The fan motor in the AC died and the online process of making the claim at AHS was very simple and easy. It was over the weekend, and the rep from Legend Service Center was out here on Monday at about noon. He had to look at the part and had a different part because it was an older unit, so he needed to go back and get a lower rpm unit. And so, he ran back to his shop and came back. We were back up and running by 2 o’clock. I haven't had to run the air conditioner much except for the last few days, but it’s been working great.
John,
We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your AC request. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

American Home Shield had an offer for the heating inspection. They asked me about a date, and then they said they would send me a representative from the company who performs the services. And then, we scheduled the service for whatever was convenient for me. The contractor was very professional and arrived on time. Everything worked fine. They sent me a checklist telling me everything that they did and everything checked out all right. They didn't find any issues.

3 Boys Appliance Repair recently repaired a dishwasher for me. Originally, there was some kind of controller part on it that they had to replace. I went through the American Home Shield system and the techs came out. It took a few days for them to get out here, but when they did, they replaced it. The problem is, when they pulled that out, a hose broke when they reinstalled the dishwasher, and I didn’t notice it for about two or three hours later. But I reset the claim and they rescheduled another visit and brought the proper hose, got it all fixed for me.

American Home Shield has been great since we’ve had them in the last couple of years. Anything that comes up, they seem to cover at least partially. Recently, there was a gas leak under the house so I submitted a claim online. I called after that because we preferred Kemper Plumbing. The AHS rep I spoke with was great. I was told that I’d be notified in the next 24 hours by the subcontractor. Kemper Plumbing has been fantastic and we’ve always had good results from them that is why we typically prefer them whenever we need a plumber.

I had two separate claims submitted to Home Shield. One was for my toilet tank that was not filling and the other was for my shower that had lost pressure. They were both serviced by All American Plumbing & Rooter LLC on the same day. They were very timely. That day, they had to replace the valve and stopper or plunger something in the tank of the toilet. They also had to remove the sealant screen in my shower head. Since then, both my toilet tank and my shower head have been fine.

After my husband noticed the ground was wet, I called American Home Shield and told them that I was needing somebody to come out. However, it took about 4 weeks before they could find somebody. During those weeks, water was slow to go out the drain but there was no inside damage. Wesson Septic finally came out and pumped the septic. They’ve been nice, good people, and I'm waiting on hearing from them again. I’m also waiting on a check from American Home Shield for my refund of $100 ‘cause I haven't gotten it yet, and I’d have to make sure Wesson gets paid.
I don’t know if I’m gonna keep American Home Shield once I get my $100 refund. It’s my second time to use them and I’ve had my policy for a year or more, but it’s just too slow. Every time I need them to have someone come out, they make me wait two days before the person contacts me and the person schedules another day. Then it’s just too much for that somebody to come when I have a problem.

We’ve had American Home Shield for about six years. So far, it’s been good. They’ve always been good to us whenever we needed something that was replaced, or repaired, or both. But I’ve been disappointed with one contractor with American Home Shield. And we got that fixed in a hurry. But other than that, the contractors have been really good.

In the 12 years that I've been with them, it has been easy to get everything set up and they do a pretty comprehensive job, like covering stuff. I really appreciate how fast they are. I had somebody within an hour or two and the contractors have been great. The online way of filing a claim, which I prefer is more convenient, but it’s pretty fast over the phone too.

I've been with American Home Shield for four years and so far, I like the value for the service that we have to use. I normally submit claims through computer and the contractors that AHS has sent out have been 95% favorable. It’s almost impossible to get anybody on the phone at anytime, anywhere, any place, any location so I'm forced to go online, which I understand. But it would be nice to have at least some capability of calling when you have a question about a claim. That is an annoyance that confounds me. But because I’m able to talk to the contractor directly, that’s fine. It would be nice though to get some guidance from American Home Shield by somebody that is knowledgeable over the phone before you make the request. I’ve tried eight times before just to call, but I was on mega hold forever with no light at the end of the tunnel speaking to anybody. So, they’ve got to get somebody on the phone to speak to customers.

Our thermostat for the heater would turn on, but the fan would not turn on and it would not blow hot air. I submitted a claim over the phone to AHS and my experience with their rep was good. I let them know my concerns and why it was urgent for me, and they accommodated it. Unfortunately, the first technician that went out didn't resolve the issue. He replaced the thermostat and he also said that one of my switches was off. And so, he did his test, then he thought that it was good to go, so we signed off. But then 48 hours went on with the heater on and it didn't heat. So we had to call back another technician. AHS had to send out a second technician from the same company for a follow-up. He said that one of the fuses was facing the wrong way, which was causing my fan to turn on and blow cold air and not hot air. And so, he had to just readjust the sensor. It's been good now.

I'm very frustrated. Six years ago, my old water heater broke and Old Republic honored the claim even though that water heater was not even strapped. It was really not up to code. They replaced the water heater and I paid over $1,000 for bringing everything up to code that was not done, since that was their condition. Last week, this water heater that was barely out of warranty ‘til a couple of months broke. I made a claim with American Home Shield and they dispatched it to Bear Plumbing & Rooter. This company said, “The installation is completely wrong. It's completely not up to code, and we're gonna report. American Home Shield is not gonna honor this claim.” I said, “What do you mean? Six years ago, I paid $1,000 to bring it up to code.” He said, “Nothing is done properly. The exhaust pipe is not done.” I couldn’t believe it. They did not even wanna check what was wrong with it.
I called back the company that installed this broken water heater and they said, “The guy who did it is no longer with us. You have to pay $3,300 for a new water heater." So, I went to the Department of Building and Safety yesterday. Today, I have an inspector coming to tell me exactly what's not up to code because I'm in a situation that I have to pay out-of-pocket for a new water heater. I was really hoping that American Home Shield would honor this claim because I'm paying my premium. I called another plumber and he said there's nothing wrong with this installation. I've got two opinions that said nothing is wrong. The water heater is strapped. I asked for another opinion through American Home Shield, and they sent a company called On Time Plumbing, and I love them. They are absolutely amazing. They said, “Yes, there are a couple of things that are missing, but it has nothing to do with the broken water heater.”
So, I’m in this really unpleasant situation and I don’t know what to do at this point. I’m coming out of a breast cancer battle with a tremendous amount of medical bills and for me, to put $4,000 or $3,000 into a new water heater is a very hard debt. American Home Shield can say, “You're responsible for upgrading the codes.” But why wouldn’t they want to take care of the water heater repair? It has nothing to do with the code. I called on Saturday and everybody was trying to help me get a plumber because we were smelling gas. Were trying to get a plumber in the weekend and nobody called me back. I'm quite dissatisfied right now and this is the second time I'm giving a chance to American Home Shield. I had them in the past and something frustrating happened, and I switched to Old Republic. I decided to try them again and the rates are better, and here I am. When I need something to be repaired, there's always an excuse not to cover it.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

I have been with Home Shield for 10 years. Once, I asked them not to place me with one company anymore. But other than that, I've had no major issues with them. Recently, something was missing or had blown on the microwave. The first time the tech from Appliance Care came, he said there was a piece that he had to order, so he did that. I called back a second time because Home Shield took a minute to let me know what was going on but the rep was pleasant when I talked to her, and then the tech came back the following day. He said he had to order another piece, so he did that, came back and was able to repair the microwave. Home Shield did good.

They were good. Everything worked out fine. We've been in our house since '97 and I've had Home Shield all that time. They've replaced the inside unit and the outside unit. When the main faucet had a main leak on it, they had to replace the whole system. But the first time that Quality Appliance came out, it wasn’t so good. They came out late. They told us 5 o’clock and they showed up at almost quarter to 5. The tech was too busy on the phone and took pictures and said he would be back. He’d have to replace it. The second time he came, he started on the phone, but as soon as he came through the door, he got off the phone and went straight to work. So, it was better than the first time.
When we first started with American Home Shield, it would take a 24-hour turnaround for somebody to come out, get the stuff done and that’s done quickly. But this time, it’s taking much longer. You have to wait two or three days now to get everything resolved. We like it back the way it used to be. But submitting a claim is still pretty easy.

There was a stop up in the kitchen and it’s backing up into my dishwasher. I’ve had contractors out here three times before the problem was taken care of. The first time, they thought they got it, and they didn’t. It was still the same way. And then the last time, Prestige Plumbing and Air went out and they fixed it. They ran the rooter thing all the way through. When I had somebody in here before on that dishwasher, they had it all messed up. And so, they rewired it, and the plumber took the hose that was from the dishwasher and moved it up instead of down. But they didn’t charge for that. He did that on his own. I highly recommend American Home Shield.

The ice maker of my Whirlpool dual fridge and freezer stopped working. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and using their site was perfectly easy. I prefer speaking to a human but on this occasion, their site was very easy to deal with. They sent Potts Plumbing & Appliance Repair and the tech who went was very thorough and professional. He was here for an hour and 20 minutes trying to get to the root of the fault. According to him, the problem was due to faulty wiring on that part of the unit, which had been damaged due to a design fault in the Whirlpool machine.
He contacted four different part manufacturers to get a replacement wiring loom and according to him they were no longer manufactured. He couldn't get the spare part so I got a replacement. There were 9 days between the first visit and then being told exactly what was going on. During that time I felt a bit as though I didn’t know what was happening. Still, I was tracing the website and once I did that, an email came through to give me an update. When I make claims with Home Shield, they have been resolved to my satisfaction so I've been very happy.

I filed a claim for my heating 9 o'clock on a Friday with American Home Shield. Their reps said I would get a callback from the contractor, JFrank, which did not call that Saturday. They were working on a Saturday, so I emailed and called them but they didn't respond. I called AHS that day too and they reached out to JFrank. The techs showed up the following Tuesday so we were out of heat for 4 days. The tech was very respectful. He replaced the igniter and explained what he was replacing. He had the part in his truck which was perfect.
Still, a quicker response or better communication would have been better. I understand I called on a Friday night so I'm not expecting a 911 to come over. I expected them though at least to respond. It got to the point where it was 50 degrees in my house with three kids. I can spend more money but then I am already paying for AHS so I waited and bit the bullet.

American Home Shield did awesome for my washing machine and my dishwasher. I have been recommending them because of my experience to date. However, I was disappointed when I called them for a plumber. My bathroom was flooding and they wanted to wait till the next day to send me a plumber. I was literally out of towels and I was wringing them out, coming back in and soaking it the best I could. So, I had to insist, and American Home Shield finally got someone to come out a few hours later. It was around midday when I called them, and then they said somebody would be here around 3:00 but the plumber actually got here about closer to 5:00. All he did was put a wrench to it, and it stopped the water flow.
The plumber then contacted a water mitigation guy who did nothing. He just said it all needs to be ripped out and then asked for my homeowner’s insurance information. So, I went ahead and spoke to my homeowner’s insurance themselves. They sent their water mitigation guy out, and he actually did what American Home Shield is supposed to do, which is to put the machines on to dry everything up. The only thing American Home Shield is gonna do is replace one faucet.
The people came back today, and had to rip out the cabinet and cut out part of the wall. The water went underneath the floor so part of my flooring in the bedroom is ripped out. But can you imagine if I waited till the next day? I wish American Home Shield would train their people that if someone is having water flowing in their home, that’s considered, “We need to take care of this right now,” situation.

The change of locks went perfect. It was really good with Rescue Me Locksmith 'cause we kinda talked over what my plan was and how they were gonna make it to where the six locks ended up working off of the main lock. So, I got all eight of my doors put together on one key, and they all worked which was great. Submitting that claim went fine. I did another claim through AHS' website regarding some outdoor things that aren't working, and I have an electrician who just texted me that he's on the way.

You hear such horror stories about these things and everything, and that’s quite the opposite. I did a claim online for the air conditioning unit and I was very surprised that I could do it being I’m not so computer literate. It was very easy.
The customer service online with American Home Shield was outstanding but the one from the repair people was even better than outstanding. They were right in touch with me and they scheduled the appointment right away. They gave me the particulars of what I needed to do and reminded me. Then, the technician came out and could not have been more professional or nicer although all he did was check the box and plug it back in. Somebody has gone into the outside breaker box and unplugged it. So, there wasn’t anything wrong with it but he went through everything and he said that everything was working fine.

AHS sent Hers & His Plumbing out for a hot water heater issue. I didn't have real good hot water, but more than that, it was depositing scale in all my faucets, and I had to have someone keep coming out to clean them out so I could get water running. I've used Hers & His Plumbing before and they were really good. I really haven't had many claims but there's only one contractor I would not use, and I don't know if AHS still has them. I had problems with that one a couple years ago with my air conditioner. I let them finish the work because it had started, but they came back time after time, and they didn't know what they were doing. It was just repeat visit after another. Unless they've screwed something up long term and messes it up, I think they finally fixed our AC. When I called this time, I told AHS I didn't want them.
I didn't know that the recommendation is to have hot water heater flushed one or two times a year. If AHS would do something that would go towards preventive, that would be great because I paid the $75 fee plus I had to pay more for them to do it. If they could do a service call that is half or two-thirds of the cost, that would be great too. It would get more people to do it and pay attention. It just seems like there are so many expenses with things, so if people can help you a little bit upfront, that's good. If something's not wrong and you really don't know about it, you're not gonna call somebody out and do preventative maintenance. And if you don't do it, the policy is voided. I didn't even know that. If AHS could help with that and just give customers incentives to do it and give them a little bit of a break, that would be wonderful. So far, AHS helped me and covered the things that I needed where I had problems. I have recommended them to other people too.
Hi Kathleen,
Your feedback is greatly appreciated and we understand the concerns regarding the technician. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the repairs.

AHS's claims process is easy. Their reps are very nice, but their call center is not in the U.S. and it is painfully obvious. I was trying to explain to them what a hot tub was and that was a real challenge the first time. My hot tub isn't working and is leaking, and I called AHS last week and they still can't figure out getting somebody to come look at it. They assigned it to one person but he never showed up. They assigned it to somebody else over the weekend. It's now Tuesday and I've still not heard back from the contractor.
When our heating system wasn't producing hot air, and cool air was coming out, we opened up an emergency request to AHS. The person I talked to understood what I was talking about and got somebody out quickly. A-Fast Heating & Cooling showed up and they were fantastic. They were able to fix the problem. It was a programming problem with the thermostat. They corrected it and checked everything out. It was a fantastic experience. It was exactly what my expectations were.
So far, we've made four service calls. We had a problem with the dryer too and AHS said the contractor would be here and we took a day off. We were here all day and he just didn't show up. AHS said, "He said he showed up." I said no. I got a barrage of cameras but he never came to our house. But a guy came the next day and got it fixed and it was fine.
I wish AHS would improve on following up. The person I talked to on the phone over the weekend and yesterday told me that someone would be calling me about scheduling the dispatch for the hot tub repair. She said within 24 hours, and it has been well over 24 hours and I still haven't heard anything. I have no idea what's going on. But they charged me the $75 and that happened quickly. My fear is they don't cover secondary damage. I don't think the heater is working and it's leaking. So I keep filling it up so we can cycle and try and keep water moving because it's 20 degrees here at night.
Tomorrow, it would already be a week. It's an outdoor hot tub and it's losing water. Not in a fast pace, but it is. So every day, I check it and see if it needs water. It's a lot of care and feeding on something that isn't working. I don't mind doing the checking of the pH but this is just making sure it doesn't break more. AHS said, "I'm sorry. This is a result of something else." I said, "I just need somebody to come fix it." Apparently, they can't find anybody in the area, which is odd, because there's a hundred spa places around me. But one person did offer for me to be able to go pay for it myself and get reimbursed, and there's just no chance of that happening. My concern is with the call center, but people are doing the best they can. Everybody has been super nice and very friendly.
Good Morning Matthew,

When we first purchased our home, we had problems with our air conditioning and heating, and Home Shield was really prompt. It’s an easy system of submitting the claims whether one calls or do it online. Then, the contractors that I’ve encountered have been amazingly friendly and knowledgeable, and they also explained everything that was going on. Recently, Ideal Services came out for the motion-sensor spotlight on our porch. It was just going off and on and clicking inside where the switch was. I do not know anything about electrical and we wanted to have somebody come out because the biggest concern was a fire. Bottom line, the guy's diagnosis was that the switch was actually a mechanical problem inside. He was there for maybe 20 minutes, took care of it, and put regular switches at my request. It’s working fine now. So, I’ve been really satisfied with the two contractors I've had.

Our home warranty is like an insurance policy. It came with the house when we bought it, and it was handy so I extended it a second year. Whenever I have a claim, all I have to do is call and tell AHS what the problem is, then they get a hold of whatever contractor I need to take care of the problem. It's an easy process and the contractors have all been fairly responsive and dependable. They come out quick, so I’m happy with it.
One weekend, everything was plugged up in the house since the roots of the palm tree in the front yard had plugged the main drain coming out of the house. My wife called on Sunday and the plumber from Supreme Plumbing came out on Monday. They went in through an access in the front of the house and cleaned the roots out and then the drain started working.

My furnace would work but then its fan and elements wouldn't turn off. I had to close the breaker and called in a claim to American Home Shield. Their process was very simple for me. AHS set the referral to Choice Electric who contacted me. Choice Electric's techs had to come three times. Every time they came out, they found something else that was wrong. First, they replaced the thermostat. But then, when they went to shut down the furnace, the tech said it'd be a slowdown. It all goes from a high speed to a low speed and it shuts down. It wouldn't kick off like I had initially told them.
At that point, the tech realized it wasn't the thermostat and he said he had to come back to see if they can get the board replaced. He came back again, he realized that he couldn't get the board, so they were just gonna do a rewire of something. So he came back the third time and rewired, and it's been working great ever since. I'm very happy with the service from AHS. It is well worth it.

I'll try to keep this short...do I have valid complaint(s!!!!) about AHS? Absolutely! But rather than go through them all I will just explain how AHS works. They are in it to make money, not "help" you, in doing so this means they hire substandard contractors that DO THEIR bidding! If they don't, they don't get used again... If there IS a claim, and it costs more than what you pay a year? Sorry, but the claim will not get paid... (It actually says this VERY clearly if you read the contract.) Between this, and the fact that after reading the contract in full, there are actually VERY VERY few things that are covered. You will find that AHS will get out of each and every claim in somehow, some way.
But at the end of the day..IF they pay out anything, it will be less than what you pay them! Please RUN while you can. Or know this, the amount you pay them every year is your gift to them...period. That's where it ends. Do not expect anything in return. You are simply paying their CEO to afford a bigger house this year. NOTHING MORE!! Please don't believe that I'm the only one. The reviews that seem to make it up on their website, and here for that matter all seem to be 5 stars? Do your research. Facebook, BBB. The info is all there, just look before throwing away your money.

There were so many recurring issues w/ my AC not cooling. Service tickets created on 6/24, 7/3, 7/10/19. On 8/14/19, Rutan Refrigeration replaced 3-ton condenser by 2-ton condenser. The temperatures used to be 77F (before replacement) became 90F (after replacement). I made call in August to follow up, no one called me back. On 9/30/19, I spoke with Mariz to request cash out option for AC. He advised me that someone will call me back in 2 business days which did not happen. On 10/4/19, I spoke with Fionia to follow up. She initiated a recall request to the vendor relation with dispatch# **. Rutan Refrigeration called me to schedule appointment but they cancelled without telling me.
On 10/11/19, I spoke with Carl to follow up. No one called me back. On 10/14/19, I spoke with Yen who promised to call me back in 30 min but she did not. She gave me AHS fax so I faxed over the Diagnosis report conducted on 10/9/19 by 808 Air Conditioning stating "Measured pressure/temps indicate the Freon is contaminated with R22 residue and R410 mixture and is unstable. Mixed 3 ton indoor and 2 ton outdoor capacity is inefficient. Complete removal and new installation of both indoor/outdoor units is recommended."
On 10/16/19, I spoke with Via. Acknowledged that they received my faxed report. She said she will escalate my request and will call me back and no one called me back. On 10/28/19, I spoke with Shirlane who said there was no fax received and no indication of any escalation was filed. All along, they have lied to me to make me wait for nothing. AHS rather protects the vendor, Rutan Refrigeration who caused "the freon is contaminated with R22 residue and R410 mixture and is unstable". My tenant has been very furious to me due to the contamination could lead to their health issues. Would you please kindly help me to resolve this issue as soon as you can as it has been dragged too long since August 2019. Thank you so much.

There was a leak under the water heater and so I filed a claim online. At first, the website was a little difficult to navigate and it was kind of a pain because it didn’t recognize me. I didn’t know if my contract had been filed in the system yet ‘cause I had just bought the house a week before. It took a day or two before it finally recognized me, but they had gotten back with me as soon as I got the claim submitted.
I also went through the Frequently Asked Questions, and it said there that the contractor has to be here within 24 business hours per the guidelines, and then they have to get back with them within 48 business hours. I had some kind of reasonable expectations and the contractor Mega Star Plumbing gave me a timeline. They told me when to expect to get the equipment replaced, and they actually got it replaced two days sooner. They were quick, thorough, and very polite. Everything went by very well and very smoothly. The experience was satisfying ‘cause they got out here and I don’t have any problems with the water heater now. Having the warranty seemed to work out well for me so far.

Greenway Home Services weren’t able to fix the pipe. We have galvanized pipes and it was completely rusted. This would not go to American Home Shield because they don't pay for that. But Greenway gave us an estimate to completely redo the plumbing in the house. They came out the following Monday, and then, they called the supervisor out, and they were going through everything that was gonna have to be done. When they left, the plumber said they'd like to start big jobs on the first of the week. I called Thursday to let them know that we were looking for them to come Monday morning. By 10 o’clock on Monday morning, no one showed up and the plumber never called me back. So, I called again Monday and the supervisor said she was on the phone and she would call me back. She never returned my call.
So, I assumed they didn’t want the job, and it was handled very unprofessionally. They should have at least called and told me that they were not gonna do the job. So, they're on my bad list right now. I’m not happy with them. They should return somebody’s call. We’ve had the policy with AHS for several years now. They’ve been able to help us and we’ve enjoyed working with them. Since we don’t have a computer in my mother’s home, it doesn't help us when we call their number. We hear repeatedly, “It’d be easier to do it on the web....” It takes forever to call and talk to someone on the phone. The lady at Greenway gave me the number that they call to get in touch with AHS. And that call was promptly answered, and it went smoothly. So I'm glad I have that phone number now. But the phone number that’s on the bill, it’s a nightmare to try to get through to place an order.

American Home Shield got Royal Flush AC and Heating to do a routine maintenance on my system and they found the system is working fine. The blades in there need to be cleaned, which had never been cleaned in the 13 years that I've lived here, so they're gonna come out and clean those to make the system work a little more efficiently.
American Home Shield's customer service is usually pretty good, but I was a little upset from a service call that I had with my faucets. I spent over $1,000 to have my faucets replaced and some other pipes done, and they said they would pay me $123. It has been several months but I never saw it. I sent them everything by email as they requested and I didn't get a response. I also sent it all by registered mail to make sure they signed for it and they didn't pick it up. It was returned. So, I'm disappointed in that part. $100 is not much considering I had to spend $1,000 to have this done, but if they say they're gonna pay you some money, they should send it in, especially when you send all the documentation that they requested. I felt like I was getting a runaround.

Our furnaces were not working consistently. The tech came out and tried to clean our flame sensors, but they were still not working consistently. The furnaces kinda turn on sometimes, but sometimes, they don’t. So we have kept that work order open. The tech is going to come and replace both flame sensors. I’ve paid the $75 on that. American Home Shield has been good so far about answering questions and honoring claims. They are easy to talk to. They are friendly, and helpful people on the phone. They also have a user-friendly website. Our dryer blew up and caught fire within a month of living here. So I’ve already worked through a full appliance replacement with them. They were very fair and very good to work with and honored what they said they were gonna honor. So I’m pretty pleased with American Home Shield so far.
They have good contractors that will get the work done and honor what is covered under warranty. The contractors have been mostly very good. We had a plumber come out that did not really do the greatest job, didn’t sort of listen to the work order, and didn’t do that good. But it was just a matter of that particular company. They did come back out a couple of more times and finally fixed what they were supposed to. But we’ve had people come and look at our furnace, and they’ve been real responsive, and honoring the work order and the fee. So I’ve been very pleased.

For three years that I've been with AHS, there were a couple of problems with the claims process. A lot of times, it takes a little while to get in, to talk to somebody. They need to improve in that area. But they try to do it pretty good. When my water heater started to leak and I knew it was time to replace it, I didn't call AHS. Within the next day or so, my lights went out and I had the sump pump to back up, and I had about 14 inches of water. So, by then, AHS said there was no way they could tell whether the water heater problem was from the flood or from the water heater just being bad. I could understand that.
They didn't have any proof and they wouldn’t pay the repair of the water heater. For the plumbing claim, everything went pretty well. The people who came out were very good and knowledgeable. They just had to open a sewer. I have recommended AHS to other people. I also received an advertisement about where they'd have gutter cleaning, and I could use some of that right now.

We've had American Home Shield since we lived in Memphis, Tennessee, around 2000 or 2001. They’ve always been timely with their responses and let you know the cost upfront. And they're pretty dependable. In September, our washer and dryer went out, and then last month, our AC motor blower went out, which is a $2,000 job alone. Also, our AC unit went out in the summer before last. American Home Shield has always stepped up and has good customer service.
Their contractors are knowledgeable. They don’t hem-and-haw or small talk, instead they assess the problem quickly and diagnose it, and then they us what we need. It's always time relative as to when they can show up, and that has been the way since the cable guys said they would be out there in four hours. And you can't really be upset about them not showing up for four hours as they’ve been really well in communicating when they would be there.
This last guy we had, Anthony, he was calling me 30 minutes out to say he was headed my way. So, we knew the day he was coming and between hours he would show up. We also got texts from his company saying that our technician has been dispatched to the property and how many minutes before they could be there. And that helps me. Both my wife and I work, so we can't just sit there for five hours and wait. They were very communicative in his arrival time, so that was good. Kudos to them.

Filing my claim online was simple. I was able to go and just click on what I thought the problem was. The pool was going down rapidly and I saw water coming out of the heater and out of the top of the filter. I couldn't tell what the issue was so I clicked everything I could think it could be and let them diagnose it and figure it out when the guy came out there. I clicked filter, heater, and plumbing. It ended up being the filter and the heater. I filed that claim on a weekend and the contractor showed up on a Tuesday. He had to get parts but within a couple of working days, he had everything back up and going.
I also dealt with AHS on another property. They paid for the new item immediately and shipped it out there. But late yesterday, the tech that they sent out told me that he was booked up and needed a few weeks. He told me to let AHS know in case there was somebody else they could to install it sooner. Hopefully, AHS is sending somebody new out.
I've used other insurance and AHS seems to be the best for me, so far. The other one I used was a headache. They didn't wanna do anything. They had to replace the defroster, then they replaced the brain chip, then they replaced something else. The people they call are great, and everything works now. I also like the app that they are using. It was wonderful. It tells you when the serviceman is coming out and where he is located. I used my iPhone and it showed me exactly where he was en route. Then they also gave me an estimation as to what time that he would arrive and that was right on. So, I was very happy. I would definitely use AHS again.
I bought this house a year ago. This is the second house I bought in the last couple of years, and we had Fidelity, which did crummy work. I called on that house a couple of times and I have nothing but trouble. Fidelity charged me money, they couldn’t fix the problem, and on and on it went. Then the second time I called, they said the refrigerator was installed wrongly, and they couldn’t take care of it. It was wrong, and that was a nightmare. So, I’m very happy with AHS. I would highly recommend them if I ever buy another house. They were great.

I've had them before and the guy was my plumber. It was perfect. But my contractor pointed out that American Home Shield is the only people that have a $125 deductible. It’s a lot higher than anybody else he was working with.

I've recommended AHS. We have two homes both covered with them and we'll be renewing them on both homes. When our toilet was crap, the contractor from Mission Plumbing came, saw what the issue was, got on his cell phone and had another guy swing by and pick up the stuff. An hour or so, they were done with everything. I went, "Wow." By the time he had it cleaned up the mess, guys had dropped off their unit and installed it. I've used Mission Plumbing before, and for some reason that their warranty program won't cover something, they give you the recommendations to try and help you out. I go with Mission all the time. They were right there, on the job.

He said there was a piece that went out, and he didn’t need to fix it. He’d replace it, and they’d get back to me, and he left. Some other people came and installed the new microwave. The only thing is years ago, AHS didn’t cover a refrigerator of ours and they should have.

AHS was always good to me. I’ve been a loyal customer for about six years and I'm a big fan. When American Home Shield offered a tune-up service, I asked for it. I promised them that I could have this service done at the closing of my home. But they came back two days later after I made this promise and said that they didn’t have anybody in the area that can possibly offer that service. It was ridiculous because it was a week away at the time. Then there was this whole to-do, and my real estate agent got involved. I just needed somebody to come out to my house and check and make sure my HVAC is in good working order, which is pretty much something that’s required under the AHS bylaws anyway. Now, I have officially gotten someone who is supposed to come out Friday morning at 8 o’clock.
Last week, the guy from Stillwell Plumbing came out twice and he was great. He fixed everything I needed him to. He did exactly what he was expected of. He was nice about it to boot. With this claim, AHS was able to send out the plumber the next day after I submitted the claim which was pretty impressive. The other ones before was like two or three days.

My water heater kept going out every other day so I got online to file a claim with AHS. The first vendor couldn’t fix it. This was the second vendor that they sent out and he was very polite and on time. I’ve been with AHS for several years for two townhomes. This is the first time they actually paid on a claim. I had a claim earlier this year in my rental home, it’s a 21-year-old AC, and they didn’t pay for it saying it was user, that it was not due to normal wear and tear. I almost dropped the coverage and I am actually shopping for a new company.
The technician saw some kind of thing in there and that was what he turned in, and I guarantee that was what they were trying to do with the water heater, too. The first technician basically said they need a new water heater. So, instead of doing it, they sent out a second technician, trying to find something wrong. They couldn’t find anything they could blame it on me. They did the same at my rental home. I had an issue with a 30-year-old furnace they didn’t pay for. They said it was user error. So AHS is not a good company. They either reward their vendors that don’t turn in a lot of replacements, claims, or something’s going on.
I should have fought it, but I just didn’t have time to fight it. They take their time so that you get frustrated and you could just pay for it out of your own pocket. I had my own guy that I paid extra for that came out and did everything. He inspected and said there was nothing I could do. There was nothing wrong that I did. And he gave me a bid and I shared that with the technicians that AHS sent out so they couldn’t really lie about it.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

The ceiling was wet and dripping, so I thought there was a leak upstairs in my pipe. I submitted the claim online and American Home Shield's website was very easy to use. They said that that the contractors would be out in 24 to 48 hours. Charlotte Plumbing Masters was fine. The guy told me that it was an HVAC issue and that it was not a plumbing issue. So, it really was not resolved, but that’s not their fault. We then had to get a different contractor out.
An HVAC contractor came out and told me that my shut-off valve failed, and that it would probably be more expensive to fix it than it would be for a new unit because of North Carolina law. The R22 standards in our state is pretty strict. He soaked up some water, did what he could from that initial inspection, and provided his findings and quote in a timely manner. He was great. However, I'm dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I purchased the policy when I bought my home in June with the understanding that my HVAC was fully covered, and now they are telling me that it is not.
I apologize for the inconvenience Jennifer. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

I called the 800 number on the warranty information when I had a problem with the dryer and then Home Shield had someone call to schedule the appointment. When you call to get a repair, you gotta wait usually three or four days before someone comes and makes the repair. In that occasion, Murphy came out and my daughter was there. She said the dryer wasn't working before they came, and they said a wheel was bad. They replaced it and the dryer is working great after they came.
We've had one claim that Home Shield declined, but I understood why. They wouldn't fix the hot water heater because it was under a 10-year warranty. But the warranty was not transferable. Since the previous owners bought the hot water heater, the hot water people wouldn't honor their warranty, and then Home Shield said they weren't gonna pay the claim. But I understand that that's their rule. It's been a good service so far.

Other than that, I like submitting my claims online but you’re not able to write down what your problem is on their website. You can only do a category and that’s it. But the category doesn’t tell you what’s wrong with the situation. So if they had more of us making a detailed description of what it was online, I would do it online. I understand that they have to have some character limits but that’s gonna really help a whole lot.

Originally, it was $40 to have somebody come out for a visit. Now, it's $100. So, in 20 years that I've been with American Home Shield, their price has doubled. I thought about dropping them but they're doing a pretty good job. I had them with my other house, which I had sold in North Carolina. And when I bought a beach house down here, I put AHS on it as well.
I'm familiar with the online process of filing a claim but I prefer to call and talk to somebody. Sometimes it is difficult getting through and sometimes, I just call and get right through. AHS is prompt. Usually, there's somebody that come right on out and get the work done just like the guy who came to fix the washing machine. The washing machine had a couple of parts on it in the tub that had worn out that had to be replaced. The disc wobbled and sounded like it was coming through the floor. The young man was top-notch. He looked at it, and he knew exactly what was wrong with it, diagnosed it right away and made a phone call. I live in North Myrtle Beach and the part was in Main Myrtle Beach. He was on his way to do another repair there and while he was there, he picked up the parts. He came and fixed the washing machine, so I was really pleased.

I was like, “What’s that all about?” But companies do whatever they feel like doing and we’re at their mercy. A friend of mine had signed up with American Home Shield and had some positive experiences. I gave them a try, and so far, it has gone very well. Most recently, I had a repair to my ice machine. I’ve actually had that fixed twice under their services for totally different issues each time. Outside of American Home Shield, I’ve had the refrigerator repaired three other times, so it’s a known issue with this model. And this last time, they just replaced it completely.
And then, over the summer, my dryer went. At the cost to repair it, it could be replaced for a couple of dollars more. So, they offered me the option to either repair it, which would cost them say, five hundred something dollars, or they would give me 550 to replace it. I decided to replace it for that extra couple of dollars, and the whole process was seamless. Submitting the paperwork was easy and I got the check very quickly. Plus, my experience with their contractors has also been positive. I’ve had two different contractors for the ice machine and both have been great. The same contractor that came this last time for my ice machine is also the one that came for my dryer issue, and they were prompt and professional both times.
I would like for them to improve their website, though, as it doesn’t provide a whole lot of communication once you become a customer. I could pull up my contract and all the documents, and I could see that I’ve placed a claim, but that’s where it drops. Another thing would be for when I call to ask questions, like, they’re offering a promotion right now on HVAC maintenance where you’d pay $75 per unit and have your unit checked. I wanna know what that involves but I had to stay on hold for 35 minutes trying to get through to a customer service representative and never got an answer. And you don’t find it on the website too. But as a whole, I will probably stay around because American Home Shield provides a great level of coverage. They cover all of my appliances and both of my HVAC systems. The things that are mechanically prone to break are covered. And I have that additional assurance instead of that shock factor out my wallet.

For a claim, I do it online. It’s straightforward, they make it really simple, and I have records of it. The contractors have been good also. I had some pool problems and where I live, trying to get somebody that knows anything about pools is sketchy. It has been kind of a nightmare, but American Home Shield stayed with me until they found me somebody who could get it done. The woman that helped me was Matissa, and she was so fabulous and stayed in touch with me. I wish there were about 100 of Matissas. There were a couple of contractors, but Watertight Pool & Spa was the one that finally came out and got everything A-Okay. So, I really appreciate Home Shield's help. And since then, I’ve already bought 2 other policies from them for some 2 homes that I have for sale. I feel that good about what they do.

We were paying about $1,000 a year to American Home Shield, and that was with a $75 deductible. When I renewed, I went over everything and I knocked off some things because I was buying all new appliance. So I dropped it down to $875, and I went to a $100 deductible. I have a pool so I added that to the policy. When I realized that one of my pump motors in my pool was going, I called the people that take care of my pool every week, and it came up about $400 for this motor. It was grinding like crazy. I live in Florida, and if you’re in Florida, you have a real problem if you don’t have water circulating on that. So, I called up American Home Shield on Saturday.
The only thing I was a little disappointed with was that I’m old school and I like to talk to people, and it was really hard to do it. I read the policy, and it said somebody would get back with me in 24 hours. So I called again Monday morning and I was really worried that this was not gonna be taken care of. I got ahold of a representative from American Home Shield who said that the person that was gonna fix this had a 24-hour window to call me. I replied that we’d already lost the weekend and I was three days without filtering my pool. Lo and behold, I got this call from ABNation and it said that they would be out between 11:00 and 1:00. That sounded great to me.
At 11:00, this kid showed up in my door. His name was Daniel, and he said he was there to fix my pool. We went in the back, I showed him what was wrong, and I asked him if he had the parts because he had to have the gasketing material. He said he had everything, and in half an hour, my pool was running. I was happy as a lark. I tipped the kid. He was very upbeat and presentable. He was so positive. He represented his company as well as American Home Shield of picking them as a person. So right now, I’m real happy. I got my pool fixed, and it cost me a 100 bucks versus $400.

I've been with American Home Shield for three years and my recent claim was the first time I've used them for something that was actually covered. I had to have some work done on one of the springs on the garage door that broke a year and a half ago, and found that the actual garage door itself is not covered, but the garage door opener is. There were limitations but I got more clarity from that previous experience as to what exactly was covered concerning my garage door, opener, and the remotes.
Initially, it appeared that AHS wasn't gonna cover anything related to the outside garage door opener pad ‘cause it's an add-on to the actual motor that does the lifting of the garage door. They only cover the garage door opener itself and so I was just gonna have Sesame come out and do the work. Because it was more cost effective to do it that way than to pay my $125 service fee to American Home Shield.
So I called Open Sesame ‘cause I had worked with them through American Home Shield before. When the contractor got here, he replaced the outdoor pad opener with a new one then discovered that the motor had a problem. One of the gears was broken and had to be replaced. I called American Home Shield and told them the situation. I said, “The service man said that it has to be repaired. And he says all we need is a work order from you guys, and then they can work together with you.” I was anticipating AHS would say, “Well, you called the contractor out without having an initial work order from us. And no, we can’t take care of that now.” But they said, “Okay. Even though you didn’t have a work order when he first came out, we can give you a work order now, so that you can have it covered. Pay your fee.”
I paid the $125 fee to American Home Shield, and then I paid the balance to Open Sesame, but it saved me money. In other words, AHS ended up covering it. Both American Home Shield and Open Sesame worked with me and I was impressed with the way I was able to coordinate them once it was discovered that one of the problems was something that was covered by AHS.
Then, I had the contractor come back for a follow-up because there was more adjustment that had to be done on the door. Within the week, the door would stop, not open all the way or close all the way. But Open Sesame came back with no charge. The same technician made some more adjustments on the actual motor controls Then it’s been fine since. Overall, it was a positive experience. I was impressed with American Home Shield's flexibility and their willingness to work.

Omg where do I start. Was a loyal AHS member for 15 years but this last go around was too much and I jumped ship to Amazon's new service. It all started when the water heater took a dump. That is where the scheming between AHS and their plumber started. I learned troubling things about how AHS works with the plumber to do everything possible to either avoid approving the claim, or creating other fees like "bringing the unit up to code" even though the unit was up to code. When you call you will be on hold forever and when you finally get someone, they are overseas, and don't always have a mastery of the English language. They are great with the canned responses like "I'm sorry for the trouble this issue has caused you" etc. I know because the 7 times I called this last issue every rep said the same line. Lol.
The bottom line is When you have a claim, AHS is not there to help you, their sole focus is figuring out a way to not pay the claim. Trust me, a 15 year customer, use ANY other home warranty company. I think they are the worst company that I have ever dealt with...and I have dealt with a lot of companies. Great commercials though, but really the grim reaper in the commercial is AHS.
Hi Jeff,

Of course there are good reviews when all goes well. As for us folks that aren't home experts and use AHS to come troubleshoot our issues, when it is figured in the first 5 minutes that it can't be fixed or isn't covered then you're out of $75. Then you have to pay out of pocket in addition to get it repaired. AHS doesn't care if you want a refund, they're not going to give it back. If we knew what was wrong and that it wasn't covered then we wouldn't waste our money with you people. All the unhappy reviews says they're working on a resolution but it looks like the response is a formality and I'm sure problems aren't getting solved.

I have called them, emailed them, and have gotten harassing emails and letters from them. On October 24th, my payment on the next month was due, so I called to cancel the policy on October 8th. They failed to follow my instructions, and instead sent me harassing emails and letters saying that I am past due. I have tried to call them several times, and have either been hung up on or put on hold for a very extended time. I thought this was the land of the free, but their business tactics are anything but. I have tried to get them to reference my complaints with some sort of number, but they have put me on hold. Victor **

Plumber came to house and left without fixing anything. Later on home shield service department called me and told me that they are declining coverage on all issues because pipes and faucets were old and not in a good shape. They also refused to return money for the visit. If everything was brand new and in great shape why would I need warranty??

We've had American Home Shield since March, and everything in my house that could have broken has broken. Each time I’ve called, they’ve always been very responsive. I haven’t always gotten the answers that I liked, but it was the answer that it should have been the answer to. And it was very polite, nice and explanatory. So even though I didn’t like the answer, I knew why the answer was what it was. I recently called and they told me that I would get an email, which I did. The plumbing company contacted me so we set up a time for the gentleman to come out and fix it. He showed up on time, and everything was really good.

I've used Home Shield a lot over the last few years. My experience has always been very good. It's worth its weight in gold. On my most recent claim, they sent Hamilton's Appliance Service out for my claim on the conveyor belt on the drum that was worn out. It was slipping, so the contractor replaced that. I went on the internet to do the claim, and Home Shield's website was very easy to use. Home Shield gave me the contractor's contact info and this was Sunday when I filed the claim. They told me to call the contractor's office if I did not hear from the contractor within 24 hours. But the guy called an hour later. The system would come on and cycle off every two minutes. R&K Heating and Cooling came out and we had a very professional interaction. If I ever have any problems in the near future, they would be my go-to people. It took them about 48 hours to resolve the issue. It was from the weekend and they came out that Monday. But I wasn't too good with that. I would like to see somebody being able to do weekend calls. AHS had Central Heating & Air in their list and they couldn't fix an air conditioner in my dog house, if I had a dog house. They were very unprofessional. When I found out that they were sending them out, I called American Home Shield and they sent R&K Heating and Cooling that rectified the situation. With the exception of them not able to send a contractor out during a weekend call, I would still recommend them.

They are my go-to when there’s a problem and they helped me with all sorts of issues in plumbing, refrigerator, washer, dryer, and all the different services that I have. I prefer to submit claims online and it's a fairly easy process. But there are certain features that are not available so I end up calling them in depending on which the issue is. They are friendly, thorough, and seem to be very knowledgeable. However, there's a problem if I get one of the agents who can be difficult to understand as they may have some of their agents in foreign countries and it may be the call quality or the language barrier.
I also have a problem in getting a contractor. Some of their contractors are not as good or quality-driven as others and some of them have several calls to my house but they can’t fix stuff. So, if I want to use a different contractor, the automated system just puts me through the next available. I would have to call in and say, “I don’t want to use ABC contractor,” and that I've seen them in the past. But it’s better than the risk to take if I go outside of them.

So, it used to heat very quickly but then over the last few months, it has progressively gotten worse to where it had to be running for 15 or 20 minutes to heat. One time, there was a loud noise coming from the heating system when the heater goes on. That noise was progressively getting louder. I submitted a claim to AHS and Tempest HVAC came out that same week. We had Barry Johnson Electric out here through a claim that we filed with American Home Shield, and it was awesome. I followed the guy around, but not all the time, because I was interested in what he was doing. From my understanding, it all stems from one light switch. When one switch is fixed, sometimes it would run, and the next switch wouldn't work. The guy went from one end of the house to the other, and once he would get one switch fixed, the next one that he went to would not be working even though it was working before he fixed the one before it. So, it was a matter of working through it, coming down one by one and checking the switches and the outlets, until he found the one that was the culprit. And once he found that, everything was fine. This guy definitely knows what he's doing, and everything was handled as well as it could be. American Home Shield has been awesome and we appreciate it.

One of the heating elements on the oven went out. We called AHS a week and a half ago and filed a claim and it is still ongoing. It's so old and they were unable to get parts for it, so they've offered to buy me another one or offered me a cash settlement. We had a cooktop and then we had a built-in oven, which went out. I tore the cooktop out to make room for the stove because my wife decided she didn't want the built-in and that she wanted just a regular slide-in stove. Now, we've got an electrician on the way out, supposed to be here in about 30 minutes, to wire the plugs, so we can go down and buy a stove and put in there. So far, everything has been real good.

They were in contact with Home Shield as well. The problem was much more extensive than we originally thought, so they took about 5 days and the same people were here the entire time. There have been a lot of issues with this house we moved into and American Home Shield has been great at helping to fix them, so I'm very happy. Nana Services Inc. came for the stove several months ago and they were not able to fix it. But they did a great job of looking at the stove, diagnosing it and trying to find parts. We got the stove which American Home Shield is paying for, but when the Nana installer tech came, because our stove is inset into a tile countertop, he said he didn't know how to do it, which was fine. We wanted it done well. And then, American Home Shield called and said that tile access is not covered. So, we're currently looking for somebody independent to do it. I wouldn't have minded paying extra. It would have been nice if we could've had Nana and their tech, even if they charge us extra. He was very flexible on scheduling, and it was a positive experience.

However, I would like to know if there was a $75 charge for the checkup and then also the $125 charge for the co-pay on the replacement part, which I believe was a capacitor. I believe if you call somebody in for a checkup and they find something and there’s a charge for that, the charge should be deleted if it leads to the actual work being done. The gentleman that came out to repair my dishwasher told me that he repaired it. He also told me not to run the dishwasher until I got a bottle of Glisten Dishwasher Magic. He told me it would clean out any residue that was left in the dishwasher. I did not have the finances to buy the product, so I waited until my next payday. But, then, I was also in the hospital for gallbladder removal. When I got the product, I ran it through the dishwasher, and it did not improve. It did not dry my dishes as well. So, I called back, and they told me on the line that there was nothing I could do because I did not call within the timeframe. I apologized and said what happened and they said it did not matter and that I had 10 days and 10 days only. They did not care that I’m past the two weeks, and that I would have to make another call, which would cost me another $100.
I called the repairman and he said, “I can’t help you. You’ll have to call American Home Shield, and then they’ll dispatch me back.” I said, “Perfect.” The repairman was excellent. I was a little late getting back to my house, and he said, “No problem. I’ll wait for you.” He then told me what to do, and that it was just my fault for not having the finances to buy the Magic product to get rid of the residue. He said it was from the stickers and stuff that came out off bottles and pickle jars, or anything that might’ve gotten caught in the dishwasher. He never came back out and looked.
I was dissatisfied that nobody even let me talk to a manager. So, my dishwasher is still not working and I’ve been washing my dishes for a couple of months. On the other hand, my first claim to them was on my air conditioner and it was excellent. AHS was wonderful. It took forever to get the air conditioner in the dead summer, but that was how it goes in the middle of summer. I was just thankful to have an insurance. Overall, AHS is a great way to go. With it, I don’t worry about things breaking now.

My claim with AHS was primarily with the garbage disposal with some secondary plumbing issues that the contractor, His & Hers Plumbing, dealt with while they were out here. I did the claim over the phone, but I did speak with a representative because there were some other things I needed to add on there. When you do the automated, it only dispatches one thing. The person I spoke to on the phone was kind of having an issue figuring out one of my service items. It was a hose bib and trying to figure out how to put it on there took a little bit of time. But overall, I've been very happy. I've had service with them for 10 years now at the same property, so I've kept it on.
The contractors are really nice to work with. They were able to get me taken care of. I had a time commitment that would be only being able to be here for a short period of time. So, that was really nice. The gentleman who was here was one of the service managers. He was very efficient, very knowledgeable and diagnosed everything. He was in and out within 40 minutes. He changed the disposal out, fixed a couple of plumbing issues, and he was gone. I was very surprised how quick everything went. And it worked out really well because I had another appointment to get to. I've had a lot of different vendors over the past 10 years, and it's probably one of the most efficient fixes of something where I thought it was gonna take a while. He came on time and in a matter of about 10 minutes, he troubleshooted it and said that the bearings were going out and that there was nothing else to do as of that time because the expense to do the repairs was more than what my home warranty would cover. We decided we’re just gonna use it up until it dies.
The technician came in a personal car and I asked him for his business card because he did not have an attire. There was nothing on his body that said Star Services. But he got a pin because he was out of business cards. He also said that their truck that they normally use was being repaired. He was nice enough, came in and got the job done, and he gave me a quote on installing the dishwasher because that had just got hauled out. In this instance, it worked out fine but my concern is that they need to be professional-looking and have business cards especially because I'm a woman and my husband’s not home.

AHS keeps sending people from out of the area to do a job that could easily be done and even though I had to request somebody from the area so I didn’t have to wait as long, I did wait long. I contacted American Home Shield over the phone for the toilet and a leaking faucet. I requested someone local for this claim. Emergency Plumbing took one week to come out but they came on time and they were very cordial. The guy did the toilet, but he had to order a faucet and that took another week. Everything has been completed since then but two weeks to do it was a little lengthy.
It’s as simple as looking at the area code to see who’s local or the same zip code, but nobody looks into that. Every time I have a claim, they would refer me someone from very far and they would say that the contractor services the area too. I understand but that takes longer and by the time they get here, they're frustrated. They don’t wanna do the work like the first ones who came for a leaking shower. They didn’t know what they were doing. They came from very far and they didn’t fix the problem so, my husband told them what it was. Once they did that, they fixed it right. What they are able to do to access the actual problem is very limited. They cannot remove debris or anything like that to get to it.
I apologize for the inconvenience Jehan. I can understand frustration in regards to your plumbing. My name is Stacy, and I've emailed you as I would like to follow up with you until the issue is resolved.

I had a garbage disposal issue and a contractor was sent in a very reasonable timeframe. He came on the date that we agreed upon. The good thing about the experience is that the gentleman that came out kept me informed when he was coming via text messaging. I told him I was running a little behind, but he was okay with that. Then he came in, identified the problem, and fixed the issue. I've used AHS twice. I've heard some bad things about them, but I can only speak from my own personal experience. Their contractors came here and fixed the problem. There were no issues, so I'm satisfied.

Then they had a man out out the next day and he replaced the faucets. I also had a leak under my sink and it turned out that a gasket has slid off the pipe evidently. Right now, I'll be calling there again. I got wax seals shot in the toilet and I can't wait to lose them.

We were satisfied with our claim on our HTG where A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out. The guy named Kevin was able to diagnose the problem. He did a super job. We had one simple problem where the gas was turned off, and he fixed that. Then something else weird happened, and he came and got it back up and running. Something else weird happened again, and that was when he said, "You know what, I bet you it's the circuit board." So, he showed up with the circuit board already in hand, was able to get in there quickly, get it swapped out, and we've had no trouble since. He was courteous, quick and efficient, too. It went pretty smooth for somebody that had to come out three times, and I appreciate his persistence in sticking with it.
We got American Home Shield as a one-year trial when we first bought our previous house and we have been happy enough to stick with it. But, there have been a number of times where we have had problems and there was some sort of a loophole as to why they didn't take care of them. It seems like it should have been something they would handle, but they just said, "Sorry, by contract, we don't."

He asked me where my thermostats where, both upstairs and downstairs, and where the actual units were in the attic, and he checked all of those. And then, he came on and said that everything was looking good. I've been with AHS for a couple of months now and so far, I've been really happy with the service. It's been convenient. My dad has a warranty with them too. We have been looking for some other optional services, like handyman, etc. And if AHS ever had suggestions for people who could do trim works and things like that, that would be awesome.

My range stopped working one time and there was an error code that came up on the screen. I submitted a claim to AHS and they sent Wright Appliance Service & Repair. The contractor was fast and immediately said what was wrong with it and tried to look for the part. AHS tried to look for the part as well but then said they were gonna issue a replacement.
The problem is that they send you a link to do the replacement and if you don’t click all the way through the entire replacement questions, there are two other pages where you have to do some confirmation pieces. AHS didn't tell me that my request for a replacement didn't go through. So, I called to check and see where my appliance was and I'm starting all over. While Wright Appliance was immediate, American Home Shield was not. They just ordered the replacement appliance today.

My garbage disposal wasn’t working and I didn’t know how to clear it. I called AHS and their response time was so quick. They set me up with My Good Plumber and the gentleman came out and fixed it for me. He was very nice. He introduced himself and slipped on the little booties over his shoes so he wouldn't mess up my floor. He came in, evaluated the situation, and told me what was going on. I told him that I usually don’t use the garbage disposal because I didn’t want to accidentally put anything down there that shouldn’t go.
He cleared the garbage disposal out and he told me that it was in really good condition and that it just needed to be reset. He showed me how to do that and told me that it’s okay to use it every now and again, even if I don’t have a lot going down there, just to keep it going. He also told me that I could use ice chips to keep the blades sharp. I've never heard that before, so that was a good tip. I had another property with them before I moved into this house, so altogether I've been with them for four years.

The guy from River City Appliance was fine. The belt totally had stripped out after he had already replaced and fixed it after having been out three times, and then he said that the drum was deteriorating as well. There was couple other things that he said were wrong with the appliance, too. I didn't pay close enough attention because he said he was going to put it all in and that it may be cheaper for American Home Shield to replace it than to fix it.
I have been with this home warranty company for nine years and it would be nice if I got replacement value on my stuff. I’ve probably paid for everything in whole of that has ever been replaced, but I paid for it at $57 a month every month instead of having to come up with $2,500 here, $1,000 there for the course of nine years. $50 over nine years is $5,400, and that is about the amount that it would've cost me to replace the different appliances that I had replaced. So, having AHS is good if you do not have a lot of cash terms.

I had an issue with my icemaker/water dispenser on the fridge. I went to change the water filter inside the fridge, and when I did, I went to bleed out the air in the filter. But as soon as I pushed the filter or the water dispenser, it was sending out the ice and the water would not shut off at all. It was all over the place. And the only way I could shut it off was to open the door, and then I had to lock the buttons out. That was where things went haywire. I scheduled for a service with American Home Shield online and then their rep called later over the phone for me to explain what was going on.
The service guy from Wright Appliance came out, looked at it and got it fixed really quick as soon as I showed him what was going on. He knew something was up because the water wasn’t coming out correctly. He pulled the thing off and the tube where the water feeds in to the dispenser came off. It was pinched between the icemaker and the water dispenser part. So, he moved that and pushed it in and everything worked.

I got an email from AHS saying that they had a special tune-up for $75 and that I could pay online, and the guy would come out and check everything about my heating system before wintertime set in. I did that and the tech from Carolina Heating & Cooling did come out. When he was doing all the checking, he discovered a part that was just on the brink of failing, and he said, if it fails, it will break, and if it breaks, the parts may get into the fan and other things, and it may cause a lot of damage. So, he recommended that I replace it right then on that visit. He said he had the part in his truck. He called AHS to get an authorization because he had to write a separate ticket for that because the $75 only covered the inspection part. I got on the phone and verified that I knew what was going on and that was me. The AHS rep authorized it and the tech wrote a ticket up and replaced the part and left. He was very professional.
I use my gas logs to heat my house when it's this time of the year because in North Carolina, the weather varies a lot in the spring and in the fall. I don’t turn my heat pump on until it's a regular progression of really cold days. We turned it on while the tech was here and it worked fine. But since he left, I haven’t turned it on yet. I've had AHS for years and every now and then, I get annoyed because I'm putting a lot of money into it every month, but when something happens, it cost me whatever the fee de jure and it's taken care of. At one time, over 10 years ago, I had a refrigerator that just quit working. I called AHS and they sent somebody out. The refrigerator was 18 or 20 years old. The tech said, “I'm surprised it lasted this long. It really can't be fixed. There's too much wrong with it. You need a new one.” I had AHS bought it for me. And you can't beat something like that.
I have recommended AHS to a number of people. I live by myself and I'm 74, and I'm like a traditional 1950’s grown-up girl. So, I don't know how to do handyman’s job. I never bothered to learn. Since I moved into this house in 2012, my microwave door handle came loose on the bottom, you could swing it back and forth like a yo-yo. I called AHS and said, “Do you fix things like this?” They said yeah. The guy came out and he said, “I'm gonna order you a brand-new door.” And I said, “It's just a handle.” And he said, “You can't replace just the handle. You have to replace the whole door.” So, I got a whole new door. This house was built in 2002. So, the microwave was 10 years old and I got a brand-new door. So, stuff like that, they don’t argue with the serviceman.

We had back up in both our bathrooms. If we flush the commode, we got water or whatever was going down. They came back up into the shower and the tub. So, I simply went online and made the claim to American Home Shield. Their website was self-explanatory, but finding the claim page was a bit of a challenge. I found it without that much difficulty but it seemed like I had to hunt for the page. But once I found it, filing a claim has been very easy. My particular problem was we had what I would’ve described as a back up. But on their website, it said stoppage. So, I just used the term stoppage. I considered it to be synonymous with blockage. I received a notice that someone had been contacted and that they would be getting in touch with me within a few hours. But the company, Super Plumbers, took another two or three days.
Super Plumbers was very professional. The young man that helped me seemed very knowledgeable. And when he left, it appeared that it had been corrected. Unfortunately, we had to file another claim. In fact, I filed it today for the same thing. We have two tubs and a shower. The tub in the secondary bathroom is having a drainage issue. Basically, aside from the back up, the water was standing in the tub and we had to wait for it to go down, and that is occurring again. It’s not from the toilet, but whether you take a shower or you take a bath, instead of the water going out, it simply doesn’t drain. It takes six or eight hours to drain.
I’ve had experience with American Home Shield in the past. Not only as a customer but I bought them for houses that we’ve sold. And so, when we purchased this house, we picked them amongst the several companies that offered their service because we've had success with them in the past. My overall experience has been very good. If others were looking for a plan to help offset potential issues that they would have at the lowest cost, AHS has performed the way I expected and I would recommend them.

I had three switches in the bathroom - one was a fan, an overhead light, and an exterior light. All three were non-operable. Submitting a claim through American Home Shield was easy. The irritant for me, and I’ve had this before when I had an American Home Shield warranty in a prior state, was that they break the process into multiple pieces. They send a low-tech person you pay $75 that goes, "Yup, you got a problem." And then you have to take off work for a second time to have them then come fix it. That’s irritating.
The guys from All Safe Electric that came were very pleasant, but they were constrained by the bifurcated, multi-step process that American Home Shield has in place. If I had called a general electrician that was not covered by American Home Shield, the electrician would have fixed it the first time, and I would not have had to take off work twice. And that seems to always be their M.O. When I was in Charlotte, North Carolina, we had American Home Shield, and it was the same thing. The contractor came out and said, “Yup, you’re not an idiot home owner. You do have a problem.” And that will send somebody who’s actually qualified. I don’t understand that process. If the first guy is legitimate enough to diagnose, but he’s not legitimate enough to then fix it, then how good is he at determining that you actually have a problem?
If they really wanted customer experience to be the number one, they would do it in one fell swoop. Now, if the guy didn’t have the part, that’s a different issue. But they found it was a basic wiring issue at a switch in the master bedroom. So he just had to take off the switch. They found it, they fixed it, and we’re done. It took them all of 20 minutes to fix it. But it took me taking off work twice and driving, and then having to come in to work late.
I had an attic fan that went bad. And the first time the contractors came out, they’re like, “Yup, it’s dead.” And then they sent a second guy out to fix it. So they had to get authorization from American Home Shield to fix it. Why could not the technician, while they’re in my home, call American Home Shield to have them authorize it real-time, and save me an extra visit. It seems like it would save the contractor travel time twice to the same site visit. That seems incredibly inefficient to me. I’m willing to pay an electrician who can come and get it done once, versus me having to take off work twice. Everything else was great.
Susan,

We had a claim for the dishwasher where AHS sent out David’s Appliance Services. It went great. The claim was resolved and today we received the check for the reimbursement. They told us upfront that we'd get the check in about three weeks and that was how long it took to get it. I would've liked it to be sooner though, considering that I had to put it on my credit card and I already paid my credit card bill since it was the last day before the new statement came out.
Other than that, from the time that we’ve had AHS, they have almost doubled in monthly premium pricing and the warranty covers less than before because we kept getting the changes before we renew annually. That is something to look into. But that’s happening everywhere and everyone is trying to cut money somewhere. All in all, we’ve been pretty satisfied with American Home Shield and we’ve always told people, especially if they're buying a home, to keep the warranty after the fact because you never know when things would break down once your insurance has expired.

With AHS, communication is fantastic. I like the fact that I don't have to call anyone. I can go online and do a service request. But when I needed it escalated, I was able to call and they were able to escalate it up. Recently, my thermostat went out on my furnace and I have an eleven-month-old. They put me with a contractor, but that contractor wasn't able to get out here and I would have to wait until they could schedule an appointment. I called AHS back and said that I needed heat that night.
They found Make It Right Heating and Cooling. A gentleman called me right away and said that he had a couple more jobs, but he would definitely fit me in. He also said that he would get here before 6:00 PM and he was out to my home at about 5:00. It was fantastic. And when I looked online, Make It Right Heating and Cooling closes at 4:30 PM. I really appreciated that he went the extra step and still come out after his hours.
Prior to AHS, I was with another company and they were not meeting my expectations. I received a lot of referrals about AHS, so once my contract was over with the other company, I decided to make the move to AHS. Now that I'm with them, they have surpassed my expectations. When I put in a service request, it normally gets resolved the same day. Not like with the prior company, where sometimes, it would be weeks before I get service. I've told a lot of my friends and family about AHS and the ones who purchased it, love it.

American Home Shield is doing good but sometimes, they send very incompetent people. On the first claim, I had a very bad experience. They sent somebody called Comfort Air Cooling who were very unprofessional people. They were not diagnosing the claim very well. I complained and then after that, almost everything was fine. Also, when it comes to replacing, they give only the cheapest product. They don't replace the same thing as they have. For example, I had to replace the air conditioner and they gave cheaper company. They didn't give the same company product.
Recently Grade A Plumbing came out but they haven't fixed the claim. The faucets are not working and are leaking out, so the tech ordered parts and they are waiting for the parts. I called AHS and they said normally, it can take four to eight business days, but it's already eight days now. Still, AHS has taken care of everything so far. We were told by an inspector that there was an air leak. I submitted a claim over the phone to AHS and the reps who helped me were great. A Plus Comfort Air and Heating, LLC went out to do service. They were very accommodating and were able to come out the same day whenever they got an opening which was nice. The techs came and confirmed the leak was normal. They re-taped everything for peace of mind then said everything was good to go.

With my last home warranty company, we could hardly find anybody to do any work for us. After doing some research and seeing AHS has providers in our area, we went with them. We submitted a claim by phone to AHS for our central air and their reps had me hooked up with a provider really quickly. Atchley Air came and the young fellow that came out and fixed our central air didn't waste any time. He just worked.
Great! We are happy to know that we were quickly able to resolve your claim. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Barbara. Have an amazing week.

When I bought the house, I put the gas fireplace. I put a claim in to American Home Shield for some gas spills and the stuffed up pipe for the gas. When the guy from Service Contractors of Texas came, he found the issue. When I maybe kept turning my fireplace on, it was spilling gas. It was a totally a stuffed up pipe and not meant to be on all the time. So, the guy told me like, "Oh no, that's a stuffed up pipe. Perhaps you didn't have the gas pipe for the fireplace." So, I was very happy with the service. He found out why I was emitting gas, and he gave me some options to either go to a wood fireplace or a gas fireplace. And he also went on the roof and told me about the trim. Submitting claims with American Home Shield is easy. I've used them twice for the heater and the AC and they fixed it. So, they figured all of it and told me what was wrong. 75 for just an inspection is a little bit expensive, but it was a great experience and service.

AHS's service is normally good. It’s just their hold time is long but other than that, they’re always nice. One time, the water pressure in the kitchen was very low and the water would stall before it comes on. I turn the faucet on and nothing comes out for like a minute and then it starts running. The contractor came out and the guy that came said that it was my faucet and I needed a new one. So, he had to order that and then he would have someone come and install it.
Then, the faucet man came in three or four days. He started taking things apart and he said he had to go get another part. He was gone for three and a half hours and then came back and installed it. But my water wasn't getting hot at all when he left. I tried spinning the faucet both ways and I can actually spin it around like it wasn't bolted down in the sink. It wasn't supposed to be like that. And it was one of the faucets where you can use the sprayer and the sprayer was just hanging out.
I called American Home Shield back and I let them know the issue. They said they were gonna send the contractor back out but they never came out. I called American Home Shield again. They put them in and it never came. I called a third time and one of the reps said she wasn't sure why it kept getting canceled. She said she was gonna have someone else come out.
When the guy from Prime came out, I explained everything to him, and he said the reason the sink is spinning is that it’s not bolted down correctly and the sprayer is hanging out and the nozzle doesn’t stick in is because they didn’t include the weight. I told him my water wasn't getting cold and he checked down below. He ended up having to order another faucet because so many parts were missing that they didn’t include or I don’t know if they were in the box this guy took with him. The parts had to come directly to my house and he made sure he told me to not open the box. They have to open it just to make sure and verify all parts are in there. He put the parts in and everything is working fine now.
Prime was very professional. He had let me know what he was doing and I like the fact that when they were coming, they schedule. And then they call before the installer or technician is on the way. I also got a link and I could track where they were and how long like estimated time. They were very informative and I liked their service. I also let American Home Shield know that if I ever had any other plumbing issues, I do not want that first plumbing company that they sent out at my property at all because they didn’t fix anything. They actually screwed up things.

I've been very happy with AHS, especially since I learned to do the online thing. A couple of years ago, I needed something and they held me for an hour. I just kept the phone on and did my work. I'm not computer literate so doing it online was hard but I figured it out and it was easier. I can go on the webpage and when I put in my number and address, it tells me what my coverage is, which I like. Also, I've had several issues in the last two weeks, but so far everything has been okay. I like AHS and I've been satisfied with the work.

I’ve had American Home Shield in the past and I got them again. We've had the current warranty for almost a year now and I access their website on my phone when I have a claim as it gives me a paper trail. I know what my expectations are and I’ve not had a problem with AHS. I had my air conditioning fixed and I’ve had my furnace fixed too. I had no problem with the contractor for the air conditioner, however, there was a misunderstanding with the furnace contractor that pissed me off a little bit and which I made it known.
The furnace contractor came in from the rain and he could have taken his shoes off. We have white carpet and that was a little bit of no-brainer. Then, he put a black, dirty something on the floor for the furnace on our white carpet that I just cleaned. He left a lot of debris on the carpet and my husband cleaned it. He apologized and it was an easy fix, so everything was fine in the end. As far as the service, he came out the first time and didn’t fix what needed to be fixed. He had to come back a second time but everything seems to be running appropriately now.

We just moved into the house back in April and we noticed recently that there was water accumulating in the vegetable drawers of our refrigerator. It looked like there was condensation forming on the back of the refrigerator and there was a drain for that that it looks like in the design, the design anticipates the condensation and provides a way of draining that, and the drain was obstructed. So the person from Optimum Appliance came and had to have a special tool to blow out the drainage host so that it would drain again. I was delighted with the contractor. He communicated with us before he came. He said, "I can see you earlier, is that okay? I'll be there in about 10 minutes." He was here in 10 minutes so he was here when he said he would be here. He was respectful and had shoe covers for the house when he came in. He did the assessment, everything was timely and he left.
American Home Shield's claim process was easy. I called them to submit a claim because sometimes, I like the human contact. And it was easy to do it over the phone. I could have done it online, but my preference was phone. The contracting company called very quickly. We've submitted two claims at once and they both called the same day to try and set up an appointment. So that process was very easy. The contractor said, "No, we don't bill you anything. You'll get billed by American Home Shield." My wife is handling the billing on that so I haven't seen whether or not we've paid anything against that yet. But that was straightforward and I was really pleased.

When I had several plumbing issues, I called the American Home Shield number and asked to speak to a person. If you do it online, you can submit one thing, but if you have more than one issue for the same technician, it has to be on the work order or they won’t do it when they come. Generally, when I call AHS, they send Greenway and it could be days before Greenway could get a plumber out so I specifically asked for someone else. The contractor who came was very knowledgeable and came very promptly. We had some slow-running drains, a toilet that wasn’t working right, and a leak under a sink. He fixed them all.
AHS had sent Greenway to fix our furnace recently. They got someone here quickly and that went well too. But last winter, it took them months to get our furnace fixed and by that time, it was summer. We also had an expensive refrigerator and at one point, AHS sent Greenway. Then Greenway called and said that all their technicians quit and so they couldn't do any appliance repairs. AHS tried a couple of other people who weren’t able to fix it either. Finally, they declared it dead and gave me $3,000 as cash-in-lieu instead, which was big.
We will be canceling our AHS service, which expires on Monday. They have increased our rates quite a bit because they say we have too many claims. But there wouldn’t be so many service calls if they sent somebody who could fix the problem on the first try or had parts on their truck, didn’t have to order them and come back multiple times. The AHS person I talked to wasn't buying it though. We’ve been with them for years, but that didn’t hold any sway with them either. They decided we weren’t worth keeping as customers unless we pay them a whole lot more money.

I was able to talk with a representative, Mariah, who helped find a good and expediant solution to my problems. She was kind and patient in helping me understand the process, and gave me a direct phone number and email so I could deal with the same person instead of needing to continuously re-explain everything to new people every time. She also helped me get the most coverage that I could for my expenses. I give Mariah a 5 star rating. I still give AHS three stars for all the run around they gave me before. But at least they care enough to respond and help those who had bad experiences. Thank you Mariah!

Our water heater stopped working and had leaking pipes on Friday morning. We have an old Apollo heating and cooling system in which the water heater is part of what heats the house. So we are without heat in 30-40 degree weather, and with no running water due to the pipe leaks. Called AHS and they sent out a guy who said it all needed to be replaced. But their company could not do it because they don't work on our weird system. AHS then transferred our work order to someone else, without telling us. I called AHS and then they told me who our contractor was, but when I called them they said they don't work on our system either. So I told AHS and they looked for someone else.
The next contractor they transferred us to also did not work on our system. Sunday morning I called AHS again to find out what the plan was, as they never communicate so I have to constantly call for updates, and asked them if I could please use my own guy because it's now been two days of no heat or running water and they still have no one to help us. That guy said to call back later because it has to be 24 hours since the last contractor work order was cancelled before they could authorize an outside contractor.
So I called later. But all this guy said is that they would email some contractor relations department to find me a contractor, and to call back tomorrow! All I get is constant run around and no one seems to care that we are cold and have no running water!! This is ridiculous! What if it was January and 5 degrees outside?! They are not worth the hassle and frustration to get their coverage, which when we replaced our air conditioning system, didn't even pay for 1/4 of the cost of that! I am definitely not renewing this contract!
Good morning Sarah,
I understand your concerns about the delay in service that has been experienced to have your water heater repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

So at some point around then, I got an email from American Home Shield about a status update of my work order and it said that with the redo of the doorbell fix, I had to call Robert Gibb and Sons. I called them and they said, “No, we don’t have a work order for that yet, so you have to call American Home Shield and have them call us,” which I did. And it all turned out fine. I was confused why I was told by the person I talked to from my American Home Shield, “That’s because you made the request online and you shouldn’t have done that." Originally, the garage door wouldn’t close. It would go almost down, and then it would bump back up again. So the following morning, my husband went and looked at it, and he saw the cable. It looks like it had broke off. We called AHS and they dispatched the Overhead Door people out, which I got a call from. They set up an appointment and came out, and the guy fixed it. It turned out the cable had snapped off the springs. He was really good and fast. And then, we noticed that evening after the tech left that the garage door wasn’t closing all the way down. There was an inch or so gap on the bottom. So I called the Overhead Door company back and they set up an appointment to have the tech come back out. They gave AHS the info and the tech was dispatched to come back out. He spent 15-20 minutes here, fixed it, and it has been working fine.
When I submit claims, I normally call AHS and give them the info over the phone. I usually don’t have my contract number, because it’s a different contract every year and I don’t keep track of it. They'd assign a contract number and they'd tell me, “Okay, we’re gonna go ahead and get somebody out there to see what’s going on.” And it wasn’t usually very long. I'd hear from somebody back in 24-48 hours. We’ve had bad issues with contractors not diagnosing problems the correct way or occasionally, over-selling, trying to get us to buy something that we don’t need.
In 2010, when our heater went out, I called AHS and their contractor did an attempt to fix it. It didn’t work. I called AHS again. So there was another attempt to fix it. But it still didn’t work. Third try, still another attempt. It still didn’t work. And mind you, it was in the 20s here in the high desert. We were having a huge cold spell, and I had a house full of people. My son and grandkids were staying with us. Finally, one guy came out and said that my plenum is cracked. He said that I’ve got to shut the whole system down because it was leaking gas. He called AHS at that point and they said, “You gotta send me that email, and let us know,” which he did. “In the meantime, you need to call the gas company, and have the gas company out.” I called the gas company and they red-tagged the furnace. It took almost two months before we had a new operating furnace system here in the house. They fought me all the way, which was ridiculous.
Our AHS experience is sometimes good, sometimes it’s not. That’s the problem. Here’s the way AHS works, and most of them do work. The idea is to save AHS money. So if they can come out and they can fix rather than replace, even if it’s an old piece of equipment, they’re gonna fix rather than replace, because they don’t wanna spend the money. So when the garbage disposal got jammed, it was unjammed rather than get a replacement on it.
Barabra,
I am glad that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. I apologize that it took two attempts and I understand how that may have negatively impacted your experience. We look forward to providing better service in the future.

Their website is fine. However, when I signed up online for the preseason heating check, the people called me but I did not answer. It went to my voicemail, and they didn’t call me back. So, I ended up calling them back five days later and made an appointment. And then they never showed up for the appointment. So then, I had to call back and reschedule the appointment.
I had another issue with the washing machine service request. I did that online and it was supposed to go through Sears, and I never got a phone call. So I went online to see what was going on and to see what the status was, and it said that the contractor was supposed to call. But I wasn’t getting any phone calls. So I called American Home Shield and told them the issue that I wasn’t receiving any communication. They contacted the contractor and made an appointment while I was online. That was a little bit frustrating. But the contractor was totally great. The warranty is extremely valuable. I’ve saved thousands of dollars in this past year when I bought the house. My favorite thing about it is being able to go online and put in service request through that and be able to check on status. I like it. We had an issue with the ice maker. The contractor replaced several parts and it just never would start making ice. He only works on Thursdays. He is the ice maker guru and he stayed booked weeks in advance and that's been part of the delay. We actually turned in our first service call on July 11th so it's four months last October. It has been a long time, which is not normal for American Home Shield.
Finally last month, the contractor declared it dead and jumped through the hoops to get a replacement. AHS gave us three options. They would either ship us one that they deemed to be or replacement which is the same thing we had, just a newer model, or we could pick one and they would allow so much if we're willing to upgrade, or they would just declare it dead and send us a flat amount which is over two grand, and we could deal with it as we pleased, replace it or go on vacation. We want an ice maker and so it has been ordered. I got an email Monday from a lovely lady that's taking care of it and it should be delivered in the next 7 to 10 working days. Then she called me and she's already got me on the installation list for next week. The people who are gonna install it are also the ones who had been trying to repair it.
My husband is so tired of going to the convenience store and buying ice two or three nights a week. It's a hassle as we don't entertain like we used to. We have an ice maker in the kitchen, but it's an old refrigerator and it does not make enough ice even for our use, let alone if we have people over. It's been getting cranky and we just decided to wait 'til the summer when we won't entertain much to try to get it replaced. Not having an ice maker has been a minor inconvenience but not anything we couldn't deal with. As long as the ice maker could come in before Thanksgiving, I would be a happy camper. If it’s all gonna be taken care of in the next week or 10 days, we’re pleased.
We've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and in those years, they had replaced at least one ice maker in the refrigerator, air conditioner on the upstairs, a hot water heater, a microwave, and a dishwasher. We have nothing but the highest of praise and totally satisfied. I recommend them to anybody buying a house or sell.

Last month, the thermostat of our AC wasn't turning on. It wasn't getting any power. Right Tech Heating and Air, the contractor that AHS sent out, said that there was a fuse that had gone off, that was why it wasn't working. But I felt they took advantage of my wife because she was there by herself and charged her an exuberant amount for a recharging fee to recharge the unit, and it was a lot more than I had anticipated. We contacted them, but they made some excuse that something wasn't working and that all the Freon leaked out. But they never told me what they fixed so the Freon wouldn't leak out again. They just gave me the runaround on that.
I also had issue with the heater. The first technicians that came out said that they only do air conditioning and they don't do heating at all. So, I had to make another appointment and the exact same two technicians that was there the first time came out the second time. But I was there and they said they'd fix it. Why didn't they fix it the first time? And then, a third technician had to come out because there was a part that they didn't have, so they had to order it. And then, the third technician came out and fixed the heater. There was no extra charge for the second and the third visit. I was just peeved that when they were out the first time, they told my wife that they don't do heating and that they only do air conditioning when it was all one unit. They were giving her an excuse. When I got home, she said she ended up paying 600 bucks.
I was there the second and third time because I didn't want something weird to go on or my wife can't feel bad, because she felt bad the first time and she was apologizing to me, and that made me feel bad that she had to apologize to me for having that done. They gave me a receipt and it said $400 something for the labor and another $200 for cleaning. I have a few friends that are air conditioning technicians and I've talked to them. When I told them that the contractor just cleaned the unit outside, they said, "$200 tune-up is way too much." The contractor still haven't told me what they fixed for the $600 that we paid for, and that's when I called back.
I told AHS about it. I told them that I even called them up because I had to call back to have another technician come out for the heating part. They said they'll look into it and I haven't gotten a response at all. I was reading the contract and I understand that we're gonna have to pay $10 per gallon or per pound for the Freon and anything after that, it's our responsibility. But they took advantage just to make money and their receipt didn't say what they did. So far, both the heater and the air conditioner are working. The overall easiness wherein I call, I get text, I get emails, they were really good on that part. The problem is just the price. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.

And so, we got a new dishwasher and it was installed with no problem at all. I also called last week to have somebody come out and check our heater just for maintenance on it and they were very helpful. I had them install a new thermostat, which was done yesterday, and it went great. The contractors were there when they said they would be there, and did the work just fine.
I have been telling my friends how easy it is with Home Shield and that it's nice not having to worry about things. I've been worried about my husband, who has Alzheimer's, and to think about the air conditioning going out scared me to death. But when the dishwasher flooded, my first thought was, "Ah, I got Home Shield now. I don't have to worry about it."

My girlfriend's sister is my realtor and she uses AHS. I got the warranty as well and have had it for a week so far. They called me one night and I had a claim for rekeying. White Knight Locksmith was sent out and it was good. However, I got mad about the billing. They aren't communicating on their billing system. I had to pay them the night when I requested the service, but then I got an email yesterday saying that I need to pay $75. I called them and they fix it by putting in a form that I don't owe anything. I was also on the phone for 10 minutes while they figured out that I paid it. Otherwise, they were great. I barely was on the phone 30 seconds before they answered when I made the appointment. So, the experience has been excellent.

Everything went real good with our HTG claim. The technician from Season Solutions Heating and Cooling got straight to the point, and he fixed whatever it was. He jump-started and I haven't had a problem since. He even asked questions how he was doing, and suggested other items if we wanted it or we needed it, anything else that was happening. They were 24 hours a day, so I was appreciative of how he came up to me.
I called AHS with this claim and they hopped right on it and they sent someone out within 40 minutes. I wasn't satisfied with the day that they scheduled me but when the contractor came out and took care of the situation, I was like, "Whoo, thank you." I will always recommend them if somebody else needed some heating or cooling.
Good afternoon Roland,
We strive to provide you with a great team of contractors and an even better customer service experience. We hope you continue to enjoy your AHS warranty!

We had a problem with the refrigerator. My wife went online and submitted a claim with AHS, then 7-H Home Services came out three days later. They had to order parts and when they came back and did the repair, they were there most of the day. Everything was good and they communicated fairly well with us. The refrigerator has been working perfectly since the repair, too.
Good afternoon Charles,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I thank AHS for being so good. One of my neighbors told me about them. Then I have recommended AHS as well to two people. I'm 79 and this is a new company to me, and I was a nervous wreck but the rep was nice when I called in regarding the pump that wasn’t working. We weren’t getting a circulation of water. I was told to expect the contractors out in 24 to 48 hours. I told them it was not a problem because it was still not winter and I was not worried about it. I'm very happy with the contractors. The guy who came was phenomenal. It rained here in Oklahoma so I wasn’t about to go in thunder and lightning into the spa, but the day I used it, it was fine.

I had Next Gen Air Conditioning out doing routine maintenance. It's a pre check-up thing. When I logged in through AHS, they had it on there, front page. So, I went and did it. The contractor was very informative and said something was out of date and that I have to renew it. I'm happy with AHS. I did a Google search and they were the first one to pop up. My realtor also backed them up. So, I went with them.

I can't really blame American Home Shield but the companies they sent out are crappy. I had a problem with my furnace last year and a guy came out whom I paid my $75. Supposedly, he said he fixed it. And of course, it went out again. And so, then I paid another $75 a few days ago, last week. And the guy came out and supposedly fixed it. It worked about maybe 20 minutes after he left, and it hasn't worked since.
Then, I called AHS on Monday and Mason Mechanical came out. The tech said that he replaced a switch. That switch worked for about 15 minutes after he left and it hasn't come back on since. And so now, they're coming back out again and set up another service between 12:00 and 5:00 today, which to me is a very large window, but it's nothing I could do about that. So, nobody fixed it. They put a Band-Aid on it and that's it. And then it goes out when it's cold like now and I had no heat. Basically, I haven't had heat since the weekend. I'm being a little bit redundant 'cause I'm angry and I'm cold. He says, "Okay, fine." They left a great, big window, that is like to me is, it's just so unacceptable to have a window that big. A couple of hours, I can understand it. From 12:00 to 5:00, wow, that's a lot.
The last AHS representative I talked to, I could not understand what the heck he was saying. His accent was so deep and he kept saying, "Excuse me. What?" Finally, he told me, "All right, if you pay for a service charge and..." I guess it was that I have 30 days. I kinda like picked up bits and pieces of what he was saying to me. I'm not gonna say this exactly what he said, but I think he was saying to me, you have a 30-day window to go back, if you have a problem, and they'll come back out and fix it or whatever, and there's no charge, I think. I'm not for sure. That's all I can think right now. 'Cause I couldn't understand him. I don't really know exactly what he was saying to me.
Overall, AHS was there. It's not like, "Hey, listen, we can't help you." I called on the weekend and nobody can do anything but it's not their fault. So, I just left the house and went to stay with a friend. It wasn't a big of a deal. Still, I realized that commercial that comes on TV where the woman says, "Hey, I called American Home Shield and they came right over." I'm like, "Really? Okay." That doesn't work. I'm sure people are thinking, "Listen, it's a service for 24 hours a day or whatever, but it's not like that." You can call 24 hours a day but you're not going to get a service. Nobody's gonna come out here 24 hours a day. That's not gonna happen. Still, AHS did what they were supposed to do and contacted a company and they came out when they could.
Good afternoon Mary,
Your feedback to American Home Shield is more than appreciated. I am glad the review brings our attention to the furnace repair. I would be glad to speak with you and assist to reach a resolution.

One of our outlets our outlet was flickering and it would just shut off. I submitted a claim to AHS who then sent Kingdom Electric. Thus far, submitting claims to AHS has been really easy though the time it gets to get approval for something is a bit long. I can do it online or call them and they’re always on the ball with it. For any questions I’ve had, their reps either had the answers or they got back to me pretty quickly with the answers. As for the contractors they send, two of the three that I’ve had contact with had been awesome.
However, there was one contractor that I requested from American Home Shield not to send back out to my house. That contractor came, set an appointment but then was six to eight hours late. Plus, they were not even calling us to tell us that they were gonna be later. When they showed up, they did shoddy work and used an old valve to try to fix our air conditioning. And then, when I asked them why they didn’t call or whatnot, the tech threatened me in my own house. So, I showed him out.
We happy to hear that the warranty is beneficial to you Christopher. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing week.

The microwave was acting up. If you open the door, the fan would kick on and we were worried that it was radiating. I’ve seen it happen once or twice before where I’ll open it and it looked like it was still going. I would close it and open it again, and it was fine, but once it stopped working again, I called American Home Shield to file a claim. When I did it, I had the wrong number. The rep tried to give me a phone number to connect directly to schedule something and that line didn't work well. I was able to do the claim online and the site was reasonable easy to navigate through but I couldn’t find the paperwork myself to have the data they wanted.
The contractor popped up the front cover, pulled up the circuit board, did a few probes and popped in a new micro switch that he already had with him. Then, it behaved itself. He did it for less than an hour. I joked with him about how much it would’ve cost. We probably saved a little bit of money on the service call versus how much it would’ve cost to call blind, but we didn't know that. I specifically asked and it was $65 just to show up and look at it. He wasn’t there that long, so it probably wouldn’t have been more than 150. Also, he wasn't gonna work out a full detailed billing on that. It was just based on the time, he had a gut feeling.
We’ve had AHS since June and this is the third time we’ve had to call them. The first two were relatively soon after we moved in. We kind of looked around and waited to see what else we had wrong. One of them was for the toilets, which are low flow, so they clog. The contractor looked at it and it would require replacing the toilets. They function and do what they're supposed to do, but they have a limited amount of water, so there’s only so much pressure. We were having problems with the way they work and we have to replace them, which was not covered by AHS because they are technically functioning. There are four bathrooms and at 200 bucks for a toilet plus installation, we started adding up. You don’t drop 1000 bucks, and that’s something you budget and work out. You don’t control that casually.
