The pipe being on top of the water heater was broken and it would leak. I didn't notice it until I started seeing water buildup on the floor. I decided to call AHS and they sent Grade A Plumbing. The tech inspected it. He showed me where the pipe was broken and where the water was leaking through. Everything was satisfactory.

There was no hot water and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. The plumber came out and he said that it was not a plumbing issue. I spent 100 for that and then, I did another claim for electrical. It was not even five minutes when the rep figured everything out. He came in, looked, walked outside and popped a fuse and popped another one in, and then he was gone. I still have hot water since they came out.

Storm Electric came out twice. One was for one of the electrical sockets. My husband had rewired it wrong. The contractor did a great job and it took them no time at all to do the repair. They were on time, friendly, called the night before and came when they said they were coming. I like American Home Shield's promptness, usually.

I went online to file a claim but when the website asks what the problem is, it only has a selective thing. I still would have preferred a box where I could have told American Home Shield exactly what was going on. That aside, everything went well. The technician from Summerbreeze was quick and efficient and everything is fine now.

He installed a GFI but my weed-whacker keeps tripping it. After a while, I'll have to wait a while and reset again.

American Home Shield is the service we sell with every house that I sell and it's the preferred provider for Berkshire Hathaway. I got a policy and I've had two calls since. The heating element on the microwave didn't work. It needed to be replaced and they replaced the microwave. I then called for the air conditioning. My AC was almost 100 degrees, and it stopped working. It was blowing hot air. Epic Heating and Air came out the next morning, did some tests and said I was low on Freon. They put a pound and a half of Freon in and it has worked since then. However, the Freon was $120 a pound and I had no idea it was that expensive until the guy told me. He said that they cover $10 of the $120 and I was really surprised with that. The guy also said that if it lose it again, I might have to replace the conditioner.

When I turned on my air conditioner, it was not functioning. I did a claim through the online service that they have available and it was fast and easy. The website was really good. I was using a telephone to do claims and it worked just fine on the telephone, so I was very pleased. I was given noon to 5 o'clock. Initially, on the Friday, I got a call and they told me they had a cancellation. They asked me if I could do an earlier date and they gave me the same window. Northwest Sundance Services came out on Tuesday and they were fast, efficient and professional. The service was fantastic. I actually took their card and I would seek their help again if I run into problems with my air conditioner.
We love to hear when we have provided fast and professional service to our customers. Please continue to share your experiences with us and we will continue to strive to meet your needs.

I submitted a claim online and AHS gave me the company, the US Air, but they were around the Dallas area, which was two hours away. But the guy that works for them as a technician lives here, so it was okay. He was very polite, courteous and very timely. I told him when he called, what I had been doing to the air conditioner to keep it going a little bit just to cool the house under 100 degrees because it was 105 degrees when it went out. He knew exactly what was wrong with it when he got there because of what I told him was going on. He changed those two parts and left and that was good. Right now, it seems like everything's fine. I haven't had any problems when they left.
The only complaint I have about American Home Shield is the automated system’s a pain and the wait time is ridiculous. It took me over an hour to get answered on the phone. Then, once I got a hold of the girl that waited on me, she put me on hold. She was very irritating herself. She couldn’t even speak good English and some of the things I had to ask her to repeat, she got aggravated ‘cause I asked her to repeat. So my whole experience with trying to get this taken care of with American Home Shield was an hour and 45 minutes. So, they saved me the cost of a new air conditioner I don’t need, but I get really pissy when I’m on hold that long.
The only other complaint I ever had with American Home Shield was when I replaced my refrigerator. My refrigerator broke and that took them three weeks to get a compressor and didn't fix it. Then they had to come back out and do something else and that didn't fix it. The technician finally recommended to replace it. I said, “I've been without a refrigerator now for two months.” I was putting everything in coolers and freezing everything I could possibly freeze that would thaw back out, so, I was irritated with that.
Then when they finally said, “Okay, were’ gonna replace it,” ‘cause I didn’t go with one that they recommended, that they would send to me, ‘cause I want to see something. I want to touch it, feel it and see it. When I replaced it, it took them three months to send me my money. It was a total of five months to get my money back from American Home Shield on our refrigerator. Then they said, “We can't find this. Did you send us the receipt?” I said yes. I still had the email where they received it, but I resent it to them on the same email. But they kept telling me they didn't get it. I said, “I sent it to the department that sent me the request for the receipt.” But those were the only problems I’ve ever had with AHS in eight years.
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

The hot water heater would get hot water but it would not even last for five minutes, and then you'd have to wait for an hour or two for it to get hot again. I called Home Shield and they took the information. The contractor was good. The only complaint I had was that nobody followed up with me. I had to call them because they never showed up and never called. The first guy came out the next day after I filed the claim. He said they were gonna have to replace the hot water heater and that they would call and schedule time and somebody will take care of all that. But I never heard from anybody. I called them back and they said that Home Shield was supposed to call me. They said they were waiting on an approval from Home Shield.
The only other complaint I had with the process was I called in when they told me what they were gonna do and that there was gonna be an extra $265 for additional work that needed to be done. I asked what the additional work was and they said they have to change the T&P valve or replace some lines. I'm not a plumber, but I've done a lot of home remodeling, and it wasn't even $50 worth that needed to be done. So I called in and I asked about getting a cash-out option.
I called on Friday and I talked to a gentleman and he said, “Well, I can't give you what to cash out option is. We have to submit that to another team and they have to call you with a quote.” I said I was okay with that and asked when was I going to get this call since the contractor was supposed to come Monday and put it in. He said, “Oh, well, I don't know. It should be sometime today. If not, it’d be first thing Monday.” But they never called so I called back in and I asked where was the quote. The guy was gonna be here within a couple hours and I wanted to know whether I had to do the work or do a cash-out option. The guy told me that whoever I talked to the last time never put in a request for the quote so I was gonna have to pay for it or I was gonna have to hold off and it could take several days for them to get it done.
The tech was a very nice gentleman. He was very friendly and professional. He did a great job. He did it quickly. But the hose that they said had to be connected was part of the hot water heater, so it was literally you disconnect one, set the other one in place, tighten the thing and you tighten it down. In other words, it wasn't like they had to bring in extra piping. They brought in what was part of a hot water heater already and they swapped it out. With the T&P thing, he took out one section that was about five feet long and connected it to the existing thing that I already had there. So I don't think it was $265 worth of work, but I paid for it. But I felt like I was being strong-armed to do it. I would give a good recommendation on the tech side. But on the Home Shield side, it was a horrible experience.
Are you still in need of assistance?

Our AC wasn't working so I called American Home Shield. I tried to call at least 25 times to get through but I never could. I had to wait three or four days just to talk to somebody from AHS. Every time I called and talked to somebody, the person who answered was overseas and they had no idea what I was talking about. They kept putting me off. After I got through, AHS sent Ciamillo Heating and Cooling and their techs provided excellent service. Things have been outstanding since they came out.

American Home Shield is a great program and they're doing a wonderful job. They have a very easy and very good process for claims. They're also very efficient in getting somebody out there and on a timely manner. Everything is going good. I made a claim for my AC unit and the guy who came was very nice and knowledgeable. He had his mask on due to the COVID too. However, the house is still not as cool, but I don't know whether it's the thermostat that's making it go up and down and change the temperature. Still, they did a good job in doing the other stuff.

But part of it was the way that the machine operates normally is not the way one would expect from looking at the controls so we had an issue there. Other than that, it was fine. The guys who came out knew what they were doing. They were nice people to deal with. Overall, AHS is doing what they said they would.

I had a clogged toilet that stayed clogged for weeks. The technician that AHS sent came out and it took him a little bit of elbow grease and a very strong industrial size, strength snake and a plunger for a while. He said there was something really stuck in there. I don't know what it was, but it was fine. He took care of it. However, we had to reschedule a couple of times, and thank goodness I had a second bathroom. So, it was okay. But it was an emergency type service, so sometimes stuff happens. Otherwise, the guy was great. The communication with the scheduling lady was great as well.

We had a unit die last week and Maxair Heating & Cooling just installed a new unit. They came on Monday and determined that it was gonna have to be replaced. It was not fixable because I did not wanna pay for R22 due to the price. It was pointless to throw money away on the part. They came back on Tuesday and quoted for the replacement, what American Home Shield will pay and the upgraded system that I wanted. They came on Thursday and installed it.
How our American Home Shield works is you submit an online trouble ticket and pay the deductible. That's all you have to do. Everything else was handled through Maxair and American Home Shield. I didn't have to submit anything to American Home Shield. Maxair took care of that. They're great. Unfortunately, we've had two units die this year here. Last year when we first bought our house, we had a little bit of trouble. American Home Shield sent a different heating company who did fine. But Maxair has been sent to us probably 5 times now over the last 12 months because we had trouble with heat pumps. We had heating issues with our other big unit, and they were able to repair it first. Then it reached the point that the thing that died was too much. The part was more than the replacement. I probably encountered 7 employees at Maxair and they are all wonderful. We're from Florida so we're used to heating and cooling people and Maxair is probably one of the best companies that I encountered.
We had American Home Shield for 14 years in Florida and we also chose them here. We demanded American Home Shield even though they tried to sell us somebody else. We're a dedicated customer. We only had one issue with them and that was when we first moved here and sold our other home. It was getting them to cancel our previous policy because those homeowners didn't want it. I had a little bit of trouble with them. But when I finally got the right person, they handled it immediately and apologized for the issue. It wasn't a bad experience at all.
I've had a great experience with American Home Shield. They honor what they sell. I probably have the least complaints when my friends and I talk about home warranties. In the now 16 years that we've had them at more than one residence, I cannot file a complaint. I do not have anything even when they had that big of a lawsuit. I didn't understand what the people's problem was even. People need to read the paperwork they are given. If you don't read the paperwork and don't know what's covered, then it's your own fault.
Thanks for being a loyal customer and for sharing your experience with us. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

Complete Air got the air conditioner working for not even a day, then it stopped working. It's a good thing that my husband went out there because they could have started a fire in my house. The unit was hot to the touch so he had to shut the unit off. We had to call American Home Shield back to tell them they had to send somebody else or they had to send them back. They said that they couldn't have somebody here until the following week, and I said I couldn't wait till next week. I have 3 small children in the house, and my daughter has asthma. It was a 98-degree weather and they said that there was nothing that they could do. I called American Home Shield back and told them Complete Air couldn't be here till the following week and I couldn't have that. They said that they would get another company, and they found another company to come out. The company was there the following day.
When I spoke to Complete Air, they told me that they have told American Home Shield numerous times that they're a small company. They don't have the manpower to absorb all of the calls that American Home Shield gives them. American Home Shield needs to vet their contractors a lot better with the work that they do, with them being able to absorb the workload that they're giving them.

My air conditioning window unit was not working right and I didn't get any satisfaction until almost two weeks after I called it in. The one thing that I really hate about American Home Shield is that most of their reps are in the Philippines and while I love the people in the Philippines, I hate talking to them. I have PTSD and some hearing loss, and their accent just drives my PTSD crazy. I can't understand them and they keep repeating themselves. I cannot speak their language as well as they speak my language. But this is a business situation so I hated the people in the Philippines. Also, with some companies, when you get the Philippines, you can say you want an American rep and they transfer you. With these people, you can't. They only have that one line.
Second of all, I had three people promise me that they were gonna take care of something and that I'd hear something the next day but I did not. So I was about ready to cancel my membership. Most of the reps don't even know how to explain their process to me. I know it's not the reps' fault but it was horrible. The temperature in my house was 80 degrees, going on two weeks. Finally, somebody from America called me back and gave me permission to find my own subcontractor. But I had been so tired and busy with other things that I actually went out to use HomeAdvisor. I had researched good local contractors with them before and I got the permission to actually get one of those. But I'm still here with my air conditioner that's not working too well. So I'm probably going on three weeks now.
I used to do studies on the Sprint service center, the business office where people would call in and talk to customer service. Back then, if there was a problem, it would’ve been escalated right away but the people in the Philippines just didn't do that. The other thing with American Home Shield is that they don't have contractors in my area and then when South County came out for my furnace, I got hit with a trip charge. But it was kind of invisible because I still had the $100.
The issue with my furnace was that it wouldn't start and my neighbor who usually helps me came over. I thought maybe my pilot light had gone out but he thought it was worse than that. He said I needed to call someone smarter than him so I did. That was the first time I used American Home Shield. I got the little message online that I had been assigned to South County. Then the technician texted me right away but the only thing was that he couldn't come out right away and I was freezing to death. He was in training, which scared the hell out of me and he had to wait for the teacher to let them go. He said they usually let them go early. Then he had to drive down to Austin where his business was and pick up all of his equipment. Then he drove another hour down to my house. But he promised me he would be here that night and he was.
I'm kinda fussy and I was doubtful. I like to call my own people but that’s the disadvantage of having a home warranty. But this guy turned out to be knowledgeable and he was going for his certification. He was also very pleasant and kind. He went the extra mile. He said that we had wind the night before and if it blows out again, to call him and he would come and right it for free. So that was really stupendous.

The AC kept freezing up and wouldn't cool down the house. It took time for American Home Shield to process the paperwork. The AC unit was down for almost a month and the majority of it was just waiting on American Home Shield to go over the paperwork and allow Affordable Heating to come out and do the work. We're not the only ones out there to have to do claims and it's understandable. But it's miserable with the heat. When Affordable Heating came out, they found that the A-coil inside the unit was leaking and the wiring and had been chewed through. So, they replaced the A-coil and the wiring to the unit itself. It's working perfectly now. Their technician was awesome. He's very nice and professional. He did the work really quickly.

A-US Air of Texas was amazing. They were in and out. The appointment and the technicians were wonderful. The AC froze. They looked at it and they said, "I had to go get a part." They came back and they fixed it. Everything is working extremely well since then. I work for a hospital, and new physicians get hired on and I've recommended American Home Shield several times. We like the ease of having it. My daughter is in Tyler, Texas and we're in San Antonio. She's a 21-year-old by herself, and so it's so much easier having the warranty. We can't drive just to go look at something ourselves. So, it's great to have this benefit. It helps my daughter. We can trust the people that go there. It's not gonna be sketchy and nothing's gonna happen to her.
AHS has fixed our washer as well. Any time we've ever had a problem, they go way above and beyond to help us, so we're extremely satisfied. We've got a rental house in San Antonio and then my house in San Antonio, we're thinking of getting American Home Shield for those two homes as well. Having Home Shield has been a blessing. I've been a member of American Home Shield for about 15 years. They're not as good as they used to be. They're a little more expensive than they used to be and they find ways to not cover stuff. But overall, if one will ask me who to go with, American Home Shield is all I know. They're good. I'm in the car business and I know what warranty companies do to people. So, they're different. They may even be a little bit better than the average warranty company.
I do my claim with AHS online. You put your numbers in. It's good. You just go online, you put your contract number in, and then you see if you got your product that you're looking to get repaired is on there. If it is, you click it, and then they text you back with the company that's gonna come out. Then the company calls you, sets up an appointment and that's it. A week ago, AAA Action Garage Doors came out for an electrical issue. It was just a spring. They were very friendly, very polite and on time.

When the washer was spun, it banged really hard. And then, when I poured the liquid inside the little drawer for the detergent, it poured onto the floor from inside the machine. It was really weird. I don't know what the cause was, but both of those things were happening with the machine. I submitted the claim online. The website is fine but you can't explain anything if there were additional things going on. Before, when I used to be able to call in and request service, if there was more than one appliance or more than one thing needed, I was able to let Home Shield know at that one time. But you can't do that now. That's the only thing I don't like about the website.
The contractor, Active Appliance Service, was knowledgeable, very kind and thorough. The tech was able to figure out what the problem was. The machine has been leveled and I have not noticed anything dripping. The tech did not find the reason why the liquids just went down the floor like that so maybe because the washer was banging around when spinning. I really liked them. If I have any other appliance situation, I would like for them to come out even if it was the same guy. He was really nice. You feel a bit frustrated when your things break down, and he was fun and professional at the same time.

Appliance Solutions was here for our dryer on a couple of different occasions after we submitted a claim to AHS. They were the ones who were chosen by AHS to come out and do the service. My husband said that they seemed very knowledgeable. When they came out the first time, they identified some potential parts that needed to be replaced and we were gonna order them. Then we heard back from them saying that AHS decided that because of availability in parts, they were going to replace versus fix.
We haven't had a dryer for five weeks. It took a couple weeks to hear back from AHS to tell us the two options. But now, you just can't get appliances. We have one on order that will be here in another week. It’s been on order for a while. From what I understand, people can't get appliances either because they can't get them into the country fast enough or because so many people are doing home improvements. I have to call AHS again because Appliance Solutions should come out and hook up the new machine when we get it. The installation should be done by an approved vendor and that's the part I have to get figured out but I have full confidence that I would use them again.
The AHS website seems pretty easy to use. There's now a couple of times I haven't been able to log in but it was probably just website maintenance. Also, I was not able to get any status updates in terms of this dryer getting replaced versus being fixed. They just said the claim was closed so that was confusing. There was no other information there. It would have been nice to get more information there. I had to pick up the phone and call and wait on hold to get information. But the overall experience with AHS has been good. There's peace of mind knowing that in a situation like this, we saved a bunch of money instead of having to go replace something on our own.

It came out to be a replacement of the tub, brackets and bearings. They didn't repair it and told me the repairs were gonna be over $1,000. AHS said that the contractor submitted a report to them that they couldn't find anything wrong, which was a lie, because Americare Appliance Repair sent me a copy of the report. AHS doesn't wanna fess up the money to replace it. Instead, they would rather repair it. They requested a second opinion so I'm still without a washer, which is very disappointing.

I had to call in because my air unit was not cooling and I was on hold for a little over an hour. That was definitely a minus. Also, I had to file a claim for someone to come out to do the regular maintenance before the Covid-19 and the company that was coming out said that they could not come out because they were not coming inside when all this started. They never came but they charged my credit card. I have tried and tried to get in touch with them because they were supposed to have put it back on my card, so I felt like I had to hold because they never corrected that. It was a little bit of confusion at first, but a guy from Myers came right out the next day and he was very professional. He told my husband what he had to do, he was there 10 minutes and he was gone. The unit's cooling fine now.

I moved from up north from Pennsylvania. Cumulatively, I've been using American Home Shield for about 19 years, on and off. Their claims process is easy and you can process the claims online. We made a claim when water was gushing out of our AC terribly. South Cooling was our contractor for this one and they were very timely in getting out here. They found a clog in the drain. I was very pleased with the contractor American Home Shield utilized.
We've had several problems here in the condominium and American Home Shield has stepped up to the plate. But one contractor was a know-it-all and said the dishwasher wasn't gonna be replaced. He ordered parts. It was just a big mess. The unit ended up getting replaced. Also, there is a communication breakdown sometimes between the contractors and American Home Shield. But for the most part, I've had very good success with them.
The only real problem lately is their customer service lines. It's because of this virus. I waited for four and a half hours the other day. And then my phone died so I didn't get through. I had to call them back for a recall on my icemaker. All these things have gone bad and, fortunately, the warranty is covering them. But when it rains, it pours. I was on the phone for three and a half hours yesterday till I finally got ahold of someone.
American Home Shield had problems before too, but they cleaned them up and you could get through really quick. And I really liked the feature that they have that you can go ahead and put your number in for a callback. That's a very nice feature and you don't have to listen to the same thing on hold over and over again. The only negative is sometimes you get overseas people in customer service and there's a language barrier. I've had a handful that are good but most of them, I wouldn't hire them. You're good if you get Tennessee where their corporate office is. But that's not guaranteed. Maybe about half the time you get the overseas people.
American Home Shield has a few warts but overall, I’m very pleased with the company. Despite everything that's gone down, I always got what I needed in the end. It always ends up that they work very well. I'm the company's biggest salesperson. I blow their horn all the time to people I know. I tell them, “If you have anything that's five years or older in your house, you might wanna consider American Home Shield.” And American Home Shield ought to sell it that way because what's out there now is made to throw away and break.

AHS was recommended by a friend. The contractors that came out recently for our claim were very efficient. They diagnosed it pretty quickly, replaced the motherboard, and they didn't have to take everything apart. They just took out the back of the refrigerator up top, and then they put it back together, reset it, and we were able to use it until they got the part in. When they finally did get the part in, they were in and out in less than 10 minutes. They were really good. They were professional and put their booties and masks on. The ice maker is working now, maybe as good as it ever did, even including when we first purchased the refrigerator.

I submitted a claim with AHS online because the air conditioning wasn't cooling the house. I just followed the process and it was pretty easy and straightforward. It said I’d get a response within 24 hours. The service provided by the contractor was perfect. He did a strong, good evaluation. I had a contractor out earlier in the year, and he said everything was well. Obviously, they weren’t, but even though he thought he knew what the problem was, he went through and did the full evaluation. So far as I've used AHS, it's lived up to everything in the contract.

The top shelves of my refrigerator were freezing the food. The dishwasher was also taking way too long and it wasn't cleaning. On the dishwasher, the guy replaced the part that he needed to replace. The time is now less and it seems like the dishes are coming out clean. That claim is completely finished. For the refrigerator, the guy came in and adjusted the thermostat on the freezer and other issues that it had. But it comes and goes. It's not because of the service provider but this is about the fourth time I called for the same thing. The problem hasn't been really corrected. It's tiring because it takes time and you have to wait for someone to come in. Once you call that for the same reason over and over, there should be something more to be done. But the process for submitting claim is efficient and easy to follow, and I'm very happy with American Home Shield.

Original Review: So after waiting over a month for a decision on replacing my refrigerator the first technician broke! The second technician confirmed my 5 year old refrigerator was damaged by the first technician and had to be replaced. I got a phone call this morning that management has chosen to believe the word of the first technician???. They said I could pay for a third opinion if I’d like! Umm they must be crazy! I immediately cancelled my policy and will be suing them in small claims court! AHS is the worst, incompetent company I’ve ever dealt with!

On June 10, 2020, we submitted a claim on our air conditioner which is not working correctly. It runs, and blows semi cool air from time to time, but our house hovers around 80° when the thermostat set below 70. We paid our service fee, and shortly after received a message that our contractor had been assigned and would call us within 24 hours to set up service.
24 hours came and went and our contractor did not reach out, so we called the number provided to get the ball rolling. It took another day, it the contractor finally came over and informed is that yes our ac needed work and really should be replaced because it is not Compatible with the new Freon And our furnace would need to be replaced then, too, because it is an old style that is not compatible with the new Freon, either. He said he needed to call the company and get approval and he was going to be out of town for a week, so it might be a few weeks. We were also headed out of town for a while, so this seemed acceptable to us. Approximately two weeks later, we returned from our trip, and contacted the contractor.
After many attempts to contact him, and him not returning a single call or message, we contacted American Home Shield on 6/30 in the middle of the afternoon. After waiting on hold for over 35 minutes to talk to someone, we finally got ahold of someone in customer service who let us know that our Contractor has not even filed his initial report to get approval to repair the air conditioner. We let them know how frustrated we were and that this has been going on for nearly 3 weeks at this point and could we get a new contractor sent out to take over so we could get the repair taken care of. We were told they had to reach out and try to get the original contractor to submit documents and give him 24 hours. I’d nothing happened in that 24 hour period, they would assign a new contractor.
At 3 pm the next day, July 1st, we called back as it had been over 24 hours and no one had called us back. We waited on hold for another 33 minutes, only to be hung up on during our call. Another call and another 30 minutes on hold and we got ahold of someone who tried to tell us we needed to wait another 24 hours. After much arguing we were told that a supervisor by the name of Alvin would call us Within the hour to see what we could work out. The phone did actually ring but it was the same person we had talked to before. She informed is that the escalation center could talk to us and we could go that route, but for some reason that would waive our ability to talk to her supervisor, Alvin. We chose to talk to escalation.
We were connected with a woman named Jocelyn. She apologized and said she would rectify the situation, but she needed 2 hours. We reluctantly gave her the two hours, but she did call back in the allotted time to inform us we had been approved to get a new contractor so she put in a request to have a new contractor for assigned but due to it being late, around 7:30 pm , it would be the next day, it Jocelyn assures is she would call around 7 or 8 am. At 8:30 we had not received a call back so we called back in to the company. They appear to have added an option to get a call back which is appreciated as opposed to sitting on hold.
About 20 minutes later someone Called us back. We gave them the run down and they looked into our account. They claim Jocelyn is On the phone with the contractor department and to give them some more time. We logged into our online account and do see that they have changed the status to waiting for a contractor to be assigned, but no luck getting any more progress. Would really like to get this resolved. It’s been Over 3 weeks since I Made the claim. It’s a shame because our first claim, for a leaking drain pipe was resolved quickly and to our satisfaction, but this has completely ruined our opinion of this business.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

We had someone come to my house because my ceiling fan started not to work all of a sudden. I thought it was gonna be so expensive. The tech came out and he said that it was really gone. He actually had one in and he was able to get me one and it was no cost to me. It was a win-win and it was wonderful. I've had this now for three years and it's running like a champ.
My granddaughter and her fiance and a brand-new baby had nowhere to go so they came in to live with me. Then the bill I got from the water company was three times what I'd usually do when it was just me. Home Shield had someone come out to check if there was a leak somewhere or something was happening 'cause I could keep hearing the water coming on. The guy checked the system and he even calculated how it would be three times the amount of water usage because there were now two other adults using the shower. But he was so nice and excellent. He was able to calculate it for me and it was okay. He also told me some things to try if it would be better.
Now, I tried to get hold of the people that put the Trane in for me before but I was never able to get a hold of him at all. So I called American Home Shield and we had a tech he came out. Then within 15 minutes, maybe tops 25 minutes, I had cold air. The technician from Air Pro was professional. He also wore his mask, which I wanted. He had to go on his back to get into the air purifier. My Trane was outside my house and he went in there and checked it all out. He said that there were just a few minor adjustments that he had to make. It came on and did beautifully until yesterday. It was very hot, and the AC was making all kinds of noise and it went up to 84. But when I turned it off completely, waited 20 minutes, and rebooted it, the air came on fine. I have multiple sclerosis. So, this air conditioning is a godsend for me.
It's just me here and I don't have anybody I can call to check things out. And now, I have this new family with me too and they know nothing and they're depending on me to know all of this. With American Home Shield, I have the experts. I've called them and I've never been disappointed. I recommend them to all my friends all the time.

From waiting for 50 minutes or more to speak to them to finding out the part has not been ordered and it’s been over 4 days... our AC has been down for almost a week. It’s hot/humid in our house (FL) and they mentioned it had to be 105 degrees F, for us to get any expedited service to include the AC part. They also hired a company that could not come for a few days after we called. I asked to speak with a manager who never returned the phone call. The lack of professionalism and urgency for customers with issues that affect their health and well-being is beyond disappointing. And yet....we are still waiting. The guy who came for my air conditioner recently was wonderful. He was excellent and very professional. I felt so bad for him though. He was up in the attic, came home, his shirt was totally wet and soaked. But, he fixed my air conditioner. It was very good. However, when I was up in that bedroom the other day and the panel that he removed has all his dirty fingerprints on it. He probably didn't even realize that. But it's no big deal. I'll just paint over it.
Last year, I got a new air conditioner. That was great. It was through American Home Shield. They paid for my new air conditioner. When I got my air conditioner from a different company, it was not American Home Shield, they gave me a year warranty for labor and parts. My air conditioner went out. When I called the company who installed the air conditioner, they told me I had to go through American Home Shield. I said, “ Why do I need to do that? They're gonna charge me $75. You provided the air conditioner with a year warranty for labor, so why am I paying American Home Shield $75?” The girl said, “Well, that's just the way it is.” It was as hot as can be so I called American Home Shield and paid my $75 to them to have someone come out.

We were having a problem with our air conditioner and American Home Shield has been called five times on this same air conditioner. They did fine but it's so difficult for American Home Shield to get anyone out in 90 something degrees summer within a week. I have my real estate license, so I sell a lot of American Home Shield home warranties and if it hadn't been for our regional manager for American Home Shield, I wouldn't have gotten it done within eight days. That seemed ridiculous to have to wait that long when people are trying to survive in such hot weather. I’m paying a lot of money out and I have to wait a long time to get service.
Also, they just kept putting off replacing the AC unit. I've had them say they'd go get an air conditioner for the house before they'd replace one. One of my clients said that they were told that AHS would pay them to get a window air conditioner until they could get their unit fixed. AHS puts bandaids on when they need to just go ahead and replace it. And if there's just something wrong with it, that's fine that they can fix it quickly. But they fight everything to replace items and to kind of get the job done. Then sometimes, when the companies around that they've used eventually come out, they fix the problem. But the slowness of getting an appointment is still something they should improve on. All in all, people generally get a little bit discouraged with AHS. In fact, I know realtors who are changing over some other companies. But after I have eight years invested of money, I hate to change. I have been thinking about changing for my clients, though.

They had an earlier date to come out but then that didn't work with my schedule so they gave me another one. Still, they had a quick turnaround for coming out. Plus, the techs who came figured out what the issue was and gave me feedback on what was going on. I asked them some questions, they were nice and answered them. My AC functions very well now.
This has been my second claim with AHS. They have been very quick, efficient and helpful. The repair would have cost me if I had not had American Home Shield. There was a blockage and a leakage in the kitchen sink, and Amazing Plumbing came. The first day, the only guy came and he said he had to bring some other guy again. They came 2 days later with one other guy, cleaned the pipe and went. They thought it was fixed, but the leakage was still there beneath the disposal. I called back and they said I had to call American Home Shield for recall. I called and they sent them the message. Then they called me for an appointment. The same guy came and checked it out. He replaced the disposal and everything is working fine since then. In this case, American Home Shield gave perfect service and was timely. The only thing I don't like is too long waiting time. Whenever I call, I have to wait 45 minutes to 75 minutes before anybody picks up the phone.
I have another claim for my dryer. Sears came in the same day and the plumbing company came in the very next day. That was really fantastic. When the guy was leaving, I asked him what was wrong and he said the panel was shot. He also said he would send the details within 24 hours to Sears. Every day, I was on phone for 2 hours while they tried to connect Sears. I have about 30-plus hours on hold, and I keep on going back and forth. Everybody else tried to help me but I was calling everyday from the 25th till the 6th or the 7th and I was on the phone for more than 2 hours.
Finally, when I called last Thursday, the lady was fantastic. She said their Sears server is not connected with the American Home Shield server directly. She took care of me. I was on hold for 172 minutes again and finally, they picked up and they said the replacement was there. Now I'm waiting for the trucking company to call me to tell me when are they going to be delivering my washer. Other than the waiting time, American Home Shield is fantastic.

I had one toilet in particular that had gone from running intermittently for no reason to the tank not refilling. So, it was in bad shape. I had already called American Home Shield once before and a plumber came out. It was a very unsatisfactory and unproductive event. The plumber that was sent by American Shield was some private person with his business he runs with his son. The fellow looked at both of my toilets and said that they were off-brands and he didn't have the parts. Then, he gave me his business card and he spent more time trying to sell me on a popular toilet that he kept saying everybody wants. He said they had it at Home Depot and that he could replace them. That was a waste of time.
When I called AHS again, the rep got the appointment scheduled and paid attention when I specified that they should not send the last plumber because they were useless. And she didn’t. Jamie Parrish got assigned to the job and the person who came was extremely professional. He wore a mask, identified the problem and answered some of my questions. The representative went above and beyond and all the way. He pointed out to me that Gerber is a long-standing brand. He got right in his truck, he had the parts and he fixed it. He was very quick and I'm happy with them. The toilets are great and not wasting water anymore by intermittently running.

It's easy doing claims with American Home Shield. I'd like to call it in. They're normally pretty busy, so it takes some time to reach a representative. You can be on hold for an hour or a little more. As far as their contractors, I've never had any issues with anyone except for the people from KJ Mechanical that came out on Sunday. They were absolutely rude. I have never encountered someone like that in my entire life. The driver came into our driveway. So, my husband was waiting on him to receive him.
My husband was waiting for over 10 minutes and he was still in his truck. So, as he came out, my husband said, "Hey, it will be nice whenever you arrive to somebody's home, just to let them know. If you're busy, let them know that you have acknowledged them." He got out of his truck and he said, "Do you want me to service your equipment? Yes or no? Anyways, I'm out of here," and he left. He was very aggressive. We've never encountered that before. So we called the customer service to let them know, and we explained to them what happened. They said, "Oh, it doesn't matter. Get somebody else because we're a five-star company. And it doesn't matter what you say what you do, we always remain with our five-star." I said, "Oh my goodness, is that how you operate?" He said, "I will go ahead and let American Home Shield know that you guys have violated the COVID-19 clause."
I said, "How is it that we violated if we have to ask when the person comes to our home?" He said, "No, you can't say anything to them. You can't tell them anything." I said, "Okay, so how am I supposed to let them know where the unit is placed or what's wrong with the unit?" He said, "You tell them nothing." I said, "Oh my goodness, you guys are absolutely rude. I've never experienced something like this." He said, "Well, do whatever you want to do." I'll never use that company. I have never experienced something like this before, and I've used American Home Shield for a long time. I've used Sears before and we've never encountered something like this. So I was totally baffled. As far as AHS, I haven't had any issues with them. I let them know what happened.
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

When AHS's contractors came for an issue with my heater, some problem occurred again soon after they fixed it. More recently, I submitted a claim for my AC unit and one of AHS's contractors called Trantel Heating and Cooling came to do service. The techs were very kind and they fixed things very well. They solved my problem so fast too which I appreciated.

The first time United Air Temp came out, the AC wasn't cooling. They put some freon in and we thought it was fixed but we had a few cool days. When it turned hot again, the air was doing the same thing. The guy came out and changed the capacitor. He was supposed to come a third time to flush the system but when he got here, it was working good and he didn't think that it needed flushing. He was very knowledgeable unlike the first one that was sent. He knew what he was doing. The AC is working good right now, so I don't have any problems with it anymore. I also had a problem with the air which was my first claim. My air wasn't coming. It was only going out upstairs, it wasn't coming downstairs. Someone came here and fixed that so that was good.

I like the peace of mind that comes with having Home Shield. When the shower drain was stopped up, I was all right with waiting a day for the repair. The tech from Wicker Installation was very courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. He was able to take care of the repair the same day. We also recently had a claim to get our air conditioner fixed. It was 83 and 86 in the house. However, we had to wait two days to get that fixed. I was not happy about waiting. The commercials on TV say that they come out all the time, but that was not the case. And with the heat of Texas, that was a very long time to wait.

The provider came out and it was great. They fixed the issue with the dryer and they were very professional. It's a whole different story with American Home Shield though. I'm glad they could help me on that case, but I've called in the past for other things and even though they say they’ll refund your money when they can't help you, they never do. You can call them back and they say they're going to refund it and still, they never do. On little stuff, they're good, but on the major problems, the stuff you need them on, that's where they fall short. That’s also where we have issues and that's where we have to either pay a lot because it's not covered, or we have to get somebody else 'cause either they can't do the work, it's too complicated or the provider they put out is not that great.
I've had American Home Shield for seven years. They have been helpful on certain things, like on the dryer issue, but we had a water problem, and it's fine that they couldn’t help. They just had to tell me that and they still charged me $75. I called them up for another water thing and they said they could get somebody out, and they couldn't get anybody. It was a major thing, so we had to call somebody anyway. We called American Home Shield and asked for a refund of the $75 since they couldn't get somebody out and there was another runaround for that. In both cases, it was never refunded. I contemplated about canceling them this year, but my husband's like, "What if something major does go?" because they have helped with the AC issues before.
The AC is a big deal and it could have been a big chunk of change, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Anytime it comes to plumbing or water (things you need somebody) though, they can't help you. It always happens on the worst day too, like a day they’re not in business or a holiday. American Home Shield says they can get providers but the fact is they can't. I live in a metropolitan area and it's very difficult for them to get people out on those times. Sometimes, we shake our heads. Now, my sister has a different experience, but I know of several other people that have almost the same experience that I've had with them. Either you get a good provider and you get lucky, or you don't get lucky.
If American Home Shield can't help me, then they should just say they can't help me. If they can't get the provider out (or when they get there, they say it's not covered) and we still have to pay $75 on top of the insurance we already pay, that's the biggest thing. There has got to be a better way of doing it. $75 is a big chunk of change for them not helping sometimes. I didn't mind the $75 on the dryer claim because they fixed the problem, but it was a minor one. Let's be real. I'm not rich, but I'm not poor. If the dryer did break, I could either get G & L (the provider that did the dryer) out, pay them myself and not pay that big insurance co-pay.
I don't know how much money I save with the insurance. With the $75-co-pay and with the insurance I pay, maybe I saved 50 bucks on that call, but I could buy a new dryer with all that money too. This year is one of those tipping years where I think I'm paying a whole lot out but I'm not getting a whole lot back. American Home Shield has been helpful in the past and I'll keep them for just that peace of mind if the AC goes again. Honestly though, it's a coin toss with them. If they would’ve just refunded my $75 when I didn't use them, or the appointment got cancelled or they couldn't help me, this would be different. I've had to go through multiple phone calls and they still didn't do what I asked. It’s those little things in customer service that make all the difference.
It's not that they had to cover me. It's how they treated me to get that coverage. If they were nice about it, they could either say they couldn't help me or they're not gonna charge me $75 until I use them. They used to have that policy when I first got them, but now it changed to where I have to pay up front. I don't like that because unfortunately, either they send out the wrong technicians, the providers can't fix the problem, or they can't get out in a timely manner. There's always a catch. The simple customer service thing of not charging you until you use the service would be a big difference in the star rating.

The air wasn't getting hot anymore and the people said the unit had gone bad. May Heating and Air was prompt with what they said they would come. After they put the unit in, the guy was telling me what he was gonna do and I said to just hook it up. Then I had one of that shoots up in the attic to come loose. After they did it, he had to come back out again. I also had a couple of times where I would have it set at 73 and it was getting 79 degrees in here. The guy came out. It took him a couple of times, but he got it right this time. Everything's been perfectly functioning. Having American Home Shield was a good idea as it was kind of time for my stuff to start going bad 'cause I had it a while.

American Home Shield is usually good. But sometimes when we call, it's two weeks before they can get somebody out. So we had to call them back and they would look for somebody else. People would want them sooner and they should try to find those people. Otherwise, they've been very helpful and they get everything done. The technician from Lund Heating did a great job on our AC. Unfortunately, at the time, he was swamped. So, he came out a day later than he thought, but he kept in contact to let us know what was going on. It was just nice to have him communicate. Then when he was there, he was in and out really quick in 30 minutes and figured it out, and then explained it all to me. He was really good. And the AC has been working ever since.

I've been with American Home Shield about three or four years and right now, it’s not good at all. I called in my claim to American Home Shield and nobody was answering the phone. The last couple of times I called, I had to wait an hour and I had to put it on speaker. It's getting worse and I know they have a center but that’s the biggest problem with AHS. They need to start answering their phone because it's pathetic that you have to wait that long on the phone to get a service. So you feel kinda sour because you gotta go through all that. It's bad. Everybody doesn't have the internet and cell phones so they need to get more people onto that. You don't have customer service and it just goes down the drain with me. So, they need to get it together. $75 every month is coming out of me and I don't use them that much. So, I can find another company, give them a try and see how they do with me.
At first, I was upset with the guy who was the manager of South Belt AC. I don't like people telling me they're gonna come a day and don't come or even call and tell you the reason why they're not coming. So, I had to get on them about that. If you're not coming today and if the part didn't come in, you should give your customer a courtesy call. Communication is the key to anything. Ron was supposed to come another day and he didn't come, and I ended up calling him. He took care of me. So, he knows I like good customer service and the only thing I ask is for a phone call.

Comfort Pros came out for two separate issues. The first of one was for the air conditioning upstairs. It was really hot on a 90-degree day and it was super humid up there. The air conditioner was doing nothing. So the tech came out and looked around it, added a couple of ounces of Freon, did a couple of tweaks and then he left. It seemed to work, so that was good. Then a couple of weeks later, the same guy came out for the evaporator pump. Apparently, it was clogged so instead of going into my drainage, the water was going on my floor so I had to put buckets. So he came out and fixed that. He was very friendly and professional. He wore his mask when he came in. I tend to be somewhat annoying 'cause I ask a lot of questions. But he answered all of them.
When submitting claims with American Home Shield online, you just pick a couple of things, answer a couple of questions, check off a couple of boxes and next thing you know, you've got a name and a phone number of a company that's gonna come out. Then I usually call them within 24 hours if I don't hear from them to schedule something. Everything is fine now. There's no more water leaking on my floor and the upstairs seems a little bit cooler. We could now sleep at night 'cause it wasn't really humid.

I had a good experience with Mr. Plumber. This is my second time with Mr. Plumber because I had another issue prior. The job isn't over yet. He's supposed to be coming back to fix one of the issues that were ongoing. There were three issues he came here for. He fixed two of them. Not really to his fault because it's a part thing and with the whole COVID thing going on, stores aren't open and things are hard to get. But the guy's a professional. He knows what he's doing. He's been doing it for a while.
When I put in a claim with AHS, I go online. It's fairly straightforward. Their contract in general is also not difficult to read. It's very basic so I appreciate that. However, when I had an issue in the bathroom and there was a plumber I had come by and he was like, “I can go through the wall, the tile and fix it all up, but I'm not sure if it covers it.” I was like, “Let's wait and see if it's covered.” It turned out it wasn't covered. But in defense of American Home Shield, he called them to find out and then they reached out to me almost immediately by sending me an email just to let me know that it wasn't covered and that if I have questions, to call them.

The little light that indicated the issue would flash, and it would stop. I filed the claim through the American Home Shield's website and it was easy to use. I didn't have any difficulty. The website said that I should expect to hear from somebody within was 24 to 48 hours. I got a phone call that same day to set up the actual appointment with the company that they contacted. It took about 5 days for them to come but the guy was very professional and did everything well. He fixed the problem so I was happy. I haven't had the same issue recur and my dryer's been functioning appropriately. It made my life easier because I couldn't do my laundry until it was fixed. The tech from All Star was professional and good but Home Shield wasted time trying to get me a refurbished compressor for my AC unit and they sent the wrong compressor. That took three weeks and two weeks later, I finally get the right compressor. Also, my card got shut off and they called me up super quick to get their payment. But I had no idea what was going on throughout the process with my AC unit.
American Home Shield told me that my contractor had dropped the ball. I called the contractor up and he said Home Shield hasn't sent him the part and he was waiting on them to send it. They gave me the parts department and transferred me but nobody ever answered. I called 20 times and each time, I was on hold for a minimum of 40 minutes. They kept telling me it was gonna take 24 hours for them to get back to me but they never got back to me. It was awful. Home Shield is the worst company I’ve ever had to deal with. We have been with Home Shield for just a few short months, but when we called them, they replied promptly and were very polite. Lasseignes Heating & AC came out, made an inspection and filed their report. They took care of us very well. They put in even a better unit that was there to start with. They went above and beyond what they could have done so we're very pleased.
Home Shield was fast, polite and efficient. I would recommend them. I've seen on TV several new companies that are similar to theirs, but if I were recommending somebody to a friend I would go with Home Shield because they are well established and have the bugs worked out. Recently, Heros Plumbing came out for my hot water heater and toilet. Both my hot water heaters weren't working so the guy had put on both of them a thermocouple. He had also dismantled both of the toilets and fixed the leaks. I have no problem since. However, people might wanna be aware that each time they call in, there's gonna be a service fee of $75. We made multiple service requests and there was one for a faucet in our kitchen. We made it at the same time that we made the swamp coolers, and we still haven't gotten that dealt with. We finally have an appointment, but it has been several weeks. And then, we have a situation with a ceiling fan that was also made at the same time. The light wasn't working and the contractor said, "Oh well, I got two out of the three lights working. Is that good enough?" No, it isn't. We could've done that. And then, he wanted to order a light kit. He wrote in there that there was something missing, so then Home Shield didn't cover it. We also had something for a pool heater. Apparently, rodents had eaten something inside, but it's not covered, which is a very expensive not covered item. That's in the fine print. Unfortunately, we don't always know about all the fine print until something happened and there we are.
We have a swamp cooler. We requested for Tempal to come out because it was not working properly. There were two issues with it. The motherboard apparently was not running anymore. So, first Tempal had to order that and it took a while for that to come in, but the tech was very good about communicating with us during the wait. He told us at the time that he ordered it, that it would take a while because one of them was for another customer. But when it finally came in, he got that put in. And then he made an adjustment as well. It has a water line, because that's how it cooled, and he made an adjustment to that because there had been a bit of a leak. And it didn't appear that it was leaking anymore. But then it turned out, it leaked again so we ended up having to have him come back.
We just called him back and let him know that there was an issue. He looked it over and it turned out that we needed some kind of a valve float going on in there. He had to order that as well. He came back. It didn't take too long. He then replaced it and it was good. He did a good job. It took a little while but that wasn't anybody's fault. It's just things are slow right now with COVID.

We have been with AHS for over 5 years I'm embarrassed to say and they have the worst contractors and the worst customer service. I think I've gotten only 2 good reps on the phone and they were fixing problems. We're in the middle of a work order now in which parts have been ordered in June and it's July now and the contractor is saying they can't find parts at all but they won't call us or update us unless we call to find out the status. I finally got so frustrated because my dad is 76 years old and our toilets aren't working and I called AHS and told them to fix the problem because the contractor said we may need new toilets. Instead we get transferred twice, hung up on and told to "keep our ears open" for the contractor to call us on the update for the parts when we specifically said they're not updating us at all.
AHS doesn't screen these contractors because they don't have any pride in their work. They're having to return to complete the job that should've been done in the initial visit. When you complain and give feedback no one can't be reading these complaints because nothing changes. When you do a work order these same contractors' names come right back up.

If I could give them zero stars I would. I have spent 6 hours within the past week trying to get a resolution on my evaporator cooler. If you read their information on this site is says there is "no limit" on AC and heating coverage - that's a lie. What they don't tell you is that they have numerous "exclusions", which is essentially everything. My first call, 2 hours, could not properly explain exactly what my out of pocket charges of $2339.00 was for and would not provide an itemized list. Was promised a call back by the end of the day. That was last Friday. My second call, another 2 hours, was this past Monday. The customer service rep had absolutely no clue what he was talking about. He also first quoted me $2339.00, but after I pushed him as to what these were for, it miraculously changed to only $195.00 out of pocket.
I then pushed as to why I would be charged a second service fee of $106.39 because I already paid one service fee for the same issue and it had not been resolved. By the end of the call I owed nothing. He kept putting me on hold in between. I then requested an email confirming this. He said he could not, he would update it on my account and then put me on hold and then I was disconnected. My third call, another 2 hours, was Tuesday. I demanded to speak to a manager, who I was denied. Ruth, the customer service rep, just kept repeating the same scripted answers to my questions and we were back to me owing $2339.00 out of pocket. At least this time she was somewhat able to explain that it was because the contractor had quoted that the repair needed a "modification" and a permit and they don't cover those.
I demanded to speak with a supervisor. After being put on hold multiple times I was promised that Supervisor Melds would call me back in 5-30 minutes. That was 2 days ago. So, here I am hoping that *someone* from AHS will see this message and have someone, a manager....who can actually make decisions and not just regurgitate scripted answers to me..and not from their call center....call me back and get my work order approved so our air conditioning can be fixed.

I have had the same AHS policy in place for five years. We finally filed claim on a refrigerator that went out on May 26. Paid $100 upon filing service request online. Technician came out in 48 hours and condemned the refrigerator as unfixable. Online the request was showing completed. I heard nothing for 10 days. Called AHS, was on hold one hour 8 minutes, only to be told I would have to speak to purchasing dept which was closed. Called next day, on hold one hour 12 minutes waiting for purchasing to say the options on refrigerator would be emailed to me, once I decide it would be 10-14 days for payment. I choose to buy my own unit since we needed a refrigerator. Emailed and faxed purchase invoice for reimbursement on June 11. It is July 2, on hold over an hour still nothing on other end, and still no reimbursement.

I have service calls for a washer and oven outstanding, I placed the request to fix the washer over 6 weeks ago and it's still not repaired. If I log in to the website it says that I need to call AHS to speak with them about replacement. Why do I have to sit on hold for hours on end to just be cut off when you could just call me, isn't that easier? It seems like they are trying to get out of their contractual obligation to replace the appliances. I'm extremely disappointed with the customer service experience. Would not recommend you waste your money with them.

I usually never do negative reviews but this time it’s completely warranted. Fully paid Home Warranty. Never filed a claim and then my refrigerator goes out. Easy process to file a claim with AHS then things get VERY hard. 1st assigned contractor doesn’t show and won’t answer calls. AHS can’t be reached and no way to provide feedback of the posted status online. 3 1/2 hours on hold and am told they will reassign a new contractor. 2nd contractor comes out and say he can’t fix it but will keep my claim open. Closes the claim and then it's closed by AHS. New claim for the 3rd time of for the same broken fridge. 3rd contractor comes out and says he doesn’t really work of Samsung but he will try and replace something to see if it helps. Again, no way to update or apprise AHS of the situation.
2 weeks later a different tech comes out, states he does not know the issues but will replace the part anyway. Does not work and then says he will keep the service ticket open. He closes it and AHS closes the ticket again. 3 hours online and they open a new ticket with the same contractor who just came out and could not fix the issues.
All in all, I’m out my full paid yearly dues, plus the initial 125 for a service call. My refrigerator has been out for over 28 days and I can’t even speak to anyone at AHS to tell me how much more of this I need to endure. I considering legal proceedings if this keeps going. If you look at their Facebook page or Twitter account and see the posted that are initially hidden you will see literally hundreds of very recent complaints just like mine. CONSIDER yourself Warned.

6 months after my home purchase I started to get a small shock from a water spicket. I opened a claim and had an electrician come out. They claimed the cause was a missing ground rod outside at the main panel and some other parts within the subpanel inside the home. AHS says since parts are supposedly missing the service is not covered which is understandable. However, the home has a ground wire running to something buried in the ground so that part is not missing (perhaps not sufficient?).
Also, I feel the vendor was wrong about the root cause of the issue and called American Home Shield to explain but got nowhere. If the problem is the ground rod which affects the whole house then how come my issue is localized at only one place and not at all outlets and other spickets? I feel the right call by AHS would have been to send someone out for a second opinion given my concerns. I will just get the issue fixed on my own as I already wasted 75$ for what was essentially a normally free estimate.

He would turn in his report & I should hear from AHS by end of the day. I did not hear from them. I gave them until 6/29/2020 to contact me. I called them on 6/29 & was in hold for 45 minutes before anyone answered. They said I had to speak with the Appliance Purchasing Dept for my options. They transferred me & I was on hold for 2 hours, no answer & was disconnected. I called back & same routine. On hold for an hour before I got an answer, they were going to transfer me & I asked them not to that they don't answer. They said they would stay on line until they did. Lie!! Another 2 hour wait & disconnected.
I have spent a total of 11 or more hours on the phone. I have sent messages via Facebook Messenger, only to be told to call. I have been without a refrigerator for over a week. I see many other customers having the same issues. I have ordered & paid for a new refrigerator and want to be reimbursed. I have a feeling I'm going to have to take it to court.

I would recommend American Home Shield. Getting a warranty was discussed with the Realtors and they decided to throw the warranty in along with the purchase price of the house. It's paid for a year, and we will be renewing it when the time comes. My wife did a service request online and then we had a scheduled appointment when the contractor was gonna come out. When the guy from Sears came, I was not there, but my wife said he was super nice. He was thorough with the whole situation and he found out what the issue was within a matter of a few minutes. We just had to wait for the part to come in and once the part came in, it was resolved within a couple of days afterwards. Our dishwasher is functioning way better now and I made my wife happier. It's a dishwasher and they're never 100%, but it wasn't working at all before the repair.

I liked that when we call them, they get the right person that does the particular job, and then usually I hear from them within hours. It's very easy to submit the claims online. We put in a claim when the hot water dispenser of the kitchen sink wasn't working. The tech came out and it was working. He turned it on and the water was hot. But when he left, we realized it was hot, but it was not as hot as it was supposed to be. The tech said that if we had any issues to let him know and they would come back and replace it. So they're coming back today.

Everything went well with Greenbelt Appliance when they came out. There was something making noise in the washer. It was in spin cycle, and it sounded like it took off. It was the bearing. The tech said the machine’s just so old and he couldn't replace it. I haven't heard from American Home Shield to replace my appliance. They said it needed to be replaced. They already bought a replacement. I tried to call Home Shield, but I've been on hold for hours each time.
I've had Home Shield on all my properties. I had it on my rental for about seven years, and then I've had it on this house for over three years. Before this COVID thing, it was really easy to get a hold of them, especially on our rental when they would go out and repair something. It was very convenient to use them. I've always recommended them highly. Even though I can't get a hold of them right now, I love having the coverage.

We've had a number of different claims with American Home Shield and different people have come and all of them have been professional, helpful and they have done a good job. Mr. Appliance is one of the best we've had. Strong's Appliance Repair out of Cleveland was also very good and very professional. We had to take apart the old refrigerator to get it out. They don't usually do installation and they came because they couldn't find anybody who wanted to do the installation. They sent enough people, they did not tear up the house or bang things around. They were really good about it and they helped us get the new one all put back together. I couldn't ask for a nice repair people they sent out.
I've been pleased with American Home Shield so far. We had a gentleman come in from Repair My Appliances from this area for my stove problem. When we dealt with the refrigerator, a different appliance people came with a similar name, and it would be nice if AHS could send back the same people. When you're working with somebody, you develop a relationship with it. It would've been helpful. It's not that any of them has been bad, it's just you're starting over and developing a rapport with the people and bringing them into your house. The other ones, you know who they are. You feel comfortable letting them in. My wife and I are in our 70's. We're usually the ones here taking care of things, and it's nice to have the same people come back and feel like you're dealing with somebody you know.

The refrigerator wasn't working and it defrosted all my food. I called American Home Shield and the rep was fantastic. When the Whirlpool contractor came out the first time, all he did was adjust under my refrigerator and said that was what the problem was. I told him that I adjust all the time under my refrigerator and he said that that was the problem. I said okay and he said that if that didn’t work, I should call him back in two days. It didn’t work and it was doing the same thing it did. I told him it was coming off and going back on. He said that fixed the problem. I said that was fine and stocked my food back up. That was on a Wednesday and I lost $600 worth of meat in my refrigerator. He came out and told me to call back by Friday. The refrigerator was still doing fine on Friday but on Saturday morning, I woke up and all my ice cream was melted. Everything in my refrigerator gone bad again and this is the second time in a week.
I have to go through American Shield so they sent out another company. The guy came out and told me that some kind of switchboard was going bad on it. He would have to order the parts and come back. He was very pleasant, knowledgeable and content. I just wasn't happy that we have to wait again. I went without a refrigerator for almost a week and then, he brought it back out, put it in and it worked. My food and the refrigerator were fine but now, my ice wasn't working. So, I called American Shield back and they sent out the guy who came the first time. I told him that it was my ice machine that was not working now but it was working fine when the guy put the switchboard in. The guy came back and checked to see if the guy left it on off, which he hadn't. He said he was gonna have to order a valve and that they ordered the wrong part. Another week later and he finally got it working this past Friday.
I'm happy with American Home Shield. They are attentive and tried to get me help. But I'm not happy that I have to go without my appliances for three months. I had an experience last year with AHS where my washing machine quit working. It was the same guy who came out for it and he had to come six times before my washing machine was finally replaced. When the contractors call in and you give them all the information of the appliance, they should come with the part instead of rescheduling. American Home Shield would schedule you within a day or two and then, the contractor would call back. I even told the lady the last time. She gave me a date and I said that it didn't matter. They're gonna call back and reschedule it anyway. But at least I'm in the system and I'm getting some help.
There's only so much that can be wrong with a refrigerator, a freezer and a washing machine. It was a basic washing machine and not one of these high dollar that you have to have years of classes to learn how to use. It was a nightmare because at that time, I had my mother-in-law who has dementia that uses the bathroom in the bed. I live out in the country so a Laundromat was not very convenient and I also had to schedule somebody to sit with my mother-in-law while I did this because she wasn't allowed to be left alone.

My air conditioner kept overflowing into the garage, so I knew something was wrong. I kept trying to fix it myself and blow it out and then I finally called AHS. Air Control Experts came out and the guy was nice enough. He said I was down a pound of Freon. But I shouldn't be. I spent $1,500 before I moved in here. I asked him to check the leak and he said he couldn't because it's not down three pounds. He said if it springs up again, they would come back within a month. But I just called the people who worked on it and asked them a big favor. Their guy came out and looked at it. There was a leak and he fixed it.
I was really disappointed because I read the warranty and it said that all the Freon and stuff was covered. Then, if you read the fine print on a different page, you pay like $35 out of the 45. I was really frustrated because I ended up spending more money using the warranty than I would if I just called the service person to come out and give me a pound of Freon. But I asked the air guy if there's a different warranty company I should go with and he said they're the best that he's worked with.

I was very happy with the experience with one exception and that is the length of the response time because of the holiday. Over the 4th of July weekend, the capacitor on our unit went out. We learned that after the fact. So we spent the fifth of July in 95-degree heat. On Tuesday, Comfort came out and the tech was actually early. He said he would be there around 2:00 and he got there around 12:42. Anyhow, he walked right out and took care of the issue. He discovered it was the capacitor, replaced it and was out in 15 minutes. He was very polite, friendly and helpful.
I was very satisfied with the visit. It was great but because of the heat, I would have appreciated a response that's quicker than two days. My wife and our cats were suffering. But I don't know if there's anything American Home Shield can do about that because it was a holiday weekend and I don't know their protocols for handling those types of situations. Also, although I liked the website I wish that it had a few more options for filing claims so they could give more detail. It was an HVAC problem but since we didn't know exactly what the HVAC problem was, we had to leave it fairly general and guess the topic to use. "It's making strange noises; the condenser is wrong" – some more options would be nice but we handled it.

The icemaker in my refrigerator was broken. Sears came out, and it was the second time they had been out for it. They had fixed it in October and the same thing happened again. I requested the claim online to American Home Shield. The tech that came out happened to be the tech that was here before. He looked at my refrigerator and looked at me. I only had one of my kids home that day. It was me and her, and my wife. He said, "You have another daughter, don't you?" After I said I do, he said, "Oh, yeah, I've been here before. I can't fix this." So he remembered me. He was a super nice guy. He called it in and told AHS that he couldn't fix it. AHS ended up giving me an offer to buy a new fridge.
I have no issue with the Sears guy. He was awesome, showed up on time, polite, friendly and everything you would want if somebody's coming to your home. The American Home Shield side of it was frustrating. I was on the phone with them for like three hours to get an offer to replace the fridge. Then, I submitted my payment form online per their instructions. There's no way to email them. You can only call in and the wait times are horrendous. But if you make a remark to them on Twitter, someone will respond to you and then you'll be able to interact with a person. So I did that. It was supposed to take 7 to 10 business days, which is what they say from an automated response that you get when you send your stuff in.
On 6/24, I sent exactly what I needed sent in per their instructions with the attached invoice. I messaged them on Twitter on the 6th of July and said, "Hey, I've sent this in." I heard back from them last Friday. It took them from the 6th to the 10th to get back to me when I was trying to check up. Then, when I finally did hear back from them, they said, "I don't see that a paid receipt has been received. Please resubmit." I forwarded my original email and they said they were getting it processed. It's 7 to 10 days to get. It's $2,500 and it's here and I paid for it.

The first one, we had an icemaker go out in a refrigerator then there's another one where my washing machine stopped spinning. The Sears technician showed up but he called and said it was not repairable. We did a cash-in-lieu replacement instead. I had to provide the receipt for the new product. Plus, I had to hire a plumber to install the water hoses, which was a bit ridiculous, to get my reimbursement. After I did that, the check came quickly and it's all done.

A few of the techs we’ve had have just been okay just by the way they communicate. But that’s why the last one, I felt, was exceptional. You can tell that some technicians are better than others. The AT Appliances tech did a very good job on our dishwasher. He was our best appliance repairman from that company that we’ve had. They were timely and responsive. The problem was fixed. Then the part came in, he came back out and just took care of it. He was good because he knew exactly what the issue was.
The dishwasher wasn’t working well and everything was still dirty. I was literally ready to get rid of the dishwasher. It needed to be replaced. We’ve had so many problems with it. But he said, “Well, it’s not so easy. I just can’t do that. I don’t make that call. But if we do this, this and this,” and then he noticed something that needed to be cleaned. He went above a bit. He noticed that something in it needed to be cleaned as well to make it more efficient. I was really happy with him.
It still was 100 bucks and it wasn’t a huge problem, so that’s always a pain as far as, “Oh, to pay $100 to have someone come out.” But it ended up not being a very expensive fix. All I know now is it’s fixed. It was two weeks total between coming out, part and replace and it still worked. It was a good experience. We’ve been happy with Home Shield.
The only thing is it’s hard when you know your appliance sucks and you just have to keep paying $100 to fix it. At some point it’s like, “Okay, now I’m up to $500 on this thing. When do we actually just replace it?” And that’s the frustrating part. But, for us, it’s nice to know we have it in case we had a really expensive item. We own a condo and the air conditioning system in there, we’ve heard from other people, is a really expensive thing to fix or to replace. We’re not anticipating it going out, but we got Home Shield because an air conditioning system is so expensive.
In our home now, our air conditioning system was newer and then we got the Home Shield. Sometimes I think why do I have it in my main residence. The condo’s the main thing. But we also have an oven that is now 20 years old and we heard they don’t even make them anymore. So if that goes out and cannot be fixed, then we would be happy we had the warranty.

The other day, I just bought a new house and Economy Lock & Key came out and changed all my locks. American Home Shield has a little online portal to use, and that was really nice. It was really easy. They picked out somebody. Then they were sent out. The people who came out were so nice. It was a lovely, married couple. They were super-fast, very professional, and they were very careful too with COVID. So, I appreciated that. They both wore masks. They both have hand sanitizer, and they stayed away from me, which was good. It was a great experience and they were wonderful. The locks are great, too.
When I bought the house, I was a little concerned because the sellers seemed kind of weird about a few things in terms of the inspection. In the contract, I requested that they buy something to help me feel a little bit better about this purchase in case something was wrong with the house, I knew that I could get it fixed. They picked American Home Shield, and I'm very happy but nothing crazy has been going on with the house. It seems like a good purchase so far. When I saw that it was a part of my contract and what company they went with, I did a very basic Google search and 99% of the time people post negative reviews before they post their positive. I was surprised that there are a lot of positive reviews. You're gonna have a few that are not good experiences, but that's with everything.

When I filed a plumbing claim one afternoon, the rep said someone would contact me within 24 hours. But I had not heard from anybody the next day late in the afternoon. I never had that problem with American Home Shield until this time. When I called Dave’s Plumbing, they didn't have the paperwork from American Home Shield. They had to call and get the paperwork. But after that, it was fine. The tech was cordial and nice. He used his shoes and his mask. He did what I felt like he should be doing. He handled it very well. He fixed the issue and everything was okay.
So far, everything has been good with American Home Shield. I was hoping that the issue could get resolved faster. But I'm really pleased with them. There were just a little bit mix-up this time. I made two claims on that day and I challenged them on one of the claims, which was for my washing machine. American Home Shield sent out Ed's to repair my washing machine. I only put the detergent in the washing machine where it was supposed to go. But it rusted out and it was getting the chips into my clothing. The lady in the beginning said that it was wear and tear. American Home Shield did not variate or tried to change anything when it came to that. They kept saying it was a cosmetic problem and it wasn't covered. But if I used the washer though, as I am instructed to, there was no damage I had done to the washing machine, so it should be covered.
I had the runaround on that particular claim because I called them in at the same time, talking to different people as I went along in the process, returning or refunding the service fee on one of them. I asked them if they couldn’t fix it, then they would turn the $80.62. But I had a hard time getting that back. I had to call the authorization department about five times and the lines were so busy. I even documented how long it took for the call to go through and it was between 25 and 45 minutes before I could get someone on the line. Then they kept repeating the same thing over again. I got to go back and listen to the recordings.
By the fourth time I called, I told the rep I was fed up with it because every time I called, everybody said that they were gonna return the $80.62. But the next time I call, it was, “I'm gonna call you back in 24 hours.” I didn't get a phone call. I had to call them and sometimes I waited two days. I called them and finally, I got somebody at fourth time. I told them that I wouldn’t go further than what I had to go with and I would just stop my services and my plans. But they took care of it. I called this morning to see why it had not been applied back to my credit card and they said that it would be in the next 24 hours.

I use this because it is a rental property and so I've had a couple of instances where I've needed the service. So far, everything has worked out great. It's doing what I wanted. Recently, my renters had a plumbing issue. Plumbers Inc. came out. There was a little additional question as far as how clean and sanitary, considering COVID conditions, but everything they did was professional. They made sure that they were clean and took care as far as not over contaminating the property. They had everything they needed when they arrived and were able to complete the project quickly. My renters were satisfied.

I called in a claim to American Home Shield and they told me to expect their contractor within 48 hours. Somebody called me from Arizona Value Appliance that same day. A day or two later, Arizona's techs came out. They had to order a part to fix my issue and then they came back. Things have been fine since then.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

Active Appliance Service came out and made the repair on the refrigerator. It is working now and it seems to be holding its coldness status. It took like three weeks for them to get the repair part in, but once they were able to come in, they were able to do the repair quickly. I'm happy. The AHS coverage is excellent. They repaired that refrigerator for three times now. I was just hoping that maybe they would consider telling me I could replace it because I feel like I keep calling them to do the repairs.
After they got the part in, then it was another 10 days before they were able to set us on the schedule. We were out of refrigerator for a month. I was hoping that at some point if this happens again, Home Shield would say that this is maybe defective and actually offer some value for that refrigerator so that I can have a replacement and not constantly be calling in repairs. I don't know when that happens. But I felt like the website and the ability to check into my mobile device, to put in a request for service, and to renew online is very convenient, and I appreciate that they do that. It's definitely something I plan on keeping that service.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

They are very good in sending somebody if something happens. We had one dishwasher problem and we got the part but it didn't fix it. Once we figured out what the problem was, we got it fixed pretty quickly, but it took a second there. But with my plumbing issue, it was fixed quickly. The plumber had the right tools. But the only thing is that AHS doesn't have anybody on their list that can fix a beverage refrigerator. Other than that, I’ve really enjoyed the warranty. I highly recommend it. These guys are on the spot. Their quality is exceptional. I like the fact that the warranty is there, and if I have a problem, I just pay the deductible, and I’m good to go. It’s peace of mind.

There was a very loud straining noise from my air conditioner. I did a claim for it online with AHS. Their website is user-friendly but it doesn't let me say what the symptoms are. It just says air conditioner and brand. It would be nice to be able to put in what the symptoms are. But I guess when customer service contacts you, you can tell them that personally. Still, I like to have a comment section where I can say the unit is making a really loud grinding noise.
My case was assigned to Custom Climate Professionals and I got a note saying I would be contacted within 24 hours, which they did. They scheduled fairly quickly. Sometimes, you wait a day or two on these things because they are busy. But another problem is on the weekend. You never seem to be able to get ahold of anybody. If you put the claim in on Friday, you don't hear from anybody until Monday. Some of these companies only work Monday through Friday. It would be nice if they had someone that could address issues on the weekend. Sometimes, you have to wait over the weekend to get someone to contact you.
That aside, the contractors were all exceptional. Everything has been functioning fine since they've been out. Custom Climate Professionals came out and worked on my air conditioning and furnace thing. They had to come out twice. The first time they came out, the guy showed me the filter was just caked on and nasty. It was probably because I hadn't switched it out since early December. That was causing the unit to strain for airflow. I kinda knew that but I had other things going on that I didn't think of it. The tech recommended that I could get a different kinda filter that increases airflow. I could also get a more powerful motor in there.
I also opted to upgrade my thermostat because I had a simple one. But this one's smart. It's programmable and it basically allows the motor to come on to circulate the air without having the air conditioning or the heat on, which I've had in my other houses. It was a nice upgrade. I bought into all their upgrades and they gave me a military discount. But not even a week and a half after that was done, the machine started making that noise again. I called back and said the noise was there again. A technician came out, added a little Freon, and did some other things. The unit has not made that noise since then.
Aside from that claim, I have a problem with another order I put in now with AHS. I had a dryer appliance repair guy come out. He ordered two parts and upgraded the dryer. He tested the dryer for about a minute. I listened to him and said it sounded great. I thanked him and he left. 10 minutes after he left, I put a load of clothes in the dryer. After three or four minutes, it started making the same noise that he came out to service. I called the tech several times, left messages, and texted. But he never responded. I called American Home Shield back and they said they would let the contractor know one more time. I was to give them a call if the tech doesn't come back out. I was actually getting ready to call today to say he hasn't come back out. He hasn't even contacted me.Charlotte: I will definitely document that down too. That was the contractor Ramey Appliance Repair.
I've had American Home Shield since I've had a house in the '90s. I have the warranty on three of my current houses right now and I don't really have a problem. They always normally provide a good service, except for the two things with the website and the one with Ramey’s. Ramey is an anomaly because the same guy has done service on other things for me. I've never had a problem with him until he just doesn't seem to wanna try and fix the dryer. He did all he could do and doesn't want to answer the phone now.

The system was still working off and on, so I called for a follow-up. The tech from All Temp Mechanical came out a day and a half later, at the end of his workday. He replaced a capacitor and another part, and he was done in about an hour and a half. It seems to be working fine now. With AHS, if something goes down, I usually get a fairly fast response. And it is also a fixed cost, except for the stuff that they had to put in which was very expensive. But, other than that, I like the coverage.

USA Plumbing came out and the tech put the tool underneath the garbage disposal and twisted it and it worked instantly. He left the tool with me and said that if I ever needed to do it again, I could just use it. But I was a little disappointed with the contractor that came out to fix my microwave. My microwave was missing the magnetic unit that would help it heat originally. So the tech came in real quick and realized that that one was wrong and said that he was gonna order the part and then he would be back in a couple weeks once the part came in.
He came back out to fix it and took the unit off the wall. Upon trying to take the unit off the wall, he realized that he couldn’t do the work because the microwave is hardwired into the wall. I kinda wished that I would’ve known that in the first house call because I would’ve hired an electrician to kinda come out and fix that before he came back with the part. But that’s not his fault. Most microwaves are not hardwired into the wall, they’re plugged to the wall. So it's a really easy fix. But I kinda feel like I forfeited that $75 to be told that they couldn’t help me, which kinda sucked. But it’s okay.

I thought I smelled some gas on the hot water heater. So, I made a claim online and American Home Shield's website was user-friendly. They gave me a time when to expect the contractor out and it was pretty quick. I also had a good experience with the techs who came out. I've read that there were some reviews that weren't so good about it, but they were fine for me. They checked out everything and patched up where there was an error. It was a matter of safety and it was taken care of. And since the service, the hot water heater has been functioning well. All in all, working with AHS provides peace of mind knowing that if something goes out, I’ll be covered.

American Home Shield's contractor did a good job. It was like a multiple call. They were supposed to come out on Friday last week. American Home Shield's at fault here. The vendor was very fine, but it was American Home Shield that screwed it up. They did this in May and they turned around and put the unit. It was supposed to be in, and then they couldn't get anybody out. Then they gave us JOSKO, and JOSKO said the guy was out sick. He was supposed to come that afternoon on Friday. He couldn't make it, so then they pushed it out to Tuesday. I had to call American Home Shield, so they had to come back and change it, and they got it for yesterday. It was supposed to be between 10:00 and 12:00, and they kept calling closer to 12:00 saying, "Well, he's still in another job." Then I got another air conditioning company who's supposedly coming out. They called. It was kind of confusing.
The contracting company, when they got here, was fine. American Home Shield was terrible. There's another home coverage company that is a lot less. Their fee is like $55 instead of $75 for a visit. I haven't investigated enough yet, but I'm starting to investigate it. I've been with American Home Shield for over 25 years and I keep dumping money in there. They fix the issues but I'm probably giving them more than what I've gotten back as far as service. Also, I know there's a virus out there, but I was on hold each time I had to call them for over an hour, and that's not very good. They need to get more people. Then I got somebody that hardly can speak English. She didn't know what to do and was going around and around. AHS used to be a great company.

I’ve just renewed, so this is my second year with American Home Shield. I looked at the competitors and I felt that they had the most to offer and they had the most flexible plan rates as well. They have three different tiers I can go with depending on how much I wanna spend. I didn’t notice that with a lot of the other providers.
Recently, All South Air Systems came out and did an excellent job. They identified the issue and they got the authorization to perform what they call a leak test. In doing so, they determined that the evaporator coil was bad. They were able to order a part and get it in within two days. As a matter of fact, I didn’t think they would get the part that fast and they did. They came back out and had it installed inside of three hours which was a big deal. It took a lot to take that apart. It was a $100 service charge for AHS and I felt it was very fair. They did not charge me the second time for the additional Freon and I thought that was great.

The last three contractors I worked with were very pleasant. I am a senior. They were very kind and courteous to me because I'm disabled. They explained what they were doing and they did their job. They were clean, and they picked up their mess, and left. I'm very happy with all three of them. One was for my dryer, one was for my dishwasher, and one was for the plumbing. Premium Plumbing & Drain was who came out for my most recent plumbing issue. I had a clogged-up sink and the gentleman unclogged it. He was very pleasant. He explained everything, what he was doing, and he finished the job and he left.

Water heater replacement denied. Rep spent 30 seconds at my house. As soon as he heard me say “noise” he said nope not covered. Noise isn’t the issue. Issue is sediment coming through my pipes and sink/ shower. Discoloration. Also water sometimes doesn’t heat up. This is a literal time bomb and causing other issues in house. I read and highlighted my contract and know this should be covered. I can’t get a hold of AHS to dispute because wait times are 2+ hours on phone and can’t email. Very dishonest.

It is nearly impossible to get a representative on the phone. The wait on hold averages an hour, from my experience. When I did get someone on the phone, they asked me all my info - address, phone, name, Shield account number, followed by a question, "What can I help you with today?" But this is an empty question because I was always told the same thing: they tried to call the appliance company (local repair store) and no one answered. They would ask me to follow up in a few days. So, again, I would wait on hold for over an hour, re-tell my info, re-tell my situation (my appliance is still broken, the repairman came out and was supposed to order a part but nothing is showing in my account). The rep would try calling the appliance company, of course no one would answer, and the process of me checking back would start all over again.
I spent so many hours of my day trying to address an issue that was never resolved. I posted to AHS' Facebook page and this rendered a reply from a representative that was more helpful. She called the appliance company and confirmed they had the part in. She called me and told me to call the appliance company and schedule an installation. I did and was on the schedule the following week. The morning I was scheduled, I received a call from the technician saying they never got the part in. This was confusing since they previously stated they had it. The AHS rep escalated the repair and marked the oven eligible for a replacement. She gave me a number to call in case I did not hear from AHS. No surprise, I never heard from AHS.
When I called the number I was given, no one every picked up. The first call I waited an hour and a half before I had to hang up to start work. I called two additional times and gave up after 30 minutes. After 6 months, I am out almost $500 dollars and a lot of time, and I still have a broken oven. This company seems like a scam because they do not fulfill their side of the contract -- one I fulfill by paying EVERY month. In addition, it is difficult to cancel the auto-renewal; I will most likely have to call my bank and place a stop payment because I do not want to renew come August, but I also can’t get anyone on the phone with AHS to cancel my renewal. I strongly caution other homeowners from using American Home Shield. I wish I had looked at their Facebook page and all the negative comments before I signed my contract. I read those comments and relate to everything being said. If I could give negative stars, I would.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I have never been more frustrated with a home repair situation. I have been waiting over a month in 90+ degree weather to get my AC replaced. The HVAC company said that covid caused a delay in getting the parts. :( When I spoke to the HVAC company today to get the total out of pocket amount, they told me that I am paying $1800 out of a total cost of $2600. WHAT IS THE POINT OF A HOME WARRANTY??? I don't understand why more is not covered if approval is given for replacing the unit!!
When I called AHS to ask why so little is being covered, I waited on hold for 45 minutes only to be cut off the minute the person took the call. After waiting another 45 minutes on hold, I finally was connected with someone. I could barely understand what they were saying and every time I asked a question, I could tell that they were referring to a script--but the scripted answers WEREN'T ANSWERING THE QUESTION!! She kept telling me that the "authorization dept" would contact me, but I find that hard to believe. I am planning on canceling with this company as soon as all of this is settled. UGH! In an extremely hot summer, our A/C failed. Their "assigned" contractors (FICK'S MECHANICAL and Prudent Mechanical) are extremely poor quality & can't solve this issue. And they refuse to change the assigned contractors. I called this company multiple times (and waited on the phone for >1 hour each time) and tried to reason with them why we don't want these two companies. I explained that they had previously sent Fick's to our place and charged us for that, only for us to pay out of pocket after Fick's failed to resolve the issue.
The first time, the agent was understanding and seemingly tried to assign a different contractor. That different contractor, however, never showed up. So we had to call again. The second time, the agent said that we have no choice and yes, the contractor is, again, must be Fick's. Yes, the exact same company that was here in March, charged us, and didn't solve the problem. I have been on the phone for ~75 minutes now again to either change this or cancel my policy. Avoid this company.

I have called the purchasing department for 3 days in a row, I am placed in a hold queue waiting for the next available associate.
First time I called I was on hold for 2 hrs. Yesterday I called I was on hold for 3 hrs. Today I called Customer Service first, after being on hold for 45 mins customer service rep assures me they would help me and told me that I would be on hold for few while they contact the purchasing department. The rep calls over to the purchase department. I am on hold, 20 mins go by I am still on hold but the hold music changes which tells me the rep has abandoned me to the purchasing line. That was around 9:30am est this morning. It is now 11am est and I am still on hold. At this point I am wondering if there is a real purchasing department for replacement appliances. Very frustrating.

If you call customer service plan on being on hold for at least an hour before you get through, honestly. I recently bought a house in which the built in refrigerator broke. AHS assigned a very poorly rated appliance repair company to come repair the refrigerator. The company has been to my house to "fix" the refrigerator 3 times in the span of 30 days, which of course is still not fixed. When I called AHS to have the repair company come back out a 4th time they told me I was outside of the 30 Day recall period and I would have to pay another $75 service charge for an appliance that was never fixed to begin with! Stay away from AHS. They use poorly rated appliance repair companies and don't actually work with you to fix the problem!

We’ve been happy with American Home Shield thus far. 2 of our neighbors needed a home warranty plan and I gave them the information for American Home Shield. We’ve only used them twice but it was good. A/C Pros handled our claim for a heating issue very well. In November, they came out and replaced a component. Then we had a regular check-up and they found out we were low on freon, and there was one other small thing diagnostically that they fixed out while they were there and did a really good job. They also did a good job of explaining what they were doing.
Thanks for letting us know how everything worked out for you and thanks for recommending us. We look forward to helping you in the future. Take Care.

Our air conditioner was not cooling properly. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out the first time and we discovered that a drain line had been cut, it had to be repaired by a contractor. They came out the second time and unfortunately, the drain pans did not get put back in straight and it wound up flooding the floor, which is the ceiling, because the unit is up in the attic. They came out the third time and got everything working properly. They were perfect as far as showing up when they were supposed to and they did the very best job that they possibly could given the situation. I would use them again.

I made a claim over the phone with American Home Shield and it took a while to get through because some of the prompts just take forever. They say it's easier to do it online but I'm a phone guy. I'd rather make sure I'm getting it done the first time just because I've done stuff online and they say, "I never got your request." I tend to wait on the phone. That's why I like to call. American Home Shield's service is really good and the price is pretty reasonable also. For the claim I made, they had Ability Access Plumbing and Rooter come out and they very good, professional, and nice. They got the job done and were quick.

The guy from J & A Appliance Repair did great. He came and checked the appliance out. He needed to order the part, but the service was good and productive. He handled it and the unit has been working great since he came out. He explained the motor to the fan at the bottom of the freezer was going out and how it sucked up the cool air. So, the freezer was working, but the refrigerator was not. American Home Shield has been great. I've had them for 23 years, and all my experiences with the service people have been good. When I had an issue with it, American Home Shield resolved the issue and we were able to take care of it without that server. Also, about 15 years ago, my central unit went out, and that was $8,000. Out of my pocket was like 1,000 bucks. What I pay them a month is like one dinner a month at Chili’s, so it is nothing. You got to have AHS.

NW Sundance Services came out and diagnosed the problem and then they needed to order a part. This was almost a month ago and just now, the part has arrived. They need to come back and they’re gonna install these parts. The first time, the plumber that came out diagnosed it and said, “Okay, I’m gonna order two of these parts. Once they arrive, let us know and we’ll schedule an appointment to come back.” It took almost two weeks for the part to arrive. It was supposed to be two parts, not one. I called the company and I said, “Look, only one came.” They said, "Let’s go ahead and schedule the appointment and have them come out.” I said, “No, I’m not gonna have him come twice to my home when he’s gotta install two different parts, and the second part has not arrived.” They said, “Oh, let us look into why that didn’t arrive. It should be there because he ordered it.”
Something fell through the cracks because a week went by after that and I called back and they said, “Oh, yeah. The part should still be coming.” I waited another week and it still hadn’t arrived. So finally I said, “I don’t think you guys ordered the second part.” The lady said, “Oh, I need to speak to my supervisor.” When she spoke to her supervisor, they claimed that there was a holdup somewhere with the part. That was an outright lie. I looked at the packing slip, and the date that’s on the packing slip was the date that they ordered it. So, they didn’t order it. It shouldn’t take this long to get the parts ordered, to get it, and have it repaired. This whole time my water pipes have been leaking. I’ve been able to turn them off. At first, you can’t. They just leak and then eventually it stops. But that’s the problem. There’s like a broken cartridge on the inside that needs to get replaced.
I can’t imagine if this entire time, it’s been more than a month now, my water bill would be going through the roof because we have a constant leak. I don’t think I’ve ever had this type of experience before with American Home Shield. Usually they’re pretty good about who they send out and they do the job and it’s pretty efficient. I didn’t call American Home Shield. I had just been calling that plumbing company because sometimes it’s hard to get a hold of people at American Home Shield, and it’s like waiting on hold for an hour. I was about ready to call and complain, but the part did arrive a few days ago and they scheduled the appointment for someone to come out this Thursday. So it’s gonna get taken care of, it’s just taking way too long.
The plumber is really good. It’s the fault of whoever’s running the show and ordering parts and making the follow up. The back-end office people aren’t really on top of it. They could’ve looked further into it and did it from the beginning than just kinda let it go. I didn’t receive any updates. I would call and then they said, “Oh, we’ll call you back to give you an update.” Days would go by and I would not receive a phone call and I have to call back.

I could hear the pool pump in my bedroom and all of a sudden, I heard it make a weird sound. I went out and didn't know what it was so I shut the pump off and turned it back on. It would be fine for a while and then I'd hear it again. But the second time I heard it, I went over and I noticed my suction had gone down like half. So, it was wasn't just a sound. It was affecting the suction of the pump and it wasn't circulating my water, which I knew would not be good for the pool. It would turn green and then I’d be buying all-new chemicals.
I called American Home Shield to put in a claim and the guy from Allen's Pool Service called me within 24 hours. I told him what I thought the issue was and he said that he'd be out the next day, and he was. He looked at the pool pump and he knew immediately what it was, and fixed the problem. The pump was probably 10 years old and some other stuff had gotten in there and put it out of balance. Then, it would just get lodged that caused it to do what it was doing and not spin and do suction. He cleaned it out, replaced the parts that needed replacing, and put it back on. And the pump has been running great ever since.
My house is 14 years old and AHS gives me peace of mind that repairs are not gonna be a big-ticket. If something goes wacko, I know that it's only gonna be $100 with American Home Shield. There's always a pump with the pool and replacing it is a couple of hundred dollars. The air conditioners are 13 years old and those aren't gonna last forever. I also have water heaters and things like that that are right around the time that they're gonna let go.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I had a leak under my kitchen sink. It was my garbage disposal. Blue Star Plumbing came out pretty quickly within two days, and they replaced it since the other one was shot. So, that was good. But I’ve had difficulties with getting pool repairs through American Home Shield. If I put on a claim, even if I’m home, they’ll come out and they'll say, “Oh, just leave the gate open.” They’ll come and they’ll check it out. If I say there’s a leak or there’s an issue and if they don’t see it, then they’ll just put no issue or no leak when there is obviously a huge discrepancy if I’m notating a leak or notating that something is not working and then they say, “It works just fine.” So, that’s the big difference.
They don’t even give the courtesy of calling or knocking on my door before they leave. They just make a note saying it works fine and then they’re on their way to the next appointment. So, I have had a lot of difficulties with the pool stuff. And then I tried to call American Home Shield and they’ve never called me back, so I don’t know if I would sign up with them again.

The serviceman showed up as scheduled, did a walkthrough diagnostic, but didn't make any repair whatsoever. I told him that he ought to be able to order parts since they gave him a work order. He said that he had to get approval from his office so he left. I attempted to call Home Shield. I talked to one of the ladies there and she said she’ll call and get it straightened out.
A period of time went by, and they called back and said that they got approval to get the parts, but they need to get approval to install a gas craft line and a safety valve vent line to a total of somewhere in the area of $350 out of my pocket. I told them we’re not doing that. I’m a pipefitter, plumber by trade, so I can do that. He said he can’t put it back in unless he installs this material. I told him then that we’re not gonna do it.
I installed two ¾-inch nipples and about a 48-inch block of PVC pipe for a vent on safety valve and this took me a sum total of about $12 in probably 30 minutes. I contacted Home Shield and told them not to send Island Mann Plumbing & Drain Cleaning back out and that I replaced the water heater myself. I went and bought a brand-new water heater for 500 versus paying them $350. Then Home Shield sent another service company over, something electric, and this repairman repaired it on site without ever going back home. He showed and told me what he’d done and it was a reset on this electronic ignition.

They told me the best they could do and then they ended up being able to send somebody sooner so I was really appreciative. The guy was very fast and efficient, and everything has been fabulous since then. Without that repair, my air conditioning would be leaking into my bathroom, which would really suck. The water was running down and the air conditioning would be leaking into my toilet. It does have tile around it but who wants leaking in their bathroom? You would want the water to stay where it belongs.

I like that AHS does what they say they're gonna do. They've helped me when I’ve had flooding in the house, my stove caught on fire, and my refrigerator went out. With them, I can also get my annual checkup to my HVAC done and they give you a reminder. The contractors that they've sent out have been good, too. But I had one that said they were busy and couldn't get to me for the water flooding my basement. It was on Monday and I told him that that was a no-go. AHS said that that was not within their policy, so they were going to get me someone else. They also said that the new contractor would be out in two days.
Aside from that, if someone's on my list, they call me, follow up with me, and they've got my cell number. So the communication with whoever's coming out is open and continuous. Plus, if it’s someone that I really liked and they understood my system, I always can request them. And if they don’t have them available, then that's different. But if they're available, whoever I want to have come back out can come back out.
When my friends would say that their air conditioner was out, I'd tell them to better hurry and get American Home Shield to cover their house. The cool part about AHS is you can go in and decide what things you want them to cover. So if you don't have a particular thing and they’re not gonna cover it, then don't worry about putting it on your list. But for the things that you have in your house that you want to have covered, when someone comes out, you know it’s gonna be $100. You don’t have the pressure to think it’s gonna be 5 or $600. They’d come out, do what they say they’re gonna do, and they go away. You don’t have to pay for parts or anything and $100 covers everything.

He also told me that he had to have a new pan as the pan has gone bad. I had them take a picture of it and it was so rusted and awful. That would have to be done at another appointment as it would take two people to do that. They did a great job and they were very thorough. I'm very pleased with Red Desert. If I have other things, I'll definitely call them.
The last time I had American Home Shield's contractors come out, I called them for an issue in my daughter's shower. When their tech from Spring Hurst Plumbing came out, he said there was no leak. He also said he needed "white water something". The rep from there promised me that she would call me back. However, no one ever got back to me. I usually have Crystal Clear Plumbing and they do an awesome job. I called their plumber to ask them about the white water thing which I've never heard of and she knew right off the bat. Phone calls taken by AHS reps have to be recorded so AHS can look back on them. They need to train their people to make sure they call back. The last person I talked to from AHS was good. She looked back at all the stuff which no one else did.

Bestway was good. They took care of the problem quickly and walked me through what the issue was. Some of the screws on my garbage disposal had come loose. They tightened those. Something else was incorrect, and the tech showed it to me and showed me what he did to fix it. He did not have a mask on though. I haven't had to use American Home Shield that much, but it's good to have it in case I have minor plumbing issues. I can reach out to someone. For my area, I see a lot of bad reviews, and that hasn't been my experience. It can deter a lot of people and the reviews are related to AC repairs. I'm in the south, so when your AC break, you want someone to fix it immediately and sometimes life doesn't work like that. I was telling my neighbor about it and he was like, "Well, I saw the reviews and I'm just scared that I'll get a bad apple." I was like, "Well, they've come out a couple of times to my house and they fixed the issue with no problem."
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I wasn’t satisfied with the minimum amount of coverage I had with another company, which was why I got more coverage. My real estate agent recommended AHS and gave me a folder attached to her real estate company with the telephone number for AHS. I had a blockage in my drain from the washing machine. The contractor snaked it, then he recommended a product for me to use so it wouldn’t clog up. One of my kitchen drains is upstairs and it’s the same pipe that runs down to the washing machine. He said that I have to regularly put something in there as a cleanser to get rid of grease.
I called in and AHS sent me the telephone number of the plumbing company. Within 24 hours, if I didn't call, the company would call me to make the appointment. The co-pay was a little higher than the $60 I paid another company several years ago. I’m also not aware of any cap on how much money they will pay out for you during the year. I've called AHS about five times and only had one call where they couldn’t do anything. The garage door still doesn’t work right. The guy said I needed a special outlet in the garage. I’ve been satisfied with AHS.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I’ve had American Home Shield for five years and I like that I don't have to try to research a contractor. I could just reach out to AHS to handle that part for me. But I don’t like the contractors they’ve sent out. When it comes to my appliances such as my washer and dryer, which I seem to have issues with, I prefer the company that is related to my appliance. If I have a GE dryer, I want General Electric to come out because if they send anyone else out, they would say that they fixed it and it seems fixed, but then a few days later, they might have to come back out again because it really wasn't fixed. I don't know who handles my central air but when Union Express came out, they were fine. The technician didn’t even have to come to my home. He just did what he had to do outside.

When we bought our very first home in 2010, it came with a six-month warranty and we had to use it. It was new construction so some of the stuff was under builder’s warranty, but because it had been a model home, it wasn’t technically under full warranty, so we had an American Home Shield warranty on it and we decided to extend it because it had been good for us so far. Then any homes that we purchased since then, we just made sure that we just kept coming back. I really like AHS and we won’t ever own a home without having a warranty like this.
Recently, the coil at the back of the air conditioner was freezing over, and so the air conditioner would shut off and wouldn’t blow cold air. I submitted a claim on the mobile website of AHS and I like the website a lot. The guy that came out was absolutely amazing. He was so good and was very young. We were joking when he walked in that he can’t be out of high school, but he obviously knew his job. He was very thorough in explaining exactly what was gonna happen, exactly what was covered by this service call, exactly what would happen next, and what would be covered by the next call if we needed to make one. He was very knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. He was a really good kid. The temperature was starting to rise so we were much happier after everything was finished.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that is knowledgeable and able to explain what is going on. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

Made a service request to get my dishwasher repaired. I was assigned a contractor who never reached out to me so I called them to make an appointment but had to leave a message. Never received a call back. I had my son in law look at it and he made the repair. Tried to cancel service order online but couldn't find anything to do it so I called AHS and waited on hold for 56 minutes. When a service rep finally answered she asked the problem. After explaining the problem she said she couldn't hear me and hung up. Try to call back but was put on hold. They said there was an hour wait. That tells me an hour and a half from my previous call wait time. Also they already took my payment.
I don't know what to do when they can easily do something on their website through my account to make it easy to cancel service or email access to correspond with them. I've been on this for nearly three hours and still haven't resolved it. I guess I'll have to dispute the charge through my credit card company if they maintain the charge.

My wife and I signed up for American Home Shield because we had heard great things about them but we have never had a good experience with them. Our fridge has been out for almost a month now and they sent a tech 2 weeks ago and we were told by him that our compressor had quit working. They said they were going to send another tech a week later but never set up the appointment and we have been trying for a week to contact them with no luck. Don't waste your money signing up with them. Even the first company that came to work on the fridge sat on hold for over 3 hours with no one answering the call. American Home Shield is happy to take your money and never solving the problem.

I am a current owner of an American Home Shield (AHS) home warranty plan. I rely on the warranty for my rental property. It's fairly "easy" to request service online, but all it allows you to do is just that - request the service then pay. You do not get the option of reviewing selected contractors. I requested a service, paid, and a contractor was assigned. The contractor "flaked" and never returned calls, made the visit to the home, nor completed any service. On the website, it shows I do not have any service calls active - how can it NOT be active if it was not completed? No one from AHS contacted me or followed up with me, yet they closed the service request. I have no way of updating the request without having to call the company. Calling the company is a guaranteed 30 minute wait at least. Three weeks of trying to work with the contractor, only to come up empty and having to call the company to try and rectify the situation.
Insurance companies, warranty companies, etc. need to do a better job at selecting businesses they work with - after all, the contractor is a reflection of the warranty company because my trust is in them to do the job of finding a reputable contractor capable of fulfilling the service request. Result was the contractor canceled doing the service, I was not notified by the contractor nor AHS, and my service fee was not returned. In AHS's goodwill, another contractor was assigned, I do not have to repay the service fee, and I got "I'm sorry this happened and you were not contacted." The online system is not set up for the best customer service and calling the company is a patience game.

Updated on 07/07/2020: AHS warranty doesn't work for If it is rental property. They waste your time with multiple technicians and they drag for several months and finally they tell you It won't cover but tenant cannot wait. After 50 days, here is the reply. What does it mean? It is kind of cheating the customers. AHS reply after 50 days "Per the technician, there is not a mechanical failure. The system is old and has lost efficiency. We would not cover if there is not an actual breakdown." Please note it is peak summer. they dragged the issue for 50 days. I Hope no one will sign up for AHS after reading this review.
Original Review: It is the worst company. The AC stopped working some time in April for my rental property. I have contacted AHS and AHS sent United Air Temp technician to fix the issue. Technician mentioned that there was some wire issue and he said it got fixed. After the technician left my tenant called me and mentioned AC issue is not fixed. I called AHS again they sent same company technician again and this time technician added 2 LB Freon liquid and he charged me $280, the issue was not fixed after adding the Freon liquid.
I called AHS again, this time they sent a Cool Factory technician. The Cool Factory person mentioned he cannot do anything and replacement is only the option. Issue started 45 days ago and It is almost 2 weeks since Cool Factory technician visited. And I am calling every day both Cool Factory and AHS and their answer is report is pending at AHS authorization department and I will get a call back from the authorization department. And I am calling AHS for last two weeks. So every time I call AHS I need to stay on the call for 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs. It is too hot and my tenant is not able to live in the house but AHS doesn't care. I Hope no one will sign up for AHS after reading this review.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I have their service for more than a year and I have not used it. I have a pool and my pool had an issue with the circuit board that said that my cell power is not working. I called and they ask me what was the issue, I told them what I was seeing. They told me they will open a case and ask me to pay 100$, which I paid. After 6 days I got a call from the tech. She asked me what part of the pool was not working, I sent her picture. She came back and told me that this is not covered and I should get my money back since she did not have to come to my house. I called the company and asked for my money back and I did not receive the money back. This was the bad experience I have received besides sitting for on-call to get to talk with a person. There call times are more than an hour.

THE ABSOLUTE WORST HOME WARRANTY COMPANY TO CHOOSE! I’ve been requesting repair service on my washer for over 8 months with more than 5/6 service providers that has visited my home, not one of them accurately diagnosed my washer! Still being given the run about about getting some to fix or replace after being told 3-4 times it will be replaced after “1 more person inspects it!" All of the money time and energy I’ve put into waiting on them to contact me which they never do you always have to call back, I could have purchased a new washer and dryer at my own expense... ULTIMATELY THAT WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO DO ... TAKE YOUR MONEY FOR THE SERVICE FEE BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE APPLIANCE! I’ve spoken with over 10 diff agents and managers and they all lied everyone had a diff answer for me as to why this or that ... the infamous saying “Let’s just try 1 more sp and I promise I will take care of you.”

I placed an online service request (for my broken dishwasher) in February. It costs $100 on top of your monthly warranty fee to request service, and this must be paid in advance. I had 2 problems with my dishwasher (not draining and broken top cover plate), but their online system only allows for 1 problem to be reported. I reported the drainage issue as that prevented the dishwasher from operating. When the tech arrived, I pointed out the 2nd problem. He ordered parts for both problems. He returned within 2 weeks to repair the drain problem and said the cover plate was on backorder. He used clear duct tape to tape the top cover in place as a temporary fix.
Then COVID19 hit. I received an email from AHS indicating my service request was complete. Of course, it was not because there was still a part on order. I called AHS, and after the normal 30+ minutes on hold, I was connected to someone who indicated that even though my account online showed they marked the repair "complete/closed", she could see that it was not and that I would be contacted when the part was in.
Fast forward to May, and our local area in Colorado opening up a bit. I called AHS to check on the part/service order. Could not get through to them. Logged about 2 hours on hold. Called the Contractor who claimed they did not have an open repair and "would never leave a repair open for that long". Finally got ahold of someone at AHS, who indicated they would follow up with the contractor and get back to me. That was 2 weeks ago. I've heard nothing.
Keep in mind they take your money monthly, and there is absolutely no way for me to remove my credit card from my online. Additionally, they have no way to contact AHS other than via a phone call, and it is normal to have a wait time of 30-60 minutes before connecting to someone. The last person I spoke with indicated I could use the online chat in the future. There is NO online chat on their website. So, they take my money. Make it virtually impossible for me to cancel. Virtually impossible to get service complete. And, virtually impossible to speak with someone and get assistance on these core and important issues.
So, putting all of that together indicates fraudulent business practices. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, and AHS has yet to reach out to me to resolve. I discourage any single person - real estate agent or consumer - from supporting this business in any way. You have been forewarned. I sincerely doubt the integrity of any positive review for this company.

Overall terrible experience. After multiple failed repair attempts, one of which took me over 16 hours of time spent on the phone just to get AHS and their chosen subcontractor to actually respond to my request, my warranty cost me far more in time than it saved me. Not worth the money or frustration. If you research this company for a second, you will see that the experiences noted in this review are not unique, It seems to me that they are either: 1) Intentionally treating customers poorly for their financial benefit, or 2) so incompetent at basic things that they do not deserve any customers. If you don't believe me, call them to ask about a new warranty and you will get right through. Call them to ask about your existing warranty and you will likely have a 1hr hold time like I did this morning.
The fact that ConsumerAffairs shows AHS as an "Authorized Partner" shows that Consumer Affairs is not a consumer focused organization but rather another unethical business that collects money from other unethical business to post "customer reviews" and provide a false sense of assurance. What exactly is the "Accreditation" process Consumer Affairs? Seems like it goes no further than making sure the checks cleared. Because if Consumer Affairs checked in with the CONSUMERS who have made the mistake of dong business with American Home Shield, they could not, in good conscience, accredit AHS. But since this review calls out the payola system that Consumer Affairs has with their "Partners", it is doubtful this review will be published. If you are thinking about getting a warranty from AHS, do not. You would be better off to simply save the money you would spend on a premium and set it aside for future repairs.

R plus was our vendor, he was not able to fix our refrigerator & dishwasher after he came to our house 6 times, he comes & kept saying they delivered wrong parts. Now Rplus won’t answer me back. American Home Shield promise me they will contact RPlus or give me different vendor who can fix our appliances, I talked to 2 customer service men both by the name of Jay who won’t give their last name. They never returned my call & up to now I’m waiting for American Home Shield to fix it. It has been more than six months & nothing has been done I called every day & the waiting time is always too long. I don’t have the time to be waiting for nothing. I’m about to complain to the highest level possible if I don’t get an answer this week.

We had a great experience with AHS when we lived in an urban areas. Then we moved to a very rural area and have had very poor response to our requests. The first was on a cold snowy night when our furnace stopped working; they NEVER got back to us. We called the next day and they kept insisting that we lived in urban California not rural Colorado. Then, we had a plumbing issue, pipe broke....same response. Both times, we paid the only service company in the area to come out. We were reimbursed for one after a couple of months of calling them.
This last occurrence was for our central air that went out during a spell of 100 days. SAME RESPONSE.... NONE. I called them everyday, at one point I was told they'd call me back in an hr, nope, didn't happen. I gave them the name of a contractor who agreed to do the work and wait on AHS for the payment...they called but he didn't answer (he was working) so they hung up with no voicemail and gave me three businesses that do not exist here. It takes 30-60 min every time I call and of course, while I was on hold, was disconnected after almost an HR to talk to someone, then waiting on them to call the contractor. If it's easy, they'll help you, otherwise, if you live in a rural area, I wouldn't pay them. We're going to make a deal with our local contractor and dump AHS. I had been recommending them for years; no more. I'm telling EVERYONE to avoid them.
Thanks for being a loyal customer and for sharing your experience with us. We are working to improve our process and we apologize for any issues you experienced along the way. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

I requested service on 5/15/20 to have my A/C unit repaired. A technician was sent out on 5/18/20 and stated that the unit needs to be replaced and he would be sending a work order to American Home Shield (AHS) and someone will be in touch with me. Four days later I called AHS. The call associate there said they will be replacing the Compressor coil and they are waiting on the ordered parts to arrive. Another four days go by and still NO WORD, so I called again on 5/28/20. At this point there was an issue between the contractor and AHS about my Central air unit not being covered under my warranty.
I feel they’re giving me the run around and the call representatives only make matters worse because they was confused as to what was covered/not covered in my contract as well. I had to constantly keep explaining what has already been addressed and resolved from the previous call. I had two people tell me that the repairs are not covered, after the first representative determined that everything is covered, I had to explain to the second representative that the repairs are in fact covered. It’s now 6/30/20 and I am exhausted from calling since 5/28/20 every two to three days to get an update because no one from AHS has called, emailed or text a status update. The only call I got from them was a request to participate in Representative survey.
I was just told on 6/29/20 that I would need to pay $1200.60 out of pocket for the cost of the refrigerant since they will only cover $10 per pound for a total of 12 pounds. My contract states under (section E. 1) “AHS will pay $10 per pound for refrigerant and customer is responsible for any costs in excess of $10 per pound.” Now What’s puzzling is when I ask the associate Josh that was helping me today, “exactly how many pounds are needed?" He couldn’t answer instead proceed to tell me that they’re covering 12 pounds x $10 = $120. He also couldn’t explain how did my bill total to $1200.
I’m frustrated of how long it took to get the results, the countless calls I had to make to American Home Shield and to the contractor's company just to get answers and no real explanation as to how did they factor my out of pocket cost to be $1200. I could possibly buy a new unit for that price. It just doesn’t make sense to me when the contractor stated at my home that the whole A/C unit needs to be replaced. Now AHS wants to patch it and charge me $1200 for some supposedly refrigerant. Seems to me like AHS and the contractor are now working together but against me.
According to Manage my account, AHS closed my service for request on 6/03/20 which means it’s no longer active as if they fixed the broken unit; This is before they even had a chance to discuss with me this new situation about the Refrigerant that I just found out about on 6/29/20 or what options I have to resolve this issue. I don’t think they realize that it’s summer where I live 90-100 degree weather or maybe they don’t care, but either way this is not how you conduct business.
We do apologize for the inconvenience and your work was not properly done. It is not our intent to cause your experience difficult. We do appreciate you for sharing your experience. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.
