The contractor that was sent for the plumbing claim was great. They took care of it right away. Now I have an open claim for a dryer. The tech that came out said that the board in the dryer needed to be replaced. However, they don't make that part anymore. But Sears had been searching for it in the last six weeks. American Home Shield is really good for sorts of service calls like plumbers and electricians. But for something like an appliance replacement, I am really pretty disappointed.

I've liked American Home Shield's service so far. I'm happy with them and plan to continue with them. Recently, I put in two claims at the same time and it was a good experience. One claim was for electric and the other one was for the dishwasher. For the electric issue, we have two outlets in one of the rooms then all of a sudden, none of them was working and the light fixture wasn't working either. But apparently it was due to loose wiring. It was a holiday weekend and the tech came pretty quickly. The time that it took for the repair was not that long either. He was also thorough, nice and friendly, too. Everything's been fine since the repair, but my other claim for the dishwasher wasn't completed. They needed to order a part because the door latch was broken. So I'm still waiting for them to call me back with that.

It's easy submitting the claims online and the repair people were on time and very polite. We had two problems, which were a garbage disposal and a faucet issue. They didn't have a faucet with them when they came and did the garbage disposal, so they came back a second time. Everything has been great since.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

Drew's Pump and Plumbing was dispatched for the water heater that was leaking. When I called, it was a Sunday morning. The guy called me by that evening and he was there by 11 o'clock the next morning. He did a good job. He called me before I even expected him to. Thanks to him, it wasn't even a full 24 hours that I was without service. I would recommend AHS and I think my neighbor is gonna call them.

When I get problems, I call AHS and they respond pretty well. With my most recent claim experience with AHS, everything came out good. American Home Shield notified the company as soon as I called them. Then, Agape came and they analyzed the problem. Then, they had to come back to do to repair. The times that he said that he was going to come, the first time and the second time, all was according to what he said. He got the job done and everything's working fine now.

AHS has competitive coverage but it's difficult to speak to a representative. The hold times are terrible. Recently, we had a call in but we decided to cancel it and fix it ourselves. It was about 35 minutes on hold. That's happened multiple times to me whenever I've had to call in and talk to somebody. But the website is very easy to use. I did a claim for the garbage disposal that was leaking at the bottom and I got the auto email saying that it's been allocated and I could contact them to set up an appointment or they'd contact me when I hadn't proactively called them once I got the notification with who it was assigned to. This time, the service was very prompt. They got out there much quicker than I expected. We've had them out a few times for different things over the last couple years and they remembered coming out here before. They got everything done. Unfortunately, they didn't test out the water and there was hardly any water pressure at all. I ended up having to take apart a faucet and get it to flow again.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

I was happy you do get a text and get it right away, and the name of the contractor. It's just that I had one claim last year with my toilet, and that had to be fixed. Some of the stuff in the toilet were not working properly, and it was running. I turned the water off. American Home Shield is great. They respond right away. But the contractors don't always respond right away. It has been at least two days. And the other contractors that came, it was three days.
The other claim was two pipes in my bathroom. It was the shower in the bathroom, and the bathtub in the family bathroom in the hallway. The garbage disposal was also a problem. The tech came out here. He told me because the leak had occurred over a period of time, that it was nothing that American Home Shield could cover. I read through the contract, so I saw that. And I also knew the insurance company would not cover it because of the period of time that it was occurring. I got to take care of myself. I understood. The guy that was here was good. He walked through stuff, explained things to me, and why it works, showed it to me, took the pictures that he needed to take.
I will recommend the young man to a friend. He was great on explanation, especially when you have to turn down a customer, which he did professionally. He just didn’t turn down the coverage that was not there for me. He also explained the reason why, and he went through that. He explained it well, and he explained why it happened the way that it did with the period of time, and what happens when it's continuous. You're not able to get to it or you don't see it, and what happened in my case.
The only thing I did not understand was getting an invoice at zero but getting charged on my card. I just happened to be balancing my checkbook, and I looked, and there the charge was. I had no idea what it was about. I went back to the email that he sent me because I read the email right after he left, so he sent it right away. And then it has zeros on it. But I go to balance the checkbook a day later, and there the charge is with no explanation. I still haven't got anything with that. The $100, I know that gets charged right away so that you can assign a contractor. That I understand, I just didn't understand getting charged the $54.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

It was a garbage disposal that the tech recently fixed. Apparently, the garbage disposal was old. It was leaking from the bottom. They couldn't repair it. The guy replaced it. It was quick. He was very professional, on time and was in and out. We had another claim right after that for a dryer issue. We called on American Home Shield. We thought we were having a problem with the dryer, but apparently, it was not the dryer. It was the hose that goes from the dryer through the walls out of the house. The contractor explained to us that he couldn't fix it. He gave us other solutions on how to solve the problem and fix it. I like the peace of mind that the insurance gives. If there is a problem, American Home Shield is supposed to help you out. That was what really drew me to it.

One of the heaters wasn't working. The experience submitting the claim was fine. The first time the contractor came, they fixed it. It was working. And then, I had to call them back and they had to send another technician out the next day. Because they fixed it around 2:00, and then at 5 o'clock in the morning, when I woke up, the heater stopped working again. I called them and I told them that it stopped working again. They put me on the schedule and then, they came back. A different technician came and fixed it. They came back and made it right. They didn't make me wait and say, “Well, we have to put you on another day.” They came back the same day I called them and said, “Yeah, you fixed it. But it stopped working.” That was good.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that is knowledgeable and able to explain what is going on. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

I tell people I got American Home Shield now and that they do a pretty good job. However, it took a little while to fix the troubles I had with my dryer. They had to order a part. Right now, I'm dealing with them for my heating system. They called me up a day or two ago and said that the part was shipped in but it was damaged when they shipped it. It's gonna take three or four more days before they can get here and get my heater going. Right now, it's cold weather here and they could have done a little something different. I'm not saying that they got to drop everybody else to look after me. But when I say I got somebody that's 107 years old in the house with me and it's wintertime, they could put me on top of their priority list. When the techs come in and do something, they gotta always order a part and it takes a couple of weeks to get the parts in. But I'm not blaming them for it 'cause they don't carry parts around in their truck. They come in and do what they have to do.

I rarely have any problems with American Home Shield. I've had them for years and they've been pretty consistent. The price has gone up a little bit over the many years I've been using them but I expect that. It's a very good bargain for what I pay because any one of those repairs would have cost me so much more. I got my entire AC unit replaced because I had them. I would never have been able to afford that if I hadn't been a member of them. They're helpful even for little-ticket items. My Christmas tree lights melted the cord that they were putting into the extension cord. The guy came out, got the piece of metal prong that was still stuck in the outlet, got it out and made sure nothing was on fire inside the walls. They saved my house. Recently, a guy came out and fixed my stove. He was in and out in 20 minutes. It was great.

American Home Shield worked through a property manager of ours. So it would be nice if they had an option to indicate if you were the occupant or if you were the owner-landlord of the property to help facilitate when things do go wrong. The contract is always confusing. The contract is in my name and I put down the property manager as the contact so they’ll contact her. But often, the communications go both ways or I don't find something out or the property manager doesn't find something out. It makes coordinating an appointment tough.
We've had a few claims over the years. We had other issues when we were out of the country for a couple of years where it didn't work so well with the communications because of that. But this recent one for one of our rental properties is probably the smoothest and best of them. The disposal was leaking and the tenant put a bucket underneath. The tenant contacted the property manager. I was also contacted that an appointment was going to be set. I forwarded that to the property manager. But then I got contacted by the Prestige and asked them to contact the property manager, which they did, and everything ended up working great.
An appointment was set and Prestige came out. I was in town and only about two miles from the property so I went and met Prestige. The plumber came in, determined the disposal needed to be replaced, contacted American Home Shield right then who agreed to replace it. So within 30 minutes of the plumber showing up, he was able to put in a new unit and was gone. So it was flawless. But that generally has not been the case.
Right before that garbage disposal claim, a refrigerator in another property went up. The tenant said they weren't going to be home so the property manager was going to be going over when they got the 30-minute alert. But the company was about four hours late to the site. So I had to be calling American Home Shield to figure out if they were coming that day and then I found out that they just left. I was in communication with the property manager who had not heard anything.
The repair person had told the tenant that it was not covered and it was about a $600 repair. The property manager told them not to fix it and that was how the case was closed. So of course, I contacted American Home Shield told them that they were supposed to repair or replace it. So they sent another technician out and ended up giving me a large credit to Home Depot to buy a new refrigerator because it couldn't be repaired. So it worked out but we had to intercede and do some work on that one. Other than that, American Home Shield has improved greatly over the few years that we've had them with this communication issue.

We have Nest smoke alarms in our basement right next to the furnace. I kept getting a buzz saying that there was carbon monoxide in the there. So, I called the fire department and they came over. We opened up all the windows. We Energies, our utility company came and they had to condemn my furnace due to the carbon monoxide leaking. We didn't have heat and it was 30-some degrees outside. The lady I worked with at American Home Shield stopped everything to make sure that he could get somebody out to get our furnace running again.
American Home Shield called Dave from DG Heating and he came to replace my furnace. Dave informed me about everything and showed me what system I was gonna put in. He got the job done in a couple of hours. He was excellent. He is coming back next week to put in a humidifier system for me that is going to get connected to the furnace. Use AHS. It would have cost me thousands of dollars out of pocket and we didn't even have to worry about it. This warranty saved us for sure.

The first visit was a nice guy. He did what he thought was right and it just didn't hold up. The second guy took it deeper and realized that this system was getting pretty old and needed to be replaced. But he fixed it and he made it go. As long as it's going, I’m happy. The biggest problem is the time it takes in a situation that may not be life threatening, but very uncomfortable. If you have an HVAC problem, you ought to get that stuff fixed within a day, 24 hours, not three days. Then you have to do it again. I was regulating the circuit breaker just to try to make things happen and it was annoying. The second guy was top shelf and I would use him to replace my unit if it got to that point. I'm satisfied overall.

Submitting claims to AHS works out fine for me. I call them on the phone and sometimes there is a lengthy wait. There was one time where the contractor never reached out to us and AHS found someone else who did call and we had the problem solved. You should probably get Home Shield. I've heard of other warranty companies like Center Point and how their coverage kind of sucks.

Champco Appliance Repair is awesome. My oven was burning things and something wasn't plugged in right. It took them less than 24 hours to call me and make the appointment, and the guy fixed it. He was there maybe 15 minutes. It was a good experience. They've been to the house before too. However, AHS doesn't always get 4-star repair people. I usually don't have a problem but they could not have 2-star appliance repairmen who on more than one of their reviews said as soon as they got paid for the job, they never saw those people again. It’s Appliance Superheroes in Clovis and they've done two jobs at my house. I couldn't get one of them shifted to Champco because they said he already put in that he had finished the service. But he didn't. He came, said, “You need a wheel and a gasket,” but never came back so I still have no dishwasher.

The biggest problem I have with American Home Shield is I have fourplexes that are covered and they put down on their computer **, 1 to 4. I tell them all the time to put the apartment number down because I have apartments 1, 2, 3, and 4. They never, ever put the apartment number down. For example, the water heater in number 2 goes. When I call up for that unit, they come in and they repair it. The next month, I have a problem with the water heater for number 3. They tell me I just got a water heater and I say, “No, I got a water heater in ** number 2, not number 3." I'm having that problem right now with another fourplex.
I got a water heater in number 6, and they're telling me, “No, you don't deserve another water heater. You got a water heater just a month ago.” “No, that was number 6. Now, I'm talking about number 8.” Either they're screwed up, or I am. They told me all the apartments (1, 2, 3, and 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) are covered under one contract, which I've been paying for for years. I've never had this problem ‘til recently when they got these people from the Philippines. They're very sweet and nice, but they don't know a lot of things. Like this problem. I've been complaining to American Home Shield about this for the past two years, but nobody does anything about it.
Yesterday, I put a claim in and they tried to deny it. Many, many times, I never call them for the little things like clogged pipes or things that my handyman can take care of. I feel that I should have American Home Shield for the big stuff, so I don't even bother calling them for the small stuff. I pay my bills on time too. I've been with them before they were American Home Shield and they've been very good to me. I like them, but this apartment thing is a problem and except for this, I'm very satisfied.

I had a school in my home and the heater went out. I had to get some heat immediately in my house. When American Home Shield sent someone out, the company that had come out to do the preview to see whatever was going on found a problem that AHS said they didn't see. It was this leak that was in the floor. So, they sent somebody out and AHS wanted to cut a big hole in my wall where there was a window the techs could easily get in to. The AHS said they couldn't get in there with a heater but the techs did. So, I had to choose not to use Home Shield. Instead, we did a buyout and they told me what they would pay towards the job which was about $800. We were stuck with the big deal so I don't even know why we have American Home Shield.
We also had a tech come 20 minutes late. I told him that I thought the appointment was between 1:00 and 4:00 and that is what I had written down. He said it was between 2:00 and 6:00. So, I just to him thank you. He didn't do anything but he got paid the $75 which I need to call AHS about. With AHS, it's fairly easy to get anything major repaired. The technicians from Environmental Heating and Air were absolutely fantastic. For almost 20 years, we've had someone else do the annual check on heating and air. Those techs would see some things that were wrong and they always gave us a printout.
There was nothing hidden about it. It wasn't somebody just talking and telling me “Hey, well, the furnace is this and that and the other.” Then, they would go about their business. American Home Shield told me they do the checks now and that they would send someone to check my heating and air out. They said the person who will come out would come back and give the report of what they found.
So, I called American Home Shield about us needing some repairs done and they made an appointment. They got the $75 before the contractor came out which I didn't like. Also, AHS never asked me for the report of what the techs found. The tech came out four days later and he agreed to some of the things that I showed him, the list that the techs had done. He said that AHS is not going to give me a new heater or a new this or that. So, I'm wondering why I am waiting and why I am continuing to pay American Home Shield. Still, they come out and fix my issue every time. As long as the warranty works, I'll just let them come. But, I would not recommend AHS to my friends.
I've had some good repairs done through them but those weren't major things like heating and air. We're not going to continue to pay $350. Also, they told me that they don't have Freon anymore and they told me that if my unit goes out, they're gonna replace it. They didn't do that. They came up with Freon from somewhere and we had to pay for it. It was very expensive.

I had a toilet that ran when I had replaced the flapper myself. So, when a tech person came in, he said, “Oh, your chain is too long.” He fixed that, tightened it up, and then when he left, it did not run. Then, he went into the other bathroom where I had problems with the shower. He said the cartridge needed to be replaced. He asked where the water shut-off was, and I'm a new owner to that place and I don't know where. He kind of looked around in the patio and he couldn't find it. He said to let them know when I find out where it is. In the meantime, an hour after he left, I noticed a high pitched hum. I went and turned my water off, and the high pitched hum stopped. My neighbors said there probably is a water shut off. I'm going to call a private plumber next time because I feel like the AHS contractors just do half the job. They do the very minimum because they're not paid for more. AHS pays for the least amount possible, and replacements are a last resort.

I submitted the claim to American Home Shield on a Friday so they were able to come out that day but if something happened over the weekend, I would have been stuck. They weren't gonna send anybody out until Monday and that would have been bad. The contractor and the process were both great, but I'm glad it wasn't the weekend. American Home Shield is almost like car insurance. I've been paying for car insurance since 1994 and I've never needed it until three or four years ago. It's a peace of mind knowing that it's gonna take care of me when I need it. I don't feel that way with American Home Shield. In the three times I've ever needed it, it has been a disaster. Last year, the air went out and it took two months for someone to respond. By that time, it was winter so I didn't need the air anymore. I ended up calling back in to have someone come out when it got a little bit warmer again and it worked out okay. But the initial experience was horrible.
Currently, I have five bags of dirty clothes. I called in service on December the 8th and my issue still has not been taken care of. AHS took an extra $100 out of my account which still has not been credit. The very first contractor that was supposed to come out couldn't fix all the things that needed to be done. So, they canceled that and set up Dial One McConnell and then A & S Plumbing.
A&S Plumbing is a 5-star company. They fixed my garbage disposal and also my son's bathroom toilet. Not only were they very professional, they were also personable. The tech did everything he said he was gonna do on the very first visit. I didn't even have to ask for him to put a mask on or put on foot booties. If I ever have any plumbing issues, I hope I can go directly to A&S and bypass American Home Shield because the people they are using are not as good. Dial One McConnell's tech came out on the 11th, looked at stuff, said, "I'll get back with you." I've called them directly six times and they won't return my phone calls. I've called American Home Shield four times and I'm getting that the escalation department doesn't work on weekends.

It's all online and it goes very quickly. They also update you via text so you always know what's happening. The only issue that I have with having a home warranty is it takes at least 24 business hours before you get a call. I have a feeling as a home warranty user, you kind of go to the bottom of their queue.
I called on a Friday with no heat and we finally got a callback to schedule the appointment on the following Wednesday. They came the following Monday so we were without heat for nine days. But the guy was great. He had us going in about five minutes and showed me what was wrong. He had to order some parts and talked me through what to do if it stopped working again to get it going temporarily. Since we were so close to Christmas, I got a call later from their office saying that if the part came in on the morning of the 23rd, they'd be out the afternoon of the 23rd to fix it. If it came in the afternoon, they'd be out on the 28th. They came out on the 28th as promised and fixed it.

The two guys that came were really efficient and quick. The damage that was happening because of that leak is being contained now because they fixed it that quick. They were pretty responsive too. But I need to call them back 'cause the new pipe that they put on there is still a little leaky.
I called HSA in October and they had some special going on for a home warranty to get our furnace serviced before winter. So I paid my $75 but I could never get anybody to come out and do my services. They didn't want to come out on weekends. I still didn't have service on my heater. Then when I called to do the warranty to get them to check on the leak, the guy wanted me to pay $50. But it still doesn’t matter. We've had our warranty on our home since we've bought this home and I tell people that whatever amount I pay for the warranty every year, I don't care. If it doesn't pay off this year, something will break and it will pay off for itself. So I'm fine with paying a $50 deductible.

The claim was a waste of money because the person from Southwest Gas who told me that the furnace was not working didn't check the valve on it. The person who came from Doctor Cool showed me that the valve was closed, which was why the downstairs furnace was not working. He felt bad having to do that but he showed me that’s what it was. It was annoying that it was something so simple. But it happened with another claim I made with American Home Shield. A drain valve wasn’t open on the dishwasher and the guy showed up, and he took five minutes and did it. I can’t get my money back but it is what it is. Doctor Cool was wonderful and everything was great.

I have a top stove and a separate oven. The oven is next to it in another location and it was not cooking correctly. P. G. Appliance Service came in PPE-prepared. They spoke plain English instead of electrical English to me, so I was able to understand it. Their service was great. When the guy looked under there, he noticed that it was busted at the top where the boiler gears come on, that was why it wasn't getting hot because I couldn't broil anything in my oven. He said he was going to put in a thing to let him know if it couldn't be repaired. I just wish he was able to fix it.
I called American Home Shield and I never got through to anybody just to let them know it was unrepairable. I'm getting ready to remodel, so I would call them again if they would help me out with the appliance. I deal with them a lot. They'll fix the garage door, but they won't fix the switch that works the garage door. They'll fix the door, but they won't fix the handle that’s broken on the door. Overall, it’s a great insurance to have when you don't have a lot of money.

Affordable Appliance Repair was dispatched to repair my dishwasher for the detergent dispenser. The guy was very helpful. He had to come back and got it all taken care of the second time. Everything's been working good ever since.
Reviewed Dec. 24, 2020
The guy that was dispatched out here the first time didn't want to be here. He'd act like he was mad and frustrated and he wasn't friendly at all. He didn't even check the upstairs unit. He only went outside for 5 to 10 minutes and said, "Okay, this is what you need." I trusted him. After he got the part that he had said that my unit needed and he put it on, he said, "Well, you're good to go." I said, "All right. No problem." We then came to find out that that wasn't the problem. A day later, we were having the same problem. I thought, "Well, maybe it just takes time," and it wasn't. I called the guy back and he said, "No, I put the part on there. I know it was fixed. I know it was working before I left." I said, "You put the part on, you were only here for 10 minutes. So what do you want me to do?"
He said, "Well, I'll come back out there," but he also said, "If I come out there and I find there's nothing wrong..." I said, "Look, I don't want you to come on my property at all. You do not set foot on my property or I will call the cops and have you removed." He was just heated. I don't deal with things like that. He said, "I'm gonna call my boss and get to the bottom of this." I said, "Well, you do what you got to, but I don't want you on my property." He hung up the phone on me and his boss called and he said, "I am so sorry. You should not be dealing with any of this. I've already taken care of the guy and I am personally coming back to your property. I'm the owner of the company."
The owner came by, went thoroughly through everything, and found multiple problems with the unit upstairs that his personal guy didn't catch. The owner took care of it and he went through the whole nine system check. He was very nice, friendly, down-to-earth and said, "I don't care what it takes, we're going to take care of you to make it right." For him to have done that was above and beyond the expectation. He said, "Look, I'm not here to tell you that you did anything wrong. You didn't do anything wrong. It was my employee that did wrong. I'm just gonna let you know that I have handled that situation. He is no longer part of my company. I hired him because he was one of my best friends. And we want to make sure that my business is taken care of." He also said, "At the end of the day, it's about the customer. If you're not happy, then we're not doing our jobs."
I'm not going to hold the owner responsible for what his employee did because it wasn't the owner's fault. That's also not a reflection of his company. That was just a bad employee, and the owner took care of it and he made sure we were taken care of. I've got his personal number. He said, "If you have any problems, call me and let me know." The day after he did the service, he even called me on a Saturday to say, "Look, I want to check with you to make sure everything is working right." I said, "Hey, it works perfect." He did right by his customers and he followed up to say, "Hey, I'm checking on you to make sure you and your family's warm this winter." That went over the top for me.

I had a case open due to flooding in my bathroom. The plumber diagnosed what it was and he couldn't handle it. They referred the information back to Home Shield. I talked to them and said I need somebody out here that day and a new contractor was out on the same day. There have been numerous breakdowns that I've had that have been replaced or repaired.
But it would be nice if they have more stateside customer service. We ended up in a contest with overseas agents that didn't want to refer us to someone that could solve our problem. There was a credit applied to my wife's account that did not get applied. They showed that she owed some sum of money on the account and it wouldn't open up a case. It seemed like communication was a problem and the agent almost flat refused to give us a manager. It seemed like they thought they'd get in trouble if they did so they tossed around and around. That was a very unpleasant experience for customer service. Other than that, Home Shield does a good job.

I have nine contracts now with American Home Shield. When the washing machine was leaking, I made a claim online and the AHS website was easy to use. A tech came relatively quickly. This claim was good. AHS is very black and white. They are good if it’s an easy one-time fix and if they are lucky enough to send a good provider. Williams Dependable was one of their providers and they were great. But the moment a claim is not an easy fix, there's a delay and it's a struggle. I had a claim that I had to submit to arbitration. There was a water heater replacement that went terrible over a month ago. AHS only offered a fraction of the replacement cost for no good reason. The arbitration claim was won and they settled it right away. AHS canceled my policy on that one. Interestingly, they didn’t cancel my other policies with them.

I've got carpets upstairs and the gentleman that came by did not have booties for the carpet. But I had spares, so I let him borrow those and he kept them. Still, American Home Shield is a great service. I got the $100 deductible one, which has a little bit more coverage. I'm completely happy. R&R came out and fixed my fan in the bathroom. Their tech did a great job. He was very efficient and he tried to get it to work without replacing it but there was a broken part. He had to replace the whole fan vent. But it works good now. I was also asking him about some of my breakers in the apartment. He checked them for me and told me about them. It wasn't an emergency that they needed to be replaced, which was reassuring. I really liked the guy and he was very knowledgeable. They still have to come back for the microwave. My washer caught fire because of a loose wire. I put a claim under washer and dryer because I wasn't sure which one was actually messed up because it was stackable. When the techs came out, they found the wire then said that while they were here they were going to go ahead and replace a part that they felt was going to be an issue down the line. That was a positive thing.
The ice maker of my refrigerator was also broken. They tried to fix that but they couldn't. They said they would call me when the parts came in for the refrigerator and they would come back and fix it all at one time. But they never contacted me to say whether the parts were in. When I called three weeks later, they said, "It just didn't get updated for some reason, because the part for the refrigerator wasn't coming in.” My claims with the washer and dryer and icemaker were all attached to one invoice. Because one issue was technically closed, they closed out the other one when it was the opposite. The other one was still open and they forgot about it. It wasn't a big deal because I could go to my parents and I wasn't in a dire need of the appliance. That would be the only negative thing.
I went through with the reimbursement option. I have now purchased a new refrigerator and I'm waiting on that check to be finalized. I had until the 11th to decide and I submitted the paperwork through email last Friday. I sent in this past week my receipt for the reimbursement. I received an email back immediately saying that it would take 7 to 21 business days. Overall, I am 110% very satisfied with everything.

He was also able to give me a really good recommendation for the repair work that would ultimately need to be done.
Fortunately, the actual fix itself was relatively minor. He identified the issue almost immediately. He replaced the angled pipe I had that was pretty corroded. I didn't owe him anything. Everything seems to be working great since then. I feel so much more secure knowing that I have AHS. I know that there is not 100% chance that things will be covered, but there's a shot. I was a little bit disappointed with American Home Shield. I called and scheduled an appointment for my air conditioners to be serviced. They scheduled for someone to come out, and when the young man came, he discovered that we had two air conditioners. Nobody told him anything about that. He only changed the filter on one of my air conditioners and said that I would have to make another call for him to come out again. I called and the lady said that she'd schedule me and let them know that I needed another person to come out and do that. I told the guy while he was here that American Home Shield already put in a work order for him to come back. I called American Home Shield back again because I didn’t hear anything, and I talked to a guy that sounded like an Indian.
I had another conversation with the people from the place that had the technician come out. The lady said they didn't have any record that American Home Shield had requested that they come back out to put the filter in the second one. They didn't do anything except to make sure that the air conditioner is working. She asked me if the one I talked to the second time I called had an accent. I said yes. Then she said that AHS had them contracted out to somewhere else. I just told her to forget about it. I would just see if I could get somebody else. The only thing that the guy would do is change the filter anyway and I would sure hate to have to pay $75 again for somebody to put that one.
My husband and I are elderly. We can't go out and put the air conditioner filter in. I was excited about the fact that American Home Shield offered the service that they would come and check the air conditioners and do that that was why I called them. I've never had any problems prior to this experience so this was just a situation where I was not satisfied. It seems like there's no communication across the board there. The lady from the people that were supposed to come said that American Home Shield assumed I read my contract. I can't blame them for me not knowing everything on there.

I've used American Home Shield about six times. The first was for my air condition. Every season, like in the spring, the air conditioning and heating people will give a $75 service charge that they come down, inspect, and make sure everything's working well with the air conditioner. Then, in the fall, it’s $130, which still isn't bad, and they check the heater unit out. Now, they came down and checked it, found something was wrong, called American Home Shield, and said that a part was getting worn. They asked to fix it and they would come out soon. AHS got that discount.
Sometimes, they send off-brand people and it wouldn't be somebody that you would call. But then they're pretty good. I don't understand why people complain about AHS and say they don't pay for things. They pay for certain parts and they tell that in the contract. The rest of the stuff is on you. So far, I've only paid a $100 service charge when they came down and fixed my air conditioner, my dryer, my washing machine, my refrigerator, and then the plumbing. If something breaks, there is a certain amount that is on you, and a certain amount is on them. Even if you pay more than half, you're still getting out with not paying $10,000 for a new air conditioner. So, I'll keep them until they give me problems.
My girlfriend just had her thermostat on her heater replaced for $500. I told her that if she had American Home Shield, or even any warranty company, she would have paid a service charge of $100 and that’s it. That part would have been included. But she was leery about them. I told her that she could cancel them if she doesn't like them.
With my recent claim, when Mr. Plumber or Doctor Plumber came down, the toilet was leaking out of the tank because the flap was worn down. They replaced the flap and it was working fine. Then all of a sudden, I found water leaking behind my toilet. It was like rolling from underneath the tank where the pipe from the wall comes out. The guy from Ray Stovall Plumbing came out and said that the pipe was fine. What was going on was in the tank, the flap was replaced, but the whole thing needed to be replaced because it was worn. It kept pumping out water, spraying up against the side of the tank, going underneath the lid, and rolling down the tank to that pipe and dripping on the floor, that was why I thought it was coming from the pipe because I put my hand on the bottom, but I didn't raise my hand up to the top. He replaced the whole gadget inside it and fixed it in 10 minutes.
The only problem I have with AHS is that when doing calls, their sales representatives are based in India or some other country, and I cannot understand some of them. I wish they would have Americans handling it. Before, the people who spoke English were doing that. Now, it's difficult. Even the service people tell me that. The last time for my washing machine, a man came down and he was on the phone with them, trying to explain the stuff. He couldn't understand a word they were saying. I agreed with him. I had to tell them to speak really slow. AHS got to look at this. I have recommended them. But I have warned people that when they go for a service call, they're going to be on the phone for a while because they may get somebody that speaks English well, or they may get somebody they're gonna have to take a little more time with.

I would suggest that American Home Shield should keep the case open until I'm sure that something is fixed.
I also had an air condition expense earlier this year and it wasn't covered because of the type of coils. I actually ended up just replacing the whole thing. I was out the $75 that I had to pay when they come out. I felt that fee because I had them come out and give me a quote through whatever company that was assigned. Then, it was beneficial to me, in the long run, to get it fixed ‘cause they were charging me quite a bit.
Some of the stuff isn’t covered that I thought would be covered and I'm almost paying more to do it through AHS. I don't think anybody reads into each item to see exactly what is covered when they're signing the policy. But then it just depends on luck on what item goes out, and how long one can wait to get it fixed, or wait for them to send somebody out. I had one where there was something to do with the dishwasher and that was all covered.

Our fuse box is 30 plus years old and we have issues with fuses popping frequently. I feel like the fuse box needs to be updated but the guy said that's not an issue that American Home Shield will cover. All he did was rearrange a few things in the fuse box and called it a day. We also called AHS 15 days ago for our furnace and it is still out. They sent out a company that checked it and diagnosed the problem. They said they ordered a part and we're still waiting on them to come back with the part to fix it. We've had some pretty cold temperature here on Ohio and it makes it a little difficult trying to stay warm in your house whenever the temperatures are down around zero. AHS could improve on their customer service. You can't get ahold of a human at all. If you need to talk to somebody about an issue, you got to go through their computer-generated process and it takes forever to try to get anything accomplished with that thing.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and just to make sure it went through, I called and their reps verified that everything had gone through. They told me the name of the company that would be calling me. That went very smoothly. Warhold Mechanicals was fantastic. They came right out at the time that they called and went to work. The techs loved the dogs even though the dogs were annoying and they were very friendly. They worked until the job was completed 100% and then cleaned up. AHS is very easy to use. I've had positive experiences with American Home Shield, except one being my dishwasher. It doesn't work and I need to buy another one. I've been here five years and I've lived it out. I was hoping I could get help on their end for it, but they were never able to justify it even though the repair people even said I needed it. They were able to cover it, and my plan said to cover it, but they disagreed with the multiple people and I didn’t know their reasoning. It needed to be replaced.
It was many years ago that I had a washer and dryer set that went bad and they were really supportive with that. Multiple times a person had to come out and fix something and said that they got to replace it. They weren't that way with the dishwasher. They have gotten harder to work with when it comes to replacement of products. It means a lot to me that I can have something repaired. But as far as the support of the appliances, they could do better. However, the repair I just recently had a couple weeks ago was smooth and fine. We had a stopped up sink. I submitted it online and I heard from the fellow on Sunday. He came on Monday and was very good. He took care of everything. It's all been working efficiently.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

When the guy came, he said that the bust wasn't inside the house and American Home Shield didn't cover it. But the effect was felt inside the house and it affected even the walls and all these things. We spent almost 4,000 fixing it. Recently, we had no heat in the house. The system stopped working. We requested service on Friday and it took three days to get it rectified, and we had a baby in the house. I had to be calling and escalating it. The contractor didn't come till about 3:00 PM on Monday. He was very cordial and got it working right then. My satisfaction was that the job was done. But it took time for him to come.

Our downstairs heat went out. So we figured it was the furnace. We called American Home Shield for them to come and service it or take a look. Calling in was pretty easy. The technician was very nice. He came with a mask on. I appreciated that because we have kids at the house. He just went in there, spent a little bit of time trying to figure out what was going on with it, and he was able to find the issue.
They had to come out a second time. The heat worked, and then about two days later, it stopped working. We kind of had to go two or three days without it because of the holidays. We called them to come out and they were able to schedule an appointment the same day. They came back and realized the igniter had went out. They went ahead and replaced that part. We haven't had any issues since. American Home Shield, overall, is easy to use, convenient and reliable to me.

They had to order the part so it took a while. Then they came back a second time to install the part but something else happened or they didn't order enough parts. They ended up having to come four times and they finally got it going. They were great about it and told me what they were doing. They were very nice and professional. I’m not happy with American Home Shield. I'm pregnant and I have a baby, and they let us go without hot water throughout the whole house for seven days. It was the worst experience ever. Our water heater was old and corroded and it stopped working. So we called American Home Shield the second it went out and they said that we were covered. Then they just stopped talking. There was no communication for three days. This should have been fixed that Saturday but instead, it was fixed just today.
It turned out that I had to approve an extra charge because I wouldn't be covered for something that was mandatory. I had to call American Home Shield to approve that so they could order the part and be put into the company instead of them calling me that same day and telling me that. American Home Shield didn't tell Home Choice what they needed and they didn't order the parts on time, and they didn't tell them where to go. They told Home Choice to go to Lowe's when it was at Home Depot. So it wasn't Home Choice's fault. They did as good of a job as they could have done.

I originally put in the claim for the oven back in September and there was a big mix up with the people that my wife was contacting and talking. They offered her a cash out so my wife was under the assumption that it meant they will replace the oven by paying for the oven. Nobody explained to my wife what the cash-out processes is. After I took over and I started communicating with them, I came to find out that the cash-out was only for parts and labor. So it was a mess. I pay my monthly dues every month, and if I have a problem, I expect for the problem to be fixed.
Here we are in December and about a week ago, a gentleman came out, and this oven was deemed fixable by replacing parts. So the gentleman came out and put new parts in. It worked fine while he was here. But when he left, it stopped working again. So I called back again and I requested that the gentleman come back again to figure out what the problem is. So it's a reoccurring problem. The gentleman who came out here last time called me today and said he was on his way here.
We were not even able to cook a Thanksgiving dinner and it was very upsetting to me. I had to go and buy a prepared dinner to have a Thanksgiving dinner. Without an oven for this long, I'm having to sometimes cook stuff that needs to be baked. I'm having to do it in my grill. But when my cooktop went out, they came on and said it was not repairable. It had to be replaced and it was quick. We went up and bought one from Home Depot, and I was reimbursed for that. Overall, I appreciate American Home Shield's excellence and quick response.

Fire and Ice Heating and Cooling was amazing and really honest. In one of my zones, my unit was not blowing hot air and it would say that the auxiliary heat kicked out. Fire and Ice's guy came on time and put shoe covers on. He found that the issue was a simple thing and that the compressor outside was just frozen. He defrosted it and the unit works fine. It was funny because someone came to see that unit before and that HVAC guy said that I needed a whole new system and gave me a quote for 5,500. I made the mistake of telling that to the Fire and Ice Guy because he could have easily said I needed a whole new unit. He said I don't need a new one.
Sometimes, American Home Shield's website is a little quirky if I try to put multiple things in. I have to do each claim individually. I usually end up calling instead 'cause I'm computer illiterate. I call at night when people aren't around so it works out easily. Besides the website, everything else is fine. I tell everybody about AHS. My father and I got it and so did my father-in-law. I made a service request on March 29, 2020 for heat pump shutting off. It took AHS a total of four months to replace the compressor on my heat pump after two HVAC contractors abandoned the job. The request was assigned to a third contractor who installed the compressor on July 29, 2020. I was without heat then air conditioning for a 4 month period. I had to purchase fans and portable air conditioners to keep my home at a tolerable temperature as the home is occupied by two adults in their nineties with health issues.
My heat pump failed again on December 15th. AHS sent out a contractor who evaluated the heat pump and recommended that the unit be looked at by an Ameristar certified HVAC technician due to the history of issues with the unit. The heat pump is only 3 years 4 months old. The authorizations dept refuses to send the Ameristar tech. Meanwhile, I am heating with electric space heaters. I have been a customer since 2008. I would not recommend this warranty company. Customer service is horrendous. I have spent endless hours on the phone trying to get this resolved. In addition, I was forced to spend money out of my pocket for fans, portable air conditioners and higher utility bills due to the inaction of AHS. My contract is coming up for renewal in February. I do not plan to renew my contract. I will be looking for a new warranty company.

13 days later and still waiting on AHS to approve the work to be done to fix my heat and hot water issues. No call backs from a supervisor and their standard answer is something will be done in 24-48 hours. On 12/10/20 my water heater and boiler stopped working. Temperature outside was 37 degrees and was dropping and it was expected to be in the 30s overnight.
I contacted AHS to take advantage of my home warranty and was informed that they will record my issue and someone will be in touch with me in24-48 hours. When I told them how cold it was I was informed that their policy was that they cannot send someone out as an emergency unless temperature was below 32. I explained that I lived with my two kids and my 80 year old mother. They said sorry but that was their internal policy. I asked to speak with a supervisor for approval and was told that they were busy but my name would be added to the queue and a supervisor will contact me with one 24 hours.
13 days later and I am still waiting on that supervisor to call. I was provided the name of the plumbing company that will contact me within 24-48 hours for service to come out and see what the issue was. Again this did not resolve my immediate issue with hot water or heat in the house. I was forced to get my space heaters and place them throughout the house that night so we can have some heat. Temperature overnight got to 30 degrees outside and 67 in the house with 3 heaters at max. The next day I called the plumbing company to come out and try to fix my issue.
The company sent a tech which was able to get my hot water and boiler to restart but the leak that developed due to faulty gaskets was not able to be fixed because they required authorization from AHS. My hot water and boiler continues to turn off and I have to manually restart it while still waiting on this service to be completed. The same day I called the plumbing company come out to try and fix my issue I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. AHS was quick to call me regarding this complaint. That is on 12/16/20 is when I received the call. The representative was very understanding and apologized and said that she was willing to reimburse me for the heaters which I told her I was not interested but just wanted my issue fixed. She said she will look into it and expedite the matter.
On 12/22/20 I again contacted AHS to see where things stood and see when service will be completed, at which point I was told that the authorization for approval of the work to be done was submitted on 12/20/20 (4 days after they called me to apologize) and was told that it will take 24-48 hours for it to get approved which it would have been the 22nd when I called. I asked that this is ridiculous and that this should have been done sooner. The representative said she will expedite the matter and someone will be in touch in 48 hours with me. I said that this seems to be their standard answer that everything with them to get an answer is 24-48 hours. I told them that I would be more than happy to speak with the CEO or President of their company but I am sure that will also take 24-48 hours and since I am still waiting to speak with a supervisor 13 days later I will not hold my breath.
Worst customer service ever encountered. They never seem to follow through, and the customer service standard answer is something should be done in 24-48 hours. The outsourcing for the customer service is atrocious. They never have an answer, and there is never a call back. Will see if this goes anywhere. Thank you for letting me vent.

I switched to American Home Shield and they are so much better. Recently, my unit wasn't kicking on at night. So, when it was cold out, it would only blow out cold air, but during the day, it would blow out warm air. You go online, submit the claim and your copay. I had the person called within a day to set it up. It has been quick and easy on that aspect.
The first time Air Squad came, they couldn't find any problem. They said it was fine. The second time they came, they looked a bit more. They replaced some solenoid past the compressor and said that should fix the problem. The third time they came, they found, because it has been getting so cold here in Vegas, that there was a valve that has been tripping off because it would get so cold that it would allow it to open up to let the gas through. They ordered the part and received it. They are coming back tomorrow to put the valve onto the system. On all the returns, AHS did not charge any fees. In that aspect, I'm happy with them.

There was an AC guy that came out and tried to tell me that my unit wasn’t covered and I had every coverage available. I found out later I was right, he was wrong, so they sent somebody else out. But that was aggravating because I had to wait two or three weeks for anybody to show up. I was really tempted not to go with American Home Shield again, but a friend of mine told me that they had improved and so I did. So far, it has been better. Big D Key recently came in and rekeyed my locks. The guy was nice. Then I looked at my bank account this morning, and for the rekey, it was $75 that came out. But then whenever they came out and checked my washer and dryer, it was $80 and some change. I was just curious as to what the difference was. It was not a big deal.

Our clothes dryer wouldn’t shut off. We could set the timer on wherever we want it to and when we come back, it still runs. We called American Home Shield and they sent a Sears guy out. He did whatever he does and declared at some point that it was all done and working and off he went. In the ensuing days, my wife said that it was still doing the same thing. Just for the sake of safety, I tried it myself and it was also what my wife said.
I called back and told them about it. The man came back out and worked on it again. It was the same technician. Then he said it was all done and working well, and he was gone. My wife noticed this hole in the front of the dryer. It’s about the size of a quarter and cut in half, sort of a concave half-moon shape. I looked at it closely and put my finger in the hole, and it was really smooth like it was done with an instrument that poked the hole there perfectly with no rough edges. Then my wife told me yesterday that the dryer still won’t shut off.
American Home Shield has been helpful on sending somebody. The issue is on Sears’ side and the fact that they are sending the same person who's not getting accomplished what he's supposed to get accomplished on which he thinks he is. The dumb dryer is not turning off and that's gonna cause a fire one of these times if we're not careful. Then the other thing is we have no idea where this hole came from.
I like the idea where one could just call and they send somebody out, and they come out and fix whatever the issue happened to be, and that was that. But it hasn't worked out for us at all and I'm very dissatisfied with this particular incident. If and when somebody comes out again, it will be the third time. We need this completed so that we get satisfied with our dryer.

We have a two-storey townhouse. If you go upstairs, one of the bathrooms, you turn the hot water on, you can't leave your hand underneath the hot water because it gets so hot. You went to the tub, same thing. Five seconds, the water is steaming hot. That's fine. Then you mix it with cold, and you take a warm shower.
But you come down to the first floor, and you go to the kitchen sink and turn the hot water on, all it does is send out cold water for 20 seconds, and then it starts to warm up. But it doesn't warm up enough for me to take my hand away from it. I can just let the water run on my hand. It's warm, but it's not affecting my hand enough for me to, “Aw, it was hot.” You just wait. It doesn't do that. The guy came out and I told him what was going on, and he went out to the garage. I stayed in here in my den watching TV while he was out there fixing it. He called me to the garage, he said, “Hey, you're good to go. Here's the invoice.” He put my name on it and it said, “Date 12/18/20. Replaced burnt out electric thermostat.”
Today was one of my days off and I went over there, straightened it up and put stuff in the dishwasher. I turned the hot water on, then I went upstairs. I came back and started rinsing my dishes off, and I noticed that the water was hot. The guys came out here on the 18th and here we are back to square one. We got plenty of hot water upstairs. No problem. Down here, I can turn it on in my kitchen area. I kept standing there for 20 minutes with hot water running on my hand, and it won't burn me. I can’t figure out why it doesn't work downstairs, but it does work upstairs. It might be a plumbing problem I have. But the tech said he fixed the problem, but it didn't.
I called American Home Shield today and they said somebody was supposed to call me and set an appointment to come back out. The guy said, “Well, you might have to pay for another service call.” I said, “Why should I have to pay for another service call when it's doing the same thing it did when I paid my $75?” I gave him my debit card over the phone. He said I had to pay before the service guy could come out. He was already paid when he came to the door and rang the doorbell, but it's not working correctly.
Other than that, we got everything replaced through American Home Shield. I got lucky when I bought the townhouse. The warranty was transferable so we kept it. And lo and behold when they put a new roof on before we moved in, whoever did it punctured the coil line up in our attic and the AC went out. And then a month later, the dishwasher went out. We have those old school coils on top for the cooking of food. That also went out. We got a new stove, dishwasher, and a refrigerator no problem. But the thing was, it was working. American Home Shield would send a guy out, open it up, put something on, and it's good to go. They would never come in the actual house, went upstairs and see if there was anything wrong with the unit upstairs. So every time they will come out, it was something they did with the front. Because no one was here when they did the work. Then we came when it was working.

It’s not easy submitting a claim to American Home Shield because it takes time for them to answer. They have a lot of calls and sometimes, you need to wait a little longer. But the tech came for the heater and fixed the problem. I had only one bad issue with AHS because one technician came over and said that he was gonna fix it. But then, AHS sent another one. And another one who was younger. They didn’t do anything because it was supposed to be our fault. It was not logical but they AHS had the rules. Still, the other things that they fixed were good and I’m still with them.
When you get a home, the owner must provide insurance for the home and if you have one, it saves you money. People should contract with American Home Shield although they should be aware that there are some issues that they don’t cover because that depends on the opinion of the technician. Sometimes, it's not your fault but they say it's your fault and they don't cover.

The claims process with American Home Shield was very quick. I called and they told me they would dispatch someone. I got a call shortly thereafter from the company saying they had been dispatched and would be there within a day or two. The new microwave is working fine. The tech initially fixed a part in it. They found what was wrong but it went out again very shortly after. They determined it was a defect in the actual microwave oven. So, they replaced the whole thing. It was a different model and it was an upgrade. It seems to be nicer and better than the first one, and it works. American Home Shield did a good job. The other claim I had with them was a stopped-up toilet. I got a quick and excellent response both times. The technicians took care of it. They were very nice people and they seemed very professional. So, that’s always important. My renewal is coming up early next year and I plan to renew with AHS.

I had a guy doing some work under my house and he noticed that one of the air conditioning ducts was laying on the ground. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and a contractor came out. It turned out that part of the ducting had come off and there was a hole and was blowing hot air. They fixed that and got the ducting reconnected, so it is working properly. But when they were submitting what they did to AHS, the lady hit the wrong button. I got an email saying that what they did wasn't covered. I called them back and they checked into it. They found out that when the lady was doing her submission online, she hit the wrong spot. They corrected it and it was all taken care of.

U.S. Plumbing came out on time and they were able to resolve my issues in a timely manner. I was happy with the services. The tech was excellent. He took his shoes off while entering the home and he cleaned up after himself when he finished doing his work. American Home Shield gives you peace of mind if you have any home appliances that break down. Also for plumbing issues, you don't have to worry about finding a plumber. You just reach out to American Home Shield and get it covered. I submitted two claims online and within minutes, I got an email response telling me who was going to come out and gave me their contact information. I was able to make an appointment with that company quickly and everything went well.

The garbage disposal lasted a good while. But the inside had rotted out and the seals would not seals. That was where the water kept leaking. It was very easy to submit a claim for that and the guy from Patriot Plumbing who came out was great. He ended up replacing the garbage disposal. He did his thing and then he was gone. American Home Shield has been wonderful. I've dealt with them on a few occasions for different things. When we have something that's broken, of course, we want it to be fixed now. But when it comes to an issue that one of the appliances is as old as some of the ones I have, they have to see if they can fix the unit first and if they can't, they'll replace it. They got to check if they could find parts first. So on my end, I had to learn to have patience. But on other occasions, they've been great all the way around.

The guy was on time and professional. The lint trap wasn't going back into the dryer and there seemed to be a bead that was stuck down in there. He popped the bead out and that was it. I kind of thought that he would look at the dryer in general to make sure everything was functioning okay. So, that was a little disappointing. The fact that I paid $100 to have a bead removed was also problematic to me. I didn't expect it to be that much for him to come in and diagnose what was going on. I've had to call in other repair people. It was $50 for them to come in to look at it then if there was additional work that needed to be done, $50 was added to the total bill. I guess it's my fault that I don’t understand the process. I thought that the visit was less than $100. But it is what it is. I'm sure I'll need it again later.
I had AHS earlier then I let it go. I've got them this time for almost a year and this is the first time I've had to use it. I wasn't pleased with the claim experience too. It was a weekend when I did it and the person that they matched me with is a good 30 minutes away from me. I'm in Baltimore City and he's in one of the outlying counties further out in a smaller town. When I tried to contact him, I got an unnamed voicemail box to leave a message. That threw me ‘cause I had to wait. They told me I'd be contacted within 24 to 48 hours. But because it was a Friday, he didn't get back to me until Monday. I called him and he said, “I'm driving. I can't talk to you right now.”

He told me he'd try to get me in by three o'clock in the afternoon. I called to follow up and he said he'd be on his way and that he had to do an install. He came along with a worker and did what needed to be done. They had masks and foot coverings on and were very professional. The only disappointing part was I was on hold for a long time. Also, I have a couple of friends that have American Home Shield and they pay less of a deductible than I pay. Both of them have houses and I have a condo.

I wasn't getting any hot water or water pressure going into my shower. Submitting the claim was pretty simple. I paid upfront and then they let me know what company was gonna go out. They emailed me the name of the company that was gonna come here and then on the day of the install, they sent an email with the technician’s face and the ETA on when they were gonna arrive. So that was pretty cool. When the technician came out, he was there within five to 10 minutes, and then he got it fixed. The technician answered all my questions and then showed me what was going on. Everything went smoothly. He got the job done that needed to be done. I've been with American Home Shield for quite a while. Any problems that occur at my house, I don't hesitate to call them.

The main gear spindle broke inside our garage door opener. The unit needed to be replaced. I sent pictures to Pender because they asked, so they could show up with the right equipment or the right parts. They fixed it in an hour. It took them about two days to get to me, but it was not an emergency. They did great work and cleaned up after themselves. They even offered to take away the old garage door opener. I was very happy with their service.
When I spoke with Pender, they replaced the unit before American Home Shield gave them the authorization to do so. I was told by Pender that AHS hasn't gotten back to them, and it was his experience that that was common. So, versus making me, the customer, wait three or four more days, he would just go ahead and, in his experience, replace the part and allow the paperwork to catch up. If the subject matter expert, being the service technician, relays to AHS that a specific action needs to take place, then I don't understand why the customer has to wait while AHS either debates that with the service provider or tries to decide through a third party if that is the proper formula for the resolution. In other words, while all the A, B and C are going on, the customer is left with a defective appliance, the service should take precedence, and then the paperwork catches up.
When the homeowner calls, it's because they have an issue that needs to be attended to. Not everything is an emergency. My garage door wasn't an emergency, per se, but it could have been if I were going out of town and I didn't have a way to secure my door. That could have been an emergency. Or if I were an older person that couldn't manipulate the door and that is how I get my car out, that could have been an emergency. It should be incumbent on AHS to take the input from the service provider and go from there instead of the red tape tangling up the whole matter. Other than that, we have two homes and we have American Home Shield under each home. That should say something.

So far, so good.
It's a different story when I submitted a claim for our shower knob. It’s a nightmare that has been lingering for a good six months now. There were two things that I entered at once because they were all plumbing-related. One of them was the hot water heater and long story short, I decided to go with the cash out. I'm still waiting for the plumber that I chose to come and do the work so they can give me an invoice and then submit it to American Home Shield for cash out. That same company was supposed to also fix my shower knob, which is not turning at all. So I only have one temperature water. When it’s cold, the water comes out very cold. When it's warm, the water comes out burning. So lately, I'm freezing every time I take a shower. But the company said that they were going to call the manufacturing company of the knob. I haven’t heard anything from them yet and every time I call them, they don’t answer.

I've had two claims to American Home Shield. The latest one was for a washing machine and the icemaker on the refrigerator. The service people came out and said that they couldn't fix it. On the washing machine, I talked to a guy on December the 10th and he told me that they were mailing us a check, and we still haven't received the check. We bought our washing machine back around the middle of November.
American Home Shield was giving us $800. We’ve paid $1,000 for it. They're supposed to be reversing the $790 something, but we still haven't received our check. They weren't able to fix the washing machine. When I called in, I said, “It's the first time we've ever had anything wrong with the washing machine.” The washing machine has been great. We've had it serviced on a regular basis. We've never had a problem with it. It's never given us a moment’s trouble. Then all of a sudden, the agitator went out. We thought it could be fixed. So, I called them out to come look at it, and they sent Sears out here.
There were two guys that came out here. They pulled it out and looked at it, and run a test on it. They said it can't be fixed. I said, “No! That's absolutely the best washing machine I've ever had.” One of the guys said, “Ma’am, we just can't get parts for it.” He called his boss and they made some phone calls and did some other things while he was here. He said, “No, ma'am, we cannot get parts for it.” They were supposed to send somebody out the next week to fix the icemaker in the refrigerator. They didn't come out. I had to call back and say somebody was supposed to come out and look at my refrigerator three weeks ago. The same time I called in about the washing machine was the same time my icemaker had went out a week or two before that. So they got a service call on both.
The first guy on the refrigerator to come fix the icemaker was gonna be a month out before he could get here. I called them back and told them what they said. Then they put another guy in charge. The guy that came out here to look at my icemaker did not come until December the 9th, and it was the first week of November when I made my call. This is how long this has been going on. I still have not heard anything. The guy that came out looked at the refrigerator and he said, “It can't be fixed. There cannot be parts for it.” This was a completely different company. He said, “I'm gonna go and make some phone calls. And I’ll call you back. I’m gonna do some searching and we'll do some researching to see if I can find some parts.” He called me back the next day and he said, “Ma'am, I am so sorry but you just cannot get parts for it. The refrigerator’s gonna have to be replaced.”
I said, “Why here at Christmastime? Why here during the holidays? This cannot be happening to me." Also, I had to put two kids in braces, then my taxes are due. I've got to pay by the 31st. Every bit of this right here at the end of the year. I have yet to hear back. He told me that he submitted everything to American Home Shield, and I should hear from them. I check my emails daily. I have not gotten any emails. I've not gotten any phone calls. Nobody has left a message. I have not gotten any text messages. Nothing.
I can't even get my money back on the washing machine. What absolutely scares me about the refrigerator is they're gonna do the same thing to me. “You go buy the refrigerator. We will reimburse you.” Then they tell you that it can take up to 15 working days to get your check. But that's not true because that didn't happen to me on my washing machine. I don't have money just sitting back. I don't know why they can't just pay for it and be done with it or give me something to order from. I'm really frustrated with them right now because that's the reason why I pay a monthly fee for the insurance. I keep up my end. I've been with them for a year in August. They go up from 50 a month to 58 a month. I didn't even question it. I've made every payment. Right now, I'm not very happy with them.

We have three properties with American Home Shield and we're happy with them. We have had good experiences and some not so good ones. The last went very well and that's the way it should work. We have a problem and somebody comes out and fixes it. Our disposal hit the dust and flooded underneath our sink. We called American Home Shield on a Sunday evening and told them we had a problem. On Monday morning, a company called us and made an appointment for Tuesday. They came out, brought us a new disposal, and fixed the problem. It all went very smoothly.
In the past, we had a couple of issues. Our daughter had a refrigerator problem and the company that American Home Shield sent to the house was very frustrating to deal with. They made two or three appointments and did not show up. They never called nor did they answer their phone. Days went by and the refrigerator ended up completely dying. It was a big rigmarole and I couldn't even deal with it. I had to have my husband handle it. But that was in the middle of the COVID thing and they were probably short-staffed. I don't blame American Home Shield but I told them to not ever send that company out to my house again.

So, he had to order new sensors. He came back a week and a half later to install them. Something blew out on the other garage door and he switched that piece, and it started working. When he came out the second time, he disconnected the motherboard and cleaned it out. He reconnected it again and that seemed to work. But then, all of a sudden it opened up again. It seems to open and close on its own. So, they have to come back and look at that one. They haven't gone back yet but I haven't insisted because for four days, it hasn’t opened or closed on its own again. For some reason, just randomly, I would come out in the morning and the garage door would be halfway open. I would close it and then, I would be monitoring throughout the day and nothing happens.
It's working fine now but I don't know until when. The tech was super nice and professional. He took the time to come back and cleaned out the motherboard because when he finished working, he was still in the car. Then, he drove off and was making a U-turn and then, the door opened again. So, he came back, got out of the car, looked at the motherboard again, cleaned it out again and made sure everything was switched on.

The contractor working on our Viking oven has been analyzing the issue and coming back, getting different parts. It's been frustrating. We're waiting on parts again. AHS only has one provider for this area, which is part of the problem. It's a three-person company. First, the father came out, then the son, and then, the father came back out. And I can never reach them directly and they never answer the phone the first time. I have to leave messages. It has not been a very efficient process all the way down the line.
We had the same problem with the dishwasher. The tech couldn't order the parts and didn't know what parts to get. We ended up having to get a new dishwasher. We had a Viking and we ended up having to get a KitchenAid and pay for 50% of it. Our recent claim is about our furnace. We got the furnace fan fixed but the gentleman said it has not been cleaned in so many years so there are other problems. But he said AHS won't let him fix it until it completely breaks down and it's going to cost 10 times more once that happens. There is no prevention even though we just had a full-service cleaning.
A major issue in American Home Shield's processes is that the repair people cannot order parts to repair. They have to go back to AHS to purchase whatever the parts are, which they then ship to the service provider. Then, the service provider schedules an appointment. The process is extremely inefficient because of that. One time, AHS cannot find the parts for the oven and we found the parts, called AHS, told them where to order them, and gave them the part number. We're like working for AHS and paying for the plan. We have a lot of mixed feelings about stuff with American Home Shield to renew it.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

A tech came out for an air conditioner claim. All he did was take a water hose, run it through the unit, and cleared it out. He told me to do that every two months. But he didn't check the unit. A supervisor came out too and told me they couldn't do anything until the unit went out. That didn't make me feel good. My air conditioning bill is astronomical and it's not funny. My neighbor's electrical bill is so much lower than mine. One guy told me his bill was $600 and he runs his air conditioner more than I do.
My brother is an HVAC tech and he told me about spraying the unit out to make sure it stayed clean as well as those vents and stuff in-between. But there's something more wrong with the air conditioner. I run my AC during the summer at 78 degrees. SCE calls between 78 and 82 degrees. My windows were closed. My bill was last year $2,300. My AC unit is drawing a lot of amperages. The kicker is I got solar panels but my bill is still that high.
I told the supervisor I was going to find a company that could come out and do a professional job. I was very disappointed in the company that AHS all sent out. They also won't send anybody out to properly check my unit out. That is what ticks me off. AHS is supposed to be helping me. I had another company come out and they checked on my air conditioner. They said that the compressor’s temperature was off the charts so it was not working properly. These people that I had come out did a written thing. But there was no use of me even turning that written document in to AHS because there was nothing that was gonna be done. They were gonna keep sending out these jackleg people that don't want to do their job. The guys who came for my AC were almost just as bad as the people who came for the microwave and oven.
AHS had an appliance company come out and the guy from there didn't know what he was doing. He came out the first time at 10 o'clock at night when he was supposed to be there between 8:00 and 12:00. He then told me he was gonna be back and that I would be his first call the next day. He came out about 6 o'clock in the evening and said it was the first time he ever worked on a microwave. My console was all out and the parts were put in my garage. He was coming back the next day to take it all out, take it to the shop, and work on it.
I called and somebody was sent from the company. My microwave and oven were hanging halfway out of the wall. He came back and he put it all together. But my display was not on. When the same guy came back out, he didn't remember me nor could he remember that he was the one that put my oven back together and said, “Only thing it was was this little cardboard piece and that's all that needed to be done.” I asked, “Why did your guy have it almost taken out of my wall and had it all disconnected, and was gonna take it back to your shop?” He said he didn't know.
He wrote it up that we did something. But AHS has a record where I complained that this guy that came out was a crackhead and asked AHS not to send him or the company out anymore. I don't want them at my house because the guy lied. If you're lazy and can't do the job, then don't do it and refer it to somebody else. But don't lie.
Those claims aside, AHS did well when they sent the second subcontractor out to take care of my stove. They fixed the burner, which the other company lied and said it was due to water buildup. That wasn't even the case. That was the same company that came out and messed up my microwave display. I haven’t heard anything back on that. My display is not on. That never got repaired.

The people we had our heating contract from weren't able to tell us, and we didn't know when we'd run out, but the Home Shield gentleman was able to. He put a flexible hose in the pipe, and he was able to tell us how much. He was very capable and courteous. We were very pleased with his performance. American Home Shield is very capable.

John Hudgins Plumbing came to fix my hot water tank because it was leaking and the water wasn't getting hot. I called American Home Shield to let them know. They said they would have someone in 24 hours return my call. I wasn't expecting John Hudgins to come really fast because my hot water tank went out Thanksgiving Day. That was when I called American Home Shield, and I wasn't even expecting them to be there to answer that call that day, but they did. They went ahead and they called me on a Friday. They came Saturday. It was a quicker turnaround than what I anticipated. It was really nice.
The gentleman that came out to do the work at first thought the issue was just because it was leaking. So, we waited a few days and he kept coming back and checking on it, and then he found out that it was actually something wrong with the tank itself. When we found that out, they had to go to the Home Depot and they had to get another one. All in meanwhile, he would still come by and check to make sure we were alright. And the ladies in the office kept me in the loop. They would call and let me know what was going on and what needed to be done. Once we figured out exactly what needed to be done, I got it all taken care of with in about a week and a half later. American Home Shield has gotten a lot better. In the beginning, I was having some problems with different representatives or the different contractors they send out. They have got better with the contractors that they're using now.

We've been happy with AHS for the most part. Our biggest complaint would be last year when our refrigerator had troubles. We had somebody come out to repair it and they came out pretty much every other week. They'd make some minor repairs, think it was fixed, and then it would show the same problem again in a few days so we'd have to have somebody come back out. We were without a properly working refrigerator for three months. All the while, we were talking with the technicians and they were saying that they honestly didn't think that the refrigerator could be repaired but they couldn't get the permission to get it replaced until three months later. Other than that, we had a plumbing issue recently and our experience was good. Whitney Holdings fixed a couple of leaks underneath our sink. The repair was done really quickly and it has held up.

When our dishwasher stopped working altogether, a good company came and our interaction was great. The guys knew what they were doing as well. Unfortunately, they were unable to repair the dishwasher. There's no power to it at all. They resubmitted the claim and now we're in the process of getting a new dishwasher delivered. I've been in touch with the folks last week, but I haven't heard from them since then. It was a holiday so I'm sure I'll hear something from them this week. So far, American Home Shield’s always been on point. We have a problem, submit a claim, and they send somebody out quick. It's been good. I would advise people to at least look into them and see if it works for them the way it works to me.

I had two claims to Home Shield at the same time. I had the plumbing issue, which we haven't been able to resolve yet. Then, they did resolve the AC unit issue at my Hatcher house. It wasn't working. So, I called Home Shield and the guy came out and he said, "Oh, it's your blower fan." He ordered it and that took a couple days. Then, he came back and put it in. Then he said, "Oh, now it's your motor." So then, they ordered the motor, and another guy came out and put that in, and now it's working great. They were pleasurable. They're on top of it pretty much right away as soon as you call.
Then a dishwasher guy came out. I had two plumbing issues at my other house and it was the dishwasher that wasn't working. It was a very easy fix on that one. In fact, I felt a little silly. You're going to win some and lose some on that, but the dishwasher just happened to be the handle part that was messed up. The dishwasher guy fixed it. Then, I had a plumbing leak, and that was the one that we haven't been able to resolve yet, which is fine. Both experiences on both things went really good. I enjoy having Home Shield. It was great.

The claim was for a water heater. It just had this weird leak and overflow. So, I set up through Home Shield, they had Adam’s Water Heater come out. The tech came out the next day, looked at it, took him about five minutes, and said, “Yes, flowing in and you need a new water heater.” That one was bad because it was old. He left, Home Shield then called me and said that it was covered, but the additional work, which were our modifications, wasn't.
Apparently, the city code changed to where you needed to have a fresh air intake. That was my initial question. I didn't know that to be 100% because the one we had there didn't have a fresh air intake and it wasn't in an enclosed space. I questioned it but did some research, and Dale was right. He knew what he was talking about. It did need a fresh air intake. So, we got it replaced. He did an awesome job, cleaned everything up, and got it done fast. American Home Shield did a great job as well. It's a great service. I'm glad we had it. It saved us a lot of money.

I've had American Home Shield since my first home, which I purchased in 2007, and in each of the properties I move into, I would carry AHS over to the next property. But I would like to be able to talk to somebody who I can understand and who understands what I'm saying. Also, when I call and I'm having issues, I would like to have somebody call me back that can explain to me what's going on.
My toilets were running and the plumber called the same day that I called AHS. He was here by 2:00 that afternoon and he fixed the issues with no problem. But prior to this claim, I called AHS for my refrigerator and I had to wait two weeks to have it repaired so I lost a lot of food. Every time I called AHS back, I would get a rep who I could barely understand. Also, all they kept telling me is that nobody could come out. I'm not sure what type of refrigerator AHS thinks I have, but I have a regular refrigerator and any tech could have come out.

When filing a claim, I can do it on the app or on the website and it's relatively painless. Home Shield will give the number of the contractor and then I call the contractor. The contractor may not respond and that's annoying. I have to call Home Shield and force them to get somebody else. I've used them twice this year. One time was for a washing machine, the dryer. They had one person to cover my county, which I thought was ridiculous. It ended up getting fixed. Recently, we had a backed up pipe. The first time, Home Shield wanted to make me wait several days, and I wasn't gonna let that happen. I made them find me somebody to do it so it ended up shortening the time. United Air Temp came out and they just ran a very long snake. Home Shield needs to potentially expand their pool of contractors where I live.

They have some reps that are really helpful and they get you right to the person you want to speak to. But then they have some from another country that you can't understand what they are saying. American Home Shield needs to get English-speaking people. They're trying their best to speak English but it's their phone service. When they’re calling from another country, there is so much static or they kinda fade in and fade out and fade in and fade out.
The techs that they've sent out were courteous. They explained the problem to me and gave me the resolution and what I could do. When I had a claim for the washing machine, the tech came out twice. The first time he came out, he said the electrical circuit had blew out. I told him that it ran and that it came on with the extension cord. But he said that I was not getting enough power when I use an extension cord. He explained to me that he could not check it. He told me to get it fixed and then he would be right back. Once I had it fixed, he came right out, turned it on, and he told me what the problem was. American Home Shield is gonna replace it.

I'd usually call to have services done and sometimes it takes forever. But when I called, I made sure that whatever service call I was making was actually covered. I did a claim for the AC. It was making noises and when it was turned on, the house was very humid. When the technician arrived, he checked the unit and told me that it was better to replace it than to repair or to maintenance it. He showed me the packages that his company had on financing a new system and he left.
I also had Home Shield bring a company to check my electrical panel to see if they could either tell me what was wrong with it or how I could fix it. The company that came over said that there was nothing they could do unless I replace everything and they just left. When I called American Home Shield, I told them that the agent made sure that what I needed help with was actually covered. They said not to worry and that it was. They would talk to the electrician and the company that came over and they would let me know if I qualify to get a refund. They talked to the electrician and they got back to me. They said that what he went for was nothing for him to do about.
Also, my house was missing some outlets, and one thing wasn't working, and I asked American Home Shield about it and they said it was covered. The guy came and he looked at everything, then he said that none of that were covered. He could give me his card and I could call them for a rate for them to come and fix it. He told me not to pay for this with the warranty, just give them a call.
None of the stuff that I asked for was covered and I was told they were, so I was pretty upset. I ended up paying two deductibles for the AC and the electric panel for no reason. American Home Shield is a good warranty company. But people need to be very careful when making an appointment. They need to make double sure to AHS that it is actually covered because they will still get charged regardless.
Recently, the fridge was freezing the vegetables and fruits. Hotshot Appliance Repair told me that they had to seal all the doors apart. The guy came to put it in. He told me if the problem didn't go away, to give them a call because we have 30 days for the claim. He was very professional and nice. Now, I have to give them a call again because it's still freezing.

We're very satisfied with the service that we got. When our refrigerator was not cooling, the repair guy came out, looked at it, and cleaned the coils in the freezer part. The door in the refrigerator where the cold air comes out was not operating properly as well, so they ordered a new one, but they sent the wrong one. They had to reorder it again, and the wrong one came in again. They then reordered it again and the repair guy brought it out and replaced the old one. He was very professional and wore a mask or coverings over his shoes.

Our dishwasher's been a major problem, but anything the repair guy from Dan McCain could fix on site, he has fixed. He's done very well with it. However, I'd like him to have the parts on this truck, but it's never gonna happen. Every time he comes out, he has to order a part, which is normal, then it's waiting two weeks for the part. Other than that, it's just a matter of where you live as to how they ship the parts. Orville is where Dan McCain's out of and we're in Chico. It's a 20-minute drive between towns, so it takes a minute to get a part out of Sacramento, Stockton, Nevada or wherever.
American Home Shield could lower the price as well. It went up $100 over the 12-month period. It's an insurance program. If you've got brand new appliances, you're under the manufacturer warranty and whoever you're buying from. After that you're on your own. Sometimes, you're better off to put your money in your pocket and save it.

Typically, I just call in or do my claims online to American Home Shield. I get a technician started, I just pay the 125, and then I haven't had to do anything else. It's fairly easy. The only thing I don't like is when you're paying the 125, it doesn't really explain much other than you just paying the fee upfront. It would be really helpful for somebody that doesn't know how to do these things for a living to really kind of explain what you're paying for each time. It just seems like when you're making a claim, all they want is your $125, and then they'll get everything all started. I think it would be nice to be a little more clear.
A Good Connection came out for a fan motor in the bathroom. I tried to explain that to the person I spoke to on the phone. I don't know if she really understood English very well. I was trying to explain to her that it was a fan in the bathroom. The fan had gone out. The technician came over, he thought it was something else too. I showed him what it was. He was able to take the mount off, he was able to look at the motor, the motor could not be fixed, so he went to Home Depot and bought a new motor, and then reinstalled it. He was able to do it in just a couple of hours.
He was professional. The only thing was he didn't wear a mask. I wore a mask. I wouldn't throw the book at him for that because I wasn't in the room the whole time with him. But he just represents himself. I don't want him to lose business. He's a nice enough guy, but I don't know if he does that for his own personal or political reasons. But he knew what he was doing and he fixed my problem. That's all I care about.
Everything has been great. But it would be nice to be able to go online and be able to see what was done even after a conversation just so that for any type of insurance that they know that it just doesn't just say like electric or whatever because insurance covered is going to be like, "Well, what does that mean?" They might want more detail other than just having the technician and his name and the phone number on there. They might want more information.
I've used American Home Shield twice now, once for a small electrical problem next to my dishwasher, and then the most recent in my bathroom. I didn't have to fight with anybody when the electrician came over for the dishwasher. He said he would explain everything. He's worked with them before and he told me he's never had any problems with American Home Shield. Everything went smooth. I've not had too many problems. They've addressed my concerns regarding minor things here and there, which wouldn't keep me from recommending it or continue using it if I was staying.

American Home Shield has been really good. I was a real estate agent and I used to sell the program from American Home Shield too, along with my real estate. That was about ‘95 whenever American Home Shield kicked in and I started selling. And I've had it ever since. We had The Plumbing Company come out and they were good. They called me as I requested. I submitted the claim online and that was probably the easiest I ever did over the past 20 some years. Calling in doesn't work. Sometimes, you're on hold forever. But there are representatives that we can get a hold of. My sister is still with Real Estate, so she knows the people that deal with it locally, and they've been very good.
We had sub-zero weather and it was New Year's Eve. Then I realized my furnace was out because the house wasn’t warming. Around 5:00 or o’clock, I called American Home Shield. I was on hold for over three hours. I could not get through to them at all. By 9:30, my house was down to 50 degrees. So, I called my sister in Arizona and she called somebody that she knew that owned another heating and cooling company and they came right over at 10:30 and had me up and going, and warm.

We're happy with Happy Bear. It turned out okay even though they didn't do anything. I pointed out how the water was leaking and the guy told me that what I thought was a problem was not a problem and what was really wrong with something that just needed new ends on the faucets which I put in myself. The previous problem was a stove exhaust fan unit. I ended up hanging on the telephone for one hour waiting for somebody to get back to me but nobody ever did. I had to call again and again. I blamed it on covid but I was very annoyed. Even now, the pick-up is not perfect.
Finally, they did send somebody. They tried to fix it but they couldn't. They told me that I had to order in a unit on my own which I did and I paid for it. I had a realtor who had originally recommended American Home Shield. I told her how much trouble I was having getting ahold of them and she gave me a number to call. I got one of their senior management people who lives in Arizona. Once he got into the circle, he gave me a number that worked rather quickly. In the end, I was reimbursed for the $600 that I paid for the exhaust fan. It was installed by American Home Shield and they did a fine job.

The plumber who came out was knowledgeable and friendly and he had a nose and mouth covering. I felt safe, which is important when someone you don't know is coming into your house. The first time he came out was because my son flushed a toy down the toilet. The second time was because something in the back of a toilet wore down to the point where it needed to be replaced. During that visit, he looked at an additional toilet that had too much toilet paper in it, which he flushed out.
