Air Pro Master was good. They were there when they said they would. It still leaked that same day, so I called them back. But the next day, the tech said it was fine. The thing is, once you close the ceiling up, if it starts dripping again, “Oh, no. Here I’m in the same boat again. Who is fixing what?” So, right now, the workmanship that they did is fairly good. The tech said, “Well, it could’ve leaked just a little bit.” But he ran the water and everything.
There are certain things Home Shield is okay about. I had a claim that was in the refrigerator, the person that came out said it was because of overloading. That’s completely not true and they denied the claim. And I still had to pay the money. So, Home Shield listens to the subcontractor that comes out. To me, it wasn’t overloaded and it’s just been used. I can understand if it was completely beat up. You’re walking into a home and it’s not beat and it’s being used. So, that should’ve been taken care of by the subcontractor. But maybe he couldn’t get it, or the part was too expensive, or he just didn’t want to deal with it, so the first thing he said was misused or overloaded.

Eventually, my claim ended up fine but the first time the technician from 2 Bald Guys came out, he stood there, put a water glass in each corner of my top rack and ran part of the cycle. Then he said it wasn’t getting a lot of water up there. He said we would need a new water pump. He didn't get down, look at the filter or the garbage disposal. He didn't do anything. Then he came back with the part, got down on the floor and said he couldn’t get the thing up and out. He said that the hardwood was right there in front of it. He kept going on and on about how they couldn’t assume the liability of messing up my floor because he couldn't get the dishwasher out. He said we would have to call a carpenter to get the thing out. We had just moved into this house so I didn't know all of this stuff. I said okay.
But afterwards, I had an electrician and his brother here. I asked if they could take a look and see what was going on with this dishwasher. I told them about how the guy was here and they did it in a minute. So I called him 2 Bald Guys and by then, I was a little bit ticked off. I told them that the technician needs to come back. I said that I just had somebody else here doing something else and they got the dishwasher out in about a minute. I told 2 Bald Guys how they did it and the rep said, "I totally understand why he didn't assume." It’s like he was not even listening to me. Then he said the first that they could get me in was the next Wednesday. It was Thursday then. I was told this was a 10-minute job and this wasn't my fault. But he said they were booked solid and that that was the best they could do. I was boiling. I said fine, that I would see him next Wednesday.
So then the guy came back and he said, "Wow, how'd they get it out?” Maybe I'm overreacting but it seemed like a big joke to me. Isn’t that kind of elementary? He had to come back one more time because my top dishes weren't getting cleaned. That particular time, I had done something wrong. I had loaded something in the silverware basket that was too high and it was restricting the flow. So okay, that one was my fault. The guy was nice and when he came back, I felt bad. I said that was so stupid. I just totally missed that. But the other thing was just illiterate. Getting the darn dishwasher out didn't make any sense to me. This company is like 50 miles away too. I asked him how they got associated with the company and he said they just applied.

I had an issue with my garbage disposal one time and I went online to submit a claim to American Home Shield. Their website was very user-friendly. It gave me steps before I actually submitted a claim to get a technician out which was helpful. Their contractor, United Air Temp called to set up the date for the appointment. They were gonna do the work the next day but then I couldn't do that so I scheduled a couple of days out. They had a very quick turnaround and the tech who came was very knowledgeable and courteous. A blade was locked in and he used an Allen wrench to fix the issue. Since then, the disposal has been working fine.

I called a service order on Friday. The sales rep tried to get me somebody within 48 hours, but nobody was available until Friday. And the appointment is gonna be at 3 o’clock. So, if it’s gonna need a part to fix the problem, it won’t be fixed until the following week. But my sales rep, Sheryl, was wonderful. She went above and beyond. She was really good at what she does. The service is amazing with American Home Shield. They don't just have enough vendors.

A plumber came out and explained that I had an electrical issue so American Home Shield sent out them a contractor. My experience with American Home Shield wasn’t the best. I've been having issues with the water heater and the one tech contractor that they had come out was making excuses and not following through so the ball continued to roll. AHS would say they would call him then they would tell me to call back the next day. I would and they would once again say they would call the contractor and leave a voicemail. He should get back to me in 24 hours. I would then have to call back the next day. They kinda dragged it along until I called the contractor and told him that if he could not fix the issue, he should tell the home warranty so they could send out someone else. He did that finally and that was when somebody else came out and actually diagnosed the problem.
Whenever a contractor comes out to your home at least twice and the issue is still not solved, AHS should just find another contractor that could go to the home to see what exactly is going on versus constantly reaching out to somebody. They should figure out what it is that the contractor can do or cannot do. If he can’t do the job, send another person out to the home. On our end, we still have to sit here and wait and wait.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. If your issue is unresolved, please contact us for assistance. Have a great week.

When I first joined Home Shield, there was no website where I could order. I had to sit on the phone and wait forever to get in, which was a pain. But they fixed that. Also, they had a contractor for a while that kept getting sourced to me who was a total idiot. He supposedly could do everything and they use him over and over again for everything I put in. He would come out and I would have to pay him the service fee, that was back when I had to pay the person showing up a $75 fee instead of giving it to Home Shield. And he would take that fee and fix nothing. I reported it.
There were friends of mine who had American Home Shield that tried to report it. He was a fraud and they kept him on their books for years. The feedback never gets to Home Shield. I left messages and I called. I said I don't want him and they would still send him out. Finally, I just started refusing him. Home Shield doesn't have a better way to provide feedback for the service provider.
But Optimum Appliance has fixed my refrigerator probably six times now and the tech always does a great job. I have a 25-year old Sub-Zero that would cost close to 25 grand to replace. They don't even make Sub-Zeroes like that anymore. I'm not gonna replace it because little things break on it. If it completely clunks out, then I'll do the American Home Shield thing. He's the only one that knows how to work on my Sub-Zero so if Home Shield could have a request page where we can get the service provider that has worked of us in the past as long as they work for Home Shield.

The main switch on my garage door burned up. I paid Home Shield $75 and they sent somebody to check it out. Capital City Overhead Door came out and I had to pay an extra $125. I thought I had full coverage on everything but with the policy I got, Home Shield doesn't cover everything. I had to get my air conditioner replaced. They said they couldn’t repair it and I had to buy a new air conditioner. Home Shield gave something on it but that cost me three grand.

This is the first time we had used the American Home Shield warranty. Submitting the claim was awesome. It was smooth as silk. Appliance Doctors of Central Texas came out really quickly, which was very nice because it was a washing machine issue and we use that fairly regularly. The tech diagnosed what was wrong, and they said that they would be back to fix it. They did and he was on-time. He fixed it and it’s running beautifully. The whole thing happened in less than a week.
My sister had recommended that I get AHS. In the 70s I was a licensed Realtor. In order to sell older properties, I used to have the seller buy one of their policies for the people who were purchasing their home. And so, I had information about them for years and years, but I had forgotten about it until my sister said something. I remembered and was real pleased to be able to go back and work with American Home Shield. I don't have to try and find people who could fix the issue, and I don't have to pay them. I pay AHS. Since we’re all staying home, I told all of my quilting friends that I recommend AHS highly. One of my friends already signed up with them in April. I’ve got a couple more that are thinking about it.

We had a problem with the faucet in one of our bathrooms. It was hard to turn on and then it made the pipes go, "mum, mum, mum." But it seems to be working fine now. Whatever the plumber did seemed to have done the trick. So we're satisfied with it. The claim process is pretty straightforward and easy as well. You just go in and you have choices. One of the choices was faucet but I normally think of a faucet as a sink faucet. This is a faucet in a shower so that's the one that was chosen. I've also had experiences with other plumbers here from American Home Shield that I was not at all satisfied with. But I was very satisfied with this guy from Gregory Rossi Plumbing & Heating.
The plumber didn't take that long to evaluate. He said if the whole thing had to be replaced, it could only be replaced with silver. It has a gold fixture. But then he said he’d check if they had a part and when he came back, he said they did. He did his job and came back fairly quickly. He was also very polite and although this was at the beginning of the Coronavirus thing and things hadn't gotten to this level yet, he was very careful about distancing.

Sears came out here twice. The microwave needed to be replaced and the oven heats up but doesn’t stay warm. The guy was super nice and very informative. He was here for quite a while trying to get the oven to work. He waited long enough for the oven to get hot, then he noticed how it wasn’t staying at the temperature. He sat on hold with American Home Shield for well over 20 minutes and said the protocol is they have to email AHS if they wait for too long on the phone. I called back to see what’s happening with the oven and AHS just set up another appointment with Sears on Tuesday. I thought Tuesday was the day the microwave is gonna be installed, but that’s not the case. They’re sending the same guy back out to check something that he already knows does not work.
The microwave that they sent me is all fine and dandy but it’s in the garage. There is no point in it to follow up. I’ve called AHS to see who’s gonna come out here, and the representative could not answer my question. I was going around in circles over and over again. My husband just had a heart attack, so the last thing I’m gonna do is sit on the phone for hours with American Home Shield.
I don’t know what else to do at this point. Now I have a microwave and an oven in my kitchen that don’t work. I’m so confused as to how AHS does business. I run my own business as well and I could never work like this. I don’t understand how nobody knows anything. It’s so frustrating on every level. I'm a real estate agent and I’ve referred American Home Shield many times in my company. But I am not happy with them at all and I will never give their service to any of my clients ever again.

Some expenses like replacing an air conditioning can be very expensive and I would rather have a home warranty that I only have to pay a 100 bucks for if I have to do a full air conditioning replacement or something else. I looked online to see what reviews there were, and I also checked what their coverage was as well as what their rates were. This is my second year with American Home Shield. Recently, my air conditioner was taking too long to cool. I called American Home Shield and put in a claim.
The initial response was that I would hear something within 24 hours and they sent me an email letting me know when the contractor was coming out. They then dispatched A1 Mitchell and they were outstanding and courteous. They came out the next day and they fixed the air conditioner. Now, it works great. They also explained everything, took their time and didn’t try to replace stuff that didn’t need to be replaced. I would highly recommend them.

I've had a lot of ups and downs, but things are better now because now, when I call in, I usually get somebody right away. Last year, if I had questions, I couldn't talk to a real person without a long wait on line, and I was very distressed by that. Also, I have two contracts with American Home Shield. One is for my son who lives across the street from me, and one is for my own house. They come due within 15 days of each other and I normally pay both. I just send them a check or put it on my credit card, but they've been calling me a month before they were due to be renewed. They said that if I renewed on the phone, they would give me a discount for the year, so I did that, but they got them mixed up.
When I got the phone call, I said I didn't want to pay both on my credit card at the same time. I told them that I would I pay the one for my own house in full then I would put one payment on the other one and pay the balance the next month. When the next ones came, I called them and I authorized paying the balance, but it was never charged to my credit card. Instead of paying $500 and something on the credit card, they charged me $1.99 then I got something that said one contract was in danger of being canceled because it wasn't paid. I told them that I paid the first one when they called me and that when the second one called me, I paid one payment then I paid the balance the next month.
The balance never got charged though. I just saw American Home Shield checked it off and I didn't notice it was only $1.99. I then started getting $51 and something taken out of my account. I thought they were charging me twice, so I had to go back and drag out my papers and look to see. That's when I found that instead of charging me $500 and something, they charged me $1.99 on the credit card. Also, I was making payments, and it was on the wrong house. I was very upset and I was not sure I was ever going to renew because it was a pain in the neck.
I also hate, hate, hate to make phone calls, but I hate even more to do anything online, so calling is my option when I need something. Not being able to talk to somebody without a half an hour or 45-minute wait is very distressing if you have a question that you want answered. If you just want a service call, fine. They do that in a hurry now, and they have the people call you, and then you call and make the appointment. American Home Shield has my number because my son doesn't answer his phone unless he knows who's calling and when I do something for his house, I call and make the arrangements. I then have to talk to somebody because I have to tell them to have the contractor call another number and not my number because it's for my son's house. I tell them that I don't know when he's available, so he has to make the appointment.
All in all, there are good things about American Home Shield, and there are horrible things about it. I've had two visits in the last two months, and they've both been excellent without any problems at all. I've been very happy with them. When I called the company, I got the automatic prompt and they said that within 24 hours, I would be contacted. The plumbing company got me the same day. They were very prompt. The guy came and worked on two different things. He fixed a hose bib and another one where I couldn't get a hose off a fixture. I was very happy.

Floyd Services was fantastic. The tech came out the first time and thought it was a capacitor issue, but I just happened to go up to the attic and the AC was blowing in it. I had a nice, cool attic in Texas, which doesn’t happen. I looked at the AC unit and it was just split open at the top. The tech was able to come back out and fixed it under our first case, which was really good. He also immediately practiced social distancing and all that jazz. We didn’t shake hands or anything like that. This was a good experience with American Home Shield but our first experience wasn’t so great. By and large, I'm very happy with AHS and I will renew with them again. My son hates them but I like them. Since I've been in this house, I've had three different companies, like Sears and Choice, before I had AHS, but none of them could provide anybody in as timely a manner as American Home Shield does. They also didn’t cover as many things as American Home Shield does. The fact that American Home Shield covers all of my electronics and stuff is great, too.
One time, I had a claim for my television. As soon as the warranty on it ran out, I lost the backlighting to it. I called AHS and they replaced it without even a blink. I explained to them what was going on then they sent an electrician out and it took a little over a week. I also called AHS to submit a claim recently and I gave their rep a complete list of everything I was having a problem with. I told him that my garage door opener had no power to it, the lights on my ceiling fan as well as the light in the bathroom were strobing, and I had outlets in several places that didn't work.
Initially, AHS sent out a garage door repairman. But I didn't need a garage door person, I needed an electrician. He also said that my problem had nothing to do with my garage door opener. Plus, the garage door opener is new so I knew it wasn't a problem with that. I called back again and told the AHS rep about my issues. Then they sent out an electrician and he was amazing. He was very good and he helped us find where the GFI outlet was which gave power back to the outlets that were down and my garage door opener. He fixed the ceiling fan as well and suggested that there was a short.
He also pointed out to me that I have a Hunter fan, which was in the house when we bought it. He said that it comes with a lifetime warranty and that we didn't have to call them when we have a problem. He said that we could get it fixed by anybody and Hunter would either fix or replace it. We just needed the number off of it but unfortunately, I'm not allowed to take a picture of it up here. My husband's 6'3" though and I need to get on a ladder so he can get the number off of it for me if I need it in the future. But the tech said that he couldn't fix the light in the bathroom because it was not on his list. Apparently, they never included the strobing light in the master bathroom in my list of problems. So when I'm taking a shower, I start out with light then it'll go dark and it'll start strobing. It's like a disco in my bathroom and now, if I want them to come out and fix it, it's gonna cost me another $100.
We would love to speak with you regarding this matter. It is not our intent to cause an inconvenience. We would love to take care of this for you.

I’m satisfied and not satisfied at the same time with American Home Shield. They sent out a plumber for an issue and when he was here, it was a wonderful experience. But then repairs always take a longer time than I thought they would be. Contractors get a part and they come back. But because they need to submit the request to American Home Shield and they need to approve it then get back to the contractors, it takes so long.
I saw the contractor last Thursday, the 30th. Today is almost a week later and I haven't heard from them yet. I’m about to get the next repair and it takes me another week to wait. I've already been living with a broken appliance for like a couple of weeks. Overall, the repairman and woman come and they do their job well. But American Home Shield could do a much better job in assisting customers faster. I’m not satisfied with that part.

Our hot water tank was leaking one time and my wife called in a claim to American Home Shield. Their contractor, J & A South Park LLC went to us in a day or two and their tech replaced the tank. We had a leak in one of the pipes that he installed but he rectified that right away. J & A did excellent work.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for almost 10 years now. They must be doing something right. It's pretty easy making claims to them. They sent out A-US Air Condition of Texas to do some AC repair. It was about three days when somebody came. Because of COVID-19, everybody is more cautious. I wish it was sooner but we live in some pretty crazy times right now. The work done was good and they solved our problem. That’s definitely a plus. It’s starting to get warm, but these few days, it’s been cooling down again. I’m pretty sure that once it’s summer, we’re gonna have hot days so it’s good to get this thing taken care of right now. Overall, they abided by the contractual agreements and they responded fairly quickly.

I called Home Shield for a stove claim and talked with somebody. That was the second time that stove has been worked on and the first time it was fixed. Home Shield needs to investigate the people they send to your house a little bit better. The first guy that they sent to work on it didn't have a clue what was going on. It was worse when they left and I ended up having to pay for it again. I called Home Shield and told them about that. I almost canceled it. I got frustrated about the stove. But the second guy knew what he was doing. Also, he had very good bedside manners and he went right to it. He had to order a part and he followed up on it. The stove is fixed now.

I have a plumbing claim and the contractor said the parts haven't been shipped yet. It’s been over a week and my faucet is still dripping. Every time I wanna take a shower, I have to turn the water on and then turn it back off again. My water bill is gonna be horrendous, I’m sure. The faucet is so old I don’t know why they just didn’t replace it. That way, they’d have all the parts they needed. I’m a little upset because it’s been too long. But I’ve had other problems that Home Shield solved right away. This is just a weird one.

I would highly recommend American Home Shield. I used them years ago when I had my other house and I've been pleased with their service. When I bought this house, I knew I needed some type of warranty. They were the first ones that I thought about and I was glad that they were still in business. My service charges have gone up from $45 to $100, but that’s just so many years ago since I've used them. My last claim was for my smoke detectors. I have tall ceilings and they needed to be replaced since they kept beeping.

Filed my claim on March 12 or 13th 2020 to repair my refrigerator and ice maker. The serviceman came on April 6, 2020. Said he repaired my ice maker. It did not work neither did the refrigerator. He came back on April 13, 2020 and stated he had put the same ice maker back in and not the new one. The new ice maker, he claimed, did not work either plus my refrigerator stopped working. Called the service provider Appliance pro service, inc. on April 16th,17th, 18th and 20th. No answer and no return call. Called AHS on April 23, agent could not reach them. Agent sent an email. No response. Called AHS on April 25, after a long conversation it was decided that I had to pay an additional $75.00 to have my refrigerator repaired and the ice maker. Very poor service on both ends.

The website is a bit annoying because it makes me select what is not applicable for what I needed. The first screen is the one that says the AC or furnace. But other than that, it’s easy to use. I’ve had problems in the past where they weren’t so much, but Outlaws Heating & Air was really responsive. They immediately booked me the next day, so they’ve been really on top of it. I had an appointment booked with them before American Home Shield even texted me saying that my claim was approved. They came out because the air conditioning unit stopped working. The tech put Freon in there, and then that was it. I paid for the additional amount of Freon that wasn’t covered. Outlaws is great. They're probably the only ones I’ll use out here. Everyone else so far has been really awful. But since last year, my experiences with Home Shield have gotten a lot better.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for probably 38 years and they used to be a lot better than they are. The only problem I have now is that they're hiring bad, incompetent people who don't understand what you're talking about even though they're speaking English. Also, they don't listen. I had to make three different phone calls before I got through to place my work order for the garbage disposal. The second service was excellent and the plumber was very professional. He had his mask on, he stayed there and I stayed way away from him. In no time, he discovered what the problem was. He thoroughly checked out the disposal and made sure it wasn't leaking and that it was operating. He said to call him if anything happens.
In the same call, I tried to do appliances. I was gonna cancel a contract and the rep put me through all kinds of stuff. I was totally disgusted and that was not the first time. I got called and I told them to call the tenant. I gave them the number and they assured me that it was in there. It wasn’t. I'm busy, I'm working, and then I gotta tell them to call. They don't even have the number so I have to get the number and call them back and give them the correct number. For the most part, the call center representatives are the pits but you do get some good ones.
I had to make three different phone calls and had to wait over half an hour every time that I was trying to get through. The first and second reps didn't do it and the third one was an American lady. She spoke perfect English, listened to everything I said and I didn't have to repeat anything. That's what I'm used to. They need to hire some people who can speak good English, who are gonna listen to you even if they do speak English, and somebody who's gonna put in the order and make sure it's absolutely correct.
This has been going on for several years now and the last couple of years, it seemed like it's been really bad. American Home Shield has an account executive in a certain area of Florida and she also did our stuff up in Virginia with me. I would call her and in a heartbeat, she could get it resolved. The call center people got to get the work order accurate. I called in for a refrigerator and they put down a stove or a dishwasher. They ask you all kinds of ridiculous questions. Whoever assigns these people needs to train them. This was a major inconvenience trying to get that contract canceled and get that straight. Those were four calls because I had to call the cancellation people because the representatives didn't get it straight. But other than that, the contractors are very good.
I had the appliance service repairman from All Brands. I've been dealing with him for years and they are good too, except that sometimes, they can't get out to you for a week or more. They need to hire contractors who don't accept calls if they can't handle in a week or 10 days. That's bad for All Brands. I ended up calling to get somebody else, which was an inconvenience. The guy who came fixed the ice maker and the dishwasher, and everything was good. But he didn't have on a mask, which kinda bothered me so I stood away from him with my mask.
I have dealt with Air Pro Air Conditioning for 16 years and they are fantastic. They are over the top and I wouldn't have anybody else. They do my kids' properties. They got rentals too and they do those and their homes. They are dependable and they do a good job. Once they come out, you don't have any problems. All Hours Emergency is good too. This man came out Monday. He was outstanding, very professional and he did a very thorough job. I've got three properties and I had all these contracts. I had a townhouse in Ocean City, Maryland, and I had my home in Fairfax, Virginia. Up there, you don't have that many people who are good at trade and you have a lot of people who don't speak English. So, they're not as good as the people here in Florida. Maryland is a resort area and most people who are working there live there year-round and they are not tourists, so they are good too.
I hate every time I have to make a call but I've got to do it because I'm not gonna be trying to do online stuff. I don't bother with that. I wanna make sure somebody understands exactly what I need and what's going on. I can make sure that they got the name, they got the problem and if they got the right part. I would text the tenant and tell them the name of the company, give them the phone number and tell them that they can wait for them to call to make an appointment. Or they could call the company and get the appointment made earlier. A lot of them will and a lot of them just wait.
I do some property manager too part-time, especially for family and friends here in Florida, and I've always recommended American Home Shield. I'm a real estate broker for the last 15 years in Jacksonville. American Home Shield do have some bad contractors and I've been through that before too. When you get a bad contractor and you want a second opinion, depending on who you get on the phone in the call center, they would say that they don't do second opinions. I tell them that I know I can get a second opinion. I also know that if the diagnosis comes back the same, I have to pay the additional deductible fee but if not, then I get to find out exactly what's going on.
I found two crooked ones and reported them. I went through hell trying to get done. That was about 10 years ago but that was really bad. I haven't had to go through that anymore. Just recently, I had a second opinion issue, and I didn't have any problem at all. So, that was good. But overall, I always. When I was up in Virginia, I had at first, Residential, on that property because the woman who was managing it for me said that they got a good deal. Now, I know why, they were absolutely lousy. They will argue with you about this or that, even after the salesman came out and said that the air conditioning had to be replaced. They were gonna fix it. After dealing with them, I know American Home Shield is not perfect but they're the best out there.
Thanks for sharing your detailed warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. If your issue is unresolved, please contact us for assistance. Have a great week.

Sometimes, AHS's service reps are very friendly and the last one was. The one prior to that wasn’t. She was combative with me. I reminded her that I pay her salary and that I’ve been an AHS customer for some time. AHS has one company out of Louisville, Kentucky, which was 70 miles away from where I live. That company came up on a Friday and said that they had fixed the unit. At the time, it appeared that they did. But Friday afternoon, I had problems with the system again. I called them back on a Friday afternoon, expecting that they would send somebody back on Saturday at a minimum, but they told me it would be Monday. This was in the dead of summer. We were in a two-story house in a 90-degree temp with no air conditioning for a total of three days.
When I place a service call, typically, they want me to do everything online, and that’s fine. But I feel there should be a place on that electronic form where I can say, “Don’t send that company from Louisville, Kentucky.” Every time I call AHS for an HVAC issue, they will automatically send the Louisville company and I end up spending anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes on the phone to say, “I told you guys not to send me this company.” I've told them repeatedly that I don’t want those people in my house again. But for some reason, they don’t seem to be able to track that. It also doesn’t make sense for them to send somebody who is 70 miles away when they have other service providers that are in the immediate area.
But generally, I'm very satisfied with AHS. When I had an issue with the air conditioning unit, which was not cooling, someone was scheduled to come out either on the same day or the next day after filing the claim. The technician was very friendly, professional, and did a good job. He observed the CDC’s standards for coronavirus.

My air conditioner wasn’t producing any cold air. We called Home Shield and they said Beaches would call me. Then, I got a text that Beaches would call and they were gonna set up an appointment time. They called me back and I paid Home Shield $75. Beaches replaced a part and they left the part there that they replaced. The unit needed Freon as well. I had to pay them another $80 and I called Home Shield to ask why I had to pay twice. They said that they would look into it and call me back, but they thought that maybe it was for the Freon. But we needed a pound of Freon and I think Home Shield covers a pound of Freon.

We have two AC units and the one upstairs got to the point where it wasn't blowing any air out of the vents at all. We looked in the drain pan and it was full, so we turned off. The guy from Changing Winds was super nice and super professional. He was a one-man show. He blew out the line and he got it to where air was moving. But the drain pan kept filling up with water, so we asked him to come back out that Wednesday. When he blew the line out, he didn't know which unit went to what, which is pretty easy because there are pipes that go to which AC. He didn't know which pipes goes to heat, and he blew out our downstairs unit. It cracked something in that unit, where the pipe started leaking. He vacuumed out the pan but he never fixed it. It reclogged back.
We ended up having to get this other company out on Friday. The tech was awesome. He blew out the line and vacuumed it all out. In two hours, the whole problem was solved. We coulda had him come out and fix it in one shot in the beginning, rather than a week later. American Home Shield did the best they could. But if they were looking at companies to send out, they may have looked to see what the problem was and talked to me, the customer, before they sent that first company. But the second company was awesome. They're a bigger company too with more resources.

Updated on 08/10/2020: I submitted a review back in April about poor customer service. I got contacted by AHS. To their credit they agreed to send me a settlement check for an AC replacement for $1500 (I have several emails attesting to this). They told me I would get it in just 2 weeks. After I didn’t receive it I emailed the customer service rep I was in contact with. She was always very helpful by the way. She said their records said it was in transit. So I said no big deal and I can wait some more. A few weeks ago I emailed her and got no response and have now sent her 4 emails. I also put a note in the AHS email option online. I have not heard back from them. She might be out or not working for them now. But I have no way to connect with anyone. I am currently on hold and it is saying the hold time is 1 hour 50 minutes. I wish they had a better way to send an email but their website doesn’t have any options. I just want the settlement check they promised me.
Original Review: I have a property that I lived in about four months ago and now, I’m renting it up for someone else. I have the warranty from American Home Shield and I’ve had them in the past for other homes as well. I’ve never had an issue but this has been troubling. I have a property management company. They arranged the service call but it seemed like that didn’t fix it, and so, they had another call back. The guy came back and then suddenly, I get a call saying that the repair’s gonna cost me over $2,000 even though I have the warranty with AHS. There were things that were not gonna be covered. I didn’t understand at the time and I hadn’t spoken with any technician. This was just a cold call to me because I have someone managing these things. I said that I would talk with my property manager.
I get another call the next day telling me about my buyout offer. They called me at 7:00 AM California time and I’d just gotten up. I said that I would have to look into it and they said that it was already set and that was their offer. I understand things better now but that’s not sufficient for what has to happen. And more than that, the tech was saying that the buyout cost doesn’t pay for any labor. He was saying that if it was him, he wouldn’t get the fix. I need to change out the whole system. I can get it patched, but I shouldn’t do this because it’s an older system. It could just break down again. So, I had to pony up and get it replaced. I need to know what AHS is willing to help.
I got ahold of someone but they were not able to help me because they said that I’ve already been made a buyout offer. Plus, I was talking with people who are in a foreign country with thick accents. When I called their call center. I asked to be transferred to someone or a supervisor who I could talk with more and that one person said he couldn’t do that. That was the other day and today, the people said they could. Then, I was on hold for an hour and a half, and I eventually hung up because I have other work meetings. I was having a hard time finding where I can send an email on their website but I found a way by googling it. I don’t know if I’m gonna get a response that way though.
I never had an issue with AHS before. I’ve had air conditioner fixes through warranty companies and it worked okay. This could be this particular issue because they said they replaced the part, which was like doing a serious modification to the system. So, they had to get a permit and bring it all up to code, which I don’t understand why things aren’t grandfathered in. It was expensive but the tech told me that what they were offering me was without any labor, which doesn’t make sense. Even if I don’t get the full amount, they should have to add labor to this. So, I’m stuck in a position where I can pay $2,000 to patch it. The technician and an outside opinion were saying that I shouldn’t do that on a 15-year old air conditioner. If it’s gonna cost that much anyway, I might as well spend the extra $2,000 and get a brand-new one with a 10-year warranty.
If the AC breaks down again in six months when it’s still hot in San Antonio, then I have a real problem. I will be paying for the Freon, which apparently, the warranty pays $10 a pound. Freons are now $100 a pound, depending on the given day in the market. So, all that is very expensive. My biggest issue right now is not the coverage but getting to talk with someone who can talk through the options or why their buyout is actually making sense or not. Or at least, come to an agreement about what it is. I’m having a horrific time getting in touch with anyone because on their website, it shows my thing is completed and closed. So, my only option is to accept their buyout or let this tech patch it. AHS has not even talked with me about replacing the system, if I had to replace the whole thing.
The person who called me was great but ever since then, when I call them, I’m calling to a place where they’re having a hard time communicating with me. On Monday, I spoke with someone. I asked to speak with a supervisor and the rep said she would make a note of it and she would call me back. I called today and the guy said there’s no note on the system. So, I would like to lodge a complaint about that. It’s bad customer service. I’ve been on hold for many people on the phone for hours at a time and I’ve asked to speak with supervisors and different things, no one seems to be able to help me. I also got transferred to the Sales Department one time.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I've just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

He found that it was rusted so he went out then I requested for a new equipment. He installed it and was done in half an hour. He was very specific to the task. The contractor told me while he was here that he was gonna recommend a replacement of the microwave since the same problem had occurred. This was the fourth time in a year and the fact that the microwave was 15 years old. But American Home Shield took a long time to decide what they were gonna do. I got several emails from the rep. They were back and forth. They were gonna fix it, they're gonna replace it, they're gonna fix it, then they're gonna replace it, then they're gonna fix it. Then finally, I got somebody who made the decision. After I made a call to the customer retention center, I was able to get the problem resolved. But not until then, nobody else was willing to even listen to what I had to say. This is not the first time that this happened. Seems like I've dealt with this every time I have a repair.
It went on way too long. The problem occurred on April the 2nd and it didn’t get resolved until the very end of April. So we were without our microwave oven for almost an entire month and I don’t cook unless there's a microwave oven. So that wasn’t working out that well. But as far as Greg and Sons went, they were fine. There was another company who came out after the thing was resolved and they installed the new microwave oven. It's the one we had before, so that’s fine. They were very nice, polite and professional.
I've never had any problem with any of the contractors. They were all great. But I had plenty of problems with American Home Shield. We've had them for five years and it's not been a great experience. I don’t find the company very customer-centric. I ran a business myself for 36 years, and it was all about customers. It's pretty obvious that the customer is not top priority at American Home Shield.

American Home Shield has done well as prescribed. They fix our appliances or whatever breaks and we pay them 75 bucks and that’s pretty much it. With contractors, over the years you get a few stinkers. We have them back again and sometimes we've asked for a different one. We've figured out how to make it work for us.
I noticed one thing, and it's not just American Home Shield. AAA does this, too. We live in Austin, Texas, and they send contractors from far away here, not as bad as AAA though. For example, we'll frequently get the first callback from a guy from 35 to 40 miles away instead of choosing a local Austin company. When we call, we request the specific Austin company that has done a good job for us. Instead of just taking a random someone from far away, we say, “We would prefer this contractor.” However, sometimes the contractors aren’t with them anymore.

So, we had to go purchase one over the weekend. But the contractor said that he’s gonna submit everything in. That way, hopefully, we can get that covered and reimbursed from AHS. We are now going on the second year with AHS. We just moved into this house a year ago in April, so we’ve renewed that. And thank goodness we did because of the washer and the dryer. However, it is a little difficult to get a hold of somebody if I call in at AHS. Online is easy to do the service. But when it’s a redo, and I need to talk to somebody, it’s almost a 20 to 30-minute hold time, and every once in a while, we still get hung up on and have to call back and re-wait again.

I kinda thought that if I had the home warranty and if I had a service call, it'd just be $75. But no. I had to pay extra out of my pocket for different things, such as Freon. They said my system had a leak and they put filler in it. They said they would have to do another service call, so I had to pay another $75 and then I had to go without air for a week until they could get back. I said I was gonna be out of money. So they said that they could put some Freon in it and put some sealer on it and they would only charge for the Freon. I was out $240 there plus the $75. I called an air conditioner guy that we knew before we had this home insurance and he said he coulda came out and did that for less than $200 worth. So it made me feel like I was spending too much money on this.

Someone suggested AHS to me and I called and set it up. If I’m calling to sign up, they should give more details on the coverage. I have an older AC and when the guy looked at it, he said that he doubted AHS would even do anything with it because it was so old. I need to check and get in detail of what AHS covers. Other than that, the service has been okay so far.

The first person that American Home Shield sent out told me that the motor that he put in was too big. It had my unit shaking and he said he would be coming back. I asked him twice if he was gonna report it to Total Air and he said yes. So, when Total Air called me for a survey, I said I was not gonna do it when I got this problem going on. I told AHS about the problem so they sent this dude right here out this morning. He said that the reason why the unit was shaking was because somebody didn’t put the screws back in the top of the unit. He said that he couldn’t talk about his employer like that. So, he put some screws in. He revved the motor and he said that the motor was not too big. One person was saying one thing and one person was saying another. So, I told them to forget it. My house is cool and I shouldn't even worry about it. But if anything goes wrong, I’d be calling them back again.
It’s frustrating dealing with these people when the rep could have came out the first time and did the job right. Then I wouldn’t have this problem. The unit is still shaking and it has never done that since I’ve lived here. It just started doing that when this man put this new motor in. But the house is cool and I’m happy with that. I’m just not happy with the unit shaking like that. It’s an old unit anyway so, maybe it'll shake apart and then, AHS has to replace the whole thing. But that would be their fault.
I’ve been with them since February. A girlfriend of mine has it as well as my son-in-law. They were telling me that I needed to get it. So, I thought about it and got it. This was my first claim with AHS and hopefully, it would be my last. I'm not unsatisfied with them but with the people that they sent out, the things that they were telling me and the things that they were doing. AHS did find someone and sent them out. I didn’t have to wait four days. They just jumped on it right then. I told a friend about AHS and she wants the phone number because she said she needs to get it.

I had a claim for the refrigerator and Appliance Equation came out in less than 24 hours. Home Shield's phone service is horrible and submitting claims online is better. I've been with them for less than a year. I don’t know that we will renew with them or we renew with someone else. You can’t get ahold of them on the phone and when you do, I can't understand their customer service people. They have very, very strong accents and are also very unhelpful. Every time I’ve ever had to have a phone conversation, I’m screaming at the end of it because I can’t understand the people and they don’t care. The one time I got ahold of someone, I called straight back to the number that does the approval and the rep was so nice. She was so amazing. But the general customer care number that they send you to is awful and they don’t care.
They don’t resolve issues. I tried to call them multiple times because I wanted to see if there was someone else that we could use. And they don’t regulate prices. We called an air conditioning claim before the refrigerator, but it got fixed a week later because the company they used charged us $125 for Freon. The other companies they contract with charge $95 a pound. That’s a $30 per pound difference and when you need seven pounds, that is a big difference. That is $200 for me because they only cover $10.
I called them several times and advised them that their air conditioning company came out on a Monday but they did not put in the work order with American Home until Thursday. I live in Arizona. The temperature was above 100 every day that week and they left me without AC and did not care. And if they’re gonna contract with agencies, those agencies should all charge the same amount for Freon. We paid a whole heck of a lot more money. And the guy that came out did not know what he was doing. They had to send a different technician out because he didn’t put in the work order. He just let us sit for four days with no AC.
They had to send a second guy out and the guy had the audacity to tell me whoever we had out last time wired our capacitor backwards. Their guy that was sent out on Monday was the last person that touched that capacitor. Like they were trying to put it on whoever we had serviced the AC. That was interesting. But the unit is working again. Home Shield also sent someone out for our pool pump. The company had an extremely bad reputation. It was raining and the tech walked in the backyard. He said the pump was getting rainwater on it that’s why it was damaged. We had someone else come out and they said the pump motor was blown.

Usually once I file a claim, a contractor will call me the next day and they have all been good. When my AC was broken, Advanced Home Services came in. The first time they came, they couldn’t fix it because it was so frozen. They wanted to come back and check to make sure there was no underlying issues and it’s fixed now.

It’s been more than five years and American Home Shield has done more good than bad. The people were great, but these unexpected charges are a little tough to deal with. One time, I was without a water heater close to a month. I called for a plumbing issue and they sent out a guy from Sirius Plumbing. He called us the same day he came and he was professional. He had to replace my water heater and American Home Shield would cover the water heater up to a couple hundred dollars. The rest I would have to pay. Doing it that way, I would have to still pay the technician $1,000 out of my pocket for the new water heater and I was not expecting that.
This last time, the contractor was supposed to replace my thermostat as part of an air conditioner situation, but someone left a message saying that they're gonna have to do all these other things to the air conditioner as well, which totals over $1,000 again. There was a lot more wrong with the air conditioner than they thought but the gentleman that came out and inspected it never mentioned any of the things that they said were wrong with the unit. I was confused because the dude said all I needed was a new thermostat. He didn't say anything about needing Freon and all the other stuff that they called me back about.

Hers & His Plumbing contacted me, set the appointment up, and told me when they would be here.
The guy was here exactly when they said, which was between 8:00 and 9:00, on Wednesday. He contacted me, said he'd be here by 8:00 and got here 8:10. His initial contact with me was very pleasant and professional. Because of the Coronavirus, he wore the appropriate gear and he did not ask to come in my house. He asked me to shut the water heater power off and I did then I turned it back on when he asked me to. I was very pleased and everything went very smoothly.

I made a claim with AHS regarding my heating unit. Someone from Maeser Service Corporation came and he was very thorough. I initially put a claim in for this repair a few weeks prior and I was assigned to some guy that was just an LLC and it was just him on his own. He did not call me within 24 hours. I called him and talking to him, I felt like he was inebriated. He was also supposed to call me on the next day, which was Saturday, to see if he was gonna come that day. But he never called.
I called AHS and they called the contractor. He said he was still gonna show up. But six hours later, I still had not heard from him. It was like 6 o’clock at night on a Saturday night. I called AHS and told them I was gonna cancel this. They said okay. The contractor called me at 8:30 that night and said he was on his way to my house. I told him I was not comfortable with that and that I already canceled with AHS. I started a new claim and that’s when I had Maeser’s. They did a great job. My heating unit is up and running. We just purchased our home in January and we got American Home Shield in February. They covered more than what a lot of the competitors were offering. There were some things that we still have to pay extra for but at the end of the day, the basic coverage was better than most. Submitting a claim is flawless but we’re still on hold with ours. I got one portion fixed, which was the washer but we’re still waiting for the parts for the dishwasher to come in. The claim has been open for probably a month but given the current situation, I’m okay with it because it depends on where they’re getting their parts from. They’ve been very gracious to keep me on point with whatever, with the exception of this part to the dishwasher. But they came out and fixed the washing machine. The technician was very nice, skilled and quick. So, the whole process has been good.

I always like having warranties on my home and I've always had one even when I lived in an apartment. When I thought there was something going on with my washer, I requested for AHS to come to check that out. When I wash a load of clothes, the water would go out into both my bathroom and my tub. But then I had water just running everywhere. I called AHS back to ask if I could add that on to my original request. They said I had to make another claim. I couldn’t add it on to what I had already done.
A nice, young Hispanic man came. He was very professional, courteous, and pleasant. He had his mask on. All my lines had stopped up, which was why the water was running. It didn’t have anywhere to go. He fixed the problem. After he unstopped everything, I didn’t need AHS for the washer anymore. He suggested for me to call back and cancel the claim for the washer, which they had scheduled almost a week later when I called. I called and the lady told me that she canceled the claim.

I had somebody out to look at an issue in January. The tech said that he could do a temporary fix on the problem but the drain in the basement is crushed. This happens a lot in older homes. The guy made a hole so the water is going in into that hole. He said I needed to call a drain company. I can’t leave it like that. I got busy and COVID rolls around.
I called American Home Shield to send out a drain company but nobody has been out here. Now, they set it up again for another plumber to come out. If this plumber does drain, okay. But the plumber hasn’t called me. It's just that they are not responding with any kind of logic on this. Every time I called to talk to somebody, it was somebody in India and they would go, “We don’t do that.” So what do they do? They sent a plumber and that plumber said they needed to send out a drain company. Where’s the drain company? They need to send out a drain company. They cover it but they won't send one out. I called them back. This was two weeks. This was the second phone call. I was on the phone for an hour and a half with them each time. It was ridiculous. I need to call them because I’ve wasted $75. Otherwise, American Home Shield usually is pretty good. I've had other issues and they’ve taken care of them. The issues have been simple though.

The claim was handled well. Advanced Appliance Service came out in a timely manner and fixed everything to my satisfaction. Other than the service call, I didn’t have to pay for anything out of pocket, which is great. I had one toilet that was rocking and almost coming out of the floor. They had to replace the bolts and another one that just wouldn’t stop running. I've always had Advanced Appliances who'd come out with everything and I've never had a problem with them. They have only had plumbing issues in this house since I moved in and they’ve been wonderful every time they’ve come out. I have also had a couple of different guys who have been great every time.
The original home warranty came when I bought the house. It was one of the things that we negotiated in the sale and I've had American Home Shield for two years today. They have some little weird catches in the policy where they should fix something but they don’t though. There was a water pressure issue and you can't tell that the water pressure has an issue until it breaks something, but they wouldn’t fix the things that had broken. They said they don’t fix anything that happened because something was broken, but I wouldn’t have known it was broken without something else breaking. Another thing is that sometimes, I don’t love the $80 service fee that I have to pay if there’s more than one thing going on, but with the age of my home, my HVAC and my hot water heater are gonna go soon, so I'm good with that. I'm just keeping it for when my stuff breaks.

I wanna make sure that I have lots of options available like with coverage and pricing as well. I had gone off the recommendation from one of my neighbors and I looked into different plans. There was a lot of good coverage for the plan that I purchased from American Home Shield. I've been pleased so far. A to Z Electric handled my first claim. I had a broken ceiling fan then a fluorescent light fixture that was broken. I ended up having to get the ceiling fan replaced. But American Home Shield didn't really provide me with options and say, "These are the types of ceiling fans you can choose since the one that you have is no longer available and can't be replaced." They provided a few options to the A to Z Electric then they just found one and said, "We have a ceiling fan for you." They sent me a picture of it and I approved it but I didn't really get to choose. That probably would be my only request if I ever have to use AHS again in the future.

Updated on 07/12/2020: Requested American Home Shield to not renew my service which would renew the end of June 2020. I also advised AHS that I would not sign a new contract that was sent in May. After waiting for 3 weeks to have my AC fixed and had to do it on my own, I did not want to renew and would never want their service again. I spent $450 to fix my ac plus to local repair person. Also $125 to have it checked which was paid to American Home Shield. American Home Shield reimbursed me $250 for the repairs.
Charged for renewal 3 times more than I was paying. Called AHS to have it removed. They advised it was too late to cancel and I explained I did not sign a new contract and had already advised them to cancel my current contract. AHS said they would look into it. Disputing with my credit card. Still waiting on credit back. AHS has long waiting times to talk with someone and are not easily reached.
Original Review: Our A/C went out. Turned claim into American Home Shield. Repair technician came the next day from out of town. Excellent repair technician. Part needed but repair company had to advise American Home Shield who would order the part and ship to them. Day 10 without a/c, called AHS part not ordered. Day 14 without air, AHS had just order part and found out it would be shipped to their repair company who would then set appointment to do the repair. Found out by the time the repair company would have the part and do the repairs would be 21 days without air. Had local company out and repaired within 2 hours for far less than what we paid for 10 months of the AHS plan. Trying to get through to AHS 44 minutes holding to chat.
Plan is not worth the money you pay unless you are fine waiting 3 weeks for repairs. You are better off putting $50 -$60 back a month in savings for repairs. You will have quicker repairs and more than enough for savings for the repairs. If you are providing a warranty company when you sell your home, would recommend paying for the year coverage, just check the warranty company who you purchase to see the repair facilities in your area, and what the policy coverage. I was not able to get my money back for the warranty. Cannot get a representative to get to a manager. They had the audacity to ask for a renewal.

Now, we’re in the pandemic and we’re out of refrigerator for three weeks. When the guy came for the Freon, they left first then came back and said that I needed a compressor. That’s the part that has to be ordered.
I had become frustrated because I was losing food. Freon has started working once the compressor came in. The refrigerator started working and cooling. Then I had three icemakers from that point on and it never made ice. It started working and then it stopped again. All of a sudden, the temperature dropped again. It took seven visits. At this point, once it starts working again, I will have to put food by a neighbor’s house from across the street. I started becoming very inconvenient. The guy was able to resolve the issue because he diagnosed my refrigerator but he couldn't fix it. He wrote it up and sent his diagnosis to American Home Shield and I got everything situated with them. I’m waiting for the new refrigerator to come this May 12th.
One evening, I called American Home Shield and I stayed on the phone for 45 minutes on hold. It was long enough that I actually took a nap. I came back and no one still came to the phone. From that day, I was so angry. The very next morning, I made sure as soon as the lines were open, I would be the first to call somebody because I didn’t even want to deal with the appliance company that was coming over here. I was about ready to terminate my contract with American Home Shield.
Up until this last situation, I had no problems with American Home Shield. It was the best. It’s one bill that I make sure that comes on my direct deposit on top because I want to make sure I’m always covered with the home warranty ‘cause appliances break. That was what was disheartening the whole time. I didn’t understand why it took seen visits. I can understand they're doing what they need to do and protocols are being in place. But at the same time, during this season and what’s going on with us, I suffered when don’t feel like I should have.

I am satisfied with the claim handled by K F Plumbing. The guy that came out did what was needed. Something was wrong with the faucet. When you turn it on, water would shoot up into the ceiling. He put a new faucet and everything was okay. I’m satisfied with it. For the air conditioner however, the contractor wanted us to pay $400 for the coolant to go in the air condition, so we went backward and forward with that. American Home Shield should have paid for it but they refused.
Then Harkins refused to pay for the coolant and I had to end up paying for it. My husband needed the air because he was really ill. He was on oxygen and he would get really hot. We were waiting for them to come and fix it. American Home Shield wouldn’t send anyone out until we agreed to pay the $400 and my husband died waiting for them to come and switch the air condition two days before someone came out.
We have been with American Home Shield for a long, long time. We give them around 970 dollars a year and they refused to pay the $400 to be put in the air condition. It wasn’t our fault because they had sent somebody out last October to fix the air condition, and they had to put coils in and something else in the air condition. They knew they needed those service valves because they see the service valve had ice on it. That’s where it was leaking but Harkins did not complete the job. There was $400 paid for October and it should have still had some in there if they would have done their job right. After this year, I don’t know what I’m going to do if I'm going to continue to stay with American Home Shield or not. As I see it I was not being treated right.
We do apologize for the inconvenience, and would be more than happy to assist in a resolve. We can understand how this has caused an un-easy feeling and would be in touch with you regarding this matter. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

The original air conditioning claim was done online. The heating and air conditioning gentleman came out. He spent a long time going back between the air conditioning issue -- and there was no power. He asked me where my breaker box was. We walked out there and there was a breaker popped. We flipped it and the heat was able to come on. Then he turned the heat off and he went to turn the air on, the same thing occurred. As soon as the air kicked on, it flipped the breaker again. Relatively certain at that point that it wasn’t a heating and air conditioning issue but I had an electrical problem in the panel box. Unfortunately, a service call is 75 bucks for no reason because it wasn’t really for him. It was really an electrical issue.
We submitted the next request and Oldham Country Electrical came out. The technician never did any work other than he troubleshot what the issue was. He got me back up and running and put a new breaker in for me. In my mind, he did exactly what he was supposed to do for the $75 that I paid as far as that copay is. But the bigger issue is that the breaker and box need to be replaced because of its age. It would cost me a whole lot more money and the warranty doesn’t cover it. I’m not made of money, so we haven’t done anything yet ‘cause we can’t afford to do it right now. They do exactly what they say they’re gonna do but at the end of the day, I’m not sure that it really gives me a lot. I don’t see the value, to be quite honest.

My hot water tank started leaking one time. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield who then dispatched a company. However, that company which was dispatched wasn't gonna be able to make it 'til the Thursday after the Sunday when the leak started. I got in contact with AHS who then found someone who was local and who could come right away. The tech was at our location within an hour and within 24 hours, I had hot water again. AHS should dispatch people who are local instead of those who are an hour and a half away. Still, everything went fantastic with my claim.

We live in a desert, so it’s like 120 degrees over here and when I report air conditioning problems, the company American Home Shield hires takes 24 to 48 hours to respond. Other than that, submitting claims is pretty easy and quick. I had a claim for the washing machine. It was flooding the top of the washer and the tech from Sears said it wasn't flushing the softener into the clothes.

My AC was not blowing cold air. The outside breaker switch in the outside unit was off. The contractor turned it on, checked my pressure, checked my Freon, and it was all good. I had a bad experience with American Home Shield last year on a leaking issue. The plumber didn't have the right part and wasn't able to address the issue for another week. American Home Shield said that there was nothing they could do in terms of speeding up the process. If the service person makes a mistake, they should be able to find another service person to fill in. Other than that, it has been fine. It has mostly been pretty smooth.

I’ve had serious issues with AHS in terms of communications and the communication between AHS and contractors. It took me eight phone calls to get the two refrigerators replaced and I was on hold for an hour sometimes. I know a lot of it has to do with coronavirus and, but it has been extremely frustrating. I had a bunch of things hit at the same time, so I was gonna be stressed anyway. But that made it more stressful. My most recent claim was fine though. The contractor arrived on time and replaced the AC's capacitor. He was very professional, personable, and considerate.

Relaxed Heating & Air went to fix the AC but when the house gets to the temperature it's supposed to turn off, the motor outside keeps going. I called them and the guy from the contractor went to my house and he told my daughter it's gonna be $200 for cleaning up the unit, if I approve it, and I said no. So I called my insurance, they told me they cover for the cleaning. They told my daughter if they clean it up, the unit, the motor is gonna stop. So I called another technician from my own, so he can go to clean up the unit. The tech said that cleaning is a fix to the problem because the unit wasn't too bad. He told me he saw units before and they're worse than mine. But the motor continues to turn on so I have to unplug the fuse so the motor would stop. Other than this, AHS so far is working great with me.

We had problems with the pad on one door and the door opening properly on the other. AHS assigned Cornerstone Electric Door for our claim and they came out. They assessed the problem and got the parts. Typically they’re not out here but once a week because they’re from Nashville and I’m in Clarksville. But they got all the parts together, came out the next day and did the repair. It was very quick and professional. They were courteous too.
I’ve had other claims with AHS and there was one that I was not very pleased with. The appliance guy who came out for our refrigerator was very unprofessional and he was throwing a fit like he didn’t want to be there. I was moving in and I was packing. I was missing a couple of knives off my counter. I called in and I complained but they said there was nothing they could do. It was not a very good experience. Another thing with AHS that’s a little inconvenient is not everything happens during the Monday through Friday work hours. Don’t they have people that are readily available and more people to do weekend services?

Some things in this house are brand new and some things were needed to be replaced. First, I had a company come out for my water heater claim. The tech kept thinking it was the cartridges from my master shower. The master shower was Legacy Brass. Legacy Brass is out of business and they're gold-plated and high-end. You can’t find replacement cartridges. I looked all over and went all over the place. I went to Millers Elegant Hardware ‘cause they were the ones that helped me last time and they think it was the hot water heater, and so did I. So, we went back and forth and then I had Kintex come out. Mario sorta fixed it the first time but it lasted for a week or two and then I had the same problem again. Mario then went in and found that it was a ball bearing thing that probably broke off from one of the other pieces. He took that out and it worked a little bit, and then it started getting leaks.
My master plumber said that the water heater was 15 years old and had had it. So, I finally called back and asked AHS to replace it. AHS said that they could only do up to 50 gallons. I need 80 gallons. So, my master plumber said he could probably find an 80-gallon. AHS offered me $630 to give me credit toward it even though I paid $2,300 or something for the installation and the heater and the whole thing. So, it still didn't come near it. He did come out and he replaced it.
My garbage disposal went at the same time and there was water straight through. We had a guy come out to replace my disposal, but it was still dripping from the pipes attached to it. So I had to keep all my stuff out for several days. Finally, my master plumber came over and I had him fix it so the company sent by AHS wouldn't have to come back.
A couple of things in my house were getting older and they needed to be replaced. I paid to have Kintex and the other guy come out and it was a lot of $75 things. Even though it was a month or two months there before I had to call AHS, I kept having the same problem with the same appliance. I was told that they would fix it until they couldn't fix it. I have another water heater that’s 15 years old but so far, it hasn’t been giving me any problems. So, if this big one had leaked, it was freaking me out ‘cause I was afraid this thing was going to leak over and electrocute us or something ‘cause there was a refrigerator next to it in the same closet. So, I’d have to keep paying for the same appliance when we knew that this thing was on its last leg. AHS should also give at least the value of what I would need to replace a thing.
The other thing I do not like is the hold times. It can take forever to get people on the line. Granted Kintex called pretty fast and stuff, but I had to listen to your hold music for a long time sometimes. I also don’t like it when they send out to the Philippines or wherever it is. That’s annoying because they don’t quite understand the stuff.
We did get a few things fixed. When I had a washing machine issue, the first guy that AHS sent out took apart my whole washing machine. When he put it back together, there were pieces on the floor that was supposed to be inside and he never fixed it. But Masco and their tech were amazing. Joey is outrageously good. I have not had one ounce of problem since he came out to fix it. Overall, some things are great and some things are not great.

The first guy who had been fixing the stove three times was coming back and we told the AHS to send somebody else. They sent this guy from Riser Services. He went and he changed the part. And two days later, again, the stove was not working. I called again American Home Shield and they said they were going to send him back. AHS and I were calling him but he was not answering. I was so frustrated that I called American Home Shield to give me back my $75 because I was going to hire somebody else locally but they won't. I have been with AHS since 2012 and this time was a frustration. They hung up on me twice.
I brought the electrician that I was suggesting AHS to hire and I sent them his information because he did a great job. He said the problem was that the techs were coming to change the part but they were not looking at the serial number of the stove. They had to put the correct piece, otherwise it's not gonna work. He looked and he took the serial number. He brought the two burners and the two electrical contacts, and he swapped them. There was another part that the other technician did not change. So he went back, brought the part, and now everything is working. Everything's established, and I was so glad with him. The other technician called me back and said he was out of town and that he is currently available. I informed him that I have already fixed it with somebody that really did a good job.

My experience with them has been carefree and simple. I call them and explain the issue, then they get a tech out. They then send me confirmation and let me know that a tech has been assigned.
A couple of weeks ago, Anywhere Plumbing Repair came out. Their contractor was on time, courteous, and friendly. He looked at the heat trap and cleaned it out. He gave me some tips for the future as far as the maintenance goes. I had a good experience with him. When we kicked the AC on, everything was running fine. It wasn’t leaking at that moment, but I had to call him back out because it was still leaking and the spot had gotten a little bigger. He said that was the first step and that it was common to have it. Instead of trying to tear out and fix a part that’s not broken, you first flush it out and fix the clog, which was the initial issue we found. Then in case if the leak comes back, the issue is that there’s a seal that's leaking.

My mom got me a subscription to American Home Shield for a couple of years ago as a gift. I picked it back up because I have a home and I knew it should be covered. For an AC issue, I got Total Air Care as my contractor. They worked really well with me but it took a while. When they initially came out, I didn’t know that there was a need to have what they called a stepping board going to my unit because it is in the attic. The first time, they weren’t able to go up and look at the air handler. They came out a couple of times but I had to make it safe for them to go up into the attic. After that, they realized there was an electrical problem. It took a little time to get an electrician out here.
There was just a little disconnect between Total Air Care when they called and said they forwarded everything to American Home Shield. I was just waiting. When I called American Home Shield, the technician had to call them back. I don’t know if the information was forwarded. No movement was made on it until I called and they said, “Okay, let me see what’s going on.” But that’s the only thing and it was straightened up, so it was good. American Home Shield was very helpful.
The electrician came and he was nice. Total Air Care then came back out and they were able to fix the unit. It worked well for a couple of days then it stopped blowing cool air so they’re coming back out. I don’t have any issues with the company. Everyone I’ve met has been very friendly and worked with me. They kept following up with me as I was trying to get an electrician out. Everything went really well as far as it could. I just wish the unit would stay fixed.

The tech said it was an electric problem, and worked on that. Then they said it wasn’t the problem, and they sent out an air conditioning man that had two or three people out here. We live in Texas and it’s hot here. With the air conditioner working, it’s a lot better than when it’s not.
I've been with American Home Shield for probably 20 years. I scooted over one time to Best Home Warranty, but then came back to AHS mainly due to their reputation. Apart from having to wait on hold for a really long time, and having to talk to a couple different people once, which is inconvenient, it’s been overall very satisfactory with AHS. We were not happy with the service company that came out before Quality. The guy was unprofessional. He had fixed the dishwasher before, but he had to do it twice because when he came out to fix it, he didn't install the install panel correctly. We had to wait more time for him to come back out and do it again.
Also, at that time, in addition to fixing the dishwasher, there was something going on with our refrigerator. There was a pool equipment, the cooktop, the oven, and then we had an evaporator coil gave out. I had some issues on a prior request where there was confusion on their end or on the service provider’s end regarding a range. Our cooktop kept having problems and they couldn’t figure it out until they finally got the right person out. On the oven claim, the thermal fuse went out ‘cause the temperature had gotten too high in it. Texas Gulf Coast Service Center came out and figured out what was wrong and came back a week later and fixed it. Supreme Plumbing did a good job just like they did before. A piece broke in the toilet bowl area, in the back where the water drawer is. It kept flipping the heavy lid off with the back force. I had to set it off, and then call AHS and have the contractor come out to look at it. The tech had to put a new piece in. He was here for about an hour, and everything was fine. The tech was very friendly. That’s what we liked about him before. He was very professional.

It's been easy to get through to American Home Shield. They've got in contact with the appliance repair people and sent them right out. Liberty came out and replaced the main line for our refrigerator claim. It took a couple of weeks for the tech to get the part in and then it was a while before our schedules matched because I was in a 9:00 to 3:00 in the morning working shift. We finally got our schedules to match up and he came and put the part in. But the second ice maker is still not making the ice. The tech said it might take a couple of days but I gave it about four or five days and it's still not making ice. I called Liberty back and I got a recorded message. I reported it that it was not yet producing ice and on their message, they had said that they were shut down for the Coronavirus.

So far, the experience has been great. I just bought this house and with all this COVID stuff going on, it's hard to get anyone to do anything so it's nice to just call and have someone come out and fix stuff. Home Service Corporation fixed two issues in the toilet. It started rocking so I think it needed to be reseated and then it was running so I had to turn off the water every time I finished using it. I had submitted that claim online and the website was user-friendly. I did it last night and then someone called me this morning. She told me between what time the guy could come then an hour later, he actually called me and said he could show up early. So it's been a great process so far.

The contractor that came out for our AC issue was very nice. I like that he told me things that I can do to avoid that same situation happening. I’ve had him before. Because my unit is in the garage, which is the case for most of the houses in Port Saint Lucie, so when the temperature goes up, we tend to have a condensation problem because there's less airflow in the garage. He’s always been very nice, very helpful and quick. I am very happy with American Home Shield. They are all so much better than the company I had before. I get the service a lot quicker and I like the fact that I only have to pay my deductible and that’s it. And every person that has come out here has always said, “You have a good one.”

American Home Shield sent Lowe’s for an appliance. Everything that they did was great. I would definitely have them back. We are getting ready to end our second year with American Home Shield. The first time, it came with the sale of our house. It’s something that the sellers included. And then we renewed with them because we had had so many issues with our air conditioner the first year that we wanted to stick with somebody that kinda had a history of what was going on with it. When we had an issue with our air conditioner, it took a very long time to have it fixed and I was stressing to AHS that I had a son with asthma and it was hot outside, and our house was getting way too hot. It was out of their control, but I felt like they could have tried to push it a little more than they did especially considering I have a son with asthma.

The AC went out one night. It was making a lot of noise and we shut it off. It's not good when AC goes out in South Florida. I called up Home Shield to make sure it was covered and they said we were. I got a phone call shortly later from the AC company and I tried to get them out that day, but they said they were booked up. It was almost 4:35, but they couldn’t do it. But they said they’d be here the next day between 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock. That was the earliest I could get them. And my wife said that exactly at 12 o'clock, they were here. The tech from AAA All Brands came in and said the fan motor was bad. He took it off and replaced it. When he was finished he put half-pound of Freon in that thing. I thanked him and he went on his way. It was very easy.

Everybody did great. I had a nine-year old clothes washer that failed and Sears diagnosed it. Sears and American Home Shield were really good, and all in all, I've been happy with American Home Shield's service. Everybody that they contract with has been top-notch. Also, American Home Shield is very busy and when the technician recommends a full replacement and our appliance is down, it's very important. If I would just sit back and wait for them, my wife would be really ticked at me. I usually have to call and prod them to get things moved, or else it could be days.
My wife and I know the process takes a bit longer than if we didn't go through a warranty company, but we value the warranty. Plus, if you're replacing something like a fridge or a clothes washer, they're expensive and I'm willing to go through the warranty company for the warranty aspect. We've had several pieces over the years replaced and I learned that I need to prod them. When I get on the phone right away and get them to give me an agreement that they're going to replace the unit and how much they're going to give me, I'm satisfied.

We were selling our house and one of the requests of the buyers was to have the furnace cleaned and certified. I had called a plumber to come and fix another issue that we had. He said that he couldn't certify the furnace or it wouldn't pass. So I called American Home Shield, told them that we needed our furnace cleaned and certified. They said they'd send a representative from the Majestic company and they'd get their determination from them. He came out, took a look at it, and said he could certify anything as long as it would pass. So he did his tests and found out that it was actually working better than I originally thought it was. So we got the situation resolved. The buyers end up buying the house and we're leaving Minnesota for Virginia in a month.
I found out about American Home Shield because the refrigerator in the house that I rented out in Atlanta stopped working on us. I called the rental company and told them what happened and they contacted the owner. Then the owner called me and said that they'd just call American Home Shield and have somebody come out and take a look. They came out and fixed the refrigerator and left. From that minute, I was sold. So I told myself that when I'd buy a house, I would get American Home Shield. So, living here, it's the first time I've ever had to use it. It was a very effective and efficient process. It worked well, easy to use, and the guy they sent to my house was probably one of the best HVAC guys, personality-wise, knowledge-wise, that I've ever met in my life.

We like American Home Shield. It’s fairly easy to use. We had an AC problem, and Legum’s had quoted the price. But then, when we finalized everything, due to the current Corona pandemic, they didn't have the personnel to do it. So, we had somebody else come out. PC Homes ended up fixing it Saturday. There was a delay. But there wasn’t anything AHS could have done.
American Home Shield’s claims process was fairly easy. The only thing is we were unaware of the R-22 issue. We never received any notification that they would only pay $100 per gallon. So we said, “Let’s just get a new unit then.” We paid the money just to have a bare unit put in. We got a new heating and air system. PC Homes quoted it and we accepted it.

I have been with American Home Shield for about 20 years. When I purchased my home my realtor told me about the company. In the beginning the service was excellent. I did not have any problems. In the last year or so the customer service has been TERRIBLE!!! Last month I called to make a payment and my account was debited 14 times. While I was on the phone with the CSR the fraud department from my financial institution called. I stayed on the phone about 2 hours trying to get it corrected. I was told that someone would call me back, no one did. I had to call back about 4 times before I got to speak to a manager and was refunded.
Second problem, A newsletter was sent out last year about freon that is no longer available for AC units, my unit uses that type. I call and inquired about what would happen if I needed it. The CSR sent a company out to check to see if my unit needs to be replaced since I have an older unit, charged me $75.00. I never told them that it wasn't working. It took forever to get that refunded also.
Third problem, today (4/24/20) I requested service online and was assigned a company. I looked up the reviews for this particular company and it has 2.4 stars. I read the reviews and they were not favorable. Several AHS customers said that they had problems this company responding to them or even showing up for the scheduled appointment. AHS rep also called and couldn't get through to cancel an appointment. I called AHS and requested to change the company. I was told that AHS chooses the company!
I am paying my $622 a year, $51.83 monthly and do not get to select who comes to my house after all of these years!!!! I have always requested the same company to service my AC unit. I did so last month. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told that a supervisor would call me back in 30 minutes, well it's been about an hour PLUS I was put on hold then hung up on. If I am a paying customer I want to select who service my home. That's like going to Walmart and being told that I can't select what items to buy with my own money!
With each phone call I have become increasingly agitated because the CSR sometimes are not knowledgeable as in the time I was charged 14 times. As a LONG TIME customer I would like the service that I pay for and I would like to speak to someone on the other end that can efficiently assist me without me being on the phone for 1-2 hours each time I call.
As I previously stated, service was not bad in the being but it has drastically decline to the point where I am looking for another home warranty company. If things change I will be willing to stay since I have been with the company for so long but it comes to the point when customer service makes all of the difference. I have recommended this company to many of my friends over the years but I would not recommend it to anyone today because the customer service is so terrible.

When I first submitted the claim for the garbage disposal, I did the automated process but it wouldn’t let me add a toilet. It would only let me do the garbage disposal. I didn't wanna do that because I would still call in two separate orders and American Home Shield would charge me two service fees. So I called back American Home Shield to let them know I was putting that on one order since it was the plumbing. They told me that I will receive a call in 24 hours to 48 hours, but I got contacted immediately and the representative came after the next day. He was really good. He was very professional and the work was really great. Everything's working fine.
The experience with American Home Shield has been great because every time I had an issue, they sent someone out and we got it resolved. I've recommended them to one of my wife’s coworkers today because he had his unit go out and he didn't have a home warranty. I told him that he shoulda had American Home Shield. We have two condos with them and have always been extremely pleased with the plumbers or appliance repair people they have sent every single time. In the five years we've had them though, the prices have gone up. While I weigh that versus having to buy a thousand-dollar appliance, it would be nice if their warranty was a little less expensive. People who are considering a warranty should understand what they are getting. If there are things that they think are always included, they need to be sure. American Home Shield has tweaked some things since we came on board. Even so, the things that we wanted before are still there on their coverage which is why we stay with them.

Mountaineer Appliance was fantastic. I like that they gave detail for detail, and expectation. They didn't panic and they let me know immediately, "Okay, we diagnose this problem. We're gonna have to order it. It's probably gonna take at least a week or 10 days, if not more." They were very open with all information. And if it was taking longer, they would call me and check up and say, "Hey, it's taking a little bit longer. We just wanna touch base." When it was finished, they called me and said, "Hey, we're hoping that service was good." They were great people all around. I love them.
I've been with American Home Shield for three years, and they’ve gotten better. On the first year we had them, it was hard. The communication with the people that we would call was hard. But over the past couple years, it’s gotten better. The coverage is amazing, too. We're getting ready to put our house in the market and buy a new house, and we're gonna stay with American Home Shield. We're gonna make sure that we keep them. They have been amazing to work with.

It was a compressor issue and A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out first to figure out what the problem was. The tech did so immediately but he doesn’t carry the compressor unit on his truck so they had to send another couple of guys out with a truck. They did that a few days later and they did some upgrades. They also had it to code so that was great. All in all, the guys did a super job. There was no problem and the unit now runs really well.
This might be the second time we had something done. The first time, we rekeyed the house because we had just moved in to the house. So they did rekey then and that was perfect. So American Home Shield was great. When I called them, they set it up and called me back. They keep me informed. I got a call from the AC folks and I also got emails from American Home Shield as well.
Joseph,
I am glad to hear all of your experiences have been pleasant. We look forward to a strong business relationship with you.

Since the spring, I switched from another home warranty that I got with the house to American Home Shield because I liked the pricing better and because I have a new house and I don’t intend to use the warranty that often or have any catastrophic failures. However, when the refrigerator light had stopped for some reason and it wasn’t working, I notified American Home Shield. Mr. Appliance of Mid America came out the day after and the tech took a look at it, then he decided he needed to order a part which was the main light in the fridge. It was about three days later and they contacted me and said he was on his way. He came over and replaced the light and everything works great. This was a little $125 fix, which is fair because I didn’t know what was wrong with it and I didn’t really have time to spend troubleshooting it. It was also my first time calling American Home Shield and it was a good experience.

The last time with American Home Shield, the guy came out and he said he had to go order the part. Two weeks later, I called because the light went off in the water heater again. Two weeks later, I called, and it was the woman in the office and she was a little abrupt. She said, “I’m sorry, he's not gonna be able to get out.” I said, “The water heater has gone out. I tried to fix it and the thing broke. It’s on pilot and I’m afraid it’s leaking gas. And I’d like to have him make sure he gets out today, sometime.” She said she’ll call him but he didn’t come. I called three times that day. We called PG&E to make sure we didn't have a problem. That was on Friday. He came on Monday. She told me he was off all weekend. They were closed. I said, “You’re not a good deal.”
Then, I found out it wasn’t leaking. So I said, “We’ll just deal with it as well as we could.” I called again on Monday and he came out on Tuesday and got it fixed right away. He got the part and went and picked it up. He said he was gonna pick it up on Friday, but he didn’t get it. Only thing I was concerned about was that they didn’t make more of an effort to get out there when I told them I might have a gas leak in my garage.
My husband passed away and I didn’t realize that they were not discontinuing to charge my Home Shield. I forgot how long we’ve been with them but it stopped in August, I believe it was last year. My dishwasher broke so I called them. We managed to work it out so that the guy was able to come out and repair the dishwasher. I paid whatever I had to pay. They said they had sent a notice to my husband, but he was very ill. It automatically went on my Charge Card. AHS has been wonderful to deal with. I’ve recommended them to a couple people and my sister took out a plan.

I went with a microwave which has a fan that was loud and acting terrible for three months. I put in the claim in December. Darien of Darien Clark and Family came out quickly after I put the claim in. I had him come out and he said that a part needed to be ordered. American Home Shield ordered it and they said it was gonna be three months to get it in. It took a really long time.
They said it was on backorder. I asked them if they would just replace it for me, it was gonna be three months, and they were gonna give me $126 for it. I said, "That's ridiculous. I can't get a new microwave for $126. What am I paying for?" They just said, "That's all we'll do." I wasn't happy with that. Then with COVID, I completely understand that things got delayed. I don't fault people for that. I called Darien and he followed up right away. He was like, "They told me that it was gonna be arriving and it didn't." I had to call American Home Shield and be like, "Where is this thing?" Finally, it came, and as soon as he got it, he literally came out the next day and put it in. Darien’s really nice, professional and courteous though. I commend people for working during this time.
There was another issue. This was back in February. My small AC unit was freezing at the bottom. I noticed it and I contacted them, and they sent somebody out from Nashville. The guy that came out said, "It'll be a week, but we'll be out to fix it." And I used the emergency heat. They came out, left, but never tested to make sure that it worked. The next day, it was a warmer day in February. The house was 62 degrees upstairs.
I called the contracting company that came out and they said, "We won't have anybody out there till Monday." I said, "I have my mother here with me that just flew in from Florida and she's 70 years old. This is not acceptable. Not that it’s freezing, but it's cold and it's 30 degrees out right now in my house, and 62 upstairs.” I just paid them to come out. Then they said to me, "We'll see if we can find another contractor to come out," and they did. That person said, "There's no way that they didn't test this before they left because they would've known it wasn't working." But he fixed it.
I called American Home Shield and said, "Don't send me out these people." Then I went in and read the reviews from the original people that came out, and they were terrible. I said that to American Home Shield. I told them, "Why are you contracting with people that are literally saying that they're going through warranty companies and this company is terrible?" They said that's all subjective, but I'm like, "Five reviews saying that people come out that are impaired?" And not only that. This is the guy that came out to my house, in the review, it was his name. It was actually pinpointing the guy.
I'm seriously thinking of just not even paying for the warranty anymore and just getting rid of it. Between the microwave and sending out that contractor, the first one, and then they put it on me, they only contract for certain people. The thing about it is the HVAC people, they only contract people out of Nashville, and I live in Clarksville. That's a 45-minute ride. Why don't they have anybody local? That sends up flags to me too.

There was a leak in the shower and a leak in the toilet in the same bathroom, and my plumbing claim did not turn out as smooth as we had hoped to. It was a four-day ordeal and the toilet was good. That was an easy fix. However, when the guy tried to take a piece off, the shower broke inside the wall and he couldn’t get it out, so he had to remove the tile and cut open the wall to repair that piece. I have not used that shower since the repair, but it looks good. I ended up just getting my entire bathroom redone though.

Express Appliance was the contractor that American Home Shield sent out after we made a claim. That went very well. My wife is really strung up about this virus so she asked if the tech, David, had a face mask. He had one. My wife asked him to put some little hospital footies on his shoes too. His face was like, "Huh? Okay." He took his shoes off and put those footies on. I went out and checked everything. We told him what was going on and he checked it all out.
David saw what the problem was. He had to order a part. He gave me a number to call him directly so I could get a faster return. The part came in on a Friday evening and it was too late to call. I had to call David back Monday. He then scheduled for Friday and said they would come back in between 11:00 and 3:00. 10 minutes to 11:00, I got a text that he was on the way out there. That's pretty good.
David came in, pulled everything out, and got to work. He did it quickly. He checked everything and made sure it worked out. It was fine. He put the footies on and the mask on the second time he came in too. He was with the program now. I was a contractor one time and I went to an Asian man's house and he asked me to take my shoes off before I came out. I was like, "Huh?" I saw the same look on David's face. He was almost surprised at that the same way I was. My wife was saying he didn't wanna put the footies on but I told her that he put them on. It was fine and he did a great job. He was very neat too. If I would have taken things back off and put them, I would have had extra stuff laying all over the floor when I finished. But everything went back perfectly and it looked really good when David finished. I'm totally pleased.
We used American Home Shield a couple of times for a couple of different things and the service was excellent. When we set an appointment for a repairman, he shows up at the time he tells me. I can't ask for any more than that. It would be nice if contractors can come fast because sometimes, I have to wait maybe a week. Sometimes, I couldn't be there at the time they were available.
When something is broken, you want the contractors. I understand they can't necessarily be there the next day but maybe the following week might be a little long in some cases. There was an oven repair and I had to wait almost a week for it. I then had to wait four days for a part to come in. We were without an oven all that time. We may use a grill and the top of the stove. But we don't fry a lot of stuff so we don't use it. As far as baking, we don't use that a whole lot. The other thing was the part had to be shipped. But I understand that has nothing to do with AHS or the repair people. The motherboard needed to come in from wherever it comes in. It's not like the contractor would have that in the truck. But along with the other days that it took, it was a little inconvenient. Otherwise, the service we've had has been good.

I called the plumbing company, they told me to call AHS they can so they come back. AHS called and said we had to replace the whole water heater. I filed a request as to when they will replace and they would let me know and go over there. My call for the LA house took so long. The tenant told me that the plumbing company just stood there for a few minutes and did not touch anything. They said they turned it on but the water is off. Now the unit needs to be replaced as well.
A concern that I have is that AHS didn't send me the invoice but they renewed. The credit card permission to charge was just one time. If for the second year, they have to let me know how much and let me know the invoice, and then continue to charge. But they charged without notice until I checked and saw my credit card record.

The day that I put in the call to American Home Shield, Camden Service Center sent a technician out to see exactly what the problem was and to make sure that the garbage disposal was faulty. They unfortunately didn't have the part on the truck, but it was cool that they came out that day to check it out to see what they needed and what was wrong with it. And then first thing the next morning, they sent a technician out and he repaired it.
We also had an issue with our garage door opener, and American Home Shield's policy is very vague as far as the parts that aren't covered. In the contract, under garage door opener, it says garage door opener parts are not covered. We had a spring that was faulty. I didn't know that was part of the track assembly. So, we had to go through some issues with getting that resolved because we had to pay the $100 fee. Then we had to come out of our pocket $225 to have the door fixed because that spring is part of the track assembly, which is not covered. Speaking with the representative, it's not listed anywhere in the contract specifically. It's just something they know from doing this over and over again. I had to speak to a manager to get it resolved. But we were only able to recoup back $50 of the $100 fee that they had to pay to have a technician come out for something that we didn't know about.
Other than that, AHS has been a tremendous help. Don't do your claims online. You should talk to a representative. Regardless of the warranty company that you have, when you're putting in a service request, don't just do the quick online thing because it doesn't give you any options to list what the problems are. Your best bet is just to call the company direct and not waste $100 service fee for the contractor to come out, and then you're gonna have to come out of pocket again for whatever the cost is gonna be.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing weekend.

The kitchen drain was pretty badly clogged and because the dishwasher couldn't drain properly, it was causing the dishwasher to flood. But now, everything is working fine. Gaithersburg Plumbing came out and I knew that the drain would need to be snaked. But they didn't have a long enough snake. The drain runs under the floor for at least 40 feet so they had to go and access the drain from the crawlspace and then start the snake there. Whenever they have to go in the crawlspace, a company also has to have two technicians, and originally, they sent out one. So we had to wait for another team to arrive so that one person could go into the crawlspace while the other one stayed outside the entry to the crawlspace. From that point on, it took them another hour or so to fix it all.

I’ve used American Home Shield way in the past when I sold real estate. I always use that service to purchase for the new customer and I decided to do it along with my daughter who did it also this year because I’m getting upset with my age. In talking to other people on other plans they have that might not be American Home, American Home is looked at more highly than any of the other plans. I googled it and there are other places that have more stars, but American Home Shield has been around forever, so I felt more confident with going with a company that was experienced. They can only be as good as the people that they send out and the follow-up. I have never used them on a personal basis though. I was never home until recently with the Coronavirus.
Recently, I shut down my pump because it was like a lawn mower that went crazy. It was making a tremendous amount of noise and my pool person told me that it was ready to go. I contacted American Home Shield for my claim and they contacted the pool people. It was easy and I had a great experience with Platinum Pool Care. Initially, I was very concerned because when I pulled up the reviews, it had scary stuff on it. I called them back and told them I’m not comfortable with a company that has such terrible reviews. They talked to me and said to give it a shot. They promised that if I was not happy, they would go another route. I talked to the gentleman on site when he was there, and he said that a lot of times, many of those reviews, which I understand also, can be from that they didn’t have the program or it was a bigger issue, or they were mad about something else.
American Home Shield told me to just work the course and I’m glad I did. My experience with Platinum Pool was really good. They came, assessed the issue and agreed that the pump was ready to falter. The guy knew exactly what my concerns were, discussed a couple other things and put it in forward. He was very knowledgeable. A week later, they got the part then he came right back within five days and put the part in. I’m happy because it went from waking my neighbors up in the morning and all the neighbors complaining to now, my pool is running efficiently.
I also learned from this claim that if you have an appliance that's not working and it has multiple things wrong with it, you need to tell what all those multiple things are upfront. The boxes that you checked don’t have a way to express that. Like in my pool, the guy that came out for the motor was great, but I also had some issues going on with my heater, which they fixed. It was an easy thing, but I had to pay another $100 for him to come back out for the second time. I should have just told them upfront that it’s the heater and the pump, then they could have allotted the amount of time to address both of those issues with the same person. That was my fault, but that wasn’t clearly expressed in the process because American Home almost make it too easy.
I have people come out all the time. I just click on a couple of buttons, but when they ask you what the problem is to assess it, if it’s for the same item, you should let them know every issue and not do it separately, unless you want to get charged. I know now if I have another appliance, I want to be very clear on all the issues that the claim could pertain to, so I don’t have to pay $100 for each time the contractor comes. I also had American Home fix my air conditioning and the contractor knew exactly and he isolated right to the problem. I like that impact, that when you go to the warranty companies, they have people who are specialized in what they do. It’s not like troubleshooters. All they do is fix something that’s broken and that’s good.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Molly. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. If your issue is unresolved, please contact us for assistance. Have a great week.

But they were able to get it within 24 hours. And it was handled pretty well. So, I was pleased. However, it’s been patchy as far as the quality of service of AHS. I have heat pumps in my home and they keep sending out the service engineers that aren’t qualified to work on heat pumps. I’ve been disappointed with their heating and air conditioning services. I would also like faster response times by their vendors because some things can’t wait a couple of days. But overall, for basic things like plumbing, they seem to be okay.

He wasn’t 100% sure whether or not ceiling fans were covered by American Home Shield. The issue is still not resolved. He was gonna go back to American Home Shield to see if it was covered and I have not heard from him or them yet. It's been a week now.

We had an AC issue. The water wasn't dripping outside. It was just collecting at the bottom of the tub that's in there. ES Heat and Air came out. The technician had to undo that tub, took it out, cleaned it out, and there was a big clog in one of the sensors. He cleaned that out and it's been working fine ever since. It's been wonderful. They've delivered the replacements quickly and it hasn't been any problem.

The process of submitting a claim is pretty easy and straightforward. We prefer doing it online because sometimes you just don’t have time to sit on a phone call or wait for somebody to get everything sorted out. We’ve used American Home Shield three times now for refrigerator and AC twice. The AC unit wasn’t cooling and we had had American Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning out here. Our AC is probably gonna go out again because it’s 15 years old. Other than that, it has been pretty straightforward with AHS.

When I moved into the house, everything looked like it worked but there was something wrong with the water. My son is in maintenance so he was putting in a new faucet for me in the kitchen. He had to go turn the water off on the hot water tank and we couldn’t get it turned off. They were frozen in place so they had to replace those turn-off knobs. I called and American Home Shield sent someone out, and everything went great.
A month later, I noticed that when I did my laundry, the toilets would gurgle. Now, this house had been vacant for almost a year and it seems the sewer line was being blocked. I have this great, big tree in the front yard and I was afraid that it was roots. So I called and someone came out. He said it wasn’t roots. It was because the house was vacant for so long and everything in those pipes had dried up and hardened. They took care of that.
I was gonna call American Home Shield and ask them if I could increase my plan to the next level higher because I need my garage door fixed. In fact, I think I’m gonna extend it next year and keep it for another year. I’ll pay for it myself, instead of the sellers, because it’s really a good thing to have. I also have a leak in the faucet out in the front yard but the girl on the phone said that my plan doesn’t cover that. So that is something else I wanna increase the plan for.
My daughter used to have American Home Shield when she bought her house and she recommended them to me. I was real happy when I found out that they’re the ones that covered this house. I’m real pleased with American Home Shield. I’ve been skeptical about insurance companies but this is fantastic. I love it, and $75 is nothing. When the guy told me what it was gonna cost me to fix that little drippy faucet in the front yard, I thought okay but I wish the sellers had paid the other $80 or so and gotten a higher plan. Actually, it was $75 more just to get the full coverage on the house. If I’d have known that, I would have had them extend it before I moved into this house. But you live and learn.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

The fan of my AC went kaput and Wolfpack Mechanical had to replace the fan and the motor. They called me literally within one day, came out the same day. American Home Shield approved it on the weekend and they came out on a Monday morning, and it was done. And the Wolfpack Mechanical is excellent to work with. The technicians were good and their customer service was really good. They were on top of it. They were text messaging me when my appointment was, when they got approval for the part, when they were ready to come out and when they were almost there. They also helped me get some air filters as well. And what I respected most about them was they didn’t take advantage of me and charge me an arm and a leg. They give it to me at their cost, which I was surprised with that during these times, that someone would go above and beyond and do something that they didn’t have to do. Everything is working well now.
We are grateful for the time that you've taken to share you AHS experience. Please let us know if you need any assistance in regards to your warranty. Have a great week.

This is one of the worse customer service experiences I ever have with a company. I have been promised a callback from Grace within 3 minutes, but I was left with a hold time of more than an hour before she chose to hang up my call. I called again (answered by Mark), yet I was again put on hold after a long time and eventually was hung up.
This was not the first time this happened with their representatives. I called in to change the contractor (Relaxed Heating and Air) that was assigned to service our AC, because of their unprofessionalism (canceled an appointment without notification, provided a report different from the on-site visit analysis, delayed reports and communications). However, American Home Shield again reassigned the same company to service. My experience with American Home shield has been extremely frustrating, especially the sessions of long holds and hang-ups. This has been ongoing for more than a month and yet nothing has been resolved. The defective AC/ Furnace will poise a detriment to our health, especially that summer is approaching.

I initially contacted AHS because my air conditioning was not blowing cold air. The tech came out to diagnose the problem, but mentioned that I needed these certain safety features on the pan in the attic (that they could up-charge me for) and that I should call AHS about the hot water heater since I mentioned it hadn't been giving more than a few minutes of hot water. Ultimately, the compressor in the A/C was bad and it was going to cost over $1400 in refrigerant for a 16 year old unit to do the repair, so I opted for a cash-in-lieu for the repair so that I could use a different company for a complete install of a new HVAC system.
In the meantime, AHS sent out another company to look at the hot water heater. The technician's solution was to increase the temperature gauge past 120 F. The hot water heater was 16 years old so I asked about rust, corrosion, sediment, and leaks and how that could affect the amount of hot water I was getting. He brushed off all my concerns and stated "American Home Shield won't repair or replace a hot water heater unless it's actively leaking through the ceiling."
Additionally, they tracked insulation from the attic all over my brand new carpets upstairs and failed to try and keep things clean, even after I told them I had asthma. I called AHS to dispute the diagnosis from the technician and to let them know there was still a problem with the hot water heater. The representative informed me that I would have to pay another service fee to have another company come and look at the hot water heater for a new diagnosis. I then asked how the cash-in-lieu and upgrade services work since I was using that option for the HVAC. The person on the phone told me I could spend the $100 service fee to have another company come out or I could go ahead and have the tank replaced using the same company I contracted for the HVAC installation (non-AHS contractor).
I followed this person's advice and the company found that my hot water heater had significant rust, corrosion and sediment build up so I called AHS to inquire about the process for sending in an invoice for the hot water heater. AHS then informed me that I broke my contract and they wouldn't pay for the hot water heater services, even though I was given advice/instructions from an AHS representative.
The case went through to the escalations department with no resolution and then to the retention department when I requested cancellation. After the case went to escalations, the AHS-plumbing company contacted me late at night to interrogate me about the dispute I made about their hot water heater diagnosis. I called AHS to let them know and the representative didn't understand why I was upset so I continued to work with a representative from the retention department.
In order to keep my account from cancellation, the representative stated they could do an outside authorization for the hot water heater with the diagnosis from the other company I used for the HVAC. I submitted all the required paperwork and then they said the authorization was denied because the HVAC and hot water heater were financed. The cash-in-lieu for the HVAC was approved, but AHS made me jump through every hoop possible and still denied the claim for the hot water heater. They then quoted the diagnosis from the initial AHS-contracted company and stated that as a further reason for denial, even though the diagnosis was disputed and the other reputable company that I used stated what was wrong with the hot water heater (with pictures). I proceeded with cancellation and was charged an "administrative fee" after this whole hassle.
Don't waste your time or money with this company. I used them for for a few years and it has recently gone downhill. The companies they sent to my house were not very reputable and always tried to get me to pay for some other add-on service not covered by AHS. It's more costly/timely to use their contracted services than to find the right company that will do the job right in the first place. If AHS had provided some kind of compensation for the hot water heater and made right by all of the errors in dealing with the various representatives on the phone, I might have stayed with the company a bit longer. Obviously they have enough business that one person cancelling is not a big deal or worth their time. Way to make me feel like a valued customer American Home shield.

American Home Shield sent out a representative as soon as I wrote this review. They sent a new technician from a new company who was able to resolve the issue.
Original Review: April 24, 2020
I had an issue with my HVAC system where I had the technicians come out 4 times (Dec, twice in Jan, once in early February). These technicians never showed up on the proper day or time, would come unannounced with no notice. It was as if they never received appointments so everything written in the system was not accurate. Also, according to my contract, if the issue isn't resolved the 3rd time then the product will be replaced.
Before the 3rd visit, the representative I spoke with (who could hardly speak English) verbally told me they would replace the HVAC the third time with no information about a 30-day period, etc. Well, this clearly didn't happen because they came a fourth time and nothing fixed, instead falsely documented stating the HVAC issue was completed.
The 3rd the technicians came out, they fiddled around and did not know what they were doing. They spent more time asking me personal questions about my home and life - inappropriate. The 4th the technician came out on Feb 13, he walked in and said, "Well I can't hear the problem so once it's on again, just call me". Then he marked the service as completed - which was inaccurate. Given the COVID stuff going on, I was unable to put in a ticket request.
I called to speak with a representative today (who cut me off, spoke over me, etc.) and told me I did not qualify because my 30-day period was over even though I proceeded to tell her the service was never fixed - the technician inaccurately marked it as being complete. This is extremely unfair and yet another was for AHS and their "preferred partners" to make money off consumers. I did some research into this company. They hire for HVAC and they have horrible reviews. Work with better companies who are not dishonest or lazy. I will not be renewing my contract with this horrible company.

I called in regard to a concern with my A/C unit and Anders AC LLC was sent out. The rep./contractor that was sent was racist, would not explain the reasoning for what was needed, and falsified to AHS the amount of Freon needed to complete the job even though he stated to me a totally different number. When I expressed to AHS on how I was treated and disputed the amount of Freon that was needed, I had to call multiple times in order to speak to someone that would help. I ended up speaking with Katie who blacklisted the original company and she sent a second contractor out and he was very professional and took the time to explain everything and also countered the wrong amount of Freon the original company stated was needed.
I was notified by the 2nd company that AHS was refusing them to complete the job as the diagnosis was not changed even though the concern was always about the Freon amount. I even sent AHS the label showing what was needed. I contacted AHS and expressed that Katie blacklisted the company and even though they saw the reasoning behind it, they are forcing me to allow a company that was racist towards me, unethical, and visibly trying to get over on me to complete the job. Showing they do not care about my safety. I expressed to them my concerns and also advised that I filed a complaint against the company and due to those complaint I am worried what risk it may pose to my family.
They offered a payout of $699 for a job I had quoted by the 2nd company as well as another person to be $1800 as they know is undervalued to complete the job. As a customer I feel forced to comply as there is no reason the second company is not able to complete the job but allow a company that is listed to be blacklisted from my home to return. It's been almost 30 days with no resolution and I even expressed I have a asthmatic child in the household with a temperature that is 89 degrees on the outside which places the household at even a higher rate. Unethical practices at its best.

We have a home and things do break in. There might come a time when we don't have the money to pay for repairs fully, so we got a home warranty. American Home Shield was recommended by our siblings and we signed up with them. Recently, the water heater was leaking water and the water was foul. We called American Home Shield and let them know. Then they sent the plumber out and when the plumber walked in, he smelled it, looked at it, and said that it had to be changed. He was good. Also, we just lost hot water on Sunday and he came last Monday to put the new water heater in.

Whirlpool came out and they had their shoes and kept their distance. They cleaned behind themselves. They came out for an appliance issue and they explained it simple enough that I understood. I've used Home Shield for a couple of things that their contractors checked and so far, it’s been satisfactory. Having a home warranty gives a sense of security, even though I pay a premium out every month. When it comes to having something done, big sums of cash at one time don’t have to come out of my pocket. That’s the best thing about it. With everything that's happening, it takes care of that particular problem.

I purchased the Home Shield warranty in early August of last year through a referral from a good friend of mine that has them also. I got it for peace of mind and knowing that if something goes wrong, I didn't have to come out of pocket for large sums of money. Heating and AC units are very expensive to repair. When I request service, I would call my home warranty company and they would contact the service provider who then would contact me to schedule it. Recently, my AC wasn't working. I filed a claim and the contractor gave me a definite date and time than a regular schedule. They came and replaced the compressor in my AC unit. They were very professional and on time. They were out once or twice before for the same issue, but they did a great job.

He found something inside that shouldn’t have been there. He pulled that out and then everything was fine. It took him quite a while to get down in there and find it, but at least we didn’t have to put in a new pump. When I had a piece of drywall that came out and there was water in the bathroom by the shower, I thought I had a leaky pipe. But it ended up being something else. The guy came out and said that there was no leak in the wall. The shower door was leaking and it had to be sealed out. That was pretty quick and easy too.

My tub upstairs was clogged and wouldn’t drain. The faucets behind my washing machine were leaking and my bathtub in my basement was leaking as well. Initially, I went to the AHS portal and did my plumbing claim online. I ended up speaking to an AHS rep because I had a question. Initially, I had put in a claim for my drain outside of my backdoor as it was clogged as well. When I talked to the rep, she told me that would be something that would not be covered because it was outside of the home.
A company came out on Friday, looked at all of my issues, and did nothing. But the tech put on the claim that he had unclogged my bathtub when he had not. When I talked to AHS the following Monday, I was told the bathtub had been denied because it had a hole in it. The rep said that the tech said that he cleared my bathtub. I told her that was a lie and that the bathtub was still not clear. At that point, I didn't want that company coming back because their integrity was not good. I wasn’t satisfied with them. The rep told me that as a homeowner, I had the option of having a second opinion. I ended up with the second company, H & K.
When they came, they were able to unclog my bathtub upstairs. They were very polite and they took care of my issues. But for the basement as well as the faucet, the tech had to come back out. On the first day that he came, he just tightened up the thing. He didn’t think it needed to be changed. But hours later after he left, I went back downstairs and my basement was flooded. There was water everywhere. I called AHS and they put in a request for H & K to come back out. I called them the next morning. About two days later, the tech changed out the faucet behind the sink.
At first, I was little concerned. The tech said that a lot of these houses around here are pretty old and my pipes may be old too. He was concerned about snaking the tub because he wasn’t sure how old my pipes are and he didn’t wanna put a hole in it. He said he was gonna try another method where he put a sponge inside. He used a plunger and he got it cleared out. It’s been draining perfectly since then. I haven’t had an issue with the sinks behind the washing machine leaking again as of yet.
With this whole experience, I felt good initially. When the first company came, the gentleman was very polite. But I felt like what he presented to me was not what he wrote on his paper that he turned in. I was under the impression that certain things were gonna happen that did not happen. Once I talked to American Home Shield at that point, they were basically saying there was nothing they could do. But once I had the second company come out, it was pretty good. It went really well.
The only thing that I wasn’t really clear about, which I talked to the lady rep about, was she told me that if a second company comes out and they have a different result than the first company, I wouldn't have to pay the service fee again. I had several different things. The tech said the same thing about the bathtub but the other three items were not the same. I felt like that should have been enough for me not to pay the $75 again. I disputed that with AHS and the rep said that as a courtesy, she would waive it this time. But I felt like it shouldn’t have been as a courtesy because that’s what it should have been.
If I had four different issues and the second person that came out was able to resolve three of those four issues when the first company said they couldn’t at all, then they have a different result. I should not have had to pay the $75. But that aside, I’d give H & K with a thumbs up. They were very professional. It was a father-and-son duo and they were great.

When I started my pool for the new year, the pump wasn't working. I sent in a claim to American Home Shield and then they got ahold of Shocker and they came out. It was a pretty easy symptom to recognize that the pump wasn't working. It had seen better days. Shocker got ahold of American Home Shield and they got the okay to order a new pump. They brought the new pump out, replaced it in about an hour, and everything was good to go. They did it pretty quickly. I've dealt with Shocker Pools many times being a pool owner. I have a close relationship with those guys and they have been great.
There was one other company I dealt with a couple of years ago that worked with American Home Shield and they weren't so good. But ever since Shocker has been the people that come out, they do a great job. They're really quick. They know what to do right away. So I couldn't be happier with their service and American Home Shield. We purchased the house we're in now a year and a half ago and the deal we got when we bought the home warranty wasn't American Home Shield and the pool wasn't covered. So as soon as that expired, we got ahold of American Home Shield and went back to our trusty warranty company.

However, for example I have faucets, and if these start leaking again and somebody comes back out, I should really be informed of exactly what is gonna occur, if it falls under the previous claim, or if payment’s gonna be taken. I really don’t find out about that until later on down the line. I have to ask instead of somebody just letting me know. There’s no follow-up from AHS and I have to do it myself.
