In the past, AHS has always been good. I had no complaints. I was with them for about 23 years and I noticed that over the years, they’ve just changed. They’re hard to get a hold of, number one. But number two, they’re just not as responsive as it used to be. This last occasion, I had a ceiling fan go out and I had to contact them using the computer. There’s nobody that picks up on the phone. They switched to offshore phone reception. I got an okay to have the fan fixed or replaced and had the electrician come out. He says, “Your bearings are shut. Might as well just buy a new fan.” I said okay. He put it in and sent a bill to AHS. I spent about 300 bucks for the fan. AHS, he said, generally makes good on about $80 to a $100 of it.

I never a received a reply, so I contacted AHS. I ask what’s the deal and they said, “We’re not gonna honor that. You didn’t get our permission to buy a new fan.” I said, “The electrician told me to, and he’s the guy that you sent out. So I assumed that it had your blessing.” They said no and it was, once again, an offshore situation.

It soured me with AHS. Their price has had gone up over the years, too. I have since found another company and that’s who I’m going with. This new company that I’m gonna be dealing with, I get the same coverage plus a little more for about $20 a month less. In fact, I have a letter that I’m mailing to AHS tomorrow telling them that I am done with their business.

We were having some problems with the water pressure in our home and I filed a claim with AHS online. Drain Go called when they said they would and I got a call on the same day. They came out and the gentleman did whatever check he does, went downstairs, and it was the water regulator. Everything has been working great since. I've had Drain Go come by before and they've always been very courteous and professional.

Sears did very well. The tech was very kind and he cleaned up all the area after he was through. He had to unload all my freezer stuff into a cooler, and when he got through and placed the part back in like it was supposed to be, he even lined up all my freezer stuff better than I did. So, I was very pleased. I've done other claims before and there was one time where there was a lack of communication. But they still sorted it out. It was a older oven and they couldn't replace the knobs on it, so they had to give me a new oven. Overall, American Home Shield is very kind and respectful, and they try to help out.

AHS doesn't have a local AC company here in Clermont. The two AC companies they use are located in Ocala, a place about three hours from where I live. It was 90 degrees upstairs in my house and I had to wait about five days to get somebody out. Fortunately, I've got AC units upstairs and downstairs, so I was able to use the basement part of the house. The contractor switched out the blown capacitor in the AC unit. It seemed to work, but that was four weeks ago. Now, my upstairs AC is not working again. I've had to call and have another appointment for them to come back out on Thursday. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with AHS.

I turned the spigot on, and water was spitting out all over the place. I called American Home Shield and I talked with a live person. I had to wait 50 minutes before they answered, then the rep finally came on and we talked. She took my money and put the claim in for me. She sent out the plumber and in the meantime, I couldn't wash any dishes and we had to use all alternatives until the unit was repaired. When the plumber came, he located the leak. He didn’t tell me where the leak was but he located everything that was needed. It took him 15 minutes to assess the problem and said it was bad. He told me to call American Home Shield to get a replacement and within five minutes, he said he would be back shortly. He called me in 30 minutes, came back and finished the job. He was professional and he did a good job. This claim was wonderful and everything's been good since.

We're happy with the way it was resolved.

    Original Review: June 30, 2020

Our air conditioning wasn't working and a tech came out. On his first trip last 11th of June, he didn't do much. He just walked around and checked the Freon. The air conditioner just got worse and worse and we didn't know why. We were about to call American Home Shield but we were out of town on Saturday. When we got home on Sunday afternoon and the house was 85 degrees.

My husband is a retired electrician and is probably a little more critical than most people. He was checking everything he could check on Sunday. He said the tech left the cap loose on one of the valves and all the Freon leaked out. The company said we have to pay $10 a pound for the Freon and we don't think that's fair. In the first place, he didn't have very good tools. He was in an unmarked truck that didn't have phone number of any kind info of who it belonged to. He was poorly equipped and my husband doesn't think he really knew what he was doing.

My husband says this was not a good experience and I would not recommend these people to anyone. We won't use them again and so should AHS. They have to find us someone else. In fact, we talked to the owner of the air conditioning company there in Livingston, All Pro. We told him that the man had left the cap loose and the Freon was gone. The tech even admitted yesterday that he left them loose. I said, "The only reason we had a horrible 24 hours is because you left the cap." He said, "Those caps are real hard to tighten up." But he put Freon in yesterday and he left them loose again. My husband had brought tools from his shop and went back out there to check, so he tightened them up yesterday afternoon. My husband said the tech was using 12-inch crescent wrench and that's not the proper tool to use on the service valves on an air conditioner.

We or American Home Shield should not have to pay for any Freon. We tried all day yesterday to reach AHS to tell them that the tech came back loosen the cap again. I wanna tell them that we or they shouldn't pay a bill. Quite frankly, I really need them to find us another repair service pretend we have a breakage somewhere. Because if AHS has one of those prevention plans where they come once a year and check things for you, I would rather go ahead and get to know them and have AHS put us on one of those annual visits.

Our air conditioner was cutting out and Home Shield assigned someone but the contractor wasn't responding. I called back and it took me forever to get somebody on the phone. It was a little frustrating to stay on the phone because we couldn’t handle it online. I wish their system allowed for a callback, which I know they hope to have fewer of than more. But it was a holiday weekend. And the rep apologized that we had to wait and that the system wouldn’t let us process it. Home Shield went the extra mile to find someone who would come out and we were very pleased. They sent Perry Mechanical out and their tech fixed the problem. We were well pleased with the experience.

I called the service on a Saturday morning, and we wasted time because a lot of the contractors didn't work on the weekends. It was kind of an emergency because my whole house was affected. The contractor talked to me and discussed the situation. This was after American Home Shield was very helpful in helping me get past that. We did waste a lot of time from 10:00 to 4:00 not knowing if a contractor would even do anything on a Saturday, and then this man did. So, it was a very good experience. He was excellent, too. It's just a little scary at first because it was an emergency and I couldn't get any service right away. American Home Shield should know the contractors’ availability on a weekend so we're not waiting around for nothing. But it is a great service. I'm glad to have it.

Sub Zero Mechanical was called in because the air conditioning broke. They came in and assessed the problem that was due to the faulty connection on the air conditioner side. They replaced the connection, but the problem was still there. We had to call a different company a second time and that time, they realized it was a problem with the fuse. The contractors are pretty good and knowledgeable. The last one kind of assessed the situation on his own because he wanted to replace the compressor. But we replaced it last year so I told him I didn't think it was the compressor that's why he referred it to an electrician.

It takes significant amount of time to get ahold of a person at AHS. I submitted this claim through the phone and spent probably 2 hours waiting. I forgot my password for the online account, so I had to use the phone. I didn't expect the wait time to be nothing less than an hour. Every time I call in, it's definitely at least an hour wait time. But once I got ahold of the person, the issue was resolved. Right now, everything is up and running. I'm satisfied with AHS. It's a reliable service and I would definitely recommend considering them as a home warranty company.

The stove was not heating up and it needed a replacement for the heating element. The Appliance Whisperer took care of it as soon as the part came in -- it took about five days to get it in. They immediately installed it, and it took them less than 20 minutes to fix it. If it is something American Home Shield can fix immediately, they fix it immediately. If not, it takes a day or two sometimes. I had my water heater changed about two years ago, and they did that within three days. I had to find a water heater and then it was replaced. So, I'm happy with the service. Sometimes, however, it is a little hard to get through on the phone. There's a little bit of a wait. But, the wait is about 10 minutes, so it is not traumatic.

Comfort First had to add a pound of freon to my air conditioner. The guy said I got a leak so he put a leak seal in it. He was a good guy. The pound of freon and the sealant that he put in there seem like they're holding. Everything seems like it's back to normal but I kinda hated that they couldn't check the seal. American Home Shield wouldn't let him find where the leak was. They had to come out there multiple times for them to get authorization from American Home Shield to check the leaks. At the end, American Home Shield only paid $10 per pound. That pound cost me 140 some dollars after the $10 being taken off. That's kinda expensive.

When Comfort First came out, they could have said they had all the equipment that they needed. I could have went out there and told them the model number of the air conditioner, what brand it is and what year it was built so when the guy came out there, they could have had everything they needed on the truck. He could have not come out 2 or 3 times to fix the problem and it could have been a one-time deal because they had all the information they needed.

I've had American Home Shield for a while and I never had any problems with them. However, back in the day, I was able to pick up the phone and call and talk to somebody. But now, I don't know if they are just busy but there's no more interaction with somebody you can actually talk to to get the situation resolved. I tried to talk to somebody, but when you try to talk to somebody, you’ll sit on the phone for hours before you can talk to one. I don't like waiting forever for somebody to pick up the phone.

My oven wasn’t working. Originally, Sears came out and they wouldn’t touch our oven because there’s no sticker on it. We purchased a brand-new home with the oven like that. I got frustrated with Sears initially because the guy came in and he wasn’t even there five minutes. Then, Home Shield sent out this other company, GilTech Appliance and they said the same thing. They said they believe it's a fuse but they couldn't touch it until Home Shield gives an approval. Home Shield hasn’t gotten back to me yet. I called in their customer service and I asked if they normally fix an appliance if it doesn’t have a sticker and the guy would not give me an answer. I got frustrated because I have six kids and we have no oven.

Also, it took a long time for them to repair our fridge. It took over two and a half weeks. The guy who did the fridge was super sweet and he was a really nice guy. It was just he ordered a part from one of his friends and it didn’t work. We had to wait twice as long. The fridge got fixed and we were very thankful for that but that experience has made us a little bit anxious. And I don’t want to have the same situation occur. If I need to go out and buy an oven, I’d rather just know than sit and wait. I was going to cancel our membership just because I feel like the customer service should be able to answer my question. It’s either they’re gonna be able to fix it without a sticker or they’re not.

We had an AC claim and the city had to come out and make sure the contractors did the repair right. The city had to approve it and the city didn't. The air is working fine. It's just the insulation on the outside was not covered or fixed properly or something like that around the hose. The contractor needed to come back out and someone has already been out. But then I got an email on Thursday saying they need to come back out. I called the office twice and no one knew what was going on and no one left a message.

We submitted a claim with AHS because our heat pump had gone out. Then within four days of the contractors putting the Freon in it, it all leaked out, so replacing that again. So, we filed another claim. Then three and a half weeks later, we finally got a heat pump. Baskett's Repair was great. American Home Shield was awful.

When the initial heat pump came in on the Monday before they installed it, it had been damaged in shipping. Baskett's sent it back, 'cause they said "Even if it worked initially, within five years you're gonna have a problem." They told AHS that they had to get a new heat pump. They did and then, something went awry with American Home Shield and they sent the purchase order to a different warehouse. When Baskett's got there on that Friday, which was the second Friday we had taken off, AHS had not paid the purchase order. Baskett's went above and beyond and said, "Just put it on our account. We'll make sure it gets paid." They were able to get the heat pump. 'Cause that was literally the last heat pump that was available that was there. Because the other ones because of COVID, the heat pump company was behind in their getting the heat pumps made. Baskett's went ahead, got the equipment and got it in and got it installed.

It took me over two hours on the phone with American Home Shield to try to get it corrected, to try to get them to pay the right purchase order. I haven't heard back from Baskett's and it's been a week and a half. So, I guess it got paid correctly finally. Finally, like after it was at least, about an hour and 40 minutes before I got a supervisor on the phone, which none of them could understand me, they couldn't speak English. When you're customer service, I need you to understand what I'm saying and she did not understand it. I finally told her, "You are not understanding or hearing or listening to me. If you do not pay that purchase order, I will file a Better Business Bureau complaint."

The heat pump is doing great. However, I said, "I'm gonna cancel. I am not using American Home Shield anymore. They're not getting any more money." The Baskett's Repair guy said, "On reality, I answer about 50 of their calls a month. This is the only one this month I've had a problem with. Just give them a chance." He stood up for American Home Shield and calmed me down. So, we're waiting to see if it's paid like it should have been. But Baskett's did great.

It wasn't working and a guy came in and shifted my oven and it's not working again. Other than that, I like having coverage with American Home Shield.

I had a leak under the refrigerator and Progressive Appliance, the contractor sent by American Home Shield, was great. The guy did the job he was supposed to do. He was polite, too. Everything was good. There was, however, a time mix-up. He came out shorter than a week and I was not living there at the time and so he had to come back. He was very nice about it, so he was cooperative. Then, I almost missed him again. He was so early and I was driving 50 miles to meet him. Overall, however, he was great. I also had a guy come out and look at the air conditioner. I was hoping that it was broken, but he fixed it. There was no problem with that either.

My air conditioner wasn't cooling and I sent in a claim to American Home Shield. I did my claim online. It was a lot easier. I was on hold for almost an hour trying to do my claim. Then I just pulled up the website while I was on hold and I got it done in a matter of minutes. The guy from Beaches came out and looked over the AC unit and he found that it was clogged. It took him maybe 30 minutes to hook up some machine and he unclogged the unit and that was it. He was great, very nice and very professional. Beaches called me to see if they could come earlier because they had a cancellation. So their guy came a little earlier than expected. He was very courteous, and he was pretty spot-on with checking out the machine and what it could be and what it ended up being. I was very happy with that. It was hot. I was very glad that they got out as quickly as they could because we were looking at a nice little heatwave here.

American Home Shield's claims process is very easy. I was very pleased. My oldest granddaughter and husband got into that program when they bought their house and they have been very happy. So that's how we came to decide we better get it just in case. We had a leak in our washer and it was the first time we had to use them. It was very easy and our problem got fixed.

We have a newer washer which weighs the clothing to know how much water to put in. Because of the leak, sometimes water would be left and there would already be water in the washer when we put the clothes in. But it was also dripping water constantly. So we weren’t getting as much water to wash our clothes. Maughanster Appliance Repair showed up right on schedule and there were no problems. The tech checked the washer out and found out what was wrong, and they had to order the parts. He said he would call us as soon as he got the part. It was a Friday or Saturday that he came. By Wednesday, they called us and had the part. We set up an appointment and he came and fixed it. And the washer has been perfect ever since.

The guy that American Home Shield sent did a great job but we have two compressors and he only fixed one. The second compressor was also having the same issue as the first. He said that he could only fix one at a time and that I would have to make another service call. The dude was here, it took him two seconds to replace the capacitor and he said that I gotta call AHS again. When I tell them that my air conditioners don’t work, they should fix them both. If someone says that he is here and he can fix the other one and it’s a $50 add on, then at least there’s a conversation. This guy did what he was supposed to do based on their contract with AHS but as both a homeowner and a businessman, that was both frustrating and idiotic. So, I’m waiting to see if that unit either completely breaks or what happens because it’s kinda working but it’s not totally satisfactory.

It would have been cheaper for AHS to have him fix it. If it keeps jumpstarting and breaks completely, then AHS gotta replace the whole darn thing. Sometimes, AHS is very shortsighted with the items versus what could be a bigger deal. My most current claim is still open and we’re almost a month into it now. I had a blockage in one of my bathrooms on the upper floor and it’s still blocked. The first time I submitted the claim, I was told that a certain plumbing company here in Chicago would be contacting me but they never did. So, after several days, I finally contacted AHS and asked if they were going to come out and fix my plumbing. They finally sent someone but he did not fix it. Then, he left. They needed to get beyond the toilet so that was a $400 fee to unscrew two bolts and pick a toilet up and move it.

When I contacted again the service company that was dispatched, they just said that they were not working with AHS. If I want them to come out, it’s a lot of money. I said that it was not the contract that I have. The contract says, “Fix it.” If something’s in the way, I either have to pay for the access or just provide the access, which means, I’ll unscrew the toilet and pick it up. I can do that. I finally got a supervisor at American Home Shield who said that they would send out the contractor and that they should be contacting me to schedule it. That was a week ago and I still haven’t heard from anybody. So, I’ve got plumbing that’s still not working and they haven’t fixed it. At some point, it starts to become a breach of contract.

These are the first two problems I’ve had and I’ve had American Home Shield for years. I had it in my house in Colorado and I had air conditioning problems at least twice a year, and AHS had sent people out and fixed it. Or not fix it, but at least they do what they could. I had a problem with my clothes washer and they got someone who fixed it. I own a rental house in Austin, Texas and the contractors came out and fixed the heating unit and the water pressure regulator. The plan either almost or sometimes more than pays for itself, but the execution of these two items lately has been frustrating. I’m not that upset about the air conditioner because it kinda works. If it breaks the compressor by doing this and the whole thing has to be replaced, the only concern I have is getting it through the house because it’s on the roof.

The issue about the plumbing is massively frustrating though. I have a bathroom I can’t use. We got four in the house so I don’t care in the short-term but I’d like to use the one that’s in my office, which is broken and no one has fixed it. The plumbing company even had the audacity to say that if I want them to come fix it, they have to drag some 500-pound piece of equipment upstairs to that bathroom. These houses in Chicago are very tall, narrow and have incredibly expensive fitting-out. So, they can’t damage my floors, my walls and any of the trim. They just need to come and fix it, and when it’s done, they have to have never been here.

I told the American Home Shield person that I didn’t want anyone to come out except them. The rep said that they would have to charge me another service fee. So, I said to them to get someone to come and fix it, don’t damage my house or the attorneys start getting involved and I’ll sue because this is just that frustrating. Whether it’s AHS for breach of contract or it’s the local plumbing company because they don’t know how to do work in the house without stirring it up, someone’s gotta get this done.

American Home Shield followed up on it to know if they had called me back because I didn’t hear from them in a reasonable time. But I didn’t give them time enough to respond to me. I was kind of rash with them, but they took care of it. I paid $50 something, and the co-pay was what we would expect to pay. I never agreed with paying money. We had to pay a co-pay of $75. The contractor came and did the repair, but it was so bad. I thought that I was being too fussy and sent a picture to my son. He said that I couldn't live with that. I then sent a picture to a guy at my church and he said that he'd come over and look at it. He said that it was horrible. He got a drywall man for me who did the repair.

AHS said to call the company back. Ordinarily, I can put up with repeat visits, but they refused to come back. They said that they couldn't do it any better. I called them and said that it was unacceptable. He said that it was for a roof repair. I didn't expect them to paint it. I hired a professional painter to come in and paint. The painter gave me an estimate of $167 to redo the repair. It was an unacceptable situation. At that point, I was over it. It took a week to get the repair done with the plumbing. They had to make three trips and they sent four different men into my home. I’m a state nurse for COVID and I work with COVID patients, so this was a risk to them more than me. The last two plumbers that came did not have masks. I told them to go back and that they couldn't come into my house without a mask.

AHS saves money in the long run but you work for it. And you have to pay 100 bucks for the service call, which I understand because people would call for dumb stuff. I called twice on other things and both of the repairs did not require parts. They were basically free calls for AHS but I didn't know that when I called them. I’m a widow and I live alone. It’s probably worth it for someone in my circumstance. It’s not worth it if you have a man that’s handy who can pull out a washing machine and look behind it to see if there's a dead squirrel in there.

My heating issue was also sent to Extreme Heating & Air (the same piss poor company with horrible ratings who American Home Shield arranged for my AC issues). Neither job was completed yet my American Home Shield work orders state complete. I have paid to have 2 other HVAC companies come out to get an estimate on the repairs. I come out cheaper if I do not use my so called home warranty. Extreme Heating & Air never addressed the heating element.

They have only made one service call to my house and that was for the AC. They stated my AC compressor needed to be replaced. The two other companies that came out told me the compressor was indeed out but the heater converter switch needed to be replace, and the condenser coils on my AC were corroding. They both told me it made no sense to just replace the compressor. They stated it seemed Extreme Heating & Air was trying to secure trouble shooting visits because just replacing the compressor would cause the unit to overheat and the circuit breaker to continue to trip. (Lining their pockets in a sense with repeat business on incomplete jobs) Both companies told me rather I use them or not I would need a new unit.

Extreme Heating & Air would cost me over $1000 out of pocket just to replace the compressor. I can get a refurbished unit for a little over $600 through either of the two HVAC providers I called for 2nd opinions and price comparison. American Home Shield dropped the ball on their contractor selection and lacks with the follow ups. If I want the issues resolved I must go outside my contract and that makes my home warranty absolutely worthless and a waste of money.

Our ac went out, filed a claim with AHS. On the 3rd day of no contact we called AHS back to advise no contact from THEIR contracted vendor. Finally got a call from vendor. Vendor looked at unit and said it needs to be replaced. Called AHS back to advise them and asked them at that time what kind of out of pocket expenses to be expected. We were told it should all be covered. We had also called a few years ago to confirm by having this warranty there would be minimal to no out of pocket expenses for items that need repair or replacement, got the enthusiastic “none you will be covered!” I have kept this warranty specifically for the hvac system because I knew buying this house they would go out eventually. So this is 2 times I have been told the units would be covered. Again, called in and spoke to a representative from AHS to confirm this.

Got a call today from AHS stating they will pay 1500 and I have to pay over 2400. Not certain where the breakdown in communication between the 2 reps I spoke to and the lady that was barely able to be understood today came in to play. This lady referred me to my contract that states AHS will it up to 1500 per contract term for repairs to ac unit. Again, I have spoken to 2 AHS reps, one last week, that told me the opposite. Now I am expected to pay 60% of the cost of the unit and labor, not to mention whatever the cost of Freon will be since they also state they will only pay $10 per... The issue from what the AHS supplier vendor is that the compressor is bad. I’m not asking for an entire system replacement like they are telling me it needs. I just want what I have repaired.

I don’t care about who what when or why, I was told by 2 AHS reps over the last 5 years this was covered which is why I have spent over $700 a year to keep this warranty. I want a resolution immediately. Also, the vendor AHS supplied warned me of this when he was here, which prompted the call to AHS last week to verify the unit is covered. He also told me the other unit I have needs to be replaced as well but AHS will not replace both. So my question is, what is this warranty for if AHS says they cover and then when time comes for them to pay, they pay 40%?? This sounds like a Bbb complaint or possibly insurance commission complaint. I’ll wait a few days to see if I get resolution.

On the 3rd plumbing visit, the contractor suspected a separation in my plumbing just outside of the foundation. AHS denied the claim stating that they only fix issues under the foundation. On this last plumbing visit, I paid $200 to have the technician run a camera in my lines and he confirmed the separation outside of the foundation but he also found 2 additional separations under the foundation.

AHS is denying that claim as well because he found roots in the separations. With pipes broken under the foundation and a steady supply of water, where do you think roots are going to go!? The separations are toward the back of my house and there are no trees anywhere near but because of the steady supply of water, roots have grown to these separations - but still, AHS has yet another excuse not to pay for anything. It was a complete waste of money to get the home warranty - save yourself hours of on hold time just to talk to a foreigner that you won't be able to understand just to be given yet another excuse as to why your home warranty won't cover it.

I have American Home Shield on two homes and I’ll probably continue to put it on any home that we need to. It’s convenient for those that just aren’t handy in the least bit so they can just call or schedule somebody. Typically, AHS takes care of it within that first $100 service call. Very rarely have I had to pay on top of that. I think it was for electrical stuff one time. Also, my mom is older, so it gives her peace of mind knowing she can just call and get somebody out there. It's just that I don’t think I understood the structure of the contract when I initially signed up. I knew it was like month-to-month and that I can cancel it anytime. But as I called them and kinda dug into it, there was some contract in play, and I still didn’t know the details or something was wrong in there. I don’t really care too because things are going okay.

Allstate Plumbing Colorado was fantastic and they recently came out for our garbage disposal. They were seamless as far as scheduling it and them calling me. I scheduled it through AHS. They called me, and within a couple of days, we had somebody at the house. The technician was knowledgeable and explained the reasons why the garbage disposal was messed up. Not only that, when he was messing with it, my mom was interacting with him a lot, but he was really cognizant and aware of making other things dirty. He laid out towels and made things really nice on the floor, on the wall, and little details like that. He was good and professional. Overall, we were very pleased.

They really are really cool and very professional people. I was very impressed with their service. When he came back out the second time, the issue ended up being the shutoff on the side of the house. There's a breaker right by the AC unit and the tab was just old on it. When the tech pulled it out, it came off. When he replaced that, everything came right back up like it was supposed to. The unit is doing really good.

It was cool that it was the same tech that came. He just happened to be on call. He was really good about telling me everything he was doing. Instead of just doing it, he explained, "Hey, this is what's going on, and this is why, and this is what it controls." For someone who doesn't know and a homeowner, it makes me kinda feel a little bit better because somebody's just not messing around out there. He really does nice work. American Home Shield is great. I had never had to call them. But now that I've had to, I'm super happy I have them. I bought the house a year ago and my real estate agent bought this home warranty as a gift for me. It was awesome.

The AC was making a horrible noise. I called Home Shield and they set it up and gave me Sierra Mechanical Services' number. They said I could either wait or I could call them directly and I called because we were approaching a weekend. It had been pouring rain and they were behind, which I get. I asked to be put on a list of if there were any cancellations and they agreed. Then, they came out two days before they were supposed to. They did a great job scheduling and getting us taken care of.

The techs did exactly what they needed to do, told me what was going on, and answered questions about the unit because we had just purchased the house and it’s different than the other units we had in the past. They resolved the issue that they could take care of and they did a good job. But our warranty should be able to cover the house and the way they set up the ductwork, didn’t.

The salt for my chlorinator stopped working and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield through my computer. Their website works fine but AHS needs to have more people on their telephones. It takes forever to get through to anybody. Plus, when I have past claims, I can't get a hold of anyone. For my chlorinator claim, AHS sent Splash Pool Care and the tech they sent was great. He checked my chlorinator and thought it was okay but then it wasn't. Regardless, he fixed it in the next couple of days. Splash has repaired a couple of things for me in the last couple of years. They replaced what was broken and my chlorinator is working fine now. Splash followed up and made sure everything is working. This has been a very easy experience.

I had a claim with American Home Shield on an appliance issue. Precision Appliance Repair came out, and their guy found out that it was just a discharge vent that was clogged up. He just put a thermostat in there. So, regardless, it’s working fine. It clogged up. I got an email from AHS that they aren’t responsible for it. They don’t fix the maintenance on it. So, I got it taken care of.

Having American Home Shield is worth the money. I got it because I bought this house new. It’s a new build. It's almost 12 years old now. So, I figured I'm gonna start having problems with everything in it because everything was new. I looked at four other competitors and AHS seemed a little more professional type with what they offered versus the cheaper ones that didn't really have a bunch of stuff that I know is gonna cost money when it goes out. We were gonna sell the house after keeping it. So, I figured I’d get insurance on everything else.

The only thing is I didn't get the login at first. It took a while to get through on a call, but on the second time, I just went into my account with them and put it in there, and it was really fast after that. Now, I know how to log in. I was able to speak with somebody. I told her exactly what was going on. When the service guy got here, he knew exactly what was wrong before he even looked at it. So, that was pretty fast. I did tell a bunch of my friends that have their own homes about AHS.

The contractor was on time and they were very professional. They wore masks. The guy gave me some tips about the sink and the garbage disposal in the kitchen. He fixed everything that I needed and explained everything that he fixed. There really wasn’t an issue in the kitchen like I thought there was. It was a matter of allowing time for the water to drain because of the disposal. I also had a clogged shower drain upstairs, which was just sediment that had settled in the shower head and he said to try to flush that once a year. That would alleviate the weak water pressure.

My condo was newly built when I got the coverage from American Home Shield and I may have only had two claims but I continued to keep it. There was an $8 increase in price that was surprising because I wasn’t told. That was fine but I would like a notice. I set up automatic payments so I thought that at the end of the year, it would renew on its own. They sent me something in the mail two months after it increased so it was then that I understood that my new contract was a bit higher.

The young man from Epic Mechanical was very knowledgeable and he came in. He didn't dally along. After I explained whatever was going on, he knew exactly. That’s what I appreciate. He did his work and then he left. The only thing that I don’t appreciate with the warranty thing is they make you wait 48 hours. My payment just came out of the bank, and I didn’t appreciate not being able to have service prior because they have to wait till my money clears because after five times of using, nothing’s bounced, and I hadn't stopped payment. But they make me wait till that’s over and then they make me wait 24 hours again. But there again, if I called a service guy, especially with air conditioner right now, it would be two days probably, anyway so there are pros and cons.

I actually did not think I’d use AHS this much, but there’s been something all the time and that’s the way houses are. The guy came to do my drain out one day. I asked how much was his cost. He said it would've just been $125. I had to pay 100 which is fine. Everything is gonna balance out. Then if I had a man to call, there may have been a different attitude. I tried to unstop the hose from the air conditioner another time and the guy said that if I would've done it, I would've probably caused this. I’ve lived in this house 50 years and I was telling him what's going on.

One time, he said, “Ma’am, would you send your husband? You don’t know what you’re talking about.” That’s my peeve, is I don’t appreciate that from people. He could’ve been having a bad day. This man may have had controversy, but when I called him on the phone, that was the first time that I was irritated. I called the company rather and they said, “Don’t you think there's other people that’s got air conditioners out too?” I told them that I called them on Saturday and I only got service on Wednesday. I explained to them it would only take them five minutes, that there were other people ahead of me. So, that’s bad. But other things like my refrigerator, which was a recall because they didn't fix my problem the first time, but they came right back when I called. They didn't wait for that 24 hours for my money to come out and then another 24 hours to send somebody out. Without that, the service has been great with everybody.

The only reason that I bought American Shield is my granddaughter bought a house. We were kinda devastated because the real estate people would come and check everything. The heat and air conditioner went out right after she got the house and she had that warranty. It was really a blessing. She had the choice that they would fix it, but then she gotta pay all this. But they gave her $1,900 toward a new one, which paid half of it. That’s where I have told everybody that if they have a house like this one and there's a problem all the time…I definitely would recommend it.

Prior to this claim, I've had a garage door issue and a thermostat issue that I've filed claims for with AHS and those claims went fine. With AHS though, if their contractor doesn't have a part, they gotta go back and order it. This should be much quicker in this day and age. A lot of parts can come overnight. We're still without a refrigerator right now and though we have a backup it would be nice if things were expedited. I can understand a few days, but anything over a week seems awful long. Usually when that happens, I know enough to turn it off because it’s gonna burn up the compressor. So, I turned it off for 24 hours and then turned it back on, and everything seemed to be running fine. But I didn't cancel the appointment because it was over the weekend and I just wanted someone to come out and look at it regardless.

Greenway sent a super nice guy. He was very professional. I told him everything was running fine, and it had been for a couple days. He went through it, checked the pressures and everything and said everything seemed to be running fine. There was a dust storm here in Tennessee. I sprayed down all the coils too and it seems that I was able to fix it myself. But I wanted a professional to look at it just to make sure there was nothing more wrong with it. He didn't have to fix anything, but I asked him to just check the system and make sure everything was working properly. That was what he did. So far, American Home Shield has been great.

Due to this AC claim I made over a week ago, I'm in 100+ weather. Home Shield sent a technician the next day. They were very good about sending a technician right away. The problem is rather than allowing the company that they contracted with to get the part, Home Shield said, “No, we're going to order the parts,” so it takes them three to five days to order the parts, and then they have to ship the part to the contractor. I'll be sitting here for two weeks without AC because Home Shield has an inefficient system when it comes to that. But when Five Star Plumbing came out to do a garbage disposal, they were also right over the next day and the tech was very good. I'm satisfied with Home Shield. AHS sends somebody out and they do their repairs. I can't complain about that. The reps are also very accommodating. When you get them on the phone, they're very nice. But I've not been very happy with AHS lately. My experience used to be great with their service. But in the last couple of years, it's not been as good. In fact, I was thinking of changing. There's another company that's been advertising and I've thought about switching to them and see how they are.

Submitting claims with AHS is difficult in a lot of ways. They used to have staff working in the United States but now, you get people in the Philippines and it's very difficult to communicate with them. The reps probably understand me better than I understand them with their accents. I'm a senior, and in a lot of ways, maybe that has a lot to do with my communication. I've also been on hold one day for 45 minutes. I've even pushed the button to get their accounting department so maybe I could speak to somebody but it's the same thing. You're on hold forever for them. I like those companies where you can put your phone number in and hang up, then they call you back when they have a line available.

The plumbing company was great. I had to get a hot water replaced, so it took them a few days to get that in and then they installed it right away. I did have to pay 460 out of pocket for different items, which I wasn’t expecting, but I covered that. Overall, Home Shield is pretty efficient. But I would evaluate the annual premiums.

Northwind Heating and Air came out due to a service call that went through AHS. It was for the air conditioner in my family room and they were the preferred vendor. Submitting the claim on the website was easy. The website said that we would hear from somebody within 24 hours and we did. We don’t always turn the air conditioner on, but that week, we were expecting 100-degree weather so we wanted to make sure that it was working. The contractor was very professional. Due to COVID-19, he put all of his protective protocols in place. He didn’t take very long to fix the air conditioner. AHS has been very efficient. I received an email from them reminding me of my home warranty, and that was nice.

Updated on 07/01/2020: July 1. In response to my Consumer Affairs review (complaint) on June 28, someone finally responded today and said "We do apologize for the inconvenience and your work was not properly done. It is not our intent to cause your experience difficult. We do appreciate you for sharing your experience. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further." In a second (not public) email they said "An email has been sent as well as a form of contact." They have NOT DONE THIS. STILL WAITING. The least they could do is send an email. I am NOT going to call and sit on hold for an hour only to have them tell me they cannot transfer the call anywhere and hang up.

Original Review: I have been trying to get a problem with my duct work resolved since June 5. There is no air flow. The air conditioner works, but no air flow. Rather than send a company that works with deck work, they sent an HVAC company. He said my duct work was never connected. In a 15 year old building with no prior problems. I spent two full weeks trying to get them to give me a second opinion from someone that knew something about duct work. FOUR times I was told they were escalating the problem then was told it was never escalated. The call was then disconnected. Every call, I had to wait on hold for at least an hour. Twice after holding for two hours, the call was disconnected. I finally got into a 20 minute fight with a rep trying to cancel my contract. He kept telling me what a great company they are.

Finally transferred me (another 10 minute hold) to someone that spent another 10 minutes arguing with me before she finally cancelled it at the end of the month (July 4). An hour later they assigned another HVAC company who could schedule me in 4 days later to see what the problem is, but they do not do duct work. No one ever showed. When I went back to the appointment information, Found that the appointment was canceled. As this has taken almost a month, and they charged me $75 for the service call and my duct work has not magically healed itself, tell me: WHAT GOOD IS A SERVICE COMPANY THAT ONLY TAKES YOUR MONEY BUT PROVIDES NO SERVICE? Would I recommend them? NO Way in hell. AMERICAN HOME SHIELD: WE TAKE YOUR MONEY BUT PROVIDE NO SERVICE.

Fast Response Heating and Cooling in Columbus, OH does not provide quality service, has 1 star customer satisfaction ratings, fraud alert on their profile, and not BBB accredited. Unfortunately, they were sent to service my AC unit by an AHS, which was good to me for 20 years. My AC unit is 30 years old, and this company refused to address the issues like freon leaking, which is bad for environment, next to nothing cooling performance, therefore making it running non stop (super loud) with little relief from summer heat and humidity. Fast Response Heating and Cooling send 2 technicians, where first changed the outside valve, that produced small leak that was not there before, and filled my half dead unit with $327 worth of freon, plus collected $75 service fee. I called and left the message the same evening, stating that house was hot as before.

Second tech was a young woman, Brooke, she really gave her best to check out the unit (unlike Robert), and I liked her cheerful and easygoing personality, and I guess I really wanted it to work out this time... But a week later another man came, Chris is his name, he came only to offer me the deal to buy the whole new unit plus the furnace for $$, stating that he will submit a replacement claim to AHS, but it's unlikely that they will pay, since AHS is about putting band aid. I was surprised when days later, called AHS and was told that replacement was not recommended, and my AC is working just fine.?? He has lost interest when I turned down his personal replacement offer. The office personnel is not helpful and wants me to go away.

There was a lady that came out and I was unhappy with her because she just tried to tell me what was wrong. To file a claim with AHS, I just go online and pick what product is broken and what brand it is. Then I usually get a text on my phone that says, “Your claim has been assigned to a company. Here's their phone number. They will be calling you soon.” The contractor usually calls really quickly. Sometimes, it takes longer to get an appointment, depending on what it is, but nothing has been outrageous.

Their contractors have been great. My AC went out when it was 107. I put in a claim at 4 o'clock in the afternoon and someone got out here the next morning at 11:00. The issue was the capacitor. They had the product in their car and they were able to fix it, which was awesome. He also said, “Let's check all your filters.” I had a washable filter that I didn't know existed and I had 12 years of dirt in it. He said that he was gonna wash it out with a hose for me and cleaned it. He also told me what to do. I felt really stupid, but it was really nice of him. I also had the power go out in half of my house. The electrician who came out was super-knowledgeable and friendly. He also explained everything.

I've been very happy with AHS. People always say that I'm wasting my money on the home warranty. But I say that I'm not. My house is 12 years old and it’s at that age where microwaves start not working. AHS has worked out for me really well. I wish it was a little cheaper a month. But when I had a dryer break and they tried to fix it, they realized that it was unfixable so they replaced it with a brand-new dryer from Lowe's.

I had another experience which has been terrible. When we moved in, we found that the refrigerator didn't work. We called in on the 25th of June and told AHS the model of the refrigerator. It took them a week to get somebody out here. The person who first came out didn't work on that particular brand of refrigerator so he didn't do anything. He told us to shut it off because it could create some problems if we kept it running. And then it took AHS two days. I called a lot of times, and they rescheduled somebody else who just came out this past Wednesday. It turns out that they don't work on this refrigerator either. Meanwhile, I've been without a refrigerator for two weeks and I have been unable to get ahold of anybody. I've tried calling the number and they're supposed to call when they get the report from the repair person. I’m very unhappy with that. I don't know what they expect to do in a house with no refrigerator during a pandemic. it's crazy.

It was the tracks and I didn't know if Home Shield covered any of the cables. But when the contractor told me that, I just had to call Home Shield and cancel that order and do it myself. I paid $182 to get my garage door fixed, and I paid my copay with Home Shield so I hope they would give me my $100 back. I never had any problems with them much other than that. They ought to have a place where they can communicate with their customers. Their site says they have a chat but then they don't have one. The only way I can do that is over the phone where their reps say "Go online". The only thing that I can do online is file a claim. Plus when I call in, I sit for 45 minutes with music in my ear waiting and waiting. Other than that, their site is fine. Their contractor Veteran Heating & Air Conditioning contacted me and we set up an appointment for their tech to come out. He was very good. He came right out, and he fixed it right away. American Home Shield has been good. I've been with them for 10 years and what makes me renewing is that I don't worry about finding a service person. They fixed my pool pump a few times, as well as my AC unit and my garage door opener. I’m happy with it.

The AC was running all day long and it wasn’t staying cool all the time. I placed my claim for it and I. got a call the next day. The tech from Jungle Cat thought it was freon, but it only worked for less than seven days. Then the tech came back and said that the compressor was bad and it took another four days to get that order in. Other than that, Jungle Cat was good. They communicated via text, through an app, or called us if they had a delay or had issues finding the house and they seemed to always be very polite and clean and on time. American Home Shield needs to make sure they do their research and understand exactly what their policy is. But they were good and they took care of us. I would recommend them.

I submitted a request online with AHS for service and then United Air Temp followed up. When the tech, John, came out they had to regas the unit. John was very knowledgeable and was able to assess what the situation was and what needed to be done right away. Within 20 minutes or less of him being here, he had the house cooling already. I was very happy with the service provided. After he came out, it was more comfortable to be inside, so it made a big difference to everybody.

I went back on the email and found the number to call to put in a request. I called and somebody said that they would confirm then I received a text message from the service person. I was happy that it seemed as if he located the problem right away and fixed it. Thank God, everything is working fine right now. It was pretty quick. This is an overview of my ongoing issue with trying to have my air conditioning fixed: March 21st - Service requested for air not getting cold. April 9th - Service completed (paid $1,000 out of pocket for coolant). May 27th - Service request made for air not getting cold again (48 days later). I was told because it has been over 30 days that I would have to pay another service fee ($107.00). May 30th - Technician arrived and determined there was no coolant present and it all had leaked out. He stated that he would return in a few days with tools to determine where the leak is originating. June 9th - I called the contractor (Comfort Experts) to inquire when someone would return to check the leakage.

June 10th - Contractor arrived to state that the leak was in the Compressor and he would put in the request for a new Compressor on that same day. June 16th - I called the contractor to check the status and I was told to contact AHS as the contractor was waiting on the purchase approval from AHS. June 19th - I contacted AHS regarding the purchase of the compressor and was told that AHS did not receive the request until June 16th and it was approved on this day June 19th and would now be purchased.

June 24th - I contacted AHS again and was told that the compressor was STILL not purchased and the customer service representative stated that she would place me on hold and assure that the compressor will be ordered on that day and when it arrive, I would have to pay another out of pocket expense of $500.00 for the coolant.

June 27th - Today. At this point, I'm still waiting. I have paid over $1,200 in expenses in the last 3 months and expected to pay an additional $500.00 and I still do not have working air in my home with temperatures in my house reaching above 90 degrees. No one calls to update me on the status and apparently nothing is being done with the work order until I call. Only the days when I call is there any action taking place. There should be some type of compensation for this extreme inconvenience as well as this being a health issue. My 9 year old daughter suffers from nose bleeds when she is overheated. She has had 3 nose bleeds in her sleep since my air has not been working. I purchased a couple of fans two months ago but she cannot have these blowing directly on her because they cause a sore throat. Still Hot & Waiting for Service...

We used American Home Shield for the toilet and the man who came out was really nice. He used the snake thing and even told me how to use the stuff to put in there to get the marks out when you use the snake because I had a little bitty one. But four days later, the problem was there again. We thought maybe it was toilet paper. He told my husband not to use too much toilet tissue but he’s blind, so he doesn’t know how much he’s getting.

A week later, when the toilet did the same thing, the tech came back. Then nine days later, it did the same thing. We live in a condo, so I was calling around to see what to do. At the time, I couldn’t get a hold of American Home Shield and I didn’t know if I was supposed to call him or not, or if he would even come, if it was in the contract. So, I ended up calling Roto-Rooter and I had to pay $145 for them to come do the same thing the other guy did. It's been good ever since. But it cost me over $300 to get all of this done.

I was gonna get a hold of American Home Shield because I think they should refund us but when I call, I'm on hold forever or it just keeps ringing. And I wanted a human being. I don’t wanna just be on hold for 40 minutes. All in all, I was dissatisfied with their service. We've been using American Home Shield for 11 years and they're not as good as they used to be. The contractors I get are not really good like they were about three years ago. The last few times, they didn’t fix things and we were left thinking what to do next. We’re both disabled, so we can’t do these stuff. So, I feel like we should get some kind of refund and not something that they credit because I don’t know if I'd even use that.

I call American Home Shield when I have a claim. One time, water was leaking from the upstairs bathroom down to the ceiling downstairs. When I got the rep on the phone, I told her this was the same thing that had happened about a year ago and I asked if she was sure she was sending me somebody. She said they would send me somebody and the guy from Anywhere Plumbing Repair came. When he said he had fixed it, I asked if he was sure. I told him that if not, I was gonna call him back but that I was hoping I wouldn't have to call him back after my 30 days was up and I would have to pay. He said no, that he had taken care of it. He also explained some things to me. He showed me what he thought it was. So I was satisfied. I'll just hope that it’ll hold up and that he fixed what he said was fixed. So far, it hasn't dripped yet. The guy who did the work was also polite and extra nice. If I ever have another plumbing problem, I would want Home Shield to send them.

I also had one issue where American Home Shield had to send an air condition company. But the tech came four times and couldn't fix the problem. He charged American Home Shield for two parts that weren't the problem. I asked American Home Shield what this guy was telling them. They kept sending him out here even though he didn't know what the problem was and then they were making me pay for this guy too. I also had to pay for Freon and then the second time he came, he let the Freon out. So I wasn't pleased with that.

I asked American Home Shield to send somebody else. I had never heard of anybody letting out air and Freon. I didn't think I should have to pay for Freon and then they were gonna charge me again for Freon when came back? Why did we have to pay for so much Freon and especially for something that the repair people were messing up? I had to talk to a special team and then somebody else. Then a lady had to call me and she finally got the situation done.

They set me up with someone else that came out the next day. I've had them now for two years and I've been very pleased with the service. Three days after my renewal with AHS, I had a pipe go in my bathroom and then my dryer decided to stop working. But it was great. I haven't had a single issue with anything that I've had to have done.

I was on hold for 30 minutes prior to being able to get ahold of somebody from AHS because of COVID but as soon as I got someone, they were right on the ball. They messaged me back, they called me, and they gave me updates for how far the driver was out. I paid ahead of time. The people came right out, did my repair and left. They were really nice, too. They got good companies working for them and I was happy. AirBoss came out for my dryer and they were very professional and they were on time.

I used them a couple weeks ago when we had 110 temperature. My AC had stopped and I called. I figured it would be quicker on the phone but I couldn't get them on. Then I went online and did it, and I got a response almost immediately. They sent me an email and gave me a number to call if I needed somebody sooner. I called and asked if they could get here later that afternoon. But about an hour later, the air conditioning just came back on.

I called the contractor and told him he didn't need to come that day but that I'd appreciate the visit the next morning just because it should be happening. He came and what it all was was a loose wire. He checked it out and it did something strange so he checked something else and that was it. So I'm happy. It's working. My AC is 20 years old and I'm hoping that that's all that's wrong with it because we're having pretty warm weather. But I have had no problems with the warranty. I think that eventually, it would pay for itself. If my AC goes out, that will run me about $70,000 but it shouldn't run me that much with the American Home Shield.

I called their office and talked with the main lady there and she told me they work mainly with American Home Shield and then she told me to call around a couple of other places but she knows a lot of them are American Home Shield. I called other businesses as well and it seemed like everybody around here works with American Home Shield and had nothing but good things to say about it, so I switched in a heartbeat. I love that I have American Home Shield.

Recently, some parts of my washing machine needed replacing. I called it in and the representative I spoke to was courteous. I asked him about the lint vent of my dryer because it stopped fitting in there properly. Even though he wasn’t there for that service, he went through it and explained to us how to clean out the inside and then we probably have to go online to order a new piece for it. He was helpful. He said it could be a week to two weeks to expect the contractor out because he had to order the part, and with COVID going on, it could take a little bit longer but they would keep in touch with us if it took longer than two weeks. I loved the work done when Sears came out. It was perfect. The guy wasn’t even there very long. He put everything back the way it belonged and cleaned up his mess.

There was a time when my AC wasn't cooling the house. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and their contractor Advanced Heating came out multiple times. The first time they did, they thought the issue was one thing and said they would have to come back again. Another tech came out and he said the issue was a different thing. They had to order parts and came out again to replace the second issue that they mentioned. Plus, they also filled my AC with coolant. Within a week, the AC wasn't keeping our house cool again. The contractor sent someone out again and he found a leak along the line between the inside and outside unit. He repaired that line and everything seems to be working okay now.

Our first plan with AHS was annual and then payments became month-to-month. Also, they randomly changed our contract. Originally, it included $250 of code upgrade and they removed that completely when they updated my contract which was kind of annoying. Plus it is sometimes confusing what they may or may not cover. We had someone come out one time 'cause we noticed some water leaking and the tech who came said the issue was probably a seal in our shower. So, that wasn't something that AHS would cover. The day they came for the first AC repair and replaced something for our AC, our water heater went out. They replaced the water heater as well but it took a week for that to get replaced.

My very first service call with AHS went well. It was for an air conditioner and the contractor that they selected came in less than an hour and a half. It took the second contractor about four days to come out and we were uncomfortable. We’ve been having 90-degree weather and now, the air conditioner went again. We've had to wait 12 days. I have called AHS numerous times to see if they would give us a different contractor. I have not been able to reach anyone on the phone. I’ve waited on the phone for 30 minutes on hold. I have also gone to their Facebook page twice and written a comment telling them about our situation and that we are seniors. Meanwhile, we keep getting emails from them asking us to renew our contract.

When we ask for service, we’re supposed to hear back from the contractor within 24 hours to make an appointment. But this last time, we did not hear back in 24 hours. After waiting almost two days, I called the contractor and say that we called for service. They told us that they couldn't come until July 6th. But with the plan, you can’t just arbitrarily call somebody else to come and service you.

The air conditioning wasn’t working properly, and AHS had someone put freon in. And recently we have a leak in my shower and AHS sent a plumber to look at the leak. He couldn’t find anything at the moment, so we have an open hole in my kitchen because we need to use the shower to see where the leak is coming from. I like that I can get someone to come in. And so far both of the companies that have come in have been good companies. I like that about AHS. But what I don’t like is that I would call up and have to wait on hold for hours.

I canceled the claim online because we were having another leak and I needed someone to come here, and we were able to fix the spout itself ourselves. But we have to wait on the line to get someone to come. Then when they did finally get someone, they didn’t put it in as an emergency. So, that was a little frustrating to me. And then, this last experience was not a good one. We canceled it when we found out what the problem was, and we found out that we could resolve it ourselves because it was with the lever that opens and closes the water for the whole house, and there was a leak that was coming out of it, and then it was in an unfortunate place. We had a friend who does home repair and he said, “Just try this.” When we did that it worked.

AHS has good service. I just need them to have better people answering and have a better response on the phone. I don’t wanna wait an hour and a half on the telephone on hold. It was crazy. We just put the phone down and just waited. And the other thing is when we say it's an emergency, it's an emergency. They called this place out in Long Island who was going to come here, and when we finally got in touch with them they said, “Oh, no. They said that we'll be out there on Monday.” We don’t have any water in my house so that was a big mistake.

And unfortunately, sometimes, it's because people don’t understand. And the two people that we got to speak to didn’t speak English. So, that needs to be changed. Otherwise, it's 100% perfect. I've had other people who have said the same thing to me, that they're very satisfied with the service that they received, which I was satisfied with the service. That was the only thing.

And another thing that happened is that when this woman called me from American Home Shield and said to me, “The contractor wants to know what time it is in your area.” I was like, “I'm sorry. What?” And she said, “They wanna know what time it is in your area.” I said, “If you're sending someone from a different time zone, it's gonna be too far. It's 2:30 in the afternoon. What time is it in their area?” So, finally, then I got a call from the woman from the plumbing company. She said, “I don’t wanna know what time it is. I wanna know what town you're in.” So, there definitely is a language barrier issue that needs to be addressed.

At the beginning, there was confusion. But finally, the work was done. However, they brought a unit that was put in and I started having problem with it yesterday. I'm afraid for my ceiling now because I have water leaking through my air vent. I called American Home Shield yesterday, but it took a while because they had their website down. So I had to wait up to three to four hours before I could talk to someone on the phone. When I finally talked to someone, I got help. Overall, I am satisfied with the work by American Home Shield, except when you call as it takes a while.

My stove and oven wasn't working so I called American Home Shield to file a claim and they were very knowledgeable. They helped me. They got everything scheduled out for me and sent me a follow-up as to what company was going to come out and that they would be reaching out to me. The technician from Calvary Appliance Repair gave me a window of time but he also said that he knows I work far and that he will call me with a little bit extra time to let me know he was coming so I don't have to wait around. He was very helpful, very professional and friendly. He troubleshooted everything and really took the time because he wanted to make sure everything got fixed. I was highly satisfied. In fact, I cooked that night. It was a good experience.

I had the bottom half of my DE filter cracked, which was leaking water on my pool. I got ahold of J V Pools through American Home Shield and the tech came out within a week. He had to get the bottom half part. It looked like a rebuilt and not a new one. He installed it and it's working fine. I've had other claims. It's easy getting somebody out here. I didn't agree with the water heater decision AHS had. They said it was due to no maintenance, but I understand that. Also, they should have a selection of contractors you can choose from instead of just being assigned one. Other than that, they've been very prompt and fixed what I've asked them to.

Submitting the claim hasn’t been difficult. It’s just the follow-up work that needs to be done afterward is like pulling teeth. It’s like nobody wants to take responsibility for it. The guy that came out with the company that did my claim said he had to put a hole in the wall to get to the valve. It’s a decent-sized hole in the wall. We still have it in our bathroom ‘cause somebody was supposed to come out. The company that did it said that American Home Shield handled the drywall part of it and that they had to go through American Home Shield. We’ve been going back-and-forth since then. My husband’s in the process of training someone at work so we haven’t had time to deal with it this past week. Just have it together so we don’t have to keep hounding people to finish the job.

I had an issue with my dryer as it was not heating even though it was running. American Home Shield assigned my claim to D & J Appliances and a gentleman called. He was very prompt in coming and letting me know he was on his way. When he came, he knew what the issue was right away. He turned my dryer upside down and, evidently, it was the heating element that had totally burned out. He had the part in his truck so I was very pleased. He went out to his truck, came back and installed the part then told me, "You're in business, ma'am." He was very nice and professional. He promptly fixed my dryer. I thanked him and he was off.

I had another claim with American Home Shield. They had someone come out and look at the appliance. I've had problems with my heating system and they sent someone out. Sometimes the contractor has to order a part. One time, the gentleman said, "This is not your heating situation, it's an electrical system, ma'am. And so, we're gonna call American Home Shield back and tell them you need an electrician because it is not your furnace." They got in touch with American Home Shield and told them that it shouldn't be a separate charge but all within the same charge. That wasn't charged another service because it's just that when they came here and it was not what it was. An electrician came out and had to replace the fuse in my box, and my unit went to work. Between everybody, it was handled.

I would definitely recommend American Home Shield because when they told me somebody was gonna call me within 24 hours, they gave me the number of the folks that they had called so that we could communicate back and forth so that things could be done in a prompt manner. The gentleman, when I called him said, "Ma'am, I can't get to you today because it's Friday and I already have another schedule, but I will definitely get to you on Monday." And he was here on Monday. I couldn't argue with that.

I used to like that because what I would do is look at the list, then go to Yelp and Google and stuff like that, and see their reviews. But I’ve been lucky the last two times that I had to do it. The tech from The Lindsay Company who came out for the plumbing claim explained what he needed to do and then he put it together. He made sure everything was fine and it looked good. I automatically went with American Home Shield because I know them and also from other friends having it. I was gonna check around to see what other things were out there and what other options there were. But from what I've seen so far, I'm planning to renew my American Home Shield membership.

I had American Home Shield for two years and I canceled because I was not happy with their service. They kept giving me offers to come back, so I came back. I'm going on my third year now and I'm not really happy. The vendors that they have are not reliable. They'll come and supposedly fix your equipment and you have to call them back because it's not fixed correctly.

As a matter of fact, I just had somebody come out last week and fix my ice maker. It wasn't dispensing ice and now, it's dispensing it, but it's not dispensing cube and crushed. It's both crushed. The year before, AHS had people come out to fix my air condition unit and they told me it was fixed. I had to call them back three weeks later and they were telling me something else was wrong with it. Another thing is that trying to get through to American Home Shield to rectify the situation is like pulling teeth from a baby. It's ridiculous.

I'm the type of person who doesn't want different people in my house. If I'm having a problem with my appliances and I like the company that they have, let me always use that one. Even if, for instance, they just worked on my refrigerator, and next week, my washing machine goes out. If I file another claim, I get another vendor. There's no way for me to get the same vendor and if I'm having problems with a certain vendor, why would I want them back in my house? With me being a consumer, it would help if they could do something to where I have the option of picking the vendor because at least I can build a rapport with that vendor. They would know what I'm looking for because I'm very particular about my stuff.

Updated on 10/07/2020: If I could give AHS no stars I would. I have been trying to work with them for over five months to get my oven fixed or replaced. After a service person attempted unsuccessfully to fix my oven I am still awaiting a response on what the next step is to replace it under my contract. The service provider told me they would report to AHS and AHS would contact me. They haven't after weeks of no response. They do not answer their phones and do not return calls or respond to repeated emails. Horrible customer service yet they quickly answer their phones for sales and send out numerous emails to me pitching their services even though they are unable to service the business they already have. I would not recommend this service to anyone. I have contacted BBB and others to warn against using their services. Why am I not hearing from anyone?

Updated on 06/30/2020: So I finally get a response from AHS customer service by posting a negative review relative to my month-long effort to complete a repair under my policy only to be left hanging on next steps. They are able to check the box on my review as "Resolution in Progress" while actually doing nothing so far to solve my issue. Very disappointing! No resolution here.

Original Review: I am disgusted with AHS, the company's Customer Service and the fact that AHS continues to sell new contracts when they can't service what they have already sold. Rex Tibbens, CEO of Frontdoor should take note. I put in a claim in late May for oven repair. Initial response was prompt but I have been left hanging since with no working oven. After repeated and lengthy calls to customer service I have been unable to reach anyone who can address my situation and move my work order along. The company answers its sales line in a few minutes, happy to sell more contracts, but you can sit on hold for customer service forever and they never answer (my unanswered call today was 1 1/2 hours before I hung up).

Efforts to work with the service provider who started the job go nowhere since they need instructions from AHS before proceeding and they say they have no way of reaching AHS to get those instructions. A month with no working oven and no recourse at this point to get it fixed under my AHS contract. My only recourse at this point is to reach out to BBB, CA Consumer Affairs and my local TV station, which I did today.

NPS scheduled repair date for week later WITHOUT further diagnosis. On 6-15-20, NPS arrived. Heating element did not solve problem. NPS Tech ordered thermostat which would not arrive for ANOTHER week. On 6-22-20, NPS arrived and thermostat did not solve problem. NPS tech ordered igniter (?). Told me NPS scheduler would call on 6-23-20. On 6-24-20, I called NPS and had to leave message for update. On 6-24-20, I placed another call to NPS for update but had to leave message. On 6-26-20, was told that part arrived damaged and had to be replaced. New service call will take place on 7-3-20, WHICH PUTS ME WITHOUT A FUNCTIONING CLOTHES DRYER FOR A FULL MONTH!

The NPS Service Manager was upset that I was extremely vocal in my disappointment. I guess she has never been without a clothes dryer for over a month and no access to a laundromat; nor was he able to explain why it took a week between three different parts. Nor did she bother to explain why the first NPS tech was not able to completely evaluate the problem when he had my dryer disassembled and eliminate a complete waste of their time as well as mine. Further, I would forward this information to American Home Shield, but I do not care to wait on the phone for another 18 minutes or put up with the hurdles they have placed on their website in order to contact them.

I can't say anything positive about this company. I purchased additional spa coverage. My spa heater was leaking gas. Called the gas company they confirmed it and told me a part had to be replaced. Called American Home Shield. A tech came out who told me no parts had to be replaced it just had to be cleaned. I said that didn't make sense and asked how he could no that because he didn't actually do anything. He told me it was experience. We spoke about the company and he directly told me he thought it was a scam.

I then had it professionally cleaned and had the gas company come back out. They told me it was leaking gas and carbon monoxide and was a major safety hazard. I tried to call American Home Shield, the first time I spoke to someone for 5 minutes. They said they were going to transfer me I kept asking them not to, then they transferred me and dropped my call. Since then I have called 4 more times, I wait with hold music for ~15-30 minutes then all of a sudden the music stops but no one is there. The call doesn't drop just no one answers. I feel like they basically took the money for the warranty and do nothing. I plan on taking them to small claims court once I get everything fixed on my own.

It's Covid-19 we have a full refrigerator of food, our refrigerator goes out. Wednesday June 17 call AHS. They have a service order to first company that never called to schedule appointment so call back June 18 afternoon. After waiting on hold forever they got a new repair company that contacted me within minutes. Came out June 19th by noon. Found out it's the inverter board so the tech googles the part and there's 1 in the area he could pick up same day get it fixed right!

WRONG. AHS would not pay the $530. Said they can order it for cheaper. REALLY. So the tech said it should be here within 72 hours. Ok we can wait, well 72 hours goes by. Now it's 168 hours. I called June 24, waited on hold forever, didn't get through so called early morning. Waited on hold again forever. June 25 said they never received report from repair service, called repair service. They sent it that morning again, called AHS again. They said, "Oh they must of sent it in a different format" so they asked the repair service to send it again.

So this morning June 26 call AHS early morning. Waiting on hold forever again to see the status and she says it's waiting to get approved. I ask, "How long does it take". She says, "I don't know that answer", I ask to speak to someone in the approval department. She says, "No I can't do that. They're busy, really!" I now lost everything in my refrigerator and freezer that we couldn't eat. My cooler couldn't keep up. I asked who's gonna pay for that? AHS tells me, "Oh that would be under your homeowners insurance". REALLY if you would of let the guy get the part last Friday I wouldn't be here writing this!!!! So here I wait again waiting for their approval department to approve my part. This is total BS!!!

If you need to get in touch with AHS make sure you have at least 2 hours free time or a speakerphone cause you'll be on hold forever!!! And if you get lucky and get that message that says "if you'd like us to call you back" option it's your lucky day cause they'll sooner or later call you back. I just want my refrigerator fixed!!!! If I could give negative stars I would!!!! Only good thing to say is every person I did talk to was very nice but couldn't help.

We have to call AHS their customer service on 4/18/2020 because our washer and dryer need to fix. We call many times. We’re in the line for hours and they didn’t fix our washer and they order some parts for my dryer on May and said the parts will arrive on 6/8/2020. After waiting too long and calling we were exhausted and very disappointed we bought a new washer and dryer. We feel very upset after waiting too long we had to purchase a new items. We feel this company isn’t respectful towards their customers.

Our microwave died and the claim was handled fine. Hopefully, it would be reimbursed. I submitted the form and I haven't heard anything back from AHS. We have another claim for our heat pump and it's been fine so far, but we'll see what happens when it's done. I'm waiting for the heat pump guy to come back today. We're waiting to receive a part. They shipped out the part on the 12th and it should have been here a week ago. But it's not here.

I switched to AHS because I had this happen before with a different company. I'm worried this is what these things do and it's all a scam. I had to leave my last company because they wouldn't replace the part. I didn't like the first people called for my heat pump. They charged $200 for a pound of the refrigerant. I told AHS not to send those people. They sent somebody else and they only charged $100. But if I get it done in Richmond, it's 70 bucks a pound. The people that AHS uses charge too much for the refrigerant to offset the cost. Last time, instead of getting it done through AHS, I just paid for it out of pocket 'cause it's cheaper.

With AHS, you can file a claim online which is fine. But if you have to do a recall, there's no way for you to say, "This is the same problem, don't charge me" online. So, you have to wait on the phone for an hour before somebody picks up. It's a callback, not a new thing, so don't charge the $100 fee. You can't do that without talking to a person. The last time, I was on the phone for an hour and 15 minutes and the conversation lasted about 2 minutes.

I decided to drop AHS after paying for the service for three or four years and only using it twice. That 2nd time was a nightmare. They took four days to send a plumber out to fix my water heater. The plumber left something disconnected by accident that I didn't discover until after 7pm. AHS didn't want to pay the $200 to get the plumber they sent out to fix his mistake, so they basically told me I'd have to deal with it till morning. No offer to refund my service call fee for the error, nothing. When they called me the next day to follow up, I told the rep I was going to cancel my contract over the crappy way they had handled everything. The next month I just decided to let my AHC contract lapse, since it clearly states I can cancel at any time. Then they started calling me, multiple times a day, while I was at work.

I finally answered one day, in between meetings and when the rep asked "is this a good time?" I answered honestly, "no, it's not. I'm at work. You guys keep blowing up my phone, what do you want?" and she would not tell me, just kept insisting she would call me back at a "better time". There was no better time! I didn't want more calls, I never wanted to speak to them again. The whole thing felt super scam-y. Now I get a letter from a ** collection agency for $119.97 for....what the hell are they charging me for? My contract says I can cancel any time. I can't get an answer when I call AHS now. I spent 20 min on hold and hung up. When I clicked on the "chat now!" option on their site, it suddenly became unavailable. There is no email for account issues or customer service, only for security or privacy concerns. The whole company feels like a false front at this point.

American Home Shield keeps me from facing large expenses. It's the $100 that I am signed up for. It's less than I would have to have paid for any individual service call because service calls are very expensive especially air conditioning and plumbing. I've really been satisfied even though maybe over the long run, I might be paying them a little more money. It's a comfort because we are retired and on fixed income. We're not hit with a huge outlay of my refrigerator guys or my dishwasher guys. Most of these things are 800 to 1000 bucks. For the AC claim, Air Doctor did great. The guy was very professional. He was a very nice gentleman. He came in and took care of it and we're all good. The experience was perfect. The AC just needed a little bit of freon and there weren't even any charges for it. It wasn't enough they said to even charge us. The air conditioner is working fine.

The tech said he had to replace the spring that goes across the garage door. He told me how long that would take and then stayed around to test the replacement a couple of times to make sure the door opened and closed with no issues.

He did what we needed him to do. He was timely and quick with his job as well. In submitting the claim, I tried the phone first, but the system was a little too convoluted, and so I went online, signed up and submitted my request. AHS has a good reputation. It provided a solid package when that was being offered as part of our home purchase. I looked into a few other companies, but I thought that American Home Shield provided better value for the money that we were giving.

We had a lot of repairs that US Air Conditioning of Texas wanted me to do in addition to what was covered that I wasn't aware of. I should have read my contract. The bill would be cheaper if I use my professional local than what the actual contract was. Then he escalates the price based on what he feels like he needs to do and it’s way high. Then Home Shield only covers so much. They’re both protected on what they got written and what the tech would do if he got freedom to escalate the price. They get customers in dire need like I am. It’s been over a week now and still no air and still no comments from them on what they’re gonna pay me to cash out. I explained to them that it’s hot and the response has been very slow to my need at this time. If it’s the air condition in summer, I feel like they’d expedite getting the cash out payment to the person.

$2,500 just for the blower system in the attic and that’s ridiculous. I can get somebody local for about 1400. I assume the cash would be one-fifth of what the cost was escalated to. They’re gonna pay me 500 of the 1400 in using my guy. I would’ve had a bill over 1,850 of my money with their contract. It’s a game from the technicians to them.

I called one time and I asked the guy my cash out money. He took about 15 minutes and was very slow to get anybody. Then he said that they’re working on it and that somebody will get with me. This was actually a foreign call. He had a 918 area code, I thought this was them. It's been over three weeks since mine got it done, I’m in heat. Administration is poor. I've been paying $59 a month for a long time. AHS needs to get up to move forward, have some compassion toward their clients if they want them to keep paying them monthly. The cost had gone up and now it’s $100. The technician's just gonna come out and diagnose. Well, that’s the regular fee for local professionals, so he's getting the regular fee. It’s no discount for me at all using American Home Shield.

When the motor had gone out on my garbage disposal, the contractor came out the next day and took care of it. They came within the time they said they would and everything's working well. Brian was good and very professional. He was thorough. He came in, diagnosed the situation, and was in and out in probably less than an hour. He was respectful of the home, cleaned up this mess, and followed safety protocols regarding the pandemic. That experience couldn't have gone any smoother than it did. I've had a couple claims with American Home Shield and they've been efficient. It took too long to get the parts for the AC but the other calls that I've had with them have gone seamless. Also, American Home Shield's website is right to the point. It is user-friendly. There are a couple buttons and a couple dropdowns. It's easy to navigate through. It was saying the contractor would call within the next 24 hours to schedule it. I've scheduled it that evening, and they called probably 8 o'clock that morning.

I don't like the money as much as just the convenience of having to call somebody and just send the right person to fix the job without me being there and looking for somebody. And any time something breaks, they can do the research for me. We had one claim for the fridge and another for the dishwasher. They have been okay, but somehow, after the contractor left less than two months ago, the things broke down again. I’m just not happy with the service at all. With the techs, I didn’t feel anything different than they were good and polite people. I’m just not sure why it has taken two to three claims to get things done right the first time. The guy who fixed the fridge last time for us and then the dishwasher, it was very decent company. He said the people who came before should diagnose the problem better. They just came and did superficial work, and they didn’t dig deep into the problem and see what was going on with it.

Every time the contractors come and fix something, they leave, then things break down again and they have to redo it again. I call them again and stuff. When the washer stopped working and the dryer was not blowing hot air, it was the same exact thing that happened with the dryer and the contractors need to come back and fix it. It broke down again three days ago, and that was serviced a month ago. If it was within the two months period, Home Shield would do it for free. But if it wasn't, I would end up paying another deductible. I called Home Shield already and they said they would send somebody else to fix it.

First, he put a part in and then the second time, they sent the wrong thing. It was black instead of white. So then, that got changed, and then he came back. But it works now so we’re glad. The coverage that we have with AHS is very good. Our dealings have been very good with them. I also like that the $75 service fee is taken upfront with our credit card. The contractor came out and did the assessment but they had to wait for the stuff. When it came, they did it. The dishwasher was still leaking and the technician came back and did that but American Home Shield didn’t let him fix the microwave. They were saying that it’s still usable although part of it is damaged. The things that I've requested are the icemaker of the refrigerator, the stove and the washer. They did not honor the microwave but they did everything else, with the exception of the rubber on the refrigerator which I didn’t remember to show him. It’s not the service people’s problem. I was more concerned about having people in the house during COVID more than remembering everything. Also, I did not have any space on the request to say that that was something else but I could have put it in the notes. I still have the rubber but I don’t want to have to pay another $100 just to get that repaired.

AHS should make sure, especially with the pandemic, that the service people who are coming out have shoe covers and masks. I requested that and they had their masks and they took off their shoes but I would have preferred them wearing shoe covers than to take off their shoes. That would be more hygienic than walking on my carpet in their socks. Still, I was satisfied with AHS.

Sometimes, I might have a repair that's not exactly listed on the website and I tried picking something close. It would be nice if there was a fill in the blanks kind of thing for a plumbing, an electrical or another problem. Recently though, I requested for service and it was easy. The lady I spoke with was nice, walked me through everything and told me how it all worked. Then, she went ahead and scheduled the appointment. That was originally with Sears and then I called back after not being happy with Sears and talked to somebody else. They changed something and got me in touch with E & T who called me to let me know when they would come out.

We scheduled the appointment and then, the guy showed up about 30 minutes prior to the appointment. He knew exactly what to do and was in and out in 30 minutes. He went in there with some kind of machine and defrosted something in between the refrigerator and the freezer. So, there was something in there that got plugged up. Since then, the refrigerator has been working awesome. Having it fixed saved the food because we had to have ice in there since the temperature wasn’t right. So, for our family of four at the house, we gotta have cold food. I love American Home Shield. Knowing that there’s a warranty there for when something big breaks, it’s worth every penny.

Sometimes, it’s very difficult with American Home Shield's claims processing. I haven’t used it an awful lot, but it was a real hassle. If you put in a request for service, they charge your card right away. If that vendor doesn’t show up, then you have a hassle of having it removed. Fortunately, I have it on American Express who is very cardmember-friendly. American Home Shield shouldn’t charge the card until after there’s confirmation that the vendor has shown up. Their billing department is not great and could use a few coats of paint 'cause it was after 10 calls that I got someone who could really take care of the problem. Some of the calls are transferred overseas, but this particular call was US-based.

The other thing that I don’t like about them is their advertising is a little deceptive. It makes it sound like you struck gold. They have lots of exclusions then they will forward you to the policy. They pay the minimum to these vendors, so sometimes, their vendors will try to do extra work. With things that they could repair, it’s okay but I don’t think it’s a great value for replacement. I had a hot water heater in one of my buildings that I sold, and it still ended up costing me $1,600 plus the $100 for the fee. All they paid for was the actual hot water heater, but they didn’t pay for any of the code requirements, which is where the money is.

There was another case where another hot water heater was under warranty. The tenant had to wait 3 weeks without hot water, which kinda can get me in jeopardy as a landlord. Because it was under warranty, AHS wouldn’t pay for the part. They would pay for the person to install it. If the water heater was not under warranty, then they might have paid for the part, or they might have done a cash out.

I haven’t had a great experience with them. I definitely don’t feel like with 4 years premium, I got the value that I should have received. At some point, they’re gonna lose customers because when you figure it out, you’re not getting as much value as you really should for what you pay. They’re using your money with not paying you interest. The whole billing setup could be better improved. If you have to change a hot water heater, you have to have an expansion tank and you have to have this and that. Their vendors purposely try to make up what American Home Shield doesn’t pay them to charge us more. If we’re gonna have to pay extra, they should work out an arrangement where their customers get the same contract rate that they do. I still have one contract with them that I will keep enforced until I sell that building. At least if they cover something, it’s better than nothing but they could do better by us.

I've been a customer of Home Shield for a long time. I sold my rent houses so I dropped it. I got sick with cirrhosis of the liver so we left Missouri. And when I came back, I took out the insurance again because the house sits here seven months a year empty and I felt we needed the insurance again. I had them before and they're good. They're honest and do what they say they would do. If they can't fix it, they buy new. I like them.

The Mid Mo Drain tech was polite and cleaned up after himself. I love it when he cleans up the mess. I've had them to come out here and I have pretty cabinet tops and oak furniture and they just laid big pliers, hammers, and screwdrivers on top of stuff and scratch it. And this guy asked me if I had a towel and I said, "Sure, I have a towel. You want a good towel, old towel, what are you gonna do with it?" And he said, "I'm just gonna lay it on the cabinet to put tools on it so I don't scratch up your cabinet top.” So they were real good people. If I had to have them out again, I wouldn't care if you send them back out because they were good.

I asked him what would he charge me to hook my water softener up. He called his boss and they said $100. So I said, "Okay" and gave him $100. He was hooking it up when he said, "Well, you know what, I don't know how to do this, turning it on and off and to set the settings and all of that." I said, "Well, that's okay. I have a neighbor that bought one just like this, and he put it in his house. So I'll have him come over and help us." When the guy left, I had the neighbor to come over so we could get it finished. And he said, "Man, he's got it hooked up where your saltwater is going outside." So, he had to reroute all of the plumbing.

I called the man that owned the company.and told him what happened. He asked me what I wanted him to do about it. I said, "Well, nothing, unless you think that $50 of it could be paid to the guy that's fixing it, you know." He said, "Well, let me check on something." He told me he would call me back and he did. He said, "I checked with my plumber that did it. Well, it's possible. He could have got them wrong. So who do you want me to make the check out to, for $50?" I told him to make it out to Ray. I gave him the address and Ray came over today and told me that he received the check for $50. I said, "You want some more?" But he said, "Oh, no. I would have done it for you for nothing. But I just thought, well, since you paid the guy and he didn't do it right, I should get it." The owner made it right and they were nice about it all.

I already tell people they need to get Home Shield. My granddaughter owns three houses and rents out two of them. I told her that she needs to get Home Shield because if something happens, it would cost her a lot of money. And it's not expensive every month. She wouldn't even miss it. Have Home Shield take it out automatically. And when she needs it, she has it.

Cabot Mechanical came out and serviced the unit. My air conditioner kept kicking on and off, and it turned out to be a clogged AC drain line. I did the claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I was irritated at first. I never got the chance to speak to anybody on Friday when I submitted the claim. On Friday night, I got the email confirmation saying that my claim has been submitted and that I would receive a phone call from a technician shortly. It went on to where Saturday got there. There was no call. I tried to call back but wasn't able to speak to anybody. I called on Sunday and was unable to speak to anybody. I called on Monday and finally got somebody on the phone. They said, "Oh, goodness, sorry. We looked over your claim because somebody else submitted a claim in the same area close to your residence. And we thought that was the same address."

Then they said they would send somebody out here the next morning. It wasn't until Tuesday that I had a technician show up at my house. So I went four days without AC with two three-year-olds and a pregnant wife. When the contractor did finally arrive, he took care of business and seemed pretty professional. He resolved the problem within an hour. The unit seems to be functioning pretty well.

The AC claim was great. The guy replaced the part that went bad. He fixed the AC unit and it's working fine. The electrician was horrible. He came out the first time, and it was for a separate matter. It was for my driveway lights outside. They charged me the $75 deductible just to tell me that it's outdoor lighting and it's not covered. They should've told me that without charging my $75 upfront. I've had American Home Shield for probably 10 years and this is the first time that they charged me a deductible for something that they know that wasn't covered. I felt like I got scammed.

They diagnosed that there was nothing wrong with our system other than the coil needed to be cleaned. They also determined that we weren’t low on the fluid.

I called American Home Shield and talked to them, and they charged me a fee. They told me who they would be sending. Ave’s Lock and Key came to change the locks and a door knob -- every time you went out of the door, you locked yourself out. I was very pleased with their work. I had a claim with a sewer, with whom I had some problem. When I called American Shield, they told me that this plumbing company would be calling me, but they did not call. So, I called. It was during the pandemic and everything was kind of screwed up. I finally was able to get in touch with the plumbing company, and so they called American Home Shield and they said that the order had been cancelled. So, I had to call them back and say that I did not cancel the order. They said, "We didn't hear from you so we thought you did.” So, I wasn’t pleased with that situation.

However, the other one went fine. The only thing that I would hold back on would be that he did not have on a mask. I asked him if he had a mask, and he said that he did and it was back in the truck. So, he went and got the mask. He was very polite and kind about it. He also made some extra keys for me and he cleaned all the keys off before he left them for me so that they would be sanitized, so I appreciated that. Overall, my experience with went smoother than most things that have been going this year.

About two days later, it stopped working. When we called the guy out again, he said that there was something that had rattled loose. It didn't take him long to fix it and he said that he had fixed it. We cut it back on and it worked that night. By the next night, which would have been two days ago, it just stopped working again. I didn't notice it for real until the next morning, which was yesterday morning. I just called American Home Shield up today. Somebody's gotta come back out to fix it again.

I've got an email from American Home Shield, but I haven't heard from Piedmont yet. The email said I gotta wait 24 hours before they contact me. They were real good with contacting me in the past, but this time, they're gonna send out a senior person because three times is the charm. My biggest problem with AHS, which I'm not holding against them, is it takes at least 40 minutes to get through each time I call them. I'm sure it has to do with the coronavirus though.

My A/C went out, I'm in Arkansas. The evaporator coil & a valve need to be replaced. I'm a remote worker in healthcare and having financial hardships as it is. AHS appears to have bad faith in regards to their contracts. Took 1.5hrs to get a rep who could understand that I was trying to understand what was being denied, why it was being denied, and the total amount not being covered. They denied based upon section D(4)(b) "Costs of construction, carpentry, or other modifications necessary to remove, relocate, or install a Covered item or part thereof".

However, all of the parts denied are clearly covered under section F (2. Air Conditioning) "COVERED ITEMS: "All components and parts of the following air conditioning systems:".."When repairing or replacing a covered item, if such repair or replacement requires component or part upgrades to maintain compatibility and/or compliance with SEER HSPF, or refrigerant standards, AHS will cover such upgrades and will cover necessary upgrades to duct connections, plenums, and indoor electrical lines up to and including the disconnect". All of the components listed in the claim from the contractor are clearly covered by this clause.

Further AHS has very poor customer service. When I asked the rep to tell me the provision in the contract for the basis of the denial she had difficulty finding what I was asking for. Finally after several more minutes on hold and restating my request for an explanation. Eventually I was told it was section D(14)(b). However this clause is referring to refrigerant (i.e. R22). When I explained this is limited to refrigerant and doesn't explain the denial for the other items I was transferred to a manager who also couldn't tell exactly what was or wasn't being covered or why. Eventually the manager transferred me to someone who could. Just before he transferred me I asked him for the name and number of the dept to which I was being transferred in case I got disconnected and he didn't seem to understand the request.

Finally the last person I was transferred to gave me the itemization and told me that section D(1)(L) was also a reason for the denial. When I disputed this for very valid reasons he put me on hold, came back on the line, and indicated that AHS would provide the contractor the necessary parts but would not cover the labor cost. No where in the contract are labor costs excluded. These feels like the company is making things up every time they realize they need to cover a cost.

In Arkansas there is essentially nothing consumers can do except go to arbitration at cost with potential liability for AHS' legal fees depending upon the outcome of arbitration, there is no additional legal recourse. The best action we can do as consumers is to defund this company by not providing them our business. I would never recommend this company to anyone. We have never been satisfied with the outcome of any claim. If you are considering a home purchase and an AHS home warranty is provided for your peace of mind you would be better off saving $5-10,000 in addition to the cost of the home. I will be filling complaints with the BBB, the attorney general's office, will post this to social media, and will continue this effort to reach satisfaction until I have functional air conditioning.

I purchased a home on 6/14/2019 and it came with an AHS 1 year home warranty. On 6/12/2020, someone was mowing my lawn and notified me that one of my AC units was completely frozen. I immediately contacted an HVAC company (very reputable) who I have used for the past 9 years. That same day, 6/12/2020, the owner of the HVAC company came out to diagnose the issue. He found the AC unit had been somewhat jerry rigged to prevent a leak outside. He then went upstairs to inspect the furnace and found multiple leaks/issues. His recommendation was to replace the whole unit due to the issues and because it was original to the house which was built in 1998.

On 6/13/2020, he mailed me a quote but I was on vacation and didn't receive it until I returned home. The quote is dated 6/13/2020. Total cost to replace AC and furnace was reasonably priced at $6,800. On 6/25/2020, I found my AHS policy and realized that my coverage didn't expire until 6/14/2020. I called and spoke with a representative who informed me my policy had lapsed and coverage would not be provided. I offered the counter point that the failure of the system occurred prior to my policy expiration date. The response was that I would have had to call and request service prior to the expiration date. I requested to speak with a supervisor and was transferred to the escalation department. At this point, I had been on the call for 1 hour 10 minutes.

A representative who identified herself as a supervisor in the escalation department came on the line eventually. I again explained that the failure of the system occurred and was documented prior to the policy expiration date. Again, I was told that because I did not call prior to the expiration date and request service that my request was being denied. I explained I was on vacation when all of this occurred and my first thought was not to look for a home warranty policy that I did not travel with but rather my concern was with contacting a qualified and trusted HVAC company. She then explained since service had already been provided they could not reimburse me. I again reiterated that no service has yet to be performed, only a quote for service given. After a lengthy wait, she affirmed that the company would not be offering any type of coverage.

I continued to reiterate my points:
    1) Failure occurred prior to policy expiration date
    2) Qualified professional provided quote prior to expiration date
    3) I was contacting AHS prior to having any service performed
    4) It's not reasonable to expect someone to travel with their AHS policy

    5) Even if I did have my policy, I would not have allowed a non-trusted service provider to enter my home while I was not on the premises.

I asked that my claim be escalated again to someone higher up the ladder. I was told that it didn't matter who I contacted that the answer would be the same regardless. I was told that I could write a formal complaint and maybe the policy would be reviewed so a change could be made so this would not happen to anyone in the future. I was also told I could renew my policy and then call for service. I expressed concerns that would feel dishonest and my claim would likely be denied since I had already reported the problem.

After 1 hour and 59 minutes the call ended with a promise that someone higher up would call me and again reiterate that there are no options available to me. The amount of time it took to get to the answer and the answer itself is unacceptable. The majority of the 1 hour and 59 minutes was spent on hold and not dealing with AHS representatives directly.

I find it very disappointing that this company seems to focus on loopholes to avoid providing coverage rather than assisting customers. It seems very unreasonable that despite the issue being clearly documented prior to the lapse of the policy, AHS still is declining coverage. This is definitely a negative experience. I've already shared the experience with my real estate agent and plan to continue sharing so others can avoid similar issues in the future. I also plan to file a formal complaint as suggested.

Updated on 6/28/2020: AHS, I appreciate you responding. Unfortunately, you could care less about the fact that your customer support is sub-par. If you read my feedback, it was about AHS' lack of transparency and customer support. However, you didn't even address that. You went straight to letting me know how you don't cover Zone Systems which is a central AC (ducted central electric split and package units as contract stipulates) which allow you to operate first floor and second floors with one AC Unit as opposed to purchasing 2 outside units. You will need to show me on my contract, because I have the Shield Plus membership which is pretty clear on what it covers and what it doesn't. You don't leave room for interpretation. I have the excerpt a little further below.

The fact that on the day that I was suppose to get service you tell me how much you "I hate to advise you that your contract does not include coverage for Zone Systems", tells a lot about AHS's disgusting business practices. Not one person at AHS explained that to me the day before or the day before that one when we were discussing on the chat, so I could take the necessary measures?

I spoke with Blue Sky AC that morning (before I saw your poor attempt at customer service or concern), and they told me the person was coming between 10 AM and 2 PM. NO ONE called me to cancel. I had been without AC for now going on 3 days because AHS had sent nothing but inept, poorly vetted HVAC companies.

AHS sent A-US Air Conditioning of Texas that had no idea what they were doing, and diagnosed the issue as being the Honeywell box that talks to the thermostat to know if its the upstairs and downstairs that is requesting the air condition to be turned on. THEY WERE WRONG!! I told their rep that this was a thermostat issue because the AC was working downstairs, but he decided to just say it was the zone system (Honeywell controller that sits on top of the Carrier unit) that was not working. Still, it should be covered because my contract doesn't state its not covered since its part of the AC Central (ducted central electric split and package units).

I ended up calling Stan's Heating and Cooling. The guy showed up the same day, and went to my thermostat and re-configured it in 3 MINUTES! Since I had a power outage (which i explained when i first requested the service) the thermostat rebooted and thought we had to AC units, so it wasn't communicating the correct information to the zone system on the Carrier AC unit. Let me repeat, IT TOOK 3 MINUTES!!! I paid $89.00 for the service while I have paid you guys $1,600 over the past 27 months to just tell me you don't cover this because of ignorance from your contractors and you arbitrarily stating my contract doesn't cover something that is covered unless you can show otherwise (by pointing it out in my contract). Shame on you and your entire organization for your poor customer support and lack of honesty.

Excerpt from my Shield Plus membership:
    2. AIR CONDITIONING
COVERED ITEMS: All components and parts of the following air conditioning systems: Ducted central electric split and package units – Geothermal – Evaporative coolers – Wall air conditioners – Mini-splits. When repairing or replacing a Covered Item, if such repair or replacement requires
component or part upgrades to maintain compatibility and/or compliance with SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio), HSPF (Heating Seasonal
Performance Factor), or refrigerant standards, AHS will cover such upgrades and will also cover necessary associated upgrades to duct connections,

plenums and indoor electrical lines up to and including the disconnect.

NOT COVERED: Outside or underground piping, well pump, and well, components for geothermal and/or water source heat pump – Window units – Water towers – Humidifiers – Dehumidifiers – Chillers, chiller components, and water lines – Portable units.

Original review: My AC went down on 6/23/2020, and I made my request at AHS at 1 PM. I got my text stating that they had a contractor that would contact me or I could contact them myself. I went ahead and contacted the contractor who let me know it had been assigned for the next day. The following day (6/24) came around, and I had to call in because no one ever called me to tell me what time they would arrive. Much to my disappointment, they told me they were coming until the next day (6/25) because the AC guy's truck broke down (they had no one else).

I cancelled and went back to AHS and made new request online. I called them first (twice)), and waited on hold for 30 plus min each time. No one ever answered. I sat on chat waiting for someone to come on for another 20 min, and they finally did. They were able to set me up with another AC company for the same day. However, they showed up and didn't know how to work on zone system AC and left within minutes. I was floored that they would send a contractor that couldn't handle different types of AC units because zone systems are pretty common.

Needless to say, I had to wait until that AC company sent their diagnostic to AHS, so AHS will approve another company to come out to help me. This was 6/24 in the evening that I'm dealing with this. I had to call the contractor to request the expedite the diagnosis, so AHS would get another contractor out to me. They did that by 6 PM, and confirmed that they sent it already. I called AHS, and again spent more than 30 minutes on hold because no one answers a darn phone. I had to get on chat again, and wait for 20 plus min for someone to jump on with me. They finally did and said they were working on it.

Today is 6/25/2020 and its 12:30 PM, and I've yet to hear or read an email response on next steps from AHS. I've called and sat on hold for 55 minutes and I tried the chat, but their Chat line is not available. I called the contractor to see if they had truly sent the diagnosis, and they told me they would call AHS to let them know I've been trying to get a hold of them. I'm still waiting on a call from them to discuss how we can get a contractor out here that will not stand me up or that knows what the heck they are doing.

I'm extremely disappointed at the fact that no one will answer a call at support; they have poor vetting of contractors in the AC world (at least in Texas is what it looks like); and they can't get the chat system they boast about to work continuously. I hope this helps to get them to work on things as they have truly fallen apart for them.

Do not buy this insurance! I’ve had a work order open for 1.5 months and 'til date still a broken dishwasher w/ no ETA for the replacement parts. After 1 hour hold times and several dropped calls w/ no call back, I decided to cancel my service. When canceling the rep told me I had to pay a fee to cancel. Are you kidding me? I would not recommend this company to anyone. Save yourself the headache.

After over 4 weeks and 4 trips by their service contractor they finally said air conditioner couldn’t be fixed so we need new compressor. We have spent $100 for deductible for 1st service call plus $190 for Freon that they put in on second trip (it lasted 2 days). 3rd trip they put in 5 more lbs of Freon but we refused to pay for more. Within 2 days all that Freon was gone and it was over 90 degrees in our house again. Finally on 4th trip service man said it wasn’t fixable and needed new unit but now we have to wait on authorization. This I don’t understand, it’s their own contractors and service man they picked. Why do we have to wait in hot house for authorization.

I created a claim online for a failed refrigerator. The freezer and the icemaker suddenly stopped working. The online scheduling was easy and convenient. I was able to schedule an appointment for 8am-12pm the next day. Unfortunately my subsequent experiences were not as easy. The following day I received no notices about an appointment or technician's arrival. So, I tried calling to establish the status. If you are calling AHS be prepared to be on hold for a minimum of 30 minutes. Really not acceptable when you are in need of assistance. The first call to a call center likely in the Philippines had the worst call quality I have experienced with a call center. After holding, it was like I was talking with someone on their cell phone in a dead zone. However, I was able to establish that a tech was still scheduled and I would be emailed a link to track the tech.

A couple of hours later without any contact, email, etc. I tried calling again. Same hold time, same horrible call quality. It was now 11:45. While talking to the representative who assured me that I was on schedule but the window was now until 1, I got a call/voice message saying that the technician would not be coming today and I would need to call back to reschedule.

I called back and rescheduled for 2 days later. The technician promptly showed up this time and after a quick evaluation determined that there were multiple failed parts on the refrigerator and he would need to call for authorization for the parts/service. He called AHS and while the call was answered within a minute, it took over 30 minutes on hold to determine if AHS would replace or repair the unit. Repair costs were around $900 and the technician recommended replacement as this refrigerator would likely fail again in the very near future and it would be 3 weeks before they could schedule a repair. AHS decided to repair despite the potential additional repair costs and customer inconvenience. Penny-wise but pound foolish.

So, I just want a working refrigerator. That is why I bought the home warranty. Waiting 3 weeks to get something repaired is unacceptable. So, I called AHS subjecting myself to another 30 minutes of hold time. The call quality was much better this time. I spoke with the service representative regarding the technician's recommendations and excessive time I would have to wait and asked what they could do. She understood the issue but said that there was nothing she could do. So I requested to have my call escalated. I was now 45 minutes into the call. After another 15 minutes of holding, the representative asked for my call back number so that her supervisor could call me when she was off the phone. She said that I would receive a call back by the end of the day. 7 hours later and no phone call. Not a trustworthy company. Tomorrow I start my phone calls again!

AC wen out in late June. Have my new grandson and his sisters living in the house. So I called to get a service call set up. The contractor was assigned and showed up the next day. The tech reported that the AC unit was low on Freon and that there was a leak in the evaporator coil. Told me there was charge for replacement freon at $50/lb for 18 lbs and that they would need to get authorization from AHS to order the evaporator coil. No one from AHS contacted me regarding the authorization and I've tried to call at least 3 times to check on status of the part. Each time I waited on hold for over an hour with no response from anyone. So, I called sales to speak with a real person, and got transferred to the Service Department where I was put on hold for an hour with no response.

In the mean time, I had a second company come out at my expense to see if I could expedite the corrective action. They found that the system was functioning normally and just needed to have the evaporator coils cleaned. Took the second company about an hour and I spent about $200. AHS is not responsive, is not communicative, and apparently uses contractors that are dishonest. I expected way more for the $$$ I spend every month to have a warranty and I will be reporting this to the Texas Workforce Commission and to anyone else I can.

My flooring has started bubbling up in the kitchen and I thought I had a water leak, but I wasn’t really sure. I got on the website and submitted the request with AHS. They emailed me with the time and then the contractor called to make sure. It was a pretty quick deal. The contractors came out and it was not a water leak. It was an HVAC problem that was causing the floor to bubble up. They did the best they could. They didn’t have much to work with ‘cause it wasn’t a water leak. But they turned everything on and looked around and strolled into the house. They did a pretty thorough inspection.

The garbage disposal was leaking, and so I went online and submitted the claim. The website was very user-friendly. They usually send me an email of the estimated time when the contractor can come out, and then they'll call and schedule it. The contractors who came have been professional, and everything has been functioning perfectly since they came out. The repair stopped the leak and the mess, so everything is good. American Home Shield is a great company. It is very reliable. They come out and fix, and they do what they say and say what they do.I highly recommend them.

Submitting claims to AHS has been simple. There was a time when their techs couldn't figure my problem out so AHS sent me three different companies. The third one ended up doing the job. Other than that, submitting a claim has not been a big deal. Most recently, we tried to turn our AC on for the season. It was blowing air but it wasn't cooling. I submitted a request to American Home Shield and their contractor River City Mechanical put me on their schedule really fast. They showed up and the tech only took 30 minutes to figure out and fix my problem right on site. I'm 100% satisfied with AHS.
