I had YAZD Mechanical come out because my air conditioning wasn't working. They changed the capacitor and then it worked. I just showed them where the stuff was. They went out, and fixed it, and then showed me what it was, and then left. The experience was efficient and the job was well done. I called American Home Shield and did the claim by phone. Their claims rep was very helpful. They gave me a window of time at 1:00 to 5:00.
I had American Home Shield before and then I had another company that I did not enjoy being with. I only had them because when I bought my house, that was what they paid for it for a year. But I didn't find them easy to use. I've found American Home Shield to be much easier to use and their contractors and their whole system of dealing with the contractors and the contractors getting in touch with me are much more efficient.

My assistant has American Home Shield and she told me about a time when her HVAC system went out. She contacted American Shield and did not have any issues. She said it ended up having to be replaced. After that, I thought at least for my major items, I would cover those with American Home Shield. Recently, Sears came out. The initial issue was my oven had stopped working and we were smelling gas. I had the gas company come out and the technician pretty much narrowed it down to it being an igniter in the oven. When the technician from Sears came, I gave him the written information that the gas company had left, and he knew exactly what they were referring to. He pulled out the stove, did his initial assessment also to verify it and that was the issue. He replaced the igniter and that was it.
When I filed the claim, they said to expect the technician between 12:00 and 4:00 and he came within that time. It was an excellent service. He was very knowledgeable and patient. He pretty much knew what he was doing at each step of the way. He was very professional too. The gas company had to turn off my gas because the tech did not wanna pull out the stove. My kitchen was finished and he didn't wanna damage anything. Once the Sears person came and did what he needed to do, I had to call the gas company to turn it on. They checked everything as well and everything seems to be fine. It was a painless experience with American Home Shield.

There were a few things that Elite Experts Appliance Services came out for and fixed. Our refrigerator started leaking water. It covered the whole floor in the kitchen. Then my washer and dryer were not working. They were not drying. It would stop in the middle of the spin. The heat of the washer and dryer wasn't drying the clothes all the way. I called American Home Shield. I was given a window when I would hear from the contractors.
Elite was exceptional. It was a very busy time even for a warranty company because I was on hold forever. So I guess there were a lot of calls going in and out. They would call and say, "Hey, we were supposed to be here this time but we're stuck here." They were very professional. I was very impressed with their service and customer service. When the lady in the office tried to call me back and I was downstairs with my daughter, the owner called me and said, "Hey, I just wanted to let you know I was able to get you on." It was a lot of teamwork. I was really impressed of how considerate they were. And even though they were late, they were timely because they communicated that. They weren't rude or disrespectful. I would recommend them to anyone. Coming in the house, they wore shoe covering and I thought that was very good also. They wore a mask, too.
Also, my spouse and I fell asleep on the sofa while the contractor was here. He fixed everything and left and sent us a text that went, "Hey, you guys were really knocked out so I just want to let you know I'm all done." So, they're trustworthy too! A lot of business does not operate the way that they're operating and that's above all the rest. They fixed three different appliances and walked away. We didn't have any complaints. When I explained to them that I have a young child, they put me on the schedule. They fit me in when they can really could. I had a great experience with them.

My sink was clogged and my garbage disposal wasn't working. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and they set everything up. It was straightforward to get an appointment. Their contractor Myers Comfort Specialists gave me a date for the next week but ended up coming the following day. The tech was quick and he had a mask on. He replaced the garbage disposal and now things are working perfectly.

I recommend American Home Shield to everybody. When we had a frozen pipe, filing the claim was very easy. Tri-County Plumbing came out twice because the first time they came out, we couldn’t find the water shutoff and had no idea where it was. That happened to be the last day that the guy was working because of the COVID shutdown. When we got back again and that company was back to work, we called them out immediately. They’re very good.

I had an issue and I couldn't tell if it was a plugged up pipe or it was my garbage disposal because they're right next to each other. I filed the claim with AHS on a Sunday and a nice guy came out that day. An hour after he left though, we still had the same problem and I was surprised that I had to call somebody back because the first repair didn't work. I paid twice for it. They sent out another guy and he took care of it. However, as the customer, it's difficult to get somebody to come back out. Even on the website, they record the fact that I had a stopped up drain, and I can slide over and there's a place where I can indicate it's still not fixed. In theory, I would get somebody to come back and take a look at it, but that tab doesn't work.
Every time I follow their protocol, I get a message that says the system is not working and to try back in 30 minutes, but it never works. On top of that issue with my plumbing, I've had a recurring issue with my refrigerator, the icemaker. AHS has sent out two different people to fix that and I'm in the same place with that. When the guy left to say goodbye, I asked if he wanted me to sign anything and he said no. He then left and four hours later when I went to get ice for dinner, there was no ice. There was also no water to the refrigerator and I couldn't figure out what he did to not make it work. I went back to the website and said it still wasn't fixed. Today, I had to call the call center somewhere in the eastern part of Europe, and I couldn't get somebody back for almost two weeks, so I'm stuck with a broken refrigerator.
From our opinion, it has been a great insurance policy and we use it like this. We have these emergencies and it pays for itself. It's also easy to file a claim. You get on the website and they bill you for 75 bucks then they make an arrangement. Somebody shows up and the problem is solved. It's been a piece of cake 60% of the time, but over the last two years, it's been less than easy.
American Home Shield is great in concept and a large percent of the time, it works out just fine, but it's these quirky things that make you think about whether or not it's worth it. You gotta want it. Part of the customer service is awful. It's either the website or it's how much trouble it is to get a service person out here. If it still doesn't work, there's what you got to go through to get a second service person to come out and really make sure that it's done right.

I've been with American Home Shield for 15 years and I just referred one of my coworkers. I'm a single mother and I don't know how to fix anything. It’s peace of mind and they've been very good about attending to whatever needs I've had throughout the years. Most companies that they refer call me right away but Whitney did not. I got a text message that my appointment is set for this day. They never called to set the appointments. I asked if we could make it for the afternoon because I work and they accommodated me. I took half a day off and the first time that they made the appointment, I waited and waited. I got a phone call stating that they had an emergency and they couldn’t come out. They asked if we could reschedule and I said that was fine.
I rescheduled for another day and took another half a day off. The guy called me and said that he was on his way. So, I came home. He came over and he saw the ceiling fan with the lights. Besides the fan, the light was not working so there was a little bit of shortage on it and I was concerned. They looked at it and said it was not repairable. I kinda had a little bit of relief. It's damaged. So, I was comfortable and told them to get rid of it. They were very nice when they came to the house. They were very pleasant and they were in and out. They analyzed the situation and they said that they would contact me. I waited and waited but no one contacted me. So I sent a message again and asked if they were coming out here. They said I gotta choose my fan and I have a limit of $120. So, I went into Lowe's. I chose a fan with the ceiling lights and I sent it over to them.
We went back and forth with a little bit of messaging and then the girl set the schedule yesterday between 1:00 and 5:00. I had to leave work so I asked if they could text me when they were coming. No one texted me and I kept texting them. So I left and I sent my boss a text that I gotta leave just in case the contractors show up. I'm not having my daughter open the door for nobody. I have to be present. So I got home and I texted him again. He said that they were coming between 1:30 and 5:30 and I was scheduled.
At 4:44 I texted them and asked where they were and told them that I was waiting here. I got a phone call from the technician and he said that they were not gonna make it out that day and that my situation is not an emergency. He had an emergency so he was gonna give me my time and they would come on Friday. I told them that this was the second time they did it. He told me not to speak over him and he started screaming at me. I got teary eyed and I told him that I pay my dues and I'm a customer regardless of emergency. My case is important to me and I get it that he had an emergency but he should not talk to me like that. He asked if I didn’t like the way he talked and hung up the phone.
I sent Whitney a text message stating the situation. I was upset. I said that I'm gonna contact American Home Shield and Better Business Bureau. This is not the way we conduct business. The owner ended up contacting me. He was a very nice man and he apologized. Unfortunately, the only technician he has that works for my area is this guy. So, I need to repair it. I don't know how to fix this stuff, which is why I have a home warranty. Someone was supposed to contact me today regarding this situation and no one has contacted me from American Home Shield.

Our hot water heater was no longer heating the water. It was just very ice cold water. My husband called American Home Shield. The rep said that they would contact a company and we should hear something within the next day. On Time Plumbing & Heating was our contractor. We called and they called us to schedule. It was either the next day or the day after that company actually came out and fixed the hot water heater.
The tech was great. Our window was like 12:00 to 3:00 and he showed up right at 12:00. It was quick and he was in and out. He made sure he cleaned up what he was working on and explained it to my husband. We had no issues at all. Our unit has been great since then. It has actually better hot water than before it was fixed. The fix let us not take cold showers anymore. Being a part of American Home Shield was great. The only negative is we tried to file the claim online and it gave us an error and wouldn't let us do it. It said I needed to call to file a claim which was what we ended up doing. We were on hold for about an hour.

I had some plumbing issues - 2 toilets that were down and a sink that was leaking. Filing the claim was pretty easy. I just went on the app, did my thing, then I was contacted the next day. The dude was in and he was professional and nice. He did his thing and did a really good job. He was fast and he knew what he was doing. I like how good the contractors were with their job. They were fast, efficient, and I haven't had any trouble since then. My water heater was broken one time and they came out and fixed it real quick. I haven't had a problem ever since either.

I was getting just warm air coming into the house and I went over to the machine outside. I noticed that the compressor wasn't even running and it was only the fan that was running. When we put in this claim, American Home Shield wanted to send Comfort Pro. We had a major problem with them back in December and they left us without heat for nine days. I told AHS to take that name out of the system. I didn't even want them at my doorstep. Since we went to an automated system, I had to sit on the phone for an hour waiting to get an agent on the phone to change it. I waited 45 minutes the first time and I couldn't wait anymore. I waited an hour the second time and I finally got somebody on the phone.
The rep changed it and got this guy to call me. As soon as the technician came the following day, he knew exactly what it was. He took the cover off the machine and pointed right to the problem, which was the capacitor and he changed it. The machine started right up again. Within 20 minutes, it was done and as of right now, it's working great.

I got mad at this other warranty company so I quit them. It's been almost a year now that I've been with American Home Shield and so far, it's been good. I call and people come and fix the issue. I had a claim with 822 Plumbing and it went good. The man was a little grouchy but I guess he got up too early. He was on time.

Drew's Pump and Plumbing came out for the mess with my hot water heater. I called in because it wasn’t heating. Then I called the contractor and they set up the appointment. They came by and were professional about what they did. They had the mask on, were real courteous and offered a whole lot experience. So far, the hot water heater has been good.
I did have a little problem a couple years back but it wasn’t American Home Shield. It was the company that American Home Shield sent out. Instead of fixing the problem, they kept on patching it. I notified American Home Shield but they ended up sending them again. I just had a horrible experience with that. But I don’t have a problem with Home Shield. Every time I called the company, they sent somebody out right away. It was the same thing with my pool, it was right away. They came and got it straightened in just a couple of days. So I’m pleased with the warranty. I have also recommended it to my family members. I initially saw an advertisement on the TV and when I talked to the person, they explained to me what they covered and what to expect. Now, I've been with them for five years and being a part of American Home Shield has been really nice and good.

I submitted a request for my air conditioning unit on 7/5/20. I was assigned companies with horrible ratings. Last company could not come out until 7/9. I asked if I found my own contractor and paid for it could I get reimbursed. I was told yes initially. I called back to cancel the work request for the company that could not come out until 7/9 and I was told that would not be an option. I have stayed on hold for a least an hour each time I call AHS. Called twice on 7/6 and three times on 7/7. I was supposed to get a return call from a supervisor, but that never happened. I think four days is unreasonable to wait for a contractor to come out and diagnose an air conditioning problem when the temps are in the high 80’s to 90’s.
In addition, there should be an option to pay for the service and get reimbursed in certain circumstances. I have been a customer for over 20 years and I am totally disappointed with AHS. In addition, my heating and air generally goes out each year. I would like to know why AHS continues to put a bandage on it instead of replacing the system. It probably could have been replaced twice considering the amount of money that has been spent on it for the multiple visits each year. Please respond. Thanks.

I placed a service order for my broken dryer in early June. American Home Shield sent a serviceman out (it took a week) and he "fixed" it. However, the first time I tried to use it, I had the same problem - it wouldn't even come on. I tried to call AHS and was on hold for a very long time so I went online and requested a second service. The second repairman actually determined the problem and that a part would need to be ordered. He did a temporary fix on it so that I could at least use it in the meantime.
That was June 15. I'm still waiting for the parts and the repairman. I've attempted to call AHS on numerous occasions and sit on hold with no one ever answering. They offer to call you back if you leave your number but never call. I finally called the local company contracted by AHS and they said they were waiting on an authorization from AHS. I asked them to please call and get it and I haven't heard back from them. I am so disappointed in AHS. It's a worthless service if you can't even reach them when you have an issue. I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

I suppose when it works, it works; but when it doesn’t, watch out. Had an ice maker repair, 4 weeks later and as many visits, it’s still not resolved and AHS has been ZERO help. When you can get through (average wait thirty minutes) I have asked repeatedly for them to give me a different contractor who can get the job done. Nope. Asked to speak to a supervisor. Nope. Asked a supervisor to call me back. Nope. Asked to get transferred to the cancellation department. Nope. And now begins the undoubtedly uphill climb to cancel. Absolute garbage.

I have been a customer of AHS for 4.5 years and paid close to $3,000 in premiums ($54 per month). The only claim we have made was for a small part that went into a faucet (maybe $10). We had 2 of their contracted service providers out last year trying to help us with a leak with our air handler but no one could find it. We contacted Trane (the manufacturer) who said if the unit was heating/cooling correctly, it was working properly and that something else must be causing the leak in the unit. Trane denied this was a manufacturer's issue.
The past few months, AHS has sent 3 different providers to our home and none of them could find the exact cause of the leak. The first one suggested we replace the entire unit. AHS denied the claim saying that it was a manufacturer's defect and that is excluded in the contract. Then, AHS gave me some ridiculous story about how the HVAC company #1 agreed to fix it for $400. When I spoke to company #1, they said they absolutely did NOT agree to that and had no idea what AHS might be referring to. Furthermore, the gentleman who was here was on the phone with them for over an hour in my driveway and they guided him on how to write up the claim. Of course, they did because they used that guidance (manufacturer's defect) to deny the claim.
After FIVE hours on the phone trying to get this resolved with AHS and company #1, they finally agreed on a second opinion. Company #2 gave some different options to help correct the leak. Again, this was denied by AHS. Several more hours on the phone, I escalated this to the next level. They finally agreed to a third opinion but denied what company #3 suggested also.
1) None of the comapanies will speak to me further because they told me they have to sign something with AHS that they will not discuss the matter or say anything negative about AHS. Two of the 3 companies disputed that AHS was giving me the same information they had given to AHS in order to deny the claim. But, they were unable to provide what they had given to AHS because they are not allowed to, according to AHS vendor policies.
2) Hold times to reach a customer service person have averaged between 45 minutes at the least to 1 hour and 15 minutes before anyone answers the call. This is completely unacceptable.
3) The full amount of the money that you pay for your "Service Fee" for each service provider to come to your house does NOT go to the company. AHS keeps part of those funds. So, they make money on your premiums AND the money that I assumed went to the company that is called to your house to fix the issue.
4) You cannot cancel your policy online. You must call and wait through the long hold times to get your account canceled. You must speak to multiple people who try to talk you out of canceling. They also CHARGE a cancellation fee. Unbelievable.
At this point, paying the $54 a month into a savings account would have been in my better interest because at least I would have that amount to pay for my own repairs. Instead, after almost $3,000, I have NOTHING to show for it and the HVAC system still does not work. I joined this company 4.5 years ago because my brother had great success with them about 7 years ago and recommended them. They have since been purchased by another company that unfortunately, doesn't have the same customer service standards that the prior owners did.
We do apologize that the service issues and customer service provided to you has caused you to cancel your policy. It was not our intent to cause such an inconvenience. We hope that one day you may change your mind. We do appreciate the feedback and will continue to work diligently to improve overall customer experience.

Updated on 7/20/2020: Since then, the company did reach out and take care of the problem. So, I can say that the Consumer Affairs part was very good. They did what they said they were going to and as soon as I sent them the receipt from buying a new refrigerator, they processed a check and sent it to me for the agreed upon amount. It took less than a week to receive the check. So, in the end, for this situation, they did do what they said they would in a timely manner.
Original Review: I signed up with AHS in Feb 2020. Not long after I signed up, my heat pump stopped heating. I called AHS to request service. They sent out a company who sent a young man not older than 21 years old. No uniform, no signage on the vehicle. After looking at the unit, he said the gas igniter was bad and had holes in the heater coils. He said it could not be fixed and I needed a new unit. AHS would be in touch he said. AHS called a few days later and said they would replace the unit and I only had to pay a $1500 deductible. So, the company called me back and said they would come and install a new unit but I needed to pay the $1500 up front. I said, "No, I'll pay you the day you come install the new unit."
In the meantime I had looked up this company for reviews. There were several and were terrible. Not showing up promised, lying to customers, and list goes on. Well, they said they had to have the money up front to do the job. I told them there was no way I was giving them $1500 and then just hope they showed up. I call AHS back and told them I was not paying that up front. I asked if I could get another company to come out and give a second opinion. They said I could but I would have to pay for it. So I did. A reputable company came out out and said the igniter was bad but was fixable, which the other company said it was not. They said there were no holes in the tubes at all. So they replaced the igniter for $275.
I asked AHS to reimburse me for that since I had just saved them a lot of money as well. They refused. They said they wouldn't do that. I either went with the company they sent, or I was on my own. I should have canceled then, but didn't. Fast forward to June, and my fridge started making a funny noise like the fan having a hard time starting up. I put in a service request for my fridge. This time they sent Sears, a much more reputable company. He looked at it and the part that was failing is no longer being made. He said I would probably get my fridge replaced, but that when he spoke with AHS while at my house, they told him they were going to try and find the part. They would not take Sears Appliance word for it. This was on June 25.
It is now July 6th, and I never heard back from anyone at AHS. So, this morning I called them. Never have I experienced a run around like today. I've been hung on twice. Been put on hold so many times I've lost track. When I finally spoke with someone about my account, they said yes, it was to be replaced. They said I needed to talk to the dept that handles purchasing and replacing items, and would I mind holding while they transferred me to that dept. I said OK, thinking maybe we were getting somewhere. I was put on hold and after about 20 minutes, it hung up. So, I call back for the fourth time today. After holding for 10-15 minutes I talk to the lady and explain again what's going on. She goes through the same thing and transfers me to this dept.
As of right this minute, I have been on hold for 2 hours, 21 minutes. It is totally unacceptable. It almost seems like their intention is to get people so mad and aggravated, they just hang up and say the heck with it, and cancel their contract. I am very, very disappointed in this company. I would not recommend them. And of course now, I've been on hold for 2 hours 25 minutes. It is 3:25 pm where I am. I fully expect to be on hold until 5:00 pm or later. If they ever pick up. Beware, you've been warned.

I have had this service for almost 4 years. Didn't have a problem until this last time I needed to use it... Which it had been probably 2 years since the last time.. Hot water heater had to be replaced. They assigned me to a HORRIBLE contractor. They deemed it needed to be replaced. They went back to AHS and between the two of them it took 7 days! 7 DAYS with a 5 Month old for me to have no hot water! Then because the old one was out of code, which everything is gonna be cause they change code every three years I had to pay for upgrades.. Which is fine.. Still took them 7 days!
Once I sold the house (2 weeks later) I went to cancel... And the girl was so rude cause I told her I should be paying a fee no matter what the contract was because I had to wait 7 days for a hot water heater.. She said she couldn't sent me to a manager and hung up on me.. I had to call back 2 more times.. Funny how if you go thru the prompts to be a new customer they answer right away.. But if you are going thru it because you're having an issue it can take hours! Had to pay the cancellation fee by check... BAD SERVICE! WILL NOT EVER USE AGAIN. They should not be in business if they can't serve their customers. Of course I read that because of a sneaky clause in their contract it prevents a class action lawsuit... And plenty of people have issues.
Amber,
Thanks for providing your feedback. I hate that we were not able to come to an agreement regarding your concerns while the contract was active. While we hope this does not discourage you from considering us in the future, we do understand you had a decision to make for your home. Take Care.

The first time I had to use this service for my A/C, it was easy to request service and I did get a callback from the A/C company. However, when I needed to follow-up with the A/C company, I couldn't get ahold of them directly so I put in a follow-up request (and it went to the same company). Again there was no follow-up and apparently no other A/C companies for me to work with.
When I called AHS, I was told the wait time was an hour and there's no option to have them call me back. I called them back and was asked if I wanted a callback so I said Yes. Within 5 minutes I got a call from Sales but the guy was rude and dumped me back to the main menu. Apparently AHS cares more about Sales then Customer Service! I'm still without proper A/C and I'm wondering what will happen after another day or two goes by? Will AHS follow-up with me to get me another A/C repair company? Do I have to wait on hold for another hour or more with them waiting for me to give up!

We’ve done two claims with American Home Shield and they both were very quick and accurate. For an electric claim I had, they worked very quickly to get someone assigned to us. They contacted us very quickly as well. Ian with Kelly Brothers Electric was the gentleman that came and I felt really good about it. He was professional and just went to work. It was a pretty quick fix so that was good. He also had a mask on the whole time and we wore a mask in the house just to make him feel better.
We've had American Home Shield for three or four years. We usually have a warranty on our home or for the bigger expenses. It's more as a safety net. There are appliances that are getting to the age where we don't know if they're gonna need repair. The house is pretty new but the appliances now are questionable. When I make claims, I typically would wanna do it over the phone. The representatives were good. There was quite a long wait to get a representative but once the rep was on, it was good. The wait was probably like 20 to 30 minutes. It probably could be improved but I think most customer service take about that long with any company. But I have found that the online claims process is pretty quick and easy.
I am glad to hear all of your experiences have been pleasant. We look forward to a strong business relationship with you.

I got the home and my buddy has a different kind of warranty on his. The only difference is the deductible. But I like it because he has to pay for his deductible for each item that he has. A while back ago, I had three leaky faucets and I just paid $100 deductible for all those three. So, it was pretty good for me. When the dishwasher wasn’t draining, I submitted a claim with Home Shield through the app. It's better that way because I wasn't on hold. The first time I did the claim with my dryer, I was on hold for 20 something minutes because of all this COVID thing going on, and everybody was taking phone calls and stuff. But when I submitted it for the dishwasher, it was quick. It took less than three minutes.
And then, Zen Appliance did contact me the second day, but I have no good reception where I was at. So, they emailed me saying that they were trying to get ahold of me but they couldn't. And then I called them back. And then the third day, they were here already to fix it and everything was good. Everything was professional. I was out of town, but my brother was here and he said that the tech came and had a face mask on. He opened the dishwasher, and then, he pretty much knew what was going on. He cleaned the drain and filters. And then, he tested it and they came out good. He explained to my brother what happened, what was the problem, why it got clogged up, and to be careful not to do this, that. And then, he left. He fixed everything really good. Home Shield is a pretty good program. I love it. I have them for six months already and they have been here for me.

My air conditioning wasn't working. Carolina Air Heating & Cooling came out and they found out what was wrong but it was an electrical problem, not a problem with the air conditioner. The guy from Carolina re-hooked up the wire but he said that he shouldn't have done that because he's not a certified electrician. It worked though. Then we had to have the electrician come out and fix it for good. That took another five or six days, which was longer than I would have preferred. But now, the air conditioning works fine.
In having the coverage, I like the reassurance that if something major goes wrong, it could be fixed without me having to be in a hole by a lot. But it takes an hour to get somebody on the phone every single time I call American Home Shield and because some of these issues are complicated, they require multiple phone calls. Then when I get someone on the phone, it would be another 30 minutes at least. So for that reason alone, I would not recommend American Home Shield to other people.
For just this one issue with my air conditioner, I was on the phone for a total of about six plus hours trying to get someone to resolve the issue. Usually when I get someone on the phone, they're able to fix the issue and I know that it's busy because of COVID but it's outrageous that I have to call and wait. I've never in my entire life had such poor customer service by phone. Also, every other company that I've interacted with has an option where if you call and there's a long hold, you can press one and they will call you back when someone's available. I don't understand why American Home Shield doesn't have this. So you literally have to sit there on hold.

One claim that I made recently to AHS was for the compressor on my refrigerator. It was a little frustrating because it took three weeks from the time of the initial call. Usually, I submit my claim online. But I made a call on a Tuesday evening and they gave me the name of the contractor over the phone. I called the contractor in the morning. I didn't wait for the contractor to contact me. So, I called him quite early in the morning and he was very responsive. He was a lovely person. He came over that afternoon. When he realized it was the compressor for the refrigerator, he said he'd put the order in right away and we’d just have to wait and see whether they'd replace the whole refrigerator or just get me the part.
It took a whole three weeks until I was able to get the part. I called him about a week later, and he said he was still waiting for the part. I called American Home Shield to find out about a replacement, why it was taking so long. But when I called them, it took forever to get through. I waited on the phone for over an hour to get through and they couldn't give me an answer. They said they don't know. The person that I was speaking to said they’d talk to the parts department. They put me on hold. They had me on hold for a full hour.
I was on the phone for two hours, an hour waiting and an hour while they were trying to find out. They came back and said, “We don't know when the part is gonna come in. We'll call you when it’s in.” So it took a full three weeks until I finally got the part and that was very frustrating. When the guy came and had the part, he called me the next day and he was here and he did a great job getting it fixed. I’m generally a very satisfied customer of AHS. I’ve been using AHS for years. This was just a very lengthy process because any other kind of thing, if it's an electrical thing I need a certain kind of, a light switch or something that takes a while to come, it's never been this long. I'm still happy with AHS.
Jerrold,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you and we apologize for the delay in receiving your parts. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I had some electrical issues in the kitchen area of the home I purchased. When I bought my refrigerator and the guy came to set it up, there wasn't enough electrical current going through the outlets in the kitchen. I ended up having to buy an extension cord to go across my kitchen to have enough charge to keep my refrigerator going. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they sent A to Z Electric. The tech who came in said that he had seen this issue in a lot of homes. He unscrewed things and did what he needed to do with the wiring in seven minutes. The tech was professional and went about his business. Everything is working fine now. So far, things have been pretty good with Home Shield. I've had to contact them regarding a few other things around my house. Things are taken care of with no problem.

I love American Home Shield. They sent Best Care Home Services when the AC wasn't turning on. We have two AC units and the upstairs went out first. Then we were waiting for a couple of parts to come in. Right when the part came in, the downstairs unit stopped working. But we have air now. The issues upstairs were the fan and the blower and downstairs, it was one of the capacitors.

I like the fact that if something breaks down in my home, I have a service company that provides the service. They can come out to my home to repair or replace it. It's good to know that I don't have to search for a company. I've had prior experience with my washing machine and dryer and my refrigerator. But I unfortunately have not been satisfied with the issue that I have been having over the last four months in reference to my heat and now my air. It has been a true headache and inconvenience with the companies that have been coming for numerous times. In fact, I've lost track of how many times. You freeze in the winter and you burn up in the summer when you lose what you need to keep your home warm or cool. So that has been very frustrating.
I had heating problem issues in the winter and I went weeks, if not a month and a half, without heat. I was using heaters that I purchased myself. One of the companies had offered to bring me some heaters but never did. They never actually showed back up, answered the phone or called. I had to call American Home Shield to have them finally send another company. I understand that there's a procedure – that the company assigned has to come so many times before American Home Shield can send another company. But that was an issue for quite some time.
Then come spring, I had issues with my air unit and that's been an ongoing problem. American Home Shield was saying a company would come and do this and that. But several times, by the time the tech would get back to their company, my air had stopped working. Therefore, I cannot call the company that just left my home. I would have to call American Home Shield and be on hold for 45 minutes to an hour and a half just to let them know my air was not working. That was almost the same thing that I had to do with the heat although I got through a little more quickly back in January and February. I know we've been with the COVID over these last weeks and I hear the message that comes on prior, and I understand that but it's been a wait to get through.
Another thing is that I have stressed numerous times that my heating and air unit is on the back of my house and it's on the roof. Strange as it can be but that's where it is. So I've always emphasized that the companies that would be assigned should bring a ladder. But there were numerous times where when the company was calling me to say they would be here tomorrow at such and such time, I would remind them and ask if they would be bringing a ladder, and they would ask why they would need it. So they didn't get the information and that was another frustration.
One company finally fixed my heat and that was JF Whitlow. They worked diligently on my heat. So when my air stopped working, I did request JF Whitlow. They ended up coming six times and each time, I ended up being a little bit more disappointed. But the men who came weren't the same ones who worked on my heat. The men would do something and tell me something. They would replace a switch or that but they would not really even stay long enough. I didn't need them to stay an hour or two, just maybe 30 minutes to see how the temperature gauge was going. Several times, my thermostat before the evening came would be at 80 or 85 downstairs. But my house is an older house. It's a frame house and if it's at 80 downstairs, it's 90-something upstairs.
The last thing with JF Whitlow was a compressor switch. But I had also never been left with any type of paperwork about what they fixed, what they didn't fix or what they could fix. Then I was connected with another company last week and this gentleman did leave me a list. He came by himself, went up, checked, got the history and documented at least nine things wrong with my unit. One of them, which he wrote in large print, was that my unit was a fire hazard.
Another company was supposed to come yesterday and they did come but I missed them by a couple of minutes. I flew home as quick as I could but they had left and they're saying I have to pay $50 for them to come back next Wednesday. They're scheduled to come back then so I have to take another day off. I have certain days off every other week so I've had to take days off to be home when the company comes. So that was another inconvenience. However, I've done what I've had to do. But because my day off is next Tuesday and American Home Shield doesn't have anyone available to come next Tuesday, I will take a day off next Wednesday.
But I don't even know why this company has been assigned. Are they coming to verify what the prior company said? I'm assuming this company that was scheduled yesterday is a second opinion and they were coming to see if the unit is really deemed a fire hazard. My heating and air has been there since 1999 and although my air is working now, it's day-to-day. After the man left last week, the temperature went up to 87 degrees and it was hot. But then I came home the other day and the unit was working.

The contractor was good. He was professional and the service was great. He came, did what he said he was gonna do, and fixed the problem. That was my first time using American Home Shield, but so far, so good. The only thing I didn't care for is that it happened on a weekend and the person couldn't get out till Monday. It would have been nice if they had somebody that does AC on hand that did weekend work because it could get pretty hot. To have to sit in a hot house over the weekend is not fun. There are plenty of companies here in Houston that do work on the weekends. To have to pay for something on a monthly basis and still have to wait and no one’s there is the part that could be improved.

They're fraudulent. They tell you all these things that they're gonna do for you, and then when you call them out, they find every reason in the world to keep on getting parts. I have a call in now for my refrigerator. They fixed the same thing five times, and they're still trying to fix the same part. My refrigerator is over 20 years old. I keep having the same problem over and over again, rather than them trying to go on and try to get it taken care of without having me do this and keep spending these $75. It's a waste of time. You can't get them on the phone. They're rude, they're disrespectful, and they're not very helpful either. They will tell you anything too. Sometimes, we have to hang up and call again to talk to somebody because they don't know how to talk to you.
We're spending this kind of money and they're supposed to be accommodating us. We're not asking anybody to give us anything, but every time we think we understand what the list is, they tell us that doesn't apply and they're only gonna give me $50 here, or $25 there. That's crazy. I told the rep, "After this and after I get this done, I do not want it anymore." I'd rather take the risk of doing it on my own than having to deal with the attitude and the unprofessionalism. Also, some of these vendors that they have out there, they're not worth anything. On average, I would not call them to come to my house to do anything.
Now, I didn't have that trouble with Myers though. I had a problem with my air conditioner and they checked it. For the last two times I had them come do my air condition. The one guy that came knew what he was doing and I like for him to come. If I have to use Myers again, I'm only gonna request that particular guy. I don't want anybody else to come because he has shown that he's not trying to cheat you. He's gonna do just what they asked, and he's gonna explain it to you. It's not gonna be back and forth with him and I appreciate that.
Now on the outside, I will call Myers on my own to do that rather than having to go through American Home Shield. To sum it all up, I do not like American Home Shield. I don't like the process, I don't like the false advertisement, and I don't like how they handle and deal with customers and handle the complaints, the problems that we have, and how they address them. I hate it because it's a rip-off. I rate them a 0.5 because they're off the scale.

The only thing that I don't appreciate is the long wait on the parts. Sometimes you don't wait for American Home Shield to fix something that is broken and you end up buying something else. Particularly on my washer, I took the decision to buy a new one. But on the refrigerator, I couldn't afford to buy another one and I had to wait two weeks with no refrigerator. But the overall service is good.
I've been with American Home Shield for seven years and I've gone through a lot of contractors. A-US Air has been the best ever. The technician explained everything and was very nice. He went through even when I asked him about calling. I told him I broke the heater and he said it was another call that I would have to make. He said it's like the dishwasher and the other one is the refrigerator. Anybody could have answered that they don't know and that they don't deal with that. But he was very patient in explaining everything. He told me that when I call, he would come and fix the other one later. I asked him how I could call the same people because I was interested to have his company come and he left me the name. He was outstanding.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day

I told my cousin, “I got no man at home now so how am I gonna fix this mess?" She said, "Girl, you get American Home Shield." I submitted the claim online and then Home Shield sent me the people's name. I forgot to ask when they were coming out and I called a week or two later and made for appointment and they came out. Maytag came out to fix the dishwasher. He called in for the part but they didn't have the part anymore so he said they couldn't fix it all. And then, I got a paper estimate. Then I got an email saying that I needed to order a new one. And I got the same thing, an email saying that was zero dollars. And then, I picked Whirlpool for a new one. All they did was drop off a dishwasher. But the unit is working great. Now, we're back on track. I would cook while I ran some dishes, putting them inside the dishwasher at night, then I'm okay. It helps so much. I hate washing dishes.
Home Shield did an excellent job. I had an excellent experience with them, even down to calling to find out. I did it twice and both of them were excellent. The AC man was better than I thought. The man that I got for the dishwasher stood up behind their work. And then when he finished, he made sure, "Don't use this product in here. This product works better. It cleans your dishes." Home Shield is worth it. I tell my sister about it. She's going to sign up for it.

Having the home warranty is like having car insurance. It takes away a lot of the stress. But the Freon is $85 a pound and American Home Shield pays $10 a pound. I also got a refrigerator fixed a few months ago and the refrigerator is broken again. They said if they don't fix it, they'll replace it but here I am, going through the same process again with it. I gotta do another claim again on the same thing and pay the fee again so I'm burned out about that. They even sent out two contractors and both of them haven't been able to resolve the issue. I thought American Home Shield would cover more than what they do but it is what is. Moore Air did a good job though. The AC was blowing hot air. So, it didn't appear to be broken to a layman. The Paragon guy came out and he showed me. It was pretty hard to tell the breaker itself is failing. He fixed that. So, that was great.
We had a different home and we had American Home Shield for a couple years there. When we bought this house, it had a different coverage on it. We used that for a year, but I didn't like it as much, so I went back to American Home Shield. I liked American Home Shield’s interface better. I’m satisfied with them. At first, he was thinking it was the seal of the dishwasher so he took the door off and ordered the new parts. He came and started to put the new seal on then realized that there was a crack at the bottom that he didn't see the first time when he was here. He said to give him a day and he needed to file a claim. He came back and said that American Home Shield wouldn't accept the claim. But he knew how to fix it so he came over and fixed it himself. He was being nice and helpful and I appreciate that.
Now, the dishwasher is working fine but he said over time it's probably gonna happen. He said that the fix is only a temporary one. I'm fine with American Home Shield but if this happens again, I'm worried that I'm gonna have to pay another $75 and wait another 3 weeks. It did take 3 weeks from the time the first people came out to the time the second guy came out.

Every time I get transferred to the Philippines, nothing gets done. But when I got to talk to people in the States, they tried to help me. They were courteous, polite and understanding. It was just that things fell through when it got to having somebody outside their list. I've had an air conditioner out for over two weeks. We live in Redding, California and it’s pretty hot here.
American Home Shield sent out Salyers Heating & Air Conditioning and they supposedly fixed the air conditioner. It worked for a few hours and then it quit working. I tried to get them to come back out. I called American Home Shield. They called them and asked them to expedite the work order. But they refused. They asked to have that work order transferred to another company. I needed somebody to do it. So I asked someone outside to do it. We own a number of rentals so we have a property manager that takes care of our properties for us. I called them and asked them who they use because they can't have a company that flakes off.
I contacted that company and the tech said that because he has to sit on the phone and wait to get authorization, he doesn't work with them. So I said I understand because I would call American Home Shield and I'd be on hold for an hour at a time. This happened at least seven times. If I wanted to wait for one of the other companies from American Home Shield, none of them could even come out and look at the air conditioner until sometime next week. So I called up the company and asked them to fix my air conditioner and that I'd pay for it myself.
The tech said he would come by about 2:30 and he was here at 2:30, went up, checked it out and found out the problem. He called me up and told me what the problem was. The problem was the motor that is an OEM only product, which is expensive. So all totaled, by the time we get done, it was gonna be about $900. He is here now, finishing up. He was here at 12:30 with the part and went to work and will have it done in a few minutes.

But I don’t like American Home Shield’s website a whole lot because you have to pay $75 before you even know if anything is gonna be done. And sometimes, it could be a week or two weeks before anybody even gets to you. I had an AC issue before that and nobody told me that I was going to have to do that. So, I was on hold on the telephone for an hour and eight minutes and nobody picked up. Finally, when they picked up, I gave them all my information and we got disconnected. They never called me back. Instead of sitting in 97-degree weather all night and I just had surgery, I went ahead and called an AC company and had it fixed. When I used the website also, I got a phone call back at 10 o'clock at night. They’re pretty on top of it.
My husband and I are very satisfied with American Home Shield. If they can’t fix it, they will replace it at the value that it's worth. They replaced the other air conditioner last year because we had problems over and over. So, it's worth it. You might go a year where you're not getting the money's worth, but you might get more than it the next year. I have high-end appliances and it's usually the air conditioner or my stove. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield for my heater tank issue was very easy. Their contractor IRH Plumbing came to fix it. Everything has been fine in the many years I have been their customer. Not too long ago, I had a problem with one of the heaters and the guy sent by AHS came in, took a picture of one of the faucets, and said he had to change all the parts. That was it.
But then, I have another company that made an epoxy for my whole house for avoiding any leaks. Plus, I have a paper that says I have a lifetime insurance for any leak in my house. I called AHS's contractor but they said that the problem I was having cannot be fixed so easily because the epoxy started getting messy due to the heating of the water. This was why I didn't have any hot water in my house. Because of this, they have to change something inside the house. I then called AHS to say that I didn't need their service. Later on, when I had a problem with the water heater, AHS gave me another company who fixed it well.

I had a claim a few months ago and they sent Hardy Plumbing. They came and they were supposed to come back and finish fixing the drain stop in my bathroom. My husband called three times and I've called him four times. The last person that I talked to from AHS was Jess three weeks ago and I said that I didn't want Hardy Plumbing coming to my house because we had called them seven times and they kept telling us that they were coming to finish the job but they hadn't. I've paid my $100 deductible and I haven't gotten the job done. The rep said that they were gonna try them once more and if they didn't come, they would follow up on it and get someone else.
I've had them AHS for about three years and I've never had an experience like this before. We didn't have a whole lot of problems with Hardy Plumbing before. But this time it's like something is falling apart. AHS should follow up on the work orders and make sure that they. should do something if someone has already paid and complains about a contractor. I'm getting ready to cancel them because I still haven't heard back from them on this.

I turned my air conditioning on for the summer for the first time and it wasn't having any air come through the vents. I kept the fan on high and I got something that way, but that was the extent of it. I called American Home Shield and they had somebody come out. Then American Home Shield realized that the particular company they sent out didn't take care of my model. So, they searched and they found Chesapeake Comfort. The way Chesapeake Comfort handled our AC issue was fantastic. Their technician looked at it and he said that he needed a part which he got within about a week or so. He said it would take a little longer because of the particular model that I got. They got it done and I paid for Freon and whatever their visit was. And I love it.
American Home Shield was great. It was such a good experience that I told my neighbor. When going in and getting something like a warranty for your stuff, you're putting that money out. I didn't mind $50 a month but I did feel like I was taking a risk because I didn't know exactly what they would cover when the time came if I didn't do something. So, when something happened, they showed me that they stood up to what they said they would do. I really value that, especially these days 'cause I don't get that everywhere.

A long time ago, there was a time when American Home Shield said we should have done this and that and they didn't pay for our claim. Recently, my husband called in a claim for our air conditioner to American Home Shield. They sent Service One Air to our place and the tech told my husband that we needed some part that was causing our unit not to cool. They replaced that part in the next day or two. My husband told me that the techs who came were very professional. So far, we've had a few claims with Home Shield and their coverage has been okay.

We've never had any problems with American Home Shield, and we've been with them for 10 years probably. We've had coverage at our first house which is an older house, then we bought a new house and we still retained the coverage there. We then moved out of that new house into another older home. If something goes wrong, my husband and I have the coverage and it's gonna be handled. They've already had 3 or 4 calls out here for different things, and they've been fabulous. The claim with American Door Masters was perfect. There was something wrong with the sensor to the garage door and the control board in the actual unit. They were able to repair it the same day and everything's fine.

I like the ease of not having to worry when something breaks. I know that for the most part, American Home Shield would cover it. I had them on another property too. They are very professional. Their contractors tell you what's going on and they arrive when they say they're gonna arrive. I like that they have photo IDs. And I prefer the technicians to come out with plumbing on any issues that I have because I know I can trust them. I had a recent claim where my garbage disposal wasn't working, my dishwasher wasn't draining, and my washer wasn’t draining properly. A plumbing claim was made and American Home Shield assigned Blue Star Plumbing as the contractor. The tech repaired everything in one visit. Things were good once he got here.

American Home Shield sent G & L for our dishwasher. I have to test it now and I am sometimes having problems closing the door and it locking and staying that way. But I don't know if I'm putting too much in. I haven't called back because it seems like if it's empty, it’s easy to close. But if I have dishes in there, it won’t stay locked until I kind of push it a couple of times. Other than that, the service was great. The gentleman that came to provide the service was very professional, timely, and gave us some good advice on what type of cleaning solutions to use for the dishwasher to make it work more efficiently. I like American Home Shield's timely service. Any time I put in a claim, it seems they respond fairly quickly. Every time a service provider comes out to fix a problem, they're always very professional.

Everything was great when the techs got here for the washing machine that had a broken door on it. Repairs come up right when you're not ready for them and having American Home Shield gives me peace of mind. They're great. I'm gonna look beyond all of the communication issues because of COVID. It was really hard to get someone live and I had to end up going through a real estate representative for American Home Shield just to be able to talk to someone in person to make sure that the claims were being handled the way I was told they were being handled. That is more of an anomaly of literally being on hold for an hour then talking to someone in Trinidad that has no control over anything. I have phone numbers of people locally that have backdoor phone numbers for American Home Shield so it could get done, but that's me. I figured out the workaround but that's not like the everyday consumer who might be really frustrated.

Coastal Poor Repair came out and replaced the pump, and then that was it. It was pretty quick. It took them about 40 minutes to do the job. We just bought the house in May. I’m going on two months with Home Shield. I know that there are things that haven't been replaced. That's why our Realtor got the preexisting conditions, that it would cover them. However, he had to call Home Shield and blast the company how bad the service is. Since we bought the home, we've had bad experiences with customer service, with the people that assess the claims and with the long holds that we had to wait on. Home Shield is not an insurance company that I would recommend at this point. Things have gotten fixed, but it has been with pressure where my Realtor had to call and argue with the main company. But for it to actually come from Home Shield, it hasn't been there. It was a bit of a headache.

Georgie, the gentleman who came for my plumbing issue, was very good. He explained things to me and was personable and professional. I have no complaints. Something was stuck in the garbage disposal in the sink. He took it out, reset it, made some other adjustments and it's now working fine. I also had to replace my central air conditioning last year. I had no complaints as well. The nominal fee that was charged for the service visit was great.
AHS has provided me with very good service. In terms of the level of response, you get an email and a call from the contractor to say, "Expect me on such and so time." Sometimes, they are a little before, depending on the job, and then the follow-up that you get, the professionalism shown and the genuine interest to me are commendable. I have had no negative experience with the contractors today. AHS is a great investment. I'm spreading the word within my family that it is an excellent service to have. I'm very satisfied that I was encouraged to take this kind of coverage out, and I have no regrets at all. American Home Shield coverage is really a bang for your buck. I really appreciate having it.

A defect on the refrigerator was causing it to freeze up, so the guy who came fixed it right away. He put some stuff and then he had to put a new part in. He was very good and the response time was unbelievable. It was within two days and we never get anybody that quick up here. In the past, we've gone around and around with American Home Shield. When we originally moved in, we had them come out and look at our roof 'cause we had a leak. The guy that came out took a look at the roof and he said it was installed incorrectly. It voided the warranty on the roofing, so they canceled that part of our policy. We then had a couple other people come out. We had solar added and they looked at it. They said there was nothing wrong with the way our roof was put on.
We just spent $18,000 on a brand-new roof. We had to have a company that could come out, remove the solar, put on a new roof, and then put the solar back on. Because if we have a roofer come out on their own, they won't warranty the roof once solar is put on it. We had to do both and we had a hard time finding someone that would do both. We went to the County of San Diego and they gave us a list of recommended people then we got four bids. The bids ran anywhere from 9,000, which would not warranty the shingles, all the way up to 25,000. The roof was shot and should’ve been repaired way back when, but since the guy said it wasn't repaired, our Realtor came out and tried to put some patchwork, which we've been doing ever since we've lived here. We ended up getting the thing which we paid for ourselves and did the whole thing to be done with it.
It took three months to get our spa repaired as well. They kept sending somebody out and he would come out, do something, then they'd come back. That was the really depressing part. In the end, they just gave us cash toward a new spa, which was not that much. We also had an experience with our hot water heater with them where we sat for four days with no hot water. We live up in the mountain area, so we were not pleased. They ended up connecting with Sears, and Sears is a big joke. They put in one and it only lasted a short period of time then Sears couldn't get a replacement of the same kind.
They told us to go out, and if we get one of our own, they would reimburse us, but they refused to because they said it had to be the exact model that they put in. Sears couldn't get that model, so if it was their brand, how could we? We ended up taking them to ConsumerAffairs and put a point against them to get them to come around to reimburse us part of the hot water heater that we had installed. This time, when I called in about our refrigerator, and we've had ongoing problems on refrigerators, they wanted to send Sears out. I said no way. Sears also sold us a brand-new Maytag electric stove when we moved up here and it would never heat right. It had problems with the door and the heat was coming out. They've been here seven times and they haven't repaired it.
They kept changing their mind on what was wrong with it. They put on new hinges, a new seal, a new mounting around the door, a new padding on the door and it's not fixed because the door doesn't fit the opening. I could put a towel on the door, close it and pull it right out. That's how bad it was. The guy then told me that the thing was defective. We still have the oven and that's why I never let Sears come near us. Also, they only come up here once a week and it's only on a Thursday. If you called on a Friday, you're gonna wait till the following Thursday to get any service.
American Home Shield has been good and the only problem we normally run into with them is getting someone that will come up here for what they're willing to pay. We live in a natural resort town. They end up telling us too, that if we can get somebody on our own, and then they have to call, and they will reimburse us. We've had that happen several times. The last time with the hot water heater, we found a company that was willing to come out and replace it. American Home Shield kept replacing the hot water heater with the same brand. It was the cheapest brand you could buy and the plumbers kept telling us that it wouldn't last.
Some of them lasted six months. Some of them lasted a year, and then water started leaking out of them. After we had one put in and it was a better quality, we've had no problem with it. So, as a last resort, I call American Home Shield. One time, I wanted to have a safety check on the furnace and thought to just call a company I knew. They came out, took a look and said our air conditioner has gone bad. They also said that the furnace was leaking, it needed to be replaced and we had to shut off the propane that goes to it. They said they would replace them for $5,600 and I said no.
The last time I called American Home Shield, they sent a guy out. He looked over the whole unit and he was washy about the camera. He didn't have a camera to check, but he said it was fine, that he would turn it back on. He said there was no carbon monoxide coming out and that’s all I wanted to be sure of. Now, we’re waiting to see who’s telling the truth.
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

There was no hot water in my shower. I had a mixing valve that was broken. This was one of the quickest services I'd ever had as far as response time. Anywhere Plumbing called me before I even had a chance to call them and they set up an appointment. The only problem I had was that I noticed a leak in the shower about five days later, and so I called them back, and again, bang! As soon as I left the message, they came out again. As it turned out, when the guy replaced the valve, he didn't replace one of the washers that was leaking. Once he fixed that, it was 100% done. I liked the speed that they called me back and that they were very flexible. Many times, the repairmen have ridiculous kind of hours, like they only can come between 8:00 and 12:00. This company narrow down like they can do 10:00 12:00, 12:00 to 2:00, 2:00 to 4:00, and so it gave me more flexibility as a working person.

I really liked Sweeney Plumbing Systems. They were great. The young man who came out was very polite, professional and helpful. He went out of his way to make sure that our problem was resolved and he did a really good job. We were having an odor in the bathroom from the faucet and I had called somebody before for that but they wouldn't even touch it. This young man just did it and was very personable with my husband and me. He took the faucet apart and cleaned it out, and that seemed to resolve the issue. I really liked him. Sweeney is a really good company. I even kept their number just in case.
But when American Home Shield couldn't find somebody initially, after the second or third time, which was even a long time, they should have let me find somebody. They didn't give me that option. They just kept calling and calling all these companies and I kept getting all these emails that so and so is gonna be showing up. Then I would call and ask if they were coming and they would say they didn't work this area. It was a mess. I got really upset about it. I just about canceled. But Sweeney came out finally and they were so good.
Normally, it's a tedious process, what American Home Shield has to do to get somebody. Then after one or two tries, they come back and say, "Hey, you find somebody," then I have to go find somebody. And that's difficult because we live in this weird little area. Also, one of the people who answered my phone and took my initial complaint did not speak good English. I don't know what country they lived in. I'm also hard of hearing so it was difficult. The person did not understand when I told him I only have one bathroom. He wanted to know if the bathroom was in the house or not. I was kinda shocked by that. Then I got other people who spoke good English. That wasn't a problem. The claim just was not resolved in a timely manner at all. I called some time in May and it was well into June before it was resolved. It’s the worst service I've had with Home Shield ever. But I've never had an issue like this and it's our third year with them.

The only thing that I don't have right now is the centerpiece in the sink that prevents the water. I don't have functionality of my sink because they removed it and said that it was not operational. And I thought $40 something a month and $100 when something breaks are great. And it just so happened right after I got the warranty, my garbage disposal broke. That's not such a big deal. I could live without a garbage disposal. My kitchen would stink but that's fine. But then the AC went and it's Florida, and then 8 o'clock in the morning it was 87 degrees in my house. I can't. Their site was very easy to use and they said that a contractor would be calling me within 24 hours. Crispy Air came on behalf of Home Shield and the tech from there was perfect. I called Samsung, and talked to them and I was not being successful in trying to make it work. So, I finally started calling American Home Shield.

I had to call somebody else because I couldn't wait five days for somebody to come out because I was hot right then. I forgot about it, and he came out. I called like three times for my AC, but for it to be a five-day wait and I'm in Houston, there's no point. I would suggest that certain situations should get a higher priority. I had a water heater that wasn't staying lit. I originally submitted a claim online and the American Home Shield website was fine. I actually much prefer just going online, doing it, and handling it myself. American Home Shield sent out Emergency Plumbing & Rooter. The guy came out and said the water heater was malfunctioning. He relit it and said he was not sure how long it was gonna stay lit then left. Less than a week later, it didn't stay lit so I called at that time and reopened the same claim. American Home Shield sent out the same service. They suggested that the water heater be replaced, which it was. But I have a very old home and the water heater wasn't originally installed up to code. I had to pay out of pocket for whatever needed to be installed properly.
I'm new to American Home Shield, but so far, so good. They responded quickly and I got it all done. I didn't like that I had to pay such a huge out of pocket, but I understand it wasn't a simple replacement and that the house is 100 years old. The very first time a guy came out, I was not happy with their service. I don't think the guy communicated very well and he said the unit was not installed correctly. But the unit had never gone out before and it looked new. He said it wasn't really old. I was under the assumption that water heaters last forever because that's what I grew up with. When he told me it was how many years old, I thought that was still new. But it was at its lifespan. That's my ignorance but now I understand they don't last forever.
The second time the contractor came out, I was exceptionally happy. Those two guys who came out to install the new water heater were absolutely great. The unit's been functioning perfectly since. I'm very satisfied. I keep the contractor's card on file in case I ever have anything. I was really happy with them. The whole thing about the water heater going out was a real pain. But when the contractor came out to reinstall it, everything was great. They did it quickly. The unit was in my basement so they had to bring the old heater up from there. They had to drain it up through my laundry room and drain it outside so everything was clean when they left.

They only put through for the toilet and not for the sink. I had to call back and I got somebody somewhat locally here in the States, and she was able to fix it in time for the appointment. Cornerstone Plumbing was supposed to call me in 24 hours and they did, and then they came out the next morning. They were really excellent. They fixed our sink in the kitchen and our dripping toilet and it made our life extremely nicer to have it fixed so quickly (washing pots and pans in our bathroom sink is not a good thing).
I have recommended American Home Shield as well. I gave it to my sister and a couple of my friends. Overall, we like being with them. During Christmas time, I was having issues with the house staying hot and my AC was a two to two and a half year old unit. I had a technician come out, and they said that the compressor had completely went out in the AC unit. I even had a second opinion. I had American Home Shield send out another tech from another company. They said the same thing, but granted a couple months before that, they never foresaw any type of issues with the compressor potentially going out in that unit. I found that to be very odd for a two year old unit for the compressor to go out. They never explained to me. They pushed that everything is covered. I pay my one fee per month and as long as the AC unit is not 100% broken, they will go ahead and replace the parts.
What they don't tell you is they don't replace the Freon that goes into the unit. American Home Shield needs to specify and reiterate that to other homeowners. I have three kids and I had to cough up $700 during the holidays. I wasn't too pleased about that. It would also definitely work if American Home Shield was more flexible with people's schedules. Recently, I had Matt's Plumbing Services come out and they did exactly what I put in my work order. It was plumbing issues related in my sink and my toilet, and they did a good job. A week later he called again and I gave him a code once more. I got home an hour after that and the tech was bolting back down. Everything has been wonderful since then.
Previously though, I had somebody come out to look at my air conditioner and I didn't like them. They didn't diagnose the issue properly. The air conditioner didn't work and American Home Shield sent out Jay Jay Mechanical. In 20 minutes, they said they would be here. They were like next door as 15 minutes later, they were here. They did what they needed to do. The fix was done on-site and that was fun. I'm doing pretty well but I wish American Home Shield would lower their prices like if the yearly fee dropped a little bit. It's kind of expensive but it is what it is. I also wish they have more availability on some usual stuff.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

Accord Appliance came out for my stovetop that had a pilot light malfunction. There was an issue with the electronic ignition. I used the online to file the claim and the tech was scheduled for a week away. It was a while. That was the quickest that they had because I was really open. But then, once the contractor came, the tech was okay. The unit fixed itself. Having Home Shield saves a lot of money and I like their service most of the time.

Overall, service with American Home Shield is great. I've been in the house for 19 years, so that's how long I've had the account with them. Submitting claims is easy. Recently, Climate Masters came out for an AC issue. The gentlemen said that the handler at my circuit breaker wasn't on. Unfortunately, it was an unnecessary visit which cost me $75 'cause all I had to do was to flip the switch in the circuit breaker.
American Home Shield has some contractors that do their job and some that don't. It was a matter of you having to file a complaint or calling back. I was very disappointed when they got rid of BlueDot because they were on point. I don't have a problem with the prices going up because I understand the economy but they could improve on their deductible coverage. I've noticed that I could have something in my kitchen that's wrong and that's one deductible versus something in my laundry room which is another totally different deductible. It used to be that one deductible.

Our AC was running but it was not working well. The air was flowing but the AC chiller was not working. It was blowing outside air into the house. Tru-Way figured out that it was caused by a leak in the air conditioner coils. They put a leak detection fluid into the air conditioning system and a week later, they came back to see where the leaks were. They determined that the best course of action was to refill it with fluid. They replaced the refrigerant liquid in the coils and ever since they did that, it has been working well. Both times that Tru-Way came out, they were exactly on time. They were very courteous, and it was a simple straightforward process. I would absolutely recommend these guys.

I had water under my sink coming from a leaky pipe and I analyzed it to be my garbage disposal because I live with it. When the rep from 1st American Plumbing came in, he said that everything down there was dry. I said that if he would fill that sink or this pan full of water, dump it all out at once and click on the garbage disposal, he would have water everywhere. And he did. He said we needed a garbage disposal and he ran out to the truck and got one. He came back in, put it in and left. He did a great job for me.
I don't monkey around with calling American Home Shield to submit a claim because that's wasted effort. I just go online and click what I need to click and it gives me the choice. I said leaky pipe and then, they sent me a text and told me what company they were gonna send. They have sent that company to me before and so, I went online and checked them again to make sure. They didn't have any outrageously bad things so, that was fine. The rep did as I asked him and pulled into the driveway in the back because walking through the garage in the laundry room and then into my kitchen is easier than coming through the front door and the rest of the house. I saw he had a mask on and he had gloves on as well so, I was pleased.
I am happy with AHS and I have recommended them. My friend that I recommended them to lives in Oklahoma City and she did not have a good experience with them. Years have gone by and I didn't have a great experience with them on air conditioning too. But I eventually worked around it and got my own guy to fix it. American Home Shield sent me a check. They're fair. They tried to save the washer and sent two different kinds of repair companies. Then, they sent a second opinion company. Finally, I told them that I have a caregiver for my husband and I have to have a washer. It's too dangerous for me to go out to the laundromat. So, they sent me a text that night and asked me to select a washer and I did. Then, I had my son check it out for me to make sure I wasn't doing something stupid and he blessed it. He said it would fit in the laundry room and encouraged me to go ahead and place my order, and so I did.
The washer came and they put it in. That was a couple of months ago and I have no complaints about American Home Shield. I've had things fixed periodically, and I'm gonna go up and request repairs to our ceiling fan in the family room because it makes a lot of noise. I figured give them a stab at it. I am a woman who has to take care of her home because my husband has dementia and so, I need them.

I chose AHS because I have a friend that has a home here in Pennsylvania and one in Arizona as well. He used them and he has good experiences with them. However, when I had a problem with my water heater, and the contractors came out for that, it was a little confusing. I talked to a gentleman twice about it. The pressure relief valve on the water heater itself was leaking.
When the serviceman was out here, they determined that the pressure reducing valve coming in from the street was the issue. They replaced that at no charge, but they would not replace the valve on the water heater, which didn't make a lot of sense to me. 'Cause they said if the water heater itself was leaking, they would pay to replace the full water heater, but not a part on the water heater. But everything went well with my recent claim with AHS. I did the online service request thing Sunday night, and Monday afternoon there was a serviceman here for the dryer. Then, he replaced the heating element, the thermostat, and it's been working fine.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day

The compressor blew and the coils were a big mess. They said that it could all be repaired. But to repair one was gonna be $1300 for a clean-up to bring it up to standard, and the other time to fix the coils is gonna be 1800 to bring it all up to standard. So I opted to buy a new AC unit and they didn't help at all. Everything is fine with AHS, except the air conditioning units. The repair is covered but you'd have to bring your air conditioning unit up to code and that's the expensive part and they don't cover that. It is written in a teeny-tiny print. They need to disclose that when you purchase the warranty.

The AC claim went very well. The young man from Express Heating and Air Conditioning was very informative. I told him about the noise with the capacitor and he checked that because I told him that's what Express had changed out a couple of years ago. When I heard the roaring sound, I didn’t know if the AC was going out and this is summertime. I didn’t want it to go out. He said sometimes these things happen but he checked everything out and it looked good. He said that he couldn't find anything but if the sound would come again, to call him back. He did good. He fixed everything. He even told me that I need to get it checked twice a year and gave me some advice how to keep it going. He was very knowledgeable when he gave me information and he talked to me.
But the service with my microwave is still not done. The young man who came and serviced that told me he was ordering a part. The part was supposed to come here but then I got something about my service being complete. Then he came back and said he wasn’t servicing it. I've come to find out that the plug to the microwave was burning and I need to call him about that because I think I got an electrical on my microwave. I can’t even plug the microwave in because of the socket. He didn’t even look to see about the plug and he's supposed to be the appliance expert.
I also asked why he would have a plug shipped to me. It should have been shipped to him and he should have brought it back. I'm not pleased with that at all. Then the young man who checked the hood had taken everything out and said he had checked everything. He said he did hear the noise but that there was nothing he could unless it goes out. So that’s where that is. But the others did well. When I was having problems with fruit flies, the plumber said the source was the garbage disposal and he changed that. He did good.

The people American Home Shield sends out to do the work are excellent because they really try. But as far as getting through on the telephone, American Home Shield needs to hire some more people to answer the phone. When you make a claim, it's okay but when you call to follow up on it, you have to stay on the phone for three or four hours. One lady even asked us to hold on for three whole hours. She got on the phone and then hung up and I had to wait for two more hours. So that's the hard part. But other than that, American Home Shield is wonderful.
I've been with them for about two years this time. But before this, it was a long time. When I first bought the house, I was with American Home Shield but I had a dispute about something and I left but then I came back. I had 2-10 and then I had TotalProtect and then I came back to American Home Shield. Currently, my dishwasher claim is not over yet. Tommy D Appliance has to come and put in my dishwasher. He said he'll call me tomorrow to let me know what time. But they did deliver the dishwasher today and I checked it over to make sure there were no dents.

I had Home Shield before and I felt that that was too expensive. I tried two other companies, the last of which was, "If I get my hands on you, you'll be dead." What happened was, my refrigerator stopped working. The motor died. It was on a holiday weekend and it was dead. Aside from everything else going on, the rep said, "Well, I can't get anybody there now." And then finally, he got somebody here but they said it couldn't be fixed. It needed to be replaced. He didn't call me, so I called them and said, “Are you gonna get it replaced or how does it work?" "Oh, no. We'll have a meeting and decide how much we're gonna allow for it."
I said, "Excuse me?" He said, "Well, we prorate it." I said, “Prorate what? You're supposed to replace it if you can't fix it." "No, that's not how we work." So, he sent me a check and it was a big double French door Maytag with a freezer at the bottom. And he sent me a check. And then he had the nerve to call me up. I was less than pleased. I said I would stop playing with these nickel-and-dime places because I know Home Shield does actually replace things if they go. Equal to equal. Just recently, Home Shield sent out CNJ Services and it was wonderful. Because of the COVID virus, the tech was appropriately dressed. He was knowledgeable and everything went very well. He replaced the valve. Everything is working fine.

What I did not like is last year, there was a price increase and they didn't notify people. It went from 60-something to 90-something so it was a significant jump. I've been an American Home Shield customer since 2014, and usually don't have any trouble, but in trying to discuss an issue with my very old A/C unit over the phone, I was met with condescension by a customer service rep who consistently interrupted and misunderstood me. This, after waiting for an hour just to speak to someone. I understand that this is a holiday and there's a global pandemic happening, so I expected the wait time. Still, I've been trying to contact someone with AHS for weeks, and it's been difficult every day; today was the only day I had time to sit around on hold for so long. It seems like you can only get any action if you first shell out $75. But I wanted to talk to something.
My old A/C unit is low on Freon, a substance that is being phased out because it's environmentally toxic and has been outlawed. When I tried to explain this to the AHS customer service rep I finally got through to, he kept interrupting me telling me that I was wrong. He says that he's been filling lots of work orders to have Freon put in A/C units. He wasn't interested in listening to my explanation and I eventually got so frustrated I told him I needed to hang up. Each time I tried to clarify something he'd misunderstood, he would interrupt me and tell me to stop interrupting him and let him speak. It was very frustrating. And I didn't get any further in fixing my A/C--which is completely dead.
More background: I'd had A2Z Heating and Plumbing out to service my A/C several weeks ago. It was just a regular seasonal checkup, so I didn't go through AHS. A2Z is the company that AHS calls when there have been issues with my heating and A/C in the past, though. The A2Z person who checked my A/C said that the freon was low and that since the beginning of 2020 the U.S. was no longer manufacturing or importing the substance. He suggested I get a new A/C because mine wasn't cooling efficiently anymore and would eventually die.
I tried calling AHS several times, since it seemed like I could make a legitimate claim to have my A/C replaced. This is why I have been paying for this insurance, right? Instead, I kept meeting long wait times until this week when my A/C pretty much died completely. Then, I tried explaining all this to the AHS customer service which, as I described above, didn't go very well. I feel that if they don't have the background information, if I just make a service request, they're going to try to put a band aid on my A/C and maybe even try to put more freon in my dying environmentally unsound unit so that they can avoid paying out a legitimate claim for a new unit.

The only other complaint I had with the process was I called in when they told me what they were gonna do and that there was gonna be an extra $265 for additional work that needed to be done. I asked what the additional work was and they said they have to change the T&P valve or replace some lines. I'm not a plumber, but I've done a lot of home remodeling, and it wasn't even $50 worth that needed to be done. So I called in and I asked about getting a cash-out option.
I called on Friday and I talked to a gentleman and he said, “Well, I can't give you what to cash out option is. We have to submit that to another team and they have to call you with a quote.” I said I was okay with that and asked when was I going to get this call since the contractor was supposed to come Monday and put it in. He said, “Oh, well, I don't know. It should be sometime today. If not, it’d be first thing Monday.” But they never called so I called back in and I asked where was the quote. The guy was gonna be here within a couple hours and I wanted to know whether I had to do the work or do a cash-out option. The guy told me that whoever I talked to the last time never put in a request for the quote so I was gonna have to pay for it or I was gonna have to hold off and it could take several days for them to get it done.
The tech was a very nice gentleman. He was very friendly and professional. He did a great job. He did it quickly. But the hose that they said had to be connected was part of the hot water heater, so it was literally you disconnect one, set the other one in place, tighten the thing and you tighten it down. In other words, it wasn't like they had to bring in extra piping. They brought in what was part of a hot water heater already and they swapped it out. With the T&P thing, he took out one section that was about five feet long and connected it to the existing thing that I already had there. So I don't think it was $265 worth of work, but I paid for it. But I felt like I was being strong-armed to do it. I would give a good recommendation on the tech side. But on the Home Shield side, it was a horrible experience.

I submitted a claim online and AHS gave me the company, the US Air, but they were around the Dallas area, which was two hours away. But the guy that works for them as a technician lives here, so it was okay. He was very polite, courteous and very timely. I told him when he called, what I had been doing to the air conditioner to keep it going a little bit just to cool the house under 100 degrees because it was 105 degrees when it went out. He knew exactly what was wrong with it when he got there because of what I told him was going on. He changed those two parts and left and that was good. Right now, it seems like everything's fine. I haven't had any problems when they left.
The only complaint I have about American Home Shield is the automated system’s a pain and the wait time is ridiculous. It took me over an hour to get answered on the phone. Then, once I got a hold of the girl that waited on me, she put me on hold. She was very irritating herself. She couldn’t even speak good English and some of the things I had to ask her to repeat, she got aggravated ‘cause I asked her to repeat. So my whole experience with trying to get this taken care of with American Home Shield was an hour and 45 minutes. So, they saved me the cost of a new air conditioner I don’t need, but I get really pissy when I’m on hold that long.
The only other complaint I ever had with American Home Shield was when I replaced my refrigerator. My refrigerator broke and that took them three weeks to get a compressor and didn't fix it. Then they had to come back out and do something else and that didn't fix it. The technician finally recommended to replace it. I said, “I've been without a refrigerator now for two months.” I was putting everything in coolers and freezing everything I could possibly freeze that would thaw back out, so, I was irritated with that.
Then when they finally said, “Okay, were’ gonna replace it,” ‘cause I didn’t go with one that they recommended, that they would send to me, ‘cause I want to see something. I want to touch it, feel it and see it. When I replaced it, it took them three months to send me my money. It was a total of five months to get my money back from American Home Shield on our refrigerator. Then they said, “We can't find this. Did you send us the receipt?” I said yes. I still had the email where they received it, but I resent it to them on the same email. But they kept telling me they didn't get it. I said, “I sent it to the department that sent me the request for the receipt.” But those were the only problems I’ve ever had with AHS in eight years.

We bought a house and we took over the existing contract with AHS. Filing claims with them is very easy. I do it straight online and by email. Recently, I had a plumbing issue where they sent out Drain Masters. The techs came in a Drain Masters truck and did a very good job. They mentioned that they found a couple of problems. The one they initially came out for would've broken down at a later point had they not fixed it and they've been back out for another issue. But it all fit into the same problem on the Elite Toilets. Aside from that, the techs were very professional and very thorough. The guy that came in, Chris, was also very nice.

American Home Shield is the service we sell with every house that I sell and it's the preferred provider for Berkshire Hathaway. I got a policy and I've had two calls since. The heating element on the microwave didn't work. It needed to be replaced and they replaced the microwave. I then called for the air conditioning. My AC was almost 100 degrees, and it stopped working. It was blowing hot air. Epic Heating and Air came out the next morning, did some tests and said I was low on Freon. They put a pound and a half of Freon in and it has worked since then. However, the Freon was $120 a pound and I had no idea it was that expensive until the guy told me. He said that they cover $10 of the $120 and I was really surprised with that. The guy also said that if it lose it again, I might have to replace the conditioner.

I have two neighbors who got Home Shield because of me, because they asked me who was I using some years ago. One neighbor still has it, but my other neighbor got upset about something. Home Shield has their lower-grade, mid-grade and higher-grade. I have the higher-grade. She needs a new air conditioner. I was trying to find out why she had to pay a whole lot, because maybe she misunderstood and she said, "No, I called them twice and they said that's what I would have to pay." But after we talked, she had the lower payment a month so she pays a lesser amount, and that may be why she didn't have enough to cover a brand new air conditioner. Maybe that's why the cost was expensive. But she wanted to get her money back. I believe she left Home Shield. But my other friend has it and my other neighbor has it. So, I have two other friends that still have it because of me.
My claim was handled very well. The guy from Prime Plumbing was very fast, professional and knowledgeable. I have highly recommended Home Shield. I've been talking about the good experiences that I've had. My one friend said, "Well, I'm gonna join," and she finally got a chance to. She took a while and maybe because she put her son through college and it was very expensive, but he's graduated now and she eventually joined.

The AC kept freezing up and wouldn't cool down the house. It took time for American Home Shield to process the paperwork. The AC unit was down for almost a month and the majority of it was just waiting on American Home Shield to go over the paperwork and allow Affordable Heating to come out and do the work. We're not the only ones out there to have to do claims and it's understandable. But it's miserable with the heat. When Affordable Heating came out, they found that the A-coil inside the unit was leaking and the wiring and had been chewed through. So, they replaced the A-coil and the wiring to the unit itself. It's working perfectly now. Their technician was awesome. He's very nice and professional. He did the work really quickly.

I moved from up north from Pennsylvania. Cumulatively, I've been using American Home Shield for about 19 years, on and off. Their claims process is easy and you can process the claims online. We made a claim when water was gushing out of our AC terribly. South Cooling was our contractor for this one and they were very timely in getting out here. They found a clog in the drain. I was very pleased with the contractor American Home Shield utilized.
We've had several problems here in the condominium and American Home Shield has stepped up to the plate. But one contractor was a know-it-all and said the dishwasher wasn't gonna be replaced. He ordered parts. It was just a big mess. The unit ended up getting replaced. Also, there is a communication breakdown sometimes between the contractors and American Home Shield. But for the most part, I've had very good success with them.
The only real problem lately is their customer service lines. It's because of this virus. I waited for four and a half hours the other day. And then my phone died so I didn't get through. I had to call them back for a recall on my icemaker. All these things have gone bad and, fortunately, the warranty is covering them. But when it rains, it pours. I was on the phone for three and a half hours yesterday till I finally got ahold of someone.
American Home Shield had problems before too, but they cleaned them up and you could get through really quick. And I really liked the feature that they have that you can go ahead and put your number in for a callback. That's a very nice feature and you don't have to listen to the same thing on hold over and over again. The only negative is sometimes you get overseas people in customer service and there's a language barrier. I've had a handful that are good but most of them, I wouldn't hire them. You're good if you get Tennessee where their corporate office is. But that's not guaranteed. Maybe about half the time you get the overseas people.
American Home Shield has a few warts but overall, I’m very pleased with the company. Despite everything that's gone down, I always got what I needed in the end. It always ends up that they work very well. I'm the company's biggest salesperson. I blow their horn all the time to people I know. I tell them, “If you have anything that's five years or older in your house, you might wanna consider American Home Shield.” And American Home Shield ought to sell it that way because what's out there now is made to throw away and break.

The time is now less and it seems like the dishes are coming out clean. That claim is completely finished. For the refrigerator, the guy came in and adjusted the thermostat on the freezer and other issues that it had. But it comes and goes. It's not because of the service provider but this is about the fourth time I called for the same thing. The problem hasn't been really corrected. It's tiring because it takes time and you have to wait for someone to come in. Once you call that for the same reason over and over, there should be something more to be done. But the process for submitting claim is efficient and easy to follow, and I'm very happy with American Home Shield.

Americare called to verify the appointment and then, they called an hour before they came. The gentleman inspected the washer and troubleshot. It came out to be a replacement of the tub, brackets and bearings. They didn't repair it and told me the repairs were gonna be over $1,000. AHS said that the contractor submitted a report to them that they couldn't find anything wrong, which was a lie, because Americare Appliance Repair sent me a copy of the report. AHS doesn't wanna fess up the money to replace it. Instead, they would rather repair it. They requested a second opinion so I'm still without a washer, which is very disappointing.

When the washer was spun, it banged really hard. And then, when I poured the liquid inside the little drawer for the detergent, it poured onto the floor from inside the machine. It was really weird. I don't know what the cause was, but both of those things were happening with the machine. I submitted the claim online. The website is fine but you can't explain anything if there were additional things going on. Before, when I used to be able to call in and request service, if there was more than one appliance or more than one thing needed, I was able to let Home Shield know at that one time. But you can't do that now. That's the only thing I don't like about the website.
The contractor, Active Appliance Service, was knowledgeable, very kind and thorough. The tech was able to figure out what the problem was. The machine has been leveled and I have not noticed anything dripping. The tech did not find the reason why the liquids just went down the floor like that so maybe because the washer was banging around when spinning. I really liked them. If I have any other appliance situation, I would like for them to come out even if it was the same guy. He was really nice. You feel a bit frustrated when your things break down, and he was fun and professional at the same time.

My air conditioning window unit was not working right and I didn't get any satisfaction until almost two weeks after I called it in. The one thing that I really hate about American Home Shield is that most of their reps are in the Philippines and while I love the people in the Philippines, I hate talking to them. I have PTSD and some hearing loss, and their accent just drives my PTSD crazy. I can't understand them and they keep repeating themselves. I cannot speak their language as well as they speak my language. But this is a business situation so I hated the people in the Philippines. Also, with some companies, when you get the Philippines, you can say you want an American rep and they transfer you. With these people, you can't. They only have that one line.
Second of all, I had three people promise me that they were gonna take care of something and that I'd hear something the next day but I did not. So I was about ready to cancel my membership. Most of the reps don't even know how to explain their process to me. I know it's not the reps' fault but it was horrible. The temperature in my house was 80 degrees, going on two weeks. Finally, somebody from America called me back and gave me permission to find my own subcontractor. But I had been so tired and busy with other things that I actually went out to use HomeAdvisor. I had researched good local contractors with them before and I got the permission to actually get one of those. But I'm still here with my air conditioner that's not working too well. So I'm probably going on three weeks now.
I used to do studies on the Sprint service center, the business office where people would call in and talk to customer service. Back then, if there was a problem, it would’ve been escalated right away but the people in the Philippines just didn't do that. The other thing with American Home Shield is that they don't have contractors in my area and then when South County came out for my furnace, I got hit with a trip charge. But it was kind of invisible because I still had the $100.
The issue with my furnace was that it wouldn't start and my neighbor who usually helps me came over. I thought maybe my pilot light had gone out but he thought it was worse than that. He said I needed to call someone smarter than him so I did. That was the first time I used American Home Shield. I got the little message online that I had been assigned to South County. Then the technician texted me right away but the only thing was that he couldn't come out right away and I was freezing to death. He was in training, which scared the hell out of me and he had to wait for the teacher to let them go. He said they usually let them go early. Then he had to drive down to Austin where his business was and pick up all of his equipment. Then he drove another hour down to my house. But he promised me he would be here that night and he was.
I'm kinda fussy and I was doubtful. I like to call my own people but that’s the disadvantage of having a home warranty. But this guy turned out to be knowledgeable and he was going for his certification. He was also very pleasant and kind. He went the extra mile. He said that we had wind the night before and if it blows out again, to call him and he would come and right it for free. So that was really stupendous.

We had a unit die last week and Maxair Heating & Cooling just installed a new unit. They came on Monday and determined that it was gonna have to be replaced. It was not fixable because I did not wanna pay for R22 due to the price. It was pointless to throw money away on the part. They came back on Tuesday and quoted for the replacement, what American Home Shield will pay and the upgraded system that I wanted. They came on Thursday and installed it.
How our American Home Shield works is you submit an online trouble ticket and pay the deductible. That's all you have to do. Everything else was handled through Maxair and American Home Shield. I didn't have to submit anything to American Home Shield. Maxair took care of that. They're great. Unfortunately, we've had two units die this year here. Last year when we first bought our house, we had a little bit of trouble. American Home Shield sent a different heating company who did fine. But Maxair has been sent to us probably 5 times now over the last 12 months because we had trouble with heat pumps. We had heating issues with our other big unit, and they were able to repair it first. Then it reached the point that the thing that died was too much. The part was more than the replacement. I probably encountered 7 employees at Maxair and they are all wonderful. We're from Florida so we're used to heating and cooling people and Maxair is probably one of the best companies that I encountered.
We had American Home Shield for 14 years in Florida and we also chose them here. We demanded American Home Shield even though they tried to sell us somebody else. We're a dedicated customer. We only had one issue with them and that was when we first moved here and sold our other home. It was getting them to cancel our previous policy because those homeowners didn't want it. I had a little bit of trouble with them. But when I finally got the right person, they handled it immediately and apologized for the issue. It wasn't a bad experience at all.
I've had a great experience with American Home Shield. They honor what they sell. I probably have the least complaints when my friends and I talk about home warranties. In the now 16 years that we've had them at more than one residence, I cannot file a complaint. I do not have anything even when they had that big of a lawsuit. I didn't understand what the people's problem was even. People need to read the paperwork they are given. If you don't read the paperwork and don't know what's covered, then it's your own fault.
Thanks for being a loyal customer and for sharing your experience with us. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

Appliance Solutions was here for our dryer on a couple of different occasions after we submitted a claim to AHS. They were the ones who were chosen by AHS to come out and do the service. My husband said that they seemed very knowledgeable. When they came out the first time, they identified some potential parts that needed to be replaced and we were gonna order them. Then we heard back from them saying that AHS decided that because of availability in parts, they were going to replace versus fix.
We haven't had a dryer for five weeks. It took a couple weeks to hear back from AHS to tell us the two options. But now, you just can't get appliances. We have one on order that will be here in another week. It’s been on order for a while. From what I understand, people can't get appliances either because they can't get them into the country fast enough or because so many people are doing home improvements. I have to call AHS again because Appliance Solutions should come out and hook up the new machine when we get it. The installation should be done by an approved vendor and that's the part I have to get figured out but I have full confidence that I would use them again.
The AHS website seems pretty easy to use. There's now a couple of times I haven't been able to log in but it was probably just website maintenance. Also, I was not able to get any status updates in terms of this dryer getting replaced versus being fixed. They just said the claim was closed so that was confusing. There was no other information there. It would have been nice to get more information there. I had to pick up the phone and call and wait on hold to get information. But the overall experience with AHS has been good. There's peace of mind knowing that in a situation like this, we saved a bunch of money instead of having to go replace something on our own.

A-US Air of Texas was amazing. They were in and out. The appointment and the technicians were wonderful. The AC froze. They looked at it and they said, "I had to go get a part." They came back and they fixed it. Everything is working extremely well since then. I work for a hospital, and new physicians get hired on and I've recommended American Home Shield several times. We like the ease of having it. My daughter is in Tyler, Texas and we're in San Antonio. She's a 21-year-old by herself, and so it's so much easier having the warranty. We can't drive just to go look at something ourselves. So, it's great to have this benefit. It helps my daughter. We can trust the people that go there. It's not gonna be sketchy and nothing's gonna happen to her.
AHS has fixed our washer as well. Any time we've ever had a problem, they go way above and beyond to help us, so we're extremely satisfied. We've got a rental house in San Antonio and then my house in San Antonio, we're thinking of getting American Home Shield for those two homes as well. Having Home Shield has been a blessing. It's like our own little handyman.

I've been a member of American Home Shield for about 15 years. They're not as good as they used to be. They're a little more expensive than they used to be and they find ways to not cover stuff. But overall, if one will ask me who to go with, American Home Shield is all I know. They're good. I'm in the car business and I know what warranty companies do to people. So, they're different. They may even be a little bit better than the average warranty company.
I do my claim with AHS online. You put your numbers in. It's good. You just go online, you put your contract number in, and then you see if you got your product that you're looking to get repaired is on there. If it is, you click it, and then they text you back with the company that's gonna come out. Then the company calls you, sets up an appointment and that's it. A week ago, AAA Action Garage Doors came out for an electrical issue. It was just a spring. They were very friendly, very polite and on time.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

Original Review: So after waiting over a month for a decision on replacing my refrigerator the first technician broke! The second technician confirmed my 5 year old refrigerator was damaged by the first technician and had to be replaced. I got a phone call this morning that management has chosen to believe the word of the first technician???. They said I could pay for a third opinion if I’d like! Umm they must be crazy! I immediately cancelled my policy and will be suing them in small claims court! AHS is the worst, incompetent company I’ve ever dealt with!

On June 10, 2020, we submitted a claim on our air conditioner which is not working correctly. It runs, and blows semi cool air from time to time, but our house hovers around 80° when the thermostat set below 70. We paid our service fee, and shortly after received a message that our contractor had been assigned and would call us within 24 hours to set up service.
24 hours came and went and our contractor did not reach out, so we called the number provided to get the ball rolling. It took another day, it the contractor finally came over and informed is that yes our ac needed work and really should be replaced because it is not Compatible with the new Freon And our furnace would need to be replaced then, too, because it is an old style that is not compatible with the new Freon, either. He said he needed to call the company and get approval and he was going to be out of town for a week, so it might be a few weeks. We were also headed out of town for a while, so this seemed acceptable to us. Approximately two weeks later, we returned from our trip, and contacted the contractor.
After many attempts to contact him, and him not returning a single call or message, we contacted American Home Shield on 6/30 in the middle of the afternoon. After waiting on hold for over 35 minutes to talk to someone, we finally got ahold of someone in customer service who let us know that our Contractor has not even filed his initial report to get approval to repair the air conditioner. We let them know how frustrated we were and that this has been going on for nearly 3 weeks at this point and could we get a new contractor sent out to take over so we could get the repair taken care of. We were told they had to reach out and try to get the original contractor to submit documents and give him 24 hours. I’d nothing happened in that 24 hour period, they would assign a new contractor.
At 3 pm the next day, July 1st, we called back as it had been over 24 hours and no one had called us back. We waited on hold for another 33 minutes, only to be hung up on during our call. Another call and another 30 minutes on hold and we got ahold of someone who tried to tell us we needed to wait another 24 hours. After much arguing we were told that a supervisor by the name of Alvin would call us Within the hour to see what we could work out. The phone did actually ring but it was the same person we had talked to before. She informed is that the escalation center could talk to us and we could go that route, but for some reason that would waive our ability to talk to her supervisor, Alvin. We chose to talk to escalation.
We were connected with a woman named Jocelyn. She apologized and said she would rectify the situation, but she needed 2 hours. We reluctantly gave her the two hours, but she did call back in the allotted time to inform us we had been approved to get a new contractor so she put in a request to have a new contractor for assigned but due to it being late, around 7:30 pm , it would be the next day, it Jocelyn assures is she would call around 7 or 8 am. At 8:30 we had not received a call back so we called back in to the company. They appear to have added an option to get a call back which is appreciated as opposed to sitting on hold.
About 20 minutes later someone Called us back. We gave them the run down and they looked into our account. They claim Jocelyn is On the phone with the contractor department and to give them some more time. We logged into our online account and do see that they have changed the status to waiting for a contractor to be assigned, but no luck getting any more progress. Would really like to get this resolved. It’s been Over 3 weeks since I Made the claim. It’s a shame because our first claim, for a leaking drain pipe was resolved quickly and to our satisfaction, but this has completely ruined our opinion of this business.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

We had someone come to my house because my ceiling fan started not to work all of a sudden. I thought it was gonna be so expensive. The tech came out and he said that it was really gone. He actually had one in and he was able to get me one and it was no cost to me. It was a win-win and it was wonderful. I've had this now for three years and it's running like a champ.
My granddaughter and her fiance and a brand-new baby had nowhere to go so they came in to live with me. Then the bill I got from the water company was three times what I'd usually do when it was just me. Home Shield had someone come out to check if there was a leak somewhere or something was happening 'cause I could keep hearing the water coming on. The guy checked the system and he even calculated how it would be three times the amount of water usage because there were now two other adults using the shower. But he was so nice and excellent. He was able to calculate it for me and it was okay. He also told me some things to try if it would be better.
Now, I tried to get hold of the people that put the Trane in for me before but I was never able to get a hold of him at all. So I called American Home Shield and we had a tech he came out. Then within 15 minutes, maybe tops 25 minutes, I had cold air. The technician from Air Pro was professional. He also wore his mask, which I wanted. He had to go on his back to get into the air purifier. My Trane was outside my house and he went in there and checked it all out. He said that there were just a few minor adjustments that he had to make. It came on and did beautifully until yesterday. It was very hot, and the AC was making all kinds of noise and it went up to 84. But when I turned it off completely, waited 20 minutes, and rebooted it, the air came on fine. I have multiple sclerosis. So, this air conditioning is a godsend for me.
It's just me here and I don't have anybody I can call to check things out. And now, I have this new family with me too and they know nothing and they're depending on me to know all of this. With American Home Shield, I have the experts. I've called them and I've never been disappointed. I recommend them to all my friends all the time.
Thanks for letting us know how everything worked out for you and thanks for recommending us. We look forward to helping you in the future. Take Care.

We have had bad experiences with the customer service from American Home Shield. From waiting for 50 minutes or more to speak to them to finding out the part has not been ordered and it’s been over 4 days... our AC has been down for almost a week. It’s hot/humid in our house (FL) and they mentioned it had to be 105 degrees F, for us to get any expedited service to include the AC part. They also hired a company that could not come for a few days after we called. I asked to speak with a manager who never returned the phone call. The lack of professionalism and urgency for customers with issues that affect their health and well-being is beyond disappointing. And yet....we are still waiting. I am a health care professional and would never treat patients in this manner.

The technician looked at it and said it was toast, that there was nothing they could do for me and that they couldn't get parts for it. So I guess they put the order in. Then American Home Shield called me. They had a variety of different models and I asked them what they would suggest as American Home Shield. I went with their recommendation and they set it up. It went to the company that came out. Two fells put it in and there were no problems at all. They were very nice, congenial guys. They asked me how I was doing and it kinda hit home. Everybody was protected too. They had a mask on. I had a mask on. We did everything the right way. They were wonderful.

The provider came out and it was great. They fixed the issue with the dryer and they were very professional. It's a whole different story with American Home Shield though. I'm glad they could help me on that case, but I've called in the past for other things and even though they say they’ll refund your money when they can't help you, they never do. You can call them back and they say they're going to refund it and still, they never do. On little stuff, they're good, but on the major problems, the stuff you need them on, that's where they fall short. That’s also where we have issues and that's where we have to either pay a lot because it's not covered, or we have to get somebody else 'cause either they can't do the work, it's too complicated or the provider they put out is not that great.
I've had American Home Shield for seven years. They have been helpful on certain things, like on the dryer issue, but we had a water problem, and it's fine that they couldn’t help. They just had to tell me that and they still charged me $75. I called them up for another water thing and they said they could get somebody out, and they couldn't get anybody. It was a major thing, so we had to call somebody anyway. We called American Home Shield and asked for a refund of the $75 since they couldn't get somebody out and there was another runaround for that. In both cases, it was never refunded. I contemplated about canceling them this year, but my husband's like, "What if something major does go?" because they have helped with the AC issues before.
The AC is a big deal and it could have been a big chunk of change, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Anytime it comes to plumbing or water (things you need somebody) though, they can't help you. It always happens on the worst day too, like a day they’re not in business or a holiday. American Home Shield says they can get providers but the fact is they can't. I live in a metropolitan area and it's very difficult for them to get people out on those times. Sometimes, we shake our heads. Now, my sister has a different experience, but I know of several other people that have almost the same experience that I've had with them. Either you get a good provider and you get lucky, or you don't get lucky.
If American Home Shield can't help me, then they should just say they can't help me. If they can't get the provider out (or when they get there, they say it's not covered) and we still have to pay $75 on top of the insurance we already pay, that's the biggest thing. There has got to be a better way of doing it. $75 is a big chunk of change for them not helping sometimes. I didn't mind the $75 on the dryer claim because they fixed the problem, but it was a minor one. Let's be real. I'm not rich, but I'm not poor. If the dryer did break, I could either get G & L (the provider that did the dryer) out, pay them myself and not pay that big insurance co-pay.
I don't know how much money I save with the insurance. With the $75-co-pay and with the insurance I pay, maybe I saved 50 bucks on that call, but I could buy a new dryer with all that money too. This year is one of those tipping years where I think I'm paying a whole lot out but I'm not getting a whole lot back. American Home Shield has been helpful in the past and I'll keep them for just that peace of mind if the AC goes again. Honestly though, it's a coin toss with them. If they would’ve just refunded my $75 when I didn't use them, or the appointment got cancelled or they couldn't help me, this would be different. I've had to go through multiple phone calls and they still didn't do what I asked. It’s those little things in customer service that make all the difference.
It's not that they had to cover me. It's how they treated me to get that coverage. If they were nice about it, they could either say they couldn't help me or they're not gonna charge me $75 until I use them. They used to have that policy when I first got them, but now it changed to where I have to pay up front. I don't like that because unfortunately, either they send out the wrong technicians, the providers can't fix the problem, or they can't get out in a timely manner. There's always a catch. The simple customer service thing of not charging you until you use the service would be a big difference in the star rating.

The guy who came for my air conditioner recently was wonderful. He was excellent and very professional. I felt so bad for him though. He was up in the attic, came home, his shirt was totally wet and soaked. But, he fixed my air conditioner. It was very good. However, when I was up in that bedroom the other day and the panel that he removed has all his dirty fingerprints on it. He probably didn't even realize that. But it's no big deal. I'll just paint over it.
Last year, I got a new air conditioner. That was great. It was through American Home Shield. They paid for my new air conditioner. When I got my air conditioner from a different company, it was not American Home Shield, they gave me a year warranty for labor and parts. My air conditioner went out. When I called the company who installed the air conditioner, they told me I had to go through American Home Shield. I said, “ Why do I need to do that? They're gonna charge me $75. You provided the air conditioner with a year warranty for labor, so why am I paying American Home Shield $75?” The girl said, “Well, that's just the way it is.” It was as hot as can be so I called American Home Shield and paid my $75 to them to have someone come out.

We were having a problem with our air conditioner and American Home Shield has been called five times on this same air conditioner. They did fine but it's so difficult for American Home Shield to get anyone out in 90 something degrees summer within a week. I have my real estate license, so I sell a lot of American Home Shield home warranties and if it hadn't been for our regional manager for American Home Shield, I wouldn't have gotten it done within eight days. That seemed ridiculous to have to wait that long when people are trying to survive in such hot weather. I’m paying a lot of money out and I have to wait a long time to get service.
Also, they just kept putting off replacing the AC unit. I've had them say they'd go get an air conditioner for the house before they'd replace one. One of my clients said that they were told that AHS would pay them to get a window air conditioner until they could get their unit fixed. AHS puts bandaids on when they need to just go ahead and replace it. And if there's just something wrong with it, that's fine that they can fix it quickly. But they fight everything to replace items and to kind of get the job done. Then sometimes, when the companies around that they've used eventually come out, they fix the problem. But the slowness of getting an appointment is still something they should improve on. All in all, people generally get a little bit discouraged with AHS. In fact, I know realtors who are changing over some other companies. But after I have eight years invested of money, I hate to change. I have been thinking about changing for my clients, though.

However, we are having a problem right now with the refrigerator. It’s between them paying off and then giving us the refrigerator that we had chosen. It's been absolutely a horrible, horrible experience. They got in contact with us one time but we have left countless messages to them and they don't return our phone calls. My wife has been calling them every day and staying 2-3 hours on the phone waiting to get somebody to respond. We asked for supervisors and managers but nobody gets back with us. We also wrote an email.
American Home Shield should improve their customer service. It's the worst. Between 1 and 10, I'd give them about a minus 3. They need to follow through with emails and calling people. Right now, we are in the limbo. It is awful having to be in the living room. The problem is also that they don't have communication between the other people that they work with. I have communicated with the vendors that we're supposed to get our refrigerators from. They had an earlier date to come out but then that didn't work with my schedule so they gave me another one. Still, they had a quick turnaround for coming out. Plus, the techs who came figured out what the issue was and gave me feedback on what was going on. I asked them some questions, they were nice and answered them. My AC functions very well now.

I had one toilet in particular that had gone from running intermittently for no reason to the tank not refilling. So, it was in bad shape. I had already called American Home Shield once before and a plumber came out. It was a very unsatisfactory and unproductive event. The plumber that was sent by American Shield was some private person with his business he runs with his son. The fellow looked at both of my toilets and said that they were off-brands and he didn't have the parts. Then, he gave me his business card and he spent more time trying to sell me on a popular toilet that he kept saying everybody wants. He said they had it at Home Depot and that he could replace them. That was a waste of time.
When I called AHS again, the rep got the appointment scheduled and paid attention when I specified that they should not send the last plumber because they were useless. And she didn’t. Jamie Parrish got assigned to the job and the person who came was extremely professional. He wore a mask, identified the problem and answered some of my questions. The representative went above and beyond and all the way. He pointed out to me that Gerber is a long-standing brand. He got right in his truck, he had the parts and he fixed it. He was very quick and I'm happy with them. The toilets are great and not wasting water anymore by intermittently running.

The tech from Wicker Installation was very courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. He was able to take care of the repair the same day. We also recently had a claim to get our air conditioner fixed. It was 83 and 86 in the house. However, we had to wait two days to get that fixed. I was not happy about waiting. The commercials on TV say that they come out all the time, but that was not the case. And with the heat of Texas, that was a very long time to wait.

There was a blockage and a leakage in the kitchen sink, and Amazing Plumbing came. The first day, the only guy came and he said he had to bring some other guy again. They came 2 days later with one other guy, cleaned the pipe and went. They thought it was fixed, but the leakage was still there beneath the disposal. I called back and they said I had to call American Home Shield for recall. I called and they sent them the message. Then they called me for an appointment. The same guy came and checked it out. He replaced the disposal and everything is working fine since then. In this case, American Home Shield gave perfect service and was timely. The only thing I don't like is too long waiting time. Whenever I call, I have to wait 45 minutes to 75 minutes before anybody picks up the phone.
I have another claim for my dryer. Sears came in the same day and the plumbing company came in the very next day. That was really fantastic. When the guy was leaving, I asked him what was wrong and he said the panel was shot. He also said he would send the details within 24 hours to Sears. Every day, I was on phone for 2 hours while they tried to connect Sears. I have about 30-plus hours on hold, and I keep on going back and forth. Everybody else tried to help me but I was calling everyday from the 25th till the 6th or the 7th and I was on the phone for more than 2 hours.
Finally, when I called last Thursday, the lady was fantastic. She said their Sears server is not connected with the American Home Shield server directly. She took care of me. I was on hold for 172 minutes again and finally, they picked up and they said the replacement was there. Now I'm waiting for the trucking company to call me to tell me when are they going to be delivering my washer. Other than the waiting time, American Home Shield is fantastic.

It's easy doing claims with American Home Shield. I'd like to call it in. They're normally pretty busy, so it takes some time to reach a representative. You can be on hold for an hour or a little more. As far as their contractors, I've never had any issues with anyone except for the people from KJ Mechanical that came out on Sunday. They were absolutely rude. I have never encountered someone like that in my entire life. The driver came into our driveway. So, my husband was waiting on him to receive him.
My husband was waiting for over 10 minutes and he was still in his truck. So, as he came out, my husband said, "Hey, it will be nice whenever you arrive to somebody's home, just to let them know. If you're busy, let them know that you have acknowledged them." He got out of his truck and he said, "Do you want me to service your equipment? Yes or no? Anyways, I'm out of here," and he left. He was very aggressive. We've never encountered that before. So we called the customer service to let them know, and we explained to them what happened. They said, "Oh, it doesn't matter. Get somebody else because we're a five-star company. And it doesn't matter what you say what you do, we always remain with our five-star." I said, "Oh my goodness, is that how you operate?" He said, "I will go ahead and let American Home Shield know that you guys have violated the COVID-19 clause."
I said, "How is it that we violated if we have to ask when the person comes to our home?" He said, "No, you can't say anything to them. You can't tell them anything." I said, "Okay, so how am I supposed to let them know where the unit is placed or what's wrong with the unit?" He said, "You tell them nothing." I said, "Oh my goodness, you guys are absolutely rude. I've never experienced something like this." He said, "Well, do whatever you want to do." I'll never use that company. I have never experienced something like this before, and I've used American Home Shield for a long time. I've used Sears before and we've never encountered something like this. So I was totally baffled. As far as AHS, I haven't had any issues with them. I let them know what happened.

Comfort Pros came out for two separate issues. The first of one was for the air conditioning upstairs. It was really hot on a 90-degree day and it was super humid up there. The air conditioner was doing nothing. So the tech came out and looked around it, added a couple of ounces of Freon, did a couple of tweaks and then he left. It seemed to work, so that was good. Then a couple of weeks later, the same guy came out for the evaporator pump. Apparently, it was clogged so instead of going into my drainage, the water was going on my floor so I had to put buckets. So he came out and fixed that. He was very friendly and professional. He wore his mask when he came in. I tend to be somewhat annoying 'cause I ask a lot of questions. But he answered all of them.
When submitting claims with American Home Shield online, you just pick a couple of things, answer a couple of questions, check off a couple of boxes and next thing you know, you've got a name and a phone number of a company that's gonna come out. Then I usually call them within 24 hours if I don't hear from them to schedule something. Everything is fine now. There's no more water leaking on my floor and the upstairs seems a little bit cooler. We could now sleep at night 'cause it wasn't really humid.

It took five weeks to get my AC fixed and it was the worst experience I've ever had to deal with. The tech from All Star was professional and good but Home Shield wasted time trying to get me a refurbished compressor for my AC unit and they sent the wrong compressor. That took three weeks and two weeks later, I finally get the right compressor. Also, my card got shut off and they called me up super quick to get their payment. But I had no idea what was going on throughout the process with my AC unit.
American Home Shield told me that my contractor had dropped the ball. I called the contractor up and he said Home Shield hasn't sent him the part and he was waiting on them to send it. They gave me the parts department and transferred me but nobody ever answered. I called 20 times and each time, I was on hold for a minimum of 40 minutes. They kept telling me it was gonna take 24 hours for them to get back to me but they never got back to me. It was awful. Home Shield is the worst company I’ve ever had to deal with. They take so long to get the service fixed and the whole being put on hold.

He was here right on time, was dressed professionally, and did a professional job.

We made multiple service requests and there was one for a faucet in our kitchen. We made it at the same time that we made the swamp coolers, and we still haven't gotten that dealt with. We finally have an appointment, but it has been several weeks. And then, we have a situation with a ceiling fan that was also made at the same time. The light wasn't working and the contractor said, "Oh well, I got two out of the three lights working. Is that good enough?" No, it isn't. We could've done that. And then, he wanted to order a light kit. He wrote in there that there was something missing, so then Home Shield didn't cover it. We also had something for a pool heater. Apparently, rodents had eaten something inside, but it's not covered, which is a very expensive not covered item. That's in the fine print. Unfortunately, we don't always know about all the fine print until something happened and there we are.
We have a swamp cooler. We requested for Tempal to come out because it was not working properly. There were two issues with it. The motherboard apparently was not running anymore. So, first Tempal had to order that and it took a while for that to come in, but the tech was very good about communicating with us during the wait. He told us at the time that he ordered it, that it would take a while because one of them was for another customer. But when it finally came in, he got that put in. And then he made an adjustment as well. It has a water line, because that's how it cooled, and he made an adjustment to that because there had been a bit of a leak. And it didn't appear that it was leaking anymore. But then it turned out, it leaked again so we ended up having to have him come back.
We just called him back and let him know that there was an issue. He looked it over and it turned out that we needed some kind of a valve float going on in there. He had to order that as well. He came back. It didn't take too long. He then replaced it and it was good. He did a good job. It took a little while but that wasn't anybody's fault. It's just things are slow right now with COVID.

My dryer wasn't drying. It was saying the drainage pump wasn't working. It would turn on for a few seconds for the cycle then it would stop. The little light that indicated the issue would flash, and it would stop. I filed the claim through the American Home Shield's website and it was easy to use. I didn't have any difficulty. The website said that I should expect to hear from somebody within was 24 to 48 hours. I got a phone call that same day to set up the actual appointment with the company that they contacted. It took about 5 days for them to come but the guy was very professional and did everything well. He fixed the problem so I was happy. I haven't had the same issue recur and my dryer's been functioning appropriately. It made my life easier because I couldn't do my laundry until it was fixed. American Home Shield took away the stress of the dryer breaking because I knew that I could contact them since it was a covered appliance under the plan that I had. I didn't have to worry about a huge expense popping up.

We live in two states. We own a property with our son in Oklahoma. Also, our son co-owns the home with us in Baton Rouge, which was where the problem happened with the air conditioning. We just made two or three payments on our account when the unit went down in our house. We have been with Home Shield for just a few short months, but when we called them, they replied promptly and were very polite. Lasseignes Heating & AC came out, made an inspection and filed their report. They took care of us very well. They put in even a better unit that was there to start with. They went above and beyond what they could have done so we're very pleased.
Home Shield was fast, polite and efficient. I would recommend them. I've seen on TV several new companies that are similar to theirs, but if I were recommending somebody to a friend I would go with Home Shield because they are well established and have the bugs worked out. Some of the newer companies may not be quite as settled. We were very pleased and our son was also.

If they could probably fix something like that in the future, that would be greatly appreciated. I had explained to the contractor back then when I was having the problem that I've been a customer for X amount of years and I figured there was some type of resolving it quicker.
Recently, Heros Plumbing came out for my hot water heater and toilet. Both my hot water heaters weren't working so the guy had put on both of them a thermocouple. He had also dismantled both of the toilets and fixed the leaks. I have no problem since. However, people might wanna be aware that each time they call in, there's gonna be a service fee of $75. When I first started with American Home Shield, a service call could’ve been up to 3 items. But now it's just for 1 item. I guess that's how they do their policies now.

I've been with American Home Shield about three or four years and right now, it’s not good at all. I called in my claim to American Home Shield and nobody was answering the phone. The last couple of times I called, I had to wait an hour and I had to put it on speaker. It's getting worse and I know they have a center but that’s the biggest problem with AHS. They need to start answering their phone because it's pathetic that you have to wait that long on the phone to get a service. So you feel kinda sour because you gotta go through all that. It's bad. Everybody doesn't have the internet and cell phones so they need to get more people onto that. You don't have customer service and it just goes down the drain with me. So, they need to get it together. $75 every month is coming out of me and I don't use them that much. So, I can find another company, give them a try and see how they do with me.
At first, I was upset with the guy who was the manager of South Belt AC. I don't like people telling me they're gonna come a day and don't come or even call and tell you the reason why they're not coming. So, I had to get on them about that. If you're not coming today and if the part didn't come in, you should give your customer a courtesy call. Communication is the key to anything. Ron was supposed to come another day and he didn't come, and I ended up calling him. He took care of me. So, he knows I like good customer service and the only thing I ask is for a phone call.

I had a good experience with Mr. Plumber. This is my second time with Mr. Plumber because I had another issue prior. The job isn't over yet. He's supposed to be coming back to fix one of the issues that were ongoing. There were three issues he came here for. He fixed two of them. Not really to his fault because it's a part thing and with the whole COVID thing going on, stores aren't open and things are hard to get. But the guy's a professional. He knows what he's doing. He's been doing it for a while.
When I put in a claim with AHS, I go online. It's fairly straightforward. Their contract in general is also not difficult to read. It's very basic so I appreciate that. However, when I had an issue in the bathroom and there was a plumber I had come by and he was like, “I can go through the wall, the tile and fix it all up, but I'm not sure if it covers it.” I was like, “Let's wait and see if it's covered.” It turned out it wasn't covered. But in defense of American Home Shield, he called them to find out and then they reached out to me almost immediately by sending me an email just to let me know that it wasn't covered and that if I have questions, to call them.

We have been with AHS for over 5 years I'm embarrassed to say and they have the worst contractors and the worst customer service. I think I've gotten only 2 good reps on the phone and they were fixing problems. We're in the middle of a work order now in which parts have been ordered in June and it's July now and the contractor is saying they can't find parts at all but they won't call us or update us unless we call to find out the status. I finally got so frustrated because my dad is 76 years old and our toilets aren't working and I called AHS and told them to fix the problem because the contractor said we may need new toilets. Instead we get transferred twice, hung up on and told to "keep our ears open" for the contractor to call us on the update for the parts when we specifically said they're not updating us at all.
AHS doesn't screen these contractors because they don't have any pride in their work. They're having to return to complete the job that should've been done in the initial visit. When you complain and give feedback no one can't be reading these complaints because nothing changes. When you do a work order these same contractors' names come right back up.

If I could give them zero stars I would. I have spent 6 hours within the past week trying to get a resolution on my evaporator cooler. If you read their information on this site is says there is "no limit" on AC and heating coverage - that's a lie. What they don't tell you is that they have numerous "exclusions", which is essentially everything. My first call, 2 hours, could not properly explain exactly what my out of pocket charges of $2339.00 was for and would not provide an itemized list. Was promised a call back by the end of the day. That was last Friday. My second call, another 2 hours, was this past Monday. The customer service rep had absolutely no clue what he was talking about. He also first quoted me $2339.00, but after I pushed him as to what these were for, it miraculously changed to only $195.00 out of pocket.
I then pushed as to why I would be charged a second service fee of $106.39 because I already paid one service fee for the same issue and it had not been resolved. By the end of the call I owed nothing. He kept putting me on hold in between. I then requested an email confirming this. He said he could not, he would update it on my account and then put me on hold and then I was disconnected. My third call, another 2 hours, was Tuesday. I demanded to speak to a manager, who I was denied. Ruth, the customer service rep, just kept repeating the same scripted answers to my questions and we were back to me owing $2339.00 out of pocket. At least this time she was somewhat able to explain that it was because the contractor had quoted that the repair needed a "modification" and a permit and they don't cover those.
I demanded to speak with a supervisor. After being put on hold multiple times I was promised that Supervisor Melds would call me back in 5-30 minutes. That was 2 days ago. So, here I am hoping that *someone* from AHS will see this message and have someone, a manager....who can actually make decisions and not just regurgitate scripted answers to me..and not from their call center....call me back and get my work order approved so our air conditioning can be fixed.

I have had the same AHS policy in place for five years. We finally filed claim on a refrigerator that went out on May 26. Paid $100 upon filing service request online. Technician came out in 48 hours and condemned the refrigerator as unfixable. Online the request was showing completed. I heard nothing for 10 days. Called AHS, was on hold one hour 8 minutes, only to be told I would have to speak to purchasing dept which was closed. Called next day, on hold one hour 12 minutes waiting for purchasing to say the options on refrigerator would be emailed to me, once I decide it would be 10-14 days for payment. I choose to buy my own unit since we needed a refrigerator. Emailed and faxed purchase invoice for reimbursement on June 11. It is July 2, on hold over an hour still nothing on other end, and still no reimbursement.

I have service calls for a washer and oven outstanding, I placed the request to fix the washer over 6 weeks ago and it's still not repaired. If I log in to the website it says that I need to call AHS to speak with them about replacement. Why do I have to sit on hold for hours on end to just be cut off when you could just call me, isn't that easier? It seems like they are trying to get out of their contractual obligation to replace the appliances. I'm extremely disappointed with the customer service experience. Would not recommend you waste your money with them.

I usually never do negative reviews but this time it’s completely warranted. Fully paid Home Warranty. Never filed a claim and then my refrigerator goes out. Easy process to file a claim with AHS then things get VERY hard. 1st assigned contractor doesn’t show and won’t answer calls. AHS can’t be reached and no way to provide feedback of the posted status online. 3 1/2 hours on hold and am told they will reassign a new contractor. 2nd contractor comes out and say he can’t fix it but will keep my claim open. Closes the claim and then it's closed by AHS. New claim for the 3rd time of for the same broken fridge. 3rd contractor comes out and says he doesn’t really work of Samsung but he will try and replace something to see if it helps. Again, no way to update or apprise AHS of the situation.
2 weeks later a different tech comes out, states he does not know the issues but will replace the part anyway. Does not work and then says he will keep the service ticket open. He closes it and AHS closes the ticket again. 3 hours online and they open a new ticket with the same contractor who just came out and could not fix the issues.
All in all, I’m out my full paid yearly dues, plus the initial 125 for a service call. My refrigerator has been out for over 28 days and I can’t even speak to anyone at AHS to tell me how much more of this I need to endure. I considering legal proceedings if this keeps going. If you look at their Facebook page or Twitter account and see the posted that are initially hidden you will see literally hundreds of very recent complaints just like mine. CONSIDER yourself Warned.

6 months after my home purchase I started to get a small shock from a water spicket. I opened a claim and had an electrician come out. They claimed the cause was a missing ground rod outside at the main panel and some other parts within the subpanel inside the home. AHS says since parts are supposedly missing the service is not covered which is understandable. However, the home has a ground wire running to something buried in the ground so that part is not missing (perhaps not sufficient?).
Also, I feel the vendor was wrong about the root cause of the issue and called American Home Shield to explain but got nowhere. If the problem is the ground rod which affects the whole house then how come my issue is localized at only one place and not at all outlets and other spickets? I feel the right call by AHS would have been to send someone out for a second opinion given my concerns. I will just get the issue fixed on my own as I already wasted 75$ for what was essentially a normally free estimate.
