A Water Solution was very good and the guy found the leak right away. He was very polite and he did the safety measures. I felt bad when I had to call back because I was asking how this could be a problem again and he was very polite. Each time, he showed and explained to me what he was doing and why. Now that it's fixed, it's so much better. It was a worry before because I'm a single mom and half the time, I don't know this stuff as good as I should. I submit claims with. American Home Shield online and their website is good. But they should update all information on there for each case as it comes along. When my refrigerator went bad, it was such a long time to get information. I had to get a new refrigerator and I just ended up spending a lot of time on hold.

I put in a repair request online to American Home Shield. The website was great. It was very user-friendly. They send me a text letting me know about the three-hour window when someone would come in. The person from Aire Serv came over here in about an hour and did his work, and everything is working fine now. He was a really nice person. He came over and introduced himself. Prior to that, I received a text with his picture and his information. So, when he came over to introduce himself, he said he was here to work on the air conditioner. He went out there, look around, and asked a few questions. He is a very good personnel.
I had no issue with this claim about the air conditioner. Now, I had to complain about the stove going off. It was a little bit disappointing because AHS gave me a window when the guy was gonna come in. It was like from 12:00 to 3:00, and he didn't show up until almost 7 o'clock. The guy was from Sears I took off from work to be at home so I could be here.
I understand if you go to other places and they get tied up with other things. But what really bothered me was that nobody called to let me know. I had to call Sears to ask them, "Hey, what's going on with the claim?" The lady on the phone told me, "I'm sorry, yeah." I asked, "Is he coming or not?" "Oh, yeah. He's on his way." An hour later, that was when he showed up. So, the lady that I called lied too because it doesn't take an hour from where the guy was to my house. I don't know if it was a misunderstanding. I don't have no issues with people running late, but you call somebody and let somebody know. I could've went to work the whole day and came back home, and I would still have time to be here by the time that he would come in.
With AHS, I had no problem. The two times that I had a claim, I got them done. I put the claim in and within minutes, they already had somebody notify me of somebody coming to my house. So, they were pretty fast. In the first call with the air conditioning, it was great. But the second one with the stove, the first time the people came over to check it out, it was a total disaster. They had to come back because they had to order a part for my stove. But before they came back, they called me and told me, "Hey, I'm on my way. I'll be there soon." He came over, put the part, and there were no problems.

We had a leak in the faucet in the shower in master bath. The gentleman that came out was named Pavel and he did an excellent job. He explained everything and Susan watched what he was doing. He had to take everything apart and replace the cartridge. We were very pleased. It’s real easy to put in a claim with AHS on their website and then they’ll send a message that they received it and then that somebody will be calling. We’ve used the warranty a few times. We had an electrical issue several months ago and the young man that came out was a really nice person. We've had all good experiences.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I sent a claim with Home Shield online and a tech was scheduled within an hour. I like quick responses and they have professional individuals. James Brittingham Appliance came for a dishwasher repair. It went very good. The tech was able to repair it the same day. He was a great, nice individual.

I had a leak underneath my kitchen sink and I wasn’t sure where it was coming from. The technician that came out was very efficient and professional. He did a great job. He was very quick to diagnose it and make the adjustments. He fixed what needed to be fixed. American Home Shield has been pretty quick to respond with getting my request for service dispatched out to one of their providers. There are different home warranty companies out there and I was with a different home warranty company before but everyone was raving about American Home Shield. So I switched and I've been pretty pleased.

We had a claim for our large top burner on an electric stove. The element in the oven had worn out and the big burner wasn't coming on. The guy from Kingdom Repair checked it and then he did something. When I went to use it, it got too hot. It burned up the pot before I could even turn around and I was in the kitchen. He came back and put in a switch. Everything is fine with it now.
I've had American Home Shield for quite a few years now and the one thing I like is that they call me back when I call them. They give me the information I need in case I need to contact the service person. Then the service person calls and makes appointments and they're here when they say they're gonna be here. I know there are others, but I think I'm gonna stay with American Home Shield. I've had friends call and said, "Oh, you don't need that." They don't have any. Well, I do and so far, I've been very well pleased.

A friend of mine who had some stuff go in their house tried American Home Shield just because they didn't see what the harm was and it was an affordable price. So, he figured better safe than sorry. One day, his air conditioning unit went down and it started a whole domino effect of other systems that went down in his house. So, he placed the call and next thing you know, a day and a half later, several different vehicles pulled up with different work people, and they got to work. They fixed them up in no time. His deductible from all the different services was only $500 but the work came out to several thousands. That paid for itself for all the time he has been on it. So, I tried AHS.
I had AHS going out of sight, out of mind. When I look at my bank account to withdraw, it's so nominal that you don't notice it. When my water heater gave out due to an electrical outlet, I had a domino effect myself here. I went into the basement to put something in my deep freezer and I smelled the odor. So, I opened my deep freezer and the power was out. The deep freezer was defrosted and all the meat was spoiling in there. I checked my circuit breakers and every time I tried to flip it, it would flip back. Nothing I would do would correct the issue.
I started searching the basement and my water heater was out as well. I couldn't figure it out and I was not gonna stay here and rack my brain and maybe get shocked. So, I did my claims on the app. A day later, I received the confirmation through a phone call and about another half a day later, I got two work people coming in and fixing my stuff. The tech came and repaired my outlet, which I could have done myself, but I didn't know. It's better safe than sorry. When the contractor came, they changed out my water heater. I only had to pay a separate fee. My pipes were not up to code and that was not covered by the insurance. Altogether, I spent maybe $430, but I've probably got about two grand in work. So, I’m keeping AHS.
My TV went out and I thought this was the same program for everything but when I checked my insurance policy, it was just for the home items. The TV was a whole different company plan which I don't subscribe to. But I appreciate the service through AHS as well as the quick responses and the personnel that come out. Both gentlemen were very professional. They came with masks and gloves and called ahead of time. They also texted ahead of time with pictures of who they are. You would not be scared of these guys because they would tell you upfront when they were coming and what they were gonna do. Then, they would tell you step-by-step everything what was going on. This way, you could feel comfortable.
The guys were great. They came in and did their job. The guy was apologizing while telling me he had to stick me with another $200. But he said that he was gonna try go into the company first to see if they could charge some insurance. Unfortunately, it wasn't covered but at least, he made the effort. Those were for electrical and plumbing so, I can imagine that the rest of these type of services that are in the policy will be just as good. I don't know how AHS is screening their contractors but way to go. I back this company 100%. American Home Shield did their thing as promised. I thought it had many hidden agendas or hidden fees. So, I was expecting to be hit with all kind of stuff. But they were truly face value and as stated. So, I appreciate it.

At 2 o'clock in the morning, my blower on the air conditioner went out. It was about 90 degrees, so I immediately contacted AHS. Within six hours, Three Brothers contacted me and said they'd be out that day. They came out and fixed the unit immediately, so I'm more than pleased with the quality of work and all. I wouldn't have stayed with AHS if I hadn't thought that they were an outstanding organization. I've had several claims, and I have not had a problem with them at all. They've been upfront, including telling me what it would cost, and everything else then is taken over by AHS. Within a day or two, I've had my problems resolved. This past time, I paid a flat $75 for somebody to respond, and everything else was covered by AHS.

The air conditioner was completely falling apart. It was rusted and fell all the way down. Kingwood Air Solutions, the first company that came out, took pictures and said that they were gonna have to come back and overhaul the motor and do this, this and that. The technician told me that American Home Shield was only gonna pay for 10 pounds of Freon then I’ll be expected to pay the balance, which was fine with me. Then, I told them to ask AHS if they would give me another air conditioner and I can pay for whatever needs to be done. He said that AHS was not gonna do it. I asked how he knew and he said that he just knew. I said that he wouldn’t know unless he asked. He told me to call AHS and find out what they’re going to do and to let him know. A whole week later, nothing.
I finally called, talked to the receptionist and she claimed that he had replaced some kind of screws. I said that this man didn’t do any work while he was here and she said that he did. I said that whatever he did, neither air conditioner is working. I called her back again and told her again that the man has never called me back and let me know what’s going on and what he did to the air conditioner. She said he charged for the fix but I said that he never fixed anything. He was charging American Home Shield for something he did not work on. So I said that if they send me an evaluation, I’m gonna give them a bad evaluation. She didn’t send me one which was when we decided to try to find somebody else in the area.
The first experience was horrible but Air Majesty was terrific and I’d recommend them highly. Jim, the guy who came out, was outstanding and professional. Everything was done in a timely manner and it was a wonderful experience. He was a godsend and I'm overwhelmingly satisfied with his work. He found the problem and fixed it. It turned out to be something that the first guy came and unplugged to turn stuff off to see what’s wrong with it. He unplugged something that caused me not to have any air condition at the top or bottom floor.
We went out at 11:30 at night to Walgreens one night and CVS another night to buy fans. Everybody had to get in one room with these two fans and it still was hot and the other company did not care at all. Jim put a lot of care and emotion into what he does and he had a lot of other clients. He said that he was not gonna be able to be here at 12:00 but he asked if he could come in 1:00. He communicated, which is what you do to let us know because we're just sitting around and waiting on you to show up.
I just bought this house on the 24th of February, so I’m new and now, everything wants to break down. I gotta go and I’m gonna have to replace my commode. I’m gonna do that on my own. Plus, I’ve got to replace a faucet that’s loose. It’s just ridiculous. I had to pay an inspector to go out and inspect everything and now things are just falling apart. If something is gonna cost $60, it’s not worth it to call AHS because I still have to pay a $75 fee, so it’s more feasible that I would go ahead and just take care of it on my own. Still, I appreciate being a member of American Home Shield.
Thanks for letting us know how everything worked out for you and thanks for recommending us. We look forward to helping you in the future. Take Care.

The very first claim I submitted to American Home Shield was for a garbage disposal that was plugged up. I didn't care for the three-day wait. It was terrible. By the time they came to fix that garbage disposal, the house was smelling something fierce. AHS doesn't have any emergency protocol, which is one thing I don't care about. It was okay as far as using the automated machine to make the appointment but I would have liked to have spoken to a customer service. The technician came out twice, and he was very good, efficient and polite.

While I initially had a hard time doing a claim through American Home Shield as I just opened up my account, my rep was able to put in a claim for me immediately when I called her. From there, I was able to schedule when their tech from Dan's Pro-Lock would come by. The tech was on time, professional and informative. I had other questions about smart locks and he was able to answer them or give me his opinion. He was able to do a rekey for me and did a safety walkthrough about how we could improve our locks on a couple of different doors. It was a good experience.

I've been with American Home Shield for a few years now. Submitting claims has been super easy and I love their online interface. So far, some of their contractors have been just okay. When we moved in, we discovered a leak in our master bedroom. The plumber who was sent said it was not a covered item. However, he only told us that after he sawed a hole through our drywall. He already had access to the issue but then he wanted additional access. Fortunately, AHS sent out someone to fix our drywall.
Another time, a tech came and he felt like a slimy salesperson. He recharged our air conditioner with Freon but then tried to sell us a $12,000 air conditioner set. He also told me that while he could recharge my unit with Freon, it's just gonna leak out again. We opted for the recharge and the air conditioner has been fine since. So, that was kinda aggravating. Most recently though, Complete Garage Door Services came out for our claim and I was super happy with their service. They got everything done on the first visit.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

All of the furnaces weren't lighting at all. So we had the appliance company, 3 Boys, come out and they did a great job. They were very professional. They took the stove apart and looked at it. Then they determined that it was an electrical problem. They submitted it back to American Home Shield and then AHS sent an electrical company out by the name of All Safe. They tested one of the outlets near the stove and the electrician said that the neutral on the power outlet was loose so he ended up tightening it and it solved the problem. So, 3 Boys didn't have to come back out. Everything is back to normal and I can now light my stove. I've been with Home Shield for a couple of months and I'm satisfied with what has been able to be covered so far. It also has been easy and convenient.

I would definitely recommend American Home Shield and so far everything's been easy. I got to talk to live person over the phone when I made a claim for our pool and they were nice. Splash Pool then came out super fast (within a day or two) to see if we had holes in our DE filters and I love them. On our closing, we had this voucher that we had to pick for a pool company and we picked Baker's Pools, but I never want to work with them ever. As soon as they're done with the money that we have over there, we will be using Splash Pool for anything else we need for our pool. They were really knowledgeable and they helped us with some things too. The repair made my life easier.

It's extremely easy to request a service for whatever issue and they get back to you on time about what contractor they went through. They give you the information about the company that they're sending for the issue, and then they'll reach out to you. This is the third time that I've had to request service (twice for the AC and then once for my refrigerator) and American Home Shield is good overall. I would definitely recommend Airmax too. My experience with them was good. Rod, the technician who came out recently, was super friendly, professional and helpful. He explained everything to me, and he showed me what the issue was. He also provided useful information about how to keep the AC clean. I didn't know that you can put water around it.

I bought the house 22 years ago and everything is going wrong now. It seems like everything is breaking and it looks like I'm having to replace my appliances one by one. The dishwasher was an old one and I didn't use it that much. But water was running all over the floor and I wiped it up, and I said that next time, I would double-check. But it kept doing it, so I did the claim to American Home Shield over the internet. I didn't have any difficulties but it was different from years ago when I started with AHS. It was one-on-one and I'm just not an internet person. I'm 74 years old and I'm just not up to the modern step. But it didn't take long. The guy from A&K Appliance Repair came out and checked it. He told me that something was busted inside because it was so old. He said he was gonna talk to American Home Shield about it. It was gonna have to be replaced.
I had to select which way I wanted to go. I could do one of three things. I could let American Home Shield get a dishwasher for me or I could get a check from them. Then, the third option was go to Home Depot with a check. It made it perfect because I didn't have to worry about the dishwasher anymore and trying to get it fixed, and the leaking. It was a positive thing. I have no complaints about it because I got a new dishwasher and it was installed. I've had American Home Shield it for years and it’s a good service.
Thanks for being a loyal customer and for sharing your experience with us. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

American Home Shield's contractor Air Systems Heating and Cooling came out for an AC issue at our place recently. The first time the tech came, he replaced the belt of our unit. He also told me that he didn't know how long that belt would hold. I told him we'd take our chances but then three weeks later, that belt cracked again and something else broke. AHS called Air Systems again and the tech was back at our place that evening. He then told me that I could keep pouring money into the repair of the unit but it's shot. I appreciated that more than having him come back and forth to make repairs. He was very professional and told me that he would be submitting a claim to AHS for them to replace my unit.
Since 2007, I've had five addresses with American Home Shield. I've had other companies try to recruit but AHS has never let me down. When I submit claims, they take my information and their reps then put me on hold. They contact their vendor and then let me know what's going on instead of telling me that somebody will call me back. Though their turnaround time could be a little quicker, the vendors they use have been excellent.

For the last official service, Liberty Plumbing came to my house at least three times. What they would do is they would put sealant in the system because they suspected the leak. The last time they came, they said, "Oh, there's only one pound of Freon left." Right now, again, it's just a game of tag. I'm trying to get Liberty to respond to me so that they could come out again. When I do get them to the house, things are good. They do what they can. But for example, they would come and fill up my upstairs AC unit with Freon. After a few days, it would not cool down sufficiently. And then, I would have to try to get them. And that's where the difficulty is - trying to get them to respond or pick up a phone.
When you call their main office, you would get a prompt for saying, "Okay, for this thing, you press this, for that. For scheduling, you press this." And I always get that, I always leave messages. But I don't know if they never get it or I'm supposed to press another number, but I could never usually get anyone that way, except for when they text me, and then I text them back. I'm having difficulty getting them to respond saying, "Hey, I got your message. I can't get you an answer yet till tomorrow." But other than that, when they do the work, it's good.
In my last go-around, what I did, and what I didn't know was that I contacted Liberty directly to set up another technician to come over, just because their last fixes didn't work. And then, in hindsight, I said, "Oh, you know what? I had already gotten them scheduled for that same day." So, what I decided to do was I called Home Shield and told them I should've called them first, but they said, "No, that's fine." They put it in the records.
Since it was within 30 days, that's the last official request through AHS. And since the issue wasn't solved still, as part of the contract, they don't charge it. But it's good because they put it in their system. And then they email Liberty. So it's not just me, and then they send an email to Liberty requesting, "Please let us know what the diagnosis is." So, it's not just between Liberty and me. Now, on that part, all I see is between Liberty and me in terms of if Liberty reaches out to Home Shield with a diagnosis or whatnot.

The contractors that came for our AC unit recently were fine. They were here before. They found the problem and they fixed it. The drain pipe of the air conditioning unit was clogged. They had to take apart the drain and fix it. They had their face mask on. I also sent AHS a notice about my garage and they sent a garage guy out. When I filled out the stuff, I mentioned that it was for the outdoor keypad. However, the outdoor keypad is not covered under the warranty because it's not part of the system. The contractors didn't fix anything, just did a little maintenance work and said, “You gotta get your own keypad.” So, that’s the problem. I gotta still get it fixed.
The warranty either has to be improved or it has to be spelled out better. It should actually be spelled out there that you don't include the outdoor entry keypad. The reason that it’s so important is that we use that to let 911 come in the house in case of an emergency. We could open the door, and the key to the house is in the garage. That I didn’t like at all.
We also had a claim for a three-speed ceiling fan. The low speed was not working properly. The contractors came out twice. Now, we've been in the house nine years, so the fan’s not a new fan. The bottom line on that was the manufacturer covers the motor for a lifetime warranty if you're the original owner. I told them, “We're not the original owners.” It didn't matter, it seemed. In one ear, out the other ear. They were here twice on it and it's still working the same old way, which is, I can actually count the revolutions on low. It doesn't even work. So that didn't work either. But AHS fixed our washer and that was fine. There was no problem with that. But it's like pulling teeth sometimes. They look for reasons not to fix stuff.

I called the AHS to submit a claim because I had a problem with my air conditioner. Something was emailed to me that it was gonna be Summer Breeze that will be coming out for my air. It also left me with a telephone number to call Summer Breeze. They came out. They were done, but I had to have someone come out seven times. It seemed like my air would go right back out.
They would tell me, "It’s fixed. We got it." Then they would leave. Two days later, my air was out again. So I had to go back through the process again of AHS first and then I said, "Okay, this is back and forth." But I get it now because I've had to call so many times. As far as AHS, I didn't have a problem. They were courteous and they would send a quick email back to Summer Breeze. Then I would wait for a response from Summer Breeze as to who they were gonna be sending back out. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

The air conditioner stopped working and it was a compressor. It was at the end of the summer season. It was from a model Bryant but it had gone out of business so the contractors of AHS had to get parts. But it was gonna take them a while since it was the end of the summer season and Bryant has gone out of business. We moved back to the home that we still owned and lived in it until they could acquire the part. The company at the time that AHS had used was County Wide. County Wide did a good job keeping us informed. But it was at the end of the season and it was in one month of buying the service. So in September eventually, the part came. County Wide came out and then we moved in to the house completely.
Lately, we had Joe Cool, the air conditioner guy, come out to take care of our air conditioning. Then we also had a guy come out and take care of our oven because the coil had died. He came and replaced that. The only thing that AHS doesn't cover in the normal service are the refrigerators and washing machines. We paid about 300 for the washing machine to get fixed a couple years back. Also, on their regular contract, AHS still doesn't have companies who repair gas fireplaces. My wife had to look for somebody on the internet to replace the gas fireplace that we have. But everything else, it's fine. We've been happy customers for this period of time. Our experience has been very gratifying. I didn't have that in the home that I had before. Only in my fourth home that I've done it and I've been glad ever since.
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

A year ago, our real estate agent recommended American Home Shield when we purchased a home because it wasn't a new one. It's old and they thought things could go wrong. I looked at the American Home Shield's line of business. I don't think it's an easy business because there are too many unknowns and it's hard to control events with these various homes they're covering.
Overall, my experience is fine. Any time I spend 1,500, for example, for an annual premium and I'm getting that much value within the first year, it's hard for me to complain because even though it's sort of an insurance product, it's still a money-making business. From my eyes, it's based on the kind of business American Home Shield is.
From a critical standpoint, when you get on the telephone and you're waiting for a customer service rep, the wait time is consistently long. It is ordinarily at least an hour and it can be two hours, especially if you're dealing with their appliance division. When I get on the phone, I'm kind of locked in even though I don't like it. During the wait and if I hang up then, I would have just wasted X number of minutes and I would have to start over again sometime.
American Home Shield taking responsibility is pretty good but it takes forever. They could use more customer service reps. But with the business model, that could possibly be intentional. First of all, it costs money to hire more people. But if I did it over again, would I purchase the warranty? It would depend on the home I buy. If it's a newer home, no. I would just take my chances.
Claims cover a variety of scenarios. If my washing machine doesn't work in the home I buy, American Home Shield will send somebody out to look at it. If they can repair it, they do. If not or if the repair job looks expensive, often they'll give the homeowner a choice. It's either go for the replacement, which American Home Shield ordinarily recommends a product they probably get a good deal on or if I want to buy my own, there's a limitation on reimbursement. My wife pushed me to take that option a couple of times and I just wait and see if I get the check. If I get the check, I'm satisfied. If I don't, that will require more phone waiting.
Also, if a problem is not solved the one time, we have to call three, four, or five times to solve it. Because we are seniors, we don't work so we can do this but how do people who are working handle that? Also, on the weekend, the company is not open and it’s kind of a problem. And if we call for one item, we have to go about four, five, or six people. Finally, they respond. My wife doesn't speak English well. Listening is harder than speaking. Foreigners come in and they do speak English but my wife has a hard time understanding because the accent is different. She would ask them to say it again then apologize. That’s the main problem. Aside from that, there's also the very slow processing.
Looking at it through American Home Shield's eyes, I sorta, like, “Well, what does he expect?” In other words, if you have an old house with old appliances where there's gonna be dollar signs likely, no one knows for sure. On the whole, it takes guts to even go into the business model that American Home Shield has. It’s just sort of like they have a set end of the policy. It's one or two years when you buy a house. After that, we're on our own. We're trying to sell a house. My wife is thinking of getting an American Home Shield policy on that house we're selling for the buyer. But we will have to talk about that more.

There was a warranty on the home when we bought it but it was with another company and I wasn't too thrilled with them. I decided to go with American Home Shield because they seemed to have a pretty good reputation. I googled them online and checked all the references and what people had to say about them. Having an older home built in 1930, I figured I better get everything covered. Recently, the condenser cooling fan on the outside of the unit had quit. I filed the claim and the technician called me immediately, so I was pretty impressed. He did a good job. He'd also done work for me a couple of years ago. The air conditioner has been working perfect. I'm gonna have him come back out and go through both units and make sure they're all up to snuff.

My refrigerator's ice maker wasn't working. The water line wasn't coming out of the mechanism in our refrigerator. I called in a claim to American Home Shield and they sent Suffolk Appliance to take care of my claim. The tech had to order a part that needed to be replaced. Once that part came in, he contacted me and came back out to replace things. Now, everything works fine. I've had AHS for six years now and I like that when something breaks, they fix it in a timely manner.

AHS sent out Appliance Worx for my washer and they seemed really knowledgeable. Their etiquette was great but they couldn't fix it. My washer is still having the same issue. I'm now on my sixth technician appointment in the past few months. So that's discouraging. I’m now working with Sears. They're on their third visit and I'm waiting for them to show up today again. It's disappointing. I need a resolution. Fortunately, I'm a school teacher so I don't work in the summer, but if it’s during the school year, I would have to take six days off or work half days, which is not something I would like to do. They gave me 12:00 to 6:00 and 8:00 to 12:00 windows, which were not really helpful.
AHS is professional and courteous. They are apologetic when I call and complain. That's good but my issue is not yet resolved. My whole point of choosing them was for the great vendors that they said they have. They seemed like they knew what they were doing, but in my case, I'm going on my sixth visit, and I don’t like that.

I didn't know there was a 30- or 60-day range to recall for recurring issues. American Home Shield has never told me that before and I can't say how many times they've opened different work orders for calling back for the same issue. I made the call to American Home Shield because the AC was leaking into my home. When Scooter came out and fixed the AC, initially it did fix the problem and the AC stopped leaking. He owns that business, Air On Demand, and he said he put a p-trap in there. But just yesterday, the AC started leaking again. I'm watching it to see if that's just something that happened or if it's something that's happening again. Nonetheless, Air On Demand was great.

We got American Home Shield when we bought the condo and we kept it after that because some of the appliances are older and it's easier this way. We've had them for 2 years now. They replaced the stove once. Recently, Whirlpool came out and the tech really knew what he was looking for. The dryer wasn't heating up and he came in, pulled it out and checked the fuse. He said the fuse went out. He was on time and he did a good job. However, sometimes you wait a little bit longer for an appointment to get somebody in because usually if you call in about something, it's an emergency.

Our AC claim went great. We were so satisfied. It happened on a Friday and we're here in Arizona. It was like 108 degrees. I've had friends who have had to wait days to get someone out for their air conditioning. Originally, American Home Shield couldn't get someone out until Monday. We got a whole weekend. So we called American Home Shield back and said we needed someone to come out that day. We were staying on the phone however long it would take until they could find a company that could get out here that today, and it worked out right. So in the future, we just wouldn't take no for an answer.
They were able to get Sweet Mountain out that day and the guy had the part we needed on his truck. He didn't even have to order it. He was able to switch out the part so by the end of that day, we had air conditioning again. Air conditioning here is a big deal. So that was really awesome that we were able to get someone out here that day. We were so grateful and everything works great. This is the second time we've had to have someone come out. Before, it was last summer and the contractor was able to come out the same day also. So the problem was resolved. We've been happy with American Home Shield.

I wasn't sure if I should contact American Home Shield or if I should call AT Appliances to see what I should do. But I just haven't had time to do it. I used to think that AHS wasn't really worth the money. But it seems like the air conditioner goes out every summer and the heater goes out every winter. And they always come out to fix it. It seems like it's worth it. If you put the total payment and you multiply it and figure it out, it pretty much paid for itself throughout the year. They were also super nice when I talked to them.

My AC wasn't cooling my house really good and to file the claim, I just called American Home Shield and went through a prompt system. It was a short process of charging $75. It was really fast. It was amazing. They said they were gonna contact a company to call me and then within a few minutes, I got a text message that told me this company would contact me to make an appointment. Then South Placer Heating and Air called me within few days and I'm super happy with my experience.
One of the good things was that the technician, David, wasn't in a rush. He spent a good time on my system and he solved my problem in one visit. That was amazing. He went through everything step by step and checked the temperature for every single vent. Then he told me there was nothing wrong with anything. He checked the temperature and it was really cool but he said the edge of my vent wasn't in a good shape. He just used his fingers, opened the vent and changed the shapes of the panels, and it was a miracle. My house became super cold.
But last year, when I called American Home Shield, they sent someone to my house who, without seeing anything, just told me, straightforward, that I needed Freon and that it was gonna cost me $300. I was in shock. How come they were asking me for money and not even checking anything? I didn't want to have them to fix the AC and I asked another company, who told me different things. So I didn't trust either one of them. But David was a really good guy. I liked him. He was super professional and really polite. They were also using masks all the time.

They said there was a burnt connection, which wasn't allowing the bake function to work. They were able to fix it on site. They just repaired the connection.
American Home Shield has been great. We've used them a few times, and it's worked out well. The $100 fee does hit up front. We are paying 60 a month already, which is $720 a year, and I prefer not paying 100. But submitting a claim has been straightforward. I did the claim on the oven on the phone. It was the automated system I was able to use. So, it was fairly quick.

The oven part of my gas stove would come on, go back off, come on and go back off. It’s not supposed to do that but the whole time that something was in the oven, that was what it was doing. I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. Three days later, the contractor came out. They said between 11:00 and 3:00 and the time was good. The first time the technician came, he took the top off and put a piece inside the oven. But it was still doing the same thing so I called them again. The second time he came out, he pulled the stove out and he put the top front part in where you turn the oven on. It seemed like it was doing fine while he was here.
Then, last Wednesday, I turned the oven on and it started doing the same thing. I can’t use my oven like that. I called AHS back and they resubmitted it again with Suffolk Appliances. They said I will hear from them within 24 hours. So, I called them to see when they will be coming out and they're gonna be coming out today between 11:00 and 3:00. My sister told me about American Home Shield and I’ve been using them for two years. My nephew just closed on his house last week and I told him that when he moves in, he needs to get AHS but because my oven is still not working, I'm dissatisfied with AHS.

One time, my AC unit went out and American Home Shield sent a company out. The techs got to my place at 9:30 at night to check my unit out. I could tell that one of them was drunker than Cooter Brown. Also, AHS sent me a bill this year for 700 something dollars which is almost $100 more than what I paid last year. Recently though, my AC unit's fan was turning on but it wasn't putting any cold air out of the ductwork. I called American Home Shield and their reps set my claim up. They gave me the telephone number of Southern Air Conditioning and Heating and told me that company would get in touch with me. They also sent me a couple of e-mails stating who will be taking care of my situation.
The tech who came knew exactly what he was doing. He asked me what was going on and I showed him the air conditioning unit. I also brought him inside and showed him where our thermostat was. He had to go get a part and so he left and was gone for 45 minutes at most. He came back with some parts and took the side of our unit off. 30 minutes later, he plugged the breaker for our air conditioner and it worked. Another time, I had a dryer problem and the guy who came out and fixed that did an excellent job. I'm overwhelmed not to have the experiences I've had in the past with American Home Shield. Things are shaping up.

Once you call to make a claim, it takes forever to get through. Also, you're constantly talking to the automated system and they keep referring you back to the main menu. If we could change that and expedite this, that would be great. I had a problem with the shower stall. The handle on the faucet completely broke and we couldn't turn off the water so I had to turn off the water to the whole unit. When Roman's Rooter came out, the tech asked me what the problem was and I explained it to him. He asked me how I turned off the water. I told him I had to go outside. He asked if it affected both units. I said just mine. He said, “Okay.” So, he looked at it and said he can fix it, and he commenced to fixing it. After that, I had no problems.
The last set of contractors Home Shield sent out to the home was Plumbers, Inc. I wasn't too happy with them. I didn't like their service. I've given a link to my customers where they have purchased the home warranty for themselves. When I make my claims, I do it all over the phone. Usually, I get a hold of people pretty easily. But during the whole COVID situation, the two times that I contacted American Home Shield took way longer to get through to them. I had a new situation with the AC then my stove. They changed my stove but it took almost a month and a half.
For my AC, they sent out Cool Works Heating & Cooling. Their guy got here on time and was very informative. Everything was good. I called three times in the past couple of years regarding my two AC units and they kinda really need to get replaced. But American Home Shield is telling me other things and I kinda understand why. They don't want to pay for a brand new AC. My units are older and they're just telling me, “No, close the blinds, do this, change the flow.” I've never had a problem with it before but we’ve been in this house for 14 years. When a pool pump failed, we called AHS. They sent out a contractor who determined that the pump was not covered and that he would replace the motor for $600.00. That cost us $75. We called AHS, waited the obligatory hour on hold and was offered a second contractor for another $75 fee since we have the optional pool coverage and AHS confirmed that pool pumps are covered. The second contractor told us he would report his finding to AHS but said the problem was the pool pump motor. After not hearing from AHS we called, waited on hold for another hour plus and spoke to someone who said the parts to repair the pump “were on order“ (AHS code for “hang up”). After not hearing from anyone for days, we called The contractor and were advised that AHS had not contacted them to proceed with the work.
AHS charged us another $75 in the meantime. Now, we cannot reach AHS since the number they gave us to follow up is off the hook. To replace the capacitor the cost would have been $15. Independently, we learned that To replace the motor would have been $250 plus labor. AHS’s vetted contractor tried to nick us for $600! After weeks of AHS incompetence in dealing with this issue we are still nowhere with them, unable to reach anyone with authority to resolve this issue, and are seeking another reputable insurance company that treats its customers professionally. AHS has a culture of deny, delay, deceive, and disappear. Don’t buy their marketing. They are impossible to deal with!

Worst company ever! I spent an entire year trying to get an AC split unit repaired a couple of years ago which I should have learned from. I kept them and when something went wrong they did send someone out promptly to fix issues. It's not until you have a real problem that they will completely let you down. I have had issues with our fridge for a while now so they send someone out. They try and fix it and it works fine for a while. The issues got worse so the technician had to render the fridge inoperable in order to deem it irreparable. So American Home Shield's deal is, "If we can't repair it we replace it," untrue. After 17 days, a dozen phone calls and hours of waiting on hold and being on phone calls they tell me to go ahead and purchase it myself and they'll reimburse me. I do and after 13 days, & hours of phone calls I call back today and they tell me they aren't responsible for the replacement nor a reimbursement.
I was with them for 5 years and the service was getting better but the last month has been a nightmare and a waste of time. The people you're forced to talk to don't know anything, are no help and extremely hard to understand. I was promised multiple times they would call me back and follow up which are just lies they tell to get you off the phone I suppose. 3 different people told me they would make it their main objective and follow up within 24 hours, no calls no emails. They will lie to you and tell you they're talking to the contractor that came to your house when they aren't. I would call the repair company myself and ask and they had no idea what I was talking about. It wouldn't have been so bad if I could of had a straight correct response instead having to constantly call and be lied to.

The GE repairman sent by AHS was very efficient and professional. On his first visit, he was unable to duplicate the leakage problem my dishwasher had. A few days after he was there, I used my unit, and it again leaked water & suds on the floor. On his second visit, we used the dishwasher detergent I used (the new Cascade with rinse agent), and it again leaked & suds came out. He advised that my older unit had a smaller water tray, and the rinse agent made the water softer, producing much more suds than the tray could hold. Then, when the next rinse came thru, it was too much for the tray, and it overflowed onto my floor. He suggested I use only the old style detergent, which has no rinse agent, and the problem has been solved. The repairman was really great!! He knew the dishwasher unit well, and was a great representative for GE and AHS.

Waited till 6/11 for AHS contractor (home services incorporation) who decided compressor needs to be changed and we have to come up with 816$ copayment that we immediately agreed to. Apparently the contractor did not finalize his recommendations with AHS till 6/17. And ever since nothing happens.
I called several times and every time I waited on hold 55-175 minutes just to hear the same “contractor orders the part and it needs 3-5 business day and you would be contacted”. I am still waiting with a temperature of 93 and high humidity. The customer service never connected me with higher level supervisor. The service is very suboptimal and customer service is extremely poor, useless and takes forever to reach. At the end all my calls and waitings were wasted. Last excuse today was the last long weekend (4th of July). I am seriously considering legal assistance on this matter.

I believe my issue is resolved; after a 9+hour wait, I had to call back the next day and held another 3+ hours. But the person I dealt with resolved issues from the offer they had given us for our un-repairable refrigerator. We were not happy, but the second person got everything back on track. I'm still not sure what I will do when renewal time comes. I am very happy with AHS to get a service call scheduled and get someone out here, but if you need help past that it's a nightmare.

Less than 1 star. I have been on hold for 9 hours today. Got cut off three times at 2.5 hours, so I think they just do that to clear the deck. I also held yesterday. Fridge can’t be repaired, so I need replacement. Zero info from AHS, I have just been calling to no avail. I will not be renewing membership.

The air conditioner was making a loud noise like a washing machine and it turned out to be the blower motor. When I made the claim online to American Home Shield, they let me know what contractor was coming out and what time. Then, they contacted me to verify. The guy from Air Control Experts was great and the service was very professional. He came in, did his work and left. Everything’s good since then and we’ve got air. I’m happy that I subscribed to American Home Shield. I've been living in that house for 15 years and it’s getting older. I kept seeing the commercials and I kept seeing AHS online. I checked it out and I dealt with a couple of new vendors. AHS came out to be the cheapest. They're fast, concerned, fair and peachy.
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I called and put the claim in for the washer that wasn't draining. The reps were helpful and got me what I needed. I requested Nice Guy. They were available and American Home Shield had them come out. They said that Nice Guy would be contacting me of what day they could come out and within 24 hours, I had a text about when they could. They came out and fixed the washer. Nice Guy is great. I really like them.
We've had American Home Shield forever and the only thing is they offered such a poor washer though they gave options of the ones that I could choose from. They replaced this washer two years ago and it's the worst washer ever. The contractor has come out three or four times to fix it. Within the first year, they had to replace the whole chamber. It's like a floating chamber so it's easy for stuff to get stuck in there. All the features are awesome, but it's really badly built. To have a major thing like that be wrong within the first year and to have three service calls within two years is just terrible. Other than that, I definitely recommend American Home Shield. I always recommend to have a home warranty because it would definitely cost us more not to have one.
Thanks for letting us know how everything worked out for you and thanks for recommending us. We look forward to helping you in the future. Take Care.

The problem is not always American Home Shield. Sometimes it's the contractor. There has been a time or two when the contractor wasn't thorough, but American Home Shield always follows up and gets somebody else out here to where it ends up being okay. Recently, our AC wasn't cooling two times in a row. The first time, someone came out and said that it was my ductwork/Freon. I don't think he did a thorough job though. He came back 48 hours later and put some Freon in it, but 5 to 10 days later, I noticed that it still wasn't cooling. It happened to be in the attic and when the second guy came out, he said that the drain line was clogged up. He flushed it and it’s cooling now.

I don't have any problems with American Home Shield. My experience with them has been excellent and they've already been recommended. The claim where 7 Cities Air came out came out very well. The air conditioning unit that I had was 27 years old and there were no more parts available for it. It had also been repaired so many times and it wasn't worth repairing anymore. 7 Cities Air did a great job. I went from no AC to complete AC.

I’ve had a great experience from the time that I started with American Home Shield and I don’t think there’s anything they need to change. They’re able to bring out great mechanics and they come out and they explain. They also give you tips on how to handle things going forward as far as the small stuff. Recently, my AC claim was handled quite well. May Heating & Air came out and the guy was very professional and very thorough. He explained what happened and he went through the process of what needed to be done. He went out there and it didn’t take him long to find the issue and fix it. It was the battery ‘cause I had the digital, and the battery was dead. I was also given tips on buying a certain battery and changing it out at a certain period.

The water heater was leaking from the top and it was all rusted on the top. R & M Plumbing came out pretty quick. They were very professional and honest. They did the job that was given to them. They explained everything and were very helpful. However, I don't like American Home Shield's website because it doesn't give you options. If there's another provider and I'm not happy with the one that American Home Shield chose for me, I don't have an option to choose who I want to go through. Also, it doesn't give you options and a way of explaining what the problem is. It's just basic. It has dropdown menus and that's it. If you choose "other", it does give you options to put in but it's not the problem.
When American Home Shield contracted out Reliable Plumbing, they wanted $770 to install the water heater. We said no because that's too much. We could go buy a water heater for that much and install it ourselves. They were escalating their charges to make more money off the service call. When we tried to contact American Home Shield about it, I understand that COVID kinda screwed everybody up but it took hours to get on the phone with someone.
It also took forever to have them to subcontract someone else to come out because Reliable Plumbing had already purchased the parts, and they didn't wanna subcontract somebody out until we spoke with a supervisor. He finally helped us because it was either go through Reliable Plumbing or take the cashback option which was only $400 something. Then we still had to hire a plumber ourselves to install the equipment. It took over 2 weeks of getting this resolved and it was ridiculous. We put in the service call on the 3rd of June. We didn't get a new water heater until the 1st of July.
I'm not happy with Reliable Plumbing. They should've never purchased when we said no and we didn't want to go through them. There was no follow-up after they came in to initially assess. The guy didn't wanna give me a price until I spoke with someone through American Home Shield, and that took hours to get through. When I finally did and said we didn't want it, they said they already purchased. That whole situation was horrible and this isn't the first plumbing issue we had. This was their third time coming out.
The first time they came out, they wanted $325 to cut a hole in our wall. We pretty much pointed the leak out to them 'cause we looked first, and we cut holes in our floor to show him. But he thought it was behind the wall, which it wasn't. Now, I have a hole that I have to have someone fix. That's more money out of my pocket. He ended up going to where we told them where the leak was and fixing it where we cut the hole but I'm out of $325 for a hole in the wall where there was no leak. If he felt like the leak was behind the wall, he should have had a way of investigating without cutting a hole in the wall. The second time, we had a leak under the house. It was a drain leak which caused us out-of-pocket $8,000 to have all the water removed through an emergency water removal company and still didn't fix the leak. They told us to go under there and just patch it up with mortar.

The thermostat doesn't hold the temperature that we set it at. When you set your thermostat, your home is supposed to be that temperature, but ours was going up hotter and hotter. It was going up higher than what we set it at. So, Comfort First came out and looked at things, came out to check the Freon and make sure the filters were clean and different. They did recommend to change the filter and see how that does now. Comfort First was out yesterday for the second time. The first time they came, and it happened again. This week is gonna be a hot week and that's usually when it happens. So, we'll keep our eye on it to make sure that is what the situation will be.
I feel okay about Comfort First. My favorite American Home Shield contractor is Reliable. I usually use them, but they have some issues with AHS which they have corrected. They're the one that put the system in upstairs but when I was having the issue, they were not available. We've been using AHS for a few years. My husband's main concern was that he got tired of how we have to pay the fee when someone comes out. When Comfort First came out, they explained to us, "Well, you have so many days if this situation happens again." That was good information that they gave us, which we never knew before. We could have probably saved a lot of money, without paying that $106 if we knew that from the beginning. Other than that, I'm very much so satisfied with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield sent Aaron's Plumbing to address my issue. When their tech came the first time, the kitchen sink faucet that he fixed stopped working as soon as he left. I tried to contact Aaron's to tell the techs to come back. I had to go through Home Shield for a recall and I was waiting on Aaron's for two weeks. With AHS, I tried to call for over a week and I could never get through. It was very hard for customers like me. I kept calling Aaron's Plumbing as well every day and telling their answering service that they should come and fix my faucet. Finally, a lady who works for Aaron's told me that she was sorry and that she didn't know why nobody called me back. She told me that she would make sure that their techs get on my issue. A week after that, their guy came back and put my new faucet on. Since then, things have been great.
American Home Shield has nothing through which I could contact them. That's something that should be fixed because they would never know that I had a problem. Despite this issue, Home Shield is a wonderful service. Every time I've had a problem, their contractors have come out. If I put on AHS's site that I need some electrical or plumbing service, they get me their contractor that same day. I wait 24 hours, call the company and they come out. I wanna renew with AHS. I love this company.

Quite promptly, as soon as I called the tech, he was able to say, “You know what, it's an old water heater and you’re probably gonna need to just replace it.” So, the next day or two days after, he sent someone out and two guys replaced it and we're doing good. I've had other claims and Home Shield always did really well for me. They always came through with what I had to deal with. My refrigerator wasn't cooling on the refrigerator side and it was overcooling on the freezer side. I called on the phone where there was a man who gave me instructions on how to file the claim. Then I did the actual claim online on my cellphone but my thing was saying that it wasn't working. So I emailed the guy who had helped me set up the home warranty back in March. I told him that I was having trouble making the claim and he said something about the account not having been fully activated. The fridge started having problems at the very end of May and since the guy had all the dates that I had signed up for it, he put it back to March.
That aside, I like the website. I do the filing mostly from my cell phone, never from the computer, and it's pretty easy. But I thought the process was gonna go really fast and I was surprised how slow the process was. That was the only thing. I figured maybe COVID had something to do with it so I just had to be patient. But being without the fridge for a little over a month though, the time was very frustrating. Other than that, all things considered, the technician from Big Kountry Appliance Repair was a big help. When he came in, he was professional, courteous and real quick. I also really liked the tracking emails that we get from the home warranty that shows the technician is on the way. That was a big help.
The repair has definitely been making life a lot easier. I'm excited that we have a fridge. Everything has been going real good. We have still been scared to put food into the refrigerator side because everything would go bad. When the fridge wasn't working, the milk was only keeping for three days and then on the third day, it would go bad. Today was the very first day that I put a gallon of milk in there and that's how I'm gonna know if the fridge is working or not. But I've also been putting some stuff that I know keeps a little longer in there. We have a little bit of groceries in there, like a little bit of fruits, and I've noticed they've kept cold. It is a good feeling to be able to use it and not have to worry about groceries that only last a day or two at a time.

I probably could have gotten through to them other times, if I just sat there and waiting on the phone for 30 minutes, and a lot of times I don't have the time. Most recently, RJ Service Solutions came for my garage door. The tech supposedly fixed the issue. He also told me that they had a year's warranty on their service. A couple of weeks after, the garage door started doing the exact same thing. I recalled RJ Solutions myself and told them we just had something done by them. They sent their tech out again and he changed little things at the bottom of the garage door sensors. AHS eventually found out about the service and they honored their contract. Making a service request with American Home Shield is not too difficult. My fourth claim to them was for my garbage disposal and they sent out More Than Plumbing. In three to four days, someone from there came out. This experience was better than my last experience with my washer and dryer. I was very dissatisfied with that experience.
They told me that they were giving me something comparable to what I had. I had a Maytag and they said what was comparable was a GE. I never knew that a washing machine came without a dispenser for fabric softener. I've never seen that in my life. Other washers and dryers I've ever known from my parents or anybody always had a little spot to put the fabric softener. But the GE washer American Home Shield recommended didn't.
I called to say, "Hey, they didn't have in the details that this was not available or this is not a function of this washer." They were said they already delivered the unit and that I would have to keep it now. I felt like I should've gotten the payout for it and just went and bought my own. What they recommended was not comparable to what I had and I was very disappointed with that. I almost canceled my policy. But I have so much going on in my life that I didn't feel like looking for another warranty company to go through.
With the garbage disposal claim, that was the second one that I had to get through American Home Shield. It almost makes me second guess. I'm paying for this insurance. What kind of products are they having the company provide me with? In the almost four years I've been with American Home Shield, I've had to get a new garbage disposal. I don't remember my parents ever having to get one. I know products are different now and I understand that. But in the warranty, are they giving me the products that would last or are they giving me mediocre products so I make another claim? If it is that, I could just put to the bank what I'm paying in American Home Shield every month so that when something does go wrong, I would have the money there to take care of the problem.
At this moment, I am going to keep American Home Shield. But if something else better comes, then I am gonna cancel and go with the other company. With the last experience I had with them, they did take care of me. But it was more of the company they sent out versus American Home Shield. The company and the representative that they sent out were excellent.

The website is hit and miss at best. It seems that at a certain time of day, 3pm or so, you cannot reach Home Shield by telephone and you cannot get online on the site. It's like they turn everything off. If you call, you would sit and wait and wait. I waited for an hour one time, and no one came on. Next morning, no problem. But for older folks that are on Social Security, when your furnace or air conditioner goes, it's a huge expenditure that you're just not expecting. That's why I had the insurance. I had it for three and a half years with no problem.
Every time that I've had to call, I get a representative that is Oriental or Filipino or something along those lines. I was a nurse for 30 years and I had Oriental and Filipino doctors, and that's what their accent reminded me of. But they talked so quickly, I couldn't understand what they were saying. I would stop them and say, "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be hard to get along with, but you're talking too quickly. Please, slow down."
Crown Temperatures Heating & Cooling came out because my air conditioner wasn't cooling. They put Freon and a new seal. The first day, it didn't work. The house heated up. It was in the 90s outside and the house was like degrees. So I called them and told them it wasn't working. And they said, "Well, if it's not working, you need a new unit." They told me that it would cost me $2,400 because of modifications they had to make. I was angry because I had this home warranty so that I wouldn't have these big surprise expenditures.
I was going to cancel the insurance. When I finally got to talk to the person who was supposed to cancel the insurance, she explained everything to me in a way that I could actually understand. Pamela was very helpful and she explained to me that it wasn't the air conditioning unit itself that I was paying for. It was the modifications of that company felt they needed to make. She offered to send out another contract, which she did. She offered me $1,200 or something close to that that Home Shield pays if I decided to upgrade. About the Freon, Home Shield covers the first $10 for each pound of Freon that is needed. And that day ended up costing me $100 for the service call plus another $400 for the Freon. I asked Pamela, "Can you do any less?" The company pays $10 for each pound, and anything over and above, that is your responsibility. One of their exclusions.
When this other place, Engineered Climate Control, came out and looked at the unit, they said, "Yeah, well, you know, it's 13 years old. That's at the end of its life." Also, they told me that they already knew that Home Shield would pay this $1,200 and that they would charge me $1,700. And when I looked at what Crown said that I would owe, the $2,400, minus what Home Shield said they would give me, it was $1,200. So, that was really a better deal and Crown wasn't out of the ballpark as far as what they thought.
The unit is working now. The next morning, when I woke up, the house was cool, and it has been cool ever since. The Crown tech said, "If it's working, give yourself time to save the money." So, I've decided to wait until it dies and try to save the money. I know that it's an old unit and that it would go at some point, and I will use Crown when it does. The thing that I don't know is if I don't upgrade to a new unit right now, would Home Shield then not give me what they said they would give me. Crown wanted to do a deal under the table. And that got me to wondering if they use these referrals that Home Shield give them and then go out try to bill people and sell them new units when they don't really need one. But other than that, both contractors were good and very knowledgeable. For the most part, Home Shield has been there and they've been reliable when I needed them.

My assistant has American Home Shield and she told me about a time when her HVAC system went out. She contacted American Shield and did not have any issues. She said it ended up having to be replaced. After that, I thought at least for my major items, I would cover those with American Home Shield. Recently, Sears came out. The initial issue was my oven had stopped working and we were smelling gas. I had the gas company come out and the technician pretty much narrowed it down to it being an igniter in the oven. When the technician from Sears came, I gave him the written information that the gas company had left, and he knew exactly what they were referring to. He pulled out the stove, did his initial assessment also to verify it and that was the issue. He replaced the igniter and that was it.
When I filed the claim, they said to expect the technician between 12:00 and 4:00 and he came within that time. It was an excellent service. He was very knowledgeable and patient. He pretty much knew what he was doing at each step of the way. He was very professional too. The gas company had to turn off my gas because the tech did not wanna pull out the stove. My kitchen was finished and he didn't wanna damage anything. Once the Sears person came and did what he needed to do, I had to call the gas company to turn it on. It's a no brainer and not everyone knows about it, so there's gotta be a better way to advertise to people. I didn't know about it until three months ago. We bought the house from the previous people, and they had it, so we ended up inheriting it through them. The only thing that I'm a little bummed about is that we have central air and something was a problem with the compressor. It was during the heatwave and I have an almost eight-month old baby, so I needed someone here immediately.
I ended up getting ahold of a place, and they came, but it wasn't through American Home Shield. I was hoping to get reimbursed because of the emergency situation. I got a response back saying that it was outside of what they do, so they were not gonna reimburse me. Other than that, things have been good. I got a text message that my appointment is set for this day. They never called to set the appointments. I asked if we could make it for the afternoon because I work and they accommodated me. I took half a day off and the first time that they made the appointment, I waited and waited. I got a phone call stating that they had an emergency and they couldn’t come out. They asked if we could reschedule and I said that was fine.
I rescheduled for another day and took another half a day off. The guy called me and said that he was on his way. So, I came home. He came over and he saw the ceiling fan with the lights. Besides the fan, the light was not working so there was a little bit of shortage on it and I was concerned. They looked at it and said it was not repairable. I kinda had a little bit of relief. It's damaged. So, I was comfortable and told them to get rid of it. They were very nice when they came to the house. They were very pleasant and they were in and out. They analyzed the situation and they said that they would contact me. I waited and waited but no one contacted me. So I sent a message again and asked if they were coming out here. They said I gotta choose my fan and I have a limit of $120. So, I went into Lowe's. I chose a fan with the ceiling lights and I sent it over to them.
We went back and forth with a little bit of messaging and then the girl set the schedule yesterday between 1:00 and 5:00. I had to leave work so I asked if they could text me when they were coming. No one texted me and I kept texting them. So I left and I sent my boss a text that I gotta leave just in case the contractors show up. I'm not having my daughter open the door for nobody. I have to be present. So I got home and I texted him again. He said that they were coming between 1:30 and 5:30 and I was scheduled.
At 4:44 I texted them and asked where they were and told them that I was waiting here. I got a phone call from the technician and he said that they were not gonna make it out that day and that my situation is not an emergency. He had an emergency so he was gonna give me my time and they would come on Friday. I told them that this was the second time they did it. He told me not to speak over him and he started screaming at me. I got teary eyed and I told him that I pay my dues and I'm a customer regardless of emergency. My case is important to me and I get it that he had an emergency but he should not talk to me like that. He asked if I didn’t like the way he talked and hung up the phone.
I sent Whitney a text message stating the situation. I was upset. I said that I'm gonna contact American Home Shield and Better Business Bureau. This is not the way we conduct business. The owner ended up contacting me. He was a very nice man and he apologized. Unfortunately, the only technician he has that works for my area is this guy. So, I need to repair it. I don't know how to fix this stuff, which is why I have a home warranty. Someone was supposed to contact me today regarding this situation and no one has contacted me from American Home Shield.

My lights weren't working. I went to AHS's website and requested service. Their site was fine but then I didn't hear from the contractor they assigned, Alste Electric, so I called them. The techs from their provided adequate service. The problem turned out to be my fixtures which isn't covered. So, I got a different electrician to take care of my issue. Being with AHS has been challenging. What will and won't be fixed is unclear. On many occasions, I would call ahead of time to try to check if something would be covered before I spend some money to have someone come out. AHS's reps would really struggle to answer if something is or isn't covered. Sometimes, their reps are overseas and there are barriers to their understanding of the equipment in my home.

There were a few things that Elite Experts Appliance Services came out for and fixed. Our refrigerator started leaking water. It covered the whole floor in the kitchen. Then my washer and dryer were not working. They were not drying. It would stop in the middle of the spin. The heat of the washer and dryer wasn't drying the clothes all the way. I called American Home Shield. I was given a window when I would hear from the contractors.
Elite was exceptional. It was a very busy time even for a warranty company because I was on hold forever. So I guess there were a lot of calls going in and out. They would call and say, "Hey, we were supposed to be here this time but we're stuck here." They were very professional. I was very impressed with their service and customer service. When the lady in the office tried to call me back and I was downstairs with my daughter, the owner called me and said, "Hey, I just wanted to let you know I was able to get you on." It was a lot of teamwork. I was really impressed of how considerate they were. And even though they were late, they were timely because they communicated that. They weren't rude or disrespectful. I would recommend them to anyone. Coming in the house, they wore shoe covering and I thought that was very good also. They wore a mask, too.
Also, my spouse and I fell asleep on the sofa while the contractor was here. He fixed everything and left and sent us a text that went, "Hey, you guys were really knocked out so I just want to let you know I'm all done." So, they're trustworthy too! A lot of business does not operate the way that they're operating and that's above all the rest. They fixed three different appliances and walked away. We didn't have any complaints. When I explained to them that I have a young child, they put me on the schedule. They fit me in when they can really could. I had a great experience with them.

I was getting just warm air coming into the house and I went over to the machine outside. I noticed that the compressor wasn't even running and it was only the fan that was running. When we put in this claim, American Home Shield wanted to send Comfort Pro. We had a major problem with them back in December and they left us without heat for nine days. I told AHS to take that name out of the system. I didn't even want them at my doorstep. Since we went to an automated system, I had to sit on the phone for an hour waiting to get an agent on the phone to change it. I waited 45 minutes the first time and I couldn't wait anymore. I waited an hour the second time and I finally got somebody on the phone.
The rep changed it and got this guy to call me. As soon as the technician came the following day, he knew exactly what it was. He took the cover off the machine and pointed right to the problem, which was the capacitor and he changed it. The machine started right up again. Within 20 minutes, it was done and as of right now, it's working great.

I submitted a claim with AHS recently because the dryer went out. When the contractor came out, he did a nice job. He wore his mask and he stayed where he had to stay at. We signed some papers and he left. The process of AHS is fine. It's better than me calling somewhere and gotta pay $500. So, I like it. My experience with them has been good.

We had to put a pot underneath the sink because water was leaking through and I called the claim in to American Home Shield. The wait time was a little long but the rep was nice. The contractor was friendly and very respectable. He was a couple of minutes early and had his mask and gloves on. He was very careful and knowledgeable in explaining what the issue was. He took care of it. I haven’t had issues since and everything has been working perfectly. The service with AHS has been great. One time, the service team never came out so they had to do a refund, and there was no problem.

Our hot water heater was no longer heating the water. It was just very ice cold water. My husband called American Home Shield. The rep said that they would contact a company and we should hear something within the next day. On Time Plumbing & Heating was our contractor. We called and they called us to schedule. It was either the next day or the day after that company actually came out and fixed the hot water heater.
The tech was great. Our window was like 12:00 to 3:00 and he showed up right at 12:00. It was quick and he was in and out. He made sure he cleaned up what he was working on and explained it to my husband. We had no issues at all. Our unit has been great since then. It has actually better hot water than before it was fixed. The fix let us not take cold showers anymore. Being a part of American Home Shield was great. The only negative is we tried to file the claim online and it gave us an error and wouldn't let us do it. It said I needed to call to file a claim which was what we ended up doing. We were on hold for about an hour.

I recommend American Home Shield to everybody. When we had a frozen pipe, filing the claim was very easy. Tri-County Plumbing came out twice because the first time they came out, we couldn’t find the water shutoff and had no idea where it was. That happened to be the last day that the guy was working because of the COVID shutdown. When we got back again and that company was back to work, we called them out immediately. They’re very good.

I had YAZD Mechanical come out because my air conditioning wasn't working. They changed the capacitor and then it worked. I just showed them where the stuff was. They went out, and fixed it, and then showed me what it was, and then left. The experience was efficient and the job was well done. I called American Home Shield and did the claim by phone. Their claims rep was very helpful. They gave me a window of time at 1:00 to 5:00.
I had American Home Shield before and then I had another company that I did not enjoy being with. I only had them because when I bought my house, that was what they paid for it for a year. But I didn't find them easy to use. I've found American Home Shield to be much easier to use and their contractors and their whole system of dealing with the contractors and the contractors getting in touch with me are much more efficient.

I did have a little problem a couple years back but it wasn’t American Home Shield. It was the company that American Home Shield sent out. Instead of fixing the problem, they kept on patching it. I notified American Home Shield but they ended up sending them again. I just had a horrible experience with that. But I don’t have a problem with Home Shield. Every time I called the company, they sent somebody out right away. It was the same thing with my pool, it was right away. They came and got it straightened in just a couple of days. So I’m pleased with the warranty. I have also recommended it to my family members. I initially saw an advertisement on the TV and when I talked to the person, they explained to me what they covered and what to expect. Now, I've been with them for five years and being a part of American Home Shield has been really nice and good.

I always like to have a home warranty company and I like American Home Shield the best of anyone I've had. Precision Overhead came out for a claim on my garage door opener. I had heard from another company about a year ago that the garage door opener was dying and it did die. The gear stripped out. So I called the Home Shield warranty and Precision Overhead told me that my whole garage door was so messed up. People had hammered the rails back together and it was gonna put too much of a drag on a new garage door opener. This would sound dumb but I went ahead and got a whole new garage door and everything is great now. At the time, I thought maybe I shouldn't need to do that. But having had the other people tell me the garage door was out of alignment and it was a problem, I felt that everything went well.

I had an issue and I couldn't tell if it was a plugged up pipe or it was my garbage disposal because they're right next to each other. I filed the claim with AHS on a Sunday and a nice guy came out that day. An hour after he left though, we still had the same problem and I was surprised that I had to call somebody back because the first repair didn't work. I paid twice for it. They sent out another guy and he took care of it. However, as the customer, it's difficult to get somebody to come back out. Even on the website, they record the fact that I had a stopped up drain, and I can slide over and there's a place where I can indicate it's still not fixed. In theory, I would get somebody to come back and take a look at it, but that tab doesn't work.
Every time I follow their protocol, I get a message that says the system is not working and to try back in 30 minutes, but it never works. On top of that issue with my plumbing, I've had a recurring issue with my refrigerator, the icemaker. AHS has sent out two different people to fix that and I'm in the same place with that. When the guy left to say goodbye, I asked if he wanted me to sign anything and he said no. He then left and four hours later when I went to get ice for dinner, there was no ice. There was also no water to the refrigerator and I couldn't figure out what he did to not make it work. I went back to the website and said it still wasn't fixed. Today, I had to call the call center somewhere in the eastern part of Europe, and I couldn't get somebody back for almost two weeks, so I'm stuck with a broken refrigerator.
From our opinion, it has been a great insurance policy and we use it like this. We have these emergencies and it pays for itself. It's also easy to file a claim. You get on the website and they bill you for 75 bucks then they make an arrangement. Somebody shows up and the problem is solved. It's been a piece of cake 60% of the time, but over the last two years, it's been less than easy.
American Home Shield is great in concept and a large percent of the time, it works out just fine, but it's these quirky things that make you think about whether or not it's worth it. You gotta want it. Part of the customer service is awful. It's either the website or it's how much trouble it is to get a service person out here. If it still doesn't work, there's what you got to go through to get a second service person to come out and really make sure that it's done right.

I submitted a request for my air conditioning unit on 7/5/20. I was assigned companies with horrible ratings. Last company could not come out until 7/9. I asked if I found my own contractor and paid for it could I get reimbursed. I was told yes initially. I called back to cancel the work request for the company that could not come out until 7/9 and I was told that would not be an option. I have stayed on hold for a least an hour each time I call AHS. Called twice on 7/6 and three times on 7/7. I was supposed to get a return call from a supervisor, but that never happened. I think four days is unreasonable to wait for a contractor to come out and diagnose an air conditioning problem when the temps are in the high 80’s to 90’s.
In addition, there should be an option to pay for the service and get reimbursed in certain circumstances. I have been a customer for over 20 years and I am totally disappointed with AHS. In addition, my heating and air generally goes out each year. I would like to know why AHS continues to put a bandage on it instead of replacing the system. It probably could have been replaced twice considering the amount of money that has been spent on it for the multiple visits each year. Please respond. Thanks.

I placed a service order for my broken dryer in early June. American Home Shield sent a serviceman out (it took a week) and he "fixed" it. However, the first time I tried to use it, I had the same problem - it wouldn't even come on. I tried to call AHS and was on hold for a very long time so I went online and requested a second service. The second repairman actually determined the problem and that a part would need to be ordered. He did a temporary fix on it so that I could at least use it in the meantime.
That was June 15. I'm still waiting for the parts and the repairman. I've attempted to call AHS on numerous occasions and sit on hold with no one ever answering. They offer to call you back if you leave your number but never call. I finally called the local company contracted by AHS and they said they were waiting on an authorization from AHS. I asked them to please call and get it and I haven't heard back from them. I am so disappointed in AHS. It's a worthless service if you can't even reach them when you have an issue. I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

I have been a customer of AHS for 4.5 years and paid close to $3,000 in premiums ($54 per month). The only claim we have made was for a small part that went into a faucet (maybe $10). We had 2 of their contracted service providers out last year trying to help us with a leak with our air handler but no one could find it. We contacted Trane (the manufacturer) who said if the unit was heating/cooling correctly, it was working properly and that something else must be causing the leak in the unit. Trane denied this was a manufacturer's issue.
The past few months, AHS has sent 3 different providers to our home and none of them could find the exact cause of the leak. The first one suggested we replace the entire unit. AHS denied the claim saying that it was a manufacturer's defect and that is excluded in the contract. Then, AHS gave me some ridiculous story about how the HVAC company #1 agreed to fix it for $400. When I spoke to company #1, they said they absolutely did NOT agree to that and had no idea what AHS might be referring to. Furthermore, the gentleman who was here was on the phone with them for over an hour in my driveway and they guided him on how to write up the claim. Of course, they did because they used that guidance (manufacturer's defect) to deny the claim.
After FIVE hours on the phone trying to get this resolved with AHS and company #1, they finally agreed on a second opinion. Company #2 gave some different options to help correct the leak. Again, this was denied by AHS. Several more hours on the phone, I escalated this to the next level. They finally agreed to a third opinion but denied what company #3 suggested also.
1) None of the comapanies will speak to me further because they told me they have to sign something with AHS that they will not discuss the matter or say anything negative about AHS. Two of the 3 companies disputed that AHS was giving me the same information they had given to AHS in order to deny the claim. But, they were unable to provide what they had given to AHS because they are not allowed to, according to AHS vendor policies.
2) Hold times to reach a customer service person have averaged between 45 minutes at the least to 1 hour and 15 minutes before anyone answers the call. This is completely unacceptable.
3) The full amount of the money that you pay for your "Service Fee" for each service provider to come to your house does NOT go to the company. AHS keeps part of those funds. So, they make money on your premiums AND the money that I assumed went to the company that is called to your house to fix the issue.
4) You cannot cancel your policy online. You must call and wait through the long hold times to get your account canceled. You must speak to multiple people who try to talk you out of canceling. They also CHARGE a cancellation fee. Unbelievable.
At this point, paying the $54 a month into a savings account would have been in my better interest because at least I would have that amount to pay for my own repairs. Instead, after almost $3,000, I have NOTHING to show for it and the HVAC system still does not work. I joined this company 4.5 years ago because my brother had great success with them about 7 years ago and recommended them. They have since been purchased by another company that unfortunately, doesn't have the same customer service standards that the prior owners did.
We do apologize that the service issues and customer service provided to you has caused you to cancel your policy. It was not our intent to cause such an inconvenience. We hope that one day you may change your mind. We do appreciate the feedback and will continue to work diligently to improve overall customer experience.

Updated on 7/20/2020: Since then, the company did reach out and take care of the problem. So, I can say that the Consumer Affairs part was very good. They did what they said they were going to and as soon as I sent them the receipt from buying a new refrigerator, they processed a check and sent it to me for the agreed upon amount. It took less than a week to receive the check. So, in the end, for this situation, they did do what they said they would in a timely manner.
Original Review: I signed up with AHS in Feb 2020. Not long after I signed up, my heat pump stopped heating. I called AHS to request service. They sent out a company who sent a young man not older than 21 years old. No uniform, no signage on the vehicle. After looking at the unit, he said the gas igniter was bad and had holes in the heater coils. He said it could not be fixed and I needed a new unit. AHS would be in touch he said. AHS called a few days later and said they would replace the unit and I only had to pay a $1500 deductible. So, the company called me back and said they would come and install a new unit but I needed to pay the $1500 up front. I said, "No, I'll pay you the day you come install the new unit."
In the meantime I had looked up this company for reviews. There were several and were terrible. Not showing up promised, lying to customers, and list goes on. Well, they said they had to have the money up front to do the job. I told them there was no way I was giving them $1500 and then just hope they showed up. I call AHS back and told them I was not paying that up front. I asked if I could get another company to come out and give a second opinion. They said I could but I would have to pay for it. So I did. A reputable company came out out and said the igniter was bad but was fixable, which the other company said it was not. They said there were no holes in the tubes at all. So they replaced the igniter for $275.
I asked AHS to reimburse me for that since I had just saved them a lot of money as well. They refused. They said they wouldn't do that. I either went with the company they sent, or I was on my own. I should have canceled then, but didn't. Fast forward to June, and my fridge started making a funny noise like the fan having a hard time starting up. I put in a service request for my fridge. This time they sent Sears, a much more reputable company. He looked at it and the part that was failing is no longer being made. He said I would probably get my fridge replaced, but that when he spoke with AHS while at my house, they told him they were going to try and find the part. They would not take Sears Appliance word for it. This was on June 25.
It is now July 6th, and I never heard back from anyone at AHS. So, this morning I called them. Never have I experienced a run around like today. I've been hung on twice. Been put on hold so many times I've lost track. When I finally spoke with someone about my account, they said yes, it was to be replaced. They said I needed to talk to the dept that handles purchasing and replacing items, and would I mind holding while they transferred me to that dept. I said OK, thinking maybe we were getting somewhere. I was put on hold and after about 20 minutes, it hung up. So, I call back for the fourth time today. After holding for 10-15 minutes I talk to the lady and explain again what's going on. She goes through the same thing and transfers me to this dept.
As of right this minute, I have been on hold for 2 hours, 21 minutes. It is totally unacceptable. It almost seems like their intention is to get people so mad and aggravated, they just hang up and say the heck with it, and cancel their contract. I am very, very disappointed in this company. I would not recommend them. And of course now, I've been on hold for 2 hours 25 minutes. It is 3:25 pm where I am. I fully expect to be on hold until 5:00 pm or later. If they ever pick up. Beware, you've been warned.

Hot water heater had to be replaced. They assigned me to a HORRIBLE contractor. They deemed it needed to be replaced. They went back to AHS and between the two of them it took 7 days! 7 DAYS with a 5 Month old for me to have no hot water! Then because the old one was out of code, which everything is gonna be cause they change code every three years I had to pay for upgrades.. Which is fine.. Still took them 7 days!
Once I sold the house (2 weeks later) I went to cancel... And the girl was so rude cause I told her I should be paying a fee no matter what the contract was because I had to wait 7 days for a hot water heater.. She said she couldn't sent me to a manager and hung up on me.. I had to call back 2 more times.. Funny how if you go thru the prompts to be a new customer they answer right away.. But if you are going thru it because you're having an issue it can take hours! Had to pay the cancellation fee by check... BAD SERVICE! WILL NOT EVER USE AGAIN. They should not be in business if they can't serve their customers. Of course I read that because of a sneaky clause in their contract it prevents a class action lawsuit... And plenty of people have issues.

However, when I needed to follow-up with the A/C company, I couldn't get ahold of them directly so I put in a follow-up request (and it went to the same company). Again there was no follow-up and apparently no other A/C companies for me to work with.
When I called AHS, I was told the wait time was an hour and there's no option to have them call me back. I called them back and was asked if I wanted a callback so I said Yes. Within 5 minutes I got a call from Sales but the guy was rude and dumped me back to the main menu. Apparently AHS cares more about Sales then Customer Service! I'm still without proper A/C and I'm wondering what will happen after another day or two goes by? Will AHS follow-up with me to get me another A/C repair company? Do I have to wait on hold for another hour or more with them waiting for me to give up!

American Home Shield is very reliable and they get back to you quickly. I called on a weekend and they got back to me immediately. When I used the website also, I got a phone call back at 10 o'clock at night. They’re pretty on top of it.
My husband and I are very satisfied with American Home Shield. If they can’t fix it, they will replace it at the value that it's worth. They replaced the other air conditioner last year because we had problems over and over. So, it's worth it. You might go a year where you're not getting the money's worth, but you might get more than it the next year. I have high-end appliances and it's usually the air conditioner or my stove. The contractors come here, do a thorough job and check up to see if I'm satisfied.

I had some electrical issues in the kitchen area of the home I purchased. When I bought my refrigerator and the guy came to set it up, there wasn't enough electrical current going through the outlets in the kitchen. I ended up having to buy an extension cord to go across my kitchen to have enough charge to keep my refrigerator going. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they sent A to Z Electric. The tech who came in said that he had seen this issue in a lot of homes. He unscrewed things and did what he needed to do with the wiring in seven minutes. The tech was professional and went about his business. Everything is working fine now. So far, things have been pretty good with Home Shield. I've had to contact them regarding a few other things around my house. Things are taken care of with no problem.

I like the fact that if something breaks down in my home, I have a service company that provides the service. They can come out to my home to repair or replace it. It's good to know that I don't have to search for a company. I've had prior experience with my washing machine and dryer and my refrigerator. But I unfortunately have not been satisfied with the issue that I have been having over the last four months in reference to my heat and now my air. It has been a true headache and inconvenience with the companies that have been coming for numerous times. In fact, I've lost track of how many times. You freeze in the winter and you burn up in the summer when you lose what you need to keep your home warm or cool. So that has been very frustrating.
I had heating problem issues in the winter and I went weeks, if not a month and a half, without heat. I was using heaters that I purchased myself. One of the companies had offered to bring me some heaters but never did. They never actually showed back up, answered the phone or called. I had to call American Home Shield to have them finally send another company. I understand that there's a procedure – that the company assigned has to come so many times before American Home Shield can send another company. But that was an issue for quite some time.
Then come spring, I had issues with my air unit and that's been an ongoing problem. American Home Shield was saying a company would come and do this and that. But several times, by the time the tech would get back to their company, my air had stopped working. Therefore, I cannot call the company that just left my home. I would have to call American Home Shield and be on hold for 45 minutes to an hour and a half just to let them know my air was not working. That was almost the same thing that I had to do with the heat although I got through a little more quickly back in January and February. I know we've been with the COVID over these last weeks and I hear the message that comes on prior, and I understand that but it's been a wait to get through.
Another thing is that I have stressed numerous times that my heating and air unit is on the back of my house and it's on the roof. Strange as it can be but that's where it is. So I've always emphasized that the companies that would be assigned should bring a ladder. But there were numerous times where when the company was calling me to say they would be here tomorrow at such and such time, I would remind them and ask if they would be bringing a ladder, and they would ask why they would need it. So they didn't get the information and that was another frustration.
One company finally fixed my heat and that was JF Whitlow. They worked diligently on my heat. So when my air stopped working, I did request JF Whitlow. They ended up coming six times and each time, I ended up being a little bit more disappointed. But the men who came weren't the same ones who worked on my heat. The men would do something and tell me something. They would replace a switch or that but they would not really even stay long enough. I didn't need them to stay an hour or two, just maybe 30 minutes to see how the temperature gauge was going. Several times, my thermostat before the evening came would be at 80 or 85 downstairs. But my house is an older house. It's a frame house and if it's at 80 downstairs, it's 90-something upstairs.
The last thing with JF Whitlow was a compressor switch. But I had also never been left with any type of paperwork about what they fixed, what they didn't fix or what they could fix. Then I was connected with another company last week and this gentleman did leave me a list. He came by himself, went up, checked, got the history and documented at least nine things wrong with my unit. One of them, which he wrote in large print, was that my unit was a fire hazard.
Another company was supposed to come yesterday and they did come but I missed them by a couple of minutes. I flew home as quick as I could but they had left and they're saying I have to pay $50 for them to come back next Wednesday. They're scheduled to come back then so I have to take another day off. I have certain days off every other week so I've had to take days off to be home when the company comes. So that was another inconvenience. However, I've done what I've had to do. But because my day off is next Tuesday and American Home Shield doesn't have anyone available to come next Tuesday, I will take a day off next Wednesday.
But I don't even know why this company has been assigned. Are they coming to verify what the prior company said? I'm assuming this company that was scheduled yesterday is a second opinion and they were coming to see if the unit is really deemed a fire hazard. My heating and air has been there since 1999 and although my air is working now, it's day-to-day. After the man left last week, the temperature went up to 87 degrees and it was hot. But then I came home the other day and the unit was working.

The only thing that I don't appreciate is the long wait on the parts. Sometimes you don't wait for American Home Shield to fix something that is broken and you end up buying something else. Particularly on my washer, I took the decision to buy a new one. But on the refrigerator, I couldn't afford to buy another one and I had to wait two weeks with no refrigerator. But the overall service is good.
I've been with American Home Shield for seven years and I've gone through a lot of contractors. A-US Air has been the best ever. The technician explained everything and was very nice. He went through even when I asked him about calling. I told him I broke the heater and he said it was another call that I would have to make. He said it's like the dishwasher and the other one is the refrigerator. Anybody could have answered that they don't know and that they don't deal with that. But he was very patient in explaining everything. He told me that when I call, he would come and fix the other one later. I asked him how I could call the same people because I was interested to have his company come and he left me the name. He was outstanding.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day

My AC stopped working and I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. I paid my $100 deductible and then their contractor, Piedmont Mechanical came out. I had to pay Piedmont 755 out of pocket for Freon. Since then, my AC has been working fine. I've been with AHS for a year now and I like that when something breaks down, they will be there for me to get things done. As a homeowner, it's always good to have security.

The pump was making a loud noise and not pushing water. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the contractor did a fantastic job. But I don’t like American Home Shield’s website a whole lot because you have to pay $75 before you even know if anything is gonna be done. And sometimes, it could be a week or two weeks before anybody even gets to you. I had an AC issue before that and nobody told me that I was going to have to do that. So, I was on hold on the telephone for an hour and eight minutes and nobody picked up. Finally, when they picked up, I gave them all my information and we got disconnected. They never called me back. Instead of sitting in 97-degree weather all night and I just had surgery, I went ahead and called an AC company and had it fixed. AHS told me that it was my problem and they weren't gonna reimburse me.

They're fraudulent. They tell you all these things that they're gonna do for you, and then when you call them out, they find every reason in the world to keep on getting parts. I have a call in now for my refrigerator. They fixed the same thing five times, and they're still trying to fix the same part. My refrigerator is over 20 years old. I keep having the same problem over and over again, rather than them trying to go on and try to get it taken care of without having me do this and keep spending these $75. It's a waste of time. You can't get them on the phone. They're rude, they're disrespectful, and they're not very helpful either. They will tell you anything too. Sometimes, we have to hang up and call again to talk to somebody because they don't know how to talk to you.
We're spending this kind of money and they're supposed to be accommodating us. We're not asking anybody to give us anything, but every time we think we understand what the list is, they tell us that doesn't apply and they're only gonna give me $50 here, or $25 there. That's crazy. I told the rep, "After this and after I get this done, I do not want it anymore." I'd rather take the risk of doing it on my own than having to deal with the attitude and the unprofessionalism. Also, some of these vendors that they have out there, they're not worth anything. On average, I would not call them to come to my house to do anything.
Now, I didn't have that trouble with Myers though. I had a problem with my air conditioner and they checked it. For the last two times I had them come do my air condition. The one guy that came knew what he was doing and I like for him to come. If I have to use Myers again, I'm only gonna request that particular guy. I don't want anybody else to come because he has shown that he's not trying to cheat you. He's gonna do just what they asked, and he's gonna explain it to you. It's not gonna be back and forth with him and I appreciate that.
Now on the outside, I will call Myers on my own to do that rather than having to go through American Home Shield. To sum it all up, I do not like American Home Shield. I don't like the process, I don't like the false advertisement, and I don't like how they handle and deal with customers and handle the complaints, the problems that we have, and how they address them. I hate it because it's a rip-off. I rate them a 0.5 because they're off the scale.

Every time I get transferred to the Philippines, nothing gets done. But when I got to talk to people in the States, they tried to help me. They were courteous, polite and understanding. It was just that things fell through when it got to having somebody outside their list. I've had an air conditioner out for over two weeks. We live in Redding, California and it’s pretty hot here.
American Home Shield sent out Salyers Heating & Air Conditioning and they supposedly fixed the air conditioner. It worked for a few hours and then it quit working. I tried to get them to come back out. I called American Home Shield. They called them and asked them to expedite the work order. But they refused. They asked to have that work order transferred to another company. I needed somebody to do it. So I asked someone outside to do it. We own a number of rentals so we have a property manager that takes care of our properties for us. I called them and asked them who they use because they can't have a company that flakes off.
I contacted that company and the tech said that because he has to sit on the phone and wait to get authorization, he doesn't work with them. So I said I understand because I would call American Home Shield and I'd be on hold for an hour at a time. This happened at least seven times. If I wanted to wait for one of the other companies from American Home Shield, none of them could even come out and look at the air conditioner until sometime next week. So I called up the company and asked them to fix my air conditioner and that I'd pay for it myself.
The tech said he would come by about 2:30 and he was here at 2:30, went up, checked it out and found out the problem. He called me up and told me what the problem was. The problem was the motor that is an OEM only product, which is expensive. So all totaled, by the time we get done, it was gonna be about $900. He is here now, finishing up. He was here at 12:30 with the part and went to work and will have it done in a few minutes.
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I told my cousin, “I got no man at home now so how am I gonna fix this mess?" She said, "Girl, you get American Home Shield." I submitted the claim online and then Home Shield sent me the people's name. I forgot to ask when they were coming out and I called a week or two later and made for appointment and they came out. Maytag came out to fix the dishwasher. He called in for the part but they didn't have the part anymore so he said they couldn't fix it all. And then, I got a paper estimate. Then I got an email saying that I needed to order a new one. And I got the same thing, an email saying that was zero dollars. And then, I picked Whirlpool for a new one. All they did was drop off a dishwasher. But the unit is working great. Now, we're back on track. I would cook while I ran some dishes, putting them inside the dishwasher at night, then I'm okay. It helps so much. I hate washing dishes.
Home Shield did an excellent job. I had an excellent experience with them, even down to calling to find out. I did it twice and both of them were excellent. The AC man was better than I thought. The man that I got for the dishwasher stood up behind their work. And then when he finished, he made sure, "Don't use this product in here. This product works better. It cleans your dishes." Home Shield is worth it. I tell my sister about it. She's going to sign up for it.

We’ve done two claims with American Home Shield and they both were very quick and accurate. For an electric claim I had, they worked very quickly to get someone assigned to us. They contacted us very quickly as well. Ian with Kelly Brothers Electric was the gentleman that came and I felt really good about it. He was professional and just went to work. It was a pretty quick fix so that was good. He also had a mask on the whole time and we wore a mask in the house just to make him feel better.
We've had American Home Shield for three or four years. We usually have a warranty on our home or for the bigger expenses. It's more as a safety net. There are appliances that are getting to the age where we don't know if they're gonna need repair. The house is pretty new but the appliances now are questionable. When I make claims, I typically would wanna do it over the phone. The representatives were good. There was quite a long wait to get a representative but once the rep was on, it was good. The wait was probably like 20 to 30 minutes. It probably could be improved but I think most customer service take about that long with any company. But I have found that the online claims process is pretty quick and easy.
I am glad to hear all of your experiences have been pleasant. We look forward to a strong business relationship with you.

One claim that I made recently to AHS was for the compressor on my refrigerator. It was a little frustrating because it took three weeks from the time of the initial call. Usually, I submit my claim online. But I made a call on a Tuesday evening and they gave me the name of the contractor over the phone. I called the contractor in the morning. I didn't wait for the contractor to contact me. So, I called him quite early in the morning and he was very responsive. He was a lovely person. He came over that afternoon. When he realized it was the compressor for the refrigerator, he said he'd put the order in right away and we’d just have to wait and see whether they'd replace the whole refrigerator or just get me the part.
It took a whole three weeks until I was able to get the part. I called him about a week later, and he said he was still waiting for the part. I called American Home Shield to find out about a replacement, why it was taking so long. But when I called them, it took forever to get through. I waited on the phone for over an hour to get through and they couldn't give me an answer. They said they don't know. The person that I was speaking to said they’d talk to the parts department. They put me on hold. They had me on hold for a full hour.
I was on the phone for two hours, an hour waiting and an hour while they were trying to find out. They came back and said, “We don't know when the part is gonna come in. We'll call you when it’s in.” So it took a full three weeks until I finally got the part and that was very frustrating. When the guy came and had the part, he called me the next day and he was here and he did a great job getting it fixed. I’m generally a very satisfied customer of AHS. I’ve been using AHS for years. This was just a very lengthy process because any other kind of thing, if it's an electrical thing I need a certain kind of, a light switch or something that takes a while to come, it's never been this long. I'm still happy with AHS.
Jerrold,

My air conditioning wasn't working. Carolina Air Heating & Cooling came out and they found out what was wrong but it was an electrical problem, not a problem with the air conditioner. The guy from Carolina re-hooked up the wire but he said that he shouldn't have done that because he's not a certified electrician. It worked though. Then we had to have the electrician come out and fix it for good. That took another five or six days, which was longer than I would have preferred. But now, the air conditioning works fine.
In having the coverage, I like the reassurance that if something major goes wrong, it could be fixed without me having to be in a hole by a lot. But it takes an hour to get somebody on the phone every single time I call American Home Shield and because some of these issues are complicated, they require multiple phone calls. Then when I get someone on the phone, it would be another 30 minutes at least. So for that reason alone, I would not recommend American Home Shield to other people.
For just this one issue with my air conditioner, I was on the phone for a total of about six plus hours trying to get someone to resolve the issue. Usually when I get someone on the phone, they're able to fix the issue and I know that it's busy because of COVID but it's outrageous that I have to call and wait. I've never in my entire life had such poor customer service by phone. Also, every other company that I've interacted with has an option where if you call and there's a long hold, you can press one and they will call you back when someone's available. I don't understand why American Home Shield doesn't have this. So you literally have to sit there on hold.

Having the home warranty is like having car insurance. It takes away a lot of the stress. But the Freon is $85 a pound and American Home Shield pays $10 a pound. I also got a refrigerator fixed a few months ago and the refrigerator is broken again. They said if they don't fix it, they'll replace it but here I am, going through the same process again with it. I gotta do another claim again on the same thing and pay the fee again so I'm burned out about that. They even sent out two contractors and both of them haven't been able to resolve the issue. I thought American Home Shield would cover more than what they do but it is what is. Moore Air did a good job though. The AC was blowing hot air. That was my first time using American Home Shield, but so far, so good. The only thing I didn't care for is that it happened on a weekend and the person couldn't get out till Monday. It would have been nice if they had somebody that does AC on hand that did weekend work because it could get pretty hot. To have to sit in a hot house over the weekend is not fun. There are plenty of companies here in Houston that do work on the weekends. To have to pay for something on a monthly basis and still have to wait and no one’s there is the part that could be improved.

I got the home and my buddy has a different kind of warranty on his. The only difference is the deductible. But I like it because he has to pay for his deductible for each item that he has. A while back ago, I had three leaky faucets and I just paid $100 deductible for all those three. So, it was pretty good for me. When the dishwasher wasn’t draining, I submitted a claim with Home Shield through the app. It's better that way because I wasn't on hold. The first time I did the claim with my dryer, I was on hold for 20 something minutes because of all this COVID thing going on, and everybody was taking phone calls and stuff. But when I submitted it for the dishwasher, it was quick. It took less than three minutes.
And then, Zen Appliance did contact me the second day, but I have no good reception where I was at. So, they emailed me saying that they were trying to get ahold of me but they couldn't. And then I called them back. And then the third day, they were here already to fix it and everything was good. Everything was professional. I was out of town, but my brother was here and he said that the tech came and had a face mask on. He opened the dishwasher, and then, he pretty much knew what was going on. He cleaned the drain and filters. And then, he tested it and they came out good. He explained to my brother what happened, what was the problem, why it got clogged up, and to be careful not to do this, that. And then, he left. He fixed everything really good. Home Shield is a pretty good program. I love it. I have them for six months already and they have been here for me.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield for my heater tank issue was very easy. Their contractor IRH Plumbing came to fix it. Everything has been fine in the many years I have been their customer. Not too long ago, I had a problem with one of the heaters and the guy sent by AHS came in, took a picture of one of the faucets, and said he had to change all the parts. That was it.
But then, I have another company that made an epoxy for my whole house for avoiding any leaks. Plus, I have a paper that says I have a lifetime insurance for any leak in my house. I called AHS's contractor but they said that the problem I was having cannot be fixed so easily because the epoxy started getting messy due to the heating of the water. This was why I didn't have any hot water in my house. Because of this, they have to change something inside the house. I then called AHS to say that I didn't need their service. Later on, when I had a problem with the water heater, AHS gave me another company who fixed it well.

He came and started to put the new seal on then realized that there was a crack at the bottom that he didn't see the first time when he was here. He said to give him a day and he needed to file a claim. He came back and said that American Home Shield wouldn't accept the claim. But he knew how to fix it so he came over and fixed it himself. He was being nice and helpful and I appreciate that.

A defect on the refrigerator was causing it to freeze up, so the guy who came fixed it right away. He put some stuff and then he had to put a new part in. He was very good and the response time was unbelievable. It was within two days and we never get anybody that quick up here. In the past, we've gone around and around with American Home Shield. When we originally moved in, we had them come out and look at our roof 'cause we had a leak. The guy that came out took a look at the roof and he said it was installed incorrectly. It voided the warranty on the roofing, so they canceled that part of our policy. We then had a couple other people come out. We had solar added and they looked at it. They said there was nothing wrong with the way our roof was put on.
We just spent $18,000 on a brand-new roof. We had to have a company that could come out, remove the solar, put on a new roof, and then put the solar back on. Because if we have a roofer come out on their own, they won't warranty the roof once solar is put on it. We had to do both and we had a hard time finding someone that would do both. We went to the County of San Diego and they gave us a list of recommended people then we got four bids. The bids ran anywhere from 9,000, which would not warranty the shingles, all the way up to 25,000. The roof was shot and should’ve been repaired way back when, but since the guy said it wasn't repaired, our Realtor came out and tried to put some patchwork, which we've been doing ever since we've lived here. We ended up getting the thing which we paid for ourselves and did the whole thing to be done with it.
It took three months to get our spa repaired as well. They kept sending somebody out and he would come out, do something, then they'd come back. That was the really depressing part. In the end, they just gave us cash toward a new spa, which was not that much. We also had an experience with our hot water heater with them where we sat for four days with no hot water. We live up in the mountain area, so we were not pleased. They ended up connecting with Sears, and Sears is a big joke. They put in one and it only lasted a short period of time then Sears couldn't get a replacement of the same kind.
They told us to go out, and if we get one of our own, they would reimburse us, but they refused to because they said it had to be the exact model that they put in. Sears couldn't get that model, so if it was their brand, how could we? We ended up taking them to ConsumerAffairs and put a point against them to get them to come around to reimburse us part of the hot water heater that we had installed. This time, when I called in about our refrigerator, and we've had ongoing problems on refrigerators, they wanted to send Sears out. I said no way. Sears also sold us a brand-new Maytag electric stove when we moved up here and it would never heat right. It had problems with the door and the heat was coming out. They've been here seven times and they haven't repaired it.
They kept changing their mind on what was wrong with it. They put on new hinges, a new seal, a new mounting around the door, a new padding on the door and it's not fixed because the door doesn't fit the opening. I could put a towel on the door, close it and pull it right out. That's how bad it was. The guy then told me that the thing was defective. We still have the oven and that's why I never let Sears come near us. Also, they only come up here once a week and it's only on a Thursday. If you called on a Friday, you're gonna wait till the following Thursday to get any service.
American Home Shield has been good and the only problem we normally run into with them is getting someone that will come up here for what they're willing to pay. We live in a natural resort town. They end up telling us too, that if we can get somebody on our own, and then they have to call, and they will reimburse us. We've had that happen several times. The last time with the hot water heater, we found a company that was willing to come out and replace it. American Home Shield kept replacing the hot water heater with the same brand. It was the cheapest brand you could buy and the plumbers kept telling us that it wouldn't last.
Some of them lasted six months. Some of them lasted a year, and then water started leaking out of them. After we had one put in and it was a better quality, we've had no problem with it. So, as a last resort, I call American Home Shield. One time, I wanted to have a safety check on the furnace and thought to just call a company I knew. They came out, took a look and said our air conditioner has gone bad. They also said that the furnace was leaking, it needed to be replaced and we had to shut off the propane that goes to it. They said they would replace them for $5,600 and I said no.
The last time I called American Home Shield, they sent a guy out. He looked over the whole unit and he was washy about the camera. He didn't have a camera to check, but he said it was fine, that he would turn it back on. He said there was no carbon monoxide coming out and that’s all I wanted to be sure of. Now, we’re waiting to see who’s telling the truth.

A long time ago, there was a time when American Home Shield said we should have done this and that and they didn't pay for our claim. Recently, my husband called in a claim for our air conditioner to American Home Shield. They sent Service One Air to our place and the tech told my husband that we needed some part that was causing our unit not to cool. They replaced that part in the next day or two. My husband told me that the techs who came were very professional. So far, we've had a few claims with Home Shield and their coverage has been okay.

I really liked Sweeney Plumbing Systems. They were great. The young man who came out was very polite, professional and helpful. He went out of his way to make sure that our problem was resolved and he did a really good job. We were having an odor in the bathroom from the faucet and I had called somebody before for that but they wouldn't even touch it. This young man just did it and was very personable with my husband and me. He took the faucet apart and cleaned it out, and that seemed to resolve the issue. I really liked him. Sweeney is a really good company. I even kept their number just in case.
But when American Home Shield couldn't find somebody initially, after the second or third time, which was even a long time, they should have let me find somebody. They didn't give me that option. They just kept calling and calling all these companies and I kept getting all these emails that so and so is gonna be showing up. Then I would call and ask if they were coming and they would say they didn't work this area. It was a mess. I got really upset about it. I just about canceled. But Sweeney came out finally and they were so good.
Normally, it's a tedious process, what American Home Shield has to do to get somebody. Then after one or two tries, they come back and say, "Hey, you find somebody," then I have to go find somebody. And that's difficult because we live in this weird little area. Also, one of the people who answered my phone and took my initial complaint did not speak good English. I don't know what country they lived in. I'm also hard of hearing so it was difficult. The person did not understand when I told him I only have one bathroom. He wanted to know if the bathroom was in the house or not. I was kinda shocked by that. Then I got other people who spoke good English. That wasn't a problem. The claim just was not resolved in a timely manner at all. I called some time in May and it was well into June before it was resolved. It’s the worst service I've had with Home Shield ever. But I've never had an issue like this and it's our third year with them.

Georgie, the gentleman who came for my plumbing issue, was very good. He explained things to me and was personable and professional. I have no complaints. Something was stuck in the garbage disposal in the sink. He took it out, reset it, made some other adjustments and it's now working fine. I also had to replace my central air conditioning last year. I had no complaints as well. The nominal fee that was charged for the service visit was great.
AHS has provided me with very good service. In terms of the level of response, you get an email and a call from the contractor to say, "Expect me on such and so time." Sometimes, they are a little before, depending on the job, and then the follow-up that you get, the professionalism shown and the genuine interest to me are commendable. I have had no negative experience with the contractors today. AHS is a great investment. I'm spreading the word within my family that it is an excellent service to have. I'm very satisfied that I was encouraged to take this kind of coverage out, and I have no regrets at all. American Home Shield coverage is really a bang for your buck. I really appreciate having it.

May Heating and Air came out and they did a pretty good job on our AC issue. But I have had a lot of difficulties with American Home Shield. I had a claim a few months ago and they sent Hardy Plumbing. They came and they were supposed to come back and finish fixing the drain stop in my bathroom. My husband called three times and I've called him four times. The last person that I talked to from AHS was Jess three weeks ago and I said that I didn't want Hardy Plumbing coming to my house because we had called them seven times and they kept telling us that they were coming to finish the job but they hadn't. I've paid my $100 deductible and I haven't gotten the job done. The rep said that they were gonna try them once more and if they didn't come, they would follow up on it and get someone else.
I've had them AHS for about three years and I've never had an experience like this before. We didn't have a whole lot of problems with Hardy Plumbing before. But this time it's like something is falling apart. AHS should follow up on the work orders and make sure that they. should do something if someone has already paid and complains about a contractor. I'm getting ready to cancel them because I still haven't heard back from them on this.

American Home Shield sent G & L for our dishwasher. I have to test it now and I am sometimes having problems closing the door and it locking and staying that way. But I don't know if I'm putting too much in. I haven't called back because it seems like if it's empty, it’s easy to close. But if I have dishes in there, it won’t stay locked until I kind of push it a couple of times. Other than that, the service was great. The gentleman that came to provide the service was very professional, timely, and gave us some good advice on what type of cleaning solutions to use for the dishwasher to make it work more efficiently. I like American Home Shield's timely service. Any time I put in a claim, it seems they respond fairly quickly. Everything was great when the techs got here for the washing machine that had a broken door on it. Repairs come up right when you're not ready for them and having American Home Shield gives me peace of mind. They're great. I'm gonna look beyond all of the communication issues because of COVID. It was really hard to get someone live and I had to end up going through a real estate representative for American Home Shield just to be able to talk to someone in person to make sure that the claims were being handled the way I was told they were being handled. That is more of an anomaly of literally being on hold for an hour then talking to someone in Trinidad that has no control over anything. I have phone numbers of people locally that have backdoor phone numbers for American Home Shield so it could get done, but that's me. I figured out the workaround but that's not like the everyday consumer who might be really frustrated.

There was no hot water in my shower. I had a mixing valve that was broken. This was one of the quickest services I'd ever had as far as response time. Anywhere Plumbing called me before I even had a chance to call them and they set up an appointment. The only problem I had was that I noticed a leak in the shower about five days later, and so I called them back, and again, bang! As soon as I left the message, they came out again. As it turned out, when the guy replaced the valve, he didn't replace one of the washers that was leaking. Once he fixed that, it was 100% done. I liked the speed that they called me back and that they were very flexible. Many times, the repairmen have ridiculous kind of hours, like they only can come between 8:00 and 12:00. This company narrow down like they can do 10:00 12:00, 12:00 to 2:00, 2:00 to 4:00, and so it gave me more flexibility as a working person.

I turned my air conditioning on for the summer for the first time and it wasn't having any air come through the vents. I kept the fan on high and I got something that way, but that was the extent of it. I called American Home Shield and they had somebody come out. Then American Home Shield realized that the particular company they sent out didn't take care of my model. So, they searched and they found Chesapeake Comfort. The way Chesapeake Comfort handled our AC issue was fantastic. Their technician looked at it and he said that he needed a part which he got within about a week or so. He said it would take a little longer because of the particular model that I got. They got it done and I paid for Freon and whatever their visit was. And I love it.
American Home Shield was great. It was such a good experience that I told my neighbor. When going in and getting something like a warranty for your stuff, you're putting that money out. I didn't mind $50 a month but I did feel like I was taking a risk because I didn't know exactly what they would cover when the time came if I didn't do something. So, when something happened, they showed me that they stood up to what they said they would do. I really value that, especially these days 'cause I don't get that everywhere.

However, he had to call Home Shield and blast the company how bad the service is. Since we bought the home, we've had bad experiences with customer service, with the people that assess the claims and with the long holds that we had to wait on. Home Shield is not an insurance company that I would recommend at this point. Things have gotten fixed, but it has been with pressure where my Realtor had to call and argue with the main company. But for it to actually come from Home Shield, it hasn't been there. It was a bit of a headache.

The only thing that I don't have right now is the centerpiece in the sink that prevents the water. I don't have functionality of my sink because they removed it and said that it was not operational. I had a water heater that wasn't staying lit. I originally submitted a claim online and the American Home Shield website was fine. I actually much prefer just going online, doing it, and handling it myself. American Home Shield sent out Emergency Plumbing & Rooter. The guy came out and said the water heater was malfunctioning. He relit it and said he was not sure how long it was gonna stay lit then left. Less than a week later, it didn't stay lit so I called at that time and reopened the same claim. American Home Shield sent out the same service. They suggested that the water heater be replaced, which it was. But I have a very old home and the water heater wasn't originally installed up to code. I had to pay out of pocket for whatever needed to be installed properly.
I'm new to American Home Shield, but so far, so good. They responded quickly and I got it all done. I didn't like that I had to pay such a huge out of pocket, but I understand it wasn't a simple replacement and that the house is 100 years old. The very first time a guy came out, I was not happy with their service. I don't think the guy communicated very well and he said the unit was not installed correctly. But the unit had never gone out before and it looked new. He said it wasn't really old. I was under the assumption that water heaters last forever because that's what I grew up with. When he told me it was how many years old, I thought that was still new. But it was at its lifespan. That's my ignorance but now I understand they don't last forever.
The second time the contractor came out, I was exceptionally happy. Those two guys who came out to install the new water heater were absolutely great. The unit's been functioning perfectly since. I'm very satisfied. I keep the contractor's card on file in case I ever have anything. I was really happy with them. The whole thing about the water heater going out was a real pain. But when the contractor came out to reinstall it, everything was great. They did it quickly. The unit was in my basement so they had to bring the old heater up from there. They had to drain it up through my laundry room and drain it outside so everything was clean when they left.

The unit was not coming on. I could go out and I can hit the top of it. There's a switch that wasn't connecting, and it would come on and run for a little while, then it would do it again. When it got to the point that I couldn't get it to come on, I went through the internet to file a claim one afternoon, and the website was fine. They sent me an email that evening that said that they had contacted Kingdom and they would be coming up the next morning. Both of the guys that came did a good job. I didn't realize it until they showed up, but it ended up that I knew them. The motor was also making a lot of noise. One of the guys got permission through the warranty to go ahead and replace the motor on the fan on the outside unit. He came back, replaced that, and it has been working well since then. I'd recommend American Home Shield. In fact, I've told people about it already.

During Christmas time, I was having issues with the house staying hot and my AC was a two to two and a half year old unit. I had a technician come out, and they said that the compressor had completely went out in the AC unit. I even had a second opinion. I had American Home Shield send out another tech from another company. They said the same thing, but granted a couple months before that, they never foresaw any type of issues with the compressor potentially going out in that unit. I found that to be very odd for a two year old unit for the compressor to go out. They never explained to me. They pushed that everything is covered. I pay my one fee per month and as long as the AC unit is not 100% broken, they will go ahead and replace the parts.
What they don't tell you is they don't replace the Freon that goes into the unit. American Home Shield needs to specify and reiterate that to other homeowners. I have three kids and I had to cough up $700 during the holidays. I wasn't too pleased about that. It would also definitely work if American Home Shield was more flexible with people's schedules. Recently, I had Matt's Plumbing Services come out and they did exactly what I put in my work order. It was plumbing issues related in my sink and my toilet, and they did a good job. However, the service was not when my availability was but more of when the business was available.

The service from Sean Electrical Mechanical was great. The guy showed up on time. He was very friendly and cleaned up after the work was done, which was kind of a mess because we have plaster walls. That was a pain in the butt to clean up. The lights were fixed and we didn't have any issues. This is my third year with American Home Shield and I like the service. What I did not like is last year, there was a price increase and they didn't notify people. It went from 60-something to 90-something so it was a significant jump. I got surprised when it was my renewal time. It would've been a good heads-up to say they were increasing the price. If I probably had more time, I might've shopped around for another home warranty.

I had Home Shield before and I felt that that was too expensive. I tried two other companies, the last of which was, "If I get my hands on you, you'll be dead." What happened was, my refrigerator stopped working. The motor died. It was on a holiday weekend and it was dead. Aside from everything else going on, the rep said, "Well, I can't get anybody there now." And then finally, he got somebody here but they said it couldn't be fixed. It needed to be replaced. He didn't call me, so I called them and said, “Are you gonna get it replaced or how does it work?" "Oh, no. We'll have a meeting and decide how much we're gonna allow for it."
I said, "Excuse me?" He said, "Well, we prorate it." I said, “Prorate what? You're supposed to replace it if you can't fix it." "No, that's not how we work." So, he sent me a check and it was a big double French door Maytag with a freezer at the bottom. And he sent me a check. And then he had the nerve to call me up. I was less than pleased. I said I would stop playing with these nickel-and-dime places because I know Home Shield does actually replace things if they go. Equal to equal. Just recently, Home Shield sent out CNJ Services and it was wonderful. Because of the COVID virus, the tech was appropriately dressed. He was knowledgeable and everything went very well. He replaced the valve. Everything is working fine.

The electric company has been out twice. My husband called them out because we were having issues with our electricity going off in half of the house. We were having electricity problems once or twice every day. The contractor gave us a time frame the day of on when they would be there and texted when they were on their way. It was very wonderful. They were professional, efficient and quick both times. They were helpful on follow-up if we still had issues. The first time, they did not solve the problem and the second time, my husband said it hasn't gone out again in that half of house and that was a week or two ago since they came.

The AC claim went very well. The young man from Express Heating and Air Conditioning was very informative. I told him about the noise with the capacitor and he checked that because I told him that's what Express had changed out a couple of years ago. When I heard the roaring sound, I didn’t know if the AC was going out and this is summertime. I didn’t want it to go out. He said sometimes these things happen but he checked everything out and it looked good. He said that he couldn't find anything but if the sound would come again, to call him back. He did good. He fixed everything. He even told me that I need to get it checked twice a year and gave me some advice how to keep it going. He was very knowledgeable when he gave me information and he talked to me.
But the service with my microwave is still not done. The young man who came and serviced that told me he was ordering a part. The part was supposed to come here but then I got something about my service being complete. Then he came back and said he wasn’t servicing it. I've come to find out that the plug to the microwave was burning and I need to call him about that because I think I got an electrical on my microwave. I can’t even plug the microwave in because of the socket. He didn’t even look to see about the plug and he's supposed to be the appliance expert.
I also asked why he would have a plug shipped to me. It should have been shipped to him and he should have brought it back. I'm not pleased with that at all. Then the young man who checked the hood had taken everything out and said he had checked everything. He said he did hear the noise but that there was nothing he could unless it goes out. So that’s where that is. But the others did well. When I was having problems with fruit flies, the plumber said the source was the garbage disposal and he changed that. He did good.

I chose AHS because I have a friend that has a home here in Pennsylvania and one in Arizona as well. He used them and he has good experiences with them. However, when I had a problem with my water heater, and the contractors came out for that, it was a little confusing. I talked to a gentleman twice about it. The pressure relief valve on the water heater itself was leaking.
When the serviceman was out here, they determined that the pressure reducing valve coming in from the street was the issue. They replaced that at no charge, but they would not replace the valve on the water heater, which didn't make a lot of sense to me. 'Cause they said if the water heater itself was leaking, they would pay to replace the full water heater, but not a part on the water heater. But everything went well with my recent claim with AHS. I did the online service request thing Sunday night, and Monday afternoon there was a serviceman here for the dryer. Then, he replaced the heating element, the thermostat, and it's been working fine.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day

I called AHS to come out and look at it and see what was going on with it. Apparently, it was leaking. The leak couldn't be repaired, so they said I was gonna need a new one because they couldn’t fix the leak. It seems to be working okay now. There are no leaks. We got all the water dried up off the floor too. I appreciate American Home Shield and they came through with what they promised to do and I'm pretty happy with them.

I've had a couple phone calls and their contractors have been out to see us a few times, and so far, so good. I'm happy with what I've experienced. It had an annual service on the unit of our AC and everything was good with MVP. I didn't have any issues with them. The guy did do a service update on it. He gave me an idea that I should call up my electric company so I’m trying to follow-up on what he recommended. I tried to call American Home Shield a couple times last week to get the information on what the technician recommended, but I haven’t been able to get through. When I call, I'm on hold for a very long time so I gave up.

The compressor blew and the coils were a big mess. They said that it could all be repaired. But to repair one was gonna be $1300 for a clean-up to bring it up to standard, and the other time to fix the coils is gonna be 1800 to bring it all up to standard. So I opted to buy a new AC unit and they didn't help at all. Everything is fine with AHS, except the air conditioning units. The repair is covered but you'd have to bring your air conditioning unit up to code and that's the expensive part and they don't cover that. It is written in a teeny-tiny print. They need to disclose that when you purchase the warranty.

Our AC was running but it was not working well. The air was flowing but the AC chiller was not working. It was blowing outside air into the house. Tru-Way figured out that it was caused by a leak in the air conditioner coils. They put a leak detection fluid into the air conditioning system and a week later, they came back to see where the leaks were. They determined that the best course of action was to refill it with fluid. They replaced the refrigerant liquid in the coils and ever since they did that, it has been working well. Both times that Tru-Way came out, they were exactly on time. They were very courteous, and it was a simple straightforward process. I would absolutely recommend these guys.

People shouldn't buy a home without an American Home Shield Warranty. I have one and so far, I've had an excellent experience. There was a time when one of my burners would stay sparking and it would just click and click even after it's lit. Another burner wouldn't click at all. I submitted a claim to AHS and their tech from Stephen's Appliance came and looked at our burners. I gave the tech the code to get into my place without me being there and they found my burner's problem. The tech called me and told me that they were gonna order a part. A week later he called again and I gave him a code once more. I got home an hour after that and the tech was bolting back down. Everything has been wonderful since then.
Previously though, I had somebody come out to look at my air conditioner and I didn't like them. They didn't diagnose the issue properly. I called AHS to complain and their reps told me that Affordable Heating & Cooling would come to my place within a certain timeframe. I liked that contractor of theirs the best. Overall, service with American Home Shield is great. I've been in the house for 19 years, so that's how long I've had the account with them. Submitting claims is easy. Recently, Climate Masters came out for an AC issue. The gentlemen said that the handler at my circuit breaker wasn't on. Unfortunately, it was an unnecessary visit which cost me $75 'cause all I had to do was to flip the switch in the circuit breaker.
American Home Shield has some contractors that do their job and some that don't. It was a matter of you having to file a complaint or calling back. I was very disappointed when they got rid of BlueDot because they were on point. I don't have a problem with the prices going up because I understand the economy but they could improve on their deductible coverage. I've noticed that I could have something in my kitchen that's wrong and that's one deductible versus something in my laundry room which is another totally different deductible. It used to be that one deductible.

I had water under my sink coming from a leaky pipe and I analyzed it to be my garbage disposal because I live with it. When the rep from 1st American Plumbing came in, he said that everything down there was dry. I said that if he would fill that sink or this pan full of water, dump it all out at once and click on the garbage disposal, he would have water everywhere. And he did. He said we needed a garbage disposal and he ran out to the truck and got one. He came back in, put it in and left. He did a great job for me.
I don't monkey around with calling American Home Shield to submit a claim because that's wasted effort. I just go online and click what I need to click and it gives me the choice. I said leaky pipe and then, they sent me a text and told me what company they were gonna send. They have sent that company to me before and so, I went online and checked them again to make sure. They didn't have any outrageously bad things so, that was fine. The rep did as I asked him and pulled into the driveway in the back because walking through the garage in the laundry room and then into my kitchen is easier than coming through the front door and the rest of the house. I saw he had a mask on and he had gloves on as well so, I was pleased.
I am happy with AHS and I have recommended them. My friend that I recommended them to lives in Oklahoma City and she did not have a good experience with them. Years have gone by and I didn't have a great experience with them on air conditioning too. But I eventually worked around it and got my own guy to fix it. American Home Shield sent me a check. They're fair. They tried to save the washer and sent two different kinds of repair companies. Then, they sent a second opinion company. Finally, I told them that I have a caregiver for my husband and I have to have a washer. It's too dangerous for me to go out to the laundromat. So, they sent me a text that night and asked me to select a washer and I did. Then, I had my son check it out for me to make sure I wasn't doing something stupid and he blessed it. He said it would fit in the laundry room and encouraged me to go ahead and place my order, and so I did.
The washer came and they put it in. That was a couple of months ago and I have no complaints about American Home Shield. I've had things fixed periodically, and I'm gonna go up and request repairs to our ceiling fan in the family room because it makes a lot of noise. I figured give them a stab at it. I am a woman who has to take care of her home because my husband has dementia and so, I need them.

I've been an American Home Shield customer since 2014, and usually don't have any trouble, but in trying to discuss an issue with my very old A/C unit over the phone, I was met with condescension by a customer service rep who consistently interrupted and misunderstood me. This, after waiting for an hour just to speak to someone. I understand that this is a holiday and there's a global pandemic happening, so I expected the wait time. Still, I've been trying to contact someone with AHS for weeks, and it's been difficult every day; today was the only day I had time to sit around on hold for so long. It seems like you can only get any action if you first shell out $75. But I wanted to talk to something.
My old A/C unit is low on Freon, a substance that is being phased out because it's environmentally toxic and has been outlawed. When I tried to explain this to the AHS customer service rep I finally got through to, he kept interrupting me telling me that I was wrong. He says that he's been filling lots of work orders to have Freon put in A/C units. He wasn't interested in listening to my explanation and I eventually got so frustrated I told him I needed to hang up. Each time I tried to clarify something he'd misunderstood, he would interrupt me and tell me to stop interrupting him and let him speak. It was very frustrating. And I didn't get any further in fixing my A/C--which is completely dead.
More background: I'd had A2Z Heating and Plumbing out to service my A/C several weeks ago. It was just a regular seasonal checkup, so I didn't go through AHS. A2Z is the company that AHS calls when there have been issues with my heating and A/C in the past, though. The A2Z person who checked my A/C said that the freon was low and that since the beginning of 2020 the U.S. was no longer manufacturing or importing the substance. He suggested I get a new A/C because mine wasn't cooling efficiently anymore and would eventually die.
I tried calling AHS several times, since it seemed like I could make a legitimate claim to have my A/C replaced. This is why I have been paying for this insurance, right? Instead, I kept meeting long wait times until this week when my A/C pretty much died completely. Then, I tried explaining all this to the AHS customer service which, as I described above, didn't go very well. I feel that if they don't have the background information, if I just make a service request, they're going to try to put a band aid on my A/C and maybe even try to put more freon in my dying environmentally unsound unit so that they can avoid paying out a legitimate claim for a new unit.
