We had all the locks changed on our new home purchase and the contractor came out really quickly. He was very professional, conversive and friendly. One lock was sticky and he went the extra mile and replaced it all, which was beyond the scope of the service. And that was very nice of him. All in all, it took him about an hour and a bit to get everything taken care of. It was a great service.

AHS couldn't find anybody who would fix my disposal. That time, I had a neighbor as a contractor who came over and fixed my issue for me. More recently, I submitted a claim online to AHS for an exhaust fan. AHS said that they would contact a contractor and Choice Electric Heating and Cooling came. Their tech has done three or four different jobs for me and I've been well pleased every time. I enjoy having him come out. He's very efficient and gets the job done. If he doesn't have the part, he tells me and goes from there. Things have been excellent since the repair.

We had our microwave that would just beep. So I guess the panel was going out on it. This was the first time we've ever done a claim, and it went very smooth. AHS was amazing. I called it in and it was easy. They ended up replacing my whole microwave. I was also able to get on the phone with someone and the lady was very helpful.

When I first bought my house back in 1995, the previous owner had American Home Shield. We got it then and found it to be quite helpful in replacing the appliances because the appliances were quite old. Being a new homeowner and not knowing very much, they stepped right in. Over the years, finances got bad so I had to drop them, but when things got good again, I said that I needed to go back with AHS. In previous times, whatever we needed to be done, they were very punctual in sending someone out to repair whatever was broken and they have not changed over the years.
With our most recent claim, the contractor did an excellent job. He was punctual, very professional and timely. Several other people had come and tried to fix the problem, but they didn't fix it. Then he came here, assessed what was wrong and ordered the parts that he thought he needed. He did whatever needed to be done and we were very pleased.

My washing machine went crazy and was making a lot of noise. I submitted a claim with AHS and it took them three days to send someone out after I filed it. The tech came out, looked at the washing machine, and made a decision that it was beyond repair. A day and a half after that, they got back in touch with me and I was kinda surprised at how good the job they did was. Maybe they were gonna try to repair it, but they went beyond repair, so I got a new one and it didn't come out of my pocket. But I talked to the delivery man and I won't get it until tomorrow. Other than that, whenever I have claims, I'm much better calling and speaking with someone at AHS. I don't do the online stuff too well. And when I called them, I had a hard time understanding the first rep that I talked to but on all the other times, I had a great experience with their reps. I already talked to my brother about AHS and I had to give him the number to call.

We bought our house 2 weeks ago and I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my locks. I called and everybody was so nice. A tech from Pop-A-Lock of Baltimore came right on out and did it. He was terrific and I love him right off the bat. But the lock on the patio door is kind of off and the bolt won't slide through when one turns the key to open, so my husband will take care of that. Still, the experience was very nice.

We had to wait to get the city permit and a few other things because of the holiday but it is all taken care of now.

I had a fridge that wasn’t working and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for that as well as for my trash compactor in the sink. I called them both in at the same time and the claim was dealt with as one but they ended being two different workmen that I needed. The workers who came were very professional and did what they were supposed to do. I have both things working well right now. The experience went okay except for the timing when things happened. I waited all day and took time off work but nobody came. Then, about five minutes to 5:00, the contractor called to say that it would have to be rescheduled, after I’ve already wasted my day. It didn’t happen in the right time frame but it was solved eventually and I got the service I anticipated.

Centurion Plumbing that came out was very good. I like the fact that the tech found out what the problem was right away and he was fast. He was only here for five minutes. It was just a screw that was stuck in my garbage disposal. American Home Shield was recommended by a friend and I've been with them for about four months now. The reps I spoke with were really good. They took all my information and charged my card. They were really informative of who would be here and what their names were. And so, the experience was very good.

For my last claim with AHS involving my garbage disposal, the tech was at my place for five minutes, stuck his hand down the disposal, ran some water, said it was fine and was gone. The garbage disposal starts up okay but then sometimes, it acts up. It rattles some as well as growl and has a high pitched sound. I don't think it's totally fixed.
I have other claims with AHS for a washing machine and a dryer. For the dryer, the tech who was sent cleaned the vent and checked it. For the washer, I got a different company. When the tech turned it on, he found that the transmission was going out. He brought a new one but then in the meantime, the agitator broke. He brought me a new agitator as well and now the washer works just fine. It was a long and drawn-out process and it was days between ordering parts. Still, the company that was sent by AHS was very good.

The contractors that American Home Shield have sent us seemed to have been pretty darn good. Right now, our refrigerator is being worked on through them. And we were without a refrigerator. Instead of just going ahead and getting another one, they're ordering the part. AHS is more into ordering and replacing parts than they are in just going ahead and getting something and replacing the whole unit. We were a little disappointed that something that is 20 years old got repaired instead of replaced. That was on the dishwasher. So far, two of the people they sent out had said, “Well, the whole unit needs to be replaced.” And when they turned in their trouble ticket, AHS had them order a part. But we’ve had a pretty good experience with AHS. They're sending somebody that knows what they're doing.
Good Morning Donald,

I filed a claim to American Home Shield for the heater that would just go off and then, we'd have to turn the breaker off and then restart it. They sent out Comfort Air & Heating and they never did find the issue with it, but they did clean the sensors. So maybe that was it, because since they've serviced it, I haven't had any issues with the air conditioner nor the heater. Everything has been running fine. The tech was great. He was really helpful and he seemed very knowledgeable about what he was doing. I've had American Home Shield coverage for two years now and I would definitely recommend them.

About a month ago, I was at my vacation home and noticed there was water in the basement. I contacted a local heating company because I know American Home Shield takes quite a few days to get there and I wanted to get it done right. The gentleman said that there is a lot of rust and it’s eating through my boiler. Eventually, all that water is gonna give way and my basement is gonna flood so I need a new boiler. I called AHS and they sent a contractor out. We waited for him to respond with his diagnosis. I had his cell phone number and contacted him personally. And day after day, he’d say, “I’m doing it right now.”
Finally, I was fed up and called AHS. AHS called him and got the same runaround. It has been over a month and he still hasn’t gotten his full diagnosis in. I live in New England and it’s really cold here. Also, I only go up to my vacation home on the weekends and if the boiler goes, my basement could be flooded and I wouldn’t even know. However, the AHS reps were very helpful. Every day, when I called them, they called Easy A Appliance to get him to give his diagnosis. They're trying everything they can do, but the contractor isn’t doing his part.
The same thing happened this summer and it took three months for the AC in my primary house to be fixed. The AC guy came and he was supposed to do his diagnosis. I waited over a month, but still no diagnosis. Finally, I called AHS and said that he was not gonna give a diagnosis and that they need to send somebody out. It was the dead of summer and I have not had an AC. It had been three months by the time I got my AC put in. It's a common occurrence that AHS doesn't have quality contractors to work with. Although I’ve had some very good ones, I’ve had some very bad ones too.
Hi Linda,
Thank you for providing feedback about your American Home Shield experience. I would be glad to speak with you and get the boiler issues resolved.

A-American Plumbing came out for the toilet, which was running all the time and didn’t flush properly. I called American Home Shield and my interaction with the representative was very good. It was very easy and helpful. They said I would be contacted within 24 to 48 business hours and I was contacted within 24. Then the issue was fixed later that day. It was quicker than I thought it would be. The problem was that we couldn’t turn the water to the toilet all the way off. So the contractor took that valve apart, put in new washers then put a new tank valve in. He also put in a new lever and now the toilet works perfectly and very quickly. He was in and out of here in 45 minutes, maybe less.

The contractor that AHS sent out was amazing. I told them that I was gonna be a few minutes late, and they were nice, and they waited for me to get there. They might’ve been there 5 to 10 minutes before I got there, which wasn’t too terrible. It was the second time that they came out since we were still having an ongoing problem there even after they originally did the cleaning through that pipe. The original guy came out along with them. They pulled out my washer and dryer, disconnected everything, and then plugged it all back up.
When they were doing their next round of cleaning, they realized that one of the pipes was broken on the inside. So they replaced that and tested all the water to make sure I didn’t have anything else overflowing through my garage floor anymore. And they nailed it the second round. I couldn’t have asked for better service, and both of them were perfect. They cleaned up their messes. They didn’t leave anything for me to have to clean up, which was really, really nice. They answered all my questions and explained to me what they were doing while they were doing it so I had a full understanding, and I could explain it to my husband since he couldn’t be there that round. I loved it. I’m satisfied with AHS so far.

We had our HVAC come out and AHS sent out Tin Man Heating. The tech looked at our problems, ordered the part that was needed and worked on our equipment. Everything went well. Another time, we had a plumbing claim and the tech they sent looked at the problems I called in. He started working and found that he had to go order some part because what he brought was only standard equipment. When had to work on one of the water heaters, the blow-off valve was of a different size so we had to order that as well. That tech took care of all the issues, was in and out in no time and did a good job. On top of that, he also fixed our toilet and it now flushes correctly. My refrigerator wasn't working one time. The first guy sent by AHS from AA Dependable made some adjustments and had to order a part. However, he ordered the wrong part and the second guy who came had to go back and reorder it. Somebody came again to put that part on but then discovered that my refrigerator needed an ice maker. So, he ordered that and came back and put that part on as well. It took AA Dependable four times to fix my issue but they got it right.
However, when AHS' contractors come out, a lot of times they have to order a part and they gotta come back. I don't understand why I have to wait two or three days before they come back. I already gotta wait 24 hours for the contractor to get in touch with me and come to my house. My situation is already bad when I call and worse by the time their contractor comes.
Last year, I had a problem with my faucet so I called in for a plumber. There was water leaking under my sink the whole time and I had to put towels under it and switch those out every two or three hours and put more towels. This was going during the whole 24 hours after I called. The plumber comes and tells me that he would need to get a part and left. It was a day or two before Thursday which was Thanksgiving and he didn't come back 'til the following Monday. By then, the bottom of my sink was call cracked up from the water constantly being on it. All he had to do was change the faucet and it only took 20 minutes to do that. It ruined my thanksgiving and I couldn't cook my turkey ‘cause I couldn’t use my sink. It was just awful.

I have been with AHS years ago, and then I stopped. I didn't use them for three or four years, and so I got rid of them. As our house is getting a little older now, I thought it might be a good idea to get back because they always did a great job for us. When we had a heating problem, American Home Shield sent someone out there. He didn't, however, know what was going on. He said it was fixed and it didn't last an hour. It went back to doing what it was doing.
Then they sent another fellow, from Cutting Edge Total Comfort, out a couple of days later. We called him directly, and he came out and took care of the business. He took a part with him, rebuilt it and then brought it back a couple of days later. So, within a week, he had us up and running. Everything went well, and I was impress with them. But I still have a problem -- my heating doesn't seem to be blowing hot air. It's warm air, but not hot air like it was. Nevertheless, the contractor was professional and efficient, and they seemed to know what they were doing.

My first claim experience with AHS for my heater was horrible. The first company they sent, Three Brothers AC and Heating, was full of crap. They checked my heating out and the tech said he didn't know what was going on. He said he couldn't do anything and that it wasn't an electrical problem but a problem with my furnace. Three Brothers left and said they weren't coming back. The last company that AHS sent was great. They were able to diagnose and fix my issue. The tech said that all Three Brothers had to do was try and that they didn't want to put in their effort. The last company went above and beyond trying to make sure we had some heat. They had a piece ordered and came back out to install it all in a great timeframe. It was a good experience and now, there are no more cold nights for us.

Twice, I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. They stayed with my concern until the repairs were done properly. They had my air conditioner repaired, which was about fine for me. And the faucet repair was fine too. I was happy with DeLuca Plumbing's service. The first attempt was to repair the faucet with parts supplied by the original manufacturer. When that didn't work, they ordered a new faucet and installed it properly.

I wanted to be prepared if something happens to go wrong and American Home Shield was referred by a friend. When I submitted a claim, everybody was very courteous and everything ended up being taken care of. I was given all the options that I had once they came to check and see what was wrong. I couldn't have asked for a better service. The oven in my stove went out and it happened to be the control board. There was no replacement for it so they had to try to get it replaced. After the technician installed it, it still did not work but a couple days later, it started working. When I called American Home Shield to let them know that it was working, they said since the technician said it wasn’t working, they had to go ahead and replace it. It was done immediately so that was great. I was very pleased with the prompt service that was given to me and how informative and polite everybody was.

My AC unit was making some noise, and I wasn't sure if I should be using it with the noise it was making. I went online and submitted a claim to AHS. It was pretty easy to use their website. The contractor was good. He contacted me immediately and showed up on time. He checked everything and then he said it was not the unit itself, it was just the ductwork that was making something else and started to make noise. I've been with AHS for at least three years, and I don't like the price increase in my monthly payments.

When I heard some water coming down underneath the house, I went to my crawlspace door and found out there was a broken pipe. I got American Home Shield's customer service number and called them up. They told me that they were calling the contractors and that the contractors would call me sometime that day or early the next day. The contractor called me the same day and came the next day. The pipe had worked itself to loose from the fitting. They screwed the pipe back up and put another belt out where the belt that was holding the pipe up had broken. I'm happy they resolved the issue. I was over elated.

American Plumbing Service took care of the plumbing issue. It was fabulous. They came in and I told them what happened and what was going on, and they looked at it and the technician said it was plugged in, but there was no power to it. He could tell that it was bad. He called the office and he said since there was a rate on cover on there, it would be an extra $150 that I had to pay out of pocket for them, which I did. They went ahead and replaced it, had everything back down. They were quick and efficient. They brought down a bag and put the old sump pump on it, wrapped it up so it wouldn't get all over my floors. They did a very good job. They were very professional. I also asked them if they didn't mind looking at my other issue and the technician said sure but that I still gonna have to file a separate claim if it was bad with my homeowners.
He looked at it and he said they were gonna need this and this and that it would gonna cost more than what it would to replace it. He said he would call AHS and tell them that I needed another service call on it. He actually looked at it while he was here, so I greatly appreciate that. I also believe that they're gonna come out and replace it for me.
I also have a pending claim with American Home Shield regarding my dishwasher. When the home inspector turned it on, he said it worked but the first time I used it, it covered my dishes in this white, hard stuff. I had to soak everything in vinegar to get it clean, and wash my hand. It was the same thing with the washer. The inspector turned it on and it worked. But if you turn it on to a medium or high, the thing starts rocking. I'm 260 pounds. I'm sitting on that thing but it was banging and rocking and going right out the front door. The contractor came out for the dishwasher and the washer and he showed me the light in the dishwasher, and I looked at it and everything was full of salt. The two gentleman who came out were very nice and they explained everything to me.
They were quick too. It only took them maybe 45 minutes or so, and they did it all. He showed me where the sump pump. I said thought I had a problem with the sprinklers leaking. He showed where the sump pump comes out to discharge in my neighbor's and that's why it's always wet. I was given a cash out for one of the two, the dishwasher or the washer. I faxed over the receipt that I paid, showing that I paid for it. They were supposed to issue me a Home Depot card for one of them within 48 hours but I haven't seen it yet.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Jerome.Have an amazing weekend.

He had the part in the vehicle, and now it's working great. I’m very happy with the quality of the people that have been authorized to come out, and the response time.

Some of the reps at American Home Shield sound very knowledgeable. But some of them don’t. The first time that I have other issues, the rep told me, “Let me see.” And the way that he said it, it really should be done. The company came three times to my house but they did not fix the issue until the third time and that really got me upset. The second time that I called American Home Shield, the rep said that they would check if they covered that part. I told the rep that according to the contract, it should be covered. The rep then replied that they didn’t know if it was going to be covered, so it needed to be approved. I didn't like that part.
I had three issues. My doorbell light has been off for months, the ballast in my closet light got sparks, and then the outlet outside the house shuts down the entire unit of the light. The young man from AimHigh Electric did very good. He was amazing. I was very pleased with them. But the reps at American Home Shield should know their information they are sharing because I am paying.
I got a call and they told me that I owe something to American Home Shield. But I pay once a year and I pay ahead. But they gave me a bad credit because they had the mistake of not looking at my account that I pay the total amount of the balance once a year. And then they were calling me back, apologizing, and they were pampering me and they said they would offer you a better deal. But the mistake was done towards my name and that was really something that made me upset. But because I live by myself, I need someone to help me with my things. I told them that I need the good quality of people that they’re sending because they were sending people that are not acceptable. I feel very insecure with the type of representative I allowed in my house. So they gave me such a good deal that made me try with them once more and see how it works. But the copay went higher.

The refrigerator was under warranty and it took LG two and a half weeks to get us the part even though Gloria at Air Cool was calling every day. LG gave her three different claim numbers because she kept calling back, and they kept saying 48 hours. She called back in 48 hours and they didn’t have the part. They finally got it at 5 o’clock Monday and installed it at 9 o’clock the next morning. It was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Gloria was great and it was a good experience. Air Cool was fabulous and a great resource for American Home Shield.
I had a couple of plumbing issues and the plumber that AHS sent out took four days. They said it was within their contract. They have 72 hours to get out, plus the 24 hours from the call time. If you have a plumbing issue like a clogged kitchen sink, you can’t go four days with that. I had Lee, a sales rep for this area, call AHS and they sent out another plumber that same day who fixed my clogged sink. They sent out that plumber that takes four days another time, and they did the same thing. That time, I paid for it myself to get it done. Other than that, the calls I made with American Home Shield have been fabulous. Sometimes, the vendors aren’t responsive but AHS has been great.

I've had a policy with American Home Shield for years and I don't find them to be very responsive. They should make it easier to get in touch with somebody. They do a great job online, but if you need to make a phone call, it's really frustrating and difficult. If you have a problem with the contractor, that's frustrating too. With certain claims I've had over the years, I feel like the people they've sent out are marginal at best, and they've replaced several things in my home with substandard equipment compared to what I had that broke. That is not satisfactory, like when I have a well-built water heater and they replace it with a piece of garbage water heater.
One of the reasons I have kept the policy is because I had older air conditioning units, and when one of them did have a problem, they offered me $500 for a $10,000 replacement. They have all these ways of getting out of paying for everything. I also had a garage door opener replaced from them that worked for a very short time. It's a garage door I don't open very often 'cause it's a third car garage door that we rarely use. I had another private contractor come out to look at it 'cause my door was stuck open and that left my house insecure. He showed me exactly that it was horrible quality. The initial contractor replaced it with something really cheap and crappy, and it's already broken again. AHS should tell you they're not gonna replace with equal quality materials.
On the other hand, everything was fine with the claim we had for a spa issue. Pure Pool Service did a great job and I was very pleased with their service. They got back to me and they had to order additional parts, and they made sure to follow up with me and let me know what the timing was. And they spoke English, which was helpful.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

I have been trying to resolve an issue with my basement drain for over a month now. The first plumber came and reviewed the work and was approved but they could not handle the problem. The second plumber came, reviewed the work and was approved but they went MIA, just stopped answering calls from either us or AHS. The third plumber they sent was ready to solve the issue and AHS denied them. They input a completely different issue into the system. They did not input the information the plumber gave them. To cover their mistake, they even tried to argue the very definition of the task which was incorrect. My issue has yet to be resolved. This could have been easy had the representative just listened to the plumber and maybe read the diagnosis back to him to clarify as this has already been diagnosed twice.
Good Morning Stephanie,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

We have been loyal American Home Shield customers for years. However, last Wednesday, our side by side fridge stopped working and we called for help. With Thanksgiving, we didn't get a service call set up until Friday and when the tech arrived @ 400 pm, he told us he was not authorized to work on our brand of fridge (which we had told American Shield). When we called back to American Home Shield, we were initially told no one would could call us to set up an appointment until Monday and then finally they agreed to contact an authorized company to come to our home on Saturday. The tech finally arrived @ 7:00 pm Friday night and promised to send his report in by Monday end of business. It is now Wednesday and there is no report and American Home Shield refuses to do anything. So, we are now looking at probably two weeks without a working refrigerator. This is not why we have a home warranty to help us with repairs.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

The representative stated that I could go on monthly payments so I did. I called today to cancel because we sold the house. The real estate department representative informed me that our contract renewed yearly back in August but we were put on monthly payments instead of yearly. They charged me an early termination fee which was equal to one month payment! Had I been informed of this by the representative back in July, I would have not renewed. Poor communication! We paid them monthly for years. We had a leak in the waterline of our refrigerator. The water leak damaged the wood floor behind the refrigerator. They came out. We paid the 75.00 co-pay. We were told the issue was fixed. We had the floor repaired. The refrigerator continued to have the same issue. Unfortunately because water was pooling under and behind it we didn't realize there was still an issue until we moved the refrigerator. Long story short. 4 service calls, four people telling us that this time it was fixed. Refrigerator wasn't fixed. The wood we replaced is again destroyed. We just bought a new refrigerator. Not only did they not fix what they were paid to fix, their negligence caused a bigger repair.
Garage door opener stopped working after 18 years. First they told us the garage door was too heavy for the opener. This was the same opener that had been opening our garage door flawlessly since 2002. Service person told us that unless we had our "maintenance records" they wouldn't be able to replace/repair it. Not believing that could possibly be accurate my husband called the office and they confirmed that was the case. We paid in good faith believing what they advertised was true. They did not come through for us. The garage door opener was a small issue and they wouldn't stand behind that. I'm confident they wouldn't be there for the bigger items.

American Home Shield is a money trap. I called in for service for a leaking water heater and they sent out a repairman the next day. The water heater needed to be replaced and AHS would pay for it. So far, so good right? BUT the repairman said installing a new hot water heater required “modifications” like hooking back up the water lines, temperature pressure lines, turning gas back on and putting in a vent. These modifications came to $850. American Home Shield won’t pay for modifications— which is exactly why the plumber called them such, obviously. AHS won’t let you shop around either, so you MUST pay whatever the contractor wants no matter how ridiculous! So when I called to cancel my warranty, I was told I would owe AHS money! AHS is a fraud and deserve to be put out of business. DON’T make my mistake. RUN!

We had a leak in one of the hot water heaters that is in the attic. It leaked through the attic onto the second floor down to the master closet. I'm at home all the time, so I'm in and out of that room all the time, and we didn’t notice it. Then I went in there in the evening and there was a water spot on the floor, and then my laundry basket that was empty of clothes had two inches of water in it. So, we immediately called and they were able to schedule us as an emergency situation for the following morning, which was very nice.
The gentleman from DNB Plumbing Home Services came out, assessed the situation, and pretty much went above and beyond as far as his explanations and what the follow up would be. Then he wasn’t able to turn the water heater on because, apparently, the pipe that emits the carbon monoxide was not hooked up to the flute going out of the attic. It had been circulating within our attic for quite some time. So, we are lucky to be alive.
He said, “I can call these people to come in and assess the water damage and dry your house out.” He set all that up, and then that person was here for four days. So, it was a like a chain reaction. It started with the DNB, and not only did they do what they could do, they got us the person that could do the drying, and then that followed into the person who would assess the water damage. So, now, we’re just waiting for my homeowners insurance to let me know what is going on and to find out when we could start the work.
Every other work that has been done, the payment went to the insurance company. Then, after all those things were put together, then DNB came back, went ahead and recommended a roof guy to come. They had to coordinate that so that they could both be here at the same time, which is something I said I cannot do. I don’t know any of these people. So, from DNB on down, they coordinated all of the aspects of the repair, and then they came in and they put everything up to code and replaced the water heater.
We had two water heaters and they replaced one of them -- we didn’t have hot water for seven days, but we managed to survive. I told the tech from DNB that I was very grateful to him, that he did a great job, and that I wanted it passed down to his supervisors because it is important to let people know when they’re doing a good job as well. I had another company for years, and after they left my 90-year-old mother without air conditioning in the middle of summer for over a month, I switched over. They were awful. This is my first year of having American Home Shield and they have been awesome. To date, I’m extremely pleased with them.

But when the tech came out, he was great. He was very informative, and he helped us out and gave us information about future issues.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield has been easy. Although I usually call, I did my freezer claim online. Someone then called to set up an appointment and the guy came out a day later. He figured out what the problem was. Some kind of board had to be replaced. He told us to unplug the freezer for two days so that the excess would defrost and that by the time he put the new card in, it would all be done. He came back a couple of days later after the part was ordered and put it in. Everything seems to be working fine now. We also had a plumbing issue last year and AHS worked with us on it. We've had good luck with what they have been doing.
We are happy to know that we were able to resolve your claims. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing weekend.

When my new propane company came to fill the tank, I had a gas leak. So they said that they felt like it was probably under the house. I called and they sent out a plumber then who refused to go under the house. He said it was in my stove. So I called American Home Shield back, and they sent out Appliance Network. They said, "Yes, in fact, there was a problem with the stove." So then, they ordered the parts, came back and fixed it, and that was wonderful. That part is all taken care of, but I still had a leak though. And so then, they had to send another plumber who tracked it down. I had two leaks with my dryer and there was another leak that is my gas fireplace. But Appliance Network did a wonderful job. The tech was on time and courteous. I would hire them again. When I submitted the claim over the phone, customer service had also been fantastic.

I was with American Home Shield for 20 years at one time. And then I tried a new warranty company. I was using Sears because I had them come out to work on a refrigerator. If I joined their home warranty, their service call was free. So I did that, but their warranty’s terrible. I canceled it, and started back with AHS in November. York Mechanical came out to replace a sewer pump, and everything was outstanding. The contractors always call me before they get here. And with AHS if they can’t fix something, they replace it.

My first experience submitting a claim to American Home Shield was difficult because English was a second language for the people I talked to. I had a hard time understanding them. With my recent claim for a water heater that burst, I had a Native American speaker. I submitted a plumbing claim on a Friday and AHS' contractor, Accurate Plumbing Solutions, was at my place by Monday. I was happy with their service. The guy who came out had a lot of experience and he knew what he was doing. He even showed me how to fix my sink while he was there. Things have been fine since the repair. I have since recommended Accurate to my neighbor across the street.

Every time I've needed something, the service time at American Home Shield has been very quick. Weatherwise came out recently and once we figured out what was going on, it went well. The motor had died, so the tech replaced the motor. It was a little bit tricky getting the service guy into the location where the water heater was 'cause it's in the attic, but otherwise, I was very satisfied.

Our water heater went out so I contacted American Home Shield the same day and put in a request for service. I was contacted the same day by the service provider Tao Home Construction and we were able to get someone out that evening within 15 to 20 minutes. He told me his name was Max and he did a wonderful job. He had the problem diagnosed, repaired, and was on his way. He was really a nice guy. So, everything got fixed, they did not have to replace the water heater at this time, and it was a really good experience.
When submitting a claim, either by calling in and speaking with someone or by just utilizing the app, I haven't had any issues or problems. I used the app the last time and I didn't even speak with anyone at AHS, and it went off without a hitch. But one thing, they changed some things as far as how we pay for the service 'cause it is a $75 fee every time there's a provider when we request services. When we first started, I had to pay the provider when they came out or AHS pays them once the person has shown up, but they now bill us almost immediately when we place the service. So, the billing already gets going. Still, we've had great success and have had good experiences thus far with American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield due to a leaking shower in my rental home and the communication was really good. I had always been alerted who the contractors were right away and when to expect them. And, generally, I've had really good experiences with the contractors. The people who came out for my rental home found that the putty around the shower drain was cracked and dried. So, they replaced the putty. My tenants have not reported to me that they’ve had any other problem since then, so that should have taken care of it.

When we had a pretty bad water leak from our hot water tank out in the garage, AHS sent out Plumb Genius. They did everything. We’re gonna have to make a few minor alterations or modifications. I'm out over $800 for that. I have no idea what American Shield is paying for besides the tank and its installation. I’m looking at the regular 40-gallon tanks and they run maybe 400. I’m paying double what American Shield is paying, plus the $600 so far this year. I'm beginning to question why I even have the warranty? I can put $50 a month back in a savings account just for home expenses and save it for when I need repair because so far, I’m not seeing a whole lot for what I’m paying.
I haven't had any difficulty with submitting claims to American Home Shield. The only problem I’ve had with the warranty is that they cover very little. I’m paying a certain amount of money every month. On top of that, this is the second time since we’ve been here and it’s been about a year and a half. Every time somebody comes out, it’s $100 on top of the $42 that I pay every month. If I look at what I pay a month for the year, it’s close to $500. This year, I’ve called AHS out once and it’s gonna cost us $600. I renewed with American Shield back earlier this year. For next year when the renewal comes up, I’m gonna look at it really closely. It’s costing them a third of what the total is and I’m stuck with two-thirds of the bill. Other than that Plumb Genius has been good. This coming Saturday, they’ll be out to do the replacement.

One of the burners on our stove wasn’t working. I filed a claim on the phone and it went fine. The stove was so old that RC Appliance can’t refurbish it. So, nothing was done. If we bought a new stove, Home Shield would pay a maximum of 3,000. It’s a big, professional stove, and a new stove is about $13,000. So, we may just live with what we got and that one burner. You can get it to work if you manually light it. We got up to a year to decide what to do. The tech came back out and reinstalled the equipment that he took off the stove and it is working. So, we are using it in that condition. That one burner, just where the fact that it doesn't light by itself. We just didn't wanna spend an additional $10,000 for a stove.

Customer service at AHS is not that great. They do not handle their contractors very well. I had a service request for my heating unit inspection and a guy from Fick's Mechanical came. I specifically told the contracting company that I was on my way and asked them to ask the contractor to wait for me. I told them repetitively to inform me at least an hour before the tech arrives so I could stop my job and reach home on time. Their guy waited only for 5 or 10 minutes and he left my premises.
That contractor charged me $89 for the next visit in order for him to come back. I contacted AHS a hundred times to give me my $89 back because that was not my mistake. The contractor did not text me that he was on the way. He only texted me 20 minutes back. I told AHS to talk to the contractor and ask him to reschedule the service but AHS could not help me with that. They could not convince the contractor. I was at my home in half an hour but the tech from Fick's had just left.
More recently, I was not able to get water from my tap properly. It was completely loose. I filed another claim and AHS sent United Air Temp. Their tech came and fixed things perfectly fine. He was good. But then, there was a part that was broken in my unit and the tech said that had to be ordered. There was a delay in ordering the part and I had to wait for three weeks for the mail. Still, he came back and everything is functioning well since the repair. The only problem was that he came late.

He did a superb job and he used professional language throughout the process. Everything that he detailed about the operation within the sequence, he gave the correct time, the whole nine yards. He was on time coming and going.
I also feel well pleased with American Home Shield's customer service, as well as the way they covered the information. I had no problem with the way they addressed the situation. Home Shield needs to stop using companies that their repair people are also salesmen who get commission on sales. I always do preventive maintenance for the summer, like how they check the coolant. Immediately, that guy, 15 seconds he was there, went around by the house and said "Oh you need a new unit and this one we can save you one for..." I told him to get the hell off my property. I noticed my neighbor was having his unit serviced. I walked over there and asked the guy could he service mine, and he came over and did it. And with the guy that they sent out here, he said it was too low and it's against the law to put anything else in it. He also said, "I've never heard of that before. He's just lying to you. He just wants to sell you something." And that guy was so ridiculous, after that, he called the next couple of days before I told him, "Do not call my house again."
So Home Shield should never get those people that get a commission when they come out here on sale. All they do is try to sell you something, not help you. I wouldn't recommend that contractor to anybody. I was disappointed. That was poor for what they were trying to do. Other than that, I submitted a claim for the garbage disposal over the phone and the rep was good. When I would reset the thing out, it was wet. The tech said, "That's a good thing you didn't." So, they were very helpful and very professional. So far, so good.

I submitted my claim for my HTG to AHS on a Thursday morning. But then their contractor, All Week Heating and Cooling wasn't able to come out until Tuesday. Also, when they came out that Tuesday, that was the first contact they had with me. They didn't even call to schedule the visit. They just sent me a text saying that was the day they were coming. When the techs arrived, they discovered that the blower motor was bad which was what I suspected in the first place. They told me they were gonna have to order it.
Because it was a holiday week, they probably wouldn’t make it back out until the following week on Monday. I told them that wasn't gonna be acceptable and that I needed things fixed before the holiday. They worked diligently, called me back that afternoon and set up an appointment for the following day to come out and replace it. I felt that All Week Heating handled that situation really well and I was happy with the outcome. Everything has been good so far. I'm very happy to have my AHS coverage. My dishwasher was not working properly and was not draining. The guy told me to email it and do a claim. Sears, the contractor, was terrible. They came out, looked at my dishwasher, and told me that I needed a new one. My dishwasher is only two years old and it is not cheap, and he told me that he thought the motor was burned up, and so he made a request. Then, I called AHS and I did not realize that I had to wait 90 days. So, they told me they would reimburse me $150. Then when I sent the claim in to them, the gentleman yesterday told me I am only reimbursing me $120. I said, "That's not what they said." They said it was because of labor, but I said my total cost was over $200, $120 for the labor and I have $72 for parts. And it was not the drain line, it was the drain pump. The guy put a new drain pump on it, and it has worked fine.
He also said it would be 45 days before I can get a refund. Then, I sent the thing in, but I never heard anything back. And it has been two weeks. So, then I called him, and he said, "Oh, something happened. They never even put it in that they've received it. And I will rush this right now." I asked when I can expect my check and he said in 45 days. That was very poor service. I would have thought that Sears knew what they were doing, but I was in disbelief that I needed a new dishwasher. The gentleman was nice, but there was a lot of difference between a motor and a pump. He was just analyzing and he was going to send somebody else out. But I was not sure he knew what he was looking for or at.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

The temperature of our refrigerator was going very high. Sometimes, up to 70 degrees, which spoiled some of our food. But I know that the food was covered by AHS. They sent two group of technicians here. The first one did not show up on the appointment. I complained. He called the American Home Shield that I cancelled the appointment, which was not true. And then, another company came here and they showed up to my house two times. They said that AHS doesn’t pay for the clean up and that I have to pay it. I said, “Okay. Do it.” Because I didn’t want the refrigerator to stay the same. With that, he charged me $90 and my refrigerator was not fixed.
After two days, I called them, they said, “We told American Home Shield.” And in a couple of days that I followed up, American Home Shield told me, "I’m sorry. This is not repairable. They got back and said this is not repairable, and we'll reimburse you for it.” That came as a surprise for me. This is a Sub-Zero, probably a $15,000 refrigerator and they'd only pay me $2,700 for it. They told me that it’s on my contract. As I was working on this and talking to some people, I said, “They usually make mistakes. These technicians do not understand. They are not actually qualified but they get a contract with AHS. They come and they do not fear responsibility because they get their money from AHS anyway or from any insurance company when they come.”
I thought that the best way before I accept that reimbursement is to try one more time because it’s a $15,000 refrigerator. I called AHS and told them to send me another person as a second opinion. And I’m glad that I did and that was the good part of it. They sent another company, which I actually keep them on file. It’s called Emergency Appliance Repair. It was very obvious, by the way that the tech was talking, that he understood the issue. He just looked at it and asked me, “If there’s anything that you have on both freezer and refrigerator, turn everything off, unplug for 48 hours.” And he showed me some specific places of the freezer. He said, “As soon as you saw this icy stuff is gone, try again.”
I did it and he was following with me, and he asked me take a picture when it’s clean. I took a picture when everything was melted, sent it to him, and he said, “Okay. Let me save me a trip. Now, put it back again.” I plugged it and it was working very fine, and we are 100% happy with it. Unfortunately, when we call to repair, AHS don’t give us to somebody with responsible management. They send us out to Philippines or India for the appointments, and those people are very good, they try to help, but just the appointment. When I ask for a supervisor, they give me one of their own supervisor on those outsourced countries.
And when their contractors come, they do not understand. They said, “This is not our job. We don’t understand it.” And then, American Home Shield would say, “Okay. We give you that much money.” At least, I appreciate people like this Emergency Appliance, who comes, who cares, who stayed with it and checked with me. He gave me his card and said, “Check with me if you have any time. Any problem after that situation, call me.” I’ve called him and I appreciated it. When I told American Home Shield that I wanted a second opinion, I’m glad that they they did not resist and connected us to Emergency Appliance Repair. They did a good job. I wish AHS would get qualified contractors, not just whoever that has a license.

When Integrity Appliance came out, they determined what the problem was and that they needed to order parts. The thing they came out to look at was over 20 years old and they're trying to find if they can get the parts. I was told that they would find out whether the parts were available and then they would contact AHS to tell them how much the parts were if they could be found. Then AHS would be contacting me.
When I had a problem with my air conditioner, the guy came out and took care of it. It was a $4,000 job and I only had to pay the $75. However, they had to put Freon in the air conditioner and AHS allows $10 a pound and wouldn't pay the going rates so I had to pay an additional $500. It was either pay it, or the air conditioner wouldn't be fixed. AHS is very responsive though. I can either call them or they have a website where I can file a claim. Their website is easy to use. Also, for the most part, the vendors that they use have been professional and efficient at what they do.

I'm worried about things breaking in my house so I got AHS. The website has been super easy to use. They email me a status update. I go in and select what service I need and then give my credit card number for the co-pay. And then, it confirms all that and then after the problem has been assigned to someone, it would say that, "Your repair has been assigned" and it tells me what company. The team there is responsive. And I've always been sent decent contractors. No one creepy. They've been really good about coming and scheduling. They come for the initial visit and see the problem and then they schedule the service. And no one's been odd about working with us because it's through American Home Shield.
Recently we had a pipe that was leaking in our basement, so whenever we used one of our bathrooms a bunch of water would go into our basement. The contractor came out and looked at it and showed me right where the big crack was that we hadn't even seen. And then he took a look and measured some things to see what kind of pipes he would need, and put in the claim to AHS. He scheduled me for a follow-up and then he came back and repaired the sectional pipe. That leak was totally fixed. AHS is a great company. We've had offers to step-rate, and it's service we pay for and it's fair we pay each month and then they do what they're supposed to do. It's worth the money. I recommended it to three friends just this weekend.

The contractor that AHS sent was great. He was very personable and very knowledgeable of what he was dealing with with my refrigerator, and he was just a nice person. However, I was without a refrigerator for over two weeks. That's the process I didn't like. After it was deemed to be replaced, it took him a while to figure out how much they were gonna replace it for. Then they let me know what that was. I went and bought one myself, then I had to be reimbursed, and then I had to wait another 10 to 12 days for that.
Last year, I had an issue with my air conditioning, and it really didn't behoove me to have American Home Shield because all they say was for $300 or something that had to be done inside, and then a major work was outside, which was $4,000. So, the advertising that said they'll take care of your furnace and your air conditioning is false. They didn't take care of my air conditioning at all.
I could've paid for what they did without them, and that still had to come out of my pocket with $4,000. That didn't help me. I started at $52 and now it's up to $75 a month, and I don't use it every month. I pay for two air conditioning units but I didn't get any relief in that matter. So, I really contemplated getting rid of the plan. But my wife said we'd just hold on to it a little while longer. I'm like that's $75 a month I could use somewhere else. It wasn't beneficial in my opinion.

I bought my first house in 1990 and I had that house for 14 years, then I moved into my current home in 2004. Initially, I had the American Home Shield attached to my mortgage but somehow, it got dis-attached and I had to restart it again. Still, I've had American Home Shield for almost 30 years now and I continue to renew. Primarily, when something breaks, I call them up and they find the person that needs to come out and fix whatever is the problem. If I had to do it myself, then I would have to search to find someone to actually do the work. Also, another reason would be the coverage. Recently, I had an issue with the garage door. The door itself was not covered, so I had to pay for the repair associated with the door and then the stuff about the opener. The base problem was the spring right above the door which is the mechanism that opens it. The tech from Holiday Home repair repaired and fixed everything that needs to be fixed.

Sometimes I may have to wait a week, and when an appliance is not working, a week may not be what you wanna hear, but most of the time it was very good service. Recently they sent a technician from Family AC Service Solutions and he was very helpful. He made recommendations and got everything going.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Micheal. It's great knowing the AHS is beneficial to you and your family. Have a good weekend.

We’ve had a lot of issues with our house so having a home warranty is good so far. I have a claim in with American Home Shield for a plumber ‘cause we aren’t getting hot water out of our kitchen sink and we have an instant water heater that isn’t working. Also, we have a wine refrigerator that isn’t working, a trash compactor that isn’t working, a gas grill that isn’t working and a fireplace that we can’t turn on, and none of those are covered. So, I’m kinda iffy on this whole thing. If more stuff were covered, I’d be more happy. We’re new to the area and I don’t even know who to call for any of those stuff. However, our first claim was getting a new key lock and C&D Lock and Security was sent out. The tech was very nice and everything went really well. We're really happy with our new locks.
Hi Mrs. Moreau,
I am pleased to hear about your experience with American Home Shield and the locks that were replaced. I hope you continue to enjoy the coverage we provide!

Signing up with American Home Shield was easy. Since going with them, their contractors have been good with calling back and scheduling appointments. One time, the lever in the shower which I turn for the water to go hot/cold was not working. The water wouldn't turn off all the way. I submitted a claim and City Plumbing came out. The plumber called when he was about 30 minutes away. He got to our place and had the problem fixed within 30 minutes.

The contractors have been good. When we had a plumbing issue, the contractor was polite and they got everything taken care of when they came out. But we had a company one time, and the tech came and then he never came back. I had to call them, and they had to send somebody else. But as far as American Home Shield, I don’t have any problem with them. They do what they say they’re gonna do.

We've had American Home Shield for two years now. It came with the house when we bought it so we kept it. We had a claim the first year and we had heard of other people having issues with the houses in our neighborhood. I would rather have the insurance and fall back on that rather than getting totally surprised. So far, my experience with AHS has been as I would expect. But I wish the turnaround time isn't quite as long. They are quick to assign a contractor but I always call the contractor instead of waiting for them to call me to make sure that I get on their calendar. There is also the process of having to go back and confirm with American Home Shield. I understand that they have to get approval but there was an instance when it was 29 degrees when our heat went out the first time.
I filed the claim on a Friday so it was already an unfortunate timing because then you have the weekend. American Home Shield closes early and all the heating people closed at 3:30, so I wasn’t able to get anybody until the following week. The tech guy from America Air Conditioning & Heating came out on Tuesday, so that took four days including the weekend. They had to come out three times. The first time they came out, it was to see what was wrong with my heating unit then they determined that the igniter switch was bad. They got a replacement igniter switch. They came out and put it in on another day.
A week later, it wasn’t working again, which was frustrating. They sent someone out and he determined that it was the faulty igniter switch that they put in. The tech replaced it with another one that he had in his vehicle. Also, the process of getting the part was a fail on the contractor’s part because the people in the office just overlooked it and messed up. I had to follow up with them a couple of times about the part. Other than that, the contractor was fine although there was one guy who was late. The other two guys, on the other hand, were on time. The quality of work was fine, assuming that it was a bad igniter switch and nothing that they did. After the repair, it’s been kinda warm so the heat hasn’t kicked on very much. But everything seems to be working.

The garage doors have a sensor, the little lighting system at the bottom to keep you from closing the door on somebody. The sensor was messed up and I tried the usual thing like wiggling the wires. It was a simple fix, but I decided I did not want to mess with it because I might make it worse. I contacted American Home Shield through their website. Submitting the claim online was fairly easy and simple, but I was surprised at how little they asked.
Flash Garage Door contacted me to set up an appointment and they came out and fixed the problem. The tech adjusted a few things to make it work better. It was about a five-minute fix, and he felt bad he noticed some other things and he adjusted those. So, he did a great job. He was on time, friendly, sharp and very helpful. Overall, I got a warranty mainly because of the simplicity of just calling them and then they take care of it. American Home Shield has been sort of hit and miss. Some things have been very difficult to deal with, while some things have been straightforward. Then, some have been fixed but it was difficult.

There were some buckling tiles in our shower and a gentleman from Advanced came out. He was professional, all the way, and he seemed to know what he was doing and what he was talking about. The issue was that the valve where you turn the water on and off was leaking on the inside. He replaced that and he had to replace the handle because there had been so much moisture in there, it just corroded and melted to the actual valve itself.
Also, he called out the excavation company to look at it and they said that we got a major problem. The back of our shower goes to the wall to our master closet and not only was there moisture behind the tiles, but it had gone to the bottom of the wall in our master closet. There are water marks on the wall, in the carpeting, and in the padding. And at that time, we called our homeowner's warranty people. Everything went perfect with this claim and I’m satisfied with Home Shield. The last time we had a claim was a water heater some months ago. That one didn’t go quite as smooth as other claims had gone. I had a little bit of trouble with that particular contractor. But for the most part, Home Shield is always right there on it.

The tech also educated me on maintaining the unit. He did an amazing job. He said the issue was the motor, and that it was a very costly job. AHS' contractor, United Air Temp, was late. They took their time when they could have been at my place sooner. Plus, the work is still not done and they're waiting on some part. With AHS, customer service has been okay but they've been nothing special. For this claim, I ended up paying $1,200 out of my pocket while I had insurance. I had to pay $100 for their contractor to come in as well. AHS has a fine line in their contract making me responsible for buying the gas of my compressor. They know the gas costs $150 a pound and they put that they would cover only $10 per pound in the contract. They need to inform the customers of that. I would not recommend them to a friend.

Every time I request warranty service, there is a fight over whether their item is covered. This includes AHS routinely accusing me (the homeowner) of causing the damage. Their customer service is never helpful to the customer. It is always very legal in nature and appears designed to prove that they aren't responsible versus designed to help the homeowner.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service as you have had several issue AHS and I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you in an effort to assist with unresolved claims.

I am submitting this review due to my displeasure for the service I have repeatedly received from this company. If you need anything big (A/C, Washer or Dryer) they take extremely long to get your appliance Fixed. Back in 2013 my A/C went out in Aug. I live in Texas. It was extremely hot and it took them 3 weeks to repair my A/C. I put in a service request on 10/23/19 for my washer to get repaired. It is now 12/3 and they are finally trying to fix it because it takes AHS FOREVER to send parts. Their communications is ridiculous. The only way you find anything out is if you continually call them and keep getting told different things by different "customer service reps". The parts department is a joke! They don't know what expedite means and refuse to try and help you get your parts in a timely manner.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

AHS sent out an email about having the furnace inspected. So, we asked to have our furnace inspected. AHS wanted us to use a contractor out of Iowa City. In the email that they had originally sent about getting the furnace inspected, it was for $100. The one from Iowa City wanted 125. So, we said why have somebody come 45 to 50 miles when we’ve got somebody 5 miles away. We then asked if we could have Affordable Heating, which we've used before in a previous home and we were pleased with, and AHS said no problem. When the technician came out here, he said replacing the parts was going to be hard to do because the furnace was older. When he went and dug in deeper, he said that we were leaking emissions, a slow leak. So, we got it replaced.

My claim for my washer with AHS went fine. It just wasn’t done right the first time. When it was done and I went to do laundry, the problem was worse than what it was before where my whole laundry room floor was flooded. I had to use about four very large towels to soak the water up. And so, I called American Home Shield, and they came back and had it done. The same person that repaired it came back again and had it done and fixed it and said that it was something that he should have done that he didn’t do. Then when he left, he didn’t set the knobs right for the settings. I had to call AHS back, and I told them to send me somebody else. And this guy came. He was very pleasant, very nice, knowledgeable, and he gave great customer service.
I also have a claim for my microwave. But I haven’t heard from anybody. Sometimes, my experience with AHS is just so frustrating. When I call, they’re not as pleasant on the phone sometimes. I had four outlet plugs in the kitchen area that were inoperative. One day I realized they weren't working, and it has been a couple of months ago that I decided to do something about it because it was an inconvenience. Even though I have my warranty, I didn’t know if they were covered. So, when I called and talked to a human, I found out that that was covered. I did this on a Wednesday and they got ahold of me that Friday. Then, I went on and got set up for the appointment for that Monday. MaeDae Electric was outstanding, and it worked out great. The guy knew exactly what it was. He saw one of those switches with the auto on/off switch or circuit breaker and it was that one that he took apart, fixed, rewired, and it fixed the other five. So, he was quite knowledgeable of what he was doing. I re-plugged everything as they normally was.
The way I found that out was that I have a wine cooler several months ago, and I was wondering why it was defrosting, which led me to one of the plugs. And then, the phone wasn't charging, which led me to another plug. So, I just re-plugged those up to ones that was working. So, that one plug took out those other three and the other ones in the kitchen worked, and he explained it. He worked on one of them and it fixed all four of them. I've been with American Home Shield for years, and I have recommended them to several of my neighbors at times. I’ve had the standard things like my disposal had gone out five times and I went right online and they came out and it was a done deal. So, AHS has been pretty straightforward for me.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for 30 years. We stopped for a while during Katrina, and then we signed back when we came back home. I go online to submit a claim, but lately, I've been having to speak with someone because there has been problems that I couldn’t solve by going online. It was a little more extensive that I have to explain stuff. And it normally takes a couple of days to send someone out. There were two different techs from Express Appliance that came out to fix our refrigerator. Both of them were very professional and very helpful. But the last guy who was a senior tech was able to pinpoint the problem after many tries. He got on the phone with GE, did a troubleshooting and he was able to find out what exactly was going on. The refrigerator is working perfectly now.
There’s one ongoing issue that I’ve been having. I was charged a service charge which I disagree with because the refrigerator problem was an ongoing problem. They give 30 days from the time when the old problem exist and then you have to call back. But the girl waived the fee because she said I've been a long-time customer and that this one was an ongoing problem. But even though she waived the fee, I kept getting emails up until yesterday. And then, Express Appliance sent me a bill because the $75 fee kept reoccurring. Someone dropped the ball because several times when I talked to people, the form was supposed to be sent in to correct the misconception that I owe $75. And that was the only problem I’ve ever had with AHS and I just want that cleared up. Normally, they all take care of everything.
AHS said again that they were gonna solve it and I didn’t need to worry about it. They said that the fee had been waived and that the appropriate forms had been sent in. They would deal with Express Appliances themselves and let them know that that bill wasn’t supposed to be sent to me, and that AHS would take care of it. That was the last word I got. And I have called five times about the same issue. When I call AHS, they normally get done what needs to be done. It's just frustrating because I've been having to go back and forth about the same issue with the refrigerator, and also the credits for the $75. But other than that, I have a good relationship with American Home Shield.

My house is getting older and I had American Home Shield when I first bought the home. My neighbor still kept it and they were pretty satisfied, so it was probably time I re-upped with AHS. So far it’s been easy and seamless, and I’m very satisfied. United Home Air came out to service my heater that wasn’t working. I liked that the guy was quick and efficient. I went online for this claim and using the website was quick and easy as well. Then I got an e-mail that popped up, pretty quickly. Everything's operating perfectly now.

We’ve had American Home Shield for 12 years and Myers has done most of our HVAC work. They’re good.

We had a gas furnace that went out and it was making a lot of clanging noise. Submitting the claim was a very good experience and someone from Mainline Plumbing came out the next day. The contractor performed very good work and was very nice. He had to come back out 2 days later with the part and install it. It was a big wheel, like a drum beside the heater, that was repaired. So, the experience went very well.

Everything has been perfectly performing since they have been out. I live in California for 15 years, and I have a home in Georgia. They have been on it since around 2007. I always submit a claim on the phone, and this claim was handled so quickly. I put the call in and went back to work. I was home for lunch, and then they called saying that the contractor A-1 Plumbing was in town and was on their way. The young man was polite, efficient and quick -- just the way a business should be taken care of. I was very impressed. We thought it might be more, but he went to work on it and fixed it perfectly. Since then, it hasn't leaked a drop.

Submitting the claim part was pretty easy. You just the call number and so on. Home Shield was good with the work order. They gave me the work order right away. We set the dates for the contractor to come out. However, I had to work on the original date that they were gonna send the contractor out. I just changed it to the next day and they were out promptly on the time that they were scheduled.
It was the garbage disposal that was out of commission. The contractor luckily had one on the truck and he had it installed, and within 5 to 10 minutes he was done. I was really impressed with their work. I was just surprised as to how much the initial cost was, which was $125. I had an issue one or two years ago. But did the price go up somehow? For some reason, I was thinking it was $75 that I had them out here at the time. But other than that, the coverage worked out according to the contract, the service was great and their response was perfect.

American Home Shield has been easy to work with and they have always taken care of what I needed to have done. I prefer submitting claims over the phone with an agent, and I have had only positive response with them. They do a very good job and it seems they are very knowledgeable of what they need to have done and how it needs to be done. I have had appliances and electrical problems that they have helped solve in the past.
With my plumbing issue, they are trying to take care of this as soon as possible. When the tech came back, he was having a problem with one of the toilets and he was trying to get a part. He couldn't find the part for us, and then he figured out that it cannot be repaired and it had to be replaced. So we're in the process now of ordering it in a certain color. My only thing with AHS is that it seemed like I could not get anyone at a certain timeframe. I thought it was a 24-hour service, but when something happens and I call at 9:00 at night, I have to wait until the next morning to do it. But, other than that, I do not have a problem.

We had a problem where half of our house didn't have electricity and the circuit breaker box was making a popping, sizzling sound. The only way to stop that is by physically turning off the electricity. When we opened up the box, one of the switches was about to come off. So, the hazard would've been in a short circuit which would've likely caused some damage, if not, a fire. We submitted a claim through the American Home Shield website, which was to R and R Electric, but it ended up being horrible service and we got no phone call back. It was also annoying because one of the ladies at American Home Shield shut the phone call on me. But once I got a better representative, things went really well. They set up a claim and said they have four hours to find me an alternate contractor. We then got CARE Facility and they got the job done.

For instance, we have a lake house where our daughter and granddaughters stay. Sometimes, especially during the winter, the water goes out and I like to be able to get somebody pretty quick for something like heat.
We also put in a claim when our dishwasher quit working. We got Suffolk Appliance and they did a fantastic job. The tech fixed it in five seconds and he replaced the seal on the dishwasher too. He was professional and quick. At first, he showed me a couple of things which was helpful because if it ever happens again, I can reset it. I might have an issue with that seal leaking, but I’ve been watching it and adjusting it. All in all, everything's running like a champ now.

When Alpha Appliances came out one time, they replaced the pump and said everything was working. Then my wife decided to do a load of laundry again and the machine didn't work. That was why I put another claim in and the contractor is gonna be coming out again. I wasn't home when he fixed it, so I didn't go through all the cycles. So hopefully, this next visit tomorrow, they'll get it all squared away. But the contractor who came the first time was pretty professional. My dad was here watching the house and had a little trouble getting the dogs in himself, but the contractor was kind enough to wait out front for about 10 extra minutes till we get that squared away.
I've had a couple of things on our air conditioner where AHS send somebody out. And then, a few years back, they came out a few times on our old refrigerator. It seems like every time I've had, not American Home Shield, but whoever came out for them, it took at least two or three visits before the issue got fixed. The air conditioner guy said it was all good and I paid $600 for Freon charge. Then it ran out of Freon again. He never really fixed the leak. The next company came out and said that was not it and he fixed it within five minutes. But I still had to pay another $500 for the Freon. Some of the techs that have come out have all been nice, but I have yet to get anything fixed the first go-around. And that was not Home Shield's fault necessarily. It was just luck of the draw with the technicians coming out.

I told them that was not the problem and they sent another plumber out and he went right there and fixed it. I asked AHS not to send Master Plumbing out to my home anymore because they sent someone out to fix my sink at the kitchen and he pulled my sink away from my countertop and said he didn’t do it, and I’m looking at him do it. I've done two calls and one online claim. The online thing is a little generic, but as long as it works, I'll keep using that because that gets me in the door faster. For the rekey claim, Mount's Lock & Key came out really fast to rekey the house we just bought. However, two of the other claims did not work so well. The first time that I had an electrical claim, there was no callback from AHS and then they ended up saying that the people they tried to get me hooked up with were really busy. They gave me a second outfit and those were fast and worked fine. Then, this last one was also an electrical claim and AHS gave me the same outfit that they tried to give me on the first electric, and they didn't call back. But when I called, American Home Shield got that first outfit to give me a call. They came out and did an okay job when they were here.
It's just a matter of getting linked up to people who will call back and then can get out here quickly. They're not very responsive, and I don't know if that's because they're just so busy, that they're so booked and they just can't respond. I also never get a message saying they can't get back to me, or there's no passing on. AHS hooks you up with them and then eventually if you push hard enough, they either call back or they switch people for you.

Then they said, "Oh no, we said $175." I said, "No, I'm not paying that because you told me $75 and that's what was left on my voicemail, and that's all I'm gonna pay."
They called me back and told me they were gonna call American Home Shield and say I don't pay my bills. That's not true. I paid them what they said it was. I have never used a furnace before. We tried turning it on by the thermostat but that did not work. We also knew that the pilot needed to be lit. I wasn’t sure how to do that either. So, we called for Anthem Mechanical to come out and the guy was awesome. He even cleaned it because it looked like it hadn’t been touched in years because we just moved in. He showed me everything - how it worked, how to light the pilot, then he went over to turn it on. And then he said, “Oh, your thermostat is broken.” That was the problem. So, he installed a new thermostat and showed me how it worked. He was amazing. My husband won’t allow me to turn it on because he said it wasn't not cold enough. We turned it on when he wasn’t home and it worked great.

It's easy to submit claims to AHS online. However, they do not have good appliance repair people in our area. They should vet those contractors better as we had one who was incompetent and it took forever for Home Shield to send out a second contractor to get a second opinion. It takes me forever to convince American Home Shield that the issue not fixed and they should send somebody else out. Also, I still have a pending order on my oven which has been open for months and they can't seem to find somebody who can fix it.
For another claim for a plumbing issue, AHS sent Drain Go which was the best service provider AHS has ever sent to my house. They were quick to schedule an appointment. They arrived on time and while they had to get parts, they fixed my issue by the next week. Everything went like it should have gone, which was not the experience I’ve had with the other contractors. With AHS, I can't pick my service provider and I'm at their mercy. Some of AHS' contractors are not worth anything.

We were offered replacements and we went with that. AHS does a wonderful job for me and I've had zero issues with every contractor that have been sent to my home.

I’ve used American Home Shield one time years back, and they never did any good for me. I got them this time on this house, and they worked out well. I had a claim with the dishwasher and it went smoothly. It was leaking water everywhere. I made a claim online on a Friday night and the contractor was here Saturday night. He found out that it was the door seals, fixed the dishwasher and cleaned it up. He ordered the part, and I didn’t hear anything out of the guy for a week. He forgot to call me back that when he ordered the part, it was the wrong part but he reordered them and it came in the next day. As soon as the part came in, he came right back out and did the job, so I was more than happy.

American Home Shield was able to get Plumbers Inc. out on time when we had a plumbing issue. The experience was wonderful. Scheduling was a bit difficult, but it was okay. I didn't meet up to what time he wanted to come, but they came right on time. They got the problem resolved, but it had to be multiple calls because they didn't have the parts right away. They had to order it so they had to come back in again. There were a few times that I had to make multiple appointments. I only had to speak to their reps over the phone a few times. The other time, I just put everything online, and that seems to be working out.

We filed a claim with American Home Shield for a washing machine. It stopped working. It was a circuit board that was needed. The biggest problem was it took them a little over three weeks to get the part. And so, for over three weeks, we had no washing machine and it was making expensive trips to the Laundromat. But beyond that, they did get the part and made the repair. The technician that came out was fairly knowledgeable. My wife was generally pleased with what he said and what he did.

The heat wasn't working, and some switch inside the handler that's in the garage kept popping every time we turn the heat on. The guy from Burleson came out and when he would leave and it would turn on, it would pop. He told us that if it keeps popping, just open up the box and unpop it. He never made sure it was working. He would get it to go on, but then as soon as we shut it off, then it wouldn't go on. And then it didn't quit popping. It wouldn't go on at all, and we had no heat! Those people are horrible. They were supposed to send Burleson back, but I told American Home Shield that they suck. I don't want those people back to my house. They've been here three times and beside the fact that they called me and told me that all their guys had the flu, and that they couldn't come anyway. So American Home Shield sent out Air Conditioning & Heating Wizards.
The first time the guy came out was the day before Thanksgiving Day, and he thought he had it fixed. But when he left that day, we turned it on, and I called him and said that the fan won't shut off. It just goes on and on. It blows heat and then cool air, heat and then cool air. So it never got to temperature. I texted him on a Friday, day after Thanksgiving, and he came back on Monday. He brought some parts, and he replaced some part. He worked and worked and worked on it, and it's been working now. Wizard was excellent. They were very nice, very thorough, and very polite. They showed up, called, and texted. The tech was prompt and did the job. He was very caring that the job was fixed.
We went 18 days with no heat or air working because the Burleson folks sent a half-assed guy. And the guy himself told me that he was not that experienced. And then he messed with something he wasn't supposed to even mess with. It was on the water heater, and he bust the pipes and water went all over the place. He had to fix that, and then I had to call them back because the parts that he fixed were leaking which wasn't even something he was supposed to be touching. He had to come back on that Saturday and redo that. The whole experience sucked, but it didn't have anything to do with American Home Shield. I love American Home Shield. They're good.

American Home Shield’s customer service was okay and the reps received my claim and tried to send somebody. The claims process was fast but the companies they sent were unprofessional. I had to pay $75 for each item, but they haven’t answered yet, so I’m frustrated. When the contractor for the refrigerator came the first time, they checked everything and they found the problem. The first company tried to fix it but they failed. The second company came but they gave up. The third company came and they said that they would be back but they never came back and never did a follow up. I have had a very bad experience with this.
I asked the insurance around the end of October and I’m already waiting for about one and half months. I’m still waiting for their follow-up. I’m furious and I’m not through with that. I also had a claim for my shower nozzle, shower plumbing and temperature controllers. The guy came and found the problem but didn't come back. But the guy for the pool service was nice and looked very professional. This was good for me and I was satisfied with the service.

The rep that AHS sent out was wonderful and very professional. He was very knowledgeable of what he was doing and explained everything to me. He said he found a blockage about 60 feet but he ran the hose out to 100 feet. He went beyond and was really prompt, too. I had a 2:00 to 6:00 appointment and when he got here, it was dark. And he stayed here until he opened my drain line up. He understood my situation and told me what to do.
He also told me that if I have my little girlfriends that come over, I should make sure that they don't drop objects in the toilet, and that if the grandkids come, I should make sure that objects don’t go in the toilet because the toilet paper will collect around the objects and that could clog my drain. He said even though I don't use my basement that much, ever so often, I should go down there and flush the toilet just to keep the line on. Even though it was raw sewage, he opened my line up and he really made me feel good.
Aside from that, when I called AHS about that claim, the reps I talked to were doing the best that they could do. But because it was a claim for raw sewage in my basement, I called them the 3rd, which was a Monday, and nobody got out here until that Wednesday. So I felt like I was a little neglected and abandoned on that part. But nobody could get out here sooner because of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, so I understood all of that. In the meantime, I was not able to use my toilet or running water. Plus, my whole house smelled like a toilet. I kept my grandbabies away and I couldn't put my dog down in the basement. It was very inconvenient, very unhelpful, and very unbeneficial to the human body.
Also, sometimes, if you don't let AHS know the urgency of your situation, depending on who you talk to, they just think it's another call. For my plumbing claim, American Home Shield didn't put it on as an emergency and that's my only beef with them. When you call somebody and tell them you got raw sewage in your basement backed up, you shouldn’t have to say that it is an emergency and I shouldn't have to wait 72 more hours for something that I called in. And if they would've pursued it a lot sooner, I could have had use of my bathtub earlier than Wednesday. Other than that, everything is fixed now. I applaud AHS and I really appreciate them because the deductible is only $100. When I called a plumber, it'd been $75 for them to come out here and another $75 for every hour they do. But it would have been $600. I will also continue to use AHS. They take my money out every month and they have been great.

The people that we bought our house from back in 2012 had American Home Shield and it was part of the closing. We got them for a year and then I let it lapse, and then I started thinking about it. It was great for the money to have somebody that would come out, so I re-instituted three years after that. Using the website is easier than picking the phone up and dialing. You can do everything right there on the website. I recommend them to anybody, and when we move, we’ll have them again.
Recently Sears came out and looked at the overhead microwave at our cook stove. The switch was no good and needed to be replaced, but they couldn’t provide the parts. So, they replaced the entire unit and we were very pleased. The tech has been here before, and two of the guys that work for Sears live almost in the neighborhood here. I'm a backyard mechanic, but I’ve got a background in electronics and shipbuilding. Talking about what was going on with these guys, I was impressed. They really knew what they were doing. It took 10 days to get the new microwave, but of those 10 days, four of it was them trying to get the parts from the warehouse, which didn’t have the correct parts.

They had a technician out here very promptly. The technician knew what the problem was, but we had to wait for parts. That wasn’t his fault though. The factory just didn’t keep those parts in stock. Other than that, I was completely satisfied with the competence of servicing the unit and getting it back on track. I just wish that there was a broader use of people going into the future. I could see it being a problem that it’s limited to as few people as it is as far as the repair people that they have under contract.

Our built-in microwave was not the perfect size for the insert into the wall. There were about an inch and a half gap on the left and right sides and about an inch on the top and bottom. When we first ordered it, the lady that I talked to had included the frame that would go with it. It came up a week later and we got it. The guy from Service Center took it out of the box, set it on the counter and then he was gone. But my husband fixed everything. So everything is fine. It was on a Friday late afternoon and I thought the guy just wanted to get it over with and get out of here. Then his supervisor called and was asking about it. The supervisor mentioned that the guy might have a language problem and he just wanted to get out of here because he couldn't understand anything.
American Home Shield is a lifesaver and everything’s gone so well. They are excellent and I appreciate what they do. They also have some excellent technicians. The person that fixed our refrigerator and dryer, James, was really good. Also, the man who came out for oven and the stovetop range worked hard to fix it. This was older stuff and he didn’t have a book to go on, and that man sat there and worked with it until he got the oven temperature perfect. Then the man that fixed the air conditioning and heating was very courteous. We’re old and a lot of stuff they say that we may not understand, but they take the time to explain it and tell us what’s going on.

The customer service representatives who work for American Home Shield are horrible. The first interaction I had with them was when I first moved in here and I had no heat. I called and I explicitly told the customer service agent that I had no heat, and that I wanted to put in a repair call to fix my heating system. So, she sent somebody out. And I had to pay $75 each time they sent a technician from whatever specialty it is.
The man came out and he started taking the screws and he said, “Okay. Well, we’re gonna do this.” I said, “No. I’m not having it serviced. I put in a call for repair because I have no heat.” And he said, “No, no, no. I got it as a service call. And you have to call them again and send somebody out to repair, to actually fix it.” So, the man just left. He was sent out to service my unit and not fix it. I had to call American Home Shield again, speak to a customer service agent, and put in a request again to repair and pay another $75. They sent the man out and he found out that my gas company, the one that provides gas, never took the lock off my gas meter outside. So, the technician AHS sent out didn't do anything. He just said, “You got a lock. You gotta call your gas company.”
Then I was getting water under the cabinet under my sink. I called American Home Shield and said, “I have water under my sink. I don’t know why.” So, they sent Grade A Plumbing out, and they told me I needed a new faucet. The seller redid my kitchen. It’s a brand-new faucet. I don’t know whether he was being truthful or not or he could’ve used a washer to stop the leak so that it’s leaking from the faucet. So, I just paid $140 for a new faucet not knowing if in fact it needed a new faucet. AHS said it wasn’t covered, but I haven't fully looked at my contract.
Another thing with Grade A Plumbing was the tech said I have a lifetime warranty on the faucet. He wrote down a model number which is incorrect. I went in the website to register it. It’s incorrect. So, I’m not happy because I didn't have time to vet this company. American Home Shield just sent them out. I don’t like them because you don’t have a choice of A, B, or C. They just send somebody out. And luckily, a sink is not an emergency. But the plumber mixed the hot water lines, so I look like I’m trying to get cold water, it comes hot, and vice versa. So, I’m not happy all-around.
I also have billing problems with American Home Shield. The debit card that I have listed in my account section of my profile is true and correct. For my old address, I’ve still not fully changed my address for my personal license. So, it’s like bill to/ship to is different when you order online sometimes, or your billing address may be different than your shipping address. Luckily, I do not pay for American Home Shield. I’ve tried. I’ve done it online. I’ve corrected and I’ve said, “Use this address, blah blah blah.” They keep sending me bills. I was gonna call and I was gonna talk to somebody again, but they don’t listen. I don’t know what kind of people they have working for them. Next year, I’m not gonna renew.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

So far, they have ordered $1,000 in parts for my unit but then AHS won't replace it. I've heard other people say that AHS is not gonna replace their equipment. They just keep putting parts in until their client finally has to buy one themselves. I've had AHS for a few months now and I'm not impressed. My first service call was for a routine furnace tune up but while the technician was there he notified me that some element needed to be replaced but would cost me another service fee. I was ok with that additional service fee however, after the technician left after replacing the element my perfectly good running furnace no longer worked and it happened to be the coldest night of the season (20 degrees). AHS didn't believe it was necessary to do a recall for the very same night but rather the next day (B.S).
My next service call was for a sewage backup 3 weeks ago, and since then they have sent two different companies and after 3 visits to my home, still no resolution. My basement is now filled with human feces. We won't even discuss my dishwasher issue... I am now convinced that AHS contracts with the bottom of the barrel companies who are completely incompetent!

American Home Shield was a recommendation that somebody gave me. I've been with them for a year and a half. Their customer service is good and anytime I've had to call, the explanation of benefits covered and stuff like that have been fine. But it would be better if when submitting a claim, they would make it easier to give the option of choosing your own vendor first versus assigning you one. This is through the website. I think that can be done but I don't really know what that process is, so maybe there could be more of that explanation or when you're submitting a claim you could be asked a question like, "Do you have a vendor in mind or do you want us to assign one?" It's been fine so far, but there have been times where I'm like, "What if I wanna go with somebody that I've used before or that has been recommended?”
I had a claim with American Home Shield and they assigned RK Plumbing and Heating to me. They were good. This was the second time that they came out to my house for different things. I submitted my claim on Saturday and they called me Monday. Unfortunately, they weren't able to get to me until then but it was fine because it wasn't that urgent of an issue. I'm sure they had more urgent issues to attend to. The guy who came in fixed the plumbing issue right away. I thought he was just gonna assess it and put his recommendations back. But he said it was broken and he would give me a new one right then. He did the installation in less than an hour. It was good.
