The dishwasher wouldn't stop running. There's no water and the motor kept going. LA Appliance Service was sent out and they had to replace a part. They had to come back to complete the service, but the overall time frame was good. I have two dishwashers and it was annoying but lucky for me, because I'm used to not leaving any dishes there. So it's always one or the other, it's either clean or dirty.
Good afternoon Rachel,

I’ve only had American Home Shield since April but since then, they’ve had to replace a condenser in my air conditioner, a fan in my air conditioner, my dryer and now my heater. My heater broke recently so On Time Plumbing & Heating had to put in a new one. The tech did a good job and he didn't make a mess. He had to come back and put on the drain, and now it works great.
Good Morning Anita,
Your feedback is more than appreciated. We are glad to hear about your experience and the plumbing repairs that are complete.

SDL Plumbing was sent out by American Home Shield and it went really well. They were really cordial. They asked some good questions and made sure we were taken care of. They even asked us if there was anything else 'cause what they came out to do went so quickly. They showed us what we were doing wrong when we tried to do it ourselves. A toilet that we had was loose and they put some kind of support where it's a little more stable.

When Knock Out Pools came out, the tech looked at the pool and he did his test and he said that we needed a new pump. He told me what the problem was and why we needed a new pump, and totally understood what had happened and why we needed one. Within two days, they were back out and had it installed. They were amazing. They always called to let me know they were coming. It's a great company. American Home Shield is always pretty prompt to get somebody to fix anything that I need, which is why we stayed with them. I could get ahold of them at any time, day or night. Everything has always been great.

American Home Shield's customer service was very satisfactory. My AC claim went very smoothly and quickly. I was really impressed that, within an hour after we called American Home Shield, their contractor called us for an appointment that same day. The guy was thorough and easy to understand as far as what he did with checking the AC, the Freon and the condensation around the unit.

I’m very satisfied with American Home Shield. I’ve had a couple of calls and everything has gone excellent. I’ve had two different techs come from Hornet for different things, and they’re both very professional. They come in, they do the work and they leave. They don’t mess around. Recently, I was having a problem with one of the burners on my gas stove not lighting correctly. They came out one time and it was finished.
We are happy to hear that the warranty is beneficial to you Terry. Thanks for taking time to share your warranty experience. Have an amazing weekend.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for four years, and overall, the experience has been okay. They sent Kellys HVAC for my most recent claim and they were excellent. But for a request prior that, the vendor American Home Shield sent did a very bad work. The claim was for plumbing, and my property manager said that, normally, when there’s a blockage in the bathroom, people use a snake to take things out. The guys that came to the property didn’t even use that. It was a small bathroom. They closed the door, and then they said it was done. When we tested it, the water was not draining. My property manager called them again upstairs and said that it was not done, so they came but they were mad. I think, while going, they even made a hole in one of the walls. They were very unpleasant people. So my property manager requested not to send those guys again.
I called American Home Shield two or three times for them to send somebody else. There’s another plumbing company that they send, whose service is great and most of their people are very nice. I asked American Home Shield if they can send that one but they could not change the vendor, or they would have to charge me extra, and I didn’t want to pay them again. I waited for about two to three weeks for them to do anything, but nobody took any action. They said they sent it to their customer relation, but nothing happened with that. So I had to hire somebody else to get the work done, which means I wasted my money for the people they sent. And then I had to spend extra money for getting the work done from an external plumbing company.
I wish American Home Shield pays more attention to these things, because I’m not a complainer. If I’m a customer for the last four or five years, they have to believe me when I tell them about a horrible vendor. I've had bad experience with American Home Shield twice, and this one incident got me to the point of thinking if I should drop this insurance and not buy it. I give the company about $800 or 900 every year and, on top of that, I pay with every service. But if the person who comes in doesn’t finish the work, it’s very disappointing. So, sometimes it’s better to just spend money upfront. I won’t buy American Home Shield for my home or for any other new property.
Hi Sukhwant,
I hate to hear that your experience has been less than satisfactory. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution to have the HVAC repaired.

When I purchased my house, we bought new appliances. I'm not sure if it's just the appliance brand is not a good brand, which was Samsung, but we had issues with basically every one of the appliances. We ended up having to return the microwave, and American Home Shield returned it for me to the store. They also sent somebody out to replace the burner on the stove, but that took three tries before the guy got it done correctly. And then the compressor failed on the refrigerator, which ended up having to be replaced. They sent me money for an equivalent one but I had to put up a little bit more money to pay for a new one.
Three years down the road, the compressor failed on that one. American Home Shield's contractor came out and fixed it, but I was without a freezer for two months with four kids, one being about two months old. So, I was not happy about at all. A year later, we were on the same boat. I contacted American Home Shield and explained the problem, then they sent a service technician out. He took a look at it and said that the compressor failed. They told me that they were gonna have to order one. In the meantime, I called American Home Shield and plead my case with them like, "Look, I don't know if it's just like a faulty thing," because it was a different brand of refrigerator. It's LG this time.
And so, I looked up LG. They apparently have issues with their linear compressor and they have class action lawsuits. It was a whole big thing. So I told American Home Shield that if it was any other circumstance, any other appliance, I would ask them to just repair and we would move on, but that was the second repair of the same thing in two years. And I don't wanna end up in the same situation a year down the road. I shell out a lot of money monthly to them. I have two accounts with them because I have a rental property covered through another contract with them. They said they couldn't do anything, and that if it was an LG thing, maybe I should contact LG, which I did. But even then, I didn't have a date of when the person was gonna come out, nothing from American Home Shield.
I contacted LG and they sent out a compressor, which came about two days later. They also sent out a technician, who fixed the refrigerator without charge. So, I essentially wasted $100 with American Home Shield by just having their contractor come out and diagnose it because they didn't do anything else for that. And I was like, "Well, how much does a compressor cost that you guys would repair it or replace it? I assume it's not like a cheap repair and that you would wanna do two in a year for the same appliance. I still have the receipt for the appliance. I just have everything so I can show you. It's not an old refrigerator, it's a four-year old refrigerator." So, it wasn't a good experience with that.
I told them I'm on the verge of wanting to cancel. I've had them since we bought the house in 2013 and I've just kept it for the peace of mind. But a refrigerator is a necessity. I don't wanna wait around two to three months to have a refrigerator working. That's kinda crazy. And the service is a hit or miss. Some of the reps are really good when you talk to them but sometimes they're a pain. And the hold times are extremely long.
Now, the last one with the washer, they were very quick. I called them on a Monday and their contractor came out on a Wednesday. He figured out the problem really quickly then he showed me what it was. And he knew what he was talking about. He took care of it right away and he went on his way. I'm 100% satisfied with how everything went with that one.

I got online, the American Home Shield website already had any possible issues with the checkboxes, and I checked the one that it was. It felt like a one-stop-shop. The guy from Platinum showed up promptly and he was willing to answer any questions that I had. He listened to my concerns and he got out and worked on it right away. He was professional and quick.

Absolute Comfort has been taking care of the air conditioner and I used them for routine maintenance. They're also the contractor that American Home Shield sends out when something breaks and they always respond, properly, professionally, they take care of it. Most recently, there was some electrical issue in the board, which is connected to some sensors. This time, Home Shield didn't assign Absolute Comfort, so I called them up and they gave me a list of people that I could choose from. Absolute Comfort was on there so I asked to have them and they came out.
The issue was complicated by the fact that one of the valves, the gas valves, was defective. The defective valve would’ve been a problem if the tech hadn't noticed it. It was getting a little bit worse. So, they replaced the valve and then, they replaced the board. It took a while to get the board in. He showed me a workaround until they got the board in. The board was intermittent, so what I'd have to do is turn it off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. And then, it would come back up because what was happening was it would reach a certain temperature, go off, and then not come back on. He showed me how to fix that until he could get the part in for us.

We called Home Shield rather than submitting a claim on the internet. They went out of their way to find a contractor that could take an emergency because there was water coming through the ceiling, and it worked out pretty good. We had a plumber in two hours. They were very nice. One guy arrived to do it and he fixed the whole problem in 15 minutes. We don’t have any more leaks. We had the same plumbers a month before as well and they did a good job, too.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a long time and I have three houses with them. I paid $700 and some dollars a year for one, and $500 and some for the other two. And I do not use the service that often. But three things happened over the last three weeks and they have not pleased me on two, which is not good. The one with the plumbing was very good. The man was polite and he knew what he was doing. He said that the trap had moved so he had to readjust it, and then he cleaned up and left He was here for about 15 minutes and he said that if anything happened with the trap within 60 days, he will come back and replace it.
But as to my request for the electricity in the ceiling in my basement, the follow-up has not been good. I’ve called them three times. The first person came out here and looked at it, then he said that he was gonna call American Home Shield because he is not qualified to do what had to be done. He just gave me a paper to sign that said American Home Shield had denied the request, so American Home Shield will be contacting me about that.
My concern is that, the guy said that the electricity was all right. He went by the wall to take pictures and not the ceiling, because in the ceiling, he wanted a bulb to be put in there to test it, and whatever was inside of it didn’t work. He never touched the ceiling, but when I called back the third time to find out why nobody has been back out, the young lady told me that the electrician said that there wasn’t electricity in the ceiling. If someone comes out and they have a concern, they should call and tell me what their technician said about it. But I have been calling and calling, and American Home Shield told me that they were gonna call me back, like both ladies told me they were gonna investigate and call me back, but nobody ever called me back. I’m still waiting for somebody to call me about my ceiling before I put money out of my pocket and get another electrician to come in and do what I pay $700 and some a year to do.
Even with my microwave, my concern is the follow-up. A young man looked at it and said the fuse was blown. So, he put a new fuse in and he left. About a week later, I used the microwave and the fuse blew again. I called them back, and first, the man said that it had been more than 15 days. But when I called American Home Shield, the man came back. He opened the door and looked at it and he said that it was an electrical problem. So, American Home Shield would have to contact me with another electrician to come look at it. But I don’t get any follow-up. Also, if they send somebody out to fix something, the person should qualify to fix it.
Then when I called and tried to get a manager, everybody was busy. And half of the time, you don’t even understand what they’re doing because they’re speaking in Spanish. They try to understand me and I’m trying to understand them. But I don’t think it’s fair when they said they were gonna call me back yet I have never had a return call from American Home Shield about the electric-thing in the basement. If they are not gonna do it, they should let me know, but they also send somebody out to test it.

The tech from Texas Best Heating & Air went in the attic for our heater that wasn't heating properly. There was a wire that wasn't hooked up. He put all the wires up so that we would get full heat. I've had coverage with AHS for 3 and a half years now and a contractor of theirs also replaced a fan motor on the outside air conditioner unit.

I had a claim for the AC unit and the guy from Temperature Techs came out and found what the issue was. He was on time, and in-and-out. He did a great job. I also had a claim on our microwave, and that was extremely painful. The microwave didn’t work and the company said they would order the part. And then they said they couldn't get the part, so they need to replace it. They ordered the microwave and it was delivered to the house, but they didn’t order all the pieces that were needed with it. Or they were ordered but the people didn’t bring it out, so they couldn’t install it. So I had to call American Home Shield to find out what the deal was, and they argued with me that the parts should have been delivered. But all I had was a box here. I don’t have any other parts to mount this thing. So I had to go and buy the parts to mount it, and then rescheduled, and I took a third day off of work to have somebody come and install it.
If American Home Shield was gonna replace whatever it was, then all the parts should be delivered. And the guy shouldn’t argue with me. I had to pay that out-of-pocket for that, which should have been included, because it should have been for replacement. I put that in my reply back, but I never heard anything back from them.

AHS wouldn't cover the electricals of my Sleep Number bed and my fireplace insert. I need electricity on the bed because I'm handicapped and it lifts me up. For the fireplace, I use that in case my electricity goes out. I didn't understand why they wouldn't do that because it's not wood. It's a propane-fueled fireplace. I asked AHS for a copy of what they cover but then I have never gotten it. My mailing address is different from my home address. I keep telling them not to send it to my home address 'cause I don't have a mailbox. I don't know if AHS is sending it.
Still, the plumber AHS sent was very friendly. He was a good communicator and he knew how to make me feel comfortable. I am uneasy with men in my home 'cause I live alone. He put me at ease and I really liked him. He had to replace the heating element in my water heater. Also, he looked at my kitchen sink and there was a plastic thing broken there which was causing my faucets to be loose. Additionally, he cleaned up a drain in my bathtub where my grandkids take baths. They have long hair and they made it clog up. I was very pleased with the work he did.

There was a leak in the upstairs bathroom plumbing that was affecting the kitchen ceiling. I filed a claim online but I did it accidentally on a different property, so I had to call and they had to change it. A contractor from Central Ohio Home Maintenance came out and fixed. The piping was leaking, coming from the faucet to the bathtub, behind the wall, and they had to fix something behind the wall, like a leak in the elbow. American Home Shield would do these check-up offers for you to have a vendor come out and do a check-up but if there’s something wrong with that item, the check-up doesn’t cover anything. You spent money on a check-up for nothing. I spent $75 to have my air conditioner checked on before the season started. Then when the season started, I had an air conditioning issue and they still charged me another $75 to have the same vendor that told me everything was okay 30 days before come out. I would have been better off just waiting for the thing to break. I even got the AHS person to admit that it was a scam.
If they're going to offer a preseason check-up, whether for water heaters before the winter or air conditioners before the summer, they should at least say that if you have an issue on that item within100 days, whatever you paid for the check-up goes towards paying for the visit in the event that you have some sort of issue. That just seems logical. But when I called them, they said, that it says in the fine print that it doesn’t apply if there’s an issue. I thought that that just makes them a shyster of a vendor. There’s no benefit for me to do preventative maintenance. It just costs me more money. If I have an issue that wasn’t foreseen, then I’ve got to pay for it again and I’m not gonna double pay. Now I’m just gonna wait for everything to break. It might wind up costing AHS more, but that’s not my problem.
Other than that, submitting claims through their app is easy. It’s all app and then text messages. Also, I had a great experience when AHS sent out Blue Star for a plumbing issue. I really like Blue Star as a company. The guys are very professional, well-presented and take care of things very quickly. They even put the little booties on before they walk into the house to make sure they’re not tramping any dirt. It’s pretty much everything you would ask for in a vendor.

We’d been dealing with it for about a year and I finally decided, “Okay, this is it.” I called American Home Shield and the provider called me back, emailed and texted me, all of it within an hour of me placing the call. They gave me an appointment because I told them it wasn’t urgent because at that time it was working. They opened me one appointment early in the week, and I chose later in the week because I was going to be home that day. They came in at the time they said they were gonna come in and they took care of the problem.
The tech said that there was a stoppage in the line, and he took care of it. He was very polite. Put some booties on to not damage my floor. I have tile floors so it didn’t make any difference, but I thought that was nice. It was a very pleasant experience, and American Home Shield was accessible, efficient and effective. Those are the domains of quality.
Isabel,

American Home Shield's response time depends on the trade. If you're talking about air conditioning, it could take about three days. When I submitted an online claim for my dishwasher, they responded the very next morning, which was very good. It was making a very loud noise and had a small leak. The contractor diagnosed the problem and fixed a pump and a seal. However, the dishwasher is 11 years and I would rather have it replaced but they're not allowed to do that just because of age. Overall, AHS lives up to their contract.

I got an advertisement on my email from American Home Shield about having my furnace checked. I thought that was not a bad idea but maybe I should call someone. I had to pay for it anyways, so I did. The tech inspected my furnace and all this other stuff and said I needed $1,500 for the work. I said I didn't think I was gonna do that. I called American Home Shield about their advertised inspectors. I had somebody come out and inspect my furnace. I wanted to see what was going on.
They sent out Coaches HVAC and they did a nice job. Their technician was very nice. He told me things needed to be cleaned and I had already paid to have them cleaned. He showed me the dirt and all this stuff. He told me one part needed to be replaced which I was okay with. I was very impressed with how well Coaches did. The tech had me call American Home Shield to authorize him replacing this igniter thing and everything is fine. I’m very happy.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Paul. We value your feedback & we look forward to handling with you warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

A seal in my refrigerator had gone bad and Jones Electronics came out to replace it for me. They called ahead of time to let me know they were coming, and then they called again right before they pulled up in my driveway to make sure I was home. They had their nice uniforms on and name tags, so I could see who they were. They were really friendly. Everything has been okay except the people who sent the seal to the people that fixed my refrigerator sent a bad seal. So, I called up Jones and they’re coming back today to redo the seal. They’re gonna fix it.
I called in to Home Shield to file the claim. I spoke to a representative who was very helpful and didn’t give me a hard time, which was nice. At first, I thought the contractor would be some big corporation. But, thankfully, it was a local hometown company. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a quick appointment. I had to wait a little while because it was around Thanksgiving. So, it seems like everybody’s refrigerator, freezers, ovens, and stuff break down that time of year. I had to wait a little bit, but it wasn’t something that had to be fixed immediately. And I don’t have children that I had to be worried about. Home Shield is a life saver. I’d tell others to get it. You couldn’t ask for something that would save you so much time in the long run.

I had a friend who told me that American Home Shield is excellent. I was gonna have to have someone eventually, so why not go with them. I did and I made a great choice. I've had them for at least 6 years now and I have comfort in knowing that if something goes wrong, they’re coming to help. When I had a claim for my AC, the representative who I spoke to over the phone said that I could expect contractors within 24 hours.
The Comfort First Heating & Cooling technician who came out was very nice, very knowledgeable, and courteous. He said that the coil had a hole in it and it needed to be replaced. And once they did that, they would have to put new Freon in it, and the cost to me was gonna be exorbitant. Since my house is 10 years old and the AC unit has been there the whole time, I thought I was gonna start having more problems later. So, they actually didn’t repair it because I decided to get a new unit and go with another company. Still, Comfort First did a good job.

One of my outside spigots was leaking and the shut-off valve on the inside wasn't shutting the water off to the spigot. I called in a claim to AHS and initially, I was leery because I really like to a live person but I did it through voice prompts. The process ended up being very efficient. I got a call within 5 minutes of hanging up from A 3 Aces Plumbing and & Drain Cleaning to schedule a visit. Their techs came out and it seemed like they were really rushed. Still, they spent some time with me and they were very courteous. When they installed the spigot to the copper tubing, there's an angle on it which I'm hoping wouldn't leak. They asked questions and moved stuff around to get to the area. They fixed my problem and everything has been perfect since.

Called in for microwave repair on 10/16. Took a week for representatives from Same Day Repair came to come diagnose. They were unable to fix the problem on site and determined that the problem should be from a faulty control panel. They informed us that our warranty company American Home Shield would need to determine replacement or repair. American Home shield then told us we needed to send the control panel for repair. On a following appointment the control panel was extracted which also disabled my oven while the panel was sent for repair. Had to wait for another month before they scheduled a third appointment to install the fixed part. After a month wait the part still did not work!
Now I am being informed that a second opinion is needed before a replacement authorization is issued. It’s been almost two months! Every time I call the customer service, my calls are routed to a foreign country where representatives throw out empathy words, yet when it comes to a resolution, no one cares and can address concerns. I have been on numerous calls and long wait times. When asking for manager I have been asked to hold for over 30 minutes after which my calls have been dropped. Really wondering how this company is allowed to operate legally.

They asked for a bag to make sure that the stuff that they took out that had water residue on it wasn’t dripping throughout the house. The tiny things like that were important to me. It was probably the best claim that I’ve had with American Home Shield so far. He couldn’t get it fixed, and he said that he had to send it in to the main office and get their approval. Then I contacted American Shield a day or two later and they said that I qualified for a new washer, which I already got. I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and usually they’re good. And lately they’re better. You can get them on the phone much faster. You don’t have to sit on the line for a long time. The only thing I had a problem with them this past summer was with the plumber. What happened was the plumber wanted extra money and called me directly, demanding a credit card. I contacted AHS and they reimbursed me the $100 fee that I paid. But the problem was never fixed. And I called many times, sat on the phone on hold for an hour. It’s been six months and I'm tired. I don’t have the patience already. But I was happy with their contractor, GMI. They’re very professional, very precise and on time. The contractor called back right away. And when he said what needs to be done, he sent the information. It was clear. And then when they decided to go ahead with the changes because it was extra pay, he did it right away.

The guy from Stuart's Appliance was able to repair my appliance, which was wonderful because I did not want to have to purchase a new one. So, we were pleased with his service and expediency in coming to take care of it. We, however, had horrible experience in July of this year when our air condition went out and we were working. It was a horrible experience submitting the claim. The errors made were unbelievable. Being cut off, not being able to understand, they made mistakes by calling the wrong department.
I wrote a letter of complaint to the complaint department and I received a letter back from the administrative office. I was very impressed that they responded so well. They ended up reimbursing us for four days that we would have stayed in a hotel. It ended up being 17 days before we had it repaired. They had to replace it. At that point, we started looking at other places where we might be able to get a warranty. We have been with the company since 2003 or 2004, so that was not a good experience and that soured us for a while. We also had an issue with my microwave, and that was not a good experience. My husband had put everything through the computer, the order, the choice, and a deposit for it.
But the last two experiences have been good. Our garbage disposal was a good experience as well. I was impressed with their services. So, we would like to stay with American Home Shield because, reputation-wise and advertisement-wise, it has been great. But my understanding is that the resources that they are using now from the Philippines has been a negative experience for the company, and I hope that they will consider going back to American sources.

My disposal was 12 inches and the contractor put an 8-inches in and then bent the pipes to make it work. It wasn't properly installed because they used an inferior unit and because of that, the ring, the rubber gasket around the garbage disposal came loose and caused the same problem. It was leaking again. About a couple of months later, I called them back out and said the same thing was happening. The technician just looked at it and said that the gasket was leaking but he couldn’t do anything with that because this was the garbage that they said could be compatible to the outlet.
I didn't have a problem with that but when they came here, the disposal didn't work but the whole plumbing system worked. I wanted them to put a working, operable garbage disposal and make sure the plumbing works. Then, at about the same amount of time, the flange breaks again. The rubber drum is sticking out but it wasn't broken. I told him that the way they got this positioned, it would never work. He said he knew what to do and what he should do, but the rules told him he couldn’t.
The guy never was belligerent and I liked his attitude. He was very courteous, came on time and had prompt services. He had a good attitude all three times he came and he gave excellent service but I had a problem with what he was saying about contract rules. I asked to talk to their boss and so, he did whatever it took to make it right on the third time. He told me what was wrong with it. He said he would take care of it and he did. He reduced the strainer and put a shorter one in. I asked him why he didn’t do it in the first place if that was what was going to take to make the garbage disposal work. I said that if I gotta pay another $100, I don't have need of the service.
If it was the sink or the faucet leaking or it was something else, then I would say that I could understand but then, they said that they wanted to charge me another $100 to come back out and fix the same problem. That was the third time he had come out here. So, the lady at AHS got a hold of me and she said that she understood what I was saying, so I would be charged for the deductible on that day but she was gonna reverse it. I just called about a week ago and I told her that they charged my card but I didn't see it reversed. She said that it would probably be reversed off my card Monday or Tuesday. I'm satisfied with my service now, but I just wasn't feeling that.

We were without heat for two days. The thermostat was causing the furnace to short out. The first company that American Home Shield called, Stout Heating, said they never got the email. So I called American Shield back and they called the company back again the second time, which meant I was 24 hours delayed because of that.
The rep called this Stout company back again that morning and they told him they would call me within an hour. They never called. I finally called Stout Heating back, and they said that American Shield had just called, which I knew that was not the truth because I was on the phone when American Shield called. So I would never, ever want to be sent to Stout Heating and Cooling. They're not reputable and they lie. They caused my family to have an additional 24 hours without heat because they lied. American Home Shield needs to get rid of them. They had no kind of interrelations with the customer. They talked to me like I was a dog in the backyard. They were horrible.
After that, they sent out HRS, and they were excellent from the time I spoke with them on the telephone to the time the service gentleman came out. I could tell from the lady that I spoke with how reputable they were and customer-oriented. The service guy was on time, polite, and knowledgeable of what he had to do. I would take them every time because they did exactly what they said.
If American Shield called them first, then we wouldn't have had to spend 48 hours without heat. It wasn't fair that I had to wait those additional 24 hours because the first company lied. And then, after I talked to them, they still were not gonna come out within the 24-hour period. There may not be anything American Shield can do about that, but that was terrible because it wasn't anything I did. Somebody coulda made some kind of concession because it wasn't my fault. I did what I was supposed to do. But as far as the service we received, I have no complaints about it, and HRS was a great company.

The technician from Klenk Appliance Repair came out today and he was great and professional. The dishwasher cycled one time totally fine, and then after that it was doing the .20 error code at 67 minutes. The dishwasher starts at 133 minutes, and it does totally fine until 67 minutes, and then it beeps. You have to get up, hit cancel and then start and close the door again. Then it's fine for about 5 to 10 minutes and then it's .20 and beeps, and it goes all the way through the entire cycle every 5 to 10 minutes. If I leave the house, it will eventually shut off at 67 minutes and it won't finish the cycle. The technician wasn’t familiar with that code and he was looking for a specific F or L. I have pictures of the error code. I have a video of me for 45 minutes coming back and forth and turning off and restarting. I couldn’t tell him there was an error code because this was all I saw.
I ran it this morning and when he got there, it was beeping at the 67 minutes. He pressed and I said that it always goes back off about 58 minutes. But he kept on opening the door. So, I don't know if that's what didn't trigger the beep to go off at 58 minutes. So, I told him to leave the door closed for 10 minutes and just wait for the beep because it would beep. He ended up restarting the entire machine.
The technician said that the .20 could be a pressure sensor. I asked if it could be a King's valve in the back and if that was what was pushing on the pressure sensor. He wasn't sure and I told him that it was what he just replaced. He even said that he replaced everything but it's still flashing. The entire time, whatever he fixed didn’t really fix what my issue was from the entire beginning. In theory, if you're replacing hundreds of dollars of material, you would think that it would fix whatever the problem was but I've only seen the .20 and then the beeping every after 67 minutes all the way down.
Alicia,

I wrote a letter in October that I wasn’t quite clear on how to make a claim. And in the letter, I wrote several things that were wrong and some of the things I wasn’t quite sure whether they were covered or not. One was the icemaker wasn’t working on the refrigerator. They assigned somebody for that, and I told the contractor, “Well, I think the filter also needs to be replaced.” And the gal had said, “Well, that really isn’t covered, but we can put it in when we come out, if you go get the filter blah, blah, blah.” And they told me what the number was, and I went got the filter. The guy came out and he stuck the filter in and he goes, “Oh, that’ll solve everything,” and left. He didn’t even check to see if the icemaker was working. And it wasn’t. I had to call them back again, and then the guy came out and said, “Yeah, it’s not working.” And then he went away and ended up fixing it.
The other was the garbage disposal and the plumbing. On the garbage disposal, a guy came out from Rapp’s Plumbing. He was very helpful. He looked at the garbage disposal and said, “Well, it’s gonna need to be replaced.” We discussed the plumbing. He said some things he could do. The next week I got a call from Rapp’s Plumbing and they said, “Oh, well, he no longer works for us, but somebody else will come out and look at the stuff.” So, they had somebody else come out and he agree that the garbage disposal needed to be replaced and did that. But his story about the plumbing was different. At that time nobody told me to stop trying to plunge these toilets. I had one toilet that plugs up very frequently or has in the past, and about every two to three weeks it would plug up and it would take me a week or two to unplug it.
And then I had another toilet that plugged up more frequently but less intensely. And so at the time I wrote my letter in I was having trouble with both of those toilets. We’re two, old disabled people in the house but we got four bathrooms so we can kinda work around things. The plumber said, “Oh well, if they’re not plugged at the moment, we can’t do anything about them.” I was told lots of different stories. What this guy was saying that the toilet had to be lifted and it’s $455, and Home Shield would not be paying for it so I would have to be paying for it if I wanted to have it done. And two toilets, that’s 450 times two, is about $900.
Somebody from American Home Shield called trying to get me to renew, and I said I was kinda holding off on renewal till I found out about how they were doing on this service. The lady I talked to had been in the authorization department at one time or another. She said, “Well, if the toilet needs to be lifted, no, that’s something we cover. I don’t understand what they’re talking about. The next time they get plugged up, if they can let us know and we’ll have somebody else come out there and you call the right people.” I waited a couple of more weeks until they got plugged up again.
I called in and things were rather rough and rocky dealing with the Home Shield people. I talked to one lady and she really wouldn’t help me very much. I said, “Well, I’d like to talk to a supervisor.” She said, “We don’t have any supervisors.” She would not transfer me to a supervisor for nothing. So then, I got done with her. I called back in and got ahold of another gentleman. I told him I called in prior to talking to him and had said that the one toilet wasn’t working, and they’d put in a order for somebody to come out and look at the one toilet.
I also said, “Well, you know, a couple of days after that toilet stopped working, the other one that I’d been having trouble with, it stopped working.” He said, “Well, we can’t take and put in another request for another toilet at the same time you’ve already got one in.” And I go, “That doesn’t make any sense.” And I said, “Can I talk to a supervisor?” He said, “Okay. Well, there’s none around right now, but I’ll call you back in an hour.” So I sat by the phone for over an hour, and then I had to run out to the post office. I never did hear back from him, but he may have called after I left, because after an hour of sitting there by the phone waiting and then I had to run an errand.
I ran the errand, but there wasn’t any messages or anything. But when the guy from Rapp’s came out, he seemed to be willing to deal with the multiple toilet problem. This time around it went pretty good. I told him the history of the thing. I showed him the toilets that were not flowing, and he worked on them, Everything started working, and he left. My service from American Home Shield has been very uneven. Some people are extremely helpful and some people are much less helpful. I would say 50% of the time it wasn’t good, and about maybe a little less than 30% it was okay.

I have tried to get someone to look at my ductwork and have filed claims with American Home Shield twice. However, they keep sending plumbers out when it's not a plumber's job. I got reimbursed for the fee one time but I'm gonna call again about them sending people who handle ductwork and not regular plumbers. For another claim, though, they sent A&S Plumbing and they had to replace a part for the shower. The guy who came out was really nice and he did a great job.

I do the claims online with American Home Shield and the website is easy to get my orders in so, it works good. But it’s a hit or miss on when to expect the contractors. Sometimes, they get to me within an hour and other times, it doesn’t work as smoothly. Also, I wish that AHS would let me pick my own contractor. We have higher end appliances and there were certain contractors I had that didn’t work on our brands, but AHS would still assign them. I would call the contractor and say that I know that they don’t work on this brand and that I don’t want them to come out. So, I have to call American Home Shield back and ask them to get someone else, which they do. They’re very helpful. Quite a few times, I’ve had to go through where I have to get the contractor and then, I submit the bill back to American Home Shield. So, that’s when there’s a delay.
My garage door wasn’t opening so the contractor came out and fixed it but it broke again. So, they came back and fixed it. I like the guys from Four Seasons and they were very friendly. They kept trying to upsell me about other services they were doing, which I’m fine with a little bit because I understand that world but I don’t like being pressured.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for 12 years. In the beginning, their customer service was worse than bad. It was so slow and you’d sit on hold for hours but the phone calls level has improved dramatically. AHS is a great thing and it is a big relief for me because I’m a guy that used to fix everything, and I don’t need to be doing that. I’m 64 and I don’t have to climb up on a ladder to fix the fan. So, I love having the ability to just type in if something’s broken. I don’t have to tell my wife that I'll fix that and then, three weeks later, she would say that the dryer is still not working. Also, 75 bucks is the perfect price for me. I’m totally fine with paying that and knowing that these things are being taken care of.

We had an issue with our air conditioner and United Air Temp came out two days after I submitted the claim. They got back to me the following day with a text, and then their guy was out the following day. He was very professional. Everything’s running smoothly. I’m very pleased with that company.

We liked the idea of being able to pick 10 different things with 10 different appliances. The flexibility of American Home Shield's contract or the coverage is a nice feature as well. Then the guy from Clark's Appliance that came out was really good. He came earlier than he thought he would and he had some opening in his time. He came in, fixed the thing up, and he was gone. He was very efficient.

Supertech Appliance was great. They came out, identified the problem, listened to what we were talking about and they fixed it. But we had a huge issue with American Home Shield recently. It wasn't so much American Home Shield. It was easy to get a claim started and get the process going, and they originally sent out another provider that went out to our property. They looked at our refrigerator. I don't live there, my tenant does. My tenant said the guy walked in there. The temperature wasn't being controlled, it was fluctuating all over the place. The guy flapped some kind of a panel and said, "Oh it's the thermometer." He changed it out and left. It was 20 minutes.
It started happening again. So, they sent the guy out to do the exact same thing again. We asked why they were not pulling out the refrigerator, looking around the outside, and try to diagnose the problem. This guy didn't do any of that. Meanwhile, I was on the phone with American Home Shield trying to tell them they're not investigating the problem. I don't fix refrigerators, and that's why I hire American Home Shield. It took over a month for this to get repaired, and meanwhile, my tenants are in that house with two young children with a not operating refrigerator.
Every time I called American Home Shield, I had to talk to a different representative every time and go through this lengthy explanation. Over and over, I had to repeat what my issue is, and I had to escalate it to somebody else. I must have repeated the story about 10 times and to 10 different people. It was awful. We are actively looking at getting somebody else and not using American Home Shield. They should have checked out the providers a little bit better and sent out a good provider that would actually diagnose the problem. I've never had an issue with American Home Shield, but that guy didn't do his job. I had to keep calling back American Home Shield over and over again.
Finally, American Home Shield sent out somebody else without me paying $100, and that was when Supertech came out. It took over a month to have the right people come in and fix it in three days. And with the first people they sent, we've gotten to almost shouting matches with the owner of that place, which was so stressful. It was the most miserable experience I've ever had in my life.
When there's a case that gets escalated, American Home Shield needs to have one person that handles it and talks through it, so I don't have to call every day and repeat it over and over again for a month to other people. They're like, "No, I can handle it. I can handle it." And I'd sit there and I spent hours. If there's an issue, someone needs to grab hold of the issue and follow it through the end. They need like a resolution department that handles the issue from once it gets escalated. I get the call centers. I know they wanna handle everything that they can, but at some point, it needs to get passed off to someone that's gonna finish the job. We've been paying with them for years, and we're just trying to take a break from American Home Shield right now. They need to also vet their contractors out better.

They sent someone out as soon as they could. The first contractor who came, however, could not do it. So, they had to consult a second company that came out. Whatever was wrong, they could not do it and he had to order a part. He told me he was going to order it and once the part comes, he would come do it. The part came and he came out with his two people and they fixed it. They did good.

They were out very quickly and I was very happy with it. When they were here, they were very thorough and they checked everything. They had to come 3 times because there were 3 different issues on the same appliance. But each time, they were here within 24 hours. It ended up being two different switches that were faulty. The claims process is typically pretty easy. Most of the time, the contractors have been good. We’ve had a few issues where they’ve sent somebody out who couldn’t fix the issue after multiple trips. And then, we complained enough where they sent another team or company out who fixed the problem pretty quickly. But that was about 10 years ago.
There was an issue with this particular case where there was quite a bit of confusion when my wife put in the request and it went to Samuel & Sons. This was a repeat trip, and we had to call back a couple of times to get the issue fixed. We ended up calling back on a Friday, and it was referred to Samuel & Sons again, but then we called them and they said that there was a recording that said they weren’t open on weekends. So why was this getting dispatched to somebody who’s not open on the weekends when this is a recurring issue? And if we know these people aren’t gonna be working, then why is it getting sent to them? So the person from American Home Shield didn’t have all the information and wasn’t able to provide answers.
I’ve come to find out from another representative who we talked to later on the following week that they have about 24 business hours where it would’ve been within their policy, but the person just wasn’t armed with the information to explain it. And there was a little bit of a language barrier where he couldn’t clearly explain that to us or didn’t have the knowledge to explain it to us.

Everything went well with the claim where Ashman Appliance Service came. They were very professional. They made a follow-up call due to the Thanksgiving holiday and said the technician would call on Sunday to let me know what time on Monday he’d come. He did just that. He checked out everything and looked to see what the issue was because that was something they had done before. And it was that. He happened to have the part and it was resolved within 20 minutes of him getting here. I understood it was the Thanksgiving holiday and people were off, companies were closed. They stuck to their word when they said they would call on Sunday to give me a timeframe of when they would be here on Monday. I like that and I really enjoy them.
I stayed with AHS for over 10 years because of, number one, the convenience. If something does happen to an appliance on the home, it’s nice to know that I can call and pay the small fee to have someone come, look and determine what the issue really is and if it is fixable. Submitting a claim online is very easy too. I've always recommended to friends who have bought home to make sure that they get a home warranty.

Previously, we had a claim with AHS and it took 2 weeks to get somebody out to look at our garage door. More recently, I called in claims to AHS for my stove fan as well as my washer and dryer. Their reps were terrific and Sears came out to do service for us in three days. Working with Sears' contractor was really easy. They called me beforehand and let me know what time they would arrive. They showed up on time and took care of what I wanted taken care of. That time, we thought there were problems but then all my issues required was cleaning for the vent in the dryer and to not put so much laundry in my washer. For the stove fan, there was nothing the tech could do about it. It was old and so it would just make a bit of noise. There was nothing we could do without totally replacing the fan.

My dryer was not heating too well. So I placed a service request with Home Shield through the website, and a contractor was assigned and initially sent to us. The first contractor came and said it was an issue with the exhaust from the dryer, which could have been clogged, and went away, saying that the cleaning of the exhaust would not be covered under the scope of the current insurance. But to my recollection, I had just occupied that house for four months and I had already done the duct cleaning before I moved in. That was not a probable cause.
When I raised it up with an American Home Shield agent, they assigned it to Express. Maurice was the technician who came in. Right away, he set to work, and he was very professional and identified the issue to be with the thermostat. He knew exactly what to look for based on the symptoms that we mentioned and spotted the issue right away. It was very happy. He ordered the parts for us, and a week later, we scheduled another appointment with Maurice. He came in and he fixed it. The dryer has been working great ever since. The troubleshooting has been excellent. Scheduling the second visit for Maurice was over the phone because the Express call center was very busy. That was one thing I didn't like about that.
AHS been functional for the most part. I think you luck out with the contractor that you get assigned, which is 90% of the experience. The website has been fine in terms of scheduling it, and the contractor usually gets ahold of you within 48 hours. But the bulk of the experience lies on the time that the contractor spends with you. So, that's what I value. In this particular dryer claim, I was not at all pleased with the first technician that came in. It didn't help that they didn't troubleshoot it correctly. On a couple of other instances, I've had good and moderate experiences, so it heavily depends on who gets sent out.

I was very upset and not happy with the AC guy. I was also upset and sad that I couldn’t get my air conditioning unit fixed. But I came to find out that I had cut off the circuit breaker during the winter. I forgot until my son came home and asked if I cut it from inside the house. However, when the AC came, he never asked if the circuit breaker was off for the unit so I went through the whole summer without air conditioning. He said he couldn’t fix it and that in 2020, my unit was gonna be no good anyway because it was an environmental hazard and it would be pulled out. I had to buy a whole new unit. I would have liked to have seen someone who would check everything to make sure that the unit was on from the circuit breaker.
However, the gentleman that came for my electrical issue did well. He was excellent, very courteous and professional. The electrical sockets on one side of the house downstairs weren’t working and they were burnt out. He moved so quick and fast. It took him half an hour to resolve the issue. I was very happy with him. Also, I like the plan that AHS has and the price.

Our washer had a bad transmission and we submitted a claim to AHS. Sears came out in a day or two and the tech they sent was very good. He told me my washing machine, even though it was old, was a workhorse and it was worth keeping. I liked hearing that. Since he repaired it, the machine has been working great. At the same time, I also requested AHS to have someone come out to repair the gasket in the freezer part of my refrigerator. They sent Rocket Repair who came a couple of days after Sears. They said I needed a new gasket and said that they would have to order it.
We set up an appointment for the following Wednesday and the Rocket Repair tech said he would be at our place between 10:00 and 2:00. I waited all day and he never showed up and didn't call. I called Rocket Repair and they told me that as the tech was coming to my house, he discovered the gasket was the wrong color and he didn't come anymore. Still, he didn't call. They reordered but it took three weeks. I kept calling Rocket Repair and they kept saying they were waiting for the gasket.
Last week, I couldn't call as I was too busy with company. I called on Monday and Rocket Repair told me that they had the gasket and asked me if I still wanted it. I told them I did and the tech came out. He pulled the gasket out of the box and though it was the right color, he found that it was for the refrigerator side and not for the freezer. Now, I'm waiting again and the whole saga has been going on for about a month. It's a little discouraging. Even so, AHS has been pretty good to me so far.

We have been so pleased with American Home Shield. We’ve been using them for a number of years. We used to have only a couple of appliances covered. When we lived in South Florida, there was a company called Service America that we had used. We are not handy. We don’t have the right tools around the house, and we wouldn’t know what to do with them if we had them. So, we hire people to get stuff done.
With American Home Shield, our yearly cost went up but we have more than pay for it. All of our appliances are covered, and it covers electrical and it covers plumbing, and what they charge when they come to the house is a set $75 no matter what is wrong. When you have an electrician walk into your house, it’s $200 before he walks out. We had an electrical issue that was my fault. It was really easy to fix, but he walked in and knew exactly what was wrong. We just had a plumber come because we had some sinks in the bathroom that had hair in the traps and we had somebody try to fix it for us, and then my husband tried. It was a double sink. So, when the plumber came, he fixed two sinks within about 45 minutes. It was $75 for a plumber.
We also had a refrigerator in the garage that was ancient and the gasket went on it. And so, all my produce was freezing because warm air would get in. So AHS said, “Okay. If we can’t fix the gasket, we’ll get you a new refrigerator.” We have a brand new $900 refrigerator that we didn’t pay more than $75 for. We’re really pleased. The guys who come to the house are people in the community. But we have been absolutely so pleased for the money. We pay 250 bucks a year. The refrigerator paid for our yearly premium for the next couple years. It’s a brand-new one with no icemaker. We didn’t want one. And we picked it out also. They said, “Go to this website, pick a refrigerator that you like.” This is the one we think is good. I didn’t want an icemaker because I don’t have water in my garage. So, we’re thrilled.
The delivery guys showed up with it and then I hooked it up myself. I plugged it into a different plug for 24 hours before I decided to switch refrigerators. They took the old one away. So, we didn’t have to worry about that either. We have been more than pleased with them. That was a fluke. We never expected that. Ultimately, we have one of these duet dryers that we’ve had for a number of years, and the timer has gone on it, and at some point, in the next couple of months, we’ll have somebody come out to fix the timer on our dryer. That’s not cheap either. So, no matter what it is, it’s $75.

I submit claims over the phone to American Home Shield and the customer service has been good so far. I’ve been with AHS for less than a year and the people they’ve sent out has done a good job. One problem was that they were originally going to send someone from 100 miles away but we contacted them about that and they sent someone from a little bit closer.
Our dishwasher went out while we had a houseful of Thanksgiving company and what we understood was that American Home Shield would get our dishwasher fixed within a very reasonable time. Instead, we called Monday and they had somebody who couldn’t come out until next Wednesday and that was entirely too much. We pay $100 prior to the contractor coming and we pay an annual fee of nearly $600, and that was not fair that we had to wait nine days. We also had a claim for the washer and they did the same thing. They called the same place that doesn’t come over but once every Wednesday. Unless they're booked, they can’t come over till the next Wednesday. I complained and they sent over Sears, and we got the lady that was so good and she came out the next day. She was professional, knew exactly what she was gonna do and it was a pleasure to have her in our home.
AHS has one person that they call, and if that person can’t come out for two weeks or however long, then we have to settle for that. Whenever we went with them, we thought that they were going to have a number of people that they could call and they would get someone out to take care of our situation. If this was plumbing, we can’t wait on stuff. We need to get it fixed. We’ve already paid for the year but I am not pleased with this at all and I will not stay with AHS.
Hi Carter & Anne Reed,
I hate to hear that your experience has been less than satisfactory. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution to have the dishwasher repaired.

We had some type of leakage where there was spraying in the backyard and flooding around the house, and there was a foul odor throughout the house and throughout the backyard. I called American Home Shield and I was informed who the contractor would be. We had two different contractors, and one of them was really good while another was a little bit more difficult to deal with because of a lack of communication on both parties. Apparently, the line separated and they put an attachment to where they can reattach the hose, and they used some type of glue. The leakage was taken care of but it was more of a temporary fix and we were informed that we’ll probably have to replace the whole thing. They did a recall to see if the warranty or if the previous homeowner was covered for the permanent fix, but we haven’t gone further than that.

And then a couple days later, the person calls you, and follows up with you. The people that work for American Home Shield or that have contracted with them are professionals.
I had my card that I had initially set up with American Home Shield, but the information was stolen so I had to cancel it. So when the payment came through, it was being denied. I called and I updated it and the payment went through. But I kept getting emails and attempt to run the card even after I called and I spoke to the gentleman and he said it was taken out of the system. The system still had it registered. They finally tell me about a plan that reimburses for coverage as I'm canceling their policy, not during the multiple phone calls with them complaining about this problem. Their sales staff is either uninformed or intentionally mislead. One of their vendors said he would order a part for us. We call to for an update on the part only to find out that he never ordered it because he told AHS we broke the stove. He never told us that he was doing this after the service call. We have to call to dispute this. They send another one of their vendors who fixes the stove in 15 minutes without any parts. They charge me $100 to cancel the contract. I say buyer BEWARE!!

RUN AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN FROM THIS COMPANY! Have been trying to get my refrigerator fixed for over 2 months. The first contractor they sent out twice but their reports were not good enough to where that contractor refused to keep wasting their time and wouldn't come anymore. Next they called Sears repair, they diagnosed that it needs a plumber. AHS did not like that and insisted that Sears keep coming until they would make a different diagnosis. Sears came again and said the same. Again AHS not happy and wanted them to come again and made 4 more appointments for me and each time Sears would cancel. Sears will only give you a window of 8am-5pm, so each appointment I had to rearrange my whole day for nothing. AHS says Sears never sent in the diagnosis from their last appointment which was 11/4/19. Today is 11/30/19. And still they say no diagnosis has received. Sears says they sent it at least a dozen times.
There is an apparent war between the two companies and they have put the customer in the middle and I am suffering for it. AHS has set up yet another for 12/2/19. I told them I have a doctor's appointment made 3 months ago, they actually suggested I cancel my doctor's appointment, after all this is more important than my health. Or allow someone into my home to be there, setting me up to be a victim. NO! AHS refused to make another appointment and refused to cancel it, I told him I would not be here a portion of the day. The technician would only cancel it again for the 5th time anyway, and I would have lost my Dr. Appt.
I told AHS that I was not comfortable with Sears and the games that they are playing with me and AHS and wanted someone new to come out. I have been over accommodating and patient between these two companies and something needs to end. In the meantime, AHS continues to collect my money. I have spent the majority of my hours on the phone with these 2 companies, and want my life back and a working refrigerator. They are not considerate of their customers' needs.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

AHS is a scam. We’ve had this service for over 10 years (shame on us) but they are VERY incompetent. The contractors are idiots and CANNOT repair ANYTHING. EVERY appliance that we have requested service on has REPEATEDLY broken down with the same issue. The contractors order the wrong parts, install the wrong parts, half ** fix things that fault immediately after their 60 day warranty. Every customer service rep is incompetent and barely speaks English. DO NOT BUY AHS or HSA Home Warranty, Landmark Home Warranty, OneGuard Home Warranty. ALL SCAMS!!!!

I purchased a warranty from AHS in July. Between July and November, I’ve contacted them 5 times. The first time was immediately after moving in to the house (under warranty). On day one, the AC unit quit. It was 98 degrees out. They told me it would be 3-5 days before service could be provided. I completed the repair myself at my own cost. One month after moving in, we noticed staining and water marks appearing on the dining room ceiling below the master bath shower. AHS dispatched a technician who said the leak was caused by old caulking. New caulk was applied and the leak was not fixed.
AHS was called again to repair the leak. They were informed that the leak was coming from the shower drain based on evidence of previous repair (a large section of dining room ceiling had been replaced). AHS refused to open the ceiling to inspect and repair the leak. The leak is continuing until I can replace the shower pan. AHS will not cover the cost of repair. Shortly after the leak was detected, the spring on the garage door broke. AHS said it was covered and ordered a repair scheduled in 5 days. Since both cars were stuck in the garage, I made the repair myself. Later AHS said the spring was not covered anyway.
This morning, the water heater quit working. I called in a request for service, paid the fee and was told the soonest service could occur would be in 4 days. I requested earlier service and was told that AHS would check and call back. Later, I called AHS to get an update and was told the order had been canceled. Nice. So, I placed a new work order. Service is scheduled for 5 days from now. Bottom-line, AHS is not reliable, provides less than good service, and can’t be trusted to get it right. I would recommend anyone but AHS if you’re looking for a home warranty company.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

The heater was going but it wasn't feeling any heat, and it took quite a while for the house to heat up. The tech from R Harris AC and Heating found the problem and he fixed it. They were here for two hours and it was wonderful. The unit has been quiet since then, so I was very pleased. I submitted claims online though most of the times I call, and I've never had any problem submitting it. My husband is handicapped and has dementia and AHS has been able to get someone out to me quickly. I've had American Home Shield for quite a few years now, and I have been pleased with everyone.

I had a fantastic experience with American Home Shield. Premier heating and Air came out, and they were fantastic. They gave us a program to come in and inspect all the heating units, all the central air and the fans, and they made sure everything is in working order. We’re gonna keep the contract going for maintenance of all the heating units and air conditioning. Premier came in and they took care of everything. It was $300 for the whole works for three stories of the house from the bottom.

I went out a week for Thanksgiving weekend and when I came back on Sunday, I saw the entire kitchen was flooded. So, I went up to the bathroom, and I saw water in the bathroom upstairs. It was coming down in the walls too, damaging the walls, the cabinets and the flooring upstairs and downstairs. I called American Home Shield. I, however, was holding on for a while and did not get anyone. So, I put in the request on email. They contacted me the next day.
The guy from All Hours Emergency Plumber was great. I've had him before working on issues in the house. He said the leak was coming from the valve and the little thing at the bottom where you turn the pipe. He was there for a while, but he only did it in one visit. He came early in the morning and did not leave until the afternoon. He and another gentleman was there, and someone else from the home warranty company was trying to get the water and stuff out. Since the repair, the toilet has been good.

AHS sent someone out prior for a refrigerator claim I had and the tech was not good. It took about a week and a half to get the tech out there. Then he said he couldn't fix it because of the position and I had to move the refrigerator out into my living room for him to get to it. It was a horrible experience. I called the home warranty company and asked to send the person that came out when I had issues with my fridge in prior months. That company came out within two days and fixed the issue right there. They didn't need any assistance with my refrigerator being moved out to my living room. Also, I like AHS because it's convenient. I can submit claims online and it's usually quick response and service is done in a timely fashion.

We needed to get the remote to be able to operate the garage door from our car. Two gentlemen from All American Doors came from out of Abilene, which is 75 to 80 miles from here, and they not only fixed that but they also greased the rollers on that door which made it much quieter. The two gentlemen got out and introduced themselves, what they were there for, introduced that they were representing American Home Shield, and then they went right to work. We had two remotes and we also bought a car that would allow it to be operated from the car itself. And they did all three of those things, the car and two remotes. We appreciate it very much. We've had AHS for nearly 20 years already, and we’ve also got another little home that my mother lived in in Granbury, Texas that is covered by them.

The right sink on our two-sink kitchen setup was leaking. It’s a brand-new kitchen from last year and it seemed like the connection was stripped. The guy from All American Plumbing and Rooter replaced the bottom of the right sink, which came with a new pipe. Then, he replaced the little elbow that joins the right sink over to the left sink. He tested it to make sure it was working and everything went well. Then, he said that he did not get the order to fix the sprayer for the second time.
I got one of those pull-down sprayer faucets and about two and a half weeks ago, we called because the sprayer had malfunctioned. The first guy took the part, tightened something and it has been working fine. But since he left, the buttons were getting stuck inside. The guy from All American took it apart and he said that it had a faulty deflector and that they couldn’t replace it but he would look to see what the part was. So I told him while he was doing that, I was gonna run over to Home Depot. Today, the lady gave me the part number and said I have to make a claim with another company to see if I could get a replacement.
AHS did a good job. Three weeks ago, the bathroom sink and the faucet needed to be replaced because the parts were old and needed to be updated. The guy had to order the part and they came three days later. It was a different guy who came over and he was very fast. He was neat, he cleaned up his mess and made sure I was comfortable with the faucet turning on and off, and the plunger feature. The shower head was fixed the first time and it just gave out. There was no cleaning it with that material or that solution to get rid of the lime and he said it was way beyond that. He went to his truck, got the part, swapped out the shower head and it works like a charm now. So, I was trying to join all the services together. They did a good job.
Good Morning, My name is Robert and I will be following up with you to ensure this is resolved.

I've had a claim open with AHS for over a week now. The original heating company that was sent stated it was an electrical problem. They didn't really check anything and it wasn't that at all. They called the electrician and Bill Richards Electric came out. The tech asked why the heating company would even be looking at the fuse box. The issue was definitely a heating problem. So, I had another heating company come out and it was determined that the issue was the compressor on my heat pump.
Supposedly, the compressor took a while to order which I don't understand. I spoke to JESCO, which is the heating and air conditioning contractor. The tech said the compressor should be in later today and that he should be able to fix the problem tomorrow. I don't see how heating is not a priority in winter. Still, other than this issue taking forever to resolve, AHS has been very good.

We had a pipe that runs to the refrigerator and serviced the water. Back in August of last year, it evidently sprang a leak. The guy who came out said that he couldn't find a leak so he cut a hole in the wall and looked. Then he said that it was not coming from the bathtub and that he didn't see a leak. This November, we noticed water dripping out of the exhaust fan and it was leaking under to the floor, getting the floor all wet. The tiles started coming up and we noticed a lot of mold building up. I called AHS again and they sent a fantastic plumber out. Between him and I, we found the leak, which had been leaking for about a year. AHS is doing everything they’re supposed to do. They jumped right on the claim and got it done.

Lone Star did a great job. They were on time and it took them just 10 minutes to fix the drain line from my air conditioner. It was clogged. They were able to unclog it. They said they blew out the drain and it was draining fine. We've been with American Home Shield since we bought our house. And before that, we've been with them for 20 years. We are not very good at fixing things and I like to be able to pay a premium and a co-pay and just have AHS take care of the rest.
Occasionally, in the summertime, if we have air conditioning problems, it might take a while for that to get taken care of. They do replace things with a lesser quality equipment than what we have already installed. Other than that, they're pretty good about getting stuff taken care of for us. Our pool pump went out. We had a Polaris pool pump and they replaced it with something less expensive. And they've had to replace it more than once since they've replaced that. Polaris is a better quality and probably lasts longer, but they chose to use a less expensive product and it doesn't have the lifespan of a Polaris. But then they come back and replace that, so it works out for us. If you're in position where you can't fix stuff, AHS is probably pretty good.

I found out about American Home Shield through my sister-in-law who lives in California who had friends who used it and have it, and she said that I ought to look into it. She was gonna join it as well. I made a call when I submitted a claim and the process went very smoothly. After I notified American Home Shield of my appliance issue, Central Appliance called me the following day. Then, the technician came over the day after. He diagnosed what the problem was and he said that he was gonna have to report it and then order the parts. He did that and I got an email from AHS telling me that parts have been ordered. As soon as the technician got them, he came back and fixed it, and that was good.
The quick response, and the appropriateness of the service and the person stood out to me. It was very positive. This is a very worthwhile service to have. It gives me peace of mind, which was a very important aspect of why I took the service, to know that if something goes wrong, I have a service contract out there that’s gonna step in and take care of it. I found this way to be very efficient, and so far, cost-effective.

Jonathan from United Air Temp was superb. I can’t wait to have him back. I have excellent experiences that go back decades with United Temp. They are a superb company. They pride themselves with well-earned excellence, doing their job correctly and wanting the customer to be pleased. Regrettably, American Home Shield had done some business with some other companies that are disappointing, and I would have to use the word very unsatisfied for some other companies that they’ve used.
I had a company who was inferior. I paid the $75 deductible and the contractor did a half-** job. I had to hire someone else. I should’ve called back because of the warranty. The guy was just so focused on his next job, was rushing and didn’t complete the job. For a lot of people it’s common sense that when you have services done it’s really good to have a few choices because you can look them up on reviews. And if one gets, out of 500 reviews, 1 star, you don’t wanna do business with that company. I don’t believe AHS gives a choice. It’s just they give it to you, and then you can call back, or unless you happen to be online you can tell them, “Look, I don’t want this company. I’ve read about them and I want a more reputable company.”
Robert,
I apologize that your experience with us was not satisfactory. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

They were there in three days but then, they had to order parts so they were back in another three days. The technician was very professional and knowledgeable.
Calling in a claim to American Home Shield is almost a waste of time. It takes forever to get anybody on the phone, so I have started using the online service. I prefer to talk to somebody because often, from the experience I just had, if I had another call that deals with the GE Appliance, I’m certain they're gonna want them to handle it, not somebody else. The pool people came out because I had to have them about four times and the one that was sent out wasn’t worth the slip. We had another one come out and they left a mess. They parked in the driveway, left an oil stain in the driveway, and we had pavers.
But the latest contractor we had, a gentleman from Baylis & Baylis, was very nice. He showed us our thermostat because we also had this dehumidifier that was next to it and when it got to a certain humidity, it kicks the thermostat. What had happened is it kicked the thermostat off and I didn’t know that. We were trying to find out why it was cold and it wouldn’t go on. So, we thought it was broken. He explained that it wasn’t and to leave that thing off and quit even trying to deal with it. Ever since we shut it off, we’ve had no problems. If I have an electrical problem, I would ask for them.

The first group that came in did a fairly good diagnosis of what's happening in the two systems, and they got certain things working. He said there was a minute leak on it. But the tech did not have the time and he couldn’t do the job. So American Home Shield had another company called. The second party came in, but all the tech said was that I needed a brand-new system and that he needed to charge me $1,000 for putting in Freon. But I asked him why he was gonna put Freon when the guy told him there was a little leak, so he needs to fix it first. He said he was gonna have to charge me $1,000 to do that. And then he sent me a quote for two new systems coming in, thinking I was gonna go buy that system. But I had problems with heating and air condition before, and I refused to have that same company come see me again.
The second company was using this warranty thing to sell a new system. If they had to put a new system in, then American Home Shield would be paying for it and I'll be paying for it. It was a bait and switch. I waited for the summer to be over, and then I called and they sent this new company called Delta T. They are a third party and they did an excellent job.
The tech was able to get my systems working. It was the wintertime, and he said he was gonna seal it up and test it later when the summertime comes. But he fixed all the things that were wrong, and we did not have to buy a new system. So, he saved me and American Home Shield money. He was on time and courteous and he called me back. He knew what he was doing. He fixed the leak and then he came back again because he knew that the board was gonna go out, and he put a new board in there. We had no heating and air conditioning for about five months, but the issue was resolved and American Home Shield was willing to listen to a customer and not to their contractor.

When the water heater broke, the guy that came out was excellent. But he couldn't do much more over the weekend because he couldn’t get the parts. And it was Thanksgiving. But he came yesterday morning, and did it all. He did a beautiful job. My only difficulty is that when I call American Home Shield, it’s a long hold, and then, when I get someone, they're from the Philippines. They don’t comprehend what I’m saying, and I cannot understand them most of the time. If I ask them without being sounding rude to connect me with someone in the US, they would say they can’t. But it’s not their fault because that’s how they speak and they're halfway across the world. Once in a blue moon, I would be lucky and get someone in the US.
The self-cleaning option of the oven wasn’t working, and the bottom of the oven was eroded. So, it wasn’t working right. It would spark. American Home Shield sent someone out to look at it to decide whether they can fix it or replace it. When the first guy came out, he said it was dangerous and to not use it. He would get back to American Home Shield and see what they could do. I then got a call from American Home Shield, and they said the contractor was gonna drill new holes to the element, and they would be out. I told the rep that was not acceptable because the guy said it was dangerous. And you can’t fix an oven that’s sparking. The rep was very nice and she said she would send another person out to look at the oven to get another opinion.
This was all happening during Thanksgiving. I had 30 people over for dinner, and I didn't know what the heck I was gonna do. So, long story short, they sent someone, and it was a gentleman from Expert Appliance. He looked at it, and he said I cannot use it and that it can’t be fixed. He said that he would tell American Home Shield that I needed a new oven.
American Home Shield agreed to get a new oven and we went through the process and I picked the one closest to mine. So, I picked the GE and I went to Home Depot to look at it to make sure it had all the features mine did, and it did. American Home Shield sent someone out to put the oven in. It came in very fast, and they were trying to put it in for me before Thanksgiving. When they came out, they said the electrical was not up to code and that I needed to have an electrician. Plus the oven was not gonna fit. It needed five-eighths of an inch taken off one side, and I needed to get someone to do that too.
I had to wait until after the long weekend because nobody was available. I got an electrician and he fixed the electrical part. Then the guy was here for an hour and he cut the wood because the cabinets are all handmade. I called A1 Appliance and I spoke to the big boss. He said to have the guy take off five-eighths of an inch on the right side, just on the entrance, on the lip of the oven.
Meanwhile, I called American Home Shield and I got Philippines again, and I said that needed a work order because the contractor had to come back. The rep said, “Yes, ma’am, thank you for that.” They talk like robots. They all say the same thing. And then, they make you repeat everything 100 times because they don't comprehend. But it’s not their fault. That’s just the way it is. I then called the contractor and the guy said he did not get the work order.
This morning, I get the Philippines again and I explained to the girl the situation. I told her that they said they would send the work order, but no such work order was sent. The contractor was waiting on it so they could come back and install the oven after everything was done that they wanted done. I told her that the company name is A1. But she said it was Antech and asked me where did I get A1. I said, “You're asking me? You were the ones that sent them out.” I told her to give me a supervisor. She said the supervisor would call me back. But it didn't work. Then they connected me with installation.
Every time I call, I have to give them my email, my number, my address, my phone, whatever, for security, which I understand. Finally, I got Gary, an American-speaking gentleman. After waiting half an hour to get to him, he put me on hold and then he said the work order was done and the contractor should have it right away, and they would be calling me. But meanwhile, the owner of the A1 company told me to call him. I called him and he said that he didn't have the order yet, but as soon as he did, he would call me back and tell me when they’re coming out. And they just called and said they were coming out tomorrow between 8:00 and 12:00.
The other thing I had an issue with was when the second guy from Expert, I told them that I had another contractor fix my fridge three times, but it still isn’t working right. It’s still freezing over on the bottom drawer. He said he would look at it. It’s not worth it for me to have someone again come out for another $100 to look at the fridge when the man was already here looking at the oven. And he said that it needs a hinge and that he would tell American Home Shield about it. But no one ever contacted me about that. I was so busy fighting about the oven and who’s gonna put it in.
I'm satisfied with American Home Shield but I'm disappointed. I’m very patient, and I’m a businesswoman and I know how to deal with customers. I don't wanna hear, “Thank you for that,” and “Thank you this.” I need actions and I wasn't getting it. My concern is trying to deal with people to understand and not having to repeat myself because they should document everything that a customer says.
American Home Shield gives the reps a sheet, and this is what they have to say, and this is what they go by. And they're doing their best. But meanwhile, the customer is getting frustrated because there’s lack of communication. And to get a supervisor, they have the same issue also. It just doesn't work. I’ll stick with American Home Shield because they did solve my problem eventually. American Home Shield is the best way to go because you don't know when things break down. And when you're a woman alone, it’s very difficult to try to find somebody to come look at things. So it’s still a good deal.

I was with AHS once before, and I dropped them and I went back. I decided that we could use the home warranty. The reps has been fine when I call in a claim over the phone. For my latest claim, Best Care Home Services was fine, except my washing machine is still not fixed, and I’m waiting on them to come back tomorrow with the part ordered for my oven stovetop. I’ve been notified though about them coming back.

At first, I was hearing the drawer where you get the ice open and close. Then, my milk was getting ice in it and it died within a matter of a couple of days. When it did, my control panel got blue and there were funny little lines running through it and nothing would work. So, I called American Home Shield and the contractor came out. The technician said it was the control panel and when he said that it was what was wrong, I agreed. Then, they ordered the part and I was out over a week.
I had medication and stuff in the refrigerator and I didn't know that they would help me get a new fridge. They should have let me know sooner that they could do that. It was almost a week before they let me know so, I was disappointed. But I got a mini fridge and it cost me 189 plus tax but they said they were gonna give me 125, and I’m waiting on them to reimburse me. I have no complaints over the guy and he must have replaced the part. He was back there a bit, and then, he had to go out and get a tool to get it out because everything started working. He had a little trouble reprogramming the thing. The little board on the front wanted to be finicky. He was also not getting a good reception on the phone here so he had to go outside but after he came back in, he programmed it right away. The technician’s service was excellent and it was the best service I’ve had of anyone who has come out here.

My oven stopped working and American Home Shield replaced the whole bottom part of it. So, now it has been working with no problems. The only issue that I have with them is once I filed a claim, they go ahead and take the money out, but it takes a couple of days for someone to even get back to me to schedule an appointment. I shouldn't be charged until that person comes out to make sure they show up.
The last one, when they had to come and fix my electrical, it took them two weeks to come out. When I first kept calling them, they would not answer. When I called American Home Shield, they told me I had to wait for at least 24 to 48 hours to see if they would contact me back and then they would try to contact them. I had to see and wait for American Home Shield to contact them too. And then when somebody finally called me back, they said it would be a week before they would be able to come out. So, I don't like that aspect of it. But other than that, the people that came out did a great work. Each person that comes out to work on something are usually timely, and they communicate with me.

This is the second time that I had the same issue with the stove and I asked for a different company from American Home Shield. So, this was the first time that SRL Services came out. The technician replaced the computer board and the igniter, and I'm happily, completely satisfied with my stove. He was very professional, and he went above and beyond trying to help me fix my refrigerator because a couple of people didn’t send the right parts. So, he went through a lot of hassle to get me what I needed. But I need a compressor and they don't do that. So, another company is coming out Saturday to fix that part. I also have a claim with AHS on my garbage disposal and it's still not fixed.

I submitted a claim online on a Saturday to AHS and their contractor, Hill Country Home, came out to do service on Monday morning. The tech had to order a part and go to San Antonio to pick it up. He came back on Wednesday and replaced the pump. He was very fast and thorough. He cleaned up after himself.

Nick’s Appliance Repair came and the guy did his due diligence and checked whatever he was supposed to check. It’s a Sub-Zero and it’s 33 years old. He said that it was not repairable. The next day, I got a phone call from some other appliance repair in town and I said that it has been checked. They said that American Home Shield called them and wanted a second opinion. After almost 10 days of scheduling and rescheduling, a technician finally showed up. It was a couple of days ago and she said that it just needed some Freon. She said that I was gonna have to take everything out of the refrigerator 24 hours before she comes and to leave the door open. I said that I was going out of town in about a week and I haven't got time for this. She said that she would let AHS know. We left it at that.
The technician hasn't done anything. She said her company will call me to schedule something when I get back, but they never called. It’s been going on way too long. AHS changed their policy and they couldn’t give me a replacement because a Sub-Zero costs about $10,000 and they put a cap on it for $3,000. If it's not a Sub-Zero, at least I could get something new and get on with my life.

We pay $75 a month for essentially a referral service to contractors AHS selects—inept, substandard contractors, as it turns out. Our dyer "repairman" took our control board to "diagnose" and never called us back with a diagnosis, never returned our messages, and soon stopped picking up the phone entirely. AHS couldn't even get a response out of him. Using AHS only ADDED waiting time without a dryer; there was no help here at all. Our electrical "repairman" walked around the house looking puzzled and essentially said that if the lights eventually turned on or at least sometimes worked, then there was no problem. AHS seems to be a scam; there is no service or help here.

I was unable to locate any email that they sent to me. Looked in spam, promotions, etc. Called the contractor. They were very sorry also that I am on day 10 going on 11 of not having hot water. They had not received the parts but were going to get with the distributor to find out why they had not received the parts. Meanwhile... Day 11. Writing reviews is all I have since I don't have hot water.
Original review: Last Friday I learned there was no hot water, called American Home Shield immediately. Was told I needed to contact plumber, Called plumber, left message. No response. Called on Saturday. Got an answering service that said they would contact me on Monday. Called AHS back to see if there was any way to get plumber that could come earlier. They said the contractor had 24 - 48 hours to contact me. He contacted me on Monday and came out on Monday and told us that the hot water heater needed replacement but that the AHS had to approve. I called Tuesday am to find out that it had been approved. Called back the plumber who said that he needed to order the hot water heater which was the rule of the company. Mind you there is a Lowes and Home Depot literally across the street. Today is Friday, 7 days later. I am still without a hot water heater. I am disappointed in the service and the turn around time so buyer beware.

I have a partially blocked sewer line that hooks into the main, that goes into the septic system. I called AHS and told them twice I needed a plumbing company that will snake it out through the toilet because there was no cleanout on that main floor. They gave me a plumbing company who called me and I said they had to go through the toilet and there was no cleanout. So, I waited two more days and the guy came out, took all his notes and asked me questions like why he had to get authorization 'cause they were going through the toilet. I told him I told AHS. He said he would call back the next day, which was a Thursday, but there was no phone call or email.
So, I called AHS Friday, and they said they were gonna charge me $400 to take the toilet off and snake that line. I said what was the sense in me having them do our cleanout. They do a sewer cleanout, with our cleanout, but they won't take a toilet up. I told them I would just cancel AHS. They were to call me and we'll work out some sort of a compromise. I’ve had AHS for almost four years. I’ve have had three claims and this last claims was ridiculous. Also, one of their call service centers must be overseas and I could barely understand what the woman was saying, and she repeated herself four times. My wife and I are seniors retirees and I am a cancer patient as well as a 100% disabled military veteran. We therefore reside on a moderate, fixed income and can ill afford any unnecessary burdens on our already strained financial situation. Unfortunately as a first time homeowner (and lifetime apartment dweller) I had been oblivious to the predatory practices of these home warranty companies. That having been said, here’s our experience with this company.
After years of saving, the Mrs. and I secured a VA loan and purchased a newly constructed home where we will probably live out our days. After residing in the house for about four years we decided to contact AHS and get their advertised repair insurance. We secured a contract with the company and paid the monthly fees on time every time. A few months later our toilet became inoperable so we contacted AHS in regards to the problem. They advised us that they would first need to send a repairmen out to assess the situation but we will need to shell out a $125.00 “service” fee. Ohhh-kayyyy…
The service technician arrived, closed the door to the john, then grunted ‘n’ groaned around in there for bit. He eventually emerges informing us that the toilet is still busted and to complete the repairs he’ll need to use a camera to locate a potential obstruction. He then relates that this procedure will cost an additional $600 and our AHS won’t cover it. We were of course hesitant at which he coaxed that he would give us his special “these look like two stupid old people” senior discount (but just for us). Long story short, we got a guy off of Craigslist to fix our commode for $200.
After a review of our agreement with AHS (which we should have done in the first place) we discovered that they really don’t cover much of anything. We then decided to cancel the remaining contract but were informed by AHS that we would need to pay a $25 “administration fee”. We did so and were guaranteed that this would end our financial obligations to the company.
Shortly after the cancellation date we received a phone call from this corporation’s billing department advising us that we were over 60 days delinquent on our installments. Assuming this must be a mistake I protested that we had terminated our contract some time ago. The phone rep (who rudely snickered under her breath to her coworkers who, judging by their muffled laughter, also found humor in my predicament) replied what we were in fact on the hook for the balance. Nothing more “American” than sticking it to a disabled vet who still suffers from injuries related to protecting snot-noses like her and her boiler room pals!
American Home Shysters is nothing more than an overpriced referral service for overpriced repairmen. If upon the rare occasion they DO cover ANYTHING they will stick you with a “service” fee. You’re basically allowing another unscrupulous corporation (which shares management with foreign investors so again with the whole “American” thing) that has no concern for you other than to gouge your bank account for zip, zilch, nada in return. You’re better off saving up your money or using a credit card so don’t make the mistake of getting involved with these crooks.
Good Morning Gregory,
On behalf of American Home Shield, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience we caused you and your family. Thank you for the time that you did trust us to take care of your systems and appliances in your home. We will definitely be using your review to make our services better. Have an awesome day!

My dad has been with American Home Shield for a long time, and I was trying to look for a company and he recommended them. I gave them a try. I did my most recent claim over the phone because I originally did it online and it teamed me up with Grade A Plumbing, and they never called me back or followed up with me. I called and they said I had to wait for them to email Grade A Plumbing and then eventually, they connected me with this company.
Grade A's service was excellent. The day that they assigned me to that company, I called the next day and they said maybe like Monday they would come out and this was on a Friday. The guy called me Saturday morning and said, "I happen to be in your area. Are you available?" When I said I was, he came over and fixed it that day. It took not even 24 hours. The guy was on point and a pleasure to work with.
I'm kinda getting used to American Home Shield right now. I added a few claims. There was a couple of things that I might have been not happy with, but they eventually resolved them. It's just that I had to pay like $474 when Grade A Plumbing came out for another issue that I had because it wasn't completely covered in the contract. I spoke with a couple of friends of mine that were plumbers and they thought that I got ripped off. It wasn't really the fault of American Home Shield because they were going by the contract, but maybe it was the contractor they hired.
There was one other issue too, and it was with my mini split AC unit. There was an error code on it. And I had someone come out and they said it was a surge issue and then they wouldn't cover it. They didn't even give me the option of a second opinion. They just denied the claim. I had an outside company come in and they said it wasn't a surge. The units were grounded. It was a completely different issue. I went back to American Home Shield and eventually, they took a while but they let me go to the claims department and get reimbursed the cost that I paid the other provider. They did do that, but it took a lot of digging to get them to do that for me. I'm happy with how things are turning out right now. I'm really happy with the fix that they've done. So far, so good.

I heard a lot about American Home Shield from friends and how the coverage really worked. I thought it was worthwhile investing in it and bought into the plan July of this year. When my washer wouldn’t spin, I made a claim and it was automated, but I asked for a representative and spoke with a person. They sent Pender and they were very professional and timely in coming out after receiving the call. They checked the washer and fixed it the first time. They put a wire, but Melvin told me it might hold and it might not. I washed and it went through a couple of cycles. The fix held for a week, then the same thing happened. It stopped again, so I called American Home Shield and Pender ordered a motor.
Since I started this whole thing, I spoke with Samantha each time and she's been very caring and concerned about the fact that I’m without a washer and have been out for at least two weeks. The guy from Pender came out on Monday to put the motor in, and it still wouldn’t work. They determined that it was something going on with the wiring. I spoke with American Home Shield yesterday and they did a search to try and find the part that was needed. It’s no longer available, so they are replacing the washer. I’ve been without a washer longer than I would’ve been had I gone to Sears to get one once it quit, but I understand that it’s the process and they wanna do the search and make sure that no part’s available.

I called AHS at 6:00 in the morning and the contractor was at my place before 10:00 that morning too. He was early, did a good job, quickly diagnosed it and had the parts with him, so it worked out pretty well. My water heater is working.

I had a plumbing issue and the company Home Shield sent out kept saying that he needed to go to the roof and that wasn't covered. He spent 40 minutes trying to get that through the insurance company. Finally, I told him there is a way that he could do it underneath the ground and he wouldn't have to go the roof. So he finally did, but my sink was so clogged up. He said that someone should reach me Monday. Monday came around, no one talked to me. Tuesday, I called them and they said that they were done because the insurance company denied the claim to fix it through the roof. Then, I called American Home Shield and they said the same thing, it's not covered. I tried to explain to the rep that he never touched the sink. He never even went underneath to look at what was going on. He just left because it was a Friday night and he just wanted to get it done because it was 9 o'clock when he was working on my plumbing.
I told the rep to go back to the call records and she'd see that the tech said he wanted to go to the roof. She saw that and she got somebody else, free of charge. Because my concern was the fact that every time they come out, it's $75. They said they could get a second opinion and if the second contractor agrees with the last guy, they would charge me 75 bucks. I said it was not fair because it could be the same thing, but we don't know for sure. She sent somebody out and he fixed it in 30 minutes and I didn't have to pay. I was glad the rep listened to me and she understood my concern as a consumer.
I had another claim with my AC and they didn't cover it. The AC drips water and there's a clog in the line and they said that my AC is covered and my AC is fine. The problem was the drain line, even though it is a component. That was my first experience and it wasn't good. With this plumbing claim, it was about to be a bad experience. I was gonna be really upset to have to wait for 24 hours only for them to say it's not covered and then have to pay another person $75. It's like any other company, there are a lot of grey lines. Also, when it comes to second opinions, I feel like there should be more flexibility on the trade fee.

The microwave wasn't working. American Home Shield assigned Pro Appliance to us but we had the information before Pro Appliance had it. There was a delay of about 24 to 36 hours which was unexpected and when I reached out to Pro, they said that they didn't know. There may be a communication breakdown between them. Once it was communicated, it was fine. Pro Appliance came and diagnosed the problem, along with that, they then went and ordered the part, and updated us over the course of about a week, and then returned and fixed the microwave. I've only had good experiences with AHS.

One of the hoses on the hot water heater had burst. I called American Home Shield and when I spoke with the representative, she put me on hold and said she was gonna see who could come right then. They sent out a tech in a couple of hours. But it was immediate. The tech beat me there from work but my husband was there. He was very professional and he explained it to where it made sense to us and we understood it. He was almost done when I got there. He went in the attic, and he explained what the situation was. He said it wasn’t the hot water heater. He talked about the type of hose that it was and from his experience, that type of hose usually gives out on the hot water side. He checked the hose on the cold water side, and it was fine. So far, the hot water heater seems to be fine.
I have a claim for my washing machine and I'm kind of disappointed. It would not spin and this is the third repair company that’s coming out. At this point, when does it get replaced? I’ve called and said replace it, but apparently, my word is not good enough. A guy came out on Monday and he said some wires were loose and that he tightened them up. He had the cover off. He said that the washing machine appeared to be spinning. And it looked like it was. When he left, he told me to put a load of clothes in there and he would call me in a couple of hours to see if it went through the whole cycle and spun the clothes around.
At the end of the cycle, that small load of clothes was soaking wet. It did not spin, and it did not rinse. So I called back and they said that I had to report it back to American Home Shield so they could come back out. This has been going on since last year, and at this point, I’m really frustrated with it. My washing machine does not work, and what is it gonna take for somebody to decide that they can’t fix it?
American Home Shield keeps sending another contractor out. I spoke to the representative when I called before and she said the second people that came out didn’t recommend replacing. The tech just said that he wasn’t able to fix it and told American Home Shield to send somebody else. That’s ridiculous because this is the third company and the first time they came out, it was not fixed. And now, they have to come back again. But they couldn’t come on Thursday where it’s convenient for us. So now, we have to wait all the way until next week for them to send the same guys back out who didn’t fix it yesterday. If the last guy said he can’t fix it, why send somebody else when that was the second company already?
I’ve had to call American Home Shield several times and they have done a good job. It’s just the doggone washing machine that’s really making me have ill feelings towards American Home Shield. I have a washer and dryer at home so that I don’t have to go to the laundromat. But now, I’m going to the laundromat. So why am I paying them if they’re not gonna do something about it?

We called on Monday and the contractor came on Friday, which was a bit of an inconvenience. When they came, my husband was here and he said they were amazing. I had a different service last year and recently changed to AHS. Submitting my claim with them seemed easy. Last year, the door on my microwave would not shut and I couldn't use the microwave. Someone came and fixed it. But the contractor they originally tried to send was so rude to me on the phone when I tried to make the appointment. I had the same problem with the microwave after I changed to AHS and they sent a different company to fix it. The tech who fixed it was very pleasant and informative. He explained to me what was going on. I really liked the guy and said that next time, I would ask him to come back. The microwave has been working fine since then. I’m happy with AHS.

I have two contracts with American Home Shield for two different houses. We moved a couple months ago and there's been three claims over here, and all of them have been great except I have one here for a thermostat and they sent the contractor to the old address. The rep used the wrong contract. If that representative have paid a little closer attention, we wouldn't have that issue. That issue delayed the service. But they corrected it when I called them back yesterday after the local company called me and said they were at the wrong place and couldn't get here. And the person's on the way right now.
For all the other claims it's been quick. The reaction time has been super. I called AHS for a garbage disposal that was not working properly, and for that event they did a great job. Both contractors AHS sent have been great. They've had very good representation with the service people. I've been very pleased until this last one because it has been pretty cool this week, and I was hoping to get the thermostat fixed yesterday. So hopefully it would be fixed today.

I've been with American Home Shield for 30 years now. Every time I bought a house, I've always required the seller to provide a year's worth of American Home Shield, and I just kept it. And they've always had good results. Whenever I had issues or problems, they pretty much took care of my problems. Recently, Beaches Air Conditioning & Heating did a good job. I was really pleased with them. They came out on time like they said they were going to. They showed up when they're supposed to, and the guy was very knowledgeable, and it didn't take about 15 minutes to fix it. So, I was really happy with that. However, there had been some contractors that I wasn't too pleased with because they didn't really keep me in the loop or they just kinda showed up without calling ahead. But for the most part though, they pretty well worked with me and kept me informed of what was going on.
I've had some go-arounds dealing with AHS as far as their call center as well. I get people in the Philippines or somewhere and I get some people that I can't understand. They have such a heavy accent and I just have a terrible time. When I'm trying to set something up, it's just hard to understand somebody like that. They probably can't understand me either. But that doesn't have much to do with actual service I get and I'm happy with AHS.

I've had American Home Shield for about 20 years now, and I've had some good and bad experience with them. My most recent one was wonderful, and they were professional and they did what they said they needed to do. The claim was for a cooktop that wouldn't light anymore, and somebody came out to try to fix it but wasn't able to fix it. American Home Shield suggested that we replace it, and so, a team came out yesterday and took the old one away and put the new one in.
The bad part is that I used to have American Home Shield with my rentals but I have dropped them for all of the rentals. With my own home, I can sort of tolerate delays and the people. But with renters, they want everything to be perfect and fixed fairly soon, and they gripe about it. For example, a few years ago, a renter's air conditioning went out. And with American Home Shield having only one air conditioning service outfit in all of Las Vegas, they get backed up in the summertime. Renters will tolerate something that's reasonable, but they were without air conditioning for about a week and a half in the middle of a hot summer here in Las Vegas, so it was not so good. So, I hired an outfit, who came out right away, and then I paid the price myself.
And for some of my things, over the years, American Home Shield was such a pain. I just replaced the stuff myself, like my dishwasher. American Home Shield's contractor would come out and supposedly fix it, but about two weeks later, it would flood again. My basement is kind of a playroom, where I have a pool table and a ping-pong table, and at the third time that the dishwasher overran and leaked into my basement, I replaced the dishwasher. The same is true for a couple of other appliances. Rather than going through American Home Shield, if it's not too expensive, I just replace it myself.
Right now, I have a refrigerator that has a way to have water come out, but it hasn't put out any water for about two years. Am I supposed to see if American Home Shield will fix that? Probably not. I have other ways of getting water, so I just let that go. Still, I keep American Home Shield for myself because, for major things, maybe it'll be all right. I have friends that have other outfits, and they're not any better. But for my rentals, it just doesn't work out.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

One time, my washing machine was shaking badly in the spin cycle. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and their website was very straightforward. I didn't have to do a lot of searching and submitting was very easy to do. They got back to me in 24 hours and told me who would be handling my claim. They said Advanced Appliance Services would be contacting me for an appointment. The claim went perfectly. My washer is old and they had to order a few parts. Within a few weeks, they returned and finished the repairs. There were two different repairmen each time and they were both very knowledgeable. They fixed my issue as quickly as they could. Everything has been fine since the repair. I have two kids so if we can't do laundry in our house, it's catastrophic. It’s nice to know that we can get things fixed quickly without a lot of headaches.

Air One Heating & Air Conditioning came out to do service. The techs said that there was no gas going to my heater and they left. I called the gas company and they explained that my change of address did not take effect. Once that was fixed, my heat turned on with no problem.
After another day or two, my heat went out again. I called AHS and they sent Air One again. The techs fixed the motor of my heating system and it worked fine for about three or four days before going out again. I called again and they came back out the third time and noticed that there’s a bad gas valve and they fixed that as well. Now, my heating system is working okay. Air One responded so quickly and everybody at American Home Shield has been very nice. It's a pain in the butt to have to call three times, but we wanna make sure the system is running correctly. I had to hire somebody with them and pay to get things fixed, and they would reimburse me over the course of the next month or so. I didn’t like that. And they still charged me the $500 fee. With American Home Shield, you don’t have to call anybody. Just click on what broke down, pay the $75, and they come out. I've used them four times and every time, it works out perfectly. For my range hood, they sent North East Electrical. For my refrigerator and my washer, they sent the Bennet people. Both of them were super nice and super knowledgeable. The tech from Aces Garage Door Repair and Installation worked on my garage door opener. He replaced the computer board and that did not do it, so he had to come back a week later. It was then the sensors. So, I appreciated the guy. He was very nice and quick to diagnose it. A year ago, last October, I had an experience with a plumber, and I felt like sometimes American Home Shield does not choose the best companies. I had sewage that my toilet backed up into my shower and it was a mess. So, I called somebody. The guy who came out did something on the front lawn where the sewer line was, and he had to pull all the junk out and the toilet paper on my lawn. Then he left it and he did not clean it up. I had a bad hip and I could not bend down, and he said, "Oh no, I'm not allowed to touch that." That did not sound very professional at all, so I was not happy with it.
That contractor also did not have cameras that go down in the sewers. In other words, he said, "Oh, they're too expensive." The problem repeated, and I had the city come out and they did it for absolutely free. They put the camera down there and found out that it was all tree roots. So, the first plumber did not do anything. So, sometimes, I get people that are not very professional. I'm not happy that the price keeps going up, too. I started at 46 and now it's at 54. Then, when somebody comes out, it's $75, and that is a fee too. So in the five years that I've had it, I've put out quite a bit. It's $500 a year, so it is a lot, and I keep almost reconsidering if this is worth it. One other thing is that when I'm having a problem, it is difficult to get ahold of AHS. One time, I waited for 15 minutes until I spoke with a real person.

While I was out of town, my husband said it quit working again. Somebody else came and had to put in a new thermostat. They even had to stay late into a Friday evening and we were really impressed that they stayed until it was finished.
We’re trying American Home Shield's electronic coverage, which is a little trickier because it’s fairly new for them. It is not as fast and not as efficient. We sent out the computer to be worked on, but it would take a while since it has to go to Texas. We also had to wait for the kit to package the computer up for safety, but they kept us in the know when they received the computer and that they were working on it. We're going on three weeks. But overall, we’ve been impressed with AHS.

Yesterday, we called AHS to change one of our insurances with them which is on a property we bought one year ago. We wanted the insurance for that to be with the other insurances we have. We have with Home Shield a total of six houses, our house and five others that are rentals. The last of those insurance policies expire in January. The lady whom we talked to told us that our insurance for the house we bought one year ago would stay independent ’til the others mature, and then she can do something about them. We prefer if that could be done quicker rather than us calling AHS again. We had a recent claim for our heater that was not working and the repairer sent by AHS came and fixed it. About a week after, it was not working again. We called AHS and the guy who came then was very kind. It happened that there was another problem with the heater. We are satisfied with the service.

American Home Shield sent out Associated Electric when we had a claim for an electrical issue. There was like a blown fuse and they took care of that. But it turned out that there was a little more involved than that, so I called Home Shield back. When Home Shield called them to come back and take care of the problem, Associated Electric wanted us to do a separate, new claim and pay again even though it was the same problem. But the Home Shield folks said it was just the same thing and got them to come out. So they came out the same day and took care of it. I didn’t have any problems after we got that straightened out. Submitting a claim online was very straightforward and easy. We’ve done two claims now, and it’s been pretty easy to get a hold of people and get things arranged.

We’ve had American Home Shield for quite a long time and we always had good service with them before. This is the only time we’ve ever had an issue and it was an issue. It wasn’t like the contractor came out twice, made a mistake and had to fix it again. I can live with that. But it was year. What we had to go through was not acceptable. This company was out there 12 times trying to fix the refrigerator. In nine of those times, they didn’t know what they were doing. The freezer kept freezing over and there were ice crystals over everything.
The first time, American Home Shield sent Sears out and they fixed what you would expect the problem to be – the fan. But after that, for some reason, American Home Shield started working with this other company and it was just a mess. We had to throw food out three times because they’d say the fridge was fixed but then it wasn’t. We spent hundreds of dollars worth of food. For 11 months, this company played around with the fridge instead of replacing it. But American Home Shield refused to assign another company to us until finally, they sent another. This third company tried to fix two things and finally said the fridge was not worth fixing. We are finally in the process of getting a replacement instead.
We’re now waiting for the replacement to be delivered. It has been about a week. But we had to purchase a fridge first then American Home Shield would reimburse us a certain amount. It was a decent settlement. But I don’t know what somebody would do if they didn’t have the money to do that. American Home Shield had given us options but we had a small size space to put one in and they didn’t have the options we needed.
Also, when you call for service, it goes over to the Philippines and you can never talk to anybody higher up than that person. If you have a complaint and you wanna go to a supervisor, there’s no way. They won’t give you any number to anybody in the States or anybody that can handle your request. Up until my last call with them, they would not even give me the phone number or address to their home office.

He was really professional and he was done really quickly. He did a really great service. Since he'd been out, everything has been working really well.
We also had a company who came to fix my refrigerator, and they did a really bad job. The guy wasn’t professional. After he left, my refrigerator stopped to make ice. And before that, it was making ice. They were taking almost two weeks to come back to fix it. I called in the company, and they told me as soon as they'd receive the part, they would come back. The guy was looking mad when he showed up maybe because I called in his company. And after, he’s put the part, he wouldn’t clean at all. He took off the gasket for the door to put in the replacement. When I asked if he could take his trash, he said, "No, we’re not taking trash.” He kept everything on the floor. He just went away, and I was really mad for that.
Now, it just stopped making ice. But I’m not calling again because they wanna charge me another $75. I paid the guy something. After he fixed it, I don’t understand why there's another part that was broken because it was working good before he touched it. But other than that, with a home warranty, I feel there's protection for all of my appliance. Everything I have is too expensive and to get a consultation from outside is more expensive. With AHS, it’s really fast to find somebody professional. They have a license and the warranty they are offering covers everything.

Usually when I went online to make a form for something, I got an answer right away, and then whoever Home Shield sent notified me right away that they would be out. And then that company would contact me again and let me know between what time. So, sometimes Home Shield did all right. I only have one contractor at one time that I didn't care for. It was a while back. I called the company and told them, “Don’t send that person back out to my house.” That was with the air condition. But for the most part, I’ve been satisfied with everybody else.
The microwave now works fine. The Astro Appliance tech replaced three of those switches that are inside an electric panel where you just press your buttons. He checked the outlet and he pulled that aloose, and he found out. Because before, the microwave wasn't saying and one day it was working. The next day we tried to use it, it wouldn’t light up and it wasn’t the outlet that you plug it into. It was behind the panel which you press for when you get ready to heat something up. But then yesterday, I broiled a steak so I turned the vent fan on because my smoke detectors were going off. But then when I was finished with the steak, it came on automatically and then it wouldn’t turn off. You couldn't press the buttons for the vent to go off. So, I unplugged it and then I plugged it back. It's working, but I haven't used the vent. So, I don’t know what else is going on with that. But other than that, everything was working fine until that did it yesterday.

Comfort First was awesome. My heat was fixed and they didn’t give up ‘til they found the problem. The blower went out and a piece on the outside unit caused the blower to go. It took them one day to come out and four days with everything. When the first blower that they put in quit, they came back, rechecked everything and got another blower. Billy, Daniel and Lucracia took their time, didn’t rush through, took pictures of the unit and showed me what was going on. We weren’t left hanging. I’m so glad I signed up with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield booked the appointment with the rekey guy and he was very good. Another claim was for the heater and the tech didn't show up. I didn't get a call, so I canceled. I called another vendor and the fix was out of my pocket. I did another booking yesterday (for the washing machine) and I’m waiting for a call from the contractor. I booked over the phone and the representative was good. He understood the problem and adjusted the previous claim with the new one.

I was with AHS before when I first got my house which was 2006. But then I ran into some problems. And then I got back with them because they were good. They handle our problem. They really take care of you. My latest experience was when my heat went out. There were two parts they had to order, and they came right on time. The contractors explained everything. They showed me the different parts, and I was really glad.

Last June, American Home Shield sent out a company for my dryer. It was making noise and the man said that nothing was wrong with it. He said that the noise was because the top of my dryer was hitting the drum, but it wasn’t that. Moreover, he was rude. The noise got worse and worse. Finally, my dryer wasn’t working and I had to call AHS back. They said it wasn’t on warranty because it was four months later. It upset me that I had to pay another copayment. However, Max, the man from Savvy that came out was very nice and awesome. He took my whole dryer apart and found out the problem. AHS does a good job when I call to get someone to look at my appliances or whatever needs to be fixed.

The guy that came out was excellent. American Home Shield called him at the last minute, he came by my house, asked me what appliance needed to be fixed, he looked at it, told me he’d get back to me, got back to me, had the part, came in and replaced it. By the time he got done, he called me up. It was easy, and he installed it really quick. He was awesome. Best one yet.

A co-worker had American Home Shield and pretty much when you google it, it pops up quickly. I've also had plenty of letters coming to the mail with American Home Shield. So, I went with them. I had two claims, one for my garage door and one that was electrical for a breaker. The contractors were efficient and were on time. The electric one, I liked that they had a GPS and I was able to track them as they were progressing to the house. Both of them did very good. They also did some recommendations that I could do to avoid any other mechanical breakdowns. Some exterior coverage like on sprinklers would be cool, too.

American Home Shield was doing a lot of TV advertising and I heard about them there. I have some banker friends and they're very persnickety. They bought the home warranty and they had two appliances fail the first year and they had to be replaced completely. They said AHS was professional about the whole thing and didn't complain or drag their feet. The only thing about AHS is that it’s hard to contact them. One time, I did the claim by phone and one time, I did it by computer but it took me a long time to find the number to call them. When it says, “Contact us,” that ought to mean “contact us”.
I had a law partner for 27 years and he always told me to fix appliances. When he died, I knew I was in the woods because I grew up in an apartment in New York. So, I immediately bought the home warranty. AHS saved my life. The first time I called them, it was because my dishwasher wasn't working and it turned out there was a switch I had turned off, which was a silly thing, but I didn't know it existed. So, it was worth it for me to pay $100 to have somebody come out and explain to me what order to do things in.
I signed up with American Home Shield in July and this is the second time I've called them out. I discovered the problem on a late Tuesday afternoon and the contractor couldn't make it out until Friday but that's just the way it works. Once they got here, the guy went right to work. He stayed about 45 minutes and he said that I needed a part. My washing machine is an old one and they were able to diagnose the problem and find the part. They came back with the part on Monday and fixed it. They cleaned up the area and didn't leave grease marks. They worked the whole time they were here and they got it done. They took care of it, they were polite, and they left.
One of my co-workers said that if my air conditioner goes out, all that AHS would do is give me $3,000. I'm only paying 500 a year, so that seems like a pretty good return to me. They also fixed my washer. A home warranty is a brilliant concept and I hope AHS could financially survive as in not go out of business. I paid the whole year upfront and I really liked it. It was just one thing where I didn't have to worry about the bill coming in every month. I was confident that AHS was gonna help me and be there for me.
Good afternoon Joan,

When I filed a claim for my dishwasher, American Home Shield sent out Express Appliance, a place that was based out of Jersey. It was a more formal company with answering machines and different departments. The guy came out and said that such and such part was needed. When he came back to fix the dishwasher, he realized that he had to pull the dishwasher out and that he needed a plumber. I got very upset. He said that he'd been doing this for a long time. I said that if he even had an inkling that it was a copper pipe, he should have looked. He was not nice about it and didn't apologize. I didn't want him to come back.
AHS was good though and finally got the plumber here. He put a flexible line in. And then, when the Express Appliance guy came back, he didn't want to come into the house. Moreover, the people at Express Appliance didn't call me back because I had a problem with them. He had ordered the part and I didn't want him to take the part. I said to leave the part here. I didn't even wanna do business with that company anymore.
In the interim, I put in a fridge claim as well. It has a Freon issue. Apparently, there are only two people on Long Island that handle fridges for Express Appliance and only one can do Freon. And it was that guy so I'm out of luck. I finally got to AHS and I gave Express Appliance as poor a rating as possible. Even the customer service rep said she didn't like dealing with the guy.
AHS then sent Limelite, which seemed to be a two-person firm on Long Island. They were great and communicated with me. On the phone, I told the guy what the problem for the dishwasher was. Also, he diagnosed the fridge problem on the phone and told me what to do as a temporary measure. He came with the fan that needed to be replaced because it wasn't spinning. He told me if the fridge didn't come back up, then it was a computer part. In the interim, somebody from AHS called and said that the part was not available and it had to be rebuilt, which would take five weeks. Otherwise, they would just give me the cost towards the refrigerator.
The Limelite guy found the part, came back and replaced it. The fridge's door is customized with cabinets so I'm glad that he was able to find the part because I really didn't wanna buy a new fridge. It was a little hard getting through to some of AHS's reps and having them understand the process. But in the end, AHS did the right thing. Within the original charge, they had the plumber come out, do what he had to do and had people come back to do a very expensive repair.
Your concerns are understood regarding the contractor that serviced your dishwasher. Are you still in need of assistance with the repair?

I had a corroded hot water heater and American Home Shield sent out Hardy Plumbing. They were very prompt in getting in touch with me and they were extremely prompt in getting here to help us, which was great because I did have a big family coming in for Christmas. They were very wise in that they asked me to send them a photo of what was there and they asked me to send them measurements of the doorway getting down to the cellar. They fixed it when they came out and I have nice hot water.
I had a call-in two weeks ago because my furnace went out over the weekend and no one ever called me. I called American Home Shield and they said they had not been able to find an HVAC person to help me. I told them to cancel it. So I'm still without heat, but I have a company that has a maintenance agreement with me and I already paid for the winter service. It is a maintenance situation, but if it’s a repair situation, then I’ll call American Home Shield. My concern is that there was some problem in finding somebody working with HVAC on the weekend. It is a problem if they can't get service. But with the plumber, they jumped on it right away. This particular plumber was even working on the weekend.
I've been with American Home Shield for many years. A couple of years ago at my other home in Russell, I had an appliance vendor and after they came, I noticed that a part of my front of my icemaker had been broken off. And they denied the claim. There was something not right about those people. Also, it’s a different market. It’s not Washington, Georgia. So far, I've been pleased with American Home Shield in my Georgia property.

I couldn't get anybody to come out until the Tuesday because it was over the weekend. I already had water damage and all floors had to be replaced, but it was neither their nor the company's fault. But, other than that, it went okay. They were quick, they fixed the issue within minutes. They knew exactly what was the problem. So, it turned out good. American Home Shield is great. The process was quick and the AHS automated system took care of everything. I didn't have to speak to a representative. The automated system was very clear on a lot of things, and then I received my email promptly. I was very impressed.

So far, American Home Shield has been one for two. When I called about a plumbing problem, I got absolutely no satisfaction. But when I had no heat and called the number I’m supposed to call, the contractor who came was wonderful. It took him three visits, but he kept me updated and let me know when he was on the way. He came right away and tried to solve the problem, but it didn’t work. Then he came back again the same day, finally figured it out and solved the problem. He discovered that he was gonna have to replace some parts, which took a few days to come in. He came back as soon as possible and the heat has been fine.

The electrical claim was fantastic. The contractor came out the next day. He probably spent five minutes listening to what the problem was, looking at the outlet, and he knew pretty quickly what was wrong. He was able to fix it in that visit and took care of everything. And it didn't cost me anything extra. I was glad that was my first encounter, 'cause the next one was not so great. I wasn't upset with the contractor. I was not pleased with the coverage of the warranty from American Home Shield. I have two gas furnaces in my attic, and both the gas regulators that were right there on the side of furnace and control the gas that went into them to make them work were both leaking and the gas company had come out and red tagged them. The gas company told me I needed a plumber to come out and fix that, to replace them. So, I had told AHS I needed a plumber, and they did what I asked for and sent out a plumber.
A plumber came out, and I had to pay the service fee. The plumber looked at them and said he couldn't do anything with it 'cause he was not an HVAC guy. He called his company and they said they could try to get one of their HVAC guys to come out. The temperatures were in the 30's during the day here and I had no heat. So, we got on the phone with the warranty company, and they would not let them do that. They would not let them work that out within their company. They had to go through a whole separate process. They charged me a separate service fee because it was a different industry, rather than let this company take care of it within themselves.
I could've paid $25 to this company to send another service guy out instead of another $75 for a separate call. When they finally got someone to come out, the guy went up in the attic and said it was our regulator and I said that was what the gas company said. After all that, the home warranty company said they do not cover that and that was not part of my my furnace and they didn't cover gas regulators. They could've told me that before I paid them $150. I'm not gonna be renewing my home warranty. My realtor gave AHS to me when I bought the house, so that was nice of him. But to me, it seems pointless. But the guys at the HVAC place, Guaranteed Services were phenomenal. They knew exactly what they were looking at. They ordered the part and the day the part showed up, they got me on the schedule for the very next morning, and they came out and had the parts installed within 20 minutes.
I was unhappy with AHS. I felt like they took a whole lot of money from me to do nothing, other than call a company to come out and do something, which I could've done. When I told them that my gas regulators to the furnace were leaking and that was what was needed to be fixed, they could have just flat out said they didn't cover that instead of charging me the $75 to send somebody out, and then ending up sending out two contractors, so it cost me $150. I felt that was a dishonesty.

When I make claims with AHS, I call over the phone and speak to a person. I don't go through the prompts. I know you can request service online, but I’ve tried that before and my experience wasn’t the best. I prefer to speak with a live representative so that I know upfront and so that I can ask questions in terms of what to expect. Sometimes when you have the service calls and those technicians come out, some of them will do the repair and you pay the $75 service fee. But some would say that it’s gonna be an additional cost.
I had a service request with AHS that was kind of an add-on to do a drywall repair. Initially, I had a request for a plumbing leak where the pipes had to be replaced and so the plumbers had to open an access hole. The tech came to replace that. The work itself was fine and it was better than the other company that AHS sent a couple of years back. The only thing that was a little surprising was I had to pay an additional cost. He said he had to cut a larger hole and repair that drywall. That was an additional cost that wasn’t covered by AHS. I paid it because I wanted to have the matter closed out so I could get the ceiling repainted.
I’ve been with AHS for maybe more than 13 years and as a matter of fact, I have them on another property. They’ve been good. I’ve had some experiences like the recent issue that I had where this matter was just fixed and I had to request other companies to come out instead of the companies that they sent. This doesn't apply to everybody, though. When some of the technicians come and if they don't wanna do the work, they would say that the issue was caused by something else. Based on what is placed on the ticket when they complete the order, they write what they were doing.
An example was when I had was a plumbing leak. I noticed that every time I turned the AC on, water was coming from underneath the AC. It seemed like someone was taking a cup and just pouring water down to the next floor. I called AHS for several service requests. They were always diligent in sending someone out. The companies that came out kept on telling me it was condensation, but it couldn't be condensation because of how the water was literally draining. Finally, after about two years with the issue, a technician came and said it was not condensation and he had to open up the ceiling. When he did, he saw the leak and a plumber had to come out. They fixed the matter but it took several service requests, so it just depends on the technician.
If I have a good experience with a company, I just request them back when I have a similar problem. I think sometimes that if a contractor feels like they're not going to make a lot of money or they're limited to how much they can charge, then they're not interested in doing the work. That’s been my experience. If I have a plumbing matter, I call AHS and tell them who I want to come because they’ve been here before. They work and they don't tell me it's this when it’s something else.
If I had a bad problem with a company and tell AHS I don't want that specific company, they’ve never said, “No, you have to take this person.” They immediately address it. The only thing is they can’t control how the technicians respond to the customer. I can’t expect them to do that. The issues I’ve had were with the company. But I know how to deal with the companies now. I watch what they do and I ask questions.

The face bowl and the sink were stopped up in my bathroom and when I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield, I had some problems with the website, so it was probably not the best. It was fine this time because I only had one issue but the service before that wasn't too friendly when I had an electrical issue. There were three lights that were not coming on when I flipped the switch. When the gentleman came out, he said he could only do one service call because that was what I had requested and I needed to call back. When I tried to call the company, he didn't wait. He didn't bother for AHS to answer the phone. He was in the truck and he waited a few minutes, but it took longer for AHS to respond to the call. He said that if I got somebody, they could call him or they would call him back.
I ended up going out of town. When I got back, I called and the representative from AHS told me that since I wanted more than one thing serviced, I needed to make a phone call to request that because the online system isn't equipped for multiple calls. There’s no place there that tells me that if I want more things, I need to do more stuff. Had I talked to somebody while the contractor was there, then they could have amended it but since it was already done and it was on, I could do another service call.
I had plumbing in the kitchen and a plumbing issue in the bathroom, and the contractor, Water Control, took care both of them. I had more than one fixture and he said that it had a lifetime warranty. We could call them and the fixtures would be replaced. When the fixtures come in, he would come back out. He was quite helpful and he went beyond. He was very accommodating. Then, I had the guy who came for the stove. He spent some time trying to fix the stove, then he said he needed to order a part. I ended up having to call back because he never came back. Apparently, the guy that fixed the stove had resigned or no longer works there. AHS sent another guy out who didn't know what he was coming for. I told him that they were supposed to be doing in a part and he said they didn’t even have any parts and they need to order them.
I used to be able to pay for the service call once it was completed using my bank but AHS is no longer able to do that. They may have sent something and said something, but I didn't see it. With the stove, the contractor started working on it in one month and they finished it eight weeks later. I paid eight weeks in advance for the service that wasn't completed. Now the guy with the lights, I paid $125 for him to switch out a plug. I told him that I could have hired an electrician for $40 and had that done. The beauty is getting stuff done that I need in a bulk. If three things are broken and I can get three things fixed for $125 that's fine. But if I have to call three times to get three things fixed, $400 is not efficient. I will be canceling AHS in February as soon as I can get to February and not forget.
