Our hot water heater wasn't working. I did a claim to American Home Shield online. Their website was user-friendly. The contractor got here within one or two days. They texted and said exactly the time frame. Then 30 minutes before they came, they called. They were on top of everything.

The washer wasn't draining. We put a claim in with Home Shield on a Saturday afternoon and the contractor called me Monday morning. They opened at 9:00 and they called me just after that. They were able to come out the very next day and they replaced the drain pump. It took them all of 40 minutes and everything's been fine. This was our first claim and the process was very easy overall.

When there was something being heated, whether it was water for a cup of tea or frozen vegetables for dinner, I would start to smell something. I described it to my wife as like burnt hair. It was only intermittent, when the microwave was running for more than a minute or two. If we’re just warming something up for 30 seconds, it didn't happen. I noticed that a couple of weeks before my wife did and when she noticed it too, we were going to call in.

Just before we called though, we started to warm something up and the microwave stopped running and it went completely dark. That was just after a few seconds. We double checked the breakers and then we unplugged the microwave and plugged it back in. None of the breakers tripped, but the microwave stopped. We did a claim with American Home Shield and an individual serviceman came out. He completed the work and fixed our microwave. The appliance was working when he left, which is what I would expect.

The blower fan on the furnace did not work. The technician got down in there and assessed what was wrong. However, he kinda left without talking to us so I called his company, Command, and they said he had to get a part. He apologized for not telling us what he was doing and that he left. They got the part from Friday to Tuesday and the same technician came in. He's pretty knowledgeable and knew what to do. He got everything hooked back up again. The Command office people called frequently and texted so they were very good. The Home Shield experience was good too. They are a great company. They got on the problem we had right away and the same day had made contact with the repair people. The repair person was there the same day so you can't fault them for anything there. They were very responsive.

I submitted a claim for my garbage disposal which was leaking water from the bottom. American Home Shield kept me updated and said they had already assigned a contractor. The sent an update saying that an appointment had been scheduled and that the contractor would reach out to me. The tech called when he was on his way and he asked if I was gonna be at my place. He came, serviced my disposal and said that the bottom had already rotted out. So, he had to replace the whole unit. Overall, I love American Home Shield. Their warranty saves me the hassle of having to go find someone to do a job for me. It's a lot easier for me just to contact AHS.

When I requested for service, the process was very easy and American Home Shield had a very quick response time. The technician looked at my air conditioning and said it was going well. This unit is in an apartment building and the system sends cold water and presses air. It wasn't cold enough but in a certain area, it was really cold. I didn't understand it, so I kept turning on the air con. I came from a house with a different system and I wasn't used to the one in the apartment building. The issue was not something to be fixed.

AHS has been great for me. I had an issue with the AC recently and the guy who came out was very professional, on time, and communicated well. Before he came, the AC wouldn't turn on and when he went on the outside part of the unit, there was some electrical something going on. He had to replace a couple of parts so it would turn on and he had all the parts with him. He fixed it right away and that was pretty awesome service.

I used the American Home Shield online account portal for the claim. Everything was clear out there, so I didn't have any confusion. What we saw was the top section of the freezer was freezing up. And then the bottom shelf was freezing. After the repair was done, it was a top shelf that was freezing. But when he inspected it, he said that it was all fine. It could be just a misalignment on the door. But it was all fine after that. The guy from AH Appliance Repair who came in also came in for my previous repairs as well. He was very accommodating. At the same time, he was very good in explaining what needs to happen post the fix. It was a very good experience.

I found American Home Shield because I had a customer who had them and they were providing her a good service. She told me about how much it was and I thought I needed to do it so I did. Recently, the ice maker would come and go. The guy fixed it then it ran three rounds and it stopped. The guy seemed knowledgeable. I don't think it was anything his fault. I think it's the refrigerator. Right now, it's pouring water into the thing and just dumping it out. He told me to call him back if it didn't work so I called. His wife is the one that answers the phone and does the scheduling. She told me I had to call American Home Shield back to get them to come out. She said, "We're going out of town all next week," which was this past week. She said, "We'll be back Monday. I'll put you on the schedule and just tell Home Shield I've already talked to you and put you on the schedule."

We had American Home Shield in Arizona and when I came back to Colorado and bought my townhouse, I signed up again, and that was two years ago. Recently, I called them and they sent Allstate Plumbing out. They did a good job. The water heater wasn't working and it needed a little box down at the bottom. I had a neighbor check it and he thought the pilot light was out but the technician said he couldn't see the pilot light. It was way back underneath. That whole box with the dials that tells you how hot it's heating the water was all replaced. I called Allstate Plumbing because the technician was very good. I was being a little bit of a pest. I kinda watched and asked what was going on and he explained everything and was extremely polite. First he had to come diagnose and decide that was what he needed then they had it the next day and he came right back.

We had an issue wherein the condensation was leaking. My husband bought Flex Seal and put it around where the water was leaking, which was a piece that came out from the drip pan. I informed American Home Shield and the first company they sent that when the drain started leaking, my husband needed to stop the water from dripping everywhere. We also had a broken drain that's connected where the condensation comes down on the drip pan. The technician from the first company called it a screw but it's not a screw. It was a plastic drain piece that's screwed in. The guy saw that that was broken. He said he was gonna replace that piece. However, he took it and replaced it and then he gooped up some Flex Seal instead of using plumber's tape or doing it professionally.

The technician did it just like my husband did. All messy. He then took a piece of pipe, cut it, and put it so that the drip pan would be lifted up on either side. He bent the metal under the drip pan down. There are two pipes. One is a drain where the condensation leaks, and then there's another one where when water touches this particular sensor, it turns the compressor off so that the house doesn't flood. By lifting the pan in the center, the technician caused the water to go down the sensor pipe. That cut off the compressor, so we didn't have air conditioning for the last two days since they came on Monday.

The company told us that the reason that it wasn't working was because the coil needed to be cleaned. Prior to having American Home Shield, we had all of our equipment covered under Sears and every two years, we had the coil cleaned. It was done in 2019 and we had it written down. I told the guy the coil didn't look very dirty to me and he said, "Oh, you have to clean the coil. There's all kinds of algae and everything up there." I said, "Well, why don't you move the coil back and see if there is algae and just take the algae away and then the water will flow where it's supposed to." He was very nice while he was here, but then he went outside, came back in and said I had to pay extra for that. He said that was all he could do and he left.

I called that company seven times on Monday to find out why they just left and what was gonna be the next course of action, but they never answered. I called the representatives from AHS and the representative called them and they said, "We don't wanna do the retail work of cleaning it." They just didn't wanna do any work. They made it worse too. Now, my husband is a lot upset. The way that that technician Mickey Moused the sealant on there looks like some 10-year-old did it. On the other hand, the last company that came out today was fantastic. The first thing they did was take pictures of everything. The guy asked, "Who put all this stuff around here." I told him that was how the other guy did it. He said that guy was not supposed to do that and that it was messy.

When I told this last guy that our compressor wasn't kicking on and we were getting no cool air for two days, he went and looked. He pulled out these wires that connected to a sensor and it was full of water. He dried all that out, and he put it back together. As soon as he did that, the compressor started coming back on, so we had cool air. This last guy also took the coil, moved it back, and saw that it was perfectly clean. There were a couple pieces of fuzz, but apart from that, there was nothing at all there. This last guy went ahead and re-lined the drip pan with special stuff as well. He made sure everything was secure and that there was not any more dripping.

After spraying all this stuff on there, the guy from the second company told us to not turn the AC back on 'til 8:30 tonight, so that the stuff he put could cure and create a rubber filament over the top of the drip pan. He then went out to the compressor to make sure that it was working properly. Our unit is a little older, but because we service it all the time and we take care of it, it's blowing 60 degree air. He said there was nothing wrong with the unit. He rebuilt the drip pan that we have and I asked him if we could get a new drip pan instead of having a Mickey Mouse setup that the other guy did. He said, "We can’t get this part. It's too old a machine." My husband said, "If I get the part, will you guys come back and just put the part on so it can look like it did when it was new?" We left it at that.

The guy left and we're waiting now 'til 8 o'clock to make sure there's no more leakage. We won't know until we put the AC back on tonight. We still have the buckets underneath to mitigate. Still, this second company was good. They were so thorough, kind and nice. The first company was not horrible, but they didn't wanna follow through and that's not necessarily in the best interest of AHS. My mom has AHS also. I have it for her house, in our house here and then we have a house in Maine.

All our appliances are new and I said to my husband, I said, "Next year, we should seriously think about setting up everything at the house in Maine." We had Sears for all these years and then Sears was having financial problems. We used them a couple of times for certain things, but the whole idea is we just want a company to rectify the wrong. Not everybody's perfect and not every company that will be sent is perfect. That's why I don't mind saying that I would definitely recommend AHS. I'm not gonna bash the company because stuff happens.

People can make mistakes and as a consumer and a customer, I realize that American Home Shield has their checks and balances because there's so much fraud and so much stuff that happen. It took four days to get it right, but they followed up and they're trying to make it right. They sent another reputable company that was really nice.

This is the third house we've had Home Shield for. One that we had is that our son was living in. When we moved into our house in Minnesota is where we first took out the warranty. When we came here, we did it again. Sometimes, when you call in on the phone to set something up, I've had difficulty getting through. And I know that sometimes, the suppliers have told me they have difficulty. They have stood on the phone for so long, on hold, before they can get through. But that's the only thing. The Rite Choice tech cleaned the furnace and everything seems fine. It's a very old furnace. But it's clean.

I called American Home Shield about my oven, stovetop, refrigerator and dishwasher. Everything had a problem with it and I did the claim all at once. The contractor got the ticket and they called to make an appointment. They even texted me when they were 30 minutes away letting me know and sent an email too. When they showed up the first time, they needed to order a part for the stovetop and the refrigerator. But they fixed the oven and the dishwasher. It was great, perfect and quick. They kept their distance according to COVID regulations, wore masks, cleaned up and left.

There was still a problem with the oven. It was still giving a code and the dishwasher stopped working. So I called the contractor and they made note of it. They were gonna return when they got the pieces ordered in and they did. They came in and fixed everything with all the parts. And even what I called in, they fixed. They said they had a 30-day guarantee on all their work and to give them a call if anything goes wrong. So, it was nice. I would use them again. The technicians were very respectful, and told me and showed me what they did before I signed off.

I like that American Home Shield covers plumbing, HVAC and appliances. The toilet kept running and there were some issues with the plumbing and the sink. The plumber was able to fix that fairly quickly. He got in and he got out. I wasn’t here when the HVAC guy came, but my husband said everything went okay. There were some run over around the HVAC system and it's dried up since then. I haven't seen it so I'm sure whatever was wrong with it, he fixed it. We did receive the report late. The plumber gave it to us the same day but the HVAC guy gave it to us over a week after, and that was one that I would improve if I could. They could send their report a lot sooner.

Filing a claim was a fairly easy process. But it's not comprehensive enough if I have other issues. For example, I had two plumbing issues that I wanted to have resolved, and there's no place to put in two plumbing issues. I had some outside faucets that were leaking and also the showerheads. But I was only able to put in the showerheads because if I have another issue that requires a plumber, I'd have to go back and pay another $75 when it shouldn't be that way. So with that stuff, that probably could never be resolved because it's too complex, too many different things can happen. That’s my only complaint about it. However, the contractors that were sent out were hardworking guys. With my recent claim, the guy from Ready Services was great and nice. He had to replace three showerheads that were leaking. We were so happy with him.

I haven't got all of it yet. Their reps tried to be friendly but nobody ever had proper answers. Nobody could tell me anything or anything that was wrong. When I sent my invoices in, nobody would tell me that they received my invoices and they kept on telling me that they couldn't find a way to tell me if my invoices were out there. Then every time I called, I was always on hold for an hour and a half. So it was horrible.

Everything besides my refrigerator has been fine. My dishwasher got fixed right away, but I didn't have to talk to anybody. Also, my dryer got fixed right away and I didn't have to talk to anybody. If I don't have to call and interact with them and if I can do everything on the webpage, American Home Shield is fine. But there are things on the webpage you cannot get answers for. The refrigerator killed it all. I'm glad it's kinda getting resolved. I was calling at least three times a week trying to figure out what was going on, when my money was coming or what I had to do to get it, and I never got a straight answer.

My hot water heater wasn't working. We brought in the electrician and he did an excellent job. A plumber was then referred to come in. He did an excellent job. He called his supervisor and his coworkers to try to work through the hot water issues. I've been waiting for several weeks because a replacement hot water heater was supposed to be ordered. But I have not heard back from American Home Shield and I haven't heard back about scheduling for when the technician is gonna bring in the new hot water heater. I would like hot showers instead of cold showers.

I'm not super happy at this point. But some of it doesn't have to do with American Home Shield. It has to do with the policy that the homeowners before me purchased. I'm getting to know this house and it's an older home. But I have ceiling fans that are new with lights and it's not covered in my policy. It's very aggravating that I have these new ceiling fans with light fixtures and they come on at 3:00 in the morning then turn right off. They're not giving me error and light but they can wake me up at 3:00 AM at random. The other one just comes on and off three times within one hour. I keep going back to the room. I don't blame that on American Home Shield. It's not their fault that the homeowners chose a cheaper policy that didn't cover things that I need.

Patrick, the A-US Air gentleman who came out to do the HVAC system, was very professional. I liked him and respected him. He did a good job. The first time they ordered a part, they put it on, and then it stopped working. They had to order a module and Carrier was the one that paid for it because it was under warranty with them. That got squared away and then Patrick put it on. He was very good. I wish that American Home Shield had people like that to do all the work.

The thing that I am most chapped about is my dryer. We had a dishwasher problem and a dryer problem. On September the 26th, we called them regarding the dishwasher and the dryer. 7-H Appliance came out, and it has been so bad. It is November 4 and I still don't have a dryer. I have asked them and asked them. It’s not the right parts being ordered, and they can't get a part, supposedly, for my dishwasher. It was gonna be for three to five weeks. If everybody handled their business like A-US Air did, it would be great, but 7-H has been absolutely horrible.

When 7-H came, our dryer was working, but it may take two to three hours to dry a particular load because sometimes it would just stop in the middle of a load. When they left the second time, we had no dryer. The dryer doesn't work at all now. Before, you can at least know that, “Well, I can wash clothes and dry them.” Now, we can't. We have to go to our family's homes and dry our clothes. I don't mind washing dishes and drying them. I can do that in a pinch. The big problem is my dryer. The first guy that came out only spent two or three minutes on my dryer, and he spent the rest of the time on the dishwasher. The second time, it was a different person that came out. He tried to plug it back in and then the dryer was not operational.

They were gonna come back this past Monday and put another part on there, the panel board. What ended up happening was they said that American Home Shield ordered a bracket for the electrical board, and not the electrical board. I don't know who ordered the wrong part, and I don’t care, I just want the end result to be a working dryer. Now, they're supposed to be ordering the electrical board and they told me that it wouldn't begin until somewhere around the 9th of November. I've asked, “Did you guys have a policy where y'all can bring in an old dryer and just put it in until they get it fixed?” It may take three hours for a load, but at least it was working.

All around, AHS has been very user-friendly and easy to manage and work with. My experience with them has been great.

As they found my information for my service location, the prompts took me to make the payment. So if it was an issue that they couldn't fix or weren't gonna be able to help me with, my $100 would've had to be reimbursed. But everything else was okay. I had sand over the stove, they repaired. I also had a power situation where some of the power in the house was going out and they repaired it. Then there was a dishwasher situation. It has been pretty simple to submit a claim. We thought the issue was the drain trap because it was pretty full of stuff. The tech ran a cycle but he didn't stay long enough to see that it kicked out again in the rinse cycle. It's probably something to do with the pump. So he's coming back out next Tuesday to fix it. Other than that, he did what he thought was right. American Home Shield is pretty good overall. In February, I noticed there's a leak in the AC. It would ice over and then just crazy leaking. The guy came out and said the pump was unbalanced. He did some work on it and put 2 pounds of Freon on it. He charged 300 and some odd dollars to get everything fixed. I thought that would be the end of that but it's been dry this entire time of October and there was a few drips. We wanted to get ahead of it because we know that if you have any drainage that's happening improperly, it's bad news.

I called Home Shield and they brought a company out. There was a miscommunication between them but the company did phenomenal. The guy that they sent out was Jay and he was pretty good. He went through and checked what the other company did. He found that at the outside unit, there's a cap they screwed down too tight and compromised a gasket thus leaving a little bit of a leak. Over the months from February to October, it leaked 2 pounds more Freon again so, I was pretty much in the same situation again.

Jay made sure that the valve was still good to go, got the cap re-secured, checked the pressurization of the entire system to make sure nothing else was leaking anywhere, and pumped in a synthetic blend of Freon that was way cheaper than the other guy's stuff. Instead of me getting tacked for $300, it ended up being like 100 bucks additional. I was very impressed. He was very professional, polite, and easy to work with. I'd be way happier to have him come out the next time there's an issue, if there's an issue.

They came to look at my refrigerator back in August 27, and they said it wasn't working. The guy that came in was professional, but whatever he tried to fix, it wasn't fixable. When they said it wasn't working, I thought that American Home Shield was gonna send out a voucher to get another refrigerator. They sent somebody out on October 1st to come check the refrigerator out again, and they also said it wasn't working. They ordered the part, and I'm still waiting on it. At this point, I'm dissatisfied. Getting someone to come out was easy and they got somebody to come out to try to fix the problem. However, our refrigerator is still out and I'm doing this through November. I just want a refrigerator before the holidays.

He did the diagnostic and since the repair, the refrigerator has been working pretty fine. This repair saves me money from food spoiling. Before, it may be my food was frozen or it may be hot. The service has been good, but where there's a related repair, it's harder to call out when submitting the request. I contacted American Home Shield about how should I go about having a furnace check up. They put me in touch with a local HVAC person, and he came over and said that my furnace was exhausting too much Carbon monoxide. Since my furnace was a 1983 model, he said they don't even make parts for that kind of furnace anymore. So, he said he had to condemn the furnace. American Home Shield covered the new furnace, but then I had some additional cost like some new connection piping. The older unit was considerably older and all of the vents were not conducive to the new furnace, so they had to rework some of the connections to the vents. They were very knowledgeable.

I was very satisfied with American Home Shield and with their local contractor. From the day he condemned my furnace until the installation of the new furnace, it was only about 10 days. He told me not to use my furnace, if I could get away with that. I really tried but this was at the end of October when the temperatures were really falling fast. I didn't want to get carbon monoxide poisoning either. They knew time was a concern, and they got right on it and came over. The two guys who removed the old furnace and installed the new furnace were very neat. I wandered and worried how dirty of a job it would be, but they were wonderful.

The first time I had to make a claim with American Home Shield was this year back in May. I woke up at nighttime, went into my kitchen and looked under my sink for something. I noticed everything was kinda damp and one of the pipes was loose. When I went to move things out away from the pipe, the whole pipe came off. We called American Home Shield and explained what happened. They put in a call and said they'd get someone to us right away. They gave us the impression that we were gonna have someone over to the home right then and there. The call was put in the next morning at 7:00 A.M 'cause this was the middle of the night. Lo and behold, it was a bunch of phone calls back and forth with five different people. Nothing was ever done.

I finally got someone to tell me it was the weekend and nothing could be done for me. Then we got someone to tell us they were gonna call back the company that they got an appointment with and see if they could come over. The guy said he'd call us back within half an hour. Five hours later, we were still waiting for a phone call. They never returned my phone call. It was the same thing with the plumber that they gave us - no phone calls, no anything for two days. By that point, we had called someone else. We called Brothers and they came out to the home the same day because I needed my sink. I couldn't use my kitchen. My whole kitchen was flooded because the water was all over the place. Right there, that was a big no-no on my book.

American Home Shield was given to us by the previous homeowners and from everything I heard, the way they make it seem, they're there right on the spot for emergency situations but that's not how it works. We had to wait three or four days. When the plumbers finally got through to us, we had to wait five days. That was ridiculous. Up to this day, I'm still waiting for them to return my $80 service fee.

With Home Shield, I don't have to keep calling other people as they already have contracts with servicemen who can come and do the job for me. And once they did, which was less than a week, he called and said he had the part and when it would be convenient for them to come out again. I let them know. I was not available when they said they could come out. So the following day, they came out and the tech fixed it. He did everything he was supposed to do. He did not leave a mess. He cleaned extra, the dryer had a lot of dust. He asked for the vacuum cleaner. We took it to him and he did a vacuuming inside and out. I was able to wash that same day and dry, and I've been doing so as needed. Home Shield is professional. They got it done.

I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. I've recommended them to a few of the homeowners in my neighborhood and they've gotten the service. The most recent job they did for me was for a leaking pipe on my second-floor ceiling coming from my master bathroom on the third floor. Their contractor repaired that. AHS then had to send out a second company to do the drywall repair for the ceiling afterward. Everything worked out. Another claim I had was for a tune-up of my heating unit. The contractor was good and they did social distancing. The heating unit has been the same since they came six months ago.

The gentleman that came out for our plumbing issue recently seemed to have been extremely polite. He was knowledgeable. He put the fixture in. This time, I was pleased with the service. The first time I had to use AHS for air conditioning and heating, I was very displeased. We were having some problems with the air conditioning. It was rattling and making a lot of noise. I called AHS. The air conditioning company called. The gentleman came and said, “There really isn't anything you can do about this. This is an air conditioner that's 10 years old.” I said, “How could that be? We don't live in Palm Springs. We live in an area where the air conditioner is used half the time.” He said, “You should just put a new air conditioner in here.” With that, he left.

I have a son-in-law that's in the air conditioning and heating business. I called him and he said, “You need a new fan blade.” We put a fan blade on it. He charged me a couple of hundred dollars for the fan blade. It was still making some noise, so he put something on it called a blanket. I called AHS and I said, “I'm not paying for that service call because the guy was a jerk.” If it would have needed a new air conditioner, if the air conditioner was broken, there was responsibility there. I wasn't sure I was gonna use AHS anymore for anything. But then, I've been paying for it, so let me call and see what happens this time. But they were very good.

It's hard to get Home Shield to follow-up. If I send an email out for a job request, I have to follow up with a phone call because, usually, their comment is they haven't gotten it or they don't see anything. Then, I have to go through the whole genre of submitting what my work request is and once I've submitted it, it seems like it's a difficult work request. They would say they don't have anyone in my area and that they would have to look and would call back in two to three hours. I would wait for two to three hours and quite naturally, I would forget.

I asked someone when I first signed up to document that I have two special needs kids. One of them has cerebral palsy. But it is like it doesn't have any type of acknowledgement at all because when they say they would call me back, they don't call back. Once, I got so irate, I told the rep to give me a supervisor. They would say the supervisor is very busy and to call back in two to three hours. It’s always that. They're super nice but they don't give you what you're asking for.

The last claim I had was with both toilets that weren't working and I said it was an emergency. At first, I submitted the claim over the computer and they said they never got it. Then I called and it went on and on. They asked that I call them if they don’t call back in two to three hours but I forgot. I called back later that day and they said they were still looking. This dragged out for a little over a week. Also, my credit card had an issue and I kept getting emails saying to contact them because my credit card was declined. I did and they looked it up and said there was no problem. But there was a problem and I corrected it with the bank. Home Shield says everything has been taken care of but I keep getting emails that it's not.

We had a home warranty and it started out good with them. We had them for a couple of years and it got worse and worse. They started taking away more and more. We switched to American Home Shield and they've been okay. We used them twice so far. When I have claims, I put it a ticket online. Their website was user-friendly and I didn't have a problem with it.

When we had an issue with our air conditioner, they sent out guys that did a good job. That was the biggest thing. The only thing is I thought the amount of coverage would be more. We still wound up paying $1,000 for the air conditioner. For our other claim, Queen Electric came out. It was for four lights and four bulbs. Two of the middle ones that were closest to the ballast wouldn't work. There was only one that worked and it was so low you could barely see anything. I was expecting a call from the contractor but I ended up calling them instead. Once I called, they set up a time and their guy came. He was on time and pretty much did the work. What he fixed, he fixed. But he told me he had to order the ballast for the ceiling light in the laundry room and I haven’t heard anything from them yet. Other than that, I'm satisfied.

American Home Shield has always been tough to deal with, but this event is the end of our relationship. We pay extra for pool equipment coverage. AHS has been out multiple times for the burner system in our pool heater in the past, this last time they were here three times and not corrected the problem. The last trip out, it was determined by the AHS contractor the repair/replacement is not covered due to the “chemical damage to the heat exchange system”. I have pool service records going back 12 years regarding the chemistry/water quality - all perfectly balanced.

Now, after multiple AHS contractors have worked on this heater over the years, and the same company on the last three trips in four weeks, now all of the sudden the unit mysteriously has “chemical corrosion damage” that is not considered “normal wear and tear”. Why was this problem not discovered in the multiple earlier service calls? As soon as this event is resolved, one way or the other Choice Warranty will be our new coverage provider.

On 9/20/2020 I called in a covered home warranty claim on my refrigerator. I paid my $100 deductible and I was assigned First Choice Appliance of Granbury TX to take repair of appliances. I had to call to schedule the appointment and asked for a text or voice mail when the technician was on way so that I could meet him here. It took 3 days and I never got a text or voice mail and finally I called and found out he had came and left and had to reschedule. Five days after turning in the claim I finally met the technician at my home.

He took a few pictures and left, telling me he would call in a couple days. No calls so I have since called him and AHS multiple times and I have yet to receive a single phone call. I have spent several hours on the phone with AHS trying to get another vendor and now they want another $100 deductible to start another claim. They said I would eventually get my original one back. Absolutely the worst customer service resolution I have experienced in my life. False advertising is an understatement. Expect 1-2 hours wait time with the call center in the Philippines or India. You will never get a return call.

American Home Shield also sent Wirenuts Pro to fix all of the electrical in our basement. My daughter stays there and only one outlet worked. The rest of the outlets in the basement didn’t work. We also have a laundry room there. One light worked, but the other light didn’t. Apparently, the issue was one of the outlets in the basement was shorting out, and it made the other outlets not work, plus the light. Wirenuts Pro replaced something on the outlet, and everything started working again.

Everything is outstanding. The only thing I got a problem with is when I call in to get a repair order, I can never get to talk to a human being. It's all recorded. I had been on the phone for an hour or two trying to get to a live person. The other day, I called in to get the furnace worked on. I didn't have a chance to tell someone that I got a company over here that American Home Shield deals with, Advanced Appliance. They replaced them with somebody else. I would like to have the person that I have my yearly inspection with and is on their call list to come service my furnace rather than somebody I don't know.

I had the same thing with a plumber. There's a young boy I know starting out and he's on their call list. Before I had it, they were done replacing him with somebody down a couple hundred miles away. If I pick somebody that American Home Shield isn't familiar with, I could understand them not wanting me to go with them. But it's somebody they do business with year-round.

Our refrigerator wasn't cooling off and it wasn't freezing. The contractor from Sears who came out was pretty nice. He said that AHS would probably just gonna do a cash-out because it would cost more to replace the parts and take longer than to replace the whole refrigerator. We had to pay for it, and then AHS said they would reimburse us. I put the receipt in over a week ago. One lady I spoke to said it would take about 7 to 10 days to get the reimbursement. Then the one lady said it would take 21 days. I haven't heard anything else.

The refrigerator runs great, but we’re gonna have to have the doors replaced on it. I told the delivery man he would have to remove the doors to get in the house and he didn't do that. He literally told me that the warranty wouldn't be any good if he removed the doors. Our house got these screws in the doorway ‘cause it’s an older one, and he caught the refrigerator on the bottom. When he got the refrigerator inside the door, somehow, he turned around and he scraped up the paint on my banister at the bottom. He scraped the door. When he got to the doorway in the hallway, he scraped the inside of the doorway.

Then, one of the delivery guys took my chair from my dining room set and dragged it across the floor to stand in. I put a complaint about it and I’m having to send pictures to AHS for them to fix the damages. We just bought the house and everything was repainted and redone. Overall, AHS did a great job and were on point. They got to the problem and fixed it.

I had a claim for an HVAC unit in my home. American Home Shield assigned a particular contractor. I kinda felt like those contractors were just in it for the money. They told me that the unit could be fixed. When they tell the customer that, American Home Shield won't pay to replace it, they'll only pay to fix it. When the contractor actually came in to do the work, they took my old furnace out and brought me in a brand-new one. They said that's the way the work order was, but it wasn't. The work order said they were repairing it and that it required upgrades.

When they put that on there, what happens is the contract then kicks in and says they won't pay for upgrades. So it's a scam. They put in their upgrades so that I will have to pay the majority of the cost and then American Home Shield doesn't have to pay much of the cost. When I asked American Home Shield how much did they have to pay, they wouldn't tell me. They claim that their bid is different from what I see. I believe I paid the entire cost.

During the process, the contractor was very difficult to reach. I called their phone number, I got somebody just answering the phone, which I was assuming in light of COVID, they were answering in their home. But instead of it like being going to an office somewhere, they would then transfer the call to the head guy in their office, but he was out on jobs. They would transfer it to his cell phone, then I could hear him driving down the road or at somebody's house or doing work, and he was trying to talk to me about a repair I'm having done at my house while he was out doing something someplace else. I understand, in light of COVID, maybe that's how they're operating their business, but then they would say they'd call me back, and then they wouldn't.

The new furnace is in. But they told me that it still needed some other repair. I guess some electrical thing was hooked up inappropriately or wrong or something wasn't connected right. The furnace runs and it heats the house, but what is this electrical issue? I called them three times and I told them that I would be going back to work full-time. I wanted to get this done before I went to work. They were sending back the original guys that installed it but then they never came back. This past weekend, my utility room has nothing in it but my furnace. I'm having the floors painted in there and having a new door put on the furnace room.

My contractor was there, he mentioned a new furnace, then he asked why the door for the filter was open. I looked in there and there was no filter. If I wouldn't have been down there doing that, I would've never noticed it, and a brand-new furnace would've just run with no filter in it at all. I didn't even know the filter size. I had to go online and put the model number in to find the size so that I could go to Home Depot, buy a filter, and stick it in.

Also, the contractor didn't replace the outside unit on the HVAC, they only replaced the inside unit, which was always my concern as to why they didn't replace both of them. They said that the outside unit could still be fixed when it was never broken. The reality ended up being I got a new furnace on the inside at a cost of $2,000 to me. If the outside unit happens to break, my concern is, are they gonna say that it cannot be fixed or it can be fixed? If they say it can be fixed and they put in there that they have to modify it, I'm gonna have to pay the whole cost and that's $3,500. So, I'm ending to have paid almost six grand for a new furnace and outside unit, when in fact, if reading the contract, AHS is supposed to kick in $1,500 towards the replacement. Well, the furnace was already replaced. It had been going on since May and it was just done. I didn't have air conditioning all summer.

AHS wants to put work orders online, which I don't have a problem with, but when I have an issue with the work order, that's when I have to call in. Then when they look up the work order, they say it's still in process and they can't answer it. So there's this downtime. It's this whole trail of having to call somebody and sitting on the phone for 45 minutes. When I get somebody, it's someone who is overseas and they're only just pressing stuff on the computer so they don't know how to answer anything I tell them. I'm not getting somebody who's understanding the processes of the HVAC unit. Then they say they escalate it and someone's gonna call back, but then nobody does.

When the technicians come out and they use their instruments and equipment to take measurements of things, they should capture those results and show those visually through text. There's a lot of technology that they should share what they're troubleshooting and what they discover to the extent that data can help the consumer visualize and understand what the issues are.

I originally continued Home Shield, and then we canceled it. We had some air conditioning problems. We're out a significant amount of money because we realized we didn't have the warranty anymore. That's why we decided to pick it back up. We were like, “Well, it's worth it to have it because now we're out all this money. Here's why we need to keep it.” I love the fact that they just tell me who it is that they are assigning the claim and then I can contact them directly. When I have had a lag in response, it's not on their end. It's usually just whoever they farmed out to. So, we just have to follow up with them, which is not a problem. Recently, Edmond Texture and Drywall did a good job. They were there early and they cleaned up their mess. I was very happy with them.

Home Shield's service has been very beneficial for us. So, we appreciate it. However, I would love to have a tiered service, if somebody wanted to pay more for more potential money that they would be out. Because for example, we've had air conditioning work done that we have a limit. For AC, a $1,500 max is not a lot. A tiered service, I didn't realize there were maximums until I read the contract a little more thoroughly.

I am grateful to have the service. The guy was very good and we knew pretty much when he was coming out. He was very efficient, fast and friendly. It was something we thought that was already done but whoever did it before didn't do it well. The technician explained that it could have been something else 'cause the prior owners had the same loud noise and the AC wouldn't work. We found that it worked briefly then it started doing the same thing again. The technician said it was a capacitor. He got his job done and he was gone. I was perfectly fine with that and I appreciate how well it went.

I needed a main drain cleaned out. I paid my $100 deductible to American Home Shield and a tech came and cleaned out my main lines to the septic tank. I was backed up in my house. It was not from the septic tank but from a drain underneath the house. The tech was great. After the service, the septic system seems okay. I still have some slow spots but they're more local.

American Home Shield is good to have unless you have a budgeted emergency fund, which is better than paying for a warranty. With my recent claim, this one went well. Some of the others didn't. Our house was built according to code and every time a tech came out, we were told we weren't according to code. We had to make code modifications before they would do anything. A lot of times the code modification cost more than the repair.

Jeff was a great technician. He was professional and knowledgeable. The only issue that I had with the process was the fact that I could not get ahold of Jeff directly. Having a customer not being able to get ahold of the technician directly is not a good way to conduct business. I understand that with COVID, there's a lot of shortfalls in manpower. But to have to call American Home Shield in order to reach out because I didn't hear anything back from the technician and I didn't know that the parts got ordered. I received information back from American Home Shield but I didn't know when they arrived or when the repair was gonna happen. At that time, it'd been almost two weeks and I needed my dryer.

When I was able to reach the technician, his voice message that was set up was, "I'm not answering any calls. The best way to get in touch to find out status updates with your repair or your service claim is to contact your home warranty service company." That kinda rubbed me a little bit the wrong way in not having access to my technician directly. Where even if they should monitor their voice messages. I know some people can go overboard with leaving a three-minute voice message or they're upset and they're shooting the technician with their words. I get that, because they're unhappy and they're complaining. But as far as Jeff being a quality technician, that's not in question at all. It's just the process of being able to get ahold of him to get some quick feedback, even via email would have been great.

Human nature dictates that not knowing of a scenario is always the worst case scenario. Because then you're being left hanging. Communication is paramount. But overall, my experience was still great with American Home Shield. I have no problems with the deductible and they are replacing my washer at no upcharge. I did some product reviews on the products they recommended. Some of them were bad and some of them were great. The one I chose had really good reviews overall.

The AHS service has been amazing. The things that we've had done, just wonderful. Quick, reliable, professional companies. It's just been really good. They checked out our pool heater. My microwave handle broke so I was told that it couldn't be replaced. Well, magically, they found it. My dryer was repaired. AHS really goes beyond for their people and that's really nice. Now, I may be having to call them again. We heard a noise underneath the house last night. We had a new water system put in so, we're not sure if it's that leaking or something underneath the house. My husband shut down everything.

He did a good job. So far, submitting claims with AHS has been simple. However, American Home Shield used outsourcing for phone calls. So there was a little communication issue when I talked to a rep. But the rep looked through it and the problem got resolved.

Tate Appliances, one of American Home Shield's contractors, came and didn't fix my dryer right. Within three weeks, I was having the same issue and calling back. Another time, Whirlpool patched up the waterline of my refrigerator and I had to call the tech from there back a week later because I had water all over my floor. He then went and got the right part for my waterline. Whirlpool did a great job for me but I don't recommend Tate Appliances.

The process is really slow with AHS. There are long wait times and it's frustrating to be on hold for so long. I can hardly understand their people as their accent is tough. Overall though, American Home Shield has done a great job for me. They told me to go and purchase a dryer and send them back the information to get my refund from them. I just told my mom about Home Shield and she got their coverage as well.

I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. One of the key benefits is that if you have a problem, you just go to the website and it takes you 30 seconds. From there, they take it on and get you the proper technicians to come out and correct the issue. If you don't know who to go to, they take care of that for you. I like it. I tell people it’s the happiest payment I make each year.

Recently, the guy replaced one of the air conditioners. They did it as expected so I was satisfied. However, for my air conditioners, I had to pay for most of that because they just try to fix them. My air conditioners are almost 20 years old and you get $2,000 coverage for every year. They’ll just continue to fix it and fix it. They will not agree with the recommendation to replace it. They could lax that a little bit. I had another issue last week. The sink in the kitchen went out so I called them. The guy came out and said I needed a new one. He called American Home Shield and had to kind of twist their wrists a little bit that we needed to replace it. My wife had a new faucet last night. She said she loved me so much ‘cause she had hot water. That’s a big thing in the 21st century.

I've had three claims within the last month and a half. First, the bottom freezer on my refrigerator wasn't freezing. The first repairman came out and told me that he could not repair the compressor. He also could not order the part because the part had to be ordered from LG. LG then came out and also told me that the compressor for the bottom freezer was out and that the top refrigerator that worked on the same compressor would be going out as well. He told me that he would order a part and it would be five to be seven days. After another week or so, Sears called and said they would be coming out to repair it.

The gentleman came, looked at it and said it was the compressor as well. He told me that the parts were ordered and they would come directly to me. Again, we were looking at the possibility of five to seven business days. A week later, someone else called from Sears to see if the parts were here. They were and he came out and looked at it. He said it could not be repaired and it would have to be replaced. American Home Shield contacted me in reference to that, and the refrigerator will be replaced. I just needed to find one. I also had a problem with my dishwasher. It could not be repaired because the parts are no longer available. That, too, will be replaced when I find one.

The last claim I had was for a sink stoppage. I called and told American Home Shield what the problem was and then they got in touch with a plumbing service. They scheduled an appointment to come out to take care of the problem. The plumber identified himself with uniform and then I directed him to the sink where I was having a problem. He asked for the outside plug and once he found that, he did what he needed to do.

There were some experiences in the past where I called in a service order and the repairmen that were sent out are not as experienced as some of the older ones. However, this is an older home and I've had several issues. I bought appliances over 25 years ago. Needless to say, the parts are no longer available for a lot of the appliances once they break down. American Home Shield has replaced several items for me, so overall, I am satisfied.

My dryer wasn't working and the contractor replaced the touchpad on it, and it's working great. Then they had to replace the coils on my stove and also the thermostat on it. Everything's working great. The tech told me that my stove had the wrong size coils on it before so that was the reason my pans were laying downward on one side of each one. The dryer and the stove was on one ticket. I called Home Shield to try to get an appointment. Liberty was supposed to call me but after two weeks, I never got a call. So I had to call back Home Shield and they called and got me the appointment. After that, they came out and then it took three weeks to get the parts because of the corona. But they were very nice. They came in and they fixed them. Didn’t take them no time. They were very polite.

My granddaughter had a ring that she ordered off of Wish. I was getting everything out of the washing machine and hanging them outside, then I found her ring in the washing machine and I laid it on top of the washing machine. When Liberty came here, one of guys came right back out and handed me the ring. So they were very trustworthy. Overall, everything was great. But Home Shield could make the appointment sooner, instead of two or three weeks out. Calling and getting the issues fixed took over a month.

My recent garbage disposal claim went smoothly. I called it in on Thursday and in about an hour or two, I had an appointment for Monday. So it wasn't a very fast appointment, but nevertheless, it was a weekend coming up, so I understood that. Then the technician called me, came, and was able to repair it on the spot. It was very fast. Between arriving, diagnosing it and replacing the whole unit, the technician took less than an hour. It was not very hard to install. I was afraid that the technician would have to come back with the unit but he happened to have one. It wasn't as good as the one I had but it was comparable and he was able to replace it.

I had an earlier claim, which wasn't as smooth. It was for a washing machine. The technician came out, was in my home less than five minutes, and said that my washing machine was shot. It was my first experience ever with a home warranty, so I didn't know what to expect. I just assumed someone would call me and maybe replace the washing machine. But a few days later, I got an email from American Home Shield saying that the washing machine would not be fixed or repaired because the technician said it was due to improper usage. That was upsetting. There was no improper usage. The technician didn’t ask me any questions. He just determined this on his own.

American Home Shield was nice enough to send someone else in. Another technician came from Sears quickly said that unfortunately, this would happen and they replaced the parts they needed to fix the unit. But that was a long process. We waited for the original technician for a few days. Then when they had to reschedule with Sears, I had to wait a week for them to come. After they came, they had to order parts and it took a while for the parts to come. I couldn't schedule repair until the parts came. So it took almost a month to get my washing machine fixed. Other than that, everything has worked out and my overall experience is positive.

I love my washer. The people that delivered it did an excellent job. They set it up and showed me how to use it. The only thing that is missing is whether it's a small, medium or large load. But the customer service rep that helped me order it was excellent. That was the first time since I've been with American Home Shield that I've had such a person that has good personality. I was about to cancel my policy last month because I felt it was a waste and I wasn't getting good customer service. Her customer service is why I'm still with them.

I wish American Home Shield had some way of a survey on the people that come. My pool had an issue and the guy told American Home Shield that he had jumped in the pool but could not fix the issue. The guy walked in my yard. He went up to my filter and walked away from it. He didn't even touch it. Next thing I know, he was putting an order for a new pool pump that I probably didn't even need. When he put it in, he put it in the wrong size for the pool. It was a whole long issue of things. I picked up the phone 'cause I had already paid my $75 service fee. I told them to not allow that gentleman to come back out to my house.

The last issue I had was probably a year or two ago. When I called, they said my new policy didn't take care of my security system anymore. I've been with them for over 10 years. I didn't know when did they make a change to my policy. I should have been grandfathered in. That was unfair to me considering that I was then paying even more than what was required of me. My contract said $75 but then I was up to $100. They were upping my prices but they were taking away part of the package deal that I was routinely getting. That was not right. They could’ve at least said something about two months prior to me.

I have American Home Shield for my house. I had it for my mom's house but I just got rid of it. She is a clean freak and she would use baby wipes to wipe down everything. Apparently, she was flushing them and they got in the lines. The next thing I know, I ended up having to pay $5500 for somebody to come dig up a pipe because American Home Shield only covers so much of the pipe. It didn't cover the remaining of the pipe. What's the purpose of me having it if they're not there for the people? American Home Shield is not bad but I wish that they covered more things.

All my children now have American Home Shield but my daughter canceled last week. She was tired of arguing with them. She has small kids and she went without a stove for 48 days. American Home Shield was waiting for a part to come in. It was crazy. They had to eat out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or come over here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was kind of disappointed because I couldn't recall American Home Shield ever being this way.

I've also had some issues the customer service representative. If I call in, I know they have to ask the normal questions predominantly. But I'm the customer. I'm gonna pay whatever fee they tell me to pay. When their guy comes here, I'm gonna allow them to do whatever they need to do. But the customer service puts you through a rigmarole of things. As for the person that they choose to come out to you, you hope that they go back and do what they're supposed to do. 30 days pass by and you call them and say you have not gotten any inquiries in reference to your work order. They say the person has not turned it in. That's an internal problem.

If they send somebody on a specific date and have not heard back from them within 5 days, or 10 days at max, then someone internally should be calling them. It's about customer satisfaction. Their customer is waiting an additional 10 days for the representative that they have chosen. It should be something legally bound in their contract when they sign up with American Home Shield that they have at least 10 days maximum to turn in all documentation so that the problem can be fixed.

They have a customer service rep that's not being empathetic when a person calling is saying it's 90 degrees outside and their air conditioning unit is out. For the air conditioning unit, I ended up spending $3800 'cause their tech got here and said that I needed a new air conditioning unit. I'm paying a whole lot more than I should have to for the service that I pay monthly for already. I also have to pay a service technician when they come out here. When they do, they do a piece of the job and make it bigger than what it is so that they can make more money.

They don't charge you until after the issue has been fixed, and the technician is submitted to their company. I had one call that I put in for my washing machine. Then I had to turn around and cancel it, and it was flawless. I pushed the lid to the washing machine too far back. I didn't realize that I pushed the button in and I thought it had broken, and it didn't. AHS has really been great. So, I've been happy with them.

The service of American Home Shield has always been incredible. We've always had everything covered that we expected to be covered. The communication when I have to call in has been less than desirable though. The last time that I called, I had to sit on hold for almost three hours before I got a representative because I was trying to schedule three appliance service requests at the same time. That all were able to be serviced by the same person. I didn't wanna do it online, because I would have been charged three times. But outside of that, the actual service that we have has been great.

AHS was paid for by the sellers of the home whenever we purchased it. We maintained it after the first year simply because of the age of the HVAC system. It's original to the house, which is 17 this year. So, it very much so has seen better days, but it's still chugging right now. We've kept it in place for that because we've had to replace the HVAC before and it was not cheap nor fun. But we've ended up utilizing AHS for more than that, so a lot more than what has been expected with appliances. We've been very grateful to have the service.

If I have to call in, it's because I specifically want to request a specific vendor that is in the approved American Home Shield family. It's unfortunate when we have the same person that comes out to service our unit multiple times, and we're very happy with that person, then the next time, we get somebody brand-new. Then, also, if I need to put in multiple requests for service orders in the home, like the last time.

The individual that came out recently for our plumbing issue was incredible. We currently have two outstanding orders on our home. He was the one that has been absolutely no trouble at all. I had requested that he just communicate with me remotely. He, fortunately, did not have to come into our home because our water heater is in our garage. He communicated with me through our ring doorbell. He wore a mask the whole time. It was great.

I would always get a SquareTrade warranty on computers and things that we buy. I have a very expensive induction stove and the motherboard went out on it twice. SquareTrade took care of it. But they don't insure things that are beyond a certain age. When it came time to that SquareTrade was expiring, I decided to look into other options. I came up with American Home Shield as being the best one. I read reviews and I've never had an issue with them. I got it primarily to protect that stove, which thank God, hasn't gone out again.

We had an issue with a dryer not long after we got the warranty and AHS took care of that nicely. Recently, I had a problem with the washer and Aurora Appliance Repair came out to fix it. The only thing was that it took longer to get the parts than I would have hoped for. We were without a washer for two weeks. I wish the parts would have been available locally so that it could have gotten fixed faster. But overall, it was fine. We also had a situation with the air conditioner. A guy came and figured out what was wrong. It was inexpensive for AHS and us, and I learned a couple things.

The home warranty helps us budget for expensive repairs that come up all of a sudden. It gives us peace of mind. I'm happy at what it could do to fix things and make the process easier. It's pretty efficient. We pay 45 or 50 bucks a month and we don't even feel it. When something comes up, we know we're covered. Everybody should have something like this. People get warranties with new stuff, but as these get older, then they have to think about what's gonna happen when it breaks.

I hope and pray that nothing breaks because it's a hassle no matter what. And that's the other thing, having to shop for somebody to come and fix it, make phone calls and hope to get someone who knows what they're doing on their own. Knowing that AHS screens people, the contractors are reliable and know what they're doing. AHS makes it pretty easy to file a claim. Somebody got ahold of me right away. Then the company was out here when they said they would. So far, we're satisfied with it and we're gonna keep it.

Finally, something was different and I was able to enter in the contract number from a previous year and it came back and said, "Okay, that's not the right contract number. Your new contract number is actually this."

I loved Berry Electrical. They were very helpful and professional. They came out exactly at the time that they were supposed to come out. Home Shield is worth having. It's expensive, but I saved a year's payment on getting the air conditioner. I had to get a new air conditioner because the one I had was over 40 years old and it would have to be fixed again and again and again. I opted to get a brand-new one.

I had to call On Time to set the appointment with them after filing the claim through the American Home Shield. Then once I got that done, I got notifications about it. On Time was great. They weren't able to cover everything through American Home Shield, but they were very quick with what they could cover and gave me quotes and everything on the rest. Everything has been functional. They got my second bathroom operational again. So, that was pretty exciting.

The whole faucet was leaking so Integrity Plumbing Services came out. They were pretty good and very professional. They are the best ones I have seen until now. They had to replace the whole faucet and they helped me order it. They sent the money for me. It would take a week for the faucet to come to us. Once it gets delivered to my home, I would call Integrity and they would give me an appointment after two days. The new faucet has a lifetime guarantee and we would only pay for replacement charges.

American Home Shield has been able to fix all the issues I had this year. That's pretty good and I like that. The only thing is when I try to reach out to them, there's a long waiting time because of the corona. It was not the case early before the corona. That is something we need to check on. Otherwise, I will definitely recommend American Home Shield.

With everything being online, American Home Shield's claim process is easy. But to reach them on the phone is difficult sometimes and there's a very long wait. One day, I had to wait almost 50 minutes to talk to somebody. I know this is a pandemic situation and we are all dealing with it. But previously, the call service was really excellent and it didn't take much time to get to them. Also, I wish their customer service was local a bit and more US-based.

Other than that, AHS has taken care of me. When a spring or something was broken on the top of our door mechanism, Flash Garage Door Service was assigned to the claim and they were perfect. They came on time, responded well to phone calls, and did everything they're supposed to. They knew exactly what was wrong. After the tech was done, I needed some other stuff like another remote. It was a little money that they charged and I paid them. It was great. I'm very happy with them.

My partner took Home Shield them up in 2016. Then after Calvin passed, I kept up with them. They were pretty good until this past year. MS Services came out three times. First time, they reconnected the power cord to the condenser. It had rotted away. It's an old unit. And then the second time, they came out and replaced the solenoid. The third time, they came out and decided that the unit needed to be replaced. Now, in between the second and third trip, I had an electrician come out and look at my circuit breaker because I just wanted to make sure that it was okay, because it was overheating when I was having problems with the air conditioner. MS said they would talk to Home Shield, then Home Shield sent me an estimate of 6,000 plus to replace the air conditioner.

A lot of that was getting permits and paying for the permits. I didn't understand that because they were replacing the whole unit, not piecemealing my old unit together. Armstrong doesn't exist anymore. That was one of the reasons that MS said, “We’d have to replace this. This company has been out of business for X amount of years, and parts aren't available. This isn't available, that's not available.” They kicked me upstairs. I was very nice to everybody at Home Shield because I realized it's not the individual’s problem. It's the company's policies. And then the last woman I spoke to said I can go outside and procure my own HVAC company and they will give me $1,265.70 towards the bill, but they have to okay the bid also.

I had one company come out last week, and I'm still waiting for their bid. The name of that company is Bear Electric and they had been with Home Shield. I used their company two years ago in the winter, because the heater went out. They were really good. They're a local company. MS is over 90 miles away. That's frustrating in itself because for them to come out, they were always at least about 10-day window. Whenever I call Home Shield, MS would reply and say, “Well, our next appointment is in 10 days.” And I would be like, “This is the middle of the heatwave. I need air now.” I've been out of air conditioning for over six weeks. My neighbor's son owns a local company, Action. I was talking with her, and she just told him about it.

He came out and troubleshot the situation. He thought he fixed it. We thought it's fixed. But it's too cold for me to put the air on to find out. I’m waiting for a hot day to see how well it works, and maybe I can do that today because it's supposed to be warmer today. For a $120 service call, this guy seemingly fixed the issue. The air conditioner was too close to the building and there was a controller that PG&E put on between the condenser and the forced air unit, which I was totally unaware of. He informed me that PG&E does this for all senior parks lately. They put this little block on and it actually doesn't let the condenser go on. He took that off, we moved the air conditioner away from the building. And now, MS never mentioned this, that the air conditioner was too close to the building, but it was smack up there against it. So, it would overheat on a really hot day, because there would be no airflow.

I haven't complained to Home Shield because I wanna make sure the unit is working. I wanna get these other bids in. But both Bear and Action said they refuse to work with Home Shield because they take advantage of customers, and they stopped their contracts with them. It just has me very suspicious about American Home Shield at this point, and how their values have changed in the past couple of years. This guy saved $4,000. I'm not pleased.

I understand it's not that individual's personal concern, even though they are representing the company, but they are representing the rules of the company. And the last two people I spoke with were very matter of fact, very cold and curt, “And this is our policy.” I said, “You know, I read the fine print on the contract.” And the reasons that they gave me for the excuse are ridiculous. I don't understand why there were all these codes and permits and whatnot when I'm updating the entire system. It just doesn't make any sense.

They had to replace the coil and the condenser. And if you're replacing the whole condenser unit, then you're getting all new parts, and they are up to code. That is what didn't make sense to me, and did not make any sense when I spoke to Bear and Action. I spoke to a third company and they were supposed to come out on Saturday, but I canceled them because of the guy that showed up on Friday and fixed the situation. But he said, according to his electronic gadgets that he had, the system works now.

Over the past year, I have become very dissatisfied with Home Shield. They were good a couple years ago. Now I understand why no local company will work with them. I live in Santa Rosa, which is 70 miles north of San Francisco. And they were getting companies that were up to 30 miles south of San Francisco to come up here. I thought that's weird. I’m glad I questioned the local companies, especially the one that had a contract with them prior to. But it was interesting that both the owners of both companies that I spoke with had disparaging remarks about American Home Shield, and rightfully so.

We've initially filed a claim to American Home Shield the same day that the incident occurred with our refrigerator. There was a lot of fluid on the floor, and the refrigerator and freezer were not staying cooled at all. After seeing that, I would assume it was the cooling fluid for the refrigerators. We took pictures and we called American Home Shield within 15 minutes to report that we have an issue, and the refrigerator was losing temperature. By the end of the day, the refrigerator was up to 78 degrees. Ultimately, it got up to 82 so we lost all the food in there. We called the office again the next day after we heard from LA Appliance. They had indicated that they wouldn't be here for two weeks.

We told AHS that LA Appliance wouldn't be here for another two weeks. The agent was kinda kind enough to ask, “Well, is there a medical issues and things involved?” I said, “Well, yes. I do keep my wife’s medicine in the refrigerator ‘cause it requires refrigeration.” They bumped it up to a medical emergency, which was supposed to be four hours. This was on a Monday and the guy didn't show up until Wednesday. That was Rick Appliance. Rick Appliance came in and immediately saw what the problem was. The tech said, “Yes, it is the compressor. And there's gonna be at least two weeks to get parts and things.”

We called AHS again and informed their agent in terms of what the man said. All of a sudden, his report was considered null and void because he wasn't able to repair the compressor. I said, “Okay, well, even if he did put a new compressor in there and build it all gold and whatnot, it still was not going to get rid of the contamination that already occur. Bacteria, mold, odor.” It was horrific. I said, “Look, it's 82 degrees inside the refrigerator. How is that compressor going to decontaminate the refrigerator? There’s no way it’s gonna do that.”

After they had null and void his evaluation that Wednesday, they indicated to us that they would have somebody else here the following Friday or Saturday. That person was Canella, but we didn't get that information until Friday. I said, “Okay, well, fine. So he'll be here tomorrow.” They said, “Yes, he's gonna be there tomorrow, Saturday, between 9:00 and 11 o'clock a.m.” I immediately called Canella just to get a confirmation because I didn't see anything in the email nor my phone. His recording said that he was out on a medical emergency until next week. I hung up and I called it again and it was the same thing on this recording.

I called back to AHS and told the agent there. They said, “Well, we have to give them 48 hours.” I said, “Well, okay. So how did you guys give me an appointment schedule for between 9:00 in the morning tomorrow and 11:00, when his recording said he’s out on medical emergency till next week?” Ultimately, we went the whole weekend and it wasn't until Monday after the Saturday that the guy was supposed to have been here. I called the guy's number that Monday morning before calling AHS. His recording was still on out on a medical emergency until next week. He was like that Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and here it is Monday morning and it was still the same recording.

I called AHS and informed them in terms of what we had discovered, as well as what did not occur. They hooked us up to another technician, Elite. They came by Thursday. It was still more than 48 hours later. As soon as he walked in, I said, “Well, here's the situation.” I showed him the pictures that we'd had on the phone. The refrigerator’s taped off. I said, “Well, let me show you what's on the inside." He damned near passed out after I took the tape off and opened the door so he could see the bacteria, the odor and mildew. He said, “Oh, yeah. It’s ugly in there. Okay.” He immediately said that it was gonna take about two weeks or so to get the parts for the compressor. I explained to him, “Even if you've got the parts or a new compressor today, it’s still not going to decontaminate the refrigerator. It’s gone. That odor and bacteria is all embedded in there.”

I told him, “This is kinda like a health, safety and welfare of the public. And I kind of feel like we've been treated as if we joined your organization yesterday or two minutes ago, when in essence, we've been with your company for over three decades.” We were like being thrown under the bus. We went out and got our refrigerator after many phone calls back and forth with AHS about trying to make sure that we were going to be still covered.

I was trying to make sure that if we purchased a refrigerator prior to cashing us out, it does not null and void anything, and so our understanding was it doesn't as long as we've got receipt showing that we purchased it. That was good. During the whole process, they kept saying, “Well, yeah, the part’s being ordered. And their ETA, this, that, and the other.” I said, “Okay. That still doesn't answer the question. How's that going to decontaminate the refrigerator?” We're not gonna go out and buy food and put in there, knowing that within less than 12 hours, it's gonna be saturated with the odor, let alone the mildew and bacteria even though whoever claimed that they could clean it.

There's just no way that we were going to take the risk and buy meat product, produce, and so far, knowing that in a couple hours, it's gonna be inundated with this odor and bacteria, as well as mold. I'm under the impression that there was a cash-out deal. But as of this moment, nothing has come into the mail, which was supposed to have been here as early as Monday. They’re saying $364 but with the inadvertent inconveniences, that should be twice that amount because it doesn't take that much to realize that we have a very toxic situation when you deal with people's refrigerator.

Still, there appears to have been a resolution, even though it took an extended time to get there. I would still recommend American Home Shield. People just have to work within the system checkpoints. On the refrigerator part, there has to be some trigger point where specifically if the compressor has been identified as not functioning, which means the refrigerator is not cooling itself, there has to be some urgency. They should go to some type of accelerated or urgent response cycle so you can get technicians out quicker.

He snaked it and did some other thing to it, and then waited around to make sure that everything worked, and then he went on his way.

Luckily, we haven't had to really use American Home Shield a lot throughout the years but both homes that we own are covered by them. We've had American Home Shield on this house since 2007. Then, we bought the other house in 2017. It's a little peace of mind that it's not gonna be crazy expensive to get things. Sometimes, you have to go through a process with them. One thing that we ended up finally having to get was a new oven because they just could not repair it. That was kind of a bit of a process because they'd send somebody out with a part, and then another part. At about the third time, it was like, “Okay, we'll get a new oven.” Nonetheless, it was still worth it in the end. They do a good job. I had to call American Home Shield and tell them what the problem was when the freezer on my refrigerator was iced up. They then scheduled someone to come out to fix it and they were outstanding. As a matter of fact, I would use them if I had to pay for them without the insurance.

The guy was great. He came and explained everything that he was doing. He showed me how to troubleshoot. He had to go in there and unclog it. If I would have known that before, I wouldn’t have to pay the $100. What he told me to do the next time is to try these steps first which I really appreciated. If that doesn’t work, then call. I’d give him an A-plus all the way around. I have used American Home Shield twice and every incident has been outstanding. They're very easy to deal with. The contractors came out real fast, like the next day. The only thing is they didn’t give me a discount on the other house.

The water heater started leaking badly. We called Home Shield and 5 Star Home Services came out two days after it actually happened. They installed a new water heater and they're working on mitigating the damage at the wall. They were great. We've been happy so far.

The electronic board of my dishwasher had an issue. Submitting a claim online to American Home Shield was easy and it was a great experience. The professionalism of the contractor they sent was fine. Things have been perfect since they came and my dishes have been clean.

The contactor took care of the issue in our kitchen right away. This was the first time that I had to use AHS and it was slam dunk. Everything was good.

We just had the AC unit replaced then there was a leak in the valve. The contractor came out and inspected it. They sent the stuff over to American Home Shield who denied the claim. They said it wasn't for normal wear and tear. And then the Freon leaked out again, so I did another claim. The contractor came out and said that the Freon wasn't gonna be covered. I've gotten five letters of everything that AHS doesn't cover, so I just paid out-of-pocket. There's not one thing I've turned into them that they have covered and I just paid out-of-pocket to have a whole new unit replaced.

There was another leak up in the attic. They came up and said that wasn’t gonna be covered. Then last year with the heat, we were without it for five days and nobody ever showed up. AHS said there was nothing they could do ‘cause it was on a Friday night and most places were closed. So, they couldn't get anybody out there until Tuesday or Wednesday. So, I just said never mind. I paid out-of-pocket again.

The claim process is horrible and I do it online. If I have to call, it's just a big runaround. One day, we were without air. It was like 105. I asked them if they could escalate my claim and they said that they don't have a way to get ahold of their escalation department and that the contractor has 48 hours to contact us. So, until I could get somebody out there, I had to buy a window unit, a more out-of-pocket expense. I bought American Home Shield last year and paid it all upfront, and I have gotten nothing out of it. I'm very dissatisfied. I'm not gonna renew and I would not recommend it to anybody.

It was easy to get a service scheduled with Peak Home Performance. They canceled the appointment that was scheduled and delayed it. We had the first snowstorm, so there are probably more people turning on their heater and having problems. So, I can't really blame them for that because mine was just a cleaning. When they came, they seemed fine.

As far as submitting claims to American Home Shield, I call and talk to somebody. They prefer to have people do it online, but I like to find out who the contractor is right then and there. It usually takes a half an hour. I plug in the phone and just let it sit. Every time I've had a service, it's been a delay of five to seven days to get the service. If I had an urgent plumbing problem, I probably would have to call in a regular plumber. In that sense, I'm not pleased. If it's something that I can wait for, then that's okay.

The original problem was the shower in the master bedroom was clogged. Somebody from A-1 went out there and unclogged it, and everything was fine. But it seems that the problem is back. It's backed up from the toilet and the shower as well so maybe it was not cleared completely or it wasn't cleared somewhere. But American Home Shield has been good.

My washing machine died and apparently, it had a voltage spike or something that killed two of the main components that run it. I went online and requested a service from AHS and they turned around and contacted somebody to come out within 24 hours. The techs got there pretty quickly but the problem was the parts were on backorder from the manufacturer, which was not their fault. It turned out that there were a lot of machines and equipment that use the same parts and they were overloaded with requests for them. It took a month and a half for the parts to come in but everything works great now. The reps who came out to handle everything were also really polite and they did everything they could quickly and efficiently. So, I could tell they were very good.

We had a garbage disposal that was leaking and Prime Plumbing was sent out. It was very easy when I made the claim for that. Prime Plumbing was great and they got right down to business. They replaced the garbage disposal. I used it once and it was fine. We're happy with American Home Shield. Our experience with them was easy and efficient. They got the job done.
