I was trying to do preparation for the hurricane, which was moving things off of my patio and into the garage. The garage door opener worked perfectly from the stationary button on the door in the garage but I have four remotes and none of them worked. They were all canceled out. As near as I could figure, it had to do with this lighting strike nearby which had happened weeks prior. When I would step over the electric eye to get in and out of the door, it worked fine too. But because of the storm coming and because of the inconvenience of not having the ability to open the door with the remote, I was trying to get this handled prior to the storm.
I was having issues with my computer that day and I thought I was just gonna go ahead and call American Home Shield. So I called on the phone. They found me in the system and set up the claim. They told me that someone would be calling me from the garage door company and setting up the time. That happened in less than an hour after the call to AHS. It was really fast. I expected the appointment would be several days later but they set up an appointment for the very next day.
Moe from Ace's Garage came out but prior to that, I had been on the phone with Genie, the company that owns the proprietary on the garage door. The person on the line had tried everything with me and decided maybe the issue was a circuit board in the opener itself so he wasn’t gonna try to do anything more. He said I had to have someone come and look at it. So I was expecting it was something fairly complicated but when Moe showed up, he climbed up on the ladder that I still had in place and it took him about a minute to do what he needed to do. He climbed back down the ladder, pushed remotes on all four and reset them, and it was good to go. He got the job done.
But the big benefit that I got out of having him here was with the numerous questions I had about my garage door opener. We have high humidity and hurricanes, and there are issues that come with it. So I was asking him about lubrication, how often I should do it and where I should do it. And he was wonderful. He answered all of my questions.
He made some other little adjustment for me and although I already knew where the door lock was that we would use in case of a hurricane, he went over that as well. I was thinking that the quality of my garage door was not so great but he explained that it’s a really high-quality door that withstands up to a category 6 so it’s a good door. That was really reassuring. And although he had an opportunity to upsell, he didn’t. That really says a lot about him and his company because he wasn’t sent here to try to generate more business for them, which I’ve had with vendors in the past. Moe was a really great guy and I would highly recommend Ace's Garage.
I've also already recommended American Home Shield. Our home was a brand-new construction so there was a builder’s warranty for a period of time. But enough time passed that I started looking at things, especially for the air conditioner because that’s always kinda the biggie. If that was gonna start having problems on me, I wanted to have some coverage on it. It’s also reassuring to have a company behind it in case I have a problem with the vendor.
The vendor has a relationship with the company so they would wanna make sure that the customer is happy. Whereas if I call someone on my own, I can complain to my neighbors but that wouldn't help me. If I've got the warranty company standing behind me deciding they need to get involved, the vendor risks losing future business if he doesn’t step up and do good. So I have a lot of confidence in warranty companies in terms of what they will do. I actually used to work for a home warranty company and at the time that I was doing it, AHS was getting started around that same time. They were more or less number one in the field and we were number two. So they’ve been number one all these years so they're who I would think of to do.

We had a ceiling fan issue for about a month and a half or so. My husband submitted a claim to AHS by the phone and the contractor that they sent out dealt with it and did a great job. They followed through, discussed and gave rationality as to why things were happening as they were. We have six fans. At the end we said, since the tech was here, he could take a look at them and see whether we have any concerns but we didn’t. But one of the fan just wasn’t working at all. So, he had to take it and took some part out of it and replaced it.
There were two that the tech needed to give us information about. One of them, he couldn’t do anything about, particularly because it's interfering with somebody else’s remote control, that it comes on whenever it's ready and it goes off whenever it's ready. It is scary that all of a sudden, it's running. But the other one that I couldn’t get to come on was because of a user error and it as just a matter of operation. So far, we've been recommending AHS to other people.

My experience with American Home Shield was very good. I submitted a claim online for the air conditioner and the website is user-friendly. I was told to expect the contractor to come out within one day and they did. The contractor was excellent too. He replaced an electrical part and the air conditioner works great now. It's perfect.

On my stove, when you first turn on the burner, it does a clicking until the fire comes on and then the clicking stops. Normally it would stop in about 20 mins, and when the clicking didn't stop, it went on for four hours straight. I was freaking out ‘cause I didn't know if my house was gonna blow up. I turned off the gas, and I had to turn off the power in my kitchen because I didn't know what was gonna happen. I called American Home Shield and they said, “Monday’s a holiday, so someone can come on Tuesday.” So, I took the day off on Tuesday and I waited all day Tuesday. The rep from the contractor company said, “No, we can’t come on Tuesday.” She was trying to give me a later date, and I was like, “I have kids.” I already hadn't had power in my kitchen since Saturday, so it had been four days. She was really rude. Nonetheless, they were able to come out and the repairman that came out fixed it. He was nice and AHS was fine.
Good afternoon Corinne,
Thank you for providing your feedback. We apologize for your experience with the phone representative. We look forward to our continued business together.

The contractor came out, looked at the AC, did the required examination and he said that we needed an electrician. He asked where the box was and I showed him where the box was that I knew. He said there was another box and he went around to the side of the house and that was where the box was located. He flipped it on, and then, the AC unit came on and went off. He did some more examination and then, he flipped it back off again and he went back to the box again. Then, he went back to the thing, and he did some more examination. He said it was our compressor and I asked him what would cause it to go out. I also asked if it would give some sign or warning and he said that sometimes, I wouldn’t get a warning.
The technician said we had to let American Home Shield know and he was saying some more people will come out and do what needed to be done. I asked him if he couldn’t do it that day and he said that was their procedure but he was gonna call AHS as well to kinda pick up the pace a little bit. On Monday morning, I called AHS and they said they had not gotten it yet. They said that they would call the contractor, but when they did, they had not opened. I said that I will also pursue them as well. The guy said that he would submit the paperwork on Saturday before the end of the day, and it was not done. It was finally submitted to AHS and I called them back because I kept pushing the issue and speeding it up. AHS called to let me know what it will cost because this wasn’t covered and if I accept. I told them I had no choice and I needed the AC.
The contractor called me and said that they would be out on a certain day, and that AHS had approved it. So, the technician came and put in the new compressor. He explained with his crew when I asked why they were doing things. After they put the new compressor in, he checked downstairs and the air was cold. The contractors were okay and maybe I kinda got on their nerves because I kept asking questions. I was standing there to make sure that the job was done. Even though I didn’t know what I was looking at, I pretended like I did. They did a good job and they put up with me asking questions.
After they came and everything was done, the next day, the AC ran good. Then, when I came home that night, the AC wasn’t cold anymore, so I had to call them the next morning. He said it would take a day and he asked me to send a picture of what light was on. So, I sent it to the secretary and he called the tech, who haven’t left yet, so he would have them swing by my house. I was on my way to work but would have my son wake up and be there waiting. My son said that when the guy walked through the door, he asked for a cup of water so, he gave it to him. The guy asked where the AC was located and went upstairs. When I got home and checked it, the light was off and the AC was running good. After that, I have not had any problems at all.
American Home Shield did what they were supposed to do and even though it took a little long, I understood that procedures, paperwork and approvals had to be done. At another point, I was saying that they just didn’t know how hot it was and they needed to experience it. Everything was done according to policy and procedure. My experience was one that I would not like to go through again with the compressor being out and that it gives no warning signs but as far as AHS and the contractor, everything was done excellently and expediently as they could do it.

We bought the house in July and when we moved in, we realized that there was water leaking by the water heater. It was replaced, but then the other parts sent rusty water and clogged the pipe which caused it to leak under the house. It made it to where water wouldn’t come through our shower in one bathroom, so my husband called American Home Shield to request for service and a very nice and professional tech came. I was impressed with the services, the way they worked. The tech made us aware of everything he was doing and got things done. He replaced the pipe under the house and everything is good again. My kids can shower in their own bathroom again, which is great. Our Realtor purchased the one-year warranty for us and we’re definitely going to renew since we are happy with what AHS provides.
Good afternoon Amy,
I am happy to hear that you are impressed with our services so much that you want to renew! We appreciate your loyalty to AHS.

My wife and I took over American Home Shield from my mother-in-law two years ago, and they had it for a couple of years. If I call in a claim, it’s good as I like it when I get to talk to somebody. REEP’S Air & Refrigeration recently came out and their contractor was a very professional guy. He had a guy he was training with him and they were both very nice. It all went really well. I just wish they would’ve replaced my air conditioner. It has been fixed two or three times and I don't know how many times AHS is gonna have it fixed instead of replacing it. It’s battered and 20 years old. But I know they go by how they make their money and they keep the cost down, so if they can fix it, that’s what they’re gonna do.
Good afternoon Ronald,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

For my most recent claim with American Home Shield, Smokey’s Garage Door came out and they were awesome. They were able to resolve the issue. However, I replaced that garage door two months ago and I had to pay again to fix it two months in. It seems like there should be a warranty on the product itself. It was a brand-new unit and they had to replace the whole motherboard in the thing, but I still had to pay 100 bucks. That should be covered. Other than that, American Home Shield's website is cool. I did the claim online and it was easy.

This is my first year with American Home Shield and I did the claim online. After my first time when my heat was out during the winter, I have not messed messed with a phone call because I was on the phone for two hours multiple times. There was an issue with my account not being paid for when I bought the house and I called multiple times to verify that I had coverage, and the person who was the first line of phone call said that I had coverage. I did that three times and when I actually had an issue and called somebody out, they fixed the $70 issue where it was just a fuse. But I called them out a couple weeks later because the heat pump had stopped working and since it was a $1200 fix, American Home Shield said that they were not gonna cover it because I hadn't had coverage because they hadn't received payment. They said I was gonna have to pay this repair out of pocket, and I still had to send $600 for the AHS policy.
So, it’s been kind of a nightmare when it first started up because I’m a first time home buyer, and then, I was having all these issues with a brand-new unit that was less than two years old. Then, I was having the issue with the AC and my tenants had to stay out of the house for a week because it was 90 degrees inside the house. I understand that Tier 1 doesn't make that much money because they have a contract with AHS and they have to answer the call, so they pushed me to the last one in line. I get that side of it, but when I have to call them out six times in a row, I would expect to be pushed to the front of the line. Each time, they said it was fixed and it wasn’t. It would just be fixed for a couple of days.
I had pictures of my AC being set to 70, and it was 80 inside the house, and it was 75 outside the house. I also have pictures of the AC unit being completely iced over. They came out a couple times and the AC was working for that day. They said they couldn’t fix it. Everything on their side said it was working. When they came out, they would add pressure to it and say it was good. They would leave and it would work for a week and then, I would have to call them back out again. But this most recent time, it hasn’t stopped working the last month and a half. So, it seems like they fixed it. But if the contractor fixed it right the first time, I wouldn’t have intermittent AC unit issues in the hottest months of summer. It was kinda frustrating, especially since I had to take time off work just to sit while they were working on it.
I would tell my friends not to waste their time with a phone call and trying to talk to anybody higher up because they’ll be put on hold for an hour. I’m probably gonna renew with AHS. I enjoy the online experience, and I understand the process now. I am pleased with the online service but if you don't know better, you can feel like you just wasted your money when you're on the phone for two hours. Besides that, it’s great. Maybe if AHS has indications like flags that go up after two strikes on a claim, then they can make a personal phone call that would make people feel like they are valued and that their home warranty company is behind them.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim for my air conditioner compressor that wasn't kicking on and the rep that I spoke with was very good. The contractor that came out was very professional. He diagnosed the problem quickly and fixed the problem. When the contractor opened up the AC, the contactor was full of ants. Supposedly, you get voltage that comes from inside the thermostat and it sends a signal out the contactor and it turns on the big power to turn everything on. Apparently, the contactor wasn't allowing the power to click over. The ants were stopping it. So, AHS ended up having to replace the contactor. I haven't had any further issues since then. Everything was great.

The air conditioner stopped working and I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield. They gave me a time frame for the contractor to come out which was between 11:00 to 3:00 and it was close to 2:00 when they got there. The capacitor had gone out and I went out and watched them take the old one off, put a new one on and the system kicked in. The person who comes out for that particular company has been out both for the heating and air conditioning and they’re doing very well. The experience with AHS was great.

We had a problem with our icemaker in our fridge. We filed a claim with American Home Shield through their website. The contractor was great, punctual, took a look at our stuff, and was really fast and easy to work with. He said that he needed to order a new icemaker because it would produce one batch of ice and then stop. We had to keep resetting it. I'm not sure that it could be fixed, so he had to order a new one. We haven't gotten a new one yet. He has only been out to diagnose the problem because he had to reorder some parts. We've also had a couple of things that we've had to use our warranty for. It's been really easy, and it gets taken care of in a timely manner. I had a problem with the dryer and I submitted a claim with AHS. The tech they sent out was really nice and professional but he didn't explain much on what was the problem. All he put on our paperwork was that the dryer was broken and it needed to be fixed. But he had to order a couple of parts and he told us that verbally, yet he didn't put that on the paperwork. Then the office called and let us know that the parts were ordered, that they should be in by this date, and he would be back out on this date. When he was here, he took my whole dryer completely apart and he didn’t know what was wrong with it. We told him that when we would turn the heat on, the heat would just go completely away within 10 minutes. He said that it was something that had to do with the timing then he came back and said that it was the heating element, and he replaced two of the heating elements. Other than that, he fixed the dryer and since the repair, it works wonders.

We had a couple of rentals and we called AHS recently. I had one that was in Gridley, California, and that was a really good plumbing call. And then, we had another one in Paradise, California, and we had asked for a leak detector. They sent a plumber out, he walked around looking at faucets, and we already could tell there was no leak in the faucet. And then, at the end of the call, he said, "Well, what you need is somebody who does leak detection." We thought that was what he was. We were not happy with that one. That home is in Paradise, California where almost the entire town burned down. Our house was standing but it was using a lot of water even before the fire. We had to get a private water tank up there and the water was very expensive at 10 cents a gallon. So, we wanna definitely get that leak detection done then. But we figured we'd have to wait 'til we got the city water back to really just do that.
I've been using AHS on our properties for five years now. So far, our experience with them has been fine. I just wish to get a quicker response when I call. I know that everybody likes to use the internet, and so that's what we have gone to doing our claims. With the claims on the internet, they're able to tell me who they're sending out within half an hour. I also have property management on a couple of our property and it would be nice to be able to have them via the call instead of having to go through the internet.

The wiring on our AC had overheated and needed to be replaced. The air conditioning man came out on Thursday morning, and the electrical people came out late on that same day. But they said they couldn't make the repairs 'cause they needed confirmation from American home Shield to okay the repairs. But the AHS agent was looking for a second opinion on it. If I didn't get the upgraded wiring and was replaced with similar wires, it could have caused a fire hazard. The electrician told me that the type of wiring that I needed was expensive and that AHS were probably looking for something that was compatible or cheaper.
That Monday, I was back on the phone with Home Shield. I warned the agent that if something were to happen, it would come back to them because they looked for a cheaper way out. Then they said that they would look into it. AHS stepped up to the plate and they immediately called the electrician and told him to put in the proper wiring. Then the electrician called me and he said that they acquired the proper wiring and they would be here that same day and they acquired the proper wiring. They came and they installed it but once they finished, the unit wouldn't start. So they called in. They said that we might have a problem with the air conditioning unit and the diagnosis was that there was juice coming through.
The next day, which was on a Tuesday, the air conditioner man came in. He went upstairs and looked at the unit and he diagnosed that two of the wires needed to be reversed. He said that he didn't do electrical work and we would need to get those electricians back here to switch them. He also sent me a picture and I sent it to the electrical people and they were here in about 20 minutes. It was quick. They got the guy up there and he switched those wires, and the AC unit came back on. They were very good about answering the call when needed. I'm totally satisfied. I've been happy with American Home Shield and I have recommended them a few times to other people.

I requested a service ticket on a Thursday for an A/C repair in AZ in the summer. A tech came out the next day (happy with this!) however, part needed to be ordered. Was told it would be 3-4 days. When I called American Home Shield on Tuesday to follow up because I could not reach my tech (no answer, voice mail not set up) I was told the service company had 24-48 business hours to upload their diagnosis and service plan. This had not happened. I was asked to wait another 24 hours and give AHS the opportunity to reach out to the technician.
I called back 24 hours later and was told to give them more time as they have not heard from the tech either. I have no update as to if the part has even been ordered nor does AHS. I asked to speak with a supervisor to see if we could go another route as again I'm in Arizona in the summer with NO AIR. I have been on hold for 1:10 minutes with no resolution. This is unacceptable. Very poor service. I also notice only positive reviews are on the website.
Stephanie,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I will follow up with you in an effort to assist you with your unresolved matters regarding this request. Thanks for your patience.

I told them, "You guys should of replaced the fan not do a temporary fixed." I asked I wanted to talk to a manager and they didn't let me. We are paying $100 per visit and monthly fee. I'm not going to check the fan in the winter if it's not working especially when we don't need a fan in the winter! We believed the contractor that should work without any issues when I asked him questions what he was doing. The problem is either the contractor are being cheap or they hiring the cheap contractors.
Now they are saying that we have to spend another $100 to come out. I can go out get myself new ceiling fan for that price and be guaranteed that it will work! I rather get a new one than go through these guys to fix the fan. Today we are requesting the contractor to come out for the fridge that we got repaired in Aug. 2019. This is within 90 days. Looks like the first time the fix wasn't done properly. The fridge is not cooling. Will be asking tech questions on why wasn't done properly and will record him this time too. Hopefully they aren't using cheap parts because doesn't make sense when the original Whirlpool part be was working fine.

While my initial experience with American Home Shield was not ideal given the contractor didn’t show up at his scheduled time or ever call us back, I was pleased with the company’s swift follow-up and expressed desire to remedy the situation. In the end, American Home Shield helped cover some of the costs of our repairs which we certainly appreciated, even though we sourced the repairman ourselves. I’m glad American Home Shield stood by their commitment to us, even when their contractor fell short.

I feel I've wasted my $$ on this warranty program. We have a water heater that's gone out and it took over a week to schedule an appointment. I took a flight back from SF early so that I could arrive in time for an appointment with the American Home Shield coordinated contractor. The contractor never showed up! He never called nor did American Home Shield to let me know. Even worse, I called American Home Shield to set up another appointment and they told me they needed to find a new contractor and would call me back within an hour. They did not call back. They also said that once they found a new contractor, it would be starting from scratch again and could take another 7-14 days without our water heater working before we would even be seen for a first visit.
I called a local plumber on my own who responded immediately and came the same day. How is it that I as a consumer could find someone the same day and American Home Shield couldn't find someone for weeks, even though this is their 'specialty'? Seems to me the company could be intentionally delaying service to the point customers have no choice but to resolve their issue themselves, thereby avoiding any need to pay anything. I would strongly recommend against using American Home Shield. Save your money and energy.
Good Morning Brint,

After several communication on here. They agree to allow me get repair by with someone but they only going to pay $313, I have to pay the difference. They already know that my Kenmore Elite French doors cost over $3000.00. This company nothing but Scam.
Original Review: I purchase home warranty with this company and paid $55 per month. My Refrigerator not working in August 15, 2019 and until today is Sept. 18 and my refrigerator still not fix. They send a technician to my home and this guy not even look to see what wrong. All he did was tell me that he needs to order the part and left. I wait for a week and call the number he left. The lady answer the phone tell me just wait for someone call me. Three days later I receive phone call from AHS offer me cash of $300 (my Kenmore Elite refrigerator cost over $3,500). I refuse cash option and want to get it fix. After that conversation no one call me back or let me know what will happen to my refrigerator.

I had (paid) a monthly premium to AHS for three straight years. Two years in I had a small leak and they responded without incident. Almost three years in my AC went out on, of course, a Saturday. I called AHS and was put on hold. This was July in Phoenix and happened to be the hottest day of year so far...110. After long holds and some disconnects, I was told they dispatched the call to a local AC company. After a couple hours of not hearing from them, I called AHS back and asked what was going on. They gave me the AC company’s info and I called them. Turned out they didn’t work weekends and couldn’t send anybody out. Really, nothing in the contract about no service on weekends. I called AHS back, and to make a long story a little shorter, after many more calls that night trying to get someone out, we finally had to go to a hotel and incur more costs. I was so frustrated I could burst!
On Monday morning I called them again and they were finally able to get someone out that cost me $700 for Freon because AHS only pays $10/lb and it cost $80/lb. The next day the AC wouldn’t cool so I called them back. After many more calls with AHS and not getting any help, I broke down and just bought a new unit. Fast forward two months later, I get an email from them saying they were fulfilling my service call! Seriously?? I called tonight to cancel. I was put on hold for 15 minutes until I was disconnected. I called back. Ultimately I was told that I have to pay them to cancel their over-priced, ridiculous service that I never received. What a dishonest company! My recommendation would be to not use this service and throw your money away like I did.
Tracy,
I am sorry that we were not able to offer a resolution that you were pleased with while the contract was active. It is AHS' practice to schedule appointment during normal business hours, which excludes the weekend. We hope this experience does not deter you from considering AHS in the future for your home warranty needs.

Though it took months of back and forth with AHS' customer service, my issue was finally addressed after I voiced my distress on ConsumerAffairs. I haven't yet received my check for my replacement washing machine but I've been assured it's in the mail. Pending that, this matter is now resolved.
Original Review: Sept. 18, 2019
I have never in my life had to work so hard to try and get service for something that I'm already paying for. For both my fridge (which took a year to resolve) and now my washing machine (going on two months with no resolution), I have been bounced from contractor to contractor with zero results. Every vendor I'm referred to takes weeks to schedule an appointment, weeks to order parts and then they're confused as to why the problem isn't fixed afterwards. Then when I check reviews for these contractors, they all have less than two star ratings. When I call AHS to complain, they tell me to wait and be patient. I've now spent two months doing my family's laundry in a laundromat because I've been waiting patiently. This is atrocious and AHS should be ashamed of themselves. Where is my monthly fee going?!

The tech from Myers Comfort Specialists came out and he replaced something on the outside where my AC unit was at. He was very professional and he did the job very quick. It was overall a good experience.

The air conditioner went out and I called American Home Shield and within a day or two, somebody showed up to look at the unit to see if it was repairable or fixable. They said that the unit needed to be replaced because of the age and the failure that had happened with it, and quoted me a price on a new one. And that specific week, they installed the new one, and everything was working good. The contractor was great. My cousin have had them on her house and she was real satisfied with them and what they've done over the last year or two. American Home Shield was incredible. I was very surprised and very excited about the way that it went. I was real happy with the way that it went. My cousin sort of talked me into getting into American Home Shield. And fortunate enough, I did it when I did it because we had a failure on our air conditioner. The same man came out and did the work and it was amazing. The contractor was exceptional.

I recently called American Home Shield for a plumbing issue and they sent Mr. Rooter. They resolved the issue and we had a good interaction with them. The only problem I encountered was the fact that AHS doesn't cover water softeners. Ours came with the house, which we recently purchased, and I didn't know how to work it. I wanted somebody to come by, take a look at it and point me to the right direction. Mr. Rooter was nice enough on a second call after I called and brought that to their attention. They came out and they told me everything was good to go. I still don't know how to work it but, it's working and that's all that I need.

I’ve had issues with every single solitary call I’ve done to American Home Shield in the last six months. The contractors that they send out are not professional. They don’t show up and they take forever to call in whatever’s wrong. And it seems like American Home Shield is not covering like they used to. I've been with them for 15 or more years and it costs me money every time someone shows up, where it used to be where everything was covered. Now, it’s like nothing is covered. I had a water heater replaced and I had to pay $515 out-of-pocket. Also, I had a garbage disposal replaced and they came up with something that cost me $150 out-of-pocket.
I had a plumbing issue and they denied it. It took three different companies to come out to try and diagnose what the issue was. When they finally decided what it was, AHS told me it was covered. I wanted a second opinion, so they sent someone out. The second opinion was totally different than the first and the day that company scheduled to come out and fix it, they sent another guy who wasn’t even the guy who was supposed to fix it. He spent five minutes there and he came up with a completely different diagnosis on what was wrong, which was incorrect. AHS called me back and said the claim was denied after they had already approved it being fixed. I ended up having to get my own plumber to do the work and paid $300 or $400 and it was something that would have been covered. It was really frustrating.
Also, I’ve got all sorts of issues. I have a tenant right now that hasn’t had a washing machine in two weeks. We’re still waiting on parts. I had a tenant without an oven for a month because it took AHS so long to get someone out there and to diagnose. One time, a tenant took off work because a contractor was coming out but she said no one showed up. American Home Shield is doing horrible. I just had two warranties come up that I didn’t renew and as soon as the other ones come up, I’m not renewing them. I'm not recommending them anymore.
I hate to hear that the warranty is not providing satisfactory service. I've sent you an email as I would like to assist with any unresolved warranty concerns. My name is Stacy & I look forward to speaking with you.

When I bought the house, American Home Shield was transferred over. I submitted a claim online and the process was a little confusing. There seemed to be a lack of consistency. When I put in for the appliance guy, the young lady asked me for my credit card number before the service, which was odd, but I gave it to her. So, I thought that took care of itself but I kept getting an email saying I owed $75. I took it upon myself to think that they would go ahead and bill me using the same credit card but they didn't. I knew how much I owed but I didn't know for which service. It could be a little clearer in that respect. I got a hold of everybody and I sent emails asking them to call me if needed. I went online and paid it with my credit card and nobody said that they messed up. So, all is well.
It took three days for the contractor to come out and when they were here, they installed some wiring inside the box incorrectly. The dryer was fine and it caused the dryer not to work. I had the appliance guy come and check it out, and it was working fine. So, whatever it was, it was electrical. The guy put in new wires in the breaker box and it has been fixed. The washer is working, and the outlet is working fine, so, it’s good.
I like the young man who came out for service. He took his time and explained everything. We both smelled something in the air and he helped me figure that out. It wasn't his job, but we just wanted to make sure that what we were smelling wasn't electrical. He was very professional and he did what he was supposed to do. He was good and I would definitely ask for him again. I'm saving up my little dollars for my renewal with AHS next year.

I've been with American Home Shield for many years and they've been good. The online claim submission has been pretty fluid. I’ve submitted claims over the phone to American Home Shield but I prefer doing it online. It’s a little easier when I do it from work. The waterline on the fridge had a tear in it and it was leaking water, so we would get water coming through the filter and the ice maker wouldn't work. When the contractor came out, it went perfectly. He just took off the part that was pulled out and plugged it back into the adjuster. He was very professional and took care of it very quickly. He was in and out. Since the repair, the fridge has been good.

I’ve had two small claims with American Home Shield and I've been with them for just about two months. One claim was a simple issue that was resolved quickly. It ended up being more of a fact-finding thing. We had some arc-fault breakers that tripped a little bit easier than the old-school circuit breakers. I learned a little bit about that and how to make it not happen and that was also great.
The other claim was for when we had a backed-up basement floor drain. I did the claim via the online web fill form and that was pretty easy. It kinda just guides you right through it. Within 24 hours, I would hear from a contractor to arrange a time. For this claim, Alto Sewer Services was the contractor and they were out the same day. My interaction with them was really pleasant.
The younger gentleman who came was a really nice guy and was really professional. He knew exactly what he was doing. He had the tools ready and he didn't waste any time. He also didn't leave a mess. He cleaned up a little bit from what was on the ground so that was a pretty good experience. The backup was fixed and they cleared it up. I've had no issues since then. I drained a basement dehumidifier into it. It wasn’t getting a lot of water to begin with but that was not gonna back anything up unless there was a backup. There had been none.

The American Home Shield website is pretty basic, but there's no way to explain situations or put multiple issues when you make an order online. For example, if I have an air conditioning claim and I have a problem with two separate air conditioners, I have to claim only one of them, and then call them and provider further information. We usually wait until there are multiple problems on a work order, and as it works with American Home Shield, whenever we have to make a claim online, we have to just submit one claim and then call them to add to the claim before the service provider comes.
The contractors' service is fine and we’ve not had many problems with it. Once we get to know a particular service provider, they're pretty good to us. One thing we don't like is getting reassigned to someone else when the company we work with is still an option. We don't have a whole lot of control over that, though. It would be nice if we could continue to work with the same vendor. Sometimes these vendors know our house better than we do. Also, we wish American Home Shield could cover different things without causing too much more. Overall, for what AHS is, it’s pretty good.

And I said, "Well, I want more explanation," and she wouldn't. And I said, "Can I talk to your manager?" and she said, "Absolutely not," and then she hung up on me. And then another experience was pretty good. That fellow was right on top of it, helped me and gave me the number, and they followed up via email to make sure that the company called me to do the service.
And so far, all the contractors are great. We had a water leak from outside. We filed our claim with AHS and the repair was perfect. Also I got AHS when my AC broke. We didn't have any Freon so the contractor had to load up the Freon. Thank goodness because it was like 90 somewhat degree weather. The only thing I do have a problem with was when they had to replace our pool pump. They gave us like an off-market new one, to where even all my pool people don't even know. So it's like I would really like them to be up with the times and give us a pretty good, most current pool pump. But overall, I would recommend AHS to a friend.

The technician came out and said that our drain was clogged up. And then he used CO2 cartridge to blow it out, and it was okay. But about three days later, we came into the house, and water was pouring down into the living room from the ceiling. So, we had to turn the air conditioning unit in the attic above our living room. We had a hurricane in the area and thank goodness, we didn’t leave before we found this, and that water would’ve come out for several days. And then all the repair guys were off for a week. So, at the end of that week, the repair guy came out again and he said he didn’t know what it was. It looked like it was still stopped up, and that he got it straightened out.
My wife and I weren’t satisfied with that. We were afraid if we didn’t know what it was, it’s likely to happen again. So, we went back and forth with American Home Shield and finally, they agreed to send me a service company that had installed the air conditioning unit in. They came out and spent about three hours. The tech was back and forth with his service manager, taking pictures, talking with him on the phone, checking the wiring, and they got it straightened out. He was a very nice guy. He did what he was trained to do.
We’ve got a water stained ceiling and some of the drywall came off. I talked with American Home Shield and asked who was responsible for it. They said it was the contractor. But the contractor said it was the responsibility of American Home Shield. So, I’m not sure what to do next. I had a painter come out and it’s gonna be between $600 and $800 to fix the ceiling. I thought that there was a problem with the sump pump and I submitted a claim with AHS online. I didn't call them because my problems generally happen at night and I figured that the lines would closed by then, so I just submitted my claim online. And right away, the next day, when I looked, AHS already had things going. So, I was very pleased with that.
They assigned Plumber Dave and Sons to come out and their tech was great. He didn’t treat me like I was a girl and he talked to me like I was a person. He explained everything when I had a question and was very nice. But in the end, the issue was on whatever the previous owners had put in to how to drain the sump. So, that was not covered by the warranty because it wasn't in the home. But they explained it to me very well and now, I’m working on getting the funds in order to pay for the repair. We also had AHS at our previous home on Perry Highway and we had them for a year. Then, when my son and I moved into this new home, we’ve had them since June. I called to schedule the appointment for a plumbing claim when the drain pipe where it connects to the bathroom sink was leaking. The problem is resolved now. The pipe is fine and not leaking. And in this particular case, the contractor was right on time, very courteous and professional. But the contractors are also usually very prompt. They tell us ahead of time what time they will arrive and are usually right there when that time arrives.
Good afternoon Carole,
Thank you for providing us with feedback regarding your most recent American Home Shield experience. It is our goal to provide our customers with a great experience and team of contractors to complete the repairs. We hope you continue to enjoy!

I've been with American Home Shield for over a year. My sister got AHS and she said that they have good pricing. I had wonderful luck with Waterloo Road pump & Supply, but I was a little bit concerned about the heating and air company that American Home Shield called out. There was a noise in my air conditioning and something was happening. The company had been here the day before we were having a party and told me that nothing was wrong. Then Saturday came and our air conditioning went out.
I called AHS and they tried to get ahold of this heating and air company. They didn't answer their phone nor their emails because it was a weekend. The AHS rep kept saying that they couldn't call another company without a diagnosis. But that company already had a diagnosis and it was wrong. That is a bad rule. With heating and air claim and the temperature is up, it needs to be escalated. They need to up their standards for that and the heating and air company they use should and must work on the weekends. It could be detrimental.
I get it when people don't wanna work on a weekend, but we're talking about Oklahoma. Our house got up to 90 degrees and we had a party of 40 people that Saturday night and nobody was comfortable. Everybody was asking who we were using and why they couldn't get anybody on the weekend and I told them that it was American Home Shield. It's bad. But that heating and air company is good. The guy came out on Monday and it took him 15 minutes to fix it. I liked him a lot.
Christy,
Thank you for providing your feedback. We are working to improve our practices and procedures and we thank you for your patience during this time. We hope this does not discourage you from considering us for you future home warranty needs.

I've had American Home Shield for over a year. The first time that I filed for service, they sent out an appliance dealer. The service repair person told me that he would have to order the part through American Home Shield and that the part would take 5 to 7 days. I asked him if I had requested him to come to service it without American Home Shield how long it would take. He said he can have it done today. I am a family man with a large family. I cannot go a week without a washing machine. I only can imagine had it been an air conditioner going out on me in the heat of the summer and having to wait an entire week to get it repaired.
When I called the service department I was transferred to a phone service in the Philippines. After about 30 minutes I requested to speak with a manager. The manager's name was Vee. He told me that I needed to read my policy and that they would have to order the part and it would take five to seven days. I told her I read the policy at which point in time she said and no short terms of basically take it or leave it or cancel my policy. As soon as I got off the phone with Vee. I canceled my policy. The only time I was able to speak with a person from the United States was when I was solicited into getting a contract and when I canceled my contract. Otherwise they fought me in the Philippines. When I requested to speak with somebody in the United States they told me they were unable to comply with my wishes.
I do not believe that it should be called American Home Shield if you can't even talk to somebody in the Americas be it north or south. If you have no problem waiting for an extended period of time to get your parts fixed then by all means get American Home Shield. But if you want to get your part restored you're better off saving your money.
Good Morning Michael,

My AC stopped working on August 14th and I filed a claim with AHS. HVAC tech on 16th diagnosed the issue that the thermostat signal wire is broken (which is covered by the warranty). However, the tech transfer the work to electric trade. Electrician shows up on 20th and states that this is not HVAC issue and transfers back to HVAC. AHS assigns another HVAC company who shows up on 25th and diagnoses the same thing and tells me they will submit the work to AHS and once approved they will start the work. The HVAC company instead transfers the work to an electrician again. I call AHS and tell them that an electrician has already been there before and he already said it is a HVAC issue. AHS now tells me they will send another technician after two weeks of no AC in August.
I call the last HVAC company and asked why they transfer the job even after the tech told me they can do the job. HVAC company tells me that AHS didn't approve the job. At this point, I realized AHS is just finding excuses not to get the job done while I am out of AC for 2 weeks. I finally tell AHS that I will get my own HVAC person to repair the wiring but AHS refuses to pay an outsider vendor. I am realtor and have been using AHS for a while and been recommending AHS to my clients. Not only I am stopping recommending them, I am cancelling my policy as well.
Julius,

I have been with American Home Shield for over 20 years and in general, have been satisfied. I am not satisfied today. I think that I have been fooled by American Home Shield. I pay American Home Shield $55 just for the privilege of being a member. That buys me nothing. Each time a repairman comes out for a repair, it's an automatic $125. Each time I make a claim for a repair, I am asked to check what needs the repair and asked the symptoms.
Yesterday, when my air conditioning started not cooling correctly, I made a claim for an air conditioning repair. There were no questions to answer. If there had been, there would have probably been a prompt that coolant was needed and hopefully at that time, I would have been advised that coolant is not covered by American Home Shield. I'm sure that little tidbit is somewhere in my contract, but it would have been so easy to give that information at the time. 2 pounds of coolant ended up taking 5 minutes of the repairman's time and a cost of $275 to me. I feel like I was ripped off by a company I have trusted for a long time. Shame on you American Home Shield. Just a brief message would have been nice.
Good morning Nan,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

I left messages and never heard from them. The second vendor (Whirpool) said it would take 3 weeks for their next appt. The third vendor (High Tech Appliance Kill Devil Hills, NC) did not bother to show up. When I called AHS., I asked over and over again to speak to a supervisor and my request was dismissed. American Home Shield was not very helpful or concerned about my situation. This company is very good at transferring phone calls and placing customers on hold. I had an issue with the shower valve not working in the main bathroom. Within a day of starting a claim a plumber reached out to me about scheduling and explained the repair steps. He came out and reviewed what needed to be done and explained the steps. One of the steps he needed to take to access the plumbing was unfortunately to cut into the drywall behind the shower. I understood why this was necessary and and he went on to say that AHS would have someone come out to repair the wall afterwards. I reached out to AHS about the wall and after a few days they contacted me back to say they had no one in my area that could do drywall. As a result they offered me a cash option to find a local contractor myself to do it. So far all of the estimates for the repairs have been well above what I was offered to get it done. Not real happy about that.

I was told about American Home Shield home warranty! I called them to sign up last month and after a week I called the home warranty company back regarding my pool/pool equipment not working. I specifically told them my pool heater wasn't working and also my pool pump wasn't working. They sent a guy out to come check only the heater and did not check the pool pump. I called them back and told them what was going on and they told me I have to pay $75 twice for them to send someone out again. They made a mistake and want me to pay for it.
Also I checked my account and saw they charged my account twice for my monthly payment. I called them again and they said it was a mistake and they were going to refund my money back. Until today I still have not gotten my money back. This home warranty company (American Home Shield) makes a lot of mistakes!!! In just five days they've made mistakes and want me to pay for the mistake! This is crazy... After I get my money back I will cancel my contract! For any one who is thinking of using this company, please don't do it! They are the worst!!!
Hi Karo,

My HVAC unit was leaking so I contacted AHS. It took 2 days to get a technician to come out, and he arrived at 5p when my window was 12p-4p. The technician discovered there was a modification during installation and immediately told me that he didn't think the home warranty company would cover it. The modification was for the drain line - There wasn't room in the front due to the cabinet housing so they drilled a hole in the bottom and installed a copper pipe elbow that connected to the drain line. The technician didn't want to touch anything, and I was charged a $100 deductible for this visit. The technician submitted a diagnosis (still unknown to me) and estimated the repair at $350. Then began 2-3 days of numerous calls to AHS, fighting for the claim to be honored.
During this time, I was given the runaround, put on hold, disconnected, etc. I then received a call FROM AHS REP and he told me to call back on Monday (we spoke on Saturday) when my claim would be officially denied, and then submit an invoice from a vendor of my choice for "cash back" (though it wouldn't be for the full amount of the estimate). I contacted a recommended vendor who came out on Sunday and fixed the drain line that was blocked with rust and dirt. He made sure both ends of the line were cleared and recommended I get it serviced once a year. He also mentioned that he sees these kinds of modifications all the time; it's not unusual at all. TOTAL COST $120.
I then contacted AHS to submit my invoice for "cash back" (how would I even know that term unless someone at AHS told me?). However, no one could find any record of that and, therefore, I was denied even that option. The modification to the HVAC unit was done in 2013 and I bought the house in late 2017, which PASSED INSPECTION. How would I know there was a modification? Perhaps all of my appliances were not installed properly? This did not happen under my watch. I did not install anything, nor did I have anything modified. The fact that AHS would not honor the claim and, more importantly, the offer made to "cash out" toward the service I had done. What a racket.
Susan,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. There was a private message sent to you regarding your status. Thanks for your time.

The absolute worst company I have ever had to deal with in my entire life. My duct work was shot, and I put in a service call. I was amazed at the prompt response and had an appointment set up within 48 hours of the initial call. This was about the only positive. The company they sent out, came and told us "it is normal for duct work to be saturated. Your problem is a plumbing leak." My husband and I knew better so we called another company to come out for a second opinion. Our own second opinion wasn't under the house for more than 5 minutes and came out saying we have a major problem and need to have our duct work replaced immediately. I called AHS with my concern, they said that they would have to wait for the plumbing to be checked as that was the issue addressed in the first report. Understandable. This is where the scam comes to light.
The plumbing guy came to our house, crawled under the house checked all of our plumbing and said it was perfect. Our issue was clearly duct work. His words "I'm not even an HVAC professional and I can tell you your duct work shouldn't look like that." He wrote in his report about duct work was so saturated in areas that it was causing floor rot that wasn't even near plumbing.
AHS put in a second opinion for my work order to send out the same company that came to my house the first time. The same company that said my duct work was fine! I called upset and asked for it to be changed as I believed I deserved a second opinion from a different company. The line got disconnected. I promptly called back only to find out that my second opinion had been cancelled all together. In this phone call I was even told I wasn't allowed another second opinion. After nearly an hour of back and forth I was told that they would try to set up another contractor for a second opinion, but he didn't know how long it would take.
I called back that evening to find out that my second opinion had been cancelled AGAIN. I asked why and she told me repeatedly that she didn't know and didn't have access to that information. I repeatedly asked to speak to someone above her, but got threatened to have my work order cancelled completely. After arguing back and forth she told me that she would request a second opinion again. Again was told since I refused to use the first HVAC company that came to my house I would have to wait on dispatch to find another contractor, and that she didn't know how long that would take.
I checked my email this morning to find out that the first company had yet again been assigned to my service request. I promptly cancelled and have written this company off. I am amazed at the rudeness of customer service, and the run around this company has given me. In my opinion I do not want anyone associated with this company anywhere near my house anyways. This company is a complete scam and I will be reporting to the BBB.

Fast forward to June 2019 outside A/C unit not cooling.. 1st HVAC company came out to look said will need replaced due to holes in coils, AHS said they will need a second opinion before they can make a decision. Unfortunately, they only have 3 providers to choose from in my area & 1 fella is 2 hrs away. I keep telling them to remove him from my service area as he will not travel. Had to pay the 2nd HVAC provide out of pocket because they told me they Will Not take appts. calls from AHS. So anyone looking for a 2nd opinion the Altoona area... You're outta luck!!
2nd provide confirmed what the 1st & said it will need replaced, sent all the necessary forms that were provided from 2nd opinion service call and MYSTERIOUSLY my original June service call was removed from my dashboard like it wasn't even there. Mind you I'm due to renew my contract in 9 days and am convinced they are waiting for my contract to run out so they can tell me I'm no longer a member. I am beyond disappointed with their service, all summer long with no A/C. 7 phone calls and No One Will Get Back To Me!!!! Every time I call it's like a broken record. My washer claim with American Home Shield was fine, and the contractor who did it was really good. However, my dishwasher claim was a nightmare. I liked the new thing with the computer, but it doesn't seem to work. With the technology in there, and if they had all the information and could see it, why wasn't the claim showing up on my end? So I still had to call the call center. I got someone who spoke very bad English -- I'm hearing-impaired and it was hard to have a conversation with them. The contractor never called in 24 hours, so I had to call them.
The Dan Allan guy who did my dishwasher should not be an approved contractor. In the first time, he did not have tools, so my husband had to give him tools. He also did not have any official vehicle. He just popped up the trunk of an old Mercury. That was Memorial Day, and I didn't get it done until the third week in July. So he left and came back with a part. But, he ordered the wrong part, left the part on my front porch, then he needed to return. And he called me asking if he left some parts here. He then got the right part allegedly, came back, and left a paint tray underneath the dishwasher. My college kid called me freaking out that he left the water on and it was flooding all over the kitchen. We called him back to turn it off again.
He came a third time with the right part, but it still did not work. So that was when they deemed it non-repairable and I got a new one. I was like, "Do not send that man to come in and install." Also, it took me six calls to get to speak to a supervisor and it took that long for them to refund me $50. If I wasn't disabled and don't have the ability to worry about fixing things and taking care of things, I wouldn't have this concern. But customer service is terrible, the communication's horrible. The two people that installed it were, on the other hand, phenomenal.
Good afternoon Annmarie,

The plumber was great and everything was taken care of that same day. I'd recommend AHS. Other than that, I had an air conditioner callback and they wanted me to move part of a wall to take out the evaporator coil to clean it and put it back in. But I haven’t done that and I’m probably gonna get another air conditioner person to come out to see if that really needs to be done before I do all this framework. So that’s still pending.

The bathroom sinks were not draining, and I called it in and spoke with a person. The plumber who came out was perfect. He texted his location when he was on his way so that we could see how far away he was, because I had someone going to the house to meet him. My son had a dead battery, and he was kind enough to jump my son's car when he was finished. It took him about five minutes, but he didn't have to do that. He told my son exactly what to do in case the problem happened again so that he wouldn't have to have another service call because it was a minor repair. I can't say enough nice things about him. I've had other claims though, one where I wasn't necessarily fond of American Home Shield's choice, but they took care of it. I wasn't happy about the choice of the person they had coming out to do the service, so they changed it. It did delay the service for another week, but it wasn't a life or death thing so it was fine.

The previous homeowner didn't get in the attic and the inspector missed it. Also, the person that came in to service the AC before I closed didn't do anything. My refrigerator went out, and I called AHS. The lady at the office was absolutely amazing, on top of it, calling, following up and checking. The vendor came out the first time, diagnosed it, ordered the part and then a different guy came back and installed that. It did break down again, so it wasn't that part. In any event, the lady in the office had a backup. It's almost like they just knew. "Hey, if it's not this part, it's gonna be this one." And it was a one, two, three.
Granted, it took a little while because they had to order parts. But the professionalism and how on top of it the technician and the lady were was mind-blowing. I called and the lady knew my name right away. "Hi, Tia. How are you?" And it's little things like that. "Yeah. We already backordered that just in case something did happen." So, very informative. Great kudos for the vendor.
The customer service aspect of the home warranty would have been completely lost had it not gotten such a great vendor that really kept me informed and just was there for me. Luckily, I did luck out that I never got a call, no follow-up, just not explaining to me what the process will be or the procedure, especially considering it was my first time having a repair needed. I just felt like, "Okay, I called. So what happens next?" I had very little communication with the warranty side itself.
I called in twice, the first initial part of the claim, and then when I had to call back to follow up, was it approved or whatnot. It would've been better if the warranty side was the one holding my hand through it, walking me through. And there was a such language barrier on the two times that I called. The second time I called, I wanted to know, "Hey, am I covered?" Which really, that could be the warranty calling me, saying "Hey, by the way, we are covering this," or, "We're not covering this." But I had to make that initial call, and when I did, I couldn't understand.
I'm sure calls are recorded and maybe that's something that they can learn or train. But when the gentleman felt confident with what he was saying, he was talking fast. But because he had such an accent, there was a language barrier. And I felt like I had to say, "I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" And some of the things that he would say, it was almost like he was reading from a script. It was like the empathy stage is, "I'm sorry you feel this way." But you don't say stuff like that. You think that, use it in your tone, but you don't say it. Nevertheless, I love my warranty company. I've been with AHS for about a year. But my husband had had other properties with this home warranty coverage as well, that's why we stuck with them on this property.

I like the services of AHS and when the motor of the swimming pool went bad, I called American Home Shield to file a claim. The contractor, James Blandford Pool Service, came out two days later and it wasn’t the first time he has been out to my house. I explained the details of what happened and he asked me to take a picture of the motor. He said the motor was shot, so he had to change them out. He did good work.
When we purchased the house, it came with American Home Shield. We’re coming up on our renewal with them so, I called in to get a quote before the expiration date. It was a foreign company who answered their phone. I was trying to get a quote for a new home warranty, and it came back really high. The premium had gone up way too much. Other than that, everything else has warranties on but they quoted me 700 and change. So, I had to let go at that point and I ended up going with Choice Warranty.

There was an ice maker and a garbage disposal which weren’t working. It was very positive with the contractors who came out. I had an older garbage disposal, and then the contractor put in a newer one that would last longer. I don’t know a lot about plumbing and it was cool what he said, “Hey, this one will last a lot longer because of the material that it was made of." So, that was good. And it has worked fine. We’ve had the house for a while, so it was a newer model. And that one lasted 15 years. This is our second time signing up with American Home Shield. We have let them go for a while then I told my wife I was ready to get it back and we did.
Good afternoon Terrence,

At first, the AC was making a noise and then it stopped working. I put in the claim online to American Home Shield and the contractor was great. They called me some time that same day and scheduled an appointment. They came out and looked at it once and said that they gotta get a part and get it authorized. Then, they went away for a couple of days and came back and fixed it. They replaced a major component and it was very timely for what it was. Since the repair, the AC has been good and my house is cold.
We bought the house and AHS came with it. We’ve been with them for one year and I had the opportunity to renew it, but we didn’t because of the cost. We just didn’t need the warranty. We got lucky with the one thing that broke and that was probably the biggest thing you could have a warranty for, but everything else, I tend to take care of things myself.

My refrigerator went out and I filed a claim with AHS. They sent out a tech from Busen’s Appliance and he was very knowledgeable. He was in and out, and he knew what the problem was. Another guy came out for the dishwasher and while he was there, I was telling him I was having an issue with the stove. He just came, did this magic thing, and everything was fine. So, I have no complaints about either one of those that I had for the dishwasher and the refrigerator. They were on time, they knew their stuff, and they were very courteous.

The previous warranty I had took a month to fix problems. I was not happy with it so I canceled the service. I called my mother and she recommended AHS. And we’re in Wisconsin, so it’s across the country. So far, I've had them for two years now. When we had an issue with our garbage disposal, I filed an online claim. It was convenient because I got to put a claim at night. Since I got school, the contractor had to work with my schedule. He came in, looked at the garbage disposal and said it was jammed. He showed us something and he fixed it right away. It was very, very quick. The whole thing didn’t take two minutes. He didn’t even use a tool and it now works perfectly. My only issue is the $100 claim fee. It is too much. If I hired a private contractor, it will be less than half. So, it shouldn’t be that high.

The capacitor died on our AC. We went through the online form of AHS to file a claim and they were pretty efficient. Within less than 24 hours, we received the call and communication about our claim. They sent out a man who works for Myers Air Conditioning Service in Montgomery. He was very nice and he diagnosed it quickly. It was pretty obvious because it was an external piece of the unit and it was dead. It's an older unit, so it was a piece on it that had really deteriorated. He was very knowledgeable and efficient, too. He was also a good salesman, but not pushy, and just kinda letting us know that the unit was ancient and was gonna be needing to be replaced, at some point in the near future, which we'll consider later. But he gave us a quote on that and left it with us so that we could know how much that would entail. That was informative.
Other than that, we were with AHS the first year that we had the house, then we started it back up in May because we realized that we had some older devices that we needed to protect a little bit better. We went back with AHS because of the name recognition. We already knew them and we did not think to do any research for any other company.
We also made a claim with them before and we had a hilarious experience. We thought that there was water coming out of the ground because it seemed to be seeping out of the tile or concrete, and what it really was was actually peanut oil that had dripped down from an above shelf down the wall, but you couldn’t see it on the wall. It had dripped down down the wall so stealthily and went down behind the baseboard that it looked like the oil was coming up through the grout. Our dogs were licking it and we thought they were licking water. Long story short, we were about to jackhammer up the tile because we thought there was a broken pipe underneath but a plumber came out through the American Home Shield claim and he figured out that it was just peanut oil. Thank God he figured it out about five minutes before he was about to call a sonic guy who was gonna do a sonic thing on our floor to see where the leak was.

American Home Shield has been very accessible and they haven’t given me a lot of rudeness or displeasure. Some of the things that I find disturbing is that there’s a lot of noise in the background when I'm trying to talk to one of their team members. I hear people talking, and then they’re trying to hear me and they miss hearing what I said. That is a little aggravating because some of these people that’s on the phone are foreign, I assume. Their accents are very questionable and they have a hard time understanding what I’m requesting. So, I have to keep repeating myself several times and it is a little frustrating on that end. The second thing is that the person that’s taking the call are interrupted with people around them. But that’s just my interaction. Still, I don’t like it. That isn’t pleasing in a sense because it’s frustrating when you’re already frustrated about other issues.
Today, I would be calling in again for our most recent claim. It's a plumbing issue where Bailey Plumbing came out. The company itself was fine and I had no problem with the guy's professionalism, but it’s just the work that actually got taken care of that is questionable. We finally used our garbage disposal from the original reason of us calling about the water shooting through one of the tunnels of the sink and it was overflowing. My wife used it on Wednesday, and all the water, the way the contractor located and fixed, exploded out. So, I have tons of water on the floor from Wednesday which just dried up yesterday. I need to have the contractor come back out and look at that situation. I’ve been with American Home Shield for about 10 years or more and while I had some displeasure with them, I haven’t had any problems.

I’ve had numerous AC claims with American Home Shield. The air conditioner apparently wasn't installed correctly. It had no drain flush line going inside. So, it had been overflowing, and it ruined part of the floor in my family room. It has been constantly plugging up and overflowing. Every time we’ve called in a claim with American Home Shield, because it’s been overflowing, all they did was come out and flush it out. All they did was fix the current problem. They did not fix the problem. There’s no way to flush it from the inside, or putting bleach down the drain line like normal people do. And it continually keeps stopping up.
We've been with American Home Shield for at least 10 years. They’ve always done us right. It’s kinda ridiculous because the contractors that have been coming to our air conditioners have been coming from Tallahassee, which is two and a half hours away, versus a local vendor. And I don't understand that. What impressed me is I recently had a clothes dryer claim. The vendors came out, they looked at it, called Home Shield, said it needs to be replaced, and they immediately replaced it. But as far as this air conditioner, it’s been going on for months now. They need to tweak the vendors there to where they recommend more than just put a Band-Aid on it and wait for it to break again. They could’ve recommended the drain line be put in properly. The problem keeps reoccurring, so they keep coming back. I take that as the vendor just wanting to keep the business.

We are new to AHS and our AC went out. I filed a service request very easily and within minutes we were notified that a company would call us to schedule an appointment within 24 hours. We ended up calling them to schedule when they didn't call. They were out in a few days and told us we needed a new ac unit. My husband had to call the AHS to get an update on the request and one had not been turned in, so they contacted the repair company for the repair estimate. We then received an email in the next day or 2 with a bill showing what AHS wouldn't cover which was $1640.00. Some of these charges were overpriced and some not completed as my husband was home and was watching them and I will add has worked around HVAC in his former job. We contacted the repair company to ask about these charges and they had quick answers for everything.
I checked reviews, wish I had done that first, and I found the same complaints from multiple other people. We are on a fixed income and had to borrow this money to pay them and feeling a bit defeated at the moment. I do not understand why this company is still being used in my area with all of the similar complaints. They will not be welcome to come back to my home should I decide to keep this warranty.
Good Morning Vickie,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

a. tech fixed water dispenser line. b. Large block of ice – he heated/chipped something. Said the line was clear and would be fine now. 3. 8/14/19 Second visit from Appliance Magic – a. Large block of ice back again. He performed the same thing. Heated, cleared the line. Said it was fine. b. He said he had to order parts – some controller thing and hinge for the door. He would be back.
4. 8/__/19 Third visit from Appliance Magic – a. Installed the controller. Then said it wasn’t the controller. b. Replaced hinge on refrigerator door. Made the issue WORSE. Now the door swings open all the way with a bang. c. I Contacted AHS, who contacted Appliance magic, who said they couldn’t fix it, needed second opinion. 5. AHS said they would submit a request for another opinion. We were assigned All City Appliance. 6. Not contacted by All City, so I called them to schedule.
7. 8/29/19 First visit from All City Appliance. Their tech Mohammad, did the same thing. Came in and unfroze the big block of ice. Did nothing with the door. Said we had the refrigerator/freezer on the wrong settings and TURNED IT DOWN, colder. 8. Called All City the next day and asked they didn’t fix the other problems (door and its freezing too cold). They scheduled another appointment for 9/4/19.
9. 9/4/14 Tech never showed. He called me at 5:30 pm and said he was an hour or so away and would be at my house at 7:30 pm (my contract explicitly states that work should be performed within normal working hours). I asked why he hadn’t done all three items on the list. He said it was my husband’s fault, he didn’t tell him there was anything but the block of ice. I said, but it was on the order that AHS sent you. I explicitly told them all three items. He again said it was my fault, or my husbands fault and started arguing with me. I told him no, he could no come at 7:30 at night. He said, ok, he would be there between 8 and 9 the following morning.
10. 9/5/19 Tech never showed. Called his company and told them we were waiting on the tech, they said they had no information on him coming on 9/5. She told me to hold, called him and came back and said there was no answer. 11. 9/5/19 I called the tech (from caller ID night before). He answered and I asked why he wasn’t there. He said “I don’t actually work for them anymore, but I’m coming to fix the refrigerator anyway.” I asked why he would come to my house if he didn’t work there. He said he started the job so had to finish it. I said, "No, I don’t think so, if you don’t work for them, then your former company is no longer liable if you break something or mess up my house or any other issue, like security" – what if he came in and robbed me? I told him I would call All City back.
12. 9/5/19 Called All City back. Told the receptionist that I had reached him and relayed the above conversation. I asked her about him not working for All City anymore. She said she didn’t know anything about it. I asked her who was in charge? “Ryan is the owner.” I asked, "Can I have his number," which she gave me. 13. 9/5/19 Called Ryan. Relayed all of the above information. Told him the refrigerator still isn’t fixed, and Mohammad said he is coming to my house to fix it even though he doesn’t work for you?? What does that mean?? Ryan said, “I don’t know if he works for me, but he can fix it.” I said, "Wait a minute, if he doesn’t work for you, he is no longer insured by your company. Ryan said, “Yes, it's fine, we are still liable.” At that point, I said, "No – I’ll call AHS." To which Ryan answered, “Wait, I can send another tech.” I said I was calling AHS.
14. SECURITY CONCERNS: I called AHS and reported ALL of the above to them. Including my SECURITY CONCERNS. AHS tried to call All City and get a response. I was told that All City would have to come out and still do the repair. Even with my concerns, AHS insisted that All City would have to return. AHS did get hold of All City and was told that the manager (Ryan) would call me back within an hour. So I finally said, ok. 15. 9/5/19 – no call from Ryan. 16. 9/6/19 – no call from Ryan or anyone at All City. 17. 9/9/19 Called AHS AGAIN – told them I never heard from anyone at All City. What now? They called All City and set the appointment. I asked AHS to ensure that whoever showed up at my home was employed by the company.
18. 9/9/19 All City dispatch called me to set up appt. Set for 9/11/19 between 9-1. I asked her "Who is coming?" She responded, "Ryan." 19. 9/11/19 Second visit from All City – Ryan arrived. He came in, looked at the refrigerator. Did nothing to it. Told my husband he would have to call Kenmore. Gave no indication how long this process would take. 20. 9/12/19 I called All City asking what the status was. Dispatch had no information. She said she would have to contact Ryan when I said he told us he would call Kenmore. I asked her how long the process takes? Day? 2 days? A week? 2 weeks? She said she couldn’t tell me anything, they had no timeline. No one called me back.
21. 9/13/19 My husband called All City Dispatch. He was told basically the same thing as indicated on 9/12. Except he was told that Ryan “had not even called Kenmore yet” When he did, Ryan said “KENMORE WOULD HAVE TO COME TO MY HOUSE”. But they had no timeline, no idea when that would happen.22. OK, DOES ANYBODY ELSE THINK THIS IS RIDICULOUS YET????
23. 9/13/19 –sigh- called AHS again. Relayed the information provided from All City. I asked “Is it normal for them to send someone from another company?” AHS said no. The contractor is responsible for fixing the item. I said, but they’re not. And they won’t tell us when it might be fixed. AHS tried to call All City. Got the dispatcher and was told the same thing they told my husband. She then tried to call Ryan who did not answer his phone.
24. 9/13/19 AHS’s conclusion was that they have to have a response from All City – who will not respond before they can proceed. They cannot assign anyone else OR pay out the refrigerator that cannot be fixed until the people that won’t respond do respond. I said I want this escalated. AHS said they would send the report to Contractor Relations. I asked if I could talk to them. “No”. We will file it. She tried to call All City’s Ryan again. Still no response. She also said if they could not get a response from Ryan, that AHS would need to send out another contractor, a THIRD contractor for a second opinion. 25. 9/13/19 CLEARLY ALL CITY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM IF THEY SAID SOMEONE FROM KENMORE HAD TO COME OUT. And who would pay for Kenmore???
26. 9/13/19 Looked all over AHS’s website for a “contact” email. On your contact page you have a phone number and submit request. The only emails listed are a “security” and “privacy” email. I’m sending to both. 27. CONTINUATION – 28. 9/16/19 Called All City Appliance 3 times. No answer. 29. 9/16/19 Called AHS, spoke with Jeff. Was told that “CONTRACTOR RELATIONS” has received the request. They will contact All City Appliance (WITHIN 24 hours). Then All City Appliance will reach out to me for an “update”?? This makes no sense.
QUESTIONS:1. WHY do I have 3 work orders for the same job?
2. WHY does it say “Completed” when it clearly is not?
3. HOW MANY weeks (we are at 7 now) does it take to do your job?
4. IS AHS GOING TO SPEND THE ENTIRE ALLOTTED AMOUNT for my refrigerator (per the contract) and THEN say, ok we’ll replace it, but, by the way there’s nothing left we can pay out to you? A question I have raised repeatedly. How many times are you going to try and fix it? The “canned” answer is we’re waiting on the report from the contractor.
5. HOW DO WE GET THIS FIXED AND FINALIZED????

I am very disappointed in this company’s practices. I have used them for several years and for the most part the service received has been at a B level. The appliances have been fixed but not without several trips and multiple companies. Most recently over this past year I have had service on my pool pool and problems still occur. Last week was my third service call and when I spoke with the Raya in the service department she assured me I would not have to pay another service fee and my request would be linked to the most recent service order. Well I have been billed my service fee and I reached out to get resolution.
I spoke this time with Jeff and was told there is no record of Raya waiving the fee but did show the service order number I was given. When asked to speak to a supervisor I was told one was not available. Jeff did say this issue would go to the escalation department and I would have to wait 48 hours. I suggested they listen to the recorded call with Raya. I have had three service calls this year and been charged three times on this same piece of equipment trying to have it fixed. Hopefully the billing department will get this straight and honor their original commitment to me.

Updated on 12/27/2019: In mid August my cooktop went bad. I had posted a review in Sept about same cooktop since nothing seemed to be happening. After my review in sept I got a response from AHS on this site saying they have emailed me for a follow up. I haven't found that email in my inbox from them and nobody tried to call me either from AHS. They have my contact info also.
It's Dec 27th, more than 4 months and cooktop still not fixed. During this time, they sent 3 wrong people - one never worked on Miele appliances so didn't know what to do, second said he didn't know why they sent him since he didn't work on induction cooktop. I found 3rd one online and they were part of AHS vendor list so he finally diagnosed it. They replaced 2 parts and realized 3rd part was missed. That was early Oct. Since then AHS keep closing my case with different excuses - part on backorder accidentally closed, oops forgot to order, how about take cashout of $350 since they had already spent money on 2 parts (original cost of cooktop $3200). I told them I am not taking $350 cashout so please fix it. I was told that's fine, parts are ordered.
Three weeks later, I called and was told, since they offered cashout which I refused and told them explicitly to fix it, they again didn't place any order for that part and now ETA is TBD. I was told clearly part is ordered and should be arriving after Christmas. I have been without cooktop thru holidays also... Well on positive side, less cooking for me. I should have just gotten a new cooktop. Every time I ask them to connect me to parts dept and they don't. Every time I am told they will call back with status and nobody calls back. I think as long as you have std appliances and go thru process you are ok with them. If you have high end appliances, I would definitely not recommend them.
Original Review: I changed my warranty company to AHS 2.5 months ago. My first service request filed on Aug 19th for a cooktop has had no work done on it. First call was quick, they sent Beyer Appliance guy who said he didn't know how to open my Miele cooktop, saying it has screws and since it's in the counter no idea how to access. I called Miele tech support and was told it's a drop in cooktop, no screws.
Since then I have called AHS every couple of days to send someone in, they keep telling me someone will call within 48hrs. It's been 3 weeks now. Also looks like now when I call from my home number, they put me on hold for 30 mins and then I disconnect. When I call from a different number, someone picks up right away as if they have blocked off my number. I am amazed at the lack of customer service. I have talked to 10 different people and every is "so sorry" but nothing happens.
When I signed up I asked them multiple times if they service high end appliances and they were like "oh yeah" why do you even ask. We are the best. So fed up now, I would like to just cancel and get my money back. Oh yeah, they charged $100 visit fee right away. :). Also BTW, I called the appliance company directly, the guy who came to my house, never even put in any details about my cooktop or said he couldn't open it, etc. So my request is kind of lost there also. I called them 3-4 times but still nothing. If I could, I would be "Zero" rating but system doesn't have that option.
Alka,
I am sorry to hear that AHS has not provided a suitable resolution at this time for your Cooktop request. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

You pay for service...they send inadequate service repair companies that lie and misdiagnose repair and try to blame the customer. This way the customer is responsible for repair. If you’re it smart enough to dispute the claim you’re stuck for the service call and new appliance! Thankfully I refused to allow that to happen so they did send someone else who indicated he did over 500 disputed claims for AHS! Really!? Once it was determined that we needed a replacement we couldn’t get through to AHS. And replacement or reimbursement was also a disappointment. Canceled my contract!
Erica,
I hate to hear that you were not satisfied with the service received with AHS. I have sent a private message to you regarding the resolution. Thanks for your patience as we work towards that resolution.

The air conditioner was leaking and not working, and I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. The website was very simple to use and after the hurricane went through, the contractor was very quick to get out here. They’re here today to do the work and the technician said he should be done in two or three hours, and I think he'll be able to accomplish it. They have been great. However, American Home Shield doesn’t understand customer service. If I am their customer and BestWay is their vendor, I don’t understand why it's my obligation to keep calling them, asking them about the status and being told that I should directly call BestWay. I figure, as a customer service-oriented business as American Home Shield is, they ought to be the one that’s being proactive instead of sitting back there and cashing my check and closing the claim and everything else when the work hasn’t even started yet.

I had American Home Shield nine years ago, and I bought a house in April and I also got them. And I'm much more satisfied this time around with them. I've done a combination of submitting a claim over the phone and online, and I'm very satisfied with each. When the dryer wasn't drying, the tech fixed it right away. He was here and gone within half an hour. It was very brief.

I've never had an issue with anybody from American Home Shield. The contractor came out in about four days. They contacted us, but we needed to schedule it. The contractor was fantastic, did a great job, checked everything, and made sure that everything was working once he found the issue. Everything has been perfect. We haven't had any issues. So, we're very happy. It's been an excellent experience.

I had a plumbing issue with my dishwasher and American Home Shield sent out a contractor after I filed a claim online. One guy came out and worked on the issue. He told me that it seems to be working, but he put on the thing that the garbage disposal would not clear, and that was why it couldn’t finish doing what it needed to do.
For a couple of years that I've been with American Home Shield, it impresses me that anytime that I have a problem, whether I call them or go on the internet and put in a service call, they respond right away. In fact, sometimes, they will give you a choice of which vendor you want to go with. However, I don’t I like paying almost $59 a month, and then when there’s a service call, I have to pay $75. What kept us around with home warranty is the fear that things are gonna break and we are gonna have to spend our life-savings on it. But because of the pricing, I may decide not to stay with AHS and completely eliminate the home warranty service.

When my dishwasher broke, I made a claim with American Home Shield and followed protocol. I followed the online inquiry with them then I got a repair person to come. The repair guy said that the dishwasher couldn't be fixed. He contacted American Home Shield but they were not so fast in calling me back to resolve this and to let me know what the decision was. There was a mixture of phone calls and online submission of paperwork. The problem was I really had to stay on it with American Home Shield and had to nudge them to move on this. I had to be my own consumer advocate. It wasn't the end of the world though.
American Home Shield gave me certain types of dishwashers but I did not find them comparable to what we had. The other option was they gave me a cashout which was fine. I accepted the money instead. But I had to pay double the amount for a new dishwasher. The machine's great though and I love it. My experience turned out well but compared to the friend, who I learned about American Home Shield from, their experience was good then it wasn't so good. American Home Shield doesn't make a decision if the appliance can be repaired or not. Fortunately our dishwasher was old and fortunately, they were able to resolve it favorably for us to get a new one.

I've been American Home Shield since I bought my place in June. I had them before for five years when I owned a home in New York. They have the best reputation. Back then, it there wasn't a whole lot of choices available like there is now. Also, I didn't really have to use American Home Shield that often. When my sink was leaking really badly that I had to put a bucket underneath the cabinet, I called American Home Shield. The claim process was simple and easy. Their rep explained the process.
I thought the problem was the P-trap but when the technicians came, they diagnosed the correct thing because I'm not a plumber. In an hour, everything was done. It was great. They cleaned up and they even said to me that they had this other kind of faucet that has a higher spout thing. I agreed to it and they did what they had to do. Also, I was sick but they didn't mind that I was acting like I was half dead on the couch. They didn't even mind that my cat wanted to help them. Everything is awesome now and there are no more issues.

When the guy went outside to get the invoice, my daughter noticed that there was still smell like fire. The guy checked and said that maybe it needed another part. They ordered the part and it took about two weeks. I called the lady there and they came in again. That was a Friday and the problem was supposed to be fixed. Then it smelled like fire again on Saturday. I called the company on Monday and I told the lady that I still have the problem. I asked if she could send somebody and she said that they have an appointment after two weeks. I said that I have a baby at home and their guys already came in three times, and they didn’t fix it. I asked her to check if there have any cancellation and she said there was nothing and that she would give me the next appointment that’s for next week. She was very rude.
I called American Home Shield and they sent me another person. The guy was so nice and wonderful. He knew right away what the problem was and he had the parts so he changed it. I had a few issues with my electricity when I moved in. My outlets were loose and I was told that there were frayed wires in our electrical box. I had the technician kinda take a look at that, but he said that there was no issue with them. When he turned on our light switch, our light didn't come on all the time. I thought it was an issue with the actual switch and he said that we just need to change the bulb. He tested the other things that the inspector reported as wrong, but nothing was wrong. But he ended up repairing a few outlets and clipping a lot of the cords that were in the wall. A lot of cords popped out of the wall from our previous owner and we were afraid to clip them because we didn't wanna set our house on fire. We haven’t swapped the light bulb yet but all the outlets are good and I’m happy that the cords are gone. That really went well.
The technician was very professional and very courteous but the India call center is very difficult. The wait time was okay but there is language barrier. Also, when we moved in with American Home Shield, we were promised that we could use it right away to get our locks rekeyed. However, it wasn’t set up and ready to go so we paid for that out of our pocket. That’s not a benefit and that was plugged as one. When I called the India call center, they said they could do a one-time waive for it, and it never went through. That was really disappointing.

Our air conditioner was leaking recently and it turned out not to be working altogether. The motor outside was done. I put in a service request with American Home Shield and they sent Walker Air Conditioning. They came out twice. The first time, the contractor checked everything. The unit was on the fritz so they couldn't identify wholeheartedly what was going on with it. They told me to let them know if something happens in the future.
Then the second time, we called and that was when the motor had completely gone out. The service guy came the very next day to check it out and then he ordered parts. He didn't have to wait for an approval for the part because of the fact that he immediately identified what the problem was. He said, "I'll talk to you all by 12 o'clock tomorrow," which was gonna be Labor Day and sure enough, he surpassed our expectations and came with the item to fix the problem. He resides here in Laredo and it was about 110 when this was going on. He knew it wouldn't be appropriate to not help out as much. So, that was great and we didn't have any issues since. The last one we had was SAC, and they were terrible and pointless. The wait times for AHS to get back could be improved, but other than that, it’s great.

My fridge side wasn't cooling. It was chill, but it wasn't cold to where it needed to be so my milk was always going bad. I normally fix appliances around the house, but this one was a pretty big job, so I had to have some kind of help. I went online and made my service request with American Home Shield. That was pretty simple. They sent out GE Appliances and their tech was pretty professional. He knew what he was doing which was pretty good. But I saw some frost on the part he replaced and I'm not sure if that's normal. Other than that, everything is still working a lot better. AHS was very helpful.

I opened up a claim with American Home Shield for the well pump. I used their website and it was easy to use. But I had to call them back because we were without water, and the initial contractor they gave me weren’t gonna be able to come out for a week. I talked to one of the customer service reps at American Home Shield, and she got on the phone while I was on hold and she found the Neely contractor. He was able to come out the same day and do it. The tech was good and friendly. It was a good experience. He replaced the well pump and the repair made everything very easy. And he was out within a couple of hours.

Submitting claims with AHS is kinda ridiculous. I usually do it through a phone call and sometimes that works, but sometimes there’s a language issue on the other end of the home warranty people. And I really struggle to understand the accent that their customer service has. It’s not a clear English for my ears and to me, customer service has got to be a clear communication. But with them, it’s not. And that happened for several phone calls. So, I decided to do it online and that put you out into an abyss. Other than that, their contractors were good. But when I was looking for somebody to do a repair, I had never heard of the ones that were offered up to me by the home warranty group. They must be small businesses that are trying to build up a client base and that was interesting.
Recently, the young man from Sharper Service Solutions came out for the repair of my oven and he knew what he was doing. He explained himself fully, was eager to please as a customer service representative, and was able to take the technical and convert it into layman’s understanding for me, the customer. In the end, he fixed it and my oven is working great now, so I have no problems with Sharper Service Solutions. My problem is with AHS and I won't be renewing with them. The warranty costs $450 for a year, plus I pay $75 for the service call. So, they're expensive and they have poor and confusing customer service.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I moved to my home February of 2018, and that’s when I initiated signing up with AHS. So far, I've been with them for a year and nine months now. I submitted an AC claim to American Home Shield. I called their contractor on a Monday and they offered to come out on a Wednesday, but I wasn’t available. So, that was on me. And they came out in three days. My air conditioner definitely has a leak or multiple leaks on the condenser so there was no Freon in the system at all. I don’t know if that wasn’t caught before considering that in my last service call, they had put in Freon.
They said that we needed a new condenser. Unfortunately, it was a Thursday when they came out to look at it and diagnosed the problem. The contractor had 24-48 business hours to submit that claim to AHS. That was Labor Day weekend so they didn’t send that information to AHS on Thursday or Friday, and they were closed on Saturdays and Sundays. They tried to get a hold of them but couldn’t. Monday was a holiday too, so the following Tuesday, they submitted the information to AHS and had to get the part in. But AHS came back sooner than expected, so within two weeks of when I submitted the claim, everything was taken care of. And for some reason, they just gave me a brand new unit, which is great, so I now have a new air conditioner unit.

Some condenser in my air conditioning unit was not operating. I prefer calling AHS to file a claim and the reps I've spoken with have all been very good. But this time, I had gone online. There were two different contractors that came in. The last one was good, the one before that wasn't. He said my AC was low in Freon and that he had to put Freon in. I told him that we should find where the leak is but he said that it was gonna be okay. And it wasn't. When I called the second time, I asked AHS to please not send that person back again. And the second guy found the leak right away. It was a Schrader valve that was old. It was not sealing up properly.
I've been with AHS for four years total. They have always treated me very well, even when we moved from Orlando. We had them in Orlando, we moved over to Holiday. And over there, they were absolutely phenomenal. Most of the people that have come to do service work had been very good. I've had a good experience with AHS that's why we put them on the new house.

I was selling my house and there were certain things that needed to be fixed. It turned out that I could claim them all into the same thing. I went online and I just put something in and I made my way around it. But if I had to tell my mom to go up there and do it, there is no way because there were certain things that were covered, but they weren’t there. The bathtub faucet wasn’t up there as well as the physical faucet or the spout. It just said, “Faucets Total.” So, you couldn’t really specify.
The contractor got there and he said that they didn’t say anything about a bathtub and I told him that it was a faucet but there were two different faucet problems. He still took care of it and fixed it as soon as he could. The guy was really nice, friendly and everything was prompt. He had to leave to get a part but he updated me of what was going on. I didn’t have to call anybody. I’ve been through a couple of different companies and American Home Shield is one of the only companies that I’ve been through that took care of everything. I’ve been with them for three years now and on my new house, I got another policy through them.

American Home Shield has generally been pretty good. We've had them out on a few other calls since we've had them. We had another company before them that went out of business. And so, we got them, and their service call is higher, but that's what the market is, so we have to pay it, and it's generally less expensive than if I had to pay for repairs myself.

Some of the outlets in the master bathroom, hallway bathroom, and then a couple in the hallway weren’t working. We would have to switch the power off downstairs and turn it back on in the electrical box. If we switch it off and turn it back on, it would work for a couple of times. But if we use it more than once, it would just keep switching off. The breaker kept throwing. Someone came out the first time and replaced something. It worked while they were here, but when we tried to use it that night into the next morning, the breaker popped again so they came back out.
They found out that there's a little test button under the electrical outlet that can be pushed to get it to reset. It has one of those in the bathroom. It also has the same option down in the breaker box. The second guy that came out said it seemed like both were trying to counteract each other, like trying to test it. He replaced that entire test portion and it fixed it.
For the most part, all of the American Home Shield contractors have been really good. The only one that stood out to me was another company that came out to look at our AC heating unit. They found that there was something wrong with the compressor and while the guy was here, I asked if there was anything that we could’ve done on our end and if there was any type of issue that we caused that could’ve caused the compressor to go out. He reassured us that there was nothing, it was just an older system and stuff like that happens.
When the claims department reviewed the report, they called us back and told us that the technician said it was because we had two air filters in our system. I said that we’ve never had that. We talked with the technician before he left and asked him specifically but he wrote it up as if we caused the problem, which was really disturbing. Why will they write something up saying that it was our fault, which it wasn’t our fault? It doesn’t even make sense to me. We’re taking responsibility for something that we did but if the tech specifically said that there was nothing, that’s totally different from, “Oh yeah, you did something.” That’s crazy.
Another thing is that when I put in a claim and then I don’t need the services after all. I called in and told AHS that I won't be needing the services, and asked them to make sure that the fee is not taken out. I was reassured that it won't be since I canceled the service but they still took it out. I had to end up calling a little bit after that and we had to wait through them reprocessing. It happened twice.

Then I remembered I could do it online, and so I did and it gave me this cool thing where you could select somebody. I chose Service One Air ‘cause they had better ratings than the options I saw, and they were out the next day. In fact, they called me back in no time at all. My wife and I have multiple properties. We have American Home Shield and we’ve had it for for close to 20 years now. I’ve had them longer on one of my rental houses which I’ve owned for 40 years. We pay their premiums mostly. But every once in a while, they pay for something. As far as the technicians that arrived, they were all professional and knew their thing. I usually call AHS and their reps would take my inquiry. The reps that I’ve spoken with so far have been fine. They would assign the claim to somebody, the contractor would contact me and then, somebody would come out and then they'd get an approval from AHS.
There was a time when I thought of changing all my policies to another company. Calling on their 800-number and waiting, and waiting, and waiting drove me crazy. I realized so many people are doing everything online but that’s just not me. I’m on the phone all day long and I like talking to people, getting their name and making notes, and have a way of circling back if something good or not so good happens. But they’ve already improved on their wait time which made a big difference. The last four or five times that I’ve called, I hardly had any wait. So, the wait time on the phone have since gone down tremendously and that makes me happy now.
Overall, I can give AHS high marks on their service. I just wish they could figure out my intermittent problem with my air-conditioning unit at my house. It stops pumping cold air and then it starts heating up. It happens on days when we’ve had 110 plus degree weather. So it’s really, really not fun. But every time their contractor would come out, it’s working normally. They sent out the original company, and then they came out two more times. And then, just yesterday, they assigned it to another company, and they came out and looked at it, and it didn’t replicate the problem. If something isn’t broken, they can’t figure out what’s causing it to have a problem intermittently. But I give AHS credit for sending somebody out for four times. I’m happy with how they handled everything.

I have had a horrible experience with this company. I purchased this warranty when I purchased my new home. I initially submitted a service request on 9/4th after making 3 months of premium payments. The request was for a plumbing issue. I called to check on the service request. My request was cancelled. They could not find a plumber in the Syracuse NY area. Their remedy is for me to find my own plumber, pay for it & they will reimburse. But the the purpose of a home warranty is to ensure that you're not stuck with high out of pocket expenses.
I was not notified that my request was cancelled. They did not find a contractor in 24 hours. My leak is not fixed. They placed me on hold for over 30 minutes. They hung up on me. They charged my account for a service fee after saying it was free. No supervisors or management is there that will resolve issues. Very disappointed in the service and lack of ethics.

I've been with AHS for over a year and I always talk to a representative when I have a claim where I can get a name and a number for the person. And if I have additional questions, they can answer it right then and there. I don't like it when I have to ask the computer a question and it'll be after four days before somebody calls me if they ever call back. When it comes to that, I don't do computers. Whenever I speak with the reps at AHS, they are very polite and very attentive. They'll do whatever they can to get to the repair people and once that part is all clear, then it's up to the repair people. From there, they will send out somebody within two or three days.
Sometimes if they have an earlier schedule, they will put you there as early as possible. But it can go as long as four or five days to get somebody out. It all depends how busy that company is. Then they come and look at it, then they have to order parts and that takes a little while. So, it's a process. AHS needs to do something when it's hard for them to have parts because they're dealing with a massive amount of people with various serial and model numbers for different stuff. But overall, they're doing what the average people do and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
When my washing machine broke down again about two months now, they sent out people to look at it. But they came back and it couldn't be fixed. The motor is no longer in stock and the company doesn't make that model machine anymore. They didn't hesitate and gave me a choice to go and get a brand-new machine of my choice. If it'd be something more elaborate than they covered, then I would have to pay the difference. But I managed to find something that was in their coverage price and it was really a beautiful machine when it came. I was very pleased with it.
Recently, my refrigerator has an issue. Everything in my freezer just freeze up with lots of frost, so three times a day, I have to go in and clean out the frost because hot air is coming in the freezer. I have to keep less food in there, so nothing gets spoiled. I put all the things in there that I'm gonna use that day or the day after, but nothing longer because the gaskets around the fridge door are broken. The gasket is supposed to seal the hot air from coming into the fridge and since the gasket is not there, it's sucking in all the hot air from the outside and causing the fridge to spoil. I've thrown away a lot of stuff already. It's very inconvenient and very frustrating.
I submitted a claim with AHS and they sent out a tech from Rocket Repair but they didn't fix anything. The part that they brought was the wrong one. All the parts for the refrigerator that they purchased was for a different model, not for mine, so nothing fits. They had to take the part back and until now, I'm still waiting. This claim has been open going into about eight weeks now.

The AC wouldn’t shut off and it was running constantly. The temperature kept going down. I had to go outside and turn the breaker off to shut it off one night. We called American Home Shield over the phone and the contractor came the following day. I walked outside with him. He told me what the problem was right away. It was a wire that leads to the unit outside. When a weed wrapped around the unit, they caught the wire, or it was old and it shorted itself together but it was what it was causing it to run. He replaced the wire and fixed it in a matter of half an hour, and it has been fine ever since. Everything was good with my experience.

American Home Shield's online claims process is good. Their website's pretty straightforward. Douglas Mechanical came out in three days to assess the damage once I got my claim submitted. Now, getting the air conditioner fixed took way longer than I would've liked, especially these were the hottest days of the year. The issue was getting the authorization approved on what needed to be fixed through Douglas Mechanical. That process was a little lengthy for our air conditioner. Douglas told American Home Shield what the issue was and what the fix needed to be. So, I was kinda in limbo. I couldn't get the repairs done without having it approved because I couldn't pay for it out of my pocket.
Once we figured out what was needed to replace, I had somebody that was able to do it a day after that. Once the repairs were approved, then I was able to get it done immediately. Douglas Mechanical was professional. I ended up not going with them because they could not schedule me sooner. But when they came out to assess the damage and give me an update on what was going on, that was all fine and professional. I guess they were too busy, so I had to go with somebody else, and then I got like a cash out on the claim from American Home Shield.

Everything was good with AC claim with American Home Shield. It just took quite a few times. The first time the company came out, the technician replaced a fuse of some kind in the air conditioner. It ran for a few days but it went out again. So he came back out and there was also some things inside that needed to be replaced which he did. Then it ran for about a week and it was out again and this always happened on a Friday night or Saturday. It ended up being some kind of motor in the furnace that pushes the air to the air conditioner. All of those needed to be fixed. The technician called beforehand and he was there and took care of business. It was working every time by the time he left. Then when I did call American Home Shield, he called me each time the next business day pretty early.

I’ve been dealing with American Home Shield for years and submitting claims has been okay. I usually call and they're pretty knowledgeable. Also, the contractors have been okay. We had a drip in our sink before, and now it's fine. My air conditioner is doing okay too.

I've been with American Home Shield for at least 15 years and I haven't had any problems with them thus far. I have them for my house and I had them for my mom's house in North Carolina too. When my washing machine wouldn't start, I called it in and placed a service request through the automated system. I was given a timeframe and I also got a follow-up email. A contractor then came out and provided good service. He even gave me information regarding my dryer. I asked him what was going on with the dryer, and he told me what I should do. He was very helpful.
Priscilla,
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set and was informative on preventative maintenance but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

I called in a claim and ART Heating and Air was here the next day. With the guy that came to my house, we had gone to school together so he took care of me. He told me to get a filter, and so I got a new one and put it in there, and then he said I must change the filters every month and I'd be okay. The house is cool enough now and I have no problems. I would recommend American Home Shield.

There was something wrong with the electronics of the dishwasher. It was smoking. The contractor had to replace the whole board. They came back with one board, attempted to replace it, and then that didn’t work so they got another board. That took another week and a half, and then they came in, installed it and it’s been perfect so far. The technicians were not engaging but very detail-oriented on the mission to get accomplished.
It took about 10 days to 12 days to get the first part, place it, and then find out it didn’t work. Then we were in a holding pattern, waiting for American Home Shield to determine if they were gonna make a second attempt to try to replace the board or if they were gonna authorize full replacement of the unit. The follow-up was okay. I had to call them on one occasion and get an update after I was promised a call-back on a certain day and it didn’t happen.

My garbage disposal in the sink had a problem. I filed a claim with AHS over the phone and they reached out to one of their approved contractors, who then reached out to me to set up an appointment. Their customer service reps were good and the contract who came out was great. His name was Alex and he was friendly. He got his work done fast and there were no problems with the work that he did. It all seemed well done and he explained to me what went wrong with my existing disposal.

This is my first year with American Home Shield and I’ve called them twice in the last few months. One of them was for the cutout valve for the washer and the other was for the line that goes to the ice maker, the pressure for the water to come out when you push the button wasn’t coming out that fast. They resolved those issues. The technicians took care of everything that I needed done. But I had an issue when my hot water heater was leaking and the guy came out.
On the other side of the water heater, the valve had corroded and was stuck. So, while the guy was here looking at the hot water heater part that was leaking, I asked if he could also replace that valve. He told me that it wasn’t covered. I contacted AHS about it and it almost seemed like they said that the technicians would know what is and what isn’t covered. I even contacted the company and asked them why this wouldn’t be covered because to me, it was a normal wear and tear. It froze up because the water should always be going in there. Also from my understanding, plumbing is supposed to be covered. I was told that plumbing on the outside of the house is not covered. But inside, I assumed they would be covered and for whatever reason, they didn’t cover it. I ended up paying my deductible for American Home Shield and then I ended up paying the plumbing company a separate fee to fix it while he was here.

I did my first claim with American Home Shield and it went pretty easily online. My AC unit was set at 78 and it just kept on running. It wasn't blowing cool enough air. A contractor called me to set up an appointment. Being that it was the summertime, a technician came out in three days' time. He was a very nice gentleman. He checked the AC out and cleaned it. He also checked to see if it needed refrigerant. He then came inside an checked the temperature on the inside. He told me everything else was pretty good on the AC unit and that it just needed a little refrigerant, so he filled it up.

The garage door motor burned out so I submitted a claim with AHS and the service of the contractor was satisfactory. He knew what he was doing and did a good job. He got in the garage and worked in silence. When he finished, he rang me on the phone, I came out and I checked the door. They installed a new motor and a remote control button on the wall, inside the wall next to the door that goes into the house, and they provided me with a little remote button. I tested it and it worked fine.

We had a clogged drain line in the kitchen sink, so we submitted a claim to American Home Shield. The reps over the phone took care of what I needed. The contractor had to come out over two days' time because on his first visit, it took a little less than an hour until he realized that he didn't bring out the equipment that would have done the job. So, he came out the next day, brought out the other equipment and finished the job in two hours. He had to snake the line pretty far, and it seems to have fixed it. I would highly recommend AHS.

American Home Shield's claims process was straightforward. The AC was running all the time so I filed a claim online and the service company called me back. They were a little backed up and they said, “It’s gonna take us three days to get out there.” I said it was okay since it wasn’t like we had no air-conditioning. The guy came out and said, “Looks like it needs a Freon refill. You had to pay for the Freon because that’s not covered.” The stuff was 70 bucks a gallon. 10 bucks was all that American Home Shield paid per gallon so I paid $60 a gallon. The AC seems to be doing better now. The contractor that came was very knowledgeable and very efficient. I’d definitely have those guys back.

I submit claims to American Home Shield online and it indicates that someone will call you the next day. Normally, the provider calls and sometimes, they even call prior to the next day. They call within a couple of hours of submitting the claim and typically, it’s the next day if it’s not a holiday or a weekend. We’ve been happy and satisfied with everybody except for one. We had an issue with the electrical on our pool and the contractor came out and said that the issue was underground and he couldn’t do it. We needed to get a certified electrician to come out and that was not covered by American Home Shield. We had a certified electrician come out and it was not an underground issue. So, I ended up having to pay for the repair twice.
On the website neighborhood, American Home Shield takes quite a beating from a lot of the neighbors and I stood up and said that we’ve been happy with it. It has been a good investment for us. We’ve had it since we’ve been in the house, so it’s been 10 years and it has served us well. We’re satisfied with American Home Shield and I recommended it to other family members and to neighbors.

The air conditioner drain line in the front hallway and the garage was clogged up and backing up into the house. Supposedly, it was recently repaired by a different plumbing organization before we bought the house but it started backing up again. I submitted a claim with AHS and the rep I talked to, Susan, did a great job. She helped us out and had it scheduled and resolved quickly. AHS sent out the techs from Short’s Plumbing and Drain Cleaning and they did a good job. It took them three hours but they were able to fix the problem on the same day. However, they held onto the work order through the weekend. Instead of acting on the work order on a Friday, they waited till Tuesday to come out. So, we had water coming into the house through the weekend. I had to follow up with American Home Shield on Monday to get them to come out. Other than that, I would recommend AHS.
