American Home Shield sent Total Air Care out for an AC issue. They fixed it in no time and they did it wonderfully. The only thing is everything breaks on Fridays, and AHS doesn't offer Saturday service.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my AC unit and their techs from Always Air came out. They tried something and it didn't work. I called them back and they came again to try and fix it a second time. They did that and they were solid. They did a fine job. I like AHS's service so far. Every time I've ever had to call them everyone from there has responded professionally, came out and fixed whatever was necessary.

My husband and I were married and moved in here 18 years ago. The house came with the warranty and we kept it going. Within the first couple years, AHS replaced our hot water heater, our inside air handler, our outside air handler, and garbage disposal. It could have really cost us a lot of money if we were doing unplanned repairs. Instead, it was just the deductibles that we had to meet. We had an issue with the air conditioning unit and the contractor was absolutely really wonderful. They were very professional. They didn't have the part the first day but they kept us informed as to what was going on. The biggest thing was it was 100 degrees and they got the air conditioning unit fixed very, very quickly.

I'm asthmatic and I have Lyme disease and sometimes AHS doesn't seem to make things a priority that should be a priority. Somebody who have their air conditioning working ineffectively is a lot different than someone with respiratory issues who doesn't have any working. I know they're supposed to take care of things as first come, first served. But sometimes, there should be a little bit of prioritization.

A few years back, they were going to replace our dryer with a bare-bones dryer. I told them that that was not what I wanted. I've been living with a 30-year-old dryer and I wanted some with all the bells and whistles. But AHS didn't told me upfront that if I wanna upgrade, then I had to take a cash settlement from them and add our money to it to put a new one in. So we have done that with the dryer and the refrigerator too. But I wish they would have been more upfront about that.

My son has American Home Shield, and he told me we ought to sign up for it. Now, we've had them three months. One time, my dryer was making a screaming noise and the oven didn't work. I turned the claim in through the computer on Monday, and Star Services said they'd be out here on Friday. When the guy first came to troubleshoot, I wasn't impressed with him. When the same guy came back, he had an entirely different attitude and he did a very good job. They fixed my stove and my dryer.

The air conditioner didn't work, then I went online and submitted a claim with AHS. I always forget the password, so I went around the passwords. But I was still able to get the order. Still, I always have a problem or have a question to get them on the phone and I'd be waiting two hours on the phone. But at the time, I was working because it was midnight and I knew that the AC was broken and I wanted to go first. I still got the service three days after, though. When the people from Integrity Air Conditioning called, I told them I have a sick husband and that we couldn't have no air conditioning for a long time. But they couldn't come and the earliest was three days because they were booked up. I understood that because it's like having one doctor in the whole area. They were also very nice and they changed the parts on the AC.

Everything has been functioning very well since the repair and the tech even went to check the system of condenser in the attic, which was very hot. I'm in Florida and this happened during the hot days, so I didn't expect that. But he checked out everything and it was perfect. And this little part is breaking from time to time, but not every year, just every few years. I always have AHS sending me people here if I have a problem with the air conditioner and in my 11 years of being here, I had them out only three times.

All in all, I'm satisfied with AHS. Every year, they're doing an automatic fee renew, which is good. Their price is also in our budget, so that's why we're using them. But I have to talk to them about the renewal because I was promised a lot of stuff in the contract and this is very hard on us because it is very hard to get to them. Good service is not only good internet and website, but also to have somebody on the other line.

LA Standard HVAC did a great job. They explained to me what the issue was, and what stuff is covered by the warranty and what isn't. They figured it out pretty quickly. Less than 15 minutes. The things I thought that were covered weren't. That's fine. The problem had to do with installing one of those smart thermostats. That's not part of the coverage so I paid separately for that. The tech put in the thermostat. Everything works. I received prompt service from Home Shield. They kept me up to date, the contractor showed up on time. Everything is great. So far, I'm happy.

We bought our first house and some of the appliances are quite old. We wanted to have that protection for at least the first year of moving in so that if we did have a big expense, we would be covered. We decided to get a warranty and we’ve had American Home Shield since February. Our fridge was squeaking and it sounded like a dog toy. It had been doing that for a couple of months and then, it got a little bit worse. So, we figured it would be better to have it checked out and make sure that nothing was wrong before anything happens. I submitted a claim and the website was easy to navigate. So, it was good. They said that someone from Omega would contact us within 24 to 48 hours and that they would do the scheduling.

Omega was great and the technician was very prompt. He said that the squeaking noise was a fan on the back of the refrigerator that was starting to go out, so whenever it would kick on to try and cool the fridge back down, it would start to make that squeaking noise as it ramped up. He fixed the fan and we have not had a single squeak. It's wonderful. It's a lot less annoying to live with a quiet fridge than it is with a squeaking fridge and it eased our minds that our fridge wasn't going to die at a moment's notice.

I've just had Home Shield for about a year and on the recommendations of my daughter. She has had them forever and she always bragged about how good they are. My husband and I are getting older and we can't do as much as we're able to do in the past. I got the basic package. Our heat exchanger is on the roof of the garage. Our split system is outside. There is a hose that runs from the heat exchanger to the split system that drains the water out. However, it wasn't draining the water outside. We have a big puddle out there and diverting to my plants wasn't draining it. It goes through the house. It clogged up with gunk. I filed the claim on the internet. I thought it was going nowhere. Next day, Home Shield sent me a note and said Integrity would contact me, which they did. They also gave me Integrity's phone number.

I was amazed that I got a technician out here the next day. I called Integrity when Home Shield gave me the number. I said, "You guys are in Fort Myers, I'm all the way in Venice." The lady was very nice. She said, "We have service techs up and down the coast, so you're fine." It was a great experience. They took care of me real quick.

The tech came when he said he was coming. He called me and said they will be here the next day. In Florida, that's never the case. Down here, it's do it at your own time. The tech put a vacuum cleaner on the heat exchanger, sealed it and got the stuff out real quick and it quit leaking in our garage. He fixed it in 15 minutes. He said my unit was in good shape. He was very professional and quick. My husband made the remark, "Oh my God, something so easy." But now we know. Home Shield came through.

American Home sends a different company every time I file a claim. When my AC was blowing hot air, the technician that came was good. He explained to me that I just needed to purchase three gallons of refrigerant because there was no refrigerant that was why it wasn't cooling. The AC is fine for now. But he told me that there was a bunch of stuff wrong with the AC. He saw that my coils were really dirty and then he recommended that I needed to buy some kind of kit for it that would make the AC unit last longer. He also said that I'd need to hire someone to do it probably before next summer. But because we were at the end of summer, he said not to bother with it. Those are not covered by the warranty and I'd have to pay out of pocket.

I filed an AC claim with Home Shield and the phone call back was within a couple of hours. Then, Controlled Comfort came out the following day. It's pretty hot around here in the desert and that was a pretty quick response with everybody having problems. Also, the technician was great. We weren't able to really find out what the problem was with the AC. It shut down for a number of hours the day before he came out and he couldn't duplicate the conditions but he serviced it while I was here. Controlled Comfort was good and the AC seems to be working fine now.

I like American Home Shield's website. It works good and that's all I ever use. I filed a claim and they said I could follow up or I could just call. I called Douglas Mechanical and the people were real nice. They gave me a time. In fact, they installed the air conditioning unit on the Fourth of July holiday which I thought was pretty cool. The sales guy was real good. He walked me through it. It wasn’t that old of a furnace to replace it so I was kind of questioning the replacement. But the guy went through and explained about not being able to get parts because of the Coronavirus and I might have to wait 30 days. It was 100 degrees here that day and I said I didn’t want to wait that long. I upgraded from what the warranty would replace so I want a better unit to match the units I have. He was fair with me.

The 2 guys who came here were good too. They didn’t speak in English but that’s fine. They were real neat, very polite, and didn’t leave a mess. They followed up here earlier this week. They came back and inspected the unit they put in to make sure everything was good. They did the annual maintenance. I am very satisfied and I like American Home Shield. They've fixed a number of things. I've had them since I bought the house in ‘18 and I had them before on another property that I bought. I just renewed. In fact, I upgraded it. I went to a higher level plan. I've got to claim in now for a washing machine. Sometimes you gotta wait a little bit, but that's okay.

I called a claim in with AHS and they sent out South Belt A/C and Heating. The tech fixed it then he left. I also had an issue with the other AC unit where it stopped working and it was not cold enough. I thought the problem was the Freon but when the technician came, he said that it was the compressor and that they were willing to fix it. But I decided to replace the unit. American Home Shield sent Affordable Appliance Repair for an appliance issue. I called the contractor up before I submitted a claim. My glass-top on my stove cracked. Before I did anything, I called him up to see if it was repairable or whatever the case will be. He wanted a picture of the model number, so I took some pictures and I sent it to him and then he said they probably wouldn't be covered because it was not broken over the burner. It was more or less to the side of it. He was gonna look up the part and he was gonna let me know how much it cost and I’d probably have to pay it myself.

So, I went to same website. I put in my model number for my stove, and I seen a counter top that was gonna cost like $374. I thought, “Okay, if that cost that much, I don't know how much it's gonna cost for labor or shipping, or whatever. I might as well just go buy a new stove.” I tried calling the contractor back on Saturday, and I couldn't get a hold of him and he said he was gonna call me back today. But on Saturday, we bought a brand new stove. I didn't know he was trying to submit a claim without me submitting a claim to AHS before.

I got American Home Shield since I got my house back in '97, and I've been happy with the people that come out to me. I kinda got used to the people and I’ve put in on my profile to only call certain people when things happen. There was a plumber and he was really rude and nasty when he calls, so I told AHS, “I don’t want him no more in my house. I was using Value Rooter. They were pretty good but I heard they're out of business now. They did a job for me and I want to question them about it and I tried calling and the number is no longer in service. It was a plumbing issue on a sewer line outside of my house so it wasn't being covered.

I'm really satisfied with AHS. Whenever I talk to any family members of mine when they have an issue, I say, “Look, you see, get a home warranty like this for your house, for your appliances and plumbing and electrical." I like AHS. It would be good if they give me a lower price for my rates. They went up. I was happy with the 59. It’s kinda sliding up. Also, it’s no longer $75 for a service call. He charged me 80 something dollars. It was used to be a flat rate. Now they’re charging me more. I had them for years. They don’t give me any credit for being a loyal customer. Other than that, every time we had an issue, we call it in and the contractor calls us right back and it's been taken care of. It’s easy.

The sump pump wasn't turning off. There was an issue with the float, and so it effectively would just constantly run even if there wasn't water in the drain itself. So, we would have to unplug it to get it to stop running and then plug it in if we wanted it to run. I logged in to American Home Shield and filed the claim there. Their website was good. It was really easy to use and submit the claim. It told me to expect a contractor within a certain time frame.

Chicago Skyline came out and they were great. They called me the day before to let me know when they were available. Then the day they came, they called to see if they could come even earlier, which worked for us. They were really responsive. When the tech came, he was respectful of putting on a mask to come inside. So, it was great. The float handle was obstructed, and so he had to cut the PVC and rotate it so the handle could drop into the well. It's been functioning great since he fixed it. It's one less thing we have to worry about.

American Home Shield has responded really quickly. I'm really happy with the process. J-Tech Mechanical did great. I got a call pretty quickly after the work order was submitted. They scheduled and then did a follow up right before the individual was to show up. I've had it for about two years and my son has had it for seven years. He has really gotten good service out of a couple of different homes he has owned. But Home Shield does not offer preventive maintenance programs for HVAC systems. They should make a contractual arrangement with the service companies around the area for such programs. Last year, I put it in a claim for our swimming pool pump and I immediately got a call from an individual that was handling swimming pool equipment. He talked to me for a minute and he said that the underwater light wasn't part of the program. But they immediately reimbursed the $100 hold on the submittal work order.

I have two AC units and one of them was not blowing cold air. It was set at 80 and it was 87. And in Arizona, that's not a good thing. So, I shut the air conditioner off because it does the bedrooms, then we closed all the bedroom doors and we just slept in the other half of the house that night. I contacted American Home Shield online and they set up an appointment for me the next day. The gentleman called me that night and said he could be here between 12:00 and 3:00. He showed up at 12:45 then he told me to go in and turn the air conditioner on and set it to 68. When I turned the air conditioner on and set it to 68, it blew cold air. At that point, he hadn't looked at anything yet.

He then proceeded to say that there are three different things that could cause that and he checked all three of them on the unit. It's a split unit, half outside, half inside. Everything he said would be on the outside and he said that all of that checked fine. He also said that if the problem happened again, he wanted me to come out to the unit and check certain things right there. He showed me exactly what to check and said that it could just be an intermittent failure that hadn't gone all the way yet. He said that if this line didn't cool, that means it was broken and to call him. He told me that if this thing ain't working, I should call American Home Shield and they'd send him back out. He was a very nice gentleman and he did a very good job. I was very happy. The AC worked since then, too.

Other than that, I found out after purchasing the warranty that if something breaks, AHS doesn't put in new units, they put in rebuilt units. I was unaware of that because it's buried in the small print and I don't know if that would have stopped me from getting the policy. But I didn't find out until I had to use the policy on my pool pump. The techs came out and said they'd put in a rebuilt unit. They also said that that was all that AHS would pay for. I dumped the pool insurance as a result of that because it was $200 a year and all it basically covers is the pool pump. A brand new pool pump is $400, so it wasn't worth me spending $200 a year to get a rebuilt pool pump.

Despite that, I'm gonna keep getting AHS because ultimately, these air conditioners are gonna break. They were here when I moved into the house and I don't know how old they are. And I'm 70 years old. Sometime in the next 10 years, they'll break and I won't even care if they put in a rebuilt unit because I won't be here more than another 10 years.

I had a tub leak and plumbing issues with the shower as well as the kitchen faucet sink. I called American Home Shield, then they called and told me the name of the contractor that was coming. Then, the contractor called to verify the appointment. But the first people who came out were terrible. Then, I was switched over to Plumbing Enterprises and they provided good service. Since they came out, everything has been working fine, but the only thing they did was the kitchen sink. Other than that, AHS has been excellent.

I had an appointment for Master Pro Repair to come out but I did not get a confirmation that they would come so I called them. I could not get any information and eventually, they did not come. So, I called Home Shield again and told them. They made another appointment but the same thing happened again. I'm having an issue with my icemaker which is now going on three weeks and it still is not repaired. I'm also having a problem with my freezer. The guy told me that they go hand in hand but didn't do anything about it because maybe that was a second repair. And then, I do understand that we're in a pandemic and people are working from home and we're under extenuating circumstances, but to get to anybody, I'm not pleased at all.

It takes Home Shield an awfully long time to get business taken care of. It's not a right-away process. I call my claims in and it usually takes over an hour or two to get through. And then, once the date has been made by Home Shield, I don't know who will get back with me to let me know that it has been made and when they are coming. Home Shield could be a more responsive. Also, on their website, I don't see a place where I can communicate with them the problems I'm having, and that's why I had to do it by phone. I would like something that allows me to get ahold of somebody online and a place where you can write your concerns.

We had a clog in the sink in the bathroom and the bathtub. It was on Saturday that I submitted the claim and someone from American Home Shield gave me a call telling me that I was supposed to call the contractor directly and set up an appointment. I called them on Monday and they came the day after so it was quick. I was satisfied. The person came in and pulled out like bunch of hairs out of the pipe and that was it. It seemed like he knew what he was doing. It resolved the issue and we got no problem so far. That was my first time claiming using the website but it was easy. However, from the service that I received, I noticed that American Home Shield doesn't cover outdoor stuff like my front yard or backyard. It would have been a lot better if they did. We wanted to fix the sprinkler in the backyard. We assumed they would cover it but they didn't.

Initially, my Nest thermostat and my AC was acting up. It was making weird noises and my thermostat just kept shutting off. It said there was no power. Repair people came out and they said that the battery on the thermostat was bad. They went up in the attic and found that the condenser and the fuse were bad. They replaced that and the unit ran well. But two days after that, it was still running but there was no air coming out of the vents. I thought maybe it was just the frozen condenser. I turned it off for three hours then I went back and it turned on for about five minutes. Air was coming out but it stopped again. No air was coming out of the vents.

I initially put another work order online through American Home Shield saying that it was the same issue. It was like 9:30 at night. Vail Heating & Cooling came out yesterday and they got up in the attic. They said that the motor or something was not running and that the bearings were bad. My master bedroom was 89 degrees for the last two days because the unit was not on at all.

I hate anybody going in the attic because it's Arizona, it's really hot. But the Vail people didn't hesitate. Their guy was up there for 30 minutes. He then came down and said he needed to go buy a part. He had to drive to a store to get it. He came back, went back up in the attic, and spend another 20 minutes up there. He put the part in there and the unit came on then he left. They had another guy come out yesterday and they ordered a little bit. They called me this morning and said the piece they got in was a generic one. I have a Carrier AC unit and they can't use the generic part. They had to get the Carrier part. They then said they would come out this afternoon to fix it.

When I bought my new house, American Home Shield was offered to me during the closing and I got them. I rented my other house out which I had American Home Shield too. They have been great. I've had a few work orders here and there and all pretty much minor stuff. The only issue I had was the fact that I had a leak in my Freon on an AC unit two years ago and I had to pay $47 a pound. That was like 15 pounds so $900 out of pocket. I went three days without AC and it was like 110. But I was happy to pay the money as long as the unit worked.

He told us what to do inside and walked us through the whole process since he couldn't go inside to check to make sure things were right inside as well. It was really great. My recent claim experience with AHS went very well with the gentleman that came out to fix the dryer. I couldn't get the dryer to heat. He said it was not broken. It was the utility panel where you have all controls that turn the power off and onto your house. He said I needed to have that replaced. He went in behind it and did something, and it's perfect.

I had a water heater issue and that had been resolved. I went without the water heater for a couple of weeks because maybe a communication thing or a timeline that was involved with the different processes that occur. I try to keep in mind that the COVID is going on and they are probably inundated. I'm very patient, but there comes a time sometimes where it's like, “Okay, what's going on?” It was a couple of weeks process and I was getting a little frustrated because I have a disabled family member that came home. I was trying to make sure I had hot water for the family member. But at the end of it, as long as everything worked out, I'm happy.

When I first called and I asked, “Do I need to call it for each item?” They said, “No, you could give us a list.” I also had to call in for the garage door. I forgot about that garage door light. I have one company coming out doing stuff, which is fine. Sometimes it just takes time. So, slowly but surely everything has been taken care of. I would recommend them. Everybody in my family had wonderful experiences with AHS, so it's just my situation. I can't be mad. Sometimes stuff happens. It’s still a great warranty company, to be able to come out and fix some of the things that have been broken.

I have a problem with washer and dryer. The Home Shield rep said that’s on the new company they sent, but he would have to get some approval for a new part because it is broken, both washer and dryer. I'm waiting for that. I tried calling today, but it was 45 minutes waiting and nothing. It's very hard to get ahold of Home Shield. Waiting for 45 minutes and then getting disconnected is very annoying. Who has time for 45 minutes to wait?

Aside from that, Home Shield chose bad companies before. The guy came in and looked at my washer. He said everything was fine but the water doesn't drain. I kept telling him the problem. He saw the problem and said it's normal. That’s not normal. The water is supposed to be drained. My clothes should not be wet. I wanted to file a complaint about that company because they were so bad. I told Home Shield to send me another company here because the guy didn't know what he was doing with my washer. He kept fooling with the washer and it kept showing DC on it. It’s not finishing and everything is filled with water. And then, he took the dryer apart and didn't fix it either. He left it exactly the way it was.

Another time, Home Shield sent me someone for the dishwasher. Wasn't very good. But it's not Home Shield's fault. They just hire a company, and then the company comes here and sees. Another problem was the light problem. The company came in but they came back and fixed it, which is good. So, it just depends. The company that Home Shield uses could improve. If they followed up with those people that actually do their job, it will be more guaranteed that they will do the job right. Besides that, everything is good.

They came back on Wednesday to take the broken part out and they're supposed to be here today between 8:00 and 11:00 to fix it. This is my 11th day without air conditioning in Texas and I called the contractor twice to follow up. We had to stay at the hotel for five days and I'm surprised they're not here yet. They said between 8:00 and 11:00 but my house is already 88 degrees downstairs, and they have to go in the attic. Other than that, I'm a single parent who's not very handy with my home items and I've had AHS for a long time. Things have worked out pretty well with them, so I reinvest every July.

The tech explained everything that was taking place. He called me down to show me what the issue was and what needed to be replaced. He gave me two different options of how it could be fixed. Fortunately, the one that was preferred is how it was done because we had a choice of it that if he couldn't fix it in the house, he'd pull it out to bring it to the factory and we'd go seven days without AC. We were very happy that he was able to get the part and fix it on site within an hour. Everything went very well.

American Home Shield's service was awesome. It was pretty quick. I submitted the request online on a Sunday night. I was called the same day and scheduled for the following day. It was very efficient. My husband and I agree this is the best money spent all year long. We signed up for it in June, and it went into effect early June to early July. Prior to that, we would just fix things as things came up but with COVID-19 happening and money being a little tight, it made sense to get all of our appliances covered under one umbrella.

They were pretty efficient and did a good job. The contractors, overall, with American Home Shield were pretty good. I had one I had to complain about a while back and they revoked the agreement they had with him. He didn't seem to want the job. He didn't wear a mask when he came. This was back in April. The attitude plus without the mask, it just didn't seem like I wanted that person. So AHS found me somebody else. I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. He had to fix the guest toilet because it was off-balanced and he put it back on balance, and it stopped the leak. He changed its guts, and then he also changed the guts on the upstairs toilet. He just went around and fixed all of them. I like Neal. He takes care of business. Updated on 08/05/2020: Effectively blocks communications by placing customers on hold interminable hold. Allegedly approved replacement, no way to contact to continue remedy. EFFECTIVELY BREACH OF CONTRACT. Does not return calls, has no means of voice mail or other customary practices of communication. Online account shows complaint closed out but that's misleading. Filed complaint with BBB and contacting state attorney generals.

Original Review: (1) No power to cooktop. Appliance repair tech could not replace circuit breaker, which I had reported as the problem. Electrician required. AHS verbal was another fee required to get electrician. Finally had replaced at my own expense. Subsequently found a referral at no fee had been entered into the AHS records. But after 5 days, we could use the cooktop, no thanks to AHS.
    (2) Dryer required multiple cycles to dry clothes. AHS recorded 7/13. Heating element replaced, finally, on 7/31.

    (3) Washer requires spider gear/drive. I suspected that on 7/13, confirmed when tech first visited on 7/14. Not fixed. AHS status online: “Appointment Set.” Beyond that, AHS informs the customer of the name and phone number of the local contractor...

AHS apparently has NO MEANS TO UPDATE STATUS online. Phone call “hold” time in excess of 90 minutes. If call back option is selected, well, I received two callbacks of three. BUT NO STATUS. Instead of leading, AHS passes the buck to the local contractor. The AHS agents have been unable to provide status other than “appointment set” and I have provided status to the agents.

Most recently, I was asked by an AHS agent if the cooktop had been fixed or if I had contacted the designated repair contractor? Folks, the process is broken and so is my washer. Response times are excessive, wait times on hold are ridiculous, and IMHO this company has failed to provide responsive performance or communications. Why, on the website or by phone, should I be told to contact the contractor when the decision process rests with AHS? After all, my contract is with AHS. I would certainly not want to be a contractor for AHS and be harassed for status! Of course, not all reviews are published and are subject to a “Moderation Team”. I doubt anything critical ever makes the published reviews. It will be interesting to see what AHS tells the BBB.

Updated on 08/03/2020: I purchased two home warranties on two homes and paid on them for seven months. I gave the company my VISA for them to auto charge my card each month. They charged for one, but not for the other. Each month, I would receive phone calls from their agents leaving messages that my account was in arrears. I would call them, stay on the phone for at least 45min, waiting for an agent to speak to me. I would explain that they had my VISA card, were charging me for one home and needed to do the same for the other. They would promise that the issue was cleared, only to again have agents call me stating that I was in arrears. Again, I would call and spend a minimum of two hours trying to get this straightened out.

One month, they sent me to COLLECTIONS. My credit score is 800-excellent. I had to call that company, then the American Shield to get this cleared up. Again they promised to clear it up. ...and DID NOT. I have spent a minimum of 25 hours talking to agents, waiting to talk to agents, and was told I could not speak to a SUPERVISOR! All of this has Stressed me out and finally decided to cancel both contracts. After spending 2 1/2 hours on the phone with them again, THEY ONLY CANCELLED ONE CONTRACT, necessitating that I waste more time getting the two contracts cancelled.

On top of this, they charged me an ADMINISTRATIVE FEE OF $25.26 for not being timely on my payment they said!! They have horrible customer service. Their agents are outsourced, they're inefficient and irresponsible. The last time I spoke to one of their agents, he said he would call me between 12-1pm the following day to ensure that my account was closed. He called me at 7pm.

Original Review: I signed up for American Home Shield in Dec, 2019, when I purchased a home. In Jan 2020, I decided to add my rental property to my American Home Shield account as well, as I had been insured through a different company. I've had nothing but problems with them. My credit card was on file for the company to charge me through my bank's auto pay. I was told that I needed to keep them on two contracts, meaning that there would be two different payments to which I agreed. Every month, they fail to charge me for the rental property. I receive phone calls asking that I call the main number which I do. I speak to an AHS agent who assures me that they will correct the problem.

Every month, it's happened again. One month, they sent me to collections. I had to call the collection dept myself and then AHS to clarify this. I have an excellent credit score of 800 and don't want any blemishes on my score. Each time I call AHS, I'm on the phone for hours, waiting to be connected, then more time talking to someone whom, most of the time, I don't understand their English as they have stated they're working from East Asia.

Today, I called again, was placed on hold, and when they finally answered, I was disconnected and the agent never called me again. Three days ago, I called one of the telephone numbers on their letter heads, and a man answered saying that they had prizes for AHS customers of $100 for being customers, no obligation. They indicated I needed to pay $2.99 and within 5-7 days I would be receiving a visa card with $97.01 under no obligation.

They would not assist me with my concern on the payments until I settled this giving them all my personal info and visa info as well. I did, and was I stupid for falling for this! As soon as they took all my info, they hung up on me. I called another number to AHS to report this, waited for an hour, spoke for a few seconds to the agent, and the call was dropped. He never called me back. Now, I'm back again at this, attempting to cancel my accounts. I DON'T WISH to do business WITH such an IRRESPONSIBLE COMPANY. WITH all that has happened, I imagine that if I did need SERVICE, it would also be an ASTRONOMICAL PROBLEM!!!

After having a terrible customer experience much like all of these post, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Robert Scott in the Consumer Affairs department (Consumer Affairs ) not only got back to me quickly and often, but followed up and helped drive the several issues to closure. He was responsive and professional and the only reason I am not cancelling my AHS subscription. Thank you Robert!

I still would like the senior management team up to the CEO to know that the hold times and follow through with your "standard" processes which most people have to go through is unacceptable and the fact that you haven't addressed it yet is disgraceful.

Kudos to Robert and I suggest everyone who is/was as frustrated as me reach out to him and the Consumer Affairs department at the email above

American Home Shield. I have 3 service requests (Refrigerator, Dryer, Hot Tub) that have been open for over 3 weeks with absolutely terrible service. I have literally been on hold for over 9 hours in the last week (calling again this morning and it says 'the wait time is over an hour'), I have not gotten responses nor email follow up. I have been an AHS customer for 15+ years and this is the worst experience I have ever had and plan to move my business to First American Home Warranty. I strongly recommend dumping AHS until their customer service improves. I have been without a working refrigerator and dryer and AHS is slow playing me to avoid making good on their contract. I am going to the Better Business Bureau next. AHS- What is wrong with your leadership that you could let this happen. Read more of the comments on Facebook from your really unhappy customers. Your service is terrible and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

On July 22, 2020, I made a service request for the HOYT ENERGY MASTER water heater, Model N50HM SIN50, in my rental property located in Rancho Cucamonga, California, and paid a $75.00 Trade Service Call Fee. There was a lack of sufficient hot water; the water kept turning cold before my tenants were through with showering or doing the dishes or laundry. The water heater was the original with the house, which was built by Lewis Homes of California in January 1986. On July 22, 2020, at 1:13 PM, American Home Shield sent me an e-mail that Plumbers, Inc. had been assigned as my service contractor. On July 22, 2020, at 2:31 PM, American Home Shield sent me an e-mail that my appointment with Plumbers, Inc. had been scheduled for July 28, 2020 at 10:00 AM-2:00 PM.

On July 22, 2020, at 6:25 PM, I called American Home Shield and spoke with “Larry" regarding Plumbers, Inc., which has a Better Business Bureau rating of “F, seven (7) customer reviews from April 14, 2020 thorough July 3, 2020, all associated with American Home Shield and all negative, and was unable to evaluate my water heater until Tuesday, July 28, 2020, between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. I requested that another plumbing contractor be assigned. On July 23, 2020, at 6:15 AM, American Home Shield sent me an e-mail that Mc Pherson Bros Plumbing had been assigned as my service contractor.

On July 23, 2020, at 9:15 AM, Michael Mc Pherson of Mc Pherson Bros Plumbing tore the water heater insulation blanket off, and evaluated the water heater. There was a lack of hot water, and the shower tub temperature was 91 degrees. He informed me that he would be recommending to American Home Shield that it be replaced under the ShieldPlus Real Estate Home Service Plan. On July 23, 2020, at 11:16 PM, American Home Shield sent me an e-mail that “Our records indicate your service order is complete."

On July 25, 2020, my tenants had no hot water. The pilot on the water heater was lit, but the burner would not come on. I called Mc Pherson Bros Plumbing and left a message on their answering machine at 11:15 AM. I placed a service request with American Home Shield online at 11:16 AM and spoke with “Graham” of American Home Shield at 11:19 AM, who called Mc Pherson Bros Plumbing and also left a message. Graham informed me that another service provider could not be assigned. I subsequently spoke with “Leo” of American Home Shield, who told me that Mc Pherson Bros Plumbing would be returning on July 29, 2020, and when I requested another service contractor be assigned prior to that date she tried reaching Plymwr Plumbing in Riverside, California without success.

On July 27, 2020, at 10:18 AM, Michael Mc Pherson of Mc Pherson Bros Plumbing called me and indicated that he had informed American Home Shield, on Saturday, July 25, 2020, that he would be unable to come to my house until later in the week of July 27, 2020. Mr. Mc Pherson said that American Home Shield told him that it would be assigning another service contractor. On July 27, 2020, at 4:47 PM, “Myeisha” of American Home Shield called and informed me that Plymwr Plumbing had been assigned and would be contacting me in 24 to 48 business hours to schedule service.

Plymwr Plumbing never contacted me. American Home Shield, in a pandemic, cannot reasonably expect me to expect my tenants to go without hot water indefinitely. I had the water heater replaced on the afternoon of July 29, 2020 by an independent service contractor, paid the contractor directly, and submitted proof of payment to American Home Shield for reimbursement. If American Home Shield does not reimburse me as requested, I will proceed with the dispute remedy.

They had a hard time finding contractors and the one they sent out couldn't do the job. So now, I'm waiting on another one to come out, and I haven't heard from them. My air conditioner is still down. It’s been two weeks now and no resolution. In the past, AHS has really done a good job. But this one has not been good.

He said AHS didn't cover the spray handle. He did an excellent job. He knew what he was doing and he was there in a timely manner. My faucet is working like it's supposed to work now.

I'm a buyer's agent and when I was using Fidelity National Warranty, I was getting calls on my clients saying that they paid the service call fee, the company came out and would say that it's not an issue to them. It's almost like this warranty isn't worth anything and it leaves a bad taste in my client's mouth. I sell it for peace of mind especially with the first time homebuyers. I knew that normally within the first year of the purchase of a new home, things would go by the wayside. And so, word of mouth, things came back around and I switched it up.

I've purchased American Home Shield for my clients as a closing gift and nobody had any issues. I also thought that I should have this for my house too. I had an appliance issue recently and Angel Appliances Repair called to schedule an appointment. The guy came out the same day and fixed the blown fuse right away. He even left with an extra fuse just in case. Also, he said the door was loose and wiggling and he fixed that too. He went above and beyond.

We really appreciated the help of MSC. He was a very good contractor. As matter of fact I would recommend him. They were a second choice in terms of a second opinion and the company before MSC, to my opinion, were fraudulent. This house is 21 years old. The toilet was original, and it's also 21 years old. The tank itself, according to what the MSC contractor was telling us was that it was put on too tight. So what happened was over time, it caused the tank to fray. It was so tight, and over time, it cracked. The plumber before him that came out claimed that it wasn't a situation that was warranted. So he then gave my husband an estimate of what it would cost him to replace it. We already knew the situation because when the toilet popped and there was the spew from the tank, we knew over time it was an issue. That couldn't be helped. It was old.

We kinda stopped using American Home Shield in the beginning. We had them before and I canceled the contract with them probably two years in because it turned out almost every person that was sent out would not be just a deductible situation, but it would turn out to be something much more than that. Then we got them again and this is on the second time around. Things are better but every so often you get someone like the first plumber that came out that give you this outrageous $200 and some estimate for my husband to buy the parts and he puts it in, or if he bring the parts with him and put it in, it’s $400 and some.

So, I knew then it was something not right. The house is some years old. Well, it was original. The second plumber comes out, and it turns out that this first plumber has a reputation that's not good and it's evident why. The second one was great. He came in, saw the problem and he put in his report, and it was repaired. The first plumber didn't even put a report in. He didn't even come back to tell us that he had spoken with American Home Shield to give them a report because he hadn’t given them one. I found that out by having to call back because he never got back with us. All he did was give us a huge estimate and leave.

Then when calling American Home Shield, I waited on line for 40 minutes and then it said the line does not work and to call back. With my most recent claim, Clovis Heating and Cooling got here early and they saw that there was a lot of water pooling in our ceiling. They cleaned it up and then fixed the air conditioner. They took care of the problem. It's just that they didn't wear masks.

He came in and repaired the leak. He also took some pictures of everything and then sent it back to the warranty company. Then they scheduled an appointment with the Quality Construction people to fill in the holes that were created in the ceiling to repair the plumbing. The guy came in and was here for about 45 minutes, did a fast job, cleaned everything up and left. I only wish that AHS has a mobile app. Their online experience on the phone is a little cumbersome.

I've called many times to American Home Shield for different things. One time, I called for a plumber and the job was done quickly. It took four days because of the pandemic, but normally, the contractors respond very quickly. My house is in California City so it's a long drive, but even though my house is really far, I usually have a good experience with them. American Home Shield made my life so easy. When I've called on the phone, they've always been very nice and very helpful. Their system is also easy to use and I'd rather go there than wait on the phone. All we do is enter the work order and it clearly sets instructions on either the vendor's gonna call us or we call the vendor.

I've always had a good experience with the vendors and with the way things are handled. However, some of the vendors don't give a follow-up call after they're done with the work. Considering that my house is a vacation home and I have someone else there right now, sometimes I don't know whether or not the issue was fixed, what the issue was or why it got broken. I gave American Home Shield that feedback, and now, the vendors are calling me after or before the work is done to let me know what needs to be done.

They had to replace the spring, but AHS said that the spring was not covered by the warranty and we're not happy about. We ended up letting Precision Door replace everything that was needed and we paid them 1,100 because we bought the lifetime warranty from them. The techs were very good and tried to explain what needed to be done, and we agreed to go ahead and put a new one. The door works good now and it’s even more quiet and smoother. But since we bought the whole thing, we still were charged $75 for them to come here even if the guy who did the service told us that they were going to waive the $75. Also, we're not good with computers and we can't go online whenever we have a concern with AHS, but it's also hard to get a hold of them on the phone.

We pay Home Shield around 900 a year because we have a pool and we have paid more in premium than we've ever used it. Recently, my ice maker went out. Because of the Coronavirus, it took a week to get the contractor here. But that was the ice maker so I wasn't too concerned that I used a couple of bags of ice. I understand with the Coronavirus and Home Shield getting calls on air conditioning is more important. It was a Thursday that I called and then Runyon Appliance Repair took a week from Thursday. But the tech was there on time when he was supposed to and I have no problem to wait for that type of thing. If it was my air conditioner then I would want them to be out today. I'm in Arizona.

I have one complaint. I've been with Home Shield for two years and I have been asking for a booklet on what’s covered and what’s not. They keep telling me they would send one out but they never have. I called three times on a booklet. I want a booklet to know what my benefits are covered. Every member of their company should have a booklet sent out on what their benefits are, what is covered and so forth. Other than that, the tech was a very nice gentleman and he did a great job. He had to change out the computer board on the ice maker and did everything he was supposed to do. I'm very happy with him.

We've canceled that one and put American Home Shield on it. Putting in a claim was quite easy. In fact, I did it about 1:30 in the morning. Lane Services came out and everything went fine. The problem was found almost immediately. The guy didn't have to search. He just went directly to it. He knew what it was when he heard it run or try to run. So now, we were quite happy with him and the company.

We’ve had American Home Shield since we bought the house so, we just kept it. It has been 15 years and they’ve taken care of us good. The board on the air condition was bad. It wasn't letting the fan come on. We didn’t know how to do the claim so my daughter called it in to AHS for us. Myers Comfort came out Saturday and since then, they’ve been waiting for a part to come in. He said it might take three days for them to get the part in but I haven't heard from them.

American Home Shield sent Service Contractors of Texas in Dallas out for my AC issue. When they came the first time, I asked the tech if what he did was gonna fix my issue. He said "yeah" but then a week later, the unit broke down again and he had to fix a different part. AHS should get repairs done quicker. With my AC issue, the repair was done within four days which wasn't too bad. But then, I had one weekend before when I had to leave my house 'cause their techs couldn't repair my problem. Regardless, submitting claims to AHS has been easy.

I like my experience working with American Home Shield. The men from Redeemed Heating & Air were quite professional. I'm always on edge being that I'm by myself now but they made me feel very comfortable. I learned a couple of things about my thermostat that I didn't know existed and we found out the reason why the thing was going offline on occasion. That was fixed.

They checked the air intake and the filters were fine. I told them I change them every six months. They went out and worked on the air conditioner at that time. They found that the air conditioner was low on fluid that was why it was cutting out with the hot and cold and running all day. I've been here four years and it's never been serviced. They serviced it. They were very good. I've not had a problem with anybody that American Home Shield have sent. They've been prompt and professional. They get the job done right. The electrician that I called for had told me that he lives very close to here so if I need something, he'll be coming out the first thing in the morning being I'm five minutes away from him.

We've had American Home Shield for a while and I enjoy the experience they give me. They're on top of everything. Every now and then, if there's something wrong, they get to the point right away. The next day or sometimes even the same day, the contractor calls me and makes the appointment. I love Triple S Plumbing. They did a great job and they are the best contractor I've had. I've had two or three others in the past and they were okay but not like Triple S was. Triple S is professional. The rep showed me and told me exactly what was going on. Before he left, he made sure everything was working.

The sink in the bathroom was clogged up and the rep had to go underneath. He told me that he pulled out a bunch of hair and then, the sink was actually with the bathtub near the bathroom, it was clogged up so he had to snake it. He said he went 25 feet down below. The garbage disposal was not working as well and he tried to fix it but he couldn't. So, he ordered a new one. The faucet in the kitchen is still leaking and he told me to give him a call back if it didn't fix the problem. They'll see if they can order a new faucet. Other than that, everything's working great.

It's so minute of a leak that they're not detecting it. Hopefully, they can find it so I don't have this problem every year.

The first time Blizzard Air came out, the air conditioner wasn’t working. It was low on Freon and had a leak. I had that taken care of before my homeowner’s warranty kicked in. So, I was kinda surprised at that. I had somebody come out twice before to fix it and put Freon. The last time Blizzard Air came out, they fixed the capacitor and the time before that, they sent someone to clean the vent or something that had to have a special guy come and clean it. The guy who repaired it did what he could. It's a three-ton unit and it's 1,350 square feet, which should take care of up to 1500 square feet, but it's not keeping the 77 in here now. By the time the afternoon rolls by, it's close to 80 in here, if not 80. Then overnight, as the air cools, it gets a little better. There isn't anything they can do because it's working.

The guy that comes out for Blizzard Air was very disrespectful to my niece who is the one who is usually here when he comes out. He was dismissive and rude. But when I come out a little, he's a little nicer explaining and I appreciated it. He was the one who suggested that American Home Shield has an upgrade type policy. This is the first time I've ever had a home warranty. So, I was a little ignorant even though I tried to read and be educated on it. So at first, I was upset because they were gonna charge me. It cost me quite a bit the first time they came out because of all the Freon, except for the first $10. But next time, I'll be more educated and I’ll know more. I'm doing some remodeling on the house so I had insulation in the attic and that still isn't helping enough. The lady that I bought it from said that when she remodeled the house when she had it, it had good insulation in the wall. So, that's the next thing I can do.

The freezer was leaking and there was a clog. Then, the microwave was beyond repair. I called AHS to submit a claim and every time I tried reaching them, they'd give me the two-hour hold time every day. I just played around with it. I tried to call earlier, then I tried to call later. Eventually, Appliance Care came out, but the repairman wouldn't answer any of my questions. He told me that they weren't going to be repairing the microwave and that started me down the road on the phone with AHS, trying to get in touch with the supervisor. It was well over a month situation and they ended up approving the replacement.

Other than that, the contractor who came out was cool and he was just doing his job. He was courteous, too. But I felt that if I call to make a complaint, AHS would say that somebody would be back within 24 or 48 hours. But I don't think the vendors are given that same strict period. Two weeks passed by and the vendor hadn't put in what they were going to do to rectify my situation. I tried following up with AHS and I talked to them several times. I specifically requested to talk with a supervisor but up to this point, I still have not. With any insurance, you just hope you don't need it and I didn't mind paying the premium. But at those times where I needed it, I felt like I was little let down and I ended up canceling my account based on that experience.

The AC was not working so we went online to American Home Shield and then I got a text shortly thereafter that said that the claim was received. The next day, I got another text from Next Generation that they received my claim and they let me know when they could come out. They checked my outside AC unit and the capacitor was out. They replaced the capacitor and got the fan going. But about a day later, the AC stopped working again. I called them back out there a week later and they came out and tested the motor and submitted the claim with American Home Shield for permission to replace the motor. They got the approval four days later and they came out and replaced the motor.

The guy that came out was very friendly and he seemed to know what he was talking about. Both times were pretty quick in getting the task completed. He did what he was supposed to do. I would've liked him to have fixed the fan on the initial visit. But he advised that he had to submit that if this didn't work nd if the fan didn't end up working, then they would see how it would go from there. But he was good. I'm happy with what they have done. We're in Texas and it's hot as hell. So the repair helped out quite a bit.

American Home Shield is saving face from last year with the air conditioning going out and the service. The guy who came kinda walked in, went outside, and said that the air conditioning unit needed to be cleaned up. We knew that was not it 'cause the people already did that. He wouldn't go upstairs to look at the unit that leaked and said he would be back the next day. He never came back. It just got worse. We finally called somebody else ourselves and we paid for the whole thing. It was not fun. American Home Shield didn't reimburse us with that.

Then my first negative experience was our faucet sink was leaking and we called someone in. Home Shield called back and said they wouldn't cover anything because someone intentionally broke the faucet which just totally pissed me off because who would go around and break their faucet? We just moved in which maybe it was already broken and covered it up. It wasn't a nice conversation with the guy and I didn't want him calling my house again either. Other than that, I've had other plumbers out there and I had one who I absolutely loved and adored. That was Daniel. I would give him any day of the week. If I have to go out and get one on my own, it would be that particular company person.

Recently, the hot water tank was leaking and the tech from High Priority Plumbing came out. When he came to the door, he stood back. He didn't even come up the stairs. He walked in the door and went back down to the driveway so he kept social distance. He was very cordial, nice, friendly, and seemed as if he knew what he was talking about. We got a new hot water heater. Now I had to get an extended one because the policy doesn't cover a whole lot. I was counting my dollars this year to see if it's gonna add up in not renewing. I was hesitating on renewing because the air conditioning is a lingering issue with me.

But it still wasn't cooling to what I would consider appropriate in Texas. So they came back and found that the previous servicer had overfilled the coolant which damaged the compressor. So they fixed the coolant charge and replaced the compressor. Now, things appear to be fine. The claims process is fine and the online stuff is pretty good. The only problem is there's no way to escalate something online like for air conditioning which is pretty crucial in Texas. You have to call and wait on the phone. I don't have time to be sitting on the phone so that's really a huge problem for me. Cool Experts was able to solve the problem, but AC repair in the summer here in Texas was quite an affair.

I've had an American Home Shield contract for about 2 years now and at this point I'm very satisfied. More recently, I'm having fewer uncovered repairs and I feel that the vendors have gotten better over time. For example, I had a plumber who came in about 2 years ago right when I started my contract and they were very unprofessional and unfocused. They were fooling around on the job and didn't fix my problem. They just recommended that I replace my toilet. Later on, I had a separate vendor to address the same problem. He was very professional and efficient.

I usually submit my claims online and that's relatively easy. I've taken advantage of the request reservice option before because there's a 60-day period where you can have the vendor come back out for free. But that is more difficult to access through the online portal. You have to manually either call them or call the vendor to request that. I wish that was a little bit more automatic. When I had some repairs that were not covered under the contract, American Home Shield said it would be evaluated and sent the letter, whereas it would have been a little bit better for them to communicate more directly and more promptly for repairs that are not covered under the contract. Also, if they provided more vendors that had weekend hours, it would be a lot easier for people who work. I find it very difficult to schedule appointments on weekdays because I work very long hours.

We scheduled for two weeks and they took care of it. When it came to my fans, I know AHS has a certain allotted amount to purchase something. I just think that if I have the allotted part and if I'm getting it done over anyway, why can't I pay the additional to get a better product that I want? I’ll also pay for my own upgrade. If they have something that costs 100 bucks, then that's all they can do, but I want something that's $250. They still won’t put it in, but I can put my own 150 and pay for it. I couldn't just send an email saying, “Do you cover this based on my contract?” Somebody also said something about preventive maintenance, but I couldn't really see and find it.

For our appliance issue, Caltech came out and they were very nice and quick. They also wore masks. They looked like they took the necessary safety precautions. Something changed from the original part to the part they installed. Because it doesn't beep sometimes at certain points when the old one used to beep, and the new one doesn't. I don't think they installed it wrong because it beeps sometimes in other places. I think it's the part, not the people. It's not their fault that I can tell. They were very good and very professional. They came in, did what they needed to do and left. With all the appliances, with the dishwasher, with the refrigerator, they did everything just fine. I’m very happy with them.

My wife called American Home Shield and then a contractor came out. Our air conditioner wasn’t blowing out cold air and the issue was something to do with the starter solenoid that controls the fan. It only took the man a couple minutes to fix it and everything seems to be working good right now. Hopefully, it stays that way.

The compressor went out and it took two weeks to get it fixed, which was what the contractor, All Comfort Specialist, said it would take. I was trying to push it because we have a cancer patient. They did everything they could to expedite it. But after it was installed, it went out about a day later. I appreciate American Home Shield because not only did they contact me after hours, they gave me a phone number to follow up. I left a phone number and a message, and they called me immediately the next morning. I've been working with a guy named Daniel at that location, who was super-duper concerned. The comfort he gave us and the speed was remarkable. It hasn't even been a week. He gave me a call this morning and told me that he found a compressor for me in Tulsa that he was gonna go by today and put in. It hasn't even been a week. So, they're on top of it. It was excellent service.

When I told them the emergency of the situation, American Home Shield themselves and All Comfort made me feel like it was one of their family members. American Home Shield responded. Our call dropped and they called back. AHS feels your pain when you're going through something. They showed their concern and they got the fastest company. They know they couldn't do anything as quick. A compressor is something you can't find overnight. They had done everything to me that would make a customer feel 100% satisfied. Everything was remarkable. I have no concern they could do better than what they've already done but they should keep on doing what they're doing.

I was having a leakage from the hot water valve in the laundry room and my waterline was leaking in the back of the refrigerator. My assigned contractor was Water Control Plumbing and their tech resolved the problem. It went well. I thought it was the pipe but it turned out that the person from the previous company that came out for my laundry room didn't tighten up a screw all the way up from the main hot water valve. That was why there was leaking. All that really needed to be done was for the screw to be tightened up. In the end, I paid for something that the previous water company did. I told American Home Shield that I wasted another $125 for Water Control to come out but they didn't say or do anything about it.

It is very hard to get in touch with American Shield. I spend a whole day, sometimes two days, to get in contact with them because they'll have me on hold for over an hour. After I've waited for an hour and a half going on two hours, the phone would just completely cut off. They’re very discouraging. I then start back over from scratch again. I call and stay on hold for another hour. It's a mess.

I've had plenty of issues with American Home Shield. I'm in one right now. I called them for my stove. They couldn't repair the stove so they gave me money for it. It turned out I'm not having good services with them. I bought a new stove and I called American Home Shield asking them if they come out to hook the stove up. They said no and that the contract doesn't cover that. Another thing is I had to purchase the stove with my own money. They said they would reimburse me but it would take up to 21 days. I have to wait to get reimbursed $2,800 when I spent 3,000 and some odd dollars out of my pocket. I'm in a bind right now. As soon as I can get another, I'm gonna try someone else.

The repair kept everything going okay. It was nice to get it taken care of and to know that you can budget $75 for the co-pay, and then I wouldn't have to worry that I had to come up with the money if it was something that was bigger. The first claim we had with Home Shield back in May was for a washing machine. General Electric told us that they wouldn't be getting the parts until July 27th. My husband was trying to call Home Shield to find out if it could be hurried up a little bit. He was on the phone at least 45 minutes every time we tried calling them. The parts arrived earlier and they were delivered to our house. Someone came that day, July 8th, and fixed it but General Electric was really bad. They left huge boxes on my porch. The guy said he was gonna pick it up within five days but it took at least three weeks. It took my husband threatening them with a lawsuit to come and pick up the boxes. It was a terrible experience.

Then, two weeks before our warranty went up, we had a problem with the garbage disposal. My husband called Home Shield and put in a claim and they sent H & K Plumbing right out. They had to order a new disposal but they got that within a week. Also, my husband said the person couldn't have been any nicer. Home Shield did great with this claim. I wasn’t even gonna call them about it. I was gonna see if we could take the $75 that we pay anyway and buy a new one and put it in ourselves. We decided to call at the last minute and we were very happy with that transaction.

I submitted the claim early Thursday morning and then the contractor was here on Friday. They called me and said they were on their way. The tech was very professional and very polite. He put the things on his shoes before he came in. He explained to me exactly what he was doing first, came back in and told me the issue. He fixed the issue and waited around to make sure that it did come on and start cooling. He also checked the Freon.

American Home Shield for me is peace of mind. But I got a little annoyed when I've had water heaters replaced and I still had to pay out $500 or $600. About four years ago, I had to have both furnaces replaced and I still ended up paying $3,000 or $4,000. But I understand depreciation. It's not like American Home Shield is gonna pay for a brand-new, upgraded system. I still pay less than what I would've.

The garbage disposal wasn't working and the rep from Mr. Plumber was very nice. He took care of what needed to be done within an hour because I told him and he listened to me. He ordered a new garbage disposal. It's not worth to repair those things. They're so cheap. It took him a few minutes to install it when it got here. If I have more work for him, I would call him and hire him again. I had a microwave incident also and it was declared unable to be fixed. American Home Shield agreed to replace it and we just never did. A couple of years have gone by, which is a wonder that repair is so good.

When I bought the house, the owner had American Home Shield. I knew it would be beneficial with me having it, because I know if something breaks, it’d cost me a penny if I don't have some warranty. Recently, I have a unit on the wall and there's a wick that goes into a pan at the bottom of the water heater to stop the flow of the water if it starts to overflow. The contractor came out and he changed the batteries. He told me a few things and he let me ask him questions. Everything's functioning okay right now. I submitted that claim online and the website was good. It didn't take me long. One time, I had a question about it, but then I went ahead and I selected the right one for the hot water heater. But there was something else I was looking at. Other than that, it was easy.

The contractors called me the next morning ‘cause that was 11:00 o'clock at night to tell me that they'd come to take a look at what was going on. They were gonna come out on Monday. But then I asked, “I gotta wait till Monday?” The rep said, “I’ll try to fit you in the schedule this morning,” which they did and which I appreciated. It was the second time, cause the same thing happened to me before. It happened on a Friday night, and I couldn't get any service till Monday and all the contractor did when he came out was push a button. When stuff happens on the weekend, that means you gotta wait a whole weekend in order to get it done. Also, $75 to come to change the battery or come push a button, it's expensive. But other than that, what they did was fine. I've never had anything major. So, if you don't have to pay a big deal, that always helps.

I had a claim for an AC issue and it was handled fine. American Home Shield definitely helps on a lot of stuff. The washer goes out and within a week's time, I've got somebody out there getting it fixed. That’s something when you’ve got five people in the house. You can't do without a warranty. However, when I have a major issue, it seems like it cost me a lot of money when I’m paying every month for the policy.

American Home Shield messed up one time when I had a hot water heater come out. They dropped the bucket on me. They didn't handle it right. The hot water heater was only two or three years old. It still had a warranty on it. But American Home Shield was gonna buy me a new hot water heater and it was gonna cost me $800 to have the plumbing company put the new hot water heater in. It cost me $135 to replace the hot water heater and my brother and a neighbor put it in for me. I'm not giving $800 for somebody to put a hot water heater in. I never was able to talk to American Home Shield to tell them what was going on. It's aggravating but I guess that's the way these companies are run.

I was able to work with Robert ** from American Home Shield to compensate for partial repairs. Mr. ** was very accommodating and worked hard to resolve my issue. As a result of my work with Mr. **, I am satisfied with the outcome.

    Original Review: Aug. 2, 2020

Water Damage as a Result of Negligence from American Home Shield’s subcontractor K and J Mechanical, LLC. On May 24, 2020 American Home Shield Account #** was called as a result of an inoperable upstairs air conditioner at **. This is a second home which we were preparing to put on the market for sale. American Home Shield contracted K and J Mechanical, LLC to assess the air conditioning unit. K and J Mechanical set an appointment for Friday, June 12, 2020. Cory and another associate from K and J mechanical arrived at ** at 10:30 AM (job #**). I explained to Cory from K and J Mechanical that I lived in DC and drove down to Williamsburg that morning only for scheduled appointments that day as we were getting the home ready to sell.

Cory and his associate inspected the outdoor unit and the indoor unit. In the process of assessing the problem, Cory turned on the air conditioning unit upstairs as part of his assessment of the problem. Before leaving, Cory came downstairs and showed me a picture of the AC core which was rusted and inoperable. He explained that I would have to pay for the refrigerant and other parts associated with replacing the core. After assessing the problem, Cory and his associate never turned off the inoperable air conditioner upstairs - instead he left it running. After Cory and another contractor finished their work, I left and returned to DC.

Although the AC had not been fixed, K and J Mechanical required us to pay an additional $1595 for Case Modification, Drain Line Modification, Line Set Modification, and R-22 Refrigerant. Although I was surprised by the additional costs, Cory stated twice, “You need to read the fine print” of the AHS warranty contract. American Home Shield did not cover any of the "additional costs" charged by K and J, but paid to ONLY to replace the core - which was inoperable.

Two weeks later, my husband and I returned to Williamsburg to continue getting the home ready to sell. When my husband went upstairs, he noticed the air conditioning unit upstairs had been left on by K and J Mechanical. (It has never been disputed that the technician turned on the air conditioner to assess the problem and never turned off the air conditioner before leaving). My husband also noticed a major water leak on the ceiling panel in the hallway. My husband went into the attic to try to find the source of the leak. Upon inspection, my husband noticed approximately 4 inches of ice on the core of the air conditioner. Because K and J Mechanical left the air conditioner running, the outside unit continued to try to start the inoperable core every three minutes.

Because the core was inoperable, 4 inches of ice developed on the core, the duct insulation became soaking wet and started falling off, and water leaked out of the duct and under the ceiling panels. The wet insulation and wet ceiling panels continued to leak into the ceiling panels below. Water continued to leak onto the hallway ceiling panels and down the walls of the hallway. Water also dripped from the ceiling and into the bedroom closet. I immediately called American Home Shield regarding the water damage. Kendall from American Home Shield tried to contact K and J Mechanical. However, it was 'after hours' and they did not respond. Kendall from American Home Shield ensured me that K and J was responsible for the repairs and would rectify the situation.

Meanwhile, my husband pulled up all the wet insulation and put pans underneath the outgoing duct to prevent the spread of water to the ceiling below. I spoke with Thomas ** from K and J the following day (Saturday, 6/27/2020). He said an associate from K and J would come Monday to replace the core and take pictures of the damage. I explained to Mr. ** I came down from DC specifically for this appointment, and I returned to DC thereafter. I explained that the upstairs air conditioner had been turned on by K and J Mechanical to assess the problem but had never been turned off. I explained that upon our return two weeks later - we found water dripping on the ceiling panels and down the walls.

I explained we followed the leak into the attic and discovered it came from the air conditioning core. We sent pictures to K and J Mechanical showing 4 inches of ice on the core and all the associated water damage. The estimate for water damage repairs was $4161.00 which we have had to pay out of pocket. As a result, we sent a letter to the BBB. Unfortunately, the BBB nor I have ever received a response from American Home Shield regarding the cost for the water damage repairs as a result of K and J’s neglience.

On 7/30/2020, the same upstairs air conditioning unit stopped working again. I was on hold for over an hour before I was able to talk with Jeff (ID# **) regarding the air conditioner. I explained we were scheduled for an Open House to sell our home in 2 days - but the Air Conditioner stopped working again. As a result, Jeff tried to call K and J Mechanical. Since it was after hours there was no response. Jeff explained they received the BBB complaint, but there had been no resolution to date. He asked me to "be patient" with AHS response because it could take up to 30 days (even though we were right at 30 days as of the call).

Jeff also explained he would call K and J Mechanical in the morning, and if there continued to be no response, his supervisor told him this case would be escalated to the highest department. When I mentioned that we had already paid over $5700 for repairs, much of it caused by K and J Mechanical, Jeff also agreed it was the responsibility of the Air Conditioning company to do the right thing and cover the cost of the repairs caused by water damage. Jeff assured me he would call me the next day to determine the next steps to resolving this issue quickly.

7/31/2020 - I never received a call from K and J Mechanical, Jeff, or any other AHS supervisor regarding the repairs. As a result, I called AHS again that evening hoping to get some resolution. I spoke with Jason who was very unhelpful (ID # ** according to Jason). Jason explained that I needed to wait 24-48 hours to have K and J Mechanical respond to the work order to fix the AC unit again. I told Jason that I expected a call back from Jeff, or a supervisor, if I hadn't heard from K and J Mechanical. I also explained to Jason that I had an Open House Scheduled the next day. Jason simply repeated that I had to wait 24-48 hours for a response from K and J. I asked to speak to a supervisor since I was told by Jeff that I would hear back the next day.

However, Jason explained he could not contact a supervisor because he works from home and was talking from his own phone. I then asked Jason to email his supervisor since he was unable to call him. Jason explained there is no email address for his supervisor and therefore he could not email him either. When Jason decided he could not help me, Jason just hung up the phone on me. As of 8/2/2020, we have paid over $5700.00 to try to repair an air conditioning unit that continues to be in disrepair. I have had no response from American Home Shield and no response from K and J mechanical.

The year before, the contractor didn’t wanna fix anything, and they didn't fix anything. I had to get my son over here to get it fixed. But it was not Home Shield, it was the air company itself. He was the same guy. The first time he came out, I was in a really bad health state then. I just came out with pneumonia, and he talked down on me. He talked like I was just a little regular chap on the streets. It's something like somebody put their hands on the fence and bent them down. I asked him, “Are you gonna fix it?” He said, “No, I ain’t doing that kinda work. I’m just not doing it.” He left here and he didn’t do it.

I told American Home Shield what had went on, and they sent the guy out. I looked at the truck and it was the same truck and it was the same technician. But his whole attitude turned completely around. He amazed me, and he did his job, too. He resolved the issue this time. He was right on time as well. When I contacted AHS on Saturday, the technician contacted me on Sunday. He was out here on Monday. American Home Shield is great now. At first, we had a rocky road. I wasn’t really familiar with how it operates completely. I was mad at Home Shield, but I should have turned that attitude towards the technician. Now, so far, I am pleased. I've only filed a claim with one company. S & L Air Conditioning came out recently and they figured out what was wrong. However, they haven't finished what they came here to do. I contacted them to come back out and they did. They still didn’t finish what they needed to do, so I contacted them again. I still have a bigger hole in my wall where an access panel is supposed to be. I haven't called them again to come back out. Filing a claim online with American Home Shield is a faster process than doing it by phone.

We called Home Shield and they just did the claim over the phone. And then, my wife dealt with Home Shield when the contractors came to the house. Heritage Air and Heat fixed the AC the first time. And then after two weeks, the AC stopped again. The guy came and the tech said they thought there was some kind of blockage. I don't understand how it can have a blockage when they put that new stuff on there. My wife was not happy because even the first time when they came in, they left a couple of mess in the attic and she had to clean behind them. They bent some filters. Also, some of the guys were in a hurry. My wife was not happy the first time with the guys.

Some of those guys need to be more careful with the stuff that they actually put in there, like the oil filters that we have for other stuff. We give them good filters, we expect to take care of the stuff, not to damage stuff, when we tell them about it. Especially after my wife tipped the guy. After she tipped him, she went up in there and saw that, and she was like on fire. She was mad. But the AC works good right now. My wife said the second guy was good. The contractor came out there and took care of the problem.

I've never owned a home that had a septic tank and we kept getting a bad smell in the house. The neighbors were the ones who told us that it might need to be sucked out. The guy from Stephenson Septic Tank showed up and he found it right there. He dug the thing out but he said that wasn't our problem and it was working properly. He was knowledgeable and he gave me quite a few tips on different things. We have two bathrooms but we have only used one because there are only the two of us. He said that we could be getting the backup smell which could be caused by the trap drying out on the other bathroom. So, it didn't need to be sucked out. American Home Shield is a great program and for the price, it’s peace of mind. It’s a great thing to own and I've told several other people about it that have already gotten on the program now just since I've been up here.

I've been with American Home Shield for a year and a half. Then I stopped it after switching over to Choice for about three months. It didn't work out with them, so I switched back to AHS. I've had it since then, for seven months. The AC was leaking water from the air condition pump. The contractor came and exchanged the part out. I was very impressed with this last time because they were so quick in correcting it and fixing it. For the particular item, they gave me the date within a couple of days, but it was a week before they could get to me. Other than that, I didn't have a problem.

The first AC repair company sat there and waited almost two weeks before they could come out and evaluate our AC unit. I had to keep calling AHS to schedule the appointments. We also paid an additional almost 200 bucks for Freon and we didn't understand why that didn't go to American Home Shield. Then the AC still broke. So Integrity had to come out less than two months later. Integrity was fine compared to the last person that was there. They made my appointment the next day and was able just to come by and evaluate to see the parts they needed versus pushing me down on a waitlist. The issue was the compressor and they were able to fix it immediately and get us back out of inactive.

American Home Shield has always come through on everything they said and they're very professional. This issue with the AC was the only time that I had a bad experience. I've always had them since I've bought the house five years ago. Dealing with them was great but they should hold a little bit more accountability. As a consumer, I shouldn't have to set their appointments.

Recently, the outside compressor fan of our air conditioning stopped running and would not come back on. We called the 800 number, and then Home Shield sent us an email or a text that told us who is the person who would come out to do it, and then we got in touch with them. That's how it always works. Home Shield referred us to On Time Plumbing & Heating and they're a great company. We have had issues in the past and they've always come out and fixed them really well.

This time, On Time came out, tested everything, put a new capacitor and the AC started running again and working okay. They tested everything and they said they it would be okay, but if anything happens within the next 30 days, to call them back. The AC ran for a few days, and then the fan stopped again. They came back out and they said that the fan needed to be replaced, so they replaced it. It's fantastic now. I would heartily recommend On Time and I would definitely want them back if I had any other issues. They are the best. It was 98 degrees here when they fixed the air conditioning down to 74. We would have had to check into a motel. It would be over 100 the next couple of days.

The air conditioner was leaking and there was a lot of water pooling on the top and falling at the bottom. A-US came out and worked on it. They had to come out again because it was still leaking. The tech found the piece that he needed to fix but he didn't have it so he had to order it. Then he came back and put it on. But he had to come out a couple days later because it was still leaking. He cleaned off a coil and then it was doing okay. But it was still backing up. Another guy came out and had done stuff to it and it was okay. Then it kept backing up and backing up. This last time the guy came out, he had taken a piece of pipe off and put a plastic tubing part on there. Right now, it's doing good.

I called Home Shield and talked to somebody the first time I had the issue with the AC. Then I did the service request online and their website was easy to navigate once I figured out what to do. It's easy to use. It said that the contractor would contact me within 24 hours, and they did that, and then they came out the next day. I have peace of mind with Home Shield. There's the guarantee that if something was to break down it'd be fixed.

It was after 10 minutes of it drying. I went out, I flipped it again and I put it running again, and all of a sudden, it made this noise and then sparks shot out. He got the right part and it's a duplicate of what I had before. He installed it efficiently and quickly. I was tied up with the dog at the time, but it didn't take very long at all. It surprised me. He was through before I was through with the dog. He even asked me for an old towel so he could wipe up the water inside of the cabinet. I couldn't have asked for a better appointment. I've had a lot of repairmen come over time so I was really amazed at how efficient he was and the service responded to my needs. I was very pleased.

It's the first time I've had this service and I was really surprised that everything went so well and that American Home Shield was right on the spot. I didn't have to wait too long without having the kitchen faucet, which is kind of difficult because I had to bring water pitchers from other faucets. I was glad when the tech called and said he was coming in a fairly short period of time. My daughter was the one who recommended the service to me so she took care of getting it for me. But the contract was sent to her so I don't have a copy of the contract. I asked for a copy so that I know what it says and I don't know if that's being addressed or not.

I went online to submit a claim and it was straightforward. Their system didn't recognize my account one night. But it was just some issue they were having temporarily. I did it the next day and it was fine. They sent an email about when to expect the contractor right after they did the commission. Last Friday, our air conditioner broke, so I called American Home Shield. I spoke to a live agent then I was led to believe that the contractor was coming that day, and he did. They sent out of American Comfort and the man said that we were low on refrigerant. He also checked the upstairs air handler and said that it was frozen inside and that was because of low refrigerant. He was very nice, set me at ease, and said that the added refrigerant would take care of the problem. It did, but on Monday morning, the air conditioner stopped working again.

I called American Home Shield back and they sent him out again. He kind of had an attitude. He went upstairs, opened up the air handler, and said that we needed a new air handler. He said he would get back to me, then I got an email from American Home Shield saying it would be a $540 extra because of the ductwork had to be modified to fit the new air handler. I questioned it because in my contract, it said that the air conditioner and ductwork were covered. But they said those were not covered because the contract stated that if there was a modification then they were not covered.

I then got a different company, Warren-Hay. But before they could come out, I changed my mind and decided to not go with either American Comfort or Warren-Hay. I called my regular service air conditioner service contractor and had them come out. They told me that I had a leak in the in the coils in my air handler and that it was illegal for American Comfort under EPA guidelines to put refrigerant into a known leak. So, I decided not to deal with American Home Shield and I had my own contractor take care of my air conditioner for me. All in all, I was not happy with American Home Shield's coverage. It was my first ever request for coverage and I've been with them for about a year. I've never asked for anything and that was what they did to me.

I had American Home Shield before in my other house when they were charging $50 or less. I've had them on and off and when I got this house, after a while I decided I need to have them do it. I like the security of having them just in case. Sometimes they're a little bit different depending on the subcontractor. But they're great about sending usually the right contractor do the right job. I'm bad about that. If you really want the contractor you had before, they're good at sending them too.

If a guy comes and fixes the toilet and it's not a leak but something else that's covered under the contract, and you don't call in for that specific deal, you need to call again for another claim while the guy’s standing and talking to you. If it's covered, AHS could get it fixed instead of trying to call again and go through another process to get that done. That's what makes it difficult. To me, when it's covered, I don't see the big deal if they find something else. Home Shield sometimes depends on who you get. Sometimes they want you to let that guy leave and then call again for that same problem, which is crazy. Recently, the toilet was leaking. The technician from ASAP Plumbing came the next day. The stuff was jacked up so he changed it out and it was done the same day. It was great.

I called Home Shield three times about my drainage. It wasn't draining properly. A couple of guys thought they had it fixed, and couple of guys thought the coil was tilted the wrong way. It wasn't draining the way it was supposed to go. The last guy that came out thought that. He thought he needed a helper to dismantle it and put it back together where it was angled in the right direction where the water would flow downhill. He came to the conclusion that the primary drain was not clogged.

Since I wasn't getting anywhere with who Home Shield sent out, I called people that I had used in the past that I know, and it cost me 330 bucks. They came out and found that the drain was clogged, so they repiped. It wasn't a lot. Maybe less than 10 feet. They repiped the drain, and they put a level on the coil and found out it was tilted and angled at just the right amount. Everything was in good shape there. I then sent the invoice in. I got some long-winded excuse about why it wasn't covered, which I knew would be the case. I would've been shocked if they agreed to cover any of that. I got it fixed on my own. And probably, in the future, I will just continue to call my own people.

Home Shield has been a waste of money, and I will not renew it because I don't expect that they would be much use. They send people out that don't even have the name of the company on the side of their truck. Not that that necessarily indicates that they're smart people, but usually a legitimate business would have a vehicle with the name somewhere displayed.

I got about what I expected, which wasn't much. I'm sorry that the people I bought the house from wasted their money in providing that warranty for me. I'd rather have the cash. I probably went a lot farther. But I understand that there are limitations to home and appliance warranties and things of that nature, and that's why I never have in the past spent my money on them. I just don't feel like you get value out of them. It's more an exercise in who can get away without paying for anything.

I'm sorry, but I don't have a warm, fuzzy feeling for Home Shield. I would not recommend anybody buy that. I haven't talked to anyone over the phone that wasn't very friendly and polite. They've all tried to be helpful. But the bottom line is it has been a waste of money and time, and I wouldn't recommend them. But it's not just American Home Shield. I wouldn't recommend any warranty system because they're all flawed. They are not set up to truly help somebody with their expense of getting their house fixed.

I was having a problem with our refrigerator. It’s a Frigidaire refrigerator and it's not terribly old. The electronic brain across the front was blinking number four on the refrigerator side, and the freezer side was number six. Everything in the freezer and the fridge all defrosted. We luckily have another fridge in the garage so we put all the goodies out there. We called American Home Shield then they sent out the Jea’s Appliance.

The gentleman that came out was Steve and he was absolutely magnificent. He was also efficient. He looked at it and said he knew what was wrong with it. He did some tests just to be certain. He did a wonderful job on it. The part was ordered and what got sent out was something for an oven. He said someone messed up and that he'd be back. He said he would personally order the part, which he did, and it took a while to get it. It was in Albany, New York. The office kept in touch with us and said it would take a while because of the Coronavirus. They located the part which was apparently not easy to find. Then it took a while to get here from FedEx. The lady at the office said it had to be inspected and sanitized all the way across the country.

Steve came out and installed it, and it was still blinking the number four. He said that probably would go away within 24 hours. The next day it was still blinking the number four. I gave it another day and it was still blinking the number four. We called and they said they'd send Steve back out. Then came the Coronavirus and they apparently were locked up for a 14-day thing. We called them and that went to a recording to call American Home Shield or another appliance repair shop. I thought it was on their part to call someone else ‘cause we couldn't do it. We were on lock up.

I called American Home Shield on a Friday and the young lady said they had been closed that was why they had not returned our calls because we called three or four times. My wife and I both contend that the lady didn't say they were closing up because of the Coronavirus. The lady did say that they did. That was on the recording but I didn't hear that. Having been a little bit in business myself, and if I were Jea’s Appliance company, I would have forwarded a phone to the manager, but they did not. I was not rude, rude. I said they could’ve called back. She said it was her first day back. I asked when would Steve gonna be able to come back out. She said Saturday. Steve come out and looked at it. He was checking things out and the fridge started making this noise that it has been making ever since. He said that was the fan and the motor. He would have to order that.

That was Saturday of this week. Saturday just passed and he said they'd call when the part would come in. It's been a long time since this thing started- five or six weeks. They've done everything that they possibly could. They are very polite people. We will see what happens when he said what he has to do is order a new motor and fan assembly. He said then we should be good. I don't know if they can find a motor for this refrigerator or not. That has not been found out yet. But we do have emails that American Home Shield has sent to us, keeping in touch, which is great.

We had an air conditioner take a dive. I explained to the gentleman that came out to fix that what it did and what it didn't. He went into his truck, picked out two boxes of little things, put them in the air conditioner and it worked like a champ. He asked where the air filter was. I told him where the filter was for the furnace. He wrote it down and it was absolutely filthy. He said that had nothing to do with the operation of the air conditioner, other than it wasn't breathing well. He knew immediately what to look for. He said the fan wouldn’t work but it's gonna go too, so he was gonna put it in them so we didn't have to worry about it.

We've had nothing but happiness with American Home Shield and with theirs. The air conditioning company was magnificent. These guys have been extremely good and we've had nothing but good luck with American Home Shield. We've had them a few years. When I was a real estate agent, I used to always sell their policies. Every house I sold or I was a buying or a listing agent, I threw it in the contract. There's that other company and they cost more than American Home Shield but they do less. The only thing is that the price did go up a little bit. But I'm aware it's inflation and that's something that could be considered. I'm 70 and my wife is 75. I just wondered if they had considered the idea of a senior discount.

I've been with American Home Shield for six to eight years now. The competitors still ranked below them that is why we stayed. Putting a claim is efficient but they only use one sole individual, like Myers Comfort Specialist. So, if it’s plumbing, heating, or if it’s AC, it’s Myers. There’s no competition so that’s why Myers isn’t worried about anything because they’re gonna get the job, and you have to pay $75 copay no matter what.

When my AC unit got struck by lightning before, I made an insurance claim. It went through Myers Comfort and I had to call them three times for them to send the right paperwork to my insurance company. It was pretty frustrating. Then AHS didn’t pay for a new unit. They only gave $1,000 toward a new unit which, to me, the whole point of having insurance is they would cover me if it was destroyed or give me a new one. However, in my recent claim when the AC wasn't coming on, Myers Comfort Specialist came out and they said a fuse had blown. They replaced it and it took them 30 minutes.

Submitting the claim was very simple. I just made a phone call. The Freon wasn't doing what it needed. May Heating and Air had to replace a part and then put $632 worth of Freon in it. But that was less than having to do a whole new thing and I was grateful for this Home Shield contract. May Heating and Air was very thorough and efficient. There was another part that had to be fixed that Home Shield had to send an electrician out to fix. That guy came out and got it up and running. I was pleased. The AC is working fine.

While the filing process was easy, it took time for the technician to respond to my claim. Two weeks is too much. Still, everything was done quickly. The tech from their contractor Comfort Experts came in and in an hour he was done. He was very polite. The first two days after he came, everything was fine. Heating and Air came out for the AC checkup at first and then the blower on one of the units wasn't working. The unit didn't seem to be cooling the house so they came back out and took care of that. They were very friendly and professional. Since they’ve been out, the AC has been working very well. It helped a great deal because, currently, I'm on 100% telework. I'm here all day, every day. I've gone from being warm in the house to being comfortable.

I submitted the claim online and I liked the website. It was user-friendly and the only thing that I would like to see is somewhere where I could type in more details. But that's just me because I'm detail oriented. I received an email and a text as to when to expect the contractor. Then, prior to their arrival, I received notification that they were on the way. I closed on this house on January 10th and I’ve been with American Home Shield for six months. This is my first home and I always heard from other people, including my brother who has owned two homes, that it's a good idea to have a home warranty.

Then when the technician got here, they would only look at one. They would not look at two units. So, I had to wait and call another claim in. Now I know that I have to do two claims, but that was never clear. Jensen was good. And it’s been easy working with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield had some of the better stuff that we liked and they had better coverages than the ones that we were offered. Recently, the contractors came to rewire a new line for the doorbell. It took them about 30 minutes to an hour. So far, the stuff that we needed to get done, AHS came through. On that doorbell issue, they had to get an extra clearance to see if they were able to do that job. But other than that, they approved it, so everything came out fine.

The guy from Prime Plumbing Services had to come out three times. The first time he came in, he said he needed to order some parts. That came in very quick and I was impressed. Then, whenever I had to call and reschedule, he came out to fix it up. But something wasn't right when he left. I called him within five minutes and he said he would try to make it back out. He just left so he was probably not far off. The faucet just needed some tightening but he said, "No, after some time." He never got back to me. I had to call the company and rescheduled for him to come back out. The issue was done 95% properly. He said over the phone that the faucet was a little loose. He knew it but he just left it thinking that it would be okay.

I just started with American Home Shield two months ago so that was my first service call. I submitted the claim online and it was straightforward and good. Getting somebody out needs improvement though. It wasn't as fast as I thought it would be. If I had an emergency situation, I would probably have to call a plumber. If I got something that I can't wait on, I can't wait for them to send somebody after four days. This will work for itty-bitty stuff but not for emergencies.

Something was going on with the water heater where it almost sounded like the water was either backing up or it wasn't processing through. The gentleman who was here said he really didn't know what to do. He said he put a cut off switch on there. But the cut off switch was already on there. I hadn't been to our new home since I purchased it in March, and this was like my second visit to be there alone after finding out what's going on. Whenever something goes on, they wait until I get home for me to decide what I'm gonna do. But he said he put like a filter purifying faucet, and he said that was the reason that it may have been triggering it.

He cut off the valve to it, and I put new filters on and everything. I travel, so I'm barely home. I noticed when I was there, after I put the new filters on and then opened it back up, it was really yucky. I let the water run. The water finally kicked in on that faucet, and the noise seemed to have simmered down all the jerking. It's an old house so it’s gonna make some type of noise, but it wasn't making as much noise. I noticed that because I was there for 12 days. So I noticed that it was not making as much noise. The same person came for something under the sink. It exploded. My mom doesn't usually mess with the trash compactor. She didn't run water, she did everything dry, and then turned it on. The pressure popped the pipe. She kept telling me to let my brother come do it, and I said, “No, I'm paying for this. Let's make sure that we didn't mess anything up.”

That same person came, and he showed her how to take care of that as far as what to do next time she put stuff in the trash compactor. She doesn’t use it anymore because she’s terrified. Overall, he did what he was supposed to do the first time but the second time, he didn't. He shouldn't lie and say he did something when he didn’t. Because if he did put a cut off switch, I would have seen the trimmings. My daughter also said, “He doesn't seem like the same person.”

He did give us good advice saying, “Yeah, you need to go ahead and change that section.” But he did say this is not what Home Shield does as far as like the water purifier. And there really was no repair. He only explained it. He did troubleshoot like he was supposed to but as far as doing anything, there was nothing. I don't want that guy to come back. Other than that, I also had an AC claim with Home Shield and that was taken care of a month prior to this issue. The AC was low on Freon. The contractor took care of that the same day. They automatically knew what was going on, so they did it. I ended up having to pay extra because it was so much that American Home Shield will pay for.

The air conditioning unit was not cycling on and off. The fan wasn't running. I went online to American Home Shield's site and called. The website has that ability to be able to submit a claim right there online or somebody would contact you. That had been working maybe a week earlier, but it wasn't working that evening that's why I had to wait on the phone for like an hour. After I made my call, they said somebody would contact me and I was immediately contacted.

The contractor was fantastic. It can kind of be worrisome when you're in a 90-degree weather and your air conditioning goes out. You never know if it's gonna be able to be repaired that day or if you're gonna have to wait a day. But they went above and beyond to get it repaired that same day. It made life a lot easier versus sweating and wondering if you're gonna have to go somewhere else. We were able to stay here and enjoy the home. Sometimes you wonder about home warranty companies if they really provide you the service you need but I have been very impressed with American Home Shield so far. We've had two claims and I've been really happy them. I'm glad the seller did buy the policy for us. It's well worth it.

One of our claims was the refrigerator. We replaced it and everything was perfect on that. The other thing was the vent hood. The whole assembly came apart. Home Shield reimbursed me for it. I have a vent hood that showed up today which I bought from Best Buy. A couple of months ago, a contractor came out and said my coils were leaking. I asked them what I had to do. I paid my $100 fee. The contractor then said I needed Freon. They already put the coils in. They filled it with the Freon. But Home Shield didn't cover both. The contractor hooked up everything. They checked for leaks. They went inside where they installed the coils. Nothing leaked. They went to the back. They said nothing leaked. They charged me 500 and some odd dollars after I paid the $100 for them to come out and do all the stuff.

A month and a half later, the AC was not getting cold again. I called back Home Shield and said, “Hey, I know there's a 60 days, and it's coming up on it, and it's not getting cold. It's a leak or something.” And they said, “Well, it's only 30 days now.” It used to be that when you call them back if you're having problems with anything, it would be either a 90 or 60-day. Why did it change from 60 days to 30 days? Is it just different products that you only do so long for or did this change all the way completely around everything? They also said it would be another $100 for the contractor to come out. And then, if they come out and I need Freon, they would charge me $80 a pound. So, the Freon is not covered with them, and I have the R22 which is $90 a pound. I called another home warranty company to see because Home Shield doesn't cover the Freon. The company I got ahold of does. I'm thinking about switching, but I really like Home Shield's service.

There was a problem with our freezer. A drain line was freezing. Then it wouldn’t defrost. It was leaking water. But it was because there was a line that was plugged. Eberhardt Services fixed it and they fixed it on the first call. They also came for a washer, and the problem with that was the unit kept prematurely shutting off because it said it was overloaded. Eberhardt had to order a part, they came back and then installed it. It took a little longer than liked. But we have Electrolux appliances and not everybody can work on them. That was a bit of a problem.

The first guy Home Shield got for us didn't do Electrolux. I had to call them back and tell them that. Home Shield then found somebody else. They had to do more digging. With the confusion of not having an Electrolux certified guy, we had to wait about 10 days for him to come for the first service call. And then they fixed one of the things, and then a week later, they fixed the other. It was an abnormal problem. I don't want to punish those people because it was reasonable. Also, Eberhardt was a good service company. They're very professional. I've been around a long time and I have lived in a lot of houses all over the country. I've had Home Shield for a long time and they go up every year in price. They can improve by keeping their price down.

Most of the time, I've been satisfied with them. I've had a new air conditioning in my own home from them. I also got a new refrigerator as well as a new dryer. They don't always replace it to the one you want, but they give you the money for what your other one was worth and they don't seem to knock it down too much. Sometimes when you buy used cars, it loses money. If I bought a refrigerator years ago at $400, they would give me $400 back for it and I just have to add the extra money if I want a better quality one. With that in mind, I've not found them too bad at all. The past months are okay as well. It's only gone up 50% in over 13 years for the service charge, so that's not too bad.

Recently, Roadrunner Appliance Repair recently came out for my son's house and they were fine. However, we had difficulty one time ‘cause it was through an air conditioning unit that was old, and the furnace wouldn't work. It wasn't compatible with it, so that took a bit longer than normal, but normally they're speedy. The only bad thing is that I don’t think they use contractors that are always in the area. Whether or not it's because these contractors don't have a contract with them, I have no idea. For instance, this last one I've done is coming from Vail, and we live in Sierra Vista, so it takes them a bit longer to get out than it would a local one.

They have been wonderful. They're always respectful and concerning. They always speak as though they're smiling. They get the work order out while we're still talking, which is amazing. Sometimes I get the work order trickle from the subcontractor almost as I hang up. With COVID right now, so many people are doing things to their houses so things are getting done that you have to wait for worker bees to come and help and do anything. But I am not experiencing that delay or that problem with American Home Shield. I've recommended them to my sister-in-law and she has it now on her property in Idaho. My daughter and her husband are gonna be moving and when they get to Texas, they're gonna use American Home Shield. It just makes sense.

When the contractor came out for my refrigerator, he found the problem that I was experiencing that I didn't even know about and he was able to order the part to fix it. The door wouldn't completely closed. We thought it was the way we were loading it or it might not be a good fit right now. But it had been consistently doing that. The tech said that the issue was with a part and he ordered it and fixed it. My refrigerator closes now.

There were a couple of charges that they charged my mother anyway even though they didn't need the service. When the contractor went out, the issue was already fixed. It just resolved itself. My brother went over there and did something, and then it was taken care of. We called Home Shield thinking that we needed them to fix the issue, but then sometimes they're resolved, sometimes not. But it didn't matter. They still charged, which I know they have to.

Somehow it was put down on my account that I was taking a cash out option. I discussed this with a customer service rep, but never agreed and instructed him to proceed with the repair. Because of this miscommunication within American Home Shield, the ordering of my parts was delayed by two weeks. In the meantime my house DID NOT HAVE ANY AIR CONDITIONING! I tried calling in to customer service nearly every day and each time I was on hold for at least an hour then would get conflicting information. Sometimes they said there was a hold on my account because of the cash out. Other times they said that the parts were already ordered, which was apparently a lie. Many times they would just hang up on me and I'd have to start all over. In any case it was clear they had no idea what was going on and no authority to fix the situation.

I spent nearly 20 hours on the phone with AHS over two weeks trying to get this resolved. It was so bad at one point I thought this company was basically a scam. Mind you the actual repair company in Las Vegas was great, they helped me with AHS after I called them each day trying to get an update. But even they were very frustrated by AHS's incompetent customer service. I will be getting a different home warranty provider as soon as my policy expires.

It's been a terrible experience since the pandemic. We had a dishwasher that started leaking and American Home Shield sent a company out to fix it. The first company that they sent out was terrible because the guy did not fix it. Weeks went by and he finally said, "I'm gonna come back and try to fix it, do some other thing." He did and it still leaked. The guy came out twice and he never did fix it. American Home Shield couldn't get ahold of them to ask if they wanted them to just replace it. This kind of went on for a couple of weeks.

Finally, they said it needed to be replaced but nobody ever did anything so we kept following up, following up, following up. My husband must have talked to these people numerous times. You're on hold for at least an hour and a half to two hours waiting for somebody to come on. The other thing is that we've sent emails. After about three emails, they finally said they were not reading our emails so we could not send them. They were just thrown out. There was no way to get ahold to a live person or even to an email person that would respond to this. It was absolutely awful.

My husband finally talked to somebody and they said they'd send an email of an offer. They sent us an email for an offer which was stainless steel on the outside, but not stainless steel on the inside. My husband told them that was not what we wanted. We wanted to have the kind of what we already had which was stainless steel all the way through. That took a few more weeks. Every time we talked to somebody, they took all the information down and said, "We understand. We'll call you right back. We'll get someone on this." This went on and on and on and nobody ever got on anything. We talked to somebody and they'd swear that they would be the one that would call us back but we never heard from anybody. It got very frustrating. In the meantime, had no dishwasher. It leaked all over the floor and we couldn't use it. We had to use our own hands. It was very annoying.

After almost three months, they finally sent someone out with the dishwasher after they re-offered a different model with the stainless steel interior. The guy who installed it and took the old one away was wonderful. We had a KitchenAid and they replaced it finally with a KitchenAid so it was comparable. It's a new model so it's a lot quieter than our other one. We're happy with that but we really do not get good service from them at all. People would say it's a pandemic and they don't have the people returning to work and this and that. We can understand that but it shouldn't take over three months to get something installed. They didn't have the right and enough help and the help that they did have tried their darndest to do something.

Of course during the hottest time of the year in Las Vegas, when the temperature was 112 degrees, my Air Conditioning goes out. After going to a couple of hardware stores looking for 30A fuses for the A/C unit (which has worked in the past), installing them and then finding out that new fuses aren't working, we decided it was time to call our home warranty service. We were informed that the wait time would be more than an hour so we decided to call back later in the evening when maybe so many people would not be on. We called at 9pm, 11pm, 12 am, and 3am. Still the same wait time or worse. I was on hold for approximately 1.5 hours when the call was suddenly disconnected.?? I decided to get some sleep and to call back again later.

After 3 calls and a grand total of 2 hours and 35 minutes on hold, I was finally able to speak to a rep. She told me that could get me an appointment in two days. Mind you, this is in 112 degree heat with no A/C. The day of the appointment arrived and the tech showed up as scheduled and worked on the A/C. A very nice man, seemed like he fixed the problem so I even gave him a tip. 15 minutes after he left, the A/C stopped working again. I called the company that AHS contracted the job out to, to let them know that the A/C is not fixed and the tech needs to come back. I was told that I would have to schedule yet another appointment (which meant waiting another day in a house that's 112 degrees).

I decided to contact AHS to see if there was any way they could get this expedited, since they took my payment and the work that was scheduled and paid for, was not completed! So here we go... another 2 hours and 1 dropped call later, I was basically told that I would have to wait another 2 days for a new appointment, even though the first appointment resulted in the work not being done correctly. I'm 80 years old and living in this kind of heat could mean a death sentence for me. I told the representative "never mind", I would be dropping my service with AHS. I contacted a private A/C repair company, who scheduled me for first thing the next morning.

I’ve paid American Home Shield my service fee, and the work I paid for was never completed. I would like to get my money back, but I don't want to be on the phone for another 3 or 4 hours trying to do so. I'm currently looking for a new Home Warranty service and I would never recommend this company to anyone, unless you truly enjoy hold music, being disconnected and endless hours spent waiting and hoping someone picks up the phone. Funny, AHS seems to have enough money for lots of expensive commercials. Maybe they should use a few of those dollars to hire more people to answer the phones – there’s a thought.

After contacting the vendor and after 1 more hour on hold I told them I had the vendor on their list with much better reviews. At this time the customer service rep told me that I could not change vendors. After a few min of telling me that it was policy I asked to talk to a manager. She took my contact info and was told that a manager was going to call me back in 30 min. It never happened.

So I called again, waited one more hour and got a very disgusting and rude customer service person. I explained what the issue was and she told me it was policy. I asked, "Can you explain what the policy says," and she said and I quote "I don't have to. You don't pay my Bills." I thought I was talking to someone that would try and help but I was wrong. My dryer stop working the end of June. Contacted AHS for a service request. Service request was processed quickly and a technician was at our home in a few day. We were informed we needed a new motor and it would take probably over a week to get parts and services again. Since it was at least 20 years old we did not want to do that and wanted to take the option of payment instead of repair. Here is where the frustrations begins. AHS was suppose to call to review option the following day and we did not get a call so we called. Bottom line, it took hours and numerous call to talk to someone that could provide us with what the payment ($218) would be instead of repair.

We agreed to the payment and we were told all we needed to do is email the bill for new dryer and they would process the payment. I purchased the new dryer July 1 and emailed AHS same day. I received a confirmation email stating that I would be receiving a check in 7-10 day. Three weeks later and no check, I started call again to check on status. Again numerous calls and hours later, I reached someone who said I should have the check next week. July 31, still no check I call again. I reached someone fairly quickly but could not provide information on status but offered to reimburse me half of my service fee ($37.50) for my trouble and promised to transfer me to some who could help with my original question. So I get transfer back into the line waiting to speak with a person that could help me.

Over an hour later, I am frustrated beyond believe. I decide enough is enough, I am just going to cancel my contract when someone picks up. Finally, someone picks up and that person could not cancel my contract. I had to speak to someone else. So I cancelled my contract, I don’t know if I will ever receive reimbursement for the service fee or payment in lieu of service but immediately after cancelling my contract, AHS did send me an email that I owed them $68.99 for an Administration fee for cancelling early.

This was for Wednesday, and I called on Tuesday just to confirm, and she said the tech was gonna call me twice, and if I didn't pick up on the second time, he was going to cancel the call. I said that this is Bodega Bay, California, and I happen to be with AT&T, so my phone only works about 75% of the time, and 25%, I don't get called out here or it's a weak signal. I have to sometimes go outside or go onto an upper deck. So, I said that that wouldn't be fair. I would really be upset if he called twice, and because I didn't pick up the phone, he just decided not to come out because I could confirm with her on Tuesday that I'd definitely be here.

I don't think she really understood where I was coming from, especially since I've been waiting for a whole week to get this thing fixed. Seven days is a long time but I didn't care because it was the freezer. I just bought some dry ice and the freezer was good. But had I lost the refrigerator, that would have been a whole different ball game. A refrigerator is hard to live without. Other than that, the guy showed up and did a great job. He was fantastic. With his service, I was more than pleased. He made it a good experience for me. Everything is working fine. I have been very fortunate with American Home Shield. It's a good company.

My recent claim with AHS has something to do with my heating system but not the heater itself. It was leaking water. I submitted the claim over the phone to AHS. The technician went out and was able to fix it. It was a clogged hose, so he was able to unclog the hose. Everything worked out fine. The other claim was about the heating system. The thermostat was not coordinating with the heating system and the contractors fixed it. The reps at AHS have been very friendly and efficient.

Gibson Air Conditioning and Heating had to come out several times. Gibson came out and worked on it each time. They were very polite and professional, and they came out as quickly as they could. They thought every time they had it fixed the AC, but then it went down again. It was four or five times they came out. I feel like it will break down again, but hopefully not. After they fixed the AC, I left it on when I went out of town because I thought, “You know what? I don't want the house to get too hot. I'll just leave it on.” But when I came home, the house was 99 degrees and things were melted inside the house. The AC didn't stay fixed. I stayed in the house that night. It got down to 96, but Gibson didn't come until the next day.

The other thing is the last time the AC broke down, it was hot and my son and his wife were here. He decided he would go to Lowe's and buy an air conditioning unit to put in by the room so he could sleep that night. I was on the phone for over two hours waiting for someone to pick up. Finally, after two hours, I was exhausted so I just said I would go to bed. I was shocked. My son went in the store, I said I would just wait in the car in case Home Shield got back on the phone. I was on the phone before we left. I was on the phone when we got back. I was on the phone while he hooked up that air conditioning and finally after two hours, I just gave up. That is not really acceptable. That's not excellent service if you can't even talk to anyone to get any kind of response in two hours.

Home Shield called me the next day. Somebody called me back with an accent that I could barely understand. I had another one before a long time ago when I first bought the house, but I don't remember them being that difficult to get ahold of. But Gibson was sent out here right away. I didn't mind the service that they gave, but it didn't resolve the thing the first, second or third time. If the AC does not maintain the temperature you put it at, then how is it really working properly? I don't understand. Because the tech said, “Oh, well. You may just be able to get down to 82.” Who wants to stay in their house at 82 degrees? That's not very acceptable either. And then I asked, “Well, if you can't get it to work, what happens? Do they try and get a new air conditioning in here or what?” He said, “Oh, no. I've never seen that happen.” So, I have to keep suffering it breaking down, and then they come out and fix it?

I'm over 70. It's bad for my health to lay in here at 90 some degrees. But I just sucked it up, and I was in a puddle of water when I woke up in the morning after a couple hours of sleep, but that's it. It's hard out here. We're in hot weather. So, to not have a functioning air conditioning is a problem. Who wants to go to a hotel during COVID? I don't have the disposable income to go get a hotel, besides paying Home Shield $100 for the contractor to come out, and I paid for something else. I gave the contractor another $160. Wow.

Appliance Tech came out a few times. They repaired our washer and dryer and then I had another time where they came out and repaired my dishwasher that wouldn't come on. I liked them so well, we had them have dinner with us a few times when I was cooking dinner. They go out of their way to accommodate and take care of the problem. When I submitted the claim, I called Home Shield, spoke to two people and they were very helpful and nice. I was told someone would be in contact with me and they’d make the appointment set up, which was very expedient. I'm extremely satisfied. They’re very good.

My claim experience with AHS went fine except for the contractors who were supposed to order a part never came back. They marked the job as closed when the cylinder to my faucet was supposed to be replaced because when he took it apart, it was degraded. Even though it worked, it leaks. So we have to wait until it stops leaking in order for us to make sure that it stops dripping water. He said he had the part number to it and that he would order it, but he never came back. The service of AHS is good though. A company I work for is contracted through American Home Shield so I don't have a problem with them. When I submitted the claim online to AHS, it was flawless. I haven't had a problem with it at all.

Myers Comfort came out for an AC claim and they did well. The technicians were on time and were very helpful. They were both very polite and worked hard in the sun in the hot weather. The upstairs unit wasn't cooling, and they fixed it Friday. Then, they came back today because the downstairs unit stopped cooling and they fixed it yesterday. Both air conditioners are working. They had to add Freon to both. We’ve been with American Home Shield for five years and I like that this last time was a quick response from the air conditioning people.

The claims process of AHS is very simple and so easy. Recently, I submitted a claim because the fuel tank was busted. The contractors came right on out and they looked at it and determined like, "This thing is busted, gotta replace it." So they fixed that. They went out in a matter of 30 to 45 minutes, found me a new tank with all new parts inside, brought it in and installed it in like record time. They did a real good job and I'm very pleased with the job they did. They got in and out, were respectful and clean, so I couldn't ask for anything more than that. You don't know what's coming and to have a warranty that is gonna help you take care of those things that you can't foresee, for the price, I would do it any time.

One day, we were cooking and we smelled something burning, and our oven just went out. It took a while for the part to come in when we submitted the claim to AHS for it. But it’s a Kenmore oven and I don’t know if they even make Kenmores anymore. So, that was really not American Home Shield’s fault. Once the part came in, the contractor came right out. He said that part was supposed to be there around Friday. He asked if it was okay if he came Sunday and he actually came out on Sunday. He fixed it and explained everything to my husband. He got it done and it’s working. He also had his mask on. We’re satisfied with the service we get from AHS.

It would be easier to file claims over the phone instead of online. Also, Home Shield just sends whoever they wanna send. The first one was for a microwave issue. I never got a call to schedule so I called the company that Home Shield sent me. That guy only did AC work but I needed a microwave repaired. I had to redo the claim and I did it over the phone.

Also, they were really accommodating with scheduling. It was a really good experience. Aerify was here within an hour. It was awesome. Because I'm working from home, I'm able to get things fixed. I have had a bunch of claims and everything's been wonderful with everybody. All of them have been prompt and every single one of them explained to me what the problem was and how I could avoid it. Some of it was the way I was using things so they shared with me a better way to maintain things. Everything's been awesome and that's why I like AHS. I had a plumber once from AHS a couple years ago and I did not like him. I haven't had him since, so I'm not going to lodge a complaint.

My most recent claim was yesterday and it was for a plumbing issue. Before that, it was a dryer and then before that, it was my range. My first one was for my bathroom outlet upstairs which wasn't working. They were all wired through my first floor bathroom so I went down to that bathroom. It was the outlets in the bathroom, and I reset it. It didn’t work so I called AHS. They sent an electrician out and he walked me through the connection and then he said I just needed a reset. He showed me how it all worked and then showed me the reset and said that I would have to get a tool to help me because I couldn't push it hard enough.

It was a really hard press and I couldn't have done it. I have arthritis and it was so difficult to push in to the outlet. The electrician pushed the reset and everything worked out. He was perfect and he gave me some extra service. He suggested how I might want to reset the outlet and everything was fine. My bathroom outlet is working now.

I've been with Home Shield since February 2018. I got it when I purchased a house as part of the purchase. And then I had some issues almost when it was up and the contractors come out and handled it very well, so I continued to keep it. I always talked to the techs and they're fine with doing it through them. That's always my concern -- are the people being compensated enough by them? They all seemed fine with it. And I've had several issues, different things, water heater. Home Shield has been good.

However, I have some doubts about the previous air conditioner contractor. He charged me a ton for Freon. And then eight weeks later, I had to call again. And then A Johnson came out and did the same thing essentially. But he only used a couple of pounds of Freon and I paid for a lot more than two pounds on the prior guy. I'm not even sure that the thing will hold as much Freon as he charged me for. But it seemed like you get the same symptom, and one guy comes out after the first guy and puts in just a couple pounds.

The first time I paid over $500. Second time, I paid the $75 and then the tech came out. And then, they got a cap on the Freon because the Freon is outrageous. I paid 100 bucks for it. My understanding not being a tech guy is they did the same thing. You would think that Freon charges would be similar but they weren't.

But I liked the way that the latest one, A Johnson, did things. The tech came out but the AC was frozen up. He came back in a couple of days when it wasn't because I didn't know not to leave it on. It took hours for it to unfreeze. So he had to reschedule it, but he did. And then, he came back and fixed it. He was very calm.

The mixing valve in the faucet in the shower wasn't working. It would either be scalding hot or freezing cold. We couldn't adjust it. When we called American Home Shield, the wait was up to three hours but once I got to talk to somebody, it was okay. When the plumber came out, he described it as something like a ball and it had different pieces with it. American Home Shield only allowed to pay 250 for that, and we had to pay 84. It's still kinda funky, but it's a whole lot better than it was.

American Home Shield advertises that if the appliance can't be fixed, they'll replace it. When I had an issue with the oven. the appliance guy couldn't find the part so he told AHS that he looked everywhere but it was not available. AHS said that they would look for it. Then after being on hold for like a total of six hours one day last week, I finally got ahold of somebody. They said that they couldn't find the part and they gave me a reference number where they were gonna replace the stove. I never heard anything from them. I started calling again and I was on hold again for six hours all day long. I never got in touch with anybody. My husband and I both got on the phone, and he finally talked to somebody. He told the rep that we had a reference number where the oven can be replaced. Then the rep said that she would have to transfer it to the purchasing department. So, he was on hold for two hours and they never answered.

We also had an issue with the air return vent on the AC and the air conditioner guy came out. He called back and he said that AHS said that they would approve it. They were supposed to call us back. But we haven't heard from them, so I'm not real pleased with them. But it could be because they were just backed up because it had been so hot. The contractors were awesome. But I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield because you can't get anybody on the phone. At one point, you could leave a message and ask them to call you back but they didn't call back.
