    The heating unit was making a huge, vibrating noise that sounded like an air compressor. Metropolitan Heating & Air Conditioning was super honest. They replaced the screws that came loose and re-mounted it. It only took them 10 minutes. It was a guy and his son and they were super professional, informative and very courteous. I was super impressed. This stuff always happens when it’s happening for everybody, like cold weather, so you can’t ask for faster stuff. I’m sure if it was a 911, they may have handled it differently, but no, I don’t think so.

    Most of the time, American Home Shield sends out people that are very professional and I don't have any problems about what they come out to repair. I've been with the company for some years. I do my claims on the phone, and it's easy. A-US Air came out most recently, and the tech was awesome. He was very professional. He went over what was the problem and came back to fix it after he received the part. I love AHS.

    I submitted a claim to AHS because I had a microwave issue. It stopped working. AHS sent AT Appliances out and replaced a part in it. So, it's working fine. I've had about four claims altogether with AHS and my experience has been pretty good so far. I haven’t had any big issues, except I have to wait for the vendors to make the appointment. But the contractors have all been pretty good so far. However, sometimes, I don’t know if they have other options, as far as vendors being available. Like when my heater is out and I can't get an appointment till Monday. I've got to go the weekend without heat. Maybe they have others who can expedite the service. That's one thing I would ask for.

    I have had AHS since July last year. I've had it in the past too, so I decided to get it again. I looked around and AHS seemed to be what I needed, comprehensive-wise. It was really great that it covered 10 different appliances and you could pick them. So far, I got good service. One time, I could hear the heater turn on but there was no heat blowing out. The first person they were gonna send out had a really bad rating and I looked them up. It was a father-owned business for years and the son took it over, and the son started getting complaints about not doing things legal. I called AHS and I asked to switch and they said no. But they said I could cancel the order and restart it. AHS gave me Leo Smith Heating & Cooling and Leo was awesome. He was honest, and he got it done quick, fast and cheap. I would request him again. He really knew what he was doing. Overall, I got what I was expecting. I'm happy with what I paid for so I'm gonna keep the policy.

    We have a rental property that was not intended to be a rental property. We purchased AHS with the idea that if we're not gonna be there to take care of it, it can get pricey. We've used them and they do what they say. When they go out, there's a $75 upfront fee for all covered items. What they don’t tell you is that although your refrigerator may be stated as covered, there are portions of the refrigerator that will not be covered and that you will have to pay out-of-pocket on top of the $75.

    The same way with the air conditioning. If it goes completely out, that is covered. However, if you have to replace a $1,200 portion of the air conditioner, which we have done, it is not covered. Same thing with the hot water heater. It would have been easier just to replace the water heater, but they wouldn’t cover for it to be replaced. It had to be repaired and because it was a different type of water heater, we still had to pay the $900 plus the $75.

    There are small loopholes within the company that allows for things to not be covered. We can't afford to hire a legal team to fight. We're staying with them for this rental site that we can't afford. Our home is 11 years old now and so if anything goes out or if something major happens, we can't afford to pay everything out-of-pocket. At the same time, we've looked at going away from AHS and just putting that money aside. But we're kind of in limbo with what we can and cannot do. It's a comfort knowing that a large item would be covered, but because we've experienced so much not being covered, it's just as much as stress as it is a comfort at this point.

    AHS would say that so and so is covered to a certain extent, but you just have to see what the feedback of the individual that goes is. And you can only use certain individuals that are covered through AHS. We have a management company that manages our house and several times, we've just used them because their charges were gonna be less to repair the item. They would go out and look and see what the issues were prior to charging us anything. It was easier for them to go out and fix it as opposed to having AHS go out and possibly having it not be covered.

    For the most part, the contractors have been pretty much fair across the board. However, you can't get a second opinion when it is something major, like the water heater. We could have replaced the whole water heater for the price that we had to pay to repair it so I feel like that did us a disservice instead of a service. I wasn’t 100% sure and satisfied with the feedback and the information through the contractor. Moreover, AHS wasn’t upfront. We've been with them for six years now and they have covered several small things, so I can't completely say that they haven’t benefited us at all. But with the larger items, I don’t feel like we've benefited on that.

    When there was a strong odor coming from the dishwasher and one of its arms broke, AHS sent out Sears. Sears replaced two parts and it’s working fine now. Everybody has told me all these horror stories about the home warranty. That was the third time I’ve had them out since October and I’ve had nothing but good results. I couldn’t be more pleased.     The icemaker was not working. American Home Shield texted me when I submitted a claim online. And then after that, someone called me and they said that I would receive a message on what time someone would be here. W&W Services was here 15 minutes within the window time. When the contractor called me, he asked me what's my refrigerator and all the info and what the problem was. He said, “Definitely, it’s an icemaker. We will check if we have it available and we will schedule the time.” Then he called me back and told me they had it. So, they came the second day. American Home Shield could lower the price for 100 but so far, the service is really good.

    We’ve had AHS for a long time and have been filing a claim for appliances and plumbing. It’s relatively easy. But I was not impressed with our AC system that we filed last year. Our AC went out and we had a baby. And the way that the process works is you file the claim, they give the ticket to somebody, but it could be days before somebody comes out to see it. And then once that contractor sees the appliance then they have to report the claim back to American Home Shield, who then have to either approve it or deny what they intend to do, and then reschedule that same company to come back again.

    With the dead heat of the summer with a baby, it’s either shop the money and just do it myself or we go to a hotel and pay out of pocket. So we just paid out of pocket, and I was extremely, extremely, disappointed with American Home Shield with that. They have a process, but I was told that they only have a few people that are contracted with American Home Shield. And of course in the dead heat of the summer they are all overloaded. So they’re getting to us as fast as they can but sometimes that’s three days. And then in three days, they come out, saying, “We need to replace this part,” or “We have to go back in and make sure we get it approved from American Home Shield before we come out.” It was terrible. We paid $4,000 out of pocket for our AC unit.

    Everything else has been okay as long as it’s not an emergency situation. Like we have a sink or something going wrong we could utilize another one. The microwave and the dishwasher we dealt with, and it was all fine. David’s Appliance was fantastic, very knowledgeable, very calm and communication was great. They’ve done a wonderful job. They’ve come out for our washer, washing machine and microwave. But not so much on the AC unit. I’ve heard other people’s complaints as well about the ac, so reimburse or get a company out there as soon as possible. They have to remedy the situation and have the company available 24/7 when it comes to that. I would ding AHS for the AC policy or how the system works.

    My wife pays for our American Home Shield warranty which we've had since 2001. They always get somebody out. Other than the one refrigerator kid who came out one Friday afternoon who didn't wanna be here, the guys are okay. We got United Air the last time and the kid was good. He did a good job fixing our air conditioning. Home Shield has replaced the compressor on our air conditioner 3 times but they could also give us more money for our old air conditioner when they totally replace it. The only thing I would be a little alarmed about is if they didn’t cover our new appliances, but they do. They said that if we have it, it’s covered so we’re good there. Still, they could charge us less.

    My garbage disposal locked up and when the tech from Mr. Rooter Plumbing came out, he realized that there was a leak. He fixed it and he put in a new garbage disposal.     We've been with American Home Shield for three years. Our house is 13 years old and it’s getting to the point where there may be more things that could be showing up, so we thought we’d go at least one more year with the warranty company. For a heating issue I had, I called it in. I had a request that Anctil Heating & Cooling to be used on this particular claim because they are a higher-level contractor than the one they originally assigned my claim to. I was surprised that AHS was willing to do that. Anctil responded and made sure everything was working right. They helped us to understand how the thermostats can be programmed better for our usage which was good. They did fine.

    AHS has done everything they’re supposed to do. Other than the reps not being able to understand English, they’ve been fine. When you’re talking to somebody that doesn’t understand your language, you don’t really feel like that person’s attached to you or concerned for you. That’s a major factor for some people. When you want us to pay $1,000 a year for a protection plan, it’d be nice to know that you’re supporting somebody local.

    JED Mechanical came out to look at the hot water tank at the place. They left the paperwork, came out and did the inspection. I went on American Home Shield and had a chat with Sherry on the electronic chat and notified them. They had still not received the paperwork for the estimate from the contractor and I told them I could not wait on them for weeks on end when I have a malfunctioning heating system. The technician came out and did his job, but the people pushing the paperwork failed to do theirs, to the point where it was time to move on. Because it was wintertime in Northern Virginia, I finally ended up talking to a different contractor. I got tired of waiting on them so we ended up having Cool Factory who originally came out to do the inspection on the HVAC. They came out there and fixed everything. Overall, it was a bad experience. I was not happy about it.

    I've been with American Home Shield for almost a year now. So far, I've used their service only one time. They had fast response, but the contractor took a while to get back with us after he came out. It took them more than a month to order a part. I called AHS to verify the status and I tried to call the contractor as much as possible. But it was answering machine and they never returned my call back. I only heard from them after a month when the parts came in. That was the only time they contacted me. When I saw them again, they got the part and everything went well.

    I've had American Home Shield for years. Submitting a claim is very convenient and easy since I go online. Once I go online, I sometimes get a call from American Home Shield or a call or a text immediately, within 15 minutes or so, with the person identifying themselves as the person that’s been contacted by American Home Shield to assist me with my problem. So, that’s always been very convenient and quick.

    The contractors are good. The ones I encountered thus far had been ones that I would recommend to my neighbors if they were having a problem. They seemed pretty reliable. I had a plumbing issue and the guy came out, introduced himself, gave me his business card and investigated the issue. He walked me through every step of what he was doing. The customer service I’ve experienced, within the times I’ve had the house and having to go through American Home Shield, has been one of professionalism.     AHS did really well on our claim for our dryer. The timer on it wouldn’t stay on. They had to order a part, probably something to do with one of the boards or a drive card. It took about a week to get the card in and it was done in a reasonably timely manner.

    I've been with AHS for about a year and a half now and if issues with the house come up, then it’s a warranty that we have an added insurance to help with these issues. Everything was fine with our recent claim with AHS for the oven. The guy was really professional. He had been out before for some other appliance. He showed up on time, fixed the problem really quickly, and was really polite.

    My only concern that I need to address when it comes time for renewal, which is coming up in the next few months, is the cost. I had compared it to some family members in different other homes, and it was vastly different from what they’re paying. And their house sizes are vastly different, so I was gonna take that up with AHS to understand a little bit more of how they’re pricing out the monthly fee based on your house, ‘cause it gets a little expensive.

    The electric heater was going off and the contractor replaced the thermostat. He said it wasn't fitting right and it could short out, which was a surprise when he said that. It has two heating elements and one wasn't working. I just bought this house and the air conditioner, which was the most important thing for me, was serviced before. Everything was supposed to be okay but Basil, the technician, said the wires were spliced and it was producing too much heat. He checked that with the voltage and he said there was too much current going through that. It would be better to have a solid wire than a spliced wire. He said he would replace the wire and he said it was gonna take him an hour and a half. He did and he went beyond that. Nobody's perfect, but I'll give him a perfect score because he did all that.

    My son got the stuff where you do all these phone stuff and it comes on before you go, "Poof”. The technician wasn't gonna do that but he gave me the basic stuff. I didn't even know why the heating element wasn't working and he found that out. I got his phone number so I'll recommend him to anybody. Basil was excellent.

    This is my first year with AHS and I didn't pay for it because the homeowner had to pay for it. It was 500 bucks. That job wasn't a $50 job. It took half of the money right there that we put in. I'm gonna come to AHS next year and I know that if something happens, I'm gonna get it fixed, even though it might cost half of the money I put in for 500. I felt a little guilty but then I looked at it as a million people putting 500 bucks and then whenever something happens, it can be paid out of that pool. Hopefully, it doesn't drain out. I had to pay 75 though, which is a little bit steep. 50 would've been a nice number, but it is what it is. There's a lot of people out there trying to get my business and Choice seems to be trying to get us. They're calling every day but their reviews have too many complaints. I have no complaints from AHS at all.

    American Home Shield gets the job done and it works. I always call in to submit a claim and my interactions with the reps have been definitely great. They assign a provider to my claim and then they would call me within a certain amount of hours, maybe a day, but they respond quickly. Draingo came out and everything went well. The guy came, introduced himself, and then told me that, “I replaced a part in one of the bathrooms, and the other one just needed a little adjusting.” He fixed the problem and I haven’t had that problem since he had completed the duty. He was very professional too.

    I needed a washer taken care of one time. It would wash but it wouldn't spin. I called AHS' office and spoke with a live person. The tech who came out from ARC Appliance Repair was on time and he stayed on task. He wasn't especially loquacious and was just there to fix the washer. He explained the problem efficiently. I had to wait for a part to come and as soon as that came in, they returned and replace the part. I was very satisfied with the result of the transaction.

    Everything went okay with my heating claim. Service One Air came back. They repaired it like they said it. American Home Shield was also responsive and they listened to me. The only thing that concerned me was when the work was finished. My fan is up in the attic. There was some insulation up in the attic and it came down on the carpet. They did nothing about it, but it was no big deal. Nobody would clean up behind themselves. I had to do that. But other than that, I'm satisfied with the job.

    I heard about AHS from my sister-in-law. When my refrigerator was leaking, two different people came out for it. The tech was great. He came in and checked it out. The drain was stopped up and he used some kinda machine to clear out the problem. Then, he cleaned everything up and left. I also had a claim for the AC's ductwork that didn’t go that great All the insulation was coming off, but the guy that came out said something about the air conditioning. I said that it was the ductwork. And he said, “Oh.” I said that it was in the crawlspace. He said that he had to get somebody else to come out. He asked what the crawlspace was like and I said that he has to sit down to get in the door, but then you can stand up. You didn't have to crawl in there.

    He wasn’t sure about it, but I talked him around. I told him I had pictures of the problem. He said to send it to him. I said sure and he was in there for a second and came right back out. He told me that he ran out of forms and didn’t have anything for me to sign. Then, he said that he would put the information in the computer. I asked him a question and he said that he had only worked for the company for three days. I didn't hear anything, but the case showed that it was closed. I called and I was told that it says that, but it’s not really. I waited for another week and still nothing. I called and they said they would send messages to the company to try to get them to send in the information.

    Then, the last time I called, they said the claim was denied. And I asked why and they just said that everything was fine. I said that the tech wasn’t even in there for a second. I was told that he had pictures. I said that those were the pictures I gave him. I asked if I could get a copy of the report and they said I'd have to call the company. I called Max Air and the rep said that it didn’t even look like there was a report done. I told her what AHS said. She said that maybe it was in the parts department. She went, came back and she said that AHS denied it. I said that AHS that the tech said that everything was fine. She said that AHS just said that they denied it.

    I asked if I could get a copy of the report and she said they couldn't send it out. I said that I was told that they would have to send it. She said that they could give it to AHS. I called AHs back and was on hold for quite a while. They were going back and forth getting information. Then they said that they would get a copy and send it to me. But that never happened.

    I’ve used American Home Shield for almost 20 years and usually doing the claims is pretty easy. But you have to work your way through the numbers. You have to know the press, press, press and they get you a live person. Sometimes some of the vendors are not so great, but other times they’re very good. 80% is good experience and 20% you don’t feel like you’re a primary customer. They should have rapid response and then quick claim implementation. My last experience was very, very good. But the one before it for the same problem had dropped the ball, and the vendor never got back to American Home Shield. I never had any conversation with American Home Shield about what the problem was and how it was gonna be fixed. They have to make sure that the vendors they use are really crackerjack and understand that their responsiveness is critical to the customer’s satisfaction.

    There was a time we noticed a leak in our basement room from the ceiling. The plumber came out first and saw the leak and said it wasn’t leak. It was condensation from the air conditioning line. We weren’t down there much. So we didn’t discover the mildew until much later. So then AHS sent RG Plumbing and they wrapped the pipes for us.

    On the top part of the water heater is a tank and it had a slow leak. It’s in a room that I don’t go into very often, so I hadn’t noticed it. It had been dripping and causing another part to get rusty. The first guy came and looked at it. At the time, he said he couldn’t see anything dripping. It was all corroded and he wiped it off. He said to put some paper towels down to make sure that it was still leaking. So, that was what I did and then, I called the next week and had a recall to have him come back out because it definitely was leaking. You could see it and it had evidence on the paper towel as well. So, the next guy came out and replaced the upper tank, which was all I needed. It was quick.

    The first technician was okay but I felt that it was obvious that with the corrosion, there was a problem. There might be procedures that they need to follow and I understand. The second technician was very apologetic that the problem wasn’t taken care of the first time and he took care of it right away. He was in and out within 30 minutes. So, he was great. I like that with AHS, you can have somebody come and look at stuff. I’m living by myself and I can handle some things on my own but when something goes wrong with the appliances, I have no idea with the big stuff and what to do with it. So, AHS has been great. They’re there and they’re reliable. The only other time I had to call was with a refrigerator and there wasn’t a solution with that one but it still works.

    I had leaks in several of the faucets. And the contractors came in, fixed it and did a wonderful job. I was very happy. However, I had an electrical claim and that one did not go well. There was a problem with the doorbell and I wanted to put a ring on there. And when I opened up, I knew it wasn’t working that well. I found that they put a battery-operated doorbell over the electrical outlet. And so, without me going and trying to test it, I asked American Home Shield to see ‘cause it might’ve been covered. And there were a couple of items that he needed to fix too. But he went out and looked at it and said, “There’s a short in the line. It’s somewhere in the wall, and you have to just use batteries.” I said, “You’re not checking things in the attic? Because there’s a component up in the attic that it could have been. Or it could have been the doorbell chime itself.” And he just wouldn’t even listen to me about it.

    I talked to a friend of mine who was an electrician. He came out, and it was the doorbell chime and the thing up in the attic that needed to be replaced. And now, my ring is working. So, this electrician really didn’t evaluate the situation. I was not happy. I also asked for a callback and I never got one. I was very disappointed with that electrician. But overall, I’m very happy with the service of AHS.

    I had an issue with my washing machine once and I submitted a claim to AHS. I cancelled that claim and they gave me the 75 bucks for that. I also had a claim for my stove and they scheduled service with somebody here in Honolulu. However, my stove needed infinite switches and the tech who came didn't put them in. He didn't fix that and the resistors on the stove. So, the temperature control for the electric burner is still not working. He didn't do a good job and I'm not satisfied. I have since given up and I'm gonna buy a new stove.

As soon as my contract is up, I’m going with somebody else because I’ve been dealing with them for some time and sometimes they’re good, sometimes they’re half-assed. They could get better contractors. I’ve had some people come to my house. They look like they just came off the street. Recently, Dave and Sons Plumbing came in because we had a plumbing issue on the top floor and they snaked the top floor down. They snaked it to the bottom. And three weeks later, we had a problem in the basement, and then we had to pay for it again. And absolutely when you have a plumbing problem and you snake it out, you should snake the whole place out.

    I have a pool and the motor goes out about every two years. So, I have AHS and with them, there are no qualms and they just fix stuff. They replaced the motor and it’s done with. So, the warranty pays for itself. I've been with them for 20 years now and sometimes I'd get good contractors from them, but sometimes I wouldn't. One time, the contractor tried to pull a shenanigan. He tried to show me that I needed a whole new system, but I didn't. I grew up in the trade and I know enough to get me in trouble, so I called them on it and the tech remedied it without going through American Home Shield. Other than that, I've had AHS in two different states and here, I wait a little longer for a service because it's more populated. But the other location was less populated, so the downtime was quicker.

    When the sink needed to get fixed, I filed a claim with AHS. Moreno Plumbing called me and set the appointment up. They were very topnotch and took care of everything. When the plumber looked at the sink, he said that the seals were gone and that the faucet needed to be replaced. The people knew what to do right away. They had to get a referral to get my faucet replaced. But I didn’t hear back from Moreno in a day so I called AHS to follow up on it. They said that they would call Moreno while I waited on the phone. They checked with Moreno and Moreno had submitted the paperwork. So AHS was able to expedite the replacement because that thing was a nice little drip and I wanted to get it fixed soon. They worked on my behalf and got it taken care of. It was a really good deal.     Right after I signed up with American Home Shield, I had a problem with the air conditioner. I had to have the fire department out here because we were smelling smoke and we didn’t know if it was a fire, but they had said that it was the fan pump. So, they got up on the roof and they seen that there was melted wiring. Everything kicked in as it was supposed to. So, whereas before, my previous provider, there was always issues.     Recently someone from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out to service my air conditioner and heater. The contractor came out within two days after I did the service request. But they were supposed to call me before they came and this man just showed up at my door. I was really deterred by that. I really wanted them to call before they came. They only serviced my heater and just put a battery in my thermostat. He didn’t change it. He said they don’t service air conditioner when it’s raining. I told him to write down that he didn’t get the chance to do the air conditioner because it was raining. I’m supposed to call them within the next 60 days in order for them to complete the order. But other than that I've been with AHS for over 20 years and I’ve recommended a lot of people to them. I got a lot of friends and family turn to them.

    We're selling this house that we're in and moving to a new house. The seller is providing us credit money for a year's home warranty and yesterday, I selected American Home Shield to cover us on the new house. We have been with American Home Shield for three years. When we bought this house, they had an Old Republic warranty on it and I wasn't too impressed with them so I switched to American Home Shield. In the three years with them, we've had very few claims and only one that was unsatisfactory, which was the replacement of a water heater. The contractor that they used was coming from 80 miles away to where we were and they weren't very professional. AHS wouldn't change. I called and I asked them if they don't have anybody that's closer or a local tradesman that could do it. They said no and that it was part of the deal. The water heater got put in, it works fine and everything but it took them over three weeks to replace it.

    Here in the Austin metro area, it’s preferable if AHS could find a contractor or a tradesman locally. I don't have to have a guy from Waco that has to drive in to Cedar Park to look at the water heater and then go back to Waco to get the parts. It was terrible. I also had an outside hose bib that broke and used the guy that did the water heater on a claim. The little old plumber guy was from a town over and he came. He was old and feeble. AHS should do a better job vetting the people that they're retaining to be on their program for its people that actually can do the work.

    AHS also needs to do a better job on the website where, I, as the consumer can really define what the problem is. So that way, when they assign the repair orders, they kinda know who to send it to. To the tradespeople's credit, when they call, they always say that they don't know what the problem is and so, you have to explain it. All that AHS does is give you a drop down menu of boxes. You just check the box and there's no way to explain. I can see they need to do something to keep it brief but if you got a faucet issue, at least you ought to be able to say that it’s broken, it needs new seats and the faucet is leaking. If they've got a little more information, working with the tradespeople, they can assign these and maybe be more efficient. That way, if they've got a particular plumber whose specialty is water heaters, then he goes to the water heater people. If his specialty is sewer lines in the yard, then it goes to that plumber.

    I used McLain Plumbing the other day on a repair bill on some faucets and the guy was awesome. I put in the repair request with American Home Shield at about 8 o'clock the night before and the contractor was calling at 8 o'clock the next morning. They were ready to come that day and fix it. We already had stuff that we had to do and so, we asked them if they could come the day after. He did a great job. We had used McLain here on a non-warranty claim plumbing work. We liked them so I was happy to see that they were on the program of AHS. A lot of tradesman contractors will not go on the program, which was why I was surprised that McLain came out.

    When my wife cleaned the stove with a sprayer, the ignition switch got wet. We thought it would just dry out but the gentleman said it had to be replaced. We waited a week for the part then he came yesterday and said that there's a wire harness that needs to be replaced. He was gonna order that, which is gonna take another week. But we can use the stove. You just press it down.

    I've been with American Home Shield for a couple of years now and they should get people to have more attention to details. The people who answer the phone don’t know what they’re talking about and hang up on you. I got hung up on quite a few times about certain issues. They also told me some stories that they can’t make calls out and then told me, “Hold on, I’m gonna call the vendor.” I asked, “You can’t call me, how can you call the vendor?” And they just said, “Hold on,” then the call conveniently drops.

    I had a problem with my air conditioning unit because of one useless vendor that they have that don’t return their calls or my calls. They went out and got a mechanical permit and they got a fine for a mechanical permit liened against my property. It seems that I cannot get anybody to put in an air conditioning unit because they got fined and they don’t answer the phone. I called up and talked to AHS about that. I talked to one lady with an attitude and she said, “That’s your problem. You need to call the vendor. We got nothing to do with it.” Another person I talked to before that said they were gonna get a hold of whoever is in charge of vendors and they were gonna get back with me. That was over about 2 weeks ago and there were no calls.

    I constantly call them back about the company that they hired to do the work, and they’re saying they didn’t have anything to do with the work of the vendor and I was thrown for a loop with that one. But they should get rid of that vendor and get with more quality, better people, so that when one has a problem like this, it can get rectified, rather than tell us that we are on our own. I gotta get the fine off my property so I could get my air condition unit put in. Other than that, A Plus came out for another claim and they did what they were supposed to do. They were good. The guy was very knowledgeable and I couldn’t ask for no more than that. He was honest, easy to talk to, and easy to work with. I like that.

    I had a tankless water heater that was giving me error code, and I called the home warranty to get them send someone out. I called the initial company they called and set me up with, and he was super negative. So, I called the home warranty back, and they quickly got me established with the Advanced Plumbing & Rooter Services. They came out, figured out what they had to order, ordered the part, and then came and fixed it. They are great. They did a very good job and they were very professional and polite.     New customer called with the simple request to correct the spelling of my last name on their contract. Oh My! Entered Acct # and Zip Code as required by the robo voice. Then transferred to a marginal-at-best ESL voice who promptly asked for the same information plus several other 'verification questions.' Thence transferred yet again to another speaks--little-English voice in Manila who asked for the same information yet again. When I f-i-n-a-l-l-y managed to make myself understood, I put on a long hold while they dealt with this seemingly difficult task. Hung up in despair. God help me if I ever make a service call. Just thankful someone else paid for this agreement.

    Home water heater failed. Called American Home Shield to submit a claim and have them create a work order which they did. Reputable plumbing company was dispatched to my home to confirm the water heater had failed. Technician verified the water heater had an internal water leak and was not repairable and the entire water heater would need to be replaced.

    Technician stated that it was going to cost me out-of-pocket approximately $230 because the water heater he would be allowed to install, the plumbing and the water connections were in different locations on that one as opposed to the current one that I had so these pipes would have to be rerouted to adapt to the new one. I checked shortly after the technician left and in addition to that while he was here he confirmed that the water heater that I currently have we’re still being manufactured.

    Needless to say American home shield is causing the rerouting of the pipes problem because of not replacing it with the same model so the additional expense is being created by them not me. Shortly after he submitted his report to American home shield, they called explaining That the rerouting of the pipes would not be not be covered under my warranty of which I have the second level enhanced plan. That plan states that the water heater and all components are covered. The technician said nothing about a disposal fee of the old unit while he was here he looked at my contract and was satisfied from the language he read that the disposal would be covered under my warranty.

    After having a heated discussion with the American home shield representative that called me, she stated that in a specific section in my contract it said that I “may” be charged a disposal fee; however, nowhere in the language of the contract does it say I will be charged a removal fee. I find it very amazing that a new water heater can be installed without the old one being removed, I’d like to see that happen before my very eyes! I told her I would not be paying for the removal of the old one so that the new one could be installed because that was not stated in my contract, And that I would not be paying a disposal fee because the technician could simply leave the old one sitting in my garage and I will dispose of it myself.

    She said I would have to discuss that with the technician. I told her, "I do not have a contract with the technician. I have a contract with you." She continue to skirt around the fact that she didn’t have to state in the contract where I was responsible for a removal fee, which there was no way she could because it’s not stated in there. She also said I had the option of taking a cash out which means they would simply pay for the water heater and I would be responsible for having that one installed by a contractor of my choice. I declined that option.

    I’ve had this warranty for over 7 to 8 years and I’ve only had one other claim regarding a furnace fan and all that time. As a consumer if you are reading this long winded explanation I’ll let you decide whether or not spending $71 and change is worth all of this inconvenience and aggravation that I’ve experienced with American home shield. When my contract is up for renewal in July you can bet it’s not going to be renewed. I’ll take the $71 I pay them a month put it in my savings account and insure myself. The only thing I can say at this point; in my opinion American home shield warranty is not worth the paper it’s written on.

    I have been an AHS client for over 10 years and for the most part have been satisfied. However, when my water heater started leaking a week and a half ago was when all the problems began. They got a plumber to come out right away who determined the water heater was leaking and needed replaced. At that point all the customer service on the part of AHS went out the window. The plumber turned off the gas and water to the water heater so we had no hot water. It has been a week and a half and I am still on hold with AHS who is trying to find out where my water heater is. The issue is that AHS orders the water heater and has it delivered to the plumber to save a few dollars instead of having the plumber supply the water heater or AHS buying it directly from local supplier.

    I called a local supplier a mile from my home and they have 11 of the water heaters I need in stock. AHS keep telling me that the water heater was ordered and that it should be in right away but it never arrives. It is now Friday and the weekend is coming up so it looks like we will be without hot water for another few days at the very least. Once AHS finally gets the water heater delivered to the plumber, I will have to then schedule installation when they have the time. Ahs just got on the phone and is now telling me that they have emailed the supplier to find out where the water heater is and is supposed to call me back once they find out. AHS is great when you have a problem and it is not an emergency. If you actually have an emergency my suggestion is to call a local plumber and get it fixed it right away. You might pay a few extra dollars but you get the service done instead of waiting for AHS TO DECIDE WHAT TO DO ON THEIR OWN TIME FRAME.

    We've been with Home Shield for at least 12 years. I stopped and then I got it back. It's not what it used to be like before I stopped it. But I like to have peace of mind that if something breaks down, I can just call and I know they are going to find someone to help me with what I need. Before I would get a callback within the day. Also, a couple of the companies that they have sent were not so professional like they used to. It would take you longer to get to, like if you need them in an emergency.     I've had American Home Shield since last year, and the only problem is that it takes a long time when they order parts, instead of trying to do it faster like rushing or expedited shipping. I had almost two weeks without being able to use my washer because the parts weren’t shipped expedited. They were shipped through regular mail.     We were visiting a friend of my sisters in California and she was talking about an insurance that you could get on your appliances. I told her to tell me about it and so, she did. I came home and the first thing I did was sign myself up with American Home Shield. She gave me a very good recommendation and I've been happy. I had a hot water heater that went out and they did an excellent job on that. This is the second time I've needed them. I have a heat pump that runs my furnace and my air conditioning, and it had been misbehaving. The fan on the unit outside would stop and then, it wouldn't start back up again. I've had to go out and use a little bar that I found and give the fan a flick through the grate on top to get it up and running, which isn't a good thing because if that fan isn't running and the system is working, it can burn the whole system out. I was concerned about it because I'm not up and about to hear it and I don't want to start to do that.

    We are planning on going on a vacation the end of the month for probably four weeks and I was concerned about leaving it. I called American Home Shield and told them that I was having problems. They told me that the contractor would call me and he did. Four Seasons was excellent. The technician knew what he was doing and the fan that he put in is running far quieter than the original fan ever did.

    The young man that came here for the dishwasher was great. He looked at it and knew what was wrong, and then he ordered the parts.     The response time has been very quick and the cost is reasonable. My washer went and they tried to repair it, multiple visits and replaced it, and it covered the whole cost. It was full coverage and I found that as the most impressive thing for me. Convenience is key. Because with all these other home warranty companies, their biggest thing is they only cover possibly half or certain services. The only thing that I wish was a little bit different is the inability to combine multiple needs into one setting. If I need my refrigerator fixed and also my AC unit, I have to do two separate work orders, so that's two separate deductibles.

    We had a heating issue. My house was new construction, so when we turned the unit on, it immediately started sucking dirt through the system. But on top of that, it wasn’t installed very well so we couldn’t get the air filter in there properly, which was then allowing dust to build up throughout the system. So the technician that AHS sent came out, and there were a couple of pieces he had to take off and clean up really well. And then he also did a little work on the place where you put the air filter in, and now the air filter slides in properly. So, I was satisfied with the work he did. AHS did really well with customer service. The people that I got on the phone were people I could understand. That’s a big deal. They were also quick in setting an appointment. I called and I got an appointment that day. I couldn’t ask for anything better than that.

    AHS sent Budget Rooter to our home to replace a garbage disposal and we had very good experience. The guy knew what he was doing and was done within 30 minutes. We need to follow up though on the refrigerator. We’ve called for people to come and work on it about four times already. They can’t fix the icemaker and find the part. AHS said they would give us $3,000. And we’ve been looking for a refrigerator to help save AHS money and us because we have a built-in, and we decided we’re not gonna go with the built-in. We’ve been a customer of AHS for over 20 something years and would recommend it. My sister also has it on their home.

    When you try to call in, you wait on hold for a long time to get someone from AHS. But going through the website is a lot easier and a lot better. You just describe your problem and what the appliance is. They then tell you who's gonna repair it and they take their copay at that time. Then you get a call within 24 hours from the repairperson and work together to set up a time for them to come over.

    I liked the guy who came for my water heater. He has always taken really good care of us. He's always been prompt. And he has always called me to let me know what was going on and what time we were gonna meet. I've had a really good experience with James and have recommended him to friends who don't have a home warranty. I love American Home Shield and have recommended them to other people. They have been a godsend to me. We've had them for several years and they have not balked on one single thing that we've called in to have repairs on or replaced.

    American Home Shield picked a person to handle my claim and said that he was gonna come out. The young man who came out was excellent and very polite. I had water coming out of the washer onto the floor and he found what the problem was. But it wasn't even something that had to be repaired. It was just pushing the hose back down in the pipe and securing it so wouldn't slip out again. I shouldn't have even needed an insurance person but I didn't know. And instead of ripping me off, he just fixed it.

    I've been with AHS for about 11 years and when I had a huge plumbing problem a while back, they sent less than good plumbers and it was the fourth plumber before I ever really got the problem fixed. They do not choose good companies on the whole and they try to go as cheap as they can. Then several years ago, the guy they sent didn't fix the problem. He came back about two times and after that, he never even answered the calls anymore. I had to call someone on my own. I then wrote AHS a letter explaining it all and they reimbursed me.

    We had a leak. I went to the website of AHS to submit a claim and paid the $100 and just waited for the technicians to fix it. We thought they did a good job, it looked like it. And then the very next day, it started leaking. We didn't know about it though. And three days later after water started gushing out of the cabinet, we had to recall and have that redone. And according to the guy that fixed it, he said they did it all wrong. But now, it's perfect. The experience with AHS has always been pretty good. With this little hiccup, that would be the only thing that was negative.

    We had a plumbing issue and AHS sent out Water & Drain Works. Everything was perfect from calling and getting the information from American Home Shield as well as in getting with the plumber. And the plumber came very quickly, even almost the next day. She came as advertised or when she said she would be there. She was also very efficient and professional. She told us exactly what the issue was and she got everything done perfectly. She knew exactly what she was doing and everything works great now. The whole Drain Works family is wonderful as well. We’ve had them for a few years now and they always lived up to a very high standard and very good reputation in town. We’ll definitely use them again.

    Other than that, I was wondering how I could manage to get a specific person that I've had before to come out. When I tried to call AHS or go online, their system limits me to the people that I can choose. For example, there’s one person that I used in the past for garage doors that was excellent, but when I looked again, that person wasn’t there anymore.     While I had a good experience with American Home Shield, it was a little bit difficult to contact their office directly. But once I was able to talk to a rep and explain what's going on, then everything went smoothly. I submit the order and whoever the service needed then they would contact. But making schedule is not easy and takes a long time. But I understand that everybody is busy. Still, there is slight miscommunication because when the person comes and sees the issues, or the time comes to fix it, the guys do not know what exactly is the program.

    For example, I said, "Refrigerator is leaking, then temperature is not right, it goes freeze everything." Then he says, "Okay, I will write a note." But there was some miscommunication. The range was not fixable so I got a new range. Then the time came for him to fix washing machine and I asked, "How about the refrigerator?" He said, "Oh, AHS did not approve to do anything." I asked why but he did not know so I contacted AHS. But it didn't all go through well because of the answering machine. It took about 3 days to reach them and then I explained the situation. So after that, technician looked at it more closely and found some issues in my refrigerator. It has already gone and melted some hole that's why there was freezing. Finally, AHS approved and granted to purchase a new fridge.

    I like to have a clear communication. Once the technician comes, I'd like to find a report that time and not waiting a long time then everything is case closed. I didn't receive any case closed letter from AHS. So on real-time, I would like know what's missing. Like in my refrigerator problem, I didn't know until the second time the technician came to fix the washing machine and I found out that the refrigerator was not included. They told me that it's case closed and everything's done, but it's not done. Other than that, I will keep the insurance.

    I've been with American Home Shield at the very least 10 years and I liked the service better in the past than in more recent times. There's the fact that I could call someone and typically have them come out on the day that they said they were gonna come out. I could also get my appliances fixed as quickly as possible. In the most recent years, it seems that it takes a much longer time to get someone to come out than it used to. I typically call in when I have a claim. I'm used to that although I know that I can go online and do it there. I’m sure that if I did it online, it would have been just as easy.

    The contractors have been fine. When In Control Plumbing came out, they said that what needed to be done. The tech said he would have it by so and so. He gave me his my phone number if I needed to contact him. I was able to contact him in a few days. He said he was gonna pick something up that day and have it installed that day as well. It was great.

    Our heating system was broken. I submitted a claim to AHS and I received an appointment the next day. Starlight came out and they were wonderful. American Home Shield is not good. This time, I didn’t have any problems. But I did have some with my dishwasher experience. We had AHS for years and I was really happy. But it seems that lately, they are struggling. American Home Shield has customer service in India. And the time when I tried to contact them, it was a nightmare because all their replies were “I’m sorry,” and “Thank you.” And calling a manager was an ordeal just to hear the same “I’m sorry,” and “Thank you.” So, I was worried. Everything that used to be very easy, now it’s difficult.

    I was not too pleased with the first guy who came out for the claim I submitted to AHS. He came out three or four times and never got my issue fixed. He ended up putting an icemaker which I didn't need. I had to call again which AHS charged me another $100 for. The guy I talked to on the phone for AHS was very rude. He told me that he couldn't help me as the repair should have been done the first time. I told him it wasn't my fault that it wasn't done and that I had to call seven times. I gave up after that and hung up on him.

    I called again two or three days later and got a lady who was very nice. She sent a guy out. AHS charged my $100 the day I called when the first time, they waited a month or two. Still, the second guy they sent from Sears was very good and he took 15 minutes to fix my problem. I was very pleased with him. I've been with AHS for a couple of years now. They ought to get rid of that first contractor who was an independent dealer.

    I usually submit my claims online with AHS. Their website could be a little bit better to maneuver and the basic logistics of the site should be improved. When putting in the actual problem, sometimes, it’s generalized. They have another tab there but sometimes, that’s not always clear on what problem you should click. That’s not always definite, especially with the plumbing. And when calling American Home Shield directly, it feels like I’m calling China. The ladies that answer the phone don’t know what I’m talking about and I never have any verbal resolve when I call them. It’s like they don’t speak English and they have no problem-solving skills. I just do everything online as best I can because if there’s any kind of issue, calling them is not the answer because they’re just gonna quote some policy to try to get me off the phone.

    One time, there was a leaking pipe under the sink and AHS sent out Service Mechanical of Tidewater to fix it. They were professional, skilled, and we had no problems with them. But we had another contractor out yesterday, Price Right Plumbing, and I do not want to do business with them again. The problem was at a rental property that I have, and the tenant called and told me that the toilet was not flushing. It appeared to be clogged. So, I put in the service request and they scheduled it for the next day. Then the service technician came out and apparently, the clog had resolved itself. But while he was there, there was also pipe that was leaking under the kitchen sink. He looked at it, told the tenant that he couldn’t do anything about it, and just walked out the door and left. The tenant was very upset because she didn’t understand what was going on and she did not know that this was through a home warranty.

    So, I called Price Right Plumbing and the young lady told me that they did not have a service request for the pipe, which I understand. But we have had contractors before and if something came up while they were there that wasn't on the initial request, either their office would call American Home Shield or I could go back online and put in another service request for that company. But Price Right Plumbing's tech didn’t call me as the owner of the property and I was displeased because the $100 service charge was for nothing.

    So, I told the young lady at Price Right Plumbing that I would expect some type of business courtesy, as the owner, that they all would call me. I could have done what I had to do for logistics’ sake. The tech was there and the other problem just required a tightening of the pipe. It wasn’t anything that you needed a lot of parts for and even if it did, he just walked out and did not address it. But the young lady in the office verified that he did the right thing and that that was what he was supposed to do. So, there’s no professionalism. She also just told me that I had to call American Home Shield like I’m stupid. Price Right Plumbing do a disservice to American Home Shield and they just don’t care.

    Beside that, overall, I’m satisfied with AHS. I am not happy with that incident yesterday but over the past year with multiple properties, we’ve had other contractors come out and we’ve had some very good ones that I would hire independent of American Home Shield because they were professional and stood by their work.

    I switched to AHS from a different insurance company that wouldn’t replace a bunch of things. Every time I tried to call something in, the other company tried everything they could to not cover the item. Also, AHS has a better price and everything has been faster. Even when parts have to be ordered, it has been way better being with them. They resolved a water pressure issue on the well. And when I had some issues with a refrigerator, everything went smoothly and in a timely manner.     The heater was malfunctioning and Metropolitan Heating and Air Conditioning came out to fix it. It worked fine for about a week, and then something mechanical started. It sounded like an airplane taking off and it was something banging on the casing of the heater. But it took them no more than 20 minutes to replace the part and they fixed it. They did fine, just too bad they had to come back out again.

    We've been with American Home Shield for two years now since we've been here. My daughter had it in the past. She was the one that recommended it. We had a claim regarding our heater that when we would turn it on, it wouldn’t do anything. Then we turn it off and we turn it back on, and then it would kick on and it would just make the noise like it was doing something but it wasn’t doing anything. That would go on four times. And finally, it would kick in most of time, but it took several attempts to do it. And it was because the relay between the unit and box itself was bad, so they had to replace it.     Our master bathroom faucets weren't working right. One was stuck in one position and not getting hot or cold and the other one wouldn't get past warm. I submitted the claims online and it worked really well. We had Air Pro Master come out and replace something on the side of the faucets. American Home Shield's basic service is fantastic. They're pretty darn good. The contractors have been excellent. They usually get ahold of us on the same day that we put a work order in. They're very good about calling us before they arrive, giving us a half-hour window or so and very polite when they come out. They're totally understandable and they do the work really well and get it done pretty much on the first visit.

    We've used AHS three times since we've had the policy. I had an issue a year or two ago that took a while to get resolved. They kept saying that someone should be calling me back and no one ever called me back. So, I had to keep calling and it got a little frustrating. That level of communication could improve. If there would be an issue that would need to go the next level, I would like to be able to get ahold of somebody and not just say somebody would call you back and I'd have to call and keep going back and forth. But the other couple of times we've had to use them, it has been super. The girl we talked to solved the issue and it was done within a week.

    I had an issue with my oven. I went online and submitted a claim with AHS. At first, I was a little confused on how to set up the claim for the services on their website and I had to go through two different things before I could actually get to the part where I had to do the filling out of the information. They should have a more easier way to go into making the claim. Other than that, I was notified about the people who were gonna come out and they came quicker than I thought. They were also very professional and I really like them. I asked them if they do any other service and they said they do everything. I hope AHS sends out their company again because I don't like dealing with a lot of different people coming in to my home. So, if AHS doesn't send them next time, I’ll recommend that they just send the same company to me.

    AHS has been great. We've been with them for a year and a half now and every time we put a claim in, it cost us 100 bucks. But we recently had a horrible experience with one of their contractors, Hopwood Electric, and it's the worst company I've ever dealt with in my life. Our heater goes out every time it goes cold and when we filed a service request with AHS, that was the company that they assigned to us. We talked seven times and they'd put some duct tape on something, then they’d come back and they’d screw it up again.

    They replaced a part and when they came back the next time, they said they didn't put the right part in and had to replace it. Then the next time they came out, they said they didn’t hook up a wire correctly. After that, they came back and said that the breaker they put in wasn’t big enough to hold the two compressors we have on there. And when they came out again, they said something else was wrong. Then, they came out two days ago and fixed something. But when it got cold last night, the heat went off again and it was 35 degrees in the house. All in all, we won’t be renewing with AHS and we’ll find somebody else.

AHS took care of me and assigned another contractor who came within an hour and had the unit working. He said the unit still has a lot of life on it. And the only thing was wear and tear -- the outside of the gas valve was damaged. AHS has always been reliable and very informed. They have somebody assigned to me within minutes, so I know who’s coming to fix whatever problem. I've been using AHS off and on through the last 15 years. I've used them before on different issues and it’s always been well done.

    My claim about a plumbing issue is still open. The young man from NW Sundance Services who came to my door described what he was there for, and asked permission to come in the house and take a look at the plumbing that was an issue. I brought him in and he went right to work, looked at the plumbing issue, and immediately diagnosed it for a torn hose that runs from a water valve up through the faucet. He tried two different ways. He had one hose that he thought might work, which it didn’t. And then he said, “What I can do is to let this water that is leaking down into one place where you can put a basin to catch the water, but you’re gonna have to dump it as it fills up. I’ve written this up, I’ve ordered the hose. I don’t know how long it will take, but as soon as we get the replacement hose in, we’ll come out and put it in for you, and close out the issue.” So, that’s where I stand.

    All the work that I’ve done with American Home Shield over the years has been as good as anyone of them that has come out and has done the work for us. The young man was efficient, as professional as could be, pleasant and showed me everything that he could show me so that I understood what was going on. In that case and in previous cases with other people who’ve been referred to me by American Home Shield, they gave the best. My daughter and son-in-law have American Home Shield. I recommended to my son down in Northern California that he see what he can do to get AHS too for his new house. I recommended highly that they talk to American Home Shield.

    My parents told me that American Home Shield is worth having. So I got it some time last year. I thought I would use it if I needed it and true enough, I ended up needing it for my garage because I was kinda trapped in the house. The commercials are really funny but you really do feel like, “Oh god, I have to get a new garage,” or “Oh no, something happened.” So it feels good to kinda have a sense of security there, to know that it’s like a phone call and somebody will come out and look at it for you. The claims process was super easy too. I did it from my cell phone. I just went in and told them that I needed to service my garage. I paid the deductible and it was good to go.

    I did the claim back in December but I wasn’t able to coordinate with Magic City Doors and to get a time. I was able to get back in contact with them afterwards and I ended up having to get the claim resent. When I called back again to Home Shield, they were on it very quickly. That same day, I was able to get appointment scheduled for the next day. Magic City Doors came out and did a great job of looking at it. They ended up replacing the actual garage door motor. The guy that I had, Jamie, was really nice and very professional. It was a really good experience so overall, I’m super happy.

    There was a problem with my cold water faucet in the bathroom. I had issues with it before and had used a different plumbing company, not realizing it was covered by American Home Shield. It could never work quite right and then it got to where I couldn’t turn the cold water on at all. So I contacted American Home Shield. It happened on a weekend and a guy from Mclean came out on Monday. They were on time, did an excellent job and was very professional. I will use them instead of the company I had been using.

    The plumber identified the problem really quickly. The handle was bent and it didn’t engage. He tightened it on both ends, which the prior plumber evidently didn’t do. He explained to me what he was doing. He also explained to me that I might have problems with it in the future because this was a universal tap faucet and he explained what I needed to do to fix it long term if it reoccured. But I think this is probably not gonna reoccur. He did a good job and I was pleased with the service.

    There were a couple of problems with the dishwasher. The soap dispensing part was not functioning and then the upper tray was getting stuck. American Home Shield normally requires to wait for a day or two for things to happen, and I call them immediately after I had an issue, then I found out that Appliance Wizard was the company and they set me up within pretty much the next working day. I was not aware of it, so they came the day after that. Then three days later, they got the part. It couldn't have been easier and faster than that, especially when they didn't have the part.     We got two AC units on our house. Our house is pretty long, so one side got our heat and air unit, and the other side got a heat and air unit. The side on the garage, the air conditioner was working but the heat would never work. So, we filed a claim to AHS. The contractors that came were very professional. The guy knew exactly what he was doing. He worked on it before. He had a little bit of trouble and got on the phone with some of his coworkers or his supervisor, and they walked through together. I stayed back and let him do his job. But I came out and checked on him, and he was doing fine, and the quality of work was excellent. I would’ve done the same exact thing.     I get my stuff fixed through American Home Shield and I have them for 15 years now. I've researched other companies, too and I get a better job done with AHS than the other ones. But I dislike the timespan in getting everything fixed. I'd contact them and they'd contact the person that would come out. Then they'd contact me and I'd find out when they could come and when they couldn't. And occasionally, they'd say that they gotta order parts and it’d be a few days. Usually, the process takes a little longer than I expect, but it’s that way with all of them. Overall, the contractors they sent out were pretty good and most of them seemed nice.

    Other than that, I just had a water heater replaced and they informed me that if it has to be replaced, AHS was supposed to replace it. But they didn’t replace it and it cost me $600. They said it was because of some kind of code which was upgraded through the years on my water heater. Also, it was supposed to have a water pan and it didn’t have one, so I bought one. They should improve the wording a little better on the contract where it's clear when something will be replaced or not, or have an asterisk to it where it says "Subject to this."

    Metropolitan came out for the heater that kept on going out. They were excellent people and did a super job. They came out twice. The first time was about 2 months ago. They cleaned up and did a whole something in it. But it continued doing it so I called them back. They came back and didn’t charge me. They replaced something and it worked.

    About 6 months ago, I had a pool problem with my pump, and that took a long time for the contractor to come out. Then the guy that came out gave me the runaround. Finally, I was able to figure it out myself, and that was out of the way. But I’ve had other stuff with American Home Shield, and I’ve had no problems. The contractor usually comes within a reasonable time. Within a week, you get somebody out and they do whatever they have to do. I would like it the same day or the next one, but they can’t.

    The policy is not cheap. But several years ago, I had a problem with the oven at the house, and they couldn’t get the part. The oven was white, and they could get a part that was black. We said, “No. It’s gotta be white, period.” They changed and gave me a whole new oven. That’s reasonable. Either find the part or solve it. And they solved it by giving me a whole new oven.

    American Home Shield could get more people so that they can come out faster. You have to be a little bit smart, too. They’ll give you a service company, and if you don’t call up the service company and ask them, all of a sudden, you may realize that the service company is two, three hours away, and they don’t wanna drive two, three hours. So, you have to call Home Shield to ask where is the service company located. I’ve gotten one that was literally three hours away and the guy didn’t even call me to say, “No, I’m not gonna go out.” American Home Shield has gotta figure out a system in which their service guy has gotta be within a reasonable distance from wherever the claim is. Other than that, I don’t have major problems with them.

    So basically you are paying $65-75 a month and then $100 call out fee to have your repair company come to your home. Service is great scheduling and taking your $100 up front. Anything on top of that they will not cover. We had a supposed gas leak at our house, and to diagnose the Plumbing company had to cut the line outside to test the pressure. Now AHS is saying that they won't cover that. We are also having to come "up to code" on a lot of items that we were not expecting to, all to fix a valve that came loose and "may" have been causing the gas smell. We also have a leak near our hot water heater and they are not paying to "remove" the hot water heater to look at the leak. We are now looking at $1000 in repairs out of pocket. Not happy at all. Would have been better off saving the money I pay in premiums to save away towards repairs such as this that I am now paying out of pocket anyways.

    Horrible experience. The technician visited my house on 1/24/20 to inspect / fix my dryer. He wasn't experienced enough and could not identify the issue. What was strange was he suggested we "google" and find a contractor who could fix. It has now been 12+ days since he visited and until today (2/6/20) the contractor has not submitted the service report. At least that is what is being claimed by American Home Shield (AHS). I have been calling them every day over the last 8 days (every day) and every time they say they have escalated to the Vendor Relationship Management Team who are trying to resolve the problem.

    Since the last 3 days I have been asking them for authorization to engage a contractor (on my own) so that the dryer can be fixed. I have clothes all over my house which are wet and the place is a mess. AHS will not authorize and myself to go ahead and engage a sub-contractor and keeps on stalling.... This is RIDICULOUS and I'm really sorry that I went with them.

    I will never support this company again. I had the worse experience of my life with them. I filed a claim for my high tech washer to be repaired but they didn’t have a contractor qualified to repair it. I found out that with American Home Shield is all about the money not about satisfying the customer. They stole $81.19 from me but if it took that for me to get rid of them so be it. They sent me through eight different contractors to repair my washer (most of which were rated with a 1 star) but none was able to repair. So they told me they would set me up with a authorized contractor for my washer. I waited a few several days for this, only to find out they were sending me back to one of the eight I had previously.

    Did they really thinking wouldn’t remember. I had requested my $75 back but they would never give it back to me. I called my credit card company to dispute the charges but they blocked it saying the fee was for providing service. What service did they provide. They didn’t fix nor diagnose the problem with my washer. They wouldn’t give me my money back. But the beauty of this story is I was able to get rid of them before they sent an incompetent contractor to destroy my washer. Please be aware. This company use lots of 1 star contractors to do your repairs.

    We had a total of three different people who came out for the refrigerator but they were all very nice, professional and courteous. It was a Samsung refrigerator and when the first guy came out, he diagnosed it as the board. The digital screen was all screwed up. He couldn't read the numbers so, he had to order a part. A week later, another guy came out. He replaced the board and the sensors, and a day later, it did not solve the problem. So, that gentleman came back out a couple of days later. We cleaned up the back of the refrigerator because it had some fuzzies in it and I wanted to see how that would work. That did not solve it.

    The refrigerator wasn't freezing. It was getting down to 35 degrees and our refrigerator was hovering around 50 degrees. It just was not working. So, that guy did the last thing, which was to check the Freon, the compressor and all that, He found that there was a leak in it of some sort so they prepared to order parts. Then, AHS called and said that they would give us $850 instead of the repair. It's still not technically fixed. He put some Freon and it's already starting to drop a little bit temperature and it's going back up a little bit. We're going to try and use it for a couple more weeks before we get a new refrigerator. So, if American Home Shield buys it or takes it away, we would try and sell it for $120 with the disclosure of where the thing stands currently. The new buyer can determine what they wanna do.

    The last lady I talked to at AHS said that they estimated the cost of the repair at $850 overall. They would pay me that if I don't wanna get it repaired. I asked for the remedy if they come back out and tried to fix it, and again, it doesn't work. She said that AHS would warrant the work for 60 days, but they would buy the refrigerator. She didn't explain what the value of the refrigerator would be to me but at this point, we're satisfied with the professionalism of the people. They've been very courteous.

    A friend of mine has AHS and has had luck with them. And we’ve had them for about a year and a half now. We’re using them in two locations. We have a place outside of Astoria, Oregon and we have a place here in Portland. We used them a couple of months ago for a furnace problem. They did a good job taking care of that and had somebody come out.

    Then about two weeks ago, I submitted a claim for a drippy faucet piping underneath the bathroom sink. I talked to somebody and things moved along really quickly. The first company couldn’t come out for four days. We said that that was not gonna work. My husband had gotten under the sink to tighten up the pipe, but that opened up the water so bad that we couldn’t seem to shut the water off underneath the sink. We shut it off outside so we had no water to the house. We called AHS again and the lady I talked to got somebody else out the next day. The contractor came, did the hose, replaced something underneath the sink, and turned the water back on. Then, about two days later, the drip started again. We had a pan underneath it to collect the water for a day, but it wasn’t dripping a lot. We called and the same guy came out. He tightened up something to secure it better and everything is fine now.

    I just bought the house in August and it was part of the agreement with buying it that the owner purchased the warranty for a year. I've had to call Home Shield three times. One was the plumbing issue, another was the AC, and I needed a new hot water heater. It broke and flooded. Every time I called, they handled everything really quick. They would have somebody out there within a day. They had the contractors out there and fixed the issue in no time. When the AC wasn't blowing any air, Comfort First came out and the tech fixed it within 45 minutes. He knew the problem right away as soon as he got there.     We bought the house brand new and everything in it was covered for a year. We've lived in the house since then and have had American Home Shield over all the 14 years now. And we've not had an instance where they refuse to do anything. I've had very few instances with them and it's been with the air conditioning and furnace rather than everything else because we live in Florida and the air conditioner runs a lot. We have two different thermostats in the house, one downstairs and one upstairs. Rick from Airpro Service Company and who has been here many times, found what the problem was in the latest claim and he repaired it then left.

    We probably made a mistake on our water heater going to American Home Shield because we paid so much more for the water heater and had things that we were told we were required to do that nobody else in the 900 homes of where we live did that. But it was what happened and I learned my lesson with that, which is to ask a little bit more questions before I assume to take the word of whoever came out.

    My husband was with General Electric and we had all GE appliances before when we moved in the house. We also had GE in the house when we moved here. Within the first couple of years, the microwave had a problem and I assumed that they would wanna replace it. Instead, they spent more getting it repaired than it would have been to put a new one in. But we paid $75 and that's what it was. Also, my washing machine and dryer were 10 years old when we moved in to the house and they lasted another 5 to 8 years. But because I wanted a better washing machine that was gonna come in and the dryer was fine, I did a buyout for the ones that they were gonna replace them with. We took whatever it was on the washing machine and we bought the washer and dryer and installed those.

    The technician from J-Star Services was great. We’re in the midst of selling the house and he was called out to confirm that we did not need a new water heater nor have the water heater lines repaired. There was nothing wrong with them.     There was a time when the pump for my pool cleaner went out and had to be replaced. I submitted a claim to AHS with whom I've had for 20 years now. With them, I just go online and tell them what's wrong. AHS's webpage works well. Usually, within an hour or two, I get an email. I then get contacted by a contractor who is gonna do that work and we arrange for them to come. This time, they sent Reflection Pools. While their contractors are sometimes busy and the contractor from Reflection Pools said they would be coming Monday when I called them Thursday, they said that if they could get to my place on the Friday before that Monday, they would. They got to my place on Friday and were able to fix it. The claim worked out well.

    So far, AHS' contractors have all been very qualified people and they do the work. However, I had some work done on my heater previously and I had to pay well over $1,000. When I bought my insurance, I thought I was getting the total work. The insurance company is taking the risk that nothing is gonna break and I'm taking the risk that things might break. If things do break and have to be repaired, the insurance company would repair it based on the premiums. While AHS covered part of my heater repair, it was still pretty expensive.

    The appliance went out and I called in to file a claim. I got ahold and called the contractor and told them what time I wanted them to be there. CA Wilson Company was sent and the first day they came to fix it, they didn't have the parts in their car. It took two more days for them to come back. That was the only issue. But they did a great job.

And the guy from Winter Haven came out to work on my ceiling fan and light in my living room. He was great. He got my light to work but he had to order a part so that my ceiling fan would work. He would be getting in contact with me about that so I'm waiting to hear back on that.

    I had an outlet that was not working, so I called and spoke with a live person in submitting the claim. I had some issues with the first company that was sent out, though. The guy came out in a regular car, with no uniform. There were also no clipboard and no paper. I told him the oven was not working and he used a tester in it. He then said that it was not working, that there is nothing he could do, and that I needed a electrician. I was like, "Okay, I paid you $75 for that?" I was not happy with how all that went about. The claims contractor helped, returned my calls, and corrected the issue. She said she was going to fix the issue, and then she called Stanford Electric, which was awesome. I couldn't use my oven, and the tech stayed until it was fixed. I have used American Home Shield twice this year already and I've been satisfied.

    We were experiencing no electricity in the bedrooms and there was a bathroom fan that needed to be replaced. I went to the AHS website to file a claim. It was pretty good and it said to expect a contractor out in 24 hours or something business days. But it was a holiday and a weekend, so it took a couple of days before I was able to get ahold of them. The dispatcher was really good at trying to get the appointment set up. Everything has been great and the whole experience is a lot better. We were with another warranty company and they were getting worse and worse. So, I switched over to AHS and the experience had been totally different. They were very attentive and they kept in touch to let me know what was going on. I was really satisfied. I’ve been really happy with AHS and they're even better than they used to be. Having them is the best way to go.

    I've been American Home Shield's customer for nine years now, and I wouldn’t have continued with them for nine years if I wasn’t happy with the responsiveness and the technicians that they engage to provide service. They used IGD for me on a plumbing issue I had earlier in the year and they did such great work that I asked AHS if I can have IGD come out again for a separate issue.     There was an issue with the refrigerator and my claim experience was good. It was processed on time. The tech from AH Appliances came, took the details, and then ordered the part. It came on time as he promised, and then he came and installed it. Everything went well. So far, it is working. If there is a problem, there is warranty.     Filing my claim for the washing machine was an easy process. The washing machine wasn't working and the contractor came three times, but couldn’t repair it. AHS should make sure the repair guys understand what they’re doing. We were without a washing machine for four weeks because they’ve been running around. Then when AHS sent another company out, that company said that the first guy shouldn’t have even tried to repair it. We were then given an allowance to get a new machine.

    The hardest part of AHS's claims process is getting the window. The contractors give you a four-hour window and you kinda twiddle your thumbs and wait around for them to show up. They should narrow down the window a bit to a couple of hours or they should at least let you know how many stops are on the route so you can not waste all day waiting around. Also, AHS should make sure their vendors give a heads up a half-hour before or on the morning of the appointment. But AHS has been very responsive as far as scheduling the claims within the next day or two and the vendors have been able to complete the work, which is nice.

    We have a Viking gas range top on the island and it has a downdraft vent hood. It's motorized and comes up behind the cooktop. There was a remote control that controls that mounted on the counter on the island next to the cooktop. That remote control was damaged and inoperable. The vent hood wouldn't extend or retract. Major Home Appliance had to come out twice. They came out the first time to check the issue out and get the model numbers and serial numbers. They ordered a replacement remote control unit, which came in about a week later. They installed it right away and it works. AHS has It's definitely worked out well for us.

    I called American Home Shield and they were really good. I do my claims online and I like the website, but sometimes, I like it better to talk person-to-person. We had two issues and I wanted to know if they are gonna charge me twice for it. My dishwasher was not working, and the hose that’s connected to it was leaking. But there’s no one to talk to when I call them. It’s a recording. So it’s pretty hard when you need to talk to someone.

    Their contractors have been really nice and helpful. The last guy that came out was for my refrigerator that froze up. They came out the next day right away. They were really good. The guy knew exactly what it was. He had it fixed in less than 10 minutes, and it was running. I've told people about American Home Shield and that when I first used them, they kept coming out because they couldn’t figure out the stove and they tried new parts. So they'll keep coming out till they get the issue fixed. They're excellent. You pay monthly even though nothing’s wrong, but if they can’t fix it and they have to go and buy, that money goes towards them getting you a new appliance. You could also pick different plans with them. We got the expensive one because mom has a big house. It’s worth it. Before, we had to go on the Yellow Pages and call for someone. Or we could call Kenmore but they cost a lot more.

    We would smell gas on the furnace so I called American Home Shield. I usually speak through the person and the reps were okay. They told me to expect the contractor out in 24 or 48 hours. Steinmetz HVAC was awesome. Since they have been out, we haven’t smelled the gas. I also have a claim in for my dryer. The contractor called and they came out, and then they said they ordered parts. But, I have not heard anything, So, it is just sitting there. It has been three weeks ago, and I need my dryer fixed. American Home Shield can be hit or miss depending on who you get. I would not recommend the company for the dryer to anybody. And I called and filed two complaints with you guys and you told me you wouldn’t send a new company out. The receptionist was so rude. She hang up on me three times and told me I could not talk to a manager.

    When I called American Shield to let them know that my air conditioner was only blowing cool air and that it wasn’t getting cold, the rep seemed to be more knowledgeable than I was about the refrigerant. I looked it up online to find out competitive pricing and she told me that they no longer used R-22, because it affects the ozone. They use something else in place of it. Then I was told that the contractor would get here between 12:00 and 4:00 and that he would call me. The contractor called me himself. He told me that he was running a little late and that he would call me as soon as he left where he was at. He also gave me an estimate on when he would arrive.

    At first, a man came to check the air conditioner out and see what was wrong with the unit. Then, a gentleman came out to fix the unit. I picked their brains and both of them were very pleasant and knowledgeable. The generator was broken and it was replaced. The refrigerant also had to be put in. However, I don’t understand why I don’t have any paperwork as to what type of generator was put in, the date that it was put in, the price breakdown and the warranty on the part that was put in.

    The stove wouldn’t come on at the right temperature. It was very high. I had a guy from Sears look at it, and he said that I was holding this button too long. I turned it to the window that shows what the degree is from Fahrenheit to Centigrade. Then he held it and it came back on to Fahrenheit. He said not to hold that button too long. Everything went really well. He was very good, polite and efficient. He did a lot of cooking too so he knew what stoves would do.

    I’m almost 76, so I need all the help I can get. I heard from friends what a good deal American Home Shield was and I wouldn't have to worry about trying to find a serviceman to service appliances and things like that.     There were issues with the toilet plumbing. I filed a claim through the website, which was really user-friendly. I love the website.     Sometime in December, my heating didn't work. I called American Home Shield and J-Tech Mechanical came out. They said the whole fault was because of the Nest that I have. They changed the thermostat and it was okay for some days. However, sometimes the heating wouldn't work all of a sudden and I was confused why. After looking at it for 17 days, I called them again. When the technician came back, he checked it and it worked perfectly fine. That was surprising to us too. We explained that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's on and off. Even when it's cold, we increase the temperature and it doesn't trigger on. The tech thought the sensor may be a problem, so he cleaned the sensor, put it back and said it should be fine.

    After that, he went and that evening, it stopped working. I took one to two-minute videos whenever it's not working for our information. I called after four or five days of checking and the guys came again and checked everything. They thought the control panel was loose, so they changed it. And from then, we didn't have an issue. Their diagnosis may not be perfect the first and second time they came, but they did a good job. The response and everything was quick and awesome. Whenever they came, they did a very good job.

    American Home Shield's claims process was perfect. When I had called them, I had to request them to make the repair as soon as possible, so the lady took extra care. It was a Saturday and they still got someone there, so I was impressed with the way they responded. It was not always the same experience with other companies. Not many times have I asked them to come, but whenever I had an issue, 99% of the time, the experience was perfect. AHS is excellent. I will stay with them.

    I put in the request for service at 4:30 in the morning and I got a call back around 8:30 saying that American Home Shield had someone in the area and if I was available at noon. It was probably the only time I would ever have a problem resolved in less than eight hours. Normally, when I've used American Home Shield, it takes a day or two or sometimes you need to order a part. This is what you see in advertisements and they say this is not your typical service but it's phenomenal. I did the claim online and I’m not the most computer savvy person but I was able to figure it out so it's gotta be fairly simple. I wish others were as simple to navigate as theirs.

    The contractor was great and he dealt with my dogs that are a little hyperactive when visitors come over. He had the repair part without even knowing what was actually needed for my unit. When I said it was completely resolved, even my wife was shocked. When she came home, everything was fixed. Everything has been perfect since he came out and I've never had a problem. In the several years I've used American Home Shield both at this house and my previous house, I've only had one issue where they had to come out for repeat visit. I don't know if I'm gonna be in this house the rest of my life or not but I do not see me ever being in a house where I don't have American Home Shield.

    There was a time when my water bill had spiked and I was told that the problem was most likely something in my house and that I had to find a plumber. I decided to use my Home Shield coverage to save money and their contractor, Prime Plumbing Services was able to identify that I have a toilet with a leak.     I go online and fill out their form to file claims and if I have any questions, I call them. I’m very comfortable with their website. But they need to give a shorter time span on when to expect the contractors and they need to fine-tune their times. Sometimes, you're told within 48 hours and it may be 96 hours. Also, they need to inform who is coming, not just that someone will be calling. The contractors have been fantastic and friendly. They go above and beyond getting things done and being honest and upfront. Working with American Home Shield is very easy. They have always come through and they have always been there. As a woman, you sometimes wonder who’s in your home and I have always felt safe with who they send out, which to me is very important.

    When we first called in about our washing machine, it was making this noise that we knew something was wrong. The technician came out and said that the process was too long and there were too many different parts to swap out to figure it out. It seems to be working okay, but the noise was really loud. It got progressively worse, so the thing just completely quit. When the guy from Calvary Appliance Repair came out to check it, he tried to turn the drum and he knew immediately what was wrong and what had been going wrong. If he came out in the first place, we would've had resolution months ago. That was our biggest beef. But with this recent technician, we have no beef at all. He was perfect. That call went great.

    American Home Shield's customer service were courteous and professional. I would have preferred that they sent another technician out after that first technician left for a second opinion. But in order for that to happen, the way the process works is we would have to put in another service call. That was what we were told. If you're not satisfied with the resolution and you call back and tell them that you're not satisfied with it, it would be nice for them to send out another technician from another company for a second opinion without it being another service call. To be fair, it was probably one of those situations that doesn't come up a lot, and it was a judgement call. But I really wasn't pleased with the guy's judgement call. American Home Shield could've done one of those, "The customer is always right," type deal and give us a second opinion.

    We’ve been quite satisfied with American Home Shield. We’ve made different claims in the past and they have been really good about it. Also, the guy that came out for our electrical issue did a great job. It took him a while to find it, but he did find it and he fixed it. The people who originally built and wired the house didn’t do the greatest of jobs, because they’ve got most of the plugs out in the family room, and then the electrical plugs in the living room and dining room area all in the same breaker.     American Home Shield sent Jones Family Appliance Repair for the fridge that was icing over and collecting ice in the crisper shelf. They did something. It helped and they were excellent, but the water's coming back. I'm gonna have to have them come back out. But they fixed it with what they thought was wrong and what they commonly see wrong with Samsung refrigerators, and it definitely improved it, but it didn't completely correct it. Still, Jones was great. I was very pleased with American Home Shield, and I plan to continue my membership with them. It's a good service. I'm glad I got it.     My washing machine broke the week of Thanksgiving, 2019. After 3 weeks, finally got an answer that my washer could not be repaired and I opted to take the buy out. They told me the check was mailed on December 19, 2019. I never received a check, finally on January 23, 2020 (after many requests) they finally placed a research on the check. I was told it would be 48 to 72 hours before they could provide me with an update on the check status.

    Today is February 5, 2020 and no one at American Home Shield can provide me an answer as to where my check is for $595.45. I call every single day. The answer I keep getting is, "We are still waiting on an email for an update." Today, Feb 5th I was informed that another research request had been placed on the check. They could not provide as to what happened with the 1st research check request???? I am a very patient person but this is not acceptable for a business practice. I am very disappointed in this service especially their customer service department as I have been dealing with issue since November, 2019. Still waiting for my check they claimed to have mailed!

    To begin with they had a service technician contractor who wouldn't return calls or texts. It has been three weeks and I still don't have a running dishwasher. When I gave up getting the tech to call me back, I called AHS, and their customer service is in Trinidad and Tobago, and English isn't their first language. Turns out that they cant get the right color control panel that matches my dishwasher, so they want to put on a different color. IF I don't like that, they want to "pay me" for the part and let me try to find one myself. It is a mess, and not a good service. If they cant get the correct part they should replace the dishwasher instead of sticking me with a patched together unattractive dishwasher. I will probably just end up buying a new dishwasher. Wish I had kept the $700 that I spent on this contract and I could spend it on the dishwasher. Buyer beware.

    I have used this home warranty provider for multiple years. The last year their service has declined. The contractors provided are not quick to provide service calls. I have had 3 claims this year. Two are for the same repair that was not performed satisfactorily for a toilet that runs/leaks. The same toilet had a repair the previous year. Three service calls for the same issue falls short in providing service w/ satisfactory contractor efforts and skill. I also have a denied claim for an emergency repair required to allow my tenant to leave her garage, denied due to the repair being completed by a contractor they did not arrange, however the tenant did not have the luxury of waiting 24-48 hours for a service call, as she was trapped in the house with her car in the garage.

    Although a call was made identifying the emergency and the AHS representative agreed the repair could be made and noted the account as an emergency, AHS denied the claim to reimburse their covered portion for the garage door repair that is included in the policy. There are too many other choices for providers who do more than collect monthly fees.

    I have 2 homes that were under warranty with AHS. I have cancelled both. The first time I went to use the service, I advised AHS that this was an emergency, water leakage from fridge and no freezer. Service team that was given my request did not even speak clear English nor were they concerned that I had an emergency. They told me it would be 24 hours before they could book my appointment. Appt was then booked for the next day, Tuesday, from 1-4pm when I called back to verify, it was changed to 1-5pm, BUt NO ONE showed up. I called again and we were told they would be there today, Wed. from 9-11 am. I cancelled my appointment because I can't wait for them to tell me they have to order a part and I have to wait another 5-7 days.

    This company is a not accountable for the customers needs nor do they care. They just collect your monthly fees and an American will set that all up so it's nice and clear to understand at that time. All of their phones calls go overseas and the people on the other end are very hard to understand nor is it acceptable to run a business like this. Not one clear answer through this whole process. The best part of it all was cancelling my contracts for both homes, I had an American do that. Thanks for absolutely nothing AHS!

    I had a problem with the heater. I called American Home Shield and they gave me the number of Action Repair Service. The service went pretty quickly, though there was one time when I didn't know if they got the message and I had to call them back. But for my heater claim, once I spoke to the contractor, they came. When the tech was here the first time, whatever the problem was seemed like it kind of didn't happen. The heater was working at the time that he came, but then it cut off again after a few months. They told me to call if anything should happen, so I did. Then they came right away and took care of it. They had to take the heater and see what the situation was. Then the tech came back with the part and put it in. After that, I haven't had any problems with the heater.

    When I bought the house, I knew that the water coming in through the line from the street to the house had a very high pressure on it, and it needed a pressure regulator installed on that for the home.     I filed a claim online for the pump in the sump pump that had stopped working and there was water in the basement. Every time I have to open a work order, I do it online. It’s fast. It’s unbelievable. It immediately tells me who the contractor’s gonna be and that they’re gonna contact me within a certain amount of time. Just two days before my pump claim, the furnace had stopped working. It was 6:30 in the morning and 62 degrees in our house. I set up a work order at 6:30 in the morning, and by 9:30, I had heat.

    We’ve had a number of issues over the years but most recently, I called and put in a request for service. Home Shield sent somebody from Third Generation Plumbing & Mechanical out. The person told me that I had to buy a part and then call them back. I bought the part and called the company back. Then I was told that the earliest return service day they could give me was four days later. I called Home Shield and complained about it. They put you on hold for 15 or 20 minutes and hope you’ll hang up and give up. But when they finally come back, they just tell you, “Too bad.” This is the best they can do. Their communication and customer service are all terrible. I told them that they’re gonna finish this service and I’m gonna cancel the program.

    The furnace stopped working so I called AHS and one of their customer service representatives dispatched the company who told me that they were unable to fix it because it's very old. They recommended that it be replaced and they submitted a replacement paper to American Home Shield. It was authorized and my part was to pay for a permit for all the sales which related to the upgrade of the system. I didn’t know what exactly they meant if it was some kind of tubing or filter but they told me that my part of the payment was close to $2,800.

    I realized later on that American Home Shield was supposed to pay by contract but they refused to pay for the upgrade part and they would cover only $600. It did not even cover the cheapest unit nor even 20% of the labor which needs to be done. It was an old unit which needed to be replaced and whatever unit you're gonna put, it's gonna be an upgrade from the old system.

    When I called customer service to complain, they told me that nothing could be changed and I requested this. They told me that they were not gonna negotiate and so, I requested just whatever pay options because I didn't wanna deal with the blind offer from American Home Shield. I wanna find my own company who will do it, maybe for less money and I wanna choose my own unit. I have nothing towards the company which came and did the evaluation, but I was cheated with that and I was unhappy. On the other hand, I had a 5-star service from Tavor Plumbing. I talked to the customer service rep of American Home Shield and described the problem. She arranged for the contractor to come out and I’ve used them twice already. I’m very happy with their service. They came very promptly, efficiently and professionally.

    I have had American Home Shield for many years and I've been very happy with them. I've had to have put up a stink sometimes and say something is not right. But I would have somebody else come out, look at it and verify it, and I haven't had any problems. The first contractor who came for the refrigerator wasn't qualified to put the death sentence on the refrigerator so AHS had to call Sears. Sears verified that the refrigerator was too old and too far gone and that the Freon was not able to be put into it because it was so old, they don't allow it anymore in that one. They were also very pleasant and nice.

    So I've had to have second opinions. Next time, I would say send Sears first. But the other technicians who came out before were very good too. He actually repaired my dishwasher because my dishwasher and my refrigerator both went out. It's like when it rains, it pours. He was able to fix my dishwasher which I was really happy about. If something can be fixed, AHS would have it fixed. If they can't, they would replace it or give you money towards it and I can upgrade. We live in a older house but everything is upgraded. Now, I have a new well, a new water system and a refrigerator. That's why I have some kind of house warranty. My husband has dementia and with his condition, I have to take care of everything and I can't fix it. So I'm really happy I have American Home Shield to do it.

    For the refrigerator, the pictures AHS showed me of units to pick from weren't energy efficient. Then the other ones were the wrong size. So I went to ABC Warehouse and bought myself. I've had it delivered and I'm happy with it. I paid 800 and something dollars for it and I need to get reimbursed. Then on the claim for my well pump, they wouldn't okay my well pump and I was so thankful that they stuck to their guns and didn't try to replace my well pump because I needed a new well and I didn't know that. I had a well tech come out and he said, "Wow! Yeah, definitely. You need a new well." That happened before winter. Just imagine if my well water went dry in the middle of winter.

    But American Home Shield will never let me have a local company take care of my claims. A lot of companies won't go with American Home Shield because they probably think they're trying to get the money out of them. Right now, I'm going through a claim with my furnace and this is the fourth person coming out and it still is not working right. I think the guys in my town would know more about my furnace than the people who are traveling many miles to get to my house. I wish the guys in my town would go with American Home Shield but they don't. AHS could try to find people that are local for your appliances. But it's fine. Whatever works. It's not American Home Shield's problem either.

    American Home Shield's claims process can be nerve-racking but it depends on the rep I get and who they’re gonna send out. So far, the contractors that they've sent have been okay. For 15 years that I've been with them, I've only had one or two bad contractors. Throughout the years, it has been comforting knowing that they’re there if I need them. I just wish they have a bit wider selection of vendors to use and faster turnaround sometimes.

    Anytime I would turn the heat on, it would blow out cold air. I was trying to get someone on the phone to kinda determine the problem a little bit quicker before I paid the balance for the claim for the contractor to come out, but I couldn’t ever get anyone on the phone, no matter what kind of number I pressed in the recorded line. But after I made the payment, I got the call and then Island Breeze was the one that called me to help determine the problem. The tech came and identified the problem very quickly. It was rewired incorrectly. But he fixed it really fast and was in and out within the hour.

    AHS has done what they've said they were gonna do. Every time that I’ve called, they've had somebody come out and try to repair whatever I asked them to. They’re doing a pretty good job of getting people, but some of the people that come out, are not as experienced as they should be with fixing the problem. The Herley company's tech had to come out more than once. He told me to turn my refrigerator off for 36 hours. We did that and had to take all our food out.

    When he came back, he said that it still didn’t work. I asked what was wrong and he said that it may be something else. He put in a new icemaker and then he said that it may take somewhere around 24 hours before the ice started being made. I sat down waiting but it never worked. He said that he would get somebody else to come out because what he had been seeing was not quite there. Each time they’d have to come out, I had to call the AHS people to let them know to restart it again.

    Mr. Appliance came out next. The tech looked at it and said something about the fan that was not blowing at first and then he had to recheck it. Yesterday, I had told him that I called the manufacturer and that there was a part that I thought he might need. He said that he would look at it. Then he took the icemaker apart, pulled it and set it down. He came and said that a water valve was bad and that he will have to get back with AHS to check with them if it’d be all right to get the part.

    He said that he would call me back yesterday. I gave him a call and asked when he was gonna get the part and when he was gonna come back out. He said that he would come back out this morning between 8:00 and 10:00. The weather was supposed to be bad and he said if he was not gonna show, he'd give me a call. Mr. Appliance just called and they said that they weren’t gonna be able to make it this morning and that I could make them another appointment tomorrow morning. I always tell friends that it’s worth having extra insurance to get repairs done. With the cost to get things repaired, if you didn’t have a company that would cover the repair, it would be a big expense.

    I got outstanding service from After Hours. The owner, Doug, was on site. I have two hot water heaters, and my hot water heaters are next to each other, so it’s a little bit more of a complex setup. He was out on site and diagnosed the first problem. One of the flow meters on it was broken, so that was replaced. And then, after that, there was also another issue that they had to diagnose and come back out on. There were no problems. They just had to order some parts. And service was great. I’ve had a lot come by my house. I always look for people that treat my house like their own, and Doug and his team did. They were always respectful. I trusted them, and they resolved it, so it was very good.

    I’ve used American Home Shield for years. I had multiple houses. My parents now use them as well. It gives peace of mind. In the past, some of the suppliers have been really good. Some of them haven’t been as good. I did try Choice once and I was completely unhappy with the suppliers. So, AHS tend to have higher-quality suppliers, and that makes all the difference.

    I had a previous provider and I had a problem with a claim. I found them not to be as actively interested in resolving it as I thought they could be. My brother was with American Home Shield, and my parents had also previously in their house had been with American Home Shield. I figured thus AHS was worth a try. One concern that I have is like when the electric guy was out, there was an issue on whether he should replace the entire fixture, which he said was broken but usable, as opposed to just the ballast. He said the connectors at the end were cracked and would fail at some point, but he said he could only, at the time, replace the ballast, then I’d have to call back when the actual fixture failed. If contractors had a little bit more flexibility or leeways to be proactive in avoiding a future claim that might be helpful. But otherwise, everything is fine.

    AHS sent a contractor to replace the ballast on the fluorescent light. I might have preferred they’d be a little towards the front of the time window rather than back, but they were well within the window of time that they had estimated. We are satisfied with AHS. I was a little ambivalent about the payments to the contractors they made directly by credit card as part of my logging of the case as opposed to writing a check when we’re satisfied with the work. But all in all, that actually makes things easier. So I’m fine with it now.

    When I went online, I noticed that Appliance Pros had some questionable reviews. But I also know how hard people can be in today’s society. When I called, Missy, the lady that scheduled the repair was nothing but professional with me. I explained to her the situation, that we didn’t have a refrigerator and that we were using like a cooler with ice packs to keep the food. She said that she would get us right in within the next 24 hours because of the urgency. Normally she couldn’t get us in for about four days.

    Appliance Pros did a really good job. They came out the first time and thought the problem had something to do with a switch. They ordered a switch and the tech added some Freon to the condenser. He thought it would be a green light, ready to go. Unfortunately, the compressor never came back on. It looked like there might’ve been an issue with the circulation of the Freon. But they came back out a second time and the guy said that there wasn't much more that they could do for my 18-year-old refrigerator. They wound up calling AHS and AHS did an awesome job. They notified me, gave me some options and replaced the refrigerator as promised.

    You hear people complain all the time about home warranties and I was very skeptical about getting AHS. But my experience with them was amazing and I have had nothing but great things to say about AHS. When I called for my AC unit, they were Johnny-on-the-spot. When I made the claim, within a couple of hours they contacted one of their local contractors. The contractors contacted me and were out within 24 hours at the most. At the worst, I've had to wait around 48 hours. I have two homes under AHS that are both over 15 years old and you can’t beat that. I have peace of mind, knowing that I have several very expensive appliances under their protection. Knowing that all I have to do is call them, I pay my $100, and then you guys take care of the rest is a comfortable feeling.

    I told American Home Shield that I was having a problem with my dishwasher and they told me that they would set up the appointment. I wasn’t sure and looked up Amtec online. They had a lot of bad reports against them and I was kinda concerned, but AHS told me they would make sure that one of Amtec's top mechanics come out.

    The fella that came out was great. He knew what he was doing and did a great job. The latch that closes the dishwasher broke off. Also, it was very hard to close. You had to use all your might pressing against the door to get it to connect. The latch that was broken was changed, but we still had a problem. You couldn’t get the door to close. The contractor had to come back and replace the hinges and the gasket. I’ve also had AHS take care of a couple of little things with the air conditioning. They also replaced a faucet that went bad and was leaking. Things have gone very well so far and I’ve been happy with everything.

    I have two warranties. One on a townhouse and one on a condo. And the townhouse, it has been over a year. I renewed it. It's easier for me to submit claims over the phone. We had plumbers out to the townhouse a couple of times. They were excellent. But the electrical at the condo, not so much. We had things going off, and the tech said the microwave was too powerful for what our electrical was. So, I went and got a smaller one but it was still happening.

    I bought my husband a circuit tester and all our circuits were good, so I didn’t know why it was happening. The tech didn’t go any further than that so I wasn’t too happy about it. We’re still having the issue. He just said, “It’s that microwave.” So, I took it back and got a smaller one but it was still happening. Even when the microwave isn’t running, it was happening. We even changed places. We put it in a different plug in a different area but it was still happening. But other than that, I like that Home Shield responds quickly and they do what they say they're going to.

    My kitchen sink's faucet was broken. It was leaking at the base and the pull-down sprayer wasn't working. I submitted a claim to AHS on a holiday and they then sent Sirius Plumbing and Air Conditioning. The plumber came four or five days later on the day that I wanted him to come. He was really nice and he fixed both my issues the same day. Things are working okay since then. I've been with AHS for over 25 years at two different addresses and I'm really pleased with them.

    American Home Shield's online claims process was user-friendly. When I submitted a claim for a leak that was coming from my washer, there was a notification that said that someone will be contacting me within a window. And if I hadn’t heard from them, that I should call. Greenway Home Services came out twice for it. The young man that came was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable. Before he came in, he put those little foot things on and did a thorough look-through. He replaced two parts that I know of that was damaged. Years ago I had AHS, but then I moved. It was in an apartment and I didn’t have a need to have a home warranty at the time. In 2016, I moved into a home and I knew to get it. But I have been shopping around.

    AHS seems like they just randomly look for one in the area. There should have an option for the vendors to see if you have a better option of a better rating of the people that they’re sending out. With the last people they sent out for me, I had to sit on hold for almost 15 minutes to get a customer service person or they'd tell me to go to their website and do the claim and that they were to e-mail me back. Then I never got an e-mail back. It was an inconvenience. Other than that, AHS has been pretty good. I've had them for four years and everyone that has come out has been fine. The guy from Accord Appliance was very pleasant. When he came out, he needed to order a piece and I gotta do a recall on it.

    It would be better if AHS can explain exactly what is in their policy. For instance, my garage door opener went out but they only covered the actual motor in the garage door opener. They say the garage door opener is covered but it doesn’t explain that if it needs to be replaced, you have to pay out of pocket. Luckily, my garage door opener is very old and the technician said that they don’t cover it to be replaced and that they only fix it. It would have been $700 if they couldn't find the board to my garage door opener. The $100 to $700 is a big jump for someone who can’t afford it.

    My heating claim started out a little shaky because I wasn’t confident that I was gonna get somebody out right away. When I first called, the person that took the claim said that they'd have someone contact me on the first business day. That would have been a Monday, which it’d meant that my heat pump wouldn't be working for the entire weekend during the winter. That was kinda unacceptable and so I told him to withdraw my claim and I'd make a call to see if I could get somebody out right away. I made a call and I only left a message and I was then convinced that I didn’t know if anybody would be able to get out here.

    So then I called American Home Shield back and told them to go ahead and so I submitted the claim and I was at that point assuming that it was going to be Monday before I heard from anybody. But then I got a call 30 minutes later from BPM Services and they said that they'd have a technician out within two hours, and from that moment on, it was awesome. The contractor was a very pleasant fella. His name was Russell and he came out on a Saturday afternoon. I told him what I thought it was, which turned out it wasn’t. He demonstrated that I had a blown capacitor and he demonstrated with his meter that the capacitor was not giving off the right charge. Then he had a spare capacitor in his truck and he got it. He demonstrated again with his meter how that was a working capacitor, and he installed that and it was up and running. I was very happy with how Russell interacted with us.

    This is the first time I’ve ever used AHS. The thing that I like most is I didn’t have to track down a contractor because this place is in a rural area where I don’t know people. And them, having a network of contractors, is good because I don’t have to worry about that. I’m just gonna call the claim in and then they can assign it to whoever they want to. Also, I couldn’t be more pleased with the contractor that they assigned it to. The only thing is that I now know the customer service reps really can’t just say that they’ll have somebody be in touch within two hours. It caused me to have to try to handle the heat claim outside of American Home and then maybe I should resubmit it. If there was any way that AHS could give the customer a little bit more confidence about getting service on things such as heater or those kinds of problem during the weekend, that’s the only area of improvement I can suggest. Overall, it went fantastic.
