Save your money. My husband and I have been swindled! We have lost hundreds of dollars on spoiled food. Several hours waiting on hold. A refrigerator that has been broken for a year. They magically lose the records that every service person has told them the appliance needs to be replaced. Today I called to speak with a supervisor. I told them I wanted it resolved or my membership canceled. They laughed at me! And then hung up on me. This is a fraudulent business. Do. Not. Purchase.
Tiffany,

I've been in this home for four years and I got the wrong warranty. So, when I found out about AHS that my friend was telling me about, it was the one I was supposed to have been with. I called them and asked questions, and they answered all of them. I wanted to make sure I was with the right agency at the time and I was. I like them so far. I've only been with them for a little bit of time but the issue was taken care of very quickly. I called the contractor and they came out a day later. Then, they did what they had to do.
The technician from Peyton was very professional. He took his time and made sure that the issue would be solved, and he did everything he could. He knew what he was doing. He thought it was one problem and he ordered another piece. When that piece didn't work, he said that it might be the compressor and even if that gets fixed, it might be something else because it smells like Freon inside the refrigerator. The issue was not resolved and I was sent something for a whole new refrigerator because he said with the compressor and everything that’s going on with it, it might be a new refrigerator. I put in an order for that and American Home Shield is supposed send me a new refrigerator. I'm waiting for them to send me a date.

American Home Shield has gotten a lot worse over the years. When we first got them four years ago when we bought the house, our contract fee per month was only $45, and it's jumped up $30 in the last four years. Our service fee for someone to come out and to fix everything is $100. Now that they're taxing it, it's $109. They've never taxed it before, so I don't know why they're taxing it now. The guy also couldn't explain to me why they're taxing it. On the other hand, our dishwasher stopped working. It had no power to it, so I called and the rep was fine.
Appliance 911 then texted us within 24 hours and they were great. They had trouble trying to figure out what was going on with our dishwasher though. They replaced one part and it still wasn't working, so they had to come back out one more time. The guy still couldn't figure out what was going on. He was out there that last time for four hours, and he ended up having to google what was going on with it and figured out how to get it to work. Now, it's fine. Appliance 911 goes above and beyond for their customer and I like them a lot.

One of my copper pipes burst or sprung a leak, and was squirting all over my garage. I went online to submit the claim to American Home Shield, and just pointed and clicked. I emailed my problem and they emailed me back to say that this person would be coming to my house at such date and time. Then, I got another text on my phone saying so and so was on his way. That was all cut and dry. The technician had a white truck and it was clean. He was professionally dressed, and he was clean and had a mask. He also kept his distance. I showed him the issue and he said he would take care of it and that he would knock on the door when it was done. And 20 minutes later, he did. I had a bunch of wet towels that I had used and he spread them all out on the garage so they could dry. He went above and beyond. I was very impressed.

Besides not getting my AC fixed earlier this year, everything has been great. The contractors answer any questions I have and they’re fast. I am usually satisfied with the work too. One time, I scheduled a service for my refrigerator through the website. The first people that American Home Shield sent didn’t work, so I called and told them then they sent My Tek out. They were professional and they got the refrigerator fixed, which made me happy. It wasn't making ice and I like ice when I drink my drinks.

There was a Keurig coffeemaker in the refrigerator and we didn't think it was working. When I tried it, I didn't get but a little bit of water and it said it wasn't heating the water properly. It was easy to alert American Home Shield about it and I had an appointment with Sears within a day. Sears services my stuff all the time. Overall, American Home Shield is very good.

American Home Shield wasn't beneficial at all. I was paying the $75 service fee multiple times to them and I got people coming out. But I'd still have to pay the rest to come out ‘cause nothing was actually covered. I've had them for a year and I've had it at my previous house also. When I first got the house, the bathtub upstairs was leaking. The guy who came out got on the ceiling and said that everything was good. But it wasn't good so I decided to call again.
The whole process on my AC claim was garbage. I talked to the American Home Shield guy and told him that the issue with the AC was probably Freon. I asked if they'd do Freon 'cause if it was not covered then I didn't want the technician to come out and tell me that it was freon and I'd just be spending 75 bucks. Then the guy said that Freon was covered. So they sent the guy out. The guy got out here and he said that home warranty would only cover $10 of Freon and it'd cost me $1,000 to have this thing filled. So this was worthless. I just paid $75 for nothing. I just let it ride 'cause my contract is up and I don’t worry about working with American Home Shield anymore.

I put in what they needed in their website for my water heater claim and within an hour, I had a callback that the guys are gonna be on their way. Then they got here right away so it was great. I didn't take off the second level of the cover door and I couldn't see a flame with the first level off and I thought I didn't have a flame. I thought the thing was off. So when the contractor got here, they took off the first plastic layer and I also had to take off the next layer, and there was the flame. But there wasn't anything wrong with it. I spent $120 for nothing. But the run through was a good experience and I know about the company now. So if I need somebody else, I'll know where I can call them. It all worked very well. I really appreciated it.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback.

Our most recent claim was a bathroom stoppage and an electrical problem. Both techs were good. They fixed the issue. The problem I have with my rental property is the contractor came out and said that the refrigerator needed to be replaced. Because it was my tenant, it took them so long to replace it. I still don't know if they replaced it. As of last week, they didn't replace it. I'm not sure what is going on with it. The other was with the water stoppage. All the toilets were stopped up, so I couldn't flush the toilets and run the water. Because it was on a Saturday, the contractor couldn't come out to look at it until Tuesday. I kept calling. It had to be a workday. It was an emergency. I thought they were supposed to come out and try to fix it at least within 24 hours, but it took four days. However, I would still recommend Home Shield. They still did it.
We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us and thanks for recommending us. Enjoy your day.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield is 100% simple. I either do it online or I call. Whatever I do, I always get an immediate response. AHS needs to drop the cost but other than that, it's a very good company.
When we first moved here, we had problems with the ventilation. Being new to the house, I didn't notice that they had the vents by the window. But I didn't feel there was enough air coming out of the vents. So, we called AHS and they had somebody come out. The guy came in and I told him the problem. So, he put the little wand thing up there to test the air and said that I had enough air out here. What I needed to do was to get something on my windows and put up some shutters. I said that I was gonna get that, but I wanna know if I had enough air coming out because I felt I’m hot in this room. He said no and that when we built the home, these stupid people put the things on the window. So, he was rude. I reported that and they haven’t used him since.
When I call AHS for plumbing issues or anything like that, I make sure that it’s not that company. And it wasn’t. The rest of them who came after that was perfect. The people were very professional and made sure they did a thorough job. They asked if we had any questions, gave us a card and told us to call AHS if we have any problems and they would come back.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

I did a claim to American Home Shield for the boiler. The contractor inspected it and then it turned on. They were good. They opened the panel and then they checked it out. We submitted a claim online recently with American Home Shield and the website was good. American Home Shield let us know everything that they could on their end and it was on point to an extent. But with the contractors, there was some confusion. He came out and did the initial inspection of it, but he never submitted anything. So we had to call back four times to figure out what the issue was. They re-submitted the paperwork and then they had to wait on parts to come in. So, what could've taken a week took about three weeks. But everything's good. The stove that they put in works great. The guy that came and put it in did a great job. I also like the convenience of AHS. I just pay the deductible and they send somebody. For houses where everything is slowly going out of warranty, like those seven-year-old houses, it's good to have a back-up plan.

Whenever I have a problem, I just log on to my account online and select what the issue is, and go from there. Once I submit for a service call, Home Shield lines me up with a local vendor and they would either communicate through text messages or phone calls within probably a 24-hour period. It has been a pleasant experience so far.
My door would randomly not operate properly. I could close and open it. Sometimes I would leave the house or go outside, but when I would come back and try to open the door, it wouldn’t open. And every time I hit the button, I could hear a buzzing noise. Talking to the #1 Garage Door technician, he said it sounded like a capacitor issue, meaning that the power was getting to the capacitor, but it wasn't going from the capacitor to the actual motor. And that's what I was hearing with that buzzing. They replaced the capacitor, and I haven't had a problem since. They replaced all the parts back to the mechanism like it was before.
I had an air conditioning company come out earlier in the year and it was the same with them. They were very professional, knowledgeable, and explained the issues while I was having the issues. Overall, I've been pleased with it. At first, I didn't know if I could really trust the company Home Shield was setting me up with because I haven't used local companies before and have been pleased with it. But after going through the process, I haven't had an issue to complain about the vendors that they've used.

I had an issue back in the summer with my air conditioner. It was a 90-degree day in Alabama and the company couldn’t come for two days or until maybe the next day. So, I found a company locally who could come the next day. I called and said that I have this warranty that I've had over the years that I've never used. I asked if American Home Shield could reimburse me for what they would have paid on my claim and they said they don’t do that. That was not good customer service for me. They wanted me to suffer through extreme heat conditions and/or get a hotel room when I found someone who could do the job much sooner than whoever the authorized contractor was that wasn't available in a timely manner for me as a customer.
I tried to follow up with AHS to get a quote on the work that I had done but I haven't had a chance to follow through because I've been really busy and out of town. I did plan to follow up with that. It’s straightforward to submit a claim but you don’t get a timely response because the contractor that the company uses must be the cheapest. So, if those people are booked up, I have to suffer until that company becomes available. If AHS wanna help the customer, they should offer fast and friendly service. In a situation like mine, they could give the rate if I have to seek somebody outside of their contractors. They cover this amount and I pay the rest. That's the way I thought it would work.
At that point, I have spent over $700 paying American Home Shield and I never used it, and then I had to pay another 320 bucks back in July to fix my AC. My plan was to cancel but then, when I needed my dryer fixed, the guy was able to come out the next day and he did a great job. He was able to help me. My mom had American Home Shield at first and it sounded great until you're locked within the contractors that they offer. They don't give you the flexibility to operate outside of that. This warranty company that I thought would help me have their own rules. They would help you but they're using Mr. Cheap Guy and if he's booked up, he can't get around to you in a timely manner. So, it’s tough. I didn't like that at all.

I kept my stove on like the man did. I was trying to see where the burner was going out for the oven and it happened as soon as he left. Although I recorded it and then showed it to him, whoever he spoke to said since it didn’t happen in front of him, American Home Shield had to send somebody else back out. There was no need for me to lie because I couldn't even get an hour out of my oven. Right now, the only thing I can do is cook on the top. I can’t bake any of my food.
I have a lot of family members that have American Home Shield, while only a couple of them do not. I heard good reviews about American Home Shield, so out of everybody, I went with it. Right now though, I might stop it if this is what's gonna be happening. I did everything the man said. I made a video and sent it to him, but he said that since he already left, I would have to wait ‘til American Home Shield sent somebody else out like they said. That's what they told him, but nobody from a different company called me. American Home Shield didn’t contact me either.
Also, my refrigerator is making a buzzing noise and it only happens every two hours. When the technician came here this morning, he couldn’t hear the noise. I told him it had just went and he tried to stay as long as possible to hear the refrigerator go. Still, he couldn't do anything about it to fix it, which I understand ‘cause if I can't hear it, I don't know the problem.

My AC wasn't working, so I called AHS. It was already evening, so they told me that somebody would call me in the morning. The next morning, I got a call from the contractor and they made an appointment. They gave me a time frame, which was nice because I was at work. They also gave me 30 minutes notice when they were on their way. I came home, the person was here, and he fixed my AC. I left again to go to work. When I came back home in the evening, the AC wasn't working again. So I gave American Home Shield a call. Again, it was already after hours, so I was concerned that it would be the weekend and here in Florida you need the AC. But they told me that on Saturday somebody would call me. I asked if the person works on weekends but they couldn't tell me for sure. On Saturday, I got a call, was given a time frame, and the person came and took care of it.
But even though AHS is open 24/7 and I can call them anytime with my issue, it sounds like for them to send us a technician, if it's after 5:00 or on weekends, you have to pay $50 extra. And for something like an AC, you need prompt service, so I was concerned. But thankfully, the technician worked in this area that Saturday with his son. I lucked out that he happened to be working and he came. But when I went to sleep that Friday night, I was worried that I had to wait until Monday because I didn't know that I wanted to pay the extra $50. I'm already paying the membership and I already paid the $100. Despite that, my first experience was great and hopefully, I don't have issues after hours or on weekends that I have to pay the extra.
All in all, AHS is a new service to me, but I wasn't disappointed and I'm very glad that I signed up. And the nice thing is that you can cancel anytime. I know people who have the warranty and some people have great things to say, while others have not so great things to say about them. But that was not because of American Home Shield, it was more about the contractors that they use.

I put in a request for my dryer, microwave, and refrigerator all at the same time. But AHS didn't tell me that I could put a service request on more than one appliance at a time. Also, they kept sending the claim for all three appliances to Naab & Mohring. But Naab & Mohring told them that they don't deal with General Electric products and that they should get back to them again. Stupidly, they sent it back to Naab & Mohring after they had already been aware that that vendor doesn't deal with General Electric products.
Then, I had to wait an additional week and a half before my dryer got fixed because they kept sending the whole order to Naab & Mohring. They finally decided to split the order, send the dryer to Naab & Mohring, and send my other two products to General Electric. Naab & Mohring was great. My dryer was making a loud screeching noise but since they came out, it's been fixed. General Electric came out as well and diagnosed my refrigerator and my microwave. They've ordered parts for my microwave but nobody has come back yet to put them on.
I sent text messages to their technician this morning letting him know that the parts are here. I asked when are they coming back but I still haven't received a response. So, I don't know where I really stand. Until now, my refrigerator and microwave still remain unfixed. The claim dates back to the beginning of October and it's now the end of October going into November. AHS hasn't even called me to follow up on it, but they made sure they notified that I owed them $108.
I canceled my subscription with Sears Home Warranty to come to American Home Shield, and they're all horrible to me. When I signed on to American Home Shield, they were also aware that I was canceling Sears Home Warranty to join with them. But once I got on board with American Home Shield, I found out that they are using the same vendors that Sears are using, so it was pointless. I could’ve kept my warranty with Sears. Their customer service horrible. You ask to speak to a manager, you never get one. You ask to speak to the dispatch team, they tell you no. As a customer, I don't think you should be denied, if anything, especially when they're taking money out of your account to keep this warranty going every month.

I had an issue with the motor going out on the outside where the compressor is. Crispy Air & Heating made arrangements to fit me in to their schedule the next day after I called them. They came right out. They then replaced the motor. The motor functions well but the compressor still makes a lot of noise. I was told by Home Shield as long as they have it functioning, that's what they were sent out there to do. I'm happy with it as it is right now because it's working. What was wrong with was the motor froze up and they fixed that.
However, the compressor is still making noise and I thought that they would have somebody take a look at the compressor at the same time as replacing the fan. It was just a generic motor, not a factory one, which is what I was told from them is what they had. They would have had to order it for a few days and it was 112 and 14 degrees in temperature when it was going on. Other than that, it was good that they made a point to get it fixed right away for me. I've had a couple of other people at my work that had Home Shield and they went in and got the same home warranty service as I have.

There was some faucet leaking. Then I thought the dials on my refrigerator lets me select the temperature was broken 'cause it never worked. It had 88 on it. The first guy that came out said that the refrigerator door was bent, that it was my fault, they would not fix it, and American Home Shield would not pay for it. I didn't know where the first company got the fact that there was a bent in the door. The door was perfect. I issued a complaint to American Home Shield already about that. I called them back. They said that they would send somebody else out, but that if it was the door that was damaged, then I would have to pay another $75 for them to come out. They sent GE out, which it’s a GE refrigerator. The only thing wrong with the refrigerator was the icemaker was broken. The guy replaced the icemaker and it all worked perfectly.
My experience with American Home Shield is great. They're always pretty much Johnny-on-the-spot. I'm so glad that we have them. If we don't need them, we spend $74 a month for nothing. But if we need them, we save a lot more than that. Everyone that I ever talked to there was so nice, polite, and cordial. They always call me back when they say they're going to. I've thoroughly enjoyed working with them. They were very professional and they saw to it that my everything was fixed in my house and it was good.

There was a plumbing issue that was backed up, and it was coming out from the tubs and the shower. I told the gal that it was a clogged plumbing issue and she was helpful, but after talking to the contractor, she said that I need to say this the next time, and so, she explained it. These little extras seem to get the service that we really needed faster, ‘cause they had to rewrite the job order. But overall, the gentleman that came out did an excellent job. I liked just paying $100 service call fee because it was a lot cheaper than calling the actual plumber and getting charged 300. We have a couple other issues that I'm gonna need to call in. Now that we have the insurance coverage, it's peace of mind.
When I first signed up for the policy, it wasn't clear. You'd think that you'd get like a printed package of what's covered. I had to go, search, seek, and ask for it versus just having it sent to me, hard copy. I like something in my file system versus that. It's like a life insurance policy. The last thing you wanna do is go looking for it. You want it to go right to it. It's sometimes hard to understand when somebody on the phone has a very thick accent. Then I call back and I'm getting a different name, but it sounds like the same person. I would ask who I am calling, it has to be internationally related. So I find that the English is okay, but the experience is not educated enough to just know what I'm talking about when I'm explaining a situation. But the service itself was really good.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

I had two claims in with AHS, one for my garbage disposal and one for the dishwasher. The garbage disposal started leaking. At first, it would stop working, and then I would hit the reset button at the bottom and put the thing in just to turn it, and then it’d start working. But then it started leaking, and it wouldn't come on anymore. It had been like that for a while. I got a strainer and put in my sink, trying to make sure no food will go down there. I did an online request with American Home Shield. The website was cool and easy to navigate. The contractors that came had masks on. However, the guy with the dishwasher came. I wish I had known that before I did it and paid that $75 ‘cause when he showed me what was wrong, I could’ve fixed it myself. But I’m satisfied with American Home Shield. I've had them ever since I’ve been in the house. I don't use them a lot, but it makes me feel good that I have them.

The claim was for a leaking shower that got into my wall. It went downstairs into my ceiling in my utility room. American Home Shield sent out a plumber and he did fix the leak. They were supposed to send out someone to do the sheetrock but no one ever showed up. We reached out but we didn't hear back so we ended up hiring a contractor to come out and do it because we have a house up for sale. We had a claim for our garage last year. The contractor couldn't fix the issue. We tried to call the contractor back but they hung up in our face. American Home Shield couldn't get us another contractor to come out and fix the garage so we ended up hiring another private contractor to come out and fix it. I invested more money into what I probably paid out. I’m disappointed in some of the issues that we had last year and this year.

In the meantime, I still have leaks and my money was taken from the bank. It looks like right now I just paid for an assessment and I'm not pleased with that. Someone else is supposed to come out on Thursday from the plumbing company and do a different assessment, but I wanna see what American Home Shield has to say. My plan is supposed to cover wear and tear. I didn't break a pipe or anything for a leak.
If you try to call them, it's hard to reach them. But that particular claim, I did do online and I did have to call them to clarify that I was talking about more than one leak. I did reach someone and someone did call me back and clarified that. I've had American Home Shield pretty much the 15 years that I've been in my home. I'm back with them recently. There was an air conditioning leak issue and the gentleman that came out for the service did an assessment on a leak outside that I thought was AC-related. The leak was something they said I would receive information about. It was something that the insurance probably wouldn't cover because of the kind of repair that would need to be done. I'm waiting for American Home Shield to send over the denial of the claim and go from there. That aside, they were great.
American Home Shield is extremely efficient and affordable. I have no complaints about the service and I really like the service providers that they ended up sending out. For the claims that I had put forth, the providers were very friendly, courteous, and very knowledgeable. They seem to send techs that really know what they're doing and they diagnose the issue. When I had a plumbing person come out, he was able to diagnose the issues in the three spots in a matter of two to three minutes. That was very good. The only thing is it would be nice if American Home Shield could expand the coverage more.

I had water under the refrigerator. A tech from Lake Area Appliance came in and found that the freezer was all frozen up. A previous repairman from another company from American Home Shield had apparently left something out of the drain. So, the tech ordered the parts and straightened it up and told us to dry it out for a couple of days. We started it back up and it ran for four days. Then all of a sudden, we had water on the floor again. The tech came back out and reinspected and found that where the water came in to go to the icemaker, water in the door was leaking. He ordered new parts and when they came in, he came back out and did the repair.
We had a previous problem with this refrigerator, and they actually started working on it on July the 6th and just finished it this last week. It had two problems that weren't connected. But everything's fine now. American Home Shield hung in there and fixed things that needed to be fixed. But sometimes it wasn't fast. Getting a live person is my only complaint. Other than that, I'm happy.
The icemaker is having some serious issues. It barely works at all. If you’re really patient, you could get a bit of ice out of it. But then the flap is broken also, so it collects a lot of frost in there. The crushed ice doesn't work at all, and then the cubed ice worked a bit. Appliance Wizard and AHS both couldn’t find the part so we ordered a new refrigerator. We're very happy with the Appliance Wizard. I would like just them to come out anytime we have a problem. They sent out Integrity Plumbing Service and the techs helped a lot. They were very polite and our experience with them was perfect. We showed them where the problem was and they went to work. Then they came back out after it was finished and explained exactly what they did. They had to replace the bolts underneath there as well as the wax ring, and locked down the toilet. They were very professional, kind, and quick.
We also had to replace our furnace and that was a big saving since they came. Instead of thousands of dollars, it was only hundreds of dollars we had to pay. The AC unit needed to be refreshed with Freon. It's an older unit and it uses the type of Freon that will no longer be in production in 2022. So if I have any additional concerns about the pressure, then it would have been cost-prohibitive for me to recharge the system. With the diminishing supplies of Freon that's compatible with my system, it's going to be extremely expensive. To do that, that was going to be about $1200.
So the technician provided me an option to take a look at replacing the system with a brand new system with a 10-year warranty. It would be pretty expensive, but AHS has a program to kind of discount the price to make sure that for existing customers, you have a more reasonable pricing. So that was the route I took. It was spending another $2700. I got a brand new system that with a 10-year warranty, updated the coolant. I was very pleased with all that. The only thing about American Home Shield's program was that the vendor had to tell me about it. I didn't go looking for it because I didn't know I had that option.
It's not clearly articulated in the information on their website, at least not to my knowledge. It's not readily available. But I'm glad that the vendor was informed. He had a vested interest in it as well. It was a win-win for him and for the Livingston household with getting a brand new system. They were very efficient and it took about a day. I was very pleased.

I've had three claims this past month. One was just the special that AHS offered for a furnace tune-up before I turned it on. The contractor was good, very courteous, and professional. He was out promptly and then did a thorough job. The second one was for a switch for my garbage disposal. American Home Shield had originally called the Copher’s Quality Homes place. They called me back and said they couldn't come out for a week to check this switch. So, I called back to American Home Shield and I told them I needed somebody out before then. They called Howard Jones Electric and the guy was out that very day and replaced the switch. It's been working fine so he gets very high marks.
However, then, I have another call for some more switches in my kitchen and in my dining area. They were acting up. The lights were going off at odd times. Sometimes, they came back on and switched. Sometimes, they would not. I called American Home Shield and they routed me to Copher’s again. When they called me, Copher’s said again that it would be a week before they could come out. I just left it. I felt like I could deal. I just didn't wanna go through the hassle of having to call AHS back to get somebody else out. The Copher's guy was out a week later and he replaced two switches, one in the dining room and one in the kitchen. I'm just not happy with Copher’s because they said twice that they couldn't get to me for a week when I needed service. I don't think this is what American Home Shield wants in their service. I wish AHSi would make a notation on my account to please not send them back anymore.

So for example, when you go to the next cycle, it wasn't switching all the way over ‘cause it was stuck. He had the part. I had a Roper, but he told me that it was made by Whirlpool. He did a really great job. We've been using that washing machine ever since then. They also came up pretty fast as promised. I had a great experience with that incident there.
When I submit a claim with AHS, I just go online, I choose what appliance and what the problem is. What’s the good thing about it is, when I have a plumbing issue, and then I also have another plumbing issue, but they're separate issues, they'll take care of all the plumbing issues at the same time. So, if I have a leaky faucet, and then I also have a stopped-up drain, with that same call, they take care of both things.
They also take up to three things with one call of the same nature. One time, I had an incident where my hot water heater was leaking, and then I had a stopped-up drain, and then I had a leaky outside faucet. We weren’t able to turn it off. So, the contractors came out and fixed all three things. I didn't have to pay anything else besides them coming out. Just one copay and three different issues were fixed. So far, I've had a positive experience with AHS.

In the kitchen, the InSinkErator setting stopped working. There's a GFCI plug underneath there and then on the side, there's a switch. I did some basic testing myself. I unplugged it and used an extension cord to go to an outlet, and that worked. So it was something electrical, and I was not gonna muck with that especially under our sink. Safety first. So, the guy from Hopwood Electric came in and he did a bunch of testing. The other thing that was happening in the house was that we started getting little kinds of flickering, like ceiling lights and the TV. It was all over the place and stuff started happening at the same time. So, I just pointed stuff out to him so he could see where I was talking about.
First, he did some testing on the sink underneath there and the switch that turns it all on. He also went out to the breaker panel in the garage and then outside where the power would feed into the house. He said that one of the things if it was at the wrong level coming in or the breaker had a problem, would have a domino effect. The GFCI outlets have two buttons, one was a test and the other one is a reset. I couldn't get it to reset and he was able to get it to reset and it seemed to work. Although subsequently, it wasn't and I had to get down there. He told me how to do a reset so it happened properly and he didn't have to replace anything.
In the living room, the wall goes up, then flattens out then goes up again. There were these eight-foot fluorescent lights up there and one of those went out. So we just pulled the tall ladder out of the garage and he went up there. He said that it looked like ballast or something. I brought up the PDF of the contract and he said that it was not covered for him to fix. So, he climbed down, we carried the ladder out.
My son and I climbed up there again, and it's like these eight foot fluorescents. So, it turned out one of the tubes – there’s like [unclear 0:05:03] there. And so, one of them was bad. We replace that on one of them. So, that one worked and the other one, it didn't. And they’re sort of wired to one switch. So, we turn on, there's three of them, number one, they all turn on together. There's a buzzing on the ballast to one of them. So, that's probably the problem.
Back in the kitchen, the InSinkErator keeps tripping. So, my son shut the whole place down and checked the switch, which was fine, and the GFCI outlet was the problem. So, he bought a new one and replaced it. He's trained in that and went to college for it. Overall, I believe in American Home Shield. I've been using them for 20-plus years and in multiple houses and I've always been satisfied. I have my new neighbor five houses down and I've told them to get it. So I'm sold on American Home Shield.

My wife and I spoke about it and we were going to go ahead and drop American Home Shield and go to another company. I was gonna have to pay $781 upfront. It didn't sound right. I went ahead and on my own money, got a really good reputable company here in Louisiana. They came out and gave me an estimate. They said, "There is nothing wrong with the condenser but you are gonna need a new coil because that one is completely gone."
I then got ahold of one of the supervisors at American Home Shield. They asked, "Do you mind if I send out somebody else?" AHS sent Total Air Care for my claim and they were so professional. They checked everything in the house like every outlet. The air is great now and so is the furnace. The plumber also did a super job. I was pleased with everything except for the last job. Looking at what the last guy did, it's bad. He was supposed to put the ceiling over the hole and plaster over it. It has some little circles around it which I was concerned about. I told him I wanna make sure the hole was cut out big enough to cover the circle and that we wouldn't get any mold from it in the future. He said it was dry. He didn't cut out anymore the two big circles. He just put a little piece of plaster over the hole that was originally cut to get into the pipe. He said AHS didn't want him to plaster or paint it but just stop the hole up. But I've never heard of anybody stopping on a job before it was finished. I couldn't do that. He told me that if I decide to hire him to do the work, he could do it but would have to charge me.

The guy from MC Appliance Repair seemed to do a thorough job. Initially, it was the washer and the dryer. He fixed the washer and said there was a part needed for the dryer. He would place the order. He came on a Friday so the order didn’t go in until the Monday when I received the call that said that they had submitted it. I may have misinterpreted where they said that they sent out to get the part not knowing that they were waiting for American Home Shield to give them authorization to proceed with getting the part.
When I called them today, they were telling me they are still waiting for authorization from American Home Shield. I told them, “Why didn’t you say something? When you guys called me, you said you were ordering the part. If you put in the request for the part and somehow American Home Shield didn’t respond to you, it’s for you to tell me, ‘We tried but they said no,’ or at least, ‘We tried and we have referred back,’ so I can push it. I’ve been without a dryer for two weeks.” I’m feeling frustrated because I’m going to my friend’s house and use the dryer.
I had American Home Shield at my previous home and I did not have any of these issues that I'm having in this house. I trusted getting American Home Shield that I would be fine should there be any issues, and so far, I've heard more no’s. They’re saying that they’re not gonna repair the toilet because it was a faulty install. For the stove, the burners work but come to find out that the oven doesn’t work.
First of all, I had to wait. The guy that came and serviced it said that he was gonna order a part but it turned out that the part no longer exists. So I was approved to get a new one. I asked, "Can you go ahead and order one for me?” I was told then there was none in stock. It was all on backorder. I said, “I waited till you guys got it. Then I got a note back saying to go ahead and get it. Now, I’m gonna be out $500, $600 because you guys can get it at a discounted rate and I can’t.” Previously, I’ve had good relations with them but my experience for the last two months has not been anything like the previous years.

AHS came with the house when I bought it and for the first year, it was part of the house as part of the deal. I liked it so I just kept it up. It's expensive for a long term. I pay about 30 something dollars a month. If I had put that much money into a savings account, I would have saved money in the long run. But it's for peace of mind. Recently, I had a problem with the thermostat. Myers Comfort Specialists of Birmingham was sent out and the guy wasn't really able to help, but he gave me some good information, like how I could probably make sure that it works next time. Then the oven in my house broke. There's no replacement parts for it so AHS is replacing it. They had to order it, and with the COVID going on, everything's just really slowed down. I'm waiting for them to deliver the oven. It's been about two weeks. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.

American Home Shield takes the stress off you. Recently, my refrigerator wouldn’t cool. We've turned it on and opened up our freezer, and at the bottom, there was water in there. Then we opened the top and took the temperature and it was like 40 something degrees. As soon as I filled the claim out online, I immediately got a response. Then they called me and told me who was gonna be coming out. Those people contacted me immediately. They couldn't get to me for a few days and they had to order the part, but it was still worth it. The guy was polite, pleasant and clean. I couldn't ask for anything better. Anybody's gonna have problems with their equipment and as far as out-of-pocket expense, I was out of 100 bucks and you can't beat that. American Home Shield worked really good.

American Home Shield has been very responsive and my experience filing a claim with them has been outstanding. When my air conditioning unit didn't work last summer, they sent out a company right away that said they fixed it. It wasn't fixed though and it took probably five trips to actually get it done. The contractor I had that time should not have taken five times to diagnose the problem. It turned out the amp draw was very high. While I waited for them to finally get the unit fixed, my electric bill was $700 a month. It was drawing a lot of electricity. All in all, I was glad to get the unit got fixed. But I could have saved a lot of money had I had a more experienced technician the first time. Another service request I had was when American Home Shield was running a special where it was $75 for a heating system tune-up. I signed up for that and it wasn't difficult to get scheduled. A R & C Specialists came out and they said everything worked well.

The last one that they did was the pump for the bottom skimmer. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is quick. I get online, tell them what I need and within 10 minutes, I've got a response from them. I have a good rapport with them too, so I've been happy with the coverage and the way they've been taking care of us. A lot of the homeowners in this neighborhood are older. The Repair Shack came out and took a look at the dryer. They had to leave and go order the parts but they came back four days later and fixed it. So, that worked out well. The technicians were very good. The young man was very pleasant and seemed to know what he was doing. On the other hand, the furnace had to be replaced. And I was displeased with American Home Shield. They were absolutely terrible. Originally, I had our furnace checked and somebody said we had a cracked heat exchanger. I contacted the warranty company and they sent their own personnel. They confirmed that it had a cracked exchanger and they also confirmed it needed to be replaced. That started a lot of frustrating calls with American Home Shield to try and get that worked out. I was told repeatedly that the furnace that they were gonna replace it with would be the same furnace that we had, which happened to be a Trane. It is a good one.
After about the fifth call, when they finally got the furnace in, it turned out not to be a Trane but a furnace called Goodman. I wasn't familiar with that and I looked them up. They're not a very good furnace although they have a lot of different variations. When I told American Home Shield I wasn't interested in Goodman, they offered a cash-out/cash in lieu, and the amount was $600 including installation, which was absurd. Even the lowest priced furnace would be $3,000 plus $1,000 in installation charges. So, it was totally unacceptable.
I talked to AHS many times and it was very frustrating. Nobody could ever give me a straight answer and finally, when I’ve gotten ahold of somebody that knew about the 600, they said that about 400 would be the furnace and about 200 would be for the installation. It was crazy to try and install a furnace and pay the installer 200. When the installer that AHS hired notified them that the furnace needed to be replaced, I noticed a whole series of separate modifications that they had listed, like gas line modification and sheet metal modification. Each of them had about 100, 200, 250 and it was about four or five of them. They added up to about $700. And when I asked the installer, they said that those are stuff that they might encounter that need to be modified.
I said that it was not like taking a lamp and unplugging it and plugging in a new one. They’re gonna have a little modification where the gas line would go in with a different furnace and so forth. They said that they were not quite sure. When I realized after all of these that American Home Shield was only paying them $200 to install it, it made sense that their installer, who has played this game before, was gonna run up $700 in so called modifications, which would be in the ordinary course of installing any furnace. The gas line was not gonna fit perfectly and the sheet metal was gonna have to be adjusted. That's routine installation, so this is the method that this particular installer has figured out. He said he has been with American Home Shield a long time. That's the way they add another $700 to the $200 that American Home Shield was gonna pay him.
We didn't go with the installer and we had somebody else replace the furnace. We threw in an air conditioner because it was about 25 years old. That's not got anything to do with AHS but the furnace and the installation alone were about 7,000. It's a great furnace that we selected. It's very high, at 96% efficiency and two stages. The brand is Lennox, which is a very good furnace. Goodman has got some decent furnaces but a $400 one isn’t even close to anything that’s worth anything.
So, The Repair Shack that did the dryer work was fine but if there's a low possible rating for American Home Shield, I put the one who worked on the furnace at the absolute bottom. They were hard to work with and the way they handled things was ridiculous. Every time I talked to somebody, they were very pleasant and friendly, and they kept assuring me that I was gonna get a new Trane furnace as soon as one got shipped in. But it was only at the last second when they said that they had been misreading the write-up. Where it said replacement, somebody put Trane as opposed to the original, which was what confused people. Also, the name American Home Shield doesn't bother me particularly but their call center is in the Philippines and there is irony that they are touting the name American in their name. But all of the reps were very pleasant. They’re somewhat hard to understand but it's neither here nor there.

I did have an issue recently with American Home Shield. The pipe came loose in the upstairs shower and the water leaked down into the garage and onto the sheetrock on the roof of the garage. The water ran to the side of the wall and down the wall into the hardwood floors. It was a big insurance claim. It was something like a $17,000 repair. I called American Home Shield and they sent Patriot Plumbing out to fix it. It was my impression that the guy fixed it. The insurance company paid for the sheetrock and the flooring to be replaced and for the restoration company to come out and dry the house out and make sure all the water was gone.
Patriot Plumbing didn't fix it right because it happened again. I called American Home Shield back plus my insurance company. The damage was nothing like it was before, but it was damaged. They sent the same guy right back out again. He remembered me because it was only a little over a year prior. As soon as he got out of his van, he walked up and said, "We don't have the same problem as last time, do we?" I said, "We have the exact problem as last time." He said, "I'll just tighten it up again." I said, "No, no. It's gonna be more than that that need to be done." That guy tried to do a little band-aid job for it to happen a third time. So, I ended up running him off and I called Michael & Son Services Inc. I paid them to do it right. American Home Shield didn't do anything for me on that one. But for the burners that weren't burning, the guy did a good job on it.

When we first bought this house, I bought the coverage with Home Shield and then the AC unit failed. They came out and they repaired it right away. It was great. Everything was wonderful. That was back in July of 2019. Since then, I've continued to keep up with it and then one day, we were out there grilling and we turned on the gas heater for the swimming pool so that we could use the spa. All of a sudden, we were standing there, and then there was a flash and a loud explosion. There was a ball of fire that blew the front off, so we were concerned. The pool guy from whoever American Home Shield contacted came out and looked at it. They said, "Well, everything's fine."
They couldn't find anything wrong. They couldn't tell me why it did what it did. That was the third time that somebody said, "Well, we can't see a problem." For the last three times I've called American Home Shield, the contractors have come out and said there was nothing wrong. To Home Shield's favor, nothing has happened since then. The pool guy put the cover back on the heater and everything's worked fine since then.
I'm out here in Vegas and this last summer, we were getting heat up in the 115 range. The air conditioner wouldn't cool down past 75 degrees even though I had it set at 72. I thought something was clogging the ducts. The guy went up on the roof and checked it. He said, "Your AC is just old and it won't work better than this when it gets hot." and it's like, "Well." That was the conclusion of my call. I get a little frustrated saying that. They then gave me a quote for a new air conditioning system.
This is my problem with American Home Shield. I have to pay a monthly fee for having it, and then I have to pay a $75 copay whenever someone comes out. I thought there was a problem when I called them both for the central AC and the pool equipment. On those two times that someone has come out, they told me there was no problem or nothing could be done. Either it's peace of mind knowing that there isn't a problem or was the contractor that they sent out shining me on? I'm not sure. Everything is okay, but sometimes, it's frustrating that I pay and I'm told that there's nothing they can do. Why am I paying for it?
I don't know if I would continue with the service when it needs to be renewed. I could just pay someone to come out, look at my stuff, and pay them the service call fee rather than paying the home warranty company a service call fee and the monthly charge for the service. If there was something wrong though, it would be covered through the Home Shield service because that's what happened the very first time I used it. I paid the service call fee. It was $75 and they fixed the air conditioning system. It had a bad condenser.
Another thing is that the home warranty company responds right away when I call them. I get a call back and I get someone out here within 24 hours. Sometimes it's faster. In that aspect, I would recommend them. There could be other things that are covered that could be fixed. I've just used them for the central AC and for the pool equipment, but so far, I've been lucky. I haven't had any other problems with that. We've only had this house a little over a year.

I called Home Shield back and they said they would dispatch another technician. But they dispatched the same technicians who said they couldn't do it. Home Shield needs to dispatch somebody else. Now, it's still just sitting there and not taken care of yet. There's black mold growing in it. I had another claim which is for my icemaker that went out. The tech came and they fixed it in a lot less time than what they said. The tech was great.

I get good service from American Home Shield. They're timely about getting me connected with a company that I need to fix the problem. It's just that it's a little expensive. I pay so much every month and then every time I have to use them, I have to pay again. I've gone a year without using it before. I think it's unfair to have to pay again when we have someone come out. Then it’s gone up from when we first started this. But I really can’t afford mine to have those kinds of coverage. Having a home warranty is important to me.
Recently, AMP Mechanical came out for the AC. The first time, the guy said there was a pipe at first that was bad so he replaced it. But then, I didn’t know why it froze up again after he fixed that. We left it off for two days, and when this guy came out again to check it, he couldn't find any leak or any reason, so we turned it back on, and it was working. But then it got cold, so I wouldn’t know. He had his mask on and he didn’t come right close to me.

I called back to request adding one more in but they asked me to place another service call which meant I have to pay for service call one more time. I disagreed and they said they will request for a call pull and will get back to me in 2 days. A week gone by, no one called me back.
I called back to check the status, another customer service told me they will investigate and call me back the next day but nothing happened. What do you think when you lie and cheat your customer like this AHS? What a shame on you because what you are doing is ruining your reputation. What a waste of money using your service. I first submitted a claim in July of 2020. It is now 10/26 & I still have not been able to get my HVAC repaired under my American Home Shield warranty. They sent a contractor who does not do what he says he will. When I requested another contractor after he no-showed with no call twice, I was told I would have to pay another service fee. I have subsequently asked several times to have a new contractor at no expense to me. At one time, I was told that if resolution wasn't reached soon, I would be assigned a new contractor. I have requested one since then, but was again told I would be responsible for a new service fee. Over a month ago, the contractor came back out & said the coil on my HVAC was bad & he would let me know something about authorization the next day. That didn't happen. He answered my text once, but ignored subsequent texts requesting information.
When I call AHS, the wait times are excessive & I have often had to hang up without speaking to anyone. When I am able to reach someone, they read from a script and their English is often very difficult to understand. On each call I am given the same information. When I told each representative that I wanted to speak with a supervisor, sometimes one called me back. Other times I got no call back. Finally, I was able to speak to someone over the weekend who said the delay was due to the contractor failing to provide requested information. She stated she was able to contact him that day & that repair had finally been authorized, but today my account still shows it as "authorization under review." I have no confidence that this repair will be made. AHS has taken my money & given me nothing but a poor quality contractor & a house without working HVAC.

I read several negative reviews and assumed that they were being dramatic and my experience was not going to be the same - do not make the same mistake. I submitted a claim on 8/10 for a refrigerator fix and it's now 10/26 with no resolution and countless failed calls with customer service. I've had to call over 10 times, each call lasting at least 2 hours (half of it on hold) and up to 5 hrs- with NO suggested solution each time and I have even been hung up on 3 times.
I noticed that they lay blame on the contractor company as the reason for hold up, but I took it upon myself to follow up with the contractor companies myself and have found that each time, they have indeed completed their actions. The worst part is, they won't allow you to terminate your contract due to their inability to resolve your issue so you'll have to continue paying them each month, knowing they are not working to fix your issue. All they need is for you to sign the contract, and they can rob you of your money for a year without providing the services they promise. I truly feel robbed and hopeless at this point. Details below:
My case: I submitted a claim 8/10 to fix my fridge. The first contractor (Sears) came & found that the part they need is 'no longer available.' After I received no follow-up on next steps, I called and after some back and forth (multiple calls) and misinformation on their side, they finally said they need to send a second contractor (Watkinson) for a second opinion. They were assigned on 9/24 and after one no-show, they came 9/30 and determined the same diagnosis.
I waited over a week and after no follow-up yet again, I called on 10/5 to ask what are the next steps for a fix/replacement/solution and they said they didn't see record of the contractor coming 9/30 and that they received no diagnosis from them. I called Watkinson myself (even though that's AHS's job) and found out they submitted their diagnosis on 10/2. I then called AHS AGAIN to let them know and they kept repeating that they received no diagnosis, I called Watkinson again to confirm, then called AHS again, repeat. Even if they supposedly did not receive diagnosis, you'd think they can call their own contractor and get details but here we are a month later and they still claim that no diagnosis was received.
The customer service know that they can say/do whatever to get you off the line because the next time you call, it'll be a different representative. Imagine an endless loop where each representative tells you sorry for the issue, there are no updates, and that I will 'probably' get a follow up shortly but you never do so you have to call to follow up yourself and the next representative says the same thing, repeat over and over. The employees do not live in the US and cannot resolve issues as it seems they are all forced to read from the same script, and cannot escalate issues to a higher authority.
If you ask to speak to a manager or "anyone that can help" they say it is within their policy that they cannot do so. Since each representative said they couldn't do much to help me, I asked to just terminate my contract since they haven't been able to help me at all and they refused. In addition, I've received empty promises from multiple representatives promising a follow up, and each time it was a lie just to get me off the phone and me having to follow up again later on. Please save yourself the headache, this is not an ethical company and they do not provide the service they promise.

I purchased the AHS warranty when I purchased the house in June of 2018. I have been pleasantly surprised with the service and the expediency of AHS. I had to have plumber come fix leaky tub, great and quick service provider, next was the AC unit. Great and expedient service. Then I had issues with the inside unit, same - quick and helpful. Then washing machine had need of parts and service, took a while but did have friendly helpful service. The service this time for my refrigerator that went out 10/19/2020 and today is 10/26/2020 with no resolution.... I called the contractor. They said was to come... no response or call back. KINGDOM ENTERPRISES warrensburg mo!! Do not try them not willing to call or respond to multiple (Polite and friendly messages) just requesting to be acknowledged.
Called the AHS and all they have is a silly Answering system with push this button for that and this one for this. TICKS ME OFF!!!! I want to talk to someone when I finally get a rep 1 hr later!!!! It's some lady I can't hear or understand. Not her fault but she couldn't do anything. There has to be a better system or company to use. ALL AHS does is collect and invest your money.... then don't plan on helping or replacing anything.... They put you on hold for so long thinking they won't have to talk to you or help. I am PATIENT and it's going away!!!

American Home Shield offers the worst type of customer service ever. I have created a service request three months ago, and I am calling every day to receive the service. So far, I have talked to over 20 customer service agents, two escalation team members and have made numerous attempts to find a manager to speak to. I am losing thousands of dollars just because of waiting for AHS. Every customer agent of AHS is trained to cheat customers and to make false promises. My claims are 100% legitimate and AHS agents each have confirmed their legitimacy, but for months no one is authorizing the contractor to do the work. I have asked for cashing out so that I can do the work myself, in principle AHS has agreed with this as well, but the authorization department won’t bother to take a minute and click a button.
I am so frustrated with calling the company every day and waiting behind the line for hours. As soon as one agent hears my story, they either transfer me to another person and make me wait another two hours or simply disconnect the call. When I call back, the call goes to another agent, and I have to repeat the same story after waiting for hours. This company is ripping off its customers and in return does not offer any services. I have wasted 20 times more money in waiting for the call or talking to the AHS agents than repairing the item myself. I would strongly recommend that you all stay away from AHS and don’t waste your money or time in paying the company monthly premiums for nothing in return.

Be careful. Do not expect them to cover anything that is not a faucet or a simple fix. Customer service keeps sending me to departments that don't exist and put me back on hold. Called over 30 times in the last month. Please beware! You will eventually get to the point, you don't continue the claim because there is way to do it. Customer service agents are disconnected and are in the Philippines. This has been very disappointing.

Filing a claim was a fairly easy process. But it's not comprehensive enough if I have other issues. For example, I had two plumbing issues that I wanted to have resolved, and there's no place to put in two plumbing issues. I had some outside faucets that were leaking and also the showerheads. But I was only able to put in the showerheads because if I have another issue that requires a plumber, I'd have to go back and pay another $75 when it shouldn't be that way. So with that stuff, that probably could never be resolved because it's too complex, too many different things can happen. That’s my only complaint about it. However, the contractors that were sent out were hardworking guys. With my recent claim, the guy from Ready Services was great and nice. He had to replace three showerheads that were leaking. We were so happy with him.

The tech did his job correct. He was able to fix my unit automatically when he got here and he also gave me some extra pointers on what to do to maintain it. American Home Shield is good, but sometimes it’s frustrating. If there's one little thing that you didn't think of, it's better to troubleshoot it yourself before you call. The process could be a little faster sometimes. It depends on what's going on, but as far as them contacting me, that's never been the case. I've always had to contact them. Other than that, when they come, they get the job done. In the beginning, my refrigerator and my dishwasher were out at the same time and they were able to fix that. Having the ability to have them do multiple things at the same time is good.

My dryer wasn't heating up. I called and the representative told me that I would get a phone call within 24 hours from a contractor was assigned to my job. But it was a weekend so it was in 24 hours as a business day. It wasn't 24 hours on the weekend. I got an email from American Home Shield saying who was assigned, but I didn't get a phone call until Monday morning from both companies. The guy from Mister Appliance came out and fixed my dryer. He was excellent.
I just don't like that my premium has gone up. It's been the same for the last two years, and this month, it went up from $36 to $54 a month. So, it went from $400 a year, $450 a year to $700 a year. I called in American Home Shield to find that out. But the wait time to speak with a representative for billing was over an hour long. I didn't have time to sit on the phone. I don't know if it's just because of the recent pandemic or what for the fees to go up. People are home more so things are breaking more. However, my experience with AHS had been seamless and enjoyable because it was all done quickly and everything was back up and running in no time.

I called American Home Shield about my oven, stovetop, refrigerator and dishwasher. Everything had a problem with it and I did the claim all at once. The contractor got the ticket and they called to make an appointment. They even texted me when they were 30 minutes away letting me know and sent an email too. When they showed up the first time, they needed to order a part for the stovetop and the refrigerator. But they fixed the oven and the dishwasher. It was great, perfect and quick. They kept their distance according to COVID regulations, wore masks, cleaned up and left.
There was still a problem with the oven. It was still giving a code and the dishwasher stopped working. So I called the contractor and they made note of it. They were gonna return when they got the pieces ordered in and they did. They came in and fixed everything with all the parts. And even what I called in, they fixed. They said they had a 30-day guarantee on all their work and to give them a call if anything goes wrong. So, it was nice. I would use them again. The technicians were very respectful, and told me and showed me what they did before I signed off.

The dishwasher wasn't drying and wouldn't go through the cycle. Allstate Plumbing came out a couple of days after we filed the claim. They said there were parts they had to order. They originally said it could take a week or two. But then two weeks came and went, and we didn't get any call. I called directly to the plumbing company and they said that because of the COVID, it would probably take another couple of weeks. Well, it would have been nice if they had contacted me and not having to call them.
So then that came and went and we still hadn't heard anything that couple of weeks. I called them again and they said that they were having problems probably because of the COVID. I told them that I was getting a little tired of COVID being an excuse for stuff. They told me to call American Home Shield because AHS was supposed to communicate with me. It should have been them that was responsible for keeping in touch with the customer. Communication with the customer is pretty important. I called American Home Shield and the gentleman that I got was really good. He immediately said that he didn't like the fact that the plumbing company was pinning it on them. He would get to the bottom of this.
While I was on the phone with him, a call was coming in from the plumber. But I didn't take the call because I was talking to the AHS guy. He said he would call the plumbing place immediately and find out what's going on then he would call me back. There had been a message left from that call that was coming in from the plumber, but I didn't check it. I just waited for the AHS guy to call me back, which he did. He said that there was going to be another part that was coming and he was gonna follow up on it. It turned out that the part had been shipped and it would come in within a couple of days, whereas the gal at the plumber place had told me that it was delayed. That person didn't even know what was going on at all at the plumber place. But everything turned out fine because the part came the next day. The plumbers were out within a couple of days after all of those phone calls back and forth.
There have been times when we've wondered if American Home Shield has been using reputable businesses or if we are getting the people who don't have business. We had a plumber from another place that came to do our sink. He left and there was still a leak underneath the sink. He had to come back and change things around. And so, this gives them business. But the other times, we've had really great contractors, like the guy that came out to do the hot water heater for our same rental. He was awesome and he was able to fix the problem. It's just what it is. American Home Shield is everything that we needed it to be. I signed up our rental for it because we realize it's a wonderful service.

Patrick, the A-US Air gentleman who came out to do the HVAC system, was very professional. I liked him and respected him. He did a good job. The first time they ordered a part, they put it on, and then it stopped working. They had to order a module and Carrier was the one that paid for it because it was under warranty with them. That got squared away and then Patrick put it on. He was very good. I wish that American Home Shield had people like that to do all the work.
The thing that I am most chapped about is my dryer. We had a dishwasher problem and a dryer problem. On September the 26th, we called them regarding the dishwasher and the dryer. 7-H Appliance came out, and it has been so bad. It is November 4 and I still don't have a dryer. I have asked them and asked them. It’s not the right parts being ordered, and they can't get a part, supposedly, for my dishwasher. It was gonna be for three to five weeks. If everybody handled their business like A-US Air did, it would be great, but 7-H has been absolutely horrible.
When 7-H came, our dryer was working, but it may take two to three hours to dry a particular load because sometimes it would just stop in the middle of a load. When they left the second time, we had no dryer. The dryer doesn't work at all now. Before, you can at least know that, “Well, I can wash clothes and dry them.” Now, we can't. We have to go to our family's homes and dry our clothes. I don't mind washing dishes and drying them. I can do that in a pinch. The big problem is my dryer. The first guy that came out only spent two or three minutes on my dryer, and he spent the rest of the time on the dishwasher. The second time, it was a different person that came out. He tried to plug it back in and then the dryer was not operational.
They were gonna come back this past Monday and put another part on there, the panel board. What ended up happening was they said that American Home Shield ordered a bracket for the electrical board, and not the electrical board. I don't know who ordered the wrong part, and I don’t care, I just want the end result to be a working dryer. Now, they're supposed to be ordering the electrical board and they told me that it wouldn't begin until somewhere around the 9th of November. I've asked, “Did you guys have a policy where y'all can bring in an old dryer and just put it in until they get it fixed?” It may take three hours for a load, but at least it was working.

The plumber was able to fix that fairly quickly. He got in and he got out. I wasn’t here when the HVAC guy came, but my husband said everything went okay. There were some run over around the HVAC system and it's dried up since then. I haven't seen it so I'm sure whatever was wrong with it, he fixed it. We did receive the report late. My hot water heater wasn't working. We brought in the electrician and he did an excellent job. A plumber was then referred to come in. He did an excellent job. He called his supervisor and his coworkers to try to work through the hot water issues. I've been waiting for several weeks because a replacement hot water heater was supposed to be ordered. But I have not heard back from American Home Shield and I haven't heard back about scheduling for when the technician is gonna bring in the new hot water heater. I would like hot showers instead of cold showers.
I'm not super happy at this point. But some of it doesn't have to do with American Home Shield. It has to do with the policy that the homeowners before me purchased. I'm getting to know this house and it's an older home. But I have ceiling fans that are new with lights and it's not covered in my policy. It's very aggravating that I have these new ceiling fans with light fixtures and they come on at 3:00 in the morning then turn right off. They're not giving me error and light but they can wake me up at 3:00 AM at random. The other one just comes on and off three times within one hour. I keep going back to the room. I don't blame that on American Home Shield. It's not their fault that the homeowners chose a cheaper policy that didn't cover things that I need.

I submitted a plumbing claim with AHS and the tech who came out knew what he was talking about. He was in and out. But the other part of the claims process really sucked. I called back to check on the status on the 20th and AHS said that the water heater had been put on order. I called back yesterday and they said it wasn't ordered until the 22nd, two days after I was told that it was already on order. I've been without hot water now for two weeks. Plus, I have a $500 bill that I'm going to have to pay the plumber as well as $250 for modifications to the waterline. I also have to pay $250 for the permit, but I don't know why I would need a permit to replace the hot water heater that's already there. But that's an extra $500 that was hidden in the cost of the job, plus the $106 service call that I had, plus the normal $80 monthly payment.
So, this warranty that I supposedly have is still going to cost me $700 to replace the water heater, which is obviously less than if I were to buy it out of pocket and pay a plumber to do it, but not much less. So, I'm not happy with the whole process. But I had one other claim that was for a dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator. It was all fixed at no additional cost and it was smooth-sailing.

We had an issue wherein the condensation was leaking. My husband bought Flex Seal and put it around where the water was leaking, which was a piece that came out from the drip pan. I informed American Home Shield and the first company they sent that when the drain started leaking, my husband needed to stop the water from dripping everywhere. We also had a broken drain that's connected where the condensation comes down on the drip pan. The technician from the first company called it a screw but it's not a screw. It was a plastic drain piece that's screwed in. The guy saw that that was broken. He said he was gonna replace that piece. However, he took it and replaced it and then he gooped up some Flex Seal instead of using plumber's tape or doing it professionally.
The technician did it just like my husband did. All messy. He then took a piece of pipe, cut it, and put it so that the drip pan would be lifted up on either side. He bent the metal under the drip pan down. There are two pipes. One is a drain where the condensation leaks, and then there's another one where when water touches this particular sensor, it turns the compressor off so that the house doesn't flood. By lifting the pan in the center, the technician caused the water to go down the sensor pipe. That cut off the compressor, so we didn't have air conditioning for the last two days since they came on Monday.
The company told us that the reason that it wasn't working was because the coil needed to be cleaned. Prior to having American Home Shield, we had all of our equipment covered under Sears and every two years, we had the coil cleaned. It was done in 2019 and we had it written down. I told the guy the coil didn't look very dirty to me and he said, "Oh, you have to clean the coil. There's all kinds of algae and everything up there." I said, "Well, why don't you move the coil back and see if there is algae and just take the algae away and then the water will flow where it's supposed to." He was very nice while he was here, but then he went outside, came back in and said I had to pay extra for that. He said that was all he could do and he left.
I called that company seven times on Monday to find out why they just left and what was gonna be the next course of action, but they never answered. I called the representatives from AHS and the representative called them and they said, "We don't wanna do the retail work of cleaning it." They just didn't wanna do any work. They made it worse too. Now, my husband is a lot upset. The way that that technician Mickey Moused the sealant on there looks like some 10-year-old did it. On the other hand, the last company that came out today was fantastic. The first thing they did was take pictures of everything. The guy asked, "Who put all this stuff around here." I told him that was how the other guy did it. He said that guy was not supposed to do that and that it was messy.
When I told this last guy that our compressor wasn't kicking on and we were getting no cool air for two days, he went and looked. He pulled out these wires that connected to a sensor and it was full of water. He dried all that out, and he put it back together. As soon as he did that, the compressor started coming back on, so we had cool air. This last guy also took the coil, moved it back, and saw that it was perfectly clean. There were a couple pieces of fuzz, but apart from that, there was nothing at all there. This last guy went ahead and re-lined the drip pan with special stuff as well. He made sure everything was secure and that there was not any more dripping.
After spraying all this stuff on there, the guy from the second company told us to not turn the AC back on 'til 8:30 tonight, so that the stuff he put could cure and create a rubber filament over the top of the drip pan. He then went out to the compressor to make sure that it was working properly. Our unit is a little older, but because we service it all the time and we take care of it, it's blowing 60 degree air. He said there was nothing wrong with the unit. He rebuilt the drip pan that we have and I asked him if we could get a new drip pan instead of having a Mickey Mouse setup that the other guy did. He said, "We can’t get this part. It's too old a machine." My husband said, "If I get the part, will you guys come back and just put the part on so it can look like it did when it was new?" We left it at that.
The guy left and we're waiting now 'til 8 o'clock to make sure there's no more leakage. We won't know until we put the AC back on tonight. We still have the buckets underneath to mitigate. Still, this second company was good. They were so thorough, kind and nice. The first company was not horrible, but they didn't wanna follow through and that's not necessarily in the best interest of AHS. My mom has AHS also. I have it for her house, in our house here and then we have a house in Maine.
All our appliances are new and I said to my husband, I said, "Next year, we should seriously think about setting up everything at the house in Maine." We had Sears for all these years and then Sears was having financial problems. We used them a couple of times for certain things, but the whole idea is we just want a company to rectify the wrong. Not everybody's perfect and not every company that will be sent is perfect. That's why I don't mind saying that I would definitely recommend AHS. I'm not gonna bash the company because stuff happens.
People can make mistakes and as a consumer and a customer, I realize that American Home Shield has their checks and balances because there's so much fraud and so much stuff that happen. It took four days to get it right, but they followed up and they're trying to make it right. They sent another reputable company that was really nice.

When there was something being heated, whether it was water for a cup of tea or frozen vegetables for dinner, I would start to smell something. I described it to my wife as like burnt hair. It was only intermittent, when the microwave was running for more than a minute or two. If we’re just warming something up for 30 seconds, it didn't happen. I noticed that a couple of weeks before my wife did and when she noticed it too, we were going to call in.
Just before we called though, we started to warm something up and the microwave stopped running and it went completely dark. That was just after a few seconds. We double checked the breakers and then we unplugged the microwave and plugged it back in. None of the breakers tripped, but the microwave stopped. We did a claim with American Home Shield and an individual serviceman came out. He completed the work and fixed our microwave. The appliance was working when he left, which is what I would expect.

My AC died, and it ended up being a dead fan motor on the exterior unit. The guy from Total Air Care diagnosed it and dropped out the unit within like an hour. It was pretty quick and seamless. He did a generally great job and he was friendly with good customer service. I was mainly happy that the issue was resolved very promptly. I made the order online on Sunday, and then by Monday morning, I had someone here fixing my issue. I feel like it was done about as fast and as well as it could've been done. They were friendly and effective, so I'm a satisfied customer.
I've had American Home Shield for about three years now as long as I had my house, and every time I've needed them, they have come through very effectively. They have always been on point. I always tell my friends about them. A lot of my friends are buying their house for the first time. I'm always happy to recommend AHS. It's a great product to have for 50 bucks a month, covering anything you need and lots of stress taken care of.

Initially, the rep from American Home Shield mentioned that the contractor would call me but I had to call the contractor. Koning Mechanical Services came out and the preventative maintenance screening went well. They were excellent. The guy was very thorough, knowledgeable and professional. I turned the heat on a couple days ago and everything was fine. It's functioning well. When I first bought my house 16 years ago, I was with American Home Shield for the first 10 years. I went to another home warranty company because I was disappointed with the service and then, I was disappointed with them so I came back to AHS. Anything can happen with any kind of service but it's worth the expense to have that coverage.

We had American Home Shield in Arizona and when I came back to Colorado and bought my townhouse, I signed up again, and that was two years ago. Recently, I called them and they sent Allstate Plumbing out. They did a good job. The water heater wasn't working and it needed a little box down at the bottom. I had a neighbor check it and he thought the pilot light was out but the technician said he couldn't see the pilot light. It was way back underneath. That whole box with the dials that tells you how hot it's heating the water was all replaced. I called Allstate Plumbing because the technician was very good. I was being a little bit of a pest. I kinda watched and asked what was going on and he explained everything and was extremely polite. First he had to come diagnose and decide that was what he needed then they had it the next day and he came right back.

AHS has been great for me. I had an issue with the AC recently and the guy who came out was very professional, on time, and communicated well. Before he came, the AC wouldn't turn on and when he went on the outside part of the unit, there was some electrical something going on. He had to replace a couple of parts so it would turn on and he had all the parts with him. He fixed it right away and that was pretty awesome service.

It's expensive to keep a house up. I have AHS and I usually get my heater done every other year of service. Recently, I had Ace Mechanical Heating and Cooling come out and service it. Their guy had to fix a part and had to order everything he did. By the end of the week, it was all fixed.

AHS service has been pretty good so far. I've had to call a few times since I've been in my home. When I was trying to get my light company to come out and check some things in my house, their guy said he couldn't because of the issues that I had. He said that there was dirty air coming through from my attic and someone needed to check it. I wasn't getting the proper air into my house. My heating unit is in my attic. When I turn my heater on, it would blow cold air. I called AHS and they sent Massanelli Heating. My mom was there when the tech came. When he had an issue, my mom called me and I spoke with him. He was fine. He got my heater working fine. But there were some other things that he said he would have to check on to see if it was covered or not. We had to go out without air for like a while because we were waiting on pieces for my outside unit to come in. Other than that, it's been pretty fine.

When I had a furnace cleaning, the tech came in and cleaned. He was good. But the refrigerator claim was absolutely horrible. The technicians were fine. But I had to go find my own technician. American Home Shield didn't have a technician that could work on my stuff. So it lasted for almost six months. They promised me they were gonna reimburse me all of it and I've got ¾ of it. I haven't got all of it yet. Their reps tried to be friendly but nobody ever had proper answers. Nobody could tell me anything or anything that was wrong. When I sent my invoices in, nobody would tell me that they received my invoices and they kept on telling me that they couldn't find a way to tell me if my invoices were out there. Then every time I called, I was always on hold for an hour and a half. So it was horrible.
Everything besides my refrigerator has been fine. My dishwasher got fixed right away, but I didn't have to talk to anybody. Also, my dryer got fixed right away and I didn't have to talk to anybody. If I don't have to call and interact with them and if I can do everything on the webpage, American Home Shield is fine. But there are things on the webpage you cannot get answers for. The refrigerator killed it all. I'm glad it's kinda getting resolved. I was calling at least three times a week trying to figure out what was going on, when my money was coming or what I had to do to get it, and I never got a straight answer.

The blower fan on the furnace did not work. The technician got down in there and assessed what was wrong. However, he kinda left without talking to us so I called his company, Command, and they said he had to get a part. He apologized for not telling us what he was doing and that he left. They got the part from Friday to Tuesday and the same technician came in. He's pretty knowledgeable and knew what to do. He got everything hooked back up again. The Command office people called frequently and texted so they were very good. The Home Shield experience was good too. They are a great company. They got on the problem we had right away and the same day had made contact with the repair people. The repair person was there the same day so you can't fault them for anything there. They were very responsive.

When I requested for service, the process was very easy and American Home Shield had a very quick response time. The technician looked at my air conditioning and said it was going well. This unit is in an apartment building and the system sends cold water and presses air. It wasn't cold enough but in a certain area, it was really cold. I didn't understand it, so I kept turning on the air con. I came from a house with a different system and I wasn't used to the one in the apartment building. The issue was not something to be fixed.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

Last year, the technician I got through AHS was no good. This time, I got a better technician who came and fixed my HVAC that had no hot air. Now, everything is perfect. They said if the problem comes back in six months, they would fix it. AHS provides very good service but some techs are not good.

I used the American Home Shield online account portal for the claim. Everything was clear out there, so I didn't have any confusion. What we saw was the top section of the freezer was freezing up. And then the bottom shelf was freezing. After the repair was done, it was a top shelf that was freezing. But when he inspected it, he said that it was all fine. It could be just a misalignment on the door. But it was all fine after that. The guy from AH Appliance Repair who came in also came in for my previous repairs as well. He was very accommodating. At the same time, he was very good in explaining what needs to happen post the fix. It was a very good experience.

The socket was working on Labor Day. Then I went to plug a lamp and the light didn’t come on. I was moving a lamp around and I went to plug it up, and that wouldn't come in. I went to the next one and it didn't come on. I went to the next one and it didn't come on. So I called American Home Shield. The experience was good. I also told the rep that the lights on the outside didn't come on, and I didn’t know if all of that was a part of the socket. Everything on that side just wasn't working. The contractor that came was nice. He told me that he had to go and pick up a different kind of socket, whatever the little plugins that he said that he only had one color. He came back and replaced it. For that particular claim, I was very satisfied. However, I still have a claim and I'm still waiting for my unit to be replaced. It's been a month now. They called me the week before last and said it would be Thursday of last week. They didn't call and come and set a time.

The washer wasn't draining. We put a claim in with Home Shield on a Saturday afternoon and the contractor called me Monday morning. They opened at 9:00 and they called me just after that. They were able to come out the very next day and they replaced the drain pump. It took them all of 40 minutes and everything's been fine. This was our first claim and the process was very easy overall.

This is the third house we've had Home Shield for. One that we had is that our son was living in. When we moved into our house in Minnesota is where we first took out the warranty. When we came here, we did it again. Sometimes, when you call in on the phone to set something up, I've had difficulty getting through. And I know that sometimes, the suppliers have told me they have difficulty. They have stood on the phone for so long, on hold, before they can get through. But that's the only thing. The Rite Choice tech cleaned the furnace and everything seems fine. It's a very old furnace. But it's clean.

The rep from Epic Mechanical did a good job and he was nice. But there are some stuff that we have that has not been resolved like power that's tripping from one to the other. Still, American Home Shield has been great. We renewed them from when we bought the house because we've used it so much. It has helped and it has done a good job, so we’d better keep it just in case something else happens. We've had them come out for water, the HVAC system and twice for the electrical.
