My kitchen light wasn’t coming on when I turned it on. I had two separate switches and one of them wasn’t working. And Wester came out. The guy was very quick and he told me everything that was going on. It was a good experience. So far, I have been very pleased with American Home Shield, and it’s not super expensive.
Oh No! We do apologize that you had to face that electrical issue. We are, however delighted to know it was taken care of. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Done Rite Appliance Repair came out to fix the ice dispenser in the freezer. The tech needed to order a part and he came out another time a week later and put in the new part. It's all fixed now.
Hi James,

I feel very good about them in the last six months. My initial experience was extremely difficult. It took forever to resolve an issue. But since then, I’ve had a few interactions and they’ve been excellent. So things have improved dramatically. Last month, we had an adjustment to the water heater. The tech was very professional. Everything is fine now.

AHS is a very nice company to do business with. I pay a fee and then I also have a fee when the person comes, but at least they know who to send, instead of me trying to find someone. So far, they have sent very capable people for different things. When the faucets in the master bathroom went out, Williams did an excellent job. He was very capable. He knew what to do and did it. He also quickly took care of the job and I was very pleased with his work.

We had a claim in December and Brick Works came out. I would never wanna use them again. They look like they're a huge company, but in actuality, they're working out of their own truck or a truck supplied by this company. But their home office is in Charleston, West Virginia. What happens is AHS calls the main number, and then Brick Works calls a person that supposedly works for them on the cellphone. Then they dispatch the person to whatever the address is. They also took advantage of me. I had a backup of my sewer pipe and water was coming into the house. They couldn't fix the problem. Then we deduced that it was outside the house, which was not AHS's responsibility.
The operator said, "I think I can get a snake. It goes from the outside out from the street. Let me call the office." He also said that he'd come back the next day. He came back, but it was not the company snake. He told me he borrowed it from his neighbor and charged me $250. He ran the snake and he cuts up some roots on a tree. He said he didn't know if that fixed it or not. I gave him a check for $250 reluctantly, and two days later, I have the same problem.
I just called Roto-Rooter and got it fixed. So when I called in for my most recent claim, I requested Gaithersburg because I've used them a couple of years ago, through AHS. A lot of times, AHS won't let me request and just decide a company. But whoever answered the phone this past time did. The claim went well. I felt really comfortable with requesting them and I'm glad I did. The guy showed up, figured out what the problem was and took care of it. When our microwave was not working correctly, it was repaired several times. Then we got it replaced.
We've had AHS for a long time. We started doing using them when Mrs. was a Realtor and she recommended them to her clients. We're always happy with the service. But we went through a period of time when things were not so good. A lot of people that came out didn't know what they were doing. They took a picture then they'd call the company and ask how to repair the issue. So that was why we went back to Gaithersburg Plumbing. And then Sears was always very good. Hopefully, the service is getting better now.
Paul,
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

I reported a plumbing issue to American Home Shield. A previous company replaced the spout that goes to the bathtub and after he did that, he checked everything. We found out it's leaking so I called back the same plumbing company. They said I had to make another order so I called my home insurance company. They said they would send someone for a second opinion and they would take care of it 'cause I was still under warranty for the first repair.
The contractors came and said something was leaking inside so we had to replace a part. They fixed the problem but they had the handle to work the other way around. We have been in the house for 25 years and when we turn this way, the hot water will increase. We turn the other one this way, the cold water will turn on. Now, it's the other way around. It's working though and it's not dripping but I wish they left it the same way. This is my first good experience with them and the only satisfactory coverage. Before, they didn't fix anything when I called.
Mohsen,

My husband submitted a claim for the washing machine. I put the clothes and came back about four hours later, and they were still washing. So the issue had to do with the timer. Someone came out fairly quickly and my husband told the contractor what the problem was. They looked at it, but they didn't bring the part with them, so they came back that day with the part.
When I had a claim for a fan that was in the ceiling, it took forever to get it fixed. Whoever they recommended didn't have a ladder that high. Several months later, we had a talk with American Home Shield and they got somebody else to fix it. When we started out with American Home Shield, the contract fee was fairly low, but it seems like it’s gone up every year. In retrospect, we would've just put the money in the bank and waited for something to happen. But it's nice to be able to go to one person for maintenance, not having to search around for plumbers or electricians. Overall, I'm happy with it.

I considered American Home Shield as a warranty so if in the event that something went wrong in my house, they would come out and fix it. I’ve been with them since 2011 up until now, so that’s a long time as far as paying each month. And over the years, when I had to call them to come out, I was always satisfied except for one time and that was last year when my hot water heater went out. In fact, after that, I was thinking about dropping American Home Shield because I really felt that with all that I paid into the warranty for every year and for the number of times that I used it, they kinda fell through the cracks because of the mere fact that they didn’t want to cover the repair of my water heater.
I spoke to someone at length about it and he told me he was making note of everything that I asked. It went higher then I asked to speak to a supervisor and the whole nine yards. And I called around different places. I had two different companies come out to give me a second opinion on what it would cost versus getting someone out here. After going through all that havoc with a leaking water heater that I had, which I had to end up replacing, American Home Shield might have given me $300 out of that and I had to pay $1,400 out of pocket. So, that kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.
Other than that, through the years, their contractors have always been very nice. The ones that came out always provided me good service and good information. They’ve also always been on the up-and-up in terms of when my appointment was scheduled, when they came, and I didn’t have the runaround like someone not showing up. All in all, I like the idea of having a home warranty as far as getting things fixed. I just hope that no one else would experience my bad experience with the hot water heater, because everything else I have experienced with AHS was good.

I called AHS when my AC was giving no cold air. I told them what was going on and they sent somebody out. I got an email saying that the contractor was coming. It also asked what was the appropriate time that I could be here. I responded to that and was told to expect the contractor between 12:00 and 4:00. It was the second time that somebody came out to do my AC and I was satisfied with the work. I would recommend AHS.

I've had American Home Shield for a year and a half now. I had it with my previous residence as well. I appreciate their service and it's a nice peace of mind. Recently, I placed the claim on my garbage disposal online and paid the co-pay online. Clog Father called me and they showed up. They had a unit in their truck and they were able to take care of it right then. The only thing that was not fantastic was that about a few months ago I had somebody out for the same issue. So, it was kinda irritating to have to pay a co-pay a second time for the same issue. But this claim went very smoothly.

There was water that was spraying inside the pump housing area on my Whirlpool. Home Shield was right on it and sent me a text. They said they contacted someone and I should be getting a phone call, which I did seven hours later. Steven A. Mills Plumbing came out and the tech assessed the situation and found out what was the matter. They ordered the part and came three days later and replaced it. Everything works great and back on the way it was. Home Shield is a peace of mind. I don't have to worry about if something breaks and I don't have to worry about trying to come up with the money. I looked online how much one of those pumps were and they were like almost $400. And I paid $85 and that was it. It's easier to come up with $85 than it is 400.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Thomas. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have a great week.

We had submitted a claim to AHS for different plumbing issues. The hot/cold in the sink, when you turned it back, it wouldn’t open. They fixed that and some toilets, the one with the flapper. And then they fixed another one that was loose as well. The plumber was really good. He had to buy the part, and then he came back. So far, I like AHS. We only used American Home Shield once or twice, and there was a quick response with the workers. The refrigerator in my garage stopped working. I went online and made a claim which was very easy to do. American Home Shield said that within 24 hours, I would get a call. But I then got an email saying that Savvy Tech would be out between certain times. Those guys were excellent. The motherboard of my refrigerator had gone out and luckily for us, they were able to find one in stock close by that same day. Otherwise, we would have to try everything else. Our fridge is like a new one now. It was a great experience.

The first couple of experiences with American Home Shield weren’t so good. I was without a refrigerator three months before they finally got it resolved. They kept sending out the same part to be replaced, and then two days later, the part would go out again. So, it wasn’t the part. It was the refrigerator. And finally, they replaced it. I live in Pearland and it takes a while to even get an appointment to get somebody. Except for the garage door repair, which happened the very next day, so that went well. American Home Shield's claims process was great. As a matter of fact, I did recommend them to my nephew. I told him that it was a great deal and good service.

When the water heater sprung a leak and dumped all its 40 gallons of water on my basement floor, submitting the claim for it was extremely easy. I went online and did it in a couple of minutes. I have tried calling a claim in, but it was a whole lot easier to do it online. I've been with AHS since 2012 and got it before I retired to help manage my large expenses. The repair guy came over. He was absolutely professional and walked us through some of the characteristics of our system and told us why we were hearing the sound that we were hearing. He was fantastic. But at the end of the day, there was nothing wrong with it. My wife and I misjudged it. He even stayed for a while to allow the appliance to cycle through to make sure it was okay. And then he said, “Look, just submit another work order if something’s wrong, but there’s nothing wrong.” I also had an electrical claim, which was the first claim, and that guy was absolutely incredible as well. He came by and said, “Sir, you just need to hit this little button on your outlet.” It was one of those circuit breaker outlets.
I’ve had two claims and there was nothing wrong with either, but it was really good to just get the reassurance from an expert, and so it was worth the deductible. I just retired from the Army after 28 years. We lived on bases majority of the time and they had no choice but to be responsible. Every time we’ve called Home Shield, they have been ultra responsive and ultra accommodating. It has been fantastic so far and I hope our great experience continues.

I had an electrical claim with AHS where they sent out Certified Electrical Technologies. Everything was done and the technician was very professional when he came in. He fixed the outlet in the kitchen, in the dining room, and in the master’s bedroom. He explained what happened with the system and he changed some parts, but everything was very good. Other than that, in one claim that I put about one year ago when my appliances had a problem in my kitchen, the contractors didn’t have a part when they came to fix it. They were supposed to order that part, but they never came back. And I was waiting for their call to make an appointment again and come back to fix it, but they never called. When I called American Home Shield, they said that the case was closed because I didn’t call. I told them that I was waiting because the technician said he would order the part, but AHS said they couldn't do anything to open the claim.

It’s usually pretty simple to open a ticket with AHS, and the contractors that we’ve worked with had been responsive. But their contract management needs to improve. I had to purchase a new contract and it wasn’t renewed. Then, it was kind of a hassle to purchase a new contract and reconnect through the phone with their customer service. If you have to call, you have to end up on hold for quite some time. It’s a lot easier to work with them on the web and their website as well as the app, are good. I also like all the web-based interface and the fact that they track it when the person is arriving. But I had a billing issue a few years ago and it was difficult then to get the contracts reconnected online. It wasn’t as easy as it could’ve been. So, I had to have a few contract numbers for a while, then they had to kill one.
We do apologize for the hassle regarding the billing as well as contractual issues with us. Thank you for providing your feedback and we do appreciate you being a customer with us. Do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

I have been a member for 3 years. I have made several service calls. I am ok with paying the agreed $75 but there are so many loopholes that cause extra cost for the customer. For example, I had a leak in the ceiling, the plumber came out (1st out of 3) and could not fix it ($75 gone). I called AHS and they sent a 2nd plumber for free (yay!). The 2nd plumber could not fix it. The 2nd plumber said that AHS does not cover cutting holes in the ceiling and if I want them to take a look they will charge me $200 (I think it was $178 or something like that). So I paid it because I need to have this problem fixed but even after cutting the holes, nope they could not find the problem. I called AHS to cancel my contract since it was just costing me more and more money and they offered to send a 3rd plumber.
By now, I figured out the problem and when the plumber came I explained the issue. They said, it's not a leaky pipe so they cannot fix it. Ok, so I fixed my own issue and paid $275 and stayed home off work but that's just life. So I called to cancel my contract (I used to work support so I am very courteous and do not curse or yell or get angry) and I was told that I need to pay a $53 fee to cancel the contract. Not to mention that my monthly recurring fee was just paid yesterday. Anyway, they basically are charring my money to cancel my contract. The problem, my 3rd year I couldn't pay upfront and was told I need to pay month by month but the good news is I can cancel any time. This home warranty company is not worth it. In the past three years I could have save a lot more then I spent just by putting aside the monthly payment into my savings account. :-)

Absolutely positively under no circumstances would I recommend an AHS home warranty. My client has water leaks and there was NO ONE that responded to the client's concerns. First, there was a water leak at the entry point of the water lines going into the house. AHS didn't cover that leak because it was not 'INSIDE' the dwellings. Then leaks were noticed under the house. We started asking how much if any of the repairs would be included under warranty in MAY, MAY 2019. To date, we have not had any definitive answer as to whether water leaks in the galvanized pipes under the house are covered or not covered.
My client has now repiped the house at their expense. We are considering adding the cost of the repipe to the cost of the initial warranty when we file against AHS. I am an Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty. Coldwell Banker is an affiliated company with AHS. If we can't get a response, do regular people get responses? Why are they allowed to continue to sell warranties in California with this deplorable customer service? I could go on and on with the specific details of this matter, however, the bottom line is that they don't service their customer effectively.

Tech came out on 1/2, informed us 2 things wrong with heat system. Long story short, after dozens of calls with AHS, English as a second language folks, two different service companies, 23 days and $625 (on top of yearly cost) later our repairs were completed. Oh and they want to try and charge me another $125 since their service company couldn't complete both repairs, which I'm disputing. Saved us some money. We thought we had a water leak one time. My son said he saw water coming down the wall downstairs, so we panicked. AHS sent J-Star Services, Inc. to service the request but then as it was, my granddaughter had overfilled the bathtub and hater had leaked behind the stopper at the top at the overflow. It had run past the overflow there but then there was nothing really wrong. The tub needed some caulk behind the overflow valve but then the plumber who was sent said he didn't do that.
I was very disappointed with that guy as it would have only taken him a couple of minutes to do the three-inch thing that he has to caulk around. But still, he didn't do it. I've been with AHS for about a year now and their contractors have nevertheless been on time and they diagnose my problems. When my garbage disposal was leaking, they put a new one in for us.

When the high limit switch on the furnace wasn't working properly, we called Atlas Heating & Cooling, a local company, to come out and service the furnace. The contractor changed the high limit switch and so we had heat. We paid the fee and then called American Home Shield. Because the heat was out when I came home from work the day before and I knew I had AHS, I thought it was okay to call a local company to come out. Unfortunately, when I called to submit the claim, they said, "This is not how it works."
I explained to them that I didn't know and that it was my first time doing a claim. My mother was at the house with us and when you have a 77-year-old at home that's bedridden and depends on oxygen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you panic. It was imperative that we have heat. Even if I could have gone to the right channels, I was so desperate to get the heat back on in the house. It was about 8 o'clock at night. When it comes to emergencies, there should be some exceptions or they should let people know what to do.
Then at about 3 o'clock in the morning, it went out again. I told my husband that I had to call Home Shield and go do the process. We had to wait. AMC Heating Cooling came out and fixed it properly within 30 minutes because the tech waited for it to cycle. The company that came before went out immediately. AMC's tech was phenomenal and very professional. He explained what happened. The switch the other company put on wasn't a high enough capacity, which was why it kept turning off. They didn't put on the right switch and charged us about $294. It was a mess.

It took him about 30 to 45 minutes to fix it and that was it. He’s very professional and the ceiling fan is working fine. Everything went well and they had a 60-day warranty. If anything went wrong or it stopped working within 60 days, they’d come back out to repair it and it wouldn’t be another service call. This is my second year with Home Shield and they always come through.
We do appreciate the feedback and delighted to know that your ceiling fan has been taken care of. Thanks for sharing your experience and we do appreciate the longevity.

The primary pool pump failed. It threw a bearing and it just flat out failed. American Home Shield sent Master Pools by Atlantis and they had to order a replacement pump. It took two days to get the job done. They came out on the weekend and checked it, and went ahead and called American Home Shield to get it going Monday. Every interaction I’ve had has been successful. I’ve been happy with the service provider, the time limits and the resolutions. They’ve done a great job. This is the second time I’ve had this contractor at the house and they were great. I had them out last year through American Home Shield as well. US Air came to our home on January 31st. Now, they came days before that to repair our unit because the tech had to put a panel in, and then he had to do something to the unit itself. And I thought it was repaired correctly. Later that night, I heard a loud pop. My bedroom was right next to the unit, and I ran, and I came out of my bedroom. I looked around and investigated. It sounded like something fell in the house, and I didn’t see anything. So, I went back to bed. The next morning, my brother left because he lives in Oklahoma City. So, he left. And I didn’t feel right. My mom also told me her eyes and nose were burning. We were sluggish. I said, “Mom, I just feel like I just wanna go back to sleep. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.” And she said, “Baby, I’m sleepy too.”
Then my sister came over. Thank God she did. I told her Mom had a headache, and I had a headache. My blood pressure was normal. I just felt sleepy and sick. I just didn’t know what was wrong. She asked what happened. I told her the heating man came and fixed the heater. She told me to check the unit. I opened the door to the unit, and the door to the furnace part fell off. I had no idea if my sister didn’t come over. We were just feeling sick and sleepy. Me and my mom was just gonna go back to sleep. That was serious. Carbon monoxide can escape from that. I didn’t think I’m supposed to go behind the repairman that American Home Shield hired. I don’t know anything about the unit. And as a customer, I’m not thinking to check behind him when he leaves. I just went about my daily business.
I checked the detector, and it was at 18. I had never seen a number on that detector in my life. I almost panicked. I was sick on top of that. And so, my sister and I struggled trying to get it on because my mother’s bedridden. That was when I called US Air up, and then I got a recording. They were closed. My sister got it halfway on. I called American Home Shield, and I told them we gotta get somebody here because we needed to get the door back on the unit. They told me, “Oh, it’s gonna be a two-hour window.” I said, “Carbon monoxide in the house, a two-hour window? Y’all want us to be dead or what?" So, they did send somebody over within two hours. I had left the house, and my sister was here. I was all confused.
My sister said a gentleman came. It wasn’t the gentleman that initially repaired it. He explained to my sister everything. He explained to her that the technician did not put the door on. She showed me properly. It was something he was supposed to adjust and put on securely. He did not do that. And this technician that came corrected everything. Ever since the other technician did his part correctly, the door hasn’t came off. But that could have killed us. I’m gonna file a formal complaint. They can’t get away with this one. American Home Shield will tell you they have to find whoever’s in their network. And then if you have an emergency, if it’s almost coming to the weekend, they’ll make you wait until the next week, and it’s something that could be an emergency.
Oh No! We do apologize this has happened and actually could have caused a serious health risk. We will take this into consideration and happy that the issue has been resolved. My name is Robert and I will be assisting further in this case to provide a resolution.

My friend, who’s also my boss, got American Home Shield. And so, I thought, “I’ll check that out too.” And I was very satisfied with that decision. Their claims process was good although it took a little longer to get them out than I would have liked. Even though it was just an unclogging a sink issue, it took a week and a half. I wish it could’ve been sooner. It was just to unclog a sink, so it was okay, and my tenants were perfectly fine. But if it was something else that was more pressing, we could not have waited this long. The guy from Greenway Home Services who came out was great. He fixed the issue and he was wonderful. I was very pleased.

The guy came out and was in a rush, big time. The problem was that the light fixture wasn’t working, but he wasn’t even ready to touch that. He just checked the switch and said that it was fine, that he didn't care, and that he was not authorized to touch the light fixture. He also said that he didn't have time and had to go. He wouldn’t do anything. I argued with him and told him to have a look at the light fixture. After 20 minutes of arguing, he touched it and found the shorted wires. He just unfolded it and it worked. It was a small thing and I could have done it myself, but I thought, “Let me not touch the electric stuff.” I also had another claim before and it went okay.

When the furnace wasn’t working, the contractor came out the morning after I got ahold of AHS. I called on a Thursday and a couple of guys came out Friday morning and fixed it. I’ve owned a home for a long time. There are a lot of expenses and a lot of things that go with owning a home. Especially for somebody that never owned a home or somebody that’s young, it’s really a good deal to make sure you have a little insurance on some of the big items that can go bad. You got a lot of money invested and you’re paying a lot of money every month. And when you have a problem, a home warranty helps out quite a bit. I've had AHS for a year and a half and they've done an excellent job.

It was one of coldest times in Jacksonville and the heater outside was making a loud sound as I had the heat on, so I had to turn it off and called to file a claim. The live representative was very helpful because when I was talking to him. I went out and turned on the heater, so he could hear what was going on. He helped assess the problem. I was told to expect the contractor within 24 hours. The contractor from Beaches Air Conditioning and Heating came out on a Saturday and said that it was the fan and that they would have to order the part. Then they came back on Monday and changed it. Everything was good this time. It was quick and efficient.
I have had some issues in the past. In my last experience with my AC, I was without AC for 10 days in summer, and I had to pay $400 for R2 something because the air conditioning was out. But, I knew it was the pump because it is the heart of the machine. So, now they fixed the heart, and I shouldn't have any problems. Overall, American Home Shield has great service when they have great contractors.

My water heater was leaking so they sent out a guy from R. Prescott. The first time that the guy came out, he thought it was just tightening up a nut. But that didn't fix the problem so the next day, they sent someone else out and had to replace the water heater because he saw that it was rusted out and needed to be replaced. So the problem solved in a relatively short period of time. R. Prescott had been out there a couple of times, so I prefer them. One time I asked American Home Shield if they could send the same crew and they did.
American Home Shield should offer their services on weekends and after-hours because not everything breaks down Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 5:00 PM. If they are worried about the extra cost for time and a half, I would be willing to pay that half time and still have the person. They're not out any money. In this situation with the water heater, they would have came on Saturday. They're still gonna pay for the water heater and for the tech's time. I would then pick up the cost for half the time so then American Home Shield doesn't lose any money. It's a common sense thing to me but not everybody works on common sense.

One particular day, it got a little bit unseasonably warm. We were cooking something in the oven and I thought we needed to turn the air conditioner on for a couple of minutes just to cool down a little bit. We turned it on, and lo and behold, the house didn't cool down. Then last week, when it was really cold in here, I didn't feel like the heat pump was putting out any heat. I went ahead and checked the circuit box and the breaker was tripped. I went and reset the breaker and it immediately tripped again. I reset the breaker outside and whatever was happening in the heat pump was resetting the breaker.
At that point, I opened up a ticket with American Home Shield. Within probably 24 hours, I had a service call with appointment with R & K. Within maybe 48 hours after that, they came out and looked at what was going on with my unit. They had to get approval from American Home Shield for the repair because it was kinda pricey. They had to wait for the part because American Home Shield ordered the part and had it drop-shipped to them. Since the new compressor was installed, the unit has been fine. However, we don’t know what's normal noise or what's not ‘cause it’s different than what it was. Every heat pump or air conditioning unit or furnace that heats and cools your house has its own distinctive set of noise. The noise that we were used to was the sound of a compressor failing. So, now we’re getting used to what is the sound of a compressor working normally.
I’ve lived in my house since ’96 and the heat pump that I have is original equipment, so it’s about 26 years old, which is a long time for a heat pump. Last year, they had to put a new fan motor in and a new blade. This year, they had to put in a new compressor, and there was not an issue at all with American Home Shield doing it. I was talking with the guy at R & K and he said, “Dude, you had a new motor, a new compressor, and a new fan. You got a completely refurbished heat pump now, so you’re good for another 26 years.” It is good ‘cause I don’t have the appetite for replacing a whole heat pump. That’s kinda pricey. My other sister just had a heat pump replaced. She didn't have American Home Shield, and it was expensive.
I always got timely responses with American Home Shield and they always did what they said, so it’s good. It’s good that people do what they're supposed to do. If everybody in the world would do that, it would be a much happier place. When my sister moved and bought a house down here with me, I told her to have them put in a one-year contract with American Home Shield as part of her closing in case anything goes south. And she did. So, to that end, I’m pretty satisfied. And what a happy coincidence because they were in their house for six months and their hot water heater broke. American Home Shield's contractor came out and replaced it. It didn't cost them a dime.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

It was easy to submit claims for the most part. However, we deal a lot with the people who are overseas and the representative was very hard to understand. Whenever I kept telling her that I didn't know about heaters, I could tell she was just reading from the script. Then she just kept on and on and then she started getting frustrated and just said to submit it as how she submitted it. She wanted me to say yes or no. Then the guy from West Texas Air was very nice and sweet. He called me within a couple of hours and he was able to work with my schedule as I only have weekends off. He was able to come over on a Saturday morning so that was really great. The flame sensor was out on my heating and he did it right then. Whenever I renew, I'm gonna stay with American Home Shield.

CK Appliance Repair, LLC came out for the range. The electric connection to the coil, all that little block, had burnt out and I submitted the claim online. The website was pretty user-friendly. CK Appliance called and told me when they were coming out, who was coming out and that they will call us when they were almost close by. They came out the first time and evaluated it, and then they came back out. They worked on it but I had a list of our concerns on the range and they didn’t repair everything. The technician had overlooked one of the major things which was an outstanding one. Even when the range was off, the light was on to indicate that it was it on. So there was a disconnect and he didn’t have one of the range tops to replace when he came out. So then he had to come back again to complete it.
Also, the oven’s automatic self-cleaning was not working as well so he put a whole, new board in it – all new connectors and all new coils. It seemed like they could’ve just replaced the oven because everything that made the oven an oven and the stove a stove had to be replaced. We kept asking why they aren't replacing the stove instead of doing all of these. They did such an expensive repair that in my research in looking at the cost, it would’ve been more cost-effective to just replace the whole range. Either it was American Home Shield or the repair people that chose to repair it. But it’s doing okay now.
Another thing is when contractors come out, they say they only do so much. I would ask if they could just tell us what we need to do to get it fixed so then we’ll know who to call and what to say. They would say they just don’t fix it. We got a issue with our commode and we’ve called the contractor out and they tried the snaking. It’s just slow moving. I asked what the next step was and they said they don't do the next step, that I have to call an actual plumber because they're not authorized to do anything other than what they had just done. We could’ve snaked it. You’re paying the monthly fee and when they come out, you also pay a service fee and they only do the very basic. Unless it’s major, you can almost save that kind of money yourself. Especially if your appliances are new, you get to save it and get your own repair done.

However, when the delivery guy came to bring the oven, it wouldn't fit in the spot. It was 1/8 of an inch too big. AHS told me that I have to have the cabinet modified, but they don't modify cabinets, which really makes me angry. They didn't even offer to help or give me any names. Then they said to call them once I'm ready for the oven to be installed and they'll call the contractor to come back out. I understand that it's not their fault that the oven doesn't fit. Everybody makes different size ovens. But there is a solution, which is for them to modify the cabinet. They give you all these whistles and bells and say how great they are, but I'm not pleased with them. Their people were great though.

They have an easy claims process but I wish that I could pick a vendor or use people that I know are good or people that have been referred. But they’re not with them, so I can’t use them.
In a recent claim, I got Mac Mac Plumbing for a plumbing issue. I had slow drains going on throughout the house. I’ve been using different products like Drano and Liquid-Plumr, and it would fix the problem temporarily but not completely. Eventually, it did clear some of the drains enough, but there was one drain in particular that needed more attention. So, the plumber came and he cleared it. He also gave us some advice on how to keep them cleared and he was great.

We've had a dryer fixed, a washing machine that couldn’t get fixed but they paid to replace it and we’ve also had work on a drawer in the refrigerator. The warranty on the air conditioning system saved me $1,000, but it still cost me $2600. It’s very difficult to figure out exactly what is covered and what is not. My only suggestion on the air conditioning would be to help the consumer on extra charges that their vendors do because they're stuck with whatever they say. They nickel-and-dime the consumers to get the money. So, when you look at the price of somebody coming in that you know versus your warranty, it saves you money.

I wanted to make sure that outside of my regular homeowner's insurance, I had something to cover all the appliances. I’m doing a lot of updating at home so I wanna make sure everything is taken care of. I had an electric issue and they sent out All Fix Service. The tech who came had been out for the same problem a few months prior. He thought he had fixed it but had not, so he had to come back out. The guy was very professional and mannerable. He kept me informed that they were still looking for the appropriate lighting fixture. It seems like things are fine. I would use them again.
Sometime last year, I had an issue with my furnace. There was a problem with the original contractor that American Home Shield sent out. Finally, they had to have somebody else come because that just didn’t work. That other party that came out was fine. Other than that, the other contractors after that initial situation have all been good and timely.

The dishwasher wasn't pumping water and my wife went back to the old way of washing dishes by hand. I called American Shield and the claims representative was fine and helpful as they always are. The contractors are usually out the next day, and it also happened when Sears came out to do the service. They were really courteous and did a great job, and the dishwasher has been performing great since they were out. American Home Shield is good and they're everything they advertise.

One day, our dishwasher worked and then it didn't the next day. This is the first claim we’ve done and I was pleasantly surprised that it was so nice. I like calling but my wife filed online and she said that the website is good. Someone from Star Services came out and he diagnosed the problem. They ordered a part and he came back a week later to fix it. It was great. If all the claims we ever make are as easy as that, I’ll be very happy. I’ve heard stories that aren’t as good, but based on our one experience, everything worked nicely.

My water heater was terribly flooded, and I couldn’t turn off the water from it to install a new dishwasher. AHS sent someone and he installed the dishwasher and changed the valve on the water heater. Everything’s terrific, in fact, everything that I’ve had done by American Home Shield so far. And that’s two things in the last month. Besides the water heater they also did the stove and replaced the dishwasher. Their technicians were terrific, very professional and knowledgeable. The one who came out for the stove the first time also did the dishwasher, and he was the one that had said that the problem was the water heater. He fixed the stove, but he said it wasn’t a good fix. It was just temporary.
And the next technician who came out determined that the dishwasher definitely was needing replacement. There was a part needed on it, and they don’t make that part anymore, so they said all we can do is replace it, so they did. They sent another guy out and he’s the one who took care of the plumbing. And then they sent the first guy back, and he’s the one who fixed the stove properly this time. So, it took three people and five visits. They had it all done within 10 days. And I’m happy as a clam.
There were a few kinks we had to wok out, but I'm I'm happy knowing that we were able to resolve your claim. Have an amazing week.

Once you get used to something, you kinda stick to it and so, I’ve been with American Home Shield for a while, probably decades. They respond fairly quickly when I submit claims and for the most part, I’ll give an A-minus to the people they’ve sent. I had experience with the guy who came out and put the air conditioner in. He didn’t do the thing right and AHS had to send somebody else out to correct it. I ended up having to pay $3,500 because my air conditioner wasn’t fixable. They said that it was an upgrade. I still owe money on that but that’s the only problem I ever had with AHS. They need to be a little more open about what they cover and what they don’t cover. They kinda made up for the past with what they did recently with an appliance issue I had. The experience with the contractor, Care Appliance Repair, was a good one and the technician did a professional job.
We do appreciate the longevity and your commitment to us. It is greatly appreciated. We are pleased to know that you enjoy your experience with us. Do not hesitate to contact us with any contractual or service related. Thank You.

The first time, the technician got here 10 minutes early. It's not an issue but he never gave us a phone call or let us know that he was even on the way. It's understandable and maybe he was just in a rush but we didn't know, and we were on our way back home. By the time we were pulling in, he was trying to drive out, and it was 10:05. We told him that we were here already and asked him why he was trying to leave. He said that his boss was making sure that we were here and he was not allowed to sit around and wait after us. He had to go to another job. The only reason why he was sitting around waiting was because he didn't give us the courtesy call that we asked them to give us.
So, once that was situated, we got inside. He did his job and everything was fine. But he cut a 9x9 hole in our wall and then replaced it. He put the block back in, but he basically said to spackle it ourselves, or have someone else come spackle it because he had to leave. He told us that it was either AHS would send someone out or we had to get maintenance to fix it. So, we sat with a hole in our wall for about a week. I just finally covered it up the day before yesterday. The technician still did his job right and the bathroom works perfectly fine. For someone who was probably still annoyed, he didn't give attitude. He wasn't upset so he still kept his professionalism.
Spackling that wall wasn't that big of an issue and he didn't know he was gonna have to cut a hole in the wall but it should be one of those things that if he even suspects he has to cut a hole in the wall, he should have spackle to cover it up too. If someone comes in and messes up your stuff, they gotta come back and they gotta fix it. It doesn't have to be perfect. He could put the spackle on the wall and we could sand it down and paint it ourselves. If it's not his job, I can't be mad that it's not in his job description. If he's not supposed to do it, he's just not supposed to do it but he could have made the effort instead of just saying that someone else is gonna come do it, which was the only part that kinda irritated me.
AHS was explained to me that it was a homeowner's insurance. If you have an issue or anything like that and it falls under something they can fix, it's very worth it. When we asked someone to fix it initially, the price that they gave us was way different than the price that AHS gave us, which was better. For what he did, the cutting to the wall and everything, AHS only charged 125. It was a good thing because, at first, he said it would have been free but he had to change a couple of things and add parts, so he had to charge for some extra. But it's insurance that you need.

I've had American Home Shield for about 10 years now and, generally, it's pretty easy doing claims with them. The contractors that have come out were very proper and professional. But whenever I was working with one particular team at American Home Shield, they really gave me a hard time. We wanted to get a second estimate to try to lower the fee to get something done and for us to not have to pay the $75 extra fee for the second person coming out to evaluate. But then, I literally spent hours trying to figure out what had happened and the way it did.
I'm almost 100% the team was Filipino and I understand they were trying to do their job, but it became a mockery because they actually called me back after I talked to them the same day asking if I was happy with the service and the way things are happening. I'm self-employed and trying to fix what was going on took a lot of my time. That was my first real extreme problem with them but I was so disappointed that I'm thinking about switching from American Home Shield. Finally, I figured out that there's another call center that I can call. And when I called them, I was so relieved because I could speak to someone who understood me. Their language was clear enough and I felt like I was gonna solve the problem here. The one gal was very professional and she said she would look into it. She called me the same day and told me that they would not charge me the $75 for the second person that came out.

I had a heating issue where AHS sent out a tech from Affordable Heating & Air. He took care of the problem and was very professional. Apparently, I had a couple of other things going on and he had them written on the piece of paper that he gave me. He also told me that I needed to change my air filter that was causing part of the problem. It was a pleasant experience.
Other than that, every now and again, it’s kinda hard to know things when I'm dealing with AHS' reps. For instance, Myers was the first one to work on my heat months back and when when they were working on it, I didn't know that I should’ve called Home Shield because of the 30 days. So, they didn’t clarify very well who you’re supposed to call. And it was my understanding that if I had trouble inside that 30 days, I could call the company that was doing whatever work it was. Then sometimes when I call American Home Shield to get somebody out, it's very difficult to get someone that knows what they're talking about and doesn’t speak with such a heavy accent. I can’t understand what they're saying and I’m good with accents because I work with them every day.

There was a sensor that they should have put in during the other two times that we told them to come out, but they never did. We had American Home Shield over at the house that we recently sold and we had a few challenges. But that was a major effort as it was putting a new furnace on the roof of a garage and taking it out. It didn’t seem like the people they had do it really quite understood how to implement something in the strange ductwork that we had. So, it was probably as much our problem as theirs. We had to insist that they put a filter in the ductwork, which they were not going to do, and the old one had. Other than that, it worked great once it was in.
The gentleman who did the installation took the old one out and hooked up a new one initially. I worked with him until 2 o’clock in the morning, and it was darn cold that day. But he stuck with it and we got it done. And then the final work with finetuning the ductwork and that type of stuff took a few days. It was on December the 15th when it first went out, and they ordered the furnace, but they got the wrong model. So, that delayed it a little bit too, until they got the right model. Now, here at the condo, we got D & D Appliance and they fixed my washer. The tech had the part and he was up and gone before I even knew it. He was very quick, efficient, and personable.

My washing machine went out on a weekend and I put the claim in. AHS found a company and the person that came out determined that the washing machine was too old to even put money into it. About seven days later, I got a brand-new washing machine. Then, the dryer wouldn’t dry the clothes. I had to dry clothes two cycles to even get it dry. I figured the dryer would probably go out because I bought the washing machine and the dryer as a set when I had my house built. It had the same turnaround so I got a new dryer as well. The quality was top-notch. The washing machine is a lot deeper than what I had and the dryer is a bigger capacity drum. I like my appliances. This claim was outstanding because of the quick turnaround.
American Home Shield covers a lot of my items in my house and those are big-ticket items that normally would cost a whole lot of money if buying it and sometimes, people don’t have that money to buy those. I’ve been in my house since 2005 and stuff is gonna break down. Advanced Home Services came out for an underground slab leak. The gentleman that came out was great. He was courteous. The water district sent me an email and it said my meter was running continuously, and they wanted me to check on it to see if it in fact was a leak or if it was a running toilet. I ended up troubleshooting it myself, and then they came out and they brought out a leak detection company. They found out that I had a leak. And then, I hired a different contractor to come and do the job because their pricing was ridiculous, and the contractor is currently working on it now. And in fact, he fixed two of the leaks and I still have one or two more.
It’s a big headache. So, two of the leaks are fixed where you have to re-pipe it through the ceiling versus underground. They take the line that’s going underground, find the two spots, and then do it through the attic. And then, he’s coming back tomorrow because he couldn’t do it for the last three days. He’s going to try to discover where the other two leaks are and fix those. I've had American Home Shield for about eight years. It works out. Some things are covered, and some things are not, but they’ve taken care of so many issues for me and they’ve been great.

American Home Shield is an amazing thing. Two and a half years ago, their advertisement came through on my tablet. I thought to myself that I really needed to do that. At that point, I was 72 and I lived in an older house. So, I hooked up with them and got them going. Then, my furnace died. I had had trouble with that furnace for the last two years so I didn't ask American Home Shield to cover that repair. I wouldn't be dishonest so I repaired that myself but any time I've asked for help since then, AHS have been right on top of it and they hooked with A-1, who has been out here. I've had several things that have gone wrong.
This time, I was so freaked out. I was here all alone and the water was pouring all over the laundry room and I didn't want the carpet in the hallway, the guest room and my family room to get all flooded. AHS gave the okay post-haste. I just love them. I'm 74 years old and things like this throw me for a loop. The guys came in and did a fabulous job. There was next to no damage to my carpet or anything in the downstairs. They turned the water off immediately so the damage didn't continue to go into my house. Then, they listened in through the walls and heard the leaks and figured out where they were and crawled under the house and the crawl space. They found the leak under the shower. Within a few hours, they had it all fixed. They were wonderful and I get teary to think about it because I was so scared.

In the past, you had to wait on the phone a little bit when filing a claim. But it seemed like this last time around, it went pretty quickly.
I had High Priority Plumbing and Services come out and it was great except the guy had to come back a second day. He put a pipe on the tub faucet that didn’t fit the whole faucet casing. It was like the end of his day and so he had to knock off and come back on Saturday, which was a little bit inconvenient but not as inconvenient as it would’ve been if it had to be Monday. At least he did come back on Saturday and otherwise, it was good. He even texted me when he was coming, when he was about a half-hour out.

The garbage disposal wasn’t working. I submitted a claim online with AHS, which is what I usually do as it's more convenient, and they assigned Anytime Home Services to my claim. It took five days for someone to come out but he was very professional. He did the work really quickly, too. He replaced the garbage disposal as it was not functional, and he did it in less than 30 minutes. And so far, it’s working the way that it’s supposed to. I’m satisfied with the service.

We had a previous plumber repair our dishwasher. While he was repairing the dishwasher, he had to put a new pump. He noticed that the garbage disposal was leaking. We called Home Shield and within a week they sent a contractor out. That tech inspected the garbage disposal and put a brand new one in. We've been very satisfied.
Having AHS has been very enjoyable. We pay our $75 fee and they send somebody out. We've had four contacts with them already. I've had problems with my dishwasher, dryer, hot water heater and my garbage disposal. Everybody whom they have sent has been professional, responded when they're supposed to and taken care of the job. I would recommend anybody buying a new home to get AHS' warranty. It has paid off for us.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Edward. I am happy that we were able to resolve your claim. Have an amazing weekend.

Having American Home Shield for home warranty is very fine. But they're like every other company these days. It's hard to connect with a human being. I don't like being connected with somebody in the Philippines. They don't talk loudly enough and they are not aware of the American expressions. It's different here than their country so they do not have our life experience to deal with. They actually didn't know what a drain on the bathroom sink was. In fact, I don't like being connected with so many other countries, period. But I will deal with it if I have to and talk to them. When the drain pipe on the bathroom sink had corroded, we called on a Friday and On Time Plumbing was out on Monday. It was excellent dealing with their guy too.
I apologize for the langauge barriers when encountering customer service as I can understand your frustration. Thanks or sharing your warranty experience Tommy. Have a great week.

My water heater was making noises, so I called AHS. The guy from Humboldt Plumbing had to make an appointment a week out. I didn’t know that the water heater was leaking because it was going underneath the floor underlayment. It wasn’t until the carpet got squishy the next day that I knew that it was leaking. So I called him again and told him that he would have to come faster. That was on a Thursday evening and he came on Saturday morning. He was very nice. He put the hot water heater in and plumbed it and did everything in one day. They tore up all the bamboo and my carpet into the front room and down the hall, part of the kitchen and the bathroom. They also had fans and dehumidifiers and all that stuff.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for seven years and when they first started, it was a great concept. The coverage was great but because it is a warranty company, a lot of larger, more well-known name companies don’t honor their warranty. So, I have had an experience or two with a company that wasn't the best quality to make repairs. American Home Shield themselves are fairly easy to deal with and I’ve not had any trouble out of them. The caliber of some of the companies they use has been a little bit questionable but AHS was more than willing to work with me when I was not happy with the company that they sent.

I called in with two issues, and both issues were resolved very quickly. My HVAC was making a whining sound that never ever stopped, 24 hours a day. In the dead of night when I was trying to sleep, it would wake me up. It was more shrill than loud. I also called about a plumbing issue, and the rep told me that I would be charged two fees. It was reasonable to me since they would require two different trades to come out here.
The actual repairman who came out was fine. It was quick. When he got out of his truck, he walked around to the side of the house where half of the HVAC is located. Then he came in, knew immediately what the problem was and fixed it. When the HVAC turns off, it’s absolutely silent in my house, which is fabulous. With the plumbing issue, the tech couldn’t fix it the first time so the plumbing people contacted American Home Shield to say he needed to come back and do something else, and they authorized it. So, I’ve been very pleased.

I always get an appointment through a rep when I submit claims to American Home Shield. It is most convenient for me. The contractors I’ve seen are very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. They’ll tell you right away what the problem is and explain briefly what’s going on and what should be done. Then, they do their job in the right way, which is all I care about.
The refrigerator is still a pending claim. One of the components is broken so that needs to be replaced. I’m getting a loud noise in the fridge and a cracking sound plus the ice cube maker is not working. It is broken because of a part, which has been ordered. The vent is pending as well. They found out that there is some clog so, a technician will be sent to clean that up and to take a look how it works. I’ve been with American Home Shield since 2001. When I used to live in Indianapolis, I used to have the warranty service thing. The service, the follow-ups and the response had significantly improved compared to the last warranty experience. It has changed compared to the last six years.

Premier Appliance came out for the dryer and the person they sent was so experienced that I was so pleased. He walked in, pulled it out, looked at it and said he knew exactly what the issue was. Sure enough, he pulled it out and it was a fuse that we would've never seen. It’s way at the bottom. My husband was so surprised also. He helps me with a lot of things that are maybe messed up but we couldn't figure it out. This guy did it in less than 10 minutes and he fixed it. That’s how good he was.
It has been about eight months since I got American Home Shield. I was looking for a company and my neighbor was the one who recommended them. He said that if I start having problems, have little things, it’s very much well worth it. Sure enough, I had my disposal go out. A different company came out that time and now my dryer. These are little things that happen that you don’t expect.
If you don’t get American Home Shield, you are in for some big expenses. I like the fact that there's a fee that I pay every month and then the one-time fee for a contractor to come out is what I really enjoy the most. My husband was doing the math and he kept saying I was paying so much. But I told him that if we turn around and have to buy a new dryer, we're talking between $250 to $500. That in itself was a plus. So you may start doing the math and think you're not getting a good deal but I think you are. I really do. Every time I’ve contacted American Home Shield, they’ve been quick to respond and they send out someone right away. That’s what really impresses me about them. I don’t have to sit there and wait for a while.

We had a leak in the toilet tank. It sounded like it was always running. The guy from Plumbers, Inc. was here on time, very polite, and professional. He changed stuff in the inside of the toilet and said that if we ever had any problems, we'd give him a call and then he left. AHS handled everything perfectly this time. Most of the people that go around and do the work are pretty good, but if they assign me to someone that is just an idiot or shouldn’t even be working there, I will call and tell them to take that name off the list because I will not accept them in my house. Some of the contractors are less than qualified and I’m not sure why they even hire those people. But I suppose they hire who they can get.
There’s one guy that works on big appliances, like my washer and my dryer and he does a good job. I had no problem with him. But we had one guy come in for the ice-maker that was not working. He opened the door, looked at it, closed it, and said that he'd order one. That was all he did. I could’ve done that myself. Then we waited three weeks before we got it. The company called back, then he came, didn’t say a word, put it in, and left.
AHS should also answer their phone when calling them. I’ve tried calling them to request for a service on something, and it will ring and ring, and I finally end up quitting. If I will go to the website, it’s an okay website, but if they ask what is wrong or if I have more than one thing, I’ll just start all over. If I put down refrigerator and then the issue on the list that they have has nothing to do with my issue, there’s no place to put that issue in. So the contractors come and they don’t know what they’re coming for. I wish AHS would clean that up a little bit.

After submitting the claim, I got the confirmation later on that day. That was when they told me the day they were gonna arrive and the time frame. The two gentlemen that came out were excellent. They knocked out the problem right away. They were only here for 20 minutes. It turned out I had some debris stuck in the roller mechanism. Our washing machine was gathering water and since that was the first time I was claiming an issue for repair under the policy, I called in. There wasn’t a long wait between making a claim and having the appointment scheduled. So it was quick and easy. The contractor came out very quickly the first time. It was within the week and that is all subject to scheduling as when I have time as well. The important thing was that I was in touch with Hot Shot Appliance Service quickly. Then it was just a matter of finding the time in the calendar. That wasn’t even very long because it was a washing machine and we needed it. So we had to make time. But then the part wasn’t available so there was a bit of a wait for the part but that had nothing to do with responsiveness. When the part came in, they were back and they fixed it within hours. It was all quite efficient.
American Home Shield is contracting the service out to other people so you’re subject to how good those service providers are but this crew was good. The claim went well. Maybe there was also a sense the urgency because it is a washing machine and what do we do if we can’t wash our clothes? So they all moved quite quickly.
The scheduling was also good. When you have these long windows of anywhere from 9:00 to 12:00 or 1:00 to 5:00, it’s not the easiest to deal with. But they have this app where they send you this message where you can track where the technician is and that's really helpful. You get it when you get the text message saying they may be there in an hour. It is really helpful as opposed to blindly staying at home for hours and not being able to move. With that, I would know I can go do something. I happen to work close to the house so I could leave work and be home in 15 minutes. The window is easy to handle when you have that kind of information. It was good use of my time.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

Whenever I have a claim, I call in and AHS assign somebody. There are times when, unfortunately, it appears that it takes a little longer. A couple of months ago, they had to go with Carrier for our air conditioning and it was up to them to be able to get the new motor part to the people that fixed it. Fortunately for us, we didn't need the air that time. There were also times when we needed a little bit more heat than that, but that's the way it goes. Still, they did fix it.
In my recent claim, we had two things almost the same time and Whirlpool was sent out. We had a motor on our air conditioning unit that was replaced and then we had a refrigerator that the gentleman that came for the first time evidently replaced the part but it didn't stop it. The gentleman that came the second time discovered the problem and our refrigerator is working fine now. So, we've been very satisfied with AHS. I've been with them for quite a few years and they have taken care of our needs.

I had an electrical issue with my socket and it was making my freezer, my refrigerator, and my stove have electrical issues. And they had stopped working. The contractor fixed the issue the day he came out. However, submitting my claim with AHS was not easy. It felt as if they weren’t listening. I explained to them that my mom had just passed and that I was trying to get things handled because I wanted to make sure I didn't have the issues when we had the service. They said that they understood, but no one told me that they couldn’t get someone out on that same day. If they told me, then I would have asked if there was anybody else.
Once I found out, I asked what they were expecting me to do with the food in my freezer and refrigerator. They said that they were sorry and that they couldn't get anybody out here. It was really ridiculous. It’s frustrating if you’re trying to get something taken care of and you don’t have all the information in front of you at the time. If they don't tell you, "We don’t know if we can get someone out there today, but we will try our best,” then you’re gonna be thinking that they'd do it as soon as possible. Think twice before getting American Home Shield. They may not be the best solution.

Original Review: Feb. 3, 2020
When I had a plumbing issue, I called American Home Shield and told them what the problem was. They set up the plumber to come out and it was a horrible experience. When we bought the house at the end of December, we had a full inspection for the entire house. It’s a big house, almost 3,900 square feet, and they didn't catch everything. So, in the master bathroom, once we were moving some stuff in, my wife noticed there was a spot that was about the size of a pencil in the ceiling along the edge of the wall. When I went and poked my finger, it went all the way through. You could tell that they just painted over it as much as possible and you couldn’t really detect it. I opened it up a little bit more. When I looked, I could tell that there was a leak in the pipe. It was one of the drainage pipes for the upstairs.
Because the house is 12 years old, and it looked like it was a drop coming down every 4 or 5 hours when you use the water, it wasn’t something that you could noticeably tell. We lined up a service call, and the guy came out. Immediately, he enlarged the hole a little bit bigger. I had already checked out where the leak was, and I kinda had an idea what it was. After he did the hole, he looked at it, and in the distance, he said, “I need to go call the home warranty. I think we’ve got a problem.” I thought he was just gonna go call and kinda tell them what the issue was and come back and tell me that he was gonna do it. But by the time he came in, the warranty company already called me and said they were not gonna be able to cover it because the technician said that it’s one of two things, either Drano was poured down the pipe and the Drano caused that pipe to crack, or the house shifted.
I told them I’m not a plumber, but I got up and touched that pipe. There was only one way that that crack happened on that pipe, and it probably happened when the house was built. The shavings from the sawblade were still on the pipe. So, either the people that were installing it didn’t notice that the pipe had been cut and they went and put it together anyway. Then over time, because it was simply a sawblade cut and they shoved it in far enough, unless the upstairs was running water through it, you weren’t gonna see any drops. So, they sealed up the wall and off it went. Over the years, a drop at a time every so often caused that hole. I told them that Drano didn’t do that because if Drano was eating up PVC pipes, Drano would have such a large lawsuit because there’d be other houses that have this kind of issue.
Second of all, if they're telling me that it’s because the house shifted, what a coincidence that it would be one pipe. There are no issues in the walls and anywhere else. And thirdly, the pipes have shavings from where a sawblade did it. I asked if the plumber examined that pipe close enough. Instead of going up there and touching the pipe, he got on the ladder, was still about a foot or two away simply shining a light on it, got off the ladder, and said it was done by one of the two things that he stated. I asked how much it was gonna cost me to fix this and without blinking an eye, he said $1,300. I told him I’ll have this taken care of another way. I told him, "I’m gonna tell you one last time, that was not caused by what you said.” He said I was not the professional and left.
It cost me $15 worth of parts and an hour's worth of labor to fix that. Yet, the company refused to do it. All it took, if you know anything about plumbing, was two elbows and two splices to cut out the piece that was bad and put those back together. He wanted to tear down my entire wall. He said it was in the wall. That’s how closely he didn’t even look.
We do apologize this was your experience and thank you for sharing it with us. We would be delighted to speak with you in this matter. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you in this matter.

I called American Home Shield when I had a pool pump that went out. I got someone out here as quickly as they could. The contractor wanted to check in and make sure what it was first before they did anything. The tech did not bring a pump with him so they had to order a pump. They ordered the pump, and then it was raining on the day that he put it in, so there was a lot of water back there. I noticed the next day when it had stopped raining that the connector pipe from the pump to the actual flow of the water was leaking a little bit. I immediately called American Home Shield and they sent somebody back out there to fix it and they didn't charge me second fee. It was great. The pump is running wonderfully.
My mother had the warranty on her home, and she divvied the home to me and my husband. We checked the policy up and because we had a pool, we went ahead and got a policy for ourselves. It's economical and that full pump paid for itself. I've been very pleased with them. My husband recently passed away, and I've had to have a couple of things taken care of. American Home Shield did the yearly check on my heating system and gave me some really good advice about what to do with my filters and how often I should be cleaning them.

There was a bad coil in the stovetop. My wife handled the claim submission and I don’t think it was too difficult, her calling in and having somebody to come out and look at it. Appliance Pro showed up on time, diagnosed the problem and had to come back and bring the part, and they fixed it.
Great John! We are happy that we your claim was smoothly resolved. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have a good week.

Both the furnaces went out in the house. The first one on one side, and then the second one. AHS sent Air On Demand to service both of them. I did both claims online and the website was perfect. The contractors also emailed me updates, and then within that allotted time frame the contractor had called. Air on Demand has been fantastic. The tech called and came when he said he was gonna come. He called when he was coming back and came back on time and fixed it and left. It couldn’t have been better. That’s the best claim yet. I've been with AHS for three years, and overall they have been a big help. I know what my expenses would be over a given time, and the ups and downs if something breaks.

American Home Shield's claims process was very easy. I went online and filled out the form letting them know that I needed repairs done. I paid the deductible and Joe's Expert Touch Appliances called me and scheduled the appointment. The techs that came out were great. I had two appliances I needed to be looked at and they were quick to figure out what was going on with the oven, and ordered the part that was needed for it. For the washing machine, they cleaned out a pump and checked it all out, and tried to figure out what the problem was there. It was about a week later when they came back with the part for the oven and fixed it. That was our first experience with them. It's all good now.

The hose or an HO warning light was coming on on my washer and the dryer was not drying. So, I went on the website and it was easier to use than the phone for submitting my claim. I'm able to very quickly submit as it gave me multiple choice options of what's happening and I was able to find the options very easily in the drop-down menu for that. Then, it said that I would be contacted by someone within a certain amount of hours. The more impressive thing was I was called before I got up on my computer. I was on the phone with the guy and it surprised me because that never happens that quickly. I was like, "Oh, I almost didn't take the call." At first I thought, "Well, who would be calling me from that area code?" But I just took it and it turned out to be the repair person. That was amazing.
I talked to the repair person from PG Appliance Service and we went over some questions to prepare for what might be happening. He did a little bit of diagnostic work even then or gathered a little bit more history. They were outstanding to work with and the communication skills were great. It helped me figure out what I needed to do to get ready for the visit so it could be more efficient. It worked out really well and everything's been working fine since then. American Home Shield is a great service and everybody should probably have it if they're a homeowner. It gives you peace of mind.

I’ve used the website several times, and it’s user-friendly. It’s also quick and I don’t have to wait on hold, which is good. It gives a much immediate response as well once I submit the claim. The response very quickly confirms that the service order request has been received and also that it’s been assigned to a company. So, I give that high marks. I was having a problem with my heat-air conditioning unit and it was not coming on in the heat mode. Third Generation Plumbing and Mechanical was sent out and the tech was the best tech I’d ever had. He was outstanding. All I needed was for the unit to work, and it’s working, so it’s all good.

I submitted a claim to AHS and they sent Mountain Range Mechanical. The techs who came were very careful in making sure that stuff didn't get tracked through my house as we live in a snowy area. They did a good job and when they left it was all fixed. For most things, AHS has been pretty good. However, if I have something critical like this past summer when we had an air conditioner go out, it takes them much longer than it should to get the problem resolved. It took close to two weeks. We were lucky that it was not a really hot stretch and we were able to stay in our home. Still, if it had been a hot stretched, it would have been impossible for us. That was an issue that could have been fixed in 24 to 48 hours. We may have to go outside the system if they can’t fix it faster.

A tech from ATR General Services came out the next day, looked at the AC unit and determined that it couldn't have been coming from the AC unit. It was from a pipe. In general, the service was good, but it took a little more time than I expected. I understand the contractor needs all of the parts and they pick it up, and then take a time. It’s a little complicated. The technician ordered the parts and sometimes the stores didn’t have the parts, so they need to order them. For example, I had a problem with my refrigerator, and the technician came in but it took a long time for them to get the parts because it was between weekend and holidays. But the refrigerator has been working really good since they fixed it, and I'm happy. They replaced my stove because they couldn't find the part, and I’m so happy with that also. When the contractors come in and they have the parts, they fix it up really fast and they do a really, really good job. Overall, I'm really happy with American Home Shield.

The water heater wasn’t giving hot water quick enough and it would have to run and run to get it. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the claims rep took my information and notified the technician, who called and set up the time. They did their job. They called me the same day, and they came out and explained how the process worked. He came in and tested it, and he said it takes a certain amount of time for it to run downstairs versus running a little bit longer upstairs. They checked for leaks and functionality of the water heater. It has a huge amount of rust on the bottom, and I was afraid for it. It’s enclosed in the garage and it’s 16 years old but it wasn’t leaking at the time, so he said to watch it for leaks, and I can call again if I needed some help with it.
AHS has been good so far and the only drawback I had was on the air conditioning filter. In this two-story home, they have the cover for the filters in the ceiling and you have get up on something to change the filter every month. I’ve been here 16 years and the only thing I do is get on something and open up the cover and change the filter and close it. AHS decided on that claim that it wasn’t normal wear and tear and denied the claim on it. I was not pleased at all. They said it was something that I did to cause it and I don’t understand how I misused it. I’m 73 years, I’m not gonna get up there and play with the cover.

My washing machine was not generating enough water to get the clothes wet, and so I went online to American Home Shield to submit a claim. I got an auto-generated email saying their contractor has a number of business hours to contact me, and they did reach out to me and set an appointment. They were here a little ahead of schedule and their guy was one of the best contractors I've had. He was very professional and he was engaging. He would talk to you. He gave me his assessment on what was gonna happen and what to expect. And when the part came, the same guy came out and installed it.
I’ve also had a few items replaced through American Home Shield instead of being repaired, but I had to come out of pocket a little bit to get to the level of product that I really wanted or felt like I needed. When it comes to replacement, they kinda go a little on the cheap end. They replaced one of my AC units and I went with what they recommended, but I feel like it’s a lower-end product. I ended up paying around $1,600 out of pocket because of things that weren’t covered. I also came out of pocket probably $1,000 to replace my stove. But overall, my experience with American Home Shield was pretty good.

The guy who came was cool, nice, professional and knowledgeable. He talked us through the different steps, why he thought it was the problem and why he would fix it. AHS is like an extra layer on top of home insurance. I'd tell others to improvise a bit more coverage outside of their home insurance, more so for any of the big units in the house and that for a monthly payment, it’s just a $100 fee to get started.
Their website is super simple and easy. When I had a leak coming from behind the toilet and in the basement, I was told to expect the contractor in 24 business hours. But the rep didn't know what the contractor's business day was like. I knew I would be contacted soon, but I didn't know if it would be in two days or in three days. The typical eight-hour shift rate was there, but if the contractor was working two shifts, then I should hear from them within the next day. Someone who could define what the business hours were would've been super helpful.

We're not sure why as we've never had one. It's saying that the comb blower is jammed. When I called, AHS stated that they don't take care of that kind of stuff.
I had somebody come out to replace the garbage disposal when we first moved in. It was completely cracked and leaked all underneath our sink. That gentleman wasn't as kind as the other gentleman that came. I wasn't here, but my oldest daughter was. He said he almost couldn't do the repair. I love American Home Shield. I've tried to get every one of my kids and people that I know to get American Home Shield because it's such a great company to help you whenever you have an issue. Recently, Air Squad Heating & Air Conditioning came out to fix our garbage disposal. And the pipes that were connected to it, there was a clog that was pretty bad. And then the knob on the garbage disposal fell inside of the garbage disposal. So when I turned it on, it sounded like we had a bucket of bolts inside there. Then the water started backing up and the pipe, it came off of that little knob that was supposed to be there, so the water was gushing everywhere.
I talked to American Home Shield and I explained to them what I thought was the problem. They agreed with me and I said, "Please don't send somebody out here and have a look at it and then go, "I think I know what you need to do," and then have to reschedule another visit. I said we've got a 3/4 horsepower garbage disposal and that's what it's gonna take to get replaced. And she said, they'd make sure that they make a note of that. And when the contractor came, he came with a 3/4 horsepower garbage disposal but it's not a KitchenAid. And it is so stinking loud which our KitchenAid wasn't. It's also not a name brand. I asked the guy that did the work about it and he said, "I guess it's what we use so I'm assuming that it's a good brand." But so far, it's working well.
The gentleman that came was really a smart guy. He was very thorough. He did an excellent job 'cause he went over it several times to make sure it didn't leak. And when it did start to leak, he said, "We're gonna redo this because I wanna make sure it's well-seated," and he did. He's very personable and a friendly guy. I was pleasantly surprised.

I noticed that my pool was a little cloudy, so I asked my pool man what was going on. He said that it didn’t seem like the water was getting through the pool pump properly and water was coming out of a part of the pump and it needed to be repaired. So, he recommended I call my home warranty company. I called AHS and they sent a company called Provolt. When they came out, they were out there a very short time. They looked at it and said it looked like there were pipe problems underground. They also claimed that they didn’t see anything around the pump as the problem and that American Home Shield doesn’t cover underground. They said that I should call American Leak Detection, have them come out and find the underground leak, then have them repair it.
So, I did that and it cost me $325 to have them come out. When they came out, they did a full pressure test, then they gave me their whole package of checking pipes. They said everything looked perfect but there were two leaks above ground and one was pretty severe. They also said that the leaks were adjacent and connecting to the pump, and that the problem was misdiagnosed by Provolt. So, I called American Home Shield and they did a second opinion. Pure Pool came out and immediately discovered that there were two leaks. The tech said that one was a relatively massive leak, and that both were above ground and connecting to the pump. They immediately fixed it and everything has been working fine since. So, I have nothing but good things to say about Pure.
Afterwards, I reached back to American Home Shield and told them what happened. They called Provolt and Provolt confirmed that they told me that I had to call this American Leak Detection Company and have it checked. It turned out that I did not need to do that because the leaks were above-ground in the first place. So, I asked them to refund the $325 that I had to spend out-of-pocket to have American Leak Detection come out as I was told by Provolt. I was told it is in process right now, but I haven’t heard back from them as far as if it’s been fixed or not or if I’m getting my check sent out for the 325. That seems to be taking a while.
Aside from that, my recent experience with the pool is not the first time I’ve had to have a second opinion because the contractors that they use are not the best contractors out there. It’s like a coin toss, sometimes you’ll get somebody that is good, and sometimes you’ll get somebody that’s terrible. You never know what you’re gonna get. I have a number of contractors that I have in my records with them that I have told them to absolutely not send out.
I had another situation where I simply had a clog in my kitchen sink and when they sent somebody out, those people told me that there was all this grease and this and that. They said I needed to drill a hole through the wall of my house and put a trap outside of it and do something, which was gonna cost thousands of dollars to do. They told me this was the only way we could fix the issue. So, I hired my own plumber and paid out of my pocket outside of American Home Shield. The guy, before he even got to my house, saw that we had these pipes that are on the roof of our house that are clean out pipes. He took a look at it then got a pressure hose and put them into those pipes. It immediately cleaned out the clog and cost about $65. This happened about a year or so ago and the pipes worked fine ever since.
Once again, AHS sent somebody out that was trying to gouge me for thousands of dollars. Then a real plumber came out and fixed it in 20 minutes for $65. This is the type of thing that’s happened to me four times in the last four years where I had to constantly have a second opinion come out. In some instances, I had to pay out of my own pocket to get it done right, which really is not the purpose of having a company like American Home Shield. They’re supposed to prevent having to pay out of your own pocket. You just have pay your monthly premium then they charge $75 for each repair.
Other than that, AHS occasionally sends out people that do a good job the first time and the warranty has come in handy. I had a water heater that had to be completely replaced and the cost of the actual water heater as well as most of the installation was covered. That would’ve cost a fair amount of money, though I still had to come up with an additional $1,000 in that case because there are codes in California and our previous water heater wasn’t up to that code. So in replacing it, I had to pay an additional $1,000 to the repair person to bring it up to code.
I also had the pool heater that broke down and was replaced. The new pool heater and its installation were completely covered, and it only cost me $75. So, in that instance, it was great. The company that did it was called SPEAR and because I remembered what a great job they did, they were the ones I requested for my recent claim where AHS eventually sent out Pure Pool.
All in all, AHS is not a terrible company. But I was gonna call them because I was wondering why there is a bigger than usual increase in my monthly bill. I started paying in the low 60s two years ago, then the next year we paid 65. This year, it went up to about 75 a month, so it went up $10 and there was no explanation why it went up so much. Also, I have to fight with them all the time for my claims, which is a shame. But after having to go through the whole process of fighting with them, I end up getting what I should be getting 90% of the time.
The only time I didn’t was when I had an air conditioner repair. I even went to the California State Board of Insurance to fight the fact that they weren’t gonna fix the air conditioner and even they told me that that particular issue was not typically covered by insurance. In that case, AHS was in the right and I had to replace my air conditioner system out of my own pocket.

I've had American Home Shield in at least five houses. The contractors that they've been sending out have been fantastic lately. I had an issue with my hot water heater and the one they sent drained it, fixed the issue, and got my hot water heater back working again. They were awesome and wonderful. We have had some in the past that we had significant issues with. When I was out of town, I had one guy who was trying to charge my wife $1,500 to replace a simple $30 valve. That was not a good experience then around seven years ago.
Also, when we had an issue with our double oven, the guy that was sent wasn't capable of working on it so we had to reschedule with another group of guys that could handle it. Then nobody brought the part. American Home Shield doesn't let them bring the part with them in anticipation of replacing the unit on the spot. It's like they have to diagnose it and then they have to come back unless it's a simple fix. Then for the tech, if something's giving them an error message and they could identify that, then they should be able to bring the part with them. But all of our experiences since then have been very good.

We had a plumbing issue where Visalia Plumbing was sent by American Home Shield. My drains are running now. The contractor was very polite and did his job. I have a hard time with service people in my house because of a past problem, but he was very nice, and I was comfortable. The only thing is American Home Shield should not be such sticklers on the words used when trying to file a claim. I live by myself and with this drain, it needed to be cleaned out. That was what I called it. If the water is sitting in the sink, it needs to be cleaned. They said, "Oh, we don't do that." I've had the runaround for weeks. I don't know which words I'm supposed to use, but I have standing water, and it's not draining. To me, it needs to be cleaned out.
My daughter came down and she was disgusted because I was washing dishes in pans and throwing the water out on the lawn. My house stunk because of the plumbing. And they weren't gonna do the issue because it wasn't covered, and I haven't been able to find anybody. And she ended up calling and finally used the correct words because she has a home warranty herself. And so, I got scheduled. But it was a mess!

Now, not even an hour after he left us, I went ahead and started doing laundry. I put a load in there and it started making the noise again.
The gentleman showed me these long tubes and it had a suspension thing on the bottom. And because he just changed them, it might be something that they would just have to grease up and start working. I did three loads and the noise just kept going on and on. I had to do another load today and it was still doing it. I even recorded a video because the gentleman had mentioned that my drain hose was fairly long. So, when they called me back to let them know to come out, the rep asked if we changed the drain hose. I asked her what would that do with the noise that the machine was making. So then she said that they would have the technician come back out.
My husband was here when the technicians came back out and checked it. They told him that it was an issue with the transmission. They said they were gonna contact AHS and then I would have an appointment scheduled with them tomorrow morning between 8:00 and 12:00. They were also sending the senior person from Cal Valley Appliance.
The technician from Cal Valley Appliance was very professional. He called me and said he was 40 minutes and 20 minutes out. Then he showed up around the time he said he was gonna be here. We've had AHS coverage with this house for a little over a year. I can just make one phone call and they send somebody for me. I don't have to do the legwork of trying to figure out who covers it and when can they come. It's just irritating 'cause the washer is not fixed.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you to make sure your issue is resolved. I look forward to assisting you.

We've been keeping American Home Shield since we bought the house and it's now 25 years. It takes a little bit of time sometimes to get somebody out, but it’s understandable. It's what we usually end up with when we turn on the air conditioner or heater and we start having problems. The contractors are usually booked up but they do well. We had plumbers come out a couple of times, and they weren’t too hot. But everybody else was real good. The last guys we got from Jim Conrad Electric were wonderful. They called and said, “We’re running a little late.” And then the owner also called and said they were running late. All our electric was out all of a sudden in one room and we didn’t know what it was. The guy figured it out and tracked it down.
Denise,

My microwave sparked, it fizzled out. We thought something had blown in the house. We went downstairs and we reset our stuff and it didn’t work. We submitted our claim and the tech from HBC Mechanical Contracting Company came in. He explained to us what he was doing, he changed a thing, and then he told us to resubmit the claim if we had any more problems. When he left and it happened again, we resubmitted a claim. It was on a Friday when I notified them. That Monday was Martin Luther King day and he called us that Monday and told us he would be right back out. When he came back out, he changed the same thing and it wouldn’t power back on. He said he will contact our homeowner’s insurance and let them know, and AHS contacted me through email. The tech was respectful, showed up in a timely manner and he did everything we asked him to do. It was a great experience.

We agreed they would call on July 27, 2019 and set up plan if I was able to cancel my other home warranty. I cancelled my other home warranty on July 27, 2019 and American Shield called we set up plan. I set up a auto pay. They sent contract. All was well. It is now January 31, 2020. I call today and find out I don’t have coverage with them.. Meaning I have been living without a home warranty for several months and didn’t even know. My income isn’t where I have to watch my auto pay at all times. So I wasn’t aware that it wasn’t set up with them properly. I’m grateful that nothing was actually broke. It was my first time using Home Shield and I was satisfied with it. Filing claims online is pretty easy. 495 Garage Door did the hinge between the garage opener. Also, the garage door was broken so they had to repair it. They put two new screws in. The guy was here for less than 15 minutes. He knew exactly what was broken, looked at it, fixed it, and that was it. He fixed it very quickly. He pointed out something else that I could fix as an upcharge. I called my friend who is an engineer. He said, "No, don't do that." And we talked about it, but you can't control that. It was just him trying to sell me something else outside of this coverage. But other than that, it was a good experience. It was very smooth and efficient.

I was supposed to have two claims with American Home Shield, for the toilet and the faucet, but when the plumber got here, he wasn't aware that my kitchen faucet was also on the same order. He did a great job replacing the toilet, though. He then told me that because I had a Kohler faucet in my kitchen, I should just order the piece, which would be free of charge from Kohler, and they will come back and install it. So I did that and I got everything that Kohler sent out last week.
Now, I am still waiting for them to call me to set up an appointment for somebody to come back out, and it's kinda aggravating. But American Home Shield did good. They reached back out to the plumber themselves. I called them yesterday and they told me to give them another day and they would call the plumber back. But nobody else contacted me to set up an appointment. It would be great if American Home Shield can just set it up and schedule the appointment then send it to me instead of me calling. Other than that, we're very satisfied with them. This is all very new, only since December, and I've had to call about three times for different things in the house.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was a super good experience. Everything was done quickly and satisfactorily. The ice machine in my freezer was not working and my dryer was making a really loud squeaking noise. To submit the claim, I found the form on the website, filled out a couple of boxes, filled in the serial numbers, and sent it in. The website was easy to use. There were several options for what was wrong with the appliances, but none of the listed options fit in for my issues so I just listed "other". And that didn't seem to be a problem. The website said I’d get a call within 24 hours and I did. The contractor reached out and we scheduled the time. He showed up right on time and was wonderful. The initial part he put in the ice maker was faulty, but he came right back out and put a new one in. Other than that, everything has been great. The dryer is totally quiet and now I’ve got ice.

The first time we had a claim, an air conditioner company came out here, and that did not go well at all. The tech wasn’t honest. He came in and said we needed three to four pounds of Freon, and he didn’t check anything. He didn’t even try to see where the leak was. We paid him $100, and he put the Freon in with coloring stuff in it so they could find the leak the next time they came. I called the company and I tried to tell them what the man had done, but they didn’t seem interested.
AHS then sent out True Temp. The tech wanted to know what was wrong and we told him. He said he knew exactly what was wrong and then he went to the back and looked at the air conditioning first. And then he said he had to go in the attic since that's where the unit is. He came back and he said he found the leak. We could hear his little machine going, “Beep-beep-beep-beep” where the leak was. He told us he had to order the part and call AHS. He called them and then they called us and they said it can’t be repaired. It has to be replaced. So we had to pay for the Freon and they paid for the part. They came the next week and replaced it.

I was satisfied with the technician that came out to fix my split unit. But I’m not satisfied with the way Home Shield handle their business. It took me a year to get the unit fixed. They kept sending out guys that didn’t know what they were doing. The first contractor that they sent out was fly-by-night. I found out he was doing this on the side. He was a part-time preacher. The tech that fixed it came from the fourth contractor that came out here. So now, if I ever have any problem with it, they are the only one I want to come out. I already made that clear to Home Shield.
Home Shield also gave me a lot of runaround for a whole year. When I kept calling them back, they kept putting me as a new call in. I kept trying to explain to them that the unit haven’t been fixed so why were they charging me the same thing? They did that four times on me. I wasn’t very pleased with that kinda situation. Also, they need to screen all their contractors a little better. They got a lot of contractors on their board, but all of them don’t work on split units. So they need to differentiate between the split unit and a central air unit. But for everything else that I called them on, Home Shield warranty was fine.

We had a ceiling fan light fixture that stopped working, and the contractor came out and identified the problem, coordinated with American Home Shield on our behalf, and then came back for a second visit to install a new ceiling fan for us. I do my claims online and the system is pretty straightforward. We can do it with our address, and we don’t even have to know our contract number. We can click what’s wrong and they’ll set up a contractor, and the contractor then calls us to schedule an appointment. It’s pretty easy. The contractors have done good work. But I'm worried that if our air conditioner was to break, we’d get a cheaper model or less efficient model than I might like. So it would be nice if there was a feature to pay for an upgrade so we could upgrade from whatever their base level is to a more high-end unit.

I've been with American Home Shield for five years now. I also have a policy with OneGuard for another property I own, but then American Home Shield ended up buying OneGuard, so it didn't make sense to switch. I had a claim with Loyalty Home Services for plumbing and the scheduling was convenient. The technician was honest and did not try to upsell me. It was a positive experience. In the past, I’ve had some nightmarish experiences with American Home Shield plumbers where they have tried to upsell us into stuff that we didn't needed.
When submitting claims, I haven't had to interact with them in the last couple of years. Before that, it was a very unpleasant experience because they were very hard to get hold of. Also, when I had an issue about plumbing for the shower, they said the shower valve would need to be replaced, but they would not pay for any of the drywall work. But in the last couple of years, I’ve not had to request any assistance from their customer service.

It's the worst service I’ve ever seen in my life, but the people I’ve talked to and the people who answered the phone are very competent. They’re very efficient and very good on follow-through.
Also, my experience with their provider who did the service on my heater was superb. I went online for my claim and the contractor called me within 24 hours to set the appointment, which was fine. The first time he came out, he said it looked like the gas had been not on, that the gas pallet was out. He instructed me to call him back if it happened again. They called me about an hour after I turned in the request. They wanted to come out at noon the next day, but we had company coming in, so they said, "Okay. We'll jump it up. We can do it 10 o'clock." And they did. They were absolutely timely and very professional. And Ray, the technician they sent out here, was super nice. He explained everything that he was doing and told us exactly what needed to be done. He even told us we were using the wrong light bulb in the fixture and told us what to get. As a result of getting the right light bulb, we saved money and it gave us a better lighting. That experience was fantastic.
The plan I got covers everything. I didn't even know they covered electrical until my daughter said that I got the plan to cover that. So it's even better. So, they checked and opened it so the air would go through. They said the filter was very dirty and that was the problem. But on the second time, which was about four days ago, because it wasn’t working, Mike came again and he did a very good job. He went all over the house, opened out the fan, and fixed something in the bedroom that wasn’t working. It’s all fine now.
The only thing is I didn’t have the heat for the whole weekend because the next available time was Monday. That was a big problem especially in the city like Philadelphia where the winter is so cold and I have three kids at home. Unfortunately, I know how weekends are complicated, but when we have this kind of problem, we need somebody to come as soon as possible. Other than that, I've been with AHS for about three years, and the service has been fine.

AHS has been wonderful for us. We’ve had them for eight years now. And we had one issue years ago and ever since then, it’s fine. It was an optional replacement. They replaced our washer and our microwave after several years. I can really feel that they’re short-staffed in those offices now because if there’s an issue, it’s easier online considering I cannot get a live person on the phone. If I were to have an issue today, if I need to have a plumber come back out, I would not be able to get a live representative on the phone for a 40-minute hold. So, it’s much easier just to do it online now. Recently, we submitted a claim online for a leak and the guy that came was fantastic.
Thank you for sharing your experience, and we will take into consideration of your past issue. We are pleased to know that you are able to access the online option and use it to your liking. We do appreciate the feedback.
