My AC unit completely went out. Fast Response Heating and Cooling came and they were great. I was satisfied with them. I wasn't given a window as to when to expect the contractors out and that was the worst part but I like that when piece of machinery goes out, you just pay the premium and it gets fixed rather than having to go spend 6,000 on a new AC unit.

We were having a problem with the thermostat and the AC, and it was when it was starting to get real hot out. The house before the repair was in the 80s so it was very uncomfortable. I called American Home Shield and made a request for a service. The representative I talked to was very good, professional, friendly, and tried to be as helpful as he could. He indicated it would be within the next week or two that the contractor would come out. Within that week, United Air Temp came out. They quickly identified the problem and resolved it right there. The repair helped it out a lot. Afterwards, the system’s been working very well and we’ve not had a problem so we’re very comfortable. Overall, it’s been a good experience with American Home Shield.

My mom has had American Home Shield for years and she’s always talking about them. I signed up and in general, I'm happy with them. The only thing I’m unhappy about is that it takes me at least 30 minutes to get through being on hold. I’ve had a few calls with the same guy. He usually comes and I’m happy with him. There was a lady that came out and I was unhappy with her because she just tried to tell me what was wrong. She never really looked at the appliance, didn’t try to mess with it, and the solutions she was giving me were kinda dumb. I asked her not to come back.

I had a leaking garbage disposal and Pleasant Valley Plumbing came out. I called American Home Shield and they contacted the contractor. They said they would come out within a week. The guy who was sent was very pleasant and he knew what he was doing. There have been no leaks since the repair was made. It's the second time I've had him here for a problem, and both times I did not have a problem. I don't use the garbage disposal all the time, but knowing the fact that was fixed and I wasn't having a leak, it was good. AHS, overall, has been excellent. I got it when I bought my first property, where there was already a plan in process and it was transferred to me. I've continued it since.

To file a claim with AHS, I just go online and pick what product is broken and what brand it is. Then I usually get a text on my phone that says, “Your claim has been assigned to a company. Here's their phone number. They will be calling you soon.” The contractor usually calls really quickly. Sometimes, it takes longer to get an appointment, depending on what it is, but nothing has been outrageous.

Their contractors have been great. My AC went out when it was 107. I put in a claim at 4 o'clock in the afternoon and someone got out here the next morning at 11:00. The issue was the capacitor. They had the product in their car and they were able to fix it, which was awesome. He also said, “Let's check all your filters.” I had a washable filter that I didn't know existed and I had 12 years of dirt in it. He said that he was gonna wash it out with a hose for me and cleaned it. He also told me what to do. I felt really stupid, but it was really nice of him. I also had the power go out in half of my house. The electrician who came out was super-knowledgeable and friendly. He also explained everything.

I've been very happy with AHS. People always say that I'm wasting my money on the home warranty. But I say that I'm not. My house is 12 years old and it’s at that age where microwaves start not working. AHS has worked out for me really well. I wish it was a little cheaper a month. But when I had a dryer break and they tried to fix it, they realized that it was unfixable so they replaced it with a brand-new dryer from Lowe's.

I submitted a request online with AHS for service and then United Air Temp followed up. When the tech, John, came out they had to regas the unit. John was very knowledgeable and was able to assess what the situation was and what needed to be done right away. Within 20 minutes or less of him being here, he had the house cooling already. I was very happy with the service provided. After he came out, it was more comfortable to be inside, so it made a big difference to everybody.

We were buying a home and didn't know anything about the warranty so we thought we would do it. AHS said that they would cover the rekey so that was what we did. I called them and asked for somebody to come out and rekey the house ‘cause we just moved in and wanted to change all the locks. Reality Rekey came out. They did a good job and they were fast.

I had another experience which has been terrible. When we moved in, we found that the refrigerator didn't work. We called in on the 25th of June and told AHS the model of the refrigerator. It took them a week to get somebody out here. The person who first came out didn't work on that particular brand of refrigerator so he didn't do anything. He told us to shut it off because it could create some problems if we kept it running. And then it took AHS two days. I called a lot of times, and they rescheduled somebody else who just came out this past Wednesday. It turns out that they don't work on this refrigerator either. Meanwhile, I've been without a refrigerator for two weeks and I have been unable to get ahold of anybody. I've tried calling the number and they're supposed to call when they get the report from the repair person. I’m very unhappy with that. I don't know what they expect to do in a house with no refrigerator during a pandemic. it's crazy.

Once I called and complained, I got a call from them but Home Shield has sent another company out who took care of it immediately. They did a really nice job and the water heater has been fine. I also have a claim for the microwave and the dryer. Home Shield has sent an appliance guy out on those two and I'm waiting for feedback. My claim went very well. AirMack did a good job. I've used them before and they were on time and let me know exactly what was going on and got the problem fixed. The capacitor was out and the Freon was low. I paid for the Freon. I'm very satisfied with them. Home Shield paid $10, but I know that stuff's expensive so I wasn't upset about that at all.

My garage door broke just the other day and I called in Home Shield and they sent over to somebody in Bowie, Texas and set everything up, but those people never called me. I called them and they said they didn't work for Home Shield anymore because they wouldn't pay them. Our garage door was down, so I had to call and get somebody that day to come and fix it. It was the tracks and I didn't know if Home Shield covered any of the cables. But when the contractor told me that, I just had to call Home Shield and cancel that order and do it myself. I paid $182 to get my garage door fixed, and I paid my copay with Home Shield so I hope they would give me my $100 back. I never had any problems with them much other than that. Most of the time, Home Shield has been fine.

The tech from Jungle Cat thought it was freon, but it only worked for less than seven days. Then the tech came back and said that the compressor was bad and it took another four days to get that order in. Other than that, Jungle Cat was good. They communicated via text, through an app, or called us if they had a delay or had issues finding the house and they seemed to always be very polite and clean and on time. American Home Shield needs to make sure they do their research and understand exactly what their policy is. But they were good and they took care of us. I would recommend them.

They ought to have a place where they can communicate with their customers. Their site says they have a chat but then they don't have one. The only way I can do that is over the phone where their reps say "Go online". The only thing that I can do online is file a claim. Plus when I call in, I sit for 45 minutes with music in my ear waiting and waiting. Other than that, their site is fine. Their contractor Veteran Heating & Air Conditioning contacted me and we set up an appointment for their tech to come out. He was very good. He came right out, and he fixed it right away. This is an overview of my ongoing issue with trying to have my air conditioning fixed: March 21st - Service requested for air not getting cold. April 9th - Service completed (paid $1,000 out of pocket for coolant). May 27th - Service request made for air not getting cold again (48 days later). I was told because it has been over 30 days that I would have to pay another service fee ($107.00). May 30th - Technician arrived and determined there was no coolant present and it all had leaked out. He stated that he would return in a few days with tools to determine where the leak is originating. June 9th - I called the contractor (Comfort Experts) to inquire when someone would return to check the leakage.

June 10th - Contractor arrived to state that the leak was in the Compressor and he would put in the request for a new Compressor on that same day. June 16th - I called the contractor to check the status and I was told to contact AHS as the contractor was waiting on the purchase approval from AHS. June 19th - I contacted AHS regarding the purchase of the compressor and was told that AHS did not receive the request until June 16th and it was approved on this day June 19th and would now be purchased.

June 24th - I contacted AHS again and was told that the compressor was STILL not purchased and the customer service representative stated that she would place me on hold and assure that the compressor will be ordered on that day and when it arrive, I would have to pay another out of pocket expense of $500.00 for the coolant.

June 27th - Today. At this point, I'm still waiting. I have paid over $1,200 in expenses in the last 3 months and expected to pay an additional $500.00 and I still do not have working air in my home with temperatures in my house reaching above 90 degrees. No one calls to update me on the status and apparently nothing is being done with the work order until I call. Only the days when I call is there any action taking place. There should be some type of compensation for this extreme inconvenience as well as this being a health issue. My 9 year old daughter suffers from nose bleeds when she is overheated. She has had 3 nose bleeds in her sleep since my air has not been working. I purchased a couple of fans two months ago but she cannot have these blowing directly on her because they cause a sore throat. Still Hot & Waiting for Service...

Sometimes, I wish that the service would be faster. Sometimes, when you make the claim, the contractors may not get it until 24 hours after. Then the contractor may not schedule a repair for another 24 hours. And if you have a weekend in there, it can be difficult, particularly in hot Houston with no AC. However, AHS's website is simple and easy to use. The interaction and service provided by the contracting team were fantastic. It was some of the best I’ve seen. My upstairs AC unit fan was not operating, but everything has been performing flawlessly since they came.

So, it's always good to have the insurance of having somebody to come behind you and do what needs to be done without me making it worse. The tech was polite and professional. He was good and my claim ended up not even being an issue with my dryer. The issue was with my circuit breaker and he finally told me, "Well, you need somebody to come and replace one of the circuit breakers." So far, everything is great.

Our AC stopped cooling and we realized that the fan motor on the outside unit went out. So I called American Home Shield at about 3:00 pm, and they had Sevier Climate Control here the next day. The contractor was very professional. He was to the point and he got the job done. He didn’t have a fan motor in stock that day, but they had one here the next morning. The AC has been good since the repair. AHS is very easy to deal with. No headache involved at all.

It was really easy submitting claims to American Home Shield. I tried to do it online and I didn’t have my password so I just called and the guy said, “All right. Yup. We'll set you up. We used American Home Shield for the toilet and the man who came out was really nice. He used the snake thing and even told me how to use the stuff to put in there to get the marks out when you use the snake because I had a little bitty one. But four days later, the problem was there again. We thought maybe it was toilet paper. He told my husband not to use too much toilet tissue but he’s blind, so he doesn’t know how much he’s getting.

A week later, when the toilet did the same thing, the tech came back. Then nine days later, it did the same thing. We live in a condo, so I was calling around to see what to do. At the time, I couldn’t get a hold of American Home Shield and I didn’t know if I was supposed to call him or not, or if he would even come, if it was in the contract. So, I ended up calling Roto-Rooter and I had to pay $145 for them to come do the same thing the other guy did. It's been good ever since. But it cost me over $300 to get all of this done.

I was gonna get a hold of American Home Shield because I think they should refund us but when I call, I'm on hold forever or it just keeps ringing. And I wanted a human being. I don’t wanna just be on hold for 40 minutes. All in all, I was dissatisfied with their service. We've been using American Home Shield for 11 years and they're not as good as they used to be. The contractors I get are not really good like they were about three years ago. The last few times, they didn’t fix things and we were left thinking what to do next. We’re both disabled, so we can’t do these stuff. So, I feel like we should get some kind of refund and not something that they credit because I don’t know if I'd even use that.

I call American Home Shield when I have a claim. One time, water was leaking from the upstairs bathroom down to the ceiling downstairs. When I got the rep on the phone, I told her this was the same thing that had happened about a year ago and I asked if she was sure she was sending me somebody. She said they would send me somebody and the guy from Anywhere Plumbing Repair came. When he said he had fixed it, I asked if he was sure. I told him that if not, I was gonna call him back but that I was hoping I wouldn't have to call him back after my 30 days was up and I would have to pay. He said no, that he had taken care of it. He also explained some things to me. He showed me what he thought it was. So I was satisfied. I'll just hope that it’ll hold up and that he fixed what he said was fixed. So far, it hasn't dripped yet. The guy who did the work was also polite and extra nice. If I ever have another plumbing problem, I would want Home Shield to send them.

I also had one issue where American Home Shield had to send an air condition company. But the tech came four times and couldn't fix the problem. He charged American Home Shield for two parts that weren't the problem. I asked American Home Shield what this guy was telling them. They kept sending him out here even though he didn't know what the problem was and then they were making me pay for this guy too. I also had to pay for Freon and then the second time he came, he let the Freon out. So I wasn't pleased with that.

I asked American Home Shield to send somebody else. I had never heard of anybody letting out air and Freon. I didn't think I should have to pay for Freon and then they were gonna charge me again for Freon when came back? Why did we have to pay for so much Freon and especially for something that the repair people were messing up? I had to talk to a special team and then somebody else. Then a lady had to call me and she finally got the situation done.

I got the insurance soon after I bought this house because it is a 20-year-old house. I thought it might be good because there are some original appliances in here. I used them a couple weeks ago when we had 110 temperature. My AC had stopped and I called. I figured it would be quicker on the phone but I couldn't get them on. Then I went online and did it, and I got a response almost immediately. They sent me an email and gave me a number to call if I needed somebody sooner. I called and asked if they could get here later that afternoon. But about an hour later, the air conditioning just came back on.

I called the contractor and told him he didn't need to come that day but that I'd appreciate the visit the next morning just because it should be happening. He came and what it all was was a loose wire. He checked it out and it did something strange so he checked something else and that was it. So I'm happy. It's working. My AC is 20 years old and I'm hoping that that's all that's wrong with it because we're having pretty warm weather. But I have had no problems with the warranty. I think that eventually, it would pay for itself. If my AC goes out, that will run me about $70,000 but it shouldn't run me that much with the American Home Shield.

There was a time when my AC wasn't cooling the house. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and their contractor Advanced Heating came out multiple times. The first time they did, they thought the issue was one thing and said they would have to come back again. Another tech came out and he said the issue was a different thing. They had to order parts and came out again to replace the second issue that they mentioned. Plus, they also filled my AC with coolant. Within a week, the AC wasn't keeping our house cool again. The contractor sent someone out again and he found a leak along the line between the inside and outside unit. He repaired that line and everything seems to be working okay now.

Our first plan with AHS was annual and then payments became month-to-month. Also, they randomly changed our contract. Originally, it included $250 of code upgrade and they removed that completely when they updated my contract which was kind of annoying. Plus it is sometimes confusing what they may or may not cover. We had someone come out one time 'cause we noticed some water leaking and the tech who came said the issue was probably a seal in our shower. So, that wasn't something that AHS would cover. The day they came for the first AC repair and replaced something for our AC, our water heater went out. They replaced the water heater as well but it took a week for that to get replaced.

They set me up with someone else that came out the next day. I've had them now for two years and I've been very pleased with the service. Three days after my renewal with AHS, I had a pipe go in my bathroom and then my dryer decided to stop working. But it was great. I haven't had a single issue with anything that I've had to have done.

I was on hold for 30 minutes prior to being able to get ahold of somebody from AHS because of COVID but as soon as I got someone, they were right on the ball. They messaged me back, they called me, and they gave me updates for how far the driver was out. I paid ahead of time. The people came right out, did my repair and left. They were really nice, too. They got good companies working for them and I was happy. AirBoss came out for my dryer and they were very professional and they were on time.

When a plumbing company came out from my other home warranty, I was discussing with them who they normally use for contractors and the guy told me to call the office to talk to the main lady. I called their office and talked with the main lady there and she told me they work mainly with American Home Shield and then she told me to call around a couple of other places but she knows a lot of them are American Home Shield. I called other businesses as well and it seemed like everybody around here works with American Home Shield and had nothing but good things to say about it, so I switched in a heartbeat. I love that I have American Home Shield.

Recently, some parts of my washing machine needed replacing. I called it in and the representative I spoke to was courteous. I asked him about the lint vent of my dryer because it stopped fitting in there properly. Even though he wasn’t there for that service, he went through it and explained to us how to clean out the inside and then we probably have to go online to order a new piece for it. He was helpful. He said it could be a week to two weeks to expect the contractor out because he had to order the part, and with COVID going on, it could take a little bit longer but they would keep in touch with us if it took longer than two weeks. I loved the work done when Sears came out. It was perfect. The guy wasn’t even there very long. He put everything back the way it belonged and cleaned up his mess.

I have called AHS numerous times to see if they would give us a different contractor. I have not been able to reach anyone on the phone. I’ve waited on the phone for 30 minutes on hold. I have also gone to their Facebook page twice and written a comment telling them about our situation and that we are seniors. Meanwhile, we keep getting emails from them asking us to renew our contract.

When we ask for service, we’re supposed to hear back from the contractor within 24 hours to make an appointment. But this last time, we did not hear back in 24 hours. But with the plan, you can’t just arbitrarily call somebody else to come and service you.

I had an issue with my dryer as it was not heating even though it was running. American Home Shield assigned my claim to D & J Appliances and a gentleman called. He was very prompt in coming and letting me know he was on his way. When he came, he knew what the issue was right away. He turned my dryer upside down and, evidently, it was the heating element that had totally burned out. He had the part in his truck so I was very pleased. He went out to his truck, came back and installed the part then told me, "You're in business, ma'am." He was very nice and professional. He promptly fixed my dryer. I thanked him and he was off.

I had another claim with American Home Shield. They had someone come out and look at the appliance. I've had problems with my heating system and they sent someone out. Sometimes the contractor has to order a part. One time, the gentleman said, "This is not your heating situation, it's an electrical system, ma'am. And so, we're gonna call American Home Shield back and tell them you need an electrician because it is not your furnace." They got in touch with American Home Shield and told them that it shouldn't be a separate charge but all within the same charge. That wasn't charged another service because it's just that when they came here and it was not what it was. An electrician came out and had to replace the fuse in my box, and my unit went to work. Between everybody, it was handled.

I would definitely recommend American Home Shield because when they told me somebody was gonna call me within 24 hours, they gave me the number of the folks that they had called so that we could communicate back and forth so that things could be done in a prompt manner. The gentleman, when I called him said, "Ma'am, I can't get to you today because it's Friday and I already have another schedule, but I will definitely get to you on Monday." And he was here on Monday. I couldn't argue with that.

I had American Home Shield for two years and I canceled because I was not happy with their service. They kept giving me offers to come back, so I came back. I'm going on my third year now and I'm not really happy. The vendors that they have are not reliable. They'll come and supposedly fix your equipment and you have to call them back because it's not fixed correctly.

As a matter of fact, I just had somebody come out last week and fix my ice maker. It wasn't dispensing ice and now, it's dispensing it, but it's not dispensing cube and crushed. It's both crushed. The year before, AHS had people come out to fix my air condition unit and they told me it was fixed. I had to call them back three weeks later and they were telling me something else was wrong with it. Another thing is that trying to get through to American Home Shield to rectify the situation is like pulling teeth from a baby. It's ridiculous.

I'm the type of person who doesn't want different people in my house. If I'm having a problem with my appliances and I like the company that they have, let me always use that one. Even if, for instance, they just worked on my refrigerator, and next week, my washing machine goes out. If I file another claim, I get another vendor. There's no way for me to get the same vendor and if I'm having problems with a certain vendor, why would I want them back in my house? With me being a consumer, it would help if they could do something to where I have the option of picking the vendor because at least I can build a rapport with that vendor. They would know what I'm looking for because I'm very particular about my stuff.

And so far both of the companies that have come in have been good companies. I like that about AHS. But what I don’t like is that I would call up and have to wait on hold for hours.

I canceled the claim online because we were having another leak and I needed someone to come here, and we were able to fix the spout itself ourselves. But we have to wait on the line to get someone to come. Then when they did finally get someone, they didn’t put it in as an emergency. So, that was a little frustrating to me. And then, this last experience was not a good one. We canceled it when we found out what the problem was, and we found out that we could resolve it ourselves because it was with the lever that opens and closes the water for the whole house, and there was a leak that was coming out of it, and then it was in an unfortunate place. We had a friend who does home repair and he said, “Just try this.” When we did that it worked.

AHS has good service. I just need them to have better people answering and have a better response on the phone. I don’t wanna wait an hour and a half on the telephone on hold. It was crazy. We just put the phone down and just waited. And the other thing is when we say it's an emergency, it's an emergency. They called this place out in Long Island who was going to come here, and when we finally got in touch with them they said, “Oh, no. They said that we'll be out there on Monday.” We don’t have any water in my house so that was a big mistake.

And unfortunately, sometimes, it's because people don’t understand. And the two people that we got to speak to didn’t speak English. So, that needs to be changed. Otherwise, it's 100% perfect. I've had other people who have said the same thing to me, that they're very satisfied with the service that they received, which I was satisfied with the service. That was the only thing.

And another thing that happened is that when this woman called me from American Home Shield and said to me, “The contractor wants to know what time it is in your area.” I was like, “I'm sorry. What?” And she said, “They wanna know what time it is in your area.” I said, “If you're sending someone from a different time zone, it's gonna be too far. It's 2:30 in the afternoon. What time is it in their area?” So, finally, then I got a call from the woman from the plumbing company. She said, “I don’t wanna know what time it is. I wanna know what town you're in.” So, there definitely is a language barrier issue that needs to be addressed.

I had a plumbing issue and I went online, signed in, and requested a service from Home Shield. It was easy. The only thing is that it doesn’t give the option to pick a contractor anymore. I used to like that because what I would do is look at the list, then go to Yelp and Google and stuff like that, and see their reviews. But I’ve been lucky the last two times that I had to do it. The tech from The Lindsay Company who came out for the plumbing claim explained what he needed to do and then he put it together. He made sure everything was fine and it looked good. I automatically went with American Home Shield because I know them and also from other friends having it. I was gonna check around to see what other things were out there and what other options there were. But from what I've seen so far, I'm planning to renew my American Home Shield membership.

They got everything scheduled out for me and sent me a follow-up as to what company was going to come out and that they would be reaching out to me. The technician from Calvary Appliance Repair gave me a window of time but he also said that he knows I work far and that he will call me with a little bit extra time to let me know he was coming so I don't have to wait around. He was very helpful, very professional and friendly. He troubleshooted everything and really took the time because he wanted to make sure everything got fixed. I was highly satisfied. In fact, I cooked that night. It was a good experience.

Submitting the claim hasn’t been difficult. It’s just the follow-up work that needs to be done afterward is like pulling teeth. It’s like nobody wants to take responsibility for it. The guy that came out with the company that did my claim said he had to put a hole in the wall to get to the valve. It’s a decent-sized hole in the wall. We still have it in our bathroom ‘cause somebody was supposed to come out. The company that did it said that American Home Shield handled the drywall part of it and that they had to go through American Home Shield. We’ve been going back-and-forth since then. My husband’s in the process of training someone at work so we haven’t had time to deal with it this past week. Just have it together so we don’t have to keep hounding people to finish the job.

Their tech's communication was exceptional, too. He contacted us once by phone and by email twice. He was able to repair the washer during the call onsite and since then, we've had no issues. Updated on 10/07/2020: If I could give AHS no stars I would. I have been trying to work with them for over five months to get my oven fixed or replaced. After a service person attempted unsuccessfully to fix my oven I am still awaiting a response on what the next step is to replace it under my contract. The service provider told me they would report to AHS and AHS would contact me. They haven't after weeks of no response. They do not answer their phones and do not return calls or respond to repeated emails. Horrible customer service yet they quickly answer their phones for sales and send out numerous emails to me pitching their services even though they are unable to service the business they already have. I would not recommend this service to anyone. I have contacted BBB and others to warn against using their services. Why am I not hearing from anyone?

Updated on 06/30/2020: So I finally get a response from AHS customer service by posting a negative review relative to my month-long effort to complete a repair under my policy only to be left hanging on next steps. They are able to check the box on my review as "Resolution in Progress" while actually doing nothing so far to solve my issue. Very disappointing! No resolution here.

Original Review: I am disgusted with AHS, the company's Customer Service and the fact that AHS continues to sell new contracts when they can't service what they have already sold. Rex Tibbens, CEO of Frontdoor should take note. I put in a claim in late May for oven repair. Initial response was prompt but I have been left hanging since with no working oven. After repeated and lengthy calls to customer service I have been unable to reach anyone who can address my situation and move my work order along. The company answers its sales line in a few minutes, happy to sell more contracts, but you can sit on hold for customer service forever and they never answer (my unanswered call today was 1 1/2 hours before I hung up).

Efforts to work with the service provider who started the job go nowhere since they need instructions from AHS before proceeding and they say they have no way of reaching AHS to get those instructions. A month with no working oven and no recourse at this point to get it fixed under my AHS contract. My only recourse at this point is to reach out to BBB, CA Consumer Affairs and my local TV station, which I did today.

Clothes dryer would not blow heat. AHS assigned National Platinum Service (NPS) to fix on 6-4-20. NPS called next day and asked what was wrong. Told them no heat. NPS scheduled repair date for week later WITHOUT further diagnosis. On 6-15-20, NPS arrived. Heating element did not solve problem. NPS Tech ordered thermostat which would not arrive for ANOTHER week. On 6-22-20, NPS arrived and thermostat did not solve problem. NPS tech ordered igniter (?). Told me NPS scheduler would call on 6-23-20. On 6-24-20, I called NPS and had to leave message for update. On 6-24-20, I placed another call to NPS for update but had to leave message. On 6-26-20, was told that part arrived damaged and had to be replaced. New service call will take place on 7-3-20, WHICH PUTS ME WITHOUT A FUNCTIONING CLOTHES DRYER FOR A FULL MONTH!

The NPS Service Manager was upset that I was extremely vocal in my disappointment. I guess she has never been without a clothes dryer for over a month and no access to a laundromat; nor was he able to explain why it took a week between three different parts. Nor did she bother to explain why the first NPS tech was not able to completely evaluate the problem when he had my dryer disassembled and eliminate a complete waste of their time as well as mine. Further, I would forward this information to American Home Shield, but I do not care to wait on the phone for another 18 minutes or put up with the hurdles they have placed on their website in order to contact them.

I can't say anything positive about this company. I purchased additional spa coverage. My spa heater was leaking gas. Called the gas company they confirmed it and told me a part had to be replaced. Called American Home Shield. A tech came out who told me no parts had to be replaced it just had to be cleaned. I said that didn't make sense and asked how he could no that because he didn't actually do anything. He told me it was experience. We spoke about the company and he directly told me he thought it was a scam.

I then had it professionally cleaned and had the gas company come back out. They told me it was leaking gas and carbon monoxide and was a major safety hazard. I tried to call American Home Shield, the first time I spoke to someone for 5 minutes. They said they were going to transfer me I kept asking them not to, then they transferred me and dropped my call. Since then I have called 4 more times, I wait with hold music for ~15-30 minutes then all of a sudden the music stops but no one is there. The call doesn't drop just no one answers. I feel like they basically took the money for the warranty and do nothing. I plan on taking them to small claims court once I get everything fixed on my own.

It's Covid-19 we have a full refrigerator of food, our refrigerator goes out. Wednesday June 17 call AHS. They have a service order to first company that never called to schedule appointment so call back June 18 afternoon. After waiting on hold forever they got a new repair company that contacted me within minutes. Came out June 19th by noon. Found out it's the inverter board so the tech googles the part and there's 1 in the area he could pick up same day get it fixed right!

WRONG. AHS would not pay the $530. Said they can order it for cheaper. REALLY. So the tech said it should be here within 72 hours. Ok we can wait, well 72 hours goes by. Now it's 168 hours. I called June 24, waited on hold forever, didn't get through so called early morning. Waited on hold again forever. June 25 said they never received report from repair service, called repair service. They sent it that morning again, called AHS again. They said, "Oh they must of sent it in a different format" so they asked the repair service to send it again.

So this morning June 26 call AHS early morning. Waiting on hold forever again to see the status and she says it's waiting to get approved. I ask, "How long does it take". She says, "I don't know that answer", I ask to speak to someone in the approval department. She says, "No I can't do that. They're busy, really!" I now lost everything in my refrigerator and freezer that we couldn't eat. My cooler couldn't keep up. I asked who's gonna pay for that? AHS tells me, "Oh that would be under your homeowners insurance". REALLY if you would of let the guy get the part last Friday I wouldn't be here writing this!!!! So here I wait again waiting for their approval department to approve my part. This is total BS!!!

If you need to get in touch with AHS make sure you have at least 2 hours free time or a speakerphone cause you'll be on hold forever!!! And if you get lucky and get that message that says "if you'd like us to call you back" option it's your lucky day cause they'll sooner or later call you back. I just want my refrigerator fixed!!!! If I could give negative stars I would!!!! Only good thing to say is every person I did talk to was very nice but couldn't help.

Our microwave died and the claim was handled fine. Hopefully, it would be reimbursed. I submitted the form and I haven't heard anything back from AHS. We have another claim for our heat pump and it's been fine so far, but we'll see what happens when it's done. I'm waiting for the heat pump guy to come back today. We're waiting to receive a part. They shipped out the part on the 12th and it should have been here a week ago. But it's not here.

I switched to AHS because I had this happen before with a different company. I'm worried this is what these things do and it's all a scam. I had to leave my last company because they wouldn't replace the part. I didn't like the first people called for my heat pump. They charged $200 for a pound of the refrigerant. I told AHS not to send those people. They sent somebody else and they only charged $100. But if I get it done in Richmond, it's 70 bucks a pound. The people that AHS uses charge too much for the refrigerant to offset the cost. Last time, instead of getting it done through AHS, I just paid for it out of pocket 'cause it's cheaper.

With AHS, you can file a claim online which is fine. But if you have to do a recall, there's no way for you to say, "This is the same problem, don't charge me" online. So, you have to wait on the phone for an hour before somebody picks up. It's a callback, not a new thing, so don't charge the $100 fee. You can't do that without talking to a person. The last time, I was on the phone for an hour and 15 minutes and the conversation lasted about 2 minutes.

I decided to drop AHS after paying for the service for three or four years and only using it twice. That 2nd time was a nightmare. They took four days to send a plumber out to fix my water heater. The plumber left something disconnected by accident that I didn't discover until after 7pm. AHS didn't want to pay the $200 to get the plumber they sent out to fix his mistake, so they basically told me I'd have to deal with it till morning. No offer to refund my service call fee for the error, nothing. When they called me the next day to follow up, I told the rep I was going to cancel my contract over the crappy way they had handled everything. The next month I just decided to let my AHC contract lapse, since it clearly states I can cancel at any time. Then they started calling me, multiple times a day, while I was at work.

I finally answered one day, in between meetings and when the rep asked "is this a good time?" I answered honestly, "no, it's not. I'm at work. You guys keep blowing up my phone, what do you want?" and she would not tell me, just kept insisting she would call me back at a "better time". There was no better time! I didn't want more calls, I never wanted to speak to them again. The whole thing felt super scam-y. Now I get a letter from a ** collection agency for $119.97 for....what the hell are they charging me for? My contract says I can cancel any time. I can't get an answer when I call AHS now. I spent 20 min on hold and hung up. When I clicked on the "chat now!" option on their site, it suddenly became unavailable. I've really been satisfied even though maybe over the long run, I might be paying them a little more money. It's a comfort because we are retired and on fixed income. We're not hit with a huge outlay of my refrigerator guys or my dishwasher guys. Most of these things are 800 to 1000 bucks. For the AC claim, Air Doctor did great. The guy was very professional. He was a very nice gentleman. He came in and took care of it and we're all good. The experience was perfect. The AC just needed a little bit of freon and there weren't even any charges for it. American Home Shield has been very responsive in taking care of things that need to be taken care of. The Lindsay Company came out when the shower was leaking and they repaired it. They came out the second time for the master tub faucet that was leaking. They made that repair and left everything in working condition. The technicians were very good.

The contractor came out and did the assessment but they had to wait for the stuff. When it came, they did it. The dishwasher was still leaking and the technician came back and did that but American Home Shield didn’t let him fix the microwave. They were saying that it’s still usable although part of it is damaged. The things that I've requested are the icemaker of the refrigerator, the stove and the washer. They did not honor the microwave but they did everything else, with the exception of the rubber on the refrigerator which I didn’t remember to show him. It’s not the service people’s problem. I was more concerned about having people in the house during COVID more than remembering everything. Also, I did not have any space on the request to say that that was something else but I could have put it in the notes. I still have the rubber but I don’t want to have to pay another $100 just to get that repaired.

AHS should make sure, especially with the pandemic, that the service people who are coming out have shoe covers and masks. I requested that and they had their masks and they took off their shoes but I would have preferred them wearing shoe covers than to take off their shoes. That would be more hygienic than walking on my carpet in their socks. Still, I was satisfied with AHS.

When the motor had gone out on my garbage disposal, the contractor came out the next day and took care of it. They came within the time they said they would and everything's working well. Brian was good and very professional. He was thorough. He came in, diagnosed the situation, and was in and out in probably less than an hour. He was respectful of the home, cleaned up this mess, and followed safety protocols regarding the pandemic. That experience couldn't have gone any smoother than it did. I've had a couple claims with American Home Shield and they've been efficient. It took too long to get the parts for the AC but the other calls that I've had with them have gone seamless. Also, American Home Shield's website is right to the point. It is user-friendly. There are a couple buttons and a couple dropdowns. It's easy to navigate through. It was saying the contractor would call within the next 24 hours to schedule it. I've scheduled it that evening, and they called probably 8 o'clock that morning.

I don't like the money as much as just the convenience of having to call somebody and just send the right person to fix the job without me being there and looking for somebody. And any time something breaks, they can do the research for me. We had one claim for the fridge and another for the dishwasher. They have been okay, but somehow, after the contractor left less than two months ago, the things broke down again. I’m just not happy with the service at all. With the techs, I didn’t feel anything different than they were good and polite people. I’m just not sure why it has taken two to three claims to get things done right the first time. The guy who fixed the fridge last time for us and then the dishwasher, it was very decent company. He said the people who came before should diagnose the problem better. They just came and did superficial work, and they didn’t dig deep into the problem and see what was going on with it.

Every time the contractors come and fix something, they leave, then things break down again and they have to redo it again. I call them again and stuff. When the washer stopped working and the dryer was not blowing hot air, it was the same exact thing that happened with the dryer and the contractors need to come back and fix it. It broke down again three days ago, and that was serviced a month ago. If it was within the two months period, Home Shield would do it for free. But if it wasn't, I would end up paying another deductible. I called Home Shield already and they said they would send somebody else to fix it.

It was a few hundred dollars to put towards the air conditioner that cost us about $6,000. I could've saved my warranty money. You have to $100 for somebody to come out and look at the issue anyway. We had a lot of repairs that US Air Conditioning of Texas wanted me to do in addition to what was covered that I wasn't aware of. I should have read my contract. The bill would be cheaper if I use my professional local than what the actual contract was. Then he escalates the price based on what he feels like he needs to do and it’s way high. Then Home Shield only covers so much. They’re both protected on what they got written and what the tech would do if he got freedom to escalate the price. They get customers in dire need like I am. It’s been over a week now and still no air and still no comments from them on what they’re gonna pay me to cash out. I explained to them that it’s hot and the response has been very slow to my need at this time. If it’s the air condition in summer, I feel like they’d expedite getting the cash out payment to the person.

$2,500 just for the blower system in the attic and that’s ridiculous. I can get somebody local for about 1400. I assume the cash would be one-fifth of what the cost was escalated to. They’re gonna pay me 500 of the 1400 in using my guy. I would’ve had a bill over 1,850 of my money with their contract. It’s a game from the technicians to them.

I called one time and I asked the guy my cash out money. He took about 15 minutes and was very slow to get anybody. Then he said that they’re working on it and that somebody will get with me. This was actually a foreign call. He had a 918 area code, I thought this was them. It's been over three weeks since mine got it done, I’m in heat. Administration is poor. I've been paying $59 a month for a long time. AHS needs to get up to move forward, have some compassion toward their clients if they want them to keep paying them monthly. The cost had gone up and now it’s $100. The technician's just gonna come out and diagnose. Well, that’s the regular fee for local professionals, so he's getting the regular fee. It’s no discount for me at all using American Home Shield.

The coverage that we have with AHS is very good. Our dealings have been very good with them. I also like that the $75 service fee is taken upfront with our credit card. They charged me the $75 deductible just to tell me that it's outdoor lighting and it's not covered. They should've told me that without charging my $75 upfront. I've had American Home Shield for probably 10 years and this is the first time that they charged me a deductible for something that they know that wasn't covered. I felt like I got scammed.

My policy came with the condo I bought (the seller offered it to me) and it started in January, but I didn't move into the property until March. One time, I wanted an HVAC person to come out and check my AC, but I was left hanging as a customer. American Home Shield assigned me to a vendor, but then he texted me and said he doesn't do home warranty work. It seemed odd that American Home Shield would use him or maybe it was he shouldn’t have refused. I found the website a little constraining as well. Sometimes, I might have a repair that's not exactly listed on the website and I tried picking something close. It would be nice if there was a fill in the blanks kind of thing for a plumbing, an electrical or another problem. Recently though, I requested for service and it was easy. Pop-A-Lock came and they were fine.

Sometimes, it’s very difficult with American Home Shield's claims processing. I haven’t used it an awful lot, but it was a real hassle. If you put in a request for service, they charge your card right away. If that vendor doesn’t show up, then you have a hassle of having it removed. Fortunately, I have it on American Express who is very cardmember-friendly. American Home Shield shouldn’t charge the card until after there’s confirmation that the vendor has shown up. Their billing department is not great and could use a few coats of paint 'cause it was after 10 calls that I got someone who could really take care of the problem. Some of the calls are transferred overseas, but this particular call was US-based.

The other thing that I don’t like about them is their advertising is a little deceptive. It makes it sound like you struck gold. They have lots of exclusions then they will forward you to the policy. They pay the minimum to these vendors, so sometimes, their vendors will try to do extra work. With things that they could repair, it’s okay but I don’t think it’s a great value for replacement. I had a hot water heater in one of my buildings that I sold, and it still ended up costing me $1,600 plus the $100 for the fee. All they paid for was the actual hot water heater, but they didn’t pay for any of the code requirements, which is where the money is.

There was another case where another hot water heater was under warranty. The tenant had to wait 3 weeks without hot water, which kinda can get me in jeopardy as a landlord. Because it was under warranty, AHS wouldn’t pay for the part. They would pay for the person to install it. If the water heater was not under warranty, then they might have paid for the part, or they might have done a cash out.

I haven’t had a great experience with them. I definitely don’t feel like with 4 years premium, I got the value that I should have received. At some point, they’re gonna lose customers because when you figure it out, you’re not getting as much value as you really should for what you pay. They’re using your money with not paying you interest. The whole billing setup could be better improved. If you have to change a hot water heater, you have to have an expansion tank and you have to have this and that. Their vendors purposely try to make up what American Home Shield doesn’t pay them to charge us more. If we’re gonna have to pay extra, they should work out an arrangement where their customers get the same contract rate that they do. I still have one contract with them that I will keep enforced until I sell that building. At least if they cover something, it’s better than nothing but they could do better by us.

About two days later, it stopped working. When we called the guy out again, he said that there was something that had rattled loose. It didn't take him long to fix it and he said that he had fixed it. We cut it back on and it worked that night. By the next night, which would have been two days ago, it just stopped working again. I didn't notice it for real until the next morning, which was yesterday morning. I just called American Home Shield up today. Somebody's gotta come back out to fix it again.

I've got an email from American Home Shield, but I haven't heard from Piedmont yet. The email said I gotta wait 24 hours before they contact me. They were real good with contacting me in the past, but this time, they're gonna send out a senior person because three times is the charm. I've been a customer of Home Shield for a long time. I sold my rent houses so I dropped it. I got sick with cirrhosis of the liver so we left Missouri. And when I came back, I took out the insurance again because the house sits here seven months a year empty and I felt we needed the insurance again. I had them before and they're good. They're honest and do what they say they would do. If they can't fix it, they buy new. I like them.

The Mid Mo Drain tech was polite and cleaned up after himself. I love it when he cleans up the mess. I've had them to come out here and I have pretty cabinet tops and oak furniture and they just laid big pliers, hammers, and screwdrivers on top of stuff and scratch it. And this guy asked me if I had a towel and I said, "Sure, I have a towel. You want a good towel, old towel, what are you gonna do with it?" And he said, "I'm just gonna lay it on the cabinet to put tools on it so I don't scratch up your cabinet top.” So they were real good people. If I had to have them out again, I wouldn't care if you send them back out because they were good.

I asked him what would he charge me to hook my water softener up. He called his boss and they said $100. So I said, "Okay" and gave him $100. He was hooking it up when he said, "Well, you know what, I don't know how to do this, turning it on and off and to set the settings and all of that." I said, "Well, that's okay. I have a neighbor that bought one just like this, and he put it in his house. So I'll have him come over and help us." When the guy left, I had the neighbor to come over so we could get it finished. And he said, "Man, he's got it hooked up where your saltwater is going outside." So, he had to reroute all of the plumbing.

I called the man that owned the company.and told him what happened. He asked me what I wanted him to do about it. I said, "Well, nothing, unless you think that $50 of it could be paid to the guy that's fixing it, you know." He said, "Well, let me check on something." He told me he would call me back and he did. He said, "I checked with my plumber that did it. Well, it's possible. He could have got them wrong. So who do you want me to make the check out to, for $50?" I told him to make it out to Ray. I gave him the address and Ray came over today and told me that he received the check for $50. I said, "You want some more?" But he said, "Oh, no. I would have done it for you for nothing. But I just thought, well, since you paid the guy and he didn't do it right, I should get it." The owner made it right and they were nice about it all.

I already tell people they need to get Home Shield. My granddaughter owns three houses and rents out two of them. I told her that she needs to get Home Shield because if something happens, it would cost her a lot of money. And it's not expensive every month. She wouldn't even miss it. Have Home Shield take it out automatically. And when she needs it, she has it.

I had a claim with a sewer, with whom I had some problem. When I called American Shield, they told me that this plumbing company would be calling me, but they did not call. So, I called. It was during the pandemic and everything was kind of screwed up. I finally was able to get in touch with the plumbing company, and so they called American Home Shield and they said that the order had been cancelled. So, I had to call them back and say that I did not cancel the order. They said, "We didn't hear from you so we thought you did.” So, I wasn’t pleased with that situation.

However, the other one went fine. The only thing that I would hold back on would be that he did not have on a mask. I asked him if he had a mask, and he said that he did and it was back in the truck. So, he went and got the mask. He was very polite and kind about it. He also made some extra keys for me and he cleaned all the keys off before he left them for me so that they would be sanitized, so I appreciated that. Overall, my experience with went smoother than most things that have been going this year.

Finally got ahold of someone out on Thursday and so they were supposed to be coming out on Monday. I also don’t like the claims process with American Home Shield ‘cause I can’t speak to a person. I call and then it’s just an automated system and then they take your money right away. Then I’m at the mercy of whoever they assign to come out.

Cabot Mechanical came out and serviced the unit. My air conditioner kept kicking on and off, and it turned out to be a clogged AC drain line. I did the claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I was irritated at first. I never got the chance to speak to anybody on Friday when I submitted the claim. On Friday night, I got the email confirmation saying that my claim has been submitted and that I would receive a phone call from a technician shortly. It went on to where Saturday got there. There was no call. I tried to call back but wasn't able to speak to anybody. I called on Sunday and was unable to speak to anybody. I called on Monday and finally got somebody on the phone. They said, "Oh, goodness, sorry. We looked over your claim because somebody else submitted a claim in the same area close to your residence. And we thought that was the same address."

Then they said they would send somebody out here the next morning. It wasn't until Tuesday that I had a technician show up at my house. So I went four days without AC with two three-year-olds and a pregnant wife. When the contractor did finally arrive, he took care of business and seemed pretty professional. He resolved the problem within an hour. The unit seems to be functioning pretty well.

Our refrigerator was full of water so it was dripping down from the freezer portion. So, we didn’t know if something went wrong in the freezer. I called American Home Shield and spoke with a live person because I had never done a claim before. So, I wanted to make sure that I was doing everything correctly and answering some questions. The lady I spoke with was nice, walked me through everything and told me how it all worked. Then, she went ahead and scheduled the appointment. That was originally with Sears and then I called back after not being happy with Sears and talked to somebody else. They changed something and got me in touch with E & T who called me to let me know when they would come out.

We scheduled the appointment and then, the guy showed up about 30 minutes prior to the appointment. He knew exactly what to do and was in and out in 30 minutes. He went in there with some kind of machine and defrosted something in between the refrigerator and the freezer. So, there was something in there that got plugged up. Since then, the refrigerator has been working awesome. Having it fixed saved the food because we had to have ice in there since the temperature wasn’t right. So, for our family of four at the house, we gotta have cold food. I love American Home Shield. Knowing that there’s a warranty there for when something big breaks, it’s worth every penny.

My A/C went out, I'm in Arkansas. The evaporator coil & a valve need to be replaced. I'm a remote worker in healthcare and having financial hardships as it is. AHS appears to have bad faith in regards to their contracts. Took 1.5hrs to get a rep who could understand that I was trying to understand what was being denied, why it was being denied, and the total amount not being covered. They denied based upon section D(4)(b) "Costs of construction, carpentry, or other modifications necessary to remove, relocate, or install a Covered item or part thereof".

However, all of the parts denied are clearly covered under section F (2. Air Conditioning) "COVERED ITEMS: "All components and parts of the following air conditioning systems:".."When repairing or replacing a covered item, if such repair or replacement requires component or part upgrades to maintain compatibility and/or compliance with SEER HSPF, or refrigerant standards, AHS will cover such upgrades and will cover necessary upgrades to duct connections, plenums, and indoor electrical lines up to and including the disconnect". All of the components listed in the claim from the contractor are clearly covered by this clause.

Further AHS has very poor customer service. When I asked the rep to tell me the provision in the contract for the basis of the denial she had difficulty finding what I was asking for. Finally after several more minutes on hold and restating my request for an explanation. Eventually I was told it was section D(14)(b). However this clause is referring to refrigerant (i.e. R22). When I explained this is limited to refrigerant and doesn't explain the denial for the other items I was transferred to a manager who also couldn't tell exactly what was or wasn't being covered or why. Eventually the manager transferred me to someone who could. Just before he transferred me I asked him for the name and number of the dept to which I was being transferred in case I got disconnected and he didn't seem to understand the request.

Finally the last person I was transferred to gave me the itemization and told me that section D(1)(L) was also a reason for the denial. When I disputed this for very valid reasons he put me on hold, came back on the line, and indicated that AHS would provide the contractor the necessary parts but would not cover the labor cost. No where in the contract are labor costs excluded. These feels like the company is making things up every time they realize they need to cover a cost.

In Arkansas there is essentially nothing consumers can do except go to arbitration at cost with potential liability for AHS' legal fees depending upon the outcome of arbitration, there is no additional legal recourse. The best action we can do as consumers is to defund this company by not providing them our business. I would never recommend this company to anyone. We have never been satisfied with the outcome of any claim. If you are considering a home purchase and an AHS home warranty is provided for your peace of mind you would be better off saving $5-10,000 in addition to the cost of the home. I will be filling complaints with the BBB, the attorney general's office, will post this to social media, and will continue this effort to reach satisfaction until I have functional air conditioning.

I purchased a home on 6/14/2019 and it came with an AHS 1 year home warranty. On 6/12/2020, someone was mowing my lawn and notified me that one of my AC units was completely frozen. I immediately contacted an HVAC company (very reputable) who I have used for the past 9 years. That same day, 6/12/2020, the owner of the HVAC company came out to diagnose the issue. He found the AC unit had been somewhat jerry rigged to prevent a leak outside. He then went upstairs to inspect the furnace and found multiple leaks/issues. His recommendation was to replace the whole unit due to the issues and because it was original to the house which was built in 1998.

On 6/13/2020, he mailed me a quote but I was on vacation and didn't receive it until I returned home. The quote is dated 6/13/2020. Total cost to replace AC and furnace was reasonably priced at $6,800. On 6/25/2020, I found my AHS policy and realized that my coverage didn't expire until 6/14/2020. I called and spoke with a representative who informed me my policy had lapsed and coverage would not be provided. I offered the counter point that the failure of the system occurred prior to my policy expiration date. The response was that I would have had to call and request service prior to the expiration date. I requested to speak with a supervisor and was transferred to the escalation department. At this point, I had been on the call for 1 hour 10 minutes.

A representative who identified herself as a supervisor in the escalation department came on the line eventually. I again explained that the failure of the system occurred and was documented prior to the policy expiration date. Again, I was told that because I did not call prior to the expiration date and request service that my request was being denied. I explained I was on vacation when all of this occurred and my first thought was not to look for a home warranty policy that I did not travel with but rather my concern was with contacting a qualified and trusted HVAC company. She then explained since service had already been provided they could not reimburse me. I again reiterated that no service has yet to be performed, only a quote for service given. After a lengthy wait, she affirmed that the company would not be offering any type of coverage.

I continued to reiterate my points:
    1) Failure occurred prior to policy expiration date
    2) Qualified professional provided quote prior to expiration date
    3) I was contacting AHS prior to having any service performed
    4) It's not reasonable to expect someone to travel with their AHS policy

    5) Even if I did have my policy, I would not have allowed a non-trusted service provider to enter my home while I was not on the premises.

I asked that my claim be escalated again to someone higher up the ladder. I was told that it didn't matter who I contacted that the answer would be the same regardless. I was told that I could write a formal complaint and maybe the policy would be reviewed so a change could be made so this would not happen to anyone in the future. I was also told I could renew my policy and then call for service. I expressed concerns that would feel dishonest and my claim would likely be denied since I had already reported the problem.

After 1 hour and 59 minutes the call ended with a promise that someone higher up would call me and again reiterate that there are no options available to me. The amount of time it took to get to the answer and the answer itself is unacceptable. The majority of the 1 hour and 59 minutes was spent on hold and not dealing with AHS representatives directly.

I find it very disappointing that this company seems to focus on loopholes to avoid providing coverage rather than assisting customers. It seems very unreasonable that despite the issue being clearly documented prior to the lapse of the policy, AHS still is declining coverage. This is definitely a negative experience. I've already shared the experience with my real estate agent and plan to continue sharing so others can avoid similar issues in the future. I also plan to file a formal complaint as suggested.

Updated on 6/28/2020: AHS, I appreciate you responding. Unfortunately, you could care less about the fact that your customer support is sub-par. If you read my feedback, it was about AHS' lack of transparency and customer support. However, you didn't even address that. You went straight to letting me know how you don't cover Zone Systems which is a central AC (ducted central electric split and package units as contract stipulates) which allow you to operate first floor and second floors with one AC Unit as opposed to purchasing 2 outside units. You will need to show me on my contract, because I have the Shield Plus membership which is pretty clear on what it covers and what it doesn't. You don't leave room for interpretation. I have the excerpt a little further below.

The fact that on the day that I was suppose to get service you tell me how much you "I hate to advise you that your contract does not include coverage for Zone Systems", tells a lot about AHS's disgusting business practices. Not one person at AHS explained that to me the day before or the day before that one when we were discussing on the chat, so I could take the necessary measures?

I spoke with Blue Sky AC that morning (before I saw your poor attempt at customer service or concern), and they told me the person was coming between 10 AM and 2 PM. NO ONE called me to cancel. I had been without AC for now going on 3 days because AHS had sent nothing but inept, poorly vetted HVAC companies.

AHS sent A-US Air Conditioning of Texas that had no idea what they were doing, and diagnosed the issue as being the Honeywell box that talks to the thermostat to know if its the upstairs and downstairs that is requesting the air condition to be turned on. THEY WERE WRONG!! I told their rep that this was a thermostat issue because the AC was working downstairs, but he decided to just say it was the zone system (Honeywell controller that sits on top of the Carrier unit) that was not working. Still, it should be covered because my contract doesn't state its not covered since its part of the AC Central (ducted central electric split and package units).

I ended up calling Stan's Heating and Cooling. The guy showed up the same day, and went to my thermostat and re-configured it in 3 MINUTES! Since I had a power outage (which i explained when i first requested the service) the thermostat rebooted and thought we had to AC units, so it wasn't communicating the correct information to the zone system on the Carrier AC unit. Let me repeat, IT TOOK 3 MINUTES!!! I paid $89.00 for the service while I have paid you guys $1,600 over the past 27 months to just tell me you don't cover this because of ignorance from your contractors and you arbitrarily stating my contract doesn't cover something that is covered unless you can show otherwise (by pointing it out in my contract). Shame on you and your entire organization for your poor customer support and lack of honesty.

Excerpt from my Shield Plus membership:
    2. AIR CONDITIONING
COVERED ITEMS: All components and parts of the following air conditioning systems: Ducted central electric split and package units – Geothermal – Evaporative coolers – Wall air conditioners – Mini-splits. When repairing or replacing a Covered Item, if such repair or replacement requires
component or part upgrades to maintain compatibility and/or compliance with SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio), HSPF (Heating Seasonal
Performance Factor), or refrigerant standards, AHS will cover such upgrades and will also cover necessary associated upgrades to duct connections,

plenums and indoor electrical lines up to and including the disconnect.

NOT COVERED: Outside or underground piping, well pump, and well, components for geothermal and/or water source heat pump – Window units – Water towers – Humidifiers – Dehumidifiers – Chillers, chiller components, and water lines – Portable units.

Original review: My AC went down on 6/23/2020, and I made my request at AHS at 1 PM. I got my text stating that they had a contractor that would contact me or I could contact them myself. I went ahead and contacted the contractor who let me know it had been assigned for the next day. The following day (6/24) came around, and I had to call in because no one ever called me to tell me what time they would arrive. Much to my disappointment, they told me they were coming until the next day (6/25) because the AC guy's truck broke down (they had no one else).

I cancelled and went back to AHS and made new request online. I called them first (twice)), and waited on hold for 30 plus min each time. No one ever answered. I sat on chat waiting for someone to come on for another 20 min, and they finally did. They were able to set me up with another AC company for the same day. However, they showed up and didn't know how to work on zone system AC and left within minutes. I was floored that they would send a contractor that couldn't handle different types of AC units because zone systems are pretty common.

Needless to say, I had to wait until that AC company sent their diagnostic to AHS, so AHS will approve another company to come out to help me. This was 6/24 in the evening that I'm dealing with this. I had to call the contractor to request the expedite the diagnosis, so AHS would get another contractor out to me. They did that by 6 PM, and confirmed that they sent it already. I called AHS, and again spent more than 30 minutes on hold because no one answers a darn phone. I had to get on chat again, and wait for 20 plus min for someone to jump on with me. They finally did and said they were working on it.

Today is 6/25/2020 and its 12:30 PM, and I've yet to hear or read an email response on next steps from AHS. I've called and sat on hold for 55 minutes and I tried the chat, but their Chat line is not available. I called the contractor to see if they had truly sent the diagnosis, and they told me they would call AHS to let them know I've been trying to get a hold of them. I'm still waiting on a call from them to discuss how we can get a contractor out here that will not stand me up or that knows what the heck they are doing.

I'm extremely disappointed at the fact that no one will answer a call at support; they have poor vetting of contractors in the AC world (at least in Texas is what it looks like); and they can't get the chat system they boast about to work continuously. I hope this helps to get them to work on things as they have truly fallen apart for them.

I created a claim online for a failed refrigerator. The freezer and the icemaker suddenly stopped working. The online scheduling was easy and convenient. I was able to schedule an appointment for 8am-12pm the next day. Unfortunately my subsequent experiences were not as easy. The following day I received no notices about an appointment or technician's arrival. So, I tried calling to establish the status. If you are calling AHS be prepared to be on hold for a minimum of 30 minutes. Really not acceptable when you are in need of assistance. The first call to a call center likely in the Philippines had the worst call quality I have experienced with a call center. After holding, it was like I was talking with someone on their cell phone in a dead zone. However, I was able to establish that a tech was still scheduled and I would be emailed a link to track the tech.

A couple of hours later without any contact, email, etc. I tried calling again. Same hold time, same horrible call quality. It was now 11:45. While talking to the representative who assured me that I was on schedule but the window was now until 1, I got a call/voice message saying that the technician would not be coming today and I would need to call back to reschedule.

I called back and rescheduled for 2 days later. The technician promptly showed up this time and after a quick evaluation determined that there were multiple failed parts on the refrigerator and he would need to call for authorization for the parts/service. He called AHS and while the call was answered within a minute, it took over 30 minutes on hold to determine if AHS would replace or repair the unit. Repair costs were around $900 and the technician recommended replacement as this refrigerator would likely fail again in the very near future and it would be 3 weeks before they could schedule a repair. AHS decided to repair despite the potential additional repair costs and customer inconvenience. Penny-wise but pound foolish.

So, I just want a working refrigerator. That is why I bought the home warranty. Waiting 3 weeks to get something repaired is unacceptable. So, I called AHS subjecting myself to another 30 minutes of hold time. The call quality was much better this time. I spoke with the service representative regarding the technician's recommendations and excessive time I would have to wait and asked what they could do. She understood the issue but said that there was nothing she could do. So I requested to have my call escalated. I was now 45 minutes into the call. After another 15 minutes of holding, the representative asked for my call back number so that her supervisor could call me when she was off the phone. She said that I would receive a call back by the end of the day. 7 hours later and no phone call. Not a trustworthy company. Tomorrow I start my phone calls again!

AC wen out in late June. Have my new grandson and his sisters living in the house. So I called to get a service call set up. The contractor was assigned and showed up the next day. The tech reported that the AC unit was low on Freon and that there was a leak in the evaporator coil. Told me there was charge for replacement freon at $50/lb for 18 lbs and that they would need to get authorization from AHS to order the evaporator coil. No one from AHS contacted me regarding the authorization and I've tried to call at least 3 times to check on status of the part. Each time I waited on hold for over an hour with no response from anyone. So, I called sales to speak with a real person, and got transferred to the Service Department where I was put on hold for an hour with no response.

In the mean time, I had a second company come out at my expense to see if I could expedite the corrective action. They found that the system was functioning normally and just needed to have the evaporator coils cleaned. Took the second company about an hour and I spent about $200. AHS is not responsive, is not communicative, and apparently uses contractors that are dishonest. I expected way more for the $$$ I spend every month to have a warranty and I will be reporting this to the Texas Workforce Commission and to anyone else I can.

But as soon as they received the part, they got right back out and fixed it. I realized that with this COVID-19, that things just are slow in everything. Normally, within a week or so Home Shield would get back to the company, and then it would be taken care of. It's not a long wait, but I live in such a small town, and they're located in a larger town that they only come over here once a week. So, that was not Home Shield's fault and not the contractor's. Whenever you live in a town that only has 10,000 people, and they live in a town that has 60, of course, Home Shield would have more service calls over there than they do here, and that's why they just decided that just once a week. And for me, that's fine. I don't care. I'm used to it after 30 years.

What I really like is that I can call Home Shield, and if they can't fix the issue, then they will replace it, apply it. Also, that they are really quick to respond to my request. And after that, it depends upon their service dealer and everything else as to when they would come. They usually call me within the next day or two, and then we schedule the appointments. And I like the fact that the prices are low. And then just having to pay a service fee. I pay $125. But it doesn't matter if they have to come out two, three or four times, there's never any additional charge, and I liked that.

Submitting claims to AHS has been simple. There was a time when their techs couldn't figure my problem out so AHS sent me three different companies. The third one ended up doing the job. Other than that, submitting a claim has not been a big deal. Most recently, we tried to turn our AC on for the season. It was blowing air but it wasn't cooling. I submitted a request to American Home Shield and their contractor River City Mechanical put me on their schedule really fast. They showed up and the tech only took 30 minutes to figure out and fix my problem right on site. I'm 100% satisfied with AHS.

We just bought this home and we kicked on our AC, and it leaked water in the basement everywhere. It was very easy to submit a claim. The contractor came out and they fixed it. It took seven days for them to come out, but it was just starting to get hot, so everybody was probably having the same problem. But the tech was really nice and helpful, and it was a great experience. AHS is a great coverage.

My flooring has started bubbling up in the kitchen and I thought I had a water leak, but I wasn’t really sure. I got on the website and submitted the request with AHS. They emailed me with the time and then the contractor called to make sure. It was a pretty quick deal. The contractors came out and it was not a water leak. It was an HVAC problem that was causing the floor to bubble up. They did the best they could. They didn’t have much to work with ‘cause it wasn’t a water leak. But they turned everything on and looked around and strolled into the house. They did a pretty thorough inspection.

Wilson HVAC Company came out to work on my AC unit. It was steady running, not cutting off, and it wasn’t cooling. It also wasn’t the Freon in it. I called the people at the customer service when I got in touch with them. The reps over the phone were good. They said that the contractor would come between 1:00 to 5:00. Then the tech called me when they were on their way. So, they came out and they checked if it was a switch. They went in and replaced, but then it started doing something else when they had to come back. Overall, they did good. I will recommend them with anybody else. It was good customer service quality. The repair affected a whole lot because it helped me stay cool during these hot days. This company is worth trying out.

He seemed to be very knowledgeable, and he said he thought he knew what it was before he even checked. I got American Home Shield because they were one of the few that I can get like a monthly payment plan instead. The one I had before, I had spread-out over four months or it was a bigger payment. So, AHS is more convenient.

The technician that came out for my refrigerator was amazing. His name was Todd and he came out twice for the refrigerator. The first time he came out, the refrigerator was frozen up. There was a clogged drain and then the evaporator failed. It froze all the way up to where the air could not circulate in my refrigerator, so it stopped cooling. He told me he was going to tentatively kind of correct the issue and see what happens, but he was almost positive that it could happen again. So he fixed it and it was fine for about two weeks.

When I opened up the fridge, it was back to 57 degrees instead of 37 degrees and I could see where the ice had come through the vents again. I called American Home Shield to let them know and they dispatched the same company since it was within a month. Todd came back out, looked at it and said that this was going to be something that will continually happen. There was no real fix for it. It was defective. So American Home Shield replaced it, which is a plus. I have diabetes so I use insulin. So I kinda needed a refrigerator.

We like that American Home Shield is pretty quick. You don’t wait days and days and days. They normally get someone out immediately. The only thing I don’t like about them is their call center. I know they’re very busy but you wait on hold for an hour to talk to anyone. We haven’t even spoken to anybody just yet. But the technician that they sent out for my refrigerator was so professional. He was very honest and forward with you and I appreciate that. He came out previously for our washing machine repair and fixed it as well. He also lives down the street from us, so we feel comfortable with him.

AHS is the only game in town as far as I'm well aware of and overall, I like their response time. The way their process works is very efficient, too. But the problem is being able to get anything resolved to my liking. I've had a particular plumbing problem ever since I purchased this home two years ago and the techs have been out three times already. All they're doing is snaking the line for me and they're not really giving me a thorough assessment of what I think needs to be done. On the last call that I made, the guy made a recommendation for an actual plumber to come out. But when the plumber came out, he didn't do anything. He just said that everything seemed to be working okay and it was fine.

Other than that, I had an appliance that went out last year and I wasn't happy with the outcome of my claim. Apparently, AHS gives you replacement products that are on the low end of the spectrum and in order for me to get a comparable replacement, I ended coming up with the differential. So that didn't make me very happy.

The last time was an issue with the faucet and it wasn’t covered.. I'm thinking things are covered, then I come to find out they’re not covered. I'm not 100% satisfied. One time, there was something wrong with the plumbing issue, so that was why I called them out and then they brought it to my attention that the faucet leaking wasn’t covered. AHS should improve on its price too. They keep going up and getting higher. I remember when the service cost was 45, and now it is 75. And then I pay a yearly fee. I've been with them for a long time already and there should be a consideration. I should get a break.

I used to be really happy with American Home Shield, but now, I’m very disappointed. I put my trust in them, and I paid my bills. I paid $50 a month religiously, and now all of a sudden, they can’t cover things. When my oven wasn’t working, I did the whole voice thing over the phone. No one answered the phone when I put the claim in. When Tompkins came out, he looked at the unit, took pictures, and then he sent them in. He was a good guy, but he was here five minutes and he didn’t even look in the oven. He said that because the glass top was broken on my stove, American Home Shield wouldn’t cover it.

Before, I called in because my kitchen sink was leaking, and the place that came out was really awesome. They looked at the sink and the guy was going to replace it. However, American Home Shield wouldn’t let him because they didn’t cover my faucet, they said. Now, I just put in another claim because my air conditioner went out, and they wouldn’t cover that either. It looked like a dog had peed on my unit and because of that, they wouldn’t cover dog urine.

Updated on 06/28/2020: Cont. of plumber using fear tactics to have us sign for $4500 worth of work that was unnecessary. AHS sent plumber to my home that did absolutely nothing, then left me with a $4500 estimate. Even on the estimate he included rodding and sending camera down the line. He had access to do these items that day and did not. When I asked if he could rod he said it wouldn't remedy the issue so he did not. Then he turned around and lied to AHS and told them he had no access, which was false. Also that the issue was outside the foundation. But how could he know without inspection. AHS accepted this lie from Super Rooter without even doing the bare minimum of questioning how he's able to answer the questions without evaluating the problem. I'm glad I refused to sign the invoice because I'm sure AHS wouldn't be of any help if this is how they are handling the matter currently.

I find it extremely odd that he can tell you that and he did nothing to locate the problem. He did not rod anything, he did not send a camera in to locate blockage, he did not try to do anything. It's also unsettling that your response appears to validate Super Rooters behavior of providing false information and using fear tactics. I was under the impression I'm paying a monthly fee to AHS and paying a deductible to have someone inspect and resolve issues. He did not inspect anything other than with his eyes. How is it he could state what the issue is without evaluating anything?

There also was NO sewer separation and there was also access for him to attempt to rod out the lines. He did neither. I would like to escalate this matter seeing as it seems all Super Rooter has to do is falsify its information to you and you go with it without any type of confirmation. Please send me corporate information so I may escalate this matter. I'm trying to give AHS an opportunity to rectify this matter but I will involve legal and media if it's not resolved. Super Rooter has lied to you and I'm on the hook for out of pocket expenses and I've been paying into AHS for over 2 years.

Original Review: I had 2 stoppages in my plumbing and decided to call AHS immediately as I've been paying them monthly for over 2 years as my home warranty provider. The plumber came and did not inspect anything and used fear tactics to get me to sign and pay $4500 to remedy the problem. He left leaving me with no functioning plumbing and didn't even attempt to unclog. He knocked on the pipes and told me there was a break in the main sewer line and that it was just a matter of time before feces would start backing up into the house, among other things. He said all the work had to be done at once and there was no fix. He assured me that there was no other option and excavation, new sewer line, and $4500 was what was needed to repair.

I in turn called another company who came out and hydro jetted the lines and sent a camera in. No breaks found, just some tree roots that they were able to remove. Cost $1400 and done in 4hrs. I called AHS back and notified them of their referred contractors disregard and behavior. Currently awaiting update from them. Thus far AHS stated they've called the contractor to investigate, but surprise surprise they did not answer. Will follow up with conclusion.

His work clothes is very oily. I was advised it wouldn’t take long to get the parts and get the machine repaired.

My washing machine is still not repaired as of June 23, 2020 - no washing machine. What take the cake NO washing machine. The repair man took the washing machine with him. I do not have the washing machine that my husband purchase from Sears. I’m still paying to get our clothes washed. This virus is going on and I’m force to go out around people to wash clothes. This is very unfair and crude. When they was taking the washing machine I was advised it need rods also. When they add the rods and the repairs that probably would put the cost over $400. I could have purchase another washing machine. Who suppose to pay me for my gas, money For washing all these clothes and my washing machine? My husband told me just go buy another washing machines but what about all those several years we have paid for this warranty. I’m in the process of going getting a new washing machine and I want all my money back.

They do not "fix" anything and if they can stick you with the charge of the "bandaid" they will. Examples of complaints I have:
    1. They charge you more, for a service fee, than if you just called the contractor yourself... I asked the technician how much it would be if I called them directly and it was a significant lower amount than what I pay AHS.

    2. My AC stopped working, the freon had leaked out, the contractor came out and I had to pay for the freon and the service fee. 2 months later it had leaked out again... They sent a different contractor with the same result, I paid for both again. The same thing has been happening every summer since I bought the house, 3 yrs ago, and they still will not replace any pieces or parts.

    3. They deny work orders without letting you know... Called the assigned Contractor the day after I put in a request for service, they told me AHS had already denied the service before the contractor even got the request or came out.

    4. They do not inform you if the contractor cancels the service... I called the contracted AC company after they didn't show up for an appointment time, to find out that the contractor had called AHS and cancelled the appointment 4 days prior, after waiting on hold for an hour, AHS confirmed that the contractor had cancelled 4 days prior but had no answer as to why I didn't hear anything from AHS.

    5. They cancel work request without telling you.... The AC contractor had already told them what was wrong with my AC and they denied the claim the first time, so when I put in another claim, paying the service fee each time, the same AC contractor put in the recommendation for a second opinion. Instead of setting that up, AHS just cancelled the service request. It took me calling the AC Contractor to find out, that they had asked for second opinion, and then again waiting on hold with AHS, to find out AHS had cancelled the work request and when asked why AHS cancelled, their response "I don't know, they just did." There are so many more Examples I could give on how they do not care about their customers, but I have already taken enough of your time. Please heed my advise and, if you must have a warranty company, go with someone else. I will not ever purchase one again, after this 2 yr experience.

I have my heater checked and cleaned out once a year at my expense. While the tech was here he noticed that my over flow tank on my water heater was leaking very steadily and took pictures and showed me. It is located close to my new heating system located in my garage. He stated that he had another job to go on but this needed to be changed right away and could get the part and come back. If the tank blew it could cause a lot of damage to my new heating system and other things in my garage.

I got on the phone to AHS and it took over an hour and half and explained what was happening to the AHS rep. He stated I needed to make a claim. I said, "I am doing that now." Then the tech that noticed the leak pulled up with the part. Earlier I got a decent quote from him and told the rep on phone who said I still needed to make a claim, which I thought I was doing. The rep on phone stated they could have someone out in 48 hours and I asked the rep what sense it made when there was a tech in my front yard with the part ready to fix it who noticed it. And the AHS told me to ask the Tech if he work with AHS and the tech said we work with all home warrant companies.

I proceeded to tell the AHS rep what the tech said and he went back to the phrase I needed to make a claim. Not sure what I was doing on the phone the whole time. I told him I wanted to speak to a supervisor and make a complaint and was hung up on. I then sent my invoice and pictures along with my complaint and asked to be reimbursed and AHS denied my request and said they use their own techs. I actually saved time, money and probably more damage by doing what I did and the customer service tech did not take my claim down as my tech said he would wait if AHS wanted him to. Totally disappointed in the service provided by AHS this time around.

I used to love AHS. I have had them for some time now and have also used this service in the past with multiple properties. Overall, I have always had a pleasant experience and have recommended this service to professional colleagues, as I am in the Real Estate industry. As of late, it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get a representative on the phone for any department. I have been on hold for no less than 30 minutes up to over 2 hours to speak to someone! (I have screenshots) These are not issues that can be resolved online. Once I FINALLY get a rep on the phone, they can barely speak English! Or understand what I am asking!!! It is also misleading that the website states someone is available to take your call 24/7 however most of the departments I have needed to communicate with, do not open until 9am Central Time. Temple Realty is the callback number they use after holding your place in line.

I have sent Twitter messages, emails and requested a supervisor on multiple occasions. Again, put on hold for HOURS! The only reason I have not cancelled my current service for my primary residence is because I have been trying to get my microwave replaced since May 25th. The vendor came out for 2 minutes and stated he could not fix it. I have only been able to reach the appliance department one time and the person was supposed to send me an email with my options and never did. Also, the regular customer service has no notes or connection to any other department at all! Therefore, I must explain over and over and over what I am trying to accomplish. I don’t understand how a company can run in this manner....I am beyond enraged. I would like my appliance replaced (microwave). And 1 month of refund for BOTH of my properties because I have been unable to cancel due to no one EVER answering the phone!

Mind you my bank account was immediately charged my “service fee”. Many hours were spent on the phone and many $$ out of our pocket as we had to wait so long for a repairman that our pool turned green, etc. After having the repairman that I HAD TO CONTACT MYSELF attempt repairs & eventually replacement, I am told that AHS will not refund me because they didn’t authorize. REALLY??? And I needed this service why exactly??? My monthly payment, a service fee and the entire cost of replacing a pool pump!! I do NOT recommend anyone waste their time or money with this company! Now I’m waiting to see if they will let me out of my contract without wasting more $ & AHS has not responded to my complaint.

I took the second option, of taking cash option. I was told by the cash department has issued the check, however 6 weeks passed and I am still waiting. I called customer service, waited 45 minutes, an agent picked up, and provided no details. Agent connected me to 'cash out' department. The call got disconnected after 5 minutes of getting transferred. I am at a loss, how AHS get highly rated. My experience so far has been pretty bad customer service. Hopefully, someone at AHS will look at this case and provide me a feedback.

My AC claim went pretty well. I was quite pleased with the technician guy. When he came in, he was very friendly. Before he even started working on and diagnosing my problem, he told me that he had been to quite a few homes in my neighborhood and he could almost guarantee what my issue was because it had been the same in every home that he went to. Sure enough, he went out to my unit and took it apart and showed me that it was the exact same thing. My next-door neighbor had the same issue, and then my neighbor across the street, and a couple of neighbors on the street in front of me and another street behind me. All our air conditioners went out on the same day and we all had the same issue. So the technician guy was telling me that PG&E did a surge and it blew everyone’s units out.

The tech checked the thermostat and he went out and checked the unit. I sat there and I watched him and he said that my Freon level and everything was good in the unit. It was an easy-breezy visit. He resolved the issue in 45 minutes. If I had an issue, I went online and I did the order on the request online with American Home Shield. The only thing that took a while was to get the parts of my refrigerator. I had to wait an extra couple of weeks for the parts. So for those couple of weeks, I was without food because I couldn’t buy anything because I had no refrigerator to put anything. Everything that I had spoiled. So I had to replace all of my groceries. But other than that, everything was good.

We were with American Home Shield, left then went back to them. This last part we've been with them probably at least four years. The washer went out last year in August. The technicians came in and said it was one part. A guy came in to replace that part and said we needed a whole new machine because this was also wrong. We had to order a new washer and we did it through the warranty so it didn't cost us anything. They took overall from start to finish, about a month. Each part took one week for this and one week for that.

We called in another claim on a Saturday when our AC unit was running constantly then it flooded out on the floor. American Home Shield sent out United Air and they had their guy here by Wednesday. He found that the relay switch had burned out and it was fused to another wire. That was what was causing it to continually run. He ordered a part that day and it was in by the next Tuesday. The contractor was out that Wednesday. It was a total of 10 days from start to finish, which was not bad. United Air sent one of their managers out too on the Friday after that to talk about our whole system and where we were with it.

We only had two bad incidents with American Home Shield and I don't blame them. I blame the technician that was sent and I told them that. One was for the refrigerator that was freezing over and the technician sort of looked at it and said to use a hairdryer to thaw it out then left. He was like, "If you do that, then you can pay for me to come back." And I said no. I complained to American Home Shield about that technician. I just got a new refrigerator because it was something else wrong. At that point, I was frustrated.

Another time we complained about the AC unit running continually. This was with a different company. The tech came in and said he didn't know what was happening because it was not running right then. The other guy from United Air that came in opened the box up and said, "There's your problem. This is what you need." He went outside to check the outside unit and he took the inside unit. He was very thorough.

This one on the AC, we were lucky. The AC switch it melted to another wire and the guy from United Air said we could have had a house fire with that. Two months later, it's still running in. But we called because of water had bottomed out. We were like, "I'm not gonna pay for them to come and say, 'I can't do anything 'cause it's not running,'" again because it wasn't always running. It was like a hit or miss. It would run for three days then shut off.

But both those times cost me the extra $100 dollars for my fee that I pay because of the technician who got sent basically didn't know what he was doing. I was never refunded that money from the home warranty. I just had to deal with the fact that they sent the bad technicians. When a bad technician is sent, that we should be reimbursed that fee. If he comes in and says, "I can't do anything because it's not running," I shouldn't have had to pay $100 dollars for that. They should not hire that company. The warranty company should get their money back or should not give that money to that technician. I shouldn't have to be out that money for that bad call. Overall, there's room for improvement. American Home Shield is not horrible. I've had worse, which is why we're back with them.

At one point, the other home warranty we had changed the rates on us. I was like, "This other one's back to the old rates that we were having. Let's try them." Our mortgage company also changed this one time. Once we were sort of free of those two, I went back to American Home Shield because overall they were very responsive. They have sent out good technicians although every now and then, they get a dud.

Appliance Surgeons is always on time. They did a good job on this last appliance, which was the refrigerator. They could not fix that one, so they referred it back to American Home Shield. They gave us another company, Appliance Masters. But I’ve dealt with Appliance Surgeons before, and I’ve never had a problem with them. They're very professional, and most of the time, they're able to fix the appliance. The refrigerator has a compressor problem with it, and Appliance Surgeons couldn't replace a compressor.

I really recommend American Home Shield to any homeowner that has a home. It is a really good investment. The only complaint I have about it is trying to get through the customer service. It takes forever. I hung on the phone two or three times with them before and had to wait almost an hour to get through. On the last call, it did give me a feature to have them call me back, and that was what I did. So, now I know to just kinda listen in, and when that feature come up, I just put my number in and just have them call me back. I really like it. That improvement is wonderful because I don’t wanna sit on the phone over an hour just waiting to get through.

AHS was were prompt and they were able to find me a contractor in a very reasonable amount of time. They also did their best to keep in contact with the provider. The contractor was excellent. Due to the COVID-19, before he came in, he had on the shoe protectors and a mask. He knew what he was doing and explained to me why they were so busy and whatnot. I appreciated that. Unfortunately, my AC unit went out the Sunday before Memorial Day. They were closed on Monday, and they had about 250 service calls on Tuesday morning. It was hot in this house and I was a little agitated, but I was fine.

What needs to happen is that these companies need to really work hard at communicating with the clients if they're gonna be running late. I called that Tuesday morning and the only thing the one person told me was that I was on the list and they would be calling me back within an hour. But they never called me back that Tuesday. When they finally did call me back the following day, I explained to them that I understood if your schedule was hectic. But the fact that the company did not communicate well to the customer what was going on, it added to my frustration. I’d gotten to the point where I was ready to see if there was somebody else that could do it because I hadn't heard anything. You'd never know what's going to need repairing and having a warranty is very important. I wish I could’ve gotten it sooner, but now that I got it, I really enjoy it.

Everything went well with our AC claim, except for having to wait because they were busy and they were backed up. We had to wait a few days without having any cold air in here. With the heat here where I live, it was awful. American Home Shield may not have enough contractors. But when the contractor came out, they did their job and they did it well.

Before this claim, we had a claim for a toilet that wouldn't flush. The contractor came out and switched the toilets because they couldn't do anything with the one we had. But they didn't give us one that was similar to it. When I asked them if they could, they said "No," that they had to give us what they picked, which wasn't to my liking. But there was another one that was similar to mine that was the same price as the one that they installed. So I was not very happy with that and I'm still not happy with the toilet. American Home Shield has been great overall. But I wish other things were covered under the plan. I live out in the country and we have a well, which is something that isn't covered. We recently had problems with that and I had to pay out-of-pocket. So the well pumps should be covered.

I had an error message on my dryer. By the time the tech from Universal Repair came, he tested if everything worked and there was nothing he needed to do. He just said, "Call us back if there's anything else that goes wrong." It's been working ever since. We've had several issues with American Home Shield, some good, some bad. We're moving in a couple of months and I don't know if we're gonna use them in our new house.

I had water damage on the ceiling downstairs which was right underneath the shower. It looked like it was leaking around the tub portion through the tile. I thought it was a plumbing leak but when IGD Plumbing came out and looked, it wasn't a pipe issue. The guy said it was coming around somewhere from the shower instead of down through the pipe. So there wasn't really anything for him to do. It was like a caulk or cracked grout issue or something where it was getting by.

American Home Shield has come in handy when I've needed it and it has been nice to be able to have somebody scheduled and come out. For the most part, the claims submission has been pretty easy and I've been relatively pleased with it. It's just the nature of the beast with a lot of the appliance stuff where the guys come out, look the issue and then say 95% of the time that they don't have a part with them. They usually have to order it and that can be another week before they get back and put it in. Other than that, everybody has been pretty much on time within the time period that's been scheduled. This most recent one with the washer and dryer took longer to get the parts but that went bunched up with the coronavirus.

Sirius Plumbing & Air Conditioning came and they went from fixing the water heater to replacing it. They had to put in a new system kinda on the fly though. They got it all done but they had to call another person to come help the guy that was there by himself. That guy came and they put it in together. They were there for a long time but not without reason. It went good. The only complaint I have is that I put a warranty on a hot water heater and when it went out, it still cost $1,000 to get it replaced. If American Home Shield knows there was gonna be all these additional fees, these "customizations", in replacing a water heater then those fees should be part of the coverage or at least a portion of it. Also, they shouldn't act like it's a surprise because obviously, it's not. They're working with plumbers all the time. They know that plumbers have other fees.

When it's one little thing that goes wrong, they come and fix it, and you pay the $75 fee. But when it's something major, they're really not covering it. American Home Shield said they were gonna pay for the $300 water heater but that I had to pay another $1,000 on top of that and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff that was not covered. That should not be the case. That's not really coverage. That's like telling me I have a warranty on my car and then not covering 90% of the cost. That's kinda ridiculous. I've been paying $60 a month for 15 years. But I'm not mad. It's easy to submit a claim. You just go online and put it in then somebody from the vendor calls you within a couple of hours.

Normally I would have positive reviews for AHS. Unfortunately, this last experience I have had has been nothing short of a NIGHTMARE! Every time I call, I wait on hold for just under one hour. Then, when I speak to a representative, they say there is nothing they can do about my issue (which is that my appliance has not been fixed yet and it's going on 8 weeks). I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told he would call me...I never got the call. So I called again and was told I would be called back TODAY! Again, no return call. I have spent countless hours on the phone with AHS, and countless weeks on the incompetent contractor to service my appliance and I'm still in the same position I was in on May 7th when I made the service request! I am at my wit's end and have officially cancelled my policy with AHS. Very sad and disappointed in AHS. I have been with them for about 20 years now. Onto something new I suppose.

After 2 different contractors had to come out to prove the microwave was unfixable, AHS sends a sub-part replacement that was $700 cheaper than the microwave that died. Second claim was our AC quit working. It took 5 different contractors to determine all it needed was a new control board. The first 2 contractors insisting it was a leaking evaporator coil and AHS didn’t cover that so it would cost me $400. The 3rd and 4th contractor said evap coil was fine needed a new control board. Finally, 2 months later the 5th contractor came out to replace control board. It took 10+ calls to AHS each averaging 45 mins and 5 days of PTO to sit at home and wait for numerous contractors. Avoid AHS home warranties at all costs!!!

Updated on 08/14/2020: AHS reached out to me after I wrote my first review here on Consumer Affairs, and offered to make the situation right. I was pleasantly surprised when this happened. At the request of the person I talked to I sent the information to them that they requested - a receipt of services performed. It has now been around 3 weeks and I have not heard anything back from them about next steps or refunding me for the work that was performed. This is despite a reminder email I sent out.

This is rather frustrating because the situation started with a bad diagnosis of my AC problem by the technician that AHS sent out. The AC person that I called out, and whose work I am trying to get reimbursed for, informed me that had AHS's technician performed the work they were planning on (and couldn't because they didn't have the equipment) there was a good chance that I could have been in a worse situation than I am now, being out $800 because I paid to have the work done since I couldn't wait for AHS to send out another technician. Being without AC with humidity and temps in the high 90s was a no go with a 4 month old baby in the house. At this point I would say that having the home warranty was/is pretty useless and people are better off saving their money to pay for fixes out of their own pocket rather than giving it to AHS who will send out unqualified technicians that can't perform the work anyway.

Original Review: Hard to get someone on the phone. Told me 5 minute wait to talk to a representative. Ended up waiting over 30 minutes. Sent out an inexperience HVAC company that incorrectly diagnosed our problem. They diagnosed the problem as preventative maintenance, which is not cover by the warranty, and wanted to charge us double, almost triple, what it should have cost. Then AHS makes it practically impossible to get a second opinion that is covered by the warranty. Have a reputable company out to look at the unit and the problem was diagnosed as mechanical, which should be covered under warranty. However, AHS won't respect that HVAC contractors diagnosis because they are out of the AHS network. This is a pretty useless home warranty.

It started making some noise and we went over there to see what it was doing. It got slower and slower and then made the noises. So, the contractor changed a couple of relays and said, "No, your fan is good. It's coming on now" -- but, I think it had to get hot to start doing that. Then, that same night after he left, it did the same thing again. I do not feel like they listened to what we were trying to tell that we heard the first time. The guy could have got it fixed the first time. But, they came back out and fixed it, and it has been fine since. Overall, it was okay.

We are now 5 days after the last repair man recommended a certain fan replacement. AHS has not "approved" the fan. In the meantime, my wife has been sickened by rotten food. Our refrigerator is 57 degrees F!

I have called daily to AHS; their call center is in the Philippines and you cannot to speak with anyone at AHS in the states. I have waited 2 hours per day every day this week, and cannot get this thing fixed. Have you ever lived without a fridge for 5 weeks. It is unbearable. Even though they are required to replace or repair the refrigerator, I will be buying a new one outside the warranty because my family is over this problem!

American Home Shield is a complete SCAM. Good business model. Repair people are paid by the insured, but if you really need an appliance, you are kept on hold for hours and your item will never be fixed. Very profitable, but the worst company I have ever worked with by a wide margin. If there was a place to go and speak with these people in person, it would be an ugly scene.

My nephew’s wife has AHS. She was happy with them. So I followed her. My recent claim with AHS was for a tankless water heater. It was a little bit more difficult than if it would have just been a regular water heater. The contractor had to get on the phone with somebody else to get it straightened out. Then, since the unit was a whole six years old, it was obsolete, they just had to replace it. I was without hot water for about three and a half weeks. It was shipped really fast and they had to figure out what the problem was. They had to ask American Home Shield if it was okay if they replace it or not, and then they had to wait and they asked me if it was okay if they charge me $489 because it wasn’t the exact same thing that I had before, so they had to move some pipes.

The fellow that they sent out from Plumb Genius was super nice. He called a lot of times and apologized for it taking so long. When I asked that guy how much a new water heater would cost, he told me it was gonna be like $1,600. So, it ended up costing me 589 versus I would still have to pay that money to get the thing rearranged plus a plumber. It would cost me $100 to come out to see it. I would have spent over $2,100. So 589 was much better than 2,100.

I prefer to submit claims with Home Shield online. When you call, you may get on hold and you can’t control how long that phone call is gonna take but it seems to work better if you go online. It's easier and it's so much faster. You get the phone call and the texts back letting you know everything you need to know very quick. If you don’t like the company that they selected, you can switch. If you know of a company that they work with and that you like and trust, they let you use that company. Every time we’ve had to use them for anything, it’s pretty much right there. We only pay $75 and it’s been pretty good for us. I hear people complain about Home Shield once. They're paying that money and they don’t use it. But when it’s a home, you’re gonna need repairs. It’s a comfort thing for us.

I put in a request for hot water heater replacement. But at first, Home Shield was thinking that maybe it wasn’t heating and it may be something simple. A gentleman from Service Contractors Plumbing came out the first time and he said something was just not lit. A couple of days go by and the water wasn’t heating again. Those guys came back out and looked at it again. He said that it would need to be replaced.

Home Shield called me and explained the whole process, what they would cover and what they wouldn't. It's 15 years old and there are certain things that have to be added because it’s a different time. There are certain add-ons needed that they don't cover, but they explained everything very well to me. They let me know what my out of pocket would be versus theirs. It went pretty well. The guys came out and they replaced everything. The city had to come out to do their check because it’s hot water heater and everything went pretty good. It was kinda a seamless process. Home Shield has always been like that with us. They've always been good for my family.

    Reviewed June 23, 2020

The air condition in the upstairs of my house was put in in July of 2018, but we've constantly had an issue with it. The unit is in a closet right above my kitchen and it has a PVC line that goes from the pan that catches all the condensation from our AC and goes into the sewer system. We have a device that the AC people had put on those pipes. If the line would ever get clogged up, it automatically shuts off our air condition, so that it doesn't continue to overflow the pan and keep coming down to the kitchen. Each year or twice a year, whenever it's really hot or it's raining a whole lot, the air condition pan would leak into the ceiling of our kitchen.

I've already fixed the ceiling twice and every time we call, we have an air condition man come out, which was never L & W (the company that installed the air condition to begin with). Whenever they would come out, they'd mess with the PVC pipes. The last person that had been here was a very nice man from Lanier Air Condition and Heating. He said he didn't how they had the drain line hooked up there and that something was not right with it. He adjusted it and blew it out to make sure that it was clear. The Thursday before Memorial Day weekend, my air conditioner started leaking into my kitchen again. To me, it seemed that the plumbing must've been backed up but what was happening was that the device that was supposed to automatically shut off our air condition didn't stop it.

I went to the cleanout that's closest to my house, and when I opened that up, I saw that the water was clogged up all the way to the top. It wasn't draining, so we turned off the air condition manually and then I put in a call to American Home Shield saying that I had a stoppage. Strong River came out really quickly on Friday and the man that came, Mr. **, told me that he didn't know why my air condition was leaking. It was supposed to be Strong River Air Condition, AC and Heating, so I was under the impression that they were not only plumbers but they were AC people also. To me, it wasn't like my air condition was malfunctioning. I was thinking it was all part of this blocked sewer line.

When they started checking things out, they realized that the second cleanout was clogged up. It's near my property line that hooks the sewer line into the city sewage. We needed to get the city to come and use their Roto-Rooter thing or whatever they've got on a big truck to clean out the line that enters my sewer line into the city sewer line. With the pandemic and everything, the city was already closed. It was after 12 o'clock and nobody was going to be there on the weekend or on Monday. On Tuesday morning, after I had left several messages, I just went to our city hall and told them I was having this issue. They said that the machine that they use to clean that out was broken and they didn't know when the part was coming in to fix it.

There wasn't anything Strong River could do to help me until the city sewer line was unclogged. The city did come out though and just used what they call a rod. It wasn't going to cure the problem, but it was going to help alleviate some of the water in the sewer line. Finally, a week or so later, the city got the machine fixed, and they came out and cleared the line. Everything was cleared, but then the air condition kept leaking. The water was leaking down the wall and we had to put a bucket in the return air and keep throwing the water out to be able to use the unit upstairs because that's where all our bedrooms are. It was a frustrating thing.

Mr. ** told me to call him once the city had unclogged the line, so he could come and recheck the plumbing to make sure I didn't have any other stoppages and that granted all my toilets were flushing okay and the tubs were draining all right. I wasn't having any problems with that. It was just the air condition kept leaking. I called him on that Monday after the city had gotten the line free and he said he was going out of town the following day. He could be here on Wednesday instead. I said that it would be fine and that since we've been dealing with it all this time, we would just keep the bucket.

On Tuesday however, I decided to call American Home Shield and open up a ticket on the air condition. Because if this doesn't have anything to do with the stopped up plumbing issue, there has to be something wrong with the air condition. When I told American Home Shield about the situation I was in, the person who was taking my service call over the phone was very nice. He understood what I was telling him and got everything going. I told him that I wanted Strong River to be the service people to come back out on the air condition since they've been here, and they knew what was going on with my problem. The next thing I knew was I was getting a call from Chuck with the Lanier Air Condition place.

He told me he has been to my house before and he knew what I was talking about with the air condition line, so I said maybe AHS just decided to send him instead because he has been here the last time. To make a long story short, Strong River never came back because the plumbing was clear. The guy from Lanier came and he started checking everything out. As he looked further into what was going on with the air condition, he realized that the air condition and furnace had never been installed properly on the platform. It was leaning towards the right rear and the water was then running to that side of the pan and it was leaking down the wall, in the inside of the return air.

That was why it wasn't even getting water into the drain line, so I could shut the air condition down if it started leaking. It was ridiculous. This has been going on now since they put in the new air condition in 2018 and we kept blaming it on the plumbing. He told me he could fix it for me, but he had to call it in to American Home Shield and let them know what was going on. When he called them in, they said that this was not on under any kind of guarantee because this air condition was installed two years ago. The installation problem is not American Home Shield's fault or under their guarantee.

It was so unfair. How was a layperson supposed to know that their air condition unit wasn't installed properly by the company that got sent out by American Home Shield? They have also never been the company that was called back here whenever I complained that the air condition was dripping into my kitchen. After I got a phone call from somebody from American Home Shield, I explained this whole story to that person. She said she would see what she could do and she'll get back with me. I think she was trying to get in touch with the people that installed the new air condition unit, but nobody ever called me back.

I gave them four days to get back with me and when I didn't hear from anybody, over a weekend again, I asked Chuck how much he was going to charge to fix this thing. He told me he was only charging $162 and he said he had to get it lifted up and fix the platform level. I've paid $100 every time an air condition man has come out here only to not ever fix what was really wrong with it, so I told him we would just pay for it. I wrote Chuck a check which was 173.34 and he fixed the platform, plus a big gap on the right hand side next to the wall where the platform wasn't closed up all the way. All this time, for the last two years, it has been sucking air from our attic, which causes more condensation when it's really hot, so we kept getting this leaking coming down our ceiling in the kitchen.

When Chuck was leaving, he said American Home Shield was not letting him complete the job. I said, maybe they still got the ticket open because they're trying to get L & W to pay for it. The guy that comes isn't always the person or the subcompany that's going clear the problem. Strong River had a separate plumber that was going to come here and do the plumbing. Lanier Heat and Air Condition does what they say they do and Chuck comes out and works on air conditioners. Now, L & W was another one of those things. The man that owns it had a cousin or a nephew who came to install the air condition. That guy never came and looked to see if everything was okay.

The sad part about it was when the air condition was installed, we also paid $1,000 to put a new furnace at the same time. The air condition was going out and the furnace was just as old and we figured to just pay that ourselves. When they were finished installing it, they turned it on and had it running. It was noisy, but everything seemed to be fine. However, the guy wasn't out here 20 minutes when it started leaking into our kitchen. I had his cell phone number, so I hurried up and called him back. He turned around, came back, messed with the drain line and put the safety thing back on it. We figured it was fixed, so every other time that the air conditioner leaked down into the kitchen, we've always blamed it on the plumbing.

We never thought the air condition was not installed properly, but that was evidently the problem. It has been a little nightmare, but I'm happy that they found what the right problem has been all along. This was after three different air condition companies have been here and never figuring out the problem until this last time, when Chuck looked at it again. I can't blame him for coming this time and finally realizing what was wrong, but the claim was all the way back for two years ago and money has just been flying out the window. I've paid the $100 service charge for the plumbing being backed up when it wasn't even my fault as well. It was the city's fault with their cleanout.

Also, I kept thinking that the safety feature device that was supposed to turn my air condition off if my plumbing was ever backed up again never worked, but it never was going to work because my line wasn't clogged up. That device was put in when our air conditioning was leaking down into my kitchen really bad one time. I knew it was going to take a few days before we got anybody from American Home Shield who would come and work on the air condition, so I paid a local company not contracted with AHS. The man that came flushed out my unit because at the same time my plumbing was backed up. He flushed that drain line then he started me out with that safety feature on it.

Every house that we've ever had, we've had American Home Shield as our warranty. I'm used to all the phone calls, the holding and all that sort of thing, but I don't think we should have had to pay for this. I've been a customer of American Home Shield for over 30 years and most of the time, it's satisfactory. It takes a little battling sometimes though. I've had a bad situation with the stove in my kitchen and that went on forever. That was when Sears used to do the claims and I've had issues with them when they came here. A man had come out for our stove, because the oven wasn't coming on.

He diagnosed it as being a bad thermostat and when checking on the part, he said that it was no longer available. He then charged American Home Shield $190 something for doing absolutely nothing. I knew a lot about kitchen appliances because I worked for 15 years for my dad's service company and after looking online to see if I could find a replacement part, I found that there was a replacement for the thermostat. I went and bought it myself, but then the guy from Sears refused to install it because it wasn't their part. I have a $5,000 JennAir 48-inch range with the six burners and double ovens. With the part not being available, American Home Shield was only going to give me 600 to buy a new gas range.

The new gas range to put in the place of the one that I have now costs about $8,000. I ended up getting a whole other company, Stringer, to come and diagnose the unit. The issue ended up being the igniter was gone and not the thermostat. Also, the igniter that had been replaced on my stove by a prior Sears serviceman was not the right voltage to begin with. That was why my oven took forever to pre-heat and it finally went out. Stringer replaced it with the correct part, so my $5,000 stove is just working fine. However, I paid $400 for a thermostat which my stove didn't need. It also took so long trying to get somebody to install it for me that when I wanted to return it, I had to do a restocking fee.

The claim went on for at least a month. Did I have problems? Yup, I had problems with that, but I have my stove and I didn't have to spend $7,000 to replace what I had already. I was just out a few hundred dollars because American Home Shield ended up paying for the bill, which wasn't bad at all. With another claim, I think that the igniter was out on my dryer and I don't think it was the motor, but that same man from Sears condemned my dryer, which caused us to have to go buy a new one and you only get a certain amount of money to replace the dryer. We then had to chip in the balance of it as well. All in all, American Home Shield tries to rectify and keep customers happy, but with some of the things that have happened, I'm not completely satisfied.

I stay with American Home Shield because I live in an antebellum home. We have renovated it and put all new appliances in 11 years ago, but it's still an old house and things go out. My husband and I are into our late 60s now and I don't work anymore. He still works, but we don't have available funds to be able to have to replace a dishwasher, a stove or other different appliances like that, especially the air condition. We have a large air condition unit for the downstairs in our house (the upstairs unit was the one that we have had the issues with the leaking), and they have replaced it twice. If we would have had to pay for that air condition unit out of pocket, I'd much rather pay $600 as an insurance policy. We're also not that handy. There are a lot of things that might go wrong here and we need somebody to come and help us repair it.

When the water heater was leaking from the top, the contractor couldn't repair it. It had to be replaced but it took a while to find one that’ll fit because ours was pretty old and it wasn't being made anymore. He had to find one that was comparable to what we had and he found one. We then gave him the money to go get it. We got it and put it in. We had an issue with our air conditioner unit's Freon last year. The contractor put the Freon in, checked the air conditioner out and made sure it was okay.

The claims process was pretty easy. We had moved into the home so we wanted, for safety purposes, to rekey all the locks. I was told to expect contractors within 48 hours, and that’s exactly what happened. The tech from Realty Rekey was fantastic. He was very helpful and all the keys work properly. Some were turned upside down, so he was nice enough to turn them the right side up.

The guy from Rush Heating and Cooling was here probably 15 minutes tops the first time he came out. The day he came out and went in the basement, I told him the unit is not getting cold. We turned it on 2 or 3 days before. He came back outside to the unit, opened it up and turned everything off in the basement. He cleaned the unit out and changed out something. Once he did that, he said I should be good. He left and that night, the unit never got cool. I called Rush back and they told me to call American Home Shield to set something up for them to come out. Then the guy came out and he was more thorough this time. He probably had more job to do the first day he came. I took him straight to the line and told him it was freezing. He cleaned that line out and everything was good after that. He was very courteous. As soon as he walked in, he took his shoes off. He was also very professional.

My mother-in-law introduced me to American Home Shield. I never deal with them unless I talk to somebody live. I've had problems with them in the past because they have made me pay for things and I didn't think it was how the warranty went. With the AC this time, when I didn’t have to pay for anything, it was like a breath of fresh air. I thought this is how this is supposed to be ever since I've been with the company.

There was a broken component in the cooling portion in the evaporative cooler in the attic and when the contractor did their parts search, they could not find any manufacturer that manufactured the component parts. Their solution was to replace the unit. AHS had to pay a portion and I had to pay a portion. The process of filing my claim was very simple. Kingwood Air Solutions did their write-up and sent it off to AHS, then I had a very brief phone call with AHS. They sent me an email that said what portion they were paying and what the portion I had to pay for the resolution. AHS does a good job with repairs, but when a unit has to be replaced, the homeowner is responsible for a significant chunk of the replacement cost.

They're coming for plumbing, but they're also checking our electrical. They look at all angles and they're really friendly too. I submit our claim to AHS online. Then typically, since we’re familiar with Certified now, we would just call Certified right after. But everything, we just did right through the internet.

It probably had something to do with the fact that the part that replaced was leaking. So hopefully, it's supposed to do that. It took two days from the time I filed the claim to the time it was fixed. I hope that AHS has the option to switch to the company that could get out quicker.

American Home Shield sent out A Wisdom Electric and they did a great job. I had two items, where one of which the guy said he could not fix because it had been a faulty installation. When I bought the place, the ceiling fan in the garage was working, and then it did not. He said that he could not fix it because it was not up to code. So, it is still hanging out there. I would have loved to have had that thing fixed.

The other item, on the other hand, was a ceiling fan in the bedroom whose motor I could hear. He went inside and found that there was a small part that had to replaced. He had to stand on my bed, and he did not put a cloth over the bed, but he took his shoes off. He is from Russia, and I always like Russian repairman because they have had to do everything. They have learned how to do anything that nobody else knew how to do. He was prompt, on time, and he did the work. In summary, the experience was somewhat satisfactory given the fact that half of the order could not be completed.

Over the last three years I've had American Home Shield, they have been able to solve my issues for the most part. However, I had a negative experience with a previous service for my dryer. It took four weeks to get that fixed as their contractor diagnosed the problem incorrectly a few times. Their contractor came back and fixed what they thought the problem was. Then, they had to go wait for approval. That took forever but eventually, the issue got fixed. Most recently, I had a plumbing claim and The Plumber DBA Robco Enterprises, one of AHS's contractors, came. They were on time, they were efficient, they knew what they were doing. I had a pretty good experience with them.

They told me they were gonna give me $230 to replace a water heater, which was ridiculous. You can't buy a water heater for $500. How can anybody expect that they can replace one for less than that? I had to pay 400, plus the 150 that I paid AHS. My AC keeps breaking down and they sent people out three times. The first time was just after the 90-day window, so I had to pay another deductible. They came out two times since then and the AC is currently having the same issue that it has been having. I'm very dissatisfied and ready to cancel.
