I like that I can call AHS and get my claim taken care of or I can submit it online. I did it online this time and they had someone within 24 hours coming out for our leaking toilet. The tech thought the base was cracked. So they addressed it in a timely manner. One time, we had a hard process. It was a hot summer and we had to order a piece for our air conditioner. But it wasn't AHS's fault it took a while to get the piece in. I'm also surprised at how big the service call is. It's $75 a service call and I pay $60 a month. But with the service call, that's all you pay and everything else is covered.

The guy came out here, saw what the problem was and said he had ordered the parts because it's an older model. When he got the parts, he called me and he installed them in seconds. We had good conversation. This was the second time I used AHS and from what I've received, it’s been great. In both cases, I got a phone call from the contractor to schedule an appointment. I had no problems whatsoever.

I had the same problem I had with my dishwasher. The water is at the bottom of it. The last guy that came out didn't fix the problem. Shortly after that, it was reoccurring. I called it in and the lady from American Home Shield said she was gonna call the company who came out, and they were gonna call me back. It’s Thanksgiving tomorrow and my dishwasher is still not fixed. So this is a terrible experience. But the previous claim that I had for my washer and dryer was a good experience. They couldn't fix the washer and they told me they were allowed to give me the cost and value of what they would have bought or I could get a check and buy my own. I chose to buy my own washer and dryer.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

TC Homes, the contractor, took care of the issue with the AC. I need to follow up with them because of one item but otherwise, everything went well. The tech was professional and friendly. I appreciate his responsiveness. He came back a second time when we called because the person at the property is elderly and didn't understand something that he had said before.

The claim submitted to Home Shield was for an oven repair. The contractor came very quickly, got the part, fixed the oven. It took half an hour or so and everything was fixed. It went very well.
Hi Bauer,

Submitting a claim is easy now because you can just do it online and then you get the callback. In the summer, if my air conditioning goes out, that is more frustrating just because it takes a bit longer to get somebody out. But they always do their best with trying to fix things. Our house is under contract. During the inspection, they found a leak on part of the water heater, one of the pipes. The guys came out and fixed it, and they were quick and nice. They wore masks. And the water heater is in the garage, so they kept their distance. I like Home Shield. They have been able to repair everything that we've called them about.

Appliance Express readjusted the temperature which didn't work. The oven is burning now and not cooking on the inside. But the guy that came out was super. Everybody that AHS sends is pretty good. I had one bad experience from a guy at USA Air, Bobby. One of his employees stole a part off my air conditioner and left my husband and I in 100-something degree days in the heat.
It takes so long to get ahold of American Home Shield when you're calling in. It's all pre-recorded instead of getting ahold of a real person where you can say, "I'm getting my air conditioning replaced so I need to cash out." The cost is also going up and it is a little insane but we pay it because it's a good gig. It works. It used to be a couple of days but their techs are coming out now a little bit quicker except for the guy that stole stuff off our air conditioner.
Thanks for sharing your feedback.

I had an ongoing issue with my refrigerator and American Home Shield sent the same company out about five separate times but I wasn't satisfied with the service from that particular company. Then I had running water in my toilet. It would just run it periodically throughout the day and night. For this instance with the plumber, he did a real good job. He's the best person that they've ever sent out. They answered all the questions that I had. He wasn't trying to sell me a bag of goods. He just offered that there were other things that they could do if I'd need them. They were definitely top-notch.
There are some pluses and minuses to American Home Shield. The online claims process is pretty user-friendly. But I'd pay 70 bucks a month and then I gotta pay 75 when someone would come out. So I would recommend shopping around and see there may be someone that provides that equal or pretty comparable level of service and has a cheaper monthly rate. Also, be careful with the contractors that they're sending out 'cause some have been really good and the other ones have been below average.

In the past, I've had other people look at my machine and I've had the same problem over and over. After I had the part replaced a thousand times, the tech finally told me that it was not the problem. He found out that it was something else. He tried to order the part and they didn't have it. He said that they didn't make the parts for my machine anymore. He seemed to know everything that he was talking about and he was very friendly. He was on time. They were great and they stayed in touch with me a lot. American Home Shield did really good. But when I kept calling and asking them if the part was on backorder, they just said that it was out for order and that was two and a half weeks from the time that I had called them out. Then the very next morning, they called me and said that they were replacing it. Other than that, they’ve been really great.

Worst service ever! Been with American Home Shield for 8 years, never missed a payment. Had my first claim with them on water heater that had to be replaced. They came out, agreed it had to be replaced. 4 weeks later still without hot water. No calls, no texts and 2 hours of wasted calling in to hear same old message that It has been ordered. After giving up, I asked for a cash out (at lower price) but at least I could then go and buy my own water heater and install myself. Not so fast, they said "you need to purchase it yourself and submit all copies of who did the work before they would even consider the claim". TERRIBLE COMPANY, HORRIBLE CS, STAY AWAY!!!

Review is for my dealings with the AHS corporate HQ only, not the contractors. I just closed on an older house and received a 2-year AHS home warranty as part of the closing. Due to a clerical error, the start date for the coverage was set to begin in 2021, rather than 2020. So, when I tried to file a service request during the first month of coverage, it was invalid. It took 4 calls over 2 hours and 45 minutes of explaining my situation and waiting on hold to reach someone who could help me fix this simple mistake. When it was finally corrected, the agent told me my coverage was now in effect retroactive to the original start date.
When I pointed out that I hadn't actually been covered during that time, and would like my coverage to start that day instead, the agent just shrugged it off. I appealed, stating that I had spent almost 3 hours on the phone trying to fix this and was not asking for a rebate, but rather a correct start date, she was short with me and said I could call her supervisor if I wanted to... Nothing more. Needless to say, we haven't gotten off to a great start. We'll see how the service calls go...
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you.Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. I had placed a service order with American Home Shield on October 25, 2020. The service was never obtained, and cancelled the service and requested a refund. I was originally told 3-5 days and I would have the refund. I waited. No refund. I contacted back on the 10th and was told they would expedite. Several days later I heard back on the 18th that they had processed the request and I would receive in my bank account in 3-5 days. On November 24 I still had no refund and contacted my bank. My bank stated that AHS had just initiated the refund at 11:42AM PST on 11/24/2020. 6 days after AHS stated they initiated and 21 days after the first time I was told 3-5 days. I am not sure if they are lacking funds and about to go under, or why they have been continuously delaying refund requests, but this experience combined with the rude customer service will prevent me from renewing with the company.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. If your issue is unresolved, please contact us for assistance. Have a great week.

The guy was very approachable and very knowledgeable. I sat in the kitchen with him and he was showing me what he was doing and telling me what was wrong with the refrigerator. He kept me informed. It's a pretty big refrigerator but the compressor went out. It is in a compromising position way under the refrigerator and after parts and labor, it was better to get a new one. I had to order one but because of covid, I was unable to get it delivered. They told me they were going to deliver it in March but I'm still without a refrigerator today.
The process was very easy. With my other home warranty place, you have to talk to people and get the schedule through an operator. It was a hassle. But with AHS, scheduling a technician was very easy for me to do. AHS is a good company but the wait on the phone is ridiculous. There's also a language barrier. Some of the operators at AHS don't really understand and their accent is so heavy that I can barely understand them.

My experience was terrible. I would not recommend any of my family or friends to American Home Shield. It's a rip-off. I submitted the claim and everything was up to par at that point in time. Someone came out and gave an idea what the issue was with my air conditioner. Once they stated what was wrong with the air conditioner, American Home Shield told me how much it would cost to get it fixed. They said, "You can get another estimate if you like. This one is free of charge.” I said, "If it's free of charge, then there is no issue. Send someone else out. We can determine what it is and if that's the same issue before we spend all this money."
The second person came out and gave a total different opinion on what the issue was. I asked what do we do and they said they'd send somebody else out. The third person came out and said it was the same thing as the first person said it was. American Home Shield said they would refund me my service call fee. The service call was put in in September or August, and it was just done last week. They are continuously asking for their payment every month but I hadn't seen the service people, my air conditioner wasn't fixed and I haven't seen the refund for 130 some bucks as of today.
By the time we get through with the three or four months it took to get the thing fixed, that was another $150. I've spent $130 spent for a service call. Then the first guy that said it was the AC compressor charged me $250 to put freon in. I knew by reading American Home Shield that they only cover $10 of it worth. That freon was not needed. When the third person came out, he had to put more freon in. I was asking why we had to put more money in when the air conditioner hadn't been used in three months.
I'm going to go with another company. The service is terrible. Even when I went to cancel, I was told I had to pay 100 and some bucks. This is something that I've volunteered to sign up for. As far as I know, I wasn't under any contract so why do I have to pay to cancel? They said it's in my paperwork but I've never seen any paperwork. There's probably a contract online that mentioned that in there and most consumers probably don't read it which is our fault. I'm going to contact the Better Business Bureau. It's not about the 130 some bucks. The part that I'm disgusted about is that a company will do this to consumers. If they've done it to me, they're doing it to someone else. I understand I had to pay a service fee. But once you tell me you're going to refund it after you sent the second person out there, I'm thinking of refund and not expect for it to be three or four months in order to get the air conditioner fixed.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

The guy was direct and resolved my switch problem. He had the part in the truck. AHS is professional and they solve your problem. However, every time I do a work order, they send me companies that are real far away from me. I don't know why they can't get somebody close by. Also, a lot of companies don't realize that both of us work and we can't be at home for a four-hour window of opportunity. We don't get off work until 3:30. Some other heating companies don't even work on a Saturday and Saturdays are better for us. There are some companies that are 24/7.

American Home Shield figured out that my refrigerator needs to be replaced and what the replacement cost is going to be that they're willing to contribute. I faxed in my bill that I paid for it and I gotta wait two weeks for them to send me the check in the mail. But to get to that point was very traumatizing. I was not happy about that at all. I've been without a refrigerator since the 13th. Every time I talked to somebody at American Home Shield, they were telling me their parts division was going to get back to me. How were they going to get back to me on a part that had already been researched and found out it doesn't exist because my refrigerator is over 20 years old? They put me through all of that stuff that they could have figured out a long time ago and I could have had my refrigerator delivered before Christmas. Now, I gotta wait until after the holidays.
You can't get in touch with anybody on the phone without waiting 45 minutes. When you go to the website, there's no availability to be able to put in a question and have somebody get back to you in 24 hours. The only way that I got any recourse was by getting in touch with the plumber who was dispatched to me because there's a contractor line and I had to ask him to help me push this through.

The digital controls on our GE gas stove were not working. We couldn't set the time. You can eventually get a temperature and pray that it comes close to what it says on the screen. But GE couldn’t replace the part. It was too old. So we were given an allowance to replace it. If I buy a new stove, then I’ll send them the receipt and they’ll send me up to a certain amount of money back. We've been satisfied with American Home Shield. My only confusion was we were told that there was a $75 copay for a service call, and GE sent us a bill for about $95. My husband called American Home Shield and they said we just have to pay the $75.

Smokey's Garage is an awesome company. The spring broke on our garage door and we had their tech show up. My dad was in the garage so the tech started right away. The outlets looked like they were burnt and the tech checked that out. He replaced two outlet covers and made sure the wiring was good. My tenant lives in the house and she texted me and let me know that he also gave her some future advice on what to do with the other ones. Everything was great according to her. The tech checked some breakers from different boxes that normally I can't get other technicians to do. It was out of the scope and so, I was glad to hear that he went above and beyond. Submitting the claim online to American Home Shield works for me, instead of waiting on a phone for 25 minutes. You can just do it yourself, save your information and go. I have told people about AHS. They're better than some of the other companies that I've had the experience with. They say if they charge you this, this is what you're going to pay. One of the things I look for is transparency, and AHS is very upfront about the pricing and they do what they say.

With American Home Shield, it's been good being able to call somebody to come out and fix something without all the fees. If something more needs to be done, I just pay the deductible and that's it. I had an issue with the exhaust fan for the carbon dioxide that broke. The tech came and replaced it. It was still kind of warm out. It was only kind of cold in the morning. So, I was only running the heater in the mornings a little bit. It was a Friday, and they had the part by Monday. I've called AHS for several appliances. The air conditioning went out during the summer. I just called them up, put the work order instead of calling around for repair shops and getting quotes from the repair shops. It's just easier to just call one person, pay my deductible and that'd be it.

The part I like with having AHS is that I don't have to worry about an over-expensive repair bill. But I worked with another warranty company in the past and I feel that American Home Shield is not as friendly as far as getting work orders done quickly. When they send out a request to one of the local companies and they don't service our area or feel like they can't do the job, they decline. They cancel my request. I'm sitting here waiting for somebody to contact me and come to find out that the request got canceled. I would think that somebody would be manning that, where it would go over and be sent to another service provider, so the customers aren't sitting here wondering why nobody's called.
I've had issues where I was set for three weeks waiting. There was an air conditioner fan problem and my air conditioner was running non-stop. It was July or August and for over three weeks, I was waiting for a service guy. My utility bill was outrageous. If I had a little extra time on my hands, I would be looking for a different company.

When one of my burners was out on my flat top, I called American Home Shield by phone and I had no issues. The rep took down the information, told me it was gonna be Astro Appliance that would come out and gave me a number to contact. They also said that Astro would reach me within 24 hours to set an appointment, and they did. The repair guy then came and did everything like he was supposed to. He was excellent. He was timely when he said he was gonna be here and cleaned up after whatever he was doing. He made sure that everything was back in order, got his tools, and put out things that should be discarded. He had some put together for me, and I told him I would put it in the trash.
All in all, the repair guy did what he said he was gonna do, and he performed the service very professionally. I got my stove repaired before Thanksgiving too. He predicted it was gonna be a much longer time and we were thinking it may be after Thanksgiving, but the part came in early. He called me, and we set up a time, and he got it done quickly. American Home Shield has been very good when I've had claims. I had one for my garage door and the tech called me on the same day and came the following day. I had another claim that had to do with my dishwasher and that was fine. My last claim was for my garbage disposal. They assigned a contractor and I thought the people were supposed to come last week. I called them and they said they never had that order.
Then, they got the order and they called me. I said that it’s the garbage disposal and they said they could look at my bathroom but they really aren't the ones that should come and do my kitchen because they probably can't help me. They said they could call back to AHS and recommend that they get somebody else. That was on Friday and I have not heard anything since then. I've had two services so far with my AC unit and my refrigerator and I've been pretty satisfied. The last AC claim was for the winter checkup. The company that came out was a totally different contractor than the contractor that repaired my unit when it broke earlier in the year. I would recommend that we’d be able to continue using the same contractor because that contractor would be familiar with the unit. When my refrigerator wasn't cooling, a guy came out and repaired it in no time. He was able to diagnose it pretty quickly, and it's been cooling ever since.

We call American Home Shield when we submit claims and we tell them we have a problem. Then, they usually say the contractor would be here in a day or so. We've gotten the service that we needed in a timely fashion. Sometimes it takes longer if they have to leave for parts or something like that. That can be a little inconvenient because of our working schedules. Also, if there are other things that are involved, like trying to get them to do all of the work that you want them to do to make sure the whole system is working, it sometimes can be a problem. But for the most part, everything has been all right. I've been pretty happy overall.

We've got a 19-ton house and it's got a boiler in it. When we turned the heat on this year, it was working really strong in the basement, somewhat strong on the main living level, but nothing was getting to the upstairs. That prompted a call to AHS and on the first visit, the technician didn't know what to do with the boiler. While he was here, he called and talked to the boiler experts on staff but we needed to reschedule with him. So, not much happened on the first visit.
Then, our next appointment was scheduled two weeks out. This time, the boiler expert at the company was able to come. He walked us through the problem and tested what it was. So, we were letting air out of the upstairs to do that. In the process of checking things out and doing that, it turned out that a contributor to the problem was that parts of the pipes were super corroded. So, even when he was fixing the boiler, he said that it looked he was going to have to move the handles to let the water go through or not go through. He said that it looked like the handles were going to fall off. And sure enough, they did. They were rusted through so bad that they broke. The tech then came back a day later and he had to weld on new valves, pipes, and parts. Since the repair, everything has been working perfectly.
Last year, we did two claims with AHS. One was on the boiler as well and it was on the thermal coupler. That was a quick and easy replacement. Then, there was a water leak which also got fixed. But I need to call back and tell them that I don't think it got fully fixed. Other than that, AHS is simple and easy to use. I especially love that I make one request, they find the contractor, and I don't have to go seek out who's good.

I had a leak to where it kept running because the gaskets were going bad. That's an upstairs bathroom that sits right over the master bedroom closet. What we were trying to do is stop it from happening before it creates a bigger issue. We have a couple of guys that came out. They were wonderful. They said they would try their best to get it approved. They came back about 10 minutes later saying AHS wouldn't approve it. You're paying the dues to keep the contract in case something goes wrong but it's got to go wrong before they fix it. I drained it because I was going to fix it myself. But by draining it, the gaskets dried up anyway. Now, I had to have it fixed no matter what and it cost me an additional $185. I'm not pleased about AHS at all.
I've used AHS twice and the people that they send out have been phenomenal. They're really helpful. But their hands are tied too. They come out to look at the issue, verify it and take the pictures to send it back to whomever is sitting behind the desk that makes the final judgment call. When I bought the house, there was a lot of rework that needed to be done. The faucets started leaking underneath then I had to get, "No. We can't fix this faucet 'cause there's nothing wrong with it." I had to have somebody come in to verify that there was something wrong before we could get anything.
If I'm having an electrical problem, do I have to wait till the electrical problem causes a fire and it burns the house down before I can call AHS and tell them I have a problem? I'm not satisfied with the process. I'm not satisfied that I have to call somebody and cost me $100.If it's not feasible, then I just wasted $100 plus what they charge me for the monthly fees. Then I get, "Well, it's got to be fixed. So it’s gonna cost you another 100 and some dollars."

The heater would not come on and my husband called the 1-800 number AHS has on the internet. They gave us the next day to expect the contractor and Island Breeze came out. The tech was super nice and professional. The only thing was that he was early. They told me he was gonna be here between 11:00 and 2:00 and he showed up at 9:00. Luckily, I had taken the whole day off but if I weren't home, I feel like I would’ve missed my time. I'm super grateful to have a warranty company that seems to be super convenient for me and tries really hard to meet my needs in a timely way.

We were having issues with our LG washing machine. It took a good week for a technician to get here because American Home Shield uses certain contractors and everybody was busy with COVID going on. But once he was here on a Wednesday, he went downstairs, looked at it real quick, and found out that it was something with the gearing. By the time that they added up the cost of the parts, he thought that American Home Shield would just replace our washing machine. He submitted the paperwork on Thursday and then the following Monday, I got ahold of American Home Shield and they said, “Yes, we're going to replace your washing machine.” We had had repairs done before, but nothing was so bad where we had to do a replacement. So we didn't know how that plan worked. They still charged me $100 for the technician to say that he was not repairing our washing machine.
American Home Shield could replace our washing machine with either GE or Whirlpool products. They don't replace it with the exact same model and brand you have. But it's comparable to what you have as far as the same size and the same bells and whistles. Because of COVID or everybody needing something, they could not get a GE or Whirlpool through their supplier. So they offered us a check instead for what it would cost to buy a washing machine. We ended up going through Home Depot and got a GE, which was better than what we had.
We absolutely love American Home Shield. I would recommend them as far as appliances getting fixed. I was very satisfied with the repairs that we've had done. But the biggest issue I have is trying to get ahold of them. The one day, I was on hold for an hour and a half. Then I needed to get ahold of them yesterday. I went to call them because when they issued us the check, they put on there it was for replacement of a refrigerator, but it was for the washing machine. I got an automated thing saying, “You could stay on hold but your wait time will be an hour and 50 minutes or more.” Sometimes, depending on what you need them for, you can’t do it by email. You have to call. So then you have to put your phone on speaker and wait for somebody to answer.

Submitting a claim has been somewhat difficult as of late. I don't like that it takes so long to hear back. The people that AHS contracts with are not good. I have a hard time getting a response. I always have to wait even if it's an emergency. Then the policy through American Home Shield is going to have to give them 72 hours to get back to me, and that's really not okay. I called recently with an issue with our billing. I spoke to two different people total of an hour trying to get it worked out, and it was supposed to be accelerated and referred to someone in the retention department but I never heard back. It's been a couple of weeks now. So I told them at that point that I was ready to quit and cancel my contract. I can't get ahold of anybody to help me when I have a problem. It's all automated through the computer.
I've got two contracts with American Home Shield on two different residences. But this year has been a nightmare with American Home Shield. I have no say in who comes to my house to repair my appliances, even if it's been two or three times that I had problems with my dishwasher leaking this year and I had people out here about six times. Every time, it was a different person and I got a different story every time. I had to wait each time I made a complaint. It involved leaking, which made mold, and it really sucked that I couldn't have the same technician come each time because he knew the history and could help me diagnose. It was very hard to diagnose what was going on. Having a different technician each time made me have to start over from the beginning every time with a new technician. It took long enough to get it resolved that there was then black mold growing under my dishwasher. I tried to have that remediated. So I'm not happy.

I'm recovering from the storm and I wanted to get my AC system checked out. I requested service from American Home Shield and the next thing I know, I had an appointment. The Total Air Care tech came out and did an inspection of the system. He made sure the air conditioners were running right. He checked everything out, including the fluid levels, and told me I was low on Freon. He scheduled a maintenance man out to fill the Freon back up and gave me a guarantee. He said to let them know if it goes back low in 60 days and they would come out and see if there’s a leak somewhere that they can find or replace the unit. The guys who came out knew what they were doing and filled all the squares that need to be filled. It satisfied me.

Antech came out recently for my dishwasher. It was stuck where I couldn't get any detergent in and it wasn't mounted properly. The tech got out some of the stuff that was stuck and told me to use a different detergent. Also, he said the dishwasher would shut better and work better if it was mounted to the top. But since there isn't a piece of wood and he can't mount it to the granite, it's just kind of stuck the way it is. I was not happy about that, but I can see how he couldn't fix that. Other than that, his suggestions were very helpful.

The service was easy to schedule, and the gentleman was early. They were very accommodating to our schedule and he was very, very polite. Home Shield is not all-inclusive, but it seems to be worth the money for the most part. It is very explanatory on what they cover and don't cover. People just have to read and make sure that they have what they need. When we had a water leak and it was on an interior wall, we had them come look and it ended up being methane. If it had been something, then they would not have covered whatever the issue was just because of the location of the water leak.
I use one of those little pods as a detergent instead of just pouring the liquid into the thing and somehow it messed up my dishwasher. It kept saying fault 78, which was to tell the repair person what the problem was. So he replaced the part that was supposedly malfunctioning, but it never did fix the situation. I could’ve gotten a whole new dishwasher, but I've just kinda dealt with it. Maybe it's working itself out. So Home Shield hasn't been foolproof.
If you're gonna pay $103 a month for homeowners insurance, it would be nice if it would cover everything. Because even then, you have somebody come out and you still have a copay. Even for this maintenance that I'd like to do twice a year, they don't cover everything, and I still have to pay for a repair person to come out and take a look at it.

He came in with a mask on and had the protective stuff on his feet. He talked to us and explained the situation to us. He was thorough in everything that he did. Everything was fantastic and everybody did a great job. I just wish American Home Shield paid more for freon instead of $10 a band and the freon is $100 a band. That's the only problem. But my family members have signed up with them anyhow. I've dealt with them probably 20 years and I've never had a problem as far as people coming out and doing what they're supposed to. I had a problem with a few of the contractors but nothing with American Home Shield.

During this covid, he had his mask on. I love doing a claim online versus waiting on the phone back in the day. It's convenient. The heating unit worked fine, except it was just cold air. We called Home Shield Friday. Then Tuesday, the tech came out. I had Home Shield years ago, for a long time. And then when we moved into our new house, I went for two years where I didn't need it. And then I decided to start again. The only difference I saw was that you had to pay up front before he even came out. That was new to me. I wasn't thrilled about paying the whole amount for something that I didn't even have done yet. And then there are so many scammers today that you're just leery to give that information out. Other than that, everything went well.

I'm excited about Home Shield. We just moved into an older home, and it came with our purchase contract. It gives me some peace of mind given that we spent a ton of money buying a house. And with an older home, which is from 1914, I expect certain problems. Recently, Home Shield advertised the furnace check on their website when I signed up for the service. That was very easy. 24/7 Mechanical did a nice job. They said there was a big issue, and we had a subsequent claim go through Home Shield, and a different contractor come out, who was very much like, "No, this is not an issue at all." Other than that, Home Shield has been easy to work with. You get different contractors all the time that have different opinions about things. And it was just a little concerning that that happened. But that is not their fault. I've dealt with my own contractors in the past, and different people behave differently. I have been happy with Home Shield.

Our unit wasn't heating. We filed a claim with AHS over the internet and their website worked fine. It said to expect the contractor in a couple of days and they were pretty quick. They called about who was coming the day we put the claim in and the techs were out the next day. They did a good job and told us every step of what they were doing. They had to replace a part in the unit but it was over the weekend and they couldn't do anything. They didn't have the part in and had to order it.
But there were a couple of days in there where we didn't know what was going on. They were supposed to get back to us on the part and let us know when it was going to come in, but we didn't hear anything. It was almost five days before we had the heating fixed and I ended up fixing something else. We have a gas fireplace that we heated with and I had to go get parts for that so that we'd have heat for the weekend. Other than that, the process was pretty quick once they got the part. And since then, the AC has been working perfectly.

Some technicians came out for my garbage disposal. They had to replace it because the other one was shot. When I bought this house in 2013, I don't know how long the other people that lived here before me had it in. But I couldn't do the maintenance on it from them because I don't know how long that was in before I bought the home. The technicians were great. They were very professional and told me exactly what they were doing and the whole process. If I had any questions, I asked just certain things. They didn't monkey around. They were done and cleaned up. I would totally highly recommend them and I want them to come back for anything that I have because they were very good and I'm very pleased and very happy with them.
I've only used American Home Shield a few times. I pay them for the service. Every month, my minimum comes out. Then I have to pay the $100 fee right off the bat. I pay for that every month no matter if I use the service or not. The first time when I had problems with my washing machine, it quit on me, and I knew there was something wrong. They could have done better on being timely and how they handled it. The pandemic has a lot to do with things and it was on backorder, but I waited over a month and a half for my washing machine.
I’d paid for the service and then I take care of my mom who is elderly. She has accidents quite frequently and without that washer for a month and a half, I had to take her clothes and things to the laundromat which cost me more money. So, I just think that I didn't really get the proper things for that. Then on top of it, I had to take time to go out to wash our clothes. That cost me money too. So it just didn't seem like that was a good mesh right there.

But if they say we could make an appointment online because we can see what's available, then that's okay. But it was a little confusing.

My furnace was coming on and blowing a little bit, but only cold air. Submitting a claim with AHS was very easy and I had no problem. I got a confirmation that I had put in the claim and that the people that was going to be doing the service would be contacting me that day or the next. And they did. The tech who came to my home was the most wonderful young man. I'm 75 and he was very respectful. We made sure that there was nothing in the way so that he could get to the furnace and he checked everything. He went straight to work and when he finished, he let me feel the flow. It was light, but it was blowing and I could feel some heat. As he continued, I could feel more heat. And the next day, I was feeling regular heat.
The furnace has been working like a charm since then. He also said that, eventually we'll have to get another furnace. But he said, for right now, it's fine and if I have any problem at all, to call them or American Home Shield and they would take care of it. All in all, I had all good experiences with AHS except for one person that they sent out about two years ago. But I wrote that up in the comment section and they haven't sent me anybody else from that person. I also don't use American Home Shield that often, but when I did, all except that one time, I've had a wonderful experience. I want to thank them for helping us little old ladies be not even concerned about if something happens. We know that it's covered.
I also told one of my church members today that she needs to get American Home Shield. She is about 80-something, but they've been living in their home for a while and she was wondering what she would do if something happens. She asked whom she should contact and I will be giving her the telephone number later on tonight. I even told her that when I started with American Home Shield, I had gone through the electric company, the gas company, and the water company, and when I lost one of my cards, being 70-ish at that time, it was messed up. So, I went back to American Home Shield and I put everything on one card and the payment comes out each month.

A tech from ES Heat and Air came out for a routine checked and everything was fine. American Home Shield has helped us with a couple of hot water heaters and we got an air conditioner. The other one went out and they put us in a new air conditioner. So, everything went fine. They should just make sure that when they send plumbers out, they don't try to gouge people. We've had experienced where the gentleman wanted to charge us $2,800. We've had already paid $1,600 just to have a shower head installed and a leak fixed. Then we turned around and we had another stoppage and they wanted to charge us $2,800 to redo that. It was ridiculous. You pay $75 a month, and then you got to turn around and pay the plumbers if they find something different. We might as well just not have American Home Shield if we get to continue to pay that kind of money once somebody comes out.
One time, we had some kind of plumbing issue and one plumber with the hot water heater told us this, and then another hot water plumber came out. We had to go and pay out of pocket to pay another plumber because the other plumber was telling us something totally different. So, we just went on to pay the money out of our pocket to get somebody else and just to see what was going on.
We've been with American Home Shield for a long time. It's just that we've had those experiences, and it's kind of scary to get a problem. They need to really check their contractors out to make sure their contractors are not trying to gouge people when they come out to do a job. They say, “Hey, what's this problem? What’s that problem?” Then you get somebody else in, and you find out they didn't tell you to the truth. I got a sister that had American Home Shield, and she said she didn't like them because they charge so much money. I like American Home Shield, though.

American Home Shield meets my needs, so it has been a good experience. Putting down a request is simple. But the frustrating part is if there's something that needs to be fixed, sometimes, it's more reasonable for you to buy the item rather than them to come and fix it. I rather they charge $50 more and then cover all the parts than having to deal with going back and forth on some of the items that they don't cover the parts. You also have to be patient 'cause you may not be able to get your problem fixed right away. It might take longer than you expected. My item is supposed to be delivered next week so I haven't received it yet. But if they have the item ready, it's a quick fix. So it varies on what the problem is.

He pretty much knew what the problem was the minute I described it to him. He had the part on the truck. He pulled the washing machine or the dryer out and replaced the part in less than 30 minutes. I’ve called four times for the heater for the same issue. The same company comes to fix it and they say the same thing, that it's really old and emissions are going into the house because of the age and some leaks. But American Home Shield did not want to replace it. They were focused on fixing this little thing. With this last call that I made, the guy that came said this is beyond repair and it’s already been tinkered on several times. It’s a very old unit and they don't even make it anymore. He suggested that the company deem it irreparable. It took almost a week for that to be cleared out and get this stuff taken care of.
There were so many things that were not covered. AHS only covered the unit and didn't cover any service that had to do with replacing the units or any equipment that was needed to replace the unit, which I thought were also covered. AHS replaced the unit, which I am grateful for, but we had to come out of pocket like $3,000, which was unexpected. And they did not wanna give me any information on the unit. I asked five times what type of unit it was and which company was it by so that I can do research on it, see what we're getting or we're working with, and how much was the cost of the unit. To this day, they have not provided me with that information.
Also, a lot of times when I call, I have to call more than once. For this specific incident, I had to call several times because I was talking to someone and she did not want to give me in writing what the non-covered fees were and then, she hung up on me. She didn't call me back and I had to call again for the same situation to find out what's going on and why I was being charged different things. But there was this one lady who was very nice and she was able to help me.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

I told the gentleman, "Please, just let me know the good news first, and then tell me bad news later." He said, "Well, there's no bad news." So, that's good. Both of them were very explanatory and they said, "I can't speak for next year but this should be pretty good for you now. And this problem, you have 30 days to call back." I went, "Okay, thank you." And it worked just fine.
When I was younger, I was a bit smarter than this. I was able to fix the little things up. But one thing that my father told me, "Don't touch the furnace, don't touch electricity, and don't touch the plumbing, Nancy, and you'll be fine." "Okay, dad." And I always had him come down and look, but daddy's gone now. In here is just old houses. The things are in pretty good shape. It looks like the previous owners took very good care of the house. But the man said, "This is a pretty good thing. Down the road, you could replace it if necessary. Otherwise, you got no problem for the rest of the winter." I'm happy with that. They were very honest gentlemen. They didn't treat me like I was a dumb woman because I knew what I was doing, besides the fact they had to do it, my husband wasn't home. I love it. It was pretty good.
The first guy, Pro-Tech couldn't come. He was bombarded with people. Home Shield sent this other gentleman out. But they fixed the problem, they cleaned up a bit of the dust. And then, on the water tank at the bottom, there's this huge black piece of rubber. He said, "You got to wash it once in a while. It collects dust, and then it gets dust through the thermostat. Now I learned, so I'll do it and I won't have to call.
Last year, I had a gentleman come out for my furnace which is knocking like crazy now. I didn't know what the heck was going on. I thought it was a monkey with a wrench in there banging at it, driving me crazy. And he started laughing. He said, "No, no, when it starts to warm up, then it starts to do this." The other guy last year was for the air conditioning outside and he was good, too. He said, "Hey, this thing is ready to go, but we're not ready to have a funeral for it yet. Let it keep playing out until it happens." He fixed it up and it worked. And the other guy fixed the furnace and it worked. I told others, "Hey, if you're not young and have money, to replace something that could be fixed, then you know what, go for it. Otherwise, get these people because they're going to tell you the truth." And they did. I'm very happy with the company. $20-something a month.

The air conditioner was working but the little tube that’s on the side of the home was leaking. There was water building up somewhere. So Air Majesty came out to take care of that. The tech was really friendly and professional. He did good. He mentioned something about the pan where the water was building up was rusted and that needs to be repaired, but it's not covered under the contract. But thus far, Home Shield has quickly taken care of any concerns that I've had. I get a pretty quick turnaround with them, scheduling someone to come and take care of the concern.

The request was for an ice maker repair. The ice machine in the refrigerator was replaced. The experience was very good.

I do claims over the phone. It’s great when they take your number and call you back instead of having you hold. Recently, I had a toilet that had a silent leak upstairs. Then, the lavatory downstairs was leaking as well. Water was running out from the downstairs laundry room into the garage. Ace Plumbing came for those and did all right. The problem seems to be much better. I've had pretty much good success with American Home Shield.

I've been doing service requests on the website because the last time I tried to call, I was on hold for an hour and a half. My most recent visit was for my water heater not heating my water. The tech was great. He came to the door with his mask on. He waited for me to open the door. He had these really cool little things that slip on your shoes. So he didn't have to take his shoes off, but he didn't wear his outside shoes in my house either. It was kind of like a snow shoe, but instead of having any openings, it was like a whole plastic. It was like a sled for each shoe. He was really nice.
I explained to him what was happening with the water heater and he asked me if I'd done anything to it. We have gas heat, so the water heater is connected to the gas. I let him know that that my husband checked the pilot light. He said okay and went to look at it. He was only there for about 20 minutes, and he said something about coupling and that there was some rust or build up. He cleaned up whatever the problem was and put it back together, and then it was fine. The water heater is working great. The water gets hot so much faster than it did before. So whatever he did, it was great.
In the middle of the summer, we had someone come out for our AC because the fan wasn't spinning. They replaced the motor for the fan and the unit sitting outside. We also had someone come and take a look at our washer and dryer. They were making crazy noises. But they let us know that the sounds are cosmetic because they still work. They're just really loud. They said the warranty didn't cover them, but if we wanted to pay out of pocket for the repairs, it was gonna be $200. But it's gonna be cheaper if we just wait for it to fail, and then worry about taking it from there, and the guy was really nice about it.
The other thing we had was when we had some trouble with a light switch. We have a light that's on the stairwell and there are three light switches off of it because it's like the landing staircase. So the light switches didn't work correctly with each other. We had an electrician come out and fix that, and it was done in 10 minutes. It was really fast.
We paid American Home Shield $750 for the year and it seemed kind of hefty at the time. Then it's $100 for every visit. But so far, it's definitely been worth the investment. We're getting our money out of it. The only thing that I had issue with was being on the phone so long. But that was more because we're in the middle of COVID than anything else. Because the first time I called, I didn't have any issue. I got ahold of someone in about 15 minutes. Everything's been really fast and everyone has been really professional. The service has been quick. I asked for a service on a Friday afternoon once, and I got a call Saturday from the vendor person, and then they came on Monday.

The repair man who came out to fix the oven had recently fixed my dryer, so we were familiar with him. He's a very nice guy, and my pet loved him for some odd reason. He did what he needed to do and got out of there. The first time I used American Home Shield's website for a claim, it was a little difficult. Because I, for some reason, couldn't get it to work, and I had to call, but they talked me through it. It gets easier. I like that they asked for the model number, so the person who's coming out to repair already knows what model number and what issue they may be looking at.
The process is really easy. They take the money right out of your account so you don't have to worry about it. You know there's not going to be any money exchanged between you and the service person. So, that makes you feel a lot more comfortable because you don't worry about, “Do I need to tip?” They've already got their money and everything's good. So, I love that.
I've recently had two technicians out, and both of them were very clean. They came in, they asked if anyone in the house had COVID, and I told them, “No.” They cleaned up after themselves very nicely. There was a different gentleman who did my refrigerator, and he came in with his cleaning tools. I was thinking, “Wow, that's really neat.” I tell everybody at work about how easy American Home Shield is to use. I told a lady who was just about to buy a house that if they must buy a house, they absolutely need to get American Home Shield.

I'm very happy and I got my friend to join AHS. I gave her Home Shield's number so she could call. However, another tech called me and said that they were going to come and check my furnace to make sure it's in working order before I turn it on. He said he was from American Home Shield and that I could have my own person check the furnace if I wanted to. But, it would be best for his company to check so that in case something is wrong with it later on, I would be keeping up. They set an appointment and said they were gonna charge me $69 to come out. They never came.

They called within two hours and asked what day did I like. I said the sooner the better and asked, “How about today?” They called within two hours and came that same day. We have front lights on either side of the garage and they have been seasonally working at a very random pace. It wasn't a bulb issue, but sometimes they would be out for all winter, and then they would come on in the summer. A couple weeks ago, one of them went out, so I called AHS. The gentleman who came out was Dwayne. It took him a minute to figure out where the wiring was and what the problem was. But once he did, he fixed it really, really quickly. Because I'm not handy, I kind of hung around and asked a bunch of questions and he was very gracious to answer all my questions and he explained the process as he was doing it. I had another question unrelated to the problem we called about and he gave us a free opinion on that as well. I couldn't have been happier with the service that day.
So far, the times I've called American Home Shield has been great. I had another issue with my dishwasher and it entailed the plumber making several trips out here. But it was never an issue with American Home Shield. Everything worked fairly seamlessly for the one service price. The biggest thing that I'm a fan of is the online process and how quickly it works. I could fill out the claim online and typically get a text or an email in a few minutes. So far, I've been called the next day or that same day by a technician. I like the expedient way that they respond.

We had some outlets that weren't working and the contractor changed out a light switch and fixed our bathroom fan. Not even a week later, we had our garage door break and I had to put in a request. But I needed it expedited because our door was bending and there wasn't an option online to reach that, so I had to call in. The gentleman that I spoke to was very nice but I could hardly understand him. So, it would be nice to be able to do it online, if possible, with all the options and not just have to do it when it's a simple basic request.
The repair guys were great. The young man was very speedy. He was quick and a super nice guy. He got everything fixed. We’ve been lucky we have been able to use AHS. I submitted the request online, which was initially for an assessment. I had a drain pipe leak in my basement. I had had my sewers drilled out and after they did that, there was a leak coming from the cleanout cover on the drain pipe. The plumber had to come back for a second appointment and I didn't have to deal with any of that. They all took care of it outside of me, which was great.
The plumber was great. When he came out the first time, he explained everything he was doing. I asked him to try some other fixes before we went with a larger repair that I thought was going to be necessary. So he spent a good amount of time out here trying other things before deciding that we had to do the big replace-the-whole-drain-pipe thing. When he came back out later, he was similarly as helpful and spent all the time he needed here. I didn't feel like he was rushed or trying to get to the next job. I had a good experience with them. It was all resolved. I was able to clean everything up down there so I can easily see if there were any continuing issues and there are not.
At the very beginning, when I closed on the house, I had someone come out and rekey. I wasn't home when the technician came, but the experience through AHS was all just as positive. I’ve been very happy so far with them. If you're buying a new house, you should have a home warranty, and get the expensive one so it covers all your appliances, especially if they're old like mine. You can't trade that peace of mind for anything. It’s worth 800 bucks.

I felt the need to sign up for Consumer Affairs just to warn other unsuspecting homeowners from falling victim to the absolute scam that is American Home Shield. I just purchased my home and paid for the top of the line plan with AHS with all the bells and whistles. I had standard issues with light fixtures, bathroom exhaust fans and microwave in my home. My contract clearly states all components and parts are covers under my plan.
They make you wait 2 weeks for an incompetent random sub-contractor to arrive who cannot communicate properly, they show up with no parts take some pictures and you hear nothing back. I had to call to follow up with their "off-shore" customer service who can also not communicate properly to tell you that basic components are not covered and they can't do anything. When you ask to be escalated they make you wait an hour on hold and then disconnect you. They have the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life and weasel out of every legitimate claim that is clearly stated as covered under your policy contact.
This company is actively scamming people and collecting premiums for coverage that they refuse to pay out claims for. If you like your sanity and not want to be ripped off and put on hold for hours on end without any recourse stay as far away from American Home Shield as possible. They are robbing people blind in bright daylight! I bought this policy because of Consumer Affairs recommendation and their seemingly great reviews, but in practice they are far from what they promise. The WORST home insurance scam you can buy.

I have been reading the reviews about AHS and hot water heater repairs... I am having the same issue with them not wanting to replace a non working water heater. I have paid the service fee of $100.00 TWICE because one of my calls for service was outside of the 60 day window....for the same issue. Today, I had the technician come out for the third time, and still no resolution. He is claiming that it is due to "water pressure"... I have lived here 3 years, there is no water pressure issue.... just poor coverage with AHS, and not giving authorization to fix the issue. I WILL NOT be renewing this home warranty with AHS.... not worth it. For what I paid for the warranty and the 2 service calls, I could have had the heater replaced by a REPUTABLE company...

The Brick Street personnel they sent has great customer service. I asked him to walk around the back and he had no problem with it. He came prepared with the booties and he was ready to put them on when he stepped inside the door. He was very professional, very knowledgeable, and he walked me through what had happened. He was very articulate in bringing it down to my level to understand. There are a lot of things that are not presented to the customer and American Home Shield doesn't cover everything but it's somewhat a security blanket in case something happens.

I didn’t know what it was so I called Home Shield to get a plumber and Eduardo from SAP Services came out. The gasket around the overflow valve was rotted out and he said that he has to cut a small hole in the tile in the garage and replace the seal from the backside of the tub where it's sitting inside of the hole or the wall there. With the sink, my wife had dropped a lipstick tube in it and he had to take the P trap off and unclog it. The repairs and knowing what the issue was and that it was something that could be fixed help. It adds back to the quality of life.

For $70 a month, AHS covers almost everything so that's cheap. It's costly if nothing breaks down or nothing needs to be replaced. But in the event that it does, it’s there. My AC stopped working and my experience with them was good. However, it's easy for anybody to get a contract with AHS. The only thing the person probably has to prove to AHS is that they are a legitimate business but it doesn't feel like professional people are coming in even if there's a sign on the side of the truck.

We got back from a trip and we didn't have heat in the house. We submitted a claim with AHS and the process was super simple. As soon as I requested service, I got a text message back. And within five minutes, they had a company assigned. But it took two days for the servicer to be able to make it to my house to be able to repair the heating unit. They kept me updated though and I liked getting the text and that I didn't have to confirm. The tech was great, too. He wore a mask when he came in and he knew immediately what the issue was. And he was able to fix it. It was a quick fix, but he said he'd check something else to make sure it wasn't what caused the problem. So, he stopped what he was doing and he went a little above and beyond. It was a fuse, so he could have just replaced the fuse, but he said to let him me figure out why the fuse was blown.
Other than that, I've been in the home for 14 years, which was why I decided I needed a home warranty on it. But I don't know if I'm going to keep it because we just replaced all of our appliances. I pay $50 a month for it and I don't know if it's really worth the cost. But if I stopped and I went back to a home warranty company, it would be American Home Shield. I haven't had any issues with them. Also, I used to work in the real estate world and we used to refer them all the time. I would tell others that my experience with them was good and they were prompt. I've heard some horror stories on home warranties and maybe my claim was a simple fix. But I don't know if I might have a different opinion if it was something a little bit more detailed where they didn't have the part.

I had a drastic deal with the sewer and I ended up having to pay to replace piping and a bunch of other stuff. I can’t afford to spend the kind of money I spent on that because it was cast iron. It wasn't AHS's fault. The guy that did the home inspection should’ve caught that. But you want a professional to help you out on that and that's why they are the pros. Also, I would rather AHS tell me upfront when they don't cover something. But I was already deep in it. I was caught off-guard on this one. He looked at the washing machine. He told me exactly what was wrong with it. He had the part in the car and he was gone within 15 minutes after that. It was great. This was the first time I ever had a very good experience with American Home Shield and I was very satisfied.
I prefer calling over the phone and getting someone to make sure it's gone through so that I can do it one time and one time only. When I called, I went through the automated part without actually speaking to someone and it said that my contract had expired. It had not, so that was why I chose to speak to someone. That person quickly verified that my contract was still in effect so something was a little wrong with the computer system there where it showed that it had expired on the automated line. But everything worked out fine and I was really surprised. American Home Shield's price keeps going up. The service fee went up along with the amount that they take out monthly. But I did see a big improvement in the service.

AHS is the real deal. They deliver on their claims. I bought two years’ worth of warranty and so far, they've taken care of both appliance issues that I've had. I'm happy with the fact that I haven't had to replace these appliances versus having them to do repair work. The first time was very difficult but that was more of a function of COVID. The contractor never was able to diagnose the problem from the beginnings so AHS was not able to approve anything. We had to pay to have another vendor come in to diagnose the problem. We reached out to AHS to say we got a third party that had told us what the issue was and I'm grateful AHS stepped up and took care of it after the fact.
We had another appliance break down just in the last month and the process from beginning to end was very straightforward. There's only been one provider in the local area that works with AHS that I would work with. CK Appliance repair is a top shelf company. In the time that we worked with AHS, we've worked with two providers and the other provider is terrible. They came in, looked at my refrigerator and knew exactly what the problem was. They went to submit the paperwork for it. AHS said that it was covered under manufacturer's warranty but that wasn't the case.

Our claim submission was quick and smooth. Someone from Sears came out and he was really professional. He was a nice man and he was cool with my wife. She was the one that dealt with him. He was really responsible, professional, and respectful. He said that the oven was not repairable. The two front and back ranges on the top range were no good. American Home Shield sent me a check but they sent it under a different last name so they supposedly resent the check on Monday. I had an excellent experience overall. I like the response from American Home Shield. It was awesome. Everything good.

Then, I was going to call and cancel my warranty but there was a large cancellation fee because it just renewed in September. So, I’m not a happy camper.

My washing machine was having issues with not filling properly and making strange noises. Bay Appliance Repair was able to come out the same day. However, When calling American Home Shield, everything is automated. I can't get to a real person. There are options that they list that don't fit my criteria. Their automated system doesn't give me an option to say "if there's another option, push zero or hold on for a representative" and that's frustrating. It's the same way online.
The tech who came for my washing machine, Tom, was very professional, clean and respectful. He had a dialogue with me and asked how I was taking care of my machine. He went out of his way to explain things and give me tips maintenance-wise. He gave very helpful answers to all my questions and I didn't feel rushed in any way. I'm very satisfied with Bay Appliance's performance.
Thus far, my experience with AHS has been a positive one and it's something that you should consider if you have appliances that are a bit older than a couple of years. I chose AHS over other warranties for their guarantee. Other companies would void their warranty if a unit is 5 or 10 years old. For AHS, it doesn't matter what condition my unit is in for as long as it was working prior to me signing up.

The plumber came and thought the motor was gone on the tub. He said their company doesn't fix that. I was a little bit like, “I wonder why they sent you.” Somebody else came and he said that the switch was bad but he couldn't get to it. He said he was gonna see if he could get the part but I haven't heard anything since. When he was there, I was looking for my manual but I couldn't find it. I did find it a day or two later. I took a photo of the front of the manual which says what type of tub it is. I texted that to him and he thanked me.
They were both good people who we're trying hard to fix the problem. I thought I was gonna have to pay another $75 for the second guy and that concerned me. I was unhappy with AHS but when I called in, they said I just had to pay that $75 one time. I was very happy to hear that and I actually have recommended them to a friend of mine. It's a good idea for people who live in older homes. It makes you feel safe that you can get things fixed when they break and not suffer financial hardship. It's better to have an insurance like this.

We had two parts of the house with no electricity. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. We didn't know what was wrong. They were responsive. It took about a day before they contacted me then another day for them to come so it was good. They looked at the breakers and at the installation. The guy found a glitch on the switch and fixed it. We've had a couple of appliances that failed and American Home Shield has covered most of it. We pay for it and they provide us service. But in the long run, it works out. We had the tech from Carolina Appliance here before and he did a good job. The refrigerator was serviced in August and then the compressor went out this go around. All the manufacturing places had shut down. So parts aren't available. It's cheaper just to buy a new refrigerator. But even finding a replacement refrigerator took us about four days. They couldn't deliver the model we wanted till sometime in late January.
The customer service person we talked to told us what to do. There's a different number when you have to do a replacement. The new refrigerator just came in today. The delivery took almost two weeks. There was a difference in what American Home Shield covered and the actual cost of the replacement unit was. So we had an out of pocket about $600. But it's better than nothing.

United Air Temp was very professional. They made sure that they didn't track anything in the house and they wore gloves and put coverings over their shoes. They knew what the issue was and they corrected it. They're my vendor of choice dealing with my air condition. Some of the other vendors that have come to my home have caused more problems that they had to come and correct.
I had World Class and they didn't correct the issue with the air conditioner. They had to come back and they said part of the problem was I needed new thermostats for the air conditioner. They put in one because there was only one unit that was giving me a problem. I paid for a second one, assuming that the second one would probably go bad. The thermostats that they sold me and the one that they installed were damaged. Somebody else had to be brought in and I was told that they do not use those particular thermostats anymore. I told AHS to not send Word class to my house anymore.
When I contact Home Shield, the process seems to go fairly well. The only issue that I had is that I've tried to explain to them that I'm very concerned about who they send over here. I tell them who I want and they end up sending somebody else. Then, these other people come in and we'd have some issues. This last one, there were some issues because a part had to be reordered and we had to make another appointment. It was very difficult to get the second appointment and I ended up canceling the whole thing. I'm at a point that if I'm not getting the service that I feel I want, I may have to cancel American Home Shield. I don't want just any hack coming in here and they're not doing the job.

The HVAC people came out first, and they said there was some electrical issue. When an electrician came out, it was about two days later, he found a loose wire at the breaker. And he said sometimes from heat, they expand, contract, expand, contract, sometimes they are loosened. He tightened that up, but the problem still didn’t go away. It’s some problem with the unit. The unit is about 15 years old, and it really needs to be replaced. The HVAC guy came back out. It wasn’t showing any symptoms. As he said, “Your machine is like intermittent.” And then, maybe a day later, the guys said the thermostat needs power from RC1, which is a low voltage wire. Experience has been long. The bottom line is the unit needs to be replaced. Because it's old and there's only so much fixing you can do to a unit.
The unit has that R-22 Freon that you can't replace in a unit. The guy told me that the Freon at some point will run out. It may run out this year. It may run out next year. You just don't know. But when it runs out, then they won't have anything to put into units that are old, like the one I've got, if they have to use Freon. But I was satisfied with what the electrician did and and with the second guy who came out. At least he went up on the roof of the building to look at the unit. The first guy wouldn't even go up on the roof to look at the unit on it. He said that their insurance won’t allow them to go up on the roof. So, I couldn't argue with him about that. As far as Home Shield is concerned, the problem hasn’t been solved. But overall, it has been a good experience.

Express Comfort and Heating came to figure out why my unit was not coming on. I've had this experience every year around this time and it appears that American Home Shield always sends Express Comfort and Heating out and they don't ever fix the job completely. A few days after Express Comfort and Heating left, we had the same issue. The gas company came and looked at the unit and realized that one of the restart buttons on the unit, which was not securely placed in the system was not connected. That was something that should have been detected when Express Comfort and Heating was out a few weeks ago.
The claims with American Home Shield are usually very timely and someone gets back to me right away. The technicians are pretty professional and they seem to be very conscious of being clean. The only problem I've ever had with them is that they never fix the problem completely. I've told American Home Shield about this but again, every year, I have an issue with that unit. American Home Shield keeps sending the same company out and me having the same experience multiple times.
If you are committed to the investment of your home then it's good to have some kind of home insurance policy that can come in, replace, and repair. However, I would caution to find a company that doesn't keep sending out the same company to repair because then it looks suspicious when they leave and you have the problem again. Then you have to pay another fee for them to either send the same company back out or you need to request another company, which you really shouldn't have to pay a separate fee if it was past the 30 days.
We do apologize for the inconvenience and your work was not properly done. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience related to your repairs. We do appreciate you for sharing your experience, and allowing us assist. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

Joy Plumbing came to fix my toilet and everything was perfect. The guy came in, asked my wife to show him what the issue was, and did what he was supposed to do. My toilet wasn’t filling up with water as quick as it should, so he replaced a part in there and that was it. That was quick and the guy did a professional job. He was very respectful, polite and nice as well. When he finished, I thanked him and he said, "Thank you." That was cool.

The oven wasn't working and I called American Home Shield and then they sent the guy in. He diagnosed it. He saw that something was broken and he ordered the piece. He came back a week later, put it in, and now the oven works. So the way it was supposed to go down was the way it went down. I was very happy about that. It was done so smoothly.
I have one open claim where the compressor on my air conditioner broke. It's still not fixed. But I'm working with someone at American Home Shield, so it's fine. It's not a big deal because it’s not the winter. It's not even their fault. At this point, they already approved the fix and I just gotta find someone to go and do it. American Home Shield has been fair about it all the time. So we love the service so far. It's all good. They've been very communicative all along. So even though that's still open, I’d still recommend it. They did what they said they were going to do.

It's pretty simple making a claim with American Home Shield. In fact, it's a lot quicker to do it online than it is to try to call. Because of the pandemic, not a lot of people answer the phone because they're not there. AHS responds a lot faster online. I find that true with a lot of companies. For a plumbing issue I had, AHS sent out Lake Plumbing and they handled the problem beautifully.
My brother and mother live with me and my brother has bouts of insomnia. He decided that he wanted to peel a lemon and he was in the bathroom. He dropped the lemon in the toilet and instead of scooping it up, he tried to flush it and it got stuck. He put some Drano in the toilet to dissolve it but it wasn't going through fast enough. I thought maybe I had better call somebody. AHS responded faster than I thought but I had to wait for somebody to come out the next day. The service guy was promptly here at 7:00 in the morning. And by 7:30, he had everything all cleared up and everything's been working fine.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.
