The garage doors have a sensor, the little lighting system at the bottom to keep you from closing the door on somebody. The sensor was messed up and I tried the usual thing like wiggling the wires. It was a simple fix, but I decided I did not want to mess with it because I might make it worse. I contacted American Home Shield through their website. Submitting the claim online was fairly easy and simple, but I was surprised at how little they asked.
Flash Garage Door contacted me to set up an appointment and they came out and fixed the problem. The tech adjusted a few things to make it work better. It was about a five-minute fix, and he felt bad he noticed some other things and he adjusted those. So, he did a great job. He was on time, friendly, sharp and very helpful. Overall, I got a warranty mainly because of the simplicity of just calling them and then they take care of it. American Home Shield has been sort of hit and miss. Some things have been very difficult to deal with, while some things have been straightforward. Then, some have been fixed but it was difficult.

We’ve had a lot of issues with our house so having a home warranty is good so far. I have a claim in with American Home Shield for a plumber ‘cause we aren’t getting hot water out of our kitchen sink and we have an instant water heater that isn’t working. Also, we have a wine refrigerator that isn’t working, a trash compactor that isn’t working, a gas grill that isn’t working and a fireplace that we can’t turn on, and none of those are covered. So, I’m kinda iffy on this whole thing. If more stuff were covered, I’d be more happy. We’re new to the area and I don’t even know who to call for any of those stuff. However, our first claim was getting a new key lock and C&D Lock and Security was sent out. The tech was very nice and everything went really well. We're really happy with our new locks.
Hi Mrs. Moreau,
I am pleased to hear about your experience with American Home Shield and the locks that were replaced. I hope you continue to enjoy the coverage we provide!

We've had nothing but great success with American Home Shield. We've had three claims, so far, and their response time is fantastic. There were difficulties with the service techs, but that's nothing to do with American Home Shield. It was more with the parts than anything else. We recently did a claim because the kitchen sink was plugged up. A guy from Summit Plumbing came in and we shot the breeze for a little bit as he was getting everything ready. He got underneath the sink, looked at it, went on and got the snake. We were talking jovially and just having a good old time, and he ran the snake down, got it unplugged and then we were done. It was the proper tool and proper job, and everything worked.
Good Morning Alan,

I've been with American Home Shield for over 40 years now and I've had no problems with anybody that they've sent out. I filed a claim when the igniter was bad and Advanced Heating & AC came out. That went pretty good. They came in and changed out the igniter.

The pool heater wasn’t working, and I had to go online to submit a claim but the website really sucked. It said it didn’t have my information, and it was hard to do the claim online. So I then had to call somebody, and there were silly prompts that I had to go through but when I finally got to someone, it was okay. But they could make it easier to request a service, like having a mobile app. It’s hard to follow all of the policies. You try to get stuff fixed and they have to go through all of the policies. It’s a lot of paperwork. But the contractor who came out was fine. He had to come a second time because it wasn’t fixed correctly the first time.

I’ve had home warranties before and had problems with them but my first experience with American Home Shield was excellent. They have a quick turnaround, so that was good. Plumbington was there within two days since I called the claim in and they were timely, polite and professional. They quickly analyzed the problem and they were going to have a replacement of the garbage disposal within the same day. They picked it up, came back late that same evening and installed it, so I’m extremely pleased with them.

When Integrity Appliance came out, they determined what the problem was and that they needed to order parts. The thing they came out to look at was over 20 years old and they're trying to find if they can get the parts. I was told that they would find out whether the parts were available and then they would contact AHS to tell them how much the parts were if they could be found. Then AHS would be contacting me.
When I had a problem with my air conditioner, the guy came out and took care of it. It was a $4,000 job and I only had to pay the $75. However, they had to put Freon in the air conditioner and AHS allows $10 a pound and wouldn't pay the going rates so I had to pay an additional $500. It was either pay it, or the air conditioner wouldn't be fixed. AHS is very responsive though. I can either call them or they have a website where I can file a claim. Their website is easy to use. Also, for the most part, the vendors that they use have been professional and efficient at what they do.
Good Morning Roy,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

We've had American Home Shield for two years now. It came with the house when we bought it so we kept it. We had a claim the first year and we had heard of other people having issues with the houses in our neighborhood. I would rather have the insurance and fall back on that rather than getting totally surprised. So far, my experience with AHS has been as I would expect. But I wish the turnaround time isn't quite as long. They are quick to assign a contractor but I always call the contractor instead of waiting for them to call me to make sure that I get on their calendar. There is also the process of having to go back and confirm with American Home Shield. I understand that they have to get approval but there was an instance when it was 29 degrees when our heat went out the first time.
I filed the claim on a Friday so it was already an unfortunate timing because then you have the weekend. American Home Shield closes early and all the heating people closed at 3:30, so I wasn’t able to get anybody until the following week. The tech guy from America Air Conditioning & Heating came out on Tuesday, so that took four days including the weekend. They had to come out three times. The first time they came out, it was to see what was wrong with my heating unit then they determined that the igniter switch was bad. They got a replacement igniter switch. They came out and put it in on another day.
A week later, it wasn’t working again, which was frustrating. They sent someone out and he determined that it was the faulty igniter switch that they put in. The tech replaced it with another one that he had in his vehicle. Also, the process of getting the part was a fail on the contractor’s part because the people in the office just overlooked it and messed up. I had to follow up with them a couple of times about the part. Other than that, the contractor was fine although there was one guy who was late. The other two guys, on the other hand, were on time. The quality of work was fine, assuming that it was a bad igniter switch and nothing that they did. After the repair, it’s been kinda warm so the heat hasn’t kicked on very much. But everything seems to be working.

Identified what the issue was and didn't leave anything behind, and everything's been working great ever since.

I'm worried about things breaking in my house so I got AHS. The website has been super easy to use. They email me a status update. I go in and select what service I need and then give my credit card number for the co-pay. And then, it confirms all that and then after the problem has been assigned to someone, it would say that, "Your repair has been assigned" and it tells me what company. The team there is responsive. And I've always been sent decent contractors. No one creepy. They've been really good about coming and scheduling. They come for the initial visit and see the problem and then they schedule the service. And no one's been odd about working with us because it's through American Home Shield.
Recently we had a pipe that was leaking in our basement, so whenever we used one of our bathrooms a bunch of water would go into our basement. The contractor came out and looked at it and showed me right where the big crack was that we hadn't even seen. And then he took a look and measured some things to see what kind of pipes he would need, and put in the claim to AHS. He scheduled me for a follow-up and then he came back and repaired the sectional pipe. That leak was totally fixed. AHS is a great company. We've had offers to step-rate, and it's service we pay for and it's fair we pay each month and then they do what they're supposed to do. It's worth the money. I recommended it to three friends just this weekend.

I made the claim for the AC and within a good five minutes I received a message saying that someone would contact me in 24 to 48 hours. I received the call 10 minutes later, and within two or three hours, the representative was out, the problem was fixed, and I haven’t had anymore issues. The tech also educated me on maintaining the unit. He did an amazing job. He said the issue was the motor, and that it was a very costly job. It was my first time using Home Shield, and not having to pay for part and not having to be stressed on finding a company to come out, worked out very well for me.

The contractor that AHS sent was great. He was very personable and very knowledgeable of what he was dealing with with my refrigerator, and he was just a nice person. However, I was without a refrigerator for over two weeks. That's the process I didn't like. After it was deemed to be replaced, it took him a while to figure out how much they were gonna replace it for. Then they let me know what that was. I went and bought one myself, then I had to be reimbursed, and then I had to wait another 10 to 12 days for that.
Last year, I had an issue with my air conditioning, and it really didn't behoove me to have American Home Shield because all they say was for $300 or something that had to be done inside, and then a major work was outside, which was $4,000. So, the advertising that said they'll take care of your furnace and your air conditioning is false. They didn't take care of my air conditioning at all.
I could've paid for what they did without them, and that still had to come out of my pocket with $4,000. That didn't help me. I started at $52 and now it's up to $75 a month, and I don't use it every month. I pay for two air conditioning units but I didn't get any relief in that matter. So, I really contemplated getting rid of the plan. But my wife said we'd just hold on to it a little while longer. I'm like that's $75 a month I could use somewhere else. It wasn't beneficial in my opinion.
Sanchez,
I apologize that your experience with us was not satisfactory. Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

I called AHS in September about my washer and dryer. Dryer was fixed timely and works. However they did not fix the washer, needed 2 more parts (contractor stated they would be hard to find. December 3rd and still not fixed!!! AHS says contractor has parts since October 19th but he will not return their calls or mine. AHS just keeps apologizing and calling the contractor again. Then they state, "We need to send to parts dept and contractor relations." 3 weeks later STILL not having any communication except when I call everyday. 2 supervisors are involved but they dont call back either. I have reported the contractor to BBB and will give AHS another few weeks to fix my washer or give me my monies back. So far $100 deductible plus 4 months of payments. I could have bought a new washer by now and dont get me started on trips and cost time spent at laundromat. SOMEONE PLEASE FIX MY WASHER AND RESOLVE THIS!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

Due to the Consumer Affairs posting, AHS had a very professional customer service agent reach out to me and rectify the situation. I was very satisfied with the resolution and I now intend to keep my AHS account active as it has been very helpful for many years. I am keeping the review at 3 stars because I am still dissatisfied that the assistance from Consumer Affairs was required to drive resolution.

Every time I request warranty service, there is a fight over whether their item is covered. This includes AHS routinely accusing me (the homeowner) of causing the damage. Their customer service is never helpful to the customer. It is always very legal in nature and appears designed to prove that they aren't responsible versus designed to help the homeowner.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service as you have had several issue AHS and I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you in an effort to assist with unresolved claims.

I am submitting this review due to my displeasure for the service I have repeatedly received from this company. If you need anything big (A/C, Washer or Dryer) they take extremely long to get your appliance Fixed. Back in 2013 my A/C went out in Aug. I live in Texas. It was extremely hot and it took them 3 weeks to repair my A/C. I put in a service request on 10/23/19 for my washer to get repaired. It is now 12/3 and they are finally trying to fix it because it takes AHS FOREVER to send parts. Their communications is ridiculous. The only way you find anything out is if you continually call them and keep getting told different things by different "customer service reps". The parts department is a joke! They don't know what expedite means and refuse to try and help you get your parts in a timely manner.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

It's only a two-year-old unit and the parts failed. Even though I was irked by it, the tech explained it to me nicely so he deserves credit for that. My claim for my washer with AHS went fine. It just wasn’t done right the first time. When it was done and I went to do laundry, the problem was worse than what it was before where my whole laundry room floor was flooded. I had to use about four very large towels to soak the water up. And so, I called American Home Shield, and they came back and had it done. The same person that repaired it came back again and had it done and fixed it and said that it was something that he should have done that he didn’t do. Then when he left, he didn’t set the knobs right for the settings. I had to call AHS back, and I told them to send me somebody else. And this guy came. He was very pleasant, very nice, knowledgeable, and he gave great customer service.
I also have a claim for my microwave. I sent the thing in for the microwave over the weekend, and they sent back to say that they had processed it and that somebody was gonna be getting in touch with me after. But I haven’t heard from anybody. Sometimes, my experience with AHS is just so frustrating. When I call, they’re not as pleasant on the phone sometimes. They act as though they’re doing me a favor for stuff, which I just don’t think that’s right. But other than that, my experience is all right.

Submitting the claim part was pretty easy. You just the call number and so on. Home Shield was good with the work order. They gave me the work order right away. We set the dates for the contractor to come out. However, I had to work on the original date that they were gonna send the contractor out. I just changed it to the next day and they were out promptly on the time that they were scheduled.
It was the garbage disposal that was out of commission. The contractor luckily had one on the truck and he had it installed, and within 5 to 10 minutes he was done. I was really impressed with their work. I was just surprised as to how much the initial cost was, which was $125. I had an issue one or two years ago. But did the price go up somehow? For some reason, I was thinking it was $75 that I had them out here at the time. But other than that, the coverage worked out according to the contract, the service was great and their response was perfect.

American Home Shield has been easy to work with and they have always taken care of what I needed to have done. I prefer submitting claims over the phone with an agent, and I have had only positive response with them. They do a very good job and it seems they are very knowledgeable of what they need to have done and how it needs to be done. I have had appliances and electrical problems that they have helped solve in the past.
With my plumbing issue, they are trying to take care of this as soon as possible. When the tech came back, he was having a problem with one of the toilets and he was trying to get a part. He couldn't find the part for us, and then he figured out that it cannot be repaired and it had to be replaced. So we're in the process now of ordering it in a certain color. My only thing with AHS is that it seemed like I could not get anyone at a certain timeframe. I had a claim for the ice maker and there was also water leaking. The contractor, Wright Refrigeration, had to order a part and they fixed my problem perfectly. Then, there was another problem with the ice maker and they came back and fixed that too. I had a claim for the oven too. It would only go to 250 and it didn't necessarily get to 350. If I had it on for maybe a few hours, maybe it would go to 320. A contractor came out and he said that it was the regulator, which regulates the temperature. He said he needed a part, but he never came back. It has been a month.
I called American Home Shield three times and they said that someone will get back with me but no one has gotten back with me. That was a disappointment for Thanksgiving. The oven gets hot but I have to keep it on for a few hours and it doesn't get to the temperature that I request, so I'm still having that issue. My first claim was for my AC and it would have been nice if American Home Shield paid for it 'cause it cost me $7,000. The AC wasn't working so they gave me an option to have it repaired, but they don't cover the refrigerants because it was too expensive to get the refrigerant on a unit that's 15 years old. I asked and I argued with them, and then I also told them, "Well, what's the point of having the service if y'all don't cover anything." The AC company that came out, United Air Conditioning, advised that I just get a new unit so that's what I did. When our pool pump isn't circulating, the heater has a light that says it needs service, but when the pool pump is circulating, it doesn't need service. The other thing we had done with American Home Shield was a rekey of our locks after we moved in and the technician who did it was good.

We had a problem where half of our house didn't have electricity and the circuit breaker box was making a popping, sizzling sound. The only way to stop that is by physically turning off the electricity. When we opened up the box, one of the switches was about to come off. So, the hazard would've been in a short circuit which would've likely caused some damage, if not, a fire. We submitted a claim through the American Home Shield website, which was to R and R Electric, but it ended up being horrible service and we got no phone call back. It was also annoying because one of the ladies at American Home Shield shut the phone call on me. But once I got a better representative, things went really well. They set up a claim and said they have four hours to find me an alternate contractor. We then got CARE Facility and they got the job done.

We had a gas furnace that went out and it was making a lot of clanging noise. Submitting the claim was a very good experience and someone from Mainline Plumbing came out the next day. The contractor performed very good work and was very nice. He had to come back out 2 days later with the part and install it. It was a big wheel, like a drum beside the heater, that was repaired. So, the experience went very well.

I've been satisfied with both times that I've had to use my policy. I submit claims online, especially since the problem unbearably happens either late at night or early in the morning or maybe I'm in a rush. The online process is very easy and whoever is the claim assigned to always calls me to set up the appointment, which is fine. So, I had a claim with my dishwasher that was not coming on. Reliable Appliance Repair has been out twice and Maurice was very professional and personable that I have no complaints whatsoever. He explained what was going on and rectified the situation in a timely manner.
Great! That's exactly what we like to hear. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing week.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for 30 years. We stopped for a while during Katrina, and then we signed back when we came back home. I go online to submit a claim, but lately, I've been having to speak with someone because there has been problems that I couldn’t solve by going online. It was a little more extensive that I have to explain stuff. And it normally takes a couple of days to send someone out. There were two different techs from Express Appliance that came out to fix our refrigerator. Both of them were very professional and very helpful. But the last guy who was a senior tech was able to pinpoint the problem after many tries. He got on the phone with GE, did a troubleshooting and he was able to find out what exactly was going on. The refrigerator is working perfectly now.
There’s one ongoing issue that I’ve been having. I was charged a service charge which I disagree with because the refrigerator problem was an ongoing problem. They give 30 days from the time when the old problem exist and then you have to call back. But the girl waived the fee because she said I've been a long-time customer and that this one was an ongoing problem. But even though she waived the fee, I kept getting emails up until yesterday. And then, Express Appliance sent me a bill because the $75 fee kept reoccurring. Someone dropped the ball because several times when I talked to people, the form was supposed to be sent in to correct the misconception that I owe $75. And that was the only problem I’ve ever had with AHS and I just want that cleared up. Normally, they all take care of everything.
AHS said again that they were gonna solve it and I didn’t need to worry about it. They said that the fee had been waived and that the appropriate forms had been sent in. They would deal with Express Appliances themselves and let them know that that bill wasn’t supposed to be sent to me, and that AHS would take care of it. That was the last word I got. And I have called five times about the same issue. When I call AHS, they normally get done what needs to be done. It's just frustrating because I've been having to go back and forth about the same issue with the refrigerator, and also the credits for the $75. But other than that, I have a good relationship with American Home Shield.

I had four outlet plugs in the kitchen area that were inoperative. One day I realized they weren't working, and it has been a couple of months ago that I decided to do something about it because it was an inconvenience. Even though I have my warranty, I didn’t know if they were covered. So, when I called and talked to a human, I found out that that was covered. I did this on a Wednesday and they got ahold of me that Friday. Then, I went on and got set up for the appointment for that Monday. MaeDae Electric was outstanding, and it worked out great. The guy knew exactly what it was. He saw one of those switches with the auto on/off switch or circuit breaker and it was that one that he took apart, fixed, rewired, and it fixed the other five. So, he was quite knowledgeable of what he was doing. I re-plugged everything as they normally was.
The way I found that out was that I have a wine cooler several months ago, and I was wondering why it was defrosting, which led me to one of the plugs. And then, the phone wasn't charging, which led me to another plug. So, I just re-plugged those up to ones that was working. So, that one plug took out those other three and the other ones in the kitchen worked, and he explained it. He worked on one of them and it fixed all four of them. I've been with American Home Shield for years, and I have recommended them to several of my neighbors at times. I’ve had the standard things like my disposal had gone out five times and I went right online and they came out and it was a done deal. So, AHS has been pretty straightforward for me.

I was happy with the way everything went. I've been an American Home Shield customer for a long time and I usually go online and set my claim up. If I have any problem, I call them. Sometimes, you're in a situation where you need to get something fixed without waiting a week. When you do a service call, the company that AHS set you up with would tell you that they couldn't to you until next week or five days. Then I usually call back and get another company. AHS sent out an email about having the furnace inspected. So, we asked to have our furnace inspected. AHS wanted us to use a contractor out of Iowa City. In the email that they had originally sent about getting the furnace inspected, it was for $100. The one from Iowa City wanted 125. So, we said why have somebody come 45 to 50 miles when we’ve got somebody 5 miles away. We then asked if we could have Affordable Heating, which we've used before in a previous home and we were pleased with, and AHS said no problem. When the technician came out here, he said replacing the parts was going to be hard to do because the furnace was older. When he went and dug in deeper, he said that we were leaking emissions, a slow leak. So, we got it replaced.

We also put in a claim when our dishwasher quit working. We got Suffolk Appliance and they did a fantastic job. The tech fixed it in five seconds and he replaced the seal on the dishwasher too. He was professional and quick. At first, he showed me a couple of things which was helpful because if it ever happens again, I can reset it. I've done two calls and one online claim. The online thing is a little generic, but as long as it works, I'll keep using that because that gets me in the door faster. For the rekey claim, Mount's Lock & Key came out really fast to rekey the house we just bought. However, two of the other claims did not work so well. The first time that I had an electrical claim, there was no callback from AHS and then they ended up saying that the people they tried to get me hooked up with were really busy. They gave me a second outfit and those were fast and worked fine. Then, this last one was also an electrical claim and AHS gave me the same outfit that they tried to give me on the first electric, and they didn't call back. But when I called, American Home Shield got that first outfit to give me a call. They came out and did an okay job when they were here.
It's just a matter of getting linked up to people who will call back and then can get out here quickly. They're not very responsive, and I don't know if that's because they're just so busy, that they're so booked and they just can't respond. I also never get a message saying they can't get back to me, or there's no passing on. AHS hooks you up with them and then eventually if you push hard enough, they either call back or they switch people for you.

But they're cooling now and getting heat. He was very thorough and he explained everything to us.

So hopefully, this next visit tomorrow, they'll get it all squared away. But the contractor who came the first time was pretty professional. My dad was here watching the house and had a little trouble getting the dogs in himself, but the contractor was kind enough to wait out front for about 10 extra minutes till we get that squared away.
I've had a couple of things on our air conditioner where AHS send somebody out. And then, a few years back, they came out a few times on our old refrigerator. It seems like every time I've had, not American Home Shield, but whoever came out for them, it took at least two or three visits before the issue got fixed. The air conditioner guy said it was all good and I paid $600 for Freon charge. Then it ran out of Freon again. He never really fixed the leak. The next company came out and said that was not it and he fixed it within five minutes. But I still had to pay another $500 for the Freon. Some of the techs that have come out have all been nice, but I have yet to get anything fixed the first go-around. And that was not Home Shield's fault necessarily. It was just luck of the draw with the technicians coming out.

The third company came and they said that they would be back but they never came back and never did a follow up. I have had a very bad experience with this.

I called and I explicitly told the customer service agent that I had no heat, and that I wanted to put in a repair call to fix my heating system. So, she sent somebody out. And I had to pay $75 each time they sent a technician from whatever specialty it is.
The man came out and he started taking the screws and he said, “Okay. Well, we’re gonna do this.” I said, “No. I’m not having it serviced. I put in a call for repair because I have no heat.” And he said, “No, no, no. I got it as a service call. And you have to call them again and send somebody out to repair, to actually fix it.” So, the man just left. He was sent out to service my unit and not fix it. I had to call American Home Shield again, speak to a customer service agent, and put in a request again to repair and pay another $75. They sent the man out and he found out that my gas company, the one that provides gas, never took the lock off my gas meter outside. So, the technician AHS sent out didn't do anything. He just said, “You got a lock. You gotta call your gas company.”
Then I was getting water under the cabinet under my sink. I called American Home Shield and said, “I have water under my sink. I don’t know why.” So, they sent Grade A Plumbing out, and they told me I needed a new faucet. The seller redid my kitchen. It’s a brand-new faucet. I don’t know whether he was being truthful or not or he could’ve used a washer to stop the leak so that it’s leaking from the faucet. So, I just paid $140 for a new faucet not knowing if in fact it needed a new faucet. AHS said it wasn’t covered, but I haven't fully looked at my contract.
Another thing with Grade A Plumbing was the tech said I have a lifetime warranty on the faucet. He wrote down a model number which is incorrect. I went in the website to register it. It’s incorrect. So, I’m not happy because I didn't have time to vet this company. American Home Shield just sent them out. I don’t like them because you don’t have a choice of A, B, or C. They just send somebody out. And luckily, a sink is not an emergency. But the plumber mixed the hot water lines, so I look like I’m trying to get cold water, it comes hot, and vice versa. So, I’m not happy all-around.
I also have billing problems with American Home Shield. The debit card that I have listed in my account section of my profile is true and correct. For my old address, I’ve still not fully changed my address for my personal license. So, it’s like bill to/ship to is different when you order online sometimes, or your billing address may be different than your shipping address. Luckily, I do not pay for American Home Shield. I’ve tried. I’ve done it online. I’ve corrected and I’ve said, “Use this address, blah blah blah.” They keep sending me bills. I was gonna call and I was gonna talk to somebody again, but they don’t listen. I don’t know what kind of people they have working for them. Next year, I’m not gonna renew.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

It's easy to submit claims to AHS online. However, they do not have good appliance repair people in our area. They should vet those contractors better as we had one who was incompetent and it took forever for Home Shield to send out a second contractor to get a second opinion. It takes me forever to convince American Home Shield that the issue not fixed and they should send somebody else out. Also, I still have a pending order on my oven which has been open for months and they can't seem to find somebody who can fix it.
For another claim for a plumbing issue, AHS sent Drain Go which was the best service provider AHS has ever sent to my house. They were quick to schedule an appointment. They arrived on time and while they had to get parts, they fixed my issue by the next week. Everything went like it should have gone, which was not the experience I’ve had with the other contractors. With AHS, I can't pick my service provider and I'm at their mercy. Some of AHS' contractors are not worth anything.

My heat wouldn't turn on it was gonna go down to 29 degrees. Submitting claims to AHS has been easy to do online. They sent Myers Comfort Specialist of Birmingham to do service. So far, they have ordered $1,000 in parts for my unit but then AHS won't replace it. I've heard other people say that AHS is not gonna replace their equipment. They just keep putting parts in until their client finally has to buy one themselves. AHS has replaced a washing machine for me before but for some reason, they wouldn't replace my heating unit which I've had so much trouble with. Even so, Myers Comfort got my heat working again and I've been more satisfied with AHS lately.

I know that sometimes, they can be late and I asked that they call before they come because it’s a rent house and we weren’t there all the time. They were a little late at that time and my husband happened to see them come around the corner as he was leaving the house. The problems that came up were nothing to do with the warranty because the previous owners had put in some weird locks. We had to pay a lot more than $75, but it’s not American Home Shield's fault that they did that. We were disappointed in the fact that the $75 didn’t really give us anything that we paid for. I had to buy a bunch of dead bolts and have a bunch of stuff done, much more than was covered by the warranty. It was a big hassle. But the man from Dan's Pro-Lock was very professional and helpful.

I submit claims over the phone and so far, so good. Recently the contractor came the next day or the day after that. However, it's taking a long time. There is one sink they had to renew the water heater to get to the wall, and when they refinished it, the water heater had a leak and nobody could fix that. They just turned off that water to that piece of pipe. Also, they still have to do the wall that they did not replace the sheetrock. I've been told the they're going to try to finish the work beginning of January. But other than that, Home Shield's service was great.

They had to order it so they had to come back in again. There were a few times that I had to make multiple appointments. I only had to speak to their reps over the phone a few times. The other time, I just put everything online, and that seems to be working out.

Then they called me on Tuesday and said they were gonna come out then. But when I called them back, they said they couldn't and they were going back to the original time frame. They got the contracts mixed up but everything went good in the end. The warranty still works out and $65 a month beats paying $700 for a new dishwasher.

The dishwasher quit washing the dishes and it leaked all over the floor. I just moved in two months before that and had a home inspection, and it was fine. It just gave out. American Home Shield was very prompt when I submitted a claim over the phone. I was impressed. The tech from Arnold’s Appliance Repair who came out was very professional and very nice. He looked over the piece and told us he’d be back in contact with us. Once he submitted that it needed to be replaced, he also emailed us and let us know about that. Instead of trying to repair all the little pieces, by the time he added up all the cost, it was gonna be cheaper to get a whole new dishwasher. All the stuff came in online and I had a few options from AHS on what we could pick. I just picked a gift card and finally picked the one that we liked. Our built-in microwave was not the perfect size for the insert into the wall. There were about an inch and a half gap on the left and right sides and about an inch on the top and bottom. When we first ordered it, the lady that I talked to had included the frame that would go with it. It came up a week later and we got it. The guy from Service Center took it out of the box, set it on the counter and then he was gone. But my husband fixed everything. So everything is fine. It was on a Friday late afternoon and I thought the guy just wanted to get it over with and get out of here. Then his supervisor called and was asking about it. The supervisor mentioned that the guy might have a language problem and he just wanted to get out of here because he couldn't understand anything.
American Home Shield is a lifesaver and everything’s gone so well. They are excellent and I appreciate what they do. They also have some excellent technicians. The person that fixed our refrigerator and dryer, James, was really good. Also, the man who came out for oven and the stovetop range worked hard to fix it. This was older stuff and he didn’t have a book to go on, and that man sat there and worked with it until he got the oven temperature perfect. Then the man that fixed the air conditioning and heating was very courteous. We’re old and a lot of stuff they say that we may not understand, but they take the time to explain it and tell us what’s going on.

He found out that it was the door seals, fixed the dishwasher and cleaned it up. He ordered the part, and I didn’t hear anything out of the guy for a week. The heat wasn't working, and some switch inside the handler that's in the garage kept popping every time we turn the heat on. The guy from Burleson came out and when he would leave and it would turn on, it would pop. He told us that if it keeps popping, just open up the box and unpop it. He never made sure it was working. He would get it to go on, but then as soon as we shut it off, then it wouldn't go on. And then it didn't quit popping. It wouldn't go on at all, and we had no heat! Those people are horrible. They were supposed to send Burleson back, but I told American Home Shield that they suck. I don't want those people back to my house. They've been here three times and beside the fact that they called me and told me that all their guys had the flu, and that they couldn't come anyway. So American Home Shield sent out Air Conditioning & Heating Wizards.
The first time the guy came out was the day before Thanksgiving Day, and he thought he had it fixed. But when he left that day, we turned it on, and I called him and said that the fan won't shut off. It just goes on and on. It blows heat and then cool air, heat and then cool air. So it never got to temperature. I texted him on a Friday, day after Thanksgiving, and he came back on Monday. He brought some parts, and he replaced some part. He worked and worked and worked on it, and it's been working now. Wizard was excellent. They were very nice, very thorough, and very polite. They showed up, called, and texted. The tech was prompt and did the job. He was very caring that the job was fixed.
We went 18 days with no heat or air working because the Burleson folks sent a half-assed guy. And the guy himself told me that he was not that experienced. And then he messed with something he wasn't supposed to even mess with. It was on the water heater, and he bust the pipes and water went all over the place. He had to fix that, and then I had to call them back because the parts that he fixed were leaking which wasn't even something he was supposed to be touching. He had to come back on that Saturday and redo that. The whole experience sucked, but it didn't have anything to do with American Home Shield. I love American Home Shield. They're good.

We had a kitchen drain backup. The original plumber came out and said that it was due to a grease buildup. Home Shield said hydro-jetting was not covered under our particular plan. We completely disputed that. That was done based on the very first plumber who couldn't unclog the drain. Then, a second plumber came out and was also unsuccessful. I finally just called and paid for it out of my own pocket. After three weeks and countless hours of calls and individuals from American Home Shield telling me that they were going to call me back, which they never did, I was very disappointed. It was a complete exercise in ineptness. It was a shell game just to see how long I think they could just postpone or neglect the situation and it was absolutely frustrating.

The rep that AHS sent out was wonderful and very professional. He was very knowledgeable of what he was doing and explained everything to me. He said he found a blockage about 60 feet but he ran the hose out to 100 feet. He went beyond and was really prompt, too. I had a 2:00 to 6:00 appointment and when he got here, it was dark. And he stayed here until he opened my drain line up. He understood my situation and told me what to do.
He also told me that if I have my little girlfriends that come over, I should make sure that they don't drop objects in the toilet, and that if the grandkids come, I should make sure that objects don’t go in the toilet because the toilet paper will collect around the objects and that could clog my drain. He said even though I don't use my basement that much, ever so often, I should go down there and flush the toilet just to keep the line on. Even though it was raw sewage, he opened my line up and he really made me feel good.
Aside from that, when I called AHS about that claim, the reps I talked to were doing the best that they could do. But because it was a claim for raw sewage in my basement, I called them the 3rd, which was a Monday, and nobody got out here until that Wednesday. So I felt like I was a little neglected and abandoned on that part. But nobody could get out here sooner because of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, so I understood all of that. In the meantime, I was not able to use my toilet or running water. Plus, my whole house smelled like a toilet. I kept my grandbabies away and I couldn't put my dog down in the basement. It was very inconvenient, very unhelpful, and very unbeneficial to the human body.
Also, sometimes, if you don't let AHS know the urgency of your situation, depending on who you talk to, they just think it's another call. For my plumbing claim, American Home Shield didn't put it on as an emergency and that's my only beef with them. When you call somebody and tell them you got raw sewage in your basement backed up, you shouldn’t have to say that it is an emergency and I shouldn't have to wait 72 more hours for something that I called in. And if they would've pursued it a lot sooner, I could have had use of my bathtub earlier than Wednesday. Other than that, everything is fixed now. I applaud AHS and I really appreciate them because the deductible is only $100. When I called a plumber, it'd been $75 for them to come out here and another $75 for every hour they do. But it would have been $600. I will also continue to use AHS. They take my money out every month and they have been great.

I was ok with that additional service fee however, after the technician left after replacing the element my perfectly good running furnace no longer worked and it happened to be the coldest night of the season (20 degrees). AHS didn't believe it was necessary to do a recall for the very same night but rather the next day (B.S).
My next service call was for a sewage backup 3 weeks ago, and since then they have sent two different companies and after 3 visits to my home, still no resolution. When Knock Out Pools came out, the tech looked at the pool and he did his test and he said that we needed a new pump. He told me what the problem was and why we needed a new pump, and totally understood what had happened and why we needed one. Within two days, they were back out and had it installed. They were amazing. They always called to let me know they were coming. It's a great company. American Home Shield is always pretty prompt to get somebody to fix anything that I need, which is why we stayed with them. I could get ahold of them at any time, day or night. I could not go to heat the thermostat. It would not go there. I called the claim in to American Home Shield and the rep I dealt with was fine. The first time they came out, the guys from South Florida Crane and Cooling switched thermostats from one unit to the other, and they got it on. It said heat for a second, but then we got an error code. It was red light and error code, and it would not work. So they said they had to order a part, and then they came out and put the part in. Since then, the unit has worked great and it is still working good. That company was good. They were on time and professional.

There was a leak in the upstairs bathroom plumbing that was affecting the kitchen ceiling. I filed a claim online but I did it accidentally on a different property, so I had to call and they had to change it. A contractor from Central Ohio Home Maintenance came out and fixed. The piping was leaking, coming from the faucet to the bathtub, behind the wall, and they had to fix something behind the wall, like a leak in the elbow. The ceiling's not fixed, though, so I'm not sure if that's part of the contract. Still, it was really quick.

I had a claim for the AC unit and the guy from Temperature Techs came out and found what the issue was. He was on time, and in-and-out. He did a great job. I also had a claim on our microwave, and that was extremely painful. The microwave didn’t work and the company said they would order the part. And then they said they couldn't get the part, so they need to replace it. They ordered the microwave and it was delivered to the house, but they didn’t order all the pieces that were needed with it. Or they were ordered but the people didn’t bring it out, so they couldn’t install it. So I had to call American Home Shield to find out what the deal was, and they argued with me that the parts should have been delivered. But all I had was a box here. I don’t have any other parts to mount this thing. So I had to go and buy the parts to mount it, and then rescheduled, and I took a third day off of work to have somebody come and install it.
If American Home Shield was gonna replace whatever it was, then all the parts should be delivered. And the guy shouldn’t argue with me. I had to pay that out-of-pocket for that, which should have been included, because it should have been for replacement. I put that in my reply back, but I never heard anything back from them.

AHS wouldn't cover the electricals of my Sleep Number bed and my fireplace insert. I need electricity on the bed because I'm handicapped and it lifts me up. For the fireplace, I use that in case my electricity goes out. I didn't understand why they wouldn't do that because it's not wood. It's a propane-fueled fireplace. I asked AHS for a copy of what they cover but then I have never gotten it. My mailing address is different from my home address. I keep telling them not to send it to my home address 'cause I don't have a mailbox. I don't know if AHS is sending it.
Still, the plumber AHS sent was very friendly. He was a good communicator and he knew how to make me feel comfortable. I am uneasy with men in my home 'cause I live alone. He put me at ease and I really liked him. He had to replace the heating element in my water heater. Also, he looked at my kitchen sink and there was a plastic thing broken there which was causing my faucets to be loose. Additionally, he cleaned up a drain in my bathtub where my grandkids take baths. They have long hair and they made it clog up. I was very pleased with the work he did.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for four years, and overall, the experience has been okay. They sent Kellys HVAC for my most recent claim and they were excellent. But for a request prior that, the vendor American Home Shield sent did a very bad work. The claim was for plumbing, and my property manager said that, normally, when there’s a blockage in the bathroom, people use a snake to take things out. The guys that came to the property didn’t even use that. It was a small bathroom. They closed the door, and then they said it was done. When we tested it, the water was not draining. My property manager called them again upstairs and said that it was not done, so they came but they were mad. I think, while going, they even made a hole in one of the walls. They were very unpleasant people. So my property manager requested not to send those guys again.
I called American Home Shield two or three times for them to send somebody else. There’s another plumbing company that they send, whose service is great and most of their people are very nice. I asked American Home Shield if they can send that one but they could not change the vendor, or they would have to charge me extra, and I didn’t want to pay them again. I waited for about two to three weeks for them to do anything, but nobody took any action. They said they sent it to their customer relation, but nothing happened with that. So I had to hire somebody else to get the work done, which means I wasted my money for the people they sent. And then I had to spend extra money for getting the work done from an external plumbing company.
I wish American Home Shield pays more attention to these things, because I’m not a complainer. If I’m a customer for the last four or five years, they have to believe me when I tell them about a horrible vendor. I've had bad experience with American Home Shield twice, and this one incident got me to the point of thinking if I should drop this insurance and not buy it. I give the company about $800 or 900 every year and, on top of that, I pay with every service. But if the person who comes in doesn’t finish the work, it’s very disappointing. So, sometimes it’s better to just spend money upfront. I won’t buy American Home Shield for my home or for any other new property.
Hi Sukhwant,
I hate to hear that your experience has been less than satisfactory. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution to have the HVAC repaired.

American Home Shield was a recommendation that somebody gave me. I've been with them for a year and a half. Their customer service is good and anytime I've had to call, the explanation of benefits covered and stuff like that have been fine. But it would be better if when submitting a claim, they would make it easier to give the option of choosing your own vendor first versus assigning you one. This is through the website. I think that can be done but I don't really know what that process is, so maybe there could be more of that explanation or when you're submitting a claim you could be asked a question like, "Do you have a vendor in mind or do you want us to assign one?" It's been fine so far, but there have been times where I'm like, "What if I wanna go with somebody that I've used before or that has been recommended?”
I had a claim with American Home Shield and they assigned RK Plumbing and Heating to me. They were good. This was the second time that they came out to my house for different things. I submitted my claim on Saturday and they called me Monday. Unfortunately, they weren't able to get to me until then but it was fine because it wasn't that urgent of an issue. I'm sure they had more urgent issues to attend to. The guy who came in fixed the plumbing issue right away. I thought he was just gonna assess it and put his recommendations back. But he said it was broken and he would give me a new one right then. He did the installation in less than an hour. It was good.

When I purchased my house, we bought new appliances. I'm not sure if it's just the appliance brand is not a good brand, which was Samsung, but we had issues with basically every one of the appliances. We ended up having to return the microwave, and American Home Shield returned it for me to the store. They also sent somebody out to replace the burner on the stove, but that took three tries before the guy got it done correctly. And then the compressor failed on the refrigerator, which ended up having to be replaced. They sent me money for an equivalent one but I had to put up a little bit more money to pay for a new one.
Three years down the road, the compressor failed on that one. American Home Shield's contractor came out and fixed it, but I was without a freezer for two months with four kids, one being about two months old. So, I was not happy about at all. A year later, we were on the same boat. I contacted American Home Shield and explained the problem, then they sent a service technician out. He took a look at it and said that the compressor failed. They told me that they were gonna have to order one. In the meantime, I called American Home Shield and plead my case with them like, "Look, I don't know if it's just like a faulty thing," because it was a different brand of refrigerator. It's LG this time.
And so, I looked up LG. They apparently have issues with their linear compressor and they have class action lawsuits. It was a whole big thing. So I told American Home Shield that if it was any other circumstance, any other appliance, I would ask them to just repair and we would move on, but that was the second repair of the same thing in two years. And I don't wanna end up in the same situation a year down the road. I shell out a lot of money monthly to them. I have two accounts with them because I have a rental property covered through another contract with them. They said they couldn't do anything, and that if it was an LG thing, maybe I should contact LG, which I did. But even then, I didn't have a date of when the person was gonna come out, nothing from American Home Shield.
I contacted LG and they sent out a compressor, which came about two days later. They also sent out a technician, who fixed the refrigerator without charge. So, I essentially wasted $100 with American Home Shield by just having their contractor come out and diagnose it because they didn't do anything else for that. And I was like, "Well, how much does a compressor cost that you guys would repair it or replace it? I assume it's not like a cheap repair and that you would wanna do two in a year for the same appliance. I still have the receipt for the appliance. I just have everything so I can show you. It's not an old refrigerator, it's a four-year old refrigerator." So, it wasn't a good experience with that.
I told them I'm on the verge of wanting to cancel. I've had them since we bought the house in 2013 and I've just kept it for the peace of mind. But a refrigerator is a necessity. I don't wanna wait around two to three months to have a refrigerator working. That's kinda crazy. And the service is a hit or miss. Some of the reps are really good when you talk to them but sometimes they're a pain. And the hold times are extremely long.
Now, the last one with the washer, they were very quick. I called them on a Monday and their contractor came out on a Wednesday. He figured out the problem really quickly then he showed me what it was. And he knew what he was talking about. He took care of it right away and he went on his way. I'm 100% satisfied with how everything went with that one.

The icemaker was working and it’s getting water, but the water dispenser wasn’t working. And then the damper in the bottom crisper was getting too cold and then not. The technician came out and did some trial and error in looking at it to figure out what the problems were. He ordered the parts, and they came within a few days. Absolute Comfort has been taking care of the air conditioner and I used them for routine maintenance. They're also the contractor that American Home Shield sends out when something breaks and they always respond, properly, professionally, they take care of it. Most recently, there was some electrical issue in the board, which is connected to some sensors. This time, Home Shield didn't assign Absolute Comfort, so I called them up and they gave me a list of people that I could choose from. Absolute Comfort was on there so I asked to have them and they came out.
The issue was complicated by the fact that one of the valves, the gas valves, was defective. The defective valve would’ve been a problem if the tech hadn't noticed it. It was getting a little bit worse. So, they replaced the valve and then, they replaced the board. It took a while to get the board in. He showed me a workaround until they got the board in. The board was intermittent, so what I'd have to do is turn it off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. And then, it would come back up because what was happening was it would reach a certain temperature, go off, and then not come back on. He showed me how to fix that until he could get the part in for us.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a long time and I have three houses with them. I paid $700 and some dollars a year for one, and $500 and some for the other two. And I do not use the service that often. But three things happened over the last three weeks and they have not pleased me on two, which is not good. The one with the plumbing was very good. The man was polite and he knew what he was doing. He said that the trap had moved so he had to readjust it, and then he cleaned up and left He was here for about 15 minutes and he said that if anything happened with the trap within 60 days, he will come back and replace it.
But as to my request for the electricity in the ceiling in my basement, the follow-up has not been good. I’ve called them three times. The first person came out here and looked at it, then he said that he was gonna call American Home Shield because he is not qualified to do what had to be done. He just gave me a paper to sign that said American Home Shield had denied the request, so American Home Shield will be contacting me about that.
My concern is that, the guy said that the electricity was all right. He went by the wall to take pictures and not the ceiling, because in the ceiling, he wanted a bulb to be put in there to test it, and whatever was inside of it didn’t work. He never touched the ceiling, but when I called back the third time to find out why nobody has been back out, the young lady told me that the electrician said that there wasn’t electricity in the ceiling. If someone comes out and they have a concern, they should call and tell me what their technician said about it. But I have been calling and calling, and American Home Shield told me that they were gonna call me back, like both ladies told me they were gonna investigate and call me back, but nobody ever called me back. I’m still waiting for somebody to call me about my ceiling before I put money out of my pocket and get another electrician to come in and do what I pay $700 and some a year to do.
Even with my microwave, my concern is the follow-up. A young man looked at it and said the fuse was blown. So, he put a new fuse in and he left. About a week later, I used the microwave and the fuse blew again. I called them back, and first, the man said that it had been more than 15 days. But when I called American Home Shield, the man came back. He opened the door and looked at it and he said that it was an electrical problem. So, American Home Shield would have to contact me with another electrician to come look at it. But I don’t get any follow-up. Also, if they send somebody out to fix something, the person should qualify to fix it.
Then when I called and tried to get a manager, everybody was busy. And half of the time, you don’t even understand what they’re doing because they’re speaking in Spanish. They try to understand me and I’m trying to understand them. But I don’t think it’s fair when they said they were gonna call me back yet I have never had a return call from American Home Shield about the electric-thing in the basement. If they are not gonna do it, they should let me know, but they also send somebody out to test it.

We're now back in business, so it's all good in the hood.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Gordon. It's good knowing that we were able to resolve your claim. Have an amazing weekend.

I had a toilet that was getting stuffed up, and it happened over and over and over again. We’d been dealing with it for about a year and I finally decided, “Okay, this is it.” I called American Home Shield and the provider called me back, emailed and texted me, all of it within an hour of me placing the call. They gave me an appointment because I told them it wasn’t urgent because at that time it was working. They opened me one appointment early in the week, and I chose later in the week because I was going to be home that day. They came in at the time they said they were gonna come in and they took care of the problem.
The tech said that there was a stoppage in the line, and he took care of it. He was very polite. Put some booties on to not damage my floor. I have tile floors so it didn’t make any difference, but I thought that was nice. It was a very pleasant experience, and American Home Shield was accessible, efficient and effective. Those are the domains of quality.
Isabel,

American Home Shield would do these check-up offers for you to have a vendor come out and do a check-up but if there’s something wrong with that item, the check-up doesn’t cover anything. You spent money on a check-up for nothing. I spent $75 to have my air conditioner checked on before the season started. Then when the season started, I had an air conditioning issue and they still charged me another $75 to have the same vendor that told me everything was okay 30 days before come out. I would have been better off just waiting for the thing to break. I even got the AHS person to admit that it was a scam.
If they're going to offer a preseason check-up, whether for water heaters before the winter or air conditioners before the summer, they should at least say that if you have an issue on that item within100 days, whatever you paid for the check-up goes towards paying for the visit in the event that you have some sort of issue. That just seems logical. But when I called them, they said, that it says in the fine print that it doesn’t apply if there’s an issue. I thought that that just makes them a shyster of a vendor. There’s no benefit for me to do preventative maintenance. It just costs me more money. If I have an issue that wasn’t foreseen, then I’ve got to pay for it again and I’m not gonna double pay. Now I’m just gonna wait for everything to break. It might wind up costing AHS more, but that’s not my problem.
Other than that, submitting claims through their app is easy. It’s all app and then text messages. Also, I had a great experience when AHS sent out Blue Star for a plumbing issue. I really like Blue Star as a company. The guys are very professional, well-presented and take care of things very quickly. They even put the little booties on before they walk into the house to make sure they’re not tramping any dirt. It’s pretty much everything you would ask for in a vendor.

American Home Shield has been great. I've had coverage with them since 2007 and I haven't had many claims, but when I have one, they've been very quick and they get it done. One day, I got woken up by the AC making an electric sound like shorting wires touching, so I explained that over the phone and when the tech came out, he did a really good job locating the faulty wire. He was on time, fixed it quickly and explained what happened. He also called ahead like he was supposed to and showed up when he said he was going. The tech was very respectful and nice. He looked at everything else too and he made sure they were okay. The AC has been working ever since perfectly.

American Home Shield's response time depends on the trade. If you're talking about air conditioning, it could take about three days. When I submitted an online claim for my dishwasher, they responded the very next morning, which was very good. It was making a very loud noise and had a small leak. The contractor diagnosed the problem and fixed a pump and a seal. However, the dishwasher is 11 years and I would rather have it replaced but they're not allowed to do that just because of age. Overall, AHS lives up to their contract.

I called in a claim to AHS and initially, I was leery because I really like to a live person but I did it through voice prompts. The process ended up being very efficient. I got a call within 5 minutes of hanging up from A 3 Aces Plumbing and & Drain Cleaning to schedule a visit. Their techs came out and it seemed like they were really rushed. Still, they spent some time with me and they were very courteous. When they installed the spigot to the copper tubing, there's an angle on it which I'm hoping wouldn't leak. They asked questions and moved stuff around to get to the area. They fixed my problem and everything has been perfect since.

I got an advertisement on my email from American Home Shield about having my furnace checked. I thought that was not a bad idea but maybe I should call someone. I had to pay for it anyways, so I did. The tech inspected my furnace and all this other stuff and said I needed $1,500 for the work. I said I didn't think I was gonna do that. I called American Home Shield about their advertised inspectors. I had somebody come out and inspect my furnace. I wanted to see what was going on.
They sent out Coaches HVAC and they did a nice job. Their technician was very nice. He told me things needed to be cleaned and I had already paid to have them cleaned. He showed me the dirt and all this stuff. He told me one part needed to be replaced which I was okay with. I was very impressed with how well Coaches did. The tech had me call American Home Shield to authorize him replacing this igniter thing and everything is fine. I’m very happy.

I've had them for at least 6 years now and I have comfort in knowing that if something goes wrong, they’re coming to help. When I had a claim for my AC, the representative who I spoke to over the phone said that I could expect contractors within 24 hours.
The Comfort First Heating & Cooling technician who came out was very nice, very knowledgeable, and courteous. He said that the coil had a hole in it and it needed to be replaced. And once they did that, they would have to put new Freon in it, and the cost to me was gonna be exorbitant. Since my house is 10 years old and the AC unit has been there the whole time, I thought I was gonna start having more problems later. So, they actually didn’t repair it because I decided to get a new unit and go with another company. Still, Comfort First did a good job.

Called in for microwave repair on 10/16. Took a week for representatives from Same Day Repair came to come diagnose. They were unable to fix the problem on site and determined that the problem should be from a faulty control panel. They informed us that our warranty company American Home Shield would need to determine replacement or repair. American Home shield then told us we needed to send the control panel for repair. On a following appointment the control panel was extracted which also disabled my oven while the panel was sent for repair. Had to wait for another month before they scheduled a third appointment to install the fixed part. After a month wait the part still did not work!
Now I am being informed that a second opinion is needed before a replacement authorization is issued. It’s been almost two months! Every time I call the customer service, my calls are routed to a foreign country where representatives throw out empathy words, yet when it comes to a resolution, no one cares and can address concerns. I have been on numerous calls and long wait times. When asking for manager I have been asked to hold for over 30 minutes after which my calls have been dropped. Really wondering how this company is allowed to operate legally.

We were without heat for two days. The thermostat was causing the furnace to short out. The first company that American Home Shield called, Stout Heating, said they never got the email. So I called American Shield back and they called the company back again the second time, which meant I was 24 hours delayed because of that.
The rep called this Stout company back again that morning and they told him they would call me within an hour. They never called. I finally called Stout Heating back, and they said that American Shield had just called, which I knew that was not the truth because I was on the phone when American Shield called. So I would never, ever want to be sent to Stout Heating and Cooling. They're not reputable and they lie. They caused my family to have an additional 24 hours without heat because they lied. American Home Shield needs to get rid of them. They had no kind of interrelations with the customer. They talked to me like I was a dog in the backyard. They were horrible.
After that, they sent out HRS, and they were excellent from the time I spoke with them on the telephone to the time the service gentleman came out. I could tell from the lady that I spoke with how reputable they were and customer-oriented. The service guy was on time, polite, and knowledgeable of what he had to do. I would take them every time because they did exactly what they said.
If American Shield called them first, then we wouldn't have had to spend 48 hours without heat. It wasn't fair that I had to wait those additional 24 hours because the first company lied. And then, after I talked to them, they still were not gonna come out within the 24-hour period. There may not be anything American Shield can do about that, but that was terrible because it wasn't anything I did. Somebody coulda made some kind of concession because it wasn't my fault. I did what I was supposed to do. But as far as the service we received, I have no complaints about it, and HRS was a great company.

I wrote a letter in October that I wasn’t quite clear on how to make a claim. And in the letter, I wrote several things that were wrong and some of the things I wasn’t quite sure whether they were covered or not. One was the icemaker wasn’t working on the refrigerator. They assigned somebody for that, and I told the contractor, “Well, I think the filter also needs to be replaced.” And the gal had said, “Well, that really isn’t covered, but we can put it in when we come out, if you go get the filter blah, blah, blah.” And they told me what the number was, and I went got the filter. The guy came out and he stuck the filter in and he goes, “Oh, that’ll solve everything,” and left. He didn’t even check to see if the icemaker was working. And it wasn’t. I had to call them back again, and then the guy came out and said, “Yeah, it’s not working.” And then he went away and ended up fixing it.
The other was the garbage disposal and the plumbing. On the garbage disposal, a guy came out from Rapp’s Plumbing. He was very helpful. He looked at the garbage disposal and said, “Well, it’s gonna need to be replaced.” We discussed the plumbing. He said some things he could do. The next week I got a call from Rapp’s Plumbing and they said, “Oh, well, he no longer works for us, but somebody else will come out and look at the stuff.” So, they had somebody else come out and he agree that the garbage disposal needed to be replaced and did that. But his story about the plumbing was different. At that time nobody told me to stop trying to plunge these toilets. I had one toilet that plugs up very frequently or has in the past, and about every two to three weeks it would plug up and it would take me a week or two to unplug it.
And then I had another toilet that plugged up more frequently but less intensely. And so at the time I wrote my letter in I was having trouble with both of those toilets. We’re two, old disabled people in the house but we got four bathrooms so we can kinda work around things. The plumber said, “Oh well, if they’re not plugged at the moment, we can’t do anything about them.” I was told lots of different stories. What this guy was saying that the toilet had to be lifted and it’s $455, and Home Shield would not be paying for it so I would have to be paying for it if I wanted to have it done. And two toilets, that’s 450 times two, is about $900.
Somebody from American Home Shield called trying to get me to renew, and I said I was kinda holding off on renewal till I found out about how they were doing on this service. The lady I talked to had been in the authorization department at one time or another. She said, “Well, if the toilet needs to be lifted, no, that’s something we cover. I don’t understand what they’re talking about. The next time they get plugged up, if they can let us know and we’ll have somebody else come out there and you call the right people.” I waited a couple of more weeks until they got plugged up again.
I called in and things were rather rough and rocky dealing with the Home Shield people. I talked to one lady and she really wouldn’t help me very much. I said, “Well, I’d like to talk to a supervisor.” She said, “We don’t have any supervisors.” She would not transfer me to a supervisor for nothing. So then, I got done with her. I called back in and got ahold of another gentleman. I told him I called in prior to talking to him and had said that the one toilet wasn’t working, and they’d put in a order for somebody to come out and look at the one toilet.
I also said, “Well, you know, a couple of days after that toilet stopped working, the other one that I’d been having trouble with, it stopped working.” He said, “Well, we can’t take and put in another request for another toilet at the same time you’ve already got one in.” And I go, “That doesn’t make any sense.” And I said, “Can I talk to a supervisor?” He said, “Okay. Well, there’s none around right now, but I’ll call you back in an hour.” So I sat by the phone for over an hour, and then I had to run out to the post office. I never did hear back from him, but he may have called after I left, because after an hour of sitting there by the phone waiting and then I had to run an errand.
I ran the errand, but there wasn’t any messages or anything. But when the guy from Rapp’s came out, he seemed to be willing to deal with the multiple toilet problem. This time around it went pretty good. I told him the history of the thing. I showed him the toilets that were not flowing, and he worked on them, Everything started working, and he left. My service from American Home Shield has been very uneven. Some people are extremely helpful and some people are much less helpful. I would say 50% of the time it wasn’t good, and about maybe a little less than 30% it was okay.

I told them there were two breakers that were broken but they just checked it, waited a little while and then left the house. They had to arrange another time to come back out to fix the second breaker, which took them three days to do so. They resolved it but they could've fixed it the day that they checked all the breakers. I’m a new owner and I’ve been with American Home Shield since last August and from my last experience with them, it’s not bad or good but the work was done. I’m not sure though if I got what I paid for but we’ve had to work and find someone at the house, and it was an inconvenience to pay and not get reimbursed for what I paid for.

My disposal was 12 inches and the contractor put an 8-inches in and then bent the pipes to make it work. It wasn't properly installed because they used an inferior unit and because of that, the ring, the rubber gasket around the garbage disposal came loose and caused the same problem. It was leaking again. About a couple of months later, I called them back out and said the same thing was happening. The technician just looked at it and said that the gasket was leaking but he couldn’t do anything with that because this was the garbage that they said could be compatible to the outlet.
I didn't have a problem with that but when they came here, the disposal didn't work but the whole plumbing system worked. I wanted them to put a working, operable garbage disposal and make sure the plumbing works. Then, at about the same amount of time, the flange breaks again. The rubber drum is sticking out but it wasn't broken. I told him that the way they got this positioned, it would never work. He said he knew what to do and what he should do, but the rules told him he couldn’t.
The guy never was belligerent and I liked his attitude. He was very courteous, came on time and had prompt services. He had a good attitude all three times he came and he gave excellent service but I had a problem with what he was saying about contract rules. I asked to talk to their boss and so, he did whatever it took to make it right on the third time. He told me what was wrong with it. He said he would take care of it and he did. He reduced the strainer and put a shorter one in. I asked him why he didn’t do it in the first place if that was what was going to take to make the garbage disposal work. I said that if I gotta pay another $100, I don't have need of the service.
If it was the sink or the faucet leaking or it was something else, then I would say that I could understand but then, they said that they wanted to charge me another $100 to come back out and fix the same problem. That was the third time he had come out here. So, the lady at AHS got a hold of me and she said that she understood what I was saying, so I would be charged for the deductible on that day but she was gonna reverse it. I just called about a week ago and I told her that they charged my card but I didn't see it reversed. She said that it would probably be reversed off my card Monday or Tuesday. I'm satisfied with my service now, but I just wasn't feeling that.

The guy from Stuart's Appliance was able to repair my appliance, which was wonderful because I did not want to have to purchase a new one. So, we were pleased with his service and expediency in coming to take care of it. We, however, had horrible experience in July of this year when our air condition went out and we were working. It was a horrible experience submitting the claim. The errors made were unbelievable. Being cut off, not being able to understand, they made mistakes by calling the wrong department.
I wrote a letter of complaint to the complaint department and I received a letter back from the administrative office. I was very impressed that they responded so well. They ended up reimbursing us for four days that we would have stayed in a hotel. It ended up being 17 days before we had it repaired. They had to replace it. At that point, we started looking at other places where we might be able to get a warranty. We have been with the company since 2003 or 2004, so that was not a good experience and that soured us for a while. We also had an issue with my microwave, and that was not a good experience. My husband had put everything through the computer, the order, the choice, and a deposit for it.
But the last two experiences have been good. Our garbage disposal was a good experience as well. I was impressed with their services. So, we would like to stay with American Home Shield because, reputation-wise and advertisement-wise, it has been great. But my understanding is that the resources that they are using now from the Philippines has been a negative experience for the company, and I hope that they will consider going back to American sources.

The technician from Klenk Appliance Repair came out today and he was great and professional. The dishwasher cycled one time totally fine, and then after that it was doing the .20 error code at 67 minutes. The dishwasher starts at 133 minutes, and it does totally fine until 67 minutes, and then it beeps. You have to get up, hit cancel and then start and close the door again. Then it's fine for about 5 to 10 minutes and then it's .20 and beeps, and it goes all the way through the entire cycle every 5 to 10 minutes. If I leave the house, it will eventually shut off at 67 minutes and it won't finish the cycle. The technician wasn’t familiar with that code and he was looking for a specific F or L. I have pictures of the error code. I have a video of me for 45 minutes coming back and forth and turning off and restarting. I couldn’t tell him there was an error code because this was all I saw.
I ran it this morning and when he got there, it was beeping at the 67 minutes. He pressed and I said that it always goes back off about 58 minutes. But he kept on opening the door. So, I don't know if that's what didn't trigger the beep to go off at 58 minutes. So, I told him to leave the door closed for 10 minutes and just wait for the beep because it would beep. He ended up restarting the entire machine.
The technician said that the .20 could be a pressure sensor. I asked if it could be a King's valve in the back and if that was what was pushing on the pressure sensor. He wasn't sure and I told him that it was what he just replaced. He even said that he replaced everything but it's still flashing. The entire time, whatever he fixed didn’t really fix what my issue was from the entire beginning. In theory, if you're replacing hundreds of dollars of material, you would think that it would fix whatever the problem was but I've only seen the .20 and then the beeping every after 67 minutes all the way down.

I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and usually they’re good. And lately they’re better. You can get them on the phone much faster. You don’t have to sit on the line for a long time. The only thing I had a problem with them this past summer was with the plumber. What happened was the plumber wanted extra money and called me directly, demanding a credit card. I contacted AHS and they reimbursed me the $100 fee that I paid. But the problem was never fixed. And I called many times, sat on the phone on hold for an hour. It’s been six months and I'm tired. I don’t have the patience already. But I was happy with their contractor, GMI. They’re very professional, very precise and on time. The contractor called back right away. And when he said what needs to be done, he sent the information. It was clear. And then when they decided to go ahead with the changes because it was extra pay, he did it right away.

We have been so pleased with American Home Shield. We’ve been using them for a number of years. We used to have only a couple of appliances covered. When we lived in South Florida, there was a company called Service America that we had used. We are not handy. We don’t have the right tools around the house, and we wouldn’t know what to do with them if we had them. So, we hire people to get stuff done.
With American Home Shield, our yearly cost went up but we have more than pay for it. All of our appliances are covered, and it covers electrical and it covers plumbing, and what they charge when they come to the house is a set $75 no matter what is wrong. When you have an electrician walk into your house, it’s $200 before he walks out. We had an electrical issue that was my fault. It was really easy to fix, but he walked in and knew exactly what was wrong. We just had a plumber come because we had some sinks in the bathroom that had hair in the traps and we had somebody try to fix it for us, and then my husband tried. It was a double sink. So, when the plumber came, he fixed two sinks within about 45 minutes. It was $75 for a plumber.
We also had a refrigerator in the garage that was ancient and the gasket went on it. And so, all my produce was freezing because warm air would get in. So AHS said, “Okay. If we can’t fix the gasket, we’ll get you a new refrigerator.” We have a brand new $900 refrigerator that we didn’t pay more than $75 for. We’re really pleased. The guys who come to the house are people in the community. But we have been absolutely so pleased for the money. We pay 250 bucks a year. The refrigerator paid for our yearly premium for the next couple years. It’s a brand-new one with no icemaker. We didn’t want one. And we picked it out also. They said, “Go to this website, pick a refrigerator that you like.” This is the one we think is good. I didn’t want an icemaker because I don’t have water in my garage. So, we’re thrilled.
The delivery guys showed up with it and then I hooked it up myself. I plugged it into a different plug for 24 hours before I decided to switch refrigerators. They took the old one away. So, we didn’t have to worry about that either. We have been more than pleased with them. That was a fluke. We never expected that. Ultimately, we have one of these duet dryers that we’ve had for a number of years, and the timer has gone on it, and at some point, in the next couple of months, we’ll have somebody come out to fix the timer on our dryer. That’s not cheap either. So, no matter what it is, it’s $75.

I have tried to get someone to look at my ductwork and have filed claims with American Home Shield twice. However, they keep sending plumbers out when it's not a plumber's job. I got reimbursed for the fee one time but I'm gonna call again about them sending people who handle ductwork and not regular plumbers. For another claim, though, they sent A&S Plumbing and they had to replace a part for the shower. The guy who came out was really nice and he did a great job.

My dryer was not heating too well. So I placed a service request with Home Shield through the website, and a contractor was assigned and initially sent to us. The first contractor came and said it was an issue with the exhaust from the dryer, which could have been clogged, and went away, saying that the cleaning of the exhaust would not be covered under the scope of the current insurance. But to my recollection, I had just occupied that house for four months and I had already done the duct cleaning before I moved in. That was not a probable cause.
When I raised it up with an American Home Shield agent, they assigned it to Express. Maurice was the technician who came in. Right away, he set to work, and he was very professional and identified the issue to be with the thermostat. He knew exactly what to look for based on the symptoms that we mentioned and spotted the issue right away. It was very happy. He ordered the parts for us, and a week later, we scheduled another appointment with Maurice. He came in and he fixed it. The dryer has been working great ever since. The troubleshooting has been excellent. Scheduling the second visit for Maurice was over the phone because the Express call center was very busy. That was one thing I didn't like about that.
AHS been functional for the most part. I think you luck out with the contractor that you get assigned, which is 90% of the experience. The website has been fine in terms of scheduling it, and the contractor usually gets ahold of you within 48 hours. But the bulk of the experience lies on the time that the contractor spends with you. So, that's what I value. In this particular dryer claim, I was not at all pleased with the first technician that came in. It didn't help that they didn't troubleshoot it correctly. On a couple of other instances, I've had good and moderate experiences, so it heavily depends on who gets sent out.
Tijo,

Supertech Appliance was great. They came out, identified the problem, listened to what we were talking about and they fixed it. But we had a huge issue with American Home Shield recently. It wasn't so much American Home Shield. It was easy to get a claim started and get the process going, and they originally sent out another provider that went out to our property. They looked at our refrigerator. I don't live there, my tenant does. My tenant said the guy walked in there. The temperature wasn't being controlled, it was fluctuating all over the place. The guy flapped some kind of a panel and said, "Oh it's the thermometer." He changed it out and left. It was 20 minutes.
It started happening again. So, they sent the guy out to do the exact same thing again. We asked why they were not pulling out the refrigerator, looking around the outside, and try to diagnose the problem. This guy didn't do any of that. Meanwhile, I was on the phone with American Home Shield trying to tell them they're not investigating the problem. I don't fix refrigerators, and that's why I hire American Home Shield. It took over a month for this to get repaired, and meanwhile, my tenants are in that house with two young children with a not operating refrigerator.
Every time I called American Home Shield, I had to talk to a different representative every time and go through this lengthy explanation. Over and over, I had to repeat what my issue is, and I had to escalate it to somebody else. I must have repeated the story about 10 times and to 10 different people. It was awful. We are actively looking at getting somebody else and not using American Home Shield. They should have checked out the providers a little bit better and sent out a good provider that would actually diagnose the problem. I've never had an issue with American Home Shield, but that guy didn't do his job. I had to keep calling back American Home Shield over and over again.
Finally, American Home Shield sent out somebody else without me paying $100, and that was when Supertech came out. It took over a month to have the right people come in and fix it in three days. And with the first people they sent, we've gotten to almost shouting matches with the owner of that place, which was so stressful. It was the most miserable experience I've ever had in my life.
When there's a case that gets escalated, American Home Shield needs to have one person that handles it and talks through it, so I don't have to call every day and repeat it over and over again for a month to other people. They're like, "No, I can handle it. I can handle it." And I'd sit there and I spent hours. If there's an issue, someone needs to grab hold of the issue and follow it through the end. They need like a resolution department that handles the issue from once it gets escalated. I get the call centers. I know they wanna handle everything that they can, but at some point, it needs to get passed off to someone that's gonna finish the job. We've been paying with them for years, and we're just trying to take a break from American Home Shield right now. They need to also vet their contractors out better.

I had been trying to use a Shop-Vac to suck it out, but the angle was not right so I was not getting everything out. The tech ended up having to cut a part of the PVC to blow it out and it worked perfectly after he did that. He was very fast and thorough, so it was very convenient. That was the last thing we did on the house before we sold it because I wanted make sure everything was working before we left. The warranty was supposed to be transferable to the buyer.

The claims process is typically pretty easy. Most of the time, the contractors have been good. We’ve had a few issues where they’ve sent somebody out who couldn’t fix the issue after multiple trips. And then, we complained enough where they sent another team or company out who fixed the problem pretty quickly. But that was about 10 years ago.
There was an issue with this particular case where there was quite a bit of confusion when my wife put in the request and it went to Samuel & Sons. This was a repeat trip, and we had to call back a couple of times to get the issue fixed. We ended up calling back on a Friday, and it was referred to Samuel & Sons again, but then we called them and they said that there was a recording that said they weren’t open on weekends. So why was this getting dispatched to somebody who’s not open on the weekends when this is a recurring issue? And if we know these people aren’t gonna be working, then why is it getting sent to them? So the person from American Home Shield didn’t have all the information and wasn’t able to provide answers.
I’ve come to find out from another representative who we talked to later on the following week that they have about 24 business hours where it would’ve been within their policy, but the person just wasn’t armed with the information to explain it. And there was a little bit of a language barrier where he couldn’t clearly explain that to us or didn’t have the knowledge to explain it to us.

I do the claims online with American Home Shield and the website is easy to get my orders in so, it works good. But it’s a hit or miss on when to expect the contractors. Sometimes, they get to me within an hour and other times, it doesn’t work as smoothly. Also, I wish that AHS would let me pick my own contractor. We have higher end appliances and there were certain contractors I had that didn’t work on our brands, but AHS would still assign them. I would call the contractor and say that I know that they don’t work on this brand and that I don’t want them to come out. So, I have to call American Home Shield back and ask them to get someone else, which they do. They’re very helpful. Quite a few times, I’ve had to go through where I have to get the contractor and then, I submit the bill back to American Home Shield. So, that’s when there’s a delay.
My garage door wasn’t opening so the contractor came out and fixed it but it broke again. So, they came back and fixed it. I like the guys from Four Seasons and they were very friendly. They kept trying to upsell me about other services they were doing, which I’m fine with a little bit because I understand that world but I don’t like being pressured.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for 12 years. In the beginning, their customer service was worse than bad. It was so slow and you’d sit on hold for hours but the phone calls level has improved dramatically. AHS is a great thing and it is a big relief for me because I’m a guy that used to fix everything, and I don’t need to be doing that. I’m 64 and I don’t have to climb up on a ladder to fix the fan. So, I love having the ability to just type in if something’s broken. I don’t have to tell my wife that I'll fix that and then, three weeks later, she would say that the dryer is still not working. Also, 75 bucks is the perfect price for me. I’m totally fine with paying that and knowing that these things are being taken care of.

We had some type of leakage where there was spraying in the backyard and flooding around the house, and there was a foul odor throughout the house and throughout the backyard. I called American Home Shield and I was informed who the contractor would be. We had two different contractors, and one of them was really good while another was a little bit more difficult to deal with because of a lack of communication on both parties. Apparently, the line separated and they put an attachment to where they can reattach the hose, and they used some type of glue. The leakage was taken care of but it was more of a temporary fix and we were informed that we’ll probably have to replace the whole thing. They did a recall to see if the warranty or if the previous homeowner was covered for the permanent fix, but we haven’t gone further than that.

I was very upset and not happy with the AC guy. I was also upset and sad that I couldn’t get my air conditioning unit fixed. But I came to find out that I had cut off the circuit breaker during the winter. I forgot until my son came home and asked if I cut it from inside the house. However, when the AC came, he never asked if the circuit breaker was off for the unit so I went through the whole summer without air conditioning. He said he couldn’t fix it and that in 2020, my unit was gonna be no good anyway because it was an environmental hazard and it would be pulled out. I had to buy a whole new unit. I would have liked to have seen someone who would check everything to make sure that the unit was on from the circuit breaker.
However, the gentleman that came for my electrical issue did well. He was excellent, very courteous and professional. The electrical sockets on one side of the house downstairs weren’t working and they were burnt out. He moved so quick and fast. It took him half an hour to resolve the issue. I was very happy with him. Also, I like the plan that AHS has and the price.

I submit claims over the phone to American Home Shield and the customer service has been good so far. I’ve been with AHS for less than a year and the people they’ve sent out has done a good job. One problem was that they were originally going to send someone from 100 miles away but we contacted them about that and they sent someone from a little bit closer.
Our dishwasher went out while we had a houseful of Thanksgiving company and what we understood was that American Home Shield would get our dishwasher fixed within a very reasonable time. Instead, we called Monday and they had somebody who couldn’t come out until next Wednesday and that was entirely too much. We pay $100 prior to the contractor coming and we pay an annual fee of nearly $600, and that was not fair that we had to wait nine days. We also had a claim for the washer and they did the same thing. They called the same place that doesn’t come over but once every Wednesday. Unless they're booked, they can’t come over till the next Wednesday. I complained and they sent over Sears, and we got the lady that was so good and she came out the next day. She was professional, knew exactly what she was gonna do and it was a pleasure to have her in our home.
AHS has one person that they call, and if that person can’t come out for two weeks or however long, then we have to settle for that. Whenever we went with them, we thought that they were going to have a number of people that they could call and they would get someone out to take care of our situation. If this was plumbing, we can’t wait on stuff. We need to get it fixed. We’ve already paid for the year but I am not pleased with this at all and I will not stay with AHS.
Hi Carter & Anne Reed,
I hate to hear that your experience has been less than satisfactory. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution to have the dishwasher repaired.

Our washer had a bad transmission and we submitted a claim to AHS. Sears came out in a day or two and the tech they sent was very good. He told me my washing machine, even though it was old, was a workhorse and it was worth keeping. I liked hearing that. Since he repaired it, the machine has been working great. At the same time, I also requested AHS to have someone come out to repair the gasket in the freezer part of my refrigerator. They sent Rocket Repair who came a couple of days after Sears. They said I needed a new gasket and said that they would have to order it.
We set up an appointment for the following Wednesday and the Rocket Repair tech said he would be at our place between 10:00 and 2:00. I waited all day and he never showed up and didn't call. I called Rocket Repair and they told me that as the tech was coming to my house, he discovered the gasket was the wrong color and he didn't come anymore. Still, he didn't call. They reordered but it took three weeks. I kept calling Rocket Repair and they kept saying they were waiting for the gasket.
Last week, I couldn't call as I was too busy with company. I called on Monday and Rocket Repair told me that they had the gasket and asked me if I still wanted it. I told them I did and the tech came out. He pulled the gasket out of the box and though it was the right color, he found that it was for the refrigerator side and not for the freezer. Now, I'm waiting again and the whole saga has been going on for about a month. It's a little discouraging. Even so, AHS has been pretty good to me so far.

Everyone that I’ve dealt with that has a business or a homeowner has always been very positive with American Home Shield. Their name is well known. With American Home Shield, I have the ability to file a claim as simply as just clicking and doing a couple of notes and then sending the person out there. And then a couple days later, the person calls you, and follows up with you. The people that work for American Home Shield or that have contracted with them are professionals.
I had my card that I had initially set up with American Home Shield, but the information was stolen so I had to cancel it. So when the payment came through, it was being denied. I called and I updated it and the payment went through. But I kept getting emails and attempt to run the card even after I called and I spoke to the gentleman and he said it was taken out of the system. The system still had it registered. It has stopped, but they did try to run the card three more times. So it was a little annoying and that was my only drawback. But as far as everything else, it’s been pleasant.

They showed up on time and took care of what I wanted taken care of. That time, we thought there were problems but then all my issues required was cleaning for the vent in the dryer and to not put so much laundry in my washer. They made a follow-up call due to the Thanksgiving holiday and said the technician would call on Sunday to let me know what time on Monday he’d come. He did just that. He checked out everything and looked to see what the issue was because that was something they had done before. And it was that. He happened to have the part and it was resolved within 20 minutes of him getting here. I understood it was the Thanksgiving holiday and people were off, companies were closed. They stuck to their word when they said they would call on Sunday to give me a timeframe of when they would be here on Monday. I like that and I really enjoy them.
I stayed with AHS for over 10 years because of, number one, the convenience. If something does happen to an appliance on the home, it’s nice to know that I can call and pay the small fee to have someone come, look and determine what the issue really is and if it is fixable. They finally tell me about a plan that reimburses for coverage as I'm canceling their policy, not during the multiple phone calls with them complaining about this problem. Their sales staff is either uninformed or intentionally mislead. One of their vendors said he would order a part for us. We call to for an update on the part only to find out that he never ordered it because he told AHS we broke the stove. He never told us that he was doing this after the service call. We have to call to dispute this. They send another one of their vendors who fixes the stove in 15 minutes without any parts. They charge me $100 to cancel the contract. I say buyer BEWARE!!

RUN AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN FROM THIS COMPANY! Have been trying to get my refrigerator fixed for over 2 months. The first contractor they sent out twice but their reports were not good enough to where that contractor refused to keep wasting their time and wouldn't come anymore. Next they called Sears repair, they diagnosed that it needs a plumber. AHS did not like that and insisted that Sears keep coming until they would make a different diagnosis. Sears came again and said the same. Again AHS not happy and wanted them to come again and made 4 more appointments for me and each time Sears would cancel. Sears will only give you a window of 8am-5pm, so each appointment I had to rearrange my whole day for nothing. AHS says Sears never sent in the diagnosis from their last appointment which was 11/4/19. Today is 11/30/19. And still they say no diagnosis has received. Sears says they sent it at least a dozen times.
There is an apparent war between the two companies and they have put the customer in the middle and I am suffering for it. AHS has set up yet another for 12/2/19. I told them I have a doctor's appointment made 3 months ago, they actually suggested I cancel my doctor's appointment, after all this is more important than my health. Or allow someone into my home to be there, setting me up to be a victim. NO! AHS refused to make another appointment and refused to cancel it, I told him I would not be here a portion of the day. The technician would only cancel it again for the 5th time anyway, and I would have lost my Dr. Appt.
I told AHS that I was not comfortable with Sears and the games that they are playing with me and AHS and wanted someone new to come out. I have been over accommodating and patient between these two companies and something needs to end. In the meantime, AHS continues to collect my money. I have spent the majority of my hours on the phone with these 2 companies, and want my life back and a working refrigerator. They are not considerate of their customers' needs.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

AHS is a scam. We’ve had this service for over 10 years (shame on us) but they are VERY incompetent. The contractors are idiots and CANNOT repair ANYTHING. EVERY appliance that we have requested service on has REPEATEDLY broken down with the same issue. The contractors order the wrong parts, install the wrong parts, half ** fix things that fault immediately after their 60 day warranty. Every customer service rep is incompetent and barely speaks English. DO NOT BUY AHS or HSA Home Warranty, Landmark Home Warranty, OneGuard Home Warranty. ALL SCAMS!!!!

I purchased a warranty from AHS in July. Between July and November, I’ve contacted them 5 times. The first time was immediately after moving in to the house (under warranty). On day one, the AC unit quit. It was 98 degrees out. They told me it would be 3-5 days before service could be provided. I completed the repair myself at my own cost. One month after moving in, we noticed staining and water marks appearing on the dining room ceiling below the master bath shower. AHS dispatched a technician who said the leak was caused by old caulking. New caulk was applied and the leak was not fixed.
AHS was called again to repair the leak. They were informed that the leak was coming from the shower drain based on evidence of previous repair (a large section of dining room ceiling had been replaced). AHS refused to open the ceiling to inspect and repair the leak. The leak is continuing until I can replace the shower pan. AHS will not cover the cost of repair. Shortly after the leak was detected, the spring on the garage door broke. AHS said it was covered and ordered a repair scheduled in 5 days. Since both cars were stuck in the garage, I made the repair myself. Later AHS said the spring was not covered anyway.
This morning, the water heater quit working. I called in a request for service, paid the fee and was told the soonest service could occur would be in 4 days. I requested earlier service and was told that AHS would check and call back. Later, I called AHS to get an update and was told the order had been canceled. Nice. So, I placed a new work order. Service is scheduled for 5 days from now. Bottom-line, AHS is not reliable, provides less than good service, and can’t be trusted to get it right. I would recommend anyone but AHS if you’re looking for a home warranty company.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

The heating element in the dishwasher failed. so I made a claim to American Home Shield. There was a little confusion on getting Appliance Guard out, so it took about four or five days before they were able to come out. But, once we got them out here, the guy fixed the dishwasher. Everything was fine.
Its good knowing that we were able to resolve your claim John. I apologize for the delay in services in regards to your dishwasher. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have a great week.

I went out a week for Thanksgiving weekend and when I came back on Sunday, I saw the entire kitchen was flooded. So, I went up to the bathroom, and I saw water in the bathroom upstairs. It was coming down in the walls too, damaging the walls, the cabinets and the flooring upstairs and downstairs. I called American Home Shield. I, however, was holding on for a while and did not get anyone. So, I put in the request on email. They contacted me the next day.
The guy from All Hours Emergency Plumber was great. I've had him before working on issues in the house. He said the leak was coming from the valve and the little thing at the bottom where you turn the pipe. He was there for a while, but he only did it in one visit. He came early in the morning and did not leave until the afternoon. He and another gentleman was there, and someone else from the home warranty company was trying to get the water and stuff out. Since the repair, the toilet has been good.

I find it very easy to file a claim. When the drain was clogged up somewhere from the sink to the drainage pipe on the outside, American Home Shield sent Your Texas Plumber. I've had American Home Shield for about seven years now and I haven't had complaints with any of the contractors that they've sent out so far.
Good Morning Roger,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

Within a few hours of submitting my claim to American Home Shield, Bluepoint contacted me and quickly set up an appointment. Now, they're still in the process of fixing something and they've been great so far. We'll probably continue using them for general service for our systems as well. American Home Shield's system worked very well that it got my concerns over to Bluepoint without us having to contact anybody. It was all handled online and was about a two-minute process. The system was specific on the issues that we had and Bluepoint pretty much had an idea of what was going on. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I’ve owned five homes and I’ve Home Shield with all of them. I’ve had some bad experiences with the last house that we had. The pool people came out because I had to have them about four times and the one that was sent out wasn’t worth the slip. We had another one come out and they left a mess. They parked in the driveway, left an oil stain in the driveway, and we had pavers.
But the latest contractor we had, a gentleman from Baylis & Baylis, was very nice. He showed us our thermostat because we also had this dehumidifier that was next to it and when it got to a certain humidity, it kicks the thermostat. What had happened is it kicked the thermostat off and I didn’t know that. We were trying to find out why it was cold and it wouldn’t go on. So, we thought it was broken. He explained that it wasn’t and to leave that thing off and quit even trying to deal with it. Ever since we shut it off, we’ve had no problems. If I have an electrical problem, I would ask for them.
We appreciate you sharing your warranty experience Darlene. We look forward to handling your warranty needs.

Jonathan from United Air Temp was superb. I can’t wait to have him back. I have excellent experiences that go back decades with United Temp. They are a superb company. They pride themselves with well-earned excellence, doing their job correctly and wanting the customer to be pleased. Regrettably, American Home Shield had done some business with some other companies that are disappointing, and I would have to use the word very unsatisfied for some other companies that they’ve used.
I had a company who was inferior. I paid the $75 deductible and the contractor did a half-** job. I had to hire someone else. I should’ve called back because of the warranty. The guy was just so focused on his next job, was rushing and didn’t complete the job. For a lot of people it’s common sense that when you have services done it’s really good to have a few choices because you can look them up on reviews. And if one gets, out of 500 reviews, 1 star, you don’t wanna do business with that company. I don’t believe AHS gives a choice. It’s just they give it to you, and then you can call back, or unless you happen to be online you can tell them, “Look, I don’t want this company. I’ve read about them and I want a more reputable company.”
Robert,
I apologize that your experience with us was not satisfactory. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

We were having problems with the hot water running out. We submitted a claim over the phone and the rep was great. The next day, Steven A. Mills Plumbing was scheduled to come out. When they came, the technician was good and took care of everything the same day.

The right sink on our two-sink kitchen setup was leaking. It’s a brand-new kitchen from last year and it seemed like the connection was stripped. The guy from All American Plumbing and Rooter replaced the bottom of the right sink, which came with a new pipe. Then, he replaced the little elbow that joins the right sink over to the left sink. He tested it to make sure it was working and everything went well. Then, he said that he did not get the order to fix the sprayer for the second time.
I got one of those pull-down sprayer faucets and about two and a half weeks ago, we called because the sprayer had malfunctioned. The first guy took the part, tightened something and it has been working fine. But since he left, the buttons were getting stuck inside. The guy from All American took it apart and he said that it had a faulty deflector and that they couldn’t replace it but he would look to see what the part was. So I told him while he was doing that, I was gonna run over to Home Depot. Today, the lady gave me the part number and said I have to make a claim with another company to see if I could get a replacement.
AHS did a good job. Three weeks ago, the bathroom sink and the faucet needed to be replaced because the parts were old and needed to be updated. The guy had to order the part and they came three days later. It was a different guy who came over and he was very fast. He was neat, he cleaned up his mess and made sure I was comfortable with the faucet turning on and off, and the plunger feature. The shower head was fixed the first time and it just gave out. There was no cleaning it with that material or that solution to get rid of the lime and he said it was way beyond that. He went to his truck, got the part, swapped out the shower head and it works like a charm now. So, I was trying to join all the services together. They did a good job.
Good Morning, My name is Robert and I will be following up with you to ensure this is resolved.

I heard good things about American Home Shield so I went with them. When I submitted a claim over the phone, the service I got was fine. DA Tropics Pool came and they were very good. I had a motor that went out. I have a company that maintains my pool, and at that time, they had said that they could not find the motor that would fit the pump. But, apparently, it wasn't a problem with the new folks.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Frank. Have an amazing week.
