The contractor was fabulous and his service was excellent. He came out for five different things and did all of them. But when the water pressure gets to a certain level, the dishwasher door comes open sometimes. He checked around with his colleagues who suggested I turn off the circuit breaker and let it reset itself. It’s still doing it though. I need to call him again and try to get him back out here.

I submit claims to American Home Shield online and by calling. Both work well for me. Recently, I had a claim for an AC unit and the tech they sent did a good job. He wore gloves and had a mask on. He was very concerned and did what needed to be done. He had the part needed and he put it in. Everything went smoothly and he repaired things in under an hour. My AC has been working well since then. I was satisfied with him.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your AC request. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

AHS did reach out to me and wanted to make matters right after I wrote my review. The communication was not always very timely, but AHS did give us the option to have our own plumber, who we trust, fix our water heater at their expense. The fix was simple and straightforward - the anode rod needed to be replaced, and the water heater needed to be flushed well and properly. We appreciated this very much after the awful experience we had. However, our warranty expires in less than 3 months, and we will not be renewing it. We do not want to use AHS providers any longer than we have to.

(I apologize for this VERY long review. I want American Home Shield to have ALL this detail.) We used our American Home Shield home warranty service for the first time on June 5, 2020 for a hot water issue. We were getting hundreds, maybe thousands, of disgusting black chunks and bits in our bathtub every time we ran the hot water but not the cold water. I have been unable to use our only bathtub because I do not want to soak or bathe in all of this black debris. I later found we were getting the same chunks and bits in multiple bathroom sinks as well as in our shower when running the hot water.
American Home Shield assigned us a plumber for our hot water heater issue. When we looked up the reviews of this plumber, we were not thrilled. This was not a contractor that we would have chosen to use if we were paying for the service ourselves - we always use much higher quality contractors. But we remained hopeful that the plumber would be very knowledgeable and give us great service.
When I scheduled the appointment with the plumbing company, they had me describe the issue we were having. I described how there were hundreds, maybe thousands, of black chunks and bits in the bathtub each time I ran a bath. I told them how they felt rubbery and greasy, how they smeared like mascara, and how they stuck to the tub so badly that they were extremely difficult to clean off.
When the plumber showed up at our house, I took him to see the chunks and bits in the water in the bathtub. He looked at them only very quickly. I told him I had pulled out chunks from the tub earlier if he wanted to look at them close up. He didn't look at them and told me to “just throw them away”. He did verify that the chunks and bits weren't in the cold water supply.
The plumber then proceeded to the hot water heater. He looked over the outside of the heater for a little bit. Then without any further inspection he simply said we had debris in our hot water heater. He flushed the water heater halfway and told us to continue to flush it multiple times over the course of the next couple weeks to get the debris out. He even said we could flush it every day for a month, if we wanted to.
I was extremely frustrated that with very little time and investigation, the plumber told us the problem would be solved simply by flushing the water heater many times. Not only is it a huge waste of money to flush hot water down the drain regularly, but flushing the tank would not address the source of the debris - what issue was causing the debris in our water heater to begin with. When I questioned the plumber on this, he stated that the debris was from either the anode rod (a part in the water heater) or the lining of the water heater. When I pressed the plumber about doing something more than just flushing the water heater, he said his hands were tied and that American Home Shield wouldn't pay for our issue.
I believe the plumber was wrong about our coverage because, according to an email I received from American Home Shield about our water heater claim, we are covered for "Malfunctions due to normal wear and tear, rust or corrosion, or improper installation, repair or modification of the covered item, even if these items aren’t specifically covered under your contract" and "All components and parts, including tankless water heaters and circulation pumps."
I should also note that while the plumber was flushing our water heater, he made a big mess with the water - getting the concrete around the water heater so wet that the water seeped under a wall and onto carpeting. We, of course, had to take time out of our day to clean up after him. The plumber also told us that he was supposed to tell us a big spiel about all the things he touched in our house that we needed to disinfect due to COVID19. But he said he wasn't going to tell us since he had only been at a "safe" place before our appointment - an elderly care facility. As we know, elderly care facilities are huge hot spots for COVID19 - they are definitely not "safe" places. And because he didn't tell me what he touched, I had to take time out of my day to disinfect everything I thought he could have touched in our house.
I am extremely frustrated that this is how American Home Shield does business - that these are the kinds of contractors they use to do their warranty claims. I have no faith in the plumber we were sent, and I would have no faith in any other contractors American Home Shield uses after this experience. And now we are out the $75 service fee with literally no fixes done.
BTW - today on June 22, 2020, I consulted over the phone with our own plumber who we have great faith in. He believes the black chunks and bits in our hot water are magnesium from the magnesium anode rod in the hot water heater becoming so corroded that it is falling apart. He said we could remove the anode rod and flush the water heater well to get all the previous debris out. If there is sufficient room in our utilities room, the 3-4 foot anode rod could be replaced. If it is not replaced, the life of our water heater will be shorter because the lining of the water heater will corrode over time. If the anode rod is so corroded that it has fallen down into the water heater, he said the whole water heater would have to be replaced.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

I placed a call to fix my pool on June 5th. Today is June 22nd. I have yet to get a contractor. They withdrew the deductible right away without any delay. But have never called me once on this matter. I have called them every day to find out the status. It take 45 minutes to one hour. They have been most irresponsible. I have not seen any more poor service than this. They have never called me with updates. I have been treated like trash. My experience this time with them has been the most unsatisfying. I have a lot more to right but it will fill pages with how they have treated me.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I filed a claim for my AC unit last Tuesday. Someone from Myers Comfort Specialist come out and determined it was our compressor. An appointment was set up for Wednesday between 10am-2pm. The technician came out and "replaced" the compressor, in which I paid $345 out of pocket for. My husband and I noticed that our home was HOT Thursday morning, so we called Myers back. A technician was sent out Saturday morning. She came at 8am. Stated she would be back by 11am in the heat of the day to see what was going on. At 1:30pm she had not returned.
I called American Home Shield to update them because I'm concerned at this point. Not only is it my anniversary, but I have an one year old child as well. My home is 95 degrees. I was told there was nothing they could do. I had to contact Myers. Okay. I called Myers and spoke to a young lady with a disgusting and unprofessional attitude, who told me I had to wait, there was nothing she could do and it wasn't her problem. I explained to her we were expecting guest and I just needed an estimate time. She continued to be nasty and nonchalant.
At 3:45am, the technician returned and stated our compressor was "bad." My family and I had already lost a day of events and we were in a 95 degree house because we had to be there when the tech returned. I called American Home Shield back. Of course, they can do nothing about it. I was told the part store closed at 11am Saturday. NO one apologized for the inconvenience except Sabrina who works at Myers as a customer service representative. (I spoke to her after hours.) My family and I have been in a hotel for two nights at our expense. What an anniversary along with bad service and business! This morning I received a call stating we will be seen between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm... ARE YOU SERIOUS????
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

I had a great experience with McCormick Mechanical. They were the contractor American Home Shield sent out for a claim I made. The gentleman who came out was professional and was on time. He knew exactly what he was doing. He was great at communicating everything that he was doing and how he was doing it as well as why he was doing it. He actually gave me some education on the three or four different coolants that are out there currently and what's coming around the corner. He made some recommendations.
He climbed all over the place and got into the attic. He borrowed and used my ladder because I customized it so it doesn’t bang anything. It's a safe ladder. He was great about everything. He kept his mask on and put the booties on. Some of the insulation dropped out of the ceiling in the attic space and he asked if I had a vacuum cleaner. I said yes and he said, “Let me clean this up for you.” I removed it and he cleaned it up. He also found some things that previous vendors had not, which was great. He showed me those. He wasn’t trying to upsell or anything. He did everything he should have done. I asked him for four of his cards just in case and I would definitely recommend it to my friends. I do that when I get a good experience so that when my neighbors and family ask me if I have a good HVAC guy, I would give them the card.
I generally make my claims online as it's a little easier. American Home Shield would say they received my request and that they would get back to me. They would then assign my claim to X vendor and that vendor should call me within two or three days. That’s pretty much what comes across in the email. Within two days, a company called me and asked, “What's a good day for you?” I said the soonest available and they gave me that. They were there ready to go and the tech was 15 minutes early.

I tell a lot of people that they need to get American Home Shield. All you have to do is call them, and they'll take your claim then as soon as you hang up, they send you a memo or an email telling you who they assigned it to. My husband and I really like them because we've had three claims now, and they send someone right away. All we do is pay $75 and that's it. One time, it was very hot here. I did a claim late at night and 5 Star Home Services came as soon as they could, which was the next day right away. They were very nice too.

We were given three different companies along with Home Shield from our Realtor when we bought our house almost three years ago and their pamphlet was very easy to read. It gave everything that we needed to know compared to the other ones. We didn’t feel there were any kind of hidden fees. We were able to call in with Home Shield and they usually go ahead and get it done pretty quick. One time the air wasn’t cooling in the house and we thought that we were losing Freon. Abilene Comfort & Refrigeration determined that when the homeowner built the house, there was a missing piece. The tech said it looked like trash anyway, so it didn’t surprise him that it could have been thrown away. And then there was some kind of other coil that needed to be fixed. He figured out what it was, got it replaced, and he was fantastic.
The only problem that we had is when we called in to talk to somebody in customer service, sometimes we got people who were very hard to understand when we ask questions. I don’t know if Home Shield outsources to a different country or if they have people that speak a different language and that’s perfectly fine, except for, sometimes, it’s very hard for them to understand us, and us to understand them. The other thing that we don’t like is when we do have Freon, which everybody does this, they Home Shield would only pay $10 a gallon. And it’s hard sometimes to come up with the rest when you’re already paying $75 for the visit. But other than that, we really appreciate everything that they have done for us. I recommended them to anybody that comes around. I also recommended them to my sister and she has them now.
Teresa,
Thanks for letting us know how everything worked out for you and thanks for recommending us. We look forward to helping you in the future. Take Care.

I was referred to AHS by my neighbor. I had several small claims with them and they repaired those claims. But they denied my latest claim. It was the first large claim that I had and I didn't know it was that big. The guy from Myers called and told me it was gonna be $2,000 to $6,000. I called AHS and asked would they allow someone else to come out for a second opinion. They said that if the second contractor determined that it was the same issue, then I'd be charged another $100. I got somebody to come in to give me another opinion, which me $89. I called Myers and they told me that AHS denied my claim. When I called AHS several times, they said that somebody was supposed to call me back, but I haven't heard from anybody on why my claim was denied. I'm debating whether I keep them or drop them. I'm not thinking too much of them now when it comes to the larger claims.

AHS's reps are very courteous on the phone. I tell them what the problem is and they usually tell me who they’re gonna try to assign. The contractor would then call me and try to set up an appointment, which I gotta refer to the renter when the contractor would be around. It’s only once in a while that I get a contractor that’s not good. AHS could lower their price or they could add more stuff that they cover. I found out that they don’t cover windows on a house. I keep getting these bills in the mail. AHS would say I owe $88 and I’d call them to say that I paid the full amount. They'd tell me that they got it all straightened out. But this last one, they said that when I paid the full amount, they charged only $400 when I should’ve been charged $500. I just go with whatever they tell me the amount is. I asked them to tell me why they didn't charge me the proper amount. They gotta go to three or four people to try to figure it out.

I had just signed up with Home Shield a month or two prior. My insurance guy talked me into it. Normally, I would not have done that but I recently lost my husband. I thought that I don't need any other problems at the moment and that I better do this to cover myself for a while until things start to calm down in my life and we would go from there. It was a good thing I did because then, the ice maker decided it was gonna go out.
I paid the $400 in full and I figured I paid for the insurance and it covers all that but it didn’t. When I had to make a claim for the ice maker, they said I have to pay $100 for the contractor to come out. I paid the $100 and the guy from Kimbros came out and said my refrigerator is an LG and it needs to be fixed another way. He said he has to go back to the store. And they talked to my girlfriend who was at the house and they never called me and explained anything to me personally.
I told them that by the time I get off, they would probably be closed so if they want me to know anything, they would need to call me and let me know what's going on. I heard nothing. It was ridiculous. It took about another week and a half. They said I have to wait for parts. Then, I was there when they showed up to do the fixing and they didn't call ahead of time. They just showed up. But the service was great. It could have been a little bit better but it wasn't horrible. The unit is working and I'm happy about that.

When the technician from Pamela’s Plumbing came and looked at my faucet, he bypassed the electrical battery box, put it in with straight from the faucet and he had the ability to touch it then. So it come on like it was before. But the touch going off was not available. He said that he needed a battery box and some more parts to it. He also told me I needed to call the company who I bought it from and to order a battery box. But the proper procedure would have been for him to take the information here, the model number and the faucet model and go back and order it. Then when the parts come in, they came and put in. But the contractor was very kind and they had no problem with the work. The technician did a good work here but they didn’t know how to follow up with things as far as completing the claim. To me, they're not how American Home Shield do business.
We have never had a problem with American Home Shield as far as following up on complaints or concerns. They are one of the best. If you have a home and you don’t have American Home Shield as your insurance coverage for appliances and plumbing of the house, then you are missing out on a great blessing. As a customer, it feels really nice. Recently, I called them because there was a leak on a pipe that was falling in my basement. It was getting water in the area. A guy from H2O Maestro came to fix that and he noticed that the sump pumps were running consistently. The pump was stuck and it was not stopping and the backup pump was also damaged. He tried to fix them and see if he could repair them, but it was not possible so he had to replace them. He didn't have the pump with him so he had to call in and go to their shop and come back. He fixed it in one day.

The guy from Specialty Services who came out was really nice. He made my back patio light work, which was the initial request, but there are three switches on this light panel and my side light wasn’t working anymore after he did whatever he did. I had him come back out to fix that and he fixed it. But he was in there doing the wiring and since he had been doing the wiring, my circuit has been breaking. The circuit in my living room and the kitchen would all of a sudden just pop off. He looked at it and he said that might happen but to keep an eye on it. But it just kept on. I’m nervous of a fire of some sort.
He said I have to submit another request because it was a different issue. And he was saying that he doesn’t get paid if he just comes out for a revisit. Also, he mentioned that I could go through another electrical service company. I felt like there was no desire to come back out and fix it. I went on the phone with Home Shield and asked them to send a different contractor. The only thing I have to say was the wait time on the phone is a long time. I waited for an hour on the phone.

I called Home Shield about a plumbing issue and they sent out a plumber. The plumber came back and said they didn't support my hot water heater. The plumber supposedly had contacted or referred to another organization and they did not contact me so I had to reach out to Home Shield to figure out who that was. They came out, eventually, and they said that they couldn't support that particular hot water heater as well. We spent $75 on a service and I ended up having to call a plumber from the outside and paid separately. I couldn't contact Home Shield. I would stay on the call for 30 minutes just trying to reach somebody. And I'm trying to cancel my service and I'm having a hard time doing that. I can't do it online.
They could have a better way to digitally allow a customer to cancel their subscription or be able to put in some type of comment or some call me back type of arrangement so we could speak. Calling their mainline number is not getting anywhere for anybody. Even the plumber service that was referred by Home Shield couldn't even contact them to get approval for our garbage disposal for our sink. We later learned that that was not covered or something and we couldn't call Home Shield to discuss with them. They continue to charge me monthly and I can't complain. I can't say anything and I can't challenge them. I can't even get my refund for the plumber that came out that didn't do any work.
I've been with Home Shield for maybe seven years and they've never been the greatest but it's been tolerable. It's been kind of a hit and miss. But this last time was an incredibly terrible service. I've gotten to the point where I can't tolerate it anymore. And I can't complain and their online portal doesn't give a way to really reflect what my thoughts are. I'm hoping that one day in the near future, I can cancel my subscription.

Our claim all worked out well when the AC was not cooling. We’d have it at 70 and it would be 78 in here. The contractor did a great job. Once they replaced everything they thought they could, it still was having problems. That was when they deemed it irreparable. The technicians were great. They were quick to come out. When parts got ordered, they came quickly. My experience with them was good. Everything that AHS dealt with has been fine. The contractors were very informative and answered all my questions as much as I would be nagging them while they were doing their work. They showed up on time, if not, early for appointments. But most of the time, I use the website and it's pretty friendly and fast. The contractors they use follow through well also. I just want American Home Shield not to increase their rates every renewal because I've seen other companies with whom every time we renew, the rate goes up. Everything is working fine and I haven't had any trouble.
I was telling my daughter before I had the ac fixed that on a day like today, when it's 90 degrees I used to have to have my unit on about higher than 72. And it would consistently run, run, run to keep the house cool. I've had it on 76 degrees since the day it was fixed. And it cuts off like it's supposed to. And 76 is very, very comfortable in here. So the ac is tremendously better.

I have an open claim with American Home Shield. It's for my dryer. Sears came out and looked at it then ordered another barrel. My unit is supposed to be fixed this Friday and I had an appointment from 8:00 to 12:00. They had mentioned that the barrel should be delivered but it didn’t show up. I didn’t receive a call so I called Sears back on Friday morning to see what the story was. They told me that the appointment had been canceled because the part hadn’t come in. But nobody had relayed that to me. There was no follow-up communication to me about the delay and I had a schedule on my text from Sears for that time. I’m disappointed with that. I had taken off work to be at home waiting for someone to call me or tell me the status. I ended up figuring out the status, which is that the barrel is still on backorder. I’m kinda at a standstill right now. It has not been the best experience.

The guy that came out for our recent claim with AHS was really nice. It turned out it was a pilot error. We didn't have a repair needed. We just didn't have the water connected the way that we needed to. The last service repair was excellent. AHS was timely and they responded quickly. The repair before that, which was also on the washing machine for the spin function, was a cluster. They got back to me right away and came out, but then the contractors said they needed to order a part. Then it was a month, they never contacted us to say, “Hey, this is what's happening,” or “This is when we’ll be back.” I had to keep hounding them about, “When are you coming back?” I don’t know what happened there, but something happened and that was just not the communication that we should’ve had.

American Home Shield was outstanding. I called in my claim and it went very well even though it took about an hour (I waited on the phone for about 50 minutes). When Swift Appliance Repair came out, the guy was very good because he took one of the units’ capacitor out and replaced it. It took him 45 minutes and he fixed the unit. It’s been working ever since.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

When I closed on the house, the Realtor ended up having the sellers buy me my first year with Home Shield. I used them a couple of times and had a great turnout with them. A few weeks ago, I called because it seemed like my AC wasn't cooling right. I had my house running at 70. World Class AC came out twice and they checked the main unit temperature and they said it's good. And they checked the Freon and said it's good. They're super nice and polite. But the tech never checked my coils on the AC unit and they were clogged, frozen, and broken. I had another AC company coming out because my unit was still not working. It flooded my house. The last AC guy just found out and now, I have to rip up all my living room floors and replace them. I had to cut walls out because of mold.
Also, I would like Home Shield's site to be able to let me choose more things without it charging me. My AC unit was leaking but I couldn't say it was leaking into the ducts that it's connected to. For me to put ductwork, I have to put in another claim instead of being able to put both. And I tried to call and I was on hold for 45 minutes. Twice, I got disconnected after a 45-minute hold and then had to call back with another 30 minutes for operator to pick up. I understand everything going on right now. It's just not as easy as picking up the phone and calling. I think I'm gonna be dealing with a lot of headaches after spending time on the phone and American Home Shield not wanting to fix this part of the problem. They want me to pay another claim a third time.

The AC was making a very high, squeaking sound and it would work for about 20 minutes then, it would stop working. If I turn it off for a day, the next day it would work again and then stop, so we just turned it off. I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield and it was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. The first time the contractor came and looked at it, they turned it on and everything was fine. They said nothing was wrong with it. I wasn’t here and it takes 20 minutes or even longer so I talked to them and they told me to record what it was doing. It showed that night. I turned the AC back on and it went for a couple of hours and started doing it again. So, I recorded it and sent it to them. They came back within a day and fixed it. Everything was great with AHS.

I called American Home Shield via the phone to submit a claim and went through the recording. The recording said the contractor would be out within the 24 hours and that eventually, they were gonna contact me. The guy from Ace Plumbing was there within the 24 hours. He came out in a reasonable amount of time and was very respectful and professional. I told him what was going on and I showed him exactly what my situation was. He knew automatically what was going on. He was clean too. He brought in his equipment and then took care of my issue in a reasonable amount of time. I was real satisfied with how my situation was taken care of. I had a major clog going on down in my basement so the repair was very necessary.

I have two recent claims with AHS, one for the water heater and one for the air conditioner. The air conditioner is scheduled tomorrow. The water heater technician already came to my house to check the water heater. It was a tankless water heater. The problem is we feel like, sometimes, the water temperature is not stable. He said currently the water heater is not capable of flushing, so they need to install some tool so we can flush it like every year to keep it functional. They didn’t fix that. We just get a quote from them. We haven’t decided whether to go with that solution yet. But the technician was on time. He was not like an expert on the tankless water heater though, so, he called back to his company to ask the other experts.

Our 2nd refrigerator went out on a Wednesday, Saturday a very inexperience technician came out to tell us that it needed Freon but it had to be approved by American Home Shield. Not a problem, Thursday my husband had to call the company to which we were told they were still waiting on approval to see if the refrigerator was covered. My husband called American home shield found out yes it was covered. Fast forward to three weeks later and we’re still waiting for service. When we called out to American home shield we were told we could not get another service Provider out here without having to pay another service fee. Customer service read from a script they don’t resolve issues and when you asked to speak to a supervisor nobody is available. American home shield is the worst warranty in America and I don’t see how they stay in business. They are useless.

I had a plumbing claim with Home Shield and ASAP Plumbing Service came out. The man was very knowledgeable. He had to order the parts and it took about 10 days. I wish it would’ve gotten right away. The issue was not flooding the house or anything like that but I needed to wipe it down constantly and put a little bucket. Then, the tech came back and installed the part. Also, he was wearing a mask and he was keeping his distance. Everything has been working properly.
But I was so dissatisfied last year with Home Shield. My AC went out and they would send somebody. The contractor would fix it and the unit would give out in two days. And then I would have to wait for another appointment. They would send somebody out and they said they would fix it. It would last one day and it would go out. Also, every time I would call and say they are taking too long to fix it and I wanna talk to a manager, they would try their best not to connect me to a manager. They would say that they have to follow the procedure. And even then when I talk to a manager, they would just say they already have somebody coming over. They gave me the runaround.
It took three companies and it took them about three months. We were without AC and we had to use some of those electric window units. And the ones that the condensation builds up so we had to be dragging the unit to the shower to drain it with the hose. I just haven’t set myself to changing home warranty companies. But I don’t know which company to get and I’m holding on with these people because they already know my experience.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

We went through American Home Shield for a claim and they had someone come out. But they never ordered the part or they never sent it. We kept calling and went through seven weeks without our microwave. AHS then said we would start again and they sent out Busy Bee. It was wonderful and the microwave got taken care of within a week or two. The initial problem was the microwave would make a really loud noise. A part was ordered and the tech replaced it. We love them and the tech was great. They were very quick and efficient.
But the microwave is not working right. It's like every other day. It just did it this morning, as a matter of fact, and I got all the notes on it. We were about to call AHS to let them know that the microwave plate sometimes won't turn inside and it won't heat. The food or coffee cup would just sit there and it won't go off. And you can try to push it off but it won't stop. The only way you can get it to stop is to open the door. You'll then try again and it will work. There are other couple of problems with it that after we had finished and we take it out, we turn it off and take the food out then it'll start going again. There are odd things like that but these are the two main things that keep happening every few days. We've been so caught up with doing stuff that we keep forgetting to call AHS about it. This morning, I made a note to call and put it on the counter.
AHS' contractors have been great, kind, and careful. In fact, one fellow was so neat. We were supposed to keep our distance but we kept getting close. We just wanted to be a part of it. The tech did a thorough check, came up with the problem, and went right back and ordered up a part. He said they would set up and he would come out Tuesday. That was the Monday or Tuesday before. We were confident that was going to happen and the tech let us know when the part would in, he would be out and he would call when he got here. It was flawless and excellent service. I even wrote Busy Bee down and said we are gonna request it. For this experience, AHS wouldn't get back with us. They wouldn't help us much so it was at seven weeks. They did not take care of us well enough for this one. They just wouldn't respond. Although they helped us work through it and they tried different things, it was only a halfway thing.

We have two policies and when I go online to look at my second policy, which is for my vacation home, it won't let me just transfer over to the other one. Plus, some of the people helping me, although they’ve been very kind and courteous, their English has not been so great. The language barrier has been a bit challenging. I’ve been in my house since April 13th and there's a leak in my plumbing. I made a request and it was very easy other than the fact that American Home Shield has those drop-down menus where they had certain things one had to pick from. Someone could try to put information on it, but since I didn’t know where the leak was coming from (if it was leaking from the wall, the water heater or an appliance), I just tried to put it underneath the thing I thought was the closest. I also don't know how long the leak had been going on because there were three layers of tile and the water was underneath. When I started pulling apart the baseboard to put some tile down, that was when I noticed that it was wet behind my refrigerator. That’s where my water softener and my water heater is.
D & B Plumbing Service came out and they were very timely. They've been able to get out when I needed them to. There was a small pinhole leak in one of my pipes that was spraying out and the guy fixed it. I have another leak in there somewhere, so they are coming back out on Thursday to take a look and find out where it is. All in all, it was a very good experience. The plumber is very nice. They had some bad reviews on BBB, but he has done a really good job.

Before we got hooked up online, submitting a claim to American Home Shield was very difficult. We were on hold for an hour or two to get somebody. The first time I submitted a claim, I found out I got the wrong person. Now, we go online and tell their system what our problem is and that's quicker than before. AHS's contractors have come out pretty quickly for me. There was one day when we got worried because our toilet was plugged. Still, we found what the plug was and that issue got eliminated in a hurry.
Some time ago, their contractor, Quality Plumbing and Drain came out for my sump pump. That time, I found out that my sump pump was doing what it was supposed to do. I just didn't know it would be running that much. Apparently, we’re up enough on a hill and water comes down and fills up our thing. When it rains, it fills up even more. The sump pump would be running every 12 seconds. It scared me a little ‘cause I've never been with a sump pump before.
More recently, Quality came back again to take care of two of our issues. First, we had tried to hook up our washer and water was spraying out of the handles so we had to shut that back off. The tech had to do something to the handles so that water didn't squirt out of there. Secondly, we found out that someone never hooked up the train to our sink. We used it and the water dropped out. The gentleman who came out for Quality both times we've had them has done very well. He was punctual and he explained things to me. He was professional and very courteous.

The contractor didn’t come out for a few days. When he did come out, somehow he got it going. The air wasn’t blowing. It was coming real lightly and it was warmish, not cool air. When he opened the unit, it needed to be cleaned and it needed a new fan. I said, “While you’re here, why don’t you just clean it?” He then had to come back and put the new fan in.

I normally put in claims with Home Shield online and it's pretty easy. But whenever I do call, it’s usually long hold times. They could decrease their hold times or they could have a setup like some companies where you have the option to not have to sit on hold. They kinda put you in a queue and they call you back when your time comes up. Other than that, I’ve always had the items fixed anytime I’ve put in a claim. They’re pretty dependable in that regard. One time, my refrigerator stopped working and it was handled pretty well. I took two visits for it to get it fixed but I kinda understood that.

The tech from Liberty Appliance Repair was very professional and helpful. He had to come out twice. Once, he fixed the ice maker and the cooling unit itself. On the second time he had to come out to bring a sensor to make sure that the problem did not reoccur. I called wanting to make sure we have coverage and they said it had expired two or three months prior and that I was sent an email. I renewed it and then about two months after that, I called them about my microwave. They asked if there was anything else that was not working properly and I told them my freezer wasn't freezing. It was working like a refrigerator. They said they would take a look at both items and they addressed them both. That was pretty cool. I was only looking to fix one item and they fixed two.
My last claim was there was something about the fan inside the freezer and it wasn’t blowing anymore. The unit was getting cold but it just wasn’t pushing out the cold air. I filed a claim with Home Shield and Accord came out. The guy was really good, very personable, respectful, efficient, and quick. It’s more than what I expected. I didn't know it would be so easy. I have also had a claim for my dishwasher, a rekeying service, and the HVAC furnace. I wished, however, that the person who checked the furnace would have ran some test. He just stood and looked at it. As with the guy who did the dishwasher, on the other hand, I wished he would have done a little bit more too.
But, overall, American Home Shield has been good. I like the idea that the people seemed very professional, that the people that they bring seemed like they know what they are doing pretty much, which is very important to me because I am not a expert and I need to have someone to say, “It could be this, it could be that,” and then try to fix it like different vendors that they had come over to just that.

Last year, we had Sevier come out and they were supposed to have done work but it never lasted. I ended up spending $2,800 out of my own pocket on the air conditioner system. It stopped working and I went to AHS to request another service. They sent out another company. The contractor said Sevier never did this and that right. They eventually got it done and we got to the bottom of the problem but there were a few problems. The fix lasted less time than the original fix. The air conditioner kept leaking Freon. The contractor would come, I would pay the $125 for the call out and then I would end up having to pay for Freon, depending on what the market value was at that time.
Once the weather started to heat up, it happened again this year. It seems that we got to the bottom of it this time. I complained to Sevier and they sent Russell, a supervisor, out. He got to the bottom of it. He replaced the filter and pumped up the Freon and so far, it seems to be working. When I was going through all the trouble with the air conditioning, I worked with a lady called Danielle. I got in contact with her through social media and she was excellent. She called the company and got it all sorted. The air conditioner has been a pain but when used AHS for a broken washer, the service was flawless. The guy came out and said that the washer was too old. The part was ordered. Within an hour, I got a phone call that said, "Here's your buyer offer." I'm happy with AHS.

AHS's cost keeps going up. However, filing claims with them has usually been an easy process and recently, they have been sending people more quickly. The quality of the work done has been good. When the toilet in my master bedroom wasn’t flushing, the technician came out and resolved it. I keep having issues with the toilet and when I asked a technician if I should replace my toilet, he advised not to because even though mine was older, it had fewer problems than some of the newer ones that he’d seen. Sometime last year, I had an electrical issue and I had to call them twice. The first time the technician made repairs, we thought it was fixed, but then less than 30 days later, the same problem occurred. On the second time, they sent two people. I talked to them about what was going on and then they determined that it was a different problem.

I would recommend American Home Shield because it’s really good if something breaks down and you don’t have the money. You just pay one-time fee, which is great. I’ve been a customer for a long time. I call and speak to a customer service rep to submit claims and I haven't had any problems with them. Champs Heating came out and I got my air condition back up and running. But sometimes there’s a slow process when items need to be fixed. The contractors wouldn't have parts and it may be weeks and weeks. One time, my furnace went out in the wintertime and it was so cold. It was almost a month before they could fix it. American Home Shield gave me an opportunity and told me to buy two heaters. I purchased the two heaters and they repaid me my money but it took a long time and I had to contact them several times for that. If they can do things faster, customers will really be satisfied, especially in the wintertime.
Then there's another thing. I think the coverage says that when it comes to air conditioning, you can have three things on one service call. But when the service person comes out, sometimes, they're not concerned about the other products. They want you to submit a separate claim for each issue. But sometimes people don’t have the money for separate claims for each one. So American Home Shield is good to have when it comes to having your appliances taken care of as long as the contractors know what they're supposed to do and how they're supposed to do it.

I'm old and retired. If something like an icebox went out, I wouldn’t have to spend $1,500 for it because supposedly, if American Home Shield can’t fix it, they’ll replace it. The warranty is $50 a month, which is not terrible. That’s the main reason I got it. I've used AHS for about five times and I've been satisfied every time. All Appliance Parts did a simple fix on the icemaker. The tech took about 10 minutes.

American Home Shield had better service plus more things were covered with them other than some of the other companies that I was looking at. Plus, I wanted to have septic coverage. I went with AHS and one time, I submitted a claim over the phone. The phone system was asking for a description of what my problem was and it gave me five seconds to describe it. I couldn't do that in five seconds so I just hung up the phone. I did it online after that instead. The guy who came from Taylor Mechanical which was sent by AHS was a good serviceman.

I was with American Home Shield once before for a long length of time. I went to another company that I wasn’t very pleased with, and came back. InAir Heating and Air Conditioning came and it was awesome. After the initial issue went on with the AC for some time, they resolved the matter and I was very pleased. I do not have any difficulty with AHS' claims process at all. It's just the one contractor at one point I had a problem with. Their integrity was off. They changed their phone number but AHS resolved that. The young lady that helped me kept all of her promises to me. It took a while, but the ending results was better and beyond.

American Home Shield has been all right, but their claims process is too time-consuming sometimes. We can submit the claim as quickly as we want to. But between the time the claim is accepted and the time someone is assigned to us, there can be quite a delay depending on who you are assigned to. In most cases, it looks like they only have one vendor in an area. So that, if one person says, “Hey, I cannot get there to fix your whatever for three days,” it would be nice if they defaulted to another one. Nevertheless, the contractor Airboss Mechanical did all right. They have been out a number of times -- unfortunately, air conditioners are a big thing in Florida.

When I went to turn the dishwasher on, it wouldn't power on. My husband went down to the breaker to see if it flipped. He turned the breaker off and turned it back on. I then hit the power button and the dishwasher got power to it, but it said to add salt. This dishwasher is not one that you add salt to. I tried to do the manual reset where you hold the on/off and the start for three seconds, and it wouldn't do anything.
When the Sears guy came out, he didn't really do anything with it. He sat on his knees, looked at his phone, and looked at the dishwasher. Then he looked underneath the thing to see where it was plugged in. I said that it was not plugged in underneath the sink. It was plugged in behind the unit. He asked if we checked to see if the breaker flipped. I said that that was the first thing my husband did.
He went back to looking at his phone and I thought, "Are you gonna take this thing out?" He then unscrewed the panel at the bottom of the dishwasher, but he did not pull the dishwasher out and didn't do anything to it. He then put the panel back on. He said that he gotta go out to his vehicle. He was out there for 20 minutes, then he cames and said that AHS was gonna call me in about 24 to 48 hours. He recommended that the dishwasher be replaced. His educated guess was that the control board where you hit the start button needed to be replaced.
I was taking notes and asked if he had the part number for the control board. He gave it to me. We're supply people and my husband found the parts breakdown for our specified dishwasher. The part number the contractor gave does not go to the model number of the dishwasher. I called back on the same day that Sears came out and asked if they could send somebody out. I would hate for them to spend money on something if the contractor has the wrong number. The lady' said that it was It's already out for replacement. I asked if somebody could call me back and she said no because he said that part number for the control board was not available.
I asked if somebody could call me back and she said that the supervisor will be in on Saturday. Nobody called on Saturday and nobody called on Sunday. I called back on Monday and it was so busy. They had the option to call you back and two hours later, the phone rings to let me know that somebody was coming on the line. I was told that I needed to talk to the appliance department. The person said that she was gonna transfer me over.
Two hours later, I'm on the phone and on hold. The person from the appliance department got on and said that we've already been approved for a replacement. I was said that I was trying to help them out because the part that would fix the dishwasher was only $110. Nobody wanted to listen to me. It turned out that I have to get a new dishwasher. They said that they were gonna send me the model and I said that I have a Bosch. They said they didn't deal with Bosch. They sent me the replacement they suggested, which was a KitchenAid. My appliances were black and theirs was stainless steel. I said that I didn't want that.
I did the research and said my other appliances were GE and that I'd look at a GE brand. I called back the next day with the different GE models that I would find acceptable. They said they didn't have those either. I was told that I was gonna have to go out on the market. I went to Home Depot and purchased the dishwasher. I then submitted the claim to be reimbursed for it. I had up to $915 and I paid $925 and the dishwasher will be delivered this Thursday. We've been without a dishwasher for almost a month.
I'm very dissatisfied with the whole Sears experience. I wouldn't recommend them to repair items. When we had a refrigerator and had a claim put in, they kept changing out the same part on the refrigerator. Every month, the refrigerator kept going out and AHS kept sending Sears. They said that with LG, it was Sears. I will refuse to purchase an LG appliance ever again. Because if I have to deal with Sears, I won't do it. Right now, I have a washer and dryer that are both LG. If it turns up with an error code and if it was something easy, I'm not calling AHS to have somebody come out.

Please be careful of this company, the worst service and they service out their repairs to a company that doesn't even look at the item and goes back and says it was the consumers fault so of course the item is not covered. Appliance Express had to come back for two or three times for my appliance issue. The guy did not have the part -- it was one of those things in life where you just could not carry all the parts. But, it eventually got done. When they came out to repair it once they got the actual piece, it took them three hours in one shot. Then they had to come back in another couple of hours, and came back at the end and wrapped it all up. The guy was very professional, and he knew what he was doing. He was courteous, too. They were very careful about coming in the house, and he cleaned up after he worked. They did a fine job. American Home Shield is fantastic, and I love it because I do not have to worry about any surprises -- they are taken care of. Also, AHS does not argue about it. They fix it and that is it. It is not like they would say that they do not cover that and that is not part of the warranty. So I like it. I will always be a member.

We started a claim for the stove on 5/22 and I have called Home Shield, sometimes, three times a week. On 6/12, I was on the line and on hold from 1:08 to 3:40. On 6/18, I spoke with Mara and she assured me that she would not leave me hanging like all the others did. She said she would call me back and keep me informed but that didn’t happen. Seven calls I have made on this with people promising to take care of it and call me back. The people in the Philippines were telling me they can’t transfer my call. Also, I talked to an escalation team and they were gonna get it taken care of and refund my deductible. But they never called back.
This morning, I called at 7:15 and I got a girl named Kelly who is in Georgia and she was very nice. She put me on hold, called Sears, and told me that Sears has to call them for a replacement. They cannot email, because I spoke with Sears and they copied me on an email they had sent American Home Shield. This girl set up for Sears to come again Wednesday. And I’m gonna have the tech to call Home Shield while he is in my kitchen because he told me this is probably what would happen and to not let American Home Shield take advantage of me because this has been going on for a while. I've been with Home Shield for two years and I have steered people toward them. But one called and canceled because of this. The customer service was horrible.

We turned on the air and it would run okay for a while then it would go off. After making a claim, American Home Shield had Nova HVAC out. The tech got it on and it worked for about a week but it went off again. The tech seemed to think that it wasn't the air. He said that the air conditioner itself was in good condition and perhaps it was something to do with the electric. We thought he was gonna tell American Home Shield to send an electrician out but he didn't.
As a result, I called American Home Shield and I had to pay another service fee to have an electrician come out. That was another $100 after I had paid for the air conditioner. The rep said if the tech had told them that he thought it was another issue, we wouldn't have had to pay the additional 100. The electrician that came out wasn't sure what the problem was. Since the unit kept tripping, we asked him if could he change the fuse. He did that and he seemed to think it was maybe the air conditioner pump.
But we said we would just change the fuse because we had the yard light and also a backlight on the same fuse and it was still flickering. I asked him to check that and he did. He said something needed to be replaced on the light and that he would come back. But we haven't seen him since. That was last week. He told my husband that the top needed to be replaced. But when we called him back, he said they were waiting on American Home Shield to give them an approval. I asked if it could be this week to which he replied he was hoping as well. But it wasn't and we're in another week now. I haven't heard anything.
I've yet to call American Home Shield about this. I usually call them and they say the call is in queue and you have to stay on hold for about 15 minutes before you speak with anyone. It's so hard now to get in touch with them. American Home Shield needs to do a better job of following up. When people make a service call and pay the $100, they should stay in touch with the customer each step of the way and say, "Oh, okay. And they reported back that they visited on this day. Were you satisfied with that? Is it complete?" I have a renewal for them coming up but I'm not so sure now that I wanna renew with them because this electric thing is hanging out there.
Jacqueline,
Thanks for speaking with me to confirm we were able to resolve your issue. I have sent an email to you regarding your request. Please respond to that email at your earliest convenience.

The fans would only make the noise when it's hot and it was cool in the morning when he first showed up. He said to just let him know if the noise started up. We called back later that same day and told him it had started up again. He got up in there, checked it out, and made some adjustments. The decision was that the fans were probably not functioning correctly and they were replaced.

Having a home warranty is extremely important and I really appreciate everything that American Home Shield has been doing. All the contractors that have been sent out so far have been very professional and do a great job. I haven’t had a problem with any of them. I like who American Home Shield is working with. The guy that came out for our sink was fantastic. He was very professional. He fixed the problem very quickly. This is the fifth person I’ve had come out using American Home Shield, so it’s been really great.
The only thing that I’d do a little different is before the contractors come out, they should know what coverage we have. When they come out and don’t know what’s covered or not, they don’t know exactly what they can do. When the guy came out, he didn’t know certain electrical things were covered under the policy. It also seemed that each contractor that’s been out has said that they have to stay on hold for a long time with American Home Shield just to find out the coverage.

For the most part, interactions with the AHS reps have been good. We’ve had fairly quick responses and the situations got remedied. But we had one issue, which I wasn’t pleased with. We called AHS, told them exactly what the issue with the pool heater was, and paid. When the guy came in he said that the pool heater was not under warranty. I called AHS back and they said, “Sorry, we don’t cover those.” They could’ve told me. When I asked for my $75 deposit back, they said they couldn't do that. I do everything online when I file a claim and if I have to call, I get someone on the phone pretty quickly. And they send out some good companies. A guy even had to have my heater replaced and he was wonderful. My latest claim was for a refrigerator and the person that came out the first time told me misleading information. He told me that I had needed some Freon and I would have to go replace my refrigerator.
I was in the process of looking for another refrigerator but when the Sears guy came out, he said I didn’t need a new one. He showed me why I just had to have my coils cleaned. He said American Home Shield wouldn't approve it but he showed me how to do it and I did it with a vacuum cleaner. He even helped me pull out the refrigerator so I could do it. When I did that, he was correct. There was nothing wrong with my refrigerator. It’s working perfectly.

The first experience was very good. The faucet needed to be fixed and it was fixed very fast. But the second experience is the opposite. I placed the order on May 30th and according to Prime Plumbing Services, they ordered the parts. The parts came some days after but I called on the 17th and the parts had not arrived yet. I called last week and then they scheduled the day to do the fixing. It’s gonna be July 1st.
As of now, the issue is still not fixed and it’s not a complicated thing. I’m not an expert but this thing has taken more than a month. The bad thing with this is that I have not gotten any feedback at all – not from the plumber company and not from American Home Shield. I have to be calling all the time to get the status of my order. They collect the payment super quick but after that, it’s gone. You need to be doing your follow-up and your phone calls. I'm wasting time on the phone for Home Shield. I’ve been on the waiting for 1 hour 45 minutes. This is crazy.

American Home Shield sent Georgia Boy Electric. The tech explained when he got here that the part of my garage door that was broken was not the part that was covered under my warranty, which was half expected. I wasn’t sure which part of the garage door opener are covered. And it was actually one of the balance cables that had gotten funky. He came and fixed it. He still finished the service with us to our satisfaction even though it wasn’t covered. We didn’t pay for it through American Home Shield. So I’m thinking about upgrading my plan here to cover a bit more.
But AHS had our AC fixed last summer. Everything so far has been very good. They’ve fixed everything they’ve come out for with the exception of a water heater, which was outside the range of service. The ceiling fan works and the leaking in my toilet. I’ve had success in electrical, plumbing and appliance repairs. Their contractors also came out and fixed my dryer.
Every contractor that we’ve been put in touch with has done an excellent job, and has been quick and polite. And they are elusive. I would never had found Georgia Boy Electric. It’s virtually unheard of on the internet. When you pull up the address on Google map it shows you an empty cornfield. It’s so strange. But the person who came out was perfectly polite. And he answered the call, and I got the updates via text. I like that I feel I’m still supporting small and local businesses. Most of the people who have come out have not been from large chains. So I appreciate that. I’m glad I’m supporting the local economy and not just some multi-billion dollar corporation. So, I’m super pleased with all the contractors that have been sent out.
AHS came as a recommendation from one of my roommates’ parents. So, this is a word-of-mouth meeting of business. It all is word-of-mouth. I was fretting about concerns of incoming storms when my roommate’s mom mentioned at dinner while we were visiting, “Well, don’t you have a home warranty?” And I was like, “No.” And she’s like, “Well, you should.” And not a week after my contract with AHS started the air conditioner went out. It was very fortuitous. I was able to get it fixed so quickly.

My air conditioner was running for about two days, then it wasn’t getting cold. I didn’t even call American Home Shield, I went on their website and set it up. They sent me an email back saying that they had gotten ahold of a service provider and that he would be getting ahold of me in 24 hours. The technician called and set up an appointment time when he would be here. He came out, looked at it and he said that the Freon was low. So, he went back to his truck, got some Freon and charged it up. The air conditioner has been working fine ever since. I purchased this house last year and the seller bought me a year’s coverage from American Home Shield. I renewed it again for another year. The home I bought is 20 years old and it has its original air conditioner, furnace and water heater. So, I was a little leery and I wanted some protection if something like that goes out. So, I’ve told my friends that they should get in touch with AHS also.

I contacted AHS about a preventative maintenance screening. I was sent through an automated prompt system, but I wound up talking to a live person. She handled herself professionally. I was given a four-hour window as to when to expect the contractor. The contractor's service was great. AHS is nice to have. I felt like we needed a warranty for home protection, which was why I got it. It's a good company. They are about their work.

My tenant called about a toilet issue which she said had happened before. When they flush it, the water would come up and go down slowly. The guy across the street had come over and tried to plunge it, and it did go down. But then the toilet kept doing it. Patriot Plumbing came out and snaked it. It was in her son’s bathroom and the guy said maybe a toy went down there.
I like the website. When there's a claim, the tenant would text me and say what the issue is. Then I would submit the claim online. The only problem is that although the automatic payment is okay, taking the payment right away is not a good thing when the contractor doesn't go when they're supposed to or when the contractor gets there and doesn't find something. By then, I would have already submitted the claim. I would wanna cancel it but American Home Shield had already taken my money. I can understand if the payment comes out two or three days later but not when you're submitting a claim and the payment is already pending.
You can also never get through when you are trying to handle the properties. I'm waiting two hours to talk to somebody. They should be a little bit more accessible when a paying customer is trying to call and get through. In addition to that, why can’t I call somebody on a Saturday or Sunday and get something done? That's one way American Home Shield can set themselves apart from everybody else. If they can get a contractor that will work seven days a week, the prices could be higher but that would maximize their profit. American Home Shield can also increase the number of their contractors as far as reaching out to small businesses, like veteran-owned businesses.
I also have no clue why American Home Shield got 8 of my very old 10-year old numbers. Every time, I ask where they get the number from and they say it's in their database. I have three properties on there. All three should have the same billing address and they should have my number on there. I would normally tell the contractor to call the tenant as well.
I've been with American Home Shield for more than 10 years and it’s a plus having them because I got three properties with them. But there are some things that could be tweaked, like the payment method and the contractors they’re dealing with. Just recently, Neblett Construction went out to a property and my tenant was in Virginia without AC for three weeks. I don't know how they say they do AC but they went out there and American Home Shield never told me if the AC had low Freon, low pressure or high pressure. I didn’t know what was going on. But I know American Home Shield deals with a lot.

Had AHS for years and didn’t have complaints in the past but something changed within the last year. They rarely answer the phone, you’re on hold forever without a chance to call back, and they don’t answer messages within a timely manner (like 3 or more days). As I am writing this I have been on hold for nearly an hour. The past 3 contractors they have assigned us have horrific reviews online and when requesting a new one they said that they cannot switch. It seems like they’re trying to cut costs by having no customer service agents available and hiring the cheapest (and worst) technicians. Unfortunately will be looking into switching to a new provider.

Horrible service! Would give it NO stars if possible. We had issues with our refrigerator and nothing. Initially reported in early May, American Home Shield has ignored us and we are still waiting for a new refrigerator to be delivered. As I'm writing this review, I've been on hold for status on our delivery for over TWO HOURS!!! It's like they want you to hang up or no further pursue the issue. American Home Shield came to pick up my old fridge and has not delivered new one. I strongly recommend another company for I more likely will be doing same thing and maybe file a police report. There is no communication with their subcontractors plus we were told by American Home Shield that WE are the ones the needed to contact delivery service. Overall unprofessional, unapologetic, and very irresponsible. My husband and I are very disappointed.

I placed a service call on June 4 2020 for my refrigerator not cooling properly. The GE service agent showed up on June 6 2020. The temperature on the fridge was 60 degrees. He checked a few things and said those things looked good. He told me to turn off the fridge for 48hrs and that should solve the problem. If it didn't then call and they will come back and change out some parts that he'll order. I did what he said and the problem remained. I called GE service and they said the parts are back ordered until almost end of the month for me to call AHS and see if they can escalate getting the parts or replace the refrigerator.
I called AHS (after two days of trying), Finally got someone who looked into it and said GE will come out on June 29, 2020 to replace the parts. Now keep in mind the timeline here. It will be about a month of not having a properly working refrigerator. I called AHS again to see if they could escalate and was told the best choice is to keep the June 29th appointment or call GE to escalate. So I'm having to call AHS and GE service to try and get this fixed. Meanwhile, I have had to throw away food and cannot buy groceries for obvious reasons so I'm having to buy food for each day. Who can live without a refrigerator for more than a day or two these days...This is so ridiculous and frustrating. Placing a service call with AHS is amazing and quick, but if you have a pending issue following up is not so easy. Very challenging. A very frustrated customer.
We do apologize for the delay in service. We would like to thank you for providing your experience with us. We would love to speak with you in terms of a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

American Home Shield happily took my "membership fee" for several years. However, when I had a dryer begin overheating, they said it could not be fixed. They charged $60 for that service call, where the guy spent two minutes looking at it, said AHS would be in touch, and when I followed up, told me it was not worth fixing. And it was my tough luck.
The same thing happened when my Jenn-Air stove top needed to be fixed. The guy showed up, spent a couple minutes, and gave me the same song and dance. Finally, the central A/C unit south, and they said they would either give me $200 to put towards a new compressor, or not charge me the $60 service call. Come to find out if the contractors recommend the needed repair, AHS drops them like a bad habit. Eventually there was a class action suit against AHS, and it was settled out of court. We never saw a dime, and I do not know if anybody else did either. I would warn friend and enemy alike to avoid this company at all costs.

Home Shield stands behind their promotions. I've had Home Shield over the years in rentals and homes I've purchased. I've used them in the past and they have been responsive, and I've not had any major hassles with them over the years. The technician seemed to know what he was talking about. It ended up that my issue was not with the unit itself. The unit is working great. The vibration is in the wall. But Home Shield would not cover the required work so I had to pay out of my pocket back to Vail to get that done. But I'm satisfied. What counts is it doesn't vibrate anymore. That's what counts. I had a friend that had one of AHS' competitors and he filed a claim and he came up almost $1,000 short on what he needed out of his pocket. So I told him, "You didn't ask, but I told you Home Shield." He knows it all. Everybody ought to have a home warranty at least the first year of homeownership.

We've used them a couple of times to fix some issues with our appliances and it has been very easy and everyone that we've used so far has been very polite and nice. Everything went great with Sears. They were able to fix everything pretty quickly and the guy that came out stayed pretty much to himself, which was great to us. Everything was great with the contractor and the air conditioning looks wonderful. 95% of the service with American Home Shield has been fantastic. I'm pleased and I'll probably have it for another five years as long as I'm in the house. There are just some things that are tough and not necessarily explained but it's my fault for not knowing more about the insurance and how the warranty works. The issues that I've had would cost more to do everything that was needed in order for them to put something in rather than hiring someone and just having them put it in. Or I had an electricity problem and they were willing to fix it but it goes inside of the wall. So, I needed to cut open a hole in the wall to fix what was wrong with the switch. They wanted to fix it but the proximate costs are not really what the insurance suggested.

My realtor purchased the first home warranty that I had and it wasn't any good. They kept messing up stuff. So, I called him and told him about it. He said he was gonna go online, look at ratings, and get me a new one. We canceled that warranty and got this one from American Home Shield. So far, my experience with them has been great and I'm very happy. Submitting claims has been very easy and for the recent issue I had, I did it online and had no problems. Then, someone called me and we got everything sent up. Everything went really smoothly and AHS handled my claim perfectly. The contractors had to order parts and I waited a week for them to get those in. Then they came back out and fixed the appliance with the problem. It's working perfectly now. So, my advice to those who are looking into getting a home warranty is to do the research and see the ratings before they purchase one.

He was also there in less than an hour after we called him, so that worked well. We had American Home Shield when we first got the house back in 2010 for about two years. I purchased my AHS coverage in 2010, and everybody that I known is saying “10 years is basically the limit on everything. So, get covered so that you don’t have to worry.” I’m also retiring, so I want to make sure that I have access to resources. And so far, so good. My AC was freezing up and it wasn’t putting out any air. And originally, it had overflowed upstairs in the attic so, I cleaned that up myself. And by the time the tech got here, it had thawed out, but I had not been using it. He said that the Freon levels were okay. He said, “Well, try it again tonight and let us know if it’s still not working right.” So, I did that.
Over a day or so, it froze up again, but there was no overflow upstairs. So, he came back out again and he said, “Well, I can’t see anything wrong with it right now,” he said, “but I’ll blow it out.” And he did that and some crud came out and everything, but it still froze up again after letting it run a little bit and everything. So, I called again. They sent out another guy, but I wasn’t available. So, I had to make another date. And then, when he came out and he looked at the system again, he checked the levels again. He said the levels were fine, but they were just at the point where it would start to freeze. So, he went in and put a couple of pounds and I paid him. And everything has been okay since then. I’ve learned to not use it so much during the day because I don’t need it. But at night, when I’m trying to sleep is when I need it and have no trouble with it.

We can either call Home Shield or send them a message on the internet, and within 24 hours, someone is supposed to contact you. They do, and then they set up a time to come out. The first thing we had, two weeks into it, our hot water heater totally went out on us. It flooded the dining room floor. So, Home Shield sent someone out to get a new hot water heater. And then. when my dryer stopped working, Suffolk Appliance Parts came out and checked it, and it was the button. It pushes in when you shut the door and it had broken. Suffolk actually checked it all out and did a little extra. They gave me a new filter.
We’ve also had Home Shield send someone out a few times for our air conditioning and heating unit. The only thing that was a problem was the company. They took three weeks to fix it twice because they said they had to order parts. It’s a Carrier so it’s a pretty common one, but it is older. So, I don’t know if it took longer or whatever. And of course the air conditioner went down when it was hot out so we wanted the parts the next day. But that’s the only thing that I had a problem with, that it just took that company a few weeks.
I sent Home Shield a message and said we would rather not have that company come because it just seemed like they took a while. It might have been because they really couldn’t get the part, but when I tried to contact them, it was difficult to get ahold of them too. If someone requests not having a particular company come out, I would hope that they would acknowledge that. But Home Shield sent a different company the last time they sent someone out.

The AC wasn’t working so I thought it was an AC issue. When I called Home Shield, I had to hold for 20 minutes ‘cause they said it was gonna be delayed so I waited for it. But once someone answered the phone, the person was pretty quick. Right after I hung up with whoever was assisting me, the AC company called and we we were able to schedule for the next day. When the AC guy came out, he said that he didn’t do anything because nothing was wrong with our AC and that it had something to do with the electrical. They weren't not gonna charge me but I had to call Home Shield and let them know that the issue was not AC.
I called American Home Shield right after he left and I told them that the AC guy said that they were not gonna charge it. If I just called again and said that I would pay another $75 for the electrician they might've come right away. But then they took almost one week to just get an electrician guy to come out. I had to wait for a week without the AC running and that was a really frustrating moment that I had experienced with the Home Shield. I had to call every other day for the status. But I understand that they have a policy to waive the $75 for me. I am happy with them so far.
When the electrician came out, they said it had nothing to do with the electrical and that it was the AC. So, the AC guy came out three times and the electrician came twice. I also asked if the AC guy and the electrician to come out at the same time to figure it out. It was getting hot. But it seemed like they didn't care. I wasn’t happy about their knowledge or how they handled the claim. So, I called my electrician guy on my own and we resolved it. They had to do the electrical panel work a little bit. It was an electrical issue but the electrician sent by AHS couldn’t figure it out.

The contractors that came out recently did a good job. They kept in touch with me about when they were gonna show up and they arrived on time. The technician was an efficient, nice guy. Every interaction with AHS was online. It's sometimes easier to do it with an actual person, but it went fine.

My lights were flickering constantly and I didn't know if something was wrong with my main fuse box. Even my refrigerator sounded like it was gonna stop and then start again. My microwave was doing the same thing. Everything was kinda going haywire. I told AHS that I was having some issues. Their employees who take the calls have to be the most polite company employees I've ever dealt with. They had set it up for an electrician to come out and take a look. The electrician was very professional and they tried different things. They even gave me a personal number and said to give them a call if the issue still happens. I would call and they'd come right back out. Then, I got ahold of the park manager and he took over with that. It turned out that the issue wasn't anything with my mobile home. The park meter was bad and caused my light to go off and on. I've had AHS for almost seven years and they've been so good to me. I'll never get rid of them.
I am glad to hear all of your experiences have been pleasant. We look forward to a strong business relationship with you.

The convenience with Home Shield is awesome, having to just call one place for whatever the problem is. And they’ve already got the people so we don’t have to take the time to research and pick out who’s the best. It’s so convenient to be able to call and they take care of everything from there. GE has been out a few times and we had a tech who came out for everything. He was incredibly helpful and pretty quick.

American Home Shield is the worst possible thing that we ever did. They continue to band-aid the problem. Air conditioner has been out since 6/11/2020, called in today 6/18/2020. The problem was sent to them on 6/15/2020 and the company that had diagnosed the problem had been waiting for an authorization to order THE PARTS. When I ask WHY they had not authorized was told that is in the process... REALLY and how long does that process take 24 - 48 hours...REALLY and 6/15/2020 3 days ago and WHERE are we on that AUTHORIZATION. I will check on that - as of now we have no resolution to our problem and guess what- WE are done.
The company that is fixing the AC gave us one estimate and American Home Shield gave us another and this goes on every time we have an issue. So AGAIN - Canceling this TODAY - 6/18/2020 after having an AIR conditioning company come access the issue to find out that we probably have another issue that they are just doing another band aid and then guess what - American Home Shield and Myers gets more money. Every time they come out we have to have refrigerate added... so more dollars. They are a piece of CRAP.

Updated on 07/01/2020: I feel the obligation to make a follow up on my situation with this company. Now I complete 23 days without AC in Miami, my wife is pregnant with 40 weeks, got sick because of the high temperature and we are expecting our baby for this weekend. It is Wednesday July 1st and I submitted the initial request on June 11th, since this day all I received from AHS is contractor's is failure to execute visits, cancellations without any notifications, waiting 1 or 2 hours to be cared by a service rep who can't even transfer to a manager or someone who can expedite any service visit due to the lack of commitment with even just a diagnosis, I don't even know if the AC may be fixed.
AHS transfer to 3 or 4 different contractor companies and just 2 Technicians attended the visit, but just 1 opened up the AC unit and try to find out the issue unsuccessfully (other one was a wrong called for Electrical part, which is fine). If AHS can't commit to solve or even try to solve appliances issues, they should not be in this appliances contract business, they don't know how to manage the business. Please think twice with making business with this company.
Original review: I have an issue with my AC, called to schedule an appointment and AHS works with subcontractor companies, the one selected for service appointment made wait a whole weekend with the commitment of Technician arriving between 8am and 3pm.. had to call back on Monday and after 40 mins waiting, they scheduled another company for Tuesday.. Technician arrived and didn't even find out what was the issue.. once again after 3 days calling to AHS with wait times between 40 and 50 minutes, they told me that Technician never completed a diagnosis and I have to wait.. It is Friday of the next week and I still don't have AC working.. and even worst, no idea when do I get my AC fixed.. and here comes the weekend..

I've had an up and down couple of years with American Home Shield but when things go wrong they go really wrong. Our dishwasher control panel broke 6 weeks ago and we are still without a dishwasher. 6 weeks! I could have whittled one from wood quicker. AHS sent out Hornet Appliances of Houston to repair our dishwasher. They inspected it and told us we needed a new control panel. So far so good. They ordered the part and 2 weeks later arrived to fit it only to discover that it was the wrong part.
They ordered another part and came 2 weeks later and guess what? Same thing. Wrong control panel in the box. The poor guy that came to fit it was very apologetic and could not understand what was going on. He hoped that the office would be able to sort it the next day. I called, nobody answered. I called again. No reply. I left a message. Nothing.
Finally, I got through to somebody but they are not able to tell me what is happening. They are still 'researching' the part. I tried to call AHS to find answers but customer service keep you on hold for 40 minutes and then do not know what is going on and try to get rid of you with fake promises. If they cannot get my part they should replace my dishwasher. If it takes this long to get the parts they should replace my dishwasher as a matter of courtesy. My hands are starting to become dry because of all the dishes I am doing. I know this is a first world problem but come on AHS. I want a dishwasher. Please.

Manufacturer describes it as a wall unit yet AHS stated 'not covered its a window unit'. It's installed through a wall and the mfg calls it a wall unit yet AHS makes there own description. Can't even talk to people that make decisions to dispute, only people that are reading from a script. They are only looking to make money and not cover policyholders. Avoid them at all costs.

I have made several complaints to American Home Shield regarding SWAT Plumbing company that they sent out to my house for a service call. The company did not complete the job correctly and charged $1585 for a misdiagnosis! When I notified American Home Shield the representative told me that was not their responsibility and there was nothing he was going to do about it. In fact, I needed to call the company and dispute it with them. This was very unacceptable! I have canceled my contact with them and I was a customer for almost 10 years. I cannot believe that AHS would still consider using this customer after receiving so many complaints from customers who have been scammed out of their money for poor service. See my complaint regarding the Plumbing company below.
If you're looking for a company that has technicians with several years of fake experience to misdiagnose issues, technicians that instantly develop scam artist amnesia when confronted, over charge you for services that are not needed, and provide you with the worst customer service possible then look no further, you've got the right company! S.W.A.T Plumbing!!!
SWAT Plumbing came out to my house for an issue, diagnosed the problem as my water heater, charged me $1585 to replace it....BUT unfortunately I noticed the issue still there which means the water heater was never the problem. Basically the issue was diagnosed incorrectly!! Even a second technician from THEIR OWN company confirmed it!! He said he would have his master plumber call me to discuss the misdiagnosis. After that the company immediately stopped returning my calls and refused to give me a refund! They even went as far as to start falsifying documents to my home warranty company! I knew then I was in for a fight.
I had a second company come out last week and a technician knew exactly what was wrong, provided a proper diagnosis, and fixed the problem. He never mentioned the water heater not once! Instead said my aerator on my faucet needed to be replaced. Want to try to guess how much the part cost??? $5 measly dollars!!! Instead of the company owning up to the mistake and just sending a refund, they argued the other company was wrong in their diagnosis even though they actually fixed the problem. How is that possible?? I have intentionally left out several details to shorten this up for social media but definitely have the proof to back up all claims! Google their name and you will see that I'm not the only person this has happened to. I would advise anyone that comes in to contact with them to RUN for your life and find a new company!! Thank me later!
Oh No! Thank you for providing your feedback and we do apologize that this issue has not been resolved and caused you to cancel. This will help diligently to improve overall customer experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you.Have a good weekend.

Updated on 07/23/2020: After 3 months of waiting for a repair on my washer I finally was told that AHS would replace my washer. I opted to buy my washer locally and was told if I e-mailed a copy of my receipt to AHS.POR@ahs.com I would receive my reimbursement in 7-10 business days. That was on June 24th. After 21 days I sent another e-mail asking why I had not received my check. I get a reply telling me it would now take 21 business days. Well it’s been 21 business days and I still have not received a check. I’m Beginning to think this nightmare will not end any time soon.
Original Review: I have been without my washer since March 18th. The repair man came and had to order parts. He came back 3 weeks later to replace the parts. The washer was not fixed so I had to wait again for him to come back To see what the problem was. On May 18 he came and had to order more parts. The parts were ordered on May 22. It is now June 18th and I still haven’t received the parts. I have contacted the repair service, and talked to 3 people from American Home Shield and no one can tell me if or when my washer will be repaired. Every time I call I am on the phone no less than an hour and a half with no answers.

Updated on: 13 days ago we filed our second service request for AC repair. First contractor never showed. Second contractor took 4 days before available. A/C turned off by second contractor on 6-14. Contractor says from their side it shows authorization pending while our status has gone to repair authorized and then equipment ordered. We have asked for information to be sent in writing and we have received nothing. We received one phone call last week while driving and was not able to capture all verbal information. Our contractor is not moving forward due to no communication from AHS. We have not been communicated with either. It's very hot in our home (we live in Texas) even with the fans running.
Updated on 06/19/2020: FINALLY. Received response. They want over $2000 from us to satisfy item supposedly covered under warranty!!!! Do not use this company!!!! No specifics provided by AHS. Customer service does not exist! You provided by Offshore company.
Original Review: I just got off another hour and 15 min long hold to check on a service request. I was hoping to obtain more details than what was showing as status online. This time I wanted to speak to a supervisor and had to make that request twice. I still don't know if I ever spoke to one but it was a different voice. When the online status was read to me for the third time, I asked to speak to someone who actually worked for AHS. Was told they were not allowed to discuss that and I would have to wait until the authorization department finished reviewing the contractors request. The report was sent over the evening of the 15th and not logged in until the 16th - it is now the 18th and nothing. The 24 - 48 hours that is quoted is not actually "hours" it's 1 day or 2 days and it is not from when it is sent by the contractor but from when AHS logs it in.
This service request was originally placed on 6-10-20. First contractor never showed up, never called and entered the request as cancelled. Second request required a 4 day wait for service. So it is the 8th day since service was requested AND I have been charged twice for a service call. BTW - the service is for my A/C and it's 86 degrees in my house. I've had AHS for 4 years and service in the past has never been bad like this. Beware of current conditions - 6-14-20.

I have several properties covered under AHS. I am able to open the service tickets online but if I need to reach customer service it will take at least 2 hours to talk to someone. You will get disconnected a few times in the call. I was able to talked to a customer service rep after 1 hour and then the rep forwarded my call to another department and I was put on music hold for another 2 hours. I hung up the call after that. I am paying a lot of money monthly and in service requests to this company with 6 properties. They need to hire more people on customer support or take online chat requests to resolve the issues quickly. I had to hire outside contractor to fix my tenant's dishwasher which costed me a lot. What is the point to having warranty if I had to hire someone from outside.

Updated on 07/12/2020: History/situation: Oven malfunctioned on 21st May 2020. Contractor (KTR) started troubleshooting the following week. (No complaints about KTR). Through the course of several weeks - oven deemed unrepairable. Bought new oven on 20Jun2020. Sent receipts same day to AHSPOR at AHS dot COM to review my invoice. Received confirmation email, per their department expect a 7-10 days to receive check. Called 12July2020 (22 days later), invoice still has not been processed. No check. I will tell you that there are several departments you will have to work with for any claims or issues. Customer service avg wait time is 45 -90 minutes to speak with someone. Call center is not USA so plan accordingly.
Once it's determined that KTR cannot repair, another department has to validate this. You will want to follow up here. First- the KTR has to send email/paperwork to AHS. Often they themselves cannot get through to AHS. Once this documentation has been received you can move to the department that will assist with getting you a new appliance. Avg wait time to talk to someone in this department is 4-6 hours (My experience). Dept is located in US with locations in GA and TN.
Once you get to the department to purchase new appliance, be ready (as you have reviewed and selected a model; in my case oven replacements are from SAMSUNG or GE). AVG wait time was again 4-6 hours. Recommend calling in the morning right away. Due to stock issues with appliances - lost of stuff had a lead time of 4 weeks or more. Bc of this I opted to take the cash out and purchase an oven locally so that we could get back to cooking at home. I made this decision based off the good faith that AHS would pay out as they said they would.
Plan ahead financially (if you can) as I have had to float the debt of not being able to cook at home for months and now the debt of an oven with no end in sight of being paid back as AHS indicated they would. Its seems to me that the AHS business model here is lets hope no one calls and/or tries to get new appliances through us. I find it disturbing that executive leadership at AHS remains uninvolved with these long lead times, ridiculous phone calls, and now consumer reviews. The fact that it was cheaper to use the AHS supply chain to get a new oven but no comparable oven was available leading to AHS spending more money on a cash out towards me should tell you something is wrong with this company at the top.
If you write any reviews, their marketing team will get back with you (the lady was very nice), but what she can do seems limited in nature. Is also very evident that a marketing game is going on here, as if you really dig into review websites you will see many similar posts from people about AHS. Usually around 1-2 stars.
There is no way AHS is this highly reviewed. Point in case we had a complete stranger we met a few days ago discussing something with us and somehow AHS came up. Wouldnt you know they were dealing with exact same issue (not oven related - A/C for them). The game is up AHS, get your act together. At this point I highly recommend you shop elsewhere or do your due diligence when accepting AHS. You are taking on a lot of risk.
Original Review: 18June2020. I have been without an oven for over 30 days. As I was writing this review, I received a text message notifying that my repair was done. It is not. The oven was condemned and so far I have received no follow up from AHS to replace it or offer money for a new one. A couple of notes. I did all the follow up with the contractor. I scheduled everything. I called AHS. At no time did AHS do anything to assist or follow up to ensure that my repair was going smoothly. Have you ever tried cooking for a family without an oven? I guess I should be happy we have running water.... Moreover, the additional cost of providing food that I would otherwise be cooking will not be regained (i.e. eating out, ordering food etc).
Finally, you WILL NEVER TALK TO SOMEONE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT WILL HELP YOU----- EXPECT WAIT TIMES FROM 45 MINUTES TO 4-5 HOURS OR NEVER! Customer Service call center is not located in US nor are they authorized to transfer you to other departments. Once you make it past Customer service, there is a department that reviews your repair before finalizing what the contractors say in order to move your claim to another department aka the "Cash out department". These departments are located in GA and TN. Cash out department? Good luck....
I have spent numerous days on hold for hours attempting to talk to this department. Time I will never get back. Supposedly they are to contact you within 24-48 hours per policy. I will be holding my breath... I suspect that the replacement oven will not be anywhere near the value of our VIKING oven and will actually de-value our property/kitchen. I look forward to the loss of money in my property when it comes time to resale. Maybe I am wrong, still waiting to see. As a "customer" of AHS, it's almost insulting to think that I bought this warranty of my own free will to then turn around and be treated like this. It was a risk I took (I normally would never buy a warranty but this house I bought it was necessary) and now I am paying dearly for it.
My only final recourse is to continue to write reviews and tell every soul I meet about this experience in the hopes that they never make the mistake I made trusting AHS. As an ACTIVE DUTY Military member sometimes we are moving constantly and with that sometimes buying and selling homes more frequently than other people. I will ensure anyone that I everyone I ever mentor or come into contact with that is buying a home never buys a warranty from AHS if I have something to say about it. I continue to be unable to cook for my 4 and 2 year old girls and my pregnant wife. Thanks AHS, "I'll continue to hold..."
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

This warranty is absolutely horrible. When I first bought my home 3 years ago their service was good. I had an issue with a water leak and they fixed it no problem. I am now experiencing and issue with my ac unit and was told by the technician on a Monday that within 24 hours this company will give the authorization and I will be contacted to schedule a time to fix the coil. It is now 4 days later of suffering from 90 degree weather in North Carolina and American Home Shield still have not authorized my request.
After paying this company $60.00 a month I was informed that I now have to pay $600.00 to get my ac unit fixed. This has been a horrible experience and I have dished out well over 3k to this company monthly only to be enlightened that I now have to pay $600.00 out of my own pocket to get my unit fixed while suffering this whole time in June heat. I strongly do not recommend this company or warranty for anyone. This warranty is a complete joke and is a total rip off. I am highly disgusted and refuse to give this company or any other warranty company a dime of money. This place has ruined warranty offers for me!!!! My unit wasn't cooling so I submitted a service request with AHS online. I prefer going on the website because it is much more user friendly. There are long pauses and long waits going through customer service and things don't get done very expeditiously. When you speak to a person directly, they're normally nice. But it doesn't seem like they're properly-trained for the positions that they're in.
United Air Temp came in late May to see what the problem was because my unit wasn't cooling. The guy was very, very professional and very knowledgeable. He did above and beyond what I thought he was gonna do. He was there for three hours, from 6 PM until 9 PM at night on a weeknight, and maintained the unit, and it started cooling immediately. I haven't had an issue since.
I've had a couple of technicians out to service the AC unit over the years through American Home Shield, and he was by far the best. He explained to me what was going on every step of the way, and asked for permission to go upstairs. And I just told him, “Hey, you can go wherever you need. You don't need to ask me for permission.” He would check in periodically through the three hours he was there, just to make sure that I knew what was going on and what he had to do, and how much time he thought he had left. He was making a conscious effort to keep me in the loop and make me feel at ease that the repair was getting done properly.
But I'll have to caveat this by saying I had to call American Home Shield after they allocated my service call to United Air. I had bad experiences with that company before and the previous technicians. They said they would send out their most senior technician to help me and that's what they requested. So I'm sure that's why I got the level of service I did. I live in Florida heat. It's 100 degrees today. An air conditioning is a necessity, so I had to have it done properly. I was erroneously-charged before for Freon, which was an exorbitant cost above and beyond what the cost is for the deductible from American Home Shield. It was above and beyond what they would cover, so I understood. And that's part of their disclosure.
We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your AC request. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

I figured it was a smart idea to get a home warranty. I ended up with American Home Shield and when we couldn’t get our entire AC unit to turn on, my husband did a claim with then online. There was an immediate follow-up that they would file our claim and send it to a company that would contact us. Shropshire HVAC Repair & Service contacted us later that day which was very quick. The service was wonderful. The tech seemed like a very knowledgeable guy. He worked on something that had to do with fixing some of the wirings that were kinda underneath the house connecting the units together. Everything has been functioning perfectly and we haven’t had a single problem. With the repair, it makes a huge difference when it's hot.

AHS sent out Burleson Services for my AC claim. They did good. They replaced the capacitor. The tech fixed the other things but he was here less than an hour. He checked to make sure the cooling and the coils on it were fine. He did a good job. He was a good guy. But the electrician that AHS sent out here ain't worth a crap. I've sent a request in for a post light outside on by the tree. They came out twice and then they followed up three or four times but they never told me that they could not go outside the house until I spent another $100 and they sent a kid out here. He told me they couldn't fix it because it's not in the area of the home. I was not happy with them. I spent $200 for nothing.
I asked AHS about getting another contactor but the rep said that they were the only one they got. So we had to hire another electrician. Overall, AHS is very efficient. Submitting the claim was very simple. You call them, tell them, and then they give their vendor number, and they call you or you call them and they come right out. They also check their contractors after a while to make sure they’re doing the right job.

Right now, we're waiting on American Home Shield to approve the parts or whatever is going on. Mr. Appliance is great. But the back and forth that has to happen between them and American Home Shield and the approval process is a nightmare. I submit my claims online and the website itself is easy to use. But there's no way to follow up on anything online. If I have to call into American Home Shield, I have yet to be able to do it in under an hour and a half.

My friend told me about Home Shield and the payments. She said she had purchased the home warranty and when her AC went off, the guys went out there and fixed it. So I decided to get it because you never know. What if something ever happens at the house? And I think Home Shield has been a good investment because I have called for a few repairs without knowing that those were gonna get messed up. Home Shield is like the best.
Cool Image Heating and AC came out once but they didn’t do much. They came in, checked the system and found that the breaker was off. We never knew it was off. We had remodeled our home and the contractor turned off all the lights and never turned it back on. But we didn’t even check the breaker. So when we turned on the AC and it was just hot, we made a call to American Home Shield to have it fixed. I spoke with someone and it was quick. Then they sent me an update of when the contractor was gonna be coming. The guy was also respectful and professional. He came to do what he had to do and gave me a copy of what he had come for. The AC is working and keeping us alive right now with this heat.

The air conditioner wasn’t working. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield through the phone and I was given the contractor's name and number and that they would be getting in touch with us. And Air Climate Solutions did right away. Everything has been excellent since they came out. But we just put in a claim for a leak. We put it in on Thursday afternoon or Friday and we didn't hear anything from them. We’ve been without water. I called American Home Shield and they said they would follow up on it and that was yesterday. Today, we got a call and they're setting up an appointment to come out. I was assuming that no one works on the weekends, but I would have hoped they would have found someone that could work on the weekend to come. But it's been an excellent service.

It definitely needed to be replaced because it had been about 15 years since it had been in here. Everything was fine and I'm very satisfied. It was a great experience and I enjoyed working with American Home Shield.

First Class Water Heaters came out when the water heater wasn't working, which was kind of an emergency. The tenant had little kids and she couldn't give them showers. I called on a weekend and the contractor came out the following Monday. He assessed the problem and tried to fix it, but it wouldn't work. He had to replace the whole water heater.
They sent a request to AHS and that same day, someone from AHS called me back and said that it was approved to replace. They called the company and the plumber company called me to let me know that there were extra charges that AHS would not pay would not be responsible for. I was a little disappointed, but it made sense. I had to fork out $800 to fix it and thought it was a lot. I tried to get a couple of different quotations from different people and it was the same.
I liked the professionalism of the technician that came out. The guy was honest and I felt very comfortable that he was gonna do a good job. He was a former military. Even if the cost was a little bit more, I just went with him. He came out the very next day and everything was done within a couple of hours. I was very satisfied. I also have AHS on my house. Last year, I had a different company, and when it came time to renew, I just switched over to AHS. I'm very happy and satisfied. Everything that I would want the company to do, they did. I told my parents that with AHS they don't have to worry about fixing stuff.

I have two warranties. In one house, Home Shield was really bad. I'm thinking of dropping because the AC and the furnace were both wrong and cannot be fixed, and I had to buy my own. They wouldn’t do anything. The technician recommended new ones, but then they said, “You have to pay $1,500, something, to put some additional work.” So, I decided to buy myself. I am seriously thinking of dropping the warranty for that house.
Rush Heating and Cooling came for the other house. The AC needed the Freon and that was it. The tech had a mask and something on his shoes and cleaned his business. However, they said the unit needed gas and they only paid $10 for it but the guy charged 100. That was too great. But what are you gonna do? A contract is a contract. But the price should be half of it.

My recent claim with AHS was handled so well. That was for the sump pump in the basement. So, the contractor had to just clean the pump and that was it. My coverage covered me completely for the sump pump. I just only paid for the deductible. It's easy to make a claim with AHS. Sometimes, it's difficult when I need to negotiate with the item. For example. First, I changed my furnace. So, they covered a portion of the furnace ‘cause they were trying to install a furnace that was not really like-for-like. I really cover most of my expenses to make sure they really were installing in my area that meets the standards. The contractor called me and said, “This one is not compatible. It will be a lot of work and a lot of modification.” I preferred not to do that so, I just paid extra for a different furnace.
However, the warranty option doesn’t cover everything. I can give the example of a very old microwave. They fixed the microwave. However, that was three services that took to finish the microwave, ‘cause it was not really so simple. Someone came here. They didn’t finish the whole thing, came again, and then they figured out that it was another thing. Then the third one, they replaced the whole part. But for something that really depreciated so much, they should buy something new. I think that it cost more to bring three times, the contractor, to the house, do service, and then spend for parts than bringing a new one that will not cost too much. Things like that don’t make sense sometimes. Sometimes, AHS works well, sometimes, we have difficulties.

Submitting my claim with AHS was really easy, especially doing it online. However, it was a little difficult finding a provider that was available right away because I guess a lot of people's AC units were out at the same time. I had to call in order to find a different company to come out than the one that I was originally given online. AHS should have more options when you file a claim. It was one of the hotter days and the air just wouldn’t kick in. I could hear something, but no air was coming out of the vents. They determined that it was some type of wiring issue where they needed to reconnect the wire in the AC unit. It was a really good experience.

My garbage disposal was backed up. Heros Plumbing Service has been out to my house twice, and each time was excellent. The technician asked questions to see if he could diagnose the problem before he started tearing into the plumbing. From the questions that I answered, he said, “Oh, you know, I’m pretty sure I know what the problem is,” and he went straight to what he thought it was, and it was the problem. So, he got that. I had some potatoes or something like that that we peeled, and he said that those stuck in the little U right there. He then took it out, showed it to me, emptied it, and made sure that everything was still working properly. He also educated me a little bit on what to put down the garbage disposal and what not to, and it was done. He was great.
What I like about American Home Shield is that when I looked at other warranty companies, for them, you have to add on so many things. If I wanted my washer and dryer covered, that would have been an additional package. If I wanted my air ducts covered, that was an additional package, too. With American Home Shield, everything was included in the price. So, when I went to their website to see what the price was, there was the price, it was everything that was covered, and it was simple.

I wish I didn't have to have so many claims but it has worked for the new house. It’s been a very frustrating experience trying to get this washer repaired. The first time Sears came to repair it, they had to order several parts, which meant we had to wait for those parts to arrive and then schedule the technicians to be here. My husband and I both work, so scheduling to be home for them was very difficult. When they finally came, they put those two parts, only to find out they needed more. They called for more parts. But for them to diagnose that, they had to bang on the washer itself. At that point, I was beginning to wonder if we’re gonna get the same product back after the washer itself had been worked on so much.
The technicians themselves were extremely polite and courteous and tried to explain the problem. Sears handled the claim beautifully, but unfortunately, the decision to continue to repair this washer has been more expensive in the long run for American Home Shield. I was without a washer since May 31 and today was the first day I finally ran my washer and unfortunately, it was making some scary sounds.
Throughout this experience, I've had to try calling Home Shield and I was on hold to get somebody to answer, one time, for 1 hour and 40 minutes. I had to see a patient at the office and I completely forgot I was on hold. When I came back to the phone, I had been disconnected and I was hoping to God somebody would call me back but nobody did. My receptionist called them again and was put on hold for approximately another hour and a half before somebody answered. But then, I was told I was with the wrong department. Luckily, they connected me to the proper department.
It’s been a run-around with them. When they checked my record, according to the part order, there was no estimated time of arrival for the part. At that point, I was desperate because I have a huge family and I have no washer. American Home Shield told me then if there was no estimated time of arrival, they would replace it or something to that effect. I wanted to confirm the replacement so I called them back. My office manager held for me for 2 hours and 45 minutes. Home Shield changed their tone. They said they can repair it so we gotta get it repaired. We just went along with it.
I just can’t believe that anyone would be put on hold that long. I don’t understand how that can happen in today’s day and age. In some companies, if we are put on hold that long, they ask if we can leave a phone number where they can call us back. But American Home Shield doesn’t seem to have that option. I would highly recommend that. Other than that, I’ve recommended it to so many people. I've been with them since ’01 and I appreciate how they replaced my appliances when it really is bad. This is just the one bad experience I’ve had. They’ve been wonderful so many times.

American Home Shield sent Connett Services for our claim to replace the air conditioning unit. I did the claim online, and their website was easy to navigate. I’ve used it before for other claims. I was told that we should be getting a call within 24 hours. It happened in that time. I submitted it at night, so by the next day, we had gotten a call. Connett was great. The unit wasn’t blowing out air, and when they came to do the Freon, that didn’t do anything. So, they had to come out twice and there were other things that they found out that were wrong. We have been told last year that it was getting down to its last leg when they serviced it last year.

We've had American Home Shield for a couple of years. I have three different ones. I have one for myself, one for my son’s house and another one for my husband’s daughter’s house. Because we know that if they have a problem, we’d be the one’s footing the bill. My stepdaughter has replaced a washing machine with it, and my son had a water heater go out and they paid part of that. We’ve also used it once here with our icemaker when we first got it, so all three of us have used it.
When my son and daughter-in-law had some noise or something in their plumbing that they were concerned about, they had High Priority Plumbing come and service it. They had used the same plumbing company before when they did the water heater and they were very pleased with them. When they came out this time though, they couldn’t find the problem. They just couldn’t make it do it when they were there, but I know they said they had 60 days. All in all, I’ve been very happy. I just keep debating whether or not I should keep paying it, but I keep paying it because it seems like every time I think about not doing it, something comes up.

The plumbing issue was that the handle in my shower bound up inside the apparatus that actually the handle goes on and turns, it got bound up inside the wall. So, they just had to come out and pull that one piece out and put a new one in. The tech did what he needed to do and fixed with limited damage that should have been worse. I’m happy with the service I got outside of Home Shield, but I’m not very happy with Home Shield themselves.
You have to wait 45 minutes to even talk to somebody. I can’t see that being the COVID because we’re all working from home anyway. But once I got the appointment schedule for the service, the service guy got ahold of me, they came out, and they were great. So, scheduling the service after you finally get to talk to somebody after 45 minutes, it’s okay.
I set up a contract with Home Shield and they said that I had 60 days to change that contract. And I had set it up to where I’d pay $50 a month, and for each contractor visit to come out, I had to pay the $100 service fee. Within that 60 days that I had, I called to change it to where I was only paying 30 a month but doing 125 on each service call.
I called them, and called them, and probably did it four or five times. And the first time, they told me they were going to do it, and I got my bill but they didn’t do it, so I called them back. I went through these three or four times. And then finally the lady told me, “Well, you can’t do it because you’re outside your window. You have to wait until your contract renewal is up, doing in December of this year.” What they told me totally went against what they said they would do. And then after a while, they said, “Well, you’re outside your contract window now.” I’m not happy with the way they did that. I signed up in December, but I had to wait 30 days for it to start. The contract started up in January. It has only been a few months. I just bought the house in December.
Every time you call somebody from customer service, you get a different answer because the first girl told me I had 30 days, and then I told her, “I’m within my 30 days.” Then the next lady I called said up to 60 days, and then they just went crazies like nobody was on the same sheet of music. And nobody can do anything there. Because the first person I called, I had to call the Contract Department. The Contract Department said, “Oh, we’ll fix that ‘cause you’re within 30 days.” They never fixed it. Then I called back and I talked to the Contract. They said, “Well, I’m gonna have a supervisor call you back because I can’t change it, but she will change it for you.” I never received a callback from the supervisor. Nobody ever recorded that or anything.

This is going to be a long rant regarding poor customer service from American Home Shield (AHS) and Servicemaster. Let me begin by stating I have been a customer of AHS since 2001 and I expect good customer service when I have to use their services. Our air conditioner went out Thursday and I was contacted Friday by the contractor AHS has an agreement with for a/c repair. They were unable to examine our a/c until Monday. When he arrived Monday afternoon he found the compressor was shot and would have to be replaced. That, in retrospect, was not the bad news, but that AHS would have to approve the repair. Now, why hire contractors in Tulsa, if you are going to second-guess their diagnosis in Memphis. Basically, we are in a holding pattern until someone in Memphis realizes that an a/c will not operate without a compressor.
For those of you who know me, you realize my wife has survived 4 heart attacks and does not do well in the heat. So, this morning I started calling AHS in an attempt to speed up the authorization process. After being on hold for an hour I finally spoke with a gentleman who said they were waiting for the Authorization Department to approve it. I told him that I don’t know what the weather is like in Memphis or wherever you are, but it is going to be in the mid-90s in Tulsa. I asked if I could speak to the Authorization Department and he said he could only contact them via email, so I asked for their email address and he refused.
I asked to speak to his supervisor and he said he was working from home and did not have one there. I asked for the phone number for his supervisor and he said he could only contact his supervisor via email and he again refused when I asked for that email. He said he would send an email to his supervisor and I could expect to hear from him/her in 24 to 48 hours.
Now, I worked for two Fortune 500 companies and know if someone files a complaint with the corporate office, things get done. So, I tried calling the Servicmaster Corporate Office and you cannot find anyone there. When you are instructed to press 0 for the corporate operator, the system hangs up on you. So, that is my rant. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining about the local repair company, they have to go by the rules of their contract. However, if you want good customer service and desire to have the ability to talk to someone who has any decision making ability, you might consider other options. Additionally, I have filed complaints with the Mid-South Better Business Bureau and the Oklahoma Insurance Commission.

My AC unit is still awaiting a part (coil) that was ordered on June 3rd according to my account. I have explained that there are health concerns with heat (regarding my son) in my home, and it has fallen on deaf ears. I had a supervisor call me (FINALLY) last week, and she was as helpful as the regular customer rep. The vendor has been more helpful than AHS. I have explained to each customer rep that either they are not being truthful with me or they have very limited access to information. They reached out to me on Facebook (after I entered my story) and asked for my phone number if I still needed help. I did, and I am still here waiting for a call.
My wife and I have literally spent at least 14 hours on the phone with AHS, and each time we have received little to no help. I have heard horror stories but never experienced it until now, and unfortunately, it has gone according to every story that I have read. I may have to consider putting my family in a hotel for two days next week due to the heat, which is awful considering there is a worldwide pandemic going on.

Our oven broke and we called AHS on 4/23/20. They sent someone who said the main board was bad and they would get one ordered. A week later AHS called and said it wasn't available and they would have to have this one repaired (or we could get $300 for our $3000 oven. They company came back after another week and said they had not heard of anyone fixing boards, but they took it and shipped it off.
After a couple weeks I called AHS (waiting for another hour) for an update and they said there was a paperwork mixup. They said it would be 5-7 business days. After two weeks I called again (waiting for an hour) and they assured me it would be ready by 6/10. On 6/16 the company reinstalled it (7 1/2 weeks later) -- it has the wrong color buttons (black buttons on the white oven) and now the stove top doesn't work (which was never a problem) and the oven isn't working right either. I called the technician who said I should call AHS and now I am waiting on hold for 1 hour and 40 minutes so far.

The contractor didn't do anything other than say he thought the issue was a wiring problem and that he didn't think American Home Shield covered the wiring. So nothing was fixed. But it's not on American Home Shield. It's on their provider. I don't know how much they know about what is covered and what is not covered under American Home Shield. I would have thought that everything is covered because when I paid for the additional pool coverage, it was the pool, the heater and anything to do with the filter and the pump. So I would think the wiring would be covered.
The week before he came out, I had also called because the heater wasn't turning on. He told me to go to the panel and do all these things. I was like, "Well, that's why I put in a – call because I want someone to check it for me." After I hung up with him, I went back out, took the panel door off, checked everything and was able to turn the spa on from the unit itself. So I called and canceled the first service call.
Then I was away the weekend. When I came home Sunday and went to turn the spa on, the same thing happened. I thought it was ridiculous. The spa has selective memory. The heater should go on immediately. So that's when I called The Pool Guyz the second time, after which he did come out within 24 hours. He was real nice too. The heater did go on after a few tries as well. But he said it was not my heater and that was why sometimes it went on and sometimes it didn't. He thought the issue didn't have anything to do with the heater, that it was a wiring problem and that the heater was fine. But that turned out not being the case. I had to call my pool company guy back in again. But I do have the heater working now. I have to go out to the box panel, open up the door and hit it a few times where the vents are and it goes on. I'm not sure that that's the way it should be working but as long as it goes on when I need it.

I saw an AHS commercial and then I checked them out and I was like, “Hey!” And what made me get them is because I have another property. I had properties and one of the ladies was complaining about something and another lady complaining about this. And I was like, “You know how I can fix this and I not have to really worry about it.” I got Home Shield, put them on there, let them call, set it up, I pay the 100 bucks and then the guy comes out, fixes it or replaces. I told the guys in my office about it and how they work, so they decided to have it in their houses.
When I called AHS for the one issue that I’ve had so far, they sent somebody out. I call them, gave the person the information. They called me, we set up a time that was good for me. The tech from All Hours was awesome. He came out and he went right in. He plucked the wood chips out of the garbage disposal and it worked fine.

American Home Shield was part of my purchase agreement where the seller would pay for it for a year. I called them for a claim and they set things up. They made the appointment and I had to get online to get my appointment. That part was kind of confusing because they kept saying somebody would call me back, but nobody did. It turned out that they had my wrong phone number that's why they didn't call me. I don't know what number they even had because I've had the same phone number for 15 years. But the place that did the service, Ice Cube Air, took care of all the insurance stuff. It was easy as it could possibly be. It was great.
Also, the contractors were good. I just wish that they could have come sooner because it's summer in Las Vegas and that really sucked. They didn't have any appointment times until like four or five days later, which I can't really blame them. It is COVID time so the whole world is messed up right now. Besides that, they were really friendly and awesome.
But American Home Shield does not cover the garage in the warranty and I wish they would. My garage door has not worked since day one. I've been here since February and I haven't gotten around to it. With not having work right now, it's kind of hard to pay for somebody to come out and do your garage. As soon as work starts up again, that'll be good.

The guy knew what was going on. He was very polite. We stayed six feet apart. He had a mask on and I had a mask on. I'm in home all the time as well. So it's nice to see someone professional. There was an issue with the water coming out and they said they fixed it, but they really didn’t. I can live with making my own ice and stuff though. I’ve had a warranty in every house I’ve ever had. To submit claims, sometimes my wife goes online and sometimes I make a phone call. We can’t choose what contractor we want to use, but we’re well pleased outside of the fact that if they send a contractor the first time and he doesn’t do it correctly, then we want another person to come out. We then have to re-call them instead of just dealing with the contractor themselves. One time, we had a claim on the internal working parts of the toilet, which were all rusted and in bad shape. We called about it because they weren’t working properly. Plumb Genius came out and installed the internal parts, but we had to call them out three times.
Finally, on the third time, they got one of them working correctly. They had to come and replace some more parts for the other one and then finally they got it fixed as well. The quality of work was mediocre because even the last time they changed out a handle and they changed out the flushing arm and it wasn’t the same as it was before. My wife doesn’t like the way it flushes, but it works. Still, we were frustrated with them on the toilets and we told American Home Shield we didn’t want them to send that contractor back out. When we first got here, they sent out a different contractor and this guy was great. However, when we had a leaking Whirlpool washer, they sent Plumb Genius out again to fix it.

And then, I got one tenant who every little thing is a problem. It probably cost about 20 bucks, but I paid 75 and be done with it, for the labor, where they came out and said the unit was not flushing all the way. And then the next-door neighbor saw her using them and she said they were so good. Home Shield is doing a great job. My son owns a couple of houses now and he's using Home Shield. We've had American Home Shield for two years and used them three times and they were excellent. So keep doing what you're doing, American Home Shield.

Recently we had a plumbing issue. AHS sent Heros Plumbing Service out. That particular instance was seamless and it was good. The tech was great. He was efficient and they were professional. But the prior one with the air conditioning last year was horrid. I felt like the contactor that they were using was dancing around our problem and not wanting to replace the unit. We had gone through that years ago with having to replace the air conditioning, so I knew a little bit about what was needed. But, it was clear that they kept sending the same contractor out over and over, and he was doing very little other than consuming our time. We were without air conditioning for a long time, it fell on deaf ears with American Home Shield.
I kept questioning, "Why are you using this company? Why are we having to endure such pain going through this?" It sucked up a whole lot of our time. This tech came out and he was bad-mouthing the company saying the company didn't wanna spend any money. On the very next day, he was out here, he even said he was leaving the company going to another company because they wouldn’t give him any help to the point where he had to lift a pretty heavy piece of equipment up into the attic from my husband's walk-in closet, and he didn't have any help. He was like, "I don't know how am I gonna do this." He was struggling.
AHS didn't seem to even care. Any time I got somebody on the phone, they didn't wanna talk to me. I got hung up on numerous times. They had a call center that was in a whole another country and I couldn't understand what they were saying. They would read out a script. Every time I would say, "I don't understand what you're talking about. Can you please get somebody I can understand?" He would hang up on me. I would not get anywhere. So, I would try to dial in their new sale just to get attention because I figured, they'd answer the phone if they think if it's a new sale, opposed to somebody who has an issue with an existing call order. I would go that route and only to be hung up on.
I finally found one person to answer my questions. She was like, "Okay. It’s tough, 30 days was the last time they were out there.” Then, we had to pay another amount of $75 to try to get it looked at. They were making me feel like I was thought as being crazy because we were still having an issue. I was like, I know if it's cooling the house or not. I did a different tech. But I was going in circles. My first two were very responsive.
Then all of a sudden, when it came down to installing a new unit, the technician wasn’t answering the phone. He would text me part of that but then his voicemail was full, and he wouldn’t text me back. Then I was calling AHS and trying to get help there. I finally found an advocate that helped me and got a hold of him directly. Then, he was responsive. He said, "That’s gonna happen tomorrow,” but I kept feeling I had been brushed off ‘cause he said the job was gonna be like a good half a day, which ended up taking a whole day, ‘cause he’s a one-man-band as he claimed. It was just so ridiculous.
I thought AHS was so good. AHS took such good care of us for the past years. Then to find that like second-guessing, “What the heck did I do?” Clearly, it was a wrong choice. But the only one thing that I liked about this girl calling was that I felt like the call center was not offshore or somewhere where I at least could understand better, the people I was talking to. I would tell others to shop around and know what they're getting into.

The AC unit for the upstairs of my house went out. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and they sent Absolute Comfort out. The AC works now. But the company had to come out and diagnose what was wrong then American Home Shield had to order the parts and send it to Absolute Comfort. Then they had to come back out. So it took about a week and the upstairs of the house didn't have air conditioning for that period. If there was some way American Home Shield could shorten that, at least for air conditioning, that would be nice. But that's the only thing. I totally understand that that's kinda what they have to do.

Other than that, there is a problem in the claims process if the contractor comes out and submits a thing saying this is what needs to be fixed, then sometimes the contract doesn’t cover it. It would be better if AHS could make it a 100% coverage on everything.

Everything went wonderful. There wasn’t anything that was emergency. I could do without the garbage disposal for a couple of days. So, it worked out. We had a sink in the bathroom wherein the pipes below it were dripping and we couldn’t cut off the sink. For one, it was old and we were afraid it was going to break by turning it too much. And then, it couldn’t be turned to shut it off. That had to be replaced. And my garbage disposal stopped at that time so that had to be replaced. Home Shield sent someone out in a matter of a few days. The CNJ tech did everything he should have done. It’s very important to have a home warranty. I’m getting on with age so it’s even better and more important to me. My husband used to be able to fix a lot of things, but he’s gone now, as of a couple years ago so I need all the help I can get. With that, Home Shield would help me if something does go wrong.

One time, a tech from Repair Solutions came and he was great. He knew instantly what was wrong with the unit and he told me what it was. We had the same issue with the washer and dryer that American Home Shield had a different service company come out a couple years before. The tech from Repair Solutions told me what wasn’t put back together right by the previous person that repaired the unit and he showed us. He walked us through everything. Considering the times that we’re in and that it’s summertime, I would like them to get back with me sooner. They took my unit apart but have not gotten back to me to let me know when they were gonna assemble it back or when the part was ordered. I have no clue and I’m just in limbo. We put in a request with Home Shield online because I couldn't get any water out of our waterline. The site was user-friendly. It got me to where I needed to be. The only thing was it said it was a refrigerator and they asked for the brand but it didn't ask for any detail on what the problem was. Cooper came out and took a look at it. The tech said he needed a part so they ordered it. They came back 10 days later and installed the part. If I had been able to put it on the online claim and saying that the waterline was not providing any water, they might not have had to order a part and could've finished up the job that day.
But one time, I was having problems with my furnace and they automatically assigned a contractor. And when I went online to take a look at the contractor's reputation, it stunk. I then went back to American Home Shield and tried to get a different contractor that I know was part of the plan and they said I couldn't do that. That was almost when I was going to go to a different company. I know that Home Shield has to give business to a lot of different people, but if their reputation is not good, I don't wanna have anything to do with them and that's what happened. I went out and hired the company that I think is good, had them come out, and do a test on the equipment and paid for it myself. Other than that, the contractors that I have worked with have been pretty good. I've used Home Shield for years and my experience has been positive.

We had a claim with American Home Shield for an AC issue. We had an idiot come out and he did something that I’ve seen other idiots do. He poked around outside, didn’t know how to fix it, and decided that the problem was a leak upstairs in the attic. Nobody needed to be in the attic. As it turns out, that was just a waste of time. He forced us to continue the claim. We had to pay $700 to replace the Freon in the system because he said there was a leak. There may have been a leak, but it wasn’t a very big leak and it managed to last for at least 15 years. Maybe it was low and needed to be replaced. Part of the problem was that the air conditioning system that we have is older and it still uses Freon. So, they wanted about $8,000 to put in a whole new air conditioning system and that’s only half of the system. We have two units. But that didn’t fix the problem.
Another guy came out from the same company, and that was at no charge to us, and they figured out that the compressor was blown. This gentleman was a little smarter, and a little older, a little wiser. He noticed that there was a unit on the air conditioning that kinda jumpstarts the compressor, and that was like a last-ditch effort to keep the old compressor going. When they put that on, they warned me that it was gonna go and the compressor was gonna have to be replaced. American Home Shield replaced the compressor, and they put it back together. They didn’t secure the fan motor correctly. They used the bolts which were already worn because it had been serviced too many times. So, the fan came lose and the blades got stuck and it ruined the fan motor. Now, the fan motor had to be replaced. The fan motor was a lot less expensive and it wasn’t really that big of a deal, and they came out and they replaced the fan motor.
It took two tries to get the compressor fixed because they brought the wrong compressor out the first time. American Home Shield bought the wrong compressor. That mistake was at no cost to us. It just costs time. We switched companies after the air conditioning blew and the fan motor was the only thing that was left, which was all because it came loose. The second company fixed the fan motor and they got it secured correctly. We had to pay the fee again. We decided that it was better to switch to a different company or we are never gonna get our air conditioning fixed.
In the end, we paid $700 for the Freon, and then we paid two fees for American Home Shield. Before things were finalized, American Home Shield had offered to help pay for the new air conditioning system if we chose to get a new air conditioning system, and their contribution to the $8,000 would be 1,500. When I bought American Home Shield, I was told there were no such limitations. As a matter of fact, the whole reason I bought American Home Shield was so that I could get the air conditioning system replaced because I knew it was gonna go bad. And I kinda wondered how American Home Shield could make any money if they’re replacing things like that. But that’s the deal. I still have American Home Shield because I still have two dying air conditioning systems.
Now, I know that it’s only $3,000 for these two different air conditioning systems. But a little bit of honestly would go a long way. Before people buy American Home Shield, they need to know that if they think the air conditioning system is gonna get replaced, it’s not so much. $1,500 out of 8,000 is like a joke. Another thing is that they get involved a little bit too much in the details of trying to solve the problem. If they had some real expertise, they could avoid a lot of mistakes and save a lot of money.
First of all, they don’t really know when to quit with the maintenance and when to switch gears and just go buy a new one. They did try that with me, and I refused because I shaved a whole lot of money. I spent maybe $900 total as opposed to 8,000. I’ve had so many components over the years changed out on those air conditioners that I wouldn’t be surprised if I get 10 more years out of the old one. I’m caught in an air conditioning trap. Fortunately, this was kind of pre-season and the summer hasn’t really rolled in, but it took about two and a half months to get the air conditioning going. In the heat of the summer, that would’ve really been a problem.

We've had American Home Shield before when we first moved in. It was offered 20 plus years ago and we like having that option to call people out. We normally do a lot of home improvement stuff ourselves, but it's nice to have an expert come out, especially with the big stuff like the heating and air. When my kids’ bedrooms weren't getting cold from the air conditioner, I didn't know if there were any leaks in the system or if we had enough Freon in there. My husband hoses out the unit and cleans it out, but to work on it, he doesn't have stuff for that. We had a guy from Air Technology come out and he was friendly, knowledgeable, and on time. He determined that there wasn't anything needed. He said the ductwork looked good, and I just had to replace the filter in my hallway vent, which was on my to-do list. I replaced it. Also, we have dual-pane windows and the one in my daughter's bedroom had a crack in it, so I had that replaced too.
