I love the online process for submitting claims with AHS, and everything went well in a recent claim. Within the last month, we had two plumbing issues. One was with the upstairs toilet not flushing properly, and with that the contractors put in new parts and rodded it so it’s now functioning perfectly. Then, I had a problem with the electric water heater since it kept knocking the breaker off. I thought it was something with the heating element but according to my sister who was at the house when the contractors came, they replaced everything so it’s working properly now. I've had contractors out to my house several times, even prior to these last two, and I like them.

My garage door wasn’t going up out of the blue one day. After I submitted the claim for that online, American Home Shield had a good response time and a knowledgeable guy from Garage Door Experts came out. I had to pay him out of my pocket, however, because the part with an issue was said to be not covered on the warranty. So, one of the AHS reps made a commitment to me to do a one-time courtesy of waiving $100. They said that the process is pending, which is okay, but in the meanwhile, I’m getting past due notice and that’s not acceptable ‘cause I don’t wanna mess my credit over $100.
They also can’t send people nastygram if they’re working on reversing something. Every time I get it, I would call and tell them, “Hell, I can pay the $100. I can afford the $100 but you should talk to the technician that we'll get it reversed.” I don’t want my credit bad and I definitely don’t wanna be getting any nastygram because I can pay the $100. I can afford the 100, but we made an agreement and I’m not trying to get something for nothing. They’re saying the right things when I call but it’s not getting resolved. I’m not to the point of being upset but it’s still unnerving that I’m getting past due notice.
Kerry,
I hate to hear that we have not corrected this billing issue. I have sent you an email to you as well as reached out to you via phone attempting to assist with resolving any concerns you may have. My AC wasn't blowing cold so I went online to file a claim with American Home Shield. It's very simple. I just log on and select which appliance I'm having an issue with and decide on the correct issue. The gentleman that came out was very professional and he fixed the issue quickly. The only thing with American Home Shield is that their rates are discounted for the first year but they raise it after that. I was a little shocked that it went up 3, $400 for year two. Maybe they have that in the fine print but when you're buying a home and signing a million plus one documents, sometimes, you miss the fine print. But I still went with them because even it's 8 or $900 for a year, the air conditioning could cost more than that. It gives my wife peace of mind as well, so that's bonus points.

We were having trouble with our heater and Cote’s Mechanical came out the next day that I had requested them. The guy was quick, the whole process for him diagnosing and then getting the main switchboard repaired went well. He found that when he would hold it into position, it would work. So he said, he’d let it go and then it would make false contact. So, he replaced everything and he was able to do that in the first visit.
I had American Home Shield for several years at my previous location. When we moved here in June, I started it back up on this house. I feel really great about their service. There was just one time that I had not a great experience. It was because our AC went down, and it was the whole weekend before they were able to get anybody out there. So, I wasn’t happy about that. But out of all the years that I’ve had them, that’s just a one time. It happens and I know sometimes that’s out of their control, who they use and their hours of operation. So, I’m very happy with American Home Shield.

I like to call in and speak to someone when submitting claims as I'm always on the road and I'm in the car. As soon as I call in, I get the help. It’s just getting someone to call me back is the problem. Recently, I had water building up in the intake section. I change the filter every three months and notice water was leaking there. Water was overflowing from the coil and the coil was all messed up. Last year it happened, this year it happened. It’s going on like a yearly process and American Home Shield changed contractors. The ones that did it last year was from local and a different one. The guy came in, cleaned it and did everything he could, and I never had a problem.
AHS now sent United Air Temp Air Conditioning & Heating out. The guy was down-to-earth and a very nice person. He was very good and clean but I didn’t think he knew what was wrong and I checked it and he said it should work. Then three days after, he came back for the second time and said it could be the coil. He cleaned the coil and the leaking stopped. I had my neighbor go in there so they could check and see if it’s wet, and it wasn’t so it’s gotta be doing something with the coil. Now it’s good but I don't know for how long. Overall, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield.

The switch wasn’t working but I didn’t know what was going on until the contractor came out and he had to go in and replace the wiring that goes into the box. I like talking to a person and I usually give American Home Shield a call when submitting a claim. Other than me trying to find my account number where I keep it locked up, the process is easy as opposed to doing it online or doing it through a machine. Everything is automated but I’m old-fashioned and I would love to be able to just call in and not have to press two or three buttons to get to a human. Still, I’ve been happy with AHS and I’ve been able to call if the service wasn’t done right. They’ve always made it right for me. So overall, I am satisfied with American Home Shield.

One day after I made a claim for a plumbing issue with AHS, someone from Loyalty Home Services was scheduled to come out. My claim was for a frozen valve on one of the toilets and a leaky valve on the hot water for the washing machine. The technician did a good job. There was also an electrical issue and the person who went out and diagnosed it said there was a failed fan but AHS didn't cover it. I bought a fan and they replaced the one that failed. But they found that the switch was actually the one that was bad and not the fan. That wasn’t AHS' fault but their vendor’s.

Recently, they sent a contractor for a heating issue. My tenant said that the pilot kept going out. The technician was very nice and he realized my tenant had the back door open. There is a door on the utility room and he explained to her that if she was gonna open the kitchen door, it was gonna blow air in so she has to close the utility door room.

I’ve been a customer of American Home Shield for several years on several properties. The ease of which I can use their online services and some relative ease of accessing a human when I have problems have been quite good. When I had a furnace issue, they sent out Action Repair Service. They were good and able to resolve the issue in under an hour. I did this claim online and I think that process is very efficient and easy to use. For preliminary requests for service and getting information, it’s quite good. But it’s not good for follow-up questions and concerns which I had in another situation.
When I had an issue where there was a part of the boiler that needed a replacement, American Home Shield sent out Family Plumbing. They resolved the problem in an hour which I thought was very good. The gentleman who came was very prompt and earnest in his attempt to resolve the problem. With this particular claim, I had used up my yearly allotment of 1,500 for the boiler. I had to then pay out-of-pocket about $300-something which was the balance remaining after I spent my $1,500. I asked American Home Shield if I could get a breakdown of what the repair technician had charged in terms of parts, labor, and all of that. Unfortunately, they couldn’t provide that information. At some point as a consumer who was paying out-of-pocket, I would have liked to know which of that was going to labor, parts, and admin fees. It was just a matter of curiosity and I wanted to be able to have access to that information.

The first claim with American Home Shield was with my AC and the last two have been with my heater, which took a while to resolve but it finally worked out. The whole thing took months, and getting to the bottom of everything was the problem. It started with the AC, but then the furnace wouldn’t work. So, the problem was traced back to something that nobody discovered the first time they came. I didn’t get the feeling that the people that came out were well-versed in heat pumps, which is what I have. And they weren’t well versed in diagnosing the problem.
I had to call the person that put it in, and they came out and told me what was wrong. I had to pay for that visit, plus I had to pay for them to come out. The guy that came down the first time came down from Midland, but I live in the Detroit area. That’s two hours away. So, I’m not quite sure why there aren’t more contractors in the Detroit area that can service people. Still, I didn’t have any trouble getting them out. They called me within 24 hours, and they were out within a day or two.

We had a dryer that wasn’t drying anymore and the guy from Sears that American Home Shield sent was a super nice, young man. He worked on our stove and our dryer, and discovered certain things that were already going on that weren’t necessarily the cause of the problem. So, he made sure everything was covered. Then, we got a replacement on our dryer and a repair on the stove itself. He had to order parts and come back but he was absolutely spectacular. AHS took care of us well on that one and so, I was very pleased. I’ve been with AHS for seven years and I had one bad experience on an appliance. We had a problem with the servicing agent but they still remedied the situation, so it was all good.

We filed a claim to AHS for a water heater that cracked. It had to be ordered and replaced and after two weeks of dealing with it, the contractor finally got it done. The time frame should've been a lot better. When you're having a water heater problem, it shouldn't take you a week to resolve it. It took them a couple of days to come out, then the guy came out three times to get it repaired the right way. After he put in the water heater, it started leaking again so I had to call him back out. Luckily, he was still in the area and then he came back that night and fixed it. Once they got it fixed, everything went smoothly. Everything's working in perfect condition. I suggest that if they're gonna do something, they need to let the person know what's it gonna cost, the period or time frame it's gonna take. I was without hot water for a week. Thank goodness it was the summer.

AHS has the worst customer service and follow up I have ever dealt with with any company. They never follow thru after a service call and each and every service call needs 2, or 3, and even 4 trips to get the appropriate contractor out to do the repair work. They never have an answer for any questions and still charge the service fee even though on multiple occasions they do not honor the covered work. DO NOT pay to use their warranty service.

We had a couple of rooms that kept tripping power on the circuit breakers. We couldn’t keep the power to those rooms. And then we had a fan go out in the bathroom, which American Home Shield replaced. But it takes forever if it’s something that needs to be replaced. At one of our previous homes, we didn’t have a refrigerator for two and a half months because the process was so difficult. But for small stuff, where somebody can come out and repair it that day, it’s very easy. So, the process is built for things that can be fixed the day of service, but if you have go past that, it’s horrendous.
If they have to spend money, that’s where it gets bad. You have to push a needle uphill. It’s ridiculous. This kinda makes sense within the warranty world, and they’re not new to that. You never saw a warranty that make money off stuff they have to pay out, and they’re gonna make sure they’ve done everything they can to not payout first. That’s how I feel about them. But they do their best with customer service. Their call center is very responsive and I like that. Also, they’re quick to get you set up.

The only time I spoke with somebody was when the person actually came. He came on time and did a good job, but I'm still having problems with the problem that he came to do, and that’s the igniter. I think I need a new igniter ‘cause ever since then, it just works one night and then the next night, we have to do it again. So, I still need them to come back and check it. I don't know if we're gonna make it through the real winter itself if I have to keep calling and paying $75 every time I call like that.

American Home Shield pissed me off because we had a leak in the ceiling, and they came in and repaired the leak but they didn't fix the ceiling. I said, “What’s the sense of having insurance to fix things if you guys don’t fix it?” I had to hire a drywall guy, and it ended up costing $2000. I thought that was misrepresenting what the company goal was, so I dropped them. I decided to get it again ‘cause I can imagine that things are going to start failing. Premiere Appliance Services recently called me and told me when they were coming, followed up by another call saying they were about 30 minutes out. The guy came in and he was very polite, seemed to know what he was doing and went right to the problem. Submitting a claim with American Home Shield has been straightforward. However, my AC claim was a bit tricky just because I don’t know anything about HVAC units. The unit started smoking a little and smelled like burnt copper. I wasn’t sure what was happening so I called American Home Shield and asked them to send someone over. This is my first home and I wasn’t sure if the problem was the AC, the heater, the motor or the blower so when I opened up the claim, I just chose AC. They were able to get to us within three or four days because it was the weekend and scheduling was a bit busy.
Then I had to call the contractor that was assigned to me to schedule an appointment. They asked me whether the issue was the AC or the heater. Apparently, their contract with AHS said that it had to be one or the other. That was a bit of a challenge so they asked me to call back AHS. I told them my whole spiel and said that I didn't care if it was AC or unit, just get someone to come over. I had to call twice and the second time I called, there was a lady who understood my problem and was able to put an add-on of the heater. Everything was really smooth and the contractor could then check out the HVAC. AHS should make things a little easier. The contractor was more than capable of doing both AC and heater. Don’t give the runaround and just get someone to come over. I’ve submitted a couple of other claims within the past two and a half years that I’ve been with them and it was fine. It worked smoothly.

I recently filed a claim for my washing machine. It’s got an automatic dispense and it was broken. Sears came out. They gave me a date and then also gave me the phone number as to who it was. The washing machine has been operating good since they came out, and it made it easier on me.

I’ve always had a great experience with American Home Shield. When our tenants ran their washing machine and it tried to drain, instead of going up a line, it pushed the water back up through the toilet that shared the bathroom with it. All our tenants must be able to use either of their bathrooms. It was an emergency situation so I called the plumber and got him to come out the same day.
At first, he was borderline not wanting to come out because it was almost the end of his day. But to his credit, he ended up going out. He dropped his snake in the outlet where he put it in at the back of the house and he had to go. His religious beliefs made it so he couldn’t continue working that day. But he came back out on Sunday and finished taking care of it. I was happy with him, overall.

We had water valves replaced. The first contractor that AHS sent out was poor. He must’ve been having a bad day. I was waiting for him and he came up to the door. His hand was knocking at the door but he wasn’t knocking and he doesn’t push the doorbell. I have Ring doorbell so I saw him there. It should be all on record there. I watched him walked back to the truck, so I opened the door and I said, “Hey, what’s up?” And he said, “Oh, you’re home.” And I said, “Yeah. All you have to do is ring the doorbell. I have Ring doorbell.” He said, “I did.” I went through the whole thing and he started getting chippy with me. He came in and just looked behind the washing machine and said, “That’s a water damage.”
I told him that those were water lines. It was damaged, all right, but there was no damage to the wall nor the hoses. The problem were the valves, that the handle broke off and both of them were frozen up. They were 15 years old, because my home is 15 years old, and they were about to be replaced and I was gonna replace the hoses, but when I went back and saw that, that was when I called AHS.
AHS sent a follow-up fellow from Centurion Plumbing and he was great. He said, “I don’t know what’s wrong with the first guy, but this is definitely faulty valves.” I requested that second person in and they got it taken care of, they replaced the valves. They had to cut a hole on the wall there and then they sent another contractor out to do the repairs, and everything is good now.

Our washing machine broke. We called American Home Shield and they sent Mr. Service out to look at it. The tech said the drum inside the washing machine was not replaceable and then put a claim in. AHS called and said that they were gonna order a new washing machine. Then, they called someone to deliver it and set it up. Overall, I received a quick response from AHS and good customer service. They do good background checks as the people who have come out seem to be professional and legit.

Then to find out we are not covered for the issue on the heater. This is the second time we have gone with a home warranty plan and both warranty companies do the same thing. They ask 50 questions to get to a no so they can say "oh no its outside your plan". Keep your money, put it in savings to pay for it yourself.

DO NOT use American Home Shield!! They are a very broken company. Seven weeks and counting my family has been living in an 85 degree home. I've been paying premiums for 4 years and this is what I get. AHS had to switch me to another HVAC contractor because the first one (Anthem Mechanical in Coachella, CA) failed to repair after 4 visits. It is IMPOSSIBLE to speak with someone at AHS in a position of authority or to escalate my matter. Ironically, they sent me a customer satisfaction survey after closing out the failed repair order with Anthem.
I provided detailed feedback and a poor rating. No surprise, AHS has not even bothered to reach out to me. I'm assuming AHS will filter my review on THEIR website, hence my reason for posting to THIS website. I really hope this review helps someone from making the same mistake I made. However, the nightmare is not over. After 7 weeks, I was told I need to START ALL OVER AGAIN in the repair process. Praying that the new HVAC contractor is competent.
Hi Mike,
Your concerns about American Home Shield and your most recent experience are understood. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I requested service for our dishwasher and stove. A repair service came out within 48 hours of the request. They said parts were needed for the stove and the dishwasher wasn't repairable. AHS gave us an option to replace the dishwasher with a much lower quality washer, or would give us a rebate at Home Depot to replace it ourselves. The rebate was for about 1/3 of the price for a comparable dishwasher. Not the greatest result but I'm sure it was in the fine print of the contract somewhere... We agreed to the rebate approx 6 weeks ago. Still have not received it.
I've spent over two hours on the phone tracking it down and was finally told to call the customer service department for rebates.... Not the customer service department I was calling the whole time??? As far as the stove, the company never called or returned messages. AHS gave us another company to fix the stove. This company did not work on our stove.... The whole process with AHS has been very disappointing and I am doubting the cost per year is worth the hassle.

I have had American Home Shield for nearly a decade. I stopped my service with them at some point because they were not responsive to my complaints about the contractors they use. I left AHS and started to use another home warranty but was concerned about what they would cover if a system needed to be replaced. Against my better judgement I went back to AHS and I am experiencing the same difficulties trying to have an incompetent, crooked contractor replaced and speaking with someone from AHS who can effectively resolve the matter.
Three weeks ago I contact AHS about my furnace that stopped working. They sent out a contractor that was unprofessional at best. I complained about my experiences on two separate occasions but AHS told me that starting with a new contractor would only increase the wait time on having the unit fixed/ replaced. The furnace was deem irreparable and needing to be replaced. AHS was only willing to give me $529 cash out if I opted to use my own contractor. When I addressed the contractors unprofessionalism directly, he refused to complete the service, understanding that I had no heat and temperatures were dropping below freezing.
Each call I made to AHS took no less than an hour. Initially they told me they need to obtain permission from a separate department to change contractors, even though the current contractor was refusing to complete the work. After three phone calls on a Friday (the last call took 2.5 hrs) they agreed to send another contractor.
That is when I learned that the first contractor was unprofessional, incompetent and dishonest. The new contractor was unable to even run a diagnostic on my system because parts of my furnace were missing. AHS provided no written detail of what services were done by the initial contractor in the four visits he made to my home. In another phone call on Friday night, it took an hour to determine that the "new part" the first contractor ordered, was never installed in my furnace. Another part that was ordered, is not even appropriate for the furnace I have (therefore another scam on the part of the contractor). The first contractor left trash and debris in and around my furnace.
I am still in the cold as it is 25 degrees outside this morning. The new contractor cannot help me until they order and replace the missing parts, run a diagnostic and figure out what needs to be done. I am waiting on another phone call from AHS "Contractor Relations" department to tell me what recourse they will take with the previous contractor. In the meantime, I am praying that my pipes don't freeze.
AHS is not concerned at all that I have paid a monthly fee for three years and this is my first service complaint. They are not concerned about additional costs I will incur if my pipes freeze. They have the all-time worst customer service and they pick the cheapest contractors they can find with no regard to feedback from their customers. As soon as this issue is resolved I will cancel my contract with AHS, put my monthly payment in a savings account and open an equity home line of credit for emergency work. Using AHS does NOT allow you to rest assured that unexpected home repairs are covered and will be handled quickly and professionally.
Natasha,
I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your experience with us. Thank you for speaking with me in an attempt to reach a resolution. I regret that we were not able to reach a resolution together. Take Care.

American Home Shield's services are good but trying to get my bill paid was a nightmare. Two of my debit cards wouldn’t take my annual payment. I tried all the ways to get it done, and I finally just went through my bill pay on my bank and had the check mailed. I was told by three different customer service people that the amount was 375, but when I got done, I got a bill for another $111. It took three weeks to get that solved. I was not happy with that, and I’m not sure I’ll be renewing again next year. But I have already had to use it just the other day. The furnace refused to heat up. The contractors came out and had it fixed in like eight minutes. Through American Home Shield, the services are quite decent. They just have to improve their customer service. Some of their reps don’t speak English really well, and how come three different people told me that my bill was a certain amount, and then it turned out not to be? It just wasn’t satisfying.

We bought the house in August and American Home Shield was part of the real estate transaction. We’ve used it twice - the first time, we couldn’t get the dining light to work. From the time we moved in, it wouldn’t work. I had an electrician out here and that went great. The second time, not so good. I was cooking and heard something popped, and then about half the outlets in my living room, kitchen and dining went out. I called the automated system and they asked what I needed help with, and I said, “Wall outlets.” I repeated it and they said, “Such and such a day, we will have someone come out to fix your wall air conditioning unit.” I said, “No, no, no. Cancel, cancel, cancel. It was wall outlet, not wall air conditioner.” I had already paid over the system, so I had to get that cancelled. So, I had to do it again.
I called on a Saturday and they said, “You’ll receive a call within 24 hours letting you know someone’s gonna come out.” Come Sunday evening, I called and I said, “I was told I had to receive a call within 24 hours.” I spoke with a representative who said, “Oh, no. That’s just during the week. It’s not 24 hours on the weekend.” I called back on Monday and they said, “Somebody will call you,” but I didn’t hear all day. And then Tuesday later on the day I said, “I still haven’t received a call back.” The rep said, “I’m going to check on this.” This was somebody that had a thick accent, so I had a hard time understanding. But she did check into it and I was on hold for several minutes, then she came back and said, “They cancelled your work order.”
I said, “Why did they cancel my work order? I didn’t cancel it.” They said, “They cancelled it because they didn’t have enough technicians, and they’re not gonna be able to get to you for a week.” And I said, “I don’t know what’s going on in the walls of my house here. I don’t know whether to be worried about fire.” It was really rude of them to cancel it without telling me. I was left suspended out here and I was very upset. The lady said, “There’s another one here, Mills Electric.” And I said, “I don’t know anything about them.” I had Ion before and I was pretty happy, but I'm not happy with them now since they cancelled without telling me. I got a hold of Mills and I spoke with the lady that works at the front office, and she was absolutely wonderful. She called me back in a while and said, “My guy here finished in Chattanooga early. Can he come by today?” And I said, “That would be wonderful ‘cause I need to go to work tomorrow.”
She sent him out here and he did a really good job. Everything has worked fine, but it took me staying on it and complaining and saying, “Look, I can’t sit around here for a week.” In one of the outlets that went out, my refrigerator was plugged into it. So, I had to plug my refrigerator into an extension cord and find an outlet that worked. When Ion Electric cancelled my work order without telling me, I consider that to be the epitome of rudeness.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

The refrigerator was not cooling properly and the contractor put Freon in, and they thought maybe that would fix it, but it didn’t. A month later the refrigerator wasn’t cooling again, and this time the contractor ordered parts to replace what he thought was wrong. So, hopefully that fixes it. I think that it wasn’t quite clear when we created the ticket with American Home Shield that we were supposed to then call the company to make an appointment or to let him know. At least my tenant wasn’t clear about that. And he’s pretty computer-savvy. It was like 5 o’clock in the afternoon, and I wish I knew that I was supposed to call them because I would’ve called them as soon as I opened a ticket with them. Nevertheless, filing a claim has been easy, and their contractors came very quickly. The first time, they were there the same day. The second time, they were there the next day. I’ve recommended AHS to two other people just this past week.

I've had American Home Shield since September. This is my first experience with a home warranty company and AHS seem to be doing what they’re supposed to be doing, which is really great. We moved in to the house expecting things to be in better shape than they were. We called them and they were prompt. The plumber was a bit young and inexperienced, but he was okay. He had to come back a couple of times, but I don’t think that was necessarily his fault. But the electrician that came out was really great. When he was doing what he was supposed to be doing, I asked him what he was doing and he stopped to explain it to me. He was very patient, very professional and right to the point of what he was doing. He had another job coming, but he didn’t push us out of the way. He gave us the time we needed.

They had a really low Yelp review, so it was a little weird to find out that I was getting that kind of provider in the first place. I requested from Home Shield to switch to another one, and Gulf Appliance was here within an hour. They diagnosed it and they weren't sure if it was the compressor or something else, so they ordered the parts and then came and fixed it later. American Home Shield's reps were very friendly and professional. I called them for my oven and my dishwasher, and they told me that they were gonna email me information, which was there when I went to my phone. They also told me that somebody would contact me about coming out and they did. Everything went smoothly.
The contractor checked out the oven, and they needed a part. They came back the next day with the part and put that in, and now, the oven is working. They thought they also fixed the dishwasher but I turned it on and it wouldn't complete the cycle. They decided that it needed a part. They tried to find that part but the appliances are original with the home, and they could not fix it. They had me call someone else and tell them. The only thing they asked me for was the width, and I gave them that. They told me that they would email me promptly, which they did. They emailed me with my options on which dishwasher I could get, then I picked the one I wanted. It was really easy.
The contractor was gonna come out and bring it today, which is really fast, but I have to work. So I made it 'til Monday. They were very prompt and polite. Everything was excellent. I wouldn't have been able to just buy another stove or get somebody out here that fast and have the money to do everything like that. I could have done it but it would have been a bump in my road. It was much easier just paying the 75 and the contractors came out and did everything. I don't have to worry about paying the installer or anything. All I have to do is be here. It's very valuable having this warranty.

Someone came out immediately after speaking with someone on the phone. Submitting the claim on my heater that way was easy and it was automatic. The contractor was great, but I'm appalled at what American Home Shield would take care of. I was under the impression when something like that happens that all I would be paying was the deductible. But once the quote came back, AHS would pay for the heater with a small amount, which was nowhere near what the system is going to cost to replace it. I had AHS years ago and I wasn't satisfied, so I went with another warranty company. They, too, were not good. I had an AC unit problem before, and it took forever for AHS to get somebody out here. I was out of town and my fiancee was at home. When I got back, the AC was still out. And it was hot. We had to go and get a hotel. So, I had to get the AC system repaired, and they reimbursed us the hotel.
Now, this heater is a whole new different ball game because I was under the impression that no matter how old the unit is they are not covered. Then, someone called me back rattling off the astronomical fees. That was awful. They haven't sent me an email on it with the breakdown to let me see what we were talking about. They knew from the beginning that this house was built in 1986, that what they advertise is they know that if something is old, it eventually is going to go out -- and that was why we bought a home warranty. So, I'm out of pocket. I paid $125 for this person to come out. Right now, I'm dissatisfied.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

Submitting claims through American Home Shield is very easy, and they let you know what is going on. When we had an electrical issue, they sent Fast Response Heating & Cooling. There was a burned smell coming out of the unit, and after I've turned it off, it burnt the controls. We didn't know what it was. So then I called AHS, and within 24 hours, they called someone. They called us and let us know that the dude almost ran out. He just pulled out in front of me. We went outside. And so, he saw it, but that problem led to another problem from the same thing being that what we had was going out. He fixed what we had and said, "That was just gone." He was letting me know what was going on. So, it was pretty good.

On September, Flowright said they were coming and that they would order part for the main valve, but they never did. I asked American Home Shield if I could I go to someone else because Flowright was very unprofessional. And then, the guy from LiveGreen Plumbing Services came and fixed the garbage disposal, but they said the valve has to be leaking and they'd try to get something done that afternoon. They somehow solved the issue. But Flowright, no. I didn't like their company. They said they'd fix the problem but they did not fix the valve. Since AHS was the one who hired Flowright, they need to know these contractors were probably lying just to get money but they didn't ever do what they had to do. I don't wanna be bothered by Flowright again.

We've made three or four claims and we've done them all online. Usually, American Home Shield will call me right after I schedule something just to see when they could get somebody out, but it's been kinda varied because it depends obviously on who's local and who's available. So, I've had a couple issues with a couple of the folks that they've sent out. They've had to send out somebody different, but as far as American Home Shield is concerned, they're always pretty on top of it. We recently paid one of the local HVAC companies, Cabot Mechanical LLC, to come out and do a heat check-up for the winter. They've been out here before they could come out and was planning to do the same thing for the AC unit so that we can run the AC during the summer, so we like them a lot.

The shower faucet control for hot and cold water didn’t work at all. You turn it on and it would be all cold, and later, it would be all hot, and then, sometimes, it just wouldn’t turn on. We had United Air Temp come three times for that same issue. For the first time, they put a cartridge in that mixes the hot and cold, and the faucet worked again, but it never got very hot. So on the third visit, the second plumber with United Air Temp adjusted the cartridge so that we could have hot showers. It just took a few tries to get it fixed.
United Air Temp was great. The only disappointment was that because of the way American Home Shield contract is set up, you have to call within a month to get a follow-up. A follow up shouldn't have to be within a month. I've seen the financial impact of that. United Air Temp would have called it the same service call and not charged us, but we did have to pay one more time to Home Shield. We were grateful that it was an easy fix. I thought it was gonna need a whole new piece, but it was just an adjustment.
The thing that I liked about United Air Temp is that when I make a service call with American Home Shield, I hear from United Air Temp immediately, and they schedule the appointment within 24 hours, and their person comes when they say they're gonna come. And except for that one detail, which was that they could have made it hotter the first time they put the cartridge in, everything else has been great. Another contractor that I've had through American Home Shield was for a refrigerator repair, and I didn’t find them to be as easy to work with. It was harder to communicate with them, and it took four visits to get the icemaker fixed. But they did it, and I only paid once for that.
I read reviews about home warranties and I looked at the Better Business Bureau, and I picked American Home Shield because of the feedback I got from a personal contact and from the reviews online. I'm very happy that we got home warranty, and I'm very happy that it is with American Home Shield. They are doing what they're supposed to do. The platform online seems to work for me when I need to make a request. The details of using them effectively is what I'm sort of learning how to do to make sure that I follow up in a short period of time.

The pump for the cleaner on my pool was making a screeching sound and the timer wouldn’t function right. It wouldn’t turn off. I love using American Home Shield's website because I can do it at any time, day or night. But in this particular time, I couldn’t exactly find what I was looking for on the options. But I ended up clicking on the right thing. Whenever they called me, they wanna know exactly what was going on. I think they weren’t really super clear from what I had clicked on either, but then when they called me to clarify, it was okay.
I was really impressed with the vendor they sent. The tech went out there pretty quickly and made a diagnosis. His communication was really good, and I always really appreciate that. He let me know that he went out there, and then he let me know he’d been out there and that it would be several days and he would get to it as quick as he could. And he got to it sooner than he said he would. The pump works great now, and there's no screeching.

I've been with American Home Shield for over 10 years. I like that if something is wrong with anything that I have covered, I can call them, and they'd send out reputable companies. The latest contractor that came out was Rapp's Heating & Air. They were excellent. I was impressed with the quality of the service, the fairness when I had them to come out for two different things, and when something wasn't covered, then I had to pay for it myself. And I felt that the price that they quote was very fair. They weren't trying to overcharge. AHS has a policy that if something breaks, they're supposed to replace it. You do have to kinda haggle with them about replacing it. That's the downside, but for the most part, I like them enough to continue. There are more advantages than disadvantages. I would recommend them.

I like AHS and I would recommend it. I already have four houses with them. Recently, a toilet flange was broken so I called AHS to submit my claim. Everything was fine with the rep. She sent the assignment right away, and I got a phone call the very same day from the contractor. He had to replace the toilet flange. I had several claims before with plumbing and there were other contractors assigned. There were a couple times that I wasn’t satisfied. But every time, when the contractor assigned is from Gettysburg Plumbing, I've had no issue. They always come do a good job.

I had a stoppage in the sink. I called AHS and it was fine with the rep but I feel like they’re trying to find ways to not pay the claim. It’s like right off the bat when you talk to them. They’re like, “Oh, that’s not covered in your policy,” or “Oh, that’s probably not covered in your policy. I’ll have to take a closer at your specific policy, but that’s not covered in most policies.” They were right that it wasn't covered but they were already jumping on whatever they can to not cover the claim.
They sent someone out and part of it was covered and part of it wasn't that I had to pay out of pocket. The contractor cleaned out the sink and suctioned out whatever was backed up. Then, he said that there was a pump broken and the pump needs to be fixed. He said he has to order the part. Then he went home and I didn’t hear anything. The house was still stinking. So, I called American Home Shield. Then, the company called and they said that that person is no longer with them and that the guy didn’t put in the information. They needed to send a whole new person out but they couldn't get anyone out until three days later. It was just a mess. The second guy checked for the part and checked with AHS who said that it wasn't covered. I individually worked with him and he kinda left a huge mess in my house. I'm not happy.
I also had another claim for the stove that stopped working. Moonstar Appliances came out and that one is fine, so far. They ordered a part which was covered and I'm still waiting. But I'm not gonna be using AHS again. I have a friend who told me that they used to have American Home Shield, too, and they switched to this other company that’s much better, more responsive, has faster response time, and that's not always trying to deny claims. So, I'm gonna go with that company next year.

American Home Shield has been very responsive. So far, so good! Everything is working well. It’s the third time that we’ve had to have our system fixed. So I’m hopeful that this time it’s right. I understand their business model, and I understand that they’re not looking to just give you a free air-conditioning system. It was frustrating because I don’t live in this house. This is a second home. So every time I came down, the system had failed again, which now, as we’re heading into the winter here on the East Coast, it’s a little scary. So every time I call AHS, they were immediately responsive, and they had someone here within a day.
I just need to know that there’s no shortcuts being taken and I just wanna know that it’s right. So I talked to the guy who came here. I said, “Listen, I don’t have an issue if this is something that’s bigger, a more expensive item, and I have to carry some of the cost, because it’s not every piece covered by American Home Shield. I just need to know it’s fixed right. That’s all I care about. And I’m happy to pay my fair share.” And he said, “No. This should fix it.” So I’m hopeful that this works. I asked him if there is anything else that could possibly go wrong with the system like the AC compressor. He said, “If it goes again, then they have to pick up the bigger expense.” I told him I’m happy to pick up my piece of it as well.
It’s a little difficult in my case because I’m not here all the time to see if it fails. So I go to the 60-day window. For the fifth time, I came back two days past the 60-day window and it failed again, and they waived the fee. So I appreciate their flexibility. When I submit my claims, everything’s almost been on an emergency basis. With the short timeframes I’m here, I usually prefer to do it over the phone.
My AC is working fine since the latest repair. I live up in New York, and the house is down in North Carolina. Because I’m concerned with the winter coming, I don’t care as much if I lose my AC. But during winter, you get frozen pipes. So I’m gonna make another trip down here in the December timeframe. Every time I’ve been gone, it popped after I left. If it’s not working, then it’s gonna become a really urgent matter. And I would get them on the phone, and hopefully, they’re very responsive to it. Every time I come down here and have a problem, as soon as they see New York tags on my car, the price is tripled what you would pay if you live down here. American Home Shield or any home warranty service takes that bias away, and that’s why I’m using a home warranty service.

cthere, it was left to the service provider to reach out to me. The contractors were professional, courteous and friendly, but it took four visits and two different companies to get the problem solved. The guy from the first company was really nice but I don’t think he was capable of pinpointing the problem. It had to be turned over to an entirely different company, and on the first visit, they identified the issue. They ordered the part, came out and then replaced it. That was yesterday, and it seems like everything is fine now.
It seems like American Home Shield goes with the low-cost service provider. I’ve had experience in the past where the company that came out clearly isn’t the best. An example of that is when our air conditioning unit went down and a gentleman showed up in an unmarked pick-up truck. He wasn’t really affiliated with any company. He was kind of an independent contractor. We had a Freon leak in our AC unit, and he just pumped it full of Freon then took off. So, it didn’t fix the issue at all even though I paid my deductible. And I don’t think he really knew how to isolate the problem either.
With a low-cost provider, American Home Shield will pay the lowest and then they’re gonna get more off the top that way. In this case, however, where it took four visits of two different companies to fix the problem, it probably cost American Home Shield more than if they had just sent out the right service provider in the first place and got it fixed the first time around. ‘Cause even though I paid my $100, American Home Shield still hasn’t compensated both companies for their service. Dollar-wise, it’s worth having that insurance - knowing that if I have an issue with an appliance or system in my house, that I can pay $100 deductible and effectively get that problem fixed. And American Home Shield is definitely a good option for folks if they’re looking for home warranty company.

A piece had come out of the inside of the dishwasher disposal and it was also leaking. I did the claim online and it was easy, and they were prompt in getting to me. Eddie came out and he was awesome. He did a wonderful job and he had been up here before about a year or two ago for a plumbing issue I had upstairs, and he was wonderful then too. Everything has been fine since the service.
It’s fine to put in a work order online, but any time I have questions, I’m on the phone forever waiting for somebody to pick up. It takes over 20 minutes. I’ve had to call in several times when I’ve had questions because I couldn't wait any longer so I had to call back. But the warranty is good for now. I’m a retired teacher so it’s nice to have. I also take care of an elderly parent, so it’s nice to be able to call in when you have an issue and not have to troubleshoot or go online and look for somebody and hope that they're gonna lead you in the right direction, and not overcharge you. When the warranty comes up for renewal, there are some things that I would like to take off of it that I’m paying extra for and I would like a notice about that.

Our American Home Shield claim with Service Contractors Plumbing went really well. We had a leak underneath our sink and my wife's brother is somewhat of a plumber guy, but he couldn't find anything. He would tighten the connections, but it was always wet down there and stuff started getting warped so I said, "Let me gamble $75 and see if AHS can get my sink fixed." The issue was just something the tech had to fix within the handle. For some reason, if you turn the water on, it would come out the handle. When we wash dishes or use the sink, the water would come out and drip down into the sink. No wonder we couldn't find anything underneath. All in all, it was a win.

RG Plumbing & Rooter came out but when I raised this issue with my original faucet company, Delta, they asked me not to put any lubricant as what was done by RG Plumbing. I'd have to call RG Plumbing back to replace the part rather than just putting the lubricant. The way it was done was not the standard way of doing it. Once I get the part, I'd call RG Plumbing back again because when I get done through the lubricant, my warranty from Delta will be over. So, I'm in this situation where it is 50% fixed because that was the max the contractor could do. After that, the RG Plumbing rep told me that he'll talk to the parts guy or replace it. But I called Delta and they told me that, "He should not have done that." But they're ordering me to send those two parts. So now, I'll have to call them again to replace that part.
RG Plumbing & Rooter should have replaced the part rather than do a temporarily fix. They told me, "This is a temporary fix. After one or two months, you will again have the same problem, so you need to replace this part." And because this was under lifetime warranty, Delta would be sending me the part. The AHS claims process was great. I called the contractor and he called me. It happened within a couple of hours, so it was fast. The claim was fine, but the execution was not good. The person who came should have handled the process in a different way.

However, the contractor couldn’t find any leaks. He said that it was potentially the tiles. It was missing some of its grout and the water was leaking behind the tiles. They said I've got 60 days to have them come out again so I’m keeping an eye on the watermark to make sure that it doesn’t get worse. But the last time I checked, which was at the beginning of the weekend, I hadn't noticed a difference. So far, the quality of service we've received from American Home Shield has been great.

One time, my refrigerator was on the fritz and was not cooling to the appropriate temperature. The temperature was going up in the refrigerator and the freezer simultaneously. I called in a claim to American Home Shield and had a good experience with their customer service reps.
Within a week, the tech AHS sent came. I requested the Sears guys as they're professional and knowledgeable. Some of the other jokers AHS has appointed locally have no idea what a wrench is, let alone how to fix something broken. On the other hand, Sears guys have to go through certain training programs. The guy from Sears came and diagnosed my issue. Then, he had to order parts and he came back. He replaced the motherboard for the refrigerator and freezer which was not easy to do because of where the parts are located. It took two whole weeks for my issue to be resolved. Still, it was a good experience. I'm satisfied with AHS and I'd definitely recommend them to a friend.

I had a refrigerator claim with American Home Shield and some plumbing as well. I've been with American Home Shield for several years, and I like that it’s all inclusive. It's just that if you wanna speak to them by telephone, it’s very difficult to speak with someone because they switch you to the Philippines. It’s hard to speak to an American. But a lot of the people in the Philippines were very good. They’re very helpful.
With my claim, the contractor was very good and very professional. It just took a long time to get the part. My claim was in July and I just got everything done last week and the week before. They had to order the part. Then they gave me authority to go out and find my own people, which I did. But then they didn’t wanna cooperate with American Home Shield. They didn’t wanna speak to them. So, right now, I'm out of pocket like $270, and I'm waiting to get reimbursed. And then they told me to go out and buy a refrigerator and they’ll give $60 towards a new refrigerator, which I thought was very nice.
As for the plumbing, I have very expensive plumbing like a showerhead. The showerhead is made out of brushed nickel, and the faucet. So, supposedly, all the parts weren’t available. They were Kohler products. So, a new one would’ve cost $1,400 to replace it, plus labor. So, under American Home Shield, they said, “We’ll cash you out. We’ll give you $250.” So, the plumber came and I got all the parts from Kohler and he installed everything for 250. Now, when I called the private plumber to come in, just the labor alone was $1,300. It was the same thing with my refrigerator. With the private people I called, the labor was like $2,000 to fix it, and a new refrigerator was $2,100, but then under American Home Shield, they found someone to fix it for $1,000. I'm happy with my refrigerator, so I'm very pleased. I certainly would recommend them, and I would certainly renew because it gives me peace of mind and security.

My only problem is that the deductible which is $100 is really high. I just got married about a month ago. My wife has American Home Shield and her deductible is lesser than mine. I had warranties before and this is the highest I have. Maybe I bought the most expensive one. I would point out to somebody to watch out how they buy the warranty ‘cause the deductible is high depending on what they buy. But AHS is a good company.

My furnace went out in 2017. I called AHS and paid for them to come out. At first, they told me it was gonna take a long time. It took me almost a week and I didn't have heat for a while. AHS then told me they were sending somebody from Jennings Station Rd, Air Authority. I told them not to send anybody to my house from there. I live in a very upscale area and Jennings Station Rd is the hood. I would not trust their judgment. AHS then told me that those were the only folks they could send to me.
That contractor sent techs that weren't in a truck with a company name on it. They didn't have clothing with a logo on it either. They had black rags on their head and they had gold teeth. They were so scary and looked like they were there to rob me rather than fix something. They were walking around my house and looking upstairs. That scared me until I called a friend of mine to come over to be with me. The techs couldn't put in the furnace and they called a third person over. That person still looked as bad but he helped them. They supposedly put my furnace in.
The furnace was working but I noticed that in two years, it was rusted. There is rust all over my floor. I kept calling AHS and I had to go through 90 degrees of dealing with them to find out why was my furnace rusting out. AHS then said that they would send me somebody to look at it. The contractor then said they would come out to look at my furnace but then I would have to pay them $75. I told them I was not paying $75 and that AHS would have to pay that because something was wrong.
A friend of mine who looks at furnaces said that something must be leaking or there was some condensation coming from somewhere 'cause my furnace wouldn't be rusting out like this. AHS sent Budget AC & Heating and their tech had to take the front off of it. When he did, he found that the previous contractor who sent techs that didn't look like they knew what they were doing drilled a hole through the furnace and that was causing the whole problem. He took the pan and the heating coil off and asked me if I wanted to see what the previous contractor did when they put my furnace in. He put a whole new everything and though my furnace still has rust, I shouldn't have any further rust after that.
Budget called me and said they’ll fix it but it’s gonna cost me almost $1,000 for modification. I said I just had the furnace put in and the modification should’ve been done. I went back and forth with AHS and had to write a letter to the CEO, the CFO, their customer complaint division and four other departments. I sent six letters in total to them and after all that I got a call from them and they said they would do it for free.
I called the City of Jennings police department to ask them for the previous company that did the installation of my furnace and they told me that there was never a business listed at the address I gave them and that there was never a company called Air Authority at that address. How could AHS send somebody to my house to put a furnace that doesn't even have a valid address. AHS hires people that have no knowledge of what they are doing. They are not bonded, licensed and are not even professionals in their field.
Rosa,
I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your experience with us. Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

I put in a claim online and it said, "We'll contact the contractor" but I didn't know if they were saying I needed to do it or they were going to. I went to the chat and they told me that they would be getting ahold of Hayco. As far as timeliness, friendliness and the repair people, Home Shield was great and they were very responsive.

The next day after our claim for the water heater was submitted, the J-Star Services technicians came out. They were timely and they did a great job. It was actually the second time that we had somebody come out because the water heater was leaking. But apparently, the thing had rusted through and it had to be replaced. While we gotta work on getting the drywall and the installation repaired, everything is fine now.

We've had American Home Shield for many years and everything's always been good when I've called. The claim regarding my icemaker in my freezer went very well. I love the technician. My icemaker made this horrendous noise, and then I had water on the floor. That was on a Friday, and then he changed the part on Monday. Both times, he was early. He had to replace some kind of a valve part, and now it's working fine. He gave me a window of what time he would be here, and he was at the very beginning of the window, which really surprised me 'cause that usually doesn't happen when you have people come and repair stuff, and I thanked him so much for that. It was an all-around good experience.

We’ve had a couple of issues with the house. We've had a breakage underneath the tub. AHS called a plumber out and they said it was not covered. I had no idea why it was not covered. They said, “The pipe was modified.” I said, “I just bought the house. There’s a valve that’s broken.” That was the very first issue, which affected my opinion of them overall. But since we've had Brown Air Conditioning & Heating, our experience has been good. They were absolutely fantastic with the calls, updates, notices, emails, the whole works. But the one I’m dealing with now is another plumber.
There was a blockage in the sink in the wash area, common drain line. I went online and filed a claim on a Thursday and a contractor came out on a Tuesday. It's a rental home and I have a tenant there, and no one from the service company called me. I knew when they were gonna be there, but I was expecting a call, like the diagnosis of the problem. What I got was an email afterwards. And they missed solving the problem because the reason why I called them was there was pipe breakage. They did unclog and they didn’t see any breakage. I gotta call them to confirm that they even checked it.

We had a plumbing issue and that time we were in the midst of having problems with evacuations and power but J & A Plumbing and Rooter still got back to me and set the appointment. The technician came out, and he was in and out in 30 minutes, and it couldn’t have gone smoother. It was very nice to have something that positive happening during that time. Submitting the claim was very simple.
I had a different warranty company the year prior after having a flood in my kitchen for my refrigerator, and I had a couple of claims that did not go smoothly with that company. I got to complaining about it to others and I'd heard so much about American Home Shield that I looked into it. It was less money for the year and I'm very pleased that I changed. The first night that I called, I didn’t realize that I could've called the 24-hour line for the claim, and I did have to wait ‘til Monday. But it wasn’t a big deal. I just learned that if I had pushed a different thing on the phone, I could have gotten somebody 24/7.

Everything went pretty good with my claim. It was for my washing machine, which was leaking out the front. I did the claim online and that was pretty easy. American Home Shield took my claim right online. The only thing was that they sent a text that said they would be calling to schedule an appointment but then they just sent me a text with the time. In my scenario, that worked out fine but I don’t know that that would work for everybody. In the past, I’ve had good and bad people come out for different home warranty companies. It really just depends who comes out. You get a lot of dishonesty in that type of business but the guy who came out from Shoreline Appliance was really good. He showed me how to access it since it was a pretty minor problem and it had happened before. He even showed me how to get to the menu to evaluate it. He was definitely honest too.

Original Review: Nov. 8, 2019
One time, when we turned on the heat, it wouldn't go on. We submitted a claim to AHS and they sent Air First Mechanical. The tech said that there were four lines on my unit and one wasn't lined up. So, when the heat would go on, it wouldn't go completely across 'cause that line wasn't lined up completely. He said that he fixed the issue but then, sometimes when we turn the heat off, it doesn't come back on. When my husband goes down and messes with the unit, it comes on again. I had another tech come out before Air First and the guy who came said that something needed to be replaced. So, I don't think Air First did a thorough job. and I'm not certain that the issue was resolved.
Additionally, I don't like how it takes so long for AHS to get someone out to my location. If it's cold outside, they should send someone immediately. Another time, my refrigerator went out and AHS sent techs who came and fixed it. It took them about three or four days. I kept calling them telling them that I'm diabetic and that I needed my medication cold. They didn't seem to care. I had to throw all my food away. Also, I was using my insulin that time when my blood sugar was so high and I realized that it was too warm. AHS should have someone on-call 24 hours a day.

My furnace for air conditioning was going off recently and I didn’t have any difficulties with the claim. Prior to this though, I’ve had many difficulties with American Home Shield. Customer service takes down your information and I don’t know what they do with it. Several times for my current information, it’s been put in the system and the information has been put in wrong or the old information has been left there which causes the workers to come out, but they’re calling the old telephone number. Then I’ve had instances with the people that they contract with not showing up for jobs, being very rude and disrespectful, but then still trying to charge for something that they did not show up to. I’ve been thinking about leaving American Home Shield because I don’t like the customer service. I feel like I’m paying for the service that they should have more loyal people for. It’s been a number of years now that I've been with American Home Shield and submitting a claim has to be the easiest thing. You just call in and go from there. You let them know what your issue is and they will call and text you. They let you know that it’s $75 upfront and then that’s it. If there's anything else, they let you know. Price Right Plumbing & Drain came out for a plumbing issue and said it was a line. They had to go into a main line that was part of where the faucet that lets off the water in the tub. They had to remove something and drill into that line. After that, everything was fine. They weren’t there long at all either. They had to leave and go get a part and then they came back. It took no more than a hour or if so, it was probably 15 minutes past the hour.

When I submit claims over the phone, I'm able to get through the process quickly. And American Home Shield is responsive to sending people out. However, lots of times, the companies you get are start-ups and are trying to build their customer base so you don’t always get the best technicians. Normally, the stuff gets fixed though. If you use AHS quite a bit on small things, you won’t get your return on it. But we got it primarily as a buffer for any big-ticket items that we might have like the AC and heat. It works well on that kind of stuff. We’ve been pleased with what we’ve got.

Oasis came and fixed the heater the first time. But less than 24 hours later, it broke. And then, they turned around and claimed that my heater was improperly installed. When they talked to the Home Shield representative, they told them that I had a flawed design, and then they told a different representative that they couldn’t fix it. Oasis called them as soon as they turned around and told me to call them to get a new guy out there. But because it was so cold, I went ahead and paid out-of-pocket and got somebody else to do it. I hired a guy on my own. It was Bryant Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, and they said there was nothing wrong with the machine. After that, I talked to the customer rep and explained. Our dishwasher keeps having an error. At first, it showed that it needed a new motor. The technician said that the dishwasher was fairly new but it was showing that it needed a new motor. So he explained it and then they put in a new motor. Then we were running it and it popped up another error and it quit running. The guy came out, and it said it needed a new board so he put in a new one. It was running like how it was set to run and then it just started beeping. When I opened it, there was this error code and it had stopped. The guy said that they were doing everything that it said and he was running it through. He also said that he would let Home Shield know about it and they would have to decide what they would want him to do with it. But I haven't heard anything since.
We’ve kept American Home Shield for years as we've moved around the country in other homes and they’ve always been excellent. They’ve always sent out good workers and have taken care of everything. Absolute worst experience I have ever had with a service company. They don't actually cover what they advertise, they misled us, lied about being denied service on our water heater due to "pre-existing" conditions, when the unit is 15 years old and anyone with a 15 year old water heater would know that EVERYTHING is pre-existing! Yet their salesman and their own advertising material clearly states they cover services at ANY AGE. Yet they actually LIED to us, as I spoke with the company that came out to our home and they told me that AHS actually told them, that we were denied due to contract being only 2 days old. We can't help the fact that our water heater started leaking at that time. So based on their "theory", let's say you buy a new car, get insurance, drive the car off the dealers' lot, and get into a wreck. So the insurance company going to deny the claim due to "only being under contract for 1 day?" NO. Worst company I have EVER dealt with.

Called first thing Monday morning to be told plumber was not available until Tuesday. Customer service could care less about the issue customer is going through. Asked to speak with supervisor; they declined to take the call. UNBELIEVABLE! Plumber finally comes out at 4pm on Tuesday to do a repair outside of what's covered. Same issue occurs 2 hours after they leave. Clearly their "fix" did not work.
Call the next morning and they do not come out until 5pm and then tell me replacement is needed. Told me that American Home Shield only authorizes repair with shoddy quality heater and to go with upgrade. Guess what, more $$ out of pocket. Have paid for this warranty for 6 years only to be out of pocket $1500. Save your money and bank it for these types repairs instead of paying this scam of a company that wouldn't know customer service if it hit them in the face. I am canceling our policy today. If I could put a zero I would. We have been dealing with a septic problem for over 3 weeks now since reporting to AHS. First contractor no showed. They wouldn't assign another one until they too could not reach them. Second contractor came out, did not do the free pump, diagnosed as a broken pump, and never submitted quote (All Pro Septic). We have been on phone with AHS for 12-15 calls equaling hundreds of hours, and they continuously read from same script. The rep says they need to call All Pro and get Dx and cost prior to the next step - we are in this loop for 2 weeks now - contractor is not submitting and AHS rep will not let us talk to manager or Options Specialist. Our own septic people will charge way less than what their contractor quoted at $1200. We want AHS to give us the Cash Out option that one rep explained to us, but they won't transfer you to that department unless it's closed.
I repeatedly asked to talk to a manager after being told on at least 4 separate calls spanning one week to call back in a few hours to allow contractor a chance to submit, and they would not transfer, rather put me on a dead hold with no music. AHS has terrible customer service. They want your money but sure do not want to help an issues THAT IS COVERED BY MY PLAN. They also need to have more reputable contractors. If the contractor will not submit, AHS has to have a next step. I truly feel as though they are waiting for our plan to expire. I have never dealt with this bad of service in my life, especially when it is dealing with a major issue in our home that we have paid to have coverage for.

Anyone considering AHS should read the fine print in the contract and make sure that they are very much aware of what is and what is not covered and what the exceptions are. When I had an issue with my water heater, it wasn’t covered because what was causing it to malfunction had to do with the venting to the outside. I was pissed because why am I paying for a warranty if when I need to use it, there's gonna be some little exception. I didn't understand why venting wasn’t covered. I paid $50 a month for it, they didn't help me with the first thing that I needed. It wasn't a very good first experience, but the experience with my microwave was a lot better.
There was something that looked like lightning bolts happening in the microwave. It was charring some of the food. And it started making these weird, crunching sounds. The weird part was that when the technician took it apart, he couldn't find anything wrong with it. He also ran it a bunch of times, but couldn't replicate the problem. Then later that day, it happened again. American Home Shield is now gonna replace it. They offered me something and it’s supposed to be installed in the next week. I put the order in on Sunday and I was told it would take five to seven business days. When I call AHS, I usually have to wait a long time and then I get somebody who can’t speak very good English so I found that submitting claims online is a lot easier.
Your feedback about both of your American Home Shield experiences is more than appreciated. I hope you continue to enjoy many more good experiences.

I thought it was a claim that Home Shield should've honored but they didn't. We started off on the wrong foot undoubtedly but I've had the warranty for about 3 years now.
In a recent claim, my faulty hot water tank had to be replaced and After Hours Plumbing & Pump Service was the assigned contractor. Because of where the tank was and the damage that had occurred structurally, I had to pay to have it disconnected so I could make the structural repair. After Hours said they couldn't come and detach it then come back and install the new one. They could only make one trip. So, I had to pay somebody to do that. I know that Home Shield doesn't do structural work and I don't know what my options were, but that's the best they could do. I also was not satisfied with the timeframe for them to come out, but I didn't have any choice. I was without the hot water tank for 2 days. Other than that, I had very good interactions with After Hours.

Our dishwasher had a problem where when we would run it, there was water and one could hear it go but it wasn’t pretty much washing the dishes. A guy from Sears came out and he was awesome and super helpful. The communication about coming out was great as well. In his first visit, he did ticket the problem that it needed a part. Then he came back with the part and tested it, which we were really grateful. The part didn’t do what it was supposed to do so he investigated further and there was a wire that was dysfunctional. He fixed that and then tested it. The dishwasher ran and it has been running since. We also had called on another incident and that wasn’t such a great experience, but Sears wasn’t the one who provided the service. With the dishwasher experience, Sears was phenomenal.

One time, my dryer wouldn't run. The load would still be wet and my husband couldn't get it back on. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and they sent All Brands Appliance. The tech fixed the issue very quickly during that visit. It didn't take him very long at all to figure out what it was. Since then, the dryer has been fine. I’ve been happy with AHS so far. My first claim with them was a major debacle ‘cause it ended up being two things. We called for what we thought was one and it caused more problems, so it was a very extensive endeavor on our part. But that was no one's fault. This time our claim was very smooth and seamless.
That is what we like to hear Phyllis. I am happy that we ere able to resolve your claim. We look forward to handing your warranty needs. Have a good week.

I had an issue with the refrigerator a couple of weeks before, where it didn't seem to hold temperature. The icemaker wasn't making any ice. American Home Shield replaced the icemaker and it worked, but they didn't resolve the issue of the refrigerator not holding temperature. So, I had to file a second claim and pay a second deductible to finalize it. And it costs $75 each time you do that. It could have been resolved in one claim rather than two. Sometimes, with their requirement for saying that it's a different claim, it feels like you're getting nickel and dimed.
The technician said it was a coolant leak up in the housing of the refrigerator, which couldn't be repaired without destroying the equipment because it's a sealed unit. So, he diagnosed that it was unrepairable. American Home Shield gave replacement options but I decided to take cash in lieu of a replacement unit because they were on sale at Lowe's, so I was able to get a better refrigerator than what was offered. They said it could take a week to get approved, and then, we should be getting a check within 21 days.

I like American Home Shield's online claims submission, and their overall claims process is very good. However, I tried to add the dryer to a claim I did for my washer but the site wouldn’t let me click on anything else. That was strange because it was gonna be the same vendor coming out and they could check the dryer too. On a claim I did for the plumbing, it allowed me to add multiple things. I'm also paying an extra $10 a month for our hot tub spa but when I tried to submit something on it, it's not in my list. Nevertheless, we're very happy that Todd’s Appliance fixed the washer and everything was timely.

American Home Shield offered a service for 75 bucks to service your heater system. The guy who came was polite, on time, a jovial guy. He seemed to know what he was doing and checked the system out. It all went accordingly well. There are some things going on nationwide regarding Freon and I used the information he gave me to start my investigation. Everything that I’ve had done was done appropriately. I’ve had work done on my microwave my house and my second home. I also had work done on my washing machine here at my primary residence. I had a faucet system at the washroom and a toilet clogged up. Overall, my AHS experience has been really positive.

I reported what I thought was a water heater leak, and it turned out to be a hose leak instead. I was happy to see that it was not the water heater and it's just a water leak. However, when the contractor who performed the service was about ready to leave, I went back to the door where the water heater is and it was still spurting water. He said, "No, no, no, I haven't finished yet." And I said, "Well, I hope not." But that didn't go well. He was very discourteous and he basically threw the bill on my face. I complained about him to Home Shield but I don't know what came of it as I've never heard anything back. I also called his boss and I haven't heard back from him either. While the leak has stopped, that was not a good experience.
In another claim, Anthem Mechanical of Palm Springs performed a preseason checkup and everything went fine. I was a little surprised he did it so fast. He was only here for a half an hour so I questioned him on it and he said, "Well, I'm early because you don't have a lot of stuff on that furnace that normally would take some time." And that was acceptable. He seemed very professional and he did a fine job.

We had American Home Shield added to our home when we purchased it in 2016. We have found benefit in it and we auto-renew every year, and we are gonna keep it as long as we own our home. We had an issue, though, because when we submitted a claim for the washing machine, we didn't hear anything for two weeks. I called them back about it and they said they were gonna try and contact somebody else because the rest of the people who usually come to this area were booked out until the middle of November. My washing machine was on the fritz, and with my children, my husband and myself, I’m not gonna go to those laundromat when I don’t have to.
So, they contacted a company out of Red Oak, who then called me and were here within an hour. They told me about trying to see something if it would fix the issue, and then called me back within a couple of days later saying they were going to order a part. They called me on the day that it was in and asked to have it installed. They were prompt and courteous, and they took care of the issues very quickly.

American Home Shield had it on their website that they do this service and it was reasonable. So I called them and they sent New Phase Comfort Heating & Cooling, one of their air conditioner persons. The guy and I, however, were on the wrong page. I should have called him, and I was waiting for him to call me. Then, I went back on this website and I thought, "Well, I needed to call him." It was my fault. And so I called, and he came right out the same day. He was on time and he cleaned neatly. He checked everything out and said that it is a good unit and it is well taken care of. He did a excellent job and I really liked him. I got his card, so whenever I need to work on my unit I am going to ask for them. We were concerned we had a gas leak so I requested for service online and AHS's website was good. It really was easy to navigate and I do like that I can just submit the claim online instead of having to call and be on hold. After I submitted the claim, somebody called me within 24 hours and arranged the time, and they told me when to expect somebody to come out. The gentleman from Dahn AC and Heating that came out was nice. He came by to look at the furnace and we did not have a gas leak. He was quick and he did a good job. The interaction was a positive one and the service was good. We felt safe that we didn't have a gas leak and that we could turn on the gas or the burner without worrying about the house blowing up. I'd tell others that I've had a good experience and that they should consider using AHS.

I've had AHS for 10 years and they’re fantastic. They're quick to acknowledge my concerns. Recently, both my toilets in the house were whistling every time they flushed and I had a problem with the on/off knobs of my showers in both bathrooms. One of them was completely stripped and wouldn’t open, and the other one was so tight, you needed a bodybuilder to turn it on. There was also a leak in one of my faucets. I submitted my claims with AHS and they sent out Heros Plumbing Service. American Home Shield had them come to my home before on a couple of other things and they were very friendly. They sent two people who took care of the issue and explained everything that they did. I was very impressed.
Other than that, whenever I had a claim to submit, I’d rather speak to somebody at AHS because I ran into a difficulty earlier this year when I was trying to do it through the prompt on the phone and it didn’t pick up one of the concerns that I had transmitted. There were two issues for the same area and it only recorded one. And I ran into a problem when the contractor came out. They said that there was only one issue, not two, and when I called American Home Shield, they told me I would have to make a separate service call for the other issue. I had to explain to them that I placed the claim for the two issues at the same time but in the end, it was resolved in my favor and they didn’t charge me another service fee for the second issue. So, I've been impressed with American Home Shield and I have no complaints.

I wasn’t getting any heat at all in my home. I called AHS and they sent JE Johns out. I initially called AHS and scheduled them to come and check out my boiler, to fix it, but I got a email saying that they had a special going on, that they would do a tune-up to see if anything was going on with my boiler. I called AHS and I cancelled my schedule for them to come out and fix the boiler. The rep that I spoke with said that they would go over it and if anything was wrong, they would fix it. So, they set up the appointment. When the technician came out, he verified something was wrong with my boiler, but he said he would not fix it, which was troubling because the AHS rep said it would be fixed. So, I still have an issue with my boiler. But JE Johnson did a thorough job with the heating issue. I contacted AHS and they said they would listen to the phone call but I haven’t heard back from them. I called them last Friday and I haven’t heard anything back.
I apologize for the inconvenience Omarr. I can understand your frustration with trying to get your boiler installed. My name is Stacy and I've emailed.

NW Sundance Services worked on my toilet three different times now. The first time, they replaced the stopper, and then it started doing it again. And then the second time, they came out and they replaced the flapper and the fill valve, and it was doing better. Recently, out of the blue, it started running every eight minutes. When the guy came from the contractor came out, it did not do it anymore. It was very frustrating. He sat there patiently waiting for it to do it. Then he replaced the flapper and he used some of my cleaner and put it in the tank, and it was not leaking under the tank or into the bowl. Now, it seems to be okay.
This particular tech also always offered to do something for additional charges. He said, “The next thing would be to replace all the gaskets, and since it’s not doing it right now, if it starts doing it again, you can call me back out. But for $80, I can go ahead and take care of all of that for you, and you won’t have to worry about a second service call.” I said, “You know, that is why I have the home warranty, so I don’t have to come up with those extra costs.” The first time he came out, there was the water heater and the garbage disposal, and it seemed like everything was another, “Oh, but for this, I could do more.” The second guy that came out did not do any of that. Nevertheless, overall, American Home Shield is responsive on things, but they don't have very many people in the area to service appliances. I’ve had some appliance issues and it had been difficult to get things taken care of. They are working on them now, but it took a few different phone calls.

We had no air conditioning and while we have the American Home Shield coverage, we also have coverage through a local company, Haines HVAC, and they’re usually out within about four hours. That was not my experience with American Home Shield. There were times when it was gonna be fours days before somebody was gonna get to me. I can’t have in a vacation home where somebody goes there for a week, and four days they’re sitting there in extremely hot temperatures. But it has gotten better with AHS.
Integrity, AHS' contractor came to look at the system, and they said the condenser was shot they needed to replaced it. They would cover that but they would charge $500 to refill it with the new coolant. Haines HVAC said the same thing, that the condenser was shot, but they would not charge for the new coolant. They also offered some help with the new system. We could have refused it but we would have paid more through Integrity and Haines is kind of a backup coverage with American Home Shield where I need somebody I can trust that’s gonna be there in a very timely manner especially on something like air conditioning in Florida. But Integrity was fine. It was just they didn’t cover as much.
We've been with American Home Shield for several years. We have an older home so unfortunately for them, we’ve used them quite a bit. With our water heater claim, they said they would replace it but I could have the option of cashing out. If I was gonna cash out, they were gonna give me $440. If I got somebody else to do it, it was gonna be almost $700. Sometimes, the buyout option is not very attractive because they’re not giving you enough to really cover what you would need. AHS doesn't pass along to their customer what they’re actually saving, unless that is actually what they’re saving. It doesn’t seem fair unless you’re getting the work done. There are no other options. And so, it’s not as attractive as some of the deals that you can work out with other people.
Then their price went up significantly. But I’m not canceling their service. It is nice with American Home Shield. Before, when I first started with them, I really had to call them and I could be on hold for an hour and 15 minutes to get through to a person. And now, it’s pretty simple. I can do it on my smartphone. I go in and put what it is. They’ve made a lot of changes and I've talked to them when I've had issues.
Your feedback to American Home Shield is more than appreciated. I am glad to hear about the additional coverage that assisted with the repair and I hope you continue to enjoy!

The garage door was going up and down but it was not closing. When I pressed the button on the doorway, it flapped open back and forth until finally, it went down. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the guy who came out was prompt and professional. He was in-and-out and he did a great job. So, no problems there but I had one with DC Plumbing. I had a pipe leak that got into my closet and the floor was flooded as well as the hallway. DC came out, looked at it and said that they couldn’t tell what it is and where it’s coming from. They would have to have sonar come in but I have to put in a request to American Home Shield. Then, they dropped the ball and I never heard from them again.
When I called the home office and spoke to a customer rep, they said that they filed a report that the problem was in my garage and it was leaking, which was totally false and inconsistent with what was going on. It was like they were at a totally different house and I have no idea where they got that report from. That was my first claim, so that was kind of a turn-off. I had to call an outside plumber and he came out and said that same thing that the guy from DC Plumbing said. There would be sonar involved but before he left, he took a look at it again. He said it looked like it was coming from the next-door unit. My son, who’s not a professional, but has installed telephone equipment and knows layouts in homes said that it looked like it was coming from the neighbor’s bathroom because they’re back-to-back.
From Wednesday to Saturday, it was unresolved and I had water pumping into my home. I was getting nowhere with American Home Shield with the DC Plumbing and when I called to talk to them, DC had nothing to do with plumbing. It was only with the electrical issue with the heating and gas. So I got ran around on that first try in fixing it. Finally, on Saturday morning, the neighbor said that there was water underneath her toilet. So, it was fixed and that was what it was. I was dissatisfied with the way that first case was handled but it eventually got resolved and I was able to get my reimbursement from AHS for my payout in both plumbing situations and that kinda eased the pain. But another thing I didn’t appreciate was the language barrier when I called the customer service at American Home Shield. Although the reps were courteous and very professional, most of them were kinda hard to understand.
Your feedback about American Home Shield is more than appreciated. I hate to hear about your experience to have the plumbing leak repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

We had a problem with our air conditioner. We are new homeowners and we had it on since we moved in August. But the weather got lovely so we shut it off for a couple of weeks. When we went to put it back on, it never kicked in. We couldn't get the fan to do whatever it was supposed to do. The same was true of the heat and everything else. We didn't know if there was a problem with the thermostat controlling the unit or where the issue was.
My husband submitted a claim for it online. He found the with American Home Shield site acceptable as he did not mention any issues or concerns. But it ended up taking a little while for a contractor to come out. My husband was away on business and didn't have access to the internet. There were several delays that I don't think were necessarily the business response side of things.
When the contractor came, he seemed fine and the problem was an easy fix. Our float switch was just stuck, so it needed to be reset which was a very small thing. I had hoped that he would've been more forthcoming about how we can fix that ourselves in the future, but he wasn't. That was something that I had to look up and it is very easy to do. Other than that, everything has been working exactly as it ought to be. It was a great experience.

The tech was nice and courteous and he wore little booties so he didn't mess up my house. I got what I needed and it worked just fine.
Although I've had a couple of things that Home Shield didn't cover that wound up costing me a fair amount of money, my experiences with them have been mostly satisfactory. AHS is fine for someone who doesn't have time to deal with finding somebody to fix things and who can afford that monthly fee and the $75 co-pay at the beginning or if that person have time and patience to deal with finding service people and patience. I had a claim and I had a problem when the initial guy came and didn’t fix the problem. He said he was gonna report it, but I didn’t realize he just could not do it. AHS had to refer me a second contract.
The second contractor came in and said the first one didn't do it and that he was gonna order the parts. But there was a miscommunication. I thought he ordered the parts. I waited for two weeks and nothing happened. So, I called AHS and found out AHS ordered the parts. They delivered the parts to the contractor and the contractor came back. We changed the garbage disposal, but it still wouldn't work. He said, "Now, it's gotta be the switch." He called a supervisor and the supervisor showed him how to bypass it and everything is working perfectly now. He knew exactly what he was doing. I love him. If it happens again, I'd send him back. That claim went okay. It's just that for every small stuff that happens, I gotta pay the $100 service fee.

I love American Home Shield. My experience with them has been great. I’ve been with them for about five years, and they’ve gotten better. When I first started with them a couple of years ago, the customer service wasn’t that great. But they’ve really gotten better with the customer service. The contractors that have come out to my home were topnotch. Even if something is not correct at the first time, they're very kind enough to send them back depending if they're dealing with the same situation. I like them. I’m pleased. They were polite, very professional and very thorough.

Jed came to fix up the tap on the sink. They checked for the filter, but they didn't find the filter, so they replaced the whole tap system. I also had a tap issue with the bathtub. The tap wasn't properly closing, so the showerhead wasn’t getting enough water. So they replaced that tap thing because it was a little bit too thin. And when the main bathroom sink wasn’t working and the water wasn’t draining properly, they cleaned that up. They are super nice and pretty professional. They take care of everything and whatever I needed. They came timely manner, and they listened to my problems. They did everything correctly. So, I’m pretty happy with that service.

When something goes wrong, you can call the service and within 24 hours, you have the response. You're not looking around for somebody to fix the things yourself, and you know they're gonna send somebody good out. Also, the contractors are very professional. I recommend AHS to everybody.

We had a leak in the pipe in the basement. I called AHS and I spoke directly to one of their people. The rep gave me a confirmation number and then I went ahead and called the contractor, BNK Plumbing, with my confirmation number, and they came out right away. We’ve had them out before and they were really great. They’ve fixed our water heater and a toilet issue we had years ago. We also had them install a new faucet, but that wasn’t covered. We’ve had lots of experiences with them and they’ve always been great.

Edwin from Optimo Air and Heat came out. He was excellent, professional and took care of everything promptly. He did a fantastic job. The claim was for some type of pressure switch inside the AC unit. He analyzed it, checked it out, and replaced the pressure switch. Everything’s good after that. American Home Shield is excellent. Submitting the claim with them was pretty efficient and easy. I called because it was a heating issue. We’re having kind of a cold snap coming through. Optimo Air had been out on a previous call them, and I was gonna make sure and ask them if they could send the same person back out. Because if he had done some service work on it before, it’s probably best for the same person to work on it again. They’re familiar with it.

I called the phone number of AHS for reporting that I had a problem with the sump pump that they use for when you have a bathroom down in the lower level. Everything was great with the rep I spoke with and after they got my 75 bucks, they sent the plumber out. When he came in, he brought a young fellow who was just learning. He was sitting on the bucket and he was teaching this younger fella how to do what they needed to do with my sump pump. It has been in there for 30 years since I built the house and it was filthy. It was horrible and it's used for a toilet. The toilet goes in there then it pumps everything up to the septic system. So this pump is not just for the water. It's also for septic stuff and it's a special sump pump.
When the techs were here, they pulled it out and it was dripping all over the place. And the younger guy was gonna walk out through my basement, up my stairs, then out the front door and walk through my hallway with this thing dripping. But the guy that was training him told him that they needed to cover it so it would not be dripping. So everything was fine and I was glad that I didn't have to do it.
Then the plumber looked at the pump and said it was not gonna be just a $250 or $350 job. He said that he had to go back and see if AHS would cover it, so he went back out into the car and called American Home Shield to see if they were gonna cover the unit as it is. He got the okay to charge more money, which was $900, and in the end, the service cost me $75. But I sell the policy because I'm a realtor and I tell my customers that they ought to have it. Maybe that's why AHS gave me the deal.
Other than that, they also replaced a water heater with the service and that was good. That water heater was in there for a long time, too. By now, they've done two things on that dime that I spent for my American Home Shield policy and I don't have anything else that can be done under that policy. I'm paying by the month and now that there's nothing more that I can get out of it, I was wondering if I could cancel it. I'll check with the gal that takes care of us, but I'm pretty sure you gotta keep paying even though they've done the job. I got my money's worth out of it, though.

I’m a real estate agent and I always recommend it to my people, to my clients that I worked with. My experience with the garage door claim was perfect. The online process was easy. I put the order on Sunday morning and the guy called me first thing Monday to talk to me about what the issue was so that it didn’t delay time for him to have to come out and then not have the part he needed. Then we set up a time. He came prepared, fixed it, and it was good to go.

The contractor responded right away for the washing machine. His service was great. He had the part and replaced the sensor for the vibration. This claim was easy to do. But the washing machine almost never goes through a cycle without stopping multiple times because the vibration trips. This machine was in the house when we got here in the house. If you go online and you look at this model, a bazillion people have this problem. It can never be fixed. Samsung's official line is, "Well, you know, it's still gonna go out of balance now again. I'm sorry, you put a small load in there and it goes out of balance. It takes six hours to do the laundry, so you gotta remember to look and see if it stops." So I didn't pursue any further. I'm not going to pay $75 again to get somebody to come out again when the product is faulty. We figured we're gonna buy a new washer when we have the money.
We would love to hear more about your experience in an effort to resolve your issue. I've emailed you in an effort to assist with a resolution. I look forward to assisting you.

Hebert Plumbing Contractors came out and they did a really good job. They replaced the toilet ring. It’s like a seal that wasn’t working right. It cracked and that was where the leak was. They said the issue was just the ring. They even called me in there to show me it was all black around it and everything where they said that it looked like sewage was coming back up. But my husband said that might have just been mold too. They offered to clean the black around the bottom under the toilet. They took the toilet off and asked if I had a cleaner so they could clean it for me. While they had it off, they cleaned it all up, asked for a trash bag and threw everything away. I was impressed with the care that they took and everything that they did.
They really did take extra care after for the trash, but they didn't want any protection. They said, “Our hands are already in it. Just give us the stuff and we’ll clean it all up for you.” And that really was above and beyond. I haven't had anybody take that kind of care yet, so I was really impressed with them. But the other two that have come out before them really sucked.
I just renewed and this is my second year with AHS. I was a little disappointed because I’m still working on two claims from before I renewed, so I’ve been a little upset because it has taken so long to get things settled. And I’ve got one that’s still ongoing. The dishwasher was one that I had done from the very beginning. They came out, didn't fix anything, and I just got so frustrated that I just didn't call anybody back out. I paid for that twice now for it to get resolved. I’ve called and called, and nobody ever knows anything when I call. They always tell me to be patient and I've been patient. It has been going on since before July and it’s November now. It's ridiculous.
I found out that with one of the claims, AHS was supposed to replace the item and nobody ever contacted me. When I got this last person, I asked to speak to a supervisor. Of course, they never wanna give you the supervisor. So, he did a bit more digging, and he found out that I was supposed to be getting the item replaced. He was the one that took the extra step to make sure I got to that person. So, when I talked to that person, I said I called and called, but they said that I wasn't in the right department. I said, “It shouldn’t matter. The note that you have that you’re replacing the item should be available to everybody that pulls up this account. Because if I’m calling and I’m not getting to the right place, it’s not my fault. Somebody needs to be able to see those notes that you guys have made that you’re replacing the item. I should’ve gotten to the right person months before I did.”
They said they sent me an email, but I never got it. Apparently, they sent that out in September and I never got it. So, I’ve wasted two more months of waiting. But I’ve called several times since then. It could’ve been resolved a lot earlier if those notes would've been available. Somehow, whatever notes, whatever their department, is doing is not available to the other. That was what they kept telling me, but it shouldn’t be that way. If you pull up an account to look at it, somebody should’ve known earlier that I was not in the right department and transferred me over.
It was all disappointing that it could’ve been resolved a lot earlier and it hasn’t been. And then the other one is still ongoing. They just told me that the guy has had the part for a month and he has never called me. And I’ve called and left messages for him. So, it was a big relief to have the plumbing one fixed so effortlessly. I was really on the fence before the plumber came out. The plumber got AHS up a notch.

AHS's claims process was really easy. All I had to do was call in and talk to the rep, who did well. The contractor who came was very professional. He ran a spin, listened to the washing machine, pushed and pulled the basket and then made his diagnosis. It took about 15 minutes. The whole basket had gone out. There was a bent spindle and he told me that it would cost more to fix it than to replace the washing machine. Rather than mixing and matching our washer-dryer, we bought a similar washer. It's a newer model but with the same features. Its color matches and we were able to use the same drawer underneath it. It was in the $1,098 range. The replacement got installed yesterday and we have to submit the receipt. All in all, I have no complaints.

By September the installed part failed and my machine began leaking all over my laundry room causing damage to the surrounding area. AHS was called again to repair the machine. After this was done, the machine got replaced. Yay! However, they refused to fix the water damage to my home due to original faulty repair.
AHS is stuck on secondary damage and not being responsible for damage caused by contractors. Currently I am working with the BBB, but I get the same response from AHS over and over. AHS why is it my responsibility to fix that you have caused to my home? Why aren't you compelling your contractors to fix damage they caused and pushing lawsuits against them for the cost?

I've been with AHS since last year and their reps are polite and professional. The people who came for my dishwasher were wonderful and got the unit repaired perfectly. Some panel had to be replaced. One lady was asking me questions about the size over the phone but I was off to somewhere else. Eventually, I found the manual, and she sent me an email. So that was very pleasant.
Now, I have a built-in microwave that’s not working and I have cabinetry around it. American Home Shield sent me three options and I’m scared I’m gonna buy something that doesn’t work in this spot. AHS said that once I make the choice, it would be mine. I have a couple of friends who said not to let AHS do anything with my cabinetry 'cause they’d send me something that wouldn't fit but it would be mine. I have thirty days to figure this out. I don’t know what I’m going to do because I can’t have a kitchen looking like a hot mess. I haven’t called American Home Shield back because it seems to me that somebody who knows what they’re talking about should come out here first. And I wish I had another option to call somebody who would say, “This is exactly what you need.” Nevertheless, I'm satisfied with AHS.

I called one number and AHS' system transferred me to another number and they handled everything from there. The rep sent me an email. I followed up in writing with AHS and did a follow-up call the next day to make sure that they received what I wrote. The rep I spoke to took all my information again over the phone 'cause she didn't receive the email I sent. Now, my dishwasher is ordered and it should take about 10 days to come in.
I've been with AHS for 24 years and they started out very good. Over the course of the years, my experience has been horrible. Our furnace broke in the winter and I probably went two months without heat trying to work with them. The same thing happened again with another furnace that we have in another room. We have two properties and I have this one property that started out at $41, and now it has jumped to $45, and I don’t know why because I’m seeing some other home warranty companies that are starting to get a little less. AHS pricing has to come down a little.

American Home Shield's online process is really easy and functional. It's just annoying that every time I had to make a claim, the website takes me to a new log-in page even though I'm already logged in. But once I'm logged in the second time, it actually works well. I just say what I want and I usually get a call within an hour from the service provider. The latest one I had, At Your Pool Service, was fantastic. I'm impressed with their timeliness, friendliness and courtesy. They're also flexible and they do a great job.
However, I also had a few companies that were really crooked. I wouldn't trust them in my house by themselves with my wife. I had people come out for the garage door, which was a negative experience. Sometimes, I'm also not happy with AHS' coverage. They charge me $75 to send somebody out to fix something then tell me it's not covered even though I told them which part was broken. But then, with a few really bad experiences, all of a sudden there would be one where they buy me a new fridge or a new heater, and the whole year is paid for. I cancelled them once and went with a different company but they completely sucked. They were fraudulent and they promised all kinds of things, but then everything was divided into fractions, like covering only 10-15% of the value. American Home Shield doesn't do that. They're a good company.
Good Morning Dirk,

There was leaking water, and the technician who came out solved the issue and fixed it. Submitting the claim was easy. It went great.

We filed a claim with a plumbing company. They had to come in and cut holes in the wall to get to the pipes to repair the plumbing, and they didn't fix the drywall. So AHS had to submit to another company for the drywall. After the service was complete, the drywall company contacted us. The contractor was great. It was the actual drywall company that informed us that the only thing they did was they put the piece of drywall back in the wall, and they put mud around it, and that was it. And we were told that we had to finish the job. We had to wait for it to dry, put more mud on it, wait for it to dry, put more mud on it, fan it down, and then paint it, which we were unaware of. American Home Shield didn't tell us that.
We have a house that, putting the term in the most legitimate way, was built by crackheads. Everything since we have moved in has been, one by one, falling apart. And as a family of five with one income, AHS seemed like the best option with everything that's constantly going wrong. My father in-law gifted it to us. He paid the first year and said, "You guys need this after everything that's going on." AHS has been excellent. Everything has been great.
Chelsey,
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

I was having issue with a refrigerator, the icemaker stopped working. We hoped it would get better and it didn’t, so we finally made a claim to American Home Shield and the contractor from Palmetto Appliance went out. He said the issue was the motherboard and the freezer was broken. He had to order the parts and it took four days or so. Within a week, he had the whole thing fixed. He was great. Palmetto Appliance has repaired another item or two for us since we’ve been here, and they’ve just been fantastic.
We’ve had a couple of problems with heating and air conditioning, and it doesn’t seem like AHS has a handle on vendors in our area. It has been sort of sketchy on that. Our air conditioner completely died on us last summer when it was 100 degrees outside. The first appointment was two weeks, and then the contractor cancelled on us. It was not pleasant. So, we finally had to pay somebody to come out and do it even though we paid for the service because it had to be done. But the other stuff that has nothing to do with heating and air, AHS's service has been great.
Good Morning Sherrill,

When I have a claim, I either call AHS or do it online and both of which are pretty fast. Recently, the washer wasn't going through the cycles properly, so I went on their website. I selected from preselected options then sent my request on it. It took me about three minutes. Then they sent out a tech from Optimum Appliance Repair. He was polite, got the work done, and came back on the same day to finish it. But in the past, I've had a couple of bad contractors which I've let AHS know about and they have promised never to assign them to my house again. They kept that promise and have generally allowed me to preselect the contractors that I like, assuming their schedule was available.
Good Morning Cornell,
We strive to provide you with a great team of contractors and an even better customer service experience. We hope you continue to enjoy your AHS warranty!

There were no problems with the AC claim where Delton's Heating and Air Conditioning came. That was resolved quickly. I stopped American Home Shield because I have another home in another town, Raton, New Mexico, and there was a more serious issue, electrical fire, and they couldn't find anyone to dispatch out there to take a look at it. The other thing was that I was paying every month and $100. I could've had any HVAC guy go out for the same amount of money. I don't have to keep paying this copay. So I decided that it was not really gonna suit my purposes anyway. AHS should have a wider scope or network of technicians and if there are none in the particular area, then I should've been told they didn't have anybody or enough participating contractors in the area. I felt like I spent $300 on these monthly payments, and I got no return for my money.
Amanda,
I am sorry that we were not able to offer a resolution that you were pleased with while the contract was active. We hope this experience does not deter you from considering AHS in the future for your home warranty needs.
