Some of my claims with American Home Shield have been good and others have been bad. With my dishwasher claim, it took me forever to get it fixed 'cause parts had to be ordered. The techs who were sent were good but they were constantly telling me that Home Shield doesn't cover this and that Home Shield covered that. Plus, I didn't know what took so long for the part to come in. I didn't know if they ordered the part or the delay was with the product coming in. I would have never repaired this dishwasher. I would have replaced it if I was Home Shield.
When my garage door broke, Home Shield covered the broken spring but it would not cover replacing the other spring because it was operational. Even so, everyone knows that if one spring is replaced, the other would break next. That would cost me just as much as repairing or replacing the broken spring again. Little things like this should be covered under their warranty. I've had American Home Shield billions of times. I've had nine houses and I've had them on all but one. I never had this kind of problem before with them. They usually cover things they know would be damaged again. The garage door claim cost me the same amount of money with or without American Home Shield's warranty.
Most recently, my AC unit quit working and I went online to request service from American Home Shield. Their site was good and I was told that their contractor ACE Heating & Cooling would be contacting me. They provided professional service and since they came, everything has been working great. I saved money with this claim.

After I submitted our AC claim, I heard from the contractor within two hours and they scheduled the service for the next morning. It was very quick. 1st Goal came out about a week and a half ago because we were having an issue with our refrigerant line freezing for our central air conditioning. They were just here again yesterday. They had given us some refrigerant the first time they were here and it didn't take quite enough so they gave us a little bit more yesterday and checked to make sure there were no leaks, and now it seems to be working okay. We also had a plumbing claim for plumbing and everybody's been great. We get a response incredibly quickly. Everything's been great so far. We've been very happy.

We’ve had coverage with American Home Shield for many years and I often wonder if it pays off, but so far, we have kept it. When Sears came out to fix our fridge, everything went fine. The technician was fantastic. He had to order parts and come back once the parts arrived. It took a week or so.

I prefer to calling my claims in and speaking to a live operator. I’m just old-school that way. I get someone on the line pretty quickly. With COVID-19, it has been a little longer than usual, but overall, it goes smoothly. There was a leak on top of the AC unit. The contractor came out, assessed it, and took care of it.

I had some problems with my refrigerator and it took seven months for AHS to replace it. I could never speak to a manager. People said that they were going to call me back but they never did. The contractor said the door was damaged. He said he told AHS but they claimed they didn't have a record of it. They should improve their customer service and helping people when they need help. But other than that, I haven't had a problem with them. Recently, the condo association had somebody come out that was doing air conditioning checks for $50. I had mine checked and they told me that I had a leak and it needed to be replaced because of the Freon. ATR General Services came and they said it was fine. It's running good now.
Alice,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I hated to hear you were not totally satisfied with your overall experience with us. Thanks for speaking with me to confirm there are no current issues. Take Care.

I had two claims with AHS - plumbing problems, which were resolved, and the AC problem. The air conditioner wasn’t cooling down. If I set it on 72, it’s coming down to it, but it's still warm inside. The first time they sent somebody out there, the guy didn't know what he was really doing or what he was talking about. He said something by the furnace was leaking and he was supposed to repair that leak. They told me I would have to pay additional $150 out of pocket for 2 pounds of Freon. He put the Freon in supposedly, and I was still having the same problem.
I called them back and asked them to send someone else out there and they did. This guy was saying that the AC coil behind the furnace needs to be replaced and a bunch of more other work needs to be done, which I don’t know other work need to be done because the air conditioner is fine. It's costing me $1,400 out of pocket to do it. I told them that I didn’t have the $1,400 to pay out of pocket. I told them if I could just have some time to try to come up with what I need to come up with. They said they'd give me 30 days.
I called back about the $150 I had spent out of pocket. I asked them was that gonna be applied to that or will they gonna refund me that since the refrigerant he put in there leaked out. He said he fixed the leak and he did not. She went and talked to the manager, and she finally said they'll credit me that, but the total price still did not come down. I called back and asked them if I had to call American Shield back and ask them if I had to go back with this company because I was trying to find somebody that’s kinda less expensive on my own. They said I had to do that because that’s the company that AHS deals with. They said I could find someone on my own as long it’s a licensed-certified air condition person.
This AC company was a little bit rude and I got upset about it. They were also telling me something about a buyout or pay back. I didn’t know that that even exist. The guy explained to me what it was. I started looking, trying to find somebody certified but I haven’t found anybody as of right now because I don’t have a lot of time to be looking for that. I'm kinda dealing with the situation right now like it is.

I put in a claim online for the air conditioner unit and then they called and submitted the order. The website was very user-friendly. I submitted the claim on the weekend so I had to wait the whole weekend for it to come through. It took three days for the contractor to come out and they were wonderful. We got a new air conditioner and then it broke again and we got a new one.
American Home Shield is a typical warranty company. You really have to fight tooth and nail to get what you want but they kinda do the trick. I've heard that there are better warranty companies out there but every time I call American Home Shield, they usually send someone out right away. So I can't really complain about them. I would recommend them.

My air conditioning stopped working and I contacted American Home Shield. The next day, I called the contractors and they gave me an appointment for the following day. They came out ahead of the scheduled appointment and got it running and cooling quickly. So, everything went pretty well. I liked how quickly AHS was able to get me in contact with the company to come out here.

AHS had my refrigerator fixed and they did great work on that. I also called in an order for my furnace. Recently Rubber Duck Plumbing tech said something was possibly clogged in the toilet. The problem was not fixed so the second time he came out, he said something might be stuck like a pen and AHS won't cover that. I called the third time and they said I would have to pay for a second service. They said the only way I won’t be charged for a second time to come out is if they refer me to another plumber for a second opinion. I put everything under insurance for a reason and they were asking me to pay another $106 to come out when it only costs $99 for a brand-new toilet. I might as well just get a brand-new toilet and just put it in here. I’m definitely trying to see if I can find something else that will cover my appliances in the home.

AHS's claims process has been pretty easy and quick. We usually submit claims online and one day or two days later, someone calls or emails us. The contractor usually comes here in one or two days, which is usually one day after they call. The payment options could be better. When you do a payment through the phone, doing the one payment, you have to wait a day after. You could do a regular monthly payment. If not, you have to talk to someone else. AHS came for our AC once and when the washing machine was leaking somewhat, the contractor fixed it perfectly.

We’ve had two service calls with AHS and they’ve both been exceptional. The most recent call with Wright, although it was exceptional, the service technician didn't wear a face mask. We would've been more comfortable had he done that. There are good contractors and then there are ones, which, when they’ve been reassigned on subsequent calls, we’d have to call back and say we don’t want that contractor. Also, there always seems to be a lag time when the contractor makes the initial contact. If you make the call or you go online, and they say, “American Home Shield sent the contractor. We’ll contact you within 24 hours,” it’s pretty much all the way 24 hours or more. So, I find often that I call the contractor.

The contractor who came out was here for about 30 minutes to an hour. But the only thing he fixed was the garbage disposal. He didn't fix the toilet since it was pretty much still working. I just gotta deal with the loud noise that it’s making. He also said that AHS doesn't cover the p-trap, so he didn't do anything with the sink. If everything was able to be fixed, it would be better. Other than that, I’m satisfied with my AHS experience.

I called Home Shield to submit an AC claim because I wanted to ask a question. But the wait time was something that was too complicated. At the same time, I was trying to log on to the site. I logged on and filed a claim online. Two or three days after, Koning Mechanical Services called and the guy said he had been trying to call me. If he did, he only called once and didn’t leave a message. But he seemed like a nice person. He was professional and helpful. He walked me through everything. The only issue I had is he had taken the cover off for the AC unit and he didn’t put it back on the right way.
The AC is still the same way and I can't do anything because I need a new unit. The contractor said they will write up everything and send it to American Home Shield. I thought American Home Shield would contact me, but I haven’t heard anything from them. I want to call them if they would cover me getting an upgrade but I thought it's their responsibility to contact me, whether it be a phone call or email. Also, I didn’t like the fact that before a person has scheduled a service with me, they had already taken their $75 fee. I got an email saying that my payment was being processed the same day that I submitted the claim but I didn’t get anybody out there for two or three days. I didn’t think that was right.
The experience with AHS is normally pretty good. The only time I’ve had a problem is when a plumber came out. They could only do up to a certain amount of work, which I did not know. If my faucet is not working or if it’s dripping, I figured they would replace everything but they could only replace up to a certain thing. Then, I was advised by somebody who’s a non-contractor with them but who does work that they only can do a certain dollar amount of work. And if it goes over that, they won’t do it. That kinda turned my stomach a little bit.

Last year, when I put in the claim for our air conditioner, the company that came was very good at communicating a lot. This time, the air conditioner wasn't blowing cold air and the AHS website responded in the same way. It immediately said that somebody would get in touch with me and the contractor did. Every time I've filed a claim with AHS, I've gotten a prompt response. The local company last year had a little bit better system than the one this year. The local company this year didn't communicate as much. But both experiences were good and they were both professional.

To file a claim, I had to log in on the AHS website. It was super easy and took less than five minutes. I was told to expect the contractor the next day. When the contractor was on the way, they sent me a text. My AC unit wasn’t cooling and the contractor fixed the capacitor. And then he told me he changed the air filter, but last night, my boyfriend said that the guy took the air filter out but didn’t put a new one in. I don’t know if I misunderstood the guy, but I thought he said he gave me a new one. All in all, I would recommend AHS.

I just got with American Home Shield so it was my first time to submit a claim, I was learning how to do it but I figured it out. Now that I see how it works, it should be easy. I did it online and then I was gonna select rekeying and plumbing. Then I couldn't select the second option because I found out that it hadn't transferred into my name yet from the previous homeowner, so I had to call. The scheduling was a little weird. I got a text saying, “We’ll be there tomorrow between x time and x time.” But I had a phone call and I wasn’t available, so I had to cancel. Then, it was all done via text as opposed to someone picking the phone up and making an appointment. Home Choice Services came the next day to fix the plumbing leak in the laundry room and the guy was great and di a good job. Since the repairs, things have been perfect.

Our refrigerator was leaking water all over the kitchen and we had to turn off the water to the fridge. I called Home Shield's 800 number and I heard back in like a day or so. Dave's & Sons came out and checked it out. They ordered everything they were supposed to and fixed it. They did a great job and they cleaned up after themselves. They replaced the icemaker and everything was good as new. I've been real happy with Home Shield. Even the vendors said that a lot of the other places aren't as decent as them. Most of the companies try to get out of it, but Home Shield takes care of it so vendors like working with them so much better. I'll just keep renewing with them.

I had the refrigerator's dial all the way up. It kept getting warmer and warmer. It just was slowly dying and the icemaker wasn’t working. The icemaker wasn’t working maybe because it wasn’t cold enough. The tech said the refrigerator is 19 years old. We've only lived in this home for two years. We replaced the fridge. We got a newer one. The whole GE experience, even the delivery man, was really great. I'm on a fixed income and if I ever had a major issue, like our central air conditioner, I would have to charge that and pay for it over the years. With having the warranty program, it takes a lot of stress off not worrying about a major expense.

I filed it online on American Shield website, the contractor called the same night and they were out there the next day around 2:00 or 3:00. The AC had frozen up the draining pipes, and it wasn’t cooling anymore. The air was blowing hot. I just turned it off. I didn't wanna overwork it. It was simple submitting a claim to American Home Shield. I just called and spoke to a very professional and kind rep. I called Royal Flush and the man got here on time. He arrived at the earliest point of the timeframe. He didn't arrive in the later part of the window. He was very professional. He went straight at it. I was in a bad mood that day. I’m disabled, so I was in my room. My back was hurting, and I asked him if he could ask my son for any questions, and he took care of it. Between him and my son, he was sweet. He was a cool guy. This is my first eligible month with AHS. I really thought I was gonna get a runaround. I didn't expect them to be so quick to help me. I understand I’m paying a deductible, but they were very professional from making the claim all the way to them coming out and fixing the AC.

Initially, there was a slow drain going on in my guest bathroom. Then, there was a leak in the pipe underneath the sink. I needed to call someone professionally and when I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I didn’t have any difficulties at all. The contractor came by and looked. They attempted to snake it out and they were saying that they couldn’t get past the P-section. They went down the basement and they said that an area needed to be removed, which was what they did. I’ve had AHS since July of last year and I'm very satisfied. You never know when something bad is gonna happen. When I talked to the plumbers, I asked how much it would cost on the outside and they said around $7,000. So, I got my money’s worth. I would recommend it and use it.

My washing machine was making some funny sounds and the drum was shaking around a lot inside the tub. My husband set up the appointment. AHS called and said that this guy was gonna come out. The guy was really knowledgeable and very safe with the whole COVID stuff going on. It ended up being just one silly thing in the middle of the tub. He just popped off this cap, tightened the screw down, and that was all it was. However, the cost was $135 for that. With that amount to have someone come out is a little pricey. People should think twice before having anyone out. But some friends of ours also have AHS and they pay about what we do. AHS actually has a lower payment for when people come out.
We called AHS to do an AC tune-up. They said that they're not doing them right now because of the whole COVID thing. That's kind of disheartening 'cause down here in Texas you leave your AC on almost all year round. That's the only issue we've had and we've called them for that. Overall, the services themselves are always good.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

We've had three claims with AHS. We had our hot water heater, then the next week, my air conditioning upstairs went out and my refrigerator stopped working. Chi-Tex Plumbing came out for our hot water heater that didn't have hot water. It took me a while to get to talk to a real person, but it was fine. Chi-Tex was really good. When we had the last two claims, I could not understand the guy at all no matter how many times I asked him to please repeat. I asked him, "Quite honestly, are you telling me I have an option between Big Country or GE?" He would just go around and around. Finally, I said whoever could come out here was fine. He picked Big Country then Big Country gave me a runaround. They said they were coming and cancelled twice. I called back and got somebody different. She also was a foreigner, which is hard to understand, but she did get me a GE representative to come out here, which was fine.
Big Country came out 7 years ago to help me with my washer. It took me over a month to get my washer operational because he kept coming back, going, coming back. By the time he finished, my washer's brand-new. He replaced everything in it. I made a note to myself to try not to get them again because I want something operational pretty quick and that was not fun.
Most of my experiences with AHS are fine. However, I had to ask several times and it takes a long time to get to talk to a real person, which aggravates me. I had to wait on hold for like 20 minutes till I got somebody. I understand that that they're busy but as we pay our monthly dues to have this service, we're entitled to something that comes out a little bit faster than when I get something. When I got to the right person like for my air conditioner, those people let me have a number that I could personally call the business, which I did. I called them personally and they said, "Okay. We'll be out there Monday." And they were.
But when I called Big Country, they said they'd be here Monday. I called about noon on Monday and asked if I had a time when somebody was gonna be here. The girl said, "I don't have you on the schedule." I told her I talked to a gentleman on Friday. Finally, she found it. It was shoved underneath something. She said, "He'll be out here about 4:00, 5:00 if he's running late." By 4:30, I got a call. "I'm sorry, we can't make it. We can come back on Thursday." This was on a Tuesday. It would be more professional to say, "Mrs. **, I'm sorry. He cannot come today because we really didn't have you scheduled. We can see you tomorrow.'" Why put me off to Thursday? It wasn't my fault. They call us kinda out in the country, but we're really not in Mont Belvieu. We're in the Houston district, so it takes a little bit more to get to us out here. But it's like because we're out farther, it's not convenient to put us in with somebody quickly.
It was last year we called because our air conditioner stopped working and it was hot in our house. The company that AHS routed me to said they'd be here in 2 weeks and this was June. They said that was all they got. Why couldn't they get a different person to come out here? What we did was we called the people that do our annual maintenance. We had to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. If I'm gonna have a provision of a home warranty system, I should have more of an easier access to a real person. Don't put me off for 2 weeks. That was ridiculous. We've been kind of looking to get something different other than American Home Shield for that reason alone. I don't think they picked the most high quality people. They're not very selective.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

American Home Shield's service has always been good. We just renewed with them because there are some things that I don’t wanna fix. They merged with HSA and we’ve had HSA for about 10 years since I owned my house in South Carolina. With that house, we surely got our money’s worth. For my most recent claim, everything was good. It was a simple fix. I was an idiot and should’ve checked the safety valve. The water condensation drain line was clogged. When the water backed up, it turned off the safety valve. I paid $75 to have a guy come out and push some compressed air that I could’ve just blown with my mouth. But he did good. He was in and out in about 15 minutes. He went out, checked the voltage and refrigerant level and said everything looked good.
When you do the online claim and choose HVAC, it has options that are listed there. One of them is other but it doesn’t give you an opportunity to type in what's wrong. AHS could make that addition to the app so the customer can type in exactly what's wrong so the contractor has an idea before AHS calls them. It might be a little cost-effective ‘cause it’ll save the contractor a little time.

I am a customer that purchased a home warranty for my condo. I have filed a claim on my refrigerator and had good customer service with no flaws. While filing that claim I had called to ask to see if a company was on the approved list and was told no, so I went with the company they provided. They made if clear that they weren't able to give me a list, but were able to let me know if a company was approved or not and did so. However, when I called back a few months later to ask for an approved company I got the rudest agent on the phone. She was sarcastic, kept repeating that she could not give that information and wouldn't let me talk. Then when I asked to speak to a supervisor to report her, she would not transfer the call or give me her name.
Needless to say, she got me very upset with how rude I was treated on a call on 5.25.20 between 11:48 - 12:41. I have gone online to see how I can get this resolved and can not find any type of customer service number and is why I am writing this negative review. I paid good money for this warranty and do not deserve such horrible customer service. Dana

The issue ended up being an electrical problem so the technicians came back and it was a different problem than what they had fixed. They got the electric fixed and everything's resolved.
Otherwise, I've been with American Home Shield for about 10 years. One of their vendors replaced my air conditioning unit, which was great. But they put in a 2.5-amp of a 3-amp. I was just concerned that that may cause problems upon selling my house. I'm gonna stay with them so that if there is a problem, I can call them back and make them fix it.

I go online, write my claim up and then Home Shield sets it up. It's an excellent process and it's very quick. It's very easy if you have a computer. Home Shield replaced my microwave, and fixed my dishwasher and dryer. They also sent a contractor and fixed my air conditioning and heater at different times. I called the pool people twice about my pool and they discovered what was wrong with it. I just had to add some chemicals to the pool to make it work. It was resolved. Knock Out Pools & Spas was very courteous and polite.

CNJ Services came out for a disposal replacement. Because I've been sick, the kitchen was an absolute disaster and I wasn't gonna be home. My wife was home and she had to deal with it. The gentleman was going to have trouble accessing the sink, even though the advice was, "Make sure it's available." He was beyond accommodating and professional when my wife explained how embarrassed she was that the house was a disaster and the sink. He was so kind as well. It was like he was a family member. What really made the difference was how wonderful he was given our situation. And of course, the repairs were absolutely unbelievable and perfect.

The AHS claim process was easy. We thought that there was an electrical problem with our smoke detectors because of how they were going off. When the contractor came, he said that he replaced all the batteries. We couldn’t pinpoint to him which smoke detector was really a problem and he said that without having a specific one, he couldn’t do anything. He really wanted to make sure that he fixed what he could and spent time asking me a lot of questions. He didn’t want to leave. He said that pattern I explained to him on what was going on with our smoke detectors was concerning. I know we have a 60-day and if something were to happen, we could always call.
Our smoke detectors were original from when the house was built in 2002. He said that from their perspective as an electric company, they recommend we replace every 15 years. Then he gave me a recommendation on what kind of smoke detectors they use as a company, which was helpful. We were able to find that particular kind and it was a lot cheaper than we had originally thought that it was gonna cost. We're very happy with AHS. You always get a warranty when you first buy the house, but I think everybody lets those slide. We recommend AHS to people that we know that have houses they bought several years ago but don’t have a home warranty anymore.

I called in and spoke to a rep at AHS when the AC unit on my rental property was not cooling at all. I didn't meet the technician, but I did speak with him via telephone. He was very friendly and very informative. He met the window I was given of when to expect him. The tenant was very satisfied. I had work done by another contractor dealing with the furnace on another claim. American Home Shield paid some, and I had to meet a payment of $1,300. That contractor did not fulfill all of what needed to be done correctly in the repair. That was the only thing I was upset about and disgusted with. But eventually, everything was resolved so I am happy.

With AHS, I like that I can call somebody up and they can come and fix it. It's more of a convenience and not extraordinarily costly to pay out-of-pocket right then to have things fixed or replaced. I had an issue with my water heater and they ended up replacing that because it got bad. We also had a claim for an older refrigerator. The technician has come out a few times and he has been awesome. The first time they did it, they thought it was a thermocouple that didn’t work. But it was the thermometer. The heater was working, but for whatever reason, it wasn’t registering that it should be defrosting. The top part wasn’t getting defrosted. Therefore, it's frozen up all the coils and not letting the airflow to cool it down. In the end, the claim went well.

I submitted the claim online and then I got text messages with updates. American Home Shield communicated very well and was very helpful. They were gonna send the same people that they sent a year ago but we had something tricky on our roof that they knew about. They didn't have the right staff for it because of COVID, so they had to figure out a different contractor to send and they were very quick about it. They did a good job of covering themselves. Complete Comfort came out promptly and fixed it very well. I was very happy with their service. So, now I’ve seen their two different AC contractors. They both did a fine job.

When I bought my house, the previous homeowner had purchased Home Shield for me. So far, my experience with them has been good. They call and email me and keep me up-to-date on things. Their website is user-friendly, too. When my furnace didn't work, I went online and submitted a claim. The techs came faster and way better than I expected and they replaced my furnace. It's summer now. But it was cold in the house and I needed a new furnace. Having AHS is definitely worth it. I'd tell my neighbors they should pay for it and at least get a year's worth.

I had a water leak and Home Shield sent Patriot out. The guy came, diagnosed the problem, and it took them about four weeks to get back to the guy. In the meantime, my water was running and by the time they came to their conclusion, my water bill had gone up so high. And they weren’t gonna fix it because it wasn't on the inside of the house. The insurance that I have didn’t take care of that. That was all they had to say from the very beginning instead of letting me wait for four weeks. I hired somebody to fix it and I had to pay a lot of money. It was horrifying and stressful.
But with the dryer claim, I never had problems. The dryer wasn’t heating up so I called Home Shield and I talked to someone. They scheduled me and the guy from Tommy D got back in touch with me saying he was gonna be here. Before he got here, he gave me a phone call. He did his job and told me what the problem was. I asked him some question and he answered them and then he left.

Our faucets in the house were leaking. I submitted a claim to AHS and they sent us Midtown Plumbing. The tech had to order parts and we had to wait for those to come in. The tech was very friendly and he did the work. He could have charged us for the parts but he wanted to call first. As a result, I paid $27 for the parts as they were still under warranty. He got our faucets to stop leaking. Plus, Midtown had to cut a hole in our ceiling because we thought we had a leak. It was found that we didn't have a leak per se. Instead, the problem was something in our bathroom and water was overflowing in an area. The tech fixed that issue for me and said that if we had any additional issues, we should give him a call. I haven't had any problems with any of my stuff leaking since then. While I've had hiccups here and there with American Home Shield, I'm more satisfied with them than with my last company.

He was very professional and he explained everything that he did. He went and clicked on the side of the house a couple of times and told me to turn the AC to a certain temperature. I didn't feel like he was trying to manipulate me or get any extra money out. He just went and did what he had to do as opposed to do. He was able to get me some cool air whereas the other contractor wanted $1,000 extra and other things. I've been at my location for 15 years. When the AHS people schedule, the contractors are there pretty quickly within a day. Also, it’s easier to pay the copay and just have the contractor come and they take care of it. I have four brand-new GE appliances, just about a year old. I didn’t know they were junk when I bought them. I’ve been trying to get my dishwasher fixed through GE ‘cause it’s still under warranty. They couldn't find the parts for eight weeks now. The GE tech said he'd be around the corner and he’d call me. I told him that I’m five minutes away. He said that since I am not home, he would leave and be back next Friday. I finally gave up. Then I called American Home Shield when the microwave went. The Sears guy came, looked at my appliance and fixed it. He was wonderful.

I’ve had AHS since we bought the house and I love the coverage due to the fact that it protects us, and they do what they say they're gonna do. A guy from Appliance Guard came out to repair a refrigerator and did a fabulous job. His customer service was stellar. He cared about what he was doing, which made me much happier. He noticed that there was a minor problem still so I contacted the company today. I have to send them the model number, and they said it’s not gonna be any extra charge to me because they have to come out and complete the repair. Everything turned out great.
But in the beginning we’ve had some major problems. Calling in is a nightmare sometimes. How the customer service reps handle the calls is ridiculous. No customers should have to repeat themselves 100 times. They should not be ignored. The first thing that’s on your customer service mind is money and how something is getting paid. The reps wanna hurry up and rush you. They don't really give a care. They just wanna see who they can assign out to you and then, that’s pretty much it. I find that to be not comforting either.
And then what really upset me recently was they did not tell us that the service charge went up, which was very rude. If you’re gonna raise the charges on a customer common courtesy is saying, “Hey, we went up on the service charge. It’s no longer $75.” It was 80 something dollars. But overall, I love the service and the program. I already gave a friend of mine American Home Shield's information. I gave her their phone number so she can contact them. That would be good for her to get coverage because she owns a lot of houses and some apartments. I told her that would help her out a lot if she invested in that program.

I was told someone would call me within the next 24 hours. First Class Mechanical did and we set up an appointment for the next day. I prefer talking with people and usually call AHS to submit claims. That way, I can explain what I’m trying to communicate better than if I wrote it down. I don’t know all the exact terms, but I can explain it. I trust AHS and kept them for 20 years. They have dealt correctly with me. In all of the time that I have worked with them, the only real problem I had was about two years ago when I had to replace a dishwasher.
The contractor came out and it took them over six months to finally say, “We can’t fix this thing. So, we’re just gonna get you a new one.” The dishwasher was a Bosch and one of the repair people that came out said, “I’ve never seen one of these.” He said that he'd have to call and figure out how to get into it. Bosch is very hard to deal with and to get into and work on. They had to keep waiting for parts and when they got it, they'd say, “I thought this came with this.” It was one delay after the other, but they were persistent and kept at it. Finally, they said that it wasn't working and ended up getting us a different dishwasher. For my AC claim, Royal Flush came out and did an excellent job. They were fast, efficient, and they knew exactly what to do. I was very pleased.

I have a claim with AHS for my air conditioner and they sent out United Air. I've talked to AHS. It's very difficult to get a person. I spent over 10 hours on the phone yesterday and most of it was waiting to get a person. And when I got a person, they weren’t able to give me the information that I needed. I’m working from home and I missed a call a couple of minutes ago from someone who was trying to explain to me why a repair on my unit is going to cost me $2,214. I get that I have an older unit. Also, the same vendor that is working with AHS is charging me $7,000 to replace the unit and AHS is only giving me a $900 credit. It makes me feel like I don't have a warranty. It doesn't make sense to me. I am not a happy customer.
The call that I missed was from the person in authorization who will explain AHS’s position on the matter. I can reach the technician readily because they’re the ones that would either get the $2,000 or $6,100 from me. But I missed the call from the person who would give me the same breakdown of cost and coverage. I spent all my workday on hold yesterday waiting to talk to the right person. You don't wanna complain because everyone’s living in COVID-19 and we understand how it’s changed the dynamics of everyone’s day. But it’s beyond ridiculous. I probably only had a conversation with maybe an hour and a half with people at AHS and that would be generous to say.
What was even more insulting was my coworker had an AC unit go out as well. It felt very cookie-cutter because when I shared with her what my options were, those were the same options that were given to her. I’m looking at other providers to see what options I have. I have a home warranty that I’ve been paying for but meanwhile, my air conditioner is still out. And tomorrow, it’s supposed to hit 90 degrees.
My house was built in 2002 and I moved in right about this time. I never had a home warranty, except for what you get when the house is new. For the onesie-twosie claims and small repairs like a clogged toilet, the home warranty has been good. But when it comes to a major system, like with my air conditioner, it’s having zero support. When it comes to a claim where you really need assistance, it is very unbalanced.
For AHS to either pay $900 for a $7,000 system or $2,000 out-of-pocket for a repair is not having any assistance. I’m not ungrateful because $900 rounded up to $1,000 on a $7,000 bill, it’s as if I had nothing. If they pay for half of the replacement, then fine. Even if they put a couple of thousand dollars towards it I would feel like, “Okay, well, that is some support.” But with this, it’s equivalent to not having any coverage. It’s insulting. I feel like the used car salesman situation because you walk away feeling ripped off. If my auto insurance treated me like this, I would go to another company. I pay a higher premium, but I feel like it’s a good deal because it’s a good return on my investment. I pay a higher premium to have a lower deductible.
Regina,
Thanks for your feedback. I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your request and I have tried to contact you via email, phone, as well as on the Consumer Affairs site, however, I have not received a response from you. The owners that I bought the house from chose American Home Shield and I went ahead and extended out a year ‘cause I’ve not been displeased. My hot water heater was replaced. The contractor that came did a good job. They were professionals. They seemed like they knew what they were doing. They weren’t out there very long. They also fixed the leaking faucet in my bathtub. All in all, they were here a couple of hours, but they had to wait on me to go get a money order to pay for the code stuff. I had to pay out of pocket to have it brought up to code. I have a friend who is a plumber who said they did everything that what they had me pay for wasn’t part of code, and what was code, they didn’t do. So, I don’t know how true that is ‘cause I don’t really know what is required for it to be up to code.
The things that aren’t covered, like bringing something up to code, ought to be an option for coverage. I paid $99 a month for five months for a year of coverage. If I could pay $125 a month for five months for a year of coverage and have my stuff that isn’t coded as an option to be brought up to code so I wouldn’t have to pay that out of pocket like that, that would be good. I would’ve purchased that option.

I called up Home Shield and requested service for someone to come and check the refrigerator. There was a slight hold for maybe 20 minutes but that was okay. They gave me a confirmation number and they told me who was coming. It was Sears. And they told me what the date was and what the window would be based on the scheduling that they were able to determine. We lost our freezing in our refrigerator and we had to empty it all out and I unplugged it. I plugged it a day before Sears was gonna come out. It had to be on for longer before he could figure out what the problem was. Then, it died again and came back, but the freezer is at minus one and they recommended zero. It was close, but the fridge part is up at 60s and it should be down around 35. That part is not working and the tech has to come back.
The thing died again three hours after he left. I tried to call and I spent close to five hours on hold. There were at least six or seven calls where I was on hold for a good 30 to 45 minutes. No one was answering the phone and that kind of irked me. I tried different numbers and different options. I understand things have gone up-side-down everywhere right now. If they had to close down because of COVID impact or something like that, all they have to do is say they would not able to handle any claims right now. But they kept saying my call is so important and to hold on. You listen to that five or six times for 45 minutes, you get a little irritated. That has been my biggest issue.
But I spoke with someone from American Home Shield. I explained to her what had happened and why the tech has to come back. They said I would hear from him. And Sears was fine. It’s just that the tech wasn’t able to figure what was going on because it didn't have the chance to run long enough to see what was going on. We didn’t know that unplugging could impact his ability to check, but where it was over almost six and half days, there was no point of running up an electricity charge for a refrigerator that wasn’t working. Not to mention, it may start overheating.
Also, they have this thing called My Account they asked me to set up. I figured it would be a place where it would be like a contact thing but the only way I was able to contact was if I did the service request and I didn’t wanna do that because that took us $125 charge. I wanted to speak to a body so I could explain to him what happened and see whether I was gonna get hit with another charge for the tech to come back the second time. As it turned out, the answer is no, which I’m happy to hear. If it had been yes, I would not be a happy camper given the attempts to just get a body on the phone. It seems that this past week, the light’s on, but nobody’s home.

I would open up a request online whenever there is a problem. And then, the way Home Shield normally works is they make two appointments. First, the technician would come and assess the situation. If there were any replacements, he would go back and he would work with the Home Shield offline, and then he would make the second visit to replace the part.
Because of the coronavirus, I requested the customer support so that he can approve the garbage disposal replacement. I insisted on making everything one call instead of two appointments. I didn’t want a technician to come again. And initially, the Home Shield rep said that it was not in his control. That was the reason why my claim was delayed. Finally, the call was transferred to another department. It was 5 to 10 minutes time on the call, but the issue was resolved. The tech identified the issue, which was the converter. He replaced the garbage disposal. I’m happy with the outcome, but it could have been not a 10-minute call. Nevertheless, I’m happy with Home Shield.

There was a cracked elbow on the washing machine drain in between the laundry room and the kitchen. I called American Home Shield and it used to be very easy. When I called them, I would be talking with somebody from Oklahoma or Iowa. But whatever the accent was, I had no trouble understanding or communicating with. Whereas right now, I feel like 50% of the time, it's hit or miss. But that’s my only thing. For this claim, submitting it didn't seem to turn out bad.
Anytime Home Services said they would get a guy out to evaluate the situation and they did. The tech had to come up with something. He couldn't fix it right then and there but it was no big deal. They came out a second time, fixed the problem, and didn't charge me. When he was fixing it, he had to cut out a certain section and that vibration, in turn, caused another leak. But they fixed all that. Everything has been working great since they fixed it. Home Shield is doing a good job.

If you do claims online to American Home Shield, it’s a lot quicker. Sometimes, you might have a little bit of a hold time if you do it over the phone. We’ve done it both ways. We did a claim recently. The house wasn’t cooling, and ice was forming outside and downstairs at the furnace area as well. Dudley’s HVAC & Maintenance came out. They were amazing, very professional, very courteous, and friendly. They had very helpful information that they were giving, and they showed up when they said they would. They had to order parts. Because of not having the part and needing to be approved with American Home Shield, and then having to have it ordered and sent, and then also the coronavirus with the shipping, the repair took a little bit longer. It was a week and a half by the time they got the part and was able to come and get it done.
As far as the coverage of the air conditioning, they could improve on that because it’s the most costly appliance that you have in your home. The coverage on it is not very good. This is not the first time we’ve had to have stuff looked at as far as the AC unit is concerned. We’ve had other issues with other appliances in the house, and they’ve been pretty good about fixing or replacing.

I had a water problem from the kitchen on a Memorial Day weekend and I couldn’t wash dishes until that was resolved. I spoke to someone from American Home Shield and they told me when I could expect to hear from a contractor. I heard from Water Control Plumbing immediately and they came out the same day. They were real thorough and professional. They explained exactly what they were doing and what the issue was. They resolved the problem with no issues. I’ve had American Home Shield for a few years now and the experience has been great. If I ever have an issue with a contractor, they make sure to send out another contractor that I am satisfied with. American Home Shield has been nothing but professional with me.

I’m in Florida and my well went dry. I didn’t have any water. So I called AHS and I had put my well pump on the paperwork so it’d be covered. They sent somebody right out. But I had to have a new well built so it ended up costing me about $6000 just to get some water. AHS put out $1500 for the pump but the rest I had to pay. Also our smoke detector wouldn’t shut off. It just kept on going and going even if you change the battery. Submitting a claim with AHS has been pretty easy.
The only thing I have to say is I went through all the paperwork online and told them what I needed done and everything else and they assigned somebody that’s from Tampa. I had to call them back and go through the process again. I told them, “Don't you have anybody closer to me? That’s 100 and some miles away. I would like it fixed today, not next month.” So they got an electrical guy very close by and I told him about it and he said, “They bid cheaper than everybody else, so they try to assign all the jobs to them, no matter how far away it is.” I said, “Well, that’s my only problem.” If I hadn’t caught it, I’d have been waiting for about two days before they even show up. But overall, I've been with AHS for 2 years and I’m happy with them.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

It was difficult because we were without water in the house. Still, AHS's contractor came on the day they promised. They needed a part and they had one guy get that. They did a good job. There was a claim I made where they sent out Veteran Rooter. I really like them. They fixed the issue. Their tech was professional and knowledgeable. He was nice and kind too. I used to feel AHS was a good company, but not anymore. Have been a customer for years and never really needed service. From one-hour or longer hold times to speak to a representative (even at 3am since they're a 24 hour company), to the contractors that are sent, AHS has become horrible. Had minor plumbing issues - first plumber came out, spent 20 minutes 'reviewing' everything and told me nothing would be covered. Then I get a call from AHS saying all repairs are denied, but if I wanted this company to fix my issues, I could pay them $875 to do it. I disagreed and but was told I could get a 'second opinion'. So, AHS sent out another shady company - this tech told me different stories, offered repairs at an even higher price and said everything would be declined.
The tech told me his company only does work for AHS and everything gets declined and the only work he does is cash payments when people still need to get the repairs done and AHS won't pay for it. He even openly admitted it was all a scam and I was better off to hire a handyman. None of the companies have provided me with anything in writing so I can prove their scam. AHS called me while the second plumber was still at my home because they were disconnected and asked to speak to the him, but I declined and said I could conference him in on the call - AHS said that was okay, but the plumber said I couldn't listen to their conversation. If this is about my plumbing, and they aren't lying or keeping secrets, why shouldn't I be able to hear their discussion?
You'll notice the contractors will never speak to AHS in front of a customer because they are in bed together and plot ways to scam the customer. AHS supposedly asks 5 simple questions and based on the contractor's response, determines whether or not the items would be covered. If it is so simple, and just 5 questions, why would I not be allowed to hear it? Later, I found the second plumber actually caused additional damage to my master bathroom - where I originally only had a minor drip from the faucet, I now have a severe pipe leak underneath from where he pushed on the pipes while 'inspecting' it and I was not in the room.
I have learned that AHS will send out 'their preferred' contractor companies - meaning shady companies they have agreements with and trained on how to deny any/all repairs for one reason or another. At the end of the day, I had my plumbing issues resolved outside of AHS completely. I am waiting on hold to cancel my contract - and oh yes, it is another one hour + phone call of sitting and listening to their on hold music. Good luck if you are reading this review. I would not wish this company on my worst enemy. Please avoid like the plague (or Covid-19) as this is not someone you want to trust to make any repairs, timely or otherwise, when you need them.

When I called in, it took a very long time to talk to somebody because I didn't wanna get somebody out regarding the wrong service. There are two services for AC. I wanted to make sure I got the right one. That's the only reason why I hailed on the phone and not create a ticket online. AHS handled it well. The only problem I had was that the phone just kept on cutting in and out and it was really hard to understand the person on the other end. And I thought it was my phone at first, and then today, when I talked to him again, the same problem.
The people were very pleasant to work with. They both answered my questions. The only dissatisfactory thing I had to say is just the hold time. I called them at 8:32 and they answered probably about 9:10. And the service that I needed was that my home was not cooling down. And so, the tech came out, he was very professional, told me I had no Freon in my unit. So, we tested it to see if there was a leak, there was no leak, and they added some Freon the next day. Once that occurred, the temperature in the house went down really quickly. Last night, we had our thermostat set for 75 and it would never cool down. It would stop at 77 and the outside temperature got cooler than the inside temperature. That's very odd for us. It's a little frustrating but the tech was very good.
My father had AHS on this for about five years. I took over the house for him and the renewal of American Home Shield. This is a tremendous service. I believe that what I'm paying for is worth the price. Every time that we've dealt with them, they've been very professional and fixed all the problems. It has actually been very good for us.

I had a claim for the gas water heater. The pilot light would not stay on, which is a thermocouple. I contacted BlueTech Plumbing and I sent the tech serial numbers of the information for the water heater and pictures of what he needed to know. I was asleep during the service call, but everything was completed in one trip because he had the information to get the correct part. It went very smooth. BlueTech Plumbing communicated with me. The tech got me essentially the same day service and I was very pleased with them.
My coverage with American Home Shield has worked out very well. But I had one scenario that I was not pleased with, and I really needed to take it up with my utility company, which is Arizona Public Service. What happened was I had two electric service line replaced to my house before I purchased American Home Shield. The power company, Three Phase Electric, did not do it correctly in October. When I was ready to turn on my Three Phase Electric air conditioner in June, it did not work. I was in the hospital when I needed that they be turned on because I was being discharged. I called American Home Shield to send out an air conditioner technician, and all they did was come out and say that I needed an electrician because electricity was not being delivered to the air conditioner. So there was $100 deposit.
I called the electrician and I used American Home Shield. There was another $100 deposit. He said the electricity was not being delivered to the house. The electric company did interface through Arizona Public Service but there was no interface between me and the power company. The electrician that American Home Shield sent out provided that interface service for me for the $100. But that was $200 to find out for the blame game and pointing fingers at everybody else.
The air conditioner company could’ve took it a step further, besides saying we were not delivering the proper amount of electricity to the air conditioner unit. Because air conditioner guys are basically electricians. They work with electricity. The air conditioner company could’ve said we needed the proper amount of electricity delivered to the house, instead of making me spend another $100 through American Home Shield for the deductible to hire an electrician to say that.
That has been my only dissatisfaction using American Home Shield, and American Home Shield is not at fault over that scenario. It was the contractors. These claims took place almost year-to-date. There’s many other home warranty companies that I could try. But so far, American Home Shield has earned my business. I’m gonna renew my contract with them.

The oven would not turn on. It's a propane gas oven. My parents live at that address that we have covered. The gentleman was there for quite a while that day. He left and said it was fixed. That was on last Friday. Then, on Sunday, was the first time they went to try to turn the oven on to use it but it still wouldn't come on. So, Monday, I just got back on by internet, and put to do a recall that the oven still wouldn't come on and they let me know yesterday that they will come back tomorrow between 8:00 to 12:00. It was easy for me because I'm not computer-friendly. And I've been pleased so far because I have been able to go on and do it myself. So, if I can do it, it's easy.
So far, I've been pleased with all of the contractors. Last year my ice maker gave me a fit at my parents' house and Sears was the people that kept coming. It took them a while to finally get the part correctly fixed and they ended up not replacing my refrigerator. It did take several visits, but it was good. I've had Fixx My Appliance twice and I've had Sears on two different things. We've had great luck so far.
At that house where I bought my first one, I have a swimming pool. I know I got it in writing, emailed to me. But it wasn't something that I was aware of. The salt cell that if your swimming pool is a salt system is not covered. Mine got hit by lightning through the winter and it was not covered by Home Shield. I was just thinking that when I got it for the pool too, that all of that was covered. I just feel maybe if they're selling to somebody with a pool, they need to make sure they only are covering the pump. They're not covering if they're a salt system.
But other than that, we have been very pleased with the services that we have gotten. I've had my stove, and my oven and microwave has been replaced, and one of my washing machine pumps, and my swimming pool pump. My parents had a refrigerator leak that was corrected. And then, they're working on the oven now, and then, I have had my refrigerator-icemaker. So, we've been 100% pleased with Home Shield. Even though the warranty is in my name, I'm the one that got my parents to do one. And then, I've talked to my sister in law to tell her she needs to get one too.
My oven would have costed me over $2,500. And so, it was fully replaced because the parts weren't available. And sometimes, you might just really not want that piece of equipment anymore. But the thing is, if the contractor can repair it, they're going to repair it. But what they can't repair, they will replace, and they've done that for me on my oven-microwave combo. So, I've told several people that they need to do it, especially if they've got a little age on their stuff.

American Home Shield was recommended by one of my Realtor's colleagues. They’ve been easy to work with and responsive to claims so we went with them. I wasn’t clear about the process during my first call. I asked how it would work if a replacement was needed and if I could purchase something that’s more expensive and pay the difference myself. Paying the $100 service fee was fine, but I didn’t wanna do that and have the contractors come and say that the unit had to be replaced. And then not being able to get what I really wanted and have to purchase that outside of the home warranty. I wanna know that process ahead of time. I don't wanna have a particular brand or model shoved at me. The ladies who helped me weren’t allowed to transfer me to the department that handles that but they were wonderful, very polite, and helpful.
With my recent claim, from the time I called to request the service, everyone at Home Shield was great. The gentleman from Johnson's who did the repairs was polite and timely. When he said he was gonna be here, he was here at that time. The repair took a week because there was a weekend involved. But I got a notification that the part was entered the same day that he was here for the service call. Then, he called the same day that he received the part and he came and fixed it. When Brick Street Plumbing came out, I told them that water was running down my wall into my bathroom downstairs and that my two faucets were leaking. You turn them off but they weren't all the way off. The tech changed those two faucets and then for the water stuff, he tightened the bolt on the bottom of my toilet. When he tightened the bolt, he said, "Keep flushing it and let's see if any more water goes downstairs." I was flushing it and it didn't seem like any more water was running. So he said that that fixed it. But I told him that it didn't make sense that a bolt on the floor of the toilet would make the water stop flowing down the wall downstairs. He replied, "Well, you don't see any more water."
A day later, I was taking a shower and water was running everywhere downstairs. I called them back and the tech came back. He went downstairs to the bathroom and I showed him how the water was coming down the wall. He looked over in the other part and the water was coming up from the bottom from the sewer thing. He told me that it had to be snaked out to the street and that he would have to go get a snake. But he never came back. He never called. Nobody called me. Nobody did anything. So a day or so later, I called him and asked him what was going on since I haven't heard anything and he was supposed to come back with a snake. He said, "No. I had to get authorization from American Home Shield and American Home Shield denied it."
He added that they were supposed to call me. He also said that his company was gonna charge me $850 to clear my mind. But that was ridiculous. I would snake myself through the pipes before I pay anybody $850. This guy was not in my house for 15 minutes. From eyeballing it, he already determined what was wrong but he was not that good. So I called American Home Shield. Nobody from there had ever called me, even though they said that they had called me. When I finally got through to them, that number four or number F on my policy does not permit the snaking to the street. I told them that the tech didn't touch anything and the only thing he did was screw a bolt from the toilet to the floor. He didn't test nothing. The lady told me to hold on and she would see if they could get me a second opinion. I was on hold for about 40 minutes and I just hung up because I was too frustrated to deal with it anymore.
There was no way I could've let my bathroom and water go that long. That was over two weeks ago. I called somebody else and $400 to fix it. It's fixed now. I took him down to the basement where the stuff was coming up from the ground and he snaked out and cleared my line. But the next day, the water was coming back down my wall again while taking a shower. I ended up with two separate issues. But because I don't go down in my basement that often, I didn't realize that they weren't the same issue. That guy balled up toilet paper and threw it my toilet and flushed it. He had me to turn on the faucet, flush the toilet, and turn on the water over the shower. He had me to do things just so he could figure out exactly what was going on. But the guy from Brick didn't touch anything. He didn't do anything but tighten a bolt on the toilet thing.
I didn't wanna go through anybody else with American Home Shield because American Home Shield didn't even have the decency to dial my ten to let me know what was going on. I was very agitated with the whole situation and I'm not sure how much longer I'm gonna be with American Home Shield. I don't like it when people do me like that. I was very dissatisfied.

The refrigerator has been repaired multiple times. A tech changed the compressor and it lasted a day. Then, he came back out again and did something else. It lasted for two days. He came back out again, did something, and it lasted for a few days. Now, it's not working at all. A tech from TT&D came out and said it was beyond repair. The computer board inside is reading that the temperature is as it should be but the compressor's not coming on. He said he was gonna tell Home Shield that he suggests this unit be replaced. But Home Shield does not follow up in a timely fashion. They take a very long time. I should have had a replacement refrigerator by now. This has been a few weeks.
Also, I've had multiple problems with multiple claims. I still have a hood vent that they're gonna replace but they want me to go buy it. They want me to hire somebody to install it and then they want me to submit all the bills to them. That's not what I paid for. I didn't pay for me to go do all the legwork. Their service has gone down the drain in the past year, with the length of time it takes to handle something and the number of calls that you have to do to get somebody to do something.

I’ve always used AHS and I’ve been doing business with them forever. I requested them to come out and set a repair for the pump for my pool. They set it up with Watertight Pool. It was on the Memorial Day weekend and Watertight Pool said they’d be out around Wednesday. I’ve had them before and they have always done a fantastic job for me. Tyra, who works for Watertight Pool, is fantastic. She sends out the appointments and also a manager of 100 people. If I have 100 of her, I would never have to worry about my job. She was that good. The guy that came out was excellent. He did what he told me he needed to get done and it only took him about an hour or so. The repair saved me from having to put out more money on the water bill.

The washer wasn’t turning on. It wasn’t quite cycling through at all. The contractor came and they ordered a part but it didn’t fix the problem. The guy closed the ticket without completing the job. So AHS had to start everything over again. It was quite frustrating because I called AHS every day for two weeks until they were able to send out another person. I told them that the guy did close the case. But he didn’t close it. It was still open. Therefore, they couldn’t do anything else until the first company closed the ticket. It took me two weeks of calling and then talking to that person. We kinda had to go through the whole process again.
I talked to one person in customer service and I received one response. Then I called back the next day and I received a different response. Until finally, somebody was able to solve it. But it took multiple calls to take care of the situation. AHS should give more training in the customer service. It was a call center overseas and that might have been part of the issue. AHS sent out Appliance Express and they did very well. A guy came out and something wasn't connected to a terminal so he connected it. He was in and out in five minutes. In taking care of the problem, the contractors did what they were supposed to do. I just had issues with customer service.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

We chose Home Shield because of the services that they provide, the rekey service and the annual air conditioning spring tune-up, and the reputation. That's the big thing. With submitting claims, I had some issues getting the air conditioning servicing scheduled because I was originally told they don't do that anymore and that was not part of my contract. I got several excuses and I had to go through several gyrations on that. Finally, somebody called me and she was able to go ahead and move past all that. Other than that, they communicate very well. They do a very good job of communicating with the customers and following up.
I was a little disappointed with who came out for the air conditioning and the work the tech performed. It was an annual service and what should be done with the annual service is they should check charges and all that stuff and clean the units. The tech didn't do a very good job cleaning. He sprayed it a little bit, but he should be putting detergent on the coils. And there were a lot of leaves at the bottom of it. But Sooner Lock & Key did fine for my rekeying claim. They showed up when they said they would, they did what they needed to, and they were very efficient. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with Home Shield.

Yesterday, we had an electric issue. I placed the call and paid for it. AHS sent me an email saying who was the individual that was gonna be coming by but they never called me. So, I called the number and said my pool is getting stagnant and I needed it to run. I also asked when were they gonna be out here. They said probably not until next week. I asked them what if it was an urgent issue. They said I'm gonna have to find someone else.
I had another HVAC issue and they did the same thing. They didn’t even call. Nothing. So, I called and complained and AHS sent out Excalibur. Excalibur has been phenomenal since they’ve been on the job. I wish there was a way for me to choose what vendor comes out. As soon as I saw Excalibur, I knew from last year that they were amazing and on point. They came by probably within less than 24 hours. They were great with their PPE. They didn’t even have to go inside the house.
Sometimes, I call on my way to work and I get a live person. One thing I do like is their ability to go online and place the request for service. But it's a hit or miss. 75% of the time, their vendors are horrible. I've been with AHS for 8 years and things have gotten worse. I'm frustrated with them right now because I was on the phone for about 2 hours trying to cancel my appointment. I had to wait for my time on the phone. I shouldn’t have to do that when I pay $1,200 a year. But I have an older home and I need the coverage, and AHS is probably better than others out there.

I had issues with my air conditioning not turning on. The tech came to check in to it and it was working. Then he told me to let him know if it turned off and he would come back. It did turn off as soon as he left and he came back right away and found that it was the fuse. He said that that was something that he could not do and that I had to call an electrician to come and do that part. Other than that, he was very informative. He said he would also help me by submitting that request to get someone right away to deal with the fuse issue that kept shutting off the air conditioner. So I went ahead and made a claim. But it looks like he made it for me as well so he was very kind to do that. Then within two days, I was able to get someone to come. It's something so simple and my air conditioner has been working really well since. Not being able to sleep is the worst feeling but it has worked out really good.
The only thing that I did not like was the wait. When I call, they normally take 48 hours to come to the house. We were going through a heatwave so we had no air for four days because I had to wait the 48 hours for each of the service providers to come to the house. Other than that, I like Home Shield. The $75 is very affordable. The response was quick to get someone to come to the house but it was not quick to come and repair it. Someone did contact me right away to set up an appointment but we had to wait the 2 days for them to come and do it. Still, I’m due to renew so I’m going to be renewing again. I also saw that they have the roofing. I'm always cautious and I'm thinking about adding to my American Home Shield.

At first, Home Shield said they were gonna send out Sears but they said it was gonna take two weeks. So I told them that they gotta find somebody else. They did and they found me this fellow from Appliance Plus. It worked out great. The tech did a great job. He diagnosed the problem immediately. He said it was gonna take about a week, and two days later, he was back with the part. So he overachieved and under deadline. This case was excellent. But I had a case about a month ago with an oven and it took a while. They finally replaced it but it took about four weeks chasing people. So that wasn’t so simple. They kept bouncing it from one department to another department. A customer shouldn’t be three weeks without an oven. But most of the time, Home Shield is excellent.

The air conditioner was tripping the circuit breaker and when I flipped it back, it came on but it wasn't cooling. I went online and submitted the claim to American Home Shield. It said to call them if we didn't hear back from Seabreeze within 24 hours and the contractor called me within 10 minutes. The guy was on time. We were given a 9:00 to 11:00 window and he was here at 9:00 AM sharp. In 15 minutes, off he went. It was a great experience. The AC is perfect since he has been out.
A couple of neighbors of ours have AHS and they raved about them. So, we just went with them automatically. I’ve been with them for at least five years and I’ve used them only three times. I also had a water heater go out and I had an oven that wouldn't shut off for 24 hours. I posted a claim and the guy was here when he was supposed to be. He fixed it right away. AHS has been good for me. Owning a house is great but the maintenance can be really costly. The price of having AHS per month is not near what we would have spent if we didn't have the warranty.

Home Shield's tech people are all consolidated in one area. It seems like a certain group has a monopoly on their service calls. They all come from 818 area code and they never have anything kind of near here. The only time it wasn't was when I requested a certain contractor who would probably closer to come out here to change my valve.
But the first time that something left a bad taste in my mouth after a transaction was when Right Tech Heating & Air came out for an AC claim. In the past, I've had four to seven pounds of Freon put in and it has taken at least 10 to 15 minutes. Their guy claimed that my unit needed 17 punts and that he put 17 pounds in less than eight minutes. I was out there timing it. And he couldn't show me how many pounds he actually put in. I felt that I was definitely sandbagged. Home Shield might say it's beyond their control but if they're doing business with companies that are sending out techs that are shysters, then that's something that they have to consider before continuing a contract with a business of that nature. I should've held back paying the tech, but I got a good record with the warranty company. I'm not sure if that was gonna affect the relationship with them or anything like that. Other than that, I've been happy with American Home Shield.

I tell more people about American Home Shield. We've been with them when we bought our first house in 2006. We're in our second house and we've had it just for the comfort of knowing that we could have something fixed. Our air conditioners are a year by year thing. Lane Services usually come out to my house a lot for my AC and we love them. We get better work done out of them than we get out of most people. There was one that they pieced some part just to keep one of the units running. They couldn’t get the one capacitor that they needed, so they put two or three together to make one. The thing is still running, but it's just getting so old that we needed a new air conditioner and to get it replaced is gonna be a lot of money out of our pocket.

Our AC was leaking like it was raining off the coils and it was ‘cause the refrigerant was out. Submitting a claim for it with AHS was easy. I just did it online. It was really quick. Once I figured out where it was, it was really simple. I submitted it on Saturday, and they brought somebody out on Monday. The contractor that came saw part of the issue. He added the refrigerant. But then I had to call them back out to do a follow-up to where they came back out again because he didn’t clear the blockage that was in the pipes. It was still leaking, just from a different area. There were two different problems and the first guy fixed the refrigerant, which got everything working again. Then the other guy came out and fixed the actual leak that was coming from the pipes. I paid my $75, they came out, fixed it and fixed it again the second time for nothing. It was perfectly good with me. So far, so good.

The washing machine was fixed and although it still leaks, I think it's because there's too much water. The contractor readjusted the drum, however, it's old and just can't take as much water as it could before. But I'm fine with that. It's just in the garage so it can leak a little if I have to put on the full load. The other issue was with the exhaust fan hood. The contractor ordered the parts but was not able to install them. Because of the age of the system, there was no way to remove the panels to install the parts. The exhaust fan hood is going to be replaced and I'm still waiting for the call back about the replacement.
The contractor is supposed to come back for the oven. It doesn't maintain the heat when I cook for a long period. When he was here, we heat it up, but there was nothing in it. He was here for about 20 minutes but it was not the same thing as when you actually cook something. He's gonna look at it again and see. We couldn't find the serial number before, but maybe he'll try again this afternoon just to see. When my sister bought her house, I had given her a contract for years, but she wasn't able to continue it.

I had American Home Shield at my residence in Maryland for about nine years before we moved down here. I had a problem with the air conditioner there. First, they replaced the A-frame and then they ended up with the outdoor compressor. I was pleased with it. Here, I had the 10-year homeowner's warranty for the new construction home. While everything was new, I wasn't too concerned about it, but once they started putting some age on, I went ahead and re-upped. It's about a year and a half this time. Overall, I've been with them for about 10 and a half years.
Recently, my air conditioner here wasn't working. I filed the claim online and I got a follow-up from the email. It gave me the contact information for the contractor. I called them that night but got their emergency line and just left a message. I was surprised that they came out the next morning at 8 o'clock. The tech came up with a work-around. Apparently, it was a capacitor in which mine is dual, one for the motor and the other for the compressor. The side for the motor was out and he didn't have a dual capacitor on his truck. But he had a single capacitor that he was able to wire up. So, he left the compressor side wired to the existing capacitor and then just installed a single capacitor to handle the motor, and that was what solved the problem. I was pretty impressed with his ability to get it up and running that particular day with the work-around. It's a 16-year-old unit so I'm fully expecting to use them again.

I’ve always had good luck with AHS. The water heater and the air conditioner sit side-by-side and I filed a claim for what I initially thought was my water heater. At first, AHS sent out a plumber. He diagnosed that the issue wasn’t the plumbing. It was the air conditioner. I then called AHS and they sent out an air conditioning person that fixed it right away. It was a very good experience.
However, they canceled one policy, which was on another home. I asked them why they canceled after 20 years. The rep said I didn’t meet their criteria anymore. I asked what their criteria were and maybe I could change that. She said that it was just not their criteria. It boils down to my home and appliances were getting older. I have AHS at our second home at the lake. And so far, I’ve met their criteria. I kinda watch it and if there’s something that wouldn’t be in the neighborhood of what I would normally pay, I will have the issue repaired myself so I will continue to meet their criteria. Like with any kind of insurance, if you use AHS too much, they're gonna cancel you. I was happy with them until I didn’t meet their criteria anymore. I have sold them to so many people. I was probably their best salesman.

There was a horrible vendor a couple of years ago when I had service done on an AC unit. The guy threw some Freon on the unit and it eventually died. He should’ve known that it was on its way out anyway. He really messed it up and I didn’t find that out until after he was long gone and after the 30 days. Home Shield didn’t handle it and I had to buy a whole unit. The guy patched it up and said it was okay when really, it wasn’t okay and I got stuck with a bill. I wasn’t happy about that at all. Then, I had a plumbing issue where I thought we had a leaky pipe. United Air Temp came out and the tech tore out the wall and it was just a stain on the ceiling. I received an AHS home warranty with the purchase of a condo. When the AC didn't work, AHS sent Relaxed Heating and Air. At the first visit, the repairman said he needed to charge me $80 for "coolant" which wasn't covered by the warranty and said that AHS would not allow him to test anything else until he had put in the coolant. He didn't even look at the part of the unit that is inside the condo, only looked outside. He put it in and presented a bill for $123! This obviously didn't stop the noise and didn't cool the condo. I called AHS who said they would send them back and "If it is the same problem according to the technician, you won't be charged another $75."
Visit 2, claimed it needed a new motor. He took the part numbers and said he needed to clean the unit for $280. I said no. I got multiple phone calls from the office about how you shouldn't put a new motor in a dirty housing and how I should pay for it. "Technician" came back and had the wrong part which didn't fit....said he'd get the right part first thing in the morning and set up another appointment. Got more phone calls from office about cleaning. I said no. Next day, I called the office; they claimed they couldn't contact the technician by phone or text, so I called AHS. Funny thing, 10 minutes later, they said the tech was on the way. Visit 4, he put in new motor with correct part. He told ME to "turn off the breaker." (Pretty brave--isn't it HIS job to make sure it is off?) New motor runs (old motor ran too). Condo still doesn't get cool.
I called another company, fully knowing that AHS wouldn't cover it. They did not know what company had been there before but were shocked at the "cleaning" story. They said that anytime they install a part, they clean the housing, area, or whatever as part of the installation and that cleaning the housing amounted to 5 minutes with a hand held vacuum. They also said he should have cleaned the fans while he had them out, using the hose that is right outside the condo and the dirty water would have run down the drain right there. They did say that there was a chemical cleaning available, but that just rinsing them off with the hose would have done 95% of the cleaning.
The new company evaluated the system while wearing their masks and paying attention to social distancing. They confirmed that the new motor was running correctly by using a thermometer (Relaxed tech didn't do that). He gave me his recommendation, and said that he wanted one of his superiors to recheck his work and give me an estimate, probably the next day. He gave me the man's name. About an hour later, I got a phone call asking if he could come between 3 and 5 that same day. He showed up promptly--again, mask, distancing. Checked EVERYTHING. Took measurements, and said he would have to check on availability. E-mailed me a quote less than 24 hours later. I reviewed all the HOA rules with them. Yes, he knew all the rules, they had installed a new AC for the HOA president and work on most of the units in the building. I'm totally happy with everything the new company did.
My opinion--AHS sends the cheapest company they can get, and Relaxed Air they tries to get additional money from the client while not getting the job done. This is the second negative experience I've had with companies sent by AHS. My oven turns itself off while cooking; I have to keep checking and turning it on again if it turns off. Sometimes it doesn't happen, other times it happens 3 times while cooking one meal. The man came out, said it could be one of three parts that all have to communicate with each other, and when it completely failed to the point that it wouldn't come on at all, AHS would fix it. Until then, just keep checking it and turning it back on. They could have told me that on the phone and saved me $75! I've owned a home for 35 years and NEVER had this sort of "non-service" from a repair company. Of course, I've always been paying for the service. The companies AHS sends are just a joke.

When the dishwasher didn’t work, I called a representative at American Home Shield and they set the claim up. It was okay and I was told the contractor would call me in 24 hours, which they did. But I had two contractors out and I wasn’t really happy with either one of them. The first one came out and said the dishwasher couldn’t be fixed. That was fine. He said that if we don’t hear from them in 24 to 48 hours, to call the insurance company. We didn’t hear from anybody for about a week. I kept calling the insurance company and just got the runaround. So that was terrible service. We were left sitting there and nothing was happening. When I called the insurance and said they hadn’t gotten the report back from the other company.
A week and a half went by and I was kinda ticked off. So I called my Realtor, Berkshire Hathaway, and I guess they have a program with the insurance company. I had to have a rep for the area get ahold of me and to try to find out what’s going on. I told the rep about it. I knew there wasn’t much she could do but she jumped on it. Then American Home Shield sent out Premiere. Premiere came out when they were supposed to. The tech went and checked things and said there were a bunch of things wrong with the dishwasher. He got a report, took the report in and said that we would hear from them in a few days. Then the rep from the insurance company called me, finally, and it was timely. The rep was very good. She got the whole thing done.
She said the machine was gonna require too many parts to fix and that the next day, somebody was gonna call me and explain what they were gonna do. It was either buying a new one or paying me off. That happened the next day. Everything was done and we got the dishwasher fixed but it took about two and a half weeks. The claim wasn’t really well taken care of. Most of the time, it was crap until the area rep got involved. Then it was expedited and everything went like clockwork. The rep did an excellent job in getting the thing straightened out.

There was a loud noise but the AC wouldn’t cool, and it ended up being the motor. My wife called the 1-800 number. It was our first warm deal and everybody turned on their ACs and it was Memorial Day Weekend. Friday night is when it hit, so the contractor could not squeeze us on Saturday, but then they did Tuesday after the holiday. But it was completely understandable and they did it in the morning. They had to order a part and they got it in a day and a half and installed it the next day. I'm in Chicago and it has been cold so the AC hasn’t been needed as much. Occasionally, it's popped on and it's working fine and quiet.
That was the second time JFrank Heating & Air has been out, and both times, they were fantastic. They did a good job, they're very professional and exceeded my expectations. I'm planning on using them for my preventive maintenance and everything else. Very top-notch group. I would refer them to other people, friends, and family.

About a year and a half ago, the air conditioning stopped working and American Home Shield sent somebody over and they replaced the circulation fan. That went on and it was fine. About two weeks ago, the bearings on the fan were making a racket and so we called them up and four days later, they sent somebody. The guy that came over said it was the squirrel cage fan so he would have to order it. That took another four days without air conditioning and the temperature was a 100. The guy finally showed up and had a new squirrel cage fan. Then he showed me the old one which was perfect so that was not the problem. I asked him to check the motor. The motor that was put two years ago was shutting and they replaced that.
As an insurance company, AHS is doing fine. The problem is that when you call them and they say that they got 24 hours before they could back to you, that’s 24 hours that went away. Then when they get back, they assign the claim to somebody. Now, that person has another 24 hours before getting back to you. Then the person that gets back to you says they can’t go on that day, and then he comes over and troubleshoots it, and then they get three days more. So, we have a situation with an air conditioner which is very important and then it takes a week to fix. AHS needs to find a way to not have the lag time be as long as it is. I am happy about their ability to get the problem solved but I'm not happy about the efficiency of getting it resolved.

We find it difficult to submit the claim to American Home Shield over the phone. It’s more efficient and we get a more rapid response when it is done online. When the technician from Above and Beyond Appliance Repair came out to repair our washing machine, he was very good but it took him a long time. Once he figured it out and ordered the part and reinstalled the part, it was fine. I’ve been with American Home Shield since 2017 and the trade fee hasn’t changed but the price keeps going up every year without any explanation. Still, I feel good about them.

AHS claims process was extremely easy and the website was pretty intuitive. Assigning someone or finding someone might take a little bit, but it’s not that bad. In my case, the issue was kind of urgent. I went out of my way and called the contractor and tried to expedite their visit. They were booked and gave me a window two days out. I said that that was not acceptable and that was gonna have to call someone else. They moved things around and came quickly. My experience was very positive. Someone may have tightened the pipe underneath my sink too tightly and the washer had cracked, which caused a leak. The plumber came out and was very professional. He resolved it quickly and said that I had water damage and that I had water underneath my wood floors.
Last week, I had a one-on-one with my manager and he mentioned his air conditioner unit. I said that his predecessor and I had the same conversation and she shared with me about AHS and that it has been a lifesaver. After my call with my new boss, I sent him the link and told him he better sign up ASAP. I told him that AHS hasn't pushed back on anything so far with my claims and they have been easy. You just go and pay your 100 bucks and immediately there’s a case assigned. They assign someone who reaches out to you and comes to fix the problem.

I had just bought the home in December, and I wanted to have my air conditioning checked to see that there were no problems. And because my Realtor had gotten me a year warranty, I had to get it done this year. So, I called American Home Shield, and they said they would get in contact with somebody. By the end of that day, I got an email from them, and C and R was out by the next day. So, I was very pleased. The tech said everything looked fine.
I had another claim soon after I moved in. I went under my vanity in the bathroom, and there was something leaking. I was going on vacation the next day. I called American Home Shield again and told them. The claim went very fast and they were pleasant. I would recommend AHS but I don’t know if I would get them again next year because I think I have everything taken care of. I’m thinking to skip a couple years, and then go back to them. At $325 a year, at that point, when they inspected it and I got the house, everything seems like it’s in really good shape. So, if nothing happens for three years, I put almost $1,000 in which I could’ve bought a water softener or heater for that amount of money. Other than that, I would definitely go back to them. So, I’m gonna keep all my paperwork and everything. So, that’s what I’m gonna do.

I had an issue with the capacitor which makes the fan turn. The people that came before put the wrong size on and it blew it. I then called one of the phone numbers that I had. The time before that call, I got to speak with someone, but that time, I did not. AC Rescue was very prompt. They were explaining into my husband what was wrong and what they were going to do to fix it. They were very respectful, and they were hands-on. Everything been functioning back to normal since they have been out.
Out of all that we have had, they were the third contractor that had been here for the same issue, and this was a crew that I liked -- I hope that American Home Shield keeps them. Having this home warranty is awesome. It does not matter what you call and ask for. They are right there. They know what they are talking about, and they get everything set up for you. I have recommended Home Shield to others because I really like it. They just make the whole process simple.

The tech from Relaxed Heating & Air came out and told me not to call my Home Shield warranty company because he tried to sell me a two-unit air conditioner. He told me I needed to replace both of my units. Then in order to fix my unit, he wanted $1,400. I told him that I have Home Shield and that I would call them. He said that I didn’t need to do that because they would believe anything he would tell them. That was when I let him go. I called Home Shield right away and told them. They sent out a second opinion. He came out and said there was nothing wrong with my air conditioners. He just replaced a little silver canister. It's working right now.
I filed another claim against my garage door. The guy came out and told me that I need to rebuild the garage doors. One of the wheels came out of the track and so he put it back on. I told him that I’m not gonna rebuild. I’d just call my home warranty ‘cause he wanted $400. I called AHS and I told them what the guy did, said there was a thing that was pushed over. So, I took a 2x4, pushed it back into place, and the thing’s working fine now.

The companies that American Home Shield sends out lately haven't been the best but their customer service has really been good. I had two companies come out and the first company was bad. The person came out really quickly after I did the thing but he showed up at my house in his private vehicle. I thought that was odd. I said, "Well, apparently, you're not there to fix my stuff 'cause you're in your private vehicle." He said he was just gonna take down the information and then he would have the parts for my washer. When I called, he said he would there the next week to fix it. Around Tuesday or Wednesday of the week after that, he said he would be there by 12:00 to fix my equipment.
12:00 came around so I called him and he said sorry and that he would be there at 2:00. I was supposed to go ride my motorcycle that day and I was gonna leave at 2:00. I gave him a little leeway. But 2:00 came around and he didn't show up. Around 2:30, I called again. He said sorry again and that he would be there by 5:00. I was like, "Come on, dude. Really? You already ruined my day but okay, I'll give you till 5:00." 5 o'clock came around, then 5:30 and nobody was there. So I called about 5:30 and he said sorry, that he was in Woodbridge and that he would be there by 7:30.
I didn’t want him to come to my house anymore. I told him I was sorry, that I was supposed to go riding that day and that he had already ruined my day. I told him not to show up at my house. He said he already had my parts. But the fact of it was, he had already stood me up three times and he showed up in his private vehicle coming to my house – in a Mercedes, his own vehicle. I expect people to be in my place at a certain time and I had given him a lot of leeway.
I called American Home Shield and they handled the situation very well. They were concerned and very nice. They sent somebody back out and that company came out twice but they couldn't fix my washer. They had bought new parts for the washer and it was not working. I actually made the technician stay there to make sure that it would work. We saw it started spinning real bad again. He said nothing was gonna work with it – that I was not gonna find the parts for this. He said the problem was something underneath for the balancing of it and they couldn’t fix it. So actually, I'm gonna have a new washer coming in. I haven't had a washer now for a month and a half but at least American Home Shield was trying.
There was one more thing they did for me that was pretty neat. My air conditioner units are so old that the Freon for it won’t be made anymore starting next year. So American Home Shield gave me a rate of two new units. I'm paying $5,000 less to get two new units put in and the company is probably gonna be there at the end of next week to install the units. American Home Shield paid for most of the air conditioning unit to be replaced. They're charging me 9,500 for two units and that's the outside and inside. Most of the other people that came out had estimates between 14 and 20 grand. So I'm saving quite a bit of money. American Home Shield has been great.

The tech from Myers added 2.5 pounds of Freon to my AC. He's very knowledgeable, very professional, and very good. Having American Home Shield as my warranty provider is kind of a two-edged sword. I have Megan who is based in Iowa, and she has been helping me with a refrigeration issue. Our refrigerator was out. We've been dealing with a broken refrigerator for about three weeks, and I have been through four different technicians. The latest one, Sears, canceled on me an hour before they were supposed to show up.
People who have come out to fix the air conditioner and the technicians that have shown up to fix parts of the problem with my refrigerator have been very good. But it's been three weeks and I still do not have a refrigerator. And in today's world, most people are cooking at home. I have nothing to cook. Still, I can reach out to Megan all the time. She responds to my emails and she's been following up every day a technician comes, “How did it go? What do we need to do?” She offered $150 for a small refrigerator which really doesn't meet my needs but she was nice to offer that. She's wonderful.

The contractors that AHS sent for our AC showed up on time. They checked the system out. They told me it was working properly. It’s a new system that American Home Shield put in last summer. My wife felt it was noisy when it was on, and they felt it wasn’t. It was operating normally. The only complaint I have with AHS was that the monthly premium almost doubled from last year to this year. It’s expensive. I like American Home Shield and I had it for a good number of years. They’ve done really well by me, but it was a surprise that it would go from $56 to $104. They sent me a notice saying that this is gonna happen, and if I had any questions about it, but there’s nothing I can do with it.
But the people always seem competent. The person who put the air conditioner was exceptional. I was watching him the whole time. He was here for many hours. He put it in himself. When the refrigerator was not cooling on one side, the contractor checked the back. He had been out the week before because the refrigerator was making a lot of noise. He had to tighten some things and checked to make sure that the parts were working okay. He explained to me how to balance it out with the control dials at the top. It dropped down just for one day and hasn’t done that since then. It was an intermittent type thing. The contractor said that if I notice the refrigerator doing it again, to call him back.

Next Gen Air Conditioning & Heating came out for the air conditioner that was making noises. The guy said nothing was whirling. What he ended up doing was putting little pieces of foam on the top shield. When he left here, I thought everything was fine but it wasn't. The air conditioner is still making noises. He tried to do something, but it didn't work. But as a person, the guy was great. It couldn't be anybody better.
On that same day, I also had a plumber come out to check something else. The water heater starts off hot then it turns ice cold. When you do these things, you just pay $75 upfront, which is good. But the plumber didn't do anything. I was explaining to Home Shield that I pay money to have the insurance. It's not like it’s free. The guy who came out for the water heater said, "This needs to be done and I can do that. This is what's wrong with it." But he was here maybe 5 minutes at the most. He said he was gonna be on hold at least an hour and he didn't have the chemical that goes to my hot water heater. But he never called back. I called Home Shield and they said the claim was closed. They called and said that there was nothing wrong with it. I have the sheet that says what is wrong with it and what needs to be done. They said that I could have another person come out.
I don't wanna call again for the air conditioner because I had already called Home Shield regarding the plumber. It would be the same thing. Also, there's no reason for me to call 'cause for one thing, you can't get through. If you call right now or anytime, you're on hold for 45 minutes. To be able to get ahold of somebody is important. They say go to the website where they ask you a question and you answer it, but it's very vague. We were just getting ready to do American Home Shield again. Our time's coming up. I had everything all ready but we're gonna find someone else.

Total Air Care has come four times since March for my AC claim with Home Shield. The tech would come out, do something, and come back two weeks later and it’s not always the same one. I don't know if those technicians are reading each other’s reports. But they were very nice and very professional. They tell us when they're gonna be here and all that was fine.
The next time a guy came, he changed a couple of things and the next day, it didn’t work. I called them. And the only thing that bothered me was they would tell me when they could come and all that time, I was moving appointments around to try to take care of what I have to take care of. Then, they wanted to come like two days later. That was not acceptable. I couldn’t keep moving stuff around. I asked to speak to a supervisor who called that late morning and I explained everything that happened. I said I couldn't wait until the following day for them to come out and she offered 4:00 to 8:00 that afternoon. Everybody was very kind. It’s just that it wasn’t getting done.
The guy came and when he left at 8:30, it was working. Then, the next morning, it was out. I called back and she wanted to come two days later. I said I could take 4:00 to 8:00 of the following night. She wanted to come at 8:00 or 10:00 o’clock in the morning and I had stuff. I said I said I could do 4:00 to 8:00 and finally, she said 4:00 to 8:00. The guy came at 4 o’clock and checked all kinda stuff. He said the only thing he could see was that there was a board inside that needed to be changed. That was a Thursday and he said it would be in on Friday. He said the unit was gonna do it again before he comes back so he showed me how to trick it into coming back on. He said I may have to do that several times, but that was the only solution for me at the time.
I called that Friday and every time I would call, the system was down. It said somebody’s gonna call me in a half-hour but nobody called. I called back and said I needed to know if the part was in. I had to make arrangements. It was the weekend and I didn't wanna be in a hot house. The girl said the part was in and she would transfer me to scheduling and they scheduled me for Tuesday, between 10:00 and 12:00. They were very nice. I just had to get a little ticked off to talk to a manager because I didn’t know when they would come

My experiences with the contracting companies were great. The experience with American Home Shield was not. I specifically kept asking whether, if anything breaks, they would fully repair it or replace it if it needs to be replaced and they kept saying yes. But when I talked to a rep live, she said, “Yes, but up to.” American Home Shield ended up only paying up to $1,600 to fix the furnace. They said I was already tapped out for the year. I was like, “What are you talking about? That’s not how you sold it.”
I had them previously in Arizona for years and there was not a cap on air conditioning. If it was five grand, they would pay me five grand to replace it. Plus I had spoken to two of their girls and I explained the situation to them, and they both said the furnace was covered. I told the lady that and she said she was gonna listen to the recorded message and call me back, and she did. She said I was right. The rep had not told me there was a cap. She said that most people don’t know that and if they didn’t explain it to me, then that’s on them. One would think they would’ve actually done something then though. But they didn’t do anything. If they know they sold the warranty as 100% guaranteed, they should’ve at least let me ride my contract out for that for the year. The rep said they were gonna have to talk to their guys and make sure they’re selling it right because it was not fair.
But my unit is still leaking. It is not completely fixed and I can’t get it completely done now because I am all out of money. So it’s American Home Shield’s fault and yet they screwed me over. When the guy was fixing the furnace, I even asked about the tube that had some damage to it but he didn’t seem too concerned. Then after everything has been repaired, now it’s leaking all over the floor.
But other than that, everything else was good. The other claim was great. The water heater needed to be replaced and it was 500. After service, it was probably 800. American Home Shield replaced the whole thing and that was taken care of quickly. The technicians for both claims were great. I was just frustrated. I like that with the warranty, you’re pretty much guaranteed that your stuff’s gonna get fixed. In Arizona, it was. But then out here, it’s different. With the furnace, it’s also different because it’s an older unit. So right now, I’m very dissatisfied.

He told me what he was gonna do, what he did, and said everything was fine. But it could be a little frustrating sometimes when I was calling him because this had been an ongoing thing. They started in November. The guy left and then the thermostat went out. And I had to pay a lot of money for the Freon to be replaced again even though it had been done. But I didn't have to pay for anything else. From a value standpoint, it was okay.

All of them were very friendly. But we had to call them back out again because the job wasn’t done when the tech came out the first time. I asked him to go up in the attic then but he said he couldn’t fix the leak out there. The unit leaked right back out a week later.
When I called back that second time, everybody got on it. Everybody worked together and did good. They said, “Yes, we got you. You don’t have to pay anything again. We’ll have them to come back out.” Total Air Care came back out right there. I told them, “Y’all can come today if y’all need to.” But they weren’t able to. They came the next day early that morning and they fixed the unit. Everything is working. I'd recommend American Home Shield. My mom and my sister want to go through them. My sister just bought her house too. I also already sent my cousin over to American home Shield and she's with them.

There was a leak from the refrigerator and there was also an issue with the dishwasher. I filed the claim on a weekend, and the tech came on Thursday. The holiday was in there as well. Everything was great once he came. He had to order a part for the dishwasher. Then I got an email from them that they had ordered the part and that they'd let me know when they’d get there and make an appointment to come back for that. But the issue with the refrigerator was resolved that day. Everything was done timely so I appreciate it.

When I bought the home, AHS came along with the package and I’ve since kept it. It's been good so far. I had a bird issue and there were two representatives from Terminix that came and one was an inspector. He was able to analyze my issue and really give me some good advice on what I can do. They sprayed around the perimeter of the home and they really did a great job. I was able to get the problem fixed. They were professional and very knowledgeable. But I still had to pay out of pocket to get my issue resolved. I would have liked for more to have been covered under having them come out.

We had an issue with our lower AC unit. The pressure of our air wasn't coming out and our thermostat was staying at one temperature. I went online and did a claim with American Home Shield. I've used the website several times and it's the quickest and it's user-friendly. I immediately received an email and a text on when to expect the contractors out. The contracting company was professional when scheduling. They were on time. When the tech showed up, he was honest, and our air worked right away. It is very hot in Bakersfield. So, the fact that they came so quickly and it was fixed within minutes of him doing what he had to do to fix it affected our home positively.

When my refrigerator was no longer producing ice in the door, AHS worked at it with me until I got it completely rectified. The techs who came were always very courteous. The little flaps didn't work any longer and it was clearly acknowledged several times that the door could not be replaced and that it wouldn't be manufactured. They started by replacing the dispensing mechanism until that didn't work any longer either and it was totally not operational. The refrigerator would still make ice, but it wouldn't dispense through the door. But I could reach into the bucket and get ice. I was told that while the refrigerator couldn't be replaced, the parts for the dispensing of water and ice could be replaced. It was quite a while before we gave up on that. I could no longer get at the ice in the bucket because it froze in place. I gave up and made the call to AHS. They solved the issue and I got a replacement for the refrigerator.

Submitting a claim with Home Shield was pretty simple. The hardest thing was sitting on the phone for almost two hours, trying to get in touch with them. The claim was for my main sewer line and On Time Plumbing & Heating came out to clear it up. But all they did was send the snake-through and never really checked everything thoroughly. We later found out that the main line was collapsed. Also, when I told the guy about the bathtub which was on the claim, he just said to get one of those hair things and stick it in the hole.
I kept on trying to get American Home Shield to contact me about it and see if I could get somebody else out here in an emergency status. They didn’t do the work that was needed to be done and I had to hop on them to get them to even say there was a problem. I had to go and use a different plumber who immediately scheduled a day to do it, which was two days later. He came out, excavated, put the new line in, and took the old line out. He also ran the line through the bathtub. Now, everything’s working fine.

American Home Shield (AHS) is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I placed a work order request on May 8th for a refrigerator that only blew out warm air. The service tech arrived on May 14th. The estimated repair cost exceeded the minimum allowed without authorization from AHS. The tech tried calling AHS for authorization to complete the repair that day, but had to leave after being on hold for over an hour. He said he would upload the diagnosis report to AHS later that day to get authorization to complete the repair. I called AHS customer service a few days later and they said they did not get the diagnosis from the service company and would reach out to them and update me.
I didn't hear back from AHS, so I called three more times (May 19,20,21) only to get the same response as the first... They did not receive the diagnosis report from the tech. Both times the AHS representative promised to call me back the same day. In both cases, they did not call. I then contacted the service company on May 22. They said the diagnosis report was sent to AHS, but would send it again. I asked for them to send it me too. I received the report within minutes via email. I've now been on hold with AHS customer service for almost an hour. I will never do business with American Home Shield again!!!! My refrigerator has been out for 2 weeks.

After 7 weeks of waiting they finally agreed that the oven needs to replaced and they replaced it.
Original Review: May 22, 2020
Updated on 06/05/2020: Since there is no option to update your review I'm writing another one about American Home Shield. This is an update to the review I did on May 22nd. I have had AHS for about 4 years now and they are normally okay with their service. But this time my oven stopped working on April 24th, 2020 and I opened a service request with AHS. Technician came on April 28th and reported that it is not repairable and it needs to be replaced. Since no action was taken from AHS side, I called them several times to get an update and every time their answer was that they are waiting for the technician to send the diagnostics report. (Mind you, every time you call the hold time is about an hour and once they answer they will ask you to hold for 2-3 minutes, but that hold is at least another 15 -30 minutes).
I called the technician several times and he said he had submitted the report right after he came off our home. On May 22 (almost a month later), I called AHS (another hour of hold) and called the technician on a 3-way call and have him submit it again. Another week went by with no action and I called back AHS and they said they found someone who can rebuild the broken part of the oven but it's going to take 4-6 weeks or they'll pay me $285 to replace the wall double oven. (The cheapest I can find is $1600.) They will pay only what it takes to rebuild the broken part. (According to their contract, it should a full replacement). I agree to go with the rebuild since we already waited 5 weeks by that time.
Few days later I called them again to find out when they are going to take the part to send it to repair and they said they're waiting for the technician to call us. Today is June 5th and no action has taken to take the part out of the oven. I called the technician and he said he terminated their contract with AHS a week ago because they're also frustrated with dealing with AHS. I called AHS again (another 1.5 hr) to find out if they assigned service company to take the part, but they said they are still waiting for the previous company to do it. According to AHS the previous company hasn't terminated the contract, even though the service company said they did and they won't come to take part apart. So we are waiting indefinitely for their service (6 weeks now, but no action). Absolutely ridiculous service. They are okay with repairs, but when it comes to replacement they make all kinds of excuses. At this point, if I can give a negative star I will do it.
Original: I have had AHS for about 4 years now and they are normally okay with their service. But this time my oven is broke and technician came and reported that it is not repairable. He said he submitted the diagnostics report to AHS and now almost 4 weeks later not resolution from AHS. I have called multiple times and I get the same excuse that they don't have the diagnostics report. But when I talked to the technician he said he submitted it and he has email response that AHS received it. But AHS won't take action to replace the oven. Very frustrating and not very happy with their service this time.

After being a customer for years I had a duct issue. It’s was sweating in the attic and dripping on the ceiling and creating a hole in the Sheetrock. After they came out it was agreed they would replace or fix the duct if we creating access to it due to a shallow roof. We cut the ceiling away 3ft by 35ft and removed all the blown insulation. They then said I’d have to cut all the trusses so they could wrap the duct rather than replace it. I’m a certified builder. That’s illegal. On tv it says they will fix or replace it. So after I cut my ceiling open they never returned. They quit answering my call too. I tried cancel and block their charges but they keep reoccurring. Beware. I’m in a worse place now than when I started.

We’ve had American Home Shield for years in our home that we sold. Then, we bought it for our condominium which we’re in now. It saves you from the disastrous bills that can occur when your air conditioner goes out. It’s kinda like an insurance policy against a large cost item. There was a time when I lived in my home on Hedge Lake and they contracted with a pool supply company that I was not very happy with. Eventually, AHS went to Tropical Pools & Spas and I had real good luck with them. Here at the condo and with this most recent problem on the air conditioning, the contractor did a great job.
The air conditioner stopped blowing cold air and it wouldn’t cool the condominium anymore. We made the call to American Home Shield and the technician who came out was good, knowledgeable and let us know what he was doing. Also, he was cordial. This was during the initial phases of the COVID-19 lockdown, and those guys were very respectful of distance, and did all the things right. It did take three weeks to fix the AC, which is a relatively long period of time, but we were never really put out because the weather was so pretty.

I like American Home Shield a lot. They've been very good to me and have been very accommodating. They did a good job when I called them a couple of other times with another issue. But Miguel, the plumber from Cal Home Construction, was awful. He came in and there was a faulty valve. My handyman had tightened the valve up three times in the past and Miguel said, "I have to tighten it up." I said, "Okay. It's gonna leak and it has been for a long time. It's going to the foundation." But he goes, "No. I cannot change the part." I said, "This is like 60 years old. My handyman already tightened it. He's pretty good." He goes, "No, there is a difference. I'm a licensed contractor. Handymen cannot do a good job as I do." He said to change this if I wanna do this job, but it's gonna take a long time. I'm not gonna do that. He was very unethical
I looked at his truck and saw his child and wife was with him. I'm not sure if they're supposed to bring in them to the job site. Something is gonna take three hours, and having them in the car had a lot to do with his decision-making. And in a few months, weeks, or days, I'm gonna be calling and asking for a repair based on the history I have with that faulty valve. I should let someone know.
Also, when I had a plumber last time with AHS and I had this new issue, I asked for Max, the same old plumber. He's been to my house three times, from a different company. But the problem is, AHS said I cannot request. I said, "He knows us, we know him, he did a great job before, so let's repeat him." But they said, "No. You get a new person. You don't get what you ask for." To me, that did not make any sense at all. It was a rep in the Philippines sitting there and answering the phone. Maybe I should have asked for a supervisor.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week

My microwave stopped working. I went online onto the American Home Shield website and I filled in an application and they sent me an email saying that somebody would come out and have a look at it. Somebody came out, they had a look and they tried to replace a couple of things. They said they couldn't fix it. They would submit a replacement quote to American Home Shield. About a week later, I spoke to some guy on the phone and he gave me options. We chose one and they shipped it out. Then, I had to call the DLS and they came in and installed it and was done in 20 minutes. Everything's great since then. So far, having AHS has been fantastic. We bought an older house that's 16 years old, and our Realtor suggested that we take this because of a lot of the appliances are older. It's been very good.

The AC was one of the first claims I had a few weeks ago. The technician from Consolidated Mechanical, the company assigned by AHS, was friendly. He just came to make sure everything was working right and correct things before the heat starts. He didn’t find any issues and said the unit was working great. But I was a little annoyed because they gave a four-hour window and he was here right at the very end. Other than that, everything went fine.
I’ve had other people since that visit. I’ve had somebody come look at the pool and somebody fix my fan in the bathroom. So far, everything has been good with AHS. I’m still waiting on the pool one that kinda went through. Now that there’s an issue, we’ll see how it gets covered. The light wasn’t working in the pool. It wasn’t getting electricity to the light. I was told the whole line needs to be replaced. The first guy that came out said it was just the lightbulb and I told him that we replaced this lightbulb three times. He just kept arguing with me that it was the lightbulb.
The guy didn’t even take the light out of the pool and didn’t even look at it. I called American Home Shield and I filed a complaint. I said I wanted a second opinion. The second guys that came over took the light out and went through everything. They were here for probably about 45 minutes and determined that the whole line needed to be replaced. But I haven’t heard back from Home Shield since then. That was Saturday.

We’re gonna call the warranty company. I’ll let you know what’s going on.” But I never got a callback from anybody. So, the next day, I called Home Shield and complained. They said, “Oh, yeah. American Home Shield has been absolutely terrible. I had to threaten them several times with my consumer rights to get them to even deal with my situation. I bought my house in August and when I moved in, I had an operable washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, and refrigerator that came with my house. Those are things that, as long as they were functioning at the time the policy was written, my home warranty would cover for any repair or replacement.
After I moved into my house, I noticed that my washing machine would keep running and it would never start agitating. American Home Shield kept sending a guy from Rick's Appliances in Bakersville who was completely incompetent. I kept having to follow up with American Home Shield and the guy kept trying to change things. Those were all on separate occasions with time in between. During that time, I had a baby and was admitted to the hospital and there were holidays. The guy even cut his finger so he wasn't available for two months. I kept calling him and calling Home Shield, and then ultimately, we got to the new year and they tried to tell me it was too late, that I was outside of the timeline for coverage for my claim and that I would have to pay a new $75 fee. The original time that I made the initial complaint had been some time but that was only because they haven't been able to resolve the issue.
Eventually, they had to open a whole new claim for my dishwasher. The door of it was swinging down dangerously. It would flop right down and then the door wouldn't shut on the soap dish. Home Shield sent that same guy from Rick's Appliances and first, the soap dish that he replaced wouldn't open on its own. Then he had to come back and replace the springs on my door and then my dishwasher wouldn't shut anymore after that. So I was not able to use my dishwasher for several months. Then my use of my washing machine and dryer have been spotty sometimes. So it was a big mess.
It was not until Home Shield started sending a new person that it started getting better. They opened a new claim for my dishwasher, didn't charge me the $75 fee and got someone else out there. And that guy fixed the dishwasher on the first visit. Then I had to open a new claim for the washing machine myself and the guy who showed up was from a new company, which I was happy to see. I hadn’t even finished the sentence telling him what the issue was and he already knew what the problem was. And he fixed it. It took him about 10 minutes and he was gone. My washing machine has been working fine ever since.
As a new mom, I just wanted my stuff to work. My baby is seven months now but I just finally got the issue with the washing machine resolved. I was even at the point of going, "You know what? Forget it. I'm just gonna go buy a new washer myself." But then I thought about it. This was what the insurance is for and sure enough, when we got it right and sent a new person, the problem got fixed. It only took 10 minutes of a competent person's time to fix the problem that it took me months of calling and time on the phone to get someone out and provide the benefit that I pay for.
I know my stuff was covered and I was getting the runaround with a brand-new baby and a new job. It was too much to handle. Having to call back and go back through the loop is where the bad service came in from American Home Shield. It was kinda frustrating because they would send me back to a low-level person to whom I'd have to explain the history of my claim all over again. I'd have to tell them to view the call history. Meanwhile, I was spending 30 to 45 minutes on the phone while they were reviewing the history. So I started calling and asking for a supervisor.
The reps wanted to provide good service but they were kinda reading a script. When something is ongoing and they’re having an issue with one of their contractors, it's important for a supervisor to handle that, especially if the customer is following up repeatedly. It was just a headache. Plus when I kept calling and the problem kept not being fixed, Home Shield should've maybe tried to send a new contractor. Instead, they had me dealing with this guy at Rick's Appliances for several months and I kept having to call back. I would never recommend American Home Shield to anybody based off of my experience. I hope American Home Shield will change its policy so that people don't go through what I went through.

It was all done in a timely, professional and courteous way.
Overall, for the years that I’ve been with American Home Shield, it’s been hit and miss. But it hasn’t been American Home Shield that’s been problematic. They’ve always followed through with the request. But sometimes, some of the issues have been with the people that do the work. Sometimes, folks will come out that are less than stellar. My claim got put back into Mr. Appliance and they came out, analyzed it, ordered a part, and fixed it within a week. They were awesome. A lady called me, introduced herself, asked initial questions and then when the tech was coming out, I got texted alerts of his time of arrival and his photo ID. I was very comfortable with that.
I've had two claims in two years. American Home Shield has been very prompt and efficient in managing both those claims. Expectations were laid out upfront and they exceeded those expectations. Arizona Value Appliance Repair was awesome but we had such a problem with the other company that American Home Shield sent. The prior company sent two technicians who had no clue what they were doing. I opened the fridge and the lights were out and so, we thought that a breaker must’ve tripped. There were other appliances running on that exact same line and we went out and flipped them and everything was fine. But the initial problem of my Sub-Zero was that there was no power. It was not turning on. So we went to our home warranty company, American Home Shield. We called and told them about it and they said they would send a technician out. It took them a few days to get somebody out here but this was when COVID was hitting.
The first technician came out on Saturday morning. A gentleman showed up at my door and he had no mask nor gloves. He looked like he rolled out of bed and had a backpack, and he told me he was here to fix my fridge. He came into my home and he obviously did not know how to even get the panel off. His stuff was all over my counter and he said it was my power and that we had something wrong with the electrical. But he didn’t test it and he left. He was here 25 minutes and it took him longer to figure out how to get the panel off. We heard nothing, so my husband called and asked what was going on. We were told that Nana, the contractor, was gonna order a part. A part of some sort was ordered and the gentleman came back before a part. He just came back because he said it was something with the power. He made two visits and then, a part was shipped here.
This is now my third service call and another gentleman came in. He said that he didn’t know where this part exactly goes. The Sub-Zero is plugged in on the top of the back wall and he brought a power strip thing to check if there was any power to this fridge. It was working and we told him that the power was fine. He said it needed a motherboard. We were just going with it so then, the second gentleman came back again and he had no clue. He said we needed to order a different part, which was when we called AHS again and told them not to send this company out again. We were going into five weeks with no fridge and we needed help.
AHS finally sent this company, Arizona and the gentleman came in with face protection. He didn’t have gloves on but he fixed the problem. He said there was no motherboard on this fridge and all it needed was this, this and this connected. He was here not even 30 minutes and fixed my problem. He was professional and obviously trained on the appliances that he was working with and so I have no complaints. We were very grateful and I got my fridge back.
We almost cancelled our American Home Shield coverage because it was ridiculous. They would not help us to send us somebody new when we said this was our third time. And the fourth time, my husband said that we would cancel and not renew because he was not gonna keep doing this. And we’ve been with AHS for 17 years. We were very dissatisfied with this particular claim with the fridge, not pointing at the second company that came out. AHS has been awesome to us and we’ve done air conditioner repairs as well as my fridge before and they’ve always sent worthy companies to work on our appliances. It was this particular time with that first company that they sent out.
It was frustrating that AHS said they were gonna send a different rep after the second time but still kept with that company. Even after a loyal customer had said that something was not right and were telling them that the guys coming out were not trained, which was my concern. This particular claim did not go well but we’ve always had everything fixed promptly. They have always sent out great people and you get a call before the contractors come. They contract with many appliance companies and we’ve never had a problem with the people they sent out before. It was maybe luck of the draw that we got these repairmen this time.

My oven stopped working all of a sudden and I put a claim in for it. So, the contractors are coming next week. We had Texas Best Heating & Air before and they were great.

Our air conditioner was broken and I submitted a claim for it through a phone call. Everything went fine with their rep and then I got the text message confirming that an organization had been assigned to me and that they would contact me within 24 hours. Then, McLafferty contacted me. Their contractor was wonderful. He was very nice and wonderful and he spent a lot of time educating. Everything has been very good since the repair. I was working from home and it was really hot, so it helped a lot. It was a very good experience.

We had our AC repaired back in September. However, when the contractors repaired the AC, they didn't tighten up the screw so it was leaking. A second company called RR HVAC was sent by AHS and they fixed our issue. It sucked that we had to pay for Freon again when a contractor just replaced it less than a year ago. Plus, the people who came out from RR HVAC couldn't guarantee if the issue was a leak or a screw was just loose. AHS and their contractors should look into things properly. Still, RR HVAC was great for us.
Pamela,

My claim with American Home Shield was good and I had no problem submitting a claim. But the tech said he could not get under the sink because of the cabinet. He was not able to resolve the issue for the one in the kitchen sink, but the toilet was fixed. The contractor was good. But I wish American Home Shield can have more ways to fix a problem like the plumbing under the cabinet which is supposed to be part of the issue because the part is under the cabinet.

Sears was sent by American Home Shield to fix an appliance. They came out right away and they looked at it and told me the problem was the oven was emitting too much carbon monoxide. I decided I didn’t want to replace it and the gas company recommended that I not get it fixed. AHS responded quickly and got someone out here because my problem was serious.
I got American Home Shield over a referral from a girlfriend, and when I called in and signed up, they said that they were gonna send both of us gift cards, which we haven’t received. When I called to check on the status of both my claim and the gift card, the young lady told me we needed to go through Refer A Friend, and so I had my friend do that. She put in my email and they sent me an email right away. I was gonna call them to see what was going on.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

We heard about home warranties but we never thought much about it. Then we got our dryer repaired for 300 and some odd dollars. My daughter in law said they have been with Home Shield for years and that they would do anything for 75. They have the plan where they pay a little more monthly and they pay $75 for a call. We got the warranty and we had been very satisfied. We pay 39.95 a month and then $100 a call which is fine.
The contractors have been good. I don't get things done instantly though. Sometimes, they have to go get parts and they can't get it. They had to replace the water heater and they went to pick it up but it wasn't available so they had to reschedule that. They're coming out today to replace it. We also had a contractor who fixed our air conditioning. When they first got it going, it worked okay for a few days. But then, it hasn't been working and it hasn't been used for about three years. It doesn't get cold air and they may have to put some refrigerant gas in there. The air conditioning people are coming out today between 12:00 and 4:00 to fix it and get it doing so it cools down the house.
Homer,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

My ceiling fan was acting up so I went online and filed a claim. Home Shield's website is very easy to navigate. Everything was right there to put the claim in and it was easy peasy. JT's Electrical Services contacted me within a few minutes of me submitting the claim. They let me know when they would be coming through, which was a few days later, and they came as scheduled. They came on time and fixed the problem in about 15-20 minutes. They were very courteous and very polite.
It's been great with AHS. I've had a few jobs done through them and every job has gotten corrected. I had one repeat, which was my refrigerator. But it was two separate issues and both issues got fixed. It's very expedient. I've never had to call back to AHS regarding a contract or anything. I've loved it. I started doing it for another year and I will be taking it to the new home that I'm getting with.

So far, we’ve been pretty happy with what we got from AHS. It took the contractor a couple of days to come out after I filed my claim. They evaluated the refrigerator and did a repair on the washing machine. They did a good job.

The tech that came out for our furnace was very, very respectful. I loved the fact he took time in his truck before he even came out. He came out with a mask, glove, and had boots in his hands to put on because he was on his shoes if he was going to go into the house. Our furnace is down in the cellar, which is an outside access, so it was much easier in that realm. It was a very easy process to take place, specifically under these conditions.
It wasn't an emergency since it's warm out. I waited until they had listed everything in Wisconsin before I made the claim. I realized I would the blower to be working and the thermostat to be working in order to use the AC, which is going right now and it’s working quite nicely. I went online and clicked on whatever buttons I’m supposed to click on to do the claim and then they charged me the 100 bucks. I got an email saying it was gonna happen and that they’ve got the claim, and then I get a phone call from the local tradesmen who was gonna come. It was all scheduled. I’ve only done two claims with American Home Shield, and both times, it went very easily and very well. Both times, everybody worked until it was working. The two guys that have come to my house have been very, very kind. Respect and kindness is important in this job, specifically when you’re doing something through a third-party vendor.
I’ve been very happy with American Home Shield. Living in a 100-year-plus house, it is a huge security blanket. One of the things that tripped me into getting American Home Shield was that I had to replace my hot water heater to the tune of $2,500. But if I had had my account with them, it would have been $100 rather than a very expensive full replacement.

I have been with AHS for three years now and it seemed very hard to get claims resolved last year. I had a stove and a microwave, and the microwave came with the wrong size. It didn't fit. When I had trouble with the ice maker the contractor was terrible and they came out a couple of times. The way that it was handled was a little bit unprofessional. And I had to turn the whole thing off so it would defrost. But the way they explained and handled it made me not want to see them again. There were some other issues that American Home Shield needed to answer so I went to my rep and she took care of everything. For my recent claim with the garbage disposal, however, ASAP was wonderful. The tech was very professional and a very nice young man. The AHS rep was wonderful as well. Because of her I had a couple of friends get American Home Shield.

My dishwasher went out and I didn't know if it was the switch that was controlling it or the dishwasher. The tech fixed it and it only took a few minutes. I've also got service coming out to check my AC system 'cause there's a leak in it. I know there are limitations on major work like AC and furnace but it's better than not having coverage.

First Class came out for my water heater that wasn't working at all. I had PG&E come out first the night before because we could smell gas. I had a receipt from PG&E that said that my gas wouldn't come back on to the water heater. There was something wrong with the starter. The night that I called American Home Shield, they set up a contractor. And then, the contractor called me back the next morning. He came out the same day. He was very good. The only problem I had was I was on the phone forever. It took 40 minutes before they came to the phone. They're always very slow on the phone. Most of the time you have to wait at least 30 minutes to talk to somebody.

It didn’t feel cool in the house so, I looked at the thermostat. I had it set at 74 but it was at 78. So, something was wrong with the AC. I could feel from where the air comes out that it was not cool air. I called in a work order late at night at 11:00 and the contractor came not the next day, but the day after. They said it was a capacitor. It’s a small part that needed to be fixed on the fan. They did that and then, they left. It was quick and the AC started cooling. It’s staying at the 74 that I have it set and we haven’t had any issues since.
Submitting the claim was awesome. I’ve had American Home Shield for a while now so, it’s easy. You call, tell them what’s going on and then, they usually get back with you quickly. I like that with American Home Shield, they would send you and tell you who the vendor’s gonna be. Then, I always call because sometimes, the vendors, depending on who they are, may not contact you right away or take a couple of days to contact you. I don’t wanna wait especially if it’s like the AC unit in San Antonio, Texas because it’s too hot to be here without AC. I usually call the next morning and then, they seem to get the ball rolling a little faster from the vendor’s side.
We’ve been in this house for seven years and we’ve been with AHS all of those years. When you buy a house, you get it automatically from the seller in the first six months. Then, I had it too in the house we lived in in Austin and I kept it. So, probably on and off, we’ve been with them for 12 years. AHS is great and I love being a part of it. It’s a great service to have. If something major happens, it’s not gonna cost you an arm and leg. Although it could. Last year, we had the coil go out on the AC unit and we had to pay for that part of it but if it’s minor stuff, you have peace of mind to a degree on knowing that my 60 bucks a month is gonna go to help protect and insure some peace of mind for me. So, I’ve always used it.

The phone wait times to speak to a human is unacceptable. Spent 35 minutes on hold, hung up, called a different line, spoke to a pleasant lady, she was going to help me. Got put back on hold for another 25 minutes with no results. Went online to my account as per recorded suggestion and was not able to find a way to communicate with service department. I had set up an inspection for my refrigerator and contacted provider and was told by a message on his phone that they were unavailable until June 9th. I am trying to get a different provider assigned with no luck.

As a 20+ member of another Home Warranty company, it took some deep soul searching to find a new one. This new company is what I've chosen to be my Home Warranty company. It features a ton of benefits vs. the old company & covers ALL MAJOR APPLIANCE with a $1300 ceiling. And it does all the shopping as well. No more waiting for a replacement check! What's better than that? It has a higher deductible but you can adjust it to your own comfort level.

I've tried to use my warranty twice and both times the problem was never fixed and every time they tried to make me pay the $75 fee again to get someone else out. I asked them to send a new company to come out and fix my A/C unit after they sent a company whose profile says they install microwaves and only made my A/C unit worse, they said they could only do it if I paid the $75 fee again. I WILL NEVER BUY A WARRANTY FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN!
