My issue was successfully resolved by AHS. Darrika stepped up to make things right on behalf of AHS and for that, I’d like to make my experience WITH HER, a 5 Star experience.
Original Review: Jan. 9, 2020
On 12/30/2019, I created an online service request with American Home Shield after several failed attempts to get through to them by phone. The request was due to my hot water heater leaking. I finally got a chance to speak to rep, and told the rep that this was an emergency and could a my request be expedited. The rep told me that I had to wait for the contractor to respond before anything could be done. I contacted the contractor myself that morning and let them know that my water was leaking into my garage and was told by the contractor that the earliest that they could respond would be January 4th. I called AHS back and told them this and they said that nothing could be done until the contractor rejects the work order or 48 hours passes.
I let the rep from AHS know that this was an emergency and that damage was being caused in my garage from the leaking water and asked if he could please contact another contractor that could respond immediately, or allow me to get my own contractor that could respond immediately The rep said that would require authorization, but first, he would need check contractors in the area and call me back, but I never received a call back. I called back AGAIN and explained the same problem to another rep, he said that he would transfer me to dispatch so that they could assist me with finding a contractor in the area and instead transferring me, he disconnected the phone call.
I waited until the next morning, contacted American Home shield again On 12/31/2019 and attempted to get someone out to fix the issue. I also asked the rep that since since there was water damage, and since I had no hot water, could I contact someone on my own and the rep said that was a last resort after all options had been exhausted. I kept getting the run around, was put on hold, never received a call back from AHS regarding my service request and every time that I would call back and ask for a manager or supervisor, I would placed on hold and told that there were no managers or supervisors available. I have small children and had no hot water or running for two days, so I was forced to get my own contractor.
I contacted AHS again and explained my dilemma and was told to submit invoices and receipts to two different addresses and I am being told that they are refusing to reimburse me. What other options did I have? I paid for a home warranty service, made a service request, waited, and waited, and waited, was hung up on, wasn’t called back, and ultimately didn’t receive the service from AHS that I am paying for. It seemed like Everyone that I spoke with was more in a hurry to get me off the phone and didn’t really want to address my problem. This is a horrible way to treat people that are not paying you for a service.
Good Morning,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

The American Home Shield website is awesome and easy to navigate. Their response to my submitting a claim is awesome too. Efficient Air recently came to my home when the compressor went on the unit, and the tech knew what was wrong immediately. Took him an hour and now it's fine.

The heater wouldn’t ignite so I processed a claim online and I'm very pleased with the website. Universal 1 Repair was assigned to resolve the issue and they were very professional. They were very courteous and they respected my place. They explained everything to me in detail and did a good job. Everything has been functioning excellently since they had been out. The expense from old appliances is just outrageous and American Home Shield was recommended through a friend. I've been protected with them for at least 10 years already.
Good afternoon Norman,

The sellers put American Home Shield on the sale of the house when we purchased it back in September of ‘19. After my fiance’s daughter and future son-in-law moved in and used the shower, that was when they realized that the drain itself was leaking. I called American Home Shield and they got a hold of Eagle Plumbing and Heating and within 45 minutes, Eagle got a hold of me. Tim from Eagle was very pleasant. He said he couldn’t get out there the following day, but he came out two days later. He was there when he said he’d be. And when he was within a mile of the house, he texted saying, “I’ll be there,” in whatever time he was gonna be. I thought we had the problem resolved and unfortunately, it wasn’t as easy a fix as he thought. So, we had to call AHS back and he came back a second time and got it completely rectified. He was phenomenal.
American Home Shield is very easy as far as contact goes. Obviously, it saves us a ton of money, as far as any upcoming repairs that may be needed. So we are really happy with how that all worked out. As a matter of fact, my fiance and I, we’ve already decided that when the original warranty expires, we’re gonna look into having it renewed because we are renting out the other side.
Good afternoon Daniel,

I like Home Shield's service and follow-up. This is our second year with them and we only used them one time during the first year but the service is very good and they follow up. The people they referred us to said they would call within a certain period of time and they did. We had a microwave issue recently and they sent Elite Pro. The appliance man came out, installed the microwave and checked it. It's still working now. I'm in Las Vegas and it's cold here right now. I warm my coffee up quite often and I got tired of warming it up on the stove. So, I'm very happy.

We like American Home Shield's willingness to work with their customers and take care of all the problems that may arise. Plus their contracts are quite fair. The technician is very polite, and it's the second time he has come out. First time was for a dishwasher, a couple of weeks prior. With each visit, he's very professional, explained everything well and was able to troubleshoot both problems rather quickly and repair both issues that I had.

I go online to file a claim with American Home Shield. It’s easy to do. When I had a sewer line that was plugged, it was a day or two after that someone came out. It was quick. The contractor was very professional and good. They did a fine job. Everything was broken but now it’s fixed. We had a similar problem four months ago and we got the same kind of result. American Home Shield had excellent response and the issue was fixed cleanly so we’re good. We signed up for the warranty when we bought a house in St. Louis about six years ago and we signed up again in Minneapolis. So all together, it's been like 12 years and it's just fine.
We certainly appreciate you having faith in us for so many years Daniel. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. We look forward to being here to assist you when you need us. Have an amazing week.

The circulation pump was screaming like crazy. It was keeping us and the neighbors awake. We just bought the house six months ago or so and it’s under American Shield. So, we called American Home Shield and went through them. We’ve had very good luck with the contractors so far and they're very good. We’d recommend American Home Shield. It's very valuable having it when you move into a home. The house is pre-owned and you're not sure of the condition of everything. We had a couple of home warranty choices, and the Realtor that we were working with recommended AHS.

American Home Shield is lovely and very responsive. Although All Brands, the contractor they sent, was very good, they couldn't work on my kind of system. We had problems that started out with the water heater then the stove went out. We then had to call a plumber and they replaced the plumbing. We still had problems because the plumbing had to be replaced by the city on the other side. And then we still had problems with the heater so American Home Shield sent out Rise Heating and Air and they fixed it. They replaced one part and it was $650. Everything is great with the furnace now.
But we have a problem with AHS. We bought our house a year ago in November and I asked if American Home Shield's service could be provided. I was told yes and about a week before I was going to renew, AHS called me saying if I renewed then, they were gonna give me a special rate. They were gonna charge me half one month and give it to me for free the following month. I would not have to pay again until January. On the 31st of December, I called and they said I was not gonna be charged until January. But that money came out that night. I called AHS. I really thought that the plumber that fixed all the pipes the first time would have been paid for, but no. That was $1,500. They told me it was where the pipes were like tied in to the city. My insurance through Farmers wouldn’t pay for it either.

My heating claim with American Home Shield went fine. Amazing Comfort came out and took care of what the issues were and got it resolved pretty quickly. I was dealing with an elderly tenant. It was really cold and she had no heat. It was really critical that we got somebody to her as quickly as possible. While I understand that AHS or the companies that are working with them have a process, it took some time to be able to connect with somebody that could get to her when I had an individual that could have gotten to her within an hour.
I had requested permission to be able to contact that particular company because I would let them know I have somebody that I do trust and that I would like them to get out there and get this taken care of. And that was flat out denied. In the midst of the "season," it can be quite busy, so I certainly understand that. And I did do my own follow up on the company that we ended up using. He did okay, but that company did not have the greatest reviews out there. So, I was kinda nervous as to how the situation would go and what would happen.

I had American Home Shield for a property that I had before. I was familiar with them and I didn’t know any of the competitors like I do today, so I went with them. I had two toilets that were running, and I had a sink that the pipe probably must have been too short and it’s dripping. The contractor came in and he put a new pipe on, which worked. There was more dripping from the garbage disposal and then, he also changed the entire little flapper piece in the toilets. Every time you flush it, the water would build up and then rise to the seat out. He fixed everything to work 100%.
At the time when I made the request for a plumber, I also made a request for an electrician, which was when things started to go bad. I was gonna give them a call from work because they sent me their findings and I’m not happy with it at all. I was ready to cancel the $100 deductible until they resolve the issues and someone was supposed to get back to me. I still haven’t heard from them. It’s clear to me that as long as the issue is simple, you get good service but when it’s a little bit complicated, nobody wants to explain anything to you. So, I’m not happy with them right now. I’ve been waiting for almost a month now and I’m on the verge of canceling.
Hi Earlene,

I submitted a service request to American Home Shield for a heating problem. The contractors came out and I had great interaction with them. It took about a couple of weeks to get everything back up and running because they had to wait for the parts. I was excited that they were handling the situation with the heat. The only qualm I had was that there was not enough coverage for the Freon. But other than that, they were good. I would recommend them.
We do apologize there was a heat delay and issues regarding Freon coverage. We are however pleased to know your issue was well taken care of in this matter. We are delighted in working with your more in the future.

Our water heater started leaking all over the place. The first guy who came out was trying to rip me off to no end. He was telling me that the whole wall had to come down and he got people who could take care of it. I have a next door neighbor who’s an engineer. I called him and as soon as he came over, he said that I didn't need that. All of a sudden, the guy's whole tune completely changed. He saw my Harley and the thing, and he was trying to talk about the Harley trying to butter me up. I didn’t say a word because I figured that the guy was trying to make a living.
The second guy who was sent over, Joe, was excellent, fantastic, and phenomenal. I could never believe a guy was so neat at putting a thing together like this. He knew what he was doing, went to the point and resolved the issue in about two hours. I was completely taken. Overall, AHS took care of me. I’ve used them for the air conditioning, heater, and the garage door opener, and every time, I’ve had a great experience, that’s why I’m sticking with them.

I called them, they called me back, and they came out the next day. I talked to AHS and the next day, they came and fixed it. They were very nice fellas, didn’t leave a mess at all, and did what they were supposed to do as AHS did as well. We signed up with AHS in the summertime. I run my own business and I want people I do business with to run their businesses in the same proficient and honest manner that I do. The previous company I was with didn't do that. My wife and I had been in the real estate business years ago and we've always recommended American Home Shield to the buyers because we knew how good they were. So, it was one of those things we did in the past, and when it came time to us to get one, that was what we did.
The contractors were very friendly, courteous and efficient. The guy that runs Bennett Appliance has been out here once before with a different company but he told me that he was now associated with AHS and his own business. He did an excellent job. He told me exactly what was wrong and fixed it in about two minutes. He also gave me his card and told me to call him back if I needed him, and I said I would. The guys from the air conditioning place told me that I didn't have a problem and explained to me why I thought I did and what was wrong. When they’re honest, that makes a difference because there are people who would tell you that they need to replace this and that and that they need to do things. Neither of the two contractors did that. They told me exactly what was wrong and fixed the problem, which I appreciate.

Before my husband passed away, he wanted me to get American Home Shield. We knew he was going to pass and we wanted to make sure that everything is taken care of and I wouldn’t get stuck if anything broke. I would be covered and I could take care of things. We have had them for almost three years and we had had to use them for the first time. So far, so good and it worked exactly the way they said it was gonna work.
HD Service Company was sent out and when he arrived at our home, he got me on the phone and I talked to him. He was very knowledgeable about what was going on and my mom said he was very nice. He went down where the issue was and made sure everything is fine before signing off. He figured out that the water flow wasn’t working properly and got it fixed. He also said that if I have any problems, we had 30 days. If I find anything else, I can call him back with no other charge. We’ve had no issues since he had been here as everything has been working great.

When I called American Home Shield, they sent a GE man out. He said that it was the motor, so they replaced the motor. A week later, it was the same problem. The same outfit came out saying that it had to be the agitator. He replaced it, but it was again the same problem. I called again, and GE came out again. They said, “Well, we gotta replace the hangers,” so they replaced all the hangers. For about a month, it was okay, and then it started all over again. So, I called American Home Shield for the fourth time. I told them I didn’t want the GE people out here even though it is a GE product. So, they sent Tarheel out here. The tech came out, looked at it, found the problem, and we haven’t had a problem since. He from did an excellent job. So, I'm very happy with them.
Overall, I’m not displeased with American Home Shield. They’ve done a great job for me. I got a new refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, washer and a dryer, and a fan. And they repaired my microwave and even put a new water heater in. But the GE people in Charlotte doesn’t know how to diagnose a problem. When they sent the non-GE people here, the problems get solved. I'm happy with AHS, and, generally, they’ve been outstanding. But this washer issue was pain for quite some time. So, instead of an A, they get a A minus.

I would like to be able to reference some of the people that American Home Shield contracts with to come versus other ones who have come in the past. The website doesn’t give me an option to do that. That is the biggest thing that I hate about the website. A lot of times in the past, what I found myself doing was just waiting on the line trying to get through to somebody because I didn’t want the website to just pick somebody. I wanted to be able to talk to somebody and say, “I had this company come out before. I like them,” or, “I don’t like this other company. Don’t ever send them back again.”
Discount Contractors came out recently for the garbage disposal as water was pouring out of the bottom of it. When the tech looked at it, he said, “This looks like the original garbage disposal from the home. I’m surprised it lasted that long." He put a new one in there. I've had them work a couple of times, and they’re really good. They come in and they identify the problem right away, they repair it and they’re out.

One day last year, I noticed the garage door wasn’t opening fully. The controller was working, but the door was going up only a little bit and then coming down because it was not able to fully open. I called American Home Shield because I have the home warranty and they sent AC Overhead Garage Door. When they came and they checked, they said that the warranty doesn’t cover it. They are very much well versed on what is covered and what is not covered. It says that the garage door opener is covered in my contract, but if one goes into the details, the spring is not covered. And the problem was with the spring. It lost the tension so the spring was not able to roll up. So, even though I had paid AHS yearly once, I still I had to pay the contractor out of pocket, which is how they make money. Yet the guy was very professional and he knew exactly what he was supposed to do.
I’m in Southern California and I’m close to Los Angeles, and the guys who are sent for any kind of electric problems come very quickly. They set up time within 24 hours and as soon as I submit the claim. But it’s not a claim and it’s not just a service ticket, because I end up paying every time. But overall, American Home Shield is good.

American Home Shield sent Wright Appliance to repair my dishwasher that didn’t work. The claim was a process because it was about a week before they came out. And then they ordered parts and had to get those approved, and then it was about another five days before they came back. Then that didn’t really fix the problem, so I had to call in, and they made a new claim. About four days later, the guy came back out, ordered more parts, had to get those approved, and we waited another four days for him to come back and put the parts in. So, all total, we had about three weeks in there. But at the end, happily, my dishwasher works. Wright is a good outfit. The people that came out are great. I wish we could have it a little more expedient, but I understand, everybody’s got issues and there’s only so many people to take care.
I just wish AHS would quit raising their parts I have to pay in every year and what I have to pay the people that come out. But they have been great. I’ve been with you them for many years. I am kinda looking around, though, because I think their stuff is getting pretty competitive as far as prices are concerned. Still, I am very pleased. Right now, it’s economic.

I've used American Home Shield since 2016 on our Dallas house. Now, we just bought a house and since we moved in, they've always been very responsive. I submitted a claim because the air conditioner would never blow any cool air, and US Air came out. We've used them in Dallas as well, and they've always been really good. They said it was a Freon leak so they put Freon in it. It only worked for a couple of days so we called them back out and they found another Freon leak and they put Freon in. They also found some kind of valve thing that was wrong so the guy replaced that.
I always submit my claims online and I just got online to submit a leaky faucet request. However, half of my contract service things are grayed out and I didn't understand why. I think there's something wrong with their website right now, but the technology usually works great. And even if I have trouble with getting a callback, if I call American Home Shield's toll-free number, they always handle it. So anytime there has been a problem, it's not like you're left hanging there. They're right on top of it. The dishwasher is messing up again but it's not the his fault.

We started out a little rocky with the claim with American Home Shield. The first provider came out and refused to do the work and then lied on their report about why they were refusing it, which made it seem like it was my fault. They were going to make me pay for somebody to come out for a second opinion. When I tried to deal with that, it took several tries to get to somebody at American Home Shield who would help me. But eventually, I got approved for a second opinion. ACLV was the second provider that came out to look at the issue and they were great. They did a lot of crawling around in my attic. It was not the easiest job, but they were able to get it done exactly how they said they would, in the amount of time and for the money that I had to do it out of pocket for. It was on target, so I was very pleased with their half of it.
However, there needs to be a better system for accountability for the providers that they do business with. I understand that all I can do as a consumer is file a complaint with American Home Shield, and then after a certain amount of complaints, they re-evaluate their relationship with that particular provider. It needs to be a little bit more transparent than that because they caused me to not have heat for two weeks in the middle of winter. So, it was a much bigger problem than just putting in a complaint and adding to an unknown list of complaints that they may have already received about that company and then not getting any follow-up about what actually happened with it.
The other trouble is you can't speak to the same person ever again at AHS, which is not surprising. They use call centers in the Philippines. There needs to be a better system when you have a major issue for it to escalate and perhaps speak to somebody in a supervisory position that is able to be contacted repeatedly, directly. I feel like the whole thing was me being bounced around the Philippines. It wasted two weeks for absolutely no reason at all. Overall though, I'm still on the satisfied end of things because we've had several claims, mostly with small stuff. That was the only major repair that we've had. Everything has been done really well. I'm happy with the furnace that was installed. It's a good service and it's worthwhile, especially in an older home like what we have.

I put in a claim for a plumbing issue and All Clear Plumbing and Drain Services came out. The claim was taken care of that day and the issue looked like it was resolved so I was happy. But then the same problem returned 2 weeks later, so I called them to come and look at it. They wanted to come yesterday but I couldn't do it, so they're coming out again on my day-off on Thursday. I've had Home Shield for at least 3 years and I've kept them as it's easy going with them. I go online for my request and they set up any appointments instead of me looking for contractors to come and look at the deal. I just click on the thing and they take care of it.
We are delighted to know that your issues are being handled in a timely manner. We do appreciate the positive feedback and we strive to make sure our customers are taken care of. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

I called American Home Shield to come check on a plumbing issue that I have with my toilet and a sink. So I paid $100 and the company came out. But the guy said he only had a service order for the toilet. He didn't have anything for the sink so he couldn't work on it. That was the first mistake American Home Shield did. So I called back and the AHS rep said sorry that the other representative hadn't put the sink on there but that they were gonna have to charge me another $100 to send another representative to come out. I paid $100 again but this time, my water heater was leaking and there was this pressure valve situation. If I was gonna pay $100, I might as well have the contractor make sure that everything was on point.
American Home Shield sent this other company to come out and the technician was great. The technician advised me that the water heater is damaged due to old age. It was like 2007. He said the water pressure valve had to be changed and I should be good after that. Then he said the reason the sink was not working was because the water pressure was too high. He said the company might not cover it because of the water pressure. I said it was no problem and I would pay to get the sink fixed myself. So they left.
American Home Shield called me and said that they were gonna fix the water pressure valve but they were not gonna fix my water heater. I thought water heaters were included in my contract though. They said yes but it looked like the reason that the water heater was damaged was because of high water pressure. I asked where they were getting this information from. I called the technician and told him what American Home Shield had said – that in the report, he stated that the water heater was damaged due to high water pressure. But he said he never said that and that the pressure had nothing to do with my water heater.
So then I was confused. He was saying one thing and American Home Shield was saying another thing. Then he said, “Listen, I’m gonna be honest with you. It’s not me. It’s actually my boss.” In fact, when I called to find out what was going on, the owner's wife had tried to sell me on the water heater. She said my water heater was damaged and that it was not gonna be covered. She said they could come out here and it was gonna cost me $1500. She told me I would need to fix it right away. I was confused then. What was the difference between me paying and the insurance paying?
The technician told me that American Home Shield pays them like a bare minimum at parts and labor. They don’t really make that much money. Since the owner, Alex, is not actually doing the work himself and he has to hire a technician to come out, they would normally split whatever the work would be. I was a little bit upset. My hot water was barely running and I have two kids in my house. I went downstairs to look at the water pressure to see what exactly it was that they were talking about and on the water heater itself, it says the maximum pressure is 150. The day that the technician came out, the water pressure was like 90 to 100. So it had nothing to do with the water pressure.
I tried to explain that to American Home Shield but they said it was whatever the technician said. They wanted the technician to actually call them. So I asked the guy if there was any way that he could call American Home Shield directly. He was yes but that if he called them directly, they were not gonna give him the work and that they would send the work to the company but that Alex wouldn't wanna do the work. I asked why and the technician said it was just not enough money. I even talked to Alex and I told him I didn't understand. It was work for him and for his employee. I asked why he was saying what he said about the water pressure. He said the technician doesn't know. But how could the technician not know? I asked why he would send the technician to my house if he doesn't know. It has been really difficult with this company and I’ve been through so much with them.
I wanted the technician to do my work. He had been very honest with me and I trusted him. I would rather give him the work myself and have American Home Shield pay him directly instead of the company. But he said it was gonna be very difficult for that to happen, that it was gonna be a problem and that he would rather not. The technician also said he would have called American Home Shield for me but Alex had told him not to call. I told American Home Shield I could call the technician on three-way. But they said the technician would have to call and they would have to send an email. It was protocol.
American Home Shield offered to have someone else come out and see what they say, and if they say something different then AHS could definitely replace the water heater. So this new company came out and said the issue is due to old age. They said exactly the same thing that the other technician had said. Okay, great. Finally, AHS is gonna fix this water heater, right? Well now, American Home Shield is saying they are approving the work order but that the technician is saying I would need $750 in upgrades. Honestly, I got a quote to replace the water heater and it was $500. So if I have insurance and the insurance is paying for the water heater and the technician's work, why is it costing me $750 more? It’s unfair. I feel like the companies don’t wanna do the work because American Home Shield is not paying enough then they would add on these extra things that the insurance doesn't cover so they can make extra money.
There’s no way with these people. It's like you're paying insurance for no reason and then you're paying all these deductibles. I had already paid two deductibles for the same work order. The warranty is like a scam. I’ve been through so much with American Home Shield and these people that they hire. I don’t think it’s real warranty. It’s just more of promoting people’s businesses and giving them a little bit of work. Then obviously, they make a commission off of each client that they send.
Yesterday, I was on the phone with American Home Shield for almost an hour and the guy said they were gonna have to escalate the case and that he would give me a call back in a couple hours. I never got a call back from anybody. My water heater is still damaged and the water pressure valve is still damaged. American Home Shield doesn’t call the new company either. The company said that they're gonna replace the water heater but they're waiting on American Home Shield to give them the okay. Even if they fix the water heater, I still have to pay like $750 out of my pocket though.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

Home Shield is worth the money. We had a dishwasher that kept blinking out of nowhere and that was all it was doing. I got online and submitted a claim. The online portion to submit a claim is so easy that I was done in under five minutes and had a phone call within the next two hours. The contractor asked for my availability. We planned out a time and he showed up. He said it was the console on the dishwasher and that he was gonna order the part. He came back out when he got the part and he put the part in. Then, he said he did a cycle and that everything was running. But two days later, my wife said it wasn't drying. The heat was coming on but it wasn't drying the right way. I texted the tech and told him about the issue. He came out again for us. He said he would take a look at it before we call Home Shield again. He was really easy to work with.

The seal on the toilet was leaking so he went and redid the seal and a few other things so that that would not happen again. He walked us through the whole thing. He knew exactly what to do. He got it done then left. We couldn't have been any more happier. We've had AHS for more than a year and we continue to keep it because it’s a lot cheaper if something happens to your home to pay the service fee than to have to pay the whole shebang.

Everything went great with my plumbing claim. AHS was very prompt in their responses. And they were punctual in coming to get a job started and completed. The contractor said it was a slab leak. So they took their time to really make sure and then they took care of it. The actual repair took just a couple of hours. I'm satisfied with the timeframe. I've been with AHS for eight months. I was with another provider, but AHS responded much better than the other provider. They were able to cover a portion of the repair, which was wonderful.

I requested a service to American Home Shield for our water heater and the guy from BestWay Mechanical Inc. came out. He got here about 9:00 and explained to us what the problem was. Some of the heating cords in the water heater need to be replaced and he replaced them. He was here between 30 minutes to an hour at the most and then he was gone. That claim went great and he did good. He was very professional and very informative. He answered all my questions.
We had another issue with my refrigerator and I know it's not AHS's fault. It's the people who came out and serviced us. The problem was, the contractor gave me a thing between 8:00 and 12:00, which was too wide to ask somebody to stay and wait in the house, and he didn't get here ‘til after 5:00. That was a whole day. He did call me though and he did it twice. He called me when he was two hours out and told me he was going to one and I was the second in line after that. And then he called me and told me he was at the last one and that I will be next.
If I'm the last one on the list, they could've called me and say, "I'm gonna call you when I'm two hours out to let you know I'm in your area or I'm on my way to your house." The contractor was very professional though and very informative. But I could have done something and been back in that same time frame, but I didn't. I just sat here and waited. That was the only thing I had a problem with. Other than that, I'm happy with American Home Shield. They are a very good company and they've always given me good service for the last 13 years.

BestWay Mechanical came out to fix the leak of a water line. When they came in the first time and checked it they said it wasn’t leaking, but I knew it was leaking. They came on a Monday and 10 minutes they were gone. The floor was too warm and that concrete wasn't supposed to be like that. Concrete is real cold. When I felt the inside of the little pantry in the bathroom it was warm in there, too. So I had to go outside where the walls were, behind the hot water heater, and that wall between the stand-up shower. And when the hot water heater is in it, it went from there to back inside, and that wall on the outside of the garage was warm, too. So I was thinking the leak got to be behind the wall and the water heater and the tub.
Two week had gone. I kept feeling the floor getting warmer and warmer. That was when I seen it through the wall. It started seeping through the wall. So I had to call back. They sent the guy in again and said the pipe was leaking up from under the slab. The damage is done now. And they ain't letting me know anything. I don’t know if they're gonna fix it or what. AHS said they were gonna get back with me, but they never did. So on that part I’m kind of dissatisfied with. The only thing I can do is call. But they don’t speak to me, or try and do something else. I've been with AHS for two months, and I wouldn't even put no claim at all. I like American Home Shield for sending the service guy here. But they're not handling it to the best way they know how.

I understand the company wants to keep me on as a customer but it took several calls and repeating myself 100x that I wanted to cancel to finally get it done. I literally had the same conversation 10 times during a 30 minute call with THE SAME representative who put me on hold multiple times only to come back and try to persuade me with the same schtick each time. Really put a terrible ending to what was a perfectly fine experience.

I called American Home Shield at the end of August 2019 because our refrigerator was no longer cooling. For the next 4 months our refrigerator was in and out of the shop 3 separate time and returned to us, only to fail again and again. AHS continues to encourage us that they would take care of us and replace the refrigerator if it continues to fail. This morning we received our second opinion and the repairmen advised us and AHS that we needed a replacement. I was so relieved that the insanity would finally end. And what does AHS do? They IGNORE the second opinion and instead call around for another company to come out and verify yet again after almost 5 months that this refrigerator cannot be fixed. Absolute insanity.
Meanwhile, my 6 children have all experienced dehydration here and there because there are no cold drinks in the kitchen (who wants to drink warm Florida tap water). I have struggled with various alternative ways to keep enough cold drinks coming throughout the day, but it is exhausting! This is pathetic AHS. I am such an idiot for continuing to pay you a monthly premium when you are not taking care of this issue in a timely manner. And I think 5 months is more than generous for a timely manner with regards to this daily necessity. We have been overly patient with you and you have not served us well. How dare you take our money and treat us this way. Furious.
Good Morning Michelle,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist you with your unresolved matters regarding this request. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield sent out Advanced Services for my refrigerator. The technician was nice and he seemed fine to me. There was something that had to be replaced in my refrigerator and a lot of money was needed to do so. It needed a new compressor and American Home Shield said it wasn't worth it. There was none available as that compressor was not made anymore. I had to go out and buy a new refrigerator. When I got the new one, they took the old one. The new refrigerator cost me over $3,000 and AHS is supposed to be giving me 2,580.
It was the end of October when I bought the new refrigerator and I've been waiting for a long time. My son faxed or emailed them the bill and stuff. That was December 4th. I then called to see what was going on and they said they didn't get anything. Meanwhile, when my son did the email, they said it was received. Now, he did it again this past Saturday and it said it was received. It's absolutely ridiculous how long I've been waiting to get my money back. Overall, I was satisfied with the contractor but I'm not too thrilled with American Home Shield.

In my last claim, the customer service was excellent and the Excellence Air technician they sent to my house was very good as well. It was not a real problem because of the air conditioner. It was just how the builder designed the house. So, the tech let me know how I need to set up the temperature and also explained why the upstairs temperature is lower sometimes.

There were a couple of outlets in my dining room that were not working. And the sconces have been going on and off. They make the breaker trip. The contractor from TWC reset the breaker. He said that it may be that if I plug in the vacuum cleaner at the same time as I have lights on in there, that could be too much. Since then, I’m doing fine on those. There was an outlet in the living room that was not working. He said that it didn’t have wiring there. We went down to the basement to see, and the basement ceiling has been finished off, and he said it would be really difficult to try to figure out where that was so that he could run more wire. So, we just kind of left that. The light fixture over my kitchenette table had been working, and then when I went to change the bulb, which was about the third time I’ve changed the bulb, it didn’t work. And so, he did something to that and it is now working.
The contractor was really good. He said to keep an eye on it, and if it happens again, he said it’s a good thing that the breaker is tripping. He wasn’t sure exactly why it was tripping. But he did check. The other two outlets that were not working were because they’re on that same thing with the sconces. Everything else was fine. And hopefully, when my light over the table that's got a bulb in it now goes out, I hope that I don’t have a problem when I put in a new bulb.
I’ve told both of my neighbors that I have American Home Shield, and that it’s worked out really well. I did have one thing with the boiler. I’ve got a boiler system that Airmax fixed, and the only issue that I had with American Home Shield on that is it took a long time. At first, they put me with a company that did not work on steam heat boilers. The prompt that I had said gas. And it is powered by gas, but when it goes through the system, it converts the stuff to steam to go through some radiators. So, that kinda slowed things down. Then, the Airmax guy was able to come like December 30th. That was like five days after because I had called right after Christmas. When it was the wrong people trying to get me with an appointment, a new person had to be found, and AHS found Airmax.
He was able to come on December 30th, but because of the paperwork then it was the 1st of Jan. I finally got a call in the morning of the 3rd.It took a special technician to replace the pump, and he didn’t have any availability until the 9th. So, I was without heat downstairs for about 12 days. I had my dad who was staying with me over the holidays, and he’s 90 years old. Upstairs, I have a regular forced air heating and cooling system, but not on the first floor. And so, he pretty much had to stay upstairs the whole time. I just brought our meals up to us, and we ate in my upstairs TV room. And I had to do that for 12 days. It was too cold for him to be downstairs. One pump was working, and so that gave me a little tiny bit of heat downstairs, but it was like 60. The good thing was that the weather was cooperating pretty much. In Ohio, it was like 50s, which was pretty good. Otherwise, my house was pretty well-insulated.
There are two companies that I usually use for some things. John’s Plumbing does my annual inspection, and if I have any plumbing work that I thought wouldn’t be a claim under American Home Shield, they’ve done that. I had faucet handles installed after I had the sinks re-glazed. And that wouldn’t have been warrantied, but I was asking them about American Home Shield. The other is Herald’s Appliances. Neither one of them was very interested in working with AHS. It had something to do when they would be paid. Normally, if I have somebody that’s not under a warranty, they get paid immediately through me. If AHS could find somebody else that could be on their list for doing steam heat boilers, that would be great. Other than that, everybody’s been super professional when they come. So, I like that.

I had an air conditioning trouble in July and I went 23 days without air conditioning. I moved in the house 5 years ago, so I had no idea how old the air conditioner was, but they ran the serial number and found out it was 18 years old. AHS didn’t wanna replace the unit and just wanted to replace the compressor. And the air conditioning guy said, “If they had replaced the whole, you would’ve at least had a warranty, and it would’ve been about the same cost.”
Then, the knob of the water faucet in my bathtub I had upstairs broke and I could not shut off the water. The way they handled that whole thing ended up costing me a lot of money. The contractor that was sent out took a few days to actually get the faucet replaced. And because they had to splice in the new knob to the old pipe, they charged me an extra amount, which was crappy. They had to cut out a big area to get to the pipes. They tore out the wall and the tiles, and I had to get all that replaced. That’s one other thing that cost me more for that repair ‘cause they don’t do anything on putting the tiles back up. Also, my old knob was chrome but the new one they put on was plastic. They put a new stout and new shower head, but the whole thing is all plastic so I would see how long they would last.
The only thing that was done that I’ve been very pleased with was the clog in my drain that got resolved within an hour. Lubbock A-1 Plumbing came out after I called it in and they unclogged the drain. That was really good. I've been a customer of American Home Shield for 3 and a half years and it was only this summer when I had my first claim. Still, I’m not really happy with AHS right now. I also have to pay $100 service fee every time they come out. So, I’ve already been talking to some of my neighbors and I’ve gotten some names of another home warranty company that seems very reliable that I may change over to.
Your AHS feedback is more than appreciated and I hope you continue to enjoy!

I used to be with Choice Warranty and I had so much trouble with them, so I got rid of them. American Home Shield came with no problem. They solved my problem without any hesitation, and I'm glad that I changed over to them. They acted very fast, which to me is very important. I had a plumbing issue right before Christmas eve and I had a problem with the toilet. American Home Shield put in a call with one company and that company couldn't come until a week after. So, they put in another call with another company which showed up with no problem at all. The company came and replaced the seal in no time.
Great Salpi! That's exactly what we like to hear. We appreciate you taking time to share your AHS experience. Have an amazing weekend.

Everything has been super good with American Home Shield and we're happy with everything except for Keith, whom they sent out for a leak in a pipe. He said that AHS wanted all pipes replaced and it was gonna be $2,000. He said we should either pay him $1,000 now and then $1,000 later. We gave him a check and we signed the contract. But AHS, as well as the police, couldn't find him. The contract had his address in Jefferson City and the police went out there twice. Nobody lives there. The police in our county have looked. Every time he was supposed to be out here in the morning. I would call and he would be in Sevierville. So, we tried getting in touch in Sevierville. AHS hired him and we trusted him because they sent him.
AHS took out 200 and paid him for what he said he bought to fix it, and he took that also out of the $1,000. He took the $75. He charged AHS hypothetically $50 for a thing and he had everything listed that he had paid for what AHS had ordered. I'm dissatisfied with that, and it has taken a few calls to get that last thing fixed. AHS should know who they're sending, do a background to find out if they are legal, honest and trustworthy. The man who came out here for the garbage disposal had it fixed and there wasn't anything wrong with it. Whoever put it in, wired it wrong. All he had to do was rewire it, and it works fine. Also, when we had a plumbing issue, it went fine but American Home Shield took out $100 three times and they haven’t called back.

I have two properties with American Home Shield and we go online when submitting claims. The website is user-friendly. One of the things I don’t like about it is that you don’t get to choose a vendor. It just kind of tells you who you’re gonna use. I had a claim where King Electric Contracting came out to our home. We were having our lights kinda flicker every once in a while, just every so often, so we wanted to be sure that all of the electrical with regards to the switches for the first floor were working correctly. They made one repair and then had to come back out for a second repair. It was a little bit of a hassle. The technician ended up just taking off the light switches and making sure all the connections were stable. It’s been good since then.
Good afternoon Jorge,

My claim with American Home Shield where Mason Mechanical came out went very well. I'm sort of new to having heat pump and electric heat so I've had some concerns considering it was getting to be winter here. The gentleman who came out was extremely polite and very knowledgeable. I'm partly an engineer, and so I understood what he was talking about. He was very good. And they're just 30 miles away so I know if I have a problem, I can get help right away.
I went online and scheduled the appointment. And then, I got a text message back that Mason was the contractor and if I wanted to call them, I could. One of the things about American Home Shield's website, they say, "What is your nature of your problem?" They really don't give you any space to really describe it. They give you a contractor who then wouldn't know if what was wrong with my system was normal or not normal or an emergency or not. I was in technology all my life. The ability to describe what the problem is online might be more helpful to whoever they assign it to as opposed to just saying, "I have a problem with my heating system." I can't remember exactly what the interface was but it didn't leave much room to say, "This is what my concern is." But the whole process worked. They got me through to a contractor right away so I was very happy.
My need turned out to be satisfied more by education than anything else. And that was worth the $75 to me. I didn't mind that at all. When I called them up, I spoke with two representatives before the technician came out. They were both women, and they were both knowledgeable. After I described to them what was going on, within two hours, somebody was here. I got the impression from them that my concern was not an emergency but they just said, "Okay, we'll schedule it for today." And they did. I bought this townhouse in January of 2019, so I've had AHS for a year now. It was part of the package when I bought the house. And so, I renewed it. My major concern is the heating system because it's 15 years old so if it fails, I'd like to have some insurance on it.

American Home Shield has a good website. If you’re familiar with your appliances in the home, the website is very user-friendly. You just go in and hit the dropdown and what appliances you have. It’s much better than what it used to be. So, it’s easy to go through and have it processed now. Once you put your issue in, usually within a few hours or maybe even the next day, they let you know which company is gonna come out. And then they’ll also let you know that the company’s gonna contact you within 24 hours. I had a problem with my dryer so I went online, and American Home Shield dispatched the next available person on the list of whomever they have contract with.
Shenandoah Appliance Plumbing and Electric contacted me over the telephone to let me know that they had received the service order. They also let me know that if it was something that could be repaired, that they may have to order the part and come back in a few days. And then, they let me know the scheduled appointment time. It’s usually a four-hour window. But they gave a 30-minute heads-up call to let me know that they were en route. When they were finally here, they advised me what they found wrong. The circuit board was broken and non-repairable, so they sent their recommendation in to American Home Shield. They also indicated it would be a few days before I was to hear back from American Home Shield. It did take American Home Shield about 3 days to let me know what their recommendation was for the repair of the appliance, and they wound up replacing the dryer.
I've been protected by American Home Shield since 2006. At that time, there weren’t very many providers available. Yet, so far, I’ve never had any problems with them. They’ve always been very quick to send someone out to the home within a day or two. If I have something goes wrong over the weekend, they usually try to have someone contact me first thing Monday morning. So, American Home Shield is a great company.
That's exactly what we like to hear Paula. Thanks for sharing your AHS experience. We look forward to handling your home warranty needs. Have an amazing weekend.

Our toilet was clogged. The first company that American Home Shield sent out did absolutely nothing. He never came in our home and he never touched a toilet. He went in the street and out back where the hole is for. He put a snake in it, and he said he only had so many foot snake. He was told exactly where the pipe goes on the floor, and the man said that he gotta go back and get some more equipment. We asked him if he wanna try to flush that down our toilet instead of out in the street, and he said he gotta get other equipment. He said he would be coming back, but he never did. We called the company and asked when he was coming back. They said he was out here and he marked on the paper that he fixed it. He also said that this is an apartment complex, but we live in a one story townhouse. He ripped us bad and he ripped off American Home Shield too.
The second company that sent out was Water Wise. The gentleman came out, he listened, and he flushed. He was so professional. He took his time and he got the job done. He also took the cleanout off of our tub and ran it down, and knocked some hair loose under the tub that connected to the toilet area. He cleaned all that out. Now, when we run the water in here, it's going out like nobody’s business. I was so happy, and I tipped him 20 bucks. He worked so hard, and he closed the claim. American Home Shield should use this young fellow and Water Wise. They should get rid of the other company. I don’t even want the other company out here. They should put Water Wise on my contract. That’s who I want every time.

The technician that AHS sent for our recent claim was very good. He took care of my problem and made me happy. And as far as American Home Shield goes, I’m happy with the service. The only thing is it’s costing me a lot of money to have it. It costs me $56 a month. When I started with them, I was paying 45. They jacked me up $10 a month. My wife and I are 75 years old and we can’t do a lot of things that younger people wanna attempt to try. And as far as knowing people to do certain things for you, we don’t have that, so we have to rely on outside help, some professionals like the heating or air conditioning or the plumbing. So, this is why even though it’s costing money, it’s an insurance policy that we have something to go to. If I have a problem, I know within a couple days, it’s gonna be resolved. Their service is good and I’m not disappointed. And the contractors that they sent were all good.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

American Home Shield is really a nice company. They always do everything quickly. When I call, they always take my request really quickly too. The process of submitting a claim with them is good. They sent Big Al's recently and everything went okay with the claim. However, AHS has to send some plumber. They're supposed to fix the water by the sink because every time I turn on the garbage disposal, the water goes on the other sink. It wasn’t like that before. When I used the garbage disposal, the water would go in the dishwasher. A tech came to fix the hose and he was a really nice guy. I think he can fix the issue, but he said he cannot and my insurance has to send somebody else. He said he's gonna send the request to AHS, but it’s been a week and I've never heard from anybody from them. We already paid the $100 fee so we don’t have to pay again because it’s supposed to be a follow-up.

I've been with AHS for 12 years and when I don't like something, they take care of it. So for example if the contractor comes and he does a terrible job, and obviously doesn’t wanna be here and talks down to me, I give AHS a call and let them know we don’t want those guys in our house anymore and if AHS can put them on the do-not list. And AHS always does. If I call and say, “Hey, they’re on the do-not list.” AHS would always say, “Okay. We’ll get another one.” So I like that about AHS, and I like that it’s quick.
It’s always the same in terms of AHS getting it right. So it’s not like, “Oh, gosh. They got it wrong. They charged my card and we told you guys that we canceled the appointment.” If we canceled the appointment, we don’t have to check our bank account and say, “Oh, they charged us." They are always willing to work with us. Even though the price went up drastically and doubled we still saved. My husband was with the plumber the entire time. He unclogged the plumbing, did a good job and left. He didn’t chastise, while some contractors need to chastise you.
Tyra,
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

There was something stuck up in one of the washer's compartments, that was clogging and it wasn’t letting anything drain. I filed a service request online. I’m usually doing it from work, and it’s a lot easier. After I initially submitted, it was two days later at 8:30 in the morning that a tech came. He took apart what was clogged, and replaced the piece with a new piece that’s more recent so it won’t happen again and then explained what was wrong, what my daughter had put in there that shouldn’t have been put in there and how we can wash smaller things.
He was only out here for about 20 minutes to half an hour. That was very quick. The tech was very nice and a very patient guy. I didn't feel stupid asking him stuff. Everything’s great. My mom has a load of clothes in it now, and we haven’t had any problems with it. This is the first home that I’ve owned and American Home Shield was the best choice that I made because it takes the worry out if something goes wrong. That was my biggest reason for staying in an apartment, where you could just call maintenance. So, this is like my personal maintenance service.

I had an appliance issue and everything went okay with my claim on it. I thought my dryer was broken because it's not drying, but the contractor from Surfside said it wasn't. But he did fine with the washing machine, and he was very nice and very helpful. I've had Home Shield for years, and they've changed a lot of their policies from good to bad. I'm not planning on renewing next year.
Home Shield should not outsource to people that can't understand English. They were foreign. I speak another language, so it's not that I am prejudiced. Home Shield had some kind of a special about cleaning out the dryer vents. They couldn't understand English, they kept cancelling appointments, and I never had the vents cleaned out. I don't like the outsourcing at all and the policy where I can't pay the people that come in. When I called, they said I could still give the money to the technician. When I tried to give it to Surfside, they would not take it and said, "We can't take it." American Home Shield said I could do it, so I have a way to check now.
I paid Home Shield, but I don't like to pay by credit card. There's no way I could pay it. I liked it when they had the option. Now, I did have a thing where I paid these people when they said I didn't. But I had the cancellation tracked, so it was not a problem for me. But I really like paying the $75 to the technician. Another thing is, when I was up for renewal, people called me and they offered me some kind of a program. Nobody really cares anymore whether you renew or not. I guess they spent all their money on TV ads now, so they don't need to worry about the customers.
I apologize for the inconvenience we have caused you Joann. My name is Stacy & I will contact you to make sure your issue is resolved.

If I call in a claim, it takes too long and I’m on hold for about 30 minutes. Submitting online is a little bit quicker. In a recent claim, Kelly Brother’s came out to install my fixture on the same day and so I like them. But I’m still dealing with my claim for the washer that started in December. American Home Shield sent out Texas Plumbing last week but there still has been no resolve on the hot water situation. They don’t know what’s going on and it’s obvious they couldn’t do it.
I have had coverage with American Home Shield going on 9 years now and the service could always be better. It used to be $65 but I'm also noticing that everything is going up including the service fee. I don't like that I pay people, then do not get any resolve. But I like to pay $100 when it’s said and done. I understand how they gotta operate in order to get someone out there and pay for it, but I don’t understand how it’s going up.

The main line was still filling up the hot water thing, but there was no hot water. And when you turn on all the faucets in the house, the hot water side, we wouldn’t get any water. So, all that water was just running underneath the house. My daughter and her husband, and our granddaughter were here. So, nobody could take a bath until that was fixed.
Crouch Plumbing came out and we didn’t know it had been leaking until we heard it. He replaced a piece of pipe. It’s a plastic pipe like they do on these new homes. And he had to crawl all the way from one side to the other side of the house, towards our hot water. It was on the hot water line, not on the main line. When he crawled out, he told me what it was, but he said he didn’t have the right size pipe to fix it, and he was gonna go back to Crouch and get the pipe. He also said that he couldn’t do anything until AHS approved what he was gonna do. He was gone 30 minutes. I told my wife, “It’s gonna be dark, he won’t come back.” But he came and fixed it and we were able to get hot water back up before it got dark. We’ve always used Crouch and it was a real good service.

My experience with Home Shield was not that good. It was my first time in the years that I was with the service that I called to do a claim. The door handle on my microwave was hanging. So, I called and I said, “Well, I need somebody to come in and fix this door.” The guy from JEA’s Appliance came and he said, “Well, you know, we cannot fix this door. I’m gonna report that they need to change the whole microwave because we cannot fix this door.” The next thing I know, Home Shield called me and said they’re not gonna change it because it had to be broken or fall off the door. I told them I don't wanna wait for that because it’s not safe. Somebody can get their hand on that handle and break it, and then there's gonna be an accident. They said, “Well, there’s nothing we can do.” I said, “Oh, okay.” So, we hang up.
Somebody called me later and said they could do something else. They could send another guy from another company. And by then, I was very upset because I couldn't believe what they told me. And I said, “I will explain to you guys that I don’t wanna wait for somebody to get the door in their hands and broken because if an accident happen, I have to sue you guys. I don’t wanna wait for that.” The same person told me, “There’s nothing we can do. The only thing we can do is offer you that another guy come and then let’s see what the other one say.” I said, “Well, what about he come out with the same thing?” He said, “Well, we’re still gonna wait that the door fell or broken.” I told him it’s a waste of time then and I asked him to cancel my policy. And that’s what happened.
I paid $75 for the guy to come and check, and they covered the $75 before the guy came, and it’s still my money is not refundable. I asked them if it’s not fixable and they did not do anything, why are they gonna keep my money. And they said, “Because that’s the policy.” I’m very unhappy with Home Shield because I've paid more than three years and a half and then when I called for a simple change, maybe a $200 microwave, they gave me hard time. I’m very disappointed. So, I talked to a co-worker and she has another insurance. I’m not working right now, but when I go back, she’s supposed to give me the phone number. I’m gonna get another insurance. My home is not that old, so I don’t need a lot of stuff. But just to be safe, I want to be covered by Home Shield. But I couldn’t believe the way they responded.
Maria,
I am sorry that we were not able to offer a resolution that you were pleased with while the contract was active. We hope this experience does not deter you from considering AHS in the future for your home warranty needs.

I joined American Home Shield around October 2019, and we have submitted three claims. It took me a minute to figure it out that I needed to do it seemingly online. And once I figured it out, it was easy to do. It was a little bit confusing, however, when we had to call their contractor back for our toilet. The guy from Lone Star said that if we would have any problem, the repair is guaranteed for two months. He said I could call them back but make sure to do it before the two months is up, otherwise, I would have to pay again. And I had to call them back because I was still having problems. It was over the holiday, and when I finally got a hold of them, they told me I had to go back to American Home Shield. I tried to do it on the computer but you couldn’t find there like if the contractor had come already and you’re in the report. So then, I just read between the lines to find a number to call. So, that was not real easy, but I did it.
The same guy was sent out and he said maybe he missed what he needed to do the first time because his foot was bothering him. But he was really nice, and the toilet is fixed now. He showed it to me and what he did was an easy fix. It would be nice, though, if they can make it one call and it’s fixed. On our first claim, the contractor brought out a garbage disposal that wasn’t the correct size, so we had to wait a couple of days. If they think that they’re gonna have to replace the garbage disposal, it might be helpful to ask what kind I have so that they would have it when they come. The only person who didn’t have to come back was the guy who did the electrical when there was something wrong with our dryer. He fixed it with no problem.
We do apologize it may have been a tough time with the online feature, however we are pleased to know your issue was handled. Thank you for sharing your experience and providing feedback. We take pride in knowing our consumers were handled. Thank you.

Making claims with American Home Shield is pretty easy, but sometimes, they generalize the problem. When I say, “Hey, I have this problem,” they don’t give the full information to the people they send out. It’s hard to communicate with them on the phone because it’s a call center overseas. They don’t seem to understand what I’m saying a lot of the times. When you call in an issue, the people receiving the call should really understand what it is. And if it’s not covered, they should tell you right then instead of making you pay $75, then somebody comes out and just leave and don’t do anything.
One of the plumbing companies is not allowed in my house anymore, because he came in, saw the problem and went to his truck. Said he’d be right back and never came back, then wrote a false report with American Home Shield. Today, I’m waiting on another plumber to come out, and hopefully this one doesn’t run out the door. But Hopwood was great. They came here, we told them what the problem was and within a few minutes, they fixed the issue.

My first repair with AHS was for the microwave oven, which was not very favorable. After I placed the call, I had to wait to make an appointment for the vendor to come in another week. Then they had to come out, take the microwave apart and order the parts. Then another week went by. It took close to three weeks before they had everything finished. I wrote online that I didn't see any reason why the parts couldn't be FedExed. The vendor told me that AHS wouldn't pay.
However, the call I made for the plumbing worked out very well. When I submitted the claim, AHS gave me the time frame when the contractor would call. Aladdin's Plumbing came out and they were professional and answered all my questions. There was a leak in the back of the toilet and the tech had to replace a pipe and a valve. He had the parts on the truck so there was not a problem.

Every time I use AHS, I'm fine. I've been with them for about 20 years and they've replaced the air conditioner and the hot water heater. Their contractor came in and did what they had to do to take care of the problem. For my refrigerator claim, AHS sent Lucas Appliance. The contractors were very courteous and cleaned up behind themselves. However, the repair lasted for about a week. After that, the freezer started freezing up on the coils again. They came back, figured out that the parts were manufactured upside-down and turned it around. They also had to buy another part. The other part froze up and when that happened, not only did the freezer stop, but the refrigerator side also did. They also repaired the ice maker. But for some reason, it won't stop making ice. I'll observe it today and tomorrow and see if it functions correctly. If it doesn't, then I'm gonna make a call.

The pool pump was broken and water was squirting out all over the place, and all the water was draining out of the pool and the spa. It was a big deal so we had to turn everything off. I filed a claim to American Home Shield and they sent out Brent’s Pool Repair. They took care of everything and everything worked out great. They had to replace a filter thing and the actual pool pump too, because that was what was doing the horrible sound, which sounded like a nuclear explosion. They came two days in a row because the big giant blow-up happened after the first day, and then the water was squirting all over the second day. They had a total of two visits, and they repaired it beautifully. American Home Shield has been great for me. Every time I’ve needed them, they've sent good people. That was why we pay them and like them.

We had a leaky faucet in the bathroom tub and Absolute Plumbing Plus came out. The guy called not very long after I made the referral to AHS and he was really nice. He asked, "Can you tell me what kind of instrument it is?" And I told him it was not two faucets but just one. He said that it was no problem and that he would be arrive after lunch since he had another appointment. When he came, he had fixed it and he was very gracious. It was perfect and we were very pleased.
We also have had problems with our refrigerator. The icemaker wasn't working and then we found water under the refrigerator. Even the defrost wasn't working properly. But we've more or less taken care of that. The appliances seemed to have some age on them, being at least 10 years, and we found a deal for where we're getting all of our appliances changed out. So, everything else seems good. We have no complaints at all but are appreciative of AHS.
I'm happy to know that we were able to resolve your claims. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have an amazing weekend.

The technician was nice and polite, and we just showed him what was wrong and he came and fixed it. There was one part that he didn’t have that he had to order, and then he came back. All said and done, it took about three weeks to get everything fixed.

We had issues with our pool heater and had paid extra for pool coverage. An unqualified tech was sent out the first time after paying the 125.00 copay. He gave a false report that made no sense to the problem that Home Shield listened to. We fought it and they sent a second guy from another company at not charge who said nothing like the first one yet home shield continued to say the original issue was the issue. Very dissatisfied with the communication on the claim. Chat tech was kind and authorized a refund of the money spent on these false claims. The company feels like a scammer.

We bought a house in April and purchased the most expensive warranty that is supposed to cover just about “everything”. Our kitchen faucet had a leak underneath so I filed a claim with American home shield to have it fixed, it took over a month to get an appointment set up and much to my surprise, when they finished the job I had to pay $473 upfront to the plumbing company, and I had to purchase my own faucet which was over $200. I called AHS and they said they would mail me a check for a lousy $205 when I spent $700 just for a leaky sink thanks to their contractors. I still have not seen a dime from AHS 6 weeks later. Also, they are just about impossible to get ahold of.

For seven months that I've been American Home Shield, the contractors that they've sent out were not all satisfactory. Sometimes, you don't get the right contractor or the right skill set. To be honest, the pool timer issue cost me two claims and it shouldn't have been. The first time I called in five months ago, I told the guy the pool timer keeps changing the time. And he insisted, "Oh, no, no. There is nothing wrong with it." And he did whatever he did to get the air out of the system, which is not a big deal. I could've done that myself. And then, I just left it the way it is. When I submitted a request this time, I was hoping I won't get Competition Pools again, and I got Alex Pool Services, which was better. I was happy it's at least a different person. He called me the very next morning and we agreed on the time, which was the following day, and he was here on time. He replaced the pool timer and it's working now. He's good and I'm satisfied.

He had the guy come over and put in two new thermostats and two new blowers for my furnace, and one other deal.
When one of my water heaters blew up and had to be fixed, it wasn't long after that the other one went out. When I put a claim in, I put it in for two water heaters. When you push on the button on the little control panel of the microwave, it fell back into the microwave. It just pushed back like it was out of its bracket. I submitted a claim online and the website was easy to navigate. They told me who the contractor was and said he would contact me that day. The tech from Better Baker Appliance Repair did a great job. He was fast, splendid and he knew what he was doing. He had called me and asked me what was going on with the microwave. And he ordered the part before he even make the trip. He had the pieces. Evidently, this happens a lot when somebody happens to push the button a bit too hard. It has a little really small clips holding the panel in place and they break real easy.
I've been with American Home Shield since we bought the house back in 2017. I just knew about them. I heard about them. I have some friends that did use them and said they were good. My experience was fine. As soon as the tech got the part in, he called me to set up an appointment, he came in and he fixed it. He was in and out in no time.

I go online and request service on AHS's website which is very good to me in terms of user-friendliness. AHS usually tells me who the contractor is gonna be and that contractor would then contact me within 24 hours of me submitting my request. Sometimes, they contact me on the same day I filed the claim. The techs have always been professional and make sure the work is done the way it's supposed to. Also, I have 30 days to call them back for the same issue at no extra cost.
I had a spa issue one time and AHS sent MJMM to handle the claim and they were very good. They had me send a picture of the equipment so that they could see what kind of equipment I had before coming out. They did that so that they could try to come out with the proper replacement part. However, there was so many pieces to my equipment that they decided to come out in person and check it out. I needed a new motor and they replaced what I had. Things have been absolutely perfect since then. With AHS, everything in my contract is always adhered to.

The refrigerator and part of my house had leaked real bad. It's an old refrigerator, it looks like crap, but it's been working great. I thought the compressor was bad. A previous business called Quality Appliance Repair came out and the tech said there was nothing he could do. He took some pictures. He wanted to get off. It was before New Year's. He didn't do anything because he said the compressor is hot. A tech from Holiday Business Group came to check out the compressor, but he didn't replace the compressor. He just put something on there. I don't know what it was exactly, but it was about three or four inches long, round cylinder. He said that it was magic because the new refrigerators today have it and the older ones like this one do not. He said it will protect my compressor plus it will make it work again, and it did.
I normally call in when I submit claims to American Home Shield and their customer service reps have been great. There was one named Jennifer and I love her. She is so good. I don't know how, but three times in a row that I called, I got her. Their contractors come out within three to four days on average, unless it's an emergency. But with Holiday Business Group, they were out the next day. This was kind of an emergency because I was gonna lose a lot of frozen food, which I did lose some. But I have another refrigerator in my garage that I was able to transfer it to, so I didn't lose everything. But if I call and say, "Something's going on with the freezer. I'm losing food," they'd say, "We'll be out about three days." What am I supposed to do? I know they have emergency situation and I don't take advantage of that. But it's my responsibility to let them know the situation because they can't read my mind.
I really need to talk to AHS about a previous claim. I had a contractor out about a month and a half ago for our furnace. We have a dual furnace. It's a gas and heat pump. He got it up running. He replaced a gas valve in it and said that everything is fine. But everything is not fine. We keep our grandchildren five days a week, and we've had a lot of cold weather lately in North Carolina. They made an adjustment on thermostat. So when the kids get there at 6 o'clock in the morning, it's warm. But it's not working. It worked for two or three days, and whatever he did not do, he didn't fix the problem. I shouldn't have to pay another claim fee to get them back out to repair the same thing. But maybe too much time has gone by, but sometimes these things may work for a week or two, and then it goes right back to the same thing. Luckily, we have a gas fireplace, and so we cranked that on this morning to warm it up, but I shouldn't have to do that.
The quality of some of the people is one of our major complaints with AHS. I like Holiday Business Group, but they just do appliances. I'm not saying that some of the groups they send out aren't qualified. I just don't think they are diagnosing the problem properly. They make their money by the number of calls they make, plain and simple. So, I think they're rushing through it and not diagnosing it properly. I need somebody back out there to fix this ongoing problem. I'm just gonna call AHS because my wife's all over my face about it. But overall, I've been very satisfied.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for 10 years and with one exception, they’ve always had very courteous and professional people whose interest was fixing the problem that I called them for. They asked if I had any other thing in their practice area that I wanted them to look at when they were here and they tried to do as much as they could. They also answered questions and made suggestions to how to prevent this from happening again. Their system is prompt on getting the recommended service tech to come out, plus it gives me an option and contact information if I need to talk to them and explain what’s going on. With this one, they gave me the plumber, whom I called them and told them what the problem was and what brand of faucet I had so that they could bring the parts that might be needed for that faucet. It saves a lot of multiple trips when I can do that.
The plumber from Plumb & Order didn't have to remove the cultured marble surround that goes around my Whirlpool bathtub although I thought he was gonna have to. I have no idea how he was able to do it but he completed the repair and removed the blockage from one of the waterlines that froze the valves. I couldn’t turn the hot water on, and I didn't wanna take a cold water Whirlpool bath. The tub had not been used in probably 15 years and so, after he got it where it ran some water out, a bunch of crud came out. But he did a great job and I was very pleased with him.

The upstairs bathroom toilet wasn't filling up so I filed a claim to American Home Shield. The tech from Kenbridge Plumbing and Drain Cleaning Co that came out was on time and was very professional. He told my husband what he did and everything is performing fine now. That experience was great! But there have been bad experiences that I've had since we've had the plan. We've had to replace the whole new air conditioner because they said that certain parts were not covered. They had one person come out and said the parts were covered, then they had someone else come out and said the parts were not covered.
Generally, American Home Shield's service is great. If you're having some small problems like garbage disposal or toilets not working, they're fine. But anything big, they're not okay. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I don't even go through them. I go ahead and call somebody out and ask them to go ahead. It's because when I paid them $100 to come out and fix, I know that it's not gonna be covered. They'd find a way not to cover it. I'm still waiting for American Home Shield right now to reimburse me for fixing an air conditioner for the parts that they said they would pay. That was almost two years ago. Their customer service basically said to me that they don't handle that. They said they'd get it to a supervisor, but the supervisor never called back. You couldn't be mad at the customer service rep because they were just doing what they were told to do.
It has been about two years since we got an air conditioning. We had one of the units that went out and they covered that. There were parts that we even called an independent person out there. They called American Home Shield and told them exactly what was going on and AHS would say they'd come in. We sent the bill in where they were supposed to cover the part, but we never heard from them. We never received a check or reimbursement. There was even a time that we did have a toilet that didn't work in the bathroom. There was something that went on with it. AHS said that because something happened, we were responsible for it. And so, I have replaced that whole new toilet in the bathroom, and my home is only four years old. The paperwork is vague. It's not something that is on there that says it's not covered and instead of fighting with American Home Shield, we just went ahead and paid for the toilet to be replaced.
Good morning Christi,
I would like to thank you for providing American Home Shield with such positive feedback about your most recent experience.

I just purchased a home and I've had American Home Shield for a month now. They have a recognizable name which everybody has heard of, but, more importantly, their coverage is phenomenal compared to a couple of different providers I looked at. I don’t have issues with submitting a claim but I had issues with getting it enacted. It took a long time for me to get the policy activated, at least two weeks after I closed on the house. I couldn’t access stuff and it was a long time enough that I started **. But it was fine once they fixed it. Everybody was nice and helpful.
Aim High came out for an electric issue and everything was fixed. I was happy with it. I even got his card to do some rewiring work that’s not a warranty issue. I would recommend the guy. I also had someone come out because the garage door openers don’t work. The guy was accusatory and said, “Oh, I find it interesting that you just got this warranty, and all of a sudden, both of your garage door openers don’t work.” I said, “Dude, I just closed on the house. I bought this policy because of the coverage. What do you think a freaking policy is for?” But it’s just a bender. And he never fixed them. He was supposed to go and get some little part that would fix them and put it in but he never did. He filed some weird report like I’m scamming the company. It was very weird but I wasn’t worried about it. So, the garage door opener was not fixed and I had to deal with that again.
Even though I've been critical about one contractor, every party that goes out to a house is a different person. It was the guy's fault and not American Home Shield’s fault. While there was a glitch in getting my policy set up, I’d still buy the policy over any other. Other than that, I have no issues with American Home Shield and I would recommend them too.
Good afternoon Sue,

The way the system is now, if you don’t buy something from a particular dealer or company, they won’t service it. With a warranty, I don’t have to worry about that. My washer made all kinds of noises when it brought in water and when I called AHS and spoke to someone, I was very pleased. The technician from Apex explained everything and showed me the part that was messed up as well. However, I asked the company for a copy of what was charged, how long it took, what was replaced and I have yet to receive it. I didn’t sign anything and nothing was left with me. The other companies I've dealt with left me with something.
Still, I've had AHS for five years and I’m very pleased with the service. There’s never an issue and I know they don’t want anything negative on their records, so they’re going to do their job versus me calling American Home Shield having a complaint. That's a plus for me. When we got confused with the time they told to come and do the service, I called the company. I told them what’s what and the rep said they're gonna take care of it.

I had a real bad experience with one contractor, and when I see their company pop up, I just call up American Home Shield and say, “Do not send this person to my house.” I recently had a plumbing issue, and Hers & His was prompt. I've had them out before and I've never had a problem with them.

I have a friend that has American Home Shield. I've been there a couple of times when people came by because we worked at her house. So, I've seen the process in action and I know how it works. What their contractors do is they come, they inspect, and then, they get a price point, "Okay, do we fix or do we replace?" Then they let you know and then they do whichever is the one they decide. Three weeks ago, I filed a claim to American Home Shield for the first time and they sent out National Platinum Service. The tech who came out was there for 10 minutes, looked at my range and left. He said that they had put the paperwork in and I hadn't heard back from them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

My friend that lives with me was trying to clean the oven, and when she pushed the self-cleaning thing and then turned the knob over and something didn’t go. Also, the microwave didn't work and the first guy that came out fixed it. American Home Shield is good, except for paying $75 every time they have someone come out. The microwave and the oven were on the same party so I shouldn’t have to pay $75 for each. Each time that you have a need, if they’re separate, you have to pay $75.

When I submitted a claim with AHS, the contractor was here the next day at 10:30. He was very helpful and explained what was going on and how I could improve the performance of the dishwasher. I prefer to wash by hand and he told me what I should do to make sure that the motor stays effective. So once a week, I run it. AHS is very efficient and I would recommend it.

I had some electrical issues with some lights in my house. I submitted a service request online through the AHS website and it was fine, I’ve used it before. I was given the option to either call the contractor myself and set up an appointment, or I could wait for them to call me. And I called them. #1 R&R Electric Allstar was perfect. Everything has been great now. I've been protected with American Home Shield since I bought the house in April. I’ve worked in realty and they’re the best ones that I like to work with. I would not own a house without it and I’ve referred them to several of my friends.

S & S Appliance came out for the heater element on the dryer. They replaced it and it’s working now. Someone came out just a couple of days after I submitted a claim online. My only concern was they had to come out twice. They came out the first time to look at it, and since I had already said that it looked like it was the heater element, I expected them to have brought something with them just to be on the safe side and knock it out in one shot. But he came out and said, “It’s the heating element.” And then he rescheduled another one which was a week later. And so, I had to schedule time away from work to make sure that I was there for that. The tech was fine though. He was very professional, knew what he was doing and made sure everything was cleaned up afterwards. I would definitely use American Home Shield again. I also have them for my other house that I have.

American Home Shield has taken care of everything I’ve had so far this year. I filed a claim for an electrical issue because a plug burned up. The process was pretty easy. They assigned Hopwood Electric for the claim and they called about a day later then worked the visit into my schedule. It was about three days after I called that they were out there and that wasn’t because they were dragging their feet. That’s when it worked for me. The guy who came out was great and he replaced the plug.

I asked them to email me and they told me they couldn’t do that. But everything with American Home Shield was good.

I went with American Home Shield because my air conditioner is old and American Home Shield can replace the whole thing if something goes wrong with it, rather than just fixing it. If they can’t fix it, then they replace it. And that’s a very expensive item to replace, so I thought I’d rather pay a little extra for their fee than have that problem.
Our recent claim was with Summit Plumbing and this is the third time he's been out. He replaced that part, and after that, it still had the same problem. It was shaking so hard that it cracked the panel that goes on the other side of the tub. He said it’s the machine. They don’t make them like they used to. And part of being computerized and part of it, he can fix, but then the rest is out of his hands. He’s tried everything he could. The last thing he can do is replace the panel. We’ll see if replacing the panels fixes the problem.
Hi Cristina,

I have two faucets and they were leaking -- one outside and one on the bathtub on the second floor. The guy from The Lindsay Company was very nice, timely, and professional, and he did a good job. The faucet on the second floor was a very tough one because it was the original and he couldn't pull it out the first time. So, he told me, "I'm gonna order a part because I have to break this. So, a couple of days I would be here." And he did. So, when he came back, it wasn't that difficult. He cut the old one. He did what he promised he would do and in the time he promised me to do it. I have been with American Home Shield for years. I started with them when I was living in California long time ago. When I moved to a new home in Texas 15 years ago, I went back to American Home Shield because I had very good experience with them in the past. It used to be a lot cheaper in the early 90s, but that is okay.
Overall, I'm very happy. Once I report a claim, I will get the call on the same day, making the appointment about that. I work in insurance and I'm a claims adjuster, so we know what we want. When somebody says they are going to do something and they do it, that is very impressive because that is my MO, too. When I say something, I would do it. American Home Shield is good. I keep recommending it to friends and family.

The guy from J & A Appliance Repair came and took a look at our two appliances. The refrigerator where the ice machine stopped working, and the dishwasher that stopped working. He proceeded to pull out the refrigerator, started unscrewing stuff and then he figured out what was wrong with that. So, I have to go get another filter for that. He finished that, then he went over to the dishwasher and it was clogged up. All this junk and stuff came from up under the sink, and he said, “Okay, sign here. I’m okay. I’m good.” I started handing him towels because the stuff was stinky. I said, “Are you not gonna clean up behind yourself or are you just gonna leave this for me to clean?” I didn’t mind because this is my house. He didn’t clean up. He also left screws out of my refrigerator that I had to rescrew myself, which is not right. He got up out of here so quick. It was unbelievable.
I've had American Home Shield for two and a half years and I never had any problems until this one time. The summer before last, my air conditioning unit went out and there were three guys that came out and looked at it. The first guy said, “Okay, I fixed it.” And then it went out again a week later. And then, the second guy came and said, “Okay, I fixed it. Get the filters and change your filter out.” By the time it went out, I had the third guy put the filter in. He figured out what was wrong with the unit. It didn’t need to be replaced. He cleaned up behind himself and left everything exactly like he found it.
One time my microwave went out and I had to haggle with them. It took the contractor about a month and a half before they were able to come to the conclusion that it couldn’t be fixed. They sent the service guy out and I showed him what it was doing and he said, “I’m gonna fix it.” I said, “Let me see you fix that because there’s no way unless you replace the whole door on the microwave.” After a month and a half, they finally said, “Okay. We have to replace it.” American Home Shield need to follow up on their consumers when they put in a complaint about the service that they received. I haven’t heard anything from them. But other than that, I’m satisfied with them.
I hate to hear that the tech did not properly clean up after making repairs. I certainly apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing week.

So far, the contractors that American Home Shield have sent out have been very knowledgeable and professional. They inform you as to what the situation is and what corrective action they're gonna do, and they do it. The Medallion Plumbing guy that came out to repair the plumbing didn't have the part that he needed, which was fine, because according to him, he had been away from the job for a while. Apparently, the van was loaded and they didn't put that part in, but he came back the next day and repaired it. That claim was fine.
I had another issue concerning my refrigerator. A contractor came out and it took him quite a while but he finally diagnosed what the problem was and he explained it to us. Basically, a line froze up and the water was coming out of the dispenser. At the same time, it was leaking at the bottom. There was an adapter he said was leaking, so he replaced that. But there was still not water getting up to the water dispenser. So, he gave us instructions as to what to do and they’ve already set me up an appointment for tomorrow for him to come back out and finish it up.

But when the guy finally came to check the water heater, he was very knowledgeable and polite. The water heater is still not back up and running ‘cause it has a leak and it's under warranty, so I had to go file a claim with the water heater company. And now, they’re scheduled to come back out on Friday and do the exchange. I’ve been using American Home Shield since 2012 and it has been a lot of positive experience, so we keep using them. Outside of having to wait for the repair, but there’s only so many plumbers, and it’s like trying to get somebody to fix your AC in the summertime.

I submitted a claim online to AHS for my dishwasher. I've done the earlier ones by telephone with no problem. This time, I set up the account. And they asked for the model number of the dishwasher and make and model and I was able to load that and they were back in touch with me. It was over the Christmas break, so they were pretty well done up that they couldn't come for a couple of days. But it wasn't a big deal. They came as soon as they could and they came when they were expected.
And that was the second time that the same technician had been there. We had an earlier thing with them to come out and repair the hood of our range. And that one went well and this one went well too. They were able to do a repair and they had the parts with them, so they were able to repair it in one trip. And it was also done fairly quickly. Poor guy ended up in something of an awkward position because he had to almost be on his back to get down to the wiring, which was in the bottom of the dishwasher at the floor. But it went very well.
I'm really pleased with American Home Shield. This is the first time I tried their online. And we've been pleased generally with the people that they have working with them. These aren't the normal ones that people recommend. They've done a great job. And in one case, the first time right after we bought the house, we were having issues with the furnace, and they brought in a set of local people, and they actually didn't fix it. I called it in to American Home Shield and the guys that they brought in were successful. So I've been very pleased with them. We were pleased enough to renew the contract.

Everything went awesome with my dishwasher. It was not an emergency, but unfortunately, it happened on Christmas Eve. However, I didn’t expect them to call me at 7 AM the next day. My mind went with the understanding that they have to order and the part needs to be replaced, which may take a week. I thought, “Please, god, make it for three days, not more than five days,” but it worked right away. He went to his car, grabbed something and then replaced the motor.
Then when I asked if he was done, he said yeah and there was no mess. He was excellent and made it so easy. The guy shouldn’t be a repair guy. He should have been a comforter. I was so happy. The tenants said that my response time was good. I told them that it was AHS. I also had AHS before for the air conditioner during the winter storm time. It was snowing outside and the heater stopped. It didn’t take them that long. I love them. I also like the way they pick contractors.

The AC wasn’t heating. We would turn it on and it wouldn’t push any hot air. I submitted a claim online and their website was not very user-friendly, because it didn’t provide enough choices. It just says, “AC,” and it doesn’t say, “It’s a heating, it’s a cooling, it’s something else.” So you really have no choice. It used to be a bit better before, but not now. There aren’t enough choices for a client to say, “This is what I think it might be wrong,” or a space where you can write the information. That might be helpful.
Right Tech Heating and Air came in and asked where the unit was at. They went up on the roof and came back down, and said, “No, you need a new unit.” And they told me that I might need to pay money out of pocket. They really didn’t do any work. I talked with them and said, “How soon are you going to let American Home Shield know?” He said, “They might be closed, but let me give them a call.” And he said goodbye. He must have called them right away because within an hour, we got a call from American Home Shield to tell us that they have recommended that the unit be replaced.
My house is really cold and I haven’t gotten the unit replaced yet. I called Right Tech the other day to ask them whether they had a status. They said they haven’t received the unit yet, that American Home Shield could not send it to them. After I spoke with American Home Shield representative from the authorization department, I haven’t heard from anybody. I haven’t heard from Right Tech too. So, I don’t have any clue what’s going on.
I have four different homes with American Home Shield. With one of them, I had it for a couple of years. Before, American Home Shield was a bit faster in their responses. Now, I noticed that it takes too long. For example, I’ve been without heating for four weeks next Wednesday. Before that, I had another claim with the water heater on another unit that we owned, and to replace the water heater with the tenant, you need two and a half weeks. So the service from American Home Shield right now is really poor. The service, their response, the authorization, the approval, they're just too long. Being without heat in winter for four weeks is a long time. Right now, AHS has bad service.

I purchased a policy with AHS due to their great reviews and a recommendation. I submitted a claim for my air conditioner not working, contractor came out assessed issue, said there was a coil leak and he’d submit claim to AHS. Next day AHS called and said claim was denied because I should have had unit checked prior for any potential issues and problem was due to my negligence so they weren’t authorizing any repairs. Huh? I was stunned. Customer Service rep wouldn’t let me speak to anyone else or give me another number and said I could send an email regarding the dispute. I did and never got a response. I was upset and now had no working AC during a heatwave. Nice.
There were an extraordinary amount of Yelp reviews for AHS and their contracted HVAC vendors in my area with the exact same experience. Additionally, when I decided to cancel, they charged a ‘cancellation fee’ and did not refund the remaining portion of my monthly payment. Sadly disappointed with this company and their business practices and will be going back to my previous home warranty company.

Please make sure you are aware of all units, brand, specifications on your house before getting any service with this company. They charge me a good amount of money for 4 years and barely use their services. It is not worth your money as they charge you every time for any service minimum 100 dollars to just get a technician. Sometimes it is better to get someone to fix your units or if you have home insurance if the unit breaks and has to be replace use your home insurance. Even if the technician does not find any issue with your units you get charge 100 dollars. Sometimes if you do the math it is cheaper to get those appliances fixed. I spend almost 3000 dollars with this company and if I use it most 3 times, it was a lot and plus the 100 for each visit, it is not worth but if you have money to waste use this service. But if not, use your insurance. Will charge minimum 500 deduct to replace your unit. Sometimes it is cheaper.
I thought I was doing the right thing but to be honest with you all, I just throw my money to the trash. As a single person we think getting this service we will be ok, no. I think they are just getting your money. Better pay for your home insurance and sometimes it is better to pay the deductible versus paying each month almost 60 dollars and then paying more when they go to check it. Think twice before getting this service in case your home insurance does not have a plan to cover your electronics and appliances. As well I got a service from an outsider cause they did not have have anyone to service my house. I submitted the reimbursement, they never reimbursed the out of my pocket.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have had several issue with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

Submitting a claim to them was very easy. As soon as I called, it was done then a contractor called me to schedule a time to come out. When I needed to have my toilet fixed, AHS sent out R-Mech Heating, Cooling & Plumbing. Everything went fine. The contractor showed up and fixed the problem. It was a simple repair. I’m a single woman and I don’t really know how to fix things. He gave me some recommendations and he was totally professional. He was then gone in no time. Also, I just got a new carpet so I was pretty pleased that he didn't even have to be asked to put covers on his shoes.

My experience with my recent claim with AHS was good. The contractor did an excellent job. He was also punctual. He called and he did everything right. He unclogged the dishwasher and the scent that was coming from the garbage disposal went away. The water that was coming out the other part stopped. So, everything is good.
Submitting the claim was also very easy. I called. I'm a little old-fashioned and I like to sometimes hear a voice. The interaction with the rep was good as well. But I am going to call AHS again ‘cause I got another little situation going on. Our electric sockets in the master bath, none of them work. I’m just a little surprised that the inspector missed this with the inspection of the home. To me, this is something that should not have been missed. And the only thing I don’t like is having to pay that big amount, $75, but I guess you have to do it for the service call. But trying to get an electrician, someone you don’t know, that’s harder, so I do appreciate the service.

I had a fan in my bathroom that wasn’t quite hooked up yet, and there was a loose wire up there and they connected it. That made the thermostat work, but it also caused my fan to stay on and I can’t turn it off. Other than that, it was good. They kept in contact with me and let me know when they were coming. They texted me to let me know that the tech was on his way. And the tech was very professional. The only thing that I have a concern with is the air conditioning. I called when I submitted the claim for a plumbing issue. I didn’t call on Sunday when I discovered it, but I called on Monday and the first guy from AM PM Plumbing came out. He said, “You should’ve called on Sunday.” And I said, “I’d hate for anybody to have to work on their day off.” And he said, “That’s what we’re here for.” He made sure that the top unit was working. We at least had a little hot water and he told me how to turn it off if something were to happen and how to shut off the breaker, which I already knew. And then, they called and scheduled the appointment and did it on New Year’s Eve, which I was amazed at. People don’t particularly like to work around the holidays. But the plumber came in and put the new one in, took the old one, and was in and out in two and a half hours. He was very courteous and professional. I would use them again because the gentleman that they sent out was really nice.

Previously, I had an air conditioner claim with American Home Shield. My AC was out for nine days and it was brutal. The guy from the second company that they ended up sending took almost nine hours to fix my AC system by himself. I got so sick of complaining. Sometimes, AHS sends subpar contractors for certain areas. Those guys who come in don't seem to be prepared. I send them out the door and I call AHS to tell them that they need to send me somebody else.
I pay every month and I see that AHS' monthly fee has gone up a few dollars each month. I really like AHS to send me the best contractors that they can instead of sending somebody out at my location who doesn't even have a truck or the part needed. More recently, I had a leak under my bathroom sink downstairs. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they sent High Priority Plumbing. They found the leak, put in a part and repaired my sink. I haven't had a problem since.

I had no idea it was really easy to submit a claim. I filed for a relocking and Ball Security and Locksmith Service came out. The gentleman that came out was very professional and he took into consideration the conditions of our locks then asked if we would like to replace the whole unit rather than just the actual key portion. I didn’t feel pressured about doing anything, and he just provided his expertise to pretty much just allow us to be on the same page as he was so that we were understanding everything. So, it went really well.

I was single and I knew if something went out, I wouldn’t have the money to replace it and when I was told about AHS, I thought it was an excellent deal and went for it. I got screwed bad by one of their contractors though and I told the lady that they needed to check out their people who provided the work better. Other than that, I’m happy that I have AHS.
When my fire alarm went out, it started making the noise a lot and it was just going off for no reason. I could light just one burner and it would start going off. Especially if I had more than one burner going in the stove. I have the fan on to keep the alarm from going off. It was very annoying and I got tired of that. I finally called American Home Shield. I thought I needed a battery in there, but when I looked, and it didn’t have a battery. The contractor who came was very efficient, quick, and to the point. They found what the problem was and felt that the fire alarm needed to be replaced. They replaced it and everything has been perfect since.

The guy from Professional Door Fixers that came out was awesome. He wasn’t knew it all. He took his time, did it right, went over and beyond what I expect of a service check. And those are very rare to find nowadays. Once he assessed what it was, he went and got what he needed to do it, and it didn’t take him any time to do it. He had it completed that day and it's working fine now. I just wish that what we pay every month should cover if we have a problem. That we don’t have to pay an additional out. It’s been going up and up and up every year. It needs to be going the opposite direction as much as we pay in and as little as we use it.

We made a claim with Home Shield for our stove and microwave. These appliances were just bought a year ago. The light wouldn’t work and it wasn’t from the bulb. Also, the panel just went crazy. Nothing wasn’t working. It was saying different words. When we tried to pop popcorn, it wouldn’t let us. We had the popcorn pan. We had to do it manually. The clock wouldn’t work, too. Everything just went black. On the stove, the backburner wouldn’t work on both of them. It would just go on high all of a sudden.
The claim was submitted online. Their website is convenient. However, normally, there is no field to denote what is wrong with the appliances. There's just a field for comments. It would help the submission, at least to know what to expect and then be able to assess the situation better. Most of the time, the contractors that come out are okay. Some of them are really good. They do the repairs and clean up. Now, there was one that took a little too long to come back and install the parts. But I think that it partly had to do more with the parts. Home Shield sent Wright Appliance Service & Repair for our stove and microwave, and the stuff is functioning well now. The length of time we’ve Home Shield, it's been very good. When we bought our house, it came with the warranty, and we’ve continued renewing with them.

I called American Home Shield on a Thursday and Super Plumbers didn't get here 'till the following Tuesday to clean a drain pipe out of the kitchen sink. American Home Shield assigned me to that company and I got a text message from AHS telling me when my appointment was going to be. I was not really happy with their response time. I called Super Plumbers myself and said, "Is this as early as you can get here?" They said, "Yeah, we're completely booked." I said, "Okay, put me on your list so that you can call me if you have a cancellation." I never got a call.
Once they got here, the technician that came was good, professional, friendly, did his job and he got on down the road. I also had a stoppage and a faucet that was leaking. I asked him to change the washers in the faucets and he said no. He couldn't do anything except what was on the work order. That was probably my fault because I didn't say when I called American Home Shield that I got a leaky faucet and a stopped-up sink. In the future, I'll make sure that I'll be much more explicit and precise on what I need. So, I'm gonna fix it myself. But I was disappointed that it took that long to get somebody out here. When American Home Shield got the response time back from the company, they should have called me and rescheduled with a different plumber.
I had American Home Shield once before and this time, we've been with them for two years. I call in whenever I submit claims to American Home Shield and for the most part, the reps I've dealt with have been really good. However, whenever there is a problem, you gotta talk to somebody in the Philippines and they cannot resolve my problem here in Texas. The next time it happens, we're gonna switch.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

He actually called and said he knew his window was 1:00 to 4:00. But he asked if he could come sooner because he had a cancellation. I wasn't home, but my wife was there. She said the tech was pretty fast and was in and out. He was great.
We had AHS for a while and it was great in the past for us. But we dropped them when we got to a new house. We switched to Landmark because the sellers picked that for us. We went back to AHS last year because Landmark was just horrible. We were glad to be back. We haven't had any problems except for our dryer's heating element and AHS has been quick to fix it for us. Their call centers are transferred overseas and I know they're in a different culture. When I say there are two bathrooms, they don’t quite get that because they're lucky to have one. I had an issue with my furnace. The heating mechanism of the pump went out. First, the igniter went out and Mountain Heating & Cooling came out and fixed it. Then they said it wasn’t the igniter, it was board. Then they said it wasn’t the board, it was the pump, the valve. So, with the timeframe, they got it fixed. The problem was the clerk or the receptionist. Over the Christmas weekend, on that Friday, she made an appointment. For some reason, they closed and she didn’t call me and tell me the appointment was canceled, and she had me waiting at home all day. I called. Nobody answered the phone. And then, I got to wait a whole three days so they could come back in the office. And I had my relatives here from Alabama visiting. It was just a nightmare. But other than that, the technicians were well-mannered. In fact, I gave them both a $20 tip because they were professional.

Originally, I had Sears then I saw they were having some issues, and potentially going under, so I decided to change. A couple of my co-workers have Home Shield and said it was a good company. So, even though Sears still offers a home protection plan, I decided to get rid of them and start up a new plan with Home Shield. The claims process is straightforward. I went online, selected what area or problem I had, and it was easy from there. Thus far, I’ve been satisfied with what I’ve needed. One was the garbage disposal and one was the toilet, but the contractors came in, stated what the problem was, how they fixed it, and each took under 15 minutes.
Aqua Plus was very quick and efficient too. The contractor came in, asked what was the problem, pinpointed it, and provided a detailed assessment of the issue. They showed us the old part, what they were replacing it with, and how to avoid this in the future. Based on where we live in DC, the minerals build up in the water and in areas where this is common, sometimes the pump has a 5 to 10-year lifespan. He was saying it wasn’t anything that we did specifically. It was just, more or less, something with the water.

He checked everything and cleaned out some sort of hose or something that he said could be stopped up. It worked okay for a few days and then it started doing it again. The second guy that came was a different tech. There wasn't enough slope in the drainage and he tacked it up where the water would drain correctly. We hadn't had any problem since. Both techs were very prompt and knowledgeable. They explained everything. They were very hospitable and cordial.
There have been improvements with American Home Shield because when I would call them, I would have to stay on hold forever just to get somebody to answer. And these past two times that I've had to call, it's been a lot easier to report a claim. There was a quick response and turnaround, so I was very happy with the changes they made. That’s been almost three weeks, and I've called them three times. I’ve been with Home Shield for 25 years, and I’m not satisfied with the way the situation went. I’m thinking about leaving because I’ve had a couple incidents where I’m not satisfied with this company anymore.
When I got my AC unit last summer, I had a hard time getting it. It took me almost two months. We were in the dead heat, and we didn’t have any AC. They were giving us the runaround. We had to pay this amount of money. They had to investigate it. They had to go through this and go through that. We were sitting in the heat for a solid five weeks in the hot summer before I could get a AC. We almost put out just as much as they put out for the unit. We had to pay out of our pocket. It wasn’t nothing like that when I took it out years ago. It got ridiculous. I’m just hanging on for a little while ’til I find something different.

My air conditioner wasn't cooling one time. I did a visual check and the unit was iced up back to the compressor on the outside unit. My wife submitted a claim to AHS. She did the claim through the computerized system when she alls in. However, she wound up talking to somebody 'cause when we called the phone number of their contractor Advantage, it was always closed. In the past, AHS would give us an organization that is going to contact us. We like to call to see if they got a notification from AHS and if we are gonna be on schedule for the day that we called or the next day. We got all zeroes and so we called in to American Home Shield.
For this claim, Advanced Air Refrigeration & Air's technician came. The tech checked the inside of my house and looked for visual leaks. He checked all of my joints that he could get to. He also came inside my unit and we removed my filter that I had so diligently taped on. He removed all that so he could get in and found no leaks. He found that my drain through which the condensation from the evaporator goes through was not connected. I had some duct tame that time which he wrapped around that several times. The tech also checked the pressures as I had turned the unit off so it was not running at all. He saw that it needed refrigerant and so he went out to his vehicle, got his R-410A, put some in it and charged for two pounds. Thus far, we've had really good success with AHS over the course of the time that we've been with them. We recommend Home Shield.

Then they either fix it or they'll tell you they can't fix it, and it needs something else, and they'll get to it right away. On my dishwasher, the contractors were here fixing it the next day, and it was something simple. If it's something simple, they do it right away. I had nothing but professional and timely help with their customer service people. They were good. Schubert’s Appliance Repair took about four days to come out. We called the end of the week and they were there the first of the next week. My daughter was at home and she said everything went fine. The guy said the washer motor was out so he replaced it and it was working after that even though he didn’t even address what we thought the problem was. Then he said that he didn’t think the water heater was getting hot enough, but he wasn’t a plumber so he lined up a plumber through AHS. The plumber came out and checked the water and the water heater. He said that sometimes the pilot will go out from the wind and that it was okay unless it started going out more often, then they’d have to do some repairs. And doing a cost and a comparison with other like companies, I felt like this was the best option. Their online process is pretty straightforward, but it has limited information as far as what the status is of things. American Home Shield assigns my claim to a servicer, and then if that servicer doesn’t have availability, I’m out of luck until they do. It would be nice if American Home Shield could be on top of it. When I spoke to American Home Shield about it, they had said I would have to pay an additional fee in order to do that because they would have to reassign it. I understand what their logic was, but from a customer, it doesn’t help me.

After you open or close the freezer part of the refrigerator a few times, the water would leak down to the bottom. I called American Home Shield and the Sears tech came out the next day. He was very nice and very helpful. He showed us how to clean the filter on the bottom. We have cats and the cat hair grows under there. He fixed it within half hour and it's now working. But there was one plumbing thing we ran into and it was weird. If the plumbing is on the outside of the house, you have to read all the tiny little print as opposed to inside the house. But we got that fixed and so far, everything has been fine. We've been very happy with AHS.

Everything regarding my recent claim with AHS, so far, has been excellent. They handled it in a very timely manner. AHS should keep up the good work and I have certainly recommended them to all my friends. I’ve also never done business with the contractor before, but they were excellent and seemed to know what they were doing, and they didn’t make us wait.

My friend has been so happy with AHS. They got their furnace and garage doors fixed. I thought that I needed to look into that because I’m by myself, more or less. And that was the best deal that I got. From the very beginning, from the first phone call on, everything has been really nice and well taken care of. I was also impressed with how nice AHS took care of things so fast. The people they have sent were wonderful, too. For my plumbing issue, I told Mia that we thought we shut it off, but it was still leaking. She said that AHS didn’t put it down as an emergency. But I was so happy to think that My Georgia Plumber came out immediately and fixed the problem. They were wonderful and professional about everything.

To rekey all the house, I filed a claim with American Home Shield. The contractor came out quickly. But because I work and to adjust to my schedule, it took him about a week to come out. He was very professional and told me exactly what he was about to do. He taught me about why it was a good idea to change some of the other locks, too.

There was a loose-fitting and a worn gasket at the bottom of the disposal. Springdale Plumbing came out and took care of the leak. The guy also said to keep an eye on the disposal because it would probably be a future call -- it is on its last legs. American Home Shield has always been a very good support. The repair has been quickly done and the issue was resolved efficiently. We are happy with that. We will renew.

The two employees from Higginbottom's Heat and AC Services who came were very friendly, professional. They came when they said they would come in. They did the job quickly, got it done, and got my heat back on. Submitting the claim via call was fairly easy, and reps were very helpful. If I could only understand them at all, that would be a plus. Overall, American Home Shield is a good company to deal with.

American Home Shield's claims process was easy. They assigned a technician, he called and came out right away. I live in a modular home with a crawlspace underneath. He took some pictures, showed me issues under there, and he knew that he got a work order through AHS. However, several days passed and there was no answer. Then I got an email from AHS that say, “Take a survey. Tell me how things went. We've closed it.” So, I called AHS and said, “I don’t think it’s closed. He's got work to do.” And then, I spent three days trying to get a hold of the technician. I've gone back and forth talking with someone down in the office, only to find out they said that AHS turned it down based on not being normal wear and tear. No one has called to tell me, "Here’s what we found or here’s what we told the insurance company." And so, it’s been just sitting there.
So now, they’re coming out to do the work. I’m gonna contract it myself. I don’t even know how to define that normal wear and tear. This house is 20-some years plus, through normal heating and cooling. The desert out here gets 115 in the daytime to below freezing in the wintertime. These ducts are held up by duct tape. There’s obvious signs of looseness based on time frame. To me, that’s normal wear and tear. So, should I be paying everything for this guy to come out here? Because I’m upgrading and I would say, “No.” That’s what I wanted to do. But there is normal wear and tear that has allowed air to come through these ducts and let cold air in here and it just happened to be a cooler year. I understand where we are at this world. But when you can’t understand somebody and you’re paying a lot of money per year, and I’m already out $100, and no one’s telling me what the coverage covers, I had enough. I’m done with them.
We do apologize this issue was not taken care of. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further with your case.

We've been with AHS since July last year and we’ve been very satisfied. They came very highly recommended by my daughter. I’ve also recommended them to another daughter of mine and her mother-in-law. It’s an excellent company. Our recent claim to AHS was for a heater. It’s not working. It wouldn’t heat up the house. Submitting the claim online to AHS was very easy. They sent a text message, and then they also sent me a link where I can track when the contractors would be there. The contractors sent were also pretty good, very friendly and professional. However, it’s still not working like it should that’s why we’re waiting.

Our refrigerator malfunctioned in the middle of December, so I called to see if somebody could take a look at it. The soonest that anybody could come look at it was about two weeks’ time. Two weeks to wait was a bit excessive and rendered the home warranty useless. I would have liked to have seen somebody for a refrigerator that went out and was no longer functioning in much more quickly. In the end, we had to go out and buy a refrigerator. Still, we had a relock and it went great. The scheduling was quick and the vendor was on-time, prompt, and professional.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience John. I apologize for the delay in service. Have an amazing week.

My dishwasher started acting up in April. It was repaired but only lasted about two months. I called AHS again and someone else come out who replaced a lot of parts that didn't fix the issue. We has another vendor come out and he replaced some items that didn't fix it. In December 2019, had another tech come out to request who wants to replace the same items. I'm puzzled, why so many repairs, parts, and service when the dishwasher cost less than all of these parts. They told me that they are waiting for the parts to come in. WTF...I haven't had a working dishwasher since June. Why not just replace the dishwasher?
Good Morning James,

I have so many friends and family members in Mobile, Alabama that have AHS. If they weren’t satisfied with AHS, they wouldn’t have told me about it. I didn’t have my mind made up until they told me about AHS. I've had them for about 3 years now and I like them. They had my plumbing and garbage disposal fixed. Recently, Green’s Appliance did do a good job and tried their best to fix the dryer. They came out twice because they needed to order something that was discontinued and didn’t know that was what was wrong with it. When they came back, they said they knew what was wrong with it. The part was no longer being made so AHS ended up getting me another dryer. I picked the dryer that I was advised to get and I’m happy with it. I love the process.
Nothing like getting a new appliance! That is great news Jacqueline. We are happy to hear that we were able to resolve your dryer claim. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing weekend.

Trinity Heating & Air Conditioning came out to service our heating issue and we were very pleased with the outcome. They were very professional, timely, knowledgeable and courteous. There was a coil issue that needed to be replaced. The tech did that and cleaned it out. He also encouraged us in buying more expensive filter. The furnace wasn't heating like it was supposed to, but once it was identified that it was the coil issue, then all was taken care of. It's an old unit and it's running beautifully now, better than it has in years. So far, everything went very well with that claim and I would highly recommend to others that they use Trinity each time.

Ollendick Construction came out because a toilet was leaking. The technician was good, very personable and professional. I got one other thing that’s still open that AHS is supposed to take care of and I’m hoping that they do. It was a washer. I had it fixed in August of last year and the guy came out and said what it was and replaced almost $700 worth of stuff and it was still making some of the noise. But he told me once the new stuff broke, then it’d be okay. I thought I had six months to do a callback, but I only had two months. So, they’re gonna charge me again for the guy to come back out.
