It is a nightmare trying to get in touch with customer service right now as my basement has a leak by the bathroom! I have called for the last three days and received no answer; additionally, the contractors they send to repair the plumbing problems come across as amateurs who struggle to diagnose and fix the problems presented. The only reason I have this warranty account is because it was "gifted" to me by my realtor and their company as I am a first time homebuyer. So far I must say, only six months in and this warranty has not benefited me in the slightest!

AHS IS COMPLETE TRASH!! 6 days after we moved into our home we realized there was a leak in the master bath tub that completely flooded out our 4th bedroom. It took AHS 3 months to get someone out to even look at it THEN after this plumber cut a hole and "fixed" the pipes we were left with a 3ft by 4ft hole in our wall. AHS refused to fix it because "it wasn't damage caused by the leak" but it was damage caused by the plumber that had to fix the leak. After months (I'm not exaggerating) of complaining that they needed to get the wall fixed they finally agreed and "scheduled a repair man to come out to fix the damaged wall and baseboards." THE COMPANY THEY SENT OUT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST!!!!
After 9.5 months of going back and forth with this TERRIBLE company and their RUDE employees, I finally just paid someone to come out and fix it. The baseboards are still ruined from the leak and the carpet is also still ruined. This company is a giant WASTE OF TIME!! I waited until I was out of my contract or whatever to post this. This all started 1/3/2019... (Less than 2 weeks before my son was born.) TRASH TRASH TRASH company. Pay more for a better company!! I've left reviews on EVERY social media platform and on every review board and have noticed them being taken down!!!!

Horrible company!! They do not care about their customers. Be ready to wait hours to get any customer service person to help you. Be ready to wait days and weeks to have a company they contract with to come look at the problem, only to not resolve it. We ended up having to go through outside authorization, followed all of AHS rules that they told us only to say they were denying it due to cost. So I've paid over $1,600 this year to have AHS cover 2 properties I own to now have to pay $2000 for something they should cover. Worthless company with no values. Cancelled both contracts.

Today I received a call from AHS advising that our washing machine that was under warranty and had been taken in for repair would need to be replaced. The caller had questions regarding the replacement. I asked that we be able to call back since my wife would need to answer the questions. The wife arrived shortly thereafter and we have tried to call the number given three times. The first two times we were on hold for over 30 minutes. The third call, which I am still holding at over 1 hour now, still has not been answered. I understand the Covid19 issue may play a role in this lack of service but on hold for over an hour is not reasonable. I will be reviewing other home warranty companies in the future. That being said, my past experiences with AHS have been ok.

When our A/C stopped working the repair technician identified that the coil had an non-repairable leak and needed to be replaced. He submitted the details for the coil replacement, as well as, new system upgrade options to AHS on a Friday afternoon. Upon multiple calls to AHS to check on the status of the authorization (each of which had a 1hr wait time to speak with someone), we were told that the authorization department had 48 hrs (not including weekends) to respond and that there was nothing we could do to get an update.
Finally, on Wednesday (4 days later) we received an update that we would have to pay $1,500 out of pocket BEFORE the technician could be scheduled to complete the repair! When we called back to understand the estimate and asked about the system replacement/upgrade options, we were told that would be a separate request, to a separate department, that has up to 48hrs to respond - despite the fact that this was clearly documented in the original repair notes! 1 week to simply get confirmation of what the repair options are is completely unacceptable, especially when it's for an A/C in 100+ degree summer heat. I would not recommend doing business with this company if you're hoping to get any major appliance repairs covered in a timely fashion.
Thank you for providing your experience. We do apologize for any inconvenience and would love to assist in a resolution pertaining to your a/c unit. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

This company is a scam! They take your money and offer nothing in return. We’ve called several times and have waited on hold for over an hour (both my wife once and myself once too). We placed a service request over two weeks ago and paid the service request fee. We have never had anyone call us or come out... Again, we’ve tried calling several times and never get through to anyone. We have trying calling Stars several times too. They are the appliance repair company that AHS said would be dispatched in AHS’s confirmation email. Stars said they can’t find us or our number in their system. Of course, at this point, we’re trying to cancel but still cannot get a hold of anyone. We’ve had to call our bank to put a stop payment from this company. This is ridiculous!
We do apologize for the delay in service. It is not our intent to cause an inconvenience pertaining to your dishwasher. We would love to assist in a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

Ice Cube Air came out for an air conditioner that wasn't working and the technician was great. However, I made the request online and it took three days for him to come out. In Las Vegas, in a 100 something degree weather and an air conditioner is out, three days is a little long.

Having a home warranty is very important, especially if you’re not renting. With every dishwasher I had, the engine wasn't made anymore so we had to order a new dishwasher. The dishwasher's going to be ordered through American Home Shield, not through the contractor that came for the initial visit. Recently, Chesapeake Appliance Repair came, fixed the problem and it was excellent. The replacement took a week and when a new dishwasher came, everything was good to go. Now, it works wonderful.

I told him and he said that that was it sounded like. He wore a mask when he came. He also brought a belt and that was what the issue was. Five months ago, I filed a claim for my new KitchenAid refrigerator which was having some problems with the LED lighting. That was fixed. Everything we’ve done with American Home Shield has been good so far. I’ll renew again.

We've been with American Home Shield since October of 1992. Some years we use them quite a bit and some years, we don't. We pay the premium and if we have a service call, that's fine, and if we don't, that's okay if we don't need anything. I told the guy earlier this year that later on, I would be needing quite a bit of work done because I knew my dishwasher needed to have a new seal in it, although I didn't know my refrigerator was gonna go out and cause a lot of problems there. But Sears did an excellent job on that.
We had a plumbing issue recently and Tom Melton Services came out. We paid our part of it which was $541 for a lot of different connections. American Home Shield furnished the water heater and Melton also fixed a commode. They also installed a kitchen faucet that had gone bad. We were very happy with what Melton had done and we were very glad with American Home Shield for providing the service. They did an excellent job. I was very pleased with them. I've always had good service. I've had two plumbers that I flatly refused to let them come back in my house and American Home Shield has that written down on record.

I’ve only used Home Shield out once before when I bought the house and submitting that claim was super easy. They rekeyed all my doors, which was fine. And then, I had a leak underneath my sink and it was all wet. Home Shield sent a guy out and we ran the dishwasher. He said he couldn’t figure out where the leak was coming from but he believed me that there was a leak. I had to replace everything underneath. He said, “If it leaks again, call us back.” I said, “You’re a plumber. You should be able to figure out where this leak is coming from.” He went into the bathroom, to the other faucet that was leaking. He said he fixed it. t bothered me because I could tell it was crooked. It’s still leaking but I just couldn’t be bothered to have Home Shield send me out someone else and have a friend come out look at it.
Home Shield did what they were supposed to do. It’s not their fault that I wasn’t happy with the plumber that came out because he didn’t resolve any of my issues and it still cost me. It was kind of my fault, but I was wondering who do they call to come out here? It seemed that it was that guy’s first day or something. He apologized that he couldn’t help me and told me to call them if I see it leaking, and to try and take a video of it. And I said, “It’s soaking wet under here. All the wood has to be replaced. What do you mean you can’t find the leak?”
AHS is fine. It’s the plumbing company I'm not happy with. Maybe I should go back on my claim and say, “No, this is subpar.” I would feel more motivated to talk to Home Shield about me being happy about it if they followed up on the visit. They didn’t follow up to ask me if I was satisfied with the resolution of my claim and then it probably would have opened the door for me to say I wasn't. They should follow up on all the service orders.

I had a different company that I used before and I didn’t like them at all. They never did what they said they were gonna do in a timely manner. Service calls didn’t happen. The contractor from American Home Shield, at least, addressed what was going on. My water pressure is going down and the guy from Plumbing Enterprises diagnosed pretty much what is going on, although he wasn’t entirely sure. He said I would need a new faucet because something was blocking it on that level. His professionalism was also fine. He worked and did things quickly.
But he came back today and found out that the problem isn’t just from our water faucet. It’s from our water heater. It’s older and it had been rusted out at the bottom. It looks like the water heater has been causing sediments to collect in our faucet. But I’m not sure what’s going on with the claim yet because after the faucet was looked at, nothing ever happened. I never received a phone call, message or e-mail updating what’s going on. So I sent in another claim to update it and say I need someone else to come out.
Unfortunately, the lack of follow-up is the thing that I have an issue with. But I’m sure there are also less people in any office right now because of what’s going on in the world. Things fall through the cracks and if they think it’s just a faucet replacement, it’s probably lower on the totem pole than some people who need full scale things replaced or emergency issues for their homes. My experience is not perfect but I can understand. This is our third month with American Home Shield and I like it so far. Nothing has been replaced yet but American Home Shield has service calls that happen very quickly so they can at least address the problems.

Robert McDade, the owner of the company, came out and inspected my garbage disposal. He recommended a new garbage disposal because mine was rusted on the inside and when it was able to finally churn, you could see the rust coming off. AHS approved a new garbage disposal and he installed it that day. I was not pleased with what I had to pay for my AC service and the amount of time I had to wait to get approval for it. I was without air in Texas for a week. The approval process for air is not even comparable to the same-day process of the garbage disposal.
A-US came out and said AHS has up to 72 hours to approve. They pretty much took almost 72 hours to approve me getting my air fixed. Then, I had to wait for A-US to be able to come out. It was hot with everyone having air issues. AHS extended waiting for an approval because A-US was so busy. For Freon or what they had to refill my air unit with, it was $70 per unit but American Home Shield only paid $10. By the time they serviced it and repaired the leak in my coil, I had paid over $1,900 after waiting a week for air. There should be some kind of division for air so that when you need to have approval, you get expedited approval for air or heat services in the winter for anyone.

When you call and make a claim, getting somebody on the line is the problem. Sometimes we've been on the phone for a hour before someone answers. However, once you talk to somebody and the process starts, it’s cool and everything is great. They switch you over to the contractor, which was Climate King in my case. The contractor then schedules an appointment and comes right on out.

They had the people call us right away and everything worked out, although it took a little bit longer. Both experiences I had with Home Shield were good. They were very efficient. The air conditioning wasn’t working and wouldn’t turn on. I made the call and submitted the claim on a Saturday. Then K & S Heating came out on a Wednesday. We had checked the fuses but I guess it was some kind of fuse that we didn't check and they were able to fix it really quickly. We've had American Home Shield for over four years now and the monthly cost is a little expensive for my taste but we live in an old house and although our appliances are fairly new, we have an issue with our air conditioner every single year. It’s something different every year and even when we get it serviced, like getting the filter changed, there's always something. I don’t know if it’s just ready to be gone and be done but it’s usually nothing big. And in that regard, the warranty has kind of paid for itself. Aside from the AC, we also had an issue with our furnace.

Our home is already 15 years old, and we’ve never had a home warranty before, so I figured it was time. We’re going to be here a little bit longer and our home’s not getting any younger, and neither is everything else in it. It was through name recognition that we bought American Home Shield and on my first claims experience, everything was straightforward. Our upstairs unit wasn’t working. It wasn’t blowing any cold air and then when it would, it would only blow cold air for a little while. We would then have to turn it off, let it rest, and then it only works intermittently. I submitted a claim and the process was easy. Also, the next day or two after I submitted, somebody contacted me.

I don’t really like AHS's claims process. I have to make a phone call and then I don’t get the live person. I made the request through voicemail. Then AHS has three days to contact you back and then you get a phone call from the company itself. It’s a lot of here and there. Also, being a first-time homebuyer, I already had a company out here for heat issues in January. I had that same company out here for my AC issues. Due to the fact that I have a home warranty with AHS, the company asked if they could come out since they already did the work for me.
I was unaware that AHS has their own people that they contract with and I had to get whoever they sent me. The people that came out here were all the way from Georgia. It makes more sense to get someone close by. I really don’t like that I’m not able to choose my own people. I also wasn’t told about the Freon. I thought the $100 covered everything, but I had to pay Freon. Now, I toy with the thought of, “Should I keep it? Should I not keep it?” But I’m the type of person that once I do not keep it, then something’s gonna happen to my house. But I don’t like paying for something I don’t see, and it is a lot of money. I wish it was a little bit less, but it is what it is.

My son handled things for me and he called the claim in. We had one about an electrical outlet in a bathroom and we were very happy with the time it took to get the contractor with the claim and everything else. My son said the dispatch at the company was very courteous and the technician explained to us what needed to be done. Now, he says they’ve been performing very well. However, we had another claim that was for an air conditioner and the technician that was here said that there was a power surge in the board which caused the air conditioning problem.
I was concerned about how knew it was a power surge. If it was, then Home Shield was not going to pay for anything. That was questionable to me but he didn't say anything. He just said that he was going to submit it and see if it would be taken care of. Home Shield did not take care of that, and I was very upset about it. I called them and they just said that I was responsible because it was a power surge. When I questioned Home Shield too, they said nothing as well. I had to pay for it, $500. I have also called in two or three times for status, and while everyone is very nice, the fact that I waited online for a minimum of one hour for a person really soured the experience. They were unable to tell me anything other than "it has been ordered". This has been a disaster for us here, as we have to impose on others to get showers, etc. We are washing dishes by hand using pots of hot water. It's like living the worst part of camping for two weeks. I could have purchased a hot water heater locally for $1000 and had it installed in three days. I love this plan, but this has really soured this experience for me. I pay a monthly amount and $75 for the service fee, and we are still waiting... I gave them 1 star because the customer service while on the phone was very professional and they tried...
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

After leaving a 2 star review, I had a very rapid response from the company and my issue was mostly resolved - I will need a new washing machine, but the department within AHS that manages that is also backed up.

While I appreciate being able to request service on-line quickly, I never received a call from the appliance repair company and had to call them myself (not necessarily AHS's fault). I was told that my 26 year old washer could not be repaired because Maytag no longer makes the parts. Today (day after appointment), I tried twice to call AHS to find out next steps - I waited the first time on hold for 20 minutes (had to get off for a work call), and the second for 60 minutes (again, had to get off for a work call). In all fairness, I am a bit annoyed as I have been without a washing machine for a week, but having to sit on line for an hour without any assistance is ridiculous. I would have stayed on longer, but do have a job...

I requested a leak repair on 5/28, I received a call from the contractor & I explain where the leak is. Technician came on 5/29, without digging (better to say without moving his finger) told us it's not covered under warranty because it's not on the foundation of the house. I hired another plumbing company (paid $250) to locate the leak. They brought a device & located the leak source & dig the soil. The leak is coming from a slab which is on the foundation.
So far I called AHS 4 times (the minimum waiting time was 47min to speak to a rep) but with no resolution, no proper explanation what they are going to resolve the issue. I paid $100 for service call + $250 for leak locating + higher water bill + more than 5 hours valuable time. It would have been cheaper quicker if I don't have a warranty at all. AHS claims/brag they have millions of customers but they don't mention the only have handful of customer service rep somewhere in Asia. Stay away, don't waste your time & money here.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

My refrigerator broke down. So I filled the service request form and mentioned that I own an LG brand. They first assigned a contractor who was not certified on LG appliances. I tried calling them numerous times about it, but I was kept on hold for 45-60 min straight but still no human on the other hand. Therefore I canceled my original request and created another service request hoping I will get a new contractor. This time they did not even assign any servicer to my request. It's been three days since it broke down. Still waiting for them to assign a servicer to my request. Cannot trust them when in need.
We do apologize for the inconvenience in response to the refrigerator. It is not our intent to cause such a hassle. We would love to speak with you in regards to this. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

When I had the problem with the central air, they sent Rescue Air out here. The tech told me it was evaporator and he told me it was two or three other things wrong with it. He showed me how it was frozen up and he told me that it will cause a whole lot of money. When I talked to the lady back at American Home Shield, they told me what I would have to pay for and then they told me I was gonna out now $100. I wasn't surprised but then they would say they don't pay for this. This man had told them that I needed eight pounds or more Freon. But that's a brand air central unit.
I wanted a second opinion and I asked for Taynor Gardner because they've been servicing the unit all this time. Mr. Gardner came over here and they didn't have the same diagnosis as the previous man. Our air was out for a month and I had to buy a window unit because it was hot. My mother has real health problems and I have severe asthma. It was a pretty horrible situation. But Mr. Gardner was able to hook it up. My mother and I had air ever since.
I had a claim for my refrigerator before and I lost over $250 worth of food because of the delay for the tech to come out. But when he came, he fixed it. He was a good repairman. He did what he said he was gonna do. It just took longer because he said he had been in a car accident and his head was hurting. But I always liked American Home Shield because I'm a paycheck-to-paycheck person. It allows for people like me to be able to have a warranty that they can pay for. It’s affordable for people that are on fixed income. If something goes wrong, they can get a service. If a serviceman had to come here and I gotta pay him $182 just to come out and not to fix the problem, I don't have it. So I don't mind paying the monthly fee with American Home Shield. My fee used to be lower than it is now. Sometimes you get in trouble with that but they don't cut you off. They call you and they give you a chance to give it to them.
American Home Shield has been dependable in the past. When our air conditioner went out several years ago, they said they would had a service tech that would come at the same day late in the evening, you know. I also had a bad hot water heater before. I was going in the kitchen one day and it was shooting water out. But they handled it. They also repaired the heating element of my oven before.

The AHS claims process was nice. All I did was call and then they set the repair up real quick. It was hot and I thought that there are a lot of people with their air conditioning out and that it was gonna be a while. But the KRP tech came out that same day. We had to shut the air conditioner off because it was iced up and he couldn’t do anything. He came out the next day and fixed it. He was very professional and nice. If I ever had to have a call again, I’d like to have him come over.
The ones AHS called before didn’t really fix the problem. They were supposed to put Freon in it because the AC was low on it. They put Freon in it, but they didn’t fix the leak. They also ones charged me $70 for a pound of Freon and took advantage of me. The KRP guy fixed the leak and charged me 35 for a pound of Freon. KRP is the best to use. They’re very honest and professional. I like honest, nice people. It was a very good experience.

The AC wasn't cooling and it was leaking. It was 87 degrees outside. I have a little kid and my husband was out of town and I was freaking out. I put the service request online and then American Home Shield found a contractor. In three hours, a tech from Mirons was here. He called me, came at 4:00 PM, and was out there the same day. I was very happy with the service because it was very hot. I was dreading to go through the night without an AC. The tech even called me the next day to check on it, just to make sure there was not an issue that was still there. I had another issue with an injector pump. I even called to have the same tech assigned, but the home warranty wouldn't. They have somebody else. He's on the issue and that's why I wanted him, but AHS has someone else.

The technician came out the first time and thought that we were low on Freon. He gave us three and a half pounds and we paid for it. But he also said that it wasn't right so he went in to check the unit upstairs and found that there was a piece that he needed to fix. He ordered the piece and it came in a week later. That pretty much fixed it but he then said that the coils needed to be cleaned. So he made a new thing and got the coils cleaned. He was exceptional, courteous and professional. He got the job done. Our air conditioner has not worked that good since we moved in the house seven years ago. American Home Shield has always done right and if they can't fix it, they get a brand new one. We’re very happy with American Home Shield. We also had probably seven to 10 people sign up with AHS because we told them that it is something to protect their homes.

I've been renting condos and when I had an issue, I just had to call the owners then the techs come and fix it for me. But when I purchased a house, the process was completely different. I needed to know who to contact to get things done and getting the home warranty with AHS is part of my strategy. Recently, I had issues in my kid's bathroom and my visitor's bathroom where it was taking a lot of time to flush the toilet. I also had an issue on my kitchen sink and I thought all three issues were part of the plumbing.
I went into the system and created a service request for these three items. Then, the guy who came out and looked at them told me that the bathroom issues were part of the plumbing but the kitchen sink leakage wasn't. He also said that he couldn't do it and I needed someone else for that. I got a letter as well from AHS saying that the repair for the sink was not part of the contract. That is fine but they need to explain to people why something is not part of the scope of their duty so the people can understand.
Other than that, my experience with AHS has been pretty good and I'm very satisfied overall with the work. I called them seven times so far and out of that, 80% of the time, the contractors came and did a great job. And I really like that they were very professional and very knowledgeable. But there were two instances where the guys who came in were not friendly at all. I told them that if they didn't wanna do the job it was fine with me but they had to go. I don't tolerate that kind of attitude.
But when I had an electricity issue, I was really impressed with the service. The guy showed up on time and was wearing his mask. He had all these stuff and he came in very polite. He knocked on the door, opened it, and said that he was here because I had an appointment. I explained the problem to him and he asked me to show him where the panel was. Then he went there and within 10 minutes, he fixed the issue. The guy also took the time to explain to me what was the issue. For me, that is the quality of work that we need to see. All in all, AHS has a great contractor who knows what to do. They are doing it great and I'm not gonna punish everyone for the work that the few people were not able to do it right. And with current conditions and with this COVID thing going on, everyone is having his own issues.

I had a heating claim with American Home Shield and Legum’s Heating & Cooling came out. Everything went all right but it took four tries. And when the fourth came in, they charged an outrageous price for Freon. They kinda lied because I watched them. They said they were gonna have to take apart the line so they could refill it with Freon and it would cost $576 for the Freon. But they didn’t even take apart the line. I went with it, though. There’s nobody that I could call. I tried calling for customer service. When it was going on, there was nobody to talk to. They just charged the outrageous price for the Freon itself.
My brother’s been telling me to get a home warranty. He talked me into getting one but I got the wrong one. I thought he had American Shield but he got First American. Every time a problem goes on at my house I had to pay for, he would tell me I had better get "that" warranty. He hasn’t had any problems with First American. And I asked him who it is and he said that. But when I made up my mind and I had a paper in the bathroom, I just saw "American" but it was American Shield.
When my brother's heating people come out, he didn't pay for Freon. I said, “Well, these jokers.” That’s why I watched the ones from Legum’s Heating & Cooling. They scratched the pipe. They didn’t know I had somebody watching them. You’re saving on one, but the people who are doing the work are being jerks. I had a guy fix my washer and that went well. I had a guy do my refrigerator the other day and that went well too. I even talked to the people and I said I had people fix my heat. That Freon ain’t never been that high. I ain’t paid $500 on Freon out of the 11 years in the house. But they said that was their call. It’s like you need somebody to go out and fix the stuff. But you don’t need a guy that’s overpricing people if you’re trying to keep them as a client.

Sometimes it’s hard to get through to them though. I have to make a couple of calls. One time, I had called and they called me back. It was Memorial Day weekend, that was screwy, but then they returned my call right away. So, they were pretty good with that so far. I told AHS that I had two units and I wanted them checked. I asked the techs a couple questions about one of my thermostats. They've been really good. But next time for my next maintenance, I'm going to request that they send me somebody else. I like to have the same company all the time. That way, I get the same people all the time and get familiar with my problems.
If we could call and always speak to someone who we could understand, it would be awesome. But since we can't and it's a struggle for us, then it's not a pleasure. It's not a pleasure for us to call and try to request anything to get done because it's hard to communicate with them. I've spoken with AHS, and I got about an inch to just canceling everything because I got so frustrated. And I just bide all of my time and try to hold my temper, but it was hard to speak with those people sometimes. Another concern was the guys come out for the pool, left the house and they got the business done. But this is the first time I've ever had to get out there and I wasn't really quite happy with it but, everything works okay. I have another house in Houston and it has American Shield also.

That’s what I’ve been dealing with them and I’m pretty happy with them. Home Shield hasn’t finished handling it because they were supposed to contact me almost two weeks ago. I’m supposed to get a contact from them because I was going to go with another service instead of Greenway. I should get the cash buyout but I never got a reply from them. They should do things differently with how they deal with the air conditioning. Also, I’ve been with them for years. The buyout is about $750. After the 10 years, I would have invested more in them than I would have gotten from it. They probably could up that, if any, especially if you have someone who is a long time user. But other than that, it’s okay.

When we moved into our house, we had the year warranty from the prior owners. We never had to use it and it expired. We had a small gap, and then I was talking about getting it back again, so we got it back again. It’s not very much, especially for the home coverage, but we’ve had it now for almost another year and with customer experience, it has been absolutely great. I called them up when I had a claim and they got a tech out here right away. It was very easy. The tech was very friendly and open when I was outside with him as well.
Being in Arizona, it’s very hot, so I would offer him water and we were just chatting away. He answered any questions I needed too. He told me that a part had to be ordered and then he gave me an estimated date. The only downfall was waiting about 10 days for the part to come in. It was for an air conditioning unit, but it wasn’t a dire need. After that, it was great. Once the part came in, they came right away and they installed the part then the unit was up and running.

AHS contacted the contractors and they set the appointment that day. The contractors showed up within three days. The contractors did an excellent job. The guy came in and checked my heater. The guy said he wanna look at everything associated with the air conditioner and checked the heater and the thermostat and did a thorough job. He said everything was okay. He was here for 15 minutes. He said everything was working fine, that I continue to do that and to call him back in the fall. They'll come back and redo the heating unit again and take a look at that.
I’m very satisfied with AHS. My only problem with American Home Shield was, I had them originally when I first moved in the house. A year later, we kept going back and forth on the billing issue, and they came in and said, “No. You gotta pay a year in advance.” I said, “I’m okay with that but I’ve been paying a month.” So, I had to go from a year in advance to almost double the price. I said, "Let it lapse. I’m gonna shop around.” I did and then came back. Then they offered me a discount to come back. We’ll see how it goes at the end of this year.

The tech from the first appliance company that Home Shield sent out said that he thought that there was something wrong with the balancing mechanism of the washer. But he was unable to get a part because they weren’t a certified Maytag Service Center. But then, he told his office that it was a user error. It's like he's kind of being dishonest. If he thinks that it's user error, then say so to my face. I haven't spoken to Home Shield about that because it's kinda difficult to actually get them on the phone. Everything is automated, or go online and fill this and that out. It's almost impossible to talk to anybody unless you're getting a new policy.
The other guys came out and they replaced the board, which I think has nothing to do with the balancing of the machine. Even if I put in a small number of clothes, randomly, it would not spin out the clothes and it would give an error code of “off-balance” or “overloaded.” And it's not overloaded. My tub is a 5.5 cubic-foot tub, the biggest one that they make. It doesn't matter if we put in a small number of clothes. If I put in like three days’ worth of shirts, underwear, and socks from just me and my husband, it won't spin it all the way out. And if I put in three days' of jeans, it may spin it all the way out. Nobody seems to be able to fix it. I've had to submit five different claims for the washer and the same goes for my refrigerator.
One morning, the floor was all flooded and I opened up the freezer and the water in the automatic icemaker kept running. I was able to empty all that, clean that out, and push the little arm up so I'm telling it to not make ice anymore so it would stop filling the tray. It was during the COVID-19 thing when it first started. I just left it like that and we didn't use it. A week later, I dropped the arm to try and make ice and it wouldn't. I could almost hear it trying but it never made ice. Finally, I was able to submit a claim and the contractors came out and said the ice maker was bad. They replaced the ice maker and they said it would start making ice in 12 hours. It didn’t make ice in 12 hours so I went online to American Shield. I said I needed another service claim because it was not repaired.
The service company called me and sent somebody else out. They tried to tell me that the filter underneath the sink that goes to the icemaker was clogged and that was my problem. It was not the filter that's clogged. But it's okay. I went and I got a new filter and we replaced it. I put the filter in and tested that the water came out from the other end before I hooked the water line back up to the filter so it could flow up to my refrigerator freezer. There was still no ice. I called and they sent out a tech. He pulled the refrigerator all the way out and the little mechanism in the back of the fridge at the top that allows the water to flow into the icemaker went out. They had to order the parts.
I think that the contractors are just trying to replace the most expensive part of the item without even really diagnosing and seeing what's wrong with the thing. It was the whole computer programming board on my washing machine and the whole icemaker on my refrigerator which didn't solve the problems. I have a two or three-year policy with Home Shield, which I'm kicking myself for, and I will probably not renew with them. I'll try and find a different homeowners’ insurance company after that. They make it very simple to fill out a service request and the response from the time you fill that out is extremely quick. They would send you a text to let you know you've been assigned somebody to fix your appliance and they would be calling you. And they do. That part of the service is awesome but the contractors they use are terrible. If they would just find some different service contractors, that would be great.
Are you still in need of assistance?

With American Home Shield, I could submit a claim online for three different devices and pay the $75 fee. My dryer and my washing machine weren't coming on. We had to wash clothes so I really needed those fixed. Also, the little spinning thing in my dishwasher was off and the water wasn't draining at the bottom of the dishwasher. I submitted the claim online and the AHS website was pretty straightforward. Saulter's Appliance Repair came out last week. I didn't know when to expect them, but I knew that they would give a call within 24 business hours. I was surprised they didn't have a face mask, given the circumstances. But they did the fix in 10 minutes. I checked the dishwasher and there's no water at the bottom of it. The washer and dryer has been working like it was before.

My wife likes AHS, but me personally, I don’t like it very much because when I had my hot water heater go out, they made me wait three days with no water before they got a plumber out there. Then they said, “We’re gonna get somebody out there as soon as we can.” Three days later, the plumbers showed up, but I had to cap off the hot water heater or else my kids wouldn’t have been able to take showers or go to the bathroom for three days. Then they told me that because I touched it, they weren’t gonna cover the claim. So, AHS didn’t cover the claim. I had to go and spend $4,000 for a plumber to come out and replace the water heater.

American Home Shield hired a company to come out six months ago and their technician was great. He fixed it somewhat and left. Then, it just didn't work. The guy cleaned it out really well. The previous owner used a BIC lighter or something to melt the ice 'cause it would get blocked. That's the problem. It's a malfunction of the design of the ice maker. So anyway, he said that if it would act up, call again. It did act up, so we called again and the same guy came out. He came out, did the same thing, then called, said he was gonna put in for a new ice maker. Then the new ice maker came in and he called and set an appointment. He then came out and replaced the ice maker completely. We're very happy.
As of now, the ice maker is working okay. The ice maker in our Samsung refrigerator is the worst ice maker in the world. But the technician was great, very professional and on time. I would want him to come back if I needed him. American Home Shield has been excellent. They do their job. If we put in a claim, we expect to be some sort of response fairly quickly. It worked out great.

My claim where ACE Heating & Cooling came out went excellently. I called my claim in and American Home Shield told me that somebody would call me, and they did. It was very quick and I enjoyed dealing with the rep. They are great and highly recommended. The contractor did a good job. He was very cordial and professional, and he explained everything that was happening. He knew what the issue was as soon as he got here. He checked a few things and within half an hour, he was packing up and getting ready to go.
He stayed a little bit longer too because he changed my filters for me. I've got an 18-foot ceiling, and he did not want me climbing a ladder, so he went up there and change it -- and he did not charge me a deductible. He also told me what I could do to avoid a charge next time, how I could fix it myself. We got AHS when we bought the house a year ago for six months because we didn’t know anything about our utilities. We’ve already renewed, and we like them so much. I will never be without a home warranty.

To file my claim, I used the AHS website. It would be great if they had an app. The window I got was 8:00 to 3:00, but the contractor got here at 5:00, but it was not a problem. They called me when they were on the way here and they told me when they were five minutes out, which was nice. It took them a little while to get here, but they were very good. They fixed all my issues and it seemed like they went above and beyond to get one of those issues resolved.

I got up and it was like 86 degrees in here. I turned the AC down and it ran, but nothing ever happened, so I put in the claim with AHS online. The website was fine. However, the lady from the contractor's company who called me was very hard to understand. But the guy came out and it was great. He was a one-man operation, but he showed up the next day, called me and said, "I'll be finished up about 15 minutes from a job I'm on. I'm really close to you. Is now a convenient time?" I was like, "Sure, I'm here." He didn't have to come in the house. I opened the window because the unit was right there and I could talk back and forth to him just so he could tell me to turn it off or do whatever. He was here about 35 minutes and changed the capacitor and it works fine.

Home Shield has always done real well. But the house that I'm at now, I've had a couple of calls and I was extremely disappointed. One time, the provider that they sent out was complaining the minute he got here about having to do any kind of work and he was supposed to call me back. He had to look for a part and it took me about six weeks to get a garage door opener fixed. I told Home Shield to not send that guy back out here and send somebody else. Eventually, it was repaired right by a good company. Other than that bad experience, I've had nothing but good experiences with them. I had a technician from Total Air Care and he was great, cordial, and on time. He was quick, efficient, and he solved the problem. I will request them the next time I need service.

But we had good results. My husband just called AHS and said, “We need a plumber.” That was the end of submitting a claim. A tech from Blue Ridge Mountain Plumbing came out right on time. He gave us a heads up that he was on his way and was very courteous. He resolved the problem.

We had a couple of claims with AHS, one was the garbage disposal and one was the dishwasher. The guy with the garbage disposal was fine and everything was great. Then the issue with the dishwasher was that the garbage disposal guy didn’t plug it back in. So we paid a claim for the guy to come and plug in our dishwasher. It has been nice just to have American Home Shield as a backup. I have some feeling of security about it. But there should be some way to verify some of the contractors that they'd work with because we had a couple of people that gave just really poor service.

The people at Flowright are supposed to be coming in to install a new hot water tank and they've been incredibly good. The only thing that I don't understand is that I'm paying a monthly service fee but I still have to pay that $125 if I have anybody come out. It seems like this could be a really good program. I've paid $543 into this system for my whole house warranty and the price does not seem that bad for all of my appliances. If the system worked like it claims it does and if people were putting themselves in the same position that any person with a problem is in, this could be a helpful product. I've had the warranty for a year and it's easy to call in to file a claim. But sometimes, it's difficult to get somebody to respond. For my AC issue, J.E. Johnson called and told me they would be out. They didn't know exactly when because they were coming back from doing work in a flood-ravaged area. But at least they kept in contact.
I had called Friday night for the AC problem and I was told that, for whatever reason, they couldn't get anybody to respond to my call. That seems a little bit off the wall. Then finally, on Sunday afternoon, I got a young lady on the line. She told me that they would get a hold of their on-call man and he would call me and let me know how quickly he would come out. I didn't hear anything so the next morning, I gave this nice lady a call and within a couple of minutes, she had me a schedule. So it may be just cross communications. It could be that the gentleman who was supposed to come out was busy.
A lot of times, American Home Shield is dealing with human people and when people want something done, they want it done immediately. But I also realize the fact that American Home Shield is handling other people just like they're handling me and you never know what goes on. I think they do their best to try and get somebody out immediately.

Recurring problems with refrigerator/ won't replace. We have had our refrigerator serviced at least 5 times. Each time it's "fixed" only to fail again. Each service call has to be scheduled, at times the calls are canceled at the last minute, having to be rescheduled again. We have put at least 3 service call charges into this appliance and it is still failing. If you call to schedule service, expect a long wait time, with no option for a call back. If you try to schedule online, expect a message that reads "an error has occurred, please try again in a few minutes." Overall, the scheduling process is time consuming and less than efficient. The service is great once the technician comes, but don't expect the process to be seamless especially if you don't live in a metropolitan area.

Updated on 06/16/2020: Today is June 16 and I STILL have not been given a refund that American Home Shield owes me. It's $100. I have been in touch with a representative and she continually tells me that it takes 3-5 days to get a refund. It's been much longer than five days. In fact, it's been since June 8. I do believe that is more than 3-5 days. American Home Shield didn't have any problems taking my money but they sure don't want to give it back to me. PLEASE SOMEONE REFUND MY MONEY!!!!
Original review: I have had a contract with AHS for decades and have only used it twice. Once when I lived in Florida and recently now that I live in a different state. My central ac started having issues recently so I contacted AHS to have someone come out and check the system. I had to pay $100 for the dispatch fee which I knew I would have to. An ac/heating company came out, checked the ac unit but didn't find any problems. However, shortly thereafter, the unit stopped cooling and the fan stopped blowing. I contacted the local ac/heating company and was advised to contact my home warranty company (AHS) to have someone sent back out to my house. The company owner said that since he was just out to my house recently, I shouldn't have to pay another $100 for a service fee. This is called a 'recall'.
I called AHS this morning and was on hold for HOURS. No one ever answered the phone. The chat feature wasn't working on the website either and no one responded to me on Facebook. My house is extremely hot even though I have the windows open and last night I couldn't sleep because it was so hot. My two dogs are also suffering in this heat and humidity. The only way I could get the ac/heating company dispatched to my house was to pay ANOTHER $100. This was not requested by the ac company by the way. It was the ONLY option on AHS website. If I didn't pay the money I would not get any service.
I am still trying to get in touch with AHS to discuss getting reimbursed but it's impossible. I realize that many companies are short staffed during this pandemic but AHS outsources all calls to other countries. There is no excuse for these employees not answering the phone. I got so fed up with this company after years of being a loyal customer that I got a contract with another home warranty company. They were recommended to me by the ac/heating company. The price is the same as AHS and the coverage is the same. The difference is that they don't outsource their calls. Also, they answer the phone quickly. They have an 'A' rating with the BBB and many positive reviews unlike AHS. It's pretty sad that AHS has gotten so bad that their employees won't even answer the phone. I am now out $100 when this should have never happened.

Our washing machine broke in the middle of May. After being on hold for an hour, we finally got a service appointment for a week later. Service employee promised us a response from the company within two business days about whether they would replace or repair our machine. More than a week later, we received no response from the company. We called and again waited an hour to speak to someone. Service rep made us an offer on some machines and said we could select our option and the machine would arrive in 8-10 business days. We called them back the very next day with our selection (again waited an hour on hold), but were informed that the washing machine THEY offered would not be available until July.
They admitted that they made a mistake by offering a machine that was unavailable but refused to make us a new offer. We asked to speak to a manager who again refused to make us a fair offer or make amends for a mistake that was made by their own service rep! All we wanted was a fair offer, we weren't trying to get more money out of the deal, as accused by the manager. We were forced to take the minimal amount they offered to buy our own washer. We are STILL waiting for a reimbursement and having to follow up with them to get our money.
Every time we call, it's at least an hour wait on hold and nothing is ever straightforward. I highly recommend NOT utilizing this company. They are not worth the frustration what to speak of becoming victim of their extremely poor business ethic. Companies should value their customers and be willing to make reparations for mistakes made on their end that affect their customers well being, especially during the time of a pandemic. Unfortunately this company does not believe in that. I would not recommend them to anyone as a worthwhile insurance experience. What a disappointment.

They also said that the contractor should get ahold of me within 24 hours and if not, I am free to call them. As soon they gave me the number, I called and I told Dunn Rite who I was. I had to leave a message, gave my address, and told them they could call me. I didn’t hear from them until the following week. And every time that I called, I got an answering machine.
I was a little concerned because I looked them up online and I saw that they had had some problems. I don't know if this was the same one or not but I was getting ready to call Home Shield back and ask if I could have somebody else when Dunn Rite called me. They sent someone out about four days later and the tech came when they said he was gonna come. I explained to him the problem and he went to his truck, went to the unit, and told me what he had done. I asked for a copy of the worksheet and he said they don’t give them to the customer and that they go back to the company. But I wrote down what they had done and the unit is working.
We also had a claim for the mainline being clogged. The contractor would have to go up on the roof and take care of it through there, but they wouldn’t and they said they don’t do that. I said I wanted my money back but I don’t believe that that money was ever returned. I called a couple of times but what we did was we hired and paid for the plumber ourselves. I've never had a problem other than that.

American Home Shield was the warranty I got when I purchased the home, and it was easy to make the claim with them. I had a leak from my upstairs bathroom to the first-floor bathroom, and I sent this one over the phone. The experience was good and the contractor was able to come out the same day. Niebuhr Plumbing & Heating came in and figured out that something had to be fixed. They also gave us a couple of suggestions and routes that we could take. The secondary damages that occurred because of what needed to be fixed, however, was not covered. It was not explained until I called back and I asked about it. In order to fix what they had to fix, they had to rip the ceiling apart in order to find what was wrong. So, now my ceiling is torn and I have to get that fixed on my own. If you are considering a home warranty program, read the policy and understand what is covered and what is not.

My claim went great. My GFCI on the back porch wasn't working and the technician replaced that. He put an outdoor one in because when I replaced it when we had bought the house, I put an indoor one in. Then he went and checked the circuit breaker in the garage to make sure that it was good to go because the GFCI was popping the circuit breaker every once in a while. Everything was good and it has been working great ever since. He had great customer service too. He came out in a timely manner and he called. He would tell me where he was at. Then he explained everything. So it was all around a good job.
Everything was great with American Home Shield too. My wife and I are both real happy. I like the ease online. When we bought the house, it was our realtor who suggested American Home Shield. I guess selling houses, he'd used them before. But we had also gotten a year's warranty on my second house that I bought in '09 and that was with American Home Shield too. But we never used it and we never renewed it. We lived there for almost nine years and it was a 50-year-old house but everything was fairly new when we bought it all. On this house, I just renewed our contract, which will start next month.
I did it for a peace of mind. It's just like a new car. We have the warranty on it in case something happens. We're also getting up in age so we're getting ready to be on a fixed income. If the AC goes out, that's a lot of money if something, like the AC, breaks. I can do some work around the house but for major stuff, we gotta have a professional do it and a warranty is good to have. But before I renewed, another home warranty had said that American Home Shield was only there for the initial. He quoted me a plan for the next three years and I asked him to let me talk it over with the wife first because it was a little too high. They wanted $190-something down and then $185 a month for 18 months.
I waited a couple of days and I called American Home Shield to find out. They said that I could renew. I got a renewal thing from American Home Shield stating how much it was gonna be a month. I think it was $65 a month and the rep explained everything. Then he tried to tell me what they would only cover on certain stuff and I knew that was him trying to sell his product by saying that they don't cover stuff. So I asked him specifically what they covered on this and that, and he said he was getting ready to send me an email too. So we double-checked it over and then I called that other guy back. As far as he knows, we're not getting a warranty anymore.

There was a problem with the pump of the dishwasher and Sears came out to fix it. The technician was very professional, efficient and friendly. When he came in, he was able to open it up. He figured it out very quickly and told us what was gonna happen. He said he was gonna order some parts to our house. I don’t know how he knew they were here but he just called me up and scheduled a time, and came in and fixed it. The dishwasher has worked great since. We’ve been with American Home Shield for 10 months and it’s easy to make a claim. The people I talked to on the phone were super helpful and very supportive. The claim before was a water heater and the person they sent out gave us an estimate. I already had a contractor working on my house at the time, so I asked if I could just use the contractor and they said yes. They made it easy for us and so, I was pleasantly surprised how flexible they were to work with.

From the time I call AHS and they get me in touch with somebody, it usually takes a week or so before anybody gets out here to see what’s going on. When I had some kind of noise in the fan, I talked to the contractor on Thursday and he wasn’t able to get to me until next Wednesday. That was about the second or third call I had over the year and it took a long time. The tech came but he couldn’t find any problems. He felt something must have gotten loose and got caught in it and then it fell out. He left and didn’t even go up to look at it. I’m not renewing AHS. Their price went up way high.

American Home Shield needs to be more upfront as to what their policy is if a product needs to be replaced. My air conditioner is at the end of its life now and the repairman said that they will just keep fixing it until it's totally gone, which is fine with me. I don't care. But I wanna know what my option is once it has to be replaced like if they're gonna give me a hard time, if they're gonna pay for it, and how much they're going to pay. They just need to be more transparent about that. I would really appreciate somebody contacting me whether it's via email, a phone call, or a letter to explain better the replacement of machinery, furnace, air conditioner, and that kind of thing.
Otherwise, American Home Shield has some very good contractors. I've used them personally. In fact, I requested them when I did my service call. When my air conditioner was not working, they sent out Home Service Corp. They had to change two parts and they were in and out within probably 45 minutes to an hour. They were great.

We've been with American Home Shield the whole time we've owned the house, which was from late 2014. The process they have now online is easy and you can call if it's something that is not covered in there. They have been good as well as their follow-up. The timeframes they've given me have always been within those timeframes and I've never had a problem with them.
We had a circuit breaker that kept popping every time we plug in a certain appliance. It would pop the circuit breaker no matter what. We plugged it into the kitchen so, I wanted it checked to make sure that the electrical was okay. The rep from Turner Electrical and Lighting came out and checked our wiring, circuit breakers and everything. And they were good. So, he checked the appliance itself. He said that it was drawing too much electricity. It was only supposed to get up to a certain number and as soon as it is plugged in, it was already at that number, or 20. Once it hits 20, it's supposed to pop the circuit breaker. The guy who came out was awesome because he took the time and explained everything to me, what it was doing and what he was doing, and then letting us know that the appliance itself was going bad.

American Home Shield was good in the beginning but lately, they've been horrible. Dealing with them has been a nightmare and right now, I'm really upset with them. I placed the work order, then I had to cancel it and I called two consecutive days to do that. And when the GE rep came to the house, I couldn't let him in because of the virus and I'm a high risk. Then they charged me for the call even if he never came in. I called back and I was on the hour each time with them for almost an hour. Their rep said they would credit me but I got my bill yesterday and they did not credit me. I've gotta call them again and see if I can get it.
Aside from that, I had to call AHS again to get my microwave and cooktop fixed. I had a work order for both of them and when the GE rep came in, he did the job and he was good. But he said he wouldn't look at my stovetop and he didn't have a work order for it. AHS said they'd call me back, but they never called me back. And when I asked to speak to a supervisor, they said they would call me but I have never heard from a supervisor in trying to get this straightened out. Now, I gotta call again and get someone to come out to look at my cooktop.
AHS would also double-charge for these calls but why can't the GE guy do both repairs when he was here? Other than that, when I called AHS about my microwave and cooktop issues, they said that the tech would do both items. I even called back to double-check but when the GE workman came out, he said he couldn't do it. So, I don't know where the screw-up is and this is the third time that this has happened.

I was well pleased with American Home Shield. The air conditioner just wasn't working. It was about three days 'cause it was the Memorial weekend. My daughter submitted the claim. She handles things like that for me. The first time that I had to call AHS, I did not care about that person that was sent out. But I understand that he is not working for AHS. This time, I really like the man from Bissett Plumbing. He knew what he was doing and I liked his attitude. He had to come out a second time because there was some little problem with the air conditioner and he had to change the thermostat. The AC has been performing okay and I recommend him. I'd like to have him every time I have a problem that he can work on. Overall, AHS gives me more peace of mind. If something goes wrong, I'll get it fixed.

There were a lot of problems with the dryer and the tech from Master Pro Repair fixed everything. The parts took longer, but it's COVID and there are all these things and I knew that. As soon as he came and fixed it, I was really happy. He took the time and he got it right. The good part about American Home Shield is if we call, we can get somebody out and we can find out how bad the problem is. They assess it and they can fix it. And I can then make a decision at what point should I replace my appliances. But if I can keep them running, I like to do that until I'm ready to get what I really want. I'm really happy and I tell people to do American Home Shield. I learned what they do and what they don't do and that's fine with the parameters. I just go with the program, whatever it is. I'm just glad I can get somebody out and look at the appliance and then figure out a plan. We've gone through the ups and downs and we are not leaving the program.

AHS's claims process is easy if it’s something they’re able to find a service provider to fix the issue. The contractor who came for my AC issue was very responsive and got it fixed. However, it’s difficult when they couldn’t get anybody to fix your item. You need to get it fixed yourself, pay for it upfront, and then they'll reimburse you. I have a JennAir stove that was relatively old, but it was specific to our setup, however, the part wasn’t available. AHS said that they'd give me the cost of the part towards the purchase of a new JennAir. They were gonna give me a couple of hundred bucks, but it’s a $3,000 stove. That doesn’t help me.
AHS needs a bigger network of service providers with people who are willing to work on more than just specific products. A couple of times, people have come out and said that they don't work on my type of dishwasher. I asked, "Why did AHS send you?" There’s a little bit of disconnect there. I’ve had people come from 200 miles away because they were the closest person who was willing to even touch my equipment. Then when they get here, they'd say that they don't have the parts for the repair. Then the claim goes back to AHS. Then, I have to go find parts, pay for them myself, and pay for somebody to install them. I then have to make a claim back to AHS, which doesn’t make any sense.

When the tech came out, he said the water wasn’t coming from the AC. He said they usually have the condensation directed out into a bathroom but they didn’t do it in this case. They had it directed outside and it happens to come out right where the air conditioner unit is, so it’s pouring out there right on the ground next to the air conditioner unit. He said the water is supposed to vent out somewhere and that’s where they have it venting out. So there wasn’t anything to be done, but it was a good enough experience.

3 Brothers came out as scheduled, opened the back of the dryer up and cleaned out a clog in the dryer where the lint comes out. They then said everything was good. I said, "Okay." The next day, I washed a load of clothes, put it in the dryer, went through the dry cycle, opened it up, and it was still wet. I put it on a different cycle and went through the second cycle, but it was still mostly wet. One more time, I put it on high heat a second time and it dried enough that I could put it on hangers. In Texas, we've got high humidity down by the Gulf Coast.
I called the contractor and said that the dryer was not working. They said that they were going to order a timer. I said the clothes were running through the timer on the cycles, but it was not drying. The guy said that the timer has to do with the computer, which has to do with telling the clothes to dry. He said that they were going to order the part and get with me as soon as the part comes in. They have not contacted me back yet. They were here on the 28th and I can understand at taking weeks and days to get a part.
I'm not thrilled with 3 Brothers. In the past, they have done other things here at the house and they've done a good job. This time, they didn't. They should have checked other things with their tools. Most electronics can be kept with different meters. They also never turned the dryer on after they cleaned the clog out. I don't feel that they did everything that they could do to determine that the problem was solved. They just assumed that it was solved. Moreover, the clog wasn't that bad.
When I tried to call them back repeatedly, nobody answered the phone. I left a message and said that I gave them a really good rating with my survey from AHS, but I was fixing to go back and take it back if I don't hear from somebody. Several hours later, I called again and a man answered. I told him who I was and he said he'd have the technician call me and hung up. He did not say sorry or that they'd get it taken care of right away. The way he responded to me was not professional. We love AHS. They do great work. We've raised 10 kids and they were raised with AHS and most of them have it.

I had an icemaker claim with Home Shield and the first time Hotshot came out, the gentleman was about two hours late. I had to call to ask if he was coming and he said he got held up. Then, he just fixed the piece and left. He was very quick, very quiet, and I thought he was very professional at first, but they were late. He came out on a Thursday and by Friday, I called and said my ice maker was not working. The rep checked the schedule and said they would have somebody come out here Monday. Again, they were late. They were supposed to be here between 3:00 and 5:00 and they didn't show up till 7:00. Then, they walked in and they couldn't fix it because they didn't have a part. They said they would let me know when they have the part.
The next day, their rep called me and said they've got an appointment for me. I got a text saying which day and the timeframe they were supposed to be here. Then, I got a call at 8 o'clock at night and I missed it but their guy showed up at my house and it was 8:40 at night. I let him in and I was almost not willing to but it was the same crew, so I recognized them. I told him I thought he made a mistake. I pulled up my phone and showed him the appointment time. He said that what was sent to me was wrong. Then, he said to give the icemaker 24 hours to make ice.
The next morning, when I woke up, I called and said it wasn't making ice. The rep put me on hold and talked to the boss. She came back and told me there was nothing more they could do and that I could request somebody else. I would never want them to come back to my home. I was really perturbed when they showed up at 8:40 at night and they were late consistently. I asked Home Shield to make sure they never send this company out to my home again. I've had other technicians and companies come by and they were very professional, wonderful, and great. It takes a long time to get in touch with somebody at Home Shield during this crisis so I'll have to be really careful. But at this point, they've done what they were supposed to do when I called.

My husband and I just moved into the home and we needed five or six doors rekeyed. It was for three exterior doors and two sliding glass doors. So we called American Home Shield and Key’D UP Locksmith came out to my residence. The guy came and said that he couldn't do sliding glass doors and the doorknobs were too old for him to rekey and suggested for us to buy new knobs that had all these features and the key would go on the back.
The guy was very professional and I would definitely use him again if I needed keys changed. He came in with a mask on, but he was trying to deal with it, which was unfortunate that I had a couple of contractors coming out that same day. But he was fine to deal with. But I had paid the $75 and expected the man to be able to come and change my locks, only for him to say that he could not.
We have dogs and we have just moved into the house, so we’re not familiar with the area. We're also first-time homebuyers. So I just took his words for it. I kept trying to get ahold of AHS and tell them exactly what the guy had said to me. It was hard getting to AHS during that day so we just went to Home Depot and bought knobs and we just changed the doorknobs and keys ourselves.

I use Home Shield because they do a great job. They do really fast. And the other thing is because I’m not in the site. I’m not in Myrtle Beach where my condo is. I’m in North Carolina. If I need something, the only thing I have to do is make a phone call and Home Shield's guy goes over there and fixes it for me. My neighbor opened the door for the contractor to fix the air condition and he said everything is working great.
A few months ago, Home Shield sent a tech to fix the air condition because I don’t have the heater. And what happened was, the guy from that company fixed the heater and disconnected the air condition. He disconnected all the wires or he connected something wrong. I only had the heater. And now, this guy who went a few days ago, said the guy who was over here did everything wrong. He disconnected the air condition and he connected directly only the heater. He did a really bad job.
And the first time, when he got in, he didn’t talk to anybody. He just got in. He didn’t say, “Good morning.” He went into the machine inside the apartment, did something with the wires, and then went outside and left. He didn’t let me know, “Sir, I finished my job. Try," or, “Sir, I finished. Everything is okay.” When I went to see, “Where is the guy?” my wife said, “I don’t know. He hasn't come back yet.” When I went outside, he was in his truck and he left. I followed him with my car and said, “Sir, hold on. What happened with my air condition? Did you already fix it?” He said, “Everything is done” and he kept driving. I said, “Sir, can you stop and let me know?”
And then I asked him, “Did you already try? Did it work?” He said, “I'm not supposed to do that. I come to fix and not to try.” What? When you fix something, you have to try if your job is okay or at least everything is working. He said, “I'm not supposed to come back. I only come to fix the air condition. I didn’t come here to try if it’s working or not.” Can you believe that? And then he didn’t want to stop.
I had to call the air condition company. I said, “Sir, this happened with your guy. I need him back to my apartment and try if everything what he did is working good or not.” And the company called him on the radio and said, “You have to come back and show him everything is working.” He was really mad with me. And then when he went inside, he tried the air condition. It was working, and then he left. He didn’t say anything. I understand now why he didn’t want to come back because he did everything wrong.
I already called the company yesterday. I said, “I need a letter, what the guy did.” Because the new guy who fixed the unit two weeks ago said he did everything wrong. He’s the same company, American Comfort, but he said he did everything wrong. I need a letter from the company I will send to Home Shield because I need my $100 back. I paid for something that was perfectly working. The tech broke it. I tried to reach the company because I paid twice for the same thing. Home Shield takes another $100 and then they go to fix it. They're supposed to be okay because the air condition was working before. Home Shield did a great job, but the contractor did a really bad job.

Home Shield does a wonderful job. They had to replace my water heater and the only thing I had to pay for was the upgrade. They also replaced the faucet in the kitchen more than once and the garbage disposal. Also, I've had them look at the lights. The only negative was last summer when they sent somebody out for my AC unit. The unit kept going out and they kept sending somebody out and replacing a part. It was horrible. Finally, a guy from a company in Forest Park went out here. He wired some stuff to the bottom and to the top like putting pieces together. After being with Home Shield for over 20 years, they got their money right out of me that instead of keep piecing that thing together, replace it.
Other than that, they did everything else according to the terms of the contract. And they don't have any problems with getting the appointment. My most recent claim was when the spin of my washing machine was horrible. It was loud. I had to go hold the machine down and the machine was turning sideways as much as it could. The young man from Rocket Repair got it working right. He showed me how to do the legs and check the legs myself and he washed a few clothes. He did everything to check and make sure everything was right.

I was not happy with the contractor All American Services. Last Saturday when the appointment was made, I did not hear "from 8:00 to 1:00". I heard my appointment time was at 1:00. I even repeated it and the rep said yes. I also told her we had been without air for a week and I asked her if they had cancellations and whether I could get in earlier if they did. She snipped me and said this schedule was a cancellation. But how was I supposed to know this was a cancellation? I just thanked her and hung up.
Then they texted on Saturday morning and said the tech was en route. I didn't check my phone until 9:00 and when I looked at the phone, it said the technician had gone. But if he drove this far, saw two cars in the driveway then rang the bell and no one answered, why didn't he knock on the door? I would not have left knowing people are suffering without air without knocking. The rep claimed the tech came. But I told her no, that she couldn't tell me he came and didn't knock, especially when they knew we were expecting them. I did not expect him at 8:30 in the morning. And besides, how were they even gonna give me an appointment at 8:30 and he was done at 8:10? I called Home Shield and said I don't like this company. I told them what happened and I was livid because we were still without air. I told them there was nothing they could do because the contractor was closed. Home Shield just apologized. That didn't help me any.
Today, the technician came back and I was very disappointed when he told me that he couldn't fix the unit. He said that it needs to have a part replaced and he would have to call and get authorization. Right now, the unit is leaking Freon and he says it's blocked somewhere in there, which is the reason we are not getting any air. We have been suffering for almost two weeks now because we had to wait a week to get in the first week. So we are not happy. Now, I'm just gonna wait and see what happens – If the contractor can get authorization to fix it and then go on. If they can't, I don't know what we're gonna do. Another thing is that even before COVID came along, you could call Home Shield on the phone and be on hold forever to get someone on the phone. That's not good customer service.

Leo Tech quickly came to check what the problem was with the washing machine, which was making a noise. The word the contractor used was normal wear and tear and that some parts needed to be changed. They reported to AHS, and AHS came to the conclusion that the part cannot be replaced because the company had discontinued that model. They replaced the washing machine. They gave me the options and I picked the first option they gave us. But there were a few changes. We wanted to have a different color and we wanted to have a little bit of what we call a pedestal on the top of it. I had to pay for that one, but they replaced the machine.

Our AC wasn't working appropriately. Come to find out, the fan was stuck from wintertime. Submitting a claim to AHS was really easy. I put in the call on a Friday night. But they didn't get back to me until I called them on Tuesday 'cause of the holiday. It would have been within one business day, but due to the holiday weekend, there was a time delay. I don't blame them for that. The contractors fixed it right away too.
However, AHS needs to start covering a little bit more stuff. I recommended them to my aunt who had the house and she had some issues with them covering things for her, to the point that she ended up canceling service with them. Because they just would never cover the things that she needed covered, even though she was under the impression that things were all taken care of with her plan.
Sometimes, I pay 75 bucks, and then it's an issue. Like we had an issue with our garage door was broken. We didn't know what was going on with it so, I called them. Somebody came out. They sent somebody from the other side of the state, which I don't understand that because we live in one of the bigger cities of Iowa. When they got there, they told us that one of our springs were broken for our garage door and refused to do any other work 'till we paid for the spring. We needed a new garage door opener. The unit itself was burnt out. They said, "We're not gonna cover this 'till you pay for the spring." The problem with that was we didn't have an extra 200 bucks that day to get the spring fixed. So, we just paid for a local company to come and repair everything. It cost us $700. So, most of that should've been covered.
When you pay that much money for an insurance, just in case, when you actually need them, they put too little stipulations on everything. "We'll cover it," but even if my AC woulda been out, they only cover $10 of the Freon to replace it. The most difficult part is getting somebody to talk to. Because they prefer to do everything online. So, if I try to call in for any reason, it's really difficult to get somebody on the line. But overall, we had a pretty decent coverage with them for most things. There were some times we had to use them. Like our water heater went out and they replaced everything. Had we not had them, we would have been in trouble because we didn't have the money to come up with, 800 bucks. They did do a lot and I appreciate the service we had with them.

I called American Home Shield and made a claim for the spa. They forwarded me to Emerald Pools. My pool pump goes out just about every other year and lately, every year. I gave that concern to them. And because of the whole coronavirus and what was going on, the rep asked how it runs. I said that it seemed like the hotter the summer, the louder the pump runs. Then, she asked if no one has ever redone the pipes besides the pump itself and she said that could have a lot to do with it. She said sometimes there can be buildups in the pipe that can restrict water flow and those buildups can cause the pumps to burn out. She was very helpful as to asking me a lot of questions and more of a description of how my pump runs.
Then, the techs came out and they redid the pipes on it. It was a PVC pipe and they said because of the coronavirus, their warehouse was backed up for a couple of months and they were gonna make sure to do what they could. I came home from work and they had given me a brand new housing and a new pump and they redid all my pipes. I was very glad for that. The rep also said that it should last me for at least three years, hopefully, longer. They did a really good job.
But I'm not fully satisfied with Home Shield. The pool pump goes out every year and every year, I would get the same service. Also, when I make a claim, I don’t want different people every time. I want somebody that I know is gonna come out and do what needs to be done. A company would come out but they wouldn’t really talk to me about it. Then, I would call the next year and Home Shield would send me to somebody else. So I have another company coming out saying that the last company was wrong. And there were times where I got into arguments over a guy coming out and I just send them off.
I have had different people come out for my heater. The last guy came out, took my heater apart, and didn’t put all the parts back. He left it on my roof. Then, my AC guy came out and he said he couldn't touch it. It was the middle of summer. He said whoever came out before him took it all apart. I had to turn around, find a heater person to come out, and try to make a claim with what was going on and how it was left. He said the guy probably forgot to do it. From what we saw, it looked like it was kind of in pieces.
It’s give or take but I’m not a person to go to work and spend my money on repeated service that should have been taken care of the first time. And that’s what a lot of our service with American Home Shield has been. I was even looking to go elsewhere. But the lady managed to convince me. She told me about their special if it was other appliances that I'm worried about being covered and she saved me almost $18 a month. My monthly copay goes up because I got an upgrade but I don’t wanna continue fighting with service people when they come out. It’s like I’m trying to tell them what’s wrong and what’s going on and they just don’t hear me.
I really made it a fight to find companies who’s willing to help because I just need things taken care of so maybe I can have a year or two of a break instead of paying 100 bucks here and there out-of-pocket every time I call Home Shield. Even though my payment is $58, I paid $300 as the copay because the first person who came out didn’t do a good job. Now, I’m having to do it again.

I have two air conditioners and the one upstairs wasn't running all the time. It wasn't getting cool and was getting hotter. Last year, I had an air conditioner man come out with American Shield who looked at it and he was outside for two minutes. He said it was fine and that it was because I live above my garage. But I told him that the air conditioner had never been that hot. So, he put a new thermostat and said that it should be good. But it didn't and it was almost winter at the time.
Then, when I used it this year, it was hotter. I submitted a claim with AHS and they sent out a tech from ES Heating & Air. He looked at the AC really well and nicely. He said that the Freon or antifreeze wasn't very low but there was just a little of it. He put some of that in and said that should do it. And he didn't charge me for the Freon. Then he waited, and it was nice and cool up there. He was very good and we hadn't had any problems since the repair. Aside from that, when he was here, I asked him if he was going to wear a mask when he comes in and if he will put something on his shoe. He said yes and he did all of that. He was very professional, too. He knew what he was doing, took care of the problem, and explained what he did to me. I would recommend him to anybody. I also liked that he gave me the paperwork because a lot of techs don't do that, which I find weird.
Other than that, AHS has always been good to me and I recommended four friends to them this year. They love American Home Shield but a lot of them are old-school like me. If I have something that needs to be serviced, I do it online, but sometimes I wanna ask them questions about something and I can't get ahold of them. It's very difficult to speak to a rep and my friend told me that he couldn't get through either. If you want to talk to someone, their chat is on. But if you try to call them, you can never get them on the phone. That is frustrating to me and when you have to stay on the phone for two hours, that's ridiculous. Maybe AHS needs more help or they need to structure something because that's a way to lose a lot of people.
Aside from that, I don't like to make my appointments over the phone and have somebody come because someone came here last year that I didn't like at all. And if I find somebody that I liked, I would ask for him if I could when something happens to my air conditioner. But despite that, when I got to talk to someone, the reps that I talked to were very nice and very professional.

I will start with the fact that I have been a loyal customer of AHS for over 10 years. I have a Viking Professional built in refrigerator freezer that has had a persistent problem with the automatic defrost system, AHS has sent several technicians out to resolve the problem to no resolution. Each time it is some lame explanation that shows they have no clue. As of the last visit I have tried to contact AHS to get a no kidding Viking expert and I can't even speak with a human as I stay on hold for hours over the past five days. Maybe it's time to stop paying the $60.00/month and go find a warranty service that takes care of their customers.

AHS sent out Doctor Cool and they turned out to be pretty good. I was a little concerned at first because they discovered an issue that was not covered under the home warranty, which caused me almost $600. The reasoning for not covering it was that when that service was performed by the previous owner, it was not done properly. I knew that to be a caution about these things because I know when they contract with home warranty companies, their reimbursements are limited. But I had to have air conditioning. I went two days without air conditioning and in Vegas, we can’t do that.
I had subsequent problem since then and I’ve had them out under the warranty work that they had done initially, so I’m feeling better about them now. I definitely like the repairman that had done the work most recently. So I may end up using them for routine maintenance as well. The repairman made all the difference. He was very personable, respectful, spent time explaining things to me, and checked a couple of things that kinda went above and beyond. The people you deal with face to face made the difference and kind of turned it around.

We had them for a whole year when we bought the house and then I canceled it for a little while after that. But I realized that I was better off with them than without them. I went back and signed back up. This is our second year and when I had a claim, everything with Lancaster Plumbing was great. We have a little closet and when you open the door, it's up off the ground and the unit is inside this closet. Underneath the closet is the air filter that you change your filter out on and when you pull that down to change out the filter, there's a big opening behind that. It's big enough for three people to fit into. That was leaking.
So I had Lancaster come out. The runoff pipe that goes outside ended up being clogged. They replaced a pipe for me, unclogged it and put some bleach down there. They told me to pour a cup of bleach down there every couple of months to keep it from clogging up. It was a father-and-son team that came out and they were nice to talk to. They were very professional and polite. They did their job and told me that if anything happened or if they needed to come back out, to let them know.

I started the claim in January and one company had come out and said that they were gonna order the part that they needed, but they never did. They had sent me emails that they would be back and they had left voice messages. I was communicating with them over a period of about five months and it was getting obnoxious. I finally gave them a warning. I told them that if they can't get back to me within a day or two, then I'm going to return to American Home Shield and file a complaint, and I did.
It took me several tries to finally get American Home Shield to agree to send me out a new tech company to address the problem without having to pay the service fee again, which I did find a principle, I wouldn’t pay, and they finally did. So it all got resolved in the end. It was not an easy process for me. I joined as a real estate agent and I referred them many, many times to all those customers, and I felt that that was such a negative experience for me.
ANC Pool was great. They were pleasant. They had to order a part and they did. They were back within a week and got it up and running. They were on time. They did the job to my satisfaction. Everything was fine. But I did have one issue. American Home Shield promised that when they scheduled them to come out that I would not receive a service charge. I did receive an invoice for a bill for that to which I called back and waited an hour and a half to speak to someone. They finally took another hour and a half of putting me on hold and checking and checking and checking. So it literally was almost three hours of my time to avoid the $75 charge, which they claimed that they waived.
All in all, my experience with ANC Pool was good. My experience with the previous company they sent me was bad. And my experience with American Home Shield's customer service was awful. I asked several times during this process to speak to a supervisor who could authorize a return visit because they were saying it was past 30 days, and therefore, the case was closed. I told them, “No, it wasn’t that because the pool company that they had sent me was saying that the part wasn’t available. They would pick it up. They would come back on this date, on that date, and they were the ones in writing and over the phone who said that they were dragging this out over several months. So, as far as I was concerned, it never was a closed case.”
Trying to talk to some of the agents on American Home Shield was frustrating beyond belief getting someone who could actually understand what I was saying and sympathize with what I was saying, and agree that it should be overlooked that it was more than 30 days for a callback. I eventually was successful but not without hours of effort on my part and frustration. This experience was awful but every other claim I've had with American Home Shield had been pleasant or reasonable. So this one particular case seemed to be something that their agents on the telephone couldn’t handle properly and refused to give me a supervisor who could after several calls.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

But then there was some kind of payment pending thing on my account so I couldn’t put the call in again until I called Home Shield, and then it took 24 hours to get that removed. My system is cooling now but my concern is that this is the same call that I did at the latter part of last year and they just tacked the area rather than truly repaired or replaced. That is concerning for me because I've had this home warranty for quite a while and I seldom use it. I pay a good amount too. Then you also have to pay a trade fee for each and every little thing. I talked to American Home Shield and that’s how I even managed to get the person back out again. But they wanted to charge another charge. The issue wasn't ever resolved from last year though, and I knew that even more fully when the first person came out.
Also, the person did whatever he did and I was sitting in the house, waiting and thinking he was gonna call me to say he was about to come in and talk to me about what went on. I did get a call but he was already gone and rather than talk to me, he told me that it was a wire that was unhooked. But that was the same wire that was unhooked last year. Why didn't they repair? I’m imagining that he took the wires and attached them again to each other rather than putting a wire that’s truly covered with the kind of covering a wire should have. I’ve been a little beside myself about that. I've had air conditioning problems before and had a service person come. And the service person usually does a more thorough job in diagnosis rather than just go right outside and see whatever. They usually are supposed to start on the inside. They go up into the attic and look at the thermostats to make sure that it's cooling in the house.
American Home Shield also actually sent a different contractor out from the one that came last year. So there ended up having to be two technicians from the second contractor. The first contractor did like the last contractor. He did it quickly and he left before coming in and talking to me about what was going on. I also didn't like that American Home Shield attempted to have me tell them what was wrong. I have two units that comprise my system that heat and cool zones in my house and what they tried to do was get me to diagnose if it's the left side or the right side so that they don't have any liability if the left side goes out. But if the system is not balanced, it’s going to trip up the other one eventually anyway. So my air conditioning is not working properly. I understand giving them an idea of what my issue is but they want me to be very narrow so they can be very narrow and then charge me a service fee again.
I can tell a difference in the level of service they're trying to provide for their warranty holders. They used to be thorough in what they send the people out to do. Now, they're limiting the people so much. American Home Shield is being very much a stickler with contractors about what they're allowed to do. They're wanting contractors to do piece-work rather than truly replace the component if that's what needs to be done. As a holder, I'm paying a premium every month. The warranty should cover if my system has a major problem and they have to replace some things. If they're going to be that chintzy about a wire, what if I have issues with the internal parts? In fact, I did have an issue the first year that I had it and there was a fair diagnosis. American Home Shield replaced a compressor. As opposed to a compressor, this time, the issue is a wire outside and they're gonna be chintzy about it? It's not a large part that's very expensive.
I also had a plumbing issue and I stayed on the phone over two hours. When I initially called, it was about to be 6:00 and it was during the shelter in place so I understand that the service providers and maybe some of their call center people were out or they may have been working from home. But those two hours weren't straight two hours. That was being on the line for about 45 minutes, waiting for someone to pick up and come on, and then being dropped. I could even tell that I was shifted to an after-hours center and it sounded as if that was a very remote call center, maybe in the Pacific countries. So the second time that I got someone, the call held on until it was going to shift to that call area so I held on again and eventually got someone.
I told them my issue then we got disconnected. I had explained at length what was going on but rather than them equipping their people to call their holder back, I had to get on the queue again and sit for a very long time to get someone. They even had my telephone number. So I’d already been in the queue twice for a very long time. Then I had to explain my situation all over again to another individual. I asked for a manager supervisor to resolve my issue because it seemed that the first or the second agent was not empowered to check it any further. The issue was my plumbing and I didn’t have a way to bathe or use the bathroom, and this was right in the midst of COVID so it was very important.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

I lived in Arkansas for 20 years and I built a new home there in 1999. I went with American Home Shield and I kept it. But then, I moved to Texas about a year and a half ago. When I moved, the seller provided me a home warranty for a year. But that was the worst experience I've ever had. We bought this house in January a year ago. So, when that year was up, I went back with American Home Shield.
Recently, the contractors that came for our AC claim did great. They told me when they'd be here and they showed up at that time. We thought we knew what the problem was. Part of the unit's in the attic and we had a leak in the ceiling. We thought it was the drain may be stopped up. They went in there and immediately found the problem. The drain was stopped up. They cleaned it out and were gone in less than 30 minutes.

The Watertight Pool guy adjusted a leak I had, but he was pretty new. I don't have any problems with a new person, but when he looked at the issue and I was trying to explain it, it didn't seem like it was getting through. I left it at that and I don't know if the issue was really addressed or not. I've called my own personal guys out sometimes and I may do that just to make sure.
I purchased the house about two and a half years ago. I knew that it was at that age where there possibly could be some things going on, which was why I renewed. A few years ago, before I had the coverage, I paid for something and thought, "Well, shoot." I had a friend in Waco and she had AHS. She has had a little more success. My impression is that I'm okay with AHS. I've kinda figured out what it is. Everything is gonna wear out over time and I'm getting the impression that we fix it if we can, but if we can't, then it'll be replaced. There are some exclusions that are very unfortunate to me, but it is what it is.
I like how quick and easy it is to file a claim. They have contracts with all different vendors. You can't just have anybody that's gonna do the work and I like that. Initially, when I filed a claim and I was given some options. I don't remember that happening on my last claim so it may be specific to the kind of evaluation I requested. I put in pump, but it was really my in-ground floor suction system. That may have limited my ability to choose from a couple of vendors. Also, when the rep called, she said that she wasn't sure if it was covered, but they'd come out and look. I told her that it was really not the pump that I'm wondering about, it was something else. I work in insurance, so I don't get as startled as some others. But if I hadn't been 27 years in insurance, it probably would have concerned me.

My last appliance claim with American Home Shield for a microwave issue went very well. Sears came to do service and the techs from there were very polite. The first day they came, one young man came alone. He was at our place for an hour as he had to take the microwave apart and put it back. The second time Sears came, there were two techs and the previous tech sounded like he was training the other young man who came with him. They took the microwave apart again, put in the new part and took the old one out. They were very conscious of my husband who is ill. They wore their masks and maintained social distancing. Each time, the job was done as quickly as they could do it.

AHS's claims process was a piece of cake and I was pleasantly surprised. I filed the claim at midday and got a text update not too long after that. Then within a couple of hours, I got a notification of the company that would be contacting me and they came the very next morning. The techs were right on time. There’s a copper line that goes from the inside unit to the outside unit. A crack had formed on the top of it and there was oil dripping on the inside unit. I covered with them what the feedback was and they took a look at it. They were quick and got it fixed. Our units were actually in the garage. The techs came in for us to explain the issue and to sign the final paper when they were done. It was a seamless experience. We've had AHS for two years and this was the first time we've used it. I was a little bit surprised at how quickly everything got done. The fact that it was all taken care of in less than 24 hours was impressive.

The contractor came in and found the problem, which was a switch. He had the part in his truck. He was in and out in less than 30 minutes and my washing machine was working great. I've had AHS for 28 years and they've done a lot for me. When we purchased this house, the people who were here before gave us AHS as part of the deal and we kept it. I've used it several times and everything we've ever asked them to do, they've done. They fixed heaters and water heaters. They've also replaced the piping in my wall. However, it sometimes takes a little while longer than I like. Sometimes, scheduling isn't always easy because I work and being home sometimes waiting for somebody to be here is a pain. Other than that, things have worked out really well.
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I’ve promoted AHS several times, and other people have actually added them to their homes. I’ve been with them for a good 18 years. Before I got married, I had a pier and beam house. At that point, I was single, and I didn’t have a lot of money other than my own income, and a little bit of student debt. Their charge back then was 25 bucks for anybody that came. When I was at the house, they fully repaired and replaced an air conditioner. I was paying 25 bucks a month and it paid itself off every year. Then their prices started increasing, but not too much. They’re just 69 a month so it’s not breaking the bank. Now, I’m more established. I got my degree and a little debt, so the price doesn’t hurt me. The only thing that I have seen within the few years being now in a new house is that the fees are $75 now for a contractor to come in and work, but they’ve eliminated some of the stuff that they used to do.
If you have a leak, it has to be this particular leak. If a plumber comes in, they can only go so deep into the line inside the house. So I'm like, “How do I know how deep the line’s gonna be to my toilet from the outside of it?” That stuff I don’t know, but if the plumber comes, I still get charged $75 regardless if they could do anything or not.
Next Generation’s service was good, though. The tech came on time. Nothing could be done because, apparently, what they needed to do was give me more Freon, and American Home Shield didn’t supply it. The other option was I pay for it. It was just too much to pay, so I was like, “Never mind. I’ll have to think of something else.” But I watched the tech. He parked on my drive, which is not typical. Most service people will park on the road and then walk up. He checked the outside. I went outside to see what he was doing and I could see him actually testing. He had his little tools out.
It’s a bummer AHS didn’t cover my Freon. But could they give me something else in relation to it, like a discount with Next Gen, or different options? That would have been better because I wouldn’t have had to pay that full price for that Freon that the tech was saying, “I could get some today. We still have some.” But I was really impressed that he didn’t just try to sell a unit. A lot of them will try to sell, “Here’s all this information. It costs $5,000 for a new unit,” That’s why I have this insurance for a little while. I can’t say that Next Generation were 100% on the mark, though. Communication was a little off. But for the most part, they were okay. They told me what I probably thought that was gonna happen. The tech was also fully suited in reference to COVID and I was happy that he did that.
They were pretty safe, and so was David’s company. He has been my appliance guy, and they are super. Theirs is a family-owned business and David is the owner. AHS gets family-owned businesses and that’s cool, too. They're giving back to the community. David was just amazing. I had a lot of work done in the last couple of weeks. This guy has fixed my washer and dryer, refrigerator, oven, and microwave.
This last time, his brother-in-law came down ‘cause he’s with the family business as well. He took apart the door oven. The only thing that was broken was the handle to open the oven, and that’s just been a constant with this unit that I’ve had just ‘cause they put the cheapest units in our houses now. All my mom was gonna do was just clean the surface of it. But he took it all apart and gave her the actual glass to clean it while he fixed my refrigerator. He put it all back in. I was like, “How do you do that? How can you have so much patience to pull that glass out?” There were two panes within a pane, and I’m like, “That’s amazing. I wouldn’t have known how to put it together.”
He goes, “I knew I had time to do the refrigerator while I was doing this. So, it’s no problem at all. I’ll get it all.” With that business right there, I’m pretty sure he’s asked to come everywhere. But in between, they teach you. He taught me how to put the hinge in if I wanna take it out to clean it again, or even the surface of it, or clean the inside. He said, “You can take it out really easily, set it aside, and clean the oven.” I’m like, “That’s what I love. Give me a real tidbit to make it better.” That’s the one company that sticks out. They’re just wham, bam, the best.

I mainly had a clogged pipe issue that led to a leak. I went online and submitted a claim. It was great. I was told a contractor would come within two business days. And then, when High Priority came, great service. The tech was actually finished quicker than I thought he would. The bathroom upstairs is just fine. My showerhead still drips after you turn the water off, which I've submitted another claim for the contractor to come out and look at which the service provider had already forewarned me that he was able to clean everything out but he already made provisions to order the necessary parts in the event it started dripping like that again after we turn the water off. I appreciated that he made me aware that it was still likely that it could start dripping again and he took the necessary photos and made the necessary notes in the event I called back.

We just bought a house and we got Home Shield because it was a new house and we figured to have it to work out the kinks. The service has been good but we had a pool heater that went and we kinda got screwed around. We had someone and they didn't wanna pay that person to do the repair, so they told me they had somebody else. It took two to three months when I thought it was gonna take two weeks. That was a little frustrating. But when it's all said and done, it was rectified. They replaced the pool heater although Home Shield only replaced it up to a certain amount of money and I still had to pay on top of it. Also, I've had Air & Water Solutions here more than once and they were really good. They came out recently because we had one unit stopped working. It was a blown circuit and the tech fixed it. He came out, mask and everything, and he did a great job.

We've been with American Home Shield for at least 18 years but we're getting ready to drop it. I've always been satisfied with them but right now, I'm very dissatisfied. We called Loyal Home Services to come out because our AC was not cooling. My wife submitted the claim online at 6:00 and about 9 o’clock the technician called and asked what the problem was and said that he was coming the next day. It was the most responsive service we've ever had from American Home Shield. The technician was excellent. He said that American Home Shield was only gonna pay $300 of the issue. We'd be out $1,100. Since it was gonna be $1,100 and it was on a hodgepodge work that had been done prior by American Home Shield service people that we decided just to scrap the whole thing and just get a brand-new unit and put it in.
We put in another call because our dishwasher went down and the appliance repair company took two days to get here. They came in and they said that the motherboard was bad and it was not available so somebody would contact me within three days. But nobody contacted me and we were just without a dishwasher for a week. I called American Home Shield and I made three calls where I spent 35 minutes on hold and never ever spoke to somebody. Of course, I was told that due to COVID they were experiencing longer calls. I don't care. I was aggravated. Nobody from American Home Shield has ever called me.
I called the appliance people because it had been a whole week. I wanted to know what they would do. I finally got ahold of the appliance people who were very rude. Nobody called and I didn't know what was going on. Their rep said that they found the part. So I asked when would they come out to put it in. She said that it was gonna be seven to ten days. That was unacceptable since it had already been a week. Then she asked me what I wanted her to do and said that they didn't manufacture the parts. We kept going back and forth and I realized that it was just one of AHS' vendors. So, finally, I said, “Okay, ma’am. It is what it is. Thank you.” We hung up. I then got a voicemail from her saying, “Oh, well, the part is gonna be in this Friday, so we'll schedule you for next Monday. Call me back.” So, I called them back. Now we have an appointment for this coming Monday.

Air Pro Master came out for my air conditioner. The tech was gonna check both units but he only checked the one that was broken. He fixed it but the other one is sounding very loud now. He said he was in a rush and that kinda irritated me because for $100, he could’ve checked the other one to see if it was okay or if it was running properly.
When I had a claim for my microwave before, I was very unhappy with the company. At the time, I was going back and forth to work so I relied on my microwave quite a bit because I didn't come home and cook. I just brought food home and heat it up. So when it went out, I thought they would get somebody out here to fix it right away. The microwave was about 16 years old and when that company came out, they took a look at it but they couldn't find the part. So the tech said he had to wait on American Home Shield to okay anything before he could do anything. But that didn’t make sense to me.
I called back complaining to customer service and she said, “I’m sorry. That’s just the way it is.” She ended up hanging up on me in the midst of my speaking to her. So I called back and said that I was a little upset because my microwave wasn't working and asked her why would she hang up on me? She hung up on me again. When I called back, she wouldn’t pick up the phone, so I used my husband’s phone, called back, then she picked up. When she found out it was me, she hung up again. I told her that I wanna speak to her manager and I wanna know what her name was. But I didn't get any satisfaction. So I told the people at American Home Shield I don’t wanna deal with that company. I told them that if they ever sent that company back out to me again, I would drop them. They said they would put that in our records. So it was a very bad experience.
I’ve never had a company that was that insensitive. They’re gonna get irate customers but I didn't use any profanity. I didn't scream and holler. I was just very firm in speaking with her as to my dissatisfaction on them. It took them over a week to fix my microwave. American Home Shield said they were gonna call those people and get them to come back right away, but that didn't happen. I had to go out and buy a small microwave. So it left a very bad taste in my mouth.
I also had a plumbing claim for my osmosis. When the guy came out here, he fixed the faucet that comes from the sink. However, it wasn’t flushed to the base so every time I turned on this osmosis, it would come away from the base and the entire thing would move over. So it wasn’t fixed well at all. Also, American Home Shield stopped covering the water softener. I chose not to take out the warranty from the store because I thought it was under my warranty, but only to find out it’s not. I was very upset because mine is broken and I’m gonna have to come out of pocket because they chose to not cover that. But other than those things, I haven’t had to call too much, which is a good thing because it’s $100 a pop every time you call. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

The water went through the condenser and it had gathered in the tray under the water heater. I went through online at Home Shield and I put in a request. Immediately, within a couple of minutes, I got a call. They gave me a reference number and I called United Air Temp because the alarm was going out and it was driving me nuts. All they did was empty that water and clean the hose. They were pretty good but they should have told me that water was actually coming from the air conditioner, not from the water heater.
The next time again, the condenser had frozen. I called Home Shield and they referred me to Quality Experts and they came through. The guy checked and said that it was frozen that was why the AC was not working. They asked me to turn off the main switch from the outside and turn the air condition on with just the air, and it just sort of de-iced the ice. The guy put in four gallons of gas. He told me that because my system was very old, he asked me if I wanted to change it, and I did. Now, they’re installing the new system. They were excellent.

I had my daughter put in a claim for the AC unit because when I was sitting out in the backyard it made a funny sound. It doesn’t do it all the time, and I told her maybe we should have it checked. I got a call right away and the time for the repair was set up. The contractor came right away and explained everything. He said it was just getting old. He also explained to me how our home warranty will work if it goes completely out versus if we just replaced it, because that’s why we have home warranty. He was mostly outside so he did fine with COVID precautions. Any time we had someone come through AHS they’ve always been very good and very prompt.

Even though I’m retired, it’s annoying being on the phone with American Home Shield for an hour until someone picks up, listening to the same music and every few minutes it comes back and says, “We appreciate your loyalty. All our associates are busy, we will be with you as soon as possible.” When I call American Airlines and they’re really busy, they would give you a timeframe if you want them to give you a callback. I don’t have to sit with the phone waiting for someone to call me. But when I submitted a claim online to AHS for the dishwasher, I was able to get through the website easily. I was told to expect the contractor between 11:00 to 2:30 and he was here at around 1:00. The contractor was very good and I have no complaints at all.
The door couldn’t stand and there was a cord that holds it with this plastic piece on it. We’ve had the door fixed three times but this was the first time that he gave me the piece and showed it to me, and how it broke. He replaced that piece and now it works. He left the part, we could see what was wrong and explained how it goes out periodically. The design by the manufacturer of the trade was poor. We’ve had that dishwasher for about 15 years and every five years, this nylon cable snaps. We can still use the dishwasher, but the door just hangs down and you have to lift it up and close it. The door is heavy when you don’t have that rope thing and I have back problems.
We also had two attic fans in our house for 20 years and they stopped working. The motors wore out, so AHS sent out an electrician and the first call was that it wasn’t normal wear and tear because they weren’t hardwired into my circuit breaker box. There was an issue when the company put them in. So the guy came out and he recommended that we put in a separate circuit breaker into the attic just to service the attic fans, and we did. Then, he put in a box in and he plugged the two fans into to an outlet. AHS was denying it because it wasn’t hardwired. I know something about electricity and a friend who is an electrical engineer said that’s baloney. They’re a separate circuit and it’s on the same power.
It looked like AHS was trying to get away from having to pay for it. They sent out a courtesy second opinion and I said that the fans should be covered. The decision was not to replace the fans but just the motor. AHS was gonna make me an offer. I looked at Home Depot and those fans were only $98 a piece for the power level I needed. It took them longer to change the motors than to put a whole new fan in the attic. So this experience has really bothered me because we’ve been a client for over 32 years with one gap year because we sold the house and we hadn’t bought the current house and yet, they were nickel-and-diming me over two inexpensive attic fans.

I dealt with another company when I purchase my home, but they weren't offering what I wanted. When my contract was about to expire, they went up. A friend recommended me to AHS and they offered more stuff than the other company did. AHS's website was good but when I put a claim in for my dishwasher, they must have thought I said washer. A company called and asked what problems I had with my washer. I said that it wasn't my washer and that it was my dishwasher. I had to hang up on them and call back. They told me to do another claim over the phone, which was what I did. AHS wound up charging me $100 twice, but they reimbursed me for the first one. Other than that, the service was great and I was told to expect the contractor within 24 hours.
The contractor came to do my dishwasher, which was making a noise. It also had a bad smell to it because I had unhooked it. He was very friendly. When he came, he plugged it back up and checked to make sure it wasn't leaking. He ordered the parts for it, came back last week, and put the pasts in. He also told me what I needed to do to deal with the smell. I did the vinegar but it didn't work, so just bought some cleaner and put it in the dishwasher. I noticed that he left a screw loose. I don’t know where the screw came from but the dishwasher is still working. All in all, I loved the experience.

Both gentlemen who came for my plumbing claim had been really good, but the repair took some time. The first gentleman came and looked at it. However, obtaining the part took a little over three months. My sister and I continued to keep a plastic container under the sink. We would pour that water out and put it back. When the second gentleman came out, and he looked at things, he thought he might be able to find a part here. He looked around and tried to see about that part. Finally, he was able to see a part. He had to redo what was on the upper portion of my counter to get that resolved. He knew what he was doing. He got that part, got it fixed, and it didn't take him long. AHS is is something that everybody should have because you don't know when you're going to need something. You can't just wait at the last minute and then try to see about that.

Certified Comfort Heating & Air was excellent. I loved the experience. In fact, I requested Comfort because they always do a good job on our air conditioning and heating. But sometimes, I get an operator that I disagree with. I said that I'd like to have Comfort because I like the way they work. But what's happening is that sometimes, Comfort is not in line for the next call. They say they can't do it, that they have to send someone from Concord, which is 35 miles away, or from Sacramento, which is 40 miles away. That's ridiculous when Comfort is right around the corner. If something is not fixed right or if they get the part, they can come the next day instead of going back to Sacramento and saying it will be three to five days before they come back because they're from Sacramento.
I said maybe we would move on to Frontier home warranty. I pointed out that we pay $600 a month and then we call once or twice a year. When we call, they should make the customer happy and give us the company that we want especially if they're under American Home Shield. Also, I don't like doing stuff online. I'd rather talk to someone personally. I don't even know if I can request online to have Comfort come out. That's why I'd rather speak to someone personally. But the other day, to get someone to talk to in a line, I had to wait 55 minutes. We had a dryer fixed last month and the contractor was out of Vacaville. I had to request for a contractor again and I was on the phone for about 35 minutes.
American Home Shield shouldn't keep a customer on the line for an hour. If they're not going to crack the line in 15 minutes, they should just ask the customer to leave their number and say that they will call as soon as there is an availability to return the call. Then I could put my phone on alert and do what I need to do, then they could call me half an hour later. At least I'm not having the phone to my ear or phone on speaker and taking a nap, watching the news or reading a newspaper and waiting for American Home Shield to get on the line. I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and I wanna hang on to anything for 20-plus years but it's getting worse as far as putting customers on hold. It's also getting worse as far as a customer asking for a certain contractor to work on their repair. I'm satisfied but there is room for improvement.

I’ve had my AHS warranty for about two years now and never really used it until recently. I have two outstanding work orders that I can’t seem to get any resolution with nor can I contact anyone from AHS without sitting on the phone for 45 minutes minimum. In the past two weeks, I’ve spoken to three separate representatives (so been on the phone for almost 4 hours combined) and can’t get any of the reps to do what they say they are going to do. I am going to give them one more call and opportunity to resolve my issues, otherwise I am canceling my warranty for both properties I cover.

AHS has always been great for me to use. I've had it pretty much since I bought my home but I stopped it for financial reasons. Other repair people come out and have been giving me false information trying to get me to pay more than I'm supposed to. But when AHS comes out, they're accurate and tell me the truth. I've never had a bad experience with them at all and I've been in my home for 11 years.
When I notice that my air wasn't working, I reactivated my AHS warranty and once I was able to put my claim in after the 30-day waiting period, I called in to put a claim in. They got back to me the same day, scheduled an appointment, and sent the guy out to look at my system. He said that he would come between 10:00 and 2:00. He came out around 11:45 and assessed the situation on my cooling system. When he came out to look at my system, I was under the impression that I needed a whole new system. He looked at it and said that my system was pretty new and didn't need a whole new system. He was just gonna repair what he needed to repair. I was greatly appreciative of that. He was able to repair my system and complete the work.
He was very professional and helpful. He had his gloves and mask on and did social distancing. He was working outside and came through my basement. He did what he needed to do in there and went back out the backdoor. When he was done, he telephoned me and let me know that everything was fine and that he was on his way. He then shut my door and left. I was satisfied. Now, I have my air on and keeping cool.

We had a plumbing issue and we had plumbers come out for the same exact issue. They came out for the bathtub that was leaking. When Five Star came out, they were readdressing the same issue that the plumber that we've had prior addressed. That was like the fifth visit we've had from a plumber from Home Shield. We had a plumber from them who came out, and they said that they were gonna have to completely tear down the entire wall in our guest bedroom. They were gonna have to completely redo the piping. There was 300 and something dollars’ worth of charges that American Home Shield wasn't going to be taking care of. They gave us a whole list of demands, so the landlord said, “Hey, they didn’t seem very professional.” He called Home Shield and asked if we could have Five Star come over. So, the guy from Five Star came over to look at it.
The issue that was at hand was the tub faucet was leaking very slightly. I went to tighten it to turn off the water, and it was like something snapped inside, something didn't stop working because the faucet just completely turned all the way to the right and did a full 360 to the point that the tub was spraying water as if you had it on full blast, and you couldn't turn it off. I had to turn the emergency valve outside off permanently until I got the issue addressed. The guy from Five Star fixed it. We told him, “Hey, these prior guys said that we were gonna have to completely tear down the wall and redo everything.” He was mind-boggled that they were trying to do that because he fixed it in probably 10 minutes without tearing the wall down.
He told me on several occasions he was worried that he did a bad job because of how much work the other guys said that they were gonna have to do because he said it was such an easy fix. He didn't understand why the other guys were saying something else. That was two weeks ago that he came over and we've had no issues. We use it every other day to bathe my son.
I very much enjoyed Five Star. I wasn't too fond of the company before him. He was very knowledgeable, very nice and I liked him very much. He did an awesome job. But the initial company that was sent out was dragging their feet. They told me that they couldn't get it replaced for a week and a half. They said that they couldn't order parts until a week from the day that they inspected it. I have a six-month-old, and I was gonna have to go almost two weeks without water. I even apologized because the initial company came out on Memorial Day, and they seemed super-annoyed with being out there. I thanked them and I said, “Hey, I know you guys came out on Memorial Day. I'm sorry for that.” They just told me that they were going to go work on other stuff. So, now that I know there was a simple issue that could have been fixed in two minutes, then I wish I would have said something else.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have had several issue with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

Shortly after I enrolled in this warranty, I had a problem with my washing machine. I wasn't home when the technician came, my daughter was. He left a message with her saying that my washing machine was not operating properly because of the misuse of appliances, that I stuck it with a lot of clothes. That was not the case. My washing machine was old but well-taken care of. I called then and the guy wasn't able to fix it or do anything with it because he said that wasn't covered. I called again and I was an hour on the phone because I explained to the person who took the call. I don't understand. It says that no matter how old your machine is, they'll fix it.
I asked to talk to the supervisor and I told her that I just wanted a second opinion. I asked AHS to send somebody else, or if I call the company and have them come in and fix it or look at it? She said she would send somebody else. A second technician was sent over and he was a very nice guy. He told me that the bearings are already bare and wasted because it's been misused. I asked if the diagnosis could be old already and not misused, and he said no.
He told me how would AHS cover it. I asked what about replacing it. He said they would not do any of that. I understand machines break down because of use and they used a lot. I paid the $100 deductible. He submitted his report. I was very unhappy because I wasn't getting a new one. I tried explaining and getting a second opinion. But why repair it if it's gonna break down again? I told them to repair it. I was so confused. It was repairable. He was sent here to repair it. I would have accepted if he says that it's not repairable. But he says it was, and it would not be covered by the warranty. Shortly after that, I went to Home Depot and I got me a new washing machine.
I'm very pleased with the company that came the last two times to fix my problem issues. They got it fixed right away. They were fast, professional, respectful, they cleaned up, and they were done. The second time that I had an issue with my plumbing, I requested that company because another company was assigned to come in and resolve the problem. They were very knowledgeable in what they were doing too. That's a big plus. Hopefully, I won't have any more problem issues. But if I do, I want no one else to come but them. They got here within 45 minutes and they kept me posted.

I got American Home Shield as soon as I bought my house two years ago and I’ve been very satisfied with their service. If I have problems, I can call whenever I want. The app that they use is very reliable. It doesn’t break down so I don’t have any problems when I need to request service. I had an issue with my AC that was going on and off for about four months. I love American Home Shield but diagnosing the problem was part of the issue. I had trouble with one of the companies that they’ve sent out with follow up. When I told them about that, they switched me to the other company.
The last company who came out managed to fix the problem. They were fantastic. They were very prompt. They answered all my questions. They told me what to look for if I started having another similar problem. It did take a minute to figure out exactly what the problem was because there were some multiple issues. They told me what was wrong and fixed it. I had three other AC companies out prior to them and they didn’t fix it. But the previous ones have fixed other things that were going on.

I had a plumbing issue and I put the service request via online. I had a response back within about 15 minutes. Action got ahold of me within about four hours. They thought they couldn’t get to me till Friday, but they put me on a backup list for Thursday. They called me Thursday at 10 since they had a cancellation. They were out here by noon and my problem was taken care of by 1 on Thursday afternoon. So it was not 24 hours from when I put the call in that I had service done.
The tech was great. He knew exactly what to do. He tried to go down the drainpipe that was clogged, but the machine wouldn’t go there. So he went up on the roof of my house and went down through the vent pipe to clear the clog. Then he checked all the other drains in the house to make sure it hasn’t backed up. He ran water through all the pipes to check all the fixtures. He was very, very thorough.
AHS has always done their service promptly. It’s been done well. They’ve sent out competent technicians. I had a microwave go out in a house I had in Stillwater and they sent somebody out. It was a older built-in model and it took a couple of weeks for them to find the part. But they found it, repaired it, and put it back in service. So I’ve never had any problems with them.

About my third year into the house, our AC was busted and the coils needed to be replaced. My homeowner’s insurance didn't help much but American Home Shield helped with everything. Recently, I was replacing the toilet with a newer modern one. The flange in it was busted. Then we had Bissett Plumbing come out and fix it without any issue. American Home Shield is worth it but you have to look at it in the long run. It may seem like a waste of money from month to month but when things happen, it helps out. It’s really easy to submit claims. Sometimes it's faster than calling an actual tech to come out here and look from whichever issue you have. They actually get people out here quicker. Sometimes, you'll get a bad contractor, but most of them have been good.

We had no refrigerator. All the food got spoiled. And when I called American Home Shield, they sent this guy from Swift Appliance Repair named Tony. He analyzed the problem. The part had to be replaced, so it would take about four days to order and receive it. It took a little bit longer. But still, I called to make sure if they did receive it. They said they did and they scheduled the appointment. Tony came, he fixed it, and he left. He was a really nice and very helpful man.
My brother moved out of the city and told me about American Home Shield because he thought of getting it. I checked it out and I said, “Okay, I'll try it.” At least, I feel secure that if something breaks, I could call them and they'll come and repair it. All I have to do is pay the monthly fee and the deductible. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield. In fact, I’m trying to get friends of mine to join. I have not been disappointed even though it used to be $39, and it went up to $41 something. The cost of living is getting harder, but at least it wasn’t $10 or $20 increase.

It's always advisable to call American Home Shield up to confirm after they say somebody's gonna come out. I've been using their services for a while. I'm a real estate broker so I've sent them over 25 people that signed up. They gave me a special rate because I'm a real estate broker and I'm very happy with their service so far. I had a claim and the first purveyor that they sent out to me never responded and never called. I left two messages for them. I called AHS back because I had to speak to someone, and they changed me to Air Pro Master who then came out right away. In fact, they came out earlier than anticipated. They had to replace a condenser in my compressor unit. So far, everything's been working fine and their service has been great.
The only thing I'm a little disheartened about is I keep getting emails from AHS stating that if my compressor needs to be replaced or repaired, I'd have to spend over $1,000 for the Freon. They cover $10 a pound and it cost over $60 a pound now. Otherwise, when they scheduled the second person to come out, I was very happy with the company. They came out and they were very astute and they got it working right away. I live in Las Vegas and when it's 110 degrees outside without AC, it can be extremely uncomfortable.

Bragg’s came out to fix my oven. They looked at it because it wasn't going up above 150 degrees whenever I try to get it to heat. Whenever the guy came out to look at it, he said it was the glow bar. It’s supposed to make the gas ignite and it wasn’t doing that because it wasn’t getting hot enough. So they had to go and order parts, and they came back and fixed it. With this claim, I went online to get it started and going. Once I remembered my password, American Home Shield's website was pretty user-friendly. I like being able to schedule stuff on the website. They usually give me a window of about 24 hours, or they’ll say they’re gonna contact me within about 24 hours or so. When I submitted the claim for my oven, Brigg's actually called me that same day or evening.
Bragg's was really professional. They did their job. They were really good about it. They explained everything and told me what was going on and got the job done real quick. They even adjusted the temperature gauge on my stove. I’ve been trying to get that to work because it had been heating 50 degrees over. I had tried to adjust it myself but it wasn’t working. They got that done perfectly. So I can heat up my oven now and it takes less than 10 minutes. It was right on the money to that specific temperature. I’ve been cooking up a storm with is as soon as it got fixed. I always like having American Home Shield. We got a couple of friends over and I recommended them because they had a different warranty company. They had trouble with their AC a couple years back and it took them forever. Also, it was costing them way more than I pay American Home Shield.

American Home Shield recommended a great plumber, but I had to go through another insurance, my home insurance, because there was a way more serious problem than they covered. Another thing is that my water went out on me on a Saturday, and they were not open or available during the weekend, so that stretched out the whole procedure until Monday. It was very frustrating for me that American Home Shield has plumbers that don't do weekend work, which is insane to me.
After I submitted the claim online, I felt like I didn't hear from American Home Shield at all as well. Somebody following up and making sure that the people came to my house would have been nice so that I could have voiced my concerns about not having a plumber on the weekends. Other than that, everything was easy and I had a great experience with J & A. The plumber came and he was very knowledgeable of what was going on. I had something wrong with the service line and he talked me through the whole procedure, including what was going to happen and what needed to be done. They were very prompt. They got the job done very quickly for me because I was unable to stay in my house. They made sure that they completed the work so that I was able to use my water.

I’ve always been satisfied with it. Our garage door would work sometimes and not other times. The unit has been in there for 25 years. Submitting the claim for it was super. I did it online and within minutes, I had an appointment. It was just terrific. We had a guy from Garage Door Experts who was amazing. He came right in and he asked what the problem was. I explained it to him and he said that he could fix it. I figured he would have to get the meters and test them. But he said that the sensors had to be changed down there. I was doubting but he really knew what was going on. He took the capacitor that runs the motor out and threw it away, put in a new one, and that took care of it. He was out of here in 10 minutes.

The condenser went out on my AC unit and it ended up being a situation where a completely new system was installed. When I submitted the claim with American Home Shield, I had a call from the contractor, DeepSouth, the very next day. The tech was there that day as well. He looked at it on a Friday and on Monday, I had a completely new system installed. DeepSouth dealt with it so well and very quickly as well.
I was with another home warranty company prior to American Home Shield and it was a long haul whenever you had to deal with something. You almost had to argue your case. The fan blade on my 25-year-old air conditioner was bent and so it wasn’t blowing out cold air. Every summer I'd have to pay another $75 to keep the Freon built up. The technician from American Air and Heating came out and recommended replacing the whole unit. I waited for another two weeks and then American Home Shield called and told me that they could cover 60%. I would cover 40% and I agreed to it. Then the technician came back out and replaced the whole thing. The new unit is more efficient and it's smaller but it's more powerful. I'm glad that he was able to do that and American Home Shield was able to cover that portion. Hopefully, the Freon lasts a little bit longer with this new air conditioner.

He did the same thing that the first one did. After the first guy came, he said, “Oh, it’s nothing. We cleaned it already. You’re not gonna have any problems.” Less than three weeks later, we had big leak again. Then they sent this other guy 48 hours probably after I called. He came out and did the same thing. He explained to me what he had done and that it was gonna resolve the problem.
We let our air run for about five hours, and we didn’t go and try to where I could check because the problem was fixed. When we came back in, there was a huge puddle in our garage and there was even more water coming out. The third time they sent this guy out, I didn’t receive any notice that he was coming. He called me when he was outside of my door and I wasn’t there. So then, he told he was gonna be back at 4:00. It didn’t happen. I was waiting for him until almost 6 o’clock in the afternoon, and he just kept telling me that he was getting something to eat and he would be here shortly. That turned into me waiting over an hour and a half for him to get here. Apparently, the problem has been solved, but I’m not really sure if it did get solved or not because the last time it worked for three weeks and then it stopped working. It’s always the same remedy that they’re doing.
Apparently, they were cleaning out some pipe. They blew the line. Something about a pan that was holding that when the lines are clogged causes for the goop to be accumulated on that pan and that developed causing the leak. It literally took them three times of doing the same thing in order for them to actually fix it. It hasn’t leaked out into our garage, but our ceiling in our garage is ruined. I wish that they would’ve told me that there was a probability of it leaking because it caused a lot of damage. Now, we’re gonna have to get the ceiling in our garage gutted because of that.
There was a less than six inches mark of water in our garage ceiling. So then, we went upstairs and we checked, and it was exactly in the same area where the AC was at and our AC wasn’t cooling. It was very insignificant but the thing is that, when they came out, they said that the problem was fixed. So, both times, we ran the AC. It caused a lot of damage. There’s molds in the garage now that you can see because of how wet it got.
The contractors were fine. They were courteous. They thought that they had fixed the problem, but I don’t know if they actually knew what they were doing. Overall, working with American Home Shield has been good except I can’t get through their appliance replacement line. I’ve been calling for the last week and a half, and I’ve been on hold for up to three hours, and nobody has ever answered me. I’ve been calling the direct number and I was given options that I have to press, and I’ve been doing that, and I’m still being placed on hold. We don’t really use a computer a lot and I don’t use an online account for that. Another thing is they send our calls to somewhere else with people that have very strong accent. It’s really hard to understand what they’re saying, and these people are all about denying your claim, which is pretty annoying.

It's been very good having AHS. If you got stuff that breaks down in your house, it’s pretty simple and easy. We just got a new garbage disposal installed. My wife submitted the claim and Mega Star Plumbing of Abilene came for it.
Jason,
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

Burton's Appliance had to come out and replace some parts on my washing machine. Sears had started it, and then Burton's Appliance came out and finished it up. My washing machine was shaking really bad and it wasn't spinning out. It was shaking and about to shake the whole house loose. Burton's they had to order the part for that. Then they had to order the part for it to release the water out of it because the water was staying there. We had to keep going back, trying to make it spin out because it would run a while then it would stop a while. Everything works fine now.
The only thing that I didn't like is the plumbing company that Home Shield sent out here. I definitely never want them to ever send that company to my house again because the guy that they sent had a very nasty attitude. One thing people need to do, especially plumbers, anybody that comes to your house, they need to start wearing shoes in your house or covers on their feet and stop bringing their nasty feet in your house without any covers on their feet because I got carpet all the way through my house. And when the tech came in the front bathroom and did the work in there, I knew he had to cut off the water, but he wasted water all over the floor and wet up the rug, and just left his nasty footprints all down on my floor.
And then, he went in my front bathroom and stepped in my tub with his nasty shoes on. I didn't like that. He got dirt all over the floor and everything. He was supposed to have snaked out the drain on the outside. After that, we still have problems with the sink. So, when I called the company, they told me they would send him back out here and let him check it again because the people from Burton's Appliance and Sears said the drain was not snaked out good. That's why it kept backing up. The water was backing up in the washing machine up in my house too.
So then, he came back out the second time, and of course, I didn't want him to come back to my house anyway, and then, they still turned around and sent him back again. And when he came back, "Well, I snaked it out and I'm not gonna snake it out no more. What you need to do is just get a handyman and let him dig up the pipe." And I said, "Well, what did you come out here for? You shouldn't have even come out here if you're gonna come out here and say something like that." So, when I talked to Home Shield, I told the lady, "If I ever decide to use a plumber again, do not never send that company back to my house again." That nasty guy's name was Jerry. I will never forget him. He had one of the nastiest attitudes.
On the other hand, the Sears people and Burton's Appliance were very nice. I have used Burton's Appliance before I even knew anything about Home Shield. I've been using them to do my work, and those guys got nice attitudes. But that particular guy was very nasty, and I told them never to send him back to my house anymore. Because after the guy came out last week from Burton's Appliance, what we did was we got a handyman and he went out there and dug up the pipes. And he said, "Well, that guy didn't even snake it out. That's why it was still clogged up. He didn't even snake that out like he said he did." But other than that, everything else is fine.
I joined up because my daughter has Home Shield. Also, my son told me to see what kind of experience I have from it and if it worked out fine, then he would join, too. And then, I had a sister who told me that she wanted to join up too. But after the plumber acted all nasty, she said, "Well, I don't know if I wanna join or not." I said, "Well, that one was messed up. That's not for everybody else, you know." I would recommend anybody to get Home Shield.
Joann,
Thanks for letting us know how everything worked out for you and thanks for recommending us. We look forward to helping you in the future. Take Care.

I forgot to shut our dryer off one day and we weren't gone for maybe 15 minutes but when we came back, we could smell smoke. I shut it off and we called American Home Shield. Within a day or two, the tech came out and took off the bottom of the dryer and realized that we had a lot of lint buildup down there. He also noticed that there was a switch that was not working right. He told us that he couldn't get the lint out of there and that that was something that we could do. He showed my husband how to put everything back together and then he fixed the switch. Now, when you open the door, the dryer will shut off like it used to. He was very honest and very helpful.
There was one time when the fan of our AC unit was real loud. We called American Home Shield and they sent some people out. The whole unit had to be replaced. They came in and put the unit in. They went right up into the attic, which has a very, very narrow ladder that goes up in there. We were without any AC for about a week. Months later, we were having some problems with it and a young man came from a different company. He seemed to know what he was doing. There were some problems with the wiring and he said that whoever came the first time didn't do it right. So he went up there and fixed the wiring. He said there could have been a fire if he didn't come to fix it.
Customer service at American Home Shield is really good. Now we're able to go online and submit the claim instead of calling. They respond quickly, which I was really surprised, especially when it's done online. They send emails right away when they get our email or calls, and let us know that someone would contact us and the name of the person that would contact us, which is really helpful because my husband and I are old. It helps us out a lot to make sure that the person is not a criminal or a scam.
Margaret,
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

There was a little bit longer wait time than normal when I filed my claim with AHS. However, that's kinda all the services lately with everything going. I talked to somebody and got the claim in and it was pretty quick. They had a plumber come out. The plumber came out and fixed our issue. He was awesome. He showed up quickly and got the job done. I asked a billion questions and he was super nice. He answered everything and made sure everything was fixed up. The water leaked through the ceiling to our laundry room and he said that I needed that dried out and that they had a company that they worked with. I didn't know really much of anything because I've never had to deal with that so far. Within the hour, that other company showed up at our door. Had he not done that, who knows where we would send out for the water stain.

The kids flipped a breaker switch which I didn’t know I had. The power was down upstairs affecting the upper AC unit. So, Elite Electric Solutions came out, they tested everything, they found the switch, and they turned it back on. I was impressed submitting claims to American Home Shield. I’ve used them several times. It was really pretty quick and painless. It takes a little longer to get approval though. So, as soon as they sent me a note saying who was doing it, I call them up, and they’re like, “We received it two minutes ago, and let’s go, let’s get it going.” I heard from the people who were doing the servicing that American Home Shield is the best one to deal with. It’s always nice to hear that you have the best. So, I was impressed with that. They’ve replaced three things for me including fuses and a double-oven. I had good experiences with them. It takes a little while to work through the system, but it works well.

Original Review: June 6, 2020
The contractor came out for my refrigerator and there were three things wrong with it. He claimed that all it needed was a water filter that he didn't have. He ordered it and he was supposed to come back and put it in. That was supposed to make ice cubes work and make the temperature be correct on the refrigerator side. However, we have no way of knowing if that was what was wrong until after he puts it in and see if that fixes everything.
Submitting the claim was easy. However, they have vendors that don't give you a date and time very quickly. For example, on the refrigerator, we were told about two and a half weeks ago that it was supposed to be fixed by Sears. We waited for a week and a half. On the day they were supposed to show up, the never showed and never called until the end of the window when they were supposed to come.
AHS said that they did not have a place on the website to let them know this, there was no place to chat with them and there was no place to email them. You should be able to either chat, send an email, or send a box message the way most online companies do. Instead, you have no choice but to call and wait an hour before you finally get somebody to help you. Sometimes, you wait 45 minutes, but it clicks and hangs up on you.
The woman who helped me was quite good and followed up the next day with calling back. A second company eventually contact us. This has always been the case in the last two years. It has always been the problem if you have an unreliable vendor that doesn't show up. Some of the vendors they send, like one plumbing company, call the same day, are there the next day, fix it, and are gone. You don't have to go back for a second call. When we had a problem with a range top, the contractor called AHS and said that it can't be fixed because there was no part. AHS authorized a new range top immediately.
Michael,

D&D Heating & Air Conditioning showed up on time then they took their time to diagnose what the problem was, and they fixed it. It was great. There was something wrong with the shredder and because of that, there was a leak and that was what caused a lot of Freon and my air conditioner wasn't working. There were a few different things the contractor needed to do and it was a little while (a couple of hours), but I would have preferred that they took their time and did it correctly.
This is the second call I've had with the Freon leak and I understand that Freon is expensive, so I can see why that would be the thing that would be eliminated from the coverage. At the same time, that's a thing I want to be covered for. The service request ended up being a $200 cost to me including my deductible. There's a $10 offset right now but that could be improved. All in all, the monthly cost has gone up since I first started. I'm spending about $600 a year, but I've also used the services and it has always been professional. Things have been turned around quickly as well.

We like to have coverage on everything that we have and American Home Shield has been very professional. They have executed well when they have an issue that I report too. We have three air conditioning units in our home and recently, the unit upstairs was not cooling at all. It would not go off properly and the unit outside was almost as if a relay was bad. It wasn't going off correctly. We made a phone call to one of the personnels with our warranty company and spoke with them. We told them about the problem we were experiencing and they told us they would send a representative out and then they deducted the deductible from our account. When the appointment was scheduled, I received the information on when to expect the company by text.
I was at work when the guy from Rescue Your Air came, but my wife was here and from when I spoke with her, she put the pets up. The guy went in the back, and then he came back and told her everything should be good at that point. The contractor handled everything in a very efficient manner and from a timely perspective. However, it may have been more than one issue that was there, or something of that nature may have occurred. Based on what he corrected, it created another problem because we started having issues after that. Since we still have an issue with the unit upstairs, my wife called them again and asked for them to come back out. I received another text pertaining to when to expect them as well. There have been some opportunities with me not having all the information though.
I've had multiple issues with similar appliances and I've paid multiple deductibles because the individual came out at two separate times. It wasn’t clearly communicated that one technician could have resolved all of that and I just became aware of that on this particular time when I had the technician come out, and they looked at the same multiple appliances. American Home Shield made me aware on the last claim that if I went online and submited a request, the platform was not going to allow me to put in multiple items and multiple appliances, but I could call in and speak with a representative. They would add on all of the other appliances for me. Other than that, my experience overall has been very positive and I would recommend them to someone else.
Curtis,
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.
