Every time I call, American Home Shield sends somebody right out. But I have an appliance issue with my washer that the technician from Wilson's Appliance Repair couldn't fix. My washer is backflowing and he tried but he couldn't do any good because he said it's a plumber issue. He said the plumber would have to do it. The water on the refrigerator also wasn't pumping. It was just dripping like a tap. The technician thought that if he replaced a part back there, that would take care of it but it didn't. It was still doing the same thing. Then when my fiancé came home, he said it needed a filter. We called the technician up and he asked why I hadn't said anything. But he was trying. He was good. In fact, he did ask me when I got the refrigerator. I told him it was pretty much new. It was new but it needed a filter and neither one of us knew that. He probably wouldn't know this when I said it was just a year old but it was a year old from Sears and the warranty was out.
The water on the refrigerator is going really well now. But for the washer, I may have to call American Home Shield for a plumber because the appliance guy couldn't fix it. I just don't want to pay another $100 co-pay because right now, I don't have it. But when I submitted the claim over the phone before, I talked to a representative and she was very good. American Home Shield also reimbursed me $100 for another house that I had. The work costed me more but they said they were only gonna reimburse $100. I told them whatever I could get at the time was fine and the rep followed through with me. She was helpful. I recommend American Home Shield. As a matter of fact, I was gonna get my dad and my friend on it for their appliances.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

Just sent the plumber away. He made the decision that the repair would not be covered and gave me quote of over $1000.00. He wasn't even here 10 minutes. I had a hose bib leak. The plumber never even went under the house to see if the pressure regulator was broken, a covered part. He never checked to see if I had a pressure regulator.
We do apologize for the experience. We would like to advise that was not our intent to leave that impression. We hate that you have cancelled the contract, and will take this into consideration

I had AHS for over 5 years and their services was okay at the beginning and after few years started to get worse. I have few issues that I faced with them. First they take a long time to process a claim, so example it took them around 8 weeks to process my claim to replace my refrigerator. I had to purchase another refrigerator myself because I cannot live and my family without a refrigerator. So I winded with 2 refrigerators. The contractors that AHS send you to fix something at your house always try to sell you other services that you do not need. I cancelled my contract with AHS because I wanted them to replace my kitchen's faucet and they sent a plumber to fix it and he told me that it cannot be fixed, but if I want I purchase a $350 faucet from him right away and he can install it now.
I told him that the faucet is covered by AHS and he told me not to waste my time with them as it is not covered. I told him that I'll take my chances. He left and I called AHS and told them what the plumber told me and they told me that they have to wait for the plumber's report. I waited for 1 week and call them and they told me that they did not receive the plumbers report yet! I called them every other day for 1 month and the report did not show up. I requested a supervisor and I kept hearing the same professional canned responses and no one will help me. At the end they told me how about they send another plumber to evaluate the situation. I agreed, but no one showed up for another month, I called multiple times and they told me that they dispatched the plumber already and they even gave me the phone number for the company which I called and they told me they did not receive any request from AHS.
This game with AHS stayed for 3 months and I cannot get my main faucet for my kitchen was not working. I called them and told them that I already purchased a new faucet and I just need them to install it, and I do not want them to pay for it. Just get me a plumber and let him install it and they agreed and promised me to send a plumber to install it. The supervisor promised that and I told him if the plumber did not show this time within 1 week, I'll cancel my contract. Nobody showed up, and I called to cancel my contract, and they charged me $100 for breaking my contract even I did not use their services for around 1.5 years.
I got AHS in order for me to have peace of mind and I do not deal with many companies, and I spent at least 8 hours of my time talking over the phone with customer service without any progress. I have other friends that have AHS and they told me the same story. AHS is not doing a good job anymore. Don't waste your money on them.

The hot water stopped in my bathroom faucet. I called it in. I did the prompts first then I spoke with a live person from American Home Shield. All Valley Plumbing was sent out. That was their first visit there and I didn’t have an issue with them. But I’m still waiting on their return because there was a second claim that was put right after that claim and it's for a different faucet. I’ve had a lot of bad experiences with American Home Shield but right now, everything is looking okay.

The air wasn’t running. I turned it off ’cause it was like freezing up on the top part. The technician from Quick A/C Solutions came the next day and he got up there and it was working fine. Also, the outside handler was noisy and he might have tightened it. Now it sounded like it was doing a lot better and smoother. The guy put some Freon and he charged me $200 for that. Then I had to pay the $75 for the fee for him to come out and I thought everything was fine. Then all of a sudden, it just started making this grinding noise about 10 o’clock last night. I looked inside the handler and the fans had come off as it was spinning. As soon as it was grinding down, it just stopped. I went upstairs and turned the air off. Other than that, AHS has been very efficient. I've called several times and they’ve always come out in a very timely manner. Their website was great. I submitted the claim through the internet and they came fast.

My blower wasn't working and I wasn't getting any air or heat out. I went online to American Home Shield. Their website allows me to pick from repair companies that I can choose from. However, with this last claim, I had trouble 'cause no one services Propane tankless water heaters. Millennial HVAC came out though and had to order a part for my heater. It was covered under warranty so they had to wait until the following Monday and they got the part then. Previously, I’ve had issues with them as far as calling in and talking to somebody is concerned. They didn’t have supervisors available to escalate my concern to for more information. Other than this heater claim, everything else with AHS's vendors has been fine. Overall, AHS has done what they are supposed to do.

I had issues with my dishwasher and my washing machine. I had a little run-in with one of the managers because I asked her to send someone out that was certified in the particular appliance that I had. She said that they would send whoever they want to send. Instead of sending the Whirlpool specialist out, they sent someone from Shinmen Worldwide. He spent four hours on the washing machine trying to determine what the problem was and couldn’t fix it. They ended up sending the Whirlpool expert as I asked them to do from the start. He was here for 15 minutes and already determined what the problem was and fixed it quickly.
They sent the same company for my dishwasher. My husband was here when the technician came. He looked at it, plugged it up and ran it for two cycles. He said that he didn’t notice that there was a leak anywhere. When I came home from work, I went in the kitchen. I was excited because the dishwasher was working and it was like it was doing fine. But then I looked at the bottom of the dishwasher near the floor and I saw water. My son said to me that the water came from the trash bag that we had sitting there so I was like, “Okay,” and I went to bed.
Later that night, my son woke me up and said that we had water all over the kitchen. There was a puddle of water everywhere. My son grabbed towels, put it everywhere and sucked up the water. Now there are molds everywhere on the side of my cabinet where the water leaked. The whole board that's over at the bottom of my sink was sunken clean in. I haven’t pulled it up and I know there’s water all up under there. My son said not to pull that up because we’d be breathing molds.
Shinmen came out for the second time and the technician finally determined what was wrong with the dishwasher. He said it needed a valve, but he didn’t have it. They had to put the valve on order. The lady called me and wanted to schedule a time where the tech could come back out and put the valve. However we were going back and forth, ’cause I was at work and I would miss their call, and I would call them back, and then they wouldn't answer the phone. I called her back and she got the technician on the phone. The technician started talking to me any kind of way and said that I was gonna sue them. I told him that he never heard me say that. All I wanted was to have my dishwasher fixed and that this damage where the water was had to be repaired too.
At the end of the conversation, I did not feel comfortable with that technician coming back to my house. I told Shinmen that I'd call American Home Shield and get them to send someone else out because I wanna give their company a chance to fix the problem. I called them back to see if they had another technician that they could send out to my house and they said they only have one who services our area. I told them if that would be the case, I’d call American Home Shield and tell them to send another contractor out, which is what I did.
American Home Shield sent somebody out right away. The next contractor called me and we booked a date for them to come out. But the coronavirus hit so that changed everything. Right at this moment, I put them on hold, told the lady I would call her at a later date after I get my home insurance company out to see what they would do about the damage that the water has caused. Now, my dishwasher is still not fixed and I have molds. I’ve turned the water off of the dishwasher because I don’t want it to cause any more damage than what it already is.
I think what American Home Shield does is start at the bottom of the list with the contractors. They’re gonna send people out who has quoted them the least expensive contract. My sister-in-law also has AHS. When she had a leak in her upstairs bathroom, she called them. They sent a technician out and she thought everything was fixed. It ended up having water everywhere. It punctured a big hole in her wall and it damaged her house so badly that they had to move out of the house and had it renovated. The insurance company had to replace her appliances and her flooring as well. I think AHS also sent out someone to her who gave the lowest bid and the tech didn’t know what he was doing. In the end, it would cost AHS more money than having them send out an expert in the beginning.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I've just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

Now, we had the washing machine which he had to order a part but he came and did it, and that was good too. We've been with AHS for about 10 years. I’ve had Home Shield in the past. However, they should make the out-of-pocket expenses when something is getting repaired or replaced cheaper. One time, the contractor came out to work on the AC and they replaced stuff that they didn’t need to. It’s great that I wasn’t charged for it, but that was a charge that was sent to Home Shield versus me. They had no need to replace the thermostat when all it needed was something else done to it. That was really bad of them. And then this last time, they forced me to pay for something out-of-pocket, otherwise, they refused to do the installation. And they said it was for the city inspector. When the city inspector came out and inspected, I asked them and they said, “No, they didn’t need to do this.” It’s $250 out of my pocket and Home Shield said it’s an out-of-pocket expense. There’s nothing that they’re going to do. But other than that, my experience this time was as good as I could expect.

I submitted a claim to AHS because I had part of the house that there was no power. JC Electrical came out and within 20 minutes, they identified the problem and then resolved it in about 45. So, it was great. I was happy. The process to get it started is okay. In these times with the pandemic going around, there was a concern. First of all, I didn’t have power for part of the house and there was no way to get a priority put on it. AHS told me I could call the contractors. And so, I tried calling them but there was no answer. I didn’t even know if they were even open because of the way things were closing down. I had to wait two days before they came out. And it wasn’t their fault. They weren’t even open. But it would’ve been something that I would’ve been willing to pay more to get somebody to come out as an expedited service.
AHS is okay. Every time I use them, I'm always wondering, are they going to cover it? Are they not? Is there gonna be a fight to get them to do something? We’ve had issues before, like for the air conditioner and it took a while. I was without air conditioning for four days in 100-degree weather. But we’ve had good times, like when JC came out, everything worked perfectly.

I've been with Home Shield for about three years now and I’m happy with them so far that's why I've stayed with them. Their online service is excellent, I'm getting used to that. I sat two hours on the phone once and that wasn’t fun when I was first using it. Then, I found that I can communicate in a way with a computer and they would get back to me, so that was good. I’ve had them out here two or three times. I have an ongoing claim for my microwave. I hope they're gonna replace it because the company they sent keeps fooling with the same thing.

I'm pretty inclined when it comes to a lot of stuff and there's been some issues where I knew what needed to be done. I tried to explain that to AHS after waiting forever to get through to somebody. I've had to do a recall and I kinda knew what needed to be done, but then AHS sent somebody out and then didn't give them permission to do what I originally said the first place, so they had to send somebody else back out. They ended up fixing the problem which was what I originally said we needed to do. So it was kind of frustrating but stuff gets done.
When I had my emergency, AHS put me on this $400 expenditure thing, and I tried to find somebody myself to get somebody out here, but I couldn't get approval from them to get that person up here. AHS said that they would reimburse me after arguing with them for an hour, but I also didn't have the $400 it was gonna cost to get that person out here. I ended up just waiting and I tried to fix it myself. I temporarily got it working to where we could use it a little bit and just to give us time to wait for AHS to get somebody out here.

The icemaker went out. And we took it apart, but we couldn’t figure out what was wrong. And so, we went ahead and called AHS and paid the $120. I’ve had a lot of things going on. I’m 72 years old. I’ve got a son that has no liver, and we’re trying to get him a liver, and it’s a very complex process. I thought that the down payment of $120 was a little steep, especially on a person on a fixed income. But I went ahead and I paid it, and very quickly, I got ahold of the people that were going to fix it. And they gave me a very short time window in which it was down for about two days. The gentleman was very nice. He was very efficient, articulate and informative.
I was very disappointed to find out that the fix was very simple. There are seven wires that are connected to the bottom of the lower left, and that would be the freezer, and one of them had gone out. And it’s a very extremely poor design. I was extremely disappointed when the technician told me that KitchenAid is doing nothing to repair this simple problem. And I would imagine a lot of people are having this problem because the wires are at the bottom of the door of the freezer, and you open that door quite a lot during the lifetime of that refrigerator. And a simple fix would eliminate a lot of problems for a lot of people.
I have a savings account and I was fortunate to have an insurance policy that helped me pay off the house and get a new car when my husband passed away. But a lot of people don’t have $120 lying around to get their refrigerator repaired. I’d like to take the president of KitchenAid and throw him in a lake somewhere. It’s just the lack of caring on the part of the people at KitchenAid wanting to improve their product.

This is the third home warranty company we've had and Home Shield is better than all of them. But when you call in as a customer, the people that take the calls are in a call center overseas and they're not very good. They need to have better people that can answer questions. I was able to get a number for one of their reps that deals with the providers and whenever I had an issue or wasn't getting answers, I would call the rep and they would always get mad and ask how I got their number. It doesn't matter how I got it though. The fact is, they need to update. Otherwise, it’s really easy to make a claim online.
I had a claim for the thermostat and it turned out awesome. They fixed it and showed us how to use it. It was simple, easy and they were great. We also had our hot water heater taken care of. They didn't have anybody that works on on-demand hot water heaters so we had to get it replaced which was 4,800. They reimbursed us 1,500 which would be the highest end of a normal water heater and it was fair since they didn't have anybody. They also waived our $100 fee. Getting the reimbursement was a little bit difficult and it took them a while but otherwise, everything had been great.

For the first time, my refrigerator ice machine stopped working and then only a couple of my stovetop burners were working. Big Kountry Appliance Repair came on time and ordered the parts that it needed. The parts came in and they fixed it. Very professional guys, good work. I had to call them back because the water froze up in my water dispenser part of the ice machine. They came back and fixed it right up.
However, every time that I talked to somebody, about 80% of the phone callers who answered rarely speak frequent English and they were very hard to understand. Like the one time that I called and asked for my payments statement, they put me on hold for 20 or 30 minutes each and then all of a sudden hangs up on me. It was very frustrating. On my last call, I talked to some lady and it didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. They said they would send it but I haven't got it yet. Other than that, it's been fine. The claim process is pretty easy. When it comes to something like for a service for a claim, American Home Shield is very frequent. They ask me what's wrong with the appliance and what brand name it is then they tell me who's gonna come fix and look at it.

I put in a warranty claim with AHS for the pool pump. The company, Pools Unlimited, came out within four days of me putting the claim in. It was issued right out the same day. He came out here and saw that the pump was no good. He called American Home Shield and they replaced it without questions. He left me one that day. So, it was quick, easy and painless.
When I called back this week because we realized also that our saltwater system wasn’t working, I didn’t realize that the saltwater system wasn’t covered. I spoke with Diana with American Home Shield. I told her that it would be a salt system and that the company that typically was dispatched doesn’t sell that system, and if we could use that money towards a system that he sold. And she said that he would just need to submit his cost for it.
I went online that same day within an hour and put in the ticket. Pools Unlimited, the very next day, called in the claim and I was informed that they don’t cover the salt system. And I'm totally okay with that. The only thing is I wish that the lady had let me know upfront that saltwater systems are not covered instead of having to go through all of that. But they did not charge me for that second call. So, overall, I'm pleased. I just wish that there had been better communication when I was on the phone with her. I needed to have a rekey done. Through the Home Shield, I was told that even though I paid, I couldn’t do anything. I had to call my Realtor and told her that I was told me I could get my home rekeyed. She took care of it for me then someone called me. She said that was not the way that it was supposed to go. They were supposed to allow me to get my key since I already had my contract number and everything. She actually did that process for me. Someone from Ed’s Lock and Key came and everything went perfectly. The tech called ahead of time and was on time. He was very friendly and explained what he was gonna do and why he was doing it. We went over what keys and locks needed to be done. He went over it again. I was very happy pleased with his work.
The only thing with Home Shield is if we have a contract and it’s paid at closing, they should be prepared. I didn’t wanna wait too long to get my home rekeyed and I did it a couple of days after closing. I think that should be something that should be done immediately or they should say in the contract, “Right away, you can within 48 hours or within 24 hours or 12 hours. You can go on and get your home rekeyed. That’s part of the process.” It's because you wanna feel safe and closing is already a big headache as it is. And to have that comfort to have someone come out, do the rekey of your home and tell you what you're gonna get after you close, will be perfect.

I have several issues in this house and Home Shield doesn’t give me the runaround. If I got a problem, they get the $100 and send somebody out to fix it. They sent one electrician here and he was horrible. I had some problems with my fan. The remote control went bad and he called to make sure that my home warranty is still in effect in front of me on speakerphone. That was so freaking disrespectful. Other than that, all the rest of the contractors were okay.
Anytime Home Services sent somebody out first in December for a plumbing issue. But the leaking issue caused all kinds of problems in the house and I called my insurance company and they had to rebuild the bathroom and everything else. Then, the leaking issue continued after everything was rebuilt so I called them again. The young man replaced a part that needed to be replaced and showed me the old parts and what was causing all the issues. I called his company how he was so great and has amazing customer service. He fixed that thing in 10 minutes and I’ve been dealing with that for four months.

It got cold for half a day and then during the end of the day, the air conditioning was getting warm. I called American Home Shield and they sent somebody out to take a look at it. Then, they sent a second person out to look at it. It took a couple of weeks, but it was during the coolest part of the year so it didn't really matter to us. The company they sent out was a good company. They were very respectful, didn't hesitate to anything, and kept us up to date on everything. They were able to fix it, although it took a while because the guy said it takes a long time to get the part to Hawaii. When the technician from KNS Plumbing came in, with this coronavirus going around, we had a conversation about debt. We also had a conversation about him and his wife getting ready to have a baby. I was there while he was working and he was very nice and polite, and he did everything in a timely manner. The warranty is a little costly. We have a backup system. When it vibrates, the original pump turns and it gets hooked up and then it stops working. It will go to the secondary. When the secondary kicks off, it pumps up right at the house instead of going away from the house. We had On Time Plumbing & Heating come out the first time. The guy saw it and he moved it slightly and it was fine.
Then the motor moved and we had to call AHS back and have them come back out. There was a slight language issue with the lady that my husband talked to ‘cause I heard he kept telling her how to spell his name over and over. My husband said she had a very strong accent. She said she would put the work order back in for the company to come back out and that we would get an email confirmation about this appointment. We never got the email so my husband called AHS back again to reestablish the work order. As soon as the phone call was hanged up, there was the text message saying that On Time Plumbing & Heating would be calling to come back and fix it. Other than the communication problem with the lady, we had no issues. I was happy that when I was re-upping my service, AHS gave a discount. This is our second year with them. I love their service and I will recommend it to anybody.

Last Saturday, we turned on the stove and immediately smelled gas. So, we called our gas provider Atmos out and when they came, they said that they were essential workers and they couldn't go inside our house. The tech said he had to turn off all of the gas to our house. I asked what we were supposed to do about hot water and he told me to call a plumber who will be able to come out and diagnose everything.
I called my home warranty and they said that they would send a plumber out and it was gonna be 75 bucks. The plumber got out here but said he couldn't do anything without gas. So he asked if I had any toilets that he could fix. I had plenty of toilets so he fixed a couple of them and said he couldn't do anything about the stove. I was told to get an appliance guy.
I called AHS and they sent out an appliance guy who said that he couldn't do anything without the gas on. My stove is one that whenever I turn it on, it goes "click, click, click, click," then it tries to spark. He said that this type of stove is always gonna have this issue and it was unsafe. It needs to be replaced by one of those that has the coil at the bottom that turns up high. He said that he's gonna ask AHS to replace the stove, but more than likely, they were gonna tell me to replace the part.
I called AHS and they said that they ordered a part and that the guy was gonna replace it for us. But this guy told me that he couldn't do anything without the gas on. Then I had to call Atmos. In the meantime, we were gonna send out another plumber to do a pressure test. I asked them if I had to pay because it was all related to the same thing. AHS said I still gotta pay the service fee. So at this point, I'm $225 down and I and my kids are cold. I'm having to give my kids cold baths and they're screaming and crying. I can't eat without my food being microwaved. So I'm pissed off. But I thought I was gonna do what AHS was saying. But they don't know that I'm a litigation adjuster and I have a lot of experience with attorneys.
The third plumber comes out and he was super great and very honest. He told me not to trust AHS and Atmos. Now I know I'm not crazy because someone else was telling me all these people are just lying and they're being greedy. He said he could do a pressure test without the gas on and he could tell if it was leaking. However, it was gonna be $450. Here I am spending $450 because AHS is saying it's not specific on my policy that they'll pay for that so it's excluded. I told them that the policy literally says it's up for interpretation. But then I paid for it. The plumber said there was no leak whatsoever however, he couldn't touch this water heater because AHS was saying he couldn't touch it without gas.
I called Atmos and asked if they were gonna send someone. Then they said they couldn't send anyone out because my husband, who is a police officer, was exposed potentially. But my husband already got tested and the test came back negative. But still, they said they couldn't come. I posted on Nextdoor and I called WFAA and then the local news. Within three hours, I got a call from a director from Atmos who said it was a miscommunication. They said they were gonna send someone out but someone had to be out there who is capable of being inside and making sure that it was just the stove.
Then an HVAC specialist and a mechanic from Nextdoor said he could help. I told him to give me an invoice so I could send it to AHS but then he didn't charge me one dime. He came in here, made sure we had heat and hot water. He also said that he couldn't do anything about the stove because it needed to be replaced. At this point, AHS is failing me and there was a breach of contract 100%. They were just sucking up all my money and not wanting to help me. I asked them to send me a copy of the denial but they never sent it.
This morning, the third plumber comes back out and said he came to give me my inspection so that the city can look at our stuff. But on the website, they're saying that they're not doing any more inspections. He said, "Wait, no one told us any of this. The office has to call you so you can relay this information because if the city's not doing an inspection, then what are we doing and why did you guys pay us 450 bucks?" Not even 20 minutes later, the city rolls up and does an inspection. The guy said that everything that AHS and Atmos have done is 100% illegal. So, our house is unsafe now and we still don't have a stove. AHS keeps charging me for these people that don't know what they're doing. All they had to do was trust the appliance guy when he said that the stove needed to be replaced.
Now, I have to get AHS to give me a new stove or I need to find a way to buy a new stove. My warranty with them was $550 alone. I called them two days ago and told them what was gonna happen if I didn't get my way. They said they were submitting a request for a replacement and that someone would give me a call within 24 hours. 48 hours later, they're still not doing their job. We have warm water now so everyone took a warm bath yesterday. But we can't cook anything on the stove.

The guy from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas that came out was really nice and knowledgeable. He told me a little bit about my air conditioner and why it’s being loud. He said there wasn’t anything I could do to fix it besides replacing it. But he said it looked like my unit had been damaged by a dog peeing on it from the previous people who lived here, so American Home Shield probably wouldn’t cover it.

Had an issue with my air condition. Dispatched Piedmont Mechanical Contractors Inc. who came out and diagnosed issue as a bad evaporator coil. Also noticed "code required upgrades" that were needed, which aren't covered by AHS. Rejected by AHS authorization department, directly contacted by Piedmont Mechanical to get authorization to proceed. Technician came out and I asked what were the code required upgrades - replacement of a bad float switch for the condensate pan ($250 charge), mastic applied over the duct tape seal ($250).
First time in my many years of being an AHS client where I felt that the dispatched company was looking to increase their revenues/take advantage of me as a client. When I had the same issue with my other unit 4 years ago, didn't have these additional charges. AHS customer support and retention departments just repeat that they don't control costs of code required upgrades, but don't know the codes/put all the responsibility on the client. Fair enough - not the quality of product that I've been receiving in the past, wouldn't recommend AHS to anyone else.

I think American Home Shield has a local rep who actually looks on all the calls. They have somebody from the company overseeing if the contractors or if anybody has a problem. Our faucet was leaking and I was surprised Cal Home Construction came the same day. I called in the morning and by afternoon the guy came. He had all the spare parts, replacements, all that ready. The guy had the exact faucet and replaced it that same visit. I'm very impressed.
Maybe American Home Shield's online system can ask for more details, like a model or part number. If I have say a problem with my faucet, I could tell them exactly what faucet, model, or whatever extra I can give info about so they can send it to the contractor who will know exactly what to bring on the first call. That could save a lot of time for almost all future calls. Suppose my air conditioner is not working. I could tell them the brand or model number of the air conditioner so when they come, they can bring something with them. That makes sense. There should be a second or third level of form that people can fill online. That can save trouble for everybody.

American Home Shield works and we've had it for many years. The only thing is the fee went up but the company doesn't cover as much as they used to. Before, they used to cover the entire amount before. But if I need something right now, they only cover this and give me that. I would have to pay for the rest of it. The policy didn’t use to be like that. I understand if the amount is astronomical but if it’s something that costs $1,200 and they tell you they're only gonna you $700, why do I have insurance if I still have to meet this gap?
I don’t like that you are paying to the insurance of having this and you pay for years and may not need anything but when you need it, it’s way less than what you’ve already paid into the policy. You assume that something is covered but when you get there it’s like you have to come up with 500. And then I’m like, “I can’t even get it done right now because I don’t have the 500.” Other than that, the policy is fine. I filed a claim for my dryer which wasn't drying and American Home Shield sent out Premier Appliance. The technician fixed the dryer on the same day and it's working now.

So, I called them back to ask them what the problem was and who was supposed to do the stove and my refrigerator. The lady I spoke with told me that it was Sears, and she said she would get in touch with Sears because it was a mistake on their end. I still have not gotten my stove and my dishwasher checked. But they took their money out the next day when I put in the order. They take their money out really fast, but it has been two weeks now and I have not heard anything.

There was some safety switch and the switch takes some things and so he terminated the power. I was really disappointed in the communication with AHS. I called and told them the appointment was for a toilet that was overflowing, and a shower. They said they would be out in four days. There was sewage and we had to evacuate the house so, we got someone else. I called back and asked if they could change my $100 payment to the refrigerator because it started leaking as well. I don't like that they actually sent me several threatening emails saying that they were about to stop my account and I was $100 behind. I finally called in and the guy said that they didn’t put down that it was changed from the plumbing to the refrigerator, which was disappointing. I considered changing from AHS because of that. And there are other companies that offer roof. I’ve had to have the roof fixed on a few occasions so I considered having the roof just in case it goes bad again.

And the appliances have been working fine since the service. We’ve been very pleased with AHS, too. We’ve had several things done and each time, the techs have been very professional and they knew exactly what they were doing. Then, there was one claim for a faucet where the techs came back and fixed something that was kind of above and beyond their responsibility. It was an adjustment on the stopper, so it didn't relate to the faucet, but it did relate to its operation. And they fulfilled it.

I had done some research when we were looking into buying a house and American Home Shield seemed to offer the most coverage for the price. When I submitted a claim, I did it over the phone because I never know with the warranty if I'm clicking boxes. Pop-A-Lock of Texas came for rekeying and it was short, sweet and simple. We didn't have any problems. The guy had everything he needed and it took him half an hour.
I called AHS yesterday for a different claim that we had done and it's hard to get a copy of receipts for any of the work that was done. If you go in the account, it'll show you the claim and it’ll say, “Closed.” In a separate tab, it'll show you how much you paid but on any chance that you had to actually print out a, "I did this, I paid this fee, it was completed, here you go," for record-keeping or insurance, that's impossible to do online. I called and the poor lady I was talking to said that they don't give receipts and there's no way to do that, which is the only thing that I was a little frustrated about.
Most of the time, it's not an issue but we had another claim that involved our homeowner's insurance. It has nothing to do with the rekey, but our homeowner's insurance was asking for a copy of a receipt from the repair that the warranty company had done, and I didn't have one. I had to call the plumber directly and get a copy from them. You can't get a receipt for anything from the website.

He ordered a part to fix it and then he broke the handle and he couldn't fix it. When he came back out, which was three weeks later, he cut a huge hole in our wall. The hole in my wall is about a foot and a half by two feet in the bathroom. It's where the pipes are so they could cap them off. They didn't send him back out. They said they fired him. There was a time when my heater wouldn't come on. I contacted American Home Shield and they set me up with Miller Pools. Their tech, Matt was very courteous and he showed up when he said he would. Miller Pools got my heater working but then they also had to order a part. When that part came, they called to schedule to come again and put it in.
A couple of days after they came out and put the part in, I noticed that when the pool was just running its program, the heater was coming on. I would turn the temperature off as well as the heater, but the heater still kept coming on. I called Miller up and told them that I couldn't get the heater to not come on when the pool runs its service. I didn't want to run my heater for two and a half hours every day. Miller made another appointment and came back out. They reset something and now the heater won't come on unless I ask it to. Miller Pools went above and beyond expectations.

There was a time when my ice maker stopped working and my refrigerator was leaking. I had two different companies come out on behalf of American Home Shield. The first one came quickly but then there was a follow-up service call with them because my problems continued to occur. That took a while and my problems were never resolved. I called AHS and told them to send somebody else. They did and the second company got my issue fixed. They were prompt too. They had to come out three times to finish the job because there were more issues than they expected. Even so, everything is now in great working order. I love having Home Shield as my home warranty provider. I have a second home that I'm planning to add to my coverage as soon as I can. When the contract I have expires, I plan on re-upping with AHS.

National Platinum Service was fantastic. The ice maker went out on our refrigerator and I called Home Shield. The guy knew he had to order a part and when he came, he fixed it the same day. The guy came in after five days and with the virus thing going around, I expected that. Still, he was on time and he was very professional. He had a mask on and made sure he was completely covered. Now, the unit is working great. My daughter had coverage as well and she kept telling me how nice it was that she just called them and they took care of the issue. I got it just in case and I've had them for three years. If something was to happen, I know that they would be there to help and take care of it. I'm not worried about the unknown. Whenever I call AHS and they give me the company that’s coming out to fix it, I call them right away. I like to talk to the person that’s coming out here because I inform them what’s going on. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t because just telling them what’s going wrong doesn’t give them the answer. In the past if they come out and they find a part that they don’t have, they have to come back the next day. When I called for the fridge he said it is iced up and that I have to empty the fridge out, unplug it overnight.
By doing that he saved me a day of going without a fridge because when he came the next day, it was thawed out. He kinda got the idea and picked up a couple of parts that he thought was gonna take him to fix it, and he replaced the part. He got it running within about 45 minutes and had my stuff back into the fridge within an hour after that. He did really good. I probably would have been ahead on money had I not gotten Home Shield warranty, but I certainly wouldn't have peace of mind. Having Home Shield is worth it except that we got to keep the prices down. My price has been going up every year. Hopefully, we can freeze it at that point for a little while.

My experience here, living in Atlanta, has been good. When I call, someone is usually out within 24 hours. I had some plumbing work done and I really like that service that I had done simply because the company that came out almost had a rolling warehouse. So they pretty much had everything they needed. That was a plus for me. I didn’t have to wait until days later to have a part ordered. I’ve had some services done and I’ve had to have parts ordered. So that means I had to wait and be without the appliance or whatever it is that I needed. So it would be a good suggestion to have more product available when the customer calls.
My claim with Extreme Heating & Air went well too. The tech was very professional. He came in a timely manner and he let me know me when he was on his way. He came out, assessed the problem, did what he needed to do and went on his way. I've had American Home Shield for a couple of years now and I’ll keep it. Actually, I’m in the process of moving so I will transfer it to where I’m going. Having a warranty is important.

Submitting a claim online to AHS was very simple. The next morning, I got a phone call from the contractor and set up an appointment. There were two different issues. It ended up there was an outlet bad in one of the bedrooms, which caused that room and the hallway not to have electricity. And I put in a new ground fault switch on the deck and it was a faulty switch that I had put in. And therefore, that was causing the other issues. But the technicians found it and all's good.
TotalTech Electric was fantastic. They were exactly on time and did a great job. They were clean, professional and friendly. The man was very thorough. He checked all sorts of wiring issues up in the attic, the breaker box. And he had the electronic equipment to trace the lines. He ended up just started taking different outlets out of the walls to see if that was the problem, and that's how he eventually found it. I really was very happy with them. I'm very satisfied with AHS as well, especially after the troubles I've had getting my furnace fixed this winter. American Home Shield redeemed themselves.

AHS is good but they need to increase the number of contractor options. When I speak to some of these contractors, I find out that they are on a set fee rather than on a cost reimbursement so whenever they repair or they don't repair, they get the same fee. Some of the contractors don't agree on having a set fee. They don't end up staying or they end up moving to different areas. Also, some of these contractors are not honest.
I have a specific situation where I had a problem with my water regulating. The contractor that they sent me were a bunch of crooks. I called the lady and I told her the guy had no intention of coming down from the car. He briefly came and then somebody came after him. He just looked and he never turned in any paperwork. He told me that the pressure from the city is high and that was why my water regulator was busted. I asked him where his pressure gauge was and he didn't have it. I asked him how he knew the pressure from the city was high and he couldn't answer the question.
I also had a couple of other issues inside the house where there was a leaky valve. He said he would do it later. He didn't even wanna go in and see it. He walks away and writes a bunch of lies to his boss, which in this case is the insurance company. I was about to write to the department of insurance to report this cause because this was wrong. If somebody cannot ask the right questions and they get this response and the insurance company goes along with it, it is cheating. They should fire the first company that they sent me. They're a very bad company.
I complained and AHS waived my $75. I didn’t pay a second $75. They sent me another company and they were a lot better. The guy had to get authorization, he diagnosed the problem and he had to come back two days later, which was understandable. When you call a plumber, he doesn't have what you need. He doesn't know exactly what the problem is until he comes. Then he came back and took care of the problem.
I also have a claim on my refrigerator and I have been waiting since February. The company that AHS sent is smart and they knew what they were doing. But they're not in a rush. Today is April 15 and the refrigerator is still not fixed. I'm waiting for the tech to come tomorrow because he has to order a part. Luckily, I have another fridge in the garage so I'm able to use that. The company is okay but their service is turtle-pace. I know AHS talked to them and then the contractor gave them the runaround and then they tell me to wait. They need to get a better contract with them and an understanding that they need to take care of the problem efficiently, not forever.
The third issue I have is the option of pool companies. They have three companies in our area and I have researched all three. One of them has a very limited ability to do work. They don't know how to diagnose. The lady's husband was running the work and he passed away so she's carrying on. She's not a pool lady herself but she has technicians. She managed to pull it together and managed to continue doing the work. When she sends somebody, he's not really the top-notch people. They're just employees and that is not good. Then the other two companies are very bad. I asked about them and they said, "Stay away from 100 miles". AHS needs to increase the pool companies in our area. They need to bring people from other areas.
I had to fight and argue for everything. It's not Home Shield though. It's the company that they're using. They need to manage them better. AHS is a referral from friends of mine and they tell me that it just depends on my luck. Sometimes, I'm gonna have good companies who come out. I'm crossing my fingers tomorrow for the refrigerator to be taken care of and that I can put some meat in the freezer.

My mom's friend just bought a new house and I recommended AHS. I've used them several times to repair things around my house. About a year and a half ago, my water heater went out in the winter and whenever the repairmen came, they would say that part of the thing that was wrong is that the heater wasn't installed correctly and that they didn't even know if my issue would be covered. AHS covered it and it saved thousands of dollars. They also cover little things like clogs and leaks that can completely derail things and mess up my budget.
For my heating and cooling recent claim, Aerotech came out and their guys got someone out very quickly. When they got to my location though, they didn't have the parts that they needed. But they took the time to come back after the hours that they would usually work. They got my issue fixed and they were really nice. And with the virus stuff going on, they wore little booties too. It was a really good experience.

When I called AHS, they corrected it and then they just made the appointment while I had them on the phone. The second claim, I did online and both were easy. One of my claims was for a leak behind a toilet and the other was the kitchen drain. Both were handled quickly and we’re very satisfied with our service. The contractors were both very nice and professional. The kitchen issue requires a follow-up with a part but they're supposed to get back to us about that.

Home Guard is coming out today. I talked to American Home Shield yesterday because they closed the claim by accident because apparently there were two customers with the same first name. The rep probably spelled my name wrong in their file too. But other than that, the claim went pretty good. They've been really quick to respond. Both times, the contractor came out the same day, with exception to this latest part of the follow-up, which they had to wait for a part. I'm working from home, so the timeframe worked out really well. On the second time though, they came like three hours early, which was great because I was here. But if I had not been here, it probably would not have worked out so well because they didn't call ahead.
So far, I have no complaints with American Home Shield. The monthly cost for it is not too bad, and so far they've been able to fix everything. I haven't gotten bills for anything that's not covered. I was pretty happy too that they were able to reopen the claim after it had been closed. Also, the process of submitting a claim with them was super easy. I did it at 2:00 in the morning the day the furnace went out, so I was half asleep, but it was only about four questions, so it was pretty smooth.

My claim went real well. The contractor came out the first time and found that the issue was a circuit board and possibly something else that was connected with it, but they had to order the part. It took about two weeks to get the part back. They came out the second time and he replaced the circuit board. Once he put the circuit board back in, he said the other part didn't look right and it didn't sound right, so he replaced that other part as well. He did a wonderful job. He was a really, really nice person. He put his boots on before he walked in the house and cleaned up after himself. The clean-up was good. I’m glad I had the ability to have this done for not as much as it could’ve cost me.
I always bought my appliance through Sears and I always got the warranty because I swore that it was always worthwhile. You may not use it, but it only takes once, and this was one of these cases. I like that you can call American Home Shield up and they get somebody on it right away, and they’ll give you a call and say when they're coming out. With everything that’s going on nowadays, they really work quickly. I don’t mind making that payment every single month. I’m very satisfied.

My hot water heater started leaking a little bit and the water fluctuated pretty bad in the house. So, J&K came out and looked at it and decided it needed to be replaced. The replacement process with American Home Shield was pretty seamless. It was the first time I used them online, and it was pretty quick and efficient. I was surprised. Also, luckily, the hot water heater was covered, and it was kinda nice not to pay that extra expense.
I've been with American Home Shield on and off for over 10 years. We had them when we lived in another state for a while, and since we've been living in Minnesota, we've had them for at least eight years up here. When somebody comes out, I would think that the flat fee they charge would go towards the unit getting fixed because we had to pay the difference for the actual service because there had to be some upgrades for codes which I understand, but it would be nice if that service would go towards the actual labor rate. Other than that, with AHS, I know what's covered in our house.

I had a leak under my kitchen sink and it was associated with the kitchen faucet. I went online and set up the claim with American Home Shield. Instantly, I got the number of Ray Stovall Plumbing. I called them because of the current situation with everybody and the pandemic, trying to schedule them now. I believe when we initially scheduled it, I may have been working still in the office. Now, I've been home working. They had been backed up a little bit. I talked with their scheduler and she assured me that they would come out on that Friday that I requested. I work Monday through Thursday and I can't stick around for four hours waiting for somebody to show up. They came out on Friday, did the initial repair and said, "We've got the leak stopped but we need some replacement parts. Just call us when they came in." They worked with the manufacturer to make the necessary repair and had ordered a few miscellaneous parts from Kohler.
When the parts showed up, I called and said, "Just come whenever you can 'cause I'm working from home." It worked out pretty good. They replaced the hose and something else. I'm not sure if it was the valve body, but they ordered the supply of parts based on the manufacturer's recommendations, came out here and fixed it.
American Home Shield did a great job. Their contractor was really upfront with me, and they didn't spend a whole lot of time here in excess. They weren't chatty while working. They were very respectful of my time, and they were safe. They came in with their gloves and shoe covers on. They've been doing it probably for a while, I guess. They knew exactly what needed to be done and I was pretty satisfied with these guys. I'm ready to make another work for AHS, for an electrician. I've got a power problem here that I can't get resolved. I'm gonna set it up with them probably today or tomorrow.
I've worked with Sears. They sent a contractor to fix one of the water valves on the bathtub, and they were less than ethical. They charged me a whole bunch of money. What happened was, I was flushing my bathtub and when I opened up the valve, it stuck. When I went to close the valve, it was very hard, then it broke. It was nothing that anybody would have done normally to try to shut the water off, and so I explained that to the tech. He wrote up what they needed to do, but then he turned around and told Sears that I was destructive. I will never let that contractor come to my house ever again. When I did a name search for the contractor, they had a poor reputation. A lot of people were very dissatisfied with them. I told Sears either they'd make it right or I'm gonna go find somebody else. So here I am with AHS.

From my first call, it was about four weeks till I got someone to call. I had to call again. AHS didn't have someone in the local area at first listed and I was all right with that. So I called in and as soon as I let them know that nobody had come to the house, the rep immediately was very helpful and apologetic. She did her best to accommodate me. So once they realized it was a problem, they were right on it. The claim takes quite a while since I live in Navajo Dam, so I’m 33 miles from downtown Farmington and I’m right on the 30 miles from the borderline from Colorado. They don't have a lot of people listed to come work and repair. But I hope they maintain Quality Appliance because they can come here.
I had another issue with a oven a couple of years ago and we played phone tag for quite a while with the contractor. They were out of Durango. But eventually, they did show up. I’m pleased with that type of service. AHS just needs to make sure that the contractors are available or they need to follow up to verify that the contractors has responded. Because maybe the contractor is out or they’re overwhelmed.

The American Home Shield website is straightforward and submitting a claim is easy. What I do is submit the problem and request the service call. It usually comes back and says, “Your request has been assigned to a specific vendor and they will be getting in touch with you.” Then the vendor calls me and they set up an appointment. They would contact me within the same day of submitting the claim. That’s relatively quick.
My last two claims were on a garage door opener and I had two different companies. The last company that I had, #1 Garage Door, was phenomenal. The garage door opener inside the house failed. The tech’s name was Ronnie and he was outstanding. Not only was he professional, but he was very thorough and neat on how he put things together. If I had that kind of experience all the time, I’d be extremely satisfied.
I've had one contractor that was very slow in responding, and that was a while ago when I had a problem with my HVAC. There was something wrong with the circuit board of the air handler, the motor itself, and the fan just kept running. It wouldn’t shut off. The technician that they sent out reeked of cigarette smoke. When he diagnosed the problem and came down from the unit, he didn’t write down the serial number, the model number, or anything. He had to go back up there, undo everything so he could write down all that stuff so he could order the parts. I was very dissatisfied with his professionalism. He was young and inexperienced. I wouldn’t want that guy representing my company.” But the next guy that came to the house was a complete opposite. Extremely professional and did a really nice job putting everything back together and setting up the unit.

I'm not here often enough to be able to call and try to get somebody here. I’ve had plumbing issues, and the people AHS sent out were not competent. The tech misdiagnosed it and I had to hire people on my own to get them resolved. I wasn’t happy with that. Another time that I’ve called, they sent somebody that fixed the refrigerator. He did a real good job. The guy they sent out to fix the pool also did a very good job. ABNation was extremely responsive. I was very happy with them.
AHS sends out whoever they get first. It’s part of the arrangement. The coverage is adequate and if I’m lucky enough to get a reasonable contractor who knows what they're doing, the outcome is going to be fine. What I’ve learned is that anything complicated or anything that requires a better level of expertise is generally beyond the scope of the people they’ve engaged with.
Read the policy carefully. I think a lot of people just look at the advertisement. On the surface, it certainly makes sense but you better understand what you’re paying for. It’s a lengthy contract, so you really need to go through it line by line by line and try to figure out if it’s appropriate for you. Understand what is covered and what is not. With my plumbing problem in particular, there was a leak in the shower pan and unless you read the policy very carefully, you’ll notice that that particular piece of equipment is not covered.

We had two leaky sink faucets and the plumber guy determined that they were not fixable so then they replaced them. Scheduling was different because of the stay at home orders. But they were very professional, did a great job and got everything fixed. It was really nice that they did well. We’re back up to normal.

My garbage disposal was totally stopped up. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and on their site, I could quickly type in what my issue is. I quickly got an email saying that AHS has scheduled my claim with a contractor and they gave me a way to contact them. Hoosier Plumbing & Heating came and took my garbage disposal. They emptied it out and it was no big deal.
Another time, my dryer had a problem and AHS's contractor came. The dryer needed to be maintained but I don't have AHS's coverage that has maintenance as part of it. This time, AHS paid for the part that needed to be replaced. Paying $50 a month and $125 for a service call seems a little high. Still, that's probably due to the plan I chose.

The dishwasher just wouldn't cycle. Turned it on, and in the middle of the cycle, it quit. It just was full of water and that's it. I called Home Shield, and nine times out of 10, when I have an electrical-type issue, like a refrigerator, a dishwasher kind of an appliance thing, Big Bill's usually is the one that comes. I just call American Home Shield and say, "Assign me somebody."
What happens is Home Shield contacts Big Bill's, Big Bill's then sends me a text and says they will contact me within the next 24 hours. Usually, I hear from them or whoever it was in the next 24 hours. And then, they would give me a date and a time. And at that time, for whatever reason, they were backed up big time. I went a week or two without my dishwasher because it was right in the beginning of the COVID-19 thing. It took at least 10 to 12 days for them to get there. The rep told me though that it was gonna take that long. And I was like, "Okay, whatever." What could I do? But that company, Big Bill's, it's a lady that comes and she's really nice. And most of the time, she comes, fixes the issue, and she's on her way. If I didn't have a warranty company, I would call them. I have their magnet up on my refrigerator. I've been pleased with the service and they're very courteous.
The warranty saved my butt so I like the whole premise of the warranty. However, from a customer service standpoint, Home Shield is not very good. From customer service, you had to stay on the phone forever before you get somebody to actually call. Me and my wife just go online now and put in a call online. If you called up there because you owe them money, they would answer the phone within two seconds. But if you are waiting on service, it would take forever.

I’m going on five years at this house, but I’ve had American Home Shield in the last 20 years and they’ve always been good. They should add a comment box to their website though so you could explain the problem a little more. You have to choose what area you’re fixing and that’s it. You can’t leave them any additional information. Still, it’s a good idea to have them. I highly recommend it.

It's pretty easy to file the claim but you get the problem with American Home Shield with getting the authorization when the people show up. I’ve had a claim and it worked fine. The kid fixed it. He was out of here and I didn’t even need to call him back. But when I had my refrigerator fixed, there was some kind of snafu. The refrigerator repair said they were waiting on the authorization from American Home Shield to order the part. I called American Home Shield and they said they did it on that day. But the people said they didn’t get it. It took a week to get my refrigerator repaired.
They really sock it to you on air condition repairs. They made me change my air conditioning to a different kind of Freon, but now, they only pay for one pound of Freon. My unit takes about 15 pounds of Freon. When these vendors that work for them come out, you don’t have a clue what they’re doing, but then you get stuck with a bill for 10 pounds of Freon and it’s $40 a pound.

I’ve been having AC problems for the past few years and every time I have it done the summertime, Myers Comfort Specialist normally comes out and does whatever they do, and it gets back working. This time, I had to call an outside contractor because it was on a weekend and we had a family gathering over to the house. The outside contractor came in, gave me some Freon in the AC unit and told me that maybe one of the coils was bad, and to contact my home warranty.
When I contacted AHS, they called and told me what the price would be. The specialist came out and told me that the things that were on the list was not necessary and that it already came with the float switch. He called his boss and did whatever he did and said there wasn’t going to be any out-of-pocket expenses. I like them. They get very personal with you. They give you some little notes like if my AC wasn’t working they would suggest to clean around so that it can vent a little bit better so that they won’t keep getting called out. I will recommend them.

Every time we’ve had a problem--water tanks, oven doors, anything, America Home Shield has somebody out within three days. With our water tank, we paid $75, and then they were back the next month trying to fix it, the next month trying to fix it, and finally, they gave me a new one. And the only thing that I paid was to bring it up to code because code had changed in 10 years that we had had it. This is an amazing cost-saving coverage.
So far, the contractors have been great, super nice. However I wish that there was some way we could pick our own contractors. I’m into a new house now and I don’t remember who I was talking to. If there’s a problem after the one year warranty or five-year warranty I just work through you AHS to work with those contractors that way, I don’t have to go and get a whole different contractor to do it. I recommend AHS all the time especially when people buying a used house. AHS has the best deal going. I would never void my contract ever. I love them.

The AC went out in my home. I called American Home Shield to ask how long to get a technician out. The reply was 24-72 hours. I stated that I couldn't wait that long as I had a quadriplegic living in my home. The woman went silent. I asked her if she knew what a quadriplegic was. She said no. I explained that a person who is a quadriplegic was unable to move from the neck down and that he couldn't go for 24 to 72 hours without AC due to his condition. I asked if there was any contingency for such an emergency situation. She said I could submit my order and if after 24 hours I didn't hear from anyone I could call my own HVAC and that they would reimburse money spent less the $75. I responded that I couldn't wait 24 hours because I had a disabled person in my home. Again. Silence. Then she said that I had to submit my request on line.
I asked if there was any way to get someone out faster than 24 hours. She responded that I would have to wait 24 hours. I honestly don't think she understood the concept of "disabled" or "quadriplegic." I told her she had been of no help and that I was hanging up. As this was my first experience with American Home Shield, I will not be thinking of them first when I need a call out.

To date I have given AHS $2629.02. I have received contractors who are not satisfactorily fixing the appliance problems that have occurred. Each time something breaks, I have waited months before getting it fixed. In the case of my dryer (I was without a working dryer for more than 3 months during the winter) it was "fixed" a month ago and stopped working again the other day. We decided to just cancel our service with AHS and go buy a new one rather than wait through these shenanigans again.
Our dishwasher was broken for around 2 months (they sent 3 separate contracting services out to try and fix it) before they broke down and paid for another one. They "fixed" my gas oven and then on Super Bowl Sunday, when we turned it on for the first time IT CAUGHT ON FIRE! Also, several people have come out to "fix" my freezer and it is also not working again after a few weeks of working. All my freezer food is lost for a second time. I will never purchase home appliance insurance again. This was such an expensive headache.
Besides all the extra labor (hand drying clothes, hand washing dishes, laundromats, throwing wasted unfrozen food away, repurchasing more food for freezer and throwing that away when the freezer broke again, and hours wasted on the phone with customer service in the Philippines) and money paid to AHS ($2629.02), I have spent around $150 on laundromats, $800 on lost food from my freezer, and $250 to buy a new dryer, $30 dumpster fees, $80 labor delivering new dryer and disposing of old dryer. Total $3939 and a LOT of hassle. Please ensure my account with you is cancelled. I'm copying this letter to the Better Business Bureau.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have had several issue with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

The microwave kept blowing out, and it kept breaking the circuit. The electric people came out and the tech checked everything. He showed me a different way on how to prove it was the microwave so a microwave guy came out and he fixed it and it’s working ever since. The guy who came was good. He was a little chatty, but it’s okay. He was friendly and professional although I think you have to know your customer. If they don’t wanna be bothered, then don’t bother them.
For me to have a problem with a microwave that is brand-new is odd. He said like it was something inside that had broke. But I think this microwave was just replaced not even a little over a year ago. I feel like they should credit me back a service fee because it is the same electrical issue and same microwave. Even though they were years apart, my original microwave at my house had a service call, and the warranty company replaced it, and I was able to pay for the upgrade. But an electrical guy came out before that happened. That was two service fees and then I just did it again with an electrical guy and a microwave again.
Sometimes, people just come out and look at the surface. They test everything, and it could be something internal. So, if that happens again, I'm going to fight with that to let them know I need a senior electrician to look internally at the problem. It shouldn’t have happened within less than two years’ time. I could see if I was doing something really damaging to it like we’re just using it regular everyday use.
Normally I call for my claims. Sometimes I don’t like to do things online because sometimes they just send you to whatever company. If another company has already been out to my house, I like to keep the same people, if possible. It seems like ever since the virus, everything in the house has been breaking. I still pay for my home warranty, so everything is still good.

The ice machine and my refrigerator have been out since November. Dixon Appliance of Nela came back-and-forth but they couldn’t fix it. Then they charged me again to come out. I tried to tell them they still hadn’t fixed the problem but I didn’t wanna argue for $125 so I paid. The refrigerator had been on and off and I don’t trust it. I’ll get up one morning and it could be out. It’s lucky that I have a big house and I got lots of refrigerators. I’d have to move all my food out into my laundry room fridge. It’s a drink fridge but at least it’s something.
Now, this is going to half of April. It takes American Home Shield forever to fix something. Right now, my dishwasher is out but I haven’t bothered calling American Home Shield yet. It is a nightmare. If something breaks down, I know it’s not gonna get fixed any day soon. Even now, if I call American Home Shield, they would say I have two parts on order. I have yet to see those two parts though. But finally, this guy came and he said I needed to get a new refrigerator because they had changed every part possible. So now, we’ve got the new one and American Home Shield paid for it. It’s not Monogram but that’s okay. I needed to get this problem solved. I will also say that the Monogram refrigerator hasn’t gone out in the last three weeks.
However, the worst part is that American Home Shield had two different companies come out for the refrigerator and they would do different things. They should just dispatch one company so then they know what’s going on. That was the downfall. From now on, I’m gonna request a certain company. I prefer one company because they do a better job than the other.
The service is so bad. American Home Shield wouldn’t fix my oven door. It wouldn’t close and when the contractor came, they didn’t change the door. They changed the hardware. The door stayed open and it took me 45 minutes to get to 300 degrees. Finally, I got sick of it. I told my husband to buy me a new one because I could do it anymore. To hell with American Home Shield. I’ve been in this house for 15 years. It’s been 15 years and they haven’t fixed it. They weren’t going to do it. I don’t know how many times I’ve dispatched contractors and paid the $125. I understand I have to do that. That’s not a problem. But the problem was never fixed and I finally got tired of it. It was very frustrating.

They called me back and then they said they would have somebody out to my house 11:00 and 3:00 on Monday. The guy called me back and said he was sitting in front of the part store and the part store wasn't open but came out before 3:00. He communicated with me the whole time, very knowledgeable, and respectful.
Because only one spring was broken, I asked if there was a way to replace the other spring because I wanted to have it fixed properly. He replaced the other spring for me, I paid him and the job was done very quickly, efficiently and I really appreciated him. He did an awesome job. He kept his 6-foot distance, he answered all my questions, and replaced both springs very promptly, and even placed them in my garbage can so I didn't have to touch them. It was great.
We purchased this home on February 13th and it came with the home package. And the house is a little bit older but it has a lot of add-ons and stuff. We were very happy with the service. It's, a two-year contract so if we have anything else that goes wrong. The $75 for the deductible is fine and to have the other spring replaced at the same time so I didn't have to pay another deductible if it broke, I was happy with that.

My last two claims with AHS went well, but the first one did not go too well. The contractors that came the last few times were great. They were much more professional than the first one that came. I submitted my first claim over the phone, and the last two I did online, which was easier. According to the website, I would be called, but after a couple of days, I'm thought that there was a miscommunication. When I looked at a different e-mail, it said I needed to call. There needs to be some clarity there.

I had American Home Shield before when I owned a house several years ago. And then, when I bought my new house, I got them again. I like their coverage, their price, and their quick response. When the freezer was not freezing I filed a claim online and they gave me a confirmation within 10 minutes. I got a call the next day from the company that someone would be out the following day. Moonstar Appliance came out, looked at it, replaced the fan, and then had to replace a motherboard and back. They knew what to do. They were here quick, didn't leave a mess, cleaned up and put everything back. Everything's good so far.

I have had American Home Shield for 20 years already, and the process used to be easy and a lot cheaper. Nowadays, it is hard. It can take a few hours to call them. What they want you to do is email or buy whatever online, and then you cannot talk about who it is they are going to send. Not all of them are good too. You definitely cannot pick them because some things they only have one for. I called in my pool less than a month ago, and they happen to have two. I have had one guy that I refused to have out here -- his idea of fixing a leaky busted pipe was to put tape around it, so I did not want them.
When I started, the price was 25. Now, it is 75, but that happens and I'm not even upset about that. I'm upset that it is hard to have a conversation anymore. My mother, who is 88, does not do emails nor text. I do not know how to text myself. You call and you can do this and that, but they won't accept it. So they are hard to deal with. If I can never get through to them after a few hours, and we do things okay, then most of the vendors they have are good service. Overall, I like AHS's service, but their customer service is not very good anymore -- it is like everything else in the world these days. It sucks that you cannot get through.
We do apologize for any inconvenience and it is not our intent to make your customer service experience an awful one. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and we will take this into consideration. Do not hesitate to contact us with any concerns and or service questions. Have a great week.

My dishwasher was leaking, and one of the doors was not closing right on my refrigerator. The contractors came out and assessed what was wrong, and ordered the parts. In a day and a half later, we had them order, install, and repair. The techs were great. They were knowledgeable. They were really good about just doing their piece with as little interaction from me as possible so it was a great experience. The company that came and fixed it, followed up like three or four times just to make sure everything was satisfactory. And they did great with customer service and everything as well.

AHS somehow billed me $25.82 on my credit card and I have no idea why. I tried to connect with somebody there. Their reps kept saying they don’t see it on my account. I told them it wasn't on my account but it's on my credit card. I connected with my salesperson and emailed him asking if he got to the bottom of the issue with the $25.82. Somebody needs to get back to me on this issue. My salesperson still hasn't come back to me on resolving it.
More recently, our thermostat wasn't connecting with our air handler. We would push it to adjust the temperature but it wouldn't work. It wouldn't stop nor start up. Still, AHS is decent. The claim I submitted online to AHS for an issue with an evaporator coil went well. In about a day, their contractor from Comfort Systems of York County came out to do service in about 24 hours. American Home Shield was the warranty that came with the house. We were pleased with it in the first year so we decided to keep it in the second year. I have loved all my contractors so far. We've had a couple of plumbing issues, and the guys that come out to do the plumbing stuff has been the same company, and they're from our town. They're super fast and super responsive. We've had some air conditioning and heating work done and the same company that came out before did that also. They were really good about getting out and getting the parts in faster than what they thought and getting them put in.
The only issue I have is the current contractor that is working on the appliances. Two weeks ago, my dishwasher and dryer went out on the same day, and that was the first time I ever had to contact the contractor before they could contact me. They didn't give me a set time to come. They said they would be out that way next Tuesday, but it might be Monday or Saturday. Then they texted me or called me an hour before they showed up that Saturday.
I've been trying to communicate about getting the parts in to fix my dryer. I get that things could be slower right now, which is fine. It's just I would prefer it to be communicated because I reached out to them and they told me that they'd let me know when the parts would come in. They said it would take five to seven days, and then I asked if there is a way they could track the package so I could estimate and they didn't answer. I had to call AHS to contact them to get them to answer me back. That was a little frustrating. I have five people and I can't do laundry. It's really difficult.

I know a lot about appliances and this house is high-end and grossly overapplianced. I've been happy with the American Home Shield coverage. It's generally easy stuff. The fellow from Sears came at the very beginning of the window, which was only a day or two after I filed the claim. He finished all the work in a little bit over half an hour, and the appliance works fine.
I recently had a claim with a range where two different guys came and looked at something. One of them even followed up a little bit but they've never really tried to fix it. I gave up and just had an independent guy come and take care of it. It really wasn't something that was technical. I know they just wanted to order a part. All I wanted to fix was the light but I think they wanted a technical part number from Thermador that they could just order. It was just a little transformer the size of a 9-volt battery and I could have done it myself. It wasn't a particularly difficult thing and it wasn't an expensive part. They weren't able to see it through at all. That happens from time to time, probably a third of the time. They would make the incorrect claim, say it needs to be replaced which often isn't true. They'll say something like they can't fix it or they'll be like, "I don't know what's the model number."
There are a few brands where I just know better than to call any home warranty company about, unless for sure the thing can be repaired, or I'll just go to the factory guy. I accept that that's a limitation of a home warranty contract. If I wanted to get one of our Miele dishwashers fixed, generally, I wouldn't even call AHS about it unless the Miele tech comes and goes, "You need a new one." Then I would call them. And if it really needs to be replaced, then you negotiate the amount, whatever it is. We had one of those recently and that went acceptably well. It didn't cover the full cost of replacing the thing by a mile, but it was consistent with what the contract is.
I think all of these companies like American Home Shield were trained to say no a few times. But AHS is the least worse compared to their competition. I had a claim that took six months. It was absolutely black and white that they had to cover it. In fact, I came to American Home Shield after that. The one little squabble I had with them was resolved in under an hour. We fought over whether they had to buy a new fridge, which like I said, they're trained to do that. But it didn't take weeks, months, or even days, so fair enough.
And once you're in that process, it works like, "You can either have the money or we'll send you this unit." From that point, it's very straightforward and much easier than anybody else, so I give them some credit there. But they always wanna have a fight before buying me a new thing. They try to talk you into how it isn't something that's covered when it is something that's covered. Good policies have limitations, so do the repair guys. I think a lot of that looks like within the price. For $1,000 a year, they're not gonna buy me a $8,000 refrigerator. In worse case, you get maybe 3,000 out of it. You just have to decide if the premium is okay, taking that into account.
Another thing is plumbing where I know is something pretty specialized. I don't want the cheapest monkey from Albania or whatever working on it. I maybe can tell the difference between what anyone could do and what maybe a specialist needs to do. I really wouldn't let a thing like that escalate into a fight with the warranty company 'cause I want it repaired correctly.
I get a little unhappy when the guy can't reach in for a screwdriver and a pair of wire cutters to fix a piece of transformer. It's irritating. I had one guy that I never even heard from again. AHS reassigned it. I didn't have to complain that the guy didn't work on it. They said, "We have a different tech coming." That guy at least followed up by phone a couple of times saying, "I'm still looking for your part." He's like, "I give up. I don't know where your part is." I'm like, "It's just a little 12-volt transformer for God's sake.” That's why I called the guy I know and he came, installed it for me. The repair was like 100 bucks.
The part I paid was 75. But the thing is that I actually put in for two different things so I ended up getting a $1,100 settlement on our little undercounter refrigerator at the same time. It wasn't like, "You really need to give me back the 75 bucks. You guys failed." It might have come to that but in this case, I didn't pay a separate fee for that. I wasn't stunned that they weren't willing to really wrench on the thing. And they didn't make a mess or break anything. I'm sort of okay with it. I didn't die of shock that it went down like that.
Also, American Home Shield could make the renewal process more graceful. I understand that you get a new contract number every year. It's a lot of steps to register if you're gonna use the online services. Your account essentially disappears at the end of the year when the contract rolls over. You have to reinitiate everything over again. They should make it more graceful to roll over at least the online account.
My main thing is around renewal time, it gets much more difficult to use the contract. It's like that you're essentially kicked out of the system when the one contract rolls off. You get an entirely new contract. My email address and all that doesn't change. A lot of my account stuff is still there, but it's still a pain. It should just reflect that you had one contract. The contract number should just change rather than the whole login. It's so annoying when all the contract details are completely wiped out of the account. Something’s happening that's urgent enough for you to wanna get it fixed, then you're like, "What do you mean there's no contract associated to your login?" It's a high blood pressure sort of thing.
Also, the contractors disappear out of your online account which is jarring every time that happens. And we go long periods without using it. We pay every year but I've definitely gone multiple years, about eight or nine, and probably five of those I didn't have any claims for anything. But I keep AHS warranty around. The reason we have that is for like a $10,000 air conditioner quits completely or a water heater, fridge, things like that.

The claim regarding our plumbing issue was absolutely amazing. When we did it, we got a call from Budget and they said they were totally booked through Friday. Within 30 minutes later, a lady called me back and said a guy was on his way. I told her I thought they were booked. She said, “We were, but you were so nice and you didn’t complain. You didn’t make it sound like it was the end of the world. I’m gonna send him on his way home.” The guy came by and he was as pleasant as the day is long. He totally kept social distancing and had the issue fixed in no time. It was really sweet and I most appreciated it. My hat is off to them.
On a different claim for the heater, the guy from the heating place came out and said we needed a new part. He also said, “A lady will call you within half an hour to two hours. And then we’ll come back. There’s not gonna be any additional charge or anything, and we’ll put the part in.” It was pretty cold at that time. This was a week ago or so and we didn’t hear anything. I called the next day and told them I didn’t know if I missed a call from them. She said they’ve ordered the part and it’s gonna be sent to my house. My only little gripe is that they should’ve called me back to let me know that because I was thinking they were blowing me off when really, they’ve ordered the part. Communication is really important. But other than that, everything is great with AHS.

We had a leaky valve in our hot water heater and I made a claim with American Home Shield through the main contact for the home warranty which was like our area contact. I just texted. The rep was no longer working but she helped me even though she was done. I was then able to get ahold of the person that took her spot and he gave me all the information. He also gave me a number for me to call the next time. The next day, someone from C & P Plumbing came out. He was very pleasant and he knew what the problem was right away. He fixed it and was in and out pretty quickly. So far, we haven't had any other issues. Everything is good.
We didn’t have as good an experience when we were having our refrigerator work done. The third company was the one that fixed it. My husband knew what was wrong with it but the other two people didn’t. We had a little bit of issue there. The last guy who fixed it was probably the best we’ve had. This is our second year with American Home Shield. We bought our house in 2007. Things start to go and two years ago, we decided we had better get a home warranty. With our water heater claim, I was told something to the effect that AHS won’t be replacing the hot water heater. They have to fix whatever is wrong with it. We realize that if AHS can fix it then that's great. If the part wasn’t available or if it was beyond fixing, then we would probably get a new hot water heater. We were fine with that.

But no sooner than he drove out of the driveway, I turned it on and it sounded like Boeing 747 taking off. It vibrated all the way out to the door. I called back immediately and complained. The man left this giant grease-leaking part in my laundry room. He left grease prints all over my wall, my washer and the dryer. He didn't clean up his mess. I told American Home Shield to not send that man back. I told them to send somebody else in that company, but they sent him back anyway two more times until I finally had a fit.

I bought the gas stove from a discount store in July and on the 12th of August, I reported that both the burners were doing the ignition sound, even when the flame came on. Thor Appliance came out and they fixed it. But a few days later, the problem started again. I had to fly out to India but when I came back, it was doing the same thing. I reported it again and they came. They said they fixed the nose clips but within three days, it was doing the same thing again.
I reported it and they said I had to pay them $240 for the nose clips and that I was out of the warranty. They said I only had a 90-day warranty because I bought it from a discount place. I told them that in the first place, the problem which I reported never got fixed. They were pretty much doing a very Mickey Mouse job that it was coming up again and again. If the burner needed to be replaced, they should do that because it was reported within the 90-day warranty. But they refused. They told me that the manufacturer will send the parts, but I have to get my own technicians.
I called American Home Shield. I had three people come in from different companies and they couldn’t figure it out. I was very disappointed. One of them said he was not gonna touch it because it was within the manufacturer’s warranty. I showed him the receipt where it says it's a 90-day warranty. He showed me the website and then he tried to talk to those people and they said the same thing, but he said he was not gonna touch it because it was under the manufacturer’s warranty.
I told the manufacturer to ship me the parts and I would ask American Home Shield to send the technician. And they did exactly that. They sent me a burner and the nose clips. When the last technician came in, he said he would replace the burners first and see what happens. The problem got fixed. He knew what he was doing, and within 15 minutes, he was out. So after a thread of 50 emails, my problem got solved. The stove is working fine now. Overall, American Home Shield was good enough because they kept sending me different people until my problem was fixed.

I had three different issues where one toilet was leaking, one was constantly running and other was not flushing properly. I went online and filed a claim for all of them. The AHS site was really easy and simple. It was pretty self-explanatory. Colorado First Plumbing and Sewer was our given vendor and I was to be contacted within 24 hours. The vendor contacted me right away and everything was so fast. Their guy came out. It happened Monday. The guy was awesome and he was really helpful and friendly. My partner and I were working still and he worked around our schedule. Everything got taken care of and it seems to be good.

When I have a claim, I call up American Home Shield and tell them what the problem is. They charge me $100 immediately when I call them up. For a claim regarding my pool, they got in touch with ABNation. ABNation called me and made an appointment for the service for the following day or the day after. I know ABNation as I’ve had them here twice. Initially, the problem had to do with a piece on the filter that was broken. When you put the filter on, the pool would lose water because there was a piece on the filter. That piece had to be changed and ABNation did that.
I only used American Home Shield for the pool. The guy usually comes in a day. If it was something that I needed to be done really quickly and it took time, that would be a problem. But that hasn’t been the case. Also, AHS charges $100 every time you call to have somebody come and fix something. They called ABNation once for something that had to do with the pool but they weren’t the right company to do it. That still cost me $100. AHS sent the right company and it cost me another $100. They don’t fix actual leaks that are a part of the pool. If the pool is broken, they’ll fix leaks that are because of the mechanic of the pool like the filter.

We had an electric issue and it was handled fine. Putting in the claim was a very easy process. I usually start online and then if I have a problem, then I'll call. The reps are very good too. We also had a problem with our furnace when it went out and the guy didn't show up. I already waited six hours for this other guy to show up and the house was cold. When I called AHS and told them, they sent somebody else out right away.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for a very long time now so it saved me a lot of money. I had a problem with a circuit board on a stove. It wound up being a problem with the circuit board and the manufacturer no longer made that circuit board so I wound up getting a new stove. I never knew how many years of warranty I would’ve needed to save up to get a $1,700 stove. Recently, my toilet was leaking. I needed a new flapper valve where the tank was attached. The guy who came out did a new supply line from under the house. He answered all my questions and he was great.
Sometimes, they may not have anybody in their arsenal to call on about a claim like my tankless water heater that is electric. If only they have somebody that could cover the newer, more modern appliances, that would be good because people are having to look into the issue and do some research before they could work on my stuff. But they have come to rescue many times when I didn’t have large amounts of money to spend on a repair. Sometimes, some years I don’t use it, but I still figure, if I had needed to use it, I’ve got it there as an insurance policy. They’ve always been there for everything that I needed.

American Home Shield was the most publicized, most recognizable and credible organization at the time I selected them about three years ago. I generally call to submit a claim because I like to hear if I can get all the information at one time. I can get an acknowledgment of the call and timelines when I should expect things to start happening. That way, I don't have to wait for AHS to call me back or text me. I have a framework that I can work within. Now, when they send a text and stuff, it just confirms what I already know even if I don't see it right away.
The response time has been pretty good for me. The actual people that AHS sent out, except with one exception, had been professional, knowledgeable, and repaired the situation. I have the same company as some of my family members and there’s such a discrepancy in the upfront price. That certainly had made me consider calling around to see what else was out there. There are other companies out there and all the people who have some of these seem to be quite satisfied with the service that they’ve received.

John Hudgins Plumbing came out to our home. He came twice. First of all, I had asked them to address a leaky faucet out in the back. And he checked that, and there was nothing wrong with it. It just needed to be screwed tighter. But I was afraid to touch it for fear I’d break something. But I also had asked to have him check the toilet that was wobbling on the floor and the shower. When my husband would be taking a shower and have the temperature of the water just right, it would click out on him.
The plumber said he would have to come back. That shower needed a part. So then, he came back Monday because he got the part. And he fixed the toilet. And then, in this place where we live, there are eight families that are on that one water. We have to turn the water off to the whole bunch of us. So, very quickly, we turned off the water and installed that thing. And the people weren’t without water for more than 30 minutes, so he did an excellent job. I’m a big fan of AHS. I sold real estate for about 35 years in St. Louis and I sold an awful lot of AHS policies.

I work in real estate. I had my AC break down and I didn't have a home warranty at the time. I had to come out of pocket to pay it. After talking with a few friends, it was just better for me to have a home warranty. I’m a single mom so I don’t have a lot of reserves built up if something happens at bay. I tried American Home Shield. I know the account manager and she has always helped me if I have any problems with them. American Home Shield was just the one to go with. I've been with them for four years and they work better for me.
The faucet in my secondary bathroom was leaking and I went online to do a claim through the American Home Shield website. That was easy. I got an email and a text that I would be called within 24 business hours. I did the claim on a weekend so I knew it would be a couple of days. Colony Home Maintenance and Repair Services came out and they were amazing. They were easy to work with. They were fast and they explained everything to me. They even called the home warranty company and got it cleared right then and there to make the repair. They made everything really easy for me. Since they came, things have been perfect. there are no leaks and no sound from the bathroom.

I called for my washing machine. My wife was home when the first company came out and they didn’t give her a business card. The guy looked at the washing machine for five minutes, didn’t turn it on, didn’t do diagnostic, and told her that I needed to unhook the washing machine and leave it out the curb so he could pick it up, and he didn’t give her any information. I told my wife that we ain’t doing that. After I complained and complained to Home Shield, the second company came out and they were really nice. They looked at my washer, said what was wrong, went and got parts, tried to fix it and couldn’t fix it, so then Home Shield replaced it.
Now, another company came to bring it and install it. They had no mask or gloves. They tried to shake my wife’s hand and she doesn't shake hands. Then, they hooked up the washing machine and told us to let it run, and once it'd be done running, then we could do a load. The first time with no clothes in it, it didn’t shake. Once my wife put clothes in there, and it was supposed to be a brand new unit, it shook even worse than my old machine that was broken.
It seems like no matter what anybody they send out, the contractors don’t do what they’re supposed to do. I’m paying the service for each month and then I had to pay 100 bucks for them to come out. What’s the use of even calling them if they’re just gonna keep sending out crappy workers? It’s very frustrating. Like me, I’m a contractor and I don’t do appliances. I’m not gonna tell someone I do appliances and go out there and try to mess with somebody’s things and not be able to do it. Also, when I go to houses, I wear my mask and gloves. It aggravates me that they’re sending people that don’t take anything seriously. No one cares and no one wants to listen.

I am very dissatisfied with the service I have received from American Home Shield's Billing/Cancellation department. Their customer service is below par in more ways than I can describe. I have been a customer since 2013 and have no issues with the way they handled service calls I had over the years. Due to COVID-19 and financial situations, I have had to make choices in my finances so needed to cancel this policy. When I called to cancel, it was very difficult to understand the representative from American Home Shield. Once she told me she was transferring me to the cancellation department, I was on hold for over 30 minutes waiting for them to answer.
Once the cancellation department answered, the person that answered the phone was less than helpful, and sounded half asleep. Once he took my cancellation, he told me I would receive an email confirming the cancellation and nothing was owed. I did receive that email with an effective date of 4/1/2020 and $0.00 owed. On 4/2/2020 my regular premium was taken out of my account, to which I called and asked for a refund as I canceled my policy. They issued the refund promptly.
Today, 4/7/2020 they took out ANOTHER premium payment. I called and was on the phone with them for over an hour. The initial representative was impossible to understand and transferred me again to the cancellation department. They never answered, this went on for a long time. IN the end, I am totally unhappy with this company, where after 7 years of being a loyal customer, now will give them a very poor review. I will not recommend them to anyone I come into contact with. In the event I wish to purchase a home warranty for my home, I will not use American Home Shield. Poor poor customer service and in this day and time, so sad.
We do apologize for the back and forth. We have read over your complaint and we are taking into consideration this matter. We show that our cancellation department are in the process of handling this and making sure this is cancelled and reimbursed properly. Thank you for contacting us in this matter and making us aware.

I had a problem with my air. I called American Home Shield, who I pay in excess of $65.00 monthly. They said they would send a contractor out and took the $75.00 service cost. When the man from Southern Heating and Air came, he checked my unit, found no Freon in it, said there was a leak somewhere and said he would return with equipment to evaluate where the leak was coming from. Two days later, I received a call from American Home Shield stating that the contractor informed them that there was a leak and that I would need to pay in excess of $600.00 to have him put in the Freon. She said that AHS only paid $10.00 per pound for Freon, and that the contractor was charging $100.00 per pound.
Why is it that AHS allows these contractors to charge their (AHS) customers prices that are downright unreasonable? If at the time they solicited the contractor and learned the cost of Freon they were charging, why not get another contractor for their customers, or at the very least meet the customer halfway on the price of the Freon?
I do not think this is fair to the consumer and wonder why they are taking advantage of us in this way. We are senior citizens trying as best we can to live day by day. If this is how AHS had determined they will treat their customers, it is truly a big disappointment to us. What are we to do about our air? How do we make it through the summer? The amount is too great for us to bear. If we chose another contractor, we are out the $75.00 service fee. However, we are completely unsatisfied with the current contractor.

Plumbing Repair ASAP came out right away, sooner than expected. The tech had to cut holes in the ceiling around the hot water heater. And where he thought the valve was, he found the joint and the joint just fell apart and another part fell apart. Also, he turned off a valve, replaced the joint, and then replaced that valve or the turn-off valve. Then, he left and told us to watch it for 24 hours just to make sure. The tech was really good and everything was fine, except that we have a lot of water damage in the ceiling.
I’ve been doing nothing but trying to explain to Home Shield how much damage there is in the ceiling and they keep insisting it’s only a little 12-inch by maybe 11-inch area and then another 6x6. I can’t get it through to them that it’s not inches, it’s feet. We have a 7x16 foot area. And the reps kept giving me the runaround and kept giving me the name of a drywall man that does not work for them. Also, I couldn't talk to them because most of them don't speak decent English. If you tell them you can’t understand them, they start talking faster and higher and that makes it all the worst because on a cellphone, it’s really hard to hear them. They gotta talk louder and slower and then they’d be fine. Some of the women weren’t too bad, but some of them were awful. The men especially were terrible. They have terrible phone service.
I just gave up. The ceiling is now being fixed because we couldn’t wait for them anymore. We're paying the drywall man ourselves because we couldn't get any satisfaction from Home Shield. Now, I have a bill and I called specifically the number they said to call if I had questions on it. The rep couldn’t tell me a darn thing except that I owed them $100. I asked who I owed it to and she said she didn’t know and she would have to talk to her supervisor. I still haven’t heard back. That was the other thing. They said they would call back but they never did, I had to call them. The only time they called was with the plumber.
Also, I’m trying to get rekeying and one lady called. She gave me all the information that I have to do. I know they took the $100 for that but I can’t get anybody to come up because of the Corona virus. No one is even answering their phone. The worst part of this whole thing is dealing with Home Shield. I am not happy with them at all and it’s been awful. As soon as I get this rekeying done, I’m done with them.
We do apologize for the inconvenience. We do thank you for being a valued part of AHS . It is not our intent to cause a hassle or any issues. We will take into consideration this matter regarding the re-key and the drywall. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

Also, I like Home Shield, but they went from $75 a visit to $100 and I didn’t like that big jump in price.
My heating stopped so I submitted a claim over the phone. The reps are pretty good when I can get through but it's a long wait. We had a prior warranty company, and we were paying probably about $300 less a year for them. But when the two years old it died, it cost me over $2,000 with the old warranty company to get that repaired so we immediately started shopping for a new warranty company and spoke with American Home Shield. I explained what we had just gone through, and they told us how much it would’ve cost with them and so we switched.
I filed a claim with AHS for our downstairs AC unit. It was not working. When I called for the service to come out, everything was automated. They told me someone will respond within 24 to 48 hours. And then when she called me back, she told me that the company itself would let me know when the parts were in to finish the job. They ordered the parts on a Wednesday, and they came out to install everything the following Monday.
There was a little bit of confusion at first. They had to come out three times to fix it. The first guy who came out thought it was one thing, and then he tried that fix and it didn’t actually fix the problem. And then he called for a senior tech, and he came out and he thought it was the same thing the original guy thought it was. So, he tried to do something slightly different but along the same lines, and it still didn’t work. So then, he figured out it was something else, ordered the part, and then came out the third time and actually fixed it. In the middle of that, AHS and I had a little bit of a back and forth conversation about some stuff. But in the end, they resolved it the way it needed to be resolved.

However, someone sent by AHS came to work on our stove but didn't fix it. They didn't put the wiring back together right and so it may have shorted out. I was pissed off because I have to call the contractor sent by AHS within 30 days. A new guy had to come and I had to pay for it. My electric hot water tank was burning coils and water was getting cold fast. I called American Home Shield on Monday and the technician was there on Wednesday. He went and got his tools, and the job was done 30 minutes later. He was clean and swift. He was very friendly and the claim was beautiful.
Aaron,

Every time I call Home Shield, they get the things that I need repaired. But sometimes, depending on the availability of the contractor, it takes a little bit longer than other times. For the most part though, they have finished and done a great job with the items that we have had them to work on. A couple of years ago on an air conditioning problem that I had, the contractors were a little expensive for the other repairs outside of what is covered. But the way that they repaired the job, I’m happy with.

The freezer of my refrigerator stopped getting cold and it stopped working totally. I made a service request to AHS and they had Sears come out. They were prompt. They called and they came out in a day or two. My refrigerator went down and now, I'm gonna be able to get another one. AHS gave me some money towards that. If you don’t have a home warranty, you should invest in one. AHS is an excellent idea and they have been very helpful. But they need to improve on the follow-up call once they close you out like if they're gonna buy another one for you. They should make sure that they follow up after their customer after the service has been done even if it's just a quick followup to ask how things went. But with everything that’s going on, I'd give them a break. I also need to call AHS because they told me they were gonna send out my gift card within two days but I haven’t received it yet.

I have no idea how latches work. Action Overhead Door came out. A latch came loose and all the tech had to do was snap it back in and he oiled the rollers. We’ve had some problems where the contractors had to come back, but that’s typical. Some of those things were trial and error. We had an ice maker that we had a problem with last year and the tech came back twice, but he finally got it fixed.
I just wish there were some closer people to our area because it’s always one day a week thing. They can’t work as soon. They were out maybe for a week. That’s the biggest problem we have found. Also, the guy that did the ice maker could barely walk. He had to get down the floor and had all kinds of problems getting up. I’m all for older people doing their jobs and working when they can, but it makes you nervous when somebody gets on the floor and you don’t know if you’re gonna get him up.

I had water on my floor that I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I made a claim, which was easy, and Southern Air Conditioning came to check it out the same day. I had the water heater as well as the heat and air checked, and nobody could find the problem so far. We haven't found the source. It's not wet right now, but I think it'll come back.

Everything was fine with my claim with Advanced Appliance Repair. The washing machine kept coming up with an error but I could never figure it out so I called American Home Shield to come fix it. I've been with them for a couple of years and every time I've done something, they took care of what I needed. One time, I did a claim on my air conditioner and I didn’t really trust the diagnosis I was given so I called and got a second opinion on my own. I spent my own money to pay for it. Once I got the second opinion, I paid for the problem to be fixed then I called American Home Shield and they reimbursed me for it. So everything with them has been good so far.

The first company, Blue Ridge Mountain, saw what the issue was, but when they reported it back, they reported it in a way that was not correct so that I would have to pay them more money. There was a lot of back and forth with them. A&B Plumbing & Home Services, on the other hand, was a lot better. The guy came right out and saw what the issue was. He went back out and called to explain what was happening, and then he fixed it in less than five minutes. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was an easy process. I've, however, had another home warranty company and I liked the pricing of the other one a little better. What they covered was a little bit more, too.

And because we had another heating and cooling people that usually do our heating and cooling, they suggested that I needed to talk with them, and I did but they refused to do anything. So I called back Everyday, and they came and fixed what was wrong. They were excellent.

The people who owned this house before us lied to us like crazy during the escrow. And thank God for Home Shield because we’re getting some things fixed. Some things, we have to take to court on. It’s unbelievable, some of the things they lied to us about. And right now, I have workmen out there, putting up a new garage door because it's coming apart. That’s not covered by Home Shield but the garage door opener was. Also, all four septic tanks were full and the previous owners said they had pumped it two years before. Their Realtor also said that it had been pumped two years before but it hasn’t been pumped in probably 10, 12 years.
But the air conditioning guy, when he came out, he checked everything around and he said, “Well, here’s your problem right here. The pump’s burnt out." A whole pump was completely non-functioning. We had him out to do the spring checkup and he said it looked like nobody had come out in a long time. And when he went up into the attic, he found where somebody who is not a professional tried to correct something or do something, and wired something up there, and the wire was burnt in two. He fixed that. He caught that right away.
The home protection guy that we hired to do the inspection said that the HVAC system had some issues, but the seller said, “No, it’s fine.” And we made him pay for Home Shield for us. There are things that of course are not going to be covered, but yay! My experience with the seller is just unreal. And with all this other crisis going on, it’s a bit hard to deal with. But fortunately for us, we have a little extra money. And our Realtor made the sellers pay all of our closing costs so we had that extra money to take care of some of these repairs. But we have to take them to the Texas commission because they lied about the disclosures.
But our every single experience with the repairmen with American Shield have all been fantastic. We had them out for the HVAC, septic, plumbing, electrical, and a guy is coming right now to look at the dishwasher, which the previous homeowners also lied about, to see if they can be repaired and fixed. Every single repairman has just been unbelievably nice. I’m not used to that. We’re from southern California where nobody is nice. And it has been just one really good experience after the other. Every single person treated us like gold and went beyond and above, gave us tips on this and that, all the way from mothballs to keep snakes away, to all kinds of things. And they’ve been really super. In fact, the HVAC guy told us all kinds of things, like what he used to kill the fire ants and what he used for this. It had nothing to do with HVAC, but he was just a good old boy.
We have kept every single one of those gentlemen’s cards, and whether or not we will continue to be covered under Home Shield down the road, we will use those guys because they are so good, so sweet and so nice. I called yesterday morning about the garage door opener, dishwasher and the electrical issue and two of the people were here within a couple hours. It wasn't urgent. But they called up and said, “Hey, we got time right now. Can we come out?” “Sure.” It just blew my mind. I’m used to waiting two or three weeks for a repairman to come to service me, which is one of the reasons why we moved to Texas and got the hell out of California.
The only thing is Home Shield does get busy. But I understand that this Coronavirus just makes the staff late. Sometimes, you have to wait quite a while on the phone. But I have learned when to call and when not to call for service or anything like that. But other than that, they're really great. And to their credit, I’ve always been able to understand them when they talk to me. In California, most of the people that would take phone calls were from foreign countries and they would send people out for the wrong thing. Not here. They send people out for the correct things.

We’re in our second year with Home Shield at this location. I bought the house new five years ago. But I’ve had American Home Shield at previous homes at other locations. I like that I have one number to call, or now they have it online, that I can get stuff fixed, make my wife happy, and she’s not mad at me. The water in the dishwasher wasn’t getting hot. Proficient Appliance Repair contacted me the next day and told me they would come the following Monday between 4:00 and 6:00, and the guy was there at that time. He was good. He fixed it and told us if we had any other problems, to call him back. He would leave the ticket order open if there were some other issues. The dishwasher works great.

I liked American Home Shield for two reasons. One was, it was said to be the number one provider on the internet. I'm old and gray-headed, and I didn't know if it was true or not, but it was between them and Sears, and I went with AHS. But I'm struggling now because my friend went with Sears and he said that they would replace his central air or heating system completely if they couldn't repair it. And the guy that fixed ours said that AHS would only do so much on it. Still, I'm happy with AHS so far.
I'm an old country boy and when my furnace broke, it was cold. I called AHS on the weekend and they said they couldn't get anybody at that time, but they would see what they could do. I asked if we could get it fixed because we got local people here that would fix it. Now, American Home Shield has the right to send who they wanna send, so they said they were gonna send out a request for us and then the contractor would be getting in touch with us shortly. But the guy sent a text back that said he was out of town and wouldn't be able to come out until Monday.
So, I called American Home Shield back and explained to them that we didn't have any heat and my wife and I are both elderly. But they said they were sorry and that they couldn't just let us call who we wanted to call. They told us that they had to get a provider and that'd be who the provider is in our area. But I told them that he was not available, then the rep put me on hold for 10 minutes. When he got back on there, he said that they couldn't let us get anyone local, but they'd try to find somebody else. He then asked me to hold and I told him that I had been on there for 10 minutes and I could wait 10 more. That was the truth and I wasn't being rude.
Then, after almost another 10 minutes, he got back on and said that they found somebody else. He said that they were we're gonna text them and the contractor would get back with us within 24 hours. But I told him that 24 hours wouldn't help us. We got no heat and we couldn't control that. Then they said that the contractor would send me an email. So, I hang up. But when I checked my email about an hour later, it was the same company. So, I called AHS back and I told them that they didn't do anything. They were still sending me the same guy that couldn't be here until Monday. When I asked again if I could just get someone to fix it, they said I couldn't do that. I didn't like dealing with them and the way they handled things that's why I am leaning to change to Sears. But overall, when the guy came, he was wonderful and I couldn't have handpicked anybody any better.
Still, there should be somewhere in American Home Shield that would say, "Hey, wait a minute. We wanna make sure you have heat in your house. So, we're gonna let you get somebody local to fix it." Also, I had a different company before I went to American Home Shield and if the dishwasher went out but they didn't have anybody in our area, they'd say that we could get it fixed. Then we could pay the bill, have it sent to them, and they'd reimburse us. And they did that really well. The only difference was they had a lot of restrictions on their air conditioning and heating. They would only go up to $2,000 and that was it. I had them for three years until I found out about American Home Shield and I switched. Other than that, when I was on the phone with AHS, I didn't have any wait time and they answered pretty quickly.

There are two zones in our hot water heating system, one for downstairs and the other for upstairs. There seemed to be some oil leaking from one of those zone pumps. It is a red device. We submitted the claim over the phone and we spoke to a live person from American Home Shield. The man from Pro Comfort Heating & Cooling came, cleaned up the oil on the floor and checked it out. Nothing seemed to be needing any attention, and he suspected that when somebody was here in the fall, they simply lubricated it so much that a little bit of the oil dribbled out. The man did a good job cleaning up, and he was polite and informative. Everything seems to be fine since he did the repair.

Our dishwasher was giving us a particular error that we could not get off of the LED screen despite following all procedures in their manual. It turned out to be a defective board and float valve. We filed a claim and the contractor was supposed to contact us within 24 hours. They were very quick about it. The contractor was very professional, personable and clear. He came in, did his work, kept within social distancing and wore a mask which was really good. Since we were having to work, he was very sensitive to what we were doing in the house at the time. After he took his time diagnosing the situation, he came back in a terse and lucid manner and explained what the problem was. He said he didn't have the replacement parts to do this, had to order them and that he would be back in about a week.
He got the material several days later. He came back and did the work. He was in and out of here after he checked the machine. He knew what he was doing and this was probably the best experience that we've had with American Home Shield. We were with 2-10 and we moved to AHS. In many ways, it's been a very big rollercoaster ride with them as a warranty company. We've had other problems with a larger situation with our central air setup and the company they chose for that was not good. We did not get any satisfaction from AHS. This past year, we were seriously wondering whether we were gonna renew with them. But this last time, the technician that they sent out came through. I also had this particular company before when we had a washing machine problem. The tech came out and he was very professional and handled it really great.

We've had to wait and I haven't had time to look for another company. It has been very difficult to get through to them and the contractors who come out are not well-known businesses. We've even had service people who came whom we just told to leave and then we would wait another week to get somebody else out.
