I was having trouble getting the air conditioning to come on in the house. They’ve worked on it on a few other occasions since we bought the house, but it's an older system. This was the third time they came out for the air conditioner. When Piedmont Mechanical came, they diagnosed the problem in the first trip, and then they came back and replaced the motherboard controller. All is well. So far, my coverage with AHS has been worthwhile. You just call or make an online request and shortly thereafter, you’d get a response from them. It's a pretty good system.

I’ve been in this house for eight years and I've had American Home Shield since. It’s easy to call them if I have repairs that need to be done to my house and it’s a lot less expensive than calling someone directly. If I ask them to add a note to my account, like I don’t want Sears ever coming to my house or I like Blue Star Plumbing, they know to put that into my account, if I have a plumbing issue, to call Blue Star, because I trust them.
Overall, the contractors have been really good and there were only two I didn't like. American Home Shield is decent but they need to do a better job at vetting some of the companies they contract with. There's one particular company that came to my house four times, and finally, I told them I’m done with them. I read reviews about them and a lot of American Home Shield customers were saying that they were awful. They need to digest the reviews that they're getting from their customers biannually and sometimes do an overhaul of who they have contracts with.

SJDI Electric came out for our electric issue and he fixed all the problems. He knew exactly what to do and took care of it. We were very happy. As our house is getting older, having AHS is saving us money. My only complaint is I didn’t realize the different levels there were and something that I thought was covered was not covered. I need to be more aware of the different parts of it.

Appliances constantly keep breaking and my husband decided he’s not gonna be fixing those so I decided to get American Home Shield. Recently, the dryer wasn’t spinning and I filed the claim online. I love the website. It's so much easier than getting on the phone. AHS sent me the text message when the contractor would be coming to my house. Sears came out and they were great. No complaints at all. I already recommended AHS to three of my friends.

We called American Home Shield and within 24 hours, somebody was there. The contractor came out the day after but the part that needed to be replaced for the heating that we needed took four days and it was pretty cold. There was nothing we could do about that but they came with the part and replaced it, and it has been working fine since then. The technician was very professional, did his work that he needed to get done and was in and out fairly quickly. Everything seemed to have been done the way we were expecting it to be done.

I am discounting my business relations with AHS effective immediately! After almost 20 years as a customer, I am extremely frustrated that I have paid money into a scheme that offers none of the peace of mind advertised. I called in January 2020 after observing my water heater pipe leaking. I paid the $75 evaluation fee and a plumber from Mayes Plumbing was dispatched. I later received a rambling phone message from an AHS representative who listed all of the “other” parts needed but were not covered by my AHS plan & out of pocket costs. I called AHS back and asked for the list to be emailed to my address (the same one you send the newsletter to) and I was told it could not be emailed but that it would be sent out via US Post. That was in January and the list of parts needed & out of pocket costs still has not arrived.
On 3/13//2020, I called Mayes Plumbing to schedule appointment after my travels concluded. I spoke to Tony in scheduling who repeated the list and out of pocket costs. Tony also promised to email “the list” but it never arrived. Later, Tony shared that he did not have schedule for week of 3/23/20 available so I should call back the following week and check availability. I asked Tony if the $75 evaluation fee would be deducted from the cost quoted? Tony stated that the $75 was paid to AHS not Mayes Plumbing but he could offer a 10% discount on installation of new hot water heater if I paid with cash.
On 3/23/2020, I called Mayes Plumbing again to schedule the installation appointment. I spoke to a young woman who shared that now I needed to obtain a flue inspection by another vendor before the installation could take place. This is another cost that AHS does not cover. I am very wary of the burgeoning costs. It's absolutely unacceptable. AHS has failed me and I plan to discourage friends, family and strangers from investing in the fraudulent scheme.
We do apologize for the inconvenience. We also do apologize the agent was not clear in explaining the out of pocket costs. We know water heater issues and many other issues can be a hassle. We do thank you in sharing your experience with us and would be more than happy to speak with you to come to a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further with this matter.

We called AHS on Feb 20th regarding a water pipe leak. They said it is covered under warranty, and requested we pay $125 before they would send a plumber. The plumber came the next day, and said the issue was not covered under warranty, and it would cost us $1500 to repair it. We called another plumber who said he could fix it for $400, which he did. We asked AHS to refund us the $125 service call fee since the first plumber would not fix it under warranty. They said it is under review, yet it has been 5 weeks. My husband has called multiple times and just gets the runaround.
Karen,
Thanks for providing your feedback. I am sorry to hear that we have not provided a suitable resolution for your malfunction. I have sent an email to you regarding your request. Please respond to that email at your earliest convenience.

The technicians identified the problem with the heater, fixed it, and even did a little service while they were here. They were very nice. There were no additional charges, except for when I had them change the filters which you didn’t pay for. It went very smoothly. Other times, when you had a bigger problem, it was a little bit more difficult.
When I’ve had a water heater issue, that was a lot more difficult. They jack up the prices when they come because they have to do it all legal. Most people don’t take permits just to change a water heater. I had to go and hire my own person to come do it, and then get reimbursed from your company. AHS paid me for the cost of the water heater but not the installation. I’ve learned what you get and what you don’t get and I’ve stayed with Home Shield. Other than that everything’s fine.

For my plumbing issue, the contractor did a good job and fixed the problem. However, their first time out didn’t resolve the issue, but the second time did. And when they came back out, they weren't here for more than 40 minutes.

Submitting claims was a snap. It was much easier than I anticipated. What American Home Shield advertises is basically what you get. You can do your claims both on the phone or online. You put in a claim and they come right out to evaluate the situation. If they can fix something, they’ll repair it. If not, they’ll replace it. But they should improve the time-lapse. My refrigerator went out and it took me almost a month to get a new one. And even when I kinda agreed to go buy one, they’d just reimburse me. It was like, “You try to be almost a month without a refrigerator.” They sent a technician out here and he said that they had to order a part. That took a while. Once they found out that the part was no longer made, that took a whole lot of time to get corrected. I was without a refrigerator for all that time when I could have gone and bought one then they could have just reimbursed me. But they have their rules and their policies.

I like that with AHS, once they fix something and you have a problem, they’ll come right back out with no hesitation and check it out as many times as they can. They sent out Air Majesty for my upstairs air conditioning, which wasn't cooling. The contractor was very professional and answered all my questions. He did everything on the spot and also gave me tips.

High Altitude Plumbing recently came out for a leak in an upstairs bathroom. It was coming through the ceiling downstairs, so it was very critical. They came right away and they did a great job. Then I discovered my other toilet downstairs had a small leak I could see on the floor. So they came back and did that one too. They came out the same day. One guy left and then the other one came about two hours later. I would recommend them. I’ve already told people about them. They were great. It was a wonderful experience.

Ray Stovall Plumbing came out for a plumbing issue and I feel much better about him than previous contractors that AHS has brought to us. Ray was very honest, efficient, professional, and accommodating. He's supposed to come back and install the showerhead. Other than that, it went really well. A previous contractor claimed that the issue with my faucet was covered by a lifetime warranty from the faucet company, but that wasn't true. Ray obviously knew what he was doing, what the issue was, and that the parts, which were not under a lifetime warranty, needed to be replaced. Moreover, he found the correct part on the very same day, came back and replaced it very quickly.
AHS should consider replacing the appliance after replacing the same part for the fifth time. It's a lost cause, but you're paying $75 for people to come in to replace the part over and over again. I purchased an AHS plan for up to two years. My two years will be in May of this year. I haven't renewed it yet but I'm planning to renew it soon.
Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your service request. I prefer submitting my claims to American Home Shield over the phone, and their reps are fantastic and great to work with. The guy from Repair Solutions is usually here within a day. He looked at both the washer and the dryer. The washer was leaking and the dryer was making a sound like it was gonna take off. The dryer was an easy fix. The washer, on the other hand, was a little bit of a problem. The seal wasn’t sitting quite right, but he was great in dealing with it. He came back and checked it out, and he never complained. He also called us to make sure everything was good. I like him. He has also worked on our refrigerator that went out, and he was wonderful to deal with. He came and looked at it, ordered the part, and then he was back within the same week. Everything is working great.

The gas company reported a leak and they complained that because of that, they shut down the HVAC. They were also complaining that the heater was not working. So, there were calls to come and check if there was any. When the contractor came, I showed him where the equipment was located. He went ahead and told me that he was gonna test for a leak. When he was done, he explained the product he used and the reaction that showed that there was no leak at all. Then, he explained that one of the tubes were into something and they were not supposed to be in. He had to take them out.
So far, the only issue that I’ve had with American Home Shield is that the contractor for the water heater took too long to get here. I had to spend more than a week without warm water and when they came, they discovered that some of the equipment I needed were bad. That took much longer again for it to get here. I have to use a water heater to warm my water before I could take a shower. So, that was hard for me. The agent was recommending that I wait for a service fee for HVAC to go through before I go ahead. But I couldn’t stay in the cold and also, the contractor could only work mornings and it’s unrealistic because I’m off to work during that time. So far, the guys at AHS have been nice but I wasn’t comfortable with the waiting time.

I submit claims with Home Shield online and then a contractor usually comes out in one to two days. A-US came to check our air conditioning unit which wasn’t working properly. He was professional. But when he called me back, he was not. I wasn’t satisfied with his diagnosis. Home Shield called to tell me what I would be out of pocket, and then I expressed my concerns and they relayed that information to the company. The very next day, the tech called me back and I told him that we were seeking a second opinion.
He just laughed at me and said that the lady I talked to at Home Shield and the person who suggested we get a second opinion both didn’t know what they were talking about. He just said, “I'm sure we’ll be hearing from you to get this installed.” We ended up going with our second opinion because with that air conditioning company, we would have been out of pocket $1,600. With the air conditioning company we ended up using, we were only out of pocket 245. And both of our units are being replaced outside and inside, which they were both needed, not just the upstairs unit.
American Home Shield found that company when I asked for the second opinion. I asked them for somebody closer to us because the first company that we did not like came from Dallas. The second company was from Cooper, which is a smaller town and they had better rates as opposed to a bigger city company. They found somebody closer to us and we’re 100% satisfied. I was 100% satisfied with our second opinion and the company that we used to do it. We like Home Shield a lot. We just bought a house and the person we bought from purchased the home warranty, but we’ve also used them in the past at our recent house that we sold.

I like the AC contractors. They did exactly what they needed to do and fixed things that were not right. They were very good. I had them come back a second time to make sure it was good for the summer coming up. It sounded like it was making funny noises but the guy opened up the air handler and it's all mildew. It's 20 years old and we're contemplating just buying a new system.
I've had American Home Shield since April 11th of last year and I just had two service calls. I had one right after I bought the place and they added a pound of cooling chemical in the lines. There were also some leaks in the garage. Leaving the air handler part going up to the ceiling, there were breaks in the material holding the ductwork going up to the attic. They fixed all that and they did a good job. Overall, I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield.

With AHS sometimes you get somebody who understands what’s going on and they ask the right questions and sometimes, they don’t. I had one gal tell me she was going to work on something and get notes in, but she didn’t follow through. I called the next lady and that representative was on it. She handled the business and got everything taken care of.
I previously filed a claim for the water heater and the Honey Bee tech was friendly and very professional. For another claim AHS sent someone to our house that was absolutely horrible. He was disrespectful, dirty and gave a bad diagnosis. It was terrible. When I called back for this service, I told them Jacobs Plumbing is not allowed at my house. Their technician is not allowed around my family. He was unprofessional. I don’t know why American Home Shield would ever do business with that guy.

The plumber was very, very nice and very respectful, but I was glad my husband was here because he wanted to do things that really made no sense. We kinda knew where the leak was coming from and it was just common sense to us. We have a crawlspace underneath our house. The night that I called to make an appointment with the contractor, my husband had crawled underneath the house and he saw where it was coming from. So when the plumber got here, I told him where my husband crawled underneath the house and where the leak was coming from. The plumber crawled underneath the house too and he said he could see where the ground was wet and we should look right above that. But he wanted to cut a hole in our subfloor. But we have crawlspace.
When he was telling me this, I told him to hang on and I called my husband and made him come home. So my husband came home and he told the plumber what he needed to do. But to satisfy him, he cut a hole on the wall on the dining room side. We already knew that it was coming from the bathroom side of the wall, so it was completely on the other side. There’s like a stem wall in the middle of our house and the south side was our dining room and the north side was our bathroom. But it has to be coming through our bathroom and not our dining room because there’s no plumbing in our dining room. But that’s where he wanted to cut the hole in the wall.
When they finally went into the bathroom side wall, we saw it right away. We had the water turned off. As soon as we noticed we had a leak, we turned off the water and turned it on when we needed it. So the plumber opened up the wall and we turned on the water, and you could see where it was squirting down on the back side of the shower nozzle where you turn on the water in the shower. He didn't have any supplies on his truck but he said he couldn’t go buy one. So my husband went out and got a plug so we can plug it to turn our water back on. In the meantime, he said he had to order the part. He was supposed to show up today to put in the part that he had to order and connect the copper to the pipe that he ordered.
As of right now, I would still recommend American Home Shield, only because when I first called to make an appointment for the plumber, the plumbing company did get back to me the day after but it was in the evening when I called. But then they wanted to wait four days, so I called American Home Shield and told them it wasn't gonna work because it’s our water, and they got it expedited.

The heat went off and it turned out it was a gas valve up in the unit wasn’t allowing any gas to come in from outside to turn on the heat. The tech did a good job. He was fairly quick to come out after I called in the claim. It took him a day to do the job because he found the problem and then had to go back to the office the following morning to make sure the unit was the proper unit and then, he brought it out and hooked it up and it was fine.
The tech was a very nice, young kid. He was very friendly. He was alert and he knew what he was doing. He got some coaching from over the phone to make sure it was the proper utensil to stick in there and he was fine. He offered to come back at some other time and made sure our air conditioning was gonna be fine for the summertime. So I was very pleased and content at how this was fixed. American Home Shield came with the house 30 years ago and they didn’t fix anything which was very frustrating. I haven’t had them again until I purchased this house and I've used them a couple of times. I'm probably paying more for it because the things I've had fixed have been small and would have been $70. I've probably not saved any money, but it's just peace of mind.
When I had an electrical issue that happened five months ago, Beacon Hill Electric came out and they didn’t find the problem. They just flipped the breaker. I was frustrated. The guy wasn't sure he found what was wrong. He said that if in 30 days it would happen again, he could fix it at no charge. It was just a waste of my money but they were nice enough about it. Once it happened again, all of a sudden, I realized the guy was looking for a light, and I figured it out. When I called him and pointed it out, he fixed it and that fixed everything.

We had a leak in the air conditioning and I called Home Shield on a Friday. It was a series of automated prompts and it said that I would have information on when they were coming within 24 hours. Affordable Comfort came and did a good job. We noticed the drip before we were having any cooling issues with the AC, but we would have started experiencing some issues. The drip pan was clogged, so it was leaking internally, and they had to fix it.

We have been with American Home Shield for 12 years and when something couldn't be fixed, they would replace the product without any problems. The service call fee of $75 is okay and it’s awesome when it doesn't go over. But AHS should find different contractors and should not use people who are gonna rip you off. We had to get a water heater replaced and we came out of pocket way too much. We were kinda stuck because our water had literally been off for probably a week. The contractor didn't contact us and they overcharged us. I wrote a review on their website and everybody was saying that they were a rip-off. I didn't know that then and it was too late. Also, we have a pretty good-sized town here that you would think AHS would use more local, but they use more out of town.
The last time we got our heater fixed, which is the recent experience, the overall experience with that company went good. The guys cleaned up after themselves and they didn’t overcharge us. They had good deals and they asked us for something that they needed to do. They said it would cost another 100 and we declined it, which I'm glad they didn't just tack it on and then not tell us.

A ceiling fan and a light fixture were both out. I filed a claim with AHS and the process was easy. Then after a couple of days, the tech from Strong Tower came out. He was great, very professional, and very nice. Since then, everything has been going perfectly and we love the fixtures. So far, we’ve been very satisfied with AHS. But the last contractor that we had for a plumbing issue cut into the drywall in our bathroom. And he said that he let American Home Shield know and they were sending somebody out to patch that drywall. But they never did and we still got the hole. It's not in a very conspicuous spot, so we'd forget about it, and that wasn’t his fault. I hadn't followed up much on it either but that’s something that Home Shield was supposed to do.

Submitting the claim online was quick, and On Time Plumbing & Heating was great. The service was good and they were prompt. They were out here that day and had it fixed. I was satisfied with the timeframe. The guy was swamped and there were some more issues that he was not able to take care of, but I was able to take care of them. American Home Shield said that I could do three plumbing claims at one time, but they should allow you to file more than that. There are four sinks in the house and if all four are leaking, they will say that I will have to do each sink individually as a claim. But then, they only let you do three.

I called AHS and spoke to a live person for a slab leak. They said that the contractor would call me within 24 hours. I was disappointed with First American Plumbing. Lonnie, the plumber, did a good job and checked everything out. He explained what he was doing and then told me that I had a slab leak, which I knew. He told me that their solution was to tunnel under the house, under the slab, to get to the leak and repair it. He also told me that it would cost me $8,666. He said that if I paid him the $8,000 that day, I'd have a 10% discount. I talked to my wife and he went to the car to call AHS. Then AHS called me and said that they talked to the plumber. I said that $8,666 was kinda high and that I was gonna get a second opinion.
I called my insurance company, and they said that they’d send somebody out to look at it. The one they sent somebody did the same thing that Lonnie did. I was told that I could get the repair done for less than $8,666 with a plumbing bypass through my attic and through the walls. I was told that it would cost $2,088 and I could get it done in one day. Other than that, I’m satisfied with AHS.

I've had American Home Shield for a while. A couple of years ago, I used them. I called about for the hot water heater again. I couldn't understand why AHS wanted to go back with the same hot water heater. I wanted to have a different one because this was the third time with this particular hot water heater, and I didn't wanna go with it anymore, but I had to go with it because that was what they wanted to help me with.
Another thing, I didn't know that I had to go and put in the report online. I didn't know how that was going to work but I was contacted by AHS immediately to assign someone to come out. It's been working pretty well. Recently something wasn't working and J & A Appliance did what they came out to do. It went well. My husband seems to be satisfied.

I wasn’t home and my wife let the technicians from Three Brothers in. They were our contractor for this claim. They seemed to be quick and in and out. The only thing was we are in Houston and it was getting warm. We couldn't get someone out for a couple of days but that was because Three Brothers was all booked up. That was the only delay. Other than that, everything worked fine. Our AC has been working since then. I’ve had a good experience so far with AHS. Home Shield's process seemed pretty easy. However, we've had to kick one contractor out of our house. He was sent to us and was just very problematic, caused more problems to our equipment than in the beginning, and there were multiple lawsuits against him in our town. I found out as I was complaining on social media about that guy. And then, when a year and a half or so later I had a problem with our HVAC and put in the online form, Home Shield sent that same guy back out so we had to cancel that. They don't have a way to permanently block a contractor from coming out. I would have to call and do it manually.
Home Shield apologized. They canceled out the order and put in an order with a different contractor, but that was it. They should improve that type of process so if we ever had problems with our HVAC unit, I wouldn't have to call the. Instead, I can use their online technology because that has significantly improved over the last couple of years.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for any inconvenience we might have caused. If your issue is unresolved, please contact us for assistance. Have a great week.

Our dryer stopped working one time. We also had an issue with our ice maker in our refrigerator. It made ice but then the ice would start melting on the bottom of the tray. So, we would get this huge block of ice that forms. Every two or three days, I would have to go in, pull the ice tray out and chunk up all the ice to get it out so that we could get new ice in it. We submitted a claim through American Home and they sent out an appliance repairman who has really poor reviews on Yelp about his timeliness and his ability to perform repairs. He said that he had to order a part for the dryer which he did. It came two weeks ago and he came back and repaired the dryer. He then said that the issue was not the part that he replaced but the motor. I don't understand how he didn’t troubleshoot that right away.
For the refrigerator, he said that the issue was a compressor and he is still waiting on that part. We understand the parts that they're ordering are being affected by Coronavirus. We are also being affected because my wife developed some symptoms and she got tested. We’re waiting on her test to come back. Meanwhile, we’re supposed to show up at a certain place, we have to wash laundry and I do not have a way to dry it.
If AHS' tech is troubleshooting, I expect him to troubleshoot everything that could be wrong. It’s their job to know. I called American Home Shield because the technician said that I could call AHS and ask them if it would be easier to replace the appliance when I called him to ask about the part and how we were progressing. AHS said that the decision comes from him. I told AHS that the tech said that the decision comes from AHS. Plus, when I called, the rep had a really thick accent. I didn't have a problem with that but she sounded like she was on a cellphone connection. She kept dropping in and out.
We eventually worked that issue out and she called the appliance guy while I was on the phone. According to her though, the appliance guy said that my appliance is still repairable and didn't need to be replaced. I told her that was not what the tech told me on the phone. I told her the tech told me to call AHS to see if it would be better to just get my unit replaced since it was difficult to get parts for it. I've been stuck with a machine that I can't use for four weeks now and AHS won't replace it.
There are many reports on Yelp about the repairman not communicating with customers at all and them having to chase him down. I understand he may be busy but he has a responsibility to the people that he's doing work for. It’s been a nightmare dealing with this. If the tech has such bad reports, AHS should find him and tell him what they expect. If AHS can't do that, they should find someone else to do the job. We’re actually looking at going to see if USAA has homeowner's policies and we're switching to them. It may not be better but at least we know where our premium’s going and we know it comes out of one account. While no one at AHS has been rude to me, there has been difficulty.
We understand that there are things that are going on but no one is communicating with us. A week and a half ago, when I went to my AHS dashboard, it showed that the job has been completed. I called AHS immediately and their rep told me the job was completed. I told them it wasn't. Also, the tech told me when he left that he was gonna order a new motor for the dryer. He was gonna tell AHS that. AHS told me yesterday that they had no record of him ordering a new motor for my driver. The rep had to get that info with him and she told me that the tech said he ordered the part last week. For some reason, AHS's system is showing that it wasn't ordered.
This weekend, my wife is finally getting better. She’s on her 14 days of being quarantined, and she’s pretty symptom-free. But, I still have to go do laundry. I still have to wash our clothing and then take it out somewhere and dry it. We've dealt with a week, maybe two. But now, we’re going on four and we haven’t even seen a repair job yet that worked.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

I recently purchased my home and within the first month of moving in I noticed the inside coating in the cavity of the microwave was peeling. I filed a claim with AHS and they sent a technician out to service it. The next day I was called by AHS telling me that this is not covered under the protection plan that was purchased through my escrow. They also said that the microwave was functioning properly.
After reviewing the online manual through ** (the microwave is a GE product) it clearly states that if the coating is cracked or peeling to immediately stop using the microwave as this means that radiation could be leaking out of the microwave. I called AHS and contested this point with them several times and they continued to tell me that the microwave was working. They clearly could care less about the safety of my family if radiation could be leaking out of the microwave. I have young children and will not risk their health so I purchased a brand new microwave as was recommended by GE. It is unfortunate that a company would not follow the recommendation of the manufacturer of the product they are covering.

We bought this condo that came with the AHS warranty and my wife and I were having a debate last year over whether to renew it or not 'cause I'm typically not a warranty insurance kind of guy. But we have a lot of appliances that are not cheap here and it's a roll of the dice a little bit. The only issue we've had so far is the garbage disposal. Around here, it would cost 500 bucks to get somebody and get it in, and you're jacked around. Recently, we filed a claim and everything went well. When the tech showed up the first time, the garbage disposal wasn't leaking like it had been every single day so he couldn't fix it. We ended up having to call him back and it was leaking like a sieve. When he came back the second time, he fixed it. He was polite, he took his shoes off and he was in and out. He did his job while I was on a conference call. I shoved some nasty stuff through it last night and it's still doing all right.
Also, we live out in Florida where we run our air conditioner year-round. I'm worried about that but we also do maintenance on it twice a year. We've been happy with who we've had and that's what we're talking about the other day. If something went bad with it, they're gonna call somebody in we don't really know and trust. Still, I've been impressed with AHS so far. It's better than I thought it would be. I thought it would be a rigmarole but I was surprised that one phone call got the garbage disposal taken care of. We didn't have to call and beg somebody to come out and end up saying we will do it ourselves.

They’ve done other stuff for us in the past so, they’ve always been good about being on top of getting out here to check on us. The dishwasher was non-repairable so I am waiting for a call for the new one to come in and be installed.
AHS is usually good about getting somebody assigned and getting them on whatever issues that we've had. So, overall, we’ve had good luck with whatever issues we’ve got being handled quickly. We’re happy with our service and it has saved me multiple times. When we bought our first home, we had the home warranty. I was seven and a half months pregnant with my daughter and our AC went out. We called the home warranty and we told them. They said it was an emergency because I was pregnant. It was in the middle of June and July so, they expedited everything for us. We will have this home warranty until we can’t have it anymore. When we sold our other house, we signed on the home warranty beforehand. So, anything that went wrong while we were in the process of selling the house was automatically covered. So, what we have learned is to keep the home warranty until they tell you that they won’t do it anymore.

I've had AHS for over 15 years. But in the past, when I dealt with customer service on the phone, they were not the best. Sometimes, I felt like it was an attitude and it was very frustrating. Because usually when you’re calling, there’s a problem, and it should be people who are understanding and not who are gonna be antagonistic for you, and I find that that’s been the case in the past. People should read the fine print before getting the policy because there are many things that are excluded that you think would be included and then you find out after the fact that they are not.

They would send somebody out and the technician would say that they couldn’t fix it, then our money would not be given back to us. AHS would say that they sent the contractor out and that there was nothing wrong. But they charged us the $75 and they should not do that. They should put a credit on the account.
Right now, AHS sent someone out who tried to fix the garage door opener and the guy said that it couldn't be repaired. They have to replace it. So, I'm gonna give them a call because the guy said that they don't add the battery. By California law, you gotta have a battery backup for the garage door opener and AHS should pay for that. The technician doesn’t think they’re gonna pay for it. So I'm gonna call AHS today, talk to the supervisor and find out why they won't cover the battery backup. Because they have to replace the unit and most of the unit comes with battery backup.
Sometimes, you just wanna talk to the customer service people but not the customer service that answers every day and refers you to a supervisor. They don't explain things. They need to explain a little bit better so people would understand, which is one problem that I have. This just happened recently. My recent claim with AHS went pretty well. The contractor came in. He was very professional and took precautions ‘cause of the virus. And so, he did what he had to do and didn't take long. I haven't had any issues whatsoever with American Home Shield. I also haven't had a problem with anyone that they sent out to my residence. Sometimes, the transferring of the phone calls, they send you to different people. But I understand that’s probably not their level of expertise, so that’s why they have to do a lot of the transferring phone calls. And it’s just part of the process. I recently canceled my policy with them, though, because I’m moving out of this house. I have my brand-new home. But once that is over, I’ll pick American Home Shield back up again.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for at least three years, and I had a problem two years ago and I responded. This is the first claim I've had in two years and it was just fine this time. I scheduled the problem and asked for service online and they were responsive. It came back quickly. The contractor did a very good job. They were very thorough and fast, and I was very pleased with them. I'd call them back.
Good Morning Bart,

My oven had a temperature issue and just wouldn't stop heating. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and found their site very easy to use. That time, I submitted the claim about 5 o’clock in the evening, so I knew The Appliance Guy LLC, AHS's contractor, would be closed. So I called at 8 o’clock in the morning and they fit me in either late that evening or the next day. Their tech Matt was a very nice guy. Things have been working perfectly since he came out. I've been using American Shield since 2004 for two different homes. I had them for 11 years before in Texas and three years here in Wyoming. For this claim however, I didn’t get any notification that they had approved the contract to purchase the parts needed for the repair. Other than that, I like AHS.

Updated on 05/15/2020: Great company. Well last month we put in a worker order for pipe leak behind the washing machine. Had to have asbestos test paid out of pocket so the plumber can come back. Then plumber said, "pipe leak is in the slab." Haven't heard back from him in two weeks 7 weeks and no resolution. The we put in a work order for our Air Conditioner 4 weeks ago. AC tech has been out three times to diagnose and test for leaks, and that's not resolved. The put in a work order for exhaust fan in an attic that's been denied. Exhaust fan tech noticed the duct work was broken. Put in work order for duct repair. Duct repair guy came out Monday and took pictures. Did say there was asbestos on the broken ducts that has to be removed. Still waiting on everything to get done. Can't wait until they take care of everything.
Original Review: We had a problem with the washing machine and the first tech that AHS sent out was from City First. His name was Dmitri and he determined that the washing machine wasn't leaking and that the problem was with a pipe in the wall. Then he arranged to transfer the claim to a plumber. The first plumber who came out was from Up2Code and the guy's name was Eric. When he came, he was not wearing a mask or gloves. Then he asked when the house was built and I told him that I needed to check. And he told me he couldn't do anything until after there was an asbestos test.
I then called an asbestos guy but when he came into the house, he looked to the wall and said he needed $1,500. The name of that company was Best Asbestos Testing and since I wasn't gonna pay him $1,500, he demanded $129 of cash just to leave after 10 minutes. I didn't have any cash at the time, so I was gonna write them a check, but he wouldn't accept the check. Instead, he took a debit card payment. So, I'm not very happy. I then called another asbestos guy and he agreed to come out for 350. But the house was built in 1985 and there is no asbestos. And at the moment, we're waiting for the asbestos guy to come out and test it. He's supposed to call me back to make an appointment. After he comes out, AHS will sent the tech out, prepare the pipe, and put in the new drywall.
I also worked with City First Electric for my cooktop and I spoke with this guy who was the same guy who came out to look at my dryer. He said that it needed a new igniter and that he couldn't find a new igniter both times when I saw him. Then they had a second repairman come out and he said it was abuse. But the first guy didn't put down anything about abuse. And the cooktop is probably 30 years old now and it's not abuse. I paid 350 to get more guys to come out and sent AHS the bill, but they kept denying the claim for 350 over a $20 part. So, if AHS could reimburse me for that, I'd greatly appreciate it. I tried following up with them but my experience sucked. All in all, AHS is great if I need a plumber to come out for a simple clog or to replace something easy, but once something requires a second opinion, the process goes on for months.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

The technician AHS sent from Blue Ridge Mountain is incredible. I had him out here before on another repair with American Home Shield and he did a fabulous job. The big problem though is scheduling. The first time I had them, they were scheduled to arrive on a certain date and time window, and they didn’t come. They also didn’t call, so I started calling when the time window passed. They told me that they had gotten tied up and they’d have to make it the next day.
The next day, that tech showed up and the company apologized for what happened. For my recent claim, the same thing happened. They didn’t call and I took a day off from work. So, I spent the whole day waiting. Finally, I started calling and as it turned out, for the job right before ours, the water main had broken and they're having a hard time getting the city out. Still, Blue Ridge has one heck of a technician in Daniel. The guy knows his stuff and does more than he needs to in terms of making sure everything is right. His checkout is very thorough, makes sure I'm completely satisfied. I would still highly recommend them. Blue Ridge better pay him a lot of money to keep him. So far, everything has been good with our AHS coverage. We've had it for years and years. Every year, we renew it. Some years, we use it. Some years, we don't. But it’s nice to have that confidence that if anything goes wrong, it’s covered without a huge fee. I'm very happy.

I like submitting claims over the phone. Home Shield's reps were very professional. Our spa's pump bearings were very loud and they vibrated. When ABNation first came out, they evaluated and came back two days later and fixed it. Then, they had to bring out a whole brand new one because ours was not fixable and had to be replaced. They were very professional, on time according to what time they were going to be here. It was just a very good experience. Everything was great.

A guy came out and he was clean and professional. He went to the unit outside, opened up the fuse box thing, and flipped a switch that had tripped. I was expecting to have to buy a new air conditioning, but it was a simple fix.

The garage door would not open. When you push the button, it should wanna go up but instead, it couldn’t do it. So I just pulled the cord and manhandled it until K.T.M. Door Control came. The gentleman they sent out was Tim and I really liked him. I told him what the garage door was doing and he diagnosed it by just jumping on the ladder. He looked inside the housing and went, “Yup, that’s it.” He figured what it was by what I said to him. It was the assembly and he fixed it in about 15 minutes. He greased it up real good and it hadn’t sounded that good since I bought my house in 2004. I was very impressed with the speed in which he did it. He also didn’t try to upsell me because I'm a woman or try to tell me I needed rollers. He got the job done that was needed and that was it. He was very nice and polite.
I've had Home Shield since 1999 from the condo that I had. When I moved into my house in 2004, I didn’t have it because I had a warranty with the builder for a year. But when my year was up, I went back to Home Shield and I've had them ever since. I've been with Home Shield since the cost was $35 for a service call. I miss that. But I've always been satisfied with the service and I’ve determined to always keep it, which I have for like 15 years in this house and about five in the other house. So for 20 years I've had Home Shield.
I haven’t used the warranty a lot but on the times I've used the warranty, Home Shield saved me a lot of money. The only time I ever had a displeasure was when some air conditioner man tried to screw me out of $1,000. He was telling me all these things I needed outside of the repair that would be handled by Home Shield. I just looked at him and said I would have to get back with him. Then I called somebody that I knew that was an air conditioner man. He came out, looked at it and said nothing on the list was anything I needed. He said the other guy was just trying to get extra money. I got mad and threw away the name but I wish I'd kept it because if I ever needed something else, I wanna make sure I don’t get that company.
That was the only time I ever ran across one of Home Shield’s vendors that truly saw me as a woman who didn’t know anything and thought he could put this over on me. He wanted to even replace the pan underneath the air conditioner and that pan was not even that old. There was nothing wrong with that pan. Otherwise, I think Home Shield vets the vendors real good. There's always gonna be somebody who slides by but I don't know if that contractor is still with Home Shield or not.
I’ve always trusted Home Shield. I've also completely read the paperwork so I knew what was covered and what was not covered, which is very helpful to know because, in the beginning of time, I would ask if something was covered and they would tell me they wouldn’t know until someone comes out here. Then later, as time passed, American Home Shield did not say those words anymore. They just said, “Oh, yes, ma’am, that’s covered.” It was like the people in the past didn’t wanna tell me what was within the contract. That was when I started reading the contract cover to cover.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

They had to come back a second time and then they found something that was wrong. They ordered more parts, but they have not come back to complete the job yet. It was a Kenmore dryer and for some reason, they were unable to have the dryer delivered and I couldn't pick it up at any place. I tried to go back and get a different kind of dryer and I couldn't find one that worked as well. So, I ended up getting the reimbursement and order the dryer myself. It would have saved me several hundred dollars if I had gotten the dryer through them like originally planned. Also, they're supposed to be sending a check for that but I haven't received it yet. Other than that, the contractor from Bell's Appliance was great and the claim went okay.

My hot water tank went out and it was gonna flood my walk-in closet. With everything else that’s going on in the world right now, it’s a little bit harder with people’s hours being changed. Under normal life experiences, anytime I’ve called their number, somebody always answers right away. But this time, I had a hard time getting ahold of American Home Shield. I realize they’re working from home as well, but I had a much harder time. I spent a good hour trying to reach them to see if they were open. I am one of the people that are completely without income right now due to the situation going on in our country. I didn’t wanna spend that $100 on that service call until I knew for sure that American Home Shield was actually up and running.
I ended up going online and looking for people. Champion was one of the places that worked with American Home Shield. I contacted them and the lady named Andrea answered. She was fantastic and she went above and beyond. She said she has a number that they use and she would try and contact Home Shield and make sure that they’re up and running. She called and it took her some time as well, but she got through to American Home Shield. Then, she called me back and she said to go back on the phone and keep trying to get through to them. I requested her to do the job and she said it was fine. I got back on the phone and thankfully got through to somebody at American Home Shield, explained what I needed, and requested for Champion Plumbing. They set it up and they handled it very expediently. Once that was a done deal, they were able to finally get somebody out here at 3 o’clock in the afternoon that day.
The way my hot water tank is situated needs more than one person to do the job of taking it out and putting in the new one. They were short-staffed because they had a lot of other plumbing jobs already in the works. They had to wait until Monday when they had enough manpower to come back, but they came out. They were very punctual and the people were very courteous. They texted me in advance of them coming to let me know when they would be here. Two guys came out and they were very good. They did everything that needed to be done. I was real pleased with American Home Shield and I was grateful. I'm just grateful I had it because in a situation when things break, it’s never convenient, but this was really pretty big to me because of the fact that I'm laid off from work until God only knows when they let us go back. It was a saving grace for me.

So far, I love my American Home Shield warranty. I had two separate calls with them which I submitted online. One was for an icemaker on my refrigerator door and the other was for my oven. It wasn't that long before a tech came out to look at my issue. He was great. However, my brother doesn't have the same feeling about AHS. He had just bought a home and the owners bought cheap house coverage with AHS. One of his appliances went out and AHS didn't fix it. After asking him though, I found that his problems were because he didn't pay for extras. At the time, we had just bought a house as well but we upgraded our warranty before we closed. Now, we've been in this home for almost two years and the return on investment has been well worth it.

I researched for American Home Shield. There was a lot of good and there was some bad just as well based on the pros and cons and also the amount of coverage I could get. They cover multiple units, they cover my swimming pool, and they’ll cover my septic system. I couldn’t beat it. I think for a long time, it’s going to work because if something bigger is a problem, maybe they are gonna fix it.
Recently the AC made a sound when we tried to turn it on. And sometimes, turned it on, and then turn off. One day, it was turned on, and the next day, it was off. I called the company for my AC and the girl told me I have to call them first, and then they will send the company as soon as possible. It sounded perfect. The company that came was very professional because they sent me a message of the time they will come. I have used American Home Shield years ago in a home that my husband and I had purchased. They were great then. I chose Select the year before when I first moved into this house and they were horrible. It was like pulling teeth to get them to cover anything. But with American Home Shield, you pretty much know up front what they’re gonna do and with this recent claim, I was perfectly satisfied.
I had lights that were flickering and one that you would turn it on and then in a little bit, would turn itself off. These were lined up with each other, one in front of the other on my ceiling, so I thought it might be related. Kingdom Electric came when I didn’t think they would be able to come because COVID-19 had just started. They were considered essential workers, so that was really good for me on my part because I had otherwise a dark kitchen to work in.
As it turned out, it had more to do with the plug. On one of them, the tech worked on it and he said, “I've done everything I can do. The only thing left to do is replace the whole light fixture itself.” He said that American Home Shield did not allow them to do that, if that’s what it needed. Now, it does stop after a second or two, but it is still flickering when I turn it on. The other one’s bright, though. The tech redid some stuff inside it and then worked on the plug itself and said he thought it was probably the plug and that was the problem. They left and it started doing the same thing again, so I called them back. They weren’t very far away so they came back. That was very considerate. Kingdom Electric were great guys.
All in all, I’m very happy and would definitely recommend American Home Shield. The only thing with them, and I think all service providers are the same on that, is for some reason, when it’s an electrical problem, the deductible is raised to $100, and you pay that up front. Maybe they’ve had some problems in the past with vendors not getting paid by the homeowner, or them just wanting to see as to whether or not they should be paid maybe if they couldn’t solve the problem or the problem is laid in an area where American Home Shield would not be responsible. That’s the only throwback I have about it at all. People need to know that up front when they buy their policy. They just need to know and then they make their choice.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

There was a time when the outside part of my air conditioning system sounded like it was rattling. We submitted a claim to American Home Shield on a Friday. It sucked to have to pay $100 upfront when I don't really know how much the service would have cost in the first place. Their tech from Airmax Heating & Cooling came out on a Monday and fixed the issue in 25 minutes. A capacitor was out. However, the receipt the tech gave me didn't even list any costs.
I've used AHS twice now and both of the guys who came were excellent. The tech for the air conditioner was nice. He aimed to do his job assuming he did the correct thing. Now, my AC doesn't rattle anymore. Even so, we have old things that need to be replaced. For instance, when I had a refrigerator guy come, there was nothing he could do because the issue was more related to our ice maker. It would be nice to think that my payments to American Home Shield are coming through in a big way for me.

I have a friend who had American Shield for many years. He lives in North Carolina and he kept telling me sometime ago that I needed to do it because it's really critical for me. In the past, when I did some repairs, it was very difficult for me. First of all, sometimes if something breaks, you never know who to call, so you start looking and asking the neighbors who to call or what company is good or what is not. It's much more troublesome, and here, it's quite straightforward.
My AC stopped cooling and I noticed that the unit with a motor and propeller outside was not even functioning at all. I placed an order online sometime on Friday, in the American Shield website, and within 24 hours, I got the mail and I got a call that the person will be coming. I like the way that it was relatively simple to place an order for the service and the contact between the insurance company and the company who was making that repair was fast.
The communication was good too. The person came on Monday and he handled everything quite well, especially because he and I were both a little stressed by the coronavirus situation. Most of his work was outside so we kept a really good social distance. Essentially, he stepped only one time inside to check the thermostat. Overall, everything was done well and I really liked it.

The homeowner prior to me had an account with American Home Shield and then, we took over. They never had an issue from what I heard and then I never had an issue with AHS. I go on my account online when I submit a claim and it says “Request a service". I push the button and then, I go through the whole information. American Home Shield sends me a message back right away and tells me who they're setting me up with and who the person is who is gonna be coming. Then, I can track them. We’ve had them for a year and we’ve used them twice for an air conditioning and then once for my dishwasher. I’ve had to call in and the contractors came out faster than I expected, which was great. Everything was fixed and done.
A couple of weeks ago, it was hot outside and we had the upstairs AC on. My husband noticed a bit of noise but then when he turned the AC back on again when the gentleman was here, the noise wasn’t there. It seems to be running just fine. It didn’t stop working but there was a noise coming out of it. Then, my husband turned it on the other day to check and there’s still no noise coming from it. The gentleman said it’d probably be better if we record the noise when we’re running it on a hot day. Because it was a cooler day, we couldn’t hear it and it wasn’t running for very long. We could call them when it’s hotter and it is making that noise because they can’t figure out what it is if it’s not running. We were looking to also probably call them back for a service.

We've had had two claims with Home Shield since we’ve been here. We had one right when we moved in. During the first week, the washing machine broke out and we got that fixed. That was really seamless. The most recent was for our fridge. It was still operating but when we pulled it out, the back was wet and rusted and something was wrong with it. The contractor had to come out and it went really smoothly. They verified it was still an existing technical problem that happens with some models. They used to have a repair kit for it, but they don’t repair them anymore. They just warranty them. They called in the warranty and we're getting a new fridge. I took the cash option and I submitted our receipt over email.

We've gotten good service with American Home Shield and so we've had them for about a year or two. Recently, the washing machine was leaking and AHS was very good about the response. I made a phone call. Their operation set up a date for the contractor to call. Universal 1 Repair called and came out and looked at it. The guy took about 10 seconds. He turned the water on and it started coming out right from the bottom. He said it would probably be more expensive to repair it than replace it and we took a regular exchange. We got what we expected. We're happy.

I've been with American Home Shield for two months. Everything went magnificent with Reloaded Appliance. They came out for a washing machine. There was water clogged up, so it would not drain the water, originally. That was the major problem with it. The technician was awesome and was a real gentleman. However, AHS charged me an extra month. They charged me for December twice. They owe me for a month and I've already disputed it with my bank, Chase. They did the claim, but American Home Shield wrote to Chase that it's a valid charge. It's not, and because of that, I'm not happy with AHS. It’s only $44.99 and they should be able to take care of this. It's a shame because I already gave them a great review.

Home Shield was very professional and nice in assisting me because it was my first time making a call. They were very helpful with that. I really like the service. When Myers Comfort Specialist of Montgomery came out the first time, they had to order some parts so it took three days to get the part, and then about an hour for them to do the installation. I'm very satisfied with that. My mom was there. She doesn’t like people when they come around and I’m not home, but they were very nice and she wasn’t fearful of them. AHS had an offer for air conditioning routine maintenance for $75. They do a check on the system. My air conditioning is original with the house and the house is 33 years old, so I figured it might be time. It took a while to get it scheduled because there were certain criteria that they needed, such as the temperature had to be over 70 degrees outside. We had a delay there, but I’m not holding them accountable for that. They could have come out, do a quick check, and say they were done. But they were conscious enough to say that it wouldn't be accurate unless it was at least 70 degrees outside. Hats off to them.
The tech came out and gave my air conditioning a clean bill of health and told me to change the filters. I was very happy with it. Even with the coronavirus running around, the guy came very prepared. When he came into the house, he had a mask on. He was very cordial and professional. I also used AHS in the past last year when my washer went out. It was an older washer and the issue was the transmission. I thought that they were gonna scrap it, but they wound up fixing it. It was 100 bucks to me, but they took care of it. And my washer has been running fine.

They were awesome and I would use them again. I would recommend them. I am much happier with AHS now than I was the last time we spoke to them but I’m not happy about their Facebook webpage. It prevents people from being informed consumers because if they wanna find out about a company, they don’t wanna sit there and find out the rates nor look at advertisements. They wanna look at people’s comments. All the comments whether negative or positive are embedded in advertisements and if you look at their Facebook page, there’s a bunch of people who say that nobody is responding to them. And if you send them a message, it’s the same thing. You get an automated message but nobody contacts you.

When I had just bought my house, everyone had told me getting a home warranty was a good idea. However, being with AHS has been an up and down situation. When there was a plumbing issue with the water pressure in the garbage disposal, submitting my claim was a headache because of the whole COVID thing. I was on the phone for the first time for an hour and 30 minutes. The lady put me on hold and then I was disconnected. When I called back, I couldn’t even reach a person. I submitted the claim automated, then I had to call back for the add-on. The wait times were kinda ridiculous. But it’s usually not this much of a headache to file a claim.
I filed the claim on Friday and I was told that someone was gonna call me. The contractor called me on Sunday and they were out by Monday, which was fast. He changed the garbage disposal because it was cracked on the side and broken. He also added something because the pressure was too high, which was why it was making so much noise.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

American Home Shield responded promptly and they got it taken care of in times like this when there's lots of corona business. The only thing that we had a problem with was the heat pump outside. When the guy came, he spotted one thing and then he missed another thing. He spotted the compressor needed to be replaced. So the next guy came out to replace the compressor, and then that guy also realized that the fan wasn't turning on. So then they got a guy out to replace the fan, and then the guy came out there with the wrong motor so he had to go back again.
The first guy that American Home Shield sends out needs to be somebody who can diagnose and who knows how to capture everything. But it didn't bother me because everything still got done quickly, but the contractors could be more cost-effective and to make sure they send a senior guy out there to diagnose. It could have saved two or three different trips for the guys to come out for the air conditioning system if they just sent one guy out to say that they needed to replace the compressor and the motor. He could also have indicate that it's a Trane motor and point out the bolt pattern on the top. But overall, American Home Shield saves you money and they send out a guy pretty quickly.

The guy who came and put the plumbing in did a great job. I did have a water leak after but he supposedly fixed it. It was a tube that he needed to put from the toilet where it wouldn’t leak. Then we had to get another contractor out here but Home Shield’s job with that is done. I’m very satisfied with my plumbing claim but with the stove, I’m very dissatisfied.
My complaint is this. Home Shield would tell me to call Sears and I called Sears but they didn’t come for two appointments that they gave me. American Home Shield had gotten one date and then they pacified me. On the first time, they said they would give me the second appointment and they gave me that. Then for the third, I talked to Sears and they gave me the appointment. It was a mess.
I called Sears and the people at American Home Shield to try to get things going with that but they couldn’t. In fact, they sent some parts here and they said that’s norma but hell, they didn’t even tell me they were sending parts to the house. I thought all the parts had come but then they said the parts hadn’t come. I guess Sears was saying they had ordered them but they didn’t tell American Home Shield that either. There is a big communication breakdown.
When I called American Home Shield, they couldn’t even escalate the call. At that time, I had been waiting for Sears and they were supposed to come between 8:00 and noon but in the system where American Home Shield was looking, it said 1:00 to 5:00. Then Sears didn’t even come at all and they didn’t call me. American Home Shield didn’t call me either. It was past frustrating because I was sitting here and I had other things to do and yet nobody called me. I told the lady that I make $59.13 an hour. Who’s gonna pay me that for two days? No one is.
I haven’t been able to cook since my first call but they got my $75 on both things real fast. I just wanted Sears to come and turn the stove off – and I told them that – because that’s the only thing I had in the house with gas. Sears told me to call the gas people but the gas people didn’t do it when they came here. A man was here today to fix some of the things. But no one had called me except for the call I got last night from Sears. It was a recording saying someone would be out here between 8:00 and noon. That was the only way I knew because I answered my home phone. Had I not answered my home phone, I probably wouldn’t have gotten the recording saying that I was scheduled for the fix.
The stove is 32 years old. American Home Shield is trying to fix the stove that they knew they didn’t have the parts for and Sears knew that too. The parts were ordered from somewhere else. The man put on the parts they sent to my house and he could’ve been gone in 15 minutes but he had to go get another part and they didn’t sync. That’s the one that’s leaking the gas.
I asked what I was supposed to do for cooking and he said he didn’t know. But he had scheduled me for the 17th because they were gonna look for the parts. That kind of stuff is crazy especially when you’ve already paid them on time every month and you haven’t used them. So I bought myself two or three different appliances with the money I paid them. I’ve been with Home Shield for about 14 years and I’m about ready to put a mile between them and me. But I am looking for some type of restitution from them. They need to send that $75 back.
I had talked to three different ladies at American Home Shield and the last one I talked to promised to call me back because she was trying to escalate it. But she couldn’t give me an escalation number. I also told her I already got the place. I looked it up myself. When people are asking you questions like that and you can’t give them out, that’s really crazy. I wanted to send a letter to the CEO and see if he’s gonna refund me for my two days off.

The main reason we kept Home Shield is that we have an older AC but I don't think they were going to continue servicing the older units so we canceled. We had to pay $100 per pound of Freon every year in order to get it up to speed and we were continually paying for several pounds every year because there was a leak or the system wasn't working. They weren't really taking care of the core problem. But for the most part, all the contractors they worked with were fantastic. There was only one company that I had concerns with. That was a hard situation to deal with, but the rest of the AC companies were fantastic. Those guys really knew their stuff and were very nice. I trusted them coming in and out of the house. But I didn't have enough service calls other than the AC in order to constitute keeping their warranty.

We have been with American Home Shield since the year 2000 but there may have been a year or so we were not with them. When I can get someone on the phone, submitting a claim seems like it goes quicker. AHS helps offset some things and that is helpful but then, with other things, it’s disappointing. When we had air conditioning and hot water heater issues, they did those well but sometimes, they were not so great. I had a refrigerator in the house about two years ago and it took about five months to get the refrigerator fixed. So, that wasn’t good. Then finally, we said that we would get someone to fix it if they would just reimburse it because it took so long. That was a hard time.
We just moved into a house and the day after we moved in, we started having massive plumbing issues but American Home Shield has not covered any of that, so that has been disappointing and very frustrating. They sent someone quickly though, which was good. But it was about $2,500 worth of repairs and they haven't helped with that. A few years ago, we had an air conditioning problem and AHS covered most of that. Then, in the early 2000s, we had a hot water heater problem which happened on Thanksgiving morning and it took about two weeks to get it fixed, but they covered it all. So, there are pros and cons.

In the four or five years we've had AHS, I've liked how they come out and get the job done. However, their contractors have been 50-50. For some, if they feel the job is too complicated, they rather write it off as unfixable or say it's my fault so they won't have to worry about it and they wanna just leave and go onto the next job. With others, they knew what they're doing and they don't complain. They just come in and do the best they can. Still, their contractors can improve the quality of their workmanship. I've had to call for the same job again that I called for less than 30 days ago. For three of my four items, I had to call back to get things re-fixed. I want things done correctly the first time.

We submitted a claim to AHS because there was 12-feet of solid sludge all the way to the street. The contractors that AHS sent got their stuff hung up, so we had to hire a private contractor and it cost me about $3,000. With that little incident, it left a bad taste. There were some loopholes there about coverage that we weren’t aware of that came about. But when we went back to the book and read it, what it was saying as leak, the wording, is misleading. So, it contradicts itself in one section to the other.
Out of everybody we’ve researched so far, AHS offers a little bit more than what the other ones do. The other ones offer but when we call them, they talk the talk but they don’t walk the walk. But AHS really needs to talk to their customers and say, “What is it that you’re really looking for from a warranty? What can we do to better the company?” We’re paying a pretty good chunk of change to have the warranty.
Thanks for your feedback!! We look forward to resolving some issues for you. Take Care.

I did not have an account set up, so it was after I spoke to the gentleman and did the claims over the phone that I was able to log in and track where the process is on the claim. It was super awesome. So, you can see the repair technicians that have been assigned to you, what days they were coming, and if they already came. It is like a step-by-step in the online thing. They have a fast service -- I did not think it was going to be as quick. I also thought that it would take a couple of weeks for somebody could come out, but it took literally days before somebody did and the whole issue was fixed in like two weeks. It was fabulous.

The refrigerator did not cool at all and so I called in a claim to American Home Shield. I went through automated prompts and they said that Gulfstar Services would get back to within the next 24 hours. The services of the contractor was good, fast, and reliable. They replaced the motherboard on the refrigerator, and the unit has been performing perfectly since then. I'm very satisfied. People have told me that they don't want the other companies -- they had such a bad experience with them. I'm a realtor and I have always recommended AHS. Overall, I'm been with them for 12 years.

The young guy who came for my door was very nice and professional. He knew what he was doing and didn’t have to call anyone for help. He was pretty efficient as far as what he had to do. The issue was the rollers on our door and the chain system that pulls the door up. He had to replace the two garage doors springs. All in all, he took about an hour and a half to fix the problem, which was very good for what he had to do. You can lose a finger real quickly when working with the garage door springs. There was a lot of tension on them. My wife and I love AHS. We’ve used the service a couple of times and haven’t had any unsatisfied situations where they came in and did something that didn’t turn out. They do a very good job and we’re happy with them.

When I first bought this house, my heat and air unit had leaked and Mr. Coleman was the first person AHS sent out here. Not only did he tell me what was wrong with it, but he also fixed it. He did it in more than a timely manner. He came out after he had finished all the other jobs just because he knew I was having a house-warming party. When he called to schedule it up, I told him I couldn’t do it at the time they wanted because of the house-warming. Mr. Coleman, the owner, himself came that night and fixed my AC. He rigged it to get us through until we could afford to put a new one in. Not only did it hold for the entire summer, but it also held up for almost the entire winter.
When it started not being able to heat, I called AHS and they sent somebody else out, which was fine. The contractor told me that my unit was low in Freon and that it was gonna take about 15 pounds. I was told that AHS would not authorize using the mixed gas. All we were allowed to use was the R22, which was $200 a pound. And AHS would only pay around $20 out of the whole thing.
I’m not a heat and air guy, but my neighbor has been doing it for 25 years. I called her and she said to tell the people to just leave the house. I did exactly what she told me. Then I called Mr. Coleman who told me the same thing and that he would come to check my unit for me. I said that I'd have to call AHS back. He said that he has dealt with me before and that he'd look at my unit without any charge because he knew I was an honorable man.
AHS called me back and told me that they could send somebody else out because I wasn’t happy. When they called me back, my neighbor was talking to me and she ended up talking to them. AHS replaced my unit and sent Mr. Coleman out to replace it. My neighbor said to be prepared that the repair was gonna take about six hours. Mr. Coleman showed up and disconnected the unit. He had his guys show up about 30 minutes later and they disconnected my unit, pulled it out, put the new one in, and had it running in less than two and a half hours.
When I switched over from my heat to the air, it continued to blow hot air. My neighbor said it sounded like the transfer valve or switch valve was not switching over. When I talked to Mr. Coleman's secretary, I told her what my neighbor told me. She told Mr. Coleman and he sent one of his technicians out here. They called me to ask me if I could do it in a couple of days because they were swamped up. They then called me right back and said asked if they could come the next day. One of the guys said he’d come by on his way home from the job. He came here, put the thermostat on, and bam, my heat and air unit came right back on.
I would recommend Mr. Coleman and his crew to anybody. He and his crew are the only people that I want to come to my house. We’ll even unlock my door for him or his team even if we're not here. They are above and beyond reproach. They treat people with dignity and respect. They know how to deal with you and do whatever they can to help you. They are an outstanding company.
My wife and I are both are disabled veterans. AHS and Mr. Coleman really look out for us. I volunteered with a company and help veterans get their disability. Mr. Coleman told me that with or without insurance, to give him a call if I have a veteran who is having problems with their heat or air. He will work with the veteran, even if he had to replace the entire unit.
I’m glad we got AHS. I’m going to trust them. They will do what they say. Some things, I don’t agree with, but for what I get, I’m okay with it. And I have been really impressed with them so far, however, they keep taking money out of my account. I have been on it for two years and I’m going to renew next year. And I'm going to pay in advance as long as they continue to give me the discount. It's $1,400 a year as long as I keep it up instead of $2,600.

I had the contractor come out twice to fix my refrigerator and it’s still doing the same thing. The water was dripping down from somewhere when it comes in from the outlet and it turns to ice after a while. They came out and put a new piece onto something. That lasted two weeks and the water doesn't come out again. If it can’t be repaired, they need to say that and I wouldn’t have to keep paying for them to come out to do it. To have them do the same thing and it's not fixed, then I just wasted money. I have to pay $100 every time they come out, so I can buy another refrigerator after a few of those.
I had another company and they came out and did the same thing. The other one was a little worse than this one. At least, they took everything apart and thought they fixed what was wrong, which didn’t happen. Still, I had another problem with my dishwasher, and that’s fixed. I recommended American Home Shield to somebody else and they got it as well.

And then, one of the locks wasn’t working right. The call went well. The guy from Pop-A-Lock came out and he fixed whatever he had to fix. He was a nice young fellow, and he reset the locks that he could -- there was one he could not do anything with. He would have to replace the whole lock, but I don’t use that door much, so I told him to forget it. But, everything else was fine.
I moved out here in ’98 and I bought American Home Shield shortly after that. And then, I had them at my condo when I sold the house. I have them now that I have the manufactured home. I had a really good plumber recently. But it hasn’t been clear in the contract what they’ll cover or what they won’t so I would like a little more clarity because the system uses the old Freon, and I’m wondering if they are they going to cover to keep it going. I’ve been paying this whole time for the service with the idea that some of the warranty would cover the replacement cost. I looked at the contract recently and it seems a little subjective as to what they would cover.

I had to get a new heating system put in and had to get a loan for it because AHS didn't pay the amount of money to fix the part that was broken. They don't pay for the Freon, so it is gonna be a big out-of-pocket expense. The warranty was paid for in full for a home for a year and we also have one on my husband. I know how much it costs every month and it's ridiculous that AHS is not paying as much as the consumer. They should be paying out more money.
I've got a Realtor who said that they work with AHS all the time. They said that it's absolutely easier to get more out of AHS. You just have to be more difficult with them, which is not very fair because the average person doesn't know that. I realize Freon is expensive, but there's no reason why that all shouldn't be covered under the warranty. And if that wasn't the kind of warranty that I bought, they should've told me that so that I could have paid for the one that I wanted.
We do appreciate the feedback and apologize for any inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your experience. We will take this into consideration. Do not hesitate to contact us with any contractual or service issues. Thank You.

So far, I’ve only used AHS once and I had a very good experience with my refrigerator. They handled it excellently. The contractors came sooner than I expected. I called them on a Thursday and my refrigerator was making a loud rattling or vibrating noise, and I was afraid it was gonna stop working. And then they called and said someone just cancelled and they could come tomorrow morning. I said that’s great ‘cause I’m worried. That’s my only source of fresh food and I’m 74 years old, so I try not to go out any more than I have to.
The contractor came. He had to pull the refrigerator out from the wall but he found it was some kind of a stand on the bottom that he said, “It’s hitting up against the housing. All I need to do is pull it back and adjust it.” And while he was back there, he said he noticed my water line going up to the ice maker is slightly leaking. But that’s not covered under the refrigerator maintenance. It has to be actually part of the refrigerator, which to me, is part of it, otherwise, your ice maker doesn’t work if there’s no water to it.
He said no. I have to call a plumber for that, a different call. So, I was a little disappointed in that. But I asked him if he just shut it off then because I don’t really need the ice, and he did do that for me. He traced the line and found the shut-off valve out. Other than that, it was a very good experience. The contractor did it very quickly, kept his distance and wore gloves. He was out of here in 20 minutes. I was happy to pay the service fee and at least get the refrigerator working.
I just moved in here in January and when they did the home inspection, they weren’t able to test the air conditioner because they said they can’t turn it on because it can damage the system. So, when it gets warmer, I’m just hoping that it’s gonna work okay because it wasn’t able to be tested. But, it’s covered. At least I know I’ve got that comfort. But the heat has been fine, so hopefully, the air conditioner will do the same. So far, I’m very happy with AHS. It’s a good warranty.

Original Review: March 21, 2020
We've been with Home Shield since we've owned this house. We got here in 2015. And then when we owned a house in Tennessee, we had Home Shield there the whole time too. That was another five years so, 10 years total. American Home Shield did their job. They all sent somebody out here, but it was just the people that were sent out. We called to try to get it figured out while the guy was still here, and he was being told from whoever it was from American Home Shield that that wasn't their problem.
The problem was Amin Maintenance kept having to fix the same thing. The guy that came out the last time fixed it and said, “Well, if this doesn’t work, it's because your vent is clogged up.” I was like, “Okay. What do we do?” There was little guidance given on it. And then it broke again, and he came out and checked it and it was the same thing - it was the vent. And then, he pretty much just said, “Well, y’all gotta have this vent cleaned up.” We had no clue how to do any of that so we ended up buying a couple of different things. We spent money on it to try to get it fixed it and finally we found the right one. I'm disabled. I had to climb on top of the house and run it down to clear the vent out, and it seems to be working now. I just don’t understand why that wasn't the first thing that was done. The guy kept saying it wasn’t his job to clean it out, and I understand that, but he just kept letting it break and letting us having to call.
If someone comes out and it's broken, he should check all areas and say, "Just let me know." That way, we know there could be something else. Because when somebody comes out and they say they're gonna fix something, I have no choice but to trust that they're doing the right thing. If I knew how to fix it, I would have just did it myself. The last guy seemed like he knew what was going on, but he wasn’t willing to tell anybody what was going on. He didn’t tell us about the vent until the third time he came out and fixed it that that was the problem.
The guy who came out before him was more knowledgeable about what was going on. What happened with that was the belt came off of them once. There was another guy that came out and fixed it one time, but then it broke again, but there was a tension pulley that was messed up that he missed. But he was open and explained everything to us that he was having some issues with his wife who was getting sick, so I requested to have somebody else come out because he said that he wasn’t gonna have that much time to do anything. When the new guy came out, he seemed like he was a nice guy, but he didn’t explain anything. Or maybe he didn’t know. It was more likely he just didn’t know, so he waited until the third time to tell me, “Hey, someone has to clean this vent out and there's nothing we can do about it.”

There was a time when my garbage disposal would just hum. It wouldn't work. I submitted a claim online to AHS and shortly after, their contractor, Leak Seekers came to handle my issue. The tech was very thorough. I told him that I had put an Allen wrench up under the garbage disposal to see if the flywheel was stuck and found that it spun freely. I hit the reset button and it still just hummed. He told me that he tried the same thing. He said the motor of the machine is gone and that it needed to be replaced. He replaced it that same day and now things are working great. Sometimes AHS is good and other times they're not. There are times when I call them and they say they don't cover my issue. I had a water heater done one time and I had to pay 500 'cause the tech said he had to bring my unit up to code. I was miffed about that. Still, having their warranty is convenient.

I file my claims online and it is very easy to do. It's pretty self-explanatory. I've had them for about three years and the only gripe I have is that when the contractors come out, they always come out to kinda see what’s going on, and then they reschedule to come out and fix or do service. So I have to take off of work twice to get the repairs done. If they're gonna come out Monday to see what’s going on, and then they have to order the part, and that could take a week or more. Then they come back and I would take off work again. Also, the availability is always at weird times and they never have weekends. But in the long run, having this service definitely saves you high expenses in the end. So it's a pretty good service.
Dorothy,
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. When our contractors reach out to schedule an appointment, they will schedule it during normal business hours of Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm, and some Saturdays at the technician's discretion. We hope you continue to reach out to us for you home warranty needs. Take Care.

The contractor who came was a good guy. He was in here for about half an hour, which I was totally satisfied with. He checked the AC outside first, and then he came in and checked it inside. Then he ran it through a couple of cycles to see how it would run. He said that whatever he had replaced had been the problem. A transistor had burnt out in it. We’ve also had times when people have had to come out and look at the air. One time, two guys came and replaced the whole drive motor inside. They had to literally take the AC apart to fix that. Then one other time, we had this one guy come out and he just recharged the AC. I like that AHS does what they said they’re gonna do.
They have proven to us at least four times that if we have a problem, they would send someone and that our major appliances are indeed covered. They don't necessarily get somebody out instantly, but they get contractors out within a day or two. They’ve sent out somebody for the stove twice and they’ve worked on the refrigerator and I've had some kind of a deal with the oven. The repairs get done and they last.

I’m in insurance, so I have to do a lot of research on who I pick. It took me months to research American Home Shield and I went with them because of the Better Business ratings. It was 50/50. I went with the most popular one that has been established as long, and they've been here the longest. I was also recommended by somebody who had been with them for over 20-something years and that contributed to my choice too. I like them. I used it twice and they came through for me. I like the fact that they gave me choices and they did not pick for me. I also liked the contractor I had for the first issue and I used the same one for my second claim. They were part of the choices.

We had AHS ages ago when we lived in Northern Virginia, but the premiums were just ridiculous for a small townhouse and we let it go because there wasn’t anything we couldn’t handle that broke in there. My neighbors in Northern Virginia also had AHS and were absolutely in love with the fact that when something broke, it was covered, especially with both of them on disability. When we bought our new home, which is huge, down here in Southwestern Virginia, we signed up with them specifically because we have two water heaters, two HVAC systems, two refrigerators, and two freezers. It’s a 4000 square-foot house for two units. It has six bedrooms, 4 baths. We needed to have that coverage if something happened. Getting AHS is a great financial decision, especially in today’s economy. It takes the worry out of making sure your things are repaired.
When I filed a claim for a gas furnace, the gentleman who did the work was wonderful. However, they had to order a part, which took a bit to get in. But it would have taken a bit to get the part in no matter what because it was something unusual. That was in the middle of one of our coldest times and it was snowing. We got no space heaters from them. I scrounged from my parents and my family just to have heaters to heat the house so that it was livable. My parents don't have AHS and when their furnace was out, the company that did the furnace brought in space heaters that were safe to keep the house warm. When I called AHS, they said that they were getting it as fast as they could. They also said that they changed to gas because cause I put it in as a heating claim. It cost me 125, which was wonderful because the part was outrageous.

The guy who came out for the sink was very knowledgeable on what he was telling me and what was going on. He fixed the stuff that he could fix and he gave me recommendations on what I needed. So everything went fine. Within the same hour, he was able to really figure out everything and what was going on. I was very satisfied with that timeframe. But when I had a furnace problem, AHS sent somebody out and they didn’t wanna fix it. They just wanted to try to sell me something. AHS needs to be more astute on who they hire the contract work out to. Other than that, it’s been great.

American Home Shield has done everything well except with the problem on my sink. The serviceman has been out twice, and he has to come back a third time because the part he ordered didn’t work. He had to go back and order the actual sink part that was leaking. But he had to take pictures and all of that before he could send it back to American Home Shield. Their contractors are good but with their procedure, it seems like a waste of money to pay a plumber to come out that many times when one trip can solve it all. It would have been simple if instead of wasting money on a part, they'd just replace it. I did get a call from American Home Shield once. They told me to take a picture and send it to them so they could look at it. But they didn’t ask me to do it this time. Other than that, their service is absolutely fine.

I have been a customer for almost 4 years. I have used American Home Shield several times in the past with no major issues. Today I called to report my air conditioning was not working. They gave me the name of a company that cannot make it to my home until sometime Tuesday. That is about 5 days without air conditioning in Florida. I called to request another company that is in their network which has been sent to my home before by AHS. They told me they could not change companies.
I called back and asked to speak with a supervisor because they have changed companies in the past for me. I was put on hold for 50 minutes before a supervisor came to assist. He still would not change companies and put me on hold for another 25 minutes and that supervisor would still not assist me. I work in customer service and would never put someone on hold for 50 minutes or more. The company I am requesting is an American Home Shield company. Very poor customer service for a loyal paying customer.

Wrong. Got the same guy. In short they hung up on me twice, and now a week and a half later it still hasn’t been repaired! I still have to pay 880.00 to get it replaced because they just pay for the water heater and not installation????

I had an electric issue and AHS sent out #1 Garage Door to complete my order. I was very pleased with them. They were very professional and there was no attempt at trying to upsell for things that I did not need. They also addressed the problem honestly. The tech fixed the problem right away, which was what the very first person that came out should have done. That other company straight up lied when they came out. Their tech would not even look at the garage door opener when he came in. He immediately tried to act like I needed $450 worth of work on my door. He told me that within five minutes and when I told him that hadn't even looked at the opener, he said that he didn't need to look at it. He said that he saw all the issues with the door. So, I told him he could leave.
AHS then sent me a new company out for a second opinion. Unfortunately, I told their tech what the other company did. So, he followed suit. He said it was my door and he also did some adjustments on my opener. But he went the same route trying to upcharge me things with my door. But my opener was purchased in 2004, so it was definitely an opener issue. It was shorting and the motor was wearing out because it was old. So, I had to pay out of my own pocket to have an independent company here locally that I trusted come and check my door. And they said that my door was fine and there was nothing wrong with the box of my door. They said that it was my opener that was failing because the motor was failing.
After that, I called American Home Shield to cancel my policy and a kind lady by the name of Valerie in retention begged me to let them send a third company out to try and make it right. She was phenomenal and it was very nice dealing with her. But I was hesitant because I was really aggravated. This has taken a lot of my time off work meeting these people and it took a lot of phone calls with AHS. It was a lot of stress all the way around but I agreed to let somebody come out.
And when the tech from #1 Garage Door came, he said that my garage door opener needed to be repaired or replaced, and American Home Shield would cover that. Then he replaced it that night. But the next day, I got a text from him saying that American Home Shield was denying the claim because it had already been denied twice and nobody should have come out for a third time. So, there were some wires crossed between retention setting that third appointment up and their approval department. And even though my garage door was fixed, it added an additional couple of stress for me between the company telling me that they weren't getting paid by American Home Shield and me trying to reach somebody in American Home Shield, until I finally got ahold of Valerie in retention again who had set everything up. She worked behind the scenes to ensure that it was covered.
At this point, the only person and the only department that I was really pleased with, as far as the way that my claim was handled is concerned, was Valerie in retention. Based on my experience, the customer service from all the other numbers of AHS leaves a lot to be desired. This is true from all the phone calls I had to make, the people in approvals, my experience in trying to find the right department, and the lack of English-speaking, understanding or even desire to bring my problems further up of their reps. AHS also needs to stop contracting with the two other companies that they sent out for my last claim.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

I’m divorced and it’s just me and I’m not as handy around the house. When I got talking to my aunt, she recommended that I should try Home Shield and I did. It’s so easy to do my claims online. You don’t have to sit there and wait on hold forever to put in a claim. Once you submit it online, somebody calls you back. I’m really pleased with the turnaround time when somebody gets back to me. Since I have called a few times, I’ve been dealing with the same workers, which is kinda nice. So they’re familiar too.
In the beginning, it’s almost one of those too-good-to-be-true kind of thing. The first time they came out was in regards to my dishwasher. I’ve been having a ton of issues and I thought they’d give me the runaround, but there wasn’t. The tech came out, looked at it and he said it would be replaced. I was floored. He didn’t give me the runaround. He didn’t try to prolong it or drag it out. It was great. I was iffy at first because of the whole process, but since then, I’ve never had any worries.

However, I’ve been having issues with my air conditioner and what they said was they were supposed to replace it, and the people that came give me quotes for new systems. I don’t understand that. But other than that, the guy from All American Plumbing and Rooter was really good. He was the only one that came and told me exactly what was wrong with my drain because I’ve had several people come in and the only thing that they did was plunge it. On the other hand, that guy showed me that there was a buildup of soap and he went in and started chiselling it out. Also, he did what he was supposed to do. He did a great job.

I've had Home Shield for five to six years. I have four accounts, not just one. We called Home Shield because the dryer wasn’t drying and then when the contractor left, not only did it not dry, there was a noise like something was loose in it. It started doing that. The contractor was good that first time. When I submitted the claim on the phone the second time, I told Home Shield I didn’t want the contractor to come back, but Home Shield said they needed to come back because they would have to charge me another $100 if the same person didn’t. For my personal home was the one I said not to come back. I told them, “I’m not paying a $100. Send them back.”
And then when he came back, he was really rude. They do regular maintenance, but they don't do things that require regular maintenance. We would have to call his company directly for regular maintenance. But it wasn’t the maintenance. It was that he came to fix one thing, then what he fixed didn’t work, and then he broke something. I called in for another repair but I told Home Shield I didn’t want to use them for another house, then somebody else came. I kept renewing for the service. But the problem is, for two places, I always got Foster’s because of the location. The last time they came to my other home, it was the same thing - they had to come back. It was the same guy. So, he had to come back twice.

Our fridge went out. We called right away when it went down that first time, and Noble Appliance Repair came out right away too. They evaluated the problem, ordered the part, and came back with it shortly thereafter. They then put the part in. It was running fine for a few days, and then it quit again. I called to have him return, but he was out of town. American Home Shield could not find anybody to come and help us too. They asked me to see if I could find somebody on my own. I would have to pay the contractor and the home warranty company would reimburse me. However, I could not find anybody that would want to work with AHS. It was too much hassle. So, I ended up having to wait for Noble to come back. We were out another whole week before the tech could come. It was very inconvenient, and we had to put our stuff in coolers.
The contractor then went back there, evaluated it all and got it fixed again. The unit has been working fine since he was here. So, I was very pleased with the work of the guy from Noble. As far as AHS is concerned, on the other hand, I’m very disappointed in having to pay a deductible of $100, and then having to try to find my own repairman and being compensated not at all for that. American Home Shield’s inability to find somebody for me to repair that in a timely manner when it went out the second time was very discouraging. I asked them for a partial refund, even on my deposit, which I thought was only fair since I was doing their job for them, but they ignored me on that subject. The two people I talked to did not reply. I worked at a call center for 15 years and that was incredibly unprofessional to leave me in blank space for several minutes without saying a word.

Even though we've not used Home Shield a lot, it’s a really wonderful service to have. We have the warranty on all of our homes and we've recommended them to at least another five people who have joined since we’ve done it. We send claims in online and when the toilet was leaking, Northwest Sundance Services came out. The technician was terrific. He was on time, clean and friendly. He took care of the issue and we've had no leaks since.
But we had another plumbing issue that we would have liked to have had been resolved while he was there. However, because of the way American Home Shield is set up, he could not do it. We have a kitchen faucet that we’re not sure if it needs replacing. It hasn’t failed yet so it doesn’t qualify under the service. But it’s gonna fail so we had already bought a replacement faucet waiting. Still, he couldn’t install it because of the rules.
We're not saying that they give it to us for free either. We just wish American Home Shield could even allow the guy, on the same call, to give a reasonable bid as opposed to starting from scratch and having to rebook it completely, providing he would have had the time to make the change, which he did because the toilet repair was such a quick repair. It seems like it would help save time for technicians as well. In fact, he would’ve been happy to do it and we had this faucet right there. It probably wouldn’t have taken him any time at all.
Even previous to the toilet claim, we had Three Sons come out and work on the disposal and the faucet. But the technician said he couldn’t do the faucet. We had it sitting there and when asked if we could pay him to do it, he said we wouldn't wanna pay him to do it. He pulled up in his book and it was gonna be like $600. That’s what they wanted to be paid. It would be nice if there was little more flexibility in the process. The contractor had allotted the time because they were gonna come fix two things and they couldn't do one. Plus we already paid the $100 for the service call through American Home Shield but for whatever reason, the contractors said they couldn’t change the faucet out. Now, we gotta go find a plumber to go through with it.

Just recently, our freezer was freezing over. It would sweat, and then, everything in there would freeze up and then it quit working. It took a few days before the techs came out and they weren’t able to give me an upgrade. But other than that, the whole experience was really pretty good. AHS reps were super-nice. The tech seemed very knowledgeable and s super-cool to deal with.

I’ve been with them four years. I’m a Real Estate agent and I use them all the time. They send out contractors quickly and usually, they're very efficient.

We had just bought a new home and we got the warranty for the security of knowing that if something happens, we would know who to call. The service has been going on for two years and the reps are very nice when I call American Home Shield. For our heating issue, it was Titan that came out and the unit works fine now. When the technician first came out, he had to order the parts for it so he called us back to schedule a date that was convenient for us for him to come back. He was very professional and a very nice guy. He cleaned up his mess when he left as well. Everything was good.

I called in for a service order and American Home Shield had to move it from one person to another. The guy ended up contacting me the same day, which was fast and he came the next day. He was very professional. I thought the issue was the thermostat and it wasn’t. He said that some item in the furnace needed declogging. He was here five minutes and cleaned something on the furnace.
