    My parents told me that American Home Shield is worth having. So I got it some time last year. I thought I would use it if I needed it and true enough, I ended up needing it for my garage because I was kinda trapped in the house. The commercials are really funny but you really do feel like, “Oh god, I have to get a new garage,” or “Oh no, something happened.” So it feels good to kinda have a sense of security there, to know that it’s like a phone call and somebody will come out and look at it for you. The claims process was super easy too. I did it from my cell phone. I just went in and told them that I needed to service my garage. I paid the deductible and it was good to go.

    I did the claim back in December but I wasn’t able to coordinate with Magic City Doors and to get a time. I was able to get back in contact with them afterwards and I ended up having to get the claim resent. When I called back again to Home Shield, they were on it very quickly. That same day, I was able to get appointment scheduled for the next day. Magic City Doors came out and did a great job of looking at it. They ended up replacing the actual garage door motor. The guy that I had, Jamie, was really nice and very professional. It was a really good experience so overall, I’m super happy.

    There were a couple of problems with the dishwasher. The soap dispensing part was not functioning and then the upper tray was getting stuck. American Home Shield normally requires to wait for a day or two for things to happen, and I call them immediately after I had an issue, then I found out that Appliance Wizard was the company and they set me up within pretty much the next working day. I was not aware of it, so they came the day after that. Then three days later, they got the part. It couldn't have been easier and faster than that, especially when they didn't have the part. The guy was very nice. This is the second time he came. He came at the end of the day. He must've been tired where he worked and finished the job in no time. Overall, American Home Shield is great.

    I had an issue with my oven. I went online and submitted a claim with AHS. At first, I was a little confused on how to set up the claim for the services on their website and I had to go through two different things before I could actually get to the part where I had to do the filling out of the information. They should have a more easier way to go into making the claim. Other than that, I was notified about the people who were gonna come out and they came quicker than I thought. They were also very professional and I really like them. I asked them if they do any other service and they said they do everything. I hope AHS sends out their company again because I don't like dealing with a lot of different people coming in to my home. So, if AHS doesn't send them next time, I’ll recommend that they just send the same company to me.

    Overall, my experience with AHS has been excellent. In the past years, I had them then we ended up discontinuing because I was going through a lot of different life changes. That’s why I was so adamant about trying to get them back. American Home Shield is helpful especially when you can’t afford to contract some big company to come out to look at certain things. They give you peace of mind and communicate with you. They also guarantee that someone’s gonna come out and it’s gonna be somebody who’s gonna be efficient and trustworthy. You're gonna get your money's worth in their services, and in how they professionally conduct the sales with you and treat you as a customer.

    I usually submit my claims online with AHS. Their website could be a little bit better to maneuver and the basic logistics of the site should be improved. When putting in the actual problem, sometimes, it’s generalized. They have another tab there but sometimes, that’s not always clear on what problem you should click. That’s not always definite, especially with the plumbing. And when calling American Home Shield directly, it feels like I’m calling China. The ladies that answer the phone don’t know what I’m talking about and I never have any verbal resolve when I call them. It’s like they don’t speak English and they have no problem-solving skills. I just do everything online as best I can because if there’s any kind of issue, calling them is not the answer because they’re just gonna quote some policy to try to get me off the phone.

    One time, there was a leaking pipe under the sink and AHS sent out Service Mechanical of Tidewater to fix it. They were professional, skilled, and we had no problems with them. But we had another contractor out yesterday, Price Right Plumbing, and I do not want to do business with them again. The problem was at a rental property that I have, and the tenant called and told me that the toilet was not flushing. It appeared to be clogged. So, I put in the service request and they scheduled it for the next day. Then the service technician came out and apparently, the clog had resolved itself. But while he was there, there was also pipe that was leaking under the kitchen sink. He looked at it, told the tenant that he couldn’t do anything about it, and just walked out the door and left. The tenant was very upset because she didn’t understand what was going on and she did not know that this was through a home warranty.

    So, I called Price Right Plumbing and the young lady told me that they did not have a service request for the pipe, which I understand. But we have had contractors before and if something came up while they were there that wasn't on the initial request, either their office would call American Home Shield or I could go back online and put in another service request for that company. But Price Right Plumbing's tech didn’t call me as the owner of the property and I was displeased because the $100 service charge was for nothing.

    So, I told the young lady at Price Right Plumbing that I would expect some type of business courtesy, as the owner, that they all would call me. I could have done what I had to do for logistics’ sake. The tech was there and the other problem just required a tightening of the pipe. It wasn’t anything that you needed a lot of parts for and even if it did, he just walked out and did not address it. But the young lady in the office verified that he did the right thing and that that was what he was supposed to do. So, there’s no professionalism. She also just told me that I had to call American Home Shield like I’m stupid. Price Right Plumbing do a disservice to American Home Shield and they just don’t care.

    Beside that, overall, I’m satisfied with AHS. I am not happy with that incident yesterday but over the past year with multiple properties, we’ve had other contractors come out and we’ve had some very good ones that I would hire independent of American Home Shield because they were professional and stood by their work.

    My claim about a plumbing issue is still open. The young man from NW Sundance Services who came to my door described what he was there for, and asked permission to come in the house and take a look at the plumbing that was an issue. I brought him in and he went right to work, looked at the plumbing issue, and immediately diagnosed it for a torn hose that runs from a water valve up through the faucet. He tried two different ways. He had one hose that he thought might work, which it didn’t. And then he said, “What I can do is to let this water that is leaking down into one place where you can put a basin to catch the water, but you’re gonna have to dump it as it fills up. I’ve written this up, I’ve ordered the hose. I don’t know how long it will take, but as soon as we get the replacement hose in, we’ll come out and put it in for you, and close out the issue.” So, that’s where I stand.

    All the work that I’ve done with American Home Shield over the years has been as good as anyone of them that has come out and has done the work for us. The young man was efficient, as professional as could be, pleasant and showed me everything that he could show me so that I understood what was going on. In that case and in previous cases with other people who’ve been referred to me by American Home Shield, they gave the best. My daughter and son-in-law have American Home Shield. I recommended to my son down in Northern California that he see what he can do to get AHS too for his new house. I recommended highly that they talk to American Home Shield.

    I've had American Home Shield for 15 years now. I'm a realtor and I've been using them, and I have good customer service with them, so I stuck with them. It's quick to get return and get stuff done with them. They're quick in assigning the people and they always call within 24 hours. And for the most part, the contractors are pretty good. But if I'm not getting good customer service and if I have my clients complain, I call AHS and let them know that their contractor is not good. Recently, I called in for my recirculator and they did a great job. It was nice, quick and easy.

    The toilet was running and then it would stop and then it was running and it would stop. It was going all day and night. It was really annoying. I filed a claim online with AHS and the guy they sent was very nice. He came exactly when he said he was gonna come and solved the problem. He looked at it and said, "Oh, I know what the problem is." He replaced the innards of the toilet and it has worked fine since. I’m pleased with it.

    We've been with American Home Shield for two years now since we've been here. My daughter had it in the past. She was the one that recommended it. We had a claim regarding our heater that when we would turn it on, it wouldn’t do anything. Then we turn it off and we turn it back on, and then it would kick on and it would just make the noise like it was doing something but it wasn’t doing anything. That would go on four times. And finally, it would kick in most of time, but it took several attempts to do it. And it was because the relay between the unit and box itself was bad, so they had to replace it. There were no difficulties submitting the claim. When I call, they get the $100 from me. It's a little steep. And then they call me back after a little bit to tell me who’s coming out. Two different companies came out when I had a problem with my air conditioner and heater, and I had no problem with either one.

    Metropolitan came out for the heater that kept on going out. They were excellent people and did a super job. They came out twice. The first time was about 2 months ago. They cleaned up and did a whole something in it. But it continued doing it so I called them back. They came back and didn’t charge me. They replaced something and it worked.

    About 6 months ago, I had a pool problem with my pump, and that took a long time for the contractor to come out. Then the guy that came out gave me the runaround. Finally, I was able to figure it out myself, and that was out of the way. But I’ve had other stuff with American Home Shield, and I’ve had no problems. The contractor usually comes within a reasonable time. Within a week, you get somebody out and they do whatever they have to do. I would like it the same day or the next one, but they can’t.

    The policy is not cheap. But several years ago, I had a problem with the oven at the house, and they couldn’t get the part. The oven was white, and they could get a part that was black. We said, “No. It’s gotta be white, period.” They changed and gave me a whole new oven. That’s reasonable. Either find the part or solve it. And they solved it by giving me a whole new oven.

    American Home Shield could get more people so that they can come out faster. You have to be a little bit smart, too. They’ll give you a service company, and if you don’t call up the service company and ask them, all of a sudden, you may realize that the service company is two, three hours away, and they don’t wanna drive two, three hours. So, you have to call Home Shield to ask where is the service company located. I’ve gotten one that was literally three hours away and the guy didn’t even call me to say, “No, I’m not gonna go out.” American Home Shield has gotta figure out a system in which their service guy has gotta be within a reasonable distance from wherever the claim is. Other than that, I don’t have major problems with them.

    The heater was malfunctioning and Metropolitan Heating and Air Conditioning came out to fix it. It worked fine for about a week, and then something mechanical started. It sounded like an airplane taking off and it was something banging on the casing of the heater. But it took them no more than 20 minutes to replace the part and they fixed it. They did fine, just too bad they had to come back out again.

    So basically you are paying $65-75 a month and then $100 call out fee to have your repair company come to your home. Service is great scheduling and taking your $100 up front. Anything on top of that they will not cover. We had a supposed gas leak at our house, and to diagnose the Plumbing company had to cut the line outside to test the pressure. Now AHS is saying that they won't cover that. We are also having to come "up to code" on a lot of items that we were not expecting to, all to fix a valve that came loose and "may" have been causing the gas smell. We also have a leak near our hot water heater and they are not paying to "remove" the hot water heater to look at the leak. We are now looking at $1000 in repairs out of pocket. Not happy at all. Would have been better off saving the money I pay in premiums to save away towards repairs such as this that I am now paying out of pocket anyways.

    Horrible experience. The technician visited my house on 1/24/20 to inspect / fix my dryer. He wasn't experienced enough and could not identify the issue. What was strange was he suggested we "google" and find a contractor who could fix. It has now been 12+ days since he visited and until today (2/6/20) the contractor has not submitted the service report. At least that is what is being claimed by American Home Shield (AHS). I have been calling them every day over the last 8 days (every day) and every time they say they have escalated to the Vendor Relationship Management Team who are trying to resolve the problem.

    Since the last 3 days I have been asking them for authorization to engage a contractor (on my own) so that the dryer can be fixed. I have clothes all over my house which are wet and the place is a mess. AHS will not authorize and myself to go ahead and engage a sub-contractor and keeps on stalling.... This is RIDICULOUS and I'm really sorry that I went with them.

    I will never support this company again. I had the worse experience of my life with them. I filed a claim for my high tech washer to be repaired but they didn’t have a contractor qualified to repair it. I found out that with American Home Shield is all about the money not about satisfying the customer. They stole $81.19 from me but if it took that for me to get rid of them so be it. They sent me through eight different contractors to repair my washer (most of which were rated with a 1 star) but none was able to repair. So they told me they would set me up with a authorized contractor for my washer. I waited a few several days for this, only to find out they were sending me back to one of the eight I had previously.

    Did they really thinking wouldn’t remember. I had requested my $75 back but they would never give it back to me. I called my credit card company to dispute the charges but they blocked it saying the fee was for providing service. What service did they provide. They didn’t fix nor diagnose the problem with my washer. They wouldn’t give me my money back. But the beauty of this story is I was able to get rid of them before they sent an incompetent contractor to destroy my washer. Please be aware. This company use lots of 1 star contractors to do your repairs.

    I had a claim for a switch on the wall that was no longer controlling the ceiling fan properly. It went very well and the speed was the most amazing thing. I had barely pushed the button on the claim form and it was like 30 seconds passed when I got the call from Storm Electric. I was blown away. The guy came the next morning on time, assessed the problem, and fixed it within 20 minutes. He was very professional and fantastic. I've had coverage with American Home Shield on and off for seven years and I like that I don’t have to go searching for a contractor. I can put in the call and the contractor comes to me, and it’s backed-up. Every single incident has not run perfectly but in the end, there’s somebody between me and the contractor who can straighten things out when there’s a problem. So, we appreciate that.

    We had a line break outside of our house, and the water was flooding. I had to shut the water off in the whole house and couldn't get it fixed. The plumber came out. He was out pretty fast and took care of it for me real quick. He just had to replace a small plastic pipe. We signed up with American Home Shield in November and it was our 2nd claim. They handled our claims very well and I had no complaints at all. Everything has been good and right on the moment. The contractors say they're gonna be here a certain day, they're here, and the repair is done quickly.

    I've been American Home Shield's customer for nine years now, and I wouldn’t have continued with them for nine years if I wasn’t happy with the responsiveness and the technicians that they engage to provide service. They used IGD for me on a plumbing issue I had earlier in the year and they did such great work that I asked AHS if I can have IGD come out again for a separate issue. AHS agreed, and though I got different technicians, they did great work as I experienced with the first one. IGD is a great firm and I recommend them. Also, AHS does a good job and they are very supportive.

    My son uses AHS on a house in Virginia and recommended it to me. This is the first time I’ve ever used a company like this and it has been very good for me. When I called at 9:00 for my refrigerator, the contractor was there by 10:00. Neither the refrigerator nor the freezer worked. The lights would come on, but that was it. He knew what he was doing. He got his multimeter out, checked different circuits and picked the one that was wrong right off. I’ve also had my heating and cooling unit done. So far, I’m very happy with AHS.

    Having American Home Shield is beneficial especially if you're on a budget. I also like their process, in general, how to go about either online or calling and the expediency from when you engage to actually getting a request processed is pretty efficient. A month ago, my garbage disposal was not working and they sent their contractor out. The guy was professional and he fixed the garbage disposal on the same day.

    I had trouble with the refrigerator two or three times. AHS had somebody come out and check the furnace. I also had somebody come out and clean the ductwork on the dryer. I called the claims in and AHS added it to my monthly billing through the checking account. They called me back and told me they contacted the company. The company called me back within 24 hours in reference to letting me know when the approximate time they'd be here. Everything's fine now. The AHS service was excellent so far. I’m very pleased and that’s the reason I’m renewing.

    Our real estate agent recommended American Home Shield highly. We've had two claims in. One was the refrigerator. The ice maker wasn't working and water wasn't working. And the tech fixed that just fine. Then, we've had trouble with the washing machine. The appliances here are older, and water was coming out from underneath the washing machine. We live a condo, and the tech thought that when we have our washing machine going and they're doing upstairs, it puts too much pressure on the pipes.     I had an outlet that was not working, so I called and spoke with a live person in submitting the claim. I had some issues with the first company that was sent out, though. The guy came out in a regular car, with no uniform. There were also no clipboard and no paper. I told him the oven was not working and he used a tester in it. He then said that it was not working, that there is nothing he could do, and that I needed a electrician. I was like, "Okay, I paid you $75 for that?" I was not happy with how all that went about. The claims contractor helped, returned my calls, and corrected the issue. She said she was going to fix the issue, and then she called Stanford Electric, which was awesome. I couldn't use my oven, and the tech stayed until it was fixed. I have used American Home Shield twice this year already and I've been satisfied.

    I just bought the house in August and it was part of the agreement with buying it that the owner purchased the warranty for a year. I've had to call Home Shield three times. One was the plumbing issue, another was the AC, and I needed a new hot water heater. It broke and flooded. Every time I called, they handled everything really quick. They would have somebody out there within a day. They had the contractors out there and fixed the issue in no time. When the AC wasn't blowing any air, Comfort First came out and the tech fixed it within 45 minutes. He knew the problem right away as soon as he got there. He checked a couple of things, and he went up and had it fixed in no time. I plan on buying the warranty again next year. I convinced my parents to buy it this year as well for their house.

    There was a time when the pump for my pool cleaner went out and had to be replaced. I submitted a claim to AHS with whom I've had for 20 years now. With them, I just go online and tell them what's wrong. AHS's webpage works well. Usually, within an hour or two, I get an email. I then get contacted by a contractor who is gonna do that work and we arrange for them to come. This time, they sent Reflection Pools. While their contractors are sometimes busy and the contractor from Reflection Pools said they would be coming Monday when I called them Thursday, they said that if they could get to my place on the Friday before that Monday, they would. They got to my place on Friday and were able to fix it. The claim worked out well.

    So far, AHS' contractors have all been very qualified people and they do the work. However, I had some work done on my heater previously and I had to pay well over $1,000. When I bought my insurance, I thought I was getting the total work. The insurance company is taking the risk that nothing is gonna break and I'm taking the risk that things might break. If things do break and have to be repaired, the insurance company would repair it based on the premiums. While AHS covered part of my heater repair, it was still pretty expensive.

    We bought the house brand new and everything in it was covered for a year. We've lived in the house since then and have had American Home Shield over all the 14 years now. And we've not had an instance where they refuse to do anything. I've had very few instances with them and it's been with the air conditioning and furnace rather than everything else because we live in Florida and the air conditioner runs a lot. We have two different thermostats in the house, one downstairs and one upstairs. Rick from Airpro Service Company and who has been here many times, found what the problem was in the latest claim and he repaired it then left.

    We probably made a mistake on our water heater going to American Home Shield because we paid so much more for the water heater and had things that we were told we were required to do that nobody else in the 900 homes of where we live did that. But it was what happened and I learned my lesson with that, which is to ask a little bit more questions before I assume to take the word of whoever came out.

    My husband was with General Electric and we had all GE appliances before when we moved in the house. We also had GE in the house when we moved here. Within the first couple of years, the microwave had a problem and I assumed that they would wanna replace it. Instead, they spent more getting it repaired than it would have been to put a new one in. But we paid $75 and that's what it was. Also, my washing machine and dryer were 10 years old when we moved in to the house and they lasted another 5 to 8 years. But because I wanted a better washing machine that was gonna come in and the dryer was fine, I did a buyout for the ones that they were gonna replace them with. We took whatever it was on the washing machine and we bought the washer and dryer and installed those.

    We were experiencing no electricity in the bedrooms and there was a bathroom fan that needed to be replaced. I went to the AHS website to file a claim. It was pretty good and it said to expect a contractor out in 24 hours or something business days. But it was a holiday and a weekend, so it took a couple of days before I was able to get ahold of them. The dispatcher was really good at trying to get the appointment set up. Everything has been great and the whole experience is a lot better. We were with another warranty company and they were getting worse and worse. So, I switched over to AHS and the experience had been totally different. They were very attentive and they kept in touch to let me know what was going on. I was really satisfied.     We had a total of three different people who came out for the refrigerator but they were all very nice, professional and courteous. It was a Samsung refrigerator and when the first guy came out, he diagnosed it as the board. The digital screen was all screwed up. He couldn't read the numbers so, he had to order a part. A week later, another guy came out. He replaced the board and the sensors, and a day later, it did not solve the problem. So, that gentleman came back out a couple of days later. We cleaned up the back of the refrigerator because it had some fuzzies in it and I wanted to see how that would work. That did not solve it.

    The refrigerator wasn't freezing. It was getting down to 35 degrees and our refrigerator was hovering around 50 degrees. It just was not working. So, that guy did the last thing, which was to check the Freon, the compressor and all that, He found that there was a leak in it of some sort so they prepared to order parts. Then, AHS called and said that they would give us $850 instead of the repair. It's still not technically fixed. He put some Freon and it's already starting to drop a little bit temperature and it's going back up a little bit. We're going to try and use it for a couple more weeks before we get a new refrigerator. So, if American Home Shield buys it or takes it away, we would try and sell it for $120 with the disclosure of where the thing stands currently. The new buyer can determine what they wanna do.

    The last lady I talked to at AHS said that they estimated the cost of the repair at $850 overall. They would pay me that if I don't wanna get it repaired. I asked for the remedy if they come back out and tried to fix it, and again, it doesn't work. She said that AHS would warrant the work for 60 days, but they would buy the refrigerator. She didn't explain what the value of the refrigerator would be to me but at this point, we're satisfied with the professionalism of the people. They've been very courteous.

    When I called American Shield to let them know that my air conditioner was only blowing cool air and that it wasn’t getting cold, the rep seemed to be more knowledgeable than I was about the refrigerant. I looked it up online to find out competitive pricing and she told me that they no longer used R-22, because it affects the ozone. They use something else in place of it. Then I was told that the contractor would get here between 12:00 and 4:00 and that he would call me. The contractor called me himself. He told me that he was running a little late and that he would call me as soon as he left where he was at. He also gave me an estimate on when he would arrive.

    At first, a man came to check the air conditioner out and see what was wrong with the unit. Then, a gentleman came out to fix the unit. I picked their brains and both of them were very pleasant and knowledgeable. The generator was broken and it was replaced. The refrigerant also had to be put in. However, I don’t understand why I don’t have any paperwork as to what type of generator was put in, the date that it was put in, the price breakdown and the warranty on the part that was put in.

    The hardest part of AHS's claims process is getting the window. The contractors give you a four-hour window and you kinda twiddle your thumbs and wait around for them to show up. They should narrow down the window a bit to a couple of hours or they should at least let you know how many stops are on the route so you can not waste all day waiting around. Also, AHS should make sure their vendors give a heads up a half-hour before or on the morning of the appointment. But AHS has been very responsive as far as scheduling the claims within the next day or two and the vendors have been able to complete the work, which is nice.

    We have a Viking gas range top on the island and it has a downdraft vent hood. It's motorized and comes up behind the cooktop. There was a remote control that controls that mounted on the counter on the island next to the cooktop. That remote control was damaged and inoperable. The vent hood wouldn't extend or retract. Major Home Appliance had to come out twice. They came out the first time to check the issue out and get the model numbers and serial numbers. They ordered a replacement remote control unit, which came in about a week later. They installed it right away and it works. AHS has It's definitely worked out well for us.

    I called American Home Shield and they were really good. I do my claims online and I like the website, but sometimes, I like it better to talk person-to-person. We had two issues and I wanted to know if they are gonna charge me twice for it. My dishwasher was not working, and the hose that’s connected to it was leaking. But there’s no one to talk to when I call them. It’s a recording. So it’s pretty hard when you need to talk to someone.

    Their contractors have been really nice and helpful. The last guy that came out was for my refrigerator that froze up. They came out the next day right away. They were really good. The guy knew exactly what it was. He had it fixed in less than 10 minutes, and it was running. I've told people about American Home Shield and that when I first used them, they kept coming out because they couldn’t figure out the stove and they tried new parts. So they'll keep coming out till they get the issue fixed. They're excellent. You pay monthly even though nothing’s wrong, but if they can’t fix it and they have to go and buy, that money goes towards them getting you a new appliance. You could also pick different plans with them. We got the expensive one because mom has a big house. It’s worth it. Before, we had to go on the Yellow Pages and call for someone. Or we could call Kenmore but they cost a lot more.

    The technician from J-Star Services was great. We’re in the midst of selling the house and he was called out to confirm that we did not need a new water heater nor have the water heater lines repaired. There was nothing wrong with them.     We would smell gas on the furnace so I called American Home Shield. I usually speak through the person and the reps were okay. They told me to expect the contractor out in 24 or 48 hours. Steinmetz HVAC was awesome. Since they have been out, we haven’t smelled the gas. I also have a claim in for my dryer. The contractor called and they came out, and then they said they ordered parts. But, I have not heard anything, So, it is just sitting there. It has been three weeks ago, and I need my dryer fixed. American Home Shield can be hit or miss depending on who you get. I would not recommend the company for the dryer to anybody. And I called and filed two complaints with you guys and you told me you wouldn’t send a new company out. The receptionist was so rude. She hang up on me three times and told me I could not talk to a manager.

    A friend of mine has AHS and has had luck with them. And we’ve had them for about a year and a half now. We’re using them in two locations. We have a place outside of Astoria, Oregon and we have a place here in Portland. We used them a couple of months ago for a furnace problem. They did a good job taking care of that and had somebody come out.

    Then about two weeks ago, I submitted a claim for a drippy faucet piping underneath the bathroom sink. I talked to somebody and things moved along really quickly. The first company couldn’t come out for four days. We said that that was not gonna work. My husband had gotten under the sink to tighten up the pipe, but that opened up the water so bad that we couldn’t seem to shut the water off underneath the sink. We shut it off outside so we had no water to the house. We called AHS again and the lady I talked to got somebody else out the next day. The contractor came, did the hose, replaced something underneath the sink, and turned the water back on. Then, about two days later, the drip started again. We had a pan underneath it to collect the water for a day, but it wasn’t dripping a lot. We called and the same guy came out. He tightened up something to secure it better and everything is fine now.

    I go online and fill out their form to file claims and if I have any questions, I call them. I’m very comfortable with their website. But they need to give a shorter time span on when to expect the contractors and they need to fine-tune their times. Sometimes, you're told within 48 hours and it may be 96 hours. Also, they need to inform who is coming, not just that someone will be calling. The contractors have been fantastic and friendly. They go above and beyond getting things done and being honest and upfront. Working with American Home Shield is very easy. They have always come through and they have always been there. As a woman, you sometimes wonder who’s in your home and I have always felt safe with who they send out, which to me is very important.

    I put in the request for service at 4:30 in the morning and I got a call back around 8:30 saying that American Home Shield had someone in the area and if I was available at noon. It was probably the only time I would ever have a problem resolved in less than eight hours. Normally, when I've used American Home Shield, it takes a day or two or sometimes you need to order a part. This is what you see in advertisements and they say this is not your typical service but it's phenomenal. I did the claim online and I’m not the most computer savvy person but I was able to figure it out so it's gotta be fairly simple. I wish others were as simple to navigate as theirs.

    The contractor was great and he dealt with my dogs that are a little hyperactive when visitors come over. He had the repair part without even knowing what was actually needed for my unit. When I said it was completely resolved, even my wife was shocked. When she came home, everything was fixed. Everything has been perfect since he came out and I've never had a problem. In the several years I've used American Home Shield both at this house and my previous house, I've only had one issue where they had to come out for repeat visit. I don't know if I'm gonna be in this house the rest of my life or not but I do not see me ever being in a house where I don't have American Home Shield.

    When we first called in about our washing machine, it was making this noise that we knew something was wrong. The technician came out and said that the process was too long and there were too many different parts to swap out to figure it out. It seems to be working okay, but the noise was really loud. It got progressively worse, so the thing just completely quit. When the guy from Calvary Appliance Repair came out to check it, he tried to turn the drum and he knew immediately what was wrong and what had been going wrong. If he came out in the first place, we would've had resolution months ago. That was our biggest beef. But with this recent technician, we have no beef at all. He was perfect. That call went great.

    American Home Shield's customer service were courteous and professional. I would have preferred that they sent another technician out after that first technician left for a second opinion. But in order for that to happen, the way the process works is we would have to put in another service call. That was what we were told. If you're not satisfied with the resolution and you call back and tell them that you're not satisfied with it, it would be nice for them to send out another technician from another company for a second opinion without it being another service call. To be fair, it was probably one of those situations that doesn't come up a lot, and it was a judgement call. But I really wasn't pleased with the guy's judgement call. American Home Shield could've done one of those, "The customer is always right," type deal and give us a second opinion.

    When I was closing on my home that I purchased, American Home Shield was one of the home warranty options. I was reviewing them and I thought they had the most comprehensive packages so I went through them. When I was moving in and wanted to have my locks rekeyed, I contacted them and then they said that I could expect a call from my technician and gave me the contact. I got a call and we scheduled a convenient time. The contractor came and he was prompt and told me what was included. The rekeying package was four keys.     Sometime in December, my heating didn't work. I called American Home Shield and J-Tech Mechanical came out. They said the whole fault was because of the Nest that I have. They changed the thermostat and it was okay for some days. However, sometimes the heating wouldn't work all of a sudden and I was confused why. After looking at it for 17 days, I called them again. When the technician came back, he checked it and it worked perfectly fine. That was surprising to us too. We explained that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's on and off. Even when it's cold, we increase the temperature and it doesn't trigger on. The tech thought the sensor may be a problem, so he cleaned the sensor, put it back and said it should be fine.

    After that, he went and that evening, it stopped working. I took one to two-minute videos whenever it's not working for our information. I called after four or five days of checking and the guys came again and checked everything. They thought the control panel was loose, so they changed it. And from then, we didn't have an issue. Their diagnosis may not be perfect the first and second time they came, but they did a good job. The response and everything was quick and awesome. Whenever they came, they did a very good job.

    American Home Shield's claims process was perfect. When I had called them, I had to request them to make the repair as soon as possible, so the lady took extra care. It was a Saturday and they still got someone there, so I was impressed with the way they responded. It was not always the same experience with other companies. Not many times have I asked them to come, but whenever I had an issue, 99% of the time, the experience was perfect. AHS is excellent. I will stay with them.

She said I should hear within maybe 24 hours and then the technician from Tri-County Plumbing, LLC called me the next day.     There was a time when my water bill had spiked and I was told that the problem was most likely something in my house and that I had to find a plumber.     The stove wouldn’t come on at the right temperature. It was very high. I had a guy from Sears look at it, and he said that I was holding this button too long. I turned it to the window that shows what the degree is from Fahrenheit to Centigrade. Then he held it and it came back on to Fahrenheit. He said not to hold that button too long. Everything went really well. He was very good, polite and efficient. He did a lot of cooking too so he knew what stoves would do.

    I’m almost 76, so I need all the help I can get. Also, the guy that came out for our electrical issue did a great job. It took him a while to find it, but he did find it and he fixed it. The people who originally built and wired the house didn’t do the greatest of jobs, because they’ve got most of the plugs out in the family room, and then the electrical plugs in the living room and dining room area all in the same breaker.     American Home Shield sent Jones Family Appliance Repair for the fridge that was icing over and collecting ice in the crisper shelf. They did something. It helped and they were excellent, but the water's coming back. I'm gonna have to have them come back out. But they fixed it with what they thought was wrong and what they commonly see wrong with Samsung refrigerators, and it definitely improved it, but it didn't completely correct it. Still, Jones was great. I was very pleased with American Home Shield, and I plan to continue my membership with them. It's a good service. I'm glad I got it. I have older HVAC so it's definitely a good thing to have.

    My washing machine broke the week of Thanksgiving, 2019. After 3 weeks, finally got an answer that my washer could not be repaired and I opted to take the buy out. They told me the check was mailed on December 19, 2019. I never received a check, finally on January 23, 2020 (after many requests) they finally placed a research on the check. I was told it would be 48 to 72 hours before they could provide me with an update on the check status.

    Today is February 5, 2020 and no one at American Home Shield can provide me an answer as to where my check is for $595.45. I call every single day. The answer I keep getting is, "We are still waiting on an email for an update." Today, Feb 5th I was informed that another research request had been placed on the check. They could not provide as to what happened with the 1st research check request???? I am a very patient person but this is not acceptable for a business practice. I am very disappointed in this service especially their customer service department as I have been dealing with issue since November, 2019. Still waiting for my check they claimed to have mailed!

    To begin with they had a service technician contractor who wouldn't return calls or texts. It has been three weeks and I still don't have a running dishwasher. When I gave up getting the tech to call me back, I called AHS, and their customer service is in Trinidad and Tobago, and English isn't their first language. Turns out that they cant get the right color control panel that matches my dishwasher, so they want to put on a different color. IF I don't like that, they want to "pay me" for the part and let me try to find one myself. It is a mess, and not a good service. If they cant get the correct part they should replace the dishwasher instead of sticking me with a patched together unattractive dishwasher. I will probably just end up buying a new dishwasher. Wish I had kept the $700 that I spent on this contract and I could spend it on the dishwasher. Buyer beware.

    I have used this home warranty provider for multiple years. The last year their service has declined. The contractors provided are not quick to provide service calls. I have had 3 claims this year. Two are for the same repair that was not performed satisfactorily for a toilet that runs/leaks. The same toilet had a repair the previous year. Three service calls for the same issue falls short in providing service w/ satisfactory contractor efforts and skill. I also have a denied claim for an emergency repair required to allow my tenant to leave her garage, denied due to the repair being completed by a contractor they did not arrange, however the tenant did not have the luxury of waiting 24-48 hours for a service call, as she was trapped in the house with her car in the garage.

    Although a call was made identifying the emergency and the AHS representative agreed the repair could be made and noted the account as an emergency, AHS denied the claim to reimburse their covered portion for the garage door repair that is included in the policy. There are too many other choices for providers who do more than collect monthly fees.

    American Home Shield sent contractors from Peacher Plumbing & Backflow Services, and they were very cordial and very professional. They did a good job. I have a water heater and they had to put a drain pan under it so if it overflowed, it wouldn’t flow out. They put a pop-off valve in and they did it superbly. I’ve done claims with AHS for about 20 times already, and they're prompt and nice. They can’t improve with them being perfect.

    I have 2 homes that were under warranty with AHS. I have cancelled both. The first time I went to use the service, I advised AHS that this was an emergency, water leakage from fridge and no freezer. Service team that was given my request did not even speak clear English nor were they concerned that I had an emergency. They told me it would be 24 hours before they could book my appointment. Appt was then booked for the next day, Tuesday, from 1-4pm when I called back to verify, it was changed to 1-5pm, BUt NO ONE showed up. I called again and we were told they would be there today, Wed. from 9-11 am. I cancelled my appointment because I can't wait for them to tell me they have to order a part and I have to wait another 5-7 days.

    This company is a not accountable for the customers needs nor do they care. They just collect your monthly fees and an American will set that all up so it's nice and clear to understand at that time. All of their phones calls go overseas and the people on the other end are very hard to understand nor is it acceptable to run a business like this. Not one clear answer through this whole process. The best part of it all was cancelling my contracts for both homes, I had an American do that. Thanks for absolutely nothing AHS!

    The furnace stopped working so I called AHS and one of their customer service representatives dispatched the company who told me that they were unable to fix it because it's very old. They recommended that it be replaced and they submitted a replacement paper to American Home Shield. It was authorized and my part was to pay for a permit for all the sales which related to the upgrade of the system. I didn’t know what exactly they meant if it was some kind of tubing or filter but they told me that my part of the payment was close to $2,800.

    I realized later on that American Home Shield was supposed to pay by contract but they refused to pay for the upgrade part and they would cover only $600. It did not even cover the cheapest unit nor even 20% of the labor which needs to be done. It was an old unit which needed to be replaced and whatever unit you're gonna put, it's gonna be an upgrade from the old system.

    When I called customer service to complain, they told me that nothing could be changed and I requested this. They told me that they were not gonna negotiate and so, I requested just whatever pay options because I didn't wanna deal with the blind offer from American Home Shield. I wanna find my own company who will do it, maybe for less money and I wanna choose my own unit. I have nothing towards the company which came and did the evaluation, but I was cheated with that and I was unhappy. On the other hand, I had a 5-star service from Tavor Plumbing. I talked to the customer service rep of American Home Shield and described the problem. She arranged for the contractor to come out and I’ve used them twice already. I’m very happy with their service. They came very promptly, efficiently and professionally.

    I had a problem with the heater. I called American Home Shield and they gave me the number of Action Repair Service. The service went pretty quickly, though there was one time when I didn't know if they got the message and I had to call them back. But for my heater claim, once I spoke to the contractor, they came. When the tech was here the first time, whatever the problem was seemed like it kind of didn't happen. The heater was working at the time that he came, but then it cut off again after a few months. They told me to call if anything should happen, so I did. Then they came right away and took care of it. They had to take the heater and see what the situation was. Then the tech came back with the part and put it in. After that, I haven't had any problems with the heater.

    When I bought the house, I knew that the water coming in through the line from the street to the house had a very high pressure on it, and it needed a pressure regulator installed on that for the home. The high pressure was causing some of the taps to break. I've had American Home Shield for almost 4 years now and it was the first time I've actually put in a claim. It was easy, I didn't have any problems, and Circuit Mechanical was sent out. They took 2 trips and they fixed the regulator. There was also a service where they could text and it was easy to use. When I had to have a second visit, they texted me to sign in on when I wanted it, and I kept on pushing it back since I had to be out for a week.     When I went online, I noticed that Appliance Pros had some questionable reviews. But I also know how hard people can be in today’s society. When I called, Missy, the lady that scheduled the repair was nothing but professional with me. I explained to her the situation, that we didn’t have a refrigerator and that we were using like a cooler with ice packs to keep the food. She said that she would get us right in within the next 24 hours because of the urgency. Normally she couldn’t get us in for about four days.

    Appliance Pros did a really good job. They came out the first time and thought the problem had something to do with a switch. They ordered a switch and the tech added some Freon to the condenser. He thought it would be a green light, ready to go. Unfortunately, the compressor never came back on. It looked like there might’ve been an issue with the circulation of the Freon. But they came back out a second time and the guy said that there wasn't much more that they could do for my 18-year-old refrigerator. They wound up calling AHS and AHS did an awesome job. They notified me, gave me some options and replaced the refrigerator as promised.

    You hear people complain all the time about home warranties and I was very skeptical about getting AHS. But my experience with them was amazing and I have had nothing but great things to say about AHS. When I called for my AC unit, they were Johnny-on-the-spot. When I made the claim, within a couple of hours they contacted one of their local contractors. The contractors contacted me and were out within 24 hours at the most. At the worst, I've had to wait around 48 hours. I have two homes under AHS that are both over 15 years old and you can’t beat that. I have peace of mind, knowing that I have several very expensive appliances under their protection. Knowing that all I have to do is call them, I pay my $100, and then you guys take care of the rest is a comfortable feeling.

    I had a smell in the basement and the handle was not working well on my shower. I submitted a claim over the phone with AHS and they assigned Bud Plumbing to service me. Within a few days, there were two gentlemen that came out and they were great. However, it'd be nice if they would respond faster when it's urgent. Other than that, everything is completely fixed now. The smell is still there though and I think it’s something else. But the techs fixed the things that I directly required them to fix and they even showed me what they were doing, which I appreciated. Besides that, whenever I had a claim, American Home Shield's reps did well for the majority of the time though once in a while, I’ve had some bad ones. Still, the value that I’ve gotten out of the warranty has been amazing.

    AHS has done what they've said they were gonna do. Every time that I’ve called, they've had somebody come out and try to repair whatever I asked them to. They’re doing a pretty good job of getting people, but some of the people that come out, are not as experienced as they should be with fixing the problem. The Herley company's tech had to come out more than once. He told me to turn my refrigerator off for 36 hours. We did that and had to take all our food out.

    When he came back, he said that it still didn’t work. I asked what was wrong and he said that it may be something else. He put in a new icemaker and then he said that it may take somewhere around 24 hours before the ice started being made. I sat down waiting but it never worked. He said that he would get somebody else to come out because what he had been seeing was not quite there. Each time they’d have to come out, I had to call the AHS people to let them know to restart it again.

    Mr. Appliance came out next. The tech looked at it and said something about the fan that was not blowing at first and then he had to recheck it. Yesterday, I had told him that I called the manufacturer and that there was a part that I thought he might need. He said that he would look at it. Then he took the icemaker apart, pulled it and set it down. He came and said that a water valve was bad and that he will have to get back with AHS to check with them if it’d be all right to get the part.

    He said that he would call me back yesterday. I gave him a call and asked when he was gonna get the part and when he was gonna come back out. He said that he would come back out this morning between 8:00 and 10:00. The weather was supposed to be bad and he said if he was not gonna show, he'd give me a call. Mr. Appliance just called and they said that they weren’t gonna be able to make it this morning and that I could make them another appointment tomorrow morning. I always tell friends that it’s worth having extra insurance to get repairs done. With the cost to get things repaired, if you didn’t have a company that would cover the repair, it would be a big expense.

    Our freezer was not freezing correctly and everything had started to thaw. I put in the request like five in the morning online, and before noon, the tech was at the house. He fixed it before 1:00 and everything was refrozen and working. They were able to get ahold of my wife to get in the house and get it fixed. He was very professional and very nice.     I got outstanding service from After Hours. The owner, Doug, was on site. I have two hot water heaters, and my hot water heaters are next to each other, so it’s a little bit more of a complex setup. He was out on site and diagnosed the first problem. One of the flow meters on it was broken, so that was replaced. And then, after that, there was also another issue that they had to diagnose and come back out on. There were no problems. They just had to order some parts. And service was great. I’ve had a lot come by my house. I always look for people that treat my house like their own, and Doug and his team did. They were always respectful. I trusted them, and they resolved it, so it was very good.

    I’ve used American Home Shield for years. I had multiple houses. My parents now use them as well. It gives peace of mind. In the past, some of the suppliers have been really good.     We’ve had a number of issues over the years but most recently, I called and put in a request for service. Home Shield sent somebody from Third Generation Plumbing & Mechanical out. The person told me that I had to buy a part and then call them back. I bought the part and called the company back. Then I was told that the earliest return service day they could give me was four days later. I called Home Shield and complained about it. They put you on hold for 15 or 20 minutes and hope you’ll hang up and give up. But when they finally come back, they just tell you, “Too bad.” This is the best they can do. Their communication and customer service are all terrible. I told them that they’re gonna finish this service and I’m gonna cancel the program.

    I have had American Home Shield for many years and I've been very happy with them. I've had to have put up a stink sometimes and say something is not right. But I would have somebody else come out, look at it and verify it, and I haven't had any problems. The first contractor who came for the refrigerator wasn't qualified to put the death sentence on the refrigerator so AHS had to call Sears. Sears verified that the refrigerator was too old and too far gone and that the Freon was not able to be put into it because it was so old, they don't allow it anymore in that one. They were also very pleasant and nice.

    So I've had to have second opinions. Next time, I would say send Sears first. But the other technicians who came out before were very good too. He actually repaired my dishwasher because my dishwasher and my refrigerator both went out. It's like when it rains, it pours. He was able to fix my dishwasher which I was really happy about. If something can be fixed, AHS would have it fixed. If they can't, they would replace it or give you money towards it and I can upgrade. We live in a older house but everything is upgraded. Now, I have a new well, a new water system and a refrigerator. That's why I have some kind of house warranty. My husband has dementia and with his condition, I have to take care of everything and I can't fix it. So I'm really happy I have American Home Shield to do it.

    For the refrigerator, the pictures AHS showed me of units to pick from weren't energy efficient. Then the other ones were the wrong size. So I went to ABC Warehouse and bought myself. I've had it delivered and I'm happy with it. I paid 800 and something dollars for it and I need to get reimbursed. Then on the claim for my well pump, they wouldn't okay my well pump and I was so thankful that they stuck to their guns and didn't try to replace my well pump because I needed a new well and I didn't know that. I had a well tech come out and he said, "Wow! Yeah, definitely. You need a new well." That happened before winter. Just imagine if my well water went dry in the middle of winter.

    But American Home Shield will never let me have a local company take care of my claims. A lot of companies won't go with American Home Shield because they probably think they're trying to get the money out of them. Right now, I'm going through a claim with my furnace and this is the fourth person coming out and it still is not working right. I think the guys in my town would know more about my furnace than the people who are traveling many miles to get to my house. I wish the guys in my town would go with American Home Shield but they don't. AHS could try to find people that are local for your appliances. But it's fine. Whatever works. It's not American Home Shield's problem either.

    I filed a claim online for the pump in the sump pump that had stopped working and there was water in the basement. Every time I have to open a work order, I do it online. It’s fast. It’s unbelievable. It immediately tells me who the contractor’s gonna be and that they’re gonna contact me within a certain amount of time. Just two days before my pump claim, the furnace had stopped working. It was 6:30 in the morning and 62 degrees in our house. I set up a work order at 6:30 in the morning, and by 9:30, I had heat.

    It would’ve cost me a fortune to have somebody come out and who knows when they would’ve gotten there. But I've never had to wait for American Home Shield to send somebody.     I had a previous provider and I had a problem with a claim. I found them not to be as actively interested in resolving it as I thought they could be. My brother was with American Home Shield, and my parents had also previously in their house had been with American Home Shield. I figured thus AHS was worth a try. One concern that I have is like when the electric guy was out, there was an issue on whether he should replace the entire fixture, which he said was broken but usable, as opposed to just the ballast. He said the connectors at the end were cracked and would fail at some point, but he said he could only, at the time, replace the ballast, then I’d have to call back when the actual fixture failed. If contractors had a little bit more flexibility or leeways to be proactive in avoiding a future claim that might be helpful. But otherwise, everything is fine.

    AHS sent a contractor to replace the ballast on the fluorescent light. I might have preferred they’d be a little towards the front of the time window rather than back, but they were well within the window of time that they had estimated. We are satisfied with AHS. I was a little ambivalent about the payments to the contractors they made directly by credit card as part of my logging of the case as opposed to writing a check when we’re satisfied with the work. But all in all, that actually makes things easier. So I’m fine with it now.

    I considered American Home Shield as a warranty so if in the event that something went wrong in my house, they would come out and fix it. I’ve been with them since 2011 up until now, so that’s a long time as far as paying each month. And over the years, when I had to call them to come out, I was always satisfied except for one time and that was last year when my hot water heater went out. In fact, after that, I was thinking about dropping American Home Shield because I really felt that with all that I paid into the warranty for every year and for the number of times that I used it, they kinda fell through the cracks because of the mere fact that they didn’t want to cover the repair of my water heater.

    I spoke to someone at length about it and he told me he was making note of everything that I asked. It went higher then I asked to speak to a supervisor and the whole nine yards. And I called around different places. I had two different companies come out to give me a second opinion on what it would cost versus getting someone out here. After going through all that havoc with a leaking water heater that I had, which I had to end up replacing, American Home Shield might have given me $300 out of that and I had to pay $1,400 out of pocket. So, that kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.

    Other than that, through the years, their contractors have always been very nice. The ones that came out always provided me good service and good information. They’ve also always been on the up-and-up in terms of when my appointment was scheduled, when they came, and I didn’t have the runaround like someone not showing up. All in all, I like the idea of having a home warranty as far as getting things fixed. I just hope that no one else would experience my bad experience with the hot water heater, because everything else I have experienced with AHS was good.

    There was water that was spraying inside the pump housing area on my Whirlpool. Home Shield was right on it and sent me a text. They said they contacted someone and I should be getting a phone call, which I did seven hours later. Steven A. Mills Plumbing came out and the tech assessed the situation and found out what was the matter. They ordered the part and came three days later and replaced it. Everything works great and back on the way it was. Home Shield is a peace of mind. I don't have to worry about if something breaks and I don't have to worry about trying to come up with the money. I looked online how much one of those pumps were and they were like almost $400. And I paid $85 and that was it. It's easier to come up with $85 than it is 400.

    We only used American Home Shield once or twice, and there was a quick response with the workers. The refrigerator in my garage stopped working. I went online and made a claim which was very easy to do. American Home Shield said that within 24 hours, I would get a call. But I then got an email saying that Savvy Tech would be out between certain times. Those guys were excellent.     When the water heater sprung a leak and dumped all its 40 gallons of water on my basement floor, submitting the claim for it was extremely easy. I went online and did it in a couple of minutes. I have tried calling a claim in, but it was a whole lot easier to do it online. I've been with AHS since 2012 and got it before I retired to help manage my large expenses. For the most part, their contractors are really good. They send out whoever they send and you don't have a choice, but I have not had any problem with any of them.

    American Home Shield's online claims process was user-friendly. When I submitted a claim for a leak that was coming from my washer, there was a notification that said that someone will be contacting me within a window. And if I hadn’t heard from them, that I should call. Greenway Home Services came out twice for it. The young man that came was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable. Before he came in, he put those little foot things on and did a thorough look-through. He replaced two parts that I know of that was damaged. Years ago I had AHS, but then I moved. It was in an apartment and I didn’t have a need to have a home warranty at the time. In 2016, I moved into a home and I knew to get it. But I have been shopping around.

    The first couple of experiences with American Home Shield weren’t so good. I was without a refrigerator three months before they finally got it resolved. They kept sending out the same part to be replaced, and then two days later, the part would go out again. So, it wasn’t the part. It was the refrigerator. And finally, they replaced it. I live in Pearland and it takes a while to even get an appointment to get somebody. Except for the garage door repair, which happened the very next day, so that went well. American Home Shield's claims process was great. As a matter of fact, I did recommend them to my nephew. I told him that it was a great deal and good service.

    I reported a plumbing issue to American Home Shield. A previous company replaced the spout that goes to the bathtub and after he did that, he checked everything. We found out it's leaking so I called back the same plumbing company. They said I had to make another order so I called my home insurance company. They said they would send someone for a second opinion and they would take care of it 'cause I was still under warranty for the first repair.

    The contractors came and said something was leaking inside so we had to replace a part. They fixed the problem but they had the handle to work the other way around. We have been in the house for 25 years and when we turn this way, the hot water will increase. We turn the other one this way, the cold water will turn on. Now, it's the other way around. It's working though and it's not dripping but I wish they left it the same way. This is my first good experience with them and the only satisfactory coverage. Before, they didn't fix anything when I called.

    AHS seems like they just randomly look for one in the area. There should have an option for the vendors to see if you have a better option of a better rating of the people that they’re sending out. With the last people they sent out for me, I had to sit on hold for almost 15 minutes to get a customer service person or they'd tell me to go to their website and do the claim and that they were to e-mail me back. Then I never got an e-mail back. It was an inconvenience. Other than that, AHS has been pretty good. I've had them for four years and everyone that has come out has been fine. The guy from Accord Appliance was very pleasant. When he came out, he needed to order a piece and I gotta do a recall on it.

    It would be better if AHS can explain exactly what is in their policy. For instance, my garage door opener went out but they only covered the actual motor in the garage door opener. They say the garage door opener is covered but it doesn’t explain that if it needs to be replaced, you have to pay out of pocket. Luckily, my garage door opener is very old and the technician said that they don’t cover it to be replaced and that they only fix it. It would have been $700 if they couldn't find the board to my garage door opener. The $100 to $700 is a big jump for someone who can’t afford it.

    I chose American Home Shield after I looked through their ratings. I used the app to submit a claim and it went right through. I had an issue with my control panel and Prodigy Appliance Repair came out. The guy called me and he was very professional and quick. He didn't take more than 30 minutes to fix. I have no complaints and it was a wonderful. I also recommended the guy to somebody that another home warranty place had been jacking around, and he actually went out and took care of their problem.     My heating claim started out a little shaky because I wasn’t confident that I was gonna get somebody out right away. When I first called, the person that took the claim said that they'd have someone contact me on the first business day. That would have been a Monday, which it’d meant that my heat pump wouldn't be working for the entire weekend during the winter. That was kinda unacceptable and so I told him to withdraw my claim and I'd make a call to see if I could get somebody out right away. I made a call and I only left a message and I was then convinced that I didn’t know if anybody would be able to get out here.

    So then I called American Home Shield back and told them to go ahead and so I submitted the claim and I was at that point assuming that it was going to be Monday before I heard from anybody. But then I got a call 30 minutes later from BPM Services and they said that they'd have a technician out within two hours, and from that moment on, it was awesome. The contractor was a very pleasant fella. His name was Russell and he came out on a Saturday afternoon. I told him what I thought it was, which turned out it wasn’t. He demonstrated that I had a blown capacitor and he demonstrated with his meter that the capacitor was not giving off the right charge. Then he had a spare capacitor in his truck and he got it. He demonstrated again with his meter how that was a working capacitor, and he installed that and it was up and running. I was very happy with how Russell interacted with us.

    This is the first time I’ve ever used AHS. The thing that I like most is I didn’t have to track down a contractor because this place is in a rural area where I don’t know people. And them, having a network of contractors, is good because I don’t have to worry about that. I’m just gonna call the claim in and then they can assign it to whoever they want to. Also, I couldn’t be more pleased with the contractor that they assigned it to. The only thing is that I now know the customer service reps really can’t just say that they’ll have somebody be in touch within two hours. It caused me to have to try to handle the heat claim outside of American Home and then maybe I should resubmit it. If there was any way that AHS could give the customer a little bit more confidence about getting service on things such as heater or those kinds of problem during the weekend, that’s the only area of improvement I can suggest. Overall, it went fantastic.

    We had submitted a claim to AHS for different plumbing issues. The hot/cold in the sink, when you turned it back, it wouldn’t open. They fixed that and some toilets, the one with the flapper. And then they fixed another one that was loose as well. The plumber was really good. He had to buy the part, and then he came back. So far, I like AHS. You gotta wait a couple of days, but other than that, it’s pretty good.

    My husband submitted a claim for the washing machine. I put the clothes and came back about four hours later, and they were still washing. So the issue had to do with the timer. Someone came out fairly quickly and my husband told the contractor what the problem was. They looked at it, but they didn't bring the part with them, so they came back that day with the part.

    When I had a claim for a fan that was in the ceiling, it took forever to get it fixed. Whoever they recommended didn't have a ladder that high. Several months later, we had a talk with American Home Shield and they got somebody else to fix it. When we started out with American Home Shield, the contract fee was fairly low, but it seems like it’s gone up every year. In retrospect, we would've just put the money in the bank and waited for something to happen. But it's nice to be able to go to one person for maintenance, not having to search around for plumbers or electricians. Overall, I'm happy with it.

    We had a claim in December and Brick Works came out. I would never wanna use them again. They look like they're a huge company, but in actuality, they're working out of their own truck or a truck supplied by this company. But their home office is in Charleston, West Virginia. What happens is AHS calls the main number, and then Brick Works calls a person that supposedly works for them on the cellphone. Then they dispatch the person to whatever the address is. They also took advantage of me. I had a backup of my sewer pipe and water was coming into the house. They couldn't fix the problem. Then we deduced that it was outside the house, which was not AHS's responsibility.

    The operator said, "I think I can get a snake. It goes from the outside out from the street. Let me call the office." He also said that he'd come back the next day. He came back, but it was not the company snake. He told me he borrowed it from his neighbor and charged me $250. He ran the snake and he cuts up some roots on a tree. He said he didn't know if that fixed it or not. I gave him a check for $250 reluctantly, and two days later, I have the same problem.

    I just called Roto-Rooter and got it fixed. So when I called in for my most recent claim, I requested Gaithersburg because I've used them a couple of years ago, through AHS. A lot of times, AHS won't let me request and just decide a company. But whoever answered the phone this past time did. The claim went well. I felt really comfortable with requesting them and I'm glad I did. The guy showed up, figured out what the problem was and took care of it. When our microwave was not working correctly, it was repaired several times. Then we got it replaced.

    We've had AHS for a long time. We started doing using them when Mrs. was a Realtor and she recommended them to her clients. We're always happy with the service. But we went through a period of time when things were not so good. A lot of people that came out didn't know what they were doing. They took a picture then they'd call the company and ask how to repair the issue. So that was why we went back to Gaithersburg Plumbing. And then Sears was always very good. Hopefully, the service is getting better now.

    The repair guy came over. He was absolutely professional and walked us through some of the characteristics of our system and told us why we were hearing the sound that we were hearing. He was fantastic. But at the end of the day, there was nothing wrong with it. My wife and I misjudged it. He even stayed for a while to allow the appliance to cycle through to make sure it was okay. And then he said, “Look, just submit another work order if something’s wrong, but there’s nothing wrong.” I also had an electrical claim, which was the first claim, and that guy was absolutely incredible as well. He came by and said, “Sir, you just need to hit this little button on your outlet.” It was one of those circuit breaker outlets.

    I’ve had two claims and there was nothing wrong with either, but it was really good to just get the reassurance from an expert, and so it was worth the deductible. I just retired from the Army after 28 years. We lived on bases majority of the time and they had no choice but to be responsible. Every time we’ve called Home Shield, they have been ultra responsive and ultra accommodating. It has been fantastic so far and I hope our great experience continues.

    I told American Home Shield that I was having a problem with my dishwasher and they told me that they would set up the appointment. I wasn’t sure and looked up Amtec online. They had a lot of bad reports against them and I was kinda concerned, but AHS told me they would make sure that one of Amtec's top mechanics come out.

    The fella that came out was great. He knew what he was doing and did a great job. The latch that closes the dishwasher broke off. Also, it was very hard to close. You had to use all your might pressing against the door to get it to connect. The latch that was broken was changed, but we still had a problem. You couldn’t get the door to close. The contractor had to come back and replace the hinges and the gasket. I’ve also had AHS take care of a couple of little things with the air conditioning. They also replaced a faucet that went bad and was leaking. Things have gone very well so far and I’ve been happy with everything.

    It’s usually pretty simple to open a ticket with AHS, and the contractors that we’ve worked with had been responsive. But their contract management needs to improve. I had to purchase a new contract and it wasn’t renewed. Then, it was kind of a hassle to purchase a new contract and reconnect through the phone with their customer service. If you have to call, you have to end up on hold for quite some time. It’s a lot easier to work with them on the web and their website as well as the app, are good. I also like all the web-based interface and the fact that they track it when the person is arriving. But I had a billing issue a few years ago and it was difficult then to get the contracts reconnected online. It wasn’t as easy as it could’ve been. So, I had to have a few contract numbers for a while, then they had to kill one.

    I have two warranties. One on a townhouse and one on a condo. And the townhouse, it has been over a year. I renewed it. It's easier for me to submit claims over the phone. We had plumbers out to the townhouse a couple of times. They were excellent. But the electrical at the condo, not so much. We had things going off, and the tech said the microwave was too powerful for what our electrical was. So, I went and got a smaller one but it was still happening.

    I bought my husband a circuit tester and all our circuits were good, so I didn’t know why it was happening. The tech didn’t go any further than that so I wasn’t too happy about it. We’re still having the issue. He just said, “It’s that microwave.” So, I took it back and got a smaller one but it was still happening. Even when the microwave isn’t running, it was happening. We even changed places. We put it in a different plug in a different area but it was still happening. But other than that, I like that Home Shield responds quickly and they do what they say they're going to.

    I had an electrical claim with AHS where they sent out Certified Electrical Technologies. Everything was done and the technician was very professional when he came in. He fixed the outlet in the kitchen, in the dining room, and in the master’s bedroom. He explained what happened with the system and he changed some parts, but everything was very good. Other than that, in one claim that I put about one year ago when my appliances had a problem in my kitchen, the contractors didn’t have a part when they came to fix it. They were supposed to order that part, but they never came back. And I was waiting for their call to make an appointment again and come back to fix it, but they never called. When I called American Home Shield, they said that the case was closed because I didn’t call. I told them that I was waiting because the technician said he would order the part, but AHS said they couldn't do anything to open the claim.

    I have been a member for 3 years. I have made several service calls. I am ok with paying the agreed $75 but there are so many loopholes that cause extra cost for the customer. For example, I had a leak in the ceiling, the plumber came out (1st out of 3) and could not fix it ($75 gone). I called AHS and they sent a 2nd plumber for free (yay!). The 2nd plumber could not fix it. The 2nd plumber said that AHS does not cover cutting holes in the ceiling and if I want them to take a look they will charge me $200 (I think it was $178 or something like that). So I paid it because I need to have this problem fixed but even after cutting the holes, nope they could not find the problem. I called AHS to cancel my contract since it was just costing me more and more money and they offered to send a 3rd plumber.

    By now, I figured out the problem and when the plumber came I explained the issue. They said, it's not a leaky pipe so they cannot fix it. Ok, so I fixed my own issue and paid $275 and stayed home off work but that's just life. So I called to cancel my contract (I used to work support so I am very courteous and do not curse or yell or get angry) and I was told that I need to pay a $53 fee to cancel the contract. Not to mention that my monthly recurring fee was just paid yesterday. Anyway, they basically are charring my money to cancel my contract. The problem, my 3rd year I couldn't pay upfront and was told I need to pay month by month but the good news is I can cancel any time. This home warranty company is not worth it. In the past three years I could have save a lot more then I spent just by putting aside the monthly payment into my savings account. :-)

    Absolutely positively under no circumstances would I recommend an AHS home warranty. My client has water leaks and there was NO ONE that responded to the client's concerns. First, there was a water leak at the entry point of the water lines going into the house. AHS didn't cover that leak because it was not 'INSIDE' the dwellings. Then leaks were noticed under the house. We started asking how much if any of the repairs would be included under warranty in MAY, MAY 2019. To date, we have not had any definitive answer as to whether water leaks in the galvanized pipes under the house are covered or not covered.

    My client has now repiped the house at their expense. We are considering adding the cost of the repipe to the cost of the initial warranty when we file against AHS. I am an Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty. Coldwell Banker is an affiliated company with AHS. If we can't get a response, do regular people get responses? Why are they allowed to continue to sell warranties in California with this deplorable customer service? I could go on and on with the specific details of this matter, however, the bottom line is that they don't service their customer effectively.

    Heat went out when it was about 20 degrees outside. Put online request for service on New Year's eve. Had to pay $125 before they would proceed with claim. Called early on new years day. Service company AHS put on the service call wouldn't come out until 1/2. Ran out and bought backup heaters so the family and house wouldn't freeze. Tech came out on 1/2, informed us 2 things wrong with heat system. Long story short, after dozens of calls with AHS, English as a second language folks, two different service companies, 23 days and $625 (on top of yearly cost) later our repairs were completed. Oh and they want to try and charge me another $125 since their service company couldn't complete both repairs, which I'm disputing. Saved us some money. Highly recommend you have back up heat to get you through. Don't count on this company for quick turnaround on repairs.

    US Air came to our home on January 31st. Now, they came days before that to repair our unit because the tech had to put a panel in, and then he had to do something to the unit itself. And I thought it was repaired correctly. Later that night, I heard a loud pop. My bedroom was right next to the unit, and I ran, and I came out of my bedroom. I looked around and investigated. It sounded like something fell in the house, and I didn’t see anything. So, I went back to bed. The next morning, my brother left because he lives in Oklahoma City. So, he left. And I didn’t feel right. My mom also told me her eyes and nose were burning. We were sluggish. I said, “Mom, I just feel like I just wanna go back to sleep. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.” And she said, “Baby, I’m sleepy too.”

    Then my sister came over. Thank God she did. I told her Mom had a headache, and I had a headache. My blood pressure was normal. I just felt sleepy and sick. I just didn’t know what was wrong. She asked what happened. I told her the heating man came and fixed the heater. She told me to check the unit. I opened the door to the unit, and the door to the furnace part fell off. I had no idea if my sister didn’t come over. We were just feeling sick and sleepy. Me and my mom was just gonna go back to sleep. That was serious. Carbon monoxide can escape from that. I didn’t think I’m supposed to go behind the repairman that American Home Shield hired. I don’t know anything about the unit. And as a customer, I’m not thinking to check behind him when he leaves. I just went about my daily business.

    I checked the detector, and it was at 18. I had never seen a number on that detector in my life. I almost panicked. I was sick on top of that. And so, my sister and I struggled trying to get it on because my mother’s bedridden. That was when I called US Air up, and then I got a recording. They were closed. My sister got it halfway on. I called American Home Shield, and I told them we gotta get somebody here because we needed to get the door back on the unit. They told me, “Oh, it’s gonna be a two-hour window.” I said, “Carbon monoxide in the house, a two-hour window? Y’all want us to be dead or what?" So, they did send somebody over within two hours. I had left the house, and my sister was here. I was all confused.

    My sister said a gentleman came. It wasn’t the gentleman that initially repaired it. He explained to my sister everything. He explained to her that the technician did not put the door on. She showed me properly. It was something he was supposed to adjust and put on securely. He did not do that. And this technician that came corrected everything. Ever since the other technician did his part correctly, the door hasn’t came off. But that could have killed us. I’m gonna file a formal complaint. They can’t get away with this one. American Home Shield will tell you they have to find whoever’s in their network. And then if you have an emergency, if it’s almost coming to the weekend, they’ll make you wait until the next week, and it’s something that could be an emergency.

    When the high limit switch on the furnace wasn't working properly, we called Atlas Heating & Cooling, a local company, to come out and service the furnace. The contractor changed the high limit switch and so we had heat. We paid the fee and then called American Home Shield. Because the heat was out when I came home from work the day before and I knew I had AHS, I thought it was okay to call a local company to come out. Unfortunately, when I called to submit the claim, they said, "This is not how it works."

    I explained to them that I didn't know and that it was my first time doing a claim. My mother was at the house with us and when you have a 77-year-old at home that's bedridden and depends on oxygen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you panic. It was imperative that we have heat. Even if I could have gone to the right channels, I was so desperate to get the heat back on in the house. It was about 8 o'clock at night. When it comes to emergencies, there should be some exceptions or they should let people know what to do.

    Then at about 3 o'clock in the morning, it went out again. I told my husband that I had to call Home Shield and go do the process. We had to wait. AMC Heating Cooling came out and fixed it properly within 30 minutes because the tech waited for it to cycle. The company that came before went out immediately. AMC's tech was phenomenal and very professional. He explained what happened. The switch the other company put on wasn't a high enough capacity, which was why it kept turning off. They didn't put on the right switch and charged us about $294. It was a mess.

    When the furnace wasn’t working, the contractor came out the morning after I got ahold of AHS. I called on a Thursday and a couple of guys came out Friday morning and fixed it. I’ve owned a home for a long time. There are a lot of expenses and a lot of things that go with owning a home. Especially for somebody that never owned a home or somebody that’s young, it’s really a good deal to make sure you have a little insurance on some of the big items that can go bad.     It was one of coldest times in Jacksonville and the heater outside was making a loud sound as I had the heat on, so I had to turn it off and called to file a claim. The live representative was very helpful because when I was talking to him. I went out and turned on the heater, so he could hear what was going on. He helped assess the problem. I was told to expect the contractor within 24 hours. The contractor from Beaches Air Conditioning and Heating came out on a Saturday and said that it was the fan and that they would have to order the part. Then they came back on Monday and changed it. Everything was good this time. It was quick and efficient.

    I have had some issues in the past. In my last experience with my AC, I was without AC for 10 days in summer, and I had to pay $400 for R2 something because the air conditioning was out. But, I knew it was the pump because it is the heart of the machine. So, now they fixed the heart, and I shouldn't have any problems. Overall, American Home Shield has great service when they have great contractors.

    We thought we had a water leak one time. My son said he saw water coming down the wall downstairs, so we panicked. AHS sent J-Star Services, Inc. to service the request but then as it was, my granddaughter had overfilled the bathtub and hater had leaked behind the stopper at the top at the overflow. It had run past the overflow there but then there was nothing really wrong. The tub needed some caulk behind the overflow valve but then the plumber who was sent said he didn't do that.

    I was very disappointed with that guy as it would have only taken him a couple of minutes to do the three-inch thing that he has to caulk around. But still, he didn't do it. I've been with AHS for about a year now and their contractors have nevertheless been on time and they diagnose my problems. When my garbage disposal was leaking, they put a new one in for us.

    The guy came out and was in a rush, big time. The problem was that the light fixture wasn’t working, but he wasn’t even ready to touch that. He just checked the switch and said that it was fine, that he didn't care, and that he was not authorized to touch the light fixture. He also said that he didn't have time and had to go. He wouldn’t do anything. I argued with him and told him to have a look at the light fixture. After 20 minutes of arguing, he touched it and found the shorted wires. He just unfolded it and it worked. It was a small thing and I could have done it myself, but I thought, “Let me not touch the electric stuff.” I also had another claim before and it went okay.

    The ceiling fan stopped working and I went online, filled out the form and paid the $100 fee. American Home Shield contacted me the next day to tell me who would be coming out. Then SJDI Electric contacted me and set up an appointment. They came out at the time they said and the guy fixed it in about 30 minutes. It was a capacitor inside the fan that had gone bad. It took him about 30 to 45 minutes to fix it and that was it. He’s very professional and the ceiling fan is working fine. Everything went well and they had a 60-day warranty. If anything went wrong or it stopped working within 60 days, they’d come back out to repair it and it wouldn’t be another service call. This is my second year with Home Shield and they always come through.

    The primary pool pump failed. It threw a bearing and it just flat out failed. American Home Shield sent Master Pools by Atlantis and they had to order a replacement pump. It took two days to get the job done. They came out on the weekend and checked it, and went ahead and called American Home Shield to get it going Monday. Every interaction I’ve had has been successful. I’ve been happy with the service provider, the time limits and the resolutions. They’ve done a great job. This is the second time I’ve had this contractor at the house and they were great. I had them out last year through American Home Shield as well.     One contractor recently had a problem with my washer and dryer, and another contractor came out. The first one AHS sent out didn't seem to fool with it. He said I need a new washer dryer. AHS sent another contractor out and he fixed it right away. AHS evidently didn't know that it was fixed 'cause they called me and said that they were gonna give me a new washer dryer, but I didn't need it then. I told them it's fixed.     Over six years that we've been with American Home Shield, I got four appliances that their contractors fixed plus my air conditioning. We've had a dryer fixed, a washing machine that couldn’t get fixed but they paid to replace it and we’ve also had work on a drawer in the refrigerator. The warranty on the air conditioning system saved me $1,000, but it still cost me $2600. It’s very difficult to figure out exactly what is covered and what is not. My only suggestion on the air conditioning would be to help the consumer on extra charges that their vendors do because they're stuck with whatever they say. They nickel-and-dime the consumers to get the money. So, when you look at the price of somebody coming in that you know versus your warranty, it saves you money.

    My water heater was leaking so they sent out a guy from R. Prescott. The first time that the guy came out, he thought it was just tightening up a nut. But that didn't fix the problem so the next day, they sent someone else out and had to replace the water heater because he saw that it was rusted out and needed to be replaced. So the problem solved in a relatively short period of time. R. Prescott had been out there a couple of times, so I prefer them. One time I asked American Home Shield if they could send the same crew and they did.

    American Home Shield should offer their services on weekends and after-hours because not everything breaks down Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 5:00 PM. If they are worried about the extra cost for time and a half, I would be willing to pay that half time and still have the person. They're not out any money. In this situation with the water heater, they would have came on Saturday. They're still gonna pay for the water heater and for the tech's time. I would then pick up the cost for half the time so then American Home Shield doesn't lose any money. It's a common sense thing to me but not everybody works on common sense.

    It was easy to submit claims for the most part. However, we deal a lot with the people who are overseas and the representative was very hard to understand. Whenever I kept telling her that I didn't know about heaters, I could tell she was just reading from the script. Then she just kept on and on and then she started getting frustrated and just said to submit it as how she submitted it. She wanted me to say yes or no.     I had a heating issue where AHS sent out a tech from Affordable Heating & Air. He took care of the problem and was very professional. Apparently, I had a couple of other things going on and he had them written on the piece of paper that he gave me. He also told me that I needed to change my air filter that was causing part of the problem. It was a pleasant experience.

    Other than that, every now and again, it’s kinda hard to know things when I'm dealing with AHS' reps. For instance, Myers was the first one to work on my heat months back and when when they were working on it, I didn't know that I should’ve called Home Shield because of the 30 days. So, they didn’t clarify very well who you’re supposed to call. And it was my understanding that if I had trouble inside that 30 days, I could call the company that was doing whatever work it was. Then sometimes when I call American Home Shield to get somebody out, it's very difficult to get someone that knows what they're talking about and doesn’t speak with such a heavy accent. I can’t understand what they're saying and I’m good with accents because I work with them every day.

However, when the delivery guy came to bring the oven, it wouldn't fit in the spot. It was 1/8 of an inch too big. AHS told me that I have to have the cabinet modified, but they don't modify cabinets, which really makes me angry. They didn't even offer to help or give me any names. Then they said to call them once I'm ready for the oven to be installed and they'll call the contractor to come back out. I understand that it's not their fault that the oven doesn't fit. Everybody makes different size ovens. But there is a solution, which is for them to modify the cabinet. They give you all these whistles and bells and say how great they are, but I'm not pleased with them. Their people were great though.

    CK Appliance Repair, LLC came out for the range. The electric connection to the coil, all that little block, had burnt out and I submitted the claim online. The website was pretty user-friendly. CK Appliance called and told me when they were coming out, who was coming out and that they will call us when they were almost close by. They came out the first time and evaluated it, and then they came back out. They worked on it but I had a list of our concerns on the range and they didn’t repair everything. The technician had overlooked one of the major things which was an outstanding one. Even when the range was off, the light was on to indicate that it was it on. So there was a disconnect and he didn’t have one of the range tops to replace when he came out. So then he had to come back again to complete it.

    Also, the oven’s automatic self-cleaning was not working as well so he put a whole, new board in it – all new connectors and all new coils. It seemed like they could’ve just replaced the oven because everything that made the oven an oven and the stove a stove had to be replaced. We kept asking why they aren't replacing the stove instead of doing all of these. They did such an expensive repair that in my research in looking at the cost, it would’ve been more cost-effective to just replace the whole range. Either it was American Home Shield or the repair people that chose to repair it. But it’s doing okay now.

    Another thing is when contractors come out, they say they only do so much. I would ask if they could just tell us what we need to do to get it fixed so then we’ll know who to call and what to say. They would say they just don’t fix it. We got a issue with our commode and we’ve called the contractor out and they tried the snaking. It’s just slow moving. I asked what the next step was and they said they don't do the next step, that I have to call an actual plumber because they're not authorized to do anything other than what they had just done. We could’ve snaked it. You’re paying the monthly fee and when they come out, you also pay a service fee and they only do the very basic. Unless it’s major, you can almost save that kind of money yourself. Especially if your appliances are new, you get to save it and get your own repair done.

    There was no problem with the claim regarding the disposal but for the other claim, they didn't fix the toilet and I still have a broken toilet. They said that they couldn't repair it ‘cause we tried to repair it ahead of time. It was leaking so bad and we put some silicone and then they said, "We can't touch it. You tried to repair it." And my interactions with American Home Shield were horrible. No one came nor called me. They need to fix it. I've been with them for a long time and this year, I'm canceling everything and going to a different company, as soon as my warranties are over.

    My water heater was terribly flooded, and I couldn’t turn off the water from it to install a new dishwasher. AHS sent someone and he installed the dishwasher and changed the valve on the water heater. Everything’s terrific, in fact, everything that I’ve had done by American Home Shield so far. And that’s two things in the last month. Besides the water heater they also did the stove and replaced the dishwasher. Their technicians were terrific, very professional and knowledgeable. The one who came out for the stove the first time also did the dishwasher, and he was the one that had said that the problem was the water heater. He fixed the stove, but he said it wasn’t a good fix. It was just temporary.

    And the next technician who came out determined that the dishwasher definitely was needing replacement. There was a part needed on it, and they don’t make that part anymore, so they said all we can do is replace it, so they did. They sent another guy out and he’s the one who took care of the plumbing. And then they sent the first guy back, and he’s the one who fixed the stove properly this time. So, it took three people and five visits. They had it all done within 10 days. And I’m happy as a clam.

    Once you get used to something, you kinda stick to it and so, I’ve been with American Home Shield for a while, probably decades. They respond fairly quickly when I submit claims and for the most part, I’ll give an A-minus to the people they’ve sent. I had experience with the guy who came out and put the air conditioner in. He didn’t do the thing right and AHS had to send somebody else out to correct it. I ended up having to pay $3,500 because my air conditioner wasn’t fixable. They said that it was an upgrade. I still owe money on that but that’s the only problem I ever had with AHS. They need to be a little more open about what they cover and what they don’t cover. They kinda made up for the past with what they did recently with an appliance issue I had. The experience with the contractor, Care Appliance Repair, was a good one and the technician did a professional job.

    For three years now, I've had American Home Shield. It’s a service that’s sorely needed. I wanted to make sure that outside of my regular homeowner's insurance, I had something to cover all the appliances.     The first time, the technician got here 10 minutes early. It's not an issue but he never gave us a phone call or let us know that he was even on the way. It's understandable and maybe he was just in a rush but we didn't know, and we were on our way back home. By the time we were pulling in, he was trying to drive out, and it was 10:05. We told him that we were here already and asked him why he was trying to leave. He said that his boss was making sure that we were here and he was not allowed to sit around and wait after us. He had to go to another job. The only reason why he was sitting around waiting was because he didn't give us the courtesy call that we asked them to give us.

    So, once that was situated, we got inside. He did his job and everything was fine. But he cut a 9x9 hole in our wall and then replaced it. He put the block back in, but he basically said to spackle it ourselves, or have someone else come spackle it because he had to leave. He told us that it was either AHS would send someone out or we had to get maintenance to fix it. So, we sat with a hole in our wall for about a week. I just finally covered it up the day before yesterday. The technician still did his job right and the bathroom works perfectly fine. For someone who was probably still annoyed, he didn't give attitude. He wasn't upset so he still kept his professionalism.

    Spackling that wall wasn't that big of an issue and he didn't know he was gonna have to cut a hole in the wall but it should be one of those things that if he even suspects he has to cut a hole in the wall, he should have spackle to cover it up too. If someone comes in and messes up your stuff, they gotta come back and they gotta fix it. It doesn't have to be perfect. He could put the spackle on the wall and we could sand it down and paint it ourselves. If it's not his job, I can't be mad that it's not in his job description. If he's not supposed to do it, he's just not supposed to do it but he could have made the effort instead of just saying that someone else is gonna come do it, which was the only part that kinda irritated me.

    AHS was explained to me that it was a homeowner's insurance. If you have an issue or anything like that and it falls under something they can fix, it's very worth it. When we asked someone to fix it initially, the price that they gave us was way different than the price that AHS gave us, which was better. For what he did, the cutting to the wall and everything, AHS only charged 125. It was a good thing because, at first, he said it would have been free but he had to change a couple of things and add parts, so he had to charge for some extra. But it's insurance that you need.

    One particular day, it got a little bit unseasonably warm. We were cooking something in the oven and I thought we needed to turn the air conditioner on for a couple of minutes just to cool down a little bit. We turned it on, and lo and behold, the house didn't cool down. Then last week, when it was really cold in here, I didn't feel like the heat pump was putting out any heat. I went ahead and checked the circuit box and the breaker was tripped. I went and reset the breaker and it immediately tripped again. I reset the breaker outside and whatever was happening in the heat pump was resetting the breaker.

    At that point, I opened up a ticket with American Home Shield. Within probably 24 hours, I had a service call with appointment with R & K. Within maybe 48 hours after that, they came out and looked at what was going on with my unit. They had to get approval from American Home Shield for the repair because it was kinda pricey. They had to wait for the part because American Home Shield ordered the part and had it drop-shipped to them. Since the new compressor was installed, the unit has been fine. However, we don’t know what's normal noise or what's not ‘cause it’s different than what it was. Every heat pump or air conditioning unit or furnace that heats and cools your house has its own distinctive set of noise. The noise that we were used to was the sound of a compressor failing. So, now we’re getting used to what is the sound of a compressor working normally.

    I’ve lived in my house since ’96 and the heat pump that I have is original equipment, so it’s about 26 years old, which is a long time for a heat pump. Last year, they had to put a new fan motor in and a new blade. This year, they had to put in a new compressor, and there was not an issue at all with American Home Shield doing it. I was talking with the guy at R & K and he said, “Dude, you had a new motor, a new compressor, and a new fan. You got a completely refurbished heat pump now, so you’re good for another 26 years.” It is good ‘cause I don’t have the appetite for replacing a whole heat pump. That’s kinda pricey. My other sister just had a heat pump replaced. She didn't have American Home Shield, and it was expensive.

    I always got timely responses with American Home Shield and they always did what they said, so it’s good. It’s good that people do what they're supposed to do. If everybody in the world would do that, it would be a much happier place. When my sister moved and bought a house down here with me, I told her to have them put in a one-year contract with American Home Shield as part of her closing in case anything goes south. And she did. So, to that end, I’m pretty satisfied. And what a happy coincidence because they were in their house for six months and their hot water heater broke. American Home Shield's contractor came out and replaced it. It didn't cost them a dime.

    I've had American Home Shield years ago and let it lapsed and then I started out again. It’s better to be able to have somebody come in, know what you’re gonna pay, and be done with it. They have an easy claims process but I wish that I could pick a vendor or use people that I know are good or people that have been referred. But they’re not with them, so I can’t use them.

    In a recent claim, I got Mac Mac Plumbing for a plumbing issue. I had slow drains going on throughout the house. I’ve been using different products like Drano and Liquid-Plumr, and it would fix the problem temporarily but not completely. Eventually, it did clear some of the drains enough, but there was one drain in particular that needed more attention. So, the plumber came and he cleared it. He also gave us some advice on how to keep them cleared and he was great.

    I've had American Home Shield for about 10 years now and, generally, it's pretty easy doing claims with them. The contractors that have come out were very proper and professional. But whenever I was working with one particular team at American Home Shield, they really gave me a hard time. We wanted to get a second estimate to try to lower the fee to get something done and for us to not have to pay the $75 extra fee for the second person coming out to evaluate. But then, I literally spent hours trying to figure out what had happened and the way it did.

    I'm almost 100% the team was Filipino and I understand they were trying to do their job, but it became a mockery because they actually called me back after I talked to them the same day asking if I was happy with the service and the way things are happening. Finally, I figured out that there's another call center that I can call. And when I called them, I was so relieved because I could speak to someone who understood me. Their language was clear enough and I felt like I was gonna solve the problem here. The one gal was very professional and she said she would look into it. She called me the same day and told me that they would not charge me the $75 for the second person that came out.

    AHS is pretty good about assigning someone quickly and then I usually call that company fairly quickly to get the repairs done. When my bathtub plumbing was not working correctly, they sent Prime Plumbing Services. When I turned on the shower, half of the water would come out of the faucet and half would come out of the shower. They replaced it with a good quality gold-colored faucet like I had, and I appreciated that. The contractor came out one time and told me they were ordering something. But then I didn't hear from them and I had to call back. It was kinda par for the course with the company. However, they got back with me and repaired the issue. I also had a second order to repair a faucet that was leaking outside. They came back and took some time to repair it.

    Synopsis of events. OCT 27 - call to report cook-top not working. Nov 4 - Contractor shows up, Needs parts. Nov 21 - Comes back with parts cannot fix. Dec 15th - Takes unit to his shop and still can not fix. Dec 28th - Another contractor assigned - he can not fix. Jan 6th - AHS finally decides to order a new unit. Jan 14th - Another contractor brings out unit, will not install without new supply line. Feb 3rd - Still on hold with AHS assigned contractor who is just another referral business called C and R services - they also are horrible. C and R Service Solutions out of Atlanta. 4 Plus months, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and now super bowl without a cooktop - They do nothing to resolve the issue, absolutely nothing. Cancelling the contract after this year on both my houses. :) Estimate 20 Hours of missed work, 10 Hours on hole.

    The garbage disposal wasn’t working. I submitted a claim online with AHS, which is what I usually do as it's more convenient, and they assigned Anytime Home Services to my claim. It took five days for someone to come out but he was very professional. He did the work really quickly, too.     Having American Home Shield for home warranty is very fine. But they're like every other company these days. It's hard to connect with a human being. I don't like being connected with somebody in the Philippines. They don't talk loudly enough and they are not aware of the American expressions. It's different here than their country so they do not have our life experience to deal with. They actually didn't know what a drain on the bathroom sink was. In fact, I don't like being connected with so many other countries, period. But I will deal with it if I have to and talk to them. When the drain pipe on the bathroom sink had corroded, we called on a Friday and On Time Plumbing was out on Monday. It was excellent dealing with their guy too.

    The furnace wasn’t working properly and the contractor had to come twice. The first time, the part that they brought was defective. So, they came back in a day or two and they fixed it.     Premier Appliance came out for the dryer and the person they sent was so experienced that I was so pleased. He walked in, pulled it out, looked at it and said he knew exactly what the issue was. Sure enough, he pulled it out and it was a fuse that we would've never seen. It’s way at the bottom. My husband was so surprised also. He helps me with a lot of things that are maybe messed up but we couldn't figure it out. This guy did it in less than 10 minutes and he fixed it. That’s how good he was.

    It has been about eight months since I got American Home Shield. I was looking for a company and my neighbor was the one who recommended them. He said that if I start having problems, have little things, it’s very much well worth it. Sure enough, I had my disposal go out. A different company came out that time and now my dryer. These are little things that happen that you don’t expect.

    If you don’t get American Home Shield, you are in for some big expenses. I like the fact that there's a fee that I pay every month and then the one-time fee for a contractor to come out is what I really enjoy the most. My husband was doing the math and he kept saying I was paying so much. But I told him that if we turn around and have to buy a new dryer, we're talking between $250 to $500. That in itself was a plus. So you may start doing the math and think you're not getting a good deal but I think you are. I really do. Every time I’ve contacted American Home Shield, they’ve been quick to respond and they send out someone right away. That’s what really impresses me about them. I don’t have to sit there and wait for a while.

    My water heater was making noises, so I called AHS. The guy from Humboldt Plumbing had to make an appointment a week out. I didn’t know that the water heater was leaking because it was going underneath the floor underlayment. It wasn’t until the carpet got squishy the next day that I knew that it was leaking. So I called him again and told him that he would have to come faster. That was on a Thursday evening and he came on Saturday morning. He was very nice. He put the hot water heater in and plumbed it and did everything in one day. They tore up all the bamboo and my carpet into the front room and down the hall, part of the kitchen and the bathroom. They also had fans and dehumidifiers and all that stuff.

    Advanced Home Services came out for an underground slab leak. The gentleman that came out was great. He was courteous. The water district sent me an email and it said my meter was running continuously, and they wanted me to check on it to see if it in fact was a leak or if it was a running toilet. I ended up troubleshooting it myself, and then they came out and they brought out a leak detection company. They found out that I had a leak. And then, I hired a different contractor to come and do the job because their pricing was ridiculous, and the contractor is currently working on it now. And in fact, he fixed two of the leaks and I still have one or two more.

    It’s a big headache. So, two of the leaks are fixed where you have to re-pipe it through the ceiling versus underground. They take the line that’s going underground, find the two spots, and then do it through the attic. And then, he’s coming back tomorrow because he couldn’t do it for the last three days. He’s going to try to discover where the other two leaks are and fix those. I've had American Home Shield for about eight years. It works out. Some things are covered, and some things are not, but they’ve taken care of so many issues for me and they’ve been great.

    I've had American Home Shield for about two and a half years. I do it for the peace of mind more than anything else. I would recommend it for a certain segment of the population who aren’t handy and don’t have a lot of time to do stuff. It’s great. In the past, you had to wait on the phone a little bit when filing a claim. But it seemed like this last time around, it went pretty quickly.

    I had High Priority Plumbing and Services come out and it was great except the guy had to come back a second day. He put a pipe on the tub faucet that didn’t fit the whole faucet casing. It was like the end of his day and so he had to knock off and come back on Saturday, which was a little bit inconvenient but not as inconvenient as it would’ve been if it had to be Monday. At least he did come back on Saturday and otherwise, it was good. He even texted me when he was coming, when he was about a half-hour out.

    We had a previous plumber repair our dishwasher. While he was repairing the dishwasher, he had to put a new pump. He noticed that the garbage disposal was leaking. We called Home Shield and within a week they sent a contractor out. That tech inspected the garbage disposal and put a brand new one in. We've been very satisfied.

    Having AHS has been very enjoyable. We pay our $75 fee and they send somebody out. We've had four contacts with them already. I've had problems with my dishwasher, dryer, hot water heater and my garbage disposal.     I always get an appointment through a rep when I submit claims to American Home Shield. It is most convenient for me. The contractors I’ve seen are very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. They’ll tell you right away what the problem is and explain briefly what’s going on and what should be done. Then, they do their job in the right way, which is all I care about.

    The refrigerator is still a pending claim. One of the components is broken so that needs to be replaced. I’m getting a loud noise in the fridge and a cracking sound plus the ice cube maker is not working. It is broken because of a part, which has been ordered. The vent is pending as well. They found out that there is some clog so, a technician will be sent to clean that up and to take a look how it works. I’ve been with American Home Shield since 2001. When I used to live in Indianapolis, I used to have the warranty service thing. The service, the follow-ups and the response had significantly improved compared to the last warranty experience. It has changed compared to the last six years.

    My washing machine went out on a weekend and I put the claim in. AHS found a company and the person that came out determined that the washing machine was too old to even put money into it. About seven days later, I got a brand-new washing machine. Then, the dryer wouldn’t dry the clothes. I had to dry clothes two cycles to even get it dry. I figured the dryer would probably go out because I bought the washing machine and the dryer as a set when I had my house built. It had the same turnaround so I got a new dryer as well. The quality was top-notch. The washing machine is a lot deeper than what I had and the dryer is a bigger capacity drum. I like my appliances. This claim was outstanding because of the quick turnaround.

    American Home Shield covers a lot of my items in my house and those are big-ticket items that normally would cost a whole lot of money if buying it and sometimes, people don’t have that money to buy those. I’ve been in my house since 2005 and stuff is gonna break down. If you don’t have mega dollars sitting to the side, you're gonna wish you had American Home Shield and so I told people at work to better get it.

    I prefer to do everything online like with my claims. But when my heating went out on a Thursday night, I called Home Shield the following Friday morning. They arranged for Strickland’s Heating and Air to come. It wasn’t but a few days later, but it was very efficient. They were there Monday or Tuesday of the following week.
