I had an oven issue. The element was not heating properly. It was very easy submitting the claim to American Home Shield, and they sent Affordable Appliance Repair out for it. I've had AHS for a little over a year. I have had great experience with their contractors. They’ve been prompt and professional. They keep me informed if there is something that has to be ordered. So, when it comes in, I get the phone call. I also get texts.
I’ve had the home insurance about 20 years ago when I lived in Arizona. And so, this is my first time coming back again. Because I’m in the military, I travel. But this is a home that I purchased recently, and I’ve enjoyed the experience clearly because I came back. I have been telling a few family members about the service. I let them know that everyone has been helpful and all my questions get answered with satisfaction. I also let them know how easy it is to get in contact with their service online or through the phone. Also, I have been able to text the service with any questions as well.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for seven years and when they first started, it was a great concept. The coverage was great but because it is a warranty company, a lot of larger, more well-known name companies don’t honor their warranty. So, I have had an experience or two with a company that wasn't the best quality to make repairs. American Home Shield themselves are fairly easy to deal with and I’ve not had any trouble out of them. The caliber of some of the companies they use has been a little bit questionable but AHS was more than willing to work with me when I was not happy with the company that they sent.

My refrigerator freezer started freezing up and leaking. I submitted a claim by the website and then I got an email and a text about the contractors. The tech from A Affordable Appliance Repair not only fixed the problem, but he showed me how to maintain it so it doesn't happen again. We’ve been using American Home Shield for four years and we’ve never had a bad experience. They are very fair. They don’t always cover everything. Like with the air conditioning, I had to pay for bringing it up to code, but that was fair. I’m looking for a company that will live up to the contract and they have every single time.

We had American Home Shield over at the house that we recently sold and we had a few challenges. But that was a major effort as it was putting a new furnace on the roof of a garage and taking it out. It didn’t seem like the people they had do it really quite understood how to implement something in the strange ductwork that we had. So, it was probably as much our problem as theirs. We had to insist that they put a filter in the ductwork, which they were not going to do, and the old one had. Other than that, it worked great once it was in.
The gentleman who did the installation took the old one out and hooked up a new one initially. I worked with him until 2 o’clock in the morning, and it was darn cold that day. But he stuck with it and we got it done. And then the final work with finetuning the ductwork and that type of stuff took a few days. It was on December the 15th when it first went out, and they ordered the furnace, but they got the wrong model. So, that delayed it a little bit too, until they got the right model. Now, here at the condo, we got D & D Appliance and they fixed my washer. The tech had the part and he was up and gone before I even knew it. He was very quick, efficient, and personable.

I like that AHS doesn't have a big bill. I also like being covered. If there are any issues, they take care of it. When I had a heating problem, they sent Total Air Care out. My air conditioner kept freezing up when the heat was on. It was something that I called about before. There was a sensor that they should have put in during the other two times that we told them to come out, but they never did. They came to fix that problem, however, I won't know if it’s all good until the temperature hits 32. But so far, so good.

American Home Shield is an amazing thing. Two and a half years ago, their advertisement came through on my tablet. I thought to myself that I really needed to do that. At that point, I was 72 and I lived in an older house. So, I hooked up with them and got them going. Then, my furnace died. I had had trouble with that furnace for the last two years so I didn't ask American Home Shield to cover that repair. I wouldn't be dishonest so I repaired that myself but any time I've asked for help since then, AHS have been right on top of it and they hooked with A-1, who has been out here. I've had several things that have gone wrong.
This time, I was so freaked out. I was here all alone and the water was pouring all over the laundry room and I didn't want the carpet in the hallway, the guest room and my family room to get all flooded. AHS gave the okay post-haste. I just love them. I'm 74 years old and things like this throw me for a loop. The guys came in and did a fabulous job. There was next to no damage to my carpet or anything in the downstairs. They turned the water off immediately so the damage didn't continue to go into my house. Then, they listened in through the walls and heard the leaks and figured out where they were and crawled under the house and the crawl space. They found the leak under the shower. Within a few hours, they had it all fixed. They were wonderful and I get teary to think about it because I was so scared.

The most recent technician that came over was quick and efficient. Overall, American Home Shield has been pretty good. They are fast and they follow-up. They are on it. But they can lower the price a little bit.

I called in with two issues, and both issues were resolved very quickly. My HVAC was making a whining sound that never ever stopped, 24 hours a day. In the dead of night when I was trying to sleep, it would wake me up. It was more shrill than loud. I also called about a plumbing issue, and the rep told me that I would be charged two fees. It was reasonable to me since they would require two different trades to come out here.
The actual repairman who came out was fine. It was quick. When he got out of his truck, he walked around to the side of the house where half of the HVAC is located. Then he came in, knew immediately what the problem was and fixed it. When the HVAC turns off, it’s absolutely silent in my house, which is fabulous. With the plumbing issue, the tech couldn’t fix it the first time so the plumbing people contacted American Home Shield to say he needed to come back and do something else, and they authorized it. So, I’ve been very pleased.

Original Review: Feb. 3, 2020
When I had a plumbing issue, I called American Home Shield and told them what the problem was. They set up the plumber to come out and it was a horrible experience. When we bought the house at the end of December, we had a full inspection for the entire house. It’s a big house, almost 3,900 square feet, and they didn't catch everything. So, in the master bathroom, once we were moving some stuff in, my wife noticed there was a spot that was about the size of a pencil in the ceiling along the edge of the wall. When I went and poked my finger, it went all the way through. You could tell that they just painted over it as much as possible and you couldn’t really detect it. I opened it up a little bit more. When I looked, I could tell that there was a leak in the pipe. It was one of the drainage pipes for the upstairs.
Because the house is 12 years old, and it looked like it was a drop coming down every 4 or 5 hours when you use the water, it wasn’t something that you could noticeably tell. We lined up a service call, and the guy came out. Immediately, he enlarged the hole a little bit bigger. I had already checked out where the leak was, and I kinda had an idea what it was. After he did the hole, he looked at it, and in the distance, he said, “I need to go call the home warranty. I think we’ve got a problem.” I thought he was just gonna go call and kinda tell them what the issue was and come back and tell me that he was gonna do it. But by the time he came in, the warranty company already called me and said they were not gonna be able to cover it because the technician said that it’s one of two things, either Drano was poured down the pipe and the Drano caused that pipe to crack, or the house shifted.
I told them I’m not a plumber, but I got up and touched that pipe. There was only one way that that crack happened on that pipe, and it probably happened when the house was built. The shavings from the sawblade were still on the pipe. So, either the people that were installing it didn’t notice that the pipe had been cut and they went and put it together anyway. Then over time, because it was simply a sawblade cut and they shoved it in far enough, unless the upstairs was running water through it, you weren’t gonna see any drops. So, they sealed up the wall and off it went. Over the years, a drop at a time every so often caused that hole. I told them that Drano didn’t do that because if Drano was eating up PVC pipes, Drano would have such a large lawsuit because there’d be other houses that have this kind of issue.
Second of all, if they're telling me that it’s because the house shifted, what a coincidence that it would be one pipe. There are no issues in the walls and anywhere else. And thirdly, the pipes have shavings from where a sawblade did it. I asked if the plumber examined that pipe close enough. Instead of going up there and touching the pipe, he got on the ladder, was still about a foot or two away simply shining a light on it, got off the ladder, and said it was done by one of the two things that he stated. I asked how much it was gonna cost me to fix this and without blinking an eye, he said $1,300. I told him I’ll have this taken care of another way. I told him, "I’m gonna tell you one last time, that was not caused by what you said.” He said I was not the professional and left.
It cost me $15 worth of parts and an hour's worth of labor to fix that. Yet, the company refused to do it. All it took, if you know anything about plumbing, was two elbows and two splices to cut out the piece that was bad and put those back together. He wanted to tear down my entire wall. He said it was in the wall. That’s how closely he didn’t even look.
We do apologize this was your experience and thank you for sharing it with us. We would be delighted to speak with you in this matter. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you in this matter.

Whenever I have a claim, I call in and AHS assign somebody. There are times when, unfortunately, it appears that it takes a little longer. A couple of months ago, they had to go with Carrier for our air conditioning and it was up to them to be able to get the new motor part to the people that fixed it. Fortunately for us, we didn't need the air that time. There were also times when we needed a little bit more heat than that, but that's the way it goes. Still, they did fix it.
In my recent claim, we had two things almost the same time and Whirlpool was sent out. We had a motor on our air conditioning unit that was replaced and then we had a refrigerator that the gentleman that came for the first time evidently replaced the part but it didn't stop it. The gentleman that came the second time discovered the problem and our refrigerator is working fine now. So, we've been very satisfied with AHS. I've been with them for quite a few years and they have taken care of our needs.

AHS is typically like any insurance company. They're great when you pay premiums. And then, when you need to service they are not quite as great.I had a plumbing stoppage, and it’s plugged again. I called AHS to have the contractor come back and American Home Shield won’t permit that. So I’m kind of caught between a rock and a hard place with this.

Our washing machine was gathering water and since that was the first time I was claiming an issue for repair under the policy, I called in. There wasn’t a long wait between making a claim and having the appointment scheduled. So it was quick and easy. The contractor came out very quickly the first time. It was within the week and that is all subject to scheduling as when I have time as well. The important thing was that I was in touch with Hot Shot Appliance Service quickly. Then it was just a matter of finding the time in the calendar. That wasn’t even very long because it was a washing machine and we needed it. So we had to make time. But then the part wasn’t available so there was a bit of a wait for the part but that had nothing to do with responsiveness. When the part came in, they were back and they fixed it within hours. It was all quite efficient.
American Home Shield is contracting the service out to other people so you’re subject to how good those service providers are but this crew was good. The claim went well. Maybe there was also a sense the urgency because it is a washing machine and what do we do if we can’t wash our clothes? So they all moved quite quickly.
The scheduling was also good. When you have these long windows of anywhere from 9:00 to 12:00 or 1:00 to 5:00, it’s not the easiest to deal with. But they have this app where they send you this message where you can track where the technician is and that's really helpful. You get it when you get the text message saying they may be there in an hour. It is really helpful as opposed to blindly staying at home for hours and not being able to move. With that, I would know I can go do something. I happen to work close to the house so I could leave work and be home in 15 minutes. The window is easy to handle when you have that kind of information. It was good use of my time.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

When we turned on the dryer, it was making kinda rumbly sounds. If we let it go for a couple of minutes and then turned it off and opened it up, we could smell a little bit of burnt rubber. I went online to American Home Shield’s website and I started everything from there. The website was really easy to figure out what to do. It was great. After submitting the claim, I got the confirmation later on that day. That was when they told me the day they were gonna arrive and the time frame. The two gentlemen that came out were excellent. They knocked out the problem right away. They were only here for 20 minutes. It turned out I had some debris stuck in the roller mechanism. It was a little button that was keeping everything from working. The dryer is like new after the repair. I’ve been with AHS for about five years now. I don’t usually have to use the services, but each and every time that I had, I’ve had no problems at all. Everything is as advertised.

We had a leak in the toilet tank. It sounded like it was always running. The guy from Plumbers, Inc. was here on time, very polite, and professional. He changed stuff in the inside of the toilet and said that if we ever had any problems, we'd give him a call and then he left. AHS handled everything perfectly this time. Most of the people that go around and do the work are pretty good, but if they assign me to someone that is just an idiot or shouldn’t even be working there, I will call and tell them to take that name off the list because I will not accept them in my house. Some of the contractors are less than qualified and I’m not sure why they even hire those people. But I suppose they hire who they can get.
There’s one guy that works on big appliances, like my washer and my dryer and he does a good job. I had no problem with him. But we had one guy come in for the ice-maker that was not working. He opened the door, looked at it, closed it, and said that he'd order one. That was all he did. I could’ve done that myself. Then we waited three weeks before we got it. The company called back, then he came, didn’t say a word, put it in, and left.
AHS should also answer their phone when calling them. I’ve tried calling them to request for a service on something, and it will ring and ring, and I finally end up quitting. If I will go to the website, it’s an okay website, but if they ask what is wrong or if I have more than one thing, I’ll just start all over. If I put down refrigerator and then the issue on the list that they have has nothing to do with my issue, there’s no place to put that issue in. So the contractors come and they don’t know what they’re coming for. I wish AHS would clean that up a little bit.

American Home Shield is convenient to have. They make repairs on appliances a little bit easier to handle when they go out. It eases off my mind not having to find somebody that is reputable and able to do the work. And financially, it helps out a little bit. Years pass that we don’t use it, but when we need it, it takes a little bit of that cost load off of us. Also, Cal Valley Appliance was quick to get in and get the work done and they very nice and professional. Once they came out, they diagnosed the problem and they knew what parts to get. And once the parts came in, they called and scheduled a time to come out and do it. It was very efficient, and that’s the best way to do it.

I had an electrical issue with my socket and it was making my freezer, my refrigerator, and my stove have electrical issues. And they had stopped working. The contractor fixed the issue the day he came out. However, submitting my claim with AHS was not easy. It felt as if they weren’t listening. I explained to them that my mom had just passed and that I was trying to get things handled because I wanted to make sure I didn't have the issues when we had the service. They said that they understood, but no one told me that they couldn’t get someone out on that same day. If they told me, then I would have asked if there was anybody else.
Once I found out, I asked what they were expecting me to do with the food in my freezer and refrigerator. They said that they were sorry and that they couldn't get anybody out here. It was really ridiculous. It’s frustrating if you’re trying to get something taken care of and you don’t have all the information in front of you at the time. If they don't tell you, "We don’t know if we can get someone out there today, but we will try our best,” then you’re gonna be thinking that they'd do it as soon as possible. I called American Home Shield when I had a pool pump that went out. I got someone out here as quickly as they could. The contractor wanted to check in and make sure what it was first before they did anything. The tech did not bring a pump with him so they had to order a pump. They ordered the pump, and then it was raining on the day that he put it in, so there was a lot of water back there. I noticed the next day when it had stopped raining that the connector pipe from the pump to the actual flow of the water was leaking a little bit. I immediately called American Home Shield and they sent somebody back out there to fix it and they didn't charge me second fee. It was great. The pump is running wonderfully.
My mother had the warranty on her home, and she divvied the home to me and my husband. We checked the policy up and because we had a pool, we went ahead and got a policy for ourselves. It's economical and that full pump paid for itself. I've been very pleased with them. My husband recently passed away, and I've had to have a couple of things taken care of. American Home Shield did the yearly check on my heating system and gave me some really good advice about what to do with my filters and how often I should be cleaning them.

They did a good job and when they left it was all fixed. For most things, AHS has been pretty good. However, if I have something critical like this past summer when we had an air conditioner go out, it takes them much longer than it should to get the problem resolved. It took close to two weeks. We were lucky that it was not a really hot stretch and we were able to stay in our home. Still, if it had been a hot stretched, it would have been impossible for us. That was an issue that could have been fixed in 24 to 48 hours. We may have to go outside the system if they can’t fix it faster.

American Home Shield's claims process was very easy. I went online and filled out the form letting them know that I needed repairs done. I paid the deductible and Joe's Expert Touch Appliances called me and scheduled the appointment. The techs that came out were great. I had two appliances I needed to be looked at and they were quick to figure out what was going on with the oven, and ordered the part that was needed for it. For the washing machine, they cleaned out a pump and checked it all out, and tried to figure out what the problem was there. It was about a week later when they came back with the part for the oven and fixed it. That was our first experience with them. It's all good now.

When we had a problem with the oven, the contractor fixed it. He was on time and did a great job. My wife is happy, so I’m happy. With the electronic computer that the oven has, the cost of maintaining and fixing it is outlandish. And I’m sure there’s also one in the refrigerator. We've been with AHS for about 10 years. They are almost essential now because of those costs involved.

I had a leak in my house and I thought it was coming from a vent. I submitted a claim online because I don't always get a chance to make calls all the time and their website was convenient. A tech from ATR General Services came out the next day, looked at the AC unit and determined that it couldn't have been coming from the AC unit. It was from a pipe. And I got the right people out here from American Home Shield. I got a plumber to fix the leak and another contractor to come out and dry out the hardwood floor and the carpet in the basement area.

The hose or an HO warning light was coming on on my washer and the dryer was not drying. So, I went on the website and it was easier to use than the phone for submitting my claim. I'm able to very quickly submit as it gave me multiple choice options of what's happening and I was able to find the options very easily in the drop-down menu for that. Then, it said that I would be contacted by someone within a certain amount of hours. The more impressive thing was I was called before I got up on my computer. I was on the phone with the guy and it surprised me because that never happens that quickly. I was like, "Oh, I almost didn't take the call." At first I thought, "Well, who would be calling me from that area code?" But I just took it and it turned out to be the repair person. That was amazing.
I talked to the repair person from PG Appliance Service and we went over some questions to prepare for what might be happening. He did a little bit of diagnostic work even then or gathered a little bit more history. They were outstanding to work with and the communication skills were great. It helped me figure out what I needed to do to get ready for the visit so it could be more efficient. It worked out really well and everything's been working fine since then. American Home Shield is a great service and everybody should probably have it if they're a homeowner. It gives you peace of mind.

He called when he was coming back and came back on time and fixed it and left. It couldn’t have been better. That’s the best claim yet. In general, the service was good, but it took a little more time than I expected. I understand the contractor needs all of the parts and they pick it up, and then take a time. It’s a little complicated. The technician ordered the parts and sometimes the stores didn’t have the parts, so they need to order them. For example, I had a problem with my refrigerator, and the technician came in but it took a long time for them to get the parts because it was between weekend and holidays. But the refrigerator has been working really good since they fixed it, and I'm happy. They replaced my stove because they couldn't find the part, and I’m so happy with that also. When the contractors come in and they have the parts, they fix it up really fast and they do a really, really good job. Overall, I'm really happy with American Home Shield.

We've been keeping American Home Shield since we bought the house and it's now 25 years. It takes a little bit of time sometimes to get somebody out, but it’s understandable. It's what we usually end up with when we turn on the air conditioner or heater and we start having problems. The contractors are usually booked up but they do well. We had plumbers come out a couple of times, and they weren’t too hot. But everybody else was real good. The last guys we got from Jim Conrad Electric were wonderful. They called and said, “We’re running a little late.” And then the owner also called and said they were running late. We had a plumbing issue where Visalia Plumbing was sent by American Home Shield. My drains are running now. The contractor was very polite and did his job. I have a hard time with service people in my house because of a past problem, but he was very nice, and I was comfortable. The only thing is American Home Shield should not be such sticklers on the words used when trying to file a claim. I live by myself and with this drain, it needed to be cleaned out. That was what I called it. If the water is sitting in the sink, it needs to be cleaned. They said, "Oh, we don't do that." I've had the runaround for weeks. I don't know which words I'm supposed to use, but I have standing water, and it's not draining. To me, it needs to be cleaned out.
My daughter came down and she was disgusted because I was washing dishes in pans and throwing the water out on the lawn. My house stunk because of the plumbing. And they weren't gonna do the issue because it wasn't covered, and I haven't been able to find anybody. And she ended up calling and finally used the correct words because she has a home warranty herself. And so, I got scheduled. But it was a mess!

The water heater wasn’t giving hot water quick enough and it would have to run and run to get it. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the claims rep took my information and notified the technician, who called and set up the time. They did their job. They called me the same day, and they came out and explained how the process worked. He came in and tested it, and he said it takes a certain amount of time for it to run downstairs versus running a little bit longer upstairs. They checked for leaks and functionality of the water heater. It has a huge amount of rust on the bottom, and I was afraid for it. It’s enclosed in the garage and it’s 16 years old but it wasn’t leaking at the time, so he said to watch it for leaks, and I can call again if I needed some help with it.
AHS has been good so far and the only drawback I had was on the air conditioning filter. In this two-story home, they have the cover for the filters in the ceiling and you have get up on something to change the filter every month. I’ve been here 16 years and the only thing I do is get on something and open up the cover and change the filter and close it. AHS decided on that claim that it wasn’t normal wear and tear and denied the claim on it. I was not pleased at all. They said it was something that I did to cause it and I don’t understand how I misused it. I’m 73 years, I’m not gonna get up there and play with the cover.

The guy who came was cool, nice, professional and knowledgeable. He talked us through the different steps, why he thought it was the problem and why he would fix it. AHS is like an extra layer on top of home insurance. I'd tell others to improvise a bit more coverage outside of their home insurance, more so for any of the big units in the house and that for a monthly payment, it’s just a $100 fee to get started.
Their website is super simple and easy. When I had a leak coming from behind the toilet and in the basement, I was told to expect the contractor in 24 business hours. But the rep didn't know what the contractor's business day was like. I knew I would be contacted soon, but I didn't know if it would be in two days or in three days. The typical eight-hour shift rate was there, but if the contractor was working two shifts, then I should hear from them within the next day. Someone who could define what the business hours were would've been super helpful.

I've had American Home Shield in at least five houses. The contractors that they've been sending out have been fantastic lately. I had an issue with my hot water heater and the one they sent drained it, fixed the issue, and got my hot water heater back working again. They were awesome and wonderful. We have had some in the past that we had significant issues with. When I was out of town, I had one guy who was trying to charge my wife $1,500 to replace a simple $30 valve. That was not a good experience then around seven years ago.
Also, when we had an issue with our double oven, the guy that was sent wasn't capable of working on it so we had to reschedule with another group of guys that could handle it. Then nobody brought the part. American Home Shield doesn't let them bring the part with them in anticipation of replacing the unit on the spot. It's like they have to diagnose it and then they have to come back unless it's a simple fix. Then for the tech, if something's giving them an error message and they could identify that, then they should be able to bring the part with them. But all of our experiences since then have been very good.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Chad. We are happy to know that you are overall satisfied with AHS.

They were here a little ahead of schedule and their guy was one of the best contractors I've had. He was very professional and he was engaging. He would talk to you. He gave me his assessment on what was gonna happen and what to expect. And when the part came, the same guy came out and installed it.
I’ve also had a few items replaced through American Home Shield instead of being repaired, but I had to come out of pocket a little bit to get to the level of product that I really wanted or felt like I needed. When it comes to replacement, they kinda go a little on the cheap end. They replaced one of my AC units and I went with what they recommended, but I feel like it’s a lower-end product. I ended up paying around $1,600 out of pocket because of things that weren’t covered. I also came out of pocket probably $1,000 to replace my stove. But overall, my experience with American Home Shield was pretty good.

I love American Home Shield. I've tried to get every one of my kids and people that I know to get American Home Shield because it's such a great company to help you whenever you have an issue. Recently, Air Squad Heating & Air Conditioning came out to fix our garbage disposal. And the pipes that were connected to it, there was a clog that was pretty bad. And then the knob on the garbage disposal fell inside of the garbage disposal. So when I turned it on, it sounded like we had a bucket of bolts inside there. Then the water started backing up and the pipe, it came off of that little knob that was supposed to be there, so the water was gushing everywhere.
I talked to American Home Shield and I explained to them what I thought was the problem. They agreed with me and I said, "Please don't send somebody out here and have a look at it and then go, "I think I know what you need to do," and then have to reschedule another visit. I said we've got a 3/4 horsepower garbage disposal and that's what it's gonna take to get replaced. And she said, they'd make sure that they make a note of that. And when the contractor came, he came with a 3/4 horsepower garbage disposal but it's not a KitchenAid. And it is so stinking loud which our KitchenAid wasn't. It's also not a name brand. I asked the guy that did the work about it and he said, "I guess it's what we use so I'm assuming that it's a good brand." But so far, it's working well.
The gentleman that came was really a smart guy. He was very thorough. He did an excellent job 'cause he went over it several times to make sure it didn't leak. And when it did start to leak, he said, "We're gonna redo this because I wanna make sure it's well-seated," and he did. He's very personable and a friendly guy. I was pleasantly surprised.

The washer started making a really loud squeaky noise like it was rubbing metal on metal. We had a gentleman from Cal Valley Appliance come out and check it. He said that he needed to change the suspension. He then left, came back, and changed them out. He ran the machine and he said that it was working fine, so he left. Now, not even an hour after he left us, I went ahead and started doing laundry. I put a load in there and it started making the noise again.
The gentleman showed me these long tubes and it had a suspension thing on the bottom. And because he just changed them, it might be something that they would just have to grease up and start working. I did three loads and the noise just kept going on and on. I had to do another load today and it was still doing it. I even recorded a video because the gentleman had mentioned that my drain hose was fairly long. So, when they called me back to let them know to come out, the rep asked if we changed the drain hose. I asked her what would that do with the noise that the machine was making. So then she said that they would have the technician come back out.
My husband was here when the technicians came back out and checked it. They told him that it was an issue with the transmission. They said they were gonna contact AHS and then I would have an appointment scheduled with them tomorrow morning between 8:00 and 12:00. They were also sending the senior person from Cal Valley Appliance.
The technician from Cal Valley Appliance was very professional. He called me and said he was 40 minutes and 20 minutes out. Then he showed up around the time he said he was gonna be here. We've had AHS coverage with this house for a little over a year. I can just make one phone call and they send somebody for me. They also claimed that they didn’t see anything around the pump as the problem and that American Home Shield doesn’t cover underground. They said that I should call American Leak Detection, have them come out and find the underground leak, then have them repair it.
So, I did that and it cost me $325 to have them come out. When they came out, they did a full pressure test, then they gave me their whole package of checking pipes. They said everything looked perfect but there were two leaks above ground and one was pretty severe. They also said that the leaks were adjacent and connecting to the pump, and that the problem was misdiagnosed by Provolt. So, I called American Home Shield and they did a second opinion. Pure Pool came out and immediately discovered that there were two leaks. The tech said that one was a relatively massive leak, and that both were above ground and connecting to the pump. They immediately fixed it and everything has been working fine since. So, I have nothing but good things to say about Pure.
Afterwards, I reached back to American Home Shield and told them what happened. They called Provolt and Provolt confirmed that they told me that I had to call this American Leak Detection Company and have it checked. It turned out that I did not need to do that because the leaks were above-ground in the first place. So, I asked them to refund the $325 that I had to spend out-of-pocket to have American Leak Detection come out as I was told by Provolt. I was told it is in process right now, but I haven’t heard back from them as far as if it’s been fixed or not or if I’m getting my check sent out for the 325. That seems to be taking a while.
Aside from that, my recent experience with the pool is not the first time I’ve had to have a second opinion because the contractors that they use are not the best contractors out there. It’s like a coin toss, sometimes you’ll get somebody that is good, and sometimes you’ll get somebody that’s terrible. You never know what you’re gonna get. I have a number of contractors that I have in my records with them that I have told them to absolutely not send out.
I had another situation where I simply had a clog in my kitchen sink and when they sent somebody out, those people told me that there was all this grease and this and that. They said I needed to drill a hole through the wall of my house and put a trap outside of it and do something, which was gonna cost thousands of dollars to do. They told me this was the only way we could fix the issue. So, I hired my own plumber and paid out of my pocket outside of American Home Shield. The guy, before he even got to my house, saw that we had these pipes that are on the roof of our house that are clean out pipes. He took a look at it then got a pressure hose and put them into those pipes. It immediately cleaned out the clog and cost about $65. This happened about a year or so ago and the pipes worked fine ever since.
Once again, AHS sent somebody out that was trying to gouge me for thousands of dollars. Then a real plumber came out and fixed it in 20 minutes for $65. This is the type of thing that’s happened to me four times in the last four years where I had to constantly have a second opinion come out. In some instances, I had to pay out of my own pocket to get it done right, which really is not the purpose of having a company like American Home Shield. They’re supposed to prevent having to pay out of your own pocket. You just have pay your monthly premium then they charge $75 for each repair.
Other than that, AHS occasionally sends out people that do a good job the first time and the warranty has come in handy. I had a water heater that had to be completely replaced and the cost of the actual water heater as well as most of the installation was covered. That would’ve cost a fair amount of money, though I still had to come up with an additional $1,000 in that case because there are codes in California and our previous water heater wasn’t up to that code. So in replacing it, I had to pay an additional $1,000 to the repair person to bring it up to code.
I also had the pool heater that broke down and was replaced. The new pool heater and its installation were completely covered, and it only cost me $75. So, in that instance, it was great. The company that did it was called SPEAR and because I remembered what a great job they did, they were the ones I requested for my recent claim where AHS eventually sent out Pure Pool.
All in all, AHS is not a terrible company. But I was gonna call them because I was wondering why there is a bigger than usual increase in my monthly bill. I started paying in the low 60s two years ago, then the next year we paid 65. This year, it went up to about 75 a month, so it went up $10 and there was no explanation why it went up so much. Also, I have to fight with them all the time for my claims, which is a shame. But after having to go through the whole process of fighting with them, I end up getting what I should be getting 90% of the time.
The only time I didn’t was when I had an air conditioner repair. I even went to the California State Board of Insurance to fight the fact that they weren’t gonna fix the air conditioner and even they told me that that particular issue was not typically covered by insurance. In that case, AHS was in the right and I had to replace my air conditioner system out of my own pocket.

I put in for quote in July 26, 2019 with American Shield. I spoke with someone and received quote. We agreed they would call on July 27, 2019 and set up plan if I was able to cancel my other home warranty. I cancelled my other home warranty on July 27, 2019 and American Shield called we set up plan. I set up a auto pay. They sent contract. All was well. It is now January 31, 2020. I call today and find out I don’t have coverage with them.. Meaning I have been living without a home warranty for several months and didn’t even know. My income isn’t where I have to watch my auto pay at all times. So I wasn’t aware that it wasn’t set up with them properly. I’m grateful that nothing was actually broke. I was calling with a basic question and learned this information.

"We won't change your contractor." "There are more than one customer at AHS." All communication from Philippine call center is about what they can't do instead of what they can do. Would never recommend or renew this poorly ran non-customer oriented company.

We’ve had American Home Shield since 2004 and it’s working just great. Using their website to submit claims though, I couldn’t specify what it's for. Our most recent claim was for a kitchen light that was out but I was only able to indicate that it was an electrical problem and no more detail than that. But normally, it worked fine in terms of utility. Rite Brite Electric worked on that claim and did a good job. They were very professional. The repair made the fixture work perfectly and it’s exactly what we needed.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. We look forward to assisting you. Have an amazing weekend.

We had a ceiling fan light fixture that stopped working, and the contractor came out and identified the problem, coordinated with American Home Shield on our behalf, and then came back for a second visit to install a new ceiling fan for us. I do my claims online and the system is pretty straightforward. We can do it with our address, and we don’t even have to know our contract number. We can click what’s wrong and they’ll set up a contractor, and the contractor then calls us to schedule an appointment. It’s pretty easy. The contractors have done good work. But I'm worried that if our air conditioner was to break, we’d get a cheaper model or less efficient model than I might like. So it would be nice if there was a feature to pay for an upgrade so we could upgrade from whatever their base level is to a more high-end unit.

It was my first time using Home Shield and I was satisfied with it. Filing claims online is pretty easy. 495 Garage Door did the hinge between the garage opener. Also, the garage door was broken so they had to repair it. They put two new screws in. The guy was here for less than 15 minutes. He knew exactly what was broken, looked at it, fixed it, and that was it. He fixed it very quickly. He pointed out something else that I could fix as an upcharge. I called my friend who is an engineer. He said, "No, don't do that." And we talked about it, but you can't control that. It was just him trying to sell me something else outside of this coverage. But other than that, it was a good experience. It was very smooth and efficient.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was a super good experience. Everything was done quickly and satisfactorily. The ice machine in my freezer was not working and my dryer was making a really loud squeaking noise. To submit the claim, I found the form on the website, filled out a couple of boxes, filled in the serial numbers, and sent it in. The website was easy to use. There were several options for what was wrong with the appliances, but none of the listed options fit in for my issues so I just listed "other". And that didn't seem to be a problem. The website said I’d get a call within 24 hours and I did. The contractor reached out and we scheduled the time. He showed up right on time and was wonderful. The initial part he put in the ice maker was faulty, but he came right back out and put a new one in. Other than that, everything has been great. The dryer is totally quiet and now I’ve got ice.

I was satisfied with the technician that came out to fix my split unit. But I’m not satisfied with the way Home Shield handle their business. It took me a year to get the unit fixed. They kept sending out guys that didn’t know what they were doing. The first contractor that they sent out was fly-by-night. I found out he was doing this on the side. He was a part-time preacher. The tech that fixed it came from the fourth contractor that came out here. So now, if I ever have any problem with it, they are the only one I want to come out. I already made that clear to Home Shield.
Home Shield also gave me a lot of runaround for a whole year. When I kept calling them back, they kept putting me as a new call in. I kept trying to explain to them that the unit haven’t been fixed so why were they charging me the same thing? They did that four times on me. I wasn’t very pleased with that kinda situation. Also, they need to screen all their contractors a little better. They got a lot of contractors on their board, but all of them don’t work on split units. So they need to differentiate between the split unit and a central air unit. But for everything else that I called them on, Home Shield warranty was fine.

I was supposed to have two claims with American Home Shield, for the toilet and the faucet, but when the plumber got here, he wasn't aware that my kitchen faucet was also on the same order. He did a great job replacing the toilet, though. He then told me that because I had a Kohler faucet in my kitchen, I should just order the piece, which would be free of charge from Kohler, and they will come back and install it. So I did that and I got everything that Kohler sent out last week.
Now, I am still waiting for them to call me to set up an appointment for somebody to come back out, and it's kinda aggravating. But American Home Shield did good. They reached back out to the plumber themselves. I called them yesterday and they told me to give them another day and they would call the plumber back. But nobody else contacted me to set up an appointment. It would be great if American Home Shield can just set it up and schedule the appointment then send it to me instead of me calling. Other than that, we're very satisfied with them. This is all very new, only since December, and I've had to call about three times for different things in the house.

The first time we had a claim, an air conditioner company came out here, and that did not go well at all. The tech wasn’t honest. He came in and said we needed three to four pounds of Freon, and he didn’t check anything. He didn’t even try to see where the leak was. We paid him $100, and he put the Freon in with coloring stuff in it so they could find the leak the next time they came. I called the company and I tried to tell them what the man had done, but they didn’t seem interested.
AHS then sent out True Temp. The tech wanted to know what was wrong and we told him. He said he knew exactly what was wrong and then he went to the back and looked at the air conditioning first. And then he said he had to go in the attic since that's where the unit is. He came back and he said he found the leak. We could hear his little machine going, “Beep-beep-beep-beep” where the leak was. He told us he had to order the part and call AHS. He called them and then they called us and they said it can’t be repaired. It has to be replaced. So we had to pay for the Freon and they paid for the part. They came the next week and replaced it.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for ten years. I also have it on my daughter’s house and on my mother-in-law’s house. Trying to get a hold of a live person is almost impossible. You can spend hours on the phone, where most people will say, “Leave your name and number and we’ll return your call within a certain timeframe.” You have to stay on the phone for hours ‘til you get a hold of somebody. It's the worst service I’ve ever seen in my life, but the people I’ve talked to and the people who answered the phone are very competent. They’re very efficient and very good on follow-through.
Also, my experience with their provider who did the service on my heater was superb. I went online for my claim and the contractor called me within 24 hours to set the appointment, which was fine. The first time he came out, he said it looked like the gas had been not on, that the gas pallet was out. He instructed me to call him back if it happened again. I called American Home Shield back because that wasn’t the issue. He came back out and did some other repairs with the valve. I had American Home Shield out in Texas for four years and then I had them when I lived in Atlanta for 15 years. When I got here, I had another warranty company and then I changed after the year was up and put it on American Home Shield. The way they were structured in Texas was better, but all of them have changed since then. American Home Shield in some places is better than others and it's all about the contractors that are available that work with them.
When I had the electrical problems here, they sent out the same contractor for three different times. They never fixed the problem, and I got tired of dealing with American Home Shield and paying the thing over again. So I called Mister Sparky, and they fixed it and it never had another problem. It did cost me about $400 but they fixed it. Whereas the other people, every time they came out here, they just put a new fuse thing on it, and it blew out almost within two weeks after I used it.
These contractors were just trying to get their money as cheap as they could and fix the immediate problem, but not worry about the risks. An electrician that doesn't worry about the risks is not worth his money. I told my problem to the agent that I talked to that day, and I even put a note on the website when I logged in. I told them I wasn't gonna use them. I wanted to let them know I was really tired from trying to get back those people. I was a little mad about it. So on electrical issues, American Home Shield uses some contractors that are not good. I do not use American Home Shield on any electrical problems because I don't trust their electricians that they have.
With plumbing issues, I have no problem with the companies that American Home Shield send out. When the toilet was continually flushing, the entire internal parts of the toilet had to be replaced. The tech replaced that, but then he kept looking at it and he found a leak underneath the toilet. He was really good. He took the toilet off the base, took it off the floor, and replaced the seals. That was not a problem I had noticed. So they did a really good job. I've got six bathrooms, and every bathroom in this house had similar issues to this one, and the plumbing companies sent out fixed each one of them as they have broken. They've done a really good job. They also did a good job with the bathroom on the third floor. They had to go on the roof and fix the thing.

Our home isn’t new, but it’s less than 20 years old. And in that period of time, things go out and break. Even when you buy brand new, you never know. I had a complete home inspection done on this house and not everything that you run into is something that an inspector would notice. We’ve had two calls and neither one of those would’ve been caught on a home inspection.
When the dryer started making a horrible noise, I turned it off and logged a call with AHS. They responded quickly. The contractor knew exactly what the issue was. A dryer is fairly simplistic. I know how they’re put together and I had a couple of thoughts. He goes, “Yup, it’s one of two things.” He opened it up and it was one of those two things. It turns out there was an idler arm in there with a little pulley, and the bearing went out on it. He replaced it and everything was fine after that. They replaced our washer and our microwave after several years. I can really feel that they’re short-staffed in those offices now because if there’s an issue, it’s easier online considering I cannot get a live person on the phone. If I were to have an issue today, if I need to have a plumber come back out, I would not be able to get a live representative on the phone for a 40-minute hold. So, it’s much easier just to do it online now. Recently, we submitted a claim online for a leak and the guy that came was fantastic.
Thank you for sharing your experience, and we will take into consideration of your past issue. We are pleased to know that you are able to access the online option and use it to your liking. We do appreciate the feedback.

I had a heating issue and American Home Shield sent Priority Comfort out. When they got here the first time, it was working again. But the other night, it was not working. So, they checked and opened it so the air would go through. They said the filter was very dirty and that was the problem. But on the second time, which was about four days ago, because it wasn’t working, Mike came again and he did a very good job. He went all over the house, opened out the fan, and fixed something in the bedroom that wasn’t working. It’s all fine now.
The only thing is I didn’t have the heat for the whole weekend because the next available time was Monday. That was a big problem especially in the city like Philadelphia where the winter is so cold and I have three kids at home. Unfortunately, I know how weekends are complicated, but when we have this kind of problem, we need somebody to come as soon as possible. Other than that, I've been with AHS for about three years, and the service has been fine.

Every time I talk to someone from American Home Shield, they're very kind. They always greet you. They're very patient and professional at the same time. I've had them for almost five years and I like them. They work with you regardless of whatever problem you're having in your home. Also, if you are not satisfied with a particular company or whatever the case may be, they work with you to try to resolve the problem that you may be having with them. They always give you an option of another contractor or whatever the case may be and do what's necessary to be done to appease the customer.
I like the company and the contractor that came out to service the furnace. He put a new hose and clamp on it. After he did it, he said I might see some more water that might come. He told me that if the issue reoccurred, just give them a call. I saw that some water was still leaking that Saturday, Sunday and Monday. So I called him and he said that he'd schedule an appointment to come. I didn't see any leak yesterday or today and I did tell him that, but he said that I'd still keep the appointment for next week and asked me to keep monitoring it.
Wow! That is great to hear. We are pleased to know that you are a customer with longevity. Thank you for being a long term customer. We do apologize for the HVAC issue, however pleased to know that it is handled. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

The technician AHS sent out diagnosed the problem in the washing machine. He had to order a part to get it functioning. He facilitated us being able to use the washing machine while that part was ordered. We plugged in one of those surge protectors, and then plugged the washing machine into that. And then every time we needed to use a washing machine while he was gone, we were able to turn off and on that surge protector and get the washing machine to work. That took about two weeks. He told me it would take a while. So I was extremely happy with what he did. AHS respond within a day or so and we're always happy with them.

I filed a claim online using AHS website which was okay and I was given an estimation, probably within three hours. J&J Mechanical, who have been here before, came out and had it up as soon as they could so I was okay with it. I have no complains with American Home Shield through about a couple other occasions. I even recommended them to some friends.

Astro Appliance came and fixed my dryer. They were perfect. On Tuesday, I put a call in for my kitchen sink, garbage disposal, and two toilets. Everything was stopping up. American Home Shield gave me all the information to set up everything with a contractor. I called the contractor and they got me in yesterday. The guy got here 30 minutes before. He unclogged the sink and the toilet. I asked him about the garbage disposal and he said he didn't have a work order for that.
I specifically asked the representative that I spoke with at American Home Shield if my garbage disposal was covered under plumbing. I have a problem with my dishwasher, but it may be because of the garbage disposal that isn’t working. So, I called them back yesterday after the technician left. I told them I put in a service call for these items. They said, "Ma’am, we only see that the work order just states for the two restrooms and for the kitchen sink.” I said, "I know what I specifically said because I asked specific questions related to this issue. Is there any way you can pull the call? If they come out here again, I am not going to be charged that $100. I think that’s ridiculous that I would have to assume that cost.” They said it takes 24 to 48 hours before they can get the tape.
I asked to speak with management and that took forever because the manager was on another call. I said, “Ma’am, I understand how a call center works. I know exactly how things are run. Your manager has more rights than you. I need to speak with someone that I can talk to on a personal level. I am the customer.” I also said, "I've been in the real estate business for 22 years. You all used to go for referral business. I have a lot of hands in real estate. You don’t think anybody’s gonna ask me? I'm gonna tell them not to deal with you because this is ridiculous."
But they went ahead and told me there was nothing that could be done at this time, that I would have to wait on the phone call, but they would go ahead and put the service call in and they would hold off on charging me until they heard the phone call. I told them if I am charged for the contractor coming out for a garbage disposal when I asked for this initially, guarantee come March, I will not be a customer. I won't renew. American Home Shield should have accountability. I'm fine with them making mistakes but they should own up to it. That way, people will feel much better. I wouldn’t have such a ugly, ill-will feeling in my mouth now.
Oh No! We do apologize for the miscommunication with the service requests and we would be delighted to speak with you in terms of this service request. My name is Robert and I will be speaking with you further regarding this matter.

I’m happy with American Home Shield but in online filing of claim, although it’s very quick, it’s not in detail. Like I want this problem to be solved, so that’s why I need to call but I have to wait for some certain time when AHS is totally free. Otherwise, it’s totally rushed. Or maybe they can add that answering machine service that takes a number and that AHS calls up when our number comes, so there is more detail in the paper. I had a problem where I was not figuring out what was leaking, so I said toilet leaking. But when the guy came, he said that I had to put the sealant inside. But again, it was leaking the other day. Then I made another complain. Again, toilet leaking. But he found that there was a tub pipe that was leaking. That was why the water was dripping from the ceiling. The contractor was good.

I've been with American Home Shield for five years now. I also have a policy with OneGuard for another property I own, but then American Home Shield ended up buying OneGuard, so it didn't make sense to switch. I had a claim with Loyalty Home Services for plumbing and the scheduling was convenient. The technician was honest and did not try to upsell me. It was a positive experience. In the past, I’ve had some nightmarish experiences with American Home Shield plumbers where they have tried to upsell us into stuff that we didn't needed.
When submitting claims, I haven't had to interact with them in the last couple of years. Before that, it was a very unpleasant experience because they were very hard to get hold of. Also, when I had an issue about plumbing for the shower, they said the shower valve would need to be replaced, but they would not pay for any of the drywall work. But in the last couple of years, I’ve not had to request any assistance from their customer service.

And then when the contractor was working on the repair the stovetop broke, and they had to order a new one. It was three days after that when it came in and he put it in. It has been quite a while since I've been with American Home Shield and so far, I've been getting excellent service from them for a good price. We have had a couple of things happen and within 24 hours, their contractors have been out here fixing the problem. And Kelly Bros were here within 18 hours. They called me about an hour after I turned in the request. They wanted to come out at noon the next day, but we had company coming in, so they said, "Okay. We'll jump it up. We can do it 10 o'clock." And they did. They were absolutely timely and very professional. And Ray, the technician they sent out here, was super nice. He explained everything that he was doing and told us exactly what needed to be done. He even told us we were using the wrong light bulb in the fixture and told us what to get. As a result of getting the right light bulb, we saved money and it gave us a better lighting. That experience was fantastic.
The plan I got covers everything. I didn't even know they covered electrical until my daughter said that I got the plan to cover that. So it's even better. We've had three or four times over the years that they came out. One time, our washing machine went out and their contractor came out the next day. He said, "This thing is old. It can't be repaired. They'll call you." And a couple of days later, AHS called me and said, "Pick up this washing machine and send it over." I would tell anybody to give American Home Shield a call.

I've had American Home Shield for a long time now and things have changed. They’ve improved. The ones that they are calling now to do work is quite a difference. We’ve had some real bad experience in the past and we dropped them for a while. We had even looked into another company from the past. At present, we normally don’t have anything that happen but we had a couple things this time and the ones they sent were very good. We were satisfied with the help. A lot of things also have improved in the claim submission process. We live in a rural area and it’s difficult to get help, and we had a nightmare one summer. Our air conditioner went out and I had just had breast surgery. We couldn’t use the one we wanted to. The one that came was slow and lots of things then. But this time, we’ve had something and everything’s been really good.
We got Sears for an appliance issue and they were excellent. We had to wait for the part to come in, but we have a laundromat and we only had to go one time. The tech did the best he could to get the ordered part as fast as he could. If American Home Shield keeps up the way they’re going, then it’s good. We’ve even recommended them to somebody.

Updated on 02/24/2020: American Home Shield failed to provide competent service for our plumbing stoppage. Service call was canceled. Nearly a month later our account, despite multiple promises it would be fixed, still shows we owe $100 for the canceled call. Also we were sent a threatening invoice for our alleged "past due" account that indicated our AHS membership services could be suspended and that we might be referred to "collection".
This whole horrid ordeal with American Home Shield began on January 27th of 2020. Here it is the 24th of February, AHS could not resolve our plumbing problem, the service call was cancelled, and despite multiple promises that the billing for that service call would be removed from our account I wake up today and log in and lo and behold our account STILL shows a PAST DUE status. Never have I been lied to by more agents of a company than as has been the case with American Home Shield over the last 27 days.
Original Review: We have been AHS members for over a year. On Monday night, 01/27/2020 at 5:00 PM approximate I contacted AHS for the very first time for service, we had a stopped up toilet in the main bathroom. It is now 4:00 PM on 01/31/2020 and my wife and I are sitting here with overflowing toilets at both ends of the house. With toilet water coming up in our sinks and shower. We had one contractor come out on Wednesday but he didn't have the equipment to handle our stoppage. So he said he would contact AHS so they could dispatch some other company. We heard nothing from AHS until this morning when I spoke to a customer service member at 5:45 AM to let them know the dire shape we were in. I was assured at that time there would be "expedited" and "top priority" assigned to our service issue.
At 2:00 PM today I called and was told another contractor had been called but they also did not have the right equipment so no further action was taken, they just dropped our case. At 2:39 PM today I finished speaking with another service rep after another one had hung up on me earlier instead of putting me on hold. He promised that our service was important and that Dispatch would be calling me back within 30 minutes to let me know when a contractor was coming. It is now over an hour since I was promised a call within 30 minutes. For the life of me I can't understand what is the problem? So as it stands we can't sit. Why should I continue to send AHS payments every month if this is how they are going to treat me as a customer?

My association with American Home Shield started in February 1988 and up until 2006, I had been pretty well satisfied with their performance. But on 21 Oct 2006, the wiring on our upstairs AC unit burn up. AHS assigned a local contractor to replace it. They finally replaced it on 26 Oct, taking approximately 2 months to do so. They also wanted $605 in extras but Blake ** with AHS disallowed the charges. Blake was assigned to the project near the end and handled the contractor like AHS should.
On 03 Oct 2011, our water heater started leaking and AHS assigned a local contractor to replace it. He wanted 2 days and $405 in extra extras to replace it. I asked AHS to assign another contractor but they refused, so I called a handyman who installed it for $150 and I paid $41 for a permit. Part of the $405 was a $135 for a permit, a pretty good markup.
On 23 July 2019, our water heater started leaking and AHS assigned a local contractor to replace it. A field serviceman arrived at our home about 5 pm that same day to inspect the water heater. The next morning, the contractor called and said because the water heater was still under warranty, they could not install a new one. I assumed that if they could not install it, then no other contractor could either, so I called a handyman and had him install it that same day. It cost me $448 to replace the old water heater, which included the handyman and the difference between the old and the new water heater.
I then sent my expenses to AHS and and asked for a cash back. They disallowed my request saying I did not receive authorization before installing the water heater myself. I feel that this was a technicality used to refuse paying me my expenses. I am sure it would have cost them much more than that if a contractor had installed the water heater. So, from the above, you can see that AHS is making crooks out of their contractors by letting them charge extras that are not warranted. This is why I am not going to renew my contract next month and advise anyone looking for a home warranty company to not consider AHS.

I have been on the phone for two weeks about my fridge and have not gotten the same answer from a single rep or manager. By far the worse experience I’ve had with any company. I have been told 100 different things 3 times. I was told I’m getting a new fridge. Once I was actually transferred to the department to start the process and transferred twice because they couldn’t do anything except say, "Sorry, you were misinformed," they were unhelpful and told me something else yet again.
Another time I was told that all that was left was to set the appointment to deliver the new fridge and that I would get a call from Sears. When I didn’t I called Sears and they told me that they don’t deal with this, AHS does. Not one representative can understand the notes on the account because of how many different things I’ve been told and how many times I have been told the wrong thing. I signed up for this service in hopes that when a issue like this came along it would be easier to handle and less stressful because we are paying for someone else to handle the situation, instead, the amount of stress this has added is unbelievable and absolutely unacceptable. If I find a number to speak to corporate or the manager that handles my area, I will definitely be reaching out. This was just a HORRIBLE experience!

In July 2019, we filed a claim for the touchpad of our stove. Honolulu Appliance Repair Pro inspected our unit and discovered a bad circuit board. Two parts had to be ordered from the mainland, as we live in Hawaii. When the technician returned with one of the parts and installed it, she advised me she noticed damage caused by insects, which had never been mentioned prior to this second visit. I told her any pest invasion was caused by recent plumbing work during a bathroom renovation and did not cause this issue as the touchpad issues predated any renovation. Nonetheless, our claim, after initially being approved, was subsequently denied. My defenses to the insurance claims department were ignored.
Our second claim began in early December 2019. The ice maker of our Kenmore refrigerator broke. Water leaked throughout the interior of the freezer and froze. Ice was no longer being made. When I filed this claim, the same repair company, Honolulu Appliance Repair Pro, was sent out by AHS to repair the ice maker. I was directed to perform a 48 hour defrost prior to the technician’s arrival, which I did. The technician arrived on December 12 and told me that the 48 hour defrost would cure our issues. Two weeks later, I called them back to request another visit as the ice maker was not magically repaired! The same technician returned on January 3rd and noted we needed a defrost thermometer, defrost heater and defrost circuit board. Two of these parts were installed ten days later.
The technician did not provide me with a work order invoice for this visit. The repair was not yet accomplished. Three visits by this company and the ice maker issues were still not addressed. I called AHS to complain and was told they would get it taken care of. My fourth appointment was January 27 between 9:00 and 1:00. At 3:00 pm I called Honolulu Appliance Repair to ask when the technician would arrive. It was then that I was told no one was coming and the customer service representative was going to call AHS to have another company service our ice maker.
On the 28th, I received a call from another repair company and an appointment was set for January 30. The repair service arrived timely, with all ice maker parts he may have needed, and called AHS for permission to make the necessary repairs. After he received fee approval as it was going to cost over $600, he repaired our ice maker successfully. If AHS was less concerned about repair costs and more focused on satisfaction of customers, my ice maker would have been repaired in early December and I would not have had to replace my stove. THINK TWICE BEFORE PURCHASING A WARRANTY FROM AHS.

I couldn’t get the pilot light to restart after I tried it three times and I noticed the thing said not to try more than three times. So, I called American Home Shield and I went through automated prompts. I called late in the evening and the automated message said that Matt’s was notified and would be calling me the next day. They called me late afternoon the next day and then, they scheduled the appointment. They made me aware who was coming out and when he was coming. They gave me a window of 1 to 5, and I couldn’t guarantee being home from work until 4:00. So, they said that they would pump me down to the bottom of the list. I tried to get them there until after 4:00 when I could be there and they were very accommodating for that.
The guy came out and it turned out I just missed the valve. The valve was slightly closed. Someone must have bumped it and the guy just turned it. He fixed it and he waited around for a few minutes. Then, he left. The hot water heater has been working fine and just like normal since then. My one experience with AHS has been easy and simple. Everything was clear-cut on what to do.

They came out the first time and fixed it. That experience was awesome. But I’ve had other issues with a dishwasher that continuously broke. They finally sent out second opinion, but it didn't work and they replaced the unit. So, they honor why we have a home warranty and they've been very good
The contractors who have been out here over the years have been very good. Pipe Down was impeccable. I couldn't be happier. Also, one of the problems that we have is our AC unit is very hi-tech. I got a friend who had some AC guys. They came to look at it, but no one will touch it. He said, “I’ve only seen two of those. One was in a showroom. One is here.” It's too complex for most people. And AHS was able to find the one company that could fix it. Because it’s so hi-tech, one thing happens and then the whole system shuts down and they have to decode whatever is not working. That company was really good. Overall, I’m very happy with American Home Shield. I’m still waiting though on my check for my dishwasher replacement that they approved.
Are you still needing assistance?

I've been with American Home Shield for ten years and the contractors have mostly been good. I had one of their contractors for the fridge who was just a little hostile. The fridge had a foreign thing and there was like a drip around the water dispenser in the fridge. But it could have been condensation. It was summertime. When the contractor came out, I thought he was gonna replace the gasket but all he did was adjust things. That’s great if it works. But then, I saw some condensation. By the time he got there though, of course it had dried up. I don’t think he handled it very well.
On the other hand, the guy from Sirius Plumbing and Air was nice and very easy to talk to. They had to come back once to tighten something up but it was fine. They probably fixed it the first time. American Home Shield tends to be pretty easy to get a hold of as well. You call and they have somebody. They tend to have a pretty good response time. It’s gotten better over the years.
Good morning Keith,

In my family in general, we've always had some sort of home warranty. So, when we got this house and it was time to get one, we knew we needed to get it because it's super important. We got American Home Shield and we're coming up on our third year now. Their claims process is very simple. The claim I filed to them about the washer went fine. The technician from Kasey's Appliance Service got it fixed. He was really professional and courteous. We have a 60-day warranty which is good. The only issue was we had to wait for the part. Other than that, everything was fine. They communicated that the part needed to be ordered. And once it got here, they made the appointment to get it in to the machine within 24 hours.

My kitchen sink stopped draining. And the guy from NW Sundance Services that came out did a good job. It took a while but he got it cleared out. The lady at American Home Shield that I talked to that did the claim was nice and helpful. Things went really smooth. In fact, I got a call back from the people that were gonna come out that same night. A few years ago, it took us a couple of days and I had to keep calling back in. I referred a couple people to AHS, and both of them got the same coverage I have now.

After doing research, I decided to go with American Home Shield because one of the deacons at the church said that he was also with American Home Shield and he had a very good experience. When the light was not coming on in two of the rooms in our house. We had a gentleman come out to take a look at our electrical box. As a result of that, he changed all of the wiring in the box. My husband reminded me that we had electrical coverage in which I have forgotten all about it after the guy came out and we paid for everything. He asked to call them up and see if they could come and find out what was going on.
The gentleman that put the electrical box in to update all of the electricity told us to call ComEd, which is our electricity service provider. They came out, checked everything with all the lines and said that the issue was coming from inside of the house. So they put a new line in from our house to the electrical pole out there, and they said that after they did this, then whatever was happening was happening within the wires in our house. After the third try, we called American Home Shield because the issue still did not go away after we put a new box in and after ComEd came out.
I put the request in for the contractor to come out and check the wiring. The person I spoke to on the phone suggested Alsip, the electrical company that we used, because I had an issue when I had a claim with the refrigerator. When our refrigerator was going out last year, the person that came out did a horrible service job. The experience was terrible, and I was gonna cancel American Home Shield. So when I spoke to them about the electrical claim, I asked them if they could go down a list names so that I could get a chance to look at it or at least google the service providers that they were suggesting, so I could see if they have a very good rating. They assured me that Alsip Electrical had a very good rating, and they were one of their top customers. So we went with them.
When the tech came out, he was excellent. He was very professional. He kept his promise when he said he was gonna come out. There was no back and forth. So I was very pleased with him. Everything is working okay. He took time to really diagnose the issue. He found out that there was a wire that had a short. When he took down the light fixture where the area was, he said he could smell burning, and when he cut the wire, he showed us what was actually happening.
With the fridge that we had an issue with last year, we had a hard time finding a comparable fridge and model. I waited until it went on sale and then I did a purchase. The check was supposed to have come before the New Year, and we’ve been going back and forth, and they said, “Don’t call before this time on the recording because you need to give it enough time for it to be processed.” After calling several times and then my husband called, they told us, “Oh, the check is lost. Why didn’t you call us before now?” One of the things that they advertise is, “Don’t let costly home repairs interrupt your budget.” $1,500 has been floating around somewhere out there. So I don't appreciate having to go back and forth with them. At this point, the service end is better than that end.
We also had an issue with our dishwasher, and the contractor came out and found out that they couldn't get the repair for the dishwasher. After that, they wanna order the dishwasher in a different color. I said, “Well, you guys want me to have my fridge in one color, my dishwasher in another color.” They’re going back and forth, and back and forth. So I told them that I was gonna go ahead and just purchase it and work out the other details later. This process has to have a much better system than this. I’ve been more than patient with this whole process. But I’m not very satisfied right now.

We were having problems with our cooktop. The burner took a long time to light, if it did at all. And the electric ignition on it would click even though it was on. AHS sent someone and he determined that the problem was that the cap that covers the burner was the wrong size. AHS has been fine. It's just that sometimes it takes longer than the 24 hours for someone to call. Also we just bought a new home and there were some things in the plumbing system that they didn’t cover that we thought they should.

Last year, we had new garage doors put in, which we had to pay for, but their contractor, AAA Action Garage Door, did a fabulous job. Myers Comfort Specialists came out to service a request to look over our furnace. It wasn’t blowing out hot air and they replaced a part that was blown. The contractors were very knowledgeable and respectful coming into our home. American Home Shield is always quick to respond with any issues that I’ve put in. If anyone has issues with a certain appliance or electrical issues, they’re one thing to use to help subside a huge cost. There are some things that they won’t cover like maintenance work but stuff like if the water heater, washing machine, or refrigerator breaks down, they would send someone out, have them look at it, and hopefully, either they would fix it or replace it. But they need to make it easier for somebody to cancel their policy than having to do a workaround and having to explicitly mail them a letter to leave the service. That’s the only negative I have of them.

I go online to file claims with Home Shield. Sometimes, I would phone if it seems like the categories there are not exactly what the problem is. In most cases, they’re adequate on the website. They usually have a catch-all one as well. Then, they would send me a confirmation and I would get a call from the contractor and we would work out an appointment. It has all worked smooth, whichever contractor Home Shield have used. I’ve been pretty well-satisfied.
The one that we’ve had the most experience with, the most problems, was involving Green Master's on plumbing. And they’ve been out here multiple times on various issues that have cropped up in this house. We’re hopeful that it’s coming to a close. We've also had Cabot Mechanical out here once. They had to repair the condenser on the air conditioner. They’ve done a good job. Last time, the contractor actually went the extra mile. We have a Carrier control and they took the time to learn it and go through it. They went through the whole thing and really improved the operations. They dug a little deeper and they found the problem.

AHS is wonderful for older people. They have always had our back and you stay with who you know has your back. We've been with them for about four years and no matter what broke in my house, they were there. To submit a claim, you just pick up the phone and tell AHS that you have a problem. Then they'd say, “Okay.” You then pay your $75 and they'll fix your issue. When Sears came out, their tech fixed my issue. Then he came back to make sure that it was fixed because it was a suds problem that all new machines apparently have and very few people know about. I have a brand-new machine that’s why I didn’t understand. He showed and told me what to do. Sears was awesome.

My father-in-law who is also an American Home Shield customer referred the company to us. We've been with them for years. We ended up doing it for our first house that we bought in 2013. And then now, we did it on our second house. On our most recent claim, they sent Alto Sewer Service. They cleaned up the drain in the bathtub that was clogged up. It works perfectly now. The contractor was very professional and personable. He came in, did the job, and he was also very respectful. Everything went fine except they didn’t put the plug back on, but then they came back out and did that.
I’m surprised nobody called me for the last incident that we had though. The contractor disappeared and stopped answering my phone calls. And I had to have a second contractor come out to give me a quote because this other guy kept telling me he was gonna get to it and it didn’t happen. There was a leak in our bathtub, and so we needed to get it fixed because it was leaking through the ceiling. That was not fun because he never got back to me and then he said he couldn’t find the part, and then the second contractors could find the part.
I was not happy because I had to talk to five different customer support people. They all had to review my account every time that I called and they all said that they would get back to me either that day or the next day, and nobody ever got back to me. Each time I had a different customer service person, they would have to make notes of their own and start the whole process over for whatever the mandatory procedures are for these types of issues. They would have to reach out and then they’d have to make notes and then they’d have to give whatever amount of time for that person to come back. Finally, the very last person I talked to was able to file a claim against this contractor and schedule me a new one. It took longer than it needed to and then everybody wasn’t familiar with my stuff. So, I was very frustrated. I almost dropped AHS base on this, but we just stayed with it.

So far, AHS has been very good. The contractor who came out for the furnace was very, very nice and he knew immediately when I described what was going on at 5:30 in the morning. He hit the pipes and asked what it sounded like. When I told him, he told me to pick which sound it was. He knew exactly what it was. But he couldn't do anything. He couldn't fix it because it wasn't anything wrong with the furnace. It was the air in the duct. So I had to contact the management company in my building and they sent a company out to drain the line the other day.

I've called in the heat that wasn’t working and the rep was good. The contractor seemed professional and fixed the problem pretty quickly. For a month and half that I've been with American Home Shield, we had a few other claims. There was no trouble with these other claims but there was one that they didn’t really solve the problem. We would have had to pay a lot more money for them to solve it. It was the garage door opener, and the contractor wanted to sell us a whole new garage door opener and said that he could do a quick fix, but it wasn’t really gonna solve the problem, which was true. But a new garage door opener was not gonna be part of what was covered. So, we wound up using another contractor to do that less expensively.
It seems excessive to have to pay the $75 every time you need somebody to come out when you're already paying a lot of money to have the service, to begin with. You have to see the home warranty as an insurance policy. We would have been better off just paying for things as we go because, in the long run, it’ll probably cost more money to pay them for it, unless you're the type of person that can’t put away the money to have it just in case you need it.
Fradelle,
Thanks for sharing your experience. We hope that you will find as service more useful on your future requests. Take Care.

I told him where to look to get the number from and then, I gave him the telephone number. He put the claim in and he spoke highly of the young man who came to fix the problem. The contractor had to do whatever he had to do to correct that. I signed up last August and this is the first time that I’ve experienced using AHS. It was exciting because it sounded like they knew what they were talking about and they had the know how to get the product over to the customer. We just moved to our new home two months ago but I had AHS before at other houses. The only issue I've ever had with them is that they may not have enough providers and sometimes, it takes a little longer for them to dispatch someone. When I lived in Austin and we had air conditioning problems, they would tell me that it would take three days ‘cause everybody was booked up. That’s not gonna work.
I’ve had two plumbing issues and submitting the claims has been really easy. I did both claims online and got a text almost immediately saying that it was dispatched. The last one was with WesTech. The kitchen sink blocked up and it was draining out the dishwasher onto the floor. It was a little bit of an issue because it was late on a Friday and the information I gave them led them to believe that it was not an emergency. There was no damage to the house, so they were gonna push me over to Monday. But when I explained that water was leaking on the floor and that there’s potential house damage, they sent someone out the same day.

I have American Home Shield warranty on a rental property and my current new house. We moved into the new house and Lock and Key Partners changed the locks on it. It took them about two weeks from when I initially paid my service fee and then for them to come out to do the rekey, which was the only thing I wasn’t too thrilled about. It wasn’t American Home Shield, it was Lock and Key who was just so busy. They said that’s how far booked out they are. At that point, I couldn’t look at a change. I needed to get in. That’s all they had for this area for now. But they were good, they were professional, and they got the job done. We even paid them a couple extra dollars to put in a new lock, a keypad, with a security code on it.
American Home Shield as a company has founded the home warranty industry in the 70’s. They’re the largest in America and they’re going through a lot of changes right now. There's a lot of technology-driven and they’re trying to keep up with the real estate market so it’s definitely gonna be good over time. They’re planning things now for the future. So, I like all the coverages they do.

I love American Home Shield. I've had them for over three years on three different properties and I've never had an issue. One time, I had an issue and the contractor wanted to charge all this extra stuff. I told AHS I would get my own guy to fix it. Once I did that, they sent me a check for what they would have paid him. They've been very fair and consistent the entire time I've had them. I've gone to companies that sucked and I came right back.
When I was setting up a service request for my heat pump, they assigned the contractor right away. They gave the phone number to either for me to wait for them to contact me or I could contact them to call, which I did right away. As soon as I called, they asked me what my name was and they already knew. Everything had already been sent to them so it was wonderful.
Metro Air came out to replace my compressor on my heat pump. They also changed all the capacitors and then added Freon. Everything was absolutely perfect. I called them the next day because my unit was making this very interesting noise and they said somebody will come back the next day. Then I got a text update through AHS with the new appointment date and time. The techs came back out and checked it. Everything was fine so we were good.

I'm very satisfied in my experience with the dryer claim. The dryer wasn’t heating anymore and needed to be repaired. I called to file the claim and the representative was good and very helpful. The contractor who came out provided excellent service. He was very friendly and very proficient with the job. From the first inspection, it looked like it would be one thing and that’s what it really was what. But actually how to make the repair was a little bit more complicated and he knew exactly what to do. I watched him all the time. He also made it as fast as possible. And now, the dryer works well.
However, I'm still waiting on another issue that I have. There was a water shower pipe that burst and it leaked in the bedroom which is upstairs into the downstairs kitchen below. American Home Shield sent out a contractor to repair the pipe after I called them. But there was some confusion where I was under the impression they were gonna pay for a roof that was damaged because of the pipe. It turned out that was not gonna be repaired because that’s a secondary damage. But in order to access the pipe that burst, they had to cut a hole in the drywall.
I called and requested several times that they pay me for the drywall repair but they never paid for the drywall repair in the bedroom to fix the big cut that was in the wall to fix the pipe in order to access that pipe. So, that was primary repair that’s supposed to be paid for and they never responded to my claim for a cash out of the cost of the repair. I ended up having another guy come out and fix the drywall and I ended up paying for that. I’m not trying at all to bash them since they’ve been helpful overall, except for that one issue. Other than that, they’ve been great. They fixed the pipe and did what they had to do.

Amtec Services came out to fix my dishwasher where the drain wasn’t working, and my refrigerator was fogging up in the interior and they had to change something on the outside of it, outside of the door. The guy they sent out there was amazing. He came out before for other appliances. He was efficient and always on time. He got the work done and left the place clean.
When filing a claim, I go over the phone. It was pretty good with the representatives. What I didn’t like was I had submitted another claim for electrical work and I asked the representative whether or not it was covered, and they told me, “Yes.” And then the electrician got out there and they told me that outdoor lights were not covered even if they were attached to the house. I had another one with a HVAC person where they told me I needed to have a new condenser when I had another contractor come out and tell me I just needed Freon. And this other contractor put the Freon in and my air conditioner worked the rest of the summer. When it comes to plumbing and electricity, I’m not too satisfied.

Having American Home Shield has been great most of the time and they were great on my call about the garage door. The claims representative did her thing when I called and she told me who they were sending out and that they will be calling me to set up the time. Magic City Door came out on Wednesday last week and they provided excellent service. The garage doors that wasn't going down has already been working since they came out. I've had American Home Shield coverage for 20 years and they're a home warranty that helps you with your appliances and other things as well in your house if anything goes wrong.

A guy came out and it turned out it was the thermostat that had just died. So, he replaced the thermostat with a very generic thermostat. But it works and everything’s been good. The guy was very friendly and he answered all of my questions. He was very quick too. He went upstairs and looked at the furnace that was up in the attic. He came down and said, “I’m pretty sure it’s the thermostat. I’ll be right back.” He got the thermostat, went upstairs and installed it. He checked some things, came down, and he kinda showed me which buttons to push. American Home Shield was very helpful and quick to respond to the claim. They were really nice about it.

The refrigerator, recently after I moved in, went kaput. There was like a code flashing across the thing. So, I submitted a claim, and then a GE gentleman came out and took a look at it. They gave me three options in order to resolve the issue after the part that came in wasn’t the fix for it. So, the option was to replace it. Everything went well. But I’ve been without a refrigerator for like three weeks now, and then unfortunately, the refrigerator that fits my size cabinet is on backorder, so I won’t have one for another month and a half. There’s a lot of wait time, too. But that was because they came, assessed it, and needed to order a part. That was another week. But that was really Home Shield’s subcontractor that came out to look at the refrigerator. I’m pretty happy with Home Shield.

We've had American Home Shield for about 12 years. We got them when we bought our house, and for the most part the people that came out were decent. This gentleman that came out this time was absolutely the best that we’ve ever had. He was prompt, got to the point of what was wrong, got the parts for the heater that day and got it fixed. Most of the time, you have to wait two or three days to get the part. So, I’m very impressed with this gentleman and his company. LA Appliance doesn’t work that way and we’ve had them before. So, at least we’re getting decent contractors.

Do not enter into this contract without caution. Quote from the technician- "AHS will basically never approve to replace a unit, it will get repaired, repaired, repaired." This doesn't sound like a scam until you account for the cost of whatever is not covered on the repairs! My HVAC unit that leaked R-22 was going to have a minor repair to fix. But my bill would be $900 on top of the $125 service fee. I chose to do the cash out option and have an AC company I know replace the unit. The contractor that came out said the work he was going to do would have cost a few hundred bucks plus AHS would cover $10 per 10 pounds of Freon that was needed.
Well after 3 weeks of trying to get AHS to process a "cash out" some guy in the dispatch gets on the line and says he can help. He informs me the contractor said his fix would only have cost $240 vs the $400 that was discussed with me AND that I would have to pay $70 of that because the contractor was charging it for the service fee. So the Service Fee I already paid is getting another $70 added to it. Which is coming out of my cash out.
The whole experience with American Home Shield felt like I was negotiating with a 3rd world fraud caller trying to convince me they have $1M waiting for me if I just wire them some $ upfront. My take away, as an insurance agent and casualty of this company and contract, is smaller repairs don't make any sense to have covered because of the monthly payment for the policy plus the service charge add up to more and the larger ones are going to have some sort of limiting wording in the contract that keeps you paying for part of it. Don't confuse this with an actual insurance policy with actuaries that expect to pay out and make policyholders whole. Also, don't expect to be able to cancel without them trying to get more money out of you as well. I will report back how that process goes as well.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have some issues with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

Saved $2500 out-of-pocket costs. Local repairmen were assigned to my service calls. In both cases repairmen were friendly, professional, and courteous. They arrived on time; diagnosed problem; ordered parts; and installed parts as soon as they arrived. I also asked repairmen how American Home Shield was to work with, and both said easy to work with. 100% happy customer.

Worst customer service. Two unvetted vendors, one flaked out after making an appointment but never showed, second one put in the entirely wrong sized grinder pump system. All of this after AHS refused to pay one penny of a $3,800 plumbing bill! You also have to pay a $75 fee to AHS on top of this?! This is a new and low way for them to put the squeeze on us. Welcome to Corporate America where the CEO gets a $30,000,000 salary and a new boat and the homeowner holding this policy gets JACK. The amount of stress American Home Shield has caused is indescribable. 10 days without working plumbing and them finding a convenient way of not having to pay for the bill is why I’m taking the time out of my day to warn all of you. Do NOT buy this policy. You will cry a lot and drink a lot. They are worthless.

He was able to fix it that day. We've been in the house for 20 years and we've been using American Home Shield for at least 15. I like the peace of mind knowing what the payments are gonna be and that we are covered if something happens. If we ever sell our home, I would probably pay a year's worth for the new person coming in 'cause when we moved in, things were breaking and it was costing thousands of dollars to fix. So then, when I found AHS, we started to go with them and it's been a world of difference, especially with five kids.

The first time he was here, he found that it was the fuse, and then the unit worked for a day. But then, it’s not working again so he came right back out. He found that a wire inside one of the nuts had been bad. He fixed that, but it stopped working in a day. He came back out and he found that somehow the ground wire had gotten disconnected. So, he fixed that, and now, everything has been running beautifully.

They were still heavy coming out of the washing machine and the dryer wasn't drying. I'd have to do it on two or three cycles depending on what I was drying. I called American Home Shield. Their rep was fine, but she just wrote down the washer and didn't write down that the dryer needed help too. So when the A. T. O. M. people came, they just have the washer down. When I said that I had told the AHS rep about the dryer, the guy said that they'd do the dryer too while they were here and that they might call me to verify. That guy was great. I appreciated that.
The washer and dryer are working a little better now. The guy said that we could have them repaired forever as long as there would be parts for them. He tested the dryer and said that the temperature was fine. But I've had to run whatever I'm doing through the dryer for a second time. The guy said that part of the problem was because my machine wasn't getting all the water out of the clothes. He explained to me that things would be spun better in the washing machine if I used a different cycle. And it does help. Overall, American Home Shield is good. Their rep straight out told me that as long as something could be repaired, they would not replace it. Their goal is to repair and not replace. The first people they sent out was awful but this time, the people they've sent out were good. I was happy with them.

The washer and the dryer both just been repaired a couple of times. The dryer, though, this time was not able to be repaired. The last time the tech came out, the washer wasn't spinning out. It was kind of a hit and miss. But this time, he just changed out the timer and it's doing okay. The tech was able to fix the washer this time and then the dryer should be delivered tomorrow.
The tech was very nice but he's not very good with communication. I wouldn't know when he was coming. He just showed up at the house. He has come out to fix anything that broke besides the garbage disposal. He gets it done but it's just very weird and random. He just shows up. There's usually not a call. Initially, there is. He would call and say, "Hey, I got the message about whatever is broken." And he would say, "Is it okay I come out now?" But then if he has to come back for anything, he just shows up. He does really good work. He has fixed everything he said he is going to. There was a time we waited for a long time for our oven to be fixed. But it got replaced and everything’s fine so we wouldn't change anything. It's a pretty low payment and that’s great. We have the assurance that Home Shield, like they said, if it can't be fixed or repaired, then we're not gonna be out a bunch of money to get it replaced or have it fixed.

I like that American Home Shield can get somebody out to look at things within a day or so. The latest time, they weren’t gonna be able to get anybody out here. I work five 12-hour days throughout the week, Monday through Friday, and they had told us they weren’t gonna be able to get anybody out here until like the 27th of January. We had a flood and we really needed these toilets looked at to make sure there were no stoppages before we start having work done. I explained that to them, and they gave me the name of a big-name plumber and they weren’t very friendly and they couldn't get us in.
When I finally called back AHS, I said, “I can’t wait a month.” They were redoing all their assessments but nobody still started on the work here. I assumed it was gonna be started weeks ago. And before it got started, I wanted to make sure there was no stoppage in the lines because I don’t want this thing to happen again. So, then finally, I got a hold of a nice person from AHS, and she said, “No. We can do better than that,” and she brought in Lake Plumbing. The reception has called me about four times after that. Then they called AHS to make sure that the service would be covered, and then they came out. The owner actually came out, and they were really personable and nice. You don’t get that kind of service anymore.
We have two bathrooms upstairs that still have no toilets on them, so I didn't know if they were gonna be able to run a snake down them or how they were gonna do it because the water was off. But they came and poured water down it to make sure there was no stoppage. We’ve since had it snaked by somebody else. But Lake Plumbing was really good. I can’t recommend them enough. They did a good job, and I really appreciated them being able to come, because I had to take a lot of time off for this.
The customer service that I got through Lake Plumbing was up way above and beyond anything that I’ve experienced before. We've had American Home Shield for about four years, off and on. And they're good, but we needed somebody to come out within a week. We had a flood and they had to take down walls. I thought somebody was gonna be able to start putting up walls within a week. It was more of the fact that there are not a lot of people that work on Saturday and Sunday, and those are my only two days off. I’ve had to take off a lot of time for this leak thing already, and so I really needed somebody that can come out on a Saturday and Sunday.

At first when they came out, the heat would come on when it wanted off, go off when it wanted to. It wasn’t correlating with the thermostat. And then after that, they fixed the switch on it on the furnace, but then it did the same thing. So, it was something else that was happening as well. I was comfortable with them coming back out. We were cold for a little bit, but then they came back out over the weekend. They were very professional.

I had a different company when I was in Amarillo and my friend that had American Home Shield there loved it. It was then a referral. My claim with Garlington-Brown went great. They were easy to work with, and they were timely when they called me. AHS was very good, too. I hadn’t even got any paperwork from them when I filed the claim, and there was no problem with it at all.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

We love Scotty. He could come back any time to my house. He's very prompt. He does the work and doesn't mess around, so American Home Shield is saving money on him. He is not wasting their money by taking their time, doing the service by slow movement. I've seen others that do that. We could not flush a lot of our toilet, so it continued just going and going. We're on a well, so hard water kind of does all those things. And Scotty recommended some things that we should not do and we're following up on it, so we don't have to call them back. He took care of things. He made sure that we understand what we need to do, so it doesn't happen again. He said, "I'm not telling you how to take care of your stuff at home, but if you want it to last, you gotta do this step by step."
I like American Home Shield because they're prompt. There are only two things right now that I'm dealing with. The timing or the schedule of people to come and service my house. For example, on my washer, there were three people that came here already, and the latest person came in and he said he has to order a part. But the washer repair is going too long. There were four people already coming and servicing the washer, and it hasn't been fixed. I don't understand why it takes four people. The last time Sears came, they said, "Oh, it's working." It did work for about an hour or so, and he said, "Well, give it time." I waited a couple of more days to see if it worked. It never did. It worked when they were here. We ran it, and then as soon as they were gone, it went back to the same issue that I had.
American Home Shield gotta find a vendor that knows what they're doing, so they don't make four trips back and forth. But Scotty is a very good vendor. I wouldn't mind having him come back for any leaks or whatever needs to be done because I trust him. Overall, American Home Shield is very good. There is one or two glitch, but the glitch could be taken care of and moving forward would be done.
Good Afternoon Elizabeth,
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your HVAC request. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

There was some sort of a leak through something that was some kind of an overflow pipe. It was coming out of the wall. It has never leaked before and it started leaking hot water. So it was coming from the hot water heater. I sent in the claim online and Home Shield's website was easy enough to navigate. But it can be a little constrictive. Like for instance, it says, “You have a water leak, is it causing damage? Yes or no.” I didn’t know. So I put "yes" even though I didn’t know. There was no third option of input what you think or when you are unsure. But overall, Home Shield has a very good system. I’ve had some bumps in the road in the past, but generally, it’s been a very good experience dealing with them. It’s an insurance policy for something you know will go wrong sooner or later. If you’re not a handyman or a do-it-yourselfer type, then it’s a good buy.
After sending in the claim, Home Shield sent me an email saying the contractor would be in touch within 24 hours. But I contacted them first and left a message on their machine because I wasn’t sure if I was getting damage. They were already closed for the day, but they called me back the next morning. The tech seemed very knowledgeable and a very nice guy. I’ve used him before, and it seemed like he knew what he was talking about. He diagnosed the problem and he said there was too much pressure in the line. He was very knowledgeable about what caused it. He said it could be the city working on a line somewhere else. He said there’s all kinds of things that could back up pressure. But after he left, I noticed it did it again. I decided to wait and see, and if it does it again, I’m gonna call the tech back out. But he did everything he was supposed to do. Everything appears to be fine now.

Home Shield was assigned to me at my home in Colorado. And when I moved, the people I purchased my home from got another warranty company. But when that expired, I went back to American Home Shield just because I had such great luck with them in Colorado. They're a lifesaver. It takes a lot of stress out with me having to worry and if something goes wrong with my home, it's always been taken care of.
My home was for sale and the inspection showed that it wasn’t heating up to a good temperature. I filed a claim using the website and it was a piece of cake. It said I would be contacted within 24 hours when I placed my call but the contractor contacted me right away. The tech was really nice and helpful. He took me out and showed me specifically instead of just telling me what was wrong and what needed to be done. He showed me this little part inside of the unit which was completely frozen up and he explained exactly the mechanics of why that was causing it to build. It was awesome and it was a very quick service.

The first company that came out partially fixed the issue, but then they kept jerking me around telling me they had to get somebody with more experience to come out there and look at it, but they never showed up. They said the problem was extensive and they couldn’t figure out what it was. And then finally, they got with American Home Shield and cancelled the order completely. So then, we called them back and that’s when Rush’s got involved. The guy that came out there from Rush’s fixed it. He drove up and was done within an hour.
American Home Shield told my wife that they would only charge us the one service fee but they tried to charge us a second service fee when the first company that came out didn’t do the job properly. My wife talked to them last night and got that taken care of. The warranty is something you pay for and generally, they haven’t given me any problems. When I needed something fixed or done, I pay the fee and they come out with some kind of resolution.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I hate there was a hassle in the midst of repairing your issue but I am glad we were able to get it resolved for you

It was partly my misunderstanding that the warranty company puts it under electrical because that’s the only part of the garage doors that they actually cover on their policy. My problems had to do with the cabling and the springs of the garage door, so it wouldn’t be covered by American Home Shield. It was partly my fault that I didn’t understand. It’s not the whole mechanism that was guaranteed, it was just the electrical part. And in this case, there was nothing wrong with the electrical part. American Home Shield would not honor any repairs. However, the garage door technician solved the problem with the cabling and all and didn’t charge us any extra. So, all that we ended up being out was the $100 that we paid to American Home Shield for their service call requirement.
I never really thought, when I checked off, that I wanted to cover my garage doors. It never occurred to me that since they listed it under electrical that they meant only the electrical part. So, if they were very specific about whether it’s just garage door or anything else, I would like it that they'd be very specific about what part of an appliance or gadget they're guaranteeing and what parts they're not.
And the other thing is, previously, we had put in a request to have a technician come out and repair a ceiling fan heater in our bathroom, but they couldn’t find anyone to do it. But they didn't tell me. I had to keep making calls before they would ever tell me that they couldn’t find anyone. So, that was the number one problem with that issue that I had to keep contacting them. Number two, it turns out it was very easy for me to find somebody to do the work. Also, they have this very strange situation where you have to be reimbursed. You have to pay the technician yourself, get the technician to call in to American Home Shield to explain what’s needed and they have to get approval. And then, I have to pay out of pocket and I have to send in receipts to get reimbursed. So, I went through all that and so did the technician. We did everything. I sent in the receipts and never heard back for weeks.
Finally, after about the third phone call to American Home Shield, they said, “That department is still working on a request from three weeks ago.” And then, I said, “Don’t you have any kinda setup where at least you get some automatic email back that says we’ve received your request?” And they said, “We don’t.” And I thought, that was crazy that a company doesn't have something as simple as that to let you know your receipts have been received and they're in some queue eventually to get reimbursed. I did get reimbursed eventually. All in all, about four weeks. But their lack of communication about things is not really a great business practice.

We woke up one morning and the house was cold, and when I checked to make sure none of the breakers were kicked out, the heater just wouldn't come on. So, I called AHS the very next day. Submitting the claim was very easy, and I was very pleased because they responded right away. Someone from the repair people gave me a call within 30 minutes. And then, the technicians came out the same day. But I'm having another issue with it. I'm getting ready to call the people back because it's doing the same thing.

I got a new water heater and the water heater I had was 66 gallons. Then, when I went to order a new one, they said they don’t make anything bigger than a 50-gallon hot water. I took their word for it. I asked if that will give me enough hot water and if they were sure it was gonna be good and they said yes. Then they said they would send me a booster. I got it and I had the plumber come back. He raised the heat in the heater and I’m still running out of hot water. The booster pump they sent me was not the best booster water pump. Also, I found out in the interim that they do make a 65-gallon, quick recovery water heater. So, the people that I spoke to with American Home Shield either didn’t have the right knowledge or they lied to me.
Now, my wife and I cannot bathe and take a bath and shower at the same time. We have to wait at least a half hour to 45 minutes before one of us has to go and do a shower or a bath. And when I’m in the shower, I never used to turn the knob to the hottest but now, that’s the only way I get hot water. When I put it on in the sink when I wash my hands and stuff, I only put on the hot water. I can’t mix it with the cold because the hot water gives me a nice warm but it’s not hot. So, I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t have told me better information. American Home Shield said somebody would call me back but nobody called me. What upsets me is after being a customer for 30 years, why would they do that to me? They’ve always answered my request to do something and they’ve been fine up until now.

We just bought a house and we were sure that the sump pump down the basement was working. When we moved in, we found out that it wasn't working. I tried to call the Realtor company that we bought the house from. I tried for two days but they would not return my calls. So, I called American Home Shield and the person from the real estate company finally called back, and they were gonna have their guy come out. Then their rep said, "You already got somebody coming out. Let them take care of it." So, RG Plumbing & Rooter came out, replaced the pump, replaced the seal and the pipe. However, the way the pipe was set up was wrong. There were two X-pipes going into the three X-pipe which was not to code, so AHS declined the claim, which I understand. But the real estate company paid the claim and everything was fine.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I like the safety of having the warranty. You’re not hit with huge bills at one time but AHS should give it two years before they’ll raise those fees again. Submitting a claim was also fine. And when the ignition went out, the contractor replaced my ignition in the furnace. It seems to be working fine now. One of the things I dislike immensely was the response time on the phone. You’ll be on the phone waiting an hour for someone to pick up. I’m hoping they get better this year.
