We've had American Home Shield since March, and everything in my house that could have broken has broken. Each time I’ve called, they’ve always been very responsive. I haven’t always gotten the answers that I liked, but it was the answer that it should have been the answer to. And it was very polite, nice and explanatory. So even though I didn’t like the answer, I knew why the answer was what it was. I recently called and they told me that I would get an email, which I did. The plumbing company contacted me so we set up a time for the gentleman to come out and fix it. He showed up on time, and everything was really good.
Good morning Melissa,
I would like to thank you for your kind words to American Home Shield about your experience. I hope you continue to enjoy the warranty and contractors that aid in making your experience one to remember.

They send a guy from Active Appliance to fix the leak from the refrigerator. He did not fix it but made it worse, now it's 75 degree inside the fridge. I called. They said that the active appliance will be there in Nov 7, I called them October 28. Therefore, I throw away about 200 dollars food in the trash. I also called another guy to fix the leak and I paid him because the water damaged the kitchen, and my refrigerator still not working.

A sewer pump in the basement went out of whack. The problem was quickly identified, isolated, and repaired within a week. The tech explained all the problems and what was likely that happened and he provided the temporary solution till he came back and fixed a new pump. Everything was done very well. It was a very good experience.
Hi Jay,
I am glad to hear about the sewer pump that was replaced through American Home Shield. I hope you continue to enjoy the coverage we provide!

It takes a while to get replacements done. But the contractors of AHS have all seemed to be good. They know what they're doing. I still question the long-term value of the warranty, in terms of the overall cost. But we're not gonna get away from it. My wife believes in it, totally. It's the value of having to find a contractor and somebody who knows what they're doing when they show up.

I filed a winter check-up request to AHS and the experience was great. The tech from Service Pro Heating & Air arrived within his window. He asked me where my thermostats where, both upstairs and downstairs, and where the actual units were in the attic, and he checked all of those. And then, he came on and said that everything was looking good. I've been with AHS for a couple of months now and so far, I've been really happy with the service. It's been convenient. My dad has a warranty with them too. We have been looking for some other optional services, like handyman, etc. And if AHS ever had suggestions for people who could do trim works and things like that, that would be awesome.

The system would come on and cycle off every two minutes. R&K Heating and Cooling came out and we had a very professional interaction. If I ever have any problems in the near future, they would be my go-to people. It took them about 48 hours to resolve the issue. It was from the weekend and they came out that Monday. But I wasn't too good with that. I would like to see somebody being able to do weekend calls. AHS had Central Heating & Air in their list and they couldn't fix an air conditioner in my dog house, if I had a dog house. They were very unprofessional. When I found out that they were sending them out, I called American Home Shield and they sent R&K Heating and Cooling that rectified the situation. With the exception of them not able to send a contractor out during a weekend call, I would still recommend them.

There have been a lot of issues with this house we moved into and American Home Shield has been great at helping to fix them, so I'm very happy. Nana Services Inc. came for the stove several months ago and they were not able to fix it. But they did a great job of looking at the stove, diagnosing it and trying to find parts. We got the stove which American Home Shield is paying for, but when the Nana installer tech came, because our stove is inset into a tile countertop, he said he didn't know how to do it, which was fine. We wanted it done well. And then, American Home Shield called and said that tile access is not covered. So, we're currently looking for somebody independent to do it. I wouldn't have minded paying extra. It would have been nice if we could've had Nana and their tech, even if they charge us extra. He was very flexible on scheduling, and it was a positive experience.

I make claims through the Home Shield's website and once you let them know what you need to have repaired, they tell you right then and there to expect one of the contractors to contact you within 24 hours. The contractors will either send an email, a text or a phone call. The contractors are very courteous and professional. Recently I was having issues with my garage door, and Choose the Right Door came out this week to repair it. AHS is worth the money, and I value the easiness of having a contractor come to my home instead of trying to do the refrigerant on my own.

We're with Home Shield for about a year and a half now, and we just had our second claim. We had some plumbing issues and after I put the claim online, they had somebody from Diamond Plumbing call me and that contractor came out in a couple of days. They also called to tell us when they would be here. Once they got here, they kept us informed of what the problem was and what they were going to do to fix it. They were in contact with Home Shield as well. The problem was much more extensive than we originally thought, so they took about 5 days and the same people were here the entire time. On the final day, they just needed to do some final work which was some minor stuff. They were all very professional and did a good job. So, we’re happy with the contractor company as well as the way that Home Shield handled the claim. They did it in a timely manner and everything is perfect now.

Another firm put in a thermostat in August and I could not get any heat in that section of the house. It turned out that the thermostat that was installed was defective. In submitting claims, I've used American Home Shield's website virtually exclusively. I did this claim on Friday and they contacted me on the same day. Then, it was on Monday when Crispy Air & Heating came out. The contractors were fine. Then first guy who came in identified what the problem was, but he didn't have the thermostat on-board. So, they had to come back a couple days later to replace it again. Now it is working and everything has been fine. AHS did a good job. They were quick and confident.

We had Barry Johnson Electric out here through a claim that we filed with American Home Shield, and it was awesome. I followed the guy around, but not all the time, because I was interested in what he was doing. From my understanding, it all stems from one light switch. When one switch is fixed, sometimes it would run, and the next switch wouldn't work. The guy went from one end of the house to the other, and once he would get one switch fixed, the next one that he went to would not be working even though it was working before he fixed the one before it. So, it was a matter of working through it, coming down one by one and checking the switches and the outlets, until he found the one that was the culprit. And once he found that, everything was fine. This guy definitely knows what he's doing, and everything was handled as well as it could be. American Home Shield has been awesome and we appreciate it.

I filed a claim with Home Shield for the washing machine. It was vibrating hard. There was no availability for a technician, so I had to wait like five days before he came out. He came on time and in a matter of about 10 minutes, he troubleshooted it and said that the bearings were going out and that there was nothing else to do as of that time because the expense to do the repairs was more than what my home warranty would cover. We decided we’re just gonna use it up until it dies.
The technician came in a personal car and I asked him for his business card because he did not have an attire. There was nothing on his body that said Star Services. But he got a pin because he was out of business cards. He also said that their truck that they normally use was being repaired. He was nice enough, came in and got the job done, and he gave me a quote on installing the dishwasher because that had just got hauled out. In this instance, it worked out fine but my concern is that they need to be professional-looking and have business cards especially because I'm a woman and my husband’s not home.

I typically submit my claims through AHS and I've been very happy with them. I had issues with my toilets making noises in cycling, and I had two toilets that were doing that. Fleming Appliance came out, and they replaced something in both of the toilets. Then I had to call them for a second time because one of my toilets is really stubborn and evidently, there was something still leaking. But I’m real happy with Fleming Appliance. They always come out, they make their appointments and they are totally respectful.

The gentleman that came out to repair my dishwasher told me that he repaired it. He also told me not to run the dishwasher until I got a bottle of Glisten Dishwasher Magic. He told me it would clean out any residue that was left in the dishwasher. I did not have the finances to buy the product, so I waited until my next payday. But, then, I was also in the hospital for gallbladder removal. When I got the product, I ran it through the dishwasher, and it did not improve. It did not dry my dishes as well. So, I called back, and they told me on the line that there was nothing I could do because I did not call within the timeframe. I apologized and said what happened and they said it did not matter and that I had 10 days and 10 days only. They did not care that I’m past the two weeks, and that I would have to make another call, which would cost me another $100.
I called the repairman and he said, “I can’t help you. You’ll have to call American Home Shield, and then they’ll dispatch me back.” I said, “Perfect.” The repairman was excellent. I was a little late getting back to my house, and he said, “No problem. I’ll wait for you.” He then told me what to do, and that it was just my fault for not having the finances to buy the Magic product to get rid of the residue. He said it was from the stickers and stuff that came out off bottles and pickle jars, or anything that might’ve gotten caught in the dishwasher. He never came back out and looked.
I was dissatisfied that nobody even let me talk to a manager. So, my dishwasher is still not working and I’ve been washing my dishes for a couple of months. On the other hand, my first claim to them was on my air conditioner and it was excellent. AHS was wonderful. It took forever to get the air conditioner in the dead summer, but that was how it goes in the middle of summer. I was just thankful to have an insurance. Overall, AHS is a great way to go. With it, I don’t worry about things breaking now.

I have a split AC and heating system. The functionality of it has been going down gradually. So, it used to heat very quickly but then over the last few months, it has progressively gotten worse to where it had to be running for 15 or 20 minutes to heat. One time, there was a loud noise coming from the heating system when the heater goes on. That noise was progressively getting louder. I submitted a claim to AHS and Tempest HVAC came out that same week. Tempest, from making the arrangements, to the person that I spoke to to make the appointment, to the actual technicians and the service they provided, was outstanding. They did an excellent job with everything.

I called American Home Shield and it took a couple of days before the contractor came out, which was to be expected. The guy was here for about 10 minutes and then the toilet has been fine. We've had American Home Shield in Arizona, and they used to charge 75$, but in California now they asked for a $100 payment. Still, I would recommend them. They are my go-to when there’s a problem and they helped me with all sorts of issues in plumbing, refrigerator, washer, dryer, and all the different services that I have. I prefer to submit claims online and it's a fairly easy process. But there are certain features that are not available so I end up calling them in depending on which the issue is. They are friendly, thorough, and seem to be very knowledgeable. However, there's a problem if I get one of the agents who can be difficult to understand as they may have some of their agents in foreign countries and it may be the call quality or the language barrier.
I also have a problem in getting a contractor. Some of their contractors are not as good or quality-driven as others and some of them have several calls to my house but they can’t fix stuff. So, if I want to use a different contractor, the automated system just puts me through the next available. I would have to call in and say, “I don’t want to use ABC contractor,” and that I've seen them in the past. But it’s better than the risk to take if I go outside of them.

Major Home Appliances came out and they were okay, though sometimes it was monotone. I need to know exactly what time because that means it's taking me out of work, so I had to call to check on the status. But the technician was awesome, and I later learned that he's fairly new which was not a problem because he did what he had to, and he was excellent. If you're a single mother and you don't have anyone to help you with your appliance, you should get this warranty.

We called a different plumber and this guy found the issue and cleaned it out, and we haven’t had an issue since. The first plumber that came out was friendly. He just didn’t fully know what he was doing. He couldn’t figure out what the issue was. Turned out it was hard water build up over a long period of time, which was causing a blockage. The second plumber that came out was friendly and got the snake with the drill on the end of it, and he drilled through the water and cleared out the pipes, and it worked. My claim with AHS was primarily with the garbage disposal with some secondary plumbing issues that the contractor, His & Hers Plumbing, dealt with while they were out here. I did the claim over the phone, but I did speak with a representative because there were some other things I needed to add on there. When you do the automated, it only dispatches one thing. The person I spoke to on the phone was kind of having an issue figuring out one of my service items. It was a hose bib and trying to figure out how to put it on there took a little bit of time. But overall, I've been very happy. I've had service with them for 10 years now at the same property, so I've kept it on.
The contractors are really nice to work with. They were able to get me taken care of. I had a time commitment that would be only being able to be here for a short period of time. So, that was really nice. The gentleman who was here was one of the service managers. He was very efficient, very knowledgeable and diagnosed everything. He was in and out within 40 minutes. He changed the disposal out, fixed a couple of plumbing issues, and he was gone. I was very surprised how quick everything went. And it worked out really well because I had another appointment to get to. I've had a lot of different vendors over the past 10 years, and it's probably one of the most efficient fixes of something where I thought it was gonna take a while. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. One of the nice things is that I spend an x amount a month with them and I've got coverage if major things break down and some minor things as well.

The costs of AHS were reasonable. They’ve gone up a little bit. I had service last week that turned out okay. However, I would like to know if there was a $75 charge for the checkup and then also the $125 charge for the co-pay on the replacement part, which I believe was a capacitor. I believe if you call somebody in for a checkup and they find something and there’s a charge for that, the charge should be deleted if it leads to the actual work being done. But the service was satisfactory.

We were satisfied with our claim on our HTG where A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out. The guy named Kevin was able to diagnose the problem. He did a super job. We had one simple problem where the gas was turned off, and he fixed that. Then something else weird happened, and he came and got it back up and running. Something else weird happened again, and that was when he said, "You know what, I bet you it's the circuit board." So, he showed up with the circuit board already in hand, was able to get in there quickly, get it swapped out, and we've had no trouble since. He was courteous, quick and efficient, too. It went pretty smooth for somebody that had to come out three times, and I appreciate his persistence in sticking with it.
We got American Home Shield as a one-year trial when we first bought our previous house and we have been happy enough to stick with it. But, there have been a number of times where we have had problems and there was some sort of a loophole as to why they didn't take care of them. AHS keeps sending people from out of the area to do a job that could easily be done and even though I had to request somebody from the area so I didn’t have to wait as long, I did wait long. I contacted American Home Shield over the phone for the toilet and a leaking faucet. I requested someone local for this claim. Emergency Plumbing took one week to come out but they came on time and they were very cordial. The guy did the toilet, but he had to order a faucet and that took another week. Everything has been completed since then but two weeks to do it was a little lengthy.
It’s as simple as looking at the area code to see who’s local or the same zip code, but nobody looks into that. Every time I have a claim, they would refer me someone from very far and they would say that the contractor services the area too. I understand but that takes longer and by the time they get here, they're frustrated. They don’t wanna do the work like the first ones who came for a leaking shower. They didn’t know what they were doing. They came from very far and they didn’t fix the problem so, my husband told them what it was. Once they did that, they fixed it right. What they are able to do to access the actual problem is very limited. They cannot remove debris or anything like that to get to it.
I apologize for the inconvenience Jehan. I can understand frustration in regards to your plumbing. My name is Stacy, and I've emailed you as I would like to follow up with you until the issue is resolved.

We had several of our outlets that had issues. Some of them went out, weren’t working or some were loose and it was hard to make them work. One of them was touch-and-go from the beginning, and then two or three of them stopped working all of a sudden. The technician from Jaeger Electric was great. I wasn’t home, but he was very quick and did a great job. Everything has been good with American Home Shield and I feel positive about it.

I had a garbage disposal issue and a contractor was sent in a very reasonable timeframe. He came on the date that we agreed upon. The good thing about the experience is that the gentleman that came out kept me informed when he was coming via text messaging. I told him I was running a little behind, but he was okay with that. Then he came in, identified the problem, and fixed the issue. I've used AHS twice. I've heard some bad things about them, but I can only speak from my own personal experience. Their contractors came here and fixed the problem. There were no issues, so I'm satisfied.

I was turning on my thermostat in the house and the heat wasn’t coming on. Or it was coming on for one cycle, and then it wouldn’t keep coming on like recurring heaters. I requested for service from American Home Shield over the phone. My interaction with their rep was fine and everything went good with my interaction with Everyday Heating and Cooling, the contractor who came out. The tech said one of the traps was filled with water and the filter needed to be changed, and he did it all in 10 minutes. My heater works fine now. I just wish they could work on my payment because it kept coming back. They kept trying to run it and it wouldn’t come out. They told me that something was wrong with the payment. I was trying to figure out what it was, but they had the wrong debit card number. A week ago, I gave them the right debit card number, but they still have yet to take it out of my account.

I’ve had American Home Shield in the past and I got them again. We've had the current warranty for almost a year now and I access their website on my phone when I have a claim as it gives me a paper trail. I know what my expectations are and I’ve not had a problem with AHS. I had my air conditioning fixed and I’ve had my furnace fixed too. I had no problem with the contractor for the air conditioner, however, there was a misunderstanding with the furnace contractor that pissed me off a little bit and which I made it known.
The furnace contractor came in from the rain and he could have taken his shoes off. We have white carpet and that was a little bit of no-brainer. Then, he put a black, dirty something on the floor for the furnace on our white carpet that I just cleaned. He left a lot of debris on the carpet and my husband cleaned it. He apologized and it was an easy fix, so everything was fine in the end. As far as the service, he came out the first time and didn’t fix what needed to be fixed. He had to come back a second time but everything seems to be running appropriately now.

My range stopped working one time and there was an error code that came up on the screen. I submitted a claim to AHS and they sent Wright Appliance Service & Repair. The contractor was fast and immediately said what was wrong with it and tried to look for the part. AHS tried to look for the part as well but then said they were gonna issue a replacement.
The problem is that they send you a link to do the replacement and if you don’t click all the way through the entire replacement questions, there are two other pages where you have to do some confirmation pieces. AHS didn't tell me that my request for a replacement didn't go through. So, I called to check and see where my appliance was and I'm starting all over. While Wright Appliance was immediate, American Home Shield was not. They just ordered the replacement appliance today.

With AHS, communication is fantastic. I like the fact that I don't have to call anyone. I can go online and do a service request. But when I needed it escalated, I was able to call and they were able to escalate it up. Recently, my thermostat went out on my furnace and I have an eleven-month-old. They put me with a contractor, but that contractor wasn't able to get out here and I would have to wait until they could schedule an appointment. I called AHS back and said that I needed heat that night.
They found Make It Right Heating and Cooling. A gentleman called me right away and said that he had a couple more jobs, but he would definitely fit me in. He also said that he would get here before 6:00 PM and he was out to my home at about 5:00. It was fantastic. And when I looked online, Make It Right Heating and Cooling closes at 4:30 PM. I really appreciated that he went the extra step and still come out after his hours.
Prior to AHS, I was with another company and they were not meeting my expectations. I received a lot of referrals about AHS, so once my contract was over with the other company, I decided to make the move to AHS. Now that I'm with them, they have surpassed my expectations. When I put in a service request, it normally gets resolved the same day. Not like with the prior company, where sometimes, it would be weeks before I get service. I've told a lot of my friends and family about AHS and the ones who purchased it, love it.

I'm not computer literate so doing it online was hard but I figured it out and it was easier. I can go on the webpage and when I put in my number and address, it tells me what my coverage is, which I like. Also, I've had several issues in the last two weeks, but so far everything has been okay. I like AHS and I've been satisfied with the work.

American Home Shield is doing good but sometimes, they send very incompetent people. On the first claim, I had a very bad experience. They sent somebody called Comfort Air Cooling who were very unprofessional people. They were not diagnosing the claim very well. I complained and then after that, almost everything was fine. Also, when it comes to replacing, they give only the cheapest product. They don't replace the same thing as they have. For example, I had to replace the air conditioner and they gave cheaper company. They didn't give the same company product.
Recently Grade A Plumbing came out but they haven't fixed the claim. The faucets are not working and are leaking out, so the tech ordered parts and they are waiting for the parts. I called AHS and they said normally, it can take four to eight business days, but it's already eight days now. Still, AHS has taken care of everything so far. The plumbers are ordering parts from Delta, so I cannot blame them.

When I had several plumbing issues, I called the American Home Shield number and asked to speak to a person. If you do it online, you can submit one thing, but if you have more than one issue for the same technician, it has to be on the work order or they won’t do it when they come. Generally, when I call AHS, they send Greenway and it could be days before Greenway could get a plumber out so I specifically asked for someone else. The contractor who came was very knowledgeable and came very promptly. We had some slow-running drains, a toilet that wasn’t working right, and a leak under a sink. He fixed them all.
AHS had sent Greenway to fix our furnace recently. They got someone here quickly and that went well too. But last winter, it took them months to get our furnace fixed and by that time, it was summer. We also had an expensive refrigerator and at one point, AHS sent Greenway. Then Greenway called and said that all their technicians quit and so they couldn't do any appliance repairs. AHS tried a couple of other people who weren’t able to fix it either. Finally, they declared it dead and gave me $3,000 as cash-in-lieu instead, which was big.
We will be canceling our AHS service, which expires on Monday. They have increased our rates quite a bit because they say we have too many claims. But there wouldn’t be so many service calls if they sent somebody who could fix the problem on the first try or had parts on their truck, didn’t have to order them and come back multiple times. The AHS person I talked to wasn't buying it though. We’ve been with them for years, but that didn’t hold any sway with them either. They decided we weren’t worth keeping as customers unless we pay them a whole lot more money.

When I bought the house, I put the gas fireplace. I put a claim in to American Home Shield for some gas spills and the stuffed up pipe for the gas. When the guy from Service Contractors of Texas came, he found the issue. When I maybe kept turning my fireplace on, it was spilling gas. It was a totally a stuffed up pipe and not meant to be on all the time. So, the guy told me like, "Oh no, that's a stuffed up pipe. Perhaps you didn't have the gas pipe for the fireplace." So, I was very happy with the service. He found out why I was emitting gas, and he gave me some options to either go to a wood fireplace or a gas fireplace. And he also went on the roof and told me about the trim. Submitting claims with American Home Shield is easy. I've used them twice for the heater and the AC and they fixed it. So, they figured all of it and told me what was wrong. 75 for just an inspection is a little bit expensive, but it was a great experience and service.

The guy from River City Appliance was fine. The belt totally had stripped out after he had already replaced and fixed it after having been out three times, and then he said that the drum was deteriorating as well. There was couple other things that he said were wrong with the appliance, too. I didn't pay close enough attention because he said he was going to put it all in and that it may be cheaper for American Home Shield to replace it than to fix it.
I have been with this home warranty company for nine years and it would be nice if I got replacement value on my stuff. I’ve probably paid for everything in whole of that has ever been replaced, but I paid for it at $57 a month every month instead of having to come up with $2,500 here, $1,000 there for the course of nine years. $50 over nine years is $5,400, and that is about the amount that it would've cost me to replace the different appliances that I had replaced. So, having AHS is good if you do not have a lot of cash terms.

We had back up in both our bathrooms. If we flush the commode, we got water or whatever was going down. They came back up into the shower and the tub. So, I simply went online and made the claim to American Home Shield. Their website was self-explanatory, but finding the claim page was a bit of a challenge. I found it without that much difficulty but it seemed like I had to hunt for the page. But once I found it, filing a claim has been very easy. My particular problem was we had what I would’ve described as a back up. But on their website, it said stoppage. So, I just used the term stoppage. I considered it to be synonymous with blockage. I received a notice that someone had been contacted and that they would be getting in touch with me within a few hours. But the company, Super Plumbers, took another two or three days.
Super Plumbers was very professional. The young man that helped me seemed very knowledgeable. And when he left, it appeared that it had been corrected. Unfortunately, we had to file another claim. In fact, I filed it today for the same thing. We have two tubs and a shower. The tub in the secondary bathroom is having a drainage issue. Basically, aside from the back up, the water was standing in the tub and we had to wait for it to go down, and that is occurring again. It’s not from the toilet, but whether you take a shower or you take a bath, instead of the water going out, it simply doesn’t drain. It takes six or eight hours to drain.
I’ve had experience with American Home Shield in the past. Not only as a customer but I bought them for houses that we’ve sold. And so, when we purchased this house, we picked them amongst the several companies that offered their service because we've had success with them in the past. My overall experience has been very good. If others were looking for a plan to help offset potential issues that they would have at the lowest cost, AHS has performed the way I expected and I would recommend them.

I had three switches in the bathroom - one was a fan, an overhead light, and an exterior light. All three were non-operable. Submitting a claim through American Home Shield was easy. The irritant for me, and I’ve had this before when I had an American Home Shield warranty in a prior state, was that they break the process into multiple pieces. They send a low-tech person you pay $75 that goes, "Yup, you got a problem." And then you have to take off work for a second time to have them then come fix it. That’s irritating.
The guys from All Safe Electric that came were very pleasant, but they were constrained by the bifurcated, multi-step process that American Home Shield has in place. If I had called a general electrician that was not covered by American Home Shield, the electrician would have fixed it the first time, and I would not have had to take off work twice. And that seems to always be their M.O. When I was in Charlotte, North Carolina, we had American Home Shield, and it was the same thing. The contractor came out and said, “Yup, you’re not an idiot home owner. You do have a problem.” And that will send somebody who’s actually qualified. I don’t understand that process. If the first guy is legitimate enough to diagnose, but he’s not legitimate enough to then fix it, then how good is he at determining that you actually have a problem?
If they really wanted customer experience to be the number one, they would do it in one fell swoop. Now, if the guy didn’t have the part, that’s a different issue. But they found it was a basic wiring issue at a switch in the master bedroom. So he just had to take off the switch. They found it, they fixed it, and we’re done. It took them all of 20 minutes to fix it. But it took me taking off work twice and driving, and then having to come in to work late.
I had an attic fan that went bad. And the first time the contractors came out, they’re like, “Yup, it’s dead.” And then they sent a second guy out to fix it. So they had to get authorization from American Home Shield to fix it. Why could not the technician, while they’re in my home, call American Home Shield to have them authorize it real-time, and save me an extra visit. It seems like it would save the contractor travel time twice to the same site visit. That seems incredibly inefficient to me. I’m willing to pay an electrician who can come and get it done once, versus me having to take off work twice. Everything else was great.
Susan,

I got an email from AHS saying that they had a special tune-up for $75 and that I could pay online, and the guy would come out and check everything about my heating system before wintertime set in. I did that and the tech from Carolina Heating & Cooling did come out. When he was doing all the checking, he discovered a part that was just on the brink of failing, and he said, if it fails, it will break, and if it breaks, the parts may get into the fan and other things, and it may cause a lot of damage. So, he recommended that I replace it right then on that visit. He said he had the part in his truck. He called AHS to get an authorization because he had to write a separate ticket for that because the $75 only covered the inspection part. I got on the phone and verified that I knew what was going on and that was me. The AHS rep authorized it and the tech wrote a ticket up and replaced the part and left. He was very professional.
I use my gas logs to heat my house when it's this time of the year because in North Carolina, the weather varies a lot in the spring and in the fall. I don’t turn my heat pump on until it's a regular progression of really cold days. We turned it on while the tech was here and it worked fine. But since he left, I haven’t turned it on yet. I've had AHS for years and every now and then, I get annoyed because I'm putting a lot of money into it every month, but when something happens, it cost me whatever the fee de jure and it's taken care of. At one time, over 10 years ago, I had a refrigerator that just quit working. I called AHS and they sent somebody out. The refrigerator was 18 or 20 years old. The tech said, “I'm surprised it lasted this long. It really can't be fixed. There's too much wrong with it. You need a new one.” I had AHS bought it for me. And you can't beat something like that.
I have recommended AHS to a number of people. I live by myself and I'm 74, and I'm like a traditional 1950’s grown-up girl. So, I don't know how to do handyman’s job. I never bothered to learn. Since I moved into this house in 2012, my microwave door handle came loose on the bottom, you could swing it back and forth like a yo-yo. I called AHS and said, “Do you fix things like this?” They said yeah. The guy came out and he said, “I'm gonna order you a brand-new door.” And I said, “It's just a handle.” And he said, “You can't replace just the handle. You have to replace the whole door.” So, I got a whole new door. This house was built in 2002. So, the microwave was 10 years old and I got a brand-new door. So, stuff like that, they don’t argue with the serviceman.

AHS's service is normally good. It’s just their hold time is long but other than that, they’re always nice. One time, the water pressure in the kitchen was very low and the water would stall before it comes on. I turn the faucet on and nothing comes out for like a minute and then it starts running. The contractor came out and the guy that came said that it was my faucet and I needed a new one. So, he had to order that and then he would have someone come and install it.
Then, the faucet man came in three or four days. He started taking things apart and he said he had to go get another part. He was gone for three and a half hours and then came back and installed it. But my water wasn't getting hot at all when he left. I tried spinning the faucet both ways and I can actually spin it around like it wasn't bolted down in the sink. It wasn't supposed to be like that. And it was one of the faucets where you can use the sprayer and the sprayer was just hanging out.
I called American Home Shield back and I let them know the issue. They said they were gonna send the contractor back out but they never came out. I called American Home Shield again. They put them in and it never came. I called a third time and one of the reps said she wasn't sure why it kept getting canceled. She said she was gonna have someone else come out.
When the guy from Prime came out, I explained everything to him, and he said the reason the sink is spinning is that it’s not bolted down correctly and the sprayer is hanging out and the nozzle doesn’t stick in is because they didn’t include the weight. I told him my water wasn't getting cold and he checked down below. He ended up having to order another faucet because so many parts were missing that they didn’t include or I don’t know if they were in the box this guy took with him. The parts had to come directly to my house and he made sure he told me to not open the box. They have to open it just to make sure and verify all parts are in there. He put the parts in and everything is working fine now.
Prime was very professional. He had let me know what he was doing and I like the fact that when they were coming, they schedule. And then they call before the installer or technician is on the way. I also got a link and I could track where they were and how long like estimated time. They were very informative and I liked their service. I also let American Home Shield know that if I ever had any other plumbing issues, I do not want that first plumbing company that they sent out at my property at all because they didn’t fix anything. They actually screwed up things.

I had an issue with my icemaker/water dispenser on the fridge. I went to change the water filter inside the fridge, and when I did, I went to bleed out the air in the filter. But as soon as I pushed the filter or the water dispenser, it was sending out the ice and the water would not shut off at all. It was all over the place. And the only way I could shut it off was to open the door, and then I had to lock the buttons out. That was where things went haywire. I scheduled for a service with American Home Shield online and then their rep called later over the phone for me to explain what was going on.
The service guy from Wright Appliance came out, looked at it and got it fixed really quick as soon as I showed him what was going on. He knew something was up because the water wasn’t coming out correctly. He pulled the thing off and the tube where the water feeds in to the dispenser came off. It was pinched between the icemaker and the water dispenser part. So, he moved that and pushed it in and everything worked.

My garbage disposal wasn’t working and I didn’t know how to clear it. I called AHS and their response time was so quick. They set me up with My Good Plumber and the gentleman came out and fixed it for me. He was very nice. He introduced himself and slipped on the little booties over his shoes so he wouldn't mess up my floor. He came in, evaluated the situation, and told me what was going on. I told him that I usually don’t use the garbage disposal because I didn’t want to accidentally put anything down there that shouldn’t go.
He cleared the garbage disposal out and he told me that it was in really good condition and that it just needed to be reset. He showed me how to do that and told me that it’s okay to use it every now and again, even if I don’t have a lot going down there, just to keep it going. He also told me that I could use ice chips to keep the blades sharp. I've never heard that before, so that was a good tip. I had another property with them before I moved into this house, so altogether I've been with them for four years.

We just moved into the house back in April and we noticed recently that there was water accumulating in the vegetable drawers of our refrigerator. It looked like there was condensation forming on the back of the refrigerator and there was a drain for that that it looks like in the design, the design anticipates the condensation and provides a way of draining that, and the drain was obstructed. So the person from Optimum Appliance came and had to have a special tool to blow out the drainage host so that it would drain again. I was delighted with the contractor. He communicated with us before he came. He said, "I can see you earlier, is that okay? I'll be there in about 10 minutes." He was here in 10 minutes so he was here when he said he would be here. He was respectful and had shoe covers for the house when he came in. He did the assessment, everything was timely and he left.
American Home Shield's claim process was easy. I called them to submit a claim because sometimes, I like the human contact. And it was easy to do it over the phone. I could have done it online, but my preference was phone. The contracting company called very quickly. We've submitted two claims at once and they both called the same day to try and set up an appointment. So that process was very easy. The contractor said, "No, we don't bill you anything. You'll get billed by American Home Shield." My wife is handling the billing on that so I haven't seen whether or not we've paid anything against that yet. But that was straightforward and I was really pleased.

I’ve had a number of recalls, but when they would come out, it turned out it wasn’t that exact same part that the tech had replaced. But now it's running well.

I called American Home Shield because my furnace was making a lot of noise, and it's in the attic. When Right Tech Heating and Air went up there, they didn't find anything wrong other than it needed to be cleaned and serviced, and they charged me a couple hundred bucks and cleaned and serviced it and it's fine. They were professional enough. The only thing that I had any issue with was that, they have a special where you can have your furnace cleaned and serviced for $89, but the contractor charged me $199. So, I thought that was a little strange.

Loyal Hand Appliances came out for the AC claim that I filed to American Home Shield. The claim experience was good but I had to pay two extra pounds of Freon because AHS doesn’t cover that. I needed two pounds of Freon. It was $120 and AHS only paid 10 bucks. So, that cost me $100 besides the $100 I gave the guy. Nonetheless, the tech was good. I've been with American Home Shield for five years now and so far, my interactions with their reps have been great. However, when I first started, it was $50 a call. Now, it’s $100. It jumped up by 80%. Other than that, they've been great.

We had a claim for the dishwasher where AHS sent out David’s Appliance Services. It went great. The claim was resolved and today we received the check for the reimbursement. They told us upfront that we'd get the check in about three weeks and that was how long it took to get it. I would've liked it to be sooner though, considering that I had to put it on my credit card and I already paid my credit card bill since it was the last day before the new statement came out.
Other than that, from the time that we’ve had AHS, they have almost doubled in monthly premium pricing and the warranty covers less than before because we kept getting the changes before we renew annually. That is something to look into. But that’s happening everywhere and everyone is trying to cut money somewhere. All in all, we’ve been pretty satisfied with American Home Shield and we’ve always told people, especially if they're buying a home, to keep the warranty after the fact because you never know when things would break down once your insurance has expired.

I was able to talk with a representative, Mariah, who helped find a good and expediant solution to my problems. She was kind and patient in helping me understand the process, and gave me a direct phone number and email so I could deal with the same person instead of needing to continuously re-explain everything to new people every time. She also helped me get the most coverage that I could for my expenses. I give Mariah a 5 star rating. I still give AHS three stars for all the run around they gave me before. But at least they care enough to respond and help those who had bad experiences. Thank you Mariah!

Our water heater stopped working and had leaking pipes on Friday morning. We have an old Apollo heating and cooling system in which the water heater is part of what heats the house. So we are without heat in 30-40 degree weather, and with no running water due to the pipe leaks. Called AHS and they sent out a guy who said it all needed to be replaced. But their company could not do it because they don't work on our weird system. AHS then transferred our work order to someone else, without telling us. I called AHS and then they told me who our contractor was, but when I called them they said they don't work on our system either. So I told AHS and they looked for someone else.
The next contractor they transferred us to also did not work on our system. Sunday morning I called AHS again to find out what the plan was, as they never communicate so I have to constantly call for updates, and asked them if I could please use my own guy because it's now been two days of no heat or running water and they still have no one to help us. That guy said to call back later because it has to be 24 hours since the last contractor work order was cancelled before they could authorize an outside contractor.
So I called later. But all this guy said is that they would email some contractor relations department to find me a contractor, and to call back tomorrow! All I get is constant run around and no one seems to care that we are cold and have no running water!! This is ridiculous! What if it was January and 5 degrees outside?! They are not worth the hassle and frustration to get their coverage, which when we replaced our air conditioning system, didn't even pay for 1/4 of the cost of that! I am definitely not renewing this contract!
Good morning Sarah,
I understand your concerns about the delay in service that has been experienced to have your water heater repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

Last month, the thermostat of our AC wasn't turning on. It wasn't getting any power. Right Tech Heating and Air, the contractor that AHS sent out, said that there was a fuse that had gone off, that was why it wasn't working. But I felt they took advantage of my wife because she was there by herself and charged her an exuberant amount for a recharging fee to recharge the unit, and it was a lot more than I had anticipated. We contacted them, but they made some excuse that something wasn't working and that all the Freon leaked out. But they never told me what they fixed so the Freon wouldn't leak out again. They just gave me the runaround on that.
I also had issue with the heater. The first technicians that came out said that they only do air conditioning and they don't do heating at all. So, I had to make another appointment and the exact same two technicians that was there the first time came out the second time. But I was there and they said they'd fix it. Why didn't they fix it the first time? And then, a third technician had to come out because there was a part that they didn't have, so they had to order it. And then, the third technician came out and fixed the heater. There was no extra charge for the second and the third visit. I was just peeved that when they were out the first time, they told my wife that they don't do heating and that they only do air conditioning when it was all one unit. They were giving her an excuse. When I got home, she said she ended up paying 600 bucks.
I was there the second and third time because I didn't want something weird to go on or my wife can't feel bad, because she felt bad the first time and she was apologizing to me, and that made me feel bad that she had to apologize to me for having that done. They gave me a receipt and it said $400 something for the labor and another $200 for cleaning. I have a few friends that are air conditioning technicians and I've talked to them. When I told them that the contractor just cleaned the unit outside, they said, "$200 tune-up is way too much." The contractor still haven't told me what they fixed for the $600 that we paid for, and that's when I called back.
I told AHS about it. I told them that I even called them up because I had to call back to have another technician come out for the heating part. They said they'll look into it and I haven't gotten a response at all. I was reading the contract and I understand that we're gonna have to pay $10 per gallon or per pound for the Freon and anything after that, it's our responsibility. But they took advantage just to make money and their receipt didn't say what they did. So far, both the heater and the air conditioner are working. The overall easiness wherein I call, I get text, I get emails, they were really good on that part. The problem is just the price. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Originally, the garage door wouldn’t close. It would go almost down, and then it would bump back up again. So the following morning, my husband went and looked at it, and he saw the cable. It looks like it had broke off. We called AHS and they dispatched the Overhead Door people out, which I got a call from. They set up an appointment and came out, and the guy fixed it. It turned out the cable had snapped off the springs. He was really good and fast. And then, we noticed that evening after the tech left that the garage door wasn’t closing all the way down. There was an inch or so gap on the bottom. So I called the Overhead Door company back and they set up an appointment to have the tech come back out. They gave AHS the info and the tech was dispatched to come back out. He spent 15-20 minutes here, fixed it, and it has been working fine.
When I submit claims, I normally call AHS and give them the info over the phone. I usually don’t have my contract number, because it’s a different contract every year and I don’t keep track of it. They'd assign a contract number and they'd tell me, “Okay, we’re gonna go ahead and get somebody out there to see what’s going on.” And it wasn’t usually very long. I'd hear from somebody back in 24-48 hours. We’ve had bad issues with contractors not diagnosing problems the correct way or occasionally, over-selling, trying to get us to buy something that we don’t need.
In 2010, when our heater went out, I called AHS and their contractor did an attempt to fix it. It didn’t work. I called AHS again. So there was another attempt to fix it. But it still didn’t work. Third try, still another attempt. It still didn’t work. And mind you, it was in the 20s here in the high desert. We were having a huge cold spell, and I had a house full of people. My son and grandkids were staying with us. Finally, one guy came out and said that my plenum is cracked. He said that I’ve got to shut the whole system down because it was leaking gas. He called AHS at that point and they said, “You gotta send me that email, and let us know,” which he did. “In the meantime, you need to call the gas company, and have the gas company out.” I called the gas company and they red-tagged the furnace. It took almost two months before we had a new operating furnace system here in the house. They fought me all the way, which was ridiculous.
Our AHS experience is sometimes good, sometimes it’s not. That’s the problem. Here’s the way AHS works, and most of them do work. The idea is to save AHS money. So if they can come out and they can fix rather than replace, even if it’s an old piece of equipment, they’re gonna fix rather than replace, because they don’t wanna spend the money. So when the garbage disposal got jammed, it was unjammed rather than get a replacement on it.
Barabra,
I am glad that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. I apologize that it took two attempts and I understand how that may have negatively impacted your experience. We look forward to providing better service in the future.

We bought an older home that was remodeled, and having the AHS warranty gives us a little peace of mind knowing that if anything happens within this next year, we can call somebody to come fix it. I called AHS for what seemed to be a gas leak, and I got an email or a text that I will get a call from the contractor within 24 hours, which they did. And then, they came out when they said they were gonna come. The guy was late, but he called to say he was going to be late. So, communication was great. He put out some sealant, some kind of green stuff, and he said it would expose if there was a leak. I still smell the gas, but he said it’s nothing to worry about. And I trust his professional judgment.

We had an issue with the ice maker. The contractor replaced several parts and it just never would start making ice. He only works on Thursdays. He is the ice maker guru and he stayed booked weeks in advance and that's been part of the delay. We actually turned in our first service call on July 11th so it's four months last October. It has been a long time, which is not normal for American Home Shield.
Finally last month, the contractor declared it dead and jumped through the hoops to get a replacement. AHS gave us three options. They would either ship us one that they deemed to be or replacement which is the same thing we had, just a newer model, or we could pick one and they would allow so much if we're willing to upgrade, or they would just declare it dead and send us a flat amount which is over two grand, and we could deal with it as we pleased, replace it or go on vacation. We want an ice maker and so it has been ordered. I got an email Monday from a lovely lady that's taking care of it and it should be delivered in the next 7 to 10 working days. Then she called me and she's already got me on the installation list for next week. The people who are gonna install it are also the ones who had been trying to repair it.
My husband is so tired of going to the convenience store and buying ice two or three nights a week. It's a hassle as we don't entertain like we used to. We have an ice maker in the kitchen, but it's an old refrigerator and it does not make enough ice even for our use, let alone if we have people over. It's been getting cranky and we just decided to wait 'til the summer when we won't entertain much to try to get it replaced. Not having an ice maker has been a minor inconvenience but not anything we couldn't deal with. As long as the ice maker could come in before Thanksgiving, I would be a happy camper. If it’s all gonna be taken care of in the next week or 10 days, we’re pleased.
We've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and in those years, they had replaced at least one ice maker in the refrigerator, air conditioner on the upstairs, a hot water heater, a microwave, and a dishwasher. We have nothing but the highest of praise and totally satisfied. I recommend them to anybody buying a house or sell.

The microwave was acting up. If you open the door, the fan would kick on and we were worried that it was radiating. I’ve seen it happen once or twice before where I’ll open it and it looked like it was still going. I would close it and open it again, and it was fine, but once it stopped working again, I called American Home Shield to file a claim. When I did it, I had the wrong number. The rep tried to give me a phone number to connect directly to schedule something and that line didn't work well. I was able to do the claim online and the site was reasonable easy to navigate through but I couldn’t find the paperwork myself to have the data they wanted.
The contractor popped up the front cover, pulled up the circuit board, did a few probes and popped in a new micro switch that he already had with him. Then, it behaved itself. He did it for less than an hour. I joked with him about how much it would’ve cost. We probably saved a little bit of money on the service call versus how much it would’ve cost to call blind, but we didn't know that. I specifically asked and it was $65 just to show up and look at it. He wasn’t there that long, so it probably wouldn’t have been more than 150. Also, he wasn't gonna work out a full detailed billing on that. It was just based on the time, he had a gut feeling.
We’ve had AHS since June and this is the third time we’ve had to call them. The first two were relatively soon after we moved in. We kind of looked around and waited to see what else we had wrong. One of them was for the toilets, which are low flow, so they clog. The contractor looked at it and it would require replacing the toilets. They function and do what they're supposed to do, but they have a limited amount of water, so there’s only so much pressure. We were having problems with the way they work and we have to replace them, which was not covered by AHS because they are technically functioning. There are four bathrooms and at 200 bucks for a toilet plus installation, we started adding up. You don’t drop 1000 bucks, and that’s something you budget and work out. You don’t control that casually.

We couldn't get our heating and air to stay lit. I did a claim online then I talked to a lady from American Home Shield. They couldn't find our house. I think it was because I told them two different ways to go there. The contractor came out that week and he was very prompt. He was very knowledgeable and nice. We liked him. He was there a good while and he got our unit lit up. It's doing good now.

Everything went real good with our HTG claim. The technician from Season Solutions Heating and Cooling got straight to the point, and he fixed whatever it was. He jump-started and I haven't had a problem since. He even asked questions how he was doing, and suggested other items if we wanted it or we needed it, anything else that was happening. They were 24 hours a day, so I was appreciative of how he came up to me.
I called AHS with this claim and they hopped right on it and they sent someone out within 40 minutes. I wasn't satisfied with the day that they scheduled me but when the contractor came out and took care of the situation, I was like, "Whoo, thank you." I will always recommend them if somebody else needed some heating or cooling.

So, AHS had a guy from City Electric come out and he’s the one that discovered that it’s a wire that goes from the box to the spa. He said that they would get back to me, but then I haven’t heard anything since then. My claim has been open for a week now.

The people at Home Shield have been very helpful and their contractors have been wonderful. We had people come out to look at our dishwasher and it was decided that the dishwasher didn't have parts available any longer. And so, we got a new dishwasher and it was installed with no problem at all. I also called last week to have somebody come out and check our heater just for maintenance on it and they were very helpful. I had them install a new thermostat, which was done yesterday, and it went great. The contractors were there when they said they would be there, and did the work just fine.
I have been telling my friends how easy it is with Home Shield and that it's nice not having to worry about things. I've been worried about my husband, who has Alzheimer's, and to think about the air conditioning going out scared me to death. But when the dishwasher flooded, my first thought was, "Ah, I got Home Shield now. I don't have to worry about it."

I can't really blame American Home Shield but the companies they sent out are crappy. I had a problem with my furnace last year and a guy came out whom I paid my $75. Supposedly, he said he fixed it. And of course, it went out again. And so, then I paid another $75 a few days ago, last week. And the guy came out and supposedly fixed it. It worked about maybe 20 minutes after he left, and it hasn't worked since.
Then, I called AHS on Monday and Mason Mechanical came out. The tech said that he replaced a switch. That switch worked for about 15 minutes after he left and it hasn't come back on since. And so now, they're coming back out again and set up another service between 12:00 and 5:00 today, which to me is a very large window, but it's nothing I could do about that. So, nobody fixed it. They put a Band-Aid on it and that's it. And then it goes out when it's cold like now and I had no heat. Basically, I haven't had heat since the weekend. I'm being a little bit redundant 'cause I'm angry and I'm cold. He says, "Okay, fine." They left a great, big window, that is like to me is, it's just so unacceptable to have a window that big. A couple of hours, I can understand it. From 12:00 to 5:00, wow, that's a lot.
The last AHS representative I talked to, I could not understand what the heck he was saying. His accent was so deep and he kept saying, "Excuse me. What?" Finally, he told me, "All right, if you pay for a service charge and..." I guess it was that I have 30 days. I kinda like picked up bits and pieces of what he was saying to me. I'm not gonna say this exactly what he said, but I think he was saying to me, you have a 30-day window to go back, if you have a problem, and they'll come back out and fix it or whatever, and there's no charge, I think. I'm not for sure. That's all I can think right now. 'Cause I couldn't understand him. I don't really know exactly what he was saying to me.
Overall, AHS was there. It's not like, "Hey, listen, we can't help you." I called on the weekend and nobody can do anything but it's not their fault. So, I just left the house and went to stay with a friend. It wasn't a big of a deal. Still, I realized that commercial that comes on TV where the woman says, "Hey, I called American Home Shield and they came right over." I'm like, "Really? Okay." That doesn't work. I'm sure people are thinking, "Listen, it's a service for 24 hours a day or whatever, but it's not like that." You can call 24 hours a day but you're not going to get a service. Nobody's gonna come out here 24 hours a day. That's not gonna happen. Still, AHS did what they were supposed to do and contacted a company and they came out when they could.
Good afternoon Mary,

One of our outlets our outlet was flickering and it would just shut off. I submitted a claim to AHS who then sent Kingdom Electric. Thus far, submitting claims to AHS has been really easy though the time it gets to get approval for something is a bit long. I can do it online or call them and they’re always on the ball with it. For any questions I’ve had, their reps either had the answers or they got back to me pretty quickly with the answers. As for the contractors they send, two of the three that I’ve had contact with had been awesome.
However, there was one contractor that I requested from American Home Shield not to send back out to my house. That contractor came, set an appointment but then was six to eight hours late. Plus, they were not even calling us to tell us that they were gonna be later. When they showed up, they did shoddy work and used an old valve to try to fix our air conditioning. And then, when I asked them why they didn’t call or whatnot, the tech threatened me in my own house. So, I showed him out.
We happy to hear that the warranty is beneficial to you Christopher. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing week.

Their website is fine. However, when I signed up online for the preseason heating check, the people called me but I did not answer. It went to my voicemail, and they didn’t call me back. So, I ended up calling them back five days later and made an appointment. And then they never showed up for the appointment. So then, I had to call back and reschedule the appointment.
I had another issue with the washing machine service request. I did that online and it was supposed to go through Sears, and I never got a phone call. So I went online to see what was going on and to see what the status was, and it said that the contractor was supposed to call. But I wasn’t getting any phone calls. So I called American Home Shield and told them the issue that I wasn’t receiving any communication. They contacted the contractor and made an appointment while I was online. That was a little bit frustrating. But the contractor was totally great. The warranty is extremely valuable. I’ve saved thousands of dollars in this past year when I bought the house. My favorite thing about it is being able to go online and put in service request through that and be able to check on status. I like it. It was just unusual that I had a hiccup with these two service requests last week.

The tech came in and did his job. We chatted a little bit, which went very nice. The repair took less than an hour and he was gone. I had one toilet that the flange was loose, so the tech had to tighten all that stuff down. Now everything works great. And then another toilet ended up being broken so we're scrapping that toilet altogether and I'm getting a new one. I assumed I would pay for it and that's just what I was planning on doing.

I have an OE code on the dishwasher. I did a claim online and American Home Shield's website was fine. I was that somebody would contact me in 24 hours, but they didn’t. It was 48 hours. The contractors' service was fine, but they didn’t fix the problem. They replaced a part, but the dishwasher is still throwing OE codes. I don’t know what the OE code represents, but sometimes it completes a cycle and sometimes it doesn’t. I haven’t had an opportunity to call Jones back to have them come out and take a look at it again because they told me to do that if it continued to throw codes. It just started doing it this weekend about four days after they put the new part in.
American Home Shield is fine from a standpoint that they covered the stuff. There’s a $125 service charge for the claim just like they said. Although they did not inform me that my monthly fee was gonna go up once I made a claim. The very next monthly payment went from 47.99 to 51.99. We’re not really happy with that. Also, I’m not really thrilled that they sent out Jones Appliance who was 20 miles away from me. There are other appliance places that are closer, but Jones did a fine job. It's just that the part they replaced didn’t fix the problem. So now, they gotta come back out and look at it again.

I kept saying I needed someone to come out after 4:00, but they gave me someone who would not come out. I kept calling them and asked if they could give me someone else. They said they couldn't. I really don't like that and I might even switch to another company. If you are trying to be customer service oriented and you know most of your customers work, then you should have some vendors that will come out after work hours or on the weekends.
I had to have a day off from work to get the repair done and that was two weeks after I called. I was given a four-hour window and the rep said they'd call before they come. I said that doesn't help if I'm in a classroom because I can't walk out. The rep said, "When something is important to you." I said, "Hold on a minute. I know I'm over the phone, but that isn't how we talk to adults." My last two experiences with AHS in three years have not been positive. They're not a bad company, but they weren't very customer-friendly and that's gonna make them look like a bad company. Other than that, everything else about AHS is good.

In the summer, Next Gen came out and fixed our air conditioning again. Then when it got cold and we turned the heat on, we’ve got no heat. Next Gen installed a new compressor with no heat pump on it. So, we couldn’t even generate heat. It was par for the American Home Shield course. So Millennial HVAC came out, and there wasn’t anything they could do because they certainly wasn’t prepared for that. So, I need to call AHS. It’s been on my list every day to call them and let them know what happened and see if they are gonna fix something like it should be for a change. We had nothing but horrible problems with American Home Shield.
They won’t allow the people to fix it like it should be because they don’t want to spend the money. I think that the contractors’ hands are tied because American Home Shield won’t let them fix anything more than $200, so they cost us thousands and thousands of dollars. Every time they came out, they had to put bandaids on top of bandaids instead of fixing the real problem. Plus every time we have an AC unit issue or a leaking coolant or refrigerant, they tell us initially, “Well, you’re not leaking.” Refrigerant doesn’t just disappear. And then they come and put a bandaid on the coil and it costs us a grand to fill it full of Freon and in two months it happens again. We pay another grand for Freon, and this has been going on for years.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

I’ve liked the fact that I call American Home Shield and they’ll get somebody out to me. It’s been pretty simple to deal with. The contractors have been fine as well. This last instance, I called AHS about a leak under my kitchen sink and it turned out to be something that wasn’t covered under my warranty. And instead of telling me that upfront, they went ahead and let me pay my $75. And when the the plumber got out there to fix it, they had to call in. It wasn’t covered, but nobody refunded my $75. I would've thought that they would've told us that upfront when we called it in, but that’s the only instance I’ve had a problem with it.
Humphrey,
I certainly apologize that it was not clear that the item was not covered. The request was entered online, but those are questions that we can confirm for you when the request is entered over the phone, via chat, or if you speak with an agent prior to the technician coming out to avoid this situation in the future. My problems are still not fixed but American Home Shield is doing what they can. I have two claims with them, and neither of them are fixed yet. They’ve had two different plumbers come out for the leak that’s outside. They’re very professional and very timely. They replaced the pressure regulator. But now, they think it may have been a faulty one, so now, they have to replace it again. So, a service person is supposed to be coming out today.
The initial guy that came out was great, and he was very helpful. The leak is outside of the building, and it’s from the pressure release valve. And so, he changed the valve. That didn’t work. So, then he changed the actual pressure regulator. He said maybe that’s gone faulty, and that actually made things worse. And that’s when the guy that did all of that said, “You know, I really don’t know what else I can do.” He was kinda stumped. He didn’t know what to do. So, they sent in a different person, and he came in yesterday morning. He checked it, put in his pressure thing, and he said that the new regulator is not working properly. And he said, “I can’t change it because whoever changed it supposedly bought a new one, and they need to go wherever they bought it and get a refund and get a new one,” which made sense to me. The problem is every time this happens, I have to stay home between 11:00 and 5:00.
Usually, I leave but I'm staying home today because the first plumber said he’ll come today. But he hasn’t given me a time yet either. So, I’m stuck at home. I told him, “You know what, call me by noon. I would be home until noon anyway." But I also said, “If you can’t make it by noon, call me and let me know exactly what time you can make it, and I’ll make sure I get back home.” I’m just running errands. At this point, I’m not gonna go to work. It’s just little things. But I don’t know if that’s any of the insurance’s fault.
The garage door claim has been going on for a long time too. I’m not entirely sure what’s going on with the garage door thing. I have to call AHS and find out because I didn’t fully trust the technician that came out. He said six different things like, “Oh, I have to replace this, and it’ll work.” This has been going on for almost a month and a half. And he replaced something, and it didn’t work. Then he came back and replaced some other part, and it worked for a few days, and then it stopped. Then he said he had to order a part. He was here yesterday, and I heard him kinda arguing with AHS because he was saying that he’s replaced every single piece of this equipment and nothing is working and that we should get a new one, and that it’s not worth trying to fix anymore at this point. I heard him saying that over the phone, and then he hung up.
I talked to him, and then he said, “Well, it’s going to cost you though. Even though it has a lifetime warranty, I talked to the home insurance, and they’re gonna want you to get the newer model. And the newer model is more expensive, so you’re gonna have to pay the difference.” So, I started asking him just out of curiosity how much the whole unit will be. He said it’s really expensive and that I'm gonna have to talk to AHS. And then he said, “But I’ll come back. Whatever they give you, with an additional $200, I’ll put a new one.” I thought, “What do you mean whatever they give me?” And he said, “It might a couple of days for you to call them and talk to them.” So, it kinda went back-and-forth like that.
AHS hasn’t contacted me yet. They were on the phone with him, but they didn’t contact me. The service person kept telling them, “I’m not gonna replace any more components of this because I’ve replaced all the major components, and if it’s not working, that means it’s just dead.” So, I plan on giving AHS a call today and seeing what their decision is and how they’re gonna handle it.
The contractors have been very professional and very nice. And they all seem to be doing their best. It maybe that these two jobs that I’m working on are things they never really handled or it’s just a fluke. I had a different home warranty last year, and AHS has been much more responsive and quick. I call, and I can get through to a live person. For both of these requests, immediately, once I put them in the computer, someone called me within a few hours. That never happened with the other home insurance. It would go days before anybody would call me. AHS has been very good about sending messages through the phone in terms of, “Technician is on their way. They’ll be here in 15 minutes.” Things like that have been very helpful. And I got none of that paying more for the other home warranty.
I’ve been very happy because, at least, I feel like when I try to get a hold of someone, or when I have an issue, they’d respond. Even with these things, they immediately sent somebody else to come check it. The initial plumber came in the next day. He called me that day, and he came in the following day. That was very quick. And with the garage, they gave me some options, but I was working so it didn’t work for me. And for me, the garage not opening was not a big emergency, so I told them I would rather do it on a Friday, and they accommodated me for that. The plumber called right away and came right away.
I had one other claim with AHS with my faucet. It was very minor. It was leaking in the kitchen underneath. And the same plumber came for that and fixed it in 15 minutes, and that was great. In some ways, I’ve learned that the home warranty is not for big emergencies. I have my own plumber, and if water was gushing out of somewhere, I would probably just call my own plumber and have him check it. But I’d like to have AHS as a backup for things that come up that aren’t emergencies. And I’m happy they’re responding.

One of the defrost units of my refrigerator went out and the refrigerator freezer was freezing up in the back. It cooled down both whole sides. I filed a claim and I knew Fletcher's Home Appliance & Service Center was gonna come out. The tech had done some work for me previously, the month before, where I had some brackets that hold the shelves in place that broke over time and he replaced them. And so, after getting online, I called their office and told them that there was a claim in there for that, that it wasn't no shelf brackets, and it was the refrigerator that wasn't working. So, he made room for me, came right on out there that afternoon, and was out here in about two hours time. He fixed the defrost or heating element part and everything's going fine now. We had a plumber come out through AHS for my bathroom in my bedroom. This company was a little further away, but that’s who AHS had a contract with. Also, we had the times wrong. They had told me that they would come between 2:00 and 6:00. The plumber called me at 11 o'clock in the morning saying that he would be at my place in 40 minutes. The truck he came in had no signage and he was a little scruffy-looking. So I said that before I would let him in my house, I would need to see proof of who he was. He showed me his driver's license and a business card without his name on it. He was professional in the way he acted, went upstairs and did his thing. The clog was drained and he put a plastic thing down that I could have done myself. He took out what was down there and poured some stuff in. Initially, I was a little nervous but that was unfounded. He couldn’t be more polite.

I had a claim for the garage door where AHS sent out a tech from Smokey’s. Being an engineer, I know a lot about a lot of things and I had a great time with that kid. He explained everything and what was wrong. It was hard to find the type of battery it takes to open the garage door from the outside, but I managed. The only thing is, he used WD-40 for a lubricant and that really isn’t meant as a lubricant. The kid said he knew that but it was not his choice and he doesn't own the company. Other than that, I was totally satisfied with his service.
At the moment, I have an ongoing claim on the air-conditioning that I’m really unhappy about. I wasn't home all summer and that thing was set at 85 degrees and running. When I came home, I turned it down to 80 and three hours later, it hadn’t changed. It was not working at all, so I called AHS. The tech that they sent out checked both ends but he never found the leak. He wanted to put 8 pounds of Freon in at over 800 bucks to check for the leak, but I know a lot about pressurizing systems and looking for leaks, and that’s not how you check for leaks. You put a gauge on, you pressurize it with nitrogen, and see if it holds air. That tells me that that air-conditioning company doesn’t know how to do work. Why would AHS use somebody who'd do that instead of pressurizing it with nitrogen? Nitrogen doesn’t cost anything.
Right now, they’ve replaced both ends of the unit and we don’t know if I have a leak. But all the Freon was missing out of it and that tells you there’s a leak. Plus, it’s an R-22 unit. Come January, you’re not gonna be able to get R-22 anyhow. So, I ended up paying $6,000 and change for this thing and I shouldn’t have to pay anything. But the technician told me that no matter what, Home Shield will never replace it. That was interesting. These people work for them and that was not what I wanted to hear. I’ll call American Home Shield again and bug them about this. As a matter of fact, there’s no reason for me to have American Home Shield anymore because everything inside the house is brand new now. I only got the policy because of the air-conditioning and based of my experience, I’m dissatisfied with AHS.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

I had somebody come in and fix the garbage disposal. While I was doing the paperwork, when I asked for service, I saw that AHS was having an offer for service, to service the heater for $75. I’ve been in the house for two years and I’ve never done it before. I know the unit is about 10 years old so I had it serviced before it’s damaged. I went online and filed a claim to AHS and the tech guy came over to service it. I didn't want to have a problem with the heater, that’s why I had it serviced. Otherwise, you’d have to pay an arm and a leg.
Prior to that, I had the garbage disposal fixed. It hasn’t worked since I moved in. I called AHS and the guy that came over said that there were pieces of rubber inside of the garbage disposal and it needed to be replaced. I said okay. I knew it was something that needed to be fixed and I know a garbage disposal costs about $100. But the tech said that AHS would never give me any claim for it. I told him to just have it done. I paid $100 for the call and $225 for the garbage disposal. So, it’s a bit too much. But the guy was here, he didn't make a hassle and just worked. I accepted the cost because I wanted a new garbage disposal, so it was done. The new one was put in the same day that the tech came over, Friday, the 25th of October. And the installer was extremely nice. Both of the guys that have come here have been extremely nice.
So far, my experience with AHS has been good. I pay AHS $49.99 a month and they charge $100 for somebody to come, so it’s $150. Plus 225 for the garbage disposal, that was a lot of money. But the $75 to service a heater plus the $49 a month was a good deal. My main concern is the air conditioner. What if that thing breaks? That’s gonna be about five grand. Before summer starts, I’m gonna have it serviced because we need to have things working.

We've had American Home Shield for years. I was amazed at their service from the start, and so I've stayed with them. In fact, I've signed up a few other people. I have encouraged others too, especially when we get to be older and by ourselves. It's really nice to have the backup, so to speak. I like having somebody come out within hours. I've not had a call, a need, that wasn't met to my satisfaction. When we first got it, we have purchased the house and it needed some redoing. I told AHS on the phone, "I first heard about you but, guess what, they don't even come out and inspect the house." The rep said, "Nope, that's fine. You get it." And they replaced several appliances, upgraded parts and repaired things in that house and that amazed me. I thought, you're gonna have to have AHS come out, look and see what the damages already are before they insure you for fixing stuff. But they said, that's the way they do it, so it was really nice.
Most of the contractors that came out were very happy to be working for AHS and they, in turn, tell me how to use the system best. Like recently, I had the garage door issue. When I learned what was wrong with it, I knew it wasn't covered by AHS. But the gentleman that was talking to me said if he finds something else, that will be covered by AHS. And I got a little better rate because he came through them. And the guy who came out for the washing machine said, "Normally, they don't let me rebuild them." He then called AHS and said, "This is a good machine." It was a Maytag and AHS let him rebuild it. And it took him three days coming out and working after he got parts, and AHS approved it and my washer was fixed instead of having to get another one, which would have been a lesser quality had they bought a new one for me. So, I thought that was another good thing.

I’ve been a customer of American Home Shield on and off for many years. I had them in Chesterfield, Virginia and Midlothian, Virginia for seven years. There was a period of time with American Home Shield where they started putting in these people who didn’t speak English and I have never had so much frustration with people who did not understand me. I would ask them a question and they would read off this answer that didn’t answer my question. It looked like they were reading out of a book because they didn’t know what I was saying. When I made a claim for the garage door, I waited five days, nobody came, and I couldn’t open or close the door. I had to do it manually.
A certain lady gave me authorization to find my own contractor, so I did and he came out and told me what I had to do. He was so good. He did the job, and he charged me 460 bucks but it took AHS a long time to give me my money back. I had to keep calling them because they said I needed to fax a piece of paper to so and so who replied and said they didn't have that paper, and I was not even supposed to send it there. The reps didn't know what they were talking about because someone told me one thing, then someone else is telling me another thing. I even have a confirmation on my fax machine that what I sent came through.
It was a terrible experience and I was so frustrated. I was really mad, but they did send the check. I had to call person, after person to finally get someone who cared and who could actually talk to me. They must’ve gotten all kinds of complaints, so I haven’t had that problem since and other than that, every other experience with AHS has been for me 100%. They’re fantastic and everyone they’ve sent to me has been amazing. Everyone’s been very professional, done a good job, in and out, and no problems afterwards.

For example, when I had an issue with plumbing, it took a long time to get someone to fix it. Other than that, other types of services have been relatively quick.

Kintex Plumbing came out for AHS and the tech fixed our plumbing. The issue was the switch in our heater and the guy who worked on it was great. He was on time and came within the window that AHS guys gave me. He wanted to come earlier but I couldn't. Also, the issue was my mistake and he was lovely. He even told me that he was sorry that he had to come all the way to my location. Everything went well.

The faucet in the guest bathroom upstairs in the shower wouldn’t turn off. So I had to go outside and shut the water off. I called American Home because the water would have gone down through the floor downstairs, on the ceiling. AHS went out of their way. The first plumbing company couldn’t do it until the following Thursday, and I couldn’t leave the water in the house off for three to four days. So, the claims rep said, “Let me put you on a hold for just two minutes, I’ll check a couple more places and see if we can get one over the emergency today.” So she came back on the line and said, “I got a plumbing company that’ll be over there between 12:00 and 1:00.” And they got here about 12:30, which was great.
The technician was a super nice guy. He went upstairs, went into the bathroom and took off the faucet. He knew what it was right off the bat. It was the cartridge in it that had gone bad and the cold and hot water wouldn’t shut off. He pulled it out, put the cartridge in and put it back on and tightened it, and had me get down to turn on the water. He tried it to see if it was leaking or anything, and it wasn’t. So, it was fixed. And it didn’t take him more than 15 minutes. He really knew what he was doing. I referred AHS to others a couple of times.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Gary. I'm glad that we were able to resolve your faucet issue. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

I just went over a year this month and renewed with American Home Shield last month because they were good up until the incident with Southern Comfort. They came out, did an inspection, found a couple things and called American Home Shield back. I told AHS that I needed them to come back out again but they said they couldn't send them as they were not available. They only got May. I said, “No. I just talked to Southern Comfort and they said they were available and said they can come out any time.” So, I cancelled the work order ‘cause they had set it up with May. I said that I want Southern Comfort. American Home Shield's rep said that they couldn't get them and asked if May would be okay. I said, “No, I won’t be. But if you’re gonna make me take them, I’ll take them.” And so, it went back and forth.
I called Southern Comfort, and they said they would call AHS to say they're available. They also told us to call American Home Shield's dispatch line but the current wait was 15 to 30 minutes. I called Southern Comfort back and said that I refuse to wait. They said, they'd take care of it. That’s been three or four days ago and I haven’t heard from Southern Comfort or American Home Shield since then.
AHS could improve on their communication big time. If they sent out one company to do an inspection on my heater, then that company should be the company that comes back out. They’re the ones that found the errors, not some other company. I haven’t called American Home Shield nor Southern Comfort back yet, and my heater still needs to be fixed. But I’m still not saying anything bad about American Home Shield ‘cause they’ve always taken care of us.

The baseboard heater sparked when I turned it on. I filed the claim over the phone. It was a recording and I never spoke with a person. The contractors called on time however the first ones that were dispatched didn’t have to come because the recording got wrong information somehow. It didn’t understand what I said and it sent the wrong company to call. Actually, the company told me that they couldn’t service it so they called American Home Shield and told them the issue. Then the Chaney company was dispatched and they came on time. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the services I've received so far. I would tell others that I'd purchase American Home Shield again.

The dishwasher wouldn’t power on so I filed a claim online and the website was very easy to navigate through. It's good for me because I am very busy with work. I need to be able to access it from any place. I received a text message and it also had the name of who was coming. I like that notification because I work full time, but my daughter’s the substitute. It allowed me an opportunity to navigate her work schedule to be home for her to take place. The dishwasher was fixed quick. And when the contractor knew that I had a short timeline from work to a basketball game, he fit it into his schedule to get it done for us. We’ve only used the dishwasher once and I think because of the new installation, it had like that burnt smell. But the dishes themselves were clean and working.

The AC company Home Shield assigned to me was horrible. My thermostat was broken and when the tech first came he offered to put a very cheap $25 thermostat. My thermostat cost around $600, which came with the AC unit when we bought it at Costco. On the second time, he came with a thermostat and tried to fix it but it was a wrong thermostat. Third time, he came without a bag and it was still the wrong thermostat. Fourth time, he spent an hour and a half trying to put the thermostat, and he said that was still not the right one. We had to order it, which would take three to five business days, and it’s more than 10 days now. I called the company yesterday and they said I need to submit a new claim. I'm very upset. I heard the review on this AC company is very bad, 1-star review. Home Shield needs to be careful with their contractors.

Worst customer service EVER. This company is set up to profit, which means, they do not pay out, and will look for every excuse not to. Within two years, they "replaced" my evaporator coil twice, and when it broke the third time, again only offered replacement of the part, not to replace the 12 year old unit. Instead, I opted for the cash out of $690, but ha, ya, umm.. of course they every excuse not to pay this. Did I mention that every time they replaced the coil, I had to pay $600 out of pocket for freon, in addition to the $125 service call? Wicked scammers, this company. You are so much better off paying for repairs out of pocket. Save the premiums and bank them to cover repairs the right way.

AHS is a complete ripoff! They denied my claim for my washing machine which I purchased new as a set with a dryer, because they said it was “overused”!!! I’m 100% permanent & total rated USMC veteran, who lives alone, and does maybe a load of laundry a week; so there is no way my washer was EVER overused! I scraped together what little “extra” I had to purchase a policy since I am unemployed and looking for work that can accommodate my disability, and this is the SECOND time I was denied coverage! BUYER BEWARE! They will use any and every loophole to get out of paying a claim! And then send one of “their” service companies for a “2nd opinion” that the CONSUMER has to PAY for, and which ultimately works in supporting their unfounded determination!

I am on week 4 without a refrigerator. I have been a AHS customer for years and have had a few very successful interactions. However, companies are not defined by how they handle things when everything is perfect, they are defined by how they handle circumstances when something goes wrong. AHS sent a contractor to my home to repair a refrigerator. They came out, in 5 days, and diagnosed the problem and ordered parts. I was alerted when the parts came in, 9 days later. I called contractor multiple times to schedule repair without response. I got AHS customer service involved and, frankly, they were no help. Each time I called, they attempted to contact the contractor, sent him a sternly worded email, and told me they would follow up.
I am now 24 days without a refrigerator, called AHS and requested a change in contractor since they are not responding to either me or AHS's repeated requests. I was told by AHS that they are having difficulty approving the contractor change because parts were ordered and I may be responsible for any restocking fee on parts. WOW! They hire a bad contractor and want to stick me with the fees. Meanwhile, AHS continues to charge my credit card monthly and I am going out to my garage every morning to get a gallon of milk. At least their billing department is efficient.

I've been with American Home Shield since 2010 thinking they were honest and truthful about standing by their words and thinking they subcontract the best contractors in my surrounding area. This is not the case. Both my HVAC units have been running out of freon for years. They never conducted a leak test. It always happen in the spring.
We had a problem with our unit again this Year about the same time I called for service. My family was burning up. Meaning it was 90 degrees in our home. They couldn't come till three days later so I call a local contractor to check our units out. They put freon in it. Cost me $160 dollars. I ask about the freon and how american home shield sent contractors out almost every year about this issue. The tech said, "Sir you are being rob hvac units. Do not leak this. Should have been resolve years ago. With your unit being old you should it should have had a leak test. It usually takes 1hour or longer." Explain this never ever happen. I have the records. All receipts to prove it!!
I have cancel our contract with them. I have broken items right now. It's cheaper to fix ourselves. Meaning having a local contractor who is honest. We have pay $75.00 for a service fee and when the repairman arrive he have a $4.00 part that I waited on for a week. I have receipts! Yes they got a us new washer but after failed attempts and $75 service fees and the money I paid over the-years they should have, cause basically after you have paid for service fees and 50+ dollars in monthly contract fees you really paid for your own stuff.
As I talk with some local services they said, "We don't deal with american home shield", I see why. They they are dishonest. We made a complaint to them about our units. They said the representatives you never ever got the same one, they would give us a call!. It's been a number of months but two days ago they call and said I owed $107 dollars. Wow. We were blown away and immediately cancel our contract which they auto renew without your consent and then harass you. I still haven't received any document or email stating consolation but I have a recording stating that and what was said. This warranty is useless and not worth the time or effort. You would do better putting money into an account of your own so if something breaks you can replace it or have it repaired properly the first time.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

The first time Blue Ridge came, the gentleman changed the washer from the faucet in the master bedroom. He also changed the flap and one of the inside mechanisms from the toilet. He was well-behaved and the attitude was positive. That night, I noticed when I came back from work that it sounded like someone was taking a shower. I was ignoring it because I thought it was my wife. But when I went upstairs, she was still sound asleep and it was that the toilet was running. I also noticed that the faucet had small drips still. So that's when I called and I made the claim again to let them know.
They came over for the faucet, the second time. The gentleman told my wife that it was not the washer and that the cartridge from the Moen faucet needed to be replaced. He said that he was gonna take a picture of it, he was gonna send it to me through text, and that I was to get with Moen in order to get it for free, the cartridge. I never received the text. I called to make the claim, just wanting to know what's going on. I tried to call Blue Ridge directly. They answered and I was talking to them and they just hung up. I called again and they were saying that they couldn't hear me and they hung up again. My wife called and no one answered. It’s my first time experience with AHS and I would think that this would be taken care of appropriately.

We had American Home Shield's contractor come out because of a pipe that was not connected and we didn’t know. We had already been living in the house for two weeks, and all of the kitchen sink and the laundry water was dumping out in the crawlspace. I had washed four loads of clothes the day before and all that crap was going underneath my house and I just bought it. So I was pissed. I don’t know how it passed the inspection.
American Home Shield had it down as a drainage stoppage at first, and I had to call and fix it. They didn’t really have the option online for me to say it was an actual leak. Their contractor came and fixed it, and then everything’s perfectly fine. It was unfortunate but I’m glad it’s now fixed. And I appreciate American Home Shield's punctuality in getting the job done.

The contractor that American Home Shield sent out fixed my toilet but there was an additional problem with it that they haven’t fixed yet. They were supposed to do a rough patch to my kitchen because they made a hole through my kitchen and nobody has gotten in touch with me to do that. The toilet flooded about three weeks ago, but I was able to turn the water off in time. But I wasn’t home when it first flooded. My daughter called me and I had to hurry to get home. By the time I got home, the water came through my kitchen. So, I called American Home Shield and told them this, and they said that it was covered, but nobody has reached out to me yet. I’m a little annoyed with it, especially with all the money that I’ve been paying every month for this service.
When I made my claim, I told the representative, and he then told me to turn the water off. I got the water turned off, but I had another situation with my washing machine. I’m a single parent, so I can’t afford to take two different days off. I tried to schedule both visits on the same day, which was a week ago and they came last Wednesday. I told the plumber that it got flooded here and that it came down on my kitchen. I showed him a hole in my kitchen, which went all through my lights. Apparently, the contract that I got covers all of that, and I called American Home Shield and asked them about that, and what I got back from them was, “We’re waiting for the submittal from the plumber.” Which I don’t understand that because he was there Wednesday. I just need that ceiling and my light fixed, especially if I’m paying for the service.
I haven’t heard from anyone about the kitchen. About the washing machine, they told me they’d be giving me a new washing machine, but they did say it takes five business days for them to reach out to me. I already got approved on Friday, so I’m not gonna really worry too much about it until this Friday. If I don’t hear from them this Friday, then I’m gonna make a phone call. Nevertheless, both contractors that came out were good. I thoroughly appreciated both of them. The first one was really cool, he fixed my problem really quick. The second one was very knowledgeable about my washing machine. He said that there’s so many things that was wrong with it and that it was unrepairable, and he recommend a brand new one. So, I was happy about that. But AHS has not finished my claim yet and I’m not happy about nobody reaching back out to me for my kitchen.
In the three years that I’ve had American Home Shield, I only used them four times. Some experiences were very, very bad. I had one situation that they sent a air conditioning guy to my house to fix my unit, and he forgot or neglected to put a certain cap on one of my hoses, and it completely flooded up my basement. I had a outside contractor that come out, I asked, “Why did I get this flooded?” He said, “Oh, the guy who came to work for the thing didn’t the cover this hole.” And American Home Shield said they assume no responsibility for it. So, I was pissed off about that.
I also had another guy come out a year later for the same problem, for my air conditioner, and he was supposed to do something and the water shot up into the air and flooded out my laundry room. And again, American Home Shield assumed no responsibility for it, which I don’t understand. From what they were telling me, all they could do is get the contractors over there, it’s the contractor’s business, not theirs. And I don’t understand that.

It took a couple of days more before I was able to finally make a claim, but the lady that took my information was really nice. I had two guys from IGD Plumbing go out and they were very nice as well. I just haven’t had the chance to give them a call. I need to contact them about the piece of sheetrock in the ceiling as I don’t know if they send someone else to fix that. I made a claim with American Home Shield and they had contracted Sears to come out. Sears waited two days then contacted me via text, not even a phone call, and said they won't be out until November 6th, which was 13 days later. My fridge did not work. I did not need to wait 13 more days on top of the 2 I already waited. I called American Home Shield and expressed my concern.
I’ve never had a home warranty, I’ve never used it, and I didn’t know the process. The rep jumped on it and said he would find someone else. You could just tell it was a priority. He tried really hard. It was a time-sensitive situation. He said he would put me on hold for a couple of minutes then he came back. When he said he was going to have to call around and that he would call me back in 30 minutes to an hour, he did. He was good. I just wish his English was better. I struggled with trying to understand him. I’m from Arkansas and maybe that’s the problem, but I’m pretty sure he was not in America.
The rep found Somebody Appliance. Wes was the owner of the company and he communicated with me. It was a spur of the moment for him. He called and said AHS got in touch with him. It was very late in the evening and he was on his way for an installation. It was gonna be his last call but if it was all right with me, he could stop by on his way back. It would be a little bit later than normal, though. I agreed and told him to come because my fridge wasn't working.
He called me a couple of times since then to say he was on his way. It was maybe 6:30 in the evening when he got there. He did whatever he did and he was great. He stayed in contact with me throughout the whole process. He was excellent. As or Sears, I have not spoken a word to an individual from there to this day. They just sent a text message. I'm not really pleased with that.

It was very easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield. I recommend them to everybody I know. I also have a family member who have been with them for years. In most cases, everyone I've talked to has been wonderful. However, I have gotten a girl that does not speak English well. She just couldn't get the problem and that part was frustrating for me. I said to her four times, "I'm asking you how to let you know who my referrals are, so I get credit for this." She said, "Well, ma'am, can you tell me what appliance you're having problems with?" I finally said, "Excuse me, ma'am, do you know what referral means?" She said, "Hold on a moment please." And then I got put on hold.
She does not communicate well. Anyone else I've gotten has done wonderful. It's quite obvious when you're speaking English well. But I've gotten the rep at least twice when I called. Apparently, she takes calls a good amount of time. So that's scary. I'd have to explain to her what a referral is. I don't know if she needs more training or she just doesn't communicate well, maybe with language. I'm not trying to down anybody because I give everybody a shot. On the other hand, the contractor from GE that came out to fix the dishwasher that wouldn't fill up water was great. It took him three minutes to fix it. Had we known what he did, we could've fixed it, because I would love to use my dishwasher again. He explained and showed us what the issue was. He said it's a common problem and he was wonderful.
However, AHS has a large block of time that we have to wait on the contractor. I don't know if that's them or the contractor they're using. I had a block from 8:00 to 5:00. I'm selling mobile homes. I could be gone at any time. I just wanna have somebody here. I don't wanna block up a whole eight-hour day to wait for somebody. I called AHS and they said, "You can call the day and track the contractor, and we can give you a time.” When I finally talked to GE that morning, they said between 9:30 and 10:00. It was a little later than that, but I expected that. If the contractor gets tied up on a call, he can't help it. Once I talked to the contractor that morning, he gave me an approximate time. But until then, we were gonna have to figure out when from 8:00 to 5:00 he would be there. I hope they could improve on that.
AHS is far superior as far as I'm concerned. It was a very good experience. There were a couple of glitches, but no big deal. I sell mobile homes every day. I tell every customer, "You are crazy if you don't get a home warranty program." I tell a lot of people about AHS and their referral program gives me credit, so I would like to have the referral. My only problem is to figure out how to get back in to send the referral emails, because my friends wanna get the policy and they're waiting on me to do it. I just couldn't understand what the AHS rep was telling me. It was something like ahs.com/referrals. So I'm still not sure how to do it. I was originally told to call the service number when I asked a question. But when I called the service number, I got that girl and she had to ask how to do it, and that was scary. If I call and I get the same girl, it would get me nowhere.

I have four properties and I have them all with American Home Shield. I always liked to call to submit my claims, but I have started doing it online. It's fairly simple. But I did a claim and there weren't boxes that applied to what I needed fixed. So I just clicked a couple and then the rep asked me about them, and he said they would take care of it. I haven't had a problem thus far. The guy that they sent out for the icemaker was super professional. His name was Philip. He called on the way, fixed the ice maker pretty quickly, and then helped me with one other thing. He had filters for the fridge on his truck, and I needed them. So I was able to buy them from him on the spot.

I've had American Home Shield since we bought this house about seven months ago. AHS came with a glowing review from a very close friend so we chose them. We've had three claims with AHS. One was AC, which we had a great experience. Cote's Mechanical came out and fixed a weak breaker that we had. If I had known what the situation was, I wouldn't have called. But the other two are of very deep concern.
We had a leak in the upstairs bathroom that was from the toilet and it was leaking down into the downstairs ceiling. So, we called AHS. They got a hold of a plumber. In the same claim, I had also noticed that on one of our hot water heaters, we could not get the pilot light to light and generally, those are what they call an igniter pilot sensor that keeps the pilot hot. I self-diagnosed that and knew what the problem was. The leak was minor. It needed a wax ring and it should have been an up and down type thing, which is 150 bucks, just normal service call for something like that. When the guy came out, he wrote up a whole list of stuff and he turned it in to AHS, and it was huge. He turned in a request for $750 and AH denied it.
I paid for $75 for him to come out. So, he has most of the claims denied and they approved him to do a wax ring replacement. I got really upset about the situation. I called AHS and told them it was crazy. I called another plumber out here on my own, had it fixed and it was 156 bucks. Plus, the service call wound up being 190. I said, "You denied the claim because he sent in an erroneous cost." And he did the same thing on the hot water heater. He said that the vent pipe was not installed correctly and it was gonna take $220 to fix that, plus it needed a new burner in the hot water heater and AHS denied that claim as well without even talking to me. So, I had to get both pieces fixed.
I called AHS because at the same time, we had another claim in on a ceiling fan. The ceiling fan is approximately 10-1/2, 11 feet in the air so we had a long discussion about that. My wife told me, "We've got this fan that needs a new receiver unit installed in it because it's remote controlled. We have the receiver unit, so you don't need to order that, but we needed someone to install it." AHS called out an electrician. The guy came out, got his $75, and then turned in the claim and said, "I have to come back because my ladder is not tall enough." And he didn't come back the next day. Their office called back and said, "It's gonna be next week before we can get him out there with the proper ladder, which was a 10-foot ladder." I said, "Okay." And then, we got a bill from AHS saying the claim has been denied.
Again, we paid our $75 and the claim has been denied. The reason it was denied was because the contractor was claiming they were gonna have to put scaffolding up to get up there to the ceiling fan that they had already agreed that they could reach with a 10-foot ladder. They told AHS that but AHS did the denial. So, I'm out $150 on those claims and nothing happened. The one that just took place last week was when AHS told us that there will be someone from their arbitration committee get in touch with us. I said, "Okay. When would that happen?" I was told, "It should be today." That never happened. And so, our experience has been nightmare! But their reps have been very nice and with great response.
Good afternoon Mike,
I have sent you an email and called attempting to reach you to assist with resolving any concerns you may have. If assistance is still needed please do respond at your earliest convenience and I will be happy to partner with you to reach a resolution!

American Home Shield's online process for claims is super easy. I submitted a claim on a Saturday afternoon, and Highland Lakes AC and Heat was here on Monday. They were great. The repair was taken care of on Tuesday. Everything's working well.

So far, American Home Shield has done what they've advertised. I was having issues with my thermostat and everything worked fine when I turned the claim in online. I was told to expect the contractor within 24 hours. The contractor made it right on time and there were no troubles.

Over the years, I've been very satisfied with the American Home Shield technicians or servicemen. They came and did exactly what's requested of them, they didn't take a long time, and they came on time. There was just one where AHS sent someone that I didn't particularly care for. They came trying to push another agenda. The minute they walked in the door, they started telling me they would not pay for this and I had to pay for the one on the outside. And the basic thing for a service contract is that you pay a service fee and everything is covered. I called AHS back and said not to send this company back anymore because I didn't like the way they were talking. They sent someone else and it was fine. Then I file claims online as it's so hard to get them on the phone. I have to wait 40 minutes every time I called. But when I wasn't satisfied, I was determined I was gonna talk to somebody, so I just waited. Overall, I would recommend them.

I got underneath my cabinet and there was water everywhere. I called American Home Shield and I told them that my disposal was leaking and the rep said that it might be a plumbing issue too. So, they put both of them in but I only paid one service call. Tom with The Lindsay Company called 30 minutes before he was there and he came and fixed the issue with the disposal. I had The Lindsay Company twice and aside from this, they helped with my hot water heater that went out and I had absolutely no problems with them. They were phenomenal.
The experience in submitting a claim to AHS is normally good and the only time I’ve ever had an issue with another plumber was when they assigned me a company and I didn’t like that company. AHS automatically assigns vendors and it is like pulling teeth to change it. So, if you know an approved vendor that you want, AHS should give you the opportunity to say who you want and be able to say that you’ve had them once and not to send them back.
I had a double sink in a bathroom upstairs and the house was built in such a way that the right wire wasn’t put in the wall. AHS sent out a plumber and he told me that I needed to remove the mirror myself and he would cut a hole into my sheet rock behind the mirror. He said he would try to find if that gave him correct access. Then, they wouldn’t repair my wall and I could just put my mirror up and it would cover the hole, which I’m not okay with, so I told him to take a hike and didn't use them. Then, when I was getting one of my rooms repainted, the guy who was sent by AHS had a buddy from the plumbing that was close in the area, and he came over and told me that it would be 50 bucks for him to get the part and resolve it. So, that was kinda questionable. The plumber that AHS sent out was lazy and was trying to give me a very horrible solution versus doing what would've been better for me.
The contractors who did well called ahead of time and they were very conscientious of it, which I appreciate because a four-hour window is really hard unless you’re not doing anything that day. They evaluated the problem and they explained it to me as well as what the warranty would cover and what I could do. Then, they explained that I could upgrade what the warranty would not cover and told me the pros and cons. They gave me my options and let me make a decision. They didn’t just do only what the warranty company covered. I also appreciate that I’m getting my money’s worth with what I’m paying to the home warranty. I could clearly see my savings and the value of the home warranty for me.

I submitted a claim for my dishwasher on a Sunday, and AHS' contractor was able to come out on a Tuesday. The guy patiently listened to me as I was telling him what was wrong, and he said we will work on it. I told him I will be in the office, next door to the kitchen, and the only time he interrupted me was to say he was done. Communication was really awesome. He completed the repair in about an hour and he did a good job. He even cleaned up the front of the dishwasher. So far, I had run it three times and it has worked properly on all three.

I had good experiences with the two different claims I filed to American Home Shield over the phone. The reps I spoke with were excellent. I was getting I buy out for the other one, and I've been waiting for a check since last week. For the other claim, Anytime Home Services went out to service a recirculating pump on a hot water heater. Apparently, the motor was stuck and the plumber was able to fix it. So far, AHS has been very prompt. They're good.

There was an outlet in the bathroom that was not resetting and there was a live wire in the basement. I went online and put in a work order to AHS. Their website was very easy to navigate and user-friendly. I got a notice from AHS as to who the contractor would be and there was information as to whether or not I wanted to contact the contractor before they contacted me. The contractor, Sure Electrical, was quick in responding so I didn't have to reach out to them myself. The gentleman who came out was very professional and informative. I was pleased with the work that was done, with the timeliness in responding and updates given. So far, everything has been doing good as I expected. I was very satisfied with the overall experience.
