American Home Shield is a home warranty provider that offers service plans throughout the contiguous United States. It offers three home warranty plan options, priced from $29.99 to $89.99 per month, with either a $100 or $125 service fee. In addition to normal wear and tear, plans cover breakdowns from rust, insufficient maintenance and faulty repairs, which are often excluded from home warranty coverage.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for 20 years and though they're a little expensive, I like them. They need to quit lying as far as coming out the same day, but it’s gotten better. Before, I had to wait a couple days, but now they’ll call you the next day and tell you they’ll get you in. Recently the garage door was acting up so Reliable Garage Doors came out and did a few adjustments, and they reset the code for my garage door opener. Did a great job and they were very decent people. They did what they had to do and got out on the dot. Everything’s working now. I started online, but American Home Shield needs a description box so you can decide what you wanna put in there. They had the basic stuff, but I wanted to say more than I had to, but I couldn’t.

I filed a claim to AHS online and I talked to Pipe Down Services, and they scheduled for us. Apparently, our plumbing issue was not covered by AHS, but the gentleman who came out was quick to point that out. I was appreciative of that because I wanted to have a good plumber doing the work and AHS work with good plumbers. And so, they applied the fee I paid for them to come out towards the work and they got the work done for me. The gentleman was great. He came when he said he would and got it done expediently. Everything went great. The contractor came out and took care of me, and we were good to go.

Within 48 hours of me submitting the claim, someone was sent out to my home. I had a garage door problem. It fell apart and wasn’t operative. It took the tech about an hour and a half to fix it. American Home Shield delivered as promised.

I had a toilet that was not working and I went online to submit a claim to American Home Shield. I ended up getting a call the day after from Tim at Eagle. His contact with me was within 48 hours. He was very good and he was very honest about what he could do as well as what he couldn’t. Everything has gone well with Eagle. This was my first claim and there was another one on an electrical problem I had. Since the repairs, everything has been great. But sometimes, when I was on the phone with AHS, somebody had to get back to me or they had to check with a manager. They seemed like they weren’t educated on how things worked but everything worked out okay.

Back in the day, my late husband and I built houses in Kansas, and we always provided American Home Shield with our new homes for a year. So, for myself, this is my second year. In submitting my claim, I went online and I told them what the issue was. They emailed me back the name of the contractor. The guy showed up when he said he was going to. It took him 30 seconds to fix the microwave -- it took him longer to write out his ticket than it did to fix it. In the past, when we were builders, there were only one or two claims, and we had no problems with the representatives that came out. They fixed whatever issue that there was to be fixed. It was a positive interaction all along, so I like American Home Shield.

The follow-ups at American Home Shield are the best part and I like it. The response was great when I told the lady about the expiration day, she told me not to worry and that she would expedite. We didn’t have water the whole day but she called me every 30 minutes and let me know how far the technician was and what time the technician would be home. I really appreciate that.
I talked to two of my brothers and they are ready to go with AHS too because of the service. But I am confused about one thing. The first time, the contractor did the plumbing and when the tech came, he opened the whole wall. He took the piece out and put the new piece. When he was finished with it, I asked him how we were gonna fix the wall and he told me that I need to call back AHS.
I called the next day and the lady put me on hold for almost 35 minutes on the phone. She transferred me and then, I was transferred again. Every time she would put me on hold, she would tell me to give her two minutes and that she would call and give the right answer. But nobody called me back and I still don’t know how we can solve that thing. Either AHS is covering or not. If not, then the guy can let me now and I can find a different way to cover that wall because it’s open now and I have a small kid in my home as well as two cats. Still, I’m very satisfied with the service. The technician was perfect and the company that AHS was working with did a very good job. I’m happy with that.

We had a plumbing issue and there was some water damage, so there was some carpentry and drywall work involved in that. There is a fellow who has been here for a couple of days finishing up today. But the water heater has been wonderful, and the guys at Plumbers Inc. were wonderful. Rene from Plumbers Inc. was great. Submitting the claim was the easiest thing in the world. I’m very impressed with how simple it seems to be. I appreciate all of American Home Shield's help. I found it all to be very, very easy. I’m still confused about the financial part of it, but it’s gonna all shake out. I’m getting checks and bills, and eventually, it’s all gonna come balanced.

American Home Shield's contractor is not finished yet. They’re still gonna come, supposedly today. I'm very upset about the washer. At first, it was not working, then it'd take two to three cycles before it gets dry. I called the contractor and they said they needed to order a motor. They came after a couple of weeks, which was too long for me. They replaced it, but it still would not work. I called on October 14 and the lady said she needed to check and she'll get back to me. But she never called back. I called a couple of days ago and the man told me, unfortunately, it is past 30 days and that I never replied when I was called to check if the person has come to fix it. I said, “Nobody called me. I was waiting for the call.”
But that’s okay. I know the policy. I’m gonna wait and when I have money, I’m gonna put another request for the dryer because it’s now past 30 days. But I have not done that yet. But it should not have gotten to this point had they done what they were supposed to do, to tell me they’re coming in. They need to do a follow-up and they really need to call both numbers that I have and leave a message because I have a voice mail and I can check if there is a message. And if I did not respond in 24 hours, then they can text. I've been with American Home Shield for 17 years. That was why I don’t want to move. My brother was telling me about another one and that they’re doing better than American Home Shield does. Last year, I paid $66. Now, I’m paying $120 and they pay below $100. I told them after this year, I might move.
The people of American Home Shield are the worst. Some of them are nice. Some of them, you don’t understand whether they speak in English or whatever. And when you try to tell them to slow down, they get offended. I do have an accent but I know you can understand me clearly. They need to slow down when they talk to us because if they talk too fast, sometimes we don’t understand or don’t hear them well. And they would yell, “Ma’am, I just said this. This is what I'm trying to say.” Sometimes, I tell them, “You don’t have to scream. You don’t have to yell. Speak slowly.” But the contractors that they've sent out were wonderful. I have no problems with them.

I was getting my heat maintenance for the year and the company that came in said it looked like the exchanger was cracked. I placed a call to American Home Shield and the claim process was pretty easy. It was automated. You just have to know what the issue is. Someone then came on because I had a question about the policy. She assigned me to Comfort First Heating and Cooling and she gave me the information. She emailed that to me as well. Someone came out the next day to examine the issue. They confirmed that the exchanger was cracked and they said they would make a request for the part to be ordered. It was ordered and it probably took about a week. The technician came back the next day after they got the part in and replaced it.
When we first got American Home Shield, it used to be that once a person came and did the repair then you pay the service fee. But over the last year or two when I request a service, I call and American Home Shield automatically takes the service fee. I think the service fee should be handled when the service is done and not when you placed the order. Over the summer, we had an issue with the air and it took maybe three to four weeks, but the service fee was already taken out prior to the service being done.

The most recent claim I had was when Anthem Mechanical came out for my heating system. The person was very thorough, checked out everything, and made some recommendations. She was very professional, unlike a lot of them that try to sell me their whole enchilada. I had some problems before with American Home Shield but it was resolved. I had my air conditioning checked long ago and the guy was like a shyster. He was very skittish about servicing my unit because a rat came out and he jumped and said that he was afraid. So then, he refused to service it until I swept everything out. When they finally did, they didn't even fix the problem. I had another one come in later and he fixed the problem. But then by that time, I had lost Freon, so it cost me $600 to buy new Freon because the guy didn't fix the unit the first time.
Then I had a fan that needed a replacement and it took three to four weeks to get it replaced because AHS couldn't find a fan that was comparable to the one I had. They were trying to pass off the replacement with a cheap one but I told them that it wouldn't do. That was another $600 for a fan that I got. So my experience with these warranty things is, "Read the fine print." It's very deceiving. Also, I don't know if I'm still covered. I think my contract was up in November and I never got a call from AHS or anything. They didn't follow up on that.

The water heater had a leak in it. I turned the water line off and then when I turned it back on, the leak sprang. It was really rusted, and with me turning it off it was like something settled. Luckily, I was out there when the leak sprang and that there was no actual water damage. I did a claim with American Home Shield for it online. The technician from Hardy Plumbing was great. He showed up, but unfortunately I wasn’t there when he showed up. But he was able to give me a call and I showed up in 10 minutes, and he waited. As soon as I showed up, he got to work. He was very friendly, very polite, and he did the job very quickly and explained everything he was doing as he was doing it. Everything’s great.

Submitting a claim for my dryer online to AHS was extremely easy. Wright Appliance Service was sent out to fix my issue. Thus far, we've been happy with the contractors we've had out. Early in the year, we had a problem with our water heater and the plumbing company they sent has been out to my place before. I like how AHS gives me the option to pick between different companies so when I know somebody does well, I can choose them.

I renewed my coverage with AHS for the year 'cause this is a manufactured home. I have replaced a lot including the washer, the refrigerator, and the original stove. But there are other things that could go wrong and I have to watch out for that myself. I decided to err on the side of caution. My heater is relatively new, but you just never know.
We just moved in this house a year ago, December, and promptly went into the hospital for 23 days. I started feeling fairly good this summer, and I was vacuuming out my heater ducts, the ductwork on the floor when I noticed that one ductwork was rusted through to the installation underneath the house and that was not good. So I've contacted American Home Shield. They brought in Redwood Mechanical who went through all the ductwork. The technician said he could fix it and could put a piece of metal in there and float something on it like a resin. He said it wouldn't be any problem and American Home Shield would probably approve of it quickly. I was about ready to go into the hospital again, and he had assessed us two weeks before. My husband have had three strokes and he cannot communicate too. The technician made time to fix my heater before I went into the hospital.
He did explain to me that American Home Shield does set limits on what they were willing to pay for. I watched him check all of the vents, and I have checked all of the vents myself before I called. I didn't know he had the capability of fixing it like that. I thought he would have to go under and tear all the installation out and go in from that direction, which American Home Shield would not have put in the installation back. So it was kind of a win-win for all of us. I love Redwood Mechanical. I thought the whole situation was going to be much bigger than it actually was and that American Home Shield wouldn't necessarily approve it. But he came in and he assessed it.
I've called AHS three times this year. The last time, the one in the middle, I woke up at 2 o'clock in the morning to this god-awful sound that I could not identify. I checked the water meter and that dial was having a problem. I figured it had to do something with the water. I turned it off and called American Home Shield, 4 o'clock in the morning, and explained the situation. Then they sent somebody out the next day. I think my bathroom's got the original toilet and somehow, the overflow tube popped off. It was then spraying water underneath the lid of the tank. The guy came and he fixed it before I ever came back in the house after turning the water on. So that was pretty easy.
For the dryer, it took over two hours to get something dried. It started smelling really bad and I didn't know what was going on. They sent a guy out and he went outside and checked my vent. Apparently, the screen that is for the vent to keep the critters out, I saw it on the ground but I didn't pay any attention to it because I was busy moving in. When the managers of the park were back there trying to find a gas leak at somebody else's place, they must have put it back in backwards and the vent wasn't opening. Technically, I had a clogged dryer vent, but I didn't have a clogged dryer vent. All I had to do is take that little screen out and reverse it and put it back in. So American Home Shield kinda scolded me on that one. I kept telling them I didn't know that that was the problem. All the contractor had to do was reposition that screen. Everything has been good to go since.

We've been with AHS for about 11 years and we've found that for the small service that we pay to have somebody come out, having their warranty is worth it. I submitted a request for general service on my heating unit and May Heating & Air came out to do service. The tech found that it had a gas leak so he repaired that. He was very informative, let me know what he was gonna do and fixed the problem.
Recently, I also had my washing machine serviced under American Home Shield. I had two different providers that they contracted out to do with that because the first one failed to follow through. After contacting Home Shield and letting them know that I couldn't get hold of the first company, the rep said that's not acceptable and that they would deal with it right then. He got me another contractor who came out and serviced my washing machine. Everything I've had to do so far with AHS so far has been fine.

About four months ago, I called them and told them that I had problems with my oven and that I had problems with my dryer at the same time. I told them what to do, but they left the dryer off. I had to call them back because the contractor said that they can't just do it and that AHS has to put an order in. I gave AHS my charge card and they charged it to the account that I have on file. When they did it over, they charged it to my regular account and drafted the money out. My stuff was bouncing all over the place.
Then I called them and told them about the burner on top of my stove. The man wrote it up as a stovetop and the lady said I gotta call AHS back and get the right invoice to come out. I shouldn't have to do everybody's job. I've been with AHS for a long time and the people they have are incapable of doing anything right. It looked like they had a lot of lazy people. I've never had this kind of problem until this year. I am so sick and tired, as well as very dissatisfied, with them.

I requested the full tune-up of my furnace ‘cause I think American Home Shield was promoting it in their newsletter. I did it all through a link in my email, and it brought me to the website to do it online, and then the subcontractor reached out to me. It was really quick. I think I was scheduled within a week. The process was really easy. So far, I haven’t had any issues with American Home Shield.

When my garbage disposal broke down, I submitted a claim online through my Home Shield account. It was very quick and easy. The website was straightforward and efficient. I also had a couple of my bathroom faucets and a kitchen faucet break down. As soon as I submitted the claim, I immediately got a message as to when I would hear back from the contractor. The guy was very experienced and knew what to do. He told me what was wrong and how he was gonna fix it and he did. He had everything done in less than one hour. We're very satisfied. It's worth to have the home warranty. My deductible is $100, which is really cheap compared to the problems that might arise at home. I would recommend AHS.

The keypad in the stove was worn out, and if you pushed the start button, it wouldn’t get started. A guy came out and he was professional. He told me what he had to do, and he had to order parts ‘cause he didn’t have it on hand. After that, he kept me updated on what time he’d be here and told me about everything he did. He replaced the little panel piece, and it works fine now. Also, the guy that came out and checked my AC did a good job on that. So far, I’m pleased with the people that have come out.

The claims process is as easy as it could be although, for some reason, I can’t do it online. They’ve got my address all wanky. But when I call, they call me back in less than 24 hours and give me the contractor's name. They see it's always the same company. Then, the contractor would call me and make an appointment. The contractors work like they're supposed to do. The one that came out for my most recent claim is probably the best interaction I've had. The second they got the part for my AC, they called me and said they got it. Then, I met them at home and they got right to work. Sometimes, getting a part takes a long time but you can’t argue with stuff like that when it’s specialized parts. Also, it’s a fair cost for the warranty I’ve got. Home Shield has done fine.

Thank you for the service that you provide, American Home Shield. I've been with them since 2007. They gave me a washer and then every time I call, they repair everything. Most recently, I had an appliance issue and at the beginning, it was hard because they had to call the service three times. Sears was the company that they sent and the claim was open for over a month. I had to call them again and again. First, they fixed the unit like everything was good. Then the technician said something about a ball and he went and fixed that. Then the unit was making ice again at the bottom. He said it was something in the back. The air was blocked. But finally, it's working, hopefully. The contractor just didn't fix it the first time but they were good. My interaction with American Home Shield was great as well. Every time I called, I didn't have a problem with them.

American Home Shield, as far as contacting new folks, is always efficient. But the contractors didn’t get back with me in 24 hours. Sometimes they were of the last hour. They were slacking. Every time I have an issue, it has never been the same contractor too. Also, We live in Newcastle, a suburb of Oklahoma City, and we know our own folks. Prior to getting American Home Shield, I always use HMS and they are right here, Johnny-on-the-spot. I’d rather use a local contractor as opposed to some person I don’t even know that has to drive across Oklahoma City or whatever to get to me. Nevertheless, I've been with AHS for a bunch of years and they have replaced everything they say they will. We’ve had issues with our heat and air and they replaced the hot water heater, and then with an oven. Overall, our experience was fine.

AHS has been very professional and expeditious. They didn't waste any time contacting the contractor to get out to me, which was good. Also, their website was very easy to understand. When my washing machine was damaged, the contractor had to come out twice because there was a contingent problem that arose. But they came out and took care of that after they ordered the part.

I read the reviews on the first contractor that American Home Shield assigned me and they were terrible. Then, I called and got another one, which was Medallion Plumbing, and they were excellent. The tech came in and identified the problem right away. There was something leaking between the floor and the toilet. He took the toilet off, put a seal on and put it back, and was on his way. He fixed it within 30 minutes. He even showed up early.

The time it took for American Home Shield to send someone with this latest claim was fairly quick. I heard from the contractor right away and although we had some scheduling conflicts, that was because of my schedule and they were very understanding. They worked with my schedule. They were also professional and very prompt. This latest claim was for a bathroom heater. It wouldn’t heat but it’s perfect now. It's working. We also had a plumbing issue earlier and the flooding was a little not what I expected but I talked to several people at American Home Shield and it all worked out at the end. So that was good. I've had American Home Shield for four years and I hardly ever used them until this year. We’ve been hit everything at once but so far, everything is going well. I go online to submit the claim and the website is user-friendly.

I am so surprised to see that this company gets a high score, something is fishy here. This company uses the contractors who are not up to their professional standards and charge outrageously. I don’t know what is the criteria AHS uses to choose the contractors, but it is not from the quality and trustworthy standpoint for sure. You will end up pay more out of your pocket. And AHS also charges a fee to terminate a contract with them.

I do not have much experience with other home warranty companies, but based on my interaction with AHS, I can't imagine others being worse. I had to go through an automated system to get a claim in and when I finally did the company they set me up with said they don't do same or next day service and I would have to wait 5 days until they could come fix my water heater. I called AHS back and had to wait on hold for over 90 minutes. Finally when someone answered they said they can not cancel my request to make a new expedited one because the original ticket was still open and not on a rush. Of course rush was not an option using the automated system. I ended up calling someone on my own who came out and fixed it, but AHS was just terrible. I cancelled my contract with them. Still waiting on a refund.

On 2 occasions I have tried to use my coverage to get a plumber for an issue which IS covered, but the company cannot find a vendor. The first time I had an active leak that was soaking my wall, and I had to wait over 4 days, make numerous calls, and waste valuable time to finally be told to find my own plumber and follow all their rules for reimbursement.
Currently, I have been waiting 4 days for them to find a plumber for a different issue. I have called 4 times, and I am continually told to wait 4 more hours because they are currently looking for a vendor. When I tried to request outside authorization, I was again told to wait for a callback. I asked to speak to a manager, was put on hold for several minutes, and the same agent came back on the line and continued to tell me they were looking and I should wait. I am beyond disappointed with the choice to go with this company. Trying to use my coverage is extremely frustrating and time-consuming.

Have had for 1 year, called to get fridge fixed, they repaired ice maker with cheap replacement. Did not address the noise of the compressor going out. They don't fix noises, even if that is a precursor noise that the repairman stated. You have to wait till it goes out, waste your food then they will fix. Customer service is horrible once they get you to pay. Did the recommended heater seasonal check up, guy did not do anything, complete waste of money.

I have used my home warranty a couple of times, and the contractors they match me to are decent. However, dealing with customer service is an absolute nightmare. I have received the SAME email 4 different times now, saying that I am "delinquent" in a payment that I do not owe. They are trying to charge me two service fees for a single service (the confusion probably results from the fact that I had to reschedule my appointment 4 different times because of other errors made by AHS). I have called customer service 3 times now, and am going to have to call again today, to deal with this same issue.
The script the customer service employees are forced to follow is unbelievably frustrating and has so far been unhelpful. Last time I asked to speak to someone higher up and they refused to let me, even when I said I would hold until someone was available. I was repeatedly fed the exact same line as the employee (rather condescendingly) tried to placate me. We were hoping that our home warranty would protect us and lend us some security and peace of mind. It has done the exact opposite! We will definitely NOT be renewing with AHS. It is not worth the frustration.

Anytime I've needed American Home Shield, it’s been right on. It’s very good. I'm a face-to-face talk in-person. I do my claims over the phone. If the reps know what you’re talking about, they’re fine. The contractors have been good. Our spa had a leak in one line. They sent Aqua Brite Pool & Spa Repair out, and the contractor fixed it in a couple of minutes. AHS could have a lower price but other than that, anytime I've called, people have come right away and they always fixed what was wrong. I'm very pleased with AHS.

A technician from Heritage Air & Heat LLC came in and they replaced one of the pieces on the heater that wasn’t working. He was great and he repaired it in 15 minutes. We wish we could say the same for Sirius Heating & Air ‘cause every time they’ve come out, they’ve screwed up. We had a leak out in the garage due to one of our hot water heaters, and they wanted to charge us $2,000 that American Home Shield would not pay for to pull the hot water heaters out and find out where the leak was. I was so pissed ‘cause I paid them $75 to come out just for me to tell them to get lost. I told them to scram and I had my handyman come out, and he fixed it in 10 minutes and it cost me 50 bucks.

I went on the Home Shield website and selected a contractor, and they called and set up the appointment. If there was some way to schedule on the website, instead of having to contact the contractors directly and pass that out over the phone, that would be a lot easier. It’s also not fully clear that they’re supposed to call you or you’re supposed to call them to schedule an appointment. That part was a little confusing on the website. We had what seemed to be a leak inside of the wall, but it ended being something completely unrelated to the plumbing. They ruled out some stuff. I also had an AC contractor come out to check that, since that was the other potential source, but they mostly just ruled things out. And then it ended up being something that was not covered by American Home Shield. But the contractors were all respectful and professional.

When I first called American Home Shield about my water heater, their contractor came and said everything was okay. But within a few days, I saw that there was a little bit of water. And since I have paid American Home Shield the $125, I have to go with them again. So, I called them and then I was told I need to replace the whole water heater. I didn't have a choice because I’ve paid $125, and I don't want to go outside and pay from my pocket then wait for American Home Shield to pay me. And I don't know how much they are going to pay me back.
I did not want to go with the contractor and I asked American Home Shield how much will they pay me if I were to go outside, like Home Depot, and buy something nice. But they did not give me a proper answer. I ended up paying them $100 for the new water heater, which I don't even know the brand. I called them and asked what the brand is and they don't know. They just said it’s a good water heater and the warranty is for a long time. Then I was charged 250 for this, 250 for that, and the contractor said we need to come up with code. So, I ended up spending $1100 for the whole thing.
Right after the contractor left, I heard a sound. But when I checked, it was not coming from the water heater side. It was coming from the HVAC side. I called American Home Shield again, and since it was not the water heater, I had to pay a new 125. I explained to the guy who came out that the water heater was just replaced. He checked and said that it was a minor thing and I didn't need to do a lot of work. So I didn't have to pay anything except the 125 charge. He then fixed it and left.
American Home Shield needs to come up with a range of how much they should charge their customers, like for a pipe connection, or whatever it is. They need a standard. A water heater does not cost much, but they charge for people coming in and fixing things. And the other day, they called me and said I have to pay $1100 from my pocket. I don't understand why I even have this warranty.

I’m not used to pressure tanks under a kitchen sink, and I have a pressure tank under there. So, I wasn’t 100% certain on it’s function. It was losing pressure in the faucet in the kitchen sink. Doug from CNJ Services got there and I mentioned the problem, and he said the screens were clogged. I’m from Chicago and we had city water, so I’m not used to all the minerals in the water out here, in the great state of Arizona. I thought I was gonna blow something up if I got in there and play with it by myself. But it turned out it was a simple fix. It was kind of embarrassing. It was crazy, $100 deductible to clean up the little screens. That was marvelous.
I’ve been in the house for two years. On my first year, it was a different warranty company then I switched to Home Shield. I looked at reviews and did some research on some of the different companies out there and AHS’ rates were better. The deductible is a little bit higher than my old one, but the monthly fee or the yearly fee is a little bit less. So, it pretty much works itself out. I had a bit of an issue the last time I filed a claim. It was for my washing machine. The actual repair service did not pick up my call and that was a little bit frustrating. After several weeks, I called AHS and they gave me a different contractor who came out right away and it went fine.

I had MS Services come out and check the heater because I thought I smelled gas, and they disconnected it. The furnace hasn’t been on for almost a year. When the guy said it was something plugged up. So, he repaired it in about five minutes or so. The contractor was very efficient and they worked with my schedule, so I was pleased with them. Since the repair, the furnace has been working fine.

A buddy of mine told me he used AHS and said they had good luck, so I just used them. McGee Services came out for my recent claim and they were pretty good. It was just the scheduling that wasn't that great. The tech said that his wife ended up needing some sort of surgery, so he was out-of-pocket for a bit. It sounded like he said he turned the app off or something for a minute. I waited for two weeks. But once I got him here, the work was fine. I’ve had great luck with AHS.

Home Guard Heating and Air Conditioning, AHS' contractor, came to do preventive maintenance at my home when I took advantage of a deal that AHS had going on. Their tech Alex was an excellent person. He was very prompt, knew what he did and was done in no time. Having AHS' warranty has been helpful. We go directly to them and they provide service providers to us. They save us a lot of time and I don't have to shell out a lot of money as well.

I call them on the phone when I request for a service and the reps are very good. The technicians have done a nice job too. It went okay with my HTG claim. My furnace is working now. I saw several people, but the one who actually did the work was fine and I was very satisfied with the timeframe.

My friend recommended American Home Shield to me. She uses their services. When putting a claim in, you just go online and then you say that you have a new issue and you pick what the issue is, and then I hear back very quickly from the company. It was very easy and the representatives have been professional. When I had a claim regarding an electric issue, I had an electrician come out and determine that there was nothing wrong with the box, and then I had mentioned that it seemed a little odd that my ejector pump wasn’t working. So, he went there and he determined that that was the issue. He put in another order to continue the ticket and then, I had a plumber come out and replace the motor. It was all in a pretty timely manner, friendly and satisfactory. Everything has worked out really well with that.

I do claims online because when you call American Home Shield, you're on hold terminally. And they tell you during their message to go online and submit the claim, which I’ve done both. Also, I bought a new refrigerator this year because they had mine worked on four or five times. The guys that were working on it said, “We’re just gonna keep fixing this, but it’s time.” American Home Shield didn't wanna replace it, so I ended up replacing it myself. That was a little frustrating ‘cause that’s a big expense. Overall though, they’ve been great. Custom Climate is amazing and we really like them. They’ve been out here several times and they're very responsive. If you don't have heat, they're usually right on it.

I put the service request in on Sunday night, and Master Fix was scheduled to come out on Tuesday. They showed up on time and they were very quick in solving the issue. I appreciated that the technician was willing to answer questions and was helpful for me to understand what was going on. He fixed it within the same day. We’ve also had contractors come out for other appliances. For the stove, they had to come three times. One of the times was because they ordered a part. The second time was because they had ordered a part and they had to come back. This third time was because it wasn’t fixed right the first time, so they came out and then it was fixed. For the dishwasher, the contractor came out twice and that was because of a part. And then, for the fridge, they came out once.
I was a little unhappy when we had a pool issue. The first guy that came out was really awful and was deceptive, so we got a second opinion. The second guy was much better, but unfortunately, it didn’t cover the issue which was for the pool heater. I was not happy about that. The coverage of our warranty isn’t that great. But otherwise, I haven’t had any issues with American Home Shield. Most of what I've done was over the internet and it has been very easy and efficient.
When we had a repairman come out that I felt was deceptive, they resolved that and sent someone for a second opinion. But I didn’t appreciate when they said that they were gonna charge me for the visit if the second opinion gave us the same opinion as the first guy. I wasn’t particularly happy about that, but at the end of the day, the first guy was deceptive, so it didn’t matter that he gave a different opinion and I wasn’t charged. Overall, American Home Shield has been very efficient and I appreciate that. Usually, when we put in a request, somebody would be calling us by the next day and somebody would be out here within the next couple of days. So that has been very nice. I appreciate that.

There was a stoppage in my main line and ClearFlow Water had to clear out something out of the main vent when I called them originally. But I noticed my drains were still going slowly, so I put in a follow-up request. They came by and they just weren't able to do anything because there's no clean-out in my main sewer line. Until it actually stops, there's no way to get in there because there's no point for them to access to put in the auger from which they would be able to snake it. Still, the tech was able to identify where the buildup most likely is. And at least now, I understand why it's still moving slow and that it's certainly not their fault.

The microwave got some kind of ventilation on it and it was making an eerie noise. We couldn't use it because we thought it was gonna blow up. Also, it didn't heat at all and we were stuck with it for a couple of weeks. The contract people that American Home Shield assigned were fantastic. Chris, the rep, came over and he knew his stuff. He was such a good guy, very knowledgeable and he explained to me what he was doing. I thought he repaired the microwave but then I found out a week later that that part that needed to be fixed couldn't be fixed, and they requested a part. American Home Shield called me back and said that I’m authorized to replace my microwave and gave me an option of what I might be interested in. I took a while to get it because I didn't know anything about freaking appliances.
We had a tough situation with American Home Shield for a prior washing machine that took forever to get it squared away. They sent three different repairmen and eventually, the last one said that it was unrepairable. In the meantime, we were washing all over the place. We rely on AHS to get good people out there and resolve this. It's the last thing we want. We’re consuming and trying to pay for the services and we want something reasonably and properly done in a proper timeline. With the claim for the microwave, I was impressed. We were gonna go someplace else and I was trying to think where we could go. There's a lot of companies out there but we decided to stick with AHS for a little while. It all comes from AHS picking the right people to represent us and take care of these issues that we have.

I had a satisfactory experience with American Home Shield. My water heater broke and they got somebody from D&G Appliances & Air to come out and fix it. The claims process was about expected and the contractor was fine. They were good guys and they did their job. I needed a new water heater and the installation took a couple of hours. My water has been hot since then. American Home Shield is as good as any other company.

When the washer would finish a cycle, it wouldn't drain and so we had to drain it ourselves. When the tech came, everything was fine and then a day later, the dryer didn't dry. The tech replaced a part, fixed the dryer, and the washer has been fine since.

All of my dealings with American Home Shield have always been positive. I’m thankful that my banker recommended them to me many years ago when my house got to be about 15 years old. I went ahead and took a policy out with them, and I’ve been very pleased with them ever since. That’s why I always recommend them to the rest of my family. My son and my son-in-law both have it, and all three of us are very pleased with their work.
American Home Shield always recommends A-English Plumbing and he has always done my plumbing. He’s a good plumber. I’ve had problems with other people but never with him. He’s right on the spot every time. What I like about him is that when he comes in, he puts plastic down on all of my floors and he takes his shoes off. He’s very knowledgeable about not damaging or dirtying your house. The hot water heater in my master bath was leaking one time and he said that the tank needed to be replaced. When you take a hot water heater out, that’s got a lot of water in it and it’s dripping. The hot water heater sits in a closet in our master bath and my master bath is at the back of my house. But he’s very cautious about respecting your house.

We couldn’t open the garage. My husband called American Home Shield over the phone to file a claim. The guy from 495 Garage Door that came out to fix it was really nice. Our garage has been fine so far. The repair helped tremendously because, now, we’re able to go in our garage and not be inconvenienced by the weather.

My air furnace went out and was blowing cold air. Everything went well with the rep when I put that claim in over the phone. I had an issue with the first vendor though. We scheduled three appointments and they rescheduled on all three. The first one, they rescheduled in the middle of the block. The second one, I told them that I could only get there for two hours, and then they called me after I left 'cause it's a rental property. And in the third one, they rescheduled again on me in the middle of the block. They then switched me over to Air Design who was great. Everything works well now.

The AC's thermostat, the thing where you change the temperature, would not work. I could not turn it on or off. I called in the claim and the rep who helped me out was fine. The contractor from Advanced Cooling and Heating was nice, and the quality of service I got was good. The thermostat was replaced. Overall, American Home Shield comes handy in an emergency.

I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and everything they have done so far has been very good. In this last issue, the toilet kept running and we did everything that we could do and were capable of doing, which isn’t much, and we were losing a lot of water. If we have a water problem in our community, they restrict the water and so, we were concerned about that issue of the water running. The contractor, T & N Plumbing and Electrical, came out and did his job. Whatever he did, it corrected it and we haven’t had any problem since. He did it quickly and he was gone, which is what I always appreciate especially with plumbing. My husband and I are elderly and we don’t know a lot about anything. So, AHS has been a great help for us.

The handle on our faucet was worn out and the water wouldn't cut on. I called Home Shield and spoke with a representative. They sent High Priority Plumbing and they were good. They replaced the faucets and everything had been working since.

Having American Home Shield is convenient and it saves me the time of hunting people down. I'm in a remote area, so it's tough for them to find people at times. But I only have the same problem and I'd rather have them to look for people than me. In my last claim, Whirlpool came out and the tech was really good. He had to order a part then he got it in. I told him I was leaving town so he rushed it and had it fixed before I left.

At Your Pool Service LLC came out when the heater was not working. I did the claim on the American Home Shield website and everything went pretty smooth and easy. I got contacted pretty quickly, they came out pretty quick and everything got addressed in a pretty reasonable amount of time. The tech kept me in the loop, follow-up was good and he let us know when he was on his way over. Now the heater is better than before it broke.

My heater wasn't working and it was cold as can be. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. Their representatives were very helpful and they did wonderfully. AC and HTG was here within two hours after I filed the claim. The contractor was awesome, very knowledgeable and explained everything to me. Everything is good.

I had some type of a power surge into the opener itself and the board kinda burned. But that's not something that American Home Shield covers. American Home Shield covers when it's worn out or if something gives out, but the power surge was more of an act of God. So, I had to replace it and the new unit has a surge protector on it, so I won't have that problem in the future. But the guy from Flash Garage Door Service who came out determined the cause of the problem and I paid the 75 bucks.
Other than that, I've been with AHS for 17 years now and they've done great. They've had to replace one of my water heaters and they just replaced one of my air conditioners. But when I replaced it, I was out a bunch of other money because I owed to bring them to code. Still, I've always had AHS. Unfortunately, as homes get older, things break down. But when I called, they'd come out and they take care of stuff. If it's covered, it's covered. If it's not, it's not. I tell everybody that any warranty company has limitations and it's like getting insurance policies. The only thing is, AHS has some very long wait times when we call in sometimes. But that's about it. I always get in and they always come out on time.
In fact, I had a microwave go out and initially, I thought we just had a little light out on the microwave. Apparently the only thing they repair on microwaves is the motor, the little glass tray, the motor underneath that little glass tray, and the round ring. Anything else goes wrong, they replace them. So, American Home Shield is replacing my old microwave and they're coming out today to install the new one.

With AHS, people should be very careful with the exclusions in their contract because they can easily get trapped into something. There was a time when I had a light fixture that wouldn't work. I called and contacted American Home Shield and they sent a guy out. He fixed the fixture and then I got a call from AHS telling me that because it's a fixture not in my wall, it's not covered by the policy. They said that the $75 service charge was only to see if the work was covered by my policy or not. I paid them $75 and got absolutely nothing for it. The contract could have been clearer. More recently, I had a plumbing issue and AHS sent Ability Access Plumbing and Rooter. They came and were very quick and efficient. They changed out a pipe that was leaking. They got the job done and left. I couldn't ask for anything better.

When filing a claim, I was not comfortable in doing it online with a company I had just started working with, but there was no number for me to call and actually speak to a person. I tried three different numbers that were on their website so that I could contact them, and all three were automated only. Recently, All in One Appliance Repair came out and repaired our dishwasher. They did a good job and everything's working fine right now.

We just moved in and did a few claims with American Home Shield. We had the locks changed and the tech who came out was great. He was here for about 30 minutes. We also had the heating checked to make sure everything was okay before the winter started. And then, we filed claims as well for the dishwasher, the microwave and the garage door opener. The dishwasher worked fine, but they ended up replacing the garage door opener because it was so old and they didn’t have parts. For the microwave, where the display wasn’t working, we are waiting for the guy to get back to us because he said the display might be labeled as cosmetic.

I got them in September and I had called to file my first claim. I told them that it was the air-conditioning unit in my wine cellar. But evidently, they didn’t take up that it was a wine cellar, and they sent somebody for air-conditioning. I get the A-US Air Conditioning of Texas guy out there, and then he tells me that American Home Shield doesn’t cover wine cellars. So, ultimately, it wasn’t covered, and we wasted some time getting somebody else out there who could help me. I used to run a call center, so that wasn’t the best customer service experience I ever had. They need to be better educated on the phone, on what’s covered and what’s not, and with what questions to ask to quickly identify that. Also, they somehow had a little bit of difficulty identifying me or finding my contract number.

I had a plumbing issue and the guy that AHS sent out was professional. He resolved the problem and showed me how to operate the thing. He was timely as well, so I was very pleased with the work. Other than that, I’ve been getting quite a few calls from AFC Home Warranty Club and their prices seem to be cheaper. But service-wise, my experience with AHS was excellent,.

I originally called American Home Shield to advise them that I had some water that was leaking underneath my sink. Also, my dishwasher would come on and I could hear it working but water wouldn't go through. They sent out Whirlpool and the techs came to look at my dishwasher. They said it needed a different part. They put that part in and it still wasn't fixed. Whirlpool's techs then said that my problem was a plumbing issue and they couldn't do anything. But then, they still used the part to fix it and I don’t understand what they fixed if the dishwasher was never actually fixed.
I had to call and advise American Home Shield that a plumber needs to come out so then they tried to charge me another fee when I initially stated that the issue was the water which would have been solved by a plumber in the first place. They ended up waiving the fee but then I had to go through a whole heck of a lot to get that handled. A plumber came out and he stated that there was a pebble inside one of the tubes where the water goes through. He stated that if the Whirlpool people would have just pulled it out and looked at the tubing that’s connected to the dishwasher, they would have known that that was what was stopping the flow of the water.
A couple of days after the plumber left, I noticed that water was still leaking underneath the sink. AHS said I was gonna have to file another claim for the leak which would cost another $100. I had to argue with them about that. They finally sent someone back out and the gentleman saw that the water was leaking from the garbage disposal. He contacted American Home Shield and then they said that it would cost me another fee because the problem is with the garbage disposal and that we weren't dealing with the dishwasher anymore. I told them that we were still dealing with the leaking problem and I would need the same kind of contractor. I said that AHS is not supposed to be charging separate fees if I would need a plumber. We went back and forth with that and then finally, AHS agreed to not charge me another fee and had someone come back out and fix the garbage disposal.
AHS' customer service has been absolutely terrible. A lot of times, I don’t know if they source out of the country. A lot of the individuals that I speak with don’t understand anything that I'm saying. They’re reading from a script and so they keep telling me the same thing over and over again despite me trying to explain something totally different to them. They also don't know how to listen. When I contacted them on social media and explained the issues that I had, they blocked me. They told me that a social media specialist will contact me but when that specialist did, that person still didn't know how to talk to me properly and still told me that my issue was not gonna be resolved. I've had to contact the Better Business Bureau about AHS.

We've been with them for 20 years. Our latest claim with them was for the dryer that wasn't working and the ice maker's button that was broken, and so we had water squirting everywhere. My husband went online and then Hornet Appliance Services came out. Everything's fine now.

I had a leak underneath my kitchen sink, and it seemed like it was coming from a faulty or a loose faucet. And so, it wasn’t pouring out but underneath my sink in the back, it was wet. I called American Home Shield when I noticed that. The gentleman from Budget Rooters came out and looked at it, and he figured that a new faucet would be in order. He had one in the truck, so he replaced it, and there is no more leak. He was great. He was very personable, and I like that he came prepared. I would give him an A plus.
Normally, I call to submit my claims. This time, I did it online. That was the first time I did it online, and I thought the website was pretty easy to figure out. The one problem I had was I wanted the water heater looked at too, and the options that I had to choose for as far as why, there was really just other. Then it didn’t let me write anything in. The website was good, but it didn’t allow me to personalize anything. Still, things worked out pretty good because I was able to communicate that to them on the phone. I feel like American Home Shield is the number one home warranty company I would recommend to my friends.

Submitting claims has been really easy, but canceling a claim is much harder. I thought I had a problem with my plumbing and submitted a claim. They weren't gonna come until the next day and I said, "That's not acceptable because I don't have any toilets in my house that are working." The rep canceled the claim immediately and I thought everything was fine.
When I got home, I didn't need the claim anyway because the issue was that the City of Winter Park doing something with the sewage line and caused an explosion of water in both bathrooms. The next day, a technician showed up and I said, "I canceled the claim within 10 minutes of when I made it and AHS said they sent it to your company." He said okay, but for about two months, I got bills from that company when I didn't owe anything. But it's all straightened out now. AHS needs to make the connection between the cancellation and the company to work a little better. Other than that, I liked the contractor who came out and got my PSC fixed. AHS is just what I need.

My microwave wasn't heating properly and it stopped working. I called Home Shield, everything went well with the claim representative, and the response time to get a contractor was quick. G & L Appliance Service came out and he had to come back for a second visit, which was a good timing, as he had to order a part. So, it has been a good overall service.

I submit claims to American Home Shield either online or through a rep. The website does pretty good and it took AHS just a couple of days to send Realty Rekey. They rekeyed four locks in my house and put locks on all the doors. Harold, the rep, was quick and did a very good job. He was conscientious of dirt on his shoes and that sort of thing.

I recently submitted a claim and the tech was very knowledgeable and thorough. He did what he needed to do, and I appreciated it. He and I also talked about the lightbulb fixture. He told me the way the bulb's supposed to be put in but when I did, it sagged and hung down. I still got a couple of problems too. There were two areas we didn't check that I didn't think to tell him to check where the lights don't work and when I call back for the other two lights that aren't working, I'll ask about the light fixture.
I had American Home Shield when I lived in Atlanta, so I knew the services. When they take your request, they give you the name of a company, and then the company is responsible for letting you know who's going to come. Just like tomorrow, I don't know who's coming. I've got to call GE and ask them the name of the tech who's coming. If AHS knew who would be coming, that would be great, but I understand they farm out the services.

I wanted my unit checked out as it's old, and it was time for me to turn on the heat. I was advised by a contractor that had done some work on my house that there was visible brown scorching on the outside of my unit, which would determine that the heat exchanger was probably cracked or going bad. And that could be detrimental to running the heat in my house, so I called and set up a service appointment. Doctor Cool came out and I felt comfortable with the tech who came out. He seems to be knowledgeable and adjusted the issue where I didn't need to get a full replacement. And so, it seemed to be worth it to have them come out. My very first claim was a horrible experience but this recent experience was much smaller in issue and it went smoothly. The contractor company responded in a timely manner, and the service call happened in a timely manner.

I wait for things to break, and then I start whining to American Home Shield about getting it fixed. Usually, it’s fairly quick, but sometimes, it takes a while. I had a little trouble getting AHS before to work with me on my water heater, but eventually, we got it squared away. then my recent claim took a while to get an appointment, but that’s just because everybody was worried about it being cold and them not being warm.
One man came out and he had a truck with ladders. He looked at the outside unit then he went up into our attic and looked at the rest of the unit. I have about a 3,000 square foot house and he found a dead rat in a trap and he was nice to remove it out of there for me. After getting down from there, he went back outside and proceeded to take the unit all apart. He told me that the only thing that was wrong with it was freon. I also appreciate his quality of checking the temperature gauges. He didn’t need to fix it, it was just a little bit lower than the maximum. I certainly liked the guy. He did a good job and was pretty thorough.

Both of the washer and garbage disposal issues were resolved. The garbage disposal was completely disintegrated and they put a new one in and it’s been working great. The contractor was super helpful and very flexible. They called me back within 30 minutes of putting in the claim and they put on little booties before they came in, got the work done really quickly, and then got out of there. Also, when I went online to submit the claim, I just had to click a few boxes, and then it was done.

After my AC failed, AHS sent an AC repairman ($125.00), who offered replacement of 15 year-old parts ($2,000.00 to $3,000.00) that we were told would again fail in 2 or fewer years, necessitating the replacement of the entire system, an additional $7 to $8,000.00. So I'm looking at between 9 and 11-thousand dollars within 2 years if I go with AHS's AC contractor. Or simply pay ~ $8,000.00 to replace the system now. But AHS wouldn't cover any of that cost. It makes no sense to opt for temporary repairs when you know you have to replace the entire system within 2 years.
On the only other time I called for plumbing service, it was for a leaky outdoor faucet. $125.00 later, I was told there was "a part missing," and they would not repair it. My options were to risk another $125.00, have another AHS contractor come out, and tell me the same thing, or have it repaired with someone else. I didn't want to risk having to spend $250.00 with nothing to show for it, so I had someone not connected to AHS repair it. Cost me $258.00, but it was fixed. I spent over $383 to fix a simple leaky faucet. So like a bad slot machine, AHS takes your money and never pays off. I'm out the $250.00 for the AHS contractor service call, plus $34.99 per month for 8 months, a total of $494.93.
But wait, there's more. When I cancelled the contract, I was hit with an "administrative fee" of almost a month's full charge. I was not told of this fee when I called to cancel. I only learned of it when I was trying to retrace what I paid to AHS, which involved logging into my old AHS account. I'm betting they would never tell me anything, and simply wait for it to go to collections, and somehow charge me even more. Another $28.11 wasted. I spent a grand total $523.04 on AHS and got absolutely nothing in return.
My conclusion:
1. AHS relies only on contractors that will find in favor of AHS, not the customer.2. You are better off not using AHS, instead finding good contractors that will do the job right the first time.

When I bought the house the seller bought the American Home Shield plan, and I renewed it after its expiration. Later my water heater broke down. They sent in a plumber and apparently fixed this. Later within one month the water heater broke down again with the same error code. This time the technician they sent in didn't even bother to fix this. He noted down the model only and told us they are not able to fix it.
The next day American Home Shield told us this is something they can't fix and won't cover it because it was not normal wear and tear. The error code is from lint build up, but how can lint build up so quickly within a month? Something is wrong with the heater, they don't know how to fix, and refuses to pay for the fixes. The plumber they have a contract work for them, not for consumers, and will come up with whatever excuses to cover American Home Shield. Very dishonest practice, and wasted my money and time. Never going to work with them.

I’m very happy with the service so far. I didn't expect them to take care of my issues this quickly. It’s really easy to submit claims. I call them and tell them the issue and they set it up. And the people shows up next day. There was one time that they showed up on the same day. I had an issue with my air conditioning unit outside a couple of months ago, and I had to work with three companies. The first company told me it was a preexisting condition but I told them it was not. So I called American Home Shield and they sent out another company. They looked at it and they said it was an issue, so they will take care of it. And then they worked on it. After 45 minutes, they told me it’s a two-tier system and they don’t work on that. But that was a false statement, because when the next person came, they said it was a regular issue.
It looks like the contractors are not very thrilled about working under these warranty works. They are showing up, but most of these people are not really enthusiastic about working under American Home Shield. So when they sign with the contractors, they could let them know what the issue or discuss with them why they are not happy to do warranty work. But American Home Shield is doing good. They are getting people to show up and fix the issue.

I called in at American Home Shield and told them that I needed someone to come out and fix my refrigerator. The tech from BA Appliance Repair came here between 9:00 and 9:30, and he did his job and replaced the part in the refrigerator.

The claim submission online was simple and straightforward. The services company HTG texted me on a regular basis, except when I did not hear back for the dryer. I then sent the request back to them and they responded back. They were still waiting for the part and they didn't have much update for me. Other than that, they were awesome. The technician was well educated. He came on time as promised and he fixed everything. He was good in staying in communication.
As for essential appliances, like on the claim that I opened for our refrigerator, I wanted somebody who could come the next day rather than come out a week later, which was what happened. This meant that we were out of a refrigerator when we have kids at home and there was food getting spoiled. So, I had to go buy a spare refrigerator just for the extra days. I have two houses, one in Chicago, and one here. The current house that we live in came with a warranty plan with somebody else. And then, the other house was already on American Home Shield. So once this expires, we will switch to American Home Shield so I can stay on one place. I can make one payment instead of having to pay out two payments.

The fan on the freezer side of my refrigerator started running really loud nonstop, so at about 11 o'clock at night, I submitted a claim online with AHS. I got a response the very next day and then had service the following day. The contractor who came out was fantastic. He was very helpful and personable, and was someone I felt comfortable having in my home. He had to order a fan motor, which came in within less than a week, and then he got it replaced in a little less than an hour when he came back out the second time. This is my first claim with AHS, and despite hearing bad things about home warranty companies, my experience has been great so far.

I've had American Home Shield for 15 years. I had it on a house before this one. They've always worked for me. I had a problem one time and they resolved it. It's fine submitting a claim too. It's online and it's easy. I had AAA Appliance Doctor come out for an appliance issue. Some flapper on my dishwasher was stuck and the first thing the woman technician did was unstuck it with her finger, and ran the dishwasher. It's been running since then.

My father-in-law had American Home Shield and had good results. I called AHS, set up the account and I’ve been with them for less than a year. When our furnace stopped heating. I called, they pulled up our account and they schedule Myers, who were good guys. I had no problems. It was a very small part that shut the unit down and the guy replaced it. The furnace works and there has been no issues.

It's annoying that you get these people out to your house to fix an issue and if there’s a related issue right next to it that’s not in the work order, they won’t fix it. I had a guy that did drains out and I filed for one clogged drain. He came out and I said, "This one’s running slow too.” He said, “I can’t do that one. It’s not on the work order.” He was very nice about it, but he said that he could only come out for what was on the work order.
I recently had an electrical issue, but it was a user error. I didn’t put my breaker right. It cost 125 bucks to find out that I don't have a bigger problem, which was worth it to me but it was also the worst. A lot of the people who have a home warranty don’t know very much about home stuff, which is why they have the warranty in the first place. However, there’s no helpline to call before I book an appointment. As a single parent homeowner, I don’t have the luxury of getting stuck with a huge bill. It’s just not something that I can handle. With AHS, I know that there’s a place where I can easily file claims online and it's basically buying insurance against the systems in my home. I'm happy with them and recommend them to lots of people.

To submit a claim for my heating unit, I spoke to an American Home Shield representative. We made an appointment on the date I had chosen. And the contractor who came was really nice, very knowledgeable and respectable. He explained to me about the heating unit making the noise and said that it was normal. I’m very pleased with AHS.

I’m completely in the middle of a dilemma with American Home Shield and I'm entirely unhappy. I purchased my home in August and the Realtor that I had suggested American Home Shield. I took her suggestion and I purchased a warranty. It was $600 or $700. So, I had them for a while. For this washer that I inherited from the woman that lived there before, I filed the claim online and paid the $125 on October 11. It was Columbus Day weekend, so I waited ‘til Monday. Usually, they’ll email within 24 hours to say who the contractor is and their phone number. That was on a Friday. By Monday, I hadn't heard anything, so I called them. I asked for the status and they said they hadn’t found the contractor yet. I waited ‘til the next day. I called them back and they said the soonest they had available was Sears, but they were not available for another week and a half.
I couldn’t wash my clothing so I had to go to a laundromat. Sears came out that day and I had to miss work. The two-hour window was 10:00 to 12:00, and the tech showed up at 12:00, went down to the washing machine in the basement, looked at the serial number sticker and said, “This is faded. I can’t read this. And if I can’t read it, I can’t order the part.” He said he knew that AHS won’t pay him unless he has the serial number. So, he left and reported that he couldn’t repair it. And then, AHS came back to me and said they had a second contractor for me. It was this place called Supreme Appliance. I called them and they said, “We can come next Wednesday.” It was a week from the phone call. So, I waited another week.
I missed work again and the guy came in and said that he needed parts and that he would order it. I specifically said, “Are you sure you can order this, even though you don’t know the serial number?” He said, “Yeah, we’ve been doing this for 12 years. It’ll be fine, no problem.” That was on a Wednesday. He said, “I’ll be back Friday or Monday.” Monday rolled around, I didn’t get a phone call, not anyone showed up. I called them up and their rep said, “Oh, no, they can’t repair it. They put it in through AHS for replacement.” So, the next day, I called AHS and they said, “No, they didn't put it in for replacement. They wanna order a part, but they don’t order parts themselves, we order parts.” So, it was going through that.
A week later, the contractor got the parts and said, “Okay, we can’t come until Friday to do it. We can come between 10 AM and 12 PM." I said, “Okay. I have to fly for work that day, so I can’t possibly be at my house. But you guys came in last time. You know where the machine is. Are you able to go in and fix it without me being there?” He said, “Yes, not a problem.” I gave them the code to my house.
Friday morning rolled around, I was on my flight, landed in Florida, and from the airport, right when I landed, I called to ask if they have gotten into the house and fixed the washer. He said they did and that everything’s working. A month later, I got back from my trip on Monday, went to my house and there was a service invoice sitting on the machine that said, “Victor came. Replaced all the parts. Machine working fine.” But the machine wasn't working. It gave the same error code it always gave. They did not do anything to my machine. I called AHS and told them that the guy has 24 hours to come back and make sure that he fixes it. AHS sent me another email and it said, “Your contractor has been assigned.” So I was initiating the whole thing all over again.
I called Supreme Appliance myself said, “You guys came to my house and said you fixed my machine. It’s not working. You submitted it as ‘repaired’ through AHS, so now I’m stuck because it was not fixed at all.” And the receptionist said, “I need to call my boss and talk to him.” I waited two hours and she didn't call back, so I called back and said, “I wanted a phone call back. I wanna understand why this happened, and I want my machine fixed. At the least, I would expect you to schedule a service call so they can come and fix this.” She said, “I’m not willing to do any of this until I talk to him.” And I said that if they don’t fix it, I’m going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They put an invoice on my machine saying it was fixed, when that was not accurate.
The owner called me back and I told him what was happening and he said, “I don't know what you want me to do about this.” I said, “I want you to either come back and fix the machine or report through AHS that you can’t fix it because if you don’t do either one of those, I can’t get my machine fixed.” And he started screaming at me. So, I said that I’ll just deal with AHS.
I called AHS that day and they put me on hold. They called the owner of Supreme Appliance and they told me he screamed at them as well, and then they said, “Call back tomorrow. It should be in our authorization department to be replaced.” I called back the next day and they said they haven’t gotten a response from him about repairing it or replacing it. I called back the next day and same exact thing. This was last Monday, so on Friday afternoon, I called AHS, talked to a guy, and he said, “Here’s what I’m gonna do. This contractor hasn’t gotten back to us about your machine, so I’m just gonna put you into the replacement department already. They're gonna see the note that I left, even though authorization hasn’t done it, and they're gonna do it anyway.” I said, “Okay, before you transfer me, are you sure they're gonna do this and not just send me back?” He said, “Yeah, I’m sure.”
He transferred me to this replacement department and the guy on the line said, “I can’t do anything for you. There’s no note saying to replace this. The authorization department is waiting to hear from this contractor.” So, I’m waiting to get my machine either repaired or replaced for a second contractor who’s unwilling to even respond to AHS. And instead of AHS saying, “Okay, this is enough. Maybe we should just replace it,” they were still having me wait every day for this guy to respond. It’s November 25th, I filed this on October 11th. I haven’t gotten the $125 back for paying for the contractor. At this point, I might as well just spend my own money to buy a machine because I’m at home without a washing machine. And it costs money every time I’m in the laundromat. Every time I asked for a manager to call me back, no one has called me back. I never got return phone calls, ever. I regret purchasing this warranty.

I'm very satisfied with AHS. The board at the bottom of my dishwasher wasn't working and the unit wouldn't start. I called American Home Shield and they immediately called Appliance Service Masters. I got a call from them and a tech came out pretty quickly and diagnosed the problem. We had to get a part and when we got that, he came again, put the part in and the dishwasher worked. He was very knowledgeable and very helpful.

My ceiling fan was stuck and it was not turning off one time and I called in the order to American Home Shield. The rep whom I spoke with was nice and they sent Tech Electrical Contracting who came out in two or three days. The tech was a professional guy who talked to me about everything. Everything has been working excellently since the repair. I have some other warranty companies which are cheating. They take my money and never fix the job. On the other hand, AHS has been a very good company.

I’m in the mortgage business so I get different referrals from different companies and American Home Shield’s coverage was better than others. I’ve been with them for three years and I’ve had had good service. But I had a water heater just now where it needed to be replaced, and the contractor didn’t get back to me for three weeks because he got sick. It is what it is. It is a service that’s saving me money.

AHS has always been good. There was a time when my garage door was falling apart and the hinges were detached. I tried to close it and I couldn't. I had to have two of my friends come over to let it drop down as I didn't wanna have the garage door open the whole night and through the weekend. I called in a claim to AHS and they sent All Service Garage Doors. The tech came right away and fixed it in not even an hour. The service was excellent like always.

Everything was great and I'm happy and very satisfied with my dishwasher claim. The dishwasher was leaking and its door wouldn't open slowly. A dishwasher door usually kinda opens easily but the spring inside the door of my dishwasher is busted, so the doors slams to the ground when you open it. That was the problem. The contractor fixed it, replaced the door seal and the spring. It took about a total of five days for the parts, then replaced that, and it was all good.

To put in a claim for my dryer's heating element, I called American Home Shield. I also have another claim, but the rep forgot to put it through. But she was really good about getting the claim for the dryer set up and done. Someone was sent out the next day and he was excellent. Parts had to be ordered, which I understand, and he came back. Sometimes you wait all day, but he was in and out. I was given a time slot of 8:00 to 11:00. He showed up at 7:30 and was out by 8:10. It worked out well and I'm happy so far.

I had a claim for my microwave and it went good. The contractor came in and fixed it. He was cordial and professional. American Home Shield itself has no problems, but sometimes some problems come up with their vendors and the scheduling.

The technician who came out from Advance Plumbing did a perfect job. There was a lot of stuff in one claim. There were bathrooms that were clogged. The garbage disposal was bad also. But then I have two more claims going on with my stove and my oven, and my oven has been broken for over a month. It's crazy. I'm really upset. There was something wrong with a part so somebody has to make the part. But the oven hasn't been fixed yet. I'm sick and tired with American Home Shield. I've been with them for 10 years now but I'm gonna have to switch companies.

I had a problem with my garbage disposal. I called in the claim to American Home Shield and their reps I dealt with were good. The contractors were there within a day or two, so they were quick. They were awesome, too. Now the garbage disposal is working fine.

When I had an issue and Antech Appliances came out, I wasn't home, but my wife was. They fixed the problem, but she complained that the guy was banging really hard, which was just normal. He also didn't speak much English and there was a little communication gap, but that didn't really matter because he fixed the issue. For me, AHS is like an insurance policy for my heating and air conditioning. I pay 40 a month on average and then 100 if something happens. But someone could charge me a lot more just to fix my air conditioning.

Submitting the claim for my air conditioner was very easy. When the air conditioner came on, the air vent was not opening and the contractors replaced one of the motors. They were efficient, quick, and did a good job.

My mother had American Home Shield for over three years, and she's used it quite a lot. She has had some electrical issues and a cooler issue, and then AMPM Appliance Service was also out for the dryer. She's never said anything bad about the people that had come out.

Home Shield had a promotion, where they sent their contractor and they checked my heating. Now, I have a second request for service due to a leak in one of my pipes and I'm waiting for a call to confirm the appointment. Initially, the claim was with Bell Cow but it was a horrible experience with customer service so I requested another company. Bell Cow's technician was very rude and unprofessional. He said the system is broke and they couldn't do anything. In Bell Cow's defense, I got a call one day this week from one of the branch managers, who apologized and was trying to see how they can make it right. I then realized it wasn't the company, it was the technician. Other than that, I'm satisfied with Home Shield and the service I've received.

I’ve never had my house sprayed before and I’ve had it three years. Terminix, contracted by AHS, came out and did a routine spray. They did a good job. I’ve had a couple of other claims before that one. I had a light fixture, some electrical stuff and air conditioning. The technicians did good.

My washing machine, because of it being a front loader, has a little reservoir where all the water goes into and if it gets clogged, then the water spills outside. Because it had a leak, I thought a part, like the rubber seals, needed to be replaced. The company American Home Shield hired to come out did a really good job. The young man who came was very nice and friendly. The person that I had purchased the machine from had a dog and they’d get in the towels so the hair builds up. The tech stated that it needed to be thoroughly cleaned out even if there was one or several hairs, which was what he did.

Thank God for American Home Shield. It’s been awesome. We had just bought the house and everything seemed to be fine on the home inspection but when we came here and moved in, we couldn’t get any of the burners to work. 4 A Appliance Repair fixed the Dacor range and it is doing great now. Aside from that, the dishwasher also flooded everything. In fact, that was the first call to American Home Shield and it is still an ongoing claim. But the guy who came out was great. He said we would need a new dishwasher. But it has been super difficult to get ahold of the appliance reimbursement group.
I spent hours on hold and then was told to buy this and do this. So I did and sent in all the receipts. But I still have not gotten my reimbursement check yet. Apparently, it was processed on November 22nd. Still, that’s a long time to be out for $400 around the holidays. I also had an electrician who was kind of an idiot. I know quite a bit about home remodeling and home stuff, and I got a sense that he was just lazy and didn’t wanna do anything. He was like, “No, this is just the problem,” and pretty much left. But except from him, everybody else has been wonderful.

In my first claim with American Home Shield, C Mayes Plumbing & Heating came out on the same day I submitted the claim. The contractor just evaluated the problem on a faucet outdoors then he reported to AHS, and AHS refused to cover it. He was professional enough but nothing's been fixed.

Part of the drum of my dryer wasn’t working right. It was making a lot of noise and had wasted away so the gentleman from GE Appliances replaced those. This was my first claim and American Home Shield did a fine job. It’s very easy to submit a claim. I called and they got right on it. The gentleman came the next day and he fixed the dryer. I was very satisfied. He was a very nice gentleman and it worked out fine.

I like the fees at American Home Shield and I get a proper response. The technicians come out and identify what the problem is, then American Home Shield contacts me to find out what is covered and what isn’t. If they can’t resolve it, they contact American Home Shield to replace it. The service cost of $75 is well-worth it. I’ve only had one item that wasn’t covered, and that was a fixture in our home in Nevada, an area that’s about 60 miles outside of Las Vegas. We had a local technician coming out, but then American Home Shield went to people in Las Vegas. Other than that, I’m very pleased with them. The other home that I have covered is my daughter’s home, and when her washer broke down, they replaced it.
Quick Flow did very well recently. I was able to get them out here on a weekend, thanks to American Home Shield’s help to get someone out. I needed immediate response and they called and told me they’d be out within an hour, and they arrived on time. In fact, they arrived earlier. They took care of the problem and made a recommendation. I followed up with them to send a camera down the drain to make sure if there was any problem because it’s a new home where the warranty just came off. They found an irregularity, and I turned that in to the builder to find out what was gonna go on. I was very pleased with their service and thoroughness.

Hardy Plumbing did a great job fixing my garbage disposal. My only complaint is that they had fixed it 60 days prior but I had to call again because they didn’t do the job correctly the first time. Even the guy told me, “Why didn’t he change it the first time? Didn’t he see that it was leaking?” He knew from the start that he had to do something more than unlock it. So, it was two calls and two service fees before they fixed the problem. And this has happened to me twice that people had to come out for the same problem twice, and every time they would come, I have to pay $75. AHS should be considerate about that. If I call with the same appliance, they should at least give me a credit. I don’t mind paying half of it, but $75 a pop is a lot.

I enjoy being an American Home Shield. I like the convenience of having somebody come out make repairs in my home. George Boy Electric came out and repaired the electrical sockets that had gone out. There was one that had burned up and it had caused the other ones to go out in one room. So they replaced the one that was burned and the other ones came back on.

American Home Shield saved me about $14,000. We had a service contract and a routine service call, so the first company came out to service our heater for the wintertime. They said we needed a whole new system. They also said that we could experience a CO2 leak, and they never even followed the state regulations which calls for them to put a red tag on the furnace and shut it down and tell us to get us out of the house. Jazz Aire came out and they said, “No, there’s nothing wrong with your furnace.” The fellow's name was Mark and he was very nice. I’ve already told the initial service company that if I find one more independent technician to come in and say that there's nothing wrong with the furnace, I’m contacting the state to try to get his license revoked. They're taking advantage of senior citizens.
It would be great if American Home Shield just had service contracts, but I’d rather take the service and have to use American Home Shield than have them come out and inspect it to make sure the filters were good. Then, there’s less need for a claim. I also wish that they use recordings. I was trying to explain to them why I wanted them to come out for a verification inspection, and because they had the robo thing, I couldn't explain that. You can’t even get through to someone that’s real. But they had the technician here the very next day, so we can’t ask for better than that at this time of year. Also, we live in an over 55 community, and they're taking advantage of senior citizens ‘cause they know I can't get up in the attic. American Home Shield should also advertise that aspect of it since it’s also protection against these scammers out there.
Your AHS concerns about the HVAC repair are understood. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

When we were looking at some warranty companies, American Home Shield emailed and offered a discount. We’ve heard the name before and we were just ready to purchase so we thought we would try it. Submitting our AC unit claim online was very easy. The year that the house was built, the AC units had a funky system that gets clogged instead of the water coming out. It was something with the code in Flagler County. The technician was very knowledgeable about that. He told me why, how and what to do as far as maintenance. We were from up north so we never had encountered this type of problem where the water doesn't flow straight out of the pipe, which has angles. He was also very prompt and came when he said he was gonna come. He was also personable and professional. He diagnosed the problem quickly and fixed it.

It seemed everything I touched went. When I submitted a claim for the air conditioner, we had some real hot weather at that time. A woman called me from Georgia and she had already seen the complaint. She wanted to be sure that I was okay. She said, "Now, we're gonna get everything just as quick as possible. Just be sure you're drinking a lot of water. Can we go ahead and get you an air conditioner that we could put in the window until we get yours squared away?" I could not believe that woman.
I couldn't go with the air conditioner. I live in a condo and it's all sliding glass doors, and the windows that are in the kitchen are not where you could put that type of air conditioner, unless they have some other kind that you just put in your house. But I was so impressed with those people. From the time that it happened and by the time they got the parts and everything, it was probably a week. But the woman called all the way from Georgia and I even put her name for the thing for the man who came to help.
They wanted to go ahead and check up at first. I joined Home Shield about six months ago and on my little iPad, it came up where they would go ahead and do that service. And so, somehow, it got off my iPad and I didn't do it at that time. And so, when I called, they said they would send somebody. There were some problems and they went ahead and they took care of all of them.
Home Shield did wonderfully with my air conditioner. They also took care of my refrigerator. Excellent people. The contractor needed some extra help because my air conditioner wasn't working and it is up on the roof, which is slanted, and they don't do that anymore. The owner of the contractor came to my door and helped the original man to get that up there. I didn't know he was the owner and I said, "Sir, you people have been wonderful. How can I go ahead and tell your company?" He said "Here's my card. I'm the owner. I'll relay it." I said, "Oh, wonderful."
I got the results whether it was a refrigerator or air conditioner. Also, the thing that I felt good about was, my husband had passed. I live by myself. Every one of the people who came had a name badge. They called before, rang my doorbell, showed me their badge, and I felt safe. You don't see family companies anymore. That was one of the things that I was very impressed with. Also, people came and checked, whether it was a phone call or a concern.
I live in a condo with 84 people. And when I first got on the program, they said, "They're just taking advantage of a widow," and this and that. And I just said, "Hey, I have no other choice." I am telling all of them that said this and that, and they come and say, "Well, Beverly, how did this work out?" "Hey, this was wonderful." And I told them all about Home Shield. "You're kidding me." 84 people and anybody that I can go ahead and say how great Home Shield is.

I live in a mobile home, and my son was gonna change out the staircase. So we took out the old one, and in doing that, he could see under the mobile home that there was some water dripping from the main pipe. I called American Shield at about 4 o’clock, and they told me that someone would call me back. And the gentleman from Pruitt Plumbing called me that evening at 6:00 and told me they would be there the next day between 12:00 and 5:00, and he did show up during that time.
I got a call from Pruitt Plumbing and they told me that the service technician would be there within 10 minutes and he was there in five. The problem was under my house and I just hoped that everything is fixed properly. He took a picture of it before and after he had repaired it and showed me what the problem was, because it was under the house, and I wouldn’t wanna get under there. Everything was perfect and I was notified in text messages from American Home Shield what was going on as well. So, very, very, very pleased with both the plumbing company and American Home Shield.

The water line above my air conditioning unit has been dripping for years, and I didn't know it. Patriot Plumbing came out to fix the waterline, and they were telling me they couldn't get to it. It had to have the trunkline moved out of the way, and that was when they found out about the hole on the top of the main trunk line. But I kept trying to get them back out there and they wouldn't do it. I had to get somebody else out there at my own expense to fix the waterline, and they were able to fix it right off the bat without having anything to move. So, whatever was Patriot was trying to get done did not need to be done. For the hole on the top of the main trunk of my air conditioning unit, American Home Shield sent out Amazing Comfort. They came in to fix that, and they did a great job. They were very responsive and they worked with me to help me get out of my house. They were awesome.

Wayne Hyde Plumbing came out when our drains backed up. Basically, the toilets, the tub and the shower had backed up. I called the number for American Home Shield and filed the claim that way. It was our first time and they were able to explain everything I needed to do. It happened on the weekend and they said we should be getting a call from the contractor. We also got an email right away with their information on it. Everything was good.
The contractor was also very nice and friendly but they had to come out twice. After the first time, the problem actually happened again. So they ended up having to come back. They flushed it again and did some kind of hydro washing. Since then, everything has been good. But for one of the visits, they ended up not coming. They got stuck on a different call but they did reschedule and they came out the next time. They also gave us a discount because they didn’t make it the first time. So we were okay with that.

Anthem Mechanical came out to do a yearly maintenance check on the heater and air conditioning. I worked from home that day then the guy called and asked if he could come early than his appointment and I said yes. He was a very nice young man and very knowledgeable. He said that I have one air conditioning unit that is a few pounds low on Freon and at the end of this year, they won’t be making that Freon anymore. He highly recommended that I upgrade my systems as soon as I could. The R22 is being phased out and they have a new one, and the systems are not compatible. It was a $110 a pound for Freon and I needed four pounds and American Home Shield only covered $10 of that. Overall, American Home Shield has been really good with us and they’ve taken care of everything. I told other people about them.

The oven locked when we were cooking, so it caused a lot of smoke in the house. We couldn’t get it unlocked, so I unplugged the power to it and then I called American Home Shield the next day. That was Monday morning, and they said they would contact someone. I did not turn the appliance back on until someone was here, and then on Tuesday, Jeff from Canyon State Appliances came over. He went through and explained different things, which was helpful, and mentioned what we needed to do if it happened again. But everything has been working fine since. We’re very pleased that it wasn’t a lot of things and that it was a very easy fix. I was also happy that I got a good response.

I had my dishwasher replaced and there was some disconnect of the communication of when it was scheduled, how it was gonna happen. I was out of the loop and I had to follow up several times to make sure that happened. Then, most recently, I filed a claim online for initial preventive maintenance on the AC and the tech that was sent out was great.

I never have any difficulty submitting claims through American Home Shield. It's always been pretty easy and that's why I'm still with them. I had a garage door fail twice and a water heater fail twice and the dryer went out, so the warranty is worth it.

My shower head was leaking and the shower was cold. I submitted a claim with AHS and my experience went very well. I got a call then the guy came out the same day. He fixed it and went away. It was one of the smoother experiences I’ve had with AHS. I’ve also had a case where they gave me a seven-day window and it didn’t end up being seven days. But that was the original response and that was ridiculous. In the end, it worked out in the end though and the guy knew what he was doing. Other than that, AHS is good. But they could improve on the timeliness of their response to customers because when you get into plumbing issues, you turn your water off and you got no water. Some of the issues are really important and they need to respond right away.

I talked to the technician from Douglas Mechanical on the phone to give him directions and he was nice. He came out super-fast and fixed the issue that same day. It didn’t take him long. American Home Shield sent out someone for the AC faster than they used to and it has helped a lot. I have an AC guy that I would call myself because when it’s 100 and something degrees in Houston, you're not gonna sit with no AC. It used to be a day or two, years ago and AHS has changed it. They upgraded more response time for AC and this time, I filed it that evening, and they came out the next morning, so it was great.

Submitting a claim with AHS was very easy to do. And if you’re good with just putting something in on a website and don’t need to talk to a human being, per se, until the appointment is made, it’s good and has worked well for me thus far.For those people that like the human interaction, American Home Shield is definitely going away from that. They're very poor in terms of getting an actual person to contact but I've had very good luck with the contractors. They were, for the most part, really professional. I had an HVAC guy come out and he didn’t impress me. But when I had issues with the water heater, washer, and dryer, I was very satisfied with the contractor.
When my washer was eligible for replacement, I kept going onto the website to get the appliance that they recommended for me. But they didn’t have anything in stock. And even after I called them, it took a while to find who to talk to about the out-of-stock washing machine. They told me to check back on a date that they have a shipment in, and they’ll have the washing machine in stock again. I went and checked on the day she told me that they would have them, and it still said out of stock, so I gave up. It was over 30 days of not being able to have a washing machine.
I ended up having to purchase my own washer. However, the amount of money they gave for the washing machine is not realistic. I couldn’t buy the same washer for the amount of money they were reimbursing me for. So, we ended up spending more money than we wanted to do on a washing machine because we needed one. I had to submit the receipt, then they said it could take 10 to 14 business days to get the refund, and it did. I emailed AHS and got no response. I just had to count on the idea that American Home Shield is doing what they said they were gonna do. All in all, we didn’t have a washing machine for a period of time, and we were out of cash.
Nevertheless, American Home Shield saved our butts thus far. I got it when we closed on the home ‘cause it was an older home and had older appliances. I would definitely recommend it to anybody that’s selling their home or buying a home for the peace of mind. And while it hasn’t been perfect, it’s definitely saved us some money. But for anybody with new appliances, I wouldn’t recommend it.

A couple of years ago, I was with American Home Shield for one year when I first purchased my house in Houston, Texas. Right now, I moved from Houston to San Diego and I just purchased another house. And since I’m satisfied with American Home Shield's service, I went back to them. When I was in Houston, the garage door opener broke, and their contractor came to take a look and replaced it immediately. Also, I think American Home Shield's service is better than other companies based on the review.

We had a problem with the water heater that started with the water main break locally. We were getting dirty water and discovered that there were some cracks happening in the water heater. We went through the process with American Home Shield, and the guys from the plumbing place seemed perfectly fine, but it felt very classically that the insurance company was looking out for themselves, and not for me.
We have had a top of the line water heater and I asked them what were they going to replace it with. I don’t want to get a Home Depot heater in here, and it’s an incredibly tight fit so I'm not sure anything but a replacement of what we have is even gonna fit. That seemed to fall on deaf ears, like, “Oh, well. We will go about to give you something of similar quality.” Also, they told me I have to pay the plumbing company the expert charges because they’ll have to move the water pipes. How is it possible not to have to move the water pipes when you’re installing a new water heater? It felt like this is their way to use me to cover the plumber’s time with these classic hidden charges. The whole thing was a very disappointing first experience with them.

American Home Shield has been great and they’ve been attentive to the problems. I also even have them on our other home now. I spoke with people several times and they have taken care of the situation. We had someone come out to look at the washing machine and the water heater, which is the biggest issue. When the person came out to do the water heater, the only thing was that he only turned up the temperature in the water heater. We still have experienced the water going hot and it would've been a gas hot water heater. We thought it should not run out of water like hot water in that way. And then one of the faucets wasn’t running hot water, but he took care of that when he came back. So, everything went well.

The fan on my AC was not coming on itself. When the technician showed up, he climbed up to the attic and was able to put the switch and correct it. He was on time and communicative. It was a good experience. Everything's doing wonderfully. As far as having American Home Shield, their site has been pretty easy to navigate, which is nice.

American Home Shield's claim submission process could use a little help as far as trying to get a hold of somebody. Also, I talked to them about three different times, and they're evidently from another country, and I just didn't understand most of the people who answer the phone. But their contractor was very professional. They texted and told me when they would be here, then they called me about 30 minutes before they were coming and said they were on their way.

I’ve been happy with their service so far. The city of Madera had notified me that they thought I had a full-time leak somewhere because the water was going through their meter every hour of the day and night. But I couldn't figure out where it may be coming from. AHS sent out PR Plumbing, and they located a problem in one of my bathrooms. You couldn't tell that it was running. You can see the water shaking in the bowl and you see a little bit of movement, so you know that something was leaking. PR Plumbing was very professional and very personable. They fixed the problem.

I had a wiring issue in some ceiling lights. I called AHS and they sent someone out pretty quickly. It was within a week, and the tech was great. He had to make two separate trips because of what the problem was. He came one weekday, and then he had to come back the next week. And the only reason that it was delayed and we had to reschedule was because his son was in an accident and had to have two emergency surgeries, so that was fine.

I had an issue with a Kenmore refrigerator, but unbeknownst to me this particular Kenmore is made by LG. The first person came out, and they did all this business and said, “Oh, it needs a part, it needs a fan, it needs this.” They went back and then it was a couple of weeks I didn’t hear anything. So I called them and asked when they were coming. They said they don’t work on LG. I said, “Oh, when were you gonna tell me that? I didn’t know that.”
So I called American Home Shield back and they said, “We got somebody else who’s gonna do it now.” So I called another person and go, “Before you come out, can I just tell you it’s this kind of refrigerator and it’s really an LG.” He said, “No, I don’t do those.” So I called American Home Shield back and they said they have another person that does work on those, but they were in another town. They only come to our town once every two weeks. I’m like, “They’re the only person around?” And they go, “Yeah.” I’m like, “Okay, that’s what it is.”
So that contractor came out and ordered the part. The fridge needed a new control board business and that part took six weeks to come in. It was literally on a float boat from Korea. And so, the part came in and they installed it and he said, “It’s all good.” They then left. I’m actually in escrow on that house, so I’m not actually living there. I went back about a week later and knew it was not working. So I called them back out and he came out and he said, “Oh man, yeah, it’s not working.” And this was this Todd’s Appliance. They took a look at it and he said, “Yeah, it’s broken,” this and that, and then he said, “It’s probably the compressor now.”
So now, the compressor’s out and this fan and another deal. So I said, “What’ll you do with it?” He said, “You probably need a new refrigerator. It costs too much to do all this now, you know? And a new motherboard to begin with as well as these other parts.” So, I said, “Okay.” So I let it go back to them. And then some time goes by and I’m just about ready to close on this house. With this Todd’s Appliance there was no sense of urgency. I call them and go, “Can you guys make this happen? Can you call the warranty people and see if you can maybe get this thing going?” And so they said, “Yup, we got it. All taken care of.”
So I called American Home Shield and they gave us an option, to replace it or get a second opinion. I was like, “Okay, how does that go.” They wanted someone more knowledgeable about that refrigerator. Those were their words. I called Todd’s Appliance back and they said, “That’s not what we said.” I asked, “Well, how do I reconcile this? That’s what you’re telling me, that’s not what they’re telling me.” He was really not nice, “Don’t tell me how to do my job.” “I’m not. I’m just trying to get the refrigerator fixed.”
AHS sent Alliance and they were awesome. They were super responsive, literally like within 15 minutes of me calling American Home Shield, they called me. They were the fourth group to come and to service the same problem, and they were the only ones that actually did it. They were really kind. They came right out and the guy actually assessed it. He didn’t just say this piece is broken. He actually got in there and said, “Did the other guy do this?” I said, “No. He didn’t do any of that stuff.” So, he went in and he goes, “Wow, it’s way too much voltage, it’s frying. This is really hot. And I can’t even tell what else is broken because it’s fried out,” the portion that actually does the internal diagnostics. He goes, “It’s totally shot.” I said, “Okay.”
They called AHS and within a day a day I called American Home Shield and they said, “Yeah, they sent over the email.” And I did the business now for replacing it. And so, I replaced it and I sent them the receipt and I’m just kinda waiting the check. American Home Shield has been great. They’re always responsive when I call. The problem has been the service people that have been coming out. And it wasn’t until the fourth one, which was Alliance Appliance, who actually did what I would consider comprehensive assessment and then actually saw it through to make sure that it was gonna be reconciled in the end. Same with Alliance Appliance I have no complaints with them. They were great. So with those two people I had wonderful service. They were cool.

I worked with American Home Shield when I was renting, and some of the people that came out were very rude. I even had one leave without fixing the problem. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. But I still got Home Shield when I bought this home to give it another try, and so far, so good. Everything went well with the air conditioner claim. It was shutting off, and I thought it was the shut-off switch. The tech came out, and cleaned it and looked at it. Everything was good.

The heater was not heating the house. It wasn't blowing or anything. I called AHS and let them know. They set up the claim, gave me the information that Caldwell Heat & Air was coming and the contractor came over. They needed a part and they had to leave. They were gonna go do something else and see if the store had a part that they needed. They fixed the heater.

Parrish Plumbing was completely professional, knowledgeable and timely. I can’t be more satisfied. The time frame was wonderful on the contractor’s part, though American Home Shield took a little bit to look at it and approve it. When I was making the claim online, it didn’t right off say that my portion of it was gonna be $125. That was fine, but that should have been stated early on in the claim, not at the end. And they don’t want you to call, they want you to do everything online. They also lagged a little on getting back with the contractor. But the second everything went through, the contractor was calling me, coming by and working me into a schedule. He felt bad for me ‘cause I didn’t have any hot water, and I really appreciated that. I have expectations, and he met or exceeded them.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield is very easy. I do it online, and I love it. When we had a stopped-up drain, they sent a good contractor, whom we have used twice. So far, it has been very easy and they’ve covered what I thought they would, so it has worked out well.

I made a claim with American Home Shield when the oil furnace was not working, and when I went online, there was somebody assigned who was available the next day. However, I chose Dan from Foxcroft because he had been out there before and he’s familiar with the unit. I just had to wait for a week so that he could come out. The furnace needed to be bled out and Dan took care of everything on the day he came out. He was great. It gets annoying, though, that we pay a monthly service through American Home Shield and then we also have a service call fee each time.

I've used American Home Shield before and I had them when I bought another house in Georgia. During the home inspection, the water heater was working and everything was fine. We shut the thing off and then we closed 30 days later. We then renovated for another six weeks or so. We moved back in and tried to get the water heater lit but it won't light. The first company, Kelly's Plumbing, came out. They ordered a new controller for it because it's getting gas but the gas isn't getting to the pilot area. Still, it didn't work with the new controller. They suggested to get a new unit, so American Home Shield sent another company out The tech is here right now, looking at it, and kinda running into the same issues. Both Kelly's and this new company called ahead of time which I appreciate. They say when they're on the way and give you some time to get situated if you have work or something.

I had a plumbing issue in the hallway bathroom. It was leaking from where the tub connects to the cast iron pipe from the foundation. This was all according to the plumbers who went out there. And because of that, the water was seeping from underneath the wall. Luckily, I stopped using the bathtub, so I’m only using the master bathroom. I called American Home Shield. At first, they wanted to provide me with this company, but they weren’t certified, so I requested a second one, and they did. And they were the ones that came out and assessed the whole situation. They were quick to get to the job. They were very courteous, very respectful, very thorough, and very professional.
The first time, they went out to assess. The second time, they tried to fix the problem. But unfortunately, because they stated that we might have to go into the foundation. So, the job had to stop. The plumbing agency closed the case because it might be a foundation issue or they might possibly have to tear out the bits and pieces of the foundation to try to get to some of the cast iron and try to repair. Other than that, American Home Shield's service has been great. They gave me the option of cashing out. I was trying to negotiate, but there is a cost because of the fact that there’s a possible foundation issue. I understand that. But overall, they’ve done a very good job. They’ve been very respectful. They’ve been calling. So, I’m very happy with them.

Our thermostat wouldn’t kick off and it would just click and click. We did a claim with AHS on a Saturday. A tech from Kelso Heating & Cooling came out first thing on Monday morning. They had to replace the thermostat. The tech was wonderful. Everything was so simple and easy, and the thermostat works wonderfully. It was a very simple and easy process with AHS, and it worked like I wanted it to.

The air wasn’t turning on for the heater. When I submitted the claim online, the website was simple to use. The tech called the same day and he came out the next day. He was very good. He completed the job in about an hour and everything has been working since then. But I had one in the past that I almost left American Home Shield. It was a problem that dragged out for months. I was having service and they called, because it was a related service that they added an additional service. They got the approval code for that. They ended up sending two different companies so they billed me the $75 twice. So I called back and told them that I have this approval code and that they approved it to add it to the original one. Every time I called, they would agree and say that it was incorrect, but then they couldn’t resolve it. And it went on for months.
I tried to escalate it. It got to the point of being bizarre because I would talk to people at AHS and I would insist on talking to a manager, and they would hang up on me. I absolutely had enough and I was gonna leave AHS completely. Finally, I called the main customer service number through the normal means. I told them what was going on, and then they sent me to somebody else who finally resolved the issue.

My niece who has a master’s degree in teaching told me about AHS because with them, she doesn’t have time to worry. She said she'd I highly recommend AHS because when her air conditioner went out, the techs were there the next day and fixed it. I decided to go with them as well because we’ve been here 20 years, we’re 69 years old, we don’t have that kind of time or energy.
My first experience with them was with the air conditioner. The fan would go off and on, yet the air conditioner was still running, but not blowing any air. I called them and the first two men they sent out here had no experiences to what they were doing. And it was in the middle of summer. I’m not an air conditioning expert but I knew it was the fan. I told them that they needed to replace the fan in the attic but they wouldn’t go up there. They said it was working fine while they were here, but I told them that it went off and on throughout the day and the evening.
Aside from that, one of the techs said that he was gonna be here at 2:30 o’clock and I was waiting for him in the family room, but it was almost quarter to 3 o’clock when he came. He didn’t call ahead like they do now saying they'd be in your house within an hour and they tell you how you could track them. The company that AHS was using back then was very inadequate. Plus, a kid was answering the phone and didn't know what he was doing. So, I told him he needed to give his full attention to all his customers.
In the end, I just called my old air conditioning friend that I have known for years. He came out here and replaced the fan. He said he was gonna put up a larger fan because if they were to come, they would have put the same size in. So, he did that and gave me a bill. Then, I canceled my contract with American Home Shield. But the next day, the recruitment department called me and the lady was very nice. She wanted to know what had happened, so I told her. She asked me to fax her the bill and they would reimburse me entirely because they didn't wanna lose me as a customer. She also said that she was glad that I told them about the company that they were using in the Phoenix Metro area because they've got other complaints as well similar to mine.
Recently, whe washing machine was leaking and AHS sent a man out here in two days because it wasn’t urgent. We could still use it, but we had to mop everything when we ran it. So, he was very thorough. He called to ask what model it was as well as the serial number because he wanted to make sure he had the right pump. Apparently, he’d been doing that for years, which was good. And when he got here, he took the agitator apart and looked at it, then he ran a load with no clothes in it and he could see that the tumbler was off balance when it would spin.
So, he took the agitator off, looked underneath, and replaced the six plastic little inserts that hold the agitator in place. But he said that the issue was with the pump, so he'd replace the pump. After that, we ran two loads and I put the washing machine on the long spin, and it stopped leaking. He also checked the drain to see if the leak was coming out of the drain, and it wasn’t. So, he was here for an hour then everything was fine.
AHS also sent people to work on the toilet in the master bedroom where the water kept running though it was overflowing. The first guy that came out was in a real hurry and he seemed interested in what he was doing, but he didn’t see the whole thing out. But the other man that came after him was older and more experienced. You could tell that he really cared about what he was doing and he replaced the entire inside of the tank. He sat there and flushed it several times to make sure it was working and wasn’t gonna overflow. Also, when my water heater went out and started leaking, AHS sent someone out here the next day. he was very thorough. And the company called me and said that the heater was entirely covered, but Home Shield would not cover the new pipes to bring it up to code.
As for customer service, when I called about the toilet, I spoke to a lady in the Philippines and I could not understand a word she was saying. She was trying so hard and it wasn’t her fault. When I asked for a supervisor that speaks English fluently, she said okay then she started talking like the Grand Canyon state. My wife said that she was not focused but I told her that the rep was just trying to be cute and talkative. Then after, I asked a guy from AHS why they had people on the phone trying to help their American customers when they couldn't speak English very well. And he didn’t really have an answer. I felt bad for them. It's ugly mark on customer service for Home Shield. Sad, but true. Other than that, if one of American Home Shield's customers refers someone and they go with them on contract to cover their home, AHS should give the one that referred them a bonus of some sort.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for 10 years and I have recommended them. Submitting claims has not been a problem. You can call, or go online and put it in. Either way, it's efficient but I prefer to call because I have six accounts. I had a claim on my furnace and it went well. The contractor they sent was great, very professional and informative.

I called when the dryer stopped working and Whirlpool came. They fixed it for me so it’s working now. The guy who actually came in was pretty nice and he knew what he was doing. In fact, the contractors that American Home Shield sends are really great. I just really wanna talk with American Home Shield about signing another one-year contract with them, renewing and reducing my monthly premium. But other than that, everything is really fine with them. I have no issues with them now.

I’m happy with American Home Shield. I would definitely go with them again, for sure. The person who sold the house to me purchased it and then I decided to go with the two-year plan. In my latest claim, the contractor, Frontier Appliance Repair was on-time, prompt and knowledgeable. But in the last call I made, where I decided to do a cash-out option and ended up buying a new dishwasher, I got transferred from one person to another seven times.

We've had several problems with our washing machine and the techs have come right back out. The contractor that has come the last two times has been awesome. I’m still having a couple of issues, but he told me that if this time didn’t fix it, let them know because the work that they do is under warranty.

With AHS, I like that if I have something bad happen, I still pay only $75. With my downstairs heating system, that was trial error until they finally got the repair. If I had to do it, I might as well buy a new one. More recently, R.J. Wiggins Electrical, AHS' contractor came and knew what my heating problem was right away. It was the switch and I told him not to go anywhere until I heard my system go poof. He flipped the switch on and my system went poof and my heat was on. So far, AHS' contractors have done their job. I'm happy with them.

I had a plumbing issue one time and I called American Home Shield. However, it took too long for them to answer the phone. It was almost 20 minutes waiting for someone to answer. That didn't make me happy. Also, AHS penny-pinches too much every time we need something replaced. They don’t really honor giving me the best stuff that you need for your house. When we need something, it takes approval two or three times for them to honor something from the contractor. They should get originals instead of the generic parts that they’re giving us. Still, the service thereafter was good for my plumbing claim and their contractor took care of the problem.

This is my first home that I purchased years ago and two months into the house, the ceiling started dripping. The inspection didn't do a full inspection of the house and they didn’t go up in the attic to see how bad the drip pan was. When I moved in, it started leaking from the ceiling so I had a mess here in the second floor. American Home Shield sent a contractor out and the rep was very informative. He told me about maintenance stuff for the house and what to look for.
I had the drip pan replaced and cleaned, and there was an issue with that being clogged again. He took a picture of that and he recommended a coil cleaning on both systems, installing an overflow safety switch, Armaflex insulation on outside suction line, and upstairs unit secondary drain pan treatment to prevent leak, because it's rusting. He said that AHS will have a copy of his recommendations but it would be up to me to have additional work done if I wanted to. I said that I will AHS as a follow-up because I want to get these things fixed. AHS has been very helpful and their customer service is always excellent.

I keep getting emails from American Home Shield asking me to join, and I keep saying that I'm already a member so stop emailing me. My recent HTG claim couldn't have gone any better though. I was on the website and contacted them. I've had them in the past so I didn't expect any issues, and there weren't any. Everything went just as smooth as it could be and I was very pleased with it. Immediately thereafter, I got a call back saying a guy was coming out. I couldn't meet him at the time he was supposed to come out, so he made it two days later and that was perfect for me. And when he came out, he was very knowledgeable and friendly.

When I called in my leaking sink, I was told that the contractor will communicate with me, but some direction of what happens next in terms of saying, "We sent it to the contractor," would have given me a timeframe of when to expect something. I ended up calling the contractor since I was in a hurry. But everything else was great. The contractor who came was great. They also had a warranty and would come back within a certain amount of time if the issue wasn't fixed, which I love. I've had a great experience with American Home Shield.

We have been with American Home Shield since January when we bought our condo. The toilet started leaking, and I found out that the previous owner had installed some ceramic tile that was too thick. As a result, they did not get a really good seal with the wax ring. So, it cost us a bit to go back there and have that repaired. The tech who handled the issue did a great job then. More recently, the tech from Budget Heating, Cooling & Plumbing was here on time for a cleaning and an inspection. He got the furnace all checked out and gave it a clean bill of health in about 20 minutes. It was great.

When my refrigerator quit working, I used American Home Shield's website to do a claim and it was really easy. I like it. It took about two weeks to get somebody out, but that's because I couldn’t be there. It would have been sooner. I was just gone in one of the days they could have come and I worked the rest of the week. So, still, it was very timely. Their contractor was very professional, easy to talk to and really knowledgeable on everything. I also used American Home Shield when I was getting my locks re-keyed, and that went really well too. The guy was awesome and very helpful.

I bought an older house and I was iffy of buying it. But now that I got the AHS warranty, in case something happens, it makes me feel a little bit more confident. I have problems with this pipe that my washer machine discharges the water when it rinses, and it keeps on clogging, but I have more issues with the pipe than we're expecting. So, the guy from Steinberg is coming back today to look at it. He was before and I'm very satisfied with him. He's a great guy. In fact, I chose him over somebody else because he's been out here before for other things too. When I first went with American Home Shield with my plumbing issue, the one that they recommended that I automatically receive that I did refuse on was A & A, and I didn't like the reviews. So, I called American Shield back and I told them I wanted somebody else, and they recommended him and I've had him ever since.
I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. I would recommend it because it's kind of a comfort knowing that if you do have an issue, you can reach out to them and they can recommend someone that has good experience. Anybody that I've used through American Shield was okay. I had the guy come out here for my refrigerator. He helped me with my hot water heater too. That thing works fine now, so it's great.

We filed a claim the 29th of August 2019 and there is still no resolution. Today is November 22, 2019. After paying the fee to open a claim, dozens of phone calls, and three different plumbing companies coming to our home the only thing we have is a shower that can't be used due to a leak, three holes in our walls they authorized to be made to diagnose the problem, and incredible frustration. We have been told so many time "We will call you back within 24 hrs" with no call back, I've lost count. Needless to say, the money paid for this home warranty was a huge waste for the sellers of the home we bought, and a huge disappointment for us. Next contact will be the state consumer protection and insurance regulation departments.

It got colder out. We didn’t think we had heat and we had some guy come by. I submitted a claim online. The website was pretty straightforward but I couldn’t see what my options were. I wish I could see that it had more options. But I liked that there was a choice and I think I chose well. When I did the Home Shield warranty system for the first time, it gave me a choice of who I could choose and I chose the Oaks group because they had the highest rating. I liked that. The tech looked at the unit and said it was our thermostat. The Oaks guy was excellent. He replaced the thermostat and they didn't put in a comparable unit but I think it's fine. Also, we were thrilled because we had heat right away and it was cold.

I wasn't too happy that American Home Shield didn't pay no more on what they did on the unit. This is the second unit in a year that I bought and nobody ever followed up with me on the first one, and I had a supervisor involved. It says in my contract that they would replace, but I don't know why they didn't pay no more than $1,000. The way my policy reads that they would take care of that, and then I wind up paying $3,000 on each unit. I don't know what the stipulations was but evidently, they must have paid for whatever and I'm paying all the other stuff. But I really don't care at this point. It's done.
They could've explained to me a little bit better why they weren't paying no more than they did, when I pay a fee every month for about 20 years. Nobody called me back. The first supervisor never did any follow-up with me. He never called me back to have the courtesy of saying how they did it and what was not covered. But Rapp's is a good company, so I ask for them every time. I don't like the unit they put out there and it looks bulky away from my house. I don't like that it was far away from my house.

My dishwasher went out and the guy who came was great and I was happy with him. He checked the dishwasher and he said it could be fixed but he would see if he could find the part, and they weren't able to. It was a Bosch and apparently, it’s not a very good brand to buy because they don't continue to make parts for it. American Home Shield decided that they needed to replace my dishwasher and the second group who came out had three guys with them. They installed my dishwasher and set it to run. As they left, it was running and after it ran, I went to load it up. As I started loading the dishwasher, it literally fell out of my cabinet.
When I pulled the drawers out to put dishes in it, it fell forward. They just put it there and didn't bolt it in. For the second group of people, I had already given positive feedback so, I wasn't happy with that. They didn't know what they were doing. I couldn't even pull the drawers out to load it because it would fall forward and fall out of the cabinet. American Home Shield might need to look at the second group of people that came. The three guys didn't even have all the tools they needed and my husband had to find some tools for them. But other than that, everything was great. The third guy came and bolted in the dishwasher, and he was very knowledgeable.

The reps were professional, but it was a little hard to understand the language barrier because they were in the Philippines. Trying to explain to them what I needed was a little challenging. And then it was a little frustrating when they did not know some of the answers to questions and putting me on-hold. But we were able to get someone here. The plumber snaked the toilet, but what needed to be done was pull the toilet from the wall. But he didn't do that. I ended up having to call another plumber and pay them $200.

I’ve used both methods of submitting claims and I much prefer online. It's a much smoother process overall and I feel that if I call, their first line phone people may not understand my English well. So, it’s a lot easier for me to do it online and American Home Shield has been very responsive.
I got Post Plumbing come out because of a leak underneath my kitchen sink, and they replaced a missing or degraded coupler. But the contractors working on my foundation identified more issues with cracks along the pipes that should’ve been replaced as well at the same time. Unfortunately, it had been more than 30 days since Post Plumbing had been there to address it through American Home Shield. So, I paid a second deductible to fix the same issue and Salinas Valley Plumbing came out. Efren and Lalo are fabulous and we shall absolutely keep using them.

The washing machine was leaking from the back. Home Shield sent JR Appliance Service. The guy who came out was really helpful in telling me everything on what to do. Everything was good with them. The only thing is I have to call Home Shield and try to get my payment back for me paying out of pocket. I couldn’t find the right washing machine for the same price. I had to pay a little bit more money. But overall, it was a great experience.

Our first experience wasn't that good. We had somebody come out, and he took advantage of us so we ended up getting another plumber. I didn't go through American Home Shield and I went to get my own, and then the company said they could only pay $19, so I wasn't real happy about that. But since then, I've called American Home Shield. We had some additional plumbing work done, and that was a good experience. We also had people come out to check our heating and air conditioner for the winter, and that was a good experience as well. Elements came out for our heating claim. They've done their work and they did it quickly and efficiently, and we're happy with them. They made sure everything was functional and they told us that everything was okay.

My shut off valve to the main to the house was going bad. Luckily, it was just slow leaking. The contractor from 2 Sons Plumbing did a great job. He was on time, showed up when he was supposed to, had good customer service, was very polite and very nice, and he was also very fast and good about what he did. I was looking for a coverage on my personal home, and I knew that this wasn’t gonna be tax-deductible. If it had been a rental property, that would be different. So price was a major concern, and I want full coverage over everything. Usually policies cost between $600, $700 with $75 upfront cost that I had to pay. With American Home Shield it came down to half price. I could cover everything, and the policy is 450. And it just means that I have to pay $100 instead of $75 upfront.
Everything was great when they sent Calhoun Construction. I called AHS and the rep was very polite, very helpful and did everything I needed them to do to set up the appointment. Making the appointment was no problem, and the technician came out exactly during the time period that was arranged and was able to take care of the problem.

I had two recent claims with American Home Shield. One was where there was a problem in the temperature, and then the second was we assumed it was a leak but it was not. We just called their hotline and then we were scheduled. They gave us a time frame and it was done on the specific time frame. Pride AC & Heating Service came out and provided us with good service. The unit is now working okay. Our experience was good and I would recommend AHS.

American Home Shield is doing fine so far. We recently had a couple of fan motors out and we had no air or heat. Indoor Comfort Experts called me the next morning and the tech was courteous. They scheduled the appointment for the next day, and they called me 30 minutes before they were gonna arrive and they were right on time. It took him about half an hour to diagnose it and he was gone. They had to order a blower motor for the upstairs unit. The part took about three or four days to come in and then he was right back out and he got it replaced real quick.

Lance from Intercity Plumbing was awesome. That company was great and it was probably one of the best experiences I've had with American Home Shield. I've also called AHS for the appliances twice and the first contractor was no good. Then, I met Garrett's and he fixed it. This last time, with my microwave, AHS called another contractor, whom I had a problem with, then Garrett's called me again and they came to fix the problem. The guy who came out and did my microwave was good. The company they had before was very snobby and unprofessional. They were a bunch of liars and they said they were going to come to my house but they never showed up. I called them, and then they called American Home Shield telling them that I told them I was going to kick their butt. I would not even use them. I do not know why AHS would use them if they are going to be doing stuff like that. Also, as far as AHS' time in getting back to you, it has been poor.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and they contacted me with an email in less than 10 minutes. Merrill Building came out to patch some holes in my drywall that was made by the plumber that was sent to fix the leak. The contractor and the plumber who was sent out were both outstanding. He took his time and listened to my concerns. He had the right tools to listen for the leak. He went up in the attic, didn’t see it, and then he listened for it and traced it down to the exact spot. He made one hole and it was a small one.

He checked it and said that it was running and he did not know what he was supposed to do. He said it looked a little dirty, so he changed a filter.

Our heater went out. It is an oil furnace so it went out and it's cold, so we're trying to get it fixed. The first contractor that came out was not familiar with oil furnaces at all. They showed up and they looked at it and they said that they didn't know anything about oil furnaces. So then they left. We had to schedule for a new contractor to come out. The first interaction was not good. American Home Shield sent a second contractor who came out a few days later. And then the second contractor said that there was an issue with some sediment in our oil lines. And for that reason, since our tank is underground, that's not covered under American Home Shield. So he told us that the company can give an above ground tank and get new lines. It's like $3,200 but it would not be covered by American Home Shield.
As a direct result, I called another HVAC company that's local, that I trust, and that is not associated with American Home Shield at all. And they told me that they find it hard to believe that the lines are completely blocked and they're coming out today to take a look at it. Ultimately, if we have to replace the tank and the line and it's not covered by American Home Shield, I'd rather go with a company that I know and trust rather than a subcontractor from somewhere else. My wife and I have already discussed getting rid of American Home Shield and finding a new home warranty company as soon as the year's over.

The people that did the heater were perfect. That was spot on, professional, perfect. They did it quickly and they were very polite while they did their business. Our experience with this one was good but the last experience wasn’t all that swift. I didn’t feel comfortable with the people that we were dealing with. I got another quote from another company to take care of our water leak and the quote that these people came up with was three times the amount. It just didn’t feel right. It felt like they were shifty.
AHS should work on the timeliness of their repairs. The first repair that I had with the dryer a year ago, it took a lot longer than it really should have. When you have kids and the clothes pile up, there’s no way you can sit for two weeks without doing clothes. So, we were going to the laundromat, whereas if I would have called a repair company directly, I’m sure they would have gotten it done twice as fast. Because I've used a different one in our area, not the same problem but something similar, and the problem was rectified a lot quicker. So, AHS should expedite their service.

My refrigerator wasn’t working and American Home Shield sent someone out. They had to order a part, the part came in and they put it on but it didn’t work. They had to reorder the part. They came back and put it on but it didn’t work again. After that, we opted to get the money for the refrigerator so that we could get something else. I pay AHS money monthly and nothing is resolved on the first visit. It’s always a hurry up and wait. That started October 6th and then by the time it was resolved, we were into November.
I would like to not have to wait for a part to come in and I would like the companies that they send out have equipment to use to fix the problem. Every time we make a claim, we have to wait. We recently had a problem with a burner on our stove and we told the company that the information was incorrect, and whatever manufacturer the stove was, that they had to order this other part and not the part that it told them to order because we experienced that. But they did not listen to us. We knew that if they ordered the part on the diagram that it was gonna be the wrong part. We waited for that part to come in and for them to come out to look at it to see that it was wrong. It was four visits to fix one problem and I can’t stand that about it. If it were up to me, I’d cancel American Home Shield.

So far AHS has done an awesome job. Highland Home Services sent a smart kid. He did more than the air conditioner company did when we called them out. He had his act together and was very helpful. AHS has been very attentive. I love their service.

We have a hot water tank that is about 7 years old and wasn’t putting out any hot water. I called AHS and then they sent out Drain Masters. The technician who came here was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. I like him a lot. He’s been out to my house before on another issue. But he couldn’t come back ‘cause there were a couple of days that I wasn’t gonna be able to be home when he could come by. So, it was a back and forth between him and I. But he came out when he could and we got it done. There was something about a part and he didn’t have what he needed but he got that taken care of. He put it in when he came back, and I’m just hunky dory.

I had to have a circulating pump replaced. Everything went great. I’m not thrilled that I had to pay out-of-pocket, though. American Home Shield paid for the pump, but they didn’t pay for the labor. Also, we had an air conditioner go out, and they paid like 1,500 out of the 14,000 that it cost us. It is what it is. But I would like them to cover more of it.
The plumber was pretty good. They did cancel on me. They said they got the part in, then the day of the installation, they said it was the wrong part. I feel like they got a better plumbing contract with somebody, and then they put us off. But other than that, I was really happy with the guys. The two times that they did come, they were on-time, prompt and did a good job.
The claim was open for at least two weeks. My husband wasn’t pleased with the timeframe. He said, “If we called the plumber, it would’ve been done.” He doesn’t feel like it’s done in a prompt fashion. When the air-conditioning went out, it took months to resolve. And we live in the desert. It’s 115 degrees. Luckily, we had a house to go to in cooler climate. He feels value for the money, ultimately, but there’s always the delay. And he feels we’re not a priority and that they’re gonna take someone who doesn’t have a home warranty over us. Also, AHS doesn’t cover our pool because it’s saltwater. Other home warranties seem to cover that.

During the most recent cold front, it dropped down below freezing and our thermostat quit functioning. The guy came out with equipment that would substitute for our defective thermostat and told us that in 24 to 48 hours, he would be back with a better-quality thermostat that would be simpler but would fit our needs, which they did. He also went upstairs and looked at our heater to make sure it was not the heater malfunctioning. He knows that the 15-year old heater unit needed a replacement part that would help remedy a whole lot of residues left in the heater as it comes off and on. We were very happy with the service from the contractor as well as with American Home Shield. We've been with them for 30 years. My wife and I got married seven years ago and we combined our efforts to keep AHS in mind in case these emergencies occur. They’ve got a great program and it’s well worth our while in monthly fee.

Filing a claim was easy. I've used AHS twice, and each time, it's been fine. All the things I did were covered and I had a service charge for the guy to come out. I had a plumbing issue where I smelled gas. The contractor checked and they didn't find anything but their service was good and they were prompt.

Claims submission with AHS has been very easy. I go through the website, submit the claim and then I have to pay $100 in advance, and then the rest they take care of. This is my second year and AHS has been good at their job. Hopefully, they will continue doing so. I had an issue with the ac and AHS sent an experienced technician and he found the problem. Then they checked with American Home Shield for the confirmation of replacing the parts. After two days they came over and replaced it, and the ac works properly after that.

The water was not discharged with the dishwasher so I filed a claim online. Stella Appliance Company came out after a day and it was pretty good with the tech. It has been good so far with Home Shield.

I called in a claim for a microwave to American Home Shield and they sent Appliance Superheroes. The tech who came was pleasant and cordial. He checked out what parts he needed, came back like two weeks later and fixed my microwave. So far, my microwave has been good.

I spoke to an American Home Shield representative because they made a courtesy call about a week after receiving my application. During the call, I said I bought a house that had a furnace that was over 20 years old, and I was concerned about the condition. They recommended that I have a furnace inspection, so they arranged it. North State Mechanical had two guys out and they were both very knowledgeable. They did what seemed to be a thorough inspection and fortunately, they found no problems. They had answers for all of my questions and I was real happy with the results of their visit. I recommended it to the buyers of the house, and they got the coverage.

I called American Home Shield when I was having a leak in my pool, and the guy that came out was efficient and he resolved the issue. On a claim I had before, though, they replaced a microwave with one that's not of the same size so it doesn't operate very well. It takes two hands to open it. But this time, everything is operating well and there is no more leak. I was really satisfied.

I've been with American Home Shield for two and a half years and I've liked their quick response. Also, I've found that submitting claims online is both quicker and easier. When Star Services came out, they were on time, professional, and polite. They got the job kinda done quickly and fixed one thing. However, there’s more going on so I’ve gotta call them back. Also, they will revisit within a certain time period.

It has been fantastic, always has been and will be, with American Home Shield. I had the problem with my air conditioner and the fan on it would not stop running. I called the 800 number and I talked to a representative. I got a great response time. The problem was unusual and it took some major troubleshooting. The contractor found the problem and corrected it, and amazingly quick when figuring it out and getting it fixed ‘cause they had parts for it, and it’s working great.
The same company has been out to repair my air conditioner several times through AHS. I know them by first-name basis and they're a great company. Everything has been working perfectly since. I recommend American Home Shield regularly to other people. It saved me and my wife. It’s an endeavor that we’re glad we have and it has paid for itself repeatedly by having it.
