American Home Shield sent out another repair technician and everything is ok now so I am satisfied now.
Original Review: Nov. 8, 2019
One time, when we turned on the heat, it wouldn't go on. We submitted a claim to AHS and they sent Air First Mechanical. The tech said that there were four lines on my unit and one wasn't lined up. So, when the heat would go on, it wouldn't go completely across 'cause that line wasn't lined up completely. He said that he fixed the issue but then, sometimes when we turn the heat off, it doesn't come back on. When my husband goes down and messes with the unit, it comes on again. I had another tech come out before Air First and the guy who came said that something needed to be replaced. So, I don't think Air First did a thorough job. and I'm not certain that the issue was resolved.
Additionally, I don't like how it takes so long for AHS to get someone out to my location. If it's cold outside, they should send someone immediately. Another time, my refrigerator went out and AHS sent techs who came and fixed it. It took them about three or four days. I kept calling them telling them that I'm diabetic and that I needed my medication cold. They didn't seem to care. I had to throw all my food away. Also, I was using my insulin that time when my blood sugar was so high and I realized that it was too warm. AHS should have someone on-call 24 hours a day.
Good afternoon Mona,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

We’ve had a couple of issues with the house. We've had a breakage underneath the tub. AHS called a plumber out and they said it was not covered. I had no idea why it was not covered. They said, “The pipe was modified.” I said, “I just bought the house. There’s a valve that’s broken.” That was the very first issue, which affected my opinion of them overall. But since we've had Brown Air Conditioning & Heating, our experience has been good. They were absolutely fantastic with the calls, updates, notices, emails, the whole works. But the one I’m dealing with now is another plumber.
There was a blockage in the sink in the wash area, common drain line. I went online and filed a claim on a Thursday and a contractor came out on a Tuesday. It's a rental home and I have a tenant there, and no one from the service company called me. I knew when they were gonna be there, but I was expecting a call, like the diagnosis of the problem. What I got was an email afterwards. And they missed solving the problem because the reason why I called them was there was pipe breakage. They did unclog and they didn’t see any breakage. I gotta call them to confirm that they even checked it.
Good afternoon Tony,
We strive to provide you with a great team of contractors and an even better customer service experience. We hope you continue to enjoy your AHS warranty!

The oven door had a crack in the inside glass and C&R Service Solutions could not replace that, so we had to get a whole new oven. I went with one of American Home Shield's options where they replaced the oven. The new unit was delivered in a week or two when I decided, and then it was installed after three weeks. I am really happy with the new oven because it is one of these microwave combos with the oven beneath it.

My furnace for air conditioning was going off recently and I didn’t have any difficulties with the claim. Prior to this though, I’ve had many difficulties with American Home Shield. Customer service takes down your information and I don’t know what they do with it. Several times for my current information, it’s been put in the system and the information has been put in wrong or the old information has been left there which causes the workers to come out, but they’re calling the old telephone number. Then I’ve had instances with the people that they contract with not showing up for jobs, being very rude and disrespectful, but then still trying to charge for something that they did not show up to. I’ve been thinking about leaving American Home Shield because I don’t like the customer service. I feel like I’m paying for the service that they should have more loyal people for. I’m not satisfied with the service at all.

I kept having problems with the water coming up from the well. The tank was waterlogged and then the jet tip missed. The technicians from DC Jenkins that came out were fantastic! Since then, everything has been good. I've also had an issue with the septic pump. The contractor that AHS sent out fixed that and they went really quick. AHS showed that they got some good people out there that could handle the problem and I was happy with those people.
Hi Eric,
I am pleased to hear about your experience to have the well repaired. I hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield!

I had a claim with AHS and they sent Hayco. Everybody did their job well and I was very impressed. But the heat pump won't adjust correctly and it won't hold heat. I called Hayco and they said I had to call Home Shield. I put in a claim online and it said, "We'll contact the contractor" but I didn't know if they were saying I needed to do it or they were going to. I went to the chat and they told me that they would be getting ahold of Hayco. As far as timeliness, friendliness and the repair people, Home Shield was great and they were very responsive.

Everything went pretty good with my claim. It was for my washing machine, which was leaking out the front. I did the claim online and that was pretty easy. American Home Shield took my claim right online. The only thing was that they sent a text that said they would be calling to schedule an appointment but then they just sent me a text with the time. In my scenario, that worked out fine but I don’t know that that would work for everybody. In the past, I’ve had good and bad people come out for different home warranty companies. It really just depends who comes out. You get a lot of dishonesty in that type of business but the guy who came out from Shoreline Appliance was really good. He showed me how to access it since it was a pretty minor problem and it had happened before. He even showed me how to get to the menu to evaluate it. He was definitely honest too.

CNJ Services came out and they fixed the garbage disposal. They were professional and very prompt. Everything has been resolved. We have American Home Shield for nine years, since we bought the house. When we use them, everything has been fine. I have it just in case ’cause the house was built in ’02. I'm hanging on ’cause I know my air conditioner is gonna crap out. That's a big-ticket item. It's about a $5,000 ticket item. It’s an original unit in the house and I guarantee that as soon as I get rid of the home warranty, it'll crap out.

We had a plumbing issue and that time we were in the midst of having problems with evacuations and power but J & A Plumbing and Rooter still got back to me and set the appointment. The technician came out, and he was in and out in 30 minutes, and it couldn’t have gone smoother. It was very nice to have something that positive happening during that time. Submitting the claim was very simple.
I had a different warranty company the year prior after having a flood in my kitchen for my refrigerator, and I had a couple of claims that did not go smoothly with that company. I got to complaining about it to others and I'd heard so much about American Home Shield that I looked into it. It was less money for the year and I'm very pleased that I changed. The first night that I called, I didn’t realize that I could've called the 24-hour line for the claim, and I did have to wait ‘til Monday. But it wasn’t a big deal. I just learned that if I had pushed a different thing on the phone, I could have gotten somebody 24/7.

Our dishwasher keeps having an error. At first, it showed that it needed a new motor. The technician said that the dishwasher was fairly new but it was showing that it needed a new motor. So he explained it and then they put in a new motor. Then we were running it and it popped up another error and it quit running. The guy came out, and it said it needed a new board so he put in a new one. It was running like how it was set to run and then it just started beeping. When I opened it, there was this error code and it had stopped. The guy said that they were doing everything that it said and he was running it through. He also said that he would let Home Shield know about it and they would have to decide what they would want him to do with it. But I haven't heard anything since.
We’ve kept American Home Shield for years as we've moved around the country in other homes and they’ve always been excellent. They’ve always sent out good workers and have taken care of everything. With our dishwasher claim, they first ordered Texan Appliance to come out and look at it. Then AHS referred the claim to the Coastline Appliance people. They stay in touch, show up on time and explain what they’re doing.
Good afternoon Patricia,
I understand your concerns regarding the issues that have you have experienced to have the dishwasher repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Oasis came and fixed the heater the first time. But less than 24 hours later, it broke. And then, they turned around and claimed that my heater was improperly installed. When they talked to the Home Shield representative, they told them that I had a flawed design, and then they told a different representative that they couldn’t fix it. Oasis called them as soon as they turned around and told me to call them to get a new guy out there. But because it was so cold, I went ahead and paid out-of-pocket and got somebody else to do it. I hired a guy on my own. It was Bryant Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, and they said there was nothing wrong with the machine. After that, I talked to the customer rep and explained. So then, the rep considered we used a different contractor. Home Shield's reps were very polite and courteous on the phone. It was the contractor they’ve sent out that I was really dissatisfied with.

To submit a claim for my AC and heat, I went online. Using American Home Shield's website was easy, straightforward, and simple. It took a week and a half to send a contractor out, but for what it was, it was acceptable. A week and a half isn't the longest. My AC and my heat were not working. The contractor was very knowledgeable. He explained the situation, what he did and what he was doing. He even gave me advice on extra stuff for the AC so it lasts longer.

When I submit claims over the phone, I'm able to get through the process quickly. And American Home Shield is responsive to sending people out. However, lots of times, the companies you get are start-ups and are trying to build their customer base so you don’t always get the best technicians. Normally, the stuff gets fixed though. If you use AHS quite a bit on small things, you won’t get your return on it. But we got it primarily as a buffer for any big-ticket items that we might have like the AC and heat. It works well on that kind of stuff. We’ve been pleased with what we’ve got.

It was determined that my dishwasher needed to be replaced. It took 3 weeks - and I got no information from AHS at all. Had to call again and again - once was on hold for 1 1/2 hours! Finally got delivery, got a phone call when the truck was 20 minutes from my house in the middle of the day without any pre-notice. Had to leave work to meet delivery. HORRIBLE service. I've had my contract for 8 years and this is the first appliance that has had to be replaced. Very dissatisfied!

Absolute worst experience I have ever had with a service company. They don't actually cover what they advertise, they misled us, lied about being denied service on our water heater due to "pre-existing" conditions, when the unit is 15 years old and anyone with a 15 year old water heater would know that EVERYTHING is pre-existing! Yet their salesman and their own advertising material clearly states they cover services at ANY AGE. Yet they actually LIED to us, as I spoke with the company that came out to our home and they told me that AHS actually told them, that we were denied due to contract being only 2 days old. We can't help the fact that our water heater started leaking at that time. So based on their "theory", let's say you buy a new car, get insurance, drive the car off the dealers' lot, and get into a wreck. So the insurance company going to deny the claim due to "only being under contract for 1 day?" NO. Worst company I have EVER dealt with.
Ralph,
I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your experience with us. Thank you for speaking with me in an attempt to reach a resolution. I regret that the warranty does not cover for malfunctions that occur prior to the active date of the contract. Take Care.

I have held this policy for 6 years. Needed to use it for the second time due to broken water heater. Put service request in Sunday night. Called first thing Monday morning to be told plumber was not available until Tuesday. Customer service could care less about the issue customer is going through. Asked to speak with supervisor; they declined to take the call. UNBELIEVABLE! Plumber finally comes out at 4pm on Tuesday to do a repair outside of what's covered. Same issue occurs 2 hours after they leave. Clearly their "fix" did not work.
Call the next morning and they do not come out until 5pm and then tell me replacement is needed. Told me that American Home Shield only authorizes repair with shoddy quality heater and to go with upgrade. Guess what, more $$ out of pocket. Have paid for this warranty for 6 years only to be out of pocket $1500. Save your money and bank it for these types repairs instead of paying this scam of a company that wouldn't know customer service if it hit them in the face. I am canceling our policy today. Waste of money and horrible service!!!!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

On November 7 2019 my hot water went out. After calling AHS they set up my service. They could not service me till November 11. That's 5 days with no hot water. How long could you not shower, wash clothes, dishes? I was told this is well within American Home Shield's guidelines. I was told over and over there is nothing they could do.
The contractor wasn't even in my area code! After arguing with the customer service rep in India they put me on hold then ended the call. I called back asking again for a supervisor. All along being denied access to a supervisor. Told I will be on hold while they search for an available supervisor. Again telling the customer rep I was disabled. After not letting up. All of a sudden he heard me. Disabled he said let me see what's in our guidelines. He changed my work order and assigned me a new contractor. I was on the phone with them over an hour. My opinion if I were you find a different home warranty company. I won't renew!!!!!!!

If I could put a zero I would. We have been dealing with a septic problem for over 3 weeks now since reporting to AHS. First contractor no showed. They wouldn't assign another one until they too could not reach them. Second contractor came out, did not do the free pump, diagnosed as a broken pump, and never submitted quote (All Pro Septic). We have been on phone with AHS for 12-15 calls equaling hundreds of hours, and they continuously read from same script. The rep says they need to call All Pro and get Dx and cost prior to the next step - we are in this loop for 2 weeks now - contractor is not submitting and AHS rep will not let us talk to manager or Options Specialist. Our own septic people will charge way less than what their contractor quoted at $1200. We want AHS to give us the Cash Out option that one rep explained to us, but they won't transfer you to that department unless it's closed.
I repeatedly asked to talk to a manager after being told on at least 4 separate calls spanning one week to call back in a few hours to allow contractor a chance to submit, and they would not transfer, rather put me on a dead hold with no music. AHS has terrible customer service. They want your money but sure do not want to help an issues THAT IS COVERED BY MY PLAN. They also need to have more reputable contractors. If the contractor will not submit, AHS has to have a next step. I truly feel as though they are waiting for our plan to expire. I have never dealt with this bad of service in my life, especially when it is dealing with a major issue in our home that we have paid to have coverage for.
Good afternoon Valerie,

Anyone considering AHS should read the fine print in the contract and make sure that they are very much aware of what is and what is not covered and what the exceptions are. When I had an issue with my water heater, it wasn’t covered because what was causing it to malfunction had to do with the venting to the outside. I was pissed because why am I paying for a warranty if when I need to use it, there's gonna be some little exception. I didn't understand why venting wasn’t covered. I paid $50 a month for it, they didn't help me with the first thing that I needed. It wasn't a very good first experience, but the experience with my microwave was a lot better.
There was something that looked like lightning bolts happening in the microwave. It was charring some of the food. And it started making these weird, crunching sounds. The weird part was that when the technician took it apart, he couldn't find anything wrong with it. He also ran it a bunch of times, but couldn't replicate the problem. Then later that day, it happened again. American Home Shield is now gonna replace it. They offered me something and it’s supposed to be installed in the next week. I put the order in on Sunday and I was told it would take five to seven business days. When I call AHS, I usually have to wait a long time and then I get somebody who can’t speak very good English so I found that submitting claims online is a lot easier.
Your feedback about both of your American Home Shield experiences is more than appreciated. I hope you continue to enjoy many more good experiences.

One of the first things I filed with American Home Shield was not handled properly. I was very disappointed in the vendor that came out. I ended up having to hire my own plumber because I just didn't agree with what he was saying, and that plumber actually verified what I thought. I thought it was a claim that Home Shield should've honored but they didn't. We started off on the wrong foot undoubtedly but I've had the warranty for about 3 years now.
In a recent claim, my faulty hot water tank had to be replaced and After Hours Plumbing & Pump Service was the assigned contractor. Because of where the tank was and the damage that had occurred structurally, I had to pay to have it disconnected so I could make the structural repair. After Hours said they couldn't come and detach it then come back and install the new one. They could only make one trip. So, I had to pay somebody to do that. I know that Home Shield doesn't do structural work and I don't know what my options were, but that's the best they could do. I also was not satisfied with the timeframe for them to come out, but I didn't have any choice. I was without the hot water tank for 2 days. Other than that, I had very good interactions with After Hours.

We had no air conditioning and while we have the American Home Shield coverage, we also have coverage through a local company, Haines HVAC, and they’re usually out within about four hours. That was not my experience with American Home Shield. There were times when it was gonna be fours days before somebody was gonna get to me. I can’t have in a vacation home where somebody goes there for a week, and four days they’re sitting there in extremely hot temperatures. But it has gotten better with AHS.
Integrity, AHS' contractor came to look at the system, and they said the condenser was shot they needed to replaced it. They would cover that but they would charge $500 to refill it with the new coolant. Haines HVAC said the same thing, that the condenser was shot, but they would not charge for the new coolant. They also offered some help with the new system. We could have refused it but we would have paid more through Integrity and Haines is kind of a backup coverage with American Home Shield where I need somebody I can trust that’s gonna be there in a very timely manner especially on something like air conditioning in Florida. But Integrity was fine. It was just they didn’t cover as much.
We've been with American Home Shield for several years. We have an older home so unfortunately for them, we’ve used them quite a bit. With our water heater claim, they said they would replace it but I could have the option of cashing out. If I was gonna cash out, they were gonna give me $440. If I got somebody else to do it, it was gonna be almost $700. Sometimes, the buyout option is not very attractive because they’re not giving you enough to really cover what you would need. AHS doesn't pass along to their customer what they’re actually saving, unless that is actually what they’re saving. It doesn’t seem fair unless you’re getting the work done. There are no other options. And so, it’s not as attractive as some of the deals that you can work out with other people.
Then their price went up significantly. But I’m not canceling their service. It is nice with American Home Shield. Before, when I first started with them, I really had to call them and I could be on hold for an hour and 15 minutes to get through to a person. And now, it’s pretty simple. I can do it on my smartphone. I go in and put what it is. They’ve made a lot of changes and I've talked to them when I've had issues.
Your feedback to American Home Shield is more than appreciated. I am glad to hear about the additional coverage that assisted with the repair and I hope you continue to enjoy!

The garage door was going up and down but it was not closing. When I pressed the button on the doorway, it flapped open back and forth until finally, it went down. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the guy who came out was prompt and professional. He was in-and-out and he did a great job. So, no problems there but I had one with DC Plumbing. I had a pipe leak that got into my closet and the floor was flooded as well as the hallway. DC came out, looked at it and said that they couldn’t tell what it is and where it’s coming from. They would have to have sonar come in but I have to put in a request to American Home Shield. Then, they dropped the ball and I never heard from them again.
When I called the home office and spoke to a customer rep, they said that they filed a report that the problem was in my garage and it was leaking, which was totally false and inconsistent with what was going on. It was like they were at a totally different house and I have no idea where they got that report from. That was my first claim, so that was kind of a turn-off. I had to call an outside plumber and he came out and said that same thing that the guy from DC Plumbing said. There would be sonar involved but before he left, he took a look at it again. He said it looked like it was coming from the next-door unit. My son, who’s not a professional, but has installed telephone equipment and knows layouts in homes said that it looked like it was coming from the neighbor’s bathroom because they’re back-to-back.
From Wednesday to Saturday, it was unresolved and I had water pumping into my home. I was getting nowhere with American Home Shield with the DC Plumbing and when I called to talk to them, DC had nothing to do with plumbing. It was only with the electrical issue with the heating and gas. So I got ran around on that first try in fixing it. Finally, on Saturday morning, the neighbor said that there was water underneath her toilet. So, it was fixed and that was what it was. I was dissatisfied with the way that first case was handled but it eventually got resolved and I was able to get my reimbursement from AHS for my payout in both plumbing situations and that kinda eased the pain. But another thing I didn’t appreciate was the language barrier when I called the customer service at American Home Shield. Although the reps were courteous and very professional, most of them were kinda hard to understand.
Your feedback about American Home Shield is more than appreciated. I hate to hear about your experience to have the plumbing leak repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I initially called AHS and scheduled them to come and check out my boiler, to fix it, but I got a email saying that they had a special going on, that they would do a tune-up to see if anything was going on with my boiler. I called AHS and I cancelled my schedule for them to come out and fix the boiler. The rep that I spoke with said that they would go over it and if anything was wrong, they would fix it. So, they set up the appointment. When the technician came out, he verified something was wrong with my boiler, but he said he would not fix it, which was troubling because the AHS rep said it would be fixed. So, I still have an issue with my boiler. But JE Johnson did a thorough job with the heating issue. I contacted AHS and they said they would listen to the phone call but I haven’t heard back from them. I called them last Friday and I haven’t heard anything back.
I apologize for the inconvenience Omarr. I can understand your frustration with trying to get your boiler installed. My name is Stacy and I've emailed.

We had American Home Shield added to our home when we purchased it in 2016. We have found benefit in it and we auto-renew every year, and we are gonna keep it as long as we own our home. We had an issue, though, because when we submitted a claim for the washing machine, we didn't hear anything for two weeks. I called them back about it and they said they were gonna try and contact somebody else because the rest of the people who usually come to this area were booked out until the middle of November. My washing machine was on the fritz, and with my children, my husband and myself, I’m not gonna go to those laundromat when I don’t have to.
So, they contacted a company out of Red Oak, who then called me and were here within an hour. They told me about trying to see something if it would fix the issue, and then called me back within a couple of days later saying they were going to order a part. They called me on the day that it was in and asked to have it installed. They were prompt and courteous, and they took care of the issues very quickly.

NW Sundance Services worked on my toilet three different times now. The first time, they replaced the stopper, and then it started doing it again. And then the second time, they came out and they replaced the flapper and the fill valve, and it was doing better. Recently, out of the blue, it started running every eight minutes. When the guy came from the contractor came out, it did not do it anymore. It was very frustrating. He sat there patiently waiting for it to do it. Then he replaced the flapper and he used some of my cleaner and put it in the tank, and it was not leaking under the tank or into the bowl. Now, it seems to be okay.
This particular tech also always offered to do something for additional charges. He said, “The next thing would be to replace all the gaskets, and since it’s not doing it right now, if it starts doing it again, you can call me back out. But for $80, I can go ahead and take care of all of that for you, and you won’t have to worry about a second service call.” I said, “You know, that is why I have the home warranty, so I don’t have to come up with those extra costs.” The first time he came out, there was the water heater and the garbage disposal, and it seemed like everything was another, “Oh, but for this, I could do more.” The second guy that came out did not do any of that. Nevertheless, overall, American Home Shield is responsive on things, but they don't have very many people in the area to service appliances. I’ve had some appliance issues and it had been difficult to get things taken care of. They are working on them now, but it took a few different phone calls.

American Home Shield offered a service for 75 bucks to service your heater system. The guy who came was polite, on time, a jovial guy. He seemed to know what he was doing and checked the system out. It all went accordingly well. There are some things going on nationwide regarding Freon and I used the information he gave me to start my investigation. Everything that I’ve had done was done appropriately. I’ve had work done on my microwave my house and my second home. I also had work done on my washing machine here at my primary residence. I had a faucet system at the washroom and a toilet clogged up. Overall, my AHS experience has been really positive.

We were concerned we had a gas leak so I requested for service online and AHS's website was good. It really was easy to navigate and I do like that I can just submit the claim online instead of having to call and be on hold. After I submitted the claim, somebody called me within 24 hours and arranged the time, and they told me when to expect somebody to come out. The gentleman from Dahn AC and Heating that came out was nice. He came by to look at the furnace and we did not have a gas leak. He was quick and he did a good job. The interaction was a positive one and the service was good. We felt safe that we didn't have a gas leak and that we could turn on the gas or the burner without worrying about the house blowing up. I'd tell others that I've had a good experience and that they should consider using AHS.

I’ve used Home Shield many times. So far, I’ve had two claims with Home Shield this year and they’ve both been great. I had an air conditioning claim and they sent Total Air Care. I’m gonna recommend that company and that guy again because my experience was amazing. He was awesome, gave quick response, was on time, and was very courteous, informative, and knowledgeable. I’ve also had a good experience before when my refrigerator was acting up. They sent me Bert and Appliance and they were good, too. I do my claims by email, and we always get a quick response. We had a problem with our air conditioner. We are new homeowners and we had it on since we moved in August. But the weather got lovely so we shut it off for a couple of weeks. When we went to put it back on, it never kicked in. We couldn't get the fan to do whatever it was supposed to do. The same was true of the heat and everything else. We didn't know if there was a problem with the thermostat controlling the unit or where the issue was.
My husband submitted a claim for it online. He found the with American Home Shield site acceptable as he did not mention any issues or concerns. But it ended up taking a little while for a contractor to come out. My husband was away on business and didn't have access to the internet. There were several delays that I don't think were necessarily the business response side of things.
When the contractor came, he seemed fine and the problem was an easy fix. Our float switch was just stuck, so it needed to be reset which was a very small thing. I had hoped that he would've been more forthcoming about how we can fix that ourselves in the future, but he wasn't. That was something that I had to look up and it is very easy to do. Other than that, everything has been working exactly as it ought to be. It was a great experience.

The tech fixed the issue very quickly during that visit. It didn't take him very long at all to figure out what it was. Since then, the dryer has been fine. I’ve been happy with AHS so far. My first claim with them was a major debacle ‘cause it ended up being two things. We called for what we thought was one and it caused more problems, so it was a very extensive endeavor on our part. I came home from a trip out of town and found out that my air conditioning wasn't working. I put in a request and somebody texted telling me when the techs were coming out. When they came, they checked out everything and told me I needed a capacitor. In the end, they fixed the air conditioner and I was very pleased with them. They did what I asked them to do. The tech was nice and courteous and he wore little booties so he didn't mess up my house. I got what I needed and it worked just fine.
Although I've had a couple of things that Home Shield didn't cover that wound up costing me a fair amount of money, my experiences with them have been mostly satisfactory. AHS is fine for someone who doesn't have time to deal with finding somebody to fix things and who can afford that monthly fee and the $75 co-pay at the beginning or if that person have time and patience to deal with finding service people and patience. The warranty is a little pricey but for me, it works.

It was my fault. And so I called, and he came right out the same day. He was on time and he cleaned neatly. He checked everything out and said that it is a good unit and it is well taken care of. He did a excellent job and I really liked him. I got his card, so whenever I need to work on my unit I am going to ask for them. However, I tried to add the dryer to a claim I did for my washer but the site wouldn’t let me click on anything else. That was strange because it was gonna be the same vendor coming out and they could check the dryer too. On a claim I did for the plumbing, it allowed me to add multiple things. I'm also paying an extra $10 a month for our hot tub spa but when I tried to submit something on it, it's not in my list. A guy from Sears came out and he was awesome and super helpful. The communication about coming out was great as well. In his first visit, he did ticket the problem that it needed a part. Then he came back with the part and tested it, which we were really grateful. The part didn’t do what it was supposed to do so he investigated further and there was a wire that was dysfunctional. He fixed that and then tested it. The dishwasher ran and it has been running since. I had an issue with the refrigerator a couple of weeks before, where it didn't seem to hold temperature. The icemaker wasn't making any ice. American Home Shield replaced the icemaker and it worked, but they didn't resolve the issue of the refrigerator not holding temperature. So, I had to file a second claim and pay a second deductible to finalize it. And it costs $75 each time you do that. It could have been resolved in one claim rather than two. Sometimes, with their requirement for saying that it's a different claim, it feels like you're getting nickel and dimed.
The technician said it was a coolant leak up in the housing of the refrigerator, which couldn't be repaired without destroying the equipment because it's a sealed unit. So, he diagnosed that it was unrepairable. American Home Shield gave replacement options but I decided to take cash in lieu of a replacement unit because they were on sale at Lowe's, so I was able to get a better refrigerator than what was offered. They said it could take a week to get approved, and then, we should be getting a check within 21 days.

I reported what I thought was a water heater leak, and it turned out to be a hose leak instead. I was happy to see that it was not the water heater and it's just a water leak. However, when the contractor who performed the service was about ready to leave, I went back to the door where the water heater is and it was still spurting water. He said, "No, no, no, I haven't finished yet." And I said, "Well, I hope not." But that didn't go well. He was very discourteous and he basically threw the bill on my face. I complained about him to Home Shield but I don't know what came of it as I've never heard anything back. I also called his boss and I haven't heard back from him either. While the leak has stopped, that was not a good experience.
In another claim, Anthem Mechanical of Palm Springs performed a preseason checkup and everything went fine. I was a little surprised he did it so fast. He was only here for a half an hour so I questioned him on it and he said, "Well, I'm early because you don't have a lot of stuff on that furnace that normally would take some time." And that was acceptable. He seemed very professional and he did a fine job.

I've had AHS for 10 years and they’re fantastic. They're quick to acknowledge my concerns. Recently, both my toilets in the house were whistling every time they flushed and I had a problem with the on/off knobs of my showers in both bathrooms. One of them was completely stripped and wouldn’t open, and the other one was so tight, you needed a bodybuilder to turn it on. There was also a leak in one of my faucets. I submitted my claims with AHS and they sent out Heros Plumbing Service. American Home Shield had them come to my home before on a couple of other things and they were very friendly. They sent two people who took care of the issue and explained everything that they did. I was very impressed.
Other than that, whenever I had a claim to submit, I’d rather speak to somebody at AHS because I ran into a difficulty earlier this year when I was trying to do it through the prompt on the phone and it didn’t pick up one of the concerns that I had transmitted. There were two issues for the same area and it only recorded one. And I ran into a problem when the contractor came out. They said that there was only one issue, not two, and when I called American Home Shield, they told me I would have to make a separate service call for the other issue. I had to explain to them that I placed the claim for the two issues at the same time but in the end, it was resolved in my favor and they didn’t charge me another service fee for the second issue. So, I've been impressed with American Home Shield and I have no complaints.

I called the phone number of AHS for reporting that I had a problem with the sump pump that they use for when you have a bathroom down in the lower level. Everything was great with the rep I spoke with and after they got my 75 bucks, they sent the plumber out. When he came in, he brought a young fellow who was just learning. He was sitting on the bucket and he was teaching this younger fella how to do what they needed to do with my sump pump. It has been in there for 30 years since I built the house and it was filthy. It was horrible and it's used for a toilet. The toilet goes in there then it pumps everything up to the septic system. So this pump is not just for the water. It's also for septic stuff and it's a special sump pump.
When the techs were here, they pulled it out and it was dripping all over the place. And the younger guy was gonna walk out through my basement, up my stairs, then out the front door and walk through my hallway with this thing dripping. But the guy that was training him told him that they needed to cover it so it would not be dripping. So everything was fine and I was glad that I didn't have to do it.
Then the plumber looked at the pump and said it was not gonna be just a $250 or $350 job. He said that he had to go back and see if AHS would cover it, so he went back out into the car and called American Home Shield to see if they were gonna cover the unit as it is. He got the okay to charge more money, which was $900, and in the end, the service cost me $75. But I sell the policy because I'm a realtor and I tell my customers that they ought to have it. Maybe that's why AHS gave me the deal.
Other than that, they also replaced a water heater with the service and that was good. That water heater was in there for a long time, too. By now, they've done two things on that dime that I spent for my American Home Shield policy and I don't have anything else that can be done under that policy. I'm paying by the month and now that there's nothing more that I can get out of it, I was wondering if I could cancel it. I'll check with the gal that takes care of us, but I'm pretty sure you gotta keep paying even though they've done the job. I got my money's worth out of it, though.

He ran a spin, listened to the washing machine, pushed and pulled the basket and then made his diagnosis. It took about 15 minutes. The whole basket had gone out. There was a bent spindle and he told me that it would cost more to fix it than to replace the washing machine. Rather than mixing and matching our washer-dryer, we bought a similar washer. It's a newer model but with the same features. Its color matches and we were able to use the same drawer underneath it. It was in the $1,098 range. The replacement got installed yesterday and we have to submit the receipt. All in all, I have no complaints.

Plus when I ask them to submit the actual paperwork, they don’t. I haven't received anything with two of my cases. I've been with American Home Shield for 15 years and I've been okay with them with the other issues. But they changed a lot. They take too long. They should streamline their online process, when you submit your paper. And with the contractor, it’s very detached. AHS also does outsourcing for their call centers. Sometimes, I have a hard time understanding the rep so I have to repeat what I said. Maybe they don’t understand what I'm stating as well.

For six years we've been with American Home Shield, we always have great service any time we had to place a call or an order. I’m a real estate agent and I always recommend it to my people, to my clients that I worked with. My experience with the garage door claim was perfect. The online process was easy. I put the order on Sunday morning and the guy called me first thing Monday to talk to me about what the issue was so that it didn’t delay time for him to have to come out and then not have the part he needed. Then we set up a time. He came prepared, fixed it, and it was good to go.

When I first started with them a couple of years ago, the customer service wasn’t that great. But they’ve really gotten better with the customer service. The contractors that have come out to my home were topnotch. Even if something is not correct at the first time, they're very kind enough to send them back depending if they're dealing with the same situation. I like them. I’m pleased. Hebert Plumbing Contractors came out and they did a really good job. They replaced the toilet ring. It’s like a seal that wasn’t working right. It cracked and that was where the leak was. They said the issue was just the ring. They even called me in there to show me it was all black around it and everything where they said that it looked like sewage was coming back up. But my husband said that might have just been mold too. They offered to clean the black around the bottom under the toilet. They took the toilet off and asked if I had a cleaner so they could clean it for me. While they had it off, they cleaned it all up, asked for a trash bag and threw everything away. I was impressed with the care that they took and everything that they did.
They really did take extra care after for the trash, but they didn't want any protection. They said, “Our hands are already in it. Just give us the stuff and we’ll clean it all up for you.” And that really was above and beyond. I haven't had anybody take that kind of care yet, so I was really impressed with them. But the other two that have come out before them really sucked.
I just renewed and this is my second year with AHS. I was a little disappointed because I’m still working on two claims from before I renewed, so I’ve been a little upset because it has taken so long to get things settled. And I’ve got one that’s still ongoing. The dishwasher was one that I had done from the very beginning. They came out, didn't fix anything, and I just got so frustrated that I just didn't call anybody back out. I paid for that twice now for it to get resolved. I’ve called and called, and nobody ever knows anything when I call. They always tell me to be patient and I've been patient. It has been going on since before July and it’s November now. It's ridiculous.
I found out that with one of the claims, AHS was supposed to replace the item and nobody ever contacted me. When I got this last person, I asked to speak to a supervisor. Of course, they never wanna give you the supervisor. So, he did a bit more digging, and he found out that I was supposed to be getting the item replaced. He was the one that took the extra step to make sure I got to that person. So, when I talked to that person, I said I called and called, but they said that I wasn't in the right department. I said, “It shouldn’t matter. The note that you have that you’re replacing the item should be available to everybody that pulls up this account. Because if I’m calling and I’m not getting to the right place, it’s not my fault. Somebody needs to be able to see those notes that you guys have made that you’re replacing the item. I should’ve gotten to the right person months before I did.”
They said they sent me an email, but I never got it. Apparently, they sent that out in September and I never got it. So, I’ve wasted two more months of waiting. But I’ve called several times since then. It could’ve been resolved a lot earlier if those notes would've been available. Somehow, whatever notes, whatever their department, is doing is not available to the other. That was what they kept telling me, but it shouldn’t be that way. If you pull up an account to look at it, somebody should’ve known earlier that I was not in the right department and transferred me over.
It was all disappointing that it could’ve been resolved a lot earlier and it hasn’t been. And then the other one is still ongoing. They just told me that the guy has had the part for a month and he has never called me. And I’ve called and left messages for him. So, it was a big relief to have the plumbing one fixed so effortlessly. I was really on the fence before the plumber came out. The plumber got AHS up a notch.

That was when they transferred the ticket to Home Choice Services. When the plumber came out, he tested everything and said, "Yes, your garbage disposal is gone." We changed the garbage disposal, but it still wouldn't work. He said, "Now, it's gotta be the switch." He called a supervisor and the supervisor showed him how to bypass it and everything is working perfectly now. He knew exactly what he was doing. I love him. If it happens again, I'd send him back. The contractor responded right away for the washing machine. His service was great. He had the part and replaced the sensor for the vibration. This claim was easy to do. But the washing machine almost never goes through a cycle without stopping multiple times because the vibration trips. This machine was in the house when we got here in the house. If you go online and you look at this model, a bazillion people have this problem. It can never be fixed. Samsung's official line is, "Well, you know, it's still gonna go out of balance now again. I'm sorry, you put a small load in there and it goes out of balance. It takes six hours to do the laundry, so you gotta remember to look and see if it stops." So I didn't pursue any further. I'm not going to pay $75 again to get somebody to come out again when the product is faulty. We figured we're gonna buy a new washer when we have the money.

AHS's claim process was a piece of cake. I submitted a service request to them for a pre-season check-up and Cozy Comfort Heating & Cooling came out, and they did a perfect job. The tech texted me and wanted to come in early. I said I couldn’t and he came out at 1 o’clock. He was willing to be flexible and he was very polite as well. He fixed everything and everything seems to be running smoothly now. The other that was nice about AHS was when I filed a claim for a furnace. I got the email for that, which was great. It just took me two seconds to sign up for it, and that was nice too. In fact, they charged me directly so I didn’t have to worry about that. American Home Shield is doing much better when I put the claim in. I do it online. Before, we have to make a call. Normally, I have to call the contractors but sometimes, they call me saying, “Hey, we got your claim. We’re ready to come back to your place to fix the issue.” So, it’s pretty decent. I had a claim and I had a problem when the initial guy came and didn’t fix the problem. He said he was gonna report it, but I didn’t realize he just could not do it. AHS had to refer me a second contract.
The second contractor came in and said the first one didn't do it and that he was gonna order the parts. But there was a miscommunication. I thought he ordered the parts. I waited for two weeks and nothing happened. So, I called AHS and found out AHS ordered the parts. They delivered the parts to the contractor and the contractor came back. At the end of the day, they fixed the problem, so I was happy about that. I just hope AHS doesn’t bump up my price every year. We use them for 30 years and I see the price keeps going up. They gotta make adjustments, but they should not make that much adjustments.

AHS was called to repair my washing machine in August. At that time faulty parts were installed by the contractor. By September the installed part failed and my machine began leaking all over my laundry room causing damage to the surrounding area. AHS was called again to repair the machine. After this was done, the machine got replaced. Yay! However, they refused to fix the water damage to my home due to original faulty repair.
AHS is stuck on secondary damage and not being responsible for damage caused by contractors. Currently I am working with the BBB, but I get the same response from AHS over and over. AHS why is it my responsibility to fix that you have caused to my home? Why aren't you compelling your contractors to fix damage they caused and pushing lawsuits against them for the cost?
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

There were no problems with the AC claim where Delton's Heating and Air Conditioning came. That was resolved quickly. I stopped American Home Shield because I have another home in another town, Raton, New Mexico, and there was a more serious issue, electrical fire, and they couldn't find anyone to dispatch out there to take a look at it. The other thing was that I was paying every month and $100. I could've had any HVAC guy go out for the same amount of money. I don't have to keep paying this copay. So I decided that it was not really gonna suit my purposes anyway. AHS should have a wider scope or network of technicians and if there are none in the particular area, then I should've been told they didn't have anybody or enough participating contractors in the area. I felt like I spent $300 on these monthly payments, and I got no return for my money.

Palmetto Appliance has repaired another item or two for us since we’ve been here, and they’ve just been fantastic.
We’ve had a couple of problems with heating and air conditioning, and it doesn’t seem like AHS has a handle on vendors in our area. It has been sort of sketchy on that. Our air conditioner completely died on us last summer when it was 100 degrees outside. The first appointment was two weeks, and then the contractor cancelled on us. It was not pleasant. American Home Shield's online process is really easy and functional. It's just annoying that every time I had to make a claim, the website takes me to a new log-in page even though I'm already logged in. But once I'm logged in the second time, it actually works well. I just say what I want and I usually get a call within an hour from the service provider. The latest one I had, At Your Pool Service, was fantastic. I'm impressed with their timeliness, friendliness and courtesy. They're also flexible and they do a great job.
However, I also had a few companies that were really crooked. I wouldn't trust them in my house by themselves with my wife. I had people come out for the garage door, which was a negative experience. Sometimes, I'm also not happy with AHS' coverage. They charge me $75 to send somebody out to fix something then tell me it's not covered even though I told them which part was broken. But then, with a few really bad experiences, all of a sudden there would be one where they buy me a new fridge or a new heater, and the whole year is paid for. I cancelled them once and went with a different company but they completely sucked. They were fraudulent and they promised all kinds of things, but then everything was divided into fractions, like covering only 10-15% of the value. American Home Shield doesn't do that. They're a good company.

With this claim, I had to call my local rep because their contractor was not gonna come out. And she was great. The contractor that came out was fine. We had to order a part, so it took another couple of days for the AC to be fixed. And I still had to pay $500 for the Freon. But it's okay now. I've been with AHS for more than a year now. I wish their monthly price was lower. We have two properties and I have this one property that started out at $41, and now it has jumped to $45, and I don’t know why because I’m seeing some other home warranty companies that are starting to get a little less. AHS pricing has to come down a little.

Supreme Service Group, AHS' contractor was great. I really liked them and their tech was very professional. He explained what was wrong with the dishwasher and recommended it to be replaced. He said that AHS would call me in 24 to 48 hours. I didn't hear from AHS so I called them. This has been my experience with AHS in the sense that they don't follow up and send me in circles.
I called one number and AHS' system transferred me to another number and they handled everything from there. The rep sent me an email. I followed up in writing with AHS and did a follow-up call the next day to make sure that they received what I wrote. The rep I spoke to took all my information again over the phone 'cause she didn't receive the email I sent. Now, my dishwasher is ordered and it should take about 10 days to come in.
I've been with AHS for 24 years and they started out very good. Over the course of the years, my experience has been horrible. Our furnace broke in the winter and I probably went two months without heat trying to work with them. The same thing happened again with another furnace that we have in another room. For that, it was six weeks without heat in that room. After my contract is up, I'll no longer be with American Home Shield.

Now, I have a built-in microwave that’s not working and I have cabinetry around it. American Home Shield sent me three options and I’m scared I’m gonna buy something that doesn’t work in this spot. AHS said that once I make the choice, it would be mine. I have a couple of friends who said not to let AHS do anything with my cabinetry 'cause they’d send me something that wouldn't fit but it would be mine. I have thirty days to figure this out. I don’t know what I’m going to do because I can’t have a kitchen looking like a hot mess. I haven’t called American Home Shield back because it seems to me that somebody who knows what they’re talking about should come out here first. My hot water started running out really quickly with all of the water outlets in the house- showers, faucets, and baths. I submitted a claim American Home Shield for them to check it out and fix it. The website was straightforward and the UX on it was solid compared to most others. It said that I would be quickly contacted by the contractor. Then I got an email a few hours later telling me who it was. The contractor who came was nice, friendly, courteous, and on time. He was here for around 30 minutes. He explained what he was doing and why he was doing it in detail. He also told me what I could do in the future to prevent a similar problem. Having AHS is a good deal. With it, I don't have to worry about contacting a manufacturer or worry if my appliances have warranties on them. Plus, it's convenient and relatively inexpensive.

When my furnace stopped working completely and was just blowing air, I put a claim in at night. The contractor came the next morning and they were very friendly. The tech, Brandon, was a very nice guy and gave me lots of knowledge about my system. They had to order a part, which came in three days later. He then went down and did the job. Then he filled out the paperwork, emailed it to me and was on his way. It was a great experience.

We filed a claim with a plumbing company. They had to come in and cut holes in the wall to get to the pipes to repair the plumbing, and they didn't fix the drywall. So AHS had to submit to another company for the drywall. After the service was complete, the drywall company contacted us. The contractor was great. It was the actual drywall company that informed us that the only thing they did was they put the piece of drywall back in the wall, and they put mud around it, and that was it. And we were told that we had to finish the job. We had to wait for it to dry, put more mud on it, wait for it to dry, put more mud on it, fan it down, and then paint it, which we were unaware of. American Home Shield didn't tell us that.
We have a house that, putting the term in the most legitimate way, was built by crackheads. Everything since we have moved in has been, one by one, falling apart. And as a family of five with one income, AHS seemed like the best option with everything that's constantly going wrong. My father in-law gifted it to us. He paid the first year and said, "You guys need this after everything that's going on." AHS has been excellent. Everything has been great.

The fan motor in the AC died and the online process of making the claim at AHS was very simple and easy. It was over the weekend, and the rep from Legend Service Center was out here on Monday at about noon. He had to look at the part and had a different part because it was an older unit, so he needed to go back and get a lower rpm unit. And so, he ran back to his shop and came back. We were back up and running by 2 o’clock. I haven't had to run the air conditioner much except for the last few days, but it’s been working great.

And then, we scheduled the service for whatever was convenient for me. The contractor was very professional and arrived on time. Everything worked fine. They sent me a checklist telling me everything that they did and everything checked out all right. They didn't find any issues.

American Home Shield had the best policy. My experience was fine. I had a lot of problems with the plumbing, and they were out here about four times with the plumbing and one time with the dishwasher, but it’s fixed now. The technicians were excellent. With the plumbing, we had a problem and they thought it was fixed. It wasn’t fixed. He put in a new garbage disposal, and it ended up leaking. But they always came back and fixed it. So, they were very good technicians. I keep getting a bill, though. But it had all been taken care of, and I sent a note back.

American Home Shield has been great since we’ve had them in the last couple of years. Anything that comes up, they seem to cover at least partially. Recently, there was a gas leak under the house so I submitted a claim online. I called after that because we preferred Kemper Plumbing. The AHS rep I spoke with was great. I was told that I’d be notified in the next 24 hours by the subcontractor. Kemper Plumbing has been fantastic and we’ve always had good results from them that is why we typically prefer them whenever we need a plumber.

My furnace would work but then its fan and elements wouldn't turn off. I had to close the breaker and called in a claim to American Home Shield. Their process was very simple for me. AHS set the referral to Choice Electric who contacted me. Choice Electric's techs had to come three times. Every time they came out, they found something else that was wrong. First, they replaced the thermostat. But then, when they went to shut down the furnace, the tech said it'd be a slowdown. It all goes from a high speed to a low speed and it shuts down. It wouldn't kick off like I had initially told them.
At that point, the tech realized it wasn't the thermostat and he said he had to come back to see if they can get the board replaced. He came back again, he realized that he couldn't get the board, so they were just gonna do a rewire of something. So he came back the third time and rewired, and it's been working great ever since. I'm very happy with the service from AHS. It is well worth it.

American Home Shield did awesome for my washing machine and my dishwasher. I have been recommending them because of my experience to date. However, I was disappointed when I called them for a plumber. My bathroom was flooding and they wanted to wait till the next day to send me a plumber. I was literally out of towels and I was wringing them out, coming back in and soaking it the best I could. So, I had to insist, and American Home Shield finally got someone to come out a few hours later. It was around midday when I called them, and then they said somebody would be here around 3:00 but the plumber actually got here about closer to 5:00. All he did was put a wrench to it, and it stopped the water flow.
The plumber then contacted a water mitigation guy who did nothing. He just said it all needs to be ripped out and then asked for my homeowner’s insurance information. So, I went ahead and spoke to my homeowner’s insurance themselves. They sent their water mitigation guy out, and he actually did what American Home Shield is supposed to do, which is to put the machines on to dry everything up. The only thing American Home Shield is gonna do is replace one faucet.
The people came back today, and had to rip out the cabinet and cut out part of the wall. The water went underneath the floor so part of my flooring in the bedroom is ripped out. But can you imagine if I waited till the next day? I wish American Home Shield would train their people that if someone is having water flowing in their home, that’s considered, “We need to take care of this right now,” situation.

I'm very frustrated. Six years ago, my old water heater broke and Old Republic honored the claim even though that water heater was not even strapped. It was really not up to code. They replaced the water heater and I paid over $1,000 for bringing everything up to code that was not done, since that was their condition. Last week, this water heater that was barely out of warranty ‘til a couple of months broke. I made a claim with American Home Shield and they dispatched it to Bear Plumbing & Rooter. This company said, “The installation is completely wrong. It's completely not up to code, and we're gonna report. American Home Shield is not gonna honor this claim.” I said, “What do you mean? Six years ago, I paid $1,000 to bring it up to code.” He said, “Nothing is done properly. The exhaust pipe is not done.” I couldn’t believe it. They did not even wanna check what was wrong with it.
I called back the company that installed this broken water heater and they said, “The guy who did it is no longer with us. You have to pay $3,300 for a new water heater." So, I went to the Department of Building and Safety yesterday. Today, I have an inspector coming to tell me exactly what's not up to code because I'm in a situation that I have to pay out-of-pocket for a new water heater. I was really hoping that American Home Shield would honor this claim because I'm paying my premium. I called another plumber and he said there's nothing wrong with this installation. I've got two opinions that said nothing is wrong. The water heater is strapped. I asked for another opinion through American Home Shield, and they sent a company called On Time Plumbing, and I love them. They are absolutely amazing. They said, “Yes, there are a couple of things that are missing, but it has nothing to do with the broken water heater.”
So, I’m in this really unpleasant situation and I don’t know what to do at this point. I’m coming out of a breast cancer battle with a tremendous amount of medical bills and for me, to put $4,000 or $3,000 into a new water heater is a very hard debt. American Home Shield can say, “You're responsible for upgrading the codes.” But why wouldn’t they want to take care of the water heater repair? It has nothing to do with the code. I called on Saturday and everybody was trying to help me get a plumber because we were smelling gas. Were trying to get a plumber in the weekend and nobody called me back. I'm quite dissatisfied right now and this is the second time I'm giving a chance to American Home Shield. I had them in the past and something frustrating happened, and I switched to Old Republic. I decided to try them again and the rates are better, and here I am. When I need something to be repaired, there's always an excuse not to cover it.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

Our home warranty is like an insurance policy. It came with the house when we bought it, and it was handy so I extended it a second year. Whenever I have a claim, all I have to do is call and tell AHS what the problem is, then they get a hold of whatever contractor I need to take care of the problem. It's an easy process and the contractors have all been fairly responsive and dependable. They come out quick, so I’m happy with it.
One weekend, everything was plugged up in the house since the roots of the palm tree in the front yard had plugged the main drain coming out of the house. My wife called on Sunday and the plumber from Supreme Plumbing came out on Monday. They went in through an access in the front of the house and cleaned the roots out and then the drain started working.

When the main faucet had a main leak on it, they had to replace the whole system. But the first time that Quality Appliance came out, it wasn’t so good. They came out late. They told us 5 o’clock and they showed up at almost quarter to 5. The tech was too busy on the phone and took pictures and said he would be back. He’d have to replace it. The second time he came, he started on the phone, but as soon as he came through the door, he got off the phone and went straight to work. So, it was better than the first time.
When we first started with American Home Shield, it would take a 24-hour turnaround for somebody to come out, get the stuff done and that’s done quickly. But this time, it’s taking much longer. You have to wait two or three days now to get everything resolved. We like it back the way it used to be. But submitting a claim is still pretty easy.

When we first purchased our home, we had problems with our air conditioning and heating, and Home Shield was really prompt. It’s an easy system of submitting the claims whether one calls or do it online. Then, the contractors that I’ve encountered have been amazingly friendly and knowledgeable, and they also explained everything that was going on. Recently, Ideal Services came out for the motion-sensor spotlight on our porch. It was just going off and on and clicking inside where the switch was. I do not know anything about electrical and we wanted to have somebody come out because the biggest concern was a fire. Bottom line, the guy's diagnosis was that the switch was actually a mechanical problem inside. He was there for maybe 20 minutes, took care of it, and put regular switches at my request. It’s working fine now. So, I’ve been really satisfied with the two contractors I've had.

They ran the rooter thing all the way through. When I had somebody in here before on that dishwasher, they had it all messed up. And so, they rewired it, and the plumber took the hose that was from the dishwasher and moved it up instead of down. But they didn’t charge for that. He did that on his own. The ice maker of my Whirlpool dual fridge and freezer stopped working. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and using their site was perfectly easy. I prefer speaking to a human but on this occasion, their site was very easy to deal with. They sent Potts Plumbing & Appliance Repair and the tech who went was very thorough and professional. He was here for an hour and 20 minutes trying to get to the root of the fault. According to him, the problem was due to faulty wiring on that part of the unit, which had been damaged due to a design fault in the Whirlpool machine.
He contacted four different part manufacturers to get a replacement wiring loom and according to him they were no longer manufactured. He couldn't get the spare part so I got a replacement. There were 9 days between the first visit and then being told exactly what was going on. During that time I felt a bit as though I didn’t know what was happening. Still, I was tracing the website and once I did that, an email came through to give me an update. When I make claims with Home Shield, they have been resolved to my satisfaction so I've been very happy.

I let them know my concerns and why it was urgent for me, and they accommodated it. Unfortunately, the first technician that went out didn't resolve the issue. He replaced the thermostat and he also said that one of my switches was off. And so, he did his test, then he thought that it was good to go, so we signed off. But then 48 hours went on with the heater on and it didn't heat. So we had to call back another technician. AHS had to send out a second technician from the same company for a follow-up. He said that one of the fuses was facing the wrong way, which was causing my fan to turn on and blow cold air and not hot air. And so, he had to just readjust the sensor. It's been good now.

AHS's claims process is easy. Their reps are very nice, but their call center is not in the U.S. and it is painfully obvious. I was trying to explain to them what a hot tub was and that was a real challenge the first time. My hot tub isn't working and is leaking, and I called AHS last week and they still can't figure out getting somebody to come look at it. They assigned it to one person but he never showed up. They assigned it to somebody else over the weekend. It's now Tuesday and I've still not heard back from the contractor.
When our heating system wasn't producing hot air, and cool air was coming out, we opened up an emergency request to AHS. The person I talked to understood what I was talking about and got somebody out quickly. A-Fast Heating & Cooling showed up and they were fantastic. They were able to fix the problem. It was a programming problem with the thermostat. They corrected it and checked everything out. It was a fantastic experience. It was exactly what my expectations were.
So far, we've made four service calls. We had a problem with the dryer too and AHS said the contractor would be here and we took a day off. We were here all day and he just didn't show up. AHS said, "He said he showed up." I said no. I got a barrage of cameras but he never came to our house. But a guy came the next day and got it fixed and it was fine.
I wish AHS would improve on following up. The person I talked to on the phone over the weekend and yesterday told me that someone would be calling me about scheduling the dispatch for the hot tub repair. She said within 24 hours, and it has been well over 24 hours and I still haven't heard anything. I have no idea what's going on. But they charged me the $75 and that happened quickly. My fear is they don't cover secondary damage. I don't think the heater is working and it's leaking. So I keep filling it up so we can cycle and try and keep water moving because it's 20 degrees here at night.
Tomorrow, it would already be a week. It's an outdoor hot tub and it's losing water. Not in a fast pace, but it is. So every day, I check it and see if it needs water. It's a lot of care and feeding on something that isn't working. I don't mind doing the checking of the pH but this is just making sure it doesn't break more. AHS said, "I'm sorry. This is a result of something else." I said, "I just need somebody to come fix it." Apparently, they can't find anybody in the area, which is odd, because there's a hundred spa places around me. But one person did offer for me to be able to go pay for it myself and get reimbursed, and there's just no chance of that happening. My concern is with the call center, but people are doing the best they can. Everybody has been super nice and very friendly.
Good Morning Matthew,
I am saddened to hear that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

I've been with American Home Shield for four years and so far, I like the value for the service that we have to use. I normally submit claims through computer and the contractors that AHS has sent out have been 95% favorable. It’s almost impossible to get anybody on the phone at anytime, anywhere, any place, any location so I'm forced to go online, which I understand. But it would be nice to have at least some capability of calling when you have a question about a claim. That is an annoyance that confounds me. But because I’m able to talk to the contractor directly, that’s fine. It would be nice though to get some guidance from American Home Shield by somebody that is knowledgeable over the phone before you make the request. I’ve tried eight times before just to call, but I was on mega hold forever with no light at the end of the tunnel speaking to anybody. I filed a claim for my heating 9 o'clock on a Friday with American Home Shield. Their reps said I would get a callback from the contractor, JFrank, which did not call that Saturday. They were working on a Saturday, so I emailed and called them but they didn't respond. I called AHS that day too and they reached out to JFrank. The techs showed up the following Tuesday so we were out of heat for 4 days. The tech was very respectful. He replaced the igniter and explained what he was replacing. He had the part in his truck which was perfect.
Still, a quicker response or better communication would have been better. I understand I called on a Friday night so I'm not expecting a 911 to come over. I expected them though at least to respond. It got to the point where it was 50 degrees in my house with three kids. I can spend more money but then I am already paying for AHS so I waited and bit the bullet.

I’ve had American Home Shield for six months and they’re awesome. The rep signed me up and they put me on autopay, and everything has worked out very well. You hear such horror stories about these things and everything, and that’s quite the opposite. I did a claim online for the air conditioning unit and I was very surprised that I could do it being I’m not so computer literate. It was very easy.
The customer service online with American Home Shield was outstanding but the one from the repair people was even better than outstanding. They were right in touch with me and they scheduled the appointment right away. They gave me the particulars of what I needed to do and reminded me. Then, the technician came out and could not have been more professional or nicer although all he did was check the box and plug it back in. Somebody has gone into the outside breaker box and unplugged it. So, there wasn’t anything wrong with it but he went through everything and he said that everything was working fine.

The change of locks went perfect. It was really good with Rescue Me Locksmith 'cause we kinda talked over what my plan was and how they were gonna make it to where the six locks ended up working off of the main lock. So, I got all eight of my doors put together on one key, and they all worked which was great. Submitting that claim went fine. I did another claim through AHS' website regarding some outdoor things that aren't working, and I have an electrician who just texted me that he's on the way.

AHS sent Hers & His Plumbing out for a hot water heater issue. I didn't have real good hot water, but more than that, it was depositing scale in all my faucets, and I had to have someone keep coming out to clean them out so I could get water running. I've used Hers & His Plumbing before and they were really good. I really haven't had many claims but there's only one contractor I would not use, and I don't know if AHS still has them. I had problems with that one a couple years ago with my air conditioner. I let them finish the work because it had started, but they came back time after time, and they didn't know what they were doing. It was just repeat visit after another. Unless they've screwed something up long term and messes it up, I think they finally fixed our AC. When I called this time, I told AHS I didn't want them.
I didn't know that the recommendation is to have hot water heater flushed one or two times a year. If AHS would do something that would go towards preventive, that would be great because I paid the $75 fee plus I had to pay more for them to do it. If they could do a service call that is half or two-thirds of the cost, that would be great too. It would get more people to do it and pay attention. It just seems like there are so many expenses with things, so if people can help you a little bit upfront, that's good. If something's not wrong and you really don't know about it, you're not gonna call somebody out and do preventative maintenance. And if you don't do it, the policy is voided. I didn't even know that. If AHS could help with that and just give customers incentives to do it and give them a little bit of a break, that would be wonderful. So far, AHS helped me and covered the things that I needed where I had problems. I have recommended them to other people too.
Hi Kathleen,
Your feedback is greatly appreciated and we understand the concerns regarding the technician. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the repairs.

I have been with Home Shield for 10 years. Once, I asked them not to place me with one company anymore. But other than that, I've had no major issues with them. Recently, something was missing or had blown on the microwave. The first time the tech from Appliance Care came, he said there was a piece that he had to order, so he did that. I called back a second time because Home Shield took a minute to let me know what was going on but the rep was pleasant when I talked to her, and then the tech came back the following day. He said he had to order another piece, so he did that, came back and was able to repair the microwave. Home Shield did good.

I'll try to keep this short...do I have valid complaint(s!!!!) about AHS? Absolutely! But rather than go through them all I will just explain how AHS works. They are in it to make money, not "help" you, in doing so this means they hire substandard contractors that DO THEIR bidding! If they don't, they don't get used again... If there IS a claim, and it costs more than what you pay a year? Sorry, but the claim will not get paid... (It actually says this VERY clearly if you read the contract.) Between this, and the fact that after reading the contract in full, there are actually VERY VERY few things that are covered. You will find that AHS will get out of each and every claim in somehow, some way.
But at the end of the day..IF they pay out anything, it will be less than what you pay them! Please RUN while you can. Or know this, the amount you pay them every year is your gift to them...period. That's where it ends. Do not expect anything in return. You are simply paying their CEO to afford a bigger house this year. NOTHING MORE!! Please don't believe that I'm the only one. The reviews that seem to make it up on their website, and here for that matter all seem to be 5 stars? Do your research. Facebook, BBB. The info is all there, just look before throwing away your money.

There were so many recurring issues w/ my AC not cooling. Service tickets created on 6/24, 7/3, 7/10/19. On 8/14/19, Rutan Refrigeration replaced 3-ton condenser by 2-ton condenser. The temperatures used to be 77F (before replacement) became 90F (after replacement). I made call in August to follow up, no one called me back. On 9/30/19, I spoke with Mariz to request cash out option for AC. He advised me that someone will call me back in 2 business days which did not happen. On 10/4/19, I spoke with Fionia to follow up. She initiated a recall request to the vendor relation with dispatch# **. Rutan Refrigeration called me to schedule appointment but they cancelled without telling me.
On 10/11/19, I spoke with Carl to follow up. No one called me back. On 10/14/19, I spoke with Yen who promised to call me back in 30 min but she did not. She gave me AHS fax so I faxed over the Diagnosis report conducted on 10/9/19 by 808 Air Conditioning stating "Measured pressure/temps indicate the Freon is contaminated with R22 residue and R410 mixture and is unstable. Mixed 3 ton indoor and 2 ton outdoor capacity is inefficient. Complete removal and new installation of both indoor/outdoor units is recommended."
On 10/16/19, I spoke with Via. Acknowledged that they received my faxed report. She said she will escalate my request and will call me back and no one called me back. On 10/28/19, I spoke with Shirlane who said there was no fax received and no indication of any escalation was filed. All along, they have lied to me to make me wait for nothing. AHS rather protects the vendor, Rutan Refrigeration who caused "the freon is contaminated with R22 residue and R410 mixture and is unstable". My tenant has been very furious to me due to the contamination could lead to their health issues. Our furnaces were not working consistently. The tech came out and tried to clean our flame sensors, but they were still not working consistently. The furnaces kinda turn on sometimes, but sometimes, they don’t. So we have kept that work order open. The tech is going to come and replace both flame sensors. I’ve paid the $75 on that. American Home Shield has been good so far about answering questions and honoring claims. They are easy to talk to. They are friendly, and helpful people on the phone. They also have a user-friendly website. Our dryer blew up and caught fire within a month of living here. So I’ve already worked through a full appliance replacement with them. They were very fair and very good to work with and honored what they said they were gonna honor. So I’m pretty pleased with American Home Shield so far.
They have good contractors that will get the work done and honor what is covered under warranty. The contractors have been mostly very good. We had a plumber come out that did not really do the greatest job, didn’t sort of listen to the work order, and didn’t do that good. But it was just a matter of that particular company. They did come back out a couple of more times and finally fixed what they were supposed to. But we’ve had people come and look at our furnace, and they’ve been real responsive, and honoring the work order and the fee. So I’ve been very pleased.

American Home Shield sent National Factory Service for the refrigerator. The icemaker stopped working. They came out, they looked at it, and they’ve been pretty good. The refrigerator wasn’t defrosting right and it took the company AHS hired four tries to get it right. They had to replace the defroster, then they replaced the brain chip, then they replaced something else. But then for a while they were gonna get a new refrigerator, but they ended up just replacing the parts. They had to order parts and the biggest problem is they can't order the parts, they had to come from American Home Shield. It was aggravating not to have the refrigerator work properly for a couple of weeks. Other than that, it was fine and the companies that were hired did a good job.

Greenway Home Services weren’t able to fix the pipe. We have galvanized pipes and it was completely rusted. This would not go to American Home Shield because they don't pay for that. But Greenway gave us an estimate to completely redo the plumbing in the house. They came out the following Monday, and then, they called the supervisor out, and they were going through everything that was gonna have to be done. When they left, the plumber said they'd like to start big jobs on the first of the week. I called Thursday to let them know that we were looking for them to come Monday morning. By 10 o’clock on Monday morning, no one showed up and the plumber never called me back. So, I called again Monday and the supervisor said she was on the phone and she would call me back. She never returned my call.
So, I assumed they didn’t want the job, and it was handled very unprofessionally. They should have at least called and told me that they were not gonna do the job. So, they're on my bad list right now. I’m not happy with them. They should return somebody’s call. We’ve had the policy with AHS for several years now. They’ve been able to help us and we’ve enjoyed working with them. Since we don’t have a computer in my mother’s home, it doesn't help us when we call their number. We hear repeatedly, “It’d be easier to do it on the web....” It takes forever to call and talk to someone on the phone. The lady at Greenway gave me the number that they call to get in touch with AHS. And that call was promptly answered, and it went smoothly. So I'm glad I have that phone number now. But the phone number that’s on the bill, it’s a nightmare to try to get through to place an order.

American Home Shield got Royal Flush AC and Heating to do a routine maintenance on my system and they found the system is working fine. The blades in there need to be cleaned, which had never been cleaned in the 13 years that I've lived here, so they're gonna come out and clean those to make the system work a little more efficiently.
American Home Shield's customer service is usually pretty good, but I was a little upset from a service call that I had with my faucets. I spent over $1,000 to have my faucets replaced and some other pipes done, and they said they would pay me $123. It has been several months but I never saw it. I sent them everything by email as they requested and I didn't get a response. I also sent it all by registered mail to make sure they signed for it and they didn't pick it up. It was returned. So, I'm disappointed in that part. $100 is not much considering I had to spend $1,000 to have this done, but if they say they're gonna pay you some money, they should send it in, especially when you send all the documentation that they requested. I felt like I was getting a runaround.

Filing my claim online was simple. I was able to go and just click on what I thought the problem was. The pool was going down rapidly and I saw water coming out of the heater and out of the top of the filter. I couldn't tell what the issue was so I clicked everything I could think it could be and let them diagnose it and figure it out when the guy came out there. I clicked filter, heater, and plumbing. It ended up being the filter and the heater. I filed that claim on a weekend and the contractor showed up on a Tuesday. He had to get parts but within a couple of working days, he had everything back up and going.
I also dealt with AHS on another property. They paid for the new item immediately and shipped it out there. But late yesterday, the tech that they sent out told me that he was booked up and needed a few weeks. He told me to let AHS know in case there was somebody else they could to install it sooner. Hopefully, AHS is sending somebody new out.
I've used other insurance and AHS seems to be the best for me, so far. The other one I used was a headache. They didn't wanna do anything. But American Home Shield has been really quick and easy to work with. I've had problems out of a couple of techs, but some of that, AHS can't control. You get bad people everywhere. There was a leak under the water heater and so I filed a claim online. At first, the website was a little difficult to navigate and it was kind of a pain because it didn’t recognize me. I didn’t know if my contract had been filed in the system yet ‘cause I had just bought the house a week before. It took a day or two before it finally recognized me, but they had gotten back with me as soon as I got the claim submitted.
I also went through the Frequently Asked Questions, and it said there that the contractor has to be here within 24 business hours per the guidelines, and then they have to get back with them within 48 business hours. I had some kind of reasonable expectations and the contractor Mega Star Plumbing gave me a timeline. They told me when to expect to get the equipment replaced, and they actually got it replaced two days sooner. They were quick, thorough, and very polite. Everything went by very well and very smoothly. The experience was satisfying ‘cause they got out here and I don’t have any problems with the water heater now. Having the warranty seemed to work out well for me so far.

For three years that I've been with AHS, there were a couple of problems with the claims process. A lot of times, it takes a little while to get in, to talk to somebody. They need to improve in that area. But they try to do it pretty good. When my water heater started to leak and I knew it was time to replace it, I didn't call AHS. Within the next day or so, my lights went out and I had the sump pump to back up, and I had about 14 inches of water. So, by then, AHS said there was no way they could tell whether the water heater problem was from the flood or from the water heater just being bad. I could understand that.
They didn't have any proof and they wouldn’t pay the repair of the water heater. For the plumbing claim, everything went pretty well. The people who came out were very good and knowledgeable. They just had to open a sewer. I have recommended AHS to other people. I also received an advertisement about where they'd have gutter cleaning, and I could use some of that right now.

And they're pretty dependable. In September, our washer and dryer went out, and then last month, our AC motor blower went out, which is a $2,000 job alone. Also, our AC unit went out in the summer before last. American Home Shield has always stepped up and has good customer service.
Their contractors are knowledgeable. They don’t hem-and-haw or small talk, instead they assess the problem quickly and diagnose it, and then they us what we need. It's always time relative as to when they can show up, and that has been the way since the cable guys said they would be out there in four hours. And you can't really be upset about them not showing up for four hours as they’ve been really well in communicating when they would be there.
This last guy we had, Anthony, he was calling me 30 minutes out to say he was headed my way. So, we knew the day he was coming and between hours he would show up. We also got texts from his company saying that our technician has been dispatched to the property and how many minutes before they could be there. And that helps me. Both my wife and I work, so we can't just sit there for five hours and wait. They were very communicative in his arrival time, so that was good. Kudos to them.

I had a company come out and they said that I had all sorts of problems and the AC needed to be checked. A young man named Ryan from High-Efficiency Heating & Cooling came out to do the yearly maintenance check, and he was very personable and competent. He said that everything was all good so I was very happy. So far, I've been very happy with all of the contractors sent to me. I'm also happy with the way things are going now.

I had two claims at the same time. One was a stopped up sink, and the other was an electrical outlet that would not work. I submitted the claims by phone and the reps I dealt with were fine. Within the day, somebody called me back. The contractor that was sent by American Home Shield fixed both of the issues and they did a great job. The people they call are great, and everything works now. I also like the app that they are using. It was wonderful. It tells you when the serviceman is coming out and where he is located. I used my iPhone and it showed me exactly where he was en route. Then they also gave me an estimation as to what time that he would arrive and that was right on. So, I was very happy. I would definitely use AHS again.
I bought this house a year ago. This is the second house I bought in the last couple of years, and we had Fidelity, which did crummy work. I called on that house a couple of times and I have nothing but trouble. Fidelity charged me money, they couldn’t fix the problem, and on and on it went. Then the second time I called, they said the refrigerator was installed wrongly, and they couldn’t take care of it. It was wrong, and that was a nightmare. So, I’m very happy with AHS. I would highly recommend them if I ever buy another house. They were great.

American Home Shield does a really good job. They are very organized and they get back to you. They sent My Georgia Plumber for my most recent claim, and the experience was fantastic. The contractor was excellent. The water level at the master bath toilet was going down, but he said it wasn’t leaking and that it was just the way the water level was set. So, he readjusted it. And then, he took out the stopper in the other tub in the guest room and re-tightened the screw. He put it back in, and it works fine.

We’ve been a customer since the first of the year. We switched over from another company because we were having troubles with the water heater and the guy was waiting and waiting. He couldn’t get approval to do anything and said he doesn't have that problem with Home Shield. Recently, when our dishwasher went out, I spoke with an AHS representative and they had Sears come out, which took a week. Since the unit wasn’t fixable, it was replaced and it took a few days to get connected back to order a whole new dishwasher.

Originally, it was $40 to have somebody come out for a visit. Now, it's $100. So, in 20 years that I've been with American Home Shield, their price has doubled. I thought about dropping them but they're doing a pretty good job. I had them with my other house, which I had sold in North Carolina. And when I bought a beach house down here, I put AHS on it as well.
I'm familiar with the online process of filing a claim but I prefer to call and talk to somebody. Sometimes it is difficult getting through and sometimes, I just call and get right through. AHS is prompt. Usually, there's somebody that come right on out and get the work done just like the guy who came to fix the washing machine. The washing machine had a couple of parts on it in the tub that had worn out that had to be replaced. The disc wobbled and sounded like it was coming through the floor. The young man was top-notch. He looked at it, and he knew exactly what was wrong with it, diagnosed it right away and made a phone call. I live in North Myrtle Beach and the part was in Main Myrtle Beach. He was on his way to do another repair there and while he was there, he picked up the parts. He came and fixed the washing machine, so I was really pleased.

I received an email right away stating who was coming out and that they would be calling me. ARC Appliance Repair was very neat, clean, efficient, and knew what they were doing. Then, they had to order me a new icemaker and everything is working fine now. So, that has been a very good experience. If you have to have service on everything, having AHS is an excellent experience.

American Home Shield is great and we had them for a solid year. We moved a year ago and we were paying $500, but then all of a sudden, they wanted 700 and something. They upped our amount by $210 or $230, and we couldn’t afford that. While we've had a great experience with them, we had to pay in advance halfway through the year. I was like, “What’s that all about?” But companies do whatever they feel like doing and we’re at their mercy. Other than that, as far as taking care of appliances and what they needed to do, they came full force and they sent good people to do it. We had to go with a company that charged less because we can’t afford 700 and whatever it was.

We were paying about $1,000 a year to American Home Shield, and that was with a $75 deductible. When I renewed, I went over everything and I knocked off some things because I was buying all new appliance. So I dropped it down to $875, and I went to a $100 deductible. I have a pool so I added that to the policy. When I realized that one of my pump motors in my pool was going, I called the people that take care of my pool every week, and it came up about $400 for this motor. It was grinding like crazy. I live in Florida, and if you’re in Florida, you have a real problem if you don’t have water circulating on that. So, I called up American Home Shield on Saturday.
The only thing I was a little disappointed with was that I’m old school and I like to talk to people, and it was really hard to do it. I read the policy, and it said somebody would get back with me in 24 hours. So I called again Monday morning and I was really worried that this was not gonna be taken care of. I got ahold of a representative from American Home Shield who said that the person that was gonna fix this had a 24-hour window to call me. I replied that we’d already lost the weekend and I was three days without filtering my pool. Lo and behold, I got this call from ABNation and it said that they would be out between 11:00 and 1:00. That sounded great to me.
At 11:00, this kid showed up in my door. His name was Daniel, and he said he was there to fix my pool. We went in the back, I showed him what was wrong, and I asked him if he had the parts because he had to have the gasketing material. He said he had everything, and in half an hour, my pool was running. I was happy as a lark. I tipped the kid. He was very upbeat and presentable. He was so positive. He represented his company as well as American Home Shield of picking them as a person. So right now, I’m real happy. I got my pool fixed, and it cost me a 100 bucks versus $400.

A friend of mine had signed up with American Home Shield and had some positive experiences. I gave them a try, and so far, it has gone very well. Most recently, I had a repair to my ice machine. I’ve actually had that fixed twice under their services for totally different issues each time. Outside of American Home Shield, I’ve had the refrigerator repaired three other times, so it’s a known issue with this model. And this last time, they just replaced it completely.
And then, over the summer, my dryer went. At the cost to repair it, it could be replaced for a couple of dollars more. So, they offered me the option to either repair it, which would cost them say, five hundred something dollars, or they would give me 550 to replace it. I decided to replace it for that extra couple of dollars, and the whole process was seamless. Submitting the paperwork was easy and I got the check very quickly. Plus, my experience with their contractors has also been positive. I’ve had two different contractors for the ice machine and both have been great. The same contractor that came this last time for my ice machine is also the one that came for my dryer issue, and they were prompt and professional both times.
I would like for them to improve their website, though, as it doesn’t provide a whole lot of communication once you become a customer. I could pull up my contract and all the documents, and I could see that I’ve placed a claim, but that’s where it drops. Another thing would be for when I call to ask questions, like, they’re offering a promotion right now on HVAC maintenance where you’d pay $75 per unit and have your unit checked. I wanna know what that involves but I had to stay on hold for 35 minutes trying to get through to a customer service representative and never got an answer. And you don’t find it on the website too. But as a whole, I will probably stay around because American Home Shield provides a great level of coverage. They cover all of my appliances and both of my HVAC systems. The things that are mechanically prone to break are covered. And I have that additional assurance instead of that shock factor out my wallet.

AHS was always good to me. I’ve been a loyal customer for about six years and I'm a big fan. When American Home Shield offered a tune-up service, I asked for it. I promised them that I could have this service done at the closing of my home. But they came back two days later after I made this promise and said that they didn’t have anybody in the area that can possibly offer that service. It was ridiculous because it was a week away at the time. Then there was this whole to-do, and my real estate agent got involved. I just needed somebody to come out to my house and check and make sure my HVAC is in good working order, which is pretty much something that’s required under the AHS bylaws anyway. Now, I have officially gotten someone who is supposed to come out Friday morning at 8 o’clock.
Last week, the guy from Stillwell Plumbing came out twice and he was great. He fixed everything I needed him to. He did exactly what he was expected of. He was nice about it to boot. With this claim, AHS was able to send out the plumber the next day after I submitted the claim which was pretty impressive. The other ones before was like two or three days.

Michelle, American Home Shield's regional salesperson, reached out to me and she’s been so kind. I’m a real estate salesperson in the area and she has been with them in sales for a long time. I’ve known her for a while and she told me, “I’ve been with them so long because they do what they say they’re going to do.” So, I trusted her and have had the warranty since last spring.
For a claim, I do it online. It’s straightforward, they make it really simple, and I have records of it. The contractors have been good also. I had some pool problems and where I live, trying to get somebody that knows anything about pools is sketchy. It has been kind of a nightmare, but American Home Shield stayed with me until they found me somebody who could get it done. The woman that helped me was Matissa, and she was so fabulous and stayed in touch with me. I wish there were about 100 of Matissas. There were a couple of contractors, but Watertight Pool & Spa was the one that finally came out and got everything A-Okay. So, I really appreciate Home Shield's help. And since then, I’ve already bought 2 other policies from them for some 2 homes that I have for sale. I feel that good about what they do.

I spoke to someone and she ordered it, and it didn't take long after that. The people were nice, but I kinda felt sorry for them because they're both men, one of them, I guess is the owner, the other one was his helper, and they were elderly, that I would think at least past the 60s. We have purchased our first home recently and I believe in taking warranties. It's always good to have a warranty team for any issue I have with the home. We have AHS and our recent experience with them has been satisfactory. We had an issue with the gas well. Although the blower is on, it's not picking up the gas so it's not heating up. I filed a claim online and I was told that we will have contractors within the next 24 hours. After 24 hours, I got a call from the contractor. First, they found out that there was a defect in the part. Home Shield ordered the part and sent it back to the contractor. The next time he came, he fixed the issue and checked that everything was working fine. It was a very good service.

The ceiling was wet and dripping, so I thought there was a leak upstairs in my pipe. I submitted the claim online and American Home Shield's website was very easy to use. They said that that the contractors would be out in 24 to 48 hours. Charlotte Plumbing Masters was fine. The guy told me that it was an HVAC issue and that it was not a plumbing issue. So, it really was not resolved, but that’s not their fault. We then had to get a different contractor out.
An HVAC contractor came out and told me that my shut-off valve failed, and that it would probably be more expensive to fix it than it would be for a new unit because of North Carolina law. The R22 standards in our state is pretty strict. He soaked up some water, did what he could from that initial inspection, and provided his findings and quote in a timely manner. He was great. However, I'm dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I purchased the policy when I bought my home in June with the understanding that my HVAC was fully covered, and now they are telling me that it is not.
I apologize for the inconvenience Jennifer. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

I've been with American Home Shield for three years and my recent claim was the first time I've used them for something that was actually covered. I had to have some work done on one of the springs on the garage door that broke a year and a half ago, and found that the actual garage door itself is not covered, but the garage door opener is. There were limitations but I got more clarity from that previous experience as to what exactly was covered concerning my garage door, opener, and the remotes.
Initially, it appeared that AHS wasn't gonna cover anything related to the outside garage door opener pad ‘cause it's an add-on to the actual motor that does the lifting of the garage door. They only cover the garage door opener itself and so I was just gonna have Sesame come out and do the work. Because it was more cost effective to do it that way than to pay my $125 service fee to American Home Shield.
So I called Open Sesame ‘cause I had worked with them through American Home Shield before. When the contractor got here, he replaced the outdoor pad opener with a new one then discovered that the motor had a problem. One of the gears was broken and had to be replaced. I called American Home Shield and told them the situation. I said, “The service man said that it has to be repaired. And he says all we need is a work order from you guys, and then they can work together with you.” I was anticipating AHS would say, “Well, you called the contractor out without having an initial work order from us. And no, we can’t take care of that now.” But they said, “Okay. Even though you didn’t have a work order when he first came out, we can give you a work order now, so that you can have it covered. Pay your fee.”
I paid the $125 fee to American Home Shield, and then I paid the balance to Open Sesame, but it saved me money. In other words, AHS ended up covering it. Both American Home Shield and Open Sesame worked with me and I was impressed with the way I was able to coordinate them once it was discovered that one of the problems was something that was covered by AHS.
Then, I had the contractor come back for a follow-up because there was more adjustment that had to be done on the door. Within the week, the door would stop, not open all the way or close all the way. But Open Sesame came back with no charge. The same technician made some more adjustments on the actual motor controls Then it’s been fine since. Overall, it was a positive experience. I was impressed with American Home Shield's flexibility and their willingness to work.

My water heater kept going out every other day so I got online to file a claim with AHS. The first vendor couldn’t fix it. This was the second vendor that they sent out and he was very polite and on time. I’ve been with AHS for several years for two townhomes. This is the first time they actually paid on a claim. I had a claim earlier this year in my rental home, it’s a 21-year-old AC, and they didn’t pay for it saying it was user, that it was not due to normal wear and tear. I almost dropped the coverage and I am actually shopping for a new company.
The technician saw some kind of thing in there and that was what he turned in, and I guarantee that was what they were trying to do with the water heater, too. The first technician basically said they need a new water heater. So, instead of doing it, they sent out a second technician, trying to find something wrong. They couldn’t find anything they could blame it on me. They did the same at my rental home. I had an issue with a 30-year-old furnace they didn’t pay for. They said it was user error. So AHS is not a good company. They either reward their vendors that don’t turn in a lot of replacements, claims, or something’s going on.
I should have fought it, but I just didn’t have time to fight it. They take their time so that you get frustrated and you could just pay for it out of your own pocket. I had my own guy that I paid extra for that came out and did everything. He inspected and said there was nothing I could do. There was nothing wrong that I did. And he gave me a bid and I shared that with the technicians that AHS sent out so they couldn’t really lie about it.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

I called the 800 number on the warranty information when I had a problem with the dryer and then Home Shield had someone call to schedule the appointment. When you call to get a repair, you gotta wait usually three or four days before someone comes and makes the repair. In that occasion, Murphy came out and my daughter was there. She said the dryer wasn't working before they came, and they said a wheel was bad. They replaced it and the dryer is working great after they came.
We've had one claim that Home Shield declined, but I understood why. They wouldn't fix the hot water heater because it was under a 10-year warranty. But the warranty was not transferable. Since the previous owners bought the hot water heater, the hot water people wouldn't honor their warranty, and then Home Shield said they weren't gonna pay the claim. But I understand that that's their rule. It's been a good service so far.

My microwave quit working. American Home Shield sent Bert’s Appliance Service. They were awesome and my experience was good. The contractor was on time. He said there was a piece that went out, and he didn’t need to fix it. He’d replace it, and they’d get back to me, and he left. Some other people came and installed the new microwave. The only thing is years ago, AHS didn’t cover a refrigerator of ours and they should have.

I was having trouble with the furnace. I called AHS and they sent Douglas Mechanical out. The tech went up in the attic and assessed what was going on. He did an amazing job and was very professional. He kept me informed, was very much on-point, and I was very pleased with his work. He was efficient as well and everything’s working great now. Other than that, I like submitting my claims online but you’re not able to write down what your problem is on their website. You can only do a category and that’s it. But the category doesn’t tell you what’s wrong with the situation. So if they had more of us making a detailed description of what it was online, I would do it online. I understand that they have to have some character limits but that’s gonna really help a whole lot.
Good Morning Sheryl,
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with AHS. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.

Omg where do I start. Was a loyal AHS member for 15 years but this last go around was too much and I jumped ship to Amazon's new service. It all started when the water heater took a dump. That is where the scheming between AHS and their plumber started. I learned troubling things about how AHS works with the plumber to do everything possible to either avoid approving the claim, or creating other fees like "bringing the unit up to code" even though the unit was up to code. When you call you will be on hold forever and when you finally get someone, they are overseas, and don't always have a mastery of the English language. They are great with the canned responses like "I'm sorry for the trouble this issue has caused you" etc. I know because the 7 times I called this last issue every rep said the same line. Lol.
The bottom line is When you have a claim, AHS is not there to help you, their sole focus is figuring out a way to not pay the claim. Trust me, a 15 year customer, use ANY other home warranty company. I think they are the worst company that I have ever dealt with...and I have dealt with a lot of companies. Great commercials though, but really the grim reaper in the commercial is AHS.
Hi Jeff,
I would like to start by thanking you for your patronage to American Home Shield. Your concerns about your most recent experience to have the water heater repaired are more than understood. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Of course there are good reviews when all goes well. As for us folks that aren't home experts and use AHS to come troubleshoot our issues, when it is figured in the first 5 minutes that it can't be fixed or isn't covered then you're out of $75. Then you have to pay out of pocket in addition to get it repaired. AHS doesn't care if you want a refund, they're not going to give it back. If we knew what was wrong and that it wasn't covered then we wouldn't waste our money with you people. All the unhappy reviews says they're working on a resolution but it looks like the response is a formality and I'm sure problems aren't getting solved.

I have horrid customer service from American Home Shield. They claim to offer month to month service, but I have an impossible time canceling the policy. I have called them, emailed them, and have gotten harassing emails and letters from them. On October 24th, my payment on the next month was due, so I called to cancel the policy on October 8th. They failed to follow my instructions, and instead sent me harassing emails and letters saying that I am past due. I have tried to call them several times, and have either been hung up on or put on hold for a very extended time. I thought this was the land of the free, but their business tactics are anything but. I have tried to get them to reference my complaints with some sort of number, but they have put me on hold. Victor **
Good Morning Victor,

I recently purchased a house and came with a warranty from home shield. It had couple of minor plumbing issue like leaky faucet. I called Home shield and they charged me $75 for plumber's visit. Plumber came to house and left without fixing anything. Later on home shield service department called me and told me that they are declining coverage on all issues because pipes and faucets were old and not in a good shape. They also refused to return money for the visit. If everything was brand new and in great shape why would I need warranty??
