It was very easy to put in the request with American Home Shield. They assigned All-American Plumbing & Rooter to my claim and when I called to confirm that they’ve received the order or the request, they set the appointment up and came when they said they would. They said they would be there between 8:00 and 12:00 in the morning, and the gentleman said close to 8 o’clock and they were there at 8 o’clock. Everything was wonderful.
Good afternoon Beverly,

AHS's tech from Island Breeze HVAC gave me some tips on how to maintain my system. That time, I was not getting sufficient airflow in one of my back bedrooms. Submitting a claim to AHS was very easy. The tech took take care of what he could take care of without me doing some extra work to the system. His service was very satisfactory. So far, I've renewed my policy with AHS. I'm satisfied with the work they do.

My recent claim for my heating was the first time we've ever had a good call with AHS besides the claim for our dryer. With them, I haven't been able to talk to anybody and over the phone, I would never get the right person. We would call them for a plumbing issue but then they would send us heating people. This is because AHS' reps are foreigners and they don't understand us. Previously, we had submitted a plumbing claim for our sink and AHS sent us electrical people. So we called and AHS called another company and made us wait three days. Our sink was broken and our water was turned off. The company AHS called couldn't come either. And so, we hired somebody that could come in that day and fix it, and cost us $250. AHS refunded my $75 that I had already paid and it took a week to get that back in my account.
This time, I submitted a claim online and it was amazing. We got a call within two hours. The next day, the tech they sent from Weatherwise came. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He explained everything. He was certified to do what he was gonna do and he took care of my problem. Usually, AHS takes my money out of my account immediately. This time, their guy came and fixed everything first, then they took my money. This last claim was wonderful.
Thanks for providing your feedback and we are delighted to know your most recent claim was handled. We do apologize for the previous incident and will take into consideration, what has happened.

The guy AHS sent came with the parts, which saved time, for the dryer to be fixed. Normally, a lot of times, these people come out and it takes a minute because they have to order a part to come back out. So it was very convenient that he had the part with him when he came. He was also very informative and let me know every step of the way what he had done. I've been with AHS for 6 years and they're a great service provider -- the after service included. But sometimes the process of submitting claims is a little bit longer. Once you submit, you have to wait for the service provider to schedule the time. It's not what I consider a timely manner.

They were efficient, cleaned up after themselves, and explained everything.

I had an issue with the washer and AHS sent out the techs from LA Appliance for a service. They came at the time that they said. Plus, they called me before they came because that was what I asked since the window was kinda long, and they did that. So, the technician was very professional and I had a very nice experience. Other than that, I had a previous home warranty at one time and they did pre-maintenance services. For instance, they pre-check stuff out so that you can keep up the service and the longevity of it would be longer. But this one did not do that. So, that’s the only downfall that I have for this particular home warranty.

A couple of weeks ago, I filed a claim for a dryer to be repaired. It was making a lot of noise while spinning. The rubber seal inside was rubbing against the outside. AHS gave us a window when to expect the repairperson. The repair person disassembled the dryer and fixed it very quickly and now there is no noise. A couple of years ago, we had some furnace issues that were frustrating because there were several repairs made over several weeks. It was just one part after another. One part breaks down, they put in a new part, but then something else breaks down. The furnace was about 12 years old though, so you do what you can.
We are pleased to know that the dryer issue was handled correctly. As for the furnace issue we do apologize there was a slight delay. We do appreciate you reaching out to us for assistance, and we thank you for being a loyal customer.

I had an issue with my air conditioner last summer. Instead of trying to fix it, the gentleman that Total Air Care sent out basically told me that the unit was too small for my house. The house was built in '94 and the unit has been working all this time. So, he initially did not want to do anything. Then, they came back out and he replaced something, and it worked for the rest of the summer.
When we started having issues with the heater in the wintertime, I requested American Home Shield not to use Total Air Care because I was not satisfied with the service. But American Home Shield insisted and assigned me to them anyway. It took them seven trips, changing different things each time until they finally got to the point where they realized it needed to be replaced. American Home Shield then explained to me what my out of pocket cost would be. The first mistake that was made was Total Air Care left off one of the things that I was responsible of paying for. So American Home Shield gave me one quote and then Total Air Care gave me another. I had to dispute back and forth for about a day, but eventually, I paid it.
I inquired about getting the total cost of the replacement of my furnace, not just the out of pocket expenses, but no one gave it to me. I asked four times. American Home Shield and Total Air Care just kept tossing me back between the other, insisting that neither one of them could give me the service. The reason I was asking is because, as a consumer, I want to know if it is in my best interest to use the warranty program or I may have been able to get a better quote without it. I've had estimates for a total replacement of heating and air that stop at $5,600. Finally, Total Air Care gave me one, but I wondered where they would get $8,000 just for my furnace. But I let that go.
The last straw was the day they took the unit in - it is so loud. It's like a freight train going through my house. They first told me to change my filter, then they said that the unit is pulling so much air through the return that I probably need another return vent. And I'm thinking to myself, were measurements not taken when they estimated to replace the furnace? Was an assessment not done to determine everything that I would need? Even if I had to pay for that out of pocket, I would've been okay with that to have my unit run efficiently and not sound like a freight train. I had to literally go out and buy a soundbar to put on my TV so I could hear it over the heater.
I contacted Total Air Care and American Home Shield but neither of them responded in a manner that was satisfactory. They were both trying to convince me that there's nothing wrong with my unit - that it is fixed and working properly. It's heating. They said they just need to have someone call and explain it to me, which is not needed. I understand the concept of the unit working properly, but if I need additional ductwork, then let us get that done so that the unit won't be so loud.
Also, when they did the install, they didn't bring a carbon monoxide detector. Luckily, I already had one in my home. So, when the guy came back out to put that in, it was a different tech. I ran the whole idea of the additional duct by him. His response was, "You know, it's just gonna be loud. This is a high-speed motor, it's just gonna run loud. You could do additional ductwork, but I wouldn't tell you that. Because why waste your money if you don't need it? It's just going to be loud." He explained a few more technical aspects of it about the fan and how many revolutions it was making, and why it would be so loud, and I kinda accepted it. He gave me a little more of an in-depth explanation of what could be causing all the noise.
A lady from Total Air Care promised me that she was going to check with her regional person to see what they could do to resolve the issue but she never called me back. I'm done with Total Air Care. I also spent about an hour and a half on the phone with a rep from American Home Shield, because I was really upset, and she reimbursed half of the service fee. That was sweet, but that didn't have anything to do with solving my problem.
Good afternoon,

I've been using AHS for about seven years on my mom's home and for at least 15 years on mine. For the most part, they have been really quick. However, there have been a couple of instances when I have gone in online and they have assigned a particular vendor that I have had very bad experiences with. He didn’t fix the problem, didn’t return my calls, and it took me a month to get my issue fixed. I have had to call AHS back and say, “I don’t want you sending them.” Since they immediately assign a vendor, there should be a way that I can say, "I don’t want this vendor.” I have nothing but good to say about AMP Plumbing though. They were prompt, courteous, and answered my questions. And they fixed the problem.

Mister Freeze came out the first time because the air was not getting hot. They said that they fixed it, but the master bedroom was cold. They came back out a second time, and they said that it was fixed correctly the first time but that the bedroom is so far away from the unit that it would take a long time for the bedroom to get heated up. Overall, Mister Freeze was good. When I have a claim, I call American Home Shield's 800 number, and I talk to the lady, and then once it’s been approved then I call the vendor.
The appliance people were good. But I haven't really had any issue with the people, except for the plumber that came out. I wasn’t crazy about his personality. Also, I did not like the electrician that came out. He had a bad attitude. I'm not happy with American Home Shield’s service because they don’t pay for so many things. The light switch in the garage that controls the light on the outside of the garage needed to be replaced, but the electrician said that they would not replace that. Last time, I didn’t use the insurance. I just called the plumber because I didn’t wanna pay $75 for a plumber to come out and for them to say that they don’t cover it.
I called the plumber for the similar problem that I had before that I already paid the $75. It was within two months when I did the claim for that problem, but the rep from American Home Shield said it was more than two months ago. But we figured out it wasn’t more than two months ago, and it was within the two months. Then she said it was not within two months, but it was within 30 days. But first she said it was two months, and now she was saying it was 30 days. I told her they need to stand by their word on the original two months, and then she checked with somebody. She said she was checking with her supervisor and they said, “No. You’re gonna have to pay another $75.”
I probably will not renew my American Home Shield for that reason. The home insurance plan doesn’t work the way I think it’s beneficial to the consumer. It works when it’s beneficial to the company. There is no flexibility in their system. The coverage is extremely limited and they’re not flexible with making exceptions. They also need to reevaluate some of their vendors. Before I started working with Mister Freeze, there was another heating and air conditioning company that was their first choice. Mister Freeze was the second person they sent me to. The first company no-showed three times. They were rescheduled three times, and they gave me a four-hour time frame. I called both the company itself and American Home Shield. American Home Shield switched the contractor to Mister Freeze who was very reliable and did excellent work.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

We’ve had American Home Shield since August of ’18 and we didn’t use it on the first year. This is our second year and the rates were comparable to everybody else and had a little bit more coverage for what we were paying. I had a plumbing issue and I went online and placed the claim. I paid the deductible and after I contacted the contractor, they came out the next morning. My hot water heater safety valve was leaking and it flooded my backyard. We kept having a lot of water in the backyard since it was draining out. The guy recognized the problem and he replaced the hot water heater valve. It took about 15 minutes. With Home Shield, I like to talk to somebody on the phone when filing claims so I can explain what's going on in more detail. A couple of times, I told them I had a leak in my vanity. The toilet and the shower would work but then after a while, the vanity would fill up with water. Their contractor, ASAP, took a look at and said it was a bigger job. They also said they didn't know whether AHS was gonna cover it. They were supposed to call me back to see if they could go ahead with the repair and see if they could be covered. However, ASAP never came back nor told me how much the repair was gonna charge for.
Another time my clothing dryer was not working and the company sent by AHS said nothing was wrong with the dryer. They said the issue was with our breaker. But then, when I had people working here for an outside stairway, the tech then said to let him take a look at the dryer and the problem was an electrical thing in there. That tech got the part needed for the shortage or break and fixed it for me. I called AHS saying that I shouldn't be charged for the dryer claim as somebody else came, got the part and fixed it for me. The reps told me that the contractor they sent never charged me which was odd. Still, everybody sent by Home Shield has done me good.
Most recently, I had a shower leak. The showerhead would turn off at a certain point instead of all the way. When we turn it all the way off, water would stop at a certain point, so we had to back the knob up a little bit. Infinity Plumbing, AHS' contractor came to fix it. But then, it started leaking again. We waited a week to solve it ourselves without having to call again. We nonetheless called again and Infinity came the following day. They did a good job. We told Infinity about the vanity issue as I had called American Home Shield and told them that maybe during the process of servicing the shower leak claim, Infinity could take a look at it. When they came to fix the shower, they came and they just told us that maybe we could call the plumbing company and maybe the plumbing company could take a look at it and see what they could do.

I filed a request to American Home Shield to service the ice and water dispenser of my refrigerator. The switch was broken, so it stayed on all the time. We had to prop it to keep it from flowing. Within 24 hours, they let me know that the contractor would be coming by, and they told me who it was. And then, Suncoast called and said that they would be there on a day and asked if I would be available. It even gave me a little map thing that told me when he was coming and where he was coming from. So, it was really cool.
My experience with Suncoast was great. The tech called before he got here and I gave him an overview of what was going on. And when he got here, he looked at it and said, "I can tell you immediately what it is. I'm gonna just take a quick look at it, but I'm gonna have to order a part." He ordered the part and he came back almost two weeks after. It was a while, but it wasn't really a pressing issue. We had been dealing with it for a month or two before I actually got around to putting in the claim. So, the time that I had to wait for the part wasn't really that bad.
So far, everything is doing wonderfully. I've been with AHS since we've been in the house, almost 20 years. In that whole time, my experience has been good. I may have had five or six issues and it has never been a problem. I understand that prices have to go up so that's not really a big deal. Every time I put in an order, somebody comes out and either they repair it right there on the spot, or they have to order a part. But everything that I've called for service on, they've taken care of, and I don't worry about any of the appliances or anything in my house as far as that's concerned.

I recently purchased a home that included a one year home warranty covered by American Home Shield (AHS). Throughout the year I had made four service requests for various issues and had poor experiences with each request. One of the things I learned is that AHS has service agreements with contractors that vary in levels of experience. In one scenario, I had a service technician come to my home and provide zero communication to me while I had asked questions regarding the problem. They then turned around and called AHS to indicate that they would be unable to correct the issue and that I would have to pay out of pocket at the time of coming to my home versus filing a claim to see if it would be covered.
The technician was not knowledgeable of the issue and in fact I was able to resolve the issue myself with little to no experience. The claim process for American Home Shield is terrible. Not just in one scenario but in multiple cases. They say they will call you when there is updates on the claim status but instead you have to constantly badger them for an answer. Poor communication, untrusted service technicians, slow claims and response time led me to not renew the home protection plan and go with someone else. I was highly disappointed in my experience with American Home Shield and will not be recommending them to family, friends and colleagues.

April 2019 our five year old Kenmore electric stove/oven began erratic behavior. It would cook slow the front large burner and fast on the rear large burner. A service request was made and a local contractor dispatched. The contractor came out, diagnosed what he believed the issue was (burner) and ordered parts. A week later the part arrived and was installed. It seemed okay until a few days later. The erratic temperature was back. I placed a two service calls, the other for our fridge which was replaced (I ended up being out of money on that due to them using J.B. Hunt as a delivery service. They got stuck in my yard, damaged my water line to the fridge and put a ding in my new one). Took months to get some of my money back but I digress.
The other call was concerning the stove. I paid and was given a date in May, close to my fridge delivery. Cool, I take off and wait for the tech. These mental giants stood me up. No call, no show but got my money and monthly fee mind you. I call AHS and go round and around for two weeks with them. I was given the usual script, oh ahs apologizes and will give you a complimentary service call. Liar, you mean honor the second one I've paid for in less than a month.
Now we get to June and another request is in and a new company comes out. The guy was professional, and this time says, "It's your switch controller." Alright he orders the part, a week later he's back. The part is installed and seems fine. Nope a day later the burner on 4 is cooking red hot as if on the highest temperature level. I call AHS again and inform them of the situation and this time they will send Sears. Alright, the subject matter expert is coming. The guy arrives promptly and says, "It's your.....burners." After ordering two, he shows up and installs them now around July. The rear large burner was okay but the front large wasn't. He says, "I'll order another and ship it directly to you." Okay, we made some progress I can deal with that. About three days later the burner is on my porch. I installed it and nope that's not it either.
I call back again and now we're into the fall. The same Sears tech comes out and says, "It's your.....burners, I'll order all of them." Huh, I have two brand new one, how bout the control panel? "Nope it's your.....burners sir, but if this doesn't work I'll replace the switches." It didn't work with the four new burners. The Sears tech took photos showing no wires damaged and no negligence on our part using the stove. December 2019 I call AHS again for the same issue. The same Sears tech shows up. He diagnosed all four switches bad. I distinctly recall him saying "if this doesn't work, I plan to tell them you have a gremlin in the stove." It didn't work and I put another call in. I was granted a service call. They said Sears verified they would send some 12.31.19. I asked, "Are you sure?" AHS representative swore that the appointment would occur. I received a confirmation email at 4 am new year's eve a tech would arrive.
8 am my cell lights up with a text notification of cancellation. The second freaking time they burned me and I took off to wait. I call and get a guy finally in Malaysia who was a customer representative floor manager. He seemed nice enough but I wanted someone in the states to speak with. He understood and I explained it appears ahs was passing me around. I didn't ask for a new stove, a reasonable fix was all. The guy actually gave me his email address and stated he'd contact his manager in the states. This was 1.2.2020 and on the same day I get a text from Sears saying they were coming by......the hell you are.
I didn't make a new appointment. I can't afford to take off at my leisure. The ahs manager stated he would be in touch in a few days. I gave three and had to contact him. He replied, no word yet but he was going on vacation next week but would remedy the issue before that. Of course I turned blue waiting although my skin is a nice mahogany brown. Now 1.12.2020 here I am writing a seven page letter about the disservice I've received. Ahs couldn't care any less though. I figure with the lost days off=time+money. Also the time waiting and speaking on the phone I could have bought a new stove. Not to mention consistently paying my monthly and service fees. I can truly say this is one experience I never want to repeat. It's true. Experience is the best teacher.

My brother is with AHS and he always had good luck with them. We also needed something to kinda cover our appliances and things and we signed up with them. I like them and I also like Midwest Best Appliances, the contractor that they recently sent out. They checked the refrigerator out and talked to us about it. They did what they could do, but the tech said to let them know if it doesn’t work. And we did. We then got a new refrigerator and we did a cash out with AHS. We went out and got one at Lowe’s.

The washing machine is finally fixed, but it took six weeks to get the part. That’s a long time to be without a washing machine. But the tech was good and my husband liked him. We’d never had a claim at American Home Shield before, and after all the money we put in, I'm a little upset with the service fee. After all that time and money, they should take that into consideration. So, we’re looking around.

My furnace would heat up and then shut off on the emergency shutoff. A guy from Four Seasons Heating & Cooling came and checked it and he thought it was possibly a minor thing of resetting a switch or something and tried that, but it didn’t work. Then, upon further investigation, he found that the manifold was cracked. It took about 2 or 3 weeks to get the new part, which was the only issue. But the guy was very professional, did a great job, and I’m really happy with the service. Except for getting the part that took a while and that’s out of their control, I’m fine with the whole process. In fact, I’ve recommended American Home Shield to other people.

American Home Shield should keep this contractor. They were very good. I've had American Home Shield since I bought the house 10 years ago, and I've had good service with them. I can’t understand why more people don’t have AHS' service. Recently, the furnace had gone off and we filed a claim on the phone to get it fixed. The AHS reps we talked to were terrific and they assigned NW Sundance Services to come out. The contractor had me scheduled for a week, which was kinda bad because it was cold. But they put me on a cancellation list and they got out fairly quickly. The tech who came out was a super guy, too. He had to figure out what was wrong then he had to go get a particular part. The service took about two and a half hours to complete and now, everything's fine.

American Home Shield's claims process was very easy. We field a claim online and they got right back to me. And ever since Mr. Freeze HVAC came out, I have no issues with the heat staying on. Whatever he did, he fixed the issue with it and he was prompt. I've had American Home Shield before, and then I dropped it, and then I brought it back on. So, I've been with them for a total of four or five years. It's a little more convenient for me to make a payment, and when need be, I just pay $100 to the repairman and then let him take care of the matter along with AHS. I feel like I'm saving money that way. And any time I've had to call them, and whoever came out, they knew what they were doing.

I’ve had AHS for about five years and have been very pleased with it. I’ve had electrical work and lots of plumbing done and so far, there has been only one time when the work wasn’t good. TNT came out for my garbage disposal and my water heater was making weird noises. They were very good and efficient. I felt very comfortable with the plumbers. They know their jobs. When the first guy came out, he said it was the motor for the water heater and that needed to order it. They ordered it, and then they scheduled the time. However, the motor didn’t come in. They were very good about calling me. We rescheduled for the next day because the motor should have been in by 4:00.
Then we had a rainstorm and for whatever reason, the repair was delayed and they called to reschedule again. Then, Friday a week ago, nobody showed up. When I called that Saturday and said that nobody showed up, the woman said that they were closed and would call me on Monday. They came last Wednesday and fixed the motor. Then I went to my garage on Friday, my hot water was leaking. I called and put in another request for AHS. The guy came out yesterday and now, I need a whole new water heater.

Back in Centerville, we had AHS and they really upset me big time. My sump pump went out and they didn't wanna fix it because it was over five years old. I didn't know all the rules and they wouldn't reimburse me the $1,200. Still, that was all in the past and we went with them again 'cause they are easier than the previous company that I had. With AHS, I get my own contractor, pay that contractor off and then they would send me a check for what the cost should be. More recently, I submitted a claim to AHS and the tech who came from Sears was professional. He diagnosed my issue determined the problems we had and ordered the parts. The came in and I called. Sears came back and fixed my issue and I haven't had any trouble since.

We’ve had contractors come out to look at the electric. We just had the gas pipes replaced the other day because we had a major gas leak. When we have a contractor come out to the house, they do a great job initially of looking over everything and diagnosing the problem and seeing what’s wrong. At this point, with the electric, the water plumbing, and the gas, AHS's contractors basically put a band-aid over top like an amputation.
When we first had the electric guys come out, they said, “This is wrong,” and literally told us that the house needed to be rewired and then proceeded to replace an external breaker on the house. And a box that needed replacement also, they couldn’t replace it. When the water guy came in, he did the same thing and said, “This is wrong.” And we have a report that says, “Basement needs replumbing,” and all he was able to do was replaced one tiny pipe that had burst that went out to an external spigot. He was not able to schedule or fix anything else that was wrong with the plumbing, which is multiple. So, whenever we’ve had somebody come out, they put that little band-aid on there and it gets things running again for a little while, but there’s still these major problems. We have the electrician coming back out today for another visit because after they “fixed the problem,” we lost all power to the house four days later.
We’ve been in this house since we closed on December 11th, and our sewer drainage system has gone out, our electric has gone out and needs replaced, our water needs replaced, and our gas just got replaced. American Home Shield replaced one breaker when the electric went out. Columbia Gas luckily found it in their hearts to replace both our internal and external pipes free of charge, just because we explained to them that the chances of that system getting redone was very slim after the ordeals that we’ve gone through with the other problems. And the plumbing was replaced too. It was a four-foot section that went from a main line out the wall to a spigot. It didn’t fix the other spigot that is also broken. And per his report, the issues that we’re having with water pressure and water discoloration are due to the other issues in the basement plumbing. But he was not able to address it.
The information that is communicated to Realtors and to lenders, and then the information that is put in the information packet that is given to homebuyers needs to be updated and be more specific. Because what we were led to believe was that AHS covered everything from the roof down for the first year, that if something wasn’t working, it would be fixed and/or replaced with a system or something that did as long as it wasn’t an act of God. It even says normal wear and tear and we haven’t seen that. We’ve expressed this to all people that we’ve talked to including regional managers and we’re getting the same information from them, “That’s not what we cover.”

My hot water heater wasn’t giving out any hot water. I called American Shield and then, someone contacted me and told me Medallion would be the contractor. They were on time and the service was great but since then, I’ve been getting hot water throughout my house except the master bathroom. The water is lukewarm and I have not ran anything. I had this hot water heater put in in 2017 and it was supposed to have been brand new but it went out a year later. A guy who was not from AHS came out and he said that it was the switch in my box. It didn’t last long, so the guy who came out from AHS went to the box and the switch was not plugged in all the way. Hot water heaters don’t go out in two years but I’m having problems. I think it’s due to the switch because the hot water heater is not handling it and it is blowing that switch.
I’ve been with AHS since 2017. Mostly, it was them that you saw the commercial on. I’ve only had three contractors and one was sort of standoffish and wasn’t friendly. He was the one who came to fix the leak in my air conditioner that was leaking into my bedroom. But the other two who came out for the hot water heater were very good. I’m pleased with American Home Shield. I have no problems with them and I like the price.

But I said I am paying for my insurance, and still he didn’t do anything because he asked me to pay. I called American Home Shield, and they said whatever the technician said they have to go with it. In short, they didn’t do anything and I paid the $75 service fee.
And the lady whom I spoke with American Home Shield to was not good too. I said, “How can I get this fixed? I paid the service fee.” And he said, “If you wanna get that back, call the arbitration company.” She gave me the number. I am planning to stop this because this is ridiculous. So far, everyone that I have had contact with at AHS have been wonderful. They send a contractor out the next day. A lot of times they come out that same day I call. The company usually calls me after I’ve called American Home Shield, and then tells me if they could make it that day or the following day. I love American Home Shield. One time, I was sitting at a table with a bunch of ladies and one lady was badmouthing AHS. I said, “I had to put two claims in within two days. There was no water or ice in the refrigerator. It was under "covered" in our American Home Shield policy and I had went ahead bought replacement filters and put them in. They didn't work. Maybe there was a clog in the line. So, I went online to see what the possible problems would be. Maybe there was a filter or a little sensor on the back was a possibility. I did some research before I called them. And as it turned out, the piece that I bought to put in wasn't in all the way. In other words, I put it in tight, but I didn't realize it had to be forced in and then turned after that. Well beneath that was plastic fitting, you don't wanna screw something in too tight. I was afraid to break it. And I didn't know what the spot was that it had to go in, looking at the instructions on the blueprint of the filter, it just said "screw in."
When I put the old filter in, water was barely trickling out. So, that must have been the original filter from the refrigerator, when it was bought from the previous owner, so then of course, it's time to take a look at it. If the filter is clogged, it's not going to process the water. In this case, since it wasn't processing the water, maybe it's time to buy a new filter. I think that was the attitude that I too.
And then when I ordered the new filter, of course, it comes with directions, "Open the door, off the lid, unscrew it, put the new one in." Then of course, putting the new one in, it went in and stopped, but I didn't force it to lock in place. And since it wasn't locked in place, and that was the necessary piece to allow water and ice to go. Since it wasn't locked in place, it wasn't processing either ice or water through the door. The guy from Antech Appliances came out. I've had him before on other calls, the guy came out and he immediately recognized that. He unscrewed it. He looked at it. He screwed it back in. He secured it in place and cinch it tight. He showed me where the water was processing and the ice would process through the door.
After he did it right, he undid it and then showed me what the right way to do it, was the case I ever had to do it again, the next time the filter was gonna be changed. Very proactive. The second time I've had that guy come out. I have other property that I met him at a couple of years and very, very sharp. And it's probably the third time I've dialed AHS in the last couple of years for different properties 'cause I have multiple homes.
I am on my 29th month total with American Home Shield in different properties. For homes that I sold, I have included an AHS warranty as well, because as I user, I was happy with them. And then, of course, as a seller, I wanna provide the best available coverage. I was very happy with what they provided for the value. I don't look at the cost, but I look at the value. This particular property, this is the fourth service call that I made with AHS total. And in each case, they were there within the next day or at my convenience, and each, the problem was quickly solved with the best possible remedy.
In one case, it was credit towards a replacement, which was totally fine because of the age of the appliance. And the other cases, they were great, professional and quick. So, I would put them on a highly-recommend list of who I work with, their professionalism, their level of contractors, and the responsibility of the contractors that they provided, a professional prompt service. And one particular job, it was much more drastic, but they came out twice. And I thought it was gonna be impossible, they made it work. They dug into walls for example.
Every time I call them for service, they follow-up, I follow-up immediately. Their level of professionalism has been well worth the money, and then the situation, just the level of service that you expect. If there's another company out there they can use AHS as role model. When I first started calling, it took forever to get through some of the system because of the long wait. But after that, once I got into the system 'cause I went in a very reasonable period of time. Maybe I had the wrong number. In other words, when I was dialing. The first time I started calling, I started dialing the number and I was like, "The system takes forever." But once I found out what number to call, maybe I was calling a generic number and not the specific number for the service. That was the only growing pain. But once I did that and I can call right now at 9:30, have somebody on the phone within a reasonable period of time, took the job order and quickly dealt with. I'm very happy with them.

I've been with American Home Shield for a couple of years, at least. There are some good things and there are some bad. But at the end of the day, it's good to do it. You could put your money into your account and just don't touch it and it'd do the same thing, for the most part. I submit claims on the phone. It's convenient. For a few who don't have time to do the online thing, you can do it that way.
I had a claim and when the other guy came out, it was a few other things that he had mentioned. But Brookfield Heating & Coolin was great to me. The technician was professional and he had made a few comments. It took them a long time to clear the check. It took them a long time to cash that check. American Home Shield should also be okay with sending contractors that go out to Brookfield, the other place they are sending, the ones that we'd be comfortable coming in this area. They get a whole different type of people and I only know that from just speaking to other people that have AHS.

We have been using American Home Shield warranty on various houses for about 8 years already and we are on our fourth house with them. I love that it’s paid for itself every year and I don’t have to worry. I always get the big warranty, so that I don’t have to worry. Then I call them and I pay my 75 bucks to get a professional out to the house who come within a reasonable amount of time. I make sure I’m at home to let the person in when they get there and then I tell them what’s going on. I am also a real estate agent, which is how I came to discover American Home Shield. I recommend them to all of my customers because I’m a user of the product. If I didn’t use the product myself, I wouldn’t be doing it.
I’ve bought older houses and after having them on the first house for myself, I realized that it really gives peace of mind. For example, when one has a hot water tank go bad on an older house, it’s gonna need some plumbing retrofit because they already don’t make them the way that they did 40 years ago. Since I have a bigger plan, American Home Shield covers some of that. The water heater would probably cost me about $1,300 for it to be done and it needed a retrofit because it didn’t have an expansion tank. Also, the electric box was literally right underneath where the TPN valve drained. All of that was fixed and the whole thing ended up with a call-out fee of 465 bucks. So, I got a substantial discount.
Our last house in Florida had a pool pump. It’s an older house and I had other plumbing issues that have gone on. I have called American Home Shield and they’ve always been prompt. I usually get a response back within 24 hours or 48 hours if it’s over the weekend or a holiday. Then, somebody is out within the week to take care of things.
In our current house, we’ve been in it since June, and I’ve had 4 or 5 service calls in the last 6 months for different things that have crapped up. When a contractor first came out for the water heater, they thought it just tripped its breaker ‘cause it was not working. So they came out and the guy pushed the button, and then it started working all of a sudden. Literally, it was like, “Okay. Great.” They hung around to make sure that it’s sealed and that we actually had some hot water before they left. They were 5 minutes down the road when the TPN valve blew and caused it to short again. I called them and they came right back and took care of it. It was a great service.
DrainGo was also great. They came out relatively quickly. It was only about 2 or 3 days before they were out to actually see what the problem was, and then they had to order a part. So it was a little bit longer than that before they actually did it. But they came, cleaned up after themselves, were courteous, and did their best not to mess up my house. I would use them again. Even if I had to call for non-warranty related issues, I would definitely keep them in my arsenal for plumbing issues.

Exit Garage Doors was terrific. Unfortunately, we're not having a good experience with Accord Appliance on our refrigerator that has been broken. They're scheduled to come out today. This would be the fourth visit and we've been without a fridge in our house. AHS asked if we wanted another contractor to come out. They said it would be another $75. I told them I'd like to finish with the people who started it rather than start all over again.
Today, we have another appointment. They finally got in the part about a week and a half ago and that's how long it's taken. This is the earliest date they could come out. I think we finally got the right technician. I'm not sure the first guy really knew what he was doing, although he is their high-end technician. We have a Sub-Zero refrigerator and he works on all the high-end refrigerators. He did replace R12 Freon and did one other thing but he was puzzled by the continuing problem we had. Then he was a no-show 'cause he got sick. He didn't call the company so they didn't know he wasn't coming. They got somebody else to come out and within five minutes, he analyzed what the problem was and that's what he's gonna fix today when he gets here.
I've been with AHS for 8 years and I'm very dissatisfied with them. I used to have them years ago and they were very good. We have another home in Arizona and we have OneGuard. We've had them for 15 years and they're terrific. We've never had an issue with them. They don't operate in California though. Otherwise, I'd have them and not American Home Shield. I have not been happy with American Home Shield especially the experience with our air conditioning unit. They were awful. The air conditioning unit was replaced 3 years earlier by somebody I know in the business who mainly does commercial properties. Since he's a friend and a neighbor, he put ours in and it was a top-quality unit. They came out and evaluated that I needed a brand new unit. They totaled our air conditioning unit out, which was still under warranty by the company, not by American Home Shield.
Now, the contractor that American Home Shield sent out did say that it was most likely the coil that needed replacement. It's very expensive but it couldn't be more expensive than an entire air conditioning unit. We got the part free from the person who installed our air conditioning unit. He charged us to replace it. It was a $700 charge and we got $2,100 from American Home Shield as the cash-in-lieu of the repair. Once that happened, they will no longer stand behind the air conditioning unit, which I really don't care. I don't want them ever looking at my air conditioning unit again even if I need it. I'll have somebody else repair it.
Allen,
I apologize that your experience with us was not satisfactory. Thank you for speaking with me to confirm a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

Paul’s Appliance Services came out to fix the dishwasher. We called them on the 26th and the contractors came on the 3rd. The communication has been horrible. He came out on the 3rd and said that it needed a part. He ordered the part and the part got there two days later. They were scheduled to come out the next Tuesday and I got a call about five minutes before they were supposed to be there and they said his car had broken down and he wasn’t gonna make it but that they would let me know when he could come back out. I said, “Hopefully, tomorrow." Because I spent a whole day waiting. But they don’t come out that day to my area. So, they didn’t make an exception.
And then they were supposed to come out Friday and I was there waiting, but I was out in the garage. So he called and I missed the call, but I called him back about 10 minutes later and they already had canceled my call. Even though I waited all day Tuesday for him and they didn’t come, they wouldn’t wait 10 minutes for me to call back to confirm. So, now they’re not coming. He canceled Friday and now they said they’re coming Wednesday, which originally they told me they don’t come out here on Wednesday. It’s just been really frustrating. It hasn’t been very accommodating. I’m going from December 26th ‘till the 15th without a dishwasher. I’ve had some frustrations, but I’ve also had some good experiences with AHS.

The people that owned the home bought into American Home Shield to protect their appliances. It was a nice gift. I submit claims over the phone, which is fine, but I can do it online from now on. I already had two claims. On one claim, Efficiency Experts came in, did the work and left. I liked them. The other contractor was fine, too. He came and checked the unit and the heater, and then he showed me how to work it. It was strange because I got into the house and it didn't come with a whole lot of instructions, and I was afraid to pull off the face of the thermostat. And when I did, it was easy.

The guy who came for my garage door opener was awesome. He came out quickly and identified the problem immediately. Moreover, he had what he needed on his truck and fixed it within half an hour. It was perfect. The other contractor who came for my washing machine was not so good. We were without a washing machine for almost two months, which was not easy to do with little kids. We called the claim in and the contractor finally came out about 10 days later. When he came, he fixed something but said he wasn't sure if it was gonna work. We tried to run a load and it didn’t work. It was leaking and whatever the problem was.
We called AHS back and said it wasn't working and that the guy even said he didn’t think it was going to. They told us they were just gonna replace the whole thing, which was good. We had to order a replacement machine which took about 10 days to get here. When the contractor brought it, they said they won’t hook it up because there was some corrosion on our hookup. We knew it was okay, but our point was, why didn’t the guy look at that when he was here the first time? They dropped it off but just left it in our garage and they didn’t take the old one. We had to get a plumber to replace the little valve so that it didn’t have any corrosion on it. He also hooked the machine up for us. There was so much going on that it was like a fulltime job keeping track of that. Why do I have to do all that work?

We needed to get the heat pump fixed. We submitted a claim online with AHS and their website was pretty easy to use. They assigned United Air Temp to us and a tech came out in four days. He was pleasant and professional. The first time he came out he thought he fixed it, but several days later, we noticed that the same problem was still going on, so we just called again. Then he came out in two days and he was able to fix it. And it seems to be working well so far. This visit was also a lot better than last time because the contractor kept me posted. When the tech was gonna come at a certain time, they called, said they had a change in schedule, and that I should let them know if I would like for them to come early. And that worked better for me.

The water in the master bathroom would not shut off. It would only turn so far and it wouldn't even be a drip, but it would constantly run. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and told the rep that the problem might be a valve. The guy from Accent Plumbing came out to service my request and did a good job. He looked and he told me it was a shower valve. He took it out and put a new one in. I also told AHS rep that my disposal was acting up, and if that could be put on the same claim or to be submitted separately. They told me it can be on the same one because the tech should be able to do both things, and sure enough he was. He looked at it and said that it seems to be working fine. I told him to turn the water on. He did and it started to drip from the bottom. Then he said, "Oh, yeah. It is busted." And then he put a new one on.
Since the repair, it has been great. I was just a little disappointed with the clean-up part. They removed the stuff from under the counter or sink or whatever they're working. When they finished, you would think that they would just wipe the water that they were working with and put the stuff back under there, but they didn't. I had to clean under there anyway and I guess, that was what they were thinking. Overall, we're happy with the service and the experience was good.

AHS also email and they said, “They could give you their number also.” And I just said, “I’d wait for the tech.” The last contractor who came took a day to get in contact with me. But the other one emailed me back about 35 to 40 minutes later. The first time my stove was done, I wasn’t pleased with the service. I’d say about two months later, I had the same problem. I purchased my stove in 2014. and the big element on it, which is a smooth surface, burns out all the time. And I told them, “Don’t send the same person out there,” that they sent before.
The last time the guy from Angel's Appliance Repair came out, he had to replace my panel. I am calling them back now to clean my oven as it won't work. You can turn it on and it should come on at the countdown, but at countdown, it doesn’t heat up. It doesn’t do nothing. Before, I could mash self-cleaning, and it’ll lock up automatically. I'm tired of calling, giving my money each time, when I could have went and got another stove. I'm frustrated with this. I was satisfied with American Home Shield all the while until my stove. AHS's website does not warn you that if you submit a claim via the web, then you cannot go back to try to expedite the claim. I had a claim due to a pipe leak into the slab, but because I submitted it online, I locked myself in and made it so that I could not expedite the call. I was informed about it by AHS but that needs to be much clearer on their website.
The Pro-Lock rekey was perfect and went very smoothly. They were very communicative and did the job well. But for my next claim, which was for a leak, AHS's service professional never called me. We spent the Christmas holidays with no water. It took seven days before they finally started to respond, but by then I had already hired a plumber to fix it. AHS needs to do a better job screening their service professionals. If you were to look at the service professional on Google reviews or Yelp, they have 1-star ratings from multiple folks because they never called anybody back and do shoddy work.
Good Morning David to advise I am closing this case due to no response

I have had AHS for a few years now. I have had three issues for which I could file a claim, but only chose to file a claim on two of them. The first issue I had was the motor died for our garage door opener. I had the option of taking whatever replacement unit they deemed "comparable" (I'll come back to this in a moment). The unit that died was clearly ancient, so I decided my money was better spent on buying and installing what I wanted, so I opted not to file a claim. It took me 12 hours to install, but I have all the features I want, and it's whisper quiet. The second claim I filed was for electrical service. The problem was resolved quickly. But my third issue was our gas furnace, and here is where American Home Shield really shows its true colors.
At random, I signed up for one of those $20 furnace inspection deals, and the guy came out and said the 30 year old furnace in our home had a cracked heat exchange. That particular company did not work with AHS, so I called AHS, and scheduled an a technician. He came out and determined the same thing. He should me where trace amounts of carbon monoxide was building up in our vents (not nearly enough to be dangerous or set off the three carbon monoxide detectors in our home). But, it's a concern nonetheless.
AHS will not tell you the brand or model that they think is an equivalent replacement. They wouldn't tell me with the garage door motor, and they would not tell me with the furnace. The York we have was rated at 90% efficiency and 160,000 BTUs. Even though I asked several times and even asked to speak to a supervisor, they would not tell me what unit they would approve and would not let me speak to a supervisor. They offered me the option of taking a $900 dollar payout and arranging with a different contractor. They did say that they would let the assigned HVAC tech know what unit they approved, so I hounded the tech until they at least told me the specs of the furnace.
AHS approved a Payne 80% efficiency, 150,000 BTU furnace. I'd never heard of Payne, so I called the company and flushed out the model based on the specs. Payne, by their own description is the lowest tier brand of Carrier. Their 2nd highest tier is Bryant. So it's not like they even tried to be on par with what I had. So I did a bit more research and learned the difference between an 80% and 90% efficiency furnace. It's not just the added cost of the gas to run the thing multiplied over years...anything above 90% efficiency can be vented through a PVC pipe, anything lower than 90% efficiency has to be vented through a fireplace flue because the heat generated is too high for PVC. So it's not just that they want to buy the cheapest unit possible, but in their choosing, it's going to cost me a lot more money both in the usage of fuel and to accommodate the venting requirement. I have pushed back big time. I am still waiting on an answer.
The second shady thing they do is the assign whatever repair company they choose, and once chosen for you, you can't change to a different vendor, and you can't get a competitive bid on the work. I was told it would cost an additional $700 out of pocket to retrofit the new subpar furnace. This included electrical, ductwork and routing to the drain (never mind that ductwork and electrical is covered in my policy). We are literally talking about a $3 pvc pipe going to the drain. I asked the HVAC company to itemize this whopping $700 charge. I am still waiting to hear back from them at all, about anything. I mean really!
If they were going to replace the furnace with the exact same model, presumably I would not pay for any of these "extra" install charges. I don't have the option of getting a competitive bid for the "extras", and they won't allow me to get the furnace that they owe me and have someone I choose install it. So it seems like a big racket. I am waiting to hear back from AHS since I am not going to accept a furnace that was less efficiency than I currently have. It would cost me too much just to have the flue put in to accommodate the exhaust requirements. At this point, I am willing to sue in small claims court or do arbitration, but they are not going to scam me this way.
Michael,

The water heater was going out, but it wasn’t completely out. So I had to call AHS on a Thursday, and the contractor came on a Monday. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and explained what he needed to do. I was surprised they didn’t replace the whole thing, just the inside of it. The water heater’s probably 10 years old. But so far the heater is still working.

C & J Services called me back and made an appointment between 7:00 and 11:00 AM. The guy woke me up at 6:00 with a phone call to tell me, “I’m on my way.” And then, he came out and he said he fixed the leak. A couple hours later, I went out and looked, and it was dripping water again. In order to get them to come back, I had to put in a claim back into American Home Shield. They wouldn’t come out without American Home Shield saying okay. He came out the second time and fixed the leak, and a little while later, I went out and looked and it was still dripping. I had to end up fixing it myself.
Overall American Home Shield is okay, but they're not the best. There are a lot of things they don’t wanna fix. I had a disposal go out, and one of the arms inside broke loose so it was making a racket. The guy came out and said they would repair the noise. He said, “But it’s gotta be leaking, so I’m putting it down as leaking.” He replaced it, but according to them, they wouldn’t have replaced it. Once the renewal is over, I’m gonna cancel them. They need to repair stuff that goes out. It doesn’t matter whether it’s making a loud noise or it’s leaking. If it broke, they need to repair it, period. They make excuses not to fix stuff.
Joseph,
I apologize that your experience with us was not satisfactory. Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

In 2006, I bought American Home Shield for my personal home. I started having such a wonderful experience with them that I completely changed my properties to them. I'm very pleased with them. This year, I had a claim with the furnace. They returned the phone call as they promised. They sent a very professional company and I don’t have any complaints. Another thing that I respect a lot about them is they don’t flood me with marketing materials. They use my email just for the right purposes, so they're one-of-a-kind in that aspect. If they continue to do so, I would be very appreciative.

My claim with AHS went well. I had a plumber come out and they said the issue was with the city having a collapsed pipe underneath. I called my city and they said that the would not do anything until a plumber comes with a camera to prove that it's their issue. I filed a claim to AHS and their tech from DFW Pluming and drains came with a camera and confirmed that the issue is with the city. The city saw the notes from the plumber and fixed my issue. With AHS, whenever I have a problem, somebody is out within 48 hours fixing my issue. This warranty has helped us save money.

American Plumbing Service was right on time, very expeditious, sufficient and speedy. They did everything that was required, and so it all worked out fine. We still have to address the plumbing issue with our basement, though. They would really have to knock the floor out and run some new piping. Every time we use the garbage disposal up here, our bin does not let anything go down at all. Before, if I let it go down, I would have to get down in that basement and scrub up at least once a month. That smells like a sewer from the food and stuff overflowing through the floor. We had plumbers out here in the past concerning it.

Tony’s Electrical & Plumbing did their job. They came and checked the problem, and then they told me what they were gonna have to do. There was a leak in the kitchen sink and in the sink in one of the restrooms. They got it all fixed up, and they were very professional. They got here on time. They told me they were gonna get here, and he called to make sure that we were gonna be at home. Everything worked out good. We were happy with it. If I never need AHS again, I sure would like to keep those same plumbers. I’ve had experiences with other plumbers like Rice Plumbing here in Beeville, and they did not do anything but make a mess. We’ve had Home Shield before and I’ve never had problems. And my son, when he had his house, he had Home Shield also but I put it in my name. Everything’s perfect, and I recommend them. After I got my Home Shield, I had gotten a couple of my friends to get American Home Shield too.

With our recent claim, the furnace needed to be cleaned. It was also clogged and as a result, it wasn’t filtering. The guy who came out cleaned it. He explained the nature of the problem, and how we could improve the quality of the airflow in the future. He gave some ideas and made some suggestions too. Overall, we were very happy with his attitude, knowledge, and cooperation.
I like American Home Shield, also, I don't, because if I have to pay $100 for someone to show up and fix something minor, then that is very not satisfactory. I have been looking for some other solutions to see how best I can find something that does not require or minimizing the technician fees on-site. It doesn't make sense. 90% of the time, they don’t change the system. They just fix it. Let's say for the entire microwave, which is hypothetically five years old, if they fix, you pay $100 for the visit but the entire microwave can be changed with $300. I have talked to many people. They complain about the same issue and many of them don’t want to have insurance. They just say that they'll just replace the whole unit and it’s good for five years, then why should they pay $2,500 for insurance. So there are pros and cons. Overall, that initial fee is really not very good at all.
One more thing that I really think AHS needs to do is that they should make sure they qualify technicians before sending them to the houses for repair. Majority of the time, these guys come and fix something very quickly then three months later, the same issue comes up again. You have to pay $100 for the same unit again for the technician that either misdiagnosed or used their very good quality parts. These technicians represent AHS although they don’t work with AHS directly. If the repair is good only for one or two months, that shows that AHS is not doing due diligence to find a good and reliable company to say that this company fixed this. It broke. Now, they're liable to fix it again. AHS needs to enforce the company to come and fix it properly and I don't see that.
I have a refrigerator in the garage. It broke last year three times for the same issue. Then every time the guy comes, I pay $100. I may as well just trash the whole refrigerator and buy a new one for $500. The quality of service in terms of knowledge, and the component they use, and diagnosis are very important because they represent AHS. If it still continues, people will go with another insurance company. This is something AHS may want to keep in mind.

I'm satisfied with American Home Shield's customer service representatives. Also, the contractors are usually out pretty quickly. When I put in a claim last week for my leaking hot water tank, the contractor came out and determined that we gotta remove the water tank. I had to enlarge the doorway so we can get it out. They’re supposed to come back out this week and I’m hoping that they come out on Thursday or Friday. A couple of months ago, when my garage door stopped opening and closing, the contractor came out, did some troubleshooting, found that a part was needed and replaced it. He was done quickly and now, it has been working fine.

My last claim was for the furnace and I submitted it online. I've also submitted claims over the phone in the past, and both ways of submission seemed to be working well. Myers Comfort Specialist reached out to me on the day I put in the claim and we scheduled an appointment from there based on my allotted time. When they came out, they had to do an estimation, and then it required to completely replace the furnace. They had to order the furnace and it was done within that week. They got the furnace replaced for me and they were very prompt. It was at a critical time of the year, ‘cause it was getting very cold, so they did a good job. It was a good experience.

Chuck’s Appliance Services came out to work on my refrigerator, washer and dryer. My refrigerator was freezing everything in the back of it. My dryer was not drying and my washing machine was making all kinds of crazy noises, not spinning the water out and leaking. AHS's website is good, especially the part where I picked my washer and dryer. They have a recommendation and you can change it. And if you want to, you can upgrade and pay the difference. There was a whole lot of choices and I quickly picked out the ones that I liked and thought it was easy.
I like the guy who came out. He seemed really nice and friendly. He got right to work, took care of the issue and took off. My new washer and dryer are fabulous, but I’m still in the testing process with my refrigerator. It’s still freezing a few things in the back and in my vegetable drawer, but we’re adjusting the temperature buttons to find the right place. The tech even gave us some tips on how to store the food in the fridge to make sure that there was plenty of airflow. I’ve been with them for quite a while and I’ve only had a little difficulty one time. Things changed in the middle of the repair and the issue was more of a major situation than we thought, which had to do with not having water for days. It was inconvenient for me. But I absolutely love AHS.

He was getting ready to tear the whole thing off and replace everything. Luckily, he didn't do that. American Home Shield sent another contractor out just for the second opinion within a day or two. The guy came in and within 15 seconds, I had water again. Apparently, something was just worn off. But the contractors were both nice. My sister has used American Home Shield too. Now, they call me and give the information over the phone, which is sometimes cumbersome ‘cause I’m busy and working my own job. I like the email system thing, but the repair is being made and they’re doing it within a reasonable amount of time, so no complaints. Ace’s Garage came out and did a good job. Four years ago, the house was completely renovated and we have new electrical and plumbing. So, it's in good shape but still, it's 106 years old. Also, we're retired and we can't afford any major repairs, so we thought American Home Shield would soften the effect of any problems we might have. This policy is about a month. We had it previously and that expired but we renewed. When we had problems with both garage doors, I mentioned that when I called AHS but somehow that didn't get translated to the guy who came out. It was a little bit of a surprise to him but he was very courteous and happy to deal with both problems. One of them turned out to be a loose wire up in the rafters and the other one was a programming problem. Everything was fixed and it was not an easy solution, but the guy found it and I was 100% satisfied.

Because it was my first time, I submitted the claim over the phone. I tried to do it online and it was too complicated. I’m very tech savvy. It’s just that Home Shield didn’t have the right points for that thing. It was too broad. And because it was my first time, I didn’t really know what I was doing. But following what was on the internet to try to do it, it wasn’t answering my question on what needed to be done.
It was 30 degrees in my house and I had just had surgery. The guy said he was coming the next day, he but never showed up. The second day, the K&W tech said, “I’ll be there after 6:00.” And then he didn’t come, so then the third day, I was like, “Look, you told me you were coming the same day. And now, we’re two days past that day.” And he was like, “My mistake — I thought you were somebody else.” I said, “Dude, be professional.” He ended up coming out on the fourth day and he came early in the morning. I had to call American Shield four times before, then they had to call him. He came, fixed it, but as soon as he left, it went right back out. It took him another day and a half to come back.
And then when he came back, he was still trying to troubleshoot. I had a zoning system in my house but the other thermostat was disconnected. He connected it back because it wasn’t like that. I didn’t have that problem last year when it was removed. But he ended up connecting the other thermostat. He was very unsatisfactory and was not being truthful as far as him coming over. And the fact that it was 30 degrees during that time, it was just not acceptable so I eventually got somebody else to come back out.
He replaced something in there and the pilot was staying lit. Then I kept noticing that the heat wouldn’t even come on. It’s set to 75 degrees but it’s 69 degrees in my house. Why is the heat not coming on? And so, I thought it was the thermostat. I kept asking him, and then he was like, “I’ll come over.” And then he just stopped responding.
I called Home Shield back and they tried to reach out to him, but he didn’t respond so they sent somebody else out. When that guy came out, he was like, “Look, your thermostat downstairs was fighting with your thermostat upstairs and that’s why the heat was not coming on when it was supposed to.” And then he realized that somebody connected the thermostat that's downstairs, so he told me just to keep that on off. He did something else in the attic. He said what he did, but he did something else and got the heat working again, and then he told me about the thermostat downstairs. And now, the thermostat is working fine. The issue has been resolved since the second guy came.

I already fixed what was wrong.” And every time I press it now, every once in a while, it sticks. I kinda go hunting around. I wanna get somebody out to recheck that. I also had a guy from another company come out and he fixed my kitchen light switch. He was a very nice man. I've had American Home Shield for years. It pays for itself. If something goes wrong, I can call them up and I have to pay the $75 copay, and they fix what has to be done.

I submit claims with American Home Shield online. It seems to work. But I’ve also called. World Class AC came out when I had an issue with my air conditioner not working. They came out within a couple of days. It was within reasonable amount of time. And the contractor did a great job. Everything’s working since then. But we did call them. We have him coming back tomorrow. He fixed the system and the fan wasn’t blowing well. And it’s been that way. We’ve only moved into the house a few months ago and the air-conditioning was never really working well. He got it going and it’s blowing very well. But now, it seemed to be getting dirt, dust, particles, and stuff coming out of the duct work whenever it starts flowing. So I think the duct work might be falling apart.
I struggle with AHS in the fact that I pay $75 every time a person comes out. And there was one situation where I asked the person, “Is this gonna be covered? I don’t wanna waste $75 if it’s not covered.” “Oh, it’s electrical. It’d be covered.” He couldn’t get my credit card fast now to charge the $75. And when the electrician guy came out, he said, “This isn’t gonna be covered. It’s not gonna be covered.” I said, “I asked the guy and he said, ‘It's electrical. It would be covered.’ If the guy said, ‘No, it wouldn’t be covered,’ I wouldn’t have wasted the $75.” I was a little perturbed about that. I actually called up and complained and they said, “Oh, well, we’ll put the complaint through or whatever.” I never heard anything back about it.
Also, I had a water heater leak. The guy came out and instead of it being free, it was gonna be $500. And that was because he had to add a little more plumbing and had to put something else in. I’m like, “No. I don’t even want you to do it. I’ll do it.” So I sent him on his way. And I paid AHS their $75, and I didn’t have him do it. I’m a reasonably handy person. I can do some things myself. But everyone has their limitations and air-conditioning isn’t one of my thing. So I don’t mind having an air-conditioning guy come and pay him. This is the second time that we had the air-conditioning problem. We bought the house originally in April, but we didn’t really move in until end of September. And when we first moved in in April, the air-conditioning died. I called AHS and they came out. And it was some sort of a broken wire situation there.
The air-conditioning worked poorly all summer though. The house wasn’t super cold. And I just thought it was an older, lousy air-conditioning unit. Finally, the thing stopped working completely. We had a bit of a heat spell in November, and the AC flat-out wasn’t coming on. It would try to turn on, but the inside blower thing wouldn’t work. So then that’s when we called AHS again. They sent a different company this time and he found all kinds of things wrong with it that probably were there when the first guy came, but he didn’t figure it out. And so, I’m much happier with the second guy. He got it running so well that the thing blows nice, cold, and strong.

I've been with American Home Shield for more than six years. Their service is good sometimes, but they are working with a horrible company for fixing the stuff. It was the company that came over for my air conditioner. They sent a man that was totally crazy and racist. He came to my house without permission and he didn't ask me what happened. After checking, he was gone on the roof and he said that there was no problem. But my heater is not working. I told him that it could be the thermostat, but he didn't do anything and he left us with the same problem. And I paid $75. He said if there is a problem, call the warranty company.
I'm a disabled person and I really need to be in a heater place, not cold place. So I called AHS and they said, "You need to pay another $75 for another company to come in and check the heater." I told them that the problem is the same. I don't wanna pay another $75 because I'm disabled, I don't have that much money. And the rep said, "It's okay. We will call the same company to come and check again." I told them that I don't want the same person because he was screaming at me. I had a small puppy that I was holding then, and I hugged her when he came in. But he said that my dog bit him. I looked at him and said that I was holding my dog. How can she bit him? I told them that I don't want to pay money to somebody and then not do anything and scream at me. They said, "Okay, we will contact the same company but we'll not send the same technician, we'll have them send another technician." I said, "Okay, that's good."
10 days after, when the company called me to make the appointment, I told them, "Please do not send the same person that came here last time." They said, "Okay, we are not sending the same person." But the same person came in. It was a cold and rainy afternoon so he has a hoodie on and I cannot recognize the face. I opened the door, he removed the scarf, and it was the same person. Again, without permission, he came in with his dirty shoes and went inside my room. I looked at him and said, "Why did you come my house without permission. And I told your company not to send you." And he was screaming at me again and got close the thermostat. He took off the thermostat from the wall and said screaming, "Okay, I will change this one and please do not bother me and do not call me again."
I told him it was not appropriate to scream at me in my home. And he came towards me and I told him, "Do not come close to me. If you come, you must go out from my house. If you're not going out and you keep screaming at me, I will call 911 because I feel uncomfortable." He went out screaming and said, "Oh, do not bother me. Do not call me." And I told him, "I have a camera inside and outside my house. If you come back and speak again with your loud voice, I'll call 911." Then he left. I was crying and shaking when I called the company. I asked them why they sent the same person when I told them in the morning not to send him. They said, "We don't have anybody else." And that he was the only one available. I said, "Just him? So 10 days I was living in the cold place. You could've told me, 'We don't have anybody available. How about tomorrow?' If something happened to me, what are you guys gonna do?" And they just hung up.
I called them again and asked why they hang up on me. I think they called AHS because they were afraid as I've been screaming and I told them I would call 911 because I have a camera recording everything. They told me to call AHS. I did and I told them everything. They said, "We are so sorry. We called another company to come in for the second opinion." So the next day, another company came in. The tech asked permission to come in, asked what the problem was and he listened. He checked the thermostat and he said it wasn't that. He then went in to the roof and after half an hour, he came back and said, "I found the problem and I fixed it." My heater is now working. I'm really mad about the very first company. But the guy from the second company was really good. I'm happy with him.

The contractors have been overall good as well. Millennial came out and they looked at my problem. They said the system needed Freon and they fixed it. So, I am satisfied.

I have an HVAC out and they sent two separate companies out to fix. Both companies were incompetent and did nothing. So they said for me to find someone to fix. I did then they said it was too expensive. Now 5 months into this ordeal I do not know what to do. I’ve called at least 50 times since September. Still no heat. I will never buy a warranty from them again. Ken **, Greenwood MS.

I called American Home Shield when I had an electrical issue. I plugged in an air conditioner into the wall and it shorted out my electricity. Half of my house didn’t have electricity. I had someone come out, and they charged me the deductible but they never fixed the problem. I called them, and I never got a response back. I’m dissatisfied about that. The guy who came out wanted to charge $1,800 to fix the problem, and I was not happy with that at all.
I spoke to numerous people at American Home Shield, and at the beginning, they didn’t even tell that it was denied. All they said was it was in the process. And then weeks down the road, I found out from someone that it wasn’t covered on my contract, which I didn’t understand why, if it was all part of the whole thing. I started going through the fine print of the policy itself and then I found some part where it said that they might not do power surges. But that was not what I was told when I first got the policy. So I was very disappointed.
I also called American Home Shield when I needed rekeying, and I had some reservations about calling the locksmith out. But the locksmith was great. He did a good job, and he did it pretty fast. But the electrical claim was never fixed and I never got calls back. They didn’t even follow up by calling me back. I went the entire summer without having power in half of my house, which meant I didn’t have an air conditioner in there. So it was not a good feeling. I ended up having to contract somebody else to fix it. So I’m not so sure that I would renew with them. I'm thinking about switching to a different company when the policy is over.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

Horrible service and lack of competency. I originally submitted my work order for an electrical issue with my garage light in October 2019. The contractor provided me detailed notes as to when they submitted the diagnosis to AHS in October, November, and December 2019. Yet, every time I call AHS no one has any notes and they blame the contractor for not submitting the diagnosis. The light needs to be converted because the part is no longer available and it seems AHS gives you the run around to avoid paying to fix the issue. I recently submitted another order because my AC stopped working. Same thing. I have had to call every day this week and they say the AC company did not submit the diagnosis.
I made them call the AC repair company right then to obtain the diagnosis and a part is needed. No one knows when the part will come in to fix my AC. It’s been over a week now since I submitted this request. I live in Florida and you can’t leave your home without circulating air. I asked to speak to a supervisor yesterday, the guy from a very obvious foreign country put me on hold for over 30 minutes to come back and say his supervisor is “very busy” and can’t talk to me. This company is a waste of time and money.

The claim with Home Shield for the dishwasher was fine. I know I’m dealing with an insurance company and they’re notoriously backward and slow. The tech had to come out here, evaluate it, report it, and wait for them to come back and say, “Okay. It’s all right to do.” It slows everything up. The guy was very nice. He explained that he had to wait for his approval. Then, he came out and took care of the issue and everything was fine. But if we have something that we really need to take care of, something that is really broken, then we have to wait through that process. It takes a lot of time and it's very awkward. The time lapse between start to finish is crap and ridiculous. They could speed up the time between notification and completion.
Also, they’re using offshore people and they only take messages. We had one instance with the heating system. The guy came out and evaluated it and said, “Okay. I gotta go through that process.” They asked for a second opinion and I got another call unbeknownst to me from another guy and said he was coming out to work on my problem. I asked who he was and he had to explain it. And he said he was coming out to check my ductwork and I said there was no problem with my ductwork. That wasn’t the issue at all. They’re using offshore people that are not well-trained because that’s not what they can do. They can’t go offshore and train these people. They have to ask somebody else to try and train them and they’re very untrained. That bothers me a lot. They should get their act together. It costs money.
Then, when they fixed the heating and air system, they were only paying $10 on adding Freon. Freon has come a long way through the EPA and it’s at approximately $80 to $100 per gallon and they were giving 10. When I raised such a stink with them about the heating and air system, switching contractors on me, the time it was taking, and the weather’s getting cold and I have no heat, they agreed. They said they would take care of everything. I was out there when they were adding Freon. The system takes eight gallons and they added five. Home Shield paid for it.
Another issue is that we have a claim for a clothes washer. You close the door, you hit on, you hear a snap, and it locks the door. It just sits there. 20 seconds later, you hear a snap and the door opens. It comes up, door unlocked, you wait another 20 seconds and it snaps again, door locked. It goes through the process. To me, that means there’s something wrong. If you let it go, it’s not gonna heal itself. Home Shield charged our card for the $75 required and we haven’t heard a word from them. That’s another thing they need to straighten out. They shouldn’t charge my credit card until that person comes on the property. Don’t charge my credit card and sit on it.
I complained to our Realtor who bought us the policy. I called my Realtor and told him he needs to be looking at somebody else. I’ve pointed out a lot of things but they won’t come to us and say, “Well, let’s sit down. Come on, drive into Vancouver, where we have an office there,” or, “We’ll sit down with your company rep and tell us how we can better improve and we’ll take it to heart and do it."
Richard,
I apologize that your experience with us was not satisfactory. Thank you for speaking with me in an attempt to reach a resolution.

I'm a widow and my mother who lives with me is a widow too. There are some things that we can't do and fix ourselves. I tried to fix the garage door myself and most springs had messed up so there was nothing I could do. Home Shield sent Flash Garage Door Services and they did a wonderful job. The tech was here on time. He called to let me know he was coming and he got here in plenty of time. He worked really fast and it didn't take him long to fix it.
The other time, my oven went kapooey. It locked on itself when I was cooking cornbread for Thanksgiving a couple years ago and it wouldn't turn off. It went to the clean cycle so it ruined my oven. I have a son and son-in-law that come by and do some stuff but this I knew they couldn't do so I went ahead and called Home Shield. They replaced it with one just like it so that was good. They took it right out of my checking account and it worked out real well.

I had my air conditioning system installed in May of 2016 and it’s been nothing but a nightmare after the first year or so. I got American Home Shield for a couple of years now, and I’m so glad that I do. When they installed the AC unit, they put a Wi-Fi thermostat with it. In December of last year, the Wi-Fi kept going out. It wouldn’t stay connected. Ultimately, it turned out that the Wi-Fi thermostat had blown a fuse. Ace Heating & Cooling came out and fixed that. Then, it still kept whacking out so they kept coming out, which all originated with the Wi-Fi thermostat, which has been replaced by the thermostat company. Then, apparently, this thermostat blew out a transformer and they fixed that as well. They said it should be good to go now. They traced all the wiring so I’ve been very pleased with Ace. They're not my AC company, but I recommend them to other people.
In general, I’m very pleased that I have American Home Shield because I’d be still sitting at a sauna house, freezing at night. I had only one hiccup with them. I just wanted to change the day my bill was due, and I had to go back and forth with them for a couple of months over that. I almost quit them and went to another company but I thought that it was a stupid reason to leave. When on a limited budget, you need to know when you can pay them when and I wanted that bill to be in at a certain time and not at the time that they had it coming in to automatically take it out of my checking account. But that was more of bookkeeping, clerical issue rather than a service issue. I imagine that this is probably standard with warranty companies. But I finally got what I needed from them.
When Ace came out the first time with an apparently blown fuse, not knowing that it was gonna whack out again ‘cause it blew another fuse too, that was another thing it did. Until the thing was actually closed to satisfaction, it has a 60-day timeframe under which if the same thing keeps happening or anything related to it, they still come out until it is repaired or replaced. I was very happy with that as well ‘cause they’ve been out four times on this one thing and I wasn’t paying my $100 deductible every time.

AHS provides a security blanket for me and my family if something could go wrong with the house. I’ve had minor things with the dishwasher, the dryer and air conditioners. I had a major thing where my entire heater had to be replaced. And so, it’s peace of mind for me. Recently, my dryer wasn't working. I had a heating element that went out. I submitted a claim online to AHS and the website was fairly intuitive. Everything worked well once I made my claim and they told me who my contractor was gonna be. My problems had been after that.
The response time of Hinco, the contractor, was poor, and so I had to turn around and call American Home Shield back. And then, after I called them back, I got a follow-up telephone call from Hinco in a matter of moments. They said they could come out tomorrow. I said, "Tomorrow doesn't work for me. It needs to be the following week." They asked me if I had a preferred date. I said I didn't. I was gonna be on vacation both of those days. They said they'd call me back on Monday. But they never called me back.
I called them again and I left a message and then they turned around and called me, and then it happened. But it took from the time of my response to them until I ended getting an appointment was excessive. It was well over a week. But the guy that they sent out was absolutely great. He told me everything that was going on and what he thought the problem was. He thought he was gonna be able to fix it in just a few minutes and he did.

Rapid Appliance Care came out for my refrigerator. I also have a claim for my oven and it’s still pending. I've been trying to find an oven. They quoted me a price and I have to be in that range. I found one, but it’s always higher than what AHS quoted me that I can use. I don’t know what else to do. I can’t cook for over a year on my oven. So, it’s kinda hard. My claim has been out there going on two years.
Since I had my house, I've been with American Home Shield. I moved in my house in ’05. It’s pretty decent. For the oven part of it, I guess they want me to do the legwork and it’s hard for me to do it. I’m off on Wednesdays, and that’s the only day I try to go into the stores. I feel like they know what I need with my oven concern and they can go out and get that themselves instead of me doing the legwork. I have to measure it, then if I make the wrong measurement, then I'm responsible for paying it. So, I gotta be really careful about that as well. The contractors are fine. Everything gets done when they come out, but then when they have to go on top of the roof, you got to pay more money for some crazy reason. I understand that’s what they gotta do. Homeowner warranty does not cover the one on top of the roof if there's a stoppage.

American Home Shield outsourced everything to India, so the plumber they called couldn’t understand them and hung up on them. I called them the next day and the plumber said they didn't get that ‘cause he couldn’t understand what they were saying. It was not good. The front-end process is a little sticky ‘cause of how they outsourced their customer service. But after that, everything went fine. I called at regular hours and every subsequent claim went fine. AHS have sent good people out here. They really are straight up, and I've been impressed with everyone that has come in the door. Secure Home Locksmith & Safety came out and did what they were supposed to do and they were good.

We’ve lost our air conditioner in the summer and now we’ve lost our heater in the winter, yet American Home Shield is just putting parts in it. I was under the impression that if something went bad, they would replace it, but that hasn’t happened. I don’t want to go through this again in the summer or next winter. This is not necessarily what we planned on when we paid almost $1,000 for the year of it. I had to take my mom to a hotel in the summer. And then this winter, we had to sleep with space heaters going, which I know was not safe and I don’t think that was good. If we go through the summer and the sucker goes out, I'm gonna be very disappointed. Also, it took the contractor a week to get the heater part in, and we didn’t like that. Other than that, they came right out and put it in. We only had to spend one night in a hotel in the summer, and we were able to scrape up some heaters for this last deal and we stayed in our home. That wasn’t too bad.

I just had to cut my turkey up in two pieces and did it in a toaster oven.
Also, American Home Shield needs to keep their appointment as promised. My appointment was cancelled when it shouldn't have been cancelled. It was moved, and then they couldn't get someone out until after the holidays when they said they were gonna get someone else during the holidays. But it’s really easy to get things done with American Home Shield, whom I've been with for over 10 years, and I like it. Submitting a claim is also very simple. I just call. When the compressor acted up in July, instead of fixing the leak in the compressor, they just put in stuff, which didn't fix the problem. They just band-aid it. And I was told that that was what they were told to do by AHS, which was not really impressive. We've been with AHS for forever. Our temperature wasn't turning hot and when we turn on the shower upstairs, it leaked through the kitchen light. So, it went from upstairs to downstairs. It was crazy. We filed a claim with AHS and our experience was excellent. The part had to be ordered which took five to seven days but it wasn't bad. They've fixed it and it doesn't leak anymore.

Ohohna was sent by AHS when we filed a claim with them for our heating. They found a problem that nobody knew was there. One of our unit's control boards was burnt up. The first time, they put in the new compressor, but we didn't know about the burned-up board so the new compressor went out within a couple days. They then ordered a new one and came back. In three or four hours, they had the problem solved and we were happy with that timeframe. Overall, I'm really pleased with AHS.

We had a plumbing situation. True Master Inc. came out and the gentleman kinda researched the problem and took two tries at it. At first he stayed on the surface, and once he couldn’t discover the problem at the surface level, he investigated a little further into my sewer line and found the problem. He was professional with my home, as far as cleaning up after himself, explaining every step along the way before the work was getting ready to be, and I like that along the way. Also, the whole step didn’t take too long for me, processing the order, calling AHS, and setting up the appointment. Overall, AHS is doing so darn pretty good.

Blue Water Plumbing is amazing. I’ve recommended them to other people. The contractor was prompt, courteous, and had great communication. He even followed up afterward to make sure everything was okay. He was fabulous. He communicated a great time for the appointment. He showed up when he was supposed to. He did the job efficiently. He was clean and couldn’t have been better. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.
It was my second claim, and I’ve had another company here since which has been a horrible experience. Somebody needs to put them out of business because they are truly horrible. AHS hasn’t been able to get any resolution with my dryer. It broke down on January 2nd. I called them. They had somebody come out on the 3rd. They needed to order a part, which is understandable, even though I had given them the code, which if you look on the manual says what part it needs. They ordered the part. Someone finally came back yesterday to finish the repair. It was 4 o’clock in the afternoon after I’ve waited on the window of 8:00 to 5:00.
There was no communication as far as the window. I get that every job can take longer here and there, but the morning of, they ought to be able to give you some kind of an idea. Additionally, they had ordered the wrong part. The girl got on the phone with her manager, Rochelle. Rochelle said she was gonna source the part locally, and they would definitely be back today to finish the repair. But today, I found out that they don’t plan on coming back until Friday. I haven’t been able to use my dryer since January 2nd.
They tell you they’re gonna do something, and then they don’t do it, and they order parts and the wrong parts arrive. You ask for a supervisor and you can’t get one. I’ve tried to reach Rochelle, and they tell me that she doesn’t exist. She existed yesterday when my tech called her. So, I’m sure she does exist. They say there’s nothing they can do. There really ought to be something they can do because at this point, my renewal for American Home Shield’s the end of this month, and I really don’t know if I’m gonna renew or not. I've missed countless hours of work. I’ve tried to contact AHS and I’ve gotten nowhere. It was like, “We’ve done everything we can do.” I said, "Well, you haven’t done everything you can do because I don’t have a dryer." It’s not acceptable. Also, AHS doesn’t give you an option. They just say, “We’re sending somebody out.” They don’t say you can have A, B, and C.

My guest bathroom bathtub leaked in the ceiling below and the ceiling in my dining room came down so I filed a claim. I was asked if there is any ongoing damage to my residence. I said that it needed to be fixed sooner than later. The gentleman on the other line understood that it was very urgent so he called somebody right away. Silver Eagle Plumbing came out. They broke a piece and I heard them yelling from one ceiling to the other saying that it’s gonna be a trip to Lowe’s, so they were great. I actually regretted that I didn’t get a business card from them ‘cause the two gentlemen were very commendable. I would absolutely call them again. Overall, a very good experience. It's just that I’m paying for many years and I only had two little claims so far. It would be nice to get a break in my deductible since I'm not a consumer that overuses AHS.

American Home Shield sent out Bell Cow and we ended up putting in a new heat pump. They gave us wonderful service. Not only were they professional, but they answered all questions. Any concerns that I had, they took time to answer that before they did whatever they needed to do. When they came into the actual house to install a new register for us to regulate the heat, they did a really good job with explaining that to me. And they actually had me do a demonstration that I could follow through. We have a second heat pump upstairs and if it would ever go back out again, I'm hoping that American Home Shield would send Bell Cow back again.
American Home Shield brings in qualified people to us. We don't have to search for them. They also listen to our concerns because we had one contractor at one particular time that didn't provide what we needed. We called American Home Shield and they switched contractors to someone that we could use. We also had lots of replacements. So, they're very good and we're very happy with them.

I went to go get in the pool yesterday and the heater doesn’t work, but it worked a few days before that. I had it on for about 30 minutes then I went to climb in but it was like 58 degrees. It was too cold. I cracked a rib yesterday and I needed to get in the hot tub. Our doctor said it would do me some good.

I've been without a freezer for over three weeks now. The contractor is due to come out not until February 2nd, so that'll be at least a month. So I'm not pleased. I have an LG freezer and it's a one unit compressor. The first people that Home Shield sent out said they don't work on LGs. The only person that works on LGs in our area is Sears. We've had Sears come out through Home Shield in the years past and they have very poor service, and they take forever. The same thing happened again with this claim. They set a date, but the man never showed up. But the tech did call and said that it was too late at that time and he would set it for another week. I told him that we've already been out of a freezer for two weeks now. He said that they lost 25 guys and that all he can do is next week. He asked us what we needed. We said the compressor for the LG freezer, and he said that he has one on his truck.
The tech showed up at the appointment the next week and said that somebody must've used the compressor and now, he doesn't have one. He said he had to order it and set an appointment for February 2nd. So that'll be a month I've been without a freezer. He ordered the compressor yesterday, and it arrived to our house by UPS. This is a typical experience with Sears. Home Shield usually takes care of my problem. It's when they have to subsidize it to somebody else is the problem.
Home Shield should send out somebody besides Sears. They can also process the claim in a timely manner. I don't think somebody should go without their appliance for a whole family for a month. The tech called Home Shield and he said this appliance has already been worked on before and asked if they would like to replace the appliance instead of waiting the next two weeks. And Home Shield took the cheaper option, so they told the tech to order the part. When somebody is going without an appliance for that long or you can't get a part, replacing it should be the right option to do the customer right.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy and I will contact you to make sure your issue is resolved.

The downstairs bathroom was flooding as there was a clog in the line somewhere in our septic system. We needed assistance so I called American Home Shield and they found 2 different people that were local. One company wasn’t gonna be able to come out until the following day but we needed to have it done that day. We wouldn’t have been able to use any of our water 'cause each time we turn on the faucet, it flooded. It came back to our downstairs bathroom. So, I called back Home Shield and they found another company, Proline, who were able to come out that late evening. We had no issues with the contractors and they stayed in contact with us. They let us know what time they were gonna be here approximately and they were here within about 15 minutes of when they said they were gonna be. They cleared the line and that was a good experience.
American Home Shield covered the initial cleanout of the septic system, but it cost $100 for the contractors to come out and clear the lines. Then, we had to have the septic pumped, which we had to pay for $500. It was because there is a riser that goes up and it wasn’t high enough. The previous owners had buried it and we weren’t able to find it. If we had known where that was, then we could’ve unclogged it ourselves. So, it cost us a few hundred dollars for that riser to be extended up, and they also put an alarm. In the end, while we were able to use our septic system, it cost us $1,000 in addition to fix the problem.
American Home Shield did what they said they were gonna do and they followed through. They took care of what immediately needed to be done, and it just happened to be that there was another problem and another problem. All of that has been resolved, but unfortunately, American Shield didn’t cover the whole thing and carried only the immediate problem. Still, the problem was resolved that day, which was great. A major issue was taken care of in a timely manner.

We were losing our hot water in our hot water heater. We couldn’t take two showers or a shower back-to-back. We couldn’t wash clothes at the same time with the shower. It came to the point where we couldn’t function very well. We messed with it for a couple of weeks, and we tried to say, “Don’t try to wash at the same time.” But it just kept getting worse and we realized that something was really wrong.
My experience with American Home Shield was very good. The process through the website was user-friendly. We just didn’t know who we'd get to come take a look at it, but the ones who came were extremely professional. The guy from R & H Plumbing Service knew what he was doing, diagnosed it very quickly, and then gave us the options of what we could possibly do. They ended up replacing it and then we added another thing that he had to call and get that approved. It was a regular 40-gallon tank, and half of it was gone and the other half was on its way out. So, he was able to add something that would make it the same as if the tank was a little beyond 40 and would actually hold more. We were very happy with that process. It cost us more to do the additional thing, but it was well worth it because we now have a better situation.
The contractor did it fast. He came about 11 o’clock and he was out about 3:00, then it was done. He saw what kind it was and then called for whoever it was to bring the heater out. He was unhooking everything while the other guy was on his way and he drove up. And by the time he drove up, he had the other one unhooked, ready to go out, and they rolled the other one in and he started hooking it up. He was there three to four hours. We were very pleased with the entire process. It worked very well. We had AHS when we bought our home down there and then we decided we would extend it because it was a bit of an older home and everything looked like it was gonna be fine, but we ended up using AHS a couple of times since we’ve been there. The process has been good and the people that they have sent have been quality people, very professional and have done very good work.

The blower was running but there was no heat coming out of it. I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and that wasn't an option, so I went through the website of AHS and made a ticket. It was a good website and they contacted me when they found somebody to do the work. It was really quick. Then, a tech from Majestic Custom Heating and Air Conditioning came out. He was great, very friendly, and knew what he was doing. It turned out that the pilot igniter had gone bad and it's a little piece that essentially tells whether or not the heat is on. He came in and fixed it very quickly.

A circuit breaker kept tripping repeatedly. We submitted the claim for that online and it was convenient. Arm Electric was sent out and they changed the breaker out. It was a faulty breaker, and we haven’t had a problem with it since. The experience went really well.

American Home Shield was one of the few who did our area and I’ve had them since May when I bought the house. They sent me the policy but I did not read it as fully as I should have. I thought I also had roof protection and found that I don’t. But I was pleased with the way the whole thing went when I made a claim and one thing I appreciated was not having to go through a bottle of phone menus. I was given a person, which was huge. I’m so fed up with menus although I understand the need for them. Also, I appreciate how quick the response was. The plumber said he would be here the next morning. I don’t know if it was an agreement that they have with AHS or if it was just the way this company does business. Either way, the plumbing company was fantastic. But it turned out to be the furnace, so the furnace company came out and took care of it. It was all very quick and well-done.

A couple of weeks back, I had a prior issue with the heater, and a guy came and changed the switch on it. But after that, the furnace was making a lot of sound. I was still seeing this noise after the last claim on it, so I submitted another claim online to American Home Shield and they said there was another follow-up person because it was within the 30 days. Today, a technician came and he said there was some block in the water pipe that was going to the sump. So, that was making the noise. He cleaned it up and he fixed it. The tech who came was good.

We called American Home Shield to request for a service for our fan. Appliance Wizard came out and everything got fixed. The part came quickly, which was really great. At first, the workman couldn’t find where he could get the part. My husband did his research to discover how to get it. He found it online and said it was definitely available, and was able to give him a way to get it. And so, something was amiss with the research. Had my husband not done that, we wouldn’t have been able to get the part, and it would’ve been thought of as discontinued. But we were able to get it and it was installed, so we ended up being happy about the results.

When we turned the heat on, there was some noise. Apparently, the motor had gone bad. The folks AHS out was absolutely fantastic. They were probably the best subcontractor out there since I’ve had my contract with AHS. They did a wonderful job, which hasn’t always been the case. I’m still working on some things with the dishwasher. I’ve also been dealing with them on my AC unit for about a year or so. I’ve had several folks who’ve come out a number of times.
The first one who came out said it needed some fluid put in it. They put fluid in it and then three months later, the fluid went out. The same company came back out and took the coil back to their company, sorted it together and brought it back. The contract says repair or replace and they did that, but it didn’t work. It was still leaking. I had to call out another contractor and pay an additional $75, which AHD charged. Another guy came out and finally said the coil needed to be replaced. I called AHS back and said that the coil needed to be replaced. I asked them how they wanna work with that and how much they are giving us to replace the coil.
AHS told me that they were only gonna give $200 towards the coil, which costs more than that. I don’t know why I should have to pay $600 for the coil. It should be on the warranty. They told me that that was what they can get it for. They’re not the ones who are buying and if they wanna buy and give it to me, that’s great. I’ll pay them the $200.
Other than that, AHS has been okay for the most part since I’ve had them. And for the most part, I’m satisfied with them, which is why I stay with them. But there should be a standard across the board. If they send a contractor out to my house and he identifies the part that needs to be replaced, then you shouldn’t be giving me a portion to replace it. If I’ve gotta go out now and buy a coil for my AC and it costs me more than what you are willing to give me, something is wrong with that. My contract said, “Replace and repair.” If a subcontractor comes to my house and the item needs to replace, they should say so and not prolong the situation. Also, I’ve had a number of contractors tell me that when they recommend something to be replaced, they get graded differently.
Good morning Bert,
Your concerns re understood regarding your most recent AHS service request to have the air conditioner repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and assist to get the issue resolved.

American Home Shield assigned my plumbing claim to a provider. But it was over a holiday weekend and I kept getting a recorded message. So, I had to push back a bit and make a couple of calls with American Home Shield to get them to reassign my claim to United Air Temp who have done quite a bit of work in my place previously. I was familiar with them and they came out right away. They fixed it, so their work was great. American Home Shield is resistant sometimes to being flexible but I was going out of town at the time and I had to get it fixed before I went out of town.
I’ve also had a water heater die on me and that was replaced. AHS contributed a nominal amount for that. Then I had to replace my AC unit, which they didn’t contribute anything towards. Their policies are pretty stringent and they find a way to not cover the bigger expenses or anything of significance. But they’re fine for the one-off minor plumbing issues and electrical. I would love to see them cover more significant breakages and issues, not just the smaller items. AHS has a good online interface, too. I’m able to ask for service online without having to necessarily talk to a representative and most of the time, that’s sufficient. Plus, most of the providers that they work for, including the electricians and plumbers, provide good quality work. I’ve worked with a few of them in particular and have been really happy. So, their service is relatively responsive.
Other than that, I’ve been a customer of AHS for some years now. They’ve raised my annual fee a couple of times and I would like to see my annual cost with them to stay the same over the next few years, rather than increasing annually. And right now, I’m paying $68 a month which is relatively affordable for the overall service that they provide and the savings. Also, their service fee has gone up to $75 and maybe that’s what they could get the providers to agree to because most plumbers won’t come out for anything less than 100 or 150. So, there's still savings there.

I filed a claim online to American Home Shield for a microwave that wasn't heating and someone called me. And then, Universal Repair came out to service it. The first technician that came out was very nice, but he only told me that I needed to have a certain type of plug instead of him telling me to also see about having it taken out. And because my microwave is over the top of my stove, it's encased between my two cabinets, so I had to have somebody to come out and remove it. And they sent another technician out, TJ, to do the repairs after I've done that. The part from the first technician that came out was already ordered so he didn't need to order it. He had the part when he came back out and he was able to repair it for me so he was good. I was very well pleased with his service and his personality.

One time, I wasn't getting any air or heat. The system kept shutting off and I couldn't get it on again. Periodically it would run for an hour or so and that was it. I paid three times for AHS' contractor to come out. Finally, I had techs who showed me how to work my system. They went on the roof and told me that there were two capacitors that needed replacing. They changed those and my system has worked ever since.
Last December, our washer was not spinning and draining properly. I put three towels in the washer and it ran through. It spun and everything was fine. If I put a heavier thing, it leaves water in the articles. When I run it, the washer keeps saying "Sensing, sensing, sensing" and it stays at 21 minutes. I called American Home Shield for a claim and the guy who came the first time said that he needed to change the pump. I waited two or three weeks and he came back and put the pump in. He ran the washer supposedly that time but it was empty and I don't know how one would run an empty washer to drain. He also said he was not gonna take a picture of the situation because AHS wouldn't approve.
The second time he came out, the washer was not working again. He ran the washer empty again and showed me a picture that had all kinds of stuff in it. He said the drain was clogged with all those things and with coins. He neither showed me the stuff nor the coins and did not carry anything out of the house other than the tool kit that he brought in.
I asked the tech how the items got through the tiny holes in the washer and he told me that there were two tubs there. I asked how the items got into the second tub and he couldn't explain that. Also, the 6-inch-wide rubber tubing around that seals the tub and the doorknob is always full of water. The washer on the hand only has a little bit of water. The tech said that was normal. I told him that I've had one of these washers for 10 years before I moved and it worked perfectly. Never was there any water in the rubber gasket.
Supposedly, he changed the pump and all the hoses around the machine before but when he came out the second time, he said it was still clogged. I have never missed one article of clothing. I haven't put anything heavy in the washer. I never put money in my pocket. So, I don’t know how those items got in there. The tech showed the picture to his company who then sent it to AHS. I heard from no one for two weeks. I called AHS a couple of times and yesterday they told me that the repair wasn't authorized because the problem was not caused by normal wear and tear. So now, I'm paying another $75 in order to get someone else come out to look at my washer and it's still not fixed.
I also told the rep that I was paying over $1000 and my contract just renewed on the 28th of December last year. I told him I wanna cancel it 'cause it's not worth the piece of paper it's written on. The rep said that he was sorry to hear that and that they would send another person out. My daughter has this warranty too and I’m gonna have her cancel it ‘cause she had the same problem.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was easy. The first appointment, however, had to be canceled because I had a window between 10:00 and 2:00, then I didn’t get a phone call until almost 2:30. That time, I had already left the house. I waited sitting at home on a weekend, not knowing what was going to happen, and then we did not get any updates. My daughter called AHS for a claim and I think she got a really good service. She’s been happy and she still is. She has a washing machine that's not one of those new washing machines that don’t get your clothes clean, so it used a lot of water. With the volume of water, in which the drain wasn't used to it, it caused a little bit of residue built-up. Dave's Plumbing Repair cleaned it out and it’s fine now. They did a good job. I went with American Home Shield because the real estate lady was very kind to get the former owner of the house to pay for it for us. And I think it was a great idea now after we had that problem.

I went online to American Home Shield and requested someone to come out and take a look at our furnace because it wasn't turning on. No heat was blowing in the house. The company that came out said it was fine and there was nothing wrong with it. They left after briefly looking at it for 15 minutes but it still wasn't on. After that, I called AHS instead of doing it online. The rep said that she would have 7 Cities contact me within 24 hours. When I had an email with 7 Cities' information on it, I contacted them and asked if they were sending anyone out to take a look at the furnace. I got same-day services when I called. They came and they found that I needed to have it turned off because it could've blown. It was some problem on our side. They had to repair some rusted pipes down in the furnace and they also needed to order parts for that.
The first company didn’t go in to look at it like 7 Cities did. They didn’t actually take the panels apart and look all the way in there. 7 Cities actually looked all through the pipes. They have replaced it for me and since they fixed it, everything's been great. During that break in between the first company and 7 Cities, I had to use plug-in heaters. But now, it's perfect and I don't have to use any additional heating in the house.
The first company was very dissatisfying and I had to pay the consultant for 15 minutes of their time to tell me everything's fine. But we're very satisfied with our experience the second time around. I had to pay the fee the second time but it was worth it. The tech actually walked me through, showed me what was wrong and had me look at the pipes with him.
