My AC's drain wasn't working. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they sent All South AC. The tech who came fixed the problem quickly and easily then he was on his way. He was very clean and polite. So far, the AC is still working fine. I like having AHS for my peace of mind. As a realtor, I recommend them all the time.
Thanks for letting us know how everything worked out for you and thanks for recommending us. We look forward to helping you in the future. Take Care.

We have two central units and the blower on one of them stopped working. We called the number that we had on our paperwork from when we bought the house and American Home Shield did the processing from there. They said they were gonna get ahold of their contractor and forward the request to them. At the time that we had called and started to let them know that we needed something serviced, we didn't get a timeframe. A day or two later, we ended up getting a call from the contractor.
A tech with Climate Experts came out and had looked at the central unit. While he was testing it, the transformer went bad. It was going bad anyway and I had noticed that it was smoking a little bit so I disconnected the power. He said that he was able to rewire the board and everything to get the fan motor working and replaced a few components.
He was great. I'm an industrial technician, so I was trying to help him figure out what was wrong with the unit and was working with him. He was very knowledgeable. He said that the smart valve on my heater has gone bad and that's what was causing my short-circuiting in my electrical system for the fan. He told me he could wire around that. Since it's hot, we're not gonna use the heater but he said we're gonna need to replace the furnace come time to use the heater and replace the central unit.
He said that we would be fine right now waiting until it would be time to need the heater and then we would need to call back again and have them try and set something up to get the furnace replaced. He also told us what kind of financial impact we could expect from our part like fees and charges for what the warranty wouldn't cover. Now, we can at least prepare for that.
Experience-wise, it was really easy. And it really wasn't slow. It would've been cool if we'd have at least gotten some kinda notice that it may be a day or two before the contractor called us. But from that point of us filing the claim, we really didn't have a lot more contact with American Home Shield until after the tech had come and I had my ratings and review email that I got for him for how the service call went. Our warranty would expire at the end of the year and we're planning on signing a new contract to extend the warranty.
Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

The ConsumerAffairs dept of American Home Shield contacted me and provided me with excellent customer service. They directed me on the best way to proceed, which in my case was to hire an outside contractor who is certified by Sub-Zero to work on my fridge. AHS is then going to reimburse me for the cost. I would give the consumer affairs dept at AHS 5 stars.

Everything went very good with Whirlpool. It seemed to be a quite a simple fix so it was resolved easily. It was something that I probably could have done myself if I had just taken the time to look into it. I have an ongoing issue with the refrigerator though. My policy with American Home Shield allows for the unit to be replaced if it's felt to be unfixable. I called in about this refrigerator issue back in March and we're almost in August and it's still not fixed. This is my main refrigerator in the kitchen and they've been using the same contractor every time. Every time the contractor comes back, they say that they’ve figured out what it is. They replace it and it doesn't work. So then they come back and say that they will try another thing and order another part. That comes in, they replace it and it doesn't work. It's going on for months and months. I keep saying that maybe they should just call it at this point.
This last time, I called American Home Shield and I said that it has been going on too long. I need to have it replaced. They said that they would put it in another recall work order and have the contractor come back to reassess. If they feel like it can't be done, then it can't be done. So I did that. Immediately, the contractor ordered another part and so they're coming next week to install this new part. I've told the contractor and American Home Shield multiple times that they can try replacing every single piece in the unit just to try. American Home Shield says that there's nothing they can do. I called the contractor and they said that if there’s another part they can try, they're gonna try it.
The contractor thinks they can do it but they have been unsuccessful every single time they've come, which is nine times now. The only good part is that every time they come back, it's been under a recall work order which means I don't have to pay the deductible every time. I've only paid once but at the same time, it's still a long time. It's not necessarily American Home Shield’s fault. They have their own procedures and their procedure dictates that they can't replace something unless they hear from the contractor that it needs to be replaced. So, the onus is on the contractor though I've had extreme frustration dealing with both AHS and the contractor trying to get this issue resolved.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

I go online and submit request where I need a plumber or there's something wrong with the fridge or the stove. Then they'll submit something on their end and someone will call me. The contractor will come out and I'd pay my deductible. They come in and fix it. I haven't had a problem with American Home Shield in six years. I'm satisfied with them. When I had a leak somewhere in the bottom of the fridge, Legacy handled my claim real well. They had to come out a couple times because they couldn't fix it. So American Home Shield is taking care of us right now.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

One of my circuit breakers kept tripping, but it wasn’t damaged in the panel. I had had a power outage and I had a water cooler that was causing it to trip because it had shorted out. So far, there have been two issues and one was the electrical component. The guy came out and was very professional and nice. We had a Generac generator installed and because the dryer pulls so much more power than your normal outlets in the house, they had to put some kind of a transmitter on the wall that would help communicate there. If we were to lose complete power and the generator would kick in, there would be some kind of a delay to allow that power for the dryer to come into effect.
Unfortunately, the issue wasn't anything that happened in the house. It's actually a Generac component that went bad. But luckily, the guy was able to come in and say that he could bypass the whole little Generac component and that way, he could get us our dryer. The only gotcha is gonna be when we do lose power someday and the generator kicks in, we're not gonna be able to use our dryer because this component is no longer connected. But we had it done because the whole house was powered through the Generac and if we were to lose power, having a dryer is probably the least of our worries.
The other claim was for the air conditioner and it is a fairly unit. At this point, there's still a component that's not functioning properly in the AC but it's not essential for here in Florida. I guess it's primarily used for when temperatures are extremely cold. The technician said that it's not necessary and we can always order the parts. So he got our air conditioner running. He was able to change the little capacitor for the air conditioner and then somehow rewire it so that it would work and then we're all in good shape.
Knowing that something is still not working the way it's supposed to is a little bit concerning but he explained it to me and he's the expert so he must know how these things work. So if we don't have to replace that particular part then cool. I'm happy and I'm fine with it. He was a really nice gentleman. He was very kind and professional. He took care of business and since then, the air conditioner has been working perfectly fine.
As far as American Home Shield is concerned, it has worked as advertised. We made the claim through the online feature and within 24 hours, we were notified. The biggest thing that I'm really happy with right now is the communication. Both issues were taken care of expeditiously and we're able to get on to the website easily or on the answering service easily. If the company continues that, that would help a lot for us, the customers. The claims process is an easy step-by-step process that has worked so far for those two issues we've had. We've just had to pay the $100 and then whatever repair was done was covered. So those two claims have been pretty easy so far from a repair standpoint.
Thanks for sharing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

Big Kountry Appliance Repair handled my claim pretty good. They’re very professional. However, I need to call Home Shield now about my washing machine for the same problem. Once again, the spin cycle is not doing right. It would be the third time I will call for the same problem. I don't know why Home Shield couldn't just replace the washing machine because I can't keep paying that $83. Can’t they just give me another washing machine? I don’t need a washing machine that has 955 different things that it can do. I just wanna get my clothes washed and cleaned, and when it spins, does it all the way.

Something is pending and I’m very much dissatisfied with that. My refrigerator has been going back and forth since the beginning of June. There were four different contractors that came out to try to repair the refrigerator. I'm now being told that the refrigerator cannot be repaired because of whatever issues that they were having. After adding the part to the refrigerator, Home Shield realized that it will be a problem again. So, the end result was we had a new refrigerator. I’m waiting now to get a new refrigerator.
I sat on the phone for three hours to be able to speak with someone. The person that I've spoken was very well-versed and communicated with me, so I was satisfied with her. Customer service is always on point. It's just the being able to reach someone is very difficult. I made an attempt to reach someone again today to let them know which refrigerator I'm interested in getting, and probably I'll be on the phone for another three hours. I'll wait again until Monday.
I did receive a number from the tech that was here last, which when I call that, I’m able to leave my phone number and then someone calls me back throughout the day. And maybe three or more hours later, but at least someone calls back. But with their department that I need to get in contact with, me leaving a number for someone to call back is not an option. I’m able to talk to Home Shield because I've been working from home because of circumstance with the corona. But that's not something that I would normally be able to do. I had the phone on hold, and when the person came on, it was three hours and 15 minutes later. She apologized. When you're trying to get the service for the first time then a chat pops up. But I would need to log into the account to be sure. Based on the email, it indicates that you will need to call that number, and it's on Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Another thing was, the faucet moved from one side to the other. It was very urgent because it was something that is used quite often. I called and I spoke with a lady who mentioned I should expect someone to come out within 24 to 48 hours. The person who called me was within the same day, if not the next day. It was a quick turnaround. The faucet needed to be tightened, but after the tech from High Priority came out and attempted to tighten it, it didn't work. He had to replace the faucet. In addition, there was a leak on the one sink. It was a stopper that needed to be repaired, and everything was completed on that day. I was extremely happy about that. It was a big help.

The icemaker wasn't working and the technician said it needed a control head. He said he would place the order and get it taken care of. Over a week went by and then we got an email saying that they were coming out. But a different person and a different company came out. The guy said he needed to check our refrigerator. I said that they've already checked it. He said that they would have to reverify his diagnosis because the control head aws not available. So it pushed everything back.
Another week went by and we hadn't heard anything. So, my wife called and she stayed on hold for an hour and a half and she finally hung up. She posted something on the Facebook page hoping somebody would call us and then two days ago, someone did call me. She said that they couldn’t get the part and that they have been authorized to give us a refrigerator. They were gonna email me the link so we can pick out the refrigerator. It took a while but they sent us an email and my wife picked out a refrigerator. I ordered it and they said it takes about seven days to get it. But my wife was frustrated because when he left, the guy said it needed a control head. If they couldn't get the control head or they were sending out another company to verify that it was the control head because they couldn't it, they should've sent us an email. It would have been nice to have been notified.

My garbage disposal froze up and I couldn't get it to come on. It sounded like it was grinding and clicking but it wasn't working. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and their tech from Infinity Plumbing showed up. He checked out my disposal and he had to use a tool that goes underneath to reset the blades. He showed me what to do if the problem happens next time. I've been with Home Shield for 20 years now and I've called them out for appliances, my AC, heating and plumbing. We had lost air conditioning so I wanted somebody to come out and take a look at it and make sure everything was good. J & J Mechanical came out and the tech was professional. The only thing he told me was that I needed to change my pipes and put more insulation in the house. But when the house goes from 77 degrees to almost 85 degrees, then something's not working. But it's fine now. It was just a glitch in the system. I did a claim with American Home Shield about a year after we moved in. My AC wasn't working, and I called American Home Shield. The only beef I had is how long it took them to get out to my house. I filed the claim on a Tuesday and the contractor didn't get out until Friday. AHS set me up with one company that was supposed to come out, and that company called me the next day to make an appointment and told me they couldn't be out until Friday. They understood that was a long time, so they suggested I call the warranty company back, which I did. The other company that AHS hooked me up with was the same. Friday was the earliest they could get somebody out there. But when the contractors came out, they took care of the issue. It's one of my rental houses. Luckily, it wasn't anything big. It was just the thermostat was bad. They changed that thermostat out and got the system running the same day they were there, so that was good.
As far as the company themselves who came out to do the work when they were there to do the work, I would give them a very high rating. I would give the warranty company a horrible rating. I’ve had a warranty with them for over 15 years with that property. My air conditioner is the original air conditioner from when the house was built in ‘85. They've been out there about four different times to work on the air conditioner and it seems like every time they come out, it's usually a couple days before they can get someone to come out. When they do come out, I had to wait almost two weeks for a part to come in. One time, it was over two weeks that I had to wait for a part to come in. It seems ridiculous to me. I’m not happy with that warranty company but there's not a whole lot of warranty companies to choose from.
I have no qualms with Arctic Air, the contractor that came out this time. In the past, AHS had sent other companies out to do the air conditioner work, and most of those companies will put a sticker on my unit with their name and their company name and phone number. I should call my renter and have him take a picture of my unit, but I've written in marker not to use that contractor anymore. I wrote it in black magic marker. That was kinda their advertising for us to call them back. I don't have a problem with them putting a sticker on my unit. The problem was it was horrible customer service. They never stayed in contact with me to keep me abreast of what was going on with my part. I had to call the warranty company in order to get them to respond after two weeks and then they're like, “Oh, yeah. We got the part now so we’ll be out there tomorrow.”
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

For my first time using American Home Shield, the process seemed fine and it was smooth. It was all online which was super easy. But there was a problem that occurred where they pushed the service out to a company that doesn’t do that work. American Home Shield texted me and told me the company that was gonna come to do the job but I hadn’t heard back from them. It had been 24, 48 hours and I decided to just call and make the appointment. But they said they were not doing my service. They don’t do garbage disposals. They were trying to get ahold of American Home Shield to let them know.
Thank goodness I took the extra step and called. I know the process for me to even get them to call me back was like me needing to leave a message or ask them to call me. It was because they couldn't give me anything to call them back, so I was so glad. I was like, “Okay, great, ‘cause now I’m gonna handle this and I don’t have to keep waiting even longer.” American Home Shield had to find a new company. My husband said Home Shield was too good to be true. I gave it a call and it was pretty accurate of what they say on the commercials on the website. I was getting ready to just burn the AC. I was just so tired of it. We couldn’t narrow down the problem. We had to go down the list of what the A-US tech thought it was. The first was the compressor and then we got that fixed. And then, the motor fan outside kept messing up. The tech thought maybe it was a thermostat, so we changed that. Still not working, so it ended up being the fan motor. Once we got it fixed up, it has been good. We just had some 116 days and it was working. It kept its cool. A-US was very good and very knowledgeable.
Since I'm a first-time homebuyer, I've never had Home Shield before. This is a first time and it has been actually wonderful. My husband likes it. He said it was a good experience. I made a claim online one time. I know Home Shield is not supposed to charge for the same issue, which is the AC, and I got charged, but it was because instead of calling, I did it online and it's an automatic draft. That was the only issue. It's still the AC. It's not anything new. I shouldn't be charged for it. But Home Shield quickly explained to me that it was because I used the automated choice. So the next time, if it's the same issue, call instead of using the internet. Home Shield does what they say they're there for.

The repair’s been great for our recent claim. The house was on sale and somebody came here to put our water faucet back when we moved back in, and they shut off the pipe. Just when we were trying to wash clothes, the water started getting cold. I said, “The water heater’s going out.” So I called American Home Shield and it was just the water shut-off valve. I spent $75 for them put a valve back on. The contractors were very thorough, professional and courteous. Overall, when the people come out, it’s great. Since we're little people on totem pole, because we’re American Home Shield, we get it at a discount. But it takes forever for them to come out sometimes. Last time, I had my air conditioning compressor pop out and it was in the middle of summer last year. I had to wait for the part and it was crazy. If I was a regular customer, I’d be first in line.
The reason why they came in earlier than I requested with my recent claim, was there was a cancellation on an appointment. They were supposed to come in on Thursday, but they came on Tuesday, which was great, but I understand that's part of this whole thing. If they ask me if that could be improved on, it’ll be great. That's the only complaint I have for American Home Shield. I've been working with them for a while and I gotta renew it after September. I would recommend AHS ‘cause they have a great price.

Everything has been great and very quick with American Home Shield. The online platform is really easy to use, which is nice for putting a claim. So far, compared to my last warranty service, the claims have been answered faster and I like the vendors that have come out better. Sunbright Pool Services was great and very helpful. The gentleman that came wore a mask. He answered all of our questions and helped solve the issue.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

We had an issue with our Coastal microwave. Coastal Appliance came when they were supposed to and had everything that was needed to repair it. They didn't have to go off and order parts and come back two weeks. The guy took care of it right away. Then I've had some previous calls that weren't good like the dishwasher. The AHS contractor came back three times ‘cause every time they replaced it, it turned out that wasn't what needed to be replaced. In the end, it turned bad because they wound up replacing all the components. It was practically a brand new dishwasher now but it took a while.

My first claim with AHS was for the HVAC. I made a phone call and they charged a $75 deductible. Rick Matthews HVAC reached out to me and they were here within four days. For the start of the air conditioning season, that was perfectly acceptable. And their service was great. They got the issue taken care of and they were very thorough.

American Home Shield was advertised on Fox one day and I thought, “Why not waste a little more money on more insurance?" So, we got it. The AC wasn’t coming on and my wife thought it smelled funny that night. I didn’t think anything of it but when I got up the next morning, it was 76 degrees inside the house. I went outside and the air conditioning compressor was just humming. I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield and the website was simple to navigate. It said that I would be contacted within a certain number of hours. Douglas Mechanical was good and they responded quickly. It was getting warm but they replaced the capacitor and took care of us. That was our first experience using it and I'm happy about it. I recommended one of my cousins to look into it.
Thanks for letting us know how everything worked out for you and thanks for recommending us. We look forward to helping you in the future. Take Care.

We have security with American Home Shield. If everything goes out, it's fine because we have them. Recently, our AC was struggling to keep our place cool. Whenever it would really hot like when it's up to 90 degrees, it would struggle to get below 76 even though the thermostat is set at 72. AHS sent Air 72 to handle the issue. My unit was frozen so the techs had to come back. The guy turned the whole system off and waited until it thawed out. He came back and got the job done. We're happy with the service. Having AHS's warranty is so much better than paying for a new unit.

We were all night and all day at 118 degrees but what I'm aggravated about is it took the guy about 15 minutes to diagnose the problem and put a new capacitor in it, and American Home Shield charged me $100 for it. I didn't know I had a deductible to pay to have services come out. I thought I pay the insurance and if something went wrong, they'd fix it. They had charged me money for something that caused them about 40 bucks between the capacitor and 15 minutes it took the guy to fix it and put the new capacitor in. I filled out a review form and I got an email back from them on that but that was the end of it. But they've done good as far the guy coming out and fixing it.

The process of AHS is very simple. Recently, I had to have Myers Comfort Specialist come out twice for an AC issue. It wasn't a big deal though. It was just there was an overflow trip valve and he fixed it. But then the next day, it happened again. I just made another appointment and he came back out and fixed it again. I haven't had any problems with them.

I opened a ticket with American Home Shield (AHS) on 7/17/2020. AHS auto assigned multiple vendors which did not service the brand of stove covered under the policy. I was told to go resource a vendor and given an auth code. They stated they would send me a step by step form that I must follow to not use their vendor. This form never was sent to me.
I called the morning before the vendor shows up to ask what steps do I need to take. After a hour and a half a representative tells me to call a different number. I wait for two hours only to be told I need to have the vendor call the authorization approval number. By now the has done the diagnosis and left as we has already waited 2 hours for this auth. I stayed on the line for another hour to have the AHS rep tell me she can't take info from me only the vendor. So 5 hours of hold the stove is not fixed, no auth, and I am still on hold. This is the worst customer experience ever. This is a poorly run company that is not customer focused. Ask your Realtor or Title company for an alternate choice.

We never hear from anyone. I left several messages for the professional on contact info provided by AHS and never received any callbacks. We ended up paying out of pocket for our electrical emergency.
We filed another claim for our microwave. Took them a week to come out, then we were advised parts had to be ordered and they would be shipped to me. It's been a month without my microwave and I have yet to get parts or follow up calls from them. Extremely long wait times, I get reps after 45 plus minutes and don't get any answers that's worth waiting for!! The worse company ever!! I will be dropping them soon!!

The gentleman that they sent over was excellent. My water heater was old, so they replaced it. I had a claim for my air conditioner and the contractor scheduled me for Monday because they had to order it. But they found a slot in Saturday and they replaced it on that day. But I've had situations with American Home Shield that nobody came.
About a year and a half ago, I had to call the Arizona Regional Manager for American Home Shield because I have a daughter that was disabled and my air conditioner went out, and the contractor came and fixed it. But they kept charging me $75 for something that never got fixed. We had to pay $75 three times, plus whatever expense I had to pay to get it fixed. I was so upset. So there were some situations that they were not the best person to talk to. But because of the rep, we were able to get somebody outside of American Home Shield to come and fix my air conditioner. It took over a week. My air conditioner went out yesterday and I'm waiting for somebody to be here around noon. I gotta give the tech at least 24 hours.

My family has been dealing with AHS for over 30 years. The customer service has deteriorated completely. The contractors they deal with are unprofessional and seem to dislike working with AHS clients. Today AHS took the $75 service fee from my 96-year-old mother and their hand-picked contractor provided no service for her leaking air conditioning unit. First, the contractor claimed that when he knocked on the door, no one answered. This was untrue. Secondly, he refused to go up on the roof and examine the air conditioning unit, claiming that a ladder had to be affixed. This has never been an issue before, and futhermore, is not allowed by their homeowners association. When my family tried to follow up and reach AHS by phone to find out why, (there is no other way to register a concern), there is over hour of waiting time to speak to someone. This is unacceptable service and a very unkind way to treat an elderly person.

But come find out, Jody Millard is the same as Certified. Maybe they changed names but they have always been professional. They have always come right out and took care of my problem. I just prefer them to come out because they know about my air conditioner. They have come out several times. A lot of times, people don't want anybody. When I found that Jody Millard was the same as Certified, I was comfortable with that.
Recently, the AC wasn't cooling in the main unit on the outside. It wasn't turning. When Jody Millar went in, something had bent. It wasn't making a connection. They replaced it. But it took them a little while this time and it was simply because it was so hot, there was a lot of people that air had gone out, so I understood that. But they gave me a schedule of from 3:00 to 7:00 and they were out here prior to 3 o'clock, so they didn't wait until 7:00. They have always been very good, very professional and tell me exactly what's wrong, fix it in, and what to do. The two guys that came out always come together. They are very professional and very friendly. I love them.

I have two units in the house and one of the units wasn't cooling enough. American Home Shield sent the guy from Phil's Good AC & Heating. When he got ready to leave, he said, "You got a leak somewhere. I have to put some information in to Home Shield about the leak but I did give you some freon so that it will cool off." It was a couple of days that I hadn't heard anything back from Home Shield. I called them to get some information on where were we at, what I needed to get done, and when we were gonna get it put in. That took a little bit. The kid I spoke to on that particular day had said that the information was mailed to me but I couldn't get it emailed to me.
After we got that cleared, he said that I could contact Phil's Good and they gave me the information. We talked about it and scheduled a day for them to come out and fix it. They did a fantastic job with getting it fixed. It's running well and I don't have any issues. We kinda used Home Shield a little bit. We also had them in our previous house for 13 years. I wish the documents that they prepare to send to the folks' home to say what's going on with their house could be emailed. They mail it but I'm not sure why they couldn't email it also if requested by the customer. That would be the only thing. Everything else is fine and I'm satisfied with Home Shield.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

The air conditioner was leaking in the attic and water came through the ceiling. I called American Home Shield and they told me who the contractor was and that they will be calling to set up an appointment. E & A Mechanical sent someone out to look at it and determined that nothing was under warranty. The guy came and he looked at it and he said it was clogged, but he couldn't clear the drain because he didn't have room to get in there to do it and that this was an appointment to see what was wrong and take pictures, and to see if it was under warranty, and that they'd have to schedule another appointment to come out and fix the problem. Then I got a call from American Home Shield that said that my problem has been resolved and that the contractor said they cleared the line and none of the stuff was under warranty.
The answering machine recorded the lady that left me a message and said, "Your claim has been resolved. The contractor completed the work." I called them back and finally got someone on the phone and they said that was not what they said. I said that it was and I have the voice recording if they wanna hear it. Then the rep said the person should've never said that. They claimed that it was just a big misunderstanding. I told them that the tech never cleared the line. He couldn't even test to see if the line was really clogged. The machine was too tight and he didn't wanna blow the water. He didn't have space to blow the water out to the drain and he didn't want to blow it into the box, so he was gonna have to come back.
I got a second opinion from another air conditioning guy that came out and he determined the same issue. But he said he couldn't do anything because he was only a second opinion. He was only allowed to take pictures and give an opinion on what it was, but he couldn't do any work. American Home Shield doesn't allow them to do any work. They just come out and document what they see and if it's the same or a different situation. Then American Home Shield called me and said that the second company said the same thing. They said it was not a claim and asked me if I would like for one of them to come out. I told them no and that I called a different air conditioning company that came out and fixed it in about 20 minutes.
I had American Home Shield 10 years ago when I bought my old house and we had something similar happen. It was the furnace and they wouldn't cover it. They said it was not a warranty issue. So my experience with them has not been great. But I've heard mixed reviews too. So I'm gonna keep them for a little bit just to make sure.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

I like American Home Shield. They were good and we've never had any problems. I've had them maybe a year and a half at this location. We also had them previously at a house we owned before for quite a few years. It was really easy doing my claim online. But I had an issue where I ended up having to call American Home Shield and get the initial company assigned to us switched to Cutting Edge. It was because I couldn't get in contact with the people that American Home Shield initially picked. A company not contacting you is probably not a good thing. But I can understand the circumstances. It's COVID. People are working from home and there are not that many people to work.
In order for me to call American Home Shield and speak to a live agent, I stayed on hold for an hour. It was a lot. I was at work. Luckily, we didn't have anything to do and I put them on speakerphone. American Home Shield changed the contractor to the Cutting Edge people and they were awesome. They came out to fix our air conditioning. I would recommend them 100%. Their tech was very respectful and I liked his manners. Manners are very important to me. I thanked him and told him he had been so nice. He was fast too. He was here like 10, 15 minutes to fix the problem and was gone.

When I was talking to AHS about my dryer, I told them "I bet you guys are glad you don't cover plumbing". The rep then told me that my policy covers that. Most recently, my high-rise toilet wouldn't flush. I called in the issue to American Home Shield. AHS sent Mounts Plumbing and Construction and they replaced my toilet with one that is down load. Submitting a claim is quick and easy. I just pay for it and American Home Shield schedules it. That has been good. American Home Shield is also doing a good job as far as making sure that we get our repair people out quickly. The only thing I wish they would do a little bit better is really get on top of those companies that keep coming out for the same problem. For the refrigerator claim that I did, the company came out four times and it was the same problem over and over again.
We had been told that if they came out on the third time, they should have just replaced the refrigerator but they didn't. I still have the same unit and this time, it's cooling but it's overcooling. We now have a leak inside the door icemaker that is freezing up everything, staying open and dropping ice at random. On the other hand, when Elite Heating & Air Conditioning came out, they did a good job. The technician knew what he was doing and he finished it off really quickly. He told us what was going on and off he went.

When I make claims to American Home Shield, I go through the automated system but sometimes, I speak to a representative. Both would give me a name and a phone number. For the electrician, I talked to someone and I was given the name of the company. They said that I could give them a call if I wanted to but they would respond to me within the proper time. So. I just gave them a call and they set it up for me.
DT Electric came out because I had some problems with my electric system. This was the first time I've seen electricians at AHS but they seemed very efficient and they took care of the problem. The switch was kicking on and off. They changed the plug in the bedroom and that right there was supposed to take care of the problem on that side of the house. Normally, when they come out, they would check everything to make sure everything is right but I said that I didn’t have any problems on the other side of the house there so, they didn't.
I had a plumber come in and after he put the garbage disposal in and flipped the switch in the breaker, he said that I have an electrical problem. I said that I would call the electrician back since I still got a warranty there. So the electrician came back out, looked at it and he said that it was not an electrical problem but a plumbing problem. I asked if I have to call the plumber back and he said he would take care of it because it was just a simple wire that needs to be moved off the other wire. So, that's what he did and he knocked it out. It was a done deal. He was fantastic, in and out quick, and was very efficient. So, I will use them all the time. There was no problem at all.
I don’t understand the plumber though because he had worked here before under American Home Shield and he seemed very efficient. On that day, he came to repair the handle on the faucet. He said it was loose and he tightened it up. But every three to four days, I have to re-tighten it. My wife is saying that it wasn’t right but I gotta live with it. I'll just tighten up every three days or so.

Part of American Home Shield's program is if they can't fix something, they would replace it. They're very good about it. But the term "replace what you have" isn't quite true. They'll replace you with something of similar quality but not a similar fit and finish. If you have a roughly high-quality Maytag dishwasher like ours that failed a number of years ago, they would be willing replace it with a similar quality dishwasher. But they had, which seems to be typical for them, exactly one choice. You could have it and you could have it in white. They didn't seem to care that your entire kitchen was stainless or something else.
It was no better quality. The standard finish is white, stainless or black and all they had was white. We wanted stainless because everything else like our stove and refrigerator was stainless. We didn't want this white blob in the middle of our kitchen. We ended up taking their check which was for a couple of hundred dollars and we bought a unit which ended up being $600 or $700. The money they gave us was what they would have paid for the unit but it wasn’t what its retail was by quite a bit. They said that if we wanted to buy something else, they would just give us a check and we can do that. But they kind of force you into that option by not giving you something that actually replaces what you had like if it was black or stainless or something common. They don't have a similar choice. You can get a similar quality but it was just whatever they happened to have in stock.
We paid the additional out-of-pocket and we got what we wanted. It cost us about another $500 over what they were willing to give us. That was kind of tacky. They say we could take the money then upgrade it any way we wanted. But we didn't want it upgraded. We just wanted to replace the unit that we had. It didn't have to even be the same brand but the same quality and finish. That's been my only complaint with them. We also had another claim where American Home Shield had A-1 Overhead Door Co come out. Our door wasn't working and wouldn't go up and down. The tech assessed the situation, figured out what was wrong, and fixed it. He was professional, friendly, and competent. Just what we wanted.

I have a couple of issues with American Home Shield. One, I went into a contract situation with them initially for a certain amount, and somewhere along the way later, they changed the monthly payments without my knowledge. I found out after the fact. Two, they changed the initial contract I went into and wrote me a new contract with a new account for whatever reason. They didn't explain that to me. Three, they have sent people out here, but I haven’t been very pleased with them. I've had issues with the companies that American Home Shield have sent out here in the past, and I have reported that to them about how non-professional they seemed to be.
The last time I had some complaints to American Home Shield, it was like talking to the wall. I didn’t have anyone to mediate the conversation to the point that it was me against them. I don't know who and where American Home Shield gets these small companies from, but the contractors seem to be low-end individuals. Their margin of operation is not as large as the established companies as well. They're mom-and-pop type of units and I have no problem with small contractors. However, I have a problem with contractors who do not respect the household and not only that, dispatched work instead of following through to make sure everything is functioning properly.
These small companies that they send out are not very responsive as far as doing a follow-up and completing the work. Either they come out and leave a mess and they won't clean up behind them or they are slow in responding. One time, my air condition unit wasn't coming on. It wasn't blowing cold air in any form or fashion and SBS found out that the fan had become entangled on a wire. It shut the system down. When SBS repaired that, they went upstairs to check the unit to see if it was working. It was, but they failed to notice and inform me that there was a leak coming from that unit. Since there was a leak, after a couple days, we noticed that the pan in which the unit was supposed to drip into overflowed.
In doing so, the water saturated the floor as well as the bedroom walls upstairs. Upon which, I called the company a couple of times to come back out to look at the damage that was done, but I never got a callback. The SBS guy who came out and did the repair was nice and he was very cordial. The company as a whole though did not respond to my request for them to come back out and check the unit again. SBS never came back. Since the pan was dripping and the water damage was great, I had to follow another avenue as far as getting the problem resolved. I had to file a claim to get my bedroom repaired.
American Home Shield had a water restoration company come out. They dried out the attic, the bedroom and the carpet and they've torn out the sheetrock and the walls that were damaged. The sheetrock around the closet area was damaged and the closet door had to be removed too. The whole ceiling in the bedroom had to come out as well. It cost me $2,800 for water restoration and then it cost me another $3,000 for the wall, the sheetrock and everything else that was damaged. Also, before the water restoration people could complete their work, I had to have our AC man come out here to remove and replace the air conditioning unit, which was another $1,000. This was done so that the water restoration people could tear the saturated floor out and put a new floor down.
That AC person put the air condition back in place last Thursday. Today, I have an appointment with another restoration company to put that sheetrock and paint and ceiling fan back. We’re waiting for the restoration people to come out here to finish off the work that was caused by that leak that was not repaired. So, what recourse do I have about American Home Shield since the representative that they sent out did not respond back to my request to come out here? I’m getting the bills now, so I’m waiting to get all of it before I contact American Home Shield. I have taken pictures of the damage and everything that has gone into this process, but I was so frustrated to the point that I had to have something down right then, and I couldn’t figure out what to do.

The AC wasn't running. It wasn’t cooling. When Southern Air came, they were flippant, nonchalant, and not caring. The tech pumped $400 worth of Freon and then left. Two days later, the AC stopped running. And then, they came back and said, “Well, we fixed it. Too bad.” That’s why I cancelled my account with Home Shield.
The issue was a reversing valve. The unit is underneath the house. The tech told me he didn’t want to go under the house so we never really identified the problem. I ended up spending six hours on the phone with Home Shield and I'm not very happy. I was really angry. It was close to 100 degrees that weekend and I live with my mom. And then the way Home Shield addressed that too, with not getting a technician out that weekend, was really bad too. They wanted to know my mom’s personal health history, which is none of their business. It’s a violation of HIPAA. The whole experience was awful. I'm reporting everybody to the Better Business Bureau.

I had some electrical work that needed to be done and Electrical Service Professionals did a great job. There were two guys and they were very friendly. Some of the switches in my house weren't wired correctly and they fixed everything quick and fast. I bought the house in April and I’ve had American Home Shield since then but I've had other experiences with them. Every time somebody comes out, somebody has to come behind them and re-fix it. The HVAC guy was nice but he didn't know exactly what to do. He came out on a Friday and then on Saturday, it was hot in my basement. They came out a second time but they didn't fix it. On the third time, the boss came out and fixed it, which was good and it was no big deal. If you don't know, then you don't know. I don't have a problem with that as long as the issue gets fixed.
With my plumbing, it was terrible. I was overseas and I just got home June 19th of last year. So, my mother was here when she scheduled the first plumbing appointment. They came out and then the problem was still existing, so they had to come out again for the same toilet issue. They fixed that and then, I discovered a leak from the Whirlpool to my master bedroom. They came out and they were supposed to fix the toilet again because I told them that when I flush it, I have to do it twice. The guy was working on the Whirlpool tub at the time and he was working on that for about two hours. I asked him about the toilet after he finished and he said that there was nothing he could do about it. He told me how he used the bathroom. He said that he would always flush while he was using it and then flush again at the end.
I take showers mostly but I told my mother to take a bath in the Whirlpool just to see if the problem was fixed. So, she took a bath and I went downstairs in my basement, and there was water leaking on my floor. The reps had already cut a hole in my ceiling to look for the problem and then they said he fixed the problem. He then came and put the drywall back in the ceiling. Now, it's leaking again. I just moved in so I didn't have any furniture there but my 82-inch screen TV just came in today and that's it's going on the wall where that leak is coming from. So, I have to delay my installation on my TV until they get this plumbing issue fixed.
I asked American Home Shield to outsource it to another company because I didn't wanna deal with these same guys that keep coming in my house. They said that it will delay the situation so I said it was alright. Somebody's supposed to come again tomorrow and we'll see how that goes. Hopefully, they'll get it fixed and don't have to cut my ceiling again. It is American Home Shield’s fault because they are outsourcing contracts to the cheapest bidders.

Cross Country did really well especially under the circumstances and kind of getting into American Home Shield. There was an issue with the internal pieces and Cross Country was saying that the outside unit was probably gonna go out. Sure enough, it did. Understandably, American Home Shield didn't want to pay for it until it totally went out so Cross Country had to make two different trips. We were without really good air conditioning for about 10 days one time, and about another 10 days another time.
We had a policy with American Home Shield when we lived in Abilene so we probably had one about 12 years. We use them so often that they called us high risk because when you look at what we've paid in versus what they've had to pay out for claims, they lost money on us. Ours is a little bit higher than the others. But now, at this house, a lot of our pieces have been replaced. We may look at others that are a little bit cheaper. I live in a small town so it'd be nice if American Home Shield could respond a lot faster to some of the claims. There are times that they can't find anyone in the area so we have to go find someone. It would also be nice if they expand their network of providers.

Two companies came out on my recent claim with American Home Shield. The first company put a hole on the wall inside the house where the gutters go down into the ground. They stuck a rod down in there and they tried it for a few minutes. They didn't make any progress, so they gave up there. They came inside the house and went down through the main pipe. They had to call another company, so they came out. The guy from the second company came out and he went down through there and he worked and worked and showed effort. The first time he went down, he couldn't get it. He said something was stopping it. He went to the truck and got another piece and put it on the end of that rod and he was able to get through. So, he solved my problem.

My ice maker was broken. Amtec Services was assigned to us and it was good once the technician got here. I needed a new ice maker and they ordered it. He came out, put it in, and fixed the unit. The process took a couple of weeks. I called American Home Shield and it was another week before I got the appointment. When they came out, it was another week. They had to order. It took all seven working days before he even came in. The ice maker has been working ever since.
The only downside with American Home Shield is that it takes much longer than if you called somebody else. It's not the quickest service. But once something gets fixed, it gets fixed. Other than that, I've never had an issue. I’ve had American Home Shield for maybe 15 years. I've had maybe two or three claims. They’ve always been very good.

It ended being the compressor. It’s good now. It’s running really well. The technicians that were sent out were really good. I’m really happy about the technicians that came out to my house. The first time Air Boss came out for our AC, they found a leak in the evaporator in the handler in the garage and they put some more freon in it. They had to come back for the solution. They didn't have any in stock. It was a matter of a few days until they ordered it. They put that solution which was supposed to be a sealant leak, some kind of special solution they had that if it's leaking a little bit to seal it up. I've used some in cars before and it seemed to still be working good, so it must have solved the problem. The technician was knowledgeable, nice, and polite. I think he was either owner or a high up in the company with the way he talked. He knew what he was talking about. If it starts leaking again, he said to give them a call and they'll come back and check where it was leaking before. Then if it's still like that, they're gonna have to replace it. But he very seriously doesn't think it's gonna leak anymore.

The first guy that came out for our AC was on January 27th. He got here well after the four-hour window that they give you. So I ended up sitting around waiting for him. He got here, he's a young kid by himself, hooked up all his things to it, said, "No, you're not low on Freon or anything. Your compressor's stuck. I can put a hard start on it which was a little contraption you put on to give it more voltage to the compressor." He then turned it on and we held our hand up to the vent, and it started to blow. He left and 10 minutes later, it wasn't doing anything.
So then, we called back, "Hey, that didn't do anything." Then, the contractors didn't come out the next day. The next guy came out on June 30th and then he hooked his stuff up, and soon he said, "No, the first guy that came out diagnosed it wrong." The first guy added what they called 420. It needed 410A. He went up in the attic and said it needed a new evaporator coil. He left.
Then, American Home Shield sent a different company out here. The guy went up in the attic but wasn't here very long. He said, "Yeah, needs a coil." It was like he was with climate control. This was on July 14th. He added 410A, a little bit and he said he'd write it up and see what the warranty company would say. A couple of days later, an expert from Louisiana showed up, and nobody told him anything. He was like brand-new and I told him the story. He went up in the attic for a while, and he finally got up there with his torch. He said he plugged the leak in some valve, but it didn't do any good.
Then, another guy came out. The last guy that came here was really good. First of all, he had to correct everything that the previous guy did. There's a cover that goes over the unit upstairs, which keeps the air blowing into the vents and that was completely hanging off. The screws were broken and all the air from the AC was blowing in the attic. So this guy patched all this up and I helped him up in the attic 'cause he had to tape everything. He set all his things up on the machine and he was doing the right kind of pressure.
I was hoping he'd come back 'cause I was monitoring what it was doing overnight. It was a weekend, so I called him on a Monday and he said, "Oh no, I quit." The last guy that was here that was good, but he quit. So I've gone with somebody else to fix it. Three of the contractors said it needed a coil, but nobody ever ordered it. Everybody that showed up was brand-new.

I would give Altstadt Plumbing Service an A-plus. They've come out before, and I requested them because I like them so well. That's the only plumber in town in Home Shield that I really like. They're easy to work with and talk to on the phone. They come through with everything they say they would do and they handle the whole thing very well. They fill us in on knowledge, tells us what they're doing, and they get the job done. There were drain stoppages in the house. The drains wouldn't drain out to the sewer. The main problem turned out to be the bathroom sink and the clog had gotten so bad there. Once Altstadt cleared that one out, everything was fine.
When I would call in, Home Shield automatically assigned me this really bad plumber in Illinois, and the house was in Indiana. That has happened twice and I've had to call back. I hardly get the actual person I want to service. The last time when I had this most recent call, I said, “Can you designate Altstadt as my preferred plumber?” Because then the next time I call in, if I had a problem, it would automatically assign them to my case. I'll find out next time I need a plumber. Hopefully, it won't be for a while though. Other than that, I've had several claims with Home Shield and I've been pleased every time. They've done a good job for me.

I thought my recent claim was handled fine. However, when the vendor came out, I had and still have a leak in the commode area of my master bedroom. When the tech looked at it, he didn't do anything. He said he couldn't remove the carpet and they were restricted from doing that. At this point, I was okay with them pulling up the carpet to repair the appliance. I would’ve gotten the carpet stitched back down or intact on my own without holding them in any obligation. But I heard what he said and I did follow up with them.
I like American Home Shield and they do a very good job. I appreciated them responding and saying that they didn't do anything. They did refund my initial upfront deposit, which started off many years ago. It started from $35 and it’s now up to $100. I dropped them before and I’ve gone with another group for one year, but I came right back to them. I highly recommend American Home Shield. They hold the consumer in check by making sure that we can show records that our particular appliances are being looked at and are adjusted an annual basis or whenever the last time we had a problem. So my track record is good with them. I haven't needed them a whole lot, but I'm satisfied with what they've done and that’s why I'm still with them.

However, the level of service of AHS depends on whether or not we get somebody who speaks English. A lot of times, we get people who don't understand what we're trying to say. We've been very dissatisfied with the plumbing service that we got through AHS, Down the Drain Plumbing. They've sent the same people out multiple times and they could never get it right. ARO did a good job. The claim was for a broken handle on my dishwasher and they were able to successfully resolve it. It was pretty timely and they were good with the updates so I was happy with that. Sometimes some of the people American Home Shield contracts with aren't as good, but this one was. We started our policy in August 1st of last year and we did renew for this next year ‘cause they did a good job and were fair in what they had to provide us throughout the year. Filing a claim is pretty easy. They give you a lot of ways to do that.
There is an existing repair request I have out there that's under some sort of review process. It's been three weeks since the tech came out here and assessed it. I'm a little dissatisfied with that. I called yesterday to get a checkup on it, and there was an hour long wait to talk to someone just to see what the status of an existing claim is and to get more information on it. Overall, I've had a good experience, but this latest one with why there's a three-week delay on getting approval for a part that needs repaired on our oven is unknown to me at this time. That’s probably a bit of a downside for us, but hopefully I'll be able to connect with someone to figure out what the holdup is there.
There was one thing I had earlier in the year where they had a hard time finding someone who would fix the issue. They would not authorize it. I’d contacted another company who said that they knew what was wrong and could fix it, but American Home Shield was saying they had to go through all of their vendors before they could allow me to use them. I hired them so I ended up just canceling the claim and paid them myself to fix this since I had like four other different contractors come out who were unable to fix the issue. I just gave up after that. Despite those two not so great experiences, American Home Shield is probably one of the better companies out there who do provide home warranty services. With any of the other things I had, it has been good with them so far. The fact that if the same thing breaks within a 60 or 90-day period that they will send someone back out without an additional charge is nice as well.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

There was a problem with the damper of my refrigerator. The door didn't open. I did a claim for that and American Home Shield's online option was okay. Trying to get through on the phone is a little ridiculous because nobody ever answers and you’re waiting and waiting. For this claim, I got an email saying I would be contacted. But I didn't wait and I called. I was without a refrigerator for many weeks. Being diabetic, I'm supposed to have healthy things and not eat bread and stuff. But because of the COVID, the service company only had one person that worked with cooling. They were backed up.
I called and demanded that American Home Shield find me somebody sooner. But it still took the tech forever. The tech was lovely and very nice. He informed me. But when I asked if he had the needed parts, he didn't and they had to order the parts. If they were going to come here and do a refrigerator, they should have had the majority of the parts needed for cooling. I then had to wait another two weeks. I'm not very happy with the response.
American Home Shield's response time is okay. But when they don't have enough people in their group to come out and help you, it’s very frustrating. Being without a refrigerator is a big deal and I would consider it an emergency. You can't have dairy or anything. Also, I am without a refrigerator for weeks and I'm paying. On top of that I have to pay another $125 just for someone to come out. It's a bunch of crap.
As far as dealing with American Home Shield, it wasn't their rep's fault. I spoke to her numerous times. She was trying to help me as much as she could to try to find someone. American Home Shield is not at fault too but they should have more people and find more people to get to customers sooner, even if they have to go a little further to find them, especially when it’s an emergency.

My husband was in the military so we had been in a lot of houses over the years. We purchased this one a year and a half ago and spot-on, did great. American Home Shield was part of the purchase where the sellers would pay for the first year, which ended in December. We picked it up and have had it since January 2020. We had two claims and for the air conditioner, we called AHS because we felt like the house was not keeping up with the cool air. So the technician came right in. It needed a little bit more Freon but to keep in mind as well with the heat that we have out there, he checked everything and cleaned out one of the drain lines, which also helped, so it's working much better now. The way they handled it was outstanding.
On the other hand, it has been a nightmare on the electric. The guy from the company they sent out was a joke. He was telling us how we needed to rip the wall out and he wanted to cut a hole through the wall with the cabinet. It's a $375,000 house, which, in the area we live in, is good. I told him that it passed inspection and they never had any problems with it before. It was simply the switch that you go to turn on for your garbage disposal that went dead. So, it's not anything major. Rather than get a plumber out to do the garbage disposal, we have to make sure that it's not the electrical line because that was bizarre that it would go out like that. So, the guy spent an hour here doing everything ridiculous. He said how he was gonna have to get up with somebody else in the company to talk with them about it. I said that there was not gonna be a hole in my wall.
We had a flickering kitchen light and when he went to fix it, he said he didn’t have time for that because he got two other calls that night. So, it left us with a bad taste in our mouth. That was on a Thursday so we waited for the next week for somebody else to call us from his company. They never did so we let a week go by and we called American Home Shield. The rep apologized profusely and she said that if she could keep me on hold, she was gonna call that company. She did and she said that the company was gonna send somebody else out.
Another week goes by and there was nobody. So I called American Home Shield again. It was quite a wait to have to get through to them so that was a little bit problematic to me to put in for a service call. It then went back and forth. Three and a half weeks later, somebody else was given to us only to have that bad company call the next day and tell us that they were told they have to come and fix it. I told American Home Shield I didn't want them at my house because he came back and lied to them. He said that there was a nail or screw that went through the line. I said there's no way to even hang anything and there was nothing that went through it. On the paperwork he gave us, it never even said that. So, we were bothered by that and there was some company that came out and did it. The guy said that there was nothing wrong with this line at all.
To put it in a nutshell, it's a little bit difficult getting up with American Home Shield and after this ordeal, I talked with my husband. I said I would prefer to cancel it because I wanna be able to call who I wanna call for a contractor because this is not something we wanna go through. Also, we had AHS on an automatic draft for them to take out payments and when we had to pay $75 for the electrician and then $75 for the heating and air guy to come out, they drafted that but somehow, that knocked us off the automatic draft where we were paying our payment every month on that. So, they're sending me all these late notices and since I'm on an automatic draft, I was questioning why it wasn't taken out. So, I’m done.

City First Electric was very helpful when they were came out the first time. But the second time, they didn't know what the problem was and they didn't really diagnose it nor do anything. The issue was with the electrical sub-panel on the side of our house. We have a pool and that sub-panel is for our pool filter and pool heater. It also controls the yard lights and the pool’s lights. It even has something to do with the sprinkler system.
We have a panel inside the house that we can turn the pool filter on with. But now that won't work unless we do it manually. There must be some kind of a short or something inside that sub panel because now it's to the point where we have to turn everything off and when we want the sprinklers or the filter to come on, we have to manually turn them on. We were hoping that the technician could tell us if it was something that could be fixed of if it was covered, but he just said that he didn't really know and left.
We had someone come out for our air conditioner and for the pump for our spa. But they didn't fix anything. They said that it was something else so we just hired somebody and had somebody to come do it. Out of all the times that we've called American Home Shield, they've fixed something twice. I'm a mortgage lender and I’ve got clients that buy houses all the time, but I don't recommend American Home Shield to them at all.
The reps from American Home Shield are always nice enough when you call them, but the contractors that they send out are companies that don’t have a lot of business. The very first time I ever had to call was for our garage door and the guy that came out looked at it and said that it seemed to be fine to him so he just sprayed a little oil over it. But he also said that I was going to need something else in the future. So he gave me his personal cell phone number and told me that he could do that on the side for me and he would give me a better price if I was to come to his company. They almost deny everything that they come out for but then they want you to do something on the side with them.

9 Days without air conditioning in Houston TX. Multiple requests for escalation. No information, nothing has been resolved. On July 14th 2pm we requested a service call due to our A/C stopping. Promptly placed on the schedule with Sun Coast A/C & Heating for July 15th between 8-5pm. Service tech came that day, found a compressor was needing to be replaced and fan. Ok. This is where the problems began. Through the whole process we have been in contact with Sun Coast. AHS orders their own parts after the service request has been approved. 4 days later, after we had to call AHS because nothing was happening and Sun Coast could not get through to them, it took AHS another day to approve and order parts.
2 days later the compressor shows up to Sun coast ordered by AHS. Problem again, no fan. Sun Coast calls, we call again, we requested escalation. They could not give us any information. Another day passes, same thing, ask for a manager or supervisor...nothing. Today July 23rd, same thing, and we were told the part should of arrived on the 21st of July. AHS doesn't know why or where the fan is. They can't tell us when our AC might be fixed. They can't tell us when a part will arrive. They can't tell us what might of happened to the part they ordered, but they cannot see where it could of went. We are now on day 9 of no A/C. Here's a breakdown of the air temps....not real feel but air temps since the 14th... 93 deg...93 deg...97 deg...88 deg...90 deg...90 deg...86...86...88 and today 93.
We have a child in the house, 3 pets and my wife is working from home. There is a pandemic going on and now a tropical storm in the gulf and not once have we been told anything about any resolvment of issues. Not once has a manager or supervisor called us back. Not once have we been told at the very least a time frame. NOTHING.
On top of that per our contract we must pay for the freon to be reinstalled. 595.00 worth of R22 freon. After all this I believe this fee should be waived due to the incompetence of AHS in resolving this issue and the compounding cost of electricity we are running with the temps the way they are for refrigerators, fans etc. We have not even been able to cook a meal inside on the stove because of the high temps. We have asked for escalation and nothing has happened.

June 29 AC went out. Took 3 weeks, 50 hours on hold, calling Philippines, 40 phone calls and five different companies given my service request. Paid $1,100 for a normal installation because they only pay the HVAC company $200 for installs. Three guys were here for 3 hours how are they going to make a living if they can't charge me for things that should have been paid by AHS. I was lied to many times by customer service. Check out their Facebook page before buying. There are 1,000's of post about waiting weeks and even months to get something fixed. That is how they make money. You finally get so frustrated or tired of being in a 90 degree house that you just get it fixed yourself. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with and regret having them for 20 years. They have gotten worse since Service Master spun them off.

Finally received a refund after three weeks.
Original Review: July 23, 2020
In truth, they cover almost nothing. They charge you $75 BEFORE the contractor tells you, guess what, your problem isn't covered by American Home Shield. Then, when you try to get a refund for your $75, there is almost no way to contact AHS and get a live person to help you-- everything is set up to submit service requests only. I have been on hold for over an hour trying to get my refund. They should NOT be permitted to charge you before the contractor visit. We have had two repairs done since we purchased our home a year ago, both contractors AHS referred were sketchy and I felt uncomfortable with them, plus there were add-on costs for the repairs, one was over $200. You are much better off finding a vetted repair person over a service like Yelp.

American Home Shield sent Stepan's A/C & Heating. I like them. They were terrific. They came out right away. As soon as we asked for help, they called us and said, "We're coming," within one day. Then they came out and fixed the issue. They had to order a part, the part came in, then they came back and fixed it. Then it went out again. So I just called them up. I said, "Look, your guy just fixed it but it's not working." So they came back out and they found that some wires had come loose. They fixed it again on their own and it's been fine.
However, American Home Shield has let me down. My washing machine that wouldn't agitate. Sometimes it would go a minute or so and then it would stop. The washing machine wasn't agitating. So I called up and they sent somebody out from Active Appliance. The first guy came out, he looked at it and said, "You're right, the washing machine is not working properly. It doesn't agitate. We'll order a part. We'll come back and fix it as soon as the part comes in." That was on April the 2nd. Two months later, I waited and I figured because of the coronavirus, maybe there was some problem. I called up Active Appliance and I said, "Where have you been?" Then I called up American Home Shield and right away they said they'll be right out the next day. They said they had the part.
What happened was the first guy from Active Appliance said that the transmission was in really bad shape. It was slipping and that's why it wouldn't agitate properly. But they would order the new transmission and they'd come out and fix it. Two months later, they hadn't come out. Finally, they came out. There were three guys, and I asked them, "Did you bring the part?" "Yes, we brought the part." They went and fooled around in the back of the thing and came out after about 30 minutes. The guy that came out to fix it said, "The part doesn't fit and there's rat infestation." Now, there was nobody else that ever said rat infestation until they came out and said that.
So then American Home Shield declined my orders. But I then said I disagree and I asked for a second opinion. I said, "I'll pay for the second opinion." They got Magic Appliance and Magic Appliance came out and they said, "There's no rat infestation, the washing machine doesn't work properly because of the transmission." They said that they would notify American Home Shield and they did. Then American Home Shield told Magic Appliance, "We're not gonna fix it because it still works." In their eyes, it still works and until it totally shuts down, they're not gonna fix it. I called up and talked to like three people and they all sympathize with me. I said, "Look, if my heater doesn't work, everything goes on but it doesn't heat. Well, my washing machine, everything works but it doesn't wash."
They didn't buy it. The guy from Magic Appliance called up and talked to four people. They told them, "No, that's the way it is. We're not gonna honor it until it breaks down totally." But he told them that it was really not working properly. I called up American Home Shield again, and they said they'll look into it. The guy from Magic Appliance called me back and said he talked to somebody at American Home Shield and now there's no record of all of these things. They were totally missing. I'm very frustrated and I'm gonna cancel my contract.

I didn't have electricity which started with the outlets on the outside of the house and then it progressed to the bathrooms. It was a ground fault and the GFI was failing. It tripped and wouldn't reset. The electrician was able to determine that and he replaced it. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was very simple. Even if I paid for it, I wouldn't use it if it was complicated. I'd rather pay than go through a lot of rigmarole but I found it very easy to do and that they were very responsive. It's not like you have to wait a month.
I got the warranty because I bought this house and I asked myself what if there were some problems here. Maybe I ought to get a little protection and so, I made the seller buy it. I said that I would drop it after I've got a year's worth of experience because I know it's just not gonna work well. So, I was very prejudiced against the idea. But after I had American Home Shield and the way they responded and the people that came out, I renewed. I’m very happy. I had two contractors and they were very good. I have no complaints. They did everything that I needed and they did it very professionally. The people who came out were very professional. I'm very satisfied with AHS and I had a very good experience with them.

The fridge stopped working and the thermostat wasn't cooling. We lost a bunch of food and then I reached out to American Home Shield. They got with Callahan and it took quite a while. It took at least a month or so to get it fixed. Callahan is a neighbor of mine and he lives in the same community. So most of the people go to him for their appliance issues. I happen to have American Home Shield and then he also works with American Home Shield. What I felt was maybe there should have been an option where you can pick and choose your provider by yourself on the website. With the whole coronavirus situation, we were on the call with these agents for sometimes 12 hours, 13 hours and I will just leave the phone there like that.
I tried thinking it might be low volume at night time, but the same thing. It just goes to some other country. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you get somebody on shore, here in the US. That's when you get most of the things done, in US. But, it was frustrating as it is. Not just that, there's no backup or response back. I call somebody to check my AC and to see why it wa's not cooling properly. That person came in and wrote me a quote for the $100 and left. I was like, "I call you to see if there is anything wrong." All he said was the thermostat was in the wrong place.
I said, "The thermostat has been there for the last six years now. Why would it suddenly impact me now?" So I called American Home Shield and they said, "Okay, so don't worry, we're not gonna charge you another $125, you're gonna have a follow-up visit.” But then nothing. Nobody called back to me. That has been my challenge. Right now, I believe my contract also has expired with American Home Shield and I don't even know if I want to extend with them or not.
They have a chat option and the chat option would come in and go as well. They were overwhelmed with the chat windows so they just took out the option. They were added periodically and whenever they would like to add it, the support has not been so great. I get it that it’s coronavirus. But unfortunately, it has been bad support that we got from American Home Shield, which is why I'm really not thinking of renewing my contract with them. I've been there for five years now. But this time around, it's so bad.

The fan up in the attic had some water in it and I wanted to make sure everything was on the up and up. A technician from Quantum Mechanics came and he was professional. He answered some of the questions I had for him too. He said the water was due to condensation and he told me how to remedy everything in order to stop that from happening. At one time, I thought it was clogged, and he said that it was, but somehow it unclogged itself. Apart from that, my experience with American Home Shield lately has been poor. Another claim never got finished, and they've given me nothing but excuses and different answers. Some of the people I've talked to with them were absolutely rude and tried to put words in my mouth. I was raised that if you have nothing nice to say, it's better you don't say anything and I don't have anything nice to say right now.

He had been there before and I had bearings put in the washer because it wasn't agitating right. That was done a couple years ago so I figured it was something to do with that. He remembered me and he laughed at me and said that this wasn't the first time this happened to him. He said the next time this happens, I should take a video and do a recording of the sound. So, I've been careful. It hasn't done it. I have my phone already for the next time. The experience was wonderful and he couldn't have been nicer. He was outstanding. Our AC went out so I filed the claim online and AHS scheduled a technician within 48 hours. Everyday Heating and Cooling came out and they had to fix both my units. One was just a capacitor and that was fixed the same day. They ordered a part on the other one and that took probably a month. Waiting was the worst part, but that's nobody's fault. They ended up replacing a compressor and they were pretty good about it. Having American Home Shield saved my butt. I like it. Otherwise, we’d probably still be saving to get stuff fixed. A part of the reason we decided to buy a warranty again was because our AC unit's 2004 when they were put so they're getting bad. The last three years, I've had to have it worked on. I’ve been with American Home Shield for eight years and we've had some hit-or-miss when filing claims. Sometimes, they get techs who come out and diagnose the problem and then they have to come out a week later to repair it. We had an issue with the sink where one plumber showed up, didn't have any tools, used my garden hose to try to fix the sink, and then on the invoice said that it was an excessive backup. So, we had to pay out of pocket for somebody to hydro jet the thing.
This house was built in the 70s and I don't put anything down the drain. I put everything in the trash can. So, that was unfortunate, having to eat that when we had their service for a number of years. But we had an electrician who was awful and we called American Home Shield, and they helped with that one. Also, we've always been happy with Bay Appliances who usually does a good job. When the showerhead wasn't working, All & All Plumbing fixed it very quickly. They were great.

I called American Home Shield when I filed claims for the refrigerator and the air conditioner. My only problem was it took me so long to get in touch with somebody. I'd be on hold for 50 minutes. When I made the claim for the refrigerator, sometimes I was on hold for two hours one day. After I made the claim, the contractor came out, checked the refrigerator, said they couldn't fix it, and they will now get me a new one. I waited for a couple of days and nobody called me so I called AHS. I stayed on the phone for about 45 minutes and then they had to switch me over to somebody else.
When they switched me over to the people that handle replacing the refrigerator, I stayed on the phone so long, 'til the recording came on saying that I've been on hold for too long and it hung up. Then I called back again the next day. I stayed on the phone for an hour and a half. I left my phone on speaker while I was looking at the TV. It took an hour and a half before somebody finally came through to talk to. This is my first time using them but the hold time was the only problem.
The contractor came out for the refrigerator. It was in the garage and they went in there. They looked at it and said they couldn't fix it so they had to get a new one. They sent me a website to look at. I put it up on my phone and looked at it while I was talking to the guy. They only had two or three that I can pick from that wouldn't cost me any money. I chose one and it took me a week or so before the refrigerator finally came. Then when I filed the claim for the air conditioner, it only took three days for the contractor to come out. He fixed it and left.
AHS solved my problem on both times but the replacement part was a lot harder than the guy that came out and fixed the air conditioning. Overall, I would recommend them if the people are willing to stay on the phone for two hours to get to talk to somebody. If the people ain't willing to do that, then they might not wanna deal with AHS.

I called them in June because my AC was not working. It wasn't cooling. They came out and they said that I was low on Freon. They checked the system in the attic and they said it was okay. It was just the Freon and something else he said. But, he fixed it and it worked for a little while and then it went out again. I called American Home Shield. They also did another service request for Advanced Comfort to come out.
Advanced Comfort came out and they said that the first technician misdiagnosed my problem, that there was a leak in my coil system in my attic and that they would be ordering a part. It would take about five days for it to come in. I asked them if they could expedite the order because I'm a dialysis patient and I take my dialysis at home. They apologized and they said that they'd see what they could do, but they couldn't guarantee anything.
I called American Home Shield and I explained the situation with them, that I was a dialysis patient and that I really needed to be in my home. I couldn't incur a lot of expenses at a hotel trying to make an accommodation. I was out of my home from last Tuesday until yesterday, waiting for this part. I asked him if my service request could be expedited, if I could be placed at the top of the list, and they said that the earliest that they can get to me is on Monday, which was this past Monday. They said that they understood, but that there was nothing that they can do. I said, “Are you going to reimburse me for my expenses out of my out of my home?” They said no. They said they couldn't do that, then that the earliest that they can get to me was Monday not unless somebody canceled Friday.
I asked to speak Gus. The person on the phone said that Gus was not available, that he was out on a service call. They tried to call them and he didn't call back. I said, “Can you please leave Gus a message to ask him to call me back?” I called back in about an hour with my dad on the phone and my dad talked to Gus and explained the situation, that I was on dialysis and that I needed to be in my home. If they could expedite my service call. Gus said that he would see what he can do, but he couldn't guarantee anything.
I was out of my home until yesterday. The guys came and repaired the AC. I thanked them. I said, “I appreciate your effort.” I said, “I don't agree with how your company handled my service request, but I like them, but not Advanced Comfort.” They knew that I had a medical emergency with my dialysis and they treated me just like any other customer even though this was a repeat. I was upset because if my problem was correctly diagnosed in June, I wouldn't have been so displaced.
We do apologize that your a/c issue was not properly handled. We would love to assist more in this matter to come to a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

Emerald Pools was fabulous. They came out in a timely manner. They took care of business. The gentleman that was here fixing my pool pump was super kind. I would totally have them come out again if needed. This claim with American Home Shield went way smoother than my claim with the AC. My claim for the rekey was pretty smooth, but the one with the air conditioner was not great. It wasn't American Home Shield's fault necessarily, but the company that they chose. It was not a good company at all. I didn't realize I could choose a company, so I did more review work on when I chose Emerald Pools.
With COVID going on, the gentleman from the company who came out to look at the AC didn't have a mask. He didn't have anything covering his shoes. We have two hatches that go up into my attic where the air conditioning units are, and I live in Las Vegas, so we had some issues with the AC cooling. He peaked up there and said, "There's not a safe way for me to get to it." I said, "Aren't there two by fours up there?" He said, "Well, yeah, but we're not allowed to walk on the two-by-fours." I said, "Well, what are you supposed to walk on? I mean, that is the roof structure." He ended up coming down and taking a picture of something. It was where one of the AC ducts connected to the actual HVAC unit. He ended up getting up there because he had a picture with him. I asked how did he take the picture if he didn't get up into the attic. He said, "Well actually, all of this is installed all improperly."
I told him, "Well, this house was built in the 80s. I'm sure that it's probably HVACs and AC ducts that had rules that were back in the 80s." He said, "Well, everything was just installed improperly." I said, "Okay, well, I don't see how we're gonna get any further than where we are now. So you are more than welcome to just leave." He denied my claim. I called the 800 number for American Home Shield and they said, "Well, we can't send anybody else out there unless you pay another $75." I said, "I'm not paying another $75. I mean, the gentleman said he couldn't get up there, and then he did get up there, and then he's telling me that everything was installed improperly. I don't trust his judgment and neither should you."
His whole denial was that he couldn't get up into the attic because there wasn't a safe way to get up there, but he told the company that he denied the claim because of something else. It was not good. I had to call my real estate agent, but he got me to a different young lady in a different office, and she was able to help me get a different technician out here and not pay another $75. He went up there just fine. He went up in both hatches. He said, "Here's exactly what's going on." I said, "Do you believe that anything up there was installed incorrectly?" He said, "No, no, no. This is just how they did it back in the 80s." He was a super great guy.
With the amount of time I spent on the phone with American Home Shield's 800 number, it was about a little over three hours in total. It was an hour and a half wait and discussion, and then the next day, it was an hour and a half wait and discussion. That was really a huge headache. I'm thankful that my agent sent me over to somebody else. What I needed was very simple. I just wanted a second opinion. I just wanted a more reputable company to come out and take a look at it because I just did not trust this one guy's judgment.

The very first time we ever used our warranty, we got a plumber that wasn't very good. But we've had a dishwasher go out and that guy was very thorough. We also had an electrician that came because we thought that was what was wrong with the dishwasher, but it wasn't. He was like, "No, no, no. But I will tell you now, you're probably gonna have problems about this over here, eventually. Just letting you know." It's an old house. But they've been very friendly, thorough, informative and patient with us because I know nothing.
Recently, no one could get my dryer fixed, but I got a new one. We called and then Home Shield sent Will from Appliance Plus, the dryer guy. He came several times, replaced a bunch of parts on my old dryer, and then once he ran out of parts to replace, he said he didn't know what was wrong with it. He put in the note to Home Shield, and then I called them the next day and asked what do we do next since the tech said the dryer was broken. They connected me to the appliance replacement people and they just sent me an email that had a list of appliances that I could choose. I picked the one that fit my space and they had somebody deliver it. I could've had them take it away, but I'm leaving it for Will because he said he would like to tinker with it.
I always recommend Home Shield. My father is a plumber in California and he works with Home Shield and they've been very good about working with reasonable technicians. Out here, I've found that it's $80 or so after-tax, and it's $200 for me to call a plumber. 80 bucks and they come, and if it's a stoppage, then they will clear the stoppage. If it's broken, then they'll fix what's broken. The only thing they don't cover are the knobs on your stove and your light fixtures. $80 is a lot better than a $200 bill.

The contractors came out for our AC unit. However, it still wasn't working after a while. We ended up having to change the filters in it to have to work. But it was still the same for over a week. He said that it was fine. He was like, "Everything should be working. I did this and that." We believed him and nothing. It just started working fine five days ago.
When I submitted a claim online to AHS, I didn't like it at all. I kept on having to get out of it, refreshing and refreshing, 'cause it wouldn't give me the option that I needed and it just wasn't easy. But as soon as I call and make a claim, they send somebody out either that same day or the next day. So that, I have been very satisfied with it.

American Home Shield does what they say they're gonna do. Every time I had a problem, they came and fixed it. That's one reason why I've stuck with them for a long time. I filed a claim with them online and their website was good. Then they had Draingo pull up a date with me and they did it the same day. They put a hot water heater in for me and then they also did a faucet. They did a wonderful job. It was an excellent experience with American Home Shield.

There was a leak in the roof. It was leaking to my living room from our ceiling. When I initially called to file a claim, I explained to their rep the situation. I noted that it was an AC unit since that was the only thing up in my attic. The process was pretty good but their rep gave me some wrong information. But besides that, it was okay. It took a day for Legum's Heating & Cooling to come out. Their tech went up there to check the AC unit and he couldn't find anything. There was this opening by one of the pipes up there and he said that it was probably it. So it wasn't the AC unit. I lost $100 because they didn't fix anything and I still had to get it fixed myself. They should have refunded half the money back.
I had to file another claim and their rep told me that it was covered. Then when I contacted them back, another lady told me that it wasn't covered. My understanding was that they were gonna contact somebody and send somebody out. So I was waiting and a couple of days passed and I called to find out what was going on. I found out that it wasn't covered and nobody had contacted me or said anything about it. It was cumbersome.

I called American Home Shield this morning. I waited in line for a while. They said they were going to call me, hold my place and call me back in five to 10 minutes but that was three hours ago. I still haven't heard from them. We have a big leak and they're not doing anything until tomorrow. It’s a visual appointment, and I'm afraid that that is going to burst in the garage and I moved about a year ago and I still have a lot of boxes. I'm scared that my boxers are gonna get wet. The reason I was calling earlier was to see if I could get somebody sooner.
I did my appointment yesterday and they said that somebody was going to call me. I tried to call them. I couldn't get through, and then they said they’d call this morning and because I tried to do it online and they said I couldn't do anything, that I had already put in a call and so this morning, they called and they said they were gonna set up a visual appointment for tomorrow. I said, “But I need this sooner because the wall is drywall and underneath is all wet and I'm afraid that that could burst in the garage.” Still, they said, “Well, the sooner I have is tomorrow, visual. And they will tell you if they need to bring a new one or not.” I haven't gone to the store because I was waiting for them to call. I can’t leave. I have to wait for them to call me.
As far as the air conditioning, one guy said that they needed to look for leaks and put something in it, and it would take a while for that. Then they sent their own people and they just filled it up with Freon. He said there was no leak but I paid $760 to put in the Freon. I do notice that sometimes, my air works too much and it gets cold, and some days, in the morning like today, I woke up at seven o'clock and it was so hot. The thermostat was at 73, but my house thermostat was saying there was a 78. Still, I've had very good results with American Home Shield in the past. I have recommended them to my neighbor and they got it.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS and we are working to improve our hold times. I had some guests over at one point and they pulled on the part of the sink or the hose that is attached internally that you can use to spray down the sink. That was dislodged and it leaked all over the floor. I was on hold for a little while when I made the claim to American Home Shield but I just decided to do it online and it was very easy to do.
The guy from Prime Plumbing Services came by and he was very helpful. He found ways to tighten it even though it was missing a piece. He did a good job and he took the time to explain a couple of things to me as well. I was very pleased with the work. I just bought this house and it came with some of these issues. The toilet in the primary bathroom was kind of loose and that caused the primary leak that I called about, which was in my crawlspace. So, he was able to fix all that and the service went well. It's nice to think that you're gonna be charged $75 and it would be resolved that way rather than unexpected. That's always such a relief. That was my only use for AHS but so far, it has been a good experience.

All issues have been resolved. I paid out of pocket to outside vendor to get job done in a timely manner.
Original Review: July 23, 2020
With American Home Shield, it takes a long time to get a contractor out to our location because they only operate in the daytime. Plus, they don't operate on the weekends too. Recently, my circuits tripped and City First Electric came out as AHS's contractor. The tech found that my circuits overloaded on a wall where I had a microwave. He told me not to use my microwave and my coffeemaker at the same time.
Before, I had a plumbing contractor who always talked about what Home Shield was not gonna cover. In my eyes, if AHS is not gonna cover all the work that needed to be done, why would I be paying an extra $75 for AHS to tell me they can't do a job when that $75 could've gone towards an outside contractor. I also notified AHS about a leak in my air conditioning unit that I had a few weeks later. Home Shield told me they would fix my unit but wouldn't cover any damage that my unit caused. That issue still cost me $300.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

The first time I put the initial claim in was when my air conditioner went out. Home Shield sent someone out. The tech said that everything would start working in 24 hours. My husband wanted him to stay there until the air starts to come in. So the temperature started dropping. The guy said every two hours, the temperature would drop down and start working. The first night, it worked. But when we got up that morning around 11 o'clock, there was no air again. I called Home Shield back to tell them to send the tech back out because it wasn’t working. They came back out again and they looked at it. They said they didn’t see anything wrong and that there was no problem. We were out of air for a whole entire week and a half.
I called Home Shield to put in an emergency claim and somebody to come out because I have an 84-year-old grandmother there. But they couldn't find anybody. I called them three days straight. They found somebody in Macon, Georgia and they said that they couldn’t come out until another week. After they heard me fussing and complaining because I had to pay my deductible to the first company that didn’t resolve the issue, they finally found somebody. Air Design came out the next morning. The tech looked around and he told me exactly that it was the circuit board. He said they would have to order the circuit board. That was on a Tuesday and it would be in on Friday. They came back Friday, put the circuit board in and air conditioner has been working since. My final experience was great. It was just the back and forth with the people and not getting somebody out in emergency basis, explaining to them when you’re in a house at 97 degrees.

My home warranty had Affordable Appliance Repair come out and their guy looked at my washing machine. He looked over the manual and he said there was some part I needed. I said, “Whatever. You know more than I know.” But that wasn't the problem. The bottom had nothing to do with why my water was not draining. But he said the part was going to fix everything. He left and 14 days later, his son came. They finally got the part and they put it on there. He said to just wash clothes so I washed a load of them. It was perfect and it was working.
But I washed my second load of clothes. I didn't even put four loads in there because I wanted to make sure the washing machine was okay. All of a sudden, it just stopped spinning and it was doing the same thing again. The tech came back out and I waited another eight days for another part. He came in yesterday and that was when they finally put a new pump on. I washed a load of clothes and so far, it's good and the water went back out.
I was gonna cancel my American Home Shield because I was upset. I had my air conditioner looked at and nothing was wrong with it. All it needed was some coolant. I had a warranty for it like you have the buyer’s warranty from the brand new unit. I had no problem with it. Since the guy that was supposed to do my air conditioner wasn't getting any money out of the deal, he went and told American Home Shield that I needed a coil when I just needed some more Freon. American Home Shield didn't cover it so I had to turn around and pay a whole other company because the tech messed up. It was $515 in cash. The only reason I kept the home warranty is because of my washing machine which is but a year old.

We put the claim in on Friday to get someone to unstop a toilet. Heros Plumbing came out Monday afternoon and they were very professional. Overall, American Home Shield has long downhill from when we used to be a customer 25 years ago. That's the only complaint I have. It seems like they send people out after they take your $75 copay, and then the person comes out and says, "Oh, it's not covered. I have to leave." And you don't get your $75 back. They could be more communicative to us, letting us know on the phone what is covered exactly and what's not covered.
For example, a plumbing leak. You would think a plumbing leak inside of a house would be covered because your paperwork spells it out. I had one guy crawl up in the attic. The pipe was leaking. He'd seen that it was leaking, took a picture of it, and came down. He said that it was not covered. His exact words were, "All we do is, if it's a small leak, we patch it up. But this is gonna take more extensive work with a plumber, so we don't cover." Then he left and we were out $75.

The first couple of times I put in claims were really sluggish. American Home Shield was finding people who were outside of my service area snd then I wouldn't hear back from anybody, so I’d have to call the vendor themselves and they would say that they don't service that area so that was kind of a tedious process. I felt like American Home Shield should have contacted me and tell me that they were trying to find someone else. I thought there was a lack of communication and maybe lack of knowledge of the service area of the particular vendors. But the last time we did it, it worked out fine. When Neal’s Plumbing came out, everything was good and seamless. Everything went very smoothly. I highly recommend a home warranty. I would just probably talk to other people who've had them to see what their experience has been, read any reviews they can read about particular ones.

The first time AHS's techs came to where I am after my air conditioning unit went out back then, I ended up with a long weekend of heat. The guy who worked on it then couldn't go any further and didn't know what else to do. It had to be someone else to come and repair it. More recently, AHS has been doing what they should do. Despite of what I went through back then, I would recommend AHS. When their techs came back out, they worked on my issue and made sure I was taken care of.

I have four policies with AHS and I'm gonna add an additional one probably next month. It's better than me having to worry about so much. However, only three policies were mailed to me. The fourth one never gets mailed and I don't know why. I'm tired of being on hold on customer service calls and whatnot that I just lose interest. It also had some issue with my credit card, and it's the same credit card I used on the other three payments that went through just fine. I have a $9,000 limit and I don't know why it was declined. I had to re-put stuff in and it was weird. Then when I go online to look up my policies, it only shows three, even though I've had four the whole time.
Recently, the AC needed Freon and a part. Family AC Service Solutions came out and fixed it. Now, the only question I had, which I need to ask them ‘cause the guy that did the air conditioner said that it's pretty much on its last leg. I'm not sure if a new AC is covered under the warranty or not. Overall, I would recommend AHS to others, just read the policy and know what it says.

We had the guys from collections come and clean the pipes and clean their lines twice. The guy from the wastewater plant called me on the phone and he told me that the line from the mainline was clear. I told my daughter that if that line was clear, then it was our line that was bad which caused us to have to call the plumber. It was 1970 when the house was built and it had been empty for nine years before we moved in, so crystallization had grown on the pipes which caused them to block up.
The plumber who came out told us that there was no cleanout on the pipe. He didn't even go far enough away from the house to finally cleanout. Typically, a cleanout is further away from the house in the yard. But he just dug two inches right there by my house. They also told us that we weren't covered. It was gonna cost a lot more money to do this. So I told the plumber to just clean the line out and I would do it later if I would have put one in.
My daughter was the one that was there and she didn't know anything about wastewater. The plumber helped her out, but I was totally dissatisfied with what he did. He just dug one line, which was close to my daughter's restroom. So he didn't even go through the mainline which you would have to go through the top of the house and then out through the mainline in an alley. I would not put a hole in that line like that. He didn't go far enough down in the backyard to find it.

I made a call about the air conditioner but I cancelled that because it turned out that the issue was a battery in the thermostat. At another time, my dishwasher was not cleaning. There's not enough pressure coming out of the arms, and I don't think it's getting enough water in there. The tablet doesn't even dissolve whenever it’s finished. Also, the heating element has burnt out and the unit's not drying at all. The first time I submitted a request for service with American Home Shield, they came out. I then submitted another claim to say that the job was still not finished and they sent somebody out that time too.
This is the third time I've had to call to get somebody to look at the dishwasher. The other two times, they came in and said it was something about the float valve. It might’ve shut it off, but then they never pulled it out and took a look at the pump, or the water lines underneath or anything else. The contractors superficially looked at everything and thought they had fixed it, but it never was fixed. All in all, we’re having trouble with the dishwasher not getting fixed, but other than that, American Home Shield answers my requests.

The company that AHS sent did not diagnose the problem and it was the same company that we had had out a month before. We knew what the problem was and we mentioned it to them. The guy that was out here before was the same guy that came back. He just flat out didn't look at what the issue was before and if he would have caught it before, then we wouldn't have had the problem again. We ended up replacing the AC unit because it was 18 years old. Our out of pocket cost was gonna be like $2,000, which is insane because an AC unit is supposed to last about 20 years. We ended up purchasing an outside unit. I made all the arrangements and then I called Home Warranty back and wanted to do the cash-out option. I sent them all of the paperwork. I'm supposed to be getting a payment, but I haven't heard anything from them. I want my check for my cash-out that I was told I was gonna get.
American Home Shield is normally pretty good. However, it seems like more recently, they're difficult to get ahold of and they want to do everything online. I'm totally all about that, booking an appointment and stuff online. But there are certain things that can't be handled online and you need to be able to explain an issue to someone who can help you. In those cases, you want to be able to have a phone call. I would like it to be easier to talk to a person. I've already invested so much time on the phone with them. It’s irritating. I ought to be able to submit the paperwork that's required and I ought to get what I should be getting based on the service I’m paying for.

Towards the end of May, our air conditioner stopped working. It stopped pushing out cold air so, I contacted American Home Shield to start a service call. When I made the initial contact, I was told that there weren’t any technicians that were available in my area. I was told that I could hire an out of network contractor to resolve the issue. So, I contacted Sims Electric out of Battle Creek, Michigan. They came out, took a look at everything and said that it appeared that there was a leak in one of the Freon lines, and they recommended a replacement. I started getting the runaround between Sims Electric and American Home Shield. After about five days of trying to coordinate with them to get the diagnosis and the estimate so Sims Electric could get those over to American Home Shield to dispatch, I got tired. I kept getting different answers.
Sims Electric was on the phone a few times with American Home Shield to try and figure out what was going on. Then, American Home Shield had set up another dispatch for A. Johnson Cooling to come out. I got an email saying that they were gonna come out, but I didn't hear anything about what was going on with Sims Electric. I contacted American Home Shield again to try and figure out what was going on. I was told that they didn’t know why A. Johnson Cooling was going out here if I've already been in contact with Sims Electric per their request. I asked how we could get this resolved. Sims Electric was still trying to send the estimate and the diagnosis and all that stuff that they were supposed to be sending and that AHS had been requesting. They said that they were gonna look into it and then they're gonna call me back. I never got a call back.
I called again the next day and got a different person. I asked what was going on and the rep said they don't know and would look into it. They would call me back. So, still no call back. I've been on hold probably an hour to two hours every day I'm calling. I called back the next day, which was a Wednesday. At this point, it was 95 degrees outside. My wife is complaining and when my wife gets hot, nobody's happy. I told them that I wanted somebody to come out here and I don't care who it is. I haven't cared who it was in the first place. When I was told to hire my own contractor, I said that I would but I don't have to pay any of this stuff out of pocket. So, they were telling me I had to send in the estimate and the diagnosis to this place, and then this place, and then that place, and I was still not getting a straight answer. Finally, I got an answer that A. Johnson cooling was contacted to come do a second opinion.
I got an email on that Monday that A. Johnson Cooling was gonna contact me within 24 hours instead of an appointment time. A. Johnson Cooling never contacted me so I figured it was an error. Now I'm finding out that he was supposed to come out as a second opinion and I asked why. There were no notes in the system about why there was a second opinion requested. So now, it's up to me to contact A. Johnson Cooling, to schedule for him to come out after I get an email saying that he was gonna contact me within 24 hours. 72 hours later, I'm contacting A. Johnson Cooling to set up an appointment for him to come out. Due to COVID, a lot of heating and cooling companies are backlogged. I have no idea when this guy is gonna come out. So, I contact him, I get a voicemail and the voicemail's all full. It was 5:30 at night and I figured his business hours stopped at 4:30.
I'm a patient person and I could contact him in the morning. So in the morning, 8 o'clock rolls around, I called them. There was no answer, I got his voicemail and voicemail was still full. Then, I got a text from him saying he was busy and to text him. So I texted him what I wanna talk to him about. It ended up being closer to 800 characters and he ended up calling me. I told him that he was supposed to be my second opinion and he was supposed to come out here. I asked when we could get this scheduled and he said he could come out tomorrow. I said that would work. Then, he asked me if the air conditioner's turned off. I said I didn't know. We've had it on and off trying to figure out if we can get this thing working. Maybe it was just freezing up. He said he couldn’t come out if it has been on.
The next available would be next Thursday. So this was Thursday that I was talking to him, so it would be a week until he could come back out there. I kinda stressed to him that this has been going on for almost three weeks and he was supposed to contact me within 24 hours of me receiving the email on Monday. This is closer to 80 hours that he hasn't contacted me and we were going on vacation that following week. We were gonna go off to Northern Michigan and we weren't even gonna be home that week. So then, that would make it two weeks before he could come out. So, he ended up coming out.
My wife was home and he came in and she said that he was disrespectful. He was disheveled and wasn't very professional at all. He didn't even come inside the house and take a look at any of the air conditioner parts that are inside the house. He just looked at outside and noticed that there was a loose wire that needed to be replaced. So he replaced it and the air conditioner started working. On Friday and Saturday, my wife and I went up north. We came back the following Sunday and found out that there was water around our furnace and the air conditioner was still not working.
I contacted American Home Shield and I said that our air conditioner was still broken. They said that A. Johnson Cooling was out here before, so they could contact them again if I'd like. I said that I didn't care who they send. I just want the air conditioner working. They said that since he was out here before, they wanted him to come out and take a look at it because he was the responsible party that was supposed to get it working. That was fair and I got that. So again, I had to contact A. Johnson Cooling. The guy was super lazy. He came out here and I was actually home this time. I met him at the door and he asked me if it was an indoor issue or an outdoor issue. I'm not an HVAC specialist so I couldn't answer. I looked at him and I said that was why he was here. So then, he comes inside and he asked me one more stupid question again where I had to look to his expertise of why he was here.
I was telling him when we turned off our air conditioner, there was a loud bang. Then, when we turned it back on, there was a loud bang. So then, we just left it off because, clearly, there was an issue going on down at the basement. I showed him the water around the basement and he couldn't tell me why there was water in the basement around our furnace. There has never been water around our furnace before up until this time. He went outside, looked at everything, and said that everything looks like it's doing all right. The other thing was he asked us what we usually set it at and I said that we usually set it during the day between 67 and 68. He looked at me and said that was a bad idea.
He wasn't forthcoming. He didn't explain anything. We're new homeowners and we've never had a house with central air before. So, at the end of the call, he said he didn’t know what was going on with our unit. It seemed to be working fine for him and then, he just left. As a homeowner, I was not satisfied with that answer. So, I contacted American Home Shield and I filed a complaint. I don't know that they take complaints on contractors but they should because this guy was absolutely horrendous. They wanted a second opinion and they sent this guy and I don't trust him. He has shown that he didn't take pride in his work. He was unprofessional and did the bare minimum.
Also, when I talked to him on the phone, he kinda went off on a tangent with me about how homeowners just want new units and other contractors are just willing to appease the homeowners and give them new units at the cost of the home warranty company. He was basically calling me a fraud, a cheat and a liar. I didn’t care if it was a new unit. I just want it fixed. The unit is 20 years old and it's gonna break down but I'm not asking for new unit. I never once said that they should give me a new unit. I may have said that Sims Electric is making it known that they suggest a replacement unit but I never once said that I want a new unit. I just want a working air conditioning because my wife is miserable. So, I contacted American Home Shield and told them about how horrible this guy is and that I'm not satisfied. I made a request of another company to come out as a second opinion for me because I've been doing this whole runaround.
Right now, at this point, we're hitting about a month that we've been dealing with this issue. When we got this home warranty program from when we bought our house, I knew there would be a little bit of a runaround. I expected that but this brought it to a whole new level that I was not expecting. American Home Shield was very accommodating. They said that they would send out Barbour Heating and Cooling out at Albion. I said that was fine and they contacted me the next morning. They said they could come out this morning. I'm still home and I wasn't going back to work until the following week because I was on vacation. I'm supposed to be relaxing at this point but I’m not even getting a chance to do that.
Barbour Heating and Cooling came out and took a look at everything. This guy was absolutely phenomenal. If American Home Shield could duplicate this guy over and over again, they should do it. This guy was fantastic. He explained everything to me. He hooked up his little gadget to the air conditioner and the compressor. He showed me where everything's running and where it should be running at.
He asked where we set our air conditioner at and I said that we usually set it between 67 and 68 degrees. He said that was too low and on a day like this, I don't wanna set it that low because the air conditioner is working too hard. Right now, the Freon's pumping through at 33 degrees and if I get any colder than that, our unit's gonna lock up, which is probably why I ended up with water in my basement. He took the time to explain what I should be doing, what I should expect and how I should operate the system. After he left, I felt comfortable with how everything was sitting and we actually haven't had any issues with our air conditioner since.
We do apologize for the inconvenience and your work was not properly done. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience. We do appreciate you for sharing your experience, and allowing us assist. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

I have been a AHS customer since Aug 23, 2014, 9:25 PM and have been paying premiums on time. 4 days back we noticed a hissing sound from the wall near washer dryer and through the small opening in the wall noticed the copper pipe spraying water from what seems to be a rusty connection. Called AHS and the first contractor assigned called back stating they cannot come till 2 weeks, called back AHS and the rep mentioned my work order will be in an open queue and whoever has availability will pick it up. Didn't happen since the second contractor who called me had same 2 weeks delay. Third time is a charm and the contractor this time had appointment in 4 days so he came today and took pictures and mentioned that valve that is connected to the pipe is out of code so he has to repair it but he knows AHS may not cover pipeline modifications and asked me if I'm willing to pay $450 out of pocket.
I requested him to verify the coverage once and he gave me a letter stating the diagnosis done and he will call them to verify coverage and get back to me later, if AHS is going to cover it. I got an email an hour later from AHS to call me since there are limitations. When I called they mentioned that the technician wrote in their diagnosis about moving water heater away to fix the problem and putting it back which will not be covered and will cost $750 out of pocket. I mentioned to AHS rep that there is an utility sink that can be moved to access the wall and they mentioned that I have to work with the Technician if that's feasible. So far, I'm extremely disappointed being a long time loyal customer that, first the access fee is not covered which means if you have things like plumbing concealed (which is typical in american homes unless its a basement where sometimes pipes and wires are exposed), you will end up paying a hefty fee out of pocket.
If you look at my scenario, the actual quote for fix is around $450 which AHS might pay but the access fee is $750 which I have to pay. And, I have already paid monthly premium and the diagnostic fee of $125. I feel this is a ripoff and deceiving practice and honestly don't recommend AHS anymore. I used to refer them to my colleagues and friends since in the past I had minor issue with Refrigerator turning off automatically and the technician assigned to me from Sears repairs fixed it with some simple fix and AHS didn't give me trouble with approval. Feels like simpler issues are covered but as things get complicated, you are really at the mercy of it being easily reachable otherwise, the out of pocket cost is huge.
Right now, I left a voice mail to the first technician who came here to see if he work around by using the utility sink gap so we can avoid water heater access fee. Otherwise, my plan is go for a second opinion. If both don't work, I'm going to cancel AHS. Why? Because I recently found out another competitor has a $500 automatic approval for issues like this so the technician doesn't need to call the warranty company before they start the work. Sounds like a better option to me. Thanks AHS for all the peacefulness you give me after purchasing the warranty while screwing me when the time comes to repair where I see the true color. How do you expect all the issues to be accessible without need to move around anything. I wanted to make sure whoever is planning to go with them is aware of this big limitation.

I will never recommend American Home Shield to anyone. They only print the letters that praise them. I have been waiting for my $717.17 buyout that they offered to me since June 21, 2020. They were supposed to credit me half of $125.00 for my service call on June 11, 2020 because the refrigerator was never fixed. AHS sent a dirty used part for the inside of my refrigerator that didn't even work. Customer Service puts you on hold and never come back to talk to you. They have 5 different phone numbers to call and each one forgets about you or hangs up. I sent in all my info that I purchased a new refrigerator on June 23, 2020 and was told I would receive my check in 7 to 10 days. Today is July 22, 2020 and I am on the phone again. One time after on hold for more than an hour, I spoke with a rep. She placed me on hold. We were disconnected and she never called back. Our dishwasher has been broken since March. First technician came out twice, only to tell us that he could not fix it, did not know how to fix it, and even bragged about how he's doing us a favor to not come back because he has seen this problem before and previously it took him 6 times to give up. Then AHS assigned GE to come out and repair (our dishwasher is made by GE). The unprofessional technician from GE told me our dishwasher is not broken and working like it should. (Imagine the frustration!) AHS promptly closed the ticket - even though nothing was fixed. I had to resubmit, then was assigned a third tech. A few visits later, the dishwasher worked - TWICE, and broken again. Same tech came out, and told us we need a new dishwasher. That's weeks ago.
Online portal on AHS says the job is complete. Calling AHS, they tell me it has been sent to authorization and authorization has approved us for a NEW DISHWASHER but no one can tell us how to get it! Weeks have gone by, no one would call us. When we get transferred to "authorization", we are on hold for hours with no one picking up the phone. I have tried calling authorization 5 times already, waiting 2 to 5 hours each time until I give up, as no one would answer the phone. This is BEYOND FRUSTRATING. If it's this hard to get a dishwasher replaced, I can't imagine how hard it would be if we had to get a new AC. Awful awful awful.

Had an issue with the garbage disposal. AHS sent out Home Choice Services who advised me that since the disposal still grinds, they can't do anything even though the blades make a horrendous noise (which I was advised is due to its age - - and the policy states it covers normal wear and tear). I was advised by Matthew that since it grinds, they can't fix it, but they would be more than happy to install a new one at their additional fee, outside of AHS warranty. I was not happy and was then contacted by Rocco of Home Choice who said he would come out and look. He missed 2 appointments with no communication. I had to call them to get them to reschedule, which again was a no show.
Then AHS closed the order. I reopened the order and AHS sent it back to Home Choice who said they would have their scheduler get in touch with me...just about a week..no communication and their phone is annoying music and cannot leave message. I attempted to contact AHS via phone and it is either a 1+ hr wait on the phone or "call back at another time". I feel the service fee paid is a rip off as all the contractor did was tell me it makes noise. This noise can be heard over 100' away....

I paid and put in a request to have my Air Conditioner fixed since April 27, 2020. 3 months later after many, many phone calls and dealing with different people, I’m still waiting. In the meantime, I have mold growing in my ceiling from the AC that has not been repaired. I have 4 children in my home. They are charging me over $1700 to fix it, they say that’s my part aside from my $100 fee yet here I am still waiting and nothing, absolutely nothing has been done, however; they made it perfectly clear that the mold that is growing because of the AC that has not been fixed and the damage that is still ongoing is not going to be covered and is not their problem, yet I’m still waiting to get my AC fixed.
The contractor came out immediately to diagnose, but no one has come to fix in 3 months. This is ridiculous! No recourse. They even went as far as to somehow completely close the ticket out and process a new one so it wouldn’t look like I’ve been waiting over 3 months to get this fixed. It says there is no cap on AC yet here I’m being charged $1700. Very, very poor service. No urgency in fixing AC when temperatures have been up to 107 degrees here in California.

I am very dissatisfied with the good times with American Home Shield. I called customer service and was on hold for over an hour. Then I was transferred to the service department and was hold for 4 hours. This was the fourth time in 4 weeks that I had hold times of three plus hours. Totally over 25 hours. I was following up on my refrigerator That had been broken for over two months. When I logged in the web page my fridge showed as being closed. Yet the refrigerator had to be unfortunately be replaced.
At the time the fridge broke, the repairman recommended a new door that was available. The parts department sent a seal that didn’t fix the problem. Then three weeks later the door was no longer available forcing me to a new fridge. When I called and held for 3 hours and 15 minutes to discussed the door handle on the fridge that was suggested, the parts department could answer the question.
I made a trip to look at the suggested fridge to see if the handle could be switched from left to right. Home Depot answered the question in minutes. I then called back and held over four hours to discuss the change in handle and was told I selected Home Depot and they issued a card to purchase that I never received not wanted. I never activated a card. Had zero apology for the hold times. Zero communication to see if my fridge was fixed. I was told by the supervisor that they only have 5 people working. Unacceptable! Really despicable! I just wanted the refrigerator door fixed! The replacement was fine just needed the handle switched and not 1 out the 5 people could help.

They then said the contractor would contact me within 24 hours to set up a date to come out, which they did, and my interaction with them has been good. They contacted me promptly. They showed up when they were supposed to and did the work quickly. They added Freon and sealant. It's a very quick and convenient process. I was very satisfied.

Mr. Fix It Appliance Repair came in and was here for about 15 minutes. They made a diagnosis and put a new switch in my microwave, and it was done. They were wonderful. I'm very pleased with the service. I also recently had a new air conditioner put in and it took over a month to go through the process of fixing it then replacing it, and fixing it again then replacing it, and ordering parts. The company that did the work was great, but it took too long, especially in the heat of summer. I’m a single woman owning my home and I also have kids at home who live upstairs. I had to buy window units just to make sure that they could not fry in their rooms at night while we’re waiting for the service. So I have mixed opinions about American Home Shield but for the most part, I love the service. Submitting a claim to them is super easy and the follow-up is great.

The contractor replaced the thermostat and now it works perfectly. We love the company that came out. They fixed the AC within the same day. They were amazing.
We had another issue with another appliance. We waited for a company to come out but they never came out. American Home Shield replaced the company. They came out and when we went over the problem with them, they said it required a whole bunch of work. I needed a cash out instead. So I called American Home Shield. They said that it was another department and they would have them call me but they never called. So now I try to get through but I can't. It's a over three-hour wait. The company called back and said they have the parts. But we wanted a cash out so we're still waiting for the call, and that was two weeks ago.

I had some issues going on in my house and it was taking me longer than I expected to get things fixed. I had an HVAC guy come out and he wasn't able to get to the problem. Then, I had a second opinion come out and they fixed it within 15 minutes. Also, I had a plumber come out for something kinda related to the same issue and the plumber wanted to blame the HVAC guy. He told me that it was an HVAC issue and didn't check to see what the actual source of the problem was. Somebody else came out and they fixed it within 20 minutes.
It's like the luck of the draw. When I get good contractors to come out, they are good and they're able to fix the problem. But trying to get people to fix what is there drags out the process for me to contact American Home Shield. Getting assigned a contractor and then scheduling for somebody to come out is a week. And getting a second opinion, that means the issue is still there for another week, causing more damage than it really needs to be done. Some of the contractors seem like they don't wanna do the work and that has been a headache for me. But American Home Shield has been great at getting me what I feel I need for the betterment of my home. As a whole, they have been helpful with all the things that have been falling apart and at the same time, it has helped me manage my home better.

I’ve been having issues with the refrigerator. I called Home Shield a year ago. That was the third time it was out. A-1 came out the first time because water kept dripping in the bottom. The tech walked in, in five minutes he told me I had to take everything out and defrost the refrigerator, but he guy didn’t do anything for the day. He didn’t do a good job because in five minutes he told me I needed to do the work. That aggravated me. I did it and fixed it for a while.
And then I had to call again four months later because it started doing it again. This Dave, the guy from A-1 Appliance Service, came out and then we started talking. Told him what to do. I said, “I know you’re supposed to blow these lines out, blah blah blah.” He fixed it. Plus, the icemaker wasn’t working too, so he had to order a part and come back, so he fixed it. He’s a good guy. But then the icemaker quit working again. He had to come back and order an icemaker. Now, I have a feeling I’m about to get him back out on the freezer. He had to put Freon, and then it would get cold, but then it seemed like it doesn’t cool as much. And then he said it could be some of the copper lining in the walls of the refrigerator. It could be leaking Freon. But he did a great job.

They were quick and courteous. With these times, they asked to put on a mask and if they wanted me to put on a mask. They went upstairs, looked at one thing then they spent the majority of the time outside. That was all right. They were fine and my AC is working now. The young man from Lake Area Appliance Service who came out to do my dishwasher was great. He called, made an appointment and told me he was coming. He came, looked and took care of everything. I have a problem with American Home Shield though. When my AC broke down, I called them and they sent someone out to take a look at it. I told them not to send that company out to my house anymore. The person who came out to my house was very rude and very disrespectful. I ended up calling his company and then let the supervisors know. So, the supervisor called me and did apologize to me. Then they sent another young man out. He was very respectful and he looked at my AC and said that I need a whole new unit. He sent it over to American Home Shield. I talked with AHS. It was a lot of money. They told me what they would cover and what they wouldn’t cover, so I really wasn’t set on that.
I said, “Could I get another valuation? One lady helped me. She’s really nice. She said, “We can send somebody else out from a different company, get you a second opinion before you spend all your money.” So, they called another company. The man came out, and by this time, my AC didn't pop back on. It came back on. He said, “Oh, there’s nothing wrong with your AC.” I said, “No. There's something wrong with it.” It just wouldn't shut down like that.
I went like five days without AC. The first company said I needed a whole new air handling unit. Then the next man come out said there was nothing wrong with my AC. After the second man came out, he gave his evaluation. American Home Shield didn’t contact me back at all. I called them and I said, “Hey, the second person came out, says was nothing wrong with my AC. But no one has called me back to see what I need to be doing from there.” Everything was going through authorization. He did mention that my thermostat was off. So, I figured he put that in the report. I called them back. Whoever pulled my report said, “We don't see anything about a thermostat.” I said, “Well, that's fine. But I had two people come out and two reports came in about my AC. So, I need the authorization to look at the reports and tell me what do we need to do next.”
No one has still called me about my AC and said, “Ms. Smith, the first person said this was what’s totally wrong. This person said, nothing wrong with it. Where are we at with your AC? Are you up and running? Is it back down?” There was nothing. This has been at least three weeks. I've been with American Home Shield for 15 years. I give my money regularly. Then A-1 came out like they were supposed to and did a great job. The tech that they sent out, Steve, is very impressive.

They were sending me emails and I was not very happy with that. It took me two and a half to three hours to get that straightened out. I was talking to people in the Philippines that I could not understand. They are trying, but the first woman that I talked to was overwhelmed. She didn't know the system. She didn't know what she was doing. Another thing is that it probably took me about 40 minutes to get ahold of somebody. The next time, it took me probably an hour to get ahold of someone else. I didn't get any callbacks. Home Shield was terrible. They could get somebody that speaks English fluently. They should also get their people to know their system.

The AC unit wasn't working and we had a guy come out but he is no longer with the company. We weren’t happy with him. American Home Shield sent another guy the next day and he knew more. But he kinda rigged our AC and took out a part that was supposed to be there, and it hasn't been replaced. It’s the pressure release valve, which temporarily fixed what was wrong with our AC. Then a couple months later, our AC went out again and the guy who came this time was a lot more knowledgeable. I saw a little bit what we had there and he knew what he was doing. He replaced another part we had that was acting up and it didn't take him long to do that.
Since this last guy has been out, the AC has been working fine. It’s loud because of what the guy did beforehand and the guy that we just had said that he would bring it up to the company. We haven’t heard anything back but the last technician shouldn't be faulted at all for it. He did a great job and we were very impressed with him. With American Home Shield, that's who they defer to, and we have the option to switch out but I'll use the company and I could refer them because of the last guy we had. But I'm done with the other two people before this last guy came out. American Home Shield has been great. I brought up the problems I had and they got right on it. But there are things that happen that the average person has no idea on what's what. So, a person goes on the site sometimes, it'd be like, "Leak." But we don't know if it's a leak or not. I think the ability to talk to someone is a better process versus having to pay $100 just to file the claim only to talk to somebody who may not even call back. I ended up filing the same claim twice because before I could even get to talk to someone, for the most part, I had to go through the process. I just wanted him to clean, and then I know how to clean in the future. I didn't know that the system needs to be cleaned. So, in that term, it was helpful. It was good.
We had another claim. The air conditioner was not working well. I mentioned that problem to Dandi too. But then they said, “It’s old air conditioner. It can’t be fixed.” But the company AHS sent, although the reviews were not good on the internet, this guy was knowledgeable. He found out the problem and he was able to fix it. The only problem was that American Home Shield does not cover the Freon gas that had to be emptied and filled in, and that's expensive. It’s $150 per gallon. American Home Shield, according to this company, was only paying $10 of it. So, I ended up paying $870. If they could cover more of it, at least maybe 50% of it, that will be better. But at least the problem was fixed. The air conditioner works very well now.

More Than Plumbing came to work on our plumbing issue. They were efficient. They were running late but they always called us to let us know. I appreciated that. They went to Home Depot to get the part and they did what they were supposed to do. They did the job and they were gone. They were great. American Home Shield takes out the anxiety if something breaks in your house. I love it. It's very simple to submit the claim online and if I have a problem, I can call them. They are great.

Water was leaking from the bottom of the refrigerator. So I had CK Appliance Repair come out to figure out where the water was coming from. The service was good. The refrigerator has been working fine since. Every time I call American Home Shield, the issue has been resolved. I would definitely recommend them. It’s easy to work on their website. I just wanted to hurry up and get it done and I didn’t feel like calling in. I was then told that somebody would be calling in.

I live in an older home and it's good peace of mind for having coverage from American Home Shield on items in the home. I had sinks that were running slow and one of them was completely clogged. I called the office and the AHS reps were great. They told me that I would hear from them and then they would let me know a window when All Clear Plumbing & Drain was coming. The service from the plumbers was great but they did put a ding in some woodwork in my bathroom. Other than that, everything has been perfect since they've been out. This repair was definitely needed.

I made my first claim on June 6th. This was for the AC and the contractor came out a total of 5 times. The first time, it was misdiagnosed. They thought that it was a dirty filter. I was shocked but we changed it. An hour later it was hot. Somebody else came back out and we needed a coil, which was partially covered. They came back out, put the coil in and left. It didn't work so they came out again. Then there was another part that was not good so they came out and fixed it. The fifth time, it worked, but they knocked the hose away from the drain. This unit is in the attic and they made a horrible mess because if it drains on the floor in the attic, it's gonna go right into the ceiling. Now, I've gotta hire somebody to come and paint the ceiling so I'm not really happy.
My biggest complaint with American Home Shield is that I felt like it wasn't something I could just do online because there wasn't any place to really explain what was going on. I would have to make a phone call and my longest recorded call was an hour and 40 minutes on hold. It was 100 degrees out here in Missouri but they probably have a lotta calls and I'm assuming that they’re maybe working from home as well because I can hear dishes and kids. We've had American Home Shield for a very long time and it’s the first time that I've ever been dissatisfied.

I had a home warranty but I didn't like it. A friend had American Home Shield. At the end of the contract period, I dropped my home warranty and went to American Home Shield. I called them when my dishwasher stopped working and their rep seemed okay. They said that within 48 hours, I should be contacted and Dan McCain Appliance did. Their guy came out and said that he had to order a part. He did that and when he put it on, he realized that there was another problem. He had to order another part. He called me and said because of the whole COVID and everything, the parts have been backlogged. And so he's waiting for parts. I haven't had a dishwasher for almost a month but I can't say it’s his fault. He seems like a nice guy. He explained to me what was going on. And although I couldn't ever get him when I called, he always called back. It was not like he had a secretary or somebody there answering the phones.

I had American Home Shield when I first moved in the house and then, we went with another company. I picked back up with American Home Shield in May. My garage door wasn't working properly. It wasn't letting up and down, and it was flashing light. I went online and submitted my claim to AHS and somebody got in touch with me the very next day. The contractor came out the day after that. So, it was rapid. The guy changed a couple of sensors on the garage door for me and it's still working perfectly fine.

We just moved into this house and I wasn't quite sure about the electrical setup. The house was built in 1974 and there were some light switches that were out or if they weren't out, I didn't know which switch worked what. On a Tuesday, I called American Home Shield and talked to someone to submit a claim. I got an appointment for that Thursday between 2:30 and 3:30 and Mr. ** of Crabtree Electric & Construction was there at 2:30 on the dot.
The way the house was wired (in some instances, between rooms), was wonky. For instance, there was one switch that turned the light on, but I had to go to another room to turn the light off and he fixed that. He put light bulbs in to show me that these fixtures work too. There was also a light that was out underneath a stair, and he fixed the outside outlets. Overall, he did everything that I asked and he went above and beyond. He was perfect and he was very nice as well. Any fixtures that needed to be taken care of or rewired, he did them and now, they're functioning great.
My plumbing experience was different though. Again, we're in a house that's new to us and I wasn't quite sure how good the plumbing worked because the house was empty for a year. Before then, it had renters and people who are renting usually don't take care of things. I called American Home Shield back in June and the person I spoke with didn't speak English well. When he did speak English, I could barely understand him. I also made sure that I had enough money in my account so that when he said they were gonna charge me $75, it would go through. He told me the charge went through and then my check didn't bounce or anything, but I was surprised when they sent me a bill.
I thought it went through, but evidently it didn't, so I called my bank. It was not necessarily a mix up in the bank, but a lot of funds were coming into my bank at the same time. That day, I paid and it went through. However, that night and the next day, how ever long it took for American Home Shield to submit my payment, my payment didn't go through because other bills have come through that didn't come through before. It was a matter of timing and when they sent the bills. Had American Home Shield done it that night, they would not have had to send me a bill.
Also, I was trying to explain to the representative that there were slow leaks in my bathtub, in my showers, and in the sink and he was reading off a card. He could not quite get the concept that showers are in bathtubs at the same time as well. I was trying to explain to him that we have two showers and then we have a bathtub with a shower. I also told him that I have three full bathrooms, and then I talked about the kitchen sink. When I received the message that Pipe Dream Plumbing got the contract, I called them immediately to find out if American Home Shield related what my problem was. They didn't because the rep got it all mixed up.
It turned out that my order read, “fix the kitchen garbage disposal.” Still, it was just that one glitch. That person trying to understand what I was trying to say while I was trying to understand what he said. Other than that, American Home Shield has helped us out tremendously with our two claims. The contractors, both electric and plumbing, were fabulous and I would call them back in a heartbeat.

I don't like American Home Shield. I’ve been with them a long time and I don't like the service. There are also a lotta things about them that I do not like. For the air conditioner, they charged me twice separately and it was a long process to get my money back. I had a guy come out here to fix the washing machine and I already paid my money to these people. I probably would've told him to get out and just use somebody else, but at that point I didn't really have time for all that ‘cause I needed the washing machine done. Then something was wrong with one electrical plug and they wanted tell me that wasn’t covered in the warranty. It was just back and forth, back and forth. The man came out and fixed it anyway.
The air conditioner and heating is one unit in itself. Their contractor was supposed to come out here to service it but they ended up charging me. They make you pay up front before you even get your service done. I used to pay the people when they came. I went on and paid them when they did the service. As for plumbing work, they’ve been out here and fixed the garbage disposal. I paid for the garbage disposal and something was clogged up in the drain in the same area. Just recently, I had to call them back out because my pipes were still leaking. All that should’ve been fixed two times ago. I would not recommend American Home Shield at all. Some friends of mine had American Home Shield and they were saying that they weren't satisfied with American Home Shield. I just swapped out for another home warranty.

Then I explained more on what exactly what was happening and they kept saying that they had to get it over to a manager to review it and they couldn't do anything within 30 days. So I gave it a few hours and called back a third time and they ended up helping me. J & K Plumbing was nice and quick and they fixed the issue. The shower is not leaking anymore. Our unit would come on and blow air, but the house was hot. The thermostat would read that the house is 80 degrees and it was set on 72, so it wasn't cooling at all. I did a claim online and someone called within 30 minutes of me filing it, and he was assigned to the case. We then had someone to come out the same day, which was perfect. On that particular day though, the tech wasn't able to do anything or didn't determine anything. When I called back again within the same week, the person I talked to had someone to come out the following day after calling back. The contractors then came in and went straight to the AC unit.
They did what they had to do and then the guy explained the different things he was going to do and what he did, and that was it. They did everything very efficiently and they were nice. The guy ended up doing a capacitor and everything's been working great ever since. One thing that I can recommend is about the service calls. When the contractors come out, it's $100. The previous company that I used to have would be $75. If American Home Shield can consider or try to lower that fee from 100 to a lesser amount, that would be beneficial.

We have made 3 claims with American Home Shield in our 5 years of being customers. The first 2 (ice maker and disposal) were completed somewhat satisfactory, although they took a long time to schedule service. The ice maker needed a new tray as a result of a leak in the system. The system was replaced and a tray was ordered. 3 months later we still do not have the tray, although AHS has this claim listed as completed. We have asked for information to no avail and are resorting to buying a new tray ourselves.
Our most recent claim was placed on July 11, 2020 for our ac. The earliest their approved technician could come out was July 14. It was determined that our compressor needed to be replaced. It is July 21 and we still have no end in sight. Every time we have called to get information (don't expect them to contact you) we were on hold for at least an hour. When the representative finally answers, they are basically sticking to a script and can offer no real guidance. The latest is that they were waiting for the purchasing department to buy the new compressor (we think, answers have been conflicting). When put on hold for them to contact the purchasing dept. they were never able to get through.
I have called the contracted ac company to hopefully get new information and they said getting parts through AHS takes longer and the earliest to expect anything is mid-late next week. That will put us at 2-3 weeks without ac in Florida, during a heatwave. We have had temperatures in the 90s everyday and over 100 with the heat index. AND, to add insult to injury, the entire repair is not covered. AHS will only pay $10/unit of Freon. Freon is $90/unit so we will be out well over $500 for that, in addition to the deductible. We are using borrowed window units and many fans to try to keep cool (not very effective: the temp inside at 1am was 88 degrees), and I am dreading next month's electric bill from this debacle. My mother is looking for a home warranty company and inquired as to how we liked AHS. Needless to say, I will NOT be recommending them. There's got to be a better company out there.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

My request for service on my broken fridge was submitted on June, 16, 2020, the first appointment was scheduled for June 19th. It is now July 21st, over a month later, and my fridge is still broken. The first service provider they sent, GM Appliance, was a horrible experience. The first tech pair that came spent a total of 1 minute actually looking at the fridge. I tried to explain the issue and one was completely rude, the other said nothing (which means I did not need to allow two people in my home in the midst of a pandemic). He told me a part was needed and it would be 5-7 days to be delivered.
I first attempted to follow up Thursday the following week with the appliance company and AHS. AHS informed me that the part should be delivered by Saturday, June 27th. I reached out to GM Appliance Monday and every day that week, left messages, and never received a return call. I contacted AHS again on Wednesday, and they were able to contact the company and scheduled the appointment for Thursday, July 2nd. A different tech came for this appointment. When I tried to explain the issue to him, while much more pleasant than the first pair, stated that he was only there to install the part and nothing else. He said that I would need to contact AHS if I had an issue and that the fridge should be up and running in a couple hours. It was not. It cooled down a bit, but by Saturday, July 4, I realized it was not staying cool.
I contacted AHS to report that the fridge was not repaired and my dissatisfaction with GM Appliance, and asked to have a different provider. I was told I would have to pay another service fee, to which I did not agree since the techs never took an accurate assessment of the issue. I was told that I could request that they not send the previous techs, and they did the exact opposite.
So now we are in week 3 (appointment, Friday, July 10th) of a broken fridge, they sent the same two techs (one rude and one silent), who did the same thing, opened the fridge closed it and said the part did not work and they would have to order it again. So not that there was a different repair, it was the same repair. I asked if there was anything else they should look at, and was told no and I would have to wait for AHS to decide what to do next. I asked if there was anything they can do to expedite the process and got a very rude “no, you’ll just have to wait”. I admit, I lost it on them a bit because the issue was not properly assessed either time and I now lost two refrigerators full of food 1-from the initial breakdown and another when it was supposed to be fixed.
I called AHS, again, and was told there was nothing I could do until they submitted the report. After several back and forth conversations, and pleas to come up with alternatives, I was assigned to a new company. They provided no details to the new company and basically had to start from scratch. Now I am in the second round of waiting for parts to be ordered so I can schedule yet another appointment for something that may or may not actually fix the refrigerator.
So I am literally paying for a service and received no service at all. I have had no refrigerator, in the middle of a heat wave, in the middle of a pandemic and the only answer I get is, "There is nothing we can do." I requested compensation for the loss of food because their provider was incompetent, I requested a refund for my service fee since to date, no service has been sufficient, and I even tried to cancel, but was told they don’t know how it will affect my current order. I have asked repeatedly to speak to a manager or supervisor and apparently they do not exist. I was told one would call me back, but the only call I received was a robo-call to complete a survey.
At this point, it will probably be easier to just buy a new refrigerator. It is a shame I paid for a service to alleviate such stresses only to be 10 times worse off. I did ask if I bought a new refrigerator could I submit to be reimbursed and of course was told no, because the techs didn’t report that it needed to be replaced. Never mind that there was no diagnosis at all at that point (this was in between the two companies), if they did not report it needed replaced, all I could do is wait.
This has been one of the worst customer experiences ever for me. It really makes me question the value of the warranty. I would rather have paid the cost of a new refrigerator to have my peace of mind and be able to properly care for my family in the middle of the summer, in the middle of a pandemic. I am extremely disappointed.
Thanks for sharing your feedback. I hate that we were not able to come to an agreement while the contract was active. We are working daily to improve the overall process and customer experience. We hope this does not discourage you from considering us in the future for your home warranty needs.

No problems requesting service on-line. They collect the service fee up-front which is fine if you resolve your issues quickly but if you have problems with the actual vendor that provides the service, can be upsetting. The vendor (Relaxed Heating & Air Inc.) responded to me the next day after the on-line request was submitted. They called made an appointment to come out to fix my A/C 7 days later (scheduled for 07/21/2020). I was not happy about the delay and asked if I could request another vendor. They supplied the "direct number" to American Home Shield. Kevin told me to call back to cancel if we were able to get another vendor. I tried calling AHS and was on hold for close to 1 1/2 hours while waiting for an associate. Finally had to hang up to leave my office.
I never called Relaxed Heating & Air Inc to cancel the appointment. We waited until the appointment date and called RH&A the morning of our appointment. Sabrina told me that our appointment was cancelled by the customer. Just like that. Despite my pointing out that I never called to cancel the appointment, the only thing Sabrina could do was give me the next available appointment on 07/29/2020 from 9-2. I accepted the appointment and am waiting for a call back from a supervisor (Parker). I am trying to reach American Home Shield for help in resolving this issue but so far, I have been on hold waiting to speak to an associate for 64 minutes. I guess the major issue with this company (AHS) is if you have a problem that you need assistance in resolving. No one is available to help you. So my experience is unsatisfactory for the poor customer service and lack of available associates to assist you if you have a problem with the vendor.

We had AC that needed to be repaired/replaced. I had an Independent Contractor evaluate the Unit the day it went on the blink and they determined the Compressor (outside unit) had bad coils that needed replaced. They cleaned the coils with water hose and waited on my response. I called AHS and the first company could not come until 6 days. Lost 1 day waiting for confirmation. Called and requested my Ind. Contractor and they declined as they were not on their list. I see there was a post that they were told as long as they received a detailed quote they would be acceptable as long as they were licensed. So which is true?
So they assigned me another Contractor. They confirmed next day and came the following day. His determination was the Air Handler Unit in the Attic had Bad Coils. Contradicting what the original Ind. Cont. (very reputable one) and asked that he verify with the 2 Technicians that were at my home. So I called AHS to discuss the difference in the evaluations and they just really were not concerned with the findings and did not state they would discuss with their contractor. She just kept going back to his diagnosis. I then requested if there were other options and she stated that I could go with the Cash Out Option. So as of today 5 days now I have no response as to what they would even do on our behalf. It still shows request pending and this is all they ever say on the phone. When they transferred me to that so called department I was disconnected immediately.
Many hours of setting on hold waiting for someone to pick up to discuss the status if any. I have hired the Independent Contractor who actually talked to me about the units and advised in the long run it would be best replacing both units due to their age. AHS would never recommend that I believe. Also, what they actually were NOT going to pay on the new replacement & labor of just the AHU was $1,725.00 they would not tell me what they were actually going to pay for the replacement Unit only the $10 of the $700 R22 Freon, which was warranted for only 90 days I think because of the bad condensing unit outside. If they make good on the Cash Out Option or if they would accept the other contractors diagnosis and replace both units. I will update my post.

I went online to request service over 3 weeks ago. Immediately they sent an email saying who was coming, Turner Electric out of Auburn CA. an electric co to do pool service. They came in 4 days, not electric. They will send a pool guy, 2 1/2 weeks later no pool guy, no phone call, no nothing. I called AHS 8 days ago and they said they would get right on it, well nothing, no phone call, no email...NOTHING. But of course they took my 75.00.

I've been an AHS customer since April 2018, when we purchased a vacation home in North Carolina. The warranty came with the purchase. Our first year, the AC fan broke down on one of our units and AHS dispatched a competent service in a reasonable amount of time. Thus, we renewed the service. The following year, we had a different problem--one involving a failed relay on the heat pump. The repair person they sent added refrigerant (which was not needed and was quite expensive) and did not determine the source of the problem. We ended up hiring a local contractor on our own dime after I diagnosed the problem (which made it impossible to turn off the fan, which was blowing 90 degree air into the home).
We also used AHS to bring in a plumber for a running toilet, which was handled competently (but did not really save us any money, since it would have been a cheap repair). Nevertheless, we decided to renew for 2020. This year, our garbage disposal broke down. We made a request, was charged the deductible, but it turns out the contractor was no longer servicing for AHS. Unfortunately, AHS does not provide any web options to notify them of that fact, so I tried calling. After 2 hours on hold, I was disconnected. Finally, I tried submitting another request, but it was routed to the same contractor that was no longer working for AHS. (At least I wasn't charged for that request, since it was within a month).
Now, the fan on another one of our AC units appears to have failed. I decided that rather than being charged another deductible and then having no one show up (or someone less than competent) I would cancel my policy and pay for both the garbage disposal and AC repair out of pocket. Currently, I have been on hold with their "cancellation department" for 28 minutes, and have little optimism that I will ever get through. Which means that I may to cancel my credit card to get them to stop billing me.
If you look at the AHS website, they provide no means of contacting them except a phone number and email addresses to report privacy concerns and security concerns. It is regrettable that the only way to communicate concerns to the company is through writing a negative review. I understand that COVID-19 has played havoc with businesses, and would be sympathetic to a company that attempted to resolve my concerns in good faith. But I believe the company is in over its head at the moment.

On July 2nd I submitted a service request (**). The tech came on July 7th and stated he would not be able to get parts for my microwave as it is 6 years old and AHS would contact me to get it replaced. I waited 1 week to hear from AHS and in that time, I was not contacted by anyone. So, I called and was told AHS was in the process of approving a replacement. As of today I still have not heard from anyone. So I called again. I was on hold for an hour only to be transferred to another department where I sat on hold for 2 hours. I still had not spoken to anyone and had to end the call. I think giving up 3 hours of my day is sufficient enough time to sit and wait on hold. But, my claim has yet to be resolved and I DO NOT have that kind of time to sit on hold.
On July 20th, I sat on hold for 6 HOURS until their lines closed down at 8:00pm! I am on the phone again with them this morning. I called at 8:00am hoping to talk to someone. GUESS WHAT? I have been on hold now for 46 minutes and the message when you call is a 10 minute wait time. This is being the worst service I have ever experienced in my entire life. How does this company stay in business? I need this issue resolved immediately. I will be searching for a new home warranty provider as I can not justify the amount of money I pay each month to receive the poor and inept service AHS provides.

I have had several negative experiences with AHS. Marketing is great to get you to purchase a contract. It all ends there. This time, an appointment was made online for a pool pump problem. United Contractors was given the job and an appointment was set for two weeks later. The contractor arrived in the scheduled window and indicated I needed a new pump. He indicated he would coordinate with AHS about having the pump replaced and would be calling that day. That was two weeks ago. I called the United Contractors, but did not get a call back. From past experience, I know not to waste my time trying to call them because their customer service is so poor. I messaged AHS twice over the past two days, but have have only gotten an automated response. I just can't get any proper care or service from this company. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!

UPDATED 7/26/2020: I submitted a report on here hoping that American Home Shield would respond. I have been without a washer for 5 weeks. American Home Shield came out but still haven’t gotten an answer regarding my replacement. The hold times have been 5 hours long. Why am I paying for services that I can’t use?
ORIGINAL REVIEW: People be aware. I have been on hold with AHS for the past 5 hours and still on hold. Called MULTIPLE times last week, over the weekend and today and each time, my hold times have been hours long. Horrible business model. Sales dept answer within 3 min; replacement dept keeps you on hold for hours. Go figure- they are happy to start policies and take your money, but due their stellar customer service, can’t seem to answer the phone when something needs to be fixed. Due yourself a favor, spare your energy, time and money, and go with another company that is really there for their customers.

Our water heater went and leaked water on July 12. On July 14 AHS sent a company out who not only misdiagnosed the the reason for the issue, but recommended unnecessary modifications to being the replacement water heater up to code. My wife and I were suspect to this and requested a second opinion. On Thursday, July 16, a second company arrived and contradicted the first company’s diagnosis. And the tech discovered that our water heater was still under warranty from 2016. We requested the new company handle our replacement. We were told that before close of business on Friday, July 17 we would have authorization from American shone Shield to have the second company proceed with the water heater replacement.
We heard from no one and went without hot water all weekend. We called all day Monday, only to get the runaround from American Home Shield representatives, stating that since the water heater was under warranty, they were not responsible to do anything. However, we called the water heater manufacturer, AO Smith, who stated that home warranty companies at least pay for the labor, because they do not. We tried to reconnect with American Home Shield again but since the wait time is 60 minutes, we could not connect before close of business. American Home Shield obviously passed the buck and did not want to help us.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I noticed some of the toilets were not working right. One of them was messed up and one of them just wasn't operating correctly. The other thing was some of the water came out faster out of some of the things than the others and some of those things were right next to each other. The shower has two showerheads in it and in one of them, water came out a lot slower than the other. There are also two little sinks where you wash your hands and in one of those, water came out much faster than the other.
The main reason I submitted the claim was I'm paying for this warranty anyway so I might as well file a claim and have somebody that knows what they're looking at and mess with it as opposed to me just doing random stuff. However, submitting the claim was annoying. When I was looking through the options, I didn't really know how to explain what I wanted so I just clicked on what I felt was most accurate. There's not a whole lot of options there and if you're not familiar with that stuff, it's hard. I didn't know how to classify things. As far as the stuff that was covered, it all seemed minor.
The American Home Shield part is pretty quick but the plumbing company took a while to come out here. I kept trying to have them look at other stuff because I couldn't explain some of the stuff in the little portals that they have but I kinda got the sense that the tech was just there to check the stuff that was on the request and that was it. But they fixed the toilet. They had to make an adjustment to it and that does appear to be working a lot better now so that was good. As far the water pressure, the guy said there wasn't so much he could do. It was like a thing that he couldn't figure out why they were going like that. He did mess with the shower a little bit and he did make the water come out better now. I was okay with the work that was done, but I wasn't necessarily happy because you can still tell that they're coming out at different pressures. But the AC stuff has been fine. I recently had the contractor come back out.

I file claims with Home Shield online. I like the website. It’s easy to maneuver. Then, they give me the number of the contractor and tell me when they're expected to contact me and if not, to contact them. The contractors always contact me. In all three claims that I've had, the people were professional and accurate with the timeline. I had a dryer claim and True Vine Appliance Repair got the job done. I had to do a follow-up because a light came on but when the tech came back out, he said it was the vent that needed cleaning.

The technician from Anytime Lock & Key was wonderful. He rekeyed three locks in this claim. We also had a plumbing leak that we submitted to American Home Shield. We had to pay for the tile on our own but the contractor fixed it. We’re still waiting to hear back about someone coming to replace the sheetrock that was busted. So, we still have a hole in our ceiling from the hole they made for the plumbing leak and we have not heard back. They apparently routed it to the dispatch team, who was supposed to find someone to send out for sheetrock, but they couldn't find anyone and it's been about a week since we last heard anything.
We also had an air conditioning issue which we paid on our own to replace because the company that AHS sent out was terrible. We wound up going with a company of our own and the Claims Department was to call us back with an amount they were supposed to offer but that never happened and we've called many times. I called back again about the air conditioning and I was figuring out if they were gonna offer us anything or us just totally replacing it instead of keep paying to get it fixed. I still haven't heard anything.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

The pan in the air conditioning unit up in the attic overflowed and water went through the ceiling. James from the contractor, Changing Winds Heating, came out. He was great, personable, knowledgeable, and quick. He cleared the lines and dried everything up. The actual components of the unit itself were not broken but he repaired the issue that was causing the water to remain in the pan.

A family member of mine had American Home Shield. I had a sump pump go out and I shared it with her. She recommended that I get American Home Shield so I did. When I filed my first claim, they did what they said that they'd do. The rep kind of informed me of what the process was. She gave me the name of the company and told me that they'd be in contact or if I wanted to, I could reach out to them to arrange for a scheduled time for them to come out.
I contacted American Home Shield on a Friday morning and when I spoke with Reynolds, they did work Saturday but only a portion of the day so the earliest I was able to get them to come out was that Monday. When the gentleman came, he asked me where the unit was and I showed it to him. He did have a mask on in the wake of the pandemic, indicated that he'd be social distancing and hopefully whatever the matter was, it didn’t require him to come to my home. He took the system cover off and was able to identify what he thought it was. He went to his truck, got a replacement part, came back, asked me to turn on my unit, and it came on. It was a starter that he replaced. He also indicated that I was short on the refrigerant so he put another pound of it which he said was about how much I was short. The air conditioning unit has been working since.

American Home Shield has been great and I love it. Things would sometimes break up and I'd rather pay the $75 deductible than pay with a full price. I submitted the claim with them online for an AC issue and their website was very user friendly. A guy called right away, so everything was taken care of right away. He was very professional. He just came and did the job and he left. Everything has been good. He fixed the problem on the AC which helped a lot because it was very hot.

The claims process was really easy and smooth. I called on not the most convenient of times and AHS got everything set up. The company that they sent to me was in contact with me within minutes. Carolina Air Heating and Cooling came out for an AC issue. The guy found the problem up in the rafters with that system and he replaced the motor. It worked great for about a week or two and then it started getting hot in here. It was blowing air but it wasn't cold. He came back out, did a couple of tests, and filled the refrigerant. It's what I expected with the symptoms and Carolina Air has done a great job.
