Repair Shack came to repair my dryer that was not getting warm. They provided very good service and we've been washing clothes like mad people do since then. So far, having AHS has been easy and economical. It’ll work out very well for us.

The heater wasn't heating and the tech from Element Pool Repair that AHS sent out handled it. He had to come back a second day, though, because it needed a new panel. But he came back the next day like he said he would and fixed it. So it was all good.

It takes forever to get in. You have to call in and wait for 15 minutes before anybody gets to you. And then, because we live in a rural area, it takes a little longer to get people out here. We don't get the response as quickly as I'd like it. But the response time is the only thing I have a problem with. Our recent claim was my kitchen sink. I tried everything to unplug it, but they wouldn't go, so we brought A-1 Plumbing out. My wife was here when he came out and he got it working. He got it working on Tuesday, but we had to leave town for a funeral on Wednesday. We haven't messed with it until yesterday. We got back yesterday, and it clogged up again. I wasn't able to do it, so, I called him this morning. I had to call in for another ticket, but they said if it was the same problem that I wouldn't be charged, which is what I'm hoping. They called and I was hoping I could get them out today, but they said they couldn't make it until tomorrow afternoon.

Other than that, I had my air conditioning, a washer and dryer worked on and it has always worked out for me. My dad and sister also has Home Shield. I've been in this house approximately nine years. I had it here. And then when I lived in Dallas, I had it in there too. I've told a few people about Home Shield because I work about 45 miles from here in Lubbock, Texas, which is a larger city. I work with a few people there. I know that a few people have signed up because I've told them about it.

I've used AHS for several appliances and they come out. I like that they've changed some of the companies they work with and it has been helpful because the service wasn't too good for a while. I called them when the dryer would keep shutting it off. C&C Appliance Repair called me one night saying they would be out the next day. The interaction was fine when they came out and the dryer has been working perfect since.

We found out where the clog was and then unclogged it. It went well. The tech was good. When our line was caught up and the water started dripping, I liked that the service was provided the same day. On two occasions, it was provided the same day. The technicians came out and did some troubleshooting. And then we contacted the homeowner’s association board and worked with people to troubleshoot and find out what was wrong. And then, we found out what was wrong and was able to fix it. I feel good about that.

Home Shield is helpful in terms of not having to look for somebody to do the service. For instance, I had planned to get my locks changed. And I saw that is a service that Home Shield provides. So, instead of me having to look for someone, I can just get it done through them. The biggest thing is that there are some projects that I plan to do. And instead of having to look for a particular provider or service, and not being certain whether or not that provider is somebody I could trust, I feel a lot confident going through Home Shield because I'm sure the providers they use have been vetted. I would recommend Home Shield. It met my expectations and has been efficient.

I was standing at the sink and I turned on the garbage disposal, and it was leaking a lot of water right underneath it. I used the webpage through American Home Shield to put in the claim. The repair guys came out a little earlier than they were supposed to and within 15 minutes, it was replaced. Now, it’s good and new. I've had two other home warranties and this was the first one I've done for American Home Shield. I've done one from another company but it didn’t work out well, which was why I switched back in June.

A kitchen sink faucet stopped working. It was one of those ones with the sensor where you'd just tap the faucet and the water turns on and off. IGD Plumbing came out and they recommended replacing the faucet because water flowed to the rest of the house and everything was fine. It was just that particular faucet. We agreed to replace the faucet and they came back a week later and replaced it. The water flow started and everything was fine. But we didn't have any cold water. So we asked them to come out again and it was a really simple fix. The hot and cold water lines that feed the faucet, the cold water just had a little crimp in it so no water was flowing. So they just straightened it out. Overall, the process was really easy and very smooth. Everyone that I talked to both from American Home Shield and IGD Plumbing was very helpful. I had a lot of questions and they were very patient with me and answered all of them.

Sometimes, it's not black and white. You have something that's broken but they can't really tell you if it's covered. They want you to pay the $100 deductible then figure it out but it's not refundable. I've had several claims with AHS and the last one was difficult. The person that AHS sent out was one company and I kept waiting for their approval of the repairs. When I finally called in, they said that that company decided they didn't want to come out this far anymore so we had to redo the whole thing. We had to get another repairman out here. But it was done last Monday and it came out fine.

We had a plumbing claim in the early part of the year and the faucets we have in our home are from Moen. Previous home warranties would give us something comparable to what is already existing but what AHS wanted to give us was something very generic. I wasn't satisfied with that. I didn't want to do it and I had to pay out-of-pocket to get another faucet. I had to pay for that upfront after I paid for my service call, which is $100. That was more work for me and more out-of-pocket. It was reimbursed but I don't think that I should’ve had incurred that out-of-pocket cost upfront when that's the purpose of a home warranty. I almost left American Home Shield for that reason and I was on the brink of saying I would go back to the previous home warranty I had before. I decided to stay and give them another chance. Recently, we had the garbage disposal fixed and that was handled pretty quickly when I called in the service.

I went with a competitor and I couldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. So, I decided to go with somebody with a better reputation and I've been happy ever since with American Home Shield. I like that when I call up, it’s strictly automated. Usually, I would say that I hate that because if you want to transfer to customer service and they're wanting to talk to you all over again about other issues, they never transfer you. Whereas in this position, it was very straightforward. There wasn't a line of questions on why I was calling. They just process it quickly and it’s a big help, without having to hold to speak with somebody. I made a call that morning and the technician from ACE came at about 1 o’clock that same day. I was very impressed. He did a great job. My furnace is an older model and he said it was something that happens due to age as time goes on.

When the machine runs through, the soap's getting clogged in and not rinsing out like it's supposed to. The guy who came out fixed a spring at the door. Then he ran in and said everything was fine, but that wasn't the case. The actuator is not releasing the door now that the spring's fixed. They can't get the part to fix it, and now I'm waiting on them to tell me what they're going to do about replacing it. I've been waiting since last week Tuesday to decide what they're going to do. I tried to get ahold of them today, they said that it's all for replacement, but they transferred me over to somebody in the purchasing department, and after 30 minutes on hold, I had to hang up. I had to go do something else. Supposedly, I was going to get an email about cashing it out. I was asking if they're gonna cover the installation as well.

I used to have First American Home Warranty. When they came out, the guy almost rebuilt the whole brain of the stove. I thought they could have replaced the stove a lot easier than coming out three times to fix it. But then the money got tight in-between jobs, so I discontinued their service. When I went to sign back up, they wanted me to pay three months of service. I said, "I'll just find somewhere else that's month-to-month." I came to Home Shield.

Everybody's experience is different. I'm hoping that mine’s just one of those things. I know that I'm better off with something. Even if they do cash me out, I don't understand that part because it's either fix or replace. I paid like $50 a month. So we're like, "Okay, to me, $50 a month it adds up.” But now that I'm using it, at least I thought everything was going to be really smooth and easy, but it'd be a lot cheaper in the long run than if I didn't have anything. But I've seen another warranty on TV just this morning, and they do a lot more stuff so I was thinking about looking them up too. But overall, to have your stuff covered is a peace of mind.

I started with American Home Shield in 2000 and there was a year break because they decided they didn't want to cover me anymore. They wanted to make more money off of me. I was paying and I was active. In 2017, they decided they wanted to charge me $100 a month for the cost. AHS has replaced a number of items for me over the 20-some years that I've had the service. All of the stuff that were replaced have been of quality. The people I talked to any time I called in have been very good to work with. And even though I felt a little slighted for that year, I do everything I can to promote AHS.

It's very easy making a claim with AHS but I'm having a problem doing it online. I had the old account when I started up on my policy this year. It won't let me set up contact with my new account. When I bring anything up, it comes up with my old account. That aside, the people who came out have been pretty good. We're in a very rural area and we have a limited number of people who can come and service us. As long as they want to try and keep the business, they work very hard at doing it well.

The only thing was that AHS rejected my claim. They said it wasn't wear and tear. I said it was, but I lost. I was very disappointed. Then they said to use the website, which is much better, but if I have a problem where I have to talk to a human, it could be difficult for the phone call, a long wait than the website. However, I put in about 10 claims with them and they do a great job. I love it.

I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years. When I first signed up with them, I had no trouble getting anything done. Now, when I call in, I gotta sit on hold forever to get anything done, and a lot of times, the service too. I just went through an incident on my microwave, which I called in, paid my deductible. They dispatched a company, which was fine. They came in a couple days. They said it burned the circuit board out and they're not available anymore. So, we had to get a new one, which is fine. AHS gave me a buyout price. They also told me that they couldn't get one, so if I wanted to wait, I should call back in three weeks and they would place an order. Which is what I ended up doing because I couldn't find one like mine around here in Madera. Then they already told me they had checked and they didn't have one. So, I went ahead and had to order it.

When it got here, I was supposed to call them, and they were gonna dispatch somebody to take the old one out, put the new one in. I called back. I was on hold for an hour. Somebody picked the phone up and hung it up. I called back in. I was on the phone almost two hours before I finally got ahold of somebody. When I talked to the person that they dispatched to do the work to set the appointment up, he said, "Well, I don't know why they had told you to call us. We don't do installation." So, then I had to go through everything again.

We never did end up finding anybody that would come and do it for AHS. I ended up having to call somebody myself in Madera here that I knew did that kind of stuff, and they came over and put it in. Then when I re-called and talked to the lady, they reimbursed me for the installation cost. I'm supposed to be getting a check on it.

When the garbage disposal wouldn't work, and I called in. AHS took a week to get somebody out on the garbage disposal. I had already tried to see if I could get it to work. I couldn't get it to work. When the guy came out, he did something up in the top, flipped the switch, and it worked fine. That's how we got it taken care of. It just took certain time to get somebody out.

I've referred a lot of people to AHS and I've had a lot of people sign up with them. I've always had good experience. It's just that AHS has gotten a lot bigger than what they used to be and it's harder to get stuff done. I'm not patient when it comes to hold time. AHS should have one of those things to where if it's gonna be a long hold, we can leave a name and number and they would call me. And I won't lose my spot in line.

Everything went very smooth with 1st Choice Appliance Repair. It was an A1 service. They had ordered some parts. And it was over the holiday, but they still got the job done, and came back and repaired it to my satisfaction. They were working on my washer that had a water leak. And then the refrigerator, which the front panel, where you get your ice and water, didn't work. We troubleshot the first issue, then figured out what the problem was, and then ordered the part. They also did the same thing to the refrigerator and ordered the part. When the part came in, they came in and replaced it. It worked the first time, and I was on my way.

The technicians were prepared. They were knowledgeable, and they did the job on time. I would recommend them again. If I ever have any problems in the future, I would like for them to be the one to come out. They were very thorough. I’m satisfied. American Home Shield is the best way to go. The bottom heating element inside my oven stopped working. I called Home Shield to schedule a time for them to replace it. Within 10 minutes of submitting the request, I received an email that my claim had been assigned to a vendor and that I would receive a call from them. A guy named Ethan came and he took a picture of the little plate inside the oven. I was under the impression that he would bring the part with him. But he reminded me that Home Shield had to order the part and that the process would take between five to seven business days.

Before I had a home warranty, I replaced simple parts like that plate myself. I wondered why ordering such a simple part would have to go through Home Shield when the tech could have just gone down the street to one of the local parts places and could have had it the same day. I discussed it with my sister and she said that it was due to AHS having bad experiences where vendors were charging more than they should for the part. So if they have to go through Home Shield, there is no foul play with prices. Also, the guy replaced the part but I didn't get any kind of paperwork. I should get some saying that the part had been replaced. Having AHS has been a pleasant experience for me.

Updated on 11/29/2020: This is an update to my original review posted on 11/21/2020. In that review I summarized the horrific experiences and fraudulent practices that I've endured dealing with AHS. An AHS representative immediately responded to my review and marked it as "in resolution." Don't let this fool you. I received a form email from someone and immediately responded within the hour.

After sending this individual several emails to follow up on their "desire to help" I have had no response. I've gone back to dealing with AHS via their phone center. It's still a disaster. I still don't have my money refunded. I've had to pay out of pocket for repairs. At this point all I want is to have my contract cancelled but it appears that I cannot do that either. This company is a scam and I am going to report them to the BBB and the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau because what they are doing is almost certainly illegal. Would recommend others do the same if they experience these shady business practices.

Original Review: I've been with AHS for over five years and have warranties on two properties with the company. Recently, I've had claims denied and/or the contractors never show up. There is no one who is able to respond to help me in the customer service department. Each time I call it's as if I am calling them for the first time for assistance. There is absolutely no follow through and nothing you can do to respond to you. Most recently, on 11/2/2020 I submitted a service request to have someone come out to my home and take a look at the water heater.

It is now 11/21/2020 and the contractor has not responded to any of my phone calls. I've contacted AHS at least eight times, waiting on the phone for long periods of time each call, and they've been unable or unwilling to transfer the service request to another contractor. They keep telling me they first need verbal approval from the first contractor (the one who isn't responding to my phone calls) before transferring the service. They also refuse to cancel the service call. And most recently, they are now also telling me that I cannot cancel my contract. I literally speak to a different person each time I call. I have no idea what is happening and each time I am given the run around. It's an absolutely horrible company and I would recommend that folks look elsewhere for help and service.

My heater didn't work. I went through American Home Shield's automated thing. I spoke to the Higginbottom’s guy when he came. He called me and told me when he was gonna come. He called me later that day and scheduled it for the next day. He was in and out. The repair helps out a lot because I can go from air conditioner one day to heater the next day. My experience with American Home Shield has been great except when I had the air conditioner fixed, I had to pay 2,200. They might have said something about the type of contract I had. I paid for it but I thought that was the whole point of American Home Shield. If they can't fix it, they'll replace it. I paid for the air conditioner. American Home Shield paid for the Freon. That was only like 10 bucks a gallon.

I've had American Home Shield on two other houses. I had it on this house and my other house that I sold. I've never had a problem with it before. But I've never had central air. And it was the inside unit that broke. It started off 3,200 but then it came down $1,000, so it's 2,200. I'm selling this house. I'm gonna leave Home Shield on until I sell the house and I'm gonna transfer it to the new house.

We're pleased with the service that's why we continue to keep using AHS. Recently, our furnace had turned off. With it being in the 10s and low 20s in the house, it was kind of important to get somebody out pretty quick. AHS was able to send out a technician that same morning that we called and he was able to fix it in no time. It was a great overall experience.

I had a home in Woburn for 20 years. I found that American Home Shield is a few dollars higher than some of the warranty providers and at one point, I said, “Let me try this other one.” I ended up trying two companies that supposedly saved me $30 a month, but when I called them, they didn’t cover it. I learned a lesson. A lot of the common things, American Home Shield cover 100%. Anytime I've called, they've replaced and always upgraded to a better unit. I'm impressed with that. Everything, they've done for me. I had a dryer that went. The girl said, “Let me upgrade it to a better one.” I had a clothes dryer that looked incredible as well. It looked like it came from a super movie. When we had a stove that went bad, it was upgraded. They've also changed two built-in air conditioners over those 20 years.

If you call in, the wait time will drive you crazy because they are so busy, and they're so big. It's a 20-minute wait or higher. However, they give you the option of putting you back in the line and they'll call you back. I'm old school though. I wait. I'm usually on the phone for half an hour before I get somebody. Still, I will never get rid of American Home Shield. I recommend them all the time. I tell people, “Don't get caught trying to save 20 or 30 bucks a month. That’s $300 a year you’ll make up in one repair." American Home Shield covers tons of stuff, while most of the others don't. I sold the home last year and bought this other house in Billerica.

Recently, I've had a couple of plumbers out here and D & S was super. The first repair was the leak in the kitchen. The plumber came out, saw the issue where the leak was in the sink. Something was corroded, and they ordered a new one and put it in. That went perfect. Five days later, we found my water heater was leaking and I had another company that came out from American Home Shield, originally. They said that it was an 80-gallon water tank. "It's too big, and it's leaking, and we don't want to take it out of here.” I called American Home Shield. I said, "I'm 77 years old. I think this guy wants me to leave the water heater here or take it out myself." I asked them to please assign me somebody else and they reassigned to D & S.

The same guy, David, came out and went through the repair. It turned out it wasn't the water heater at all. It was a leak from the top of the water heater. The pipes that corroded and leaked down leaked to the front of the water heater. He said, “Your problem is not the water heater. Your heater is six years old. It'll last another 10 years." He replaced the piping up there and cleaned it up. The guy saved me a lot of aggravation. I was gonna have to get rid of an old water heater. Both jobs, the guy was pleasant, sweet, super-nice, and I’d recommend him highly.

The problem was there for me to click as well so I didn't have to type anything out. It was a little delayed because of parts, and then I got a different repairman the second time around, so he wasn't quite sure to do what the first guy was thinking. But in the end, my problem was fixed, which is all I cared about. Home Shield is everything I thought.

MD Appliance came out two times - one for the dishwasher and the other time was for my microwave. The dishwasher was leaking underneath and their technician came out. He said he fixed it but a few days later, I tried to run the dishwasher and it started leaking again. I called them back and they decided to replace the whole unit. With the microwave, their tech found that the main board was fried. He ordered the part and replaced it. The techs who came out were good. They wore masks and gloves and were very conscientious of health. They had identification and they explained the situation very well. They gave me an estimated timeline and gave me a point of contact at their facility that, should I have any questions or concerns, I could call their main office.

The companies American Home Shield has sent out are great. But trying to speak to someone at AHS takes hours. I've had situations where I was on hold for hours to get a resolution on certain things. The contractor even said to me it's going to take up to a week to try to get someone at AHS to answer the phone so that they can tell AHS what the problem is and AHS can authorize them to order the part. But other than that, it's a great product and the website is very user-friendly.

I had Sears Home Warranty, but it only covered appliances. Home Shield covers electrical, plumbing, everything. It pays for itself. How can you not do it? The first plumbing service that Home Shield sent out was not so good. The tech was a nice guy. But between the two visits to our house, he spent a total of four minutes between the two combined. He said, “I can't open anything up to look at your plumbing. You have to have someone else do it.” And I said, “Okay, why?” He said, “Well, you have to have an asbestos test.”

Apparently, being in California, that’s the law, so we had to pay $600 for an asbestos test. And then he came back out and he was like, “Well, they're supposed to make holes for me.” I said, “Wait, there's no asbestos. There's no mold. They tested it. We spent almost $600, Here's the reports that you asked for. They're filed with the state. Here's a copy for you.” “I still can't do anything,” and walked out. But both times, he also said, “Well, here's this other restoration company I’m okay with. Call them and tell them that you're working with me, and they'll give you a good cash price.” That alerted my radar. A big, waiving red flag in a hurricane.

The second one, Plymwr Plumbing, was top-of-the-line. However, Home Shield is supposed to call me back for two days to repair the hole in the drywall and the hole in the house outside that the plumbers had to use to get access. I'm still waiting to hear back on this latest one to get our drywall repaired. Hopefully, before Christmas.

He answered all of my questions. He told me what his approach was going to be for the repair and then when he determined what the problem was, he told me that needed to order another part and approximately how long that would take. They then followed up with a phone call letting me know that they had the part and scheduling a new repair date. The process ended up taking about eight days. He installed the new part and did a test run. The dryer seems to be working fine.

The Nova HVAC was very pleasant, very professional, talked to us, told us what changed in this and showed us the piece that they were replacing. We had another experience. We were getting a new sump. American Home Shield sent a company out from West Virginia and I live in Clinton, Maryland. The company came out and said, “Okay, we’re gonna order, we gotta do this.”

They hadn't come back, so we started reaching out to them and called Birch Street, in West Virginia. They never answered the phone and never called back. We tried to figure out what was going on, we wanted this sump pump put in. Then, it rained and it poured, and it cost me $10,000 worth of damage in my basement. Now my insurance company paid six and I had to pay an additional four. I ended up getting an independent company. They put a sump pump in and it cost me $1,900. I called American Home Shield and I told them. They said, “Okay. Send us the invoice, we'll reimburse you.” Then finally, they told me they called that company, and the company told them that the whole value was 400 and something dollars. I paid $1,900 dollars to get a sump pump that they should have put in, then they reimbursed me for 400 something dollars. I'm only waiting till I can settle down, so I can get rid of AHS. It was terrible.

For the most part, we like American Home Shield. But we had to really look at the contract and scrutinize everything before we decide whether we're calling or not because we found some things that weren't covered that we thought were covered. Also, it can be kind of a pain sometimes in trying to get through to somebody. But now, my wife does what she can online. A while back, there was an issue that she couldn't get it done online. So then, she had to call and deal with phone call stuff a lot. But other than that, we're happy with them.

We've had a handful of things we've called about. We had a couple of fairly minor plumbing issues and the problem we had there was the contractor that they sent out. The first time, they were fine. The same company came out the next time but it was a different guy. The claim was about some of the shutoff valves that were failing. The guy said they had to be rebuilt, which sounded weird to me that they wouldn't cover that. So we had to call our own plumber. For another couple hundred dollars with a different plumber, he said that was ridiculous. The first guy said he couldn't replace the valves. But when our plumber came out, he swapped them out in about 10 minutes.

The waterline in the fridge kept freezing. I'd defrost it and it would refreeze again. GE Appliances have been out here prior for the same issue. So they came again and they said that they believed the door was the issue. They ordered a new door but when it came, the handle didn't fit. They didn't make the right door where these handles would fit and they didn't send handles. Other than that, the claims submission with American Home Shield was super easy. I've had a few things fixed and they do a great job. People who are considering purchasing a home warranty should do it.

My water heater had cold water for the whole weekend. I called my Home Shield to have a plumber come out. They said because of COVID, they needed me to submit a picture of the water heater and a picture of the label on the water heater, and they let me know that the water heater needed to be replaced. I asked them if it was a possibility to get a tankless water heater. And they said, “You have to have an upgrade on your electrical.” And many times it’s more expensive and I would have to pay out of pocket if I wanted a tankless. They said I had to have a 60/60 volt on my electrical, which I didn’t have. So, I waited and was trying to get a couple of quotes myself. I wanted to know if they would give a cashout option if I decided to get a tankless. It took a couple of days, but they gave me a quote of 1,200.

I was never able to get ahold of an electrician so I decided just to go with the original. So, they sent out an electrician just to switch out the tank, and this happened last weekend. They were great. They came once last November. I had to have them snake my drain in my toilet. The company had him out there within a day. They were super fast. They would have been faster with this other, except for I was trying to get some information and trying to make the decision. The owner called me a couple of times when I was trying to make decisions. And then his technician who’s named Keoni was wonderful.

American Home Shield told me that they would call in a few days and that they were going to leave a message. But I didn't get the message from them. When I called American Team, they said that they sent in their report to American Home Shield. I waited another fours day to call and know what happened. American Home Shield told me that it was because the American Team was asking for one piece and that it was going to be there in about three days, which was true. They came out and fixed my heater. The temperature in the house wasn't matching the thermostat that was on the wall. The tech that AHS sent came out and he looked at the one downstairs, and he changed that one, saying that the sensor was off. I told him the one upstairs, the bedroom temperature doesn’t match the thermostat either. He said okay. But he was like, “Just leave your room door open, so the airflow will come through.” It doesn't work like that and it was still hot in the room at nighttime.

I called Beaches Air again and told them that the other technician didn't look or check the temperature upstairs in the bedroom to make sure it matches. So, they sent out another technician, and he told me exactly what was wrong. It was just the layout of the house, with the intake in between two air vents in the master bedroom. He was like, “Your intake should have been on the other side of the room when they built the house. But since they didn't, it's sucking out all the cold air that’s coming in,” which makes sense. He told me how to fix that, which was to cover up the intake in the bedroom so that the airflow can stay in the room and not be sucked out as soon as it comes in. Everything's working better now.

The last time I spoke to the guy was about two weeks ago where they gave a quick call to say that they're still waiting on a part in order to complete the repair.

I've been using American Home Shield for a number of years because I had a couple of rental properties and American Home Shield was the service provider for those. They are still the industry leader. Other providers, while they may be out there, the question is gonna be about their coverages. American Home Shield at this point still has the best coverage. However, the visit fee went up a few years back and it's been hanging out at the $75 mark. With it going up, each time you have to make the call, it's more significant.

We called American Home Shield again and told them that we wanted to change the contractor. We complained about Austin because they were not very responsible. We didn't like them at all. My washer wasn't working and when the techs came out, they fixed the problem. It took a little longer than I expected for the parts to come in but nonetheless, it got fixed. Submitting claims with AHS has been relatively easy, too. But people should know what's covered and what's not. Sometimes they don't cover everything. In my rental house for example, they repaired an upstairs bathroom, but they left a hole in the ceiling downstairs and that was not covered. Maybe that should be addressed.

I also feel that with the last things that I had repaired such as the AC unit, the heater and so forth, the range of the companies that AHS use in town aren't so great all the time. Neither is their service. And iIf they're going to use a licensed contractor, maybe they should let the consumer pick who to use or at least give us some options.

And within a couple of months, we were like, “We’re gonna continue this.” It has been great. Our recent claim was the $75, and they come and do a tune-up or check out your heater. I went online and clicked the segment that said “do it”. And then, the contractors sent a text message. After they were assigned, I received a text message from American Home Shield, too. And then it was also online, saying that North Star was the one that had been assigned to that. They called before they were coming and they showed up on time. My husband was the one that was downstairs in the basement with the heater with them. And he said that they were very professional. They gave him a lot of tips on how to keep it running better. When filing the claim online, it doesn't tell who you're going to have at first, and both times, it would be 10 days out, over a week, and that’s too long. I clicked the option that none of these work for me. Then, it gave me the number of Ashman Appliance Service, and I called him right away. He said he would come out the next day, and he did. So, it was either a 10-day wait online, or I call them direct, and they were out the next day.

Ashman came out twice. The first time was because of our fridge. It wasn't cooling. The second time was for the element that went out on our stove. Both times, we were very happy with their service. They were very professional and clean. They asked over the phone about COVID to make sure everything was fine before they came in. They wore their masks and they were even very friendly on the phone when I first called them. Just right out of the blue, I called, and the guy had me walk over to the fridge and walked me through checking a couple things, and he said that he knew what it was, and fixed it. We were very satisfied.

People should definitely use American Home Shield. Just make sure the issue is not something you could do on your own first because it's a $135 flat fee. If it turns out to be something that you can do yourself just by looking at YouTube, if you're not too nervous about it, do it then it might save you some money that way. But otherwise, as far as calling and getting it taken care of, I'm very happy with it.

I was ready to ask for my money back with American Home Shield when I had a claim for the shower. There was no water coming out and we thought it was the shower valve. So they sent over a plumber. We're in California and COVID’s pretty high, but the plumber came in without a mask, and he was filthy. There's no reason for a plumber to be filthy, tracking dirt and mud throughout the entire house. We had ground concrete and I wasn’t looking to re-clean the floors.

I brought a part from Home Depot in anticipation that it was the problem. It's the part where the handle comes out and you control the water. The plumber put it in but it's a multi-layered part. There was a piece of chrome around it, and he started carrying on that he didn't do cosmetic work. But he did it and we put the water on it. It's a dual headed shower but only one of the shower heads was working. So I bought a shower head as well because I didn't know what was wrong with the shower. My husband asked the plumber to put it on and he started carrying on that it was dishonest. It was just insane. I thought it should have been part of fixing the shower. But I ended up getting an outside handyman to put in the shower head.

I put in a claim when the toilet started leaking. Kudos to American Shield as they expedited the request. I wanted to have a working toilet over the weekend. A different plumber came over and we thought he fixed it. It was dry and he left. But then it started leaking again out of the valve. So I called again and they sent over a different plumbing company. But I turned off the valve because I didn't want it to leak. So when the plumber came, nothing was leaking. The rep told me that I could call the plumber if it leaks again. She added that he tightened everything.

It started leaking again, so I put a glass underneath it. The plumber came back yesterday and he had to replace the gaskets on the supply line. So everything is now working and I'm pleased with it. But I was really taken aback by the first plumber. It's kinda hard to strike a contractor from American Home Shield's record because I didn't want the first guy back without the mask, with the mess and with his belligerence. I didn't even want his company back. But now, I ask for the plumber I want. We also sent in a service request for the AC check up and then a separate visit for the heating check. We paid for that and technician who came out was good.

When submitting a claim, I would recommend that consumers call to explain the problem. I did the claim online the first time with the shower to explain what the problem was but American Home Shield has limited choices. The only choice for the shower was the faucet. There's no box for text to say exactly what you're experiencing, so it really limits what you can do online. But when you call in, it's time consuming.

If American Home Shield is a company providing service, there should be a place where you could call if you're having problems. There's no one to complain to because you're dealing with the Philippines call center, and they can only do what they can do, so you can't escalate anything and you can't explain the problem. You can't even write to anybody. I tried to go online to write to people in the parent company and everything bounced back.

Whenever we use the sink, the water leaks. Under it, it looked like it had something leaking. That’s why I called Home Shield to order. The good thing was the technician could find that. He not only fixed the problem but he identified the cause for that - to look around the sink. Some sealing around the sink looked old so they could not seal anymore. So from there, they go under the sink and they can damage. The tech showed me that was the reason. And if that could be fixed right away to prevent the damage of the whole thing around that area. That's a good thing. I learned from watching, identifying and fixing the problem for me. However, sometimes if we needed something urgent Home Shield cannot because the contractor normally schedules one or two weeks to come to fix the problem. If something unique, right away, like reaching the 24 hours, you cannot wait because that's water. Other than that, Home Shield is very good.

My kitchen sink and the bathroom tub was clogging up. The guy told me that it must have been some grease down the drain. He did snake it and he pulled a little bit of grease out. He said that didn’t unstop it and that it needed to be snaked from the outside of the house on top of the roof where the little pipe is.

Every now and again, my plumbing stops up. Each time American Home Shield sends somebody to my house, they get out as far as they can and every single time they do that, they say they can't go any further. My plumbing doesn't get unstopped. One time I had to have Roto-Rooter to come out. They snaked it out as far as they had to to get it unstopped. I don't know how far 500 feet can go but I think it should be stretched a little bit more than that. I don't have the drain on the outside of my house so I'm not sure how big of a difference that would make if I had the big plumbing thing on the outside.

It's still an open claim. I didn't realize that some things are not covered under the warranty. So, I need to look into which one is covered and which one is not before I make the call. Because when the tech comes out and says that it's not covered by AHS, I'm out $100 copay. If I want to fix it, then I have to pay directly to the vendor.

They literally make it so much easier to deal with. We've had coverage with them for about three years. When Comfort First came, they were amazing. They were like a unified team. I've never seen anything like it. It was like they were in unison with each other. They explained the situation for like HVAC for dummies so that I would understand it. Everything has been working fine. They went above and beyond what they were here for. My daughter fell and she hurt herself and they helped me with her. Once they were finished, they stopped and instead of just leaving, they bothered helping me with my daughter. You can’t pay for that.

AHS has failed to make a coverage determination, authorize service, or provide status updates. AHS was able to charge me $100 for a service call, and a contractor came out but provided no service. I have called AHS multiple times. I tried to email AHS customer service but the email was bounced due to a "permanent fatal error" of the email address listed on the company's website. As of today, 11/20/20, I still have an active leak without any service by AHS. I've had to turn off the water at my house to prevent further damage. This company does not provide service, blocks any attempts to escalate or complain, but gladly takes your money. I do not recommend!

Do not purchase American Home Shield if you have any hopes of ever having an appliance repaired. Take the monthly fee, put it in your savings- you are far ahead of the game. They send incompetent contractors, who fail to fix/install properly, & it is now your problem to deal with. Delays in authorizing parts will run you weeks into months, while you hang on the phone often for 2 hours on hold. They tell you they will "expedite" your repair- only no such thing exists. It is an abomination that this company still exists. Cancelling resulted in them charging me anyway, and my bank had to investigate. AVOID THIS COMPANY!

We were having trouble with our refrigerator. The freezer was freezing, but the refrigerate part was not getting anything cold. The tech came out the same day I made the order to see what it needed. Then he came back the day after when the part came in. It had froze over in the back, and he had to defrost and cut the ice from the back of the refrigerator. It looked like we didn't even need the part. He was able to fix it and now it's been running fine.

If I do my claim online, it's simple. But if I call, I would be on hold longer than an hour and a half. I would put the phone down while I cleaned the house. I cleaned my whole house before they picked it. But the lady was really nice when she came on. Now the coronavirus makes everything delayed, so I did the claim online this time and the rep called 10 minutes after I submitted it. My husband called American Home Shield when we had some molds and he got so frustrated because he was on hold for an hour, so he hung up, and then I had to call back. So calling in is a task, but if you do it online, you can get through a lot faster. American Home Shield should have a quicker response. Because a lot of people wants American Home Shield to call them back because they’re scared they’re not gonna call back, and then they wasted that time when they could’ve went online.

When American Home Shield had the guy to fix the air conditioner, he didn't fix anything. He told us the issue was just the filters, but it wasn’t still getting cool upstairs. So we had to call after paying them the fee. We had to pay another guy $400 to come back out and fix the problem. He had to clean the coils. When I talked to the lady at Home Shield, she said they don't cover that and the antifreeze or the Freon they have to put in. They only covered very little. They didn't didn't cover if it has to be refilled and you have to pay for it. But I thought that was covered under the warranty when the air needed to be fixed. So American Home Shield have somebody come out and tell you that the air conditioner needs to be cleaned, and that is a little misleading.

Only one remote was still working on one of the clicks and it's the one I put in my truck. So I called back which I’m now having to spend more money. They were supposed to be here today but the guy had an emergency so they're going to be here Monday.

They didn't pay attention to what I said. I explained what it was. They’d have to program my remote but I also needed someone to get into the unit. They were telling me that the remotes wouldn’t program if those are okay. I said, “Then why are they losing their programming?” The garage door people were not understanding what the issue was. I was a professional for 35 years. If I had done my job like that, I would have been fired.

I was told I would get contacted in a timely manner but that has not happened here and I've talked with six people. I ended up calling the electrician that came out. But Dennis Electrical was very good. They fixed those outlets then. I asked about my electrical bed and they said they didn't know anything about electrical beds. When I called the sixth time and talked with John, he informed me the electrical beds weren’t covered. I told him when I called and mentioned the electrical bed, I was told they're covered. He was the first one that told me that wasn't covered. I had about three of them tell me that they would call me back within 24 hours but I never got a call back.

Now I got to find someone that does electrical beds. I would have been better off with my money that I’m paying each month just to hire an electrician come do my outlets then call a garage door company. The contractors are consistently the same ones, which I like because I know who's coming. I feel they're honest and they do the job. If it's not done, they come back and complete it. I've been happy with the contractors through American Home Shield. I'm disappointed with American Home Shield though. Right now, I have an issue with my washing machine. The contractor came out to deal with my dishwasher and my washing machine. They were great, timely and were telling me about when the parts were coming and to come out to schedule to put it in. But American Home Shield has not been forthright in telling me when my washing machine is gonna be replaced. The contractor said it was gonna cost more to fix it than to replace it. So, I still don't have a washing machine and I get the same information. Last week, I got the information that they needed to get an approval, or it was approved but that they needed to do this and that.

When I called yesterday, it was almost like I had to start all over again with the same information because they did not have the paper trail from the week before. I'm not getting any information and they don't contact me unless I contact them. That happened once before when I had plumbing issues. The plumber was very forthright and told me what was gonna happen and the cost that was gonna have to come out of my pocket. But American Home Shield never contacted me to tell me that this had been approved, and this is what I had to do. I had to call them to get the ball rolling because contractors can't do it unless American Home Shield says what they can and cannot do or approves it. American Home Shield seems like they dropped the ball. Why can't they call me and say, “We're still updating.” Why can't they email me? They email me for everything else.

What happened with my plumbing is they closed out the service, but they didn't follow up because the service had not been completed. You can't close something out if it hasn't been completed. American Home Shield drops the ball when it comes to following up. Then I stay on the line each time. Last week with my washing machine, I stayed on the line for over an hour. It felt like that because I keep being put on hold. Then yesterday, it was the same thing.

They could improve on their communication. I get emails multiple times during the week from Home Shield about this and about that. I don't understand why they can't email me about the update. Each contractor forewarned me that parts may take longer because of the virus. I've never had a delay with the contractors. I have a delay with American Home Shield. I like the fact that I can call them and they can find contractors. I don't have to find them. Right now, I'm satisfied with the contractors they find. So, I would recommend them because I think they do a good job in the contractors that they hire. I just think that the communication is bad. Everybody I know has American Home Shield and we all say the same thing.

We filed a claim. The man didn’t come. A couple of weeks later, we found out he had died. We did not say anything because we knew people had to be reorganized. We waited and tried again. On August 20, before the storm, the assigned man said that he didn't have the time to come and look at it. We had a storm on August 27th and still, no ice. The storm came and the refrigerator, when we turned the electricity back on, which was out from August until September, didn’t work then. We have been without a refrigerator since July. Then September came. When a team of people came by to pick up the refrigerator, I put it by the road. All the time, I was trying to deal with American Home Shield.

I had only paid my $75 deductible. So then, we bought a refrigerator. I told American Home Shield that I got rid of it. They said that I should send them a letter. I kept sending and faxing letters trying to get this settled. Finally, it came up for my American Home Shield to be renewed, and I wouldn’t renew it under these circumstances. I’ve had them many times before and I’ve always recommended them. But I wouldn’t recommend them again. It’s not my fault that nobody came, that the technician died, and they assigned me to another one. Till this day, I have not received the $75 deductible that I had paid in July. I have been on the phone for hours and they would put me on hold every time. I did not want that. The only thing I know to do is just try to sue them because it’s not right.

#1 Garage Door came for my garage door that would close but would not open properly. We had to pull the little string on it to make it operate. They've been out a month earlier because we were having problems with the garage door and it was a quick fix. The gentleman knew exactly what the problem was. He came in and looked, and he said the sensors were not aligned. He aligned them and he was gone.

A month later, it was going haywire again so when we called back, we didn't make a copay. When the gentleman got here, he immediately noticed that something had broken at the top of the garage door and it was not covered under American Home Shield. He had to replace both the springs and the rollers and it was $550 which I was very concerned about because I wasn’t prepared to have to do that especially after already paying the $100 a month before. But the gentleman was very professional and very helpful. I don't have any problems with the work that was done at all.

My last experience was with the HVAC and they had to dispatch a company five times before we got anything done. I ended up calling someone local to fix it. It was in the middle of the summer and we were without air conditioning for almost two weeks. That was maybe 2 years ago and it was not a happy time. I was not real thrilled with American Home Shield then at all. But my experiences recently have been totally the opposite. When I called American Home Shield before, I had to wait on the phone for so log. This time, there was no problem. Both times recently, I have either gotten on the line or gotten on the phone, and got immediate customer service, got a response back immediately in terms of telling me who would be assigned to my issue. It went real smooth the last couple months and I appreciate excellent service when I get it.

When I moved into this house, I was leasing. A year later, I purchased the house and we went through a whole new process with American Home Shield because they have to have the information on the ownership. They have my phone number, my everything, but they never changed the name on it and I've told them a couple of times.

I had an icemaker that wasn't working. I called Home Shield on the phone. It took a week for a contractor to come out, but the GE repair guy made sure he came on that day and came a little early. He was very courteous and explained to me what he was doing, and ordered a part for me and it got here timely. Everything went well with him. The unit is better than the icemaker I had at first. I feel Home Shield is a good company. It works out well with everything.

The tech did a good job with our water heater. Everything's been good since the repair. When we submitted the claim, we had to call because our address was under the previous owner's name. We bought the house this year. That was the only struggle we had. We had to get the old people's names off the account. AHS resolved it really quick and easy.

The bearing in our washer quit and the drum couldn’t spin. The technician who came out assessed it and gave us a quote. I had the quote maybe a half hour later. Then, I was able to submit that quote in to American Home Shield, and we proceeded with the exchange of a new washer. American Home Shield has a good claims submission process. I like how I'm able to select what I'm calling about when I initially call to file a claim. If you get American Home Shield, it's worth it.

It was really simple to submit the claim and get passed to the contractor. I didn't have to handle anything. The contractor called when they were coming. The garbage disposal was locked up. It was humming and operating but it wouldn't spin. It's the third time that it happened in about two years. I explained it to the repairman when he got here, and he said he would check it out to see if he could fix it. My concern was that I didn't want to keep spending $75 deductible if the thing kept locking up every year. The garbage disposal was rusted stuck so he replaced the unit. I was really satisfied with that outcome. He also gave me a tip to help maintain it in the future so it doesn't rust up as easy. He was in and out pretty quickly. It was smooth and easy.

We just purchased a new home in July. We bought a brand new home 'cause we didn't want any issues but after living there for just a couple of months, our brand new refrigerator went out. It was $100 deductible versus having to buy a whole new refrigerator. That's how AHS is beneficial to me and I've already tried to get both of my sisters to sign on to the program.

I was a little unhappy with the service but AHS rectified that. They sent out a company who should be taken off their list. When they came out to evaluate the situation, they said that they weren't able to fix it then they closed the case. I had to call back and ask them what were they gonna do. How could they close something that's not corrected? The lady was so good. I told her I would stay on the phone 'til she found a company that could come out and repair it, not send somebody to evaluate it. It took her six people before she finally found a reputable company. They finally fixed it. It took them a couple weeks because the part took so long to order but I understand that COVID has slowed down things.

The disposal was leaking and it would not run, and I couldn't drain anything out of my sink. It was a week before thanksgiving and my 95-year-old mother came to visit me yesterday. So, SWAT Plumbing was extremely efficient and awesome. I loved them. Every time I have had an issue, I have not had any problems with American Home Shield at all. I've been very happy with them. They outsource their issues with local people and the two that they have chosen have been great. We bought an eight-year-old house and we jumped at the chance to get AHS. We lived in the Virgin Islands for 23 years and if we could have had that there, I would have been in heaven. We probably will be renewing with AHS. It’s up on the 29th.

I filed the claim for the water heater and then I was able to get someone that came out. There was $100 that I had to pay. The guy said that the people before did something to the water heater when they were asked to fix it. He said it made the water heater break, and that they were gonna have to replace it with a new one. I asked him what I needed to do and he said, "You don't need to do anything. They're gonna call you to set up an appointment." He said it should be on Friday. But I haven't heard anything. I was a little bit worried.

I checked my emails and I had some emails from HSA. There was an email confirming the initial appointment with the plumber and then I had a new email from American Home Shield that said, "Urgent," and, "About your plumbing request." They stated that I needed to call them about it. So I gave them a call on a Monday and the guy was very hard to understand. He said they could get them in by Friday. I asked him if there was any way they could do it sooner. He said Friday was the earliest date. So I agreed to do it on Friday. I asked him if he could go over my warranty with me because I don't know anything about it. He said I was getting my water heater replaced in a very strong Indian accent. So there was miscommunication.

I asked the rep if I had to pay anything and he said he didn't know. I told him I needed to know what I was being charged for. Because I know what water heaters cost and that I can get help to put one in if it's going to be a crazy cost. I was not sure what costs were associated with it. But he said he couldn't do that. So I asked if I could talk to someone who can explain my warranty to me and he said that could be him. His supervisor was not available. He said she could give me a call in about four hours. I was not sure what was going on. I asked him if this was HSA and he said, "This is Home Shield." I asked him what association do they have with HSA? He said, "We have your warranty." I asked him again to tell me how much I was going to pay. This went around in circles. I was getting frustrated.

I asked him if he was contracted out and he said, "No, I work for this company." But how could he not tell me about my policy? I confirmed my identity and he told me he was booking everything. After a significant amount of time, he finally pulled up my warranty. He had it the whole time. He said, "If you go to section F, you'll see that if you make modifications, we are only paying." Then he said it was around $500 or so of the total price rather than the whole thing. But I read through the contract and said that the whole thing could be taken care of, and now I was gonna have to pay $1,000 for something that should have been paid. I asked him if I could speak to his supervisor. I would like to understand what was going on with my contract because this was not making any sense. I didn't make modifications. He said he would have his supervisor call me.

I got a call with no voicemail from what I believe was the supervisor. I missed it. I tried to call back but it went to a dead end. There was no voicemail. So I was frustrated. I went to my real estate agent. I told her that I didn't know if someone was going to show up on Friday and then I was going to have to pay $1,500. So she ended up reaching out to her rep and they said that they would give me a number of someone I could actually talk to. Now, I've tried both numbers. I've tried HSA and it took me to a voicemail system. I couldn't get a representative to talk to me.

I got a number to call Darla. Before I called Darla, I called the plumbing agency. I asked them if they had an order to come out and install my water heater. The guy said they didn't have anything. So I ended up booking my own appointment through Prime Plumbing because they have nothing from HSA and the first availability they have was a week later. Then I left a voicemail for Darla saying to call me back. She sent me an email saying, "If you need to figure out what's going on, Prime Plumbing is coming on Tuesday." I knew that. But I wanted to have a conversation about this policy or talk to someone on the phone.

It was impossible to get someone on the phone. I emailed Darla back everything that went on and that's where we're at now. It looks like I'm gonna get the water heater installed on Tuesday. But I don't have any confirmation of that outside of Darla's recent email. The best thing was the website. It worked well. But Darla not calling me back when I asked her to call me back and sending me a short email was pretty bad. Nothing's been resolved. It's been one of the worst customer services that I've had.

My water went out about almost a month and a half. Sigmond Plumbing came out and replaced it. And then I paid $75 for him to come out, and then $460 because it didn't have an expansion tank. I just bought the home. They installed the new water heater, expansion tank, and then a line or something that’s longer. They were wonderful.

It took a while for them to come out for the air conditioning. But the gentleman came out and he was awesome. It was definitely leaking, but he said that sometimes, the condensation would cause that. I told him it's leaking a colored fluid. He said it needed a tray. They didn’t put a tray on underneath it. He was gonna send me how much it would be to see if they would put a tray in. Also, I asked the drain line because it's in the garage where it’s leaking and I can’t pull my car in there. I have a sports car and I don’t want it dripping on it. He said they would send me an estimate of what they would charge me to come out and put the tray in, and he thought that would be warrantied to move the PVC pipe over. But I haven't heard from him. Other than that, I called and they got me hooked up. That was great.

I'm from Washington State, and now I’m in Florida, and a few years since I’ve used Home Shield home warranty. I've had them on homes before. I had a pump that went out, but they never charged me a dime. The contractor came out and checked it out. They said yes, it needed to be replaced, and when they would be back to replace it. I also had an air conditioner on another home that wasn't producing overnight. So, I called because I didn't know what was going on. And of course, I had purchased Home Shield, and the tech came out. They replaced a new air conditioner outside and didn't charge me anything. The only thing I was disappointed in is they charge the 75 bucks, but I get it. There's a lot of fraud. And I'm sure because of the type of business they have, it becomes expensive when people are just trying to get away with stuff.

I talked to the air conditioning technician about that. He agreed that for whatever reason, they do have that now. He was informative. The gentleman that came out for the water heater, the same thing. Because they told me, it would be $460 and I went, “Whoa, wait a minute. I paid $75. That's all I was told to pay.” It was hard to fork out 460 bucks plus the 75. But at least they explained it to me and I understood.

My Realtor, because they're with Coldwell Banker, referred me and have the brochure for Home Shield. I get why, but going through the brochure, it doesn't stand out that you pay $75. I was shocked. And then later, the double shot, 460 bucks. So, in the brochure, it's great because you get to pick what kind you want, but it needs to be for the customer so they're not surprised that it's a $75. You're fulfilling your deductible. Other than that, both experiences as far as their technicians themselves were awesome. I know a couple that are buying a condo, and I told them they need to get the warranty because I bought the same thing for my daughter's condo.

OneWay Electrical came out to change the breaker on the fuse box. When he got there, I told him exactly what I needed him to look at. Because I'm in the process of selling the home, and that was all I told him. I said, “Look, I just need you to check the wiring and to make sure that the breaker that's on that wiring is the right amperage.” And that's what he did. He looked at it, and he said, “Based on the wiring, it should be…” There was a 40 amp on there. He said it should be a 30 amp. He changed it to a 30 amp.

However, we did have a problem when we called to report the issue because we were connected to someone in the Philippines and that was a very difficult transaction. American Home Shield should give us somebody who can speak English. It was very difficult to communicate with that person. She could not tell us what needed to be done. We also had to wait about a week for someone to get out here to diagnose the problem and see if they could fix it. On top of that, I was a little surprised when we had to pay a fee just to have somebody come out and look at it since we pay quite a bit for American Home Shield to have that coverage.
