We had a pipe that runs to the refrigerator and serviced the water. Back in August of last year, it evidently sprang a leak. The guy who came out said that he couldn't find a leak so he cut a hole in the wall and looked. Then he said that it was not coming from the bathtub and that he didn't see a leak. This November, we noticed water dripping out of the exhaust fan and it was leaking under to the floor, getting the floor all wet. The tiles started coming up and we noticed a lot of mold building up. I called AHS again and they sent a fantastic plumber out. Between him and I, we found the leak, which had been leaking for about a year. AHS is doing everything they’re supposed to do. They jumped right on the claim and got it done.

The contractor for the plumbing issue was very professional and did a wonderful job. American Home Shield should answer the phone quicker though. I tried calling in the claim but I was put on quite a hold, so I gave up and went online which was certainly fine. I was pleased with the service.

The heater was going but it wasn't feeling any heat, and it took quite a while for the house to heat up. The tech from R Harris AC and Heating found the problem and he fixed it. They were here for two hours and it was wonderful. The unit has been quiet since then, so I was very pleased. I submitted claims online though most of the times I call, and I've never had any problem submitting it. My husband is handicapped and has dementia and AHS has been able to get someone out to me quickly. I've had American Home Shield for quite a few years now, and I have been pleased with everyone.

AHS sent someone out prior for a refrigerator claim I had and the tech was not good. It took about a week and a half to get the tech out there. Then he said he couldn't fix it because of the position and I had to move the refrigerator out into my living room for him to get to it. It was a horrible experience. I called the home warranty company and asked to send the person that came out when I had issues with my fridge in prior months. That company came out within two days and fixed the issue right there. They didn't need any assistance with my refrigerator being moved out to my living room. Also, I like AHS because it's convenient. I can submit claims online and it's usually quick response and service is done in a timely fashion.
Thanks for sharing your experience Jennifer. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. I'm glad to know that we have resolved your claim. Have an amazing weekend.

The claim regarding our HTG where Express Comfort Heating and Air came out went wonderful. The contractor was very nice and professional. We are happy to have American Home Shield's service. They have been very helpful. It came with our home we bought, and we went ahead and we are keeping it up on our own. It is a good thing to have, and we will be renewing for 2020.
Great! I am happy to know that we were AHS to resolve your claim. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have a great new year.

I've had a claim open with AHS for over a week now. The original heating company that was sent stated it was an electrical problem. They didn't really check anything and it wasn't that at all. They called the electrician and Bill Richards Electric came out. The tech asked why the heating company would even be looking at the fuse box. The issue was definitely a heating problem. So, I had another heating company come out and it was determined that the issue was the compressor on my heat pump.
Supposedly, the compressor took a while to order which I don't understand. I spoke to JESCO, which is the heating and air conditioning contractor. The tech said the compressor should be in later today and that he should be able to fix the problem tomorrow. I don't see how heating is not a priority in winter. Still, other than this issue taking forever to resolve, AHS has been very good.

The guy from Advanced Home that came out to check out my bathroom was amazing. He put little things on his feet without even having to be asked and that to me is important. I appreciate that he did that. We haven't had a lot of issues with AHS. My air has gone out once or twice and someone would always come out to help us. They always remind us about maintenance above everything. They're a peace of mind. They’re very professional and prompt when I make my service request.

The first group that came in did a fairly good diagnosis of what's happening in the two systems, and they got certain things working. He said there was a minute leak on it. But the tech did not have the time and he couldn’t do the job. So American Home Shield had another company called. The second party came in, but all the tech said was that I needed a brand-new system and that he needed to charge me $1,000 for putting in Freon. But I asked him why he was gonna put Freon when the guy told him there was a little leak, so he needs to fix it first. He said he was gonna have to charge me $1,000 to do that. And then he sent me a quote for two new systems coming in, thinking I was gonna go buy that system. But I had problems with heating and air condition before, and I refused to have that same company come see me again.
The second company was using this warranty thing to sell a new system. If they had to put a new system in, then American Home Shield would be paying for it and I'll be paying for it. It was a bait and switch. I waited for the summer to be over, and then I called and they sent this new company called Delta T. They are a third party and they did an excellent job.
The tech was able to get my systems working. It was the wintertime, and he said he was gonna seal it up and test it later when the summertime comes. But he fixed all the things that were wrong, and we did not have to buy a new system. So, he saved me and American Home Shield money. He was on time and courteous and he called me back. He knew what he was doing. He fixed the leak and then he came back again because he knew that the board was gonna go out, and he put a new board in there. We had no heating and air conditioning for about five months, but the issue was resolved and American Home Shield was willing to listen to a customer and not to their contractor.

We needed to get the remote to be able to operate the garage door from our car. Two gentlemen from All American Doors came from out of Abilene, which is 75 to 80 miles from here, and they not only fixed that but they also greased the rollers on that door which made it much quieter. The two gentlemen got out and introduced themselves, what they were there for, introduced that they were representing American Home Shield, and then they went right to work. We had two remotes and we also bought a car that would allow it to be operated from the car itself. And they did all three of those things, the car and two remotes. We appreciate it very much. We've had AHS for nearly 20 years already, and we’ve also got another little home that my mother lived in in Granbury, Texas that is covered by them.

While I was with American Home Shield, they were very good. I liked the service. However, their online service is actually horrid. I don't like to do it online. It's very impersonal. You don't know what you're getting. I'd rather talk to somebody. I submitted claims over the phone, and the reps were pretty good. They had 4A Appliance Repair come out in a couple of days after I submitted a claim. It was very reasonable. 4A had to get some extra parts and they took care of that for me and then came back and did things very well.

With AHS, I am able to go online and place my claims. If they don't understand my request, they call me and get further information. At my house, there is an upstairs bath and a downstairs one right below it. There was a time when there was water coming from the upstairs leaking into the ceiling of the downstairs bath. When I submitted a claim to AHS, Bestway Mechanical contacted us right away. The tech came out and explained what was going on. The water was coming out of the shower and out of the faucet at the same time. He explained that the diverter was bad and he had to replace that. He ordered the part and was back the next day. Now, there's no more water going downstairs and the upstairs bath is working like it's supposed to. He did a great job.

I had a fantastic experience with American Home Shield. Premier heating and Air came out, and they were fantastic. They gave us a program to come in and inspect all the heating units, all the central air and the fans, and they made sure everything is in working order. We’re gonna keep the contract going for maintenance of all the heating units and air conditioning. Premier came in and they took care of everything. It was $300 for the whole works for three stories of the house from the bottom.

Lone Star did a great job. They were on time and it took them just 10 minutes to fix the drain line from my air conditioner. It was clogged. They were able to unclog it. They said they blew out the drain and it was draining fine. We've been with American Home Shield since we bought our house. And before that, we've been with them for 20 years. We are not very good at fixing things and I like to be able to pay a premium and a co-pay and just have AHS take care of the rest.
Occasionally, in the summertime, if we have air conditioning problems, it might take a while for that to get taken care of. They do replace things with a lesser quality equipment than what we have already installed. Other than that, they're pretty good about getting stuff taken care of for us. Our pool pump went out. We had a Polaris pool pump and they replaced it with something less expensive. And they've had to replace it more than once since they've replaced that. Polaris is a better quality and probably lasts longer, but they chose to use a less expensive product and it doesn't have the lifespan of a Polaris. But then they come back and replace that, so it works out for us. If you're in position where you can't fix stuff, AHS is probably pretty good.

The people that American Home Shield sent were fantastic. They did everything they could to make the appliance run correctly, and I’m up and running again. I was very pleased with them and I’ve been most pleased with GE Appliance among those that AHS has sent out. They replaced several parts that were faulty in our microwave. They were there in three days but then, they had to order parts so they were back in another three days. The technician was very professional and knowledgeable.
Calling in a claim to American Home Shield is almost a waste of time. It takes forever to get anybody on the phone, so I have started using the online service. I prefer to talk to somebody because often, from the experience I just had, if I had another call that deals with the GE Appliance, I’m certain they're gonna want them to handle it, not somebody else. You can’t do that online. When I have a good experience, I would like the same company to come back.

I found out about American Home Shield through my sister-in-law who lives in California who had friends who used it and have it, and she said that I ought to look into it. She was gonna join it as well. I made a call when I submitted a claim and the process went very smoothly. After I notified American Home Shield of my appliance issue, Central Appliance called me the following day. Then, the technician came over the day after. He diagnosed what the problem was and he said that he was gonna have to report it and then order the parts. He did that and I got an email from AHS telling me that parts have been ordered. As soon as the technician got them, he came back and fixed it, and that was good.
The quick response, and the appropriateness of the service and the person stood out to me. It was very positive. This is a very worthwhile service to have. It gives me peace of mind, which was a very important aspect of why I took the service, to know that if something goes wrong, I have a service contract out there that’s gonna step in and take care of it. I found this way to be very efficient, and so far, cost-effective.
I'm happy to hear that we were able to resolve your claim John. I apologize for any inconvenience we've caused. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience.

American Home Shield does their best to do what they can. We've been having a huge problem with our refrigerator for the past month and Sears has been out to our place a number of times. Their techs have been very professional and showed up when they said they were going to. We finally got an email from AHS saying that our refrigerator was unfixable. However, we can't get our new refrigerator until the 14th of December. That email took an awful long time. Other than that issue, things have been fine with AHS.

Nick’s Appliance Repair came and the guy did his due diligence and checked whatever he was supposed to check. It’s a Sub-Zero and it’s 33 years old. He said that it was not repairable. The next day, I got a phone call from some other appliance repair in town and I said that it has been checked. They said that American Home Shield called them and wanted a second opinion. After almost 10 days of scheduling and rescheduling, a technician finally showed up. It was a couple of days ago and she said that it just needed some Freon. She said that I was gonna have to take everything out of the refrigerator 24 hours before she comes and to leave the door open. I said that I was going out of town in about a week and I haven't got time for this. She said that she would let AHS know. We left it at that.
The technician hasn't done anything. She said her company will call me to schedule something when I get back, but they never called. It’s been going on way too long. AHS changed their policy and they couldn’t give me a replacement because a Sub-Zero costs about $10,000 and they put a cap on it for $3,000. If it's not a Sub-Zero, at least I could get something new and get on with my life.

My oven stopped working and American Home Shield replaced the whole bottom part of it. So, now it has been working with no problems. The only issue that I have with them is once I filed a claim, they go ahead and take the money out, but it takes a couple of days for someone to even get back to me to schedule an appointment. I shouldn't be charged until that person comes out to make sure they show up.
The last one, when they had to come and fix my electrical, it took them two weeks to come out. When I first kept calling them, they would not answer. When I called American Home Shield, they told me I had to wait for at least 24 to 48 hours to see if they would contact me back and then they would try to contact them. I had to see and wait for American Home Shield to contact them too. And then when somebody finally called me back, they said it would be a week before they would be able to come out. So, I don't like that aspect of it. But other than that, the people that came out did a great work. Each person that comes out to work on something are usually timely, and they communicate with me.

We were getting warnings on our panel that there was an outflow valve that was not working. AHS sent somebody out to check on the heater and they fixed the problem on the first visit. It was prompt and the company was quick. They did a great job. When the refrigerator door was not closing properly, the technician had to come out three different times to fix the issue, but I'm still having trouble. I called AHS for recalls on this. This will be the third time. My last call was three weeks ago and I still have not heard from the technician.
Last week, AHS told me that they got ahold of the technician, and that he would call me, but he never did. Every time I call him, I can never reach him. And then, yesterday, AHS told me that the recall had been canceled online, which I didn’t do, and the person I talked to couldn’t tell me who canceled it. I was told to wait additional 48 hours for the technician to call me. I'm gonna wait until tomorrow and then call AHS because I'm sure he will not call me.

If they can’t get it, then they’ll contact me, which is the way it all happened. Jim is a great guy. He knows what he’s doing and he's extremely professional and very rapid because of his knowledge and experience. He’s one of the better guys I’ve ever had work at my home in the last 50 years.
American Home was gonna have to replace the microwave and they did not have a KitchenAid replacement. They had a GE replacement, and I didn't want a GE in my house. They credited me a certain amount of money towards a purchase of whatever I wanted to put in my house. I picked an LG appliance out of Lowe’s that was on sale for Black Friday, saved myself a 1,000 bucks and bought that.

When the water heater broke, the guy that came out was excellent. But he couldn't do much more over the weekend because he couldn’t get the parts. And it was Thanksgiving. But he came yesterday morning, and did it all. He did a beautiful job. My only difficulty is that when I call American Home Shield, it’s a long hold, and then, when I get someone, they're from the Philippines. They don’t comprehend what I’m saying, and I cannot understand them most of the time. If I ask them without being sounding rude to connect me with someone in the US, they would say they can’t. But it’s not their fault because that’s how they speak and they're halfway across the world. Once in a blue moon, I would be lucky and get someone in the US.
The self-cleaning option of the oven wasn’t working, and the bottom of the oven was eroded. So, it wasn’t working right. It would spark. American Home Shield sent someone out to look at it to decide whether they can fix it or replace it. When the first guy came out, he said it was dangerous and to not use it. He would get back to American Home Shield and see what they could do. I then got a call from American Home Shield, and they said the contractor was gonna drill new holes to the element, and they would be out. I told the rep that was not acceptable because the guy said it was dangerous. And you can’t fix an oven that’s sparking. The rep was very nice and she said she would send another person out to look at the oven to get another opinion.
This was all happening during Thanksgiving. I had 30 people over for dinner, and I didn't know what the heck I was gonna do. So, long story short, they sent someone, and it was a gentleman from Expert Appliance. He looked at it, and he said I cannot use it and that it can’t be fixed. He said that he would tell American Home Shield that I needed a new oven.
American Home Shield agreed to get a new oven and we went through the process and I picked the one closest to mine. So, I picked the GE and I went to Home Depot to look at it to make sure it had all the features mine did, and it did. American Home Shield sent someone out to put the oven in. It came in very fast, and they were trying to put it in for me before Thanksgiving. When they came out, they said the electrical was not up to code and that I needed to have an electrician. Plus the oven was not gonna fit. It needed five-eighths of an inch taken off one side, and I needed to get someone to do that too.
I had to wait until after the long weekend because nobody was available. I got an electrician and he fixed the electrical part. Then the guy was here for an hour and he cut the wood because the cabinets are all handmade. I called A1 Appliance and I spoke to the big boss. He said to have the guy take off five-eighths of an inch on the right side, just on the entrance, on the lip of the oven.
Meanwhile, I called American Home Shield and I got Philippines again, and I said that needed a work order because the contractor had to come back. The rep said, “Yes, ma’am, thank you for that.” They talk like robots. They all say the same thing. And then, they make you repeat everything 100 times because they don't comprehend. But it’s not their fault. That’s just the way it is. I then called the contractor and the guy said he did not get the work order.
This morning, I get the Philippines again and I explained to the girl the situation. I told her that they said they would send the work order, but no such work order was sent. The contractor was waiting on it so they could come back and install the oven after everything was done that they wanted done. I told her that the company name is A1. But she said it was Antech and asked me where did I get A1. I said, “You're asking me? You were the ones that sent them out.” I told her to give me a supervisor. She said the supervisor would call me back. But it didn't work. Then they connected me with installation.
Every time I call, I have to give them my email, my number, my address, my phone, whatever, for security, which I understand. Finally, I got Gary, an American-speaking gentleman. After waiting half an hour to get to him, he put me on hold and then he said the work order was done and the contractor should have it right away, and they would be calling me. But meanwhile, the owner of the A1 company told me to call him. I called him and he said that he didn't have the order yet, but as soon as he did, he would call me back and tell me when they’re coming out. And they just called and said they were coming out tomorrow between 8:00 and 12:00.
The other thing I had an issue with was when the second guy from Expert, I told them that I had another contractor fix my fridge three times, but it still isn’t working right. It’s still freezing over on the bottom drawer. He said he would look at it. It’s not worth it for me to have someone again come out for another $100 to look at the fridge when the man was already here looking at the oven. And he said that it needs a hinge and that he would tell American Home Shield about it. But no one ever contacted me about that. I was so busy fighting about the oven and who’s gonna put it in.
I'm satisfied with American Home Shield but I'm disappointed. I’m very patient, and I’m a businesswoman and I know how to deal with customers. I don't wanna hear, “Thank you for that,” and “Thank you this.” I need actions and I wasn't getting it. My concern is trying to deal with people to understand and not having to repeat myself because they should document everything that a customer says.
American Home Shield gives the reps a sheet, and this is what they have to say, and this is what they go by. And they're doing their best. But meanwhile, the customer is getting frustrated because there’s lack of communication. And to get a supervisor, they have the same issue also. It just doesn't work. I’ll stick with American Home Shield because they did solve my problem eventually. American Home Shield is the best way to go because you don't know when things break down. And when you're a woman alone, it’s very difficult to try to find somebody to come look at things. So it’s still a good deal.

At first, I was hearing the drawer where you get the ice open and close. Then, my milk was getting ice in it and it died within a matter of a couple of days. When it did, my control panel got blue and there were funny little lines running through it and nothing would work. So, I called American Home Shield and the contractor came out. The technician said it was the control panel and when he said that it was what was wrong, I agreed. Then, they ordered the part and I was out over a week.
I had medication and stuff in the refrigerator and I didn't know that they would help me get a new fridge. They should have let me know sooner that they could do that. It was almost a week before they let me know so, I was disappointed. But I got a mini fridge and it cost me 189 plus tax but they said they were gonna give me 125, and I’m waiting on them to reimburse me. I have no complaints over the guy and he must have replaced the part. He was back there a bit, and then, he had to go out and get a tool to get it out because everything started working. He had a little trouble reprogramming the thing. The little board on the front wanted to be finicky. He was also not getting a good reception on the phone here so he had to go outside but after he came back in, he programmed it right away. The technician’s service was excellent and it was the best service I’ve had of anyone who has come out here.

American Home Shield is a good company. Submitting claims through them is fairly easy. You just click on the website and goes right through. There was a leak from my shower and they sent C&P Plumbing out. The contractor was very good and very professional, and the experience was great.

This is the second time that I had the same issue with the stove and I asked for a different company from American Home Shield. So, this was the first time that SRL Services came out. The technician replaced the computer board and the igniter, and I'm happily, completely satisfied with my stove. He was very professional, and he went above and beyond trying to help me fix my refrigerator because a couple of people didn’t send the right parts. So, he went through a lot of hassle to get me what I needed. But I need a compressor and they don't do that. So, another company is coming out Saturday to fix that part. I also have a claim with AHS on my garbage disposal and it's still not fixed.

We had a stove that the glass was broken. It has three glasses and it was the one in the middle, and the oven was broken. I was cooking when it broke so maybe it popped because of the heat. It shattered the glass. We called Home Shield and told them that we needed to get it fixed, and they did it pretty soon. They were really efficient, helpful, and got back to me right away. That was helpful and they tried to fix the problem. The contractor came that week and they were quick in doing it. The AT Appliances tech just walked in here, looked at it and left. He fixed it. Everything was so quick and he was efficient. We were able to cook our ham and turkey.

Eagle Star Appliance recently came out for the microwave, and the tech needed to order a part because what he was relayed was that it wouldn’t cut on, but that was not what I had said on the phone. That may have been just a miscommunication on both parts, so that was not a problem. It took a couple of weeks for the part to come, but when it came, he came right out and explained to me what he was doing. I called this claim in at American Home Shield and the microwave works perfect now.

When I had an AC issue, I loved the company American Home Shield sent. The technician who came was great and the service was quick. I had Old Republic prior and AHS is the best. Submitting my claims has been easy-peasy. The service is excellent and if I have a need, they set me up with appointments quickly. It’s a little more expensive, but I'm really happy. I tell people that they’re idiots if they don’t have AHS and that they’d be crying because the expense could be horrific on their own. I’m grateful to have AHS and I love them.

We pay $75 a month for essentially a referral service to contractors AHS selects—inept, substandard contractors, as it turns out. Our dyer "repairman" took our control board to "diagnose" and never called us back with a diagnosis, never returned our messages, and soon stopped picking up the phone entirely. AHS couldn't even get a response out of him. Using AHS only ADDED waiting time without a dryer; there was no help here at all. Our electrical "repairman" walked around the house looking puzzled and essentially said that if the lights eventually turned on or at least sometimes worked, then there was no problem. AHS seems to be a scam; there is no service or help here.

Updated on 12/03/2019: Posted a one star review the other day. Company responded they were very sorry about my experience but they had sent an email to help resolve issue. I was unable to locate any email that they sent to me. Looked in spam, promotions, etc. Called the contractor. They were very sorry also that I am on day 10 going on 11 of not having hot water. They had not received the parts but were going to get with the distributor to find out why they had not received the parts. Meanwhile... Day 11. Writing reviews is all I have since I don't have hot water.
Original review: Last Friday I learned there was no hot water, called American Home Shield immediately. Was told I needed to contact plumber, Called plumber, left message. No response. Called on Saturday. Got an answering service that said they would contact me on Monday. Called AHS back to see if there was any way to get plumber that could come earlier. They said the contractor had 24 - 48 hours to contact me. He contacted me on Monday and came out on Monday and told us that the hot water heater needed replacement but that the AHS had to approve. I called Tuesday am to find out that it had been approved. Called back the plumber who said that he needed to order the hot water heater which was the rule of the company. Mind you there is a Lowes and Home Depot literally across the street. Today is Friday, 7 days later. I am still without a hot water heater. I am disappointed in the service and the turn around time so buyer beware.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

I have a partially blocked sewer line that hooks into the main, that goes into the septic system. I called AHS and told them twice I needed a plumbing company that will snake it out through the toilet because there was no cleanout on that main floor. They gave me a plumbing company who called me and I said they had to go through the toilet and there was no cleanout. So, I waited two more days and the guy came out, took all his notes and asked me questions like why he had to get authorization 'cause they were going through the toilet. I told him I told AHS. He said he would call back the next day, which was a Thursday, but there was no phone call or email.
So, I called AHS Friday, and they said they were gonna charge me $400 to take the toilet off and snake that line. I said what was the sense in me having them do our cleanout. They do a sewer cleanout, with our cleanout, but they won't take a toilet up. I told them I would just cancel AHS. They were to call me and we'll work out some sort of a compromise. I’ve had AHS for almost four years. I’ve have had three claims and this last claims was ridiculous. Also, one of their call service centers must be overseas and I could barely understand what the woman was saying, and she repeated herself four times. I was in the line with her one day for 30 minutes. She was just saying she would get back within a few minutes. One time, she left me 15 minutes.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

My wife and I are seniors retirees and I am a cancer patient as well as a 100% disabled military veteran. We therefore reside on a moderate, fixed income and can ill afford any unnecessary burdens on our already strained financial situation. Unfortunately as a first time homeowner (and lifetime apartment dweller) I had been oblivious to the predatory practices of these home warranty companies. That having been said, here’s our experience with this company.
After years of saving, the Mrs. and I secured a VA loan and purchased a newly constructed home where we will probably live out our days. After residing in the house for about four years we decided to contact AHS and get their advertised repair insurance. We secured a contract with the company and paid the monthly fees on time every time. A few months later our toilet became inoperable so we contacted AHS in regards to the problem. They advised us that they would first need to send a repairmen out to assess the situation but we will need to shell out a $125.00 “service” fee. Ohhh-kayyyy…
The service technician arrived, closed the door to the john, then grunted ‘n’ groaned around in there for bit. He eventually emerges informing us that the toilet is still busted and to complete the repairs he’ll need to use a camera to locate a potential obstruction. He then relates that this procedure will cost an additional $600 and our AHS won’t cover it. We were of course hesitant at which he coaxed that he would give us his special “these look like two stupid old people” senior discount (but just for us). Long story short, we got a guy off of Craigslist to fix our commode for $200.
After a review of our agreement with AHS (which we should have done in the first place) we discovered that they really don’t cover much of anything. We then decided to cancel the remaining contract but were informed by AHS that we would need to pay a $25 “administration fee”. We did so and were guaranteed that this would end our financial obligations to the company.
Shortly after the cancellation date we received a phone call from this corporation’s billing department advising us that we were over 60 days delinquent on our installments. Assuming this must be a mistake I protested that we had terminated our contract some time ago. The phone rep (who rudely snickered under her breath to her coworkers who, judging by their muffled laughter, also found humor in my predicament) replied what we were in fact on the hook for the balance. Nothing more “American” than sticking it to a disabled vet who still suffers from injuries related to protecting snot-noses like her and her boiler room pals!
American Home Shysters is nothing more than an overpriced referral service for overpriced repairmen. If upon the rare occasion they DO cover ANYTHING they will stick you with a “service” fee. You’re basically allowing another unscrupulous corporation (which shares management with foreign investors so again with the whole “American” thing) that has no concern for you other than to gouge your bank account for zip, zilch, nada in return. You’re better off saving up your money or using a credit card so don’t make the mistake of getting involved with these crooks.
Good Morning Gregory,
On behalf of American Home Shield, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience we caused you and your family. Thank you for the time that you did trust us to take care of your systems and appliances in your home. We will definitely be using your review to make our services better. Have an awesome day!

I heard a lot about American Home Shield from friends and how the coverage really worked. I thought it was worthwhile investing in it and bought into the plan July of this year. When my washer wouldn’t spin, I made a claim and it was automated, but I asked for a representative and spoke with a person. They sent Pender and they were very professional and timely in coming out after receiving the call. They checked the washer and fixed it the first time. They put a wire, but Melvin told me it might hold and it might not. I washed and it went through a couple of cycles. The fix held for a week, then the same thing happened. It stopped again, so I called American Home Shield and Pender ordered a motor.
Since I started this whole thing, I spoke with Samantha each time and she's been very caring and concerned about the fact that I’m without a washer and have been out for at least two weeks. The guy from Pender came out on Monday to put the motor in, and it still wouldn’t work. They determined that it was something going on with the wiring. I spoke with American Home Shield yesterday and they did a search to try and find the part that was needed. It’s no longer available, so they are replacing the washer. I’ve been without a washer longer than I would’ve been had I gone to Sears to get one once it quit, but I understand that it’s the process and they wanna do the search and make sure that no part’s available.

We moved in into a new house and about 12 hours after we moved in, the heat went out. I called American Home Shield right away. In the next few hours, the hot water went out as well. Air One Heating & Air Conditioning came out to do service. The techs said that there was no gas going to my heater and they left. I called the gas company and they explained that my change of address did not take effect. Once that was fixed, my heat turned on with no problem.
After another day or two, my heat went out again. I called AHS and they sent Air One again. The techs fixed the motor of my heating system and it worked fine for about three or four days before going out again. I called again and they came back out the third time and noticed that there’s a bad gas valve and they fixed that as well. Now, my heating system is working okay. Air One responded so quickly and everybody at American Home Shield has been very nice. It's a pain in the butt to have to call three times, but we wanna make sure the system is running correctly. I've been with American Home Shield for 30 years now. Every time I bought a house, I've always required the seller to provide a year's worth of American Home Shield, and I just kept it. And they've always had good results. Whenever I had issues or problems, they pretty much took care of my problems. Recently, Beaches Air Conditioning & Heating did a good job. I was really pleased with them. They came out on time like they said they were going to. They showed up when they're supposed to, and the guy was very knowledgeable, and it didn't take about 15 minutes to fix it. So, I was really happy with that. However, there had been some contractors that I wasn't too pleased with because they didn't really keep me in the loop or they just kinda showed up without calling ahead. But for the most part though, they pretty well worked with me and kept me informed of what was going on.
I've had some go-arounds dealing with AHS as far as their call center as well. I get people in the Philippines or somewhere and I get some people that I can't understand. They have such a heavy accent and I just have a terrible time. When I'm trying to set something up, it's just hard to understand somebody like that. They probably can't understand me either. But that doesn't have much to do with actual service I get and I'm happy with AHS.

I have two contracts with American Home Shield for two different houses. We moved a couple months ago and there's been three claims over here, and all of them have been great except I have one here for a thermostat and they sent the contractor to the old address. The rep used the wrong contract. If that representative have paid a little closer attention, we wouldn't have that issue. That issue delayed the service. But they corrected it when I called them back yesterday after the local company called me and said they were at the wrong place and couldn't get here. And the person's on the way right now.
For all the other claims it's been quick. The reaction time has been super. I called AHS for a garbage disposal that was not working properly, and for that event they did a great job. Both contractors AHS sent have been great. They've had very good representation with the service people. I've been very pleased until this last one because it has been pretty cool this week, and I was hoping to get the thermostat fixed yesterday. So hopefully it would be fixed today.

I've had American Home Shield for about 20 years now, and I've had some good and bad experience with them. My most recent one was wonderful, and they were professional and they did what they said they needed to do. The claim was for a cooktop that wouldn't light anymore, and somebody came out to try to fix it but wasn't able to fix it. American Home Shield suggested that we replace it, and so, a team came out yesterday and took the old one away and put the new one in.
The bad part is that I used to have American Home Shield with my rentals but I have dropped them for all of the rentals. With my own home, I can sort of tolerate delays and the people. But with renters, they want everything to be perfect and fixed fairly soon, and they gripe about it. For example, a few years ago, a renter's air conditioning went out. And with American Home Shield having only one air conditioning service outfit in all of Las Vegas, they get backed up in the summertime. Renters will tolerate something that's reasonable, but they were without air conditioning for about a week and a half in the middle of a hot summer here in Las Vegas, so it was not so good. So, I hired an outfit, who came out right away, and then I paid the price myself.
And for some of my things, over the years, American Home Shield was such a pain. I just replaced the stuff myself, like my dishwasher. American Home Shield's contractor would come out and supposedly fix it, but about two weeks later, it would flood again. My basement is kind of a playroom, where I have a pool table and a ping-pong table, and at the third time that the dishwasher overran and leaked into my basement, I replaced the dishwasher. The same is true for a couple of other appliances. Rather than going through American Home Shield, if it's not too expensive, I just replace it myself.
Right now, I have a refrigerator that has a way to have water come out, but it hasn't put out any water for about two years. Am I supposed to see if American Home Shield will fix that? Probably not. I have other ways of getting water, so I just let that go. Still, I keep American Home Shield for myself because, for major things, maybe it'll be all right. I have friends that have other outfits, and they're not any better. But for my rentals, it just doesn't work out.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

I had a plumbing issue and the company Home Shield sent out kept saying that he needed to go to the roof and that wasn't covered. He spent 40 minutes trying to get that through the insurance company. Finally, I told him there is a way that he could do it underneath the ground and he wouldn't have to go the roof. So he finally did, but my sink was so clogged up. He said that someone should reach me Monday. Monday came around, no one talked to me. Tuesday, I called them and they said that they were done because the insurance company denied the claim to fix it through the roof. Then, I called American Home Shield and they said the same thing, it's not covered. I tried to explain to the rep that he never touched the sink. He never even went underneath to look at what was going on. He just left because it was a Friday night and he just wanted to get it done because it was 9 o'clock when he was working on my plumbing.
I told the rep to go back to the call records and she'd see that the tech said he wanted to go to the roof. She saw that and she got somebody else, free of charge. Because my concern was the fact that every time they come out, it's $75. They said they could get a second opinion and if the second contractor agrees with the last guy, they would charge me 75 bucks. I said it was not fair because it could be the same thing, but we don't know for sure. She sent somebody out and he fixed it in 30 minutes and I didn't have to pay. I was glad the rep listened to me and she understood my concern as a consumer.
I had another claim with my AC and they didn't cover it. The AC drips water and there's a clog in the line and they said that my AC is covered and my AC is fine. The problem was the drain line, even though it is a component. That was my first experience and it wasn't good. With this plumbing claim, it was about to be a bad experience. I was gonna be really upset to have to wait for 24 hours only for them to say it's not covered and then have to pay another person $75. It's like any other company, there are a lot of grey lines. Also, when it comes to second opinions, I feel like there should be more flexibility on the trade fee.

My dad has been with American Home Shield for a long time, and I was trying to look for a company and he recommended them. I gave them a try. I did my most recent claim over the phone because I originally did it online and it teamed me up with Grade A Plumbing, and they never called me back or followed up with me. I called and they said I had to wait for them to email Grade A Plumbing and then eventually, they connected me with this company.
Grade A's service was excellent. The day that they assigned me to that company, I called the next day and they said maybe like Monday they would come out and this was on a Friday. The guy called me Saturday morning and said, "I happen to be in your area. Are you available?" When I said I was, he came over and fixed it that day. It took not even 24 hours. The guy was on point and a pleasure to work with.
I'm kinda getting used to American Home Shield right now. I added a few claims. There was a couple of things that I might have been not happy with, but they eventually resolved them. It's just that I had to pay like $474 when Grade A Plumbing came out for another issue that I had because it wasn't completely covered in the contract. I spoke with a couple of friends of mine that were plumbers and they thought that I got ripped off. It wasn't really the fault of American Home Shield because they were going by the contract, but maybe it was the contractor they hired.
There was one other issue too, and it was with my mini split AC unit. There was an error code on it. And I had someone come out and they said it was a surge issue and then they wouldn't cover it. They didn't even give me the option of a second opinion. They just denied the claim. I had an outside company come in and they said it wasn't a surge. The units were grounded. It was a completely different issue. I went back to American Home Shield and eventually, they took a while but they let me go to the claims department and get reimbursed the cost that I paid the other provider. They did do that, but it took a lot of digging to get them to do that for me. I'm happy with how things are turning out right now. I'm really happy with the fix that they've done. So far, so good.

My garage door wouldn’t work, so I had to try to pull it down so I could go to work and that took a lot of effort. It took AHS a while to understand what I was saying when I called it in because I was so nervous about not being able to use the garage. But they were excellent. Their contractor fixed the door on the first visit, and I was so glad. It’s working perfectly now.

The microwave wasn't working. American Home Shield assigned Pro Appliance to us but we had the information before Pro Appliance had it. There was a delay of about 24 to 36 hours which was unexpected and when I reached out to Pro, they said that they didn't know. There may be a communication breakdown between them. Once it was communicated, it was fine. Pro Appliance came and diagnosed the problem, along with that, they then went and ordered the part, and updated us over the course of about a week, and then returned and fixed the microwave. I've only had good experiences with AHS.

One of the hoses on the hot water heater had burst. I called American Home Shield and when I spoke with the representative, she put me on hold and said she was gonna see who could come right then. They sent out a tech in a couple of hours. But it was immediate. The tech beat me there from work but my husband was there. He was very professional and he explained it to where it made sense to us and we understood it. He was almost done when I got there. He went in the attic, and he explained what the situation was. He said it wasn’t the hot water heater. He talked about the type of hose that it was and from his experience, that type of hose usually gives out on the hot water side. He checked the hose on the cold water side, and it was fine. So far, the hot water heater seems to be fine.
I have a claim for my washing machine and I'm kind of disappointed. It would not spin and this is the third repair company that’s coming out. At this point, when does it get replaced? I’ve called and said replace it, but apparently, my word is not good enough. A guy came out on Monday and he said some wires were loose and that he tightened them up. He had the cover off. He said that the washing machine appeared to be spinning. And it looked like it was. When he left, he told me to put a load of clothes in there and he would call me in a couple of hours to see if it went through the whole cycle and spun the clothes around.
At the end of the cycle, that small load of clothes was soaking wet. It did not spin, and it did not rinse. So I called back and they said that I had to report it back to American Home Shield so they could come back out. This has been going on since last year, and at this point, I’m really frustrated with it. My washing machine does not work, and what is it gonna take for somebody to decide that they can’t fix it?
American Home Shield keeps sending another contractor out. I spoke to the representative when I called before and she said the second people that came out didn’t recommend replacing. The tech just said that he wasn’t able to fix it and told American Home Shield to send somebody else. That’s ridiculous because this is the third company and the first time they came out, it was not fixed. And now, they have to come back again. But they couldn’t come on Thursday where it’s convenient for us. So now, we have to wait all the way until next week for them to send the same guys back out who didn’t fix it yesterday. If the last guy said he can’t fix it, why send somebody else when that was the second company already?
I’ve had to call American Home Shield several times and they have done a good job. It’s just the doggone washing machine that’s really making me have ill feelings towards American Home Shield. I have a washer and dryer at home so that I don’t have to go to the laundromat. But now, I’m going to the laundromat. So why am I paying them if they’re not gonna do something about it?

I went through American Home Shield to get a couple of locks re-keyed so that they are aligned and I have less keys to use. It took about four days for them to send someone out, which is a little longer this time, due to a confusion with scheduling. I had to call, and once I did, it was sorted out very quickly. The guy from Realty Rekey who came to my home was great and I would have hired him by himself if I had known how to get a hold of him. He was professional, very friendly and knowledgeable. He was very good about walking me through the process as well as explaining things just because I was curious. He even helped me figure out a lock for the future that would match with what I have currently, which was really helpful.

The motor of my rental's garage door would not respond to open and shut. I called American Home Shield and their reps were great. The next day, their contractor SJ Garage Door Service came to do service. I asked the tech what was going on and he explained to me that the sensors were not connecting. He fixed whatever the issue was and keyed in the remotes. He then gave me the ticket and I signed. He was very professional.
Since we started with AHS, everything has been great. Another time, I had a problem with my air conditioner and they sent their contractor right out. However, the first company was not capable of doing anything. AHS responded and gave me a second company. The second company was the best. Our air-conditioning doesn’t blow. It was just turning on and off, and I called American Home Shield right away. A service guy from CityLine Air Conditioning showed up 40 minutes after I called. He was really professional and he was done really quickly. He did a really great service. Since he'd been out, everything has been working really well.
We also had a company who came to fix my refrigerator, and they did a really bad job. The guy wasn’t professional. After he left, my refrigerator stopped to make ice. And before that, it was making ice. They were taking almost two weeks to come back to fix it. I called in the company, and they told me as soon as they'd receive the part, they would come back. The guy was looking mad when he showed up maybe because I called in his company. And after, he’s put the part, he wouldn’t clean at all. He took off the gasket for the door to put in the replacement. When I asked if he could take his trash, he said, "No, we’re not taking trash.” He kept everything on the floor. He just went away, and I was really mad for that.
Now, it just stopped making ice. But I’m not calling again because they wanna charge me another $75. I paid the guy something. After he fixed it, I don’t understand why there's another part that was broken because it was working good before he touched it. But other than that, with a home warranty, I feel there's protection for all of my appliance. Everything I have is too expensive and to get a consultation from outside is more expensive. With AHS, it’s really fast to find somebody professional. They have a license and the warranty they are offering covers everything.

Yesterday, we called AHS to change one of our insurances with them which is on a property we bought one year ago. We wanted the insurance for that to be with the other insurances we have. We have with Home Shield a total of six houses, our house and five others that are rentals. The last of those insurance policies expire in January. The lady whom we talked to told us that our insurance for the house we bought one year ago would stay independent ’til the others mature, and then she can do something about them. We prefer if that could be done quicker rather than us calling AHS again. We had a recent claim for our heater that was not working and the repairer sent by AHS came and fixed it. About a week after, it was not working again. We called AHS and the guy who came then was very kind. It happened that there was another problem with the heater. We are satisfied with the service.

With American Home Shield, you don’t have to call anybody. Just click on what broke down, pay the $75, and they come out. I've used them four times and every time, it works out perfectly. For my range hood, they sent North East Electrical. For my refrigerator and my washer, they sent the Bennet people. Both of them were super nice and super knowledgeable. When I filed a claim for my dishwasher, American Home Shield sent out Express Appliance, a place that was based out of Jersey. It was a more formal company with answering machines and different departments. The guy came out and said that such and such part was needed. When he came back to fix the dishwasher, he realized that he had to pull the dishwasher out and that he needed a plumber. I got very upset. He said that he'd been doing this for a long time. I said that if he even had an inkling that it was a copper pipe, he should have looked. He was not nice about it and didn't apologize. I didn't want him to come back.
AHS was good though and finally got the plumber here. He put a flexible line in. And then, when the Express Appliance guy came back, he didn't want to come into the house. Moreover, the people at Express Appliance didn't call me back because I had a problem with them. He had ordered the part and I didn't want him to take the part. I said to leave the part here. I didn't even wanna do business with that company anymore.
In the interim, I put in a fridge claim as well. It has a Freon issue. Apparently, there are only two people on Long Island that handle fridges for Express Appliance and only one can do Freon. And it was that guy so I'm out of luck. I finally got to AHS and I gave Express Appliance as poor a rating as possible. Even the customer service rep said she didn't like dealing with the guy.
AHS then sent Limelite, which seemed to be a two-person firm on Long Island. They were great and communicated with me. On the phone, I told the guy what the problem for the dishwasher was. Also, he diagnosed the fridge problem on the phone and told me what to do as a temporary measure. He came with the fan that needed to be replaced because it wasn't spinning. He told me if the fridge didn't come back up, then it was a computer part. In the interim, somebody from AHS called and said that the part was not available and it had to be rebuilt, which would take five weeks. Otherwise, they would just give me the cost towards the refrigerator.
The Limelite guy found the part, came back and replaced it. The fridge's door is customized with cabinets so I'm glad that he was able to find the part because I really didn't wanna buy a new fridge. It was a little hard getting through to some of AHS's reps and having them understand the process. But in the end, AHS did the right thing. Within the original charge, they had the plumber come out, do what he had to do and had people come back to do a very expensive repair.
Your concerns are understood regarding the contractor that serviced your dishwasher. Are you still in need of assistance with the repair?

We’ve had American Home Shield for quite a long time and we always had good service with them before. This is the only time we’ve ever had an issue and it was an issue. It wasn’t like the contractor came out twice, made a mistake and had to fix it again. I can live with that. But it was year. What we had to go through was not acceptable. This company was out there 12 times trying to fix the refrigerator. In nine of those times, they didn’t know what they were doing. The freezer kept freezing over and there were ice crystals over everything.
The first time, American Home Shield sent Sears out and they fixed what you would expect the problem to be – the fan. But after that, for some reason, American Home Shield started working with this other company and it was just a mess. We had to throw food out three times because they’d say the fridge was fixed but then it wasn’t. We spent hundreds of dollars worth of food. For 11 months, this company played around with the fridge instead of replacing it. But American Home Shield refused to assign another company to us until finally, they sent another. This third company tried to fix two things and finally said the fridge was not worth fixing. We are finally in the process of getting a replacement instead.
We’re now waiting for the replacement to be delivered. It has been about a week. But we had to purchase a fridge first then American Home Shield would reimburse us a certain amount. It was a decent settlement. But I don’t know what somebody would do if they didn’t have the money to do that. American Home Shield had given us options but we had a small size space to put one in and they didn’t have the options we needed.
Also, when you call for service, it goes over to the Philippines and you can never talk to anybody higher up than that person. If you have a complaint and you wanna go to a supervisor, there’s no way. They won’t give you any number to anybody in the States or anybody that can handle your request. Up until my last call with them, they would not even give me the phone number or address to their home office.

Usually when I went online to make a form for something, I got an answer right away, and then whoever Home Shield sent notified me right away that they would be out. And then that company would contact me again and let me know between what time. So, sometimes Home Shield did all right. I only have one contractor at one time that I didn't care for. It was a while back. I called the company and told them, “Don’t send that person back out to my house.” That was with the air condition. But for the most part, I’ve been satisfied with everybody else.
The microwave now works fine. The Astro Appliance tech replaced three of those switches that are inside an electric panel where you just press your buttons. He checked the outlet and he pulled that aloose, and he found out. Because before, the microwave wasn't saying and one day it was working. The next day we tried to use it, it wouldn’t light up and it wasn’t the outlet that you plug it into. It was behind the panel which you press for when you get ready to heat something up. But then yesterday, I broiled a steak so I turned the vent fan on because my smoke detectors were going off. But then when I was finished with the steak, it came on automatically and then it wouldn’t turn off. You couldn't press the buttons for the vent to go off. So, I unplugged it and then I plugged it back. It's working, but I haven't used the vent. So, I don’t know what else is going on with that. But other than that, everything was working fine until that did it yesterday.

American Home Shield was doing a lot of TV advertising and I heard about them there. I have some banker friends and they're very persnickety. They bought the home warranty and they had two appliances fail the first year and they had to be replaced completely. They said AHS was professional about the whole thing and didn't complain or drag their feet. The only thing about AHS is that it’s hard to contact them. One time, I did the claim by phone and one time, I did it by computer but it took me a long time to find the number to call them. When it says, “Contact us,” that ought to mean “contact us”.
I had a law partner for 27 years and he always told me to fix appliances. When he died, I knew I was in the woods because I grew up in an apartment in New York. So, I immediately bought the home warranty. AHS saved my life. The first time I called them, it was because my dishwasher wasn't working and it turned out there was a switch I had turned off, which was a silly thing, but I didn't know it existed. So, it was worth it for me to pay $100 to have somebody come out and explain to me what order to do things in.
I signed up with American Home Shield in July and this is the second time I've called them out. I discovered the problem on a late Tuesday afternoon and the contractor couldn't make it out until Friday but that's just the way it works. Once they got here, the guy went right to work. He stayed about 45 minutes and he said that I needed a part. My washing machine is an old one and they were able to diagnose the problem and find the part. They came back with the part on Monday and fixed it. They cleaned up the area and didn't leave grease marks. They worked the whole time they were here and they got it done. They took care of it, they were polite, and they left.
One of my co-workers said that if my air conditioner goes out, all that AHS would do is give me $3,000. I'm only paying 500 a year, so that seems like a pretty good return to me. They also fixed my washer. A home warranty is a brilliant concept and I hope AHS could financially survive as in not go out of business. I paid the whole year upfront and I really liked it. It was just one thing where I didn't have to worry about the bill coming in every month. I was confident that AHS was gonna help me and be there for me.

The tech from Aces Garage Door Repair and Installation worked on my garage door opener. He replaced the computer board and that did not do it, so he had to come back a week later. It was then the sensors. So, I appreciated the guy. He was very nice and quick to diagnose it. A year ago, last October, I had an experience with a plumber, and I felt like sometimes American Home Shield does not choose the best companies. I had sewage that my toilet backed up into my shower and it was a mess. So, I called somebody. The guy who came out did something on the front lawn where the sewer line was, and he had to pull all the junk out and the toilet paper on my lawn. Then he left it and he did not clean it up. I had a bad hip and I could not bend down, and he said, "Oh no, I'm not allowed to touch that." That did not sound very professional at all, so I was not happy with it.
That contractor also did not have cameras that go down in the sewers. In other words, he said, "Oh, they're too expensive." The problem repeated, and I had the city come out and they did it for absolutely free. They put the camera down there and found out that it was all tree roots. So, the first plumber did not do anything. So, sometimes, I get people that are not very professional. I'm not happy that the price keeps going up, too. I started at 46 and now it's at 54. Then, when somebody comes out, it's $75, and that is a fee too. So in the five years that I've had it, I've put out quite a bit. It's $500 a year, so it is a lot, and I keep almost reconsidering if this is worth it. One other thing is that when I'm having a problem, it is difficult to get ahold of AHS. One time, I waited for 15 minutes until I spoke with a real person.

We've had them come out a few times and we've had one time since our last visit where it slipped again. He's doing everything he can. We're very happy with the service. He's done a lot, but it's a hard fix. And so, he's gotta figure it out and he's doing a good job.

The electrical claim was fantastic. The contractor came out the next day. He probably spent five minutes listening to what the problem was, looking at the outlet, and he knew pretty quickly what was wrong. He was able to fix it in that visit and took care of everything. And it didn't cost me anything extra. I was glad that was my first encounter, 'cause the next one was not so great. I wasn't upset with the contractor. I was not pleased with the coverage of the warranty from American Home Shield. I have two gas furnaces in my attic, and both the gas regulators that were right there on the side of furnace and control the gas that went into them to make them work were both leaking and the gas company had come out and red tagged them. The gas company told me I needed a plumber to come out and fix that, to replace them. So, I had told AHS I needed a plumber, and they did what I asked for and sent out a plumber.
A plumber came out, and I had to pay the service fee. The plumber looked at them and said he couldn't do anything with it 'cause he was not an HVAC guy. He called his company and they said they could try to get one of their HVAC guys to come out. The temperatures were in the 30's during the day here and I had no heat. So, we got on the phone with the warranty company, and they would not let them do that. They would not let them work that out within their company. They had to go through a whole separate process. They charged me a separate service fee because it was a different industry, rather than let this company take care of it within themselves.
I could've paid $25 to this company to send another service guy out instead of another $75 for a separate call. When they finally got someone to come out, the guy went up in the attic and said it was our regulator and I said that was what the gas company said. After all that, the home warranty company said they do not cover that and that was not part of my my furnace and they didn't cover gas regulators. They could've told me that before I paid them $150. I'm not gonna be renewing my home warranty. My realtor gave AHS to me when I bought the house, so that was nice of him. But to me, it seems pointless. But the guys at the HVAC place, Guaranteed Services were phenomenal. They knew exactly what they were looking at. They ordered the part and the day the part showed up, they got me on the schedule for the very next morning, and they came out and had the parts installed within 20 minutes.
I was unhappy with AHS. I felt like they took a whole lot of money from me to do nothing, other than call a company to come out and do something, which I could've done. When I told them that my gas regulators to the furnace were leaking and that was what was needed to be fixed, they could have just flat out said they didn't cover that instead of charging me the $75 to send somebody out, and then ending up sending out two contractors, so it cost me $150. I felt that was a dishonesty.

When my toilet would not stop running and the water heater was leaking, I filed a claim with American Home Shield. Their website was very good and using it was easy. When the contractor came out the first time, they fixed the toilet, but the water heater had to be replaced. They waited for it to get in and it took about two days, which wasn't long at all. They then scheduled time and came back out. They did it in the evening, which was convenient and even more helpful because of my work schedule. They fixed it quickly and in a professional manner, then they left.

We've gotten the official word for it and the microwave has been ordered. It seemed like everything was okay. We had to have our refrigerator replaced. We've got the refrigerator in and now we're waiting on the remuneration for that.

I had a corroded hot water heater and American Home Shield sent out Hardy Plumbing. They were very prompt in getting in touch with me and they were extremely prompt in getting here to help us, which was great because I did have a big family coming in for Christmas. They were very wise in that they asked me to send them a photo of what was there and they asked me to send them measurements of the doorway getting down to the cellar. They fixed it when they came out and I have nice hot water.
I had a call-in two weeks ago because my furnace went out over the weekend and no one ever called me. I called American Home Shield and they said they had not been able to find an HVAC person to help me. I told them to cancel it. So I'm still without heat, but I have a company that has a maintenance agreement with me and I already paid for the winter service. It is a maintenance situation, but if it’s a repair situation, then I’ll call American Home Shield. My concern is that there was some problem in finding somebody working with HVAC on the weekend. It is a problem if they can't get service. But with the plumber, they jumped on it right away. This particular plumber was even working on the weekend.
I've been with American Home Shield for many years. A couple of years ago at my other home in Russell, I had an appliance vendor and after they came, I noticed that a part of my front of my icemaker had been broken off. And they denied the claim. There was something not right about those people. Also, it’s a different market. It’s not Washington, Georgia. So far, I've been pleased with American Home Shield in my Georgia property.

But when I had no heat and called the number I’m supposed to call, the contractor who came was wonderful. It took him three visits, but he kept me updated and let me know when he was on the way. He came right away and tried to solve the problem, but it didn’t work. Then he came back again the same day, finally figured it out and solved the problem. He discovered that he was gonna have to replace some parts, which took a few days to come in. He came back as soon as possible and the heat has been fine.

But, other than that, it went okay. They were quick, they fixed the issue within minutes. They knew exactly what was the problem. So, it turned out good. American Home Shield is great. The process was quick and the AHS automated system took care of everything. I didn't have to speak to a representative. When I make claims with AHS, I call over the phone and speak to a person. I don't go through the prompts. I know you can request service online, but I’ve tried that before and my experience wasn’t the best. I prefer to speak with a live representative so that I know upfront and so that I can ask questions in terms of what to expect. Sometimes when you have the service calls and those technicians come out, some of them will do the repair and you pay the $75 service fee. But some would say that it’s gonna be an additional cost.
I had a service request with AHS that was kind of an add-on to do a drywall repair. Initially, I had a request for a plumbing leak where the pipes had to be replaced and so the plumbers had to open an access hole. The tech came to replace that. The work itself was fine and it was better than the other company that AHS sent a couple of years back. The only thing that was a little surprising was I had to pay an additional cost. He said he had to cut a larger hole and repair that drywall. That was an additional cost that wasn’t covered by AHS. I paid it because I wanted to have the matter closed out so I could get the ceiling repainted.
I’ve been with AHS for maybe more than 13 years and as a matter of fact, I have them on another property. They’ve been good. I’ve had some experiences like the recent issue that I had where this matter was just fixed and I had to request other companies to come out instead of the companies that they sent. This doesn't apply to everybody, though. When some of the technicians come and if they don't wanna do the work, they would say that the issue was caused by something else. Based on what is placed on the ticket when they complete the order, they write what they were doing.
An example was when I had was a plumbing leak. I noticed that every time I turned the AC on, water was coming from underneath the AC. It seemed like someone was taking a cup and just pouring water down to the next floor. I called AHS for several service requests. They were always diligent in sending someone out. The companies that came out kept on telling me it was condensation, but it couldn't be condensation because of how the water was literally draining. Finally, after about two years with the issue, a technician came and said it was not condensation and he had to open up the ceiling. When he did, he saw the leak and a plumber had to come out. They fixed the matter but it took several service requests, so it just depends on the technician.
If I have a good experience with a company, I just request them back when I have a similar problem. I think sometimes that if a contractor feels like they're not going to make a lot of money or they're limited to how much they can charge, then they're not interested in doing the work. That’s been my experience. If I have a plumbing matter, I call AHS and tell them who I want to come because they’ve been here before. They work and they don't tell me it's this when it’s something else.
If I had a bad problem with a company and tell AHS I don't want that specific company, they’ve never said, “No, you have to take this person.” They immediately address it. The only thing is they can’t control how the technicians respond to the customer. I can’t expect them to do that. The issues I’ve had were with the company. But I know how to deal with the companies now. I watch what they do and I ask questions.

With AHS, every time I call, they cover my claim if it's a covered item. If it's not, they tell me and then I work it out with the contractor. They’ve always only sent quality people to us. The technician from Mt. Lake Pool & Patio was very good. He personally told me that if we do have a problem, he would come out and readjust or repair if something needed to be done. But when they did the repairs, the pool was already closed for the season. So we won’t know if we’re gonna have any additional leaks or problems until we reopen it in the spring. Unfortunately, it’ll be more than three months from the time that they were there.
The young girl at the office said that if we have a problem, we're gonna have to pay another service fee for them to come out. But I don’t feel that that is correct. If it’s within 90 days, it’s not an issue. It’s like a re-call. But that was not explained to me clearly at the time. If I had known that, we would’ve waited until the spring. There has to be a bit clearer understanding of the contract when a call is made. I would think that American Home Shield would know a situation like this and say that if you're gonna close the pool soon, maybe you should wait.
When I called the office, the girl there said that it was my choice whether to have the technician do the repair before or after closing. But we were losing a lot of water prior to cleaning the pool and being able to drain it to empty the pipes before we could get it repaired. We couldn’t afford to have him take the pump, not knowing how long he would have it to do the refurbishing. It was gonna be more costly for us to hold off on closing it. The water was leaking and it was running up our water bill. When the pool level drops to a certain amount, you have to hook up your hose and add water. If it gets below the skimmer basket, it causes problems with the motor and with filtering.
I always call when I submit claims. I've been told that I can do it online but I’d rather talk to a live person. They seem to be very helpful and I'm just hoping that when I call, American Home Shield will be the one that won't charge me. It really is gonna come down to them, not necessarily the contractor. American Home Shield should look at the records, see the timing of it and not charge us to have them go back out if there is a problem for the same issue.

We, however, had people coming out for our plumbing issue, and we paid $75 for American Home Shield to tell them, "Oh, we don't cover that part." And then, I don't know if it was AHS or the contractor, but there was total miscommunication. We never heard from anybody. This went on for quite some time. My recent claims experience with American Home Shield was terrible. I had two contractors come out and they tried to get me for a process that wasn’t necessary since there was a hole in the pipe. The guy wanted to flush for $500. It was ridiculous. I chased him off the job and got my own plumber. He replaced the line as it should have been done.
Also, I have a gas-operated fireplace in the family room. It did not work and needed some parts. I called up AHS and explained to the person what it was. It was not a heater per se. It was an actual fireplace but gas-operated and I had gas logs in the whole bed. They sent someone out. He came and spent about half an hour, then he said that he had to order a part. He was supposed to call me with what the cause was, but I didn’t hear back from him.
I called AHS and they told me that it was a wall heater and that it was not covered. I told them it was not classified as such. It’s a Heatilator fireplace. I had told them all this prior to them sending a person out, and they did anyway. Then they rejected the claim and charged me a $100 for the man to come out. I tried to say I was not responsible for him, but they have no record of the call. This has happened a couple of times in the past so I figured I've had enough and canceled with AHS.

Greenway is the other contractor that comes out and he's fine and good as well. We had an airconditioning unit replaced by them. However, I don’t like the new co-pay of AHS. I think that 100 bucks is too much. That’s a lot when all the other companies are 65 or 75. I think AHS might lose people just because of that $100. But AHS is always my first choice.

I love American Home Shield. I have a $75 deductible for no matter how many things that are in the house. When I call, I just pay for the trip. They pay for the parts and labor. When Sears came to fix my dryer, all the tech had to do was really clean the lint. Then he came up to fix my dishwasher because I had to clean that too then he decided to vacuum the back of my refrigerator. The tech charged me $81 for himself and said that I had to pay AHS my deductible on top of that. I found out it wasn’t true though and I shouldn’t have paid him anything.
I didn’t get it back, but American Home Shield covered my dishwasher, which was a couple of thousand dollars. They also covered my washer and I got $630. I got the washer, which cost me 700, but it’s still better than having to take out 700 that you don’t have out of your pocket. I'd tell others to take AHS because it costs me $50 a month and I don’t worry that I have to replace items.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Lucie. I will contact you to make sure that your accounting issue is resolved.

The button on my microwave broke. It's the one that turns on the light on the microwave above the stove. ARO Appliance Repair was the contractor AHS sent and they replaced the inner parts of the button. It's a unit that works as a fan too. If you press into the mechanism, it's not popping back out like it should. It's the exact same part but now, it's another piece of the part that's not working. But I haven't turned it in yet because it's still able to turn on and off the fan. It seems like it's gonna break any minute though. I have the highest-end model of microwave. I spent over $600 for it and it's only a couple years old, so I'm shocked. It's a Kenmore Elite.
The experience I had with the microwave was fine. It only took a week to do and although it seems like it's gonna break again, I don't blame AHS for it. AHS is okay, but it took me five months to get my refrigerator fixed last year when it stopped cooling. I had my old refrigerator in the garage so I put all my food in there. For five months, I had to go out to the garage to get my food. AHS kept stalling telling me that the part was not yet there. I never heard back from them for three weeks. Finally, I started calling them and I told them that if something was wrong, I needed to hear from them, but they weren't calling me. It took me forever to call them and get someone with an answer that they were sorry about everything.
I got "sorry" from everybody for a month. I told them to give me somebody else who was not sorry and who could do something for me. Finally, AHS replaced my refrigerator. It's a different brand and it's not as good as the one I had, but it seems like it's equal to it. I'm okay with it. After the refrigerator incident, I was gonna quit AHS since my contract was up. But after the incident with the microwave, I was more satisfied. It's as long as I don't have to talk to them and deal with them because I don't get anywhere that way. With my microwave, I was pleased about not having to go through all the drama that I went through before.
When I put my order in to fix the microwave, it was cut and dry. They sent out the repairman and I dealt with him. He was fine and he called me back. He returned my calls too. The other guy that I dealt with with the refrigerator was different. He never called me back and he never returned the call. He was supposed to call me about the part. He never gave me any progress about anything. I was dissatisfied.

I’ve had problems with things like my dishwasher, washer, and dryer. With the washer, the first person that came out didn't wanna work on it because they said it was a two-man job. But that wasn’t American Home Shield’s problem. It was the person that came out.
The last time I called American Home Shield for a claim and they assigned me to ABM Appliances and Electronic Services. They were out on the 26th and they had to come back out. This last time the tech came out for our refrigerator, it was working so he just cleaned the coils on the back. When I called them yesterday, no one called me back. I called them twice today and I finally got them and the tech said he had ordered the parts, which is the same part that they had put on the refrigerator before. The fan was replaced three times. Now, I have to wait until Saturday or Monday. We are out of a refrigerator until the tech comes back. Other than that, I had no problem with the contractor. The tech has been pretty good. This same fellow worked on our dishwasher and our refrigerator. The only problem I have is it takes so long to get parts.

I asked if the house had any mildew or mold buildup within the furnace, and he confirmed because of the heat, it killed most of it. So, I just need to pay someone to come through and clean up the dust.
I've been with American Home Shield since I’ve owned this home for about a month and a half. I also had them when I bought my first house back in 2011. I used them on my garbage disposal which was making a big noise. I couldn’t see what it was and it turned out it was a big plastic piece stuck on the inside where with my flash, I couldn’t see. They were able to reach it and find it. I used AHS three times already. It’s a really good program and seems to be working out well. This time around, these guys seemed to be more willing to do warranty claims. The pay was a little bit different. It was lesser than what they would normally get. The treatment is the same. I just think the contractors are a lot more happier about doing warranty work than they were.
For the claims process, they should have a better way to understand exactly what I can get out of my claims. I had a question come up about what type of service I could get done, and it was more about checkup and not really too much work. But every time I had a question, I always chatted with them online and they quickly answered it.

The face bowl and the sink were stopped up in my bathroom and when I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield, I had some problems with the website, so it was probably not the best. It was fine this time because I only had one issue but the service before that wasn't too friendly when I had an electrical issue. There were three lights that were not coming on when I flipped the switch. When the gentleman came out, he said he could only do one service call because that was what I had requested and I needed to call back. When I tried to call the company, he didn't wait. He didn't bother for AHS to answer the phone. He was in the truck and he waited a few minutes, but it took longer for AHS to respond to the call. He said that if I got somebody, they could call him or they would call him back.
I ended up going out of town. When I got back, I called and the representative from AHS told me that since I wanted more than one thing serviced, I needed to make a phone call to request that because the online system isn't equipped for multiple calls. There’s no place there that tells me that if I want more things, I need to do more stuff. Had I talked to somebody while the contractor was there, then they could have amended it but since it was already done and it was on, I could do another service call.
I had plumbing in the kitchen and a plumbing issue in the bathroom, and the contractor, Water Control, took care both of them. I had more than one fixture and he said that it had a lifetime warranty. We could call them and the fixtures would be replaced. When the fixtures come in, he would come back out. He was quite helpful and he went beyond. He was very accommodating. Then, I had the guy who came for the stove. He spent some time trying to fix the stove, then he said he needed to order a part. I ended up having to call back because he never came back. Apparently, the guy that fixed the stove had resigned or no longer works there. AHS sent another guy out who didn't know what he was coming for. I told him that they were supposed to be doing in a part and he said they didn’t even have any parts and they need to order them.
I used to be able to pay for the service call once it was completed using my bank but AHS is no longer able to do that. They may have sent something and said something, but I didn't see it. With the stove, the contractor started working on it in one month and they finished it eight weeks later. I paid eight weeks in advance for the service that wasn't completed. Now the guy with the lights, I paid $125 for him to switch out a plug. I told him that I could have hired an electrician for $40 and had that done. The beauty is getting stuff done that I need in a bulk. If three things are broken and I can get three things fixed for $125 that's fine. But if I have to call three times to get three things fixed, $400 is not efficient. I will be canceling AHS in February as soon as I can get to February and not forget.

I’m new to the state so I don’t know how the weather is in the winter, but we have heaters in the house to keep us warm. They were plugged in and they were on, then we noticed how cold the house was and there was no heat. It wouldn’t do anything so we called Home Shield and when my husband got off the phone, he complained that he couldn’t understand who he was speaking with in the call center. They also gave us a different contractor first and we would have had to wait five days. We were having a cold front here so it was a little disappointing that they couldn’t get someone local in our area. My husband told the first one that we need somebody out and we couldn't wait that long. We ended up waiting a day shorter anyway, because by the time Home Shield got Strickland’s Heating & Air to come out here, there was a holiday in there somewhere so that made it even more difficult.
Even Strickland doesn’t come to this area normally because he’s over an hour away. Still, he was great and very nice. He put new fuses in and it’s a good thing we were in South Carolina and not Michigan. There was no guarantee on the furnace. It may or may not go out again. Our contractors said there are contractors in this area, but apparently, they must not have been able to work anything out with them. Since we’re new to this home and we're in a rural area, we’re not used to this, but our contractors said Home Shield is very good to work with. They take care of their contractors and we just had an oddball experience because of that holiday in there.

My recent claim with AHS was for my refrigerator. They had sent some people out here several times before for it not cooling. And the last time, they replaced a whole bunch of parts and it still didn't work. I called American Home Shield and complained that I was paying them $75 every couple of weeks to have somebody come out here and it wasn’t being repaired, and I was tired of paying a service call for stuff that wasn’t being fixed and still not fixed right. But I’m now requesting Sears and I said to not send back anybody else. Cause the other people they kept sending out, those people worked on the ice maker and it’s still not working, but I’m not paying another $75 to have someone come out, look at my icemaker again. Sears did not work on that. Sears replaced my compressor.
I used Bay to Bay, and then their procedure is to send somebody out to diagnose the problem. And they came out three times. They just stood in front of the refrigerator and said, “It’s not working and we’ll order some parts. And when the parts come in, we’ll reschedule you to get the repairs.” And I would wait another week or so and then the parts would come in and they would send somebody out. They replaced the parts, and the parts they replaced weren’t the problem.
Finally, Sears came out and the guy walked in, looked at the refrigerator and checked it out, said the compressor was bad, ordered one from Orlando, and said that the part would be here in a couple of hours. And they had it delivered from Orlando, which is like an hour away. And the tech came back and put the compressor in and refrigerator’s been working. So, that’s why I decided just to request Sears every time.
I’ve had AHS for two years now, and probably when it comes time to renew, I will probably get into using Sears Home Warranty instead of American Home Shield. They have a better response. I don’t think AHS should be charging me if they send the tech out and I still have the persistent problem, that it’s not being repaired. I don’t think I should be paying $75 every time they wanna send somebody out.
Good Morning Lance,
Thank you for sharing your experience with AHS. I apologize that it took several visits for your ice maker to be repaired, however, I am happy that Sears could get the issue resolved. Thank you for allowing us to be the shield. We appreciate the feedback regarding the other appliance companies. We are working towards new options that will benefit our customers more, stay tuned. The first couple of times I had an issue with my appliances, American Home Shield sent these rogue people, and then I finally got a local guy. When I had another appliance issue, I called American Home Shield and asked for an actual Whirlpool distributor or appliance specialist, and that's how I found the best way to handle the claim, but it was hard to get through to the system to talk to a person. But I figured out how to get to the phone tree and speak to a live person and requested a Whirlpool person.
I've had the same contractor before, and he is very professional. He is an established person. He knew exactly what he was doing. One thing I like about it is that he is for that product, and he has spare parts on his vehicle. So I was able to have him come in and fix the problem. But in the past, when American Home Shield sent me some of these rouge people, it took two months to get a part fixed. When you put a claim in, they should have somebody that represents that product or the specialist in it, not somebody that has their own business and you never know if they're gonna show up or not.
I've also had American Home Shield when I was in Indiana and I had no issues. But I've had a few issues down here in the south. It's all had to do with some of the contractors they hire. Number one, they assigned a person to me a couple of years ago for my air conditioner. That person was a no-show and I ended up Googling it, and that company's address was an abandoned building. So it was fake, and they had nothing but bad reviews. And then I found out from a friend of mine that American Home Shield sent the same company to him. When the guy showed up, he turned around and told him to get in his truck and get out of there. He called American Home Shield and told them that he had arrested that guy before and he is a felon. So there was no background check. And that's my biggest problem with them down here. I've had some sketchy people show up at my house.
Last year, I was thoroughly frustrated when I couldn't get ahold of anybody for my air conditioning problem. So I hired my own person that did it which kinda defeat the whole purpose because I'm paying for an American Home Shield warranty service. I had to pay for it myself and go outside of the company because they would never get back with me.

Submitting claims through American Home Shield is very easy. I usually call in and their customer service is amazing. Their contractors have been awesome too. My dishwasher couldn’t be fixed, so American Home Shield had to buy a new one, and the guy who installed it was great. My husband is out of town a lot, and this guy was really concerned and he made sure everything was just like I needed it before he left. I also had a claim with my dryer, which only needed a belt and a bearing, and a contractor came back the next week and repaired that.

We've used American Home Shield for a number of years and we've been very happy with them. We have an ice maker that's covered by American Home Shield, a freestanding KitchenAid ice maker. It had a problem in July, it got fixed about two weeks ago. There is absolutely nothing in their contract that gives them any time limit on when they have to repair something. That is a freestanding ice maker and it's in a bar. The guy that they sent out towards the beginning was a man that weighed about 350 pounds and he barely fit his body behind the bar. For some reason, he asked us if we could take the icemaker out from behind the bar and put it outside for him. And I said, "Uh-huh. I lift weight too. I can bench 500 pounds."
I went on the internet to try and find out who owned them and try to speak to a real person. I never got that courtesy. The first one that they sent one was called Hornet. And I remember that name because it stung so bad. The girl promised that she'd get it picked up that day, and when the part got it, that they could get it fixed. And then, she wouldn't stand by that promise unless we took the ice maker out. So when they finally got it fixed and I had to stick with them for that fix, it was a temporary fix. They put it back in. When it finally came back, before they had even left the house, the light didn't come on, like a refrigerator light comes on when you open up the door. And their response was, "We'll just have to take it out again." I had this gaping hole for two weeks.
So AHS then called out another company, Southern Comfort. They were great. They did what they could but they couldn't find the part. American Home Shield jumped through hoops and found the part. It took about two weeks. And then when the part came in, the part was defective, and they didn't open up the box till they got here. American Home Shield, most of the time, they've been great. On the ice maker though, they were horrific.

The contractor from National Platinum Service came out very timely and looked at the problem. I had originally tried to discover what the problem was because the refrigerator had the smart capability. I just put the phone up to the little transmitter that’s on the refrigerator and it came back and gave us a fault. As it turned out, the fault was incorrect. When the technician came over he identified it as a different fault, which was the compressor fan that operates in a series. So if the fan fails the compressor fails. But unfortunately, that wasn’t the total problem.
The refrigerator never recovered and for about five days it remained useless, without the fault of anybody at this point. In other words, the service people did a very expeditious job with the information that they had. So, after Thanksgiving, we had to call them back for a review to analyze the problem, which they did. They discovered that the compressor system was inoperative. So now they’re in the process of ordering that part. So far it’s been seamless. Other than the fact there was a little duration time with regard to their availability because we had a long weekend for Thanksgiving.
In a previous experience AHS sent me somebody totally inept for an air conditioning and heating problem. The people they sent had no clue what was going on. They couldn’t analyze it properly. They wanted me to cut a hole in my roof to get a new system in. I said, “You gotta be kidding me.” So, when all of this evolved it was the service provider that they sent us to that were totally inept and they were trying to drive the price up. So we had another professional to come in and normally does commercial work, and he identified the problem as a simple access to the software in the heater. It was very, very high tech, and it told us exactly what to do. It turned out to be a $950 issue. The compressor was changed within a couple of days.
AHS has accomplished everything else since that bad event. But before AHS send some service representatives out they should go back and do a little bit of background checks on them. When we did go find out based on what was available to us the feedback for that contractor were all negative. So AHS has to take a separate step towards making sure the quality of the people that they’re gonna recommend on their side and not leave it to me by virtue of experience to have them come out and deal with them. It was a protracted situation. We were without heat for close to three weeks during the wintertime and it was very disconcerting. And it reflects on them only in that aspect that they recommended that contractor.

I submitted a claim to AHS because the pool pump failed. I filed the claim online but the website doesn’t allow us to clearly communicate the root cause of the problem. We had to have multiple callbacks with their subcontractor to get it resolved correctly. By the time the contractors came out and said they fixed it, I went back, “No, you didn’t.” We had to reopen the claim and then the whole thing took two and a half weeks to resolve. So, not being able to clearly communicate on the website and then not being able to clearly communicate with the subcontractor ended up me having my pool down for two and a half weeks. But now, it’s been properly repaired and it’s all working fine.

A lot of the maintenance care is not covered through American Home Shield. But their claims process is easy. When my water heater was not working and it kept shutting off, they sent out S.A.P. Home Repair and the tech there said that it was my gas valve. The first time he came out, he didn’t see that it was marking or that the gas meter was having any problem. But when I called them out a second time, it was showing it. When the tech came to do the actual repair, he asked me who had turned the water heater back on. I said it was me because it was turning off every day. I went a week where I was waiting on them to come fix it, but I had to keep turning the water heater on to have hot water on the days that it would turn off. On that day, he said it no longer showed the error code. He went ahead and did the repair still.

Repair after repair has always been their preferred course of action, but this time they were sending a new washing machine. After 2 weeks, the company comes to install it today. He started it and said check it in about 20 minutes. When we checked it (before 20 min), it was spraying water on the wall behind the washing machine onto the electrical outlet. The service tech was called, he never called back and then didn't answer his phone when we called back. We have now spent 2 hours on the phone with AHS, mostly on hold and being put off. He told me if I'd pay him for 4 hours - $500 he'd come back and figure out my problem. I declined. He left and did not do the work. I received a call from AHS saying they wouldn't cover electrical repair because I had code violations per their electrical contractor. I have since hired a licensed electrician who has correctly fixed my electrical. They discovered that the AHS electrician installed 3 switches but never wired them. I have been with AHS since November 2011; that relationship just ended - November 2019. In recent years, it seems the quality of contractors AHS partners with diminished significantly. The amount of follow-up I have had to do just to have my service request completed has been downright ridiculous. In March of 2019, I couldn't reach the assigned contractor for two weeks to schedule. Once I was able to get them out to my home, they weren't able to fix the issue - needed a part. Understandable, but three weeks later - still nothing. Each time I called AHS, no accountability. All they offered was to call the company (who wasn't answering or returning their calls). Finally, after weeks of asking, I was able to have another company assigned to complete the job. I was irritated, but didn't say or think much of it - isolated situation, or so I thought.
In October, I placed a service request for plumbing. My bathroom sink was leaking. That company came out right away, but needed a part to finish the job. And again, 5 weeks later - still calling AHS asking for a status. Maybe it is just me, but I don't think that I should be calling AHS each and every week regarding my ACTIVE/OPEN service requests - for 5 weeks straight; only to receive the same status. I tried escalating my issue to no avail. To make matters worse, the tech turned the water on under the sink (I'd turned it off due to the leak) in order to diagnose the issue and failed to turn the water back off. I didn't discover the issue for almost a week since no one was using the bathroom due to the plumbing issue. How did I discover it you ask? Well, the water on the bathroom floor was a great indicator - ruined the inside of my cabinet floor. Then I placed a service call at the beginning of November for my heat (both systems).
The company sent fixed one (downstairs) but could not fix the other (upstairs - where we sleep). Three weeks later, I am STILL calling for a status update. As a faithful, paying customer, who has never missed or been late on a payment, I think I deserve better. Speaking to the retention department only made it more evident it was time to leave AHS. The rep asked me why I wanted to cancel. I explained the situation, and he simply responded with: "Ok, I have submitted your cancellation request. Have a great day" - no apologies, no sympathy, no "how can we fix this?" - NOTHING! Goodbye!

All the reviews MUST be paid for or fake. I have purchase the home warranty as a first time home buyer and was like awesome great reviews.... Boy was I wrong. I have been waiting over 6 months since my initial request on a home warranty request for a broken fridge and there is still no closure to the initial work order. I am waiting on a secondary check since they initially didn't pay me the correct amount owed. I put in a work order for a fridge over 6 months ago. Extremely short version- after paying the initial service fee I had someone come to my house in an unmarked van, no clothing with a company logo, and spoke hardly any English. If it weren't for them initiating the home warranty name and servicing of my fridge I would not have let them in my house.
They spoke very broken English, and summarized that they needed to replace the motherboard of my fridge after doing very little work/diagnostics. I wanted a second more professional opinion. When I requested this I was denied by the home warranty as they sent a "professional". I then purchased (out of pocket) a professional opinion from a LG certified technician. That technician said it was not related to the motherboard and it was a sealed system issue. I then went back to the home warranty to prove this issue to get it fixed.
After numerous phone calls at this point, many long hours on the phone, and being hung up on, placed on hold for over 30 minutes at a time I was then lied to numerous times, tried to be charged additional service fees and skirting around taking any responsibility whatsoever. After finally then getting a certified technician to come out who was stellar, said the fridge was unfixable and no amount of replacement parts would fix our issue. We then were able to get to the purchasing department. After following up numerous times before they tried to "close out" our work order again (in order to continuously charge us the initial fee). Each time we had to follow up multiple times to ensure the correct information was in the account and we were receiving the correct next step requested.
When we caught employees in lies we would be hung up on to then call back. Each call took an average of 2 hours. We then called and requested a fridge that was LESS than our original fridge cost and the cover of the home warranty. When 3 weeks later no one had contacted us to schedule a fridge delivery I called to check on the status. When I called the delivery company they had no such records. When I called the home warranty, after 2 hours on the call they said the fridge was on back order for another 3 months! No notice, no communication. I requested cash in lieu of service due to the lack of faith I would be reimbursed due to the current track record. After much approval I was notified a check would be processed on Friday and I would receive it in 7-10 days.
After 2 weeks I called back to see what was happening. They said it had not been processed and would I like to process it now? WHY would I need to call to confirm processing of this check, now again to wait 2 weeks to get the check. Again I had not received the check after 2 more weeks....This time I was notified I would receive a check that was about $400 less than what was owed. They said I accepted a lesser amount when I requested the original fridge (which I never did and never was notified I was accepting). Only AFTER threatening to take it to a higher authority did I get any response.
They then called back saying they were wrong and a check was being mailed that day (I have email proof), then when I follow up where it was after 2 weeks of still not receiving the second check. I was told the second check could not be processed until the first check was cashed (again never being notified of this). After numerous follow ups, excuses and lies I have still over 6 months later never received the full amount of the check. This is a scam and you will get so frustrated you will give up, cancel your warranty and just buy the item yourself unless you have really strong will and patience.

American Home Shield totally BS when it comes to customer service. Their agents read from a script and are not able offer assistance effectively. They sent out Khalid from Service Mechanics of Tidewater to fix a leak in my dining room. He fixed the leak but shut off water in my kitchen and was unable to get it back working. I called AHS to have someone come out and repair what Khalid had clearly caused. I spoke with Anna, Dena and Joan on 11/25/2019 all whom informed me that the person that I spoke to prior had lied to me when they informed me that they placed a trouble ticket for service.
Dena left me on hold while she went to get a supervisor for 1 hr and 25 minutes at one point forgetting to mute her phone. I listened as she sang a medley of songs. Needless to say, I was unable to get water back into my kitchen yesterday. Today 11/26/2019 after getting no follow up calls from anyone, I called back into AHS, spoke with Grace and she informed me that the other 3 agents lied and DID NOT place any of help tickets that they said they would.

I had a leaky water heater in the garage. I’ve been watching it for a couple of months and then I went, “Okay. There's something definitely wrong here.” It was my second or third claim with AHS. Once you filed a claim the first time, you realize that you just call them and then they're partnered with some people here in Las Vegas and they send out their partner. In this case, it was Air Squad. They were good about scheduling it within a week or so, which was convenient for me. They came out, inspected it, and they ended up replacing the water heater. And because the home was built back in 2001, they had to upgrade a few safety issues by putting a circuit breaker within line of sight of the water heater. A circuit breaker box was inside the house and apparently, that’s a no-no in Las Vegas. So, that was what they did.
I've had American Home Shield since I bought the house on 5 October of last year. I renewed it for another year on 5th of October this year. I never had a warranty like this. I’ve been overseas for a long time, so I didn't know they had these things. But the couple of times that I’ve used it, it seems to be working good. I’m happy. I’d recommend it to other people. As a matter of fact, my sister-in-law, my wife’s sister and her husband just acquired one after they saw what we had gone through.

I had an appliance issue and AHS sent out a tech from Arrow Appliance Repair, but we didn't get it fixed. When he came out, he looked at the model number. He said it was 13 years old and I didn't think it was worth repairing at that age. I purchased a new dishwasher on 11/20 and AHS is supposed to be sending me some money to help with the expense, but I haven't received the check yet. Other than that, I'm going on my second year with AHS and their rate is expensive, but it's fine.

I'm not a handyman nor a handy person, and I know that there are little things that can go wrong. In my previous experience, those are very expensive items that can be taken care of at a low cost. It allows itself for me to be taken advantage of if I didn't know what I'm doing. And so by having a middle person to monitor the service, it will be to my advantage. So, I've had American Home Shield since May of '18. In a recent claim, Three Brothers AC Heating was sent out and they were very friendly. After they finished the job, they explained to me what was wrong with the furnace and that there was some dirt on maybe the ignition or it was clogged and so it does not start. So, Three Brothers did their job and the furnace is now working. Everything went very well.

It upset me that AHS raised my price by $6 but didn’t contact me. I didn’t even know it until they called me. I was told that it was the economy. But still, if something goes wrong, $41 a month is pretty good. When both my toilets were rocking back and forth, I called AHS and within three days, they called me back with the name of the plumbing place. Then a couple of days after that, the guy showed up. And then a couple of days after that, the toilet and all the hoses were replaced. All in all, everything took a little over a week, which was okay.

My experience with American Home Shield has been wonderful. My sister’s, on the other hand, has not been but I've always had good experience. They always send me the right contractors. I’ve always had good contractors and these last people, the plumbing people, were wonderful. I had two bathrooms that they worked on because something was going on in the tanks and I had a sink that was stopped up. They spent lots of time working and getting it going. It’s wonderful to flush the commode again and not worry if it would make a whole lot of noise or run my water bill up. So that was good.
I also have a toilet room that's got one of those little heaters and air conditioner combined in it like they have in the motels. I didn’t like leaving it plugged in when we would leave the house so we had an electrician put in a switch right above. One day after the summer, I couldn’t get the heat on. So I called American Home Shield and they sent a man down. The man came and took everything apart. All of a sudden, he asked if I had gotten a switched that controls it. I told him yes and that it was right over his head. All he did was put the switch on and the heater worked fine. It cost me $100 to learn. But that was good. Then another time, I had someone come and work all day on my dishwasher and I never had a problem. In fact, I've got the warranty on two houses so I’m happy.

I call American Home Shield to make a claim and then do the call prompt for whatever I need. When we submitted our claim for our hot water tank, there was some confusion. We got an email from American Home Shield saying that we would be receiving a check for reimbursement. It said within seven to 10 business days, and then we never got it. I called on day 14, and they said that it was denied. It was resolved, but there should be more communication with what's going on. No one contacted us to tell us that it was denied after they sent an email. My most recent claim was fine, but the tech was not able to fix our washing machine. It's not draining correctly and he tried to snake it. He said that there needs to be a vent put in, and there's no vent. And so, he didn't think that American Home Shield would cover that. He said he would let me know, and I never heard back to see if they would cover it or not.

The microwave was completely not working. No light, no nothing. I called American Home Shield and they said it would take 24 to 48 hours. Not the same day. And then, there was a confusion about when I was going to get the person. I got the person in the email, but it didn't exactly say the time. If they could send us a text message about the name of the person and the time frame, that would be great. I then called All Home Appliance and then they said they thought I already knew the time they were coming. I told them it was not showing us. So then, the lady from All Home told me exactly what time the person was coming, and then they showed up on time, so it went okay. The microwave was fixed in 15 minutes' time. It was a tiny part they needed to replace. The microwave is now working.
I had a wonderful experience with the American Home Shield. I'm so skeptical about any home warranty but I boldly took my step and went with Home Shield because I saw reviews from ConsumerAffairs. They promote customers like me to gain some confidence and trust with these home warranty companies, because there are negative feedback from customers who got burned when they were told, "Oh, no, your coverage won't-- this won't cover, that won't cover,” and all of that. So, ConsumerAffairs motivated me to plug in to Home Shield. Keep leading us consumers in the right direction because we guys need ConsumerAffairs people to tell which company is good and which is not good. And that way, we don't have be burned by signing up with the wrong company.

My dishwasher had no heating, there was some rust on both of the slide-out strays, and there were problems with the front display where the LEDs were not lighting up. It was difficult to tell at first whether there was heat and it just wasn’t lighting up as a selection option on the display, or if there just was no heat. Both were the case so I filed a claim on the American Home Shield website which was incredibly simple to follow. Almost immediately after I submitted, I received an email or a text saying this is who I should expect within the next 48 hours. AHS was very responsive that way. Then, Affordable Appliance came out and did an outstanding job. We would rather have had a new dishwasher, but it was cheaper to fix than to replace so they made that call and we completely understood that. They replaced parts and did the work that was required to fix it. So now, the dishwasher has been working perfectly since they’ve been out.

Sometimes, I use the phone to submit my claims, but I did my claim online this time. The process was easy. Everything was fine with West Sound Plumbing. The claim went off just the way it was supposed to. They sent two guys out and they looked at my appliance and tested it, and they came to the conclusion that it needed to be replaced and they did.
I’m familiar with American Home Shield. I was in the Real Estate business for 47 years. So, I’ve been an advocate of home warranties for years and years. And when we lived in Washington back in the 90s, we always used American Home Shield because that was the only company we could get. But still, American Home Shield is very good.

We had plumbing problems. We had some leaky faucets and there was a constant drip. And it was discovered that we needed to have a new pressure-reducing valve for the house. The technician that came out was very good and very knowledgeable. He knew what the problem was, why it was happening the way it was and he knew right away what to do. They sent their faucet expert. They actually came out as a second opinion. Because the contractors that came out the first time, we were concerned about. We were also a little concerned because in this particular instance, AHS denied the claim. They didn’t cover it, because of not having a pressure valve. The first plumber that came out said we didn’t have one. But then when the second one came out and they dug, they found that we have one. It just had failed.
We called and tried to talk to somebody at American Home Shield to see if they could still cover the plumbing inside the house. And it was very had to talk to their agent, and I don’t think that they understood that we never heard back from American Home Shield on that part of it. We didn’t follow up either but we were hoping that maybe they would cover it since it was the part that failed, and not the fact that there wasn’t one. But the agent couldn’t quite understand what we were asking, we kinda just let it go. We figured there was probably a low chance that they were gonna cover it anyway since the part was something exterior in the home. But overall, we’re pleased with American Home Shield and with their response time and getting things fixed that we needed to get fixed.

Finally, on the third call, AHS gave me All City Appliance. They were very good and when they came, they were quick. As soon as they were assigned, they called within 24 hours. L&M Plumbing came out for a bathroom faucet that was leaking. They fixed those, but after that, I had to call them back up to come back out. It seemed like the pipes were rattling after the tech installed the shut-off valves into the bathroom down to the basement, and he put some shins under the pipes. And I came to find out the Youngstown water pressure's so high right here, and it didn't really resolve the problem because when I turned the cold water on real quick, the pipes rattle and vibrate. I tried to fix it and couldn't get it, and he went down there, put shins and he was checking all the water lines down there.
The hot water doesn't do it. It's just the cold water when I flush the toilet. We have three bathrooms in the house. When you flush the toilet, then that sudden surge will vibrate the pipes. It's kinda annoying now, but I didn't have any problems with that until after he did those pipes. Mike from L&M Plumbing couldn't figure it out, and I don't think there's anything he could do. Mike called Youngstown Water Department and talked to the people over there and told them the situation, but in the area where I live at, it has high pressure in the water line. So, I guess that's what causing that, but other than that, Mike did a great job.
I've had American Home Shield for six years now. I wish they'd have quicker service. There's been a couple times I've had to wait two or three weeks for somebody to come out to get something fixed. They could improve on the time of service with trying to get things coordinated with the contractors or whoever to come out and repair things. There was something a while back ago that we had to wait and wait and wait. There was a faucet in the kitchen sink. I had to have the little spray nozzle replaced, but I had to have the water shut off to the kitchen sink. So, that was out for about a week or so and trying to get dishes and things done there in the kitchen was kind of a pain in the butt. But it just took longer than what I was expecting to have them come out here and get the problem fixed. It eventually got fixed.

And the oven's door also wouldn’t close, and they told me that the hinges were no longer available so they replaced the oven. Everything was great. They got somebody out there pretty quick and got the problem solved.
The only problem that I had with the American Home Shield and J.B. Hunt was when I called American Home Shield about my oven, my oven got delivered, and J.B. Hunt informed me that they don’t actually do install, and American Home Shield informed me that they would. So, instead of calling back and getting something else scheduled, I ended up putting it in myself because I couldn’t wait any longer. And the microwave that got delivered, the trim kit was not measured. The trim kit is too small. So now, I have a big gaping hole in my cabinet that I have to fix. But I didn’t call anybody about that, I just figured it was my mistake and I'm just gonna end up having to fix it.
Overall it was a great experience with AHS. I don’t have to deal with impromptus when I call, I get a person when I call, and that’s very important to me. Any concerns or questions that I had, they answered, and they got somebody out there very quickly and got the problem resolved, and I'm back up and running as if nothing was wrong. Hyde Plumbing came out to fix the hot water heater and to unclog the kitchen sink. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and got the automated system, but then when it asked if I had other problems, I hit, “Yes,” and then it transferred me over to a representative. At that time, she had to put them together as one call, but we got it all straight. She’s really good about doing her job and then I got a quick response from the contractor.
The contractor was very good. He came out. I showed him where the hot water tank was and the sink. So, he went in to the hot water tank, he unplugged it, started draining it, and then came in, got his stuff, and got the drain going. It just took him a few minutes to get the drain going. He was a very professional guy. He cleaned up after himself as soon as he got done. He went out, took care of the hot water tank, waited till it was filled up to make sure we had the water going through it and it was functioning properly while he filled it up. And he told me if I ever need anything, just call AHS again and say, “Hey, send him back out here.”
I also called AHS for the sink shortly after we bought the house and moved in. There was a blockage about 60 feet out from the house. And the contractor ran it out 60 feet. He hit it, but he was trying to make sure he pushed it all out through there. But what the gentleman was telling me from Wayne was that, a lot of times, especially if you got a dishwasher, you run your disposal and your dishwasher at the same time, it will cause the junk in the garbage disposal to pack on the first thing it hit down there. It builds up really quickly and it causes it to back up. The way the drain was built in this house, we cannot run the dishwasher and the garbage disposal at the same time. It’s one or the other, or we’ll end up having the same problem again.

So, I contacted them and said that that company didn't have any spot and I needed someone who could come earlier. They then sent me someone the following Monday from Major Home Appliance Service.
To my sadness, my stove part was not replaceable, but in turn I'm getting my stove replaced. I don't think I've ever had any company replace anything like that, so that's very good for me. But I need to follow up on the actual stove replacement. I tried to leave some messages and I'm waiting for that follow-up. Hopefully, I'll get it this week then I'll be able to use my stove. We just bought this new home and it came with American Home Shield. When we went and took a shower, we actually couldn't turn it on. The technician came out. He looked at it and said that it was an old fitting and would take a week to get the part. He stayed in touch. As soon as the part came in, he came out and fixed it and did a great job and was friendly. I was happy with it.

The knobs on the hot water heater has no control system and the water was scalding hot. Also, the pilot light kept going off even when we lit it. When it stayed on, there was no way to regulate how hot the water got. We have grandkids and we couldn't even use the bathtub for them, I’m afraid that they would be scalded. The system was a mess. I got a welcome call from American Home Shield and in the process, I mentioned something about the hot water. The rep suggested putting me in touch with the claim system, which was what I did.
The contractor called and made the appointment almost immediately. The guy was very helpful, extremely knowledgeable and did the job well. He had to come back and he told me when. He was true to his word and he very prompt and efficient. He explained what had to be done and what he had done so I would know what was going on. Since then, the hot water heater has been working wonderfully. I was completely satisfied with AHS.

My parents had American Home Shield for years, then I started using their service. And now, I've been with them for about 15 years. I’ve heard nightmare stories about warranty companies, but I’ve not had that situation with American Home Shield. So, I stick with them because I’ve had no issues. I had a recent claim with them and the experience was great, as usual. The contractor showed up when they were supposed to and did everything they were supposed to do. Everything went smoothly.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield for an electric issue went fine. What was wrong wasn’t covered in the end, but that’s not their fault. And the electricity was fine, and the tech did the thing that needed to be done, and we paid him, and it was great. With the house that we bought, there was a fan in two different rooms. And for whatever reason, there was only one remote control, which he said, “You should never have one remote with the two fans.” But one of the fans stopped working. So, he had to go in and take something out of the ceiling so that the other fan could run just by the wall or by the chains, instead of by the remote. They both work fine now. It’s just that only one has the remote, and the other one doesn’t. What was fixed didn’t fall under the warranty and I was disappointed with that, but he informed me well and he did a great job. He was efficient and it got fixed in the end. So, you win some, you lose some. [Laughs]
Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is fine. We had an issue with our pool, and the guy came and fixed it. And then we had an issue with our washing machine, and that one was covered. We had two parts replaced. And all the men who have come out have done a great job and have been on time. It’s worked out well.

The guy that came the first couple of times for the refrigerator was really nice but I guess he didn't see everything, and so, we had to have several calls. He didn't fix the problem correctly, and then he screwed a screw that was too long into the chute where your ice comes out. As a result, it stuck out. I had to have him come back and fix that. One issue got fixed but the entire issue wasn’t. I had to have a different guy come out. This last gentleman that came out and put the part in that needed to be in was really excellent. I like him. The refrigerator works now. I bought the house in 2016 and AHS was what the sellers bought. The first couple of times I had to use it, I wasn't happy with the people at all, so then I asked for a different company to come out. I haven't had any problems with this last company that came out.

All Purpose Contractors was great. They really took their time, and they completed the job that we have had an ongoing issue with for over a year with another contractor. Another contractor came out here and they ordered a part, and they said that the part was no longer in stock. They did nothing after that. They came back out and said that they were gonna have to make a new hole in our wall, and they didn’t do that. They didn’t do that kind of work. So, we had to call American Home Shield back up. They sent APC back out here and they got the job done. We’re happy. We've had American Home Shield going on 4 years now and I like that they are quick. When something breaks, we call them and they get somebody out here within a day or two.

We have had 2 policies with AHS for 17mo & have had nothing but problems with them. They raised both policy premiums without notifying us, have denied several claims, told us we had to "wait" for a contractor while our water heater was running water all over the garage & then "denied" our claim when we tried to get some compensation for the new water heater that was obviously needed & documented because we called a contractor to come (after MUCH back & forth we did finally get some money back but with a big warning "this won't happen again"). The final straw was when they tried to send an "F" rated electrician to fix an outlet.
When I complained & asked for a different contractor I was told that this was the ONLY one that was available(really??). So I tried today to cancel both policies only to have to listen to multiple sale pitches from 5 people, have my call cut off & then be told I would have to wait for "customer retention" to call me back in a FEW DAYS. Customer retention is who dropped my call! I was NOT happy & told them that & within 15min got a callback. HOWEVER, to CANCEL our policies it will COST us $45.72 in "administration fees" EVEN though both policies are paid in full through Nov.!! Poor service, worse customer service, concerted effort to NOT pay for claims yet take your money every month without fail. We are so done with being held hostage by AHS.

Please be very aware of your rights and coverage in your contract. AHS hires people that do not speak English and they will foul up your claim call and tell you something is not covered when in actuality it is covered. Then good luck getting them to pay. They will utilize every excuse in order to prevent paying you for a claim. Then when you attempt to cancel they will make you stay on the phone for a minimum of 45 minutes trying to get a person that doesn’t speak English to understand that you want to cancel. After that you will have to wait for a connection to their “cancellation department” where that person speaks better English but is so rude to you that you wish you’d never heard of American Home Shield.

So working with AHS is close to American Horror Story. When I called to define my coverage and the representative had told me the part was covered because it wasn’t listed on the parts not covered. However the part was not covered and was not listed on the parts covered or the parts not covered. I asked the representative, "Where is that part in the hidden parts?" She replied it’s an option you can add on. I’m so confused. It must be on the hidden parts list. Save your own money and the service calls are less. The parts of repairs over the years with your savings will cover the costs and then some.

We found water under the kitchen sink and the plumber could’ve listened to me a little bit more. The job wasn’t completed, so I had to call them back to complete it. It was still leaking under the sink and he didn’t resolve the issue. He fixed the faucet and he made it so tight that we couldn’t move it. He said it would get loose in a few days. I checked in at the sink and I asked him if he needed to caulk around the faucet because that was what was making it leak under as well. He said no and it didn’t need to be done. But there’s still water under the sink so I thought that what was leaking was probably behind the faucet, because I had that happen to me in another condo before.
I called AHS back and they said they could send him out but I was so frustrated by this time because he didn’t listen, that I hired another plumber and had a new faucet put in. AHS said the plumber could replace the faucet, but it’s a hundred-year-old faucet and I knew that they would replace it with a cheapie $19.99 one at Home Depot and it would be days before they would come back.
I had another issue with electrical and a contractor came in and they didn’t wanna do the job. They came in at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, so you know they have a long drive to go. One came in to look at electrical and said that it was a failure. When I called in, I never said it was a failure. I said the electrical wiring had to be switched around. I asked them if that was covered and they said yes. They sent him out and he said it was not a failure. He signed it off, said he couldn’t do it and left. I’m still fighting that one because I need the recording, I need them to get back to me on the recording on what was exactly said. They sent me a letter which says in their policy, it was not covered. So, I’m not very happy with them right now. I’m almost afraid of calling for anything.
Good Morning Erlinda,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

And a lot of times, my problem isn't any of the ones that are listed. Also, if I have a second issue, I can't put a second one in. There's no way to do that that I can see. That's why I usually use the phone. I try online first. Then, over the phone, it's generally a long wait time to speak to a rep. But this time, it was fairly quick. The drain line backed up so I called and it was very good with the rep I talked to. Mr. Plumber was sent out and they snaked down the drain line.

My air conditioning was not working and I submitted a claim to AHS. Their contractor, Smith & Company HVAC came to do service and the tech who arrived was excellent. However, he didn't repair my AC. It's old and it needs to be replaced. AHS won't do that though. They'll replace it until I have a Frankenstein of a system. Finally, they figured out that it has to get replaced. There are multiple parts wrong and I have to spend $1,000 to put Freon in just to see if it works.
I don't like AHS's concept of picking one thing apart and then going from there. I don't like them not taking the word of their contractor that my unit needs to be replaced. I've had other contractors out who already know there are multiple things wrong with my AC and AHS won't budge. Also, whenever a tech comes out I gotta pay. I had BGE Home before and when they came out, I didn't have to pay. Still, I like AHS' tech and the price I was able to get for replacing my system was fairly decent.

More recently, I submitted a claim for my HTG and AHS sent Advanced Cooling & Heating. The outlet on the wall was not giving enough charge to the outlet that was inserted into our dryer. And then when the contractor inserted the outlet it was big and loose, and that was supposed to be a tight fit. He took it out, replaced the wall unit and the cord, because the cord was kinda burnt, short. Anything that is light is now drying. But anything that was cotton like towel and a couple of blouses, and there was only two pieces, I had to throw them back in a dryer. Even though he replaced both of those things I'm assuming that eventually the dryer is gonna be need to be replaced. But right now I can still do my laundry.
There are certain things that's irritating with AHS, but just like any insurance they have to follow protocol. Just for example they replaced my faucet, but the faucet that they gave me I would have never chosen because aesthetically I did not like it, and to me it's like okay. I have no qualm. I can't complain. In my mind I'm like at least give me a choice to choose what I really like. If I have to pay a difference I don't mind. I really was not pleased with my faucet. I talked to my husband and said, "Is it worth it me continue paying these people? When they want to replace something they've given us what they want, not what we would like." But I can't blame American Home Shield. Because I don't know what budget AHS has given the gentleman or someone repairing it, or I don't if he's just buying the cheapest and then pocketing the rest. But overall, I like AHS.

This summer, we had two other contractors where I thought the time was not reasonable. I wanted to switch to another contractor that maybe they had. For our air conditioning situation in July, we waited over a week and a half. There was also an incident with our hot water heater as well. It was an extremely long wait. American Home Shield is a big organization and I live in a big city, but sometimes, it seems like they give it to small people who cannot take the work. They can't do it in a reasonable amount of time, which makes it tough. Nevertheless, some contractors were great.
The claim submission for our toilet issues went smoothly. The contractor from Integrity Plumbing was polite and neat in appearance. He explained everything and kept us up to date. I got a text message when he was coming, and then a call when he was en route. He was easy to work with, and it went fine.
