My AC didn't run so I called American Home Shield at their office and the representatives were very helpful. Triple Crown Heating & Air came out, looked at the AC, cleaned it, and it ran about two hours. Then they came back and did something else to it, and it ran about two hours, and they finally had it replaced. I was without air conditioner for almost a month. We had to get it approved to make sure that the company couldn't repair it. But I had an air conditioner on the second floor so I put fans and that kinda helped bring some of the air conditioning down there. The Triple Crown people were very easy to work with. They explained things and were very nice people.

A&B Plumbing came out to service my plumbing issue for a water heater that went bad, and the tech was phenomenal. He was very knowledgeable, he knew what he was doing and he was very punctual. They had to replace the whole water heater and they did it in one visit. I did the claim over the phone and the American Home Shield rep was very nice and helpful. Definitely great service.

I've been with American Home Shield for several years now and I like their quick response. About six months ago, my air conditioner went out and American Home Shield had someone come out and fix it. There was a coil that had been broken and then it had leaked 11 pounds of Freon. AHS would only cover $10 and the freon would be $100 and something per pound, so that was around $1,000 out of pocket which I wasn't expecting. My insurance company was gonna try to help me cover the amount of the freon, but I couldn't get the paperwork from AHS. Nobody would give me the receipt, so I had to pay for it. They should cover more of the Freon. It is expensive and not a lot of people have $1,000 that they can just take out if something’s wrong with it. But this time, everything was great. The air conditioner was broken and it was really hot. Thermal Tech came out right away and got it fixed immediately. I was very impressed.

My icemaker was overfreezing and leaking. I spoke with AHS' reps and they helped me out. However, I had to re-call twice because the icemaker still does the same thing. The contractors were professional and nice, but they kept saying they fixed it because it was giving ice. And then, the last time that they came out, they said I need a new icemaker. Also, the wrap around the refrigerator that seals it keeps messing up, which is not normal. I’ve already replaced it about four times. The service guy told me that my refrigerator model isn't being made anymore, so they just give me the closest part to it. But AHS did what they can do and it’s fixed. Now, if it breaks down again, they have to give me a new one. Apart from that, everything is fine and I would recommend them.

Previously I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my air conditioning. I replaced the unit myself and AHS and the vendor did not follow up with me getting reimbursed for that. I was never reimbursed by American Home Shield, or the vendor, Cecil and Sons. More recently, there was a time when I had a high water bill and I was trying to see if there were leaks. I submitted a plumbing claim online to American Home Shield and went through an easy process. The contractor they sent was professional and prompt. He performed a dye test on my toilet and checked the meter. There were no visible leaks, so there wasn’t much for him to do.

Allcity Appliance and HVAC did a great job and they were extremely professional. They took care of business, got to the root of the issue, and we had no issues. As always, AHS contracts out people that come in and do a very good job, and we appreciate it. So, I’m a big fan of AHS and I try to promote them as much as I possibly can to those that don’t understand the value of a home warranty. I’m in the service industry and I know how hard it is when you’re dealing with third parties, how you can’t always be there and hope that they do the right things. But I’ve never had an issue with the 8 to 10 years that I’ve been a member. So, I’ve gotten the right luck of this draw.

AHS has been excellent but sometimes I’m not pleased with certain things. I know they try to repair things, but if something is so old and they’re gonna repair it, why? They should replace it. They want to keep repairing things. I don’t like that. Also, to submit my claims, I call them. They need more people that speak English. They're difficult for me to understand and then it's difficult for them to understand me. I can’t stand that. I hang up because I'm tired of repeating things three times. I have no disrespect and prejudice to anything towards a different nationality. But when you are doing communication, you need a little bit more time to learn the speech. Other than that, when I call, AHS takes care of stuff.

We ended up having to pay out-of-pocket for some of the repair with our AC claim, but the contractor was timely, efficient, and he fixed the problem. But I wasn’t satisfied with the contracted repair company for the washer. According to the people I spoke to, I didn’t have a choice, and that the $100 fee had already been paid to this particular company, so they had to follow through with the rest of the repair. But I still haven’t had my washer repaired yet, and it's been three weeks. And every time I phone American Home Shield, I get put to a call center in the Philippines. We're able to communicate, but I get the same scripted answers to all of my concerns. And I'm really not talking to anybody that can help me. They're just people that are reading off a script and saying what they’ve been told to say. I may renew with American Home Shield, but I'm gonna look at options. I just had a bad experience and the resolution wasn’t very satisfactory.
Your concerns are understood regarding your AHS experience and the delay in service to repair your AC system . I would be glad to speak with you to reach a resolution for the washer machine.

American Home Shield's website is pretty straightforward on clicking what service you need and what the problem may be. I’m not sure how that translates to the contractor though because I had problems when the contractor called me and asked me what was going on. I had two different claims with my AC unit and both contractors called me on the same day, so I thought they were calling me for the same issue. I explained to the contractor the same issue, but when they got there, I realized that what we talked about that morning was not the case. So, it’s easy to input the problem into the website but I don't think that translated to the contractor very well. The claim for which I had the company look at the unit itself, they were able to get the job done. The technician was really fast and and very polite. He was able to pinpoint what was going on and resolved it really quickly. He was there for about 10 minutes.

My interaction with their rep was great. I scheduled it on a weekend, in the evening, and they called the immediate Monday and came out that day. They were so good. Since we've had AHS, we've had three different technicians come out for three different events and all of them were perfect. They couldn't have been more professional, very kind and very informative. A lot of times when you deal with young people and you're an older person, they talk down to you, and these don't. Before I had AHS, I had another warranty-type company for a couple years, and they were horrible. We had a couple of repairs with American Home Shield with different contractors on different areas that needed it, and they were both excellent. The washing machine was leaking water at the bottom and the hinge on the lid was broken. If you open it, it could fall on your head and it was heavy. I did the claim online through American Home Shield’s website and it was quick, easy and intuitive. I have the plan with AHS where you can choose 10 systems, depending on your home and what you have. If someone was gonna sign up for AHS and they just got a new washer and dryer, then they wouldn’t want it to be part of their package. They might choose something else like garage doors. So, it’s really nice to have the flexibility to be able to do that and I would advice anyone that’s looking for a home warranty to not hesitate with AHS.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for about a year and when I submit claims, I call them on the phone. It’s a lot handier to do instead of going online. I’m 100% satisfied and I'm very pleased with them more than I ever have been with Choice Home Warranty, which was why I switched and went with them. They've got a lot of good nice people to help me with the appliances, so everything's good. I’m 100% happy about my service with Midwest. Everything in my house is 10 years old and I wouldn’t get new appliances if it weren’t for Midwest and the other contractors that AHS hired for the sink and the toilet. The lady with the guy who helped me on my toilet is thinking about switching over to AHS. Also, I've met a lot of nice people through their company and I'm very happy about that.

Central Valley Plumbing came out recently and they fixed a faucet in the master bath, and then a faucet in the shower. But we're still having the same issue and it's actually worse. We put in another claim to have them come out, but we haven't heard from them at all. The tech was okay, but with some of the parts that he put in, it didn't resolve the issue. American Home Shield could have better communication on the customer service end, because you never get to talk to somebody that is based here in the US. It's overseas and they don't know what's going on. They could also have a better response rate from the contractors.

So I made another phone call, and then the contractor called me back and said that they had to get approval back from American Home Shield. That delayed it a day, and it would have been nice if we had it the next day. I've had coverage with American Home Shield for three years now and so far, our experiences with them have always not been positive. There were lots of loopholes. They’d say, “Oh, we can fix this, but this is not broken. We can’t fix it. It has to be broken.” So, they’d come out and I’d pay $75 for someone to just say they could’t fix the problem even though it was not functioning properly. So, I won’t have AHS much longer. The technician for my AC claim was an exception though. When my AC was leaking, he came out Friday to inspect and he came back Monday to repair everything. He was really good, but most of my other experiences have not been positive.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused Ashley. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you in an effort to resolve your claim. I look forward to speaking with you.

My experience with Integrity Air Conditioning Services was excellent. We have zoned cooling and heating, and one zone was not working. There was no way we knew how to do that, and it turned out that one of the thermostats was bad. We’ve got four thermostats in the house, and one of them was bad. And in addition, the pipes needed deep cleaning out. The tech did a thorough job of preventative maintenance on it.
I usually call American Home Shield to get a repairman, and my interaction with the representatives has been quite wonderful. I really have enjoyed the ease of it, and I don’t have to go fishing around for a provider. And the ones that have come have been excellent. It takes less than 4 hours for a contractor to do the first follow up.

Initially, their rep said they could send someone, but because I’m working, they gave me a four-hour time frame. The electricity had gone out and my husband called American Home Shield. The tech came out and he had to replace one of the outlets in the bathroom. But we still have a problem. We have a well system, and that was part of the problem as well because when the pump went out, it caused the electricity to go out as well. American Home Shield was trying to tell us that the well pump is not covered. This was because of the nomenclature that my husband used. He said water pump and they did not want to cover that because they said they don't cover water pumps, as if we were talking about a car and not a well. So, I had to get it done by somebody else. That was another $1,000, so I didn't appreciate that.
Now, I found my contract, and it does say that the well pump is covered. But because my husband said water instead of well, we’re gonna have a little back and forth because of that. We got back a long way, that’s why none of this makes any sense. And I don't like this. American Home Shield have stopped sending out paper copies of the contract, and expect you to look at everything on your phone. I’m’ 65, and I don't do that. I want paper. And I found my contract from last year. It’s on the paper that the well system is covered. But I would still recommend people to them. They just gotta do a little bit better as far as working with the homeowner. And instead of saying, “No,” look over what we’re talking about, and then, maybe both of us can be educated in our verbiage and phraseology.

I first signed up with American Home Shield when I was living in another part of Georgia, and then when I purchased another house, I just kept it going. I like the way that it works. Summer Breeze recently came out and the tech was excellent and very professional. I had to call in that claim though because for some reason, the website was giving me a problem. Nonetheless, since I’ve moved, I’ve been targeted by other companies but I told them I’m staying with American Home Shield.
Great Elaine! We are happy that you chose AHS. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have a good week.

With my most recent claim regarding my electric issue, the tech came all the way from Tampa. He was a nice guy. He just pushed three buttons there for three seconds and my garage was down. I had to pay the copay but I was thankful that my garage door went down. On another claim, I've been with a horrible shower. It's leaking. They ordered the part for me on Amazon, but it came broken. So, when the guy installed the shower unit of the two showerheads, he said, "We gotta order a new one, but we have to go through its warranty." It's from China and there's no warranty on it. The next week, they said they were able to get a new shower, but it's the same brand. It's awful. I'll let this one go and just pay for my own shower that's better.
It takes a really long time to go through stuff and get stuff fixed because it's with the warranty. The back and forth is really hard. You never know who you're gonna get on the phone. Thank God, I work from home, but for people who don't, I don't know how they could do any kind of work. You have to stay home in the hours that someone comes to get your stuff fixed. You have from 8:00 in the morning to 1:00 in the afternoon. The timeframes are important and that's hard. But that's not AHS' fault. It's the people who they hire.
AHS does some things really well, and I'm really happy with. But the customer service is so important as well. When I speak to someone who understands me, it's great. But when you get people from a different country, they give you the runaround and they have no clue, it is so frustrating. I can't deal with it. Every time I call AHS, it's like I have to call 10 times. Sometimes, I get lucky. Sometimes, I don't. The reps are from India or wherever, and they do not understand me. They put me for 45 minutes to an hour or two talking to them. When you're on your phone and you're paying for when you're gonna get new items, there's a long hold. They call you back and then you're on hold for another hour. That's really frustrating. AHS should put everyone back to being from America and not outsourcing it.
It's been 15 years since I've been with AHS and I have given them so many recommendations. However, they won't even let me renew my policy. They mailed me a letter saying that I couldn't. Certain things have broken and I have filed legit claims. It's been for two homes. But this is exactly what a warranty is for. It's like insurance. I paid for it. If things break, they get it fixed. It's in the contract. AHS said that they spent too much of their money, and I'm not worth for their people to be having me. So, I went with a different home company that will be getting my business.

I've been with American Home Shield for too long and I'm currently My air conditioner's line was frozen. I submitted a claim for it to American Home Shield but when I called, their call center is not in the United States and I don't like that. I pay in America and like to speak to someone in America when I have questions or when I just wanna talk to a person. Sometimes I'm out of pocket and I'm not able to get on the computer to start the process of opening up the service ticket. I called and had to talk to someone in Pakistan or India or wherever, the Philippines. It rubs me the wrong way. My experiences with American Home Shield over the years have been wonderful until I have to call in and I couldn't get someone in America.
AHS' contractors have been very nice and accommodating and I'd recommend their service. Even so, when it comes down to customer service, I need to be able to relate. The people that I know in my age bracket, they don't want to relate to someone they can barely understand. I commend the reps in the Philippines and Pakistan 'cause I can't speak a second language. But they don't seem to understand us quite the same way. When I talk, I have to talk more trying to get them to understand what my problem is because their thought process is not American.

There was a problem with the system of our thermostat. It wasn’t putting out cool air. The technician from J&A South Park came out and looked at the system, and he was able to pinpoint the problem. Fortunately, it ended up being a small component within the system as opposed to have the whole compressor replaced. He had the knowledge to get the problem fixed without just scrubbing the whole thing and making it cost a lot more than it should. So, we were happy with it.
This was the first claim, and it was easy. The online or over the phone whenever I made the initial call about the problem, they were quick in getting back to me. The technician came out on the first occasion to try to figure out what was going on and then they had to wait for a part. He came back two days later and installed the part, and everything was fine. So, they worked with my schedule. Everything worked out well as far as getting the equipment fixed, and the technician was fantastic. American Home Shield was certainly beneficial for us. Our warranty is limited mainly to the HVAC system and the related ductwork. But, it paid off. It was worth the investment.

In the 2 years that I have been a member with AHS, I have never known them to require 24 to 48 hours to assign a vendor for repairs. A vendor was always assigned immediately. This is most inconvenient because there is a delay in assigning a vendor and another 24-48 hours delay for the vendor to come out to do the repairs. There is also the problem of not understanding the person you speak with on their end and one cannot communicate easily with them. I am very unhappy and disappointed with AHS.

AHS caused havoc on my bank account. My contract with AHS started June 25. They have been charging my bank card 39.95 four times, and back in August, after I made the 159.96, they were supposed to only charge for three months in advanced. Then in September, and even October, they kept charging me then refunding it. I just had to block them to stop payment or future payment.
Recently, I submitted a claim online and used $100 from my bank with my debit card to pay the $100 service fee. American Home Shield sent me an email saying they called me at the authorization number and said that certain services were not covered which they had mentioned in the contract. The tankless water heater was covered based on the contract, but when the Plumbers Inc. came, they didn't put a tankless water heater, but it said all these listing items were not covered. So far, it's just piping and all that besides the water heater, and that's $713, but they did cover the other things like the toilets and the garbage disposal. I didn't dare use my bank card to pay Plumbers Incorporated. I had borrowed money and someone else paid that for me when I scheduled that. That payment went fine.

The tech checked and then he had to go and check again with the company to make sure that it was okay, that it was gonna be covered, before he put in the claim. They did a good job. We submitted a claim online to AHS for the freezer. One of the first guys came out, and they said the fan of the freezer wasn’t working but he couldn’t fix it. Then, he came back out, they fixed that. And then, the temperature in the freezer started where ice cream was getting soft, so they sent another guy back out. He was a Sears guy, and they couldn’t find the serial number on the door. They said they couldn't work on it if they didn’t have the serial number. So, to me, all they gotta do is call Samsung and say, “Hey, this is what it is, what’s the part number?” But they wouldn’t do that.
So, they sent another guy back out, and he came out. The evaporator had a restriction, and he couldn’t fix it ‘cause he didn’t have the part, he had to come back. Then, they sent somebody else back out, and that guy complained all day about his back, and he didn’t really do anything. Then, they sent a Sears guy out there, and he said, he couldn't do it because it doesn’t have the thing on the door that tells them how much Freon is supposed to be in, he said that it’s probably low on Freon, but he wouldn’t do anything.
Then, the last time they sent a guy out, he was from a place called Quality. He hooked up, he pulled it out, and he said, “Y’all don’t have like they’re saying restriction.” He showed me, he said it was low on Freon. He put Freon in there and it’s been working perfectly. All he had to do was charge it with Freon, and he checked it for a leak. It was like nobody wanted to work on it and nobody compared notes. Somebody is not knowing what they’re doing. But i ’s fixed as of last time.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Larry. I've emailed you as I would like to make sure your claim is resolved. My name is Stacy and I look forward to assisting you.

On October 19, I made a call to American Home Shield as I usually do, asked someone to come and fix my dryer and the washer, and then, I paid the amount I was supposed to pay. Two gentlemen from the company that was assigned came out around two to three weeks. They took the dryer, and they got the washer, and they told me they fixed it. The guy put the clothes in the washer, it ran, and they told me, “It’s good.” They put in the dryer. It was running. He told me he could feel the heat, so everything was fine.
I was really excited because I’ve not had the washer and dryer for the whole of summer. I didn't have money so I was washing the clothes with my hands, and I put them outside. I hang them because it was summer. The gentlemen left, so I had to start the washing. When I went to put the clothes in the washer, it would be running, but the water didn't rinse out the clothes. There would be still water in the washer. So I thought, “Hey, I think the dryer is working. I can do the same way, use my hands, squeeze the water from the clothes, and put in the dryer while I’m waiting for the guys." I was gonna call them. So, I did. I put in the dryer, the dryer ran, and it stopped. I pressed again. It ran, and it stopped.
I didn't call American Shield the same day, but I called the guys. I told them, “Hey, what happened? This washer and dryer is not working.” They told me, “Oh, this is what happened. Maybe we’ll come and look at the washer, but the dryer, we realized there’s something which is broken. We are gonna buy this part, and we are gonna come back and fix.” I didn't tell them anything. And in my mind I said, “Wait a minute, if they knew that something is broken in the dryer, they could have told me, ‘Hey, we are gonna order the parts, we’ll come back.’” But they told me everything is done and I can start my washing. They didn't tell me that they needed to order parts.
I called American Home Shield and told them, “I called these guys. This is what they told me. They told me they are gonna order the part. So, I know sometimes when something is broken, some parts needs to be ordered. I said okay. This guy told me they are gonna put a recall so that they can come back." Somebody had to know that I called the guys. And I told the lady I spoke to that I was not happy that they didn't tell me the dryer was broken and they were gonna order the part. I waited for one week. The second week, I thought of calling them. Because the time they called me when they were coming, I misplaced their number to call. I could have called them directly. So, I called American Home Shield. I told them, “These guys have never come. I’m still waiting. What’s going on?”
The gentleman I spoke to told me it showed that the part had been ordered. They didn't know why they have not come. So, they were gonna call them and tell them to give me a call and come and fix the problem. I told him to please call them because I was kind of becoming impatient. They had the parts but they haven’t called me. The gentleman told me to give them a callback if the contractor would not call me so that they'd find out why they were not coming. That was on Friday this last week. They didn't call me back that Friday, so this AHS guy told me, “Okay, we are gonna send the information to the customer relationship. I’m gonna send them the email and follow up because this thing is going out of our hands.” I told the guy I needed to speak to a supervisor because if these guys were not coming to fix the dryer and the washer, they should send another person to come. Then they should start dealing with these guys.
These are not the only guys they have. AHS is everywhere. They are a big company. They don’t need to rely on these people. I told the gentleman to just get somebody to fix the thing. The problem is not AHS. The problem is the contractor. But I’m struggling. Yesterday was one month. And because it’s wintertime, the clothes can’t dry outside. I have to take the clothes in the laundry. I have to go with my kids because I work full time. I have to go with my kids outside. The smallest is two years old, and it’s cold outside.
When I submit claims, I like calling AHS and speaking to a person because online, sometimes, they all disappear. On my latest claim, I’ve spoken with AHS reps about four times. The first one told me, “Okay, let’s wait on the part. They told you they are gonna order the parts, so let’s wait.” The second one was okay too. She told me she was gonna call the contractors back and they'll take the parts if they have it. But at the third point, that was when things didn't go right because it was me speaking with the supervisor because I really wanted to speak with somebody and say, “You know what? This is what I’m going through, and I feel like you guys..." They need to do some compensation on me. This is not right.
I’ve referred people to American Home Shield. The other day, someone came for plumbing. I paid 125 and the guy came, took 20 minutes, and the thing was fixed. If someone is asking me, I tell him I pay $50 every month to American Home Shield, so I have peace of mind when something breaks. They were asking me, “How is everything going?” I would say they might be good people, but the vendors they have are not people who are like, “You know what? We have to take care of the customer because from the customer, we are being paid. And That’s where everybody’s being paid.”

I’ve been with American Home Shield for six months and I usually do the claims online. I had somebody come out earlier this spring, and they replaced the pump on my unit, which is geothermal. The contractor was slow and late. Then, I was still having problems, so I opened another ticket, where my condensing unit was freezing over, and the technician came out and put more refrigerant in. About a month later, I had the issue again. I called them back out and they determined that I had a leak in my coil, so they scheduled a call to replace my coil, and everything worked fine until I went to turn the heat on. I remembered that the first guy who came out disabled my heat to try to get stuff working so that I had some level of cooling in the early summer, and he never reset it. So, he’s coming back out today to fix that problem.

Reviewed Oct. 12, 2019
I typically stay away from warranties because I know the AC unit. I know what I do to it, I know when I bought it, and I know when I maintain it. But because I bought the house and I didn’t know anything about the units in it, I decided to buy a warranty to have the repairs done by it. So, as an extra protection, I've been with AHS since I bought the house in 2017. Filing a claim with them has been very simple and very easy. I just sign on to my account online and I select the unit or the item that is not performing, then I write a brief description and I can submit. Shortly thereafter, I get an email or a text and/or a phone call from one of the vendors that they have asking me if I got this date and time open for them to come on site. We either agree and make the appointment or we change the appointment and make another one. It’s been very easy.
Everybody’s been very professional, too. Initially, that was one of my hesitations in buying this warranty. I was worried that they were going to send out a cheap guy and I’m not gonna get things done like they’re supposed to. However, most of the contractors that came out here were eager to get the job done, make things right, and move on to one of those things. They've also been very courteous and very appreciative of the fact that American Home Shield added them on and allows them to gain some extra business.
Recently, there were multiple things going on with our AC. The air unit was turning on and off intermittently and it wasn’t able to keep up with the temperature upstairs. So, I called AHS and they sent out Amp Mechanical. They inspected the unit and said that the fan was frozen, which meant it was whacked up. So, they replaced the fan motor.
All in all, if you’re buying a home and you’re unfamiliar with the items within the house, at a minimum, I’d give getting a home warranty a try for a minimum of one year and to allow them to experience what I’ve experienced. If they don’t like it, they can cancel. There’s really no pressure on them and that’s what’s so nice about it.
It’s a $500 bill every year to have the service and it’s a good insurance policy to have especially when you’re unfamiliar with the items that are in your home. Now, it wouldn’t make sense if you built a new house because, now, everything’s new. Typically, all that stuff comes with a warranty. So, when I bought this house, I knew there was a lot of older items in the house and that was what drove me to do it. Then, I hesitated on year two as I didn’t really use it the first year. But then I decided to try it one more year. And essentially, it paid for itself a couple times over.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Timothy. Its great knowing AHS has been beneficial to you. Have an amazing week.

AHS sent out Service Mechanical and the repairman arrived on time. He was really nice. He went inside the air handler and found that it was just caked in dust. So, he removed the fan motor and took it outside. He blew it out, cleaned it up and reinstalled it. Now, everything works great.
We've used AHS' warranty five times this year and three of them was for that 18 year old unit with different problems. Rather than being able to replace the unit every time, they were able to fix it on the cheap. Going through them is still cheaper than if we had to go call out a repairman ourselves. When we place a request for service online, we always get a text or email back within 12 hours. Just yesterday, I went online ‘cause I got an email from them suggesting that we do a heater tune up. Because our unit is so old, we felt it was a good idea. I placed a service order and the guy just showed up this morning at 10:30.

My claim was for a salt water generator and it went pretty well with them ABNation, Inc. I'm really happy with the technician. I liked to know what he was repairing, what was causing it, and how to prevent it from happening again. And he explained how it worked and gave a lot of good information about it. He had to come out one extra time though. He knew the cell was bad. He could see it was leaking. Black stuff was coming out of it and that was the first time it was not working. The gauge also said "hot" and there were a couple of things that said it wasn't working. But he had to have a diagnostic done with the salt at the right level in the pool.
We had had to stop putting salt in there though and we had to switch to chlorine because it took a while to figure out that what I wanted to do was repair it or replace it. So we had to put in all the salt again and take it up to a level that was readable on the gauge of that generator. And because it wasn't working, the salt wasn't at the right level of the pool. Anyway, I had to get my pool guy to coordinate with him but they didn't coordinate. It had to be me that coordinated to get the salt level up in the pool to where it would read that it was failing on the salt generator.
So it was complicated. The technician couldn't change the part without specifics. But I'm only speaking of one particular repair job. If the pump was out, you would see the pump is burned out. But with something like this, he couldn't officially say it was bad because it was a $600 part. I'm forgiving them on this one instance. This aside, I file claims with American Home Shield on the phone and I'm able to get somebody quite quickly.

My microwave just died. I called AHS and told them what happened. Their rep scheduled me with somebody and said that a contractor would come out and fix it. After I hung up, the contractor called me within 30 minutes, scheduled an appointment and they came out the next day. He tried hard to get the microwave to work and it didn’t work. He said he tried to bypass something to still make it work for me, but he said, “I can’t get it to work because it’s not heating up at all. The light came on, but it wouldn’t do something. This one is just shot.”
Two days later, AHS called me and said that I could either take so much cash and just go purchase my own, but then I’ll be responsible for putting it in. I don’t know how to put it in the ceiling so I opted to just pick one that they had. They sent me a link to order, I clicked on it and I ordered a new one. It’s pretty much the same one, but a new model. And then the contractor called again and said, “I’ll be there at such a time.” By the time I made it home, they had put the microwave in and were gone. My mom said they weren’t even here like three minutes. The microwave is now working perfectly. From start to finish, everything was done within a week. I'd recommend AHS to a friend.

We had Drain Go come out over the summer in June and they replaced our sewer line. They had to take out the dirt and lay the new sewer line, and then they told us that we needed to wait 3 to 4 weeks before we lay the sod down because it could settle, and it did settle a foot down. Drain Go was nonresponsive after that and we constantly called them to come back out and take a look. They said that they came back out and also said that that was normal. Obviously, that wasn’t normal, but we went ahead and put sod down, ended up having to pull sod up, and add more dirt. So, we were not happy with that process. Then, in a recent claim, they were sent out again and they replaced a missing drain area. While they did not do so much with the outside plumbing, they’ve done great with the inside plumbing. We contracted them separately to do the sewage work through American Home Shield and they were fine.
We live in an old house built in 1968, and prior to that we lived in another house also built in the early 60s. We've been with Home Shield for 23 years or so and we like having the security and the fact that our major things are covered. Their service seems to be improving a little bit because the people that they do business with are usually open on weekends, which is helpful. Plus, I submit claims online, which is easy and that I can do at any time.

Our AC is not working. I submitted a claim to AHS and the reps were okay. The only thing I did not like this time is that it was over the weekend. We had to wait till Monday. They said if I wanted to do something like a pay out of pocket thing, I could have paid that service fee. But other than that, that was the only thing. The contractor sent was good. He explained what he did and he fixed it. And it was Freon that was needed. The AC has been excellent since the repair. I've been with AHS for more than two years and I'm gonna renew again this year. It has been beneficial in the past. It's just that I have to use their companies, but they probably contract with certain companies. I guess it's just part of the plan.

Our AC was not cooling. We went through American Home Shield's website to request a service and they sent out a tech from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas. He arrived in the window that we were allotted, looked at the unit, fixed it, and it took about 10 minutes. It turned out that a capacitor went out and the AC worked while he was here. It cooled off. It took a long time, but it hadn't worked for three days by the time he got there. He did what he was supposed to. All in all, we have AHS since June and so far, things are working out.

When called AHS for an issue, the process was easy and smooth because they knew what questions to ask me to find out what they needed to know to be able to put the claim in. Then GE Appliances came out. The contractor knew what he was doing. He sounded he had seen this issue before and he was able to fix it in a matter of minutes.

I had an issue with my toilets. I went online, opened a request through American Home Shield, and their website was very user-friendly and simple to use. From the time I submitted the claim, the techs from Circa Mechanical LLC came out within two days. The contractor also gave me a timeframe on when they would arrive. At the time, I had four toilets that were making noises and apparently, the flaps in the toilets were all going bad. He replaced them all and everything has been operating well since he came out, except for one toilet that still does a little bit of leaking. But I don't think that that's his fault. The chain on it would get stuck sometimes on the little flapper, so we just have to do something to pull that chain out sometimes.

We've had American Home Shield for this property for a year, but we also utilized them when we lived in California for three years. I've already recommended them to friends. Everybody has household issues come up where either the dryer goes out or their AC unit gets clogged up, and a home warranty plan winds up saving so much in the long run and takes some stress off. In one year, we had our water heater go out, we had our garbage disposal go out and then another thing with the leak. While we didn’t use it for the first two years, that third year more than paid for all three years that we had the service.
When making online claims, you don’t have to be on hold. You can just submit it and the response with who American Home Shield is sending out generally happens right away. So, you get the feeling that it's easy to submit a claim, they're on it right away so things get done quickly. You can feel good about things getting fixed in a timely manner and not have to worry about additional damage because something is taken well. High Priority Plumbing showed up on time and they were very professional. They came in and got the job done efficiently, and just in case there was water damage, they sent someone else that they utilize on a regular basis to double-check and make sure there wasn’t any subfloor damage. That was a nice extra touch.

When I asked why they are doing this without informing me, they said an email was sent 60 days prior to increase. I have all emails from AHS except this!!! How is this possible? When I asked them to tell when this email was sent, they said they do not know but can send me a new email. Very disappointed that they are taking advantage of CC information available with them.

On 21June I purchase 2 home warranty plans with this company, paying each contract in full at time of origination. One month later, while attempting to place a service call, I noticed an unexplained fee of $60 on my account. The fee made it impossible to place a service call until resolved. I contacted the customer service department which is in the Philippines and attempted to have the fee removed. They allowed me to place a service call and ensure the fee would be removed, but subsequently found out that the representative never did anything about it.
I called again on 30Jul, 09Sep and today 11Oct. I have spoken with multiple representatives who have assured me that “this fee will be removed,” that “a correction has been processed,” and multiple other assurances. They are even happy to offer their names and employee numbers as assurance, despite its clear insignificance in this case. Mike (#**), Ted (#**), Roxan (#**) and many more. They promise to send e-mails, speak with supervisors and accountants, but never actually let you speak with anyone in charge despite direct requests to do so. Customer service is a huge runaround and suggests this company does not have the consumer’s best interest in mind.
I am extremely busy and have wasted hundreds if not thousands of dollars of personal time value over the principle of this terrible process. Worst experience over the past 4 months and worst customer service experience of my life. It has been so subversive, incompetent and untrustworthy that I had started to think it might be a fraudulent business plan. I will be canceling my service immediately.

As part of our bi-annual heating and air conditioning inspection, the technician found a gas leak due to a leaky gas valve on our gas furnace. I filed a service request through American Home Shield (AHS) to have one of their approved technicians come out to confirm the problem. They promptly sent a technician out, but this technician could not confirm the gas leak even though I showed the tech a video of the test that was performed, where the leak was clearly evident. I asked my service company to perform an independent check. They came out and confirmed the leak again. I called AHS and they sent a second technician out from another A/C & Heating company. Based on that technician's findings, AHS approved the payment for replacing the gas valve. The replacement will be performed next week.
The second technician (Jake) from the second company was very knowledgeable and seemed very competent. The only issue I have is that I spent a great deal of time with AHS to make the case for the second technician to come out. However, once agreed, we had excellent response time, and in the end, they approved the payment, so I am satisfied.

So, if I had to reschedule or cancel, I could text them, for which they did reply promptly. But say, if I wanted to speak to somebody, I couldn’t reach anybody because it was going to the voicemail. Initially, I wanted to reschedule the service, and then I couldn’t because I had a doctor’s appointment. Then I wanted to keep the appointment because I canceled the doctor’s appointment. So, I was trying to call them but I couldn’t reach them. But then, finally, they responded through text. But sometimes, you feel good if you’re able to speak to somebody for much more clarity. But the rest, all was very good.

My garbage disposal all of a sudden stopped working and smoked. So, I made the claim with American Home Shield and they brought Plumbers, Inc. out. The rep was very nice and did what he was supposed to do. He thought maybe it was a bad garbage disposal, and it was still under warranty, so we just got a new one. He called it in and had it sent to me. And then, I booked for him to install it and but it did the same thing. So, he inspected the electrical outlet and found the outlet was 240 millivolts. He said the reason why it was shutting off because of too much power and that I needed an electrician. So, he had AHS book the electrician.
The first electrician came out, put a light bulb in the socket, like it’s attached to a plug, and said, “It’s not the outlet. It’s the garbage disposal.” I said that I was pretty sure I saw that it was 240 millivolts too which seemed pretty high for any kind of residential garbage disposal. He said it was the plumbing. So then, the poor plumber had to come out again. He had to put his machine into the outlet again, took pictures with his cellphone and sent it to American Home Shield, who quickly sent out a different electrician, ‘cause the plumber and I asked American Home Shield not to send the same guy. The new electrician solved the problem.
So what happened was that when the house was remodeled, they should have put one more separate circuit individually for the dishwasher and the garbage disposal. So, basically, there were more appliances on it than should be. But the electrician was able to change the wiring evenly to where it wouldn’t do it anymore. The garbage disposal's working fine since the electrician fixed it on Saturday. But I had to threaten that I was gonna report them to NBC 7 on AHS' site. They have a guy who already went after American Home Shield on it once and got the family $8,000 to pay for a new refrigerator.
I would love for American Home Shield to understand what a bad job they’re doing. I really got pissed off on who they use as far as getting someone out here in a decent amount of time. And when I would ask for different times, the operator would be like , “Well, we’re in Riverside County,” and then I’m like, “What are you doing servicing Carlsbad?" If they can't service it or don’t have a branch out here, then don’t service it. It's simple.
But the part that pissed me off the most about the situation was this has been an ongoing issue for several weeks. I admit that I have a difficult schedule, but I gave options yet I had to wait at least a couple weeks for the first time for the plumber to come out. I was at their mercy with scheduling. I had to leave work early several times because of the situation. I know the plumber had no control over to rebook them, and then, every time, I had to wait a week in between with the back-and-forth between the electrical company and the plumbing. And when it was actually an electric problem, the whole time was not very nice and fair to me and to the poor plumber who had to come out every time. Same thing with City Electric for the most part. And again, I had to wait a whole week for City Electric to come out the first time.

I had an issue with some of my plumbing, and I called Home Shield, and they sent the first plumbing company. This guy came out in an old beat-up pickup truck. I wasn't there. My daughter said it looked like just some guy just showed up that went and rented a little 50-foot snake. He just said he couldn't undo this clog and that he couldn't reach it because of his snake. He said he was gonna come back. Three days later, I got a notice from Home Shield saying that the work order was completed. So, I called them and told them it was not completed. And they said, "Oh no, no. The guy's saying that you had roots in your line." On the side of my house where the pipe was, it's all concrete. If it was the other side of the house, then yes, I could see that.
Home Shield was going to try and charge me $250 for another service call because in their thing, it doesn't cover roots and stuff like that in the line. So if I were to never call them to say it was not complete, they would've just sent me the bill. But being that I called and I explained everything, the lady was like, "Okay, let me set up for a second opinion." So she set up for a second guy to come out and that was when the issue got taken care of. The second guy who was from Plumbers Inc. came out and he ran it and cleaned it out. I've lived in the house since '97, and I've never had an issue with it. So, he said because it's off of the sink and off of the dryer, it was just a buildup of lint and grease that was kinda blocking the line. He pushed it all through and everything's been fine. The guy was very professional, did what he needed to do, and had it all done in 20 minutes.
I've been with Home Shield since I originally purchased the house in '97. I had them for a long time, and then I let it lapse for a while, and then I got it back, and I had them pretty much the entire time I've owned my home. I like that they're quick to get people to respond. But they need to really analyze who they're using. I submit my claims online. It's very easy and very fast. I usually get a response back by email and they usually give me the person that's supposed to call me within 24 to 48 hours. They always give the 48 hours, but I usually get a call within 24, if it's an oddball time or like on the weekends. But I always get a number also that I can call myself. 95% of the time, it's always a quick response on the contractor coming out. I've referred Home Shield to many people.

There was a burst pipe or a leak in the garage, in the wall up into the ceiling. It was on a Friday afternoon. So, I called American Home Shield in the number that was available and it said the number was not functioning, so I went online and called another number. I got an actual person, which was wonderful, who called the plumbing company and got an actual person, and they called back within a few minutes and sent someone out in an hour. I have not gotten a real, live person to talk to before, but it also has not been quite this urgent. The last time it was this urgent we had a similar incident, but that was five years ago and that was Easter Sunday, one of those untimely things. The process was prompt. This recent claim feels a bit more prompt, but it was also more urgent.
This contractor from RK Plumbing Heating & Cooling who came out was one of the best. His name was Cullen. Not only did get here promptly, he was super polite and he swept up after himself. And then he immediately put me in contact with the company to come do the drying out process and so forth. So this company was exemplary. He also talked to the insurance company while he was here and he was really good. The plumbing was fixed.
One time I had a pool pump that went out. AHS said it was not covered because a pack rat had gotten to it and I had no idea. All I knew was my pool pump was gone. So, sometimes it’s a little frustrating in the fine print. But for the most part, it’s okay. One of the frustrating parts is when you know that your hot water heater is on its last leg and you have to wait until the thing actually burst and runs all over the floor. It’s too bad that there is no kind of a provision that when it has been documented that the appliance is old or something, that you can’t avoid letting it go to crucial and having more damage. But other than that, I’ve been satisfied with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield had the best rating. The other company that I’ve used was horrible. Our air conditioner went out the summer before, and we didn’t have air conditioning from May until the end of August because of their contractors. They used four different contractors, and because they finally agreed to let me use my own contractor, that they would reimburse them, that was the only way we had air conditioning. It was a nightmare. But AHS is an excellent company. I had a great experience from the time I called to put up a claim. It was a great experience all the way around.
I’ve dealt with these home warranty companies before and every other contractor that they have ever sent, every single one has always been late. They take their time ordering parts. It’s always been a nightmare. But American Home Shield called me the same day to set up my appointment, which was a shocker because normally, companies take two or three days, the maximum amount of time. AHS didn’t. They called me right away and the young lady was super nice. She set up the appointment for the next day. The contractor called me when they were on their way and were on time. The gentleman was super nice. He went and checked the appliance out, and he said what the part was called. He said it didn’t have to be filled up with Freon as well, and the Freon, we have to pay for it, which we knew.
So, the contractor ordered the part and it was there Friday, and then it was ready on Monday. He came back and installed it. He was on time and it took him less than an hour. He was there and fixed it right up, and it was cool. And they called to confirm again, and he then called to check up on us to make sure everything was okay. We were so impressed with them. It blew my mind that they work for a warranty company.

My kitchen sink backed up and I couldn't unback it up myself. I can install a faucet so I was really surprised I couldn't get my sink unclogged. Usually, I don’t have to call anybody for help with that. I called AHS to submit a claim. There were moments when it was hard to hear the rep over the phone, but he was okay. It took a few days for J & A Plumbing, the contractors, to come but that was because I had commitments. And what's really notable was that they called me the very next day and had a cancellation, but I couldn't do it. Then the following day, they called again ‘cause they had another cancellation, and then that worked. I’m crazy about J & A Plumbing. I’ve had to have them out for more than just this problem. It seems like the Achilles’ heel of my new home is the plumbing and they’ve always been entirely professional, wonderful and crackerjacks at what they do. They handled it and it was fabulous. I love them.
I’ve been really satisfied with American Home Shield too. I’ve been so impressed that I signed up for a second year. And part of that is because my home is nearly 50 years old and stuff’s been going on. So, it’s comforting to know I’ve got someone I can call when stupid things like this come up. Renewing with them was a piece of cake. I was busy working and I couldn't handle it, but the lady took a minute, with my permission, to explain that I could buy another year of service. I told her I'd think about it. And then she called me back three weeks later but I still wanted time to think. She called me back again when I thought about it, and she helped me sign up and they sent me a new contract.

I was really happy with American Home Shield's service and process. I was in my jammies on Sunday night and looked up their website. They said, “If you need to have something done, type out all the information in here.” Then, they confirmed within 24 hours that they had contacted someone and confirmed with that. On Monday, I got a confirmation email from them. They scheduled somebody for Thursday, so it was very quick and easy. I got several email confirmations so I didn't have to sit on the phone and wait to talk to anybody.
The tech called the night before, texted in the morning before he came, and called again to let me know how much time it would be before he got there. He showed up on time and looked at the problem. He said it's something typical for San Antonio, but I'm still very concerned because none of my neighbors’ system is doing the same thing that ours was doing.
He was going to leave. And then I said, “Can you just at least check my system and see how my actual air conditioner system’s doing?” He was very polite about it and said that he’d be happy to. He checked the air conditioner. It needed a few pounds of Freon, and so I asked him to add those in. I gave him the permission in case we had to pay extra. He also told us what to do to flush the system for a maintenance purpose, but he never really did anything other than put a piece of equipment on our air conditioner to check if it did the Freon. It has subsided some, but it’s still dripping constantly. The overflow outside of our house was dripping so much water that it was flooding the whole side of the house where our foundation is, which is why we called them to begin with.
And he really didn't explain to me why our house is the only house that's doing that. I’ve looked at my neighbors, especially the ones that are right next door to me on either side, and their air conditioners are not doing that. We’re retired and home all day. My neighbors on one side work so they're not home all day. But my neighbors on the other side stay home all day and they have small children yet their air conditioner’s not doing what ours is doing.
The tech left and I still had questions. But obviously, he wasn’t the person to answer those questions because he said what our air conditioning is doing is normal. When I called the air conditioning place to try to talk to somebody to explain what happened and assure me that this is normal, they didn't answer. I’ve gone to their website and looked them up on Facebook to see if other people have had this kind of situation or similar situation. When I looked it up on Google, some people said it was supposed to do that, some people said it wasn't. So, I was left confused, but I’m not gonna spend another $75 to just have somebody come and tell me the same exact thing.

It was leaking around the base of the toilet and inside the toilet. The mechanism itself would make this high-pitched whining noise, and we could never figure out why. AHS sent a contractor from Kintex and he took the toilet up and fixed the seal. He re-flattened the area underneath. But as far as the whining sound, he went in and took a look at it and said that it was fixed, but that part hasn’t gone away.
I also had an air conditioning claim, and I couldn’t get somebody out because my AC died on a Friday, and they couldn’t get somebody out ‘til Monday, and I have my 70-year old in-laws living with us. I called up and they told me to get an external contractor. So, I get the external contractor, then they started telling me that they were not gonna cover things. Now, the external contractor who, I guess, I did okay with, but I'm not thrilled with, came out and said, “By the way, your air conditioner needs to be replaced.”
And now, American Home Shield is telling me that not only do I not have a choice but to get my new air conditioner through him and deal with this mess, but still not sure whether they're gonna pay my initial claim, which was a Freon charge, but it didn’t fix anything because it was a Band-Aid fix for the bigger problem, which is the AC needing to be replaced. I had to spend $450 on Freon and they're covering $10 a pound. And they're not even saying for sure if they're gonna cover the service call.
I got an AC to get addressed and I can't get anybody to talk to me. The AC guy blew me off. I can't get anybody in American Home Shield to authorize anything because they don’t want me to bring another technician in. I'm stuck, and I am not happy, and I will probably be cancelling American Home Shield once the air conditioner issue gets resolved because, number one, getting $10 a pound for Freon is ridiculous. It cost me $89 from the freakin’ AC guy. And then, having them say that they're not gonna cover the service call, which they took my money for the first guy and I haven’t gotten back my $100 deductible. I haven’t gotten anything back. I have some serious problems with that claim.
The AC works now because he charged the Freon, but it's not gonna last. It's going to go again. And they said it would be cheaper to replace the unit than to hunt down and patch the current one because it's not cost-effective and it's not the proper solution. So, if we can find out who I need to talk to on that, I would definitely appreciate finding out how to get that done instead of ending up in India when I call. With my overall experience, I would not recommend AHS.

American Home Shield is good to have for emergencies, like what we just recently had and it worked out well. The technician was very good. However, we’ve had a couple of technician come in who told us, “You can’t repair this. It’s not repairable.” And there were times when they said, “Well, you know, it’s not covered.” That was a little bit of a discomfort when I went through a few things with them. I had to fight with them. I said, “No. I know it’s workable and it was working fine," and then they sent another technician. And so basically, I ended up paying for two technicians instead of one. At the end, it was resolved, but it did cost me more than it should have. They should have sent a decent technician who knew what he was doing to begin with. I didn’t have a dishwasher for three weeks and I just left it alone at that time.

If you have something really wrong, AHS doesn't wanna fix it such as my air conditioning. We went back and forth and it was a mess, so I just hired someone and paid $5,000 to have it done. AHS would only fix the easy stuff. If it's difficult or the kind that costs some money, they would find their way out of it and so, I’m not happy with them. The toilet was leaking and the contractor called, came out and I paid $100 for him to put a little round thing on the toilet. It took him five minutes. I said that I have another leak on my other toilet and he said that I have to call it in. So, I had another call with AHS. Even though I already paid $100, the contractor had to do $100 for each order even though that was nothing. Still, I had a good interaction with the rep when I called American Home Shield to submit a claim.

I called American Home Shield about my dishwasher and I was told that their contractor would get back to me within two days. They didn’t do that so I called them, and as it turned out, the schedule was such they could send somebody the next morning. The guy fixed the dishwasher and it worked fine. The top rack though keeps sliding forward when the dishwasher is open. When you’re loading the bottom rack and putting weight in it, it slightly tips the machine just enough so the top rack comes forward. The guy said it's missing a clip and end-stops, and he would find out what they cost then I can decide whether I want to order. But he didn’t put anything in his notes and didn’t do anything about it. When I called the company, the owner of At Bay Appliance was very on-the-ball. He looked it up and said that my dishwasher model doesn’t have those.

I was getting ready to go to bed, a little after midnight, and I went into my refrigerator and noticed that it wasn’t cooling. I called the 888 number of AHS and I got connected to some gentleman at about 12:30 AM. I told him I wanted Direct Appliance to come out to my property and he said okay. And by 9:15 the same morning Lior, from Direct Appliance, was out here and diagnosing the refrigerator. He got here in about nine hours, and I didn’t expect him to get here any time before 9:00. He called me at 8:15, and then he was on-site at about 9:30.
He was super professional. Right out, he was super fast. He diagnosed the situation, and then he said, “I gotta get a part.” I said, “Well, how long is that gonna take?” He didn’t know, but then he went back to his warehouse and found that he had a part, so he was out here the next day. And so within less than 48 hours my repair was made. When I started the refrigerator up, we were hesitant to put anything back into the refrigerator. I called Lior and said, “It’s right around the temperatures it needs to be.” And he says, “Okay. Well, that’s fine. It’s been more than 10 hours. Start putting food in the refrigerator.” He added, “When the food gets in the refrigerator, the temperature will stabilize.” So, on the follow-up, we had questions, and he answered. All in all, super positive experience.

Every time I try to talk to American Home Shield, there’s no one out there. They give me the runaround. And when I first talked to someone from American Home Shield, they told me what my coverage would be. And then, when they come out to do the work, they say it ain’t covered. So, I’ve been having a hard time. When I submit my claims, I talk to someone on the phone with a representative. Most of the representatives I’ve talked to seem like they can’t understand what I’m talking about. Their English is not that great and it seems like I wind up speaking with someone that’s just learned English. They usually call me when someone’s coming out.
The first time the contractors came, they fixed the kitchen sink. They replaced the top of that where you turn the water on. They replaced the valve. But in the bathroom, they said they couldn’t replace that valve and it’s left there. And then, they fixed the pipe in the kitchen, but they left a bigger hole in the wall. They didn’t finish it. They fixed the leak in the kitchen. I called them the second time, but I thought they’d be sending someone back to patch up the hole. They sent them back for the wall and down in the kitchen sink, and then they knocked down some of my sheetrock in my bedroom. But I haven’t heard anything from anybody about coming and patching up my hole.
The contractors' work performance was not good. The first time, I didn’t like their attitude. They were like they didn’t wanna do the work. And then the second time they came, they just left everything. They fixed it, but they took out the drawers in the bathroom, and they said they couldn’t replace the sink or fix that, and they left the water stopped-up in it. I wound up unstopping it myself. I called the supervisor, and he told me the way that sink’s made, they couldn’t unstop it. But I wound up unstopping it myself. I put some Liquid-Plumr down in the sink. It’s an old top-mount round sink and they said they couldn’t replace it because of the conditions of my contract. But I said, “At least get the water down.” They couldn’t even do that and I’ve got drawers underneath and now my drawers are in bad shape.
They still charged me to come out here though, but I figured they wouldn’t do that. They charged me $80 co-pay fee. I didn’t like Walston’s performance. When I talked to someone about having to send somebody else, they’re like, “That's it.” I called the supervisor, and he said he would try to start communication with American Home Shield. But every time, their communication is not great. He said it’s not that they don’t wanna do the work. He was saying that the work is not on my contract for them to do. I know that American Home Shield is really good. It’s just that the people that I have been in contact with weren’t good, and I wasn’t satisfied with their work.

The garbage disposal was leaking at the bottom. I've replaced it a couple of times myself and it was just easier to have a contractor come out. Aaron from Hers & His Plumbing came out, replaced the unit, matched it up perfectly, and everything was good. The only thing is the things came in threes. The AC went out. The contractor came and put in a call on that. When the AC guy was coming back, I went to open the garage door and the spring was broken so I couldn't open it. They said the track assembly was not covered and the spring was not covered under that. I thought that was a little misleading. Engineering is my background, but a track is a track, and a garage door opener typically works with a spring. You would think anything that works with the door would be covered. That's the only complaint I have but it could be me not reading through the policy and understanding exactly what it covers.

My husband had a complaint with Service One Air. They came out and put too much Freon in our AC unit. They wrote us up a receipt saying they sold us 12 pounds of the Freon, but our AC only holds 7. We called them and my husband spoke to the owner of the company who was really rude and said that his employees would not do that and didn’t do it. And then he wouldn’t refund us anything, and denied that it was causing any problem. He did not want them back out here to fix their problem.
When we had the problem with Service One, we called AHS and we couldn’t get anybody to give us somebody that we could talk to. Everybody was giving us generic answers like they couldn’t give us a name or someone to talk to or a phone number to call. They kept giving us typical like book answers. Finally, this latest girl that we got ahold of was able to help us. We’re happy because we just wanted somebody with authority to help us with Service One. We ordered another person to come out and help us, which resolved the problem without having to deal with the other company again. The second company, US Air, came out and said that our AC was hissing and that there was way too much Freon in it. They fixed the problem and they were great.

They helped us with one of our dishwashers which had problems. Then, I had my air conditioner fixed. They do quite well so I stayed with them. Two weeks ago, we started a claim for our fridge. The fridge is only four years old and we've been having problems with it for the last six months. Every month, I would unplug the fridge, take everything out, put the fridge in the garage, wait 24 hours and plug it back in. It freezes up every month.
Amann came in and said, "I think I know what it is". We unplugged the fridge and cleaned it out really well. There was a clog in the compressor. He told me to wait about seven hours or to use a blow dryer to see if it melts 'cause it froze up. I used my blow dryer and it melted the ice. I plugged it in and there was no sound. The appointment was last Friday and it's been making noise for three days straight. I blame myself though and maybe I didn't unplug it long enough. Last night, I unplugged it and let it fall for 24 hours. Hopefully, it will work.

The gentleman came out, looked at the dryer, told me what I needed, and he said he would have to order parts and come back. So they called me back, and by Friday, he was back out here with the parts that he ordered. I had a heating element that had caught on fire, and the lint was in the bottom of the dryer and all over the dryer. He cleaned out the dryer for me. I had some damage that I thought might be due to a leak. But the plumber said he would have to cut a hole in the wall. The damage is inside, but there's nothing in there that would cause the damage. So, it might be coming from the outside and could've been from my sprinkler system he said. However, he didn't know anything without cutting out a whole in the wall and said I have 30 days to make a decision. At that time, I couldn't do it, so it wasn't resolved.
But overall, I've been very happy with the contractors. The only thing is that American Home Shield seemed to change contractors a lot, like every couple of years. So, if there's one I really like then the next time, I might not see them. They've done that with plumbers and a pool company that I have used a few times. It was a perfect visit and everything is working okay since then.

I had someone come out from the gas company. They had done work next door, and they turned off my gas for an hour and then put it back on. And the water heater wasn’t lit. I didn't wanna mess with anything, so I had someone come out from the gas company. And they said it was leaking all over, horrible things could happen and to turn it off immediately and call somebody. So, I did and filed a claim with American Home Shield. The contractor said that I got to replace it, it's nine years old. I had to muscle the guy to come out because I got four women in here with me, and they wanted me to wait four days. But they came and replaced it. It was two young and nice guys, and they fixed it. But I paid $545 out of pocket. A nice guy from customer service explained to me this fee.
I’m a retired policeman and federal agent. For 50 years, I was in law enforcement, so I know how a lot of these things work. And the reasoning for the $545 was one was the permit. We needed a hundred and a quarter for a permit. And then it was the hookup. It was a new hookup now with the permits. They changed things and I had to hook this up coming outta the roof. When they went to hook it up coming out of the roof, they didn’t do anything about it actually coming outta the roof. He said he had to tear everything out. But the guys were good and I got a water heater in there. I had them give me a bill and all that with everything written out. But they put all these little things on. That’s how they make their money. And so, that’s life and that’s how it works.
Before I had used American Home Shield, I had somebody come out for my plumbing. I had three things wrong with my plumbing, little things. As soon as the movers put the washing machine in and they turned it on, water was flying all over outta the thing. He said the connection was no good. The one coming out the the wall, it looked like a regular hose connection from outside like that we all know about, the little nozzle. So I said ok. And then the garbage disposal, something got stuck in there. Then I had a leaky faucet in my shower that was dripping. The plumber I called out said it was 356 for this, 388, 333. And so, I figured the way that it worked, with a plumber coming out each time, unless it’s a big job, it has to be 300 and something. They have to come to it. And the fact that I had three of them here, this guy said he would just put them all together and make it 1,000. That was crazy.
Then I remembered I had American Home Shield. I forgot 'cause I just bought the house. I called them and at that time, it was $75. A guy came out and I gave him an extra 20 for lunch. He looked at the washing machine and said the hose wasn't put on right. He took it off and put it back on and turned it on, and it was fine. It took him literally 10 seconds. Then he went under the sink, and he said, “Here, you see this little tool. You turn this, and it takes the teeth in there and it opens it up. And if anything that’s in there drops out, you tighten it back up.” I said, “Oh, my god. I’m an idiot. I can do that.” I said, “Where can I get one of those tools?” He said, “Here.” He went in the bathroom and he did his little magic in there. That took him five minutes. This guy was in my house in 10 minutes tops, and he only charged me all for the one thing. I can't tell how good American Home Shield did and how good the guy who came here was.
And I didn’t even have the money on me. I said let me run to the ATM and gotta buy him lunch at least. He was reluctant. I made him stay and I gave him the $20. You gotta pay them before they do any work but I wasn’t getting any money till Monday. My pension came in on a Monday. I asked if they could hold the check for a couple of days. He said yes. As it turned out, my pension check came early, so I gave him the money right away. But American Home Shield was willing to work with me.

I’m a teacher, so I can’t get home till after 3 o’clock and the times on there were from 8:00 till noon, 1:00 to 5:00, and then another one that was during the day. None of those times work for me, so that’s what I filled out and then the next thing I knew, I got scheduled for a day that definitely didn't work for me. I got an email saying that the contractor is gonna come at 8 o’clock on a Monday, but I talked to their rep and he told me that it could be scheduled whenever I wanted it scheduled. A tech came and he was very professional. He fixed the problem and asked if there was anything else he could help with. He answered a few silly questions I had, and then he left.

He also told me that I needed to defrost the freezer, meaning unplugging it. So, they couldn’t do anything until the lower half defrosted. The refrigerator has been functioning good now. I have two garages and both the garage door openers had failed. The contractor from American Home Shield fixed one of them with a replacement part, but he wasn't sure if he was gonna be able to replace a part on the other one or have to put in a new opener entirely. And so he went back and was doing all the checking. Two days later, tropical storm Imelda decided to settle over the house and flooded everyone in the area, so he wasn't able to get back out for another week and a half. Once he had the new garage door opener, he came right out. I was at work and he put it in and left a new remote opener for it. There wasn't any problem other than things that were out of our control.

I have a plumbing claim that's been open for several months now. The contractor is coming out again on Thursday morning to see if they can figure out how to adjust it. But they're good at what they do and I really like them. I was also pleased this time because AHS started charging upfront. You call in a thing, pay $75, then down the road, somebody gets back to you.
There have been a couple of times when I’ve had to work through getting a piece of equipment that I wanted. Usually, I have to pay a little extra, which I don’t mind doing, but I don’t like having the replacements. It seems to be that AHS is getting a lot more replacements that they like to offer now. Also, we’re not really rural but we’re not accessible so a lot of the companies that AHS hires to do things won’t work with home insurance companies so they have to come from quite a distance. But the claim always gets resolved though sometimes I have to call a few times. All in all, we’re happy and we’ve been with AHS for a long time. Things that had been broken had been replaced. That’s why we carry AHS ‘cause we don’t like those surprises.

The tool that the contractor used was not sufficient for a regular job to get it done. They came out three times and the person came out two days past and my sewage line got clogged up. They came and cleaned it out, and then two days after that, it got clogged up again. Two days again, they came out the third time with the same issue. So, all three times, they used the same tool and they didn’t get the job done. It’s mainly a retriever, not an unclogger. I was gonna call the fourth time, but that was too much. By the time American Home Shield was trying to get Boss Plumbing to come out, Boss Plumbing was telling them that they needed to put a camera in my sewage line to see what the problem was, and it was gonna have to be provided by me. They were trying to get me to pay out of pocket for a camera that I didn’t need.
AHS couldn’t get the final answer from Boss Plumbing, which delayed them in coming to my house and it eventually led to sewage being in my property on my patio and my front yard. So, I wasn’t too happy. I contacted AHS every day but they kept passing me over to somebody else. They kept trying to tell me that they were gonna call Boss Plumbing to verify the details, and then to stay on the line, and their phone connection would get cut off every time. I would even tell them that if they put me on hold, I already knew that they were gonna hang up on me and it was gonna be over.
I had to do what I had to do to get the sewage out of my yard because I had feces in my front yard and I was not gonna put up with that. I got kids and neighbors, and I didn’t want them to see that. So, I got a different company and I had to pay out of my own pocket. They came out, and I told them what the other company did. They told me that the C-cutter was supposed to be used, which was the standard for this basic job. They did it in one swoop, cleaned it out, and my sewage line has been clean ever since, which was two weeks ago.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for about a year and for the most part, I was a happy customer with them. I’ve had issues with my AC unit, and it was fixed. They did a good job. But the customer service of AHS is not well-equipped. You can tell that they hire out. There’s always someone on the line whose English is not their first language. Also, they don’t have supervisors on hand to answer any questions. They always refer you to somebody else but never a supervisor.

We're trying to get our watching machine and our dryers fixed, and American Home Shield recommended Superior Appliance Services of East Texas. They fixed the washing machine, but we've got no idea when the dryer is going to be fixed. We were given a tentative date of the 27th of last month and we never saw anybody, and they didn’t think of ringing and say, "Okay, we won't be out today." They also need to communicate with the depot where they get the parts from to get an idea when the part will become available. It's now been about 3 weeks and we're still out of the loop, wondering when the dryer is going to be fixed.
When the technician came out, initially, to take a look at the problem, we understood that the part would be ordered that day but, unfortunately, it wasn't until 2 days later that the part was actually ordered. So, they have to improve on their communication. They need to keep the consumer updated, especially when there are situations where parts have to be ordered. We're not being mean when we were saying, "Look. This is the situation. We need this dryer working." And they were made aware of the make of the dryer and everything like that. We're all disabled in our household and we can't really dry our laundry with no dryer. So, I'm rather dissatisfied with the service. On the other hand, AHS said they'll be working through Superior Appliance to make sure that our dryer was repaired PDQ. And I've been with AHS for over a year now.

Our microwave wasn't working and when we would turn it on, it would trip the breaker. And it was the only appliance on that breaker. First, we called an electrician through American Home Shield. He came out and looked at it. He was able to replace the breaker and said that it wasn’t like the breaker was overloaded. It wasn’t an electrical issue. He said it was definitely the appliance. So that led us to file another claim for the appliance and that was when GE came out.
It was all online when I submitted the claim and that was very easy. I was able to schedule the technician online, which I really liked, and he called me about an hour before his time window. He also asked a few questions about the microwave – what it was doing so he could have an idea of what he would come in to and what he would need to bring with him – and I liked that. The fact that he called and came prepared was super convenient for us because when you buy a house, repair need to be made and it’s really hard for us to take time off of work and be home for this to happen during business hours. I really appreciated it. Then when he got there, he was able to tinker with the microwave. He replaced a part or maybe more than one, and it was working at the end. He was in and out very quickly too.

I called in a service call for a leaking toilet and American Home Shield sent the company out there called Shields Plumbing. Shields Plumbing came out and the guy didn’t even look at the toilet first. He just said what was damaged but with the plan that we got, they could go ahead and fix them but we would have to pay an amount. I told them to hold up because they didn't even take the time to see it, but he insisted that American Home Shield was not gonna pay for it. He said he was going to call his supervisor back to his place and I asked him to give me a copy of the write up of everything that was wrong. Then I never heard anything back from them.
A day later, American Home Shield called me back and the lady said that they could send another company out. I asked her why I needed to have another company out if they were gonna charge me another fee to do the exact same thing. If that was going to be the case, I might as well go and cancel my American Home Shield. So, we sat down and talked, and she said that they would send another company out to evaluate it and see if it would be repaired or replaced.
They sent Wichita Mechanical out. The toilet developed a whole big hairline crack on the side of the tank and the water was just seeping through. The top part wasn’t broken, but the guy looked at it and everything else on the inside was starting to brittle up and break down like there were some little stones in there. All of it was dry rot and deteriorating. So, they came to the conclusion that they were just gonna replace it. Overall, it was very surprising ‘cause I never figured that American Home Shield would actually listen to the customer and help the customer out compared to just taking all of the words from the initial contractor that evaluated the situation.

The air conditioner was turning on and off by itself. I did a claim on the American Home Shield website and it was pretty easy to do. But it doesn't give you an option to kind of select what you need and then leave comments under that selection. It's just select the most general need. And then they said that it would take 48 hours for someone to contact me back from American Home Shield. But the actual air condition company called me back in 24 hours, and I was out of town. So they came and they had to come back out later versus coming within the 48 hours from when it said on American Home Shield.
On the second day, I was home and they were able to fix it. Everything was great with the air condition company. They were really nice and very professional. They had to put more Freon in the air conditioner. But I wasn't happy with how much American Home Shield was able to pay for per pound. The Freon was $30 or $40 per pound, but they only paid for $10 per pound.

There was a time when I had leaking issues with my kitchen sink. I submitted an online claim to AHS and found their website functional. The contractor whom they sent was very professional and polite. They rushed the service on me. Originally, we scheduled a date but things came up and we had to reschedule. The guy who was gonna work on the sink one weekend made a deal with his boss who asked if he wanted to work some extra jobs 'cause they had a schedule for that weekend. So, the contractor asked us if we were cool with the tech coming on Thursday night instead of Saturday. We got the sink fixed early and it has been fantastic since then. I wish AHS could lower their price so that they match their competitor's rate. Even so, they provide really good service so I can understand why they don't do that.

Cal Valley Appliance Repair was amazing. They were sent by American Home Shield for the refrigerator. It was freezing all my vegetables and not cooling on the top. The contractor was a very nice man. He wasn't able to fix the refrigerator within the same day because he needed to order the thermostat. It was the thermostat that had the problem. I did wait for quite a while. It was more than a week. But the minute the part came in, they scheduled me with him right away. My fridge is doing really good.
I usually do my claims over the phone. The AHS reps have always been very nice and professional. Aside from them raising the price on me for the 79, I'm fine. One thing I like about American Home Shield is the tracking system. I can tell when the repairman is coming, and I don't have to wait. They're pretty good about keeping to the time they said. And I love the fact that they send me the picture of the repairman who is gonna come. I can track how far down the street he is.

Our water heater has some problem. It would be dry in one or two days and then there would be water on the bottom floor. I thought it was leaking, but the plumber said it was not so it's not a water heater problem. It's just that hot water sometimes overflows through the pipe. This is the third time he has come back. AHS also sent another plumber who said the same thing. I have to just wait and see what's going on 'cause they're the expert but it's not a pleasure to see the water on the floor.
There were many areas that AHS didn't cover for me. This guy from Anguelov International fixed some drain pipe but I paid $470 to him. He said American Home Shield would not cover it. I'd wanna try to get some compensation from American Home Shield. They should cover for the work on that furnace drain pipe. Other than that, the guy is very nice and really good. My basement was flooded and I didn’t know if it was coming from the water heater or from the sump pump. It shut down the whole home and we couldn't use our basement. I called AHS and the rep I talked to was great. They put in an emergency or expedited the service since the basement was flooded. The contractor from Parker Plumbing came out the same day. They got the problem fixed and cleaned up after themselves. They got up as much of the water as they could. They were very professional.
I've noticed though that since my contract has changed, we have come out of pocket a whole lot more than we had to come out with it first. Not only that, our price has increased. But normally, if I had an issue, they get the people out to get it fixed. Still, my overall experience with AHS has been great. I would recommend them.

My claim with American Home Shield went really well. It was super simple. I went online, paid and it was like, "Oh, okay, cool. Done." The only thing that I thought was confusing for me was I didn't know if I was supposed to call the contractor or he was gonna call me, so I did call him. But I'm really happy. That was being the first time I had to use our warranty, and I'm super thankful for it. The gentleman came out within 48 hours, identified the problem, corrected it and they were done. It was unusually easy. It was very, very nice for him to come in and just say, "Oh yeah, I see what the problem is." He was thoughtful. He pulled up the toilet, took care of it and cleaned the area. I love that he brought a bucket and took the yucky stuff with him. He was awesome. That was a legit plumbing call.
And I was hesitant because when you have an issue, you always fear that someone's gonna come in and tell you something worse or it's gonna be a bit of fiasco, but he was very straightforward. He seemed very honest and very professional. And being that it's warranty work, sometimes I'm hesitant too because you'll never know if you're gonna get great service or they're like, "I'm contractor for your warranty," and sometimes you feel like even though you should be treated just as equally as good, I don't know why some people do business for warranty companies because they seem like they hate it. I've had that experience in the past, but this guy was awesome. Even if I didn't have a warranty I would call this guy back.

A week ago, my washing machine broke so I filed a request for service. I got an appointment scheduled and then I looked up the company that American Home Shield had assigned me to, and they had horrible ratings all over the internet. So, I called them and said that I would like a different company. But they said that it was a good company and that they trusted them. So, I let it go at that.
An appointment was set for Tuesday afternoon but the contractor never showed up and never called. Then another appointment was set for Wednesday afternoon, never showed and then I got an email saying that it had been scheduled for the next day. So I basically told AHS that I didn't wanna deal with these people and asked to find me someone else. AHS found me someone else who was supposed to be here Saturday but no-showed as well. I assumed they would call me on Monday to reschedule, but haven’t heard anything from them.

The signal on my dryer turned on, but it wouldn't actually turn on. A technician from AA Dependable Appliance Service came out and said that there weere parts was were bad. He needed to come back after ordering the parts which took almost two weeks and replace them. In the meantime, he also suggested for me to have the vents cleaned out. But I'm a little disappointed that AA Dependable wouldn't do the vent cleaning part when they came out. They used to do it, but they don't do it anymore. Also, the tech said American Home Shield wouldn't pay for it. So I called a separate company and paid a separate fee. They came out and said that it wasn't actually clogged, but I still had to pay. Then the little vent covering outside was taken out and was supposed to be replaced, but they never did. So now, I'm worried about bugs getting into the vent hole.
My dryer claim went well. AA Dependable had come out for my dishwasher before and they were good with that as well. But I had other very bad experiences with American Home Shield which happened before my dryer claim. The company they sent out for the AC came two days after the leak started, which was crazy for an air condition because the ceiling kept getting worse. When he left, I asked him if we should mop up and put towels down around the secondary pan just in case it would leak again. He said that it was dry now and that we didn't need to do that.
The technician also said that I might have a leak in the secondary pan, so I got a little worried. I asked him what would happen if it would leak again and he said that he cleaned out the line and it was not leaking anymore. So I believed him. Then I thought it was interesting that he didn't ask me to leave the air condition off. I went to work and came home 10 hours later, and water was dripping from my ceiling and it damaged my carpet, hardwood floor, the drywall and the ceiling. American Home Shield said that they don't pay for the damages from the leak. So it hasn't been repaired.
Another whole story, AHS sent out a different company who wanted to replace the air handler. The tech told me that everything needed to be replaced. I called one of my neighbors who was also an air conditioning guy and his guy came over and said that we didn't need to replace it. American Home Shield said that they would only give me $1,500 for a $7,500 new unit or they would just replace the air handler, but they wouldn't pay for the ductwork and the Freon that had to go with the new air handler. So I was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
The air condition is working and it's not leaking anymore and so I don't feel like I need to replace it right this minute. But I haven't gotten the repairs done yet because it's expensive and I have to pay for it out of pocket and I don't wanna get the ceiling repaired and then have it leak again. American Home Shield say that they are going to provide all these services but when it's actually done, they only provide a part of it and then you end up having to pay a lot out of pocket, so that's frustrating. I would not recommend American Home Shield.

I had another service request before that where my garage door opener had broken, and I didn't understand that it was covered by American Home Shield. I realized it when I was re-upping my account because we'll be ending in October. Parts had fallen and shattered on the ground so I swept up the garage and put it away and then, when the techs came out, they saw half a part that was missing that had fallen to the ground, so they wouldn't cover the policy. American Home Shield said they couldn't help and goodbye. They have a very strict set of parameters and they talked to me like they hoped not to provide service and any opportunity possible.

Updated on 10/17/2019: I just wanted to write a little update to my situation with American Home Shield. I was contacted via email shortly after posting my review for a possible resolution. I responded to advise that my issue still hadn't been resolved after 4 visits and no call back from AHS or the AC company. Monday afternoon I was contacted by an AHS representative. At that point I was offered A. To let the original company come out in an attempt to resolve issue, to which I said no thank you, four tries is quite sufficient. B. They would send a different vendor to assess the situation, or C. I could find a company myself and send in an invoice for reimbursement based on what was needed.
I chose to have a new company come out. This second company immediately recognized mistakes made by the other company. He informed me that the previous company had placed a second dryer line near the compressor/condenser and it was not a two way dryer and as a result of this part being a one way dryer (pointed the wrong way) it blew out the valve stem causing refrigerant to escape after the previous company stated that the correct amount of refrigerant was placed.
To add insult to injury the technician pointed out that the dryline was placed with plumbing solder. At this point the technician attempted to replace the valve stem releasing a decent amount refrigerant. I was in told he could remove this I can't line and that I would need 10 pounds of refrigerant costing $95 per pound. I was informed that American home shield only covers $10 per pound and I would be responsible for the remaining $850.
I called American home shield this morning as I believe this is very unfair that this cost should fall to me due to the previous company's error. I was again informed by the representative on the phone that American home shield only covers $10 per pound, I verbalize that I understood how much American home shield covers however this was not my fault and would like to speak with somebody and customer service to recover my losses. This cost should be incurred by the previous company due to their errors, and a reimbursement made to me. I have emailed the person who contacted me And have received no response. At this point I have had to spend money on 2 service calls at $75 a piece and $850 in refrigerant which is well more than the policy cost. At this point I am feeling extremely ripped off and disappointed.
Original Review: Well, I am currently on hold for 20 minutes and counting after calling 3 different times in the last 2 days. I have had the same company out to service my AC because they have not been able to properly fix the problem. I am currently waiting on the 5th visit as they "needed parts", which has been the case. Oh and I just got hung up on after listening to hold music for 20 minutes, yet another wonderful experience with AHS. I digress, I have expressed how unhappy I am with this company and I was offered for AHS to contact the vendor on behalf for resolution options. The company said they would send out a master technician, twice they have sent the "master technician" the second being yesterday in which they sent 2 technicians, one was on their 1st day with that company and the second thought it a great idea to offer his personal phone number to my wife because he does "side jobs", still not sure which of the two was the master technician.
Update on phone situation I am on hold after calling back to speak with vendor relations or a supervisor after the call center rep who I can barely understand due to a heavy Filipino accent as has been the case for all calls I've placed to AHS. Long story short going on 5 service calls and after expressing my discontent to AHS was told Id have to pay $75 if I want another company sent out. Well, if the caliber of company that has been sent out thus far is representative of who they will send again, I am completely at a loss for words and without AC.
I apologize for the way we have handled your ongoing a/c issue Mark. My name is Stacy and I will be contacting you via email in an effort to assist with a resolution.

When it was determined that my dishwasher was beyond repair...AHS offered to replace it with a lower end model that was not comparable by consumer standards. With the annual cost of an AHS contract, the multiple $75 service fees I had to pay for the same issue added to the cost difference to replace the dishwasher with a “like” model (same quality and features that they considered an “upgrade”)… well… would have been much cheaper to buy a new appliance outright.
Once you are at the point that they are going to have to pay to replace an item, be prepared for the Customer Service Representative to argue, deflect and refuse to assist. Your only choice is to accept a cash offer that will not cover purchase and installation, select an inferior model and hope that they have it in stock or pay several hundred dollars to “upgrade” to a model that compares to your own. Just trying to figure out what models are in stock vs. out of stock is a lengthy and frustrating process.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

My wife and I bought a new home this year and have it covered by AHS. We were relieved to have AHS coverage because our HVAC system was already 26 years old and looked incredibly rusted and unreliable. On Thursday, 10/3 we asked AHS to send a technician to evaluate our system because it was barely blowing cold air. The technician's report showed that technically the unit could be repaired. At the time, I was disappointed, but not too upset because I assumed AHS would cover the full cost of repair. I was told AHS would contact me to schedule the repair. That night, the HVAC system completely stopped working and we woke up to a very warm house in the middle of the night. I called AHS at 4:00 am (because why not? I couldn't sleep!). They said they hadn't received the technician's report and couldn't help me, but they'd follow up ASAP on Friday morning (10/4).
By 2:00pm I hadn't heard from them, so I called AHS. They told me my unit needed a repair that cost over $2,500 total and that AHS would only cover $1,360. Included within the portion they won't cover is an absurd policy with R-22 freon. R-22 refrigerant has been banned by the EPA and will no longer be imported in 3 months, so the price is relatively expensive -- anywhere from $80-$150/lb. AHS will only pay $10/lb of R-22 refrigerant. That alone was quite frustrating. Both that they covered such a small amount, but also that their best solution is to pump in old, banned gas into an already 26 year old system. I decided to investigate the cost of a brand new unit since mine was already 26 (TWENTY SIX!!) years old. I got a quote for $5,680 from the same company who came out originally. I shared that with AHS and they absolutely refused to cover more than the cost of a repair, of which they'll only cover less than half.
Then, I dug deeper and found the most infuriating evidence of a nefarious money-hungry corporation: AHS's own website has marketing material that tries to recruit new customers that says "An air conditioner typically lasts 10-15 years. Clearly, the older a unit is, the more likely it is to have performance issues and need repairs." I called AHS and called out this inconsistency, but they simply tried to force me to accept their cash out option of $1,140 so I could fix it (not replace it). I spoke with the technician who diagnosed the repair and he plainly told me he would never repair a unit that old in his own home, but that his opinion didn't matter because AHS would never offer to replace the unit. He said he's seen AHS repair 31 year old units all the time.
So, AHS convinces new customers to pay hundreds of dollars in annual premiums when their unit is 10-15 years old. Then, when a unit is 11 years beyond the high end of their range, they still refuse to replace the unit. This is completely misleading and dishonest. If you haven't guessed yet, I plan to never use AHS again for a home warranty and highly recommend avoiding them for your HVAC system.
I can understand your frustration in regards to your a/c system Bobby. I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you in an as I would like to speak with you more about your claim.

We have had issues with our air conditioner that is over 13 years old and continues to require repair. If it can be repaired, even a band aid to the next repair, AHS will require it to be done at the cost of the consumer. This is not good for the environment and we have to pay top dollar for the Freon that continues to leak out. The companies that they have contracted with do not even do their job to check out the system to fully understand what is the problem which requires them to come back time after time. Then they try to sell you a new unit because they know it is going to be a problem again and again that AHS will not replace until it is 100% unrepairable. I am not trying to get anything out of the warranty other than what I have paid for over the last 5 years. There has been a lot of out of pocket costs and inconvenience to repair.

My advice to any homeowner looking for a reputable home warranty company to hold true to their word, Dont bother! Instead, put your money that you would typically spend on any major home repair or replacement in a saving account. That way, you dont have to experience double the loss unlike me, I had too and pay 15 + years for service (which I used maybe once) and when I finally needed to use American home shield they said sorry, oh well! And I still had to pay everything out of my pocket... Dont make the same mistake I did. Save your money and dont pay this company a dime..
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have had several issue with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

On September 12 a service was requested thru AHS and now October 8, 2019 and this issue has not been resolved. They are quick to do the monthly charges and service fees, but when it comes down to the service they are horrible. I keep asking for a supervisor or manager to contact me and it appears that they do not exist. I am told they will call back but have not been successful. They have sent at least two technicians to assess the problem and have not been able to fix it.
I apologize for not resolving your issue in a timely manner. I can understand your frustration Oscar. My name is Stacy & I've emailed you in a effort to resolve your claim. I look forward to assisting you.

We were doing a check-up for the furnace, and I saw an email from American Home Shield offering that service before the winter. I went online to put in a claim for it and the contractor got back to me within 24 hours. They sent me a text message for the schedule. They scheduled the service within seven days. They were actually gonna come a lot sooner than I was available. But it worked out fine. I will recommend American Home Shield. But it would be better if we don't have to pay the contractor when he comes out. I had an incident where my tenant paid cash to the contractor, but they couldn’t find the money. It was a big deal. But they straightened it out.
Paula,
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

Everything went well with our plumbing claim and Friendly Plumbing did a great job in resolving the issue. Also, I've been with American Home Shield for a couple of months now and the claim submission process is good.

The motor in the pool house was leaking. I called American Home Shield and submitting the claim went very good. I’ve never had a problem with them and that’s why I’ve been with them for a few years. Alchemist was excellent too. They did beautiful. They cleaned up when they finished. You would never know they were there. I was out of town when they came. Unfortunately, things break on a Sunday so it was a little tough. I haven’t had a vacation in years and that was the first vacation that I had. I trusted American Home Shield so I left the gate open and the contractor came in, the guy did his work, and he locked the gate when he left. I left him a tip and that was it. I’m happy with AHS and I wouldn’t leave them.

My air conditioner wasn’t working. I called Home Shield on a Friday and First Choice AC Company didn’t come in until Monday. That was the most available schedule. I asked them that there has to be somebody out there that could come over that day, this was when it was really hot, but the guy said, "No" and to me, that was not good customer service. Also, I called because of the plumbing and the same thing happened. I had a leak that same Friday on my shower and they couldn't get a plumber out here so I had to turn off the water. The issues happened at the same time and it was the weekend. I said I had to shut off the water from the shower and then I didn't have AC. It’s over 100 degrees here.
To me, that’s not good. I've been a member for so long. They take it out of my account and that’s unsatisfactory for me. That was an emergency and they needed to have somebody 24 hours on call regardless. But with the overall work, the contractors did a good job and the AC is working good. I asked them to check my ductwork and the tech went up there and he said they needed to be rewrapped. But he said he doesn't think American Home Shield would cover it because it looked like I've had a little pest up there but that I could call. He should know, so I didn’t bother to call and I had to get my own contractor come out here and rewrap all the ducting up there.
With the plumbing, the contractors came in and it went good. The only thing about that one was that they were coming from out of town. The guy called me and said that he was behind schedule. He was supposed to be here at 11:00 and he didn’t come out here until a little after 1:00. He said he had an emergency out there. So there I was without water but I didn’t have a choice because I already paid my service fee. But he came out here and overall, he was very nice. It was a major job and he didn’t leave until about four or five hours later. The faucets from inside the shower were all damaged and he replaced all of those.

Before, I just called American Home Shield to file a claim and now, I just go online and submit it. Ben’s Appliance Repair came out and it was great. The contractor didn’t fix the issue at the beginning but he came back and ordered a different part, and everything is working great now. The refrigerator door had been squeaking and making lots of noise when you open and close it. He also had to order a part initially and it was a small part. But it was still making noise. So he had to order the whole hinge for the door and that fixed the issue.

I filed claims for the air conditioning unit, the electric outlet and the furnace tune-up in the same week. I needed to get things done and I called American Home Shield to request for service. I’m having a follow-up today on my air conditioning unit. I have an overflow set up like a safety precaution. If the air conditioner is running and water builds up too much, it has an overflow where it would shut it down. So, it’s a possibility, there may have had a blockage in the line. The contractor told me it wouldn’t be any problem to call and I had this experience last night where it overflowed again. So, they’re coming out this afternoon. It’s great service with the contractor. The work done was professional and I would recommend AHS.

I had an electrical issue in my home where I have tenants. The light in the hallway went out, and it somehow affected the air conditioner. I called American Home Shield and their reps gave me the name of an electrician who was gonna go over to the home and take care of the issue. K Richardson Inc. came and the tech fixed the problem. With AHS, some of their contractors would get back to me within 48 hours. If my basement is flooded, I don't want them to get back to me in 48 hours. Still, I would recommend this company. I'm happy with them.

We’ve had American Home Shield for a long time and I’m satisfied but I hate that they keep raising their price. It used to be $50 when I first started and now, it’s gone up to 75. I called in a claim to AHS when we couldn’t get the water heater started. The contractor just held the button and it lit. He was great. It was just our own ignorance not knowing how to start the water heater but it’s about 15 years old and we’re kinda waiting until it blows.

Royal Flush AC was the best. American Home Shield sent them for our AC. It wasn't blowing probably because it's an older house. It's my parents' house. I have American Home Shield for myself. I also have it for my mom and dad. Another company came out first which is Airtronics. I don't think AHS should use them because they came out first, and it was almost two weeks, and I had heard nothing back from them nor AHS. I called AHS, and they were okay. Airtronics was supposed to get back with us with their finding and let us know, and they hadn't gotten back with AHS.
Then they spoke with them and then they were supposed to get back with them to get something approved, and it took almost two weeks. I called again. It's like nobody's willing to give it up. So, the third time, I told American Home Shield, "Look, I'm not going for you waiting on them to get back with you. It's been almost two weeks. These are my elderly parents. You know what I mean? And it gets up to 100 degrees here in Houston. So, it's probably even hotter in their home. And I had to go buy fans and everything up, and so please do not tell me that." That means somebody is not following up. Somebody should have been following up with them to call. So, on the last call I made, a young lady answered the phone. She looked at the file and she said I was right and that she was going to request that someone else would come out, and that was when Royal Flush came out.
On the day Royal Flush was supposed to come out, American Home Shield called me saying Airtronics got back with them. And this is the part that I did not like. The lady that called me from AHS didn't know that the other lady had already requested someone else to come out. And I didn't say any different because I was trying to get some resolution to my mom and dad. She said, "We'll you don't have to contact us. You can contact Airtronics directly and try to work something out with them." I told her I would because I knew a new company was already coming out, so I didn't say anything. Royal Flush came out and resolved the problem that day, and everything was paid for.
The contractor told me about some things that need to be upgraded because it's an older house, but nothing more had to be done that day, and everything was covered. My parents weren't changing the filter correctly when they should be. And everything that was floating around was clogging it up. The contractor was able to unclog it, and he said the draining pan wasn't draining properly. He unclogged that. He told me to make sure they get new air filters and they'll be changed out every 60 days. Some people say 90, but he requires it 60 days. He did a wonderful job and was very informative to let me know what needs to be done.
There were some things that needed to be upgraded and he said, "But if I was you, I would try to have them get a whole new system because next year or a year after this, they change it up, the AC refrigerant." So, he really was very knowledgeable. He let me know what needs to be done and he took care of it. I tried to call back to American Home Shield, but I never could get customer service online to let them know about Airtronics.
I recommend American Home Shield regardless that someone didn't stay on top of Airtronics. I just feel like Airtronics knew the procedure, and they should have gotten back with American Home Shield in a timely manner, so I don't really fault American Home Shield for that. I really recommend them to people that I know that got elderly family members because they're on a fixed income. So, I love American Home Shield.

A pump was broken on the dishwasher. I initially went online which was easy, and then I had to call someone. The AHS reps are from another country but they’re very polite. However, the issue wasn’t fixed. I don’t understand what happened. The contractor replaced the pump but then returned it. However, the contractor was very good. They’re coming back on Wednesday so we’ll see what happens.
