There was a bad leak in my house, and I didn't know what was going on. It continued to run and I had people look at it. The icemaker had a leak in the line, and it was way back under the house, and I didn't see it there.

The guy from All American Plumbing turned off the line that runs to the icemaker and then they put in a claim and they offered to repair it, but it was not covered by the warranty. They said it wasn't up to code when it was installed. It's been in there for about 15 years. All American would have to go and redo it, but it was not covered.

They said to fix it, it would be around $700, and I did not have that. I had them turn it off. I don't have icemaker connected now and I'll have to get that fixed later.

I've had stuff done and there has never been an issue with nobody coming out. The technician who came out and his wife were very nice. Customer service is good as well. I've had American Home Shield for years now, so I'm satisfied.

It wouldn’t turn on or off, and they said the controls weren’t working. The technicians were very polite and efficient. They were able to evaluate it, but they couldn’t fix it. I ended up ordering a new one online, and another technician came out to deliver and install it. It’s working fine now.

I had a problem with a microwave and AHS sent someone to serviced it. Unfortunately, it failed again with the same thing before 30 days were over, so they send the same technician again to replace the part that he put the previous time with another one.

Submitting the claim was not difficult. The first time, I think it was on a Thursday, but the technician didn't get back to me until Monday. And then they said he was coming the following day. I had a recurrence within 30 days, and they said I didn’t have to pay anything. They sent the same technician. Again, he worked on the same part that he replaced before and put another one. Presumably, both times, new. So far, it's good since the second repair.

We like American Home Shield because of their wider coverage at a reasonable cost. We had an issue last time. Atria Service sent out their technician but the issue wasn’t resolved. I had to call back and they sent the person to fix it. They ordered a part before coming to the house for the second visit, making me think that they might have known that that part would still have issues or would break. Then when they received that part, they came and replaced it. Everything now is working okay.

Upland Pool Supply came out and diagnosed a couple different issues. And they did a repair on site on one issue, and they told me there were a couple things. They weren’t sure if it could be covered or not, but they submitted anyway. The pool filter was leaking and they said that it would definitely be covered. So, we submitted everything and then I never heard back.

I was texting them and calling them at the number that they have listed, but I wasn’t texting them at the one where they had texted me originally. So, I called American Home Shield. And I said, “Hey, my filter is supposed to be covered,” and they started talking to me about a salt cell not being covered. And I was like, “I don’t even have a saltwater pool.” So, then I started to get a little angry. I’m like, “Okay. I can’t reach Upland. I don’t know why they canceled my filter. And I don’t even have a saltwater pool.” They are screwing up everything.

I also realized, I have a chlorinator that was leaking. And the contractor warned me it probably wouldn’t be covered. I think he put my chlorinator into the system as saltwater chlorinator. But at the time, I was really upset. American Home Shield said, “Let me try and reach back. We’ll call you back.” And then they never called back. A few days have gone by.

Then I called again and I said, “Look, I keep calling. I don’t know why they canceled my pool filter.” So, then they said, “All right. The vendor said they are going to contact us, so we’ll have an answer by tomorrow.” And then tomorrow came and went. So, then I called like a third time. And I’m like, “Hey, I have to sit on hold. This takes a long time. Come on. Can you get me a new vendor?”

Then they actually wound up they were going to get me a new vendor, and then they also tried getting hold of Upland again. And it went on for at least one more time where Upland said they’d get back to them and they didn’t. Then finally, they got another tech out here. And I thought he was coming to fix it because it would already have been diagnosed, but he came and looked at it again and said, “Okay. It has a leak,” and then he left. And then after that, it went smooth. Then they came back like a week later with the filter and replaced it.

Despite all the drama, I tell my friends that American Home Shield is worth it. I said, We’ve had a lot of help with things getting fixed. Everyone is friendly and helpful on the phone. Their website is easy too. I’ve dealt with companies where you call once, you explain it, and somewhere, someone is in the background taking care of you. And that’s what I feel is missing at American Home Shield. Someone could have taken this and dealt with it until it was finished. Still, I am happy with the coverage.

Sean Electrical was phenomenal, but I’ve had some that were absolutely beyond atrocious. So, it’s a pretty wide range. So, we’ve had some great folks. And we’ve had some terrible folks. And we had in between. Because we had a bunch of claims. And all I do is input what’s not working, then the technician comes, figures out what was wrong with it, and then fixes it.

But I submitted a complaint to American Home Shield because one guy was so bad. And American Home Shield is terrible because you can’t get ahold of anyone. So, if there are any issues, if there are any problems, if there’s any complication, fixing that complication, or getting someone at American Home to talk to is a nightmare.

So, you get this phone number for AHS, and it sends you to a call center in the Philippines. And they have a computer system in front of them. And they’re not able to do anything that is outside of what the computer system allows them to do. And so, how they’re able to solve problems is so tremendously limited. But if there’s a common problem that AHS has already anticipated, then usually they’ll help.

For example, I need to book a ticket, or I need to schedule a revisit, or whatever. And if it’s simple stuff, they can do it. But if you tell them that someone came and they couldn’t fix the issue, and you need someone else, they can’t handle it. And then I ask to speak to someone in the U.S. or someone with more authority who can help deal with more complicated issues, but there’s no good mechanism to do that.

Another example of a complication was that I have a geothermal heating and cooling system. This is a special type of heating and cooling system in my home. But it is absolutely covered by American Home Shield. They would recognize it, and it’s in the contract that they cover geothermal. But the problem is that in their computer system, there is no option for geothermal heating. So, when I try to book an appointment, I go on the app, and it asks me what do I want to book a repair for, which of these systems do I want to book it for, air, a heat pump, a water cooler, and there is no geothermal. So, I call them up and tell them that I wanna book an appointment, but the app won’t let me. And I ended up in the Philippines, and I told them that I wanna book an appointment for a geothermal.

They looked at the same system that I looked at, and they couldn't find a good answer. So, they put in something random. They put in heat pump. And then I get a technician who shows up at my house, and he’s expecting a heat pump. And then I tell him that it’s a geothermal. And then he’ll say that he doesn’t know how to work on geothermal.

And I have a ticket open right now, and it’s been open for two months. I still haven’t gotten a repair on my geothermal. And for me to escalate this issue is tremendously difficult. And so, it’s like this whole Philippines call center, and I get it that they’re trying to save money, but there needs to be a better escalation mechanism if something goes wrong that is complicated.

So, if you have very simple and basic common issues, it works well. But the second you encounter anything that has the slightest bit of complexity, it will be a disaster. And their price is reasonable if everything worked properly. The problem is it doesn’t. And so, now, I’m paying monthly, and I don’t get what I’m paying for.

I got one of the best home services from American Home Shield. I filed a claim with Sears for my refrigerator freezer. The claim took a few days. It was relatively fast.

Well, at first, the whole refrigerator was out. Barry came by and repaired it. He said that the evaporator coil was frozen. The bottom appeared to be freezing, but it was only freezing at the top.

Every time I called them, they had to replace my stove too. I got a Frigidaire now, and it works perfectly. I'd never ever have a problem. I had a problem before and thought LG Appliances were good, but I'm seeing they ain't so good, which is similar to Samsung.

I feel like the technician from Yukon was not knowledgeable at all. He just looked at it, laughed and said there was nothing wrong with it. He didn’t know how to check for anything.

The next technician who came out did take time to check the appliance and he made a report as to what he found, so I feel like he did his part. But instead of offering to fix or replace it, they’re sending a third company out today to look at it again.

They should check the contractors that they are using. They sent Yukon out here before for my washing machine, and he could not fix it at all. They sent another company and they fixed it the same day.

We identified a leak in my townhome. I put in a claim and AHS sent Cascade Plumbing. The impression of the technician was if there’s a leak, that means the ceiling will be discolored. I told him that’s not the case. When we turn on the water in the master bathroom, you can hear the leak in the second level where the kitchen is.

He went upstairs to the attic and said he didn’t see anything. But he heard the leak when he was on the second floor. We pointed it out when we turned the shower and the faucet on in the master bathroom.

But regardless of where it’s from, I think it’s coming through one pipe. We were trying to identify what was going on but he didn’t want to wait. He was in a rush to get out of here and he said there was nothing for him to do. He told us that if there was a leak, the water meter would be spinning. I was trying to tell him that I didn’t wanna be a couple of months down the road and all of a sudden, the ceiling comes barreling down.

I worked with Cascade Plumbing before and a different guy came out. He was really nice. But this guy that came was having a bad day. I did request him when he called in the morning if he could wait for 10 minutes so I can wrap up a meeting. He flat out told me no and that he needed to go to his next client. I was scheduled at 9:00 AM. He came back 4:30 the same day.

It started off with a $330 water bill which was too high for a small household like ours, so I contacted American Home Shield. Pronto Plumbing came out, didn't do anything. He walked around, looked at the toilets and said we need to get leak detection out here ‘cause the issue had to be under the slab. The leak detection guy was nice, but the only option Pronto gave us was to cut up the concrete slab, so we had to remove all the cabinets, and then refinish the tile floor, and they were charging us $5,000 out of pocket. Pronto took forever. They were rude, unprofessional, didn't answer the phone, didn't call in a timely manner to figure out our situation. We had that $330 water bill, I started the process rolling to get it fixed, and we went through another billing cycle before they even got back to me, so I had another $330 water bill, because they were taking so long. I ended up fixing it myself, after consulting with a different plumber who gave me the idea of relocating where the pipe is, capping it off, and then rerouting it back to where the source was, and it worked fine. My water bill went down to $170, and I was able to do it within the cost of the cash payout I got from American Home Shield as far as the material goes.

One thing with American Home Shield, it's a confusing about what is covered and to what extent, and there should be more transparency up front. Because I wanted to get the ball rolling with the plumber, and the person I talked to couldn’t answer me. I didn’t know what to do ‘cause Pronto was charging us $5,000. All of a sudden, I was given the cash out option, which I should have known I had from the beginning. It was a little difficult to understand people's accents, but the attentiveness and how easy it was to get a real person on the line, I appreciated that.

My dryer had stopped drying, so we had to get that repaired. The rep from All Star Appliance Repair was professional, but it took them over a month to repair my dryer. And as I explained to the technician, I could have got that done myself in a month. The purpose of me having American Home Shield service is because they supposedly offer quick, prompt service and that’s why I pay for it. But I was not satisfied with the turnaround time at all.

They said they had to order a part, which they did. They said that was going to take two weeks. So, when he came back with the part, he came back with the wrong one. And then, he tried to force it on my dryer, which it didn’t work. So, he said he had to order something else, and that it would take another two weeks. They were finally able to repair and it has been working. I haven’t had any issues since they repaired it, but it took too long. And we are a family of five, so there was a lot of stuff.

Still, I love American Home Shield. I have had them when I first purchased my home for a couple of years, and then I tried something else and I didn’t like them. AHS is better, so I came back. I prefer American Home Shield over other companies.

American Home Shield had to replace my hot water heater and after the initial visit, it took over two weeks or a month before everything was approved and repaired. Apparently, when I called Patel to get information, they said they’d reach out to American Home Shield, but I never heard back. I was left in limbo waiting for a decision, and the whole process took too long.

One more thing. I’m not sure if this falls under their service. The hot water heater is connected to the ductwork, and the section where the duct connects to the wall is completely rotted out. We paid for the installation, but Patel only put aluminum tape to cover some of the holes. That’s not enough to prevent carbon monoxide from entering the house.

The microwave is not heating up. The technician was really nice. He explained the problem to us. He went back here several times. He tried his best to fix it. He replaced the parts twice, but I think it failed. And then, we were talking to him, "What's wrong?" He said, "The appliance is old already." he told us that he's reporting it to his supervisor. We ask him, "So what's wrong? Why can't you fix it?" He said, "It's already old." So he said himself that he's recommending it for replacement. But his supervisor will not listen to him. Will just keep sending him back here for four months. It's not functioning. It's not heating up. For four months, nothing was repaired. I was very dissatisfied because we've been paying the monthly premium.

I had a dryer that wasn’t drying, so I called American Home Shield. They sent a guy out. I thought the heater core might have failed. It’s a very old, beat-up dryer. The contractor came out, and he said it got set to fluff mode, and I didn’t even know the dryer had a fluff mode. He cleaned out some lint and stuff, and it’s all good.

I called them back because I used to have a light bulb, but it’s not working. The contractor came back the next morning. He said it must be a little tab that had gotten loose, so he fixed it. Now everything works fine.

I have had AHS for three years. So far, I’m very positive about it. The claim process is fast. I do it all online. Within a day or two they get back to me, and they schedule somebody. I used them for a number of appliances here. Sometimes there’s some part that they have to order, so they have to come back in a week. But other than that, everything works great with them.

Our dryer died. The guy came out and tried to fix it. He put in a new part but it still didn’t work. So they said they will get in the dryer. But then they didn’t have a comparable dryer so they will have to send it over to some other department. That’s been three months.

For our clothes washer, it’s covered but it doesn’t have its little sticker on it anymore. They couldn’t figure out what model it was so they couldn’t do anything about it. But that’s not right because I’m paying for it to be covered.

I had to look for my own contractor, and essentially received the same quote estimate as the contractor connected to me by Home Shield. I purchased a new house. And once I move in, I'm gonna have them do that house as well. They're pretty good. It could be less because I added digital for my electronics. If I weren't doing that, then it'd be a lot less. But I wanna protect my TVs, my laptops. So it's worth paying for that. Actually, my mom had them up in Virginia, and they took care of her as well when she had issues, and that's the only reason why I went, because I was referred by her.

We found out that the dryer wasn’t working because our clothes were still wet after a cycle. I contacted American Home Shield for repairs. The first company that they sent out came out, assessed it, and determined that it needed a part. The part had to be ordered and it would take about three days. Eventually, they got the part, and it took a little longer than three days. The same company came back and repaired it.

Later, when we went to use the dryer, it didn’t work. We tried to call the company back, and it went straight to voicemail. We tried several times but never got a call back. I called American Home Shield again and let them know what was going on. They said they would send someone else, and that company came out and was able to repair it. The entire process was about three weeks. It was a big inconvenience not having a dryer for that long.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time. There’s some red tape I have to deal with from time to time, but they have come through. They eventually get it done. But their service charge has gone up. When I started out, it was about $30, and then it went to $50 and $75. Now, it’s $100. Another thing that changed is now they want the payment upfront where I have to use my credit or debit card.

American Home Shield offered us not to be charged with the first service fee of $100 because there was a misunderstanding. I just haven't checked if the refund went back to the credit card. My garage door was stuck, and they said it's not covered, but it should be covered.

And then the first technician from Gabriel's Garage Doors came. He has got an attitude. Because the way he talks is, “Did you do this and do that? Somebody did this.” It was over 48 hours before we were able to get in touch with each other.

I called, and then he was so demanding and said, “Oh, I can come now.” Of course, I made myself available at this time immediately with 30 or 45 minute advice, for me to have that fixed right away.

And when he arrived, I told him, “Well, you should have communicated with me.” And then his words were, “Are you blaming me?” There is an attitude in the way he answered me, and when he was to fix and see it, it seemed that he was blaming me for something.

Then a different person came out afterwards and offered a second opinion. They also said it's not covered.

The second technician is okay, but he was recommending something beyond what should be done. He was insinuating that I have to spend something that is not on the insurance. And that is not right.

Communication is very important. I'm the property manager, and I don't have time to wait. There was lots of talking. For me, it's just good enough that they refunded the fee. I was about to cancel that, and they offered it. So it's just a win-win situation.

It's done, and they didn't like to do it. They offered me $125, so I just took it to move forward. I had it repaired by ourselves already. I bought a new opener, as everything is working fine now.

The most recent claim was for a dishwasher, and I submitted it online. The process was fairly easy. The contractor who came out was very professional, and that was a good experience. However, I’ve also had some not‑so‑good experiences.

I had a blockage that never got fixed. They kept scheduling it and then canceling. I was told American Home Shield didn’t have anyone in my area, which I don’t really understand. Eventually, our house flooded, so the blockage wasn’t an issue anymore because it got resolved after the flood.

That happened to me twice with two different issues. The warranty would schedule it and then cancel it, saying there was nobody in my area. I pay them every month, and the cost keeps going up every year, so I don’t understand how they can say there’s no one available.

They won’t let me use my own contractor, but they also won’t find one for me. When they do send someone, it’s quick and the technicians are very professional. But when they don’t, it’s not a good experience at all.

Since we've had American Home Shield, we've had quite a few price increase for our monthly payment, but we get a bunch of emails about 50% off and those types of things that do not apply to existing customers. And so, promotions for customers who have been long-time customers would be good.

We've had them for about seven years now. I've referred a couple of people to the program and I did not receive the $100 gift card that they said they'll send. We've only gotten one $25 gift card for all the people we have referred. And it's taking too much time and energy to even go back through to call to get to the right person and dispute it. That is something that they could work on.

But they automatically sent the scheduled date through email, so I didn't have any input on when the contractor was coming.

When the contractor came, there was not enough information shared by him. I wanna know things up-front so that if this issue happens again, I would know how to fix it and what to do. When I asked him what he found, he said, “I don't know. It could be this part or could be that part. I'm gonna order both.” I was like, “Okay.” He told me after the fact what he was putting in, once he was there to install the part. Since the repair, my dishwasher has been working fine.

This was the first time that I used American Home Shield in the nine years or so that I've had it. One of the things that I like most about the service is that it is user-friendly. It adds a layer of protection when you're in your home. Very easily, my dishwasher would have been over $1,000. I wish they could go down on the deductible. But even at that rate, I would rather spend 100 versus 1,100. I have recommended American Home Shield to friends.

The contractor sent by AHS came to fix the electrical problem that was covered inside the box.

I had no other issues since then. My dryer is working.

Even though it costs $100 for everybody to come out, I feel it's worth it. The labor cost is a pain in the butt, but at the same time, it's a lifesaver. So, it's like a hit and miss to me because sometimes, the work was like, “That's all it was? I paid $100 for this?” But really, that $100 go towards their gas coming out and whatever.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for many years, and overall, I haven’t had many issues, except for some recent problems. Recently, I had a problem with my smoke detector, and Ryco Electric came out. The technician told me that the company said I wasn’t covered for a smoke detector with a carbon monoxide detector, and they tried to keep my $100 deductible. I told them they were supposed to know what I was covered for, but they said it wasn’t their issue and blamed me. I’m still having a problem with the smoke detector, and they’re supposed to refund my money within 3 to 5 days, but I haven’t received it yet.

Another time, I had clogging every year since purchasing my house, which caused water to run downstairs, requiring drywall replacement. The plumbers said it wasn’t the issue and suggested it might be the sewer. I tried to explain that I needed the sewer looked at, but they misunderstood. They kept sending me back to the same people, who said, “We already talked to them,” and filed it as a septic tank issue, which it wasn’t.

Their customer service used to be responsive and would always find someone to help if I didn’t like the person or if the company wasn’t responding. However, I’m not getting that level of service anymore. Also, I can barely understand their customer service representatives because of the accent. They also couldn’t understand me, as they kept repeating what I had already said.

I had an issue with the pipe. It had basically burst and wasn’t staying attached. The technician came out and said all he needed to do was replace the P-Trap because it wasn’t connected properly, which had caused flooding under my kitchen. The technician was very nice and professional.

I submitted the claim through the website. It could be a little easier because you have to pick something. If you’re not sure what the problem is, you end up guessing or just selecting a category like plumbing.

My problem started with the pipe. I’m not sure I’d say it burst. I used the garbage disposal, thought everything was clear, ran some water, and then found water all over the floor. The plumbing under the sink had come unattached. Originally, I described it as the pipe coming off and flooding the floor, and I might have also noted “pipe burst” or “water damage” because I wasn’t sure if the floor had been damaged or exactly what was happening.

I was surprised that 5Star contacted me right away. I expected to wait a few days, but I filed the claim around 5 or 6 on Sunday, and they called me by 8am, Monday morning. They came out within two hours, which really surprised me.

I’ve been pretty satisfied with American Home Shield. I have noticed their prices have gone up, especially the deductible, and some of the coverage isn’t exactly what I’d prefer. But that wouldn’t stop me from keeping them or recommending them.

When I first bought my house, my dishwasher went out. They didn’t assign me one, they gave me options. I could choose from a catalog or buy one myself and get reimbursed. I ended up going to Costco, bought a dishwasher, sent them the information, and they refunded me. I appreciated having options and that they worked with me on the replacement.

On another claim, before they changed the system, the company didn’t pay the deductible directly to American Home Shield and they were supposed to notify them. I ran into an issue because the company never told American Home Shield that I had paid, even though I had.

I kept getting bills from American Home Shield, so I had to work with them directly to get it resolved. After that, they changed the system so the company paid them directly. I’d say if there’s ever a problem, they do communicate well and work with you to fix it.

I am satisfied with the service from American Home Shield, and I’ve actually had them for about 15 years now. The claim process is real good, and it’s working out pretty well because whenever I call in, I just have to pay that 100 bucks for things. The only problem I’m having is that this current issue is taking a long time.

Alpha Appliance Pro Tech came out and replaced the circuit board twice, but I tried to tell him that what he did wasn’t even the problem. He left anyway, so I had to call back and say, “The problem that he originally came in to fix, he did not fix.” They ordered more parts and then American Home Shield sent the field guy here. He’s been out twice and had the same problem. I guess he just made a mistake. He’s scheduled to come back this Friday to try to finally fix it, and I’m just hoping that when they come here on Friday, it finally gets resolved.

Our washing machine wasn’t spinning and draining. It leaves a couple of inches of water in the tub. I had the chance to get all the clothes out, wring them out and air dry a little bit. And then I was able to put them in the dryer so it was in its last cycle.

I called American Home Shield and complained about it. I talked to a live person and then I had to submit something online. They sent Sears out, who then repaired the washing machine. But it was very unprofessional to leave water on my basement floor.

We also had a guy who came to repair the fan motor in my freezer. He put all the nuts and bolts back in the same place. Then I had a drain problem from my kitchen. The guy came down and he was very professional and didn’t leave a mess. I had a new kitchen and he didn’t mess up my new floor because he put protection down.

I highly recommend my friends to get this protection. I like the peace of mind that if an appliance breaks, it’s gonna be fixed properly. All my appliances are fairly new so it was a no-brainer to get protection for extra insurance policy. The reps answer my questions and they give me a timeframe of when somebody’s gonna come out to see what the actual problem is.

I also like having professional techs come out and that they repair what I need done within a couple of days, if not the next day. But I hope AHS makes sure that their service techs treat customers’ homes like they do their own. If I do work for somebody, I’m gonna treat that customer like I’m doing my own house.

There was a leak in the pipe at the outside hose line. This leak has already happened before, and American Home Shield covered it last time. The technician from T Main Plumbing and Heating came and gave a very quick diagnosis about it. But for some reason, the way he explained it to me, it seemed that this current leak wasn't covered. They called me back and told me that they could fix it, but it wouldn't be covered under the insurance. I would have had to pay the company directly, which was five times the cost. So I got someone else to repair it because I don’t want to give them the satisfaction of getting the money.

American Home Shield should look for better companies to send out to service their customers, because the previous contractor wasn’t that good at all and took about two weeks just to get out there. When they came out, they gave me a bogus repair order saying that it wasn't covered. I've been paying insurance, but I haven't been able to utilize it on my first claim. Hopefully, it doesn't happen again.

That was an antique piece, and I would have liked to keep it. American Home shield could have done something about the color matching. Still, I’m quite satisfied with them compared to our previous home warranty company. Their pricing is reasonable too.

I had a problem with my water heater, but the technicians American Home Shield sent blamed them for the repair not getting done, saying the case was closed even though nothing had been done. When they came out the first time, they told me they had a water heater in the shop that they could put in, and it would be two to four days before they got out to do it. However, I waited a week and nobody showed up. I tried calling the technicians but couldn’t get ahold of them, so I called AHS.

The representative told me that the case was closed because the technicians said they did all the work. They reopened the case and told me to call the technicians to see when they could come out. When I talked with them, they said it was AHS who closed the case, not them, and that they were waiting on the water heater to come in, but the case was closed, so they weren't coming back out. But since AHS reopened the case, they did say they were going to come out and do it.

My water heater is working fine now. The gentlemen who came out were very nice, though they weren’t the same ones who came the first time. The guy told me that it was leaking from four places. We have the same problem with the faucet. It was leaking water around the base, all down into the sink. This was the first time I had an experience like this with American Home Shield. It made no sense for them to close the case when the repair wasn’t done. I had to pay the service fee and around $130 for the water heater.

The people at AHS are very nice, but the fees are getting ridiculous. I pay about $120 now a month, and on top of that, I have to pay a service fee, which I understand. But then why do I have to pay for the water heater, the furnace, or the air conditioner? It doesn’t make sense. I got this because it was going to be a big help. Both my daughters and I have AHS. I was recommending them to everybody, and now I don't want to recommend them to somebody and then have them say, "Wait a minute. Why am I paying extra on top of this?"

I love that option from them.

Everything was set up. I just did not like how I had to wait a week and a half for the representative and the technician to come out.

The AC needed a new evaporator coil. American Home Shield told me that they couldn’t replace it because there needed to be like $3,000 worth of modifications before. When I talked to the technician from Enviro Mechanical, he said it would benefit me to just get a new unit because the current one will become obsolete in December, at which point I would end up being in the same boat. I decided to do the buyout instead because we could not afford to finance a new unit at that time.

It was a little frustrating because my husband and I ended up taking off work four different times for the technicians. The first two times they came, they said it was the outdoor unit. They fixed a part of it, left and then the AC broke 30 minutes later both times. It was the third person who figured to look in the attic, the drip pan and the evaporator coil, which he discovered was leaking Freon and causing it to go off.

Up until this point, I have been satisfied with American Home Shield. I usually submit a claim online. That service works well. I’ve been a member for five years. I pay money per month as insurance for them to fix major problems, so I was disappointed at the way that it went down.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a while, and my experience has been up and down. Sometimes I get a good plumber or electrician, and I’m pleased, but sometimes the people they refer don’t know what they’re doing. Sometimes I have to tell them to send someone who actually knows what they're doing. When that happens, the problem gets fixed, but I already paid $300 for three people to come out here to tell me there's nothing wrong. My daughters in Virginia have the same complaints.

I don’t know how they screen their contractors. They’re polite and professional, but since I have no technical knowledge, all I can say is, 'It’s not working,' so it’s their job to find out why. The last technician that came out for my washing machine explained that a dryer is to dry and a washing machine is to wash, and that’s all AHS will cover. If my dryer makes noise while running, as long as it heats and dries, they won't fix the noise.

Sometimes I ask to use the same technician as last time, but they'd tell me they could not send the same people out that they sent before because that’s their policy. The only thing I have to complain about is getting good techs to do the job and not being put on hold for two or three days before they can get out. Especially in an emergency, plumbing needs to be checked promptly.

Every year the price goes up, but I’m not getting better service. One thing I complained about is having to pay for service calls. They automatically take the service call out of my checking account, and then I have to wait for someone to come or call me back to make an appointment. I said, “Well, you guys already got my money, and then, of course, the service fee,” and asked, “What if I decide I don’t want to use you?”

I have four units, and everybody got washing machines, stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers, so I'm paying for four units in this building for services. Every month, I'm paying over $2000 for maintenance on AHS, and then I still have to pay the $100 for the service call.

They reduced it to $108 a month and gave me a free work order. Because of that I had decided to stay with American Home Shield during that time. Then I had an issue with the bathtub faucet. Every time we took a shower, a lot of water came out from the showerhead and from the faucet. We were wasting water all the time.

American Home Shield initially recommended the first contractor, On Point Plumbing, Electrical, Heating & Air, and scheduled the service for Monday, the 24th of March between 10:00 and 2:00. The technicians couldn't make it, so they called me and we rescheduled the work for Tuesday between 1:00 and 5:00. I waited until almost 4:30, but no one showed up. Upon calling the contractor, they told me that they called me. But nobody did. The lady suggested scheduling another service for Saturday, but I don't have time for that, so I hung up.

I called American Home Shield on the 25th of March. I spoke to a young lady there, and I told her what happened and that I have no messages received nor missed calls from On Point Plumbing, Electrical, Heating & Air. After she contacted the contractor company, she called me and told me that it was I who canceled the service call. I told her that I did not cancel the appointment, and the technicians didn't even show up and wanted to reschedule me for Saturday. Still, she insisted that I canceled the service.

The second contractors who came were the two young technicians from Ambition Plumbing & Drain Services who were able to fix it well. They were very professional and did a great job. Now we can take a shower without having to waste so much water. However, they needed me to pay $100, if I wanted the faucet fixed. So I did. That service fee that I paid to the second contractor was supposed to be a freebie for me. That was my determination to quit. I'm no longer with American Home Shield. Overall, they have been good, except for that one person who didn't help me and was pretty adamant that it was my fault.

I love American Home Shield. They come in handy. I’ve had them for almost three years because when I moved into my house, I got them right away.

The last claim I had was a water heater that was leaking all over the floor. And then AHS sent Watson Plumbing and mechanical out. So, they replaced the pipe that goes with that. And then they checked the toilet, the little piece that goes into the piece that fills it up with water, and they also fixed that.

Well, I had to call again, and they came out again to try to fix it, but it’s still broken. It’s still not fixed right. So, I didn’t know if I needed to call them again and do another thing or just call them and tell them that this is strike three.

I also had something replaced in my furnace this year. And they fixed that. It was some motor. And it would have cost me a lot of money if I didn’t have AHS. And I don’t have any money. So, that worked out great. And I think I’ve had them for a couple of other plumbing issues. So, I’m thankful that I have American Home Shield.

We have three houses under contract and the recent repair was in our house in Virginia, where my daughter lives now. There was a leak in the AC system, and they did fine. AHS is very handy. The biggest hassle is trying to find workers. With AHS, you put in a ticket and they find somebody for you. That's the biggest advantage.

The heating element wasn’t working correctly in my oven. I went on American Home Shield’s website and did the claim. Afterwards, I was given a brief statement that the contractor will contact me within 24 hours or whatever. They contacted me via text message and phone call and scheduled a time. Within a couple of days, they contacted me again and said they couldn’t make my schedule in the morning. I told them I would contact American Home Shield to get another contractor. Later on, they came back and were able to make my morning schedule. That’s the only concern I had with the contractor. The tech came in, did the job, pointed things out, and made it as quick as possible. He showed me the part to me and got rid of it for me. Now everything is working great.

I’m an electrician who got tired of repairing things myself, so I got American Home Shield. It’s been a few years now that I’ve been with them. I like that the people who come out are reasonable and timely. The only thing is their monthly fee. I pay every year, and usually nothing happens. I think there should be a refund or some kind of credit system. If we don’t use the service, maybe they should give back 10% or 20% of the monthly fee.

We've been protected with American Home Shield for 12 years now, in different homes. A friend at work in particular recommended taking out an insurance because repair costs are very high and they covered most things. Over time, that's proven to be the case, so it was good advice I got.

AHS is quite timely, although it hasn’t been in the past. Sometimes if I've not had air, it would be a week before somebody came out. Now it’s usually only a couple of days. Generally, the repairs are good and they hold good. It’s worth the cost of the plans. If I had a slight criticism, sometimes I don't think the contractors are the best.

We've had a couple of AC issues here, and ultimately I had it replaced after the system failed. I didn't claim through the insurance, but the guy who came out said I can’t set the air to cool to what I wanted because the humidity is so high, which I don't believe. I think the system was failing, but he didn't wanna tell me that.

The guy from Salty Air Appliance was good when he fixed the refrigerator, but his timing wasn't great. The ice maker was not working, so I submitted a claim online. I got an appointment date and when they came out. he was an hour late of the three-hour window that he gave.

He used the computer in the machine to do a diagnosis and said he had to get parts. When he came back, he said he’d read up and wanted to check another diagnosis from the system. It turns out he just needed to free the ice that was at the back of the ice-making machine, which took 15 minutes. The repair was good. The fridge is perfectly fine and dispensing ice again.

The last claim was fine. It was for the tumble dryer and I filed that over the phone. But the previous time, it was awful. Our water heater broke down and the experts American Home Shield sent in told some cockamamie story that it was some other event that caused it, not the water heater. We brought in a plumber which completely said that the first guy was telling was speaking rubbish. But American Home Shield wouldn't believe that. I had to pay for another one of their guys to come out just to say again that their first guy said rubbish.

In the meantime, I couldn't take a shower for 13 days. There was so much time lost because of the first guy giving a fictitious wrong report. It did cause one to lose faith in the integrity of this company. We were very seriously thinking of changing companies after the plumbing incident, but it's more trouble than it's worth to change things. So we haven't not moved because we were not happy. It's because we just didn't extend the effort.

Those plumbers told a far-fetched tale and it was totally unsubstantiated. We weren't sure how much of it was that they were incentivized to give a wrong report so that American Home Shield wouldn't have to pay. When I approached them to say, "Are you sure? Because I can't see any of the stuff that you say," they just sod me off by saying, "Look, they're professionals and that's their opinion and that's the story. Sorry, the company is not gonna pay for your water heater." It was quite a betrayal with this company.

The heater wasn't clicking on. It wasn't heating the house. We had the issue once and made the call and somebody came out, but the day that somebody came out, we weren't having the problem. It was working. so there wasn't anything that that person could really do. The next time it happened, we had the same vendor come out, but the technician wasn't available, so somebody different came out. He could not get it fixed. He said there were too many little issues that had to get resolved. And he said that he would file a report and that we would get a copy of it and he'd let us know what the next steps were going to be.

I did some follow-up because I never heard from anybody. I called and asked what the status was, and I found out that AHS was denying the claim, saying it wasn’t covered in the contract.

To this date, I still haven't received any correspondence from AHS about rom the first visit or the second visit. I did receive the invoice that I needed from the vendor in order to make my initial $50 payment. The second follow-up didn't require a payment because it was covered under the first visit when the problem didn't take place.

I called in HSA and asked what's happening, why I have not gotten any communications. They said, "We'll have to get back to you." My wife made the next follow-up call because we still hadn't heard back and they said that it had been denied. They don't know why a letter hadn't gone out to us.

We've been a 24-year customer of AHS. AHS said they will send out another vendor for a second opinion, which they did. And that second vendor came out. And that vendor said basically the same thing, "It looks like you've got this issue with this part and this issue with that part, and you have issues relative to capacity with your unit."

Long story short, we still haven't gotten any information from AHS. We didn't get any follow-up from the first call, the second call, or the third call, which was the second opinion, but I wound up talking to somebody who, again, told me that it was not covered. I asked to speak with a supervisor, and of course, everything takes two to five business days and I'll have to put in a request and they couldn't transfer me at any time. Nobody could ever transfer me anywhere, to either the authorization department or to a supervisor.

And then the supervisor called me and I said, "I still have not received any correspondence from HSA." We confirmed the email address again. We added another email address so they could send it to both. They said, "Well, it'll probably take 48 hours before this goes out." I said, "Why does it take 48 hours? You've had three visits here.” We haven't seen an explanation in writing yet as to any of the diagnosis or the reason why they're declining the claim. I don't even know what questions to ask moving forward. I've already looked at my email once this morning and I'll check again to see if they've gotten anything to me. So, it's not been a good experience.

On top of the frustrating fact that they don't want to cover the claim for us, almost every person with whom we've had conversation has been offshore, and we can't understand what the person's saying. It's been ridiculous. it's frustrating if you can't understand what somebody's saying and it just makes this whole situation even worse for us.

One time, our well was messed up, and a representative told me it was covered. When the technician came out, he said the warranty wouldn’t cover it, and it ended up costing us about $10,000.

The same thing happened this time with the plumbing when the toilet backed up. They said it wasn’t covered, and I had to pay a little over $400 to have it snaked. On top of that, this time they referred us to a plumber who was no longer in business.

Hello Winifred. Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review. I apologize for the service issues that you've encountered during your time with AHS.

When you speak with one of our agents regarding coverage, they communicate the coverage as detailed in the contract. However. they cannot provide an authorization decision at that time. As you have no doubt noticed in your contract, for each system there are a set of failure conditions that are covered, as well as a set of failure conditions that are not covered.

The technician's on-site diagnosis is needed so that the Authorizer knows exactly what the circumstances of the failure are; it is this complete picture that determines the extent of coverage for any repair or replacement. If you receive a complete denial of coverage, you may always request a second opinion diagnosis. This is performed by a different vendor so as to give AHS the clearest possible information regarding the nature of the failure. If the second vendor determines that the first diagnosis was in error, AHS will adjust the authorization decision accordingly and will assign the second vendor to complete any authorized repairs.

I was able to locate your service account with us, and I will be reaching out to you via email shortly.

There were two different issues. The first one was the flipper faucet that wasn’t working. When the contractor came in, I had them look at it. The hot water heater was also not working properly, and the washing machine could not be hooked up because the pipes were brittle and corroded, and would have burst.

So I put it in another claim with AHS, and the same company was sent out. They replaced the water heater and faucet where the washing machine plugged in to that. They had to bring the water heater up to code because it had been there for probably 30 years. It was there when I first bought the house in '99.

The water heater had corroded to the point that it was still working, but I knew it wasn’t long for its life. And, in order to repair the pipes around it, it was going to be disconnected. At that point, if we touch it, it would fall apart because of the corrosion.

When I called the contractor back, the issue was pretty much handled. They told me what was going on and sent me pictures. They routed it out the drain and replaced the flipper. Everything was fine. I handled most of the claims by text since it was out in the utility room. I never really met the contractors in person. They would work during the day.

I have two different houses that are insured by American Home Shield, and it keeps them separate and does a good job of keeping it focused. I always hear from people within 24 hours, unless it’s on a weekend, and things work out well. I like the service because it’s cost-effective for me. The price has gone up over the years, but it hasn’t gone up considerably considering other inflationary areas.

The monthly premium is worth it in terms of the money saved and convenience. When I think of the time I’d spend getting bids and taking time off my own work to do these things, I know that with American Home Shield, I’m getting the best possible deal and quality work because they’re vetted.

The only thing I have a concern with, and it’s pretty consistent, is that every once in a while, I have to get Freon coolant for my air conditioning system. That seems to be a little costlier than I would like. I just know that it’s always an extra charge in addition to the service charge.

Overall, American Home Shield is consistent and of good quality. The process of submitting a claim online was great. It works very intuitively. The contractors have always been friendly, pleasant, and professional. I’ve had no problems with the customer service. It’s been great.

I had a recent claim for a broken faucet in our kitchen with American Home Shield and was upset at how long the process took. I was very frustrated. Our claim was declined at first because the claims adjuster said that the motion sensor on the faucet caused it not to work. They said they don’t cover electronics and smart faucets. But the motion sensor had nothing to do with the problem. There was just a broken part, which should have been covered from the get-go.

The technicians I was dealing with were great. We were very, very happy with them. They offered to put me on the line with the claims adjuster, which I wasn’t able to do on my own. It finally took me getting the technician, the repair company, and American Home Shield’s claims department all on the line together to convince them that the motion sensor had nothing to do with the problem. It was just a broken piece of the faucet. I even told them I didn’t care if I got a new faucet without a motion sensor.

There was a lot of miscommunication between the customer service line and the claims department. When I called in, I was told everything was approved and that I just needed to speak with the repair company. Then when I called the repair company, they told me it was declined. I was told that I wasn’t talking directly to the claims adjuster. Once I was finally able to speak directly with the adjuster and explain what actually happened, it was approved. I probably called four or five different times, and each time I kept being told that, “Yes. Everything looks okay.” And it wasn’t. After almost two weeks, we finally got our kitchen faucet repaired.

On this particular claim, it was just really disappointing. But I had other repairs in years past where American Home Shield had been awesome. It just took them so long to resolve this issue. One improvement would be better communication between their customer service people and the claims adjuster so they’re on the same page. At the very least, they should allow customers to get in touch directly with adjusters if they don’t agree with a denial. I was only able to do so because the technician was able to transfer me. They had me on the line while they were speaking with them.

I apologize for the issues that you encountered with the authorization process. AHS' procedure for authorization is designed for the technician to transmit information clearly to our authorizers so that the correct coverage decision can be completed in a timely manner. This clearly did not occur in your case, and we will be looking into this matter more closely.

I'm glad that the assigned vendor was professional and communicated clearly with you, even assisting you to get through to our team.

I will be contacting you directly within the next few days.

The technician came before time, and I was very pleased with that because I didn't want to lock up my entire day. He came out, greeted us, looked at what was going on, and tested everything with the system, and everything was good. He didn't try to sell me a hog. I've been with certain companies, where they come in and tell you everything is wrong. They try to take advantage of you just because you're a woman. I didn't feel like he did that to me. He just got me on and going, and he was out of here in no time. He didn't make a mess. He was very respectable and respectable of my time. The service was awesome.

I filed the claim with American Home Shield online and I really enjoyed it. I logged into my account on their website, and it's very easy to use. I did it over the weekend, and it was easy to make the appointment. But on that Monday, Phil's Good AC & Heating called me up and I snapped at the lady because they had appointments during the week and they weren’t open on the weekend.

I had already paid my $100, and I wanted my money back. I understand everybody is working a Monday through Friday job. Everybody wants to do the 9:00 to 5:00. But at the same time, I still have to make accommodations for that because I don't work close to where I live. But the receptionist was really nice at that field, and she did talk to her manager. They made an exception and they said that they would have a technician to come out on Saturday if I was available and for the early time slot. I was happy.

American Home Shield definitely follow-ups with everything. They'll send you a follow-up email and be like, "Hey, how was your service? Did it get done? We noticed that we have some notes and this is not finished. What's going on?" They communicate a lot.

The price is fair. I didn't shop around for a lot of different things. It's like shopping for car insurance right now. It is what it is. It's better than having to call up a technician yourself and having someone in here that don't know what they're doing. I like being able to have a trail. When they have the chain of custody, they can see exactly who's coming out and how many times they came out versus having the homeboy service coming in, fixing something, and breaking something else.

If I could possibly give a negative star rating of American Home Shield, I would. I said I would never go back to this company however Coldwell Banker used them and I paid for the plan at the closing of my new home. Please do not spend your money with this company without researching all available options in your area.

#1. The contract states a rekey of up to 6 locks is covered after the "copay". It took several days for AHS to get back to me and after a 10 day waiting period for the appointment, the contractor cancelled at the appointment time and did not plan to offer future appointments. AHS could not find another vendor to do the work. I live in a well-populated area and many locksmiths are within the area. I hired a local reputable and licensed company and personally paid for the work.

#2. The spring on my garage door broke. I placed a request and the vendor cannot come out for two weeks. I spoke with AHS and they assigned another vendor only to find out that the vendor quit working with AHS over a year ago and has not accepted work orders but keeps receiving them. I called AHS again and they initially denied knowing this information then admitted that it was correct. Again, I am waiting for contact from dispatch if they find a vendor. Please, do yourself a favor and do not choose American Home Shield as your warranty company without checking reputable companies with a good vendor list in your area. Do your research and check reviews. I am going to cancel my contract and consider it an expensive and unfortunate lesson once again with American Home Shield. From my past and now current experiences, they have not changed their business practices.

I had an issue with the heat not working in the downstairs central air. Precision Engineering came out to handle the repair and did a good job. They showed up a day or two later, which I thought was good compared to waiting a week sometimes. They were able to take care of the issue the same day as the initial visit.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for years and have found them to be good and competent in what they are doing. Originally, it only cost me about $60 or $70, but I briefly switched to Choice for about four or five months and found out that I didn’t like them. I went back to American Home Shield, and now I’m paying $125 for just the initial call, and my rates really jumped.

I’ve had some issues with the toilet and have had plumbers out several times through American Home Shield. Sometimes they were able to fix it, and sometimes they weren’t. It’s a recurring problem, and right now it’s back to the way it was originally.

My hot water tank is in the garage, and I have a long house, so the water has to travel a long distance to reach the kitchen. When I turn on the hot water, it runs cold for about three to four minutes before it even gets warm. When I’m in the kitchen trying to wash dishes, I don’t want to wait several minutes to get hot water.

I called a company about 15 years ago, before I had American Home Shield. They installed a pump under my sink so I could turn it on before running the water. It worked, I got instant hot water. It recirculated the water and the cold water didn’t have to run first, and the hot water came through right away.

That worked for about four or five years, then the pump went bad and I had it replaced. It fixed the issue again for a while, but then suddenly I had nothing but hot water throughout the entire house. Every faucet, when you turned on cold, you got hot. I could live with it. At least I had hot water in the kitchen and I just needed to wait for it to cool down. But that was not a problem.

But when I called the plumber out the last time and mentioned that issue, he said he couldn’t do anything about it, and they wouldn’t replace the pump. So I was stuck again. He did fix the toilet, though it had a small drip and I could see the water constantly moving in the tank. He repaired that, and it’s fine now.

But once he fixed the toilet, I was back to waiting forever for hot water. t have to live with it. I’d like someone to remove the pump under my sink since it takes up a lot of space, but I’m not going to pay $100 or more to have someone come out and do that. There’s only so much I can spend, especially since this house cost me a fortune this past year. As far as American Home Shield goes, they’ve done their job.

I had them come out again to check my dryer. The technician looked at it and said it was probably over 25 years old and that parts wouldn’t be available because it’s too old. He suggested I use one of the other settings if I could live with it that way. I told him I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving it running. It cost me $100 to tell my appliance was too old to fix, that’s really my only complaint.

The technician came out a couple of times for my washer, and they couldn’t fix that either, at least I knew what the issue was. My washing machine is fine now, they’re just old. The technician said if I bought a new one, it probably wouldn’t be as good as my current dryer. He only had to look at the model number to say it couldn’t be repaired, which made me wonder why I had to spend $100 to be told it was too old to fix. At least he gave me an alternative, and that’s what I’ll have to go with.

It seems like they should have known from the start since I gave them the model number. They should’ve been able to tell me then that it couldn’t be fixed, especially since I said it was the timer on the dryer. That’s not American Home Shield’s fault, it’s the companies they send out that aren’t always upfront. With my refrigerator, they eventually resolved it and either replaced it or gave me money toward a new one, I can’t complain.

I canceled my American Home Shield membership because the process was very unacceptable. It takes the technicians to come out three times before they make a decision to replace it. I also had a prior experience where we had the issue with the dishwasher. Apparently, it has a piece of broken glass, and so that it couldn’t drain. They couldn’t repair it so I had to replace the unit out of my own pocket. I’m trying to cut out expenses so AHS is definitely not worth to keep.

They could’ve been better with their process. There’s a disconnect between the American Home Shield tech and the Sears tech. I don’t think they’re on the same page, nor do they see each other’s notes, or at least the Sears one. It’s almost like they have to start all over again when they come out, versus Home Shield, an opportunity with me showing what was the issue.

The only issue submitting claims with AHS is not understanding the customer service agent. They have foreign people work at the phones. They have a real accent from another country. That's the only problem I had in the past. But I don't have American Home Shield anymore. I canceled my warranty.

The AC company they sent out was good. But in the past, they sent out plumbing companies that weren't so good. I like the AC company they sent out better.

With AHS, I have had some good experience and some bad. It's good for some things, but It's not going to you with everything. Not everything is covered, so you're taking a gamble, paying a monthly fee.

We filed a claim with American Home Shield for a hot water heater that went out, and when I was being walked through what our plan would cover, the representative told me that if my heater goes out, they will cover it. I just have to pay the service call fee of $100, and I’ll get a new hot water heater.

So the heater went out. The contractor came and said that it's not up to code, therefore it’s not covered. I had no clue what that meant. They said it’s in the terms and conditions, and no one had ever explained that to me, so that’s extremely frustrating.

It takes away the point of a home warranty. It’s something I will never buy again. Once the one year term is up, I won’t extend. They should walk me through every single type of term and condition before purchase. An example of how those words may not be clear to the average Joe can impact a certain claim.

American Home Shield does a poor job with coverage. On A/C claim, their first contractor was no contact, no show. Second contractor failed to diagnose and correctly repair unit. The repair lasted less than 7 days. American Home Shield did not warrant the failed repair work and instead offered me the option to Pay $1500 in repairs or buy a new A/C unit for $3500-$5000, depending on the unit selected. They also offered $366 as cash-in-lieu of repair. None of those options made any sense to me in light of the $1800 I paid in premiums or service call fees. Still hoping for a suitable resolution. They are not very responsive. Perhaps my State Attorney General's office will be able to look into their denial in coverages.

American Home Shield is an okay company. Sometimes, they're very good. But sometimes, they're not so good. They're not consistent in their services. Sometimes, they have good contractors. Sometimes, they have awful contractors. So I'm happy once, and the next time, I'm not happy.

When the water heater was leaking, I shut it off and called American Home. I went on the website and I said problem with water heater. The contractor said they would need to talk to American Home Shield and see what are the extra costs. It took him a couple of days to come back to me. He said it was gonna cost over $1,000 that I have to pay out of my pocket. So I called American Home Shield and complained about it. They said, "This is it." So I said fine, and they started the process.

I had an issue with the contractor that they came in to fix my air handling unit. It was not creating heat, and they said there was something wrong with it that they couldn’t fix. Somebody else came in and they said, "No. You need to replace this." So I let it go. Next time that I had my air conditioning not working, the same guy came in, went up there, and fixed it in five minutes. He said the problem was that the gas was turned off in the attic. These things bothered me.

We had plugs in our house that were not working. We called the lady at American Home Shield and she was great and wonderful. Their response time wasn’t that long and took them around three or four days. However, the technician took a long time to figure out what the problem was. He had to go up in the attic, but we just moved in so we didn’t really know how to access the attic really well. He figured it out though and was there for over an hour trying to figure out the problem. But once he did, he was able to fix it.

We’ve had a good experience so far and we’ve been very satisfied. Everybody that we’ve talked to has been super easy to work with. We got AHS when we moved in. It came with the house and the people we bought the house from paid for it as a gift. We requested it because it’s an older house. We thought everything was gonna be working, but you never know. We would recommend AHS for sure, especially if you’re buying a new house.

It was horrible with A+ Maintenance. They were horrible because they said no one lived in the house, which was incorrect. They also said something about old food being there, and I don’t know how they came up with that. I inherited the house, and when I moved in, I had to clean out a lot of things. It really upset me that they put that in their report.

A+ Maintenance came out to check the appliances, but they reported that nobody lived in the house. Because of that, they gave American Home Shield a bad report, and the warranty ended up denying the claim.

I reached out to American Home Shield, but I got nowhere with it, so I canceled my policy. I asked them to either refund all the money I had paid or at least refund 50%. In the end, I told them I would just take care of it myself and pay for everything out of my own pocket.

I had the same problem with American Home Shield at my previous residence in Georgia before I moved to Alabama. I’ve been a customer for about four years. I had one address in Georgia for three years, and I’ve had this place in Alabama for over a year.

They said they couldn’t give a refund. I’ve been trying to get in touch with a supervisor in the escalation department, but I’ve been given the runaround. I told them I’m going through arbitration before I turn this over to my attorney, which is what my attorney advised me to do.

I’m not sure if they ever closed out A+ Maintenance. They kept sending me emails asking me to click something to leave a positive review. I never clicked on the link or responded to those emails.

As far as I know, the warranty should already be canceled, or at least inactive. There might be a window to reactivate it if things get squared away with American Home Shield. But I don’t want to keep paying for something where, when I actually need help, I can’t get compensated or even get assistance.

When I file a claim, American Home Shield schedules it right away. The last technician was a responsible young man, and completed the job in a timely manner. It's convenient to have American Home Shield. When a problem occurs, it's good to be able to call and just have it taken care of. However, the inconvenience might come in when I have to pay the service fee for them to come out and no work is done.

The same thing happened right before Christmas with my refrigerator which had rust on it. They came out and told me that the old refrigerator was working just fine, and the rust was just cosmetic, so it would not be covered. But if I want it covered, I could pay an additional fee.

I have two AC units, but my plan only covers one. They should cover both units. Whichever one goes out, they should come and fix it because I have their warranty. That's the same thing with the heating, so I try to remember which one is covered by the warranty.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a long time now, around 10 years. My overall experience with them is not something to brag about because I have taken them to consumer advocacy twice. And like anything else, you don't start filing complaints on the first bump on the road. You go through quite a few, then you say, “Okay. I've had it.”

American Home Shield is notorious for not honoring services as long as the equipment is still running. My first problem with American Home Shield was maybe five years ago. I have a detached garage with no windows, and I have a wall AC unit. The AC finally went out after 15 years so I called American Home Shield. The service tech came. They looked at it. And I wasn't home. And they said it's not covered because it's a window unit. So I called American Home Shield personally. I told them that it was a wall unit and that they needed to send someone else to check it. So I paid for that service for the second opinion. The guy came and said it's a window unit. So the 3rd time, I gave up. I took it to the consumer advocacy. Then they finally sent one guy. And I made sure I'm there, because I work out of town. The guy looked at it and confirmed it’s a wall unit so they ended up fixing it.

They have either unqualified contractors or the operators at Home Shield are trained to reject the claim in the hopes of 70% of the customers will follow suit that it’s not qualified.

I asked for my money back because when there's a second opinion, the customer has to pay for it. I never got paid and let it go. A few years forward, my dryer started squeaking. And it's a very expensive LG dryer. So we called and somebody came. They looked at it and like always, I'm not in town. They told my wife there's no mechanical failure, so they turned it down. Then I told my wife to wait for the squeak to get worse so we waited. She called again. Long story short, we called three times for the past 18 months.

I lost my job so I'm in town. I called American Home Shield and told them that mechanical failure doesn't necessarily mean that if the dryer doesn't spin, it's failed. There's a squeak. Squeak is a prelude to breaking apart. This is in the verge of breaking apart and they need to come and look at it. There are bearings inside. And I'm a mechanical engineer and there are bearings inside that were done and need to be replaced.

I told them they need to bring a qualified technician. They said I have to pay for it and I told them I'm done paying because I paid them three times already. And that I'm just going to turn this in to the consumer advocacy.

And then somebody else called, and this person was native English-speaking person. She tried to stop me from doing it. I told her every month, I pay them what we agreed I will pay for them to provide me protection. And when it comes down to providing any protection, they’re finding excuses. I asked her to provide a copy of the report about the claim.

When I'm getting on my portal, I can only go back nine months. And when I'm looking at the service calls that we placed for the dryer, it doesn't tell me what the complaint was, as in what we reported is defective. It doesn't say what the prognosis are. It doesn't say what corrective actions they took. It just shows when the call was received and when it was closed. They can’t show me the details of calls given about the squeaky dryer.

She told me they will mail it but to this date, I don't have it, and that was 3 weeks ago. I turned it in to the consumer advocacy and they got involved. The representative of AHS cited the same thing. “Our policy doesn't cover no mechanical failures.” And I asked her to show me where it says in the contract.

They said the reason the claim was denied was because I denied giving access to a technician to come and look at it. I said that they're not telling you the truth. It's only half the story. I said that I will not pay for a 4th person to come and look at it. They conceded. They brought somebody from the valley. This gentleman came and took the machine apart.

Long story short, he ended up changing 4 rollers. And in his report, it states that the rollers were cracked so he replaced them. It went away. It worked good for two days, and then some different squeak came back. I called them. We got it documented, and they came and replaced two more parts, which is acceptable. It's been a week and it's been working just fine.

So American Home Shield reported case is done. I'm having some lifetime challenges on my health. The consumer advocacy will assume the case closed if you don't respond within 7 days.

I called the consumer advocacy and spoke with a lady. I told her it’s been ten days but I was having health issues so I was not in front of my computer all the time, but this is not closed. They still owe me money for services we paid for callbacks to get erroneous reporting, and they still owe me where it says no mechanical failure is excluded. And so they reopened the case. I wrote another letter, and I believe there's a response from them. I'm yet to open up that email to see what it is.

I'm very dissatisfied. Dissatisfied is not the word I should use. What I'm concerned with is how many people these guys are abusing and taking advantage of people's naiveness, so that they’ll just pay the contractor to fix it because American Home Shield is not gonna pay for it. I'm just tired of them doing that. It's scary how many people they play this game with.

    Good afternoon, Vachik,

Thank you for your feedback. I briefly reviewed your service requests, and appreciate you being a valued warranty member for twelve (12) years. It looks like you have had many successful work orders that were serviced with no issues. I apologize for the few that did not go as well as AHS would have expected them to. The workorder concerning the window versus wall HVAC unit appears to be back in 2020, which is a little too far back for me to go, and it looks like that was resolved, but I do apologize for the misunderstandings in that situation. I do see the work order for the dryer that is a current work order, and I have created a research on that work order, so that I can address you privately and assist with that work order, and make sure any repairs hold up. Again, thank you for your feedback, so that we can serve you better, and thank you for being a long time and valued warranty member with American Home Shield.

Sometimes, the vent drips and has condensation. He didn’t do that, and he was probably just told to check where he was told to check. I talked to somebody, and the guy said we needed some kind of receipt. We don't have that. I haven't been able to get back with them.

I also had a little bit of problem with American Home Shield last year. They do good and send people over, but the problem is they’re bringing people from places that are over an hour away from us. It would be better if they let us hire somebody to come and do the job.

I’ve had American Home Shield for more than a year. I filed a claim and it took around three days to send the contractor. Fast Response Heating & Cooling came out because my heat stopped working. It ended up being a igniter, but also the limit switch kept going off. So the heater was overheating also. The technician managed to replace the igniter and increase the blower speed.

The contractor sent out by AHS did a great job. I'm very happy with the service. There's one thing I question, though. When he was here and I signed, it said $125 for the home visit. But then when I got a receipt from Home Shield on my email, it said $175. They should bill me the same amount that I signed for. Instead of 125, they billed me 175. It would be nice if they could refund that to me.

But he technician was very, very helpful. In fact, he put me on the very end of his shift because I’m far away from where he lives. And he worked an extra couple hours just to come here and do my machine. So, I'm very happy with him.

I've had American Home Shield for almost three years and I've used it twice. The first time was a replacement of refrigerator when I moved into the home and that went great. They recently had a contractor sent out for my washing machine. It wasn't spinning very well and it was noisy.

They came out and, after inspecting the machine, they suggested to just get a new washer due to the high cost for repair. So the process with the home warranty and getting the replacement was easy. It's just with their third party that did the installation that I've been having issues with. They can't hook up the dryer. They keep telling me I need different pieces and that is not true. Besides that, working with American Home Shield has been very seamless.

I had a feeling that the pipes probably hadn’t been cleaned out in a long time because I was getting a bit of a backup. It wasn’t critical or anything.

The contractor was able to snake it out, and he said that there was a bit in there that needed to be cleaned. He was very prompt and a good guy. He cleaned up after himself. He needed a towel, which was fine, and he rolled up the carpet and everything. I’ve had two visits with AHS. So far, it’s worked out well.

I was initially told it was lint. And then the whole basement flooded. So, they came back out and told me that it was the way that the pipes are laid out and there's nothing they can do. I contacted American Home Shield for a second opinion.

When I called them for the second time, they set me up with the same company. They came out and they told me there wasn't really much I could do. And then they gave me a quote for like $7,500.

The only thing that was frustrating for me was that the first provider called me maybe once. And then, I guess they listed me as not being able to reach. My doorbell's not fixed necessarily, so I didn't hear the call when somebody came out.

They said that the job was done, but they did come right back out afterwards. I wasn't super impressed with the customer service in the first place, but they got the job done.

I called American Home Shield because my toilet was leaking in my small bathroom. In the big bathroom, my grandson tried to put my sink on, but he messed up the pipe, so we couldn’t take it off. I figured somebody stronger could take it off.

The contractor came, and he was very courteous and nice. He showed me what I did wrong because I put the toilet tank myself. He let me know that I put the bolt on upside down, and that my sink in the small bathroom didn’t have a pipe on it. The toilet in the big bathroom has a bottom seal that keeps the smell from coming up, and he said the bolts were off. He had to get the approval from the company to fix all of that.

The only thing he fixed was the tank. He put the screws in it right side up. It’s perfect. He couldn’t fix everything else because they didn’t give me the approval to have it done. He said that the bolt on the toilet was missing and my tank didn’t have the pipe on it. If I had known they couldn’t provide that, I would have been happy to get it because I had everything. But I didn’t know until he got there. They sent me an email that only the toilet that he repaired was covered.

I’m getting older, and I can’t do what I used to do. Back in my day, I did everything for myself. If it’s something that I couldn’t do, I hire somebody.

I’m paying monthly, then I have to pay again when the contractor gets here. I read in the contract that each time they come out I had to pay $125. The representative told me that he would not charge me. But I went on and he had taken it anyway.

I would tell a friend or a family member to go somewhere else or check it out very closely and see what American Home Shield will do and not do. When people give me their words they’re going to do something, they’re gonna do it. Once I lose my trust, it’s not going back.

I don’t want them anymore. I’m not very satisfied with American Home Shield’s service.

We had a recent claim with American Home Shield for the washing machine. Sears said they were going to come out and they didn’t come out four times. I called and was very upset with them. I don’t know what’s going on. I kept calling AHS, and they said they could change the service company.

I really like Sears, the way they do their work. I have gotten really good service. AHS had this other contractor, and I didn’t get good service from them, but they keep coming back out. Finally, Sears came in and fixed the problem with my microwave one time. But as far as this service with the washing machine, it was pretty bad.

AHS called Sears, and Sears said somebody cancelled the service, and they don’t know who did it. It just shows that it was cancelled. Somebody dropped the ball on it, apparently. They did not tell anybody that it was cancelled. I wonder how it can be cancelled when I’ve been calling about why they are not coming out. They had taken $100 out already, but then they cancelled it. I didn’t understand that.

I have two homes under them. I have put a claim on my dryer because it was making a lot of noise, and the washing machine from my son’s house was not working. I opened two claims. So I don't know if that was an issue because they had the same phone number, and that’s what I kept trying to ask them, and they said no.

I don’t know what happened, but it was horrible. It was almost a month before we could get it fixed. My son's wife was without a washing machine, where she had to go to the laundromat and wash. She also did a little washing here at my house. She’s got three kids, and then her husband works. I was pretty upset about that.

She just said it’s just too much. That was a big issue there. I was very unhappy with the service for that. As for my dryer, everything went the way they said it was going to be. There’s times it’s just that I can’t get things done through them.

The customer service gives you what you want to hear, but it doesn’t follow through. It falls through the cracks. They're fine, but it'd be nice if they could follow through with the claim to make sure it's being addressed and getting it done, instead of answering the phone, just taking notes, and throwing it to the side. They should close it out, not the serviceman.

I have been with American Home Shield for three years because it was a good price, and all of a sudden, it got hiked up even higher. They hike everything back up if you use them. It's like a bad thing to use them. I just used them this one time, and now I’m paying almost $30 more.

When they hike up, they don’t hike up a little. For example, if I was paying $69, they went up to $117. I guess I’m paying back for what they did for me. I don't get it. I only use them if I need to, and my appliances were almost new. I just did it for my protection.

But I like them. I like the protection that if something breaks down, they come out. I don't have to pay $100 just for them to come out. Then the parts, another $300 and all that good stuff. I like the service and peace of mind.

I had an issue with my oven display quitting, so I set up a request online through American Home Shield, including a picture of the malfunctioning display. They responded with initial troubleshooting within a couple of days, and then they had to wait for parts to arrive, which took the better part of a week. During that time, they told me to go ahead and schedule and gave me an option to pick a date and time, and within a couple of days, the technician came out and fixed it.

I’ve had AHS off and on for years. My last house purchase included it in the agreement, and when I sold that house, I offered the coverage to the buyers. Then, two years ago, when we bought our current house, the seller agreed to put it on our house, and I’ve since extended the contract for an extra year.

I would definitely recommend American Home Shield for a new purchase because you don’t know the condition of the house, the appliances, the roof, or the plumbing. They’ve taken care of me every time I’ve needed them.

I went online and set up the request for service. We were not getting hot water in one of our bathrooms. We just needed them to take a look at the water heater to make sure it was okay. They were responsive right away. American Home Shield turned around and told me who the company was that was going to be making the service call. It was a couple of days. They scheduled it and told me when they were gonna do it. They showed up ahead of time, which I wasn't ready for. But they came back at the appointed time. They looked at the problem. They figured out a few different things. Fortunately, I had a spare part in my garage that fit that particular thing. And they were able to install it. The first time they tried it, it wasn't working. But then the plumber turned around and tried a different method. And it worked. They were able to fix the problem. Fortunately, it wasn't an emergency situation, so that was the good part about it. I was a little hesitant at first. Because it wasn't an emergency situation, and it turned out that they were able to respond within a day or two.
Once I had a bad leak, I needed somebody right away to come in and try to repair the problem. And they couldn't deliver or get somebody to come. They literally told me it was gonna be a week. Obviously, I can't go a week without water in the house. And so I was not very happy. But I decided I'll stick with them anyway, just in case. It was a one-shot deal. It did cost me at the time. And that's where I really thought, “Is this really worth it or not?” So back then, I almost really considered canceling it because I'm paying this money. I've only used them twice. But the one time that I really needed them right then and there, they couldn't deliver on what I needed.

That's where my concern with American Home Shield is, whether they would be able to respond in a timely manner to be able to fix the problem that I have. And I would have thought that the whole purpose of this was that if something broke that was critical, they'd be able to provide me with the service that I need right then and there. That’s what I would have assumed that it was about, how this is supposed to work. But I've only had that one experience. That one incident really disappointed me. I would hope that if there was any consolation to that, they would improve that aspect of what they're doing. I originally bought it when we got the house. And the time when it ended—fortunately, I didn't have to use it during the initial period that I got it. I really considered not following through with it, but maybe I should stick to it.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for a couple of years and they've always been great. We’ve had a few issues with appliances and other stuff in our house. With them, it’s a simple and easy process and they take care of it. We had a leak in our bathroom and High Priority Plumbing came by to fix it. Their technician went above and beyond. Overall, AHS is reliable and saves us a lot of money.

American Home Shield sent a technician out to fix our pool. It was an excellent experience. I don't really have anything bad to say. I normally send the request through the app. It is within 24 hours before someone calls and lets us know when we can expect them to come. They were here on time and got everything that we needed done. We were very satisfied. I told my parents about them and they were signing up this weekend for it.

Filing a claim was a very simple process. The technicians came and replaced the capacitor board on an air conditioner. I had no issues.

About four years ago, there were all kinds of communication problems with the representatives. Myself and the vendors had trouble understanding the AHS staff. But since then, there’s been a very big positive change, and I’m really glad to see that.

I had an issue with the hot water tank, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone, and I found the process to be easy. I really enjoyed working with McKean Plumbing. They were very responsive. I am not a trusting person. I think all contractors are shady. I’m a landlord, and I have AHS through another, so I deal with contractors all the time.

This particular contractor was very responsive. He returned my calls right away, was punctual, and came over when he said he would. I have even kept them in my notes as a future reference of someone that I would call back. He was really good.

What I like about American Home Shield is the minimum wait time on the phone to get an agent. Normally, I was able to get a person within a couple of minutes. Even though the automated system said my wait time would be up to 10, it was never that long. I made multiple calls, and it was always under 5 minutes, which was great.

Since this is my first claim, I did notice a slight language barrier that I had to kind of navigate through. I know they outsource a lot of these to call centers. Every time I called, they were extremely nice, but it would be helpful if there were a few more American-speaking people.

I used them before at another place. I had one guy come over to snake out my drain and pull out a couple of little tree roots. At the end of the day, I love the fact that he walked out, and I didn’t give him a dime. Everything was paid for. I felt I could have done what he did.

But I’m paying a monthly payment to Home Shield, so I said I’m going to call and use them. So it was fine. I got the service done for free, but I almost could have paid $300 to someone else. I feel like once they get a contractor and sign up with Home Shield, there's no way to monitor what some of these people are doing.

They’re coming over and doing the least, but their money stays the same. I feel like they need to be accountable. AHS needs to make sure they’re doing what they say they’re doing, because they’re going to come over, spend 20 minutes, walk out the door, and they’re going to call Home Shield and say, “I’m done. Send me my money.”

In terms of the price, there were a lot of things I had to pay. I still have to pay out-of-pocket. I got a hot water tank, but I still have to pay $500 for non-included items, but it was still less than that. So, I got to watch that little fine print and make sure I know exactly what I’m getting. I like to use Home Shield for major things that are really broken that’s going to cost me a lot of money out of pocket.

The ice maker on our LG Knock Knock is not working. So, I submitted a claim through the online app, and American Home Shield sent Authorized Service out. They’ve come out three times, replaced parts three times, and it’s still not working. So, it’s not an unsatisfactory experience with Authorized Services because he is trying to troubleshoot, but it’s just not working.

The guy has done everything that he can. And I understand they wanna do their due diligence in making sure that it can’t be fixed. But I think we’re just beating a dead horse, because it’s been three weeks to a month now. I understand the reasoning behind it, but things need to move more quickly.

And their online service kept putting me in a loop. It wouldn’t give me the exact thing that I needed. So, after the first visit from Authorized Service, it didn’t work. The guy said to give it 24 to 48 hours. I gave it 48 hours, and it still didn’t work. And then I received a notification from American Home Shield that the ticket was closed. And we called back Authorized Services and said that it’s still not working, and they said that I need to go back to American Home Shield. AHS did not have anything on their prompt to say if you need to reopen a ticket. So, I kept getting in a loop on their dial thing, and it took a while to find the right place to go to.

We had AHS for years, and then we broke up. I dated around, and then I came back. We’ve been in our house for almost 20 years.

But honestly, AHS is easy to work with. We’ve had some past experiences where we had to actually find our own resources, but that wasn’t enough to deter me from going back to them or sticking with them. But overall, it’s been an easy process. Their price feels pricey since we don’t have a lot of tickets, but for this particular incident, it may turn out that it’s worth it.

    I wasn’t that impressed. They’re not a 5-star deal.

There was a leaking drain in an upstairs bathroom sink, so the technician told me he would replace the drain mechanism. After he left, I went upstairs to see the sink, and this big black plastic replacement drain that he put into the chrome pipes under the sink was totally visible.

I did not ask him to show me what he had done before he left, so that was my fault, and I can’t blame them for it. I did send pictures to Emergency Plumbing & Rooter and also reached out to American Home Shield, and it was the technician’s manager who said it was fixed and that it doesn’t matter about the aesthetics.

I had them come out for other plumbing issues. The water in our clothes washer backs up out of the hose when we do the laundry, and we figured that there’s a block somewhere. The tech said the P-trap was under the floor and should be above the clean-out, but he didn’t want to mess with it because we have old pipes. We were gonna get the house repiped anyway, so I said that was fine.

I also had a leaking toilet. My husband thought the wax ring needed to be replaced, but the tech said it’s a loose tank. He tightened only one of the screws, so the tank is now a little crooked. He also tightened a loose handle on one of my faucets.

For my dishwasher, I can’t put the little pod into the door because the lid won’t close and hold it there. The control panel at the top has a little piece of it missing and another part that looks worn. American Home Shield argued with me and determined that it was all physical damage, not wear and tear. I let it go because the washer is 24 years old, and it still works.

I’m not a picky guy who calls for every little thing, and the one time I do call, they should have covered it and they didn’t. I would absolutely not recommend it to anybody.

I had two appliances that had issues and didn’t get a positive resolution. One appliance was my washing machine, which had a leak and was making a sound. The other one was the oven with malfunctioning digital controls.

American Home Shield does cover regular wear and tear, but when the guys came out, they looked at everything and said both will not be covered because the washer broke due to overloading and the oven was badly handled.

The strange thing is the washer was a high-end Speed Queen for industrial use and the only way to overload it is by putting rocks in. It wasn’t new nor old, but those machines should last 20 years.

I did call back American Home Shield and they sent out another person to look at it, but I ended up buying another dryer and throwing that one out.

As for my cooktop, the guy said one thing when he was here, and then on his report, he said another. Something’s changed in the company because the way that they handled both claims seemed like they didn’t want to take responsibility of that. This could have been an easy, inexpensive fix, and they would have kept a happy customer.

It’s actually the second time they came out. The first time I used their service about a year and a half ago, it was okay. It wasn’t great and took a long time and a lot of phone calls. This time I told them I would be canceling my service.

If they would have held up what the agreement is, then I think the price would be very reasonable, but considering that they held up on nothing, even $10 is expensive if its $0 return. At least they answer all the time. I get an answering service in India or one of those, but they can’t really assess and/or help. The call center, they have yes and no questions, and then they go down the line and whatever the answer on the bottom is, it is that. I still would like somebody to explain to me how an industrial washer that is within its lifetime can be overloaded.

But if American Home Shield will do that for me, and they have some people I trust, it makes life a little easier. I'd rather pay them to do it. They also dispatch good contractors. We like that they help us manage our multiple properties.

However, we could all be a little more efficient and maybe they could have more English-speaking people. They do about as well as the rest of them. However, when I have an issue and call them, I get somebody reading a script. When the problem is not on their script, then it becomes a challenge. Their monthly prices also keep going up. Overall, I still think they're probably the best home warranty company you can find and a great help to manage properties.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield because I had some heating issues. It took a week for the contractor to get scheduled to come out. When they came, they had to order parts and come back. Everything’s functioning now like it should be.

My experience was not bad. The only negative I can say is that the call center is full of foreigners, and I don’t know exactly where they’re from. At times, they’re very difficult to understand and have to repeat themselves quite often for me to get what they’re saying. I also think that their deductible is a little bit high in comparison.

AHS has been good. I don’t always care for the companies that they employ. I’ve had issues, like when I called in for a dishwasher repair. That particular company really screwed me over. I was extremely mad at them, and I was going to go out, give them my two cents, and they got on the ball right after that.

They did the repair, but the repair was not satisfactory. My machine was still damaged, and I just didn’t want to go through the process again for another repair and deductible. So I just pulled that dishwasher out and bought a new one.

They have done nothing but take our premiums and service fees. They wouldn’t even replace a $20 part for the microwave and instead the technician “cleaned” the old part and two weeks later sparks flew again. We bought the $20 part ourselves on Amazon and no problem since but paid $125 for the first service call. Next was the dishwasher. Said it was fixed and put back and was going to leave and I asked why water was still leaking from the bottom. Oh I didn’t mop it up sorry. Mops it up. Still leaking and he had to open it all up again and suddenly found a broken part. Wow. Now my oven door shattered after I used the broiler. All I did was open the door and turned around to grab something and I heard a pop like a rock hitting your windshield. I looked back and the door was completely cracked.

AHS sent someone out who said he’d try to get them to cover it. Nope - they said it was user error and something dropped on it. Uh no! We called and complained and they sent another company out. The guy ordered a new oven door but AHS denied it again. So now we are out the service fees and the door is still cracked. We could have just replaced the door ourselves. Silly us to think our insurance coverage would cover repairs. Canceling and never ever doing business with them again. Better to put the premium money into your own emergency fund instead.

I had a washing machine problem and the contractor from AHS had to replace some parts.

I learned the hard way, when my water heater had a problem, that if I go online and have a situation that's pretty dire, I can't express that online. Once I submit a ticket, that's it. They can't change anything about it.

It took two weeks to get hot water. It was horrible. They wouldn't do anything to expedite it or to escalate it or to change anything about it. They wouldn't even let me retract it and resubmit it as one of these emergency tickets. So, I only call now so that I can talk to a person and tell them specifically how urgent it is and hope that they do something to help me out. It's not just the hot water heater.

There was another issue too, where I had a water leak and they wouldn't come look at it for a week. I had water leaking for a week and they would not expedite. They said because I had submitted the ticket online, that they could not create any sense of urgency about it because the ticket already existed and it didn't express the urgency of it, even though the ticket did say it was a water leak. There's water gushing out. I turned the water off to my house to stop it. And so, I had no water in my house for 10 days. It was a very long time. And they did nothing to try to expedite that. It was horrible.

The washing machine thing wasn't as big a deal because I just had to go down to the laundromat to do my laundry. And that got done in a pretty reasonable time. It took about a week. But when you don't have hot water or you don't have water, those are urgent situations. And they handled that really poorly. So, I learned that if you do submit a ticket online -- which they had recommended that I do, every time I call in to submit a ticket, they recommend that I do it online. And I have to tell them I've gotten burned twice doing that.

I hate that I have to deal with AHS. They don't care about their customers at all. They're the worst. And they've been so horrible to deal with that I would just go get another company. But I haven't. I'm just hoping I don't have to use them again.

The quality of work is good and the price is competitive, but I did have one experience with a plumber that was not good. They should never recommended that particular plumber. He came in and broke the water line when he was trying to fix it. That was crazy. And then he had to fix that and he left a huge mess. I try not to get into it with them too much, because the couple times that I had a real serious problem and I tried to escalate it, they will not escalate problems. They'll do anything in their power to shut you up and have you just accept whatever's happening. It's crazy how bad they are.

American Home Shield covers the parts and labor, but not the gas, so they’re good value within limits.

The air-conditioning unit that I had Efficient Air Systems come out for was not operating on the heat pump. It was only doing emergency heat.

I reached out to AHS online. The website is pretty intuitive. It took me a little while to get familiar with it and to go around, but everything was readily available once I looked around. I didn’t need to call anybody and didn’t have any questions. It was all good. They got back within 24 hours.

The gentleman who did the initial troubleshooting said the control board was the problem, and he verified that the pressures and charge on the system were all good. But the quote from American Home Shield I got was for the control board, as well as for 2 lbs. of gas that I didn’t need.

I told AHS and Efficient Air, and the lady from Efficient Air said she will investigate. I never heard from her again, but the tech did show up and installed the board, but did not put in any gas. He checked the pressures, and everything was good.

AHS is gonna save money in most instances, but not all. Be aware of what those limitations are. I didn’t pay for it. We bought the house and the sellers paid for it, but if I were paying for it out of pocket, I would rate it a good solid B.

I wouldn’t recommend American Home Shield to anybody. I’ve had times where it was awesome, like that time a bathtub was stopped up. But in my 12 years with them, one experience put them at the bottom of the barrel because it took three months, and they didn’t resolve the case.

I had an electrical outage and put the claim in on Jan. 7. I called AHS and they sent down a guy, who arrived later than the window he said he would. He looked at it and said it wasn’t something that could be fixed right away, and that he was gonna come back to do a real diagnosis. We rescheduled, and again he was late. He hung around, looking outside, taking the light fixture down and doing a few things, then said he was going to get somebody to help him.

I called American Home Shield and they contacted him, but he never showed up for the next three rescheduled dates. I asked them to get somebody else but AHS said they can’t until he submits the paperwork of what his diagnosis is.

By March 7th, I’m pleading. Somebody finally agreed to send somebody else out, but that contractor did less than what the other guy did. He said the house needed rewiring and that he was going to send it back in to get that approved. I gave it about four days. By the time the lady I talked to said I had to call a number to get that work approved, I asked them to cancel my service.

I ended up calling an electrical company to come out to my house, and they charged me $225. All he did was go upstairs and reconnect a line in the attic where a squirrel had gotten to it, and I had power. With AHS, I spent $500 in three months, with no lights to use.

To this day, we don't have a working washer. It just shuts off mid-cycle. And the last time the contractor was out here, he told me to try and use it to fix with a 50/50 shot, and that it would work or that it wouldn't work.

I tried it as soon as he left, and it still shut off mid-cycle. It wouldn't drain out from the bottom of the washer. I called him back and he said, "Well, I don't have an answer right now. I'll have to do some research and give you a call back hopefully tomorrow. But if not tomorrow, then hopefully, Monday." I’m still without a washer.

I spoke to AHS this morning and they said that they reached out to the contractor and that he's supposed to be calling the manufacturer of the washer to see why they would be getting this, but it's just been a very long, drawn-out process. Every other claim has been very good. Good contractors. Open and closed out very easily with fixes.

I bought a new stove, and every time I turned the oven on, it would knock the switches off for two or three days. American Home Shield sent out a technician, and when he came, he told us that the switches they put in our new house were the cheapest kind, which is why they kept knocking off. He replaced three of them, and I haven’t had any problems since.

The technician was very friendly, professional, and knew what he was doing. Overall, having a home warranty is good, and it’s something that I should have had a long time ago.

And then they said they were gonna talk to American Home Shield about what was covered and what was not. After I approved what American Home Shield told me I had to pay, they came out again and fixed it that same day. I got the vents and shingles replaced. American Home Shield is a little bit expensive, but I think it's worth it. There's peace of mind.

We've been with American Home Shield for about 20 years. Every now and then, we get somebody who I don't like the service that they give. But for the most part, they're good.

Some of them apply more common sense when it comes to fixing something. An example is when our faucet in the kitchen broke. It was not anything that was normal wear and tear, and they didn't want to pay for it. I explained that the faucet is 15 years old and I did not intentionally break it. AHS sent another contractor for a second opinion. And he said he can get it fixed.

The last contractor was Phillips Good AC and Heating and I was happy with them. They did a really good job. They took care of my AC. They've had a couple of people come through the job for them. They were sharp, professional, courteous, and cleaned up after themselves.

Our hot water heater was working, but the water capacity was reduced so it wouldn't fill a bathtub. You could shower effectively, but you could not fill the bathtub. So, my husband went online and submitted the claim and then they called. He explained the issue. When the workmen from Murray's Plumbing and Heating got there, they suggested a $400 repair. It wasn't necessarily going to fix the problem because it was a water capacity issue, not a water heating issue.

So, we went outside American Home Shield, and got an independent opinion. And he said that the silt in the water heater was so much. That's what was creating the capacity issue. We ended up spending more and putting in a new water heater. But the $400 that they wanted to charge us for a repair, we could at least put towards a new water heater versus a repair that wasn't going to correct the issue.

I called American Home Shield and told them that the requested repair didn't make sense and we had an independent plumber come out. And that it was verified that it's a capacity issue, not a heating issue–it was the age of the water heater. And although it heated still, there was so much silt or buildup in the bottom of the water heater.

The other claim was for the dishwasher repair. It was less of a waste of money and more of a waste of time. The guy came out and told us to replace our dish detergent, so we replaced it. But it didn't correct the problem. We had to call them back out again. And we requested someone different. The person identified the problem immediately and ordered the parts. However, it added another three weeks on to our downtime of our dishwasher.

He replaced parts–the dishwasher seal and the spinning thing on the bottom that shoots the water. So, the second time they came out, it corrected the problem.

The contractors are very responsive–usually within 24 to 48 hours. Except for this instance. If the guy had come and identified the issue correctly on the dishwasher, we would have had two weeks of downtime versus having to call again, bring someone out, and then have the two-week part-time and then calling to schedule, to tell them that we have received the parts so they can schedule the visit.

We have AHS in Colorado. And we had excellent vendors that came out. So, when we moved here, we waited a year because of financial priorities. We had replaced all the appliances and decided that we should have the same warranty to reduce the unexpected cost. However I think there is a difference regionally in who their contracted parties are. Either we got lucky in Colorado and had exceptionally good vendors or it’s just we had a run of bad luck on plumbers here.

The coverage of AHS is good however the vendor selection could be improved. It could just be the two that we had. Because there were more plumbing issues versus something else. And it was interesting that they gave us two different vendors for plumbing issues. There should be consistency in assigning one vendor to an account.

If our experience with American Home Shield weren't good, I would have canceled. The contractors are sometimes less than knowledgeable. But they've been fine.

Never mind the appliances. You could pay for your own appliances. But for the home one, no." I love Home Shield. For all the big stuff, it works 100%. It's very convenient.

For my plumbing issue, the plumber came out late. He stayed from 8:45 to 10 o'clock. The only thing that sucks is when I called, I had two bathrooms that I needed fixed, but when he came out, he was like, "No, we're only allocated for one." But he did help. He did fix both of them because he came late. So, it all worked out. It was great.

When I first called, I told American Home Shield that my fan was going in and out, and the evaporator coil up there might need to be replaced or cleaned because air wasn't coming in properly. So the guy from Royal Flush came. He checked outside, but never went up there. He automatically told me that it was a compressor and that was it.

I didn't get a bill handed or signed. So I looked at my email, and it said that it needed 14 pounds but the crazy part about it is that I just got my AC serviced the previous year. They were the same company that came out. That time, they told me that my AC was fine and they did what they needed to do on their part. They never said anything about my compressor. They said my Freon was good.

I called American Home Shield and told them something is not right and asked if I can get a second evaluation. They went ahead and got a 2nd evaluation. They told me that it was not the compressor, it was just a wire harness. It was a totally different evaluation. And these people went upstairs and checked the coil. The guy said that there was a little leak right out where the valve was, and that needed to be welded. It was just a small thing, but it was probably what was causing the air not to come through properly.

I didn't have to pay for the American Home Shield for the second visit because it was a totally different work order. The other guy who came through gave me a work order sheet, a piece of paper that told me what was needed. And I signed on it. Royal Flush didn't do that. The compressor was fine, but Royal Flush said I needed a completely new one, but that wasn't even the problem. It was just a wire harness that was burnt out.

AHS’s customer service is good. Their price went up a little bit more, but I've stayed with them. I like them.

I had a problem with the dishwasher door. It flopped open, that if I was standing in front of the dishwasher, the handle will hit the top of my foot and hurt my foot. We called American Home Shield, and they sent a gentleman out. When he got here, I told him not to open the door all the way. He actually did, and the door slammed down. Now I got a little indentation on my hardwood floor. That did not make me happy. He looked at it and saw that a clamp for one of the brackets in the back rear was not holding it in place.

He went to Home Depot and came back with a quarter-inch aluminum bar that he measured, cut, and anchored at a 45-degree angle and some sheet metal screws out. He put it on the bottom frame connected to a vertical bar. In short, he jury-rigged it instead of replacing that part. He was very nice and pleasant and, I’m assuming, knowledgeable. He tried to make do with the easiest, quickest, and cheapest solution and fixed it to where it doesn’t slap on the floor. But it’s not the way I felt that it should have been taken care of. He said American Home Shield doesn’t cover that. To me, that was part of their promo where they said, “If we can’t fix it, we’ll replace it.”

I’m assuming it’s fine now since no one’s complained. But when we first got it, we could open it up to 45, 50, or 60 degrees and it would stay there. Now, it does not flop anymore but it will still open to 90 degrees. It doesn’t open slowly or stay in a position. It’ll just continue to open until it’s open all the way.

I had another issue in January when I called about a dripping faucet on a deep tub. The faucet comes out of the wall, and it has a constant drip. The plumber didn’t have a key to take out the center core of the water handles, so he had to order that. It has to pass through about six different hands before they would get it. That means I’ve been waiting since January to get this fixed. I was getting ready to call American Home Shield and tell them that I want my money back and I’ll go get my own plumber.

Not too long ago, there was leaking by the hot water tank and I didn't know where it was coming from. It was such a small amount. It sprayed and slowly came out. The guy who came out was very friendly and professional, and I couldn't have had anybody nicer. He fixed it fast, too. He took the pipe and the shutoff valve was broken as well. He had to go into town to get that part. Also, every time he goes out of the house, he comes into the house and puts these little booties on his feet so nothing gets dirty. He had to turn the water off, which is clear out by the road. He was fantastic and I'll be very happy to have him come back again. I would recommend AHS.

The only funny thing was that I didn't know if they were coming. AHS said he'll be there. We had contact through text but it was a little obscure. I was thinking between 12:00 and 8:00 but I thought was a long time to know if Ohio Hydrojetting were actually coming. I had gone to the dentist and was thinking if they will really gonna show up, then the guy called and said, "I'll be there in half an hour. I'm almost there." I was really surprised. Also, it happened on a Saturday night and nobody would come on Sunday. I don't know what they can do about finding people on a Sunday. That’s impossible everywhere.

American Home Shield gives you the name of the contractor, but they don’t get into whether they are licensed, bonded, or insured, nor into experience or specialties. It’s just calling a plumber a plumber. Is it plumbers who do water heaters or electricians? There’s not nearly enough information.

For older appliances, it’s probably a worthwhile cost. I pay a fair price. I buy what I buy, and the service should live up to whatever the initial expenses are. I got an old home, and I’ve utilized their services.

The only issue that I ever have is the timeline for acquiring parts. That’s always a process because of the unknown origin from which the part is being ordered. Not to blame the technician, but the manufacturer. When Appliance Repair Guru came out for a refrigerator, it was a bad fan motor. The technician was very knowledgeable and a pleasant gentleman, and he explained what the process was and went to work. He put the new part in after one was ordered.

I submitted the claim through normal channels online, as I always have. As far as being intuitive, the site takes a bit of doing. It needs reading and paying attention to get through it.

I like their knowledge and affordability, and they seem to have adequate staffing. They’re very thorough like when I call to make an appointment, they would ask if I had anything else that I needed help with. The other company I was with for a much longer time didn’t do that. Each item had to be separated. So, I thought that that was efficient on their side and my side. Nobody wastes anybody’s time. Also, AHS says that if they cannot fix an issue, they will replace the problematic item. I have sold AHS to about five different people already. It’s an absolute necessity if you own a home.

I used the American Home Shield app to file a claim for the exhaust fans of my three bathrooms. However, there's no way I could input the three bathrooms on the app. I assumed that under one technician, all three bathrooms would be checked because it's the same type. I spoke to another person a couple of weeks ago, and I can't explain that there were three bathrooms with the same issue. Thirty minutes before the estimated arrival time of the technician, I called American Home Shield just to inform them of my three bathrooms. I didn't get a hold of anybody, so I left a voicemail

The technician came with his ladder that only went up a certain height. My ceilings happen to be high, so he actually had to stand on the highest step and it just felt dangerous. This guy wasn't very tall himself. But the ladder that he brought just showed that he actually was not completely prepared. In the end, he wasn’t able to fix the exhaust fan because there was a plastic object behind the electrical outlet, which nobody knew about.

When he was leaving, I told him that there's two more bathrooms to look at. But he said that the other two were not on the claim given to him. I told him about the app. He explained that he works with a lot of different warranty services, they only do whatever is on their file. He told me to call American Home Shield. I didn't have a good experience with him from the moment he showed up. I don't feel like he was prepared with his ladder and his unwillingness to work with me.

When I called back to explain the issue, the guy was understanding, and even acknowledged where the app went wrong. But I never had trouble reaching customer service except from the time I called before the technician came. Still they have good customer service, because they call back.

However, American Home Shield marked my claim as not normal wear and tear because of the plastic object that was behind there. I'm not a handyman, so there was no way I would have known that the reason why it wasn't working was because of that paper for that plastic thing. Since they've already listed it as unable to be fixed, they're not gonna come back for free. In order for them to come back, they wanted me to file a new ticket which costs $100. They were saying that if I want to argue it, they could come back and reassess. But if they found that it's still my fault that there was a plastic thing, then I have to pay another $100. I was frustrated because I have the highest warranty plan with American Home Shield, and it became so complicated to fix something. In the end, I had to have another electrician come to fix all three of them.

I feel confident having a condo because we have American Home Shield. My husband and I are not repair people, so it’s very reassuring to know that you don't have to have a handyman on call at all times. It’s nice to know that I have somebody who can come over and take care of an issue if we have one at the house. I feel that the price you’re paying is worth having the security of knowing that if something breaks down, they’ll come over and fix it.

I had Automatic Control Corp. come over to check out the air conditioning and make sure it was all set. I submitted my request online, and most of the time the site is pretty user-friendly. I've used it a few times, but I did have a couple of issues because it wouldn't give me the option for a central air conditioning unit for some reason. But when the contractors came to the house, they were able to take care of the issue. American Home Shield provides you the company’s name, and then the company calls and says what time they’ll be here. The contractors they’ve sent out were all very good. I've had no issues with any of them.

The only thing is, I had to have a couple of things replaced when I first moved into my condo and American Home Shield put in kind of cheaper stuff. I had a dripping faucet and they replaced it, but it was with a cheaper model. Same thing with the thermostat, I would have liked to have had a programmable one placed in and I would have paid the difference, but that was never an option. It’s just whatever’s there, they just replace it as opposed to being able to upgrade.

The water heater stopped working and we had a blown fuse upstairs. American Home Shield sent out a plumber who was very nice and repaired it quickly. Now it’s working perfect. Not all of our experiences with them turn out fine. About three out of four times was good. The people they sent had been very, very helpful. One time was a very long-drawn-out situation where they weren’t able to attend to the type of appliance we had. One instance was very frustrating, because when the technician came, he said he couldn’t do it, left, and closed the claim. But overall, I think having the warranty is worth it.

I recently had a service request for my garbage disposal which had a leak. I called AHS and told them what I needed. They gave me a person and said that that person would be calling me. It was fast and professional. The guy came and he told me what it was and fixed it. It didn’t take him no time. In terms of pricing, it went up for the service call now. I used to pay 70$ but now it’s $100. I would recommend them though.

I’ve been in customer service for over 40 something years, and I know that having to wait two days for a plumbing emergency is just not good. We had a real mess with backage in the toilet, the upstairs one was fine, but the basement toilet was backing up down there. I really feel like I shouldn’t have to go into your books and wait when it's an emergency. American Home Shield should already have something set in place for that. I’ve had problems in the past, and I just really wish American Home Shield could do better because they’re getting ready to lose us.

Once the guy actually got here, he was extremely nice and did exactly what he was supposed to do. He took care of the matter and everything was working, but waiting those two days was really bad. It seems to me like they need more contractors.

I’m on a fixed income and I pay every month, but most of the time we don’t even have problems. I was getting ready to cancel because this is money going out that I could be putting toward a car instead. I feel like I’m wasting my money. I could just save it and wait until something happens to take care of it myself.

I had a claim for a heating issue, and it went great. So, I sent the request in, and they called me within a few hours and then sent somebody out. It was cold, and so that was good. And then the technician came, and within half an hour, he had everything going. It had something to do with the spark igniter. So, everything worked well. It was wonderful. I had to pay $125 for service calls, and I don't know what it would cost for that. But other than that, it was good.

My experience with American Home Shield was mildly disappointing. Recently, I had a leak at an outside faucet behind the wall, so I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. The service from the guy at Dave’s Plumbing and Repair was excellent. Unfortunately, they called AHS, and AHS denied the claim. Dave’s Plumbing was very helpful, but AHS did not resolve the claim.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for about two years now. I thought it was a reasonable price and coverage. I’ve only had one claim, but they need to be very clear about what is covered and what is not covered so that I don't pay a fee to get a technician out here only to have the claim denied, and now I've wasted my fee and still have to pay the plumber to do the work on my own. They need to be very clear at the point you put in a claim if it is covered or not covered before you pay the fee. Unfortunately, since I did it online, we only talked after the fee was paid and after the plumber was here and I called them to ensure that it was a legitimate claim.

American Home Shield sent a contractor out for three issues, a dishwasher and a refrigerator that got replaced, and a Sub-Zero fridge that they finally solved the problem and it's no longer leaking Freon.

The Sub-Zero fridge is the only one that they've had to come out multiple times. The first guy from Nautilus came out twice just on the same call and he couldn't do the final repair. So I had to call a different person and I got charged again, but he did nothing. The last work that Nautilus did has held fine.

I place the claim by phone and they've been very responsive and polite every time I call. It's a good company to deal with and they're very nice to work with. They've done well.
