The furnace was having a heater exchanger problem and I filed an online claim for it through American Home Shield. The guy from United Air Temp was pretty good. Everything has been functioning great since they've come out. I've been with AHS for four years and I've told a couple of people, including my parents, about them.
Junius,
Thanks for being a loyal customer and for sharing your experience with us. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

My sister has AHS and she's been telling me for years to get them. I got the warranty, and I'm satisfied. Access Appliance tried to fix our appliance three times. The customer service let me know when they were coming. They kept me up to date when parts were being ordered. They did okay. It's just somehow the appliance couldn't be fixed.

My heat wasn't working. When I put in the claim online, I was notified by just a few minutes. The contractor said they could come out that day. But they ended up coming out a day or so later. There were two different people that came out and they both seemed to be okay. One guy was very professional and respectful. It was wet outside. He even put some shoe covers on.
Jawanika,

The service is great. Both American Home Shield and their techs are easy to get along with. We use American Home Shield on some of our rental properties too. We're in a good service area because there's a lot of work and a lot of technicians. We had a real pinch back in December when we had a bad clog. My daughter and I were trying to clean that thing out and we tried for two days. On the third day, I made a phone call to them and they had to find somebody else because the person that they preferred was booked up so bad and they couldn't get to me Monday. But then Long Lane came that same day, and we spent some time together now. This wasn't a simple clog. It was messing up a lot of stuff. The tech pulled the toilet and he got the clog out from main so that was really good. He was a real good guy. He knew what he was doing. He's been doing it for a long time.

I made an online request to have the keys for my house rekeyed. I moved in a year ago and I finally just got all the locks installed on the doors. Customer service was very prompt and they took care of the claim very quickly. They scheduled a guy from JB Lock and Key within 24 hours, and then he scheduled within the week. He came out and gave me four keys and changed all the locks. I was pleased that he brought a unique key and I feel fairly secure.

We lost heat on the first floor that came out of the heat pump. The guy from E&J Heating and Cooling came out and he was very professional and excellent. However he couldn't fix that. Terminix was under the house prior to that and they had wrecked some ducts under there and they didn't tell anybody. So, Terminix came out and fixed it afterwards. Overall, American Home Shield has been great every time I had to call.

In my recent claim regarding HTG, Rosenthal Heating and AC was sent. I liked the way they stayed in communication. They sent me an email and they also sent me a text. Then, the guy called when he was on his way. When he showed up, he was really good and polite. He tested everything and said that he needed to order parts. He came back two days later and installed it.
However, I’m very frustrated with American Home Shield because they usually send out piece of crap companies. I’ve already cancelled before and then they talked with me. I said that I'd give them one more shot but if they kept sending all these crappy contractors that don’t wanna do anything, I’m gonna yank all my five properties insured from them. I don’t understand why every year, I have to tell them which contractors to put on my “do not call” list. It’s like they change the contract number every year and I gotta start over from scratch. Then, they'd send the crappy ones again if I'd go on the automated. I gotta spend time going on the phone just so I don’t get stuck with the crappy one.
American Home Shield also charges us right away. Then, if that contractor didn’t show up, AHS would send somebody else out, and AHS would charge again. I was charged three times before I actually got one contractor out to look at one of my rentals. It took me a year and a half to get it all reimbursed and it was a hassle trying to get reimbursed. It’s supposed to be one fee, not each time they come out. It’s ridiculous how they do things. It used to be where I could just click on it to have it paid when they show up.
Last year, I finally insured my own home. They double-did one of my other addresses. By the time that they got the address all screwed up, four months went by. My house policy is gonna be renewed shortly and I lost four months’ worth because I can't put a claim in as it doesn’t have my address. I’ve been having nothing but problems and it’s like their service has gone downhill from when I first got it. Also, how come they don’t have where you can send an email to somebody to contact them? On their website, it’s gotten for the contact. But then, when you try to get it, they just give the phone number right where you get stuck back to square one.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you to make sure your issue is resolved. I look forward to assisting you.

I'm very pleased with my recent claim with AHS. It was wonderful. The guy notified me ahead of time that he was on his way and he arrived on time. He explained that the toilet was plugged with toilet tissue and other things down there and that I would be charged a fee of $175. He said that he had to let me know about that in advance. Then he did the snake and the toilet was cleared. I didn't have to pay anything extra as well. He was very professional and I really appreciated him.
I've been with AHS for a little over a year. You can call them and they will answer. I wasn't as happy with my microwave claim. It went out and I had to wait a long time. That process was quite different than what I had imagined. But as a whole, I'm pleased with AHS. I will end up spending more money going outside if I didn't have a home warranty.

American Home Shield sent someone out right away from Plumbers Inc. and the repairman was wonderful. We told him what the problem was then he went to the kitchen sink and he knew right what it was. He went back out to his truck and got the tools and came back in and showed us what was wrong, how the dishwasher, when it emptied, it came out through the air gap instead of draining into the sink. He fixed that immediately, didn’t take him any time at all, and that was really great. He knew exactly what he’d been doing. I was very pleased with the company that AHS picked out this time.
Now we're having a problem again with something under the sink. We're trying to determine if the leak is coming from the pipes but it looks like it’s in the grout. The grout is old now, it’s pulling away from the wall and it’s drying out and cracking so we put a pan under the sink and it catches the water. We discussed this with the guy. He said to make sure we get a good grout man that works with granite because I have granite on the countertop and right behind the faucet. All that time that the water was draining incorrectly out of the dishwasher and going behind the faucet, it was probably eating the grout away. I need to find a man then I’ll be able to determine whether I need some more help on the piping underneath. I’ve hesitated to call American Home Shield back because I don’t think they fix the pipes underneath when there’s a problem with it. But I should probably call them up again just in case the grouting doesn’t get the job done.
I had a bad experience a couple of years ago with another plumbing company, but American Home took care of it. They located another plumber to come back and fix the hot water heater that the first company forgot to connect but yet wouldn't come back the next day. They were a bad company. I was glad AHS got rid of them.
I haven’t quite decided if I should renew my policy in March, but I thought this experience was a good time to happen so I could know before I renew. I was so pleased with the staff and the quick response, and I was very happy with American Shield responding immediately and answered the phone. I didn’t have to wait two hours anymore. I felt that they made a huge improvement in that. I hope it happens like that next time. I had a property manager trying to manage the call for me and I felt bad for them because at least I had a speaker phone and I was able to go about my business and wait a couple of hours for AHS to answer, but it was absolutely horrendous before. I’ve been with AHS for about four years now. I have just hung in there because I’m on a fixed income and I don’t know how to fix anything. They’re maybe the best of all the other home protection services.

After submitting a claim to American Home Shield, it takes them either that day or the next day for a contractor to come out. I submitted one online, where Pride AC and Heating came out to work on a heating unit. They repaired it in November, and then the issue came back up again in December. I had them come out and they came back out, and then it still was not fixed. So, they had to come back out a week later. But each and every time, they had been extremely nice. The people at that particular heating and air conditioning company that you guys used were so great. They worked with me knowing that it was with a tenant. I ask them to go through her to set the appointments and they always did that. Then they always sent me the information along with her. I asked them to send me a bill so I knew what was taken care of there, so I had that for my records.
Michelle,

The only thing with AHS is that every time I called, they switched me to one thing to another, and they just kept disconnecting me, and I could never get through. I've called three times and it happened every time. It was very frustrating. They should get people on the phone that know what they're doing. But the contractors they sent were good. We had a guy come out and deal with our garbage disposal. My mom really liked him. The guy with the washing machine was nice as well. He had to order a part. Then he got the part and installed it in less than an hour, and he was out of here.

With my most recent American Home Shield claim, everything went as planned as per the contract. I submitted the claim by phone and went through all the prompts, but I requested a live person. A few months back, during a previous claim, things didn't go so well, but the person I had this time was perfect. I was told that the contractor will be contacting me within 24 hours and they did. I live in a house that was built in 1983. The original thermostat was in it, but it was coming off the wall. It kept clicking on and off. The kid that J.F. Whitlow sent out did a great job. He put a new digital thermostat in and right now, I'm trying to learn it. AHS is a good plan. And at this point, my experience with them has been outstanding.

The technician showed up on time and he was in contact with me at work, filling me on what he did. He had the part available, which was good because sometimes, they come out and they have to order the part and have to come out again. But he had it available and got us back up and working the same day.

The microwave wouldn’t turn on. The tech came out and he checked it. He was very professional and very clean. He found out that there was a fuse that had blown and that was what was causing it. He went several times to make sure there wasn’t something else wrong because that seemed so simple. But that fuse, it was in there, had blown, and that’s what needed to be replaced. And I haven’t had any problems with this since then. He was good. We've had Home Shield since 2005 and we continue to renew with them because it works. The guy was very early. He walked me through what he was looking at and what went wrong. He then ran to Lowe’s, picked the garbage disposal up and came back to put it in. I've been with AHS for about five years now and interacting with the reps has always been awesome, nice and easy. We get the claim set up then we go. I have told friends about AHS. It was the first problem I’ve had and American Home Shield took care of it, and it couldn’t have gone better. Honesty Mechanical was sent out and everything went very well. When the tech came, he quickly diagnosed the problem and found the trouble almost immediately. He had to get a new fan motor for the unit but he didn’t have one available so he had to get one and come back, but did a very nice job. Everything works perfectly now and I really appreciate it. The reps at American Home Shield answered right away when I called in for a claim. The garbage disposal was jammed and there was a leak underneath the sink, and submitting the claim was a pretty simple process. They take your credit card number, tell you who the contractor is and give you the phone number just in case, but the contractor calls you. If they don’t call you right away, you have the phone number to call them, but they did call right away, so it wasn’t a problem. In fact, the tech got me right away. The initial call was right before Christmas and it was kind of a busy time of the year, but he came out right away. He even called and said he was running a little early, which is a nice thing. So, I’m very happy with them. To me, to get people that are on time, fix the problem and are nice are my three important criteria, and they checked all those boxes. I have no complaints.

The online way of putting a claim in is easy. The contractors have been good, especially this last one. They’re very knowledgeable and they demonstrated the equipment well to me and talked to me about everything they were doing. Sometimes, I wish I could choose who the contractor would be, but they seem to be sending okay contractors. AHS tends also to be a little bit more expensive than some of the others.

The hot water heater was kaput. American Home Shield handled it fantastically because it only cost me $300 as opposed to 1,500 or $2,000. The plumber that they have on contract is fantastic, and I just called them for non-warranty issue today because I thought it was so good. He got me in the next day, and he came out and he saw it, and then he had to order the part. He didn’t even do any work on the hot water heater. He said, “No, it’s definitely broken. There's water leaking at the bottom of it.” And it took him about two days to get the part in and he came back and put it in. It took him an hour maybe to take it out and replace it.
The claim submission process with AHS was very easy. With AHS, you pay a little bit more, but it’s been a lot better than a lot of home warranties. I've had them for about two years now, and my only complaint is that when the plumber called me to tell me what was and wasn’t covered. AHS is supposed to reach out and tell me what my coverage is. The plumber ended up telling me what he could do and how much it was gonna cost, which was fine. AHS never reached out. They didn’t even leave a message. I didn’t even have any missed calls.

I waited for the contractor for a week. Then when he came, he took a look, and he said the whole thing was broken and needed to be replaced. My deductible was 75. Then, he said he was gonna call AHS. Later, he told me that I have to pay out of my own pocket. I asked if we were talking about 100 and he said that he didn't know yet. He also said that he had to talk to AHS again, but he needed my consent first. I said if it was 100, I think it was reasonable. He came back quickly and when he showed up, he already had the equipment ready. He fixed the faucet and tested it. And it was around 80. I also file a claim for a rekey and it was a very good experience as well.

Having American Home Shield, I like being able to just call and at least get a response for anything that's internally wrong with the house. It's a disappointment, however, that they don't cover anything outside the house. I have some electrical issues, like a plug on the outside of the wall and a floodlight that don't work, and I am a little annoyed that they don't cover that. I figured, if it's part of the home, it should be covered. Also, around three years ago, I had a heating problem and American Home Shield refused to replace the Nest thermostat. That's why I was pleasantly surprised that, on our most recent heating claim, they replaced the thermostat with a Nest one.
Honesty Mechanical came out for the claim and they were on time. They said it would be anywhere from 8:00 to noon, and the tech gave me a call 30 minutes before their arrival. They had to crawl underneath the house to diagnose the problem, and then they ordered the new thermostat. When they got it, they called and said they would be out anywhere from noon to 6:00, and gave me a half an hour warning. They then replaced the thermostat, and everything was fine.
Good Morning Mr. Johnston,

I started a service work order on 2 appliances approx 1 month ago. A American Home Shield - AHS CSR/Associate created a work order for my dryer and did what they call an add on for the refrigerator (both on one work order - they have to do a second appliance as a add on I was told by the AHS Associate). The contractor/vendor: Prudent Mechanical has yet to complete the work order.
They have either not shown for their scheduled appointment(s), shown 4 to 5 hours outside of their scheduled appt time, had to reschedule due to it being outside the original scheduled appt., shown without tools to do their initial diagnosis, ordered the wrong part when it needed a different part to fix the problem, the service tech argued with the homeowner as to not having the complete work order dispatch information (i.e., only had the dispatch for the dryer and not the refrigerator), would not call their office to follow up on complete work order dispatch and would not look at the add on refrigerator (not limited to this).
On a repeat service call from Prudent Mechanical, the service tech again argued with homeowner as to the add on refrigerator and would not diagnosis the problem, he simply took cell pictures of the model and water lying on floor and stated this was a maintenance problem. Have made several calls to vendor/contractor secretary Sonja. She never has any info and never seems to knows anything. I have left messages for owner Akin, who will not return calls either . Dates can be provided if needed. As far a American Home Shield, I have called them on 1/6,1/10, 1/14, 1/16, 1/20, 1/21 and 1/22/2020 (I am sure I missed a date or 2). Spoken to numerous AHS Associates trying to come to some resolution in this matter and have gotten nowhere. I always get a different AHS Associate and a different story with unhelpful advice.
It is very frustrating having to repeated the story every time and no one seems to be able to assist you. On almost all those dates the AHS Associate would reach out to the vendor/contract secretary Sonja, to be told she could not assist them but would get info and call them back (which she did not) or the AMS Associate got the vendor/contractors vm and had to leave a message for a call back (which they never got).
My phone conversation 1/16 with a AHS Associate in detailed the diagnosis they were given for the refrigerator was, it was a maintenance issue. The AHS Associate said this was an unacceptable diagnosis for AHS so the AHS Associate was requesting a formal diagnosis from the vendor/contractor and that I should call back in two days to see if AHS ever got that from the vendor/contractor. I was also advised and if the vendor/contractor had not responded at that time AHS would send my case to their Contract Relations department for possible escalation and I could request a new vendor/contractor and a new work order could be set up.
I actually waited until 1/20 to give additional time for AHS to follow up on this. When I called AHS on 1/20 I was told I had to personally request this be sent to Contract Relations and their was nothing the AHS Associate could do at that time to escalate the process. The AHS Associate sent an email to Contract Relations and said I should hear something in 24 hours and that there was nothing they could do for me. I did not receive a call back in 24 hours. I have been told up to this point there were no other departments or management personnel I could speak to or email.
When I called on 1/21 I again was told it was in Contract Relations and their was nothing they could do and that I needed to be patient. Then when I stood my ground, I was advised at this time they do have supervisors. So I requested a called back from a supervisor (of course I did not get one) and I was told they would send a follow up email to the Contract Relations to see if they would escalate this. I called back again today 1/22 to be told I still can not request a different vendor/contractor to be assigned but they would again follow up with the original vendor/contractor for more info...
"PLEASE" HELP! How much more patient can I be! I am paying for a warranty which I have had going on the second year and this is the first time I have attempted to use it to no avail. My kitchen wood floor is being ruined by the water leaking from the refrigerator which I am going to hold both AHS and the vendor/contractual responsible and I am paying an unnecessary expense to use a laundry mat to dry my close because the original part ordered was wrong. To date I have no appointments set up to complete the work on the dryer and refrigerator by the vendor/contractor. Also, there is a lot more information that goes along with this issue I have not provided that can be supplied if needed.
We do apologize for the delay with your appliances. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you in this matter. There is also an email sent to you.

Mid January, Friday 10, called AHS. Mechanic was sent to look at it. He came out on Monday the thirteenth replaced the blower motor. Furnace started making loud noises that fill the house. Call AHS again on January 15th. AHS said that the repair guy said the furnace was in good condition but could use a cleaning. We called our mechanic who came out on Thursday January 16th and he gave a thorough cleaning and informed us that it need a inductor motor replace. Friday the 17th the unit quit working, so called AHS and informed them it had quit. They told us that they would notify the mechanic they sent out originally. Saturday AHS called and said the mechanic would be out on Monday January 20th.
January 20th AHS mechanic came in the afternoon. Fiddled with furnace. Said we need a part. He started the furnace. It worked until just after he left. As he was leaving he told me he had put in a parts order to AHS. Today is Wednesday January 22. I have called AHS 4 times for a update on the part. This morning I called AHS and was told that they just received the order for the part and have yet to order it. Was also informed that it would take up to 7 days for the part.
They offered 120.00 for a hotel room for a night. Then offered to reimburse for the purchase of two space heaters. So I did a check on the repair guy AHS sent to my home Amazing Comfort LLC in Hampton VA. I looked up the name of the company through DPOR the governing licensing board in Virginia. I did not see any license for Amazing Comfort. I also checked Google for Amazing Comfort. The only reference on Google for this company (Amazing Comfort), is a bad review on the BBB website. So what any intelligent person would assume is " Who are these repair people AHS is sending to my home, and why are they not vetted better?
Wednesday January 22nd. It has been 12 days since AHS sent out Amazing Comfort LLC to repair the furnace and now say that it will be up to (maybe?) another 7 days for the part to arrive. Today I called the repairman who had cleaned the furnace and asked if he could take a look at the furnace. He sent out a repair guy in less than 2 hours had the replacement part installed and furnace working. Thank you AC PLUS!!! I am a licensed real estate agent and in meetings we sometimes have AHS representatives come in and explain how beneficial it is for our home sellers and buyers to buy AHS products. I know next time an AHS salesperson comes to sell us I will be relating this ordeal with all those present.
Thanks for reaching out. Are you all still in need of assistance?

We had called a couple of companies and American Home Shield's price fit more within our budget. It covers everything, including our pool. The problem with our pool was the heater as we couldn’t get it to come on. I got a first opinion and I wasn’t happy with it, so I called and asked them if I could get a second opinion and they said yes. That right there was very commendable.
We got a second opinion and it was, “We know this is your problem and we can take care of this, and you don’t have to call American Home Shield. We will work with them and we will get it taken care of for you.” I actually signed Barracuda on as my permanent pool people. The air about them was professional and knowledgeable, and there was no hesitation. They really knew what they were doing and they gave that impression as well. AHS did turn us down for another claim, which I understood because it was under our deductible. So far, everything’s great with them and I'm very pleased.

When someone call in with a heat issue, people should should try to listen and be more pleasant. Whoever I was speaking to on the phone, from the first company, was very rude from the first phone call when she told me someone was gonna come out. When the guy came out, he said that I needed a part. He fixed the unit to where it would come on. He put the part on there that he had but before he could come back out, about a week later, the unit went out again. All this was in December. I called again and spoke to the lady of the first company. She scheduled me with almost two weeks’ wait for a senior tech to come back out.
I called back in to Home Shield and I explained everything to her. I have nothing against American Home Shield. It’s the contractors that they deal with. American Home Shield needs to pick and choose what contractors they're gonna deal with, and listen to the consumers when they complain. The next day, the next company came out and that experience was very nice. The guy tried to rig the unit up again so we could have heat. But two parts were supposed to be put on at the same time. What he did didn’t work but I couldn’t get mad at him because he let me know what was going on. When the part came in, he came right back and put it on. He was very nice. When I called on the weekend though, one of Home Shield's representatives was very rude too so I waited until a Monday and called back.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for my AC that was not cooling. Through their website, they told me who the contractor would be and that they will contact me within 24 hours to tell me when they were coming. The contractor was supposed to call me the day before they arrive, but I never got a call from them. I was uneasy about when they’d call me. Am I gonna be able to do this or do that? So, I called them the morning of the service to find out what time they were coming. My interaction with them was good. Once I called them and said that I was supposed to get a call last night to give me a time frame, they apologized. The technician that came out was excellent. I really liked him. He was perfect. He found out what was wrong with the AC, went and got the part, and then, came back and fixed it. Not calling me the night before to tell me what I expected was the only thing that they didn’t do right.

I heard about Home Shield from a family member and then I got involved in it. They've been very responsive and they've done everything to my expectations. I've also recommended it to a lot of my friends. I've used them twice in the last three years and recently, I've had a claim for my stove. It is a gas stove but in order to turn on the oven, I have to press the button. But the electronic portion of it was out and none of the clocks work. So my top burners would work but my oven wouldn't.
I called American Shield and their reps were awesome. They sent Coastline Appliance and they were very friendly and nice. It happened during the Thanksgiving holiday so I was without an oven for the whole time, which is inconvenient. They had to order the part and since they had a holiday, it was about a three week period before I got serviced and they had my oven fixed. But due to the holiday, I can understand. Also, the contractors are from a town that's an hour away.

My drain line was leaking and still is leaking, but the plumbers said the issue was that the line was backed up. But then if the line is backed up, it’s gonna come out somewhere. But it’s still leaking. I didn’t call back American Home Shield because I don’t have the $75 to do another home visit. But I want them to replace the drain line that’s still leaking. So the issue is not resolved. This is my first claim and submitting the claim online was fairly easy. When the plumbers came out, they said they drained the line from outside of the house. But I don’t think it was because of the line was backed up. Every time I’ve used that washing machine and it goes to drain or spin, the water comes out behind the wall. I shoulda been more assertive to replace that drain line.

I put a request in to American Home Shield for my bathroom toilet and they sent a plumber who was ill out. He couldn't do the service needed. He was friendly though and said that there was nobody else. He was calling his supervisor who was not answering his phone and said that there was no one else that he could call. I told him that if he was sick, he needed to go home.
When I called AHS back, they couldn't accommodate me. So, I called a plumber and went out of pocket some $270 dollars. I went back to AHS asking them to reimburse me since they did not honor our agreement. They told me they had mailed me a check, but I never got that. It wasn't until Consumer Affairs got involved that they finally sent me the money. I have a lot of gripe with AHS but when I weigh it out, I'm better with them than without them. Still, I don't like that if I have an issue with them, I just go back and forth and they transfer me around. There's no one person I can talk to in order to resolve it.

If I try to do my claims online and need for the contractor to come back for a repeat, I’ll be charged another fee. So I have to call in so that if they need to dispatch within that warranty period, they will dispatch the same company and not try to charge me another dispatch fee. Recently my dryer wasn't heating and they sent A-Town within 24 hours. The contractor was knowledgeable and really seem like he knew what he was doing. So, I’m comfortable with that. The first day after the repair the dryer seem to work, but then when I washed and dried three days later it didn’t seem like it was drying because it took two cycles. But I wanna do it again just in case I had too many clothes or whatever elements may have impacted that.
This is my second contract with AHS. I've been off and on with them for probably 10 years. Initially I had been frustrated with AHS but was just too lazy to go look for another company. First, my oven had been repaired by another contractor and then it didn’t work anymore. But that company, A-Town and the professionalism of the young lady that called me to schedule the appointment, the timeliness and the way they did exactly what they said, changed my perception. I said, “Okay, they have good contractors now.”

For this claim, they tried to find the heating element for my dryer but could not. They turned the search for a replacement over to American Home Shield and they couldn't find one either so AHS is replacing the unit. American Home Shield sent Cal Valley Appliance Repair out, and the guy diagnosed the issue immediately and fixed it on the spot. It was good. I did 3 separate claims on the same day and the other 2 were responded quickly as well. I got confirmation on the expected appointment. The assigned contractors came out, did their job, and everything is taken care of. It was all within the next 24 hours. I've had American Home Shield since November and it's definitely a smart move to invest into a home warranty right after the builder's warranty expires 'cause it seems that after the fact is when everything tends to take place.

I had water running out from the bottom of the water heater unit. I called American Home Shield and they sent out Wright Way Plumbing. The guy that came out was very nice and he did a great job. The water heater itself was functioning correctly, but the problem was a pin-prick in the type of piping that was used to install it. With that little pin prick, it was spraying out water. The tech replaced all that piping so that I won’t have that problem in the future. I’m very satisfied with that experience. I would strongly recommend the professional job that they do. I would have them come back again. They were great.

American Home Shield has been professionally working with me to resolve the issue with my stove burners. It has taken longer that I would have liked, but in the end they will have a very satisfied customer. We are at the point of resolution, and I am pleased to say they have been quite attentive in their efforts to satisfy my needs. I have not accepted their offer to date, but I plan to do so, and would happily now give them a 5 star rating.

In December I reported my burner knobs had broken off. Been living with one working burner. A contractor came to my home. Told American Shield part of the issue is cleaning needs to be done under the burners. He also stated broken knobs need to be replaced, which he took photos of (I have them in hand). Never heard from him again. American Shield called him & he stated they are ordered; still never heard from him. A new rep. from American Shield stated the cleaning is not covered. I said I do not believe that is an issue for the burners not working. It is broken knobs. They sent a 2nd opinion. They are now refusing to even replace the broken knobs even though it was approved on the 1st opinion. The 2nd opinion stated I do not have them, when in fact he actually handed me one of them, which I put in the drawer with the others. Only solution on their part is to prove I have the knobs by sending out a third contractor.
I asked if I could send them a photo, NOPE! I work & this will be the 3rd time I have to stay home for another opinion. In other words, a month ago the knobs were covered, now they are not, due to the fact the 2nd opinion stated I don't have them, which of course I do. I can't wait to see what the 3rd opinion brings around, while I sit here with one working burner.
We do apologize this issue has not been handled in a timely manner, and we are delighted in working with you for a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further. An email has been sent to you, and hopes to connect with you soon.

When I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, they responded that day. Then, Appliance Wizard was quick to come out to check my oven and dryer. The guy was great and he was able to get my dryer fixed. The oven, however, needs to be replaced. AHS responded quickly to get it replaced, but the problem with them is that they have more questions like the color and the measurements, so trying to get a hold of a person by phone was not possible. When I got through, the girl told me when would be the best time to call, like when they first open or when they first close. And I haven't called them back. Overall, we have called AHS out several times and they have been really great. If you don’t have to have things replaced and you just need to get them fixed, they are wonderful.

Submitting claims online to AHS is easy. With my last claim, I put the request in on Christmas Eve and when I got a phone call the day after Christmas, AHS' contractors could not be at my place until the next Monday. I called AHS and told them that was unacceptable and that I needed someone. They called me back within an hour and a half and told me that they sent Neely Brothers to service my claim. The tech found my issue, fixed it and was out in a timely manner. During the repair, he put out his drop cloth and cleaned everything up.

I had a dryer claim with American Home Shield and it was fine. The contractor came out and changed a part. He was professional, courteous, and it didn't take him very long to get the dryer working. The dryer wasn't working at all and they got it going. So, it went well. I also had a water heater claim, and the vendor had to come out twice because they got the heat going, but then the fan wouldn't turn off. They had to come back and make an adjustment on the gauge, so that it would shut off automatically.
I would recommend them giving me options on what they would cover and what they won't. I had an issue where the contractor came out and they gave me a quote to replace it and I had to spend a couple of thousand dollars out of pocket. I'm like, "Wait a second. I thought I had insurance." They said the insurance only covers X amount. What AHS should have done is give me options and said, "Look, the insurance covers this and this is what we could fix or replace. If you want a complete haul over, then you have to come out of pocket."
I just said, "Just pay me out what it is and then I'll source out a vendor and get it fixed myself." And it took forever, but I finally got a check and I used that money to call someone on my own to come out and replace it at a reasonable price where I wasn't coming out of pocket much. But I was disappointed on that first quote when they came out. On that particular case, the experience was not good. I was upset. It was the first order that I placed, and I was very disappointed. I was ready to cancel my membership and move on just because I was so disappointed. But after that, I've had them come out for a couple of other things, and things have gone better.
We do apologize your initial issue was not taken care of, we are however pleased that your future issues were handled. Thank you for staying with us and sharing your experience with us.

I've only had one bad experience with American Home Shield and that was when I was trying to explain to an operator what the previous tech had explained to me. She tried to discount me like I didn't know what I was talking about. When I started giving her more information, she goes, "But what are you asking me questions for because you already know the answers?" I told her the man gave me bits and pieces of information which was what I was giving her. I was asking her questions because I needed the rest of the information. And she just continued to be rude. I said, "You know, you just have a nice day," and I hung up on her. After every claim, AHS always sends a survey about the company that came, the contractor that come out, as well as the operator. I filled that out. Other than her, everybody else has been good.

Climate Masters came out for a heating issue. They told me that it’s a two-tier system and the way it works is that, if it goes under 30 something degrees, you have to put it on emergency and then the heat will come on upstairs. They made sure this is gonna work and they left. But we’re still having the same cold air coming out under 30 degrees, so they really didn’t fix it.
American Home Shield's claims process is great, but you still have to pay $75 for them to come out, which was interesting. I paid $75 and they still didn’t get it properly diagnosed. Their contractors have to at least diagnose and fix the issue. Right now, I’m out of $75 and it’s still cold. So, I’m gonna call them again this week and get somebody else to come out.

They fixed the leak under the sink but there’s still one side and it’s still leaking. The faucet is not working at all. My wife was taking a shower and when she turned it on the other day, the whole thing came out. So I called Dempsey but they told me that I have to call American Shield so they can issue the ticket for Dempsey.
The first time I called American Home Shield was for an outside light and they told me the guy was gonna come. They charged $100 and the guy came but he said he couldn’t do it. He said that it was outside wiring and that it was not covered. I hope American Home Shield can improve that, like let us know before if somebody comes. We had another claim for the refrigeration and that was fixed. That was good. The technician came so many times then finally, American Home Shield sent the Sears repair company and they fixed it. The technician was good. He was professional and did a good job. Overall, I’m very satisfied.

It's easier to call in to submit claims with American Home Shield. I've had pretty good assistance with their reps. I've had a few that left a little to be desired but two can't mess up the whole thing that we have with the service. I had a dishwasher claim where they sent Affordable Appliance Repair out. The service guy was really good. He worked on it because it was going into the holiday. And he came on a Wednesday, and he had the parts in probably Saturday. He came and repaired it. So far, the dishwasher is working really good because he repaired the pieces. He didn't replace a lot of the hardware. It was the inside that was messed up. He had a kit that he had gotten and instead of trying to repair what was broken, he got the kit to repair it.
My husband said sometimes, the response time is a little slow. Last summer, we had an issue with our air conditioner a couple times. It was the second time that they had replaced the inside of the air conditioner. It's a five-ton unit. With this latest company that we had though, they worked diligently to get it fixed because we had to move out of the house because it was so hot. So it was an inconvenience for us to stay on a hotel. We were in a hotel for about a week. As a matter of fact, my kids had all came in and that was really hot here. We all had to leave.
My kids said, "We'll stay on a hotel with you tonight, but you know, tomorrow, we're gonna get on the road and go back home." So it was pretty disappointing that we didn't have our family outing like we usually do. One other situation was with our dryer. We had a job on the dryer and the guy came and looked at it and he said that it was non-serviceable. I was pretty disappointed about that because I had to buy another dryer. He said I can't say that it was a fault of the dryer. It burned like it did.

American Home Shield is our first warranty, so we’ve gotten stuck with them, and we've had them for quite a few years now. I put in a request online and then they sent me an email with all the information as to when to expect the contractors out. Aqua Plus came out to service the request for my equipment because the filter was not working. They took a look at the equipment, and said they need to be replaced, and they said they have to get back to Home Shield and also talk to their supervisors. Once it was approved, which was the same day, they went and brought the equipment and replaced it with a new filter and a new housing. They were prompt and very professional. And everything is functioning very well now.

Price Right Plumbing came out for a stopped-up sink. We thought it was the garbage disposal. They came out and said they couldn’t do anything because there was no cleanout. They said on their ticket they have to get on the roof to get into that vent and come down that cleanout. And since American Home Shield does not pay for the roof cleanout, I called Home Advisor and got hooked up with Russell’s. Russell’s came out today, and Lo and behold there is a cleanout under my sink and there is no roof vent. So Price Right lied to me all the way around. I had put out $75 for their service and didn’t event get it right. And then, I had to go and pay this other company all of this money to get this thing corrected.
There was also a time I told AHS specifically that there was a pump problem with our heating system. But they sent somebody that did not work on pumps. And we had to pay $75 to them before they sent this person out. They should not have sent that person out. AHS is not doing their job as far as I'm concerned. They don’t check the companies that they’re hiring.
The last time AHS sent somebody out to do something and they said it wasn’t covered and wouldn’t give me my money back. But I've had AHS three years ago since we bought the house and for the most part I have been satisfied. But for them not to take care of me as a customer the way I think they should and these couple of different instances, they put sour grapes in my mouth and I am going to cut them off. I’ll keep my $67 a month that I'm paying them and save that to put towards these big bills like I just had today.

Then, the claim was submitted and I got an email of what company’s coming out and on what day. Loyal Hands Appliances' tech was great. He waited for me to get home and explained what was going on. AHS seems to have pride in their work and tried to do everything well. And their technicians are all very qualified. Our recent claim with AHS was a microwave. I called AHS and the rep was excellent and did the job very well. The contractors came out and checked it and said the door handle was off and it wouldn’t turn on the inside. They decided to replace it with a new one. We opted to use the microwave that they suggested. I called that morning and it might’ve been within two hours when the contractor called. I figured he was going to make an appointment, but he asked if someone would be home. He said he had our address and he would be on his way. He came in, put the paper slippers over his feet and cleaned. He was a very nice man. Our dishwasher was repaired within three hours of my initial call. I was shocked. I had one issue a few years ago with the microwave and that shouldn’t have taken that long but it took a while because it needed a motherboard. The motherboard was damaged in shipping, so that took three weeks to repair. Outside of that, AHS has been fine.

American Home Shield was part of the agreement when we bought our house. We were given some options, and then I went online and picked it out. There were several issues we had with the air conditioning system, and American Home Shield had sent several different contractors over since June. Each of the contractors fixed something but then they left other things that weren’t fixed.
At the beginning, they were also tying to scam us. The guy came to the house and he was telling my wife, “You have to replace the whole system, and if you go through American Home Shield, it will take about 10 days for us to get in here and fix this.”And this was July in Houston when it is hot and noisy. He gave a quote of 12,000 to 14,000, and he said that if we go with him and buy a new system, then they could have somebody here on Monday morning. It was like strong-arming us. I said that I would pass, but he was trying to pressure my wife to do that and it disappointed me. And then finally another company came in and replaced the control board and the contractor wired it wrong so we ended up with a real mess. Overall, the contractors that have been out were nice, but not good and technical.
Then Three Brothers came in and fixed everything. They fixed even the other previous issues the other contractors had done. They did a great job. It took them less than two hours to get everything sorted. They were very professional, and very serious about getting to work and doing it. They didn’t want to sit around and just chit chat. They also kept me informed of everything. Their communication skills were very good.
The highlight of using AHS is the ease of use. Using them has also saved us quite a bit of money. What they should do to improve, however, is to send an alert to the contractor that they should call the homeowner or they should set the appointment up for them because all AHS is doing is saying, “Okay, here’s the contractor, here’s the phone number”. It is like they leave it to the homeowner. Then I got to explain everything to the contractor and then they ask me questions. If I really knew the right answer, I would just fix it myself.

1st American Plumbing repaired my problem and the guy was very professional. He showed me exactly what was going on before he repaired it and he resolved it in about 30 minutes. I was very satisfied with the time frame but I’ve had problems with it before. I have had the home warranty for almost 20 years and I’ve been satisfied up until this year. I’ve had some incidents this year that I wasn’t too pleased about. Prior to that, everything has been acceptable. They could improve on the scheduling. When I have an emergency situation, they could work with me and try to get contractors that work on the weekend or after hours.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Betty. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

My heat wasn't working so I submitted a request over the phone and the representative took the information. Jazz Aire called me immediately and came right out. They were excellent and everything was repaired the same day. However, I have found American Home Shield not to be the best. I'm also considering not renewing the contract. I had an issue with my refrigerator and they couldn't locate the part that they wanted to get, so they had to take my refrigerator down for 2 or three 3 weeks. Of course, one can't do without a refrigerator. And instead of offering me a new refrigerator which I'm supposed to have repaired or replaced, AHS offered me $300.
Also, I had an issue with my air conditioner last year and it was not the contractor's fault as it was American Home Shield's fault. They sent out first the part to the wrong vendor, then they sent out the wrong part and I was down for over a month. I was with no air conditioning at 100-degree heat and I'm 72 years old. So, I wasn't too happy with that. I finally asked the vendor to find the part, which was a compressor, outside of them. He got it that same day and installed it, and I paid directly for the part, and AHS finally reimbursed me but after giving me a scolding for having done that.

There was a time when I had an issue with my garbage disposal. It wouldn't power up or spin. I called in a claim to AHS and asked them if there was any warranty on it. They explained that the warranty on it was only for three months. They sent Loftis Home Improvements and within 24 hours, they contacted me to set up an appointment. When they came, they found that my wife had a teaspoon that was wedged in the disposal. They fished it out, mangled up and afterward, the disposal worked. I found them to be one of the best plumbers that I've ever had come out to my house. I'm very happy with them.

My claim with AHS for an appliance issue went very well. I was really happy with the gentleman from Sears. He was a nice man and he informed us right away that the problem was the safety feature in our stove. We had the brochure on it and we read it but we did not see that safety feature. I was very satisfied because it was Thanksgiving time and my stove had gone out, and all it was was a matter of knowing how to reset it and it wasn't in the literature that we had. It had like a child lock on it and we weren't aware of that. And it has never happened before in the stove. But he explained to us that that was all that was, and he just reset it, and everything was fine. He resolved the problem in two and a half seconds. We've had our AHS warranty for 35 years. It's a good security feeling to know that we have a back-up plan if we can't repair something or take care of an issue ourselves.

One night, my daughter Olivia was smelling something burning, so they turned off the furnace and she gave us a call. A claim was filed to American Home Shield and I was there when the tech from JE Johnson came out. That experience was wonderful. Apparently, the air wasn't going through and the blower was overheating. He did a very thorough check and he checked for carbon monoxide. And he came to the conclusion that the heating ducts needed to be really cleaned out because it's an older condo and the buildup in the filter was what they were smelling. So, we went ahead that day and made an appointment to have all the ducts cleaned out, and it has been fine ever since. So far, American Home Shield's service has been good. They've been quick on calling back and they've sent out some nice people.

We contacted American Home Shield and they contacted the contractor. From then on, it was between us and the contractor, so it all worked out smoothly. There was a little bit of confusion on some of the parts for the master bedroom spa but it got fixed and I was satisfied. I’m happy that it's working now. The technician was very nice and helped us out. He was in contact with us and let us know that the part was on the way or if there were any delays, so it was good. He explained what was wrong, checked everything out and made sure everything was in working order 100% before he left.
We submitted another claim for my outdoor spa and it was the same thing. The contractor came and identified the problem, fixed it, and I had no complaints. That was fixed quicker. This one was a little bit different because they had to cut out a piece of the wall in the house and did a little bit more steps but it was perfectly fine. It was a straightforward fix, so I didn't have to jump through any hoops except for the parts but it was just a unique type of system and it all worked out.

I joked with the guy, “Hey, if you’re As Soon as Possible, why did it take you four days to get here?” He answered, "Normally, we would come right away the next day, but you happened to catch us right at New Year’s.” But once he came it only took him 30 minutes to fix the heater, and he was gone. It was quick. He knew exactly what it was. I was very satisfied.

American Home Shield has been wonderful. I was with them for 10 years. I left them, and I came back like two years ago. They have been wonderful. They sent Safe Cali Plumbing for my garbage disposal, my sink, and my kitchen and also for the toilet in my master bedroom. The disposal wasn't working, and the contractor came and he fixed it. There's a reboot button that he pushed, and something was stuck in it. In the bathroom, the toilet wouldn't flush properly, so he replaced that. Then there was a valve at the bottom of the toilet that was stuck, so in case of emergency, I couldn't turn it on and off, and he replaced that. He was really professional and very helpful. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the person on the phone was very accommodating. They usually say the contractors are gonna call you within 24 hours. I wasn't very happy with my heating claim. As soon as the heater got to its temperature, instead of recycling and turning back on to get to the same degree that we set it, it wouldn’t go back on. The guy from Everyday Heating had to come out three times and was rude. He was cocky with me and we had a few words. When we were in the basement and I started talking to him, he said, “This is gonna take a little bit. You don’t have to stand over me.” Although I went along with him, I thought that this is my house and I’ll stand wherever I want. He was here for only 10 minutes and out the door, he went. I sat here for another three days without heat, to get him back. When he came back in, he said that we gotta do this and that. I said that I didn't care what he had to do, just get some heat back in the house.
He got it up and running, and was right out the door again. I asked him why he doesn't stay to watch it go on and off. He said that it would take too long and that he had other things to do. It wasn’t really the words. He was just out the door and didn’t wanna waste any time. That’s what you’re here for, to fix my heater. Then when he came back the third time, he was with his kid, which I didn’t appreciate. He came down and got really loud with me. I told him straight up that if he wanted to bump heads, that was fine with me because I’m not gonna take his crap. My heat is down and I’m paying for the repair. I want it done. I was just glad to get him out the door.
I was standing way behind him but I was watching him and the issue looked like it was a loose wire. Nothing was done about it though. He just jiggled a bunch of wires, and then it was working. So it was a loose wire or something, but he still didn’t determine which one it was. I wouldn’t use Everyday Heating again. I was on the internet and I was looking at some of the reviews. The same thing came up. Others said the guy was rude and loud. He got it working, but it wasn’t a professional job as far as I'm concerned. Then, on top of it all, I’m the bedroom with a space heater because I was sick as a dog, which I mentioned that to him a couple of times. I'm really disappointed and I don’t think I'm gonna use AHS again. I figured, if I'm paying for something, I should get some good help. If you're gonna have people, get somebody that's a little more reputable. Everyday Heating hasn’t even been in business for a year.
Good morning Timothy,
Thank you providing American Home Shield with feedback about your most recent experience to have the heater repaired. I can understand your frustration with the delay and would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I've been with AHS for four years, but before Katrina, I was with them for 20 years. I like the idea that when I call them, they already have a list of companies to choose from and that they have already checked the companies out. Over the years, I’ve mostly had good contractors and some bad ones. Most of the time, my complaint is that they don’t come out or they may not come out soon enough. But lately, I’ve been getting appointments within the week. However, it sometimes takes a little while to get the part in. And a couple of times, I had a problem where they were waiting on the contractor to submit the paperwork to them.
In the past, I have a credit card on file but they did not charge you until the contractor came out. But lately, I’ve run into the problem where they wanna charge my card as soon as I call in for the service request. That should not be done because I haven’t gotten service from anyone yet. For instance, if they charge you and you don’t need the service, then you have to wait for about 7 days for them to do a refund to your card. Or sometimes, they might assign you someone who can’t come out and you gotta call them back to get another person.
I’ve had a time when they assigned me to one company, but that company had never contacted me. I wanted to be assigned to someone else, but they said they had to wait and contact that company to see what was the problem. Their policy is that someone will call in 24 to 48 hours to set up an appointment. So, if I haven’t heard from anyone, then I shouldn’t have to wait for them. Maybe that company is too busy and they haven’t notified AHS that they can’t take a call. AHS needs to just give me whoever is second in line or available. Other than that, I’ve had good service and experience with them overall.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you in an effort to make sure your issue is resolved.

PLM Appliance has been here for four times on the same issues with the refrigerator. I need to talk to somebody, but I am not sure how to do it because every time I have called, I only end up talking to somebody who says, "Yes. We'll have PLM Appliance come out." Those guys were good and they did a nice job, but they couldn't solve this problem and they have worked on it for three months already. They are hamstrung because they've tried everything they can try and it's not solving the problem.
The last conversation I had with the contractor about that was when the unit stopped making ice again and the freezer was intermittent. They said, "We had a conversation with American Home Shield and we think the only thing it can be is this water valve. That's the last thing we could change." So that was what was changed on Monday of this week and it is now Thursday, but it has not made any ice. What irritates me a little more is that Donny, the repairman, when he was here, he said that we would have their office call tomorrow and make sure everything was working. But, I haven't heard from them either.
This refrigerator has been a mess. When we built the house six years ago, it was brand-new. And KitchenAid, within the first year of its time, came out and did a compressor change because they said that the model had a compressor issue. And up until all this other stuff started going on six months ago, it has been okay. But now, the contractor have changed everything they could change and it is still what it was.
My son is an executive at Lowe's, and I asked him which warranty company we should pick and he said, "Well, I'd pick American Home Shield." They've been very good and very helpful, and this has been the only issue we've got. But it has been continual since the first time I reported it. AHS said when I bought the service, if they attempt to repair it and it doesn't get repaired, they will replace it. They, however, are taking too long to make a decision. We can't replace anything else on this refrigerator. The one criticism I do have of AHS is there doesn't seem to be any way, when you call their customer service people, to do anything other than schedule service -- or at least not that I found. You got to file another claim. It's getting a little tad irritating. We've already paid for more than 35% of the refrigerator in service calls.
I apologize for the inconvenience we have caused. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you in an effort to assist with resolving your issue. I look forward to connecting with you.

It was very easy to submit a claim. The contractors have been great. Everything went really well with our dishwasher claim. The contractor came out and fixed it right away and left. For our refrigerator claim, the only problem was that it seemed like it took forever for them to be able to come out and take a look at it and do the repair. They weren’t able to fix it. We had to wait for the part, and then they couldn’t come out for another week. That kinda sucked. Yesterday was when they finally fixed it. We were out of fridge for probably three weeks. It would have been nice to have a faster service. Other than that, they were professional when they came.

I would caution anyone from purchasing this warranty. We cancelled our within the first 30 days. We put in for 3 service requests. Rekeying - we paid $100.00 deductible, locksmith came. He was lovely and did his job and then asked for the remaining balance of $59.00. He said they pay up to $100.00. I paid the $100.00? I spent 2 hours on hold trying to get an answer about that. Second service request was for plumber. 8 days later still no appointment so I called them. They said they have no plumbers in my area but would "eventually" find someone. We have a leak and no hot water, not a good answer. At this point we decided to cancel as we are still within our 30 days. This process was terrible, I was put on hold over 6 times and transferred 5 times. I am still waiting for my $670.00 from agreement and $200.00 from deductibles they accepted and did no work on. Think twice before buying this warranty!

He explained everything to me and he did the job. He told me exactly what was going on and it worked perfectly. The switch that he put in there burned out again, so he had to come back and put a new one in. It’s under warranty for life so if anything goes wrong, they’ll come back out for free. Some of AHS' vendors are not the greatest in the world. I've had some issues with some of their plumbers and air conditioning people who have come out. Those guys didn't know what they were doing. My house flooded not too long after the last major plumber that I had came out. All my floors had to be replaced. That time, there was a leak in my kitchen faucet and he shut the water off to my kitchen for two weeks supposedly to order a new faucet. Originally, I thought that the leak was coming from the overflow from the air conditioning as that is a problem that I've had to have addressed multiple times.
When he came back the second time, he went directly to the air conditioning unit and said that there was something wrong with it. I asked him what he was doing as he wasn't even here for that issue. He was supposed to have a faucet and he was acting like he didn't have a clue what he was doing. He had a major attitude and told me that he would have to order a faucet. He told me that he didn't know how long it would take to get one. By that time, my dog was about to go after him and he acted like he was afraid. So, I ran down to Home Depot, picked up a faucet and did it. Two weeks after that, there was another leak. Evidently, there was a line underneath the cabinet that the plumber didn't mess with which should've been fixed at the same time.
More recently, my refrigerator was freezing up completely on both sides. I submitted a claim to AHS and they sent My Appliance Repair. The contractor's tech was very knowledgeable and I appreciated. They had to order parts and it took a week and a half for those to come in. After the techs replaced the parts, the refrigerator was throwing out error messages. So, I had to call them to come back and it took another four days for that. I appreciated that they sent the same tech because he knew what he was doing.
But then, the tech had to replace more parts the second time he came out. He said that basically, I have a brand-new refrigerator now because all the inside parts have been replaced. He also said the refrigerator I have is prone to having issues and that the manufacturer hasn't made an upgrade for it. Currently, everything has been working great. This latest claim was much easier to deal with.

Super Air came out to service the heater that doesn't work. They fixed it and it worked for a couple of days, and then it stopped working. They came back and it started working again. They checked it out and said that they had to change another part. They said they ordered the parts, but they have not come back yet and it has been more than a week already. The contractors that came out were good. They came on time and they did what they were supposed to do.
I've had coverage with American Home Shield for more than a year now. I've had a couple of claims before and everything was done so good. It took time to do it, but at the end of the day, they did what they were supposed to do. With my last two claims, they came and fixed it. They replaced one of my equipment and also fixed the other one. Now with the heater, we're still waiting and I don't know how long it's gonna take. But in general, everything has been good. I'm really happy with them.

We had a plumbing leak and a running toilet. AHS sent someone to check the leak. They weren't able to fix it because it wasn't covered under our home warranty, but they fixed the toilet. I did the claims online, and I don't think it could have been much easier. The contractor called me and set up the appointment. They were on time, polite and professional. It was really easy and everyone was very accommodating. I was really happy. It was the first time I had made a claim, and it went really smoothly.

I found submitting with AHS online to usually be easier. When we had a refrigerator replaced because they couldn’t replace the parts, it went easily. They gave me a website with recommendations that were comparable to the refrigerator that I had. I could’ve chosen from any one of those or have them send me a check, up to a certain amount, or submitted a receipt for one purchased locally. I chose to go with the one online because they had one for a price that I couldn’t beat locally. For our heating claim, Eagles HVAC came out. I was not here when they did, but my husband was. He said the contractor was professional and all business. We had no heat on our upper floor and had nothing on our thermostat upstairs. The contractor was able to repair it in one day. There was a breaker or fuse blown upstairs and a couple of other things that he fixed.
We are glad your HVAC issue was handled. Thanks for sharing your positive experience. We strive to make sure our consumers are well taken care of. Thanks.

I submitted a claim for a plumbing issue to AHS and went through an easy process. They sent Choice Plumbing and Heating and the techs from there were super efficient and helpful. They met my expectations. That time, the water was cut in a J-pipe and I didn't realize there were such pipes for the pipe coming out of the basement floor. The plumber flushed water through it and there was no backup. There was no problem and the issue was just inexperience on my part.

We had Home Shield a few years ago but we dropped them for several years because they irritated me with not covering things that should have been covered. We took them back up again when we moved into this home. And even here, I've had them come out multiple times for something that should have been fixed the first time, and it wasn't.
They have terrible customer service. There's a disconnect between who they send out and who is in their customer service center. I had an issue with our damper and they sent out a technician. He didn't know what he was doing so I ended up paying him the deductible and then the next year, we had the same exact problem 'cause he never fixed it. So we had to have another company come out hoping that they know what to do with this and pay again. I had to have three different companies come out for that one incident over the course of two years.
There needs to be a window after the repair is done, that if it happens again, they need to send someone back out. Also, I would personally like the option of choosing the company that comes out instead of them just sending someone. But for our recent claim, the contractor was quick to come out and quick to repair. He knew exactly what the problem was and fixed it the same day.

I used to have problems with American Home Shield, but I don’t have any problems with them now since I have the direct people. Before I’d gotten in touch with a higher authority, my experience was really bad that I was on the verge of cancelling and going to another company. My neighbor gave me another company to go with because I pay maybe 2000 a year for insurance on my rental property and they send you these people that ain’t experienced. And then, when you call to complain about them and ask for a supervisor, they won’t share any information. So, I had to dig deep to get in touch with the right people who I need to place complaints to.
So far, I’ve been getting my matters resolved. But I’m displeased with the companies they send to work on my appliances. They sent somebody to work on my microwave. I really don’t think the microwave needs replacement because it’s no more than four years old. But by them sending these company out twice, then it’s still the same thing going on. I just feel they need to get certified people, and not just anybody who say they have a license.
With the first group that came to fix the microwave, my husband asked how the tech knew about it. He said he watched somebody else work on the microwave. So, he didn’t have any experience. He was just going in there guessing what’s going on. The appliances I have is a set. I hate to break the set. So, it then got to the point now where they say I have to break the set because nobody’s making this microwave. Then, the microwave is somewhere far away, but that company doesn’t want to ship it way to me to keep my set going. I gotta get a whole microwave that’s not even a set to what I have, and I’m disgusted about that. My son also has a warranty with AHS and he has a lot of problems with them too.

I thought the hot tub was broken because all of a sudden, it just drained all the water out of it. Mountain View Pool & Spa came out and everything went fine. It ended up not being a problem. All it was was a loose connection. The tech was great and very helpful. I also had a water heater claim. And other than American Home Shield taking a month to get the right replacement water heater, everything went fine with the installation and the company that put it in. Luckily, our house has multiple water heaters. So, it wasn’t a huge inconvenience.

They got us on last time with our air conditioning unit upstairs, which was $9,000, and I didn't believe them. And then, I remembered I have American Home Shield. Submitting a claim with AHS was so easy. I called them and they sent Wilson out who said that we didn't need a whole new system. That was good news for us. Wilson HVAC was very good about what they did and even talked to my husband about it. Whatever they did, they fixed it. Three month saga. Bottom line I still don’t have a replaced disposal, have paid a fee twice and currently have standing water in my sink and a disposal that won’t work and has been failed for 3 months. Three months ago placed request. I told their “customer service specialist” the kitchen sink wasn’t draining, that I wasn’t sure why and that I thought it could be blocked or the garbage disposal could be the issue. Emphasis on “I don’t know”.
“Plumber” comes out and says it’s the garbage disposal but AHS didn’t write that down so he can’t replace it. That supposed plumber was an idiot. Didn’t even know how the shower faucet worked. Takes two weeks to get a new plumber out because at first AHS denies that it was their fault for not listing the words “garbage disposal” as if I’m supposed to be some kind of genius plumber? The CAUSE of the issue was the garbage disposal and I even mentioned that as a possible cause.
Anyway new plumber comes out, garbage disposal actually works when he’s here. Great. He says just, "Call and we will come back". For 2 months disposal stops and starts finally dies. Start calling AHS. For 5 days I place 8 calls (they like to put you on hold then hang up on you) just trying to get someone out to replace what should have been replaced in the first place. It’s still not fixed. I’ve been on today’s call for 21 minutes, haven’t been hung up on yet though. Enough time to look the, up, find a reviews site and type this review. They are horrible.

The claim for the heater was initially called in to American Home Shield on December 11th and the contractor, Best Care, has been out at least five times for a month. They ordered a part that was too big so Best Care couldn’t really do anything to fix the issue. They reimbursed me the 17.85 when I was gonna bring it up to code. The issue still stands and the heater is not fixed. I just want a new unit and it's pretty much on me.
The air conditioner went out last year and they kept repairing it until it got to the point this year where it just completely went out. They pretty much lifted up their hands. I just had a talk with them and they said if it can’t be repaired, the contract says to replace it. So, I’m thinking that the unit is for replacement, but they said they don’t pay for any of that in order to be replaced. I looked at my contract and I brought it to their attention. They just went silent and didn’t wanna go any further with it.

He inquired about what was the problem, diagnosed it, went in and took care of everything. He said it was fixed and if I had any more concerns, to let him know, and he left.
We got American Home Shield probably for about six to seven years now and their service was great. A lot of the warranty wear off on appliances and other things after a certain period of time. So, that is a good investment to have where you just pay the service fee, and then a technician comes out, so whatever that problem is, diagnoses it and then makes recommendations and then go and fixes the problem. Also, I haven't had any issues every time we file the claim.

The service provided by the contractor when he came out was great. He did everything he came out to do. He was very professional and everything that he did worked fine.
I dealt with AHS a lot with plumbing issues where the turn around was really fast. But for this claim, a different electrician was given to us and I could never get a hold of them. But this guy that we had that came out, it was a really quick turnaround. We're in a rural area so I'm not surprised that would happen sometimes where AHS couldn't find a provider. AHS could improve their customer service by bringing jobs back to America. I know when I called AHS I wasn’t talking to some Indians. But other than that, American Home Shield is great and we've had them for 4 or 5 years at this point. They helped us with our freezer that wasn’t making any ice. Then, when we were washing and as the washer was turning, it sounded like its basin was gonna fly out. We already had a guy out to check our freezer and he heard it. He said, “Oh, my god. What the heck is that noise?” And then he was like, “That’s broken.” So, of course, I called American Home Shield and Searle's Appliance came out and was awesome. The tech declared my washer dead so I got a new washer. Also, I got a new dishwasher ‘cause my dishwasher had died. And, the indicator light of my stove wouldn’t come off and so something had broken on my switches. It’s like when it rained, it poured. So, I have no complaints whatsoever.

American Home Shield is awesome. They sent A & B Electric Service and a guy came out. My pool pump was making noise. He did a check on everything from the fuse box, all the way to the other part of the house. Then he told me, "I think I need to prime this." I was standing there and he primed it, and when he turned it back on, there was no noise. I just started laughing because I knew better myself. But I've dealt with those guys for at least five different times and they've always been good. American Home Shield has a good thing with me, and I'm gonna stick with them for as long as I own my property. I purchased this home 11 years ago, and I've been with them since then.
There was one thing that was not in my contract. I had a light fixture in my kitchen, and the service provider came out, and he asked the representative from American Home Shield if he could go ahead and purchase it and do it and then they said no. So then I waited for like three months. And then I called and talked to somebody about it. She said, "Well, you should have called us and said that you needed it done." They sent out their informative paper about how to do things like say if I go to Lowe's or do a DIY. I noticed in that paper that they would cover it if I would have called them before. I'm thinking I was at fault, but at the same time, they were at fault as well because the contractor was here at that time. Everything was taken apart. And I was expecting to be finished, but I had paid the service fee already.
When the guy got ready to leave, he said, "They should have paid for this. It's no different than just like any other thing you asked for in here." Other than that, I had to call them because they were only taking like 30 some dollars away from my account for my monthly payment. I had to call them in November of 2019 because I was noticing that the pool paper wasn't coming out. And when I spoke to the lady, I got the letter stating that they made a mistake to my billing. But they didn't come back and try to recharge me for the difference in the amount. So, I love them!

AHS always calls you, appointments are set up quick, and somebody is usually out within a few days. I call AHS when I have a claim. The claim for the AC unit took a while. But the guy who came out was very professional and very nice. There was a miscommunication between him and the technicians who had ordered the part, and when they received it, it wasn’t programmed, so he had to take it back. He had to remove it from the unit, take it back, get it redone again, and then come back. So it took a little longer than expected, but it’s working fine. The heat is working. I haven’t had any issues since.
Submitting the claim was real easy. I’ve done it online before, but this time around, I called because I was unsure as to what to put down as what I needed. I feel more comfortable talking to a person than putting it in the system as I didn’t know exactly how to word it. Home Shield was very fast at getting the technicians to come out here. I tried to call the contractor first, and I had to leave a few messages before, but since they never contacted me back, I contacted Home Shield. Once Home Shield contacted them, they called me right away to schedule the appointment. But other than that, I didn’t have any issues. Home Shield was awesome. I upgraded my policy this year because I wasn’t aware that my small appliances were not included on the one I had prior.

I bought American Home Shield policy for my parents. When we had a claim for the air condition where they had to replace the entire compressor and the unit inside, they reimbursed us for the compressor. But when they put in the unit upstairs, they were trying to fit pipes that didn't go together. There was a water leak that resulted in damages that they had to pay us for. We also had another AC unit upstairs in my parents’ house where the guy looked at it and said, “It looks like it’s old.” And then he went outside and didn't open it. He just came in and said, “A rat chewed through your wires. That’s what's wrong with it.”
When my dad went back out and opened it up, there were no exposed wires, nothing where a rat chewed through the wire to burn anything up, and they just declined the claim. It was a horrible experience with that vendor. AHS said that it’s the only vendor that they work with. I’ve tried to call that vendor a couple of times with my parents and they only said that they were gonna come out. They always came back out, but they were a mess. The first time they brought out the HVAC unit, it was blowing water all over the place. The tech said, “It needs to be retrofitted.” So, they tried to retrofit it while they were out there instead of just getting the correct piece to put in the unit.
I had a policy for a long time too and it was more of a payment plan. Typically, they're charging $125 deductible every time they come out, which is basically a service fee. So, by the time I pay in the monthly $50 and the $125 service fee, they’ll always try to figure out how just to repair the item. Even if they have to repair it 10 times, they’ll repair it 10 times before they’ll try to replace it. So, they cost you more money in service fees than if you were just to have paid for it on your own. Because the whole game is to just try to repair it as much as they can, and they will not acquiesce to replacing it even though it takes three or four visits to figure out that it still can be paid. By then, you’re into $500 or $600, and it’s cheaper just to buy a new unit from the beginning.
AHS really don’t have the most knowledgeable people that are doing repairs. So, we’re just gonna have to cancel everything because it’s just a waste of time to have their vendor go out there. And when you bring up something with a vendor, instead of them looking into it, they don’t. They wanna always protect the vendor, which is dangerous to them to be in that situation, considering the vendors have done water damage, not replacing things to code, etc.
I apologize for the inconvenience as I can certainly understand your frustration. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you in an effort to assist with resolving your issue. I look forward to connecting with you.

Our washing machine's pump went out. It wouldn’t fill properly. I called American Home Shield, and two different people came out. An older guy did the evaluation of what it was, and then a younger fellow did the actual repair. Both seemed skilled at what they were doing. They replaced parts and it works. They did well.

There was grease buildup in my dishwasher one time and I submitted a claim to AHS for it. Water was running onto the floor and I was concerned that the issue was something with the pump. Reliable Appliance Repair was sent and the tech from there was able to diagnose it. I've been putting a little Drano or Clorox into the drain system of the sink and so far, I haven't been having any problems. I'm pleased with the service of AHS and its contractor.
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback regarding the dishwasher. We are pleased to know that the issue was well taken care of. We understand grease build up can develop an issue that can cause further issues along the way. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

AHS charged me 75 dollars to send a contractor - the contractor looked at the issue and told me that they basically cannot work on the issue or fix it, since it would not be covered by AHS. So basically you pay the policy premium to AHS hoping that when an unknown issue pops up, you will have the coverage. Instead, AHS charges you $75 (on top of your annual premium) for someone to come in and tell you that they cannot really resolve the issue because AHS would not cover it. Isn't it complete fraud on AHS part? I am never buying any policy from this company.

I had a wiring problem in my home, which was covered under my contract and I was assured by the CSR that it was as well. The serviceman showed up, did no work, and I was still charged $100, and I still have the same issue as before, except now I am unable to turn on ANY of the lights in my hallway. After arguing with the warranty company they said any fault in the wiring caused by a service provider (duh, wires don't sprout out of thin air), they will not cover it. You could burn your money for heat, to get more use out of it than this company will provide you. Avoid them at all costs if you want actual customer service.

I recently had American home shield as my home warranty. I live in Florida and on Christmas my air-conditioning decided to not work. It was very hot I could not get someone to come in here for about a week and then after that I kept getting hung up on the phones after. Finally they sent someone here. This was the third time somebody came for this air-conditioning and they constantly told me I needed Freon. They kept avoiding to replace this unit. All they keep doing is trying to put a Band-Aid on it. I have two little kids that I’m bringing up and my mom who is 91 and they were no help to me so then I was canceled. Before I was canceled in reimbursed I ended up putting in a brand new unit and had to pay out of my pocket. So I don’t see what’s the sense of having a home warranty if they’re not going to honor the product that was broken and needed to be replaced. They did nothing for me. Thank you and have a blessed day

When Price Right came out, they did a tremendous job on this order. They did good. When I call and I need service, American Home Shield's contractors always come out and take care of the problem. I've had a problem with my sink before. The contractor came out and replaced the new sink that I had with no problem. I also had them come out to take care of my dryer, and everything has been working in good condition. The dishwasher has been working good, too. I tell people to get AHS. It's worth it.
Great Owen!We are happy to hear your dishwasher is resolved. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing week.

My wife and I finally decided to get a Home warranty. We chose American Home Shield because of the ratings. Everything was fine until I had to make a claim for a repair. ((Prior to calling them I had called another company out to inspect the garage door opener. He did a total inspection and said I needed to have the motor replaced.)) So I called and tell them I need to make a claim for my garage door opener. They took their 100.00 and then sent someone out. They sent me a message who would be coming out. The first time I had to cancel them coming out because I had to work overtime. So they set up another appointment. Then I got a call from the company on the day of the appointment telling me that they cannot have someone come out because they didn't have anyone to come look at my garage door opener. So I figured ok make another appointment.
I get another call telling me they can be there earlier but not the time I had scheduled them for. So I had to make another appointment. When all this happened I called the warranty people each time. All I got was a run around and some lame excuses. I even asked about choosing my own repair company and they didn't want to let me do that even though it says that can be done. All I got were excuses why I cannot choose my own repair company. Finally someone shows up. The guy they sent opens the garage door and taps on the garage door motor. Then he says "I cant find anything wrong with it." I told him the door has an intermittent problem and will not work all the time. I even showed him what the other repair company had wrote out on the invoice. So he repeated the same thing that he cant find anything wrong. This clown didn't have a clue how to do his job.
He didn't do any type of inspection other than tap on the side of the motor and open the door. So I told him to leave since he was basically useless. I called the warranty people again and told them what happened and that I was not happy with the way things have been handled. I asked to speak to a manager / supervisor each time and all I got was a runaround. They kept making excuses for not letting me talk to a manager / supervisor. I finally got someone in the resolution dept. They told me that they would have the company come out again but they said they would tell them to send someone with more experience. I was told I would get a call / email letting me know when they would be able to come out. I never got any type of contact and that's when I finally had enough.
I called and canceled my contract with them today. All of a suddenly they wanted to help me and made me all kinds of offers to keep me from leaving. They told me they would give me back my 100.00 and let me choose the company to take care of my garage door. I told them I have had enough of their lousy customer service and I am not paying them another cent. If they would have let me use the repair company I had come out first then I would not have cancelled my contract. Now if this had happened after being with them for a few years I could almost understand this type of customer service. But I only had them since October of 2019. So as of January 2020 I canceled them. I will never recommend them to anyone. So I do not recommend using American Home Shield.

Both water heaters were leaking, we had water come down through the ceiling, leaving the ceiling a mess. So along with the rusty water ceiling damage, we have video of the water leaking from tops of both heaters, along with heavy corrosion around connection into heaters. We shut the water off and called Home Shield. The plumbers came out and couldn't find 'evidence of a leak'. We explained that it has been leaking, and showed them all the evidence we have. They said they still couldn't do anything unless it was actually pouring out.
I had then spoken to a reputable plumbing company, who tell me due to pressure build up, it may not be evidently leaking all of the time. After a few days it starts leaking again, so we call home-shield again, and tell them they are leaking, and we need someone out quickly so they can see the leak. Well the plumbers can't of course come out straight away because they have 'other customers'. My wife asks them if they can prioritize us, and the lady on the phone says, 'well do you want me to call all our customers and ask if we can put you first?' My wife asks 'are you actually going to do that that?' and the lady on the phone says 'no I'm lying to you'. So home-shield send another plumber out, but again it's too late to catch the pressure build up. Same deal, can't do anything unless we have actual mechanical failure. So while I do understand they need to make sure customers aren't trying to get something for nothing we have:
1. Prior evidence of the leak with both damage and video and pictures of water leaking.2. $60 dollars a month for the past 6 years we have been paying.
3. Terrible attitude and service from the plumbers they sent out.
4. Home-shield don't warranty damage, so they want us to wait until our kitchen is turned into a swimming pool before we can get these things replaced.
And finally to top it all off, the plumber on his paperwork, writes 'RECOMMEND REPLACING WATER HEATERS DUE TO CONDITION'. Seriously Home Shield, you should be ashamed. Cancelling contract.
Good afternoon Aaron,
Thank you providing American Home Shield with feedback about your most recent experience to have the water heaters repaired. I can understand your frustration with the delay and would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

But then, I thought he would put in new PVC. Instead, he put a stopgap where the leak was. Still, my sink has been working fine. I had let time get away from me when the guy from MJS Mechanical Service was coming out. They had a 10-minute window where they’d call but I had my phone on silent and I didn’t hear him. I had already been without heat for two days. He said he’ll have to cancel. I was pretty emotional about it. The thought of going without heat for another day just tore me up. He ended up calling me back and saying that he was able to work me in, even though it was in policy that they didn’t do that. I was very pleased with that. Then, he came back two more times in the next couple of days. The heater’s been working great ever since. I haven’t had a problem with it. The company should keep that guy around. Moreso, AHS should keep using that company to contract to.

I have a 42-year-old dryer. I have never had anyone come over to my house to fix it except for one time and that was because I had my credit card in my pocket and it was making this clicking sound. The contractor charged $50 to come over to take it out. He also had to go back and order a part. He came back a couple of days later and fixed it. Majority of my appliances have been that old. In the last year with American Shield, I had an old stove. At that time, it was about 34 years old and they replaced it because the company doesn't make the parts anymore. Even the company has been dissolved. So when the guy came over and fixed the dryer, I was more than happy because I didn't want to have to buy a new one. I was jumping for joy. I was excited. He did a wonderful job and I’d highly recommend him. Although I was told that if I have a motor problem, he won't be able to help me.
One time, my husband had an air conditioner in another city where he had a house and we had under separate contract. AHS said they sent a check to my address but they had the wrong address, the wrong number. They were supposed to send it back but they sent it to his home address which is 75 miles away. He made it clear to send it to our house where we live because that was being rented out. That went on for two whole months. I said, "I'm not paying you until I get the $300 you owe me." They couldn't find anybody in the area to do the work for him, so I didn't pay for two months. And since I have not gotten the check, I started looking for another service. And so, I wasn't paying for it.
I called them up and said, "I just got the check and it passed. I got it in my checking account. It's good to go. But I don't want your service if you have to behave like this and I have to wait for my money." They said, "Why don't we keep you and we'll give you the next one, which is this one, free visit. We won't charge you the $100." I said, "Are you sure you're not gonna do that?" She said, "No, ma'am, we're not gonna do that." Guess what they did? And this is a daily thing for me. Every time I look at an appointment, I have to fight for my life upstream. I called the lady up and she said, "It shows that you have to pay though." I then asked for a supervisor. I had gotten a bill for $108 and I said, "I'm not paying it." And I never got another bill. So, the left hand doesn't always know what the right hand is doing.
AHS needs to get their paperwork straightened out. When I said, “We sent you a letter, we faxed it, we mailed, we did all of it,” They said, "I'm sorry, we never got it." Someone's not doing their job. They need to improve their customer service a bit. I'd still recommend them though because they always come up with the job and get it done right or replace the object. I'm proud of that and I'm proud to tell people this is a good product.
We do apologize for any inconvenience, however we are pleased to know you enjoy using the service. Thanks for sharing your experience with us and we do appreciate your feedback.

The gentleman from Patriot Plumbing checked the hot water heater and said that something was tripping a breaker, which I have no knowledge of what was going on. He fixed everything and left. But two days later, exactly the same thing went on. I tried getting ahold of them. Then I tried calling American Home Shield and they supposedly sent Patriot Plumbing an email. I called them on a Friday and never received any response. Thursday of the following week, Patriot Plumbing came back and the same gentleman checked all the electronics again, and he said he didn’t seem to see anything wrong. I told him it trips the breaker every day. So he turned around and he replaced two thermostats. Since then, we’ve had plenty of hot water.
I’ve had my microwave worked in by American Home Shield, and they sent a company that dealt with the stoves. We also submitted a claim when the washing machine stopped working. I called American Home Shield and filed a thing to have something worked on, and the same company came back because they're local in the area. I was very happy. The gentleman walked in, fixed the problem, and said, “You have a nice day, sir,” and he was out the door.
When I call the American Home Shield number, I do not get anybody in the United States of America. I talk to somebody in Bangladesh or in India. I request to speak to somebody in the United States and they keep telling me they couldn't do that. I have a hard time understanding people speaking another dialect. I tried to look for a number that I could call that I could speak to somebody in the United States. But when I call that 1866 number, it could go anywhere in the world. When I finally requested to speak to a manager, the rep told me that she would have to call me back, and she hung up on me. So my one big complaint is that American Home Shield does not have a response center that we can talk to in the United States.
I feel comfortable that all of my appliances and my home is protected by American Home Shield. But I feel very uncomfortable where American Home Shield is using the word “America” but they have people throughout the world answering their phones because it’s cost-effective for them. When I was talking to a person from India, her use of the American language was fine. But you need to also understand that I’m not used to speaking to people from India, so that makes it kinda difficult. I’m very satisfied with American Home Shield with repairing of my products. But I’m dissatisfied with the fact that you can’t contact somebody in the United States. You're dealing with somebody out of the United States. Some of these phone calls that are picked up by these people are probably at a house because I could hear kids playing in the background. So it wasn’t going to an office space whereas you could get a manager.

The guy from Ace’s Garage Door was very informative, very nice, and respectful. I had an electrical claim and when he got here, it was working. So, I’m thinking, when I pushed it, I must have not held it down completely. And so, I paid $75 to have him come out and it was working. I’ve had several claims with AHS since I’ve moved in. I had the garage door claim, the washer and dryer claim, and two different plumbers came out.
The gentleman that came from Sears for the washer was an elderly man. He was a little grumpy, which I didn't care for his attitude. I thought he hadn’t fixed it correctly because it wasn’t working right, but what it was is that there was a leak with the water valve. He turned it off and when you turn it off, then the washer doesn’t work correctly. And he didn’t explain that to me. When he left, I was trying to wash and it kept on turning off. So, I called AHS back and I told them, “Look, I don’t want the same person to come out here ‘cause I didn’t like his attitude. He was, basically, really rude at the beginning.” He got over his rudeness, but he made me feel very uncomfortable in my house. Other than that, I told my daughter about AHS. She’s buying a home out in Texas. She’s looking into AHS, and I told her that I’ve had good response from them.

For close to 20 years, we've been with American Home Shield and I like the ease of picking up the phone and calling them when I have an issue. I do not have to worry about spending hundreds of dollars, which is done upfront in order to pay for the privilege of having American Home Shield. For the most part, it’s been smooth. What I don’t like is, there was one time in particular where it took weeks to get something taken care of. It was a toilet issue and it was a big deal. Sometimes, it’s not that easy to get someone on a repair as fast as we would like. So, the communication could be improved. We also had one situation where we had a little bit of a misunderstanding. We thought something was covered and they said it wasn’t, and then they sent someone back saying, “It was covered.” Still, the contractors have been overall good. Precision Door Services came out for the garage door in a recent claim and everything went smoothly.

The guy who came was telling the very young one what to do. Immediately he knew a part needed to be replaced and they replaced it really quick. They were checking to see that thing was running, but they didn’t realize when they left that it would leak. I didn’t know as well until it started coming out from underneath the sink. And so we had to have them again, and they sent someone else out. He must have known it was a PVC pipe because he came in with it. He was in and out, 15 minutes, and fixed the leak.
American Home Shield was good. But the contracting company not so much because I had to call several times or a couple of days before I got somebody. And there was a crying baby, and the young woman don’t even sound old enough to have a baby. She’s also got the language down part. It’s like she memorized it and maybe they were doing another home.

The contract is confusing with regard to gas fireplaces. The contract specifically excludes "Fireplace, grain, pellet, coal, or wood heating units (even if only source of heating)." Gas fireplaces are not listed as excluded; however, the company verbally advises that they are not covered???
Good Morning Michael,
Thank you for your feedback. We know that the terms of the contract can be confusing at times. However, if an item is not listed on the contract at all, then it is not covered. Also, because fireplaces are listed, that does include all types of fireplaces.

Furnace manifold inop in October 2019. It's January 2020 and still no heat. They ignored the technician they sent's recommendation on the replacement part, ordered the incorrect/incompatible unit anyway. Still do not have the part required for my furnace to operate and the technician stated he could have had it within a day or two. I have no clue what is going on with my status right now. Customer service constantly gives the run around about status. Last time I talked to a CSR, they told me not to call back and that they would get back to me when they had an update. Meanwhile, we're cold. Stay away from this company!
Good morning Edward,
I hate to hear about your most recent experience with American Home Shield to have the furnace repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

We bought an older home and without knowing how well it was cared for we wanted the piece of mind that a home warranty 'should' give. We decided on AHS because of their name recognition and also reviews. I've now noticed that on their website they have only great reviews, hmmmm! I've also found other sites have great reviews, but I am unable to leave a review, wondering if those reviews are pulled from their website? So, when I signed up, I wanted 'bumper to bumper' coverage. I did indeed ask all the right questions on being covered, and paid for the annual fee. Last week we called AHS for a weird sound our furnace was making. They sent out a company that I know scams people, and I had had 1st hand experience with this company trying to scam me. This was a really bad first impression for AHS, having a contract with a shady HVAC company.
The company came out and said we needed a new furnace, it was/is 24 years old, so nothing shady about that. IMMEDIATELY the technician told me that AHS would cover a comparable furnace, but they wanted to upgrade me to a more reliable furnace. Now, mind you our home is a top of the line home and top of the line builder, so I know the furnace was a great to excellent grade furnace. I immediately told the tech that we had no interest.
Later when AHS called they told me that the furnace would be covered, but all 'modifications' would be out of pocket for us, at the tune of $1446, OUCH! These are necessary things, because the new furnace was a little different sized. Now, not only did I think my AHS warrant covered a furnace 100%, I had asked all the right questions when I 1st called in about the warranties offered.
I was 'a little' upset about this, but what can I really do? Nothing! So, the company comes and installs the new furnace, which is NOT really comparable to our old furnace, but again, what can I do? I don't even think the new furnace is the same specs, which AHS HAS to do. Then I find out that the HVAC company didn't even do one of the major 'modifications' it charged me for. I called AHS and asked for the itemized list of charges for the modifications and they claimed they would send me that, but I still haven't received it! I want to know the exact amount, because I only expect a refund for the part they did not do.
AHS has started a complaint against the HVAC company, so we'll see how this goes. AND I found out that the HVAC co that came out is on again, off again with AHS all the time, which AHS denies, but the techs confirmed. Do yourself a favor and find a better home warranty company. Wish I knew who that was, but I think most of them are scams, at this point!
Mrs. Coff,
I apologize that your experience with us was not satisfactory. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

First plumber came out and inspected the house and had heard the water leak. He advised me that he need to go through my kitchen in order to fix the leak. In the contract it states that customer must provide access, which in fact I did. I showed the plumber that I had a crawl space. Plumber saw it and said that it was too small for home. However not to worry, he'll report this to American Home Shield.
Few days later, American Home Shield contacted me and advised me that they have found a smaller guy and that they will send him out. Guy came out and did a thorough inspection and pointed out that the leak in front of my house needs to be fixed. That included the water pressure regulator. I showed him the crawl space access. He went inside about half way and reported to me that he does not have enough space and that he needed to go through the kitchen. He had asked me how much I liked my kitchen floor. I responded to him that I like it very much. He assured me that he will report this to American Home Shield and also not to worry.
About few days later, on a Monday 01/13/2020, I contacted American Home shield and had asked what's the status. The Agent replied stating that they'll cover the water pressure regulator. However the leak underneath the house, I would have to hire a contract and have that contractor create an access for their plumber to fix the leak and that I would get a cash reimbursement. I suggested a solution by hiring my licensed contractor that would not have to dig through my kitchen and utilize the access that I initially provided in lieu of the contract.
My contractor came out, he's a much larger individual than the both contractors whom American Home Shield sent and that he can be able to fit in the crawl space and fix the problem. I reported this finding to American Home Shield and advised a solution that would be cost effective. Agent then advised me to go ahead and to advised me that the cash out department would contact me within 24 hours. This was Monday 01/13/2020. My contractor came out the next day 01/14/2020 and fixed all the problem and gave the invoice for the repairs.
Today 01/15/2020 I contacted American Home Shield to voice a concern since I had not heard from them in over 24 hours that they initially had stated. I was on the phone close to an hour and had learned that the cash out was only for $110, meanwhile I had paid this contractor $740. I had escalated this matter to one of American Home Shield Acting Supervisor Raul, Operator ID: ** had advised me that American Home Shield have agreement with local plumbers and that they would not have charged this amount and therefore I'm on my own. I explained to Raul where I stood, and that this was a bad practice on American Home Shield, sending lousy plumbers that would not want to go through Crawl space in order to fix my problem for reasons of space being too small.
Meanwhile, My contractor whom is much larger than both was able to fit through and fix the problem. The other plumbers wanted me to tear out my kitchen. That would have costed me $$$$ Thousands of dollars, though I'm providing access whom a much larger plumber doesn't seem to have any problem going in there and fixing the problem. When I had bought my house back in 2012 I had a similar problem that which I had contacted American Home Shield and they sent a guy out that accessed my crawl space and fixed the problem. Now it's a different story. After I had received a go ahead come to learn that they'll only pay me $110 rather than what I had paid. While American Home Shield continue to go through their rolodex of plumbers, meanwhile my water continues to skyrocket.

My air conditioner quit working and I was told that I needed a new one. If I had AHS at the time, they would have fixed it and it would have been fine. A year later, the compressor went out and it wasn't under warranty, so I had to pay another $1,000 for that. So, it was sad that I didn't have AHS before, but I've got it in my condo and my house. Lately, it seems like they've gotten a whole lot better, too. Submitting a claim with them used to be unbelievable. You'd call and wait 45 minutes to get through to anybody at American Home Shield. But with the last two claims I had, my experience have been really good. When I called them, they answered right away and that's really important. Also, the people they sent out have done what they said they would.
Recently, I had a plumbing issue and they sent out a tech from Home Choice Services. There was a small leakage in the toilet and he did something and fixed it. He also told me not to turn it that tight to prevent the same problem from happening and he was done in 30 minutes. Other than that, whenever he came out, he showed up when he was supposed to. He was a nice guy, too.
Good afternoon Hardy,
We strive to provide you with a great team of contractors and an even better customer service experience. We hope you continue to enjoy your AHS warranty!

My experience with my heating claim with AHS wasn't very good. They don't pay what they should. I can't see why I have to pay all that crap to them. They said I gotta pay $2,000 to get anything done. I don't have $2,000 as I wouldn't be carrying insurance if I had that money.
I apologize for the inconvenience as I can certainly understand your frustration. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you in an effort to assist with resolving your issue. I look forward to connecting with you.

The water was running through the toilet constantly. Then, that stopped, and there was no water at all. The guy from Circa Mechanical came out and did fantastic. From the time I put in the claim to getting someone there was a little bit challenging. The first day, the guy was supposed to come out between 12:00 and 5:00. It was 8 o’clock in the evening before I got a call, and I couldn’t take the person at that point. But the person that they sent out on the second day was fantastic. I just wish I get a quicker response time from the vendor that AHS contracts with, and then have them follow through with the time frame when they said they're gonna be there. I've been with American Home Shield for 16 years. I'm trying to save myself potentially high expense if something goes out and it saved me some money, so I kept them.
Good afternoon Eric,
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.
