Recently the dryer was making a really loud noise and wasn’t drying the clothes. The claim was resolved literally within hours. It was amazing. I placed the ticket, and then Home Buddy Appliance Repair called and came the same day. They had the part on the truck, and they were done in three or four hours from the time I called to the time I opened the door. Normally, it’s within a few days to a week. I had one issue with my water heater that took a long time, but that was an anomaly.
Good afternoon Sandra,
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with AHS. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.

AHS sent A/C & Appliance Sales Service to service our refrigerator claim at our rental property. My property manager took care of everything. From what I heard, the tech was on time and he tried to fix the refrigerator. We thought it was fixed, but then we didn’t know that it broke again for a couple more weeks afterward. We ended up calling A/C & Appliance again and they came out the next day. A/C & Appliance told us we had to replace the fridge. It took my property manager four hours on the phone to process the claim and he called me really upset.
Then finally I got an email from AHS saying they'll replace the fridge and everything else was smooth. I have it on order and now I'm just waiting for my claim to come through so I can get my refund. Other than that, the service was excellent. I recommend them. For the price and the quality, it’s pretty fair. If I’m not paying an arm and a leg, then I feel pretty comfortable keeping AHS.
Alexander,

My toilet was constantly running, and it was in my bedroom. It was irritating. Then, my sink in the kitchen was leaking as well underneath the bottom, and I had a bucket underneath there. I put the claim online, and it had the dropdown boxes. It was easy. It immediately popped up who was gonna come to take care of my stuff. And then the guy called me and set up a time. When he came in, he was quick and efficient. He handled it. Being a single person, I get sick and tired of calling people. I get referred from place to place, and they just don’t either follow through or they don’t come. I don’t like that. But I feel confident that American Home Shield have vetted these people, and that they’re going to show up and handle whatever that needs to be handled. Best investment ever.
Good afternoon Ardis,

American Home Shield had more stuff offered so I signed up with them in 2017, and I've had them since then. When I have a claim, I call them and sometimes I would do it online. They take care of it and their contractors have been great as well. Recently, I had a claim filed on a Sunday and they sent Total Garage Solutions on Monday morning. They responded really quickly and were very professional. I'm very happy with having the warranty.

I submitted a claim for my tankless water heater to American Home Shield and they sent Axiom Plumbing. Back then, the water heater had a bit of heat coming out of it. The contractor kept saying that American Home Shield wanted them to go fix stuff but they're not gonna fix my heater. It needs to be replaced. I shouldn't have to keep calling them because they say what they said and it's up to American Home Shield to go ahead and give them the green light to do the job. Axiom never came out and AHS' customer service is horrible.
It's been over five months since I've been trying to get American Home Shield to fix my issue, and they've been neglecting their responsibilities. They have different people answering the phone, but everybody answering the phone has a three-letter name and nobody is taking care of the issue. Also, there's always somebody of an Asian descent that you could barely understand. They're noisy, laughing and clowning. I kept calling American Home Shield, tell them what the situation is, and they hung up on me. I've been held on the phone 25 minutes at a time.
AHS keeps saying they're going to send somebody out. They then tried to use a contractor that wasn't certified to do the job and give them some reason why they can't do it. It's ridiculous that I spend money every month, pay for a service and for somebody to come out and five months later, I'm still without a hot water heater. I've had another experience with another company. They made a mistake and did a poor job not taking care of something one time, but they did try to make it right. American Home Shield hasn't reached out to me, hasn't tried to make anything right. They didn't value me as a customer. If they don't do anything, I will be looking forward to go and find me another company. I'm in business, and I have so many people I've actually turned on to AHS. I feel like as a valued customer and as person that has been working on their behalf for free, I feel like I deserve a hell of a lot more than that.
Frederick,
I apologize that your experience with us was not satisfactory. Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

D&D was the first contractor sent out for my electrical issue. Their rep said he fixed it yet nothing was fixed. He sent a report that the circuit was overloaded and it was gonna cost $4,200 but none of that was true. When I came out, he had to come back, just talking my head off trying to ring for stuff up and trying to upgrade everything. I was like, “What are you, crazy? It’s just my plug is loose. It’s a loose wire, " which even he had admitted. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent DMZ Property Services as a second opinion. Their rep was fantastic and professional. He traced to see where the plug was grounded. Evidently, there were some issues with some other plugs. He fixed them and made sure they're safe with no any kind of risk involved. But I hope American Home Shield takes the first person that was sent out and either talk to him or send him a letter saying he didn’t do the work.

When my garbage disposal wasn't working, I did a claim with AHS and everything was fine. It was disappointing that the first appointment was like four or five days later, but then, it was done in no time at all. The tech was very prompt, professional and courteous. And the only thing I was charged was the $75 fee for him to come out. I've also used American Home Shield before with my air conditioning, and their contractor offered to come out that day but I wasn't gonna be home so they came out the next day.

American Home Shield's services have been wonderful lately. We've been with them for two years and initially, the wait was longer and it was harder to get our points across. This year, the response has been great and the vendors have been awesome. When we spoke with one of their representatives to submit a claim for our washer, he was excellent. We called on a weekend and the contractor called us on Monday and scheduled something immediately. He came within 48 hours and explained what needed to be done. Altogether, we’ve had a very great experience with AHS.
Irma,
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

I've been with American Home Shield since the end of February of this year. I bought a place and my Realtor purchased the policy for the first year. So far, I've had excellent experience with the contractors that they've sent out. I was impressed with their professionalism, being on time, how they fixed the issue quickly, and they had the parts with them. They just did the job. With the plumbing issue I had, I submitted a claim online. That process is good, but if you have questions, it’s difficult to talk to somebody.
Also, before you can find an appointment time, you have to commit to paying the $75 service fee, which is a little hard because it’s a seasonal place. Sometimes I’m only here for short amount of time. If I can’t get an appointment, you have to take a chance. You have to make the service call and then check to see if you can get an appointment. So, it would be nice if you can’t get the appointment to be able to cancel the service fee. Furthermore, when I had questions about the service fee, I had a very hard time getting somebody on the phone to ask the question. Once I did, they were very helpful, but it took me a while to navigate the automated menu in the options. Nonetheless, I’m getting American Home Shield for my home.
I'm glad to know that we resolved your claim Karen. I will follow up with you to make sure that everything has been resolved. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience.

I have a double-drawer Fisher & Paykel dishwasher and the dishwasher wasn’t filling properly. It would wash and then it would leak water in it, at both the top and bottom, no matter which one I ran. Wright Appliance Service & Repair, contracted by AHS, changed the rotors which they thought that would fix it. It seemed like it lasted two weeks. We were on vacation. We came back and it was doing the same thing.
I called back, and the technician came and checked it out. He said he believed that the drain hose was clogged somehow. On the sink, there was an air gap. Normally, the dishwasher goes through that, then it goes into the disposal. He said his experience was that that sometimes caused problems. He then reconnected it directly back to the disposal instead of to the air gap, and that solved the problem. He got the parts that he needed to go ahead and correct the problem. And it’s one of the hoses he replaced, plus an adaptor. Now, it’s working great. It hasn’t leaked at all in a long time. He said he’s had the same experience at his home. We appreciate the service.

However, I hate that the tech had to come a long way as he came from Macon which is 150 miles from here. That is the only thing I wish was different. Other than that, it didn’t take him but a few minutes to find the problem and fix it. I was pleased.

My microwave kept running and its control panel fried up. I can’t always get a hold of a person when I call so I submitted the claim for it through AHS online and it was fast. Jones Family Appliance Repair was the assigned contractor and the tech was very nice. He kept calling me through the day and in the evening, and actually told me where he was and where I was on the list. And when I was the last one on the list, he told me he was on his way, but his job that he was at, took a little bit longer than what was expected, but I told him, “No problem.” I didn’t have any other plans and I was there. Then he showed up in clean clothes and walked in. He was very polite and professional.
He tried and plugged the microwave back, and then he took the control panel off and did some tests on it. He said, “It’s the panel.” He said he’ll have to try to see if he can find a part for it, but they can’t find a part because it’s that old. He found out that it was made in 2010, which is funny ‘cause I just got that thing, and it was about 2015 when they put it in. So now, while the tech did a great job, I’m having a problem trying to get the microwave replaced. The measurements were taken, but it’s really tight, and they said that’s the standard microwave. It’s been almost two weeks since the microwave fried up so I gotta call Home Shield back and get the one that they sent me ordered.

I went on to the website of American Home Shield because my washing machine sounds like a jet engine when it runs. There wasn’t a selection there for that that says sounds like a jet engine, so I put other. Then, my service request went through to Star Services as a contractor. They called me right away and scheduled with me. The first day, we had some trouble because I live in a gated community and you have to have a driver’s license or picture ID on you when you come to the gate. Their guy didn’t have that and he had lost it. So, he called and told me the problem, and they immediately sent another guy the next day.
The guy that came the next day was good. He looked at my washer and told me that we have to wait for the bearing that is rusting and going bad inside the washer to go bad before it will be fixable. He said that the jet engine sound is being caused by that bearing going bad, but there's no way to tell when it will physically stop working. So, they were not able to fix my problem. He also told me that the parts to pay outright would cost a couple of hundred dollars and another couple of hundred dollars for the labor. So, I just decided to live with it for now and wait it out. Other than that, my experience with AHS was pretty good.

The last vendor who came in wasn’t a licensed electrician. He was working under the license of another guy, the owner. He put in the wrong parts on my GE microwave over the top gas stove. I thought they were genuine parts, but they were some cheap parts. One of them has melted. The appliance went out again in six months. And then the GE guy came and looked at the parts. He showed me the parts and I came to know the parts were wrong parts. They were just the parts that you make the thing work for a while. It was good that, he said, the one didn’t blow up. That contractor from GE Appliance was very good. He had a license. He had the right tools and right genuine GE Appliance parts.
AHS should check these people and make sure that they are licensed, and whoever is coming out are qualified to do the work. This is a microwave. It has a big heating capacity and it can explode and cause a fire. But overall to deal with AHS is very good. They’re really nice people. I’ve been dealing with them for the last 18 years and there’s no problem with customer service. I can’t go to another company. I like them.

We bought the house and everything was fine. And then I started to notice that we had to turn the hot water level when we were taking showers more and more to get hot water. The water wasn’t hot anymore. It was lukewarm. I filed a claim, and I like the options of American Home Shield's website but some people don’t know what they have. So, maybe AHS can have some better description. There were so many options. There was a heater, there was a gas one and maybe there can be pictures next to the thing.
A tech from BMB Plumbing came out and said we need a new heater. It was to the max, and it was not working. I paid the $75, and then, it said, “Pending.” So, I’m waiting and waiting. I’m like "Isn’t someone supposed to call me?” So I checked the website, and it said, “Contact the vendor.” Aren’t they supposed to be doing that? So, now I know that I gotta contact the vendor. The vendor was very simple, professional and was in and out. He knew what he was doing and was clean. He had a nice and clean work van. He didn't come sloppy. Give AHS a shot because it’s well-worth the investment.

The contractor had to come out twice, once to look at the problem and once to repair it. He was very professional. Everything was good. But they should maybe be a little flexible with their schedules ‘cause they would only be in our area in the mornings. We travel during the day so we weren’t able to get in until the afternoon. The contractors came out the first time within a couple of days, and they didn't have one of the parts that I needed. They had to order it, so they put a part on there that was to get me by so I could at least use the dryer. When the part came in, they came and put the right one on. Then, I was still having problems so I had to call them for a recall. They came back out and took care of that. Apparently, I had multiple issues that went on all at one time and it was causing the dryer to not function properly. So, they have actually been out three times with the dryer but they’ve been communicating great. Now, things have been going much better since the repair and I can dry my clothes.

We are in the middle of two issues that have yet to be resolved. One is a clog in our bathroom sinks that was closed but not resolved last October. The issue started again and AHS is saying we need to pay another service fee for a problem that was not fixed. The second issue is a leaking kitchen sink and bathroom shower. Pipedown Services out of Dallas was dispatched. They couldn't get the shower handle off and didn't have parts to repair sink. They said they would order a comparable sink and come back to fix both.
A month and a half later they showed back up with a sink that didn't match. My wife was able to find a comparable sink in five minutes on Google. When she asked them what they were going to do about the shower they said they weren't going to do anything. AHS offered us $250 for each issue to resolve ourselves. This is unacceptable. It will cost more in supplies to fix the issues. AHS consistently uses subcontractors that aren't able or willing to fix problems. This is why we pay for coverage; to fix issues. I'm not the professional. AHS and the subcontractors they use SHOULD be. If not then what are we paying for? FRAUD!!!!! MISREPRESENTING SERVICES!!!

I signed up with AHS about 6 months ago. I have a free standing ice maker (small and sits in kitchen). The ice maker quit making ice so I thought no problem, I have a home warranty (that specifically states "free-standing ice makers" are covered). Well a tech comes out and deems it's technically a commercial unit and he can't touch it (literally does not even look at it). AHS already removed $100 service fee from my account so I had to call 4 times to get someone to acknowledge that this repair order is not complete. AHS finally had another tech come out and diagnose it.
I get a call a week later stating that they know what the problem is, however, they don't cover commercial units. How is a customer of AHS supposed to know what a commercial ice maker is vs a residential ice maker? After researching, I found out that nearly all free-standing ice makers are commercial. Why would AHS advertise that they cover free-standing ice makers? They took my $100 and denied my claim. I have heard that home warranty companies are a rip off, now I can verify first hand.

A renter at the rental place called because the lock was not working and I called American Home Shield. We got fast service and the contractor was there within a couple of days but my rental lady told me that they charged her 60 bucks. So, I told her to give me a copy of the bill and she said that she didn't ask them. The contractor should issue one when they're doing a job and what they're charging you for parts. I also have to pay for the lock. The tenant also had a sink problem in the past and it took too long as well as my fridge problem. They put a new one in but I want the service right. If you want something, the contractor should come right away and professional people should do right. I'm paying for insurance $500 per year then a visiting charge of $75. It's a lot of money.
I had a big issue with the plumbing on my apartment and I was unhappy. The water was not coming from the faucet and the contractor came a couple of times. They changed the pipes and then, they said it wasn’t working. They’re playing a game with us and we pay each time they visit. They finally put a new faucet but it’s still not working. It was a cheap one and I called the company. They said it was their budget and they had to put that kind. That wasn’t the right thing so I felt uncomfortable. My contract would be expiring and I don’t want to renew with AHS because when I called a couple of times, the guy who came to service was unprofessional.

We had a plumbing issue. American Home Shield sent someone and I was unhappy with him. The person sucked, and he was like a scam artist, and took advantage of my wife. They came out and they said, “Oh, we have to charge you for taking off this grate to see what’s wrong with it. That’s not included in the $75.” And my wife said, “Okay, sure.” It took them like 15 minutes. They charge her $300 on top of that. And then they tried to give her a quote and said, “Oh, you need to fix this, and this.” It was like a $7,000 quote. They were a total rip-off. AHS should never use them again. They were a bunch of rip-off artists. We never told AHS about it, but I would highly recommend AHS dropping them.
Some of the people that AHS sent have been good though. As far as submitting claims, we had a problem with them before, but it’s gone a lot better. We just submit the file or do it online. My wife submitted a claim online, and they just called us and set the appointment. They keep calling me though. I always tell them to call her. My aunt speaks so highly of American Home Shield, and when I moved in to my house in January, I applied for it. Having it now for almost a year, I’ve got the renewal budgeted in. For a $100 deductible to get somebody to come over here, I have peace of mind and I can drink my water. I had a severe back up and filed a claim, and it worked out beautifully. My bathroom was clogged up and their contractor helped me get that clog out. He said everything is working great. I was very thankful.

My central air conditioning went out in my home so I submitted a claim to AHS. The contractors that AHS sent were very professional and punctual. But overall, I think not reading the small print kinda impacted me ‘cause the representative led me to believe that all I had to pay was my $100 deductible and everything would be covered. But then once HVAC came out, they were like they don’t cover everything. And so, I had to get a loan on my house ‘cause I had to come up with money and that was very unexpected. So, that part, I was not pleased with. Just like when I wanted to have my pool equipment, they were, “Oh, yeah." And the light went out of my pool. Come to find out, they don’t cover anything underground, only above ground. There were a lot of misconceptions and the representative at that time should verbally let us know that. But as far as they do handle things in a timely manner, that part was great.
Good morning Patricia,
Your feedback is more than appreciated and I am glad that American Home Shield was able to complete both repair sin a timely manner.

The light kept going out in the bathroom. It didn’t light and when we put new bulbs in, it still wouldn’t light. I submitted a claim to AHS over the phone and Light It Up Electric came out the next day, and fixed the problem. I had another problem with a spotlight in the ceiling and that was just bad bulbs that we had been trying to put in. But he corrected that and corrected the other thing. I knew it was a bad bulb, but we couldn’t figure out how to get under the kitchen light. He showed us how to get there and everything was great. The tech was great. It has been a fine experience, except that their price keeps going up.

All American Cooling was excellent and they came quick. They fixed the issue immediately, and the tech was super nice and professional. I would use them again. I spoke to them at 10:00 in the morning, and they were at my house before 2:00. They were good. I've been with American Home Shield for 10 years, but I got thrown out for like a year because I had some big claim. I’m not as happy as I used to be. They’ve set limits on fixing items and a lot of their vendors stink. They’ve had some horrible vendors. The guys who fixed my washing machine left me without a washing machine for two months. Then, they broke it when they fixed it and had to order another piece, so I had to wait two more weeks. And then, he left and didn’t turn the gas on, and I had to call O&R. It was horrible.

There was a wiring and something else that was loose in our AC. AHS sent Bellair Heating and Air but they didn’t wanna fix it. They claimed that there was hole in the roof and that was what caused the issue. And then, AHS sent out Texas Best Heating & Air and they fixed it. That claim went perfectly. I asked if there was a hole in the roof and they said no. And I didn’t think so too because I have a new roof and it hadn’t even been a year old. Bellair Heating and Air just didn’t wanna do it. AHS should not be using them. But with Texas Best Heating & Air, I had amazing interactions with them. I have multiple properties that I would want to have them come to each time.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield on my AC unit was fine. Prior to that, a guy came out and said there was nothing wrong. My son ended up coming here from Maryland so he could be here when they came out, and they said it was a contact switch. And as soon as the other guy looked at it, he automatically said that was what it was. He didn’t have to say there was nothing wrong.
American Home Shield increased my payment. They did not notify me until it was time for them to do it, and it went up almost a $100. And when I called and asked about it, they said, “Oh, when you came in, it was a special.” They didn’t tell me that, and after the first year, it goes up. I was at $59, and then it went up to 79.99 a month. And that’s when I dropped it. They’re overprice than other companies. I called ConsumerAffairs and they gave me a list of other companies, and I went with another company and there was almost a $30 difference in the monthly fee.

We submitted a claim for the water heater and everything was handled appropriately and efficiently. We did it on a Friday and then AHS' contractor came out on Sunday. The guy did a temporary fix until they could come out and install the new water heater. It was all done within about four days. The guy was very good and everything is working perfectly now. In my 12 years of being an AHS customer, this was the best experience I've had. Prior to that, I’ve never been happy with them. All my issues had been with the AC units of the last two years, and I feel like they were doing everything they could to avoid replacing it and spending money. They were just patching it. We ended up getting a new unit financed, and then AHS gave us the money for what they covered, which ended up being a few hundred dollars.

Usually, when I call in, the vendor will typically not come out in a timely fashion or on a weekend. This summer, when it was 105 degrees, I couldn’t get an AC guy out here for days. Then they came out, saw what was wrong and had to order the part. That part had to be okayed by American Home Shield. And then, whether they shipped the part or the vendor acquired it, we had gone another week. The ability not to have typical quicker service is the biggest negative that’s turning me off.
What really bothered me this summer was on the AC repair. I have a Trane high-efficiency unit that was very expensive. Between American Home Shield and the vendor, they allowed the part that was shipped to be a non-manufacturer's part. Therefore, the part they put in was much cheaper and it wasn’t efficient anymore. It voided the efficiency of the unit. It cost more and it was louder than hell when I had a complete quiet system. They fought me on that. I told them I thought they were gonna fix this to the specs but then they were deviating from the actual specs of the unit, and I had a real problem with that. They said that was the way it was and they had that right.
They got a bigger problem because what they were doing was they would not fix the unit in accordance with new guidelines that were coming out. The type of coolant that is being used in the older systems will be disallowed this next year, 2020 so if there's going to be a repair done, they’re gonna have to put in a new whole system and that’s gonna be expensive. I don’t know how they're gonna respond to that. That’s what worries me.
For two years I've been with AHS, the biggest problem is I pay the $75 upfront but then they start billing me after the work is completed for the same 75 I've already paid. That happens time after time and I have to write I've already paid and I still keep getting the notices. And so, I'll call in and they say I don't worry about the notices and that they see that I've already paid. It's a pain in the neck.
I think American Home Shield tried to do the best they could though. Our heating system quit working so we had to have a new control board so that we could have heat again, and that’s gas heat. The contractor that came out this time was much better than the previous ones. They had an opening in their schedule, so they were able to come on Saturday, which was wonderful. The contractor was very knowledgeable and it was a much better company that AHS had a deal with. I would highly recommend this contractor. Everything is going fine now. The previous ones who came sometimes didn’t have any experience in trying to fix the items and they didn’t know what to do. We’d have to call another contractor. This happened with our refrigerator claim.

Advanced Heating was fantastic. Everything went great with my claim. My main boiler line was vibrating. As it turned out, the regulator failed so the pressure was dropping. The pressure has dropped in the lines where it’s vibrating crazily. The guy who came out was really great. He diagnosed it right away. He put it back and tighten up all the straps that the line had caused to break loose a little bit. I hired him on my own to come back and work another problem for me. Advanced Heating is highly recommended. From now on, I’ll ask AHS for them.

I had water coming out of the furnace of my HVAC unit and it was flooding under my wooden floors and I didn’t like that. I wanted it fixed right away. I called in to American Home Shield, and the first people that they suggested couldn’t get to me for three weeks. And I said to them, “Water is under my floor. I don’t wanna lose my floor, so I need someone sooner.” So I asked them to suggest another company, which they did. I was pleased that they did, because the contractors were excellent. They were right on time, professional and very courteous. I really was pleased. The coils on the air-conditioning were very dirty so the water couldn't go in the right channel. It was going into the pan at the very bottom and overflowed to the floor, and they cleaned them.
But I was without air-conditioning for a couple of days. I have a small puppy, and he and I were uncomfortable. But that’s okay. It wasn’t that bad. I just wish that American Home could get the contractor out sooner. But I’m sure that they have so many people that’s why they can’t get out sooner. So they replaced that one with a new one and it's working now. In the beginning, there were some issues in reporting the problem to AHS to get their approval. The claim stayed with no progress for a couple of days just because the tech didn't send AHS the explanation about the diagnosis. Also, I wasn't sure why he didn't get the approval when he was in my house, so he can’t fix it. I stayed without a heating system for maybe four days. And then I have to call many times. But I was able to expedite that through American Home Shield.
American Home Shield was recommended by my real estate agent. My interactions with them depends on the representative who picks my call. Some are really helpful and others are not. But the very next day, the water machine wasn't working. I called the contractor back and they came back out. They fixed the water machine as well because that part was working before they did the work on it. Everything is fine.
In Campbellsville, as far as the refrigerator, washer, and dryer, it's good. But if my air conditioner messed up, American Home Shield can't even get me an appointment for that. They don't have a whole lot of in-service people that can come out. For refrigerator, plumbing, or that type of stuff, American Home Shield has to give you an authorization because they just don't have the person to service this area where I live in. Right now, I'm still waiting on a check that I haven't received back yet from them for my authorization. It's been over three weeks.

The furnace didn’t kick on last year and the company assigned through American Home Shield came out. It was a happy experience. The contractor wrote on the little ticket and said if anyone had to come back out, the combo limit switch would need to be replaced. It worked for a year and this year when I go turn it on, it did not turn on. All Comfort Specialist still looked at it and didn't just take somebody's word for it. They were totally prepared for the job, which was awesome. They went ahead and diagnosed the same sad situation, but because the last company was so nice, they made sure it was the combo limit switch.
All Comfort also actually called to come a day early, which was something I’ve never experienced in the AC service industry. They had an opening to squeeze me in, but I was not where that I could be squeezed in. We had scheduled a time for them to come, which was awesome. The realtor told me to call AHS' customer service number to set up an appointment and it was $75. The reps dealt with my claim well and they sent Indoor Comfort Experts to do service. The tech from Indoor Comfort who was sent was a very nice employee worked on the AC as well as some issue in the attic.
The rep whom I spoke with on the phone was nice enough to inform me that there are certain loopholes where AHS can get out of paying for an entire repair. If the claimant is an elderly person and doesn't know any better, that person would feel like they got screwed. Still, if they're sharp individuals, such people should know how to call and explain what they want and what needs to get done. Also, if I don't put everything in one work order, I have to pay an additional fee per item. So, if AHS is asking me what's wrong with my electricity and I'm not an electrician, how can I answer that question? I'm in the business and I can't even talk electrical chitty-chat. So, I phrased my approach in a manner where I haven't gotten caught like that.

The seal on the refrigerator had come loose and it was kind of dangling. American Home Shield sent out Greenway, and their guy did a really easy fix. There's a slot that it fits into. My husband and I felt really stupid after he showed us that, because we could've done it. But the guy was very helpful and he fixed it. He said that if there was any more problem with it, he would come back and maybe put a new one on. But it really doesn't look like it needs a new one.
We had Greenway out several times, and there have been some issues with them as far as showing up when they said they were going to. One time, they said they were coming so I waited here all day, but they didn't show up. The technician called me and said that I wasn't even on his list. Another time, they called the former owners instead of us.
We moved in to a 22-year old house, and it had a lot of things wrong with it that we didn't know until we got in here in March. We've called American Home Shield several times for plumbing issues, and there have been times that I was really frustrated. For instance, when we had a leak in the master bathroom, there's a tub and there's the faucet, and their contractor couldn't decide what it was. They said they had to order a new part, but when they came out two weeks later, it was the wrong part. Another two weeks, they ordered another one. So it was about a month to five weeks.
The other thing that really annoyed me was when I went online to see the status of our job, and it showed it was resolved, when it wasn't. We called someone and spoke to just a secretary who really couldn't help us. She assured us that it was okay, and that it wasn't resolved, but it bothered me that it said resolved when it was not. But these last few times that I've called American Home Shield, they've come through and it has been okay.

He was running late, but they called me and told me he was running late. So, at least I was aware of what’s going on. He got the problem fixed in about a little longer than five minutes. He was friendly and courteous. I was very happy with the experience. The appliance guy that came out was also very friendly. He tried to figure out what the problem was, and I’m very happy with the service.
I have submitted claims online as well as done it by phone. Sometimes doing it online is easier because you can do it at odd hours. It’s nice because it’s convenient that it’s available online, but I can handle it by phone too. Sometimes the window that I’m given for the appointment is a little large. Instead of four hours or half a day, I wish it was down to within two hours so that I could better plan the day. But overall, American Home Shield is a good service. Some of us get older and some of these things we used to do before ourselves, we’re not physically capable of doing anymore. It’s nice to know that I can call somebody and get it taken care of.

My LG refrigerator stopped working so I contacted American Home Shield to get service ‘cause I have a warranty with them. I filed the claim through their website and it was very straightforward. I got an email from them within a couple of hours saying that they had assigned Austin Appliance to come out and take a look at it, and that they would be out within 24 hours.
The service I got from Austin Appliance was good, but he couldn’t complete the service. He had to go back to American Home Shield to tell them that he didn’t do compressor work, which is what the problem was with the refrigerator. So, he was there at my house for about five minutes then he said, “Yeah, I can't fix this. I'm gonna go back to American Home Shield and they're gonna assign you another technician.” It was a very sordid story.
Within two days, the second technician from Suffolk Appliance came out to look at the refrigerator, and this part of the process was very smooth. He said, “Yeah, the compressor is out. We need to go back to American Home Shield to get authorization to proceed with the compressor.” And because the compressor was under warranty with LG, they said that LG would have to provide the compressor, but the labor wasn’t covered. Then when he left the house, he told me, “I am gonna recommend to American Home Shield that you get your refrigerator replaced because the cost of doing the compressor work is about equal to the cost of the seven-year old refrigerator.”
I then heard nothing back for about a week ‘til I contacted American Home Shield and asked them what was going on. They said that Suffolk Appliance recommended that LG do the work. I asked them if they were gonna do the work but they said that I would have to contact LG. So, I contacted LG and LG said that the compressor is covered but the labor is not. I asked if I had to pay for it or if I could have my warranty pay for it, and they said that I had to contact American Home Shield.
I contacted American Home Shield and they said that they would cover the labor and to have LG send them an authorization letter to do the labor. I called LG back and LG said something mind-boggling, “Okay, you have to provide us with the name of the technician, their mailing address, their phone number, their email address, and the name of the technician that’s gonna do the work so that we can send a letter, paper letter, to the service provider to have them do the work.”
I had been going back and forth between American Home Shield and LG for the last couple of three days trying to find out who the service provider is that will do the work. I just got that information this morning but I now have to contact the service provider to ask them to give me their mailing address, etcetera, so that I can provide that to LG. And they were supposed to call me back this afternoon. So, three weeks down the road, I still don’t have a fixed refrigerator.

The dishwasher's top panel had fallen out. I called AHS and gave them my number, then they said they'd get back to me. They sent me an email that said that Angel Appliance had been assigned, then Angel Appliance called and made an appointment with me. They showed up when they were supposed to and the guy who showed up was very nice and very polite. The dishwasher's working fine now, too. This is the second time I’ve used AHS and the first time was when I thought my garbage disposal was going out. But the guy that came over said that it wasn’t leaking. All in all, AHS has satisfied customers and the contractors they send out do their job.

I've had difficulty submitting a claim with American Home Shield. When I call in, their call center is in the Philippines, and I have a very difficult time understanding the people and getting called back from them. They refuse to escalate, and I cannot get to an American call center. To get anywhere with a regular customer service people is impossible and even when I get to the customer service people, it's still ridiculous. I called the local sales rep who then escalated everything and got to an American person, and then everything went smoothly from there.
My air conditioning was leaking through the ceiling through a light fixture. California Cooling was the fifth company that came out because we couldn't seem to get any of the companies to follow up. They looked at it and told me what was wrong with it, and then they couldn't get anybody to come back and do the repair. This has been going on for six months. Other than the air conditioning and the people not coming back, for the most part, the contractors sent by AHS and the repairs have been good. The appliances have been replaced, so everything else has really gone well.

They sent me an email that says I would be contacted in the next couple of days, and I got contacted and the schedule for when the tech was gonna come out was set. Even up to the day, they were saying, “Oh, he's coming out at a certain time.” So, they kept me updated. Then, I talked to the contractor who came out on the phone and he was responsive, knowledgeable, and professional.

So far, I'm pleased with American Home. Their claims process is very easy. It's very streamlined. The dryer wasn’t heating up recently and the gentleman that AHS sent out was great. He told me what I could do to prevent that from happening in the future, which was helpful. He showed me how to open up, like some kind of reservoir in my dryer, and to vacuum it out to keep the heating element from burning out. He did his work quickly and efficiently. It was a good experience, overall.
I've been with AHS for six years and so far, I've only had one not-so-good experience, but that has been some time ago. I had a leak in my bathtub and I knew that it was just the issue with the drain that needed to be resealed. And the plumber that AHS sent over was telling me that he had to tear up my wall to figure out what the problem is. I said, “No, you don’t have to do all that. This is what's wrong with that. I need you to do that.” He refused to do it. I called AHS about it and he called them too, and they sided with him because they said he was the expert in the matter. So, I went to Home Depot, fixed it myself, and then wrote complaint letters to both the plumbing company that they sent out and to AHS. The plumbing company reimbursed me my money, but I never heard back from American Home Shield. So, I was upset about that portion of it, but it was made right.

I had a pool heater failure so I went online to file a claim. As a person that's used to the AHS website, the website is much easier because most of the time, there's a communication problem between the attendant answering the phone and myself. So, by typing it, they don’t ask or try to understand, they don’t ask any extra questions, and then when they tell me my ticket is assigned, I usually call the service people and then tell them the manufacturer name of the part, so they know exactly what they're doing. An appointment was made with Tampa Bay Pool and Spa. We scheduled a time that was convenient to both of us. The gentleman who came out was exceptional, personable and knowledgeable. He repaired the pool heater. I ran it through its cycles and it works. The performance since his repairs was excellent.

AHS is the worst home warranty company. DO Not waste your money. We called in to report a claim on our aunt's Air Conditioning unit. The contractor they sent out Artic Air, was just as dishonest as the American Home Shield. Artic Air said that the charge would be $1630.00 but that the home warranty would not cover any of it. The person from Artic Air was rude on top of that. Called American Home Shield and was told that the contractor was wrong and that there was coverage in the amount of $775.00.
We were also told that there is a cash out in the policy and that we could have someone else fix it and get the covered amount ($775.00) back. We had a contractor fix the problem for $1325.00 and called American Home Shield back to find out how to proceed with the cash out. It has been a month and we are now getting the run around. We were handling this for our aunt who got sick and now has passed away. American Home Shield is now saying that the cash amount is $366.00 and not $775.00. All of this to say, do not waste your money on this dishonest company. They will not even return our phone calls now.

I am a new homeowner and a pipe burst in my house this morning. I was able to isolate the leak and I called a top-reviewed plumbing service and AHS within 10 minutes of each other. The plumbing service was able to see me almost immediately, and while on the phone with AHS I said that I had a technician en-route. The AHS rep then said that because I had called a plumber on my own, there was no way to work with AHS at that point. I asked if I could cancel the plumber and instead work through AHS but I was not given a clear response even though I asked the question multiple times. She kept saying "we have a process, sir, and you did not follow it".
I asked if I could get authorized to use my own plumber and she was again ambiguous and referenced a 4 hour wait time just to find out if I could be authorized. At that point (about 15 mins of talking in circles) the technician I had hired arrived and I had to leave the call to actually get some solution started. After I got the plumber oriented with the problem, I called AHS back, hoping that the customer service rep I talked to was just one bad apple. I talked to another rep for about 30 seconds at which point I was put on hold for 27 minutes at which point they dropped my call.
So, I called back. At this point, the techs I hired had found the leaking section and needed to cut away part of the wall to get to the pipe. I put their work on hold while I tried to figure things out with AHS. The new rep I talked to said my only option at this point was to pay AHS $75 and wait 4 hours, at which an "emergency technician" MAY be available, and if they weren't available at that point, THEN I could use the company that was currently fixing my issue. But if they were available, I would then have to wait for them to come out and evaluate the situation.
The AHS rep didn't seem to realize that the only reason I was in this situation is because (1) AHS could not initially answer my basic questions in a timely manner or afford me the option of canceling the plumber and moving on with them, and (2) kept me on a 27 minute hold (when there were definitely service reps available - every other time my calls were answered immediately, I think they legitimately forgot or didn't care about my call), which made my only viable option to be moving forward with the plumbers who were able to fix my emergent issue in a timely fashion.
To add more validation, the plumbers heard me on the phone and asked who my home warranty company was. When I told them it was American Home Shield, they both grimaced and told me that out of all the companies they dealt with, AHS was by far the worst. To be fair, if I had called AHS first, this whole situation would have probably been a lot simpler, but I highly doubt that my pipe would be fixed today. I am disappointed that they were unable to work with me with the situation I was in, given that I would follow their process better in the future. However, I was disgusted that they were unable to give me a clear path forward working WITHIN their process in time to actually cancel my service with the technician I had hired and work through them.
Absolutely terrible service, terrible communication, terrible customer service reps, and much lower quality of service and confidence in the job getting done in a timely manner trying to work through AHS as opposed to working through a plumbing service directly. I am hesitant to work through them at all in the future as they have proven incapable of communicating effectively, even for "emergency" situations. I am currently investigating if it is possible to cancel services with them and move to a different home warranty company. My recommendation would be to stay away, find a higher rated company, there are tons of them out there - a quick google search will show you that AHS is not the way to go.
Good afternoon Micah,

I had a leak in my toilet and contacted AHS for the very first time and I had the worst customer service experience!! When the rep could not answer my concerns I would ask for a supervisor and they would say to hold then after waiting for about 15 minutes each time I would get disconnected. This happened to me several times. I finally after the fourth try I was connected to a supervisor and let her know my concern and she said she had to review my case and would call me within 48 hours and I never got a call back!!
I called and tried to get reimbursed because I paid for my toilet out of pocket and I requested my $75 deposit and have not received it!! But they certainly can contact me to pay for my monthly payment. I told the rep to give me my $75 back and I would sign up again. Never heard back either!! They ended up fixing the dryer and they replaced the washer. The refrigerator door wasn’t closing and it still did not close the way it should. There was leaking water. American Home Shield sent out another technician, Sears. They disregarded everything that Universal told them.
The contractor could have given me a better deal on the washer. I just had to take whatever they give me and I don’t think that’s right. The washer that I got has very bad reviews on it. I told the representatives about it but they said that’s the only one that they got that they offered me. If I wanna buy another one, I could and then give them the receipt, and then they’ll reimburse me $700. So, I’m like, “You got another on there, just get me another washer.” I didn’t like that part. My fridge died, and I called AHS immediately. Ten days later, I had spent more than $100 in ice to live out of coolers, and my fridge was still broken. By then, two separate contractors had come out and recommended replacement, but AHS insisted on more testing to diagnose the exact location of the leak. This would have taken an additional one to two weeks, which meant we would have been without a working fridge for weeks. I have two young children and no backup fridge -- this was out of the question for us.
I bought a new fridge, hoping AHS would reimburse me. They have not. When I call and ask for a manager, the rep tells me time and time again that a manager will call me back, but no one ever does. If I ask to stay on hold until a manager becomes available, I wait and wait, and eventually am told the manager will call me back. I have emailed the claims department twice, and have never received a response. AHS is a scam. I paid for the service for three years in the event that a major appliance -- like my fridge -- went out. Now that it has, it's clear to me that AHS will not stand by its promises.
Good Morning Debbie,

I've had some work done on my HVAC unit over the summer due to a leak, and it turned out that someone had turned off the gas. It was as simple as turning the gas back on and one would think that during a heating inspection, they would check that. However, Starlight HVAC, the first team that came out, did a crappy job and so they're not my friend. I was told that my heater worked but 2 weeks later, it wouldn't heat even though it would come on. It resulted in me having to call American Home Shield for the second time so a guy from Metropolitan Heating and Air Conditioning came out and he fixed it. So, the whole experience was not a good because I had to miss work twice, and it turned out that the problem was very simple.
When I submit claims, it can take 10 to 15 minutes to get to a live agent so it's difficult sometimes. The second time I had to call for the heater, I had a terrible time getting a hold of someone. One of the agents actually just hung up on me after I've been on hold for about 7 or 8 minutes. Then, it took me calling back 4 times to get a supervisor and it took 45 minutes to get supervisor on the phone. That was a very bad experience but the supervisor said that she reversed the $75 inspection charge.
I've had American Home Shield for about 5 years now, and I'm happy with them overall. I've had them send someone out and fix my geriatric dryer a couple times. The dryer is on its last leg and if I let go, sometimes, it doesn't shut off by itself. And if I'm falling to sleep, it will run all night and burn itself out. I also had my geriatric dishwasher fixed. It doesn't look great but it works now. The biggest thing I've ever had them do is that when my AC went out, they came and put a new unit in, and it has worked great.

I had a plumbing issue on a rental property. The tenant called and said that they had an odor in the house, which smelled like a wet odor. It must have been a leak that has been going on for a while that they didn't know about. He said they pulled the things out of the closet and the floor was damp. I told them to open the access door and see if something was leaking behind the bathtub. He said there was a leak there somewhere, but he didn't know where it was coming from. I put in a claim to American Home Shield that night, on a Sunday, and I said that it was causing secondary damage because the floor was damp. They assigned Greenway Home Services. When I called them the next day, they said, "We're scheduled to go out tomorrow." I said, "It's causing some damage to the house, so if you could, can you go out today?" They said that I'd have to call AHS, which I did and AHS responded, and they sent someone out that day.
Back in February, the tenant had a leaking spout on the bathtub and I had Faucet Doctors Plumbing go out, and the tech repaired that. What the Greenway tech found when he got there was the spout began to leak again. He said something about the drain being compromised so he had to replace the drain, something on the bottom of the tub. He explained to me that the water was coming from the spout in the bathtub. Even though the drain was leaking, the spout on the bathtub was still leaking. He said that I had to call AHS and put in another claim. He didn't wanna include that part in their claim.
I didn't understand if that was part of the problem that was being caused. But because the water was coming from that, then that should have been a part of the call too. There was a leak so there was something under the tub that was compromised that made the water go not in the drain, but on the ground, under the house. To me, all of that was part of the problem that needed to be corrected. I don't know if the tech fixed it, but when they ended up leaving the house, my tenant said that the spout wasn't leaking anymore
I can understand that when I call AHS, I have to give their contractors time to come out. But if it's an emergency, my tenant for example who has prostate cancer, if something happens in that house, I have to put that on the front burner and not delay it because he has home healthcare people come out. As long as AHS understand that when I'm in a situation like that, it has to be expedited, in terms of when the heat goes out or air goes out because it can't be a two or three-day thing with somebody like that. Other than that, I try to improvise like buy a heater until the contractors get here. My tenants have been in the houses for years, so they don't move. They know me in terms of what I'll do.
Overall, we were very satisfied with Greenway. They were really responsive. The tech guy talked to me on the phone about the problem, and then he called me and told me what was going on. Not that I understand everything because I'm not there, but I had an idea. And they were very receptive. The tech also took a supervisor out because they had to go back because he didn't have certain parts. And everything came together. I don't know why it stopped leaking all of a sudden. They did fix the tub part and I don't know what happened with the spout part. I'm very satisfied with AHS's service. On a lot of rental properties I had with them, they never gave me a problem with anything.

They contact me and I contact them ‘cause they usually can't reach me the first time. We make an appointment and they come out on the appointed time. They do the job and leave. They're very polite and well-mannered. They tell me what’s going on. I've asked them questions about the R22 being faded out and what are the things to do. They spoke about it and told me how to go through Home Shield and get the new air conditioner put in in the next year or two. I called Home Shield a couple of times for something that broke down. It was immediately taken care of and I paid what I was supposed to pay. The contractor came out and did the job. I didn’t have to wait.

My condenser went out. And my fan, it would kick on, but wouldn’t start spinning just ‘cause there wasn’t enough power because of the condenser. Climate Express diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes, and they were out of here in 10 minutes. They replaced it and it was great. When I had a plumbing issue not too long ago, I thought a clogged up sink meant a clogged up sink, but apparently, if it was grease, that didn’t count. They didn’t cover that section of it. But otherwise, I’ve had a good experience with American Home Shield whom I've been with for two years now. It's been pretty easy to file a claim as well.

I had never lived with a heat pump before, and the thing shut off one morning. There was a loud disconnect sound. American Home Shield's contractor came here and he was really nice. He checked everything out and gave me an education of what was going on. Heat pumps actually had defrost modes. And while they're running, they reverse the refrigerant to check to see if they're icing up. Not only did I get education, but it was a relief because this thing had gotten cold enough to where it starts doing the self-diagnostic stuff.
I also had a guy out here for the refrigerator. It had been making noise since I moved in to the place in April, but I kept putting off filing a claim because I didn't want the hassle. But I was surprised how easy that process went. I just called up and told the lady the problems I was having. The tech came out and it turned out to be the ice maker. Once it freezes the ice, it heats the tray, and then it’s got a little knocker in there that loosens the ice from the tray so it’ll dump. The tech said the heating part of it was going out, and it got to where it knocks. It got stuck doing that, just over and over, and you can hear it all through the house.
There was a couple of other noises but the strange thing is, when the guy came out, the fridge quit making the noise. He said he couldn’t fix it if he can’t hear what it’s doing. And the fridge hasn’t made the noise since he has been here. They're now ordering the ice maker for it, and they said they would get back to me in 5 to 10 days. So, I’m a happy camper.

The guys who came out were really professional. They were here wherever in the window and it was a good experience. They were in and out fairly quickly, fixed the unit, and it was pretty painless. They came out when promised and took care of the issue, and I haven't had any issue since. That's all I can ask for. I just did another claim this morning for my refrigerator. So it went through, I got a notification back that they've assigned someone to it on a certain date and they'll be out there between that time. So far, it's been good.

I have two homes that are covered under American Home Shield. It started back in 2004 and I liked their consistency of delivering qualified service people. I have passed AHS' name on. I'm on the road all the time so I always have my laptop with me. I do my claims that way. Action Appliance was a contractor AHS sent me and I thought they were very good. They were very responsive and they knew what the issue was right away. I knew there was gonna be a part to get ordered and as soon as that part came in, Action Appliance called me, came right in and put the part in. Everything worked fine after that.
The only thing is with my home in Arizona that has a pool and a complex cleaning system. When I need service on the pool equipment, I would call AHS to make sure that it's covered and they would tell me it is. But when a service guy goes out there, he tells me it's not covered because it's part of the in-floor system. That happened two or three times and it's usually on the in-floor cleaning system. The in-floor cleaning system is controlled from the pump and the filter system. There are in-floor cleaners that pop up and push all the debris towards the drain. They won't go in and do the in-floor system, which I understand because it would take somebody going under basically in a snorkelling outfit, but the outside of it is a gearbox mechanism that controls the flow of the water. That broke twice.

When my dryer had stopped working, American Home Shield sent Anchor Appliance Electric Repair and they were great. But I keep telling American Home Shield not to have Passion Services Pro come out again ever! They’ve sent out the company several times, and they’re a rip-off. Even their employees are telling me the bad stuff they’re doing. And even former employees that I’ve had out here before to fix something has told me the bad stuff that they do. I keep trying to get that across to American Home Shield. And I don’t know if they just use them to save money.
Every single time the owner of Passion comes out, he says, ”Age and overuse” or “Age and overloaded.” He doesn’t even know how old it is. They had to come out for both my washer and my dryer. One was two years old, and one was less than a year old. And he kept trying to say, “Age.” When I said, “No, I have proof of that” then he would make up some story on the washer that I overloaded it. I said it was corroded. I see the corroded parts. And he said that it was my doing. He blamed it on me, so it couldn’t be fixed. So I had to dispute this with American Home Shield. They were very nice and they sent out Anchor. The man who came out knew the problem right away. He took it completely apart. He knew how to open that and he took it apart. Passion didn’t even take it apart. They just looked in it.
Anchor said, “Nope. The drum needs to be replaced. This is what’s needed to be done.” If they order the parts, it can be fixed. My claim before was gonna be denied because the Passion guy said it was my fault and it couldn’t be fixed. He said it wasn’t corroded and it was from overstuffing it, which wasn’t true. And then AHS sent the same company out for my dryer. Passion did not bring any tools in. They did not bring any diagnostics in. They said, “What’s wrong with it?” I told them it just stopped working and it won’t turn on. They said it was this switch. I asked what if it was not that switch because I knew the guy didn’t have any testing tools. He didn’t test it at all. He said, “We’re gonna order both of these switches.”
It took a while for them to come out. They came out the second time and put in both switches. But it wasn’t those two switches. So I had to wait even longer. I had to wait like two more weeks for that switch. They came in for another switch, and it wasn’t that! Then they said it’s the circuit board and I had to order that. It took a long time to get that in, and when they showed up, “Oh, this is the wrong part. This is just the cover. We have to order another one. Something’s wrong here.” But come to find out, ours didn’t even have a circuit board like what they were thinking it was. There was never one time that the company ever used a diagnostic tool on this.
I was without a dryer from the middle of August. They sent somebody out August 16th. And I did not get my dryer fixed by a different company until at the beginning of October. And what the man did was came in, used his tester, and figured out it was just a fuse. That’s all it was. It was a simple, little cheap, couple-dollar fuse that had to be changed at the very beginning, and my dryer would have been fine. But when he put the fuse in, what happened was the other company installed the switches wrong, and it hinged it off, and so it caught fire. He said the wiring harness caught on fire and melted. I like American Home Shield. They do a good job. They come through. But I have to be persistent especially when they keep sending out Passion Services Pro. AHS really needs to get rid of that company.

He was able to address the problem but what he did didn't fix it. We had to escalate it to a plumber but he at least pointed us on the right direction.
On another one of our claims, we were a bit miffed because one of the contractors didn't fix the problem but then AHS just closed out the file without informing us why. It took us a bit of time to communicate with them. Better communication on that portion of my experience would have been nicer. Still, everything has been good so far with Home Shield.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield for an icemaker. A guy came out and he made four trips. And every time, we thought he had it fixed, but he didn’t. So, we were about a month without an icemaker. The first time, all he said we needed was a pump and a sensor, but he had to order the parts and he replaced them. An then he said, “Bad news. That didn’t fix it.” So, we had to order some parts for the coils. They did the coils and when they checked the Freon, it was gone. So, they had to make another trip to bring back some part and then they added the Freon.
And then, there was something in the front that sprung a leak. They had to order the parts again and came back out. They got that fixed and plugged, and pushed back the icemaker on a counter. Everything looked like it was working great. They left, and an hour after they left, I walked around the corner and there was no power to the icemaker. It had a dedicated circuit breaker and over a period of three days, I reset that for eight times but still no power. I called AHS back. This time, they sent out Maple Leaf and the guy who came out was very nice. He pulled the icemaker around and he started working with it. I showed him where the circuit breaker, etc. and somewhere in the process of him pulling the maker out and sliding it back in and moving it around, it got power. And the only thing that he can think of was maybe it wasn’t plugged in properly or there was a loose connection somewhere.
The guy took the time the very next day to call me back and check. But it’s working, it's making ice like a champ, and everything’s fine now. It took us about five weeks to get all that worked out. Maple Leaf was the final contractor and their tech fixed it in one trip although he was not 100% sure what he did. It might’ve been a loose connection there that it got fixed up when he moved it around. But it’s working now.
In all honesty, we had a drain problem and I didn’t call AHS first. I called the contractor out that had been recommended to me, and he said I’ve got to call AHS to check. We had put some meat down and we were not talking about a whole lot of meat. But for whatever reason, American Home Shield would not pay the cost of fixing that because we put meat down the garbage disposal. My response was, “If you can’t put meat down the garbage disposal, what is it good for?” The rep pulled out something and read, “Here’s your contract, paragraph 27, subparagraph C, subparagraph 2,” and said something about putting meat down the garbage disposal.
So, I ended up having to pay for that out of my pocket and that didn’t sit well with me. But they responded okay to the icemaker. The contractor they sent might not have been the best quality, but he was very pleasant, very nice. It just didn’t get fixed until Maple Leaf was here. I was disappointed with AHS, but this time, things worked out well.

I've shopped around and spent a month figuring out who is who and what's going on. At the end of the day, I chose AHS because of how professional they ran their site and their claims process and how the things looked from an outsider looking in. The other companies all overly solicited me for discounts and special deals and tomorrow. It was a joke. And then, when you went into their site to really navigate what they can do, what's covered, it was less professional than the people with the website, which I gave it to AHS.
I got two properties with AHS and I will continue to use them, especially since they did negotiate the cost of that service down a little bit to be more competitive because I was shopping around so much. But it was a pleasure as opposed to less than that. Whenever I submit a claim, it has been convenient, timely, and professional. They would tell me that they scheduled the company to come out and they would ask me if I wanna pay the $100 deductible now or later. I would tell them later and then I get a bill after the tech came, and that's really great. But now, they don't give me the option. They're changing things around. But regardless, it's all done right.
My experience with the contractors has been excellent, except for one faux pas they had that they didn't use the same contractor, who charged me for something that they didn't do. And that was a bit upsetting. But the contractors change. AHS can't control it all. They're at the whim of whoever they send to represent them, and they'll lose their contract if they get enough complaints. So if they wanna keep it, they'll do it.
When I bought the service for one of the properties three years ago, it was all good and everything was covered with the AC up to so much if you read all the fine print. I had to file a claim for an AC unit and the tech came out and they told me that they were gonna charge me for the Freon, but they would give me a discount. But I told them that this wasn't in the fine print in the beginning. After I'm a customer for four months already, they send me this new updated thing. That can be expensive.
Right after that, I had the service, and they had to change some other thing. It was 10 pounds of Freon and it was 550 bucks with their discounted rate. So instead of paying $100, I had to pay the 550, and I squawked about it and said that it was not fair. They changed the deal after we made our contract and said, "This is what we're doing effective tomorrow." I checked the rate of the Freon, and their discounted rate was not discounted, even though that contractor said it was. It was still $55 a pound, which is market rate of 40 to 60. So that was a little bit of a bad feeling, but they did a $2,500 repair. So $100 plus and Freon is good.

American Home Shield's online portal is super easy to use and I totally appreciate that. I’ve used them a couple of times and every time it has been about three days for somebody to respond, but they have on their website that it’s 24 hours for someone to respond. They should update that to say 24 to 48 hours so instead of thinking, "I’m gonna get a call tomorrow,” people would have a different expectation. Under normal circumstances, it's not a huge deal when it’s a dishwasher, but if you've got a plumbing leak, that is a big deal. When my dishwasher wasn’t cleaning, the contractor AHS sent out was great. It would run through the cycle, but everything would still look like it did when I put it in there, but now the dishwasher is working great.

I did not have a washing machine for two months because of American Home Shield. The customer service was really, really poor. The contractor, The Appliance Guys, had to come out three or four times and give the same diagnosis because, on the customer service end of things, American Home Shield would tell me that they would put stuff down, but they didn't, and that they checked out the parts but they didn't. It was a two-month process but it should have been one-and-done.
Sitting on the phone with customer service and having customer service with American Home Shield tell me that certain things are being taken care of and noted, and then, going back into my computer and seeing that the case has been closed was disheartening. I spent a total of nine hours on the phone and several days calling American Home Shield over and over again and having customer service tell me one thing, but reality was another thing. So I had to really, really have some stick-to-it-iveness to even get this done and completed. But I love The Appliance Guys’ service. They were very, very good. They were very on point. Everything looks good so far.
I still haven't gotten the microwave replaced yet. American Home Shield wanna replace my Viking, high end, built-in microwave with the lowest end microwave, brand-wise, that had similar features. So my kitchen is gonna be all mixed up, and I’m not gonna have the same brand appliances or even matching appliances. The same thing that happened with my washer that they replaced. Instead of giving me the same LG, which is only five years old, they would not allow me to do that. They replaced it with a GE. Now I’ve got a mismatched set. So, I’m not happy about that because they say that they’ll replace it with the same thing, but it’s just a play on words. It’s not the same thing, and it’s not the same quality.

My recent claim experience with American Home Shield was great. I had an issue with the garage door opener. It was like the motor took a dump. The contractor from Exit Garage Doors was good. He diagnosed the problem right away and had the part on him. It worked out great and quickly. It took him maybe an hour to repair the problem.

I was pleased with the guy from Sears who came out for my kitchen stove. The oven would come on, but it would never heat up. So, the first time he came out, he didn’t have the part that he thought he needed. He came back the next week and he brought a valve. It still didn't work so he returned another time with either another valve or an igniter. But it still wasn’t working so I called and told him that.
He came back the fourth time and brought a regulator. It still wasn’t doing what it needed to do and he explained it to me. He had a gauge that he put on there and he said, “You're getting too much gas pressure into the home.” And I said, “Well, why doesn’t it affect my heating system?” He said, “That’s on the different wattage or something, different level of power.” I said, “Well, what do I need to do? Do I need to call a gas company? I've gotta have an oven.” And he said, “If you had lit a burner when you were baking, it would have taken care of that pressure.” Well, I didn’t know that.
I then called the gas company and they sent a guy out. I told him, “I'm going to the backyard,” and then he came around the front and said, “They put the wrong regulator on your meter.” So, that was the problem the whole time. It actually was not the stove. It was such a frustrating thing because it took 6 weeks. They had changed out my meter three months ago, and the guy that was in charge of that thing was gone, so he wasn’t sure who or what rookie or if that was a case of who had installed it.
At present, I have an oven and I'm happy. The Sears guy was really nice and he worked really hard each time he came. He was really frustrated because he couldn’t figure out why the parts weren’t working but he was just very polite and I have no complaints at all. It's wonderful. I'm also really pleased with American Home Shield. Having the warranty has saved me a lot of money.

We had an AC claim with American Home Shield and when they sent Action Appliance, it was a horrible experience. All Valley Appliance was the good one that came out and did fix the AC, and they’ve done a great job for us ever since. I’ve had a problem with Action Appliance before when I tried to hire them directly. They just came out. They missed their appointment. When they did come out, they tried to have me repair something I didn't need repaired. They didn't know what they were talking about. They delayed about a week, making me wait for a part that we didn't even need. And then, I stopped using them because the scheduling person and the one who answered the phone with me at the time was super-rude. And so, I didn't use them ever again.
Then, through my home service warranty, they sent out Action Appliance for a washer repair. And I assumed it was All Valley Appliance because I used them two times before that through my home warranty, and they were great. I didn't recognize the name changed. I thought it was the same. And when they booked the appointment, it was the rude girl again. I thought I'd give them a chance. Maybe they could redeem themselves. They ended up coming out, and the guy said, “Your washer’s in a difficult space. We really need to rearrange it and move it out so I can work on it. But let me figure it out. Maybe I can get to the error codes, and maybe I could see what’s wrong with it.”
He was here maybe for 10 minutes, and he said, “Okay, I got the problem. It’s the pump. The pump’s gone bad.” And that was covered under warranty, and we had to order the part. I got a large family. I got six kids. And we’ve been out a washing machine now for a week, and then, it’s going on two weeks. I keep calling, and I get this rude girl again, and she says, “Your part hasn’t been ordered yet. Your part order’s under review.” When I asked what she meant that it was under review, she said, “It was a pump. You guys ordered it, and he’d be back in a couple days to fix it.” It’s been two weeks. And she said she didn't have any other information and hung up the phone on me. I got livid. So I called the home warranty department and I complained. They said they could send them out for the same problem and they'd just give me a credit.
All Valley Appliance called me that day. It was a very polite and nice guy. So, he would visit that afternoon. They came and looked at my washing machine, didn't comment about where it was located and how difficult it was to get to it, and he came out 10 minutes later with a sock. He said our problem was we had a sock in the washing machine drain, and that was it. He got to it from the front of the washing machine. He said our problem was fixed. The washer’s draining fine now, there’s no more error codes, and they're all cleared out.
Action Appliance tried to screw me again on a part. I did it again with another guy that came out through our warranty that fixed our pool heater. They said the pool heater was shot and needed to get replaced. They gave me a quote for like 4,600 bucks, which my warranty wouldn’t pay for because they said it was rat damage. I was pretty bummed out. I got a second opinion from a local guy that my neighbors used. He came over, and for 135 bucks, he fixed my pool heater. So, I was never gonna use them again. That’s my problem with the warranty. I like AHS, and I’m glad I found All Valley Appliance that fixes stuff, but most of these other companies, all they care about was getting their service fee. They couldn't care less about fixing the part. Still, AHS rectified my problem pretty well. They're a great option to have.
Hi Chris,
Your feedback is more than appreciated and I hope you continue to enjoy All Valley Appliance for your AC repairs.

One of our main floor ACs that cools the master wasn't cooling. I called American Home Shield and spoke to an agent. It was one of the more helpful experiences that I've had with them. I've had some not so easy times discussing the problem and getting the help that we needed because we were sent out another company initially, and we just had problems with them. So, the day that I called to request Air of Texas, the rep was very helpful. She said they'd give us a call within 24 hours, and they did.
The first guy that came out was nice but he didn't fix the problem. He said there was nothing wrong and that it was cooling to an extent, but then it started heating up again, like outside, and our AC was not cooling properly. We had someone else come out from Air of Texas and look. He identified the problem quickly, there was a loose wire, and it has been functioning well since then. We live in Dallas, Texas and it's hot most of the time. Since the AC was fixed, we definitely were able to be in those rooms again, and it helps a lot.

For the last service I had with AHS's contractor, American Heating & Service, the tech who came out had great character and a great attitude. That time, I was taking advantage of AHS's special to have a professional come out and look over my AC that hasn't had a problem in years. The tech came and couldn't find anything wrong with my AC but his opinion was since I had the original AC unit since the house was build in 1997, I should replace everything which would be $7000 or $8000. He also told me that they offer financial assistance.
With that, I would go from having a checkup to spending 7 or $8,000. I told the tech "No thank you". Unless I have a problem, I won't be using the checkup service anymore. I don’t know if the contractor was slow in business but I will not be taking advantage of that service again. That scared me to death. I would not go in if somebody just wanted something small repaired and try to leave with 500 times more than what a person is expecting to spend. My elderly mother lives here with us. She’s 75 and if I had been out of town and I’m having her handle that tech, I would’ve been devastated if she called me and said we need a whole new unit. Most people can't afford that.
It’s not American Home Shield’s fault. I've had AHS' service for years and years. I've had claims during which their guys have come out and taken care of my issues. They have always been forward and fair with me. There's another company in town advertising on TV and they have been offering the same kind of service as AHS. They guarantee that they will repair my home and they've been emailing me twice a week. I just started sending their emails to the trash box. I'm happy with American Home Shield and I've recommended them to others who have signed up 'cause of my recommendation.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing weekend.

Byrd's Plumbing Services was sent out for us but they didn't do a whole lot in terms of resolving my problem. They tried to troubleshoot it but they really couldn't figure out what was wrong with the unit in the end. At the time of them leaving, it was operational. It wasn't operational due to anything that they did because it kinda has a mind of its own of when it's working and when it's not working. But again, they went through a couple of motions, hoping that it may prevent it from recurring, yet they had no idea if they really resolved the problem. So, there's no fault on the company.
The issues haven't reoccurred, but we feel that since the contractor didn't really do anything, it's just a matter of time before it does. It could be the unit itself and, ultimately, even though it's a brand new unit, it could be a faulty one and maybe it has to be completely replaced. So, we're just gonna have to wait it over certain amount of time before that happens. Other than that, we've had no issues with other claims.

When getting a contract please review the fine print. I had an issue with my brand new American Standard HVAC system in May 2019. In May I contacted American Home Shield in reference to a concern I had about my unit a week later someone came to check the unit and stated that is is an issue with the compressor and they must have AHS order the part which was still under warranty because I purchased the unit in 2017. Two week later the part arrived and I was told I need to pay $575 for Freon once the part is changed because AHS only cover a portion and we are responsible for the rest.
We did what we needed to by paying the money and now lets fast forward to October 2019. We turn the heat on and our unit is coming on however it is cutting on and off. We called AHS. They sent a tech out from another company and he stated that a part called TXV that is part of the brand new compressor that was put on must be changed. Mind you it's under warranty because the unit was purchased in 2017 brand new. However the catch is now I must pay this tech $675 for more Freon because once he change the TXV the Freon is no good. However AHS is telling me my Freon ran out from MAY-OCTOBER.
Can someone please tell me that I am not being ripped off? We are talking about in five months I will be out of $1900 between service fees and what I'm being asked to pay for FREON. And this is with having a warranty from AHS. I was given an email address to express my concern since May and have yet to receive a response. We have them for three different properties and trust me when I tell you we will be canceling. Respectfully, Ms. **.

Described dishwasher as being unsafe!! After almost a week we called to see what AHS was going to do and they again want to repair this dishwasher. This is a KitchenAid dishwasher and is almost 13 years old. We have paid $225 for service calls not including the $88 we pay a month to have this warranty. It's very easy using the American Home Shield website to make a claim. I did one for plumbing and one for a rekey. In about a week, someone came out for the service request. For my plumbing claim, that was two weeks ago and Pipe Master LLC was sent out. The guy from there was timely and excellent. He was very professional and he explained everything. He was here for about an hour and he fixed the toilet. It's been great since.
The rekey claim, on the other hand, took a little longer because I had to resubmit it. The key place didn't have the order, so I contacted American Home Shield and they reset the order and they called immediately. But a guy is here now. He called me ahead of time that he was on his way. He's working diligently, so he seems to be very professional. I've had AHS for about two years now and my experience has been very positive.

Before American Home Shield sent out Sears, who is absolutely the best on the block, AHS tried to send the first person out. And it was a constant miscommunication. They said that they were coming out but they didn’t show. Then they said that they tried to get ahold of me yet there were no text messages nor voicemails. And whenever I called them up, it was like they didn’t have time. I should not have had to go through the iterations as many times as I did.
Long story short, I called back American Home Shield and told them, “Listen. We just got off to a bad start. It’s not gonna get any better. I need to get somebody else.” I was trying to get Sears because I've had experience with them through American Home Shield and they did exactly what they were supposed to do. But before I even got a chance, I paid the $100, and then the girl said that they got some other folks. I said that it didn't make any sense and that it has only been 10 minutes. They didn’t give me a chance to finish the conversation.
So, what I tried to do when they gave me a name of somebody that they were proposing to send out, I looked on our homeowners' network and find out that the company in question has had quite a history of doing not so good things for repair and services. Same when you look at the website of the company itself. Obviously, I don’t wanna be going through the same thing that the neighbors have gone through, especially when they specifically wrote about the company, told all the things that they have experienced and how they paid the $100 for nothing. There was one of them that was writing things up that were untrue and the next thing you know, they still have a broken appliance and $100 out.
Florida has an especially large problem with contractors than it has been in practically any other state we’ve been in. We’re a military family and they’ve been giving us a run for our money. I know my husband has gone down to ConsumerAffairs and to whoever the next level up with legal is, and it’s pretty pathetic, because there isn’t a lot that’s gonna protect you. And it’s even worse for so many of the seniors down here. We run into situations where the seniors would put $50,000 of their entire life savings on a roof and the contractor walked.
So, I cancelled the first, and spoke for the third time with the managers of American Home Shield and they assured me that wouldn’t happen again. They made the effort to try to straighten things out so there is more good than there is bad. I've actually told the managers before and gave compliments to some of the people who did what I think was above and beyond consumer satisfaction, and then when I've had one of them who was just a nightmare to deal with, I’ve called the managers up, explained the situation and got the commitment. It didn't always work but it was enough that I still have the to deal with them. If I had the managers ignoring me when I elevated the issue, then we’d be having a different conversation. If they immediately say, “No, this is the next person. You’re stuck with it. You’re gonna get it. We’ve got your $100,” then that’s when I'm rolling up my sleeve. And I don’t have any issue that if it gets worse.
But in the end, we finally got things resolved. Getting there was a bumpy road and a little bit uncomfortable, but it is what it is. It’s just part of the give-and-take of any business. The problem is always gonna be when there’s a breakdown in communication, and that’s the language barrier. It’s something that’s doable ‘cause if you have somebody that I couldn't understand or I don't think would listen, I'd cancel the warranty, call back and talk to somebody who'd listen to what I have to say. If American Home Shield was to send me somebody out that’s competent and we didn’t have issues, it wouldn’t be a big deal.
Do I expect everything’s gonna be smooth sailing from here on? No. But I don’t have any problem renewing my policy with AHS or recommending them. I can't compare them to anybody else. In the end, I am very thankful that AHS worked with me, got the Sears technician out who fixed my refrigerator before, and did a class act. The tech had to come out twice, but I wasn't charged more for that. The same thing happened with the dryer. They have got professionals second to none.

I had a claim with American Home Shield on my microwave, and my experience was horrible. Swift Appliance Repair was great. But the previous company that they had, Premier Appliance Services, was horrible. They had two appointments they did not show up for. It took me like a month to get one item done. The first time I called to make a request for repair, the guy came and fixed it, and within five minutes, it was not working. He literally was leaving my house when the item went back to the same problem. So, I called American Home Shield and the people came back, and he said that it was something above their ability to repair. In the meantime, it was twice, they didn't show up, so then AHS assigned it to a second company, and that was the company that did fix it. What they told me was that the first contractor had brought a defective part.
I had two companies come out throughout a month, which is totally ridiculous and insane. Your need your microwave every single day. The process was not that difficult. Premier's information was incorrect, and there were two no-shows because they sent me a text that somebody would be here on Thursday. I've been waiting for three hours, and no one showed up. There was no call, text, or email. Then again, somebody was supposed to come in on Saturday, and there was no call, show, or email. It was a horrible service. American Home Shield's contracting people do not do a good job. And they have to step up their game and confirm that the people are coming because they're who I'm paying. I'm not paying the different contractors, I'm paying American Home Shield. So they, for me, on my first experience, was a total zero.

On the news, they’ve been rating home warranty companies, how some of them are not able to do what they need to do. But I have not had that experience with American Home Shield. As a matter of fact, I changed over to them from First American Home Warranty recently and I'm pretty pleased. When my dryer was not drying properly and my washer wasn’t washing well, I called American Home Shield and submitted the claim. They responded to me by setting up an appointment and the contractor came out. They diagnosed what the problem was and were very professional. They were able to diagnose that the washer was fine but the dryer had a gas leak. They were able to replace my dryer though, and they did that.

The evaporator pump was installed without any new tubing on it. So the tubing got clogged up and it quit working, and water was coming out in our basement. My husband did the claim online, and then I called the contractor and they came right out. They are a good company. The tech changed out the tubing, which was causing a clog, and immediately freed it up and it started working. We don’t have water in our basement now.
Our experience with American Home Shield in general has been very challenging with some of their contractors, but this particular company seemed to do a pretty good job. But we are very happy we have American Home Shield. It’s been a good experience. Doing the claim online is the quickest way to do it rather than wait on the phone on hold for someone to come to the phone. But I don’t know how to do it online like my husband. So I hold for half an hour or longer.

And then, the guy from Family AC Service Solutions who came out was very professional and got the AC fixed. The issue had something to do with the condensation line and he explained it all perfectly. If I had any questions regarding it, he would just walk me right through it and explained it as best he could.

We paid the portion that we had to pay for which we knew upfront, but American Home Shield didn’t wanna pay for the full price of the product. That was crappy.

We had a problem with the dishwasher. It was not fitting into the cabinet correctly. We had Bay To Bay Appliance Repair come out to see if they could correct the problem. We had no problem submitting the claim with AHS, but the contractor didn't do anything. We had an electrician that was here working on some electrical issues for us and he was the one that fixed it for us. I didn't know there was a remedy until the electrician pushed in and told me what we had to do to get it to work. All he did was just push it and adjust it and it went right in.
The people that AHS sends should know how to fix things. That's our whole reasoning for having American Shield. My son and I don't know how to fix things around the house, so we're basically gonna have to be having others do it for us. So when we had someone come out that we needed to pay and they didn't fix it and basically said it was not a top problem, that they couldn't fix, then it was kind of just a wasted service call. I don't necessarily blame it on American Shield. They did everything they were supposed to do. I will blame it more on the vendor.

At Home Services fixed our oven after we filed a claim with American Home Shield. They were relatively quick. I got a notice from them later that day or early the next morning after the claim. The repairman was quite familiar with the technology of the oven, took it apart, saw where the element was burned out and ordered a new piece. As soon as he came in he gave us a call, brought that and put it in. He was in and out pretty quick both times. And everything has been fine. We certainly appreciated the contractors coming over quickly and getting it fixed.

We had a leaky garbage disposal, for which Home Shield sent out Price Right Plumbing, and their tech took care of it. The previous time with this contractor, though, they were unable to clear out a bathroom sink line that I called for. Home Shield has a policy about a second opinion but I didn't use that. I just ended up calling a plumber because getting a second opinion puts you at risk. You have to fork over another $100. I also felt like Home Shield gave me a hard time about it. They said they finally were gonna credit me the $100 that I paid, but I’m not even sure if they did or not. But this time, the contractor got everything working. He had the part on hand and he installed it. Besides the garbage disposal, I also had a very good experience with Home Shield on a claim with the dishwasher.

We had a faucet leak and two other water line leaks including the shower diverter. The plumber came out as scheduled on a Saturday and he needed to get parts. He came back on a Monday per his scheduled time and repaired them, and it was perfect. He has a bad rep on Yelp and everything else in Spokane area, but he did fine with us and he communicated with us. So, everything's good and we're happy. We've only had the warranty for a month so far and I submitted the claim online. It was simple once I figured it out and it walks one through. I'm not a tech guy so I would rather talk to someone on the phone and take it that way, but that isn't how they do business. It is what it is and it was fine.

Last month, I called AHS because something was wrong with the air conditioner. It wasn’t pushing out any air. I couldn’t turn it on, there was nothing on the thermostat. It wasn’t doing anything. The contractors looked and saw that there was an issue last month, and then it hasn’t even been a month. And so, AHS said that they would send somebody else out, and so they did.
This time around, submitting the claim had been really easy. The last time that I called, I had to wait through the weekend. It was Thursday evening when I called and they couldn’t get anyone in there on Friday. So, I had to wait through the weekend. That was a bit miserable, but I just waited it out. But, with this time, they were right on it. I showed my concern with that and she said, “Well, no Ma’am.” She said, “If they don’t respond to you within 48 hours, then give us a callback and we’ll try and get somebody else there." And that made me feel good, but the contractors called right away. I’ve also had to call AHS on a couple of different occasions and I can’t complain. It was a good experience.

The doors on my refrigerator were all shut, but the indicator light was indicating that the doors were open. It would beep 24/7 and there was no way to turn that off. It took the contractor three times to fix it. The first time, it was fixed for a couple of days, but at the end of the day, the part needed to be replaced. He was doing an easy fix thinking that would take care of it. At first, I was getting suspicious and thought, "Is he gonna fix it?" He was nice though and finally fixed it on the third time.

I had a leak. I wasn’t sure though if it was in the shower or the pipe. I thought it was a piping issue, but it turned out to be a tile issue. I've had two people come out who just did cursory work. Then I had somebody come in to look at the shower and said, “Oh no, it’s not a tile issue.” So I went back and forth between several contractors. Either the tile and grout person, or a piping person, or a plumber. The last guy from Service Giant that AHS sent was phenomenal. He really took the time to help me to eliminate plumbing as an issue. I got the tile person to come back and to seal the specific areas that the plumber identified. So I was very, very pleased with him.
I've also had previous experience that was really, really bad, bad enough to make me wanna change providers. I had early in the year, around June, placed a claim for a HVAC. It turned out my unit needed some parts. So the contractor came out, identified what the issue was, let AHS know what it was, and then went about trying to identify the part. He identified the part. AHS found the part and gave it to the guy. It was June or July then so we went through several days of excruciating heat. And I have a son, not a baby, but he’s not a teenager either. So it was very uncomfortable for him.
I had multiple calls to American Home Shield about this vendor expressing that this vendor was unresponsive. I escalated the claim and finally, I just told my brother to help me with my problem. I wanted to switch provider then, because they were unresponsive. Months and months went by and American Home Shield, no matter how much I pleaded with them, just was very inflexible about whether or not they would allow another vendor to come through. And then they said, “Well, if we allow another vendor, then we’re only gonna pay you X amount of money. So it was a horrible experience. And I am not a complainer.
I went online and explained it to the person who was communicating with me on Facebook. And at every turn, they were like, “Sorry, there’s nothing we could do. You’re gonna have to still deal with this vendor.” They’ve reached out to the vendor several times but the vendor was unresponsive. I told them that I’ve got a very reputable HVAC company who comes to our neighborhood a lot, but they just refused to allow me to even use this person. It was really bad. Eventually, the provider came and installed the part. But it left a very bad taste in my mouth, to the point that I went out and investigated another company. And for the same, or maybe a little bit more, they will allow me to put my own providers because the group of providers that was being offered didn’t seem to be very good. Still, I have not ruled out switching providers because of that really terrible experience.

They needed another part and ordered it in advance so I didn't have to wait. I work so much, and they tried to really help me and make it easy on me. They had really good customer service. I did an online claim with American Home Shield for an electrical breaker that kept tripping. Using their website was super easy. And I’d almost just prefer to plug in the information as I know it to be and not rely on a third party to sort of take it down. Two electricians showed up, which was nice because they were able to bounce things off one another. They worked for the same company and they both came together.
I also had a claim for the AC. When the tech was here, he walked outside, looked at something, and replaced the part and did a test on it to ensure that it would work. He came inside, turned on the AC, set it, and waited until it started to cool down to make sure it was gonna cool down. And he was great, too. And then, the AC company sent me a report to let me know what it is that they did and all the warranty paperwork associated with it. I have used home warranty companies previously in my former homes, and this isn’t the first time I've ever used Home Shield. They came recommended from a friend, and I am delighted with the service. We talked to several other companies, and American Home Shield was more detailed. We kinda gave different scenarios. We live on a bayou, and we were really affected during hurricane Harvey. This particular area that we moved to was the hardest hit in Houston. Our house is elevated so we didn’t have any water damage, but if anything had happened we wanted to see what exactly would have been covered. They went through everything with us, and told us everything would be covered. I asked a billion and one question. The girl I dealt with was extremely sweet and answered every single question. There was one question she didn’t know the answer to. She put me on hold and got back to me with it. They answered everything. I was probably on the phone with them for an hour and a half.
I submitted a claim over the phone, and the process was quick and easy. It was probably the easiest thing I’ve ever had to do as a homemaker. I spoke to somebody because it was the first time I’ve ever had to use it. And the rep goes, “Ma’am, it’s gonna be real simple. You just tell me what’s going on.” So, I told her my kid dropped a pan on the stovetop, and three out of five burners quit working, and there was a crack in the stovetop. She said I was gonna get a phone call in a few minutes. And sure enough, I hung up with her and within five minutes, my phone rang. Somebody was at my house the very next day.
The contractor was very sweet. He looked at the elements and said they needed to be changed. He said we couldn't just change the elements. The whole thing had to be changed out because of the crack. I said okay and he said, “But this is an older model and you have the vent in the center of it, so it might take me a minute to find this particular stovetop.” He asked if I was fine with that. Somebody from their office called me the next day and she said it was gonna take about four days before they could get that in. She also asked if I was fine with that. Sure enough, On Monday the next week, it came in and the contractor came out.
He was running a little bit behind. He called me first thing that morning. He said, “Ms. **, I’m sorry. We were supposed to be there by 10:00, but it’s looking like it’s gonna be closer to be about 1:00.” I told him that was okay. They got here, he finished it up, and he apologized profusely. He was so kind when he was here. Their communication was awesome - the text messages, the emails, the phone calls. As soon as the contractor left, I immediately got on my mom’s group and recommended American Home Shield.

Sometimes you gotta fight AHS a little bit to get what you want but typically, they satisfy me as far as delivering on the warranty. The only problem I had was that they took forever to get the part and get it repaired. Everything was fine with the claim, except the length of time they took. It took a while for the contractor to come out, and then once they diagnosed it, it took a while to get the part. You’d think with a refrigerator claim, American Home Shield would consider it as an emergency and expedite it. Also, the policy for the first year was $350 a year, and then when we renewed it, it was $500. That’s a 30% increase. But I looked into other companies and they were a lot worse.

I signed up online and there was a lot of problem in creating my account. They created my account, but it didn't register me that I created another account. So, I have two accounts going on. The first 30 days was a mess.
So far, it has been easy to submit claims to AHS. I had some issues earlier in the spring. I had a clogged drain line between the air handler and the drain. The communication with the contractor that they sent the first time wasn't great. They didn't know exactly when somebody was coming and they didn't answer the calls right away. But the last claim was really good. The contractor said they would get back to me within a day and they got back to me within an hour, and scheduled the repair for the next day and sent somebody out. They called in advance and said they were coming. They came and did the job and left.
Hi Jeff,
I am glad to hear about your experience and the issues that were corrected. I hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield!

The sink and bathtub faucet was leaking. So I got online, like I always do, to file a claim. Someone came out the next day and solved the problem.
Good afternoon Derrell,
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with AHS. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.

AHS refuses to honor a contract I have paid for over 3 years for. My contract clearly states that what is described within are the terms of my contract yet they are erroneously refusing to honor the terms by fixing an item that is clearly stated as covered. Slimey business practices. Do not buy a warranty from these low lifes! Try Total Home Protect.
Good Morning Dana,
On behalf of American Home Shield, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience we caused you and your family. Thank you for the time that you did trust us to take care of your systems and appliances in your home. We will definitely be using your review to make our services better. Have an awesome day!

I have had terrible experiences with American Home Shield since my contract started about 45 days ago. After the purchase of a $880.00 warranty coverage plan (includes pool), I was sent an unethical service provider that charged me for the service (even after paying for it) and AHS refused to work with me on the overcharge. Additionally, they found ways to deny coverage under my contract by stating there are "Manual" workarounds to run equipment when they should be run on timers, e.g. pool filtration, heating and plumbing systems. I will not renew this contract after the one year and encourage everyone to do their homework before selecting American Home Shield for a home warranty contract.
Good Morning Jacquelyn,
I hate to hear that you were not satisfied with the service received with AHS. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

I've been with American Home Shield for almost 10 years and every time I’ve used their service, they’ve been responsive. When I filed my claim for a doorbell that was not working and for a light in my bathroom, it was very easy. I called and they contacted somebody. But the company never contacted me so I called AHS back and said that nobody contacted me. They apologized and said that they'd set up again. Then I got a call from Richard who got me on a schedule immediately. He was super nice and professional. He assessed the issue and said that he had to come back with the replacement. He came back the very next day, got the replacement set up and it went wonderfully. So far, I’ve been happy with the results that I’ve received from AHS.
Good Morning Deborah,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

There was a leak on the bottom of the dishwasher and the ice maker wasn't making any ice anymore. I filed claims for both with Home Shield online and it was pretty straightforward. We had two different technicians from Stars Service. One didn't seem to know what he was doing, while the other one was really helpful and tried everything to fix the problem. It was a 50-50.
The repairs took a while. We had at least three or four visits. In one or two of those, the guy came to tell the same thing that he told us during the previous visits. He wasn't prepared to fix the problem during the second or third visit, and he didn't realize that until he got to the house. He didn't have the part. That was why we scheduled that second or third visit for. But then the second technician that ended up coming to the house was better. Other than that, I like having access to technicians - being able to just call a number or go online and set up an appointment and not having to come up with $400, $500, or $600 to get something fixed every time.

I requested for service over the phone for our microwave that wasn't working. The AHS reps have always been very nice and Ramco Appliance Repair, the contractor that came out, was great. They came out within a day and they repaired the microwave. But they had to order parts so they ordered them, got the parts, and came back and fixed it. Since then, the microwave has been great. Ramco is a really good company. I've dealt with them before and they've been very professional. They knew exactly what was wrong and they did great service.

I know the name of American Home Shield and this was the warranty made available to me. I've been with them for almost two years and it's very easy to do claims online. I just go ahead and prepay the service call fee and it makes it easier all the way around. The only downer was when I tried to schedule for an electrician to come out. This was towards the end of last year. That was a disaster. I never got him to come out. I guess he was just really busy at the time and we never connected. I finally gave up. I tried to get my $75 back but couldn't get anybody to respond to me. Finally, my son-in-law came in from Austin and took care of my issue. The latest contractor AHS sent, A-English, was great though. The plumber has been out several times for different issues and he did a great job. He responds quickly and gets the job done. He's very pleasant to deal with.

I'm at 9 months with Home Shield in my location, but I've had them multiple times. They were very responsive when I filed a claim for my dishwasher that wasn't working and Sharper Service Solutions was sent out. The tech diagnosed the problem, ordered the parts, came back and replaced the parts. Unfortunately, we had other issues as well, so it wasn’t fully diagnosed in the beginning. And I’m waiting on the final service on Thursday.
One thing that I would have liked to see done differently is for a total assessment and evaluation of the issues with the appliance done, and then determine whether to replace or repair. The tech has come out for the fourth time to repair our dishwasher, he has replaced three different parts, and in replacing those different parts, it would’ve been easier to just have replaced the appliance itself. He didn’t stay and let the whole cycle run, which means he didn’t care about the motor going out or not working. He didn’t evaluate the heating coil inside as well. So, maybe make it a one stop, whether that be replacing the unit itself or repairing everything at once. Still, the tech who came out has been fantastic and very pleasant.

We had our microwave not working and our experience with Home Shield was a nightmare. We put in the call for the microwave, stovetop, and the backdraft. After almost a month, I called because I didn't hear back from them. Some guys came, inspected it, did the diagnostic, and then ordered for the part. After a few weeks, I didn't hear back from them. I called Home Shield. They said that parts have been put in order, but somehow, they sent it to the wrong address and not the company that ordered it. I had to wait another two weeks. The guys had misdiagnosed it and was having me sign to replace the entire backdraft when in fact it was just a little piece that probably cost $20 to replace. And I found that out when I had another guy come look at another appliance. I was on the phone with Home Shield for hours. They would tell me one thing, and I'd find out a week later there was something different submitted.
I was not happy with the service at all. Some of Home Shield's reps were knowledgeable but some were not. A lot of them told me one thing and then it turned out that they had input something different in the system, and then I found that out when I had to call and say, "What's going on? No one's here. It hasn't been fixed." And it took weeks, many calls, and hours on hold because getting through them was a disaster. It would be 45 minutes or an hour on hold while they figure out what they needed to do, and then they didn't even do what they were supposed to do.
As far as the contractors, the first one was unreliable and dishonest. I found out that based on our interactions, they were misdiagnosing things. I didn't want them to come to our house. I didn't wanna deal with them. And then the GE specialist came. He was amazing. He knew exactly what to do, diagnosed it, ordered a part, and fixed it within a week's timeframe. With Home Shield, I've never had such a horrible experience. And I was working into changing the insurance company because of the lack of satisfaction with them. We didn't have a microwave for a month and a half, then the backdraft wasn't fixed for a month until we got the GE specialist come out.
Manija,
I apologize that your experience with us was not satisfactory. Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

We recently had an annual checkup of the furnace where AHS sent out a tech from Piedmont Mechanical Contractors. Initially, I started off making this claim online and for some reason, it was not filed and I ended up talking to somebody on the phone. But the tech who came out was excellent. I had the same guy about six months ago who checked out the air conditioning system. I liked him then and I like him this time, too. He was thorough, professional, and on-time. He also recommended a few things I could do to keep the system healthy. I just moved into this condo about February. Everything's 17 years old and I'm expecting them all to break down, but he gave me advice on how to keep them alive.
Other than that, I've had the warranty since February and so far, I've had three things done. The first thing was they sent somebody out to put new locks on the doors and that went fine. The tech was very professional and on-time. And I was happy with that. Then I had a claim for the air conditioner and now the furnace. And all those three things were done well.

I usually submit claims online to American Home Shield but for the plumbing, I had to talk to somebody so they could try to find me somebody that could come out sooner. They told me no one could come out until Thursday and that was too long from Sunday for my plumbing to be backed up in both bathrooms. The AHS reps did okay on the phone but the first two people told me they were gonna call me back and didn’t. So, I had to still call back on Monday. The guy from Drain Go was okay but he said that they couldn’t do my plumbing the way that it was set up. My return switch is under the house and AHS wouldn’t cover it if they would have to go under the house. I had to pay them the $75 and they were not able to rectify the problem. So, I have to call another plumbing company.
I’ve been with AHS for 10 years and I was disgusted with the plumbing issue but the other claims have been okay. A couple of weeks ago, the garage door wouldn’t go up and when it did go up, it looked like it was about to fall off the hinge. The guy from Magic City Door did a good job and it has been working fine since the repair.
