    The furnace upstairs was constantly running and the thermostat on the wall wasn’t controlling it. I had to go turn the furnace off to keep it from running. I made a claim then the weekend came but the contractor called me immediately the next business day. It was Monday and they wanted to come out Tuesday. They were gonna shut down because of what's going on, but the guy came out. There was a part that looked like it was singed and he took a picture of it. They ordered that part to replace and when they replaced it, it ended up being the control board then they had to order that part and they fixed that. Now, it’s working okay.

    We bought this home last year in August and the people we bought the home from purchased the warranty through our agreement. We’re coming up on a year with American Home Shield and they’ve been doing great thus far, getting people out and everything. We had quite a few issues there for a minute though. We have two units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. They had to come out several times for the one downstairs, but everything’s been okay. They've been fixing it.

    My recent claim regarding the dishwasher was fine. It was handled really well and they fixed the issue. I've had AHS for a long time and it seems they sold their company and there have been some communication issues now since that happened. I'm having a harder time. Sometimes when I call, the reps are good when the items can be repaired, but I had a microwave issue where they couldn’t find the part and AHS had to give me money or a catalog that I had to pick an item from and that was a really slow process. And when I called that number, I had to wait an hour on the phone, and then every time I had to call back, it was another hour wait. So, I'm fine when AHS does the initial thing and get it resolved, but it seems like once it goes beyond that, it can become a nightmare.

    One day, we were washing and although the machine was washing, it wasn't drying. When we took the stuff out, we looked and the bottom of the washer just spun. It is one of the new washers and I know that before then, the bottom of the washer was stable. It didn't spin. So it had to be something inside of it that I couldn't see that was messed up. I tried to tighten it myself but it came back loose. I thought it had to be something deep in there that was wrong with it.

    Green's Appliance came out and they were real nice. I showed the guy what the problem was and he told me that he had to take it back to his place to fix. Once he took it apart, he knew. He called me the next day and he explained to me that the issue was some type of motor thing on the inside. So we had to order that motor piece and another screw that would be more stable. I had that washer for four years and he said that sometimes, with the number of times that you wash, that screw gets unstable and doesn't stay tight. He also told me how long the order was gonna take to get in and how long that they were gonna have my washer to get it back to me.

    If anything goes wrong with any appliance in my house, I would like for American Home Shield to get Green's because they were on time. They called me before they came out to pick it up and they kept me abreast of everything they were doing with my washer. They also let me know when the part was in and that they would have my washer to me the next day.

    When I went with American Home Shield, my warranty on my house had just gone out and I knew when I had my other house that it's always good to have a warranty. I've seen American Home Shield's commercial and when I called, the people on the phone were awesome. So I went ahead with them. I had 2-10 and another company before but American Home Shield is prompt. They sent me somebody that was available in the area that fixed the problem the first time, without having to come back two or three times to get it fixed. The problem was fixed the first time and I don't have to worry about anything else about the washer right now.

    When certain major appliances or different things may go bad, I like to know that I have American Home Shield so I can get those things repaired, that's why I've been with them for more than 10 years now. Recently, our upstairs air conditioning wasn’t working. The guy from Airmax came. There was something going on in the outside unit electrically and he fixed it, and it’s been working fine ever since. He was great, very professional, and got the work done quickly, so no issues.

    I called the American Home Shield number to submit a claim and spoke with someone there. The tech from Lee's Appliances came out and checked everything. He told me that he was gonna get in contact with Home Shield and it was gonna be not repairable. Then, Home Shield got with me and let me know what was going on.     My HVAC system wasn't heating or cooling. The guy came out here the first time and said that there were some loose wires in there and in the thermostat. Then it wasn't heating or cooling again. So, the second time, he came back out and checked it again. He said that it was probably the thermostat. I told him that it's a brand new Nest eco-friendly thermostat that saves money. He took off the Nest and said that there were two wires that weren't together. They've done what they said and fixed the problem. Now, it works great. The only thing is that they should get better customer service. They won't listen to me. I know my house, I know what's going on, and they said that they'll just send it out there.

    I own a home in Columbus, Ohio and my experience with AHS has always been good with it. I also own a home in Austin, Texas that my daughter and her family live in, and they’ve had a varying success. It’s not with American Home Shield as much as the people that they contract with either having to come back a number of times to fix something. She also had a little bit of issue with people not getting back to her, but not too bad. We file our claims online and I’ve never had a situation where I haven’t gotten a call back within 24 hours.

    For my first claim with AHS, I called AHS and they sent Absolute Refrigeration Air Conditioning the next day to service my claim. Absolute Refrigeration did great.     I wanted everything covered on a used house and American Home Shield had a comprehensive policy that covered just about everything, while some of the others left some things out. Now, I see there are limitations in the policy, which I understand. All the companies have limitations, but going forward, I’m a little concerned. When I made a claim, the first plumber that came out didn’t know what he was doing and I was upset at first because I was told there was a hard object down my toilet and it was just toilet paper. He didn’t do the right thing with the cleanouts and he scratched up my toilet too. I wasn’t happy about that, but then they sent someone else from the company who knew what he was doing, and he fixed it.

    I’m glad things got fixed, but the first plumber said that the company won’t pay if the toilet needed to be removed. My house is 13 years old, so I’m wondering, if other things go wrong, will they cover things or say no, they’ll only cover part of it? I’ll just see what happens and if they’re good with things, then I’ll renew, especially if they give me a better price and a better copay. Another thing is that American Home Shield is not open on the weekend, and when you have a plumbing issue, you want it expedited. I’m happy with them, but when there’s a plumbing issue, I wanna know that they’ll come out that day or the next day. With certain issues, even if it’s a weekend, expedited should mean that day.

    We submitted a claim to AHS because the garbage disposal was blocked up and wasn't working. And then it's 19 years old. So, we thought for sure it was broken, but it was just the switch underneath was tripped. It has its own breaker other than the actual electrical box breaker in the house. So, we didn't know about that breaker underneath. The contractor that came out flipped that and then there was just some food lodged in it that caused it to stop and trip. And so, that was the problem. The technician was great.

    Our garage door was working on and off, and we couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I called AHS and in a day, the contractors came out. They figured out it was a wiring issue.     I was pleased with the work done by the last guy I had an appointment with but I didn't like the overall experience. I told him that the problem was my hot water tank. He put a regulator in it and it worked for a minute, but then it stopped working after about three days. It started making the same clicking sound when you turned the water on. I asked how would they repair the hot water tank if there was something was wrong with it. He said that AHS would buy me a new water tank, but the installation cost would be left up to me. He also said that he didn't know what the hot water tank would cost, but the installation would be $800. I tried to call AHS, but I could never get anybody.

    When I first got with AHS in 2012, everything was brand new. And about four went back, something very minor happened and they did a wonderful job. I like the way they operate. I can talk to someone and tell them what's going on. And then they would get in contact with whoever they need to come out and they'd give me the number to those peoples. They would then have those peoples call me and set up an appointment. I tell everybody about AHS and several of our guys got with them.

    I’ve had American Home Shield since late February when I got the house and a key lock replacement was one of the things in the policy. There was also a number that it told me to call and I got connected to them that way.     The dishwasher was overflowing and the water was coming back through the air thing that sits on top of the sink. I called Home Shield's office and AT Appliances called me that day and told me the time that they were coming. They came at the time that they said. My son was here during the repair and he was very pleased. He said the tech came in, immediately started to work and within 30 minutes or so, the tech was finished.

    There was stoppage in the bathrooms. Kenneth from Sirius had to work awhile on it. He still didn’t know what it was, but it was an hour he was here. He had to leave, get something, and come back. It was something in my son’s sink that just would not pass. We didn’t even know what it was. He said that the snake didn’t go where it was supposed to go because it’s two bathrooms backed up to each other and it was going to the other bathroom. It didn’t do what it was supposed to do. But now, it's perfect. I will never request anyone else but Sirius Plumbing and Kenneth. He's very knowledgeable. He took his time to explain stuff to me. A lot of people have had bad troubles with American Home Shield, but I never had.

    I had a stoppage in my kitchen sink pipes and we had B&K Plumbing clean out the pipes. The two guys who came in were awesome and they fixed it right up. They also recommended some preventative solutions to put in the sink to keep it from happening again. I was using the stuff that they sold me to clean it out for a few weeks and it seemed to help. It’s clearing everything out and everything’s working as it should. I wish AHS have gotten it done a little bit quicker, but people are busy and I understand that.     A whole circuit went out in my kitchen. It was something with the lights. I filed the claim with Home Shield using the website and found that it works well. I've done it a couple of other times and I got a notification. They’ve been pretty good about it. And then, Hopwood Electric did a great job. The tech came out and he fixed the problem.

    A couple of months ago, I had some leaks on the plumbing with my kitchen sink. The tech came out but he didn't seem to care, did a half-assed job and left. And then it ended up I was still having leaks under my sink. It turned out being multiple points of the leaks, but I didn’t know where exactly it was leaking because I just moved into the house. I wasn’t satisfied with that. Also, the second time he came out, he left a report saying that apparently, something wasn’t under warranty that he did, so he had a complaint. That wasn’t a very good experience. I also had another issue with a gas leak, but that got fixed as well, so that was a good experience. Two out of three issues that I’ve had were solved and I was okay with.

    I had a couple leaking faucets, a backup where when I run the washing machine, and water was coming back up through the shower. Home Choice Services came out and replaced some parts on the leaky faucets, and then they accessed the plumbing and snaked out the blockage.     When you need a plumber for an emergency, AHS doesn't do emergencies. It takes them about three days. A couple of times this month, the tenants needed an emergency, but they didn’t do it. They contract another plumber, but they didn't do an emergency. And I’m not satisfied about that. Other than that, AHS has been good. Everything went great with my most recent plumbing claim and the plumber who was there did a good job.

    Three or four months after I got the service with Home Shield, I had a burner on my glass top stove that had a short or something because it would come on all by itself. And it wouldn’t go off. It would be really hard to get it to turn off and a tech fixed that. Then, my shower wasn’t producing hot water and Lone Star Water Services came out. Submitting that claim was extremely easy and the tech fixed the whole thing in five minutes. You need to have a home warranty if you’re worried about high priced items going out. My stove, for instance, would have been really expensive if I had to replace that. And if I had had a plumber come out, it would have cost me $50 more plus whatever part they thought they needed. It’s worth it.

    Our washer stopped working so an iFiX repairman came out. He realized that there were little pieces of the transmission that had broken off. So initially, he replaced one piece of the gearing that he had and then the other piece, he had to order. So he told us not to use the washer and that he would order the part and then be back out to add that part when it came in. But it was a week later that he came back and installed the part. We were without a washer for two and a half weeks. So we did lots of trips to the laundromat. But that’s a first world problem. We should be grateful for the things that we have. I guess the part didn’t come in as quickly as they had planned and we were going to be another weekend without a washer. So he made a special trip to our house on a Friday.

    I'm not home on Fridays and they won’t come do repairs with minors in the house, which makes a lot of sense. I have a daughter who drives so she took my kids for ice cream while he was in the house doing the repair and then he called me when he was done. So then the kids came back and the job was completed on a Friday. It seems like everything has been working okay since then as well. Other than that, we had a claim on our furnace and that was super fast. A guy came less than 48 hours after we contacted American Home Shield, very quickly fixed the furnace and got it operational. It feels like getting this warranty from American Home Shield is definitely worth doing.

    I have been a customer with AHS for three years. My contract expired last year and I renewed it. I wish I went to another company. This issue was with the previous contract, but they would not honor it, so it was like starting the problem from scratch. My GE monogram refrigerator would not cool on the Freezer/Refrigerator - showed 24 and 54. Here is my timeline on calling and service calls for same issue.

    Oct 26, 2019 Service call from GE/Oct 29, installed and changed the fan on the freezer side. Feb 07, 2020 Same problem, called for GE service called, changed fan on freezer side. Mar 04, 2020 requested a return service on the same problem via internet, they said they would contact me, nobody did. Mar 07, 2020 called AHS again, request service, they said they could not get ahold of GE, they would promise to call me Monday. Nobody called again, I called and made for 3/14/20.

    Mar 16, 2020, noise started again on the fan. I was on the phone for 3 hours with AHS, with 2 different people. 1 with Customer service to get the monetary value/replacement cost $6,000 + and one with the Customer service agent, saying GE needs to come out and service the refrigerator again or state it is in continues same problem and cannot get fixed, only then I will get my $$$... I told them about a lemon law?? 3 times within 1 month of the same problem and time spent calling is ridiculous. He promised GE was closed and will call me back the next morning. Guess what? Again no call back. :( Today on March 18 at 4:30 p.m. I called again and the same scenario as above, Keisha, Said to wait for a call from GE, they will call me..

    I have spent at least 10 hours on the call with AHS. My biggest issue is: why do you have to fill in the form online, and then they state they will call us back with an appointment and never do. I have to sit and call them and go through the same thing again and again. Their Customer Service is Lousy, you are lucky if you get someone who cares. They can make an appt on their computers, but they won't tell you. One person did. So I know it can be done. Will I renew? Depends on how they handle this matter. Oct

    Normally AHS has been really good. But the service of some of their contractors isn't very good. Like for example, our fridge broke and we had no fridge. And they sent a technician out who couldn't figure it out. And every time they came, it was 75 bucks a pop. So we just couldn't figure it out. And then finally the last person that came was behind it. It seemed like they were just looking for a fix that would cost us a lot of money.

    With our fridge it wasn't just like we kept getting charged every time. Different things were breaking on the fridge at once. One thing breaks, they're gonna charge you for that. But if it doesn't get fixed they're not gonna charge you again until it's fixed. So say if the ice machine breaks they're gonna send a technician. If he can't fix it, the next one hopefully can, and that's the $75 you pay. But then, the fridge just shut down. So that's a different issue. But that's the only thing we really had trouble with. Overall, whenever we've had something someone's at our house within two days. They're quick to come out and help. So I really can't complain. There's good and bad.

    American Home Shield is very convenient. When some of my appliances went out and I called them, they sent somebody available either the same day or the next day. There was one particular company that didn't service our washing machine well. They were the only one that was available during that time and they didn't do the job right on the first two times they came out. Then on the third time, they said nothing was wrong with it. So I had given up on that and never bothered to call back. Home Shield also works on the availability of the contractors and you gotta be at the house when they were available. So I need to take off when I have somebody to come to my house.

    We've submitted a number of claims before and the problem is AHS gets people who are new startups and have no experience or they've had bad reputations and now they're trying to grow their business. It's as if they get anybody who buys into their program and they don't always have the best experience. To me, it feels like they don't truly vet the providers. So a number of times, we've had to go back and request somebody else again because they didn't troubleshoot properly or they didn't respond timely or they came back with crazy recommendations that weren't covered by AHS when that wasn't really the case.

    Although AHS have gotten better over the years, I plan on cancelling them and switching to Town and Country. The vendors Home Shield send over and what they cover now versus what they covered years ago is so much less. The prices have gone up too. Now, we're paying six something a year, where we used to pay four something. Also, the deductible was 50. Now, it's $75 and I'm getting subpar service in a lot of cases. As long as it's something that's an easy, quick fix then they're fine. But if it's something that requires a little bit more in-depth work, the majority of the time, we've had people who aren't skilled enough. But that was not the case with Cool Factory. Recently, I came home and the house was cold. The heat would not cut on. Cool Factory came and my husband dealt with them. He said they were really good and they fixed the issue immediately.

    Appliance Works came out and it was great. They had to come back three different times because it wasn't just my dryer that had a problem. My washer had a problem too and so did my refrigerator.     I submitted a request to American Home Shield about the electrical problem I was having in our room. The breaker kept tripping randomly due to an arc fault. I went online, put "electrical", put in a brief description of the issue and then submitted the claim. I was told Preece Construction would be coming out and then they called and we scheduled an appointment. But I was a little disappointed because I was hoping the problem would actually be resolved, not just get educated about it.

    Basically, I was told my light switches would probably have to be replaced at some point and he told me how I would wanna do it when I replace them but that everything was working so there was nothing to fix. I did learn about the voltage and the space heater that I had that were causing the trips. But the trips are still happening now, just more infrequently. Would I have appreciated replaced light switches considering that was the primary place it seemed to be tripping? Sure. Would I appreciate a little bit more diagnostic? Sure. But I don’t know what to expect when an electrician comes out. I’m not usually one to do home projects, which is why I submitted the claim in the first place.

    Sometimes, if I'm not happy with something, dealing with customer service is a little difficult. Last summer, I had a problem with a supplier or a vendor fixing my oven and I had to have four different vendors. We had to submit a second claim and they said they had to come out. Then they said the Freon was low and that it wasn’t a part of the warranty so we had to purchase some Freon.

    The unit is functioning well now because they fixed the two issues that were at hand. The first issue was that the motor was broken. It was completely shot and they fixed that. Then the second time, they had to add some Freon. So after doing that, everything worked fine. It’s been a successful partnership with American Home Shield. They are efficient and professional, and dealing with them has been a pretty easy process.

    I woke up one morning and my house wasn't heating. The furnace stopped working, so I called American Home Shield and they sent Fast Response out. The guy oiled some parts, scraped some rust off some parts, and it started working. So, the heat came on and that worked for about a month. Then, about three weeks later, the same thing happened. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent the same company back out. But it was a different person and he cleaned it up like the first guy. Apparently, they always clean the part that the other man cleaned up to make sure that it is really going, but they didn't tell me that. So three weeks later, the part went out. When I called him, he came back out and cleaned it up. And he had it going long enough for them to order the part. Then they came out with the new part and they put it in there.

    It's been about a week since they came out and so far, so good. The repair also didn't take more than five minutes because I was sitting here and I saw him bringing the new part in. And when I looked around, he had put it back in there. All in all, I've had nothing but fantastic results from American Home Shield. They have also replaced my whole stove even when I first came on and I hadn't been with them for a year. So, I really was happy. Aside from that, they've taken care of this furnace last year with some coolant that had to come out.

The only thing that I would like to be able to see from American Home Shield when I create a request for any type of work is a history of the different companies and dates who had been out previously to work on that appliance or that issue. I would like some contractors back and some, I wouldn’t. When I’m offered the option of choosing between these different companies, I can’t remember other than thinking that the last people who were here were good but I have no way to quickly see that.

    My claim with AHS went okay. The technician tested it when he brought it back the first time. ‘Cause the temperature sensors or heaters weren’t the first two ones in the front. It was the one in the back. So, they had to take the microwave down and take it to the shop. And when they brought it back, tested it with the water and because it was a convection microwave oven, we tried the convection oven side. And when it flipped back to microwave, something was wrong. And then the next time I tried to use it, it was no good. So, I called and said it’s not working. Then they came back and ordered the part. And then he brought the new part and put it in and it’s been working good ever since.

    The contractor was good. While I was on the phone making my claim to AHS, the repair people were already calling while we were still on the phone. So, I can’t get any faster than that. All the emails were sent and kept me informed too. But then on the last day, those guys were a little bit behind. So, I called them and they adjusted the time. Other than that, everything went smoothly. The bottom line is it’s working.

    On 3/14 had a toilet backed up, dirty brown drain water coming out of all connected sinks and tubs, whole house smells like sewage, pregnant and a small child at home, unsanitary! Called and was told 48 hrs before they can send someone out for this escalated order. After a few back and forths, had work order cancelled and called a plumber for emergency service. Paid $750 out of pocket and got it fixed, called back to see if I can be reimbursed, a different story every time and impossible to talk to a supervisor. Spent in total over an hour on phone between 3 calls. Was told they will escalate my issue and somebody would call me back to address the issue.

    Last person said they misinformed me because they should have either sent someone out in 24hrs or give me option to find an outside vendor. Was never given the option. 3 days and nobody called me. Just frustrated. Why do I have a warranty if I can't use it when I need it. I want proper reimbursement for what I had to pay. Could not speak to anyone in charge. Please advise. I expect AHS to do the right thing here.

    I have had a deplorable experience with American Home Shield! I was told by the repairman that they sent that more parts were needed and that I would be contacted by AHS. When I reached out to their call center I was told that there would be an additional cost of $1,365.00 to repair my air conditioning unit. When I inquired as to what these charges are for Miguel replied that he really didn't know what they were for but that the repairman's report showed what is was. I asked if he could send the report to me, Miguel stated that he could not. When I insisted his attitude change for the worse. He told me to contact the repairman. I said that I contracted with AHS and wanted the report. He replied "Ma'am do you want us to do everything for you?" I then said that I would like to speak to a supervisor, Miguel continued with his negative attitude and said that it would be two days before a supervisor would return my call.

    So here we sit five days into this fiasco with an inoperable air conditioner that is leaking R-22 refrigerant in our home. I have paid the $50.00 monthly premium and $100.00 service charge to be told I need to pay $1,365.00 for repairs that no-one can explain before I can have the unit repaired! I believe that AHS is running a rip-off scam operation! Deplorable customer service!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!

    I have call 3 times about issues with my house. 1: A/C problem. They sent the same company out twice and my a/c still does not cool the house in the summer. 2: Microwave broke. They sent a guy and he told me the fuse had to be replaced and when putting the door back on my microwave he broke a piece off. He took the fuse and said it would be 3 to 5 days before he could get it ordered. He never came back and wouldn't return my calls. So I looked up the company and they had a 1 star review.

    I called American Home Shield and it would not be covered because the people that owned the house before us had bugs. Even after I had exterminator check the house they would not cover. So I had to buy a new one. 3: Plumbing Issues. Again they give me 1 star companies. I called because I had Sewage clog and they set my up with several plumbers and no plumbers could come take care of it and they said for me to find a plumber of my own, but gave me a large list of companies I could not use. I ended up just paying for it myself. Forget this.

    I recently (3/16/2020) had my A/C system looked at because it kept tripping the circuit breaker. The technician informed me that my compressor was leaking and needed to be replaced. I figured this should be covered by my AHS warranty (that I pay over $1,000 a year for). The technician informed me that AHS will not cover refrigerant (only $10 per pound, when a pound is $72). The refrigerant will cost me over $600 in out-of-pocket, above warranty cost. The compressor is under ten years old and covered by warranty, so that cost was alleviated (will cost AHS nothing), so I am left questioning what is the point of a home warranty if I’m forced to pay over $600 plus the AHS deductible. This is difficult to understand and I feel like this warranty is a SCAM!!! Be careful if you are considering this company!!

    First: Their web-site was either extremely slow, or broken. I waited for the "swirling circle" for a looonnngg time. Second: Went to the phone method. This was okay if you believe 45 minutes waiting listening to horrible music/noise, and finally getting a representative that I could barely understand (oriental accent). Third: Rep was very slow in what she did, and had several problems with my request. She kept apologizing for the extremely long time it took her do whatever it was she was doing.

    Fourth: We had a fantastic home warranty company in AZ. Their web-site worked and their phone interface also was top notch. You called, they answered; they got a contractor to call the very next day for scheduling. Problem fixed with 5-10 minutes of my time. I tried to get them here in CA, but they don't do business here. Fifth: Costs back in AZ were a lot less than American Home Shield offers her in CA. The "visit cost" will probably only be a few dollars less than having had it fixed on my own. After thinking back for a few minutes, I can't come up with anything good to say, so I better stop now.

I filed the claim online Monday night I believe and they came out on Wednesday and fixed it. Overall, I was pleased with the service.     AHS doesnt do anything until something is broken, and then it depends on whether or not they’re there, how fast you get it repaired, how quickly you can get an appointment, and how fast those people repair it. Our washer broke and there was a lot going on and the first guy came and said, “This needs to be totaled out. It’s ruined. Your motherboard is fried.” American Home Shield didn’t accept that answer and they sent some guys. Each one of them said the same thing but American Home Shield wanted them to try something else.

    In the middle of November, the washer broke and we didn’t get a new washer. They told us, “You can go buy a new washer, and then you have to submit the receipt to us for approval before we give you your money back." In January that we finally did that. But what happens if I’m not able to go out and buy a new washer and submit it, and then wait for the payment to return?

    We were fortunate enough that we had the money saved up that we can go and buy a washer. But a lot of people don’t, so what do they do? And in the meantime, you’re doing laundry at a laundromat at probably 40 bucks a week. Nobody’s reimbursed me for that, although they took your money. You pay them in good faith. So I’m not getting a home warranty once this one expires.

    My igniter went out on the furnace. I put a claim in online to AHS, and they initially sent an email as to who was coming out. That company called and said they couldn't get out until about four days later because they were so backed up. So I called American Home Shield, talked to them, and they put the request out to New Phase and they were out within a couple three hours.

    I love the service. We've been in the house for 18 years, and we've had AHS for about 17 years. I never had an issue with them. Every time I called was mostly issues the furnace. They've replaced my hot water heater twice. Every time I've had an issue, they've sent somebody out within a day or so and never had any problems. AHS covers everything. They cover all appliances, the heating, and the air conditioning. As far as I'm concerned, it's very cost-effective. And considering what they are covering, the cost is nothing.

    The icemaker went out in my Samsung French door refrigerator. The tech first put in a fan then a couple of days later, the icemaker quit working again. So, I called back and he ordered a part and put in a new icemaker. So far, it’s working. The only thing I’m having trouble with now is I had put in a request for a toilet. I canceled it because my children didn’t want people coming in my house ‘cause I have cancer to the thyroid. So, I called and AHS told me they would cancel the $75 fee. A day later, I got this message that my bank was gonna have the $75 coming out that Monday. So, I called again and the rep took care of it, but I still got the message. So, I called back and the rep took care of it. He said it was a glitch and it won’t come out. They never took it out and the reps were nice to me but I had to call 3 times to make sure it didn’t come out.

    I've had AHS for years and I keep it because I’m by myself and I wanna make sure. If my air conditioner ever goes out, they would replace it. When plumbing things happen, I just pay that copay, and AHS helps me. I just wish the payment each month was lower ‘cause it’s $70 now.

    In over 20 years how much I have used AHS, I could have easily replaced everything. But I still like the satisfaction of feeling that I’m insured. I have called for service maybe five or six times and it has worked out every single time. I hope a big one never happens but I hope that will also work out. I am very proactive. For example, rather than letting my water heater break and have AHS replaced it, I proactively replace it myself. I’m not looking to take advantage but it’s an insurance. I sleep better with it. They turned out they do it perfect, and every single service that I have had in the past, I have been happy. I have no complaints. One of the things is that you don't deal with is fly-by-night operations.

    For appliances, AHS sends Sears every time. And even though I don’t deal often with garage door opener people. I did not know anything 495 Garage Door, but they were excellent. These guys were very professional, to the point, and did a good job. Also, every now and then I needed to talk to AHS billing people. I talk to them every year and they don’t give me runaround. This is what they can and cannot do. I am happy with that kind of approach.

    After the warranty that came with the house was over, I got American Home Shield which has more coverage. My biggest issue is most people work 8:00 to 5:00 and they get home 6:00 or 6:30. To benefit people having a job and everybody, they should at least have a second shift because I like to be in my home when somebody is in my home. My brother is here, but he doesn't answer all the questions, and I'm the lady of the house and I need to be here. I'm working all the way in Alexandria and I would not get home until 7 o'clock. So they need to have after-hour services for people that work late. This way, more mechanics could have a job, and the homeowners would feel comfortable being in the house when people are in the house.

    I have to leave my house 7 in the morning to get to work on time, and American Home Shield techs don't start until 9:00. So if they come between 9:00 and 11:00, it's gonna be 11:00 or 12:00 by the time they fix things and then there's no sense going into work. If American Home Shield can find a way to have after-hours second shift repairmen, I would be 100% happy. Another thing is that there should be a better direct number or they need more operator. Sometimes when you call, you're on line for hours, and you can't afford to stay on hold that long. But overall, I'm happy with them. I'd tell all my friends that's buying a house to definitely get American Home Shield.

    The All Brand Appliance Repair tech took a few tries to repair the actual cooktop, but he finally got it. He was great and a nice guy. However, every once in a good while, there's a hiccup in the cooktop. It stays on for a little bit and eventually goes out. The technician explained to us that there's a temp sensor there that once it reaches a certain temperature, it shuts off the actual igniter. But so far, it's working properly. As long as it's not doing what it was doing before, my wife is happy with it. If it does return, we will give the company a callback or Home Shield. They told me what they believed was wrong and what they were going to submit to American Home Shield. Then, I was given a follow-up call to say that the claim was submitted and that it was waiting for approval from the home warranty company. They then had to order the part, which was the longest thing. It took between four and six weeks before the part got to Hawaii, and then they installed it after it arrived. The contractors knew exactly what they were doing, and they were well-versed in refrigeration. So, they took it out, put it in and set it up, and everything worked fine.

    The central air conditioning I had at home was over 20 years old, so it’s not cost-efficient. The new one is more cost-efficient, it cools faster, and it doesn’t make the machine work as hard. So, that makes it better over here, especially for electricity -- the electricity in Hawaii is extremely high. I'm trying to get used to it being cooler again. I have had American Home Shield for 14 years already, and I would recommend it to anybody because you get good service, and you only pay $75 plus tax and they do everything.

    When we bought the house, American Home Shield was part of the deal the Realtor established and after the year ended, we came back and put the warranty back amongst ourselves. Recently, we called the agency for our upstairs unit that was out, and they gave us the vendor's number. They said somebody will call us and a guy from Air Plus Heating and Cooling called out. He's awesome. I'm a school principal, so my time is messed up, but he was very thorough. We communicated, and when he said he's gonna be there, he was there. I didn't waste time. He had to order a new board and when he had to come back to install it, he texted the night before to let us know when he was gonna be there. He's very good and serviceable and the unit is working properly now.

    I read the literature and it's right. American Home Shield offers better service and coverage. It's a little bit lower priced and they're very responsive too. When my old refrigerator was not cooling well at all, they delivered a GE refrigerator. It took a while to get it though. They delivered the GE and it wasn't cooling properly. It took almost three weeks to get GE out to fix it under that warranty. I have medication in the refrigerator and it needs to be kept cold, but that didn't seem to sway them at all. Still, the claim went well.

    I've been having plumbing issues and hiring plumbers monthly so I went to American Home Shield and their plumbers came out to fix it in one month. Recently, there was water damage on my ceiling. The roofers came and told me that it was ductwork. After I filed the claim with AHS, I got a text message and an email saying someone was gonna contact me within a couple of hours and somebody did.     We have a gas heater, and it would kick on and it would heat for five or ten minutes and it was almost just like it would cut off. When we changed the temperature setting up, it would do the same thing. It would run. You could see the flames on it and everything, but it would cut off after five minutes for some reason. My husband called American Home Shield on a Thursday and A-US was out here the next morning. And then it took them maybe an hour to figure out what the problem was, and then they had to send somebody else. They came out Friday, looked at it, and then they set it up for a Monday for the people to come out. They had to clean out something and they ordered something like a safety valve that kept shutting off. It kept shutting off because it was not clean all the way. They took care of it, and they had it done super quickly.

    American Home Shield has always been wonderful. We’ve had it off and on. When we first moved into this house in 2011, we had it for four years then, and then we had to cancel it for a couple of years, and now we’ve had it for about two years. They make things pretty easy. We’re able to schedule an appointment online. Everybody got in contact with us super quick even if it was like, “Hey, you know, we can’t come out until this time.” Even our time frames were super short, but they stayed in contact with us for everything. So, they did a really good job. I recommend them to everybody.

    AHS has gotten people out here quickly. And there's usually no hold when submitting a claim through their website. They and the process are pretty straightforward. But as far as somebody getting in contact with you, it's not always the fastest because they use a small contractor. However, the repair gets done and I've been happy with it. About four months earlier, they had to take out and install a whole new unit. We've definitely gotten our money's worth out of it. And our most recent claim was a screw up on my part because the breaker had tripped off and I didn't go check it.

    There was an issue with my bathroom sink one time. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they sent a contractor. So far, some of the contractors they send are great and some of them are horrible. The one that did the sink was horrible. I had to take cash out on my sink because they could not get the job done. The claim took almost six months and they still couldn't do it. Another time, I had an issue with my hot water heater and AHS was gonna send the same company that did the sink to us. I had to call it in because I had such a bad problem with the person who did our sink. For the water heater, they sent Alvarez Plumbing. We live in a very secluded area so it's really hard to get the people up on the hill to us. Alvarez had to come from down the hill. They were phenomenal.

    Everything shouldn't have happened the way it did. I had to put out at least $1,500 on extra expenses that I wouldn't have had to pay if the water heater had been replaced when it should have been. I hope that there would be a change in the consciousness of the water heater replacement before it breaks because now my floors are different.

    I told AHS that it was an old water heater and that I didn't want it to break. I asked, "Shouldn't we do something before it breaks?" The response I got was, "It has to break before we can do anything." I was disappointed. Somebody said that they have a form that they could fill out which might help with replacing the water heater. I'm not exactly sure what "might help with" means. They'd probably look at how old the water heater is and some other qualifications in order to decide if there needs to have a new water heater.

    AHS has lived up to what they said they were gonna do. They paid for the water heater, but I was so overcharged by the contractor for the straps and stuff at $875, which was totally outrageous. Also, with all the subcontractors and what was done, about $5,000 was spent, which didn't have to be spent at all. About 1,200 would have been it just to put in the water heater in. From my perspective, there was a lot of wasted money.

    I had claims for my furnace, one in November of '19 and one just happened. The furnace was on but nothing was clicking to keep it on, and I noticed that by waking up in the morning and it was pretty cold. The first thing I did was go and turn the heat up a little bit and I noticed that the thermostat said 60-something. But I had set it at 72 so for it to be 60 anything, I knew something was wrong. I went downstairs and looked at the furnace then I turned it off and on by the switch on the thermostat. I could hear it getting ready to start but then that was it. It never ignited or do anything else.

    I always do all claims with American Home Shield over the phone. I call the number and it starts me off with an automated prompt. Then I end up speaking to a representative and I can go from there. On this last claim, I had to notate that I had no heat at all and since I'm in Chicago, Illinois, it gets really cold when it gets to a certain temperature. So thinking of waking up early in the morning and not having heat in my home, I wanted to make sure that they try to expedite that.

    The first time I called about my furnace, American Home Shield had me set up with someone that never even responded. It was also ridiculously colder in November than it was this last time and I had to wait and wait then call back multiple times. So I made sure that when I called this time and it was in reference to my heater, that they did not send that particular company out to me again. The same company came out both times and they were great. The smallest part had to be replaced and now, there's not a problem with the furnace anymore.

    The air conditioner was blowing room temperature air and it wouldn’t cool down. When the contractor came out the first time, they discovered that the breaker had flipped which powers the outside unit. The second time they came out, I checked the breaker myself and it was on. There was some drainage pan that was backed up and because of that, the unit would not communicate to the outside condenser to turn on. They cleared that drainage line and told my wife that if she just keeps an eye on that drain line and that if it backs up for some reason again, she could clear it and it should be fine. Since the contractor came out, it has been working okay.

    A contractor also came out for the toilet. It was an easy fix but they haven’t come back out to fix it because they had to order a part. They needed to replace the whole handle and chain with one that fits better so it won’t break. It was an excellent experience with AHS. They were quick to answer my call as well as make an appointment and the people came when they said they were coming. They worked fast so that the system works well.

    I called AHS in January for a washer claim and Buster’s Appliance Repair had come out twice. But they’re due to come out again because my washer is still not draining. It was working well for three weeks and then by the fourth week, I noticed that it wasn't draining all the water. I tried it again and run the second cycle just to drain it. This time, it left a lot of water. So I called American Home Shield and they opened the case again in the system. That was on a Sunday and the lady that I spoke with said that she would send a request for the company to come back. When I didn't get anybody on Monday, I called Buster's that Tuesday and the gentleman that answered the phone told me that they were closed till April because of the flu virus. So, they declined the order.

    I called American Home Shield again and they said they would decline because of the flu thing. So, they were gonna have me pay again to get a different company to come out. Then I asked them why I had to pay again. Then they went ahead and agreed. American Home Shield will just send me someone out, and I won’t have to pay a second time for the same problem. The lady was very helpful in getting the right persons to pay them instead. She was outstanding and she went way above and beyond to take care of it. American Home Shield sends people out right away and I’m glad I have it. It saved me a lot of money by doing that.

    When I got the policy from Home Shield, I asked them to cover extra things like my swimming pool pump, irrigation pump, septic tank pump, and my well pump. When I called up about my irrigation pump, the girl said I was covered. They sent somebody out to fix it and saw that the pump was split in half. Then I found that I was not covered so I had to pay that myself for $675. Plus, they charged me $100 for coming out too. I had another claim where my garage door wouldn’t open. That broke, and I thought it was the garage door opener, but it was a big spring that had busted on the top of the garage. That wasn’t covered as well. I also had an air conditioning one fixed and it was the filter had clogged up into the mechanism. That wasn’t covered too so I had to pay $320 for that. But the reps were very nice and they normally get someone to call me within 24 hours.

    We had a plug that was out and #1 R & R Electrical Allstar fixed it. We also had an experience yesterday that was a little weird because our AC went out and so we had to use our warranty again. They sent an AC company out here yesterday too, and we were not 100% sure that they were on the up and up. We called back the American Home Shield because the gentleman that came out told us that we would have a $1,400 bill to fix the part and then fill the refrigerant. And that was an out-of-pocket expense. Within 45 minutes, they had the manager here with the same company giving us a quote for $10,000 to $19,000 for a new unit. So, it was either $1,400 to fix it with the company that the warranty sent out, or buy a new unit.

    I called the warranty company back because they were saying we needed a new unit and were trying to upsell us significantly. We were not getting good information from the people that they sent out. This was the second time that this may have happened. I asked for s second opinion and AHS said that they didn't do that and that I would have to pay again. We then ended up calling someone ourselves and got the whole thing fixed for $360 yesterday.

    One of the ins of the handle of the door of my microwave had come loose and it was located inside of the door where you could get to the one at the top, but the other one is inside the door. I gave AHS a call and the guy that did it the first time didn’t do it right. So, the second time, I was looking for some results. They sent out a tech from Pyk Appliance Repair, LLC and he had to re-fix it. This time, the gentleman was nice. He told me exactly what was wrong and what he would do. I liked the way he presented it and he was great at explaining what he was doing while he was doing it. He also told me how long the repair would take and it didn't take forever to do it. Then he cleaned up everything better than the other guy did and I thanked him for it. He did a great job and everything has been working well since the repair. Now, I have no more worries.

    I have 3 properties right now with American Home Shield coverage and I have put innumerable real estate transactions with them. I’ve been in real estate for 20 some years, and I probably have been involved with American Home Shield for 20 some years too. Their contractors are pretty good. I had a situation I was not happy with a number of years ago in a rental property, and if I had been more personally involved, it would have been resolved. It was the tenant and bad communication. He tends to tick everybody off and I didn’t realize ‘til after the fact.

    But for the most part, I’ve been happy with American Home Shield. If I haven’t been happy with a situation, it’s been resolved and I’ve appreciated that. I have had great relationships with their reps. I’m not sure what kind of service I would get from the company if I didn’t have that intermediary. I was very happy with Janet and right now Rick is amazing. I feel like I have an advocate and I like that. I like having somebody personal that I can count on. I’ve given friends of mine suggestions as they’ve talked about their homes. I’ve suggested that they work through my rep and use my name so that if there ever is an issue then I’ll know that they’ll have an advocate.

    I love being able to make the service call to American Home Shield. The customer service folks are excellent and they work with you. They get the vendors on the line immediately. The service is great and the prices are fair. I’d rather pay $75 to get a brand-new washer after several times it wasn’t able to be fixed so, I’m getting my money’s worth. But AHS should have the vendors be more prepared. They do the work but it’s just a little extra effort. When the plumber had to cut a hole in the ceiling, AHS sent out the contractor, who just put mud on the sheet rock. You have to get another vendor or pay for somebody to paint the wall or the ceiling.

    When my washing machine went out and it was full of water, I was told the first time that the vendor wouldn’t be able to come for a week and then, he said he couldn’t come for probably till the end of the month. I couldn’t be without my washer for a month so, AHS had to find another vendor. This particular vendor came out unprepared and he told me that he had to move the washing machine because it was in a drain pan and he didn’t have help. He wouldn’t be able to do the job. I literally had to lift it and when he realized that I would move it myself, he helped me. The contractors should understand the tickets that they receive and what the work involves.

    In my most recent claim, High Priority Plumbing and Services came out. The first time I called with the leak, the contractor said that the pipe was damp but they didn’t know where it was coming from. So, they didn’t do anything about it. This time, I called because my ceiling was cracking and it was the exact same leak. The contractor came and finally fixed it but they could’ve fixed it the first time.

    I had a shower that wouldn’t stop letting the water out. Even when we turned the water off, there was still water coming out. I called in the middle of the night, Friday, and AHS took the order in and the techs came Saturday morning, so I was very pleased. When I first called them in the morning, they said it was going be after 3 o’clock, but they got a guy to come early. I love Sigmond Plumbing.

    However I’m not happy with AHS. They're expensive, and when I google them, they have F star rating. One time, I had a problem with my dryer. The guy came out. It took around four different times over a month period before I could even use my dryer. Some things are not covered like the springs if my garage door breaks. That was the last thing that happened that made me very unhappy with them. They charged me for the guy that came out about the garage door opener, even though they didn't cover the service. I had to pay the company that came out $250 for fixing the springs in the garage door. I also still had to pay the $75 to American Home Shield, which is ridiculous because it wasn’t covered. Right now while I have no job and I’m cutting a lot of things, I’ll probably cut American Home Shield because I can’t afford it.

    Home Shield was first initiated when we bought the home. It came with the warranty, and that’s who it was through. They provided great service every time we had them send out somebody. We had some issues with our air conditioning unit years back and the contractor was out several times for that. They replaced the motors, the chips and circuit board, and everything else to try to keep it running. And then, they finally replaced the unit itself and haven’t had a problem since. I’ve also had my hot water heater, my dryer, and dishwasher with Home Shield. The contractor came out for my dishwasher a couple of times. However, there was nothing wrong with it other than it was clogged up. I didn’t realize that. I thought the pump wasn’t pumping the water out properly. Everything went well with that claim and for my clothes washer.

    I got another claim which I have to follow up. I’m leaking water out of the tank somewhere. I had the gentleman keep an eye on it as he filled up the tub and checked as to why my agitator wasn’t going through the cycle properly, and he said they didn’t notice any leaks. It looks like there are leaks coming from underneath of it, but that’s a separate claim from what I had before. The gentleman did an excellent job. He was very professional and very courteous. Home Shield is very reliable. I trust in them. They’ve come out and taken care of every issue that I’ve had and they stayed on top of it. Home Shield was always there so, I like them.

    All contractors of AHS have been great, except for one. They didn't wanna do the work. So, they passed it off as something different. I’m in Palm Springs.     My son has American Home Shield and he recommended it since I've been with my house for five years. Little things started happening that I or my son could take care of but I thought it wouldn't hurt to have the house covered in case something big happens. The method to submit a claim was pretty user-friendly. I'm pretty computer literate so it wasn't hard for me at all. Once, my master bathroom toilet backed up into the shower and wouldn't clear.     AHS recently sent Clutch Appliance Repair and it has been great because of the promptness of the repair. The contractor didn’t just fix the problem, he checked the unit out to let me know what stage or condition it was in. He said the other motor and everything was performing at its maximum capacity, and the unit was running good. That’s very unusual for a technician. A lot of them would just fix what was on the work order.

    The other experience is they were supposed to fix my refrigerator icemaker. The work order was open. The work order lasted four months. Then when the contractor finally got the part in, I had sold the house and moved from that area. And this was during the time that they got the part one day and the scheduled it two days later which I told them I did move. I’m still in Houston, but I was north and the technician couldn’t come all the way to North Houston to fix the icemaker. So the icemaker didn't get to be fixed. They even kept my copay. It was like paying for something you didn’t get. No one wants to do that. That was strike number one. Before it took them nine months to fix a dishwasher. Every time they came with a technician they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it. Eventually they replaced. I dropped AHS for a year. But since I had enjoyed the service they gave me and have a lot of faith I went back to them.

    I called American Home Shield to have someone come out to unclog a plugged washing machine drain. they said I would have to pay $75, which I did, when their repairman showed up about 3 days later, he said that he doesn't do that and I would have to call a plumber. So I called a plumber and he resolved my problem, I had to pay him $125 out of my pocket. I then call American Home Shield and cancelled my contract with them. They said they would cancel it.

    I noticed 18 months later they were still taking money out of my checking account. I called my bank to have it stopped and I was able to get 3 months returned to me. However today, 3 months later I get a bill in the mail stating there is a late charge due for non payment. I was furious and wrote them a letter and mailed it back to them. I will not ever do business with them again and I will tell everyhone I know also not to do business with them. I think it is a sham and the company should be shut down. Also on the initial $75 I paid them, they hounded me for over a month once I got it taken off of my credit card. If I could give them zero stars, I would.

    The contractor, Ace of Spades Garage Door, ended up replacing the entire motor of my garage door opener. We didn’t have anybody locally here, so they had to drive in from 150 miles away. They explained to me that normally, they would wait for a few cases so that they could make it worthwhile to do a repair. So, it took about a week but I was okay with it. Once the guy was here, it took him 30 minutes to replace and he was in and out. He did a perfect job and things have been going great.

    The first contractor that came in did his thing and inspected it. It was like we did something over there to break the stuff. Then the estimate was inaccurate so he didn't wanna fix it. He left like he was in a hurry and never came back. I called again for the next one. The guy came in, did the same thing, and looked around. I mentioned to him that I just came back from the Philippines and he said his wife just had surgery and she could barely see him because she doesn't wanna get infected.

    At that time, Coronavirus started kicking in. Then he came out, he called his office, then he said he'll be back in 10 minutes. After that 10 minutes, he knocked on the door and said he couldn't come in the house because I guess he was scared. I don't blame him, but he was just being paranoid. The third one did his thing and I was satisfied. Good job. The only thing was that somebody came in and American Home Shield they don't wanna pay anything. The second one estimated the same stuff and they said I gotta pay that deductible again.

    MSE Plumbing fixed my toilet. I know the technician. He has been serving my house for at least two years. He has been reliable and dependable. I like Home Shield, but I’m not liking it very much these days. For instance, this toilet thing, I live in Elk Grove but they always assign somebody 80 miles away from me instead of a local vendor. They assign somebody from Citrus Heights, which is about 80 miles from my city, while my city, we have this vendor, MSE Plumbing. We have other vendors. It takes a long time to drive 80 miles one way to come to fix my problem. Why doesn’t Home Shield just assign a local vendor for me? They don’t care. That aggravates me. Is it to save their company money or what? I have no idea.

    This is the second time that Home Shield assigned somebody in Citrus Heights, something called Budget Rooter, 80 miles away from me, and I didn’t like them at all. I waited until almost six something, the tech came, and then by the time he finished, it was eight something in the evening. It doesn’t make any business sense to me. Why is their staff careless?

    American Home Shield has been excellent. When I did a claim for my heating, they texted me within a day and sent the plumber the next day. MS Services came out and the guy checked my heater. It was making a loud clicking and popping sound and he fixed it. He replaced the thermostat. He was great. He had it set on 45, so every time it gets under 45 it kicks back on automatic, but I don’t have that much instruction on how to cut it down. I looked at the box he left here and there’s not that much instruction on that. Still, everything’s doing great.

    The Home Shield rep was very helpful. She told us when the contractor would give us a call to schedule a time. Our washer was leaking but it was determined that it wasn’t the washer itself. It was the drain. The first man that came out was a very nice young man, but he said that it wasn’t something that he could fix so he transferred the charge over to a plumber instead and I didn’t have to pay another deductible. Both contractors were great. You should get the warranty. It pays for itself.

    Our claim where J&L Plumbing came out went great. The chap looked at my waste disposal and he tried to fix it. Then, he told me what the problem was and he replaced it immediately -- he had a replacement in his van. He also told me how to maintain it and that I should let him know if I had any issues. It was done in about 15 minutes and it was perfect. I called him the “waste garbage whisperer” to my wife. I did the filing of this claim electronically and American Home Shield confirmed my request. The company then called me within a couple of hours, and he came within a day. Everything was great. I've been with this home warranty company for about seven years now.

    AHS covered things that I wanted to have covered in the house like air conditioning and other appliances so I chose them. It seemed to cover most of the items within a reasonable cost. The first contractor we had was an outfit called AT Appliance. They were absolutely horrible. I’m pretty proficient mechanically and the appliance guy who came out was less proficient than I was. I was giving the individual the information needed so they could figure out the problem and thus take care of it immediately. He disagreed in regards to many of the different items that needed to be taken care of, which I found rather frustrating because of the fact that I had a pretty good understanding of what needed to be taken care of to fix the problem.

    They did multiple visits taking care of each repair instead of taking care of all of them in one or two visits. And they kept billing the insurance company for multiple visits. It was a huge inconvenience. Until it got to a point where I finally had enough. I said I won’t let this company come in and then, CAL-PRO came out. They did a fantastic job and were very professional. They took care of everything needed and gave some good advice on how to maintain it so I don’t have things break. I was blown away with their service. I've had great service and I would say their service was excellent. Everything worked out great.

    Then, I kept having other things break and I was unwilling to let any other company come into the house. Home Shield would almost always choose AT Appliance which was very frustrating. I would have to call Home Shield and tell them I wouldn't let AT Appliance come into my house. They would ask me if there was another one that I liked and I would tell them I like CAL-PRO. If this particular company was able to service them, I wanted just that company. As far as it goes, I’m not happy with American Home Shield.

    Also, we have a dishwasher that we had that needed to be taken care of and it still hasn’t been remedied to its fullest. It came down to electrical problems to the point of me having a concern that there’s potential for a fire hazard in the house and they were unwilling to expedite the claim or take care of us and be very upfront. This happened back in December and I was ready to get this thing fixed and even do it myself. It was pretty frustrating and that experience soured every other facet of it. I’ve only recently found out that they electronically sent a gift card to Home Depot for us to go get the appliance. But our state and my area are on lockdown, so I can’t go get that appliance. I still am dealing with the dishwasher issue.

    The dishwasher was leaking at the bottom. I got online and selected what I needed to select, then made an appointment. The only thing was that it didn’t give me an option to put what was wrong and this could be improved. I really requested an appointment to fix the oven and to fix the dishwasher, and the gentleman from Bay to Bay Appliance Repair that came in told me that they don’t do gas. He had to tell another company to come over and do the gas. But both were good experiences. He checked everything at the bottom and said that we needed a new part. The part was ordered and when it came, they made another appointment with me. He came and put the parts in. Everything is working fine so far. American Home Shield is really a good company.

    I bought my house in 2003 and the previous owner already had First American Home. I didn’t have that many claims with them over the period of 15 years, but they couldn’t fix my dishwasher. They kept saying somebody else fix it, and they couldn’t fix it. After going through that several times and they didn’t wanna fix it, I decided to leave them and come with American Shield. I switched some time in the middle of last year and for the timeframe that I've been with them, they’ve offered excellent service. They were able to provide a contractor to fix my claim. They put in that the claim was completed though.

    After I had tried the washer and the dishwasher again, I called and let them know that it wasn’t. They told me they were very sorry about that and they would get back in contact with the contractor to send them back out. The contractor couldn’t figure out what was broken with the washer and the dishwasher at first. They made four different calls to the house, but they finally figured it out and they took care of it. They did an awesome job. Also, they stayed in communication well. They offered great customer service and kept me updated. They let me know who was coming out and worked with me on the timeframe. So, I'd recommend them.

    When an appliance issue came about, the tech that showed up in our house was awesome. The main contact, though, is very slow to get back and somewhat sarcastic. The techs came out about three times and they haven't been able to figure out the problem. Today is Thursday and I haven't heard anything since Monday when they were here. So, communication is not good and I don't know if it's AHS or Fleming Appliance. I hope AHS has better contractors, but other than that, their reps are fine and submitting a claim is easy and very simple.

    I've had American Home Shield since I bought my house and it's going on three years now. They send out some nice people and I've never had a problem. They get the job done right and then if I ever have a problem, I call them back and they'd come back out. I had a sump pump issue and the guy who came out did a good job. The young man who came out was very professional and he knocked it out but there were supposed to be three jobs.     I went online and looked for different home things. Everything is getting old in my house and I don’t have a way to replace them immediately. I ended up with American Home Shield. But I was surprised because I read negative things about home warranties in general and one bad thing about American Home Shield. I questioned whether I bought a bad product.     My claim concerned the ignition of our gas furnace. WeatherWise was assigned to our case and that went very well. Just to come out is $100 then you have another whatever for the part, so it was a lot cheaper for me. Initially, I was gonna cancel my warranty because my mom just canceled hers. But I’d like to talk her into getting it back. She’s had the hot water heater go out and she’s had something go on with the furnace. My dad just passed away and I think she should have a warranty.

    AHS had a yearly cleanup and I engaged them to clean up my heating system. Because of that, the contractor realized that there was a crack in the furnace so it was leaking gas. They recommended that that should be changed. AHS authorized it and then the contractor changed it. It took about two weeks from the time we reported it because they had to order the new furnace. Every customer wants a prompt response. With AHS, when you jump online and make a request, you have somebody responding to you and engaging the technician to come and take a look at it.

    The garbage disposal started leaking and it took one full day after I submitted a claim online for someone to come out. The technician from JED Mechanical was good. It was such an easy repair for him. He was professional, texted ahead, let me know that he was here, came in, replaced the garbage disposal, showed me that it was working, and he was gone in a very short period of time.     We had a plumbing claim and everything went great. The tech was very polite and professional and he got the job done quickly. But we had some issues with Home Shield when it came to the repairs on our dryer. It took them over a week to find somebody and then it took another week before Sears had an opening to come out. When they came out, the dryer needed several parts for it. They had to order the parts and it took about a month for the parts to get in. Then one of them didn't get in so we were waiting on that.

    I kept calling Home Shield but the whole thing had to be reviewed and they had to put me on hold for 45 minutes each time, sometimes longer. They'd say they'd call the agency that was assigned to repair and find out what was going on. But I'd tell them that I already talked to the company a few days ago and I was still waiting on a part. Every day, I'd call because I was trying to get an answer and every time, I'd have to go through the same thing. They put me on hold, and go back through and just read the notes. I also asked several times for a supervisor but never could I get a supervisor to call me.

    After about two months of waiting, somebody from Home Shield finally said they could get a part ordered for me. So they did that and it was delivered within a few days. Then, we had to wait for Sears to have an opening to come out and put it together. Once they got out, they got it fixed. But it took three months and I was not happy 'cause I'm disabled and having to load all that stuff up and take it to the laundromat to wash and dry it. We stayed though because we already paid our year $607.

    I am tired of AHS, I have been with them for about 5 years and I have only called them 2 times. And the first time 4 months ago because of my stove and not the contractor did not complete the work, last Wednesday I called them for my washing machine, the contractor came to my house and said that they are going to order the parts and it takes 2-3 days, And today I call the contractor company and they tell me that they do not know when the part that may take more than 15 days or up to 3 months will arrive, now I call AHS and the answer is that we have to wait ... this really does not work anymore. I got tired of so many lies ... if my washing machine really doesn't work? So why not replace it? What if my stove doesn't really work because they don't replace it? They don't want to because I have very expensive appliances and it would cost them a lot more money.

    Do not waste your money with them, the high service fee and poor coverage makes your insurance worthless. Last year my AC was down, they charged 125 bucks service fee and only 10 buck off the refrigerant, and it worked for only five months, and I called back, they told me the warranty to the repair was only good for two months, so I would need to pay another 125 bucks to have someone come over again and figure out what was wrong, I was so mad that I canceled the plan right after. I will NEVER go back to AHS again and suggest anyone who is considering using it gives it another thought.

    AHS dispatched a plumber to this party's residence on this date to diagnose a stoppage which resulted in a broken main sewer line under the slab. The plumber wrote on the invoice provided the cause of damage was "ground movement" which is covered under the policy. However, an AHS Authorizations agent by the name of Kim soon contacted me by phone stating that the sewer line repair would not be covered, as the plumber had advised her the issue was caused by "infiltrated roots".

    There is no mention of infiltration of roots or debris mentioned anywhere on the written invoice. Therefore, AHS is denying this party's claim at this time. This party and other residents are quarantined at this time in the southeast Houston area due to the Coronavirus. Yet, AHS is refusing to finish the job on an Emergency repair with backup sewage. If AHS does not take immediate action, this party stands ready to schedule an arbitration hearing with legal counsel present for negligence, breach of contract, and bad faith claims handling and customer service.     This is regarding the home of my 92-year old mother, whose heating and cooling unit quit working seven (7) months ago, and has yet to be repaired by her home warranty company of many years, American Home Shield (hereinafter “AHS”). AHS has given us the run-around of an extremely unethical, illegal and discriminatory nature from day one. We considered hiring an attorney; however, that would be very stressful for a 92-year old, and attorney fees could result in excess of the claim amount with AHS.

    In October of 2019, our heating and cooling system broke. We called AHS to report the claim, and we requested that they send out A/C & Appliance to evaluate the unit, as AHS had sent them to us in the past and they were excellent -- very knowledgeable and honest. AHS totally disregarded this request and, with no explanation to us, sent “ABC Company” (hereinafter “ABC” - not real name) out to our home. After approx. 20 min, ABC reported that the unit was beyond repair -- it was a fire hazard and could not be turned on again.

    Before I heard back from AHS, the receptionist at ABC called and said the equipment to replace our system had arrived. The parts (inside and outside units) were of different brands, which we didn’t like, and it made us think they already had the mismatched units in their inventory; and, then the shocker came when the receptionist said we would have to personally pay an additional approx. $3,000, out-of-pocket, for getting the system “up-to-code.” I requested that the manager call me about this and the receptionist said she would have him call me, but he never did. I kept calling, but no one ever called me back.

    I next called AHS and again told them that we wanted to have AC & Appliance handle our repairs (they were an AHS contract service provider), and AHS said they would send them out to the home, but we would have to pay another $75 deductible. We agreed, paid the second $75 deductible, AC & Appliance came out, and they agreed that the system was “dead.” They said they would repair our system with the AHS determined claim amount, and get it “up-to-code” for no more than an additional $1,000, out-of-pocket from us.

    That settled it for us; we were going to use AC & Appliance. I, therefore, called AHS again, and informed them that WE HAD TO HAVE A/C & Appliance handle our repairs, and we had the right to choose companies that were in their network; and, we had paid AHS a second $75 deductible for them to send AC & Appliance to our home for a damage determination. AHS immediately, adamantly said NO, that we HAD TO USE ABC. I informed them that, no matter what, we were NOT going to use ABC. We did not trust them for the foregoing reasons. It was very obvious that, not only was ABC their “preferred” service provider, they were the ONLY service provider in our area. It seemed that AHS was in cahoots – practicing collusion with ABC, by denying us our right to use an AHS-contracted service provider of our choice.

    AHS stated that if we didn’t agree to use ABC (and pay the approx. $3,000 out-of-pocket), then we would have to take the “cash-out” option, which they would not tell us what they had determined that was. After calling repeatedly -- no less than 20+ times, waiting on-hold forever – at least an hour per call before speaking with AHS rep-after-AHS rep promising to have someone call me back, NO ONE CALLED ME BACK!!!! Finally, at the beginning of January, 4 ½ months later, an extremely nice representative named “ABC,” did what she promised. She called and left the message that our “cash-out-check” was approx. $2700. I have this phone call recorded.

    I called AHS back and told them we would accept this cash-out option, but they said the amount had to be reduced by $600, because of the initial (and only) visit by ABC (of no more than 30 min.) to evaluate our system, and that we would not receive any money until proof that our system repairs had been completed.

    I told this AHS rep that reducing the cash out option by that extreme amount was outrageous! I advised her of the recorded message from “ABC” -- that our check amount from AHS would be approx. $2700, and she said she’d call me back immediately after speaking with her supervisor. I argued with her to let me speak with the supervisor myself, and she said no way – no customer can ever speak with the supervisor; it all had to go through her, the “cash-out” phone representative.

    I have continuously called again and again, and all the reps have stated that someone would call me back; a couple of them promised that they, themselves would call me back, since they agreed that the reduction of $600 for the one visit from CK was absurd, but to no avail. No supervisor has called me back, nor has any other customer service rep. returned my calls.

    The house is five years old. The original builder had covered a GFCI outlet with sheetrock which nobody caught. There was a ring series of outlets that didn't work and the people that sold the house apparently just lived with it. When we moved in, we saw that there were several boxes that didn't work. It was a very complicated fix and the guys from Preferred Electrical figured it out. They were able to trace out the lines, found the hidden box, cut a hole in the sheetrock and were able to install the right thing to put the system back into order. It was fantastic. They were super professional, quick, prompt, efficient and very organized. I couldn't have been happier.

    My experience with my recent claim with AHS has been very good. We’ve had the contractors out twice. One was they did the ceiling fans and the other was the electrical fixture in the kitchen on the ceiling. We were very happy with the encounter. We had no problems at all. Sometimes, the service of AHS is not real fast because Willows is a little remote from some of those providers. The nearest reasonable-sized city is Chico, which is at least 45 minutes to an hour away. So, sometimes, it’s hard for them to assign people to come out here. But they’ve been good for us. We’ve had AHS for over 10 years now.

    We weren't feeling any heat and we could smell an exhaust odor. I called Home Shield and I got somebody on the phone but his English was bad and he didn't understand. He was rude and he got frustrated 'cause I was trying to explain to him. He asked me where my furnace was to which I said I had no idea. That really sent him over the top. Then he asked if he could place me on hold. We've had AHS for years and I've never had that problem before. So I went online instead.

    The guy who came was very informative. I still smell exhaust but he told me what to do as far as getting the air to flow better. I also didn't know that the filters needed to be cleaned and nobody ever told me that. So when we took it out, it was a disgusting nest. We pulled the filter out and cleaned it and then put it back in and it was a whole lot different. Other than Mr. Let Me Place You On Hold 15 times, my experience was awesome. I placed the claim, I got an email and the contractor called me immediately and they were here.

    American Home Shield does a very good job and that’s why we stayed with them all these years. Their contractors get here as soon as they can. I know they're busy and they're coming from different places, but they call and they set up the appointment to see if it’s okay and they're usually here right on the dot. We had a guy from S&S Appliance fix the thermostat on the dryer. Also, the washer was all rusted out around the top. It was pretty raunchy-looking and was getting on the clothes. So I thought I'd better see about it while I was getting my dryer check too. The guy said that it was due to bleach splashing back up around the top. Since it was just due to rust, it wasn't claimable. So I ended up getting a new washer on my own. Other than that, the contractor was a very nice man. He called before he came and made sure everything was cleaned up afterward.

    We’ve enjoyed AHS. We’ve always had good results with them. We had somebody come out and take a look at the air conditioner. It's covered and we're trying to decide what to do which is to either go through the repairs or just use the amount towards a new unit. About 6 weeks ago, I did a claim on the weekend for a dryer that was cutting off. They called me Monday morning to schedule a visit. The tech cleaned all the lint from around the motor, which could have been making the motor to get too hot. If the motor gets too hot, the sensor turns off so it doesn’t start a fire. The tech got it where it wouldn’t get too hot in there and I felt really good about his work. I got honest advice and he fixed the issue. I had a family member telling me good things about him as well.

    BW Air & Heat came out for an AC repair. They said that it needed so many gallons of Freon and American Home Shield covers around $10 a gallon and I would owe a certain amount.     We were doing a little laundry, and my daughter had heard a sound. We weren’t quite sure what had happened. When we went to turn the dryer back on, the drum inside with the clothes wouldn’t spin. I filed the claim online and I like AHS' website. It’s super-easy to follow. After I submitted the claim, I got an email that the contractor would contact me within 24 hours, and it was only a couple hours. They had called me and set up an appointment for them to come out and repair it. The tech was good and I really liked him. As soon as he came in, he knew exactly what was wrong and what was going on.

    My husband was leaving to do some military training for 6 months so he got AHS as a backup. In case anything happened, I wouldn’t have to worry about it. AHS has helped us with our water heater and air conditioner at our previous address that we started at, and now, with the dryer over here. So, it’s been a super-fast and a super-simple process. There are no issues. I’ve already referred a couple of people to AHS. I've told them that I’ve been really happy with the service.

    Airmax Inc. came out on three different occasions and it was not a very good experience for me. The first time they came out, they fixed an igniter and the problem seemed to be fixed. My heat worked for three days then they had to come back out a second time. They said the control board had burnt up, so they had to replace it too. They said everything was done and it was fixed. They left and four hours later, my house still was not heating. It was getting somewhat better though. The temperature went up five degrees, but it was still another five degrees off of what it was supposed to be. Still having to run our heaters, we were cold and I called the company again on a Friday to ask if that was normal. They were closed, so nothing happened until Monday.

    Monday, I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. The lady that answered the phone did not speak very good English. I've been with American Shield for four years and whenever I had any problems and every time I called in, I’d always gotten somebody who spoke English. If they had gone outside the United States to hire people, they should at least have somebody that is going to be working these claims speak enough English where you can understand them. I asked the lady very nicely, at least 10 times, if I could please speak to a supervisor or be transferred to someone else whom I could understand what they were saying. She kept on insisting to explain things to me again and I didn't understand her.

    I told her that I needed American Shield to contact the company and to get them to come back out. The conversation went on for approximately 15 minutes. I kept on asking to speak to somebody else and she never would. Finally, I hung up and called back to get somebody else who could speak better English. Just my luck. I got the exact same person again, so I was talking to her again, and I asked to speak to her supervisor. She said that there was no supervisor, that there was only her. I could hear people talking on the background, so I asked to speak to somebody else. She asked me to hold on and she would try to help me again. She then came back on the line and told me that I was mistaken, that the order was not completed on Friday.

    She said that Airmax had provided paperwork stating that they had to order the control panel and they would be out to my place on Monday to replace the part. I told her that was not what happened then she said she would make a phone call to Airmax and put me on hold. I held for about 10 minutes and she came back to the line. She said she just spoke to the company and she gave me an eight-hour period that day that the company will be out at my property. I tried to tell her that Airmax told me Friday that the job was completed. The rep said no, they did not. I asked if she was calling me a liar. She said she wasn't and that she was just telling me she spoke with the company, and the company stated that that was what was going on. I told her that was not what was conveyed to me and she said there’s only been a miscommunication.

    I asked when exactly it was that the company was going to come out. I work fulltime and I needed to make sure somebody would be at the house if they were coming back out. She got hot and heavy, and she hung up the phone on me. I called back a third time and a male rep picked up the phone, checked my order and put me on hold. I was on hold for about 20 minutes when Airmax called me back because of the message I left them Friday evening. I talked directly to the company, and they said they had not spoken to anyone at American Shield that morning. They stated that the order was completed on Friday. They were not planning on coming back out to my house on Monday and there was absolutely no miscommunication.

    By that time, I was in tears, crying to the company. The company said they would make it right and that if I was still having issues, they would send somebody out that day. They explained to me that American Shield does not have you replace the name brand part, that they make you go with an off-brand part. They said they would purchase the name-brand part, put it back on my heater, and see if that would work. They said they would take this hit from their office personally because of American Home Shield’s screw-up. At that point. I didn't care who the screw-up was. I just needed heat in my house. Airmax replaced the control panel with a brand-name and once they did that, the igniter went back out again. They had to leave, get a different igniter and put that one on. Since they did that, my heat has been working just fine.

    American Shield called me, their customer, a liar when I was not lying. I was telling them exactly what was going on, which the company confirmed that what I was saying was true. They said that while they put me on hold, they contacted the company and the company told them they had plans on coming back out to visit with me. That was a lie. When Airmax finally called me back, they stated they had not spoken to anybody at all from American Shield. I was very frustrated by the time all of this was said and done. I wanted to let them know what was going on and I tried to contact the headquarters, but I could not get a different telephone number.

    I love American Home Shield. I've been with them for over 15 years and I tell people all the time about the company. They’re awesome. It’s a great way to protect your assets and investments. It’s, so far, the best home warranty that I’ve ever used. They have a low deductible and a high variety of products that are covered. They should improve their billing though. It is inconsistent, like with credit cards falling off. Their online service is not updated on their computers. The things online showed that I owed a balance but that did not reflect in their databases. In fact, I had a really bad experience with the customer care department. They said that I didn't owe a balance and I trusted what they were saying but then online, it said that I did and my credit card got deducted. That was not concurrent with what the the reps were saying. They refunded me the money but in the process, they also removed my autopay.

    I canceled a service but two months after, they took the money for the $100 deductible. I was calling because it was still showing it online. Then the system took it and put my account into overdraft. Then I couldn’t pay the monthly service. It was a one-off odd thing that happened but it was enough for me to say I was about to cancel. However, they did kind of extend it and I finally got the check. I had to do four phone calls and it was annoying and inconvenient. But it's pretty good for 15 years. Another thing is that with some of the technicians they send out, the companies are pretty lofty. But then that goes with any company if you choose a service repair guy and then you’re calling somebody else because he didn’t do the job right. So I don’t blame that on American Home Shield. They’re a fantastic model of a company.

    American Home Shield has been responsive. We had a duct that was detached in our garage or had holes in it. I called to have that repaired. The guy just duct-taped it back and that was his repair. So, that was a little annoying to pay $100 to have somebody come out and duct-tape something that had already been duct taped together.

    We also had a refrigerator issue and AHS was really good. We called them and then we thought we could fix it, and we canceled, and then we called them. And then an hour later, they have someone out pretty quickly, so I don't really have any complaints against them. We were trying to figure out when to use them and when not to use them. It’s been pretty quick and easy for the most part.

    When you get online to report a problem to AHS, they tell you that in 24 to 36 hours, somebody will contact you. Usually, it’s a lot quicker than that, but you don’t ever talk to anybody from the warranty company. If I had a serious problem such as a busted pipe that was leaking all over the house, they wouldn’t be the kind of warranty company I would wanna deal with. Their process is impersonal. Other than that, my experiences with the contractors that they sent out have been 50-50. The air conditioning guy who came out really good but the plumbing company was a shady fly-by-night place. They unclogged the toilet and it took them about four hours to finish. So they did the job and did it all right, but they were a little scary. Also, it didn’t seem like they had real commercial-grade equipment and most of the stuff they had were from Home Depot.

    I had AHS contract for the past 5 years and service and response is good, but the contractors that they hire have had or has very bad rating specially when they are hired by the AHS and sent to their customers homes. They try to cheat the end customers by poor service or incompetent with the contractors services- either they are requested by AHS to reject the work order through warranty service -I had numerous request from fixing the refrigerator, faulty electric breaker, leaking faucet, garbage disposal and exhaust fan for which they either failed to repair saying it was no covered or took almost 8 months to get it done right. I would suggest that one would need to check the ratings of the contractors that AHS send before you let them in your home. I would not recommend AHS - as I mentioned this company does not see the rating and reviews of the company that they subcontract.

    The person that AHS sent out for our recent claim kept saying it was the pump, so he changed the pump out, put a new one in, but the same thing happened. It wouldn’t stay long enough for it to run a cycle or two. I got upset and then he said, “you're gonna have to figure something else out.” So, I called AHS. The new technician came in and as soon as he opened it up, he knew what was wrong. They were using the wrong pump. They were using an old one that was all plastic and it would only last for a little bit. And he put the right pump in and we haven't had a problem since. I've been with AHS for a long time. I got a house that’s 40 years old and things have happened and I kept renewing just in case. And we’ve had some of those in-case deals and we've been able to get them to get the people out here and get things straight. I’m satisfied with AHS.
