    The rekey with American Home Shield went great. I contacted AHS and they contacted the contractor who called me the same day. But I was on vacation, so I rescheduled for two weeks later. The contractor was very professional and very nice. The locks work great. But we had another service with the AC, and I don’t think the contractor did anything. He changed the placement of the way the air flew in the house. That didn’t do anything. The AC still didn’t work. He messed with the ac for a minute and left. He said the unit is not the size for the house.

    Lux Air Engineering came out to service our AC unit. It was blowing hot air out and it was determined that the motor was bad. They replaced the motor, and the vendor was professional and efficient. He was good. He had what he needed in his truck and it took him about less than an hour to do the repair. Doing the claim with AHS online was simple. I just put the information in and what the issue was, and then they have the selections for whatever appliance or device.

    There was backing up in the shower of the master bathroom then in the kitchen. After submitting a claim with American Home Shield, a technician came out the next day. He was very nice, polite and prompt. He repaired whatever it was in the master shower and it seemed to be fine, but the sink kept doing it. It didn’t do it for a few days then it started it again. We called the technician back out and he did something to it but it didn’t correct the problem.

    We were on vacation this past week and before we left, the sink was still backing up. We’re still within our 60-day warranty time. We just got back last night and I was gonna call and tell the technician they need to come back. Other than that, we like our technician and we are pleased with American Home Shield. We’ll stay with them. We would recommend American Home Shield highly. Our son in Louisville bought from our recommendation.

    Valley Pro Appliance came out to do service for my recent claim, and they were fine. The contractor came out a little early to accommodate me. I submit my claims with American Home Shield online because you can never get through on the phone. It’s impossible. Everything’s fine other than that.

    I called American Home Shield and talked to a rep to file a claim on the AC unit. Controlled Comfort came out. The gentleman was kind of in a hurry, but I couldn't blame him. I’m assuming he’s got things to do. He accidentally left his extension ladder here. So, I called him and told him, and he came back and got it. Right now, the AC is broken again, and it’s not cooling down. When the gentleman was here, there was a problem with the disconnect and it actually melted down, which was cutting the power off to it. And so, he got that fixed. This time, it’s frozen up. So, there’s something going on with the Freon and everything else that I haven’t gotten to talk to AHS yet.

    I switched to American Home Shield after I had somebody else that was very disappointing. Amtec Services came out for my appliance issue and everything went great. I also had them come out for a dryer issue last year, and I was not a fan of their company 'cause some of their employees don’t speak English very well, so I had a lot of issues the first time around. This time, I was not looking forward to the claim but Gary, the senior mechanic, was amazing.

    My claim with AHS went very well. The person on the phone was very nice, very professional and very patient with me. The contractors were also the best. They came in and took care of the problem. They were in and out. They didn’t try to upsell me there or anything. They just did what they had to do. My ac was not coming on and they told me that it was some bugs that gotten into the contactor and shorted it out. So, they had to clean it. I've never had a problem with AHS. They’ve always come through for me.

    I filed a claim online when our pool heater wasn't igniting. American Home Shield's website was great. But I had to wait for their phone call since there was an initial issue with the first contractor that was gonna come out. They weren't gonna come out for over six weeks. So I called back American Home Shield and told them I'm not waiting six weeks. American Home Shield rerouted me to Cleveland Aqua Pros, and it took them two weeks to get out there, and then after they got there, it was no problem. They had to place the order for the new pool heater, and it was done within a week. They were really good. They even gave us tips to help maintain it better. I would highly recommend Cleveland Aqua Pros. We were very satisfied with our experience. We were able to use our pool again. We have five grandchildren, and they all enjoy the pool.

    I do the regular maintenance check every year because my system is getting older now. So I do it on my furnace and my AC every spring and every fall. I saw a message from American Home Shield that said you could do each one and they had me process it separately into two different requests, one for the HVAC system and one for the ductwork. K&J Mechanical LLC came out and it went well. The technician said everything looked good, especially for the age of the system. But he didn't check the ductwork and I didn't realize that that didn't take place until he had gone. My husband reminded that I had requested it and paid for it. So I'm waiting for them to call me back so they can reschedule that part. I think it's because he didn't get the work order though.

    I had some kinda blockage in the drainage for the AC unit, and so the drip pan was filling up. The technician sent by American Home Shield came in and blew out the drain line, cleared it up and then gave some recommendations on how to keep it clear. He explained to me what he was gonna do and then did it, and he was only there for a few minutes. It’s been working good now, no problem.

    My air conditioner would quit cooling in the afternoon when it started getting really hot. It was like 100 degrees. And it would freeze you out of the house during the day, but in the afternoon when it started getting really hot, then it’d quit cooling. I had to turn it off. I finally figured out that if I would turn it off and leave it off for a few minutes and then turn it back on, it would work a little. I called American Home Shield and I got all my information and got me somebody. The contractors and the service they provided were good. They knew what they were doing and they did it. They replaced something, some part on the outside unit. They replaced a part that was going bad. American Home Shield is good. I’ve had it for a lot of years.

    This company is nothing but FRAUD! I had my AC repaired on 9/20/19 which cost me over $800.00 to repair (which took 2 weeks to get them to come out because they were waiting for part from AHS) and after all that it was still was not working. I called on 9/20/19 to AHS because the service tech said my Evaporator Coil needed to repaired. The AHS lady I spoke to with the service tech said it was covered and he could repair it and did not need to change the original invoice. He needed to come back to repair as it was late. I got a call from his office stating when they called AHS they said it wasn't covered. So I called again and the person stated it wasn't covered. So on 9/21/19 I had to pay $550.00 for this repair. I had time on Sunday 9/22/19 to review my contract and in both the heating and AC section is states the Evaporator Coil is covered.

    COVERED: Ducted electric wall air conditioning systems – Water evaporative cooler systems – Costs related to freon recapture – Ducted electric central air conditioning systems including: condenser; metering devices (i.e. thermal expansion valves); furnace transition; evaporator coils and drain lines; air handling unit; air handling transition; secondary drain pan and lines; and refrigerant lines are covered. So I called on 9/22/19 to AHS and spoke to a guy who agreed with me that it was covered and was going to talk to his supervisor and I would get a call on Monday 9/23/19. Of course that never happened. I called today (Tuesday 9/24/19) and was told it does say it is covered but not for any cleaning under section H.

    "H. LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS 7. AHS is not responsible or liable for repair of conditions or replacement caused by chemical or sedimentary build up, misuse or abuse, failure to clean or maintain, missing parts, structural changes, fire, freezing, electrical failure or surge, water damage, lightning, mud, earthquake, soil movement, storms, accidents, pet damage, pest damage, acts of God, or failure due to excessive or inadequate water pressure." I cannot clean this area. Only a hired AC Tech could. The tech cleaned and repaired this part. These contracts are misleading to the consumer and I plan on filing a consumer complaint against AHS.

    The service representative was the worst I have ever dealt with. I have been a customer for over 20 years. They kept me on hold for over an hour. When I finally spoke to the rudest rep she took over an hour taking down information. I am still on line with her and no results. The worst company!!!!

    I called AHS to report a leak in my main drain (the one sewage runs through). Their assigned plumber was out to confirm the leak on Tuesday 9/17. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday go by with no follow up. I stressed the urgency of the matter various times. They basically left me with leaking sewage, so I followed up again on Saturday 9/21. No status was provided. It's as if they didn't even talk to the plumber they assigned. 4 days went by! I told them I could not wait and had it fixed. They would offer a CIL (cash in lieu) instead. That ended up being $160, which is a joke. The work was well over $1,000. Companies like AHS get away with this too often. You finally need them for something major and they leave you waiting. I've had my contract with them for almost 8 years. It has probably cost me over $6,000 when you add up all the monthly payments, and they give me $160 for something major like this? I'm furious.

    I have used AHW on several occasions and as long as the job is simple it is completed in a timely manner. If it's complicated you can expect to wait and wait for completion. On the first occasion this happened to us we had an electrical issue, our entire upper floor had no electricity. AHS sent out contractor after contractor who were unable or refused to finish the job because of the scope of the work. We ended up without electricity for 2 months. We kept the warranty for another term besides this just in case, well our hot water heater went out. We waited a day and a half for someone to come out. When he arrived he appeared to know little about plumbing which concerned us. He then left the house saying he was going to check on the part needed and call us within an hour. Well four hours passed, still no hot water and no phone call.

    I called him. He said he was still looking. I called AHS and they told me they would contact contractor. Then I received an email that another contractor had been assigned. We ended up calling at the end of the business day and were able to find a contractor to come out the next morning. They had the parts, and we had hot water within a few hours. We could not risk waiting days or weeks for hot water like we did for the electricity. When I called AHS, they refused to refund the $100 service fee even though they did not fix the problem. My experience is they hire the cheapest least experienced contractors, give you the runaround when things are tricky and refuse to make it right when they are unable to fix things in a timely manner. Just save your money and be ready to pay for home fixes. This company is not worth bothering with.

    THIS IS THE WORST INSURANCE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE. YOU'RE BETTER OFF NOT GETTING INSURANCE!!!! So my water heater unfortunately stopped working and I called AHS to come replace or fix it due to the fact that I had 2000 dollars worth of insurance so when this time came all I would be charged for is the service fee.

    When I called they sent out a licensed plumber to take a look which I had to end up getting another opinion because this guy was so unprofessional he was literally in my house for less than 5 minutes, took off his sneakers for whatever reason took like two pictures and left. But anyways after they received the invoices from both plumbers they began to tell me that I would still have to pay 500 to 700 dollars still to fix a certain tube for the heater which I researched and looked into only cost 60 dollars in actuality so it definitely felt like a gimmick and mind you that cost MORE than an ENTIRE water heater itself!!!

    So I’m just so curious and confused as to what they do with the entire 2000 dollars!! WHERE DOES IT GO? WHAT DOES IT DO? WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR? The whole sole purpose for this insurance was to cover it especially with 2000 dollars and when I asked for corporate information to contact them they ONLY had an address no email, no phone number, not even a fax number which is EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL but hey glad to know I just gave 2000 dollars away for no apparent reason. Hopefully I get good karma in the future for it. Word of advice if you don’t want to waste money, time, or your sanity DO NOT GET INSURANCE WITH AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. THEY ARE FRAUDS!!!!

    I had two different claims with American Home Shield. With the upstairs AC unit that wasn't cooling, I phoned that in to AHS and I got a phone call from the company coming out to do the service. The service I received for that one was great. The guy did an exceptional job. In fact, that was the first service call that I had from AHS where the person came and did the repair all in one step. They didn't have to order a part, they didn't have to come back later. However, the service for the heater on my pool was terrible. I did not experience good service when it came to my hot water unit either. So, it seems like those that have to do with gas appliances, they're not very seriously considering the ramifications of those appliances.

    If it's gonna be a big out of pocket expense for AHS, I don't feel that I don't get covered adequately. You have a refrigerator that goes, they said they couldn't get the parts, so they did have to either cash me out or purchase a refrigerator. That works. On the hot water heater, they said it didn't meet code and I was gonna have to take down these walls to install a hot water heater. So the guy didn't turn it off, he didn't unassemble it, he didn't remove it, he just left with the $75 service call. And then, I had to get a cash out and hire someone.

    The contractors for the heater on my pool said one thing when they were out here, but they didn't state what they said when they turned in their paperwork. And then, I was forced to get a second opinion, the second opinion didn't agree, and what they told me versus what they told AHS was not the same. Now, AHS is offering a third opinion and they have declined to fix the unit that I asked them to come out and fix, stating that it's not normal wear and tear. The unit is 18 years old and the reason why I got a service contract was so that it'd be covered. I've spoken with multiple representatives stating that they would have someone call me back, and no one has. And then I got an email that the service was completed, but it wasn't. Then I spoke with somebody on LiveChat yesterday that asked me what did I want to see happen. I said I want the unit to be repaired or replaced. That's why I'm paying for a service contract.

    I'm a Realtor and not only am I not gonna use AHS anymore, I'm definitely not gonna refer anybody because this is the kind of service my clients would get. The AHS rep said he would allow the last person I spoke with to get in touch with me. And I said, "Well, that's good. Because the last person I spoke to said he was gonna have a person prior to him call me, and she never has." So, everybody promises to call back, but nobody does. This claim started 1st of June this year and since the heater unit of the pool is attached to gas and water, I had to shut off the gas line going to the unit and I had to diminish the water flow through that heater. It's just ridiculous. AHS service companies are all over the map, and most of the service people will agree that AHS doesn't repair things, they just put a bandage on it.

    We requested a service call for our gas furnace. Ahs sent out Total Air Care. 7 months later and multiple no shows from total air care and we still do not have a working furnace. Ahs agreed to send out a different contractor but still has not. Go with another company, AHS is like throwing money away!

    Whoever installed the drain didn't put enough of a downward spout on it, so it was flooding the drain pan. The communication and interactions with the contractor were very good, and I would recommend them. The owner came out the second time to make sure it was done right. He explained what was wrong and the issue. I also had a claim with American Home Shield for the fridge and it wasn’t handled within a timely manner because it took us almost four weeks to get a fridge. I had to go pick it up myself because they couldn't deliver it for another week, and I wasn't waiting five weeks for a fridge when I had kids in the house. It made it very difficult. The first company that came out turned the report in after the sixth day and said that they couldn’t fix it. Before AHS sends contractors out, maybe they should do a background check. I did my own check on the first service repair company, with the fridge, and they didn't have very good reviews.

    The fridge was leaking water everywhere, and it was just running down and going exactly where the pot filler is on the wall, dripping down, and damages the basement ceiling. The contractor that AHS sent was good, nice guy too, and willing to help. We assumed it was the pot filler and we actually found out that it was not plumbing. It was an appliance. The contractor didn't do anything ‘cause it wasn’t plumbing so I had to remake a claim against the appliance. I just need some follow on if the damage that the water caused on the drywall and the ceiling stuff is covered under insurance as well, all in one claim. He couldn’t answer that, and I didn't know who I need to talk to to get that figured out.

    The guy from R&S Home Maintenance who came out fixed the main problem, the dryer. But while he was here, he said that my door needs a replacement, that thing that holds the door from flopping down. I said okay. And he said, “Well, I was gonna order that part for you. And when it comes in, I’ll just come back.” When I asked if I need to go ahead and say something to AHS, he said “No. You don’t live far from me. So, when the part comes in, I’ll just bring it in and put it on. Don’t worry about it.” We took him at his word. So, I went on and signed up on some paper. I should have known better. I’ve been out of town but I have my cellphone with me the whole time and that was where he was supposed to call me. It has been over a month now and I have heard nothing back from him.

    I had Sears and a friend of mine said that I should try American Home Shield because they were better than Sears. AHS's price was $25 higher than Sears, but the guy said that AHS service was so much better. So, I changed over and have been with them for six months now. Other than my experience with that guy from R&S, I have no problems with AHS. So far, they've been fine.

    The air conditioner was not working and I called American Home Shield. I went through the automation and it said someone would reach out within 24 or 48 hours. AHS assigned me to Foxcroft who called me a day later. The contractor was great.     My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the freezer part of my refrigerator. It wasn’t draining and it was all ice up on the inside. There was a big chunk of ice on the very bottom of it. I called and they sent a repairman out, and he got all that ice out of there. And he tried to clean up, but there were a bunch of parts that needed to be ordered for it. And evidently, they couldn’t get those parts anymore. Then they called me and told me that American Home Shield would be getting ahold of me.

    American Home Shield called me and gave me the option to order a refrigerator from them or from the company that they always order from, or they gave me an option to send me a check and I could go find one myself. They told me how to get online and find out where they were getting the refrigerator and stuff from, and I looked at it and I just went ahead and ordered it from them. I got a GE refrigerator. Evidently, they do a lot of business with this company, so they can get a discount type of thing, but then if I wanted to go someplace else, they would have sent me a check for $1,100 and some to go do my own.

    I chose just to go with the one that I looked at, that they were thinking about, and it was basically like the same thing that I had, same dimensions and everything. So, I couldn’t see any sense in going out and trying to find another one, and AHS just had it delivered. The problem is the people that delivered it. In order to put the fridge in the house, they have to take some doors off to get it out. They don’t do that. We were gonna do that ourselves. But I haven’t had a chance yet to even utilize it. So, it is sitting out on my back patio. What Home Shield told me was once I got it in the house, then they would send somebody out to hook it up and do whatever needed to be done to it. But the delivery people do not dismantle and put it back together. The reps of AHS are very friendly, and if they can't help me, they get me to somebody who can.

    I filed a claim for the AC when it stopped working. I was really impressed with American Home Shield because when I called and told them my husband had heart concerns, and could they get someone out the same day, the rep called the contractor right away. And then she came back to the phone and said that they would be out that afternoon. It was a great, great experience because I was really stressed out when I called around 7:30 that morning.

    The contractor that American Home Shield assigned to the claim called on a Monday, and they came out the same day. But the AC went out again in two or three days, so we called them again. They needed a part, so they had to come out a third time. But the work was performed great because the end result is that the AC is really working good now. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. They are doing a great job. I’ve already recommended them to my cousin.

    When I purchased my first house, the seller offered American Home Shield to me and I've been with them since 1997. My latest claim was for the icemaker of my refrigerator and the tech that AHS sent out was really good. The work was completed in less than an hour. I would recommend AHS. But I don't like that I have to pay before the contractor comes out. There’s that possibility you might change your mind, then you gotta take a couple days.     This house was put up 12 years ago, and I bought it eight years ago. I recently had a leaking toilet faucet and I paid $75 through my master charge. American Home Shield sent a plumber from Home Choice Service and when the plumber saw the faucet, he said it's Moen and they have a lifetime guarantee. Home Shield wanted us to get the part and I am supposed to get it, then when I get the part, call them back, and then these plumbers would come and fix it.

    I went online with Moen and asked them to confirm that they would cover the part, and they told me it's not guaranteed because I'm not the original purchaser. They sent me a copy of their Moen limited lifetime warranty as well. I can't get the part free and I'm very disappointed in American Home Shield because I am charged with the responsibility to go into a manufacturer to get a replacement part. First of all, I don't know how to take a picture and put it on my computer. I had to get my daughter to come and do it for me. American Home Shield should be responsible for fixing the faucet.

    The temperature in the refrigerator was rising and wasn’t keeping the food cold. I called Hotshot Appliance so they could come back out because they had recently fixed it for the same thing but it's working good now. The refrigerator has had the same problem a couple of times with the temperature not holding, and it seems like American Home Shield doesn't necessarily want to replace it, which it may need. They just wanna continue to fix it. AHS should kinda look at the overall history and they need to evaluate and ask why they need to keep sending people to fix it if it's the same thing. The experience hasn't been perfect with AHS but I would still recommend them.

    The AC unit was still running but if I had the thermostat set at 70, the house temperature would climb to 75 before it would start to cool back down again. It couldn't keep up for some reason. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and it wasn’t bad. It asked me what it was for, I put in AC, and they said that they assigned a contractor, and they said they would call me. The next day, I called the contractor and they told me when they would be out. It took a couple of days and the first guy that came out didn’t know what he was doing. He was a young kid and I don't know how much experience he had, but he didn't find anything wrong other than the filters.

    There are two air filters in the house for the air conditioner unit. One is in the living room and one is in the bedroom, and I replace them every three months and it was two months into it. I was gonna wait another month to replace them and the technician said they were clogged and that was what the problem was. I paid $100 for something I did myself. I got the step ladder, went up, loosened the grate, took the filter out and put a new filter in. Each filter only took 10 seconds. Then he left and said that it was the problem but I didn't believe that. A month later, the whole unit just stopped. I put in another call and a different guy was sent out. The new guy from the same company came out and he went up in the attic and he found a wire that was shorting out and he fixed that. He checked the unit out as well as the Freon, and the AC has been okay ever since. I wasn’t billed the second time since the first guy didn’t do anything.

    Earlier this year, American Home Shield had a special they were running for 75 bucks to come out and check your air conditioner and make sure it's ready for the season. I signed up for it. I called on the phone and they didn't schedule a date. So three days later, I called back and AHS said they assigned it to a company. I called the company and they said they couldn't do maintenance. People's air conditioners were breaking down and they serviced them first. I said that I could understand that but they were never coming to do the maintenance on it. So I cancelled it and I never had it done. If I was American Home Shield, I'd look for another contractor in the area.

    The tech from All In One Appliance Repair was fantastic. He called before he came just to get the details of what was going on because there’s not a lot of detail when I submit the computerized version. He pretty much knew what was going on before he even came. So, he came with the prepared part, he was ready to go, and then, he still made sure that he wasn’t missing anything before he left. He did the job, made sure everything was good, and gave me some more information about how to take care of appliances, and he was great.

    I’ve had American Home Shield for a really long time. Most of the time, it’s good. Things have really improved. Submitting claims online is easier ‘cause I don't have to look up as much. I do online for submitting and then I call I have questions. One time, I had a complex issue with my air conditioner that was a problem. I had to keep talking to different people and I really needed to just talk to one central manager because it was a redo situation. Since it’s their job to try to solve it without sending me to a manager, it took several calls, but that’s protocol. I understand. However, if they could just give me to the top person, this would get done so much faster, but then, they got it resolved. So, it worked out. In the beginning, like six years ago, they were not hiring the best subcontractors. But we’ve had really good experiences with our contractors over the past three years. So, whoever they're working with has been a lot better.

    I logged a claim online with American Home Shield. It was for a fridge repair. There was some electronic component that was not working so it had to be replaced. The online claim process was very easy and the followup from both American Home Shield and the company they provided was good. It took five days for a technician to come to my house. American Home Shield could not find another company nor could they get a sooner schedule. And this is not the first time. Anything I have with them, it takes them a good while before somebody gets sent irrespective of how urgent I say something is. But the company that American Home Shield gave the last time around had very good service. I didn't have a problem with the company itself but it took a while for them to get the part.

    I’ve been with American Home Shield for 17 years now and I’m extremely annoyed with their repair-versus-replace policy. They go way over to try to repair and repair things. When it gets to a point when it needs to be replaced, they don’t replace. This is always the case. Also, I’ve never had American Home Shield follow up and ask me if my issue was resolved. I don’t think they have a competitor in the industry. American Home Shield pretty much has a monopoly in the industry. For this particular refrigerator repair, the component was pretty expensive, so it kind of pays for the annual fee or monthly fee. That’s the only reason why I keep my home warranty because I’m hoping at least I’ll break even. These components, when you replace them, they are $600 a pop irrespective of whether you’re trying to fix a fridge or an AC. But if I had a chance to move to another company, I will.

    I live in a house in a development where everybody's air conditioners are bad. They're too small of units for our townhouses, they're more for condos, and I've been told this by several air conditioning guys. In the first year I was here, we had an issue and it was 105 degrees. We couldn't even stay here. I called my American Home Shield, and the people that they recommended didn't get here for five days. They were terrible, not polite, and just awful. They came out 2 or 3 times in the past. So in my records, I want them taken off the list and use Air Pro Services instead. Air Pro Services is amazing, family-oriented, and they know our name when they called to tell me what time their guy's coming.

The guy from Air Pro Services was here by 10:00. I specifically asked for them when I called because I didn't want the first company to be sent out. So, it was a very good experience and everything's great since the repair. When I call American Home Shield and speak to a representative, they ask what the problem is. They are very nice and they would schedule the call for the air conditioning company to come out then I get a call back. It's a really good service.

    The refrigerator freon was finished. I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield. Within 24 hours, somebody called me. Then the schedule took time because I called Tuesday but Express Appliance Services came on a Friday. Express Appliance was pretty good. The only thing was that they do not give me a call. I call them and it takes half an hour to answer the call. But they're very professional. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. They're just great. I'm happy.

    This company has failed to comply with their contractual obligation to make a repair authorized by their vendor and ordered. It's been almost 3 weeks. On 9/6/19 a service call was made in response to a request for service. The vendor that looked at our HVAC diagnosed the problem as a broken blower motor that was covered under the warranty. The part was supposed to be ordered the same day. I called American Home Shield the same day to confirm this. They quoted me 3-5 days to receive the part. My local rep Rick ** assured me that they would expedite my part because of the extreme heat.

    On 9/10/19 I called to check on the status of the part and was informed that it was never ordered. I was told by Monica at American Home Shield that the part was ordered and would arrive on 9/18/19. On 9/19/19, I was informed that the part was never shipped and that the part still has not left the manufacturer. As of 9/23/19, the part still has not been shipped. No one from American Home Shield is contacting me to give me a status. I requested them to let me hire an outside vendor to make the repair in one day and they denied me. My family has no Air Conditioning and temperatures in our home are over 80 degrees.

    End of day it's all about the fine print and expectations. I've had them for several years. Here is what I learned. And will be canceling now.

    - If you want one person to call who will have someone show up and fix what's broken this isn't a bad solution. If this is all you are using them for, you are probably overpaying given the several hundred dollar annual fee plus the deductible.

    - Don't expect a new appliance/unit without serious delays or hassle. Each major issue I had was a several week turnaround. Small issues were pretty quick though. They only use places they buy from so if your unit needs a major part they will spend weeks trying to find it. We went without A/C for weeks because of this and our water heater was the same way.

    - The way they don't lose money is they value each of the items they cover and provide a Maximum lifetime payout for each, which they all are very low. When my water heater went out, it was several weeks to replace so I took the cash value which was $425. The cost to replace was around $1,500. And you need to have it installed by a licensed person with proof or they will not pay.

    - You may still pay a lot for an issue. My A/C went out on a 30 year old A/C. The compressor broke and to replace the compressor I had to shell out an extra $1,000 for new freon, and some piping work. This wasn't covered. So to repair the cost of an old AC was not worth the out of pocket. The cash out value they gave me for the "repair" was $478.

    - It's in their best interest to continue to fix the unit until it's not fixable because this reduces their lifetime value they will pay out on a per appliance/unit. If you keep getting something serviced, it reduces the overall payout on an item so when it does break the amount you end up getting is marginal and you will spend about the same amount of money on whether you had a warranty or not.

    End of day, it's convenient when you have a minor issue, but don't go looking for this to save you a lot of money. I think I probably broke even on what I purchased at the end of the day (and assuming I get my check).

    After a lot of research I paid for American Home Shield's premium package. We purchased a home built in 1996 and they were one of the few companies that would cover us regardless of the previous owners maintenance and negligence of the home. The Premium package was over 600.00 dollars which I did not mind paying as it was going to cover our home should anything break down.

    A month and a half into it, we had our attic checked out in our efforts to cut down on our high energy bills and the gentleman informed us that our attic ventilation fans were not working. So we made a claim to AHS (American Home Shield), after two of their vendors let us know they could not help us, I asked for an outside authorization which they authorized. That Gentleman came our and told us that they were in fact not working and called AHS with the quote which was denied, after talking to AMS regarding the denial they sent a second contractor out to evaluate the problem in which he concurred with the previous contractor, but was also denied!

    We ended up paying for the 1st contractor out of pocket just to keep from the AC unit from going bad due to the excessive heat and constantly working unit. Needless to say we decided to CANCEL the policy as they were NO HELP at all. We were told they would cancel the policy and pro-rate the amount for the months we had it. Also said there would be early termination of 58.00 + 58.00 for June, July and August meaning we would get back approximately 450.00. Well the check I received was for $94.30! I have been on the phone constantly trying to reach someone in the United States and not Philippines or other countries and have yet to do so, I've asked for Managers, or higher up employees in the US and keep getting the same run around! American Home Shield should not be conducting business if this is how they are going to do it!!

I was debating on staying with American Home Shield, but after being handled as a customer should ALWAYS be, with care, concern and urgency, I am happy to say, I will be keeping AHS as my home warranty provider.     I have been with American Home Shield since Feb 2019. This was my first time requesting service for anything and my experience was horrible and raised my blood pressure severely! I have never been treated so bad by a company who I chose based on their stellar reviews. I am a paying customer, so I expected much better treatment.

    I contacted AHS on 9/7/19 to request service on my central AC unit....it wasn't coming on or blowing out air....with temperatures in the upper 90's, making the temp in our home 87 degrees, and my son having asthma so severe that if he gets too warm, he has seizures, this was an emergency! The customer service rep who process my request said I would get a call from the contractor, Curtis Repair, to set up an appointment. I was also given their number to contact them if I did not hear from them soon. I waited a few hours and no call, so I called the company myself to see if I could expedite getting an appointment set up for that day and I received no answer.

    So, I called AHS back to let them know that the company seems to be closed and the rep said I will have to wait until they are open on Monday. I let the rep know I could not wait that long due to the severity of my child's condition and the need to get AC working quickly or we would be forced to leave our home and pay money for a hotel. The rep told me that since they already sent the request to Curtis repair, they can not take the request back and send another contractor that was open on weekends....because I stated it was an emergency, I would think the rep would know that I need someone out that day, so assign me a contractor that was open on Saturdays, but they didn't and we was forced to get a hotel to keep from having my son's health affected.

    Once the repair guy from Curtis Repair came out on that following Monday, 9/9/19, he was at our home a total of 5-10 minutes before he told us we needed to just change our filters and that we would need freon before next Summer and he then left....no paperwork/service order/invoice showing what he did or recommend we have done was left with us. Because he was only there a short time, I told my husband I do not think he checked or did a full diagnostic of the system to ensure there was not other factors affecting the AC and he did not wait to see if the temperature changed or everything was up an running smoothly, that seemed weird, but I figured he knew what he was doing.

    That same day, we went to Home Depot and paid about $15 for the filters, took them home and put them in. The air seemed to flow better and cool the house overnight. That next week, we were back to square one....NO AC! So that right there tells me, he could not have checked everything. I contacted AHS to request a recall and while I was on hold, the rep reached out to see if Curtis repair was available to return to our home that day. They received no answer, so they placed us in a queue for emergencies and a day later, we finally received a call back from Curtis Repair to schedule a visit for 9/20/19. The technician was the same guy who came the first time and over the phone he said it sounded like a blower issue. It was last minute, so I had to leave work to meet him at our home to get the repairs done.

    When he arrived, few hours later than the original appointment time, again, he was in our house about 5-10 minutes, did not even go outside to check the unit, just when down to the basement to check the blower. He came back and got me from upstairs to look at what he had to do, he opened the damper up, so air would flow upstairs. The air was definitely flowing up harder, not cool at that moment, but I figured when I came back home later, the house should be cool.

    Once again, the technician leaves without giving me any paperwork explaining what he did or what he recommends....he left so fast! I went back to work and returned later that evening to find that the house had not cooled down any, in fact it was a degree hotter than what it was earlier that day. I was so upset and frustrated! It was late, so I waited and called AHS first thing in the morning 9/21/19 and initially spoke with an agent who pretty much told me that I would have to have the same company come out for this recall and he proceeded to contacted them while I was on hold....when he returned to the call, he said that the contractor, Curtis Repair, said they would not return because we refused the freon the first 2 times, which was not true, and went on to say their diagnosis was freon.

    I let the rep know that what they were being told by the contractor was not true and that the technician sent to our home did not even leave paperwork/service order/invoice stating anything he was saying and that he did not tell us that the issue was low freon, in fact, he told us we would just need more before the next Summer of 2020. I let the rep know that I did not want that contractor returning to my home, because each time he has given incorrect information of the issues, did not thoroughly diagnose the unit for other issues and was not professional in ensuring everything was good prior to leaving our home.

    I requested, they send another contractor and ASAP, as we were in desperate need to have the AC fixed that day. The rep said he couldn't send another company because I would incur an additional $100 service fee if the "supposed diagnosis of low freon" from Curtis repair is the same diagnosis as the new company. I said how is that fair when Curtis Repair has not lifted a tool to repair anything and they just told us what we needed to go spend additional money on and a knob to twist to open/close the damper. I was not getting anywhere with the rep, so I requested his supervisor who said she would help me, but only made my frustration worse. She says that Curtis Repair is only willing to return to our home if we agree to pay the non-covered expenses of getting freon. I said fine, I will get the freon if they are now claiming this is what's going to solve the issue.

    She calls them and they say they are not able to come that day and that they are not going to come until Tuesday. I let her know that was not acceptable and that it was an emergency and a new contractor needs to be sent that day and if they did not place this as an emergency to get someone out to our house right away, I was going to contact corporate about my treatment and this matter overall and seek service with another warranty company. Even with saying that, she did not budge to try and ease my concerns and get the issue fixed in my favor.

    I was so FURIOUS! I ended the call with her, telling her that I will now have to contact a contractor myself, which would be more money spent, to get our AC fixed before we could spend another night in our home. I immediately located a company that was available 24/7 and who placed me right on the schedule to be taken care of within a couple hours. They treated me like I was important enough and mattered! The company just so happens to be contracted with AHS, which I found out when the technician arrived. The company is Greenway Home Services and they were AWESOME! The technician engaged us the entire time he was in our home, explaining everything he was doing, the details, so we understood what needed to be done and what the tools he was using actually did.

    He was there maybe and hour to an hour and a half. He thoroughly checked and diagnosed the unit (outside and inside) and provided details of the issue, the reading from his machines used and how what needed to be replaced worked. Showed us the old part and what it currently read and what the new part read. Turns out it was NOT FREON like Curtis Repair "claimed was their diagnosis", in fact it was the Capacitor that needed to be replaced and he also let us know that the FREON WAS PERFECT.

    The technician also waited around to ensure the air was coming out cool and that the pressure was good. He thoroughly check EVERYTHING, was engaging, made sure we understood everything he did/checked, was professional and polite....treated us like we was his family, with urgency, respect, care, compassion and empathy! If I decide to stay with AHS, I will ensure to request Greenway for any of our HVAC needs that may arise.

    Before the technician left, he gave us an invoice that detailed everything he did and any recommendations. I had to pay their service fee and cost of the part replacement, for a total of $179.95. Once he left, I immediately contacted AHS back letting them know that the diagnosis Curtis Repair gave was incorrect, that our AC was now fixed, by a company they actually are contracted with, and that I needed to file a grievance and have my $100 service fee paid to them refunded due to the fact that the contractor they sent provided in accurate information, did not properly diagnosis our AC unit and that the service was overall VERY POOR and the treatment I received from first to last call with AHS was HORRIBLE!

    I am now out $279.95, which is payment for services that is covered under my warranty, but since I had to find someone myself because the AHS reps would not, I had to spend out of pocket. It is only fair that I be reimbursed at the least the cost of the part ($100) and the service fee I had to pay for Curtis Repair to even come out and they did nothing! I am sending this review to corporate and I am now waiting to receive a call back from the AHS contractor affairs department. Hopefully, I am able to get this resolved to my satisfaction and be refunded and reimbursed the total of $200. If not, I will definitely be leaving AHS and signing with a new home warranty company.

They have the absolute WORST customer service and show no concern of having it repaired. I don't understand how they remain in business with such poor practices. They should be ashamed of themselves.     Mister Plumber did a great job but I didn't know that a stoppage in my drain in my bathroom wasn't covered by American Home Shield. The plumber had to use a snake and I paid him 250 plus. He wouldn't take a check and I didn't have cash, so I gave him my credit card and it went through. Then when I called AHS to try to get reimbursed the $75 that I paid upfront, they wouldn't reimburse it. My wife and I were pissed. They didn't give me my money back when they should’ve. I've been with AHS for a long time and I have their service contract every year. But a customer like me who has been loyal with AHS can't get a credit. I like to stay with what I have unless it’s terrible service. I can always go to somebody else.

    I had an issue with the light over the shower. It was really not a big issue, but it was just something that was kinda silly because I changed the bulb in it one day, and then the next morning, it just popped off. And it never has done that before. The way it snapped, I thought it was gonna catch fire because of the way it did it and it was right above shower. So, I shut it off and I called American Home Shield, and they sent out Turner Electric & Lighting. The interaction was great. They were very good, on time and very professional. The tech came out and he checked all the wiring and figured out what was going on. The wiring was fine. And it was just because of the incandescent bulb up there over the shower which shouldn’t have been there. The tech said they get too hot.

    AHS's claims submission went fine. You don’t really have a say on how important the claim is when you put it in. You can’t tell them, “Okay, look I have no refrigerator. This thing’s not working.” You just have to put in the claim. And I don’t really care for that part of it because you can’t say anything. And when you’re trying to put it in online, there’s no way to vocalize, “I have no use. This is urgent. I need somebody out like right now. And so, then you have to try to call the contractor once you find out who it’s assigned to, and then of course, they can’t fit you in. And that’s like pulling teeth trying to get the contractor to move you into a schedule, to get you in there. Nobody seems to give a darn that you need something.

    When my refrigerator went out, which was just recent, I was going into surgery the next day and I was on physical restrictions. I had no freezer, no refrigerator and it was ridiculous. Thank god my son who lives a mile away had some ice chests. And so, he came over and put things in ice chest. The doctor told me I was going outpatient surgery for removal of a cyst in the lining of my stomach, and when I came out the next day, he put me on zero lifting. It turned out that the cyst was a tumor and that they had to take a portion of my stomach. And so, when I came home that day, he told my son and my daughter-in-law that I can’t lift anything and that I'm off for the next 10 days. The doctor said, “Well, she’s living outta ice chests till she gets this fixed." But the AHS contractor couldn’t come out right away so my son tried to set the ice chest up on this bench, so I could get into things.

    It took AHS a couple of days to come out and I had to fight with them. They said, “Well, we’ll do a one-time thing to pay for a mini fridge.” So, my son went down to Walmart. I had to pay and I’m still waiting for reimbursement on the mini fridge. They said, “Well, send a receipt to this email and we’ll pay up to $125.” I did and I still don’t have reimbursement. It was a huge hassle. They need to just send me the money. I shouldn’t have to go through this. When I got a response back, it said up to 21 days. They better pay me back because it cost me more than $125, but all I’m gonna get is $125. So, I had this mini fridge, and then a few days later, A & R Appliance came out. It took them a couple of trips. They had to order some parts, and they had to fix the refrigerant lines, and then replaced some part on the front of my fridge.

    About a week total, it got fixed finally. The first guy that came out for my refrigerator tried to tell me it was because there was dust underneath. He said, “You have pets?” I said, “Oh, my dogs are outside right now.” But he goes, “You need to clean under this all the time.” He said something about customer neglect. And I said, “Excuse me?” It was a young kid that was fairly new at the company. And whenever the next guy came out, I complained to him about it. I said, “I do not appreciate hearing customer neglect. I clean my house.” And he goes, “Oh, I’m sorry. He’s fairly new.” And I said, “Well, he needs to watch what he’s saying.”

    Finally, my refrigerator was taken care of. The first guy was complaining because my refrigerator was big, it was in a tight spot, he didn’t wanna move it out. And then he told the guy that he called into, that the problem was the compressor, which was not. The other guy came out a day or two later and said it was the refrigerant lines. He replaced those, he tested the compressor, and it was fine. And then he ordered some other part, and came back a few days later, and fixed that part finally. It was a nightmare. I was sick this whole time and when I had to call in to find out if they could move this up, the gal on the phone was rude. I couldn’t talk. I had surgery, and I had tubes down my throat, so it was the day after my surgery and I was trying to talk. I had my phone on speaker and she said, “Well, you can stop yelling at me.” I said, “I’m not yelling at you.”

    I finally got the ref fixed. The guy finally came out. He wasn’t too happy to have to come back out, but he did. And if there’s any more problems, he said to just call and they’ll come out and fix it. I like American Home Shield however, I’m unhappy with some of the contractors that they send out. I’m a little frustrated with them. Overall, the contractors were okay but if they’re gonna continue to pick up work from American Home Shield, then they need to accommodate a little better and be a little more professional. When somebody tells them that they’re in a hospital or going in a hospital, they should be willing to move the appointment up.

    There have been a couple of times when American Home Shield sent contractors out here that didn’t do the work properly. When I went back and tried to get it done properly, like with my air conditioner, I had to go through a big fiasco. I was unhappy about that. But when my pool pump went out, American Home Shield sent out ABNation and they did a good job. They were professional. I did this claim on the internet and the website was good.     I have an air conditioning problem going on for two years. Air & Water Solutions recently came and they were great. I didn’t have a problem with them. But the company that came out before them, All Temp Heating & Cooling in North Haven, Connecticut, is a fraudulent company, and they’re scamming American Home Shield and their customers. They would say that they would do stuff but they never did. They would submit claims to American Home Shield, take my deductible, and bill American Home Shield.

    They said they were gonna submit a claim to replace my whole unit because the whole thing was ruined, but they submitted a claim to repair the fuse. So, we were waiting for almost a month to get a whole new unit. But the contractor still to this day hasn’t returned anyone’s phone calls. I was gonna contact a bunch of people just because this guy is going around screwing people and the insurance company out of money ‘cause he’s billing them for services that he’s not doing. And American Home Shield’s not doing anything about it.

    So, American Home Shield finally sent out this most recent company, Air & Water Solutions. They came out the other day and said that the first contractor never did what he said he did. He said, “Your unit is compromised because we have no idea what these people did.” Then, Air & Water Solutions repaired stuff in a week. So, I looked up on Better Business Bureau the previous company and saw that there are repeated claims against this company. Yet American Home Shield still uses them, and they’re continuing to scam American Home Shield. It is absolutely terrible. I spent hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars filling up my AC with Freon that never happened, and American Home Shield won’t make it right. It is absolutely terrible.

    I also have a huge problem with American Home Shield. My wife and I have been calling, complaining, making sure we’re on a recorded line but no one will address our complaints. It was the worst experience. My wife as a Realtor sells hundreds of these policies to potential buyers since it’s like an aid to help close on a deal. She made it very clear during our complaint that she would not be representing American Home Shield anymore. She has about 50 agents in her office and they would not be recommending American Home Shield because of the way they handled our claim.

    AHS is absolutely terrible. If you have a problem with something, they can dispatch and get someone else to fix something. But when there is something wrong like this kind of situation, they don’t have the means to handle or process it. When you ask to speak to a manager, they refuse to let you speak to management. After the job was completed, I’ve put so many comments about them detailing my experiences but no one’s called me. These guys should be in jail.

    Our house is set up all weird with all the electrical light switches not working and two or three light switches goes to one light. I had just moved in and American Home Shield said, “We can come out there and look at it.” I can only do one claim and I have to wait a month to submit the other one or to do it again because I couldn’t do two at one time.     The gas got turned off. And so, the gas company came to turn everything back on. The person that came from the gas company indicated that there might be a problem, and that I should get it checked out. I wanted to get a check, just like a regular maintenance check done on my furnace. So, I had that happen and a guy said I needed a whole new furnace. American Home Shield called me back and said whatever reason he put down that I needed the furnace wasn’t covered. So, they said that I should get a second opinion.

    The second person that came out said the furnace was essentially fine. He cleaned some stuff, and he checked it out again and turned it on and looked at everything a second time, and he said it was fine. The second person was great. The first person seemed like he was pretty good too. My furnace was really old, so I don’t know if he just thought, because it was old, I needed a new one. The first time I filed the claim, it took a while for the contractor to come out. I had scheduled it pretty far out in advance. But they contacted me within 24 hours.

    The condenser had gone kaput and it wasn’t turning on at all. When this all happened, it was 102 degrees in the afternoon and in five minutes, I submitted the claim to American Home Shield which was about as long as the time it took me to get on the website and figure out who to call. The claims rep understood what the problem was and said that they would assign someone to it. This was at 10 o'clock at night and at 9 o'clock the next morning, someone called me and scheduled the appointment for the servicemen. The contractor was fine. He had to drive a long way, but that was the nature of his beast anyway. He made a quick diagnosis. He had the part on his vehicle, he put it in and it started running. He was done within 20 minutes.     In all the years, since 2007, that we've had American Home Shield, the contractors came within the time they said they would come. In the beginning, I think it was always later, like at that end of that time, but now, it's more like they come early. They say the time they're gonna be here and it's always within that time. I would recommend them.

    It was very good with Premier Appliance Repair who came out for the stovetop. The stovetop wasn't heating right, like a few of the burners were on and off, would work and then wouldn't.     One day, the AC started giving me hot air and we’re in Arizona, so that was a problem. I requested AHS for a service and the techs came right away. I loved that. They came very promptly and it took them a half hour to be up there. There were some wires that had burnt and they fixed that.     I live in Kansas and it is mid September, still 90+ degrees outside. I came home from a trip with my wife and kids to discover our air conditioner had a malfunction. I made a claim with AHS (Friday), paid the $100 fee and a contractor was assigned and came to the house on late Monday. The house was around 89 degrees by then. The contractor came to the house, told me the condenser was bad and left. I heard from AHS on Wednesday saying the replacement had been approved. The contractor arrived around 4 pm on Saturday to replace the part.

    Meanwhile the house was around 91 degrees by then. Luckily I have amazing neighbors that let us stay in their home while mine continued to bake for over a week, take note in your contract where it states "Upon your request, AHS will determine if expedited services are necessary and available, and will make reasonable efforts to expedite services accordingly. Additional fees may apply."

    I made this request when the air conditioner went bad and AHS just gave me a "We'll do what we can" reply. I would make a strong assumption nothing was done on their part to expedite these services. My wife called me after the contractor arrived and said the thermostat needed to be replaced. I asked her, "Why would a thermostat need to be replaced if the condenser is being replaced?" The contractor said "because this system doesn't speak with the thermostat." I quickly drove home to see what was happening.

    When I arrived the contractor was replacing the $600 Carrier Infinity thermostat with a $15 Emerson thermostat, why would he do that to just replace a condenser?! Come to discover he was replacing the entire outside unit, current unit was a 4 year old Carrier Infinity unit with a SEER 17 rating with a bottom of the line Lennox unit with a SEER 13 rating. He told me that's what American Home Shield ordered! Take note of the fine print in your contracts people, American Home Shield will screw you over at every turn they can. If you have nice appliances, they will (and have from my experience) replace them with the cheapest ones they can.

I would go online, but sometimes I need to schedule for them to call a different number, like a renter. So, if I need special assistance, then I would call in.     My hot water heater and the heat pump both went out at the same time. My renter said he smelled something was burning. And then, he shut the water heater off. And then at the same time, the heat pump quit cooling, or it wasn’t cooling very good. And then he said the next day, it completely quit working, which was really weird they both happened at once.

    I filed a claim with AHS and the first time the contractor came I was there for a while, and then the people came and I left. The heat pump guy was good. But the hot water guys were just a little different. The renter said something about them being unprofessional and how they were just frustrated with everything about the job because it was hard to do and hard to get to.

He didn’t communicate what was going on with us, so I ended up finding a back way to navigate the whole American Home Shield process to get the answers I wanted. I made calls because I was trying to find out what was going with it, and I couldn’t get ahold of anybody that knew.     The washing machine was having a problem. The transmission went out on it and I did the claim over the phone with an American Home Shield agent. The contractor himself did a really good job. It was just very time consuming because the first time he came out, he had to order a part. Then when the parts arrive a week later, he came out to install them, and it broke by the next morning. It was the first time we used it again.

    One of the screws on the agitator broke, and he had to come back to look at it, and then order a part again. So, we were at least three weeks out of a washing machine. We had to go to the washateria quite a few times during that timeframe. But it's been working really good since he got it finally figured out. American Home Shield has a good program, but I didn't like having to pay out of pocket the first time. As soon as we called in, we had to pay our deductible. They said I had to pay it before they issue the service order and send the technician out. It should be taken after a good experience.

    I have AHS in a rental property and it took them almost a week to resolve the issue on the stove. So, I had to tell my tenants that they couldn’t cook for a week from the gas stove because there was an issue with it. But they understood that it was through American Home Shield and they made it work. When you’re paying rent and you can’t cook in your house, a week is a long time and I was getting nervous that they were gonna start giving me some food bills.

    But the techs that AHS sent out provided great customer service. They were very professional with their work. I didn’t really get to see them but from what I heard, all the calls that I got from them were really good. They answered quickly to the call and the first guy that went out was awesome, too. As soon as he called me, he made it a point to really go there and he was super accommodating. I would love to hire him privately, if I could. They’re supposed to bring the stove today and so far, my experience has been excellent.

    I also spoke with a rep from AHS the other day and she was phenomenal. She had a nice way of talking and settling. And the way she conducted herself was soothing, accommodating, and professional. I loved my experience with her. All in all, I've been with AHS for three years now and they've been good. I used to belong to another company but I didn't like my experience with them so I changed to American Home Shield. And so far, they have been pretty fast. I’m really happy with them and I would recommend them.

    Knock Out Pools came out for our spa after we filed a claim with American Home Shield. They did well. They responded very timely and were on time. When they're scheduled a time, they were right on time, and he took care of the problem that day. I did the claim online. I like it. It's usually pretty quick to submit the claim, and you don't have to spend much time online doing it, whereas if I call, I have to wait before I reached someone. And it seems like they ask more question when they do online. I would recommend them.

    I liked the contractor from GE Appliances who came out for my refrigerator that was not getting cold. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online. It was easy to go online and to enter all that information. And then, they called me back the same day and set up the appointment, so it was fine. The contractor came out and figured out what the issue was and corrected it. He did all that inside that one trip. He had to change out the coil and a couple of filters and something else, and he went over everything that was the matter with it. Since the repair, the fridge has been working fine.

    In the beginning of this year, I called American Home Shield to file a claim and they were probably too busy and forgot to send someone. Also, before sending someone, AHS would charge $75 and then the contractor would come here. In April, the contractor came and looked but didn’t do anything. We already paid the money. They said that it was a lifetime warranty and they should not have to do anything. They should at least call and order parts that they were changing. So, he left and I called the company. They sent us some other people and the same thing happened. So, the third time, I said that it wasn’t right. I told them that it has been a headache. I kept calling for two months and complained that they come and fix it.

    Since that time when the summer issue happened, I would tell people not to go to AHS and that I was very disappointed. But they corrected it and this time, I called the 1-800 number of American Home Shield to file the claim for the AC and the rep said they would send someone and they did. The contractor came and my husband told him that he didn’t have to waste time to check since we already knew what was going on. He checked directly and then fixed everything back to normal in a short time. He was good.

    I called AHS about our refrigerator and the first contractor came and looked at it but didn't come back. And then the last contractor from Lacrosse Home Services called and said what the time frame was, and he came out. He was nice and very professional. I actually liked it because he said he could fix it. And it was an older refrigerator made in the 60's. I like them, and personally, if I had to use them again, I would. I like them better than ABC Service. ABC was working on the refrigerator that was still covered by them when I purchased it. They couldn’t even fix the ice maker.

    For several years now, I've had coverage with American Home Shield. I called them when the pool motor burned out and got a rep who was good. The same can be said about the technician who came. For this particular claim, things went well and American Home Shield did a pretty good job. But I had two other claims that I wasn’t really happy with. One was for my dishwasher and I had to pay three different times before the technicians got it right. The dishwasher seems to be working well now. I also had a Jacuzzi problem. Technicians came out but they couldn't fix it. I had to hire an electrician to fix that. Those two claims weren't good experiences.

    I recently had a plumbing claim with American Home Shield. The coils were out. It wouldn't heat the hot water tank. The AHS reps were very professional. They did an excellent job. Hoosier Plumbing did fine, too. They were good. I've been with American Home Shield for 14 years. I don't like changes, and I'm happy where I'm at. The only trouble is the price keeps going up, and one of these days, maybe it'll come back down.

    I was excited to switch over to this company because of all of the amazing reviews they had. However I have been so dishearten and disappointed at each step. We had a plumbing issue occur in our house, and prior to contacting American Home Shield, I contacted a local plumber. He came to our house and diagnosed the problem for us. After having that diagnosis, I contacted American Home Shield, where I spoke to two different customer service agents. Both verified for me that the work I needed done was in fact covered under my contract. Based on that, I paid their service fee, and scheduled to have a plumber come out through them. Their plumber came out, confirmed the diagnosis of the previous plumber I had come out.

    However, I then received a call from American Home Shield stating that the work needed was not covered under my contract. I was shocked and surprised because I had been told that it was in fact covered. When I explained the situation, the woman told me to call customer service and ask for a review. I was extremely frustrated because I had now missed work to have the plumber come out, and they now couldn't do the work. I called on Monday (same day this all occurred), submitted the complaint and asked for the review. I was told that they would have someone review the calls, and if in fact they had told me it was covered under my contract, they would pay for the work. I was also told that I would receive a call within 24/48 hours with their findings.

    I called on Monday and when Thursday came around and I still had not received a call, I decided to call. When I called Thursday, I asked to speak with a supervisor (which I was placed on hold for over 30 minutes waiting). When I spoke with a supervisor, he did not have any answers, but told me he didn't know why there was no finding, and that it would now be escalated to him. He stated he would call me the next day, Friday, to update me and give me more information. He also stated that they wouldn't cover the work needed regardless of the finding (differing from what I was told) and that I could only get my service fee back.

    It is now Saturday, and I never received a call back from the supervisor. I am beyond frustrated with this company. Each person I talk to tells me something different, and they never follow through on their word. As a homeowner we purchased this so that we could feel protected, and rely on this company when we needed something fixed. We are now left feeling like we can't trust this company, what their employees say, or for them to follow through and help. I had recommended my brother and co-worker to switch to this company, however I have since rescinded that due to this experience.

    Our A/C system needed to be replaced while having a home warranty with American Home Shield. When American Home Shield would send out repairmen they would only get authorization to add Freon to the A/C unit. The repairman sent out stated that the system did need replacement but American Home Shield would not authorize it. This happened during the summer of 2009 and the summer of 2010. The fall of 2010 our policy expired and American Home Shield would not renew our policy. A year later we had to pay for the full replacement of our A/C system.

    Updated on 11/06/2019: You will pay over $800 a year. $75 dollar service fee each time you need help. We are over 10 appointments on HVAC now. They will make it work for at least 30 days, and charge you another service fee after the 30 days. Between hours lost at work (4 hour windows), annual fees, service fees, and what AHS has paid out, we have paid for more than 2 brand new systems. After years and years with them, I did get a new $100 dollar garbage disposal that has lasted (we never use it).

    You will also spend A LOT of time on hold. I suggest clicking the option for new member. They answer right away. I guess new members are more valuable than those of us who are paying salaries. Loyal customers are "expected", not appreciated. We have some time left on this contract so hopefully we can find a more appreciative company. That's how it is nowadays; people expect you to appreciate them for letting you pay them.

    Original Review: Patience (and disposable income) are important with this warranty. It is very expensive and your policy is not the only cost. You will pay $75 every time someone comes to your home. For me, the average wait time on the phone when you call is over 30 minutes. My AC has had problems for nearly two years. We have had many, many appointments (at least 15), and here I sit yet again with no AC, in Louisiana.

    Our AC was out for the entire month of July last year. Ensure you factor the amount of money you could potentially lose in hours lost from work while waiting on technicians to come to your home (four hour windows at least). Between what they have spent, and what I have spent (lost), we could have purchased two entirely new AC systems. If you ever want to elevate an issue to management, good luck. I haven't figured that one out yet. The company's management is well guarded, to say the least. So anyway, like I stated, make sure you have disposable income and time when considering a home warranty.

    They claimed 24hr emergency support. They use call centers essentially to screen and deflect people with legitimately covered problems. We have had no support whatsoever, just the runaround after runaround for hours after calling in for assistance when their contractor flooded our basement... and the original leak still wasn't resolved. We are filing a formal complaint with the department of Insurance and seeking legal action for damages because that is the only way we can think of to get an actual straight answer out of this company. To say I am disappointed would be an insult to the word disappointed.

    The vent above my range was malfunctioning. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and their website was easy to navigate. I remember it saying I’d hear from a contractor within 24 hours. The contractor came out to take a look at the issue, if not 24 hours, at least the next business day. However, when he came out, I couldn't find the key. It was on the other half of my house, so he left. When I found it, he came right back. He took a look at the vent and there was a leak, a roofing problem that needs to get taken care of as well. So, the vent was not fixed entirely yet because I need to fix this leak problem and that is not included in my warranty. I've had American Home Shield when I bought this house a year ago. The seller had paid for it as a part of the sale for the first year.     The contractor came out for the first time, determined what the part was for the refrigerator and then, they came back and brought the new part out but that didn't fix it. The next time they came out, they had the right part and that seemed to be working but then, there was another part that was making intermittent noise. They had to take the thing apart and determined that it was a fan, and then, he ran out of time that day and couldn’t reassemble it. He came back, fixed it and reassembled the interior of the fridge. Since then, it has been working fine but it took almost five weeks to fix. It was not the fault of the contractor. It’s just the whole process was drawn-out. Still, I’m satisfied with my experience with AHS.

    I've been with American Home Shield since April and it was recommended to me by my Realtor. She had used them in the past and had customers that have had problems, and they were very happy with them. One time, I called American Home Shield at 10 o'clock at night to file a claim, and there was someone there to take my order. The rep took my complaint and entered it into their database and told me right then and there who would be coming out the very next morning. I was given a phone number so I could call the contractor myself as well, and the AHS rep made sure I was informed every step of the way. She even called me back the next morning and assured me that someone would be coming that day for us.

    The AHS rep who helped me did a good job. However, the phone number to the company that was given to me was the wrong phone number. I got a lady who told me that she gets that call on a regular basis, and she doesn't know why AHS reps are giving out her personal number. I contacted American Home Shield right away the next morning and let them know about that. They looked into that and sent my request over by email this time instead of by phone. The rep said they have deleted the number from their records and they're going to try to locate their new number. She called me back a couple of hours later and told me that the problem with phone number was resolved and the contractor would be out on that day.

    That morning, I went online to get the correct number, called the contractor and they had somebody there by 1 o'clock the next day because it was 102 degrees in Alabama. With no AC, that's not a good thing especially when you have allergies and asthma. The service guy did a great job of fixing the AC in 20 minutes and we had air conditioning again. It was perfect.

    We’ve been with American Home Shield for 12 years and they ended up fixing at least one thing a year that sort of covers the cost of having the insurance. I normally submit my claims on the phone and the customer service is fine but some people they have in their network are not necessarily good. Magic Appliance, the contractor, had to come back about six times. Three different people came and they had to come each time to see what was wrong. But then, when they came back the next time, they didn't bring the correct part. The machine was too old and they didn't have that part anymore. At the end of the day, the machine was still not fixed. They gave us kind of a workaround.

    There was another part that was not working, like the buttons on the top, and that part doesn't exist anymore. We were not sure if it was time for a new machine, or if we were supposed to just live with this dishwasher that’s only working so-so. They were very nice, but I had to call, very frustrated, a few times to say that I didn't want someone else to come out here that doesn't know what they're doing. They sent the top guy, and he knew the machine really well but those things couldn’t be fixed. They did what they should do. AHS called the company back and reassigned them on a recall. They didn't charge us for all those times that they were coming back.

    I just had another thing with my plumbing, and that was frustrating because I called, and it was the faucet on the sink that was leaking underneath. I told AHS that I wanna know if this was gonna be covered if someone comes out, and they told me it was gonna be covered. The guy came out, and he told us that it needed to be replaced, and that they wouldn’t be covered. So, I called AHS back and said that I wanted my $75 or whatever it is back, which they said okay and they would take care of it. I took off work to be here for the guy to come, and I was very specific about saying that I didn't want a service call if this was not gonna be covered. I didn't need someone to come and tell me that it needs to be replaced. I know it needs to be replaced. Nevertheless, I’m satisfied with AHS.

    The motor on the dryer stopped working and I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. The contractor was there within a few days and they were great. They had to go back and get approval from AHS. The technician felt that the whole unit was gonna get replaced but they said to just replace the motor. So, they ordered the part and he replaced it. Then with the new motor in there, everything was clanking because all that stuff was just as old as the motor. So, he had to go back again and get that approved through AHS. He came out and replaced those, and it seems to be working fine since.

    I was without a dryer for a week and a half but it wasn't as long as the upstairs air that I was without for three weeks. That happened at the same time. AHS failed to tell me that they would pay up to $150 to get a portable cooler. I wasn't told that until a day or so before the contractor actually came out to replace the part. So I was really unhappy with that with American Home Shield. Felix Home Appliance was great and I had no issues in getting the air conditioner done with them but with American Home Shield, I couldn't get answers and I literally was left on hold with them for almost two hours for one day.

    I just reopened a claim with American Home Shield. I'm having the same issues with the freezer. Last night, I went to get some ice cream out of the freezer. I have four containers of ice cream in there and they were all soft. I don’t buy a lot of meat, but I do have a few things in there. So, I put it on power freeze to see if I could make it colder for the time being. So, it’s better, but I’m sure it’s not working right. So, I called in last night. I’m still within the 60 days but I couldn’t really get anything done last night. So then, I called again this morning and reopened the old claim. Sears was great. But then, after Sears had been here and pretty much handled everything, AHS sent out a different contractor called CD’s. They really didn’t do anything, and they weren’t very helpful. So, I don’t really wanna deal with them with this reopening of the claim. I’d rather go with Sears again.

    I called AHS and then after I told her everything that was going on, she said that I would have to call back today because Sears was closed. So then, after I spoke with her, I went online and I filed the claim on my own. But then this morning when I got up, I saw that it said that CD’s would contact me, and I thought, “I don’t want CD’s to contact me.” So then I called in this morning again, and the lady I spoke with canceled what I had done online and she did a new one. I’m still waiting for somebody to call me to schedule service. So, that’s where it is right now. Because it is the freezer, it’s kind of urgent. I don’t want everything to go bad in there.

    Also, I'm not too pleased with the foreign agents. They’re very sweet and nice, and I don’t have any complaints about their handling of the call. It’s just that there always seems to be a little bit of a language barrier there. It’s a little bit frustrating when you’re trying to convey something that’s kind of urgent, and their efforts would be so nice, and I'm sure they don’t mean to, but they’re a little frustrating.

    The freezer was not freezing solidly so the ice cream was always mushy, and then the ice maker stopped making ice. I submitted the claim online and the website left a little to be desired, but for a simple repair that you can describe easily, it’s fine. When the contractor came out, they finally authorized a repair to have the compressor replaced. We've emptied the freezer in the fridge completely and they noticed that the light inside the freezer has exploded and melted a bunch of stuff. The diagnostic was there was a short somewhere and we would never find the short anywhere with all this going on so they just said that they were gonna replace it or give us a cash buyout. We got a new refrigerator, and we upgraded it and took it. It was a process, but ultimately, the ending was happy.

    I use American Home Shield because I started using them when I opened my business in 1992, so they're who I know. All warranty companies have a communication problem. I'm sitting on hold for 30 minutes at a time, and then, the right hand and the left hand, but that's just part of their process, whether it's American Home Shield or whomever. And I have a local rep that I know personally, so that helps me. So, generally American Home Shield is a well-known company, but there are others.

    I filed a claim to AHS for my AC and the first guy that AHS sent out was very rude, aggressive, abrasive and tried to intimidate me. I had to ask him to leave. AHS understood and said that they would send another company out. They happened to have a guy right in the area, and it was the same day. Two guys showed up. They were perfect and did everything right. They were in and out and got it fixed. It was just a little part that probably didn’t even need the $100 deductible. But they were so good, it was night and day. However, the AHS rep said there wouldn’t be another $100 fee, but for some reason, I got something in the mail the other day that said I owed $100, and I paid the $100 the first time.

    American Home Shield has been very quick and very receptive to our need. So, we’ve been very pleased. Jerry’s Mechanical came out for the air conditioning for the unit outside because it’s been making ridiculously horrible noises. They said that the motor was warbling in there so it needs replacement, but that American Home Shield tends to not replace until the things totally burn out. They kinda put you off until that time. They were gonna put in the claim to American Home Shield, and I never heard back. So, we need to get on that today.

    I've been with American Home Shield in this house for about four years since we’ve owned it. I still have American Home Shield on a rental that I own in Chandler, Arizona. So, I’ve had it a very long time. I’ve had that one on probably 20 years. For the most part, they’ve been on top of things there. I submit claims both on the phone and online. They quickly respond with the appropriate professional to come out, and they put the phone number down. So, generally, I call the service myself and set up an appointment, and that’s worked out really well. But when it’s something more challenging than a toilet running, it’s a fight every time for who’s responsible. So, that’s a major problem. When it costs big money, they're gone, argue their way out, and read the fine print.

    The guy from Baskett’s Repair came in, checked our fridge and dishwasher, and he told us that there’d be too much to repair, so he said that we’d have to get new ones. He was great.     A friend of mine found American Home Shield and I’ve been with them since June. It was kinda hard to get and to talk to a person when I submitted the claim because of the voicemail system that they have set up. They want you to do it over that system which is a norm these days. Me being older, I prefer to talk to a person to tell them what I want so that I know it will be done that way but AHS was very helpful. I had to call back and add something to my order because the plumbing company said I needed to put three different things on my order or else they may charge me more. They added it so, it was alright.

    The contractor wasn’t very talkative but as long as he did the job, it wasn’t important. We just told him the problem and he fixed it. There was one bolt left unscrewed under the kitchen sink, and my brother tightened it up because it had just started leaking. It was done by hand so it wasn’t necessary to call them back for that. Overall, they were fine. They came on time and I would recommend AHS.

But the contractors have had to come out two times on the thermostat. I’ve been with them for about two years and I typically like to talk to somebody when making claims and the service has been good from the rep. I've never had any bad experience but just to have a technician come look at something, you're paying whether or not they had to fix it or not. I wish it was a little bit more different such that if it turns out you don't need the service, they would charge me whatever it cost to get the person to come out.     American Home Shield has been great, but multiple people communicating take time. For the most part, the reps are knowledgeable. But sometimes, I’ve had claims escalated because there's a communication barrier. The contractors have been great as well, though I’ve had a contractor or two that either didn’t show up or didn't diagnose the problem correctly.

    They've already completed the work that was done on the dishwasher, but I have work being done on my air conditioner, and I have work being done on my heater. I went out and bought other individual AC units because the heat wave was tremendous this year. There was a period of time when I had my 88-year-old mother living here, and I couldn't have her living in a 90-degree house. But the dishwasher has run very smoothly. The techs came out and said, “This is the part that it needs, but unfortunately, the part is no longer available.” Within days, they gave me a list of dishwashers to choose from to order, and the installers did a great job of installing it. I’ve already recommended AHS to a couple of friends.

    My most recent claim with American Home Shield on the washer did not go very well. The contractor didn't fix anything. They came out three times. The first time they came out, the original problem was a water leak. They found the clamp was off. They installed the clamp back on. As soon as they walked out, we started the washing and it leaked right back again. I called again, and they took a couple of days to get back with me, to come and take a look at it, and they said it was some type of bearing stuff. So, they started to order the bearings, and then the bearings weren't ordered. Apparently, they were going to buy the washer if they can't fix it. I think that was the process, and I said, "No, I want the parts replaced." Apparently, they didn't get approval for them to order the parts.

    I waited a little bit again for them to come back and put the parts. They came out yesterday supposedly with the parts, and they walked away and I turned it back on and it leaked. So, we're right back where we started. I have no washing machine. The contractors are waiting for approval to see what the next step is. I'm waiting to hear back from them. This wasn't a very good experience.

They had to replace the air handler ‘cause the evaporator was leaking, and they had come out prior to replace Freon, which was when the tech found out it was leaking. When they came out the next time, they had to release all of the Freon. Once they fixed the problem, they went ahead and added 10 pounds. They did a good job on it.

    We had a backed-up sink upstairs and we used the toll-free number to call American Home Shield to submit the claim. We got a message telling us when to expect the contractor. He was good and we had an excellent interaction. He explained exactly what he was gonna need to do, what was covered by American Home Shield, and what potentially he might have to do that wouldn’t be covered. He asked us what we wanted him to do to proceed and then, he was done within about an hour. He was clean when he came in and he cleaned up after himself when he was done working so, I got no complaints at all. The problem hasn’t come back since and he told us what to do to make sure that it continues to keep that pipe clean.

    Overall, the experience with AHS was good. We had some claims that were handled better than others, but usually, those were related not so much to American Home Shield as they were to the contractor who came out. We’ve been American Home Shield customers for well over 10 years, and we renew every year. We recommend them.

    AHS - American Home Shield first sent us their subcontractor upon opening a service request. After making several calls and leaving 3 voice messages they finally called back after 3 days and said they do not service refrigerators. Then we called back and the sent another company. Same thing after repeated calls and leaving voice messages they gave an appointment. Tech showed up and said he cannot do anything and AHS will not cover anything because it is old Fridge and to call LG directly to see if they can help. Called LG support and they said Fridge is covered and they will send certified tech and he will replace the compressor free. They will charge 125 service fee and 250 labor.

    Called AHS to cover the labor cost and they said they will not pay anything. I asked them to at least refund me back my 125 deductible I had paid to open the request as their service contractors were not able to repair anything and it was waste of my precious time. They said they will not refund. I said please cancel both my rental property and residential and they said I have to pay administration fees and their retention team will call. We are 7 people in family with 2 kids and also a 89 year old and had to wait 2 weeks and fridge is still not repaired. Please stay away from American Home Shield, they just take your money and put service charge and when it comes time to refund make excuses not to pay you.

    We had a pipe that got plugged, which was a very simple, small thing that needed to get fixed. The contractor had come before and they were nice, courteous and did their stuff. I could’ve fixed it myself if I realized, but they took care of it quickly and left. I called American Home Shield to submit the claim and the only difficulty with the process are the companies that are picked. Sometimes, they're not very high-rated. As soon as you go and read about them online, they'll only be low ratings and I find that often, the first one is like that. Then I have to say that I don’t like them, that I’ve already talked to those guys before and to give me another one. I kind of grumble a little bit, and AHS would find me another one. I don’t like that the options that are provided initially aren’t good ones.

    The other thing that sometimes happens is that I have had, in the past, some difficulty with items that I ask about, and then, when the person comes, are not covered. So, that’s kinda frustrating, and I had to go around. Then, I had to get some process and I had to call back. I told them that they told me this was covered, that we have to pull some records and listen to what the phone call was. I don't have time for all that crap. That was getting too complicated. So, with the scheduling process, I’m not happy with that and I dread doing that.

    I filed a claim over the phone for the air conditioner that died and American Home Shield approved and got me a new air conditioner in two to three weeks. But I had to keep calling them myself. I kept getting misinformation from multiple people before we could get a straight answer. It was absolutely horrible. They were unable to rectify the problem. They didn't get back to me and there was no follow-up either. The only people who were remotely helpful were the supervisors I was able to get to. I kept getting in touch with people, in the Philippines and in foreign countries, who didn't speak English very well or weren't able to communicate the problem. It was a nightmare.

    The only people who could help were OSA. They're fantastic. They've done stuff in my house before and they're very professional, good and courteous. Everything is fine now and American Home Shield has also replaced a bunch of things in my house before. I end up getting new appliances but they're very difficult to deal with, and people like OSA say the same thing. There are extended hold times whenever you're trying to reach them. You get multiple different stories and it takes forever for them to follow up and get back. Unfortunately, you don't have a choice if you use their service. We've had American Home Shield for five years. We have to renew every year and they keep raising the price. They send you a bill with the new price and I'm on autobill so if I don't do anything, it gets recharged with the new price. If I wanna cancel it, it would probably take me a couple of hours on the phone.

    My water heater failed and was leaking water through my wall. I filed a claim to American Home Shield and I did it online. They sent a contractor out in two days and they took care of everything that same day. They did it while I was not home, which made it easier. However, I did have an issue after they fixed it. Since I wasn’t there, I asked the contractor to leave an invoice for me to pay it and that I would do a credit card, initially. We played phone tag for two weeks. I tried to call the contractor over and over and their rep said he’d call me back but he never did. And just last week, I got a text and he said that he felt as if I was trying to get out of payment. He was disrespectful about it and I didn’t appreciate that because I’ve tried to reach him.

    At that point he wanted my credit card number over the phone and I told him that was not an option anymore. I told him I would mail a check and that was the only way I was gonna pay. And so, I mailed the check last Monday and it has yet to be cashed. I don’t know why they were harassing me about a payment if they’re not even gonna cash the check. I do not wanna use that contractor again.

    We had a problem with the air conditioner and I submitted the claim online. American Home Shield then called us to let us know somebody was gonna be contacting us. Only thing that I didn't like about the situation is that this is such a big company. If they would go in and select people that's available 24 hours, and when you send in a house that's 90 degrees like outside for a whole weekend to get somebody to come here, and you pay that much for them to have service for you at all times, it kinda puts us in a bind when you got kids in the house. So I would rather for them to select companies that are 24 hours available versus one that I have to wait two days. Because we discovered the problem on a Friday night, and we had to go through Saturday and Sunday with no air. The company that they selected wasn't available on the weekends.

    It wasn't the contractor's fault. They were really good people. The guy that came out was awesome. He educated us on the air conditioner. Even before he left, I discovered a problem with the air conditioner, and he came in, got back out the car no problem, stayed the next extra 10 minutes just to see if he could see what was going on, and then discovered that there was another problem with it on top of what he resolved before he left. So, it's a really good company. He pretty much fixed everything. The air conditioner is holding its temperature. Everything is good thus far. I was very satisfied.

    American Home Shield is very helpful. When we paid them $500, I thought that we were getting the coverage for everything that they advertised. But it's another plan that's a little bit higher. Had I known about the other options, I would've got the maximum. But our policy stated the electronic things were gonna be covered, but the stove was not, because we don't have that plan. My thing is if we gonna go in and pay cash for our house like we did, and I'm getting American Home Shield to protect me, then I wanna have the maximum, because I wanna get my money's worth to get whatever fixed out of it. But overall, they're a great company. There is not a call that they didn't respond to, and they were successful at getting things done in matter of time.

    I called American Home Shield for a plumbing issue in the laundry room. They gave me the number of the contractor to call and they said they were gonna send the claim over to the contractor so the contractor would have it in their queue. Dave's Plumbing came out in three days and they did a great job fixing the shutoff valve. The tech had to replace the valve entirely and he had to go to Lowe's but he had it on within a couple of hours. Thankfully, this wasn't an issue where we went without water for a couple of days.

    AZ Remodeling and Plumbing came out recently for an air conditioning issue, and it took several days before they came out because there was a storm around. I got a message saying the tech would be out tomorrow, even though it was windy, so I stuck around for four hours. I phoned the repair guy and never got an answer from American Home Shield. I was really pissed off because everybody was closed, but they sent me a message saying the tech would be here. Still, the tech that came was very good. My thermostat was acting funky because of the storm, and when he got here, it was acting fine. He said, "There’s a warranty for two months. If it acts funky again, I’ll be back.”

    My most recent appliance claim with American Home Shield went fine. I called and speak to a representative, and our interaction was okay. Sears came out, and I also had really good interactions with them. It took two trips, but they resolved the issue. The claim was on the clothes dryer. An initial problem was the heating element had burned out. And with them working on it and moving the machine around, it got a wire loosened. It did run okay for about a week, but with a certain amount of vibration you have with the washer and/or dryer, the wire that was a little loose became completely loose, and the contractor had to come back out and attach the wire so it would work properly.

    We used American Home Shield once last year and once this year when the AC was not working at all. I called that in and the rep was great. My only thing is when I called this year, they gave us a number to call for the contractor and we had trouble getting through to them. I called back again because by late afternoon I still couldn’t get an answer from the contractor. They ended up calling within 30 minutes. It all worked out but I was concerned that it didn’t seem like anyone was answering the phone in the office at first.

    But it was great. Technicians came out and they did a wonderful job. They knew within an hour or so what was wrong with the AC. They had to get underneath the house and check the wires. It turned out the problem was just a wire. I was really surprised because the AC is an old unit. We heard it was gonna be more expensive. It may have been after 5 o’clock by the time they finished but they got it done. They were very good about not leaving a mess which was unusual with contractors. Also, they washed and they wiped their feet because they had to go underneath where it was muddy. I was very impressed with them.

    When we bought our lake house, the seller paid the first year of American Home Shield's warranty. That was part of the contract because the air conditioner was older. This is the beginning of our second year with them. This home is a second home for us so we felt like we could not afford to carry two homes if there are stuff going wrong all the time.

    I've had AHS since 2015 and I've had an awesome experience with them. When I first started submitting my request, I wanted to change something and it was really nuts because I couldn't get a hold of anybody. But they've improved the online process so much that I don't need to call anyone. Now, the minute I submit my claims, within 24 hours, I get a text and immediately, I get a confirmation on my phone. Then whoever's doing the work will call to schedule a date. It's really fast and I love American Home Shield. It's great and it's one of the best services out there.     I had an air conditioning claim most recently with American Home Shield and Service One Air came out. They identified the problem right away, replaced the motor on the condenser and it has been running fine ever since. The gentleman was very thorough, very confident, had the part on his truck, so there was no waiting. American Home Shield's online process was straightforward. I called on a Friday and the contractor came out on a Monday and we're back in business that day. So, it was one of my better experiences. But then, again, it was an easy, straightforward repair. The part that was replaced was a common part that the plumber happened to have on the truck. We've had cases where we had to wait weeks.

    We've been using American Home Shield since 2016 and we just renew once a year. I had seven plumbing issues and had to get a second opinion. All of them were disqualified by American Home Shield because it was claimed by a plumber that we had over-pressure in our system from our city water supply. I had the city come out, he measured it and he saw all the pressures were fine. But despite all that, I still got a letter from AHS saying, "You have over-pressure and so none of your plumbing problems are covered." And things like valves that don't shut off. And the technician would say, "Well, unless it's leaking water all over, spraying water all over the house, it hasn't failed." But in my opinion, an emergency shut-off valve is a safety device. If it doesn't shut off, it's failed, but it's not leaking. So, we get into all these legalistic semantics and it drives me nuts. So, if I don't renew with American Home Shield, that is precisely the reason why.

    We just bought a house and we asked for a home warranty. American Home Shield was offered and it was easy to sign up. A few days after we moved, we had an issue with our freezer. We woke up one day and the ice melted on the floor. I went online and filled the claim. The first person American Home Shield sent out said he needed another opinion. He talked to the warranty company and they sent another person. That person came out and fixed something. But we still do not have a working fridge. It’s been almost four weeks. I’m very disappointed. I have a small wine cooler but it's tough.

    We were told that there was something wrong in the coolant then the compressor. My husband called the guy and was told the pieces were ordered. But he won’t be able to come out and fix the fridge until next week. I’m a real estate agent and I am never referring my clients to buy American Home Shield. We deal with other home warranties and by now, they would have fixed the problem or something has been done. Having had other home warranties before, the prices are all very similar - $50 or less which is not a big deal. Signing up for a service or work request is easy everywhere too. But in terms of the followup and the efficiency of the repair, I’ve had a way better experience than American Home Shield. They are very poor.

    AHS's online process was quick and easy. I was very pleased with them and the promptness with which their contractors came out and I was also given some tips on how to keep things from happening again. The last claim I had was a stopped up sink. I submitted my claim in the afternoon and the contractor was there the next morning. It’s going pretty well now. I had another claim about a refrigerator that was not operating correctly and it took about a week for them to come out, which was not good. People don’t want to have to wait a week for a refrigerator. But once the contractor came out, he did a very good job. Everything’s working great. My AHS experience was good, overall.

    I been a customer for over a year and was fine paying the $45 monthly fee. Called in a few times and they are quick to take my $75 service fee and schedule a week later. First time called for my dishwasher not working. Tech came out who was Russian and had to understand but opened it and dried off some parts and closed it back up. Got it to work and said I should be fine. A week later it was broken again. Called back and same guy came out. Ordered a gasket and 4 weeks later came out to install it. It's working but service was terrible. Basically paid $75 plus monthly fee for a gasket.

    Next call was for my washer machine. Machine works but doesn't complete a full spin. Called up and was immediately charged $75 again and scheduled service visit. Another Russian came out who was even harder to understand and told me the pump was not draining correctly. He needed to submit work order to the office and they would let me know if it's covered. Got a call and was informed, due to overloading they would not cover the repair. How do you break a pump by overloading. Cancelled membership the same day. Total cost is not worth the coverage you get.

    I called because a problem with the air conditioning. I paid the 75 dollars co-payment. The company in charge of providing the service said that they could come to my home in 5 days; that was too long in a hot season. I needed to hire somebody to fix the problem and pay that by myself. I called AHS and cancel the service; no problem with it. They offered to reimburse the 75 dollars co-payment in 7-10 days. Now, 3 months and 4 phone calls later I haven't received the reimbursement. Called the company and every time I receive different information about the problem. Does anybody knows another better home insurance company?

    AHS most times does not rely on outside contractors to order repair parts and instead orders them from their purchasing department. They do not communicate in a timely fashion with customer.     If I could give this company a negative star I would. Don’t waste your monthly fee money or your service fee by calling in inexperienced techs they send out. Twice in a month we call in a problem they claim to service but when the techs show up they find reasons to not do the work. Latest example related to plumbing...before we called to report that our outside pipe burst and we have no water to the house nothing in the description had exclusions. The techs finally arrive (after several texts) they show up and call AHS to tell us it isn’t covered....they didn’t even try to identify the issue. Do not waste your money on this company that finds any way possible to take your money without fixing your issue. Best to put the money in an emergency fund every month.

    My AC stop working so we contacted AHS. My first issue was it took 3 days before a technician came out to look at the unit. After a 5 minute diagnoses, the tech informed me there was no coolant in the system and I had a leak. He then spent 10 minutes trying to convince me to buy a whole new system (inside and out). After I told him no, he changed the diagnoses to a faulty compressor. Once the diagnoses was made, a report has to be submitted to AHS and it has to go through an approval process. Five days later, the claim is approved and the compressor gets ordered.

    On day 13, a different tech shows up with the compressor and begins to install it. Immediately he notices multiple leaks inside the condenser unit. The tech then tells me, he can install the compressor and charge the unit with coolant at a cost of $1,000 to me but it will all leak out again. I made repeated attempts to contact the service company but the owner declined my calls after 1 ring. I called AHS and the rep could only tell me that nothing could be done until the service company filed the new claim. At this point I requested to speak with a supervisor. After being on hold for 20 minutes the rep came back and said no supervisor was available. I told her I would continue to hold. After another 30 minutes the rep returned and told me the same thing. I again told her I would hold.

    After a total of 1 hour and 25 minutes on hold I finally get a supervisor on the phone. At this point all she can tell me is we have to be patient, it is the service company's fault and she didn't understand why I was so upset! I live in Texas where the average temperature has been around 100 degrees, I have been without A/C for 2 weeks, and because an incompetent service tech it will be another 2 weeks!!! I think I am justified to be upset!!

So they can't found the same coil or fixed so they ask me to replace the unit and I have to pay 5000 out of my pocket. And when I called them bad customer service.     We called regarding our air conditioner not functioning properly. We live in Florida and it’s been 100 degrees and humid. We were told that there was no one available for three days. When we told them this is an emergency and if they cannot help us we would consider canceling the policy, we were put on hold. The rep came back on and said that he couldn’t find anyone and he canceled our contract. We were not allowed to speak to a supervisor and every number we called came to the rude customer service reps who wouldn’t transfer to a manager. It’s just as well because we had a bad experience with this company with a plumbing issue as well. It’s not worth the money or the hassle. Wish no stars was an option.

    AC went out 5 days ago. It's been 90 degrees, with a heat index even higher in the upstairs part of my home. Where I work. My fiance is an extreme life long asthmatic and has had to have 2 nebulizing treatments to STAY ALIVE. They do not have anyone who speaks English as their first language, which is fine, unless you need them to understand the contract terms, laws in America and breach. They refused to provide technicians, told us to go find our own technicians promising they will get our air fixed or replaced. Sunday night, we set up a tech. Monday they said "call back tomorrow'. It was over 90 degrees outside. Tuesday we call, they say "call back later" after saying "please hold for 2-3 minutes" for an HOUR.

    We called so many times...wasted hours, they said they want ANOTHER technician. We find another one and have them review it. Called HSA, they said "Call back tomorrow." We sweated, my feet are BURNING. It's so hot. Seriously. Hot. Every time we've called they just say the same thing "We are still reviewing, we want a different opinion." I BET YOU DO! Sucks when you have to actually do what you say you're going to do! We don't want our AC to be broken either, but that is the risk of the warranty business. I have a feeling we will be having to find an attorney.

    Stay away from American Home Shield (AHS 1 800-776-4663): I had my entire house insured with SEARS (excellent company) for the past 3 yrs, well, about 2 months ago I got an e-mail from AHS giving me an offer of $100 off if I join them. BIG MISTAKE!!!! All these insurance companies after you join them always make you wait 30 days before the insurance starts. So I waited 30 days with AHS and then they charged my credit card on August 30th, 2019.

    Let me also mention that I have the worry free plan from PSE&G. On September 14th, 2019 I noticed water underneath my water heater so I called PSE&G first. They determined that my water heater needed to be replaced. Soon after, I called AHS and placed the claim (I had to wait until Monday the 16th because they don’t work on weekends). I got a call from PHD Mechanical INC Monday morning and I was told that they will be at my house later during the day. The technician came (I was at work) and then left after about 20 min. I called PHD Mechanical to find out what was going to be done. But they told me that I had to call AHS. So I call AHS and they told me that I have to wait for the technician’s report (all this was at about 1 pm).

    At about 430pm I called PHD mechanical again. They told me that the technician had already given his report to AHS. So, I called AHS. They told me that I had to call PHD mechanical. At this point I was getting very upset!!.. So I demanded the person from AHS to tell me what was happening and I had no reason to call PHD mechanical because my payments are done directly to AHS and not any other company.

    Let me also mention that my credit card had also been charged $106 as part of my deductible… per claim. Well, the guy from AHS told me that I had to pay for the repair because the part that I needed was not covered by their warranty (I needed a PRESSURE REGULATOR). So I said “I pay your company to have insurance”. The guy from AHS told me that it would cost me $385 to get my water heater fixed and that I needed to contact PHD mechanical. (So 385+ 106 = $491 so far. A brand new unit at Home Depot is about $500). I demanded to speak with his manager….and mysteriously!!!! I got disconnected.

    The next morning I get a call from PHD Mechanical telling me that my estimate was ready and that it would cost me $2,500 to replace the unit. I said, ”WHAT!!!!". Before I was ready to say something else, the lady from PHD Mechanical also said “oh, and AHS DENIED your claim”. At this point I was FURIOUS!!!! So I said to the lady from PHD mechanical that AHS had told me that all I needed was the PRESSURE REGULATOR. The lady from PHD Mechanical then told me that it was not true.

    I then called AHS. And they told me that they were not going to replace it because it was a pre-existing condition and that the water under the water heater had rust. I said to the lady, ”I don’t know exactly what do you mean by preexisting because I just noticed the leak for the first time last Saturday. If it was leaking before I never saw it, also even if it was a preexisting problem, # 1 I would have not waited 2 months to put the claim and risking my basement from getting flooded. #2 this is the purpose of having the insurance if something happens. And as far as the water looking brownish because of the rust (I said to the lady), REALLY!!!! That is what happens when water is in contact with metal… for years. The lady from AHS all had to say and keep repeating was that it was a preexisting condition and that they will not pay or replace it. Again, stay AWAY from AMERICAN HOME SHIELD (1 800-776-4663).

    Updated on 09/25/2019: Reviewed AHS and was sent a message regarding my review to contact them. Called went through the entire problem of having air conditioning repair tech sent out by ahs. While trying to fix my ac he broke off our outside water faucet. Called ahs and was told to call a plumber, pay for it, and ahs would reimburse us for the cost of the plumber. Followed ahs authorized customer support person and called a plumber, paid for it, sent in copy of payment to plumber and waited for reimbursement. Spoke to ahs about the hole in the side of our brick home left from plumber fixing pipe and was told a masonry contractor would be coming out to fix it and that it would be covered by ahs. Contractor never showed, reimbursement never came.

    Called back in several times, getting several different stories but All of them basically said that even though we were told this would be covered that they were going to go against their word and refuse to reimburse us for the plumber or pay to repair outside of our home. So two and a half months later still have a home I’m my home. Called them back today at their request to try and get this resolved and was told that the notes show they aren’t going to cover it. Asked to speak to a supervisor and was told to hold while the got someone and after being on hold for ten minutes was hung up on.

    Original review: We contacted AHS to file claim to have our air conditioning repaired. They sent out a company in a timely (on July 1st) manner but while the tech was working on our unit he used an outside faucet to rinse off a part and broke off the faucet. We had to shut off the water to our home. We called AHS regarding this and we were instructed to call a plumber and have it repaired and then AHS would reimburse us for our out of pocket expense for the plumber. Plumber came out the next day, had to chip out several bricks on the outside of our home to repair the pipe that the tech had broken. He fixed it and we were able to turn back on our water. He was unable to repair the brick and said we would need to get a masonry person for that.

    Called AHS to see about getting our reimbursement and were given an email address to send our bill to. Spoke to them about needing brick repaired and we were told that they would find us one in our area and that company would then call us to schedule a time to repair the hole in the outside of our home. We did not hear anything so after a week and a half I called AHS back regarding our reimbursement and masonry person. Was told our request was denied because the plumbing problem was not due to normal wear and tear. I said of course it wasn’t. The ac company they sent out broke it off. Was told that they would escalate this to a supervisor and the supervisor should contact us in a couple of days. No one called.

    Called AHS back to check on it again and was told check had been mailed the day before and if we did not have it by the beginning of the next week to call back and let them know we had not received the check. Called back the next week when we did not recover the check. This person said that no check had been mailed because our claim was denied because it was not a covered repair. I stated I understood that under normal circumstances it wouldn’t be covered but it happened during a repair by one of those authorized repair companies and we were instructed that we would be reimbursed.

    Was told that they would once again escalate our request to a supervisor and that we could expect a form on the mail in the next ten business days for us to send in another request for reimbursement from another dept. Called AHS on September 12th. Was told there was no record of us ever calling after we had requested air conditioning repairs. Explained the situation again and was basically told to give up because if one of their employees gave us incorrect information there was nothing else we could do. I am beyond frustrated.

    Purchasing a home warranty from AHS has been the biggest waste of money and time. I would recommend to anyone shopping around for a home warranty to skip it if AHS is the one you are considering. I am going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau when I finish this review. I am going to call tomorrow and see if I can cancel our home warranty because I will never call them for another claim after this complete breach of our trust and good faith.

    9/18/19 Review - On June 27, 2019 entered a request for my refrigerator to be repaired. I waited about three weeks before a technician from Wright Refrigeration (WR) came to investigate the problem and paid them $100 out of pocket. In 9 days, it will be three months without a working refrigerator (a basic necessity in every home). WR came out on 8/15/19 to do a second diagnosis and that's the last time action was taken. Spent countless hours calling to ask about the status of the repairs and got the same excuses every time. Three weeks ago, I was told by Ayo, an AHS supervisor, that Wright Refrigeration wants to purchase the parts themselves. Since then there has been no further updates. AHS has made no effort to purchase the part or to ensure they perform the repair in a timely manner. They choose to do nothing.

    Ayo, said she would call me back within three days to let me know how they are going to get beyond the impasse, but she didn’t have the courtesy to call me back. She refused to give me a direct number where I could check with her directly. During the month of July, I called every day or every other day and two to three times for the first 3 weeks in August to get a status update. Every time I called, a different person picked up the phone and took 10-15 minutes to read the notes related to the refrigerator repair request. Each phone call took about one hour or more a total of 44 plus hours (mostly because the customer representative were not well trained and spent time repeating themselves). I work all day and must take the time out of my day to make these phone calls as they are not open when I get off work. It's unacceptable for AHS to ignore my service request. AHS has not followed through.

    They do not hold themselves accountable and lack honesty. They have not honored the warranty I paid for. AHS has not acted to resolve and has not provided me with basic customer service. To date the repair part has not been ordered. This has been going on too long. Very poor service and a deplorable way to treat a paying customer. You can’t imagine how it feels to NOT have a refrigerator. I have been patient….my refrigerator must be repaired!!!!

    I had a washing machine worked on and the tech that AHS sent out was great. A guy came here and diagnosed it, then he left. They had to order parts and it took a little bit to get it in. Then, he came in and fixed it, and it's been working like a champ. So far, I have AHS in this house for six months now but I've had them before with another house. I've had good experience with them and their service is better than the other companies. We're kind of in a rural area, so it's hard to get contractors around here but they know how to do a better job in that.

    Still, they should improve their process because nobody likes to wait on anything. We had another washing machine next door that we could use, so it wasn't that big a deal. But as I understand, they had to order the parts then get it shipped to the contractors. And that they buy in bulk. But it seems like sometimes, the wait is a little long. And on this particular brand of washing machine, it was a backlog or backorder on the part which added to the issue of the wait.

    There has been some leakage from the toilet and that did some damage to the floor over a period of time. I called in a claim to American Home Shield. The claims rep was very professional as well as the contractor. They explained to us that we were gonna need some additional repairs on the floor and that they didn’t do that.     American Home Shield's marketing was better than the others. I was gonna go with another company that's a little cheaper, but AHS looked better as far as what they said they guaranteed. Also, people have told me that they've had it. I had a washing machine that kept shutting off in the middle of the cycle. Also, I kept getting clogs. The service guy just elevated the hose. And since I work out of town, I haven't had the chance to go back in and make sure it was working.

    I'm a little disappointed. I'm calling about a refrigerator as well. My refrigerator's wires got chewed up by my dogs. I was gonna fix it myself initially, but I was like, "If the appliance people came, they're gonna do something." But they said they don't cover that. The guy said that it's always the wear and tear. As far as how the contractors conduct themselves, they were really extremely professional and very knowledgeable. They're great. AHS is a great company, too, but from what I keep getting from the guys that have come so far, AHS is really likely to just repair things. I'm okay with that but on their advertising doesn't say that.
