When our air conditioner wasn't working properly last month, I contacted American Home Shield and then we contacted A & R once they gave us them as the provider that was going to come into the home to do the service. I made the appointment with them and then they came over to the house the following day. They were awesome. The guy showed up on time and he was very courteous and polite. He did the job and the next thing we knew was the air started working. He showed me the receipt and told me that if I had any problem within the next 60 days to just give him a call. Also, I should contact American Shield first and let them know that he may have to come back out. Everything has been working fine so far.
Shawn,
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

The AC wasn’t working so I thought it was an AC issue. When I called Home Shield, I had to hold for 20 minutes ‘cause they said it was gonna be delayed so I waited for it. But once someone answered the phone, the person was pretty quick. Right after I hung up with whoever was assisting me, the AC company called and we we were able to schedule for the next day. When the AC guy came out, he said that he didn’t do anything because nothing was wrong with our AC and that it had something to do with the electrical. They weren't not gonna charge me but I had to call Home Shield and let them know that the issue was not AC.
I called American Home Shield right after he left and I told them that the AC guy said that they were not gonna charge it. If I just called again and said that I would pay another $75 for the electrician they might've come right away. But then they took almost one week to just get an electrician guy to come out. I had to wait for a week without the AC running and that was a really frustrating moment that I had experienced with the Home Shield. I had to call every other day for the status. But I understand that they have a policy to waive the $75 for me. I am happy with them so far.
When the electrician came out, they said it had nothing to do with the electrical and that it was the AC. So, the AC guy came out three times and the electrician came twice. I also asked if the AC guy and the electrician to come out at the same time to figure it out. It was getting hot. But it seemed like they didn't care. I wasn’t happy about their knowledge or how they handled the claim. So, I called my electrician guy on my own and we resolved it. They had to do the electrical panel work a little bit. It was an electrical issue but the electrician sent by AHS couldn’t figure it out.

American Home Shield is the worst possible thing that we ever did. They continue to band-aid the problem. Air conditioner has been out since 6/11/2020, called in today 6/18/2020. The problem was sent to them on 6/15/2020 and the company that had diagnosed the problem had been waiting for an authorization to order THE PARTS. When I ask WHY they had not authorized was told that is in the process... REALLY and how long does that process take 24 - 48 hours...REALLY and 6/15/2020 3 days ago and WHERE are we on that AUTHORIZATION. I will check on that - as of now we have no resolution to our problem and guess what- WE are done.
The company that is fixing the AC gave us one estimate and American Home Shield gave us another and this goes on every time we have an issue. So AGAIN - Canceling this TODAY - 6/18/2020 after having an AIR conditioning company come access the issue to find out that we probably have another issue that they are just doing another band aid and then guess what - American Home Shield and Myers gets more money. Every time they come out we have to have refrigerate added... so more dollars. They are a piece of CRAP.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

Updated on 07/01/2020: I feel the obligation to make a follow up on my situation with this company. Now I complete 23 days without AC in Miami, my wife is pregnant with 40 weeks, got sick because of the high temperature and we are expecting our baby for this weekend. It is Wednesday July 1st and I submitted the initial request on June 11th, since this day all I received from AHS is contractor's is failure to execute visits, cancellations without any notifications, waiting 1 or 2 hours to be cared by a service rep who can't even transfer to a manager or someone who can expedite any service visit due to the lack of commitment with even just a diagnosis, I don't even know if the AC may be fixed.
AHS transfer to 3 or 4 different contractor companies and just 2 Technicians attended the visit, but just 1 opened up the AC unit and try to find out the issue unsuccessfully (other one was a wrong called for Electrical part, which is fine). If AHS can't commit to solve or even try to solve appliances issues, they should not be in this appliances contract business, they don't know how to manage the business. Please think twice with making business with this company.
Original review: I have an issue with my AC, called to schedule an appointment and AHS works with subcontractor companies, the one selected for service appointment made wait a whole weekend with the commitment of Technician arriving between 8am and 3pm.. had to call back on Monday and after 40 mins waiting, they scheduled another company for Tuesday.. Technician arrived and didn't even find out what was the issue.. once again after 3 days calling to AHS with wait times between 40 and 50 minutes, they told me that Technician never completed a diagnosis and I have to wait.. It is Friday of the next week and I still don't have AC working.. and even worst, no idea when do I get my AC fixed.. and here comes the weekend..

I've had an up and down couple of years with American Home Shield but when things go wrong they go really wrong. Our dishwasher control panel broke 6 weeks ago and we are still without a dishwasher. 6 weeks! I could have whittled one from wood quicker. AHS sent out Hornet Appliances of Houston to repair our dishwasher. They inspected it and told us we needed a new control panel. So far so good. They ordered the part and 2 weeks later arrived to fit it only to discover that it was the wrong part.
They ordered another part and came 2 weeks later and guess what? Same thing. Wrong control panel in the box. The poor guy that came to fit it was very apologetic and could not understand what was going on. He hoped that the office would be able to sort it the next day. I called, nobody answered. I called again. No reply. I left a message. Nothing.
Finally, I got through to somebody but they are not able to tell me what is happening. They are still 'researching' the part. I tried to call AHS to find answers but customer service keep you on hold for 40 minutes and then do not know what is going on and try to get rid of you with fake promises. If they cannot get my part they should replace my dishwasher. If it takes this long to get the parts they should replace my dishwasher as a matter of courtesy. My hands are starting to become dry because of all the dishes I am doing. I know this is a first world problem but come on AHS. I want a dishwasher. Please.

Wall unit AC stopped working, wall units are covered under the policy (section F2). The mfg. description of my AC unit states 'built-in AC'. The mfg install instructions read "through the wall AC'. Manufacturer describes it as a wall unit yet AHS stated 'not covered its a window unit'. It's installed through a wall and the mfg calls it a wall unit yet AHS makes there own description. Can't even talk to people that make decisions to dispute, only people that are reading from a script. They are only looking to make money and not cover policyholders. Avoid them at all costs.

I have made several complaints to American Home Shield regarding SWAT Plumbing company that they sent out to my house for a service call. The company did not complete the job correctly and charged $1585 for a misdiagnosis! When I notified American Home Shield the representative told me that was not their responsibility and there was nothing he was going to do about it. In fact, I needed to call the company and dispute it with them. This was very unacceptable! I have canceled my contact with them and I was a customer for almost 10 years. I cannot believe that AHS would still consider using this customer after receiving so many complaints from customers who have been scammed out of their money for poor service. See my complaint regarding the Plumbing company below.
If you're looking for a company that has technicians with several years of fake experience to misdiagnose issues, technicians that instantly develop scam artist amnesia when confronted, over charge you for services that are not needed, and provide you with the worst customer service possible then look no further, you've got the right company! S.W.A.T Plumbing!!!
SWAT Plumbing came out to my house for an issue, diagnosed the problem as my water heater, charged me $1585 to replace it....BUT unfortunately I noticed the issue still there which means the water heater was never the problem. Basically the issue was diagnosed incorrectly!! Even a second technician from THEIR OWN company confirmed it!! He said he would have his master plumber call me to discuss the misdiagnosis. After that the company immediately stopped returning my calls and refused to give me a refund! They even went as far as to start falsifying documents to my home warranty company! I knew then I was in for a fight.
I had a second company come out last week and a technician knew exactly what was wrong, provided a proper diagnosis, and fixed the problem. He never mentioned the water heater not once! Instead said my aerator on my faucet needed to be replaced. Want to try to guess how much the part cost??? $5 measly dollars!!! Instead of the company owning up to the mistake and just sending a refund, they argued the other company was wrong in their diagnosis even though they actually fixed the problem. How is that possible?? I have intentionally left out several details to shorten this up for social media but definitely have the proof to back up all claims! Google their name and you will see that I'm not the only person this has happened to. I would advise anyone that comes in to contact with them to RUN for your life and find a new company!! Thank me later!
Oh No! Thank you for providing your feedback and we do apologize that this issue has not been resolved and caused you to cancel. This will help diligently to improve overall customer experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you.Have a good weekend.

Updated on 07/23/2020: After 3 months of waiting for a repair on my washer I finally was told that AHS would replace my washer. I opted to buy my washer locally and was told if I e-mailed a copy of my receipt to AHS.POR@ahs.com I would receive my reimbursement in 7-10 business days. That was on June 24th. After 21 days I sent another e-mail asking why I had not received my check. I get a reply telling me it would now take 21 business days. Well it’s been 21 business days and I still have not received a check. I’m Beginning to think this nightmare will not end any time soon.
Original Review: I have been without my washer since March 18th. The repair man came and had to order parts. He came back 3 weeks later to replace the parts. The washer was not fixed so I had to wait again for him to come back To see what the problem was. On May 18 he came and had to order more parts. The parts were ordered on May 22. It is now June 18th and I still haven’t received the parts. I have contacted the repair service, and talked to 3 people from American Home Shield and no one can tell me if or when my washer will be repaired. Every time I call I am on the phone no less than an hour and a half with no answers.

Updated on: 13 days ago we filed our second service request for AC repair. First contractor never showed. Second contractor took 4 days before available. A/C turned off by second contractor on 6-14. Contractor says from their side it shows authorization pending while our status has gone to repair authorized and then equipment ordered. We have asked for information to be sent in writing and we have received nothing. We received one phone call last week while driving and was not able to capture all verbal information. Our contractor is not moving forward due to no communication from AHS. We have not been communicated with either. It's very hot in our home (we live in Texas) even with the fans running.
Updated on 06/19/2020: FINALLY. Received response. They want over $2000 from us to satisfy item supposedly covered under warranty!!!! Do not use this company!!!! No specifics provided by AHS. Customer service does not exist! You provided by Offshore company.
Original Review: I just got off another hour and 15 min long hold to check on a service request. I was hoping to obtain more details than what was showing as status online. This time I wanted to speak to a supervisor and had to make that request twice. I still don't know if I ever spoke to one but it was a different voice. When the online status was read to me for the third time, I asked to speak to someone who actually worked for AHS. Was told they were not allowed to discuss that and I would have to wait until the authorization department finished reviewing the contractors request. The report was sent over the evening of the 15th and not logged in until the 16th - it is now the 18th and nothing. The 24 - 48 hours that is quoted is not actually "hours" it's 1 day or 2 days and it is not from when it is sent by the contractor but from when AHS logs it in.
This service request was originally placed on 6-10-20. First contractor never showed up, never called and entered the request as cancelled. Second request required a 4 day wait for service. So it is the 8th day since service was requested AND I have been charged twice for a service call. BTW - the service is for my A/C and it's 86 degrees in my house. I've had AHS for 4 years and service in the past has never been bad like this. Beware of current conditions - 6-14-20.

I have several properties covered under AHS. I am able to open the service tickets online but if I need to reach customer service it will take at least 2 hours to talk to someone. You will get disconnected a few times in the call. I was able to talked to a customer service rep after 1 hour and then the rep forwarded my call to another department and I was put on music hold for another 2 hours. I hung up the call after that. I am paying a lot of money monthly and in service requests to this company with 6 properties. They need to hire more people on customer support or take online chat requests to resolve the issues quickly. I had to hire outside contractor to fix my tenant's dishwasher which costed me a lot. What is the point to having warranty if I had to hire someone from outside.

Updated on 07/12/2020: History/situation: Oven malfunctioned on 21st May 2020. Contractor (KTR) started troubleshooting the following week. (No complaints about KTR). Through the course of several weeks - oven deemed unrepairable. Bought new oven on 20Jun2020. Sent receipts same day to AHSPOR at AHS dot COM to review my invoice. Received confirmation email, per their department expect a 7-10 days to receive check. Called 12July2020 (22 days later), invoice still has not been processed. No check. I will tell you that there are several departments you will have to work with for any claims or issues. Customer service avg wait time is 45 -90 minutes to speak with someone. Call center is not USA so plan accordingly.
Once it's determined that KTR cannot repair, another department has to validate this. You will want to follow up here. First- the KTR has to send email/paperwork to AHS. Often they themselves cannot get through to AHS. Once this documentation has been received you can move to the department that will assist with getting you a new appliance. Avg wait time to talk to someone in this department is 4-6 hours (My experience). Dept is located in US with locations in GA and TN.
Once you get to the department to purchase new appliance, be ready (as you have reviewed and selected a model; in my case oven replacements are from SAMSUNG or GE). AVG wait time was again 4-6 hours. Recommend calling in the morning right away. Due to stock issues with appliances - lost of stuff had a lead time of 4 weeks or more. Bc of this I opted to take the cash out and purchase an oven locally so that we could get back to cooking at home. I made this decision based off the good faith that AHS would pay out as they said they would.
Plan ahead financially (if you can) as I have had to float the debt of not being able to cook at home for months and now the debt of an oven with no end in sight of being paid back as AHS indicated they would. Its seems to me that the AHS business model here is lets hope no one calls and/or tries to get new appliances through us. I find it disturbing that executive leadership at AHS remains uninvolved with these long lead times, ridiculous phone calls, and now consumer reviews. The fact that it was cheaper to use the AHS supply chain to get a new oven but no comparable oven was available leading to AHS spending more money on a cash out towards me should tell you something is wrong with this company at the top.
If you write any reviews, their marketing team will get back with you (the lady was very nice), but what she can do seems limited in nature. Is also very evident that a marketing game is going on here, as if you really dig into review websites you will see many similar posts from people about AHS. Usually around 1-2 stars.
There is no way AHS is this highly reviewed. Point in case we had a complete stranger we met a few days ago discussing something with us and somehow AHS came up. Wouldnt you know they were dealing with exact same issue (not oven related - A/C for them). The game is up AHS, get your act together. At this point I highly recommend you shop elsewhere or do your due diligence when accepting AHS. You are taking on a lot of risk.
Original Review: 18June2020. I have been without an oven for over 30 days. As I was writing this review, I received a text message notifying that my repair was done. It is not. The oven was condemned and so far I have received no follow up from AHS to replace it or offer money for a new one. A couple of notes. I did all the follow up with the contractor. I scheduled everything. I called AHS. At no time did AHS do anything to assist or follow up to ensure that my repair was going smoothly. Have you ever tried cooking for a family without an oven? I guess I should be happy we have running water.... Moreover, the additional cost of providing food that I would otherwise be cooking will not be regained (i.e. eating out, ordering food etc).
Finally, you WILL NEVER TALK TO SOMEONE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT WILL HELP YOU----- EXPECT WAIT TIMES FROM 45 MINUTES TO 4-5 HOURS OR NEVER! Customer Service call center is not located in US nor are they authorized to transfer you to other departments. Once you make it past Customer service, there is a department that reviews your repair before finalizing what the contractors say in order to move your claim to another department aka the "Cash out department". These departments are located in GA and TN. Cash out department? Good luck....
I have spent numerous days on hold for hours attempting to talk to this department. Time I will never get back. Supposedly they are to contact you within 24-48 hours per policy. I will be holding my breath... I suspect that the replacement oven will not be anywhere near the value of our VIKING oven and will actually de-value our property/kitchen. I look forward to the loss of money in my property when it comes time to resale. Maybe I am wrong, still waiting to see. As a "customer" of AHS, it's almost insulting to think that I bought this warranty of my own free will to then turn around and be treated like this. It was a risk I took (I normally would never buy a warranty but this house I bought it was necessary) and now I am paying dearly for it.
My only final recourse is to continue to write reviews and tell every soul I meet about this experience in the hopes that they never make the mistake I made trusting AHS. As an ACTIVE DUTY Military member sometimes we are moving constantly and with that sometimes buying and selling homes more frequently than other people. I will ensure anyone that I everyone I ever mentor or come into contact with that is buying a home never buys a warranty from AHS if I have something to say about it. I continue to be unable to cook for my 4 and 2 year old girls and my pregnant wife. Thanks AHS, "I'll continue to hold..."
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

This warranty is absolutely horrible. When I first bought my home 3 years ago their service was good. I had an issue with a water leak and they fixed it no problem. I am now experiencing and issue with my ac unit and was told by the technician on a Monday that within 24 hours this company will give the authorization and I will be contacted to schedule a time to fix the coil. It is now 4 days later of suffering from 90 degree weather in North Carolina and American Home Shield still have not authorized my request.
After paying this company $60.00 a month I was informed that I now have to pay $600.00 to get my ac unit fixed. This has been a horrible experience and I have dished out well over 3k to this company monthly only to be enlightened that I now have to pay $600.00 out of my own pocket to get my unit fixed while suffering this whole time in June heat. I strongly do not recommend this company or warranty for anyone. This warranty is a complete joke and is a total rip off. I am highly disgusted and refuse to give this company or any other warranty company a dime of money. This place has ruined warranty offers for me!!!! Again I strongly do not recommend this company or their services. A complete Rip OFF!!!!

My recent claim with AHS was handled so well. That was for the sump pump in the basement. So, the contractor had to just clean the pump and that was it. My coverage covered me completely for the sump pump. I just only paid for the deductible. It's easy to make a claim with AHS. Sometimes, it's difficult when I need to negotiate with the item. For example. First, I changed my furnace. So, they covered a portion of the furnace ‘cause they were trying to install a furnace that was not really like-for-like. I really cover most of my expenses to make sure they really were installing in my area that meets the standards. The contractor called me and said, “This one is not compatible. It will be a lot of work and a lot of modification.” I preferred not to do that so, I just paid extra for a different furnace.
However, the warranty option doesn’t cover everything. I can give the example of a very old microwave. They fixed the microwave. However, that was three services that took to finish the microwave, ‘cause it was not really so simple. Someone came here. They didn’t finish the whole thing, came again, and then they figured out that it was another thing. Then the third one, they replaced the whole part. But for something that really depreciated so much, they should buy something new. I think that it cost more to bring three times, the contractor, to the house, do service, and then spend for parts than bringing a new one that will not cost too much. Things like that don’t make sense sometimes. Sometimes, AHS works well, sometimes, we have difficulties.
Thanks for being a loyal customer and for sharing your experience with us. We are working to improve our process and we apologize for any issues you experienced along the way. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

I figured it was a smart idea to get a home warranty. I ended up with American Home Shield and when we couldn’t get our entire AC unit to turn on, my husband did a claim with then online. There was an immediate follow-up that they would file our claim and send it to a company that would contact us. Shropshire HVAC Repair & Service contacted us later that day which was very quick. The service was wonderful. The tech seemed like a very knowledgeable guy. He worked on something that had to do with fixing some of the wirings that were kinda underneath the house connecting the units together. Everything has been functioning perfectly and we haven’t had a single problem. With the repair, it makes a huge difference when it's hot.

First Class Water Heaters came out when the water heater wasn't working, which was kind of an emergency. The tenant had little kids and she couldn't give them showers. I called on a weekend and the contractor came out the following Monday. He assessed the problem and tried to fix it, but it wouldn't work. He had to replace the whole water heater.
They sent a request to AHS and that same day, someone from AHS called me back and said that it was approved to replace. They called the company and the plumber company called me to let me know that there were extra charges that AHS would not pay would not be responsible for. I was a little disappointed, but it made sense. I had to fork out $800 to fix it and thought it was a lot. I tried to get a couple of different quotations from different people and it was the same.
I liked the professionalism of the technician that came out. The guy was honest and I felt very comfortable that he was gonna do a good job. He was a former military. Even if the cost was a little bit more, I just went with him. He came out the very next day and everything was done within a couple of hours. I was very satisfied. I also have AHS on my house. Last year, I had a different company, and when it came time to renew, I just switched over to AHS. I'm very happy and satisfied. Everything that I would want the company to do, they did. I told my parents that with AHS they don't have to worry about fixing stuff.

The previous owners chose AHS, and I just started to renew with them. It's very easy to schedule a call and check everything online. I like the way they have laid it out on the website like what is eligible out of it, what is covered, what is not covered. That also helps me a little bit. I've used AHS twice, and my experience has been pretty good. The most recent was when we had an issue with the fridge and Mr. Appliance came in. They did a good job.

I have two warranties. In one house, Home Shield was really bad. I'm thinking of dropping because the AC and the furnace were both wrong and cannot be fixed, and I had to buy my own. They wouldn’t do anything. The technician recommended new ones, but then they said, “You have to pay $1,500, something, to put some additional work.” So, I decided to buy myself. I am seriously thinking of dropping the warranty for that house.
Rush Heating and Cooling came for the other house. The AC needed the Freon and that was it. The tech had a mask and something on his shoes and cleaned his business. However, they said the unit needed gas and they only paid $10 for it but the guy charged 100. That was too great. But what are you gonna do? A contract is a contract. But the price should be half of it.

My unit wasn't cooling so I submitted a service request with AHS online. I prefer going on the website because it is much more user friendly. There are long pauses and long waits going through customer service and things don't get done very expeditiously. When you speak to a person directly, they're normally nice. But it doesn't seem like they're properly-trained for the positions that they're in.
United Air Temp came in late May to see what the problem was because my unit wasn't cooling. The guy was very, very professional and very knowledgeable. He did above and beyond what I thought he was gonna do. He was there for three hours, from 6 PM until 9 PM at night on a weeknight, and maintained the unit, and it started cooling immediately. I haven't had an issue since.
I've had a couple of technicians out to service the AC unit over the years through American Home Shield, and he was by far the best. He explained to me what was going on every step of the way, and asked for permission to go upstairs. And I just told him, “Hey, you can go wherever you need. You don't need to ask me for permission.” He would check in periodically through the three hours he was there, just to make sure that I knew what was going on and what he had to do, and how much time he thought he had left. He was making a conscious effort to keep me in the loop and make me feel at ease that the repair was getting done properly.
But I'll have to caveat this by saying I had to call American Home Shield after they allocated my service call to United Air. I had bad experiences with that company before and the previous technicians. They said they would send out their most senior technician to help me and that's what they requested. So I'm sure that's why I got the level of service I did. I live in Florida heat. It's 100 degrees today. An air conditioning is a necessity, so I had to have it done properly. I was erroneously-charged before for Freon, which was an exorbitant cost above and beyond what the cost is for the deductible from American Home Shield. It was above and beyond what they would cover, so I understood. And that's part of their disclosure.
We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your AC request. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

I call when I submit claims with AHS and the process is fine. Also, the contractors that have been sent out have been pretty good. This last one, I had to wait a week for an appointment, which you get a lot of wet clothes in a week. The technician was kind of an older gentleman and he didn’t have any customer service skills but he did the job. We’ve been very happy with Home Shield these four times since we’ve had it.

I called and the operator on AHS's end contacted the local company in my area. They assigned it and called to let me know what day was available for me to be around here and set up an appointment. After that, the service guy came out and replaced the thermostat and checked the unit. We communicated through social distancing. He informed me and I was able to ask some questions. He gave me the answers that I needed about the unit and explained to me what do I need to do. He told me that I had a problem with the thermostat and my unit outside was overcharged with Freon. He was a very pleasant guy. He was knowledgeable of his trade and resolved my issue. It was good a good experience.

AHS sent out Burleson Services for my AC claim. They did good. They replaced the capacitor. The tech fixed the other things but he was here less than an hour. He checked to make sure the cooling and the coils on it were fine. He did a good job. He was a good guy. But the electrician that AHS sent out here ain't worth a crap. I've sent a request in for a post light outside on by the tree. They came out twice and then they followed up three or four times but they never told me that they could not go outside the house until I spent another $100 and they sent a kid out here. He told me they couldn't fix it because it's not in the area of the home. I was not happy with them. I spent $200 for nothing.
I asked AHS about getting another contactor but the rep said that they were the only one they got. So we had to hire another electrician. Overall, AHS is very efficient. Submitting the claim was very simple. You call them, tell them, and then they give their vendor number, and they call you or you call them and they come right out. They also check their contractors after a while to make sure they’re doing the right job.

And Air Climate Solutions did right away. Everything has been excellent since they came out. But we just put in a claim for a leak. We put it in on Thursday afternoon or Friday and we didn't hear anything from them. We’ve been without water. I called American Home Shield and they said they would follow up on it and that was yesterday. Today, we got a call and they're setting up an appointment to come out. I was assuming that no one works on the weekends, but I would have hoped they would have found someone that could work on the weekend to come. But it's been an excellent service.

My friend told me about Home Shield and the payments. She said she had purchased the home warranty and when her AC went off, the guys went out there and fixed it. So I decided to get it because you never know. What if something ever happens at the house? And I think Home Shield has been a good investment because I have called for a few repairs without knowing that those were gonna get messed up. Home Shield is like the best.
Cool Image Heating and AC came out once but they didn’t do much. They came in, checked the system and found that the breaker was off. We never knew it was off. We had remodeled our home and the contractor turned off all the lights and never turned it back on. But we didn’t even check the breaker. So when we turned on the AC and it was just hot, we made a call to American Home Shield to have it fixed. I spoke with someone and it was quick. Then they sent me an update of when the contractor was gonna be coming. The guy was also respectful and professional. He came to do what he had to do and gave me a copy of what he had come for. The AC is working and keeping us alive right now with this heat.

The plumbing issue was that the handle in my shower bound up inside the apparatus that actually the handle goes on and turns, it got bound up inside the wall. So, they just had to come out and pull that one piece out and put a new one in. The tech did what he needed to do and fixed with limited damage that should have been worse. I’m happy with the service I got outside of Home Shield, but I’m not very happy with Home Shield themselves.
You have to wait 45 minutes to even talk to somebody. I can’t see that being the COVID because we’re all working from home anyway. But once I got the appointment schedule for the service, the service guy got ahold of me, they came out, and they were great. So, scheduling the service after you finally get to talk to somebody after 45 minutes, it’s okay.
I set up a contract with Home Shield and they said that I had 60 days to change that contract. And I had set it up to where I’d pay $50 a month, and for each contractor visit to come out, I had to pay the $100 service fee. Within that 60 days that I had, I called to change it to where I was only paying 30 a month but doing 125 on each service call.
I called them, and called them, and probably did it four or five times. And the first time, they told me they were going to do it, and I got my bill but they didn’t do it, so I called them back. I went through these three or four times. And then finally the lady told me, “Well, you can’t do it because you’re outside your window. You have to wait until your contract renewal is up, doing in December of this year.” What they told me totally went against what they said they would do. And then after a while, they said, “Well, you’re outside your contract window now.” I’m not happy with the way they did that. I signed up in December, but I had to wait 30 days for it to start. The contract started up in January. It has only been a few months. I just bought the house in December.
Every time you call somebody from customer service, you get a different answer because the first girl told me I had 30 days, and then I told her, “I’m within my 30 days.” Then the next lady I called said up to 60 days, and then they just went crazies like nobody was on the same sheet of music. And nobody can do anything there. Because the first person I called, I had to call the Contract Department. The Contract Department said, “Oh, we’ll fix that ‘cause you’re within 30 days.” They never fixed it. Then I called back and I talked to the Contract. They said, “Well, I’m gonna have a supervisor call you back because I can’t change it, but she will change it for you.” I never received a callback from the supervisor. Nobody ever recorded that or anything.

I wish I didn't have to have so many claims but it has worked for the new house. It’s been a very frustrating experience trying to get this washer repaired. The first time Sears came to repair it, they had to order several parts, which meant we had to wait for those parts to arrive and then schedule the technicians to be here. My husband and I both work, so scheduling to be home for them was very difficult. When they finally came, they put those two parts, only to find out they needed more. They called for more parts. But for them to diagnose that, they had to bang on the washer itself. At that point, I was beginning to wonder if we’re gonna get the same product back after the washer itself had been worked on so much.
The technicians themselves were extremely polite and courteous and tried to explain the problem. Sears handled the claim beautifully, but unfortunately, the decision to continue to repair this washer has been more expensive in the long run for American Home Shield. I was without a washer since May 31 and today was the first day I finally ran my washer and unfortunately, it was making some scary sounds.
Throughout this experience, I've had to try calling Home Shield and I was on hold to get somebody to answer, one time, for 1 hour and 40 minutes. I had to see a patient at the office and I completely forgot I was on hold. When I came back to the phone, I had been disconnected and I was hoping to God somebody would call me back but nobody did. My receptionist called them again and was put on hold for approximately another hour and a half before somebody answered. But then, I was told I was with the wrong department. Luckily, they connected me to the proper department.
It’s been a run-around with them. When they checked my record, according to the part order, there was no estimated time of arrival for the part. At that point, I was desperate because I have a huge family and I have no washer. American Home Shield told me then if there was no estimated time of arrival, they would replace it or something to that effect. I wanted to confirm the replacement so I called them back. My office manager held for me for 2 hours and 45 minutes. Home Shield changed their tone. They said they can repair it so we gotta get it repaired. We just went along with it.
I just can’t believe that anyone would be put on hold that long. I don’t understand how that can happen in today’s day and age. In some companies, if we are put on hold that long, they ask if we can leave a phone number where they can call us back. But American Home Shield doesn’t seem to have that option. I would highly recommend that. Other than that, I’ve recommended it to so many people. I've been with them since ’01 and I appreciate how they replaced my appliances when it really is bad. This is just the one bad experience I’ve had. They’ve been wonderful so many times.

My garbage disposal was backed up. Heros Plumbing Service has been out to my house twice, and each time was excellent. The technician asked questions to see if he could diagnose the problem before he started tearing into the plumbing. From the questions that I answered, he said, “Oh, you know, I’m pretty sure I know what the problem is,” and he went straight to what he thought it was, and it was the problem. So, he got that. I had some potatoes or something like that that we peeled, and he said that those stuck in the little U right there. He then took it out, showed it to me, emptied it, and made sure that everything was still working properly. He also educated me a little bit on what to put down the garbage disposal and what not to, and it was done. He was great.
What I like about American Home Shield is that when I looked at other warranty companies, for them, you have to add on so many things. If I wanted my washer and dryer covered, that would have been an additional package. If I wanted my air ducts covered, that was an additional package, too. With American Home Shield, everything was included in the price. So, when I went to their website to see what the price was, there was the price, it was everything that was covered, and it was simple.

Submitting my claim with AHS was really easy, especially doing it online. However, it was a little difficult finding a provider that was available right away because I guess a lot of people's AC units were out at the same time. I had to call in order to find a different company to come out than the one that I was originally given online. AHS should have more options when you file a claim. It was one of the hotter days and the air just wouldn’t kick in. I could hear something, but no air was coming out of the vents. They determined that it was some type of wiring issue where they needed to reconnect the wire in the AC unit. It was a really good experience.

We've had American Home Shield for a couple of years. I have three different ones. I have one for myself, one for my son’s house and another one for my husband’s daughter’s house. Because we know that if they have a problem, we’d be the one’s footing the bill. My stepdaughter has replaced a washing machine with it, and my son had a water heater go out and they paid part of that. We’ve also used it once here with our icemaker when we first got it, so all three of us have used it.
When my son and daughter-in-law had some noise or something in their plumbing that they were concerned about, they had High Priority Plumbing come and service it. They had used the same plumbing company before when they did the water heater and they were very pleased with them. When they came out this time though, they couldn’t find the problem. They just couldn’t make it do it when they were there, but I know they said they had 60 days. All in all, I’ve been very happy. I just keep debating whether or not I should keep paying it, but I keep paying it because it seems like every time I think about not doing it, something comes up.

This is going to be a long rant regarding poor customer service from American Home Shield (AHS) and Servicemaster. Let me begin by stating I have been a customer of AHS since 2001 and I expect good customer service when I have to use their services. Our air conditioner went out Thursday and I was contacted Friday by the contractor AHS has an agreement with for a/c repair. They were unable to examine our a/c until Monday. When he arrived Monday afternoon he found the compressor was shot and would have to be replaced. That, in retrospect, was not the bad news, but that AHS would have to approve the repair. Now, why hire contractors in Tulsa, if you are going to second-guess their diagnosis in Memphis. Basically, we are in a holding pattern until someone in Memphis realizes that an a/c will not operate without a compressor.
For those of you who know me, you realize my wife has survived 4 heart attacks and does not do well in the heat. So, this morning I started calling AHS in an attempt to speed up the authorization process. After being on hold for an hour I finally spoke with a gentleman who said they were waiting for the Authorization Department to approve it. I told him that I don’t know what the weather is like in Memphis or wherever you are, but it is going to be in the mid-90s in Tulsa. I asked if I could speak to the Authorization Department and he said he could only contact them via email, so I asked for their email address and he refused.
I asked to speak to his supervisor and he said he was working from home and did not have one there. I asked for the phone number for his supervisor and he said he could only contact his supervisor via email and he again refused when I asked for that email. He said he would send an email to his supervisor and I could expect to hear from him/her in 24 to 48 hours.
Now, I worked for two Fortune 500 companies and know if someone files a complaint with the corporate office, things get done. So, I tried calling the Servicmaster Corporate Office and you cannot find anyone there. When you are instructed to press 0 for the corporate operator, the system hangs up on you. So, that is my rant. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining about the local repair company, they have to go by the rules of their contract. However, if you want good customer service and desire to have the ability to talk to someone who has any decision making ability, you might consider other options. Additionally, I have filed complaints with the Mid-South Better Business Bureau and the Oklahoma Insurance Commission.

My AC unit is still awaiting a part (coil) that was ordered on June 3rd according to my account. I have explained that there are health concerns with heat (regarding my son) in my home, and it has fallen on deaf ears. I had a supervisor call me (FINALLY) last week, and she was as helpful as the regular customer rep. The vendor has been more helpful than AHS. I have explained to each customer rep that either they are not being truthful with me or they have very limited access to information. They reached out to me on Facebook (after I entered my story) and asked for my phone number if I still needed help. I did, and I am still here waiting for a call.
My wife and I have literally spent at least 14 hours on the phone with AHS, and each time we have received little to no help. I have heard horror stories but never experienced it until now, and unfortunately, it has gone according to every story that I have read. I may have to consider putting my family in a hotel for two days next week due to the heat, which is awful considering there is a worldwide pandemic going on.

Our oven broke and we called AHS on 4/23/20. They sent someone who said the main board was bad and they would get one ordered. A week later AHS called and said it wasn't available and they would have to have this one repaired (or we could get $300 for our $3000 oven. They company came back after another week and said they had not heard of anyone fixing boards, but they took it and shipped it off.
After a couple weeks I called AHS (waiting for another hour) for an update and they said there was a paperwork mixup. They said it would be 5-7 business days. After two weeks I called again (waiting for an hour) and they assured me it would be ready by 6/10. On 6/16 the company reinstalled it (7 1/2 weeks later) -- it has the wrong color buttons (black buttons on the white oven) and now the stove top doesn't work (which was never a problem) and the oven isn't working right either. I called the technician who said I should call AHS and now I am waiting on hold for 1 hour and 40 minutes so far.

Do not choose this company. I am a real estate agent and have tried to get in contact with someone multiple days past. I have been on hold over 45 min. I tried again another day, and someone answered, placed me on hold and another 40 min until I finally hung up! They will give you the run around and I highly will not recommend as a professional in this industry!! Very unprofessional!

Service call on June 3rd, said bad coil, added Freon. When turned on again nothing working. Second guy they sent said since other company added Freon can’t touch. Promised me new unit and parts would be in today and obviously they are not. I have an elderly mother and children and going to be 90+ here, this is not right at all. I have called numerous times, asked for management. After waiting on hold and talking for hours, still haven’t talked to a manager. I have a warranty for a reason, not to wait 2 weeks for air conditioning. I want an answer now, how you are going to resolve this? My family's health is in jeopardy!!!!

To submit claims, sometimes my wife goes online and sometimes I make a phone call. We can’t choose what contractor we want to use, but we’re well pleased outside of the fact that if they send a contractor the first time and he doesn’t do it correctly, then we want another person to come out. We then have to re-call them instead of just dealing with the contractor themselves. One time, we had a claim on the internal working parts of the toilet, which were all rusted and in bad shape. We called about it because they weren’t working properly. Plumb Genius came out and installed the internal parts, but we had to call them out three times.
Finally, on the third time, they got one of them working correctly. They had to come and replace some more parts for the other one and then finally they got it fixed as well. The quality of work was mediocre because even the last time they changed out a handle and they changed out the flushing arm and it wasn’t the same as it was before. My wife doesn’t like the way it flushes, but it works. Still, we were frustrated with them on the toilets and we told American Home Shield we didn’t want them to send that contractor back out. When we first got here, they sent out a different contractor and this guy was great. However, when we had a leaking Whirlpool washer, they sent Plumb Genius out again to fix it.

The AHS rep was very professional when I called in my claim. They sent me something through the phone and said the contractor would call me whenever they were available. The contractor saw that our line had come loose. They put a zip tie on it and it worked for a day or two then it just stopped again. Considering the times that we’re in and that it’s summertime, I would like them to get back with me sooner. They took my unit apart but have not gotten back to me to let me know when they were gonna assemble it back or when the part was ordered. I have no clue and I’m just in limbo. I also wish there was better communication. If I don’t hear from them in another day or two, then I’m gonna give them a callback.

My claim was handled excellently. The man called, gave me some notices of when he’d be here, and showed up right about that time. He looked at the problem and said the unit was gonna have to be replaced. It was an old unit And Replaced it with a new one. He showed me how it worked and he was gone just that quick. I Also had one other claim with our washing machine and it was the same great experience. The contractor called to let me know that he got assigned the claim and that he would be here the next day. He came the next day, saw the problem and fixed it.

The chain broke in the toilet. Someone came out and they replaced the chain and stopped it from running water. They told me that if it happens again, I can give them a call and they'll come right back and fix it. But I've had no issue since. Everything was fine. They took care of everything I needed. The guy knew what was going on. He was very polite. We stayed six feet apart. He had a mask on and I had a mask on. I'm in home all the time as well. So it's nice to see someone professional. Overall, AHS has great service. I submit my claims online and then I reach out, and they get me the next available contractor. I recommend it to a few people as well.

NOVA-HVAC came out and it went well because it was a simple fix. I explained to the technician what was going on. The issue was just a water leak in front of the air conditioning unit so he just had to put new tubing. He did it in about 25 minutes. It didn't take long at all. We've had American Home Shield for two years and used them three times and they were excellent. So keep doing what you're doing, American Home Shield.

I saw an AHS commercial and then I checked them out and I was like, “Hey!” And what made me get them is because I have another property. I had properties and one of the ladies was complaining about something and another lady complaining about this. And I was like, “You know how I can fix this and I not have to really worry about it.” I got Home Shield, put them on there, let them call, set it up, I pay the 100 bucks and then the guy comes out, fixes it or replaces. I told the guys in my office about it and how they work, so they decided to have it in their houses.
When I called AHS for the one issue that I’ve had so far, they sent somebody out. I call them, gave the person the information. They called me, we set up a time that was good for me. The tech from All Hours was awesome. He came out and he went right in. He plucked the wood chips out of the garbage disposal and it worked fine.

Our garbage disposal was leaking. We submitted a claim with AHS and it was an easy process. They assigned JQ Air & Electric to us and they got that fixed the next day. Other than that, there is a problem in the claims process if the contractor comes out and submits a thing saying this is what needs to be fixed, then sometimes the contract doesn’t cover it. It would be better if AHS could make it a 100% coverage on everything.

This is the second time we've had problems with our air conditioner and AHS always gotten somebody out right away. The same technician came both times and he was marvelous. He listens and explains things to where I can understand what he's saying. He also wore his mask. I was very impressed. I like that AHS is very prompt. Home Shield did a good job on one of my rental properties so that's when I said I would try Home Shield on all of them. In a month and a half, I've used them seven times for different houses. And then, I got one tenant who every little thing is a problem. It probably cost about 20 bucks, but I paid 75 and be done with it, for the labor, where they came out and said the unit was not flushing all the way. And then the next-door neighbor saw her using them and she said they were so good. Home Shield is doing a great job. My son owns a couple of houses now and he's using Home Shield. There was an issue with the water coming out and they said they fixed it, but they really didn’t. I can live with making my own ice and stuff though. I’ve had a warranty in every house I’ve ever had. The contractor didn't do anything other than say he thought the issue was a wiring problem and that he didn't think American Home Shield covered the wiring. So nothing was fixed. But it's not on American Home Shield. It's on their provider. I don't know how much they know about what is covered and what is not covered under American Home Shield. I would have thought that everything is covered because when I paid for the additional pool coverage, it was the pool, the heater and anything to do with the filter and the pump. So I would think the wiring would be covered.
The week before he came out, I had also called because the heater wasn't turning on. He told me to go to the panel and do all these things. I was like, "Well, that's why I put in a – call because I want someone to check it for me." After I hung up with him, I went back out, took the panel door off, checked everything and was able to turn the spa on from the unit itself. So I called and canceled the first service call.
Then I was away the weekend. When I came home Sunday and went to turn the spa on, the same thing happened. I thought it was ridiculous. The spa has selective memory. The heater should go on immediately. So that's when I called The Pool Guyz the second time, after which he did come out within 24 hours. He was real nice too. The heater did go on after a few tries as well. But he said it was not my heater and that was why sometimes it went on and sometimes it didn't. He thought the issue didn't have anything to do with the heater, that it was a wiring problem and that the heater was fine. But that turned out not being the case. I had to call my pool company guy back in again. But I do have the heater working now. I have to go out to the box panel, open up the door and hit it a few times where the vents are and it goes on. I'm not sure that that's the way it should be working but as long as it goes on when I need it.

The AC unit for the upstairs of my house went out. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and they sent Absolute Comfort out. The AC works now. But the company had to come out and diagnose what was wrong then American Home Shield had to order the parts and send it to Absolute Comfort. Then they had to come back out. So it took about a week and the upstairs of the house didn't have air conditioning for that period. If there was some way American Home Shield could shorten that, at least for air conditioning, that would be nice. But that's the only thing. I totally understand that that's kinda what they have to do.

American Home Shield was part of my purchase agreement where the seller would pay for it for a year. I called them for a claim and they set things up. They made the appointment and I had to get online to get my appointment. That part was kind of confusing because they kept saying somebody would call me back, but nobody did. It turned out that they had my wrong phone number that's why they didn't call me. I don't know what number they even had because I've had the same phone number for 15 years. But the place that did the service, Ice Cube Air, took care of all the insurance stuff. It was easy as it could possibly be. It was great.
Also, the contractors were good. I just wish that they could have come sooner because it's summer in Las Vegas and that really sucked. They didn't have any appointment times until like four or five days later, which I can't really blame them. It is COVID time so the whole world is messed up right now. Besides that, they were really friendly and awesome.
But American Home Shield does not cover the garage in the warranty and I wish they would. My garage door has not worked since day one. I've been here since February and I haven't gotten around to it. With not having work right now, it's kind of hard to pay for somebody to come out and do your garage. As soon as work starts up again, that'll be good.

Everything went wonderful. There wasn’t anything that was emergency. I could do without the garbage disposal for a couple of days. So, it worked out. We had a sink in the bathroom wherein the pipes below it were dripping and we couldn’t cut off the sink. For one, it was old and we were afraid it was going to break by turning it too much. And then, it couldn’t be turned to shut it off. That had to be replaced. And my garbage disposal stopped at that time so that had to be replaced. Home Shield sent someone out in a matter of a few days. The CNJ tech did everything he should have done. It’s very important to have a home warranty. I’m getting on with age so it’s even better and more important to me. My husband used to be able to fix a lot of things, but he’s gone now, as of a couple years ago so I need all the help I can get. With that, Home Shield would help me if something does go wrong.

We then thought that we should get one just in case we needed it and so far, we’ve been happy with American Home Shield. That's why we’ve kept it. One time, a tech from Repair Solutions came and he was great. He knew instantly what was wrong with the unit and he told me what it was. We had the same issue with the washer and dryer that American Home Shield had a different service company come out a couple years before. The tech from Repair Solutions told me what wasn’t put back together right by the previous person that repaired the unit and he showed us. He walked us through everything. He was also polite and clean. I was home alone with my kids. All-around, I would give him a 10. He was really nice.

Recently we had a plumbing issue. AHS sent Heros Plumbing Service out. That particular instance was seamless and it was good. The tech was great. He was efficient and they were professional. But the prior one with the air conditioning last year was horrid. I felt like the contactor that they were using was dancing around our problem and not wanting to replace the unit. We had gone through that years ago with having to replace the air conditioning, so I knew a little bit about what was needed. But, it was clear that they kept sending the same contractor out over and over, and he was doing very little other than consuming our time. We were without air conditioning for a long time, it fell on deaf ears with American Home Shield.
I kept questioning, "Why are you using this company? Why are we having to endure such pain going through this?" It sucked up a whole lot of our time. This tech came out and he was bad-mouthing the company saying the company didn't wanna spend any money. On the very next day, he was out here, he even said he was leaving the company going to another company because they wouldn’t give him any help to the point where he had to lift a pretty heavy piece of equipment up into the attic from my husband's walk-in closet, and he didn't have any help. He was like, "I don't know how am I gonna do this." He was struggling.
AHS didn't seem to even care. Any time I got somebody on the phone, they didn't wanna talk to me. I got hung up on numerous times. They had a call center that was in a whole another country and I couldn't understand what they were saying. They would read out a script. Every time I would say, "I don't understand what you're talking about. Can you please get somebody I can understand?" He would hang up on me. I would not get anywhere. So, I would try to dial in their new sale just to get attention because I figured, they'd answer the phone if they think if it's a new sale, opposed to somebody who has an issue with an existing call order. I would go that route and only to be hung up on.
I finally found one person to answer my questions. She was like, "Okay. It’s tough, 30 days was the last time they were out there.” Then, we had to pay another amount of $75 to try to get it looked at. They were making me feel like I was thought as being crazy because we were still having an issue. I was like, I know if it's cooling the house or not. I did a different tech. But I was going in circles. My first two were very responsive.
Then all of a sudden, when it came down to installing a new unit, the technician wasn’t answering the phone. He would text me part of that but then his voicemail was full, and he wouldn’t text me back. Then I was calling AHS and trying to get help there. I finally found an advocate that helped me and got a hold of him directly. Then, he was responsive. He said, "That’s gonna happen tomorrow,” but I kept feeling I had been brushed off ‘cause he said the job was gonna be like a good half a day, which ended up taking a whole day, ‘cause he’s a one-man-band as he claimed. It was just so ridiculous.
I thought AHS was so good. AHS took such good care of us for the past years. Then to find that like second-guessing, “What the heck did I do?” Clearly, it was a wrong choice. But the only one thing that I liked about this girl calling was that I felt like the call center was not offshore or somewhere where I at least could understand better, the people I was talking to. I would tell others to shop around and know what they're getting into.

But it was pretty easy once it was scheduled. The contractor came out and he was really friendly. He was a young kid and local to the area. Everything has been working properly since then. I'd like to have more communication from AHS. When my policy renewed, they increased my premium. It was on auto-pay, so I didn’t even notice it until the claim. It would have been nice to have more communication about the fee increase. I don’t know that I’m in love with AHS. Once my policy is up, I’m probably gonna move on.

When the part came in, they came back out and put it in. It was all good and as of right now, the icemaker has been functioning very well. We've had American Home Shield before when we first moved in. It was offered 20 plus years ago and we like having that option to call people out. We normally do a lot of home improvement stuff ourselves, but it's nice to have an expert come out, especially with the big stuff like the heating and air. When my kids’ bedrooms weren't getting cold from the air conditioner, I didn't know if there were any leaks in the system or if we had enough Freon in there. My husband hoses out the unit and cleans it out, but to work on it, he doesn't have stuff for that. We had a guy from Air Technology come out and he was friendly, knowledgeable, and on time. He determined that there wasn't anything needed. He said the ductwork looked good, and I just had to replace the filter in my hallway vent, which was on my to-do list. I replaced it. Also, we have dual-pane windows and the one in my daughter's bedroom had a crack in it, so I had that replaced too.

I called in an order and American Home Shield set me up with Kingwood. But I didn't know anything about them and I didn’t want anybody to come in my house that I didn’t know. I went ahead and called American Home Shield back then I called Arrings. They told me that they had changed the name to Air Majesty but they were all still in the program. The guys are just a special group. I liked them a lot because the guy that comes out here has been out here before. He knows the property and the appliances. He's such a great guy and he does a great job. I feel really comfortable with him when he comes out. They went ahead and looked at the compressor and it wasn’t turning on. The tech fixed that. He wasn’t here any more than half an hour at the most.
I haven’t had too many people come to the house through American Home Shield that I've had a problem with. Last time I had a crazy problem with a gas stove. It didn’t wanna act right and I got freaked out about it because I didn’t want the house to blow up. American Home Shield sent a company out here, which I did not like. But the guy was honest with me. He told me he didn't know anything about gas stoves. I told him he needed to get on his company and to call them. We needed to figure this one out because I didn't want them working on this stove if he didn't know what he doing. He was not blowing my house up because he didn't know. We called and somebody else was sent out. It was a man and a woman. They were a working team together and they were perfect. They fixed the gas stove and it worked.
I was with American Home Shield when we had a house over in Tradewinds. When we moved over here, I picked it up again. It’s been a good almost 20 years that I’ve had the warranty. They've been so kind to me every time I call because I'm always in a panic. They tell me not to worry and that everything is gonna be okay. I would never change companies because that’s how much I really like them. They get a lot of people that call you on the phone and they send you mail and all that kind of good stuff. There’s a Huffman Talk down here. Every once in a while I get on it and they’re always looking for people to come to the house to fix this or fix that. I always tell them, “Call American Home Shield. That’s who you call.” It’s a great company and they've all done a great job.

We put in a request with Home Shield online because I couldn't get any water out of our waterline. The site was user-friendly. It got me to where I needed to be. The only thing was it said it was a refrigerator and they asked for the brand but it didn't ask for any detail on what the problem was. Cooper came out and took a look at it. The tech said he needed a part so they ordered it. They came back 10 days later and installed the part. If I had been able to put it on the online claim and saying that the waterline was not providing any water, they might not have had to order a part and could've finished up the job that day.
But one time, I was having problems with my furnace and they automatically assigned a contractor. And when I went online to take a look at the contractor's reputation, it stunk. I then went back to American Home Shield and tried to get a different contractor that I know was part of the plan and they said I couldn't do that. That was almost when I was going to go to a different company. I know that Home Shield has to give business to a lot of different people, but if their reputation is not good, I don't wanna have anything to do with them and that's what happened. I went out and hired the company that I think is good, had them come out, and do a test on the equipment and paid for it myself. Other than that, the contractors that I have worked with have been pretty good. I've used Home Shield for years and my experience has been positive.

Flash Garage was great, they were on-time, they got the job done really quickly, and everything's working great. The issue was something about a control panel inside of the actual piece that's attached to the garage door in the garage. The coverage I've received with American Home Shield has been good. It's been pretty seamless so far.

We had a claim with American Home Shield for an AC issue. We had an idiot come out and he did something that I’ve seen other idiots do. He poked around outside, didn’t know how to fix it, and decided that the problem was a leak upstairs in the attic. Nobody needed to be in the attic. As it turns out, that was just a waste of time. He forced us to continue the claim. We had to pay $700 to replace the Freon in the system because he said there was a leak. There may have been a leak, but it wasn’t a very big leak and it managed to last for at least 15 years. Maybe it was low and needed to be replaced. Part of the problem was that the air conditioning system that we have is older and it still uses Freon. So, they wanted about $8,000 to put in a whole new air conditioning system and that’s only half of the system. We have two units. But that didn’t fix the problem.
Another guy came out from the same company, and that was at no charge to us, and they figured out that the compressor was blown. This gentleman was a little smarter, and a little older, a little wiser. He noticed that there was a unit on the air conditioning that kinda jumpstarts the compressor, and that was like a last-ditch effort to keep the old compressor going. When they put that on, they warned me that it was gonna go and the compressor was gonna have to be replaced. American Home Shield replaced the compressor, and they put it back together. They didn’t secure the fan motor correctly. They used the bolts which were already worn because it had been serviced too many times. So, the fan came lose and the blades got stuck and it ruined the fan motor. Now, the fan motor had to be replaced. The fan motor was a lot less expensive and it wasn’t really that big of a deal, and they came out and they replaced the fan motor.
It took two tries to get the compressor fixed because they brought the wrong compressor out the first time. American Home Shield bought the wrong compressor. That mistake was at no cost to us. It just costs time. We switched companies after the air conditioning blew and the fan motor was the only thing that was left, which was all because it came loose. The second company fixed the fan motor and they got it secured correctly. We had to pay the fee again. We decided that it was better to switch to a different company or we are never gonna get our air conditioning fixed.
In the end, we paid $700 for the Freon, and then we paid two fees for American Home Shield. Before things were finalized, American Home Shield had offered to help pay for the new air conditioning system if we chose to get a new air conditioning system, and their contribution to the $8,000 would be 1,500. When I bought American Home Shield, I was told there were no such limitations. As a matter of fact, the whole reason I bought American Home Shield was so that I could get the air conditioning system replaced because I knew it was gonna go bad. And I kinda wondered how American Home Shield could make any money if they’re replacing things like that. But that’s the deal. I still have American Home Shield because I still have two dying air conditioning systems.
Now, I know that it’s only $3,000 for these two different air conditioning systems. But a little bit of honestly would go a long way. Before people buy American Home Shield, they need to know that if they think the air conditioning system is gonna get replaced, it’s not so much. $1,500 out of 8,000 is like a joke. Another thing is that they get involved a little bit too much in the details of trying to solve the problem. If they had some real expertise, they could avoid a lot of mistakes and save a lot of money.
First of all, they don’t really know when to quit with the maintenance and when to switch gears and just go buy a new one. They did try that with me, and I refused because I shaved a whole lot of money. I spent maybe $900 total as opposed to 8,000. I’ve had so many components over the years changed out on those air conditioners that I wouldn’t be surprised if I get 10 more years out of the old one. I’m caught in an air conditioning trap. Fortunately, this was kind of pre-season and the summer hasn’t really rolled in, but it took about two and a half months to get the air conditioning going. In the heat of the summer, that would’ve really been a problem.

The condensation line in the air conditioning unit was backed up causing a flood which was an emergency situation. I called AHS several times that day to request someone come over to fix the problem. I called and called and called. Each time I called I was put on hold listening to a recording saying that because of the COVID-19 situation, they were backed up. I waited on the phone for several hours each time I called. Since this was an emergency, I needed to get this fixed at once but calling all day to the AHS yielded no answer and there was no e-mail that they had either to contact them. I finally had an outside source fix the problem.
After more than a week of trying to get AHS on the phone, I finally got someone and requested that I be reimbursed for my outlay of money to the party who fixed the problem. I was told that he had no authority to do so and quoted some paragraph from their contract stating so. None of this makes logical or business sense. I pay them monthly and when I needed them to come, no one picked up the phone for over a week. There is no point in having a home contract when you cannot get in touch with them when you need them. AHS came highly recommended and this situation shows that they have no sense of obligation to their customers.

This was one of the worst customer services I have experienced. They messed up multiple times with their organization and didn't do much to improve it. One time, I had to wait 3-4 months for something to be fixed and when I asked why the long wait, there were multiple reasons. They kept on sending the wrong people who didn't have full knowledge and kept on making excuses for the appliances.
Recently, my plumbing system was damaged and they fixed it but they refused to fix the damage the leak did to my ceiling, saying it came in secondary damage which wasn't covered. I was trying to call them all week to speak about the leak but everyday of the week, I would be on hold for 2 hrs and the phone would eventually get cut and they wouldn't even call me back. I spoke to them about this situation but they did nothing to help me besides saying that they will try to make sure it doesn't happen again. Even after wasting all my time, they didn't do anything about the ceiling. Horrible service and management, will be looking to discontinue with them. Would not recommend.

In my experience so far with American Home Shield, there has not been a single phone call where I had to wait less than 45 minutes to speak with a customer service representative. I called AHS two weeks back because my clothes washer was not working. I was told on June 8th that the part has been ordered. Yesterday, I called the parts department and waited on the phone for 1 hour and 45 minutes but nobody answered the phone.
This morning I called the parts department to check if the part has arrived, I waited for 45 minutes before somebody disconnected the call. I called again and I am currently on hold listening to their music and it has already been 2 hours and 20 minutes and nobody has answered the phone so far. I have another phone on which I am on hold for their main customer service number and I have been on hold for already 40 minutes on that phone and no answer. My ears are hurting listening to two different musics on speak phone. If the customer cannot reach them how are they to resolve the issue. I will seriously be reconsidering my decision to continue with this warranty if their customer service hold times do not improve. The management needs to look at ways to resolve this. To expect a customer to wait for two and half hours to speak with a customer service representative is totally unacceptable.

AHS sent Durham Contractors to my home May 21, 2020 and their technicians flooded my home. Not only is AHS not liable, but they have not sent anyone to complete the repairs to date. I have called daily, remaining on hold upward of an hour just to get someone on the line. Once an agent is on the line I keep being told that they are awaiting a report from Durham Contractors whose negligent technicians flooded my home. Today is June 16, 2020, the service date was May 21, 2020. AHS agents keep telling me that they are leaving messages for Durham Contractors but not receiving a response. These are the contractors that they are sending to the homes of consumers?
To date, I still have two toilets in my home that are inoperable. To be clear, they were fully operational prior to Durham Contractors being dispatched to my home by AHS. They are not using skilled technicians, they are using the cheapest laborers they can find and they are sending them into our homes. We pay AHS monthly and in addition pay a service fee for each service call and there is zero accountability on AHS if things go awry. DO NOT SEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS HOME WARRANTY COMPANY! I have literally been on hold waiting for an agent for an hour and thirty six minutes right now. Service is horrible and you can't speak to an agent in the United States. A class action lawsuit needs to be filed against them.

Updated on 08/04/2020: On June 16, a representative from the company emailed that they would provide a refund on my claim for plumbing service that I paid for in addition to my $75 fee for service. I have followed up two times about my refund for the plumber, but as of 8/4/20, I have not heard anything or received payment. I would appreciate it if someone from American Home Shield will contact me about if - and when - I will receive my refund. Hopefully, since they did reach out to me with this offer, they will follow through on this promise.
Original Review: We recently purchased a house in May 2020 and requested a warranty. Everything I read online convinced me AHS was the best company to go with so I requested them. However, after 2 warranty claims, I wanted to let everyone know my experience with AHS. Our oven didn't work and after hours of trying to get in touch with them, when the service provider was supposed to come 2 weeks later, they said they never received the order from AHS. After more hours spent on the phone AHS said they would provide someone to fix our oven 2 weeks later (one month from when the request for service was made). Since we are cooking all of our meals at home due to the virus, we couldn't wait that long so finally we purchased a new oven and cancelled the request.
Second claim was for a plumber because our kitchen and bathroom sinks were stopped up and we couldn't use either one. A service request was made and a plumber couldn't come out for 2 weeks. Finally after numerous phone calls with different people and a post on Facebook, we were told that we could get a local plumber but they had to call for authorization first. While this was not an unreasonable request, the plumber had to come out, diagnose the problem, provide an estimate and call to get an authorization number before fixing it.
They spent numerous hours trying to call and get an authorization number to no avail. Once again we had to pay to get it fixed after waiting close to 4 weeks. I'm thinking that this is how AHS dodges their responsibility to uphold their contracts with consumers. We have requested our service fee be refunded and are waiting for it. We have also requested that our contract be cancelled and funds returned for our warranty due to non-service on AHS's part.
We do apologize for the inconvenience, and would love to speak with you in terms of a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

Updated on 10/14/2020: Hi, AHS is the worst home insurance company ever. I have a plumbing issue for past 6 months and they still cannot resolve it. Every other month they keep on changing the vendor and they hang up when I call them for follow up. Last Friday, I called their agent and he assured me that it will be fixed within 2 days. When I called them to follow up after 3 days, another agent told me to hold and after a wait of 45 mins, they disconnected the call. Imagine...45 mins wait!! Who does that?? This shows they don't care for their customers....Worst customer service ever!! Stay away....I am planning to go to some other insurance company....
Original Review: Never go to AHS for plumbing services. Our toilet got blocked and when we requested a service, they kept on closing our request. I called them at least 7-8 times and each time my call was on hold for almost an hour. The customer service rep used to promise me that they will ask a vendor to call me back but that never happened. Instead, my request was closed.. I regret paying them monthly... Would never recommend anyone.. Stay away from their plumbing services...

National Platinum Services came out for a washer and dryer issue and it's been good so far. The technician was great. The lid needed to be adjusted because it wouldn't hit the switch properly. If you turned the unit on and walked off, it wouldn't go through its cycles. We were either having to go to the laundromat or we couldn't do our clothes at home. I filed the claim with American Home Shield online and the website was pretty good. It was very user-friendly. I was given the expectation of 48 hours from the time I put in the claim for them to get in touch and then set a date with me. It was kind of like doing cable. It was kind of a date window.
I'm not always sure that having the warranty is the most economical route, having to pay $75 every time plus the monthly or yearly subscription. But in case of something major or a catastrophic breakdown, the warranty is almost worth it just for the peace of mind. Plus American Home Shield has always been pretty easy to deal with, although I don't like fine print – not with a mortgage company and not with an insurance company. Unfortunately, that's part of business and I get it. Other than that, American Home Shield has been pretty good to us.

It wasn’t, and when they came back they said it was a new leak and I had to submit a new work order and pay another $100. Long story short, it has been a month and it’s still not fixed. I tried to cancel my account, but after a 20 minute hold they hung up on me. I tried to cancel over FB messenger, at which time I was assured they would take care of the problem. Then, the work order was canceled for the second time, saying the work order was completed and I’m getting no response on messenger. Maybe they’re going bankrupt. Hard to tell, but I’m out $300 and nothing is fixed. I’m reporting this to the BBB. Don’t waste your money!

I pay AHS $70 a month and I pay 106 every time I call them, and I get the bare-bums minimum service. The last guy they sent out, Keith, was the fifth guy who came out. He figured out what was wrong with the downstairs unit and the first four guys couldn’t. I was told that the upstairs unit needed a valve. There was a leak and a leak test was done. But I wasn't told how much R22 was missing. The contractor decided it needed a valve and a new compressor. Then he called me and to say that he was gonna order the compressor only after I pay him $1,100 because that was how much Freon the unit needed. It needed about 11 pounds. I asked how he determined that. He said that he was going high and if it needed less, he'd pay me money back when he left. The downstairs was repaired, but I'm waiting for another person to come tomorrow to put in the compressor and the R22 for the upstairs and hope that it works.
It takes at least 40 minutes for someone to answer the phone and if they do, all they do is read notes that are in their notepad. They always say that you can go on the website and put your claim in but you can't do it. It doesn’t have the prompts there. When I called AHS on the phone, I waited on the phone for 40 minutes and got cut off. I got on the phone again for another 40 minutes and got someone on the phone. She took my claim and after that Comfort Pros said that AHS was gonna put in a new unit upstairs. Then I got a call three days later from the approval department at AHS. They said that they were just gonna do a compressor. I said that I thought the guy came out yesterday to measure up to put in a new system because he couldn’t get it working. I was told that that was denied. I also have a plumbing issue right now that's taking a week and a half to get a $6 faucet for.

There is an emergency number but I was not able to connect with anyone. It went to a recorded line so, I passed that up. I hung up because I was in a frantic situation. According to the website, I was assigned a particular contractor but it was up to me to contact the contractor to set up a time to come out. I did so and by contacting them directly, it was very efficient.
The technician came and repaired the main breaker. The problem was it was loose and they adjusted the wiring. They made note that if it continued to be problematic, they had the part information that they needed to replace it. But it didn’t need to be replaced. They repaired the issue. The contractor was excellent and the electrician who came out to make the service call was extremely professional and thorough. He knew exactly what to look for. The air conditioner wouldn’t work. We called American Home Shield and they called Scheid Plumbing, Heating & Cooling. They came in, cleaned the AC, and replaced the fan motor. They worked on the AC some time and they left. But the next day, it still wouldn’t work. It was a Freon issue. By the time they were all done, it costed us 500 bucks out of pocket ‘cause they charged us for something that AHS didn't cover and they cleaned another unit that had nothing to do with AHS, which was 160 bucks.
But the next day, it still didn't work. It lasted for about a day and then it stopped cooling. We called Scheid back. They looked it over and they said we had something parts wrong and they were gonna order them. We had to leave for a vacation and so we said, “We’ll be back in 10 days.” That’s tonight, and we don’t know what they're gonna do next. This issue has been going on for a couple weeks now. When I called AHS, the automated machine told me that I would be getting a call to schedule up with a contractor. Before we could conclude the phone call, I got a text message saying that they had to find a contractor. But I told them that the little automated system said that a live person would be contacting me to set up the appointment. Also, I prefer Southern Comfort. They’ve been coming out here for years and I’d rather keep the rapport with one company. So, immediately after that call, I called AHS back to speak to an individual. The guy said that he had to cancel that order, which was the $75 charge, and I understood that. Then, he said that he would submit another one because I requested a special contract, and I was okay with that.
But last week, I got a bill in the mail from American Home Shield for $75. I had to go back and look at my account because I was under the assumption that since the payment for the first claim was not processed, the second one would. Or even if the first one was processed, they would just change the name of the contractor. Then, I got an email from American Home Shield saying that my account is delinquent and that I need to pay immediately, so I won’t have a lapse in coverage. So, I’ve got to call them this morning because they have taken out the payment just like they did for the first one. The bill that I got from AHS also stated that it was old because the contractors came a week ago. But that is not my fault. How would I know that?

The American Home Shield website was easy to use. I just went online and filled out the request to have the plumbing fixed. Discount Contractors said they would either come the next day between X and Y throughout the day. Then they followed up with a confirmation and a more narrow window to let me know that they’d be there that afternoon. They were professional and efficient. The plumber fixed the leak from under the kitchen sink.
Everything in the kitchen sink is fine. However, the HVAC is still not fixed. AHS sent one HVAC contractor, and then when I submitted another request for them to come back, they assigned it to a different contractor. The first contractor was efficient. The second contractor is the one I had trouble with and I didn’t know AHS was gonna assign somebody different. When AHS sent them out, the tech was like, “We can’t do it.” I’ve called American Home Shield back, they called the contracting company. They set up another date, June 2nd, but didn’t show up. I called AHS again today. They said they had to wait four hours before they could reassign it to somebody else.
I've submitted another ticket in the system. I have had no air conditioning since the 7th of May when I sent the request and that’s well over a month. If AHS were to send me another contractor, I’d rather it be the same first company ‘cause they were already familiar with my HVAC. They probably would’ve already come back and fixed it.

The contractor who came out for the dishwasher and the oven was very professional. He had a mask when he came in. He also had things on his shoes and gloves. He was fully prepared, very quick and thorough. The first time he came in, he was able to completely do the dishwasher. The second time, he had the oven working before he left, but I happened to call him before he left the driveway because when I tried to turn it on, it didn’t turn on. He immediately came back in, reassessed, and ordered another part. When he came back out to put that part on, it worked.
We’ve had some contractors that didn’t seem to be as willing to get the job done as others, but that has been few compared to the total time we’ve been with AHS. I had to get used to what was covered. This was the second time the dishwasher leaked and we got it replaced. The first time, it caused damage to our floor in the kitchen and AHS paid us $1,000 for that. We were able to take that money and get the flooring redone. But when I talked to the rep this last time, she told me it wasn’t covered in our contract. But I haven’t changed my contract at all.

My water heater went and my neighbor kept telling me I should get AHS. And I've been a member since November. Home Shield's claim process is super easy and simple. An issue on my AC happened and it was the first time I had a claim with them. Originally, we paid the deductible and when I had to resubmit the claim because my air had stopped working, it was just as easy. There was no mistake in asking for the payment. It just said someone will be out. Then someone came out again immediately so it was fine.
My issue is still going on though and I'm gonna have to resubmit the claim. When the tech came back, he couldn't see anything wrong. So, I had to deal with it myself to see some causes for why it was not cooling. When I did that, he mentioned ice on the system. So, when I noticed that it wasn't cooling, I took a picture of it and I showed that it was 75 instead of 73. Then I went and looked at my system and there was ice on my unit, so I took a picture. All in all, AHS has been great. The tech came in and looked at everything. I understand it is a process and he is following the steps.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

The communication was fine. AHS let me know that my claim had been received and told me the date. Then I got a text message letting me know the actual time and who was coming. The tech was nice and courteous. Some type of sensor that was in the back of my dryer had burned out and he explained everything to me as he was fixing it. He also told me the maintenance and how to keep it clean in the back of it. It was a great experience with him. I’ve already recommended AHS to 4 people and 3 have already joined.

My plumbing claim with American Home Shield went perfectly. AM PM Plumbing came out and their guy was very professional and quick. He was courteous too and he knew what needed to be done. I just love them. They had to snake behind the wall to open up a clog and the repair was very quick. The repair took within 10 to 15 minutes. They also stayed in communication through email and phone calls.
American Home Shield has been very good. They are quick to respond and they take care of issues. I've been with them for probably 15 to 20 years and there's no reason to shop around for another company. Why fix what’s not broken? Submitting a claim is easy and I typically call them to do that. Customer service is very good too. I have a current claim that is still in process on my AC unit. The only challenge I’ve had in response has been on the current claim, but everything else has been good.

Although the person wasn't sociable or friendly, they got the job done and that was what I called them for.

I enjoy having American Home Shield so far. I have been seeing advertisements on TV and emails about the service and I thought to give it a try because it may help me around the house with some things I need. When I did a claim on May 25th and paid a service fee, A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out on the 29th and did service on that day. The guy put freon in the unit, but recently, it started back getting hotter in there and the unit outside was making a funny noise. I did a second claim and when he came out on Friday, June the 12th, he said it was the fan that was burnt out. He replaced that as well as some of the parts on the compressor, and it helped a lot. He’s a good guy and I like him. It's still cooling off in my house too.

The A Wisdom Electric contractor was very professional and everything went well. Behind one of the outlets, a wire that was burnt. It took him a while to fix it because it was very complicated. There were many different tests that he had to do. I was satisfied with the overall procedure. However, I've had problems with Active Appliance. Our dishwasher and our refrigerator broke. Both of them were “fixed” only that it was done wrong. For the dishwasher, I had to wait so long for them to come back in. And during the pandemic, I didn’t have a dishwasher. They kept saying, “This is wrong.” But the technician that kept coming again was not good.
Finally, they sent someone else who fixed the issue right away. Instead of ordering new parts and everything else that the other guy said, it was done very well. I talked to them and said that if I supposedly fixed it and it was not working right away, I would send someone in right away to fix it. The person that answered the phone was extremely rude and said, “This is what it is. What do you want me to do? Do you want a schedule or not?”
With the refrigerator, the repair was not done right. It was leaking and it took about two months for the ice to buildup on the fan. The refrigerator was making a very weird noise. I ended up paying another $75 for something that should have been fixed. Someone else came and said that the tube was not put in the right way, so it was leaking. The refrigerator is giving me so much trouble and I am down for having it replaced. I'm even willing to pay part of it because it's crazy how many times it breaks, but AHS doesn’t want. I'm even thinking about canceling and going with another company.

I have to call them, and it’ll take about 30 minutes on hold in order to get through because their system online is not very accurate. Other than that, when there was a leak on our main waterline that goes into the water heater, they had Draingo of Florida come out quick. The guy was on time and he fixed the problem. When my washer had an E1 error and needed a new control board, Donaway came out and did a great job. Submitting claims online is much simpler. You don't have to go through all the same jargon. When you put a service request in, you get the contractor's name and contact information within 30 seconds. If the issue is very urgent, you can pick the phone up and call the contractor. Most of the vendors will look it up if they haven't read it all already. If they have a note, meaning they're scheduled that day, they'll send someone right out to look at the issue.

ClearWater Management came out when we were having a problem with our filtration system. They were able to fix it as soon as they were here. It turns out it was a quick fix. They were very pleasant. Once or twice AHS didn't send out very quickly or the people they sent out to us were not really qualified. We had somebody install hot water tanks once twice in a row because they kept sending the same person out. The hot water tanks caught fire so they finally sent somebody else out and he fixed the problem right away.
If they can make it a little bit easier to get ahold of the contractors and set up the time that they’re going to be out, it would be nice. The last contractor cancelled on us the last minute and I’m still waiting to get my refrigerator fixed. If they set you up with somebody, if you call them and say, “Well, that person can’t come and I need somebody right away,” they put up a little bit of a fight about it and you have to argue with them to get the name of somebody new. Unfortunately, that has not happened very often in the nine years we’ve been doing it. You expect it to be small companies, but Sears is the one who is kinda jerking us around right now.
The nice thing is that you can call and, if things are tight, it’s not that expensive per month, and they come in and it’s $75 for them to come in. If I have Sears come in, they’ll do multiple appliances. They’ll do as many things as I want within their realm in one call. It’s not each item is not a separate call and not a separate $75. We had the refrigerator and the washer go off at the same time, it was all in one call. They could come and do it. And it has been great because it could get really expensive if you have to pay out of pocket on something you hadn’t planned.
We’ve had American Home Shield for nine years now. When we bought the house, it was part of the deal. They paid for the first year and we’ve just kept it. The house is a much older house and the appliances were older. The pool equipment was older and so it was nice to have that guarantee. AHS has been pretty good. We’ve been happy with it. If somebody would ask me whether to do it or not, I would tell them yes.

I have been hung up on the phone after waiting over 45 minutes for someone to answer. I have been promised a manager or specialist and they have not reached out ever! I am only asking that they follow through with the service they are supposed to provide. The phone number for customer service is impossible. I feel beyond disappointed that the first time I need to use the service I've paid over a year for, refuses to help.
This time frame for completion of service is ridiculous. Be careful because getting anything accomplished with this company is impossible. I'm ready to file a claim with Better Business Bureau if they do not resolve this issue. I have recorded conversations with an associate as well as repairmen's receipts documenting that they cannot service the oven and yet ahs remains silent and avoids me. I have been a long time customer of AHS. My recent experience has been so bad I am considering cancelling my contract forever. I opened a service order for a broken ice maker in early May. The technician came out and told me it needed a part and he would let me know when he had it. No contact from repair company or AHS. I called repair company and was told they don't make the part and AHS would replace the ice maker. Spent over 4 hours on hold on multiple calls the 1st week without reaching anybody. The next week spent about 2 hours on hold and talked to customer service who had to transfer me to appliance procurement department, another 45 minutes on hold, multiple calls. They had to check, told me to call back tomorrow (why can't they call me?).
Hours on hold and multiple calls later I finally reached someone. They can't buy the type of ice maker I had so I was told to buy the new one (~$3,000), have it installed and submit the invoice and warranty and I would get a check in 7-10 business days. That was May 27th. Waited on hold last week, never got through. I was on hold today for 2 hours, never got through. This is the worst customer service I have seen in years. You can't use Covid19 as an excuse forever. When you do talk with someone they are very quick to blame the pandemic. That started 3 months ago, still can't get your act together? I have run call centers during my career and if I was delivering this experience, I would expect to be fired.

Tech came told us that we needed one thing repaired, ordered the part Tech came back the next week to tell us we needed a different part. Another Tech back repaired what they said the problem was, a week later the air stopped cooling off house the house again. So we had to wait yet again for Senior Tech to come out. He came and tells us that something else is wrong and they have to order the part. Updated on 07/15/2020: The initial AC company refused to come out and make the air conditioner operational again. So, I dealt with that for almost three weeks with no air conditioning in South Texas in 107-degree temperature. I tried getting American Home Shield to get another contractor out but I couldn't get anyone off on hold. Finally, we had Rio and they did a fantastic job. They were professional, courteous and timely. I would use them in a heartbeat with or without a warranty. But I probably won't renew my contract with American Home Shield because it's so hard to get ahold of anybody. And when I did get ahold of anybody, they wouldn’t take care of it in a timely matter.
American Home Shield has been terrible. I've had to get a contractor out for the floor and another contractor out for the ceiling. Not to mention, I have two kids, a dog, and a wife that's in South Texas with no air conditioning for three weeks. They need to be accountable and vet their contractors. They need to provide follow-up and follow through with the contractors that they select. I paid the $100 service fee in good faith and not only did I not get my air conditioner fixed, but they also cost an additional $1,200 to $1,500 in damage. I'm still upset. I was on hold for hours and days on the phone trying to get ahold of somebody that could effect change and nobody could do anything. Whenever I asked to speak to a manager or some sort of customer relationship supervisor, there wasn't any available. I still to this day, a month later, have never spoken to a supervisor from that department.
Original Review: Advantage Air Cond and Refrigeration was contracted through my home warranty company American Home Shield. On June 10 2020, the company initially came out and said my coil wasn’t level which was causing the water to not drain properly. They offered to make temporary support brackets for my coil and stated it was safe to use and run until permanent support could be ordered. I trusted the AC technician, pay the 100 dollar service charge and ran the AC for a day and a half while waiting for the company to respond back with the permanent supports.
Approximately 1.5 days later my wife noticed water pooling and dripping from the ceiling coming from upstairs underneath the AC closet. Upon inspection I noticed the hardwood floors were suffered water damage and were lifting, the water had been pooling for a day and a half and collapsed a portion of the ceiling as well. I called the company and explained my concerns, they said they would have another technician come out and address the leak.
On Friday, June 12, 2020, a different technician came to my property and attempted to install a new coil which I was unaware was an issue. The technician removed my coil, disassembled my air handling unit and line and then determined the coil he brought would not fit. He left and the service manager called me to apologize and stated I needed a new air handler unit instead. I asked about repairing the water damage and was told he would ask the owner and get back to me.
I was also asked to call American Home Shield Monday morning and to “pressure” them to approve the warranty request for the air handler unit. I called American Home Shield and was told by their representative that the contractor (Advantage Air Cond and Refrigeration) requested that another contractor be used and they that would not be returning to the property.
I called the Advantage back and asked for clarification, they said they didn’t want to do the work. I asked if they planned on reinstalling the existing coil and reassembling the air handler to the state it was in when they initially came, they replied “no”. I then stated am I to assume you won’t be repairing the water damage caused by your technician. They said they won’t be working with me anymore. I explained I will be filing a small claims and they hung up. This company is beyond bad to work with. They came to my home, collected their service fee, falsely stated the repair had been fixed, causing severe water damage and then left my AC unit torn to pieces and completely unoperational. I am at a complete loss of words and beyond upset. Do not use this company under any circumstances. God knows how much money I am out of pocket and how much of a pain it’s going to be to file a claim or hire an attorney. DO NOT USE!
American Home Shield as not returned any of my calls. My request to speak with a manager or to escalate the issue to a supervisor or contractor relations as gone to deaf ears. I am going to have to put out of pocket for a AC tech to fix these repairs and a separate company to repair the water damage on the ceiling and hardwood floors. Worse experience with a warranty provider I’ve ever heard of.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

He was really respectful about wearing a mask and all that kind of pandemic protocols. He also walked us through things. We were really impressed with the company that came out.
But with the American Home Shield, we’re pretty disappointed with the amount of coverage given what was broken. We ended up having to replace both our furnace and our AC. American Home Shield didn’t cover the furnace, which was pretty disappointing since the part that was broken impacted both. It ended up costing us a lot more than we think it should have had. We won’t be renewing our American Home Shield next year. We don’t see a point given that the coverage was so crappy. In the past, we only had service calls so the coverage was as expected. They took the deduction from my account, and they sent me a text and called within the next 24 hours about when the contractor would be out. Then, a rep from J&M called within 12 hours and when he came, he replaced the solenoid. The dishwasher worked for two days then it didn't work again. I went on the website of AHS because it was up and running at the time and it asked me if my claim was connected to my previous claim on the dishwasher. So, I reinstituted the claim online instead of sitting on hold.
Then, when the tech came up a second time, he replaced the solenoid again because it burned up. He replaced the timer, too. So far, we've been able to wash dishes three times since he'd been here and we've not had a problem. Also, we paid $100 upfront when he first came out, but for the second time, we didn't have to because the problem wasn't resolved yet. Our AC wasn't working and was switching itself off. I filed a claim and the guy who came had been here earlier on when we had a problem with the AC. He didn't fix it the first time and then AHS sent other people to fix it. This time, he said the problem was the door on the unit. He didn't explain whether it's on the outside unit or the upstairs unit in the attic but he said that the door opened on its own. It has a pressure switch inside and once the door opens, it switches off the unit. He could've told me that on the previous service and we could've gone and looked at it ourselves, but he didn't. He got really obnoxious whining about the door and then complained that he had to put two screws in to fix the door and keep it closed. I didn't like his attitude very much but in the end, he got it fixed.
I have to compliment American Home Shield. They're a very good company. They're very prompt and if AHS gives the order, the techs come very quickly. The guys who came on the previous occasion were very nice and they fixed the unit up very quickly. Also, AHS doesn't try to weasel out of doing the work that's required. Some of these other companies that we've been with before have little things buried in the body of the agreement that you don't look at. One of them complained that there's rust in the system and they don't fix it. It's an air conditioning system and it gets condensation inside it. But the company said they didn't care about that and that it was in the agreement. But with AHS, they come, they fix and they don't complain. We chose American Home Shield because we experienced them before with our previous home buy and they did a good job, so we stuck with them. When we decided and start looking at the warranties, we ended up going back with who we knew. When they had Valley Lock & Key come out, my wife thought that they did a very good job. They were very professional and their work was good.

American Home Shield sent a tech from Big Kountry Appliance Repair and the experience was perfect. It was very smooth from beginning to end. The dryer had some blockage in the coil. The technician took care of that, and then the washer required two different parts in order for the filtering of the water to happen. I was able to work with it until he got the part that he needed. He offered a temporary solution until the parts were to get here. He did his thing and then he followed up. He was very efficient and very quick in rescheduling the appointment. I was very happy with the service. Whatever the issue was he was able to fix it.

But it's been less than two weeks and it has gradually been increasing in temperature in all my bedrooms are upstairs. It's like 89 degrees and I have medical issues. It’s like a furnace in my upstairs house and it's unbearable. I had put in another service request online, and they're supposed to come tomorrow. I've been calling AHS, trying to have someone come because of my health condition. All weekend long, I've gone through being in that heat. My microwave had stopped working, and I tried unplugging it and plugging it back up. It would light up, but the table wouldn’t turn and the unit would not heat. I had to file a claim and it was during the Covid period, but my call wait time was not very long. Another thing is that from the day that I put in my service request, within 24 hours, I had someone calling me to schedule to come. When the technician from GE Appliances came, he was on time. He was very professional as well. He was masked and he had on his PPE. He made sure that I understood and he took the time to go over to see what I wanted to have done, what the problem was and then after that, he repaired it that same day. The issue was one of my sensors (when you push the button for start or stop) had gotten bad.
The technician also took the time to tell me what was going on with my microwave and what he had done. He told me to let them know if I had any problems as well. Everything was absolutely great. I have been with American Home Shield for years and then I left them because a friend of mine told me about a company that they got that seemed to be better, but it was a nightmare. When I was with the other company, I had to make two or three service calls to get the tech out here and then when the tech came out here, he had to come back twice afterwards. The overall experience (including trying to reach the customer service department) was absolutely horrible and as soon as that contract was up, I had to come back on American Home Shield.
When I would call American Home Shield for a claim, I could go online or I could give them a call. I love them and as long as I own a home, they’re stuck with me for life. I also tell everybody about American Home Shield and I’ve had a couple of friends who have gotten contracts with them since. American Home Shield's premium is not astronomical either. Being a single woman, I like to have everything covered because I barely know how to pick up a screwdriver. I got the premium package, and it’s affordable. I really like that and that's the last thing.

We had an issue with one of our AC units. I submitted a claim with AHS to have someone come out and take a look and see if what kind of repair they needed to do. I received a notification on when I submitted it from the web portal as well as through email saying the amount of time it will take for somebody from Epic, the assigned service, would be reaching out. The contractors were all super professional. This is the first claim I’ve had and it went as expected. AHS takes away some of the stress to think about who to contract with or how to reach out. They provide a reasonable service for a reasonable fee.

Sears came out and I'm not a fan. It’s weird because they were really good in California when I lived there. They were the top company, and they were awesome. I like the other company better. Even though they merged. Sears kept canceling the visits and then they would extend the visit out and not get out here right away. I waited for three weeks to finally get my oven fixed. I waited for two and a half weeks to get my washing machine fixed. I’m not a happy camper. I wouldn’t hire Sears if I did not have a home warranty at all.
I like the convenience of AHS's service. They cover all of the appliances in the house. Normally, when you call, they get somebody out right away and you pay $75. However, you should be able to get a live person quicker instead of being on hold for an extended amount of time when you call. That wasn’t the norm for AHS. I don’t know if they’ve just been inundated since the COVID or not, but having more manpower on the phones would be great. Then the turnaround time to get the repairs done would be good.

I submitted the claim via telephone when there was a clogged sewer line and that was good interaction. The only problem was it took so long to get to a representative. That hold was very frustrating because when I needed it, it was probably close to an hour hold time. But they told me the contractor would call within 48 hours and it was a little quicker than that. The first guy from SDL PLumbing that came out, his equipment didn't work. The company itself was good because I called and let them know that I was dissatisfied with it, then they sent out another guy. His name was Gary and he was a real professional and stayed until he got the problem resolved. Everything is now functioning like it normally should.
Having Home Shield is definitely a cost benefit because I'm sure it would be a lot more expensive than what my copay was. It's beneficial to have it. I would recommend everybody that has a home to have some type of home warranty coverage. Also, Home Shield seems to be more comprehensive in their coverage. I've had some in the past that their coverage was really limited. You really didn't get what you thought you were paying for. So, compared to the ones I've had in the past, I would rate Home Shield top-shelf.

I submitted a claim online to AHS for an electrical issue and then they ended up sending somebody out. It was fast. The people that came out were awesome and were really knowledgeable because they allowed me to know certain things that I didn’t know I was supposed to have been doing the whole summer I was in the house and checking certain things. So, I appreciated it.
I had other claims and the only one I didn't agree with was the one for the ceiling fan. So, because there was a balloon string connected to it, it blew the engine out of it that burned it out that they weren’t able to have somebody else to come and fix it. They didn’t cover it. But otherwise, the contractors were out there and it was pretty decent. At first, I was thinking about canceling AHS to save money, but it's worth it. I have a niece who has it, and she has a newer house than I do ‘cause my husband built it in 2002, and she used it for her AC. Something went wrong with the AC and they replaced the whole thing. Ever since then, that’s who she told me about, and I started using it.

Sierra Mechanical Services were very kind and seemed knowledgeable about their job, but I’m still having issues with my AC. I talked to American Home Shield and they said they that I could have somebody come out again. I’ve had my AC serviced so many times, and the contractors keep telling me that there’s nothing wrong with it. But it consistently doesn’t work, not cooling, and it blows hot air and it turns off.
AHS said that I needed to talk to the people that they sent out and see what they would say. Every time that they send somebody out, they'd say that my AC is working fine or I needed to add coolant to it, which of course is not covered. So then, I pay every year around $200 to get it filled. Then they say it was working in perfect order. The last time, they were gonna check for a leak, but they said that they didn’t look like they needed to because it still had coolant in there. The customer service has always been nice, but I think there should be something after I’ve called on my AC eight times in two years, that we could get something going on. It’s not just that I want a new AC. Whatever needs to be fixed.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

One of my co-workers had American Home Shield, and so he recommended them. Everything went fine with my recent AC claim with AHS. I had no problems at all. The contractors came out the day they were supposed to. They found the problem and they fixed it. I used to submit all my claims online to AHS. Just go in there and click the button, tell them what’s wrong, and then I start getting emails.
Right now, I have a pending service. They couldn’t fix our washing machine and that was back on the 4th. They came out on Friday the 5th and determined that he couldn’t fix it. I was like, “What’s next?” He said AHS will get in touch with me. Then I got a voicemail saying that they could never get back in touch with them. Today I called AHS and I was on the phone for two hours. I had my phone sitting there playing their elevator music and that was pretty bad.
I went online to my account and there was a link in there where I could order a washer. I did that and got an email saying, “This company will deliver and install your washer.” I called the company just to see what the status was. That was last week, and they said they just deliver, not install it. So, that was the last I’ve heard of it. But as far as everything else, ‘cause I’ve had our water heater went out, they came out and fixed that right away. It went smoothly. The service technician arrived on time and fixed it. That same day, we had hot water. Then the AC thing went smoothly. So, as far as fixing it, everything has been done smoothly.

American Home Shield has done some good things for me and they’ve done some not good things for me. Turner Electrical did a great job. That guy was really great. He did his job very professionally. He explained everything he was doing, why he was going and where he was going. He knew exactly what he was doing and what to look for. So everything is working great and if I have another electrical problem, I want them to come back.
But American Home Shield screwed me on an air conditioner about 10 years ago and I was really not happy. I still have them but I am not a happy camper about that. Actually, I hate American Home Shield. I’ve also had a couple of bad things where they sent out people who didn’t know what they were doing and flooded my laundry room and the bathroom. They did fix the washing machine so it didn’t leak anymore but the dummy cross-threaded one of the water connections. I called and had a note of it made that it was cross-threaded. I also had a picture of it on my phone. But I got it sorted. The machine doesn’t leak now.

They were fine and they were able to fix it. I've had another claim with the air conditioner in October. I had to leave town when the person was able to come out and the person that came out recently reported that whatever had happened was evidently something that the person in October had overdone. We had been having some issues with our central air system here at the house, and it stopped. It was working, but it was not blowing cold air into the house. I had contacted American Home Shield to get somebody out here. Reliable Mechanical was the company they sent out and they took a look at it. It turned out that there was a lack of refrigerant in my system because there were some leaks in the coil system of the HVAC unit itself.
What I was told at the time was I could get a refill on the refrigerant, which I opted to do, but that they would need to come back for additional work if I had wanted to have the coil fixed. I didn't get any follow-up after that, because I didn't wanna commit to anything just because I wasn’t certain of how much coverage American Home Shield would provide for something like that. I had been expecting a quote but I never got one.
The company that came out was pretty good. It’s a difficult time having a technician come out to the house given the current circumstances in the world, but they were very good about distancing. They had their mask and personal protective equipment on. I felt really comfortable with them over. They were really clear about the issues that were happening with my HVAC system in the house and they were really clear about the cost involved, at least with the refrigerant, because I know that American Home Shield only partially covers the cost for refrigerant filling.
They also got out here as quickly as they could. It was around Labor Day, so I expected that they wouldn’t be able to get out here as soon as we started experiencing the issue, but they came out within a timely manner, within a couple of days after the holiday. The technician was very professional and my interactions with them were very positive.

I had gotten another company when I bought my house three years ago and I switched because they tried to increase my premium. AHS did that this year but it only went up by a couple of dollars and about $10. I didn't care because I needed the service because I can't fix anything. I tried to fix the garbage disposal and that didn't go up. I have to put another claim in but I have to wait. Before, I can give the 100 when the contractor gets here. AHS does it through the website, which is easier.
Submitting my claim was really easy. It looks really self-explanatory. I forgot my login information and they helped walk me through that. My AC claim went smoothly. It was just a little piece that needed to be replaced. The contractor was nice and helpful. He told me not to do that because although it was only a piece that I could have gotten myself, I would mess the whole unit up. Even though he didn't have to come inside and did everything outside, he had his mask on. He even told me how to restart back up and make sure everything was changed, which I did, I changed the filter and then he told me to keep it running. We have it at 69 and then if I set it on 70, it's cold. I recommend my neighbor to AHS and he said that I was supposed to get some type of credit because I recommended him but I never saw anything.

This time of year, air conditioners break down and stuff. It was resolved because I found my own contractor. For the most part, it's been a good experience with Home Shield. He was very nice and showed me what I was doing wrong and how to unclick it. He just pushed the red reset button. The garbage disposal was jammed and I didn’t need anything replaced.
For my microwave, it was a huge problem, AHS had to give me a new one, which I thought was wonderful. I picked out a new one and the person who came dropped the new microwave because it was too heavy for him and scraped my whole downstairs wall. He then said, “Sorry,” and left. I felt so bad and I was so mad. The microwave ran fine for a month, but now, when you close the door, the fan keeps running. I don’t wanna have it called in because I'm not gonna pay another $100 for a simple fix. For the stove, a guy came out and did a great job. He was wonderful. My experience with AHS has been great. I got it on both of my houses. So far, everything has been commendable. My house that I have in Virginia, usually, I have them go through the tenants. Then if they need to reach out to me if they can’t get ahold of the tenants, they call me directly, and then it’s a pretty smooth transition from there. Then up here in Arizona now, it’s okay. I try to turn people onto it and I’ve turned my sister on. She was going through some problems with some plumbing though. They sent the same guy out there two times and the problem was still not fixed. I told her she needs to call them back and press that they send somebody else out there because that person was charging her extra and he still hasn’t fixed the problem. But as far as my experience with coming out, I don’t have any complaints.
On the weekends though, sometimes, the calls take a while for them to come online. I don’t know if that is because so many people are calling in. They need to be compassionate of the consumer’s needs ‘cause a lot of times, people call in trying to get things done and they could be having an emergency. Then sometimes, there's a little bit of delay in getting back a response. But other than that, I’m pleased with AHS. I recommend it to anybody else who’s looking for that type of home warranty.

We have been with AHS for a long time. When I bought my house 23 years ago, I had another warranty, but then somehow that disappeared and I ended up with American Home Shield. The number one thing I like about it is the fact that they send me somebody, and they don’t normally don’t try to sell me something I don’t need.
When I put in the claim, the tech came out and said that it needed routine maintenance and that AHS would not cover that. We went ahead with that and I had to pay $75 to American Home Shield, and then I had to pay him another $644. I didn’t really think I should have had to pay the $75 to American Home Shield ‘cause they didn’t do any repairs. However since I’ve had American Home Shield, I’ve probably put in 30 or 40 repairs. I had a major problem one other time, and that was finally all taken care of. Out of those, I only had 2 with that I had a problem with. I intend to keep AHS.

The technician Amazing Comfort sent out was awesome. He knew what he was doing. We had a company prior to them that came out for the heating, and they had to come out three times before that was fixed. The Amazing Comfort technician saw the problem with the wire being cut outside and got the wires redone up in the attic to the air handler. This made the air conditioner work. Within an hour from the time he got here, he changed the thermostat out. It was doing the same thing.

They have heating and cooling insurance with the utility company, so next year, I'm going to go with them because they don't charge a deductible. American Home Shield is too expensive. If you're paying all through the year and you pay a $100 deductible, you might as well pay for when the contractor comes out.
Also, it takes at least three to five days to get people out and that's a long time. I submitted the claim one day and then they have to wait for the people that they're going to get to do the work to contact you, then they have to set up an appointment. One time, I made a request to have my AC unit serviced and when the guy from Anthem Mechanical came, he fixed the unit in half an hour. The filters needed to be changed. He also checked the entire unit to make sure it was operating properly.

My water softener wasn't dripping right so my husband filed a claim with AHS on the phone and SWAT Plumbing came out. They fixed it for me and gave excellent service. The tech unscrewed something that goes around the tip of the faucet and when he did that, the water pressure came out. The water is now coming out good.

I don’t have to search for people and everyone they’ve sent has been pretty good, so I can't complain.

I’ve loved AHS for a long time and recommended it to my sister recently. I've had a house before and had it. Once I purchased this house, I made sure I got it back. Recently, I was having an air conditioner issue. If I turned the AC on, I could hear it running but it would not get cool. The unit outside was not coming on. I filed the claim online and the website is fine but all that it does is give you when you should be expecting a call. The next day, I missed a call from someone and when I called that particular person back, they said they had some things going on and they were gonna try to come out the next day. I never heard from that particular person again. A day or two later, this other company called. The repair made our life better 'cause it came in a time where it was pretty hot in Illinois.

We've just moved into this house. The hot water heater was not getting hot, and we had a company come out the first time. They replaced one of the parts on it but it never still worked after that. The guy had left because he said it would take some time to warm back up. We waited and it never got better. They came out again and said that it was the same exact part again. We had it turned up high, but we had not touched it since he had left. We called again, and that was when we had McDade come out. Ever since they came out, the heater has worked fine.
I did the claim through American Home Shield's website. The website was easy to use. It said the contractor would contact me within 24 hours, and it happened that way. In fact, the first time around, they were within like 30 minutes. It was pretty fast. American Home Shield had good customer service. My experience was fast, easy and convenient.

The last few times I had somebody coming out to look at the swamp cooler, and the guy was quite good. Things were accomplished quickly. This time, when I used American Home Shield, it was wonderful. Doug was very polite and nice. When he came out to fix the problem with the water tank and the pump, that was excellent. He got the job done quickly too, and everything seems to be working well. The last time though, when I had J & B Appliance come out for a refrigerator problem, it took them almost three months to fix my refrigerator and they had to order parts. The man who worked on the refrigerator was nice, but it was so frustrating. He came out and supposedly fixed my refrigerator then it broke again.
I understand I’m not always in the house, so I wasn’t so affected by it personally, but then I had guests coming and three months waiting to get parts is absurd. It was not like I didn’t call, remind them and ask what was going on. The situation pushed me all the way to the point of buying a small, new refrigerator that I have no use for now. It was really bad. I called a number of times and I was quite angry. When the man came back, he said he really should have ordered a new refrigerator. He had missed something in the back of the refrigerator, and I guess once they start working on something and they don’t make a claim for a new fridge, that’s it.
I also had a few other things that had to be done, and they still haven’t replaced or fixed my trash masher. I finally got so sick of waiting for parts to come that I said to forget about the trash masher and fix the other appliances that I’ve asked them to fix. I then found out American Home Shield was adding another $10 to my bill. I got a new dishwasher and that was great, but the price of the policy went up and I still have to pay the $100 when the contractor comes out. I know I had a lot of things done at once, but it all came tumbling down. Still, I have had people that have come and been really good. Now, I am going to put in another claim. I need somebody to come out and clean out my ducts for my swamp cooler, so I’ll put that claim in today.

Prior to the summer season being upon us, I think it’s a good idea to get both of our HVAC systems checked in the spring and in the fall so they can be ready for the respective cooling and heating seasons. My wife found a company that was running a special. It was like $49 for each system. They were not part of the American Home Shield network of preferred providers. But I said, “What’s the worst the can happen?”
The company came and they told me that one of the coils of my upstairs unit was going bad and that it needed to be replaced to the tune of $1,900. That system is only nine years old and I had somebody come out in the fall to look at it. I was told nothing was wrong. Instead of shelling out almost two grand, I decided we should get a second opinion. I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. They sent Island Breeze out for the first time. The gentleman came over and he explained that with the COVID and everything else going on, some of these businesses are not doing so well. Maybe they were trying to pull the wool over my eyes and score a quick buck for their business. He looked it over and said everything was fine.
About a month later, I noticed that my thermostat stopped responding. I turned it down for the evening but the unit never kicked on. I went to the attic and before I even got there, I said, “I bet I know exactly what’s going on.” Sure enough, my suspicion was confirmed. The drip tray that sits underneath the HVAC unit for the upstairs was completely full of water. Now I’m wondering if the guy who came out for Island Breeze was wrong and the first guys were right. I bailed the water out of there just to get the machine going again.
I went on the AHS app and clicked into the thermos request that was for about a month ago. It has the button on there that says "still not resolved" or something along those lines. I clicked it. The dispatcher from Island Breeze called me the next morning. I told her everything and that morning, they sent one of their service managers out. He gave it a once-over and he told me that the drainage pipe was clogged therefore the water that was being made, because of the condensation process, had nowhere to go so it went into the tray. It filled up the tray then the emergency shut off switch kicked on. He cleaned out the pipe, from what he could see. He blew some positive pressure through the whole system and now, it works like a charm.
That visit was a few weeks ago. I guess the first company was trying to pull a fast one on me because to this date, there have been no issues with the system. It works as well as it should. I had a very positive experience with that company. Also, I appreciate how quickly American Home Shield dispatched them because it wasn’t even 24 hours from the time I reported there was a problem that there was an individual here to come and fix it.
I’ve been very happy with the experience thus far. American Home Shield was recommended to me by a coworker after I bought my house. I got it a couple of months after I moved in in January of 2018. This is my first foray into the homeownership experience. I would recommend AHS to somebody who is looking for a home warranty company.

They sent me to Clovis Heating and I contacted them and set up the appointment. The only bad thing was that it was a three-day wait, which was the hardest part. But I completely understand also with everybody else trying to probably get their AC unit worked on at the same time. They checked everything that I had. There was a minor leak and all the Freon was gone. So they filled that back up and fixed the leak. Overall AHS has great, quick and easy service. I would highly recommend them. So, I'm re-upping again for another year or so.

When our pump wasn’t working, I did a lot of research and figured it was probably corrosion, but I couldn't figure out where or how to take the cap off to kinda take the corrosion to be adjusted. The contractor came out and looked at the pump. He was really friendly. I had some questions and he explained what was covered in the warranty, what wasn’t, and what the issue was. He twisted the motor and the corrosion broke. The pump was able to start right off after the fuses were replaced. Even though it was a relatively quick fix, we picked his brain. We’re new pool owners and he gave us a lot of great valuable information. Even though he fixed the motor within five minutes of being here, we thought it was incredibly valuable.

We originally had AHS for about 10 years and we dropped for a year, and we just picked them back up again. Submitting a claim with them has gone very smoothly. We place the order with them, they send out the request to local appliances and they take care of it. Only one time though, we had to call the company to check if they were coming, but it was during the COVID incidence, so everything was going a little crazy. But other than that, every claim we've ever submitted has been handled smoothly and effortlessly.
Recently, we submitted a claim for our dishwasher and they handled it very professionally. The contractors came out. They assessed it. They got its parts, realized that it wasn’t quite fixed, so they ordered more parts, and worked well. They took really good care of us. They informed us of everything along the way, how long it was going to take from placing the order, going over what was wrong. They were awesome. Most people should put just as many appliances under AHS as they possibly can, because you never know when something is gonna go down. And to replace it or have repair is more expensive than going to AHS to assist us in getting repairs.
Gail,
I am glad to hear all of your experiences have been pleasant. We look forward to a strong business relationship with you.

I’ve seen pros and cons for American Home Shield. There are some people that hate them, but in my personal situation, it worked. I just bought this house in January and I had an outside spicket on the back side of my house. The outside spicket was working and it has a shutoff inside but when I turned the water on on the spicket out front, there was no water flow.
I made a service order and the gentleman from All Clear Plumbing & Drain showed up early and looked at the problem. It was the other foot of the plastic tube and then the bend that comes outside the house. He realized that they must’ve put too much glue where the plastic tube connected to the copper going out to the faucet on the wall outside and it clogged the copper. He cut the plastic pipe below the valve, put a vacuum on, turned it on, and I had water at that point. He also had to replace the whole pipe, the spicket, the copper plate coming up, and the PVC, and then everything was good to go. He had everything he needed to take care of the situation and he was in and out within an hour. Now, everything’s working fine.

The customer service of AHS was outstanding. They do everything they can to accommodate and try to be helpful, even when I'm angry. I'm upset at this point. But they're fantastic. Mr. Fix It was great too. He knew it couldn't be fixed ’cause when he came out, he said the dishwasher couldn’t be fixed. I thought he was gonna submit that to American Home Shield, but they decided to order a panel instead. He brought the panel out but the thing still doesn’t work. The microwave needed a fuse, but because they couldn’t find the handle, they made me an offer on it, too. I told them, “You can’t keep sending him out here. He told me the first time it didn’t work, but you decided to send a panel out.” I said, “I’m not gonna keep doing this. You need to decide to replace it or make me an offer.” With this Coronavirus, I don’t want anybody running in and out of my house.
I accepted their offer ’cause neither one of the appliances can be repaired. They said if I buy my own, they’d make me an offer. I accepted it and I’m waiting for their check. June 5th was when I talked to them last. The rep said, “We mail that within five to seven days.” She said I need to email the invoice and I did that. I know they got it ‘cause a confirmation came back. But then, when I called back, she said, “Oh, no, we’d never got your invoice.” I said, “But you did get it on the 5th ‘cause I got a confirmation.” I sent four more back to them last Friday. So I’m trying to find out if they’re gonna mail me the check, and when, ’cause I’ve already purchased the appliances.

Our heater didn't come on and after I made a claim for it with AHS, a technician with United Air Temp came out. He was very professional and fast. He got our system back up and running. This particular service went fine. I liked having coverage with AHS. It's kind of a guaranteed known charge to get somebody out to look at things. A complaint I would have is that the replacement costs that they come up with are not always realistic. It helps but it's not a full replacement. A little over a year ago, we had to replace our furnace downstairs. The price that AHS wanted to give us for the replacement was not remotely possible even for equipment only, not to mention the labor. When we presented them with that evidence, it got us nowhere so we took the money and it helped. Other than that, I've recommended AHS because it's useful. But that doesn't mean I'm not still keeping my ear out for companies that may provide better replacement values.

Mich Tech was here today. They were great. I would like my refrigerator replaced, but they fixed it. We’ve had several claims with American Home Shield. With the coronavirus, I’ve been waiting for someone to come for a second opinion on the fridge for three weeks now. When I took my initial call with American Home Shield, the woman told me that if I wanted to replace my appliances, American Home Shield would be willing to offer me a buyout of the stuff I was getting rid of. That was what the impression I was under but that does not seem to be the case.
I’m upset about that. We are remodeling the kitchen and the appliances are from like 1984. I need to get new appliances, and these ones work, but they’re not to the best of their ability. I feel like I’m gonna constantly have problems or they wouldn't always work how they should. I’m dealing with the old appliances. So, I assumed from what the rep told me if I purchase new appliances that, A, I would get a buyout price on the old ones, and B, that I would get a discount on new appliances, and that also doesn’t seem to be an easy process either.
The people that American Home Shield sends out are nice, but whoever is doing their welcome calls need to get their information straight. The thing that I was most excited about was that the buyout for new stuff was going to happen, and it did not. I have called their the customer service and spent about 10-plus hours on the phone with them. I’ve just stopped calling because it’s like I’m gonna have to buy all new appliances that are gonna come with a warranty. I suppose the warranty is fine for home repairs. One time we had a leak, and I called, and they couldn’t send someone. So, I just called a normal plumber. I have to pay the $100 to have someone come out. The normal plumber charged me $75. So, I don’t know if it’s worth it. I’ve spent like 500 something dollars on stuff, and they’ve just repaired the items that I don’t think should be repaired.

I submit claims online and by phone and both give good service, but I like to ask for a specific contractor, United Air Temp, and I have to do that over the phone. It would be nice if I could do that online. Other than that, every contractor Home Shield has sent out has been good and everything’s been good every time I’ve had a claim.
I am glad to hear all of your experiences have been pleasant. We look forward to a strong business relationship with you.

I like AHS. So far, the service I've gotten has been really good. However, every time I call them, the customer service would take a minimum of 40 minutes. Now that I work from home, I just turn on the phone, I sit there and do my work. The right thing should be the customer leaving a message and AHS calling the customer back. When the whole line was freezing on my AC, the contractor came here to fix it. Now I don't see any freezing anymore.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your AC request. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

Our dishwasher wasn't draining and we filed a claim to American Home Shield. I filled out the form online and the website was fine. I've used it before. The contractor texted me and when he came, we didn't talk because he was wearing a mask and we were wearing masks too. I let him in, showed him to the kitchen and I went to the other room. Since then, everything has been perfect and the dishwasher has been fixed. American Home Shield is good. When we bought our house, it came with a number of appliances that were close to being near or past their expiration date. So, I wanted to make sure that we weren't blindsided.
