We decided to put a warranty on our condo. We submitted a claim for our A/C and the vendor came to look at the problem. He did not test anything at all, but he said it was too old to buy parts for and it would need to be replaced. I received a call a day later from AHS stating we had a preexisting issue and the a/c would not be covered. I told them the tech didn't even test anything and I wanted to protest. They said I could get a second opinion. The original tech said our compressor didn't work even though he didn't test it. A second company came out and he tested the compressor and it worked. He told us this wasn't a preexisting condition. He took a photo of the receipt we gave him showing the unit had recently been serviced and it was working in good order with no leaks.
A couple of days later I hear from AHS and they said the second tech said it was preexisting and even though compressor was now show to work, the tech said the inside coils were bad and there was evidence of a leak in the inside unit. Only problem was he never inspected the inside unit at all. AHS was miserable to contact. They have a call center off shore and there is no way to contact them. A manager in their call center tried to set up a 3 way call so we could all speak with the last tech to discuss his report. He hung up on her and she promised to forward the issue to Contractor relations and get back to me. That was on 9.24.
Today, after calling 3 more time, I was told they would stick by their tech's information. I then asked to cancel and because the 30 days was up on 9/28, I was told that I would not get a full refund! I would have cancelled on the 24th but they said they were still researching. I would have cancelled the 3 other times I called between 9/24 and today 10/2 but again, they kept promising I would get a call back. This company is horrible to do business with. Please select a different warranty company! We have been without A/C since 9/6! This has been a nightmare!
Wow Karen! I can certainly understand your frustration with the ongoing HVAC issue. Your case is assigned to an agent and I see that he or she has already been in touch with you. I am confident that the rep with be able to assist with a resolution.

We have had AHS since 1990 and for the most part had good service. I must say in the last few years customer service has gone way down. We had plumbing issues where all three toilets were clogged as well as our shower running over and garden tub full. We called to request service and they sent a company to us that could not even service us for a week. No way. We called the company ourselves and explained our issue. Thankfully they did come out sooner. They hired a one man company to repair our free standing Ice maker and he not only messed the unit up more but since he repaired it it leaked all over our floor and warped our floors. AHS does not cover damage even though they sent the repairman to us.
They sent someone out to repair our heat/air unit outside and it lasted a whole hot month. We hired the company that has been servicing our unit for years to come check our issue. The last workers whom AHS sent out bypassed parts that is totally illegal. Needless to say we did not trust AHS to send someone out again. We canceled our contract and we had to pay another 61.75 just to cancel even though AHS has cost us thousands of dollars over the past few years. When I tried to explain why we wanted to cancel all I ever got was, "That is true. We do not cover secondary damage."!! I will not recommend this company to anyone and I am glad we are no longer a part of AHS.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have had several issue with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

American Horror Story or AHS for short. If you want to spend three weeks without a refrigerator in South Florida in the summer, if you enjoy being lied to, misled, ignored or insulted, if you like to be put on hold for hours and then disconnected from the call.....then, by all means, sign up and enjoy the ride.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Please do yourself a big favor and take your business elsewhere. These scam artists will take money upfront and won't fix anything. They took $75 out of my account. Sent a technician to my house and claimed that my garbage disposal claimed was old before the sign of our contract. How dare are you guys. This company should be investigated for so many complaints about ripping off customers. Worst COMPANY EVER!!!!
Good afternoon Alan,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

I have had AHS for 17 years. Unfortunately when it came down to a major issue, AHS was absent. My AC has been serviced by the vendors, until I had a major issue. System was not up to code, based on their service technician. System was a fire hazard. They cut wires at main unit and left them bare, exposed. We could of had a major fire.
Then after all was said AHS held off for over 3 months to decide on a cash out. At first it was to $586, then $503. Agents are from overseas, and all repeat same lines of concern. They have no way of transferring calls to other agents in the USA, and would never escalate problem to managers. Because the only have unqualified agent, in some third world country. This is not how I was educated, that AMERICAN companies care. Question, why does AHS be honest and show how bad their customers really think they are. WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. DONT BUY SERVICE FROM THIS COMPANY, YOU WOULD BE WASTING MONEY.
Good afternoon Randy,
On behalf of American Home Shield, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience we caused you and your family. Thank you for the time that you did trust us to take care of your systems and appliances in your home. We will definitely be using your review to make our services better. Have an awesome day!

I did a rekey on the new home I bought. I filed a claim online to American Home Shield and the locksmith that they sent out was great. He was really nice. He was all the way around good. I liked him. But it's a different story with the plumber and the appliance man. With the appliance claim, American Home Shield put a work order in for a company that couldn’t service within guidelines. So, they transferred to a company that did come. The cooktop was beeping and we knew that it was a control board. The appliance man came and rubbed his hands across the screen of the cooktop and said, “Well, that fixed it for now. It’s gonna go back out, but because I fixed it, American Home Shield won’t replace the control board right now.” I told him that if he knew it was gonna go back out, then he just did a temporary fix. And then he left. After two weeks, it goes back out again.
American Home Shield did a recall. But I could not reach him. I called and I called and I called, but no answer. Then I called American Home Shield and said that this vendor wouldn’t call me back and I couldn’t get an appointment. The rep said that the vendor updated the report and said they couldn’t contact me. But they never called me, and she tried to reach out to them but they didn’t answer. So American Home Shield transferred me to another vendor. Stevens Appliances was good and the tech came the next day. He told us that it was the control board. And then he said he would put in an order. He said he doesn't supply parts but he lets American Home Shield supply all of his parts.
I used to work for a vendor of American Home Shield in the HVAC so I know how the process works. I asked him when was he gonna do their authorization, and he said he would make sure he could do it right at that moment. But on that day, there was no authorization. He did the authorization five days after he came to my home, which at that point, I can’t cook. You can’t turn the stove on. You can’t do anything with that thing beeping. So, I had to call someone to get it fixed myself because he would not do the authorization. American Home Shield had to keep reaching out to him and send in over status emails of it for him to even send in the authorization.
American Home Shield gave me the runaround with appliances having to call purchasing appliances, and then they had to send me to another department. And the rep told me that they could only give me $105 because the price of the part and they have to take out the labor. I asked them if they did not add in the labor cost, then why did the tech still charged the labor? The rep said that she did forget about that and she would get the tech on the phone. American Home Shield kept trying to get in contact with him. They said that there was nothing they can do until the vendor give them the diagnosis. The vendor hasn’t submitted it. I'm gonna call again and send another email.
American Home Shield was doing their part but the vendor wasn't doing his part. When they finally did get him on the phone, he said that he was just a small business and that he was a one-man crew. But he shouldn’t accept the call load that he accepted from American Home Shield if he knew that was gonna be an issue.

If I could leave negative ten stars I would. These guys are scam artists. You cannot get anyone on the phone that speaks English well enough to understand you. Paid $75 for an HVAC call out cause my A/C went out. They sent out a company that has 1 star review on Google, Yelp and everywhere to be found. Contractor quoted 30% higher than 5 other quotes I received to replace the broken A/C for the same unit. So I opted to not go with the AHS contractor and instead receive a buy out for $1500 that AHS is supposed to cover. Instead AHS claimed the contractor said that there would have to be special structural changes to the house to get the A/C replaced which is a lie just so they don't have to cover anything. What is the point of AHS if they try to make cop outs to get out of covering anything.
Two weeks before the HVAC incident a pipe on my pool filter had a gasket wear out and needed replaced. The AHS contractor was also a 1 star reviewed company and told AHS there was a cement foundation issue under the pool filter that caused the filter to slant away and the gasket to wear out. That again was a lie, gaskets are meant to wear out and be replaced, so again just a cop out so they didn't have to cover any costs. Both of these incidents required a $75 call out fee from me. Had I known ahead of time the 1 star companies they were going to send I would never have paid, but they don't let you choose or know the name of the company ahead of time.

The claim for the blower over the furnace stove went well. But now, AHS won't fix my heater because they haven't received payment from my title company. My title company said they mailed the check 7 days ago and it should've been there already. I'm kinda really upset with AHS. It's fixing to get cold here in a couple of days and I need a heater. My heater will kick on, and then the fan will quit blowing. It just stays running, but nothing's coming out. I called them on it and they said the contractor could only come out once without having a payment.

We had to rekey the house so I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. I spoke with an agent and it was pretty straightforward. This was my first claim and it was really easy to do. And then Dan came out and he was great. When he showed up, he was able to look at the things and then rekey everything. He even gave us some other tips on how to make our home safer. So, that was really nice.

Hero's Plumbing came out and they determined that the issue actually wasn't the garbage disposal. And so, they called American Home Shield and they referred it back to an electrical place. It was just a plug underneath the sink that was bad. And so, the electrical place came out and fixed it. The contractor was a really nice guy, very professional, and took care of business really quickly. Everything's working great since then.

The coils on the inside of our AC unit were leaking. My wife runs a daycare business out of our house, so it's a very sensitive thing. The temperature has to be within certain parameters. We had several days where it was 80 plus degrees in the house, and we can't do that. We had numerous calls on the unit before last summer with issues with it. We submitted a claim to AHS and Majestic Custom Heating & Air came to do service. They determined that the A coil and the unit outside needs to be replaced and that there were a lot of other things that needed to be done. It was almost $700 in additional charges outside of our home warranty so we were looking if there's something else that we can do. Still, we love having American Home Shield.
Sounds like there were a alot of elements to your a/c claim John. My name is Stacy and I have emailed you as I would like to make sure your issue is resolved. I look forward to speaking with you.

First of all, American Home Shield scheduled a contractor and he didn’t get with me, and then I had to call him twice. And then he said he was booked up. He couldn’t get out there for three weeks. They were really non-responsive, so I called American Home Shield. They scheduled a different vendor which was West Michigan, and that contractor was great. They called me right away, scheduled an appointment, worked around my lunch hour work schedule that I needed to come back and meet them with. They were professional, knowledgeable, and then when they came to do the install, the same thing. Overall, a really good experience with them.
I just had a lot of updating done. I have brand new carpet, brand new hardwood flooring and all new paint. They were respectful and very considerate of that, while a lot of contractors aren’t. They’re walking in and out from the outside air conditioning unit, and they have booties on. They put mats down and swept up after themselves. I can’t ask for more than that. I appreciate that.

My Samsung refrigerator recently was making a super-loud noise, and the temperature wasn’t right. My first submission was through the internet and I didn't have problems finding what I needed, but it was a little misleading. American Home Shield asked me what appliance I was requesting service for and I clicked icemaker and fridge, now knowing these could be two separate things. I ended up getting charged twice, and they said it could be because I clicked both of those things. But they removed the extra charge.
The techs from Dandelion were really professional and I liked them. My icemaker was filled up with ice and ice filled up in the cooling system, and they helped me remove that. Then they told me to get a thermometer to monitor the temperature. There were a few recalls because my fridge was still not doing well, and they also found out my fridge was imbalanced, like one side is higher than the other side. They ended up replacing the control panel for me, but it’s still not working properly. But both American Home Shield and Dandelion responded really fast. I told the technician that it was not working, and he said, “You need to like call in to ask for a second opinion for that.” So, I called in to American Home Shield and they said because of the timeline, they had to come out to check on it again, and then request a second opinion through another provider.

I have been with American Home Shield since late July and I've already submitted my first claim. We called them and the interactions were good. The only thing is when I had to request a new provider, I had to go through the story every time from beginning to end. Since I got a new operator, there weren’t any notes or history that they can refer to. I understand that I’m not gonna get the same person twice when I call, but I was just hoping that a new person can pick up where we left off. I told the story when I first called and I was put on hold for 20 minutes. Then they came back but I got cut off. After getting disconnected, I called back and I had to start all over again with someone else. So, I asked them to take notes.
What I had asked for was I didn’t want the first service provider they sent because they had poor communication. I wanna go forward with a new provider but I was told, “We’ll give it one more day.” And I said, “Okay.” That was a Friday so I called back on Saturday. I had to start all over again with someone else about what was going on when I called and they said, “Okay. Let’s try them again.” I said, “No. That’s not what we agreed. We’re not going with this same provider. They're not reliable. They didn't know what they were doing. They didn't communicate.” I had to press that.
I also told the operator, “This should all be in the notes. Once I gave you the work order number, I shouldn’t have to be put on hold, tell the whole story again, go through my address, my phone number. All that stuff, it should just be there.” That was the third go-around. It doesn’t mean that the operator was unprofessional or not helpful. It just means that that would've been a better experience for me.
The new service provider, Express Appliance Service, came out last week and then yesterday, and it’s been better. While the issue hasn’t been fixed yet, they’ve been good. They have been in contact, have communicated, have followed up, and gave us time tables. They have explained what the issue is and what's the next step. It’s unfortunate that the issue didn't get fixed the first time, but it might’ve been misdiagnosed by the first service provider. Express thought the issue was solely related to connecting wires and connectors, but it was really about the thermostat. So, it took a second visit to get it properly diagnosed. And right now, I wanna see how this gets resolved.

American Home Shield has vendors that are very questionable. I live in a remote area so not all of them respond to my request. If you go on the website, you will see that there are multiple problems with all of these home maintenance programs. But it depends on the vendor and some of the vendors aren't screened properly. But A Plus Plumbing and Rooter was very cooperative, personal and efficient. I had a water heater problem and that particular claim was excellent. Between Jenny and Edgar, the service was excellent. Promptly responded to, diagnosed, ordered the part, and installed the part. The hot water heater was out until the part arrived. But it arrived promptly, special handling, and the next day it was installed.

We had to wait only 36 hours and so she scheduled that. The tech came and found that the upstairs unit had the capacitor blow while the downstairs unit had a pan that had gotten filled with water and the automatic shut-off component that's there to shut it off disintegrated. They replaced the capacitor and overall, my experience was perfect. Other people should go to AHS.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was very easy to do and if we had any complaint, it was also easy to come back to them. But sometimes, their contractor would take too long to order the part or they would follow up with the previous repair and take a little bit longer in coming back to fix it. The window that the contractors have when coming out is four hours from 2:00 to 6:00 and usually, I would still be working. I would ask them to give me a call 30 minutes prior and sometimes, they forget so, there would be no one to open the door when they arrive. I told them that I requested that but it kept happening a few times. Some technicians were very reliable and did exactly what we requested. So, it depends on the technicians.
I had a few good and bad experiences with Hornet. I wish it’s all good but 50-50 is not good. I wish it’s at least 80%. The washing machine from another property took three weeks to fix. We weren’t able to open the lid so they had to change something from there and order a part. Aside from that and the dishwasher at one property, there was also the microwave, which took a whole month to fix. A lot of it came from Hornet but the most recent one was great. The technician came on time, diagnosed the problem quickly and when he ordered the part, we had the dishwasher a week after. I’ve been recommending American Home Shield to my friends. We have seven properties with them, so they’re gonna hear different problems from us.

American Home Shield is reliable, but there are certain clauses that I didn’t know until when I called and asked when the contractor will be here because I didn’t have a contract that explains my contract limit or what are out of my contract. I didn’t know that until when I called for the water pressure and for my water heater. I was a little bit pissed off when I didn’t know about the extra clauses that my contract didn’t cover because I didn’t have my actual contract.
When ASAP Plumbing came out, they said they had to do a modification on the water heater, so they got back to American Home Shield. That was when I had a message from American Home Shield that said my warranty didn’t cover certain clauses that I didn’t know from the onset, so I had to pay out-of-pocket, of which I wasn’t prepared for. But I was forced to pay out-of-pocket because they said they couldn’t do the water pressure valve without working on the water heater. But the techs were professionals. They did the best they could, which means they did the max. In a nutshell, they did an excellent job and everything is good.

I've been with AHS for least six years and I used to call in my claims with them just because I was not as confident doing it on the internet. But the last couple of times, I've done it through their website and there have been no problems at all. An issue we had was our hot water heater was not working. We never really got hot water and hadn't for a while, but it was warm enough. All of a sudden, it started being not warm enough. I went online and AHS gave me a company. It sounded like it was the son of the owner. He was very professional and was very nice, but he was very young.
We scheduled an appointment and that morning, he called and said their truck didn't work. And then there were some other little things that I just thought we would just cancel the request and start all over. I tried to cancel the request but AHS wouldn't let me. I had to go back to the original guy. But he never ever called me back. When I complained, they gave me to another guy, who came right out when he was supposed to although he could've come sooner if they had let me and got things straightened out. He fixed the issue.
Unfortunately, the young man from the first company called. It was kind of an awkward situation. But I kinda felt that if I wanted to change companies, I should've been able to change companies. Other than that, I really had no complaints about who AHS sent out. Usually, they come within the time that I need them to come. We've never had such an emergency that we were without anything for any time. I'm sure because I've used them probably three times this year. My rate's gonna go up and it's not cheap.
There is one thing I would've liked to have done. We have had our air conditioner service via a company since we've owned this house for 29 years. I couldn't get AHS to take that portion off of my contract. I'm paying to have my air conditioner serviced when I'm never gonna have the air conditioner serviced. That was a little disappointing because I know, being a bigger piece of equipment, I'm probably paying a good deal for that. But I'm not complaining about AHS because for what I need, they've done a great job, except for that one time this year. But it would be kinda nice to be able to say that I would like the warranty not to cover my air conditioner, but I'd like it to cover this, this, and this.
It's good to know that you now have hot water Candi. I'm happy that we were able to resolve your water heater claim. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing week.

The AC quit working and it wasn't cooling so I submitted a claim online. I got a thing that requested my credit card and a lady from Air Doctor called me the next day. She scheduled a tech to come out the following day and the tech was very early. He went up to the roof to figure out what the problem was, which was a capacitor, and got it fixed on the same day. The unit has been phenomenal since.

We got a deep well and we didn't have water initially. The first guy that came out didn't do deep wells so he just adjusted the switch on top of it and we didn't have any pump water. Evidently, when it cut off and cut back on, it might have shocked something and I got low pressure in my showers and some of my fixtures. That same day, I notified AHS about it and the rep said that she was gonna send me the documentation in. The company also called me and apologized for accepting the call. Later on that day, I called AHS and the rep that I spoke to said that they did send it to authorization.
I've been dealing with American Home Shield for a long time in two different houses and they are pretty good. But this time they made me wait and the last AHS rep that I talked to was nasty. I was following up because I hadn't heard anything from American Home Shield for about five days and that guy was rude. Then if you count from the day that the first guy came out until the authorization and the guy from Walston Mechanical came out, that was about seven days.
American Home Shield messed me around. But the second guy they sent out out was knowledgeable. He said that I need to get another plumber to come out and do the fixtures. I also got a leak in my faucet spring when you pull the shower head out in the tub and my the sprinkler on my kitchen faucet won't come out to run the sprinkler water. So, I'll get all of that at the same time.

The two guys were very friendly and helpful, and they did a really good job. They got the machine fixed and working for us. I'm very pleased with Home Shield's service. They did a good job too.

I bought my house in September of 16 and started with AHS. I didn't use the service though because I didn't realize how much stuff they would be willing to work with me so I was hiring plumbers. Once I got the renewal, I went, "What does this thing cover" and I realized I wasted so much money. But now, I understand and every time there's an issue, I'll 1800 call AHS. I have contacted them twice and both times, I was impressed. Their responsiveness is so fast both times. The first time, I din't like trying to put in the claim because the operator was obviously offshore and they were difficult to understand. But this last time, it was a piece of cake. I got a callback both times within 45 minutes.
Then I had a claim for my AC unit and they sent Bencraft Mechanical Service. The contractor was very polite and he worked rapidly. They checked everything out when they came in and did a couple of minor things. They told me that the AC was working fine and I shouldn't have any issues with it. They cleaned out the water pipe thing and the blinking lights turn out to be a battery issue. They even checked my air filter for me. The contractor could have played games but didn't do that at all. I was really impressed with him.

The heating element on my dishwasher wasn't working, so I had somebody from AHS come out and they came out three time to try to fix it. Finally, it wasn't fixable, so I ended up getting a new dishwasher. I had different options. I could choose to get a set amount of cash to go buy my own or it was just one model that I could choose from. Since I don't have time or energy to go pick out a dishwasher, I just put in whatever they suggested.
When the dishwasher came, the two guys that delivered it were the sweetest guys. They hardly speak any English. I was just a little confused because I thought that people that were dropping it off were gonna do the whole switch over. But they said, "No. We just drop off." So, I had to call back to get someone to take the old one out, put the new one in. But it was fine. When TJ came, he said they usually have two people helping if it's on a second floor, because I live in a condo. So I helped him take the old one out and bring the new one up. He felt so bad, but he was wonderful. He was professional and he was really great.

There was something was wrong with my ice maker and it would not produce ice. I called the AHS number and they asked the brand of the appliance. I have a GE appliance and they said they would get that taken care of by a GE person. Sure enough, a guy came the next day. Everything was great. He did the servicing right away, found the problem, fixed it then helped me with some other things. I had trouble getting some of the shelves out and he demonstrated how to do it. It was very easy and he had me practice. That was really nice because sometimes if somebody shows you something and you don't do it yourself, you don't remember.
I also asked him about something over the stove like how to get the fans down. I asked if the fans were dirty and if I needed to clean them. He took them down and he said it was okay. He showed me that too. I was afraid that if I took it down, I wouldn't be able to get them back up. I'm short so it would be a problem for me to do it. The tech guy was very helpful beyond what he had to do and he didn't waste any time. He was very informative as well. Since the repair, everything has been fine. We have had the American Shield Home since we purchased our home eight months ago. We have tried to use it two times and both times we have tried to have something repaired has been very frustrating. Our front porch light stopped working and we called to have it repaired. AHS referred us to an electrician who came out and said he needed a longer ladder to complete the repair. AHS said the longer ladder was considered special equipment and said we would have to pay for the repair which was $240, this is after we already paid $100 to schedule the service.
Today our air conditioning stopped working, we live in Florida and it’s 90 degrees. The AC company they referred us to can’t come look at our unit until Friday which is three days from now. I called AHS to see if they have another company that could come sooner as it’s very hot. They said they have no one who could come fix our AC even though in this area their are many AC companies who work 24/7. So far this warranty has been a complete waste of money.

The company claims they're available 24/7, but that really translates to 8AM-5PM CST. If you have an emergency outside of those hours, you are out of luck. Once you do finally pay $75 and schedule with AHS, the turn-around time for a contractor to call you is 24HR (You are better off proactively reaching out the contractor). Once you have spoken with the contractor it is typical to wait 24-48 hours before they even arrive. (You are now 3 days into your emergency). (Side Note: You will receive no continuity in contractors, a plumber that came out 2 months ago, may not be on their available contractors list when you call later. You'll receive an entirely different contractor with no recourse to correct.)
Once the contractor arrives, they will spend 10 minutes diagnosing your problem and then leave your house without resolution. This is because they have 24-48 hours to submit the diagnosis to AHS. (We're now at 5 days into your emergency). Now the BIG IF, IF they authorize your request (which they will find a reason not to, or at the very least find something not to cover), you will then have to find a contractor to do the actual work. This may not be the same contractor you diagnosed with. It may take another 24-72 hours. Bottom Line: If you're willing to wait an extra two weeks and live in an insane go-between world where you have a 80/20 shot of being denied coverage anyways, then choose AHS. Otherwise, steer clear.
I apologize for the delay in regards to the water heater. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak with you about your claim.

Updated on 08/06/2020: And I would also like to my previous awful review... after being hung up on today multiple times, FINALLY got through to someone and NOW they are saying that the never received our warranty information and receipt - which is another LIE, and when we asked the AHS rep - what do we have to do to make this happen - she honestly said it's not her problem! AND we asked her is our business as a paying customer means anything to AHS - MADDIE said "YOU SHOULD FIND ANOTHER COMPANY!" What!!! AWFUL THIEVES - John, Elijah and Maddie... should all be fired for being liars - unless well ya know this was the way they were trained! A supervisor better be aware of this crappy business!!
Updated on 08/06/2020: DO NOT USE - COMPANY A SCAM AND A BUNCH OF THIEVES. I have only used this service now 2 times and both and absolutely UTTER disaster!! First time cost me to hire 2 contractors to come in and do the job which AHS plumbers made my leak worse - and then I had to hire a plasterer to fix their hole - cost me out of pocket the 100.00 to AHS and then $647.00 to hire the right people. Now we have been waiting over 10 weeks to get our check for the AC unit. We have called and waited three (3) times for over an hour EACH TIME to get different operators that down right lied that our check was mailed. WE ARE STILL WAITING.
Original Review: Truth be told - this company is a joke! ABC Warranty company is so much more for the home owner. American Home Shield is only protecting - AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!! So disappointed in the customer service of this company. Had a plumbing issue in August - had a plumber come out to fix it. Plumber put a hole in my ceiling and then told us, "this can't be fixed, the entire shower needs to come out and new pipes need to be installed." Then he left - leaving this hole in my living room ceiling. I went online and reviewed the plumber and what happened expecting to hear SOMETHING from AHS. Nope, did not hear anything back. I had to call and pay another plumber to come out, fix my shower (which he did without a bathroom remodel) AND fix the ceiling.
Since I had no response from the online survey I called AHS to get a refund... and was told "SORRY, in the plumber's notes he did not say he put a hole in your ceiling, and we won't do anything until we speak with them." UMMM WHAT! I am the customer telling you what happened - should I have had my phone out to record him doing so? And what company takes $100.00 from a customer to tell them tough crap that you had to pay someone else to do the job you paid us for?
I emailed you Friday:
I apologize for the way the agent treated you as I would be highly frustrated also. Please provide your invoice from the outside company you called out to complete the repairs for reimbursement at the warranty price. Once received I will process a check which you will receive within 7-10 business days.

First of all, they renewed my contract at a higher price without ever contacting me. Secondly, they sent a contractor with an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau to my home. When I refused to use this contractor, they only offered me $435.00 for a water tank and installation, which is less than I would have had to pay their crappy plumber out of pocket. (He wanted $450.00 for 'modifications.' The plumber I hired on my own is charging WAY LESS for what is basically the cost of installation) They refuse to give me an itemized explanation of why they're only giving me $435.00 for a job that will cost me over $1,000 to complete. Horrible, rude customer service! I asked to speak to a manager and they transferred me back to the switchboard. Twice. RUN! from this company!
Good Morning Sara,

My husband and I signed up for a home warranty from American Home Shield after buying our new house. It seemed to have good reviews and I had a co-worker recommend it a while back. The minute I filled out an inquiry online a service rep called to get me signed up within minutes. A few months went by and our ice maker stopped making ice and then I noticed the freezer was not as cold as it should be and the foods were not frozen solid. I requested a service call through American Home Shield on Friday, on Monday they repair man came out. He said when he submitted the repairs to American Home Shield they denied the request and stated it was because our freezer was what they considered "free-standing" although it is part of a fridge/freezer set. It was going to be an $800 repair that they would not cover.
I told the rep that called me that day that no one ever told me my freezer was considered free standing and that I was not told it would not be covered. The guy I signed up through said, "everything in 4 walls is covered." She told me a supervisor would review the call and get in touch with me within a day or two. A week later I have to contact them again about wanting my money back and cancelling my contract, still no call from a supervisor, just a cancellation fee on my account.
Finally I call and speak with someone and she says they can only refund me the amount I paid for the service call and they can't waive the cancellation fee. I could tell she was reading from a script because she kept saying the exact same thing over and over. This is piss poor customer service. I did not receive the coverage I was expecting. I would highly suggest to really dig deep into the reviews before signing up with any home warranty company. They are all about taking your money and then finding an excuse that your repair is not covered. They are all the same! I wish I had done a lot more in depth research of reviews before wasting my money.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service with us here at AHS. I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I had a claim for my washer. The repair guy from A & S Electric was here for 15 minutes and he told me that he needed a part. I said okay and asked him how long it would take to get it. He said that it shouldn’t take very long. Two weeks later, the part still hadn't come in so I called back American Home Shield and they put pressure on A & S Electric. So, another guy showed up with the part and he started banging the washer with a hammer. He even asked me for an extra hammer and he took the whole thing apart. I told my wife that if he kept on banging like that, that thing ain’t gonna work anymore. After five hours, he said that it was no good and that he needed another part. I told him that he already wasted two weeks and that I needed my washer.
So, then I kept calling A & S Electric. Nobody would answer. Then I called American Home Shield and said that they either send somebody else or give me a washer. I told them to do something. It’s going on a month. I got kids at home and we need to wash. They kept switching me to client relations but those guys never did anything and I was stuck there.
Even my neighbor who's with American Home Shield also got the same treatment from that electric company. I even told the customer service rep why they keep these people around and they didn't answer for them. They called the company and got me on hold. Then they would come back and said that there was no answer and I told them that they never answered their phone. After a month, American Home Shield finally said to just buy a new washer and they'd give me so much for it. I’ve been with AHS for a while now and I’ve had other calls. This thing has never happened and I blame the contractor, not American Home Shield. I recommend them.

We went online to the website for American Shield and said that we were getting some air but not enough to cool our place off. The site worked great and after we submitted our claim, South Placer Heating and Air came to do service. The techs were good. My husband was there and he was satisfied. They changed all the filters and everything’s been working great since then. The repair has improved our air conditioning totally. I recommend AHS.

I was having issues with the garage door opener. Sometimes, it would open and close and other times, it wouldn’t. It was way old. Action Garage Door was absolutely wonderful. The first garage door opener that they installed had issues, and they couldn’t get the remote side to connect to it. So, they came back on a different day, and they replaced the whole thing. That one worked fine. It was really awesome of them to do that. I had to deal with two technicians, and they were both fantastic. I did the claim with American Home Shield on the phone. When I had a claim on our old account on my old house, if I could, I would just do it online. The reason I did it by phone was because I had multiple things instead of just one.

I called American Home Shield and they set the claim up. They gave me a day and a time that the contractor would be out. Rice Heating and Air Conditioning came and fixed my air conditioner. In the heat of the summer, the repair made it so that the house was tolerable. They come out every year and fix it every year because it’s an old air conditioner. It would make sense to replace that air conditioning rather than having to file a claim every year on it. But, other than that, AHS has saved me a lot of money over the years.

He cleaned up really well, was friendly and kind, and everything about him was very pleasant. He got the work done. He had what he needed on his truck to actually do the repair. He kind of anticipated what it was, and so that was nice to not have to have a second visit. We just purchased the property that we use Home Shield for. We’ve used them before in previous purchases and we also like their reputation.

My washer was leaking. It caused the water leak, which damaged my flooring and carpet. All the water was coming out from underneath the washer. I had a dryer put in, and the Lowe’s representative moved the washer. So I felt that it was Lowe’s that did something, and they took pictures. So I sent the contractor from Robson Appliances the pictures. I showed him the part, and he determined that it was the clasp that goes around it. I didn’t know if it was the actual part, but he fixed the clamp and it seemed to stop the leak.
I did the claim with American Home Shield online. But because I was having issues, the secondary damages, I called to find out if that was covered under the protection warranty, and also to see if I can expedite matters to get somebody out here as soon as possible. The rep was very good. He stayed on the phone trying to find out if somebody could fix it the following day. He asked different service providers.

The last claim we reported to American Home Shield was our air conditioning. The company that they referred us to, that came out here the first time, filled the AC with Freon. For some reason, the unit worked for a few days and then it went back to not working. We called AHS again and they sent out the same company. They checked it and said everything was fine. They told us we needed to check things, like the filter. It then started cooling. But in about five days, we were right back to the heat. And when you’re living with it now for about five days, it gets to you. AHS sent out a different company. There’s a leak somewhere in the system because we’ve been suffering now off and on for about three weeks with a heat problem. The gentleman told me what they found wrong, but they said we had a warranty with the company that came out the first time.
American Home Shield has serviced very well. My wife and I have been married 20 some odd years, and we’ve had them both at the house that we had before and now this one. They get a contractor out here within two or three days depending on the contractor’s service they have, and we’ve had real good response except for this time with their contractor. It might be the company. They did not check something properly or they did not do a thorough job on checking it. The company is supposed to come out again today to check and see what’s wrong. I’m gonna tell them, “Look, these are the problems that the contractors that they sent with this last company out here said that he solved that probably weren’t taken care of," and something needs to be done or else we’re gonna completely tell American Home Shield to drop the contract. But this is the only big problem that we’ve had for the last month.

Third Generation Plumbing came out to fix our air conditioning issue, however, it took two weeks to get it fixed. The tech said that American Home Shield would pay for up to $140 for a window AC that we could use until the AC was fixed. I got that check, but the way that that check disclosure reads on the tab of the check is that by taking that, we’re taking payment for the AC. And I want to be sure that it doesn’t discontinue totally. We don’t want to give up our AC warranty. It was just an emergency fix because it was hot as blazes and my fiancé just had a surgery then. He said it will help alleviate the heat until we can get the AC fixed. So, it saved our lives. We've had AHS since my fiancé purchased the condo in ’07 and they replaced a lot of things. I’m a real estate agent and I always tell people that American Home Shield is the one that I had seen in action, and they do provide service.

Prestige Plumbing Services was sent by American Home Shield for a broken door on my microwave. The microwave itself worked fine for 10 years, and then that door got weak and the handle got broken as I pulled it open. And so, I submitted a request for a new handle to be installed, and Prestige came out. It took them two weeks to get out here, but they got out here. I was told that they would be able to submit the claim to AHS and that there would be no problem, and AHS would pay for a new handle. I told them at that time, “No. Sometimes, American Home Shield will say that something is too expensive or say if there needs to be shared money or whatever.” The guy said, “No, that’s not gonna happen in this case. Don’t worry about it. They'll pay for it and we'll be able to get the door handle fixed and all that.”
What happened was I got a call from AHS and they said, “Oh, you treated that door badly, so it got broken from not normal wear and tear, but from you guys being rough.” Poly and I didn’t break it and that was not a true statement, but that was what they said. Then they said they would not pay for it. They only have one guy that’s a roamer in my area, and he had problems with family. He couldn’t make it out on the day that we discussed. Finally, they did come out, but they had a window of 12:00 to 6:00. A six-hour window. So, we had to be there to wait for them because sooner or later inside that window, they would show up. So, it wasn’t a good experience with them. I didn’t like the experience. AHS denied my claim because they said it was handled roughly. So, it wouldn’t have mattered if it was $10, they wouldn’t have paid for it still.

I went through automated prompts for the first call. When they found out what was wrong with the air conditioner, they had to send somebody else out. And I talked to someone the second time. When Service One Air’s contractor first came out, they were out that same day. It was pretty quick. He found the problem, which ended up not their problem. It was electrical thing, but I had a bad breaker.
I had to have an electrician to come out. That’s when I talked to someone. They got the issue fixed the following day. So, I didn’t have air conditioner for one whole day and part of another day. That was the time we figured all that out, and it was the next day before they could get out. But it didn’t take them very long, and it’s been working great since. I was pleased with how quickly they came out, and they solved the problem. And even though I had to have the second person out, they found out quickly what it was.

Then you get an email saying that the policy is now in effect. But you don't really know what you're supposed to do. I have been an advocate for American Home Shield for years. We’ve had their service in our home since we’ve lived here, which is almost going on 21 years. We’ve been off and on because we’ve tried other services and have not been happy with them in the past and have always come back. I’m a marketing agency and whenever I see people asking about home warranty companies, I have been the first one to promote AHS. And I will no longer do that. Their level of service has gone so far downhill, I can’t even believe it. I had a horrible experience.
The rack of the dishwasher was bad. AHS sent out a new rack, and it was so high up, it had come out with a new rack for it, and glasses couldn’t even fit in there. It was ridiculous and it didn’t wash. It was just a terrible dishwasher. AHS was gonna replace it with the same one again and I said that I would like to try another one even if I have to pay an upcharge for it. They said that I should look for what I want and find something within the same price range. But if not, they’d let me know how much more it would be. They also told me to call them back when I'd find one. I said that I picked out one already but I didn't have it with me at that time as I was in a meeting. I told them that I'd call in the afternoon.
When I called back, the person I spoke to said that they don’t do that anymore and that I have to speak to a special department that they have just for GE now, and they’re the only ones doing that. So, I called and spoke to this department, and the lady informed me the same thing and that I could take or leave with the one that they all offered. I explained to her why I didn’t wanna do that. I went round and round on the phone and I asked her if I could escalate it to a supervisor. At first, she said that she didn’t have a supervisor that I could talk to. I told her that I could hold for a while. She said that she'll have someone call me back in three to five business days. I told her that I’d really like to talk to somebody sooner than that as my option time frame was coming to an end. I couldn’t wait that long. Then she said, “No one is going to call you back ever. This is your option. You can take it or leave it.” That is inexcusable customer service.
I asked for the number of the corporate headquarters and she said that she doesn’t even know where they’re located and that the headquarters doesn't give their number. And so I went online, looked it up, and I got a phone number. But when I called there, they just route me back into customer service when they transferred my call. It did me absolutely no good. After dealing with this for about five days, I ended up just placing my complaint with the Better Business Bureau because I felt like there was no other option that I had because no one was listening.
In the meantime, I had called back and gotten a regular department that normally handles the swap-outs of stuff. However, I had spoken to somebody else who said that I should be able to do what the first person had said where I could swap my dishwasher out. But this other person’s telling me the GE department has this new policy that went into effect on August 9th, which happened to be the same day that I filed this claim with her.
So, going round and round, wrote the letter to Better Business Bureau, someone responded. They were definitely misguided on what the process was despite my long thing that I had written. Then, I received an email with various options and I just had to pick one. It also said that there was no phone number I could call. So I picked one and it was within the free range. It was fine, I’ve gotten it, and all’s well with the world again. I feel like 20 years of good service certainly outweigh one bad experience. But the bad experience was so bad and it didn’t need to be like that. It caused a ridiculous amount of stress because it went on for weeks. It was one particular employee who treated me that way and that one person left a really bad taste in my mouth. That person is definitely misinformed of how the situation happened.

This is in regards to the air conditioning contractor, Air Doctor. We called them out because the unit had frozen up and the technician came out last week on Thursday. He replaced the capacitor but the next day, the unit froze up again. Then he came in yesterday and said he was gonna do an extensive check on the system. Well, why didn't he do that on Thursday? He just found one thing and that was it – he stopped at that? Then he had to waste my time because the next earliest appointment is on a Monday in the morning and I had to take time off from work. It was an inconvenience because he probably didn't do everything that he should have done the previous day.
It's an outdated unit and it could be probably getting to a point of being replaced. But he said there were certain things with the unit that just weren't gonna pass and that the fine print of the policy won't constitute it as something that Home Shield is gonna replace. They're not gonna cover the replacement of the unit because the fan is pretty dirty and stuff like that. So we had probably thrown away $500 in getting a protection from American Home Shield and this guy was not doing a good job. On top of that, he had given me a quote for a replacement unit that is way overpriced compared to the current market. I had chosen Home Shield as they seemed to be a better option, compared to other companies. But right now, I'm completely disappointed with their service and their representation down here. I've had a couple of other experiences and the plumbing one was well taken care of. But this one, I'm not satisfied with.

The only bad experience with American Home Shield was when I had to talk with an agent or a representative in the previous claims. I think they have started outsourcing their call center and it's to a foreign country. I'm all about it except for the fact that I cannot understand anybody and they can't understand me. I spent most of the time trying to explain what I was talking about in a very simple and basic manner on what appliance or what component. I've been with American Home Shield since February of this year. I’ve submitted claims both online and through phone, and the easiest for me is online. The reps I've spoken with have been fine. With our initial complaints, they sent out a company that was not the best. They came out three different times, and they never resolved the problem with our clothes washer or the refrigerator. And finally, we just asked AHS for that company not to be sent out again. Most recently, I had two claims. One was on the clothes dryer and that went great. The contractor diagnosed it right away, and came back the next day with the parts and fixed it. It’s running great now. The second claim I made was on my Sub-Zero refrigerator, which is a much more high-end product. The contractor determined that the fan for defrosting the refrigerator was faulty and he replaced that. However, the temperature in the refrigerator is rising again and hopefully, it’ll stabilize and it’ll be fine.
AHS asked that we get our own contractor, because their contractors hadn’t been able to resolve it. A gentleman came out that was recommended to us by the Sub-Zero of Greenville, South Carolina. He got it going for a couple of weeks and then it started to rise again. As of this morning, after eight hours being closed, it was set on six. It recommends it be set on five, which is a higher temperature, but I moved it up to six. And when I got up this morning, it was at 44 degrees, and we’d like it about 38. Right now, it's at 48. His diagnosis was that he did everything that he could. Everything was working, but he felt the refrigerator needed to have a full work over looking at the condenser and the coils. It’s 20-year old and it hadn’t been used for two years because the house had been vacant for two years before we bought it. We’ll see what happens with it, but when they couldn’t fix the clothes washer, they sent us a brand new machine, which was great.

Our AC wasn’t working for seven days and submitting the claim with American Home Shield over the phone would get the job done. Valleywide Cooling analyzed what needed to be done and they did a fine job. I would recommend them. Their technician was very thorough and he was here about an hour and a half and he gave me lots of detailed information. He reported everything back to American Home Shield, but they dragged their feet on it for a little while. When the service provider doesn't come out at all and the claim is for air conditioning and it's 115 degrees out, AHS should be following up. I ended up hiring somebody to put in a new air conditioning unit because I wasn’t gonna wait another seven days. But AHS did reimburse us for some of the cost through our warranty program.

The service guy from ARRQ Appliance Services was great. He did a very good job. He's very thorough, cleaned out parts of the dishwasher, and really went above and beyond. Also, he correctly diagnosed what was wrong with our machine. We have had multiple service calls prior to this guy coming. We've been with American Home Shield for 20 years. We’ve been, for the most part, satisfied with the program. We submit claims over the phone, and their representatives do a good job.
Original Review: Oct. 1, 2019
I’ve been with American Home Shield since I closed on this house on August the 15th and I submitted a claim when the sump pump went out. The representatives were very pleasant but the interaction with the contractor was awful. He came out and said that the sump pump was out but the inspector who inspected our house should have caught it. The contractor who did this house had the pipes behind some wood and you had to unscrew it. He said that he couldn’t touch it and that he didn't have time for that, and that this job could cost thousands of dollars. I said that we could take the screw away now and he said that I would have to reschedule for next week.
The contractor was really rude and I wouldn't want him back at my house. I'm not a plumber and I don't need him saying that I need to fix this and that. So, I bit the bullet and paid for it myself. I called another contractor outside of AHS who came and did the job in less than three hours and charged me $625. I have paid AHS $225 and increments of 75 and never had a problem resolved so, I was just wasting money.
I've had nothing but problems with this house since I moved in here. Even the air conditioning doesn't work and I had to go out and buy one. As long as AHS sends their contractors out and as long as they can check the temperature at the air conditioner, they would say it's doing fine, no matter what it's doing in the house. Also, as long as the machine is functioning to the capacity that it does blow out cold air, then it's fine. They escalated the issue and sent out another contractor for the air conditioner, only to say that the machine was functioning as it should be. I told them to write down that the house was at 83 degrees and the machine hasn't been running. I just got my electricity bill and it was $461. So I knew that there was something wrong. I resolved that there's nothing I can do about that. They don't wanna fix it and they don't wanna replace it. There’s no problem with the customer service of AHS but I would never recommend them ever.

Other than that, the contractors were friendly. Comfort Systems of York County did what they were supposed to do. They got the job done. It was a great experience. Right now, everything is working a lot better. I would tell everyone else if they need a home warranty, they should definitely give Home Shield a call. Chesapeake Plumbing and Heating came out and fixed my garbage disposal which wasn't really a big problem. It was just a matter of resetting the button and tightening up something, and it was done. The contractor was very professional. He came on time and got through the problem very quickly. He explained what happened, and he was on his way. It went well.
It would be over five years that I've been with American Home Shield and I feel great about their claim submission process. It wasn't long. They had somebody to contact me and to let me know the timing that they would be out, and they were out between the times that they scheduled to be there. The quality of work is outstanding and it's reasonable. I would tell American Home Shield to keep doing what they're doing and to not change anything. Darika, a Social Media Specialist for American Home Shield contacted me. She asked me to send her the reimbursement paperwork to her and she would resubmit it to AHS (making this the 3rd time it was sent). I did that and she followed up with emails to me on the status. After another 2 weeks I received the reimbursement check. Darika was critical in getting the money owed me, and I thank her very much. My overall experience with AHS was still poor. AHS gets 2 stars from me now.

I have been a customer of AHS with two houses for a total of approximately 6 years, starting in 2008, and have usually received fair service. However, in line with many reviews on-line I have sadly now experienced their apparent shift in focus to putting more effort into finding reasons to deny a claim than to honour the warranty they have gladly taken money to provide.
In May 2019 we call for a fault with one of the motors on an above ground spa and paid the $75 for the technician to inspect; we were told it was the pump (this I knew, it was actually the Aux pump as it was making a screeching noise when turned on, using the button marked "Aux" on the control panel) and that it would be replaced under warranty subject to paying $230 for the spa company to drain the spa and refill.
At the time I intended to call AHS to dispute the $230 as I saw no reason why draining and refilling a spa would be an out of pocket expense to myself - spas contain water, to work on one surely this is a requirement. With summer, we let the issue drop until the spa stopped working in September, upon which we called AHS, paid another $75 for the same company to come and inspect the spa.
The second inspection diagnosed the Aux pump, the claim was denied as Aux pumps are not covered. Several phone calls later, with days in between waiting for calls back, and they finally offer to send another technician from a different company to inspect, waive the $75 call out fee and reimburse the $75 for the call out in September, progress.
A call back 3 days later, and a "higher up authority" has deemed they will do no such thing. They will not cover the Aux pump, claim the may fault was not the Aux pump but was the main pump, but will not honour that claim as they have closed it (the main pump ran without issue until the second call out). So current we appear to have a spa with neither the main or Aux pump working, and AHS has exhausted all options and stated there is no option but to pay close to $1000 for the repairs.
In my opinion, this is nothing short of AHS avoiding any cost, which considering the spa coverage is an additional cost to the main home warranty is beyond reason. Left with no option or assistance from AHS, I have been left with no option but to wait for a call to arrange a buy out of the warranty. So far, we have paid $150 and been told the solution is then to pay another $1000 to repair an item we naively considered to be protected by the warranty we have been paying for.
I would highly recommend AHS if you like spending hours on the phone, having to wait for calls back that don't come and then being completely at the mercy of their 'diagnosis reports' and what they tell you they say, without having access to them, despite having paid for the diagnosis yourself.... Absolutely not worth the paper it's printed on.

Submitted a claim on 9/5 for a washing machine repair, got a response within 24 hours from the contractor. They came out and diagnosed the problem and told he would need to order a couple of parts, but was skeptical the washer could be fixed. I followed up with Home Shield on the 13th and was told the parts would arrive by the 16th and sure enough, the technician came out of the 17th to install the two parts. No surprise, the parts didn't fix the problem, and he told us he would order more parts and again expressed skepticism that the washer is repairable.
Followed up again with Home Shield today, 9/30 and they are still waiting for parts to arrive but couldn't provide an ETA. We are a family of 7 and going almost a month with a washer is a disaster. If I had known it would take a month or longer to have an appliance repaired, I would've never bought the Home Shield plan and purchased a new washer out of pocket. It costs about $48 a week to do our laundry at the washeteria.

I finally caved in and purchased American Shield after my niece kept bragging how wonderful it is. Well my experience has been the total opposite. Within a week a purchasing it my a/c started leaking water into my home roughly over an inch. In the bucket up to 5. It took AHS 24 hours to get someone out there(I knew this) the contractor just took pictures of the water and unit and said my pipes where clogged and Said needed a plumber and he wouldn’t touch the a/c. Cost $75.00 and nothing done. Next day a plumber came out which cost me an additional 75.00. AHS gave some BS that it’s not their responsibility. The plumber said there is nothing wrong with my plumbing. The leak is coming from the top of the unit.
I called AHS. They sent out for a second opinion 24 hrs later. It’s now been 5 days. The technician knew exactly what was wrong but before fixing it he needed to write a work order form. His boss told him he could NOT fix it without taking pictures and submitting them first to AHS for their approval. It is Friday morning and as you can all guess they close on weekends and have no one to review the forms. It is now Monday morning, when I called them again they first said they never received the second opinion after which they proceeded to say the review committee will review the report and it will take up to 48 hours. It has now been a full week!!
This is the worst company. I am within my 30 days to cancel my contract which is what I’ll be doing next and hiring a real a/c company to fix my problem. Save yourself the stress and headache. They make money by denying and fixing only small parts do you have to keep having technicians come out. This actually came out of the mouth of one of their techs.

ASAP Plumbing Services really went above and beyond what I anticipated. They serviced several things including a toilet issue and a drain issue, and since those all involved the master bathroom, the repair affected us quite significantly. They really did a great job. Their communication was also very good. They’re someone that I’d recommend American Home Shield to retain. Sometimes you get the warranty companies and while we all think they’ll still all be great, they’re not. But in this case, ASAP really was involved and did the right thing versus just whatever. So they deserve some credit.
I had submitted this claim online and the website was really good. I appreciate the opportunity to select one of the various contractors. Even though the price of the warranty seems to continue to go up due to the prices going up, I would be more likely to renew again because of the service I receive. I’ve even already told multiple people that while it’s not inexpensive, they do follow up and I feel that it’s worth the price paid.

I would absolutely NOT recommend AHS to anyone. We have been dealing with a claim since 8/19 and currently (9/29) it is still not resolved. We had a leak from and upstairs bathroom. The technician they sent out opened up the ceiling in the room below to try to figure out where the leak was coming from. He could not gain access from this point, so he went back upstairs (where he should have started in the first place) and gained access from the wall behind the shower. He was able to make the necessary repair. When he left he said he would keep the claim 'open' so that they could come back out to repair the drywall.
When I called AHS to set up this appointment, they said the case was closed and they couldn't do anything.. leaving us with large holes in our drywall in two different locations in the home. We finally got the issue escalated and after days waiting and hours debating on the phone, we were able to have another company assigned to make the repairs. We were told the second company would reach out to us to schedule the repair...
A week later we still had not heard from them, so we called them directly, They said they didn't have a work order from AHS. I called AHS back and again, after much time wasted on the phone, finally got it sorted out. When the company called back to schedule the repair, they couldn't come out until 4 days later.. at 6pm on Friday the 13th. The guy came out, did about 1/3 of the repair work (which was done improperly-- chipping and flaking off), and said he had to leave and finish another day. His only availability was the NEXT Saturday, the 21st. During the week leading up to the 21st, he called and canceled, saying he could come the NEXT Saturday, the 28th. The morning of the 28th he called and said he couldn't make it.
At this point, I called AHS back again.. spent over 4 hours on the phone with them trying to figure out how to handle the situation. Each person we spoke with gave us a different answer- none of which made any sense. "There is nothing we can do but reschedule again", "we can close the claim", "you can pay another service fee for a new contractor" and many other responses which sounded as if they were being read off of a script.
Finally, my husband was able to speak with someone who was slightly helpful, we thought (we later found out was actually just telling us lies to get us off the phone). He said he would send someone out the next morning to make all of the repairs and he specified that the work would be done to get the wall and ceiling back to the original condition. We agreed to this and waited for the worker to come out the next day (today, Sunday the 29th).
At this point we have wasted many hours on the phone, had two inaccessible rooms in our home for nearly 6 weeks, and have spent our entire weekend sitting at home either waiting for a worker to show up, or being on the phone with AHS. When the worker started to pack up and leave, we asked when he would be coming back to finish the work (sanding and painting) and we were told that he would not be performing those tasks, and we needed to contact AHS. We called back multiple times today, and could not get anyone to give us an answer on when this will be done. Again, we received many different conflicting answers and have no idea what our next step should be. I have reached out multiple times and on many different platforms over the past several weeks, trying to get someone from CS to help, but cannot get a response.
Hi Sarah,
I understand your frustration with the delay in service and drywall repair. AHS will cover drywall and return to a rough finish. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I called in on a Monday morning, and by 10:30, I had filed a claim with American Home Shield. Allstate Plumbing was quick to answer my call. They responded and got with me and set up an appointment and came right out. They were on time and fixed the problem and left. They did an excellent job. On the other hand, the contractor for my electrical, At Home Services, was two and three hours late. They said they'd be there at 10:00. They showed up at 1:00. My two grown sons pointed out that the man was drinking on the job. I told that to At Home Services.
He was nice but he left in the middle of a job and left two of his workers there. The workers even called in and have him come back. He was gonna leave and said it was fixed. I went back in and hit the switch box of the circuit breaker. I told my son to turn on the lamp and it wouldn't turn on! The man said that he'd write up that he's finished and come back. I told him that it was not working and two circuit breakers were totally out. He came back with two of those in, were extremely dusty, and weren't in a case. I don't know if he took them out of another job. So far, they're lasting. I waited a month to finally get it finished. In six to eight months, when the breakers go, the warranty is over, I'm gonna have to start over again, and I was not happy at all with that.
I had a poor experience with a plumber seven years ago and AHS assigned him to me again. I said, "No, I won't." And they sent another one. I was happy because this is an automated system, and I will have to get a live person to say that I won't take At Home Services again for anything electrical. Overall, American Home Shield seemed to provide me good services.

I called in my claim and it was automated. I usually talk to somebody when I’ve had to do it in the past, but this time, it didn’t get that far. It just took care of it, automated, and that was fine. It went good. However, the tech couldn’t seem to figure it out so he wanted to come out and make a whole day thing of it and redo everything up under the ground. And I didn’t know this, but the lady said it wasn’t covered. That’s something that I wasn’t too happy about because that’s one of the reasons I liked AHS' warranty - it’s because it covered electric and everything. And then, all of a sudden, they come up with, “Oh, that’s not covered.” “What are you talking about it’s not covered? If it’s an electric problem and if they have to dig a little bit, that’s still electric.”
I’d like to check in to that and see if that’s accurate. That really needs to be looked at because that’s false advertisement. I’ve already recommended AHS to many people but that’s one thing that is gonna stop people from wanting to be there because if you tell them that something is covered and then, “Oh, well, sorry. We have to do this? ‘Cause this part is not covered,” people wouldn't go with them.

He was very personable, polite, accurate and quick. And I learned something about my house that I didn't know. The issue was caused by a leak, and I didn't know that a water leak will automatically shut down the AC. He explained this, fixed the AC and was out of there in no time. Now, my AC is working better than it's ever worked.
This is why I've had Home Shield for over nine years, and why I'll have them into the future. Because every time I've used them, it's been this good. I've had my refrigerator fixed more than twice. AHS sent out Fleshers Refrigeration for our claim. It really impressed me that they came right away. Usually, you have to wait a day or two. It went good. All it was was one wire that popped out from the blower. And all they did was push it back in and tighten it and everything works.

I called AHS, submitted a claim, and then they sent me an email saying who the vendor would be. I looked the vendor up online so I knew that they were close. Our air conditioning went out on a Sunday night and the contractor called first thing Monday morning. I appreciated that I didn’t have to reach out to them. They contacted me. It had to have been first thing when they opened. They were able to get someone to our house that day, and then they were able to fix the problem.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield goes well. On my most recent claim, Bill Rogers Electric came in, they fixed the issue, and it was amazing. I would definitely use them again. I would prefer it if more services were able to work over the weekend. That's not always possible. It’d be really nice if that was one of the options.

I’m going on my third year with American Home Shield and everything has been pretty good, so far. Also, it's pretty easy to submit claims online. When I had a technician come out for my AC claim, I didn’t have time to get home. He went in the backyard and checked the gauges and told me what happened. I was having some construction done on my house and they were putting up new siding, and they drove a nail through the line that holds all the refrigerant and it leaked out. I had the people that were doing construction go out there and fix it. The technician did everything before I could even get home to be there. He did great and it didn’t cost me anything. This is the second time that same guy has come out. They always do a good job. Overall, I'm happy with everything.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and it wasn’t too bad. I wasn’t sure exactly what to put, but I knew it was electrical, so that was what I put. The contractor came in, and he opened up the light area and checked the light switch. He determined that it was the ballast in the light and proceeded to replace it. When he was screwing it back in, something on the ballast broke or on the light itself. So, he just screwed it in to the light casing and tried to fix it that way. He ended up re-screwing it in another position to get it to stay up there but it works. Other than that, it was a quick and pleasant experience. I also had an issue with my toilet and the guy who came out told me I needed to replace it. So, he was talking like 300 bucks and I could buy a toilet for cheaper than that and put it in myself. So, we just took it off and we got the piece out that was clogging it up, and it didn’t cost us anything but a toilet seal.

My garbage disposal was not functioning. The AHS contractor came out. He was very timely and knowledgeable. He knew what he needed to do. He went in and turned the switch on the bottom of it to reset it, which I was not aware of, and it didn't turn on. Then he took what was like an Allen wrench and put it in it, and moved the blades, then turned it on again, and the blades did move, but then he also noticed there was a leak in the seal. He said that it had to be replaced because we can’t deal when the seal breaks so he looked into making sure it was approved, then went and looked for the new replacement item. Had the item and installed it the same day, and it’s back up and running. It’s been working great so far.

I don’t like American Home Shield’s representatives. Half of them can’t speak or understand English very well and it’s very annoying because they talk you to death. They say, “Well, Sir, we really appreciate your business today, and we’re so happy that you called. We just want to take the best possible…” I don’t want to hear all that crap. I need them to ask me all the appropriate questions directly and then get off the phone. By the time they’re talking you to death, you get in there and they say, “We need to verify your information.” You say it and they can’t understand you and you repeat it back. This happens all the time.
My experiences with the plumbing and the air conditioning haven’t been great at all. I was on the fence of whether to even renew with AHS. But because of my experience with the microwave, I thought I'd give them one more chance and that’s it. The contractors that came out from Cooper Appliances were professional in the house. They didn’t scratch anything. They were neat, friendly and did a wonderful job. They’re one of the best contractors that’s been out yet. They kept it over a week then they had to come back and reinstall it.

American Home Shield's pricing was fair and reasonable. I saw one of the ads on the TV as well, so I decided to check out the company and give them a chance. I normally call them even though there's an online option. Then they immediately put the work order in when I call. Everything is fine. My biggest challenge is when the work order is cut, getting the company to be accommodating to the customer. It seems the customer has to cater to the contracted companies' timeframe. For instance, when it first went out, we were experiencing a heat wave for two weeks straight at 90 degrees to 92 degrees every single day. It was a Friday when it happened and they couldn't come out. They don't do emergencies, even though we were burning up inside of here. They don't work on weekends. So, I was almost to the point to going to get a hotel. It was so ridiculous that I had to wait till Monday.
And then, that was challenging because I live alone and they want you to stay home for three hours. They would tell you, "Well, I'll be there between 9 and 12. You're not the only customer." A lot of companies do that, but it doesn't cater for the person that lives alone, and I would have to take sick time, which I couldn't. It was a struggle trying to get the company to come out. I explained to one of the representatives, "You should pass it on, that you guys need to look for and add a company in there." Because I see them locally advertised that they have 24/7 service. If I have an emergency at night or somebody, and they have little children in the house Friday night, we can't wait till Monday morning for somebody to come take a look at it. So I have a big issue with that that all the contracted companies are your typical 8 to 4, 9 to 5.
I've had three service calls about this air condition in the space of three months or less. It was a different company that came twice. For some reason, they thought they found the issue. They replaced some parts, but it wasn't fixed. So a few weeks later, it went back to the same issue. When Automatic Control came out, the guy took his time and actually went through the entire system, hence he found one of the lines had a leak, and that was the problem from the get-go, that the other company couldn't figure out. So I was very pleased with the service and the experience of the technician.

The guy from Stilwell Plumbing fixed the sink in the kitchen, so there's no more leak. Also, the hose water valve was blocked, so they changed the valve. The kitchen problem is now fixed. The contractor was very good. The only thing was the time schedule was 12:00 to 2:00, and they arrived late in the scheduled time. Other than that, I recommend American Home Shield. We still have one problem in the second floor bathroom where there seems a burst pipe leak, and the water inside the wall flowed to the roof of the first floor causing damage on the roof of the first floor. I’ve had a guy say that they only cover the pipe in the sink. They asked us to file a claim for this bathroom leakage.

Sometimes we wondered on a couple if they were as knowledgeable as they should be but haven't had any bad experiences with them. I do the service requests online because it seems to be the fastest and easiest way to get it in there. And then, we wait for them to call us back or text us and schedule the appointment. But AHS could have a little cheaper service call because whether I have something small or big, it's $100.

And then, with my busy work schedule, sometimes it's hard for me to really find a time to really repair a lot of these items. My knowledge is a little bit on the light side as well when it comes to a lot of the things that break down around the house.

I call American Home Shield and they’re excellent once you get past the computer. The computer, as most computers do, don’t recognize the difficulty when you try and stipulate what the problem is, and then it comes back and tells you something else. And so, you get frustrated with that. But once you get to a live person, everything works out great. They’ve always been very responsive.
Central Electric Contractors came out for my ceiling fan in the master bedroom. In the first instance, they did not have a switch. The switch was broken and defective, so they had to order a chain switch. The second time, the gentleman finally put in a switch, but it was only a two-speed switch versus a three-speed. Apparently, the manufacturer sent them the wrong one. The tech said he had to order a three-speed, so he would talk to the office and have them do that. However, I have not heard back from them yet. That was two weeks ago. I just don’t wanna bug them. I’m trying to give them time.

We were happy with the work done until we had someone come back a couple days later and show us a big gap in the ductwork that he said there was no problem in.
We were looking at getting other work done. And I had already had TVA come out to do a energy survey, and they had already told us that there was a low flow back there. Then, when he came out, he just said, we just needed a 6-inch duct. But it’s more like a 6-foot duct that was needed. I contacted AHS and I’m assuming they’re still investigating. With it still having a gap there, it’s still doing the same thing. We’re getting low airflow in our two bedrooms. Everything went well with the plumber that Home Shield sent out. He installed faucet. The faucets in the two bathrooms didn't work. He fixed those the first time. With the faucet in the kitchen, he wanted to replace it with what I had, but I wanted one that I could spray with and the one I had didn't, so I bought a new one. I bought a Moen and he came and fixed it. He was good. The faucet is working great and I got what I want. I was very pleased with the plumber.
But when the air conditioning contractor came, I ended up having to pay over $1,200 on that, which surprised me. When I went out at 12 o'clock it was 72 degrees in here and I left it on, like he told me, on order, and then on cool. And when I came home, it was 84 degrees and there was no cold air coming in. It was air, but it wasn't cold. So, I looked it up online to go ahead and figure out what's already in there. I changed it to 74 degrees. I'm hoping that it's gonna work today that when that temperature gets to 74 that it's gonna kick in and get cold air. I've not had any cold air in this place since we moved. And when it gets up to 92 when you come home from work, it's not really good. But so far, I haven't had cold air.

Updated on 10/11/2019: So, the company say to call them regarding my experience and review. The kept the review in convenient limbo by writing to me directly by email. When I call the number and extension for "Mariah", I get in a laboured MALE Indian Accent "fourrr treeeeee treeee fourr" " then the computer "Leave a message" BEEEEP. Well as I said Do not use and they are the worst. They know they did wrong by not getting any authorization for the work so now I will have to seek resolution through a "real" agency complaint through the State Attorney Office, and I thinks I will do some Small Claims action against them and the vendor. Stinks, but they have deep pockets and will not even try to resolve. I was told that AHS is one of the worst to pay vendors and they are remarkably "cheap". This is why you get so many sub par contractors. The good ones cannot afford the rates AHS will pay I guess.
Original review: My air conditioning units are almost 20 years old. Every 6 months there is some form of failure, and usually with my $68 a month premium and $50 per trip deductible they come and fix it. This summer my AC went out again and they sent vendor to look at it. The guy hangs out all day, and in the end when he sums up says the unit is too old, the R21 refrigerant is being phased out this year and it's so old not worth fixing. He said it needed an "?exchanger and a bunch of other parts" and said "I don't even touch stuff this old". He then says "I'm going to get you a new unit" I said "HAHAHA NO WAY AHS NEVER REPLACES ANYTHING - it's repair till doomsday and band aid whenever possible. He says "Well I don't even work on junk this old, it's a dinosaur, I promise i'll get it, and I've got them before to cover t"...so off he goes.....
Weeks go by - no contact from anyone. I check the web site and it says "Parts ordered". A few days later I call AHS and the phone said I have to call the vendor. Left a couple messages with the local repair. No answer or return call. (Going on 4-5 weeks no AC, South Carolina, Summer.) Call the AHS again and get "Call center" in india or similar and a lady speaking in mediocre english following a strict phone scrip and Cust service flowchart takes my message that:
1) I want to know WHAT was ordered2) What will be fixed
3) And mostly WHEN
"Let me call the vendor and check". 20 mins on hold and nothing...She comes on and says "no one answered but we will let you know and call you back". About 10 days later on a Friday I get a call from the vendor wanting to schedule "installation" on Tuesday. I said fine. They come tuesday to replace the exchange unit only. Not the AC - just a major part. Ok I dont care almost 2 months of 100 degree weather with all the issues on my house from the heat and humidity as long as it was fixed I'm good. So they come and took 2 days to install. Also SEVERAL TIMES I asked for a duct work estimate that no one wanted to give or touch. AHS loves for you to hit them with a $50 every issue even if it's semi related. Never got that quote... Anyway, the guy gets done with it and said "Ok how do you want to cover the non covered portion?" I'm like the WHAT? He tells me ....."that'll be $1060.00".
I CANT GET A TIME WHEN THEY ARE COMING - I CANT FIND OUT SQUAT ABOUT THE "PART" ORDERED AND THEY SHOW UP AND SLAP ME WITH A GRAND? Then the vendor company "LOW COUNTRY HEATING AND AIR" Boss calls and says "AHS is cheap and if you don't pay they guy doesn't get paid on and on - tells me and admits that AHS and him agreed that I have NO ESTIMATE OF FINAL REPAIR and they got no approval from me - NO APPROVAL GIVEN to do it with the price then guilted me into paying him. AHS has had 2 calls to sort this and they have violated the law with no consent from me. As a result I have had a financial strain on me to add it all up and time lost dealing with it.
No return calls - just placation and patronizing from MR ** and Ms **, aka Jim and Debbie. Yes Im mad. Broken promises and a G bill later nothing.. I'm still going to the attorney general and the rest. I will be taking them to small claims also. I've had it. 2 yrs prior they badly repaired my fridge, came back (for another $50 and it is as bad as ever because THEY DIDN'T CHECK THE FREEZER DOOR HARDWARE and blew me off as usual. As a result I am ordering the parts and fixing it myself because they just cannot be counted on at AHS for more than basic handyman BS or for overcharging with out my permission. Would NOT recommend.
Hi Kirtus,
Your concerns and frustration are more than understanding with regard to the air conditioner repairs that are not completed. I would be glad to speak with you to discuss the part and noncovered cost.

At least 10 calls to somewhere outside USA to get help, disconnected multiple times, one rep. refused to connect me with escalation team or a supervisor. I was charged at least 3 times $125 service fee the same request. As of 9/29/19, I received no help from AHS and had to hire an outside contractor. They only recourse for some reimbursement and waiving excessive/overcharged service fees per contract. Has been filing complaints with BBB, Dept of Consumer Affairs and Atty. Generals Office. There is no online way to submit complaint or request claim, I have wasted nearly 5 hours on the phone with AHS with no resolution. Only frustration and disappointment.
Good Morning Stan,

My AC wasn’t blowing any cold air and the toilet was leaking. A tech came out for the AC and tried to rip me off by telling me I needed to replace the unit. He was somebody that I contacted because I was desperate at the time. But when I submitted a claim with AHS and they sent out their contractor, it turned out that all that had to be done was to flip the breaker switch. So, I’m glad that this guy came in because it saved me about $6,000.
The tech who came for the toilet did a good job, too. He had a part replaced which took about a week to order. Then we had a few more days to reschedule for him to come out and put that in because I work in Odessa and I live in Midland, so Friday afternoon is the only day I can have a contractor come because of my job. But that worked out fine. He was in and out within a half an hour or so. Other than that, I submitted my claims online and the process was very easy. And since the repairs, the performances of the AC and toilet have been very reliable.

My AC has gone out twice. The first time, the issue was the coil upstairs. AHS's contractor, Climate Express came out and had to order a part. It got in pretty quickly and they were on the job the next week. The second time the AC went out, there were some wires outside that were too close to a capacitor and they were getting hot. The tech from Climate Express was really good. He went upstairs first to make sure there was no water in the pan. When he came back down, he went outside and he could hear that the compressor wasn’t running. He recognized the issue right away and lengthened the wires. The AC has been fine ever since. He let me know what he was doing the whole time.

I’ve spoken to American Home Shield reps on the phone a couple of times. The first time I made a request, the repair people called to let me know that what I was requesting wasn’t covered, but I called AHS and talked to them about it. They were nice and mostly helpful. The first time I tried to submit a claim, I did it over the phone and I was told that I didn’t have coverage on my AC units at all, which I knew was not true. The rep wouldn’t let me talk to somebody else, so I ended up hanging up, then calling back and getting someone else.
And since then, I just do it online, because I don’t like talking to people. It's great because I work in risk management. I spend all day on the phone at work. My job is to collect on property damage claims for a major truck stop company. So, when people run over our stuff, it’s my job to collect so I spend all day talking to insurance agents on the phone. So if AHS has a way to report something online, I’d do it online.
For my recent claim, Anthony’s TV & Appliance took a couple of days to come out, but that’s understandable since they’re probably the only appliance repair company that AHS uses in the area. It took the guy about three days to get there, but he fixed the unit quick and easy, and lubricated some wheels and things while was there. He did a great job.

We tried to change the filter on the refrigerator. It’s at the bottom of the refrigerator, and the filter did not go in. And then all of a sudden, it started to leak. Water was coming out of the filter area. So the refrigerator was pulled out of the wall, and the shut off valve was turned off. But I noticed that water started leaking again. I called American Home Shield, and they scheduled the appliance guy to come and fix the filter area since there was a part that was broken.
The appliance guy told me to go ahead and call the plumber because they couldn’t fix it until the plumber was called. So, I called American Home Shield, and they said they would get a plumber over. The rep was very efficient, and she called the plumber. He was here within about two hours. So, that was very efficient. I appreciated that a lot because once he fixed that, the leaking stopped. They had to replace the shut off valve for the water.
Both of the plumbing and appliance contractors were extremely professional and very efficient. I wasn’t happy that I had to wait another day to get the refrigerator fixed because it was sitting in the middle of my kitchen. But the plumber came right away, which I really appreciated. American Home Shield did a good job. I'm happy. As a matter of fact, I just renewed my contract with them.

American Home Shield sent Oak Valley Appliance for my microwave that quit working. There was no power to it, and then the burners on my stove were not working right. They were leaving black soot on our pots. The issue was a fuse was blown in the microwave. And then on the stove, it wasn’t covered under warranty because it was a manufacturer’s thing. It wasn’t set up for propane. So, I paid cash for that.
I filed the claim for the microwave over the phone, and I had good interaction with the claims representative. It was on a Friday, so the contractor came out the following week. He had to come back out for the microwave. It did the same thing again. He came out and checked it and said it might have been a bad fuse, but he took care of it right away. It’s a little glass fuse. It was working when he left, but all of a sudden, it stopped working again. He made a recommendation just in case, and we’ve done it, and nothing’s happened since then.
I’ve also used AHS one other time before that, and it was for my dryer, and things were done right. The contractors came out and they had to order the part on my dryer. It was in the morning, so that next day they had the part, and they came out and fixed it. AHS could change their automated system though. You try to put in your thing, and you have to call and call to get a hold of somebody and tell them, “Listen, that wasn’t the only thing I was calling about. I was calling about my burner.” And I had to let them know that there were two things wrong but I couldn’t do it. You can’t do it when you’re doing it on the internet. It took some running around to get both of my issues put on there. They need to do something about the way you report something. It’d be better if they had an operator instead of automated system. If you actually talked to a person, it’d be better. Other than that, I’m happy with the service.

Ray Stovall Plumbing was Johnny-on-the-spot with calling me back and they came out. When we left our lake home at 1:00 on a Thursday, they were working. When I went back on Sunday, the door to the attic was not closed. I realized that however they fixed the water heater, I realized that however they did it, there was a valve sticking out so the attic won't close.
I called Ray Stovall back and I told the rep that was gonna have to be fixed. They’ve billed my credit card $1,300 for the additional and the gentleman was supposed to come the previous Thursday but didn't show. He told me he would be at our lake house at 3:00 and we live far away from where that house is. So, we had to make plans and get someone there. I had a painter there whom I told to stay until the guy from Ray Stovall comes. I told the painter that the guy would be at the property at 3:00. At 4:00 the painter called me and told me that the guy hasn't come and that he needed to get on the road.
I called Ray Stovall and the guy told me he was still busy on another job. That didn't work out that day. So, when I called and let the people in New Orleans know of the issue, they were very nice an said that they will book an appointment and that the tech would come the following Wednesday to fix issue. I've been with American Home Shield for 14 years now and I’ve had more awful experiences than I’ve had good. It has something to do with the shoddy people that come out. When it comes right down to it, American Home Shield is the one that’s responsible for getting the contracts with these people. In a recent claim for my AC, I probably talked to AHS at least 15 times about the issues. The first company they assigned, Elite Heating and Air, wouldn’t show up or they’d say they’d be anywhere from 10:00 to 2:00. And then they call at 5:00 and say, “Hey, we’re at the house.” What part of 5:00 is anywhere close to between 10:00 and 2:00? There were no updates, no explanation, and they didn’t take the time. Then they said, “I thought everything’s working.” Like, “No, everything is not working.” If I turn it on, it is working technically but it takes 3 minutes to get going.
The property manager has been dealing with the issue for 3 weeks and Elite wouldn’t get back. So finally, she gave up and gave it to me. When I got involved, it took over two and a half weeks working with the company to get them here. And then they lied too. They said, “Oh, we’ve only been there twice,” which was crap. They’ve been here six times to look at the stuff, and not once did they explain what was going on or why it took 3 minutes to get the AC going. That 3 minutes is important because if it takes that long to get going then it probably needed to be serviced. It wouldn't have been a problem if it worked efficiently. The system is old and needed to be replaced. They just left and said, “Yeah, it wasn’t working.”
Then, Southern Air Conditioning and Heating was sent and they took the time. They called and met us when they said they were gonna meet us and coordinated like, “Hey, we can’t be there for another 15 minutes.” “No problem.” They kept in touch with us and they squared their way. The day when we got the call that they’re coming, I was at our property manager and they were like, “Hey, don’t worry about it. We’ll adjust as needed if you can’t get there right away.” They were fantastic. They did good and did all the things that they were supposed to do. They talked to the property manager and also explained what was going on with the system where the other company didn’t do it. I would recommend Southern.
