We had a plumbing issue and Super Rooter came out. The guy was not prepared to do the job. He didn't have the correct equipment so he had to wait until somebody else was done with that equipment and then he came back. It stopped my day.

I like American Home Shield. I was with them a little while before and last year, we re-signed again. So far, things have been good. Recently I had a plumbing issue and their contractor C Mayes Plumbing & Heating. The techs were professional and did a great job. They came in with masks which we put on and they went straight to work.

I had my AC serviced then I was having problems with them cooling and the people that serviced it said that the ACs needed to be replaced. When the company came though, they said that the only way American Home Shield would replace them was if they completely stopped working. The guy had to look at them and said the two of them at the bottom had too much coolant. He said that that’s as bad as not having enough, so he took them out. Something was loose in the mini-split as well and he tightened up a part. So far, they’ve been working good.

The emergency release valve was leaking. I thought it was on the hot water cylinder but it’s actually on the main water supply for the house. Within two days of filing the claim online the technician came. He was friendly and he explained things. He answered my questions and was able to repair it the same day.

The oven on my kitchen stove went out. Once the Sears technician came out, he determined that it was the computer board that runs the oven. Home Shield ordered the board, then the tech came back out and repaired it. He was very professional and very courteous, and I would definitely recommend I use him again. He was here on a Tuesday and I received the board that Thursday, and then he came back the following Tuesday. The oven is working perfect now. I was well satisfied.

I put in a request online for my refrigerator because it was making a sound and then my oven wasn’t working. I've had no issues when I submit claims on Home Shield's website. It's quick. And it gives me the information to where if I don’t hear from the contractor, then I could reach out. But I've dealt with Ashman Appliance before when I had issues with my washing machine and they’re really quick to get back in touch with me. I wasn’t concerned about when they were gonna reach out. And their guy is professional. Even if I didn’t have the home warranty and if I ever drop this home warranty, I will still use them as a company.
My issue with Home Shield is that sometimes when I call, the hold time is ridiculous. If they can get past that, then we would be okay. Also, I wanted to drop them when I was having issues with my air conditioner, but I held in there. My brother has Home Shield as well and he said I'm gonna need it one day and then I won’t have it so I kept it.

I signed up over a year ago with the Home Shield, and we had a company come out here. They replaced my variable speed motor with a standard motor, and they gave me a module that converts the motor into a dual-speed. That failed two months in. Summer was over, and we turned off the AC. Summer started up around April. It got a little warm. I tried to turn the AC on, and it didn’t power on. They came out here and they fixed it right up. The tech was a really nice guy. He was professional, put his little booties on when he walked in the house, and was pretty knowledgeable. It was a great experience. Everything still working all right for the most part. He did say that the first contractor gave me the wrong module, and to take it up with American Home Shield.

My freezer and the cooler part weren't working. The tech from Sears checked the freezer parts and he showed me what the problem was. He found out that the ice built up and no cold air was going to the fridge. He was good and after he was done fixing it, it's working fine. I would recommend Home Shield to all my friends so they will have insurance with them.

I opted not to pay a high premium each month with AHS. Their $100 flat service cost for their contractor to come check out something is a bit rich though. Also, their website doesn't allow me to give any details as to why I am calling. It doesn't allow me to explain so that when they pick a contractor, that guy would be more in tune with what I am looking for. One time, I had a dishwasher issue and I had a plumber who was an ** come out. He asked me if I explained my issue to AHS. I told him that the website only asked if I had a plumbing problem. He said that it was not really a plumbing issue. Another time, my kitchen outlet went out and I submitted a claim online to AHS. Their tech from MC Electric came. He was polite, on time and he did the job. The outlet didn't throw the breaker and so the tech just had to re-trip the breaker and reset it and everything was fine.

I have four contracts with American Home Shield and I've been with them for 22 years. I’ve got several rentals and they cover all of them and my own. Their call waiting is long though, when you call to let them know that you got a problem. But they started a new thing with, “We’ll call you back,” which is good. I like that. There are several other people, but I really like American Home Shield. Murphy’s Home Services were fantastic with every call. We had a microwave replaced. They called to let me know what time they'd be there. When the replacement came out, it was hot-wired so we had to put it in a plug and then install it. I couldn't speak higher about them, really.

AHS's website was very easy as far as its user-friendliness is concerned. I filed a claim when my garbage disposal wasn't working. I had the text tracker, which let me know when to expect the contractor. It told me about his arrival time and where he was at in the city. It was great. He was a very polite, professional, sweet young man. He put in a new garbage disposal, but it's leaking so I have to call him back. AHS was offered to me when I purchased the home in 1997. I was given a couple of months free and once I purchased it, I just kept it. I loved it. It’s worth the service.

Home Shield has excellent customer service. And from that point, it’s no nonsense. You can do it online, you can set up the claims. I did it on a Sunday. There was no customer service involved. I did everything on my own. It was cool. You call them up and it’s done. You gotta pay the 100 bucks, but whatever it is, it is. I could have fixed the issue by myself, but the process was quick. There was a pilot light issue on my water heater. But the company rang, they tried to troubleshoot it for me and I replaced everything correctly, but they were wrong. And then Lindsay Company, the Spanish guy that came out, fixed the problem. He was out forever and he figured it out in 30 minutes. He showed me everything and he did extra work for me for nothing. They did a great job. I've had Home Shield for about a year now and I’m about to renew.

Having a home warranty is very useful but it takes weeks until Home Shield finished the repairs. They should not take that long. Because usually, the contractor comes one time, they diagnose and they order a part, then they ship the part, and then they come and install it. So, if Home Shield could streamline that process, it would be easier. Other than that, submitting the claims is easy. I usually do it online.

Everything went lovely with my electrical claim. My garage would not let down. The motor was on, but it wouldn’t let down and would not let up. When the guy came out, he was nice and professional. He said that all 12 wheels need to be replaced and my garage was all set. He also said that the only thing AHS would cover was the motor and everything else have to come out of my pocket.
I needed my garage down that night so I had to do what I had to do. AHS said they do not pay for the garage to be offset. The only thing they pay for is to reset the motor. That day, it took the guy no more than 15 minutes. He said I would be charged you $20 a wheel, but it would last me about six years. He also said that it will cost about $185 to set the garage door back on track. I paid him 400 cash in total and sent him on his way. On top of that, I paid the $75 fee to cover for the visit because it didn’t help anything else. AHS has always come through. I have never had an issue with them, not even with paying a claim or sending somebody out right away. I’m gonna keep them.

We've always had American Home Shield. They have made adjustments for some of the concerns we had with their service in previous years. Back then, we had issues with communication and not being able to get responses. A lot of that has been taken care of and I really appreciate the technology they have going on. I get emails, updates and text messages. I can also locate and follow my service people from wherever location to my house.
Recently, I submitted a claim for my HVAC unit. The motor went out and it wasn't spinning the fan. May Heating & Air, one of AHS's contractors, came out to do service. The tech came out in a timely manner and had everything needed with him already. He got the issue taken care of in an appropriate amount of time. Everything is working fine now.

I've been with AHS for three years now and I've used their warranty several times. I just go online and do a service request when I have an issue. Then, they find a contractor who will contact me. I had receptacles that stopped working but would sometimes come back on. AHS sent Powell Electric. Their techs came in and found a ground wire that was touching a neutral and fixed that. They got everything running like it's supposed to. I wish I had an AHS warranty a long time ago. A homeowner would spend so much more money fixing things themselves.

We were about nine days with no hot water. I talked to somebody over the phone and the experience was great. The rep was very kind, very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. AHS put the contractor to call me as soon as possible to set an appointment. Everything was smooth and pretty quick. The technicians were very professional, especially with what’s going on now with the COVID-19. They had their masks on. They were very polite and introduced themselves. They went upstairs then came out with the diagnosis. They went out and reached out to AHS and then they came back. They told us exactly the reason why we’re looking at the out-of-pocket expense. But we ended up being happy campers once the water heater was fixed. Immediate Response Plumbing did a good job.

Plumbers Inc. came out for our garbage disposal issue and the nice young man was wonderful. He was efficient, nice, pleasant and he did a great job. I would recommend him to anybody. I also had a dishwasher claim and the guy looked at it and took a bunch of pictures. It doesn't work. I didn't get a response so I called and American Home Shield. Their rep said that the tech's paperwork was not complete so they'd have to contact him. That was on Friday and I waited 'til Tuesday.
I had to call back and ask them what was happening to my dishwasher. Then the rep said she would look it up. She was very nice and tried to help me as much but it was hard to understand her. When she came back, she said that from what she could see, the contractor said that the dishwasher was working fine. The dishwasher does not work fine. You gotta use pliers to turn the knob. The dishes are not clean. They've got scum on them. So, she was going to get back with the contractor and send them back out. That was two days ago and I'm still waiting. Other than that, we really had good experiences with American Home Shield.
Sometimes, some of the people from AHS that I talk to are very hard to understand especially when you are on a cellphone or you’re on the phone I use in the bath. But, they’ve always been pleasant and we’ve always gotten service from them. We did complain about a contractor to them and they don't use that person anymore. So somebody else must have complained too. But the guy who came out to fix the dishwasher seemed fine and he seemed to know what he was doing. I showed him and he took pictures of what the dishwasher looked like when they come out. So for him to says that it was fine, there must be a miscommunication between him and American Home Shield. They've said they're gonna resend them out and I'm still waiting to hear from them.

Any time one buys a pre-existing home, even though you have the homes inspected, you never know what might be undiscovered. So it’s helpful to have something just in case something happens to any of the equipment. When we had an air conditioning unit that wasn’t cooling, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. I received text messages that gave me an anticipated time for the contractor and Airmax came. They replaced a capacitor on the unit and solved the problem pretty quickly. The blowers on my dryer expanded out and I didn't realize it. And when the Atlas tech checked it, he realized that that was a problem. That claim took a long time. Home Shield assigned the job to Mr. Rooter, which is a bad idea. When it comes down to it, I wonder who owns American Home Shield because of the way they do the job referrals. It seems their vendors are under a parent company and they refer to certain companies first who are way overbooked. And then, you have to go through the process of bringing it down to somebody who can give you service in a timely manner. That happens every time. Most of the time, I denied the servicer when they go with the big guys that you see the commercials on TV because they would be like, for instance, Thursday and it's something that's an emergency. And they would say, "Well, I can't come out and look at it until Monday." And you don't have any hot water in your house.
And then, the instance in my kitchen. I got a Moen faucet which has a lifetime warranty on it. Home Shield sent the guy out, who then tried to figure out how he was going to replace my faucet for something of lesser value when all you have to do is call Moen and replace the part. And I had to call Moen myself and get the parts replaced. So then, American Home Shield said that my faucet wasn't covered anymore because of the process. Being a homeowner is the only reason that I stuck with them. If it was on a different circumstance, I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield because I see where they go. It's all just about trying to replace your appliance in your house with a lesser product.

I've been with American Home Shield for over a year and it's easy to do service requests. I do them online or I can call, but's it's faster online. I've had Mr. Appliance out twice this month. One was for my washing machine, and then I had my refrigerator go out. I had everything happen in my house in three weeks. I had a sewage backup. I had an AC go out. They were out for the washing machine that they couldn't repair, so they let the company know right away and I got an email the next day that I could get a new washer. I got it already. It was pretty quick. On my refrigerator, the contractor had to order a part, so it won't be until next week.
American Home Shield could improve on their modification. I have them on a couple of different houses because I have a different house that I pay for a warranty on a rental, and I had a water heater that went out. They replaced the water heater but because the piping was different, they wouldn't pay for the modification. I paid out of pocket quite a bit because the piping was outdated.

I felt that old appliances always need some kind of warranty on them and I decided to give AHS a try. If they weren't gonna be any use to me, I would've gone to the next one. But recently, my washer kept giving us a code 05. It wasn't going through the proper washing cycles. I filed a claim over the internet and it was a smooth process. It asked me a couple of questions and I filled in everything that it asked me. Next thing I knew, it said that they have to assign my claim to someone and that after so many hours, they would contact me. But I ended up contacting them before that timeframe. When the tech came out, he determined that some kind of wire came unplugged from it somehow. Sometimes, it did shake around when it was going to spin cycle but other than that, I couldn't see how that happened. The tech did a professional job. He took care of my situation promptly so I was very satisfied. The washer has been working wonderfully since.

The contractor came out to repair the leak that was under the sink, but it was delayed for about a week, which is kinda bad when you got a leak. When the problem has something to do with water leaks or the refrigerator, AHS needs to have a quicker response. Other than that, I didn’t have any problems. We live in Sierra Vista which is about an hour and a half away from Tucson. We were having problems with the suction in the pool and no one else has any good pool services. AHS recommend Parrothead Pools. Dave. the technician, was amazing and he rapidly provided service. If we call on a Monday, normally, they would ask to be given 24 hours before they could have somebody out here, which we have no problems with. But the technician would sometimes call us that same day to say that he was in the area or that would be here first thing in the morning. He was very communicative with us. He was not only professional but he was knowledgeable about other things in the pool.
The pump had gone out and he had to replace it. He came out and looked at it and figured out that there was an issue in one of the hoses. He fixed it and it's working fine now. We have called him several times. I don't trust the other people. We have two other service people here in town and I won't go to them for anything. Even though my pool was built by Patio Pools, I will not go to anybody else but Dave. AHS did extremely well in contracting someone who was personable and the right person.
We’ve also called American Home Shield for other things. We had another person who came out for the electrical part of the pool. The guy told us that it was unrepairable. He could only work on the upper part of it. We were not satisfied with that so, we called back. We had another person come out but he was not very personable and his service was not up to par. We asked for a second opinion and AHS sent out another person dealing with the electrical in the pool with the switches back there. The guy came, looked at it and fixed it to where it worked.
AHS picks out some good people and some good companies because they hear what people say, which is good and admirable for them. We told our friends about American Home Shield and how it covers the things that they do. It's very self-explanatory in a lot of the things that they have. There was one thing that we had that they didn't cover but it made sense. There are no hidden fees nor clauses. Everything is black and white, which is what we expect.

The guy from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas was the bomb. I opened a ticket on a Sunday and he was there Monday. Prior to him coming out, I told him the problem. He diagnosed it and came to fix it. I love the guy. Prior to that, I opened a ticket for my pool. The heater in my jacuzzi wasn't working. The guy called me and I told him what the issue was. He said he was on his way. But I had to do something for the church. When I came back, he was gone. He didn't even text or call to tell me. He called his company and told them that is was gonna cost $800. He also said that the motherboard was fried because the rodents ate the wires.
AHS rejected the claim because Article 1-3 of the contract said something about rodents. But, I wasn't aware that the rodent was eating the wire. I taped the wires that the rodents ate and bingo. The heater started working again. That 125 was basically for nothing. The contractor didn't try to fix it or tell me that I needed some rat traps down there. It was a bad experience. Prior to that, my refrigerator went out and the issue was a motherboard. I told the guy what the problem was. He then came and fixed it. All in all, AHS has been a good investment for me.

I had a claim with American Home Shield for the air conditioning unit. The evaporator coil was rusted, and the piece was no longer available. Advanced Heating came out and they had to replace that big box thing. I knew the day before what time the technicians were coming. They were here within that timeframe. They called when they were on their way. They were very friendly. They answered the questions that I had. The only thing that they could not answer for me was the warranty on the piece that they put in. Once it's installed, does it have a 3, 5, or 10-year warranty on it? But he did call into the office to get the answer to that question for me. They did not accept credit cards once they got here, so I had to give them a personal check.
Everything is working great since they came out. It has been hot in Mississippi and it has been wonderful having that replaced. With American Home Shield, I like the timely response and the response they'll be getting a claim taken care of. I've heard and read reviews on other companies and I'd heard good reviews on American Home Shield prior to enrolling with them and I like it, and everything that I read lines up with what I have experienced.

I submitted a claim with Home Shield online. I went to the right spots and it answered everything I needed answered. Home Shield then told me that the people would call within 5 to 10 days, and they did. Casey’s Appliance Services came out to check on a dishwasher and see why it wasn’t stopping. It just wasn't turning off. You’d put it on a cycle and it just ran for three or four hours. They put a new heater core in. They were good.

Air Doctor Air Conditioning and Heating, Inc. came to do service when I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. The gentleman who came should've had some boot coverings before coming into my house. He kept coming back in and out. In the past, other companies had that. Still, the tech was professional and he was wearing a mask. He explained what was covered and what wasn't. We had our AC rectified.
Having AHS has been great so far. We had some service back in the fall and at the time, somebody followed up and offered us an expanded contract. I told him that we would be interested in renewing American Shield. Currently, we're not in the position to do that but hopefully, we could renew and then expand our coverage so that when things go awry, we have some protection.
Troy,

Filing my claim with American Home Shield was amazing. I liked the ease of being able to do it online. Island Breeze was out within 12 hours. And that’s really important given the fact that we’re on a stay home order. They were extremely professional with their PPE gear and with their cleanliness. I have a 10-month old in the house, and they came during nap time, and they were extremely quiet, which is hard to do when you’re upstairs working on the AC unit next to my son’s room. They also provided information on how to prevent what had occurred, and I thought that was really helpful. I had two calls back-to-back with them for a different situation, and again, they were extremely professional. It was a different technician. They’re the reason why I’m renewing my American Home Shield. They’re amazing.
My first call with American Home Shield was for a plumber. He ended up cutting a hole in my roof. It was a horrible experience. American Home Shield had to essentially cut me a check to find a contractor to fix it. They worked with me to get me somebody out here to fix it. After Island Breeze, it’s definitely something that not only did I recommend to others, but also, I told my girl friend, who recently bought a home too, “Keep it. Trust me.”

I've been happy with American Home Shield and the technician from A Plus Appliance was okay. I thought he got the microwave issue fixed but I don’t know if it’s gonna do this. He said that it was a fuse and he put one in. He said it could happen because we’re shutting the microwave too hard so we’ve been very gentle with this. But I was trying to defrost some chicken and it just went out again. They came out about a week ago and I just called back in. The rep said that she couldn’t get ahold of them but that they would get ahold of me within the next 48 hours.

Everything went amazing with our recent claim regarding our AC. The contractors were able to get me in on the same day, which I was worried about. It’s springtime. It’s starting to get hot here in Houston, and so I figured they'd be super swamped. And they were, but they still fit us in and it was even in the morning time. They were here at 11:00, and I placed the claim at 7:00. I was super happy with how fast the turnaround time was and also that I was able to pick. I went on at Google and looked at reviews at 5:00 AM when I woke up.
The contractors were so professional and he was very thorough. He checked everything before he finally found what the problem was and replaced it. We just bought this house a few months ago, and he said there was a bunch of blown fuses in the attic where they just kept replacing the fuse when it was really the transformer that was going bad. They just need to replace the transformer and they wouldn’t have to keep replacing the fuses.
He replaced the whole transformer for us so that we wouldn’t keep having this issue, which I felt was over above and beyond. He didn't just do a Band-Aid here. He found the root of the problem and fixed that. This was our third claim with AHS. Something happened to our washer when we were moving it and it wasn’t working when we finally got it all hooked up. The contractors came and fixed our washer. And our bathroom sink started leaking like a month after we moved in, so we had them fix our bathroom sink too.

It's been a good experience with AHS. I had them before when I had a house a few years back. Our refrigerator then went out. I had to put in a claim and AHS replaced our refrigerator. And this time around, I had an equally good experience. The heating element of my oven was going overboard. It was setting the fire alarm off on two occasions, and so I had to put a claim in for it. AHS found the right person for the right job. The contractor was really professional. He came in. He had a mask on the entire time and did the assessment. He figured it out pretty quickly. He ordered the part, went to pick it up, came back and had it installed that afternoon. I had a good experience all around both times.

One contractor came out a long time ago and replaced the part in our furnace. But it failed not long afterward and it failed spectacularly to where it sounded like we were having a fire in the house. It turned out that the wrong motor had been installed so they ended up getting a different part. There were also a couple things related to that but it finally got resolved and it had been working fine since. All in all, I've been happy with their service. Max Appliance came out and had to repair the buttons on the front of my microwave. The tech had to order it and he came and took a picture of the model number. When the pandemic happened, he had to order it and so it took him a little bit longer than normal. He's been to our house before to do a repair on something else, and he did it within 10 minutes. He was very friendly and we kept our distance. I would talk to him while he was doing the repair, and I just asked him questions and he answered them.
My first claim with American Home Shield didn't go so well though. I went over month without drying our clothes. And the second time, our dryer messed up again. I told them American Home Shield that whoever was recommended the first time didn't know what he was doing. He finally fixed it and then we had a problem again because a hole got punctured in the tub of the dryer and it was ripping our clothes apart when we dried it, Max came out and their guy fixed it. They replaced the whole tub. Max has been here probably three times and I have no complaints with them.

Using American Home Shield's online platform for submitting claims is difficult. One time, my husband and I tried to file a claim for one of our systems at home. Every time we would call AHS, their reps would tell us "Do this online. Do this online". We filed our claim online and somehow, their system says we filed it incorrectly. They sent the wrong technician out and the tech who came said that their company does not work on my issue. AHS then said that our claim was closed and that we filed it wrong so we don't get a refund of our $75. We would have to pay another $75 if we wanted somebody else to come out.
We've had their contractors out for our dishwasher, and our washing machine. There was also a leak under my faucet one time and that concern didn't get resolved. The tech just tightened the disposal and then didn't get back to me. Most recently, one of their contractors, AA Dependable Appliance Service, came to service the ice maker on my freezer. Austin, our regular tech from there has been great. He always shows us everything that's broken and explains everything to us. He shows us how to reset things if something goes wonky. He was very quick and quiet. With this last claim, AHS did well for us.

I called AHS on a Sunday when it happened and the plumber was out on Monday He discovered that the toilet bolts were a little loose. It could've happened where there was a small leak around the wax frame and then leaked through the vent. He tightened everything up. It was a pretty quick service and everything was done that day. Hopefully, it addressed the issue but I'll have to wait and see if I get any more calls. I've been with AHS since February of 2017 and like having some peace of mind. I'm out of state and chose not to sell the house right away. It's a first-time rental for me and I'm not well connected. Hopwood Electric came out and they did a great job. The tech was a great guy. He was really sweet, took care of me, fixed the issue and was quick and efficient. I knew what the issue was. I just had a plug that gotten old and I also had a light fixture that needed to be replaced. And I had already purchased the unit that matched next to us. He explained to me that it wouldn’t be under warranty because I bought it, but then the repair was under warranty.
This is my first year. I'm coming up on my renewal. It’s been great, so far. I'm in the middle of a little issue right now. I'm waiting on someone to call me back, a different workman for a different claim - for my air conditioning unit. I was having a condensation drip out of my emergency condensation thing out at the side of my house. Home Shield sent someone out and he looked it all over. He walked in my house and was like, “Oh, you got a really nice house.” And I said, “Well, thank you.” And then he started asking me about my artwork and he asked me too many weird questions like, “What kind of finish is that on the wall?” It was sweet but then a little creepy, but whatever.
We went upstairs and I showed the unit and where the drip was. And he said, “Oh, this is a really old unit,” and immediately started, “Oh, we gotta get this,” and “We need this.” And he started looking at this long list of stuff. Then they sent me a bill saying, “Oh, well, we need to replace your air conditioning coil which will take care of the leak problem, but you’re also low on Freon, blah, blah, blah.” So, they gave me this big, long laundry list of things and it ended up that it would cost me also $2,000 for them to replace the coil, and add Freon. So, I called my guy because he always did my repairs. I said, “Look. I'm happy to pay you. Just come look at this. Look at this list of things and tell me if anything needs to be done.” And he looked at the list and started laughing. He said, “This does not need to be done. I’ll fix your machine right now. It’s gonna cost you 200 bucks,” and he did it.
The bottom line is I was not low on Freon. There wasn’t a Freon leak. I had too much Freon. He had to bleed some out. So, that’s a huge mistake right there on the tech. And he listed all these things that my machine needed to come up to code. But I'm not replacing my unit, so the code doesn’t have to be met. There was really a laundry list of things like replace a copper wire. My guy said, “Here’s the copper wire. It doesn’t have to be replaced. He just had to put it back on. He doesn’t need to buy a new one.” He said something about the whole AC unit needed to be lifted up on a new kind of lift kit. And my guy said, “No, it doesn’t. It’s fine. It’s been on this lift kit. If you replace the unit, you would have to change it out but you wouldn’t need the kit. You would just need to drop.”
I already called and spoke to a really sweet girl at American Home Shield and she said, “You know what? I'm gonna talk to my supervisor about it and I’ll call you back.” I'm waiting to make sure that this all works out okay, and maybe I won’t use that plumber anymore. I also have one other thing I'm still working on - Home Shield offered to replaced my cooktop and it’s a lowball bid. I didn’t realize it until I had called around and started to look to see what it would cost to replace it. Home Shield offered me $1,000, which at the time I thought was great. But then when I started looking it up, the least expensive unit I could find that will fit in my dimensions and be even lesser than what I have but a bit better than what they were offering is almost $1,000 more.
I love Home Shield. They have been great. They all come out and they fixed my dryer, and they've been so generous with the repairs. All they can do is go on what that AC guy told them and he said the coils needed to be replaced and all this work needed to be done, but it didn’t. So, I'm just waiting on that to come back. Home Shield has been so helpful. Right now, of course, it’s hard to get in touch with them. But it wasn’t before. It’s just because of what’s going on right now. I'm planning on renewing and I'm gonna add my swimming pool next time.
35 years ago, I worked for a home builder here in Dallas and whenever we would sell a new house, he would give them American Home Shield. He would buy the warranty and give it to them for the first year. We’ll probably move in a couple years and I’ll get it again on the new house and leave this one for whoever buys this house and hopefully they’ll renew it also.

American Home Shield has really gone out and taken care of everything. But the situation in my rental property didn’t go so well with a plumbing leak that I had. The contracting company only did what American Home Shield would allow them to do. AHS said that it wasn’t covered because it should have been done during the time when I had the tile put in. But that was not true because the contract said that if we had problems, even if it was an improper installation, even if it happened before you got the contract or doing the contract, it was still covered. I pointed that out but I was talking to someone in the Philippines and I got nowhere. It was awful. I’m having to do some more research and even maybe litigations to try to get this issue resolved.

In our first year that we had American Home Shield, we had a pretty rough experience but we've held on. I just renewed for our fourth year and it's been great since. In fact, our most recent claim was a really good experience and I really appreciated it. When the guy from Cooper Perry Plumbing came in, he had his mask on which is something I had asked about because we have a newborn. So it's extra precaution. But he had all his stuff up and was very conscious not to lean on or touch anything. I didn't ask him not to but I noticed he seemed to be aware of all that. It was a tub faucet that was leaking and he came up. He told me it would be probably an hour or so. He was gonna shut the water off. He had to take the part out to take it back to a place to match it with the cartridge unit. Then he came back and did the swap. He didn't leave a mess. It was a very nice, stress-free, good experience. They company had also called ahead of time and followed up.

C & P Plumbing did a great job. The tech came out and got the work done. He figured out what the problem was and he didn’t stop until he solved the issue. He had also walked me through what the issue was. He even showed me the part that was broken. He also had his gloves, his mask and his booties. He was fully dressed. Having the warranty is very important. I don’t use the service that much but so far, I’ve had no problem with American Home Shield.

I filed an AC claim online and Smokey’s Garage Door was out extremely quick. There are times with air conditioning in Phoenix where it’s not necessarily a quick response, but that was pretty immediate. And the contractor was extremely professional, effective, and efficient. If I were to choose one myself, not being recommended to use, I would choose them again.

I had a bathroom shower handle that wasn't controlling temperature correctly. I filed a claim to American Home Shield and I was called within an hour of my claim being filed. One of their contractors called Advanced Home Services came and looked at the handle. They were able to get the parts needed and said that they'd have the water shut off to my building. Within the next three days, they came and fixed the handle. It was quick and easy. The handle works well and I use it every day. Every time I've called AHS, may it be a AC problem or a plumbing problem, it has gotten fixed with minimal pushback.

Since 01/20/20 I've dealt with dishwasher issues, AHS has sent a technician 7 times, have replaced several parts, and still my dishwasher is not working properly; the original problem was fixed, no draining, but new problems have come up resulting from the repairs made, leaking. No one has taken care of my case seriously. I've been waiting for them for 4 weeks to come back and replace another part. I haven't canceled the service because my problem is not fixed yet. Replace the dishwasher is the least you can do!!!! Terrible service, worst warranty ever!!!!

I called in my request for service on my refrigerator on 4/21/20. After calling back to ask the status they had me call Fidelity Appliance, who could not get to me until 4/24/20. I explained that my food had gone bad and that I needed a tech sooner. I explained that I have 4 children and a 2 month old in the home & it is imperative that I have a fridge that is working. They then gave me ABM Appliance, the tech was able to come on 4/23/20. He said the fridge needed Freon & that he didn't do that. They would need to send another company. The tech did not even pull the fridge out from the wall & check any of the mechanics. Again I had to call AHSW & request another company. When I spoke with them on 4/23/20 & 4/24/20 they stated that ABM had not contacted them with this information & they could not do anything until they received this information from ABM.
I called back again on 4/24/20, they had received the information from ABM & assigned ALFA appliance. I spoke with ALFA appliance & they could not get to me until 4/27/20 between 2pm - 6pm. The tech arrived timely & did his check, he stated that we needed a compressor. He explained that they would need to submit to AHSW for approval, & once they had the approval it would take 5 to 10 business days to receive the compressor. I then called AHSW on 4/29/20 to get a "status update". I was told that ALFA appliance did not call in the information on the refrigerator & AHSW was waiting for this. The AHSW clerk Trish, even called the ALFA & asked why it hadn't been sent & they were told they were waiting for the tech to give the office the details. Trish called ALFA, & she stated that she was told ALFA would call in the information the same day 4/20/20.
I asked to speak to the Customer Complaint department & was told that AHSW does not have a Complaint department. I then called back to speak to someone about my complaint & was put on hold for 1 hr & 54 mins & still no resolution. Today is 4/30/20, I placed my call to AHSW again & Joan stated that AHSW was still waiting for ALFA appliance to call with the information. Joan called ALFA appliance while she placed me on hold. Joan spoke to the office manager at ALFA who told her the compressor had been ordered on 4/28/20, & that is would take 5 to 10 business days for the part to arrive & they would call to schedule an appointment when they receive the compressor. I asked why this information wasn't in my file? AHSW knew nothing about ALFA ordering the part. I explained the issues I have had & length of time this is taking to get my fridge repaired is absolutely ridiculous.
I called in a claim on 4/21/20 do to a fridge not working and it will not be repaired for possibly 19 days? I am really disappointed in American Home Shield Warranty & I am researching other Home Warranty companies as I will not stay with AHSW. Please DO NOT use American Home Shield Warranty, I would hate for anyone else to have to go through the aggravation, wasted time sitting on hold, being given the run around & waiting 3 weeks for a resolution to the issue. I also had sent 2 emails to AHSW with my complaint & have never received a response. It is very apparent that AHSW DOES NOT CARE about their customers. After this review, I will be reporting American Home Shield Warranty to the BBB.
Thank you for your feedback. We do apologize for the delay in servicing your refrigerator. We would love to speak with you regarding this issue. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further in this matter.

Our upstairs air conditioning went out. The contractor that came out was great. The tech called me the night before the service and let me know when he would be coming the next day. Then he called me half an hour before he came. So it went pretty smooth. It looked like we had a small electrical fire behind the air conditioner where the few cables come together. We switched out those cables and then we also needed some coolant. We've been blasting the air conditioning upstairs. I have submitted my claims online with AHS and their website always works out pretty easy. It give me a timeframe when to expect the contractors out. Dakota Lock and Key was quick but the plumbing claim took forever. I was literally without water for almost close to three and a half weeks. That’s the amount of time it took for them to decide on a company because I’m sure that they were diddling with the price. American Home Shield didn't wanna pay for some things. For 75 bucks, American Home Shield will have people come out and fix just about anything, but nothing expensive. They came out and fixed my microwave, my toilet and my outdoor faucets. Both of them were bad. When my outdoor faucet would not turn on at all, I had Blue Star Plumbing come out and they did that. They said they couldn't fix it on the outside, so they had to go inside and cut a hole in my sheetrock so that they could go at it from that angle. They then said they were going to send out someone to fix my sheetrock. It's not another fee because it was the same thing. I got an email and I thought they were gonna do that, but they didn't, so I called American Home Shield. I told them they were supposed to come send and someone out to fix the sheetrock that Blue Star Plumbing had to take apart and they said yes. They sent someone out and I didn't have to pay another 75, even though it was a different company.
I do claims online and the website is great. They tell me someone will get back to me in two to three business days. When it comes to something they want to fix, I get a text from the company in two hours max and they come out the next day. If it’s something they don't want to fix, it's different. For example, when you submit an air conditioning thing on a Friday, they won’t have anyone contact you ‘til Wednesday then you have to pay for it yourself. They'll also try to string you along until you figure out you’re going to do it yourself.
I live in Texas and it’s freaking hot. When I had a problem with my air conditioner last summer, it was three days. We had to get a hotel room and wait for the contractor to come out. When they finally did, they said we had to get a new compressor and that it would be 10 days. Instead of saying they couldn't fix it, which would have then made them have to buy me something to replace it, they just said they would come back out in four days and they would try something else. It was 110 degrees. They also kept sending and sending people out. I called them and finally, someone said they're not going to fix it. They can’t do it that way and they know that. I ended up spending 20 grand to fix the problem myself.
The contract is coming up for renewal and I wasn't happy with the way they did the air conditioning thing with me, so I signed with another company. They don't do toilets though, so I had American Home Shield come out before my contract expired and for 75 bucks, they fixed both of my toilets that were leaking. They're more expensive than the other two companies I looked at too, but you get toilet coverage. Other than the air conditioning experience, I’ve been very pleased.

We called in for an electric claim and American Home Shield called somebody out. When he came in here, he started to look things up but he didn't really fix anything. Then he went out because he had to work in the company. When I called the company, I asked them why the guy did not do anything. They said that he was not allowed to go to the place. But if he had to go a ceiling or to the box for the electric, he could be able to go to with no problem. Then I called AHS back and the last person they called and came into the house did a good job. He fixed my bathroom light.
Later on, I called the company because my electricity was shut off in the kitchen and they go into the box. This time, I told this guy who answered the phone that I was reporting the same issue. Then they said that they were gonna call the company who could fix it and then they wanted to charge me $100 because the company came out and fixed it already. I told them that the $100 was supposed to be paid before.
I was planning to renew American Home Shield. I called up to explain to them the things that they can do. Now, I wanted them to explain to me what I had now and when they could be able to have and how much it would cost it. Then the person who answered the phone told me that I wouldn't be able to renew the contract because I wouldn't pay the $100. When I called up before to make the report on why they decided to see me a bill, I explained to them that the person told me that the $100 was supposed to be paid at that time. Then they looked at it on the computer and they saw that I was right. Other than that, American Home Shield did okay because they did it faster. The last time when I called about the furnace, I called the guy in the morning and then two hours later he was coming.

The plumbing guy has been great. We had a water leak that we thought was associated with the toilet and Thomas Brothers called me back right away, probably less than eight hours. They got out to the site very quickly and analyzed the problem. But then they called American Home Shield for approval and were on hold for an hour plus. They also tried to call the regional guy. But they did not get approval when they were on-site so they had to leave rather than just sit around.
I called American Home last night and told them what was going on. The lady I talked to sent Thomas Brothers an email last night and Thomas Brothers called me this morning. They told me that they didn’t have a great experience because at first, American Home said I do not have the proper coverage then all of a sudden, they realized I do have it. Thomas Brothers said they were on the phone for quite a while. But they finally got approval to fix the problem and they have scheduled an appointment to go out there tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM and get it fixed. So my experience was fine but it doesn’t sound like the vendor, Thomas Brothers, had a lot of great experience with American Home.
American Home needs to have a better system to give the contractor approval much more quickly than have them make phone calls and sit on hold for 45 minutes or an hour. That seems kinda ridiculous. The guy could have fixed it right then and there but now, he gotta go back. I'm sure American Home is getting charged for two visits now, right? So everyone would have saved money and it would have been a better experience all around if the guy could have gotten his approval right away.

I was getting my AC checked before I turned it on for the summer through AHS's contractor, Hanson Mechanical. The crew had some problems and had to get a part. When they fixed it, the air that night and at about 2:30 the following morning was freezing. It was so cold that I had to put the heat on. The heat wasn't working so I had to call them back again and told them something wasn't right. They came again the following Tuesday and the tech told me that there was a wire switch issue. He fixed that and everything is okay now.
While AHS is a little expensive, when I call them for checks, there are no problems. Their techs check on my unit and make sure everything is okay. I’m quite thrilled that I called when I did and got everything transferred from Snappy Plumbing to Thomas Brothers because they did a wonderful job. They sent two gentlemen and when they came, I was told that I was lucky I called that day, otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to get me in until after over a week.
I had two leaking toilets, one between the bowl and the tank. It was a really bad toilet, but they totally replaced it. Also, the cold water did not want to turn on so they replaced the faucet. That was in the top bathroom My toilet down in the basement was leaking between the bowl and the floor. It was not set right. They took that off, replaced the seal underneath, and replaced the guts in the tank, which were rusting. They also had to replace my 30-year old hot water tank because they couldn’t get the parts for it. They were for a total of about four hours. I called back and within a day, another service person came out and diagnosed it, came out the next day and got that fixed. So, even though it wasn’t fixed immediately, they were really prompt about getting it taken care of for me. I was happy with the service.

I like American Home Shield's pricing and that they have an assurance that they would cover high-end appliances. I had an issue with the spa and they wanted to send The Pool Specialist out again. But they told me they don’t deal with the spa so, I never heard back from them. I had to hire someone on my own to come and take a look at that.
When AHS cannot find an appropriate person, there’s an extensive amount of time loss and I think there’s a little bit of a knowledge issue in exactly what we need someone for. It seems they only have a limited number of contracted people. They try to put too many items under one person and it limits what kind of service we get on our end. I had to do some research on who to call for the spa. It was a covered item and I ended up paying that out of pocket. It takes me a significant amount of time, given my schedule, to call AHS for the approval. This also happened when I did a boiler. They didn’t have anybody specific with the boiler so, it took me probably two months to get that looked at.

He also fixed the dishwasher.

In case I have problems, I had gotten AHS. When my toilet kept running, I called them and everything was automated. They then sent me an email and told me who the contractor was. They also gave me the contractor's phone number, but then the contractor called me and told me when they could set up an appointment. The guy came the next day and he was very professional.

The faucet started leaking all of a sudden and I raised a call with American Home Shield. Drain Masters was assigned for that call. Once the technician came to identify the issue, he came to know that the leakage is from the faucet. The faucet is not yet replaced but I have been told by Drain Masters that they’ll be scheduling an appointment today.
I’m really satisfied with American Home Shield. So far, I have raised 3 claims. One is for the air con leakage and I’m fully satisfied with that. The other one which I have raised for the plumbing work, when I registered the claim, instead of selecting as faucet, I selected leakage. But I clearly mentioned in the description saying the leakage is from the sink. The engineer came and said, "You didn’t mention it is from the faucet so you need to raise a separate claim for that.” So, it’s kind of additional $109 for me. I would have handled it as a single claim, but instead of that, I handled it through two claims.

When we first started using American Home Shield's service, it was very good. Their rep gave me an introduction of what the service is and what it covers. he told me what to expect and what the warranty does with this and that. There was a time when I got my washing machine connected and started using my water but then the water wouldn't go down. It was only going down slowly. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and their contractor came with their snakes. Something had gotten stuck into one of my pipes and one of the techs got it out. However, he made a mess of my basement. Now, my carpet and everything down there is stained and I'm not happy about that.
Plus, that contractor charged 200 and something dollars when I didn't feel that they did the things that they needed to do in order to resolve my issue. They didn't even find out where the plumbing system was going and how far that system goes into my house. They messed up my rug and I went down to get stuff for myself later on from the city. The contract didn't even offer to do that. Instead, they wanted to charge me.
For the latest part of the plumbing claim, I called AHS again because I was hearing a little dripping sound in my ceiling. I bought an infrared gun which shows me different temperatures. I was looking at the places where I was hearing drops but then I didn't see water damage, swelling, or discoloration. I went to the bathroom and the gun showed me the heat but there was one blue spot which would indicate that there was water there. However, that spot wasn't changing or flowing. The guy sent by Home Shield told me that there could have been a hole there and someone covered it up and painted it. He asked me how long the issue had been going on and I told him it had already been two weeks. He said that within two weeks, I would have seen that spot either dripping or it would have been puffed up.
The tech told me that a lot of times in homes with PVC pipes, water pressure may be ticking on something and the water would sound like it's dripping but it's not. I paid him $70 for his time but he didn't do anything. Still, he gave me assurance that I'm fine. This was different from the previous plumbing thing that their other contractor did. I felt like I was snaked by that person. I thought that plumber would have at least put stuff down to make sure that water wouldn't get through. Now, my carpet is jacked.
More recently, I saw some ants at my place and took a video of the critters. I went online and saw something that looked like a termite. That was when I got something from American Home Shield saying that they now had Terminix Pest. I called them and they had someone come out to do an inspection to see what types of services they could give men. The person who came made me aware that Terminix was a one time offer with American Home Shield when initially I thought it was multiple.
When their tech came out, I showed him the video and he told me that what I had were ants and not termites. I was really happy about that. He put down stuff for ants around the house and gave me advice. Both the lady who did the inspection and the tech were very professional. They gave me all the information I needed to prepare myself. They made me understand what was included with my American Home Shield Warranty and what options they had available. Overall, I'm satisfied with AHS.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

Home Shield replaced my water heater. They paid for the water heater but I was told to pay the cost and then to send it and they would see if they would reimburse me. It's easy to submit claims with them and I haven't had any problems before. But this last time, it was difficult to try to get an understanding when I'm reading the contract. I asked the person answering the phone and I was told it was part of their IT Department. I asked if there was a supervisor I could speak to She said she would go talk to the supervisor and then she came back saying the same thing. I asked for someone to call me back and she said no. She told me where I can get information but there was no resolve to the situation because I couldn't talk to them.
I ended up paying the additional fees so I wasn't happy at all. She can merely do what somebody else is telling her. It was not a very smooth transition. When it renewed, there was no problem when I called in and got the renewal. I paid it up front and got done with it. But as far as the communication in the circle of the client, the customer service rep and the IT Department was a really gray area that could be cleared up. Anything else would be fine. I just got the claim completed last week and so it took three and a half weeks. I could've called back and maybe got another customer service person but that was just gonna escalate it.

My dryer pulley went out so the dryer wasn’t rotating. My dryer crapped out on a Friday, but it took Kingdom Appliance until Tuesday to get out. That’s one thing that I didn’t like about that - it wasn’t very quick service. You put a claim with Home Shield, and then they all forward it to a local service here, and then the local service isn’t open Saturdays and Sundays. They’re only open Monday to Friday. So, by the time they contact us on Monday, they won't be able to come out until the following day. From the time we submitted it, it took four days for them to come out. It was good service. I just wish they showed up a bit sooner instead of me having to wait four days to get my dryer fixed.
I don’t know if that’s because of the choice of their providers here in the local area, but they should have some kind of weekend coverage. There are plumbers, electricians, stuff like that. Appliances go out. People lose their refrigerators. Their process is too lengthy. I could’ve called somebody on my own without going through their warranty process, and I could have somebody out that evening. I would’ve found somebody.
During this whole COVID-19 thing, the tech tried to distance himself from us, so he really didn’t talk to us that much. He was quick. He knew right away what was wrong with the dryer. He took five minutes to open it up, then maybe another two minutes to replace the part. and then another five minutes to put it back together, and he was gone. He said, “You’re good to go,” and then I said, “Oh, thanks, man,” and then he walked out. Not disrespectful or anything, but I’m sure that he doesn’t want to interact with people too closely.

They needed to order a part, they did so, and then followed up to put in the part, all in quick order. That was a very good first experience. I feel good about that. But I'm less rosy on any additional claim. We’re still waiting on a second claim where our vendor seemed to have gone silent for the last two weeks. I want to give them a bit of an easier time because Coronavirus. People are moving at a difference pace right now, but I would’ve loved a bit more for our oven issue. Apparently, they weren't coordinating with this so he didn't come out till about 4:30. It was okay, but they shouldn't have let me wait at home. I had to do some things that were very important like doctor's appointments and a few other stuff, and I couldn't do 'cause I was tied up. I was sitting there waiting and they kept on putting me on hold for so long. That was a waste of time.
It wasn't the technician's mistake. It was the guys at the company that answered the phone. There was a little bit of misunderstanding between them. But other than that, it worked great. The technician was very quick and a nice guy. He knew what to do and changed it very well then he was out. He wasn’t able to fix the issue though. He had to call AHS and let them know what the issue was. He left me a paper saying that there was a low voltage. He believed there was a break in the wire somewhere.
He told AHS it looked like some critter got underneath my crawlspace and chewed on the wires. However, my crawlspace is undisturbed and the wire situation was right outside by the unit. It looked like when they installed the unit, they just used electrical tape to cover up the stuff. That stuff has deteriorated through weathering and four of the wires were missing caps. It would be better if AHS could allow me to send the pictures ‘cause they told me there was no way for a customer to send pictures to prove my crawlspace wasn’t disturbed or that it was a pest issue. They said only a technician could send pictures in, so there’s no way for me to contradict him.

Updated on 05/21/2020: Was told by AHS via email to hire any licensed and insured HVAC contractor to effect timely repairs. I did so. We were told by (3) different HVAC contractors that trying to locate a leak in a 15 year old plus system would not be cost effective. Chose the Contractor that we felt most comfortable with and had the following done: Replaced Condenser, Line Set and Evaporator Coil. All is well. They did an excellent job. Forwarded receipt to AHS on 05/11/20. Have not heard from AHS since and quite frankly I don't expect to.
We pay a monthly fee for the service to provide peace of mind. Peace of mind was provided, until something broke. Apparently I would have been much better off to set aside funds for emergency repairs rather than paying a fee to AHS, especially considering I subsequently had to pay for the repairs out of pocket anyway, in addition to the $100.00 technician fee to have someone come out to tell me what I already know, it's broken. Very disappointing experience.
Original review: My Central AC unit is not working. No cooling. Contacted AHS on the 23rd of April. The contractor that they assigned to us couldn't come out until the 27th. The technician on the 27th says, "You have a leak. We need to get authorization from AHS to proceed to investigate. We will be in touch to schedule appointment to perform a isolation test". Next day still no one from AC contractor has reached out. Bear in mind that it is 104 deg. today. Dog panting, wife steaming. Received text message today, the 29th to rate AHS as they have been advised that work has been completed. What! I reach out to AHS, can't get thru. Called AC contractor and am told that they will send out tech to perform test on May 5, 2020. They will then return on the 12th to determine where leak is. Outside temperature will continue to be brutal during this period, high 90's - to low 100's. AHS potential buyers beware. This is a circus best avoided.

I have had many contractors work in my home. I decided to get AHS coverage. This has been the WORST experience I have ever had! My hot water tank stopped working 4 weeks ago, and I still don't have a replacement tank. When I called customer service, I was repeatedly disconnected after being on hold for 20-20 minutes. I have 23 calls into their customer service line. They have ONE contractor that they use in the Richmond, VA area. The contractor appt took almost 4 weeks after they assessed that I needed a new tank.
Due to a mixup, they cancelled my appointment. When I called to inquire, I was told the earliest they could fit me in was the following week. Another whole week without hot water. My son ended up having to do some plumbing work and removed the old tank, which was leaking, and capped off the hot and cold intake/output from the hot water tank so we could have running water in the house. We HAD to get the tank out because of the leak. It was ruining the floor. The contractor still plans to charge us for tank removal. WTF!!! Waste of money, time and effort. I'll be cancelling my contract as soon as all is said and done.

When I called American Home Shield, I asked if they could give them the business, but they gave us somebody else first who was about 45 miles away and it was someone we never could get ahold of. When I didn’t hear from the other company, they contacted Alvarez, so I was happy with that. However, I’m getting to the point where I’m ready for the renewal of my American Home Shield, and I’m trying to decide whether or not I want to do that because when I call them, it’s always so hard to get people out right away. It’s no skin off their back to have someone call you right away too, but it'll be 48 hours before you can hear from somebody.
Usually, with us, it’s always been with the water issue, so I can’t wait. Water scares me because I don’t know whether or not it’s a big deal. I put towels down and I wait and it’s annoying. The contractor will come out in a week. It’s a second home, and I can’t always be right there waiting. They're all homeowners too, and they should feel the same thing that we're feeling. If I didn’t have American Home Shield, I would just call a plumber and the plumber would be coming out that day. Instead, I have to jump through so many hoops. I first have to pay my deductible then I have to beg them to send somebody out and it's an emergency. They're very nice when you talk to them, but the annoying part is you have to play every single game to get help.

It’s the fourth time I’ve had Elite Appliance come and check my washer. Supposedly, they fixed it. I did my first load and the agitator just popped out of the washing machine. They're supposed to be coming again to try to fix it. The guy was nice but it was just not getting fixed. They try to fix something and mess something else up. I’ve been without a washer for a while already. It’s very frustrating, especially now that we can’t be going to the Laundromat and we can’t leave the house.
Every time the contractors come out, it’s $75 unless it’s under warranty. But I’m seriously thinking of just letting the insurance go for that reason. I’ve had it for so long, and just the thought of how much I paid, I could have just bought a new appliance instead of paying so much a month throughout the years and having to pay every time they come and service something.
I’ve had problems with the air conditioner. They come and sort of fixed it and it works for the summer. The next thing, it happens again. My sister has AHS also and they replaced her air conditioner totally on two of her homes. She asked me why they didn't do that to me. I didn't know. I’m hoping that maybe they’ll cover my washer and replace it. But I don't know what’s gonna happen after they come again. Right now, with the Coronavirus, I’m putting everything at risk.

I’m really happy with AHS because we’re gonna re-sign. We got the service when we bought our house because we insisted on a home warranty, and the sellers had to pay for it. My refrigerator has gone out, and I’m getting a replacement. All I had to do was pay a service fee and disposal fee. We’re waiting for them to call us to tell us when they’re gonna deliver it. I've told them how happy I am. When I first started out, I caught the person on a bad day, but when the conversation was all said and done, she made it right. On Time Plumbing & Heating came for a blockage but has to come back and replace or repair an issue. There’s a breakage because there’s a rip in the line. In order to find the rip or where the breakage is, they had to send a camera down, and then dig up a spot. It’s a hundred-year old house.

I made a service order when the AC unit on our house wasn't producing cold air and it was easy. I just went to the website, submitted an issue, and they assigned it to somebody quickly. The contractor called within 40 minutes and they scheduled to come that same day as well. They were looking at 2 o'clock, but they were able to come out around 10:00. The issue was a burnt capacitor, probably because of storms we've had previously, and they were able to make the fix.
One of the reasons we selected American Home Shield was that they had a broad basic coverage of appliances and electric. Plus, they had a good reputation of a quick turnaround. This is our second claim and the first one was still a very quick process. The last time we made a claim, it was on a holiday weekend and it took a little bit longer for a response, but we were expecting that. Still, they were faster than our expectations in this last one and the first one too.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

I had a claim that required a plumber and I paid my $100. American Home Shield said they could not find one of their contract plumbers to do the work. If I would find one and get an estimate, send it in, they would potentially okay it. I found a plumber and he told me it would cost less than $100 to fix. I went ahead and had it fixed, and I paid for it. Then American Home Shield said they weren't gonna pay for it. I told them to just give me my $100 back. That was the only complaint I had. Recently, All American Pools came out for my claim. They fixed it so everything went well.

But the guy who came was totally different. He was very knowledgeable. When I raised the matter, he said there was no problem. He understood what was going on and he took care of it. He knew what he was doing and it was nice. I liked him. Everything was fine. I have really enjoyed working with AHS. They really know what they're doing. They are reliable. Somebody told me about American Home Shield and I thought it would be good to have, so we've always had it. It's great and I couldn't do without it. Recently, I had a problem with all three of my appliances. My dryer was making a horrible screaking sound that drives people nuts. My brand-new washing machine wouldn't come on and it just so happened the warranty had been out for two weeks. I've had trouble out of my washing machine before and the warranty people came out and put something on it. It couldn't be fixed by warranty though. Also, the heat escapes out the front of my stove and it's making stuff longer to cook. When I put in my orders through American Home Shield, the agent did very good.
I asked and they were going to send a man out who works on appliances that I get all three of them done. The man came and he had some little tools and a machine-like thing. I like him. He knows what he's doing and he's the same one who comes all the time when I have problems. He fixed my washing machine and found that the rubber seal around the stove came out of it. He also took the dryer apart, checked it out, and said the front and back bearings were out of it. Now, I don't have to hear the horrible screaking sound that the dryer was making. I've been able to get my laundry done and I'm using my oven again as well.

In the last couple of three years, we would get American Home Shield and they would assign me a contractor. Within four days (sometimes it was up to a week), they would come and they would say they have to order the part. We would then have to wait almost another week before it was finally fixed. We also have American Home Shield in our rental home and in one of the cases, that same thing happened. Our daughter happens to live there and she has two small kids. After four days of the water standing full in the washer, the contractor said it was the pump. He went back, ordered it and it was going to be at least four more days. Our daughter's husband took the washer apart, went to the water pump and it was a sock in the water pump. He took out the sock, and it worked.
I called American Home Shield and told them I wasn't going to pay that $75. The guy just looked and he didn't even take it apart to see if it would work without a brand-new one. They said he diagnosed, but if someone's going to diagnose, they should take the unit apart to find out what was wrong. This time though, I got a really good service from American Home Shield. I did the claim online and they gave me the name of the company. The company was not going to be able to get here until Wednesday. We have a Kenmore washer which is 20 years old and if the first company had come, it was going to be the same type of thing where they don't come with anything. They wouldn't have taken it apart and I can bet that they would've said a belt and the belt was not what was wrong.
I called American Home Shield, talked to a person and asked if they could get me somebody that could come sooner than Wednesday. She gave me A Plus Appliance Repair and they were awesome. They came the next day instead of waiting four days and the guy took the washer apart, saw what was wrong, and fixed it right there. It wasn't anything like I would've thought and the next day, it was done. He was so nice and knowledgeable too. I cannot say enough about him. I had been rethinking keeping American Home Shield, and now I will continue. I don't care about going online anymore though. To me, that's diddly-squat because they give you the first one on the thing. I want to talk to somebody and if I can request A Plus in the future, that's what I'm going to do.

I have two houses and they both are covered by AHS. It has been fairly easy to submit my first claim as far as the technicians they have sent. I spoke to a live person when I filed my claim, but I was a little annoyed because they mispronounced my name. I corrected them and they continued to mispronounce it throughout the whole conversation. I said whatever and just gave up on that.
My GE washing machine did not start at all. The electronic board on it went out completely. The contractor came out and replaced the board. They were polite and knowledgeable. They were also masked and have gloves on. I’ve done about five loads of clothes and now the board is not telling the washing machine to drain. Now, it’s not draining and the pump is grinding. The washing machine is less than five years old.
I don’t know how the expensive electronics are on it, but it’s ridiculous. I understand, with the COVID-19, and the parts are made probably in Japan or China. But it took a month to get the parts in and then I had to get people back out. It has definitely been painstaking. I told the rep my frustration. I said that I already waited a month to have a washing machine and after doing less than half a dozen loads, it’s broke again, and there’s no way for them to tell me how long it’s gonna take to get repaired again. They got somebody out the next day so I can’t complain that way.
They’ve been really good as far as the service department with the technicians that have come out, but it does not seem to fix the problem. It seems to be a series of electrical things within the washing machine. If this doesn’t fix the washing machine, I hope they give me credit towards one so I can go buy a new one. I just don’t see throwing good money after bad. I don’t think they should spend more money than they need to. I don’t know if sending someone out to buy these parts is the most cost-effective thing on a $500 washing machine.
Thank you for the feedback regarding the washer. We would love to come to a resolution in terms of this. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

I bought a house about a month ago and the contractor came out to do the lock rekey. They were on time and I was very satisfied with the work. The guy was very friendly and given what’s going on right now, kept our social distancing and he respected that. He wasn’t here long but he did six locks for me and rekeyed, and everything works perfectly. I paid my $75 deductible and everything was covered. I had him do an additional doorknob for me that was broken. It was a very reasonable rate and he was able to key it also for the same rekeys as the other six that he did for me.
One of the locks was a keypad lock that was not working and he told me if I put batteries in it, he would show me how to work it. I found some batteries, we got it working and he did run me through on how to use it. Now, it works perfectly. So, it was a very good experience. He was very helpful, friendly and we’re very pleased with the overall experience.
I called American Home Shield for an electrician and the problem was not resolved. The guy reported back to AHS and one of their representatives reached out to me the next day. I wasn’t happy with the response that I got on that particular case but it had nothing to do with the electrician. There wasn’t much that he could do. I had some outlets that went out on me after I bought the house and we didn’t know why. He had a few opinions and believes that the problem was behind the wall. I have a brand-new kitchen in this house. So, we didn’t do anything and he didn’t know what was covered. So, he relayed to American Home Shield what was going on.
I was in the house for literally three days when this problem occurred and when AHS contacted me, I didn’t like the attitude and the service of the representative. He told me flat out that the electrician reported the problem to them and that if I wanna punch a hole in my brand-new wall, that’s on me. The electrician is not responsible and they will not fix it. American Home Shield will not cover it and then, if they can locate the problem, then they will decide whether or not the problem is covered. He said that if it’s wear and tear on the wiring, then they’ll cover it. So, he was leaving me no options.
I’m a brand-new homeowner and I told him that I understand they’re not gonna cover the wall. I could tear this whole kitchen apart to try to find out what the problem is but then, I’m getting no response from them. If it’s not the exact answer, then they’re not gonna cover it and I’m gonna have a bigger problem on my hands. He was saying that if I wanna take a chance and cut a hole in my wall and let the guy figure out what’s wrong, then maybe they’ll cover. AHS is not doing me any favors. I can do that on my own.
I got a little bit of an attitude with him and told him that their guy came here and he was fine. I didn’t have an issue with the electrician and he gave me his opinion because he couldn’t do anything. I said that I got friends that are electricians that can give me opinions. So, they could just send me my $75 back and I would figure out how I’m gonna handle it. I knew the answer. That was not refundable and I was not getting my $75 back. Now, we’re still in a limbo because I haven’t reached back out to the electrician and I haven’t talked to American Home Shield. If I contact them on this issue depending on what I decide to do and what they would possibly cover or not cover, it still is an open case. For now, I just let it go and I have it rigged up so I could bypass the problem.
I’m a nice guy and I’m understanding but the rep kinda came at me like this was my problem and they were not covering it. They should help me out here or give me something that I could work with and some kind of hope and guidance. I didn’t know what to do, which was why I have American Home Shield. If I knew how to fix it myself, I would and I wouldn’t need those guys. It was very cold and impersonal, and the rep kept harping on that they were not covering this nor that. I was a little disappointed.
After I had such a great experience with the locksmith and American Home Shield, I paid the $75. They sent the guy out and everything worked great. I was dumbfounded because it was a week later that I used the electrician and it was a total different experience based on AHS. The electrician did his job and he was very courteous. When he was here, we decided not to do anything until we found out if it was covered and then, that was when I got the phone call and everything kinda went awry.
I don’t wanna blast AHS. It wasn’t horrible and they’re a good company. I’m happy that I have the peace of mind having a warranty service. It just wasn’t what I was expecting on that case. I hoped he would have said that he was not worried about the walls as far as getting that repaired. He was telling me every reason why it’s not gonna be covered and that wasn’t helping me. Still, I’m gonna use AHS again like I did and I’m not even gonna let it be categorized as a terrible experience. I’m sure that if I call AHS for something else, it could be a totally different experience.
I’m assuming it’s brand-new wiring and something disconnected somewhere behind the walls. I don’t know what that would cost if they say it’s not covered and then I would get a bill from the electrician. He has been here all day tracing the wires and I don’t know what that would even cost. I have faith in AHS. Everybody’s going through this mess together. The representative could have been having a bad day although he could’ve been a little friendlier. The other rep with the lock followed up with the locksmith, and he was friendly and asked me about the experience. I’ve already paid for them and I’d continue to use them if I need them for another year. Most likely, if I use them again or if I get this problem resolved, however it goes, I’ll probably re-up next year as well.

The AC was not working and was blowing hot air out. So, Wilson came out and he said it was the breaker, that the unit wasn’t getting any power. He said, “You need to have a electrician. I can’t do anything with this.” So, I called American Home Shield back, and they sent an electrician, and he changed the breaker. And then after he fixed the breaker, the unit still didn’t work. So, I had to call AHS back, and they sent Wilson back out and that guy was able to fix it in 15 minutes. It was something wrong with the unit, but they could not tell it because the unit wasn’t getting any power.
I've been with AHS for a lot of years. I had two properties, and I left them at my more expensive house. I was living in over $300,000 house and I did not like that American Home Shield partner with small businesses. I don’t have a problem with small businesses doing work, but when it is something major, I don’t think a small business should take on that kind of job because those guys are not even in business anymore. So, I was concerned about it. American Home Shield took their word for it as to how much they would pay to put in a unit. American Home Shield would give the unit, but the customer had to pay to bring it up to date, code-wise. And so, the house was 3,700 square feet and the guy told them they could put a unit in for $1,200. American Home Shield knew that was impossible.
And then the guy came afterwards, American Home Shield agreed to allow them to do it with the no-name unit, some company I never heard of. So, I wasn’t happy with that. So, I told American Home Shield. The guy came behind the company, and he wanted me to pay him an additional $2,500 to bring it up to code, which would have cost three grand anyway. But AHS told me they couldn’t send me to another company because they already had an agreement with that company, and they said that they could do it for 1,200. But because I didn’t want the unit that they offered, I needed to buy the contract out.
And so, American Home Shield wrote me a check for $1,200. I had to get a reputable company to put a Trane unit in that house. It costed me over $3,300. So, I left American Home Shield for a number of years and then I came back to them when I sold that house. I don’t know if they still do business like that, but that put a bad taste in my mouth. If it was like a refrigerator breaking down or the dishwasher, I would be okay with that. But a big unit that would heat and cool a big house like that with a full basement, I did not like that.
I also don't like the paying the money up front. Before, you would not have to pay the money until the service was done. And the way that they are doing it now, if you are unhappy, then what happens? Are they gonna give you your fee back? It's like me paying up front for a meal I haven’t eaten. I only call them for my air and I always ask for Wilson. They send Wilson because if Wilson says they are coming at a certain time, they are here. They don’t try to come in your house, and if they do come in, they always cover their shoes. The electrician who came was very professional. He was a small business person as well.

I've made a few claims with them and 75% of the time, I was 100% satisfied with it. There was a couple of claims that I disagreed with. They gave me the rationale, and so I had accepted. And then, one other time, the people that came out said there wasn't anything wrong, but it's still making a noise. But that wasn't really American Shield, it was the people that they had come out to do the repair. The response time of AHS seems to be pretty quick. Sometimes, the response of the technicians, their timeframe seems to be a little longer. But when you have a problem, you want it fixed. The technician comes out, they do the troubleshooting, and 90% of the time, it gets repaired. I'm happy with the process so far.

When I first had to use American Home Shield, they came out in record time, fixed it, and my cost was 75 bucks. I thought, if that's the case, this takes the worry out of the property. I was ecstatic about what they did at my house and so I was totally concerned of our properties, and all of them has central air and heat, and I started putting them on one by one. I’ve got the vast majority of them on American Home Shield so I’ve been with them for a long time now. The only complaint that I’ve had is the people I've talked to there are not speaking English and speaking enough that I could understand it. That is very aggravating. When I keep trying to explain something is going on, they keep saying they didn’t understand. Then I had to say, “I’m sorry, I can’t understand you.”
Recently, the air conditioner was balling up with ice around the coil in one of our properties. The compressor outside quit working then it would thaw out, and then it would come back on, and then it just started getting hot in there. I called American Home Shield and told them what I had. They did some paperwork then they said that they’ll be sending out Fahrenheit Solutions, and this company had done work for me before.
Times before, they’ve told me that it would be within 24 hours that I should be contacted, and then I could discuss when the company could be here. And so, I called Fahrenheit Solutions and told them what the problem was, and that I’d already called American Home Shield. Fahrenheit Solutions came out and fixed it and left. It started acting up again and then they came back. It worked really well for about two to three weeks and then it started freezing up again. The guy told me on the phone that it was low on Freon so he came out and worked on it, and everything’s been fine since then.

AA Dependable Appliance was very good. I had water leaking from my refrigerator icemaker when we weren’t using it. It turned out that the icemaker itself was hanging down. There was no screw ever installed. So, the tech installed a screw, he held it up, and there are no issues since. The tech was great. He explained everything to us, was pretty quick, and was in and out.

A friend of mine had AHS and got me into purchasing it. I've had my contract at my address for a year. My dad passed away a couple of years ago and I advised my mom to take out an AHS warranty on her house, which is next door but a different address. She’s older and cannot deal with something going wrong so I had her address put in my name. At that time I took the warranty out, AHS was gonna give me about $6 a month break on the premium. The premium was supposed to be cheaper on her policy than at my personal house, but I'm getting charged the same amount no matter which location it was.
I’d rather submit claims on the phone because it takes less time sometimes, except when I get somebody from India. You can’t understand them. But sometimes, you get an American operator and I much prefer someone that I can understand when I'm talking to them. The contractor got the problem on my washing machine fixed. He had to troubleshoot it, get the part in and reprogram the machine. Everything turned out okay.

The tech from Del’s Appliance came out and figured out what was wrong, ordered the parts, and came back out, and put them on. It was excellent. Every contractor that I’ve had come out, they come out and figure out what’s wrong. And if they can fix it, they fix it. If not, they order the parts and come back out. However I hope AHS lowers the rates for the service fee though they stayed the same for the past couple of years. Other than that I’ve had my microwave replaced so I don’t have any problems with them.

To get somebody out here would cost a minimum of $75 and, usually, that covers a little bit of the maintenance that needs to keep things going. I have an issue with the brick, which wasn't covered but that's a contractor issue. I also had one electrician that I had to cover because there was an issue with the original electric and we had to wire our light. But otherwise, everything has basically been covered by AHS so far. We've had contractors for the washing machine, dishwasher, and refrigerator. The last one that we've had, Joe Cool Air Conditioning, was for the AC. The tech did good. He has been out here a couple of times for different units.

Every time I used American Home Shield, they had been perfect with me. When I made a service request for an AC issue, they had A-US Air Conditioning of Texas come out and the experience was very good. The tech was very professional and knew what to look for. He was able to fix the problem pretty quickly. American Home Shield also sent somebody out when my refrigerator freezer broke down. It was the compressor.
That kind of refrigerator freezer with the compressor could no longer be built so, American Home Shield told me what my ceiling would be to buy a new refrigerator because I would have to buy a new one. They sent me a link of where I could find refrigerators under AHS. They also said I had options to go outside if I wanted to. If I were to go over my ceiling though, it would be out of my pocket. But anything under the ceiling, they would take care of and they did. I sent the paperwork in and in a matter of less than two weeks, I had my check.

The contractor came out and assessed that it was the compressor and said I had to call Samsung. So I did and arranged it. Then they sent their guy out and he checked it out and he said they gotta do an exchange and that it was gone. But it’s been one month and I do not have a refrigerator. I called yesterday and told AHS that they said it’s been approved and that it would take five to seven days after it’s been approved. I had to wait ‘til today to have them call me.

4A Appliance Repair was very nice. They unplugged the refrigerator and waited about four minutes, and then they plugged it back in, and that was it. It was so easy to fix. I could have done it myself if I would have known. It cost me $100 to unplug the refrigerator and then plug it back in. Previous to that, I had a garage door opener that was replaced, and about 90 days afterwards, it quit working. And then the contractor didn’t hook up a wire properly, so it came up. They hooked up the wire that came loose and that cost me $100. It only took a couple of minutes. I’ve had some bad luck not with the warranty. It’s just stuff that are easy to fix. I’m happy with the warranty.
I follow up on the news a lot and we had a provider previous to Home Shield. There were so many bad things going on with them that I canceled it and got Home Shield's warranty. My daughter has it with them as well and she always had good luck with them. She had some major issues and Home Shield took care of it. I’m hoping that will continue.

Everything was fine with my plumbing claim. I was very pleased with the service that was given to us. The young man was very professional, courteous and efficient. AHS had resolved the issues I had years ago. Then a couple of weeks ago, I called them because someone called me and said that because of the plumbing issue, my account was in collection. That didn’t make sense to me. The lady was very unprofessional and nasty. I also heard a baby in the background. In light of everything, people are all working from home. But something seemed really bizarre about that, especially since AHS changed their payment procedures. They didn't know the date of the service or anything, and they were asking other questions.
There were several questions that I asked the lady that she could not communicate to us. She said that she was gonna document and let the leadership know. I told her that a prerequisite for Home Shield to have service was that we should pay ahead of time and the claim would be taken care of. In other words, it’s no money or no transaction between the vendor and us. That was one of my three flags about whoever called. So when I asked the question about that, she abruptly hung up. My concern was that person that called me fraudulently had my personal information. I immediately addressed it with Home Shield.

And every time we’ve ever had an issue, they were able to get someone else to help fix the problem that we’ve been having in a timely fashion. So, overall, I’ve been pretty happy with them. The only thing is, you have two options. You could either place a service request from the internet, or if you wanna speak with someone over the phone, there’s a bit of a language barrier at times, ‘cause they're outsourced somewhere. So, I’ve had it become a problem when this past summer, we had an issue with our air conditioner. And I was talking about the parts that were needed and it was an issue with not understanding.
