My fridge stopped being cool all of a sudden. I went online to make the claim and American Home Shield said they will have a person call me to schedule. Astro Appliance called me then they came out. They changed a starter and they said that would help the refrigerator. They fixed my fridge and so far, it's been good. It's cool. My icemaker, all of a sudden too was not making ice when I turned it on. I tried to reset it then I tried to clean it from the cleaning mode, but it still didn't make ice. I called American Home Shield for that too. On the whole, it was a very easy process to file a claim and it went very smoothly. The technician came as promised and the problem was resolved.
Astro was very professional. The technician that came was very nice and courteous, so I like them. The only thing that I asked was if they could give me a heads-up and call an hour before they came to my house because they had me waiting from 12:00 to 05:00. But they said they couldn't do that. I was like, “What? You expect me to wait from 12:00 to 05:00?” Come on. I could have done some other stuff in between. And then the rep said she could maybe give me a call 30 minutes ahead even though they normally didn't do that. I appreciated that even though I thought it was strange because when I called Sears or any other services for my other appliances, they would agree to call me an hour before. That way, I'm home to open the door.

The contractor did a great job and satisfied me. I had both of my sinks leaking and they stopped the leak. They put new pieces in each sink to stop the drip. The way it was dripping made the water bill go up and they stopped that. My wife wasn't satisfied because there was another job that they didn't do. The stoppers in the sink would go up and down, one that you close it for water to stay in and you open it to let it out. They didn't put those in there because they said that wasn't on their ticket so we had to call in for that and that's $100.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

I have had to call American Home Shield twice. The first time, I wasn't too thrilled with the contractor they sent to work on my heating unit. I couldn't understand what he was saying. He couldn't understand what I was saying. When I bought the house, a cage was put over the unit outside. He told me that I need to move the cage in case he had to go in. I'm 70 some years old and I can't be doing that. I just let it go because my grandson had to get somebody else to come back because it cut off again and come to find out, they had charged me for antifreeze. They put too much in there and had to take some out in order for it to run like it was supposed to. Then with my recent claim, Wester Electrical came out and the guy said it was a short in the switch in the hallway bathroom. He fixed the wiring.
We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us and please don't hesitate to reach out if you need us in the future. Enjoy your day.

I got dual sinks in the bathroom. The two sinks come together and then it drops and goes down and hit the main pipe before it goes out to the sewage. I live in the country so I'm mostly on septic. So the pipe that went down at the bottom had a stoppage from 10 years of usage in the bathroom. We called the claim in on Friday and Immediate Response was to come out the following Tuesday. At first, I got a little salty about it but it was not really an emergency to have somebody come overnight. Once they came out, they cleaned it out and resolved the issue. It went well and I was pretty happy with what I got from them. I've told my family and everybody if they're gonna buy home coverage, AHS is probably the best bet to go from what I’ve picked up on my last 20 years of owning homes.
Hi Herbet,
I am pleased to hear about the excellent service you have received. I hope you continue to enjoy!

For our plumbing issue, it took about a week for the contractors to come and they couldn't do anything. They said that the issue was that there were some sediments on the heater, and they would have to drain it, and that was supposedly not covered under the insurance. The issue has not been resolved. I've been calling but there has been no answer. This is the first issue I've had in a couple of years. Right now, I'm paying an insurance that really doesn't do anything for me.

I had a problem with the range hood. The exhaust fan was not working. Initially, I opened the ticket back in July and they told me that they would replace the fan. They ordered the fan and they were waiting for that order to be executed. But somehow that ticket was lost and when I followed up, they said the ticket has been closed. I reached out again to AHS in mid-September and the ticket has to be opened again. The same technician came by and he apologized saying, “Yes, we should have taken care of you.” This time, he ordered right in front of me. Then they came back on September 19 and got it fixed. The guy really helped. We had issue with one exhaust and he said he could see that there is a problem with the second one coming soon. So he replaced both the fans for us. He was pretty professional. He could see that the problem is coming so proactively and he handled it too. I'm totally satisfied.
I opened another ticket for my AC unit, which I'm waiting for the past two months. Hopefully, the guy will come today and get it resolved. But living in a home without AC for two months is a pain. But I'm preaching about AHS in our community and telling them how helpful they are for me, and that it will be helpful for them too. Anybody who doesn't have AHS and living in a home for more than whenever the warranty is expired, AHS is the place to go.

I had two policies with American Home Shield. I have a home in Texas that I sold in the summer which had the policy for five years and then I have my current home in Virginia, which I've had a policy for two or three years now. We recently called in a preventive maintenance sort of inspection that was done for our house here in Herndon, Virginia. YAZD Mechanical came out and we've been satisfied. There were no issues with that service at all.
In my experience with my Texas home, every time I call, I get somebody who's outside of the country and I'm hearing roosters in the background. I've asked for a supervisor to call, they won't transfer me to one. I got one callback and they still couldn't answer the problem. They just don't understand and I have to repeat everything over and over again. It's rare that I ever have to escalate something, but the process for escalating and being able to reach a supervisor is pretty terrible.
I had an issue with an electrical component with my pool and AHS said it's not being covered under the policy. I pointedly agreed, and even the technician said, that they were wrong, but he couldn't do anything about it. I had to fight that with them. So I just paid him with American Home Shield and the follow-up process was terrible. I couldn't get anywhere. I asked to be transferred to the equipment department regarding the appraisal 'cause I was told that's where it was being rejected. I could not speak to anyone other than a customer service agent despite calling multiple times and requesting to escalate and speak to somebody. The five times I called and spent an hour-plus on each call, I was just told I couldn't transfer, I have to put a request and have somebody call me back. I only got to callback one of those four or five times that I tried.
Hi Brian,
I would be glad to speak with you and assist to get the issues experienced resolved.

I've done my claims with American Home Shield both online and via phone and it's been easy. For a recent claim I had, Bestway Mechanical came out and they cut a hole in my wall. But it was a central problem that didn't require them doing that. They said they would come back again and repair the hole. They haven't done that yet though. Also, the leak is still there. The issue was not fixed so they would come to look at it again today. Another thing is American Home Shield needs to have a plainer language on what is covered and what is not, especially with the plumbing and electrical. Last time, I paid for someone to come out and tell me, "Oh, that's not covered."

American Home Shield sent All American Plumbing & Rooter to work on all the toilets in my house. One of the toilets was leaking between the actual stool and the base on the floor. Another one was low pressure. The tub wasn’t draining in one bathroom. And on the other bathroom, it kept running. Then our garbage disposal had an issue as well. I did the claim online because it was on the weekend when I did it. The process was fairly easy as of bringing the information on my account. Afterwards was kind of difficult, but filing the claim was pretty easy. I had to have the plumber come back because the issue he fixed still wasn't resolved. He had to come back and fix what he fixed. But otherwise, the company was fine. They were very professional and timely.

It's difficult to try to get a claim in. Everything is automated, but with people in their 60s or going on their 70s, it's hard to navigate that way. When you go through the phone, it gets a little difficult. It could be more streamlined, but that's only a suggestion for older people. Everybody's not tech-savvy to go online to do that. Maybe one day, I'll call when I have an opportunity to try to set up the online and how that works. That's on me for the lack of knowledge, but I'll get there.
I've had a home maintenance program before as well and they do a little different. American Home Shield gets paid upfront. You pay first your initial deductible and that took some getting used to. I like to know the people are gonna do my work and do it right before I hand the money in their hands or I can get a refund if I'm not satisfied. However, the service on my second claim was great. They were in and out and they fixed the issue. I had gotten put on hold for a moment, and I was two days without hot water. They said that as long as I wasn't flooding, so I imagine people who have flood issues will come first. That's understandable for me. As long as the equipment was fixed and it was very professional and done in a very timely manner, it was good experience. They're better than I expected.

I've been largely satisfied with what I've had. I've had one major issue where we had an AC issue, and we figured out that it was an issue with a contractor who had done work in the previous few years. AHS sent someone out. The contractor said, “We're not touching this,” but submitted an estimate to Home Shield. I could not get that estimate from either AHS or the contractor and it has been very frustrating. Because of that, there have been some funds I have not been able to recuperate.
The tech was perfectly nice. But I still wasn't able to get the information that I needed in order to get what we needed taken care of. It was outside of the covered range of work. I can accept the argument there. But I was still charged, at that time a trade call fee, and couldn't even get the written estimate that was provided. Because for some reason, AHS said they can't send any outbound emails, unless you do 10 backflips and three cartwheels, and give them your firstborn child. And the contractor became unresponsive.

I was really surprised that the service is that good. I had a claim a couple weeks before that. It turned out to be something really simple, but it was handled very well. I'm pleasantly surprised with the service. I was very happy with the process, too.

It's easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield but the hold time is relatively long. I know they are busy though. Daryl’s Appliance Service came out on my recent claim ang they were professional. I've had some dreadful experiences with American Home Shield. This goes back 10 years ago. I had paperwork. I had to write a four-page letter in detail. There were a couple of companies that I used, and they were very disgruntled and super unprofessional. I never used them again. It was absolutely horrible. It was very hard at that time. But now, I’m fine.

A friend of mine asked me about American Home Shield and she went ahead and got it. They are pretty nice people to work with and there's a low payment each month. We’ve had three different things and American Home Shield went ahead and tried to fix everything that we needed. They did good. However, the process took a little bit longer than normal when the icebox ran out on the surge of the hurricane. We had another refrigerator but it was out there on the back porch. I’m handicapped and I have to watch what I do. I was walking quite a bit. But otherwise, it was nice. The contractor got it in there as soon as possible. A whole lot of people had probably the same problem.

The air conditioner went out on the rental property that I had. I called the 1-800 number and the automated system took the information and gave me a claim number. From there, she assigned a tech rep to call me which they did. Once he called me, I gave them the property management number so they could get a hold of the tenant that's in the home to schedule the appointment. That went through smoothly.
The techs went out to the rental property and because I'm the owner of the house, they phoned me to verify the coverage which I'm paying. The air conditioner needed freon and it's not covered so I paid an additional cost. But the repairs were covered according to the policy. The tech repaired it and gave me a little discount which I was happy for. They were very professional and I was satisfied. The tenants were satisfied too because it was about 95 degrees that day. It was a good service call. However, sometimes, it's so hard to get through to American Home Shield.

I’m not happy with American Home Shield at all. Submitting a claim is easy. I call in and I have a hard time communicating with their reps because most of them don't speak English very well. There is a language barrier, and they don't wanna hear what you have to say. This is the second time I've been with ASH and this time, I've only been with them a couple months. Before, I'd been with them about three years. But the people that they work with now are totally different than who they worked with three years ago.
Advanced Heating & Air came out for our claim recently and American Home Shield refused to pay for the repair. They said it was not normal wear and tear, even though Advanced said it was. I've had another heating and air conditioner come out on my own, and they say it's normal wear and tear. I can't get AHS to call me back or answer any questions. I wouldn't use them again and if I could get somebody to make them do what their contract says they do, that would be nice but they just blow it off like it's no big deal. I couldn't even get a manager to call me back. It's been a terrible experience. I read their stuff before and everybody said that they were the number one company, but if you go and investigate a little further, which I should’ve done and I didn't, it gives you all the complaints and that there's litigation against them for not doing what they're supposed to be doing.
Terry,
Thanks for providing your feedback. I hate that you were not satisfied with your experience. I sent an email to you in an effort to offer further assistance. Please respond to that email at your earliest convenience.

I have a gas dryer that would heat sometime, and it wouldn't heat sometime. So, if you had a load of clothes, it may take you three hours to get them dry. I put a call in to American Home Shield, and they sent someone who looked at it. They looked behind at the vent, and they said it has something to do with the vent. I wasn't happy with that. A second company came out, but they still said the same thing. Then a third person came out and said the same thing.
I'm getting my clothes dry, but it takes a long time. So, I called a repairman in last Saturday. He came in and looked at it. He said, “As far as your vent , it’s blowing air. And so, your vent is not blocked.” He said it’s something with the timer. I asked him to please write that out for me. If you put it on the left-hand side over there where it’s more dry, it’s not the drying time. It works somewhat. But if you put it on the right where it got set by minutes, like 30 minutes, it doesn't work it out. The dryer comes on, but the air does not get warm. I'm frustrated and disappointed because I paid $75. The problem was not resolved. They said it was in the vent and that wasn't covered by my policy. I called this morning to make a complaint. I paid someone to look at it but I didn't let him fix it because I refused to pay him for fixing it when I have this contract. I'm dissatisfied with American Home Shield.
Hi Joyce,

We submitted several claims to American Home Shield and they have a good submission process. The first one we had was fans. The fans in the bathroom had gone south so those were replaced. There was also the ceiling fan in the living room. It's the kind that has pedals on it that goes around. That was gone as well. A very kind man came and checked it out. He then came back and replaced them for us. That worked really nicely. Also, a man came last week to look at our washing machine.
When we bought the house, it had a washing machine in it. It appears to be in very good shape. But it has a function on it that is very annoying. It starts to fill the washer then it agitates. You put the clothes in and it rips them. And then it stops agitating. It adds some more water. It keeps doing this adding and agitating intermittently. Every time I wash the clothes, I have to stand there and turn it on and off to make it stop agitating and to continue filling. I've lived in about at least 23 places in my adult life and this is the only washing machine I've ever hated. It's a terrible one. The man came to repair it gave it good look over and said that the machine was programmed to work like that. There was no way that he could adjust or reprogram it so I'm stuck with it, which I hate. If there is some way to get a different one, that would be really wonderful. The dryer works beautifully though so that's really nice.
There was another submission for the refrigerator, which is pretty old and runs at least 12 hours a day. It's running now and has been at it for the last three hours. I can adjust the temperature but it doesn't seem to make much difference. It just runs and runs. And it has a black fluid underneath it. A contractor was supposed to come last week but we haven't heard back from anybody yet. My husband was gonna call in and talk to somebody about it.
Other than that, the contractors who have come out were very nice and pleasant to talk to. They were also industrious and very clean. There were ones that actually looked at everything and made the decision something needed to be replaced. It was all very good. They were really professional. American Home Shield has had an excellent service and I would definitely recommend it.
Thanks for your feedback. We love to hear when we have provided fast and provided fast and professional service. And we are always here if you need us.

I thought my refrigerator quit working. I called there and the company was not open on the weekend. American Home Shield said they wouldn't be able to get anybody there for a couple days. I had a freezer full of food. My neighbor took what he could and I threw out the rest. I thought it was a good way to get the refrigerator clean so I cleaned the whole thing. Then the company came a couple of days later and the guy said that it was not our refrigerator at all, it was the circuit breaker that was bad. He told me that I could have plugged it in the extension cord and plugged into the wall socket and it would have kept our refrigerator running. Well, I didn't know. He replaced the circuit breaker and that was the end of it. He was in and out in five minutes. It saved American Home Shield a lot of money.
The only thing is that AHS should probably have a company that would come out for emergencies like a refrigerator. I lost all my food. But I’d tell others to absolutely use AHS. They were a great company. They took care of everything right away and texted the company right away the work order, and the company called me pretty quickly in less than 24 hours.

The technician from Third Generation Plumbing came at home for the AC. We have a part of the house that's flat roofing and so we explained it to him. He got on the ceiling. I asked how he would fix it. He said it would be a little bit difficult but they could pull the ducts with rope. He told me not to worry as his guys are the best as long as I am covered. He also said that I'm gonna hear from them by Friday to make an appointment so they could start on the ducts. He made it like a well-done job. Then I got an email from American Shield saying that I have to contact them for the order. I contacted them and they said that the technician made the report that they cannot get on our ceiling to do the ductwork. I have to open an access for them to be able to do the job. I asked why the technician never mentioned it to me. If he did that and I would know, I could hire a general contractor and open the ceiling. But where do I open the ceiling now?
I called Third Generation and they said they couldn't give me the technician's number, and they couldn't give him my number. I told them that he was in my home and he did the report. I did not know what he wanted me to do to make it easy for him to do the job so we would both be happy. They came up with an answer that I have to take all of the ceilings down. I said that I'm a woman, I don't know AC, and I think that's the dumbest idea I've ever heard. There’s got to be a way around. I ended up calling AHS again and I told them what Third Generation told me. They said that they would get in touch with Third Generation. AHS did that and Third Generation said that they would have their technician call me. That was yesterday morning. To this moment, I haven't heard any more from the technician and from the insurance. I don't know where to go from here.
This is the first time I'm calling AHS for something in the house. All of those two weeks, every time I call, there was somebody willing to help me. However, right now, it's the technician who's not responding. But I think AHS can pressure that a little bit more because they are the one that’s paying the money to them, or they have the contract with them. I heard a lot of good things for this insurance so that’s what I signed up for. Now that I'm needing them, it's like I'm sitting around and they don't help me when they're not on a contract with a good technician and a good company to do the job. Maybe they're doing their part and they may cover, which I don't know because I don't have that experience with them yet.

Zamora is taking care of my AC at the moment. Apparently, one of the parts already wore out and they have to replace it. I haven't had issues with them compared to the first provider that was sent over to take a look at my AC. The only thing is, for some reason, the time frame to wait for this part has been a bit outrageous. And yesterday, one of the representatives from Home Shield told me that they received the part already, but they still have to send it to Zamora. I didn't understand why they have to get it to them first instead of just sending it straight to the guy fixing it. I have a newborn in the house and the temperature in the city where I live at is 98 degrees night. So, it has been very hard these past couple of days, not only at the night, but on the days with a newborn in the house.
The thing that bothered me the most is the first vendor that was sent to my house, Walker's Air Conditioning. I understand that there's a process that vendors have to follow to eliminate the issues to understand which is the best route to fix the issue. When they were originally assigned to me, it took almost two to three days for them to actually just show up. And the first time that they showed up, it was just to see what the issue was. They couldn't fix anything. He said that apparently there was no Freon on the AC unit, so they just put Freon. He said that if the issue continued, to contact them and not Home Shield.
Two days later, the issue continued, I contacted Walker's and they were very hard to get ahold of. I would call four to five times a day and they wouldn't pick up the phone and return the calls. When they finally did, that guy told me, "I'll be there and I'll take a look at the issue." He never went to my house. I had to call Home Shield the following day and have them assign somebody else because Danny ** wasn't even showing up to the appointment that he set up.
That delayed my process an extra week because when Zamora came in, the tech was completely opposite to Walker's, but he had to follow the same steps. He had to run down the same diagnosis at the beginning to make sure that everything goes through, but he did a way better job. He showed up on time, and showed up when they said they would. They always pick up the phone. But by this time, I already lost a bit over a week with Walker's. And now, I have to have Zamora restart the whole process again until we got to the point that we're at right now. It's just waiting for that piece.
Every time I have used Home Shield, they came through. They did everything they should, and I'm happy with that. What I'm dissatisfied with is the lack of communication between the representative, the vendor, and the customer. That's where it seems to be failing. And every time I call Home Shield to do a claim, the negative experience that I have is not because of the representative, it's usually because of the vendor that is going to fix the issue or because there's lack of communication between the vendor and Home Shield.

I kept telling the contractor to replace my thermostat and he kept cleaning it and trying to do all these other things. Finally, they told me that there was nothing else they could do. So, finally, AHS ended up getting my problem resolved by replacing the thermostat. Other than this incident, being with Home Shield has been easy. For my last claim, their tech from Central Elite Electric Contractors came out. He was very professional and polite. He fixed my issue and everything has been great since then.

It was a simple fix so he was able to take care of it right away. I did the claim online and there were a few different companies I could select from. I just took a shot in the dark and picked one and they were great. The process was really simple. I haven't done anything other than pay my service fee.

The AC wasn't cooling properly. It wouldn't go any lower than 76 no matter what I set it at and how long it ran. American Home Shield sent somebody out quickly. It was on a Sunday but they don't let people in here. They came back the next day and fixed it. So far, it seems to be working okay. I had Service America and those other kinds, and they're the worst. Those people never did anything. With American Home Shield, at least they call you. They send you an email right away. They give you the number for the company just in case. You can call them yourself and make sure they're coming and speak to them. I've had pretty good responses with them on the things I've needed.
Compared to other companies out there that do similar things, American Home Shield does a good job. If they don't fix it or something happens, they'll send the people back out. I have a weird air conditioner. It has a dual-stage compressor. They sent someone out. The guy got here and said he couldn't work on the air conditioner. It wasn't American Home Shield's fault that the guy didn't know how to work on it. They sent another company out and that guy fixed it.
Most of the people I speak to there are in some other country. They take your information and get somebody out here. But if you have a problem, like when they sent them out and they didn't know how to work on the air conditioner, they didn't know really what to do. The only thing I don't like is you can't get to speak to anybody here. It's hard if you want to speak to a manager.

We had a leak in a pipe under the kitchen sink. It's the pipe that comes out of the wall. I went online and submitted the claim. I told AHS what was wrong, and gave our credit card number. They set up an appointment with the plumber. He called that same day and came over. He was very nice and made sure his feet were clean. He did the job, cleaned up his mess, and went home.
We have three homes. My children each have their home under American Shield too. My son and I own one together. The dishwasher leaked at my son's house, and then the garage door opener went out, and we’ve been extremely happy with American Shield. One year, we went with a competitor because it was a little cheaper, then we found out why it was like that. We were so unhappy that the next year, we went right back and got all three houses again under American Home Shield.

I had Patel's Plumbing come out for a bathtub that was stopped up and they addressed the problem. I normally use Aaron's, but I like diversity. My tenant also called me and said that everything was fine. I've had American Home Shield for 10 years since my wife and I were married and they proved to be very efficient. Every time I needed something done, I called them and they came.
It's very rare that I have had to keep calling them back and forth, but due to the COVID, sometimes the communication factor has not been the greatest. When I call, I'm on the line for hours sometimes. That's why I call at 3 o'clock in the morning when people are asleep, or they would have such a barrage of inbound calls. The later the hour, the more accessible it is. Still, they need to either hire more operators or give more people the in-house job because the wait time is terrible. Seeing how there are so many people who are working from home, and since American Home Shield is a multimillion-dollar corporation, they could afford to get more people jobs in their homes because it would help the economic structure. That also would avoid some of the wait time.

In today's world with so many complicated appliances and other things that American Home Shield covers, I would recommend it to people once those things are out of warranty because it costs a lot for any repairs to them. I pay American Home Shield the standard fee to be paid for each repair then they cover everything else. They're up front about that. You always know what it is. It hasn't changed since I had them so there are no surprises. That's good. My recent experience with them went well. The contractor came when they said they would for my furnace, did the repair in a timely manner and I'm warm again.

It's fairly easy to get a claim going with American Home Shield. If I want a preferred provider, I have to call them in order to be able to do that and that takes a little bit longer getting through to someone. There was a repair done by another plumber, perhaps about a year and a half prior. That wasn't completed. So, I just needed someone to come out and complete the task. Gaithersburg Plumbing came out and they're excellent, which is exactly why I endure the long wait time with American Home Shield to make sure that it was Gaithersburg Plumbing that was coming up. This particular incident was recurrent approximately a year after the prior fix. There were some vent pipes that seemed to have been pumping gas back into the house. That needed to be closed up. It was horrifying. They closed one up, and then there was another one.
I have American Home Shield for two different properties. I've used them for my other property as well. We have to remember it's an insurance company at the end. You have to go through their process if repairs take longer than necessary. They require three attempts before they will try to replace an item. They'll try to finagle different ways of not having to purchase a new item. But having said that, on my other property, I had a dishwasher problem and I did have to go through three different technicians before they agreed to replace it. The replacement process was great. If you have patience and you can endure that then it works out. Having American Home Shield is worth it if you have the mental strength to be patient with the process.

Then, the person disconnected it. So when I asked the American Home Shield guy to come back, he came and said, "I'm sorry, but that's not covered." But I paid the $100 anyway because the guy had to come out. But that's understandable. But they came out quickly. I haven't had any trouble with anybody. The process of going through American Home Shield was initially kind of difficult. I had something pop up on the account where it said there was a past due balance even though I had already spoken to a manager about that after about three or four tries. Initially, I spoke with a representative to update my contract. When I spoke with that representative, I asked, "When will this be in effect?" He said, "As soon as we hang up, it'll be in effect." I said, "Okay, that's great. So I'll just have a higher monthly payment, correct?" He said yes. Out of nowhere, when I hung up with him and I went to schedule the service, it said I had a past due amount of whatever the new contract price was gonna be that was already negotiated that it'll go into a monthly payment, as I've been doing monthly payments for about the past four years, every month, on automatic payment.
Because they put a past due amount on my account for apparently no reason, I couldn't schedule the service. I had to call back again and spoke with another representative that assured me, "Oh, yeah. I took care of it." Then again, it's the same thing. I had to call back again then speak with the manager but I never got through to a manager. I was on the phone for about 40 minutes. The last time around, the representative was able to get me over to the manager very quickly and the manager was absolutely wonderful. He said, "You know what? They give you the wrong information. That's our fault. I'll go ahead and waive that for you." He helped me schedule the service right then and there over the phone with him. He made the whole thing a lot less frustrating to go through. Then I got a couple notices in the mail that said I still had past due amounts but when I called back again, they said, "Oh, it's fine. Just disregard those notices."
If you're calling as a new customer or you just wanna speak with sales, it's fairly quick. It's maybe 5, 10 minutes. If you're calling as a current customer because there's an issue going on that you want to resolve, I've been on hold-up like 40 minutes before. If they had a feature where it said, "We'll call you back as soon as it's your turn in line," that would have been wonderful.
But beyond that, the technicians that came out and serviced the equipment were very professional. The actual service where the contractors have come out both for the bathroom and the dishwasher were great, even though the second time for the dishwasher that we called, we also called for the washing machine. We had to stop doing laundry at some point 'cause it had developed a certain smell which was from plumbing. It turns out that they don't do anything because of a smell coming to the washing machine even though that prohibits us from doing laundry. Imagine a sewer smell coming from your washing machine. It's not fun.
Beyond the washer, every other appliance was handled in a timely manner. First, they came out for the dishwasher. The guy said I needed these parts and put in an order for those parts. When it came in, he came and fixed it. The person that came out for the toilet showed up the same day and took care of the problem. He was very neat and cleaned up after himself. I was very pleased with that. The overall experience with American Home Shield has been fine.

I heard a pipe that was busted. I went under my house and saw that a leak was taking place. I called American Home Shield and their rep was fine. Discount Contractors was assigned to my claim and they were really good. They came out that day and called me to give me a timeframe. They came at the right time. Since the repair, the pipe seems to be doing good. I was very satisfied with them. That repair was extremely important. Before, I couldn't take a shower or do anything because I turned my well pump off which turned the water off.
This last time was a good situation. But I'm still having some issues with the previous claim I made with American Home Shield earlier this year that I have not been reimbursed for. American Home Shield is a good company. But sometimes it's extremely difficult to get certain things done. I've had a couple of bad experiences with them and a couple of great experiences as well. There should be easier communication with American Home Shield. Every time I call, I'd have to explain something over and over again. I wish there a point of contact and to be able to call back a certain somebody who deals with my case from start to finish and not a call service center.
To me, that holds people accountable. A lot of the problems with a lot of companies nowadays is that you have to call the 1-800 number. I don't care if the person is in the United States, in India, or wherever. At least you can hold somebody accountable if they're not doing their job versus just calling in and having to keep explaining yourself until somebody wants to take care of you. Overall though, the home warranty is worth it.

When they were here the first time, it wouldn't reproduce what I had talked about and I said that it’s something else. It’s when it fills up. They said that they would just replace the flapper. The next day, the toilet started doing it again. So, I recorded it on my phone and when I flushed it, it did it again. So, I called them and they came back. I showed them the video but it exhibited the same type of issue when they were here as well. When I start an order with American Home Shield, it takes an hour to two hours to speak to somebody and then, there's a time delay about getting somebody. I don’t like the phone communication but once the service people come in, they do a satisfactory job. My last claim was on the dryer and it was a husband and wife deal. The gentleman was very nice. The quality of work and the service of the technicians are always good. It’s just that drag time. I hear that from a lot of people with American Home Shield about getting somebody on the phone. It's a recording that they're busy and to go to the internet to place our order. But most people would rather talk to a human being.
I've thought about canceling the service with AHS but I've been with them for a long time. They don't have the urgency of getting somebody to your home faster. We have a maintenance on all of our air conditioner and heating. I have a standby generator too and these people take care of service once every six months to make sure my appliances are in good order. But my main concern is when I can't get somebody, I can’t use Grayson Air Conditioner to come out. They could be at my house in two hours.
AHS tries to cut corners to get the cheapest people they can to do this stuff as far as the monetary situation goes but I don't understand why they would not let somebody else who is a qualified person and reputable people come in and do the work. They can even put them on the phone to their main people, and tell them what's going on and what it's gonna cost to repair it. They need to have more urgency about taking care of their customers. I'm a retiree from Citibank so I’m used to working around a lot of people and I was in upper management. I don't understand why the service from AHS is so poor as far as trying to get an order placed. If you have a problem with appliance in your house, it's usually something that you really need.
I tried to call customer service and they gave me the guy's name but I could not ever get him. We have a son that has special needs and our air conditioner went out. I explained that to them and they said it'd be a week for somebody to come. We’re in Mobile and it's hot. Somebody in management heard about it and they called me and apologized. They gave me a guy's name but I never could get him to call me back. I called and called. He had a recording machine. It floored me because when I worked 47 years with Citibank, I always returned my phone calls and I preached to everybody else. I was over 5000 people at one time. I'm not tooting my horn but I know how word of mouth is the best advertising you have and it covers a lot of mistakes. Be nice to people and try to take care of their needs. That spark can cause a fire.

Within about an hour, it turned off again. The tech went out and checked everything. He said he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I also put Home Shield on the house I sold. My air conditioner went out the week before closing. But thank God, it was the thermostat. It wasn't the air conditioner. They just replaced the thermostat.
The last time when I called on the AC, Home Shield patched me to the Philippines and the rep didn't understand nor speak hardly any good English. So, I just hung up. I called my Realtor and she found this local guy here and he took care of it. I don't care if foreign people have jobs. I made a claim to American Home Shield for a plumbing issue that I had. I prefer to speak with a live person, and so I had to go through a lot of automated in order to get a live person. So, that's an issue for me. In the beginning, they should ask if you'd like a live person or to go automated, and that's it. They go, "Now go push this number for this, push that number for that." I don't have time for all that.
The contractor was fine. He came out twice. The first time, he replaced it twice while he was here because the first device that they put on the pipe was faulty. Then the second one was faulty as well and I had to call them back. Unfortunately, because of all that, the flooring and the cabinet were messed up because of the leak. However, it's very difficult to do the claim over the phone with AHS. American Home Shield could use some improvement. Right now I got another claim. My washing machine went out and they sent someone out. I thought it was all fine and good. Supposedly they have someone else coming out but someone from American Home Shield called me and said, “This is not due to normal wear and tear so we're denying the claim.” I was like, “I don't know why that would be.” They've never called me back. I called but I ended up not being able to talk because somebody called that was far more important. I had to hang up, and then I forgot to call back. So, Home Shield called me back and they were on it. They’re on top of everything. Greenway then came out and was initially doing an HVAC inspection type thing. And then, the tech needed a part and he came back to replace it. He was pleasant.

At the beginning, submitting claims was confusing. I had a claim back in July and I had just got it done now. The process for American Home Shield to okay what was going on took like two months. And then, I waited for the guy that was supposed to come out. He called me at 2 o'clock saying he couldn't come out then. I had a window between 8:00 and 12:00 but he was gonna be out a little late in the afternoon. But they called me they day before and said they were coming out. I had already took the day off. But I left it alone.
I'm kinda glad it happened because a guy called and said he got a call from the other guy. This guy just finished his job and and that he was coming to see what he could do for me. He was totally professional. He cleaned up behind himself and he chatted with my grandson. He made me feel like it was worth the wait. He did a good job, explained everything to me, took a look back out, and told me to give him a call if I had any problems. Not only did he give me his card, he also gave the company card. I felt good about that.
I'm going through some stuff with Home Shield. It took almost four months to get my air conditioner in and I paid them almost $8,000 for that. I was at the point where I called BG&E Home because I was mad with Home Shield. They just started getting slack in their business. Also, I've been with them for a long time and I used to love them but I'm getting a little pissed off with them because if you're not talking to somebody in the states, you're talking to somebody overseas and you're not getting the proper support. I’m not feeling that.

I made a phone call to American Home Shield and I was impressed with how quickly the contractor came out. It was on the same day that I made the claim. The pipe was leaking and it was getting everything underneath the sink wet and it created a mess. They had to put a new part on it to keep it from leaking further. They were in and out and fixed the problem and were gone in less than an hour. We were able to get that cleared up and everything has been functioning great since they were here. The repair helped a lot. I had a very good experience with AHS.

American Home Shield sent ABNation for my pool pump that went out. They came out and looked at it and suggested that we replace the pump, which they did. It ran fine for a few days, and then it started making some really strange noises. So I called them back and they came out and confirmed that something was wrong with it. They weren't exactly sure. They thought it was an electrical issue. It sounded like a bearing to me, but I'm not an expert, so I didn't know. But they were very good. They replaced it, and now, I'm very happy. Everything's running fine.
The technician was Dave. He was very helpful, thorough and professional and I was very happy with him. Everything's good with AHS. The only thing is when I called, I was on hold forever. I was so tired of hearing people say that it's COVID. They should be staffing up for it. Also, I said that when I originally went on the program that if I had a guy that was taking care of me and I wanted to use him and as long as he agreed to the same terms and conditions with American Home Shield, we could use the guy that was already here. I tried to do that and it just went absolutely nowhere. It ended up being okay because ABNation was great. But I did not get what I originally thought I was gonna get.

They do a great job and I'm very impressed with them. I had a water leak in my bathroom and it leaked through the floor and into the garage so I had some water damage as well. I called American Home Shield and they contacted the plumbers. They called me and came out. They couldn't get to the actual thing that was wrong because there was a ceramic wall up so I had to get some contractor to remove that. They came back the next day and fixed it. They did a great job.

My recent claim with AHS was on my refrigerator and 7-H handled it really well. I had to call them out a second time. Because the first time they fixed it, it did not work. They were still having a problem. They had to end up taking the complete icemaker out and reordering another one because that was a problem that Samsung had been having with that refrigerator. So, I was pleased with the second time. But with our first claim, American Home Shield almost lost us as a customer.
What happened was that it was a Sears repairman that came out. He said that the part was no longer available. But American Home Shield found the part, but the part they had to replace did not have a facing on it that matched the facing on my stove. So, he had to pull the old facing off of the old part. When he did, it was all lumpy and my stove looked deformed when he put it on there. Then he had to tape some part of the thing because the element still wasn't working once he replaced the part. He found out that the element had worked it out, and he had to tape some of the wires with electrical tape. I was so afraid to use my stove because, to me, it looked like a fire hazard.
Every time I called AHS, I stayed on the phone for three hours trying to reach someone to talk to about it. AHS told me, they were not concerned about the way the appliances look, the facial parts of it. If your appliance looked better before their serviceman came out and fixed it, it’s their problem to make the appliance look the way it was looking before.
I filed the claim with American Home Shield and I had to go through the Better Business Bureau with them. It took me from July to September to finally get pleased with that. They ended up sending out a repairman from another company that came out and he fixed that taped part of the element that he taped, the electrical wire. He put the right fitting on there where it was not taped. I felt better about that. We got American Home Shield because a lot of our friends had them. Even when I was running into this problem, I talked to them and they said they had never run into a problem like that before and that's probably why I'm still with AHS.
Hi Roberta,
I hate to hear about your most recent AHS experience and the hold time to speak with a representative. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

The contractor has replaced the board and several things, and the dishwasher is still doing the same thing. I thought that maybe the new part had to settle in. But it still leaves water in the dishwasher. So, I was gonna call American Home Shield tomorrow because standing water like that could lead to bacteria. I was quite happy with the techs who came out. They have been very professional and answered any questions I had. It seemed they knew what they were talking about. It's just that the problem is still there.
The first time I submitted a claim online to AHS, way back when, they had no record of it. And I've had one experience where the young lady could barely speak English but other than that, everything's been great. The fridge fixed itself and I cancelled. I got a call that the contractor would be here to work on my fridge. I said that it was cancelled four days ago. But glitches happen and whenever I've called, the reps from AHS seem interested. They said that if I had any questions, I could call them. I'm quite happy with it myself. If they could just get the problem fixed but it's not them. It's a problem with the dishwasher itself.

The dryer was not working accurately. It would just turn off. Astro Appliance's guy came out, did his assessment and resolved that issue. It was a matter of something being loose. My husband was here with them. Thereafter, the recalls were related to when the tech placed everything back in order. The belt or some type of part material of the dryer was hanging out, and we were concerned about it being a safety hazard. That was what the additional recalls were about, for someone to come and restore that to its original state because it was not like that.
As far as submitting a claim, they put you on hold for a really long period. To be on hold 30 minutes to receive service or to report needing service doesn't work when you have to work or you have other commitments. From what we were told and what we've paid every time we've requested service, it's been $50. But they charged us like $108, and that wasn't a part of the contract initially with Home Shield. I'm dissatisfied with that because it's misrepresentation.

My air conditioner broke and AHS dispatched local contractor for the repair. Diagnosis made and parts ordered. So far so good. Contractor arrives month later and installed parts and informed me there would be an additional $250.00 dollar charge for some kind of modification. He said AHS should of called me with an explanation that the service modification was not covered. No call. I have spoken to many people at AHS trying to explain why the additional charge. They all say the same thing. "We have turned it over to our contractual relation department and someone will get back to me in 24-48 hours." Nothing.
AHS would put me on hold and try to call the contractor for explanation. AHS would tell me that all they get is an answering machine and they will send them an email. I called the contractor and got straight through first time. They said they have not received any emails or phone calls in regards to my several phone calls to AHS. I have asked several times for someone within AHS that could help me with this issue with no help. They tell me they don’t have those numbers.
I have decided to give up and cancel my service contract with AHS and find another home warranty company. Not for what the contractor did but because of the poor customer service received from AHS. As the saying goes. Good service only gets told to a few but bad service gets told to many. I won’t recommend AHS to anyone. I would love to have someone from their corporate office reach out to me so I can discuss further. But of course no one within AHS will or cares.

A Plus Service, the company they hired to fix the stove, couldn’t get the right part for about a month. Once they had the part they never called to schedule an install appointment. When we finally called them to see what was going on they gave us an appointment.
Day of the appointment, they never showed up. When AHS called them they said it was because of a COVID outbreak and to use a new contractor. That was a month and a half after the original request. From here, AHS never sent a new contractor, never gave us a check for a new stove, and nothing seems to be happening. It’s been over two months and I feel like crying because they have taken my money and my time and have given nothing in return. It feels a lot like being a victim of fraud.

At first I needed the cashout team, customer service said they weren’t able to transfer me and it would take 24-48hrs for a callback. When I said I wanted to cancel they put me on hold for 20 min and to only come back and tell me the retention dept wasn’t available and they would call me back in 24hrs. I have had AHS for four years and have had to call them out each year for several different things, but mostly for repairs to our AC units. It's funny how the commercial ad leads you to believe that once you're a member, your problems will be solved with no worries for you. That is not exactly true. Two technicians told me that I will probably have to go out of pocket to replace the units because AHS will never authorize them to replace, only band aid the problems. Mind you I live in the desert and even though it's October, it's still 100 degrees here. My AC unit has been out for over a week now while I wait for them to send a compressor (that I have to pay $700 for) to the contractor. I have tried reaching out to them via phone to no avail. Everyone seems to be using Covid as an excuse for poor customer service and follow up.
I removed my pool service from my contract since everything is new and under warranty. I was told that my service fee would be reduced as a result. It wasn't. The last AC issue I had they sent a contractor out who said he couldn't find any issues, but collected the service fee. When I told them the problem still persisted, they wanted to send the same contractor out. I had to pay the service fee a second time for a real tech to come out and diagnose the problem. Then I had to pay an excess of $400 out of pocket for them to add refrigerant. At least we haven't had any more issues out of that unit this year.
I'm quite disappointed with their service and hate that I have recommended them to friends and family. Here I'm trying to correct that error so that others can be better informed about purchasing a warranty. I'm sure all of these warranty companies will refer you to the small print in your contract when you have a problem, just know what to expect and if you can read a standard contract prior to purchasing, please do. You'll be glad you did.

Our recent claim experience with AHS went well. The contractor assessed my smoke alarms and changed the ones that needed to be changed. However, besides the fact that I was having issues with the payment issues, I was seeking to discontinue during the pandemic and re-establish afterward because I didn't feel like I should've had to pay for all of those months when techs weren't allowed to come out because of the pandemic. I should've been reimbursed or not have to have paid for those months where I wouldn't be able to utilize the service. But AHS didn't agree and they continued to bill me. So in order to not mess up my name, my history or have any bad accounts, I paid those fees that I don't believe I should've had.
My interactions with customer service weren't good. No one gave me a word about me being able to discontinue my services. Just, "Someone will call you back," or, "You'll still be billed. This is your amount," whatever it is, and they continued to bill me. So essentially, I had to pay. Then, as more time is passing, then my smoke alarms weren't working properly. Now, techs are more allowed to come out and come to homes. I had to pay the rest of the money in order to get service.
There are so many options with AHS. At the time I initially got it, I got the combo pack and it was competitive with the others that I looked at. So I ended up going with AHS but that was just for the sake of familiarity. It was nothing special they did. I don't even think having to pay that $100 every time a tech comes out is something that I enjoyed. I also wasn't informed that I could add if I had more than one electrical issue, that I can have them check it all out at one time, so AHS failed me in that. I spent more money than I should have in the past now that I look back on it.

Submitting my claim with American Home Shield was good. The only thing is that it takes a long time for them to answer. I tried calling twice and was on the phone waiting for 15 minutes. Also, they were not even familiar with my contract with American Home Shield. They were like, “Okay, let me see what's on your contract,” and “Oh, I'm not too sure if it's included or what.” It’s supposed to be once you have a contract, it's written down there what's included and what's not included. Automatically, they are supposed to answer on the spot like, “On electrical, this is what's included.”
But I'm the one who said it’s included because it's electrical. They then agreed I was right. But I’m not supposed to say that. They’re supposed to be the one to evaluate that. I had a better experience when I was in a different state with another home warranty company. That was excellent for me. But for a recent claim I made with American Home Shield, SJDI Electric came out and they did a good job. They were very professional. I've had no issues since they were out and hopefully, I'll not have any.

The burners had corrosion. We also found out that the particular gas provider for propane had a reputation for having more particulates in their propane than a lot of the other ones do. The technician was able to catch that immediately. He showed me how he took the build-up out of the actual jets. Once he got that going and burned through some of the debris that was loosened, things are working great now.
This was the first time I had the service with American Home Shield and it was good. But I was put on hold for 45 minutes and never got my answer. I got tired of listening to elevator music after 45 minutes so I hung up. I tried to go online but it was asking for information on just one particular issue. The issue I was having wasn't even on those issues. They wanted to know which type of burner it was.
A week or so later, I made the third attempt annd tried to call. It was picked up within three or four rings. The people-to-people interaction was wonderful. The rep was able to understand what I was saying and she got it set up to where when the technician came, he knew what the issue was. It was like clockwork. Precision Appliance let me know when they'd be there. They stayed in great contact with me prior to coming here and they arrived on time. The tech came in very professionally. They call you, set the appointment up, remind you of the call, and tell you when their workers come. They also give you an ETA of when they're gonna be knocking on your door. They say 8:17 and at 8:17 they're at your door. Recently, they had to come out three times for the washing machine. After the guy fixed one part, it was still locking us out. The most recent claim with American Home Shield is still unresolved. We've had people out to take a look at the dishwasher and it was not able to be repaired, so they had to replace it. It's been a lengthy process measured in weeks and as early as yesterday, I spent over five hours on hold trying to get a status update. It still has not been replaced and AHS was saying it could be four weeks to replace. It's in the new appliance department. There has been no communication back to us as to what the color of the unit is. All they said was that it was an apples-to-apples unit.
I'm also a Realtor and American Home Shield is our preferred recommendation for home warranty. The communication as well as the service is horrible and this isn't the first time. Part of it could be the trade people that they’ve selected because we've had a couple of different things. We had to get a water heater replaced and that was a mess. We were upcharged on that. It was not a good experience and this is for a home that I own. So, I can imagine what clients would be going through.

They returned a week later with the needed parts and had my issue fixed in five minutes. I feel great about having American Home Shield. Submitting claims to them is very easy. I'm not computer-savvy and if I can do it, anybody can. It's just a couple of clicks and somebody would be at my place. It's very comforting knowing that AHS is there.

The tech from Mister Freeze was amazing. With all the ash in the air, it kinda got sucked up into the AC unit. So we flushed the outside out on our own. But the tech said the actual coil got overloaded so he replaced that and it was ready to go. When he was here, he tried to not come in as much as possible. He only came in one time because we were having a hard time finding the turn-off switch for the power. He had a mask on. He was fast. He got the job done. He was not even there for more than 15 minutes. I was super happy.
When I submit my claim online, I realized it's easier to make appointments, schedule stuff, and pay for things. But if there's an issue and I need to contact them, getting them by phone is a nightmare. You have to be on the phone for an hour. It would be better if they have the call back thing. Overall, it's really beneficial having American Home Shield because paying $75 to have somebody come out and do something is extremely awesome.
I found a few moments where it didn't work out for the reason that either it wasn't covered under American Home Shield, even though I tried to call about that ahead of time to find out it was. But they were pretty good about sending somebody out to do it over again because I didn't like the way it was done. When I had an issue with one of the vendors, they were very sympathetic about it and they sent somebody else out since I didn't really wanna work with that vendor. It's a valuable service. But it's a pretty hefty expense. It's $500 to renew and right now, it's really hard during the pandemic.

When we bought the house, one of the perks was they paid for two years of American Home Shield and I'm glad they did. When it expired, we had to pay for it. My wife and I thought we needed to continue and I'm glad we did. I've had a number of experiences with them. I've called for an air conditioning unit problem, a garage door, a dishwasher and a microwave. I can't say that all the times that we've called has been satisfactory but the experience I've had has been easy. When you have a problem, all you have to do is log in on the computer and pretty much key it in there. Usually, they get back with you within the next couple hours. Hopefully, you can get somebody to come out but they try as soon as possible. The people that they have come over are generally very knowledgeable and are able to take care of the situations. I've never had a repeat problem with anything they had done so it has been very satisfactory. This is our third year having it and we have no problems.
Most recent claim was an electrical outlet that did not have any power. The first guy came out, tried something, and it didn't work. He ended up making the problem worse. American Home Shield had another contractor come out and he was the one who resolved it. He was good. He was explaining to me about how it worked. It was a light switch and a loose piece in that will have an effect on the wall outlet. He figured it out and everything works now. What I had connected to the wall outlet was my security system so I definitely needed to get that fixed. I haven't had any problems with it losing power and it's been two weeks now.

My refrigerator had gone out about a month or so before. We had a lot of problems with electricity that night and the electricity kept going on and off all night long. And then, my refrigerator was on, then I noticed it was off. I called Home Shield, got an appointment, they had put me for A Affordable. I finally got ahold of them, but it took forever. They set up an appointment but they couldn't get here for a week. But my refrigerator, in about two days, just came back on so I canceled that.
When it went out again, then they put me with the same person. When I tried to call them, they didn't call me. I tried to call them and I waited 24 hours. I got one number, the recording was full, I could not leave a message. The other number, I got to leave a message that time. The next day, I did not hear from them, and the next day, I still did not. I tried calling them and both recordings were full. They never returned my call. I did some research on A Affordable. Some of it was really bad, and I never ever want them in my house. Now, my daughter did some research on that company.
Finally, I called Home Shield back to find out what was going on. They said, "Give us an hour," and he would call me back. He called me back within an hour to see if A Affordable called and I said, "No they hadn't." So, I told him my husband is 77 years old and I cannot take the food someplace else. I have to had it done. He escalated the claim into an emergency call, got it taken care of as quickly as he could. He was great and W&W was so professional. The guy was so sweet and explained everything. He did a diagnosis. He took time to find out what was really wrong with it, fixed it.
What the tech found out was it was the motherboard, but I understand with the pandemic, they can't get motherboards so he changed some things on some connectors. He showed it to me and he said, "I replaced those." The refrigerator runs perfect right now. I'm anxious to see if it blows it out if the electricity goes off and on again.

It was a little harder than I thought it was gonna be to work with American Home Shield. There were so many rules that had to be followed in order for something to be covered. I'm working with a specialist with them right now because our issue still isn't resolved. She has been wonderful but the people that you call and report things to and call you back and say that it's not covered are like reading off a script. They don't wanna know what's going on. The customer service is not personal at all. They don’t care what's happening to me other than what they're told and what they have to say. I had to go through other channels to get my situation looked at in a different way but it is being handled now. We had to climb the ladder and talk to higher people to get them to understand what our situation was, which was unfortunate because I like to talk with people and be helped.
Having a home warranty and having American Shield is a good thing and it's a very good company. But I'm not satisfied with every step of my problem because I've been on the phone for probably five days overall trying to get this resolved, plus having to go back to my Realtor, and having to go back to her broker. It doesn't seem like it should be that difficult. On the other hand, when the technicians finally came and saw what the problem was and understood how and what it was, they were wonderful and amazing. They bent over backwards to help me. AHS is very reputable and they've probably gotten screwed along the way by people that are trying to rip them off. But it's working out and I'm very thankful for that.

I’ve had several plumbing issues. For one of them, I was trying to get my money back because it took a long time to sign up. But I had other calls that they showed up, and everything was fine. The most recent claim was great. The guy showed up and was helpful. He solved the issue and he knew what he was doing. Instead of just replacing something, he fixed a few things. Someone that's really good at solving and good at customer relations will hear a question, understand where that question is coming from, kind of reframe the question in a way that is more useful for the customer, then provides a larger explanation. That's what I'm looking for and he was that.
However, American Home Shield is expensive. When I run into problems, I question why I'm using it because I’m definitely not using it to save money. I'm using it because it's a little bit of a delegation. I'm not happy about my contract with my Cool Springs house. I've been waiting for over a month to have a tiny little part replaced in my microwave. I have a rental house and I'm trying to rent it out and it's been over a month. People are coming into my house and it looks bad because it hasn't been replaced. I was talking to a representative and it wasn’t their fault but I’m really mad. I’m considering canceling all of my contracts 'cause I have a list of contractors I can call myself.
The repair company said American Home Shield was gonna replace my microwave but nothing happened. I called and they said they were not gonna replace my microwave. They wanna replace the part now and they’ve found the part. I called a week ago and asked what was going on. They said they were still waiting for the parts. I called American Home Shield and the rep didn't know what she was doing or what was going on. They called the company. The company finally called and said American Home Shield said they already shipped the parts but they never got the notice. That doesn’t make any sense. Someone’s lying.
The whole thing felt like American Home Shield was trying to save some money by not replacing the microwave and it’s costing me a month. It's like all of this was really bad on American Home Shield because it looks like they're trying to save a buck while they're costing me money and reputation. I call over and over, and people are like “I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.” I could have replaced this thing from Home Depot and paid less. It doesn’t happen too often, but it’s pretty upsetting especially since I’m not doing this to save money, I’m doing this for convenience. Now it's like the reverse of convenience.

I'm a first time homeowner. I've been in my home a couple of weeks and they told me that I should add American Home Shield so I did. It was a really good information to know. When I was adding, I was telling them I was just about to go buy a new dryer and they said, "No, you're covered. You can use it." When my dryer wasn't drying my clothes, they allowed me to use it then. It was my first time submitting a claim and it was a very easy process. It was really quick. They got someone out within the next two to three days. Gary's Appliance was very professional. They came out and wore masks. The guy needed some extra and he told me the approximate time it would take him to go get the part and come back. He did it in a timely manner and I haven't had any issues with it since so everything went well.
I did call another company for their warranty and they couldn't schedule me anybody right away. I was still waiting for a service call from them and I ended up canceling it after I started with American Home Shield. Hopefully, I don't need them soon but at least I'm comfortable knowing that I have a lot of things covered. They went over the tiers of different things and I got the one that better suited me. I do have confidence knowing that all I have to pay is $100 and I can get it looked at and corrected. If they can't correct it, they'll replace it. That does give me a sense of ease about a lot of my appliances and things in the home.

Home Shield is one of those things that you hate to pay, but you’re glad you got it. One time, it paid off. I didn't have to have an electrician or pay a guy like the North Star out of pocket. They would have charged me more than the $100 deductible that I had to put in, so it was good.

Everything went fast and great with Samuel and Sons. The tech came, looked, saw what the needed part was, said he had to go get it and he was back here in 15 minutes. Five minutes later, he was done. He said the compressor had went out. He took precautions, but he never did come into the house because he didn't have to. He went to the outside.
This was the first time that I've used American Home Shield since we had it in two years or so, and it was great. I called them at night because I didn't really realize that my air conditioner was really going out because it was kind of a cold day. They told me somebody would get with me within 48 hours. They called me the next day. Then they gave me the number to the people that came and fixed it so I could know what number to look for. Those people called me the next day and came out the same day.
Submitting the claim was easy. My husband would do it the online way because we could do it that way. But I'm very old-school. I’d rather just call the number and do it that way. When I did the claim, they took all my information down and it was quick and easy. I've already been telling all my friends that have recently bought a home or about to buy homes that they need to go with American Home Shield. It’s the best.

My dishwasher had no power. It wouldn't turn on. I called American Home Shield, made the claim and explained what the issue was. They said they would assign somebody who would contact me to schedule and that was what happened. By experience having been a three or four-year customer, I expected a certain time and response. However, the experience was terrible.
Their scheduling system had me call in and each time, I had to wait a minimum of 25 minutes, one time, 45 minutes, till somebody picked up. I said I wished to make an appointment to schedule because that was what the text said. The person said their system was they'd take my number and somebody would call me to schedule it with me. They couldn't tell me what phone number it would be. But if I missed that call, I had to call back, go through the 25 to 45-minute wait and go through the same process. The first time, the number was a number I didn't recognize. I wasn't available so I missed the call. I called back, waited another 25 minutes and got the same routine. I scheduled it with them the second time and it was scheduled three weeks out.
The tech showed up but he was huffing and puffing. He did not wanna be there. He looked at it, pressed the button two or three times and said, "I've gotta order a part. When the part comes in, call us and we'll reschedule. But we're about three to four weeks out." He ordered the part and a week later the part came in. I called and went through the same excruciating process of waiting online. Somebody finally picked and told me somebody was gonna call me to schedule. I had to make sure I got the call and I did.
The same tech came out the second time with the part. He had to go under the dishwasher which he didn't like. He tried to do it then he said, "I ordered the wrong part. You need a whole 'nother motherboard. I'm gonna have to order the motherboard now and we're gonna have to go through the same process." He ordered the motherboard, I got the part, I called and went through the excruciating schedule part. This time, I said I didn't want Kevin who was the same guy the first two times, and they sent out another guy.
This guy came about two weeks later. He was terrific. He looked at the motherboard and looked at the part that Kevin had previously ordered. He said it was not any of that. He did a whole diagnostic. He took the door off and figured out that there was a wiring issue in the door. He fixed it and the power came back on. However, when he left, I called him real quick and he told me he didn't test to see if it worked. As soon as I put dishes in there and put it on, it wouldn't run. It turns on, the power's on, but it waits two minutes and then gives you an error code. I called Express Appliance Service and went through the same process again. I made the claim, went back to the claim and said it's not resolved.
Kevin showed up again and I told him what the other guy did. He pressed the button two or three times, same thing I've been doing, turned the electric on and off and said, "We gotta order you a whole new door or latching system. When you get it, call, and we're gonna go through the process," and left. This has been 13 weeks without a dishwasher at this point. In the three times Kevin had been here, if it's been a total of a half an hour, that would be a lot. The other gentleman did a great job for what he tried. He didn't reset something. I don't know what he didn't do, but at least he did something.

We had a problem with a dryer that wasn't drying the laundry. We called a technician. He came and he fixed it. A day later, the dryer still didn't work, so he returned again. A week later, again, it stopped working. The technician said it was probably because the vent was clogged. So, the heating element broke down. The bottom line of all that story is that American Home Shield was helpful, but eventually, they said that this would not be covered under the warranty because the vent was clogged.
I had a person coming in today to clean the vent. The guy that came today said the vent was clean, but because there's a screen on the opening outside on the roof, which I had no idea, that was what caused the damage. Now, it's fixed and now I need to fix the dryer. I also should get a replacement for the heating element, which I don't understand why it won't be covered through American Home Shield. I also submitted another claim for the dryer nine months ago and it was fine. The contractors fixed it. I had a claim for my AC before that and my only gripe with American Home Shield is that they don't cover the Freon or the coolant or antifreeze. That has to go into the AC unit so it's quite expensive. If that's what you need, they only cover $10 per pound. Some companies require you to pay the full cost of having the warranty upfront and I like that AHS allows you to do the billing monthly. That is helpful as well as the quick turnaround and the ease of making the service request online. I normally do mine online and it takes less than five minutes.

As a matter of fact, Walston was the second one because the first company was overbooked and AHS had to find me another company that could come out. When you have a private well and something breaks on it, you don't have any running water in the house. So, they got me somebody pretty quickly.
Walston was very professional. They arrived on time and I got a text message that they will be arriving soon. They fixed the issue pretty quickly. The tech diagnosed it because he had to check the well pump in the yard and the pressure tank. Then after he checked both of them, he found that it was the tank part of the system that was malfunctioning. He fixed it pretty quickly, and I have running water again.

Our water heater went out and the contractor, Lakeshore Plumbing, came out and checked it. They told us what was wrong with it. They tried to get the parts for the water heater and they said they couldn't get those, so they had to order a water heater. The technician seemed very knowledgeable. He informed us of what he was doing and why he had to do it. But it was three weeks from the time we first called American Home Shield till the time we got the water heater installed. In the future, AHS should let the clients know that there might be some out-of-pocket expense because there was a $650 out-of-pocket expense for us for a modification that had to be done. We were aware of that after they came out before they installed the water heater but at that point, we were at their mercy. It was kinda tough to come up with the money but we took care of it.

We needed our furnace replaced 'cause it had some cracked heat exchangers, and it was 21 years old and had only a 20-year warranty on it. American Home Shield allowed us to use the heating company that we preferred, as opposed to just any old heating company. Luckily, our preferred people go through them. The company came out and replaced the furnace. It took about a day to get that done and the heating has been working really well.
I had a claim before that with the plumbing. The guy came out and noticed that there was something wrong with the water main like shut-off valves. But it wasn't on his work order and so he couldn't do anything about it. I had to call American Home Shield and do another claim, pay another $75 and then do a different thing, even though they were kind of related. I guess their policy is that you have to be very, very specific the first time, even if you didn't know the problem existed. It's sort of frustrating, but I can understand it to some degree.
The only thing is that it's extremely hard to get in touch with them. Sometimes you sit on hold for hours or an hour before getting a person and sometimes, you don't. The online web portal can be used to schedule something, but you pay ahead of time without actually talking to anybody and giving any sort of detail, which is kind of weird just ‘cause you don't know if you should be paying for something. And again, you have to wait on hold to talk to somebody. It could take a really long time, and even then, they might not be super helpful. But at the same time, it's Corona and I know it's getting harder to get in touch with anybody at this point.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

I work for a plumbing contractor and American Home Shield was the easiest one to deal with on the contractor side. I got covered with them and then they called to update me on what was in my package for insurance. I just purchased the home, so it needed to be rekeyed. They offered me the $75 deal to get the service, and I appreciated it. It was good and the process super easy. I got a text me when Dan's Pro-Lock would arrive and when they came, they were was quick, clean, and professional.

I submitted a claim with Home Shield for two drains. One was where my washer was, which wasn't draining fast enough so it would make the water come back up. The other was my kitchen sink, which was also draining slow. I did it online and it was pretty easy and quick. Waters Edge Plumbing worked on the drains and they were really good.

There was a leak in the upstairs bathroom bathtub from a nozzle, which leaked down into the kitchen. I explained to American Home Shield what happened, they told me that they would contact me with a plumber that would come out and take care of the matter, and they did. The contractor was here 15 minutes to diagnose what the problem was, 15 minutes later he had it fixed, and 10 minutes after that, they were gone. They were very quick, clean and professional.
Thanks for your feedback. We love to hear when we have provided fast and provided fast and professional service. And we are always here if you need us.

I just moved in and the front door, back door, and garage door all had different locks with different keys. I wanted them all keyed the same. I called American Home Shield and they scheduled the service. The rep, as well as the contractor that came out, was good. The contractor was very professional. I originally called them out there because I have locks inside the house in some bedroom doors. But I didn't have the keys so I figured I might as well get them all rekeyed. The guy said he couldn't change them without the key. That didn't make sense because that was the reason why I needed them. We ended up doing just the outside locks and I just replaced the handles inside. I was gonna pay part separately to do the extra locks because it's an extra cost for other locks. Everything's fine. American Home Shield is definitely worth it. The guy had an $85 service call and it was $20 a lock. It would have been $250.

The ice maker stopped working and the gentleman from Sears came out the next day. He called me before he came and I told him what was going on, the noise it made and that it stopped working. He had a spare part in the truck and he fixed it on the spot. It's working now, so all good. This time was the best experience that I've had. However, I had problems before. In the past, AHS had the same system, but you would call in and you might not get a callback. They would schedule the appointment after that and that might be two to three days. Then, they would leave and say they had to go order the part.
I had a refrigerator go out and lost all the food in it. That was 1,000 bucks worth of food and then it took them three weeks to fix it. It was a long time. That was a bad experience. But I used AHS a couple of times, for small things, like ice maker and a hinge on a microwave and to get somebody to come out and fix it, a 100 bucks is worth it, plus the 700 a year.

I was never disappointed with a company in my life but with American Home Shield, I was totally pleased. Everything was perfect. We're returning customers. We had American Home Shield for a long time. Then my daughter talked me into going with Choice Home Warranty because it was a lot cheaper. That was a big mistake. I would never go with anybody for American Home Shield. I had an appliance claim where they sent Sears out. It was a long lead time to get them here, but once the tech got there, he fixed the issue right on the spot. He even had the part with him. He didn't have to order anything. He was a very nice gentleman. Everything's working great now.

I was talking to my sister-n-law and she said that now that I’m retied, I probably should get a home warranty, which was why I decided to get one. The first claim was for the AC and the guy was very knowledgeable. They have all been. This is the second time we've used AHS and I’m satisfied. I went through the phone to make the appointment with American Home Shield and then, Care Appliance Repair was here two days later. The technicians showed us what caused the issue and told us what to do to prevent it. They had their masks on. The technicians working on the refrigerator right now had to order a part but they were very timely.

With our most recent claim, AAction Air Conditioning and Heating came out for our AC. They said one of the motors went out so they just replaced it. The AC is already running so it’s good. American Home Shield is convenient and well worth it if you have a home. You never know what can happen.

Recently, our hot water heater stopped working. The tech ended up fixing both of our hot water heaters and replacing the heating element. It seemed to have worked. We submit claims with AHS mostly online. The difficulty is sometimes getting ahold of someone if you need to speak to them about it. There's a long wait to call. But otherwise, everything's done easily online. In this case, the original person they were gonna send out was not available, like they weren't doing home plumbing. So AHS had to get a different vendor and that was a little bit of a hassle, but otherwise, not terrible.

The bedroom air conditioning unit wasn't blowing any air. The guy that came out said that they thought that it had a short. He changed out the transformer, and he was still having a problem. Then, he replaced some wiring and it started working fine. I did the claim through American Home Shield's website. I requested service, and paid the 75 bucks, and then they sent somebody out.
We had a really good experience. We've had American Home Shield for three years. They do a decent job. We’re happy with them. As we've gotten deeper along with them, I find that the coverage becomes less robust at the same price. We don't have major problems. But with a 15-year-old house, you're gonna have things that happen.
Thanks for sharing you experience.

I submitted a claim online with AHS about a plumbing issue I had in one of the bedrooms. I was very happy about the process and how it turned. The contractors were COVID-sensitive. He was very courteous. I like the fact that they confirm the appointment first through text and a few hours before the appointment, they sent a reminder, and 30 minutes earlier, they sent another text letting me know that the technician was on their way. Great customer service from their end. It’s been great. I had one stoppage and one leak. The two issues were fixed. Since then, I haven't had any issues. I would recommend American Home Shield 100%.

Ever since American Home Shield came out with online, I've been doing claims there. But the last couple I’ve had to call in because of the issues with the other company not fulfilling their duties. I had an existing dryer claim with another company that was basically giving myself and American Shield the runaround for months. The contractor wasn't participating in the way that they were supposed to be. But this was just a one-off time. With my microwave claim, CD’s Appliance came out and that was taken care of. They were able to do what they were supposed to do. American Home Shield remedied the microwave issue right away. I've referred people to them. For what I pay and what they fixed, I don't have any issues.

I had a plumbing issue and I submitted a claim online. Then, AHS set up a plumber to come out to my house and he was excellent. He fixed it in about five minutes and everything has been working perfectly since the repair. It's super easy to use AHS and I've never had a problem. But sometimes it takes time to get service. So, if you have a serious emergency, like your AC goes out in the middle of summertime, it may take them a day to get a person to your home.
