upstairs and said there's no water in the pan. He couldn't really tell me why it did what it did. He hooked up his Freon meter, he took the cover off, checked the electrical and then he said, "Go turn on the unit and turn it down 10 degrees and tell me what happens." And everything worked fine. he educated me on how to troubleshoot in the future, so I figured that was my $75 call. So far, everything went fine. It's a 10 or 11 years old unit so I figured the motor was burned out. Since then, the AC has been fine.

When I initially submitted a claim for my Whirlpool dishwasher, I had difficulty with an agent named Mike. I tried to explain to him that there was no vendor in my area other than Sears Home Services but he insisted on assigning me to a different company. I had been through this experience before and I tried to tell him that the people he assigned me to are down in Portland, Oregon. They will not come to my location. But Mike still assigned those people to me. The contractor got in contact with me and they said they don't come to our area.
I contacted American Home Shield and did the claim again. I explained the situation to another agent and everything was fine. It was assigned to Sears and the issue was taken care of. The technicians from Sears knew what was going on. They had to order a part and it got here timely for when the technicians came back and installed it. Everything was fabulous. The dishwasher has been good.
There was a bad experience I had two years ago with the air conditioning unit where American Home Shield sent a guy out here who was from Longview, Washington. The guy was totally inept. He came here with a pickup truck and he had a little satchel of tools. He took my air conditioning unit apart and said that it needed a part. He was supposed to be here a certain day with that part. He showed up and he told me that in speaking to the people at the part house, it was determined that he didn’t need the part and that the part was adjustable. But it was not adjustable. He put some coolant in my system and it was roasting. I ended up getting the people that do my annual maintenance on my system come and fix the air conditioner. Other than that, I will stay with American Home Shield.

When I cancel a month to month contract, you charge me not only a month fee as penalty, but also recover any service fees you paid to the providers for claim filed BEFORE my contract cancellation date? In other words, for the partial year for which I am on contract with your company I paid monthly service fee, deductible for each claim, complete fee other than deductible paid to the actual service provider, plus a month service fee as a penalty? What a stinking contract and company is that? Will it stand any rule or law if I take it to a court? Not that I waste my time for the $110 difference for which I had already spent 2+ hours on phone for an explanation in vain, but this is plain wrong, AHS folks!

Good day, here are the facts. I called in to follow up on a repair to my Ice Maker that failed to be repaired properly the first time. I was put on hold for 25 minutes just to be told “I’m sorry but we are currently experiencing a system update and you will have to call back." Who does a system update during the busiest hours of the working day. Needless to say here we sit with a broken ice maker and no response within the recommended time frame as stated in the contract. I don’t understand how you run a business like this to provide exceptional World Class Customer Service.

My LG washing machine was stuck on the spin cycle, so I called AHS. A repairman came out promptly, and then proceeded to tell me he would have to break the affixed tray that my machine fits in to repair the machine. Then another person from Exclusive Appliance told me I would have to hire a handy man to move the machine so his repairman could replace the parts. That is unacceptable service to me.
When I called AHS they said that was in the contract. I.e., that they are not responsible for moving appliances. The AHS rep could not have been more rude, and talked over me. Sincerely it was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. How can you do a contract in which you will do the work if someone else moves an appliance? That is no way to do business in my opinion. I canceled my contract and will NEVER deal with AHS again. I am telling all my friends, and posting to every consumer website I can find. AHS is a disrespectful, shady and very expensive warranty with zero benefits.

This company is the absolute worse. NEVER go with them. I paid my $400 plus for the year (BIG mistake) and have had nothing but trouble since. My gas wall heater. They argued for 10 min to send an electrician. As I gave up, he came, never set foot in the house, and stated it needed to be a gas person. (DUH). I fought for 2 months and finally got my $75 back on that. Next: a kitchen faucet. Leaking. Another $75. They show up, after 2 no show appointments (Arcata Roto Rooter) and the charge was going to be over $300 to replace it. WHAT?!?! Next $75 was for an electrician to fix bathroom fan. 1 week out, complaints, etc... Still no call from electrician. (From Samoa). Going to fight for that $75 back and I'm out. Horrible experience. Horrible.

Our air conditioner started making this deep parump sound like the heater was trying to turn on when the air conditioner turned on. It did that kind of over and over. Then one day we noticed the house was hot and mind you on the weekend. So we waited and I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out that Monday to fix it. He found that the capacitor was dead and so he replaced it. Immediately we started getting colder air. What a miracle this is in the hot Texas weather. The noise however is still there. It's an occasional parump. We can't figure that out. If it goes out again then I will indeed call American Home Shield because I trust them and know they will get good people to fix what goes wrong. Thank you American Home Shield.

I used to speak very highly of AHS but after this fiasco today, I would say, run, run away fast and get another home warranty service. We live in Nevada where many people have pools/spas but AHS only has one company on their list!~ This company is not the weekly pool service we utilize and I would not want another company to work on my major investment.
AHS would not even consider and outside authorization nor would they attempt to contact my pool company to get them to be on the AHS team. I asked if they had an outside sales dept to contact companies to have them join the AHS team, I was told NO, it's up to the company to contact AHS. WOW, guess I have a different mindset about building up a business. I will have to pay out of pocket for my services from my pool company. So much for any type of customer service from this company. :( I'm now searching for another company to cover my home protection. Too bad. I used to rave about AHS.

As of to date I am out $1,190 for the policy, three $75 service charges, and an $80 cancelation fee without a single resolution to any of the claims that I have made to the company. DO NOT TRUST AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. They do not have your best interest in mind and only want our money. Really lousy and non caring. Dealing with repeated failures and no solutions. Since July 2018 have been having problems and they keep stringing us along. The last week three technicians come out and fix the problem only to have the unit fail the next day. Going on two weeks with no hot water and they are dragging their feet on replacement. Now asking the plumber to submit a detailed description as to why it needs to be replaced and not fixed. Any person with half a brain can see that everything that can be replaced has been replaced and it is cheaper for them to replace the unit. This is after the plumber already submitted his recommendation to replace. Their strategy is to frustrate you into just replacing it yourself. I have told them that I have a special needs son who has sensory processing problems and they still don't care enough to solve this.

A contractor came and told us that it had to be serviced, cleaned and flushed, and that we needed to add Freon. So, we did that. The downstairs AC went out. The first contractor came out two or three times. They didn't know what they were doing so we called American Home Shield and asked for someone to come out and they fixed it on the first try. It happened on a Friday and somebody didn’t come out ‘til Monday. The contractor came on time, but it wasn’t a good company. The guy didn’t even explain what was going on. He just told us what he did. The first time, my wife was here and she said he just basically went out there and did what he was supposed to do, and then he came back with no reports. He gave us the invoice and then left. Most people would give you a breakdown. Like the last guy that came out, he was like, “Yeah, this is going on. This is what you got. Blah, blah, blah.”
American Home Shield is pretty good. Everything is now working good but the next time I call whenever we got air problems, I do not wish they send that company out anymore. Also, I wish they had vendors on the weekend. That was the second time we had an incident when we had to suffer all weekend and then someone didn’t come out until Monday.

We got this house about 11 years ago, and we got American Home Shield shortly after that. I like the idea that you get an older home and they're able to protect the expensive things that will eventually break down. It’s a nice insurance policy. I had an appliance claim last month and it went fine. Guillermo’s gave me a pre-call to let me know what day they'd be out, and then on the holiday, the rep would call me back to give me a narrow window. She called on a Friday to tell me it’d be Tuesday, the day after Labor Day. Then, she told me she would call me on Labor Day to give me a narrower window because there was a computer that lines them up as far as the route that they do their service. The tech got here and apparently, I was the first customer. He went through the process, and discovered what it was right away.

He also said that the motor went out and the seals were bad along the tank, but it was now good to go. It was very excellent. Everything is working nicely.
When I try to submit an online claim with AHS, it doesn’t recognize my account, phone, address, nor by everything. So I have to call the claim in, but the service is good when I speak with someone. The whole internet thing is a pain in the butt, but I’ve been with AHS for about five and a half years and I've kept them for the peace of mind. If J & H, the first contractor, had any smarts, they would have fixed my air conditioning. After the guy put in the compressor, he said it was done. But the house was 90 degrees and he said his probe was broken. I took a thermometer that you use for meat, and shoved it in where they were doing it, and I said that it was 90 degrees. He said it was the best that it was gonna do and to call American Home Shield if I didn’t like how it works. So, I called AHS and then, I got Ample Air. The first thing the guy said was that the compressor was bad and it wasn’t even working. He opened it up and there was a thing called a fast start, which I paid for. He put it in, got it working, and then took it out. J & H should be outta the system of AHS because they’re a piece of garbage. Because of them, AHS had to replace the compressor on my air conditioning.
Ample Air wasn’t bad, but they should’ve found what Tru-Way found. The guy from Tru-Way did a high quality of work and he wasn’t one of these guys that pats you in the back and wants to be your friend. He said he had a job to do and he was gonna do it. The guy said that things have been bad for a long time. They found something that was wrong in the air conditioning that should have been replaced a long time ago and they replaced it. There was also a kind of an automatic shut off if there’s too much power going through the system to protect it. They had to order that and it took about two weeks to get it. But that didn’t affect the air conditioning. Tru-Way was fine and I would use them again. I should’ve had these people in the beginning, and it would have saved AHS money. I’ve recommended American Home Shield before and I’m probably gonna be using them in a new place once I move in.

After going back and forth with somebody at American Home Shield who’s obviously reading from a manuscript, they finally said they would send out someone else. My AC wasn’t blowing air in my master bedroom and it wasn’t blowing cool air. A technician from the company American Home Shield set me up with came out the first time and fixed the blowing in my bedroom. He did not, however, fix the cooling of the air. Somebody else from the same company was sent out and he said the AC was fine on Freon, but it was just too hot outside and more time was just needed. But that wasn’t accurate. I waited for about two weeks and the AC still wasn’t working right.
The next guy from the same company that came out said the AC was a couple of pounds low on Freon. He showed me the temperature thing. He put the temperature gauge up against the vent that was blowing the air and he said the AC was only blowing about 68 degrees when it should be in the 30 or 40 range. The one guy that came out to check the Freon wanted to get in and out. I don't know how he could have missed that issue if the other guy came two weeks later and the Freon was so low. The next issue we had during all this was the thermostat. It was a bad thermostat and it ended up being replaced. Of the guys who came, one guy was good. Everybody else was okay.
My experience with American Home Shield was a little frustrating because they are not the one living in the middle of Texas without a well-running air conditioner. It was funny how they were able to get one guy out over the weekend right away because I told them I had a senior and a young child in the house. I had asked for something else to have done before and AHS couldn’t do it. It's usually six days later or maybe a little bit less, but it wasn’t right away. It's just been a long summer. The air conditioner is finally working right.

We’ve been having some plumbing issues and leaks that drip in the basement, and we were smelling kinda mildewy smells. So, we needed to call somebody and find out where these smells were coming from because water was getting on something and it didn’t smell good. I filed a claim online to American Home Shield and I kinda got a little confused because it didn’t have some of the options listed that I was looking for. I didn’t really know if it were pipe leaks and there was no way for me to request for a diagnosis because I didn’t know what was wrong. The plumber’s office called and said that they couldn’t do work on things that they didn’t have a work order for. I didn’t know how to submit a work order for a diagnosis. There wasn’t an option for that.
When the plumbers came out and gave us our diagnosis, he said that they were gonna need a high-capacity water valve. That made sense because there was a lot of water systems in the house. He knew what he was talking about. Every issue we’ve had, AHS has sent someone out really quick and they’re gonna call me tomorrow and see if I’ve had a contractor to come out to get the access for them. I have not but I called a couple of different people, so hopefully there's somebody.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. In this situation, I would've recommended entering a request for general leaks. When the technician came out, they would have assessed the situation to make a diagnosis. If the issue was something other than a leak, the work order could be updated and we would move forward from there depending on the issue. We look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.

The AC wasn’t putting out enough cool air, it couldn’t keep up with the heat load so we had to replace the air handling unit and it was a torturous process for me. It took a good six weeks to finally get the unit installed, that I wanted to have installed. We have a Lennox system and because the heat pump was Elite, I wanted a Lennox Elite replaced. I was able to get the quote initially with the agreement to have a Lennox put in, but AHS wanted to put the Lennox, the middle-priced one. The reason why I didn’t want that was because the dimensions on the Lennox Merit are different. So, the duct work would've been modified and that would’ve cost more money, and it’s more work for the installer. I kept trying to get a price and an upgrade to the Elite, and that just took weeks.
Every day, I would speak with somebody different from AHS, and I got a lot of misinformation. In the end, I learned that AHS has a list of contractors that do upgrades, like I wanted to do, and a list that don’t. The first contractor I was dealing with was one that didn’t and the three different women I spoke to over a course of a two-week period weren’t aware of that. So, there’s definitely some internal training needed. The knowledge on the part of the people that answered the questions when you call in for service, lacks. They’re not familiar with the procedures and policies of the company, so it was extremely frustrating. Nevertheless, they were all very polite, very professional people.
Eventually, it got all sorted out and a contractor came that do the upgrade. He was prompt and knowledgeable. He did the repair in an expedient time, but I overpaid. This was done over a month ago and I contacted him and I said, "I need a receipt to show that I paid you the $3,400.” Plus, American Home Shield paid him money so the guy made a ton of money on this claim. The second thing I wanted was the warranty information, which the rep promised me. This was a couple days after. The installation was done on a Sunday, that Monday he told me and I still haven’t gotten it. So, I sent him a text three weeks ago, and just last night, I sent another text saying, and in a nice way that I’m still waiting for the receipt and the warranty information and he still hasn’t delivered.
The warranty information is another story. One of the problems is that the way the name plate on the unit was installed is partially covered with a plate, so I can’t get the serial number off of it without taking the plate off, which I’d rather not do even though I’m mechanically inclined. Without that serial number, you can’t register it on the warranty, so that’s why I’m chasing the rep for that information. This project started before the 4th of July, and it took until the middle of August to get it done. Fortunately, the unit that we had produced enough cool air that it was comfortable, it was 77, 78 degrees, and we can live with that. If it’s completely broken, it would’ve been horrible to live here. So, that was this summer.
Just recently, I noticed that the four different zones in our house with four different systems are all the same, the Lennox Elite. One of the upstairs unit wasn’t cooling and I had a good idea it was the motor for the blower. The AHS regular contractor came and did a great job. We sent the request in to American Home Shield a day later, they called, we set up an inspection, and the guys came within two days. They diagnosed the problem and it was exactly what I thought it was. They ordered the part, and they came. And all within a week and a half, everything was done, everything was cool. And it only cost me the $100 service. So, that was very reasonable. But the other zone that we replaced the air handling unit was a total disaster.
The rep knew that I wanted an upgrade. I personally think he took advantage of that because I got the high-end brand. And the most frustrating part is I spent hours on the phone, again, with American Home Shield. I called two of the Lennox distributors, installers in this area, I could not get a price on what the upgrade charge is. I wanted a price, and I wanted to know what’s the difference if you buy the Merit, and what does it cost, and Lennox could not give me that information. They basically tell me they don’t have that information but they know what it costs to put a unit off the end of an assembly line. And for the record, I spent 44 years in the nuclear power industry. For the first 18 years, I worked for an engineering company and constructors. We designed and built units. There is $5 billion dollar plants, it’s what they were, with a lot of mechanical equipment.
And then, the rest of my career, I worked for the owners of the plant we ran. So, I’m a civil structural engineer, but I know about mechanical parts, and I know a lot about building, and testing, and construction. So, it was really frustrating that I couldn’t get the price from Lennox. I went to four different people, and I finally got a customer care woman, and they won’t share. So, they directed me to their distributors, and I went to their distributors in South Carolina. Five Star was one of them, and they wouldn’t give the price of the unit. The only thing they’ll give you is a price to come and replace or replace a piece part, but they will not give you the cost of the unit.
I did learn from American Home Shield that they were willing to pay $754 for the Merit, but I never was able to get a price from them for the Elite, to see what the upcharge was. I know this installer way overcharged me, because the difference between a Merit and an Elite is not that much different. It might be a $400 or $500 difference. Apparently, he drove in on our neighborhood and he saw that we live in a 6,300 square feet house, all stone on the outside and it’s a very expensive, pricey house. So, when they saw this, they go, “Chiching, chiching, chiching.” And that was what really annoyed me.
And when I was dealing with American Home Shield, they sent a contractor that does an upgrade. So, there’s no competition, no competitive pricing. So, it’s very frustrating dealing with AHS in this case. But like I said, the flip side of it is the motor that went on the blower in the other air handling unit, that went the way you would expect it.
In July of 2017, that same cooling coils went and had to be replaced, and that went really well. But the air handling unit that we had to replace in total, because I wanted to do the upgrade to make it easier to install, and in the end, it would cost a little bit less because they didn’t have to put modified ductwork in. So, the air supply and the air discharge ends of these units are different dimensions. They would have to fabricate, like a coupling to connect it, and that cost money. And then, installing the supports for the unit might’ve been a little different. So, I’m trying to make it as cheap as possible in the long run. And it’s easy for the contractor because the harder and more effort is, it costs more money. So, it was one of the most frustrating things I had to do.
Overall, it was an absolute horrible experience. I’ve built two houses, one in New Hampshire where we used to live, and one in Vermont where we had a vacation home. We designed and built a $5.5 billion plant, so I understand construction and testing. I’ve also dealt with GE, Westinghouse, all these huge contractors and little contractors to buy pumps, motors, valves, condensers, compressors. And I understand heat transfer. I know how AC works and I know how heating works. So, that was my biggest frustration that I’ve had in 20 years with trying to get this very simple air handling unit replaced.
The one that is not on the upgrade is Guaranteed Services. They were good but they were hard to deal with because they were the first ones AHS would send, but when I tell them I wanted to do the upgrade, they said, “We don’t do that.” So, I said, “Okay, you don’t but get me some prices.” And they wouldn’t do that. They had a new guy who was working with them that I’ve spoken with and he had problems speaking. He had very poor verbal skills, and he was just very, very strange to deal with. But put that aside, we finally decided we can’t use Guaranteed Services, and we use this other company that were on the upgrade list.
The guy showed up on time and did the repair quick, but I way overpaid. And I still haven’t gotten the warranty or receipt from the guy. Payment should be met 15 days, but he wanted the 50% of $3,200 upfront. We did an electronic transfer that day. Unfortunately, he gave us the wrong number, so it didn’t get put in his account until a couple of days later. By his own admission, his phone wasn’t connected to the right bank account, but he got back to us, and he had his money within two days, but that was his mistake. Anyways, I’ve had good experiences with American Home Shield contractors and had this just horrible experience with the air handling unit.
Furthermore, we have a Scotsman which is a high-end ice maker in our house. So, last fall, it needed to be repaired, and they sent over a guy who had been to the house before. So, he decided he needed some parts, and he ordered them, and this was in December. So, we went to Colorado for January, February, and March, and this guy was trying to repair the unit. He said, “I’ll take the unit out of your house, and I’ll bring it to my shop, and I’ll work on it.”
In the end, when we came back in March, what we learned was in the parts, in the contract that we have, it only allows $3,000 for repair of appliances. This guy had bought different parts, and he was up to $2,600. And he went back to AHS and said, “I need another $1,600 for another part, because I still can’t get this unit to run.” So, American Home Shield came back to us and said, “You’re gonna have to pay the difference between the $3,000 policy limit and the $3,600 that the price is gonna be, with no guarantee if it’s still gonna…" and we said, “No. We will not do that.”
We could’ve bought a lower-end GE or a Frigidaire or we could’ve bought a KitchenAid for $1,800. But now, these parts are bought and we’re screwed, because this guy has spent the money already. First of all, this guy didn’t know what he was doing. He would get the unit and he was just replacing parts. He never diagnosed what part’s wrong. This is the same guy that came to our house two years ago to fix a Viking oven. The oven would not hold temperature, so he comes and he says, “Oh, you need a new thermostat.” He put the thermostat in, then he goes away. That was 100 bucks to get him in and do that. Oven is still not fixed because he never figured out what was wrong with it.
Three months later, we bring him back because the oven still does not hold temperature, and it takes forever to get to a temperature. So, he comes back, he says, “Oh, it’s the heating element.” So, he replaces that, that’s another 100 bucks, he goes away. Still doesn’t work properly. Finally, another 100 bucks, he comes back, and he said, he agrees with my wife, “The unit needs to be replaced.” So, we spent $300 to get him, finally, to the point where he said, “Oh, it needs to be replaced.” Plus, American Home Shield paid this guy for, first, the thermostat you paid for, and then secondly, the heating element, and his labor and time. So, this guy made a lot of money on this job, and he never fixed it. So, we ended up getting rid of it, then we went and we bought another oven, and we had it installed, and we got the check from American Home Shield.
We took the cash-out option, and we used that check to go find our own unit and we got our own installer. And so, they were three horrible experiences dealing with AHS contractors. So, never use them again. The incompetency of the contractor for the oven and the ice machine, and then this other one issue, a lot of it is just the lack of knowledge of the AHS people that we deal with over the phone. They just don’t know. And it’s a shame, because we did have just recently replaced the motor and that went well. Two years ago, in July 17th, we had the coil replaced, that went very well. But these three other projects were horrible. The experience was bad. The oven was the first thing that we had to deal with, and that was probably two and a half, three years ago. It wasn’t long after we moved into the house that my wife realized that it would take forever to get our oven to a temperature and it wouldn’t hold the temperature.
In the end, I’m probably gonna go and look at another warranty company out there that I’ve done a little bit of research on. And you can terminate the contract any time for the monthly fee you pay them. And in our case, it’s just little pennies under 100 bucks a month. I’m gonna be looking at other people. And then, my other option is just to get rid of these warranty companies, and if things break, then I’ll just pay for them out of my checkbook. Fortunately, I'm in a position where I can afford to do that.
Ted,
I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your experience with AHS regarding your HVAC request. I have sent an email to you in an effort to get more information to assist you further. I look forward to hearing from you.

Our interactions with Grady's Air Conditioning & Heating Services went really well. My wife was very impressed with the individuals who came. They were able to resolve the issue. They did a really good job. They overlooked the whole system, and there was a couple things that they needed to fix, and they did, and it seems to be working well.
We've been with American Home Shield for a long time. We had another situation. I wasn’t really happy about the way it was handled. It was with the water heater situation that we just called in on. I was not impressed with the way that the people on the phone was handling the claims. We had to call multiple times. They really didn't wanna give me a really good answer. What happened was we paid our deductible. The water heater went out, and they wanted me to do the buyout option. They sent a contractor over here that was a really flighty type company. They wanna charge me $620 out of my pocket for modifications to my hot water system, which did not need to be done at all, and really torqued me off. I told AHS that I did not want them to do any work in my home. I tried to call the owner of the company.
It was called Mr. Rooter here in the League City, Houston area, and they could not give me any explanation at all. They said that they needed to add some modifications to my system to bring me up to code. And American Home Shield would not do anything about it except trying to get me to buyout, and so, I lost all the installation cost that I cannot recoup, but AHS would pay for the hot water heater. The installation and dismantling of the hot water heater would have to fall on my dime. I was pretty upset with that, and I could not get anybody at AHS on the phone to help me out. All I told them to do is I want another contractor besides Mr. Rooter to come out here and install it. And I was so upset about it because it would take a lot of my time out of the day to try to deal with this thing, and I was never going anywhere.
The lady from their buyout department told me that, “It is what it is. They were issued the work order. You’ll have to deal with them. There’s nothing we can do. Either you want a buyout with us, or you can go and work with them.” I said, “I’m not working with them at all.” What it made me feel like is that American Home Shield was forcing me to use a contractor that I thought was doing some unethical business, trying to charge me $620 to do an install, and the cost of my hot water heater was gonna cost me close to $500. So, now, I’m up to $1,200 and they really could care less. And I couldn't get any answers except, “It is what it is.” I know what he was doing. He was trying to screw me for the installation cost.
What I ended up doing is I called Lowe's, used their contractor, and there was no modifications that needed to be done. They were in and out of my house within one hour, took the hot water heater out of my attic, put the brand new one in there, and installed it. I’m still really kinda considering even staying with American Home Shield. I know there are other options out there for me, AHS' cost is quite a bit higher than other companies per month, and there are some things that AHS doesn't cover that other people cover like on pool pumps or pool motors.
Now, the water heater was a nightmare, and it pissed me off so bad that we were thinking about cancelling. There are times that I tell people, "Listen, we’ve had good experience with these guys." But no company’s gonna dictate to me who I’m gonna use and not use. And, usually, AHS doesn't have issues with companies. I was trying to explain to them, "If you have a complaint from a client that feels like they're being taken advantage of and lied to, you guys need to listen to what people are telling you on the phone. It’s not a joke. These are people that you have contracted within your company that are doing this kinda crap to people out here, and you’ll lose a lot of people."
I’ll tell everybody I know that has American Home Shield exactly what happened to me, and that they are trying to strong-arm me and my wife about using a contractor. One of the reasons I didn't want them in here was he didn't look very professional. He didn't do very much. And then, he didn't tell us about any modifications. He didn't tell us anything. And then, he called AHS when he called in the claim that he needs to do $620 worth of modifications, which were never communicated to us. So then, all of a sudden, we got into this big web of BS with him and his company. What really upset me with AHS is nobody on the phone could explain the buyout process. They didn't even have enough knowledge about what it was to explain it on the phone. So, then, they finally transferred me over to this other department.
A lot of the people that are answering the calls on their end cannot speak English very well, and they don't understand English very well. Sometimes, it can be very frustrating. They're nice, but they don't understand what’s going on. It’s almost like talking to a robot because they all sound exactly the same. When you tell them something, they don't listen to what you're telling them, and then, they just repeat again the same thing that they just told you. Still, overall, I like American Home Shield. I really don't have a major issue but If I was a person that didn't make a lot of money, and an extra $600 would really hurt me financially, it could devastate me. We’ve really had great experiences with American Home Shield as a whole.

But I wasn't happy with the fact that I didn't know when they were gonna be here, so I kinda wasted my whole day. They just said 8 to 5 o'clock. Then they showed up at the end of the day and it's kinda like I wasted my whole day waiting on them. That was crap. I coulda gone somewhere in the morning. I only get so much time off from work and now all of a sudden, I'm waiting for some company to come out here. They gotta tell the customer when they're gonna be here. And then I had to schedule again because it didn't hold. The tech put a new switch in, and it worked, but I tried it a couple of days later and it didn't work again. The AC and the thermostat were not connecting. There was some wiring issues occurring. I went online, which was easier than calling, to file the claim. I have a person who lives on the house, but when it comes to doing the appointment, it was very easy. American Home Shield told me that same day that the contractor Amen Air would call me to make an appointment. They called me immediately and they scheduled an appointment for the next day, which was very good.
After the service was completed, the technician called me to let me know what the issue was and that he had repaired it. Plus, he told me that they couldn't really do anything because my AC is not attached. It's a 10 feet way and the wiring is underground, so there was nothing that they could do with the wiring, which I understood because it was not part of the coverage insurance. Then, AHS called me the next day to let me know what the technician had told me. We had to call an outside AC company to go ahead and finish the project. Nevertheless, since the repair, the unit is doing good. I'd recommend AHS.

The AC kept shutting off. The contractor that American Home Shield sent replaced the thermostat and they did some stuff in the attic. They were here for about 2 hours and they came back a couple of days later. It took them like 10 minutes and they finally got it working right. One of my houses has been with American Home Shield for a little over a year and the other one has only been with them for a couple of months. What I don't like about submitting a claim online is if there's more than one thing you gotta do, you gotta do it individually. I have to make separate claims. For one thing, it’s multiple problems within the same system. If I have a plumbing problem and an electric problem, I can understand that. But if I have two electrical problems and I have to do it twice, that I don’t understand.

Submitting my claim to American Home Shield was easy. I spoke with a rep. My bathroom was leaking and I wanted them to understand what it was. They were very helpful. Then the contractor came and he was friendly. He had to put a new gasket and do some repairs on the thing the toilet sits on. He did what he had to do and the leak stopped. Since the repair, everything has been good.

We had a claim with American Home Shield on the refrigerator. I submitted it online because I'd rather do stuff on the web and have documentation of it. It's just easier for me. Then my most recent claim was for a faulty Electrolux microwave. The guy they sent out for the microwave was very good. He serviced the refrigerator as well. He knew that there was gonna be an issue with the microwave that day, but he couldn't service both on the same service call which was fine.
The guy came back and knew exactly what was wrong with the microwave, but they just couldn't find the part for it. We looked at the parts, but that particular model was discontinued. They also have no parts remaining in stock. We had to replace it. AHS sent me to a website with a very large selection of replacement opportunities and let me chose one which I thought was really good. I went in, and there were two models that I never heard of. That was a good experience. The new microwave is installed and working fine. Also, we're gonna have another claim in a week for an air conditioner.

Doing my claim online with American Home Shield was very easy. Third Generation came out for my disposal. It took a week for them to come out, but the tech fixed it within half an hour. He was in and out. He knew it couldn’t be fixed. He went out to his truck, got a disposal that was in his truck, brought it in, and installed it. He cleaned up after himself and was gone. The new disposal has been great. It’s funny because the other one was out and didn’t work for a while. And so, every time I turn on the disposal, I sort of brace myself because I’m so used to it being out. I’m very pleased with the service I get from American Home Shield. I had a Sears home warranty for years and years, and I was never pleased with them.

I've been with American Home Shield since 2015. When we bought this house, the Realtor wanted to do a different company for the home warranty but we told him we had to change them to American Home Shield 'cause we've been happy with the way American Home Shield has taken care of us. When I did a claim in August, the contractor did a really good job. He fixed our toilets. He was professional and efficient. He got it done and he did it right. If he needed to have a part replaced, he replaced the part on a couple of them. He didn't just try and piece it together so it would work and possibly break later.
The only thing that's a little aggravating is I also have a house with American Home Shield in Leavenworth, Kansas, but I had to go to a different web address to get to it. It's kinda weird. Every time I put in a claim, I just do it through the website which is pretty easy and straightforward, but I have to remember which one of the websites I have to go to for which house I needed to do the claim on. It's the same company so it would seem like I'd go to the same place to do both policies.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO MY WORST ENEMY! Twice now we have had to contact American Home Shield for a repair and both times it has been a pure nightmare. If I had to do over with I never would have signed up with this company. NOBODY IN CUSTOMER SERVICE SPEAKS CLEAR ENGLISH! The only people you will ever talk to that speak clear English if you do have to talk to them is the dispatch people.
The first person I spoke to did not do his job right and expedite the work order as he said he would, I was told I would be called back in 4 hours and after 4 1/2 I called back, was again told I would be contacted in 4 hours and again I had to call back after the 4 hours. I actually finally got a call back about 14 hours later only to be told there was nothing they could do at that point and I had to wait it out. Now we are looking at Thursday for a repair on our refrigerator that stopped working Friday night. Last year it was our A/C unit and it happened in July the hottest part of the year. It took over two weeks to get it repaired. Never ever again will I use the warranty company to cover anything. I will find a new company that has a much better service and customer service that speaks English that you can understand.

When there is an obvious communication error and a person is asking to speak to a more knowledgeable person about a problem, Please just transfer the call and let’s stop wasting each other’s time. I find it hard to be that there are no immediate floor supervisors available and that there is not a customer service number. I am completely disappointed. I have returned each email and tried to call with the message you left. It said, to respond with “option 3.” There is no option 3, only entering the extensions 10 digit # which I didn’t have.
That said, after 13 days, 3 companies (1 private that I hired) 5 days I or a family member graciously took off to meet with technicians to not fix the issue, my air was returned to working order by Next Gen. Steve was great, took his time, and did what needed to have been done all along.
However, my original review was less about the contractors and more regarding my constant contacts with AHS, having to constantly remind, inquire, set appointments, re-explain, and wait 13 days because of miscommunication between contractors and AHS, or no communication from AHS to me, the client. After spending $12,400 in 14 years of being a client, I would have hoped for better.

American Home Shield is a nationally recognized company. For that reason, I went with them and have had some good experiences with them in the past when it came to servicing smaller items in my home. However, it has been 8 days as of right now and my central AC is yet to be fixed. They have sent out two contractors to the house, the first one completely dishonest and inept, while the second, still in process of diagnosing and trying to fix the issue. However, the companies they send is not the reason for this review. When I request service be it online or by phone, I expect that when a contractor is assigned, they should be doing all of the leg-work at that point, following up, scheduling appointments, service calls, etc. If the company they send fails to do their due diligence and a follow-up is needed, a recall if you will, AHS should upon clear notification, reschedule thing. NOPE.
In fact, apparently, it is completely, out-of-sight-out-of-mind at AHS. I have had to follow up with both the contractor and AHS on now multiple recall appointments and status checks for appointments to have my AC fixed in this TEXAS summer heat. My house is 92 degrees on the inside and climbing for the past 8 days with 3 children and AHS keeps saying, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." This company has one job, get paid a service fee to locate, schedule, get repairs fixed, and follow up with their clients to make sure the repair is done correctly. So far, they cannot complete the first half of this task. Incompetence seems to reign at this company. After 14 years of doing business, it might to time to do business elsewhere or start my own competing business since I'm already doing the greater part of theirs.
Good Morning,

Updated on 09/12/2019: American Home Shield contacted me about my other review 5 times and I’ve replied but heard nothing back. Their focus is misplaced and they need to be more customer friendly. I expect a reply and solution from them but they are not very forthcoming.
Original review: I’m going on a month with no air conditioning. Just had the third vendor out and he advised he didn’t have to go into the attic to look at some part due to the issue being outside. He submitted the info to AHS and the fix was denied due to him not going inside and looking at the part that was working fine. This was the third vendor; the first said the outdoor unit was beyond repair but they can't replace it, the second was unprofessional and actually threw a piece of my ac unit across the yard because he couldn’t figure out where a wire went, he also told a lie to AHS about the condition of my house and said he wasn’t coming back.
Rather than believe me as the homeowner the repair tech was believed. I even offered to send photos and was told no thanks. There is no indoor issue and AHS is now impeding the repair of my ac unit. My husband has a medical condition that requires him to ensure he doesn’t get overheated, which I have advised to AHS. I’ve called multiple times without resolution, can’t get a straight answer from their reps, reps don’t seem to listen to anything I say or can’t understand due to language barrier. This is overall one of the absolute worst companies I have ever interacted with.

They explained what the issue was and they took care of ordering of the parts. They were pretty efficient in terms of communication and keeping us updated on where the parts were and when they were gonna come over. When the gentleman from Expert Pools came in to fix the heater, the engine was not working well because there was an air leak. So, he tightened that up. Then, he clicked the heater on, but it clicked something else. So, everything was working fine before, and then, it stopped working. When I called it, I thought that maybe they can fix the heater since it is covered. But he said that he did not try even to work the heater. He said it was fixed. But after he was leaving, I said if he could just take a look at the system to make sure. His answer was, “I have my car on. I have to go to the next appointment.” The gentleman only needed one minute to take a look at it. I then went back, and noticed that the chlorine linker was not working. I thought that maybe it was scheduled the next day. I took a water test and I took it for them. They said, “Well, there is no chlorine.”
So, I thought that it was the problem with the electricity. It was not coming to it because it was not turning on. I brought an electrician and he said it was working. I just needed to reprogram the system. He said that whoever touched this stripped the system. So, I called Expert Pools saying that they can tell me how to program it on the phone and that I am handy. However, the lady gave an attitude. I just wanted to get the pool fixed.
Right now, AHS charged me twice for an electrician because the electrician was supposed to be with the garage door, too. When the garage door showed up, he said he was not an electrician. When I called AHS back, they said that they will need to bring another electrician. When they did that, they charged me another 100. It happened that the garage door spring was broken because it kept going up and down and I told that to the garage door guy. He said, “You have to pay 300, and then, we’ll fix the spring.” I said, “Fine.” As soon as he left, he didn't even wait to check it. It went back up and down again, and it was a new spring. So, it is unplugged because the gentleman said I cannot have it on. Yesterday, I told AHS that all this money has been charged and nothing has been fixed. Overall, aside from charging me an extra, I do not have a problem with American Home Shield. Every time I call, they are very nice. The only problem is with their contractors.

The contractor who came out was so knowledgeable. He showed me a lot more about how to upkeep the equipment, so that I don’t have the problem to begin with. He found things wrong with it that I didn’t know may have been wrong. We ran tests right in front me to see it wasn’t going through all the six cycles. Then, with the new part, it goes through all the cycles. He did a great job.

We're really satisfied with American Home Shield. We've only had to call somebody for the AC, and they reached out to us within 24 hours to set up a time for someone to come out. We had somebody out here in May to fix it, and the guy said it just needed Freon or antifreeze. He added it that day and was supposed to come back and check it a couple of days later, and he never came back. One Friday we came home from work and the AC had stopped working, and it was super hot in here. Andrew went out and used the water hose to rinse everything off, and he reset the breakers a couple of times. He messed with it a couple of hours before it came back on.
We called AHS again because we needed to see what was going on. All Tech Air Conditioning came out and those guys were awesome. They sent out three guys that day and they looked at it. They were here for about 45 minutes and did all the stuff they were supposed to do, and they talked to Andrew about everything. They did the temperature check and all the stuff and said there was nothing wrong with it. We think what might have been happening is we have our girls half the time, so they use those bedrooms of our house. When they’re gone, we always shut off the vents in there and let the air run in the parts that we use the house.
The guy said that we should try to leave all the registers open 24/7 'cause he said there’s some sort of static pressure that might have made the air stop working. He told us to try that for the next couple of weeks and see how it did. We’ve been trying to do that and it seems to be keeping up. The tech said if it were to stop working again, to give them a call and they would come back out as if it wasn’t working because there may be something else going on. But as of right now it's been running fine and we haven't had any issues.

It was just too old. So, he replaced it. He was in and out. He was pretty fast. So, it worked for me. He was very polite and very nice. I knew when they were coming. They let me know by phone. My experience with American Home Shield has been horrible. I'm very dissatisfied with the company. I've had to call multiple times to get something done. It's still not done, and the latest supervisor I spoke with ended the call on me because he did not wanna hear what I had to say because it took too much of their time. After they kept me on hold for 45 minutes, when I wanted to give him the entire story for five minutes, he told me, "I don't need to stay on the phone for this. I'm gonna go ahead and end this call." I said, "You will not hang up on me," and he said, "Yes, I will. I'm gonna end this call now." He did. I would love for someone to listen to that call because he didn't wanna hear my frustration.
He said, "You've got my word. I'll take care of it" because I was frustrated that no one's done what they said they'd do, and I told him that. But he hasn't because I had to call them again. I finally went to Facebook and messaged them because I don't wanna hear from anybody else who will not help me. I want it in writing and that they would get back with that supervisor because it's noted he was gonna do it and has not.
When I originally submitted the claim for service, the ice maker wasn't working. So, they sent out a guy. What I was trying to tell that supervisor was about the company that they originally sent me. I told him that they should take them off their list of preferred vendors because they were horrible and I would never recommend them. I told the supervisor, "If you can provide any feedback, this company is not worth your time." He didn't wanna hear it. I was asking them, "What happens after hours? Because depending on the hours I call you guys, I get good service or bad service." He was like, "I can't tell you anything about that. I can just tell you that we'll help you." I said, "Okay. Well, I'm just telling you, if I call after 4:00, I get no help. If I call before that, you guys semi-helpful." So, I was trying to provide feedback. I was trying to share with him what was going on and where I think they have an opportunity.
The vendor came in, did nothing, and then said they did something. They wouldn't send in the bill to AHS, so I was waiting for the ticket to be reassigned because he said it was a plumbing issue and not an appliance issue. He did nothing except tell me that. And so then, I had to wait for him to submit it so AHS would send out a plumber without billing me because it was the same issue. The plumber came and he said, "Oh, he never turned on the water switch." So it wasn't plumbing, it was the water switch, but the appliance still didn't work. Then I had to call back and say I need someone to come do the appliance now because the plumber said it was not them. So, now I have a third person come out.
AHS assigned me to that same vendor, and I said, "I will not have them back in my home. Please choose another vendor." So then, they chose another vendor, and they didn't tell me who they chose or when they chose or if they did, and someone just showed up at my house. He was great. He said the ice maker's motor was out and he'd order me a new one. In this whole time, I'm not paying multiple $75 fees because it's the same issue and AHS has had a service provider that failed to do any work or any troubleshooting for that matter.
I paid a $75 fee, and then they billed me for a second one and they said, "We'll credit you that second one because it's a one-time courtesy," which is BS because it's not a courtesy. It's what they should do because the guy didn't do his job. But as long as I'm not paying, I'm not gonna argue. They said that they would credit that back and haven't. So now, my account shows past due as of last I got notice. That was when I emailed the Facebook group and they said, "No, they said they'd credit you, so we'll make sure they do. It takes seven to 10 days from now, so stay tuned."
I'm new to AHS, unfortunately, and can't get out. It's just horrible that I'm being put in the middle of this. I'm getting zero ownership from the company on it and zero acknowledgement of my frustrations, and nobody wants to take the time to listen, even though I had to sit on the phone with them for over seven hours of time for an ice maker to be fixed. And it's like that AHS doesn't wanna give me five minutes to listen to my rant. That's not acceptable to me.
They sent us the ice maker and never came back and install it, and we had to install it ourselves. They had it mailed to our house. I don't know if it's working correctly. We get ice, but it's really grinding loud whenever it processes ice. I've never had an ice maker sound like that. But I have not called AHS back because I don't want to deal with another fee. It's more stressful than anything for me to deal with AHS. It makes me sweat and cry talking to them.

They told me what needed to be done and worked out the arrangement. They scheduled the time to come back and do it. Now, instead of having to watch TV in 86 degrees temperature, it’s all good. It worked out fine.

The last two contractors I've had come in to make repairs have done excellent work. So I really appreciate American Home Shield taking the time to get contractors for these types of jobs. Thank you. One claim that I had was for my toilet that was leaking. I submitted the claim and I had a callback within a couple of days then I had an appointment scheduled within a couple of days. The experience was excellent.
The name of the guy who came to see me is Steve and he was excellent as well. I even had a courtesy call prior to the day he showed up and also on the day he showed up. I understand why he had that window but it was really helpful to have this courtesy call. It's always really helpful when you know when they'd be there. He showed up on time, made the repair and was out within 10 minutes. He also answered all the questions I had while I was there. He did a good job. The toilet has been excellent since then.

We had a shower valve that was leaking. We could not turn off the valve completely. The contractor sent by American Home Shield came and replaced the valves. The guy took care of the issue the same day. That plumbing claim went very well. He was a little gruff and not very friendly, but he wasn't rude. He was fine and very diligent. I had five different repairs going on during that time period, and he was the least friendly of the bunch. But, they were all professional. I had a pool pump and the pool guy did a great job. He was very friendly and very quick. Then, I had a washing machine that needed fixing. It took a couple of weeks to get the parts, but once they got the parts, the same guy who came out and assessed it replaced the parts. He was, again, very friendly. And I had a electrician on a ceiling fan, who was excellent and also diligent.
However, with ceiling fans, AHS gives that limited lifetime warranty. But they do it where you have to take the fan down, box it up, pay to send it to the company, and then pay to send it back. And it’s a 15-year-old fan and it takes quite a while to do that. So,they actually didn’t pay for anything other than the serviceman to install it, because I had to buy a new fan and I had to pay for that. Because of the limited lifetime warranty, it costs more to send it in than the cost of a new fan. So, it is a gimmick that the fan manufacturers take advantage of and it is a gimmick that then American Home Shield takes advantage of. Rather than acknowledging the gimmick from the fan manufacturers, AHS goes with it and says, “Well, we don’t have to repair it or replace it.” Out of the five things, AHS did great on four of them.

We have an air conditioning unit and it needed Freon which was costing us $1,600. To fix it, it wasn’t making sense to spend $1,600 to this thing so American Home Shield gave us a choice. They were going to spend that much money on fixing it so we just decided to get a new one and they reimbursed us for the part that they were going to change. But we were without air conditioning for almost six weeks. It was so hard.
American Home Shield should scrutinize their techs before they add them on because we had a lot of problems with the techs who had come in. Some are so nice but some are more anxious to find extra things that they need to do. I wasn’t very happy with the first technician, but this one was very nice and honest. He tested the air conditioning unit out and told me that there was a leak and what was happening. The first one said we had to fill it with Freon then they will fix it but that sounded silly. Also, we have to wait a lot when we call American Home Shield and that’s one thing I don’t like at all. They really give you a runaround. You call and call and call.

I do my claims online and it's very easy to do. I got response from American Home Shield right way via email and text when I submitted a claim for the toilet. And then, I was contacted by the plumber. The internal working parts of the toilet were not heating properly, and when they did, it still leaked. So, I had to shut it off, and then the plumber fixed it. They were very professional. They do a good job, and they’re very neat. They are very good to contact me when they’re coming. Then, they tell me when they’re en route. They’re always on time. I’ve dealt with them a couple of times, and I really like them.
When I bought the house in 2008, American Home Shield was part of the purchase, and I have kept it ever since because I’m on a limited income and the feeling of the protection. I have checked with other companies, and price-wise, American Home Shield is right in there with everybody else. And so, I see no reason to change, as long as I’m happy with the service.

A faucet was leaking on the outside. I filed a claim to American Home Shield online and the experience was fine. The contractor contacted me by phone and I liked him - his personality, his honesty. He's a straight shooter. In fact, I’ll probably use him for plumbing that’s not under warranty. We rented this house for four years before we purchased it, and it had American Home Shield under them. We had a lot of crappy problems with the air conditioning system then. When we bought the house, the seller paid for a year and then we renewed one year.
Right now, they’re too expensive. My sister was in the middle of having open-heart surgery at the time the renewal came up. I went ahead and I renewed it. It went up $300 more than the cost and I just didn’t have time to deal with it then. I wanted to maintain some type of coverage since I’ve had such a crappy AC. They ended up replacing the outside unit and the inside unit, but I’m still having to add on Freon. I just don’t know when it’s gonna break again. So I’m not that happy with them overall, but as far as what the plumber did, I’m totally satisfied. But I don’t know whether I’ll keep them. AHS is horrible to deal with on air conditioning issues. It was basically two and a half years of horror dealing with them. They gotta have some type of policy to cover for air conditioning and heating systems, the big stuff.

I would call sometimes, and I would use their online sometimes. They were always polite and helpful. Sometimes, it was frustrating but it always is any time you’re having to deal with any company, and you have something broken in your house. Sometimes, the frustration was with the people that were working, but most of them were very good.

We had American Home Shield in two different homes and we've been with them close to 16 years. My sister is a Realtor and a broker and she recommends them very highly. We had them out here to fix stuff like leaky toilets and it's been great. Also, the folks at the appliance repair place here were very nice and professional. When we lived in Midland, Texas, we had a dishwasher claim and they took care of that.
Recently, we had discovered that one of the digits on our microwave oven had gone out on our timer. The tech that came out did a research to see if he could find the part to replace what was not working in the microwave and he couldn't find it. He said that the company would have to do some research and that they'll get back with us. And so, he left and we did a little research on the internet ourselves. We found out that this particular model is being discontinued so that's why the guy couldn't find it. I called the office locally back and told them what happened.
We found the same type of microwave through Home Depot and went ahead and bought it. It's kind of a weird deal. When the people built the cabinet for this house, they cut a big hole for the microwave to fit in and then it has a trim kit around the outside of it so only one of those large 2.2 cubic foot microwaves can fit in there. Everything else is smaller now. That was the problem so we just didn't even try to get any kind of reimbursement and we just paid for it ourselves.

I watched everything over the camera because they did it on the outside and they didn't even have to get inside the house, so no one had to be there. They came out and replaced the fan motor, but put the old fan on. The knuckle that holds the fan to the drive was too big, so it was still making a noise, and they came right back out after they ordered a new fan, and fixed it. So, everything was perfect and there has been no issues since the repair.

Our central AC went out and I submitted the claim by phone. American Home Shield started out fine. The first weekend was the Labor Day weekend, so it was a long weekend, and I knew if they didn't show up on Friday, there was nothing that was gonna get done until Tuesday which was exactly what happened. So, I had some very serious arguments with the American Home Shield guys. I said that if they didn't have a company that knows what they are doing then they should get another contractor. I also gave them the contractor who put the system in the house because their name is on the system. But they said, "Well, they don't work with us, so then you would be on your own." I said that that is not what an insurance is for. I said, "If nothing else, declare an emergency service so that somebody shows up the same day that we've been complaining about for a week and a half now." By that time it was Wednesday already.
The company that they assigned has been sending out people who said that all sorts of stuff was wrong. The first guy tried and he came back three times. Then AHS sent another guy from another company to come by. He was here last Saturday, and he did some work but he couldn't find the resolution either. He said that he had no experience with this system, so my first question was, "Why are you here?" Then the A-US Air sent another guy on Sunday who seemed to know what he was doing, and he has been working with me. He has been very responsive and he communicated with me yesterday after he left and this morning. He is talking to Trane today to get resolutions on various bits and pieces that he feels are not correct. Also, he temporarily got the system to run, so, at least, I'm relief of the 100 plus degree weather inside my house.
I have been an American Home Shield customer since 1995, and we have always recommended them to everybody. They are fast and they do very good work. In this case, they failed to have the right contractor respond. The contractor at one point hang up on me because I was asking him to do something that he did not feel like doing. It has been a two-week nightmare.
Cornelis,

I called American Home Shield and told them I needed a maintenance guy to come and take a look at the washer. The rep was really informative and friendly. She was really good. My only issue with American Home Shield is it's a little hard to contact someone and it takes a while for them to get back to me.
The contractor who came for the washer was fine. They said it was a computer issue on the system. The only problem was he didn't give me information about what was going on. I pretty much felt like I was left in the air because nobody called me back to let me know if they were ordering a part or not. They should have given me more information. Also, when I called the appliance company, no one would pick up the phone.
After a week or so, American Home Shield told me they were gonna look into it and see what was going on. They looked into the system and they saw that they were trying to get the part ordered. But they saw that the part was no longer in stock. They didn't have it at all for that machine. I found out they were gonna replace the unit. They talked to me about that this morning so I have to go look online which washer would be compatible for the area I'm gonna put the washer in. They told me I could get the same brand and if it's not the same brand, I would just pay the difference of the unit that I got.

I went out to check on it a couple of weeks ago and I heard this problem so when I came back home, I called up American Home Shield to set up an appointment for someone to come out to look at it. I called and spoke to a rep and they said that they were gonna refer it out to the appropriate contractor. It was a central air condition situation, so they said that they were gonna call and reach out to a central air technician and they would work it out with me to set up the arrangements.
Then I had someone meet the contractor there and they were able to resolve it right away. It’s a new property I just bought and I'm a new homeowner, so I decided to get some type of warranty service for the place, and it worked out well. Thank God I had the policy. It’s always on the safe side to have the warranty. In case something major comes about, at least AHS could look at it and make a determination on which would be the best way to go and go from there.

This is the first time we used AHS for a claim. We live in Florida, so it's very hot. Our AC went out and we called AHS around 6:00 pm on 9/4/19. We paid our $100 deductible online, and was told that World Class AC in St Cloud would give us a call. We received phone #s of 407-955-4724 and cell # 407-433-3716. We advised that St Cloud was not close to where we lived. They assured us that they would call that night, as we advised how it was very hot and we needed someone that night.
On 9/4/19, we called World Class twice at the phone #s listed above requesting that they call us ASAP. We received no calls from them, so we called AHS on the morning of 9/5/19 and advised that it was to be over 100 degrees heat index and the house was very hot. They advised that we would need to wait until 4:00 pm so they could cancel the dispatch and get someone else there. We again called requesting to speak to a manager. AHS advised that they would call World Class to see if they were closed. Our call got disconnected.
Again we called back requesting a manager. AHS advised the same as above. I demanded a manager, was put on hold, and then was advised no managers were available. I told AHS that this was not right. He then said he'd call World Class. He advised that he left a message and requested we wait another hour so World Class could call back. I advised they had 18 hours to call back and didn't.
While on hold I found another phone number, and called it. They answered and stated they could be here next Tuesday. We advised this was unacceptable and requested they cancel the dispatch, which they did. I advised AHS of this, and he kept arguing with me, advising we'd have to wait and denying me to speak to a manager. I requested that my $100 deductible be returned and he stated that if the dispatch was canceled that it would be 14 to 21 days before it would be returned. He still would not give me a manager, or someone who could help, so I hung up.
We called another company and they came out within 45 minutes. It's impossible to find a phone number to call besides customer service, which will not give you a manager to speak with. They only follow their "guidelines", and are unable to make any changes due to special circumstances. I believe AHS should pay for the service call as well as the repairs that were completed. We had no choice but to call someone else as we could not get any help, and this was a dire situation with the heat index being over 100 degrees, I have asthma and I babysit my special needs granddaughter.
Good Morning Norman,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

I called for service about three months ago and the service repair guy said that it was just the fan. Then, most recently, I had visitors coming over and when I got home, it completely stopped working. I just got the service done, and I thought that the situation was gonna be resolved and I'm not gonna have any issues but then, it went out again. The service provider who came out the second time took a close look at it. I didn't wanna leave his side until he has actually figured out what was wrong because I couldn't afford to pay the $80 again for the same situation. So, he looked at it and he said it looked like the electrical box has been detached and it was loose. They sent out another guy to come out and look at it, and he replaced the box.
The contractors were courteous and very professional. Both of the most recent guys came out and did what they were supposed to do, and they were very quick. The last time that he came, my window was from 2 o'clock to 6 o'clock but he finished up a job earlier than he expected, and he was able to come extremely early, which worked best for me and my schedule. So, everything was perfect. Since then, everything has been great. Everything is moving and working fine. I haven't had any problems and I can actually hear the fan. So, the electric box that was out there was not really sturdy because now I can actually hear it turn on and shut off.

I’ve only had to use the service three times and I called American Home Shield like I usually do to submit a claim. They have a fee that they charge and then, they use a very reputable appliance repair service that’s local. Those guys were very good, attentive and do the job. We’re out in the sticks and this house is very rural so, they have to sometimes schedule us on a certain day. They make their rounds out to this area on a Friday so if you call, you have to schedule around that. Some of the components went bad in the dryer and some parts had to be replaced. Since then, its performance has been very good. I would recommend AHS. They’ve honored their claim.

Their reps were professional. They were able to switch it over to a plumbing company instead of the washing machine company. The contractor came when I wasn't home, because my wife and I both work 12 hours a day, but they were able to come in and get the issue taken care of.

We've been with American Home Shield for about three or four years and I tell everybody about them. Customer service has been very good. I had an issue with the refrigerator and American Home Shield sent out somebody for it. It was wonderful. I added a claim for my stove. The stove was very old and they had a recall. We received a new glass top stove and Ralph Transport brought it. But they couldn’t take the old one out so they left the new product with us. My husband looked in the book and it said that professional electricians had to install it.
I called American Home Shield and they sent Mr. Fix-it. It was very quick. By the time I was talking to someone there, I got a beep and it was Mr. Fix-it. A technician was on his way over to help us out. I understand we wouldn’t get our $100 refunded to us because American Home Shield switched it from Ralph Transport to Mr. Fix-it. We weren’t eligible for that. When the technician from Mr. Fix-it came, he was very nice. Apparently, the stovetop comes in 30 or 36 inches and the 30-inch one that we got would just go right to the floor. The guy put some little wood at my husband’s suggestion. He did it all for us. We also have an air conditioner problem and Air Boss was our given contractor. We had them here for our air conditioning issue before and the problem wasn’t corrected. It was a recall and they’re coming back out between 1:00 and 5:00 today.

We had an issue with our fridge, and so we called American Home Shield. They sent a tech out who diagnosed it very quickly as an issue that could not be fixed. From there, there was nothing that he could do and we had to figure out what they wanted to do from there. He told us that it would probably be a week or so until we heard from them, but he also made it clear he wasn’t 100% sure about that. Our fridge was dripping and leaking onto the wood floor so we didn’t want to wait very long. We waited until we got the official email from them that the claim had been not closed, but moved on. The next morning we called American Home Shield to figure out what we were supposed to do. We escalated to find out what we were allowed to do, and then went and got a new fridge. At this point, we've sent them the receipt and we are waiting for payment from them.
We also had some issues with whoever put the fridge in the first time. We bought this house a few years ago, and the lady who sold it to us couldn’t figure out a way to get rid of the fridge. So we offered to just leave it for us, which was awesome and wonderful. But when we got back there, we found out that whoever had put it in for her had broken off the water valve accidentally. The on-off thing was gone, so we had to get a plumber in here and they had to completely replace the one on it. We bought the fridge on Saturday of Labor Day weekend with the intention of getting it delivered on Sunday. But instead we had to get a plumber out here. Overall American Home Shield did their job as they are supposed to do it, and we will continue to pay them money to fix our appliances.

American Home Shield sent out Keepin It Cool when our microwave wasn’t working. They had to replace the circuit board. They were great. The tech was on time, and I showed him what it was and what it was not doing. He knew immediately what it was, and he wrote down the part number and the brand of the microwave. He had to order the part, and a week and a half later, the part came in. He came in, took the microwave front off, put in the new circuit board, and everything worked.
I recommend American Home Shield. Usually, the contractor they send are pretty good. And if I have any questions about that contractor, I will immediately call them back and they will send out a second person. They sent out a plumber once who came and he said that something was not covered. I said that couldn’t be true because that was not what was happening. American Home Shield sent another plumber out, and the other plumber said he didn’t understand why the first plumber said what he did. The problem was a broken diverter valve, and he went on to replace it. I also told American Home Shield to not ever send the first plumber back because he didn’t even bother to check.
When the air conditioning unit wasn’t working, American Home Shield sent a AC guy. He didn’t even look at it. He took the cover off and said it was dirty and needed to be cleaned, and then he left. American Home Shield called back and said that it was not functioning because it hasn’t been cleaned. I said that it was not true because I had the whole thing cleaned two weeks ago. I have it serviced every year by another firm. I sent American Home Shield a copy of the invoice from the company that cleaned it, and they sent out another air conditioning guy. And the guy said he didn’t understand why the previous guy said it hadn’t been cleaned because the filter and screening out front looked good. He said that it was the capacitor that went bad. And that’s the guy I had been using ever since.

I had a claim and it seemed to have went real smoothly. American Home Shield has a call center in India which is who I initially called. They took my credit card info and I was a little nervous about that ‘cause I don't like giving my credit card info to people overseas. But everybody’s friendly and nice. The guys from Keeton Plumbing came out within four days and got it fixed. They identified the problem quickly. Within an hour, they were back on the site with the parts they needed. I'm real happy with those fellas. They were really efficient.
They charged $75 which is a deductible. I paid that upfront but when I looked on my bank account, it said "reoccurring payment." I thought that’s kinda weird. Reoccurring means every month, they pull that out. Then, I started thinking if these overseas companies can just take money out at will. But I’m also thinking American Home Shield is a US-based company so maybe not. I’m kinda waiting to see if they will actually do that this month and if this reoccurring payment starts going through, I wouldn't recommend them highly. Other than that, I’m really happy with the service so far.

The central air conditioning was not maintaining the temperature. I submitted a service request with AHS and the first tech who came out was Smart Cooling. It was discovered that there was a leak in the system and the system was four pounds down. So, the first resolution offered was that they would fill it with new Freon and do a Stop Leak. 63 days later, which was unfortunately three days outside of the callback period, it started doing the same thing again. So, I contacted AHS and Dale HVAC Heating and Air Conditioning Cooling showed up. They didn’t wanna check for the dye, the leak identifier in the system, and they used a little sniffer device and soapy water trying to find the leak. They didn’t find it, so they filled the system and drove away, which I was rather upset with.
So, I called back for a second opinion from American Home Shield and they told me that if the diagnosis was the same thing, that no leak was discovered, I'd be charged another service fee. Then, Smart Air Conditioning came back out and they did identify a leak in the internal a-frame coil inside the house. It was resolved properly with no additional fee. They covered the replacement cost of the two new coils and all the 13 pounds of Freon, which was at $65 a pound and rather expensive. So, American Home Shield lived up to their second opinion policy.
Still, I had to pay the $75 fee for the initial call and another $75 for the second contractor that came out. And both times I had to pay the Freon out-of-pocket on the leakage part. On the first time, I had to pay four pounds of Freon and the next time, I had to pay two pounds. I wound up paying 360 total on Freon, plus the two call out fees. So, 360 + 150 = 510 total for the experience. American Home Shield’s policy on the Freon pricing was a little bit unclear to us, but I understand it. They only pay $10 a pound and the rest of the fee is charged to the homeowner. At the end of the day, I'm happy because the last repair was inside my warranty period. It started in February and there's a 60-day callback rule. And American Home Shield lived up to their contract.

I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield for my rental property garage door. A good rep assisted me and got a contractor out quickly. The techs who came did good quality work and got the repair done the same day. I haven't had complaints from my tenant since then.

I had a dishwasher that was leaking on the floor. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and they were courteous. They took all the information and said they would get a vendor and get them right to me. When the serviceman came, he said not to use the dishwasher at all. He was courteous, prompt, and very professional. There were three parts that weren’t working. They could replace the two parts, but they didn't make one of the parts anymore. So, we’re gonna have to replace our dishwasher. American Home Shield already sent me the information on that and I picked which their replacement.

I’ve had pretty good experience with American Home Shield. BA Appliance Repair came out for the washing machine, while Wind Bender came out for the replacement of a water heater which was rusted out and leaking all over the basement. The technicians were courteous and professional when they came out.

Within a couple of days after I filed the claim for an outlet that didn’t work, American Home Shield sent a contractor out. The first guy couldn’t take care of it so they had to send somebody else and the issue has been resolved. The whole thing went very smoothly.
Good morning Stephen,
I am very glad to hear about your most recent experience and the smooth process to have your outlets repaired.

My husband called American Home Shield when the hot water heater once again got spider webs and this and that and what have you. Their reps have always been helpful. My husband has been very pleased. He’s retired and at home so he does a lot of that contact, and he has never been disappointed. We called in our claim either on a Saturday or Sunday, and then Choice Plumbing and Heating came Monday before noon. They cleaned off everything, checked everything, and we were good to go. We really liked those young men very much. We know those young men from when we lived in Clinton county, and we were so pleased and surprised when they showed up the very first time. We know they’re good. We know their families. We know their reputation, and we would be really happy to have them anytime.
We had an air conditioning issue this summer and we expected Choice to come, but then it was someone from the Illinois side. My husband was happy with them also. Very informative. We like to know what’s wrong, if it’s something we can avoid. He said if we couldn’t have a choice, he would take those guys. He was happy with them. We have recommended AHS and we will renew our service with them again for another year for sure. We appreciate it.

I've had American Home Shield just a little over a month ago when I bought the home. When they called to give me some information, I just happened to mention that the gas valve on our stove was rusted and very, very hard to turn. Even with the pipe grips, it had no hand on it. The rep was very helpful and set up the appointment over the phone. The contractor that came out was very professional and very fast. He replaced the valve the same day and it was done 40 minutes tops.

Advanced Heating & Air Conditioning came out after we spoke to a representative at American Home Shield to file a claim. The interaction with the rep was very good and then those with the contractor were very positive as well. The AC is now better than before because it wasn’t cooling. But what we don’t like is that over these years, a part has been constantly being replaced in our AC. We call when we think it’s something that’s really major to American Home Shield but we know that they don’t pay for the installation of the Freon because our AC is an older unit. And FREON is very expensive. So rather than paying for American Home Shield's contractor to come out, we have to pay somebody to charge because it’s even more than what is charged for the service fee. It’s just frustrating.
It’s very upsetting that contractors have had to replace the blades under the fan and do something to the compressor when they come out. Then sometimes when we get the FREON people to come out, they have to do a small repair as well. The unit needs to be replaced because it’s not functional. It gets the job done but it’s costing us every year, as far as the American Home Shield warranty, the maintenance of it and the utilities. It uses so much electricity to function. The contractor American Home Shield sent also recognized that it was a very outdated unit.
We’re finding out that we’re paying out more money. We’re trying to figure out whether we need to just save our money and buy a new air conditioning unit. We’re caught between a rock and a hard place. We’ve been with American Home Shield for over 20 years. We could’ve bought several AC units. We could’ve also replaced those couple of things that we’ve used American Home Shield for. We have to know when to cut our losses here and we’re losing every year. Otherwise, the warranty has been a great service. We highly recommend them to our friends. We tell everyone that they really need the service. We had to have our dishwasher looked at one time. There are some things we keep the warranty for.
