Overall, American Home Shield gets the ball rolling in the right direction. My issue however is with what their contracting company does with my claim after that. One time, I had an issue with our showers and we had a plumbing company come out. Two techs replaced the Mixet shower faucets I have and they left knowing that those were unadjustable in terms of temperature. They were very difficult to turn. I asked how we could fix the situation and the techs said that the only thing that could be done is change our valve. To do that, they would have to break through my walls and they would not be responsible for repairing my walls after they did that. They told me that it would cost $500 for each of the showers.

I told them that I would keep their quote in mind and got some more quotes from other plumbers. I found that the prices were going up from their quote so I called AHS one more time. I told them that I wanna have my issue fixed but they should assign me a different plumbing company. They did that and the next guys who came out got my issues fixed. The plumber who came told me that I had some corrosion and that they would get it out. They did that and now my shower handles are perfect. I’m very happy with I’ve got now, and American Home Shield was the company that made sure that I had a second opinion company come out. However, I was unhappy with the first plumber company who came because I didn't feel like they gave two rips about my problem with the shower handles.

More recently, I had several different service calls for my pool heater that was never working. The previous owner of my home never used the heater and the gentleman who came for my first repair appointment said that there was so much old stuff at my place. He got new parts from his truck and put them in. However, he still couldn't get my heater to operate. I then put in another request and the same tech came out again. This time, he was operating with his phone and trying to get my heater to work. He had a grump attitude and told me that we hoped we would fix it that time. He still couldn't do it. He told me that he didn't know what the problem was. He said that he already changed a lot of wiring and put it some new parts. So, the heater should be working but it was not. He left and I put in a third request to AHS.

A different gentleman came out and he told me that it looked like my heater was set for a timer. He asked me if there was one and I told him I haven't really explored too much and that there was a single switch to turn on the pool system. He unhooked two wires and my heater started up perfectly. That told me that the previous tech was on the phone with him the whole time during the previous repair as he was the pool heater guru.

That week, we had some friends over and we were enjoying the pool and the heater. All of a sudden the whole system shut off. I jumped out and turned off the heater because I knew it could overheat if it didn't have time to cool down while there was circulation. The motor causing circulation had just stopped. I put in a request through American Home Shield again for my pump and they told me that it was a different issue and that they would have to charge me the $75 deductible again. I asked that they not do that until their tech determines that the problem is not part of the same system.

I called Golden West Pool which was the company coming out to fix my issue. I called before they opened so I left a message saying that if anybody from their company knows how to look for a certain switch or fuse for my model of pool pump, maybe that person could call me and talk me through the fix. I told them that maybe I could save them the trip. When the guy whom I hired separately to maintain my pool came out, he found a breaker that was completely separate from the rest of the breakers at our house. He said my breaker tripped and showed me that my pool pump was already running.

I called the pool place again and told them that I had an appointment set for the pump but then the pump was not the problem. I told them that my heater was still not working and asked if I could keep my appointment. The rep there said that my appointment is still open even though I cancelled for the motor issue. I then called American Home Shield and told them that I've set up an appointment with the contractor for my heater which was not working again. I called the pool place again to double check that my appointment was set. The rep said I was all set.

I took the day off on the day of the appointment and nobody showed up. By late afternoon, I called Golden West and asked them was was going on. They told me that they cancelled my service appointment because the technician got a message saying that if he wanted to call me and talk me through my issue, it would be okay. I told the rep that message was left before they opened and it was for my pool motor. I told the rep that I still had an appointment set up for the heater. I also said that they didn't have the right to cancel my order and not tell me.

I explained that I still had a pool heater that was not working and that they were responsible for my issue. The rep told me that the soonest they could get a tech out would be a week later. I waited another week and their tech came out. It turned out that the first guy who did the wires put a wire in a place where if I close a little access panel, it would pinch the wire off. That wire slowly deteriorated over a couple of weeks until the heater stopped working. The tech who came fixed all the wires and put everything in a safe place. He showed me exactly what to do if I have a problem with my heater igniting.

Now, my heater works well but it took several attempts to get it done. It was like pulling teeth. I also had an issue with the contractor deciding to cancel my appointment and not tell me at all. If the tech took the message I left seriously, then he would have called me and tried to talk me through the fix. But then, he didn't even do that. They dropped the ball big time.

The first time I ever had to do a claim was for my AC that wasn't cooling. It was easy, but we were originally sent a company that did not service the kind of unit we had, even though when we filled out the form, we said what was wrong. When filing the claim, I had a 30-minute wait time, which I understand. With the times the way that they are, that's kinda par for the course. I got disconnected and I wasn't able to get anybody. I had to call back again and wound up waiting for an hour. Once I was able to get on the phone with somebody, she helped me through everything. The contractor added Freon. I'd like to see some kind of chat option on the website. It would be a decent thing to have because calling takes so long. I was also kept being told to go online to submit a claim, but when I submitted a claim, it kept sending the wrong company out. I didn't have a choice but to call.

I usually call my claims in and it has been pretty good. I haven’t even noticed that the calls were that long. When you talk about being long, I think about Medicare and all those others and they were nothing like that. When my air conditioner quit working, we had the century mark heat that weekend so we were really suffering. We had ceiling fans, but it was hard. The tech from South Placer came out and knew exactly what happened and everything, and he fixed the AC. He put another part in to help. He went up in the attic, fixed all of that. He was very good and very thorough. Home Shield has been really good.

Twilight Electric was awesome. They came out to fix the garage door that I had called about previously. They had to come back because it still wasn't working, but they're excellent. Calling American Home Shield was a nightmare, though. The rep kept telling me she was gonna charge me again and I said it wasn't fixed the first time. I hope they didn't charge me the second time. I couldn't get anybody to listen to me and I have to sit and wait online for hold forever and ever. I can't even recommend them now until I call them again the second time, which I'm going to. I have something else wrong at another property that I have them on.

The water heater kept tripping the breaker and it was burning the plastic, so there was something inside that was causing it to trip everything. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield on the computer and it went well. I’m not very good with computers but I didn’t have any problems. I put the request in on a Friday so I knew to expect the contractors at least by Monday. It was Tuesday when we heard something so, it was quick.

The first time the rep came out, he looked at it and inspected it. He told us it would have to be replaced. American Home Shield let us know it would be a little extra than the regular $75 because of the reconnections and all they had to make. We were forewarned about the cost so, everything went well. The rep was very professional. He came in and replaced everything. We were five days without hot water, so it has been great. Everything has been functioning very well since then. Last year, we had a stove replaced and the contractor came in and took care of what he had to do. Then, another guy came and hooked everything up. So, we’ve been very satisfied with everything. I would recommend American Home Shield very highly.

I have a manufactured home and the air ducts in it don’t blow correctly into the back of my house. It blows cold on one side of my house, but not on the other. All the contractor did was walk around and check the coldness coming out of my vents, but he never went down and checked my ducts to see why I was not getting enough pressure of air in the back of my house. He just told me that everything was fine so, I’m having a different company come out. He also said that AHS had this new program where you can get a new air conditioning service put in for $5,000 to upgrade. He said that I should go ahead and do that. He told me that if the pass-through that goes from one side of my house to the other wasn't working properly, then it was not covered under AHS. I don’t understand why that wouldn’t be covered. It’s ducting under my house. Other than that, I'd refer friends and family to AHS.

A week ago, the cooler was working just fine. My daughter and I went out shopping and came back home. It was hot in the house but we had just come in, so I thought we have to cool off. I heard the cooler turn on but I didn't feel any cool air coming out of it. I went to the thermostat and turned it down to see if maybe something happened. It wasn't doing anything. I shut it off because I thought I don't want the motor to go bad if it was not working. I turned it back on just to see if that was what it needed to be. It was turned off and on.

When I called American Home Shield, they said sometimes the breaker might be off. It was a recording. But I checked that because we did have the lights go out a couple of days before that although the cooler came on just fine. I looked anyway and it was on. I then flipped it off and turned it back on. I came in the house and turn the cooler back to see if it worked but it didn't. I just kept it off. I called American Home Shield and got an appointment with Ambient Air.

I had service with American Home Shield about 4 years ago then I canceled it because I lost my job and couldn't pay the monthly payment. I'm on unemployment but I thought, "I'm just gonna get it again because I kept getting emails about it." We got it and because it was a 10% off for the year, it was cheaper than what it was before. I thought I can do that. I got it in April then in May, my air went out all of a sudden and I was so glad I got the home warranty. American Home Shield is great. I was really happy with them before although I didn't use it a lot when I had it four years ago. I've used it twice and once was on my air conditioner. It needed some Freon. When I had them before, they were really good. This time, they are really good as well. I had great service with Andy and his son. Also, Troy has been very professional. He got the job done and it was great. He was very professional.

In Control came to check a stoppage in my plumbing. When I filed the claim, I was placed on hold for a long period of time. When I called the first time I was on the phone on hold for 45 minutes just about. But I will say that once I did speak to someone, they took care of it. The person was difficult for me to understand, however, she did get it taken care of and she set it up.

I've only been a customer of AHS within the last four months but I would definitely redo it when my time is up because I was really impressed with the person that came over. He was very professional, was very efficient and he was extremely knowledgeable. Then I tried to call again because I wanted to get a receipt for my records. I was placed on hold again, for a long period of time then, I was disconnected. And prior to that, I asked the lady to please give me a call back just in case I was disconnected. She did not call me back, and I had to call again and was placed on hold for another 35 minutes. I know some companies are doing it where you can leave your number and they'll call you back. That would be more acceptable, so you can't just sit there placed on hold. And if you ask someone to give you a call back if you get disconnected, they should know to give a personal call back.

I've had American Home Shield for years and they're great at doing the little plumbing jobs but every time it seems to be something expensive, they seem to find a way to wiggle it. We had a refrigerator claim that we went round and round with them and we finally got a check and bought a new refrigerator ourselves. Also, Home Shield assigns people they want to work on claims and when done automatically, they just pop up whoever the contractor is. I called back to get try to get it changed one time but once it was assigned by the computer, they can't change the contractor. What they ought to do is give a list of contractors and let the customer choose who they want.

I had a heater claim and Cabot Mechanical came out. American Home Shield had to order the parts to get them to fix it because they wouldn't replace it. Cabot fixed the heater and that's fine and dandy. I've had some not-so-skilled, professional-type people come but Cabot Mechanical did a great job so I waited on the phone to request them for an AC claim. But the lady I talked to didn't seem to understand that this is a different problem and that this isn't a comeback. I would have thought the person I talked to would understand the system a little better.

They called and let me know exactly about what time they would be arriving. The person that came out was very knowledgeable. He told me what the problem probably was, and that if I would see any further damage, to give them a callback. If I did experience anything, they would come back out and within 60 days, I would not have to pay anything else. I would like the monthly cost to be a little lower but other than that, I would recommend AHS.

The fan wasn’t working on the air conditioning unit. I submitted the claim on Monday and no one came out until Friday. The guy from Home Service Corporation got the air conditioner back on where it was working, but then once my temperature gauge was set to whatever the temperature of the house was, it wouldn’t shut off. Now they still have to come back out, but they can’t come back until June 8th, which is like, “Are you serious?” If the guy would've just stayed a few more minutes to make sure everything was working properly, I wouldn't have to make a second call for them to come back out. The air conditioner is supposed to be almost 90 degrees. I had to turn it off and then on to even make sure that it would work, although I just wished that I didn't have to go through this again.

My number one issue with AHS is that why does it have to take three or four days for someone to come out? I honestly think that’s way too long. Secondly, the people that they always send are in a really big hurry to hurry up and get the job done and leave. I kinda feel rushed whenever I’m dealing with them. What’s the point in me paying the money to AHS when I can just call somebody else and have them come out and take care of it? It may cost me more money.

If only AHS can get that piece together, make it seem like the technicians care a little bit more, or have a checklist that they go through to make sure that everything is working properly like it’s supposed to be, or wait a little bit longer to see. Their salespeople or their representatives take the time to talk to customers and hang around a bit to make sure everything is working fine. But I’ve never had any problems with any of the technicians that have come out that helped service whatever issues that we’ve had.

When the contractor got here, he wasn’t able to repair everything on the first day. He just came in to see what was going on. AHS called and told me what was going on. After that, Priscilla called and set everything up for the following week. It was raining the day when the contractors came and I just thought that they were was not coming. When they were on their way, she called to let me know. Two people that came that day and they worked so hard. They made sure everything was up and running before they left. I was very satisfied. The plumber from McDade Mechanical was fantastic, but American Home Shield did not pay a dime on it. They said that because the main pipe that goes under the house to clean out came outside the foundation, they would not cover it. But, the pipe went under the house first and then came outside for easy access. I'm a little discouraged with it, but if that is the only time I'm out for a while, then I am okay with it.

I have also had AHS sent somebody out before because I had the same issue, and all the guy did was tell me that I have had too much grease and toilet paper. The last plumber told me that the main flush line was rotted and cracking. And so, dirt and mud were seeping down in it. The piping that the guy then had to fix costed me -- I ended up having to pay out $1,700 and I also had to pay out $100 to get a plumber out there. So, I'm beginning to wonder what does this home warranty cover. It was like American Home Shield did not work with McDade, and they did not work with me. Right now, I do not know if I want to go with someone else because that was my main one, and I'm not happy about it. If something breaks and AHS won't fix it, and the problem is within the foundation, then I'm going to be mad.

The air conditioner was running for a long time and it wasn't cooling the house. I went online and submitted a claim to AHS. I was comfortable with the website of AHS. It was friendly. The company that came out did a good job explaining. But this company had come out before and they couldn't figure out the problem. I came out of pocket too much because this was the third time somebody from air conditioning had to come out and work on my unit. They couldn't figure out what the problem was and then it was left to me to pay the Freon that they had to put in there 'cause American Home Shield only paid us up to $10 and they said, "In your contract, it stipulates that we only pay up to $10."

It was funny because, at one time, the contractors had to take the unit from inside the house, to supposedly fix it. I was out for two days without any air. Then they came back, and within two months, the same problem. When the contractors came out this time, they were saying I still have a leak. I thought they went and took it and fixed the leak. But what they did was pacify me and filled it up with Freon, and then the Freon was slowly, but surely, leaking. So they replaced the whole unit. In a way, I'm happy that I have AHS because had I not had it, it was gonna cost me over $1,000 to replace that unit.

American Home Shield is more expensive than other home warranties but they're okay. I called in when my broiler and oven stopped working, and customer service was pretty good. A week after making the claim, someone came out and they were great. They got my broiler and oven fixed. They had to order parts so I was without a stove or an oven for about a week and a half. They then came back and installed the parts.

There was a backup in the sink, bathroom and shower and submitting the claim to American Home Shield was easy to do. You can either phone it in or go online. We’ve had AHS for six years and sometimes, it’s not the top-quality people that are coming out. They’ve had to come out multiple times to correct the same issue and/or replace with another company in order to get it replaced. This time, the issue came back and they had to come back. AHS needs to make sure that the people that they hire are grade A contractors and gets the job done the first time. Also, it’s a little harder to do anything on the phone, especially if you have multiple problems at the same time. You have to do a different claim for every problem. If your garage door doesn’t work and your plumbing, you have to speak to or get two different contractors.

For the longest time that I've been with American Home Shield, the reps have been very nice. American Home Shield has been great. In the past, I wasn't too happy but I stuck with them because I knew that if something was broken, they would be there to take care of it. This year, I would say kudos to them. I really appreciate them. I probably would even recommend them because if something breaks, you're out, what, $1,000? You don't know how much it's going to be. Besides, not everybody is gonna be perfect. That's just running a business. You're gonna have the good in with the bad.

It's difficult to submit a claim. You’re waiting for someone to get on the line and you're hearing the same music over. But I talked to a lady last week and she said I was going to get the $75 that they took out reversed because it was still the same claim that they came out for. Then the ladies, from when I called and made the appointment, and the people who came out to the house from All Comfort Specialist, were very nice. They explained to me what they were going to do and what the issue was. They replaced the battery for the air pressure. I had to go get my son and I told them I would be back, and they were just fine. They were polite. I didn’t get to them but I called them the next day and thanked them for leaving a message.

This is the worst company ever. From the beginning, we received janky contractors with terrible reviews, and have had to request for another contractor to come out instead (we were charged once for a contractor that never showed up). Recently, I submitted a request to have my dryer fixed. We had two cancellations due to Covid-19 and the contractors not wanting to move our dryer and didn't want to bring another a team member with them. Fine, but how many requests do we have to submit to have someone come out? Instead, we hired our own contractor (who came out and moved it just fine by himself). We have since purchased a new dryer for $700 from Home Depot.

There's no need to have this warranty if we're paying out of pocket. I called to cancel our contract and was on hold for 35 minutes and the call mysteriously dropped. I called back and was on hold for 25 more minutes - the phone hung up again. I'm currently on hold and it's been 40 minutes. ALL I WANT TO DO IS CANCEL MY ACCOUNT. There's no place on the site to submit a cancellation request, which is unacceptable and you're forced to speak with the awful customer service agents in order to cancel. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. RUN AND HIDE YOUR WALLET!

I then looked on my bank statement and I saw that AHS deducted $123.82 from my bank account, without my knowledge or permission, not to mention that the amount was WRONG! 1.5 hours on hold on the phone. Told them they breached the contract that I agreed to, that they never gave it to me in writing and that I wanted them to credit the error and I would pay $30.82 per month as agreed upon.

Rep found that I was correct about the $30.82 and the $123.82 was an error but they could not credit it back once it was taken out!! Argued, put on hold, then he said they would credit the $92.xx but that I could no pay it online as agreed, I had to have auto deduction. Not what we agreed to and said I just wanted to cancel the whole thing; too many errors, did not trust them. When he transferred me to dept to cancel I WAS CUT OFF. NOW ON HOLD ANOTHER 1 HOUR++. A customer service representative was able to resolve the issue on June 3rd. Service with a new contractor was scheduled and they were able to repair the AC unit.

    Original Review: June 1, 2020

It is simple to place a service request on the site. However you have to follow up on the status of a service via the phone. There are multiple occassions where I contacted American Home Shield and ended up waiting on the phone for over 30 minutes in order to speak with an agent. I also placed a request in February 2020 for a HVAC upgrade conversion and did not get a status update on it until I had to call in a service repair for my AC unit in May 2020.

In summer 2019 I had to place multiple AC unit service repairs (one in June, two in July) because a contractor would come out, attempt to repair the unit, and then it would still not be fixed. Then, a second contractor would come out (a different company), say that the previous contractor did a poor job and did not repair the unit correctly, and then attempt to repair the unit. This happened more than once with each contractor blaming the prior contractor for not repairing the unit correctly (for example, one of them secured a piece with zip ties and another left coolant leaking). It is exhausting dealing with this company and their contractors. I am currently waiting to get in contact with AHS now (20 minutes and counting on hold) because my 1pm service repair was a no show and the contractor is not responding to calls. I will be happy once our warranty expires and we can move on.

We have switched from American Home Shield (AHS) as of this May. We had them for four years, and the last year they began denying things on criteria that was clearly stated as covered in the contract. It's a really predatory company who takes their reasonably low monthly payments, and then they make out in the long term by denying claims if you don't fastidiously read your contract. Read your contract and be sure to call them on any fraudulent activity with regard to their coverage of your home appliances. Or, just avoid them entirely and go with another company.

Put in service request for AC repair on 05/22/2020 for rental property I Own, got a call from contractor, said he can not go until Tuesday, convinced the tenant to wait and rented them swamp cooler for the weekend, Tuesday morning got call the the contractor, who was so rude and before he even get to the property said it will take 10 days, Arizona has a law requires landlord to repair AC within 48 hours, called the AHS wait after wait, calls go to center in Philippines who has no clue about US laws and state laws, spoke to so many employees and and explained to them how urgent the matter is, having kids and Sr. citizen but no one cares, asked to speak to supervisor. No one provided, same lies every time, contractor did not return the report.

Ended up calling the contractor myself on Wednesday, and I was shocked, he informed AHS from Tuesday that it will take 10 days, his excuse was parts, I was under 2 options, repair it myself or face legal issues, called AC tech I know, same day he went up and fix it, guess what? Parts were available in local stores, this is summary the frustration with AHS is unbelievable. On same day called AHS and told them I am going to repair it and requested cash out because I can not wait for another week with 110 F temperature, the 2nd round of lies started, waiting for estimate, called Friday and still no answer and they keep saying, "Oh, the contractor is going out on Monday to repair it, Monday comes, early morning gets call from the contractor he is heading to the property to repair it, even though i informed them from Wednesday that I fixed it and requested cash out option, one lie after another.

The only department in the US is sales and they are the easiest to get hold of, other departments oversees people has no clue about US laws and regulations. All they doing is lying to you, and they are really good at it, AHS pays them to lie and BS you. At the time writing this review I am on the phone for 2nd time today trying to speak to someone who can help and no luck, every call has to wait 45 min. and no one calls back if calls gets disconnected. Bottom line save yourself the headache and buy your warranty from other place, this company is by far the worst I ever dealt with, and by the way this was my first order with them, I don't know what to say. Our dishwasher was leaking and we initially put in a request. We had Mid Maryland come out. They were supposed to run diagnostics to see what was wrong. The gentleman was here to look at three appliances, our refrigerator, our dishwasher, and our microwave. He said that the microwave’s not an issue because it would just make noise. It’s a builder issue, which I’ve never heard of that before. He didn’t even look at it. Then with the refrigerator, he put a magnet up to the door. He was pulling things and then he said that it looked like it doesn’t have Freon. With the dishwasher, he took out a pod, put it in, and said it was suds. He told us that we have to use a different brand of soap. On the inside of the actual machine, there’s a big label and it shows it’s a Cascade product so we should be using Cascade. He said that we should use Finish. I told him that we have Finish. Then he said that we have the wrong one.

I asked him if we clear off all the bubbles if he could run and see what’s going on with it. He said that it would take a while. He has to go to the machine and let it go on a cycle. He proceeded to put more and more cooking oil in our dishwasher and kept running it. I told him that I’d run cycles of water just to get all the soap out. He said that it would not be easy. I told him to wait and see if it’s gonna continue to leak. I also asked him if he wanted to check and see if it’s the gasket or the rubber seals. He said that he's been doing this for 30 plus years and that it’s not gonna leak.

He said that he would call AHS and let them know that it’s the suds. Then I noticed on my email that American Home Shield closed that ticket out. I called back immediately and asked why they would close that out. The tech didn't even do anything with it. AHS said that if they would send out a second opinion, they would charge me another $75. I told them that the first opinion was never done. The person on the phone understood and she was very calm. This one time she would not charge a second fee and send someone else out.

This other gentleman from Ample Home came in. He asked if the first tech looked at our gasket and rubber hosing and I said no. He barely leaned down and told me there were screws loosed there, he could tell that there’s a leak because of that. He spent 30 minutes looking at the machine, actually diagnosing it and pulling things. Then he said that the gasket and hose needed to be replaced. He would place the order for those pieces and then he’d be in contact soon.

So far, I've had a couple of claims and AHS has been doing quite well. Submitting claims is quite easy. I go online to put it in and AHS has all the right prompts that come up. They changed their policy and made some things different. Now, I can pay my deductible up front.

Also, AHS's response time is a lot quicker than it was before. For my claim, Climate Express Came out to address an AC issue of mine. The tech diagnosed the problem right away and fixed it. But then, I had a different issue come up as I have two different units. He came out again and took care of the subsequent problem. I picked up the phone and called American Home Shield for this claim and the rep was courteous. But I could go online too. I’m a computer geek so the website is easy but it might be more difficult for somebody else. The contractor called as soon as they were assigned. They first came in February to replace an actuator on the washer and then, they came back in March to look at it again. The technician said it needed a control panel, so they got one for it. It was still doing the same stuff so Kevin, the original guy who came out, did a diagnostic on the washer again and realized it was the motor going out, so they replaced that. They came out some time in May to finish it up and I’m happy with them. I love those guys. I always request AA Dependable Appliance when they come out to service stuff because they are so professional and I always promote American Home Shield because they're dependable.

When we had a pipe burst, American Home Shield sent out a wonderful service provider that fixed it, but I’m still waiting on someone to come in, redo my wall and put the concrete back outside over the pipes. The service provider had to rectify the issue of the square that’s cut out at the wall and they told me it usually takes three days to ensure that it’s not leaking on these pipes. So, I’m waiting now to have an appointment set up. Still, this is my first time making a claim, so I appreciate the speedy response on the matter and sending out a professional to work on the issue and resolve the situation.

The fan was blowing, but the AC wasn't cooling. The actual fan outside was not spinning. We put in the claim on the 25th. Originally, it sounded like the vendor would be contacting me but nobody ever contacted me. So, I ended up calling them. They told me they had about 30 claims over the weekend so they'd get to me when my order has been received. Then they told me they weren't gonna be able to come out 'till Thursday. I assumed it was gonna be the 28th. When I called them and asked when was it gonna happen, they said the gentleman that does the scheduling called them back and said they've got us in for the 28th. Come to find out, when they originally told me Thursday, it ended up next Thursday.

Scheduling is a big issue. The only suggestion I have is if it's going to be a prolonged wait for getting something like air fixed, then give us the option. Is there another contractor that was available or could be available? Luckily, they got it done last week and once the contractor came out, and he was great. I got bumped up because I was that squeaky wheel. But if I wouldn't have said something, I would've been waiting 10 days. So, if that was our only option in this area for a contractor for air conditioning, that's a little concerning that if they would have had more customers in line or they would've not bumped us up, then we would have been waiting out there for 10 days.

The issue that I've seen with a lot of warranty companies like AHS is that they are very limited with the contractors that they use. I know how big the market is up here. If you take in consideration Minneapolis into the equation, it's a large market. Generally, down in Texas, they only have 2 contractors that does air conditioning. It may be different up here. But if you're limiting the number of contractors you use, then you're limiting the number of customers you can service. If this is the case here, I'd like to know what is communication like going from the contractor back to the warranty company to tell them, "Hey, we can't get to this customer until Thursday. You may have to get another company come out." They may not wanna get another business, but I think that would be the right thing to do for the customer.

I had a claim a month ago and it wasn't so good. It was assigned to several contractors and it was two weeks before anything was fixed. AHS gave me what they wanted, a repair. What I finally ended up paying for out-of-pocket, the contractor assigned was gonna charge me double. I called the first contractor and they could make a repair but they couldn't make a replacement, which didn't make sense. They also broke some of the equipment that they said they didn't break. It was bad all around. I had to go with a non-AHS contractor to get it fixed. The tech also told me I need to get rid of the home warranty. But recently, our air conditioner wasn't working and it needed to be fixed quickly. I put in a request online and it was very easy. The tech was very nice. It's fixed now and everything has been fine.

It's convenient and quick with AHS. My microwave was shutting off if I use it for anything more than one minute because it was overheating. The fan was broken on the internal. I submitted the claim through the American Home Shield website. It was easy to find. I was given an email to notify me that the contractor would contact me. The guy from AH Appliances Repair was friendly and quick with his work. He kept in touch with me. He had to order a part so he told me he would come back another day when the part arrives. He contacted me when that happened and everything was really streamlined.

If I have one complain, the microwave was reassembled and part of it broke so there was a large zip tie holding up the vent. When the AHS plan was purchased, I was told that it was a replacement plan. When my microwave broke, I thought we were gonna have it replaced since it’s so old. I guess I didn't read through the documents about the repair process. But I would recommend them to a friend.

I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I feel like sometimes they send out the lower quality of people to come and do the repairs. But Cain Home Repair was very good. The guy that they send out all the time is good. He explained stuff to me, but I'm just having trouble with my garage door. I don't know if I need to replace it but it doesn't take him long to repair stuff. I haven't had any trouble with him or the contractors. They came out to do my refrigerator once about two years ago. And then, the garage door man was very friendly.

The last time that I called Home Shield for a repair, it was May the 24th because everybody was out for Memorial Day weekend. One of the representatives I spoke with told me that I was within a grace period to do a recall. I didn't call that Monday because I knew it was a holiday. I called back there Tuesday, and they told me that since it was 31 days in March, I'm a day late for the recall. I don't think that's fair. The representatives need to get their stuff together. At one point, I was thinking about dropping American Home Shield, and I still might and go to another company.

We went from Sunday through Thursday and it was getting rather warm downstairs. But the experience from a professional standpoint with American Home Shield and the person that came out were very nice and professional. I was pleased, but I was embarrassed.

What happened was my daughter-in-law had turned it off by mistake and I went down and checked it, and I didn’t even notice that the power had been turned off. But the Airmax was very nice. Home Shield is convenient and I've recommended them to a few people. After I didn't have a man in the house, stuff started breaking down and after I had replaced the boiler, someone asked if I didn't have Home Shield. I didn't know anything about it and I asked them what it was. They said that it was the best thing and it has come there. It has been three years since because it has been since my divorce and the warranty has served its purpose.

Unfortunately, this time, my washer and my dryer started acting up on the same day. I tried to wash and it wasn't washing the clothes, and then the dryer wasn't drying, so it was just throwing out cold air. I thought, Home Shield isn't going believe me when I tell them and I was even embarrassed to call. I thought, "Oh, my God, they are going think that I'm doing this" but I wasn't. Anyway, I made a service request then they had MMAB Appliance come out for the dryer and it went great. The guy was able to fix the unit that day and it has been working good so far. Meanwhile, someone is going today for the washer.

We had a terrible connection and we couldn’t communicate well so I wasn’t able to get good information going in.

Second, they only paid for $500 for a $7,500 air conditioner. It doesn’t pay me to continue the contract. It’s kinda silly. If they’re only gonna replace a percentage of something, I don’t see how that helps me. I’m paying enough in premiums that I could put money aside for any next repairs. But I’m gonna look around, think about it, and I’m gonna investigate although I don’t know how to talk to American Home Shield ‘cause I had a problem communicating with them in the beginning. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t worth the money.

AHS had somebody come out once before about our air conditioner and replaced a compressor, and they’ve had somebody come out again. They sent CityLine out this time and we agreed that we just needed a newer technology unit, and the coils needed to be replaced because they’re not holding Freon. I did the claim online and it was a very fast process. The CityLine folks called us two days later and got the appointment together. It was easy and pretty much the same as normal. But this time, we cannot reach AHS. We had been on hold as long as two hours trying to reach them, just leaving the phone on speaker. Unfortunately, it caused us a little bit of delay because we needed to get information from them to make some decisions with the company.

That’s been a bit frustrating and we also felt this time as though we didn’t quite understand the pricing. It was difficult for us to understand what it was AHS was covering as part of the pricing that we got from CityLine. When they sent it to us they said it was minus what AHS was gonna be covering. So, it wasn’t clear to us because the market value, just getting other bids for the work, seemed to be what they were charging us. The wait time that caused delay has a domino effect because the vendor is saying that they can’t provide information and we have to get it from AHS. So that’s been a problem. This might be related to COVID and their workload at the moment.

I had a faucet in the basement that was just running. It started out as a drip and then it got worse until it was running in a steady stream, and that’s why I decided I needed help. I called it in and that went fine. However, the contractors is where I’m kind of shaky. I’ve never heard of either one of these people that Home Shield sent out. I’ve never heard of Marathon Plumbing and Stout Heating and Cooling. And my experience last year was really questionable because somehow, my bill got confused with somebody else’s bill, and they were calling me for a payment of $250 for Freon but no Freon was required. I don’t know exactly what the guy did, but he had to make an adjustment on something. And he put in this filter that was supposed to fit my furnace, but it didn’t. It was a substandard filter.

I don’t go down to my basement often because I had hip surgery, and so, I’m not to go up and down those steps, right? So, I went down to do laundry and saw that the filter was crammed in. I checked to see if it was the right size. The filter said 16x25, but it was much larger. When I went down there, it was like I’m going to cram my size 22 body in a size 16 dress. It just doesn’t work. And then, I’ve got this phone call about this $250 and I said, “What?” “Well, blah, blah, blah,” he went on. And I said, “No. Are you sure you’re talking about…” I gave him my name, address, the invoice number and the technician’s name. And I was reading off of the invoice that was left. It said nothing about any Freon. The only thing it said was that the coil needed to be cleaned, but that was it.

I hope he dropped the issue because I never heard anything else. And I was reluctant to call for this plumbing thing. I said, “Well, this is gonna get worse. So, I better go ahead and call.” I called and crossed my fingers. And then, when the guy from Marathon came out, he said he had to order the replacement faucet because that one, of course I’m guessing, had been stripped. But anyway, I thought, “Oh, boy. Here we go.” But he came back and installed it and everything was fine. I was thinking about cancelling, and I said, “Well, maybe I just better give this a try and see what happens,” because that could’ve just been a bad incident with that one company. But I was wondering how they picked these contractors that they send out.

Since the plumber was coming out, I called Home Shield to see if the plumber could address another issue that I have with plumbing, and they said that I couldn’t. So, I have to make another $100 charge to get a plumber to come back out. And I thought, “Okay. That’s interesting.” Nobody said that they would be able to, it was always in a gray area as to whether or not this could be done, and I thought that was strange. But I understand certain – I don’t know how to put it. I work for an insurance company for a long time. But to say that, “No. You’re gonna have to make another claim,” to me, that’s like saying, “Well, we want another $100 from you,” and that bothered me because I don’t have $100 to dish out every other week.

I signed up with Home Shield was because I’m a senior citizen. I bought these appliances and I’m hoping that they will last until I die. But of course, I know that’s not going to happen. I’m trying to take care of them because my warranties have ran out so I bought the Home Shield as protection. But that doesn’t mean that every month, I can shell out $100. So, I’m trying to figure out what I’m gonna do and how I’m gonna do. That’s where I am.

I just talked to him a little and he was just out of the Navy so he knew what he was doing. The issue was actually that I thought my dryer wasn’t heating and had to be fixed. But he showed me that the dryer vent was clogged even though it didn’t look clogged. He showed me a trick with the thing you pull out every time. The connection from there to outside was all goofy and that was causing a problem too. But he said they don’t fix that. He told me to do it and I was like, “Yeah, right.” But it works perfectly now.

I also had him come out for the refrigerator, which is a total mess. Right now, the refrigerator itself reads 50 so we don't have any food. We’re eating out. But it’s certainly not their fault. He ordered a ton of parts and it’s been a week now so we’re anxiously waiting for the parts to come in. My husband submitted a claim on AHS's website requesting for them to come out to look at a couple of our faucets that we were having problems with. He went through a fairly easy process. However, using their site is a little difficult sometimes because it doesn't give us the option to say what our problem actually is. Instead, the site would say "other" then give us an option to type in what that "other is". They sent F6 Plumbing out to service our claim and the tech was great. So far, we've not had a problem with anybody who has come out to fix our problems.

We just moved in last October so I wanted to get the units checked out. It didn't feel like it was cooling evenly upstairs. I went to the AHS website and entered in what was going on. I got a text confirmation 'cause I turned the claim in at night. The rep also called to set up the next day. It was efficient and I didn't have any trouble. I had a different company at my last house. If I had an AC issue and it was gonna be on the weekend, it was just too bad for me. But A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out on Saturday. It was fast and easy.

My washing machine was backing up into my sink, my back potty, which is on the north end of the house. And then on the south end of the house, the potty got clogged up. It wouldn’t work one night. We got it unplugged. Then we have an adjoining bathroom and there was water. When water was running in one sink, it would fill up the other sink. So, something was wrong with the whole house. The guy from Waters Edge came and he went up on the roof and did that thing by the kitchen sink. He snaked it out. We talked to him again and then they came and snaked up the one that was close to the bathrooms, and now everything is working. They came really fast and they came the second time really fast as well, and they did a good job. The guy was really nice, and he worked really hard at it but he got it done. It was kinda difficult. The one in the kitchen was kinda difficult. It took him a pretty good amount of time. I’m really happy with them.

We also had to have an oven replaced through American Home Shield because they couldn’t get the part to fix it. I made contact with a representative. They said, “Well, we’ll send you the information,” but they didn’t. We have yet another appliance that had the same scenario. It took forever to get ahold of a representative about that, and he said, “We will send information about replacing,” and we never got that too. I’ve gotta get on the phone and redo that today. That was two days ago, and I still don’t have that. So, the replacements are not very smoothly done. Most of the guys that came out and worked are pretty good but the last time, we had a claim with Waters Edge, and it was a nightmare. But it was just the kitchen sink faucet.

AHS sent Zach from Ski Electronics and he did an exceptional job. I had three different items and he worked between the three items. He knows his work. I was with American Home Shield for many, many years and I left them and went with Sears, and then I came back to them. They're prompt with the service calls. I like the idea that I don’t have to wait a very long time to get somebody on the phone and to get a response back from the company that is gonna be coming out. The customer service is good.

I already recommend them to a friend and several family members. Now, my family members have them and are new to the warranty. I got a phone call from a family member and they had a new issue. But I have not had any bad experience with AHS at all. I don’t know if it’s the location because they stay in New Brunswick, New Jersey. I found out that they paid a little bit more for the pricing because of the location. But as far as I’m concerned I’m good with them. I told my sister about AHS here in Delaware a long time ago, and she got them, and she kept them. She had to have her washing machine replaced and she did. They couldn’t fix it and they replaced the washing machine.

I had two properties that had both the furnaces and water heaters go out. The tech from Everyday Heating and Cooling did a great job. He was very informative and good people person. He wanted me to clean the coils as it would be a maintenance problem potentially. Once I cleaned them, I should give him a call within the next 30 days and he’d come out and reassess the situation. Unfortunately, I didn't clean until after that. I made the other claim, and the came out to look it up. Then he took the plates off of my furnace and it was not put in there well.

When he came and looked at it, he took everything that was from the side that was all dented and didn't fit right. He used his own personal screws to screw it back in. He even cut an aluminum film so he can actually make sure that it fits better. He went above and beyond doing that. Then he put some refrigerant and leak protector in there because I thought that I had a leak. He said that he didn't see one, but he still went the extra mile to put it in there just in case he missed it. He did an amazing job and I couldn't ask for more.

Most companies that come in, they say, “It is what it is." They walk away and just leave me high and dry. But the guy was educating me about the services, educating me about what I should look for, what I should do beforehand before I even have to call him or the warranty company. “These are the things that you can do to protect yourself. And make sure that you all file these things before you have to.” So, yeah. I mean, yeah.

AHS service has been consistent. It’s just that the people they contract with are not. I have one company that every time they come to my house, nothing ever gets done and I always have to do a second opinion. Every time I do the second opinion, the new contractor would find something. She didn't do their due diligence in actually digging to the issue. They just look at it on the cover and then they leave. But it all depends on who the people got.

When I initially set up the claim, I wanted the repair work done on the water heater which I keep referring to as the boiler. I set it up as the boiler on the electrical which is a steam heat one. I didn't know there was another option below for water heater. When the technician came, I told him there was a problem with the water heater but that wasn’t his job to do. He thought it was under electrical so he fixed the AC drainage which wasn't something I mentioned. That was why I reopened the claim. But when I went back to the AHS site and looked, I created another claim which then went to a plumber and they fixed it. I was hoping on my repeated calls with AHS that this could have been figured out. I paid $100 for the same request but because of what I did, I had to pay twice to 2 different technicians.

AHS could improve on customer service. It takes forever to get them. The first 2 times I spoke to somebody, it took an hour. The second time was nearly 2 hours. I just hung up. That is a big problem. The website is only good for requesting a claim and that's it, nothing else. It gives you no chat, no follow-up emails, no option, nothing. That whole customer service experience is pathetic. If they don't want somebody to man the phone, at least have somebody exchanging emails. The person who comes on the call is not knowledgeable on the appliances. If somebody was, then they would have told me that I chose the wrong option in the first place. But so far, the contractors have been good. I have no complaints.

When you flush the toilet, you could still hear it and then water was still flowing in it. I called it in to American Home Shield and the rep was excellent. She said that they would contact me but I got a text message that the contractor was gonna call me to schedule. They didn’t call me within two days. I had to call AHS again and they sent another request to Mr. Rooter. The rep came in and did the work. He knew exactly what he said it was. Then, he worked under the sink on the garbage disposal and it had to be replaced because it was leaking and spilling out water everywhere.

A few days later, I kept hearing this drip. The restroom wasn’t even being used but all of a sudden, it would try to fill up the tank again. I asked my daughter to confirm it and she said that the other toilet was doing the same thing. So, I contacted Mr. Rooter first and asked them if it was supposed to make that noise. The lady said no and told me to call American Home Shield again. So, I did and they sent someone in.

The guy said that some parts in there were not replaced. The flaps were worn down, which was why it was turning back on to fill up the tank, and that was where the drip sound was coming from. Since they came out, there's no more filling of the water. My daughter did complain that you have to hold the handle all the way down and wait for it to actually flush, and we never had that before. But after I called in, the contractor came right away. Both times, they were very courteous, explained what was happening and were in and out of the house very quickly.

I enjoy that I have AHS. It has made a big difference because I never knew that things like this were gonna happen. So, having that as a backup has helped, especially right now when they were not working. It's the best thing. I added the appliance protection as well. So, that comes in handy. Instead of having to pay a repairman coming in, you just pay your $100 deductible. It's a reasonable rate per month.

Our microwave was shorting like it would generate a surge. It would sound like just being struck by lightning every so often. It didn't happen regularly though but I was concerned that that could potentially be a fire issue. Then the second thing was the door. When I open it, it falls down. I called AHS and told them. I went online and placed the order.

Based on the email, I should be receiving a call within 24 hours and I did. The tech stated that if I was home, he would come by within the next 15 minutes. He was very professional and dealing with him was awesome. He also repaired the stove. The button for the right front burner would not turn and so the screws had come out of that. He was able to take the button off and put the screws back in. Then the burner started working again and everything has been working fine except for the microwave. The door is still an issue and it can't be repaired. They're gonna have to replace the microwave.

The repair has made it easier now because we're now able to use our burner for the stove and now able to not worry about a potential shortage in our microwave and a fire. AHS has been very convenient because we have not had to go out and search for an electrician or plumber. They've always been able to send out really good people. They were very punctual and I didn't have to wait until two or three days later to get the issue taken care of.

But we've been having trouble with the toilet that they replaced for years not flushing properly. It had leaked because it was not draining properly. So, the floor had to repaired. We took care of that but American Home Shield never did rectify the problem with the toilet, so we continued having trouble with it. Then, Wilbourn & McCabe came out, put a new toilet in, and everything is working wonderfully right now. So, we're very happy with the results.

The program from American Home Shield is great in itself. Over the years, I had been to other places and I ended up with a big bill. But if I use American Home Shield, even though it's so much per month, it's still better off because I can save in the long-run. I can get things fixed right away without having to wait for money to come in and do that.

There was a leak underneath the sink. I had trouble the last time logging into the computer system to file the claim. The phone system kept giving me the runaround. It took me about seven attempts before it would go through the whole system on it. Once I got in, it was fine and everything else went fine. I kept getting plugged out of the system on that day. The rings and stuff like that had broken away and the plumber had to replace some parts on it. He got it fixed up pretty good and he was in and out in about half an hour.

I've been pretty lucky that all the people that American Home Shield has sent out have been good. But sometimes, it's harder to talk to explain what's going on where it's not a blanket issue. It's something that may be multiple issues or you may have to tell them a little bit more information so when the people come out, they're a little bit better prepared. So it would be a little bit nicer if I could reach out and talk to somebody once in a while.

Optimo Air and Heat was excellent. The tech diagnosed and fixed the problem immediately. He was in and out and did a great job. He was very professional, and I was impressed. However, I don’t think Home Shield always knows what’s actually covered. I don’t know how many times I’ve wasted a $75 service call to find out something wasn’t covered. So, I’m taking my chances in even calling Home Shield sometimes, as opposed to going and finding somebody and having it done.

I had a plumbing issue in the last few months with my washer, and it was something I needed fixed immediately. It was leaking in the wall. The contractor said they didn’t have time to open up. I’d had to open up the wall, cut out a little piece so they can get into it and they didn’t have time to do any welding to fix the issue. The contractor couldn’t fix the issue that day when he finally came out so that was frustrating. I won’t use them again. I went down the street, called a contractor friend, and he sent over one of his guys to fix the problem. He had it fixed in 30 minutes. It was depressing that I paid the $75 again, and Home Shield didn’t cover certain things again.

He said it would be between 8:00 and 12:00 and he came between that time frame. Once the guy in, the hot water was back on within a couple of hours. Everything went good. American Home Shield has saved me a whole lot of money. So it's very important to have a home warranty.

Filing a claim has been very easy to do. There was one time that I did online and I have my account set up on my computer. The website was good. However, when I click on the in progress item, I can’t reply on that and ask what’s the status. I have to call and there’s a wait time of 15 to 30 minutes before somebody will answer. Another drawback with this type of deal is waiting on the repair and not being able to use the item, and then sometimes the part can take a while. I’ve got a claim about the dryer. Two of the three parts came in. We’re waiting on the third one ‘cause it’s backordered and they gave us a date of June 10th. I'm gonna call to see what happens if the part is not here by then or what are we gonna do differently.

For the last 30 days, my wife noticed that the eyes of the stovetop were not heating up. It was very inconsistent. I looked up on the warranty that that was covered. I called American Home Shield and they were very helpful. They said that I’d be getting a call within the next 24 hours. The GE guy that did the stovetop was very professional. He did the social distancing and had a mask on. He worked very diligently and patiently, but he couldn't fix it. The part was out of date on the stove so they were kind enough to let us order one. We’re waiting to hear when that’s gonna be ready to be installed.

After doing a claim for it online, American Home Shield had Best Choice Heating & Air assigned to my service request. The repair happened the second day though because we needed to see what was gonna happen. The tech had to put in an authorization then he came back yesterday. Everything was finished up and so far, so good. The tech I had before this last one that came out wasn’t all that. But this guy and the last company were both were pretty good.

I’m pretty happy with American Home Shield. The warranty is doing exactly what we had intended it to do and I’ve renewed for another year. When we had a malfunction with our upstairs air conditioning unit, we suffered for a few days so we put in a call. It was a Wednesday and the tech from R & K Heating and Cooling was out the second day. He came out to really diagnose the problem and was able to run it out to the outside portion of the unit where he found a burned out wire and a few other odds and ends. He replaced those pieces and everything is running tip-top again.

When it was taking numerous cycles for my dryer to dry my clothes instead of a cycle, I did a request through a representative and the contractors that came out were great. The dryer has been working fine since as well. On the same day I did the dryer request, I did an HVAC request and they told me that because it's the special, it had to be requested to a person. I wanted to do the air condition check-up for the HVAC for this preseason and I had to go to a main person. They were very friendly, but the whole time was crazy.

They said that they couldn’t assign somebody, that it would be sent to some department, and then they would inform me of who would be my contractor. I was given a provider through an email to say that I have a provider, but I still have not heard from the HVAC company as to scheduling an appointment. I don’t want to call American Home Shield though. I'd rather see if I can find the name of the company that they assigned the case to.

In regards to the customer service that the representatives provide, it was great, but they need to do something about the wait time. Each time I've called the company, thus far, has been at least 30 minutes on line waiting and it's not acceptable. That’s something they need to improve upon. I get that we're going through issues, but people are still calling and needing service. I put the call on speaker and what I was able to do in that timeframe was insane. That’s a lot of valuable time that’s being wasted. I could imagine the frustration of people who don’t have cellphones or older clients sitting on a call that long. They could watch a whole show if they wanted to.

Still, I have an older home, so it concerns me. If my house wasn’t as old as it is, I wouldn't keep it. Things are breaking down, and it's expensive. It’s cheaper to afford the insurance of this than coming out with thousands of dollars upfront. One time, I did a request online and it was quick and easy. It went great too. Before they came, I tried to get it to work without air and I did what I could. The tech ended up blowing the rest of what was stopping it out. Submitting a claim to AHS has been pretty easy when the website works. I've had a couple of times where I try to submit and it won't go through. But with the last two times that I used it, I haven't had an issue.

We're pretty happy with the process. Their contractors were super professional and friendly, except for the stove people. I was at work that day when the contractor came but my wife was home. She said they were slow to schedule appointments, they were rude when they got here, and they didn't have the parts they needed very quick. The claim never got finished. We ended up throwing the stove out and getting a new one. So there are some great ones and then a couple of bad contractors out there, but you're gonna have that with all of them.

We got American Home Shield because when we bought the house, we had a one year that was already paid for but we haven't used them at that time. And so, when it came time to renew, we did and then, all of our stuff hit the fan and then it just went downhill. I recently filed a claim online and I definitely found that to be easier because the last few times I’ve had an issue and had to call somebody, it was a nightmare. It was almost like they weren’t understanding what I was saying and then that they ended up telling me, “Just go to the website and make an appointment.” We've been with AHS for almost three years and for the most part, we’ve been pretty unhappy.

We’ve had a lot of plumbing issues since we moved in. And we’ve had their people come out four times and every single time, they’ve either given us the runaround or they can’t do what we need them to do or they don’t even really look at it. They just say, “Everything’s fine,” when our toilet was not flushing and then our house flooded. Everything was not fine. And so then, we ended up not going through them and just hiring a different plumber to come out.

And we had to end up getting a brand-new pipe because our pipe was completely backed-up and collapsed because it was that cardboard pipe and they told us it was cast iron. It was not cast iron. They didn’t even look at our pipes. So, for most of our plumbing needs, I don’t even go through them anymore. I go through the people that came out and fixed our whole sewer pipe.

The only reason that I used AHS recently for the air conditioner was because we were in the process of selling our house and our buyers asked for us to service our AC. I happened to get an email saying, “It’s time to service your AC. Would you like to set up an appointment?” So we tried it. Nothing is broken. It works fine.

The technician was great. He was professional and fast. He let my kid watch while he was in the middle of everything. He gave my kid high-five and very sweet. There was some build-up in the unit and if we see the same piece that we have in our house, we can just put bleach or vinegar in it to help it so it doesn’t get the way it is now.

The guy from Appliance Repair Time came out and he looked at the unit. He then realized he didn't have the part that he thought he was going to need, so he had to leave and when he came back, the repair took him 30 minutes at most. All in all, he was professional and he was good. He fixed it and that's all that mattered. He was the second one that had come out for this appliance. The first one wasn't capable of fixing it, so American Home Shield had to send somebody else, which was not a big deal.

He did the drilling through the wall but that still didn't work. Then he had to go get this friend in the truck to come out and help him do one side of the tub while he did the wall. He did some more drilling to get the part out. It was a piece that was under the tub. He got the job done and I was happy because I had somebody do it before and they couldn't get it out. But it took me a while on the line with American Home Shield and so I'd rather call the plumber. I had to stay on hold for a while before I got a representative to talk to. That was the main thing. He told me he couldn't put a snake down my sink because I didn't have some kind of the clean-out on there. But another guy named Joe from Advanced Home Services came and he was very polite. He put the snake down there and he fixed my sink which was driving me crazy because it happened to break over the holidays.

It was a Saturday and on Sunday, they couldn't do anything then. Monday was the holiday and I was caught with a stopped up sink until Tuesday. When Advanced Home Services came, Joe had something wrong with one of his equipment. He went back and got another one. He then came back and fixed my sink. I would highly advise others to always use those people because they were wonderful. My plan will be renewed in August. I was thinking about going with some other warranty company because that first contractor was disagreeable. He walked in and told me a lie. But I'm very pleased with Advanced Home Services and I would keep them all the time.

For old broads like me, just any little thing aggravates me because I don't feel good in the first place, so I'm very appreciative. Hope I am not too incorrect. We have had AHS for almost 25 years and used them infrequently, usually with great satisfaction. However, my last experience from summer of 2019 has me worried. Our Samsung refrigerator died. They sent one company right away. The technician, polite and professional, looked at the appliance and said “we don’t do Samsung. We have to call their technicians”. Instead, they handed the work back to AHS.

The next company assigned, Chesapeake Appliance Repair showed up and politely informed us the same. They did not hand the work back to AHS. Instead, they never called again and we managed to connect with them in only one of about 15 calls over a month or more. The one time we talked they said they were in Samsung’s queue. We waited. We called AHS service desks many times. Always polite, they had no success in contacting the company. Asking to speak to a manager resulted in the manager always busy, never calling back.

At last, I called a number I saved when we had to replace a washer. So after more than two months, I managed to get action, They paid us for a replacement.

Now, my AC is malfunctioning. They just assigned a company and the company has promptly contacted me. I looked for reviews on YELP. They had several 5 star and several one star reviews. Invariably the one star reviews were when the work was assigned by AHS. So, now I’m waiting for them to show up this week and hope for the best. But it seems AHS has not lately been vetting well enough. I’m giving their service request desk one star. But their replacement department deserves 5 stars. Average is 3 stars.

American Home Shield is failing to fulfill my contract with them to repair/replace my damaged washing machine. After my washing machine failed I contact American Home Shield (AHS) to open a claim. A contractor was assigned and approximately a week later said contractor came to my home and confirmed the washer could not be repaired and a replacement would be recommended. After 72 hours I'd heard nothing from AHS (and had now been without a washing machine for almost 10 days). I called AHS and spent an hour on hold before reaching a rep. The rep told me the contractor had never submitted a detailed diagnosis for the washer. I asked that she call them to inquire what was going on and she did.

After being on hold for another 15 minutes I was advised by the AHS rep that she spoke with the contractor and that they were "working on it". I asked what the hold up was in submitting the paperwork and she was unable to advise and confirmed she actually didn't ask that. I asked to speak to a supervisor and after being placed on hold for approximately 30 more minutes I was disconnected with no call back. I called back again and waited on hold for over an hour again, the new rep told me the contractor did send the diagnosis but was recommending a repair not replacement. I explained this was contradictory to what the previous rep said. The new rep called the contractor again and this time told me the contractor had tried to look for the part (the first I'd heard of this) but couldn't locate it so AHS has to try to find the part.

I asked why the story keeps changing, rep was unable to explain why. Asked how long it would take for the part search and he said up to two weeks. I explained that is absurd, got put on hold, got told 48 hours and was promised I'd be called back advising one way or the other if the part was found. Asked for my records who the rep spoke with and he said "Ty" from the contractor's dispatch and apparently he was the one that had said the washer could be repaired instead of replaced. Waited 48 hours and got no call back, called the contractor myself, spoke to Ty, he said none of the above conversations with him ever happened and that they'd said to AHS from day one the washer couldn't be repaired and sent paperwork within 48 hours of the visit to my house. He stated they'd send it to AHS again.

I called AHS after not getting a call back and requested a supervisor, while waiting the initial rep told me she looked at the case and no diagnosis had been sent from the contractor, I explained that can't be possible given what I'd been told about the search for the part, etc. etc. Asked for a supervisor and while waiting she came back and changed the story again that it had been sent but they needed to find parts. Waited for the supervisor, he couldn't explain what happened but said he'd investigate and get back to me but never did. Reached out to the contractor again and confirmed they'd sent the paperwork a second time which they had. Reached back out to the AHS supervisor who gave me his email but he either wouldn't get back to me or would give me vague responses that they were investigating.

Eventually he said they still didn't get the paperwork and I asked why they don't just call the contractor but got no response. Called the contractor back again and spoke to the GM for field operations, he confirmed they always had said replacement, sent paperwork to AHS within 48 hours of the appointment, sent it a second time after I called subsequently and didn't know what else they could do. Emailed supervisor at AHS again with all this info and received no reply. I've spent thousands of dollars in premiums for AHS and just want them to honor my contract. I never insisted they replace my washer, I just need a working washer, whether it's fixed or replaced didn't matter. I've now spent over 8 hours on the phone over multiple days with no resolution, and I've had no washing machine for weeks and AHS is refusing to even truly investigate what is happening.

All I've wanted is for AHS to fulfill my policy, if their contractor who they picked for my case says it can't be repaired, and that contractor is insisting they've sent all the necessary paperwork to AHS and AHS hasn't received it, why am I the one trying to fix that problem, I'm just the customer, AHS needs to figure out where the breakdown is and finish my claim. At this point I've had no choice but to go ahead and buy a new washer on my own because I can't go any longer without one. I have a child and he needs to be able to wear clean clothes. I've now filed complaints against AHS with the Better Business Bureau, NJ Department of Consumer Affairs. NJ Department of Banking and Insurance, NJ Department of Consumer Fraud, and the FTC.

I have an issue with my stove. A couple of my burners were jumping off on high. My oven would work but sometimes it would come on very quickly, and sometimes it would just take the longest to get up to temperature. Submitting the claims with AHS was very easy. I went online, put in a request and someone responded in four hours. So I had an appointment putting it the same day. The contractors came out the next day. And then they came back the next day and completed the job. I had looked at the reviews of the contractor and I was wanting to get someone else, but it was pointed out to me that the reviews were old. So I took a chance and they did okay -- they got the job done.

Submitting claims on the phone is an easy way to do it. That way, you can wait, if you need to, and talk to somebody in person rather than dealing with it on the internet. The last contractor who came was helpful. He inspected it and confirmed that it was working. He even took time to ask me if there were any other concerns that I might have in the house and inspected even my wiring and plumbing downstairs.

I wasn’t getting a lot of hot water. It was barely tepid. I have a hot water heater from the outside and it was locked. When the guy from Water & Drain Works came, I unlocked and opened it, and we realized it was set on vacation mode. I’ve never even opened that the whole time I live here. I didn’t know that was a possibility. The guy took a picture of it and showed that it was set to vacation mode and changed it to hot. After he left, it worked. When I bought the house, we never got it changed over to be turned on. He said that it would heat the water a little bit on vacation mode, so that was why I got some hot water, but it ran out really quickly and it never got really hot.

When I submitted the claim, the process was easy. I just went on to American Home Shield and put in my request for a service, and the contractor came the next day. He said he’d be here between noon and 1:00. He pulled up at exactly noon and was gone by 12:05. He was fast and efficient. He was polite and very professional. He didn’t tell me I was dumb. I felt like I was dumb but now that I know where to look, I would be better. Overall, I've enjoyed having American Home Shield. They get right back to you. I have not had to wait days, and I haven’t had to pay extra.

Westside was very kind to work me in on a Friday when they were very busy because otherwise, I would have gone without air conditioning all weekend. I needed Freon, so the technician added Freon, and everything was going great. I got up Saturday morning and thought I’d check the unit. I went outside, and the entire Freon line was iced over. So, I turned off the unit and let that defrost, and it took several hours, and then I was able to turn the air conditioner back on again. That was what I did all weekend long.

We had already made an appointment on Friday for them to come back on Tuesday because Monday was Memorial Day and a holiday. But unfortunately, on Tuesday, my phone had frozen, so I had turned it off. They called to say they were coming, and the technician came and knocked on my door, but because I’m in a different room with doors closed, I didn’t hear. I missed them but that was okay because I did call them back on Tuesday when I realized my cellphone was off, and they came out Wednesday after that.

What that technician discovered was that when they add Freon, it’s like adding air to a tire. There’s like a valve thing that’s got a pin in the middle of it, and it had gotten stuck. So, it was leaking Freon. He fixed that and added more Freon, topped it off, and everything has been fine since then. It was a bit of an adventure and a challenge, but I’m so grateful to them that on Friday, they did come out before a holiday weekend and worked me in. I’m 63 and diabetic with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and I was just concerned about my health living three days without air conditioning. But it worked out really well.

I had American Home Shield for years and then I dropped them. I just reinstated them about a year ago. I live in an older house and as a single woman, I can’t repair things myself. So, I realized I really needed to get American Home Shield again. I would recommend them to people but I would make the time to investigate other home warranty companies and see if they offer a better deal than American Home Shield. I’ve seen television advertisements about other companies, and they mentioned repairing computers. American Home Shield doesn’t cover that.

My best friend and her stepmother are both real estate agents. They both highly recommended AHS. Since my best friend’s mother-in-law is highly seasoned and sells multi-million and billion-dollar properties on the west side of the Florida coast, the fact that she recommended AHS is the most driving point. Plus, there are so many items that are being covered that I felt like it was wise. Even though it’s kinda pricey, it’s a good insurance. As soon as I renewed it, the AC thing came up.

I hired an AC company, which was very well-established in our area. They do the bi-annual maintenance on our AC and I trust them. They did a very lengthy diagnostic on one of our AC systems. It took them about four hours to figure out that the issue was something in the handler. They said it would cost about $2,200 to fix. I told them I was not gonna pay for that when I have a home warranty.

Eric came out the following day and had the benefit of having a diagnostic just laid out before him. He zoomed in on that straight away. It was confirmed because he also got the codes. There was an error code reading on our thermostat and he looked that up. I could tell that he was very seasoned and it was something very quick for him to say, “Yup, this is it. I need to order the parts and as soon as I get it, I will call you to set up an appointment.” The part didn’t come in until late Friday and by then, it was too late. Eric couldn't come until Monday. Thankfully we have our other AC unit which was able to cool off our side of the house evenly. Overall, he was good, helpful, professional, and friendly, but no-nonsense. He answered a couple of my questions and wasn’t curt or abrasive. I’ve had AHS since we bought the house on April 29th of last year and decided to renew. I've had good service so far.

Proven Professional Construction Service came out a few times. They were nice people. I first called in the claim for my kitchen faucet and my toilet, and the gentleman told me, “If there's anything else you need to add, call us back before they come out.” I called back because my younger son said the toilet in the front foyer was difficult to flush. I called back and I added that, and then shortly thereafter, I added a claim for exterior hose bibb because it was just spitting water everywhere.

Proven Professional came out and did the diagnosis of the one in the kitchen. They diagnosed the toilet and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. So, then they came back out later. I ordered a faucet through Moen because it was under warranty, and they sent me a new faucet. They came out, installed the new faucet, and I got them to look at the toilet again, and they shorten the chain on the toilet. But they wouldn’t look at the hose bibb. They said it wasn’t on my order and the other toilet wasn’t on my order, but it was supposed to be.

I ended up calling back, got ahold to a supervisor that re-setup the claim again, and that way, added the hose bibb and the other toilet on the order. They came back out and repaired the hose bibb. I haven’t checked it because it's been raining so much and it finally stopped and I've been so busy, but they repaired the outside hose bibb.

They did do a little more work on my faucet because when they installed the inside faucet it was dripping. I had contacted Moen because that’s who provided me with the faucet, and they had sent me another brand-new one. Proven Professional came back out. because I had called them immediately after they left and said it was leaking, they came back out and they fixed it, added the little pieces that Moen had sent. They fixed everything they were supposed to.

I’m not as excited as I would have loved to be because of the faucet. They told me this is normal, but I don’t understand how it can be. When you pull down on the faucet, the sprayer itself doesn’t go back up into the faucet like it should.. The people from Moen said it’s where the weight is placed. I’ve learned to cope with it because I just don’t mess with it anymore.

My concern was more with the people that I dealt in AHS because I had called on specific times the gentleman seemed to have forgotten what they needed to fix. I'm trying to get that bill corrected because you can see on the paperwork that he had put it in for it to be part of the original one. For some reason, they tried to charge me.

I got an email that said I needed to pay another $80.06 for a trip fee. I’ve already paid what they told me I was supposed to pay. I have an electrician coming out today. I’m beginning to wonder if a lot of this could be happening because of all this raining we’ve had. There should be better communication. I had to call multiple times to get things done on my hose bib. If I was going to refer AHS, I would say they don’t communicate as quickly as I would like. I think, it is a failure especially when you have a plumbing or electrical problem.

That way, you can give those technicians a heads up. It would be nice to be able to immediately give me a drop down if I’ve had previous contractors. Those people have been there before, and they know you and you know them. The work gets done. They had me with a previous provider for many years and one time, they moved me to a different one. I called it in and I asked to be switched, and they had no problem with that. Recently, the motor of the bathroom fan went bad and the contractor, American Team, put in a new motor. They had it on their truck and it was all done within an hour. I’ve had them before and they were very good.

They're an all right company. I was trying to put two orders in so I could save on deductible. But the guy said the refrigerator is a separate claim from the air conditioner in the house. I had to wait for him to get the order in and he said he had to go. I got upset about that. AHS outsources and it's hard to talk to a foreigner. And because of what's going on, everybody is working from home. But I know they're trying to do their best.

I had to calm down and let him tell me exactly what was going on. He explained me the policy. I asked why I had to spend $200. I said I can spend $100. He told me it's because they're different technicians. I told him that both Air Doctor and Honest Appliance are for air conditioners. But he said the one coming out for the air conditioner is for air duct and the one coming out for the refrigerator is for the appliance and he doesn't do aircon. I said okay and we got it done. They sent out Air Doctor and the tech was excellent. I'm waiting on the part for that though. Honest Appliance also came out for the refrigerator and they did an excellent job.

I had an issue with my air conditioner. A contractor came out and I told them that it was a high-velocity air conditioning unit. Once the tech found that out, he said he couldn't work on that. It is a high-velocity system which is a little bit different from a typical split air system. He would have to call somebody else from their company and that I was supposed to get another call. This happened to have been a holiday weekend and I got the call on Tuesday. But I didn't realize that the first tech was going to have to get a different company completely.

The company was Advanced Air and their tech came out. It was no fuss, no muss, and he did the job. He was probably just a little bit smarter because he told me that if it was something that he had to go up into the attic area for and work on the unit itself, he probably would not be able to do it. But he checked to see what the problem was. It was something that he could do from outside. He found that problem, took care of it, and was done. That was kind of smart on his part to at least spend the five minutes to see if the problem was something that he could do from outside. He was very good. Everything's working. So far so good.

If you are expecting some kind of a big problem or a big bill that could happen, American Home Shield kind of gives you a little bit of feeling that you can turn to somebody and some things are covered. There is also the convenience of it. I have a claim, they send out somebody and I don’t have to chase somebody around myself.

But on the other hand like on the air conditioning part, I'm not completely happy with what I'm paying because this is the first time I've had a claim with American Home Shield. I didn't realize and I maybe didn't look at all the fine print because there's quite a bit, but they're only covering $10 per pound of the coolant. That might not sound all that bad until you realize that the actual coolant is $50 a pound. If it ranged from $11 to $20, that wouldn't be so bad. But when you find out that the cost is $50 and they're covering $10, it's not so good. It's only 20% of the cost.

I paid $100 for a visit that basically annuls the cost that I would pay them for the visit, which he told me it would probably be about $120. I only saved $10 from that. Essentially, it saved me a little bit of money, but not a whole hell of a lot. I'm still assessing that at the moment whether I want to just self-underwrite everything and not worry about it.

I had American Home Shield years ago when I owned my other house. I came back on board with them about 2 years ago. Everyone has been very nice and accommodating. The only difficulty that I had was getting through because of being on hold for 2 hours at one point. That happened more than once before the ordeal was done but I survived it. That’s the way it is no matter where you call these days, so I’m not complaining against American Home Shield specifically. I do recognize that all of this being on hold was unexpectedly, unnecessarily long, and it’s all due to everybody being trapped. Everybody’s using the phones for everything these days.

My dryer wouldn’t dry, and my washer wouldn’t empty. American Home Shield sent out Always There Appliance and the tech was very knowledgeable and polite. He arrived right on time and explained everything to me. He was able to fix the dryer but he was unable to fix the washer. He made me a nice list of everything that needed to be done and said that it would be turned back over to American Home Shield, and they would determine whether or not they were going to pay for the parts or replace the equipment. It was left there for a couple of days and I didn’t hear back. I kept trying to call and could not get through on the phone. Ultimately, I contacted the Always There people and asked if the tech had turned in the paperwork. They assured me that he had.

Every time I tried to call American Home Shield, it would refer me back to the online issue. I went online and there was absolutely nothing pending for me. I was really shook up, and I tried to make it happen. In the process, I inadvertently started a new claim. Instantly, I was terrified because it automatically wanted another $125 from me, which it never did actually take.

Finally, I was able to get through and spoke to a really nice lady. She was so helpful and explained virtually everything to me, and indicated that I did, in fact, need to replace the washer. American Home Shield would reimburse me X number of dollars. I went to Lowe’s, which was the closest place to me that carried what I wanted. I have ordered both a new washer and a new dryer. I am now waiting for reimbursement for that and delivery of my new washer and dryer, which won’t happen till next week. I hope everything hurries up and goes along smoothly.

I also had a claim for the dishwasher before and it went pretty good as well. All notifications, service and follow-up have been pretty good.

My filter was leaking. I had a valve that was broken as well as a valve that was broken on the filter. ABNation came out and took care of it. I’ve had American Home Shield for 14 years and they’re easy to deal with. But they won’t replace things until they’re broken and dead, which is almost too late at that point. Instead of having an emergency, they did more preventative stuff.

The air conditioner wasn’t cooling. And we had the same issue the prior year with the same unit, and so we had somebody come out last year. And he ran a dye test and put some stop-leak stuff in it, which I didn't agree with because I think if there's a leak, you need to fix it. But he did what he did and he said that’s what my coverage got me. It stayed cool until it got hot again.

As soon as we had an 85-degree day, the temperature started going up, and so I called again. The tech came out. He saw the notes that the guy left on the AC unit and then said that it was the connections to the capacitor. I replaced my own capacitors before in my house in Atlanta and I know how to do it. Typically, when the capacitor goes out, the unit stops running but my unit was running. The tech reconnected the wire then. He said, “Your refrigerant was just a little bit low, not much, but nothing to worry about.” And he said that fixed the problem. He was a super nice guy, seemed to know what he was talking about, but I don’t really know if we fixed the problem. The AC is functioning fine.

When we bought the house, the warranty came with it. We had an issue right away and we couldn't get anybody to respond for our heater in the wintertime. We just got passed around. I was on hold for two and a half hours and I was super frustrated. I ended up talking to a supervisor with American Home Shield who promised the world but never called me back. And the number that he gave me to reach him on was disconnected.

It was a weird experience, so I called my Realtor and I told her what was going on, that the warranty isn't really gonna do anything. A week went by, and then somebody from Home Shield called me. And I told him the story, and there were a lot of issues. Finally, somebody came out, and then he said he fixed it, but he didn't. And then he came back out another day and then said he found the problem and fixed the heat. After that, every time I went to file a claim and needed something, the folks that have come out have been great and the service has been great.

My freezer stopped working all of a sudden. I don’t know what happened. Richard's Appliance Repair came out and tried to repair it and the tech put in a new control panel. But that wasn’t the issue. So, I have to call Home Shield again and open up another request to have the contractor come back out again. This is my second time to use them. The first time, it wasn’t good at all.

Some of Home Shield's reps don’t listen. I had an issue where when you turned on my hot water, you would smell gas, but it was only the water upstairs. However, Home Shield's rep sent out a chimney person which was the wrong person. I needed an HVAC person. When I called back to let them know I still had the same problem, they tried to make me pay another $75. Why should I have to pay another $75 when their rep sent out the wrong person? So, right now, I’m torn between staying with them or going with BGE Home.

They told me that I needed a replacement of some type of a box. So, after they came and determined that, they told me they were gonna order the part and they'd be back with it.

I submitted the claim online and the AHS website was pretty good. But I don’t normally go through the internet. I wanna verbally speak to somebody just so I know who’s coming out. But I couldn’t get through calling. It just was ringing. It was the weekend and I gotta do something because it was hot. Then when I submitted the claim, all it did was told me that somebody would be contacting me and it showed me the name of who would contact me but it worked.

The actual contractors were excellent. From the time of telling me what was wrong, I got a call back from the company telling me my part was in and someone would be coming out. They also did everything they needed to do. When they ordered the part, it took three days or so. It was hot but they worked something for me to bypass while I was in that time frame where I could be a little cooler. He also explained that the electric bill might be up a little bit more, but it would ease me for the time period until the part would come in. I was very satisfied. When the guy came back with the part, they put the part in and they answered all of my questions. It went excellent and I would recommend them to anybody. I’m enjoying my air now.

I just went online and their website was user-friendly. Somebody called me that day and set the appointment for Air Pro Master to come out for the next morning.

Everything was in my garage so the contractors didn’t have to come in. They just opened the garage door, checked the water heater and it took them about two minutes to figure out it wasn’t firing. They knew exactly what it needed. And then the pressure regulator was in the garage too, so they checked that as well. I had to call them separately because it was two different items. But we kinda found out about the second item from the first item too. They were very friendly, and everything’s working fine now. It was nice to have hot water again. I like AHS, and I’d recommend them. I had Old Republic and one of those other companies but AHS is better. I had some problems with the other company. When they did repairs they generally give me lower quality replacement items instead of the same quality.

Everything's been working fine. The tech was very nice, fast, and good. I would recommend him to anybody.

The only thing is right now, I've tried to call and couldn't get an answer. I was held for about 25 minutes. My deep freezer went out. I couldn't find where it was on my appliance plan and I looked back through my warranty and everything and it says that the freezer was not covered. I needed to ask a question about it. Refrigerators are covered but the paperwork says, "Not covered, free-standing freezer, multimedia centers, and wine chillers." That may be some things that American Home Shield just doesn't cover. After I signed up with American Home Shield, they told me that I had to wait 30 days before I can file a claim. Then when I first dealt with them, I had an electrical issue. But I don't know who those people were that they sent to my house. They came out, opened my breaker box, left my breaker box open and left wires out then they didn't come back to my house until like two weeks later. They were supposed to come out but then they said the guy had a car issue. I asked if there was anyone else that they could send out and they said no. But the lights on one side of my house were still out. So I called American Shield. I told them it was unacceptable and I asked if there was someone else they could send out. But the lady I was speaking with looked like she didn't have any concern. It was the same with with the electric company. They weren’t trying to do anything.

Basically, I had to sit and wait for two weeks without the lights. By the time they came out, my husband had already replaced whatever the thing was in the breaker box. Then the contractor came out and said, “Oh, well, it’s fixed.” That right there pissed me off on both parties. Without my electricity, I can’t see and function correctly in the home. But other than that, like with Coastal Appliances, I haven't had any problems. They acted promptly. When I reached out to American Home Shield, Costal came out and assessed my refrigerator. They told me everything that needed to be done. They said they were gonna order the parts and they’ll get back with me once the parts come back in, which they did.

They came back out a week or so later, installed the part and told me that if the refrigerator was still not working properly, to give them a call. The tech said that the refrigerator had to go through so many cycles. So I waited for a couple of days because the light never came on. I also have two ice makers and only one of the ice makers, the one that's on the bottom freezer, was operating. My water dispenser and the top icemaker weren't working. The light in the refrigerator never did come on either.

So I called Coastal back. That's what they instructed me to do but once I called them back, they told me to call American Home Shield to put in the order with American Home Shield. I did that and I followed the prompts on American Home Shield, and everything worked out smoothly. Coastal came back out yesterday to see what the problem is. My brother was there so they told my brother that they needed to order some more parts. I guess that the part that they ordered that was supposed to fix the issue didn’t fix the issue.

Don't waste your time on American Home Shield. The concept is good, but it leaves a lot to be desired. Long phone wait times. The only thing that can be done online is to order service, everything else requires a call to customer service. In the past 3 weeks I have called them 9 times, but was only able to speak to a representative 3 of those time (the other calls were disconnected by them on what sounded like a line transfer). My wait times, with the same loop of annoying muzak, were a minimum of 41 min and up to 62 minutes. The customer service reps were busy reading their preprinted response cards and did not seem to understand the issue. (The issue was that they were unable to locate a service provider in 3 weeks time and would reimburse my fee and then reassign my case so that it would "meet their guarantee of 48hrs for assignment".)

After 3 weeks without a refrigerator and being told they "understand the importance of having a refrigerator, please let me expedite this for you" and still not having any service. At this point I decided to cancel AHS and just do my own. It took 2 days and multiple phone calls to cancel. I told them the reason why, they read another printed script about the value of having AHS, I restated that I wanted to cancel my entire contract, they continued to read the script, and it continued this was for 20 minutes. When I was finally told that they would cancel it & refund my money, it was not the correct prorate and didn't include the monies I already paid for a non-existent service call. That was fixed, but only because I inquired.

Ultimately, I called a few local appliance repair shops & was told that they will not work with AHS because they have been difficult to work with & have too much criteria to meet/paperwork to do/hoops to jump through for payment and it's wasted, non-productive time that they could spend actually working. Not having a fridge & trying to feed a large family for 3 weeks has been difficult, but it's a walk in the park compared to dealing with AHS. It is definitely not worth the headache. Don't waste your money or your time.

I really pushed to have American Home Shield when I bought my home and when I got that first year, I liked the way they dealt with me. It was easy to call and talk to someone about my issue. But I had to wait longer since this COVID thing and the wait was unreal. One day, I waited almost two hours just to get ahold of somebody on the phone. But they were obviously busy so I was trying to be patient because I have dealings with a lot of companies I have to wait a long time with. Other than that, the people that they've sent out had been knowledgeable. It's just unfortunate that appliances break.

Recently, I had an issue with the refrigerator which had been a consistent one and we couldn't seem to get it fixed. Then, the round thing that's on the front of the washing machine needed to be dealt with. I submitted my claims with AHS then Mr. Appliance of East Texas called me within a day or so to set up the appointment. They were very fast about it and we just had to coordinate our schedules so that they could come out here. They came to check out both issues and they did a great job. They were knowledgeable and I appreciated the safety that they took because of the COVID thing. They always came in with masks plus they had their shoe coverings and gloves.

Compared to them, the other repairmen that I've had since AHS has had our contract need to take better notes. I had an issue because of this refrigerator and was told on the first three visits by the contractor that came to deal with it that they had put the notes in there about what they were doing as well as the parts. But it didn't seem that way. It seemed like Sears didn't pass their notes onto AHS. They submitted the request out, then Sears had come and done the service. But there was a lack of information coming back to AHS telling them what had been done and what was the result. So, that needs to be dealt with a little better. I'm also hoping that my rates aren't gonna go up because last month, I saw a little bit of an increase. But I thought it was because of a service call as they charge you for the service calls. Other than that, AHS has answered my needs and so far, I'm happy with them.

Then my most recent claim was for when the stove wasn’t working properly. My wife complained that she couldn’t control the electric stove when she was trying to cook. There was no control over the two front burners and they would stay on high all the time. It was like that for a few weeks and I said that we needed to have it looked at so, I made a claim with AHS. It was a straightforward experience. Instead of doing it online, I called because I had some coupons that I needed to do. A man called a day later and he came in a couple of days. He looked at the stove, tested it, ordered some parts, came back in a week, and installed them. He was very polite and efficient. He was in and out very quickly. I was very satisfied.

One Appliance handled my claim great. I’d like to see the tech again if I had to have an appliance worked on. I’m really happy with the customer experience.

My upstairs AC was not cooling enough and even though if you set around 70 or 73, it was never trying to cool it to that level. It was always hot. I submitted a service request through American Home Shield online. I received the first appointment call and then the Comfort First technician came and diagnosed it. They looked at my Freon and the pressure was very low, so they said it was initially leaking somewhere. But the basic leak test did not tell where the leak was. Then they found out the evaporator coil was leaking and that was when they recommended to change the evaporator coil. Since it was within warranty, they ended up getting me a new evaporator coil from the manufacturer. I also receive follow-up calls, which was good.

American Home Shield's website is pretty decent. But when you narrow into your selection of what service, sometimes, there is more question that pops out than what it is on the drag down menu. That's when it becomes really challenging to pick the right one. With my AC claim, I requested some documents because if it fails again in a year or two and I'm not in contact with the Comfort First anymore, how do I make sure I process it the right way. But American Home Shield doesn't have proper documentation. I ended up taking a picture of the tag from the hardware itself and keeping a record for myself. I don't have any visibility of what the claim the contractor have submitted to American Home Shield.

So far, American Home Shield has been good. But the monthly premium is still a little high and sometimes, I need to be on top of the service calls and the follow-up calls. I had a different issue before with American Shield for my electrical claim and they sent me a technician that didn't have a clue what he was doing. I wished they sent a better technician. I needed to do a follow-up call a couple of times and then the third time was the charm and I got a better electrician who kind of very quickly fixed the problem. Within half an hour, he fixed the problem. So the challenge was finding the right technician and the right partner to work with.

This is the second time around that I've had American Home Shield. It’s easy when you put in a claim with them and they follow up on it right away. I made a claim when I had water coming from the bathroom and I didn’t know where it was coming from. Rapp’s Heating and AC came out and they did some checking. They found out that it was from the water heater so they filled up and fixed that. I also had some faucets in the bathroom that I needed fixing. But they said they didn’t do that because they said the stem has been missing. Otherwise, they did okay.

In the first claim that I had with American Home Shield, it was good because it was by another company and I enjoyed it. I had a better experience with them than I did with Rapp’s. American Home Shield itself is good although I wasn’t completely satisfied because of some of those things. But I would recommend it. But maybe the person who has the warranty should know what’s covered. I had a plumbing issue and if they let me know that they didn’t do certain things, then I wouldn’t be expecting them to do that.

I submitted my claim online this time. I had another company before, and this was definitely a lot easier. And then, this vendor, TRL Service, took a little longer to come out than I anticipated. They called me within the 48 hours, but it took them a little longer to come out. They took about six days. It was at the beginning of the whole COVID-19 so everything was just out of sorts. So, we didn’t put a whole lot of stock in that being late because everybody was just trying to figure it out as we were going along. My experience was actually very good. TRL was very professional. They came in, diagnosed the problem, made a couple phone calls, came back in, and fixed the issue.

Tri-County Plumbing was my designated vendor for a service request I made. Their tech came out first to look at the job and he was all in his protective gear. That was just cool. He was very courteous, quick, and efficient. He left then came back with a tank a couple of days later and did the job. He got it up to code. I was here the whole day he was here. I didn’t even hear a bump and he was only a wall behind me. He was very quiet and I was impressed. My dad is a retired plumber so I’ve seen a lot of water heater jobs because I used to help him when the hot water heater is out. I know good plumbing when I see it and he did a good job. The permit people came out yesterday to inspect it and said it was perfect. It worked out well.

We’ve owned numerous houses and we’ve had American Home Shield with most of our homes. We've had the warranty a while. It’s easy. No matter what breaks that’s on my plan, it’s only $75 out of my pocket. But in this case, I paid for an upgraded water heater. That was my decision though, not theirs. I just like that all I have to do is go to the American Home Shield website and make the claim or give them a phone call, and they do everything else. I’ve never really had any challenges. They even paid the guy to fix something that wasn’t covered. It looked like it was covered initially then when they discovered what was wrong, it was actually something that I did wrong.

We’ve had great experiences so far with American Home Shield. When the air conditioning unit outside the house would turn on, it would make this really loud embarrassing noise, like you could hear it from a couple of houses away. It was constantly running, like it would turn on and run for a good 30 minutes, then it would shut off for 10 minutes and be on again. It was like that all day and it’s not like I had the thermostat set super low. We have it set on 70 degrees, and it’s 85 degrees here. It was having trouble running and it was the bearings on the motor that were clearly going out on the AC. Platinum Heating & Air repaired it the same day and it’s working great. It’s quiet and efficient.

So I had to call one time. Bu they’re great. The contractor from Austin Heating and Air was here on time. He texted before he got here. He went up there and checked my AC unit and said it was a fuse. He fixed it and as soon as he came down it worked. So he was in and out, quick, and got it done.

The garbage disposal was not working and the rep was great when we called American Home Shield. Usually, they get the contractors contacted quickly and the contractors usually contact us quickly too. They get us in and out. The rep told me that within 24 hours, the contractor would contact me and he called the next day. The representative from that contracting department advised us that he was behind a couple of jobs, which I understood because of what was going on with COVID. We never had any problems with them or with AHS. He did a great job and the garbage disposal is working. I had a couple of questions because I wasn't here when he came and fixed it. So, I called the next day and he was out on a job but he called me back. So, that was reassuring that he took a lot into his job to call a customer back.

The washing machine was vibrating, and it wouldn't turn off. I had to unplug it. If I plug it back in, it would start up on its own. The fellow that AHS sent came and checked it and he had to order parts. He knew what the parts were. It was a control panel in the Maytag washing machine that had gone bad. It took about two weeks for the part to come in. He came out again and fixed it. It didn't take him long. It's been running good ever since. I'm waiting on a repair now on my stove. They've already given me the name of the company. So, I'm waiting for this company to call me. With this virus going around, things are a little slow. The claims process of AHS is easy. All you gotta do is have the credit card or bank account, and you just pay that one-time fee of $100. AHS does a good job and they do what they say they're gonna do. Everything has been smooth. I tell people about it.

We had a pipe under the sink that broke in half. The website was good, although I would have appreciated if it was more detailed on what exactly was covered because when I submitted my claim for a plumbing, it just said, “Plumbing.” So, I thought that was regarding anything with plumbing. But when the contractor came out, they said, “Oh, well. This pipe broke because of a pre-existing condition,” which we haven’t been aware of from previous owners. So, it ended up not being covered.

I get that insurance covers some things and doesn’t cover others, but I didn’t feel it was clarified well enough when I went and tried to figure out if it was going to be covered before I went through the process. They said that if it had been part of the drain pipes coming from the faucet or if it had been part of the disposal, it would have probably been covered. But it was the one coming out of the wall. It wasn’t covered because of that, but it wasn’t very clear. It was disappointing to find out. We’ve had one guy come in and give us a quote, and then remembered that we had the Home Shield. So, we thought, “Oh, excited.” It’s a lot. We didn’t understand what was going on, so some of that is on us and not Home Shield’s fault.

But what I really appreciated was that the service was very good. I appreciated that even though Home Shield ended up not covering it, they sent us a contractor who was excellent and we used them to get the work done instead of some of the other people that we called in. Even in the future, if I have something that’s not covered, I may contact Home Shield to find out which contractors they use because they pick reliable, trustworthy, good contractors. I really liked the plumbing guys that Home Shield sent out. They were great, did a really good job, and seemed very honest. The service was very quick. I will probably use the contractor in the future if we had any other plumbing issues.

American Home Shield does a great job responding and getting things handled. When the stove wasn't working I filed the claim online. AHS called and had somebody come out and look. When they went to pick it up, they turned it on the corner and ripped my kitchen floor. The guy said he couldn't fix the stove, so then they had somebody else. I walked through it with a lady and I ordered a stove. They called and said they would have it delivered on a certain day between a certain amount of time. They ended up not installing it and then we had it installed ourselves. Overall I'm happy I have an oven that works but I'm really upset about my floor because my floor is from the entrance foyer to the kitchen, to the dining room. It's all one piece.

The AC system wasn’t cooling and I sent a service request to AHS. A tech from Rush Heating and Cooling came out and he changed a part inside. AHS has been very reliable but at the time, I was put on hold for an hour. Still, I would let that pass because I know that we're in peculiar times and I understand that it was because of COVID-19. And before that, any time I called for service, I've never had any reason to complain.

Other than that, when my dishwasher went bad, AHS sent in someone. He came to check and a part of it was discontinued. AHS said that they'd offer me a new one, but they offered me a GE. Everything in my house is Bosch and JennAir, so I wanted another Bosch. They told me that if I went to the store and got a new one, they would make a check out. They already told me how much they were gonna give me, but what I wanted was way more expensive than that. I went to a store and bought it. Then, I called AHS and the guy I spoke to didn't say anything. He just said that the instruction was in the email and I didn't have to call. I want to believe that was because of the COVID-19 stuff because I’ve never had that experience with them before. So, I sent him the email as well as the photocopy of the receipt and I hope to hear from AHS soon.
