I had three appliances that needed work, my refrigerator, dishwasher and washer. My refrigerator and my dishwasher were both leaking water, and my dryer drawer wouldn't close. The tech from Appliance Wizard was great. He was very professional and he got the job done quickly. Everything was fixed and it was fine. The only problem I have with them sometimes is that the appointments are a bit far out. That happens occasionally, but when it does, I call my rep from American Home Shield and he usually figures it out for me.
Good Morning Carrie,
Thank you for providing us with feedback regarding your most recent American Home Shield experience. It is our goal to provide our customers with a great experience and team of contractors to complete the repairs. We hope you continue to enjoy!

Holiday Business Group came out recently for my washer and dryer when the heat in it messed up and a wire caught fire. That part got fixed, but they couldn't fix the washing machine. It’s still rocking like it’s broke, and I don’t know what’s wrong with it. I started to call American Home Shield, but I didn’t want to have to pay them $80 twice ‘cause I already paid them before. But the tech was a cool guy and he did the best that he could. He was very knowledgeable and he knew what he was doing.
Archie,
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

The water in the showers wasn't warm enough. They sent out somebody from Tom Melton Services after the weekend --by Monday-- and the person fixed it quickly and efficiently. So, I was very happy with them. We've had American Home Shield on this house since the end of the March and we've had them as well in the past when we owned a home, and it was always good.

The turntable on the microwave was not turning. The tech from NEC Technology Repairs put in a new motor, and now it’s working fine. The tech was very nice. He had to order the motor. So, he had to come back in five days once the part came in. The refrigerator was not working as well. It had a wall of ice inside of it. And they were gonna order some parts for it, but the refrigerator’s too old, they didn’t make the parts anymore. So, they just replaced the refrigerator with a new one, and it’s working fine. AHS was very nice.

The element inside the stove was gone and it wouldn't heat up. I changed the element myself, but it wasn’t the problem. Suffolk Appliance Parts came in and fixed it. The stove is great. The process of making a claim with Home Shield is really easy. But when I made a claim for an issue with my air conditioner, they took so long, and I ended up just paying out of pocket because nobody wanna be in a scorching house. But since then, they gotten a little better. They really try, and it’s not their fault sometimes when somebody doesn’t call. But they’ve been pretty thorough. The contractors they’ve sent out are definitely licensed and some of them are more professional than others.

AHS has always been timely. There was no reach right back out to them to get somebody moving in this direction. When the AC kept getting warmer, I submitted the claim on the computer and got a quick response. The contractor came out and worked on it to cool off for a little while and then the temperature was back up and it was just blowing out hot air. We had to have them come back out again. The tech pretty much knew what the problem was and corrected it. Overall, I'm satisfied with the work they did.

To get my refrigerator and my microwave taken care of, I called American Home Shield. I spoke to a representative and got taken care of. It didn't long for them to send someone out. They were very proficient and professional. I liked that I saw a picture of who was gonna be here and that I could track them to my home so I knew when they were arriving. However, the contractor had to order the parts and had to be back multiple times because what he thought was wrong with my microwave wasn't. He couldn't figure it out. Then he said that it was gonna have to be taken to the shop. He would've taken it that weekend but I told him I didn't want a vacant hole there because I had company coming in town. In the end, he took it to the shop and called when it was ready. All in all, the repair took about three weeks and everything has been working perfectly now.
Thanks for taking the time to share your warranty experience Gail. Although you experienced delays, I'm happy that the issue was ultimately resolved. Have an amazing week.

We had a total house system backup on the right side of our home, which affected our master bathroom and our half-bath, toilet, and sink. Everything was all stopped up. The contractor from Steven A Mills had to come back the very next day -- it was not quick fix. He was, however, very prompt and I was satisfied with the timeframe. On the first visit, he was able to come into the house and saw everything that was needed. On the second visit, he was able to do everything he needed from the outside. So, he resolved the issue in two days. Since he came early in the day on his first visit, it would have been great if he could have got what he needed and came back the same day. But other than that, they seem to have done the best they could, so it was satisfactory.
We had American Home Shield when we lived in Virginia, and we've had it at every house we've had. So we had it for 20 years or more. In Virginia, the issue was wait time. When you called, it took forever for someone to answer the phone. And then, they got the online thing, which was better, but still the wait time was an issue. And now, because we are in Myrtle Beach, it depends upon what we need. It may take two weeks before somebody can come out. So, that is not a good thing.
You pay upfront the $75 fee and sometimes that works out and your issue is resolved in a timely way, but sometimes it has been known to drag on to the point that we had a refrigerator when we first moved here which went out. We never got the refrigerator that we were supposed to get that the owners had bought before we moved here. So it still had warranty, but we never were able to get that resolved. We ended up having to take a walk on that, even though they said they were going to fix it. Lastly, we also had a mold issue last year. Our adjuster came out and talked to American Home Shield. When we were told that the $28 would pay and we had to pay just our deductible with our house insurance, it turned out that we couldn't get anything either. So, that particular mold wasn't covered. It was a bad situation and we never got that resolved, too.

The tub faucet had a really bad leak and I couldn’t fix it and nobody I knew could fix it. So I called AHS and it was a flawless encounter with the rep. She was very helpful. I told I had had one plumber kinda look at it and he didn’t think that it could be fixed and how bad it was. Altstadt Plumbing came out and the tech replaced the faucet, but he had to make two trips to the local hardware store to get all the stuff that was needed because it was such a difficult thing.
He had to tear up the handle to get it off, which was fine. He went back to Aigner and bought the handle. It was kind of a generic handle that he put back on, but that was fine with me. He did not have to replace the whole faucet to where it all looked like the same thing again. I just wanted the leak stopped, so I did not care. And besides, it saved money that way. I liked him. I've hired that same plumbing company to do a job at my house for the same issue. I was very unhappy with the guy they sent out there and it ended up costing me $485 to have a very simple thing done. But this guy seemed to be much more knowledgeable and he seemed to be a better plumber.

I had two work orders with American Home Shield, and the one for the water heater repair was excellent. However, I am not happy with my kitchen faucet replacement. I am a very new American Home Shield patron, so I had no knowledge about the replacement or the buyout process. When the kitchen faucet was leaking, the company said I needed a new faucet, so they went online and found a replacement. After it was replaced, I found out it was only builder’s substandard grade. It was faulty and it leaked. So, I had to spend Friday to Sunday waiting for them to come back out and fix it.
In the meantime, I talked to American Home Shield, and they guaranteed that my claim was in the process of buyout because the piece did not fit. But it was one thing on Friday and then another thing today, as I found out that it wasn’t the case. Basically, all of that came out of pocket. And now, I had to fight so they won't charge me another service fee. I’m very unhappy that they did not explain to a new customer what it meant to replace. They need to explain what the process is, and what's fixing versus replacement. I called on Friday to see what the buyout procedure would be, but I got nothing. They did not explain that it's like, “We’ll send the plumber. They’ll do the work. We’ll give you this much on a faucet, but the rest is up to you.” I was not consulted on what I would want in my kitchen faucet, and the one I got was a grade below what I already had.
And because the work was done, faulty it may be, they considered the case closed. It makes me wanna think about American Home Shield is not the only home company out there. I just completed my first full year of being a customer, and now I know if I ever need a replacement, I’m gonna have to get something in writing from American Home Shield. When I called them, no one in authority will speak to me. All I can talk to is the representative who has a foreign tone, and it’s hard to understand them. I also called and left a message on the contractor that I have. She gave me a number of their point-of-contact person. I called and left a message, but got nothing. I know it’s out of date, but it would be nice to be able to speak with someone if you’re having a problem. Earlier in the week, I had to dial the numbers, like, if it’s this, press 1, if it’s this, press 2, but they don’t give you the option to speak to directly to a representative.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

Five years ago they replaced a hot water heater for me for the service call fee. They sent out 2 plumbers quoting $960 and $1,400+ to replace another the hot water heater. AHS won't provide documentation of code, what is required to fix my water heater, why they authorized both quotes. WHY - they don't care. Their OPT-OUT offers were $500 for the lower quote and $289 for the higher quote in the same week. WHY - they aren't a service provider, they are a broker.

I purchased my home 8 months ago. I've used AHS 4 times. Most recently I came home to find the floor wet in a small area. Because it wasn't near the refrigerator or A/C, I thought it was a plumbing issue so I requested service from a plumber. The next day AHS plumber finally made it by. He spent less than 10 minutes in my home and told me I didn't have a plumbing problem but A/C and ok to turn water main back on. I then placed service request for A/C. He showed up the next day (more time off work). The A/C repairman never opened up or inspected my inside unit, but went outside and vacuumed the A/C drain line and tried to sell me a new unit. Meanwhile I came inside to find more water leaking in my house. He had no explanation and left.
Absolutely worthless!

I have plumbing issues that I have had 2 companies that Home Shield called that diagnosed this plumbing issue incorrectly. I have had a 3rd contractor out that diagnosed it. Because it's not their service contractor that is saying what is truly wrong, they state that it isn't covered. I read my contract and it is. I keep asking for a manager and they put me on hold for 20 min and the same person comes back saying she is someone else. Someone HELP.

Our 15 year old system leaked r22 coolant over a 30 day period and the compressor failed. AHS agreed to replace the compressor and informed us that we would be responsible for the coolant replacement. No serious investigation into the leak and no responsibility for r22 coolant problem which will not be produced after january 2020. This contractor level system was shot. Ahs agreed to the minimum possible cost of replacing the compressor with the cheapest possible solutions for them. The coolant will be close to $1,000 if able to be found after the new year.
I ended up replacing the system at my cost with only $390 from ahs despite efforts from me and the technician. This insurance for a/c systems is not worth it. The maximum coverage is $1500 for systems that cost many thousands and they look for the cheapest way to get things running at least temporarily. I do not recommend ahs. Better to put the premiums in your bank account and prepare to do the repair or replacement with a good technical provider.
I hate to hear that that we have not provided expected service Richard. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to assist with a resolution. I look forward to speaking with you.

Called many times to service items in my home. All items were a once per year item. Plumbing, fan, electrical, stove, water leak. My service request was denied for each item. Contractor shows up, does an analysis and then leaves without notifying me what the problem is and does not begin or finish the repairs on the service day. I then have to call up their support line, which is located in the Philippines. The support people give the same spew off a cheat sheet paper. Every time I ask for a supervisor they continue to read off the cheat sheet and not refer me to a supervisor. They have no management in house that you can complain to. All management is in the United States and they cannot forward complaint calls. They say you have to write to their main office with a complaint.
Last service was an emergency water leak. Service technician came over the same day, analyzed the problem, said to turn off water to stop leak, left and never came back. Called AHS for work status, they said they had not received the writeup on the problem and had to wait for service tech report. That took them 4 days to get, I called the second, third and fourth day, service reps still could not get their story straight, first they had to wait for report, next was report was being reviewed by AHS, then it went back so they needed to wait for service report again.
I was told that a supervisor would contact me, that never happened. I finally get a phone call on the 4 day saying that my claim was denied because it was not normal wear and tear. Technician wanted to charge me 250.00 dollars to do repairs. Very mad. I could have called out a plumber the same day and had the repair fixed that day. I have been a customer for 8 years paying 575.00 a year for them to tell me each time that the item is not covered under their warranty and it would be an additional cost that the service technician bumps up so they can make extra money on a service call. Big Scam. Do not buy this warranty service.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have had several issue with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

I got the introductory rate where I think I 660. And then, the following year, to renew, it was 960. That was a little high. I called them up and they discounted down some. Their service was good, but I felt it was overpricing, but then, they’ve been doing that for a long time. I did call another company to verify, and they were probably within $50 of each other. So, it was fairly normal.
It’s been pretty easy to submit a claim. I had them up when I was up in Bishop, and they came out. I had a water heater go bad, and that was fixed in the same day. And down here, it was the same thing. I also had called in American Home Shield on my water heater, but it turned out it was the overflow leaking, so they just said they couldn't do anything. But if I called them up, they called me back the next day, and they came out and took care of it. They said they'd be right there within da day. In fact, both of them came the same day, about an hour apart. We had a bad computer motherboard too and the contractor had everything with him on his truck. He took care of the problem right then and there. It only took about 15 minutes once we changed the part out, and then he had everything all set and working again.

The process of submitting claims with Home Shield is okay. The problem that I run into is the $75 every time I call. Also, the guy that came out for a plumbing situation before did not solve the problem. I don’t think that it was tested. He thought it was good enough but it’s a residual thing. It started again and I didn’t realize until after about a week later. Most recently, we filed a claim for the electrical fan in the bathroom that went out and stopped working, Home Shield sent out Wester Electrical and the guy who came was professional. I had a hot tub that was covered and in the past year, we got rid of it. I called to say, “I don’t need the pay you a fee anymore for a hot tub that doesn’t exist.” And the rep said, “No, you can’t change it until renewal time.” I can understand that, but I don’t know why we can’t adjust things in stride. I know this isn’t exactly insurance, but every other form of insurance can make adjustments immediately. Still, I really like the concept of home warranties, and I like American Home Shield. We had a garage door claim more than a year ago, and though there were some interesting philosophical discussions about what constituted a garage door opener and what didn’t regarding pieces and parts, that was also fixed quickly and on time. It certainly met my approval with regard to price. I only had to pay $100 for the service call. The service call price might be a little high, but I like the cost of the overall warranty.
Recently a guy from Custom Climate Professionals showed up on time, and he took a look at the HVAC system and realized that he didn’t have experience in that system. He called the supervisor and the supervisor came on out. We had a snow storm come through around then and it shut down schools and things like that. So, the supervisor and the owner of the place came out on a snow day, and he turned out to be the expert on it, and he diagnosed it as the igniter. Somebody previous to me had decided they were experts in HVAC, and they tried to install a different igniter, and it was the wrong one. It worked for a while, but then it didn’t work.
The expert said it needed to be replaced, and he was gonna go check to see if they had the part and when they could get it out. He went back out to the truck, talked to the owner and said, “We’re just gonna go drive over to our house, pick it up and come right on back.” They did, and that igniter fixed the problem. In that one day, they came out three times on a snow day to make sure that my family’s heater was working. So, I’m very happy with them.

American Home Shield is quick to set up appointments when there is an issue. We've been with them for five and a half years. One time we had a water heater situation and the plumber mentioned that it took a long time to get in touch with American Home Shield to just tell them what the diagnosis was. Other than that, I've never had a problem with any of the service professionals that AHS has referred for service. They were very professional and knowledgeable. If there was a problem with something, I would ask them what type of problem it was, about how long it would take to fix, if they needed to have a part ordered and about how long that would be. We even had them come and do a pre-winter inspection of our furnace just to make sure everything was running okay before it got really cold, and that was nice.

American Home Shield is easier to work with than the other company I was with. We had an AC go out and it took the other company four weeks to get us a new AC during Texas August, so we switched over back in August. Recently, I filed a claim when the person who originally installed our heating messed the electrical up, then I was contacted and AHS gave me the number of the guys so I could call them. They were out there within 30 minutes, and the issue was fixed within an hour. The reps were professional and courteous and they got the job done within a reasonable amount of time. I also like the fact that when you pay your co-pay, you pay it through them. You could just pay over the phone and you don’t have to pay the person coming in.

We have two furnaces and the downstairs furnace wasn't kicking on. It turns out that when the air conditioning was fixed in June, where we had a new compressor put in, a wire was disconnected. That was another American Home Shield service call through a different contractor. The tech who came out for the furnace was very good and he was able to figure it out immediately. He plugged it in and everything was fine. However, American Home Shield's reimbursement rates to the contractors aren't as high as what they can get. So, the contractors don't always give the same priority that American Home Shield claims that they do compared to people who call contractors directly. I don't know if that was the case in this instance, but a tech who came out for a claim had told me about the issue.
Good Morning William,

American Home Shield's contractors have been good. There were two different groups that came out, one that did the replacement for the sewer ejector pump, and the other one that came to see why it’s leaking. They seemed to know what they're doing and they're very informative. They went through a bunch of checks and showed me what they're doing and how they're checking.
However, no one could give me an answer on why it constantly goes when no one’s down there. They were telling me that they don’t see any sort of leak which would cause that, either in the well base or in the piping, so I’m at a loss right now. They're saying it’s the check valves that keep the water from flowing backwards. It just keeps turning on every 15 to 30 minutes. It will eject. And again, there’s no one down there. It’s really just me and my wife and my daughter who live in the house. My wife has a son, but he’s very rarely here. If he is, he’s really in his room sleeping.
I’m having a new sewage put in, a septic system, and I’m going from a Puraflo to an E-Z Treat, and that’s outside of American Home Shield. They don’t cover the well and septic systems. They're telling me that the sewage is not backing up and draining down that pipe because the check valve’s working. So, I’m at a loss. The only thing they check for is to see if there’s any leak in toilets and the faucets. And that’s stuff I had already checked on.

I’m a repeat and happy customer of AHS. I was having issues with my electrical where the switches I knew were live, but they weren’t turning on anything. I went online and it was easy to navigate their website. It told me that I should hear back within 48 hours. The electrician was very friendly. He answered my questions quickly. Sometimes, service providers can talk down to you as a female whenever you’re dealing with home repairs, and I didn’t feel that way at all. He was really helpful and to the point, and it didn’t feel like it was condescending. I really liked him.

The issue had to do with my central vac. Sometimes, trying to get to the operator can be difficult and a little bit frustrating. But I know Home Shield has a lot of customers and it just takes some time. I left it up to Heath Electric to check on what they were trying to fix, I paid in advance, and that was about it. Two of them came. They’re on the Eastern Shore. They had to come across a bridge and pay a big toll to get here. And the tech said, “Well, can I come today?” I said, “Great, come on today.” And so, they came and did a nice job. They were really good. I haven’t used the vacuum cleaner since they came because it’s just me and my wife. But I have a feeling that the issue was resolved. We don’t make a mess so I haven’t retested it, but I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be okay.
I plan to renew with Home Shield next year. Dominion Virginia Power has a similar program and they cover similar things for a better price. But I might start to do ala carte, pick and choose. But I’m not sure that I will and I don’t think my wife wants to because we are okay with the service that we’re getting. And actually, Home Shield has always taken good care of us. When they replace something, they try to select the most economical replacement, because I got a garage door replaced recently and it wasn’t the best. But if it goes wrong, I’ll just call them again and they can replace it again. But they’re all right with me. I like what they’re doing.

The toilet would flush and fill up, and then it would start flushing again. I submitted the claim online, and then I had to call the representative because we had reported a plumbing issue at one point and then it ended up being a sewer line that they had to fix. The AHS reps I dealt with were helpful and pleasant. The contractor that they called came out in two days. It was the same guy who had come out to look at the three toilets that would not flush. At which point, we determined it was the sewer line. We did not, however, have them fix it because it was $8,000 and they did not get it done for much less than that. So, they never really closed that out. Still, the guy was good and he put a new gasket in it. But, I'm not happy with it because the flushing is loud.

I submit my claims over the phone and the process is easy. I’ve had very good success with the contractors. American Home Shield has better contractors than I had with the other company before. The last contractor that came fixed the pipe, but it didn’t work. Another tech came, and not only did he fix the pipe, but he determined that there was asbestos behind the wall. He showed me how to file the claim and called Floodmasters to come and dry it out. He was quite thorough, and I appreciate it. American Home Shield's response time was good, and the technicians have been very good. I’m very satisfied.

I understand there's an internet way to do it, but I'd prefer to do it through their online phone system. The first time, I misunderstood that the time frame was 24 hours for a call and 24 hours additional for them to come out. I made a request for service on a Friday and somebody called me on Saturday. But then, somebody informed me that it was business hours. Paco Heating & Air came out and I wasn't really impressed with them at first. Later on, I thought these guys really knew what they were talking about. They were awesome. Everything is great now. It was an efficient and timely experience, and I'm ecstatic with the results.

I joined American Home Shield because of their coverage which was better than other companies. JT services, the contractor who came was very responsive to my needs. They came out and did an initial check on my furnace, a winter check, and then, suggested that I look into a quotation for another furnace because mine is so terrible old. And truly, the week that I was looking at their quote, ‘cause they gave me a quotation for some equipment, came back and even measured more thoroughly, my furnace broke down. So, I had to take this quotation. But we had some issues with the equipment needing another part, so it couldn't go in the day that they picked up the equipment. So, there was some confusion. Plus it took a long time and I was without heat.
I think that I would like to have seen them process my order on a weekend. This happened on a weekend, and I accepted the offer and wanted the equipment ordered immediately and wanted to pay for it immediately, but they would not allow me to do that. I’m sure it was because specific departments being not manned on the weekends. So, I couldn’t pay for my order. I couldn't do it on the day that I wanted to do it, and it landed on a weekend. I’m sure it happens not just to me. I’m sure furnaces don’t wait to break down on a weekday. So they could have the 24/7 service for that kinda thing. But even though we had these issues with the equipment itself, they got back to me right away. They didn't try to tell me things that were not true. They didn't make excuses up. I appreciated their straightforwardness. I’m having a good experience with the furnace and the installation right now. They did a great job.

On 11/4 I submitted a service request with AHS for my gas furnace and Rainier Heating and Air was assigned as our contractor. They came to check our furnace and said we had a cracked heat exchanger, that there was corrosion and build up in the furnace and it needed to be replaced. They told us the unit was leaking carbon monoxide and advised we shut it off immediately until it can be replaced.
On 11/1, our carbon monoxide alarm went off and the fire department came and said it may be because of the furnace. The day after Rainier Heating came out, I called AHS to follow up. The representative I spoke with called and spoke with Sabrina ** at Rainier Heating. She informed them that the owner of the company had passed away and they would no longer be able to perform our service.
AHS sent a second contractor, Parragon, on 11/8 to check our furnace. That contractor said there was nothing wrong and the unit was safe. At that point it had been turned off for several days. I immediately called Sabrina at Rainier to confirm the notes from their Rep's visit. She confirmed cracked heat exchanger, leaking carbon monoxide, corrosion, build up, and advice to turn the unit off. I called and spoke with Sequoia at AHS that same afternoon. She put me on hold and when she came back on she said she had called and spoke with Sabrina at Rainier Heating and Sabrina communicated the notes from their rep's visit. Sequoia said we needed to wait 24-48 hours for Parragon to submit their report, and if the reports didn't match they would send a 3rd contractor for the final determination.
I called AHS on Monday, 11/11 and spoke with Mark. He said he would reach out to both contractors and go from there. He said he would call me back on Tuesday, 11/12 to make sure there was resolution. He never called. Tuesday I called back and spoke with an AHS representative who said Sequoia never spoke with Rainier Heating and the only report they have of the unit being unsafe is from us. This means either Sequoia was lying to me, or AHS is covering up information to avoid delivering on our contract.
I called back 11/13 in the morning and asked to speak with a manager. The rep I spoke with said all managers were in a meeting and unavailable. She said they could send a 3rd contractor out, but I might be charged another $100 service fee for it. Her second offered resolution was to send a Sr. Technician from Parragon. Both solutions are unacceptable - this company has sent two contractors they trust to our home, and both have provided conflicting responses. Either Rainier Heating was lying to us to for the sake of a sale, or Parragon is telling us there is nothing wrong because they don't want to install a new furnace at negotiated rates during their busy season.
At this point we have been without a furnace for over a week. I called back in the evening of 11/13 and spoke with Del. I again asked to speak with a manager. He again put me on hold and came back to tell me they're in meetings and can't speak with me. He said he was sending an email to his manager and their authorizations team and someone would respond to me today, 11/14. I let them know if I had not heard from them by this afternoon I would be filing a complaint with the BBB. We trusted AHS to protect us in our home, but instead we have felt unsafe, scared, angry, and used.
Alexa,

I was very excited to get AHS coverage for my new home I bought, until I made my first claim. I opened the claim on Sept 7th and still to this day it is not complete. I paid the $125 to have a contractor come look at my dishwasher & washer. One came and said my dishwasher needed replaced but could fix my washer. AHS said they needed a second opinion on the replacing of the dishwasher, so they sent out Sears which was a no show THREE times.
Finally I convinced them to honor the first contractor's recommendation. First they tried to low ball me on replacement value. I had to find my own comparable dishwasher to get equal value in the buyout. Now my washer isn't working again, but oddly enough they said my washing machine work order was miraculously canceled and I have to pay the $125 AGAIN!!! I will be canceling my coverage and WILL not recommend AHS to any of my clients that I represent as a broker. Only one person out of the eight or ten I've talked to was nice. This company is literally the least American place I have ever had the unfortunate experience with. AMERICAN Home Shield, yet you NEVER talk to an American or anyone who speaks ENGLISH correctly. I figured out my heat wasn't working so I called my handy dandy insurance American home shield. They got someone out to my house the next day, but what they found was amazing! Apparently I am a liar. My house has never had heat and it hasn't for years!! How amazing when I moved into this house in December the middle of winter and I was toasty warm.
ANYWAYS they work with this company Guaranteed Services. They took apart my furnace and left parts everywhere making it impossible to diagnose. I had to go through HOURS on the phone talking to people who can't speak English after I was told I had "pre-existing conditions" so they won't cover my furnace. I fought for a second opinion and they determined there were no "pre-existing conditions' so Guaranteed services came out again to look at it and concluded I need a new unit.
OK so a week goes by.. nothing. I call American home shield and I talk to a lady for about 15 min when she tells me my service request had been denied AGAIN. I cannot believe my ears and all while she was explaining to me why it's denied she HUNG UP ON ME. I waited for her to call back just in case it was an accident, no callback. So I called again and talked to a very helpful lady who tells me it isn't denied and she found someone to come out the next day. I am just LOST how can one person tell me it's denied and the next put it through what system do these people have?? I was about to have to go out of pocket to fix my furnace because some Indian person decided it was denied??? I am outraged. This company is full of liars that just cheat people out of their money.

I received a call today from American Home Shield telling me I was not covered because the guys put in my report that it was a pre-existing condition and I should have been able to see that something was wrong with it. They came out, fixed the problem, and we were very happy with the service.

He did some things with the thermostat, took it off the wall, put it back on there, and somehow reset it, and that took care of the problem. It was an easy fix. So, that was wonderful. Everything is working great. I've had American Home Shield now for 21 years, and it's been great. Their reps have been really good. When we've had repairs, I just call up, they send somebody, and it gets taken care of promptly. I don’t have to be looking around for someone. Usually, people who’ve come seemed very qualified.

When I submitted my claim online, American Home Shield responded promptly. My oven was not working and the contractor who came was professional. However, it hasn't been repaired yet. It's an old oven and the parts are not being made. AHS is trying to save money and would not replace it. They are looking around for a new product or getting the part manufactured and it has been taking quite a few weeks. The oven hasn't been working for well over three weeks. But my understanding is it's going to be repaired eventually. I got a phone call from the service company that they will finally come and replace the part. I called and asked that they are ready and they are ready to come and get it done.

Peters’ Drilling is amazing. They always call within 15 minutes of putting the call in with Home Shield. But the previous interaction we had with a plumbing company was terrible. They were so rude and obnoxious that I wanted to cancel, but the claim was already paid to them so I couldn't. I will never use that plumbing company again. I filed a claim to American Home Shield for a pool pump issue. They immediately assigned my claim and the contractor called me the next day. My experience was good. There were two different issues. There was the auxiliary pump that was leaking and the main pump that was leaking. The original contractor took care of the auxiliary pump. But because of the issue with the other pump, it appeared to be something from the previous contractor, so that contractor didn’t wanna touch the main pump. And so, AHS did a recall for a “second opinion” for the main pump, and that was the contractor that had fixed it previously, and they found the issue and resolved it after a couple of visits. It wasn’t perfect, but I’ve worked with that contractor in the past and they did a great job, and they were very professional.
But I was out there Saturday of last week and it still looked like it was leaking. AHS recalled them again, and they came this week while I was out of town. The contractor said, “It’s dry. What’s going on?” I told him that it wasn’t dry when I was there on Saturday. They fixed it when it was raining, so I really couldn’t tell. I’m hoping that it has been taken care of. I haven’t looked at it since they were out there earlier this week, but I’ll be out there tomorrow. We've been with AHS for four years. We were dissatisfied at the start because they had some issues just with them trying to get out of stuff that they’re supposed to cover. But over time, they changed policies and they got better. So, if I had to recommend anything, I’d recommend them. And today, I just renewed with them.

At the time we bought a house, the seller was including a certain amount for buying a home warranty product. The premium that American Home Shield had was close to what the sellers were willing to put in and for the price point, they seemed to be the best. I like their online claims process. They actually implemented a new feature that allows to select who the service provider is which is fantastic. That way, I can do a little bit of research.
The first time, we had a problem with our air conditioning unit and I was not terribly happy with the person they brought out. The folks just came in and didn't take their shoes off, kept their car idling in our driveway, dripping oil, and things like that. This next time around, I was able to not select them, which was great. I liked this contractor's timeliness, getting to the house quickly, and professionalism. He didn't make a mess. The last issue was the HVAC and it couldn't get fixed 'cause the guy couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. It's probably a problem with how my HVAC system is built. But the guy was nice.
The replacement and/or discount option seems sort of opaque. We needed a dishwasher and it was not broken per se. We couldn't really use them. There's some discount program that American Home Shield has but it's quite difficult to figure out how it works when we get the call. I just wish there was a way that they'd be able to upgrade the thing rather than waiting for it to break. Also, keep on with the ability to choose a service provider.

We also noticed our laundry room, where the water heater is located, had a leak. It took three weeks to get the water heater in. It had been delivered two weeks prior and had just been sitting in the contractor’s storage room, which was a little frustrating. I practically begged for them to come out to install it and I even told them I would help them out if that was what it took. I called American Home Shield and the rep was forthcoming. She was honest and she said sorry and that it was totally on her. But they got it out right away. They reached out to the contractor and the technician got out here four days later although they wanted to take another week. AHS should check up on their vendors a bit more but AHS has been great.

There was leaking from the stoppage from the bathtub, and then there was leaking from a pipe. I went on Home Shield's website and submitted a claim. Navigating through the website wasn’t hard. It was just that I didn’t know how to click what exactly was going on because I didn’t know. So, they called it stoppage. I called that the toilet was being clogged. They took it as a drain pipe. It’s weird.
They sent Drain & Plumbing Services, but they didn’t do any work. There was an emergency because the pipe had burst. Something was coming out of the pipe downstairs. It smelled like poop. I couldn’t even stay there for a week. So, when I called Drain & Plumbing back, they said that they couldn’t come and for me to call another company, and so there was somebody else. But they wouldn’t have time until the Friday after. And this was like an emergency.
I had a difficult time understanding, and I had to go through five people with Home Shield because they didn’t really speak English. It was really difficult trying to explain what was going on in my situation, and they kept trying to charge me again and again. And I’m like, “No, this is part of the original service.” So, then, they cancelled the first contractor, and then they went to a second contractor. The situation is finished, but then they tried charging me $1,400, and they made cuts in my walls that are still there. So, my house looks like a halfway house. Nobody called me from Home Shield. My experience was hard. It should have been an easy process, and I couldn’t understand what happened with the customer service. At one point, I was on hold with a manager for an hour, and I never got through to them.

I decided to get some information on home warranties so I started checking them out online. Then I started calling them to talk. My first call was to AHS, American Home Shield. I talked to a man with a Texas accent who was a very high pressure salesman. He kept telling me I needed to sign up now and I could cancel within the first month and not be charged. Having heard these sales pitches before I told him no, I would be shopping around. I had to tell him that at least 5 times. Very frustrating. After calling a couple of others I finally decided it wasn't a good investment and decided not to get a home warranty. After about a month I noticed a charge to my account from them so I called my bank and was told I needed to close the account and open another in its place. So I went in and was told by the bank they had charged me the month prior to the month I noticed. I reported it to my bank as fraud so they couldn't access my accounts again.
I started calling AHS customer service and always got "outsourced" Even during the week it their customer service was outsourced. Bit language barrier. Each time I told them I had not signed up with them. Each time I was on hold for 15 to 30 minutes before I hung up. The last time I called the young lady was more proficient at English. She said something doesn't look right here. I said I know. She told me I had called in a work order for "floors, walls and ceilings". That made no sense which she agreed with so she switched me to their cancellation department and I got an English speaking person. I told her the story and she said she would cancel out the contract and send an email stating that. I got the email 20 minutes later with a bill for $139.64 for cancellation. I am still fighting this fraud and will continue until they do the right thing! After checking out their rating I understood everything. Bad. Steer clear of this company!

Our hot water heater was leaking gas, PG&E came out to inspect and said the burner was bad and a covering was missing, we submitted our request to AHS and a contractor came out the next day. The contractor stated he would have to contact AHS for repairs, then called us the next day to say that AHS wouldn't cover it but he could give us a quote for him to fix it. Three days go by without word one from AHS, the first person we spoke with sad they had not heard from the contractor, then were told the service was denied due to missing part. In the contract it states covers faulty installation or missing parts. We are going on 5 days now with no hot water. We have spoken to several representatives to resolve the issue and have been hung up on at least twice. One rep said she could send out a second contractor for a second opinion but we were then told that couldn't happen because it was still up for review.
An AHS supervisor was supposed to call us yesterday and still no call. We have a copy of the home inspection from when we bought the house in Jan 2019, with no problems listed for the water heater. We have just gotten the runaround. They've had no problem collecting our money for the past 11 months, even when we had to have our oven repaired the first contractor they referred us to was rude and condescending on the phone and stated they would not fix the problem. It took three contractors and more than three weeks for it to be fixed. Extremely dissatisfied with the level of customer service from AHS, shady contractors that try to tell AHS one story then turn around and try and get the repair job themselves.

I'm a first (and now last) time customer with AHS. I've had my contract only 19 days and my first experience has been horrible. I was denied a claim for my water heater to be replaced bc AHS stated that it's a "preexisting" condition. There is nowhere stated in the contract the amount of time to justify a preexisting condition. The technician came to my home (38 days after my initial signup), and in his diagnosis, stated that there was "wear and tear" and the water heater was old; the small leak was there for over 30 days. Well technically yes, it was because I waited 30 days for someone to come to my home. I can see if it was 6 months old, but this is only 30 days old.
Now, it's denied where I have to come out of pocket. What's the purpose of having a home warranty if I have to pay out of pocket? I've lived in my home for 23 years and NEVER had an issue. Today, I've canceled my contract within 30 days and AHS Will not give me a full refund, despite what it states on their website: "If you cancel your contract within the first 30 days of your coverage, we'll refund your contract fees minus any service and claims incurred by American Home Shield." They stated that the out of pocket cost that they paid out on the contract exceeds what I paid in the monthly fee. To me, this is FALSE advertisement and unethical business practice. AHS needs to improve on their customer service and take care of their customers. Very frustrated and disappointed!
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have had several issue with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

We had AHS as the Home Warranty Company for 2 of our homes in California.
2. Our biggest disappointment is the process involved to cancel the policy when you become dissatisfied and/or sell your home.
3. To cancel your policy you will call a Call Center in Philippines and will spend hours on hold, and/or hours trying to communicate your wishes. The call center will document your conversation, but that information never gets transmitted to the Billing Center in USA.
4. So, what has happened to us is that we keep getting bills for a policy that was cancelled 6 months ago, and now we are dealing with a collection agency that will report "our delinquent" status to the Credit Bureau.
So, my advice to you is FIND ANOTHER WARRANTY COMPANY.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have had several issue with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

We had a storm here and apparently some of the breakers went. We called American Home Shield and the electrician came. In his inspection, he went up in the attic and looked, and the receptacles that were not working were an add-on years ago. He checked the breakers and replaced one of them, and we got all the electricity on the receptacles that were out through various rooms back again. But he said that it would be impossible for him to repair and get the electricity to the lower den, the bottom receptacles, because we’d have to tear down paneling and all that stuff. I couldn’t comprehend because they had to get the source of electricity and we were talking about years ago when we had it done to the receptacles.
We have no electricity down there. We're in our 80’s and we’re not gonna run a quarter from the upper receptacle down to the other ones. It’s a little inconvenience but I would love to have the one that’s outside that we used when we vacuum the car as they're not working. If only AHS could send somebody here to give us a price that would take to rewire the house. That’s where they lack. They are not following up on sending someone out. We had to spend a couple of days in front of the fire and sleeping bags. I don’t know if they forgot to order it, but they were really responsive once I called and reminded them. All in all, my experience with AHS has been perfect.

J&A gave us their options and then they reported it back to American Home Shield. Then we had gotten an email from someone from American Home Shield telling us we could get a new furnace but there could be an additional charge for all the piping that wasn’t included, which I kinda didn’t understand that. But when you think of how much you pay a year for the service, you think that would be included. Other than that, it went fine and they put the new furnace in. We had to go through all of the paperwork and ordering, but once they got the part in, they said they would be there at 8:30 in the morning. They came and they worked all day so they got it done. But one piece was cut wrong and they had to come back. So they came back in 24 hours and redid that piece. It seems to be working okay right now.

We wanna make sure that we're all set for the winter season. American Home Shield suggested that we should have this tune-up done on our air conditioning and heating system. It was very easy for us to set it up. It was $75 and it seemed like a good idea. The technician who came out was a very nice young man. He did everything he was supposed to do. He did a good thorough review and made sure everything was hooked up. That worked out well.

There was a special for a tune-up and Hansen Mechanical came out. They were very polite and they came in with their tools. They did what they were supposed to do and checked for coils broken and everything on the furnace. They had to take the filter out and the guy wanted to know if I had a replacement. I said I didn't and that I thought maybe he would have one in their truck. He said they don’t supply the different sizes. So, he told me that he would clean the one that was in it and then when I get an opportunity, to go purchase another one and he would get somebody to put it in. Then, he let me know that the furnace was in working condition and everything was fine. And he checked the carbon monoxide unit and everything looked good. I was very pleased.

My experience with AHS has been highly positive. My furnace was not working, and because I just moved in, I couldn’t figure out any of the troubleshooting information. I logged onto AHS' website, reviewed my warranty policy, logged a service call, paid my $75 fee and within 24 hours, J.E. Johnson showed up and fixed it.
With regard to my first claim, I would have suggested that they stop trying to find another quote, another quote, another quote. I started a claim on April 1st for a replacement pool pump, and I did not have my pool pump installed until mid-June. So that was a little bit crappy. It’s as if they were nickel-diming the people that they kept calling. I had four different pool people come out to look at my house, and that was inconvenient for me. At the end of the day, the dude that they ended up hiring broke through my fence and broke all of the tiles on the surround. He did the job, but he didn’t do the job that any of the other contractors would have done. I had a lot of conversations with AHS that it was ridiculous, but that was just that one. This time, it was fantastic.

Everything started with the AC. When the Anthem AC tech went out there, the heater was working properly based on what the tenant said. After they left, they had the AC running, but the heating was not working. So, they went out there again and found out they had the wrong parts, things were shorting out, and the list goes on and on. The tech was out there several times and he said a certain part was defective, so he cut off all the wiring and he took the part with him. Days later, they finally got the part and they sent a different technician to the property. The second technician saw all the wires hanging there not knowing how to put it together. He called several people. Finally, he got it working, but something went wrong and another technician went out there. They went out there several times and didn't fix it. Finally, they gave up and the last technician said that it has to be replaced.
I requested a second opinion and American Home Shield was kind enough to pay attention to my concern, and they sent Right Tech. Their tech went up there immediately and took care of the heater. He wired the whole thing and it was working perfectly. The tenant called me and said that everything was working, but it was not working anymore. So, the same tech from Right Tech went back and he noticed something was wrong with the wiring in the thermostat. He fixed that and in a matter of minutes, he got it working.
The gas company came out and checked the heater. They said that it's missing something, something about a safety switch. We called Right Tech again and the tech went for the third time and put the switch. Within a few minutes, everything was done. And now, everything's working great. The experience with the Right Tech technician was totally awesome. The second time the thermostat wiring went wrong, I didn't feel like it was his fault because it was working when he left. So, I don't know what the first company did. All I know is they've been out there so many times, different technicians touching the heater. So, every time, things are burning out. I'm very happy that something else didn't get burned out. I have AHS in several of my rentals. I'm in real estate and I sell their policies too. It's a good company. The challenge is that some of the companies that they hire just don't do what they're supposed to do, which is sad, but that's how it is.

When my AC wasn’t cooling, I had someone come out and replace a valve in the compressor. A few months later, the cooling stopped again. American Home Shield's contractor, Comfort Pro, came and investigated and was telling me that the cost of Freon would be $1,000, which is true. It’s like $100 a pound and I was going to need 10 or 12. The system was about 18 years old and I knew I was gonna have to replace it at some point. The guy explained that American Home Shield would cover many of the repairs but I would have to pay for the Freon, and there's no telling when I would have Freon again. So, I just went ahead and replaced it. The installation guys were great.
American Home Shield got their contractors out here very quickly. The first time, it must have been a time where a lot of people were busy, so they sent a backup crew. I wasn’t too comfortable with them, but they did get somebody out here. But Comfort Pro is their first ring, their A-team, and they are excellent. They have made a good choice with Comfort Pro.

My one and only opportunity to work with American Home Shield worked out very smoothly. It took about a week for my washer to be replaced after it was determined that it could not be fixed because they couldn't get the part. They sent me pictures of choices of the washing machine that I could get or gave me the option of going out within a certain dollar amount to a local purchaser like Home Depot or Lowe’s myself. Recently, Terminix made an offer to come out and do a review of the property and the status of it. I didn't know a lot about it, but the representative was very informative. He gave me some ideas on what he saw and what he didn't see. He made some preventive suggestions. With my house now being fully paid, I want to protect it completely so I decided to go ahead and take his services that he explained. He was very detailed about what I should expect and shouldn't expect from the service.

It was temporarily fixed, and then it came back, so we’re having the contractor back again. They had to reorder the part, taking 7 to 10 days. It has been frustrating. They should have gotten it the first time, but I understand you can’t always troubleshoot everything correctly. It’s nice to have that service. I know some of the contractors I get put American Home Shield on the back of the priority list. It’would be nice if they can work on that.

I’ve never been dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I submit my claims over the phone where I usually don’t have a representative. It’s usually a recording. Then, immediately, they assign someone to the job and they give me a phone number and a reference number right there on the phone. Then they contact the person who they’re assigning it to, and then that person contacts me. It's a quick process. When the condenser had frozen up, the contractor turned it off. He told me to make it so that it defrosted. He gave me instructions, and then told me to turn it back on after a couple hours so that it’d be thawed. Whatever he did, it totally fixed it. I like that company of the contractor.

The freezer was dripping. You could see some drips coming out of the freezer. And both the freezer and the refrigerator door, you could see into them when it was shut. They weren’t sealing. It took us a little while to realize what was happening, especially when the weather got a little bit colder, the freezer started getting drippy on the inside. I finally submitted a claim with American Home Shield. They were very responsive. They always are. They're pretty awesome.
Joey’s Repair Company was sent out for the refrigerator, and the contractor was awesome. He had to order a kit, and he took care of some stuff, and then, he ordered that sealing kit. He also took care of a dishwasher while he was there. I let them know that if the refrigerator repair guy could take a peek at the dishwasher, I didn't think it was washing dishes like it should, and he caught a problem that was underneath the sink where they had run a hose so that when you ran the disposal, it wasn’t letting the food go out. So, all he did was tie that up and it was great. He gave me some great advice. The dishwasher was still covered under the refrigerator claim. If you have items that are similar and they are covered by the same people, AHS will cover it.
I bought the condominium in May. My daughter is living in it, but it’s my condominium. We have American Home Shield for our home as well, and have had them for a few years. I did an online request to AHS for a furnace tune-up. I searched for it because I saw online the $70 for tune-up, which is cheaper than without insurance covering to pay for it. PSC came out and the furnace is running beautifully now. The tech just replaced the gas compressor in the furnace. Even though he tuned it up, he found one piece that needed to be replaced. The tech explained everything to me and showed me what the problem was. He communicated clearly with me, and he did a good job calling AHS to verify, to approve to put a new part in, instead of me calling them for an approval to pay for the part. So, he did his part and American Shield allowed him to replace it.

We’re fortunate in that, now, we have three out of four kitchen appliances fixed or replaced. When we had a problem with our fairly new refrigerator, they had to come out three times to get that finally repaired. The last guy who was here had the equipment to fix it and he did. However, the process I went through to get the cooktop done required a lot of my time, telephone calls and inquiries. There were four efforts to try to repair the cooktop and I was impressed with Green Wire, the repair people. They were very nice and made efforts but they couldn’t fix what couldn’t be fixed.
When I call AHS and say, "They’ve tried this many times and it’s ridiculous to send somebody out again to do this,” they say, “That’s what we’re required to do. We have to do it until the workman suggests or says that they can’t fix the cooktop.” It wasn’t until we went through about three of those events that they eventually said okay. That was when the last person, who was from Swift, came out. He was very nice. I gave him the history, he looked at it and said that there was no sense in trying to fix it and that they couldn't get the parts. From that point forward, we were fine.
All in all, AHS did a very good job. They were in business to make money and it didn’t come as a surprise that they were hesitant to replace the cooktop. Once we got past that, they offered quality appliances, but I wanted to go even better than that. I decided to buy one outside of their options. They’re supposed to send me funds, which they quoted, and I’ll use those funds towards the replacement cost.
With AHS, everything is fine until the product can’t be repaired or replaced, then you have to go through some insistence to get to the level of replacement. Or to put it another way, they were gonna continue to have people come out to try to repair the thing until I finally started to complain about the number of times. They then agreed to replace it. It took a lot of nudging and wasted time to get me there. But overall, I’m very happy with AHS's services.

American Home Shield resolved a couple of things that we had in the past. But the issue that we have now is hanging up a little bit. We’re still having the issue that we called about initially with the clanking in the heat. The contractor came back three or four times, bled the lines upstairs, but I told my wife to tell them that it’s coming from the basement. We could see there are two spots in the basement that are kinda corroded. And it seems it’s getting wilder now since we initially called it in a month ago. We wanna get it resolved. But they keep coming back to do the same stuff every time, so it doesn’t really make sense. Rather than doing the same procedure every time, they gotta change something and figure out what else is happening. They’re only been bleeding the lines every time, which is like you put a little key into the heating element on the floor and lets out water.

I purchased a home in December 2018 and my realtor advised it would be a good idea to get a home warranty plan at least the first couple years with not knowing the appliances/ac/heating/plumbing in the home. She advised Rhonda ** a Sales agent for American Home Shield would come and do these presentations at their office advising how everything is covered and if something can't be repaired, they would replace it. I was super hesitant to this, but my realtor kept advising how great Rhonda and her company were.
Well I signed up for their best warranty package which was $750/year + $75 / service call. About 8 months after having the warranty, I called for my first issue which was an AC unit not blowing cold air. The company they used was ridiculously unprofessional. It took them 4 days to come out after constant email/calling. When they came out they did not come during the schedule time, the service tech did not speak English. He advised my plan only covered the first $10 of the repair??? And he wanted cash for the rest of the repair cost. My realtor had told me to call Rhonda if I ever had any issues and she would take care of it. I called Rhonda several times and sent several emails, never heard back from her until my realtor jumped in and pushed Rhonda to call me. At this point, I had to get my own AC guy to come out and make the repair as it was 90 degrees out everyday.
A month later, my Jacuzzi tub was leaking small amounts of water. This time the plumbing company sent out was a little bit more proper and professional, however when they came out they saw the tub was a Jacuzzi Tub and advised Jacuzzi tubs were not covered under the warranty and they left within 5 minutes of coming to my house.
A few months later, my stove's control panel started acting up. I spoke to an agent at AHS and confirmed that my stove repair would be covered. They sent out a company that wasn't available for a week (which I was fine with as the stove still worked and I wasn't in a rush anyways). The tech took apart my stove and found 2 small dead roaches and 1 alive roach. Now my house is extremely clean so I am not sure how they ever got into there, but regardless as soon as he saw the roaches, he put everything back together and told me my repairs were not covered. On the sheet of paper he gave me, he put down "found a lot of roaches in oven, roaches damaged stove". Again only 3 total roaches were found, 2 which were dead. I highly doubt they affected the stove in anyway.
Regardless all 3 times I called American Home Shield, my issues were not covered and I am out $750 + $75/call. If AHS was free, I still would not recommend it. The amount of run around and crap you will get is ridiculous. Rhonda and her customer service team is garbage. I have voiced my opinion with my realtor and she has stopped using Rhonda and her warranty. PLEASE STAY AWAY! I GUARANTEE YOU WILL NOT BE HAPPY! DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID!
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have had several issue with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

I have a Hayward Prologic electronic pool control panel. If you’re familiar with this system you know that it controls everything on your pool from the pool pump to the automatic freeze control. If it's electric it's controlled by the panel. One function of the panel is to control the salt cell generator that is a completely separate system from the panel. The panel just turns it off or on. Well because it controls the salt generator AHS will not cover it. So basically the electrical coverage they CLAIM to cover is a fraud. Do waste your time on the pool part of the warranty if you have a salt water pool.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

A reviewer wrote this on 11/1/19 and I have to say I agree: "Worst customer service EVER. This company is set up to profit, which means, they do not pay out, and will look for every excuse not to... Instead, I opted for the cash out of $690, but ha, ya, umm.. of course they every excuse not to pay this.... you are so much better off paying for repairs out of pocket. Save the premiums and bank them to cover repairs the right way."
Furnace cracked, was covered, wouldn't replace it, only gave us $1300 to put toward a new one. This time it's the well pump, which is additional coverage we've had for the past nine years. Water pressure is 20psi for the past week, when I put in the service call. Per their policy within 48 hours someone comes out. Didn't get a call. Went online and it said contractor pending. I called in, they said they'd find one or push it through so I could get my own and they'd reimburse me. Next day's update had a contractor name and a note on top for ME to call THEM. I called and they don't service my area as they're an hour drive away.
I called it in to let them know and, you know, they're very sorry... so sorry for my inconvenience. So sorry. We'll get it worked out right now. Weekend goes by, nothing. No updates, no phone calls. Just called, girl said there are contractors in my area and they'll get one within 24 hours. I have a feeling at 8pm tomorrow I'll be calling and giving them another whiskey-tango-foxtrot only to be told they're working on it.
At this point I'm set to demand all the money I paid over the past decade for the extra well pump coverage because apparently it's doing no good and it's fraud. I'm guessing that 12 months a year at 9 years is plenty to cover a new well pump installation. Not to mention there's a place 15 minutes away and I just got a coupon for well pump installation in the mail. Unbelievable. The two stars are for the fact that on a couple of occasions the HVAC guys who came out were great. Like the last lady said, it's probably more worth it to bank the money paid for premiums and use that if anything happens. I think that's what we'll do after this well pump fix. If it ever happens.
Kevin,
I understand how frustrating this situation must be for you. I have sent you an email to you as well as reached out to you via phone attempting to assist with resolving any concerns you may have. I previously had Choice Home Warranty and I wasn't real happy with them. I went online inquiring about American Home Shield and when the gentleman first called me, he said I was getting a discount of $42 per month since I was signing up early.
When I first got the billing of about $49, I called and the rep said it was probably the first month that it wouldn't show up. But it never showed up since. So I was quoted one thing, and it came in different, and I'm not real happy about that. Also, the rep couldn't give me the name and phone number of the guy that I talked to. Our pool service company was out for inspection and noted that the salt cell was leaking. From there, we called American Home Shield to have somebody come out. We had somebody within five days and then, they ordered the part. The company that shipped the part sent the wrong one and it took the contractor another week until we had it fixed. The next week, the pool service company was out and informed us that it was still leaking. The contractor came out and redid the repair, and that fixed it. He was professional and let us know what was going on. He would usually leave a voicemail message or he would call me with brief details. He would come back and tell you what's going on, so that was fine.

We had just purchased the home and American Home Shield was offered to us. I did a little bit of research and the value that could be obtained from AHS over the other warranties seemed a little more appealing to us. A combination of the cost and the reviews we found online made us choose them. The contractor called and left a message to schedule the appointment when I made a claim to AHS. I called back and we got the repair scheduled. At the time of the visit, the interaction with the contractor went smoothly, and it was straightforward and very good. Now, there are no issues with our plumbing.

I filed a plumbing claim online and it was a great experience. American Home Shield's claims process was good and very easy. The plumber from Prestige Plumbing went out and he was very helpful, polite, timely and quick. He took care of things smoothly. However, my repair required some additional work to be done on my end, so I had to make a follow up over the phone. It was just an unusual circumstance of having to repair something prior to the claim repair and it ended up a little complicated. We couldn’t redo the claim online so we had to call back to explain. But it was fine.

My AC went out. The fan wasn’t blowing, and I couldn’t figure out why. So, I had to call American Home Shield to have them send someone to come out to see if there was something wrong with the unit itself. And it was the wires were crossed on the thermostat when it was installed. The heat was coming on when the AC was on, and the AC was coming on when the heat was coming on. Xtreme Heating & Air Conditioning came out, and the experience went fine. The unit works now. I submitted the claim online. And American Home Shield took a couple of days to respond. That time frame was about as good as it’s gonna get. The claim was with the AC and heating, but because it was a cooler temperature, it was okay. We just had to dress warmer because it was freezing in the house.
I got American Home Shield because I bought the house and I don’t know how old the units were. They haven’t really had to replace a unit. And with the unit I tried getting fixed, they said they wouldn’t fix it because the issue was cosmetic. It wasn’t so much electronic. But, to me, it was a safety feature because it was glass on an oven door. And it was rattley and literally duct taped together. But because it was still working, they wouldn’t do it. So, in a way, I’m still debating whether I wanna keep American Home Shield or not. I’m still up in the air, but I’m satisfied overall.

I'm going 15 years now with American Home Shield and it's easy to submit claims. The only one that was difficult was when the washer was leaking. Several people came out here and finally, the last other people was able to figure it out. I went from a person that dealt with the washer, and then a plumber, and then back with the person that dealt with the washer. It was getting rather tiring to me but it worked out. It just was a long process and was very exhausting. The time that I was having to wait was difficult. Then I found out my washer still had a problem. I had contacted them and it was early in the morning, because I'm an early riser. When I was speaking with the representative, she was trying to speak ahead of me and I didn't appreciate that. They should have listened to what I had to say because I knew what was going on. I was explaining it the best I knew how and she wasn't doing it, so I hung up on her.
I was also told that my policy number had changed, and also, the amount that I was supposed to pay had changed. Because I was not aware of that, that was when my problem began. I told them that they needed to make sure that I am notified of these changes and I needed an updated policy. I still haven't gotten that. Other than those, I'm good. They seem to be the only warranty place that I found out about lately that covers what I need covering. A lot of companies may be less expensive, but they don't cover everything unlike American Home Shield who does. And I know it's not their fault if the contractors come out and they don't know what they're talking about. I don't plan on leaving them. When I had two electrical sockets that had stopped working, Joseph from Hopwood Electric was able to fix everything. He wound up going up in my ceiling, up in my garage, because something was going on.

The technician did fine. There was nothing that was broken, and it was a preventative thing but I knew there was a slight problem with it. So I was waiting to see if the technician found that problem, and he did, and he said, “Hey, this could go wrong eventually.” So, I was pleased that he found that. I was happy with what he did.

Even though we had it inspected, we never know what problems could arise and so I got American Home Shield. Recently, we had an AC claim. The unit was just running and running even if we turned it off from the thermostat. We had to turn it off from the breaker to get it to stop. The contracting company that came out was good and professional. They got here on time, introduced themselves, and tried to make sure that they didn't track anything in from outside. They were diligent on trying to explain to me exactly what happened and what the cause was, and they showed and explained to me in terms I could understand. They said it was because the button broke and got stuck pushed in and it wouldn't pop out so it kept running. They replaced that and it's been working fine ever since.

We're relatively new with American Home Shield, and not fully understanding on the processes. We're retired people, so I don't think I'm as good on the computer as I should be. But I went in online, set up an account, I listed the issues that we had that came up, and they were assigned to Gilmore. A really nice technician came out and looked at the two appliances, and then went back and ordered parts and he said he would get back to me. He got back to us and he came back. The dryer was squeaking and making noises, and he fixed that. The dishwasher was showing a heating element sign. So it wasn't drying the dishes because it wasn't getting hot enough. He said that he didn't think that unit has a heating element, so he replaced the control board. But it didn't fix it.
I recontacted American Home Shield and they said if it couldn't be fixed, then they were gonna replace it. So they sent online a whole bunch of pictures of other dishwashers. But they had picked one that they said was the closest to what we've already got. They said it's stainless steel, and it would fit with our kitchen. I went with that. So that was very simple and they said I would hear in seven to 10 days from somebody.
Last Friday, I heard from a company saying they would be here Monday morning between 9:00 and 1:00 to take our old dishwasher and put in the new one. I was fine with that and they arrived this morning. The guy told me that the company he works for would not replace the dishwasher if the flooring doesn't run totally underneath the dishwasher. Because we've had our house totally renovated and we put down porcelain tile floors underneath the floor. And the floor installer put the floors under the fridge and the stove, but he didn't put it under the dishwasher.
The two guys that came and brought in the dishwasher were very nice. I called their company, and the guy said he was gonna submit the claim back to American Home Shield, but it takes their company a couple of days to process the paperwork. So he suggested that I should call them myself. I called back American Home Shield this morning, sat on hold for about 25 minutes, and got a very nice customer service rep named Anna, and she then called the delivery department. She put me on hold and then came back and said that it would be better if I called the delivery department. She gave me the work order number so I didn't have to go through all of the identification process again.
I called back and they said the wait time was 22 minutes, so I told them to call me back when they have time, and they did. The second lady I talked to in the delivery department gave me the phone number of the people that they've assigned it to. Her name was Anita, and she was very nice too. They've assigned the installation to a company close to us, like within 10 minutes from us, but they haven't called me yet.
The dishwasher is sitting in our kitchen, and the old one is in. The other guys wouldn't even take it out because they said if they were not supposed to put one in, then they shouldn't take one out. The liability issue is the same. Then I got an email today saying that they will contact me within 24 hours. It hasn't been 24 hours for the new company. So, I'm hoping I will hear from them tomorrow morning. And if I don't hear from them tomorrow morning, I might call them. But so far, I'm very, very impressed with American Home Shield. The process was pretty seamless and pretty easy.
Everybody has done what they've said they were gonna do. When they say a technician will call you within two hours of their assigned time, we've always gotten either a text or a call. All the people that have come in so far, especially Gilmore, have been fantastic and very good. They respect your time because they don't tell they're coming and they don't show up. They're very courteous, very easy to talk to, and very straightforward. The dryer doesn't make any noise anymore. It works fine. And hopefully, these guys will follow through in putting the dishwasher in.
We are pleased to hear that most of your issues are resolved. My name is Robert and I will be following up with you to ensure that your dishwasher claim is resolved.

I love American Home Shield. They’re a bit more expensive than other home warranties that I have considered, but they’ve never sent anybody to my house that didn’t get the job done. Maybe that was why they charge a little more. I’ve been with them ever since I bought my house, about five years. I’ve had other offers for up to $200 less a year than what I pay them. But every contractor so far that they’ve sent to my house has been honest. Sometimes, something wasn’t covered and the contractor showed me why it couldn’t be, and it made perfect sense, and it was something I had to pay to fix myself. Either there wasn’t anything wrong, or it was something that was broke when I bought the house and I just didn’t realize it.
I love these guys, but when I’m putting the bundles together and get on the phone to renew every year, I feel like I’m buying a used car. Because the rep that was pitching me would say, “Hey, this is one-time deal. I can only do this right now.” Or, “What if we cover this but don’t cover that?” And a lot of the stuff they cover like AC, duct work, how often is that really gonna be a problem? I’m just looking for the substantial stuff like my refrigerators and my garage door openers, or my heat and AC unit, or hot water heaters.
It’s nice to tell, “I’ll unclog a drain for you if you need it.” But I have a $125 deductible. The other companies that pitch me only have a $75 deductible. I can call somebody to my house for $125 to get a drain unstopped. If I need that, I’ll probably won’t call American Home Shield. I get it that they’re running a business and that they gotta make a profit, but when I get on the phone to renew, their reps would say, “Well, what if we did this? What if we did that? But now, I can only do this if you sign up right now.” I'd say, "I’m 60 years old. Let’s just have an intelligent conversation about what’s covered and what’s not covered. And let’s figure out everything that’ll work for us and you give me as fair a price as you can, and I’ll give you a credit card number. And let’s move on.”
The thing I appreciate most about American Home Shield is the quality of people they send in my house. That was why I stayed with them. I’ve not had anybody show up there that just act like they were lost or didn’t know what they were doing. Maybe they hire a bit better contractor. It’s nice when those contractors show up and they know what they’re talking about.

I like them. Their reps were professional. Even if they didn’t get problem right the first time, they would come back and fix it. They would sometimes give me tips about energy.
However, there was a different company that I had a problem with. It was Lone Star Water Services. I called them on Monday and they said they couldn’t come out till Friday. I didn’t realize that I should call AHS back and get somebody else to come. They couldn’t give me a time frame, and when they finally did, they just said that they’ll be coming between 4 and 7 on Friday. I finally had them come but they didn’t call me until 6:55. I tried to call the office and I couldn’t get anybody in the office all day. I will never work with them again. They lied to me. The company is shady.
The contractors couldn’t even call me and tell me that they were running late. I felt like they me put on the back burner because I have the warranty. And because they had me at the very end of the week, they didn’t even send the guy that they said was coming. The contractor showed up at 7:20 and I had to cancel an event. It sucked. But Cote’s Mechanical was fine. So far, I haven't had any issues with American Home Shield. It’s just that one company they contracted for the work with the water.

This because we can't take off of work and they will not schedule a delivery for us after 2:00 in the afternoon. The new dryer that they ordered and sent broke the first night we received it and now I have to work with the manufacturer in order to get that fixed. It is a new model dryer and they don't have parts in stock so I need to wait. Wait? For how long, I have now been without a dryer for over 2 months.

I've had American Home Shield for over 20 years. In the past, they’ve been very good. Recently, I'm having a little problem with them and they’re non-responsive. When you call in to find out about a claim and discuss the fact that you haven’t gotten feedback from them, and you’re still having a problem, they say things that really are a lot of words that make no sense and you get no answer. It's very frustrating. Their staff on the customer service line is uninformed and uneducated, and they seem to be reading from a script rather than really trying to help the situation. And they speak very slowly as if you're not understanding them. When you're having a problem getting an item fixed, repaired or replaced, then you're given the runaround. They seem to hire people with no brain and a difficult command of the English language or any language. They need to have people who can deal with things and address the issue and get some results.
Nevertheless, they send legitimate contractors to the house and they're as good as they are. I called AHS when I wanted a heating check-up. Donell from Controlled Climates called me immediately, he came and took care of it. He was very professional and is working hard to make a name for himself, so he was very responsive. That experience was fine. AHS have also used GE Appliance and they were awful. And American Home Shield is not responding and getting back to me and dealing with the situation. And every time I call, it’s an hour on the phone because they don’t know what to do or what to say. I don’t know what’s going on that side other than it’s very frustrating on my side.

The oven would not close because there was something with the hinges. It was easy enough to get in the website and submit the service request. Then, I got a message saying that I would be contacted within 24 hours and that Omega was assigned to me. I got a call from the contractor saying what could work and when we could schedule. Omega Force Appliance Repair came out, looked at it, said they had to order parts, then came back on another day and replaced the hinges. He was very professional and expedient. Previously, when I had a more urgent request for my washing machine, it said, "You'll be contacted within 24 hours, scheduled within 48." I had to clarify that if it was on the weekend, it means like 24 business hours or 48 business hours because I thought that was confusing.
When they have to come out and assess an issue and then they could not fix it that day, I understand that. But, for more common issues, if there is any way that the contractors can have parts with them, it makes it more convenient so I don't have to leave work two different times. But, overall, AHS is good. It's easy and convenient to get stuff scheduled, too. They are very responsive and they try to communicate quickly and in various ways. Having this home warranty makes you less stressful when something is wrong at your home.

I had another claim before for the plumbing. The leak was from the master bedroom in the shower and because I didn't want to break the inside tile, they charged $125 to send someone. They do that all the time when you have a service request, which is fine. But someone came and said, "We have to break it from outside so we don't break the tile inside the bathroom." I said, "Whatever makes it easier because if you do the inside bathroom, then you have to fix the tile." So then, they called back and told me that because they had to do it from outside, it was gonna be $675. So, I hired a plumber for $100, and he fixed it.

The customer service is very good and most of the contractors are good. AHS pay them, so all we have to do is do the service charge. One thing that we didn't like is one of the air conditioners, which was a Trane, went out and they put something in that looks older. My husband didn't like that and wanted a Trane but AHS wouldn't give it.

I needed help with a clog in the kitchen area, and got a very quick response from American Home Shield. Their contractor called to let me know when he was gonna be there but then I asked if he could move on to another customer and come back to me because I needed to do something really quick. He was good to schedule and he did. He was so kind and polite. He then showed up, took care of everything and explained everything to me. He told me that it happened because the house has been dormant for a while and sometimes grease hardens. He said we probably don’t have to worry about that again, just of course don’t put grease down the sink. He was great. He was even good with my dog, which was really sweet.

My microwave wouldn't work and once the contractors found out that the microwave needed to be replaced and I agreed to get it, they called and said they would be bringing it. The people who would be delivering it set up a time and then, called me and verified when they would be delivering the item. The first contractor was incompetent because they came out telling us that we needed to cut our tile and that we needed to take down the bracket. We needed to hire somebody else to come in and make some corrections before they could install it. I was a little frustrated. So, my husband told them to take it back, which they did.
I called back a couple of days later to American Home Shield, and the customer service was not good. The young lady, Rachel, kept telling me that I would have to pay for restocking fee and that it was my fault. She was screwed up so, I asked for a supervisor. She said one wasn't available and that someone would call me back. Nobody ever called me back, but I called back about a week after and a young lady was extremely helpful in implementing and getting the right people out here. She had me on hold but she told me she would and she kept coming back checking, so that she could coordinate getting the microwave redelivered. The second group of installers came out and they were prompt. They came in and did whatever they needed to do and put that microwave up within 20 minutes. The experience for this claim with AHS was troubling in the beginning, but in the end, it all worked out.

We had a choice of several warranty companies, and when I looked at the coverage, AHS seemed like the most reasonable for the money. We’ve called once and the people that came were excellent. They came quickly and when they said they would come. They were very easy to deal with, repaired the item in question and cleaned up after themselves. I like everything about the experience and we seem to have found a good appliance repair place.

First, we received an email from home warranty consisting of having a heating check done before the weather started getting cold. The person that I spoke with asked if I wanna do it as a check or have it as fixing. He said that if the company would find a problem, then a second claim would have to be done and I would be paying more money again. That’s $75 again to have a contractor to come right back out and then fix it. I tried to turn the heat on and it wasn’t working so I said that I’d do it as someone coming out to fix it.
Rose Heating Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal came out. I thought they were pretty good because it's their second time coming out for us. It was actually the same person and he remembered us. He was very thorough, professional, and quick. He took a look at the thermostat and saw that the heating wire was loose. He connected it back and then he went on the roof and checked our unit. He also checked our filter and let me know that we'd probably have a few more weeks for that to be changed. Everything has been great because it is definitely colder. My daughter and I are home all the time ‘cause we’re homeschooling so the heat’s been kicking on like clockwork.
This is our first home. We were renting before and compared to what we’re doing now, it was hard to get the landlords to come out and get things fixed. American Home Shield is very quick and easy to get people on the phone. They get a contractor assigned to you really fast, and so they can get things fixed. It's just that the $75 is a little bit excessive. But for what they’re paying for to have the things fixed, it’s not so bad. There was one thing that we didn’t get fixed, and we were bummed out about that. But overall, it’s been a good experience.
Robin,

I attempted to go online to submit a claim for a furnace repair. The American Home Shield website crashed when I had to submit after payments. It said that it didn’t go through so I had to call and it took 45 minutes to get through to a live rep. One other issue that is unique to me is I own duplexes. Unfortunately, when I try to submit a repair job, it does not allow me to put which address it is to. I had two furnace repairs. I had one at another time. The AHS site just does it to the same property over and over again, and they think you’re requesting a follow-up call on an original claim. This would require you to call in which is a deficiency in the website programming.
American Home Shield should probably accommodate multiple unit owners because then you wouldn't have to go through the whole, big ordeal of once again calling and having to explain. The online situation was a matter of inconvenience for me. Other than that, the customer service seemed okay. I was just placing a call and crossing my fingers that they would cover the procedure. With American Home Shield, I've gotten lucky so far. I had them before. I signed up with them on this new contract for my properties in December of 2018. At my other house, I had them for three years. When I had the warranty before on one of my main homes five years ago, I got it with the purchase of my house. I didn’t have a very good experience with them. There were not many alternatives out there as far as the monopoly on home service. I always shop around for that kind of stuff.
When it comes to the contractors that American Home Shield chooses, I look them up first. In Wichita, we have 200 different HVAC companies and they picked one of the newer companies that doesn't have an established track record. The contractor that I got had some really bad reviews. That’s not the fault of the contractor, though, because I know that they’re kinda bound to American Home Shield policies and procedures as far as taking out on the contract. I'm sure if customers called on an outside call, it would’ve been better.
In my case, I had no issues. The contractor fixed the problem. They were able to identify the problem quickly. But their window for the call was a little over the top because they gave me a cable company’s window of service which was like a six-hour window from 8:00 to 2:00. I was like, “Really? I have to sit around for six hours?” Normally, when I call an HVAC company, the window is an hour like they would be there between 9:00 and 10:00. That was one little thing that could be better. The contractor is a family-run business from my understanding when I talked to the rep, so I could understand they don’t have the luxury that the bigger contractors have out here with a fleet of trucks and a fleet of people. I haven't had any issue since the repair and I didn’t have any out of pocket expenses besides the service call. It was good all-around.

I put in a service request for my heater at 4 o'clock in the morning. Using the website was very easy. Then somebody called me at 9 o'clock. The tech was very polite and knowledgeable. He called prior to coming out and asked me what the heater was acting like. I told him and he said, "I'm pretty sure it's this, this, or this. I'll bring the part," and he did. He was here by 2:00 and fixed the heater that same Saturday, so I was shocked. I love AHS. I've been with them for quite a while and I've never had any issues. The subcontractors have all been very good. They've always responded promptly and taken care of things.

I'm in Hawaii and it's still warm and the AC is not working properly. I have a photovoltaic, and it's draining all my electricity. I think something is wrong with the thermostat. It just keeps on going back and forth. I have called AHS and the representatives were okay. It took a week for somebody to come out. They had two companies come and they didn’t do anything, and they left. They didn't finish the job. One said that they couldn’t fix it because they needed to ask Home Shield to get approval to fix my AC unit, and I didn’t hear anything back from Home Shield yet. So, I guess they put in their request, then Home Shield sent out somebody else, and the second person put in their request, and then Home Shield looked like they appointed somebody else to come back out, but the third person never showed up. So, I'm still waiting. This all took place for weeks. Normally, after I get that email, it takes about a week for someone to call me to set an appointment.

I submitted the claim to AHS over the phone. The rep I worked with was outstanding. AHS has been very good. We’ve enjoyed it so far. I had a freezer in the garage that I thought I paid extra for, and then come to find out when my freezer went out, they said it only covered the refrigerator in the garage and not the freezer. My wife read the contract and pointed out that their contract says no freezers, but I wasn’t aware of that before. When we took it out, the rep said we had to pay extra for appliances in the garage, and I said, “Yes, I have a freezer and a refrigerator.” And they said, at the time, they thought it was a refrigerator-freezer.

The second one was with my refrigerator and the technician from B & A Service, the contractor, was great as well as their customer service. Hurst Plumbing, the contractor, was right here on the dot and took care of the problem. I was impressed. They were very good, professional and friendly. They came in, took a look at it and determined it needed to be replaced. It was leaking and it couldn't be fixed so, they told me that they were gonna replace it. They went down to the nearest hardware store, picked up the hot water heater, came back and put it in. They were clean and it was a good process. AHS has good prices, so I went for their warranty. They sent Rush Heating and Air and they were fine, although it ended up that they didn’t find the problem. I ended up having to hire somebody and pay somebody out of my pocket. I also ended up having to pay over almost $7,000 for a new heating and air conditioning unit. Nobody could get to my house on a Saturday. I had an elderly woman living in the home and nobody was gonna be able to fix her heat for three days. So, in a Chicago winter, I, as a landlord, couldn't and didn’t allow that to happen. So I went ahead and I paid for people who could come.
Everybody who contracts with all of these home warranty companies are nice enough people and I know that they all have to work, but the contractors are not the best. But the thing is you're not gonna get contractors who are actually good at what they do because they have business of their own to contract with American Home Shield to get their business.

I had a fixture under the cabinet and the ballast went on in one of those lights under the cabinet. The fixture itself needed to be replaced, and they brought a new LED one out and replaced it. The contractors sent by AHS were really good people. It's a father-son thing, and the son was out of town so his dad came over here and took care of the problem the next day. They've worked here 3 times now, and were very responsive.
But I've had other issues with AHS in the past. I had problems getting in touch with the right people that can make a decision, like I had a dishwasher that broke and they put parts on there that didn't belong and they no longer made the parts. To make a long story short, I had to buy a new dishwasher, one of theirs and we're happy with it. It was 600 and some dollars. But it was almost like I had to get an attorney. AHS could be improved with a lot more companies as well. I worked Ford Motor Company for 25 years and did a lot in sales and marketing but also customer service. And it's just a matter of training your people right and you get good results.

When submitting a claim, I would prefer doing it online, but it has been my experience that it is not usually the best way. I found that calling and getting to speak to someone is a better method. There is a limited amount of information that you can put in the website. In this particular case, all I knew was that water wasn’t going down the kitchen sink. I don’t know enough to diagnose that between being the disposal or the sink itself or the plumbing underneath, and you can’t explain that on the website. It’s pretty much do a drop-down box and select your best guess. But if you guessed wrong, it’s a slightly different problem and the repair person can’t fix it because that’s not what was on their orders.

I’m a little worried about how American Home Shield vets their contractors. Twice, we got burned. I had a bad experience with CNJ Services. We had a stoppage and they came out, and it took them two days to say that the pipe going to the street had a belly in it. They wanted $5,200 to fix it because they had to break up cement. But I’m on social security so I couldn't. The contractor gave me all the directions and what had to be done. I have some friends and I paid them to do it. It cost me $1,800 to get it done but I still had the same problem so that was not what caused the issue. I called American Home Shield and they sent out another contractor who investigated it. He said I had a bad toilet here. He swapped out the toilet and it eliminated the problem.
I also had an issue with my washing machine and American Home Shield had to send another person out. The company itself, American Home Shield, was very accommodating. It is a great company. I like them. It’s just the contractors that they’d sent. American Home Shield really needs to step up their vetting process and get some better contractors.

I called American Home Shield about our AC that was freezing up and then they assigned somebody to come out. The contractor came out and told me what had to be fixed and they fixed it. They had to come out a second time though because they had to order the parts. They replaced something in the condenser and they replaced the fan. Their work was excellent. End of last month, we called AHS back because the garage door spring broke. I told them that the spring was broken and they assigned a serviceman but they did not tell me it was not covered. They don’t normally do that. I even told the people at the repair shop that was gonna come that it is a double spring. They ordered the double spring and the serviceman came out and said, “AHS doesn’t cover that. That’ll be $350.”
I should’ve been told right from the get-go that it was not covered. I looked in my book and it said that something wasn’t covered and I knew that, but I didn’t realize that the spring was included in that. My son-in-law got on the phone and he spoke to the higher-ups and said that I should not have to pay for the service call because the guy didn’t do anything. He came and told us it wasn’t gonna be covered and then he left, because we told him we weren’t gonna pay the $350. He must’ve been on the phone for at least 45 minutes trying to get it straightened out to get my $100 back. They told him at first, no, they didn’t do that. Finally, they relented and they said they would return the $100 within seven to 10 days. It has been a month, but I still don’t have it.
Other than that, everything else has been fine. I had a repair done for my washing machine and they did a fabulous job. I was very happy with the work. And I was very happy with the company that came and fixed the furnace. The gentleman was very business-like, very kind and helpful, and went above and beyond what he normally would’ve done to fix it for me.

Also, my interactions with their representatives have significantly improved. About 3 years ago, it was just dismal as it was very hard to get them to work with my property managers. And some of the vendors were unreliable, like in Colorado Springs where I had some big issues. And when they come out, whether they do anything or not, they still keep the 129. Their last visit was for the sink. The man said it wasn't a leak so there was nothing he could do. He said that American Home Shield and his company, Supreme Plumbing, were going to call back. And when they didn’t, I called and they said they would get back to me. The first company they sent me came out, and they said that there was a part they needed to put in. It was an upgrade and they would order the part. I asked them how long that was gonna take, and the tech replied that it would take about 10 working days, and it should be fixed. I waited a week and then I hadn't heard anything to call me back. So I called them, and they said that they couldn't fix my Samsung refrigerator because they don't work on Samsung at all. But why didn't somebody tell me that in the first place? It was ridiculous.
I called back American Home Shield, told them what this company said that they couldn't fix it, and they said they would get somebody else. They sent out Sears about two days later. They came quickly. The guy pulled out the icemaker, and he told me it was frozen up there, which I had known it was before because I had pulled it out myself before the first company came and took a hairdryer and melted down the ice inside the icemaker. He cleaned it all up, and he said that maybe my water pressure was too high. So he kinda pulled on the line back, so it wouldn't be so high. He told me to keep an eye on it, and pull it out and clean it out in a week. I told him okay, and I waited two days, and it was frozen up again.
I cleaned it out, and I called back American Home Shield. They sent out Sears again. And the guy said he cleaned it out again, but there was nothing they could do for me and that they couldn't keep coming back out here to clean it out for me. So I had to keep an eye it on myself, and that was BS. I went online and started looking up online what was up with the Samsung freezers, and there was a lot of complaints about it not making ice. But mine was making too much ice! It wouldn't stop making ice. I was having to empty out the tray of the icemaker twice a day.
I then got ahold of Samsung, and they said they would send somebody out. So, I called them and talked to them, and I told them there was a problem and what the problem was. This was not going through American Home Shield, so they're gonna charge me. They told me the price of the labor and then the price of the part. They told me that it was gonna run me down 600 bucks. But my refrigerator was not quite four years old yet. Then they told me that since it was the first time that I called them, they would do the service at no charge.
When the Samsung specialist came out, he said the problem was a sensor on the icemaker that was supposed to tell the icemaker when the tray is full. The old ones used to have an arm that came down. It didn't have it anymore. The old-fashioned way really worked well. The sensor was broken so he replaced that part. The tray had cracked some because the ice holder had cracked some. He told me that he could fix it instead of buying a new one. So he fixed it. And then, when he put it back in, he told me to not pull this out. But I told him that the other two repair people said just pull it out and empty it. He explained to me that there's kinda like a prong thing in the back of the icemaker that it engages, and it cycles the thing, so it dumps the ice. And if you take it out and don't get it back it there properly, it doesn't cycle properly. He said that if it fills up, just get the ice out of the door and empty it some.
I asked him if I could just turn off the icemaker if I go away for several days, and he said that would be fine and I could just turn it off. I confirmed with him that the lines won't freeze up in the back where the water comes in, and he said no and that that was not a problem. I told him the guys from Sears told me to not do that because the lines will freeze up. So the guys from Sears were not trained and they didn't know what they were doing. Although they sell the Samsung refrigerator, their repair people don't know diddly about it and how it works, or at least how the icemaker works.
American Home Shield should know who or whatever company they're sending that they're able to work on whatever that problem is and send the appropriate person. They should really know the appliance and they're qualified to fix it. Other than this incident, I've never really had a problem with American Home Shield. My house is 13 years old. I got a warranty with them within the first year of me owning it, and I bought it as a brand-new home. So I've always had them for repair work on this house. They've always been very prompt.
I apologize for the way we've handled your claim. An agent will contact you in an effort to resolve you claim. We look forward to assisting you.

There was a problem with where the wires are connected, and Turner Electrical and Lighting found the problem and corrected it. They were very knowledgeable and did a professional job. Because I’m computer illiterate, doing a claim online with AHS is difficult so I call it in. I feel more comfortable. And the representatives are more than helpful. They’re awesome.
Emerico,
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

I called to speak with the American Home Shield representative and they were very good. Roadrunner Appliance replaced my stove, and the only thing that got to me was that when we moved in there, there was a stainless steel stove in here. They couldn't get the parts for it, so I ended up getting a new one and paying $145 extra because I wanted a stainless steel one. We had gone and bought appliances to go with the stove, and we had to pay an upgrade to get the stainless steel stove. They also couldn't hook the stove up, so they had to leave it in the front room for me. They didn't have the right parts to hook it up, so I had to go buy the parts to boot to go hook it up. AHS also wouldn't cover my hot water heater, and it pissed me off. They did come out and take care of me, so I'd still recommend them.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for our heater and the contractor, MS Services Inc., has been out two times and we’re having the same issue now that we had the first time. When they came out, we couldn't replicate the problem and now, the problem is back. Their communication and customer service have been okay and the issue has nothing to do with them. It was the same guy who came out. There was a part that they ordered four times. Each time that it was ordered, it was the wrong part. Then, when the person came out and we thought he had put the part in, he hadn't. So, we had to make another call for them to come out because we couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. It was a different guy who came out the last time. He came in and looked at the heater, which came on, and he was in there in and out within five minutes. He didn't mention anything else.
We went back and forth and then, we finally ordered another part and come to find out the part never arrived. It has been over a month. I sent American Home Shield an email saying I ordered the part and I didn't get a response from them. After two weeks, I called AHS and got them on the phone. They told me that the part was ordered but it was sent to whoever installed it and that person never contacted them to let them know that the part was in. I was frustrated because we have been trying to get that same part fixed for four months and we have yet to get it fixed. We called them this morning and they're supposed to call us back but they haven't called us back yet.

I'm really happy with AHS. I called them to have the shut-off valve replaced and I explained to the rep what was the problem. He told me it was under covered items, so he was gonna call the plumbing company. I've been using this plumbing company a couple of times before, but their company is not too good at it. When they came out, they looked at it right away, and told me that it was not covered item. But why couldn't they say this to me earlier? And they just came out, and they say no, so I have to pay. I had to call AHS and told me it was under covered, but the plumber said no. I didn't wanna pay because they sent a plumbing company, and I didn't ask for it, and they charged me. They gave me back what I have to pay, so it was okay. I'm satisfied. American Home Shield is good company. They did it good.

Everything from beginning to end was pretty impressive, and in general experiences with things like this don’t go very well. From the beginning with the person who helped me on the phone to the people that showed up to do the work, everything was perfect. The plumber was really earlier than what we had discussed, and he called me to see if it was okay if he came earlier, which was fantastic, because then it didn't take up my entire day. He had to pull the toilet and replace the wax ring because it was in pretty bad shape. He resolved the issue within an hour. It was pretty quick. He was super, super nice. For things that are typically not good experiences, this was awesome. Everyone was really nice. Nobody gave me the runaround, and everybody told me what to expect, what would happen, and that was exactly what happened. It was pretty amazing.

The pool was making a real loud noise from the pump, and it also had a small leak in the Polaris hose pump at the actual pump side, not on the hose in the pool. Watertight Pool & Spa came out and they replaced one hose and did some other stuff. This is my first claim with American Home Shield and everything seems to be fine.
