I had a few outlets that stopped working and I tried to reset the breaker but it wasn’t getting it back on line. I wanted help to get it restored so I filed a claim and someone from Electrical Service Professionals was sent out. The electrician was very professional and seemed to be very knowledgeable. He got the issue resolved quickly. Also, he kept me informed throughout on what happened, which I found very helpful. He said there was a loose wiring on one of the switches, close to that area, so he had to go into the wall and tighten it and that fixed it. It’s been great since then and I was really satisfied with the service that I received.

My dishwasher would not drain and it was just filling up and the water was staying there. We thought that maybe there was a clog so we took the little filter thing out, and we put it back in, and it still wouldn’t drain. So, I went online to file the claim and then somebody sent me a text and let me know when to expect the contractor out. Quality Appliance Solutions fixed the problem and we had great interactions. We also don’t have any more problems. I've had my AHS contract for 3 years already and I've referred 3 people since I got it.

I like the security that I feel that American Home Shield has my back if anything was to go wrong, which there are a lot of potentials here in this older home. I’m in my third year with them and the quality against its cost has been good. They replaced my dishwasher a couple of years ago without much hesitation when it was needed. As long as the annual price stays at a comparable price, I’ll be very happy. I had a leaky pipe under the sink and the claim went fine but I would have liked a call ahead on the first go-around coming out because my husband was in the shower when they knocked on the door and they left, and we had to reschedule. They came back out the next day so it wasn’t a huge issue. They also gave us an hour window, so whether they were coming right at 9:00 or at 10:00 in the morning was the big difference. The pipe was rusting in a way and they had to cut it and put a new plastic pipe on.

We've been with American Home Shield for about eight years and have been very pleased with the contractors. However, when my husband called our most recent claim in, AHS sent somebody out but it wasn't covered. The contractor came out, charged us $75 and told us that we were not covered. We had to pay for the repair out of pocket. AHS needs to tell you what's covered and what’s not before they send somebody out.

The customer service representatives over the phone were good when I called for my furnace that wasn’t working. I was sent a text message within 30 minutes that gave the time when the tech would arrive. I like that and it gives me a heads up. AirMax Heating and Cooling was the assigned contractor and the tech called to say how far out he was. He was very professional. He had to come twice ‘cause the first time he came, what he did didn’t work. When he came back out again, put on a part, and then I had to have a new thermostat. My heat’s coming on now, so that’s great.

We had a heating claim where J&J Mechanical came out and they were great. The tech was right on time, came right in, got to work, fixed the problem, and explained everything he did. The unit was in the attic so he had to go up in there and because he knew it was for my son, he took pictures of what he fixed and brought the pictures down and showed me. He was very good. We got American Home Shield when my husband bought the house and have had it for 4 months now. We're still in the processing stage of buying a house, and we told our realtor that we wanted American Home Shield when they got as far as paying for a home warranty.

When I moved into the house, the faucet leaked constantly and you couldn’t turn it off. I was losing quite a lot of water so, the contractor had to fix it so that it wouldn’t leak. I was given the name of the company, American Home Shield and I called their number. At first, I had a lot of trouble because something had gone wrong. American Home Shield didn’t receive the money that the real estate company was supposed to send them so, it was a big hassle. I got that straightened out and then, AHS called the plumbing company. The plumber showed up and fixed it but it took them a while to get the right part to fix it, so he had to come back. Getting the money to AHS from the real estate company was a little bit difficult but other than that, the experience was okay. They got the job done, which was what I needed.

911 Locksmith Services come out to rekey our locks. It was a new home purchase, but all the locks were different, and we wanted them all to be the same. The guy was quiet, and he did his job. He was excellent. I got the six keys, which was all we needed. He also replaced the lock on the gate, which had a lock and he couldn't make it work. So, he went all the way back to his office, picked up a new lock, brought it back and fixed it. I was just so impressed with his competence. I also had an oven experience where Dill Appliance came out to check it out and the tech determined that it was too old. When he called the factory, there were no parts. So he determined that we had to replace it.

So far, everybody who came out has been competent, on time, worked around my schedule and have been patient. Everything they came to do, they did, and they've done a good job. We also had the air ducts cleaned because they were filthy. The house is 22 years old and we didn't realize coming in what needed to be done, because it was all something that happened after we moved in. We also had to have the AC checked because it wasn't operating properly. And the plumber came out and checked the hot water heater that wouldn't heat up.

So far, we've had about four calls and everything is now working beautifully. The guy that came was excellent. My husband said he figured out that the two water heaters were tied together. So that even though one operated one side of the house, the other operated the other side, he was able to adjust it so that the same amount of hot water was coming through for both. And I am so grateful for him because I couldn't even take a shower because it took 30 minutes for the water to mix. And he got it all fixed, it's instant hot, and I'm thrilled.

We've been looking for the oven and we've had a little problem with that. It's a shame. What the previous owners did, they bricked in every wall in the kitchen, and they bricked around the existing wall ovens. We didn't know how to measure it because the actual cut-out was hidden with the trim. We guessed at it and then we got it wrong by one inch. So, we had to cancel our order and ordered another one that's 50-inch. But the problem was on our side because we didn't know. We took a screwdriver and hammered out all of the mortar from around the existing one and found that it was much smaller than we thought. So, that's the only one that I've had a little problem with. At least they're replacing it, but we have to pay for the restocking and the percentage of what it cost to restock it. It's a $2,000 unit so it's fine even if I have to pay $200.

And then they did something with one of the toilets. I didn’t have any problems with anybody or anything. It went beautifully. I love it. The contractor was very informative. I’m not used to living in a condo and I had told him that I was gonna try to turn off the water myself and maybe take the faucet off but I realized that in a condo like mine, you cannot turn your water off underneath the sink, and he was explaining to me why. He had to go down to his truck to get another part, but he was right back up and everything went fine.

AHS's online claims process is relatively easy, but sometimes, the options aren’t always exactly what you need to choose. You have to submit the claim, call them and tell them what’s going on. On a Friday morning, I found out about a clogged sewer system. I put the claim in with AHS and the first company called me to set the schedule up, but they couldn’t get out there until Monday, which was not acceptable. I called AHS back and they called somebody else and got it resolved. Whitney Holdings came out and took care of the issue. It was a relatively easy fix. It was just a matter of having somebody available to take care of it that day

I also had an air conditioning claim that took weeks to get resolved. The first company AHS sent had been there a couple of times and they instantly tried to upsell me on a new air conditioning system. I told them to submit the claim first and see what was going on and when AHS comes back with what they're willing to offer then we could talk about potentially upgrading the system. The contractor said no problem. Two days later, I called and I asked, "What’s going on? I haven’t heard back from anybody.” They said they were waiting to hear from me if I wanted a new system. I said that that was not what we talked about at all. They said that it sounded like I'm really upset with them so they were going to cancel the ticket with AHS. That was two days before Christmas and I couldn’t get another company out there to do the repairs.

The next company came after Christmas, but then, they needed to get things authorized and they were gonna be closed on New Year’s Eve. It was gonna be the 3rd before I was gonna get the air conditioning fixed. The house was without air conditioning for almost two weeks and I was just beside myself. AHS said that I gotta give the contractors time. They get 48 business hours. I ended up having to do the cash in lieu and paying somebody else to do the work. Overall, AHS is awful. I’m not happy with them.

    Original Review: Jan. 16, 2020

American Home Shield sent Kelly Brother’s Electric for our claim on the dryer. I ended up melting a three-phase plug that the dryer goes into. And the plug got stuck in there and it wasn’t good, and so I had to call an electrician to fix that. Luckily, he had the part on the truck and he swapped it out. And so then, it worked again. I said, “Okay, fine. Don’t need a new dryer, just need the plug.” The contractor was fine.

I had another claim with the washing machine and it was another thing. They were supposed to show up between 12:00 and 4:00, and they didn’t show up until after 6:00. I even called American Home Shield back and said, “You know, they haven’t made it here in their designated time. They haven’t bothered to call me to tell me they're going to be late. I have other things to do and would like to do.” It was a holiday weekend, and I said, “If they couldn’t make it, they just need to tell me they can't make that schedule and make something else. Why make me wait four freaking hours and you still can't show up?”

The guy finally came and fixed it. It didn’t take him but 30 minutes, but that company, which was Hornet Appliance, was bad. The guy knew what he was doing and he fixed it in no time, but they need to communicate better. I even called their office and said, “Do you have a guestimate as to when he's showing up?” And they said, “Well, let me contact the driver or whatever, the service tech, and get back with you.” I never heard anything.

I've had good and bad experiences with AHS. But I am more dissatisfied than I am satisfied with them. I had a gas leak in my stove. First they told me, I didn’t have an appliance, and that was because the Realtor or whoever did the paperwork when I went to closing on my house didn’t fill out the right format for the type of home that I own. And so, they said, “Oh, no, you have a single family home.” I said, “I do not. I have a townhouse. It is attached to another townhouse.” I have had issues with them since day one when I tried to use them. I had two different people come out and look at my stove. I ended up just spending the money myself and buying a new stove because I had a gas leak. And I had somebody else try to fix it or try to call it in, “Oh, you need to call the gas company.” It was just pass the butt BS.

Then, when I needed to get a plumber out because I had about five things, they were gonna charge me about five different service fees for each thing I needed a plumber for. One was a slow drain, I needed my garbage disposal checked because it wasn’t working, and I needed the washing machine faucet for the washing machine. The hot water thing was frozen on it and corroded up, and I couldn’t get it off to get a new hose put on it. They wanna charge me $75 for each little thing I needed him to do, which to me was absolutely insane. If they want to charge me two, it was fine. But they wanna charge me for like four. I needed him to change the guts in one of the toilets, and I had the parts for the guts. I had everything I needed. I ended up just calling an independent plumber myself and didn’t wanna deal with it.

I've had good things and bad things. One of the good things is when the people do show up, they at least know what they're doing. The washing machine problem and the electrical issue on the dryer were not a problem. But when it came to the gas stove, those people were lazy as hell and didn’t wanna do their job. I thought, “Well, what's the deal? We're talking a gas leak.” I had my sister moved in with me since and she's on oxygen. I don’t need oxygen and gas mixing and blowing my neighborhood up. And I tried to explain this to them, but it's like they wanted me to call the city. They should have the tools to check something if it's leaking or not. I'm used to living with electric appliances, and I moved in the house and it had gas. I can smell the gas. And so, I was a little freaked out. I don’t wanna die of carbon monoxide or whatever else could be going on.

When the contractor came out, it was very quick and professional. It went fine. But over the year, we’ve had some claims made where they did not cover the full replacement of an item, and that should be explained better. You still have to come out of pocket for cost. They wait too long to replace items versus repair items. They repaired something for me for five times before they finally replaced it, which was a lot of waste of time and money.

I looked at the reviews and the reviews for AHS were pretty good. So, I signed up with them and I have them since October of last year. Recently, I had multiple issues with my heating and AHS assigned All South Air Systems to come out. The process went pretty smoothly and the guy told me to call him if anything was wrong and he'd comeback. That was exactly what he did and everything was resolved over a span of three days.

When he first came out, he changed changed out the squirrel cage and the fuse. The squirrel cage in there from the previous owners was beat to death, so he had to change it. Then we woke up the next morning and it wasn’t working again. So, then he figured out it was the wiring and he changed that. Then he changed out the thermostat, so that fixed everything. The tech was very knowledgeable on everything and he explained a lot of stuff to us. He said he had to go get the part for the first day, then it was after 8 o’clock when he came back just to fix it for us. That way, we would have heat.

Two guys from Moreno Plumbing showed up for my plumbing issue and they’re very prepared and personable. They explained everything that they were doing and I’m not an easy person to deal with ‘cause I’m always asking questions but they were very patient. They made sure the problem was fixed and they also told me that if anything happens within the next 24 to 48 hours, then I could let them know so they would come right back out. That’s the second time I’ve dealt with the same people from Moreno Plumbing and they’re very nice people.

I've had American Home Shield off and on since 1994 and I’ve never really had problems. I’ve referred my dad and he’s had good results with them. I referred my sister and my daughter has it as well. My issue so far is that they don’t have any coverage for water softeners. I live out in the mountain area and everybody out there has water softeners. It would come in handy if they’d cover that and the roof also. Then, the process of submitting a claim is not too bad as I’m a little bit more familiar with it. My dad is in his 80s and I usually have to call for him because he gets frustrated with it. It seems like he gets routed to a different line, and he has a little bit of harder time with it. But for me, I’m a little bit more patient with it ‘cause I know the end justifies the means.

I had problems with my radiator, problems with my boiler and several things with American Home Shield. They fixed everything but they didn't check all the radiators. I had to pay somebody again yesterday to come and fix it. I shouldn't have to pay for jobs individually. But that's what I'm doing. I called the company itself. They told me it would cost me $148 for them to come back out here and look at a radiator. And that was the same company that AHS covered. I thought they would be nice enough to come back out here and look at it on their own because they want my business. But they told me no. They said, "Before we even come in your house, it's $148." So they were telling if there was something wrong with the radiator it would cost me $300. So what am I paying American Home Shield for?

I'm very unsatisfied with AHS. Just because they gave me a $100 refund, that doesn't make thing right for all the bad services they gave me. I had all types of issues. Their contractor for the heating also did a pathetic job. He was supposed to be out here in 24 to 48 hours but they didn't come out here for two weeks. So I had no heat for two weeks. All I got from AHS are apologies. I also got apologies with the plumbing, but the problems are not getting fixed. I'm getting the runaround. When I called they were telling me, "Somebody is supposed to call you, call you, call you." I said, "When is it gonna be, Christmas, when I get the phone call?" I said, "I'm freezing in this house." An emergency call means anywhere from one hour to 24 hours, not two weeks later. I'm paying for services that I'm not really getting.

I've been with AHS for over four years and I got more of a headache with them than I ever in my life. They get money like clockwork from me. They take it out of my account every single month. I shouldn't have to go through this nonsense. There is no purpose because they wanna charge me for a heat system, and when I say heat system, that means the whole entire heat system you check. The first company they sent me looked at the thermostat, said it's fixed and he left in two minutes. He didn't even go downstairs. AHS has to get their act together. This is ridiculous. I go through this one more time I'm outta here with American Home Shield.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield on a Saturday or Sunday for an issue with a refrigerator. And then, A&R Services contacted me and said they couldn’t come out Monday, so they came out that Tuesday and everything was repaired the same day. The younger guy was very nice, professional and courteous. But the older guy might be ready to retire. He left a few pieces of trash like it didn’t matter to him and it’s around the holidays. Granted there was a lot of stuff in the house, not to mention the refrigerator broke, so I was using a college dorm refrigerator for everything that I couldn’t. And I did have a deep freezer. But I’m also working on something and he just sat right where I was seating because he had to figure out something. I don’t know if I could come in someone’s home and do that.

Just as the techs were wrapping up, the lights to the refrigerator went out and the older guy didn’t wanna go to the van to get another light. So I said, “I have a light here. Can I use a different regular bulb?” And I did have a bulb, but they were LED bulb. And the younger guy said, “No. This would not work. Don’t use that in the refrigerator.” So, he went to get the light. I like the younger guy. I felt like if he’s the face of that company. If he’s going to be the face of that company, then they’re in good shape. But if the older guy remains the face of the company, then there’s room for improvement.

The plumber was great and friendly. We needed to get a new water heater and it ended up taking a week. We also had someone from Sears come out for the washer and dryer, and the stove. That claim went fine too, although it would have been nice if they replaced the washer and dryer because they’re 20 years old and on their last legs. But they did their job fine. It just took a lot longer.

Handy Randy was really good, very knowledgeable. Randy himself came out here after American Home Shield sent another company that said they couldn't work on our type of refrigerator. They should’ve asked for our model number and that would have told them. The other tech said he couldn't work on a closed refrigeration unit. So, I was very unhappy because it's very hard to deal without a refrigerator and we had spoiled food, and the house smelled terrible. We had been out of town. This was a disaster for us so I called American Home Shield and said, "We need somebody here quickly." Within two days, Handy Randy came, and within an hour, he had it fixed. It's working perfectly now.

I've been with American Home Shield since 2008. I have had some issues, I do have some concern. But things eventually get taken care of, even if it's not exactly the way I want it or as quickly as I want it. Sometimes, it takes an undue amount of time. Like this summer in our Colorado house, the air conditioning went out and AHS sent people who were on the other side of two interstates. I don't think they were all that excited about coming that far. And one guy was an apprentice. We have two compressor units outside and he was working on the wrong one. My husband had to take care of it. He rewired it himself because these people said they couldn't do that. So, we got tired of waiting and he finished fixing it himself. But they did put in parts that corrected the major problem. I wouldn't choose them again, but I don't have a choice.

Generally, I submit claims online. That way, I seem to be able to communicate right away and not get put on hold, and I get an immediate response. American Home Shield just needs to improve on their knowledge about what the contractors can do. And location should also be considered, especially in large metro areas. In some cases where we've had people that have fixed things in the past for us before we had them, we can't pick them. So, I wish there were some way that we had some choice, like they could give me three choices and I could pick one. And then I could look at where they're located and do a little vetting on what people have said, because you can check them out yourself. If you had an option, it might have prevented what just happened.

I had Air Pro Heating & Cooling come out and take a look at the furnace. It wasn't a very good experience with them because they never got back to us. I ended up having the tenant call them. That's when we found out they weren't qualified to fix it. This went on for over a week. I called American Home Shield after I found out this gentleman couldn't fix it. They in turn tried to get ahold of Air Pro. They couldn't get ahold of Air Pro so that's when I ended up with Reliable Heating & Cooling. They contacted me, went in and fixed the whole thing.

I would like for American Home Shield to improve in the fact that I have to pay $232 because they didn't cover certain work. I'm paying for a replacement on all heating and air conditioning. That's not right. If they can't fix it, they're supposed to replace it. That's what they say. They didn't completely fix it for nothing and didn't replace it either. I'm not very happy with them right now considering I have two contracts with them.

The furnace wasn't heating. It wasn't working and I reported the claim online at 5:00 in the morning. Then I called at 9:00. Applied Air already had the paperwork and they came at 11:00. So that was super fast. The technician was on time too. He was young but very professional. It was great working with him. He had the motor he had to replace on hand so he switched it and the furnace was working in half an hour.

But I had a leak under my sink before and when the repair people came, they told me they couldn't repair it because it was not to the code. I didn't understand what they meant by that because I bought the house with the pipe already in the wall. I didn't mess with the pipes. But they said it was cut too short to the wall so they would have to do something. I thought that was crazy because I had a leak and they couldn't fix it. I don't know if that was just a repair company or it wouldn't work with the American Home Shield or something goofy like that. But nothing was resolved. Nothing was fixed.

I had to go to Home Depot, get some sealer and seal it myself because I couldn't wait for three days with the leak underneath. It wasn't a bad leak. It was just dripping but I was really disappointed with that because I don't know what's with the code and what's not with the code. Who is to tell me? But that claim was a few years back. I had that claim in the very beginning of the services. I've been with American Home Shield for a few years now.

They sent Basic Appliance Repair.

The tech was excellent. He asked me what happened and I told him. I had plastic down on the floor and he started laughing at me. He said, “We’re not gonna let it run that long. There won’t be a flood." And he turned it on, and within two minutes he said it was the solenoid in the dish machine that was constantly open so it constantly allowed water to flow into the dish machine, and it never shut off. But he fixed everything. The dishwasher is working like it’s brand new.

So again on 1/10 we called again because we had not been updated. They said they approved a repair and that parts would arrive to the repair tech by 1/13 and they promised to give us a call by then. Again -NO CALL.

We followed up on 1/15 and they said they didn't know where the parts were and couldn't actually track them. We called the repair tech who stated that they are required to order from AHS and they would have the tracking info (he said/she said). After more phone calls and chats (side note - we have spent so much time on hold and have been hung up on more than once) they had no answers and refused to transfer us to a supervisor or manager and they stated they would tell us the same thing (contact the repair tech for an update). The claim I filed with American Home Shield for the heating went perfectly. It was a bad thermostat that somebody installed since we just redid the home. The gentleman from Perry Mechanical who came out was right on time. He did everything he needed to do, diagnosed it immediately and definitely took care of every question I had. He explained everything that happened there and showed me visually as well. So far, they've exceeded my expectations.

The water heater was no longer making the water hot. A-English came out, diagnosed it and fixed it. The technician was very informative and patient with me. And he got it going for a couple of days until he could get the heater, but he said it probably wouldn’t last, and it didn’t. But the water was getting warm. It just wasn’t getting hot anymore. He said that was what would happen, and he tried to get the heater as quickly as possible, and he did. With the new unit, so far, so good. It’s left on warm, which means we have to run it a little bit longer before it gets hot. But that’s actually the safer part. It was what they recommended -- to stay on warm.

They made sure that they let me know what was going on and assured me that they would take care of it in a timely manner, and they did. It was right into the Christmas holidays, so he was assuring me. He said he was gonna put it in, and they should be able to get it on a certain day and if I didn't mind, he probably could go on and do it Saturday, so they wouldn’t be going into the holiday -- Christmas was gonna be on that Wednesday. I said if he could do it Saturday, I would sure make myself available Saturday. And that was what he did.

When I make a claim, I call in, telling them what the problem is, and then they assign me someone. The company that they assign me to calls me and accepts my claim for them to come out and look at my issue. The first time I had to have someone come out for my AC was not a very good one. The guy packed up and walked off because he had been here for two hours and couldn't give my husband an answer as to what the problem was, and he was continuously on his phone. I called and reported that and told American Home Shield that I never wanted to see them again. My husband has had their protection plan for a long time already, and when we got married, he suggested that we do it for our other home. I was then reluctant to do it, and so you could imagine the taste in my mouth after that first guy who came out.

So, the second gentleman that came out was very nice and was very thorough. He was from HVAC Repairs, and he took care of the problem and fixed it. Someone else also came out today for my garbage disposal. The guy had to get permission from the company for something, and he said that I would know by tomorrow. Overall, I'm satisfied with this company.

My heater went out and Home Shield sent Greenway who was prompt in getting out the same day. But the follow-up left something to be desired because it turned out to be a breaker issue. They removed the breaker and said they would get back with me regarding setting up an electrician to replace the breaker. Two weeks went by, I've never heard from them. The heater went out again last week but I didn't bother calling Home Shield. I called an electrician and had it replaced.

I've been with Home Shield for six years and I've had one bad experience. My experience with them has been an A, but a ball was dropped on my most recent claim. Also, I prefer to talk to a live person when I submit a claim. I like accountability in their name and sometimes, when it comes to electronics, things don't get picked up.

The customer service rep I spoke with when I filed a claim was very good and Island Breeze came out the next day to replace a part in my furnace. The contractor seemed to be very competent. It took him a week to get the part and everything’s working fine now. It was a pleasant surprise after my last experience with AHS. Six years ago, my dryer broke and it took them five weeks to come to the conclusion that they couldn’t fix it, and they sent the same guy out here three times to come to that conclusion. In addition to that, during the course of those five weeks, their customer representatives lied to me. They said that they hadn’t heard from the contractor. I talked to the contractor directly and he told me that he called them repeatedly and he had been told that they couldn’t get the part.

As it happened, my mom was in a nursing home and she had very sensitive skin, so I had to do all her laundry. And people who are 95 years old generate a lot of laundry. So, I had to take my mom’s laundry to a dry cleaner, which was enormously expensive, for five weeks. Finally, I told AHS to cancel the subscription, pay me whatever the dryer’s worth and I’ll go on about my business. At that point, they suddenly became responsive. So, I talked to somebody who would actually respond to the issue. Based on my experience, American Home Shield is gonna do whatever you can make them do, not necessarily what they promised they’ll do on TV. In other words, they didn’t have to send for the part from Japan, the dryer was only four years old. For sure if there were parts, Whirlpool will have it. So, something was very wrong.

As a matter of fact, the last time they called me, I asked if they could come that day and they said, "Yes, we’ll be there.” They’ve been awesome. The tech came out, did what he could, got a part and fixed it. We just moved into this house and I've only had American Home Shield for a month. Their claims process was easy. It was all online. But every time I’ve tried to call customer service, I’d get the runaround. I either get ported to a number that doesn’t go anywhere and it rings and rings and it eventually hangs up on me, or I get told that I have to wait and I’ll get a call in three days. It has been disappointing. So far, the appliance has been fixed, but I also did the rekey service over a month ago now, and I’ve been waiting for my reimbursement since then.

When Keith Powell Heating and Cooling came out, it went fine and we were very pleased with the technician. They made contact and said when they were gonna be here, then they were here when they said they were gonna be here. The tech had to order a part and he said that it should take X amount of time to order it and that they would be back in touch with us as soon as the part came in, in which they were. Then he came out and reinstalled it. The process took a matter of a few days and it was not long. I was very satisfied with the timeframe because we weren't without heat. We had another means of heat and we used electric heat. But it would have been a different issue if we would have been without heat to have to wait a couple of days.

We've had American Home Shield since last July and it was recommended to us by a real estate agent. The only thing was we thought we were buying a very comprehensive policy when we bought our policy. We came to find out that there are some things that are not covered. When our fireplace area was leaking during a storm, the guy on the phone that took the initial call said, "Well, I'm sorry. That's something that's not covered." That wasn't a real positive experience. But then the second time we called about the AC, they said that they would have somebody get in contact with us the next day which they did. So, I would wanna talk to somebody before purchasing the policy again and have a better, complete understanding of what exactly is covered and what is not covered.

I like not having to pay full price for things. I got American Home Shield about two years ago when my house was turning six and a half. I figured I’d just cover myself thinking the builder used the most inexpensive appliances. One time, I had a garage door guy here but he refused to fix the garage door because he said it was an electrical problem. My husband was a journeyman wireman before he retired, and he told the guy that it was not the GFI but he didn’t believe him, he refused to do anything. So, we brought the electrician out just to prove that it wasn’t the GFI and it was the garage door opener. Then the garage door guy had to come back again and said, “You need a new garage door.” And they left again, and came back. They were back-and-forth.

One day, they told me they’d be here between 3:00 and 5:00, so I went out about 1 o’clock and was planning on being back by 3:00. They called me and said, “We’re ready to come over now.” And I said, “You told me between 3:00 and 5:00. I'm not home.” I was getting a manicure, so it was a little hard to leave. He said, “If we can’t come now, we’ll have to reschedule.” So they rescheduled and we rescheduled twice, because they screwed up the second time they rescheduled. After they got the garage door opener, they said, “Oh, we forgot to put you on the schedule.” That piece took a while. But that was more of the garage door company than American Home Shield. Except for some of it, because American Home Shield requires people to try and fix things before they fix anything.

We had to have a toilet replaced and that took a while, too. They guy had to come back a couple of times, then to get approval, etc. It would be nice if they could get everything done at once. Since my husband was in the electric field for so long, it did irritate him that people leave and come back because he said that you don’t leave a job half-done. It was fortunate that I wasn’t working right now because I had to keep rescheduling. I would’ve had a tough time doing that if I had been working. The electrical guy was great though. And the guy who came and finally put the garage door in was nice as well. He did a really good job. Overall, anytime I’ve needed American Home Shield, they have been here.

Serenity Appliances was very nice. They did really well the first time and they fixed one part of the problem. When the tech had the other needed part and came out, it was the wrong color. He had to order them again since it wasn’t a match. So, that was two more weeks we had to wait, and then the part came in, and we missed several calls. We had a lot of traveling to do and I just don’t think that we could ever get on the same page as far getting them to our home when we were here. They figured it wasn’t gonna happen, and it never did, so they never fixed the whole thing. They closed the account and we had to get Sears to come out. When they came out, they had the part in their truck already, and they fixed it right then.

When I submit claims, it's usually online and I love the website. It's very easy and fast. Then, I'm given a couple of days to expect the contractors out. And all of the contractors that have come out have all been wonderful. When we bought the house, the warranty came with the home as it was part of the deal. I had to call American Home Shield several times for them to call the first company. And after the fourth phone call, American Home Shield finally decided to give me a second opinion and send someone else out. And the last person they sent out, who was from AA Dependable Appliance Service, was on time and did a wonderful job. He fixed the issue and everything was perfect.

Overall, American Home Shield is good but not consistent. You'll get someone who's gonna respond to you right away. And then you call about something else and they don't respond right away. Even the sales people sometimes don't understand what I'm trying to explain to them, and I don't understand them. And I find myself having to repeat the same thing over and over to them. And when I say things to them, they repeat it word for word back to me, which is frustrating.

I have insurance on both of my first home, which I already sold, and my current home at the same time. I've been with American Home Shield for going on 20 years already, which is a long time. I have recommended them to friends and some of them have actually got the service too. But sometimes, the Home Shield people working as the operators have a communication problem and it's hard to understand them. Their English is not that good, so that can be a challenge. Also, they sometimes may not have a sense of urgency when I have a major problem at home, especially when it’s hard to get people out. It's sometimes frustrating when dealing with them. But overall, I’m not disappointed with them and I can deal with what’s going on so I would still recommend them to someone.

One thing they need to relook at is compensating customers when the customer has been inconvenienced really bad, and especially when the customer has been with them a long time. Either we can’t get in touch with their service people or whatever it be, AHS doesn’t try to compensate for the inconvenience. That’s very bad when they have people who have been loyal to them for a long time because sometimes it’s not about the advertisements. It’s also word-of-mouth. Not trying to compensate somebody for a bad experience because of the people that they have been sending out is sending a negative connotation to other people, especially if the customer talks to someone.

I had a bad experience with Furnace Doctor that they sent out to fix my heater. This iteration has been terrible. The company Furnace Doctor had to come to my home at least four times to finally get my heater right. And then, the gentleman yesterday who came to fix up my home, he tore up my entrance to my attic. So, I thought they were very unprofessional. The heater is fixed now. It’s just it took them four times to come out there and fix it. And one time, they were supposed to call me back. They never called me back, so we went without heat for about three and a half weeks. So, it was just a bad experience. And then, the gentlemen come yesterday, he fixed it, but then, he messes up my entrance to my attic, and then it was like nonchalant, like, “That’s not that serious.” My ceiling in my house is messed up and looks horrible. My house is only four years old.

He said that they have insurance, so I don’t know what that really means. He wrote it down on the paperwork, so I’m gonna reach out to my company today. I think American Home Shield needs to reach out to them and everything. I shouldn’t have to do it. But yeah, so my attic thing is messed up and everything. He didn’t come prepared. He didn’t have a ladder. I had to provide him my ladder. He was a big dude, so I think what he did was when he went into the attic, you have to lift yourself up.

But a lot of the times, there’s two people that come. So, you got somebody holding a ladder so the guy can get all the way up and everything instead of trying to grab up on those boards to lift himself up. Especially if you're a big dude. He was a big dude. So, I think because he lifted himself up on it and everything, that’s how it ‘caused it to break.

Sundance Services get a A plus for me. That young man was on point. It was for a pump plumbing problem. As a matter of fact, the first people they sent out did not do a good job. But the second one that came out, Sundance, that came out, the young man, he was very professional. He did an excellent job. My shower was draining real slow, and so, the other people just wouldn’t take the thing off. But basically, he done a great job.

They were able to resolve the problem quickly and we haven't experienced any issue with it since they came. Moreover, they came on time and were quick. They also called before they came as was promised. The little bit of a heads up was helpful because I have dogs. If I were to call another repair person, it could be a lot more cost versus paying a service fee, which was why we renewed with AHS. Another reason is just knowing that I could schedule something either by phone or online and know that within a relatively short period of time, the issue could be addressed by a provider.

The double oven did not seem to be working. Kinston Refrigeration came to take it out and to make sure what was going on with it. The guy documented and they tried to order something but they could not. So, American Home Shield ended up replacing the whole oven. The one who came out and brought the new oven installed it, and so far it is working okay. The contractors were professional and nice.

I submitted a claim to AHS and their contractor, Lonestar Appliance Repair Services came out to do service. They came out twice for my dryer. The first time, they replaced something but then the system was frying after that and it wasn't until two full cycles until jeans would dry. I explained to Lone Star what was going on and they came back out and replaced the heater elements.

So far, I haven't had any kickbacks when submitting claims to AHS electronically. However, I would get duplicate emails telling me that service would contact me from a certain company. Also, I wouldn't get contact from the said company but then I'd get an email saying the same thing as the texts. Usually, I have to reach out to AHS's contractors. For my AC claim, I reached out to the contractor directly after making the initial electronic request to AHS and they told me that they would send a tech out.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the timeframe of AHS' contractors. They're extremely busy but they work around my schedule. They’re booked up during the week and they try to do the repair then but there's no way I can be there. With them, I can set a schedule in advance for 1 o'clock any Friday and they say yes. They're expedient and very technical. They know my problem by the symptoms I've given due to a previous experience they've had. I like that they narrow it down to one or two issues and they’re not wasting my time or theirs. With AHS, I can always know how I can tell what type of service I need. They give me options. They do quick and straight business. They make sure my issue gets repaired in a timely manner and correctly the first time.

The sink was leaking and I submitted the claim online, but the website crashed about four times while I was trying to do it, so the website wasn't so great. It said it wasn't available. I could submit the claim, but it wouldn't submit the claim. I called AHS and they told me to wait a few minutes and it would come back, and it did. Once I waited, the site came back and it was working and it was fine. It told me to expect a call within 24 hours. Normally, I get a text the same day.

Atlantic Appliances was really good. They were going to supply a new faucet for me because the parts were not available. I have two faucets in my master bathroom and it didn't match at all. I told them that I couldn't put that in here. One of our faucets is $600 and they were giving me a $75 faucet next to it. The tech said that they only have this certain amount of money for a faucet. I told them that I would buy the faucet, and they could install it. So I ordered the faucet and they came back and installed it. It was great. I was very satisfied. But I wish AHS covered TV.

Dubs Appliance Services came out for a refrigerator claim and they were great. I’d use them again anytime. My problem with AHS is that they authorized a new refrigerator because they couldn’t get a part for this one. They sent me via email the information on which one they recommended and some other options. So, I studied that for a couple of days and I decided that I would order the one they recommended.

On the email, I pushed the order button and heard nothing. This was about 10 or 12 days ago. I had this funny feeling in the back of my head because I didn’t hear from anybody. And somewhere I had read I would get an email. So, I started trying to call, which was not easy to get through. They want you to use the computer site and I tried that one but I didn’t get anywhere either. Finally, yesterday morning, after 50 minutes on the phone, I got through to them and found out that they didn’t get the order. Then, the rep said that they couldn't get what I ordered anymore.

I had just been to Lowe’s and looked it up. I just thought I’d order through AHS, it was gonna be delivered, and I wouldn’t have to do anything. Also, I didn't wanna put that on my credit card. The guy at Lowe's told me there’s plenty of that model number. But the AHS rep said Whirlpool said that they don’t have it in their warehouse. She recommended a General Electric and I said I didn't want it. I don't hear good things about them and I’ve had several guys that work on refrigerators, they stay away. I said I was gonna go back to Lowe’s. The unit had been on sale when I saw it last week. Fortunately, yesterday it was, so I ordered it from them. Then, I immediately went to the UPS office and emailed the receipt to AHS's email so that I can get reimbursed.

I’m glad it wasn’t something bad. The refrigerator works just fine. It was the icemaker. If it had been the refrigerator, then I probably would’ve gotten it here so I could get it delivered right away. But as it is, it’s still gonna be a week. I’ve had good service from AHS through this whole thing. And I had another warranty company at one point that was awful. So, between that one and this one, there’s no comparison. It’s just that it’s hard for me to believe that they didn’t have this model after five days or a week. They emailed me pictures and specifications. They gave about 10 different options and so, that’s hard for me to believe.

I bought this house seven months ago, and that was the reason I bought the American Home Shield policy. They tell me the life of the units are pretty close to right where they are now, so it’s almost like we’re waiting for the clock to tick and for them to each take a turn going out. I’m not sure how it’s gonna work at that point in time. I had a representative from Trane out here to look at their systems, and he had been a previous field person. They’d done work under American Home Shield, and he told me a bit of a horror story. He told me that if there is a leak in the condenser and they have to take it back to the shop and it takes two weeks to fix it, I’m without air-conditioning for two weeks. That's not what I signed up for, but I don’t know if that is correct or not.

Recently, one of the three AC units would not start. American Home Shield was quick about getting somebody assigned to come out, and once Integrity got it in their schedule, they came out and took care of it. The technician was absolutely top-notch. He was as good as I’ve ever seen, met or talked to. He communicated well and knew exactly what the issue was. Every time we turn it on now, it’s running.

When I bought the house, the owners had AHS with them. And I continued it because things continue to happen because the house is now 11 years old. Everything’s okay with AHS. I haven’t had any issues except with that one contractor who kept coming out here. He was awful. He took two weeks to fix my refrigerator. When he came out, he didn’t show up on time. When he came out here, he unplugged stuff and just left it and said, “I have to order this part and it’ll be here on this day.” I took that day off to be here, and he let me sit here all day until I called at 3 o’clock on that evening and he told me the part didn’t come in.

And then, American Home Shield had to end up calling him because it was two weeks I went without a refrigerator. So, when he was supposed to come back here, he once again showed up late and I told him I had to be out of here at this time because I have a doctor’s appointment. And he showed up 20 minutes after the time that I told him I need to leave here by. I had to cancel that doctor’s appointment because I had to stay here while he put in the part, and it was ridiculous. It was not good all the way around. I called AHS with him standing here. I said, “He is never coming to my house again. I don’t care where you have to fly somebody in. That man will never come to my house again.” Recently, my refrigerator quit working on one side, like the actual refrigerator part of it quit working. And Masters Appliance Heating and air came out and I love them. It's been doing great since they came out.

I went online and requested service for the dishwasher that was leaking. Then I got a text message saying who was going to be contacting me to set up an appointment. That came almost right away and I like the way that worked very well. The service guys contacted me and set up an appointment. That went real well too. Once the tech got here, he found out he did not have the part, so he made an appointment to come back. Then he installed it and it hasn't leaked since.

When I go online and request the service, the form doesn't allow me to really say too much about what's wrong. For example, we have a double oven floor model and the lower oven just stopped heating. So we put in the model number and requested the service, but until the guy got out here and did his research, he found out that he didn't have the part. That took a little bit longer because it was ordered then someone else took the part for something else. That took almost a week to get squared away. If there's a way to add a little bit more information about what is wrong with the unit, it might help in shortening the repair process. Otherwise, everything is really smooth. American Home Shield works like clockwork so we renewed. I was kinda surprised that the monthly fee went up 'cause I don't remember getting anything saying that it was gonna increase. I researched it and figured out what it was. It would be good to notify the customer.

He checked everything out and told me that my thermostat communicates and if it was clogged like the first guy said, my heater would be giving me errors. It's strange to have two different people say two different things. But he explained everything well to me. He was very friendly and very professional.

I also had American Shield come out for electrical. The guy that came out also looked at my other appliances even though he wasn't called out to see them. He noticed my dryer vent was one of the hard ones and it was kinked over 50% closed. He recommended one of the flexible ones and then the dryer would work better. The flexible one was put on, and now the air flows through better. I've had really good experiences with them. When I submit a claim, AHS has always set it up within a week, which is quite timely. And on the one day they had a cancellation, they were able to come out the very next day. I've had such a positive experience with AHS that I put it on my other rental home right away.

AHS offered me a payout to fix the washer on my own, not to replace the washer, or wait on the part. The repair service did attempt to fix the problem and was unable. That company recommended American Home Shield replace my washer. AHS decided to get a second opinion. The second company no showed and no called on my date and time scheduled. Imagine the inconvenience and suffering my family has gone through this holiday season. Pizza delivery just isn’t what a holiday dinner should be! I have called numerous times and spoken to numerous people without any success. Each of these calls takes hours, not 1 but 2 or 3 hours. I have spoken with American Home Shield, Whirlpool, and JB Hunt. I have escalated and spoken with supervisors and each of these companies without results. It’s a shame to say the least. I like that American Home Shield gives you the contractor's contact information, and if you want to, you can just call them yourself. You don’t have to wait for 24 hours for them to call you. I've had two plumbing companies out. The first one came because we were having a leak just outside our front door area. The plumber who came took care of the leak but then said that the regulator in our house needed replacing as we were getting too much pressure. The second time, I had a leak around my kitchen sink from my garbage disposal. The second plumber took care of the disposal and took a look at the regulator going into our house. He didn't have the part in his truck so he decided to catch another call, check back with the warehouse and let me know later that day.

But then, there was zero communication after that. There was no follow up. We thought he was coming back but that didn't happen. I tried calling their offices around 5:00 that day to get some kind of update. There was no answer. I left a message but then I didn't get a call back. I got a call the next day which fortunately I was home to take and the tech came back with the part. He took care of the job.

With AHS I wish that if they had one plumber come out and I have to do a follow-up claim, they would stick with the same plumber unless I ask for somebody different. That would avoid confusion. Also, while the plumber they sent was at my place, I couldn't place a basic claim right then and there to have them do more work. I have to pay extra for it as another claim while they are at my place. Certain jobs could have been easily done on the first day the contractor gets here.

I'm disappointed in AHS. I have a heater and every time it would get really cold, my heater would shut off. AHS kept sending R-Tech out to patch it up. I kept having to pay $100 cause their grace period expired. Every time their contractors would come back they would put a little part in it and a week later, it would go down again. Finally, after years, I changed up and told AHS to send me a new contractor. He put a new mold in and fixed my issue.

Another time, Home Shield sent a contractor to fix my toilet because something was leaking. The water department said my water was too much. My water bill was running up to $187 and I’m the only one living in my home. The tech came and fixed my toilet but then three weeks later, the water department said I still had a leak. So, they sent another tech out and he said the man that fixed it didn’t fix it right. That time, I had to pay another $100 deductible. It feels like every time AHS' contractors come out and they're supposed to fix my issue, it's not fixed and I have to pay a deposit again for somebody else to come.

Additionally, the people whom I call for customer service at AHS aren't from the United States. It's hard for them to understand what I'm trying to tell them. Eventually, I would get somebody that is over here in the United States and they would clear my issues up for me. I know AHS is trying to save money which is why they go out of the United States but I’d rather deal with people over here ‘cause they can understand when I’m trying to explain what’s going on.

American Home Shield had a better reputation than the other company. That was why I chose them and on their end, the experience has been great. But the work of the other people who are under contract with them is not so great. It's been three weeks now and the only thing Service Pro did was rip out the floor and the the wall. They keep saying that a plumber needs to come out and fix an issue. Well, the plumber fixed that issue but then Service Pro completely stopped working on the house. Now they say a plumber has to come out again. Then they're trying to say it's my responsibility to fix it. But that’s what they were hired for. Now, I've got a torn-up house with nobody working on it.

I submitted a claim for my microwave that wasn't working through my account on AHS' website. The website was easy to use and as soon as I submitted my request, AHS sent me an automated email telling me that my ticket was submitted and that their contractor, Atlantis Residential Services, would be in contact with me within the next two business days. Atlantis called me the Monday after the Saturday I submitted the claim. They gave me a window during which they would provide.

Atlantis was on time with their appointment and they arrived towards the beginning of the timeframe they provided. The techs told me what was going on and were very professional. We had to order parts and because my microwave was so old, the parts they ordered didn't fix it. AHS then passed my claim to the next contractor who would be replacing my microwave. Their rep called me that same day asking questions on dimensions for where the microwave was going to go and then sent me an email with a list of five or six different microwaves to pick from. That contractor was out within the next week which was pretty fast. It has been beneficial having my AHS warranty.

When I filed a claim with American Home Shield, Do Right Plumbing came in about a week. The contractors were very professional and friendly. They would explain everything that they were doing. We went over what the services were and they let me know what was going on. I had some toilets with some different things- the pressure and the mechanism. I also had a faucet in the kitchen and the water heater. They came in and fixed everything. One of the toilets was not flushing all the way. You have to sit and hold. The contractor adjusted it. There was something with the mechanism and then it worked okay for a little bit. It regressed though. With our hot water heater, the water would get hot then it would get cold. It lasts a little bit longer now. For the kitchen with the faucet, he adjusted a weight and that helped for a little bit, but it's still not functioning properly. I'll just call them back though.

Omega Force came out a couple of months ago and it was the same guy that came out for our most recent claim. It was fine. He fixed whatever last time, but then he came out, and it was Christmas Eve. He said, “Oh, I wish I would’ve looked at my notes ‘cause last time it was either this part or that part, and I could’ve ordered it.” We had to wait until New Year’s Eve to have it fixed. It was not his fault. I feel like American Home Shield tells him to just do the basics, and then it’s our responsibility to call back if it’s still not fixed, which is frustrating. I didn’t realize we only had two months to call. It was four months when I called.

The whole situation has been frustrating. My oven’s finally working great, but our fridge went out. There was something wrong with the motor. It had to be because it was super loud. My husband said don’t even bother dealing with American Home Shield and that we'll just go buy a new one. But I said I don’t know what we’re paying them for then. I submitted a review after being charged $100 and them not taking it back. I got an email from someone at the company, and I responded right away. They still haven’t responded. I got a 14-day past due notice yesterday. So, I called again and whoever I talked to on the phone assured me that the $100 would be taken care of. I don’t want it to get to the point where it goes to collection because I don't want it to be bad on my credit report. Also, they charge me monthly for my fees, and I don’t want them to just auto charge it, and then for me then to have to go back and fight to get it back.

AHS has been sufficient and they’ve fixed things. I've been with them for 19 years and at the end of every year, I look at the warranty and wonder what it would cost me I didn’t have them. Some years, I do well, and other years, they do well. So, it has worked out together and the service has been good enough that I’ve continued it. So, I’ve been reasonably pleased each year.

Recently, our AC unit was noisy and the tech from May Heating & Air, Thomas, came out. He found that the compressor was bad and AHS okayed the replacement. Then, he came out and put the new one in, but the noise remained. So, he came back, put in an electric fan motor, and it appeared to go very quiet. Since then, we found that the noise is very slowly coming back. In fact, I was on the edge of giving AHS a call, but I’m waiting to see. It seems to be worse in the cold weather and so on.

Aside from that, it cost me $900 to replace the compressor because it required so much fluid. It was in the contract that I would pay for that and I understand that but what I thought should have been a $75 claim turned out to be $975. So, that kinda got my attention. Thomas is an expert on this but he missed an awful lot here. He was very well-intentioned though. In fact, the guy came out on the 31st of December at 6 o’clock and that’s pretty darned good. So, I’m not nailing him through the wall, it’s just that I’ve paid $975 and I still have a rather noisy air conditioner. That’s a concern.

Also, of all of the things that we’ve had, our recent claim on the AC is the only one I can remember that’s had an ongoing situation. Almost always, when a guy comes in, he fixes the problem, then he goes home, and that's it. But that is why I’m not irate about the whole thing and I understand how it happened. I have recommended AHS to a few people, too, and most of them were happy I did. They were a couple who called and said it didn't work out so good for them but most of the ones that I referred kept the warranty at least for a while.

The first day the tech came, he didn't know what the problem was so he didn't have the part needed for one of my toilets. Somebody else came two days later who had the parts and changed the flapper. Plus, they called me before they came because that was what I asked since the window was kinda long, and they did that. So, the technician was very professional and I had a very nice experience. Other than that, I had a previous home warranty at one time and they did pre-maintenance services. For instance, they pre-check stuff out so that you can keep up the service and the longevity of it would be longer. But this one did not do that. So, that’s the only downfall that I have for this particular home warranty.

The guy AHS sent came with the parts, which saved time, for the dryer to be fixed. Normally, a lot of times, these people come out and it takes a minute because they have to order a part to come back out. So it was very convenient that he had the part with him when he came. He was also very informative and let me know every step of the way what he had done. I've been with AHS for 6 years and they're a great service provider -- the after service included. But sometimes the process of submitting claims is a little bit longer. Once you submit, you have to wait for the service provider to schedule the time. It's not what I consider a timely manner.

Mister Freeze came out the first time because the air was not getting hot. They said that they fixed it, but the master bedroom was cold. They came back out a second time, and they said that it was fixed correctly the first time but that the bedroom is so far away from the unit that it would take a long time for the bedroom to get heated up. Overall, Mister Freeze was good. When I have a claim, I call American Home Shield's 800 number, and I talk to the lady, and then once it’s been approved then I call the vendor.

The appliance people were good. But I haven't really had any issue with the people, except for the plumber that came out. I wasn’t crazy about his personality. Also, I did not like the electrician that came out. He had a bad attitude. I'm not happy with American Home Shield’s service because they don’t pay for so many things. The light switch in the garage that controls the light on the outside of the garage needed to be replaced, but the electrician said that they would not replace that. Last time, I didn’t use the insurance. I just called the plumber because I didn’t wanna pay $75 for a plumber to come out and for them to say that they don’t cover it.

I called the plumber for the similar problem that I had before that I already paid the $75. It was within two months when I did the claim for that problem, but the rep from American Home Shield said it was more than two months ago. But we figured out it wasn’t more than two months ago, and it was within the two months. Then she said it was not within two months, but it was within 30 days. But first she said it was two months, and now she was saying it was 30 days. I told her they need to stand by their word on the original two months, and then she checked with somebody. She said she was checking with her supervisor and they said, “No. You’re gonna have to pay another $75.”

I probably will not renew my American Home Shield for that reason. The home insurance plan doesn’t work the way I think it’s beneficial to the consumer. It works when it’s beneficial to the company. There is no flexibility in their system. The coverage is extremely limited and they’re not flexible with making exceptions. They also need to reevaluate some of their vendors. Before I started working with Mister Freeze, there was another heating and air conditioning company that was their first choice. Mister Freeze was the second person they sent me to. The first company no-showed three times. They were rescheduled three times, and they gave me a four-hour time frame. I called both the company itself and American Home Shield. American Home Shield switched the contractor to Mister Freeze who was very reliable and did excellent work.

My recent claim for my heating was the first time we've ever had a good call with AHS besides the claim for our dryer. With them, I haven't been able to talk to anybody and over the phone, I would never get the right person. We would call them for a plumbing issue but then they would send us heating people. This is because AHS' reps are foreigners and they don't understand us. Previously, we had submitted a plumbing claim for our sink and AHS sent us electrical people. So we called and AHS called another company and made us wait three days. Our sink was broken and our water was turned off. The company AHS called couldn't come either. And so, we hired somebody that could come in that day and fix it, and cost us $250. AHS refunded my $75 that I had already paid and it took a week to get that back in my account.

This time, I submitted a claim online and it was amazing. We got a call within two hours. The next day, the tech they sent from Weatherwise came. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He explained everything. He was certified to do what he was gonna do and he took care of my problem. Usually, AHS takes my money out of my account immediately. This time, their guy came and fixed everything first, then they took my money. This last claim was wonderful.

I filed a request to American Home Shield to service the ice and water dispenser of my refrigerator. The switch was broken, so it stayed on all the time. We had to prop it to keep it from flowing. Within 24 hours, they let me know that the contractor would be coming by, and they told me who it was. And then, Suncoast called and said that they would be there on a day and asked if I would be available. It even gave me a little map thing that told me when he was coming and where he was coming from. So, it was really cool.

My experience with Suncoast was great. The tech called before he got here and I gave him an overview of what was going on. And when he got here, he looked at it and said, "I can tell you immediately what it is. I'm gonna just take a quick look at it, but I'm gonna have to order a part." He ordered the part and he came back almost two weeks after. It was a while, but it wasn't really a pressing issue. We had been dealing with it for a month or two before I actually got around to putting in the claim. So, the time that I had to wait for the part wasn't really that bad.

So far, everything is doing wonderfully. I've been with AHS since we've been in the house, almost 20 years. In that whole time, my experience has been good. I may have had five or six issues and it has never been a problem. I understand that prices have to go up so that's not really a big deal. Every time I put in an order, somebody comes out and either they repair it right there on the spot, or they have to order a part. But everything that I've called for service on, they've taken care of, and I don't worry about any of the appliances or anything in my house as far as that's concerned.

With Home Shield, I like to talk to somebody on the phone when filing claims so I can explain what's going on in more detail. A couple of times, I told them I had a leak in my vanity. The toilet and the shower would work but then after a while, the vanity would fill up with water. Their contractor, ASAP, took a look at and said it was a bigger job. They also said they didn't know whether AHS was gonna cover it. They were supposed to call me back to see if they could go ahead with the repair and see if they could be covered. However, ASAP never came back nor told me how much the repair was gonna charge for.

Another time my clothing dryer was not working and the company sent by AHS said nothing was wrong with the dryer. They said the issue was with our breaker. But then, when I had people working here for an outside stairway, the tech then said to let him take a look at the dryer and the problem was an electrical thing in there. That tech got the part needed for the shortage or break and fixed it for me. I called AHS saying that I shouldn't be charged for the dryer claim as somebody else came, got the part and fixed it for me. The reps told me that the contractor they sent never charged me which was odd. Still, everybody sent by Home Shield has done me good.

Most recently, I had a shower leak. The showerhead would turn off at a certain point instead of all the way. When we turn it all the way off, water would stop at a certain point, so we had to back the knob up a little bit. Infinity Plumbing, AHS' contractor came to fix it. But then, it started leaking again. We waited a week to solve it ourselves without having to call again. We nonetheless called again and Infinity came the following day. They did a good job. We told Infinity about the vanity issue as I had called American Home Shield and told them that maybe during the process of servicing the shower leak claim, Infinity could take a look at it. When they came to fix the shower, they came and they just told us that maybe we could call the plumbing company and maybe the plumbing company could take a look at it and see what they could do.

We’ve had American Home Shield since August of ’18 and we didn’t use it on the first year. This is our second year and the rates were comparable to everybody else and had a little bit more coverage for what we were paying. I had a plumbing issue and I went online and placed the claim. I paid the deductible and after I contacted the contractor, they came out the next morning. My hot water heater safety valve was leaking and it flooded my backyard. We kept having a lot of water in the backyard since it was draining out. The guy recognized the problem and he replaced the hot water heater valve. It took about 15 minutes. The Lindsay Company did a great job.

He was very neat about his work in my house and had a very prominent ID displayed so I would know who he is. The refrigerator has been excellent since the repair.

I had an issue with my air conditioner last summer. Instead of trying to fix it, the gentleman that Total Air Care sent out basically told me that the unit was too small for my house. The house was built in '94 and the unit has been working all this time. So, he initially did not want to do anything. Then, they came back out and he replaced something, and it worked for the rest of the summer.

When we started having issues with the heater in the wintertime, I requested American Home Shield not to use Total Air Care because I was not satisfied with the service. But American Home Shield insisted and assigned me to them anyway. It took them seven trips, changing different things each time until they finally got to the point where they realized it needed to be replaced. American Home Shield then explained to me what my out of pocket cost would be. The first mistake that was made was Total Air Care left off one of the things that I was responsible of paying for. So American Home Shield gave me one quote and then Total Air Care gave me another. I had to dispute back and forth for about a day, but eventually, I paid it.

I inquired about getting the total cost of the replacement of my furnace, not just the out of pocket expenses, but no one gave it to me. I asked four times. American Home Shield and Total Air Care just kept tossing me back between the other, insisting that neither one of them could give me the service. The reason I was asking is because, as a consumer, I want to know if it is in my best interest to use the warranty program or I may have been able to get a better quote without it. I've had estimates for a total replacement of heating and air that stop at $5,600. Finally, Total Air Care gave me one, but I wondered where they would get $8,000 just for my furnace. But I let that go.

The last straw was the day they took the unit in - it is so loud. It's like a freight train going through my house. They first told me to change my filter, then they said that the unit is pulling so much air through the return that I probably need another return vent. And I'm thinking to myself, were measurements not taken when they estimated to replace the furnace? Was an assessment not done to determine everything that I would need? Even if I had to pay for that out of pocket, I would've been okay with that to have my unit run efficiently and not sound like a freight train. I had to literally go out and buy a soundbar to put on my TV so I could hear it over the heater.

I contacted Total Air Care and American Home Shield but neither of them responded in a manner that was satisfactory. They were both trying to convince me that there's nothing wrong with my unit - that it is fixed and working properly. It's heating. They said they just need to have someone call and explain it to me, which is not needed. I understand the concept of the unit working properly, but if I need additional ductwork, then let us get that done so that the unit won't be so loud.

Also, when they did the install, they didn't bring a carbon monoxide detector. Luckily, I already had one in my home. So, when the guy came back out to put that in, it was a different tech. I ran the whole idea of the additional duct by him. His response was, "You know, it's just gonna be loud. This is a high-speed motor, it's just gonna run loud. You could do additional ductwork, but I wouldn't tell you that. Because why waste your money if you don't need it? It's just going to be loud." He explained a few more technical aspects of it about the fan and how many revolutions it was making, and why it would be so loud, and I kinda accepted it. He gave me a little more of an in-depth explanation of what could be causing all the noise.

A lady from Total Air Care promised me that she was going to check with her regional person to see what they could do to resolve the issue but she never called me back. I'm done with Total Air Care. I also spent about an hour and a half on the phone with a rep from American Home Shield, because I was really upset, and she reimbursed half of the service fee. That was sweet, but that didn't have anything to do with solving my problem.

I recently purchased a home that included a one year home warranty covered by American Home Shield (AHS). Throughout the year I had made four service requests for various issues and had poor experiences with each request. One of the things I learned is that AHS has service agreements with contractors that vary in levels of experience. In one scenario, I had a service technician come to my home and provide zero communication to me while I had asked questions regarding the problem. They then turned around and called AHS to indicate that they would be unable to correct the issue and that I would have to pay out of pocket at the time of coming to my home versus filing a claim to see if it would be covered.

The technician was not knowledgeable of the issue and in fact I was able to resolve the issue myself with little to no experience. The claim process for American Home Shield is terrible. Not just in one scenario but in multiple cases. They say they will call you when there is updates on the claim status but instead you have to constantly badger them for an answer. Poor communication, untrusted service technicians, slow claims and response time led me to not renew the home protection plan and go with someone else. I was highly disappointed in my experience with American Home Shield and will not be recommending them to family, friends and colleagues.

April 2019 our five year old Kenmore electric stove/oven began erratic behavior. It would cook slow the front large burner and fast on the rear large burner. A service request was made and a local contractor dispatched. The contractor came out, diagnosed what he believed the issue was (burner) and ordered parts. A week later the part arrived and was installed. It seemed okay until a few days later. The erratic temperature was back. I placed a two service calls, the other for our fridge which was replaced (I ended up being out of money on that due to them using J.B. Hunt as a delivery service. They got stuck in my yard, damaged my water line to the fridge and put a ding in my new one). Took months to get some of my money back but I digress.

The other call was concerning the stove. I paid and was given a date in May, close to my fridge delivery. Cool, I take off and wait for the tech. These mental giants stood me up. No call, no show but got my money and monthly fee mind you. I call AHS and go round and around for two weeks with them. I was given the usual script, oh ahs apologizes and will give you a complimentary service call. Liar, you mean honor the second one I've paid for in less than a month.

Now we get to June and another request is in and a new company comes out. The guy was professional, and this time says, "It's your switch controller." Alright he orders the part, a week later he's back. The part is installed and seems fine. Nope a day later the burner on 4 is cooking red hot as if on the highest temperature level. I call AHS again and inform them of the situation and this time they will send Sears. Alright, the subject matter expert is coming. The guy arrives promptly and says, "It's your.....burners." After ordering two, he shows up and installs them now around July. The rear large burner was okay but the front large wasn't. He says, "I'll order another and ship it directly to you." Okay, we made some progress I can deal with that. About three days later the burner is on my porch. I installed it and nope that's not it either.

I call back again and now we're into the fall. The same Sears tech comes out and says, "It's your.....burners, I'll order all of them." Huh, I have two brand new one, how bout the control panel? "Nope it's your.....burners sir, but if this doesn't work I'll replace the switches." It didn't work with the four new burners. The Sears tech took photos showing no wires damaged and no negligence on our part using the stove. December 2019 I call AHS again for the same issue. The same Sears tech shows up. He diagnosed all four switches bad. I distinctly recall him saying "if this doesn't work, I plan to tell them you have a gremlin in the stove." It didn't work and I put another call in. I was granted a service call. They said Sears verified they would send some 12.31.19. I asked, "Are you sure?" AHS representative swore that the appointment would occur. I received a confirmation email at 4 am new year's eve a tech would arrive.

8 am my cell lights up with a text notification of cancellation. The second freaking time they burned me and I took off to wait. I call and get a guy finally in Malaysia who was a customer representative floor manager. He seemed nice enough but I wanted someone in the states to speak with. He understood and I explained it appears ahs was passing me around. I didn't ask for a new stove, a reasonable fix was all. The guy actually gave me his email address and stated he'd contact his manager in the states. This was 1.2.2020 and on the same day I get a text from Sears saying they were coming by......the hell you are.

I didn't make a new appointment. I can't afford to take off at my leisure. The ahs manager stated he would be in touch in a few days. I gave three and had to contact him. He replied, no word yet but he was going on vacation next week but would remedy the issue before that. Of course I turned blue waiting although my skin is a nice mahogany brown. Now 1.12.2020 here I am writing a seven page letter about the disservice I've received. Ahs couldn't care any less though. I figure with the lost days off=time+money. Also the time waiting and speaking on the phone I could have bought a new stove. Not to mention consistently paying my monthly and service fees. I can truly say this is one experience I never want to repeat. It's true. Experience is the best teacher.

My hot water heater wasn’t giving out any hot water. I called American Shield and then, someone contacted me and told me Medallion would be the contractor. They were on time and the service was great but since then, I’ve been getting hot water throughout my house except the master bathroom. The water is lukewarm and I have not ran anything. I had this hot water heater put in in 2017 and it was supposed to have been brand new but it went out a year later. A guy who was not from AHS came out and he said that it was the switch in my box. It didn’t last long, so the guy who came out from AHS went to the box and the switch was not plugged in all the way. Hot water heaters don’t go out in two years but I’m having problems. I think it’s due to the switch because the hot water heater is not handling it and it is blowing that switch.

I’ve been with AHS since 2017. Mostly, it was them that you saw the commercial on. I’ve only had three contractors and one was sort of standoffish and wasn’t friendly. He was the one who came to fix the leak in my air conditioner that was leaking into my bedroom. But the other two who came out for the hot water heater were very good. I’m pleased with American Home Shield. I have no problems with them and I like the price.

Exit Garage Doors was terrific. Unfortunately, we're not having a good experience with Accord Appliance on our refrigerator that has been broken. They're scheduled to come out today. This would be the fourth visit and we've been without a fridge in our house. AHS asked if we wanted another contractor to come out. They said it would be another $75. I told them I'd like to finish with the people who started it rather than start all over again.

Today, we have another appointment. They finally got in the part about a week and a half ago and that's how long it's taken. This is the earliest date they could come out. I think we finally got the right technician. I'm not sure the first guy really knew what he was doing, although he is their high-end technician. We have a Sub-Zero refrigerator and he works on all the high-end refrigerators. He did replace R12 Freon and did one other thing but he was puzzled by the continuing problem we had. Then he was a no-show 'cause he got sick. He didn't call the company so they didn't know he wasn't coming. They got somebody else to come out and within five minutes, he analyzed what the problem was and that's what he's gonna fix today when he gets here.

I've been with AHS for 8 years and I'm very dissatisfied with them. I used to have them years ago and they were very good. We have another home in Arizona and we have OneGuard. We've had them for 15 years and they're terrific. We've never had an issue with them. They don't operate in California though. Otherwise, I'd have them and not American Home Shield. I have not been happy with American Home Shield especially the experience with our air conditioning unit. They were awful. The air conditioning unit was replaced 3 years earlier by somebody I know in the business who mainly does commercial properties. Since he's a friend and a neighbor, he put ours in and it was a top-quality unit. They came out and evaluated that I needed a brand new unit. They totaled our air conditioning unit out, which was still under warranty by the company, not by American Home Shield.

Now, the contractor that American Home Shield sent out did say that it was most likely the coil that needed replacement. It's very expensive but it couldn't be more expensive than an entire air conditioning unit. We got the part free from the person who installed our air conditioning unit. He charged us to replace it. It was a $700 charge and we got $2,100 from American Home Shield as the cash-in-lieu of the repair. Once that happened, they will no longer stand behind the air conditioning unit, which I really don't care. I don't want them ever looking at my air conditioning unit again even if I need it. I'll have somebody else repair it.

There was no water or ice in the refrigerator. It was under "covered" in our American Home Shield policy and I had went ahead bought replacement filters and put them in. They didn't work. Maybe there was a clog in the line. So, I went online to see what the possible problems would be. Maybe there was a filter or a little sensor on the back was a possibility. I did some research before I called them. And as it turned out, the piece that I bought to put in wasn't in all the way. In other words, I put it in tight, but I didn't realize it had to be forced in and then turned after that. Well beneath that was plastic fitting, you don't wanna screw something in too tight. I was afraid to break it. And I didn't know what the spot was that it had to go in, looking at the instructions on the blueprint of the filter, it just said "screw in."

When I put the old filter in, water was barely trickling out. So, that must have been the original filter from the refrigerator, when it was bought from the previous owner, so then of course, it's time to take a look at it. If the filter is clogged, it's not going to process the water. In this case, since it wasn't processing the water, maybe it's time to buy a new filter. I think that was the attitude that I too.

And then when I ordered the new filter, of course, it comes with directions, "Open the door, off the lid, unscrew it, put the new one in." Then of course, putting the new one in, it went in and stopped, but I didn't force it to lock in place. And since it wasn't locked in place, and that was the necessary piece to allow water and ice to go. Since it wasn't locked in place, it wasn't processing either ice or water through the door. The guy from Antech Appliances came out. I've had him before on other calls, the guy came out and he immediately recognized that. He unscrewed it. He looked at it. He screwed it back in. He secured it in place and cinch it tight. He showed me where the water was processing and the ice would process through the door.

After he did it right, he undid it and then showed me what the right way to do it, was the case I ever had to do it again, the next time the filter was gonna be changed. Very proactive. The second time I've had that guy come out. I have other property that I met him at a couple of years and very, very sharp. And it's probably the third time I've dialed AHS in the last couple of years for different properties 'cause I have multiple homes.

I am on my 29th month total with American Home Shield in different properties. For homes that I sold, I have included an AHS warranty as well, because as I user, I was happy with them. And then, of course, as a seller, I wanna provide the best available coverage. I was very happy with what they provided for the value. I don't look at the cost, but I look at the value. This particular property, this is the fourth service call that I made with AHS total. And in each case, they were there within the next day or at my convenience, and each, the problem was quickly solved with the best possible remedy.

In one case, it was credit towards a replacement, which was totally fine because of the age of the appliance. And the other cases, they were great, professional and quick. So, I would put them on a highly-recommend list of who I work with, their professionalism, their level of contractors, and the responsibility of the contractors that they provided, a professional prompt service. And one particular job, it was much more drastic, but they came out twice. And I thought it was gonna be impossible, they made it work. They dug into walls for example.

Every time I call them for service, they follow-up, I follow-up immediately. Their level of professionalism has been well worth the money, and then the situation, just the level of service that you expect. If there's another company out there they can use AHS as role model. When I first started calling, it took forever to get through some of the system because of the long wait. But after that, once I got into the system 'cause I went in a very reasonable period of time. Maybe I had the wrong number. In other words, when I was dialing. The first time I started calling, I started dialing the number and I was like, "The system takes forever." But once I found out what number to call, maybe I was calling a generic number and not the specific number for the service. That was the only growing pain. But once I did that and I can call right now at 9:30, have somebody on the phone within a reasonable period of time, took the job order and quickly dealt with. I'm very happy with them.

My husband called American Home Shield for a broken microwave and their customer service was very good. A few days later, a tech from Residential Maintenance Solutions came out. He was nice. He tried to fix it but couldn’t because of the door. They couldn’t get the part and when they got it, it wouldn’t work. So, AHS decided to give us a microwave. The guy who came out and put it in did a very good job. We didn’t get the upgrade. We got the one they chose to give us, but it was very nice. I'm very pleased.

We’ve had contractors come out to look at the electric. We just had the gas pipes replaced the other day because we had a major gas leak. When we have a contractor come out to the house, they do a great job initially of looking over everything and diagnosing the problem and seeing what’s wrong. At this point, with the electric, the water plumbing, and the gas, AHS's contractors basically put a band-aid over top like an amputation.

When we first had the electric guys come out, they said, “This is wrong,” and literally told us that the house needed to be rewired and then proceeded to replace an external breaker on the house. And a box that needed replacement also, they couldn’t replace it. When the water guy came in, he did the same thing and said, “This is wrong.” And we have a report that says, “Basement needs replumbing,” and all he was able to do was replaced one tiny pipe that had burst that went out to an external spigot. He was not able to schedule or fix anything else that was wrong with the plumbing, which is multiple. So, whenever we’ve had somebody come out, they put that little band-aid on there and it gets things running again for a little while, but there’s still these major problems. We have the electrician coming back out today for another visit because after they “fixed the problem,” we lost all power to the house four days later.

We’ve been in this house since we closed on December 11th, and our sewer drainage system has gone out, our electric has gone out and needs replaced, our water needs replaced, and our gas just got replaced. American Home Shield replaced one breaker when the electric went out. Columbia Gas luckily found it in their hearts to replace both our internal and external pipes free of charge, just because we explained to them that the chances of that system getting redone was very slim after the ordeals that we’ve gone through with the other problems. And the plumbing was replaced too. It was a four-foot section that went from a main line out the wall to a spigot. It didn’t fix the other spigot that is also broken. And per his report, the issues that we’re having with water pressure and water discoloration are due to the other issues in the basement plumbing. But he was not able to address it.

The information that is communicated to Realtors and to lenders, and then the information that is put in the information packet that is given to homebuyers needs to be updated and be more specific. Because what we were led to believe was that AHS covered everything from the roof down for the first year, that if something wasn’t working, it would be fixed and/or replaced with a system or something that did as long as it wasn’t an act of God. It even says normal wear and tear and we haven’t seen that. We’ve expressed this to all people that we’ve talked to including regional managers and we’re getting the same information from them, “That’s not what we cover.”

The technician came, and said there's no way to fix or have access on how he can fix the clog in my sink. So, he asked me to do it differently, but I have to pay. But I said I am paying for my insurance, and still he didn’t do anything because he asked me to pay. I called American Home Shield, and they said whatever the technician said they have to go with it. In short, they didn’t do anything and I paid the $75 service fee.

And the lady whom I spoke with American Home Shield to was not good too. I said, “How can I get this fixed? I paid the service fee.” And he said, “If you wanna get that back, call the arbitration company.” She gave me the number. I am planning to stop this because this is ridiculous. I’ve been paying $65 monthly, and just found out that my contract is up to May. So I just have to wait until May before I will cancel the insurance.

You could put your money into your account and just don't touch it and it'd do the same thing, for the most part. I submit claims on the phone. It's convenient. For a few who don't have time to do the online thing, you can do it that way.

I had a claim and when the other guy came out, it was a few other things that he had mentioned. But Brookfield Heating & Coolin was great to me. The technician was professional and he had made a few comments. It took them a long time to clear the check. It took them a long time to cash that check. American Home Shield should also be okay with sending contractors that go out to Brookfield, the other place they are sending, the ones that we'd be comfortable coming in this area. They get a whole different type of people and I only know that from just speaking to other people that have AHS.

I’ve had AHS for about five years and have been very pleased with it. I’ve had electrical work and lots of plumbing done and so far, there has been only one time when the work wasn’t good. TNT came out for my garbage disposal and my water heater was making weird noises. They were very good and efficient. I felt very comfortable with the plumbers. They know their jobs. When the first guy came out, he said it was the motor for the water heater and that needed to order it. They ordered it, and then they scheduled the time. However, the motor didn’t come in. They were very good about calling me. We rescheduled for the next day because the motor should have been in by 4:00.

Then we had a rainstorm and for whatever reason, the repair was delayed and they called to reschedule again. Then, Friday a week ago, nobody showed up. When I called that Saturday and said that nobody showed up, the woman said that they were closed and would call me on Monday. They came last Wednesday and fixed the motor. Then I went to my garage on Friday, my hot water was leaking. I called and put in another request for AHS. The guy came out yesterday and now, I need a whole new water heater.

We have been using American Home Shield warranty on various houses for about 8 years already and we are on our fourth house with them. I love that it’s paid for itself every year and I don’t have to worry. I always get the big warranty, so that I don’t have to worry. Then I call them and I pay my 75 bucks to get a professional out to the house who come within a reasonable amount of time. I make sure I’m at home to let the person in when they get there and then I tell them what’s going on. I am also a real estate agent, which is how I came to discover American Home Shield. I recommend them to all of my customers because I’m a user of the product. If I didn’t use the product myself, I wouldn’t be doing it.

I’ve bought older houses and after having them on the first house for myself, I realized that it really gives peace of mind. For example, when one has a hot water tank go bad on an older house, it’s gonna need some plumbing retrofit because they already don’t make them the way that they did 40 years ago. Since I have a bigger plan, American Home Shield covers some of that. The water heater would probably cost me about $1,300 for it to be done and it needed a retrofit because it didn’t have an expansion tank. Also, the electric box was literally right underneath where the TPN valve drained. All of that was fixed and the whole thing ended up with a call-out fee of 465 bucks. So, I got a substantial discount.

Our last house in Florida had a pool pump. It’s an older house and I had other plumbing issues that have gone on. I have called American Home Shield and they’ve always been prompt. I usually get a response back within 24 hours or 48 hours if it’s over the weekend or a holiday. Then, somebody is out within the week to take care of things.

In our current house, we’ve been in it since June, and I’ve had 4 or 5 service calls in the last 6 months for different things that have crapped up. When a contractor first came out for the water heater, they thought it just tripped its breaker ‘cause it was not working. So they came out and the guy pushed the button, and then it started working all of a sudden. Literally, it was like, “Okay. Great.” They hung around to make sure that it’s sealed and that we actually had some hot water before they left. They were 5 minutes down the road when the TPN valve blew and caused it to short again. I called them and they came right back and took care of it. It was a great service.

DrainGo was also great. They came out relatively quickly. It was only about 2 or 3 days before they were out to actually see what the problem was, and then they had to order a part. So it was a little bit longer than that before they actually did it. But they came, cleaned up after themselves, were courteous, and did their best not to mess up my house. I would use them again. Even if I had to call for non-warranty related issues, I would definitely keep them in my arsenal for plumbing issues.

AHS's website does not warn you that if you submit a claim via the web, then you cannot go back to try to expedite the claim. I had a claim due to a pipe leak into the slab, but because I submitted it online, I locked myself in and made it so that I could not expedite the call. I was informed about it by AHS but that needs to be much clearer on their website.

The Pro-Lock rekey was perfect and went very smoothly. They were very communicative and did the job well. But for my next claim, which was for a leak, AHS's service professional never called me. We spent the Christmas holidays with no water. It took seven days before they finally started to respond, but by then I had already hired a plumber to fix it. AHS needs to do a better job screening their service professionals. If you were to look at the service professional on Google reviews or Yelp, they have 1-star ratings from multiple folks because they never called anybody back and do shoddy work.

The water in the master bathroom would not shut off. It would only turn so far and it wouldn't even be a drip, but it would constantly run. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and told the rep that the problem might be a valve. The guy from Accent Plumbing came out to service my request and did a good job. He looked and he told me it was a shower valve. He took it out and put a new one in. I also told AHS rep that my disposal was acting up, and if that could be put on the same claim or to be submitted separately. They told me it can be on the same one because the tech should be able to do both things, and sure enough he was. He looked at it and said that it seems to be working fine. I told him to turn the water on. He did and it started to drip from the bottom. Then he said, "Oh, yeah. It is busted." And then he put a new one on.

Since the repair, it has been great. I was just a little disappointed with the clean-up part. They removed the stuff from under the counter or sink or whatever they're working. When they finished, you would think that they would just wipe the water that they were working with and put the stuff back under there, but they didn't. I had to clean under there anyway and I guess, that was what they were thinking. Overall, we're happy with the service and the experience was good.

I had a recent claim regarding a plumbing issue and it was fine. They scheduled the next day after I put in the claim. It was on a Sunday that they scheduled, so that was kinda nice. They were out on Monday and it was within the time period. The guy explained to me what the issue was. He said he had to go Home Depot to get some parts. He was there for 45 minutes. He came back and it took him 15 minutes to fix it. I have a lot of old appliances that will probably be breaking soon, so I need to have coverage on those and I've already done my renewal with AHS. I haven't had too many claims but they've been okay so far.

The guy who came for my garage door opener was awesome. He came out quickly and identified the problem immediately. Moreover, he had what he needed on his truck and fixed it within half an hour. It was perfect. The other contractor who came for my washing machine was not so good. We were without a washing machine for almost two months, which was not easy to do with little kids. We called the claim in and the contractor finally came out about 10 days later. When he came, he fixed something but said he wasn't sure if it was gonna work. We tried to run a load and it didn’t work. It was leaking and whatever the problem was.

We called AHS back and said it wasn't working and that the guy even said he didn’t think it was going to. They told us they were just gonna replace the whole thing, which was good. We had to order a replacement machine which took about 10 days to get here. When the contractor brought it, they said they won’t hook it up because there was some corrosion on our hookup. We knew it was okay, but our point was, why didn’t the guy look at that when he was here the first time? They dropped it off but just left it in our garage and they didn’t take the old one. We had to get a plumber to replace the little valve so that it didn’t have any corrosion on it. He also hooked the machine up for us. There was so much going on that it was like a fulltime job keeping track of that. Why do I have to do all that work?

But I was taken aback at the confusion with a second person coming out. The contractor fixed everything during the first time. But then we got a call that said somebody else was coming out I was confused why they were coming out, but they did and the guy said that they have already done the work. The interactions until the guy came out a second time were very professional. I really liked how they handled it. They even sent the picture of the driver. Paul’s Appliance Services came out to fix the dishwasher. We called them on the 26th and the contractors came on the 3rd. The communication has been horrible. He came out on the 3rd and said that it needed a part. He ordered the part and the part got there two days later. They were scheduled to come out the next Tuesday and I got a call about five minutes before they were supposed to be there and they said his car had broken down and he wasn’t gonna make it but that they would let me know when he could come back out. I said, “Hopefully, tomorrow." Because I spent a whole day waiting. But they don’t come out that day to my area. So, they didn’t make an exception.

And then they were supposed to come out Friday and I was there waiting, but I was out in the garage. So he called and I missed the call, but I called him back about 10 minutes later and they already had canceled my call. Even though I waited all day Tuesday for him and they didn’t come, they wouldn’t wait 10 minutes for me to call back to confirm. So, now they’re not coming. He canceled Friday and now they said they’re coming Wednesday, which originally they told me they don’t come out here on Wednesday. It’s just been really frustrating. It hasn’t been very accommodating. I’m going from December 26th ‘till the 15th without a dishwasher. I’ve had some frustrations, but I’ve also had some good experiences with AHS.

He came and checked the unit and the heater, and then he showed me how to work it. It was strange because I got into the house and it didn't come with a whole lot of instructions, and I was afraid to pull off the face of the thermostat. And when I did, it was easy.

I have had AHS for a few years now. I have had three issues for which I could file a claim, but only chose to file a claim on two of them. The first issue I had was the motor died for our garage door opener. I had the option of taking whatever replacement unit they deemed "comparable" (I'll come back to this in a moment). The unit that died was clearly ancient, so I decided my money was better spent on buying and installing what I wanted, so I opted not to file a claim. It took me 12 hours to install, but I have all the features I want, and it's whisper quiet. The second claim I filed was for electrical service. The problem was resolved quickly. But my third issue was our gas furnace, and here is where American Home Shield really shows its true colors.

At random, I signed up for one of those $20 furnace inspection deals, and the guy came out and said the 30 year old furnace in our home had a cracked heat exchange. That particular company did not work with AHS, so I called AHS, and scheduled an a technician. He came out and determined the same thing. He should me where trace amounts of carbon monoxide was building up in our vents (not nearly enough to be dangerous or set off the three carbon monoxide detectors in our home). But, it's a concern nonetheless.

AHS will not tell you the brand or model that they think is an equivalent replacement. They wouldn't tell me with the garage door motor, and they would not tell me with the furnace. The York we have was rated at 90% efficiency and 160,000 BTUs. Even though I asked several times and even asked to speak to a supervisor, they would not tell me what unit they would approve and would not let me speak to a supervisor. They offered me the option of taking a $900 dollar payout and arranging with a different contractor. They did say that they would let the assigned HVAC tech know what unit they approved, so I hounded the tech until they at least told me the specs of the furnace.

AHS approved a Payne 80% efficiency, 150,000 BTU furnace. I'd never heard of Payne, so I called the company and flushed out the model based on the specs. Payne, by their own description is the lowest tier brand of Carrier. Their 2nd highest tier is Bryant. So it's not like they even tried to be on par with what I had. So I did a bit more research and learned the difference between an 80% and 90% efficiency furnace. It's not just the added cost of the gas to run the thing multiplied over years...anything above 90% efficiency can be vented through a PVC pipe, anything lower than 90% efficiency has to be vented through a fireplace flue because the heat generated is too high for PVC. So it's not just that they want to buy the cheapest unit possible, but in their choosing, it's going to cost me a lot more money both in the usage of fuel and to accommodate the venting requirement. I have pushed back big time. I am still waiting on an answer.

The second shady thing they do is the assign whatever repair company they choose, and once chosen for you, you can't change to a different vendor, and you can't get a competitive bid on the work. I was told it would cost an additional $700 out of pocket to retrofit the new subpar furnace. This included electrical, ductwork and routing to the drain (never mind that ductwork and electrical is covered in my policy). We are literally talking about a $3 pvc pipe going to the drain. I asked the HVAC company to itemize this whopping $700 charge. I am still waiting to hear back from them at all, about anything. I mean really!

If they were going to replace the furnace with the exact same model, presumably I would not pay for any of these "extra" install charges. I don't have the option of getting a competitive bid for the "extras", and they won't allow me to get the furnace that they owe me and have someone I choose install it. So it seems like a big racket. I am waiting to hear back from AHS since I am not going to accept a furnace that was less efficiency than I currently have. It would cost me too much just to have the flue put in to accommodate the exhaust requirements. At this point, I am willing to sue in small claims court or do arbitration, but they are not going to scam me this way.

Chuck’s Appliance Services came out to work on my refrigerator, washer and dryer. My refrigerator was freezing everything in the back of it. My dryer was not drying and my washing machine was making all kinds of crazy noises, not spinning the water out and leaking. AHS's website is good, especially the part where I picked my washer and dryer. They have a recommendation and you can change it. And if you want to, you can upgrade and pay the difference. There was a whole lot of choices and I quickly picked out the ones that I liked and thought it was easy.

I like the guy who came out. He seemed really nice and friendly. He got right to work, took care of the issue and took off. My new washer and dryer are fabulous, but I’m still in the testing process with my refrigerator. It’s still freezing a few things in the back and in my vegetable drawer, but we’re adjusting the temperature buttons to find the right place. The tech even gave us some tips on how to store the food in the fridge to make sure that there was plenty of airflow. I’ve been with them for quite a while and I’ve only had a little difficulty one time. Things changed in the middle of the repair and the issue was more of a major situation than we thought, which had to do with not having water for days. It was inconvenient for me. But I absolutely love AHS.

With our recent claim, the furnace needed to be cleaned. It was also clogged and as a result, it wasn’t filtering. The guy who came out cleaned it. He explained the nature of the problem, and how we could improve the quality of the airflow in the future. He gave some ideas and made some suggestions too. Overall, we were very happy with his attitude, knowledge, and cooperation.

I like American Home Shield, also, I don't, because if I have to pay $100 for someone to show up and fix something minor, then that is very not satisfactory. I have been looking for some other solutions to see how best I can find something that does not require or minimizing the technician fees on-site. It doesn't make sense. 90% of the time, they don’t change the system. They just fix it. Let's say for the entire microwave, which is hypothetically five years old, if they fix, you pay $100 for the visit but the entire microwave can be changed with $300. I have talked to many people. They complain about the same issue and many of them don’t want to have insurance. They just say that they'll just replace the whole unit and it’s good for five years, then why should they pay $2,500 for insurance. So there are pros and cons. Overall, that initial fee is really not very good at all.

One more thing that I really think AHS needs to do is that they should make sure they qualify technicians before sending them to the houses for repair. Majority of the time, these guys come and fix something very quickly then three months later, the same issue comes up again. You have to pay $100 for the same unit again for the technician that either misdiagnosed or used their very good quality parts. These technicians represent AHS although they don’t work with AHS directly. If the repair is good only for one or two months, that shows that AHS is not doing due diligence to find a good and reliable company to say that this company fixed this. It broke. Now, they're liable to fix it again. AHS needs to enforce the company to come and fix it properly and I don't see that.

I have a refrigerator in the garage. It broke last year three times for the same issue. Then every time the guy comes, I pay $100. I may as well just trash the whole refrigerator and buy a new one for $500. The quality of service in terms of knowledge, and the component they use, and diagnosis are very important because they represent AHS. If it still continues, people will go with another insurance company. This is something AHS may want to keep in mind.

C & J Services called me back and made an appointment between 7:00 and 11:00 AM. The guy woke me up at 6:00 with a phone call to tell me, “I’m on my way.” And then, he came out and he said he fixed the leak. A couple hours later, I went out and looked, and it was dripping water again. In order to get them to come back, I had to put in a claim back into American Home Shield. They wouldn’t come out without American Home Shield saying okay. He came out the second time and fixed the leak, and a little while later, I went out and looked and it was still dripping. I had to end up fixing it myself.

Overall American Home Shield is okay, but they're not the best. There are a lot of things they don’t wanna fix. I had a disposal go out, and one of the arms inside broke loose so it was making a racket. The guy came out and said they would repair the noise. He said, “But it’s gotta be leaking, so I’m putting it down as leaking.” He replaced it, but according to them, they wouldn’t have replaced it. Once the renewal is over, I’m gonna cancel them. They need to repair stuff that goes out. It doesn’t matter whether it’s making a loud noise or it’s leaking. If it broke, they need to repair it, period. They make excuses not to fix stuff.

Also, when I first started with American Home Shield, it was 48 something a month and now, it's gone up to 54. But Anthony from Optimum did a good job and we really like him. He came in, looked to see what the problem was, and he had the part to fix it with. So, he did everything that day.

I'm satisfied with American Home Shield's customer service representatives. Also, the contractors are usually out pretty quickly. When I put in a claim last week for my leaking hot water tank, the contractor came out and determined that we gotta remove the water tank. I had to enlarge the doorway so we can get it out. They’re supposed to come back out this week and I’m hoping that they come out on Thursday or Friday. A couple of months ago, when my garage door stopped opening and closing, the contractor came out, did some troubleshooting, found that a part was needed and replaced it. He was done quickly and now, it has been working fine.

My last claim was for the furnace and I submitted it online. I've also submitted claims over the phone in the past, and both ways of submission seemed to be working well. Myers Comfort Specialist reached out to me on the day I put in the claim and we scheduled an appointment from there based on my allotted time. When they came out, they had to do an estimation, and then it required to completely replace the furnace. They had to order the furnace and it was done within that week. They got the furnace replaced for me and they were very prompt. It was at a critical time of the year, ‘cause it was getting very cold, so they did a good job. It was a good experience.

I had two plumbers come to my house in Georgia who were sent by AHS. They sent me Mr. Clean Drain Plumbing and they cancelled on me. I didn't like their attitude. They were supposed to fix two toilets that were leaking, an issue with my faucet and a shower that was clogged. They were late, didn't fix the problem completely and left everything dirty. They were really bad. When they left, the leaking of my toilet continued and while the shower was fine, my faucet wasn't 100% perfect. On the other hand, RG Plumbing was sent to service my claim for an issue with my main water line that was leaking inside the house. This claim went perfectly. They were on time and they sent me a text so I was able to track how far away they were.

Our heat wasn’t coming on and when we filed a claim with AHS, they sent out A-US Air Conditioning of Texas. They came right away and fixed the problem, and we haven’t had any issues since. We have AHS for two and a half years now and we’ve had a few things break. Each time, they have come out and got us fixed and back in order. One time, we had a claim for our refrigerator and the guy who came out didn’t fix it right the first time. But he came back out at no charge and fixed it again. Other than that, when I had to call in to submit my other claims, I sat on the line for half an hour and that was a terrible process. But this time, I did it online and it was much faster.

Tony’s Electrical & Plumbing did their job. They came and checked the problem, and then they told me what they were gonna have to do. There was a leak in the kitchen sink and in the sink in one of the restrooms. They got it all fixed up, and they were very professional. They got here on time. They told me they were gonna get here, and he called to make sure that we were gonna be at home. Everything worked out good. We were happy with it. If I never need AHS again, I sure would like to keep those same plumbers. I’ve had experiences with other plumbers like Rice Plumbing here in Beeville, and they did not do anything but make a mess. We’ve had Home Shield before and I’ve never had problems. And my son, when he had his house, he had Home Shield also but I put it in my name. Everything’s perfect, and I recommend them. After I got my Home Shield, I had gotten a couple of my friends to get American Home Shield too.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the tech from Keyliam & Sons called me. We agreed on the time and day, and he came to the house. I really like his professionalism. I showed him where the problem was in the bathroom. He said that it happens and that it's common, and then he went ahead and fixed it. It took him 30 minutes at most. He also made recommendation for the future. I like American Home Shield's process so far. In fact, I'm considering seeing how much I can extend my home warranty, and they suggest that it was possible.

American Home Shield seems to be going well so far. Aladdin's Plumbing came out recently to check on a water leak and a refrigerator waterline leak. They were excellent and wonderful people. They came out within five days and they were very professional and articulate. They explained everything. We thought it was a more severe problem, but they said it wasn't. They could've taken us a little bit, but they didn't. They minimized the risk and told us exactly what we needed, and it wasn't as grave as we thought. There have been no issues afterwards.

I called in a claim to AHS and the reps whom I worked with were very nice. They sent Southwinds Electric to do my fire alarms, smoke alarms and electrical. The tech who came got things fixed in about two hours. However, he couldn't fix one of the smoke alarms because we didn't have a tall enough ladder. I have a very high ceiling and the battery of that smoke alarm needs to be changed. Still, the electrical work he did has been great.

I’ve been with American Home Shield off and on, mostly on since early 2000. I had a home where they replaced my whole AC unit, but it was $35 for a visit then versus $65 now. Recently the tech that came discovered that a little fan motor has to turn before the gas would ignite, so he had to order that part and put it in. He was very professional and courteous, cleaned up after himself and did a good job.

My claim with AHS went well. I had a plumber come out and they said the issue was with the city having a collapsed pipe underneath. I called my city and they said that the would not do anything until a plumber comes with a camera to prove that it's their issue. I filed a claim to AHS and their tech from DFW Pluming and drains came with a camera and confirmed that the issue is with the city. The city saw the notes from the plumber and fixed my issue. With AHS, whenever I have a problem, somebody is out within 48 hours fixing my issue. This warranty has helped us save money.

The water heater was going out, but it wasn’t completely out. So I had to call AHS on a Thursday, and the contractor came on a Monday. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and explained what he needed to do. I was surprised they didn’t replace the whole thing, just the inside of it. The water heater’s probably 10 years old. But so far the heater is still working.

My washing machine claim with American Home Shield was wonderful. Long Lane Home Services came out. They were very professional and they came and did the job to my satisfaction. And it was overall, in a timely manner. With the heater people before them in November, I was really disappointed. I had to keep calling them. And then it took three weeks. I could’ve had a child in here. They didn’t reach out to me. So, I was very disappointed in that service with the heater. But everything about the washer people is excellent. They bought the right piece that I needed. It was great because being gun-shy from the first set of people, I was like, “Oh, here we go again.” But then the contractor called and he said, “We got the thing. We’ll see you on this day.” With the overall people as far as the home warranty, they’ve been great.

I had problems with my master shower. It wasn't working and American Home Shield sent two contractors. The first plumber that came out misdiagnosed the problem and he ordered a bunch of parts. He was getting ready to tear the whole thing off and replace everything. Luckily, he didn't do that. American Home Shield sent another contractor out just for the second opinion within a day or two. The guy came in and within 15 seconds, I had water again. Apparently, something was just worn off. But the contractors were both nice. My sister has used American Home Shield too. She recommended them to me and I would recommend them as well.

American Plumbing Service was right on time, very expeditious, sufficient and speedy. They did everything that was required, and so it all worked out fine. We still have to address the plumbing issue with our basement, though. They would really have to knock the floor out and run some new piping. Every time we use the garbage disposal up here, our bin does not let anything go down at all. Before, if I let it go down, I would have to get down in that basement and scrub up at least once a month. That smells like a sewer from the food and stuff overflowing through the floor. We had plumbers out here in the past concerning it.
