American Home Shield is nice and they do send people out. I like that they provide opportunities to cover pretty much anything in the house. It's the extended option of making sure everything's covered. The vendors have been good. For the plumbing issue, it was fixed. The only thing I have a concern with American Home Shield is if we have an issue, there's always an exception. It was another electric company that came out. The chain broke and the little dots came out. My mother's 82 years old and she isn't pulling on it in a huge way. They said it was excessive force on pulling it, so they were not gonna cover it. They nitpick on the small things, and they make it really hard to get things fixed when it should just be simply covered.
The company gave me a quote and said, "For $300, we'll fix it all, but we can't fix it under this." It doesn't make sense to me. I'm not using American Home Shield to make more money. I'm using American Home Shield because I pay 75 bucks for one contract and 60 for another and if something breaks and it's in the thing to be covered, I want it fixed. But there's some reason why they couldn't fix it when in reality, they should just fix it and it's not like it's a lot of money to fix it.
American Home Shield is probably great for things that are large that cost a lot of money such an air conditioner or a heater or an appliance that goes out. Even that though, I've now been without my dryer for 3 weeks because the belt was bad. They had to order the belt. Then they couldn't schedule the repair until they get the belt in. But they do as little as possible instead of just fixing the problem. It will probably save everybody a lot of money if they just fix the problem, and they'd have better customers. It's very agitating. I depend on them to fix my problems that they say they have it covered, but they always have an excuse. Unless it's a big thing that has to be replaced, it's usually a problem to get it done. But it's worth it because you wanna make sure your large appliances are covered.
When I had an issue with the guy with the fan thing to do the second opinion, it took 3 days for them to call me back. The manager called me back. He said he would put it in the note. I waited but nobody called. I called them and they said there were no notes that a manager said they were gonna do it so they couldn't do it. But they were very nice and did do it without the manager's notes. But it shouldn't be that complicated.

I was confused. We thought the issue was with the air conditioner. But a company suggested I have my duct cleaned. I went online and the claim was for ducts cleaning. Then Airmax came and said they came for the air conditioning. I thought they were going to do the ducts. They checked the air conditioner and I don't know if they solved the issue but the air conditioner is running. It's not putting out the air that we thought it should but there's nothing on Airmax's part. They were fine. However, I was trying to call because I paid $75 for a service call to have my air ducts cleaned. The Airmax tech said that's not what they do though. But then I just threw my hands up. I'm not even gonna try to fool with it. This is the first time we've had issues with American Home Shield. They've been very responsive and understanding any time I've called. So I don't have a complaint at all as far as the service that they provide.

I have a friend that uses American Home Shield and she recommended it. So, I went with her opinion. I signed up in May and it was available in June. Submitting a claim was very easy. I went online and did everything. Wooley Plumbing’s service was wonderful and very professional. The rep was a very nice gentleman. There was a part that he had to get and he came back the next day and put it in.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

My son-in-law and daughter had American Home Shield and it sounded like a good idea. They gave me the telephone number so we called and signed up. For my claims, I called American Home Shield’s 1-800 number and talked to somebody over the phone. The person who came out and worked on my dishwasher had been out here before, before I got connected with American Home Shield. He was good and he knew what he was doing. He fixed my dishwasher and it's working just fine.
The other guy who worked on my refrigerator seemed to be okay and he didn’t have to order any parts. It's a refrigerator that has an icemaker on it and about once a month, like clockwork, it would leak on the floor. The man who came out said that there was a line stopped up somewhere and I assumed that he unstopped it and cleaned it out but the problem has come back. So evidently, that was not the solution to the problem and I don't know what was. Still, I’m satisfied with AHS.

I have had American Home Shield for over three years. I only had two claims so far. The first claim, I had a couple of challenges but it was because of having someone coming into the house. Due to the pandemic, there were a couple of challenges. On the other hand, the second claim was very successful. I had an issue with an attic fan a couple weeks ago and the claim was handled well. The company came the next day and they replaced it.

Being a part of American Home Shield has been excellent. My in-laws recently bought a house and they had insurance, and we were talking about how it worked. My wife and I were thinking about being in our house for such a long time and some of the things in there being dated, we thought it was a good investment. American Home Shield is who my in-laws have. I had also contacted some Realtor friends that I have and they recommended it as well.
I had a leaky valve under my toilet, so Reliable Plumbing came and replaced it. I did the claim online, and I had no issues with American Home Shield's website. They told me the contractor would be calling me within the next 24 hours, and I got a call before the end of the day, and then we scheduled an appointment for the following day. They were excellent. They came in with masks on and stayed distant from me. They did their work very quickly and I was happy with the result.

AHS was recommended by a friend and they have good ratings. When I submit a claim, I do it by phone. The service has been very helpful but I had to wait a long time to get to somebody. But then the person was willing to do the recall for the air and then I put it in a different claim, and he was able to do both at the same time. So I didn't have to call back a second time. The experience with the recent claim was good as well.
I am glad to hear all of your experiences have been pleasant. We look forward to a strong business relationship with you.

We were having some trouble with the burner and the oven on our standalone range. I went online and scheduled for the following day. Then, I got a follow-up call to confirm it and Whirlpool came out and took care of it. Everything works great and it has helped with preparing food. Overall, American Home Shield was efficient and they remedied the problem.

I've had Home Shield for a while. I'm in Texas now and I had them when I was in Missouri. So, when I came down here, I contacted them again after I had been here for years. I've been with them for a little while. Recently, I could not get anybody to answer the phone because I'm being billed for another claim that they didn't do anything. I was told the trade service fee would be waived, but it wasn't. I was on hold for two hours trying to get some assistance on that.
I was on the phone on hold for over an hour so they said log into the website. But when you log into that, you can't even get a live chat. And then, the call said waiting for operator. And I've been on that for 45 minutes. So, I'm not happy with Home Shield at that time. They slipped me over to the Philippines so I ended up hanging up on that. It was a complete nightmare. But regarding A to Z Electric's visit, it was an excellent one. I had two claims at the same time and those were excellent. We had a storm and my circuit breaker wasn't working. The tech fixed it and it didn't take him any time to do it. He was very pleasant and professional. I was well-satisfied with the A to Z.

Last summer, the air conditioner went out and when we checked the unit, it was frozen. Every summer, I ask Mr. Jimmy to do our AC, but this time, American Home Shield sent out a different company and the guy wanted to try to charge me several hundred dollars to put a fluid in. He wanted me to pay him upfront for it and he hasn't even identified what the issue was or been able to tell me whether or not that was going to solve my issue. I told him no. After a back and forth with American Home Shield, they finally sent Mr. Jimmy out. He said that there was a leak but I also needed a new condenser. He came out, repaired the unit and it worked. I had to wait a few days for the part and then there had been another issue.
American Home Shield wanted to send back the other person and I told them absolutely not. Mr. Jimmy didn’t come back out because he goes to visit his mother once a year and this was the time he also went to go visit his mother. It was a really hot day and we ended up suffering through it, but when he came back, he fixed my unit. Recently, the air stopped again and when my son heard it, he thought it was an earthquake because his bed is right below the air conditioning unit. The blades inside the fan broke off and they were clanging against the housing.
The unit was not working. It was summertime and when I called Mr. Jimmy, I checked to see with him if he was visiting his mom because I didn't want things happening like last time. He said that this year, he wasn’t gonna visit his mom because of the coronavirus. He then came out, fixed the unit and I haven’t had any complaints. Mr. Jimmy has been been very responsive and professional. He is able to identify the issue and get back to me very quickly as well.
I have two properties. One in South Carolina and the other one in Georgia. I usually call American Home Shield and it takes me around the world and back again through automated pressing zeros and pressing zeros. I eventually get someone, but I feel like I could pull my hair out with American Home Shield in Georgia. I'm really disappointed with them and I'm ready to go to Choice or somebody else because it's horrible. If I do an order in Charleston, it's only $75. In Atlanta, it's $100 and when the service people come out, they're either gonna rip you off or they're going to lie to you to your face.
It's gonna take me at least three service calls on the average to fix something as well. Although they have fixed my daughter's air conditioner in the property in Atlanta, there's a washing machine there and I've had Home Shield send out five technicians for it. It's now after two years and it’s still not fixed. My daughter comes over here to wash, but I'm so mad about the money and I'm so determined to make American Home Shield pay for it. That's $500 that I've spent when I could have added another $300 to it and just bought her another unit. Also, I live 30 minutes from her and with the COVID-19, I have to go up by her area to buy it. I can't even buy it from where I am.
Here’s another example of American Home Shield. I have a Samsung washer and dryer that was not turning anymore. Instead of replacing it, they were determined to fix it. They rebuilt the drum and this took me six months. It was ridiculous. When they sent me the new drum, it got delivered to my house and I didn't open it 'cause what was I gonna do with it? I put it in my office and I left it there till they were ready to schedule someone. When American Home Shield sent someone out, they then said, “Oh, this is what I have to do? Put this drum in?" One person has to hold the drum and the other person has to do whatever is required. The guy said he couldn't do it by himself and we had to reschedule until one other person could come out.
When people then came to put the drum in, they found it was dented. They had to order a new drum and reschedule again. The new drum came out and once again, I had to wait for them to get two people together. Mind you, when I issued the complaint, the installer said there were 20 homes in my subdivision that had the same exact issue. Once I started doing more research, I realized that there were a bunch of lawsuits against Samsung for the very issue. Anyway, the unit was fixed. That was three years ago, and I haven't had an issue since.

Shop around. There are a lot of companies out there, so make sure you like where you're going. I had American Home Shield earlier. When I first bought this house, I had another and a year's coverage was included in the purchase price. When it was time for me to renew, and since I had been with American Home Shield, I went with them. One time, our toilet wasn't functioning. I made a service order online and the website was okay. It said they would contact with me in a couple of days. After that, the contractor came out and at first, they said it wasn't covered. They then came back about an hour later and said it was. I don't know what that was all about and I wasn't happy with that. Still, our toilet got fixed and now, it's working just fine.

I've been a Home Shield member for 26 years. I was renting and under the homeowner's contract. And when I bought my home, I continued with Home Shield. General Electric was for the washer. They came and do what they were supposed to do. However, Home Shield's phone lines are terrible. They need to revamp the phone lines because you can be on hold all day long. And then when they're off duty, the recording comes on and tells you their work hours. But I went through another number to get to where I'm supposed to be, to talk about the washer. And to me, the young man did not explain it thoroughly.
He gave me a model number and how much Home Shield would pay up to. And anything beyond that, I have to pay. I understand that. But I asked which option is better because I don't know. He said he can't tell me so I just chose buying the washer and submitting for reimbursement. But to me, it sounds like the first option is probably better. He was talking too fast and at this point, I was frustrated because of those stupid phone lines. I actually like Home Shield, other than getting to speak with a human being is terrible.

A month ago, our dryer broke and we called Home Shield. They said it would be 24-48 hours until service technician showed up. It was 8 before they did and when they did, they said we needed a new part and it would be 3-4 days. It has been 17 days since then and we cannot get ahold of anyone at the dryer company or at home shield. Home shield customer service has said for 6 days now that their managers are in meetings and will call us back the next day, but we never get a phone call. This is the most pathetic customer service I have ever received and I have no way of fixing it because no one ever calls me back. This is ridiculous.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for many years. While we have had some decent experiences I need to share two of the worst. A few years back, our heating unit went out in the middle of winter. We had just had a baby and we were without heat in Wisconsin for several months. They offered to buy us a portable heater. Luckily, our house has a pellet stove so we were able to stay fairly warm but it took MONTHS and a lot of complaining and phone time to get them to follow through with what is stated in the contract! I thought this might be a one time occurrence... Boy was I wrong.
Now, it is our A/C unit. We are currently in one of the longest heat waves here in Wisconsin. We have two small children and an elderly dog that is really suffering from the heat. We have had to stay at friends and families houses as it is just unbearable. We requested service on June 24 and had a contractor immediately assigned. He came quickly and recommended to AHS that the unit needed to be replaced. AHS contacted them and said no - just to patch the issue. I then contacted AHS to argue with their decision and she said she would set-up an appointment for a second opinion. That was June 30.
Since then I have spent multiple hours on the phone (3 times Ive been on hold at least 2 hours) with several different "reps", sent messages on Facebook, and have been promised a call back with in 24 hours. Not one single returned phone call. I have tried explaining that there are not a lot of contractors in our area that work with AHS (wonder why...) and that is why they may be experiencing issues finding a second opinion. But no one is listening or doing anything about it. I even had one rep tell me that they don't even have air conditioning in their country, downplaying my concern. I was really upset with her attitude and lack of compassion. I have held up my end of the contract by paying my month bill. It is now time for AHS to do the same. I am beyond disheartened by this company, their lack of follow through, and down right terrible business practices. I would not recommend this company or any of its subsidiaries to ANYONE!

In the past we have had a very good experience with AHS but not lately. When trying to call I was on hold for 45 minutes one time and a hour and a half another. I hung up because I had other things I needed to do. I emailed and never got a response. Currently we need our dishwasher replaced and our A/C is not working. They are replacing the dishwasher but are unable to find someone in this area to install it. When we find someone we are submit an estimate of cost before they can deliver. Again, communication is my concern. We submitted a request for the A/C and two days later it has still not been sent out for a company to come out. In the past we have had a great experience with this company. Everyone they have sent out has been great. We have an elderly person of 82 in our home and I am very concerned about how long it is going to take to get the A/C repaired.

I put in a service request to AHS for pool heater, pool filter and pool plumbing repair. It was one contractor that was assigned to perform all repairs and my $100.00 service fee was paid. They sent an electrical company to perform the work. He was able to fix the valve on the heater. Eventually, after 1 1/2 months and many phone calls he was able to replace the pool filter. But... he never addressed the issue with the pool plumbing that had an air leak that caused air to be injected into the pool thru the jets. He in fact made the pool plumbing worse. He did not properly install the filter to the existing PVC piping. The new filter was appx 5-6 inches taller than the old one and he just lifted the existing plumbing AND the pool motor off the cement pad they are supposed to be resting on. He shoved a piece of plastic under the appx 10 pound motor to "support" it.
Since the plumbing is no longer supported and adjusted to fit the new filter, the entire PVC pool plumbing shakes and vibrates when the motor is running. I had to put a couple of bricks under some of the PVC pipes to try and stabilize it. The filter is not level nor is the motor or plumbing. A proper install would have required the plumbing to be refitted and adjusted to the height of the new filter. It is all very unstable and unsafe. I contacted AHS and instead of sending out a plumber or someone with experience with pool plumbing, they sent out another electrician!
Well, he reported back to AHS that it is mechanically sound. AHS declined my repair to fix the pool plumbing that the first contractor #1-did not address and #2- made much worse by not properly installing the pool filter...Plus they want to charge me another 100.00 service charge for the electrician that came out and said it was fine. (when I was told there was to be no charge) Why are they sending an electrician to do plumbing? He knew nothing about plumbing.
On AHS web page they state that they use licensed contractors. No licensed plumbing contractor would ever do what that first electrician did when he installed my pool filter. No licensed plumber would have said that the plumbing was "mechanically sound". If someone has a plumbing problem, AHS should sent a licensed plumber. I'm a licensed registered nurse.... that does not make me licensed or qualified to do accounting, or plumbing or roofing or brain surgery. My license is specific to the job I am qualified and licensed to do.
Do not send an electrician to do something that a licensed plumber is qualified and supposed to do. It is usually an hour wait to talk to someone on the phone at AHS. They do not call you back or follow thru with answers. I've called at least 10 times. Shame on them for taking advantage of their customers that pay them every month. Shame on them for not sending qualified, licensed contractors to perform work up to industry standards.
Bette,

The techs wound up replacing our garbage disposal's trash compactor as there was a gap that was causing the leak. Now we can use our sink again. For the most part, we've had a good working relationship with Home Shield. I understand there are fewer and fewer things that are covered so there are times when I'm thinking I'm gonna pay 75 bucks and I paid several hundred dollars out-of-pocket because something wasn't covered. So, I've been sadly disappointed a couple of times. But any time that their contractors have come out, they have done a great job with whoever has been assigned.

We recently bought a house with a pool and we noticed a leak near the pump. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and that was really fast. The issue is when I need to call customer service as I'm on hold for a while with them. When I speak to somebody though, they have been very helpful and do everything they can to get my issue resolved. For my pool claim, they sent S & G Pools and Spas to do service. Everything was covered.
We've had four or five issues already and every one has been resolved with AHS's service provider. A previous air conditioner problem we had took two visits to figure out and for our pool situation, we needed AHS's contractor to come out again. Still, the pool people were phenomenal. We were also having some trouble with our pool chemicals and they helped us sort them out on the spot. I would prefer that AHS makes it more clear upon getting their home warranty that customers cannot choose their own vendor. When I spoke to their agent, I had the understanding that I would be able to. Then, when I went to choose my own vendor, AHS said that was not an option. Other than this issue, things have been fine. Recently, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online for a condenser issue. Their contractor Air Pro Master came and it was a fairly quick resolution.

I had a problem with my toilet and it was handled very professionally. High Priority Plumbing was on time and they resolved the issue. I had another claim with American Home Shield. It seemed like all of my toilets were starting to break down at once. Initially, I was a little concerned because I was told by one of the technicians that the repair had to be completely broken before they would replace or repair it. I was like, "Well, I'm paying you a fee each month and your technician is telling me that it's tearing up, but it hasn't completely torn up." They can't do anything until it's completely torn up. So, I asked them for my $100 fee to have High Priority to come out, and they did reimburse me.
Since that time, I've used them again, and they've lived up to what they said they would. I took it up the ladder to their complaint area, and they reimbursed me my $100 fee to have High Priority come out. But they told me on a going-forward basis that if I hear noises, that's not a part of the claim. So, they need to re-look at that. If I'm paying my 49.99 a month and I'm paying $100 claim for them to come out here, I don't expect them to come out and tell me, "Well, I see it's tearing up, but I can't do anything until it's completely torn up." That makes no sense to me.

I recommended some people to American Home Shield and the good thing is that you appreciate the business and for their professionalism. I haven't had a problem, not one time. Every time I've called to set up appointment, they were there. One time, the air conditioner unit stopped blowing and when I spoke with someone to set up an appointment to have someone come look at it, the whole process went well. Even the contractors that came out, they were a great help. They ran everything to test the unit and everything came back okay. They explained everything to me and they looked at the thermostat and said that that was the problem. They changed that and now, I have air, so I'm happy.

We called Home Shield and processed our claim online, and then the contractor came out and did the work like we always do. The website was all right. There's not enough choices for you to describe what's going wrong with the problem though. It just says, "Washing machine, working, not working," something. Of course, there's no way to describe that the things connected at the wall were broken and different things like that. You just have to put something generic, and then when the contractor comes about the problem, they don't have with them what they need because they didn't know what was wrong to begin with. And then, they have to come back.
I've submitted a claim online and I've done another on the phone. I know everybody's busy, but you would be on the phone about an hour and a half waiting for somebody to pick up. Extremely long. I've not been happy with Home Shield at all. They say the contractor would come out in 24 hours. I personally made a claim on a washing machine last Thursday. Finally, someone came Tuesday, he said he had to order parts, and because of the COVID and all that, it may be 10 to 15 days. So that's nearly three weeks turnaround somebody fixing the problem that you call in for, and I'm not happy at all with the whole thing.
Water's Edge Plumbing put new connections, and we already had the hoses on the hot and cold water for the washing machine. The hoses had corroded on there, and when they tried to take them off, it broke off the water connections. The tech did a good job. The washing machine is working well now. They fixed it. However, they're not good workers at all.
Our claim on our washing machine, they've already fixed it three times. I told Home Shield, "Don't send them again." And the rep said, after being on the phone almost an hour to talk to somebody about I didn't want them to come again, that's the only vendor they have in our area. I said, "As big a town as Midland and Odessa is, y'all have nobody but this company?" And she replied, "No, ma'am, we don't." I said, "Y'all need to get some more vendors. Y'all need to get better choices. These people don't answer your calls." She told me to try to call them and see if I can set up appointments. But I've left messages Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday. They would not call me back. I've told Home Shield to not send that contractor for our house again, and yet signed us up for them again.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I call American Home Shield and tell them what's wrong and they send someone out. The only problem I have is I usually have to wait an hour to get them to answer. Once I'm able to get through, it's fine. They give me their number and I give them my number, then I get a call usually the day after. One time, they had Advanced Home & Commercial Services come for the air conditioning. With my oven, it took 12 times for someone to come out until they finally said I needed a new unit. The last person that came out made it worse. Before, we could open the door, it wasn't making noises and we could use the ovens.
The only thing that we couldn't do was clean them, but now, we can't even use it. It's making a buzzing sound and we can't open the bottom oven. It is a big pain. I called American Home Shield and told them about it, but they said they weren't sending anyone back because I was getting a new oven. However, they don't know that the company said it would take five weeks. They can't come out until August the 10th to install it. It's a very long time, but I already paid for it. They had to order the new unit and I had to pay for it for them to do that. Apart from that, American Home Shield has been fine.

I called American Home Shield and they called Quality Services. Then, Quality Services called me and set up the appointment at my convenience. When the tech came out, he said that I needed a new ice cube maker. So, he put a new one in. But it’s still not working, so he's coming out again tomorrow and I hope that this time, they can figure out why it’s not working. I'd like to have some ice with my water. Other than that, Quality Services was wonderful and awesome. I was also satisfied with American Home Shield. They were very friendly and professional. As long as I'm breathing, I'm always gonna have AHS on my house. I love the warranty and I'd tell others to get it as well.

Pro-Lock did the rekey and everything went well. The tech worked quickly. She was knowledgeable and respectful. I had someone look at my washer and dryer yesterday. The person told me that I'm missing a cord. Somehow in the move, a cord was not attached. So we had to stop from there and I wasted money because the American Home Shield policy wouldn't cover the cord. But the appliance people that came were great. If I had to use them again in years ahead, I would. But as far as what was needed, it wasn't resolved because of the situation. I didn't know what the problem was until they looked over it. Other than that, American Home Shield was so efficient. When I asked for service, it was almost that same day or the next morning for it to be settled and scheduled. So that sounds wonderful to me.

I couldn't open the garage door from the opener that's on the wall. The remote openers wouldn't do it. Sometimes it'd go halfway up and then stop, then it would go halfway up again and stop. Sometimes it would take me a while before I could get it to go all the way up. It had been going on for a while, so I said something was wrong here. I called AHS to submit a claim. The rep did a good job and took care of what I needed to be taken care of. They got back with me pretty quickly via text message on who was gonna be coming out and their phone numbers and scheduling the appointment. They did pretty well. The contractors did a good job too. They called and they gave me a window as to when to expect them. I have two cars. He made sure that everything was working, and it was working from the cars, the wall and the remote. The repair made it more superior and it made it much easier to exit and come back to the house.

We've been having the worst time with American Home Shield. We are senior citizens and we have been suffering for weeks in this heat but no one has helped us. I’ve been with American Home Shield since 2005 but I'm ready to call Channel 10 On Your Side now. I've been sweating since June. We don't have any air here.
Brandon, the young guy from Air Max, came out on the 24th. He said there was a slow leak and I said I know. It has been leaking since 2009. I own a duplex – 2030 and 2028 – and he put two pounds of R-22 Freon in both units. But initially, he wouldn’t even do anything until I gave my credit card. He said he would have to take my credit card before he would start working. I knew he was gonna need Freon but he didn't have any equipment. I asked what he was charging me for. When I gave my credit card, he wrote down $230 on my credit card. So my invoice for the 24th says that I was charged with two pounds of R-22.
He was gonna have his manager come back the next day and when Robert came out, he said that I need a new compressor. He said that he was gonna sit in his car and call American Home Shield right then so that I can get a new compressor. He also put some Freon in 2030. But then Air Max said they're not coming back out anymore. I asked why not and they said it was because they had gotten a call from somebody. I asked who called. We didn't call. They were told by somebody that Air Fast had worked on my AC last. I asked when Air Fast was coming and Air Max said they had already called American Home Shield and that they were going to transfer it back to Air Fast.
Also, when Brandon came out on the 24th, he had put down, "Slow charger. Slow leaks. R-22. Unit price 150. Amount 230. Total amount service 230." But when Robert came, he crossed that off. I also told Robert that I had given Brandon my credit card and he said, "You did?" I showed it to him and I looked at my checking account. It said pending so I told Robert I didn't know why Brandon did that. He said he didn't know either but that he was gonna make a note. Brandon also wrote on my invoice that if I have any issues about the leak, they would not charge me if the work is done within 80 days. It was signed by Robert, the owner.
I talked to American Home Shield nine times. I also have a total of 34 invoices and notes referring to my air condition at 2028 and 2030 with American Home Shield. They’re all for the same issue – a slow leak. Every time they come out here, they charge us for Freon. American Home Shield has been doing it since 2009. I googled it and it says Freon lasts for a lifetime. You don’t have to be buying it every year. I told the contractor that I had googled it but he said he told American Home Shield and they were told to put a Band-Aid on it. I even lost a tenant because of American Home Shield. It took them three months to fix the tenant's air. They refused to fix it and then they sent me an apology letter saying they were sorry and that they did see that it was in contract. The tenant didn't pay rent for three months because she had no air.
I got a call this morning from American Home Shield and I was on hold for 45 minutes. My cell phone says, "American Home Shield, one hour and 34 seconds." The lady told me that Air Fast cannot come back to my home unless I agree to pay $117 and some Freon. She said that they got a work order from Air Fast and that they cannot find the parts that’s needed for my air conditioning. I asked what they're gonna do in the meantime and she said they were gonna do research. I asked if she wasn't going to call me and she said no but she was gonna let me know that I would need $170 to pay for some Freon so when American Home Shield finds the part or when the contractor comes back out, I won't pay $117. So I called Air Fast myself and spoke to Jeremy. I asked what the problem was and he said their phones had been down for three days. I said, "You don't have an email? You'll don’t have a cell phone?”
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

I filed a claim for the refrigerator ice maker through my American Home Shield warranty and they were the ones who booked the appointment. The contractor asked me if he could come in that day within 30 minutes or so and he did. He checked the refrigerator and said it needed to be replaced. He also said that they needed to be okayed by the home warranty. He called me up about a day or two days and said he got the approval. He came with the ice maker. I did not have any problem with these people but I'm supposed to call them today because the ice maker is making ice, but it's dripping water nonstop.
I got American Home Shield because it's under the National Association of Realtors. Their customer service is good. The contractor is punctual. But sometimes, you don't expect perfect. I'm completely satisfied with the policy but I'm looking for another home warranty because they increased my premium. Their per call charge is also high.

I don't know where I would be without them. We've been here close to two years now and I've had my AC go out three separate times. My well went out, and I had my dishwasher go out too. It went out twice and American Home Shield handled all those situations perfectly. They're spot on with what they do. When we call, within that evening or the next day, we'll get a callback from American Home Shield saying that they've got somebody on the way. The first time my AC went out, the guy put Freon in and the second time, they had to replace the control board in the unit upstairs. On the third time, they wound up finding the leak, fixing it and putting more Freon in. It's $75 each week, and that ain't bad at all. When my well wasn't working, they had McCrary Pump & Electric come out here. It was the control box that’s in here at the well and the guy wound up doing something and he got it back working.

I'm an agent and when I talk about home warranties with clients, they always go, "Am I spending too much money? Am I gonna get worth out of it?" With the money saved on the HVAC, it has paid for our home warranty for the whole year. I made three claims during COVID - plumbing, dishwasher and HVAC. I would have been out of pocket a few thousand dollars if I hadn't had American Home Shield.
Recently, my AC was blowing hot air and the fan wasn't moving on the outside of the unit. I spoke to them on Saturday and scheduled the appointment for Monday. They called me at 8 AM Monday morning to confirm and they kind of acted like I didn't have an appointment. They said, "Okay, we're gonna schedule you for today." I said I already had an appointment scheduled for some time today on Saturday. They put me on hold. They called me back and said I had between 10:00 and 2:00. 1:30 comes around and there was nobody. I called them and they said they were working on it. 3 o’clock rolls around and there was nothing. I called back and at 4:15 and they told me that they wouldn't get anybody out that day.
I reached out to Jen who is my sales rep. Any time I have an issue, I'm a brat and I call her. She works her magic and makes it all happen for me. She got on right on top of it. Within 30 minutes, they called me back and they had somebody else. His name was Jeremy. He came out and he was amazing. He fixed me up and was quick and efficient. He was safe with all of the PPE equipment. I have already referred him out to one of my clients. I told him I will save his number and I will be calling him anytime I have a client who has an AC issue. I was definitely satisfied with the experience.

The air conditioner was working but there was a lot of water dripping from a drainage pipe and all around the unit. Apparently, the drainage pipe was clogged and not draining appropriately causing that excess backup of water. The first company, Comfort Air, came in and didn't fully diagnose it. They drilled it and rigged it. Whatever they did didn't work and the air conditioner stopped working within 24 hours. I was dissatisfied with them and I will never use them ever again. They were horrible.
American Team came out and they did a good job. They were knowledgeable and I got no problem with them. They diagnosed the issue and fixed it. They had the parts on the truck. I also showed them what the first company did and they cleaned up the first company's mess and fixed that as well. Everything is functioning now. Whenever I call American Home Shield for that air conditioner, I will always ask for American Team. If they send me the other company, I will refuse.
I wouldn't recommend Comfort Air to anybody but I would highly recommend American Team. As far as American Home Shield go, I've had them for many years and I've used them for many repairs. Some of which they came in was an easy fix and some where things had to be replaced. I have no problem with American Home Shield. They do a great job and I'm very glad I have them. There was water under my floor. I had to pay for somebody to come and help soak this water up. I got a carpet man that soaked it up. He told me my water heater was busted. I called American Home Shield and they said I had to go to this plumbing thing. When I called them, they were talking about $550. When Prime Plumbing Services was gonna come out, I had already bought a water heater. They were gonna come out a week later and I had already went out seven days without water. I told American Home Shield, “Could I just basically buy my own water heater and get somebody else to do it?” They said I could.
I called them and told them that I went to Home Depot. I bought the part. I called another gas company out to make sure that it was my water heater. They verified it was my water heater that went out. So then, I called them back while I had a lot of gas right here, and then I told them the part was wrong. So then I got another gas to see if they can put the part on. They said the part was bad. So then I called Home Depot and told them with the water heater I bought, I was still not getting hot water. They told me the part was bad, so then I called my home warranty and then they gave me Rain's number. Rain told me that I had to order this part. Then they were gonna take a week. I told them I couldn’t keep going like this with no water.
Finally, they overnighted it. Then the part was no good. I called a plumber again and I said, “Okay. Let me call another gas person” because I told him I had smelled some leak then I started smelling a leak. I called another gas. I called Rain back and they tried to tell him this and that. This man told them, “I’ve been doing this for five years. That part is bad” because he could not light it. I called Home Depot and told them all the problems I was having, so Home Depot told me to bring the water heater back. I had to call a plumber here again to uninstall it and then take it to Home Depot to reinstall it. I had to get up every day and drive 30 miles one way just to take a shower. It’s too hot to go without taking a shower. I went through a lot. AHS told me they couldn’t reimburse me for the water heater because it wasn’t in the contract. I still had to pay 550, but I didn’t want to wait so they didn’t want to reimburse me the whole 550. $150 is the max they’ll do.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

When I put in my initial request for a service repair, I receive a response within 24 hours. However, the contracting agency usually does not respond within 72 hours of their appointment. I don't know if they have customers ahead of me, which I am not gonna gripe about ‘cause everybody needs their stuff fixed. But it just takes longer than I would expect. Then if they have to order a part, it's another week or two. However, when these contractors come, they were really proficient in getting the job done. The service call here didn't get finished until a month later although I was okay with it because the guy that came out explained to me. He had to order a part and then he said he'd be back in the next week. When that time came, they called a day or two ahead and said they hadn't received the part. They kept me in the loop. The first time Brick Street Plumbing came out, the guy looked at the leak and said that the faucet needed to be changed. The garbage disposal apparently was leaking and that needed to be changed too. He said, "AHS won’t approve your brand so we're gonna get the simple brand there is." I said, "That's fine. Whatever AHS allows, just get that and fix the problem." It had caused so much leak that we had additional damages to take care of, and I wanted to get that damage out. He said he was coming back so I didn't look for any sheet that said what he did. I thought once he completed the job, he would give me that.
He came back after the weekend and installed the faucet and fixed the garbage disposal. But there were three other toilets that were leaking. He went upstairs and said it was just a change of flap. He installed three new flaps. He never came to sign any sheet. The other guy had come in for a small problem with the refrigerator but he had me sign off on his work. This guy just left. I called their office and complained that he wasn't following the protocols. He didn't have any mask on and hadn't signed any afterwork or showed me whether the thing now works.
All the toilets were not even working. He said that he fixed it but nothing was fixed. The leak stopped, but it had a new problem. It wouldn't even flush, like it was locked. There was no water coming out. Essentially, three of those toilets can't be used. There was one half-bath toilet that everybody had to use. Then the faucet that he had installed wasn't getting hot water. Only one-sided cold water was working. I had to tell the first plumbing guy to come back in again. After a couple of days, they sent a new technician who was very professional. He had his mask on and fixed everything that the guy had left undone. He fixed the toilets again. He fixed the faucet again, and now it started to work as intended. It was not a great experience with Brick Street, but ultimately, the second technician who came out really did good and completed it.
AHS has been pretty responsive. When I have issues, I just go online, pay my $100 copay and put what problems I have. Then the contractor calls me and they schedule a time for fixing it. I have to be on the line for almost an hour before I could talk to an AHS agent but once I talk to them, they are very friendly, forthcoming and helpful. They try to resolve my issue. I've been with AHS for a long time and I'm happy with them. They're not the greatest out there because some of the contractors that they've chosen are not performing to their best, but it's pretty decent. When I first had gotten them and we had a major issue with our hot water heater, they had been extremely helpful. They allowed me to have an emergency contractor come out at 2:00 in the morning and resolve the issue. That was why I have been loyal to them. That was my first experience and it went so well. I just paid my copay and they covered everything.

They should add a comment field that goes to the contractor. Recently, our freezers had frozen water and the contractor sent by AHS identified the problem. He made sure it was covered on his end before he replaced a part and it was. He had the part needed in his truck and he fixed my issue right away. I love the service. I purchased this house four years ago and these have to be the original toilets. I was hoping to get a new toilet because the toilets are old, but since he was able to just repair it, I'm fine with that. At another time, a guy came and tried to repair my dishwasher and he wasn't able to fix it. It wasn't his fault though. It was an old dishwasher and it took him a while to notify AHS that I needed a new dishwasher. As soon as they found out I needed a new one, they had a replacement out here.
It’s super important to have a home warranty because if I had to do the repairs that I had AHS do, I wouldn't have been able to do them. Whenever I call in to the support center though, it’s a long wait. If they had an app, that would be better. If they have an option where we can cancel online, that would be better as well instead of having to wait for somebody to cancel a dispatch request. There were a couple of times where I needed to cancel, but I had to call them and cancel and the whole time was too long. Still, it's better to pay AHS that little fee to have whatever I needed done, and it's not multiple fees. When I had my dishwasher done, I had my dryer done too because it just so happened to break around the same time. It was just one fee, so it’s worth having.

But they said he couldn't come back because he was finished. It took another four days and then he came.
When the technician came back, he checked the washer and said the issue was the tub. So they asked for that piece and then they told me to call them after two weeks because they never call me back. He said that there were no parts for my machine and that they couldn't repair it. Then somebody from American Home Shield called me and told me to buy a new washer and just send the receipts and that I would get reimbursed. I've already sent everything on email but I haven't received any response.
I didn't want to keep on going to the washers because of the COVID. That was a risk. So I wanted a washer right away. But it took almost four weeks. Initially, I did the claim on the 28th and American Home Shield didn't have anything until the 10th of July. I had to wait another four days for the guy to come back and then it was another two weeks before American Home Shield told me that I could get a new washer. But I like the coverage because my mom has it and she's never had a problem. I think it was just the contractor.

At first, I had some challenges submitting claims and I was not sure if it was because I created a wrong account. For some reason, AHS had me under a Realtor so it was difficult to figure out how to submit my claim request or order request online. But once I was able to figure that out, it was pretty seamless. The Gibson Air Conditioning contractor was great. They showed up earlier than when they said they would. The guy gave great customer service and he listened to my concerns. I liked him. He was able to pinpoint the issue of just replacing a capacitor and he gave my AC a look over and said that they were great machines. I've been able to save money with American Home Shield, and more so than anything, is the peace of mind.

Dave and Sons Plumbing was excellent. I've used them a few times over the past couple years and I prefer using them whenever I can. They always take good care of me. My tenant is happy with their work and I am as well. I have had American Home Shield for quite some time. I was going to switch to another service, but their customer service team worked with me to give me a one free time credit to use for one of the services for my house.
I had an older program and missed the update of the program. I had an issue and the issue wasn't covered under the program that I had for years, but it was covered under the new program. I had to go through some rigmarole to get that fixed. They finally did adjust it though it took a while. I was okay and didn't wanna go through trying to change it. If I have an issue with one of the vendors, they'll either send someone else out or try to work with me to fix it. I do recommend American Home Shield to my friends when they ask me what service I'm using. The only problem I have is the long wait time to get someone on the phone.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield is super easy. We had American Home Shield in Mississippi as well, and the response time here in Virginia Beach is so much quicker. When our fridge wasn't getting cold enough, they sent The Fridge Guy after we submitted a claim. That refrigerator guy is amazing. We would highly recommend him over and over again. We always recommend American Home Shield.

Since I bought the house in November, I've had American Home Shield. It was pretty simple when I made a claim with them. I spoke with a very good representative. They sent John Hudgins Plumbing out. I ended up having some really weird heating issues where the heat was inconsistent and the contractor had to check it. They said there was an issue with the water heater. It was leaking. From the time I made the claim until everything was fixed, about a week passed. I was pretty pleased with how everything turned out. American Home Shield and the water heater company were quick. American Home Shield was able to answer all my questions and any concerns that I had so they were pretty good.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

The plumbing people American Home Shield has on their list are not very good. They need to look more into who they contract with as far as plumbers go ‘cause I have not had good experience in the last week. They can’t just hire some random people to put on their taskforce. They went ahead and assigned me a plumber so that was who I had to wait for to call, which I don’t feel like that should have been a thing. They should’ve given me a list of a few that I could review myself. If you have a leak in your house and you need a plumber, you can’t wait 24 hours for somebody to get ahold of you. The last time when I filed a claim, I ended up calling my own people because the last 2 people that I tried to use through American Home Shield were not very good at all. I spent $100 for no reason because they misdiagnosed what was wrong and I ended up spending my own money on something different.
I’ve had both services before and if it was about the house and appliances, I would tell everybody to do American Home Shield. I had claims for home appliances and the process was super easy, super quick, and awesome. But with the experience I’ve had with the plumbing and the water lines, absolutely not. I would tell them to just cover the appliances with American Home Shield.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

Then we waited six to eight hours to make sure ice was being made but nothing came out. So, we called them again. We requested for somebody different, but the same guy came and checked the ice maker. He said that he was not sure about what was going on so he changed a valve. But I told him again that water was not coming out but he ignored it. He ordered another part and said that I had to wait for five to seven business days and he would just let us know. But it has been about 10 days now and he hasn't come back. Air Dynasty was fine. It was American Home Shield that wouldn't cover anything. The AC wasn't cooling and when Air Dynasty came out, they went up in the attic and said they needed to replace everything. But they said they could add refrigerant although American Home Shield won't cover it unless they replace everything. Then American Home Shield said they're not responsible for the replacing. So my out of expense would be $1380 to fix the AC plus the $100 that I sent to them. I ended up paying $480 for the refrigerant that will last through the summer and I'll fix it later. American Home Shield is a joke. I would certainly avoid those guys.
I just had the coverage for one year to try it out and when it expired, I did not renew. I had another air conditioning unit go out and the guy said it was being covered. But they were using refurbished parts at Wharton and they said it would be two weeks before the part would come in. I live in Houston so the middle of summer is hot and I wouldn't have air until the refurbished part comes in. I ended up paying out of my own pocket, calling the company back and having them put the new unit in. So I think American Home Shield is an absolute fraud. You pay them $100 and they send somebody out but it's some sort of racket because then the contractors write the reports up and then American Home Shield denies them. They don't replace anything.
I also had a water heater that went out in the fall. American Home Shield sent somebody out and said it has to be replaced. The lady from American Home Shield called and said she would tell me what they do have and then I can fix the water heater myself and they would reimburse me. So I went and did it. But then they denied my claim saying that the water heater had water damage so it wasn't their responsibility. Go figure.

JC Appliance did something to my washing machine. They fixed it to where it’ll go to all the different cycles. Initially, if you go to the heavy duty and bulk cycles, it’ll act like it’ll spin on one and then it’ll cut off. Then my hot water wouldn't come on. It wouldn't do hot water. When I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I said that my cycles wouldn't change. I did the claim online, and I didn't like the online process because I didn't understand what they were asking me. They asked, “What's wrong with it?” I didn't know what was wrong.
The website doesn't have a switch where you can say, “Okay, this is wrong. This is wrong. This is wrong.” It has a list of stuff, but you have to type in what you wanna say. I tried to have three claims be open but only one of them was allowed. For one of them, I had to find my own vendor and I'm still having a hard time. The pool company that came out, J&J Pools, tried to rip American Home Shield off. The technician came out, walked up to the spa side and said, "Yup. Outside spa. Can't do it. We don't work on those." But I had sent pictures of the spa motors, inside and outside, to their company. I asked the technician why he came if he wouldn't work and he said he couldn't get the $100 any other way. It was ridiculous but it's even more amazing that the guy could be so stupid to tell me that. I don't like fraud. Not that it was gonna cost me any more money but it really pisses me off. I spent time on the phone with the owner of J&J and told them about it, and they apologized.
Then after almost two hours of waiting, I spoke to American Home Shield. They sent somebody else out and when the guy came out, there was no problem. I bought the house in November and because of COVID, we hadn't been here. When we came here, the house had been sitting for so long that a lot of the things weren't working well. I wasn't familiar with the aboveground spa so the technician showed me something and we paid the $75. Then I got bills from American Home Shield that they wanted 75 additional for the second call to come out when it was a recall. But it was resolved.
There's also a problem with Allstate Plumbing. The plumbing thing was just fixed a few days ago and the call was probably more than a month old. I can hardly wait to see what my water bill's gonna be like on the month of my shower leaking. A young kid initially came out and he seemed very nice and professional. He changed a valve but maybe 40 minutes after he left, when the pipes filled with water, it leaked again. He came back and changed parts again but it leaked again. Then when it leaked, it went down through my ceiling down to my downstairs right below the shower. He told me it was gonna cost me 400 and something dollars because they have to come break the shower apart. I was not sure why he was breaking it apart but I told him he can access it through the drywall. He said if that was the case, it would only be $200.
I asked what he was gonna do and he said he was gonna change the valve. But I told them not to change the valve. It's a brand new valve. He had changed it two weeks prior. He said he was told it needed to be changed. I said his guy was not giving him good information. As for the amount they needed out of my pocket, the reason was that American Home Shield rejected any future claims on this because they said it exceeded the limit.
There's a serious problem here. As it turned out, they sent their supervisor, Roberto, out with new fixtures, handles and faucets for the shower. But they sent him with the wrong kind. But it took him less than five minutes to solve the problem. He said the kid that came out put the valve in cockeyed and when he tightened it, it straightened itself out and destroyed the rubber washer. That's why it was continually leaking. But why did it leak through the floor? The guy on the phone said it couldn't be related. But the house has been sitting here and it had never leaked through my ceiling until their guy left. I had a bubble and the water burst all over the floor.
The guy said that the kid didn't know what he was doing. You're was supposed to do something called burp the line and let the water out of the faucet so that when you take the valve out of the shower, water doesn't continually come back up. So once he had the valve out, all the water in the pipes leaked through the floor, through the drywall and down to my downstairs. All the kid had to do was turn the water faucet on in the sinks in the same bathroom and it wouldn't have done that. So Roberto was gonna go give the kid a lesson when he got back to the office and they're supposedly sending somebody out to repair the drywall damage, paint and fix the faucets with no additional parts without me paying $400 and without them billing American Home Shield another $200.
Roberto from Allstate Plumbing is top-shelf. He fixed the problem. But they sent the kid out three prior times – two times to make installations and there was nothing left for him to replace. There's a cartridge and there's a valve. Those are all there is. So when that didn't work, he must have realized that he did something wrong. He's spent to try to delay it or diffuse it. Roberto was sent up to change the fixtures but the handles don't cause leaks and they didn't need to be replaced. They weren't replaced and the problem is now finally gone after a month.
So unless we're vigilant as consumers, companies are gonna take advantage of people like this – not only the homeowners but also American Home Shield. This was a tiny drip in the shower, initially. It was worse after the kid came. That's why I tried to complain but I couldn't get anybody to talk to and when I got somebody, I explained and they said they would call me back but they never did. I was very dissatisfied because of that.
I've used American Home Shield and HSA. I guess they’re the same now but for a very long time and I don't know if this is COVID but no one answers the phone. It's taken two hours at times to get through and it doesn't matter what options you press. I tried to get really creative to see if I can get the wrong department to respond to me. That didn't work. I wrote emails to the privacy department. Nobody responded. I got a survey and I asked for them to contact me three weeks ago. I got an email saying that I'll be contacted but nobody did.

We requested plumbing services for our home about a month ago. A plumbing company was sent out to look at the issues (2 leaking outdoor faucets, 1 broken bathtub knob in guest bath, and leak coming from master bath into kitchen). The plumber proceeded to tell me that he was unable to fix anything and actually made the guest bath worse by completely breaking the knob off and cut two holes in our kitchen ceiling to tell us that our master bath drain was leaking but he didn't know how to fix it. He told us that he needed to contact AHS to see what was able to be covered/fixed, which we have never had this happen before.
The plumber has always come out, fixed the issue and done! The plumbing company forgot to submit the info to AHS for multiple days then marked the request as complete. We have been on the phone with AHS more than a dozen times and all they keep telling us is an email has been sent to contractor relations. We have been told 3x now that a supervisor will call us within 24 hours. No one has called. I have used AHS for other properties but never have I had the complete misfortune to experience the lack of just basic Customer Service I continue to receive under my current home warranty contract. I am beyond frustrated trying to directly contact someone who could even pretend to care if my air conditioning repairs are resolved. I have been completely without any air conditioning for the past 5-1/2 days. It has been 97-99 deg in Houston on the coolest day and I was informed by your Customer Service rep that “AHS does not consider it a health emergency unless temperatures EXCEED 120degrees”!?! I only received this much information because I took initiative to make EIGHT phone calls to try and get status for my service repair request.
Each time I’ve called, I am forced to remain on HOLD no less than 40-45minutes before a person ever picks up. To add insult to injury, reps place me on hold to check status after taking all my account/contact info, only to disconnect the call and NEVER considerate enough to call me back so I’m forced to start this frustrating process over again. I’ve paid this contract for 2 years and never needed to use service until now. May as well not have contract since I’m unable to get any service!

After spending at least two hours on hold back and forth I called for a service call in the morning and didn't have any problems. I was contacted by the plumber immediately and received a work order from the company. The plumber said they were told to fix only one faucet and I had requested that 2 faucets would be fixed. She said contact the company which I did. After more than 30 minutes on hold I got a customer service person and after being on hold several more times I was told that this service was not covered. I read the contract to her and said under the plumbing headline I did not see where this service was not covered. After several more holds she read another section of the contract that said it was not covered even though the faucet is attached to the house it is not considered a household repair.
What a colossal wasted of time. I have not abused this service in the past and was quite disappointed in their response. I am going to pay for the work out of my own pocket. What is the point of having American Home Shield if it does not certain services due to some wording in the contract or a loophole such as if the faucet was inside it would be covered. Perhaps people should not tell the whole truth when requesting a service or have an attorney read the contract.

Updated on 07/10/2020: They send out contractors that do everything they can not to replace an item. We had initial Company come out that said our air conditioning unit was crushed prior to that a contractor did come out to stop the leak from our ceiling from the air furnace and said that the coils were collapsing on each other from the air conditioner and that’s what’s causing Bennette the issue with the air-conditioning unit. Air conditioner is 32 years old.
We had a second HVAC company come out that we paid for, gave them no information but they reported it was normal wear and tear as well. Now American Home Shield sent out a second opinion and I said the same thing that the first person said that the Coils have been damaged not that it’s 32 years old and it’s normal wear and tear but that is how American Home Shield will get away not paying for the air-conditioning unit. It’s interesting that two people non-biased came up with the same information but those working for the company did not. I would go with either first American home warranty Company or a different home warranty company because this is just out of hand that they go to this extreme to keep from repairing appliances.
Original Review: No matter what time of the day or night I call I am placed on hold for a minimum of 30 minutes. Once the call is answered then I can speak with our agents outside of the United States primarily in the Philippines. One incident that I’m dealing with right now is for a leaking air furnace that is leaking because the air conditioning unit is faulty. It is causing thousands of dollars worth of damage and I cannot get through to anyone to help me rectify the situation. Another incident involved my electrical. American Home Shield is aware that the company made notes if they had to come out and change light switches and a circuit breaker but they never returned and I can’t get anyone to fix this problem. Now they want me to pay another service for you to get them to come back out.

We had American Home Shield previously at our old house and it was okay, not great but okay. Our realtors bought us a year of home warranty through them for our new house. We recently had an issue with our septic tank having a clog and backing into our toilets and bathtubs. This issue happened on a Sunday afternoon at like 4 and after my husband tried to fix it for like an hour with no luck, we decided to put in a request for service hoping to get it resolved the next day. Until it was resolved we were not able to flush toilets, run water, or take a shower.
I called at 8am the next morning to the contractor assigned who told me that they couldn't come until Wednesday afternoon. I tried calling American Home Shield and said it was over an hour wait without the ability to leave a number and get a call back. I decided to find my own person to come out that day and pay out of pocket to do the work since I wanted to be able to flush toilets and shower over the next two days. I called American Home Shield again to try to inform them to give me a refund for my service fee since I was not using their contractor. Again it said it would be an hour wait and after being on hold for about 25 minutes, I gave up and tried to reach out to them via Facebook messenger and Twitter. By Wednesday, I had not received any response from them, so I called again to get another hour wait time and waited on hold for the full hour to talk to a person.
After telling them the situation and they verified that a contractor did not come out, they agreed to provide a refund for the service fee. Fast forward a week later and just now they are getting back to me on messenger and Twitter. I have also not received the refund to my account yet. I would never choose them to be our home warranty company again and in a couple months when our contract is up with them, we will absolutely not be renewing. I would not recommend them to anyone!

I would give AHS now instead of 1 star, I would give them 3 stars. Within a day or two after writing my bad review, an American Home Shield Consumer Affairs representative named Kim really came through for me. She read through my problems I had with my water heater replacement, was very apologetic and asked for a copy of my invoice of the work completed even though I was never able to get approval to complete the work. Kim was very quick to respond and even got approval to get some of the money back of the replacement cost. Now it was about half of what the repair had cost but considering I thought I would be out everything this was a nice solution and I accepted the offer.

First time I had to use them on the house I live in they completely failed me. Every time you call, be prepared to be on hold for at least 40 minutes or longer. None of their contractors would come out to my house to fix my water heater and valves. AHS gave me permission to get an outside contractor on my own. Well here's the catch, the plumber has to call an authorization number to get approval to do the work and you CANNOT REACH ANYONE AT THE AUTHORIZATION NUMBER. Plumber that came out and agreed to call was on hold for 2 HOURS exactly before the call dropped.
When I called AHS customer service for desperate help (ON HOLD FOR 45 MIN) they said there was nothing they could do and the plumber will just have to keep trying that number and maybe calling at another time will be better. NO PLUMBER WILL STAY ON HOLD FOR HOURS FOR ONE JOB!!! So I had 2 choices. Pay for a new water heater and valves out of pocket or no water/water leaking all over the garage due to busted water heater and shut off valves that finally failed.
Complete waste of money having this home warranty that I pay for monthly as they will not help you and now I'm out an extra $2,800 because I COULDN'T REACH ANYONE FOR AUTHORIZATION!!! DO NOT USE THIS WARRANTY COMPANY!! I'm calling to cancel today. I'd bet money I'll be on hold for over an hour this time, they won't give me my service fee $$ back even though they did nothing for me, and they will charge me $$ to cancel. This has been a money scam. The people running this company should be ashamed of themselves! I'm not surprised that several plumbing companies I called to do the work refused to be involved with a home warranty company even if I was the one paying them.

I had positive experience with AHS with smaller appliances like a microwave or stove range. Unfortunately, when the water heater leaked and needed replacement the experience turned to be extremely hard. AHS couldn't assign a plumber for a week - so we had no other way but to try and hire our own. Here the experience became even harder. Their process requires a lot of contact with the customer service and authorization desk to get approvals - unfortunately the only way to contact them is by phone with ridiculous wait times - close to an hour. Sometimes when I call early in the morning the system offers to call me back, but even then the agents sometime drop the call without calling back, and most of the times I need to just hold the line.
I've spent more than a dozen hours already on the phone with them over the last weeks, and my contractor just gave up on them, so I am starting the process afresh. I have my job to do - but I am wasting a lot of time waiting on the phone. We haven't had hot water in weeks. Hard not to come to the conclusion that AHS makes the process intentionally hard for costlier appliances to wear the customers down. Will be looking for another home warranty company unless AHS customer services substantially improves - that's their only product and unfortunately it's nearly unusable when I need it most.

The representative was able to follow up on my issue and help get it resolved. Also showed me an option to use chat to contact them. While I haven't used it yet to see how good it is, I am going to try that next time, if I need to call. One complaint I still have though is that there is still not an easy option to setup a callback, or get support via email. I hope they will add that option so minimize the long waits on phone.

I had to get a microwave repaired under warranty and the technician confirmed that it is something that cannot be repaired, and hence will need a replacement. They gave me a choice of model and told me to call a number and tell them when I have done measurements and made sure that the model they offered will fit in the place. Well that's it, I am one phone for a total of 3+ hours now waiting for their "busy" customer service agent to answer the call. And there is no option to setup a call back or even say I accepted their offer by emailing or even an automated website. This is the absolute worse I have seen with any customer service call. I would recommend staying away from this warranty company for just this reason alone.

I had some outlets in my living room and in my dining room area that had lost power. Alsup Electric came out and the technician fixed it. All of the outlets worked. He did a awesome job. But there was another company that came out to work on the dishwasher and initially, we asked them to come to look at the refrigerator and the dishwasher at the same time. But they only looked at the dishwasher. Then they came out a second time when we told them that the dishes were still not clean. The same person came out and inspected, and he did not look at the refrigerator again. He said that was not part of his scope but on paper, it said the refrigerator was.
So the refrigerator claim is still outstanding, even though we've paid the price to have someone come out and even though the claim has been on there twice. American Home Shield said the company would do it but the company told me that apparently, they do not do that. So there's some disconnect with who American Home Shield is hiring to do maintenance work. If the company puts it on their website that they do that kind of work but when they bring someone out, they don't do it, that's something that American Home has to revisit. For the dishwasher, the technician said that they needed to order a couple of parts in order to make it work. So we've been waiting to hear back from American Home to see when the company is gonna come back to do that or if and when the correct part has been bought. We understand it takes time for parts to come but we haven't heard anything.

They are delaying replacement for weeks! This is the third home warranty company that I have had personal experience with and it is by far the worst.

Do NOT buy American Home Shield - COMPLETE RIP-OFF!! My AC unit went out a month ago. When I called in they did send a contractor 2 days later. The contractor determined a new unit was needed because the broken part was no longer available. For the next month, I spent at least 10 hours on hold/talking to AHS reps whom all promised to escalate my issue. Each call, AHS blamed the contractor for not giving all the info needed for a replacement unit. Meanwhile the contractor was blaming AHS saying they can’t wait for an hour on hold to give them the needed info. The contractor actually gave me their AHS special “pre-authorization” ID# and I called AHS and impersonated the contractor. I passed along the info AHS said they needed to the contractor a week ago and nothing...
So then three days ago I called to cancel with AHS. They put me to a “recovery specialist” whom promised she would escalate and even get their field acct manager involved. Of course no promised call back has occurred. So now I’m going thru Home Depot and canceling AHS. BBB you need to investigate AHS for fraud. I am betting any positive reviews on here are fake as well. People do NOT buy with AHS. You are better off saving the $50 premium and having your own rainy day fund.

The contractor was very cooperative and he made sure to go one step further to solve the problem. He was very good. Our AC turned out to have two issues but the main issue for not cooling was the lack of Freon. At the same time, there was a shortage issue that he followed up. He found out that the power in the AC and in some parts of the house were disconnecting. The circuit breaker was shutting off so he told me that there was also an electrical problem that I needed to take care of. I called American Home Shield for the service and because of COVID, you have to wait a long time to speak with someone live. After the wait, I placed the request on the automated service on the phone.
I have two properties and the service went to the wrong property, which is the oldest property in their system and it was supposed to be for the second property. Luckily, that property is very close to my residential house so, I met the guy. He told me that the house didn't call for a service so, I figured out what happened. I went back to the next street and I told him that this service was supposed to be for the other house. It was very hot and I had new people that moved in just a day before and there were so many kids. I just wanted this problem to be solved as soon as possible so, I told the person to head to the second property so I could call back American Home Shield and put the service on the other one.
It took me over a half hour to reach someone from AHS and meanwhile, the guy went there. But he had to wait for confirmation from them. I spoke with someone and that person was good. He canceled that one, put the new service and took care of the refund. The refund was a little bit different though. I had $75 for the first, which was taken out and then refunded back. I could not understand why the second one was $100 but it's okay. I got my service taken care of and I paid the guy because the Freon was not covered. I paid him separately and everything was done. This tis was the second time it happened that it went to the wrong place. It happened two years ago with a similar issue.
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I submitted the two requests. The first one was online to American Home Shield. Then, I realized that it would not allow me to add a second unit upstairs, so I had to do another service request over the phone. There was a problem with the online service request. On the phone, you can put up to three units as being needing repair. But if I go online, it doesn't let me do more than one. So, American Home Shield admitted that they have an issue with their system online.
The first contractor, Heritage, came in for the first service request. He said the circuit breaker was bad. He fixed it, it was just a two-minute job and he left. The second service request for the upstairs unit, the same company came back. They said it would cost me $2,080 to replace Freon, to get permits, to get some cold and to replace the evaporator coil. That was a lot of money, especially with someone who has insurance. He said $600 of that insurance would be covered by American Home Shield, and I had to pay close to $2,100 out of pocket.
So I had to hire another contractor out of my own pocket because I understand a little bit of air conditioning and I was not convinced they diagnosed it correctly. Because I was able to measure the pressure that the Freon was flowing, and the pressure, there was no leak that I could tell. I also checked upstairs, the compressor outside and things looked fine. There was only a motor that was making a weird noise.
So when I hired another person, he also confirmed my observation that that was not true. Their diagnosis was wrong and they felt there was some nexus between these guys and they were trying to make money. So, I was very pleased to get hold of another lady at American Home Shield and explain this problem. She was very kind. She was very understanding of the situation and she dispatched another contractor to get another assessment. The new contractors were absolutely top-notch. They diagnosed the problem. They said it was a motor that was bad and they replaced the motor. They also didn't have to do any of the $2,100 expense. The problem was resolved. It's two weeks now and it is running fine.

It took a couple of days for the contractor to get here and to get things done but it was done on a weekend so I can understand that. But I was pleased with everything. It's working fine since then. No problems at all.

We had a claim for our large top burner on an electric stove. The element in the oven had worn out and the big burner wasn't coming on. The guy from Kingdom Repair checked it and then he did something. When I went to use it, it got too hot. It burned up the pot before I could even turn around and I was in the kitchen. He came back and put in a switch. Everything is fine with it now.
I've had American Home Shield for quite a few years now and the one thing I like is that they call me back when I call them. They give me the information I need in case I need to contact the service person. Then the service person calls and makes appointments and they're here when they say they're gonna be here. I know there are others, but I think I'm gonna stay with American Home Shield. I've had friends call and said, "Oh, you don't need that." They don't have any. Well, I do and so far, I've been very well pleased.

The guy from A to Z Electric was very professional and nice. He knew what he was doing. He knocked it out. He contacted me before he came. The claim submission to American Home Shield was hard to do though. It was almost impossible to do it online. I ended up having to do it online. If I needed this light and this other electrical box put in, they had to be separate orders. I called five times and nobody picked up the phone.
In the beginning, when I called them to find out some stuff like, “I have a Viking stove. Are you gonna be able to fix that?” They couldn't tell me. They couldn't tell me if they had a vendor in the city. I live in Dallas. It’s a big city. So, I put them off for at least three months. Then just decided even though they weren't gonna answer any questions or didn't seem to be very friendly or forthcoming. They didn’t even say, “Oh, no matter what, we'll be able to fix your Viking stove or your Sub-Zero fridge.” They just said, “Well, we have people that could do stuff everywhere.” It wasn't very confident and inspiring.

I bought my house in '16 and I had American Home Shield at the time of purchase. I still have it and as a matter of fact I told my mother she should get the one I have and I would give her the number to call 'cause I have no problems. Recently, I had a problem with my dryer. The light was on but it wasn't turning. After I submitted my payment, they sent me an email that said what day the contractor was coming between such and such time. He came and did his job. He explained to me what happened and fixed my dryer. He also explained to me how I should follow up. He was polite and well-mannered. I had no problems. The repair helped me out a lot 'cause I had to go to the laundromat.

Our house wasn't new and American Home Shield came with it to cover the appliances and stuff. It's definitely worth to have it in the long run if you have issues. It's easy to submit the claims online, but it's not updated after that. If I go log in now, it still shows some claims that are open that are really close. Also, there are zero follow-ups from them.
I had an issue with my doorbell where it would just ring randomly. Then I had the issue with the wiring to the TV in the attic was plugged into my light, and then the third thing was my floodlights. When Elite Electric came the first time they said that the floodlights weren't covered 'cause there was power. Then the technician said he would get back to me about the attic wiring for the TV. But I haven't heard anything back from that.
The electrician changed the doorbell and then it was still doing it. So, I called back to American Home Shield and did a recall. They changed the chime. The guy said that if it didn't fix it, then they would need to come back and then replace some kind of wire. And lo and behold, at six o'clock this morning, my doorbell rang out of the blue. Elite Electric was good. They called and gave me a four-hour window between 8:00 to 12:00 and hey came at 10:30. But they haven't fixed the issue yet.

The air conditioner was completely falling apart. It was rusted and fell all the way down. Kingwood Air Solutions, the first company that came out, took pictures and said that they were gonna have to come back and overhaul the motor and do this, this and that. The technician told me that American Home Shield was only gonna pay for 10 pounds of Freon then I’ll be expected to pay the balance, which was fine with me. Then, I told them to ask AHS if they would give me another air conditioner and I can pay for whatever needs to be done. He said that AHS was not gonna do it. I asked how he knew and he said that he just knew. I said that he wouldn’t know unless he asked. He told me to call AHS and find out what they’re going to do and to let him know. A whole week later, nothing.
I finally called, talked to the receptionist and she claimed that he had replaced some kind of screws. I said that this man didn’t do any work while he was here and she said that he did. I said that whatever he did, neither air conditioner is working. I called her back again and told her again that the man has never called me back and let me know what’s going on and what he did to the air conditioner. She said he charged for the fix but I said that he never fixed anything. He was charging American Home Shield for something he did not work on. So I said that if they send me an evaluation, I’m gonna give them a bad evaluation. She didn’t send me one which was when we decided to try to find somebody else in the area.
The first experience was horrible but Air Majesty was terrific and I’d recommend them highly. Jim, the guy who came out, was outstanding and professional. Everything was done in a timely manner and it was a wonderful experience. He was a godsend and I'm overwhelmingly satisfied with his work. He found the problem and fixed it. It turned out to be something that the first guy came and unplugged to turn stuff off to see what’s wrong with it. He unplugged something that caused me not to have any air condition at the top or bottom floor.
We went out at 11:30 at night to Walgreens one night and CVS another night to buy fans. Everybody had to get in one room with these two fans and it still was hot and the other company did not care at all. Jim put a lot of care and emotion into what he does and he had a lot of other clients. He said that he was not gonna be able to be here at 12:00 but he asked if he could come in 1:00. He communicated, which is what you do to let us know because we're just sitting around and waiting on you to show up.
I just bought this house on the 24th of February, so I’m new and now, everything wants to break down. I gotta go and I’m gonna have to replace my commode. I’m gonna do that on my own. Plus, I’ve got to replace a faucet that’s loose. It’s just ridiculous. I had to pay an inspector to go out and inspect everything and now things are just falling apart. If something is gonna cost $60, it’s not worth it to call AHS because I still have to pay a $75 fee, so it’s more feasible that I would go ahead and just take care of it on my own. Still, I appreciate being a member of American Home Shield.

The Southway guy that came out was good. He fixed the dishwasher and then he tested the disposal. He was very knowledgeable, very professional, very nice and sociable. The dishwasher was not draining and so, he got it to drain. He tested several times. He even had me to test it before he left. I had no problems with him. It was the second person that came out for the Drain Go which was the biggest problem I had.
They gave me a window. They said they were gonna come between 2:00 and 5:00 on a Wednesday. They called me and said they had an opening and that they might be early. But, I couldn’t do it early. 2:00 to 5:00 came and they never came and they never called. I called Drain Go and I was like, “No one showed up, what's going on?” The rep said, "He must’ve gotten busy. Can he come after this time?” I said, “No. I have something planned. You've already wasted five hours of my time. Nobody has called and verified.”
I was like, “We can reschedule. If you reschedule me on Friday, can I be the first one? Since you've already wasted five hours of my time.” She was like, “That's not how it works.” I said, “All right, you’re being very unprofessional, but go ahead and put me down.” So I went on and did what I had to do after that Wednesday, then after that 2:00 to 5:00 window, I got an alert. Drain Go was at my door.
I said, “Oh, okay.” The part that really bothered me on it was I had already told her I already had something to do. Then, two gentlemen came that day and barely spoke. They didn't even call before they came. They just showed up. I don’t even think they spoke to me. They never said anything about what was going on, but I was in the kitchen watching them. I noticed they went out to the car and got a box. They came back in and switched them out. But they never said, "Definitely not working. We're gonna go ahead and switch them out." When they finished what they were doing, they said, "Do you had to email," and they turned pulling their phone. Unlike the Southway guy, who tested the appliance and even told me to come test it myself, I didn’t see them test it.
The first time I called in to get the situation fixed, I waited for about an hour. I had to hang up from a service call and I called back like if I wanted to purchase American Home Shield and they picked up the phone immediately. That was how I got through. So when the issue was coming about with the Drain Go thing, I called back, the same thing. I stayed on the phone for 45 minutes. I was just on hold. I got off the phone. This time I masked my number. I called back like I was buying, an insurance client and the same thing happened again. I've called in twice and couldn't get a response on a request line to get something fixed, but when I turn around and call as a potential customer, they answer immediately.

But I personally like to talk to a human. But sometimes I have to wait for the callback and sometimes that does take a little longer to get someone, plus you have certain hours that you could only call in where online you could do it any time. However, when you're online, you can’t ask any questions. So I don't particularly like going online to do it. If it's a straight and easy thing, that might work. But a lot of times I have questions. I've been with American Home Shield for a few years now. Submitting claims has been super easy and I love their online interface. So far, some of their contractors have been just okay. When we moved in, we discovered a leak in our master bedroom. The plumber who was sent said it was not a covered item. However, he only told us that after he sawed a hole through our drywall. He already had access to the issue but then he wanted additional access. Fortunately, AHS sent out someone to fix our drywall.
Another time, a tech came and he felt like a slimy salesperson. He recharged our air conditioner with Freon but then tried to sell us a $12,000 air conditioner set. He also told me that while he could recharge my unit with Freon, it's just gonna leak out again. We opted for the recharge and the air conditioner has been fine since. So, that was kinda aggravating. Most recently though, Complete Garage Door Services came out for our claim and I was super happy with their service. They got everything done on the first visit.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

My hot water heater broke and I went online to submit a claim to American Home Shield. It was convenient and they said the contractor would call in 24 to 48 hours, which they did. Or we could call them. Interacting with Infinity Plumbing was great. I called them to ask when they would show up and if they had any availability earlier than what they initially gave me. They said they did, so it worked out wonderful. They showed up on time, and was very courteous in giving me updates on what they were doing and when they were finished. Before they got here, I didn’t have any hot water. So, when they came and fixed it, then I had hot water and it affected my day-to-day great after they fixed it. It helped because I got hot water. I love American Home Shield. They have one of the best home warranty coverages around. I moved from one home warranty to another one just because of their outstanding coverage. So, I enjoy it.

I knew something was wrong because the AC is pumping out air but it's not a lot and it's not very cool. That's when I first submitted a claim online. I like the website. It's very user-friendly. I've requested two or three things online now. It told me I would get a confirmation email within 24 hours that a contractor had been assigned. I got my email and my text for the confirmation within 30 minutes of me submitting the claim online, which was awesome. And then, I got the call from the contractor on the next business day because I submitted it on a weekend online and then I got the call on Monday.
Greenway did a good job. Normally, when the contractor gives you such a big time slot, you expect them to show up right at the end, but they showed up early which was cool. I let the tech in to the backyard, he looked at the air conditioning unit and there was water in it and he had to drain the water out. Also, he said something was wrong with the fan. He got it taken care of and handled quick. The repair helped a lot because we weren't having a lot of cooling on my house considering it was 85 degrees. Now, I'm at a much better, cooler temperature. My dogs are a lot happier. Things have been a lot better.
I recommend Home Shield to everyone who buys a house. When I'm at work or when I have a friend who's interested in buying a house, I tell them to make sure that they get a home warranty and I specifically tell them to get Home Shield. Since I've moved in, I've had my heater go out and my AC and dishwasher needed to be fixed. I can't imagine the cost I would have had if I didn't have a home warranty company and I'm very thankful that I have Home Shield. They are always on top of it and are so responsive.

Our AC unit was just blowing air. My husband went online and asked American Home Shield if somebody can come and check. Douglas Mechanical came out. There was a problem with the coil that needed to be replaced, and they did talk about it's just a Band-Aid. Then American Home Shield said that I would only have to pay 1,200.
We paid $100 for Douglas Mechanic to come as per the contract from American Home Shield. There was a representative of Douglas Mechanical who came that night and discussed about the issues and how much I'm going to pay American Home Shield and how much American Home Shield will only pay. Douglas Mechanical gave us the options and the advantages and disadvantages of adding the coils that is the problem right now versus changing the whole thing and we’ll have a warranty and how much American Home Shield will pay. They replaced the whole unit. I'm paying 11,000.

I felt bad when I had to call back because I was asking how this could be a problem again and he was very polite. Each time, he showed and explained to me what he was doing and why. Now that it's fixed, it's so much better. It was a worry before because I'm a single mom and half the time, I don't know this stuff as good as I should. I submit claims with. American Home Shield online and their website is good. But they should update all information on there for each case as it comes along. When my refrigerator went bad, it was such a long time to get information. I had to get a new refrigerator and I just ended up spending a lot of time on hold.

A friend of mine who had some stuff go in their house tried American Home Shield just because they didn't see what the harm was and it was an affordable price. So, he figured better safe than sorry. One day, his air conditioning unit went down and it started a whole domino effect of other systems that went down in his house. So, he placed the call and next thing you know, a day and a half later, several different vehicles pulled up with different work people, and they got to work. They fixed them up in no time. His deductible from all the different services was only $500 but the work came out to several thousands. That paid for itself for all the time he has been on it. So, I tried AHS.
I had AHS going out of sight, out of mind. When I look at my bank account to withdraw, it's so nominal that you don't notice it. When my water heater gave out due to an electrical outlet, I had a domino effect myself here. I went into the basement to put something in my deep freezer and I smelled the odor. So, I opened my deep freezer and the power was out. The deep freezer was defrosted and all the meat was spoiling in there. I checked my circuit breakers and every time I tried to flip it, it would flip back. Nothing I would do would correct the issue.
I started searching the basement and my water heater was out as well. I couldn't figure it out and I was not gonna stay here and rack my brain and maybe get shocked. So, I did my claims on the app. A day later, I received the confirmation through a phone call and about another half a day later, I got two work people coming in and fixing my stuff. The tech came and repaired my outlet, which I could have done myself, but I didn't know. It's better safe than sorry. When the contractor came, they changed out my water heater. I only had to pay a separate fee. My pipes were not up to code and that was not covered by the insurance. Altogether, I spent maybe $430, but I've probably got about two grand in work. So, I’m keeping AHS.
My TV went out and I thought this was the same program for everything but when I checked my insurance policy, it was just for the home items. The TV was a whole different company plan which I don't subscribe to. But I appreciate the service through AHS as well as the quick responses and the personnel that come out. Both gentlemen were very professional. They came with masks and gloves and called ahead of time. They also texted ahead of time with pictures of who they are. You would not be scared of these guys because they would tell you upfront when they were coming and what they were gonna do. Then, they would tell you step-by-step everything what was going on. This way, you could feel comfortable.
The guys were great. They came in and did their job. The guy was apologizing while telling me he had to stick me with another $200. But he said that he was gonna try go into the company first to see if they could charge some insurance. Unfortunately, it wasn't covered but at least, he made the effort. Those were for electrical and plumbing so, I can imagine that the rest of these type of services that are in the policy will be just as good. I don't know how AHS is screening their contractors but way to go. I back this company 100%. American Home Shield did their thing as promised. I thought it had many hidden agendas or hidden fees. So, I was expecting to be hit with all kind of stuff. But they were truly face value and as stated. So, I appreciate it.

I put in a repair request online to American Home Shield. The website was great. It was very user-friendly. They send me a text letting me know about the three-hour window when someone would come in. The person from Aire Serv came over here in about an hour and did his work, and everything is working fine now. He was a really nice person. He came over and introduced himself. Prior to that, I received a text with his picture and his information. So, when he came over to introduce himself, he said he was here to work on the air conditioner. He went out there, look around, and asked a few questions. He is a very good personnel.
I had no issue with this claim about the air conditioner. Now, I had to complain about the stove going off. It was a little bit disappointing because AHS gave me a window when the guy was gonna come in. It was like from 12:00 to 3:00, and he didn't show up until almost 7 o'clock. The guy was from Sears I took off from work to be at home so I could be here.
I understand if you go to other places and they get tied up with other things. But what really bothered me was that nobody called to let me know. I had to call Sears to ask them, "Hey, what's going on with the claim?" The lady on the phone told me, "I'm sorry, yeah." I asked, "Is he coming or not?" "Oh, yeah. He's on his way." An hour later, that was when he showed up. So, the lady that I called lied too because it doesn't take an hour from where the guy was to my house. I don't know if it was a misunderstanding. I don't have no issues with people running late, but you call somebody and let somebody know. I could've went to work the whole day and came back home, and I would still have time to be here by the time that he would come in.
With AHS, I had no problem. The two times that I had a claim, I got them done. I put the claim in and within minutes, they already had somebody notify me of somebody coming to my house. So, they were pretty fast. In the first call with the air conditioning, it was great. But the second one with the stove, the first time the people came over to check it out, it was a total disaster. They had to come back because they had to order a part for my stove. But before they came back, they called me and told me, "Hey, I'm on my way. I'll be there soon." He came over, put the part, and there were no problems.

I wouldn't have stayed with AHS if I hadn't thought that they were an outstanding organization. I've had several claims, and I have not had a problem with them at all. They've been upfront, including telling me what it would cost, and everything else then is taken over by AHS. Within a day or two, I've had my problems resolved. This past time, I paid a flat $75 for somebody to respond, and everything else was covered by AHS.

We recently had an AC claim with American Home Shield. The compressor was shot, so they replaced it. Comfort Pros came in on a Wednesday. They said the compressor was no good and they would have to order it. But it was a pretty available part that was there, so it would probably be in by that Friday. I called Friday. It wasn't in. They were closed on the weekends, so I didn’t get a chance. I called back Monday. They said it was on order and still not in. On Tuesday, I called back again.
Also on Tuesday, I got a call from American Home Shield saying that I had to pay $1,100 for the Freon because when they do the compressor, there's a charge for Freon. I asked Home Shield if I had to use Comfort Pros to do that or if I could just get my own person to do that. They said, "Yeah, you can get whoever you want." Then on Wednesday, when I called back, they said it was still on order. I called Comfort Pros back on Wednesday. They said it was still on order that morning. About the middle of the day, I got a callback from somebody at Comfort Pros saying that I had to pay $1,100 to them for the Freon before they can order the part. I just lost it.
It’s a tenant’s place, too, and they're out of AC for a whole week. It was starting to get hot. The tenant has a heart condition. They were telling me it was on order the entire time. Then it felt like a strong-arm tactic to say, "Well, if you don't pay us for the Freon, we're not ordering the part." I told Home Shield to confirm that, and they said that's not the way it's supposed to work. When I lost it, Comfort Pros wouldn't even talk to me. I did not cursed. I was just very irate.
I had to wait longer. They didn't get the part until that following Friday. Then they had to reschedule because they said that the tech that was scheduled to come out had a family emergency. So, they did come out on Saturday. They installed it. I did have to pay. I had my wife call to pay on the credit card the 1,100 because I needed to get it done. So far, I have not gotten yelled at by my tenant, so it must be working good.
Overall, it seems like American Home Shield doesn't pay the contractors that they sub out to very well. I've used it for a number of things in my primary house and also my rental property, and the amount of time and the level of skill on the people that come out are terrible. I had a few callbacks, and you get the sense that they're there begrudgingly doing the work for them.

My AC wasn't cooling my house really good and to file the claim, I just called American Home Shield and went through a prompt system. It was a short process of charging $75. It was really fast. It was amazing. They said they were gonna contact a company to call me and then within a few minutes, I got a text message that told me this company would contact me to make an appointment. Then South Placer Heating and Air called me within few days and I'm super happy with my experience.
One of the good things was that the technician, David, wasn't in a rush. He spent a good time on my system and he solved my problem in one visit. That was amazing. He went through everything step by step and checked the temperature for every single vent. Then he told me there was nothing wrong with anything. He checked the temperature and it was really cool but he said the edge of my vent wasn't in a good shape. He just used his fingers, opened the vent and changed the shapes of the panels, and it was a miracle. My house became super cold.
But last year, when I called American Home Shield, they sent someone to my house who, without seeing anything, just told me, straightforward, that I needed Freon and that it was gonna cost me $300. I was in shock. How come they were asking me for money and not even checking anything? I didn't want to have them to fix the AC and I asked another company, who told me different things. So I didn't trust either one of them. But David was a really good guy. I liked him. He was super professional and really polite. They were also using masks all the time.

American Home Shield has never told me that before and I can't say how many times they've opened different work orders for calling back for the same issue. I made the call to American Home Shield because the AC was leaking into my home. When Scooter came out and fixed the AC, initially it did fix the problem and the AC stopped leaking. He owns that business, Air On Demand, and he said he put a p-trap in there. But just yesterday, the AC started leaking again. I started with American Home Shield a couple of years ago when I had my house rented and I moved back to the house. I am a Realtor so I sold a lot of the policy to my customers. I've given a link to my customers where they have purchased the home warranty for themselves. When I make my claims, I do it all over the phone. Usually, I get a hold of people pretty easily. But during the whole COVID situation, the two times that I contacted American Home Shield took way longer to get through to them. I had a new situation with the AC then my stove. They changed my stove but it took almost a month and a half.
For my AC, they sent out Cool Works Heating & Cooling. Their guy got here on time and was very informative. Everything was good. I called three times in the past couple of years regarding my two AC units and they kinda really need to get replaced. But American Home Shield is telling me other things and I kinda understand why. They don't want to pay for a brand new AC. My units are older and they're just telling me, “No, close the blinds, do this, change the flow.” I've never had a problem with it before but we’ve been in this house for 14 years. It's just coming to that time.

A year ago, our real estate agent recommended American Home Shield when we purchased a home because it wasn't a new one. It's old and they thought things could go wrong. I looked at the American Home Shield's line of business. I don't think it's an easy business because there are too many unknowns and it's hard to control events with these various homes they're covering.
Overall, my experience is fine. Any time I spend 1,500, for example, for an annual premium and I'm getting that much value within the first year, it's hard for me to complain because even though it's sort of an insurance product, it's still a money-making business. From my eyes, it's based on the kind of business American Home Shield is.
From a critical standpoint, when you get on the telephone and you're waiting for a customer service rep, the wait time is consistently long. It is ordinarily at least an hour and it can be two hours, especially if you're dealing with their appliance division. When I get on the phone, I'm kind of locked in even though I don't like it. During the wait and if I hang up then, I would have just wasted X number of minutes and I would have to start over again sometime.
American Home Shield taking responsibility is pretty good but it takes forever. They could use more customer service reps. But with the business model, that could possibly be intentional. First of all, it costs money to hire more people. But if I did it over again, would I purchase the warranty? It would depend on the home I buy. If it's a newer home, no. I would just take my chances.
Claims cover a variety of scenarios. If my washing machine doesn't work in the home I buy, American Home Shield will send somebody out to look at it. If they can repair it, they do. If not or if the repair job looks expensive, often they'll give the homeowner a choice. It's either go for the replacement, which American Home Shield ordinarily recommends a product they probably get a good deal on or if I want to buy my own, there's a limitation on reimbursement. My wife pushed me to take that option a couple of times and I just wait and see if I get the check. If I get the check, I'm satisfied. If I don't, that will require more phone waiting.
Also, if a problem is not solved the one time, we have to call three, four, or five times to solve it. Because we are seniors, we don't work so we can do this but how do people who are working handle that? Also, on the weekend, the company is not open and it’s kind of a problem. And if we call for one item, we have to go about four, five, or six people. Finally, they respond. My wife doesn't speak English well. Listening is harder than speaking. Foreigners come in and they do speak English but my wife has a hard time understanding because the accent is different. She would ask them to say it again then apologize. That’s the main problem. Aside from that, there's also the very slow processing.
Looking at it through American Home Shield's eyes, I sorta, like, “Well, what does he expect?” In other words, if you have an old house with old appliances where there's gonna be dollar signs likely, no one knows for sure. On the whole, it takes guts to even go into the business model that American Home Shield has. It’s just sort of like they have a set end of the policy. It's one or two years when you buy a house. After that, we're on our own. We're trying to sell a house. My wife is thinking of getting an American Home Shield policy on that house we're selling for the buyer. But we will have to talk about that more.

I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. Three days later, the contractor came out. They said between 11:00 and 3:00 and the time was good. The first time the technician came, he took the top off and put a piece inside the oven. But it was still doing the same thing so I called them again. The second time he came out, he pulled the stove out and he put the top front part in where you turn the oven on. It seemed like it was doing fine while he was here.
Then, last Wednesday, I turned the oven on and it started doing the same thing. I can’t use my oven like that. I called AHS back and they resubmitted it again with Suffolk Appliances. They said I will hear from them within 24 hours. So, I called them to see when they will be coming out and they're gonna be coming out today between 11:00 and 3:00. I could tell that one of them was drunker than Cooter Brown. Also, AHS sent me a bill this year for 700 something dollars which is almost $100 more than what I paid last year. Recently though, my AC unit's fan was turning on but it wasn't putting any cold air out of the ductwork. I called American Home Shield and their reps set my claim up. They gave me the telephone number of Southern Air Conditioning and Heating and told me that company would get in touch with me. They also sent me a couple of e-mails stating who will be taking care of my situation.
The tech who came knew exactly what he was doing. He asked me what was going on and I showed him the air conditioning unit. I also brought him inside and showed him where our thermostat was. He had to go get a part and so he left and was gone for 45 minutes at most. He came back with some parts and took the side of our unit off. 30 minutes later, he plugged the breaker for our air conditioner and it worked. Leak Seekers came out for our plumbing issue and everything that the rep fixed was fine. I ended up needing a new toilet because the seal was broken and he came back the next day and did it. It was fast and he put the toilet in quickly. He did a good job. I called American Home Shield for the claim and told them what needed to be done. I had to do another claim for something else and both went fine. I recently lowered the co-pay on my renewal with AHS so, I'm happy with it now.

I bought the house 22 years ago and everything is going wrong now. It seems like everything is breaking and it looks like I'm having to replace my appliances one by one. The dishwasher was an old one and I didn't use it that much. But water was running all over the floor and I wiped it up, and I said that next time, I would double-check. But it kept doing it, so I did the claim to American Home Shield over the internet. I didn't have any difficulties but it was different from years ago when I started with AHS. It was one-on-one and I'm just not an internet person. I'm 74 years old and I'm just not up to the modern step. But it didn't take long. The guy from A&K Appliance Repair came out and checked it. He told me that something was busted inside because it was so old. He said he was gonna talk to American Home Shield about it. It was gonna have to be replaced.
I had to select which way I wanted to go. I could do one of three things. I could let American Home Shield get a dishwasher for me or I could get a check from them. Then, the third option was go to Home Depot with a check. It made it perfect because I didn't have to worry about the dishwasher anymore and trying to get it fixed, and the leaking. It was a positive thing. I have no complaints about it because I got a new dishwasher and it was installed. I've had American Home Shield it for years and it’s a good service.

American Home Shield's contractor Air Systems Heating and Cooling came out for an AC issue at our place recently. The first time the tech came, he replaced the belt of our unit. He also told me that he didn't know how long that belt would hold. I told him we'd take our chances but then three weeks later, that belt cracked again and something else broke. AHS called Air Systems again and the tech was back at our place that evening. He then told me that I could keep pouring money into the repair of the unit but it's shot. I appreciated that more than having him come back and forth to make repairs. He was very professional and told me that he would be submitting a claim to AHS for them to replace my unit.
Since 2007, I've had five addresses with American Home Shield. I've had other companies try to recruit but AHS has never let me down. When I submit claims, they take my information and their reps then put me on hold. They contact their vendor and then let me know what's going on instead of telling me that somebody will call me back. Though their turnaround time could be a little quicker, the vendors they use have been excellent.

The AC wasn't cooling and Home Shield sent out US Air Conditioning of Texas. The tech who came out was nice and he fixed it on the same day. He replaced a condenser fan motor but the AC is still staying a few degrees above where I have it set. It's cooling some but it’s still not perfect. I'm trying to keep track of how well it performs whenever it's hot out.

AHS sent out Appliance Worx for my washer and they seemed really knowledgeable. Their etiquette was great but they couldn't fix it. My washer is still having the same issue. I'm now on my sixth technician appointment in the past few months. So that's discouraging. I’m now working with Sears. They're on their third visit and I'm waiting for them to show up today again. It's disappointing. I need a resolution. Fortunately, I'm a school teacher so I don't work in the summer, but if it’s during the school year, I would have to take six days off or work half days, which is not something I would like to do. They gave me 12:00 to 6:00 and 8:00 to 12:00 windows, which were not really helpful.
AHS is professional and courteous. They are apologetic when I call and complain. That's good but my issue is not yet resolved. My whole point of choosing them was for the great vendors that they said they have. They seemed like they knew what they were doing, but in my case, I'm going on my sixth visit, and I don’t like that.

We got American Home Shield when we bought the condo and we kept it after that because some of the appliances are older and it's easier this way. We've had them for 2 years now. They replaced the stove once. Recently, Whirlpool came out and the tech really knew what he was looking for. The dryer wasn't heating up and he came in, pulled it out and checked the fuse. He said the fuse went out. He was on time and he did a good job. However, sometimes you wait a little bit longer for an appointment to get somebody in because usually if you call in about something, it's an emergency.

The air conditioner stopped working and it was a compressor. It was at the end of the summer season. It was from a model Bryant but it had gone out of business so the contractors of AHS had to get parts. But it was gonna take them a while since it was the end of the summer season and Bryant has gone out of business. We moved back to the home that we still owned and lived in it until they could acquire the part. The company at the time that AHS had used was County Wide. County Wide did a good job keeping us informed. But it was at the end of the season and it was in one month of buying the service. So in September eventually, the part came. County Wide came out and then we moved in to the house completely.
Lately, we had Joe Cool, the air conditioner guy, come out to take care of our air conditioning. Then we also had a guy come out and take care of our oven because the coil had died. He came and replaced that. The only thing that AHS doesn't cover in the normal service are the refrigerators and washing machines. We paid about 300 for the washing machine to get fixed a couple years back. Also, on their regular contract, AHS still doesn't have companies who repair gas fireplaces. My wife had to look for somebody on the internet to replace the gas fireplace that we have. But everything else, it's fine. We've been happy customers for this period of time. Our experience has been very gratifying. I didn't have that in the home that I had before. Only in my fourth home that I've done it and I've been glad ever since.

Once you call to make a claim, it takes forever to get through. Also, you're constantly talking to the automated system and they keep referring you back to the main menu. If we could change that and expedite this, that would be great. I had a problem with the shower stall. The handle on the faucet completely broke and we couldn't turn off the water so I had to turn off the water to the whole unit. When Roman's Rooter came out, the tech asked me what the problem was and I explained it to him. He asked me how I turned off the water. I told him I had to go outside. He asked if it affected both units. I said just mine. He said, “Okay.” So, he looked at it and said he can fix it, and he commenced to fixing it. After that, I had no problems.
The last set of contractors Home Shield sent out to the home was Plumbers, Inc. I wasn't too happy with them. I didn't like their service. I didn't like their sales rep who took care of the phone call. They seemed like they didn't pay any attention to my concern. Hopefully, I never have to deal with them again. Roman’s was the best one. They're good.

The contractors that came for our AC unit recently were fine. They were here before. They found the problem and they fixed it. The drain pipe of the air conditioning unit was clogged. They had to take apart the drain and fix it. They had their face mask on. I also sent AHS a notice about my garage and they sent a garage guy out. When I filled out the stuff, I mentioned that it was for the outdoor keypad. However, the outdoor keypad is not covered under the warranty because it's not part of the system. The contractors didn't fix anything, just did a little maintenance work and said, “You gotta get your own keypad.” So, that’s the problem. I gotta still get it fixed.
The warranty either has to be improved or it has to be spelled out better. It should actually be spelled out there that you don't include the outdoor entry keypad. The reason that it’s so important is that we use that to let 911 come in the house in case of an emergency. We could open the door, and the key to the house is in the garage. That I didn’t like at all.
We also had a claim for a three-speed ceiling fan. The low speed was not working properly. The contractors came out twice. Now, we've been in the house nine years, so the fan’s not a new fan. The bottom line on that was the manufacturer covers the motor for a lifetime warranty if you're the original owner. I told them, “We're not the original owners.” It didn't matter, it seemed. In one ear, out the other ear. They were here twice on it and it's still working the same old way, which is, I can actually count the revolutions on low. It doesn't even work. So that didn't work either. But AHS fixed our washer and that was fine. There was no problem with that. But it's like pulling teeth sometimes. They look for reasons not to fix stuff.

For the last official service, Liberty Plumbing came to my house at least three times. What they would do is they would put sealant in the system because they suspected the leak. The last time they came, they said, "Oh, there's only one pound of Freon left." Right now, again, it's just a game of tag. I'm trying to get Liberty to respond to me so that they could come out again. When I do get them to the house, things are good. They do what they can. But for example, they would come and fill up my upstairs AC unit with Freon. After a few days, it would not cool down sufficiently. And then, I would have to try to get them. And that's where the difficulty is - trying to get them to respond or pick up a phone.
When you call their main office, you would get a prompt for saying, "Okay, for this thing, you press this, for that. For scheduling, you press this." And I always get that, I always leave messages. But I don't know if they never get it or I'm supposed to press another number, but I could never usually get anyone that way, except for when they text me, and then I text them back. I'm having difficulty getting them to respond saying, "Hey, I got your message. I can't get you an answer yet till tomorrow." But other than that, when they do the work, it's good.
In my last go-around, what I did, and what I didn't know was that I contacted Liberty directly to set up another technician to come over, just because their last fixes didn't work. And then, in hindsight, I said, "Oh, you know what? I had already gotten them scheduled for that same day." So, what I decided to do was I called Home Shield and told them I should've called them first, but they said, "No, that's fine." They put it in the records.
Since it was within 30 days, that's the last official request through AHS. And since the issue wasn't solved still, as part of the contract, they don't charge it. But it's good because they put it in their system. And then they email Liberty. So it's not just me, and then they send an email to Liberty requesting, "Please let us know what the diagnosis is." So, it's not just between Liberty and me. Now, on that part, all I see is between Liberty and me in terms of if Liberty reaches out to Home Shield with a diagnosis or whatnot.

Appliance Brothers came out and they fixed my issue. They were friendly, and they called to see if they can come early. We had them earlier. The problem was our oven. They said there was a burnt connection, which wasn't allowing the bake function to work. They were able to fix it on site. They just repaired the connection.
American Home Shield has been great. We've used them a few times, and it's worked out well. The $100 fee does hit up front. We are paying 60 a month already, which is $720 a year, and I prefer not paying 100. But submitting a claim has been straightforward. I did the claim on the oven on the phone. It was the automated system I was able to use. So, it was fairly quick.

There was a warranty on the home when we bought it but it was with another company and I wasn't too thrilled with them. I decided to go with American Home Shield because they seemed to have a pretty good reputation. I googled them online and checked all the references and what people had to say about them. Having an older home built in 1930, I figured I better get everything covered. Recently, the condenser cooling fan on the outside of the unit had quit. I filed the claim and the technician called me immediately, so I was pretty impressed. He did a good job. He'd also done work for me a couple of years ago. I called the AHS to submit a claim because I had a problem with my air conditioner. Something was emailed to me that it was gonna be Summer Breeze that will be coming out for my air. It also left me with a telephone number to call Summer Breeze. They came out. They were done, but I had to have someone come out seven times. It seemed like my air would go right back out.
They would tell me, "It’s fixed. We got it." Then they would leave. Two days later, my air was out again. So I had to go back through the process again of AHS first and then I said, "Okay, this is back and forth." But I get it now because I've had to call so many times. As far as AHS, I didn't have a problem. They were courteous and they would send a quick email back to Summer Breeze. Our AC claim went great. We were so satisfied. It happened on a Friday and we're here in Arizona. It was like 108 degrees. I've had friends who have had to wait days to get someone out for their air conditioning. Originally, American Home Shield couldn't get someone out until Monday. We got a whole weekend. So we called American Home Shield back and said we needed someone to come out that day. We were staying on the phone however long it would take until they could find a company that could get out here that today, and it worked out right. So in the future, we just wouldn't take no for an answer.
They were able to get Sweet Mountain out that day and the guy had the part we needed on his truck. He didn't even have to order it. He was able to switch out the part so by the end of that day, we had air conditioning again. Air conditioning here is a big deal. So that was really awesome that we were able to get someone out here that day. We were so grateful and everything works great. This is the second time we've had to have someone come out. Before, it was last summer and the contractor was able to come out the same day also. So the problem was resolved. We've been happy with American Home Shield.

I used to think that AHS wasn't really worth the money. But it seems like the air conditioner goes out every summer and the heater goes out every winter. And they always come out to fix it. It seems like it's worth it. If you put the total payment and you multiply it and figure it out, it pretty much paid for itself throughout the year. They were also super nice when I talked to them.

When a pool pump failed, we called AHS. They sent out a contractor who determined that the pump was not covered and that he would replace the motor for $600.00. That cost us $75. We called AHS, waited the obligatory hour on hold and was offered a second contractor for another $75 fee since we have the optional pool coverage and AHS confirmed that pool pumps are covered. The second contractor told us he would report his finding to AHS but said the problem was the pool pump motor. After not hearing from AHS we called, waited on hold for another hour plus and spoke to someone who said the parts to repair the pump “were on order“ (AHS code for “hang up”). After not hearing from anyone for days, we called The contractor and were advised that AHS had not contacted them to proceed with the work.
AHS charged us another $75 in the meantime. Now, we cannot reach AHS since the number they gave us to follow up is off the hook. To replace the capacitor the cost would have been $15. Independently, we learned that To replace the motor would have been $250 plus labor. AHS’s vetted contractor tried to nick us for $600! After weeks of AHS incompetence in dealing with this issue we are still nowhere with them, unable to reach anyone with authority to resolve this issue, and are seeking another reputable insurance company that treats its customers professionally. AHS has a culture of deny, delay, deceive, and disappear. Don’t buy their marketing. They are impossible to deal with!

Worst company ever! I spent an entire year trying to get an AC split unit repaired a couple of years ago which I should have learned from. I kept them and when something went wrong they did send someone out promptly to fix issues. It's not until you have a real problem that they will completely let you down. I have had issues with our fridge for a while now so they send someone out. They try and fix it and it works fine for a while. The issues got worse so the technician had to render the fridge inoperable in order to deem it irreparable. So American Home Shield's deal is, "If we can't repair it we replace it," untrue. After 17 days, a dozen phone calls and hours of waiting on hold and being on phone calls they tell me to go ahead and purchase it myself and they'll reimburse me. I do and after 13 days, & hours of phone calls I call back today and they tell me they aren't responsible for the replacement nor a reimbursement.
I was with them for 5 years and the service was getting better but the last month has been a nightmare and a waste of time. The people you're forced to talk to don't know anything, are no help and extremely hard to understand. I was promised multiple times they would call me back and follow up which are just lies they tell to get you off the phone I suppose. 3 different people told me they would make it their main objective and follow up within 24 hours, no calls no emails. They will lie to you and tell you they're talking to the contractor that came to your house when they aren't. I would call the repair company myself and ask and they had no idea what I was talking about. It wouldn't have been so bad if I could of had a straight correct response instead having to constantly call and be lied to.

The GE repairman sent by AHS was very efficient and professional. On his first visit, he was unable to duplicate the leakage problem my dishwasher had. A few days after he was there, I used my unit, and it again leaked water & suds on the floor. On his second visit, we used the dishwasher detergent I used (the new Cascade with rinse agent), and it again leaked & suds came out. He advised that my older unit had a smaller water tray, and the rinse agent made the water softer, producing much more suds than the tray could hold. Then, when the next rinse came thru, it was too much for the tray, and it overflowed onto my floor. He suggested I use only the old style detergent, which has no rinse agent, and the problem has been solved. The repairman was really great!! He knew the dishwasher unit well, and was a great representative for GE and AHS.

I received a email after my last review, which apparently its sole purpose was so Consumer Affairs could allow AHS to say they responded and are helping me. There is still no response on repairing or replacing my dryer. I'm going to be forced to pursue small claims court. See American Home Shield Class Action Group on FB before purchasing a plan from AHS.
Original Review: I've been waiting over one month for a dryer repair. I've spent over 4 hours on hold waiting for information and still no end date in sight. This company gives no way to review or complain. Your just in indefinite limbo. Nothing is their problem and if you do reach a CS Rep they can't actually help you. They can only tell you the parts on order. Don't waste your money. You'll just be disappointed.

I have been with AHS for about 3 years. The 2 ACs went down with 1st hot wave in MI. Called for service on 6/4 and service was not possible before 6/11. My wife called a private contractor whom we paid 675$. He fixed one and decided exchange for the 2nd. Waited till 6/11 for AHS contractor (home services incorporation) who decided compressor needs to be changed and we have to come up with 816$ copayment that we immediately agreed to. Apparently the contractor did not finalize his recommendations with AHS till 6/17. And ever since nothing happens.
I called several times and every time I waited on hold 55-175 minutes just to hear the same “contractor orders the part and it needs 3-5 business day and you would be contacted”. I am still waiting with a temperature of 93 and high humidity. The customer service never connected me with higher level supervisor. The service is very suboptimal and customer service is extremely poor, useless and takes forever to reach. At the end all my calls and waitings were wasted. Fridge can’t be repaired, so I need replacement. Zero info from AHS, I have just been calling to no avail. I will not be renewing membership.

AHS serves us any time that I need them in excellent, quality services. The only issue is that each year, the price increases for me. I have paid for several years and my price is always more for me than for a new customer. I feel it's unfair. I asked them a lot of times, they said, "No, the property value changed, everything changed, we need to increase." We had an air conditioner issue recently. The contractors got to the site and fixed the issue. However, I needed the report and nobody sent the report. Finally, they sent the report two days ago. The air conditioner is working fine, too.

I've been recommending American Home Shield to family and friends, and everything is fine. I was with them last year. When some things happened, I had to drop out and I got back with them beginning of this year. I submit claims online and I've had two services. They were both for the air conditioner, and they were both by Elite.
I am glad to hear all of your experiences have been pleasant. We look forward to a strong business relationship with you.

I've had 2 claims since I've been with American Home Shield and submitting them has been pretty easy. When my garbage disposal was stuck, a tech came in 2 days and fixed it. He was a really nice guy.

Our AC was leaking water into the crawlspace in the hallway. It was leaking through the filter and making a puddle of water. American Home Shield sent A-US Air Conditioning of Texas. We got to soak up the water. It had two leaks outside and one leak inside and the tech fixed it and it's working fine now. He was a really nice man. We were satisfied. I like being able to call American Home Shield when something goes wrong. I haven't had that much go wrong since I've had them, but we've had an okay experience with them so far.

The water heater was leaking from the top and it was all rusted on the top. R & M Plumbing came out pretty quick. They were very professional and honest. They did the job that was given to them. They explained everything and were very helpful. However, I don't like American Home Shield's website because it doesn't give you options. If there's another provider and I'm not happy with the one that American Home Shield chose for me, I don't have an option to choose who I want to go through. Also, it doesn't give you options and a way of explaining what the problem is. It's just basic. It has dropdown menus and that's it. If you choose "other", it does give you options to put in but it's not the problem.
When American Home Shield contracted out Reliable Plumbing, they wanted $770 to install the water heater. We said no because that's too much. We could go buy a water heater for that much and install it ourselves. They were escalating their charges to make more money off the service call. When we tried to contact American Home Shield about it, I understand that COVID kinda screwed everybody up but it took hours to get on the phone with someone.
It also took forever to have them to subcontract someone else to come out because Reliable Plumbing had already purchased the parts, and they didn't wanna subcontract somebody out until we spoke with a supervisor. He finally helped us because it was either go through Reliable Plumbing or take the cashback option which was only $400 something. Then we still had to hire a plumber ourselves to install the equipment. It took over 2 weeks of getting this resolved and it was ridiculous. We put in the service call on the 3rd of June. We didn't get a new water heater until the 1st of July.
I'm not happy with Reliable Plumbing. They should've never purchased when we said no and we didn't want to go through them. There was no follow-up after they came in to initially assess. The guy didn't wanna give me a price until I spoke with someone through American Home Shield, and that took hours to get through. When I finally did and said we didn't want it, they said they already purchased. That whole situation was horrible and this isn't the first plumbing issue we had. This was their third time coming out.
The first time they came out, they wanted $325 to cut a hole in our wall. We pretty much pointed the leak out to them 'cause we looked first, and we cut holes in our floor to show him. But he thought it was behind the wall, which it wasn't. Now, I have a hole that I have to have someone fix. That's more money out of my pocket. He ended up going to where we told them where the leak was and fixing it where we cut the hole but I'm out of $325 for a hole in the wall where there was no leak. If he felt like the leak was behind the wall, he should have had a way of investigating without cutting a hole in the wall. The second time, we had a leak under the house. It was a drain leak which caused us out-of-pocket $8,000 to have all the water removed through an emergency water removal company and still didn't fix the leak. They told us to go under there and just patch it up with mortar.

I called and put the claim in for the washer that wasn't draining. The reps were helpful and got me what I needed. I requested Nice Guy. They were available and American Home Shield had them come out. They said that Nice Guy would be contacting me of what day they could come out and within 24 hours, I had a text about when they could. They came out and fixed the washer. Nice Guy is great. I really like them.
We've had American Home Shield forever and the only thing is they offered such a poor washer though they gave options of the ones that I could choose from. They replaced this washer two years ago and it's the worst washer ever. The contractor has come out three or four times to fix it. Within the first year, they had to replace the whole chamber. It's like a floating chamber so it's easy for stuff to get stuck in there. All the features are awesome, but it's really badly built. To have a major thing like that be wrong within the first year and to have three service calls within two years is just terrible. Other than that, I definitely recommend American Home Shield. I always recommend to have a home warranty because it would definitely cost us more not to have one.
Thanks for letting us know how everything worked out for you and thanks for recommending us. We look forward to helping you in the future. Take Care.

The air conditioner was making a loud noise like a washing machine and it turned out to be the blower motor. When I made the claim online to American Home Shield, they let me know what contractor was coming out and what time. Then, they contacted me to verify. The guy from Air Control Experts was great and the service was very professional. He came in, did his work and left. Everything’s good since then and we’ve got air. I’m happy that I subscribed to American Home Shield. I've been living in that house for 15 years and it’s getting older. I kept seeing the commercials and I kept seeing AHS online. I checked it out and I dealt with a couple of new vendors. AHS came out to be the cheapest. They're fast, concerned, fair and peachy.

Making a service request with American Home Shield is not too difficult. My fourth claim to them was for my garbage disposal and they sent out More Than Plumbing. In three to four days, someone from there came out. This experience was better than my last experience with my washer and dryer. I was very dissatisfied with that experience.
They told me that they were giving me something comparable to what I had. I had a Maytag and they said what was comparable was a GE. I never knew that a washing machine came without a dispenser for fabric softener. I've never seen that in my life. Other washers and dryers I've ever known from my parents or anybody always had a little spot to put the fabric softener. But the GE washer American Home Shield recommended didn't.
I called to say, "Hey, they didn't have in the details that this was not available or this is not a function of this washer." They were said they already delivered the unit and that I would have to keep it now. I felt like I should've gotten the payout for it and just went and bought my own. What they recommended was not comparable to what I had and I was very disappointed with that. I almost canceled my policy. But I have so much going on in my life that I didn't feel like looking for another warranty company to go through.
With the garbage disposal claim, that was the second one that I had to get through American Home Shield. It almost makes me second guess. I'm paying for this insurance. What kind of products are they having the company provide me with? In the almost four years I've been with American Home Shield, I've had to get a new garbage disposal. I don't remember my parents ever having to get one. I know products are different now and I understand that. But in the warranty, are they giving me the products that would last or are they giving me mediocre products so I make another claim? If it is that, I could just put to the bank what I'm paying in American Home Shield every month so that when something does go wrong, I would have the money there to take care of the problem.
At this moment, I am going to keep American Home Shield. But if something else better comes, then I am gonna cancel and go with the other company. With the last experience I had with them, they did take care of me. But it was more of the company they sent out versus American Home Shield. The company and the representative that they sent out were excellent.

I usually call in claims to American Home Shield and it's like pulling teeth getting through to them. It takes me three or four days but I eventually get through. I probably could have gotten through to them other times, if I just sat there and waiting on the phone for 30 minutes, and a lot of times I don't have the time. Most recently, RJ Service Solutions came for my garage door. The tech supposedly fixed the issue. He also told me that they had a year's warranty on their service. A couple of weeks after, the garage door started doing the exact same thing. I recalled RJ Solutions myself and told them we just had something done by them. They sent their tech out again and he changed little things at the bottom of the garage door sensors. AHS eventually found out about the service and they honored their contract. My garage door is working fine now.

I feel protected American Home Shield, especially in being by myself in my house. If anything, I can just call them and they can take care of it. My friends even got AHS too because I told them about it. I called Home Shield and they told me that the company was gonna call. Extreme Heating & Air called me on the same day and gave me a permit for maybe a day or two later. The guy came when he said he was supposed to be here and it was done. He was saying that the AC was stuck and it needed to be flushed. There was a puddle of water and if he did something and clean it, he was gonna charge me $50 for that. But I thought that the $75 covered everything. Everything is working okay for now.

I filed a claim and got a text that was telling me that the contractor would call me within the next 24 hours and they did. They did a pretty good job. They came right in and the guy looked at the problem. He didn't have the parts with him so he said he'd be back the next day with the parts. Then he was here and he got it done. The water heater was not producing hot water. Initially, Infinity Plumbing came out and relit it for me, and that was great, but then it went out again shortly afterwards. Quite promptly, as soon as I called the tech, he was able to say, “You know what, it's an old water heater and you’re probably gonna need to just replace it.” So, the next day or two days after, he sent someone out and two guys replaced it and we're doing good. I've had other claims and Home Shield always did really well for me. They always came through with what I had to deal with. I experienced their website not working properly but I assumed that they just had website problems. And the next day, it worked well. When calling, their lines were super busy, but with everything going on, that's a drop in the bucket. I'm really happy with Home Shield.

The problem is not always American Home Shield. Sometimes it's the contractor. There has been a time or two when the contractor wasn't thorough, but American Home Shield always follows up and gets somebody else out here to where it ends up being okay. Recently, our AC wasn't cooling two times in a row. The first time, someone came out and said that it was my ductwork/Freon. I don't think he did a thorough job though. He came back 48 hours later and put some Freon in it, but 5 to 10 days later, I noticed that it still wasn't cooling. It happened to be in the attic and when the second guy came out, he said that the drain line was clogged up. He flushed it and it’s cooling now.

American Home Shield sent Aaron's Plumbing to address my issue. When their tech came the first time, the kitchen sink faucet that he fixed stopped working as soon as he left. I tried to contact Aaron's to tell the techs to come back. I had to go through Home Shield for a recall and I was waiting on Aaron's for two weeks. With AHS, I tried to call for over a week and I could never get through. It was very hard for customers like me. I kept calling Aaron's Plumbing as well every day and telling their answering service that they should come and fix my faucet. Finally, a lady who works for Aaron's told me that she was sorry and that she didn't know why nobody called me back. She told me that she would make sure that their techs get on my issue. A week after that, their guy came back and put my new faucet on. Since then, things have been great.
American Home Shield has nothing through which I could contact them. That's something that should be fixed because they would never know that I had a problem. Despite this issue, Home Shield is a wonderful service. Every time I've had a problem, their contractors have come out. If I put on AHS's site that I need some electrical or plumbing service, they get me their contractor that same day. I wait 24 hours, call the company and they come out. I wanna renew with AHS. I love this company.

My refrigerator wasn't cooling on the refrigerator side and it was overcooling on the freezer side. I called on the phone where there was a man who gave me instructions on how to file the claim. Then I did the actual claim online on my cellphone but my thing was saying that it wasn't working. So I emailed the guy who had helped me set up the home warranty back in March. I told him that I was having trouble making the claim and he said something about the account not having been fully activated. The fridge started having problems at the very end of May and since the guy had all the dates that I had signed up for it, he put it back to March.
That aside, I like the website. I do the filing mostly from my cell phone, never from the computer, and it's pretty easy. But I thought the process was gonna go really fast and I was surprised how slow the process was. That was the only thing. I figured maybe COVID had something to do with it so I just had to be patient. But being without the fridge for a little over a month though, the time was very frustrating. Other than that, all things considered, the technician from Big Kountry Appliance Repair was a big help. When he came in, he was professional, courteous and real quick. I also really liked the tracking emails that we get from the home warranty that shows the technician is on the way. That was a big help.
The repair has definitely been making life a lot easier. I'm excited that we have a fridge. Everything has been going real good. We have still been scared to put food into the refrigerator side because everything would go bad. When the fridge wasn't working, the milk was only keeping for three days and then on the third day, it would go bad. Today was the very first day that I put a gallon of milk in there and that's how I'm gonna know if the fridge is working or not. But I've also been putting some stuff that I know keeps a little longer in there. We have a little bit of groceries in there, like a little bit of fruits, and I've noticed they've kept cold. It is a good feeling to be able to use it and not have to worry about groceries that only last a day or two at a time.

The website is hit and miss at best. It seems that at a certain time of day, 3pm or so, you cannot reach Home Shield by telephone and you cannot get online on the site. It's like they turn everything off. If you call, you would sit and wait and wait. I waited for an hour one time, and no one came on. Next morning, no problem. But for older folks that are on Social Security, when your furnace or air conditioner goes, it's a huge expenditure that you're just not expecting. That's why I had the insurance. I had it for three and a half years with no problem.
Every time that I've had to call, I get a representative that is Oriental or Filipino or something along those lines. I was a nurse for 30 years and I had Oriental and Filipino doctors, and that's what their accent reminded me of. But they talked so quickly, I couldn't understand what they were saying. I would stop them and say, "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be hard to get along with, but you're talking too quickly. Please, slow down."
Crown Temperatures Heating & Cooling came out because my air conditioner wasn't cooling. They put Freon and a new seal. The first day, it didn't work. The house heated up. It was in the 90s outside and the house was like degrees. So I called them and told them it wasn't working. And they said, "Well, if it's not working, you need a new unit." They told me that it would cost me $2,400 because of modifications they had to make. I was angry because I had this home warranty so that I wouldn't have these big surprise expenditures.
I was going to cancel the insurance. When I finally got to talk to the person who was supposed to cancel the insurance, she explained everything to me in a way that I could actually understand. Pamela was very helpful and she explained to me that it wasn't the air conditioning unit itself that I was paying for. It was the modifications of that company felt they needed to make. She offered to send out another contract, which she did. She offered me $1,200 or something close to that that Home Shield pays if I decided to upgrade. About the Freon, Home Shield covers the first $10 for each pound of Freon that is needed. And that day ended up costing me $100 for the service call plus another $400 for the Freon. I asked Pamela, "Can you do any less?" The company pays $10 for each pound, and anything over and above, that is your responsibility. One of their exclusions.
When this other place, Engineered Climate Control, came out and looked at the unit, they said, "Yeah, well, you know, it's 13 years old. That's at the end of its life." Also, they told me that they already knew that Home Shield would pay this $1,200 and that they would charge me $1,700. And when I looked at what Crown said that I would owe, the $2,400, minus what Home Shield said they would give me, it was $1,200. So, that was really a better deal and Crown wasn't out of the ballpark as far as what they thought.
The unit is working now. The next morning, when I woke up, the house was cool, and it has been cool ever since. The Crown tech said, "If it's working, give yourself time to save the money." So, I've decided to wait until it dies and try to save the money. I know that it's an old unit and that it would go at some point, and I will use Crown when it does. The thing that I don't know is if I don't upgrade to a new unit right now, would Home Shield then not give me what they said they would give me. Crown wanted to do a deal under the table. And that got me to wondering if they use these referrals that Home Shield give them and then go out try to bill people and sell them new units when they don't really need one. But other than that, both contractors were good and very knowledgeable. For the most part, Home Shield has been there and they've been reliable when I needed them.

It was going up higher than what we set it at. So, Comfort First came out and looked at things, came out to check the Freon and make sure the filters were clean and different. They did recommend to change the filter and see how that does now. Comfort First was out yesterday for the second time. The first time they came, and it happened again. When Comfort First came out, they explained to us, "Well, you have so many days if this situation happens again." That was good information that they gave us, which we never knew before. So I called the Home Shield warranty and Precision Overhead told me that my whole garage door was so messed up. People had hammered the rails back together and it was gonna put too much of a drag on a new garage door opener. This would sound dumb but I went ahead and got a whole new garage door and everything is great now. At the time, I thought maybe I shouldn't need to do that. But having had the other people tell me the garage door was out of alignment and it was a problem, I felt that everything went well.

I like the service and if you're a homeowner, it makes more sense to stick with the combo plan. It's a no brainer and not everyone knows about it, so there's gotta be a better way to advertise to people. I didn't know about it until three months ago. We bought the house from the previous people, and they had it, so we ended up inheriting it through them. The only thing that I'm a little bummed about is that we have central air and something was a problem with the compressor. It was during the heatwave and I have an almost eight-month old baby, so I needed someone here immediately.
I ended up getting ahold of a place, and they came, but it wasn't through American Home Shield. I was hoping to get reimbursed because of the emergency situation. I got a response back saying that it was outside of what they do, so they were not gonna reimburse me. Other than that, things have been good.
