My microwave had a loud roar. The technician from Cal Valley Appliance Repair came out and explained to me that he would order the parts, he would let the home warranty know what parts they needed, and then when they arrived, that he would be back. Also, if there were any problems, I would hear from American Home Shield. Well, I heard from Cal Valley Appliance Repair and they told me that they had had to order four parts and they would get back to me. Then American Home Shield sent me an email and it told me that they could not repair it. The parts were no longer available. They contacted me and gave me three options, to either replace it, or to get the one that they looked at that if I wanted to upgrade then I could pay the difference, or I could take the cash.
The options were okay. The only thing that I had a problem was that I was not good with measurements. When I went on the website that they gave me, it said, "Page not available," and it frustrated me. I called one of the others in charge and he went online at his home and gave me the original dimensions. He said that according to the dimensions in the thing, it would fit. I said, "Okay," then he said it was white, and that was what I wanted.
I called American Home Shield with the number they gave me and they told me that if it didn't fit, I would be responsible for the restocking charge. I got upset and asked how was I supposed to know that. They said that I have to measure it. There was a young girl next door to me. She came over and we measured it together. Then she went to Google and pulled up the number of the microwave that they gave me. We figured out that it would fit. I called AHS and told them to send it. They asked if I was sure it would fit and told them yes. They told me I'd hear from them in five to seven days.
They came Thursday or Friday morning and installed it and I just held my breath while they were putting it in. Then I was informed that I'd have to get someone to haul the old microwave off and I was frustrated about that. When I got this warranty 21 years ago, I bought the top deal that they had for my small condo. The guy told me that I could call and see how much it would cost to add to it. So then, I called the elder from the church and he said he and his son would pick it up to haul it off and that to have them put it on the front porch so that's where it is. The new microwave's fine now. I heated water in it. I don't use it for cooking.

The air conditioner was not working so well. My husband submitted the claim electronically on to the American Home Shield page. Then they gave an ETA after he called. When Relaxed Heating and Air came, they said that the problem was a breaker or something that was broken, and that was what they took care of on the spot. The contracting team was professional, and they answered all our questions, so I was satisfied with that. The unit has been working great since they came out. Overall, our experience was efficient and timely, so I appreciated that.

I called the Home Shield for a plumbing claim and they called Plumbing Pro Services. A plumber came out in a day or two and hee had everything with him so he took care of the issue. He replaced the garbage disposal and he did a good job of getting it in there except I’m not too sure that he met code.

The two contractors that we’ve had out here recently were fantastic. I was very happy with it. We had a hot water heater issue, and then we had a problem with the burner on the oven of our stove. With the stove, I called in the issue to American Home Shield and they set me up with the appliance company. They turned it around efficiently. The company was out the next day to look at the stove and diagnosed the fact that there was a problem. There was an issue with the burner that they had to replace a piece on it, and they got it working again within an hour. It’s working better than it ever did too.
We haven’t used American Home Shield a lot, but in this particular case, the experience was good. There are some times where I felt like there were items that they should have covered that were related to a repair that they elected not to, but overall, it’s wishful thinking on my half more than anything else. I can’t complain so far with the service, except for the fact that they keep getting more expensive. The monthly rate has gone up significantly. I’m still getting good value for it, but it’s gone up about $20 since I signed up the first time.

I've been dealing with Plumbers Inc for a month concerning our electric water heater they installed that's not working. The plumber that installed it shorted it out. He hit a wire, sparks flew out the closet and it knocked him out. Plumbers Inc at first said it was a leak. Now, they're trying to say it's electrical. I've been without hot water since April 16th, and I'm very upset with them. And I can't seem to get any leverage from American Home Shield. They were sending somebody out and this is about the fifth person from Plumbers Inc. Aside from Vortex, I also had Anderson Plumbing and Quality Plumbing check the heater. They both said it's faulty, and they're two reputable plumbing companies. AHS kept telling me give this plumbing company a chance, but how many chances should I give them? I just want this heater replaced.
I'm really upset with Plumbers Inc and American Home Shield. I've had good results from them before, but I'm not having good results with them now. I told them that I have been happy with them up until this time, and I'm just frustrated and I'm getting the runaround from the Plumbers Inc, and they're taking advantage of me 'cause I'm a senior. But I'm not stupid.

I’m really glad I have AHS because I left my husband and I’m just on my own. With just a phone call and 75 bucks base payment, life has been good. My life is perfect and comfortable now. My air conditioning was just running and running, but it would get hotter. It would be 80 degrees, and after running for an hour or two, it would be 84, which was weird. The Jungle Cat sent a guy named Mike and Mike was way cool. He was perfect, professional, and friendly. He just nailed it. He wasn’t here 20 minutes. He was like ta, ta, ta and the air conditioning has been perfect ever since. I’m very happy with AHS.

Beaches Air did a totally different diagnosis and it saved us a lot of money. They switched out our thermostat and everything has been working great ever since. Having Home Shield is hassle-free and it's a nice little safety net to have if something happened. My wife said that all the people that have come out with Home Shield have been nice as well.

We had a toilet wax seal broken and I had done this before to a point. But when I realized it was beyond my level because the floor was messed up, I got online with AHS and had a technician come out the next day. He had to jack up the pieces off the floor, install a lifter kit, and offered some other things. Apparently, when they redid the house, they did not do it correctly. So, the wax ring was set below the floor and that’s not how it was supposed to be. The gentleman did very well and he repaired it on the same day. He got it done in three hours and I was impressed with him. Everything works very good now.

We had an issue where the air conditioner was not sending cool air to the vent. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was very quick. I have been with them for a couple of years now and it has been much quicker. It is also quicker to do it online than to dial through and get somebody. About the second that I click what I need and hit the button, I will get a text back and it will have me the person. I thought I was going to have to contact them, which surprised me. So, the contractor Mel's Preventive Maintenance contacted me right away.
The first time the tech came out, it was a Friday where it was like, “Man, I wished I could have found this problem before,” but the weather had not warmed up enough. I sent that request at 4:00 o’clock in the evening where nobody else was going to respond, but he came out that evening. He said, "I can be out there in 35 minutes.” He was helpful. Then we had to have him come back because he sprayed some stuff to check for leaks, which was not the issue. When he came back, the condenser was freezing up. So, he fixed it the next time. He was wonderful and on both times he was very quick. Since the repairs the house has been nice and cool. The unit has been working.
We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

Our first 100-degree day was coming up here in the Coachella Valley. So I swapped out our filters and tested the system. And the fan unit up in the attic was really loud, so I knew there was a problem. So, I made the call. Comfort Air sent over their tech and he climbed up in the attic and he said that the wheel or the squirrel cage was loose, and banging around in there. He ordered the part, swapped it out. It came on a Saturday and then they showed up on a Monday. They were pretty quick.
They swapped out the fan and everything appeared to be working fine. But then about 3:00 in the morning, it sounded like the motor couldn't get the fan spinning anymore. It woke us up 'cause it was struggling to work. I made a second claim to AHS and I jumped online and submitted it again. It asked me if it had to do with the first claim and it did. It was still the motor assembly up in the attic. The contractors showed up the next day. He said that the motor had also gone bad, so we swapped out the motor and it's been working fine since.
With the motor assembly up in the attic, everything's been functioning great. My thermostat died a couple of days later but I just swapped that myself. Since then, everything's been working fine. The contractor was great. The second one was very professional too. He was always practicing with social distance. He had his mask on this whole time he was at my house. The technician was very knowledgeable too.

We have a history with American Home Shield and with their providers and we've had some hiccups along the way. There were times when they sent out a provider that didn't fix the issue, and then 34 days later, we have to place another call. We also have to pay another fee, even though it's the same issue that we called them for in the first place. We are ofttimes discouraged as well by the fact that they will not come out and look at an appliance that is obviously starting to struggle or die. If they would come out when they can hear a belt is slipping or something is grinding or something is out of balance, they could avoid having to repair a broken appliance. They won't come out until it's actually broken, so we wait until it breaks and at that point, we're inconvenienced.
We have keypad entries into our garages and recently, they were not working. KTM Door Control came out to fix them and they ended up replacing one. However, American Home Shield needs to communicate with us, the homeowner, more before assigning a provider. There were times that they assigned us somebody that we worked with in the past and it didn't work, whereas there are times that they've given us a provider like the garage door people that every time they come, they fix the problem. Why can't I select that particular provider instead of one that we worked with before that was not satisfactory? They assign it and we have no recourse. I'm not asking them to go outside of their network too. It's in their network.

We purchased a home with the warranty from AHS. One month after we purchased it the AC pump burned out and there was a leak and flooding in my home. Newly installed baseboards and door frames were damaged. They sent someone to repair it and we paid the co-pay. They said damage is not covered, however, I should have kept the old pump and they could have checked for manufacturer's defects to help with the water damage that my home incurred.
Less than 5 months later the pump stopped working so I called AHS (approximately 30 minute wait) and asked that they send out the company again. The rep immediately told us that it's been more than 30 days and is no longer covered and that we need to pay the co-pay again. So we did and she said she would send out the same company, however, she didn't. It was another company altogether.
Under the contract, heating and cooling issues are considered emergencies and they have to have someone out within 3 days. The person took 5 days to get here and the tech said the pump was defective and we need another one. We live in Las Vegas and summer has started so it is hot. I called AHS and the first thing the rep tells me is that she cannot do anything until a report is received and then it would take time to process. I told her it was not an option because it was hot and also because I have kids. Also, I asked that they contact the original repair company to have them cover the co-pays.
She put me on hold to call the repair company to get things moving and after 5 minutes the system transferred me to a voicemail and hung up. No one called back. I called the repair company and they informed me that AHS never called as the rep told me she was doing. The repair company is a small shop with only one person that handles claims and she answered right away when I called. I am now on a call with them again and have been on hold for 20 minutes trying to get a rep on the phone. They are quick to take the premium and the co-pays but don't have any consideration for the customer. I wouldn't even give them one star if I could. Another typical insurance company.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

I own a few different properties and have AHS on all of them. Over a month ago, one of my properties had a leak at the faucet over the tub. This property is in the Sacramento area and the plumber that AHS uses is Budget Rooter. Anyhow, Budget Rooter came out and then left saying they needed to order parts. Since then, we have not heard a peep from them. My property manager has left several messages with zero response. I called AHS (2 weeks ago) and was able to get a person on the phone who said she would reach out to the plumber herself, but I never heard back.
My property manager messaged me today and said she still can't reach anyone and the faucet was never fixed. I tried to help by calling AHS and cannot get a human on the phone to speak with. I keep getting disconnected or put on indefinite hold. I have left a message with the plumber and we'll see if they call me back since they haven't heard of my name yet, only my property managers. I do NOT recommend this company unless they can get better subcontractors and better customer service where you can speak to a person to get issues resolved. I will be switching companies the beginning of the next month and AHS will be losing my business. Maybe if I had only one property they may not care, but they are losing 4 properties plus the business of anyone who may be reading this review.
We do apologize and we would not want to lose you as a customer due to this plumbing issue. We would love to discuss this further. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

Subpar work, when it goes wrong they do everything not to cover. I have had AHS for multiple years. Where they do okay, minor issues such as a backed up sink. However, it will usually take 2-3 service calls (assume you have to call in and be on hold for 15 minutes each time) to get an issue resolved. If you have a major issue that is when it gets troublesome. Most reputable companies for plumbing, HVAC won't work with them. They get asked to do subpar work.
I had a major issue last year - backed up sink from 3 separate calls that wasn't resolved and was flooding my house. The soonest a technician could get to my house was 2 weeks. I called in for an exception so that the issue could be addressed by a non-AHS contracted company. Was granted the exception and sent a packet of paperwork to fill out. They want to speak directly with the technician as to what each charge line item of the invoice will be. Companies will not allow their technicians to speak to the insurance company.
I called in and explained this and was told to provide the invoice with line items and other paperwork and to file the claim. It took me 10 more hours of calls to get where I was supposed to send the required paperwork. Then nothing. No response. 11 months later a rep was able to tell me they said no because something I had done didn't match their checklist. None of this information was shared with me and I had done as they asked and there is no department, email or anywhere you can follow up with. The reimbursement for my claim will be less than 20% of what I had to pay for the repair. How they get out of paying, no technicians available and you can't wait 2 weeks.
Second issue, new A/C unit not working properly. Called in for a diagnostic and solution. No response received and the item was closed. Upon routine maintenance (which I pay for) the technician can see no work was done on the unit. I call in to advise work was not done and if I continue to use the A/C a new unit will be destroyed. Again multiple hours of calls, neither the company nor the vendor has provided me with a copy of the work order to show what was done. Was told to wait about a week until everything can be cleared up or I can pay again for another service call. It's 100+ degrees where I live. This is a pretty typical interaction with them. 3-5 calls to get an issue resolved. If you buy a new house and don't know the maintenance level of the home, a home warranty is probably worth it. Once you have updated and know the maintenance level of your home, they are not worth it.
We do apologize for the inconvenience. It is not our intent to cause such a delay in your service requests. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further in this matter.

The rate goes up every year but other than that, my experience with American Home Shield is okay. There was one thing though. When they wrote up the contract, I thought the garbage disposal was part of it. It turned out it wasn’t. So I didn’t care for that because now, I have to pay for it in full myself. But if American Home Shield selects a contractor that I’ve had poor experience with, they’re really nice in changing it. I appreciate that. For my Whirlpool dryer, it was GM Appliance Service that came out and the gentleman was really nice. He replaced the parts that needed replacing.

I had an issue with my dryer, and the first time contractors came out, it was tripping a circuit breaker. Once it was determined, the tech wanted to check the vent runs from the dryer to outside. He discovered that that was clogged. And he said, “That’s probably a problem. You have to get that fixed, and we’re gonna do that.” And he promptly left.
When I called back and followed-up for my dryer, that’s where the issue came in. It was unreal. I was on the phone for 40 minutes then it hung up on me. I called back three more times, and it hung up on me again and again. At this point, I was not a happy camper. I called another number that I found, and it seemed it got me through a little bit better, but still I had to continue to wait. During that time of hanging up, I might’ve wasted a good hour and 20 minutes. When I tried the other number, I was not feeling very good about talking to anybody at that time.
Otherwise, once they get their service fee, they’re pretty happy in getting that, especially if they didn’t even have to do a thing. Then the tech came out and he took the dryer apart. He determined what it was was a loose wire. So when he started it back up, he heard a bearing was starting to go out on the dryer. And he said, “We can fix that. But the problem is we don’t have the part.” The bottom line was he said, “If you were just dealing with us directly, we could probably get that bearing taken care of within a day or two. But since I’m dealing with American Home Shield, they have to order the part.” I asked him how long will it take and he said five days. For my wife’s satisfaction, last week I called. Then I explained to her, “I wasted some time that I’m not gonna get back.”
After spending $120 to get that fixed, I had to go through phone hell with American Home Shield again. I’m on the phone again for close to an hour just waiting. Once I got somebody, they tell me I had to get that fixed. I got that fixed, and then they told me I had to email a receipt to the folks who came out the first time. I called back. The wait was a little bit less, but nevertheless, I had to wait. I put it on speakerphone so my wife could hear, and she was satisfied. But by that time, I was really pissed off ‘cause I don’t like calling and waiting. I’m a very patient man, but my patience has grown very thin with American Home Shield. Unfortunately, I told my wife, “We’re gonna start replacing stuff.”
That was a Friday. I called them back, and they told me that the part will be in Saturday, and I’m supposed to get a phone call today to set up an appointment for the gentleman to come by and fix my dryer. In the meantime, I am going through laundry hell. I called my mother and father, and I said, “My wife and I have small loads that we have to get washed.” I’m still waiting. By the next two hours, I’m just gonna go ahead and go through phone hell again to find out when I’ll get my dryer fixed. If AHS and the contractor company were a little more efficient, I wouldn’t rank them low or not recommend American Home Shield to anybody.
I admit the coronavirus probably had a lot of people at home wearing out their equipment like mine. I can understand that. What I don’t understand is if you’re taking X amount of money out of me once a month, and then turnaround and charge me per visit $75, which I find that to be tacky. It’s almost like a racket. Come to think of it, last year, although it was free because it was part of my contract when I bought my home, my hot water heater went out, and when I went to replace it, it seemed like it cost me more. My wife told me, someone came out and took care of this. Then there was a funny issue about something that’s required on the hot water heater that American Home Shield did not cover which cost me $300 because it was a city ordinance. I was like, “Wait a minute, I’m paying for this?” But then, like I said, my wife, she convinced me to go ahead and renew it.
I’m not saying that all of it is bad. Pipe Solutions came out and I had two problems. Submitting the claim over the phone was easy. It didn’t take any time. I had a toilet that was running, and the tech replaced the flapper on it. It seemed to do the job, but the problem started once again. I just told my wife, “We can live with this. I’m not gonna worry too much about it anymore.” The other problem was I had a leak at a toilet, on the tank, and the tech fixed that. I had no problems out of that. Also, I had a stopped-up sink where they had to come out and snake it. I was ready to pay X amount of dollars, but they said I didn’t have to. But the bottom line, I did ‘cause they constantly keep taking a service fee out of the account where they take my payment out of.
I’m a little weary with American Home Shield. It is an older house and some of the appliances that I have are old. The refrigerator that I got, I told my wife, “We’re not gonna get it fixed. We’re just gonna replace it and just be done with it.” She asked me about the toilet, I said, “We’re gonna replace it with a newer toilet.” I just might as well start replacing stuff. If something goes out or is about to go out, I’d just rather just go ahead spend the money and just get a new one. American Home Shield may be good for some people. But for me, it’s a trying thing. They’re good, but they’re sneaky. I am gonna let American Home Shield go at the end of my contract, which is in November. I probably won’t be renewing them because of this experience.

My refrigerator was leaking water from the bottom and my washing machine had stopped. Filing the claim with Home Shield was pretty easy. It wasn’t difficult to navigate the website and get that done. The only thing was when you click on file a claim, it kinda reroutes you back to your homepage. It took me a couple of times before I figured out what I needed to click on my account page. If that could be a little bit smoother.
As soon as I got it done, I got an email almost immediately with what company was gonna be coming out and their phone number and address. Georgia Boy Electric was sent out and the tech called before he came. It took him no time to fix my refrigerator. A hose or something had frozen over and he took five minutes to get that fixed. Then, he checked out my washing machine and told me exactly what was wrong. He said he was gonna write it up and that it would be cheaper for Home Shield to replace it than to force him to fix it. And that process was easy and simple.

Whenever I turned on the garbage disposal, I could hear the motor come on, but it was locked up. The disposal itself wouldn’t turn. I looked in that thing, shined a light down there, and looked all around but I couldn’t see anything. I finally gave up and called American Home Shield. Draingo of Alabama came out and the power was off here temporarily when the tech came in. He checked it and found a penny and pulled it out. He said to try it and see when the power comes back on and that he was sure it would work and it did. I also had a claim for the washing machine. It has a big hole in it and they sent a repairman out here. He determined it couldn’t be fixed so they paid for it. I had a new washing machine put in and I got paid for it. I’ve tried different warranties in the past and I’ve always come back to Home Shield.

The pool pump wasn't turning on. We looked and there was electricity going to the pump area. It just wasn't coming on to have the vacuum or the fountain go on. Everything kind of circulates in there and nothing was coming on. I logged in to the account online to submit the claim to American Home Shield. It was super easy to use and it said on there that they usually reach out within three days.
Then Expert Pools contacted us right away. It was within two days after I put that claim in, even with all this COVID stuff going on. They were very quick and super professional. They had somebody assigned to come out the following day and we didn't even really know that they were there. They notified us that they were there, fixed the pump, left an invoice on the outside and let us know they were leaving. So it didn't disrupt what we were doing that day but we had the pump up and running.
Since we're trying to find something to do at our house while we're stuck there or while things aren't open and it's super hot, it affects us when something like that doesn't work. But we were able to get in that pool that same day. The pump is actually better now than it was before too. The old pump was a little noisy and in doing whatever they did, they adjusted whatever needed to be adjusted. It's super quiet now. Everything is working perfectly. Expert Pools was awesome. I'm very satisfied.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

Our dishwasher rack broke. Also, something was wrong with our washing machine where it would always be unbalanced. And so, it would take hours to wash a load because it would never balance out. And then the vent hood was shaking and vibrating and was really loud. We submitted a claim online, and then we got a call from the AAA Appliance Repair and we scheduled an appointment. They came out, did an assessment, talked about that we needed to order parts, and then, they did that and left. And then we haven't heard from them for three weeks.
This was just before the lockdown when they came out the first time, and then we had the quarantine. And then they didn't know if they were an essential service so it took them a long time to come back out. And finally, we said, “Well, okay. If you’re not gonna come out, then give the parts to somebody else and let them come out ‘cause we need this stuff fixed.” But when they actually came to do the work, the guy was very professional and very nice. Overall, it’s a good experience and it has been with American Home Shield. It just works.
One thing I didn't like is that last year we had one rate, and this year, they raised it because we used them. It’s not bad because they actually get the job done. They send the people out, and the people they contract with have actually done a good job. We had an electrical thing, and they did that, and they did a wonderful job with it. We’re pretty pleased.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

I put the call in with AHS on February the 1st and they sent out Greenway Home Services to repair my washing machine. Their service was great but my claim didn't get resolved until April. They had to order a part but AHS never had an ETA on when it was going to come. What they ended up doing was having to replace the washing machine. They said they were going to expedite it but nothing was done. Also, I was treated rudely several times by American Home Shield. I would call and ask why I had to tell them about my problem over and over when they had my claim documented.
Plus, I'm disabled and I have a daughter who is also disabled and in a wheelchair. She wears pull-ups and I have to change her sheets a couple of times a day. I was trying to wash our sheets in the tub or to get to the laundromat, then COVID hit and I was still trying to do all that but it seemed like nobody cared. I was spending $50 to have our clothes washed and I was going to the washer three times a week. I went through that for some months but AHS did not reimburse me for my expenses. Right now, I am very skeptical about AHS but I know I need the warranty because I'm on a fixed income. If something would be broken and I didn't have money to buy a new one, I'd have a little peace of mind. But it feels like you'd have to wonder if they're gonna do the service. Then after complaining and waiting for so long, you wonder if you're gonna be treated fairly or if your claim will be handled when you make the phone call to them.
We do apologize for the inconvenience, and would be more than happy to speak to you in hopes of a resolution. We do understand that being without a washer can be a hassle, also due to health concerns. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

I had an issue with the water heater. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and the first time that they sent out a tech was a little tough. But sometimes those people that they use to do their service are the people that they can get contact with, which is understandable. But if I was gonna get something fixed for myself and I didn't have insurance, and I would choose a contractor, it wouldn't be the one that they chose to send out. But afterwards, they sent out Sears and the guy was awesome. My experience with him was fantastic and the service was quick. He was sweet and he knew what he was doing. It was easy and he fixed it. In the end, we had to get a new one as the old one was completely destroyed.

My AC went out and I called in and submitted the claim for a contractor to come out and do the repairs. I went through the automated prompt system and a rep called me back. She told me that she was gonna assign the claim to one of their contractors and somebody would be in touch with me within 24 to 48 hours. Ace Heating & Cooling called me and they told me ahead of time when the rep was gonna be coming out, which was the following day. The tech called me 30 minutes before he came and told me he was on his way. When he got here, they called and told me that he was here. He took a look at the unit and he told me he diagnosed what was wrong and what was the next step. The compressor went out and he would have to get in touch with American Home Shield and provide them with the information.
He let me know the next step would be whether or not AHS was gonna approve the work to get it done. He had to do some additional analysis on the unit and there are certain things that AHS wouldn't approve, which would have to come out of my pocket. It was almost $1,200. I wasn't expecting that part and I was a bit disappointed on that one. I've never used AHS before and when I got in touch with them, they told me all I had to pay was a $100 service fee. And I had to pay it before I even got to talk to a rep or got the claim submitted.
I contacted the company again and I told them what I was gonna do. We needed the AC unit because it was getting pretty hot and the tech submitted the claim. AHS approved part of the claim. I still had to come out of pocket over $500, which I wasn't expecting, and I had to pay for them to put Freon in the unit as well. I ended up having to get a credit card and put in the amount that was charged to me on there. If I didn't get approved for the credit card, what next? My AC unit wouldn't have been fixed. But the unit has been good and it's been working great since they came out. It started cooling right away after the tech finished doing the work and got the unit running.

We've lived at four different places and we've had American Home Shield since we bought our very first house. It's been 20 years. We transferred the policy every time or when the seller purchased the warranty, we always said, "American Home Shield." Their claims process is very easy even though that online stuff is all new.
All Flow was our designated contractor for an air conditioner issue. It felt like things weren't getting cooler and not coming out of the vents. They came out and checked that. They said when the people built our house in 2002, they really didn't do a good job on the ductwork. The contractor was very good and was able to tell us how to maintain our system just until we can get a loan to put a new AC in next year and get the ductwork fixed.
I was in real estate and I used to recommend American Home Shield. I did so with my daughter. I think the company has gotten better over the years. I just wish that they would replace things a little bit more rather than constantly having people come out and come out. That was just some past experience with my last house. Other than that, I'd recommend them.

In a conversation in one of my classes that we had, someone said their air conditioner clunked out on them and they had to pay over $3,000. Someone mentioned Home Shield and I looked it up, did my research and I said, "Oh, okay. Got it." I just go online and submit the request and things of that nature there. I wish when you do go online and submit the request that you can put in more comments. It doesn't really give you the option to write down what's going on. You just select whatever the appliance is and it just gives you some pre-formatted options and you just have to try to pick the closest one to it, but you can't explain. That would be helpful. Apex Appliance Service and Repair came out for the washing machine. The guy came in, identified a problem, and he also identified another issue. He fixed it and it was good to go. It took him 40 minutes, give or take. He had the mask and gloves on. We left him alone in the area that he needed to be in.

So, the technician was able to come out and get it charged up, and now it should be just fine. He got the job done. He was in and out in a hurry and certainly not wasting any time. The other claim was for the microwave. The magnetron and start-up diode had died out. The technician was able to come out and got it diagnosed. It took a little while to get the parts because it’s older but he came right back and got it installed and working. So, it was heating up everything properly. Then, we realized all the lights and everything had gone out. So, he took it into the shop and returned it the next day 100% operational.

But the contractor could only fix the sink in the kitchen. When I submitted the claim online, the website was user-friendly. Everything was pretty much laid out. But it wasn't as detailed as I think it could have been. If you had a problem with the plumbing, you should be able to put in there more specifics of what you needed. Because when the contractor came, the tech knew nothing about the shower because I had nowhere to even say that the shower was leaking as well. They knew it was plumbing and they knew something was wrong with the kitchen sink, but they didn't know what they were getting into. So when you select a specific category or item that needs to be fixed, you should be able to put in there, either in a comment box or just be more specific on why and what you need them to fix.
The contractor was excellent. They confirmed before they came in if they need a mask, which they did not need. They made sure we were comfortable. They told us how they had to come in and out. They used the sidewalk. They didn't walk through my grass. We had them come over a couple of times and they were friendly, they joked, and they talked the whole time. They were okay with our pets. I'm completely satisfied.
So far, we've had excellent service with the warranty. I haven't had any issues contacting American Home Shield by phone or online. The contractors that came out were extremely friendly. I'm one of those people that don't like new people, so having a stranger come to my house already makes me feel awkward. But at no point in time did I feel awkward or unsafe about the contractors walking upstairs or to a different part of my house unsupervised. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to anybody, especially if somebody is buying a house like we just did. They are friendly and they answer the phone.

The air conditioner outside was doing a loud humming sound. It needed three pounds of Freon and Relaxed Heating and Air put a condenser in the air conditioner outside, and it stopped that humming noise. I wish they would give a senior discount and that they would cover more for the amount of money that I pay instead of them keeping on going higher and higher and the same things are getting covered. Nevertheless, I’ve had good experience with them overall.

Our toilet was not flushing. I called Home Shield and I also did the claim online. Submitting the claim was easy. Home Shield had Lil’ John’s Plumbing come out for that. But I had already used the plunger to fix the toilet before the technicians came in so when he came in, he didn’t really see anything wrong with it. But I was like, “No, but it keeps doing this. I have to get my plunger two or three times a week to fix it.” And we would just use our toilet often normally. I had to prove to him that there was an issue. The tech couldn’t figure out what the issue was. As he was leaving, I was cleaning the bathroom and I flushed it. It clogged up again. He got the snake and took out some old stuff that was in there. Our toilet has been working since he left. We are allowed to use the toilet again. It helped.
I had two toilets that were broken but the tech said it needed to be a separate claim. It was supposed to be one toilet. The tech said there was only one toilet in the claim too. But he went and looked at the second toilet. That one keeps clogging up but I’m just gonna get a snake myself and try to fix it. When I made the claim, the Home Shield website was nice. The only thing was the site didn't let me put how many toilets online so I just put toilet issue. The tech looked at the other toilet but again, it was flushing because I had already used the plunger. Right now, it’s messed up again.
He tried putting toilet paper in there. It was working the day he was there. I should have left it broken but it was stinking up so bad that I went and did it myself until he came. I used the plunger this morning and it works. It’s working now. Next time it messes up, I might call Home Shield again. I never called Home Shield back because the tech said it would have to be another 80 bucks. I was not gonna do that.

I was getting locks changed. When the tech came out, it was very straightforward. He changed four locks and he was very helpful. I had a boiler issue before but American Home Shield didn’t solve that. The tech just said that the system was fine, but nothing changed after that. I’m currently having issues with American Home Shield right now. I have a plumbing claim in and I’ve talked to three different representatives at American Home Shield. Each one said they would call me back before the end of the day but they didn’t.
Another issue is that the plumber that they hired for the claim isn’t closing out the claim, and I have like 40 days left on my contract. Between American Home Shield and the plumber, no one is getting back to me. It’s been going on since April 24th and the issue is not fixed. The last time I called, I asked to talk to a supervisor and the rep said, “Why do you need to talk to a supervisor?” I actually felt confident in her rectifying the situation but she didn’t call at the end of the day. I didn’t speak to a supervisor. I was hold on for 30 minutes. I definitely would not recommend them.
The plumbing company that came out has an F in Better Business Bureau. All the reviews were terrible for them saying that they would come, say that a part needed to be replaced, which was what was in my case, and then never call back ever again to follow up to repair the part. American Home Shield doesn't hire good companies, except for the locksmith. They were great. But all the other places have bad Better Business Bureau ratings. They don’t follow through. I’m not impressed.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

American Home Shield’s website was very user-friendly but I was trying to follow up on a group of repairs that I had submitted because we were asking for reimbursement for an installation, and I could not get through to anybody that spoke good English. I would be on hold forever and then it would take about 20 minutes dealing with that person and they would say they couldn’t handle my claim and that they would have to transfer me over. I'd be back at the beginning. Still, the contractor, Ave's Lock and Key, did a great job. There were good vibes and the repair made it easier because we now have the same key for all of our locks. For the most part, AHS is good if you need to submit for a claim or for a service call, but following up with the company itself is a different matter. Getting a contractor out doesn’t seem to be the issue, but getting to talk to somebody that can help when I have a question is different.

The garbage disposal would not do anything. I have tried everything I could to see if there was something holding it up, but I could not find anything. When the guy from Kyle's Plumbing came out, he looked at it and said a lot of times that there was something I could turn on the bottom to unclog. He said that there was not one of those on this -- it was an old-style. So, he ended up replacing it. He was on time and friendly, and he was able to do the repair that day.

I’m a new homeowner and I was advised by a few people that already have home warranties themselves to get AHS. They said it's a good thing to have. It gives peace of mind. If something goes, you give them a call, they'll come out and look at it. And it costs you a lot cheaper than if you didn't have it. Recently there was a smell of old water. I thought it was my trash, but it was the water that was sitting in the dishwasher that was backed up in there. The dishwasher was leaking water inside of it when I'm not using it. I submitted the claim and someone called me and set up an appointment to come out. The contractor came in, and because during these times, he had his mask on, put on shoe covers because I had a carpet.
As he was looking, he was explaining to me what it looks like. He said I need to use the dishwasher a little more. He said there was something loose with the wiring. He tightened it up for me. He said sometimes it's normal to have a little water down there, but I could take a little bit of bleach and mix it in if I wanted to and just pour a little bit of water in there. So far after the service, I haven't seen water backup in there. I was very satisfied. I don't have the smell of old water sitting there.

American Home Shield has been so good to me. I try to do everything over the phone when submitting a claim and every now and then, I have a long wait depending on how busy they are. But once you get ahold of someone, it’s usually a pretty smooth process. I had to have the AC fixed immediately and All Comfort Specialist was very prompt. They had somebody out the next day and it was excellent. But on a washing machine issue that we had, American Home Shield sent somebody out from Sears and the tech didn’t seem like she wanted to work. I complained to Home Shield about it and they sent someone out two days later to look at it and do the job, and that guy was excellent.

Things have not been going too great with AHS, but it's not too bad either. We’ve submitted three issues, one of which had to be resubmitted. The first issue was a plumbing leak, and we were extremely impressed with the guy. He came out, looked at it, and got it fixed in 10 minutes. The second one was to change the keys to the locks. The locksmith came out and unfortunately, wasn’t able to rekey either of the locks that we had due to the manufacturing specifics of the brand. We ended up buying a new lock. I took it into his shop and he rekeyed it to what the other lock was. The two doors had different keys for them. For the one that I took into his shop, we didn’t have a key for the one that got replaced.
The third issue was our faucet in the kitchen was and still is leaking. I was not too impressed with the guy who came, but I wasn’t with him for that long. However, my wife wasn’t impressed with him either. He said that the faucet needed to be replaced, and then he said that he was going to get authorization from AHS because apparently, it was a high-end faucet. AHS has a limit of 250 that they'll pay. They closed out that issue without fixing it or communicating with me about it. I was not super pleased about that. I resubmitted the claim and it’s still open right now.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since 2005. I never canceled, I always used them and it's been great. But with my recent claim, they said it wasn’t covered. So, it wasn’t a good experience this time. I called. They even told me, “This claim was submitted online.” I said, “Impossible because I never go online. I just dial the 800 number.” I’ve been turned down before over the past 15 years I’ve been with them. But this one was weird because it said it was pre-existing. I don’t know how it was pre-existing because the lights were working, and then they stopped. But then they said they’re outside. They’re on my deck. They’re in the outside of my patio door. So, that section of light stopped working. But I wish they would’ve told me that it wasn’t covered when I submitted. I wouldn’t have paid the $75 and I just went and got it fixed myself like I have to.
The contractor was a young guy and he couldn’t find the source of the problem. He said he was gonna have to talk to his boss and they were gonna have to come back out. And I don’t think they wrote it up right. The electrical problem was inside of the house. I hired somebody myself and the problem had to be fixed from the inside. But the contractors are usually pretty good and the people that come out diagnose pretty quickly. But this time, I don’t think he was the one to diagnose this correctly. And so, the information that American Home Shield got was from these people who come out and diagnose. And if they write it right and say really what the problem is and where it’s coming from, it could be covered. But if they’re not doing it right, then it's not.
My claim started April 10th and it just ended three days ago. It was over a month. I was on the phone with American Home Shield at least four times. They were, “Oh, the contractor hadn’t called.” Then I called the contractor. The contractor said, “Yes, I did call.” Then they said, “Okay, yeah. We found it.” And then some of the people who were talking, they couldn’t understand me, so I’d hang up and call back. And two times, I was on the phone holding for an hour while they were connecting me or waiting. This was the worst experience that I’ve had. But to be fair, I’ve had some good experience as well.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

I have put in a claim for our AC unit and the contractors are still working on it. This issue has been going on too long and they've been out four times. The guy that had come out before said not to call Home Shield but I could call him directly. That became a huge problem because I did that and AHS was unaware. But they're trying to correct it. Today, I spoke to the technician that came out Saturday because they ordered a part and the installation department was supposed to come out when the part comes.
The head guy that came out Saturday said that the very first technician who came out caused the problem because he stuck the refrigerant directly into the water pan instead of down below in the PVC pipe. He blew it out and that was why it's leaking now. I tried to tell them from the beginning it was the water pan and I even have his text message to prove that he agreed. Then he said they needed to put in another work order. I'm worn out with this whole thing and I'm done with it. It's been hell and it's been very stressful.
I tried to get a new person out and I talked to two reps and they said they were going to call me back but they never did. Then I held for two and a half hours last Friday and it was 12:30 in the morning when I finally hang up my phone. I was in tears and I was so worn out listening to that song over and over again for two and a half hours trying to reach somebody who could help me. Then finally, I was sounding desperate and the other people worked with me a little bit. It's been tough with both AHS and the contractor and the fact that the reps promised they would call me back and help me and nobody did. I felt helpless.
Every once in a while, the plumbers have come out for this issue but it's never been like this. I've used Home Shield a couple of times when I had the same problem. For the original issue, the water pan was clogged. If you don't pour bleach down in it, it gets yucky and it gets clogged up. It's a natural occurrence and it happens every two to three years. They had to go in there and blow it out.
My sister told me to get another company but I told her AHS is the best. They helped me in the past with my plumbing and it had been successful. They also came right out and helped me out with my tub, toilet, sink, air conditioner and water heater. I'm all alone and I depend on them to help me. I am satisfied with Home Shield but I am not right now. I will still recommend them even though I'm having a bad experience and even though they never called me back.

My first claim ever with Home Shield was for my oven and I was really upset with the way things kinda happened all the way around. I called in and submitted a claim and I was told somebody would get back to me within 48 hours. And that’s how it normally works but I ended up calling four days later. The contractor said they had called and left messages, but they had one number wrong at the end of my phone number, which I thought was kinda weird because Home Shield said they gave the right number.
The contractor couldn't come out for a week and when they came out, the gentleman said that he had to order a part. Also, we had porcelain tile on the floor and I didn't want him to just pull the stove out. I had him put cardboard under it so he wouldn’t scratch the tile and he was a little bit funny about that, but he did it. Then, he gave me the paperwork and told me that it would take a couple of weeks to get the parts, which I could understand.
The second time he came out, there were two or three things listed on the paper that he had given me originally as far as the parts but he only changed one part. And he messed with the controls on the front. When he was fixing it, he put it in Celsius instead of into Fahrenheit like you normally have it. I don't know how to use Celsius and I told him that he needed to put it back into Fahrenheit and have my oven right for me. He said I would have to read my manual. But he's the repairman and it wasn’t like that before he changed the part.
I complained to him and I told him he ought to fix it. He said he had a lot of calls and he got real cocky-like with me. Then, he went outside and when he came back in, he said he had to leave, that it was my responsibility to fix the thing. After he did the thing, I would assume that he would put a thermometer in there or something to make sure it was right or something like that, but he didn’t. I was really unhappy with the way things were. I called the company and the girl from the company gave me the same answer he did. He got his stuff together, left, and left my stove in Celsius. I was shocked and I was pissed.
I have not had an oven close to four weeks at that point and was really upset because I use my oven, especially with all this COVID stuff right now, I'm baking and doing things just to have things to do. I was ticked. I yelled for him as he left asking if I don't get some kind of paperwork and he was out on the street. He wouldn’t really respond to me and he didn’t explain things. He didn't communicate well with me. And that was what was part of the problem because I would assume every service call, you’d get some kinda paperwork on what was going on or whatever. He said he gave me paperwork the first time and they don't give us anything after that.
It took me a while with the manual because I’m 69 years old and I’m not that great with stuff like that. Then, I baked some muffins the next morning and I put them in for a lesser time, but they burned. I thought I better watch it better and I didn't think a real lot of it. But then, a few days later, I did a frozen pizza in the oven for my husband and me. I set the timer and it burnt. I called Home Shield and they said they would get the contractor back out here. The contractor didn't respond to me and when I finally called in, the lady called back the next day. She said the guy is afraid to come out here. She said he was afraid of me and that he’s afraid of his well-being to come into our house again. She said I was crazy acting with him and I told her I wasn't. I just was trying to get him to put things back like it was. I was friendly with him but he didn’t explain things and I got angry.
American Home Appliance then came out and their guy was great. He was here for a while checking and moving things. He said one of the things on the back for the thermometer to measure things and stuff was kind of off-space where it should have been. He was testing it and letting it go through cycles and he was doing things with it. But I wasn’t totally happy with that, either, and I didn't call back. He told me I should use it in a different cycle instead of using the way I had always done. This has convection and I would usually use it in the convection way of using the settings and stuff. But he couldn’t get it quite right and he said I should be using the bake way instead of using the convection, which didn’t quite make sense to me. But he was really good at talking to me about other appliances. I asked him about cleaning my washer because I asked him if he does other appliances and he was good at giving advice on that.

I have two fans in my house. In one fan, the cord going into the fan to the motor part of it where I couldn’t turn it off and on, the light part of it, broke. So, I had to turn everything off by the home switch. The only thing I was disappointed with that was I didn’t have a chain. Salvador came out on the 28th. They just put that fan on a string. But my husband and I just went ahead and bought a chain and fixed it on that one. And then the other fan that was in the kitchen made a noise when it turned and Salvador just tightened up one of the blades on it. That was all they needed to do to get everything up and running again. The technician was very professional and very friendly.
There are a few things that I’m not a 100% satisfied with, but it is what it is because it’s stated in the contract that Home Shield is not going to do. The one thing that I don’t like about them is the ratings of some of the vendors that they have in their company are very low. Recently, I have a broken pipe underneath my house, and I did a review on the company that they sent out and their ratings are not a 100%. So, I’m going outside and getting a second opinion. I have a guy coming today to run a camera down to make sure I have broken pipes and that it’s on my side. The first company wanted to come and do the work on the house, but they haven’t run a camera just to make sure that it is broken underneath the house.
Stuff like that makes you worry because their statuses from what people are saying about them are not a 100%. So, you have to give and go. But overall, I’m satisfied with the coverage. There are things that I’m very grateful for by having the home warranty because I would pay more money to get an issue fixed if I didn’t have my warranty. You always have something extra to back you up if something breaks in your house.

AHS may or may not help customers. There have been times when there are always loopholes in their coverage. Their policy is very specific and has many different technicalities between the coverage of plumbing and electrical issues. With plumbing, I found that I could have a leak but it has to leak in. It can't leak outside.
Most recently, their contractor Blue Star Plumbing LLC came out to look at our plumbing which was old and leaking. They said they couldn't fix it and I had to redo my plumbing. They gave me a quote to do that to fix the leak. AHS usually sends out Blue Star. They're always pretty nice when they come out. However, when they came out before for a leak on the other side of my bathroom, they had to come three or four times before they fixed it.

I just renewed with American Home Shield for the third year running. I'm extremely satisfied with them. When I had a problem with my water heater, the whole thing was taken out and replaced. A new one was put in. It only cost me like $200. It was awesome. I saved $1,000 or more right there. The claims process is great too. When my sink was backed up, I put a claim in on Friday and AHS assigned Advanced Home Services. A tech came out on Saturday. No matter what I ever had, AHS always sent people on Saturday.
My sink is working again. The tech also discovered something that is the responsibility of my HOA. It was good because I was able to tell the HOA that there's a potential for a much bigger problem. I live in a building with eight units. Apparently, the problem is where everything comes together underneath. Where pipes go together is where the tech thinks there is a clog. The HOA had that problem in another one of our buildings so they were happy. They said they were gonna put it on the list to flush the whole thing out. I'm extremely happy with AHS. I recommended them to one of my neighbors and she got the policy too.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

We had Home Shield while we were in our old house. I thought about not continuing with them when we bought this house because it was a newer house. But we didn't have it inspected when we bought it so I thought it would be prudent to go ahead and get the house covered. We’ve been with Home Shield since. They made changes on their call-in and I’d just soon have two root canals than have to call those people.
I would get a robot and then I would ask for customer service. They would start directing me immediately to the internet and due to COVID, it would d go through that whole ritual of the COVID-19 and an unbelievable number of calls. I don’t wanna try the internet. I wanna talk to somebody and I wanna get it done. But it takes about anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes to get through the roadblock and finally get to somebody. And when I get to somebody, a lot of times the people are hard to understand. But they’ve all been helpful, very friendly, and very professional.
They need to vet their technicians a little bit better. But with our pool pump claim, Watertight was great to work with. I like them and they're the best technicians that American Home Shield has ever sent out here. The major pump that runs the pool went out and Watertight put in a new pump. But it started having problems as well and they had to come out and replace that pump. Now, we finally got that done and it’s all squared away. I’m happy.
I understand how Home Shield's business is set up. They come out to fix things and they're not coming out to replace things. If something is going bad and it’s breaking piece by piece, it suits American Home Shield a whole lot better doing $100 at a time than doing it all at once. But I’m still the guy that has to call and do that. I pay the $100 for them to come out and then I get something that’s put together with bubblegum and duct tape. Then, it breaks again and we would start the process all over again, waiting for the technician to show up. It’s pretty much a pain in the neck sometimes. But Home Shield does a pretty good job of trying to make it as easy as possible to do business with them as can be.
All in all, I’m considering what we’ve been through in the last couple of months and I’m really glad we have Home Shield. Somebody was saying that they were gonna start shopping for another insurance deal out there and I said there's only one that they can go to and that’s American Home Shield. In my opinion, they're the only ones out there worth working with.

Every contractor I've met through them has been pleasant. I submitted a claim through AHS's website for a pool issue. AHS's contractor, Clear Water Management, Inc. was really easy to communicate with. They came rather quickly and when they went to switch my pool on, it wasn't operating. The problem was that the pump itself was leaking. Plus, the filter was not turning over. It turned out that both of those needed to be replaced.

I have two air conditioners on the house, and our downstairs unit quit working. So, I got on the American Home Shield app and I put in a brief synopsis of what my issue was. I hit a couple of buttons and submitted. It was very easy and painless. Within a few minutes, they emailed me and said my claim was submitted. A couple of hours later, I got an email from Fleshers saying they scheduled a tech. Two guys came out the following day and isolated the problem then they went back and handled all of the paperwork with American Home Shield. That was on a Saturday and on that following Monday, they came and repaired the AC. It was all done very quickly and very well.
The tech that came out was a senior guy and he said that his company only deals with American Home Shield anymore because they have so many problems with other warranty companies. He also said American Home Shield has approximately 66% of the home warranty market. He told me that after I had already done my research through a company and others. I made my decision to go with American Home Shield and so far, so good. I'm very happy. I’ve had two other previous home warranty companies that were absolute garbage.

We had a really large windstorm then the next day when we came outside and the pool started up, I noticed that there was a pretty sizeable leak from the filter in the pool. But I wasn't sure whether it was caused by something from the storm or it just was a coincidence. I went ahead and tried to fix it myself but I couldn't get it to work. So, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it was pretty easy through their website. They sent out Breakthrough Pools and the gentleman that came out took the pool filter apart. Then he cleaned the filter, reinstalled the gasket, added some sort of sealant to it, and put it right back into service. He also had to retap the clamp that holds it in place. So he kinda solved all these little issues with it and put it back right as new.
We had another claim for the pool where Breakthrough Pools also came out. Both times, it had been the same gentleman and I'm not sure if he's the only employee, but either way, they've done a great job. The guy was very responsive and he did more than what was listed on the claim. If there was some small adjacent issue to it, he addressed that as well. When he was here for the pool filter claim, he said that one of the screws on the clamp that holds the filter together was cross-threaded. So, he took it apart and rethreaded it for me. And I didn't worry about it. The time before that, I had a pump leak issue but he fixed a couple of small issues while he was out there as well. So the service was outstanding and I'm happy with them.

When I submitted a claim for my refrigerator problem to American Home Shield, their contractor Ericksen Appliance came out when they said they would. Their techs were very professional and polite. We’ve had work done on our refrigerator before through another contract and we had a ton of issues with them. This was a 180-degree difference. The techs had to get a part which took a couple of days. Still, everything went fine and they resolved my issue. Things have been great since then.

I didn't have a good experience with Choice Home Warranty. I didn't like the customer service and some of the policies and things that they had. American Home Shield seems to have better quality people and the interactions have been pleasant. I've had three technicians come to my home. The process of getting someone out here with the COVID-19 took a little bit longer. But I was satisfied with the amount of time it took someone to get out here. The first guy came to fix my dryer because it wasn't drying the clothes and it was good. Then, he came to fix my dishwasher because it wasn't draining or drying the dishes. He fixed it and it started draining, but it wasn't draining again. He said he fixed the pump and everything on that and he had to get a plumber out here.
He asked American Home Shield to send out a plumber because he wasn't a plumber. He couldn't snake the drain. They brought a guy out here to snake the drain from another company and he wasn't able to do it because the ticket said it was the garbage disposal. He didn't do anything and left. He said I had to fill out another ticket. I called American Home Shield back. They sent another guy out here and he said it was the wire or the lines. He had to get with American Home Shield and see if they were gonna cover the deal.

First of all I will say I have been a customer of theirs for a long time and continue to do so. From my experience they are better than the others out there. That said, it is always a fight to get covered items replaced. So much so in some cases I have given up and just replaced the item myself as it was not worth the hassle. This last instance was the straw that broke the camel's back.
We have "replacement value" on our contract. Our faucet broke and after several days the plumber comes by after missing our appointment twice and simply states AHS will not cover that. This plumber had a terrible attitude and was rude to my wife on the phone. Stated to me that he hates doing AHS jobs and suggested I just buy the appliance I wanted and let him put it in. It has now been over a week since putting in the claim and still no resolution. Between both my wife and I we have called AHS every single day and today's call ended up with the rep disconnecting me after 20 min on hold and now I have to call back yet again.
I put up with the shoddy service because frankly it is a policy we use and overall the coverage works. But I have to say sometimes I feel like it is not worth the aggravation. So far, with the amount of time I have wasted on the phone and waiting for a plumber who doesn't show up I could have replaced the faucet on my own with less stress.

Updated on 5/20/2020: Business Info: American Home Shield (AHS). 150 Peabody Pl. Memphis, TN 38103-3700. 901 701-5000. They do not have a complaint or customer service section to contact. Our Kenmore refrigerator has been broken for 3 weeks now (does not cool at all) and is covered under American Home Shield but they will not help us get it fixed or replaced.
I keep getting cut off by phone when calling AHS. This fridge we bought 2 years ago has been broken for almost 2 weeks now. We have had 2 different companies visit and report back to AHS. We were told it would be very expensive to fix and that parts would need to be shipped in and would take a long time. We need a fridge ASAP. We are a family of 7 and this is costing us immensely.
Per 3 different American Home Shield sent vendors (including Sears) the fridge has both a dead LG linear Compressor and control panel and needs to replace the compressor and the entire door. The agents reported to AHS that repair would be very expensive and take a long time while the replacements need to be shipped to Hawaii. I have called AHS 4 times. AHS keeps insisting they will not cover the fridge either by repair or replacement because AHS insists that their vendors are not reporting to them.
05/13/2020 just received word from AHS (after calling for an update and staying on hold a very long time) that they are now going to send a third vendor to inspect the fridge - now 2 weeks without a fridge during COVID 19 and we are a family of 7. AHS is avoiding doing what they are contracted to do and during this most difficult of times. I asked for their customer care or complaint department and was told they don't have one.
05/18/2020 A third repairman from Sears has now been to our house to repair the fridge and he also could not and confirmed it is the same problem as the last 2 have stated. I tried calling AHS again and got cut off mid conversation. I was told by them they would call me last Friday but did not. We are now a family of 7 living 3 weeks out of a cooler during COVID shutdown. This is immensely wrong. 05/18/2020 We have lost much necessities from still not having a fridge or freezer - including medications that we are now having a hard time refilling. I was told by the latest repairman that this ticket is now closed and now AHS with have to open a 4th new ticket for the same thing. I believe this is fraudulent.
Original review: Our Kenmore fridge has (per 2 different American Home Shield sent vendors) both a dead LG linear Compressor and control panel and needs to replace the compressor and the entire door. Both agents assured me that they reported to AHS that repair would be very expensive and take a long time while the replacements need to be shipped to Hawaii. Both agents said we would likely need to get a new fridge.
I have called AHS 4 times. The last call was 10 minutes ago. They claim that the 2 companies they sent to inspect the fridge did not report back to them. I checked with both companies and was told they reported everything and even stayed on hold and talked with AHS agents for over an hour to help us get this expedited. I just received word that AHS is going to send a third vendor to inspect the fridge - now 2 weeks without a fridge during COVID 19 and we are a family of 7. We are forced to instead buy a new fridge. I have been a AHS customer for many years but cannot take it anymore. It is a complete waste of money. They hire terrible sub-contractors to do their work. If you are tempted to sign up because of the "will replace if cannot fix" then keep moving. Latest example of working with AHS... My air conditioner was not functioning properly so I put in a service request. They came out and stated that a new evaporator coil was needed and "code enhancements" Over $1,000 later it worked for a week or so. They have been back out 3 times since. It still does not work and they will not replace anything. I also learned that the "new" coil they installed was from 2017 and it is now 2020. This is not acceptable in any way.
I had a reputable AC company come out and fix the unit. When I called to cancel AHS plan I was on hold for over 45 minutes before getting a person on the phone who told me that they had to transfer me to somebody else who of course was not available. The hold music kept telling me for faster service to go online which of course you can't do because they have "specialist" whose only job is to attempt to convince you to keep their expensive useless warranty.
After finally getting agreement to cancel service after many years they wanted a $48 processing fee to cancel. That last insult summed up what they are after and it is not helping consumers or providing any type of acceptable service at all. Before that I had a clothes dryer that was making unbearable noise and was told "well it is functioning so there is nothing we can do with it". The pleasure of them telling me that cost $75 for the visit even though they did nothing and fixed nothing. I couldn't stand the noise of the machine and ended up buying a new one so again the warranty was useless. Keep your money and save some each month and just be prepared on your own.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

He was in and out and replaced the ice maker really quickly. I was really pleased with the visit, but unfortunately, the ice maker started doing the same thing again. We've had problems with the ice dispenser and freezer. The ice dispenser has messed up a couple of times and the same guy from Appliance Pros has come out. He has been very polite, very sensitive to COVID, and has worked on it, but it would keep freezing up. Now, he said he couldn't find any air leaks in it so he wasn't sure why it was. He said he would send a note to the company that it might need to be replaced and he left. Then I got a call from them wanting to reschedule this other guy to come and look at it and he came right out. He said that he could find an air leak and he knew what was causing it. He would get the part and be back. So, we haven't heard back from him yet.
Submitting a claim process worked well as far as a work order to have something repaired. I'd go online, log into my account, and do it. What is not good about AHS is that I cannot reach anyone and get a resolution when I'm having a problem or I need to follow up on something. There's no way to send an email from their website. There's apparently a chat option, but I've never been able to get it to work. Then, the service company piece that answers the phone on a call is not always the group that can help me with my call.
For instance, I had a microwave problem back in early March, where the door on the microwave, when we moved in, had been repaired from a crack. It was starting to pull loose and be worse. A guy came out and looked at it, and then he was looking at a piece on the stove that broke the same time. He said he could fix the stove, but he couldn't fix the microwave. I got a call or email from AHS in early March. They received the information that it needed to be replaced and that they would send me an email to refer me to how to get it replaced and to let me approve the replacement. I never got an email. I called the number that I was supposed to call and they came back and said that he would work on repair orders but I needed to talk to someone in new parts and replacement. and so he'd put me through it.
I spent probably 10 different phone calls over the month of March and April where I would be on hold for two or more hours trying to get them to answer, and they never would answer. A couple of times, I got an answer on that number and it would say, "Our hold time is long. Leave your number and we'll call you back," and I never got a callback so I kept trying to call and I would get the general number. When I would tell them what it was doing, they'd say that's who I gotta talk to and they pushed me right through.
At one point, I finally told them not to transfer me. I needed to talk to a manager. They said the manager's not available that time, but they would have him call me. Well, they never called me. I kept persisting and was able to get through to someone. He said to use the chat and I told him that the chat's not working. I finally got through at some point to the right person from the right group, and within days, they were set, they've had it on hold for me, and that they just needed to know if it would be good. I haven't been able to get to them. Otherwise, AHS has been responsive, they come out, the people they send are polite, courteous, and seem to be pretty efficient. We have been very pleased with them most of the time.

I had an issue with my hot water tank. Because I had never had this happen to me, I was frantic a little bit. I called AHS and they gave me a couple of vendors. The first company that was given to me couldn't come out until Monday. I called on Saturday, and the first gentleman I got was very helpful. I was like, "You guys have to give me somebody who's open today, please. I have no hot water." But then, the companies he gave me weren't even open either, probably due to the COVID-19 that they cut their hours.
I called back again and I got this other lady who was arguing with me on why I didn't wanna go with a company that wasn't open. I was like, "Could you please just give me somebody that you know that could possibly be open?" The first gentleman was so helpful. He was really trying to help me. But the second lady thought that I should stick with a company that wasn't open. But then she finally gave me Pruitt's number. Then, I sent in my $100, and then they came out and they sent it to AHS, and then I got an approval from AHS saying that the hot water tank could be replaced. Pruitt came out on Saturday when nobody else could for me and the job was completed by Tuesday.

My toilet was giving me problems and AHS sent out the tech from Greenway Home Services. He came out and fixed it. But then it wasn't flushing right again. It would flush once, then if you'd do it again, it wouldn't take the toilet paper down. The tech tried to fix it and he was wonderful. Every time he came, he wasn't flabbergasted. I've had him before, too. He came for that toilet but it was for something different. There was a leak and my water bill was really high. It turned out that the toilet was running and that gave me a terrible problem because it leaked down into my garage. But he fixed that and he was lovely. He couldn't be nicer.
But the last time that he was here for the flush issue, he said that he flushed it six times. Then the next day after he left, I went to flush it and it wouldn't go down again. It was in my guest bathroom and if someone came over then it didn't flush, it would be embarrassing. Then it happened when my sister went in and she said that I had to get a new toilet because it was not flushing. And after the third time that the tech had been here, I decided to get a new toilet. But American Home Shield was not really happy about getting it and they didn't pay for it.
I'm glad that they sent a technician out though. It took a while to get the service scheduled because I'm a flight attendant and I've been home for a long time because of the COVID thing. But the warranty worked and my experience was good. AHS has been good about getting everyone out there, too. I've had to use them quite a bit and I've had them all the way back from California. I moved here in 2006 and when I bought my place, they had another crappy home insurance thing and I changed immediately to American Home Shield because I was so pleased with their service in California. Usually they're pretty right on it and that's why I've kept them for as many years as I have.

I filed a claim for my water heater and submitting it to American Home Shield was easy. I went online to do it, and the interface was user-friendly. A couple of clicks and the claim was submitted, so the process took no time at all. I was given a timeframe saying that one of the contractors would get in touch with me for the appointment -- it was within two business days. Then, they gave me a six-hour timeframe that they would be here. Jeremiah, the plumber from C Mayes Plumbing & Heating, was great. He was super professional and friendly. He knew exactly what the issue was. He was here for less than an hour, but I was very satisfied with it.
The unit has been awesome since the repair, and it has been better than it was before they came out. That was definitely the fix that I needed. The repair made the day-to-day operations in my home more efficient. This claim was our second claim with them, and we had good experiences on both times. I’m glad that we picked them. They were able to schedule me within a couple of days. When their plumber came in, he checked it out and there was some part inside the faucet that he needed so he wasn't able to fix it. Recently, I had an issue with the timer on my clothes washing machine. Also, when you shut the door of my microwave, the motor would come on but wouldn't go off. American Home Shield sent out A-1 Appliance and the techs had to fix my microwave three times. Then they told me that they couldn’t fix it and it had to be replaced. American Home Shield called and I told the lady who was supposed to send me some stuff that I didn’t know if my email was working or not. But I haven’t heard anymore from anybody if I'm supposed to sign some paperwork or get a check. I just want my microwave replaced and installed.
I want AHS to do what needs to be done and be done with my claim. I’m frustrated and when I called American Home Shield, I stayed waiting for about 45 minutes. When their rep came on, the lady told me that they were updating their equipment and that she couldn't talk to me. Then she hung up on me. It would have been better if she told me that they were updating their equipment, and if I would let her have my name and number, she'd be glad to call me back and take care of my concern when they're done updating. Other than that, I've never had a problem with AHS.

Lex’s was awesome. We’ve used them before we started working with AHS and we were really happy that they were a contractor that AHS works with and that for when you have a plumbing issue, you can select from a few different plumbing contractors. Luckily, Lex’s was one of those. They were just 10s across the board. Every time we work with them, it seems they do some little thing that’s above and beyond. They’ll notice things and when they come out to work on something, they’ll point out to you. They say that this could be a problem too. Sometimes they’ll just take care of it if it’s something small or they’ll recommend service.
They’re also very conscientious, which is the biggest thing with them. But they’re always punctual, they’re always professional. The staff that you call to make the appointments and the technicians that come out are friendly. We’ve worked with a lot of plumbers, but these guys are head and shoulders above everybody else. We recommend them at every opportunity we get to anybody that needs a plumber.
We’ve also done an electrician and an HVAC person. They’ve all done well. There was one hiccup with the electrician, but I don’t think it was the electrician’s fault. The tenant said the electrician didn’t ring the doorbell, but we’ve had some other issues since then when the tenant wasn’t responsive when they were supposed to be there and answer the door. The contractor took care of everything anyway.
Their website is super easy to use. There’s always bad publicity about these home warranties, but our experience has been excellent. However, the deal where you can select your own contractor for the plumbing is not available on all the different types you can do. I’d really love to see that. But that’s not much of a knock because we haven’t had a problem even when they’ve selected the contractor for us. Overall, we’re very happy with American Home Shield.

The website could be a little easier because when I submitted it, I did not see garbage disposal on there. So, I put trash compactor. Then, they had me wait for the whole weekend. And a contractor called me on Friday telling me, "I'll be out. What's the problem?" I said that it was the garbage disposal and he replied that I had to call a plumber.
So then, I had to call up American Home Shield. They said, "We see the guy canceled the initial one. Is there a problem?" I said, "Yeah, the garbage disposal. I didn't see it on there the first time the way you guys have it broken down here on the website. So they said, "Okay," and that they would go ahead and resubmit it. Then the plumbing people from CD Plumbing Fresno called me telling that they would come over Monday between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00. The contractor from was fine. He was fast and efficient. He came in, cleaned up, test drove it, turned the water on and filled up the sink, put o the garbage disposal to make sure there was no any leaks and that was it. I got up Sunday morning and the refrigerator was not working. The lights were coming on, but there was no cool. It was getting warm inside it and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and it was super easy. They scheduled Sears to come out first thing the next morning and the tech fixed it real quick. We're back up and running. We called AHS last year for something with the AC unit and that also turned out an easy fix. I used one of their competitors for a few years and submitting claims with American Home Shield is a lot easier.

I like AHS. It was easy to file the claim for my refrigerator, which was not keeping cold. Someone came out after a couple of days. The contractor was very helpful. He had a mask on, which was wonderful. I have a 90-year old house and the floors are crooked so the refrigerator is on a specially built platform. He had to lift the refrigerator off because it was two inches off the ground on one side. He went way above and beyond.

I had a different warranty company when I bought my home and after the year was up, I was gonna go back with them but they were tripling the price. My son-in-law referred me to American Home Shield, so I went with them. When I first signed up, they did what they said they were gonna do. I've only called them one time but everything went smoothly to me. When I called them for the AC, they said that they were gonna get in touch with the tech and he called. He was on time. He was courteous and nice. He came in and got the job done. Everything fell right on time. He fixed the problem. The AC has been working and it's been good.

The trash compactor wasn’t working. Schubert’s Appliance Repair came out and repaired it and got it all working pretty quickly. They replaced the switch and fixed something else, but it went well. The techs were very professional and friendly. I like the ease and consistency of payment with AHS-- the consistent co-pay and not having to worry about something going out. But my major issue would be on our air conditioning. I’m not happy with the contractor they used. We did not have the best results with them and the people that they send out. So, I try not to use them again. When I request somebody to be on my no-work list, it never seems to be updated. So, every time I call for whatever reason, if it’s that same appliance, I would still get the one that I requested not to use. So I never use the online because it automatically gives me the person I don’t want.

I quit Choice Warranty and we tried American Home Shield. It's been good so far. My smaller air conditioning unit was not turning on so I filed a claim online. They contacted me and set me up with a local vendor. The tech from Bryant's showed up and my wife dealt with him. She said he was personable and professional. He was efficient and he knocked it out. He said the starting capacitor was bad and he replaced it.
Last year, it took AHS a month to approve fixing the compressor. And we had a dryer that’s relatively new and it quit working. They sent a dude out locally and he got the wrong part that didn’t fix it. He said he would be back but he never did so they sent another guy out. A Sears guy came out and said he had to order a part, but then he said it was coming overseas. It took like a month and a half. It was ridiculous to wait that long.
They sent another guy and he didn’t need that part anyway. He said he would be back the next day with a part and he never showed back up. I talked to them about it and they said they would give me whatever allowance on the dryer. I put some money with it and we got a dryer. Then about two weeks later, this part came in the mail. It was a two-month ordeal on just a part on a dryer. The Sears appliance guy had gone out of business so I just took my dryer apart and put that part in and it works so I got two dryers.

I thought I had a leak under my sink, so I called American Home Shield. But apparently, it wasn't leaking. The faucet underneath that you can unscrew where the water comes out was loose and it was making the water go back under the sink and then leak out. My husband and I would've never thought to look at that because we're not plumbers. So, I paid 100 bucks for a tech to come out and screw that on. He was there for two minutes. I was irritated.
Any time I have a service request, I just go online and hit my service request, tell them what I need, they charge my card, and then they send somebody out. The tech made an appointment with me a week ahead of time and he told me he would be out between certain hours on the day that I told him I wanted. He was on time and was very professional. He did his thing and left me a card and said if I had any other issues, I should give him a call. I was still pissed off that it was not a plumbing issue, but he did what he was paid to do. I'm very satisfied.

I thought AHS was a pretty decent company. I’ve had this warranty since April 2019 and Multiple technicians have come out and been unable to diagnose the issue. I recently had a tech come out April 17th who verbally told me the issues but never sent the diagnosis to AHS. It’s now May 11th and the only thing that's been done is an escalation to Contractor Relations. The escalation was initially submitted about 2 weeks ago. Multiple employees advised I would receive follow up within 48 hours and I have to call them 1 or 2x per week to stay on top of this. I've let them know there’s a mildew smell because of the issues and I’ve been unable to run the air. I’m highly disappointed because I don’t understand why at this point another contractor hasn't been dispatched. I was so skeptical about renewing my warranty and I wish I would’ve switched companies at my renewal.

Requested service for pipe leaks and sewer air venting into home. Both HVAC and Plumbing (2 different plumbers) were unable to identify problem. Both AHS recommended plumbers did not follow up with me and left me out to dry. After calling for a followup, could only talk with an outsourced call center that repeated the same scripted message over and over when I asked for the next steps on the leaks. Hired own plumber to fix the sewer vent and multiple leaks at my expense.
I question what exactly is covered in these policies? It seems way to good to be true, and in my experience it is. The wording is very tricky, "how does a tear in a duct" (that I did not do) and a "hole in the duct" not the same thing? The only positive communication and service I received was when I signed up, and when they called me today to ask to renew my service. My favorite comment from the person I talked with today was "Our service gives you peace of mind". *Mindblown! I would happily change my review if someone from AHS would explain to me why their service failed to deliver and what they are willing to do to fix the situation. As a new homeowner, I have learned in the past year that I made many mistakes, trusting my realtor and AHS on this service are some of them.

My husband had noticed that there was a drip inside the return closet. American Home Shield sent out a company, Douglas Mechanical. A gentleman came and said there wasn't anything wrong. But he returned again because he felt like he needed to do a different type of test. When he came, the conditions outside were not suitable. He said it wasn't hot enough for him to test the pressure or whatever he needed to do. A third person came and when he did, it was a totally different diagnosis and totally contrary to what the first two visits led us to believe. We didn't get a good feeling when they just reversed course.
My husband wanted to have a second opinion with another company. A gentleman, named George from Three Brothers, came out and explained what was going on. It wasn't a leak. We didn't need to totally empty the system and recharge all the Freon. George and my husband had a detailed conversation and he gave him a lot of good information. My husband felt like the tech was very knowledgeable. He felt very comfortable with the approach that the George used, the method that he used to test the system, and with the verdict that he came up with. George was very professional. He took the time to go over in detail with my husband and brought my husband to the unit so that he could see for himself firsthand what he was seeing and pointed out his observations. He did a good job. He solved the problem and we haven't had any leaks since then.
Another additional point of pride is even with the invoice copy that George left us with, his writing is so clear and neat. he gave some detailed description under the work detail with pressures, etc. so that later on if we have a problem again and we need to have someone else come out, there's a record that we can provide. With the company Douglas Mechanical, we had three visits from them before we were finally able to clear the board and get the Three Brothers folks on board, who clearly knew what they were doing. It's not convenient to have to have multiple service calls for the same issue. It's a little bit better right now timing-wise just because we're all stuck home anyway. But for safety, preservation of our space and not introducing any potential virus-harboring individuals, we'd rather not have people coming most of the time.

The wires to our heat pump were chewed through by vermin, and it was disappointing to find out that after I paid the monthly plus the $100, they didn’t cover it. It is what it is though. That was an issue that was part of the contract, and there wasn’t anything that I could do about it. It’s part of their rules, which is unfortunate because one of the most common things that happen with wiring is that rodents can get to it. I still think Home Shield is a good investment though.

When we had a plumbing problem, it took three calls before the third plumber solved the problem permanently. But we were very pleased when A-US Air came out recently. The tech got everything done on one trip. There is a limitation put on the amount of coolant that AHS will pay for. There was a leak in the bathroom for which Home Shield sent a plumbing company and the tech changed the little O-ring. The second time, he changed it again and then said that he thought that maybe my issue was that the hot water wasn't big enough for the house. That wasn't what the problem was. And then, the third time, they never showed up. They missed their appointment twice and then they turned around and closed the ticket. I called back, talked to Home Shield, and they sent out Redman because my problems were legit.
Redman came out and they changed out the little stem. But this time, it started leaking again. It's the same exact problem. It's the hot water and I knew it's the hot water because if I shut the hot water heater off, it would stop leaking. Redman is very professional and they got out as quick as they did, but somehow, he overlooked the problem in the first place. And whenever they came out, it was all within a month or so period but it was okay.
Whenever Redman came out again, the tech said that there was this part that was stripped that probably should have been replaced in the first place. And because our part was stripped, every time I was turning the hot water knob, it was tearing up the O-rings which was in turn causing it to leak. So, it really was the same problem. It never got corrected the first time. I had to pay the claim price twice and I really didn't feel like that was fair, now that I know that the problem should have been corrected one of the first times anyone came out. Also, Home Shield told me the last time that I had to pay the $75 because it had been more than 30 days. When I found out that it wasn't a new problem, I thought I should be refunded my $75 because it was the same problem that never got fixed correctly.

Home Shield is fine but they cost too much. We’re paying too much a year. And before the contractor even walks in the door, we have to pay them out. The monthly or yearly payment is one thing and then paying somebody else to come in and do the work, it adds up too much, especially now when no one’s been to work in over two months. We have no control over that but they need to be more lenient with the customers. My wife asked about dropping them but if we do and things break down, then what would we do? We’re caught in the middle. But whenever we call, they respond and do their job well. We've had claims for a few things and the different companies that come usually are fine. There was a leak with the garbage disposal and True Vine Appliance came out. They had to come back to reconnect it. They were A-plus with their professionalism and attitude.

Home Shield has a website but they need an app. None of us could remember our contract number, but it’s good that we could look it up by phone number or by address to get the process going. Also, when I put a claim in, they ask the appliance name, the model number, and so forth. But in certain cases, they have certain predetermined default answers. On some of them, there is no option to put a comment. One of my claims didn’t apply to any of the default answers and it didn’t allow me to answer for one of the options. And then one time, I put in the model number for the refrigerator and the guy came and asked for it. You would think that would be one of the important things they would fill out on the dispatch or the case. If they can print information that we fill out on the website and send that to the repairman, that would be good.
90% of the time, we get pretty good service but there's been a couple of times that Home Shield has denied claims. Before the refrigerator, we had a washing machine that went bad. It stopped running so we put a claim in and they sent one technician out. He said they were denying the claim because it was overloaded. I disagreed and they said they would send a second one out to give a second opinion. When the second guy came out, he told me that it was old and that even if they replaced the part, it's not gonna work properly. He took pictures of it. This washing machine has been here at least 18 to 20 years.
American Home Shield denied the claim saying the repairman gave a completely different report than what he verbally told me in person. When they got the report, it said he agreed with the first repairman that it was due to neglect. I had to call four, five times on that washing machine because we were trying to get the repairman on the phone, but we could never do it. American Home Shield said they would contact the repairman and try to get him on the phone because he lied to my face when he told me what the resolution was and gave a completely different report to American Home Shield. I pay my premium after I pay a service call, they still denied it and I had to go buy a washing machine on my own. That was disappointing because we pay to have this coverage so I don’t have to fork out for big expenses.

The last was not really good, which was why I canceled them. We had a three or four-month episode with a toilet. AHS sent one person out and when the person came out, they said that it was not leaking. I said that I turned the water off because I didn't want leaking toilet water all over my floor. Then they turned the water on and the toilet was not leaking right then. When it started leaking, the same company was sent out. They came out here and the guy said that it was leaking from under the tank where it met the base. I said that every fourth flush, it comes up, but doesn't go down. He said what was wrong with it. He said it was broken and that it had to be replaced. He just needed authorization. That started six weeks of waiting for an authorization that never came.
I called back about three times about that between the service tech not sending in a report. When he did, he said that it was fine, but it wasn't fine. We had the bathroom out of commission for all that time. Then, AHS said that they weren't gonna cover the toilet, they would send out someone else now. I said that wouldn't work. I also said, " You guys charged me and made your 75 bucks. Have a nice time. I'll be canceling." They were terrible.

However, when a water heater goes up, I wanna upgrade. With AHS though, I can't pay the difference. I have to get exactly what I had. While I've put in some of my own money to get something a little better once or twice, that seems to be hard to do with Home Shield. So, whenever I have a claim with washer-dryer issues, I especially request Nice Guys to come out. They are exactly what their company is named and have held up to their standards. They are excellent and I love them.
I'm also having an issue with my garage door and the contractors have come out here several times to work on it. They replaced the master board, the chain and the springs. I can't get my car to program to the garage door opener and the part that's outside the garage door where I push the code in is not working. So, I need to make a new claim. This garage door is so old and I'm so sick of it. They have fixed it so many times but I want it replaced and not fixed.
I've lived in our home since 2002 and there have been costs that come up that we can't really afford out of our pocket. The $50 warranty I bought was fair and when it went to $75, I was a little upset. That's the best backlash but it's okay though. Nothing's going down and everything's going up. I also asked the guy that came over and fixed my dryer how much it would have cost me if I called them out on the trip without coverage. He said it would be almost 300 bucks. So I paid $75 and I got almost $300 worth of work.

Someone from Low Country’s Best Heating & Cooling came, did a quick fixer-upper and this would be the third time to get it done. I checked today, and it’s doing the same thing now. It hasn’t been 30 days even. The issue didn’t get completed and I would like to give them a chance to come and fix it. They need to make sure that it stays the way that it needs to though. The first time, he was there for about an hour and he was doing multiple things. When the toilet started doing the same thing, I had to call them, and he came back out again. The second time he came, it took him about 15 minutes where he tried to figure out what the issue was. He said something about the tube kept coming out where the flow of the water is supposed to go to the tank and it was mentioned to me to try to superglue it too.
Trying to do a fixer-upper every second and having to keep calling back is a waste when it could just be entirely replaced. That’s what the warranty is paid for. I just want to get the problem resolved the first time I call where they don’t have to come back and forth because it takes time away. I have to sit and wait for somebody to come back for the same problem. That happened to me last year with some electrical work too. I had to call other people because American Home Shield couldn’t figure it out.
Nyasha,
I have tried to contact you via email, phone, as well as on the Consumer Affairs site, however, I have not received a response from you. I am here if you need further assistance, just respond to one of the messages sent to you and I will follow up with you from there. Thanks for being a part of American HomeShield.

Rescue Your Air replaced the compressor in the air conditioning unit. They had the wrong part on the truck but they came right on back the next day. The AC now works way better than the one that was originally in here when I bought the house. It’s 10 degrees stronger. Everything seems to be working great with AHS. They do what they say they’re gonna do and that’s all I really care about.

We had water leaking into the hallway. I submitted a claim online with AHS on Sunday. There wasn't an option to select "Other" and input my own description. That option could have helped. Since I didn't know how to categorize the issue, I put "faucet". We needed the faucet repaired. The next business day when I was able to get ahold of the plumbing company, I went into more detail with them about what the issue was. The plumbing company said that they would be out within the next 24 hours. They came on Tuesday.
The company was very thorough. The tech was very careful and took precautions. He was very informative about what the problem ended up being and how it was gonna be fixed. Before proceeding, he said he was gonna need to cut into the drywall and told me that I might wanna contact the warranty program to see if that was covered while he went to go get a part that he didn't have. I did as he said and I was informed that it was covered so we proceeded with the repair. I was very satisfied. It didn't take too long and ultimately, the entire repair was covered. So far, it's been a good experience.

I called Home Shield on the phone, and then they picked a contractor for me that's in my area. They told me that they would send an email or a text message verifying who was coming out and I can give them a call if I needed to. Everything was done perfectly. And then, CAL-HOME was right on time. The tech called me 30 minutes prior to his arrival. He got right to the point, told me what I needed, told me the garbage disposal was old and it needed replacing, then he went to work. They did a great job.

American Home Shield is great. I've had them since October and I like it. It's very important to have it when you purchase a new home. We negotiated pretty hard to have AHS included. I called in to file a claim and it was great dealing with their rep. It was really easy and friendly. Then we were in the hospital during the time of the service. So, we had someone in the house to let Plumb Genius in. But the service went very smoothly.

When I lived in Virginia, I had American Home Shield for about two or three years and I've been satisfied with them. I only had to use them twice. Something went wrong with my stove then and a year or two later, something went wrong with my refrigerator. They were right on time. So, I had decided after we moved out here in North Carolina, once my warranty was up, I was gonna go back to American Home Shield. The McMahon Plumbing technician was professional and friendly. He explained what he was doing, took care of it, and wore a mask. Everything has been working fine since. He told us what he observed the problem to be and took care of it.
The washer was the real problem that I had, and the guy came out a couple of times with new parts to try to correct the problem. He did a great job too, but he couldn’t fix the washer. I was impressed that American Home Shield replaced the amount for my washer. We bought a new one and they gave us enough money to supplement it. My washer costs a little bit more, but I was pleased. I have a new washing machine so I'm happy. As a matter of fact, I had told my son about AHS. He said, “Mom, I already got them.” I've also mentioned to a couple of my friends how pleased I was with the help I got, the technicians were very professional and that I was very happy about being able to get a new washer. My husband kept saying, “Buy a new washer.” I'm like, “No, I'm getting this one fixed.” I didn't want another debt.

My hot water boiler/ furnace was blowing smoke in the house so turned it off immediately and called American Home Shield on 4/27/20. They sent the first technician who didn't how to Oil furnace works and what to look for. He pretended like he knows thing or two and told me that he cannot access the boiler (WHICH IS RIGHT IN - FRONT OF HIM) and said he will talk with his boss and will call back. I never received a call from him or AHS so I called back on 5/4. They told me the technician couldn't access the boiler, there is a wall he need to break to gain access. If anyone worked in old PA houses they all have similar setup, the boiler is under the linen closet and accessible.
I requested AHS to send another technician to help me who knows about oil furnace. They sent another tech out on 5/6 who apparently knew more than previous tech but couldn't fix the issue. He was going to get approval from AHS to spend some more time to investigate the issues. I have been talking with different agents over the phone for last two weeks and getting run around.
The last three times I have been told that they are waiting for the contractor to submit his report. As of today 5/11 (5.05 pm) when I called AHS I was told that contractor is going to submit the report today. First of all the agent on the phone do not have contact information about the contractor they sent to my house, I have to searched and provide them his phone number. Second of all in what world it takes 6 days to submit report. It has been exactly 14 days today and we are still out of hot water, I bought some portable heater since it was cold over the few days. But couldn't find any solution for hot water. I hope this review reaches out to the right person who understand how time sensitive this matter is.

I’m glad some of you have had good experiences because so far I have had the opposite. The horrible experiences outweigh the good by a huge margin! I am so disappointed that I chose this company especially after reading these posts. Here is mine: I am extremely agitated with this company. I switched from another company to AHS thinking they are top rated. My very first call leaves me with a bad impression. I placed a call on 5/3 for my range top and microwave blew out. Initially I was very impressed because a company called A Dobre Day came out the very next day. The contractor looked at our circuit breaker and determined that the oven and rangetop should be on separate breakers (even though it has never been), never looked at the rangetop, did a cursory inspection of the microwave.
They are supposed to write a report and send it in. Now usually this is done while on the premises, but when I looked for the contractor, he had left after speaking to a customer service rep. which happens to be in India or the Philippines. Today is the 7th and I am STILL waiting for that report to be sent in. I have spoken to so many reps, some promising to look into it and call me back (no one ever did). I was on one call for over an hour, only to be hung up on. The contractor has not responded to any calls from me or AHS and I was told yesterday that their guidelines state that the contractor has 48 hours to send the report in. After 48 hours I was told they would give them another day before my claim was escalated. We are now at 72 hours and nothing has changed.
I am furious at this point! This is worse than the company I left! The 100 dollar service charge has been debited from my bank and according to the email sent in 5/5, I have to revoke this authorization 5 days prior to a debit that was placed on the same day as the notification. I sent all my info via Facebook messenger and I got a response that a “social media specialist” will be contacting me. American Home Shield finally responded to my complaint. I actually spoke to someone here in the US, who was very helpful.
Since the previous contractor never responded or sent in a report, they assigned another contractor who showed up promptly today and sent the report in right away. Today 5/10/20, my claim was denied because in their words, "the circuit breaker caused the problem with the appliances, and is therefore not considered normal wear and tear". They would be happy to send someone else out, but if that person comes to the same conclusion I would be subjected to another service charge. I was also assigned a social media specialist Monica ** to assist with the issue, but besides her initial communication, I have not heard from her again.
The kicker is that I had an electrician come out who actually looked at the range top and determined that an internal short had caused the circuit breaker to shut down. This is the complete opposite of what they are saying. There is nothing wrong with my circuit breaker. It seems they are very quick to deny a claim, yet take your money. To prove my case I would have to jump through hoops and in the meantime, I still have no use of my appliances. The contractor that came out said both appliances need to be replaced. I have 7 days to dispute this denial which I will probably just make a decision to cut my losses.
It is very disconcerting when you see a commercial that makes things seem glorious, and find out it is the opposite. No money to pay claims, but money for national commercials and "media specialists" that don't really help. I will file my complaint with BBB so others may be forewarned. I really thought I was signing on with the top rated company. I guess I should have looked at reviews before doing so. I'm very disappointed with this company.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you as I see an agent is in constant contact with you about this matter. I will forward your issue to your representative. Have a great week.

We keep American Home Shield because it’s very convenient. They farm the jobs out to different contractors though and I haven’t always been happy with them. My dish rack in my Maytag dishwasher rusted and the company still makes that rack, but they didn’t put in the same brand. They put in an all purpose one and it has never worked right. It won’t roll in. I’m older and it’s not easy for me to lift the thing up and push it in. I called them and they said, “Sorry, that’s what we do.” It's some cheap thing and I wasn’t happy with that. They also kept saying there was nothing wrong with it, and I kept saying there was. I didn’t get anywhere with them. I always take the positive, but at another time, the air conditioner went out during a heat wave and it was frustrating.
We live in a mobile home, with 104 degrees in my house. I’m in here with a dog and a cat and my husband was gone. The contractor said they couldn't come out for two weeks and that they were sorry. I wasn’t happy with that as well. I understand the other people, but I was not doing well. I was getting sick and it was terrible. Finally, a neighbor brought me a window unit and put it in the bedroom. Another thing is that when my washing machine was broken, I kept telling the guy what is was because I looked it up, and he kept saying that was not what it was. He came out four times. It was an older guy and I felt very bad, but it was what I said. Finally, they sent the supervisor out and they fixed it. Before he fixed it, I told him what it was because you can look it up on the manual.
On a different note, On Time Plumbing was very good when they came. The man that put in the hot water heater, Sam, was very attentive. He was conscientious and great. However, the pipes that he installed were leaking and he repaired it then it started leaking in another spot. He came back out and he fixed that and it has been good ever since. The only problem was we didn’t know that it was leaking and it came through the wall in my closet and I got molds. It was a whole deal, but they did take care of it. All in all, it’s people’s livelihood and it’s no reflection on American Home Shield, but this is my money and we worked hard for it.

I'm somewhat satisfied. The coverage is pretty good and the contractors do come out and fix the thing. The only thing I don't like is if something is wrong, they come out and fix the specific issue that you're having with it. But I get that. American Home Shield probably wouldn't be able to make money if I could just call and say my dryer is broken and I need them to fix it all. AMP Mechanical also did a good job. They came out for an AC issue and everything is good now. Before, the AC fan wouldn't come on but we could hear it trying to run. It was humming. The guy came in and explained what was wrong. He was absolutely friendly and professional. He had to get a part but what he needed was right in his van and he was only there for about 20 minutes total.

The air conditioning had broken completely and I called my home warranty. First, they sent someone to look at it, which cost me $75. Then the technician from True Master who Home Shield had sent said it was broken and needed to be replaced. Then, they bought a new air conditioning unit. Home Shield paid about $600 and I paid about 1,800. I was very happy with True Master. However, I’m not happy with Home Shield because I’ve been paying them almost a few cents minus $50 a month for the last 15 years and the only time I needed help, they only chipped in $600.
I felt betrayed with my policy. If something happens, they charge $75 every time. If I didn’t have Home Shield, it would’ve cost me for about somewhere between 99 to 120. I’m only saving about $30 or $40. On average, it has happened about three times last year, and two times this year, and before that, nothing for about 15 years. When I look at what I’m paying for the Home Shield and what they actually cover, everything is, “This is the exception. We won’t pay for this. We will only pay this much.” This one time that I need help with air conditioning, their excuse was that they'd only pay for a unit. The contractor had to do the connecting and wiring in the environment and they won’t cover that. I’m really disappointed. I think it’s a scam. But my home is a rental. While I was in it, I didn’t have any issues. The only part I like is that they give me peace of mind that when I call them, they send someone right away. I am very dissatisfied.

American Home Shield was referred to me by a family friend. I put my mom’s home, her appliances and stuff under the warranty, and I did it as well. They’ve been out here and so far, the contractors have been good. They serviced the washing machine, the dryer, a garage door opener, and then the biggest thing is the air conditioner. American Home Shield keeps sending people out to fix it and not giving me a new unit. Sometimes, I don’t even see what’s the use of having the warranty and I’ve been with American Home Shield for some years now.
We’ve had this leak every year now for the last five years and they’ve been coming out repetitively. It’s always a slow leak and they put some new parts on it then the next year, they come back for a slow leak again. Aren’t they supposed to fix the slow leak? They keep getting money out of me for Freon as well. Fast Response had been here for the last two years. Last year, my AC wasn’t cooling. They put new coils in and I had to pay $500 out of pocket for Freon. This time, they just came and serviced it. American Home Shield said it was $75, which they deducted out of my account.
When the guy from Fast Response was out last week, he gave me two thumbs-up. He said there was plenty of Freon and the coils looked good. He also said he just cleaned stuff off and that I would be good for the whole summer. Tomorrow, I will know if the unit is fixed because it’s going be 80 degrees here. My system will be 21 years old and American Home Shield keeps saying Freon's going to be obsolete, but they keep fixing the unit. They’re not fixing the slow leak though and that’s where I’m dissatisfied with American Home Shield because I’m still out of pocket.

We closed and moved in one month ago. The garbage disposal was fine during the inspection but when we ran it, water started leaking from the bottom. We tried to take a look into it ourselves but we saw from the research we made online that if it leaks in the reset button on the bottom, that's not good. I submitted the claim on American Home Shield's website, and it was helpful and straightforward. I didn't have any issues with it and it was efficient. It was clear, did everything we needed to and we got a response quickly. Once I submitted the service request, the guy called me to schedule the appointment and he even did it the same day. It went smoothly.
We also noticed that our toilets were running very long and I know that you could put in one claim for just a plumber to come out for all that stuff. So, we had him look at that as well. The one in the master bedroom would run, go very loud and then, it would stop. It would go every 30 minutes. So, there was something inside the tank that the plumber replaced and the same type of thing with the guest bathroom, which was a little bit flimsier to flush. He did the same thing and replaced the framework on the inside. He had the parts in his truck and the toilet no longer has any of the issues. He completely replaced the garbage disposal, so that's working perfectly fine. We're happy.
The contractor was very professional, courteous and upfront. He had the shoe slip-on, a mask and gloves because of where we're at. He was very prompt and confirmed what we had researched that the garbage disposal was not worth saving. It would be just as much to replace than to save. He ran to Home Depot, picked one up and just did it right there. So, he was quick and he was good. He was honest with us on the toilet and told us what was going on with it, why it was happening and what we could do to try to prevent it later.

American Home Shield assigned My Georgia Plumber for a claim I made and they didn't come out. I still have an open claim. The service visit was supposed to be rescheduled last week. They said they gotta cut through the ceiling and I can't move the piano alone. I told them I need to have it moved first and they said it was fine. I can't let them move it because of a warranty issue. If anything happens, then I'm not covered under my warranty anymore. That was where we left off last. They haven't contacted me to reschedule and I haven't contacted them either. I had a death in the family last week because of COVID.
I liked everything about American Home Shield originally. But I received in the mail changes to my policy. Right before last week, I reached out to Choice Warranty and one other company to get quotes. The companies were at the top with AHS. I've just not talked to any of them but I am looking for others. That's because I don't think my service with AHS is as great anymore. My premium is being raised and I'm like, "If I'm receiving less coverage but pay more, then I need to pay for all the coverage whether I have to pay more or not." I have the top policy which is the best one AHS has to offer.

Everything was fine with my recent claim with AHS. AH Appliance Repair came out. It was for my refrigerator's ice maker. The ice was not working properly and my bucket thing was broken. They had to replace that and then some other little tubing thing. Now it works fine. He was good. The main thing for me was I wanted him to make sure he had a mask and gloves ‘cause of the situation and he was fine. He came in the back door where we asked him to come in and he had his mask and gloves and the little foot coverings for his feet, very quick about it, and then he did what he had to do and he left.
The response of AHS is very good. When you call and you have an issue, it’s pretty quick. Sometimes you have to wait if you don’t have this kind of service. I like the fact that if you do have to have something replaced and they don’t have it in stock, then you can upgrade and you pay the difference. There are different options. I’ve been meaning to call American Home Shield and talk to them. Nobody seems to care. That was my second time saying something to them, but nobody seems to care about how they're treating customers. When I called American Home Shield, I called My Repairman and then the next day, I called them to schedule an appointment. I was thinking they were taking too long. And so, I called them, and they did not answer me. They did not call me back when I left a message. When the guy got here this last time, and when he was done, I asked him, “Well, what was the problem with it? Why the ice maker wasn’t dispensing ice when you just replaced the ice maker, the bucket? So, why it wasn’t dispensing?”
He said, “Oh, it was a loose wire.” So, he probably left a loose wire in there when he replaced the bucket. Then he had to come again and make me wait all that time. I was really calm with him, really nice, and I told him, “Can I ask you a question, why do they take too long? I know they’re working from home because that’s what their recording says. But it seems to me like maybe they’re not doing their job or they’re not doing what they’re supposed to be doing, which is answering the phone, and calling customers, and scheduling appointments.”
He went on the defensive right away. He said, “Well, I’m gonna just call American Home Shield and tell them do not call My Repairman.” I said, “What? Instead of saying, ‘I’m sorry,’ instead of saying, ‘I’ll talk to my boss.’” The guy was good, but he messed up because he had to have left the wire loose. I was very disappointed that American Home Shield is giving me these people. Still, I've only been unhappy with them one time. Normally, my experience has been pretty good.

I need to clean my uniform and take a shower after 16 hours shift I had when I get home. They said they would come back the next day. It took two days for them to show up.
The guy changed again a new thermostat and said it would be good in 30 minutes. He didn’t stay for 30 minutes and he left. Nothing happened. We called the company and the guy there said that the tech was calling telling us that everything was okay, but everything wasn’t, so he came over. Then we called the company back again. They said that we needed to get a whole new tank. After the five days, why the tech didn’t tell us that? Then AHS said we had to pay $730 for a new tank. The situation was unbearable. I didn’t care why we had to do it, but I paid the amount.
There was another guy from that company that came and did what he needed to do. He was professional. We got a new tank and they charged us 730. Then there was something at the bottom and he told us that we didn’t need that. We could use the same thing that we were using. He would call the company to make sure they would give us our 100 something back. However, I just found out yesterday looking at the bank statement that above the 730, the company charged me $105 more. I’m trying to call them today. They were supposed to save me that amount, not take it from me. So, there was my 835 right now. Hopefully, I'll never have this problem. I don't want to see this plumbing person. The guy that came the first two times didn't have a clue on what he was doing.
The microwave claim was a very professional company. The tech from Brooks Appliance Repair came and fix it. He was using a mask. He came to my house and was respectful. The microwave door wasn’t closing. If we'd try to close the door, we'd have to stay there holding it until whatever in the microwave was done. He did right and was really quick. American Home Shield answers our request. We request online and not even 24-hours, we have an answer and somebody’s in our house the next day. I will recommend them.

I made a claim online then called American Home Shield after I submitted it because I submitted the claim incorrectly. I corrected it over the phone. The process was definitely easier online. With the whole COVID-19 going on, I can imagine things are not as they would be. But I hope that the automated service would kinda try to get to someone to speak to. It just took a while. But I don’t know if it’s always like that.
A guy from Circa Mechanical came out and he did what he had to do. For the most part, he walked me through what the issue was. There was nothing I could really do about it or at the moment at least. I definitely needed him. We had a bunch of clogging in our main drains and he kinda cleared that up for us. He initially used a snake to do that. He used a smaller one but that didn’t work. I had tried that too. He then used his industrial version of the snake and he got it cleared out. He fixed the problem on the spot and that was all I could ask for. Everything went fine. I never thought my home warranty was important until I had to use it. You might get lucky. That’s what insurance is.

We didn't have hot water and then, it wouldn't stay on. I called American Home Shield and I was sent an appointment. I filed the claim on a Thursday and they didn’t have anybody until five days later. Once the contractor got here, they were very courteous and professional. The plumber knew exactly what the problem was and I'm like, "Wow." They didn't take them long at all to know what it was. They had to order a part for it and they got it corrected. Everything has been wonderful since then.
I’m completely satisfied with American Home Shield. They are not new to me and I've had a good experience with them. I’ve moved three times and I wouldn't choose anybody else. I may have not used them very often but if it came down to it, all it took was for the AC unit to go out and it has paid for itself. It's $600 plus change a year but it's worth every penny. I’ve recommended it to some friends but they said they were good. They're gonna have to learn the hard way when all of a sudden something goes out.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield has been easy. I submitted one for my microwave and got a call that same day. Their contractor called ABM Appliances came out the Monday after the Friday that I called. The tech said it would be a week 'til the part that was needed would come in. He called me when it did and scheduled himself for an appointment back. I wouldn't use any other home warranty company. AHS has fared the best for me and I'm 100% satisfied with it.

The microwave has been giving me a lot of headaches, and John came in and assessed it immediately. He came back soon after with the correct part. He removed the microwave, which weighs a ton, and he took it down by himself and worked on it. Shortly after, it worked. I was thankful because I use the microwave every day for easy little items to speed things up. He also noticed that the gasket in the refrigerator was sticking, pulling and hard to open every time you opened the door. He took care of getting that as well as a little shelf that fell off on the door. He ordered that for me. I had tried other companies and one company told me they couldn't do it. So, I was so happy that I decided on American Home Shield. I wasn’t aggravated with the process in submitting a claim. In other companies, you have to wait on hold but AHS got right to the process with my name. They were very organized.
When I got AHS, I didn’t go to other people. I had to try something here in Miami and that didn't work out at all. I was very reluctant but every time I called AHS, there were excellent responses on the phone. People knew what they were doing. Something about their phone service led me feeling good about it. They didn't take me around a lot of questions and unnecessary stuff. So, they're very professional. The people down here in Homestead, which is part of Miami, were very good also. One time, I had a need to call in. I wanted the same man to come back and they told me that he would be coming.

Since they don't take after-hour calls and they don't follow up first thing in the morning if claims are filed at night, the online form that they have people fill out should have an urgent box in case it's an emergency. In this way, they know and the contractor can be dispatched out quicker instead of just a normal ticket. When we went to flush our toilets, the water came up instead of going down. So, we submitted a ticket online with American Home Shield and the next morning, the plumbing company called us. They were not able to get to us for 48 hours, so I called back to American Home Shield and said that it was not going work. We needed it done that day because our pipes were backing up. They dispatched out another company, and they were fantastic. They were here within a couple of hours and had it fixed. We had an issue with the microwave as well and the people were good too.

Our garbage disposal wasn’t working so AHS sent someone from B B Lewis Plumbing who tried to fix it but he had to replace it. And we had a leak on our guest bathroom, under the sink. The only issue I had was that they asked for detail on what we thought was happening. But when the tech came out, he didn’t bring a part with him. The work was delayed for five days until he could get the part. These guys should carry some parts. We told AHS what kind of a dryer it was, but it didn't matter. Overall, we’re very satisfied. I have my washer for a while now. I could smell burnt rubber when the washer was on the final spin cycle. That scared me because I had never smelled that before. So, when I called Home Shield, they said that they would have someone. And then, they left the number for the company that would be able to come out. When I called the company to see when they would be able to come out, the guy picked up on the first or second ring. It was the weekend so when I called, the guy said that he would come out the next day, which was a Monday.
The guy was really nice. When he came out, he had his mask on so it was great with this whole COVID thing. He took the proper precautions and all of that. And then, he told me exactly what he needed to do, that he needed to order a part, and that it would probably take a week. I said it wasn't a problem. And at that point, with my company, I was able to work from home. It worked out for me. It was a great experience.
I’ve been a customer with Home Shield for going on 19 years and every experience that I’ve had with their service technicians has always been great. Home Shield has always sent great, quality technicians. Whenever something goes wrong in the house, I never have to worry because I know I have Home Shield to back me up. The contractors were professional, nice and super timely. They were out the next day early in the morning. The contractor that went out reset it and it went great. There’s a reset button. I thought I had reset it but it didn’t reset. Then he said he’s done this for 15 years so he knows how to do it pretty well. They were polite and were in and out of here in less than 10 minutes. So far, my experience with AHS has been amazing. It’s been quick, easy and super-efficient. Even in these times, I haven’t had any issues. Crystal Air was great. They came and identified that Violin Heating & Air, the people that American Home Shield sent out prior, didn’t know what they were doing, put in non-compatible equipment as well as installed it wrong. So, I paid them almost $3,000 for work that did not work. So, when Crystal Air came out and told me the problem, they said they don’t work on specialized zoning like what I would need, but they do know what the problem is. I went ahead and called a company out of the paper and I found somebody who came out and verified exactly what Crystal Air said. The guy gave me an affidavit in writing, and I went and stopped payment on my credit cards to Violin after calling them a dozen times, leaving messages, texting them, requesting them to come out and fix the problem that they started.
I was texting their service tech at one point, and I said, “Look, if you’re not gonna come out and fix it, then I’ll charge it back, and I’ll give the file to my attorney.” He replied, “Don’t threaten me.” I said, “I’m not threatening you. I’m telling you that I paid for a service that doesn’t work, and if you’re not gonna fix it, then I will dispute it, and we’ll deal with it that way. That’s not a threat. That’s a promise.” So, bottom line, I went ahead and did that with my credit card company last week on both accounts. I would highly put Violin on suspect and recommend that American Home Shield remove them as a vendor because they’re awful. I called their office, I left messages on the manager’s phone and the rep's phone. The rep responded. The manager never got back to me, never called me, and never replied.
I’m overall happy with American Home Shield. My issue is I paid them three times to have Violin come back to fix the problem that they never fixed right in the first place, and that doesn’t seem fair because I’m paying $75, $75, $75 for nothing. But other than that, for the most part, I find American Home Shield does what they’re supposed to do. I just think they really need to work on the vendors because the vendors are taking advantage of people, and not many people have the resources I do to say, “Okay, you wanna play that way? We could deal with it.”

It was about two weeks since I called Home Shield. The AC wasn't working, the contractor came, checked the unit, and said that the pump for the fan wasn't working. So, they came and they changed that. But then four hours after the guy left, the AC went off again. I called them the next day, they came the following day and the guy checked it and said the compressor wasn't working. So now, we have to get a compressor. The guy came today, changed the compressor, and he said the fan isn't working. So, the motor for the fan that supposedly the guy changed the first time isn't working.
The tech was very professional. He called me, showed me what he was doing and what he had to change, and even the wiring system and when he attached the compressor. He said, "Look at these wires. They're old." He changed all the wiring, everything that needed to be changed. Unfortunately, he has to tell his company now that they have to get another motor for the fan out to the house.
The guy came today, put on the compressor and the refrigerant, and he said it's still not working. The motor for the fan isn't working. He said even when the guy changed that part, which I thought he did, it's not working. Home Shield had to know by now. The guys may put on this motor now, tomorrow, whenever they come, and it may go bad again. It's an old system. The parts that the old system used is an R22 and they're not making those parts again. And the thing is they're not making this system again. So why go through this? Come here, fix one part, then next, they come back, it's not working. This is the third time that they came to change something on the AC.
The guy said, if it's a motor that the guy changed the first time, he said it looked as if it could be a new thing, but it was not working. So he had to put in a part. He said sometimes he takes them out of a new box and he put it on, and the same thing, it's not working. The first time when the guy came, he went in, looked at the system and then he went upstairs and said, "The fan isn't working." So, he had to go change that, then he would see if the other part is running as it was supposed to run.
Home Shield should have gone through and just changed the whole system. Now, I have to pay $755 out of pocket, not for the compressor, but for refrigerant locking caps and custom modification, which they said was in my contract. Nobody told me about this out of pocket when I signed the contract. I paid $755 plus the service, so that's worth $1,000. But we could do an upgrade with Home Shield and get a new system for half the price. I pay them to fix or repair. So them coming out to tell me, "Upgrade with American Home Shield" and pay close to $4,000 out of pocket for a new system is not what they advertised.

The claims submission process was very simple. I went to American Home Shield and submitted the claim. Within a day or so, I got a call that they will be sending someone and he showed up within two days. The only thing is that the job actually took two weeks because they had to order the special part. But as soon as they got it, they called me up and they were there within 24 hours. These guys at American Home Shield are professional. They take the job seriously and they got the job done. Aside from the phone call I was getting for confirmation from the American Home Shield, I was also getting the text message and the email. So in case I missed the call, I have other options to follow through, which was really good.
ASAP Plumbing Service was very good as well. My sink faucet was a pull-down one and the hose was leaking when I would turn it on so it needed a new hose. Also, the lever to my bathroom flush tank was cracked so the water was leaking from there too. Thank God that we were not using the bathroom. We had two so we stopped using it. The plumber was very professional and he made sure he cleaned up. He got the job done fast enough plus he cleaned up after himself. One thing my wife wants though is if the plumbers have one of those booties they can put on on their shoes. This plumber has to go to different homes and my wife is a clean-freak. Since we didn’t have any booties, we had to clean the whole house because they had to go to the bathroom and then kitchen. Otherwise, things have been good since the repair.

I've used American Home Shield a few times and every situation is different. Sometimes, it goes smoothly, and sometimes, it takes a while. Right now, I have a claim in for a ceiling fan, and it's been almost two months and it's still not fixed. Also, the refrigerator was not cooling all the way. It wouldn’t go below 55 degrees and I had it set at 33. The technician from Carlos Kata Appliance Repair came out and said that the fan wasn’t working. One of the little strips on the door was broken so he fixed that. After he left, it still didn’t cool down so I called him and he looked at it. He was not sure what it was. He had his thermometer in there and it wasn’t cooling the same, past the 55 or so.
He said he was gonna have to call American Home Shield to get the permission to take the fridge to his shop. I told him that I've read that sometimes unplugging the refrigerator for 24 hours and then plugging it back in works. He told me that I could try that and let him know. I did that and it didn’t make any difference. I called him to let him know and he said that he would get ahold of American Home Shield and find out what to do next, and I haven’t heard back yet. I talked to him on Friday, and he said that he had emailed American Home Shield, and he was gonna contact me when he heard back from the company. American Home Shield should get better contractors. The vendors that they use are not very good.

I used to have another home warranty and they were absolutely fabulous. Then I got American Home Shield and they don't understand that they're outsourcing their customer service overseas, and it is absolutely horrific. You can't even get anything done. My oven has been broken since December 11th and ABC Appliance came out five times in three months but they were not able to repair it. The tech said American Home Shield needed to assign somebody else to replace it and he left. I explained to American Home Shield that the previous year we had replaced all the computer parts and even this gentleman said, "I have no idea. I'm just replacing parts. 'Cause this whole entire oven looks brand-new." So they said they were gonna send another guy out. I told them it was fine.
Accord Appliance sent me a text that they would like to schedule but for some reason, they got it confused with this agency was supposed to be fixing my refrigerator. So they never came out for the oven. I called American Home Shield to tell them that it has been six to eight weeks and nobody was coming out. But they told me that they closed the claim. I asked them why did they close it? They never sent anybody out and they've never fixed it. Then the guy said he would reopen it and send Accord back out. I told him okay and then I get charged another $100 for the deductible when the first person never repaired it. So I was pissed because I got charged.
The gentleman came out and he said he could turn it on and get it to go hot. I told him that if he opened up the cabinet and looked at all the screws that the previous mechanic left, he never even put this oven back in. It was just pushed in. Then he said it was getting hot and he told me that he was gonna tell American Home Shield that he could see it was getting hot, but it was intermittent and he needed to find out what it doesn't do. He told me to take a video of it.
I turned the oven on and waited for it to pre-heat. It took so long to pre-heat that I've made my entire banana nut bread and it was still not hot. So I pre-heat it, put all the banana nut bread in, and then I turned the video on and the dash display showed that it has been on for an hour. Then I turned it off and I went to reset it. It stated that it was not at 425, but it was at 285. So everything was raw. I baked a lasagna for two hours and I stuck my finger in it because it never got hot.
I called back American Home Shield five times, but it seemed like they always answered after 22 to 45 minutes. I argued with the lady that she would charge me $100, but she was just submitting it. I called back again and this lady named Katie appeared to be in the Philippines and she was a sweetheart. She reversed the $100 and then said she would reach out to the appliance people. But the appliance man said, "You know, I'm sitting here looking at videos. I can see that a video that this oven has been going for an hour and a half and you pull a cake out and it's liquid inside." I told him that I was showing him five videos of evidence that after a long time, it did not sustain heat. He said that I have to call KitchenAid or replace it. It was almost gonna be six months and I still do not have a working oven.
I reached out to American Home Shield and I've sent them things. There's nothing on their website that allows you to send an email to them. You either have to call and wait on hold, which sends you overseas. There's no way that you can get an American-based customer service person that can make decisions. It's ridiculous. Also, they won't transfer you to a manager. I had to walk them through because they made me crazy. But at least Katie was good. Some of their employees are good. But it's not logical after you've had seven service calls that if they can't fix it, why aren't they replacing it?

The tech from Heros Plumbing Service worked on our refrigerator and the microwave. He came out immediately after I submitted the claim. He was very good and I am very happy that I have American Home Shield.

When our air conditioner wasn't cooling, I went on the AHS website and put in a service request order. The website was easy to use and very simple to follow. After I finished the request, I got an email saying I will be contacted the next following business day to set up an appointment. Air Design AC & Heating was the contractor and they contacted me the next morning. They came out the same day too. This happened last week. The contractor was great and professional. They did what they had to do and were in and out. It's been a great experience and I'd use American Home Shield again.
Billie,

Quality Appliance came to repair my washer and dryer. The sensor wasn’t working on one and the other one wasn’t getting hot. The tech was friendly and quick. He did what he needed to do. I like that with AHS I don’t have to go anywhere. Their contractors come here. I've had them for the last 2 or 3 years and I've also had them prior to moving here.
I am happy to hear that we were able to resolve your claim. Thanks for sharing your AHS experience. Please let us know if you need assistance in regards to your warranty.

The guy from GE Appliances who came out for the final time troubleshot the microwave, went out to his truck, got a new part, stuck it in there, tested it out, and it worked perfectly. We haven't had any trouble since then. He spent around 45 minutes here. He was very professional and did an excellent job. Other contractors may know how to work on a GE in a manner. But, this guy works for GE. He came out here and bada bing bada boom, he got it done. I don't know what the other guys missed that he saw. The repair didn't seem like it was that difficult to me because the tech just replaced the part behind where you punch the keypads on a microwave. It was all burnt out. I liked the amount of items AHS covers and their response time back. It all depends on what's going on in the area, but for the most part, they've been pretty good about getting to the house within a 24-hour time frame.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

We looked at different companies. We decided to go with American Home Shield because they seemed a little bit more reasonable, and we've been right. They've accommodated us at every turn. I submit claims over the phone and I'm notified by an email. The tech from James Birmingham Appliance Repair did a thorough job. We had a situation where the contractors wouldn't be able to come out 'till the 20th. My husband called AHS back because we have an autistic granddaughter that lives with us. There was just no way. They got right on it and contractors were there that afternoon.

My toilet wasn't flushing much. The process of submitting a claim was easy. I usually do it online. Bryant’s Plumbing had to replace something in the toilet that made it flush right. Then I had a problem with my shower faucet. I could hardly pull the faucet out and they fixed that, too. The guy was great. Everything is fine and working much better now.

My freezer had a GFI outlet on it, and every time the compressor went off, it tripped and it made the freezer go off. I submitted a claim with Home Shield online and it was good. McGee Services came out and it took them about 10 to 15 minutes to resolve the issue.

Everything went well with my last AHS claim. I called it in and the process was very smooth. Talking to the rep went thoroughly and there was a quick turnaround. The tech wore gloves and a mask. He seemed to be knowledgeable and was pretty quick. They had to replace a heating element in the microwave and it's been going well since the repair.
