American Home Shield is a home warranty provider that offers service plans throughout the contiguous United States. It offers three home warranty plan options, priced from $29.99 to $89.99 per month, with either a $100 or $125 service fee. In addition to normal wear and tear, plans cover breakdowns from rust, insufficient maintenance and faulty repairs, which are often excluded from home warranty coverage.

My toilet wasn't flushing. When I took a shower, the bowl would fill up and then afterwards, it would go down. Submitting the claim for it to American Home Shield was good. Ark-La-Flow was scheduled within the same day, and they came out the following day. The contractor was great. He called AHS or his supervisor, and told them what was going on. He made some phone calls, came back, and told me that AHS would replace the unit if it was within whatever they would replace and that I could take the one that I had purchased back -- I had already bought a toilet. He came, gave me the estimate, and then told me that he would come back after the holidays, and he did. He then replaced the toilet, and it is now working fine. It took a week for them to come back and complete the job. I wish it could have happened the same day, but it did not.

Sometimes, the people from American Home Shield that answer the phone at the beginning don’t know much and it takes a long time on the phone. When you have so many properties, sometimes, they don’t refer to the properties. Another problem is that when you get the bill on your credit card, it doesn’t tell you exactly which contract number it’s referring to. So, then the accounting we need to do to divide it to the unit that it belongs to is kind of messy because you gotta call and request some information to be able to do it. But so far, AHS has resolved most of the problems. And when they have not, they have reimbursed. So, it’s been working pretty good.

I called Home Shield yesterday for my garage door, but they said it’s not covered. Other than that, the first contractor came to work on the heater because it was not hot enough, so he came to adjust it. And then I was charged $75. It’s working well. Then the second one came to work on my my heat and air. Our recent claim was for a plumbing issue and that went well.

The guy who came out to take a look at my garage door was professional. He gave me the estimate and that was what it was. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was pretty easy. I really had a dire emergency. It was on a Sunday and the fees that they wanted to charge on Christmas Sunday was outlandish for that weekend. Traditionally, if you have somebody on call, you have somebody on call. I understand that's the way it goes, but I thought to charge like triple the rate for somebody to come out for something that was very essential to my house was a gouge.

One of our units for the heating didn’t work. Apparently, a part was broken and it had to be ordered. The guys from SBS were really eager to get that done quickly. They called and they said that they were rushing it because they knew it was the holidays and it was cold and they got out here. They were very friendly and prompt. I’ve had American Home Shield for years and years. I like them but when I call in, it takes forever to talk to someone. Other than that, I was very pleased with SBS and I would like to have that company come out again.

Everything went fine with my heating claim with American Home Shield. A piece was missing off the furnace and Fick's Mechanical came and replaced it. The guy was very nice. The furnace is now working fine.

Submitting a claim with AHS was very easy and I was very happy with the process. I’ve called them twice and both times the contractors corrected the problem the first time. Everybody’s top-notch. For my recent claim, AHS sent out a tech from Total Air Care and he was great. He found the problem right away and got things going in about an hour.

I was here trapped in the house and needed to take my grandkids to school. I couldn’t get in the garage and couldn’t get out. I submitted a claim to AHS and Ace’s Garage Door came out and fixed it. I can get in and out the garage. It’s working now. When we had a leak, my husband died in the middle of that leak. But they came out when I called them and told them what happened. They came right away and stopped the leak. AHS has been pretty good.

We have all high end appliances in our kitchen, Sub-Zero, Viking, etc. When I signed up to go with American Home Shield the salesman assured me that I would have no trouble if one needed replacement with a comparable appliance, although not necessarily the same brand. He reiterated that a Viking would be replaced with a similar costing brand. When my Viking dishwasher failed, they determined that it could not be repaired because they no longer could get parts. (It took almost a month for them to make this assessment.)
They offered a mid level replacement costing less than half as much. This was not what their salesperson said and I was very specific about replacement. In addition their supervisor said that they would not increase their offer at all. I feel that their offer was nowhere near the quality of the Viking (it costs less than half as much) and they were arbitrary in determining the cash offer in lieu of accepting their replacement brand. Beware of this company if you have high end appliances.

Updated on 01/02/2020: After AHS refused to pay for a/c r/replacement. I called to cancel. They gave me the runaround and had me on hold forever. After 10 min, Finally I told them to cancel it, they said it's $54 to cancel. WTH.
Original: Signed up for AHS about a year ago (Bought combo plan $58 a month and $108 a visit), A/C stopped blowing, called AHS, after 3 visits 3rd tech said I needed a new unit. AHS said they will only pay $560.

The guy from Mr. Fix It Repairs who came in to do the check on my dishwasher was was polite and nice. He was talking all the time, telling what he was doing and what he was checking for. We were there with him and he was good. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was easy. They told us to check on the page, but we told them we were leaving because we had business to do on the 1st and we had to leave the house and we would be back in a couple of months because we are both working. So, the rep said, "The page that I sent you, you have to look on it and then purchase it and send us the invoice, and we'll send the check to you." So, we did it. When I called them again, they told me there was something wrong with the spelling of my last name, so I knew they were fixing it. Overall, our experience with AHS was good.

American Home Shield referred CK Appliance and they came out to fix my Bosch dishwasher. I really like them. They also came out another time before to fix my refrigerator. It was a stopped up drain. CK is efficient, on time, very nice, and very professional. They came in, diagnosed the problem, and didn't waste time. They answered my questions and if I didn't have questions, then they explained stuff. I would always ask for them if they can service me. American Home Shield go by zip code and CK has people over here in my zip code. I also work in the same area where their office is. And that's what makes the reputation of American Home Shield good with the people that they send. I know American Home Shield said something to me that, “Well, we like to collect the service fee upfront.” And I said, "Well, that's different but I understand it." And they explained why, which is fine. So, so far, I've had good experiences.
I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and when I submit claims, I like to talk to a person. I know people go online but I just like the interaction with talking to who I’m assigned. I also just like to know that it's been received. And American Home Shield has always been responsive to my request. I've been very pleased as well with who they send out. The only time I wasn't pleased was many years ago when my heat pump went out and I had to bicker back and forth. And so, I had talked to the headquarters and they made a compromise. But everything else has been on target.

I went online and requested the appointment for my shower that was leaking. Navigating through the website was really good because that's more easy for making the appointment. Pipe Down Services came out to do service and the plumber was very good because he found the problem on the shower. We were thinking it was gonna be hard to fix but he did very well. And since he had been out, everything has been really good. I chose American Home Shield because of somebody's recommendation and I've had them for a month already.

I like that you don’t have to find somebody to do the work, and when something happens, you just call American Home Shield and they get in touch with the contractor that works on that kind of stuff. Within a pretty short time, the contractor’s office gets in touch with you and asks when they could come out. They’ve always done the work really well. Shields Plumbing responds to their calls quickly. Within 24 hours, they are out here to do their thing. And the technician knows what he’s doing. He finds the problem very quickly and does a really good job. He recently had to get a one little thing that fit in the hose where the washing machine drains into the sewer system. It didn’t take long ‘cause he’s been here before and he knows what’s going on in our house.

Dean’s Shop came out for my air conditioner and they were wonderful. I would prefer not to use anybody else but them. They're local San Marcos people. They do a great job and they're downright good people. Dean’s Shop is the best. If anybody wants a recommendation, I would suggest them. But my most recent claim was the water heater and they don’t work on gas water heaters, so I had to use somebody else. American Home Shield sent somebody out and he was in my house for about five minutes, turned a knob, and I had to pay $125 for that. It ticked me off. The guy told my daughter to not worry about it and that the insurance was taking care of it. I told my daughter later that I had to pay $125 upfront and all he did was turn a knob because the knob somehow got turned. I called and asked if they could at least refund half of it, but they said no.
I totaled up the amount of money that I have given American Home Shield and it's around $15,000 because I’ve been with them for 20 years. I don’t use them very often because nothing really bad happens. But still, that’s a hell of a lot of money. I remember when I was only paying $50 for them to come out and then it went up to $75, and then the next time I used them it was $125. It’s really hard to give $125 every time I use them, knowing that I’ve given them so much money. I’m disappointed that I have to throw out a $125 upfront, but that’s the way the world works.

I had a leak in the bathroom faucet and then I submitted a claim for it online. The contractor who came was on time and he did a good job. The issue was all repaired in one day, and everything has been working fine since then.

Our furnace and heating did not come on. I submitted a claim on it online and American Home Shield's website was simple. I figured it out. I made the claim on Tuesday and the contractor came out on Thursday. The guy was good and he fixed the issue. Everything has been working fine now. AHS, however, is getting too expensive to maintain. It's close to $60 a month. I've had a refrigerator claim, which was a big one, but I haven't had a whole lot of claims in the past five years. Overall, I like everything about it except the price.

My washing machine wouldn’t work and it got like a burning smell to it a time or two. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the experience was absolutely exemplary. David from Green’s Appliance came by and looked at the machine. He said what was needed, got a part and then came back the next day or two to put it in. And as of now, everything is perfect. David is the only appliance technician that I would use. I met him through American Home Shield a number of years ago. We had our dishwasher replaced one time, and I told them I want David to install it. I have also referred him to a lot of people. He’s a great guy.

Wade's Plumbing called ahead when they were coming, they came on time, they came when nobody else would come, and they knew what they were doing when they got here. They cleaned up well, and they're nice guys to work with. I've been with American Home Shield for five years. Sometimes, they do the service like you think they're gonna do, and other times they wanna argue about it. I've had good results with them and not so good. But as far as Wade's Plumbing, they're excellent.
American Home Shield needs to clear up what they cover. Every time you put something new in a home, like a furnace, a heater, water system or water heater, if it's been there any length of time, there's gonna be upgrades either by the local government or the county or at that matter, the whole country upgrades sometimes. They don't cover those upgrades. And sometimes, that's the most expensive part of the whole thing.

We had a pressure valve leak on one of the hot water heaters and I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield. The contractors were on time, very professional, and fixed the problem immediately and without any hassle. They let me know exactly what was going on. They replaced the pressure release valve and the pipe that goes to the drain from that valve. Since then, the hot water heater has been working great. Overall, the experience was very positive.

The water turn-off valve broke and I didn’t wanna mess with trying to turn the water off and replacing it. The contractor, Advance Home Services, replaced it. The technician was great, very professional and did a good job.

I had a bad light switch in my bathroom. We kept flicking it on and off and certain things on my house started not to work. MidSouth Electric came out and fixed some, changed some, I think, amps in there. They got it back working for us. For the water heater that went out, I really wanted the technicians back sooner. But everything is good.

Major Home Appliance Service came out and everything was good. They were helpful and I didn't have any issues with them, so we're happy. Now, we're trying to find a replacement dishwasher and we're in the process of finding one that will fit the space that it has. We've had American Home Shield for almost two and a half years now, but we've had them prior to that when we had a condo. We've had them the whole time for close to 10 years total and I've been telling everybody about them. I've actually had some family and friends get American Home Shield 'cause of how everything worked out for us. Really awesome.

We had a claim where APCO Sale and Services came out, and everything was perfect. I paid my deductible and the technicians who came out were pleasant. They looked at my dishwasher and my fridge. For my fridge, they had the part on hand and were able to fix it in the same visit. For the dishwasher, they had to order a part, came back 2 to 3 days later, and then they replaced the part. There were no surprises or anything, and it was great. Having American Home Shield is not the cheapest option but from my experience so far, they handled the claim really well.

I had a problem with my swimming pool pump. And, like I normally do, I called AHS 'cause I like to talk to a living person as I want them to make sure they understand exactly what the problem is. Unfortunately, it took a week for a contractor to come out to my home after I filed the claim. While the contractor did well and we had an excellent interaction with the guy, American Home Shield should have enough companies that they can go to to get us the next day or a couple of days' service, instead of having to wait for a week for someone to come out. In the summer months, one doesn't leave the swimming pool for a week without a pump because here in the desert where we live, it would get mold. Other than that, everything's going really well now. I even upgraded my pump in my entire control system for my pool so that hopefully I won't ever have any problems again.

Having AHS has been a good value and so I've kept them these past two years. I submitted a claim for a water heater issue and they sent Lubbock A-1 Plumbing. The tech said that my heater was busted.

I have a Thermador refrigerator and on the outside, I have the ice and water dispenser and where the water was coming out, it was mildewy. I called and asked them if it could be looked at and if it, as well as a piece where it drains, could be replaced. A very qualified person was sent out to look at it. He said that he was gonna put in the request and I was told that I was gonna get a call to see when it could be replaced. Then I got a text saying that if I wanted it done, I would have to get a company to do it for me and then AHS would pay for it up to a certain amount. It seemed fair to me, but I thought that I didn’t wanna do that. I cleaned it myself and it looks a lot better.
Also, when my dryer was knocking, the contractor replaced the little balls inside, which fixed it. And while he was here, I asked him if he could pull it out so I could clean the back, but he wouldn’t do it. Other than that, they’ve been wonderful. My microwave also got fixed. All in all, AHS been great and I've had had really good experiences with them.

I was with American Home Shield for a year, then I dropped them 'cause their prices went up really high. I came back when they gave me a better offer. Chesapeake Comfort Systems recently came out and they fixed everything they were supposed to take care of. The tech was on time, he explained the issue and what he was going to do to fix it. He troubleshot it to be sure there were no other issues, it was done in an expert fashion and I'm very satisfied with the work.

Everything went very well when Mountain Appliance Services came out for an appliance issue. They were very good. They ended up coming out about three or four times before they finally got the thing done, but the refrigerator freezer seems to be working fine. The tech did a very good job. I’m a retired Physician. I’m not much of a mechanic, but what he said makes sense.
I've had American Home Shield for three years and it was easy to get in touch with them. I did call in to see if there was a way to cover my heat pump, and I’m working on that to find out exactly what I need. But everybody has been very good when I’ve been talking to them. The good thing about American Home Shield is I can call them and say, “Hey, this is the problem.” And then they take it from there and arrange an appointment and do all the rest that it saves me much phone calls. Submitting a claim to them seems to be okay. I called in, submitted the claim, I paid the money, then they went ahead and drafted my credit card. And after that, even though they had to come back to the same thing, I didn’t have to do any more payments and I was very happy.

I had an issue with my stove. On the top, where the clock is, it was going totally dark. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was excellent. There was a lady who helped me and she was thorough. The first contractor from GM Appliance Service who came out checked the stove, did some test to see what was wrong, and said they had to order three parts that needed to be put on. It took a little over a week for a different guy to come back out to put those parts on. My stove is working okay now.
I also had called in another claim at the same time for the plumbing, and that went okay too. That was fixed the first day when the plumber came. He had to tighten the little joint around it. And while he was here, he went on and put a small snake down to do the little thing there in my bathroom sink while he was working in it. Over the past few years, the price of American Home Shield has gone up -- when I joined, it was $39 a service call. But, overall, I have gotten good service from this warranty company.

The plumber from Pruitt’s Plumbing showed up when he said he was going to and got the issue fixed. It was a garbage disposal. It worked out well. Submitting claims through American Home Shield was really easy. As a matter of fact, I was surprised at how easy it was. I did it online. It was pretty clean-cut and clear what I needed to do. And then, they called me to confirm it. So, then, I knew I did it right. The customer service at AHS called a couple times. They called after the house was closed on, and then, they kind of explained how the process went and where I could look online to find out what’s covered. And they wanted to let me know that I could purchase a second year, and then, they called me back to confirm that I wanted to do that, so it’s all been good.

I’m going on my second year with AHS. I had them once before but I sold my other house and moved into this house. So, my Realtor gave another home warranty but I didn’t like them, so I left and came back to AHS. When I came back, I noticed that instead of giving my $75, they gave me $100, but I still went ahead. They're better than the one I had. My most recent claim regarding my heating went well. It’s set up and working good.

I had a new thermostat put on by a communications company and I wanted American Home Shield to come out and check to make sure that everything was working properly. The contractor from Doctor Cool was very good and everything checked out great. Every time I’ve called AHS, they’ve been very responsive. I will continue using them and I will tell my daughter about the same thing once her home warranty expires with her brand-new home.

The guy from Alejo Electric was good. He came in and did the work very well and fast. He took care of the outlets. And the tech from the water heater company that came in here was excellent. But the lady on the desk that said she has 15 years of experience, that one was very unprofessional. I had to pay $700 difference for the water heater, and the insurance company is paying $700 also because he had to bring it up to code. The company wanted the money, and I told the lady, “Could you please pull out a permit?” She said no and I said that they should have one because if anything happens, it’s gonna be on the company’s fault, and American Shield is part of it because they hired them and they're all gonna end up getting in trouble. After that, the lady said that if she doesn't get the money, she'll tear the water heater out of our house. I told her that if she does that, I’ll call the police.
I told AHS that they got somebody who was very unprofessional and that lady shouldn’t be talking like that. And then, the AHS customer service lady said that she’s out of it and she told me the gossip which she shouldn’t have because I didn't like that. But then at least, she told me the truth. I was upset about hearing that, so I called and the told the lady that I'm not gonna pay them at all until I get my permit.
I went to the City of Manteca and asked if the water heater company have pulled a permit out and they said no. I said that I’m not gonna pay them and the guy said that that’s the right thing to do. Then I called the state license board and said, “Had the laws changed now? We don’t put permits anymore for water heaters? Because when I was doing projects for the federal government, I had pulled permits out all the time. Is there a new law?" The deputy there said, “No, you’re supposed to put a permit. As soon as you come into the premises, the permit is supposed to be on the wall.”
I called the office of the water heater company back and told them I don’t wanna speak to that lady that was very rude and that I wanna speak to the supervisor. They called me up and the supervisor talked to me. I said, “I just want to let you know about your worker there. I’m willing to pay you your money. I know AHS paid your money already, which is fine, and the technician did a great job. But I wasn’t too happy with your manager there. She said that she was gonna come over here and tear up my water heater because they haven’t got the money, and that’s not the right thing to do.” And the supervisor said, “We don’t do that.”
The supervisor that I was talking to is the owner of the company because I looked his name up on the internet, but he didn’t know I knew who I was talking to. In the end he said, “Don’t worry, we’re getting the permit for you and you could pay me later. Not a problem at all.” So, we solved the problem and everything is fine now. It's just that lady they have in the office is messing up the owner’s business. I told her, “You gotta remember, AHS documented that you have to bring modification up to code, the water heater, and that calls for a permit.”
AHS is in the right. But AHS also has to understand, when they hire somebody like that, they better make sure they’re hiring the right company to make sure they pull the permits because it’s gonna come back to them if something happens because they hired the wrong company. If you do not put a permit in, you get fine for that. You get red tagged. Code enforcement will come in and tag you if there’s no water heater permit. Overall, American Home Shield tried everything and did their part of work.

Surfside Appliance Repair did a great service on my dryer. The tech was quick for the call and he came in a timely amount of time. He was a real nice young man. He had to come back because there was a noise due to something rubbing, but he was able to fix it. I was very pleased with the service. We had a problem with leaking for quite a while until we had all our pipes replaced, which we had to do on our own. But I had quite a bit of problems for a couple of years with that and I always got good service when I called American Home Shield. I didn’t talk to anyone, but I use the phone. I also don’t use the computer but that was not a problem. The people, whoever they contacted, always seem to get back to me, so they must have done that very quickly.
The policy goes up in price every year, but so does everything else. Yet if I had a complaint, that would be it. Still, we’ve used them quite a bit, although nothing major nor have they replaced an appliance. And I’ve been pleased with them, otherwise I wouldn’t still be with them. We've been with them for between 5 and 10 years already. I have also recommended them to a friend and they have gotten American Home Shield.

I didn’t expect much from Epic Air because the reviews for them were poor, even on recent service, when I did a search on them. Apparently, it's human nature to only tell when you have a bad experience and not a good experience. Epic Air was professional and sent out a technician at 8 o’clock the day after we had made our claim with AHS. We missed him, but he turned around and came back. He put on his booties to come into our new house to keep our carpets and floors clean. Moreover, he not only fixed what I thought was our problem, but he also found an additional problem with our outside unit and fixed it as well. I was exceedingly happy with the whole experience.

When I had just bought the house, I put in an order to have it rekeyed. The $75 came right off but it took about a week to hear anything back. The guy that did the work was very confident and I was very happy with him. In the end, it was a positive experience, but if you need something done quickly, that becomes your number one priority. AHS should have been able to have a vendor within 48 hours of when I first contacted them.

I purchased a new home and my real estate agent recommended American Home Shield. Once I understood how their claim process works, it’s fine. I had an issue and I thought I’d go ahead and fix things, and then I would be reimbursed, but that’s not exactly how it works. I called AHS and filed a claim early Friday morning and then the contractors came Saturday morning. They stayed in communication. The guy said he'd take a look and went down the basement. He worked on the furnace and then he came up and said there was some air in the line and it happens, and he got it fixed. And the heating has been doing very well since then. It was good.

We've had an American Home Shield policy for a couple of months. We’ve always had a home warranty, but my husband was doing some research when the last one was expiring and we heard good things about American Home Shield. We checked it out, liked it and we went ahead and got it. To submit a claim to them to get somebody out here to help was easy. It’s just the follow-through that’s not. American Home Shield is a little slow in handling claims. We’ve got two things happening right now that we’re still waiting on. We got an electrical issue and we’ve yet to receive a phone call about that. So, we’re still waiting to find out why nobody is showing up.
We also got a hole in our ceiling from the plumbing issue and we’re still waiting on anything to happen with that, and it has already been three weeks. The contractor they used was excellent. When water is running in your basement, it is no fun. We had to set off all the water in the house until they could get here. So, they were quick on it. They fixed the pipe, but there’s a hole in the ceiling and we’ve been trying to figure out why nobody’s coming to do it. They finally sent us an email and said, “The plumber says that it’s less than an 8x10 hole, so here’s a dollar amount we could send you, and then you can just have somebody fix it yourself.” It’s not an 8x10 hole. There were two 8x10 holes side-by-side. We’ve let them know that. I even took pictures and measurements and sent it too, and I’m still waiting on a response. We don’t know if they’re gonna throw more money so we can get somebody here to fix it, or if they’re still gonna try and fix it.
I wish they'd improve on their follow through. They should keep an eye on the claims that are going on out there. Is anybody following up? Is anybody returning the phone calls? Is anybody going out to do the work? If we don’t keep bugging and saying this is not happening, then nobody’s aware it’s not happening. I understand it’s the holidays and that’s probably got a lot to do with it.

I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. I called in to submit a claim for the toilet and the reps were wonderful. Walston Mechanical called and they scheduled to come about three days after that. They did a wonderful job.

My experience with AHS was easy. I made a phone call. They asked me what the problem was and I told them. They asked me how many rooms or in what areas. Then within a few minutes, I got a phone call from the contractor. He scheduled an appointment. He showed up when he said he was and he was great to work with. We had made a previous call. AHS was gonna send another company out. I looked up the reviews for the other company that was scheduled to show up before I canceled and they had mixed reviews, not so good. So, I was nervous about that. Then our issue started working again, so then I canceled the appointment. Then, it stopped again, so then I called and they assigned this new contractor. I was happy about that and happy with who showed up.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with AHS both here and in Summerville when we've had to use someone and also with my experiences with the one that I have in Whiteville. I took out the policy for my mother's property because my daddy is deceased and momma doesn't know who to call for whatever. My husband and I have a policy with American Home Shield and had been extremely satisfied. So, I said that I was gonna do this and I was gonna be responsible for this. I’m not there all the time but my daughter was there and when she went to turn on the hot water, no water came out. It was that way throughout the whole house.
I called American Home Shield and the serviceman came out. It was determined that a pipe underneath the house had rusted through. Also, the toilets in the house seemed to continue to run, and sometimes, you would have to jiggle the handle. The contractor said it was a two-person job and he also didn't have the precise pieces that he needed to repair the commodes. They came the following day with the extra individual and since then, the hot water issue has been working wonderful. But for the commode issue, they had to order the pieces and it took three weeks. My impression of what he was gonna do was to replace the handles on the commodes but those are the original commodes to the house and the house was built about 1938, which was why he didn't happen to have whatever it was that he needed. He took a picture of each commode and sent it in.
I was not aware that this one particular commode was still having an issue until I went back at Christmas. I was there and my children were both there and one of them came to me and said that the commode was still sticking. The contractors haven’t come back and it slipped my mind to call back and say something about it.
My mother has five commodes in the house, three downstairs and two upstairs. But she’s 94 and she doesn’t go upstairs anymore. She has another commode downstairs that she can use so that's not so bad. The particular commode that is still sticking is the commode that's off at the den. If she happens to be in there and has to suddenly go to the bathroom, then that's the closest one and that's where she's gonna go. She just has to remember to jiggle the handle or if somebody else happens to be there and uses the bathroom, they may not know. So, we just had be aware if somebody uses that commode and hang around to see if he needs to jiggle the handle.

This is our third year with American Home Shield. We had had them before and we were always happy customers so we thought we would do that at our home here. When we had an electrical problem in our home and we couldn’t figure out what was going on, I filed a claim online. It took me a little time navigating their website, but I got there. I got some kind of a notice that I could expect a contractor to be in touch with me within 24 hours. The tech from Sheen Electric called me that evening and he came the next day between the hours that he said he would, and he did a good job. He took out my electrical panel and rewired something electrically. There was a fuse problem too. My issue has been fixed and everything’s fine now.
It is always a pleasure to read positive customer reviews about American Home Shield. I am glad the technician was able to diagnose and fix the issue within a timely manner.

The service of AHS is good. The only thing is that one time they said that I owe $75 and I said, "No, I don't." Because they sent some guy to fix the dryer, but he didn't touch it at all. He said it's the vent. I said, "How are you gonna say the vent? And you didn't even touch it." So I called the company and told them, "I'm not going to pay you. You didn't do anything." I called AHS and told them. So they sent me another guy. I didn't speak a word about it, but they continued to have it as I owe them $75. This is two years ago. But at the end they took it away. They said, "You're right, absolutely, because you said you talked to us." But as far as RG Plumbing & Rooter they did their job. They were very professional and very courteous.

We had an electric issue that took a month or more because the wrong people kept coming out. The problem was the plug was not in the correct place and the people that they were sending out do not do installation of the dishwasher. Twice, contractors came out and then they just said they don’t do it. Eventually, we got the right contractor and everything went well. Everett Service Company came out and we had a good interaction. They were nice and polite, and they took care of everything.

J & M HCP came out on Tuesday to repair some valves on the sink in the big bathroom and on the valves in the laundry. They did a very good job. They are also really nice and very professional, and they know what they’re doing. Everything's been performing very well so far. We had American Home Shield when we first bought the house 20-some years ago, and then our neighbor who’s a realtor talked us back into it. He said, “Did you let that go?” And I said, “Yeah, I guess we did after we put in a new furnace.” He said, “Well, you should be covered.” And so, we redid it.

Pro Tec Plumbing and Drain came out and they fixed a toilet that was leaking. The toilet has been fine ever since. We also had a plumber there for a leak in a shower at one time. But they tried to rip us off. American Home Shield couldn't care less about it and they would continue using this guy. But that’s been our only negative experience so far with AHS. Everything else has been pretty good.

We used to like being able to call in, but it took so long to wait. Now, we do it online and submitting a claim that way is easy. Joshua, the gentleman from Phillips Plumbing Company that came out did a nice job and he was very nice with my husband, explaining everything that we needed to do. We have always had good service with American Home Shield, and he definitely was one of the best as far as the time that he took. He was very nice when he came back the second time. He made sure he cleaned up the floor area after he was done, so it was appreciated. The AHS staff called us when we needed to be told what was happening. They were good. We didn't have to chase after anybody, but sometimes we do.
The only problem that we had was we tried to do a special that was to come out and clean out our heating for $75, and we ended up having to cancel that because we never could get in touch with the company. We even called AHS to see if they could help us, and we weren't ever able to get that special. We ended up having to call them to get our $75 back because it wasn't refunded by the customer service rep that we called. Once we called, they took care of it.

I submitted a claim to AHS because I was not getting any ice in my refrigerator. The motor had gone out. Economy Appliance Heat & Air came out and they replaced a part for me in my refrigerator. So, everything went well.

The heat on one side of my house on the second floor wasn’t working. Wilson HVAC came out and told me what it was and they fixed it. They replaced a zone motor. They had to come back because they had to order a part through American Home Shield. The part took about a week or two, and then they came as soon as the part was in. I also had a claim for my oven when the control panel on it went out. The contractor came out and took a look at it and the control panel was a discontinued part so American Home Shield replaced my oven since they couldn't get the control panel. I got a beautiful, brand new oven and it worked out great. I recommend them very highly for that.
Every claim that we’ve made through American Home Shield, they’ve responded very quickly. They sent out people who were very good, and everything got fixed. The oven was kind of the icing on the cake. The guy knew what the problem was, diagnosed it, and he went back to them and they couldn't find the part, so they got back to me with a replacement model. I got an even better model than the one that was there. So they were very good.

I purchased a home in September. The seller put a warranty plan with them in place for me as part of the sale conditions. My diswhasher was spewing water (day before Christmas when I was to have company!). I set an apt for Friday (day after Christmas). They were going to send Sears out. Technician was supposed to call and let me know a more finite window of arrival. They didn't call (I did). Then they were supposed to call when on their way (they didn't). I had to call them to find out that no, they could not arrive between 3 and 5 but now it was between 5 and 7 (of which I could not make). They were to call me to reschedule. Never called. I called Saturday AM and they are CLOSED! Really? An appliance repair (sears) is closed on the weekend! AHS promised to call them and if they didn't answer by noon, they would schedule another contractor. AHS never called back.
I call on Sunday and get a different rep who states"he can not give me another contractor because 'they have guidelines'" Oh Boy! Now I have to wait until Monday for someone to call me back with another date and time (of which may be difficult because I have to work and of course it's New Years week so who knows? THEY may be closed! but "hey", there are "GUIDELINES". Sheesh. They took my $80 for service....NO SERVICE!!!!

Submitting claims through American Home Shield was very easy and their customer service reps were excellent. They do what they do exactly as advertised.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for over 20 years and at that time, it was what was being offered. Other folks that used it had positive responses with it. The co-pays keep going up every year though. It was $25 and then, they made it $40 and now, it’s $75. But I like that the co-pay is collected through the appointment time rather than relying on the technician to collect it. It used to be that we had to give it to the technician and AHS had to worry about getting the money. The technician probably said that they were not paid but we did, which was why AHS decided to take it out of their hands. That way, the technicians don’t have to handle the money for them. In my claim for the garbage disposal, the contractor discovered that there was a piece of plastic or something that was lodged in the teeth of the disposal. He removed that and went on his way.

When I looked at some home warranties, American Home Shield popped up. I read the reviews on them, I read about them and how it works, and it only cost me $75 per incident, so I just figured that it was best to go with them. My most recent claim was the contractor came out and did something to the fan for the heater so that I can have my heater. Before that, they did something about the motor wheel. It was the same type of wheel that goes for the heater. And when they came out in the summer, they fixed the AC. And then, when it got cold, I turned on my heater and it was doing the same thing, so the contractor came back and fixed it. I felt like it was part of the same claim, but I had to pay $75 to Home Shield for the contractor to come back out and re-fix that so I can have heat, because I went without heat for about a week and a half.
I just called American Home Shield and they set up a claim, a request to come out, and then next thing you know, I got a call from Advanced Heating, and went on from there. The guy came out, he fixed the issue, and he said that I had to replace the part. He took the part number and the serial number, and boom, he came back in two or three days and he replaced it. It's functioning good. There's not no new part the guy put in. I'm getting heat and it's not making no loud noise like it was at first and then it finally went out. But I'm getting heat and it's not real loud, but it's just a little hum. The guy said that it's gonna do that, a little rattling. So, I left it at that.
I'm still with Home Shield. I'm still paying them. I would recommend it to somebody because everybody needs some kind of help with their home. When I call them, they get on the ball. When I'm dealing with them, I feel like my money is not being wasted. I might have to call them again. I got a heating element in my water heater that is not functioning properly.

When I have a claim, I call American Shield on the phone, and then they turn around and they give me their number to the people that’s gonna be contacting me. As soon as they contact their people, they hung up, and they call me back in less than five minutes. For my claim, American Home Shield kept looking until they found somebody. They didn’t give up. They also give you an opportunity to use your own people with an approval if they couldn’t find anybody in a timely manner. They've sent out North Pulaski and they were good. When they said they were gonna be out here at a certain time, they showed up on time. They were friendly and professional.

My daughter had good service with American Home Shield. We also got them and we've been with them for about three years. The service has been fine. I’m satisfied. We had a latest claim where someone from A-US Air Conditioning came out. The service was okay and the first time he come out, he fixed the problem.

This issue took us six months to resolve. We started out in July to report it but then the original contractor, Cool & Cozy, kept coming and saying it was this thing or that thing. Weeks would go by and when we called, we couldn’t get through to anybody. At one point, we called for an update and a lady basically hung up on us. They did a couple of visits and claimed they were on top of it. But after I paid the original fee, they didn’t seem to come back anymore. So they were the ones that kept extending this problem out because they weren’t taking any action on it. When we figured there was a problem gonna be with getting this resolved, we called American Home Shield and they reassigned the claim to In Your Home Services. Every time we called American Home Shield for an update or to report what we perceive to be a problem, they've taken care of everything for us.
In Your Home Services came out and they finished up on a Sunday. I hate to see anybody who may have the weekends off get stuck with working on the weekends but they called back. It was up to them. They could’ve come on a Monday if they wanted to. But apparently, their opportunity to get it finished was a Sunday. Aside from that, they also called us and kept in touch with us throughout the process. There were a couple of times where a part didn’t show up or there was something that they had to cancel at the last minute. But otherwise, they showed up when they said they’d be here. We have pets here at the house so Clayton, the technician, would call us in advance and we made sure to get our pets settled down and out of their way. That worked out really well.
We have a central air natural gas furnace combination. It’s all in one system and naturally, it uses the same duct work depending on which season and which part of the system is operating then. So Clayton originally started out on the central air and had that resolved, he thought. But then he ran into a problem with the furnace motor. It operates both the central air and the furnace system and the more he got to resolving the central air, the more he realized the furnace was gonna need attention. The one motor was basically going out on us. So that’s what prompted the replacement of the second half of the unit, which is all resolved now. It’s been operating fine ever since.
Apparently, they basically replaced the whole unit. When we realized how deep the problem might be with this unit, we made inquiries here where we live, and to replace that unit would’ve cost us somewhere in the area of $6,500. To get it resolved through American Home Shield and In Your Home, that cost us about $1,300. So we saved like 80% on the cost of having a fairly new functioning unit up here now. That saved us a lot of money.

We had a problem with the air conditioner. I called AHS and they dispatched Perry Mechanical. They were very helpful, very thorough and very concise. There was really no problem. It was a misunderstanding on my part because of the change in temperature, and there was frost on the air conditioner, but that was normal. So, they just did a service check and everything was good.

I compared a few of those warranties and I found the kind of comprehensive services that American Home Shield provides is good for my needs, and the price was fine as well. They sent Emelson when I had a plumbing issue and the experience was good. The problem that I was having was fixed, and it was fixed in a reasonable time, so I was fine with that service. Emelson had like two teams. When the first team came, they did the inspection to identify the issue. And after that, they made a recommendation to the insurance company and then the repair guys came on. That was pretty smooth, so I didn't have an issue.
I had to pay from out of pocket myself for quite a big amount, so that was a little surprise to me because they mentioned customization is not covered. So I didn't really paid attention to that. That would be so huge. So, I was expecting that there is some installation that is part of the package, part of the insurance, then the customization comes with the installation. You cannot install a new water heater without doing customization, so why separate the customization from the installation part? So I had this issue, but since I needed this at that time, I went ahead and paid out of pocket expenses for that. American Home Shield is respective of out of pocket expenses. But their service was fast and courteous, and the people who came to perform the service were really cooperative and didn't take too long.

The commode was running, it would not stop, and so I had to get that fixed. Submitting the claim online to American Home Shield was good. The next day, Action Plumbing was sent out. The contractors were nice and polite. They were fast and they told me what they were doing. They tried to keep the area clean, too. Everything has been doing fine since the repair.

I always call in to submit claims and it's pretty easy. I like speaking with a person. I had a claim for the AC and All Comfort came out. The tech gave me an estimate of what needs to be done and the AC needed to be replaced. Yesterday, I just called on my fireplace because it's not working right and I assumed that it was covered, but I found out that it wasn't. I have to search for another person to come and look at it and pay out a fee for them to come out and then pay a fee for the payment. I would like for Home Shield to add or see if there's a possibility to add a fireplace onto the policy. Also, I hope that the rate to come out doesn't increase anymore. It's been constantly increasing. It's up to $75. I hope they keep that at a steady rate instead of having to be surprised with the increase.

My primary home and my rental property have been covered by AHS for six to eight years. Recently, the refrigerator broke down and a claim was submitted on my behalf. We waited with the refrigerator down for a week as AHS' contractor, AG Appliance Repair got the new thermostat. The part was then brought in and the refrigerator was back in service after they replaced the thermostat. AG's service was very good. They always called us and gave us the status of the claim. Things have been excellent since they came out. I'm used to making phone calls but then submitting my requests online to AHS has worked out for me. It’s very straightforward and it isn't a burden. AHS' service is easily accessible. They give timely responses and good service.

Before I had American Home Shield, I was with another company that had terrible customer service. I'm happy that they're very responsive to my needs. I usually submit my claims online and I get a text message pretty quickly after I submitted it. When my pool filter was making a noise, Allen's came out and I have worked with them before. After we filed the claim, the Sears technician came and they had everything to repair the dishwasher. He was very professional and we couldn't ask for anybody better. It was a one-visit repair and everything was excellent. The warranty came with the house when we bought it. But prior to that, we've also had American Home Shield in our previous home for about 8 years. Like everything else, it's insurance and we can have a peace of mind. I don't wanna have some repairs pop up and I would go, "Oh, wow, I should have had." It’s just having the security of knowing that these things are covered. And it's worth the money to have that little bit of insurance.

When I called the contractor AHS sent out for my heater, they had a few questions. For some reason, it says in their file that the heater was outside the house. It was raining here in Vegas so they said they'd come the next day. But when I explained that the heater was inside in the attic, they sent a person within an hour. When you try to get the heater's temperature to 70, the heater would go up to 70, but after that, it doesn't keep the temperature to what you want. The tech who came out said that he needed to clean something in the heater machine and it was completely done. He was amazing.

Secure Home Locksmith & Safety Services came out for rekeying. It was a really good visit. He was prompt and handled everything, and cleaned up after himself. Submitting the claim to AHS was easy. I had called originally with questions to try to figure out how to get started and I may have done part of it on the app. The representative I was able to speak with was good. The technician from Reliable Appliance called very quickly after the request was made on Sunday. He called first thing Monday morning and then, he followed through with everything. Premium One Plumbing came out last week and they didn't find any gas leak, which was the problem. But the gas company found the gas leak, so I’m not sure yet who’s correct. I have to call back and see what's going on. American Home Shield needs to pick better vendors.

AHS sent Terminix and the tech was very, very nice, on time and very knowledgeable. I also had someone come out through AHS for the electric, but he apparently couldn’t help me. He knew what the problem was, but he didn’t wanna fix it. I said the light switches were not supplying any electricity to the lights so he came out and said there was electricity in them. He measured it and said the people didn’t connect the wires right or something like that. But he never did anything about it. So I told him it was a waste of time because it cost me $75 for him to come out and hold the meter up and say, “Yeah, the electric is working in here.” I wasn’t happy with that. But I guess I need to be much more specific when I call an electrician out.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was very simple. The person I talked to on the phone was very nice about everything and very helpful. He got the ball rolling and I was very impressed. Their tech from RK Plumbing Heating & Cooling came and found that the issue was a little igniter. That solved the problem and the water heater is working. He was very efficient. My claim started out a little bit bad because the contractor that AHS initially recommended was not available until the following Thursday, which was four or five days later. I called AHS back and they sent Romano. Romano was excellent. They came out the same day. They looked it over, analyzed it, ordered the part and came back the next day and fixed it. I was real pleased with them. It worked out good.

I called American Home Shield and the person I dealt with made the appointment for me. The guy from Pruitt's Plumbing said that they would be here in about 10 minutes, and then right after that, they called me and said that they were on their way. He came out to take out the water saver in the faucet because I had no pressure, and the service performed was excellent.

We were having an issue with our furnace and American Home Shield sent out Comfort First Heating & Cooling to take a look at it. The tech came out within 24 hours and we had a good interaction with him. It wasn't an emergency item and they got it resolved. It took them a couple of trips out to check because they thought they had resolved it. Issues kept happening, and so they sent someone else out to take a deeper look at it. Now, it's working. Everything went as I expected.

My heater kept going over and over again. At first, I thought the sensor was dirty but the contractor ended up having to replace a part. Since they did that, everything has been working fine. I have been with American Home Shield for about five years and I've had other claims with them. I've had to call for an electrician and a contractor of theirs have had to come out with regards to my air conditioning too.

One time, there was a problem with my LG Refrigerator which had to do with the ice dispenser unit on its front door. I reported the claim online to American Home Shield and they sent me an email saying that they've assigned my claim to an appliance company. That company ultimately had to reassign it to Sears because they didn't do LG products. Things went well with the repair from Sears. Their service tech was excellent. She figured out what was wrong. They had to order a part and she came back out when the part was shipped to me and she put it in. Now, everything is fine. I'm very satisfied with AHS.

American Home Shield has been my home warranty provider for about 18 years now. Most of the time, when I call up to get things done, I don’t have an issue with them. They basically get somebody down here to get some of the stuff that I need to get done fixed. They sent out Alvarez Plumbing Services for my most recent claim and it went great. They came on time, explained to me what was wrong with the problem, and fixed it. The two guys were very professional and got the job done.

We had a noise coming from our double-door refrigerator and it sounded like it was coming from the fan. So, we called AHS the next day and they assigned the appliance repair company. They said that the contractor company would be in touch within 24 to 48 hours. And the contractors came out and they found that there was a loose plastic part in the fan that was broken, and so they replaced that and that solved the problem. This particular claim was fast and efficient and it resolved the issue. Everything was good.

Everything went well when Stepan's AC and Heating was sent out for my water heater. They fixed the problem with my water heater that had stopped leaking and I now have hot water again. The tech can work on his people skills, though. He wasn't rude but he was very short and he just gets to the point sort of thing. Maybe he was having a bad day but it seemed that he wasn't in a mood to talk. Still, he was very quick. He was here before 8:00 AM so he waited outside until it was 8:00 to knock on my door, which was great. And then he was out within 20 minutes, so it was a quick fix. Everything's been good so far. I had two incidents filed with AHS and both had been fixed.

I made a claim close to the holidays for the heater and air conditioning that wouldn’t change temperature and the contractor was busy. It took them four days before they came out but we were fine with it. We just made do for a little bit and when the guy came, we conversed and it was very pleasant. He saw exactly what we intended and what was wrong and he took care of the issue. He fixed our thermostat. He just disconnected two wires, connected them, and tested it. It was very simple.

AUS Air Conditioning was here and they were great. They were on time and professional. I would recommend them to anybody. American Home Shield has been good as well and they’ve replaced a few things already. However, we’ve been out of hot water for two months now. They sent a guy out here and he did a bad job but they didn’t want to replace the people until I just threw a fit and go, “Look, they’re not coming out. The guy refused to come back out.” And then the second company refused to come back out and the rep goes, “Danny, it might be you.” I went, ‘Well, then I would ask the other three companies that had already been out here.” She called me back and said, “Well, it’s not you.” AHS needs to listen to the customers more, so that they think their customer is not lying to them.

My wife called AHS one day and told them what we needed. A guy from Astro Appliance called. Service wasn't as quick as we thought it would be but the tech from there came out and we told him what was wrong with our appliance. He told us that we needed to defrost it. Astro was competent and professional. AHS has done well for us overall.

The oven and the broiler would not work. Sears came in and they got a part locally, but they had to send somebody to get the part here. While waiting for a part, the contractor went on another job. When he came back, he did the job in half a day. I had an excellent service and it went great. This is my second year on American Home Shield's service. I've also had American Home Shield on another house. I recommended to both of my daughters to buy it, too. Having it gives you a little bit of sense of security. It makes it nice not to have an unexpected large expense for something that might break down.

When the motor was bad in our heating unit and was making a squealing noise like the bearings were going out, AHS set us up with JJ's Fire & Ice. The tech was supposed to come out on New Year's Eve, but he called on Sunday and said he had some free time. He said that if we were home, he'd come and fix the motor. We said to come on out and he did. He was very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. He changed the motor out and now, everything has been working fine.

AHS has been very good, but sometimes they get some bad contractors and they quickly get over them. Within the last year or so, I have started getting problems with the contractors they have. I will not allow Express Air Conditioning & Heating to come to my house. They took over three months to do a compressor and they wanted me to pay for a platform. They charged me $250 for a permit which the City of New Orleans only charged $50 for. It was very bad and unprofessional. I fought them on it. The inspector said I didn’t have to pay for the platform. He said that when he first did my house and the platform, he gave me approval on it, and it’s still approved. Also, I’m still in the process of trying to get my $200 for that permit I was charged for. I informed AHS to never send them to my house again.
When my dryer was not running, the contractor AHS first sent took approximately four weeks to get the parts together. When I called and asked them what was going on, they didn’t even know they sent out four different people to find out what was going on. But when Express Appliance came in, it was very simple. The tech said I didn't need a new part. He went to the back of my dryer and put a fuse in and that was it. He also ordered the parts for my refrigerator. He said that it came in on the 14th and he came out on the 16th to put it in. It didn't even take a week with Express Appliance. They did very good on both jobs. AHS should keep them.
AHS has all these things that they don’t pay for. I don’t think I should have had to pay for what Express Heating wanted to charge. That’s what I got my contract for. I was also charged $2,800 for the purchase of the Freon for my air conditioning. I said, that that was crazy. AHS should be helping their customers much better especially with all these additives that their contractors add.

The people that I bought the place from didn’t take good care of it, so I had several contractors come out. I've been with AHS for about two years and have had good luck with them. I usually submit claims online but sometimes, it won’t take it so I have to call it in. The first technician from Appliance Doctors who came out didn't speak English and was very hard to understand, but the second one was pretty good. They came out within 24 hours, but they had to order a water pump for my washer. I was without a washer for two weeks. I would like to have the parts ordered on time. Two weeks without a washer is a long time. But I had a light load ‘cause I wasn’t working. Usually, I have six loads and taking the laundry to the laundromat with six loads is a lot. Other than that, Appliance Doctors had been really good.

SAP didn't fix anything. They came out supposedly to fix a leaking pipe. It was in a wall, but the way you go through it, it was right at the top of the attic. It was a real easy fix. If I had the part and tools, I pretty much could do it myself. The guy looked at it, then he looked at something else. He said, "It was the board on top." Then he said, "I'll have to do several modifications." I asked him, "Why would you have to do a lot of modifications?" He said, "We have to move something out of the way." It was gonna be a lot of work, the way he was saying it. Basically, he was gonna tear the whole thing up. But I looked at him like, "It shouldn't have to be. Now that we identified where the leak is, it's not like it's a tiny fit. I'm bigger than you, and I can get my hands under there."
At that point, he walked up the attic and I walked up there with him, following him to see what's what. Went to his vehicle, then he came back in and said, "Your bill is gonna be 325. It was really almost 500, but American Home Shield paid 100 and some, so it went down." I was like, "No, we're not doing that. Let me think about that." He said, "They're not gonna pay for it because they called it in." I said, "You know today is Saturday, right?" "Yeah, today is Saturday." I said, "So, they approved or disapproved everything on a Saturday?" "Yeah, they approved it. Only thing I can do is tell you the price and just let me know if we can get it done Sunday."
So, I said, "Okay. Go ahead and schedule me Sunday," thinking that they would go ahead and get it approved over the weekend. Next thing I knew, SAP called me later that Saturday when the guy left, and the lady on the phone named Rose was very disrespectful. She was very sly and not truthful upfront. She got on the phone and said, "Your home warranty just told me they denied the claim and that you gotta pay 325." I said, "The guy just left out of here. He just told me that it was $325, so what does the home warranty pay?" "Your home warranty will pay nothing because they say it's a modification." I said, "Modifications for what?" "Your technician took pictures. He wrote it up, so it's gonna be a modification." It seemed like it was gonna be a million different things he had to do.
I said, "No, if you know it, it shouldn't be." And she was like, "Your home warranty denied it already." All this was happening Saturday. She said, "We'll just come out there Sunday. He has to go do a gas leak first and then he'll come to your house to fix the water leak."I said, "Okay. No problem." After that, it still seemed strange. I said, "Let me call me somebody else to come give me a second opinion." I called Rooters who came out here. Went upstairs and looked at it, and they found exactly what was going on. The guy said he could fix it in less than 30 minutes. The price of it with no modifications was 230 some odd dollars. After he told me that, I waited to hear back from SAP. Sunday came around and I called that morning, and I canceled my appointment with SAP.
I called American Home Shield and I said, "Something is not right. I'm being told that a guy gotta do several modifications to fix a water leak." The rep said, "They said it's a gas leak." I said, "I don't have a gas leak in my house. It's a water leak." They said, "No. Rose said it's a gas leak." So, I said, "Put me on hold." He said, "No, sir. Hold on. You're the customer. We know you called in about a water leak. Let us find out what's going on." So, he put me on hold the first time. They called over there to speak to SAP, and the lady on the phone said it was a gas leak. I called and said, "Rose, why are you telling people it's a gas leak? You're lying on the phone!" She said, "I'm sorry. I thought it was!" I said, "You lied! I have water in my roof and I need to get this taken care of!"
After that, I had to hang up. During the time I was on hold, I was on hold for about 45 minutes. Then I called back and as I called back this time, I was on the phone for another hour. American Home Shield found out, "It's Sunday. They just put the order in so it can get approved." I said, "Wait a minute. So, you're saying the order was never approved?" "No, it was never approved." I said, "Rose told me that you guys already denied it!" They said, "No, nothing was denied and nothing was approved!" I said, "Let me get just another vendor out here. I don't wanna deal with SAP." It was a long back and forth mess, where one lady was lying to me. She was extremely unprofessional. American Home Shield should step in more. I was not happy with the way they handled this whole situation.

A Plus Appliance came out to see if my my washing machine was repairable. The washing machine was only six years old. Initially, they took a picture of the serial number, but the serial number on the machine had worn away and they couldn’t figure out what the serial number was. They ordered a part and told me that the part would take a week to 10 days to come in. So I waited, and then when they came back with the part and installed it, it didn’t work. They said that there were seven other options that they could go through. So at that point, American Home Shield just decided to replace the machine.
From the time that they determined it was gonna be replaced, the process was so quick. American Home Shield got on it right away. The day after, they called me and told me to expect an email, and I got it the next morning. It gave me an opportunity to select the kind of washing machine that I needed or wanted. It gave me lots of options, and then I ordered it. The very next morning, they said that it would be delivered by J.B. Hunt and I would be hearing from them. And that was when the whole process slowed down. J.B. Hunt had phone numbers that weren’t working and it was very difficult trying to set up a convenient time with them to deliver it. But overall, American Home Shield’s process was fantastic.

This is my first claim in nearly 4 years. My local appliance store quoted 4 days and $400 to repair the oven. However, I remembered that I had a home warranty, cancelled the repair, and contacted AHS to schedule an appointment. My AHS contractor delayed in scheduling an appointment and ordering parts. He has not returned any of my calls, texts, or voicemails. I call at least once per week, and have been forced to contact AHS to determine the status of the repairs multiple times.
AHS is aware that I am upset with their service, but nonetheless decided to ship the necessary parts cheaply instead of utilizing some sort of expedited service. Parts were not ordered for almost one month after the original contact date, and took over one week to arrive from the east coast - they arrived today and their contractor does not work weekends. I am fairly certain that the oven will still be inoperable as of 2020, and I initiated contact with AHS November 15th, 2019. I am 100% dissatisfied and will almost certainly cancel service when the repair is complete. This is completely unacceptable, and this will not be the last time AHS hears from me.

AHS sent electrician out to my home for HVAC issue. Electrician installed electric box that caught fire. AHS has been giving me the run around for over a month now. I have filed a complaint with BBB and am in the process of obtaining an attorney. I have documented every action and inaction along with names. I have been lied to constantly. The electrical co. that is suppose do the work has cancelled appointments and AHS is not taking this serious. As of today I still have a potential electrical hazard at my home so I am nervous every time I leave my house. Now supervisors are refusing to take my calls because they dont want their name attached to this issue because they know they are wrong.

Called in the problem, paid the $125 fee, they gave me the name of a local contractor who would not contact me, I called him and he never answered any of my calls. I went to his house (I know the contractor small town). He wouldn't answer the door. His work truck was outside his house. Contacted AHS and was told they didn't have another contractor. This was March 2019. I asked for my $125 fee to be returned 3 times now and was assured it was "in the mail." Lost out on $125, problem never fixed. Worst company I've ever felt with. Beware!!

I’ve used American Home Shield a couple of times, and it worked out. They're doing okay. I had put down a claim for two leaks. One was a pipe, and Prime Plumbing Services fixed that, but I thought they would go do the second leak. It was outside. It was my sprinkler system.

The contractor was fantastically good. The mechanic that came out to diagnose what seemed to be going on with the problem spent a great deal of time but was persistently trying to look at different aspects of that system and discovered two issues that had not been discovered before. It needed a part and they came back very quickly considering these people are 50 miles away or so. They needed to schedule it on the day they were gonna have several calls up here. They made it happen very quickly. It was not a week apart. They got here on a Friday and I called them back on Monday. I told them I was extremely happy because for the first time in six weeks, we had heat in our house. So, I can’t say enough good about the tenaciousness, the thoughtfulness and the methodical thinking through all the processes that could have been causing the trouble. This company did a wonderful job.
I had to call several times about the dishwasher and I had to call the outfit that handles the replacement of equipment and their recording was saying that they were experiencing unusually high call volume and they were doing what we could to take care of it. The recording never changed. If American Home Shield is having that much trouble, they should hire some more people. An hour to wait on the phone to get a hold of somebody is ridiculous. The call center people was a toss-up as to whether they were going to be understandable. Their script book was usually good, but the quality of the interaction was poor. I’m hard of hearing and from the customer’s point of view, sometimes it’s a hassle, and sometimes the call waiting is outrageous but once I got a hold of somebody, I was almost always satisfied with the response I got.

I’m paying the premium every month and it’s nice to know when my air compressor breaks and the whole thing falls apart, American Home Shield is gonna help me. We had a little problem with the first vendor, but the last person was great. All American Cooling fixed the problem in about an hour and 10 minutes, and they were amazing.

We didn’t really use AHS that much, and they refused one call. But they fixed the other call. They took long to answer the phones and get back to me. But their contractor, Foster's Appliance, provided good service.

Two things had occurred in my refrigerator. Inside, between the freezer compartment and the refrigerator compartment, was getting extremely hot. I called about that and Hornet Appliance was sent out within 48 hours, which was fairly quickly. The technician was very good and I was told, technically, the fan is not cooling the compressor so it’s causing it to heat up. They had to order a part and come back and another guy came out and installed it. He was good too but I didn’t interact with him very much. Beginning to end, it took about five days. I’ve also had 2 other claims and I’ve been extremely satisfied.

The people that American Home Shield sent out for the job were very professional and they knew what they were doing. They had knowledge of the product so I'm satisfied. I've been in the program about a year and this is my second call out, and both times were satisfactory. I made one phone call to AHS, told them what it was about, and got a call back saying when they would be out here, that a tech would call when they’re on their way. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out and did a good job. The technician located the problem, he fixed it very promptly, and then explained to me what he did.

Cutting Edge Total Comfort came out and replaced a piece that they thought was the issue, and then two weeks later, the whole control board crashed. So both times, I was experiencing the same issue. I read a bunch of their reviews online and being that I’m with American Home Shield, you can't get to pick your contractor. I was very skeptical of their service because they didn’t really have any good reviews. There is one or two good reviews out of a whole slew of reviews, so I was very skeptical but they seemed to do all right. They came out within 24 hours of being scheduled. They came within their time frame, and the tech diagnosed the issue. It was a gas Forsaire furnace. What he originally replaced was the thermocouple and then it ended up being the whole electrical board.
I’ve only been with American Home Shield for about six months, and now I’m getting leery of them too there because I had a couple people suggest them as good home warranty, but now my in-laws are having a big problem with them and my other buddy is having an issue with them, so I’m like, “Oh, no.” AHS was a recommendation. My house is not old and my appliances are all newer appliances, but I wanted that peace of mind. You either pay for a service like that or get ready to spend three grands here or there. But I thought AHS would be a good choice. So far, I’ve only had one claim, and it worked out. It was a $150 and it was over a $1,000 worth of repair.

My furnace was running, then it would stop blowing cool air. It wouldn’t operate once I have it in a auto position. So I called American Home Shield like I always do. Rush Heating & Cooling was able to resolve the issue. And I was satisfied with the interaction I've had with them. They were professional and courteous. I’ve had AHS for several years now. They were referred by a friend. I’ve used them a few times, and it hasn’t been a unpleasant experience. It’s good to have it.

Choice Plumbing Heating and AC came out for a plumbing issue and that clam was excellent. The plumber did a wonderful job. He knew exactly what to do. He was there, in and out in less than an hour, and everything was working when he left. Their claims process was a little difficult though. I paid with my credit card, initially, through the automated line and then it transferred me to a customer care person and it showed no record that I had just made a payment. So, that was a little frustrating.

The guy came in and put a new faucet that goes from the wall to the bottom of the toilet and it was leaking. So, I put a new one of those on but he said it was good and he left, and it was still leaking. I called him and he came right back and fixed it. That time, he said that he was gonna get rid of the one that was on the toilet and put a new one on and it worked great. The claim went good, and he was nice and very polite.
I've been with American Home Shield since about 2007. When I got divorced from my husband, I was all by myself and so I picked it up and I've had it ever since. It's great for a single woman who doesn't know any contractors. It's like taking your car to the dealer. You don't know if it's really on the up and up or not. With American Home Shield, I pay a monthly payment every month and then, my service fee is $75. It gives me peace of mind to know that this is all taken care of. When I need to have something done, I just call them. They make an appointment for me, they come out, everybody takes care of what they're supposed to do and it's amazing. The contractors have always been very professional and gentlemen. They do the work and they do a great job.
I have talked to my boyfriend who has got stuff wrong with his house. I told him that if he did American Home Shield, they would come in and fix stuff for him but he doesn't wanna spend the money. He refuses to do it so when everything breaks, I would tell him that AHS could’ve fixed it. It just goes on and it's broke and he never fixes it. I work at a school and I told people time and again how great AHS is and that they’re a lifesaver. I just call them, they have the vendor come out, fix the problem, and go on their merry way. Everybody that they've got has been so polite to me and a lot of them know me because I've been with them for so many years that they just know when they come to my house.

We had a plumbing issue. We submitted a claim to AHS and they sent Discount Contractors out. I called on a weekend but they don’t open on the weekend, so they came that Monday. They called me before they came. They came and did the work on the toilets. They handled it very well. The guy knew what he was doing and he got to it. He was very professional. He had the parts with him in his truck and he took care of that.
However, last time when they fixed my heater, my heater didn’t work that well. It heated all right but then all of a sudden, my heat was not doing right back. The house would get cold at 12 o’clock at night, and then I have to go downstairs and turn the furnace back up. Also, when they came out to fix the furnace, it took them four days. And then they ordered parts, but then they realized it was not in the warehouse, so I had to wait two more days for that. And my house was cold. I told them they should’ve checked it. But in the long run, they did fix it. I’m satisfied with them. Although, I have to call them back out here to look at it again. I also don’t know if AHS is gonna double-charge me for that.

I recently purchased my home and American Home Shield's the insurance that I have for the first year coverage just in case something happens. I pulled out my documents and gave them a call because I was not getting any hot water. The level where I could turn the showers from hot to cold stopped in the middle. I had a previous plumber come to my house two days before who told me that there was something wrong with the pipes inside the wall and I paid them. It was just a mess. On the other hand, the guy from Rockland Plumbing was here within an hour after I called in a claim with AHS and I was shocked. He came out to adjust the valve of my showers. He was very nice and personable. He had the job done in two bathrooms in less than five minutes. It was a super easy fix and I just paid the $100 deductible. It was an excellent job and I was completely satisfied.

We’ve submitted claims both on the phone and online and both ways came out good. The first few times, we did it strictly by telephone, but then we started doing it online and American Home Shield responded fast. The drains and the sinks were backed up and I called Keeton Plumbing late Friday so they weren’t able to get there that late in the afternoon. They were there on Monday, which was the next business day and they also called to tell us what was going on.
The service was for my 93-year old mother and they took the time to explain to her why the thing was blocked up and what they were doing, each and every moment. My mom is hard of hearing, and so we had to have somebody next door to make sure to open the door when they were there. She was very pleased with how courteous everybody was. They were very nice and she said high praise for them. Aside from my home and my mom's home, we also have AHS on my son’s home, and between the three houses, I have been with them for five years.

I had a request a couple of weeks ago and American Home Shield couldn’t find the part anywhere to fix it, so they’re gonna replace the oven. I called them to see where they looked, and I found that they only buy from certain companies. The challenge I’m having is I have an upgraded oven and they want to give me a GE, and I’d like for them to find the part. I have a Fisher & Paykel and it’s brand-new, and they won’t replace it with the same quality. My wife isn't happy with that. I’m trying to find something that will work but it’s gonna cost me a lot of money to upgrade it. They’re willing to give me $1,300 but I can’t replace an oven for that with the same quality. Nonetheless, the technician that came out was great. He knew what the problem was and figured it out real fast. He was very polite and nice.

I have had to use American Home Shield's service twice, and so far, it has been really good. I had some issues with outlets on our front porch and a bathroom fan that was not working. The electrician that came out got all of that in working order. I was really uncomfortable because nobody could come out with me that day, and I don't like being home alone with a male coming. But he was very professional and he kept his distance. He explained to me what the problems were and what he did to fix them. I felt like he did a really good job because I didn't feel uncomfortable at all.

When the faucet was leaking, I initially went online, but I ended up having to call because my contract number had changed and I had not received it so I was putting in the incorrect contract number. We had some work where I was not satisfied with what I was being told. Things weren't being explained to me correctly or I was misunderstanding why they could come out for a leaking sink, but not a clogged one. They put it in terms where they had to put in a call for the leak, not the clogged sink because it wasn't covered.
The guy was very knowledgeable and polite though. He was also very nice and on time. He called us to let us know that he had finished someone early and wanted to know if it was possible he could come on to us, which was no problem. I said that I would be at home and what time I would be at home. I was thankful that he was able to meet me at the house around the time that I was gonna be home The first time he came, he didn't have the proper tool he needed to unclog the drain, but when he came back out to replace the faucet, he did it then. The faucet was also replaced. Other than a language barrier problem, I'm satisfied with the service and the warranty that I've been getting from AHS.

The process was smooth and it went like clockwork. They sent out a guy from Steve Rodgers Locksmithing the next day, and he was a lot of fun and very personable. We ended up getting four keys because we had two locks changed.

It's very hard to get a hold of people through Home Shield. When you call, you don’t get a person. They have you on hold for hours and hours trying to get to the next representative. If I call in the wee hours of the morning, sometimes I could get a person, but then the person who they say they are gonna send doesn’t show up. One time, the person who they assigned didn’t show up, but I got charged for them coming. I had to get someone on my own, but they did reimburse me. The people that come out to do the work have been professional. My boiler was doing mini-explosions and the heat was getting too much gas and was shutting off. Horner Heating came out and said the emission thing was filling up, so they put some new parts on it. The tech was a young man and he knew what he was doing, he went right to it and got it done.
I still appreciate American Home Shield even if I can't get through all the time because had it not been for having a warranty through them, I wouldn’t be able to afford this stuff anymore. They are good for covering the product warranty. They've taken pretty good care of me for the last 20 years that I've had them. I would recommend them to others for home warranties, especially new beginners who may have appliances that they're just starting or have had for five years or so, before their warranties wear off. So, in their future, their cost to repair won't be as much.

When I had to contact AHS for the heating element, they had somebody come right out the next day. When I was with another company, it would take about two to three days. So AHS was on the ball. The techs were courteous and professional about everything. When they came out, I smelled an element smell. They said there was nothing they could do with the smell. But they did what they had to do and they told me. I had to go try to get some deodorizer from Home Depot and put inside the air handling unit to kill the smell. Every now and then, I smell an element smell on the stove..

I have a claim and the contractor I got was really bad. With another I experience I have though, the all-around experience was excellent. My furnace wasn't heating enough one day. I also tried the easy though it was very cold and it didn't seem to be working as well. I called AHS and they sent RR HVAC. The tech was right on time. The service RR provided was exceptional. They were accurate and honest. Everything has been working fine so far.

There was a time when we would leave our place and try to hit the garage door with the remote but then we couldn't get it to close. We submitted a claim to AHS and they sent Ace’s Garage Door & Repair. The tech was supposed to be at the house between noon and 4:00 and he didn’t show up ’til after 5:30, which was okay because I work and stop at 4:00. But, I had made arrangements for someone else to let him in and that didn’t happen. Also, I don’t know what he did because he was gone before I ever talked to him. My roommate said that the tech took off and I thought that was a little weird.
I haven’t had a good experience with AHS other than for my garbage disposal. They fixed my garbage disposal quickly and it works perfectly now. With my last experience with AHS, the lights were flickering in my house. I have my electricity covered so when their guy came out he saw that my fuse box was sparking. He moved a couple of the things around and while it stopped sparking, the lights are still flickering. I can’t get AHS to come out and fix that.
AHS should actually provide service. They charge us $75 any time we call and need something done. My electricity cost me $75 twice because they never fixed it the first time. It cost me $75 to have someone come out to fix the garage door. My warranty renewed in December and I paid $500 and something for it. I haven't looked in on whether they'll give me my money back. But still, I'm looking at different warranty companies.

There was no heat in our furnace. I called American Home Shield and they sent United Air Temp. The guy that came out was really nice. He was excellent. I used to go through Appleton and I got rid of them because their receptionist was extremely rude and they were overpriced. So far, everything has been fine with AHS. We had a new Amana put in. Since they credited us stuff on our furnace, that was good for me. Because if we don’t get help with the furnace, there's no point having a home warranty.

I log into the website when I submit claims, I choose what service I need, and I book it through there. Then I get texts with the information of who’s coming. They also call me and give me the time or work out a time of when the contractor would come out. In my most recent claim, someone contacted me about 3 days after I submitted the claim but that was just because it was close to the holidays. Express Appliance Services came out to service the refrigerator which was purchased brand-new with the home last year. And we had to call the service twice because there was a problem with the Freon.
The technician was very good and efficient. He got everything up and running the same day. It probably took about an hour, and it was just mostly ‘cause they needed to refill the Freon which was what took the longest. But he was very knowledgeable and he knew exactly what was going on. He also advised that there is a possibility that it will continue happening. He was very forthcoming with that. So, as of right now, I’m very pleased with American Home Shield. We were very happy that we actually renewed after the seller purchased the warranty for us. I have all good results with them so far.

My air conditioning unit wasn't producing cold air one time so I submitted a claim online through my American Home Shield account. Navigating their site was easy and straightforward. As soon as I submitted a claim they sent me a text that said that I would be contacted within 24 hours. I was satisfied by the service rendered by Island Breeze HVAC LLC which was sent by AHS. Their tech was able to fix my problem quickly. There was something burned out on the compressor unit and he was able to fix it with what he had in the truck. My AC has been working since then.

American Home Shield sent Drain Go out for a plumbing issue that I had. They came really quickly, and the guys who came knew exactly what to do and fixed the issue straight away. It was very good. The claims submission with AHS is good too. They’re helpful on the phone. The only thing is sometimes it takes quite a while to get through on the phone. I know you could do it all online, but sometimes that’s difficult when you're at work, and so it’s quicker on the phone. I'm not paid way over what I’ve actually used, but it’s a relief to pay 100. I've had two claims. The washing machine was 350 and the shower was 250, but it’s an insurance.

My sink was clogged up. I did my claim automated and this time it was easy. I've had problems before where they put me on hold, but that never happened the whole time I've been with American Home Shield, so I was very happy about that. They then got back with me the same day and the same time, and they text me back who was coming and what time it was coming too. The contractor from AZ Remodeling & Plumbing was right on time. He gave me five hours, and he was there within the hour. He got something unclogged, and my husband said that the guy did a good job and that he didn't make a mess. So far, everything is great. I was very satisfied.

There was a problem with my water heater and when Barlow Plumbing Service first came out, they just hit the reset switch. That caused the water heater to be able to work again, and then they left. Thereafter, since I knew how to reset the reset switch, I just reset it whenever the hot water would fail. Then time got away from me, so it was a little over a 30-day period before I had them back out. When they came back out, they found that it was the thermostat or something and they had to replace parts in it. That took about an hour because things were hard to get to. For the particular brand of electric water heater that we have, there are two different thermostats, one on the top and one on the bottom. In the end, everything is working okay now after the repair.

I submitted a claim to AHS for a garbage disposal. It was making a lot of noise and it really wasn't working right. It was leaking water from the bottom of it. I spoke with a representative of AHS and it was fine. I didn't have any problems. They worked it out. They tried one person but they were busy. They went with the other person, and they connected with me within 24 hours. The guy that came out did a great job. I would have him back. He replaced the garbage disposal. Once he looked at it, diagnosed the problem and saw it was something that couldn't really be fixed, he immediately went out. He called it in, waited for a response and said he had one in the truck. He came back in, put it in and he did an excellent job. I have no complaints.
I've been with American Home Shield for at least six years. I've had a few different homes to different homes. After dealing with them, I had a few issues, but they worked itself out. They do a good job. However, I think they needed to be a little more selective in the people that they have working for them. At this particular situation, it was a great marriage between myself and Integrity Plumbing, but there have been times in the past where they've hired less reputable companies that weren't as professional.

When I submitted a claim for the dryer, I was told that I would be contacted within 24 hours, which was correct and very timely. However, I don’t like having to pay a deductible every single time I call. The dryers light would come on on one cycle but it wouldn’t work on any of the other cycles. The contractor checked it and ordered the parts, which took a bit of a long while, but parts take what parts take. Then, as soon as the parts came in, they were out. There were two of them and they were very efficient and quick. They got it working and everything has been fine so far. I'm very satisfied with the experience. I would certainly have them back out.

Our experience with Immediate Response Plumbing & Rooter Service was excellent. They were prompt in calling and showed up before time. We tried to get them to come in but he said he couldn't start 'till 8:00. And there were two of them that came and they got the job done within just a few minutes and we knew the problem was the stoppage in the sink. Everything was great. I also like the fact that I could go ahead and pay AHS. We make the claim, we can go ahead and pay the $75. It was already paid by the time the contractors came.

We had no heat. I called in a claim to American Home Shield and they sent A & R Complete Service Corp. The tech explained to me what the problem was. The hot water heater was not hooked up so I wasn't gonna get any heat. I didn't know that and I got an expensive lesson on how my hot water heater works. Still, the fella who came was great. AHS did fine.

I like having American Home Shield. I don't have any issues with what's covered or the service that we're getting. It's been a fair deal, and I've learned to rely on it. Choice Plumbing Heating and A/C came out for our most recent service request. It was for a furnace issue. The fan was not coming on and it was discovered that a starting capacitor needed to be changed. I did my claim online. The website is fine and it lets you know that within 24 hours, you'll be contacted for an appointment, and it usually does happen. It's just that I've learned to try to be as complete as possible when I put in the initial service request. Also, it's unfortunate that for the weekend coverage, we will have to find someone on our own. But that's just the way it goes. I understand.

This is gonna be my second year with American Home Shield. I have a Wolf oven, a Fisher & Paykel dishwasher, a Sub-Zero refrigerator, and not too many people have repair people that come and fix these things. I use my appliance a lot, so I needed to be reassured that if something should go wrong, I wasn't going to pay a fortune to have it fixed. I did a bit of research and they got good reviews and the people that I bought the appliances from recommended them.
Nana's Service, the contractor that AHS sent out, was very professional. It didn't take very long for them to get here, and they were much better than the company that came before them. I had a different contractor come and it took them forever because they came, the tech ordered the part, and then he forgot to put in the order. And it feels like I was chasing after him. Now, they have this new company which I was very happy with. They came, they knew exactly what they were doing and they fixed the problem. I had somebody come out for the oven and the stove, and then someone come out for the dishwasher, and they were very nice. They told me to call them if I had any problem that reoccurred.

My claim was for my clothing washer not going through the proper cycles, and it was found that the filter on the bag of the washer where the water line’s going to was clogged, and it was causing fault codes on the LCD display of the washer. That was fixed, and then it was researched that it was my water softener that was putting out bad water. Also, my water meter out in the street was damaged, so I had all those repaired. The water meter is done by the water company, Las Vegas Valley Water District. The company that came out to do the repair on the washer did an excellent job, and I highly recommend them. They came within their allotted time window. They showed up clean, well-dressed and with all the tools. They were very knowledgeable of my type of washing machine, and they were very good.

When RJ Wiggins came out for an electrical issue, the tech was professional, courteous and timely. That experience was good. I've had American Home Shield for 18 years. For the most part, my experience with them has been positive. It's just that the cost of the service is disappointing because we pay $50 a month and the fee is close to $80 to have someone come out as a service fee. Having paid almost $50 a month for the last almost 20 years was a bit absurd. We’ll certainly prepare for the auto renewal because that happens on a yearly basis. Sometimes, it sneaks up on you and you don’t realize, and you think, “Oh, I’m gonna cancel.” Sometimes it says that you are required to do some preventative things in order for them to be covered, which is frustrating. Technically, we’re spending about $600 a year on the policy the way it is.

This company only covered 2,000 dollars of our old HVAC system. We had to purchase a new system due to this company not covering most parts to fix the old HVAC. They blamed it on a code that only covers minimum parts. I would recommend of you are considering this company as your warranty company to cover you appliances to really think twice. My 1st overall experience was ONLY "FULL OF FRUSTRATION and DEPRESSION". American Home Shield's service is a scam, fraud and not worth. The time you need them, they will give all excuses to not do the job and to give all excuses that the items are not covered in your contract, even if those are clearly listed as "COVERED" in your contract. This was my 1st time using American home shield and this was 1st time I requested for a service from them. After my this 1st experience, I just strongly feel that I should have hired somebody directly to do the job, pay more money and should have never used American Home Shield.
I even tried to raise my concern to Customer Care, but as expected, they also didn't care anything about customer and further proved that this company is not in customer's favor. I called them so many times and every time I had to explain everything from start, every time I heard new story and new next steps from customer care executives. They promised me that I will get a call back but I never received any call back from them. So I called again and again but no resolution to my problems. I requested them that I want to escalate this - they simply said, "I cant escalate" and I will get a call back which I never did.
One of the customer care executive was even so rude - even after I explained my situation and depression. I am not sure what kind of training and monitoring this company does on how their customer care executives deals with the customers. - that behavior was not at all acceptable. I know none of my comments will matter. But I thought, somebody who might read my comments can save himself/herself from taking American Home Shield and save themselves from tons of frustration. I just had my first bad experience with American Home Shield and who they have listed for vendors for repair service. From August 2019 until December 2019 Ive been waiting to get my refrigerator repaired By Ameritech. They continue to come out here and never resolve my problem after 9 appts. I finally had to call and beg for the third time to AHS to request that they never send Ameritech back out to my home. Finally when the new company came National Appliance Repair they fixed it within three days. Ameritech is a joke and should NEVER Have allowed this issue to go on for four months. I am currently looking for an attorney to recoup my fees for all the times I had to miss from work to be here for appointments and all the food I lost within those four months that Ameritech claimed my refrigerator is repaired and it was not.

Express Comfort Heating & Air came out to look at my heat pump that wasn’t working properly. I went online to file this claim but then I also got on a call with American Home Shield. The website was very user-friendly. I called about 10 o’clock, and the contractor came out that afternoon. He was here within four hours. His name was Chris and he did a very good job. The repair that he made and the adjustments he did looked to have corrected the issue.

I had American Home Shield a while back and got reinstated with them within the last couple of months when I was financially able to. I needed to have the services done on a lot of my appliances and my whole home equipment in a way that would save me from having to pay out-of-pocket. When I was without heat, they sent Butler M-K. They were very professional and the tech did a wonderful job. He fixed everything in a timely fashion and I was very pleased. A part of my furnace needed to be replaced. Not only did he do that, but he also replaced my thermostat with a newer model. Everything went perfectly.

I called American Home Shield and the rep was pretty good. Handy Randy’s Enterprises came and serviced my dishwasher, which was beeping and wasn't working properly. The rinsing agent was leaking, and so they had to change the part. They had to order the part, and the guy came back and fixed it. I turned the dishwasher on yesterday and it was pretty good.

I’m a Realtor and I refer all my clients to American Home Shield. Whenever I have a transaction, they always buy from them. I have also been a loyal customer. When I moved in, I remodeled everything. I had multiple claims with my first claim with American Home Shield. I did it all at the same time to save my hours, so I could just take off one day. For the heating, JJK HVAC came out to our home and checked my HVAC for heating, and also gave me a couple of notice to make my HVAC last longer. It was a great experience. The tech was very nice. He was very knowledgeable of what he does and has great customer service.
The plumbing is still the issue. I took a day off a couple of times and they were not able to fix that issue. I’m guessing that the contracting company is having issue with the one who takes the appointments. The first one, they sent someone that doesn’t have any experience with tankless water heater. So, that was a waste of day. The second one, the guy was very knowledgeable. He’s like a walking encyclopedia when it comes to plumbing. But he didn’t have the proper solution to do it. That was Tuesday or Monday. He said that he was gonna come back Friday to do it. But for some reason, the one who does the appointments got fired. So, I was waiting the whole day for someone to come back.
When I called the company, they said, “We don’t have you on the schedule.” So, I have to go back and reschedule something. But they told me that I need to pay $190 something for them to order the parts. But I already paid my copay, so I called American Home Shield and they said that I shouldn’t be paying them. If something is not covered, they should submit it to American Home Shield. That was back in November or December. American Home Shield is supposed to call me back on what their decision is, if they’re gonna keep that same plumber or they’re gonna send a different company. But I have not heard from them yet. My plumbing is still not working right. I just need someone reliable to get it fixed.

The heat on the AC wouldn’t blow and we submitted the claim online to American Home Shield. We thought it was the outside unit but apparently, everything was upstairs. Charles, the contractor, had to replace a part, which was something that was easily fixed. He was great and he did the work. He had been out there before and we were very pleased with him. I've had American Home Shield for at least 15 years.now and submitting claims has been really smooth. They let me know ahead of time when the people are coming, and I like that. They also automatically deduct the $100 from my checking account. I had their contractor, Accord, for a problem with the washer, and though the guy was a bit rude initially, it turned out okay when he finally came.
I then had RR HVAC, and the first guy who came out was nice and he checked everything. He said somebody might come and check behind him. Another gentleman came, and I was a little disturbed because he asked me who I had, and when I told him I have American Home Shield, he said, “Hmm. They might not do anything.” I told him that I had been satisfied with American Home Shield up until now. I don’t think that another company should say anything negative, but I didn't say anything about that. He also said it might cost me $2,000 or $3,000 for another unit, but he had not checked anything yet, just the other gentleman.
And then, Ray, the owner of the company, called me back and asked if everything was fixed. And I said, “Well, not really.” He said he was gonna check with my warranty company and let me know. Also, he would send me the information about what he found wrong so that, if possible, I can have it either repaired or, if I have to, make a purchase myself.
I just wish American Home Shield could better explain the information regarding their warranty. I downloaded my contract and read what I have warrantied, and I was gonna call them to see if their contractor had submitted anything or what was wrong and what would I have to do because it has been over a week. Other than that, I really haven't had any problems and I have told other people about American Home Shield.

Working with AHS has gotten better over the years. I had a claim for my air conditioner that we thought had blown up. There was smoke coming out of it. When the tech AHS sent from Cityline Air Conditioning LLC came there was nothing wrong with it. He said that was how the air conditioner resets itself. It has been working fine since he came. I also needed my dryer vent cleaned that time but then the girl rep on the other end of the line wasn't aware that AHS' washer-dryer guy didn't do dryer vents. She hooked me up with them and their tech called me telling me that they don't do vents. So, there was a little communication problem there. Despite this issue, having AHS has been great.

I called American Home Shield as I was not getting hot water in the room. The mechanic came on time but he had to come out twice and he was not able to figure it out. They changed something in the thermostat and also a part, then finally, they fixed it. But there was another leaking, and the manager, Will, came in and said the previous mechanic said the temperature is high, so there was a leak. He adjusted and fixed it, and now, it’s okay.

The pool companies tend to fix things the day they come, and certain air conditioning companies do as well. For the heat claim, the guy came out, diagnosed it, had the part on his truck and fixed it. That particular company has been good and every time they’ve come out for things, they’ve been able to get the stuff done. What tends to happen, though, is that most of the companies come out, look at the problem and say, “I don’t have the parts,” and then you don’t see them for a week. Usually, whatever’s broken, you’re stuck for a week without it working.
With the plumbing, the guy kept on coming out and saying, “We need to come back.” The problem was they couldn’t find where the leak was. It was in the wall. One guy they sent wanted to come up on top of our granite countertops, but he was obese. So, I ended up cutting it up myself and finding out where the leak was. The first company that came said, “We’ll fix it. We need to get some parts.” Then they just left, and then they said, “We’re not gonna fix it. We can’t fix it. We’re not capable.” They came three times and ended up not fixing it.
The second company that came out was all about trying to prove it wasn’t a claim that needed to be fixed. I ended up fixing that one myself too. We had a pipe that was close to another pipe, and when it was installed, it was touching. They were trying to say it was the foundation moving. I was saying, “No, it’s because that’s the drain pipe". The guys came out and they cut into the Sheetrock to see it. They were supposed to fix the Sheetrock, but I haven’t gone through and done the claim. I know they denied the claim to fix the plumbing, and I ended up cutting it and fixing it myself. But American Home Shield is still responsible to fix the diagnosis stuff where they had to cut into the Sheetrock. I felt like everyone was trying to get out of doing the work rather than trying to fix my problem.

Lake Area Appliance Services replaced the heating element in my dryer. They provided excellent service and I'm definitely satisfied with American Home Shield. I used to have a home warranty through American before, and I’ll definitely renew as well.

I have done some claims online, but I call AHS most of the time because when you do it online, you just get the regular service. And if there’s a leak in your wall, you need expedited service. The guy from High Priority Plumbing and Services was great and is welcome to come back anytime. He cut three holes in the wall and found the leak. He also cut the pipes where it was leaking at and put a new piece of pipe there. But I’m still waiting on American Home Shield to schedule somebody to come out and patch the holes up, but nobody called me back yet.
I've been with American Home Shield since 2012 and I’ve only had a problem with them last year when they couldn’t get my air conditioner fixed. AHS kept sending people out, but just one company. They would come out and say, “Well, we can’t do that. We’re not specialized in that field.” Then, they turned around and told me that the technicians did do what was wrong when they didn’t. I told them I didn’t want them to come back. So finally, when American Home Shield switched a company for me, a guy came right out to fix the AC. I had no more problems with it. But it took me about eight months to get my air conditioner fixed and I had a high light bill every month. AHS should have been aggressive in getting me somebody that was gonna repair it.

The washer/dryer was making a noise recently and I called it in at American Home Shield. The techs from Able Heating & AC were easy to deal with. They replaced the pulley that was making the noise. They had to order it and they came back a second time and fixed it. It’s been functioning well ever since.

I’ve had a water heater issue, but AHS didn't replace it. They put a heating element in it, but it’ll probably go out. Submitting the claim was easy, but there was a hidden out of the pocket BS that I wasn’t aware of. 1000 bucks, to be exact. They said that I’m not up to code. The house was just built in 2011. What do you mean I’m not up to code? AHS advertises like they're a big warranty thing, but they don’t expose the hidden fees, like the labor. I just want my crap fixed and for them to do what they say they're gonna do and not charge me for something they're not doing.

Shamanski Heating & Cooling is terrific and American Home Shield should really keep them. We had a heating issue and they knew what to do. They took care of a clog, and they’re wonderful. They’re just pleasant and very knowledgeable. We also had a trouble last year and they were sent out. There were others who were sent out and they changed a little, but once Shamanski came, they seemed to know what to do. They’re excellent. The only thing was we had to wait a day or so because it was a weekend or a holiday. If it was cold out that time, then that would be really bad. Other than that, our experience with American Home Shield was good.

We had a toilet that wouldn’t flush and a kitchen sink that was leaking, for which I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I did that online and then I got a call the next day. The toilet and the sink have been fine since the repair, but we hadn’t worked with this plumber before and I kinda wished that we would’ve been able to use our own plumber. They had done other work for us before on a different property but they said they don’t work with American Home Shield.

The contractor who came for my dishwasher was absolutely wonderful. Although he had to come back four different times, he wasn't gonna give up. He had to try replacing several different parts, but he finally said that I needed a new dishwasher. However, the time from when I submitted the claim until the new dishwasher was put in was quite a while because it was a Bosch dishwasher and one of the parts had to come from their factory.
I had an issue with the air conditioner though. It was 28 years old and every summer, we had to have somebody out. The last guy who came out was from Budget Heating & Air and he came out three different times within a month's time. I asked if it was beyond its lifespan and he said no. He no more than left it and it went down again. Budget Heating & Air never even bothered to call me back. I contacted AHS and said it was down again. They said I could have somebody else come out and take a look at it. I said, "Obviously. We need a new air conditioner." The guy wanted to argue with me and I said to just forget it. I had this insurance and just because Budget Heating & Air wouldn't call AHS, the insurance wasn't gonna help me cover the cost of a new air conditioner. I had to buy a new air conditioner and now, I'm out almost $4,000. I was not happy about that.

It was very easy to submit the claim and it took about a week for someone to come out and do the rekey. It was right at Christmas time, so the holiday kinda delayed it a little bit, but that was to be expected. I didn't find it unreasonable. The contractor that they sent out did a fabulous job. He was great.

Our most recent claim with AHS went beautiful. The guy was really nice because it was fixable. But if it was something that AHS needed to replace, they would have said no. They would have declined the claim. I did have another claim for my water heater and they declined it saying that it was a pre-existing condition. I talked to the person that came in from the company and he said they didn't use that word. They asked all kinds of questions and said he'd be back before New Year's to fix our water heater. He was saying I'm gonna need a new water heater and that’s why AHS won't do it. They charge you upfront and don’t fix the problem. They don’t care.
I was with Fidelity Home Warranty before. If it was something pre-existing, I would have made that claim. The only reason I changed Fidelity was I'm a real estate agent, and I wanted to try a different company so I can recommend it to my client. People complain all the time. Everything is pre-existing, and they blame it on the vendors but the vendors have nothing to do with it.
I had a really bad experience. I heard so many bad things too. Whenever I call AHS, they put me on the phone for 45 minutes and disconnect my calls. It's a disaster. I couldn’t cancel it because they were going to reimburse me only half of what I already paid. So, I decided just to keep it for now. I will never recommend AHS. Even some vendors told me that they are the worst because they don’t cover much. I was with a good company, so I am gonna go back to Fidelity with my other properties.

Our furnace was not turning on and Weatherwise came out. Our furnace uses a condensation method and, somehow, the water had backed up into the furnace motor. And so, the contractor had to clean that out. And then, he also had to replace the part on the fan. He did a great job, and the furnace has been working great since. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield has been easy, and the contractors that they have sent out have been good. I'm telling people they should get it because there's so many things that can go wrong in the house, and AHS is a great product to have. It's totally worth it. So, even if we have a full year where nothing goes wrong, and all it takes is one thing and I feel like you get your money’s worth out of it. I recommend it to people all the time. I know there's several other brands out there, but we've always had American Home Shield and it's been fine, so I haven’t felt the need to shop it out or change.

I usually make claims over the phone at American Home Shield, and that’s always a pain ‘cause sometimes getting in touch with someone takes a little longer than I would expect. Still, I usually hear back from the vendor very quickly. Comfort First fixed my heater and they were great. I’m switching from my heat pump to gas and they’re here right now, installing that.

There was water leaking underneath the fridge and then we had that ventilator that wasn’t working properly. I submitted the claim through online and it was good. The website is convenient to use. After I submitted the claim, I received an SMS message which said who the company will be. Then the contractor, BRM Services, was good. I’m happy with Home Shield because I’m satisfied and they're good as well.

I went through the website to file a claim as our heat wouldn't come on. Someone from Total Air Care came out and he looked at everything around. He said it was the thermostat and he changed it. That fixed it, so it went well. He was good and I was happy with his knowledge. However, we went through Home Shield and a different contractor came out to have the heating unit inspected prior to turning it on. So when the unit didn’t work, it surprised me that they didn’t catch it. I’m not sure exactly what that covered and I thought they would have checked everything out. Other than that, everything has been great since Total Air Care was out and I hadn’t had any issues with the heating. Also, I have extended our coverage with American Home Shield for the second year.

My wife and I bought the house in 2001. We’ve been maintaining the American Home Shield warranty for years. The house was built in 1980 and it had a 101 feet deep well. J & J Pumps had come out in 2013 and had relined the well. They had a prognosis that the well pump had to be replaced and the claim was submitted to American Home Shield. AHS wanted a second opinion and it was taken care of by a different contractor. When I was talking to the lead technician with the other contractor, he made a discouraging remark regarding the practices of the practical application of doing a well cleanout and he inferred that changing pumps would make an error, which I found to be quite distasteful. In terms of professional standing with a client where you're working on something that’s as important as a well, I’m going to pay attention to how you talk about your competitors or other outfits in the area.
I had a personal preference to work with J & J Pumps and I was very comfortable with them. Also, my wife was very clear that she did not want to deal with the other contractor. So we had J & J Pumps cleaen out the well before Thanksgiving. They used compressed air at the 80-foot level. They also went down to the 95-foot level and blew the sediment out of the well to clear out the well. The well has been performing wonderfully since then. They also used extra-strength bleach to shock the well to kill off as much bacteria as possible.
When we had the well relined, the flow of water went up dramatically and it resolved our issue. But the bacteria came back with a vengeance. The well that the pump sits in has iron bacteria. That’s a maintenance issue. So getting the whole well cleaned out like we did is really important. It’s worked immensely in the flowing water because it was so cramped down from the sediment that had accumulated because of the presence of the iron bacteria. Groundwater is groundwater, no matter where you live. Right now, things are doing really well with the water system and we are very happy with the service that has been provided by J & J Pumps.

Top Notch Plumbing was excellent. They’ve been out to my house a few times. They were excellent. I just bought the house back in March, and we kept getting a leak. And we’re like, “What in the world?” Well, we had copper piping here. So, the plumber that came out – so, they came out and we’re like, “Oh, my gosh. What is going on with the leak that keeps occurring?” And so, he told us, kind of advised us on, “Okay, well, you guys are on well water, which is hard water, and so, because of the copper piping, it’s all it’s gonna do. This is gonna keep happening.” And so, he informed us of that. So then, my fiancé went ahead and we just re-piped the whole house, my fiancé did. And it was the same guys that came out before when we had a leak with our water heater as well. And so, again, with the water leak. And so, he told us that. And then, he fixed the water leak or said that it was unfixable or whatever, the case was. And so, just great, just excellent service.
When I submitted the claim, that experience was good. I’ve never had a bad experience at all with American Home Shield. Well, my first experience, there was kind of the same issue or the same call or whatever. Because I had all these different leaks going on in my house, there was a mix-up. And so, it was not Top Notch. It was another plumbing company, and they were very, very rude. I think it was A Plus Plumbing, possibly, and they were very, very rude. Very rude. And to be honest, the confusion was on my end, but I had no idea until we figured it out, obviously. And so, just very, very rude, A Plus Plumbing was.
As American Home Shield, I would not use their services for your customers anymore. When I talked to their representative, he was very rude to the point like, as a female, you know when another female is coming at you shady or just not being nice. You just know. And so, she was coming at me like that. And so, I had all these different claims with you guys for these different plumbing issues that I had. And so, that was a mix-up on my end.
And so, from talking to the plumbers with Top Notch, when I was talking to an A Plus representative or receptionist, whoever she was, and she to an attitude with me. And I was like, “Whoa, wait a minute. I talked to Mike or whatever his name was, your guys' plumber. And he told us to be here at such and such time.” And so, I guess with her, because it was with a different company, we weren’t here at the time with her for her plumbers. But I was all confused on what plumbers were coming out.
And so, very, very rude. And apparently, I got off the phone, and I thought I was already hung up, and I said some choice words. And so, then, she had like her supervisor or one of her leadership at the plumbing call me and informed me that he listened to the call, and blah blah blah, and it was very unnecessary. And I was like, “Really?” But I get it. It was just a bad situation. But I would not have them do service with you guys anymore. I shouldn’t have said what I said. And it was very unprofessional on my end ‘cause I also am a worker. But at the same time, “Your gal, your receptionist, called me.”
Don’t come at me and pull the female thing with me. No. And then, come to find out it was my problem, my mistake. I’m sorry. And then, have your leadership call me and tell me that was unacceptable? No kidding. I was like, “Oh, no.” But then, once I figured out ‘cause Mike did come out from A Plus Plumbing and just took care of the whole situation, he was like, “No, this is what’s going on with the water heater and blah blah blah and whatever the case was.” And it got resolved. So, I don’t wanna push it any further. I was like “Okay, whatever.” But yeah, so that was kind of a mess. I wouldn’t do work with them anymore if I was you guys.

There was a leak in the faucet and a faulty drain plug in a bathtub. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. The website was good. It does not allow for much detail though, which has been a problem. There wasn’t a problem with this ticket. I was able to talk to the people. But if there was an additional place for at least free-form text, that would be much more helpful. But they confirmed who my contractor was and said that they would contact me within 24 hours. Prime Plumbing Services came out and we had an excellent interaction. They did go over what had to be happened. Everything has been performing very good now.
We’ve had American Home Shield before, but we've had them for three years at this specific location. They’re helpful sometimes, but not all the time. And we may not stick with them longer. We’ve had denial of claims this year that weren’t really clear in the contract. They were implied in the contract, and then once the person got here, they denied it. Prime Plumbing Services did a great job, but we've had multiple instances where the people never called us and I had to hunt them down to get the appointment. We also had multiple instances where we had to cancel tickets, remove the fee, because of no-shows, and then get a new ticket. That was an air-conditioning in the heat of the summer when I got no assistance from AHS and had to spend a lot of time getting that resolved. So not the best experience this year, overall.

I was with American Home Shield for more than 10 years but I had a break and I came back last year. In my claim with regards to heating, the contractor called and came around on time. He replaced a part but after that, I saw that my heat was not coming up as fast as it used to. I called him and he told me to do some changes on the settings, which I did and it seems to be staying up.

We started with AHS when we were in California. Now that we’re in Las Vegas, we still have them and we've been with them for 25 years. When we have a claim, I like to call in which is usually faster than going online. Recently, we had a claim for the dishwasher and they assigned ALFA Appliances to service it. The techs came out in one day and they did very well. They were a super appliance fixer. I also tell people all about AHS all the time and the ones I talked to over here are from a big community. But AHS is new here in Las Vegas and the people I talked to said they never heard of the company. So eventually, I gave them the telephone number and everything else.

The refrigerator was dead. Home Shield sent GE Appliances for it, and my experience was great. The contractor came the next day, he changed the part and was really very fast. I had a bad experience with the air conditioning company though. They screwed me up on $1,500. They said they need this, they need that, but they didn't do anything. They forced me to pay out of pocket for some stuff. “We need to do this. We need to do the electrical. We need to do that.” I told them to leave it the way it was and they said they couldn't do that. I called Home Shield, and they said they were gonna give me about $300. What am I gonna do with $300? I don’t want the money. I just want the thing fixed. They replaced the coil on the air conditioner in the attic and that was it. But on top of that, I paid about $1,400. I was very upset about the issue. This time, the tech who came for the fridge worked very well, though.

The contractor from Realty Rekey came out to do a change of locks because we had just moved in. He had me test the two doors he changed, and I let him out the front door but didn’t actually got to use the front door until I tried to leave again for work the next morning. And when I did try to leave for work, the key wouldn’t lock from the outside. And so, then I came back in and it wouldn’t lock from the inside either. Because I couldn’t lock my home, he had to come back out, and he tried to explain to me that because of the age of the lock it really wasn’t his fault, but the paddle was slipping out-of-place. I had pointed out to him that maybe that wouldn’t had happened if he hadn’t put it on backwards. And weirdly enough, when he didn’t put it on backwards, it hasn’t had an issue since he serviced it a second time when he fixed what he put on backwards.
After AHS tried to charge me for him coming back out to fix his mistakes, I called back in and said, “Oh, nope, that’s not on me. I already lost half a day of work because of his mistakes.” Everything is totally fine now. But I wanted to talk to them because I can't get Home Depot to call me back. We had the carpets redone, and there is a board in the living room floor that creaks, which didn’t creak beforehand. It's like the tack strip is rubbing up against the granite underneath the fireplace. They kinda didn’t put it back together right. It was done by Home Depot, and I can’t get them to call me back.
We are glad the issue has been resolved pertaining to your re-key. As far as the carpet goes, that would not be a covered service.

The service from Caldwell was very prompt and convenient, and the technician was very much of a gentleman. It appeared to me that he knew what he was doing. So, I have high recommendations for that. AHS is an honest and a fair company, and I will recommend them. I make claims online, which works for me. It’s pretty simple and I just submit any claim that I need. The contractors call me and we usually set up a date. For the two times that I’ve done it, I’ve had the same person and he’s fixed the problem. He’s very professional and he explains the problem. When my microwave was shorting and tripping my breaker, he had the part in his car, so he went and got it, put it in and it was fixed.

The fan in our furnace was working but no heat was coming out. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they gave me a contractor. The contractor never called me so I cancelled the claim. I spoke to someone and reopened a claim. I had an awesome interaction with the rep I spoke with. Sometimes, it'd take a really long time to be on hold. But otherwise, she was wonderful. Most of of the contractors that they've sent out have been great, although I’ve had one or two that I would request not to have them sent out. The most recent was for some plumbing issues. He was a little frustrated as he had a hard time fixing or getting to some of the things that he needed to do. But it all got done eventually. He used a drain opener versus snaking it. He may have done that when I was not exactly in the room. He was very nice though, and he was not disrespectful at all.

We have a double stove and the upper wasn’t heating correctly. We submitted a claim with AHS and they sent out Sears. They had to replace a motherboard and after they did that, we found out that the heating element was bad as well and they didn’t catch that on the first run-through. But when they did their checks, they found out about it. Other than that, we have AHS for 10 years now and filing claims with them has been really easy. Everything has gone smoothly and I’ve never had any complaints. And their process is kinda nice, so I don’t have to worry about it too much. Aside from that, all of the contractors they have sent out have been very good and very knowledgeable. They were on time, usually pretty accurate, and for the most part, we’ve ever had any bad experience at all. The contractors that AHS use also seem to be very well-respected and more than willing to take care of everything for us, so our experience has been great.

The heater wasn’t working, so the contractor came out and fixed it. They dealt with my husband more than me, but they had to come back to fix it because they didn’t have the part. They had to order the part or get the part from their shop, and the heater is running right now. The last problem was sporadic but we have heat, so that’s good. The technicians were great and awesome. They were very all business, came in and did the work. They put the shoe covers on, and they talked to my husband and explained what the part was.

I submitted a claim for my HTG to American Home Shield and their contractor came. They replaced the Freon in the unit and the heat started working. My issue was fixed. We’ve been satisfied with the claims that we’ve had with AHS so far. We've had several with them. Within the first month of having the policy they had to replace our whole air conditioning unit. Having this warranty is well worth the money that we’ve spent on it.

The ice maker on our freezer was not working. The ice in it was frozen up into a slab. We also had a dishwasher issue. The top tray and the wheels were not working and the whole tray would come down when I try to load or unload it. Also, our soap dispenser door was not working at all. The contractor finished up yesterday and brought the parts they ordered, but they didn’t fix all of the dishwasher parts. He left without showing my husband that so we didn’t notice it was still broken until he left. The contractor fixed the soap part, but the top thing is still coming off so we had to order more wheels.
Also, our freezer ice maker still doesn’t work, only part of it does. It makes the ice now and drops it into the thing, but it is still not coming out. We also had to order a separate part yesterday. I paid the $75 so I was a little bit frustrated. When we looked up the part they replaced, it was $100, which at least makes it worth the $75 deposit. My husband went on Amazon and some other appliance website and ordered the parts himself because we weren't gonna spend $75. Plus, it took over a week for the contractor to even come back with the parts. My husband also said that he wasn’t able to understand the guy.

Our heater claim with AHS went very well. There was a part that failed. The technician that was sent out did a really good job. He found it right away and came back out on New Year’s Eve after five o’clock and took care of it. So, that was really nice. He was running late with other jobs in front of it, but he still came out. Everything has been working really well since then. We actually had two things replaced on the heater system. They came out and replaced one thing that was failing, and then it was about a week later that it failed again with this second piece of the hardware that failed. So, both times they came out and took care of it right away, tested the units and found the one that was failing, so no complaints with it. They did a really good job.

I have a home warranty with American Home Shield. It would seem that as the customer paying for a warranty for the protection of their systems in the home, the warranty company would stand with the customer who is paying them for their service to get the best value from systems that need to be repaired or replaced. However, that is not what American Home Shield does. American Home Shield allows the companies that they send out to make the repairs or replacements to escalate non covered charges so you end up spending an excessive amount of money on items that can be as much as two hundred percent cheaper. As an example, our gas package unit failed at our home in November. The non covered charges were over two thousand dollars ($2,000.00). When the repair company told me I had to pay this amount, I asked them why. They told me to call American Home Shield.
I called American Home Shield and they referred me back to the repair company for an explanation. I asked the repair company to email me an itemized list after American Home Shield referred me back to them for an explanation of the non covered charges. One of the items that was non covered was a permit from the county for which the repair company charged me $199.00. The actual cost for the permit with the county was only $10.00. I did not realize that it was that much until the county inspector came out and commented that it was only $10.00. I called the repair company back to request a refund because there is no justifiable reason that I had to pay $189.00 more for the permit. A twenty dollar thermostat was $127.00 and also an item that we did not need replaced. The repair company also charged $95.00 for a carbon monoxide monitor which can be purchased at a hardware store for $20.00.
The only refund that I was able to recover was for the thermostat and the carbon monoxide monitor for which I am still waiting to receive in the mail. American Home Shield does not protect you from these predatory price increases. They leave you stuck with dealing with these deceitful companies and there is nothing that you can do about it. I have recordings, emails and receipts for all that has occurred. I am searching for a better company to replace American Home Shield.

My pipe for the outbound plumbing. Would not work. Called in to submit a claim. Said outside plumbing not included. Lucky I could dig up my lawn and work with the city of Roseville to fix it. Thank you city of Roseville for saving the day.

I placed a call that my old water heater was leaking and shortly after it began, completely inoperable. It took 6 days to get someone to come out to look at it, now I'm being told all they will do in the first appointment is diagnose it, then I have to wait another 2-6 days to have it replaced. It's a water heater. They are rarely repairable, especially after so many years of use. This should be common sense to just be prepared to replace the item in cases like this, and not make customers go up to two weeks with no hot water in their home during the winter especially! Very disappointed at the lack of concern and urgency in my first time using them for a major repair. I feel like I would have been better off not paying for the warranty, and just using the last 2 years worth of monthly fees to replace it myself, more quickly, for the same amount out of pocket.
