DeMond Electric fixed some sockets for me. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is easy as long as I get someone that speaks English well. I typically call it in. I have the reps put a note not to send the contractors that I don’t like back to my house. I've had a few where the experience was a bit unpleasant but for the most part, they do good. People are making adjustments because of the COVID-19 impact. So, people are transitioning to work from home. So, I understand that that's making the wait time a little bit longer but I like that the contractors no longer handle money.

We have a security system and we have the camera on the front doorbell. But over time, we could not hear our doorbell. My husband wanted to put in a new doorbell on the inside of the home. My husband knows some electrical stuff and so when he was trying to connect the new doorbell and putting the wires together and we were testing it, it would no longer work. He felt better to have a professional come out because he doesn't know about the transmitters. We called AHS and advised the representative that we needed an electrician to come out. They contacted the electrician, the company, who contacted us to make the appointment.

I thought the contracting company Electrical Service Professionals were professional. They were here when they said they were gonna be here. Everything was done quickly. The young man that came out was knowledgeable like he didn't have to call the office for help. He didn't have to leave for parts, he had parts. He confirmed that it was the transmitter. He replaced it and put the doorbell and everything back up. They were excellent and exceeded my expectation.

I only call American Home Shield when I have a big issue that I can't fix. They'd contact us reputable businesses, and those businesses come out and send great workers. So, even the relationship as far as American Home Shield is in connection with these great companies is a plus. They are always available as well. Even if it's after hours, we can go online, we've done that before. I love the appliances and the amount of things that they cover because it's almost everything that's why I stay with them for so long now.

Greenway did a great job. The guy who came out was an experienced person. He came on time like the way he told me. He called me and told me he was on the way and he'd be here in 10 minutes. The AC was not cooling properly. He worked on it and it's working now. I did the claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I spoke to a very nice person. I've got AHS since 2016. The previous owner forwarded the contract to me. I do have another house also that I associated with AHS, and another condominium in Nashville also. We got four accounts with them right now.

I called Home Shield a couple weeks ago. Last week, they sent someone out to fix my AC. They told me that the contractor will be out the following day between 10:00 and 12:30, and they did come out around 12:00 and fixed the AC. They were pretty pleasant. I was at work and my daughter told me that they were at the house. So, I drove over there, which took me three minutes. When I got there, they were on the roof of the house and they came down. I explained to them what was going on and they told me that they would take care of it. They went back up there and they fixed the problem, and it’s working perfectly. I even sent them back an email and let them know that it’s working great.

I told others I’ve been with Home Shield since I purchased my home, which is over 20 years ago. There have been ups and downs but overall, they’re pretty good. The last time I asked for my heater to be fixed, the contractor came to my house 20 times but still can’t fix it. I asked Home Shield to give me a different company but still sent me back the same company, and they fixed it. It would work for three days, and then it wouldn’t work. So, I just went along with it and used my fan, and I didn’t worry about it anymore. Now it’s summertime and the AC wasn’t working. So, Home Shield sent out Clovis and they are pretty good. They knew what they were doing. It didn’t take them too long to figure out the problem and it’s working perfect. So, I always recommend Home Shield to people and let them know I’ve been with them for so long. They have to be doing something good for me which made me stay with them for so long.

Our recent claim experience with AHS was outstanding. The contractors were prompt and very knowledgeable. This was my second warranty claim through Island Breeze, so I’m familiar with their company. The website of AHS is very user-friendly. It's also clearly identified where the submission button is and how to submit a claim. It is very informative. It was very easy for me. As soon as I submitted the claim, within about five minutes, I received a phone call. So, it was very prompt. My experience was great.

I had issues with my garage door and my garage door opener. When I would go out of the garage, the door would open initially. But then, when I go to close it, it won't close. Likewise, when I come in, the door would open with the remote. But when I try to close it with the remote, it would not close either. I called in a claim to American Home Shield and went through their automated system. I selected the option to be updated via text message as to when to expect the techs. So, I got regular messages from their contractor Holliday Home Repair LLC.

Holliday provided good service. They kept me up-to-date with what time they would be at my location. When they got to my place, the techs both had masks on. They diagnosed the problem and got the repair done in 30 minutes. After they resolved the problem, they went through how to reset the door opener if ever the issue happens again. Since then, my garage door opener has been performing well. AHS's contractor was very helpful. Now, I can go out like I normally do, close the garage door remotely, and be on my way.

I went into the garage to put some trash in the large city trash bin and I heard this dripping sound. It had just rained very hard and there was a lot of thunder and lightning the night before. I thought I was having roof problems. I looked up to see if there was a leak coming from the ceiling in the garage and I didn't see anything. Then, I saw the water on the floor and then I saw the water in the pan. There was water dripping out the spout of the water heater. The water was still getting hot though. I called in the claim and the technician came out. The spout in front of the water heater, for some reason, had repositioned to the on position. He just turned the spout to the right and stopped the water. It was a very simple fix and they then closed out the ticket. Now, I'm not seeing any more water.

The tech was very professional and I didn't feel uncomfortable with him working on the water heater. I was laughing at my ignorance and he was maintaining being professional. He encouraged me, in the future, to check the spout first and turn it to the right. And then as far as the water in the pan, he told me to just get it out of it. If something else happens, then I don't have overflow and I don't have stagnant water sitting in my house.

It's very difficult to call American Home Shield though. I couldn't get through and I was on hold for 10 minutes. I didn't have an online account so I had to register. The only way I was able to book the claim was on the website. Then, immediately, it was a quick turnaround with booking a contractor and scheduling an appointment. It all happened less than 24 hours when I went online.

Typically, I would call and speak with someone. Out of the past four times I've called, I've been on a long hold about once or twice. But it was during the time of the summer and air conditioning units were going out. When there's a high demand, it's very difficult to reach a live person and calling online. Also, their number changed and I didn't know. I keep the number stored in my phone and when I dialed out for it, it said the number was no longer in service so I had to Google.

Also, American Home Shield changed their policy about air conditioning units. When I needed them, they had just changed the policy for about three to six months and I had just missed it. They restructured the policy where I no longer had coverage for my unit and I had to come out of pocket $6,500 for a complete overhaul of my AC and heating at home. The huge expenses were one of the primary reasons I became a customer with AHS. I've been a customer close to 10 years now. But when I needed them for a huge expense, they wouldn't cover it. That was very disappointing.

A technician came out and that was a contractor with AHS. He shared with me the prognostic that the system needs to be replaced and he quoted me the $6,500. I told him I was gonna reach out to somebody else. I got a second opinion. The techs came out and I pretended like it was a whole new experience. The tech said I needed a new system and it was gonna cost me $6,500. What was the blessing about it is it was in the early June timeframe when that happened and we hadn't hit the 90s as far as temperature yet. So we were okay.

But the temperature started getting in the upper 80s and then the house was hot by that time. I have a little Shih Tzu dog here and one day we were sitting down watching TV and she was panting. I could put a fan on me and I'd be okay but the body temperature of small dogs is a little different. I had her put up in a pet hotel. Then the techs came out and did the installation. I got a whole new unit. I understand that these things happen and the units are gonna go out. But it was really disappointing that AHS wasn't there after being a long-term customer.

Changing the policy and not covering the unit caused a huge out of pocket expense for me. From what I understood, there were some bad actors that were making fraudulent claims to get units. It caused a huge expense with AHS because they were replacing the units. That's $6,500 and if it happens more than a certain amount of time and you've got so many customers and you've so much profit and cash flow going on with your business, you're losing money. Because of those bad actors, hardworking people like me had to suffer and pay that out of pocket. After 10 years of paying $70 a month, I've actually paid for my air conditioning unit. Also, AHS has lost a lot of customers. People have switched over to other home warranties that offer better coverages. I just stayed because other companies might turn around and do the same thing. Also, I maintain the home warranty service because I still have other appliances.

The first floor AC unit and what we thought was the AC unit on the left upstairs wasn’t responding to the thermostat. It turned out that that unit wasn’t coming on at all. It’s just that all of the fans were at the lower end of the level or in the attic above. So, when you hear them you think that that’s the upstairs air conditioning unit. The technician from A & R Complete Service identified that that unit was not coming on. The breaker had been turned off. We turned the breaker on and it came on. He checked out the fan and the motor. Everything seemed okay, so they said we turned it off. We’ve been in here about a month, so maybe someone turned it off when we were doing inspections but we got the air conditioner working.

The AC not working and I started to file a claim online but there was more than one thing that I needed to tell American Home Shield. It was not just the AC. We thought that it was the ductwork too because we were not filling the air in two rooms. So I called and it was good dealing with their rep. This happened on a Friday night and they told me that I should hear from them on Saturday. Then they called us after 2:00 PM to tell us that they would send somebody out on Monday ‘cause they didn’t work on the weekend. It was Memorial Day that Monday too but they still came out.

Empire Heating And Cooling was good and their technician was very thorough. He explained everything to my husband. I heard him say something with an outlet, so he went out to buy that and then he came back and fixed it. He got it running. He did say that he was gonna finish doing everything and call AHS and get approval, and then he was gonna come back. He came back the next day. He had this gun thermometer that he was checking. He also said that it was about the shape of the room, the ceiling, and since we were at the room at the end, it was gonna be harder to fill the air. Everything has been going good. American Home Shield was a great service.

I had some AC problems a couple of days before I had to call the fire department out because there was some smoke in the air. The fire department deactivated the AC system and they asked me to call my HVAC people. So, I called American Home Shield, and Everyday Heating and Cooling came out. They needed to get some parts. Also, there had to be an electrician called to replace a part that had been broken. So, the electric company came out, and then Everyday came back out, and they finalized the repair after the electrician left.

It was kind of a mess submitting the claim to AHS. When I submitted it, I did it just for the air conditioner replacement. The air conditioner people came out, and they told me everything that was wrong. But because I had to have that one part done by an electrician, then I had to call and request again. When AHS had the electrician come out, they had sent the follow-up appointment to a different company, not Everyday Heating and Cooling. It went to a different company who called me to schedule an appointment. I said, “No, I’m already working with another company that’s actually ordered the parts.”

So, then American Home Shield canceled that. Then they reassigned it back to Everyday. It ended up being two claims. It was a claim for Everyday and then there was also a claim processed on my account for the electrician. Everyday was awesome. They were really good to work with. They explained everything really well. AHS has been wonderful. I’ve had them for several years now, and I’m very happy.

It had lots of problems more in the electronic part of it, but they did charge me for tightening the spring. It was out of balance. It works really good now and like it did when it was new.

Every time, my garbage disposal would start to die out and we would flick the switch for it to come on but it would not come on anymore. I went on American Home Shield’s website to submit the claim. Even though I didn’t have my account number, the website made it easy to find that information for them to find me. I just navigated through very quickly. It was helpful and straightforward. I got a phone call quickly that day from the contractor and they gave me a time and slot when they were coming out. They fixed it as well as the issue I was having with the toilet. The guy was here for 20 minutes and then he was gone. Since then, everything has been working great.

We had a hiccup with our dishwasher though. The contractor did not do a good job with that but we didn’t have the chance to tell American Home Shield about that. Our dishwasher is almost falling out of the space that they put it in. It’s not anchored all the way down in there. So, when you pull the dishwasher door down, it tilts forward. They came out four months ago and we were annoyed at a certain point because we were going round and round about the dishwasher. They didn’t have the right parts and then they got the parts. Then, they didn’t have the right parts. At that time, it was more of a frustration and we never called them back, but we will.

I looked in the oven and there were flames, so I turned it off. The coil at the bottom caught on fire and it ate the coil in half. It was late and when I did the claim online, I said that the oven wasn't working and then I put on there that it had caught on fire. Wright Appliance Service & Repair made an appointment, and they came out, just like it normally is. They were on time and courteous, but I must not have explained the issue right because the guy said he didn't know it was the coil. He didn't have a coil and he had to order one for my oven.

They didn't have it in stock, but when they got it in, they called. They then came back, put the new coil in and the unit has been performing great since. All in all, American Home Shield is worth the money. I love it. They've always been wonderful as well. They've been out several times and there has only been one time that they denied something, and that was it. They redid our microwave, and then, I even had them out a couple of years ago for my dryer. They're really good.

Matt is a sweet guy. He’s a professional and we’re so happy. I have to complain about American Home Shield, though. If somebody's trying to contact them, the wait is over 45 minutes to an hour before they answer the phone. That one is bad but everything else is perfect. I’m happy with AHS. I saw a lot of advertising online, and felt to switching Sam’s Club into AHS warranty. Sam’s Club is so rude. The people that come the house are not that friendly.

One time, we had an issue with our air upstairs and AHS would have someone come out and say it was fixed, but in the next couple of days, there was still an issue. The contractor had to kinda narrow down what the issue was. But eventually, everything was fixed.

In the three years that I've had AHS as my home warranty provider, I like that I don't have to search for anyone. I just put in my claim and their contractor is gonna come. Plus, I know that things are just one set price. Every year, I think of cancelling my policy but then it's just so convenient and the coverage has really helped a lot. My refrigerator got replaced after AHS sent out tons of people to fix it. That was irritating but the warranty has been worth it. More recently, I had a stoppage in my shower sink. AHS's contractor came fast and they fixed it. When I bought my house three years ago, my realtor recommended AHS to me. I have gone back to her and told her to recommend AHS to all of her buyers.

The customer service after you finally get through is very good. But getting there is frustrating. It's totally unacceptable. I was on hold for almost an hour trying to get to a customer service rep through Home Shield. If you have to talk to somebody, it's at least an hour hold. But once you finally get ahold of somebody, their customer service people care. Sometimes, I get a little upset and excited and have a tendency to raise my voice though I don’t try to. But they're always very polite, very understanding and eager to help. But then, the claim goes to the lowest bidder, and sometimes, you get what you pay for.

My big complaint about Home Shield is they don’t give you an option to talk to somebody in person. You have to wait and wait and listen and listen. And finally, you hit zero enough times, then they put you through to a live person. But that takes about 30 minutes after you get on the phone. If you are submitting a claim for the first time, you call them, the computer takes over, you do all your stuff that you need to do with the claim, and you're done. You're in and out of Home Shield with your claim submitted in about 10 minutes.

My claim is ongoing. The lines of the AC were freezing up. They’ve replaced my AC unit, four years ago, and at least once a year, they have to come out and work on the stupid air conditioner, which to me is totally unacceptable. The year they installed it, they installed it and then it was two or three weeks later, I had to bring the tech back out and he had to recharge the whole line again. And then, the next spring, same deal. He had to come out and recharge the system. And then, last year, we called them back out. The company that did the work charged my wife $120 for coolant, but when he sent the report in, he said it was a bad fan. To my knowledge, they never changed the fan. All they did was add coolant to it because it was empty.

And then, this year, Jerry came back out and he said that there was nothing wrong with it. They put half a pound of coolant in and said, “Well, there's no leaks or nothing in here, so we don’t know what's going on,” and they left. They put the coolant in and my AC unit has been running now for three days because it's starting to get hot here and we don’t want the house to get hot because that just takes longer to cool off. I'm done giving up $75 to have somebody come out every time.

We had a friend who used AHS and they recommended them. They’ve been good to us. We've lived here almost six years and it's been very beneficial to us. Now, being a widow, I intend to keep them because it's all the help I can get. When we had a problem with the pilot going out, I called American Home Shield and then the Watters' people called within the hour to make pointers to come out. The tech came out and checked to make sure that there weren’t any leaks and he said there wasn’t a problem with that machine, so he had to check further. But he even showed me how to relight the pilot and he was very helpful. I have another call in with American Home Shield for appliances that I did the same day but they haven’t gotten back to me. They haven’t been able to find a contractor to take care of me. But overall, we've been very happy with American Home Shield.

J & K Plumbing came to a plumbing issue outside a wall. The leak is happening so they came. This is the second time because I reopened the ticket. This time, the technician is on time and it was quick response. It's a professional, permanent fix now. They did very clean work and I’m happy this time. But when it comes to the very first, the beginning when the ticket was opened, the technician overlooked and he said that it’s not their issue because it was happening from the other faucets that we attached, the splitters. There's some breakage inside the wall and it was leaking, too, and so was the hose.

When it comes to the rate, American Home Shield can come a little bit down, maybe 10% or 20%. The first year with AHS, it was very cheap. They reasonably put a comfortable cost for me but afterwards, it increased. Now, I’m paying almost 1,000 per year. It's a little pain. And for every call, I have the $100 less for every time they come for any fix, whether there is an issue or not, just to show up. It's a copay and paying-wise, it’s a little more expensive than I expected.

Most of the time, we called for plumbing and appliances in the last three years. Overall, it’s good because it is very tough to get plumbers from outside. Also, when it comes to these AHS advantages, we can call again. That’s the advantage, particularly in services like plumbing. Because sometimes, they may not able to fix it right away, and they have to come multiple times. In that way, AHS is very good when it comes to plumbing and appliances. Also, because of such monitoring systems like with AHS, vendors are also working with the proper attention because someone is looking at them. I had other issues in the past when they did not come back but with AHS, I am learning a lot. We have peace of mind.

Because of COVID, they announced that the response, even if I call on the phone, would take a while. That’s what I noticed and that means I have to wait on call a little bit more time. But in these scenarios, I’m really understanding that. And still during this time, AHS is able to engage someone and I’m appreciating the positive. As a common man, we are scared enough to go outside to meet any new people. We’re not letting anyone to come inside the home but still, they're coming to serve us. I'm thankful for all this for AHS as well as their vendors who are coming to show up and to do fixes for plumbing and other appliance issues. I want to call them as frontline fixers.

I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years. It's a movie, getting in touch with them, and getting a response. You have to wait almost an hour to get somebody to pick up the phone. And then, when you finally get somebody, it's like the purchaser department doesn't tie in their notes with the customer service. Right now, I've been hit with three different things going on. It's very frustrating for my tenants as well as myself. I hope they do a better job with picking their people and having them regulated as far as their cost to the consumer. That they forward these companies to us. But all they do is they cover what they cover, and then other out-of-pocket things could be escalated to where we don't even get a benefit from being with Home Shield.

The faucet in the bathroom was leaking on the hot side. I called to send the claim in. They were able to send someone out a week later. County Plumbing tried to get a replacement cartridge, but they couldn't find one for it so they ended up getting a faucet that kind of matched what I had. It took about two weeks for them to get the faucet, which was a while. I guess getting the coverage, County Plumbing had to call and get the approval from Home Shield. But I haven’t heard anything from the tenant. It looks like everything is working fine.

I’m dealing with Home Shield with my other two properties as well and it has been kind of weird. I have side properties with them, including my own home. I’m dealing with a company, Magic Air, in Las Vegas, that has to do with my air conditioner there. They came down the first time about a month ago, and they said it was a motor. And we paid money to get the motor fixed. And then, all of a sudden, like three weeks later, it was still hopefully covered. My property manager called it in. She’s the one that handles it. But I was noted about it because of the fact that they called me on Saturday the 30th or the 31st that the contractor came out again.

But this time, it was a crack in the fluid that contains the Freon. And I had to pay almost $400 for the Freon. I gave them my credit card, and did it. I thought, hopefully, that was it. And Home Shield only covers $10 for the Freon. I guess different companies could charge whatever they want for the Freon. Two days later, the AC didn’t work. And my tenant, Laurie, said, “The AC went on the blink again. Maybe you should call Better Business Bureau. Magic Air isn’t doing their job. Every time they come down, it’s something else.” Why they didn’t notice about the Freon before, and now, with the Freon, it’s not working.

I told her, “Well, let me call Magic Air now.” I told Magic Air I didn't know what was going on. But I told them the whole story. I said, "The tenant -- it's over 100 degrees in Las Vegas right now. Why you guys are not fixing it right? And why are you not noticing? You replaced a motor. Didn't you check to see if there was a leak somewhere that, just all of a sudden, happened? Or did you cause the leak?" This is a thing that we don't know about. And I stressed to Home Shield's customer service, "I hope you guys are doing due diligence." Because I pay a monthly service fee. I must pay probably over $5,000 for my monthly fee to Home Shield between the five properties. And I'm relying on American Home Shield to get me the right repair person because, in this day and age, people are doing shoddy things.

Magic Air came down yesterday. And supposedly, it was a loose wire, and they fixed it. My tenant called me and she went, "Well I think they did it this time. They said it was a loose wire." And I said, "Wait a second. They were there two days ago to fix the pipe, put the Freon in, charge me extra money. God knows how much they made from their Freon. And now, it was a loose wire?" The property is under Marie and my property management company handles the call in to Home Shield. So, I don't have to deal with that because they get a percentage of the rent. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is fixed, three times. And God knows I went out of pocket and I think Home Shield replaced the motor under the contract.

Now, I have another incident going on with another AC unit in another property in San Jose, California. I have MS Services. Back in January, the furnace went out. I had to get the repair. It cost me almost $3,000 out of pocket with the coverage of Home Shield supplying me with the furnace, and I had to battle with them for them to actually get the approval in. I must have made 10 calls. I said, "This property's been covered with American Home Shield for over 20 years. And for you to deny me this coverage on a furnace is crap because, during those 20 years, I could have bought probably 20 furnaces."

Super Air was the company that installed the furnace. And you have to pay almost $700 for permits, in San Jose, California. So, they didn't tell me. They supposedly tested everything, including the AC unit with the furnace. We had this service tax, we had all this hooked on. So, now, here it is in May. And guess what? The AC unit isn't working.

They charged me to come down in April for something that didn't work. And then, beginning of May, MS Services came down again, and again, the Freon issue. So, I feel this Freon crap is a way to get money from the consumer. I had to pay $616 for Freon because, in California, it's $100 per unit, and Home Shield only covers $10 of it.

So here we go again, it's a crack. We had to fill up the Freon, and I said, "Well, It's almost 98 degrees here in San Jose, California. I don't want my tenant..." They got two young children. It's an upstairs unit. Let me go ahead, and hopefully, that was it. Guess what? It broke down within five days. And now, they told me I need a new unit. Now, Home Shield will cover just the unit, but they won't cover the other $3,000 worth of fees. I know Home Shield can't screen everybody. But, this is a way of these companies, with this Freon, because they know Home Shield only covers $10 of it. So, here in Nevada, for the same amount of Freon for that unit, which was a bigger unit, I paid $400. In California, I paid over $216 more for the same R-22 Freon. It's frustrating.

What they're doing is covering bits and pieces. I must have spent over $100,000 through 20 years having these properties. Why they can't cover and regulate these businesses. The gal in customer service told me yesterday that these businesses could charge you whatever they want. It fluctuates. So, why can't Home Shield say, "Okay, this is the limit that you could charge this consumer for Freon. We could only cover $10 of it." But there should be a limit of like 50 bucks. Also, how come we don't get some kind of discount with the other products that they got to do to get the install? I don't know what the markup is, but it's getting to feel very shady.

I want to do good by my tenants, and I don't want them to suffer. But being a landlord and dealing with Home Shield, the reason I have them is because I feel that they're protecting me as a consumer by their technicians that they hire to do the job. But I had to wait for almost three weeks to get a faucet installed when they should have done it right from the get-go. When they saw I needed a faucet, call Home Shield and say, "Okay, I'm going to go to Home Depot, I'm going to pick up something and get the freaking job done."

My husband did that and we were still having problems with our air conditioner. So, I put in a complaint and AHS said they were gonna send that person back out. But then he didn't come back. Home Shield should make sure to follow up if a customer has a complaint about something until the customer is satisfied. This year, we ended up redoing our air conditioning claim but the guy AHS sent this time did the job. The tech was very informative and explained what was going on. It was arching so that ended up being the issue. He had to replace the GFCI outlet in the half bath in the main area of the home because it was exerting too much power and ended up blowing itself out.

We've only been in the house for two months and that was the first claim that I submitted. It was very quick, easy and seamless. I submitted the claim for service online through the portal, and then within an hour, I got a text message saying that the service was accepted and there’d be an assigned contractor that would contact us within the next 24 hours. I had somebody from Aim High Electric contact me the next morning notifying that somebody would be out there between 10:00 and 2:00 that day. So it was a pretty quick and easy turnaround. The technician was very personable, very thorough as far as troubleshooting and figuring out what was the issue. So I didn’t have any issues at all as far as the whole service itself.

I'm writing here hoping for the failure of AHS. Worst experience ever. I bought the AHS-ShieldComplete warranty hoping for the protection of my major appliances. 4 weeks ago my water heater started leaking. I called, they sent a contractor called County Plumbing (**). 2 weeks later, County Plumbing came in a random time, without calling. Then they asked me to take photos of the water heater such that they can identify what needs to be fixed/replaced. Guess what? They said besides the replacement of the water heater, the water and gas pipe should be replaced to satisfy the city code. With a lot of uncovered items, I have to pay ~$800 myself. Adding this to the cost of AHS, I'm paying more for the water heater replacement if I just find a local plumber.

Then I called AHS. They suggested me to go for the cash-out option, which means they'll give me a check to cover the cost of finding a plumber myself. Then I quoted several plumbers. With the cash-out option, I still have to pay for ~$700. Then I tried to call AHS again to go-ahead with the cash-out. Guess what? This call is never answered. Wasted me ~10 hrs dealing with this stupid company.

Had a request to do a plumbing problem. The company that was to do the work couldn't do it on the date that was promised so I cancelled the request. I had my son-in-law to fix the plumbing problem. I paid the $100 deductible up front and they said it would be refunded. They never refunded it and you can't get them on the phone. I have filed a dispute with my bank on getting the credit card charge refunded. I feel this company is not a very friendly company to their customers. They need an email address so you can get in touch with them.

They send a service man out when requested for an additional service fee on top of your yearly cost. Once the service man states that the appliance needs to be replaced, it's over! The company never follows through, or answers your phone call and there isn't an option to communicate through chat. You better be prepared to wait at least a week if not weeks on weeks to get any sort of response. The customer service is nonexistent!! I have been without a working refrigerator for a week and no hope in sight for a status update. I've been on hold for hours on end, just so I can get hung up on.

A Supervisor in Training responded to my experience by calling me and offering an agreeable solution. She was professional and empathetic about my situation. Her name was Stacy. Grateful that AHS has people like her to diffuse situations with customers.

    Original Review: June 2, 2020

This is the third time a contractor sent by AHS has failed to fix my refrigerator. The final contractor said he could not repair and said he would recommend replacement. 4 days later I never received an email from AHS reflecting this communication. I called and was on hold for 56 minutes. When I finally spoke to Customer Service she said they would return service fee because per the contract if an item covered fails within 60 days of last repair. She also said that the contractor had reached out to them and she didn't know why I had not been contacted.

I was then connected to the Appliance Purchasing department to start the process of replacement. Once they finally picked up no communication from customer service had been recorded or shared and I had to start all over again. This person took my information and put me on hold for another 30 minutes. Once she returned she said they wouldn't be able to get me a replacement but I could pay out of pocket and be reimbursed (for well under the market value by the way). I expressed my concern that this amount offered ($1,077) would not be sufficient in order to purchase and install new refrigerator and dispose of old unit. Per the contract I should be reimbursed/replacement up to $3,000 per item/appliance under warranty!

I asked to speak to Supervisor - she said there are none available because of COVID 19 staffing levels. I asked to be sent an email which they did. The email states that AHS does not have access to a model that matches my current nonworking refrigerator (basically) which is probably a LIE! And I will have to purchase on my own but from a specific retail store www.ajmadison.com and after AHS receives the invoice and determines the work has been performed by the retail www.ajmadison.com my reimbursement will be processed within 14 days. I am so upset!!!!

AHS selected a HVAC tech to complete a repair/ evaluation. They detected a leak in my in the condenser unit inside and was going to recommend a repair/replacement. This has been 3 weeks ago and the Vendor still has not provide any documentation to AHS.!

AHS has tried to reach the HVAC vendor with only a phone response. Still no answer from Vendor so the repairs can not be scheduled. So we will now have to wait weeks to get a repair complete. they offered $125 for me to buys a window units while I wait!? I have a 1800+ sf home. AHS wait time is 30-45 minutes just to speaking to someone that does not help with solving the problem. I've called every couple of days for an update and I get the same answer. Nothing! I called American Home Shield today (June 2) at 7am to put in a service request for the A/C unit making a god awful squealing noise. I was assigned to Ice Cube Air Inc. I called them and the soonest they can come out is June 3 between 12pm and 2pm. I notified them that my home is now 90 degrees (8:30am) and that I have 5 children in the home and we cannot wait until tomorrow. I asked if they could put it in as an emergency call and the representative stated I need to call my home warranty back and have them change it to emergent.

I have been calling American Home Shield since then waiting on hold 45 minutes on both numbers it is now 11:20am and I am still unable to get a hold of any representative. The live chat is on the website but unable to be used. There is nowhere in my account page to put in as an emergent situation. I will definitely be shopping around for another Home Warranty company whom is available when needed especially since I paid my first year in full! As of right now I am not recommending this warranty company and trust me I have sent multiple new home buyer referrals to my Real Estate Agent in which many of them were able to purchase.

We are a small property investment company and have recently purchased a small investment home. We had used AHS in the past and after we had prior issues about repairs, we had decided to not use them since a while. For this property, however, we purchased the "ShieldPlus" package and after about a month the property manager noticed that the A/C kept cutting out. He called AHS and they were reasonably quick to respond. They came out and charged onto of the $100 call-out fee (we knew about this when we purchased the plan) a $200 refrigerant surcharge, payable directly to the contractor, who did not accept credit card and insisted on a personal check from the property manager.

On prior contracts, there was no surcharge and it is hidden deep down in the fine print of the agreement, which only was made available two weeks after closing of the property and plan purchase. In the confirmation email they said that central HVAC systems are covered - there is no asterisk or footnote saying there are exceptions - same as here on consumeraffairs.com. They say that HVAC is covered - no exceptions. This is not only misleading, but my regular HVAC contractor would likely have made the repair for less money than the $300 I now paid through the plan.

Disappointing. Tried finding out through a new application for a nearby property on the same street we own - was called back within 30 seconds. Told the rep about the problems we had and she suggested to call customer service. I asked her to arrange them calling 3 hours ago and I have also called customer service and started to write after being on hold for 30 minutes. It appears they have two lines of business - collecting premiums and dishonest, misleading advertising.

For the next "6 weeks", yes 6 weeks and multiple calls later to American Home Shield about parts or service I was getting nowhere. I told AHS we desperately need our washer or we would have to go buy one. Millers Appliance would not return calls and their voicemail was full. AHS tried to call and email Millers Appliance, no response.

Finally getting nowhere, my husband and I had no choice but to get a washer. We bought a washer and did 25 loads of laundry. I work in a hospital and he is a landscaper, essential workers. "7 1/2 weeks later", Millers calls and said they can come out and fix the washer. REALLY??? I filed a claim with American Home Shield in April and was told I'll hear something in a few days. AHS used a contractor that came to our house to repair the AC capacitor. Ever since the contractor came through unit didn’t seem right. I requested a 2nd service call and AHS sent out the same company however this time we were told the cost of the repair was MAJOR and that replacing the Freon would cost us a range of $1000-$1500. He wanted us to purchase a new unit. Told us that he gave us 8 lbs of Freon (discontinued R-22) to “keep us cool” until the new unit was installed. That evening (30 mins after he left) I notified him that I wanted to wait for an install until AHS has responded. The contractor (our neighbor) became rude and threatened to return to my home to remove the $800 of Freon. I told him to remove it. He said it would be no good to reuse. I didn’t care if you removed the Freon bc we never asked for it.

A few days later, we discovered that he had lied about the type of Freon used - have on video. It was not r-22. I was so angry because he ranted on for 3 days and tried to force us to purchase an A/C based on free r-22. We decided to postpone the install until AHS spoke with us. I found out that the contractor had planned to keep the replacement part and money for the repair and planned to charge me full price of the unit. I have called numerous companies for quotes. The owner of the company told me that he self reported what his employee did wrong and recused himself from the job. I have attempted to speak with AHS for 3 weeks to no avail and have spent more that 15 hours on the phone. No one has returned a solitary phone call. Very substandard business practice.

When you talk about being long, I think about Medicare and all those others and they were nothing like that. When my air conditioner quit working, we had the century mark heat that weekend so we were really suffering. We had ceiling fans, but it was hard. The tech from South Placer came out and knew exactly what happened and everything, and he fixed the AC. He put another part in to help. He went up in the attic, fixed all of that. They look at it and then they fix the problem. Recently, water was dripping from the freezer to the refrigerator and also, the ice maker was not working. The tech came out and had to order a new ice maker. Then he had to clean out a line where there was water that had backed up into the tubing rather than going into the refrigerator for the circulation. He has gotten it fixed and everything seem to be working okay as of now.

Overall, American Home Shield gets the ball rolling in the right direction. My issue however is with what their contracting company does with my claim after that. One time, I had an issue with our showers and we had a plumbing company come out. Two techs replaced the Mixet shower faucets I have and they left knowing that those were unadjustable in terms of temperature. They were very difficult to turn. I asked how we could fix the situation and the techs said that the only thing that could be done is change our valve. To do that, they would have to break through my walls and they would not be responsible for repairing my walls after they did that. They told me that it would cost $500 for each of the showers.

I told them that I would keep their quote in mind and got some more quotes from other plumbers. I found that the prices were going up from their quote so I called AHS one more time. I told them that I wanna have my issue fixed but they should assign me a different plumbing company. They did that and the next guys who came out got my issues fixed. The plumber who came told me that I had some corrosion and that they would get it out. They did that and now my shower handles are perfect. I’m very happy with I’ve got now, and American Home Shield was the company that made sure that I had a second opinion company come out. However, I was unhappy with the first plumber company who came because I didn't feel like they gave two rips about my problem with the shower handles.

More recently, I had several different service calls for my pool heater that was never working. The previous owner of my home never used the heater and the gentleman who came for my first repair appointment said that there was so much old stuff at my place. He got new parts from his truck and put them in. However, he still couldn't get my heater to operate. I then put in another request and the same tech came out again. This time, he was operating with his phone and trying to get my heater to work. He had a grump attitude and told me that we hoped we would fix it that time. He still couldn't do it. He told me that he didn't know what the problem was. He said that he already changed a lot of wiring and put it some new parts. So, the heater should be working but it was not. He left and I put in a third request to AHS.

A different gentleman came out and he told me that it looked like my heater was set for a timer. He asked me if there was one and I told him I haven't really explored too much and that there was a single switch to turn on the pool system. He unhooked two wires and my heater started up perfectly. That told me that the previous tech was on the phone with him the whole time during the previous repair as he was the pool heater guru.

That week, we had some friends over and we were enjoying the pool and the heater. All of a sudden the whole system shut off. I jumped out and turned off the heater because I knew it could overheat if it didn't have time to cool down while there was circulation. The motor causing circulation had just stopped. I put in a request through American Home Shield again for my pump and they told me that it was a different issue and that they would have to charge me the $75 deductible again. I asked that they not do that until their tech determines that the problem is not part of the same system.

I called Golden West Pool which was the company coming out to fix my issue. I called before they opened so I left a message saying that if anybody from their company knows how to look for a certain switch or fuse for my model of pool pump, maybe that person could call me and talk me through the fix. I told them that maybe I could save them the trip. When the guy whom I hired separately to maintain my pool came out, he found a breaker that was completely separate from the rest of the breakers at our house. He said my breaker tripped and showed me that my pool pump was already running.

I called the pool place again and told them that I had an appointment set for the pump but then the pump was not the problem. I told them that my heater was still not working and asked if I could keep my appointment. The rep there said that my appointment is still open even though I cancelled for the motor issue. I then called American Home Shield and told them that I've set up an appointment with the contractor for my heater which was not working again. I called the pool place again to double check that my appointment was set. The rep said I was all set.

I took the day off on the day of the appointment and nobody showed up. By late afternoon, I called Golden West and asked them was was going on. They told me that they cancelled my service appointment because the technician got a message saying that if he wanted to call me and talk me through my issue, it would be okay. I told the rep that message was left before they opened and it was for my pool motor. I told the rep that I still had an appointment set up for the heater. I also said that they didn't have the right to cancel my order and not tell me.

I explained that I still had a pool heater that was not working and that they were responsible for my issue. The rep told me that the soonest they could get a tech out would be a week later. I waited another week and their tech came out. It turned out that the first guy who did the wires put a wire in a place where if I close a little access panel, it would pinch the wire off. That wire slowly deteriorated over a couple of weeks until the heater stopped working. The tech who came fixed all the wires and put everything in a safe place. He showed me exactly what to do if I have a problem with my heater igniting.

Now, my heater works well but it took several attempts to get it done. It was like pulling teeth. I also had an issue with the contractor deciding to cancel my appointment and not tell me at all. If the tech took the message I left seriously, then he would have called me and tried to talk me through the fix. But then, he didn't even do that. They dropped the ball big time.

I went online and logged the problem I was having with my dishwasher. I was able to navigate Home Shield's website without issues. Affordable did the dishwasher and I was happy with them. The only problem was that they didn't diagnose the whole problem the first time. They partially fixed it and then it ended up that another part was malfunctioning. But they were professional. Both times they came out, they called 10 to 30 minutes before they arrived and they arrived within the timeframe. And when they were here, they wore masks. I was happy with how they conducted themselves.

But things have been terrible because after they came back the second time, the list of parts was too great. And now they're saying they're going to replace our dishwasher. They gave us a list of dishwashers that are substandard compared to what I have and that's not replacing it for like value. What we have isn't extremely high-end. It was in the middle of the road. I checked the value today and we can't buy a new one, but we can buy a refurbished one for $500. And they want us to take a cheap GE one and it's not even close. I can get a more expensive one, but then I gotta partially pay for it.

I was with AHS for 10 years. I went away for a year but then I came back to AHS because the company I went with never fixed anything. There was always a reason why my claim wouldn't be covered. Most recently, one of their contractors called Iceman Cooling & Heating came out and investigated my AC problem. They didn't just say that my unit was low on Freon, threw Freon in, and walked away. Instead, they found out why my unit was low on Freon. Since the repair, my unit has been working fine.

I went to get something out from underneath the sink and saw that there was a puddle under the sink. I put a bucket under it and called for AHS to have someone come fix it. When I submitted the claim I got the automated prompts, and then the home warranty sent me a text saying who it was and that they would be contacting me, or I could contact them at a certain number. Then the plumber called me and we scheduled a time.

The contractors came in quickly and were very courteous and professional. The first time I had to call them back because it was leaking again and they came back very quickly. I kept the bucket under just in case. I just went to go look to make sure the bucket’s still there and it’s dry so it’s working now. I can now use my kitchen sink. AHS has been very fast, very transparent and would highly recommend it.

Calling American Home Shield was a nightmare, though. The rep kept telling me she was gonna charge me again and I said it wasn't fixed the first time. I hope they didn't charge me the second time. I couldn't get anybody to listen to me and I have to sit and wait online for hold forever and ever. I can't even recommend them now until I call them again the second time, which I'm going to. I have something else wrong at another property that I have them on.

Service Connection came out and inspected the dishwasher. They concluded that I needed a new board. However, I got a call that said someone was coming out for a second opinion. I was kinda confused because AHS already had sent a company out and they haven't even contacted me. The second-opinion company contacted me and told me that they were coming out, and they couldn’t even come out until June 9th. The first service company came out on May 27th and it took them about a week to come out. Waiting two weeks to get service shouldn’t happen for something so simple. Also, AHS's prices go up every year. Whether you put a claim in throughout the year or not, they still increase your rate. However, their contractors have been professional.

Stainy's was pretty good. It just took them a longer time to order the part. It was a very specific part that they needed. But once they had the part in, they called right away and got it done. They came out quickly. They were professional. I like that Home Shield connects us with those folks that do the work and the benefit of paying a monthly payment and having that assurance that when something happens, you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg to fix those things. That’s the biggest benefit for me.

However, when I decided to create another account, it forced me to use another email and that was almost problematic. Fortunately for me, I have two emails that I always use. But I found that a little cumbersome because I just needed to add a property to my existing account. I was able to figure it out, but initially, it threw me off just because they mixed in my email. I do have another email and I have Home Shield contract service agreement with them on that account. But other than that, I’ve already recommended Home Shield to just about everyone I talked to.

When my hot water heater went out, Marathon Services came out and it went great. The tech was quick and able to quickly diagnose the problem. They weren't even the first contractor that Home Shield assigned to me. The first contractor claimed to have called me but did not. They didn't even leave a message, but that's what they said. And I figured that they would not do it because it was a holiday weekend. But they got to kick it in enough time. Marathon was the second contractor that was assigned to me by Home Shield. They called me last Monday, which was a holiday, to let me know that they would be out on Tuesday. They're very professional, didn't play any games, and got everything done quickly, courteous, on time. It's a good experience with him.

Home Shield might want to check the other company that they sent me because, that's an indirect reflection of them when you get contractors that don't do right. I told them they can't get on Better Business Bureau, Angie's List, HomeAdvisor. They have 1.5 stars in all of the comments, which I just happened to read after because I was so flabbergasted. And I had a conversation with their person that pretty much says, "Too bad, too sad. Call them and ask for somebody else." But in most of their ratings, they were known to be no call, no show. Those are people that have had dealt with Assurance Plumbing through the home warranty. People also say they claimed to have called, but they never got a call from them. So far, it's been great, but that might be something that is looked into when working with contractors, that they check their ratings out and see what's going on.

It was easy, but we were originally sent a company that did not service the kind of unit we had, even though when we filled out the form, we said what was wrong. When filing the claim, I had a 30-minute wait time, which I understand. With the times the way that they are, that's kinda par for the course. I got disconnected and I wasn't able to get anybody. I had to call back again and wound up waiting for an hour. Once I was able to get on the phone with somebody, she helped me through everything. The contractor added Freon. I'd like to see some kind of chat option on the website. It would be a decent thing to have because calling takes so long. I was also kept being told to go online to submit a claim, but when I submitted a claim, it kept sending the wrong company out. I didn't have a choice but to call.

The fan wasn’t working on the air conditioning unit. I submitted the claim on Monday and no one came out until Friday. The guy from Home Service Corporation got the air conditioner back on where it was working, but then once my temperature gauge was set to whatever the temperature of the house was, it wouldn’t shut off. Now they still have to come back out, but they can’t come back until June 8th, which is like, “Are you serious?” If the guy would've just stayed a few more minutes to make sure everything was working properly, I wouldn't have to make a second call for them to come back out. The air conditioner is supposed to be almost 90 degrees. I had to turn it off and then on to even make sure that it would work, although I just wished that I didn't have to go through this again.

My number one issue with AHS is that why does it have to take three or four days for someone to come out? I honestly think that’s way too long. Secondly, the people that they always send are in a really big hurry to hurry up and get the job done and leave. I kinda feel rushed whenever I’m dealing with them. What’s the point in me paying the money to AHS when I can just call somebody else and have them come out and take care of it? It may cost me more money.

If only AHS can get that piece together, make it seem like the technicians care a little bit more, or have a checklist that they go through to make sure that everything is working properly like it’s supposed to be, or wait a little bit longer to see. Their salespeople or their representatives take the time to talk to customers and hang around a bit to make sure everything is working fine. But I’ve never had any problems with any of the technicians that have come out that helped service whatever issues that we’ve had.

The plumber from McDade Mechanical was fantastic, but American Home Shield did not pay a dime on it. They said that because the main pipe that goes under the house to clean out came outside the foundation, they would not cover it. But, the pipe went under the house first and then came outside for easy access. I'm a little discouraged with it, but if that is the only time I'm out for a while, then I am okay with it.

I have also had AHS sent somebody out before because I had the same issue, and all the guy did was tell me that I have had too much grease and toilet paper. The last plumber told me that the main flush line was rotted and cracking. And so, dirt and mud were seeping down in it. The piping that the guy then had to fix costed me -- I ended up having to pay out $1,700 and I also had to pay out $100 to get a plumber out there. So, I'm beginning to wonder what does this home warranty cover. It was like American Home Shield did not work with McDade, and they did not work with me. Right now, I do not know if I want to go with someone else because that was my main one, and I'm not happy about it. If something breaks and AHS won't fix it, and the problem is within the foundation, then I'm going to be mad.

American Home Shield let us know it would be a little extra than the regular $75 because of the reconnections and all they had to make. We were forewarned about the cost so, everything went well. The rep was very professional. He came in and replaced everything. We were five days without hot water, so it has been great. Everything has been functioning very well since then. She did not call me back, and I had to call again and was placed on hold for another 35 minutes. I know some companies are doing it where you can leave your number and they'll call you back. That would be more acceptable, so you can't just sit there placed on hold. And if you ask someone to give you a call back if you get disconnected, they should know to give a personal call back.

The company that came out did a good job explaining. But this company had come out before and they couldn't figure out the problem. I came out of pocket too much because this was the third time somebody from air conditioning had to come out and work on my unit. They couldn't figure out what the problem was and then it was left to me to pay the Freon that they had to put in there 'cause American Home Shield only paid us up to $10 and they said, "In your contract, it stipulates that we only pay up to $10."

It was funny because, at one time, the contractors had to take the unit from inside the house, to supposedly fix it. I was out for two days without any air. Then they came back, and within two months, the same problem. When the contractors came out this time, they were saying I still have a leak. I thought they went and took it and fixed the leak. But what they did was pacify me and filled it up with Freon, and then the Freon was slowly, but surely, leaking. So they replaced the whole unit. In a way, I'm happy that I have AHS because had I not had it, it was gonna cost me over $1,000 to replace that unit.

They’ve had to come out multiple times to correct the same issue and/or replace with another company in order to get it replaced. This time, the issue came back and they had to come back. AHS needs to make sure that the people that they hire are grade A contractors and gets the job done the first time. Also, it’s a little harder to do anything on the phone, especially if you have multiple problems at the same time. You have to do a different claim for every problem. If your garage door doesn’t work and your plumbing, you have to speak to or get two different contractors.

American Home Shield is more expensive than other home warranties but they're okay. I called in when my broiler and oven stopped working, and customer service was pretty good. A week after making the claim, someone came out and they were great. They got my broiler and oven fixed. They had to order parts so I was without a stove or an oven for about a week and a half. They then came back and installed the parts.

A week ago, the cooler was working just fine. My daughter and I went out shopping and came back home. It was hot in the house but we had just come in, so I thought we have to cool off. I heard the cooler turn on but I didn't feel any cool air coming out of it. I went to the thermostat and turned it down to see if maybe something happened. It wasn't doing anything. I shut it off because I thought I don't want the motor to go bad if it was not working. I turned it back on just to see if that was what it needed to be. It was turned off and on.

When I called American Home Shield, they said sometimes the breaker might be off. It was a recording. But I checked that because we did have the lights go out a couple of days before that although the cooler came on just fine. I looked anyway and it was on. I then flipped it off and turned it back on. I came in the house and turn the cooler back to see if it worked but it didn't. I just kept it off. I called American Home Shield and got an appointment with Ambient Air.

I had service with American Home Shield about 4 years ago then I canceled it because I lost my job and couldn't pay the monthly payment. I'm on unemployment but I thought, "I'm just gonna get it again because I kept getting emails about it." We got it and because it was a 10% off for the year, it was cheaper than what it was before. I thought I can do that. I got it in April then in May, my air went out all of a sudden and I was so glad I got the home warranty. American Home Shield is great. I was really happy with them before although I didn't use it a lot when I had it four years ago. I've used it twice and once was on my air conditioner. It needed some Freon. When I had them before, they were really good. This time, they are really good as well. I had great service with Andy and his son. Also, Troy has been very professional. He got the job done and it was great. He was very professional.

I've had American Home Shield for years and they're great at doing the little plumbing jobs but every time it seems to be something expensive, they seem to find a way to wiggle it. We had a refrigerator claim that we went round and round with them and we finally got a check and bought a new refrigerator ourselves. Also, Home Shield assigns people they want to work on claims and when done automatically, they just pop up whoever the contractor is. I called back to get try to get it changed one time but once it was assigned by the computer, they can't change the contractor. What they ought to do is give a list of contractors and let the customer choose who they want.

I had a heater claim and Cabot Mechanical came out. American Home Shield had to order the parts to get them to fix it because they wouldn't replace it. Cabot fixed the heater and that's fine and dandy. I've had some not-so-skilled, professional-type people come but Cabot Mechanical did a great job so I waited on the phone to request them for an AC claim. But the lady I talked to didn't seem to understand that this is a different problem and that this isn't a comeback. I would have thought the person I talked to would understand the system a little better.

I have a manufactured home and the air ducts in it don’t blow correctly into the back of my house. It blows cold on one side of my house, but not on the other. All the contractor did was walk around and check the coldness coming out of my vents, but he never went down and checked my ducts to see why I was not getting enough pressure of air in the back of my house. He just told me that everything was fine so, I’m having a different company come out. He also said that AHS had this new program where you can get a new air conditioning service put in for $5,000 to upgrade. He said that I should go ahead and do that. He told me that if the pass-through that goes from one side of my house to the other wasn't working properly, then it was not covered under AHS. I don’t understand why that wouldn’t be covered. It’s ducting under my house. Other than that, I'd refer friends and family to AHS.

For the longest time that I've been with American Home Shield, the reps have been very nice. American Home Shield has been great. In the past, I wasn't too happy but I stuck with them because I knew that if something was broken, they would be there to take care of it. This year, I would say kudos to them. I really appreciate them. I probably would even recommend them because if something breaks, you're out, what, $1,000? You don't know how much it's going to be. Besides, not everybody is gonna be perfect. That's just running a business. You're gonna have the good in with the bad.

It's difficult to submit a claim. You’re waiting for someone to get on the line and you're hearing the same music over. But I talked to a lady last week and she said I was going to get the $75 that they took out reversed because it was still the same claim that they came out for. Then the ladies, from when I called and made the appointment, and the people who came out to the house from All Comfort Specialist, were very nice. They explained to me what they were going to do and what the issue was. They replaced the battery for the air pressure. I had to go get my son and I told them I would be back, and they were just fine. They were polite. I didn’t get to them but I called them the next day and thanked them for leaving a message.

This is the worst company ever. From the beginning, we received janky contractors with terrible reviews, and have had to request for another contractor to come out instead (we were charged once for a contractor that never showed up). Recently, I submitted a request to have my dryer fixed. We had two cancellations due to Covid-19 and the contractors not wanting to move our dryer and didn't want to bring another a team member with them. Fine, but how many requests do we have to submit to have someone come out? Instead, we hired our own contractor (who came out and moved it just fine by himself). We have since purchased a new dryer for $700 from Home Depot.

There's no need to have this warranty if we're paying out of pocket. I called to cancel our contract and was on hold for 35 minutes and the call mysteriously dropped. I called back and was on hold for 25 more minutes - the phone hung up again. I'm currently on hold and it's been 40 minutes. ALL I WANT TO DO IS CANCEL MY ACCOUNT. There's no place on the site to submit a cancellation request, which is unacceptable and you're forced to speak with the awful customer service agents in order to cancel. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. RUN AND HIDE YOUR WALLET!

I then looked on my bank statement and I saw that AHS deducted $123.82 from my bank account, without my knowledge or permission, not to mention that the amount was WRONG! 1.5 hours on hold on the phone. Told them they breached the contract that I agreed to, that they never gave it to me in writing and that I wanted them to credit the error and I would pay $30.82 per month as agreed upon.

Rep found that I was correct about the $30.82 and the $123.82 was an error but they could not credit it back once it was taken out!! Argued, put on hold, then he said they would credit the $92.xx but that I could no pay it online as agreed, I had to have auto deduction. Not what we agreed to and said I just wanted to cancel the whole thing; too many errors, did not trust them. When he transferred me to dept to cancel I WAS CUT OFF. NOW ON HOLD ANOTHER 1 HOUR++. A customer service representative was able to resolve the issue on June 3rd. Service with a new contractor was scheduled and they were able to repair the AC unit.

    Original Review: June 1, 2020

It is simple to place a service request on the site. However you have to follow up on the status of a service via the phone. There are multiple occassions where I contacted American Home Shield and ended up waiting on the phone for over 30 minutes in order to speak with an agent. I also placed a request in February 2020 for a HVAC upgrade conversion and did not get a status update on it until I had to call in a service repair for my AC unit in May 2020.

In summer 2019 I had to place multiple AC unit service repairs (one in June, two in July) because a contractor would come out, attempt to repair the unit, and then it would still not be fixed. Then, a second contractor would come out (a different company), say that the previous contractor did a poor job and did not repair the unit correctly, and then attempt to repair the unit. This happened more than once with each contractor blaming the prior contractor for not repairing the unit correctly (for example, one of them secured a piece with zip ties and another left coolant leaking). It is exhausting dealing with this company and their contractors. I am currently waiting to get in contact with AHS now (20 minutes and counting on hold) because my 1pm service repair was a no show and the contractor is not responding to calls. I will be happy once our warranty expires and we can move on.

We have switched from American Home Shield (AHS) as of this May. We had them for four years, and the last year they began denying things on criteria that was clearly stated as covered in the contract. It's a really predatory company who takes their reasonably low monthly payments, and then they make out in the long term by denying claims if you don't fastidiously read your contract. Read your contract and be sure to call them on any fraudulent activity with regard to their coverage of your home appliances. Or, just avoid them entirely and go with another company.

Put in service request for AC repair on 05/22/2020 for rental property I Own, got a call from contractor, said he can not go until Tuesday, convinced the tenant to wait and rented them swamp cooler for the weekend, Tuesday morning got call the the contractor, who was so rude and before he even get to the property said it will take 10 days, Arizona has a law requires landlord to repair AC within 48 hours, called the AHS wait after wait, calls go to center in Philippines who has no clue about US laws and state laws, spoke to so many employees and and explained to them how urgent the matter is, having kids and Sr. citizen but no one cares, asked to speak to supervisor. No one provided, same lies every time, contractor did not return the report.

Ended up calling the contractor myself on Wednesday, and I was shocked, he informed AHS from Tuesday that it will take 10 days, his excuse was parts, I was under 2 options, repair it myself or face legal issues, called AC tech I know, same day he went up and fix it, guess what? Parts were available in local stores, this is summary the frustration with AHS is unbelievable. On same day called AHS and told them I am going to repair it and requested cash out because I can not wait for another week with 110 F temperature, the 2nd round of lies started, waiting for estimate, called Friday and still no answer and they keep saying, "Oh, the contractor is going out on Monday to repair it, Monday comes, early morning gets call from the contractor he is heading to the property to repair it, even though i informed them from Wednesday that I fixed it and requested cash out option, one lie after another.

The only department in the US is sales and they are the easiest to get hold of, other departments oversees people has no clue about US laws and regulations. All they doing is lying to you, and they are really good at it, AHS pays them to lie and BS you. At the time writing this review I am on the phone for 2nd time today trying to speak to someone who can help and no luck, every call has to wait 45 min. and no one calls back if calls gets disconnected. Bottom line save yourself the headache and buy your warranty from other place, this company is by far the worst I ever dealt with, and by the way this was my first order with them, I don't know what to say. So far, I've had a couple of claims and AHS has been doing quite well. Submitting claims is quite easy. I go online to put it in and AHS has all the right prompts that come up. They changed their policy and made some things different. Now, I can pay my deductible up front.

Also, AHS's response time is a lot quicker than it was before. For my claim, Climate Express Came out to address an AC issue of mine. The tech diagnosed the problem right away and fixed it. But then, I had a different issue come up as I have two different units. He came out again and took care of the subsequent problem. When we had a pipe burst, American Home Shield sent out a wonderful service provider that fixed it, but I’m still waiting on someone to come in, redo my wall and put the concrete back outside over the pipes. The service provider had to rectify the issue of the square that’s cut out at the wall and they told me it usually takes three days to ensure that it’s not leaking on these pipes. So, I’m waiting now to have an appointment set up. Still, this is my first time making a claim, so I appreciate the speedy response on the matter and sending out a professional to work on the issue and resolve the situation.

R Palmer Mechanical came out and fixed my refrigerator. The service guy was very kind and prompt. It took a long time for it to get fixed but it was due to shipping issues with the parts. It wasn't anything he could control. I like American Home Shield's service but I feel like I pay a lot of deductibles for them to tell me something is not covered. That's aggravating. I pay them money every single month. They should cover more stuff or at least tell me upfront, "You're gonna give me this $100 just for me to show up and say we're not gonna cover that." Other than that, they've done pretty good.

My garage door wasn't working and we made the appointment with Garages R Us. The service guy told me that if it was the remote, he couldn’t handle that. American Home Shield did not cover that. They only cover the door. When he came out, it turned out it was the remote. He could have fixed it if I’m willing to pay his company the amount he was asking, which was understandable. I said, “No, I would see about fixing it myself.” I got my husband to fix it. But he was kind, courteous, professional, and very pleasant to deal with. Their company got a good rating. I would recommend them to anybody that needed a garage door. The service guy was very good so he gets an A-plus. It was a good experience.

Our dishwasher was leaking and we initially put in a request. We had Mid Maryland come out. They were supposed to run diagnostics to see what was wrong. The gentleman was here to look at three appliances, our refrigerator, our dishwasher, and our microwave. He said that the microwave’s not an issue because it would just make noise. It’s a builder issue, which I’ve never heard of that before. He didn’t even look at it. Then with the refrigerator, he put a magnet up to the door. He was pulling things and then he said that it looked like it doesn’t have Freon. With the dishwasher, he took out a pod, put it in, and said it was suds. He told us that we have to use a different brand of soap. On the inside of the actual machine, there’s a big label and it shows it’s a Cascade product so we should be using Cascade. He said that we should use Finish. I told him that we have Finish. Then he said that we have the wrong one.

I asked him if we clear off all the bubbles if he could run and see what’s going on with it. He said that it would take a while. He has to go to the machine and let it go on a cycle. He proceeded to put more and more cooking oil in our dishwasher and kept running it. I told him that I’d run cycles of water just to get all the soap out. He said that it would not be easy. I told him to wait and see if it’s gonna continue to leak. I also asked him if he wanted to check and see if it’s the gasket or the rubber seals. He said that he's been doing this for 30 plus years and that it’s not gonna leak.

He said that he would call AHS and let them know that it’s the suds. Then I noticed on my email that American Home Shield closed that ticket out. I called back immediately and asked why they would close that out. The tech didn't even do anything with it. AHS said that if they would send out a second opinion, they would charge me another $75. I told them that the first opinion was never done. The person on the phone understood and she was very calm. This one time she would not charge a second fee and send someone else out.

This other gentleman from Ample Home came in. He asked if the first tech looked at our gasket and rubber hosing and I said no. He barely leaned down and told me there were screws loosed there, he could tell that there’s a leak because of that. He spent 30 minutes looking at the machine, actually diagnosing it and pulling things. Then he said that the gasket and hose needed to be replaced. He would place the order for those pieces and then he’d be in contact soon.

The fan was blowing, but the AC wasn't cooling. The actual fan outside was not spinning. We put in the claim on the 25th. Originally, it sounded like the vendor would be contacting me but nobody ever contacted me. So, I ended up calling them. They told me they had about 30 claims over the weekend so they'd get to me when my order has been received. Then they told me they weren't gonna be able to come out 'till Thursday. I assumed it was gonna be the 28th. When I called them and asked when was it gonna happen, they said the gentleman that does the scheduling called them back and said they've got us in for the 28th. Come to find out, when they originally told me Thursday, it ended up next Thursday.

Scheduling is a big issue. The only suggestion I have is if it's going to be a prolonged wait for getting something like air fixed, then give us the option. Is there another contractor that was available or could be available? Luckily, they got it done last week and once the contractor came out, and he was great. I got bumped up because I was that squeaky wheel. But if I wouldn't have said something, I would've been waiting 10 days. So, if that was our only option in this area for a contractor for air conditioning, that's a little concerning that if they would have had more customers in line or they would've not bumped us up, then we would have been waiting out there for 10 days.

The issue that I've seen with a lot of warranty companies like AHS is that they are very limited with the contractors that they use. I know how big the market is up here. If you take in consideration Minneapolis into the equation, it's a large market. Generally, down in Texas, they only have 2 contractors that does air conditioning. It may be different up here. But if you're limiting the number of contractors you use, then you're limiting the number of customers you can service. If this is the case here, I'd like to know what is communication like going from the contractor back to the warranty company to tell them, "Hey, we can't get to this customer until Thursday. You may have to get another company come out." They may not wanna get another business, but I think that would be the right thing to do for the customer.

It's convenient and quick with AHS. My microwave was shutting off if I use it for anything more than one minute because it was overheating. The fan was broken on the internal. I submitted the claim through the American Home Shield website. It was easy to find. I was given an email to notify me that the contractor would contact me. The guy from AH Appliances Repair was friendly and quick with his work. He kept in touch with me. He had to order a part so he told me he would come back another day when the part arrives. He contacted me when that happened and everything was really streamlined.

If I have one complain, the microwave was reassembled and part of it broke so there was a large zip tie holding up the vent. When the AHS plan was purchased, I was told that it was a replacement plan. When my microwave broke, I thought we were gonna have it replaced since it’s so old. I guess I didn't read through the documents about the repair process. But I would recommend them to a friend.

AHS sent Zach from Ski Electronics and he did an exceptional job. I had three different items and he worked between the three items. He knows his work. I was with American Home Shield for many, many years and I left them and went with Sears, and then I came back to them. They're prompt with the service calls. I like the idea that I don’t have to wait a very long time to get somebody on the phone and to get a response back from the company that is gonna be coming out. The customer service is good.

I already recommend them to a friend and several family members. Now, my family members have them and are new to the warranty. I got a phone call from a family member and they had a new issue. But I have not had any bad experience with AHS at all. I don’t know if it’s the location because they stay in New Brunswick, New Jersey. I found out that they paid a little bit more for the pricing because of the location. But as far as I’m concerned I’m good with them. I told my sister about AHS here in Delaware a long time ago, and she got them, and she kept them. She had to have her washing machine replaced and she did. They couldn’t fix it and they replaced the washing machine.

We kept having to pay $500 to put more refrigerant into our 10-year-old unit and the coils in the condenser had leaks. We called American Home Shield and they assigned Air Doctor to come out. The guys were good. However, I’m probably not going to stay with American Home Shield because, first of all, when I called, the person that I got really didn’t speak English. We had a terrible connection and we couldn’t communicate well so I wasn’t able to get good information going in.

Second, they only paid for $500 for a $7,500 air conditioner. It doesn’t pay me to continue the contract. It’s kinda silly. If they’re only gonna replace a percentage of something, I don’t see how that helps me. I’m paying enough in premiums that I could put money aside for any next repairs. But I’m gonna look around, think about it, and I’m gonna investigate although I don’t know how to talk to American Home Shield ‘cause I had a problem communicating with them in the beginning. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t worth the money.

AHS had somebody come out once before about our air conditioner and replaced a compressor, and they’ve had somebody come out again. They sent CityLine out this time and we agreed that we just needed a newer technology unit, and the coils needed to be replaced because they’re not holding Freon. I did the claim online and it was a very fast process. The CityLine folks called us two days later and got the appointment together. It was easy and pretty much the same as normal. But this time, we cannot reach AHS. We had been on hold as long as two hours trying to reach them, just leaving the phone on speaker. Unfortunately, it caused us a little bit of delay because we needed to get information from them to make some decisions with the company.

That’s been a bit frustrating and we also felt this time as though we didn’t quite understand the pricing. It was difficult for us to understand what it was AHS was covering as part of the pricing that we got from CityLine. When they sent it to us they said it was minus what AHS was gonna be covering. So, it wasn’t clear to us because the market value, just getting other bids for the work, seemed to be what they were charging us. The wait time that caused delay has a domino effect because the vendor is saying that they can’t provide information and we have to get it from AHS. So that’s been a problem. This might be related to COVID and their workload at the moment.

The guy that they send out all the time is good. He explained stuff to me, but I'm just having trouble with my garage door. I don't know if I need to replace it but it doesn't take him long to repair stuff. I haven't had any trouble with him or the contractors. They came out to do my refrigerator once about two years ago. And then, the garage door man was very friendly.

The last time that I called Home Shield for a repair, it was May the 24th because everybody was out for Memorial Day weekend. One of the representatives I spoke with told me that I was within a grace period to do a recall. I didn't call that Monday because I knew it was a holiday. I called back there Tuesday, and they told me that since it was 31 days in March, I'm a day late for the recall. I don't think that's fair. The representatives need to get their stuff together. At one point, I was thinking about dropping American Home Shield, and I still might and go to another company.

So, something was wrong with the whole house. The guy from Waters Edge came and he went up on the roof and did that thing by the kitchen sink. He snaked it out. We talked to him again and then they came and snaked up the one that was close to the bathrooms, and now everything is working. The one in the kitchen was kinda difficult. It took him a pretty good amount of time. I’m really happy with them.

The connection from there to outside was all goofy and that was causing a problem too. But he said they don’t fix that. He told me to do it and I was like, “Yeah, right.” But it works perfectly now.

I also had him come out for the refrigerator, which is a total mess. Right now, the refrigerator itself reads 50 so we don't have any food. We’re eating out. But it’s certainly not their fault. He ordered a ton of parts and it’s been a week now so we’re anxiously waiting for the parts to come in. He said it would probably take four or five business days and unfortunately, he came out on a Friday. He probably didn't get to order the parts until Monday.

We had a recent AC claim to American Home Shield and they sent A.G.E Mechanical. They were good. They came right in and immediately identified the problem and fixed it. I've had American Home Shield since February but I’ve had it before and I had to let it go because of financial issues. I started it back this year. I love it. This was actually the first time I’ve ever used it and everything was perfect.

Home Shield is convenient and I've recommended them to a few people. After I didn't have a man in the house, stuff started breaking down and after I had replaced the boiler, someone asked if I didn't have Home Shield. I didn't know anything about it and I asked them what it was. They said that it was the best thing and it has come there. It has been three years since because it has been since my divorce and the warranty has served its purpose.

Unfortunately, this time, my washer and my dryer started acting up on the same day. I tried to wash and it wasn't washing the clothes, and then the dryer wasn't drying, so it was just throwing out cold air. I thought, Home Shield isn't going believe me when I tell them and I was even embarrassed to call. I thought, "Oh, my God, they are going think that I'm doing this" but I wasn't. Anyway, I made a service request then they had MMAB Appliance come out for the dryer and it went great. The guy was able to fix the unit that day and it has been working good so far. Meanwhile, someone is going today for the washer.

I called an AC claim in and the way it worked was fine. Dealing with their customer service was very good. The guy from Airmax came right on time and he was very nice. He had a mask and stuff on his thing and went downstairs to the air conditioning. I showed him what was going on and he looked over and he flipped the switch on and it came right on. We went from Sunday through Thursday and it was getting rather warm downstairs. But the experience from a professional standpoint with American Home Shield and the person that came out were very nice and professional. I was pleased, but I was embarrassed.

What happened was my daughter-in-law had turned it off by mistake and I went down and checked it, and I didn’t even notice that the power had been turned off. But the Airmax was very nice. American Home Shield helped me with real air conditioning problems and refrigerator problems years ago and I’d recommend them to anybody as a backup emergency thing.

My husband submitted a claim on AHS's website requesting for them to come out to look at a couple of our faucets that we were having problems with. He went through a fairly easy process. However, using their site is a little difficult sometimes because it doesn't give us the option to say what our problem actually is. Instead, the site would say "other" then give us an option to type in what that "other is". They sent F6 Plumbing out to service our claim and the tech was great. So far, we've not had a problem with anybody who has come out to fix our problems.

A rep contacted us and we put the claim in on Friday, in the early evening. The next Monday was gonna be Memorial Day but we were given a timeframe that we would be contacted within and it actually happened sooner that that. The guy with All Comfort Specialist called me and my interaction with their company was positive. He came out, looked at the unit and said it was just the capacitor that had gone out. He said it happens frequently. He replaced it and we were done. So that was good. It impacted us significantly because the ones who have the central heat and air were having to sleep downstairs on the couch for the first five days in a row.

I had a faucet in the basement that was just running. It started out as a drip and then it got worse until it was running in a steady stream, and that’s why I decided I needed help. I called it in and that went fine. However, the contractors is where I’m kind of shaky. I’ve never heard of either one of these people that Home Shield sent out. I’ve never heard of Marathon Plumbing and Stout Heating and Cooling. And my experience last year was really questionable because somehow, my bill got confused with somebody else’s bill, and they were calling me for a payment of $250 for Freon but no Freon was required. I don’t know exactly what the guy did, but he had to make an adjustment on something. And he put in this filter that was supposed to fit my furnace, but it didn’t. It was a substandard filter.

I don’t go down to my basement often because I had hip surgery, and so, I’m not to go up and down those steps, right? So, I went down to do laundry and saw that the filter was crammed in. I checked to see if it was the right size. The filter said 16x25, but it was much larger. When I went down there, it was like I’m going to cram my size 22 body in a size 16 dress. It just doesn’t work. And then, I’ve got this phone call about this $250 and I said, “What?” “Well, blah, blah, blah,” he went on. And I said, “No. Are you sure you’re talking about…” I gave him my name, address, the invoice number and the technician’s name. And I was reading off of the invoice that was left. It said nothing about any Freon. The only thing it said was that the coil needed to be cleaned, but that was it.

I hope he dropped the issue because I never heard anything else. And I was reluctant to call for this plumbing thing. I said, “Well, this is gonna get worse. So, I better go ahead and call.” I called and crossed my fingers. And then, when the guy from Marathon came out, he said he had to order the replacement faucet because that one, of course I’m guessing, had been stripped. But anyway, I thought, “Oh, boy. Here we go.” But he came back and installed it and everything was fine. I was thinking about cancelling, and I said, “Well, maybe I just better give this a try and see what happens,” because that could’ve just been a bad incident with that one company. But I was wondering how they picked these contractors that they send out.

Since the plumber was coming out, I called Home Shield to see if the plumber could address another issue that I have with plumbing, and they said that I couldn’t. So, I have to make another $100 charge to get a plumber to come back out. And I thought, “Okay. That’s interesting.” Nobody said that they would be able to, it was always in a gray area as to whether or not this could be done, and I thought that was strange. But I understand certain – I don’t know how to put it. I work for an insurance company for a long time. But to say that, “No. You’re gonna have to make another claim,” to me, that’s like saying, “Well, we want another $100 from you,” and that bothered me because I don’t have $100 to dish out every other week.

I signed up with Home Shield was because I’m a senior citizen. I bought these appliances and I’m hoping that they will last until I die. But of course, I know that’s not going to happen. I’m trying to take care of them because my warranties have ran out so I bought the Home Shield as protection. But that doesn’t mean that every month, I can shell out $100. So, I’m trying to figure out what I’m gonna do and how I’m gonna do. That’s where I am.

The program from American Home Shield is great in itself. Over the years, I had been to other places and I ended up with a big bill. But if I use American Home Shield, even though it's so much per month, it's still better off because I can save in the long-run. I can get things fixed right away without having to wait for money to come in and do that.

There was a leak underneath the sink. I had trouble the last time logging into the computer system to file the claim. The phone system kept giving me the runaround. It took me about seven attempts before it would go through the whole system on it. Once I got in, it was fine and everything else went fine. I kept getting plugged out of the system on that day. The rings and stuff like that had broken away and the plumber had to replace some parts on it. He got it fixed up pretty good and he was in and out in about half an hour.

I've been pretty lucky that all the people that American Home Shield has sent out have been good. But sometimes, it's harder to talk to explain what's going on where it's not a blanket issue. It's something that may be multiple issues or you may have to tell them a little bit more information so when the people come out, they're a little bit better prepared. So it would be a little bit nicer if I could reach out and talk to somebody once in a while.

Our kitchen sink had been not draining, and it was over a year or so ago that we first started having the trouble. Also, the washing would leak and wouldn't drain properly. Wilbourn & McCabe came out and worked on that. We had the septic tank pumped and they came back and they resolved the problem. They snaked it and that was fine. But we've been having trouble with the toilet that they replaced for years not flushing properly. It had leaked because it was not draining properly. So, the floor had to repaired. We took care of that but American Home Shield never did rectify the problem with the toilet, so we continued having trouble with it. Then, Wilbourn & McCabe came out, put a new toilet in, and everything is working wonderfully right now. So, we're very happy with the results.

We've had American Home Shield for at least five years, and the biggest beef lately was being on hold for over an hour and listening to the elevator music that would make you go crazy. It wasn't even a full song. It was just like the chorus looped of an instrumental. I was on hold for over an hour two different times and gave up.

I had two properties that had both the furnaces and water heaters go out. The tech from Everyday Heating and Cooling did a great job. He was very informative and good people person. He wanted me to clean the coils as it would be a maintenance problem potentially. Once I cleaned them, I should give him a call within the next 30 days and he’d come out and reassess the situation. Unfortunately, I didn't clean until after that. I made the other claim, and the came out to look it up. Then he took the plates off of my furnace and it was not put in there well.

When he came and looked at it, he took everything that was from the side that was all dented and didn't fit right. He used his own personal screws to screw it back in. He even cut an aluminum film so he can actually make sure that it fits better. He went above and beyond doing that. Then he put some refrigerant and leak protector in there because I thought that I had a leak. He said that he didn't see one, but he still went the extra mile to put it in there just in case he missed it. He did an amazing job and I couldn't ask for more.

Most companies that come in, they say, “It is what it is." They walk away and just leave me high and dry. But the guy was educating me about the services, educating me about what I should look for, what I should do beforehand before I even have to call him or the warranty company. “These are the things that you can do to protect yourself. And make sure that you all file these things before you have to.” So, yeah. I mean, yeah.

AHS service has been consistent. It’s just that the people they contract with are not. I have one company that every time they come to my house, nothing ever gets done and I always have to do a second opinion. Every time I do the second opinion, the new contractor would find something. She didn't do their due diligence in actually digging to the issue. They just look at it on the cover and then they leave. But it all depends on who the people got.

Filing a claim has been very easy to do. There was one time that I did online and I have my account set up on my computer. The website was good. However, when I click on the in progress item, I can’t reply on that and ask what’s the status. I have to call and there’s a wait time of 15 to 30 minutes before somebody will answer. Another drawback with this type of deal is waiting on the repair and not being able to use the item, and then sometimes the part can take a while. I’ve got a claim about the dryer. Two of the three parts came in. We’re waiting on the third one ‘cause it’s backordered and they gave us a date of June 10th. I'm gonna call to see what happens if the part is not here by then or what are we gonna do differently.

For the last 30 days, my wife noticed that the eyes of the stovetop were not heating up. It was very inconsistent. I looked up on the warranty that that was covered. I called American Home Shield and they were very helpful. They said that I’d be getting a call within the next 24 hours. The GE guy that did the stovetop was very professional. He did the social distancing and had a mask on. He worked very diligently and patiently, but he couldn't fix it. The part was out of date on the stove so they were kind enough to let us order one. We’re waiting to hear when that’s gonna be ready to be installed.

When I initially set up the claim, I wanted the repair work done on the water heater which I keep referring to as the boiler. I set it up as the boiler on the electrical which is a steam heat one. I didn't know there was another option below for water heater. When the technician came, I told him there was a problem with the water heater but that wasn’t his job to do. He thought it was under electrical so he fixed the AC drainage which wasn't something I mentioned. That was why I reopened the claim. But when I went back to the AHS site and looked, I created another claim which then went to a plumber and they fixed it. I was hoping on my repeated calls with AHS that this could have been figured out. I paid $100 for the same request but because of what I did, I had to pay twice to 2 different technicians.

AHS could improve on customer service. It takes forever to get them. The first 2 times I spoke to somebody, it took an hour. The second time was nearly 2 hours. I just hung up. That is a big problem. The website is only good for requesting a claim and that's it, nothing else. It gives you no chat, no follow-up emails, no option, nothing. That whole customer service experience is pathetic. If they don't want somebody to man the phone, at least have somebody exchanging emails. The person who comes on the call is not knowledgeable on the appliances. If somebody was, then they would have told me that I chose the wrong option in the first place. But so far, the contractors have been good. I have no complaints.

He was very professional and dealing with him was awesome. He also repaired the stove. The button for the right front burner would not turn and so the screws had come out of that. He was able to take the button off and put the screws back in. Then the burner started working again and everything has been working fine except for the microwave. The door is still an issue and it can't be repaired. They're gonna have to replace the microwave.

The repair has made it easier now because we're now able to use our burner for the stove and now able to not worry about a potential shortage in our microwave and a fire. AHS has been very convenient because we have not had to go out and search for an electrician or plumber. They've always been able to send out really good people. They were very punctual and I didn't have to wait until two or three days later to get the issue taken care of.

Optimo Air and Heat was excellent. The tech diagnosed and fixed the problem immediately. He was in and out and did a great job. He was very professional, and I was impressed. However, I don’t think Home Shield always knows what’s actually covered. I don’t know how many times I’ve wasted a $75 service call to find out something wasn’t covered. So, I’m taking my chances in even calling Home Shield sometimes, as opposed to going and finding somebody and having it done.

I had a plumbing issue in the last few months with my washer, and it was something I needed fixed immediately. It was leaking in the wall. The contractor said they didn’t have time to open up. I’d had to open up the wall, cut out a little piece so they can get into it and they didn’t have time to do any welding to fix the issue. The contractor couldn’t fix the issue that day when he finally came out so that was frustrating. I won’t use them again. I went down the street, called a contractor friend, and he sent over one of his guys to fix the problem. He had it fixed in 30 minutes. It was depressing that I paid the $75 again, and Home Shield didn’t cover certain things again.

After doing a claim for it online, American Home Shield had Best Choice Heating & Air assigned to my service request. The repair happened the second day though because we needed to see what was gonna happen. The tech had to put in an authorization then he came back yesterday. Everything was finished up and so far, so good. The tech I had before this last one that came out wasn’t all that. But this guy and the last company were both were pretty good.

When you flush the toilet, you could still hear it and then water was still flowing in it. I called it in to American Home Shield and the rep was excellent. She said that they would contact me but I got a text message that the contractor was gonna call me to schedule. They didn’t call me within two days. I had to call AHS again and they sent another request to Mr. Rooter. The rep came in and did the work. He knew exactly what he said it was. Then, he worked under the sink on the garbage disposal and it had to be replaced because it was leaking and spilling out water everywhere.

A few days later, I kept hearing this drip. The restroom wasn’t even being used but all of a sudden, it would try to fill up the tank again. I asked my daughter to confirm it and she said that the other toilet was doing the same thing. So, I contacted Mr. Rooter first and asked them if it was supposed to make that noise. The lady said no and told me to call American Home Shield again. So, I did and they sent someone in.

The guy said that some parts in there were not replaced. The flaps were worn down, which was why it was turning back on to fill up the tank, and that was where the drip sound was coming from. Since they came out, there's no more filling of the water. My daughter did complain that you have to hold the handle all the way down and wait for it to actually flush, and we never had that before. But after I called in, the contractor came right away. Both times, they were very courteous, explained what was happening and were in and out of the house very quickly.

I enjoy that I have AHS. It has made a big difference because I never knew that things like this were gonna happen. So, having that as a backup has helped, especially right now when they were not working. It's the best thing. I added the appliance protection as well. So, that comes in handy. Instead of having to pay a repairman coming in, you just pay your $100 deductible. It's a reasonable rate per month.

When it was taking numerous cycles for my dryer to dry my clothes instead of a cycle, I did a request through a representative and the contractors that came out were great. The dryer has been working fine since as well. On the same day I did the dryer request, I did an HVAC request and they told me that because it's the special, it had to be requested to a person. I wanted to do the air condition check-up for the HVAC for this preseason and I had to go to a main person. They were very friendly, but the whole time was crazy.

They said that they couldn’t assign somebody, that it would be sent to some department, and then they would inform me of who would be my contractor. I was given a provider through an email to say that I have a provider, but I still have not heard from the HVAC company as to scheduling an appointment. I don’t want to call American Home Shield though. I'd rather see if I can find the name of the company that they assigned the case to.

In regards to the customer service that the representatives provide, it was great, but they need to do something about the wait time. Each time I've called the company, thus far, has been at least 30 minutes on line waiting and it's not acceptable. That’s something they need to improve upon. I get that we're going through issues, but people are still calling and needing service. I put the call on speaker and what I was able to do in that timeframe was insane. That’s a lot of valuable time that’s being wasted. I could imagine the frustration of people who don’t have cellphones or older clients sitting on a call that long. They could watch a whole show if they wanted to.

I had a claim for my sink and Home Shield did pretty well. Initially though, one company came up here and the guy turned around and walked away. He told me he couldn't put a snake down my sink because I didn't have some kind of the clean-out on there. But another guy named Joe from Advanced Home Services came and he was very polite. He put the snake down there and he fixed my sink which was driving me crazy because it happened to break over the holidays.

It was a Saturday and on Sunday, they couldn't do anything then. Monday was the holiday and I was caught with a stopped up sink until Tuesday. When Advanced Home Services came, Joe had something wrong with one of his equipment. He went back and got another one. He then came back and fixed my sink. I would highly advise others to always use those people because they were wonderful. My plan will be renewed in August. I was thinking about going with some other warranty company because that first contractor was disagreeable. He walked in and told me a lie. But I'm very pleased with Advanced Home Services and I would keep them all the time.

But with the last two times that I used it, I haven't had an issue.

We got American Home Shield because when we bought the house, we had a one year that was already paid for but we haven't used them at that time. And so, when it came time to renew, we did and then, all of our stuff hit the fan and then it just went downhill. I recently filed a claim online and I definitely found that to be easier because the last few times I’ve had an issue and had to call somebody, it was a nightmare. It was almost like they weren’t understanding what I was saying and then that they ended up telling me, “Just go to the website and make an appointment.” We've been with AHS for almost three years and for the most part, we’ve been pretty unhappy.

We’ve had a lot of plumbing issues since we moved in. And we’ve had their people come out four times and every single time, they’ve either given us the runaround or they can’t do what we need them to do or they don’t even really look at it. They just say, “Everything’s fine,” when our toilet was not flushing and then our house flooded. Everything was not fine. And so then, we ended up not going through them and just hiring a different plumber to come out.

And we had to end up getting a brand-new pipe because our pipe was completely backed-up and collapsed because it was that cardboard pipe and they told us it was cast iron. It was not cast iron. They didn’t even look at our pipes. So, for most of our plumbing needs, I don’t even go through them anymore. I go through the people that came out and fixed our whole sewer pipe.

The only reason that I used AHS recently for the air conditioner was because we were in the process of selling our house and our buyers asked for us to service our AC. I happened to get an email saying, “It’s time to service your AC. Would you like to set up an appointment?” So we tried it. Nothing is broken. It works fine.

The technician was great. He was professional and fast. He let my kid watch while he was in the middle of everything. He gave my kid high-five and very sweet. There was some build-up in the unit and if we see the same piece that we have in our house, we can just put bleach or vinegar in it to help it so it doesn’t get the way it is now.

Hope I am not too incorrect. We have had AHS for almost 25 years and used them infrequently, usually with great satisfaction. However, my last experience from summer of 2019 has me worried. Our Samsung refrigerator died. They sent one company right away. The technician, polite and professional, looked at the appliance and said “we don’t do Samsung. We have to call their technicians”. Instead, they handed the work back to AHS.

The next company assigned, Chesapeake Appliance Repair showed up and politely informed us the same. They did not hand the work back to AHS. Instead, they never called again and we managed to connect with them in only one of about 15 calls over a month or more. The one time we talked they said they were in Samsung’s queue. We waited. We called AHS service desks many times. Always polite, they had no success in contacting the company. Asking to speak to a manager resulted in the manager always busy, never calling back.

At last, I called a number I saved when we had to replace a washer. So after more than two months, I managed to get action, They paid us for a replacement.

Now, my AC is malfunctioning. They just assigned a company and the company has promptly contacted me. I looked for reviews on YELP. They had several 5 star and several one star reviews. Invariably the one star reviews were when the work was assigned by AHS. So, now I’m waiting for them to show up this week and hope for the best. But it seems AHS has not lately been vetting well enough. I’m giving their service request desk one star. But their replacement department deserves 5 stars. Average is 3 stars.

American Home Shield is failing to fulfill my contract with them to repair/replace my damaged washing machine. After my washing machine failed I contact American Home Shield (AHS) to open a claim. A contractor was assigned and approximately a week later said contractor came to my home and confirmed the washer could not be repaired and a replacement would be recommended. After 72 hours I'd heard nothing from AHS (and had now been without a washing machine for almost 10 days). I called AHS and spent an hour on hold before reaching a rep. The rep told me the contractor had never submitted a detailed diagnosis for the washer. I asked that she call them to inquire what was going on and she did.

After being on hold for another 15 minutes I was advised by the AHS rep that she spoke with the contractor and that they were "working on it". I asked what the hold up was in submitting the paperwork and she was unable to advise and confirmed she actually didn't ask that. I asked to speak to a supervisor and after being placed on hold for approximately 30 more minutes I was disconnected with no call back. I called back again and waited on hold for over an hour again, the new rep told me the contractor did send the diagnosis but was recommending a repair not replacement. I explained this was contradictory to what the previous rep said. The new rep called the contractor again and this time told me the contractor had tried to look for the part (the first I'd heard of this) but couldn't locate it so AHS has to try to find the part.

I asked why the story keeps changing, rep was unable to explain why. Asked how long it would take for the part search and he said up to two weeks. I explained that is absurd, got put on hold, got told 48 hours and was promised I'd be called back advising one way or the other if the part was found. Asked for my records who the rep spoke with and he said "Ty" from the contractor's dispatch and apparently he was the one that had said the washer could be repaired instead of replaced. Waited 48 hours and got no call back, called the contractor myself, spoke to Ty, he said none of the above conversations with him ever happened and that they'd said to AHS from day one the washer couldn't be repaired and sent paperwork within 48 hours of the visit to my house. He stated they'd send it to AHS again.

I called AHS after not getting a call back and requested a supervisor, while waiting the initial rep told me she looked at the case and no diagnosis had been sent from the contractor, I explained that can't be possible given what I'd been told about the search for the part, etc. etc. Asked for a supervisor and while waiting she came back and changed the story again that it had been sent but they needed to find parts. Waited for the supervisor, he couldn't explain what happened but said he'd investigate and get back to me but never did. Reached out to the contractor again and confirmed they'd sent the paperwork a second time which they had. Reached back out to the AHS supervisor who gave me his email but he either wouldn't get back to me or would give me vague responses that they were investigating.

Eventually he said they still didn't get the paperwork and I asked why they don't just call the contractor but got no response. Called the contractor back again and spoke to the GM for field operations, he confirmed they always had said replacement, sent paperwork to AHS within 48 hours of the appointment, sent it a second time after I called subsequently and didn't know what else they could do. Emailed supervisor at AHS again with all this info and received no reply. I've spent thousands of dollars in premiums for AHS and just want them to honor my contract. I never insisted they replace my washer, I just need a working washer, whether it's fixed or replaced didn't matter. I've now spent over 8 hours on the phone over multiple days with no resolution, and I've had no washing machine for weeks and AHS is refusing to even truly investigate what is happening.

All I've wanted is for AHS to fulfill my policy, if their contractor who they picked for my case says it can't be repaired, and that contractor is insisting they've sent all the necessary paperwork to AHS and AHS hasn't received it, why am I the one trying to fix that problem, I'm just the customer, AHS needs to figure out where the breakdown is and finish my claim. At this point I've had no choice but to go ahead and buy a new washer on my own because I can't go any longer without one. I have a child and he needs to be able to wear clean clothes. I've now filed complaints against AHS with the Better Business Bureau, NJ Department of Consumer Affairs. NJ Department of Banking and Insurance, NJ Department of Consumer Fraud, and the FTC.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for 15 years. I’ve never had another home warranty and I haven’t had a need to. I submitted a couple of claims this year already and with the COVID stuff, there were no problems. AHS has added model numbers, which is great, as well as a description of the problem. That way, you can give those technicians a heads up. It would be nice to be able to immediately give me a drop down if I’ve had previous contractors. Those people have been there before, and they know you and you know them. The work gets done. They had me with a previous provider for many years and one time, they moved me to a different one. I called it in and I asked to be switched, and they had no problem with that. Recently, the motor of the bathroom fan went bad and the contractor, American Team, put in a new motor. They had it on their truck and it was all done within an hour. I’ve had them before and they were very good.

American Home Shield is pretty prompt. We went round and round about the heat pump issue and that ended up costing me 2,300 bucks out-of-pocket. I kinda thought that was bull. They wanted to replace half of the unit that didn’t work and then the other half of the unit that did work wasn’t compatible with the heat pump, so I had to pay for that out-of-pocket. But I’m still happy with the warranty. When I had an AC repair, the contractor that came out got everything fixed. They had to change my compressor. They knocked it out in a very timely fashion. They got me up and running. Everything went great.

The air conditioning wasn't working at all so Air & Water Solutions came out and they were able to put refrigerant in and get it working. My husband filed the claim to American Home Shield online and then called their customer service number. They initially scheduled the first company that wasn't available until Thursday. When we called, they were able to get a company out that same day and they scheduled within a couple of hours of us calling. We love Air & Water. They were great. Everything seems to be running fine. The air is cool and it's coming on and there are no issues as of yet.
