It was good from start to finish. The appointment was pretty timely which was within a couple of days of the claim submission. The guy went in, kinda had an idea of what the problem was, investigated it and figured out exactly what it was. He replaced the part and the refrigerator’s back up and running. He said, “If it doesn't work, give me a call and we'll fix it.” I appreciated that offer.

I most recently submitted a claim with AHS because our washing machine was leaking. I did it online and I got a call the next day from a service rep. The only complaint I had was the tech was busy and it took him a couple of days to be able to come out and assess the problem. Then, he had to order a part for the machine and that took another week. But when he came out, he found the problem almost instantaneous. There was a hole in the gasket for the door. Then, before he finished, he checked and took the lid off. There was a solenoid valve on the back that was also leaking. He said from his experience that if something like that happens, you always check the other one because it could be bad and he replaced them both.
Also, our water heater went out a year or two ago. It started leaking and that happened right before we were going out of town. Thankfully, we identified it and drained the thing before we went out of town. Then, the contractors were going to take a week, but it was fine because we were out of town anyway. I've had no problems with my hot water since the repair. We've had nothing but success with AHS so far. They're responsive and they look to get things fixed and fixed right.

The tech from Weise Plumbing came out to our place for a toilet that wouldn't flush. He snaked it out and got it to function properly. AHS sends somebody out when something goes wrong. I pay my deductible and they take care of whatever problem I have.

The heater wouldn't start at all, and 1st Goal came out and fixed it. They did a very good job. Submitting the claim was pretty simple. But they could have a little bit more personal service with people rather than automated or online servicing. It took me more than five months to get a stovetop repaired. That was the problem with dealing with them and the contractor who they sent out.
I had a water heater that started to leak. They sent out a contractor and the contractor was gonna charge $1,200 to install, even with the service contract that I have through American Home Shield. I wound up not even using them and I called my plumber and paid him $1,500 because I'd rather give it to someone I know. So that was bad. I didn't like that at all. I was very unhappy with what happened with the water heater. It was supposed to be covered and it had to be replaced. The contractor said that additional lines had to be ran. But they didn't have to be ran. American Home Shield contracted with the wrong people who were trying to scam me.

The claim for the washing machine was very good. The guy was knowledgeable. He was here within half an hour of my initial phone call. The last time I called, I waited three months for service and I was about to cancel my service with American Home Shield. I had a claim for the refrigerator. The temperature kept going bad. I lost about $700 to $800 worth of food and they don't provide for lost food. I was not happy at all. A guy came and he tested the temperature but he didn't even think that that unit was broken. He said, "It's Frigidaire. That's made by Kenmore. I have to get that company." I waited about a month. He came back but couldn't do anything. Then he said it was that company, then he waited again. The third or fourth time somebody came and fixed it in two minutes, they needed a new temperature control. The gaskets were ripped on the door. I asked him to fix it but he said they don't fix that.

We call American Home Shield and then they send somebody out within a day or so. We called them out last week because our furnace quit working and today, people from The Appliance Guys are here replacing it. We know other people that they have done work for, and they've all said they're great, so I'm assuming they'll be great with us as well. They're working downstairs, and they seem very professional. My husband's been with them because I'm upstairs by the fireplace. He likes them a lot.

The guy had to order a part for my dishwasher that was leaking. He came out a week later and it's fixed now. He was friendly and knowledgeable. He knew what he was talking about and explained everything. With American Home Shield, I don't have to be out huge amounts of money if something does break. They do send out some good technicians. I had American Homebuyers and they sucked. They sent out shady technicians that wouldn't keep the time schedule and say stuff wasn't covered.

American Home Shield called me within a day after filling out a form. They said the contractor could contact me within 24 hours, and they did. They had to put in a new water heater because it was leaking from the inside. It was an old unit and there was nothing they could do to repair it. The repair company was awesome, very professional and accommodating. Everything's good. I got the warranty for this exact problem because the water heater was kind of towards the end of its expected life, and American Home Shield met my expectations. Everything was very user-friendly. Everyone I spoke to was very nice.

The rep from C Mayes Plumbing resolved part of the issue when he came out but there’s still one leaky faucet. There is a part waiting to come in and we’ve got faucets to be replaced. So, when the technician is able to come back out, we have the material for him to install. I tried to put another order with American Home Shield for another issue that I was having with an oven door. Somebody came out and then, they were delivering the part. I tried to tie in another issue with my refrigerator for the same guy to come out because it's the same company for each of the appliances. But they told me that they couldn't do a certain amount of tickets in one day even though I paid to open a new ticket.
I didn't wanna have two people coming to my house from the same company, when one person could have taken care of it. So, the reason that they gave me for not being able to coordinate the two didn't sound legitimate to me. I kinda have my eyebrow raised with that. Also, we've had somebody out several times for the refrigerator, and they have replaced certain parts after a while, but we keep having them come out to service the same thing.
Are you still in need of assistance?

The downstairs air conditioner was not blowing cold air. I went online and submitted the claim to American Home Shield. The process was really easy. I got an email saying that the contractor should contact me soon. It didn't say exactly how long, but it said they would be in contact with me shortly. The contractor showed up on time, he quickly diagnosed the issue, and he fixed it. He was in and out within two hours.
So far, with this first claim that we made, American Home Shield has been excellent. We had a previous home insurance and we had to fight with them constantly to send somebody reputable out. Also, the quality of the people that came out to fix it wasn't as good. They had to send out multiple people. Then, at some point, we still had to pay additional money more than the deductible.
With American Home Shield, I like being able to customize the plan on what they would cover. The previous one that we used didn't really have that option. I think that selecting the deductible amount was fair. The response time was really easy. At first, I was kind of worried of not talking to an agent to get the repairs done, but as soon as I submitted everything online, I got an email notification that said that it was being processed and to pay the money. I paid the money and then they said somebody would be out here soon. It was relatively quick and easy. There were no delays in anything. So, I enjoyed that.

American Home Shield has sent really good people. Everything that we've started is getting done. Some things have taken a little longer but I've been very happy. The website is super easy to file the claims on. I hear from the contractors very quickly and I've never had to call another contractor. I've never had to call them because they haven't gotten a hold of me. They always are really quick to respond. Sometimes when a project is in the middle of the project, the contractor might mark it as completed so that American Home Shield is not bugging them. I kind of have to take over and bug them. I have an issue with a jacuzzi and they pulled the pump on it. On the website it shows my project is completed but I don't have a functioning jacuzzi. It would be nice if American Home Shield was also bugging them to get it done. It would speed up the process a little more.
When we first moved in, it took about two weeks before they received funding from the title company in order for us to be able to file a claim. That was kind of frustrating because you've moved in, you discover things that don't work, you're anxious to get that ball rolling, but we couldn't do that. We could only file one claim until the payment had cleared and that seemed to take a long time. In today's world where everything should be done electronically, they had to wait for a check. We filed the claim for an exhaust fan where if we'd known, we would have filed the claim for something that was more pressing.

I'm glad I have American Home Shield. I've been pleased with the people they have sent. I feel more comfortable in my home as far as repairs. I had somebody I referred to them and he had just spent $40,000. I told him, “I don't know why you’re telling me this because I told you about American Home Shield a long time ago. You probably waited too late to ever benefit.” They save you a lot of money and they send good people.
I got them to evaluate a problem at one of my properties in Baltimore. When I ordered it, they asked for me to pay them so I paid. Then I kept getting an invoice. I didn't pay it any attention ‘cause I knew I had done what I was supposed to do. I also asked them to evaluate termite stuff at another property. The company called me and said, "We're gonna do this as a free consultation and we'll let American Home Shield know to refund your money." But I didn't get that refund. Also, I referred several people there and I never got the Amazon gift card. The people I referred have called me complaining about it too.

I had a recent claim to American Home Shield for a ceiling fan. The contractor didn't do the thing and my fan was not replaced but the contractor was fine. He didn't say anything to me when he left though. I was told that the contractor wrote up in his report that the motor was gone because of a string wrapped around the motor. But the chain that you pull to cut the fan off is broken out, so there's no way that the fan will come on. I was told I could have another person come out and look but I would have to pay another $100. I said I wouldn't do that because I'm not gonna pay another $100. I can understand that if a string was the cause of it, they wouldn’t fix it because it was not a mechanical thing. Overall, I’ve had no problem with them.

Our contract with AHS on a property ran out on October 9th. We sold the house on October the 6th. We offered the continued warranty to the new owners of the house and they said no because they had their own. Since our contract happened to be up within a couple of days, we went ahead and signed up to have ours canceled because no longer need it on the piece of property. We have another piece of property in South Carolina that we have the same combo plan on and we like it, and we have no issues whatsoever. I took a photo of the cancellation when I finally was able to do it on the 6th. When I submitted it, it said there would be around a $53 cancellation fee. AHS said they would review the request and make a decision within three to five business days. That was on the 6th and it is the 16th, and we still have not had a response.
If they decide to charge a fee for canceling before it ran out within a couple of days, I not only will pay that, but they better go ahead and charge me $50 more, because I will cancel the one that I'm currently in that is not up. I hope that they act like they've got some sense and not try to treat people like stepchildren. I'm not a retaliatory type guy, but I could understand if I canceled after the fact, and it had renewed. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
Other than that, it's very easy when you go online and submit a claim to them, but it's a problem when you get on the phone and call because you get somebody in a different country or you get somebody in this country that doesn't speak English. Their contractors are top-of-the-line, highly trained, and professional. We've never had any issue with anybody that ever came out. They were great.

The washing machine was not finishing its spin. I called AHS and a technician from Valley Pro came out after three days. However, he could not identify the problem. I got back to AHS and they ended up assigning it to Sears. The Sears technician was more thorough and extremely intelligent. He identified the problem and he ordered the part that's supposed to be installed on Tuesday. But I've been without a washer for over a month. I also had a dishwasher down since August 7th that only got finished on Monday. The technician that came for the dishwasher was excellent. I never get the same contractor because what apparently American Home Shield does is they set up all their repair providers in a database and it goes in a rotating pattern. So, it's random.

The garage door people that came out were extremely polite. They did their job and knew what they were doing. The problem was resolved and I haven't had any further issues. The guy that came out about my thermostat was extremely sweet and very knowledgeable. They were in and out of here. They checked the entire thing and made sure that I was safe and good to go. They couldn’t have been nicer people.
The reps at American Home Shield are polite. However, you're on hold for a lot of the period of time. They need to have a better response time. I would like to have a more efficient and more expedient process. I’m still waiting on somebody to show up about my dishwasher. I am not a happy camper about that. I understand if they can go out and find the part, they're gonna go out and find the part instead of replacing something. I don't wanna listen to the repeated part of American Home Shield’s conversation with people. It's a 35-minute phone call. I don't wanna spend 35 minutes on the phone.
When I first started out with American Home Shield, my Realtor swore hat the information went in correctly and I should have been able to log on, do whatever it was I needed to do, but that didn't happen. I don't think it's the best product out there. It’s extremely time consuming. They send people that are farther away than they need to be. With the garage door, I hope that they had a substation or a sub store here more locally than Waco. Waco is an hour and a half drive. There are several companies here in Killeen that could have come in and done it probably for less money.

For the most part, AHS has been a pretty good service. I had one contractor though that was scary. He was a plumber and he didn't do some things right. When he left, my toilet was running and running. When he had to come back out, he was on the muscle and pretty pissy. I was nervous then 'cause I live alone. After getting service like that, I'm afraid to call say anything. Though I should say something I let it go.
More recently, I got an email from American Home Shield for a seasonal check-up for my heating and cooling for $75. I requested that and a tech came, checked my system out and cleaned it. It was a real mess trying to get through to AHS though because the check-up wasn't covered by their warranty program though it was offered through it. There was no way online or by phone to get that set up. They wanted me to pay them like how I pay my deductible on a service call before anybody talked to me or before I schedule anything. I wasn't sure what I was paying for. I also wanted to make sure AHS didn't think I had an emergency. It was awful and frustrating spending time both online and over the phone getting passed around. So I get ice and frost inside the refrigerator around the door and beyond the door. I called American Home Shield and told them that I had a problem with my refrigerator freezer. A major part of the issue is that I can't communicate with them. I'm on hold forever. When I do get somebody, they may or may not speak English. But in any event, all they do was assign somebody.
I had never heard of the company that they assigned to my claim. It turned out that they were some of the local outfit that somehow got associated with American Home Shield. When the “technician” came to fix this little problem with my icemaker door, he claimed that it was already broken, but it wasn't because I know it was working. He apparently broke another part in the door of the icemaker, but not the electronics in the door. He said he had to order the whole assembly. It turned out that the assembly was no longer being made. So now, the only choice I had was to get a new refrigerator. I requested to get another refrigerator like the one I had. That seemed like a reasonable request. I spent 18 hours on hold in 6 different attempts to get American Home Shield on the phone. By that time, I was a little irritable. Mr. Rooter came out and I told them that there was a leak behind the refrigerator and I thought the water might've been coming from there because I could hear something. They said that there wasn't anything wrong with the refrigerator and that it was the toilet that was cracked. They took the toilet and I still saw water in the restroom. I called Home Shield and told them that Mr. Rooter brought me a toilet that doesn't work. My mom needs handicap-accessible and they brought me a small Glacier Bay round toilet. My mom had to go stay in Dove Creek with my sister and they don't really have an extra room, so it was inconvenient. For a month, I dealt with it. Finally, Home Shield sent Lone Star out to do a second opinion and they said that the leak is actually from the refrigerator so we shut that off. They were perfect.
But Home Shield told me that I needed to pay for Mr. Rooter from Abilene to come out and fix the toilet. They came out and brought an elongated toilet which is a little bit taller so my mom can come back home. Now, that toilet works for her, but we still have to pay another $65 for the line to get fixed in the kitchen for the ice maker machine. It's been two months now, but I haven't paid for that part yet. I don't want Mr. Rooter out again because they didn't fix it and they did everything wrong the first time. The plumbing problem got resolved and the contractor answered questions well. They were able to schedule in a timely manner. It went well. They wore a mask and they made sure to keep adequate social distancing. The only qualm I have is the phone wait time. There were instances where it was easy to get online and issue a work request. But it was kind of a weird situation for me because I was trying to get a follow-up after my old contract expired. I didn't have a chance to request a follow-up. I had to do it over the phone. It was a pain. But American Home Shield is fine. I like it.
American Home Shield's online service is okay and I like their contractors that they hook me up with. It's handy to have a home warranty in general. But on the website where it lists the telephone number and it states that it's a 24-hour phone line. But it's pretty clear to see that the resources they have answering the phone differ based off the time of the day.
I called at 1 AM because no one was gonna be in the queue. But that was not the case. I left my phone on for an hour and a half before I hung up and there was no answer. But whenever I called back the next morning, someone answered within half an hour. So they should be clearer in details as far as calling in. Also, their online utility needs to have some sort of mechanism, which allows me to request follow-ups more readily, and give me more options for detailing the nature of my issue. It gives a bunch of random checkmarks for like, "What do you have problem with?" They should put in a search bar that auto-completed my issue because some items could fall under different aspects.

The hot water heater was out and after repeated tries of reigniting the pilot, it was not staying on. So, I called American Home Shield and explained to them what was going on. They sent someone out within a day or two. Immediate Response came out, reignited the pilot light and said there was nothing that they could do at that point since it was reignited. But that if it went back out, to call the company again. It did go back out and I called AHS again and let them know what happened. I figured I should go to them since it will be them who will determine whether they can do anything further or if it's gonna come out of pocket or whatever the case. The young lady wasn't able to resolve it. When I called, she said she had to follow up because they didn't have the notes of the technician in their system and that they would call back.
I've been out of town for a week-plus now and AHS hasn't called me back. So, I was thinking about that this morning that I needed to call before I let too much time go by since I called them to see what the status of it was. I’ve had this service with AHS for a long time and they’re generally good. Sometimes, the frustration is that we don't have the right coverage and it’s not the company. Usually, there are folks out to the house quickly.

On my recent claim to American Home Shield, they sent two to three people out to check the issue out. They send the first man out and he ordered parts and stuff, and he couldn't get it together. Then they send somebody else out. He said that it needed to be repaired and it needed a whole new something, but then they didn't trust him. They sent somebody else out to go behind him to see what was the issue and see if they could fix it. He said he couldn't do anything with it. AHS finally let us get another stove.
It was just one thing behind another. The contractor had ordered parts to it and he got one part of it working and then he left. The stove should light when it's still warm. I know it takes some time. It might take up to about an hour for it to really get the light on and let you know that the surface is still warm. He had put it in, had them like two hours and my husband went and touched it and it was too hot. That meant that it worked. But it stayed on the whole time. You can't go to bed or leave the house with the stove on. He came back and he had to unplug that part there, then he tried fixing it again and just couldn't get it right. He had put in a thing saying that it needed a whole new stove. That was when AHS sent somebody out to check behind him to make sure that that was what it was.
That guy came out and he tried to do something. He tried to order a part and put in every work needed. We got another one but AHS is not standing up to their words. They take you to so much. As soon as my plan ends, I'm gonna be ending them too. They advertise on TV this and that, and they take you through a whole lot. Also, they're sending out people who are trying to start a business. They shouldn't send people out with business that just started last month. Everybody needs a chance, but don't chance them with me.

We had a brief power surge that was enough to mess up our clocks and air conditioner. American Home Shield's tech came and he was a very nice guy. He went to the AC unit outdoors and took off a panel. It turned out that the power surge had blown off a connector. The tech put in a new one and the air conditioner came back on. Everything is still working great since then.

I wanted to make sure that the electrical was up to code. I sent in a claim to fix the electrical for my doorbell because it's an older home. Initially, I was frustrated because the company had one cancellation at the last minute and one no show. But then I found out that it was the same individual and the company ended up firing that individual. So there were some kind of personnel issues going on. But it was frustrating from my perspective because I had switched my work schedule around so then I'd leave work, get home, and then find out no one was coming.
The technician that did come out was very knowledgeable. He took care of the issues and he acknowledged the fact that there were some internal issues going on with the company. He was able to fix everything. He checked wiring in the basement and he did a very thorough job to make sure that all the connections that were needed were taken care of. Everything's working great. Out of the claims that I've had with American Home Shield, I'm the most satisfied with the way that this one turned out.
I have one pending claim for my above the range microwave. I had to wait a week and a half for a technician to come out and look at the microwave and then American Home Shield decided they wanted a second opinion. So that guy just came this week and now, the claim status is that it's pending authorization. It's been pending for two days now. This one has been the most frustrating.

My water bill was double and then I noticed that my hot water heater was running 24-7. I had somebody come over and sure enough, there was a water leak. I called AHS and they sent out the contractors. Then the contractors said what they needed to do and got permission from AHS and took pictures for AHS to see what was going on and for them to go ahead. My friend turned the hot water heater off so all I had was cold water. Then when the contractor came back, he fixed it where I could have cold water till he could get back with AHS and get everything approved. Then within a day, they were back out there and they got it fixed. So far, everything's been working.
However, when I got American Home Shield, there was a lot of misinformation. When I bought this policy, I was under the assumption that I paid my $50 a month whether I used it or not. Then if I had to come out, it was $109 on heat and air. I've used AHS one other time, and it was plain about if they came out and they had to use more than a certain amount of Freon, I had to pay for that. So I was fine because I knew that upfront. But I was led to believe that if something was broken and the contractors could not fix it, that AHS would pay the 100%. I need to know exactly what my future looks like. I can't be thinking that AHS is gonna pay 100% other than the $109 plus the money I pay every month, then when it comes right down to it, AHS will only pay $1,000. The guy told me AHS will pay $1,000 towards heat and air, but they will pay $3,000 towards an appliance. That doesn’t make sense.

I've been relatively pleased with AHS. However, I had a plumbing issue that wasn't covered by AHS which was horrible. I ended up paying for it out of my pocket and I wasn't happy with that. That was $3,000 and it left a taste in my mouth. I’ve been with them for around eight years or more. Initially, when I first got AHS, they used to be the ones to set up an appointment but now, they have everything automated. But I haven't had a problem with everything else.

I moved to this apartment on the 18th of September and the air conditioner was not working. I called in the next day, and they told me they will come on Monday to see what they can do. They came. The compressor is outside of the apartment and the guy looked around and said he would be able to fix something, but there was nothing that the warranty will cover to replace. The system is too old and it's not possible to fix it. He said he could adjust something that day, but he could not guarantee how long it would work. I said, "Well, but we need to make sure that this will work." He said that every time the unit stopped working, I needed to call and they would come back. It was Tuesday when the guy came and the next morning, the air conditioner was not working again.
I called American Home Shield and they made the appointment for the guy come back in the next Monday. The guy made the appointment for 4 o'clock. It was my day off and I went to the store. When I came back, I saw a 2 o'clock message on my phone that said, "I was here. You were not home. I will make another appointment." I called the company and said I was already waiting for one week. They said, "Oh, we will send the message and to see if he can come back tomorrow." The next day, the same guy sent me a message and he did the appointment for 10 days ahead, which was October 7th. I called the warranty company and told them that I couldn't wait that long. It was 90 degrees inside of the house and I work from home.
I told the American Home Shield rep that I can pay again for them to send me another company. They did. The guy who came here looked and said, "You have a big hole in the compressor. This compressor is not possible to replace because it's too old. The system is completely damaged and the only way to fix the problem is replacing all.” The guy did one description of the situation and sent me one email. He then sent to the warranty company the description of the job and they never called me back to say, "We will replace" or "We'll not replace." The next Monday, I called American Home Shield. I asked what was going on and why they were not answering the result of the last visit.
It's an hour until they answer the phone, and the lady that answered said it was a previous condition situation. She said they would not be able to replace my air conditioner. I even went through the reviews to see what was going on and all the reviews said really bad things of the company. Unfortunately, they don't know how to work business. I bought the house with the warranty that covered everything. When the house had an inspection, the inspector saw something wrong on the air conditioner and then the seller of the house bought this warranty to cover everything. The promise that I had when I bought the house was that it was covered. It's really sad.

Submitting a claim is not really hard, but it's time-consuming -- push this button, do this backflip, jump over this hose. But there was one girl that was just terrific. Her name was Jasmine and she was wonderful. She thought of things that might happen in different situations. She knew what she was doing and said, “Okay, if this happens, then call this number. If this happens, call this number. You're gonna have to do it this way and make sure you do it that way.” She impressed me. Most of them did not have a bad accent, but they really didn't seem that they actually knew what was happening.
During one weekend, there was water all down the hallway. It came from the hot water heater, so I turned the water off out in the street. I called American Home Shield and they were supposed to send somebody out there. Two hours later, no one had arrived and I hadn't heard of anything. I called them back and they said, they didn't have anybody that would come out on the weekend. They said I could go out of their service and get my own and then pay for it and then they would reimburse me. I did that and I have not heard from them. I've sent them a copy of the invoice, but I have not received my money back.
I was gone the next day and the following day, I came home and went to take a shower and there was no hot water. I called AHS again and they sent out Bill’s. They were very nice. It turned out the other company had not done the pilot light, which was rather annoying. Bill's took care of it and everything was fine and working just great. But, it cost me $461 for two new lines that were about 10 bucks apiece that I could’ve done myself. So, the whole situation was not good. I'll call them back and spend 30 minutes just trying to talk to somebody, and find out if they ever received my invoice to get my money back.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is very simple. You just call the number and tell them what it is. Then, within a day or so, whoever they contract with calls for an appointment. I only had two repairs in five years. So financially, I don't know if it's worth it to have it but I'm not gonna lose it. It's easier to call one place. It’s more convenient.

We had two houses and I had American Home Shield on both of them. With the home warranty, you can either make a claim with them online or you can call them. I find that doing a ticket online is easier than actually calling them. Sometimes calling them is pretty cumbersome. But usually, I get a quick reply back within one or two days. When considering a home warranty, look at the extended plans that the company offers and see if some of those items fall within appliances or different things that one has. In my case, I didn't know American Home Shield covered septic tanks and pool pumps. It's always good to be aware.
I had one complaint about my home warranty though. Something happened with my water heater and I wasn't a fan of the company they sent out. I looked at the contractor's reviews and a lot of people weren't happy with them. I asked American Home Shield if they could find someone else and they said the only option I had was to take the cash payout. That was pretty much what I did. There was also the time when I had two situations with the electric. I had some lights out and the power to my sprinkler system was out. Mae Dae Electric came out and they reacted really quickly. They made the repairs. Their guy was very personable and nice. He kinda explained what was going on and how he made the repairs.

The garbage disposal quit. It just wouldn't run. I called Home Shield and they made the appointment for Thursday. And then later in the afternoon, my HVAC system went out and I called Home Shield again and they scheduled it again Thursday. So, I had two appointments on Thursday. We were down there at Longboat Key for two weeks. The gentleman came out and he was on time. He was very proper, courteous, professional and did the job, and then left.
Submitting claims is a simple process. I like it so well. I didn't even know anything about Home Shield until we bought that townhouse down at Longboat Key and the real estate agent gave that to us as a gift. And because the townhouse stays vacant for several months, we don't rent it out or anything, so we're up in Franklin, Tennessee, they're down in Longboat Key, Florida, so if something goes wrong, I'm stuck trying to get somebody to come in to do it. And then I liked it so well that I went ahead this year and signed a contract for our house up here in Franklin.
I know a lot of companies do have a third party customer service. But that's just the way of businesses now. I made two calls for appointments on that Tuesday. The first call, the lady was extremely polite, but I couldn't understand her. I kept asking her to repeat herself. I have no idea how much training and all that. What I have learned, because I couldn't understand that lady when she made it, is that once she gave me the name, and it showed up on the computer too, I called the company to make sure that the appointment was set. For the second appointment I made, Home Shield is based out of Memphis and the rep was in Memphis. There were no language issues to deal with there. Other than that, Home Shield did exactly what they were supposed to do. If I had an issue, I called, explained it to them, paid them the $75, then they made the appointment.

AHS did one job for me and it turned out great. My only issue with them is I'm having a difficult time not having a contractor I don't want in my home for a heating inspection. It's system-generated and there's no way to ask for a different contractor. You just have to cancel the service, go back and ask again, and hope you win the lottery. This was a request for a home heating tune-up for $75. I made a phone call twice and had a really lengthy conversation. The rep said she would do my request and not to worry. Then I get the little text or email that says this contractor will be in touch for a schedule. I look and it's this contractor that I don't want. Now I just don't have the energy for it. I put that to the side about a week and a half ago and I'll probably try to do it again soon because I'd like to get the thing tuned up.

AHS sent out Sigmond Plumbing for my garbage disposal and they were wonderful. They were knowledgeable about what the problem was and the tech was able to fix it right at the spot. We also didn't really have to be around him to see if he was doing his work correctly or not. But they did not inform me ahead of time of the delay that they saw and I had to contact them to see what was going on and what time would they be able to make it. Other than that, everything was fine workwise. AHS was awesome, too and I didn't have any trouble with them.
The only thing is, I talked about the swimming pool thing with them and they said that certain stuff were not covered. But sometimes, there would be one thing that was covered, then the fixing of that was not covered. For instance, when the heater’s remote that we had in the swimming pool and spa area wasn’t working, they sent a person to see that. But to fix that issue, they were not ready to spend money for it, meaning it was not covered. There had been two times that we had issues with the swimming pool that weren't covered and the techs didn't fix them. I wasn’t happy about because they said the appliance was covered, but when the techs came here, they said only the service would be covered but not the parts.
Aside from that, when we had an issue with the electric fan, they said the fan was covered, but when the guy who came to look at it, he said the parts were not covered and they would not be able to fix it. I paid $75 for the visit and the fan was not fixed. This happened twice for me and during those times, I ended up paying the guy. Plus, I had to go for a different person to look for another part along with the guy, so I had to pay both of them again. But other than that, when we had an issue with the water faucet, everything was taken care of.

American Home Shield is a reliable home warranty company. I use them on an average of once a month. Tommy D Appliance has come out most recently. I had two other appliances I'm getting replaced as well. The technicians were always professional and on time. Although when this whole COVID thing first started, there was one company that came out in a lab suit with lab boots and the air tank, and it was quite interesting. I had neighbors calling me asking me if we were okay. They wanted to know if we were under quarantine.
It's just that customer service needs work. AHS should hire more people. I usually spend about an average of 30 to an hour and a half just to get someone on the phone. The one time to follow up with the dishwasher, I was on hold for the appliance section of American Home Shield for two and a half hours. Granted the lady on the other side of the phone was amazing and great, when she asked for the dimensions, I told her not to hang up on me and give me five more minutes as I wasn't home. I asked her that we talk about something else really quickly. Other than the ridiculous wait time, it’s been pretty good.

Their process is very easy. I told them what was wrong and Wilks Appliance Repair came out and fixed the problem for the dishwasher and the stove. They're pretty good. I'm just waiting for the part and they're gonna come back on Thursday and fix that. The technician was super nice and I would go back with him and recommend them 100%.
I'm been waiting for a long time for my appliances to get repaired. I had a lot of issues with American Home Shield trying to get back to me and to get ahold of somebody. The microwave wasn't the biggest deal but I've got five children, my husband and myself, and I didn't have a washing machine for three months. Then my refrigerator as well. I had to call about a water leak but the contractor sucked and I put in a complaint. He was just a young kid, came in with an attitude, and just talked down to my husband, which really ticked me off. And then he got frustrated, saying I needed a special tool to fix the faucet in my bathroom, which we didn't need. And when he left, he had me sign the paperwork, and about an hour later, I went into my bathroom and he had left my hot water running in the shower. The electrical that was feeding our septic pump wasn't working properly which caused the pump to burn out. I filed it as an electrical problem because that's what I believed it to be. American Home Shield sent Nystrom Electric out and their tech was friendly enough, but he didn't really seem that knowledgeable of that specific issue. A lot of what he was verbally telling me didn't make sense, but I kind of attribute that to, “Well, I'm not an expert and I don't know really a lot about septic tanks.” It didn’t sound right. He had to make a couple of phone calls to his company to try to get clarification and how it all worked. We went through the whole house looking for where everything connected. It seemed like he was trying, but he basically went back and said, “This is not something that we’ll work on. It's a problem with the pump and not the electrical. So, we're gonna refer it back to American Home Shield.”
The pump was repaired as a plumbing issue because the pump was burnt out. It was a separate issue, though. It was referred back to AHS because it started because of an electrical issue. Nystrom called and I had to explain it all over again. They came out a second time with the same tech, and he's still not really sure why he was back. He looked, made some phone calls, and told me that his project manager said he won't touch it because it didn't meet code. He couldn't explain to me exactly what that meant and then he left. I called AHS last week to see if someone could send me any documentation on what the official issue was because Nystrom wouldn't send me anything because American Home Shield filed the claim and not me. I haven't been able to get anything in writing.
The overall experience with American Home Shield has been fairly good. I've had a couple of things that I've had to have looked at. There was a service that they recommended to its customers as preventative for heating and cooling because winter's coming. I thought that was really good that they're offering things to try to help at a discounted rate for homeowners to try to prevent issues from happening. I do really like that. Processing is a little bit slow, but I understand that because of COVID and everything else that's happening. I'm fairly satisfied. Is it the best that it could be? Probably not. But it's a decent service.

I extended another year with American Home Shield because I was impressed. When submitting a claim, you just go online or give them a call and tell them what’s going on. Then, they call you back with a contractor, who calls you less than 24 hours after or emails. ATR Heating came out and fixed the air ducts. I told him the problem, and he did less talk and more work. He was in and out. I like it. I told him I'm gonna recommend him and the company.
There was a company before ATR that didn't do anything. They looked and then started saying that the claim was not covered. I told them that I called American Home Shield and that everything was covered. The two guys said that they were gonna come back because they didn’t have the materials. But they didn’t need those. They just needed to be there and attach the things. I don’t like excuses. But that other guy just went there and did it. I wasn't impressed with the first company and AHS said that they would give another one and that they would not tell him what the problem was. So, the guy started from scratch and did a great job.

My daughter lives in the house. I'm very seldom over there but based on the information I received from her, the contractor for the plumbing was very professional. Usually when you call in a claim, someone calls you back within a certain length of time. It's not a long waitlist that you have to wait. The turnover is great. You have to pay $75 though when the contractor comes out just to make that visit. Then, whatever the problem is, you’re responsible for paying for the service such as getting a new hot water tank. Still, American Home Shield does a good job as far as service.

Draingo was very professional and very knowledgeable. When I had a flood, it kind of messed up my laminate flooring in that particular area and my carpet. I explained to them what was going on. They could see what was going on with the issue and they took care of the problem. There was something that was obstructing the toilet. They took out the whole toilet and retrieved it. Then they reinstalled the toilet and everything was taken care of right there. American Home Shield is the most reliable company towards covering stuff in your home. I've been pretty impressed. I've seen other people advertising stuff, but I'm a happy customer. Their custom service is really good. The process was really quick and very user-friendly.

I work at a hospital and we have COVID going on and everything. And it's hard for me to get away. But I have asked that the contractor call me a half hour before coming. And then I was able to work it out that way, so that part was good. The tech from Liberty Plumbing came on time. He explained everything he was doing. He was able to find the problem and he fixed it. It’s all you can ask for. Also, he had a mask on. We weren't near each other. He was down in the basement and I was pretty much upstairs.
I'm generally happy with Home Shield's service. Right now, I have a repair taken in for a microwave. The contractor came out to put a part in the microwave, but it didn't work. It has been going on four weeks, and I'm not too happy about that. They’re waiting on parts. The processes of elimination with seeing once you bring in the part and then it not working, and then bringing in another part, and it not working, that's not so great. The microwave is old. It probably really needs to be replaced. It’s not gonna be expensive to even replace the microwave. But, in the past, everything worked pretty well. The service has been beneficial.

Updated on 01/13/2021: They only keep charging monthly and 2 month delays on repairs that end up blowing out my whole fridge and freezer. Still waiting on parts. No one follows-up, returns calls, etc... Don't waste your time or money...and be aware they do not replace appliances. They give you pennies on the dollar... My fridge replacement is quoted over $10,000 and they offered $3,00. That doesn't even refund the money I've spend in monthly and service fees.
Original Review: I have lost track of the trips and they will send different service people and no help. I have lost food many times... Now just seems they have left me with a noisy fridge. Per the repairman it is the fan hitting the frozen condensation. Embarrassing we have to move to a different room to talk or watch tv. They will not replace this very expensive built-in fridge and they don't fix but have no problem taking my money. This is my last attempt and I'm cancelling this worthless ins plan. You're better to call a repairman when needed than wait 2-3 wks for a service call and never get things fixed.
I don't see how they continue to be in business. Anyone I have ever talked to says bad things. I did not have the noise until they rerouted my drain which shouldn't have happened. A lot of guess work. I still have ice... but every now and then. The noise goes in spells and some days louder than others... always during family gatherings. This is a total rip off to pay $75 monthly plus $100 service call. I could have already bought the $7,000 fridge in the fees I've paid.

ATTENTION HOMEOWNERS: I typically don’t do complaints online, however @AmericanHomeshield #AmericanHomeShield is absolutely HORRIBLE. I have been a customer since 2014. I have been seeking to solve an issue in which they were supposed to pay for a repair because of a mistake on their part. Since May, I have called repeatedly. Every time a manager is not available and they schedule a call back.
The contractor that completed the work did not receive payment until October (I paid him) for worked completed in May. When speaking to the contractor he had emails from American Homeshield telling him that they were not going to pay him and that he should seek payment from me. American Homeshield did not call to share the initial cost of the repair, call me back between the months of May-October or send me and email stating the resolution or confirming that I did indeed need to pay the contractor for work they agreed to pay.
My notes on this organization are extensive. The bottom line is that they lie and refuse to take or return calls. Their unethical practices have since caused the contractor to want to sue me. On October 7th, I called to cancel service. The cancellation department was not available but they were supposed to call back to complete the cancellation. No call back came but they of course decided to charge me again this month. I called again today and spoke to 3 people after being disconnected twice. I was on the phone from 9:30-11:45am with American Homeshield. Still no manager... still no call back .. and still no cancellation.
If shopping for a home warranty, please simply search #AmericanHomeShield On Facebook and take heed to all the complaints online. They are true! I wish I listened. Hopefully Consumer Affairs chooses to post this review. I know American Homeshield pays them, so it makes sense that the majority of the reviews on this site are high. My desire is simply that consumers have both the good reviews and bad reviews to empower them to make informed decisions. #TheFightContinues #horriblecustomerservice #AmericanHomeShield

I submitted a service request for a plumbing issue on August 28, 2020 and paid the required cost. The case was assigned to A.E. PLUMBING LLC out of Miamisburg. The contractor never contacted me (phone logs online where checked, voice mails were all double checked before this review). I call AHS about 5 weeks later and asked for a status update. They put me on hold and contacted the contractor. The Customer Service Rep came back and said the contractor will be reaching out to me and gave me the number again, which I already had.
Move forward to today, October 17, 2020, still no call from the Contractor, no any follow-up calls from AHS. I called the AHS this morning, they double checked their stuff, then said they would find another contactor for this Wednesday (10/21/2020), then put me on hold, came back and said they would escalate to get it done sooner. This service is for a toilet pipe that has started to leak. If this pipe causes damage to my home, AHS is going to be responsible. Get reliable contractors AHS.

Our air conditioner is leaking in the garage. We had five people out here and every one of them had something different to say except the last one who came and the guy who wasn't attached to American Home Shield, who said the problem is that the pan has rusted out and it has a hole in it. I got a letter from the first contractor saying they don't replace coils. The coil is not broken. I've had five people look at it and no one said the coil was broken, except him. I then called back to have another opinion because the other guy said that we needed a new pump and waterline. There's absolutely nothing wrong with them. I asked to have another person come out. That person gave me another diagnosis.
The last person from American Home Shield said there was a noise coming from the condenser outside. My husband went and put some oil in and it stopped. The only reason that the guy from American Home Shield knows that the problem is the pan is because it happened with my neighbor a couple years ago. The same unit, the same problem, and you can't get the part anymore. The ball bearings are about to go on the outside unit. This is going on for a month and a half now and we have not had it fixed.
It's almost impossible to get anybody on the phone. They always say, “No worries. We'll have somebody call you back,” and nobody calls back. There was only one girl who was nice enough to follow through and send it to the superiors to have a look at. I have not heard one word back after she called and said they had contacted her and that they're looking it over.
We had a problem with the pool. A guy came and fixed it. Now it's broken again, so he's replacing it. That got taken care of immediately. But when it comes to the air conditioning, American Home Shield doesn't want to spend that kind of money. They don't give a crap about the small people. It's 100 degrees here today and I need this fixed. I pay my premium for 24 years, every month, on time. Not only that, but they've raised it up so high. Then you have to pay before someone shows up.
I guess somebody else bought American Home Shield, and their service sucks. My girlfriend must have had five phone calls that kept hanging up on her last week. She was so frustrated. It takes an hour before anyone answers. You cannot get an American on the phone. They've outsourced to the Philippines and to India. I’m going to threaten them now that I’m going to sue them if they don’t get this taken care of. If you’re not gonna come fix it, then cash me out so I can move on.

We called American Home Shield because we had a leaking faucet in the bathroom upstairs. We paid the fee, they sent somebody down, he took it apart, he took it away and said he was gonna order it. 20 minutes later, he said it hasn't come. For another two weeks, my wife kept calling and calling. He says he's ordered the part, and then we got a message saying American Home Shield is gonna cover some of it and we're gonna have to pay some of it. After that, we didn't hear anything.
The job is still undone. We still have a hole in our wall. The person who came to remove the faucet has not returned. It's been two months that we're not able to use the bathroom, and the whole thing is terrible. It's inconvenient, and we've not had anything. American Home Shield sent another guy who came and checked it out, made a hole in the wall, saw what the problem was and made a report. We paid another $75. The whole thing's gone south, and we're gonna sue for damages as well. We're thinking of calling a lawyer then.

I couldn't bring the temperature up. I couldn't turn the air conditioning off. So my house was freezing during the night. I went out and turned off the breaker switch so I could get it turned off. I called Home Shield and they said they'd get somebody out. They said Mechanical would be coming out and they came out. It was some sort of connector switch that went out so they changed it out and I haven't had any problems since. I’m pleased with the person that came. They came on time and I was pleased with the whole service.
I'm very happy with Home Shield. But I don't really care for the fact that they raise the rates every year. Even if you don't use it, they raise the rates. I have been told that you do raise the rates every year. But I have not been notified by email or mail that my rates are gonna go up and how much. I don't want them to keep raising the rates every year so it gets the point where I can't afford them.

Our recent claim experience with AHS regarding plumbing was great. But the service of AHS lately has not been so great. I had a dishwasher break. I put it in a service request. Someone came out and said that they would be in touch. Apparently, they sent me an email from a totally different web server, so it went to my spam folder, even though I’ve always gotten American Home Shield emails.
For some reason, they were using some survey system for appliance purchases and there was no way to contact the appliance purchasing department. I can call them, but every time I've tried to call them, it took three tries to get the actual appliance purchasing phone number as if it's some secret. So, I have given up. I wanted to ask some questions and clarify some issues on the appliance that they had recommended, and I couldn't. Instead, I'm just taking the e-card option because it seems like that'll be the least likely to have an issue. I’m not super-happy but AHS has the best contract around.

Then all of a sudden, the bathtub too would also fill back up. So, we had no drainage at all which made us call the Home Shield. When the first contractor that received the task called, he told me that he had a fever and was sick but he was still on his way. I told him no and I called Home Shield again and asked to send another contractor. This was done within a week and I didn't have to wait an additional week for scheduling.
The guys from Bryant's Plumbing were perfect. They showed up and it took them 30 minutes, and they were done and walked out the door. All of our needs have been covered by American Home Shield. That's a very good benefit by being able to report more than one issue at one time. It just happened that there were three days between my washer and my dryer claim, so it cost me another 110 bucks.

The problem is when I call the 1-800 number for reimbursement or replacement, it's always an hour or two hours wait. AHS said they had been overwhelmed. The call is also long because they had to ask me a lot of questions like what size and color I have and what they have. They emailed me and said they didn't have enough information. I called somebody back at the other office and they said I got to call in the morning. I did and I still had to wait for an hour instead of two. Then I had to reach someone to finish up the process because I couldn't open the email to get cleared up to deliver the item because it went automatically to spam. It took three weeks to get everything done. If I didn't have to go through that process, I think it would have been a two-week process or a week and a half. I called American Home Shield thinking that they could take care of the problems. Their electrician came over, looked at my problem and said that he was gonna have to come because of the wire. I hadn't heard from Home Shield at all and I was wondering what was going on. I'm a very busy person and I'm waiting for them to call me but nobody does.
I finally called American Home Shield and asked what's going on. I told them that the electrician said that he was gonna come back and AHS hasn't contacted me. The rep said that they emailed me on October 16th but when I looked at my email, there was no email from them. I asked them what the email said and the rep said that my issue is not included in my warranty and that they're not gonna fix it. They said that was because my issue did not result from usual wear and tear. I asked how I could appeal their decision and the rep said I couldn't because I only had seven days from the time of their email to make an appeal. I asked the rep that since I never got the email, could it be forwarded to me so that I could at least read it. I was told that they did not have that capability. I never got the email and I have no information on the claim.
I called my electrician and had him come out to fix it. He told me that he could fix my problem and it's gonna be $3,000. I'm really unhappy as with AHS, I was talking to a woman who did not speak English. It was a very frustrating conversation. I got an expensive warranty to be covered. I haven't had any communication and there's nobody I can talk to. On their website, there is no option where I can say that I wanna complain. There's nowhere to go.

My refrigerator wasn't cooling off. Usually, I call and talk to somebody when I do claims with American Home Shield. I did this one online, then they randomly chose somebody and told me it was Sears. The contractor showed up on time. He was a good kid and he did a good job. I've since talked to some people that had problems with their refrigerators, and sometimes, it's something stupid. If you vacuum the coils in the front, you vacuum the coils in the back. You pull the refrigerator away from the wall and you remove the backing and look inside. You check if the fan is stuck because the compressor won't run if the fan doesn't run because then the compressor would burn up.
This was our second refrigerator. The refrigerator had moved from the house and sat outside for a while and apparently, the mice got in there. So, the mice put a bunch of junk in the fans, and the fan wouldn’t go around. We vacuumed the coils in front and took the back off. The contractor pulled some of the crap out of the back and the fans started running. The refrigerator ran fine. He put the cover on, we pushed it back and that was about it. So, was it worth $125 to have a guy tell you you should vacuum your refrigerator? Probably not. But did I have an alternative? I was thinking of pushing it out to the curb and having someone take it away. My wife wants us not to have two freezers and two refrigerators. We're just two people and it’s just full of stuff. So, I thought, “Before we give it away, we've got this warranty. Let's try it.” We did and I'm happy about it.
We also had the upstairs refrigerator. It's pretty old, but we never had ice or water. It was kind of a mystery. There was a filter downstairs in the ceiling. There wasn't a filter on the refrigerator. We're kind of out on this island between the sticks and people. They do funny things sometimes. What they had done is they put a main water filter kinda thing downstairs that filtered the water. There was a tapper in the sink where you could tap for a glass of water that was filtered. We've never used that, and the same water then went to the refrigerator. But because it was an old device on the door with a metal kinda crank inside, nothing happened. Luis came out and he was a cool guy. He told us to vacuum the bottom. He got in there and did something and said we needed a part. He ordered it. He came back a week later and put it on. We’ve had ice and water ever since.
It has been a good experience with with American Home Shield. Also, we got a dishwasher. The parts were too old. They couldn't get parts, so we got a new dishwasher. Then one other time, we had somebody come out. There are two air conditioning systems, one's newer and one's older, and we had somebody come out. And my understanding is that to maintain the air conditioning, oftentimes, you lose the Freon. They had to recharge the Freon. The cost of the Freon, allegedly, because of federal laws or restrictions or safety and only certain kinds are used right now, is expensive.
The contract says that American Home Shield will pay something like $15 and the cost is $75. So, it cost $400 to recharge the air conditioning. So, if they come out, they do a little something and they have to recharge it, it’s 400 bucks. One time, that happened. Another time, a guy came out. They put nitrogen in the system to find the leak. He took time to find the leak. The next day, he came back with the part and recharged the system, and it's been working fine. American Home Shield is not gonna give you a whole new air conditioner. They're just gonna repair whatever it takes right now as long as it needs repairing. I said, “Okay, I'll keep paying the warranty fee.” If we never have to call them, that's great. If we have to call them, that's the deal. We're happy warranty people.

American Home Shield has been fantastic. We really appreciate them and how quick they are in helping us. We've had some infrequent things, but they turn very, very quickly. We were having problems with our hot water heater. It had a leak on the plastic drain on the bottom. We also have a backflow valve out on the street and I went and did a quick test on the pressure tank that was on the top, and there was no pressure on it. There's supposed to be about an equal pressure with what you get. When I went out there, I noticed the spigot was leaking. The thing was about eight years old and with plastic, the plastic gets old and brittle.
ASAP Plumbing came out and they took a look at the street. They had to replace, out of our pocket, the pressure relief valve in the street. But they also had to replace the pressure tank. We paid a little extra for them to take the pressure tank. The people that had put it in before had put it off to the side. ASAP put it so that it's perpendicular to the water tank that they installed. Thank goodness they did that because it was at a 45-degree angle and with the weight of the pressure relief tank on the side, that could have filled with water. It's a two-gallon tank and that's about 12 pounds. It could have broken off. These guys were fantastic. They did a great job.
I was there watching the whole time and asking questions so that I understood what they were doing. They worked together as a team. They had to go up some stairs, they did all the safety things, they wore the masks, they were wearing gloves, they lowered it down so that it didn't break anything on the side, and it was a very tight fit. They did an unbelievable job. They also explained everything and what to watch out for. They cleaned up after themselves as well. In the past, folks came in and they left stuff all up in the attic. They were very, very quick and efficient. I recently went up there and checked to make sure there were no leaks. I really enjoyed those guys when they came over.

The process with American Home Shield was very easy. I've done it many times. Since COVID started, everybody's been staying home so suddenly, we're using our appliances and they're breaking down. Recently, my garbage disposal wasn’t grinding. The guy called and we made an appointment. I had to adjust the appointment day and he was great. We were able to communicate and come up with another time from the first time that we set. The communication was easy.
A piece of cat litter made out of clay had fallen into the sink and it was jamming the gears so that the engine couldn't turn it. However, the guy kind of got a little uptight. He said it was not in the warranty. I told him, "If you wanna charge me extra for taking a piece of clay out of my garbage disposal, then we can have a conversation. Otherwise, I don’t know what you’re going on about.” But the disposal has been perfectly fine. It took the guy like two seconds and it was done. The only thing is it's a very old garbage disposal and this is the third time I've had to call somebody out on it in the last six months. But every time, somebody's been able to kind of get it going again so it's fine.
American Home Shield has sent out plumbers and electricians. I've had the policy as long as I've owned my place which is almost 20 years. On a side note, I'm the president of my HOA so I have to call out vendors to work on things around our building from time to time. The reason I keep paying for American Home Shield for myself is I like knowing that I'm gonna pay the flat fee and that's gonna be it. I have had some vendors that have come out and told me that I had to pay them more to fix the problem and I've done that. I deal with so much price gouging because I'm a woman and I don't really know any better sometimes, or at least the vendors think that. I like having the feeling that it’s gonna be within a certain range of money and if it's more than that, then it's another conversation that I'd be having with American Home Shield.

I submit my claim online with AHS and it's very simple. I go into the computer, and then it’ll say what kind of service I want. It’s more of multiple-choice, so it’s very easy. The contractors that AHS sent have been very professional. They go straight to whatever I complained about. They did a maintenance check on what was going on with it. Once they got it done, they wrapped up and they were off. Some of the outlets were loose and the light hanging right above the dining room table was hanging on by a thread, which was high risk. I went to the website of American Home Shield and it gave me the option to schedule. The contractor called me and when the technician came and checked it, she was able to see. She tried to figure out what was going on with one of the receptacles where the switches didn't work and she replaced the exhaust fan in my bathroom. The motor was burned out.
I wasn't here when the HVAC person came and I wish that I had been because being the homeowner, I would like to know more about my system. I would like to walk through with him while he was doing his inspection. My mom was here but I had specific questions. I don't like the vents that are in here and if I want to change them out, I want to know if that is doable and run ductwork downstairs. These are round ones. They're not like the square ones you can just go in Walmart and buy. So, I'll probably end up paying someone else to come out and do another check for me with me here. I like American Home Shield. The seller paid for the warranty that I currently have but I would like to have my own contract with them myself, to keep it renewed or whatever I need to do.

With American Home Shield, it's hit or miss. If I get a good company, my whole experience is great. Recently, the techs they sent for my heating issue were phenomenal. However, he knew there were more things that had to be fixed but he said that AHS has tied his hands and they would only let him fix one thing that was probably not going to resolve my issue. He was right and my issue wasn't solved. I had to call back and get him back at my place again. The tech said that if I had called him outside of American Home Shield, he would fix five different things to get me working. He was great but the fact that we had to jump through hoops was annoying.
Another time, I opened a case for plumbing with Home Shield and they assigned a tech. I looked the contractor up and my sources were saying that they sucked and that I should not let them in my house. I read that they were cheats and liars who don't want to fix things. I called AHS and spoke to a really nice woman. I told her to find me a different plumber and we had to go through the entire process of cancelling the claim and opening a new one. She said another tech would get assigned. That didn't happen and the original plumber ended up coming. Exactly like the review said, the techs from there didn't do anything. They stayed at my house for 10 seconds, looked at the issue and said “Nope. No problem. See you later.” I asked them if they wanted to fix my issue and they said they were just racking up service calls as that was how they would get paid. They didn't have to fix anything.
I called AHS and said that I wanted a refund. I told them that I had instructed them not to send that contractor but they did and he didn't do anything. The rep whom I was speaking to said he would contact the agent again. He said he would get back to me but doesn't. I call again a couple of days later and the same thing happened. The rep said that my issue would be escalated and that they would get back to me. I still have an issue but I'm gonna get it fixed on my own. I want a refund of my deductible as my entire experience is miscommunication with no one following through. It is a horrible experience. AHS wants to do the bare minimum to get things working. They get things fixed but they will look for a reason why they can't.

I've only lived here a little over three years, and I had no idea if it was a really old furnace or if it was relatively new. We opened the door to the furnace, ‘cause I live in a condo so it's a very compact space. He told me that he was gonna take this door off and do the checking. He checked to see how old the furnace was. I left him alone and he went to the business. He changed my filter for me, too. I’ve been pleased with AHS. The contractors have been really fast to come. I was impressed with the speed of which the plumber was sent out. It was easy to report my issue online. One or two days later, I got a call and was set up for an appointment. It was a very fast response, which I appreciated. However, I don't like the way American Home Shield does things. I do understand this is insurance. You've got to go two or three visits with whatever is broken before they'll decide whether they'll fix it or replace it. On the second visit, the plumber got a little short with me. I think with COVID going on, we both had issues and got a little testy. When he came out the third time, he brought in a new disposal for me and installed it. I was ecstatic because I got a new disposal.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

The contractor that American Home Shield sent out diagnosed the microwave and the heating element was out. My book that came with the microwave said that the magnetron was warrantied for 10 years. So, I figured that I needed to go to Samsung for that. So I did, which was a little complicated, but it worked. And so, when the contractor came out, he put the magnetron in and the diode was out. Everything was okay but I was still left up in the air on the panel. I had mentioned to him when he first came out that there was something wrong with the panel. And so, I asked about it and he checked. He said that there was electricity going to the panel. And so, that was it on the panel.
I went to make some popcorn and the microwave only worked for 21 seconds and it would go off and give me an error code. When I tried to do something different, like change the power level, it would heat okay once the magnetron was put in. But there was that code that kept coming up. So, I called him back and told him. The second guy that was sent out, when I called and told them that the panel was not doing what I was asking it to do, brought the panel out without having someone come out and re-diagnose it, which I was appreciative of. But it was broken. So, we did it again and it took quite some time to get that part in. But they sent us a different guy out who was extremely nice and very knowledgeable. He brought it in last week or was going to install it, and it had a pencil dent. And so, that's when I got in on it and said that we have to have something done because I'm fixing to go to closing.
Things moved fast because that was last Wednesday. I called the contractor and they said that they would get on it. Then, someone would call back within two days to let me know what could be done because I didn't wanna wait another couple of weeks and nothing still be done. I called back on Friday before 4:00 because no one had called me, and spoke with someone else who said that they already had the part. The rep called the contractor to find out when my appointment would be and apparently, they told her today. So, I need to call them and verify that.

The best part of American Home Shield is making the service call. After that, everything goes downhill quickly. I set up the service call and I told them that I had TSF coupon that covers the $100 copay. It took me about 49 minutes to get them to finally find it on my account, even though I had all the information, including the email, and who sent it, what day, what time, and so forth. I gave them the codes on there. They assured me that everything was gonna be fine.
About a week later, I got an email saying that I was past due so I called them again. I asked why I was past due and told them that the coupon took care of that. But they said that it didn’t. It took them about half an hour until they figured it out. They found it in the comments. I told them that I kept hearing apologies but nothing was getting done correctly. I told her that I wanted a supervisor. This was the second time on this particular call out that I asked for a supervisor. I asked for them in the past, and they never return phone calls from supervisors. This was before the pandemic so they couldn't blame the pandemic for everything. And they said that they guarantee that a supervisor would contact me.
The rep called me back on Monday and she said that the coupon would be taken care of for sure and that a supervisor would call me that day. Nobody called me back. Then, I got another email on the 14th day saying that I was past due. I called again. This was my third phone call on the same service call. I told that I had asked for a supervisor two times before and it had never been done. For whatever reason, they couldn't get this right. Then they assured me the coupon was gonna be taken care of. She saw all the notes. I told her that they kept assuring me this but I kept getting emails saying that I was past due. They assured me that was going to be done. And here we are, over almost three weeks later, and we still have a problem. I have two different addresses. I paid close to $2,000 a year for this. I have my sister, my mom, we're all ready to leave the company because this has gotten beyond ridiculous.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

The toilets were loose and I didn't know if I was gonna have to reseal them or not. So I had the contractor come out and they tightened up one and then resealed the other one. So they replaced the wax seals in my toilets and then made sure that they were tightened. But when they got here, they didn't realize it was two toilets. But it was quickly handled. They had to come twice because on the second occasion I called them, they couldn't find my water meter because part of what they did was also fix the leak in my bathtub. But they were all timely and professional. The communication was perfect. Everything is great now. I was completely satisfied. It's a peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong here, I can call American Home Shield and I'm not gonna get bloodered if I didn’t have the coverage.
Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your service request. My furnace did not work completely, and it was freezing cold. The repairman showed up on time and diagnosed the problem, which was a totally frozen, burned motherboard. He said, “I can get you the part. It's going to take me a day or so. I'll rush it.” He got the part, asked me if he could come, and he fixed the problem. He couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful. Much better than some of my previous vendors. I'm a single mom with a bunch of kids. It's COVID and it's crazy. He wore a mask. He was very well-mannered, and I would love to have him anytime I have a problem. The furnace is working great, so I have no complaints.

I live in a mobile home, and only one side seemed to be throwing air conditioning out. And it wasn't heating as fast as it should be. I called Home Shield up and told them what it was. And they said, “Okay.” And they would be in contact with me. I got a text saying what company it would be. The next thing I know, Quick Response A/C called me and set up a time to come out. It was very rapid and no problem. The tech changed some part inside the unit and put a new control box up for me. He was very nice and helpful. They went under the house and crawled all around to make sure that everything under the house was okay. They took their time to go through everything. That was the third time I've had them out. I had them out for an ice maker. They came on to fix it, and it worked fine a little while. And then it acted it up, and I called them again. When they came out, they replaced the ice maker.

I had a leak coming out from under my tub. I didn't know if it was the tub, the faucet, the plumbing, or the pipe. I called American Home Shield and I was thrilled with the first rep I spoke with. I called back a second time and I ended up just telling them, “Never mind.” That was the first time I had no luck. I don't know if they didn't know what they were talking about or didn't understand what I was talking about. That wasn’t helpful at all. I got so frustrated and hung up. I waited half an hour and called back again because I knew I’d get somebody different. That one was fine. It was really quick. The plumber went in there and assessed it really quickly. He got the parts he needed, came back, and fixed the leak. That was fine.

The online interface was pretty straightforward. I requested the key change and everything happened really quick and efficiently. I asked them some questions about what it covered, like I had a sliding door that had a key. They said it didn't cover that. So they were straight up about what they were offering and when they could get it done. Within the day, I was reached out by a local key replacing company and they scheduled an appointment with me. I only had a couple of doors for them to rekey and they were in and out within an hour. Value wise, American Home Shield is a good thing, especially for a new homeowner and with different things that could go wrong with the house. The deductible seems reasonable for the type of work that they're doing. Everything went so smooth.

American Home Shield has been good. Submitting claims is easy, but following up is a little difficult. Before, we used to be able to email or chat online and they stopped the chat. In the last three months, we called them for the AC and the washer dryer and the hold time was forever. To get two minutes of information from the right department and the right person, I would have to put them on my speakerphone for a couple of hours every time I called. Once they get to the phone though, they're good. When my pool guy said that the machine was not working correctly, I called American Home Shield to double-check if everything was okay. Spa Doc came out right away and they did a good job on that. The guy assured me that the machine was working fine.

They put the parts request in to American Home Shield. 5 Days later AHS sent an email saying the parts would be ordered. 2 weeks later parts have not arrived. I called them and got a live person after 1/2 hour on hold. She said she would check and then hung up on me. Don't expect good service from these people.

Updated on 01/24/2021: I am still waiting for American Home Shield to either respond to my latest message regarding the lack of action on the ductwork in our home or to refund the $100 service fee that was paid. The ductwork to two of our upstairs registers is faulty and allows warm air to permeate the cold air coming through the vents, leading to moisture buildup and mold problems.
The initial vendor they assigned to the problem claimed that they did not do those types of repairs. The claim remained in limbo for three months until I filed a complaint here. Once the complaint was filed, American Home Shield finally assigned another vendor to investigate the issue, again this is three months after the initial claim. The second vendor was very good and said they were able to fix the issue but they needed to file paperwork with American Home Shield to confirm that the repair would be covered. A week or so after the second vendor came to my home, American Home Shield denied the coverage under the guise of "missing parts". How does ductwork, that worked fine for almost 2 decades only now having issues have "missing parts". But since there is no real way to talk to someone who speaks English well, good luck getting more details.
Original Review: I filed a claim back in July with American Home Shield due to moisture build up around several registers in our ceiling while the air conditioning was running. The moisture buildup is causing damage to the ceiling around the registers as well as causing a mold problem in one location. The warranty company assigned an HVAC company to our claim promptly, but when the contractor arrived I was told that they do not handle these types of repairs.
I have tried to follow-up with American Home Shield three separate times now and keep being told that they were attempting to contact the contractor to get a diagnosis, as apparently they never received one. However, each time, the customer service representative I was speaking to was unable to get in touch with the contractor. Additionally, each time I spoke with the customer service rep, I was told my case was being "escalated" and that I should receive a call within 48-72 business hours. I have yet to receive a call back from any one of the three separate phone calls. So to summarize. Paid $100 to have contractor come to house, said contractor does nothing and tells me his company does not handle this type of repair, attempt follow-up with American Home Shield three separate times, no answers, no repairs, just out $100.

I have been a customer with AHS for approximately 3 years or better. In August of 2020 my refrigerator, dryer, and washer machine were all in need of repair. I placed an order for service and paid my deductible. Sears was my assigned contractor however, upon speaking with the Sears technician I learned that AHS did not assign my ticket over to them correctly and they only received an order for my washer.
I then contacted AHS to make them aware of the error. They then placed another ticket for my dryer and refrigerator which was assigned to a contractor listed as Thermostat. The technician came approximately a week later and he repaired my dryer however, my refrigerator was not making the loud noise at that time. I informed him that it was an intermittent problem and it is very loud and stops cooling. My freezer had just had a new ice maker installed about a month prior by AHS contractor. The contractor then told me to place a recall ticket when the refrigerator malfunctions again. When it did malfunction (which was not long after) I recorded the sound from the fridge and took photos of the condensation build up from lack of cooling and emailed them to the contractor.
The technician was assigned and returned within a week. He then stated he was ordering parts for the refrigerator including a computer panel and some other parts. He also ordered a new freezer door which he informed me that it takes 2-3 weeks for arrival however, he did not inform me that he would NOT come install my other parts when they arrived. It is now October and I reported problems with my refrigerator in August. This is unacceptable service that my appliance is still not repaired. I have lost hundreds of dollars in food that should be refrigerated. In addition, my children home school in my kitchen area which they now cannot because the refrigerator is so loud. It is a nuisance and embarrassing. I even had to cancel an event I was having at my home because the refrigerator was not working and was extremely loud.
I begged AHS to send the Thermostat mechanic back out and they informed me they could not because he cannot come until he has all the parts available. I was given an estimate of an additional 3 weeks for repair. I could not believe my ears. My ears are ringing and we can’t sleep at night due to the sound being omitted from the refrigerator. I was then offered up to 125$ to purchase a mini fridge or rent a refrigerator.
I have a family of 6 which 3 are under the age of 4 and drink gallons of milk per day. In addition, I have to go to the grocery store daily because of this problem causing me exposure to the deadly Coronavirus. I cannot store their milk in a mini fridge. The cost to rent a full size refrigerator is also much more than 125.00 for three weeks. I have requested a supervisor on more than several occasions and I was constantly denied or they said they would email them and someone would call me back and no one ever did. Again it has been over 2 months that my refrigerator has been inoperable.
I finally requested the cancellations department and I spoke with a rep there and she agreed to get another contractor to come back out sooner. I now have to wait until October 15th for them to come and assess the damage. No customer should be treated this way. I pay my premium each month and I paid a 100$ deductible for service and I have NOT received service. This has been one of the most horrible experiences I have encountered.
My children actually consumed sour milk because I did not know the refrigerator had gone out. I have lost approximately 500$ in groceries, I spend extra gas daily to go to the grocery store. Not to mention the countless hours I have spent waiting to speak with a representative and then actually speaking with a rep. I have been hung up on. Supervisors refuse to call back. At this time AHS has agreed to repair my refrigerator for 650$ although it will take 3 weeks for the parts to arrive and technician to repair. Meanwhile I have no refrigerator and I operate a home childcare business.
Good afternoon Toni,

We just had somebody come through and check out the furnace. The contractors were great. They came in COVID-ready with mask, booties and gloves. I appreciated that. I do feel like they did a full checkup on my furnace for me which is what we were looking for.
American Home Shield used to be great before they moved their toll-free number overseas. I get that they're trying to save some money but at whose expense? They send out good companies but to get to them is a pain in the butt. Communication is part of their problem. It's horrible. You start calling early in the morning then when you reach them, everybody is overseas. I can’t understand what they’re saying. They put you on hold and the sound quality is terrible. I did it a couple more times and I was like, “Forget it. I’m just gonna have to roll the dice and try to do this myself online. I hate it because I am a phone person. If they're gonna force us to go online, they should give us more options to select from. They have just basic ones and there's no in between on their website. I’m a phone person because I wanna talk to them to let them know it’s in between.

The garage door would go down, then it would go back up. It would just randomly happen at any time of the day. The contractor that AHS sent came and said they fixed it the first time, but I told them they couldn't have fixed it. Because one time, I opened my door that leads to the garage and the door was up, and I was shocked. So, I called them to come back out and fix it again and they did. They called and told me when they were coming. They did a good job. It's been excellent since then.

I had an issue with my dishwasher and the guy who came out fixed the problem. He did wonderful. He told me what the problem was. He was in and out. He's very professional and knowledgeable. I was glad with him. Sometimes, AHS sent people out and they had to come more than one time. He fixed the job and that was that.
American Home Shield could do better. I've been with them for about five years. I had an incident that I thought that they should fix my shower. A contractor came in and looked at it, and told me that they couldn't fix it. It would cost me like $3,000 to get it fixed. I wasn't pleased with that. I spoke to two different guys from AHS, but they didn't do anything for me. They kept saying that it's in the fine print that AHS doesn't cover this and that. Also, I don't like that paying the $75 out of my pocket every time. I'm already paying 63.99 a month, and then every time they come out, if I had them to come out two or three times a month, I got to pay $75 every time on the service call. That's crazy. I stayed with AHS because I've been with them for about five years. I just didn't wanna change and get another home warranty.
