Home Shield asked what the problem was when I filed a claim and within two days, I got someone online. They worked around my schedule, which helped out, and they made it happen. DNB Plumbing came out and had to order some parts for my claim. Once those came in, they called me back but I was out of town for a week and the tech said to call him back once I get in. I did and they were here the next day. They did a good job and everything got fixed.

We went through a time period, maybe a year or two ago, where the customer experience was a little confusing and a little bit more difficult with American Home Shield. But overall, it has been pretty good. Of course, it was challenging during COVID when everybody was in quarantine, but we understood that because we were all struggling with the issue. But it seems to work pretty well so far and the customer experience actually has gotten easier. American Home Shield still got it done.
The only thing I really have an issue with Home Shield is that we've had our dishwasher repaired three times and for the same thing. They won't replace it and it makes no sense. They should've replaced it instead of spending the money to fix something when the technician said that it would break again. Other than that, they've been good. We had a washing machine that they replaced with no trouble. We also had Nussbaumer Plumbing come out and fixed a shower handle that came off with no trouble.
Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I called American Home Shield because we had an issue with the washing machine. The water would not go out. I wasn't initially pleased about having Sears come out because with them, a lot of things going out of business, I was skeptical. But they did well and they were okay. It took them a little longer though. When we had an issue with the heat pump, the guy that came out was wonderful. They also understood and they took extra care of us. They went out of their way.
I did my research on a lot of the warranties and from my understanding, if AHS can't fix something, they will replace it. But in all the other ones, they won't do that. Overall, I've had a wonderful experience with AHS. I'm 63 years old and my husband is 67 and we live on a fixed income. Things worry me. We can't put a lot of money in the bank. We don't have a lot of savings. One issue with the washing machine or a heat pump or something would wipe us out and it would cause a really big hardship on us. That's why I get my warranty.

We needed to rekey a crawlspace area. I submitted a claim on American Home Shield's website. It was straightforward. Realty Rekey came out and I have no complaints so far about the keyings. We needed to get in the crawlspace to do some task work. So, it was really great to have the crawlspace accessible. I'm satisfied.

F6 Plumbing came out and they found the problem and they fixed it. The problem was that the drainage for the HVAC was clogged. They explained to me how to keep it unclogged because I'm not from Texas so I don't know all these things. So in addition to fixing it, they educated me so that doesn't clog again. I was very, very happy with the work they did. They were very professional. They got it done quickly. It was great. Submitting the claim was a very easy process because AHS gave me options. I could call them and file the claim, or I could go online. So it was nice to know that I could do it either way. I've done it both ways and it all works really well. I'm very happy. I'm even thinking about renewing and doing another year.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield through the website for my ceiling fan. I like the website. It's always worked. As far as when to expect out the contractors, it's always very instantaneous so my expectation was that it would be and it was. #1 R & R Electrical Allstar came out for the ceiling fan. They were great. Everybody's always been great. I've never had any issue with any service provider through AHS. I have two houses and it's been seven years that I've been protected with AHS. Working with them has been excellent. I recommend it to everybody from the start to the finish.

The fella who came out for my garage door did an excellent job. He was very courteous, very kind and very helpful. The issue turned out to be two springs that were broken and the panel in the back of the garage door wasn't working, so he replaced that and made the remote work, which was fantastic. This was my first claim with AHS and my daughter helped me on the computer and we put the claim in online and we did it real quick. The service was excellent. So far, I was super excited. This was the first time I've ever had to do this and I just know that for $75 I got the problem solved. I'm paying monthly on this service, which is fantastic.

American Home Shield has been right on target with everything that we've experienced. The online submission has been extremely easy because of the dropdown menus and things they have. Their website is really detailed into issues with all the various appliances that they get. Then if it's other and more detail needs to be in there, you can type in a situation. I also had to call them before and the service was just as well. We had CK Appliance come in to see if they could take care of an issue that another company couldn't and I was very pleased. They were very professional. The young gentleman who was here listened and he did a very thorough search of what the issue was.
Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your service request. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

I had an attic fan busted. I went online, I clicked on what device is broken, AHS sent me the name of the company that would be in contact with me, that company made an appointment and they came out as promised on that date and they replaced it. Fortunately, they came out with the right parts. I don't know if that was by design or not, or just luck, but either way, it was great. It didn't take any longer.

It takes about an hour to an hour a half to get ahold of Home Shield but once I get the people here, they do okay. I called them about the range top and a built-in microwave. They approved the range top but not the microwave. I called the dealer and he said they had sent in the report and it's up to Home Shield. I got on the phone and waited for a long time. Finally, I got somebody from Home Shield who said the dealer never sent it in. I called the dealer back and he said he had sent it and he sent me the email. I called Home Shield back and the guy said they just got the email that day. It doesn’t put a lot of trust and I still haven’t heard anything about my microwave.

Everything was taken care of when K&S Plumbing came out. The tech was nice. He called in and made sure that we got the stove together. The only thing that was kind of frustrating was when we were trying to get everything done, we had to deal with two or three people instead of just one person. For instance, we were trying to fix the refrigerator door and one person came out for that. Then another person came to fix the dryer. They could have just get that one person to do both so they could kill two birds with one stone. But other than that, they were really good with all the work.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I wasn't sure if it was a water leak or an air leak because when the air conditioner was originally put in when they built the place, they didn't run the line out. They just hooked up to the outgoing line from the plumbing so the plumbers said it was not their problem. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. They went out there and found what the problem was. It was like a two-way issue. One of the lines that they ran into was going out of the house but instead of fixing that, they said it was an AC thing. He had to call his boss and call American Home Shield to see if they would cover it. They said they'd get back to us the next day but it was a Friday that they came. We were waiting Monday and Tuesday. They never got back to us saying they couldn't fix it.
Finally on Saturday, I thought I needed it fixed. It was still leaking and getting worse. I had to reach back to American Home Shield. I did it online to get the AC people to come out when the plumbing people could have fixed it. All the AC people did was put a quick sealant caulking around it. It was an easy fix. American Home Shield could have picked a better plumber but the AC people were excellent. They were on time and quick. They found out the problem and fixed it. They were really helpful and I had no issues with them.

Four months ago, I called and had a plumber come fix my toilet. They could have replaced the rusted-out screws that were around the bottom on the floor. They could have replaced more than just fix the seal. Because when you go in there, it still has a little leak in the back because I got those blue things in my toilet, so it tells me if it leaks. They knew it was there because they had to take the toilet off, and then they had to replace it. But the screws are rusted, so it won't be long. It's already leaking a bit. It's just my guest bathroom, but I would have to have them come back out here and pay $75 again just for them to fix that, that they should have already fixed.
Submitting a claim is the easiest process. The hard part is determining what part is it, air conditioning, plumbing? Last year, I filed a claim under air conditioning because I didn't know. It was my drainage where my air conditioner goes down into the drainage area and it was blocked. The heat and air guy just ran a thing through. It lasted about a year, and then it started flooding my kitchen again when I called. This time, I put it under pipe issues. And then, when the tech came out, he recognized it right away. I had to have a couple of pipes just redone. They charged me $400, but he just replaced a little pipe and took the metal one off and put a PVC pipe in for me underneath my air conditioner. I don't understand why Home Shield didn't tell me why they wouldn't pay for the two pipes to be redone. They were a foot each. I don't understand why I had to pay $400. But other than that, I've been happy with the service.

The sensor wasn’t working so Alliance Overhead Garage Doors came out. Normally, it’ll take about two days for a contractor to come out but this one, they came right away. They were awesome. They fixed it and it’s working awesome. The repair made it way easier to open and close the door ‘cause it wasn't working without me coming out and pressing the button. The contractor was real knowledgeable too. My neighbor's garage sensor went out and I talked to the guy that was fixing it. He told me all the different kinds of stuff and that they were gonna have to do a bigger job. When I called American Home Shield and they got these guys out, it was a way smaller job than what the other guy was quoting me. That’s why I like American Home Shield, too. They bring people that are legit.

American Home Shield had Myers Comfort out following a service request we made. Their service was great and everything was done on the first go. American Home Shield handled this quite well. We called on a Tuesday and Myers came on a Wednesday. They called when they were in close proximity. They fixed the problem and I was 100% pleased with them. Based on our experience with Myers, American Home Shield was great but they could work on things. We have two homes. On a previous experience we had with reference to our AC, we canceled. My husband and I weren't pleased with American Home Shield.
We had an air conditioner problem and the air condition was over $4,000. Our understanding was that you pay a service fee, which was fine, for a contractor to come out. But after someone came out and assessed the problem, I didn't think that we were supposed to pay anything. We ended up paying all and American Home Shield reimbursed us $600. You have to go through a process and it was a miscommunication between American Home Shield and whoever they had to do this problem. We get paid upfront.

I saw the washer and there was a pipe connected to the wall. So, I found a lot of rust from out of the wall. The guy who came over told American Home Shield that there was no leakage. But obviously if we have rust on the pipe, then there would be some leakage. So, I didn't trust him. I called AHS and ask them to send the other company.
AM PM was very professional. They not only found the leakage one place but they found even further problems, which were big ones. If they didn't get it fixed on time, I would've had big trouble. So, I appreciate that. They came over, diagnosed the problem, talked to AHS, we got agreement and they came back very fast. I was very satisfied when we fixed the problem. During the pandemic, it was very hard to call AHS. So, I waited. After our guy came over, I tried to call back. One time, I gave up when it was an hour and the other time, one hour and 30 minutes and I got through. But other than that, the reps at AHS were nice and they assigned the right person to come over.

Having filed a claim for a slab leak, American Home Shield assigned Sirius Plumbing & Air Conditioning to come out. They were great. We decided to take the check four weeks ago and AHS said it would be here in 7 to 10 days. But I have not received it yet. Another thing with AHS is you can hardly get a person ever when you're contacting them. That's hard. I needed a ceiling fan. Scaffolding was needed and the company assigned to the claim didn't do it. We cancelled the claim. I went in to try again and AHS assigned the same company and there was no way to get a different vendor. AHS just sent me the same exact electrician that I knew wasn't gonna do it because they needed scaffolding.

I filed the claim online as it was hard to get over the phone. I have to wait an hour and 30 minutes. I've had two cancellations with AHS and both times, they didn't contact me to tell me that the appointment was cancelled because they didn't service my area or even provide the service. Then both times, I reached out to the company to ask when we could set the appointment. They told me that they had already told AHS that they could service me. I had to sit on hold both times and wait to speak to someone to even get someone else out. That was not very good.
I had two people come out. One of them was good. One was not the best. The day I had called, he didn't sound like he knew what I was talking about when I said, "Home warranty." He was supposed to come out early that morning. I waited for three hours and he never showed up. I ended up calling him and asked him what happened. He said that the guy was late and he was intending on calling me but he never did. Then he showed up about two hours later. So, they were here late in the day versus early in the morning and then it was kind of awkward. But he got the job done.

Something burned out in the microwave and the contractor needed to replace the circuit board. Then, when I ran the icemaker, some of the parts fell into the ice into my cup. It was broken and they just replaced the whole little box that the ice falls out of. Express Appliance ordered parts when they came out. They said it was supposed to be delivered to my house, so I was not to open the box. I waited for two weeks but I hadn't heard anything. I called American Home Shield and it took me 45 minutes to an hour to get through to somebody. The girl said she didn’t know if they were able to find the parts and they would have to look into it. She finally came back over to me and said that they didn't think they could find the parts, and that they would be replacing the unit. I just wanted it fixed and then, the very next day, the parts showed up on my doorstep. So they were there and available, and the contractor fixed it. It went very well and it was perfect.
We've made several calls to American Home Shield and I've always been very pleased with it. I recommended my mom to get it and she did. My wife bought the house over a year ago and got American Home Shield then. She's just renewed the policy for another year. Recently, Relaxed Heating and Air came out and I wasn't all that impressed. I wouldn’t ask them to come back out to the house again. I didn't happen to be at the house but my wife was. They got there quick and we had explained the situation. They looked at the thermostat and immediately went outside and replaced the motor in the outside unit. There are some wires attached to the top of the air conditioning unit with plastic ties. That was how they put it back in there. They weren't there before and I don't know if it was an older unit that they had to use a different motor. But that plastic tie wasn't gonna last on top of that with the sun beating down on it for very long. If that tie lets go, then the wires that it's holding up are not gonna be very good.
After they had left, we had some air for a little while then it stopped working. I called back and spoke with somebody at the office. I asked if anybody even took a look at the thermostat to make sure that it was properly set. My wife said they looked at it, saw what it was, flipped the switch, and went out and fixed the motor. The girl said she put a note on her boss's desk to have somebody come back out and look at it. But from the day they did the work last Wednesday or Thursday until today, nobody's called back or come out and looked at it.
It is now working because when I was there this weekend, I flipped a couple switches up and down and got some things done. But originally, we thought there was a problem with the thermostat. So, I called the thermostat people and didn't get a call back from them either. I went on Google and YouTube-d it, and we reset it. But because we had reset it prior to those people getting there, I wanted to make sure that they looked at it and made sure that all the toggles were where they were supposed to be because that particular thermostat is set up to use either gas or electric.
I'm not a heating or an air conditioning person but somebody should have at least called to make sure it was okay. Nobody did. If nothing else, somebody should’ve dropped by and checked it. To go one step further, we were kinda hoping we could get the people who replaced the condenser in that less than a month ago to come back out. They were pretty sharp and on the money. But I kinda know how the ship works. American Home Shield got different vendors and they gotta give them all some work. At this particular juncture, I don't even know if the thermostat is correctly set behind the faceplate because there's a set of eight toggle switches back there.
We do apologize for the late response pertaining to your air conditioner. We would be more than happy to assist in a resolution in this case. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

The process of submitting a claim hasn't always been very easy. I feel like I get a lot of resistance every time I try to ask about something and that a lot of things aren't covered that I thought would be. That's kind of frustrating too. The issue was that the garage door was not working. The motor wasn't going. I called out the guy and the service tech was able to fix that so that went well. He figured out pretty quickly and got it up and running.
The most frustrating part was talking with American Home Shield. When I worked with the agents, every time I call in, it's kind of frustrating. I feel like I get talked over a lot. I would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone. After looking into it, I pay a $75 service fee for anything that has someone come out to do. Both those things that I've had fixed, I could've easily gotten done for that same price just going straight to the source. The guy who fixed my garage door did it really quickly. He pretty much just had to wire some things up. If I called him out directly, I felt that he would've charged $75 for what he did just from having conversations with them.
The same is true for some oven service that I had. I paid a $75 fee and pretty much he just came out and looked at it based on the model number and ordered a part like I could've done. I couldn't have put it back in and he was able to assess some of the things that I wouldn't have been able to do. But it was a $75 fee for something that took him 20 minutes. It seemed kinda high. So, so far, I feel like I've spent a lot more money on services that I was kind of expecting, based on the notion of a home warranty, would be less because I have a home warranty. I'm paying both more for the services and also for the plan itself.

I have two refrigerators. The icemaker on the Frigidaire wasn't working properly and everything on the top two shelves of the Whirlpool would freeze. I called American Home Shield and they sent out Big Kountry. They brought an icemaker but they didn't hook it up because they said that they saw I had an infestation. They didn't do anything. Also, the guy told me that the Whirlpool couldn't be repaired. They left and I didn't hear anything.
I called Home Shield back and it was very hard to get them. I called on 7/10 and someone was supposed to call me back. Then, I talked to Josie on 7/20, Alan on 7/26, Jennie on 7/26 who was supposed to send me an email and Adrian on 8/3. Each time, I requested a supervisor and not one time did I get a call back from a supervisor.
Home Shield sent 3 Boys out here and they were very nice. They said that the waterline had been eaten by some critter but they said that Home Shield will not pay for them to repair the lines that the critter had eaten. Also, they didn't do anything for the refrigerator that freezes up. They told me that it had a Freon leak but they didn't know where it was and they weren't sure that the Freon leak could be repaired.
Then, when I called Home Shield, they told me that they don’t have a report from the contractor. 3 Boys said they sent it to them on July 23rd. When I talked to Home Shield's rep, she told me 3 Boys sent a report on the Frigidaire but they didn't send one for the Whirlpool. The rep was very patient with me. She got 3 Boys on the line and they told her that the Whirlpool had some type of leak and they couldn’t repair it. So Home Shield is sending me a third contractor out here. I've been going around with American Home Shield since May 14th and I'm frustrated. I don't think this is good customer service. I can't get anyone out here to do any repairs.

I've used American Home Shield twice, and the past two times, I didn't have any problem with them. A & A Heating & Cooling came out for my AC and they were very knowledgeable about it. The guy said a lot of the units right here were probably put in the house since 2002. He also said there was nothing wrong with the AC other than it is old and it has been extremely hot sometimes. He did the best he could and he said there was nothing to fix. The unit was dirty and he cleaned it out and said that it would help a little bit. He also explained that it makes our bill skyrocket. He said that if we wanted our bill to go down, eventually, we were gonna have to replace the whole unit. At another time, I had something break on the central unit and the response was quick. It ended up being the same guy and he did good at that time as well.

I have stuff added to my American Home Shield account that I had no knowledge of. When I found out about it, I asked them if they can remove it and they told me I will have to wait a whole year before I can have that removed off my plan. I asked why would they even add that on there. What we have is brand new, and it's under its own insurance. So if anything was to happen to it, we wouldn't even need to use the services to have it fixed. We’re paying an extra $18 a month for an electronic plan, and we don't need that.
American Home Shield is not upfront. I asked their rep, “Considering they’re gonna be coming out, do this company work on AC unit?” She said, “No, you have to pay an additional $100 because that's another program. That's another installer or someone else has to come out and do that.” So we pay $100 to each person that comes out here. The guy pulled up to work on the plumbing and outside was his van. He has AC, plumbing, and everything else which all align into what I needed. But they told me, “No.” Other than that, the person that came out was very thorough. He was very respectful to my home. He had his shoes wrapped and his mask was on at all times. He was letting me know what was going on and what was causing the issue and he fixed it.

I had an AC claim with American Home Shield where they sent Pro Comfort out. The tech was quick and right to the spot. He amazed me. He wasn’t even here 10 minutes. He was wearing his mask. I told him that the fans kept returning on top. He said, “Well, that's a plus sign.” So, he went right directly to the capacitor and checked it out, and it was bad. He got a new one, put it in, and then he was out, so we're good. American Home Shield's service is fine, but I’d like to know why they raised my rate up $6. It was 54.99. Now, it’s 60.99. They didn’t tell me they were raising the rates. I've been trying to call them to ask them why, but I'm always on hold for an hour and a half to two hours. I ain’t got that time to waste.

My water heater claim was handled beautifully. It appeared that it was leaking but I didn't really know so I let it go for a while and when it was obvious there was some water coming from someplace, I placed a service request with Home Shield. A gentleman from A&G came out and he was very cordial and professional. He indicated he thought it might be that little piece on the top and he changed it. I waited a couple of days because I wanted to make sure there was no water coming from any place and it eventually dried. I had put everything back in the closet because it's obvious it's fixed.

The little latch on my microwave wasn't latching, so the door wasn't staying shut. I did a claim online about the week of July the 4th and a lot of places had shut down for that week. Gilmore called promptly after the week of the 4th, but I didn't know if they were shut down that week or not because I didn't hear from them at first. When they came out a couple weeks ago, the guy didn't have the part for my microwave, so he tied it up with a rubber band. That worked really well and then the next week, the parts came in. He came back and changed the parts out. He was great and it all works well.

I wasn't getting air in certain rooms. I live alone so I only use one air conditioner unit. The young fella from May Heating and Air came out and checked my air. He was a very young smart guy. I was using the top AC and he told me that I needed to use the bottom as well. He turned that one on and said to just leave that on. He made sure that the vents were turned properly. I appreciated him and he showed me how to turn my blinds and how to get air. He had his mask on too. I noticed a difference in that room where he turned the vent around, but my room is normally the coolest. Then the air downstairs is superb. I was concerned about the air up top. It's not super cold, but it’s tolerable. I have had some contractors that come out and they were horrible. I also have had some that come out and they were great.

Following a service request for a garbage disposal issue, American Home Shield had CNJ Services do the work. When I called them the first time, the garbage disposal was making noise when we turned it on. But the water wasn’t going down. It wasn’t working. CNJ came out and they replaced the garbage disposal. But anytime we would turn it on, water would be shooting up to the ceiling in the room on the left side of the sink. The day after, I opened another ticket stating that the work wasn’t done right.
The same company had to come back out and they told my mom when they connected the garbage disposal. They did a good job. It had taken them two times to come and fix it but they fixed it right. The garbage disposal is working fine now. Sometimes it shoots a little bit on the left side but nothing like it was doing before. This repair has made washing dishes and cleaning up a lot easier. With American Home Shield, there is peace of mind knowing that if something happens I will get my stuff fixed at home.

We used to have Sears but they just kept up and up in price. Soon, I could buy a new item for what I was paying them but that was when I was working at the firehouse. I'm retired now, so I said I didn't need them. I started looking around then I decided that maybe I needed a home warranty and I signed up with AHS. So far, the contractors that they sent out have been excellent. Recently, there was an issue with our refrigerator on the outside. You can get water or ice by putting your glass up there, but something happened to a part that provides that. I submitted a service request with AHS and they sent out the techs from Foothill Appliance. They did a good job but they didn't have the part and had to have it made from a 3D printer. That took quite a while for several weeks, but everything is wonderful now and the refrigerator works like a charm.

Every time we would do laundry downstairs, it would back up into our downstairs bathroom sink and flood our entire basement floor. The drain was not draining properly. I filed the claim and the technician was quick. They gave us a time of 1:00 pm and he called us early and said he had an opening so he came way before the 1:00 o'clock time.
We kept having a different plumber come out through American Home Shield. We've had plumbing issues since we’ve moved in three years ago. They come out and snake the drain each time with the same company. This one was a new company that came out, and the guy identified why we were having the issue. He said we needed to cut the piping and redo it and that literally solved the problem. He’s not gonna have to come out and snake it again multiple times. He had to come back at once because when he was drilling a hole to fix the sink part of it, something shook loose in the sink. When we would turn on the water, it would start pouring out of the piping. But they fixed it and it was like a 10 minute job. We were very happy with that company. I'm glad we kept our warranty ‘cause we’ve had to use them quite a bit and we've never had an issue with them on any of that.

I like American Home Shield. I have problems that they always seem to solve. I had couple of run-ins but we all worked it out. When A-US Air first came out, they were good, but I had to call them back again. There was a situation where the guy was supposed to come back into the house to look at the thermostat and go up in the attic. He forgot to do that part and when I called back, they told me I had to do a new ticket. I was confused of why I had to do a new ticket, but I called American Home Shield back, and they told me there would be no charge. The guy came back out and he did the job good. He was very professional here. He also apologized to me and I told him I appreciated him apologizing as well as coming back. Everything turned out good.

I had a rekey done through American Home Shield and it was really fast. The contractor called within a day or two and set up an appointment. So, it went really smoothly. We’ve had American Home Shield since last year when we moved out here to a different home. It was the home warranty that the Realtor had suggested and negotiated as part of the sale of the house. They've been pretty responsive. I had some issues with my refrigerator and they came out really fast and they had the local contractor came out and repaired it. It was the same thing with my dryer. Everything was happening all at once and it was like stupid little things that were very easy to fix that we just didn't know about.
The only time I had one issue was when we had a leak in the bathroom and it took over five days to get a service provider out here. That seemed more of that they just weren't available. It was like an emergency call. Every time I talked to Home Shield, they were not letting me go outside and find my own plumber. So it took about five days to get someone out here. Home Shield could allow local repairmen or plumbers to come out. The person they had come out was from Stockton. That's over an hour away from us. We could have just gone with a local plumber that would have probably had a more reasonable response time. But every other request we put in, they've been very responsive. It’s gone pretty well.

Filing a claim is pretty easy. I can either call and wait in the queue or I can go online and set it up on the computer real quick. I usually prefer doing the computer because it just takes a couple of minutes. For the most part, the contractors have been really good. There have only been a couple of contractors that I really did not like dealing with. When the AC unit quit working because the compressor went out, I called American Home Shield and they scheduled an appointment. Elite Heating & Air Conditioning was really good about getting back to us. It was a Thursday night when I had the problem and they were here Friday morning and had it fixed for me in about five minutes.
I had an old microwave and it cost American Home Shield more to repair the item than it did to replace it. They should look at cost analysis and be aware that it's cheaper to replace things than repair them half the time. They'd rather repair everything and I understand the repair part but why spend $300 on a microwave that's not worth that much when they can put a new one in for $100 when it goes out.

The contractors came out the next day and it was a good service. It was very quick and efficient. It turned out that the drain pan into the condenser was overflowing and so, it did the automatic stop. The contractor cleaned out the drain that goes to the outside of the house. He was in and out in 30 minutes. The repair kept my air conditioning running more efficiently. I’ve used American Home Shield since 2000 and I’ve never had any complaints with them in former houses. The air conditioning wasn't working, so Weatherwise came out. They handled it pretty well. They got out here pretty quickly, too. American Home Shield's claims process is easy. You just do it all online. Last year, my AC went out, and the people they were using couldn't get here for a week. So, I had a problem with that. But this year, when I had an issue, they came right out. They had somebody come out and fix a leak in a pipe that I had last year as well, and they were supposed to give me a quote on getting the ceiling fixed because they cut a big hole in my ceiling, and nobody ever followed up with me about that. So I ended up just fixing it myself. But that was the only thing that they never followed up with me about.

Excalibur was our assigned service provider for an AC claim we had with American Home Shield. They had to come out twice to fix the compressor fan outside which is like 32 years old. I just bought this house. The first time they came, the problem had something to do with the Freon. I had to pay for the visit and I also had to pay them for Freon to put in the compressor. I don't understand about electronics or AC but within a matter of four days, the AC stopped working after they had come out the first time. They had to come back out again. It was the fan. On both times, the fan was out.
Now, the AC is working fine except for the part where you control the temperature. Every time I try to change the temperature, it says temporary on it and I don't know why. I told the tech guy that they keep coming out here every week and I have to keep paying a service request every time for them to keep coming out and fix the problem. They might as well replace the unit because it kept going out. Also, because it was the same problem which was the compressor, I asked if it was counted as the same problem and I was told that it was something else. I asked if I had to keep paying them because it didn't make sense since the unit broke within four days. The tech said that the last time he was here, that part wasn't broken. We were also told that American Home Shield is the one who said that if something is fixable, they don't replace it. But the thing is it's the same thing that's been fixed twice now.
This is a third service request for the AC since I've been here in May. There was also a different problem in May. I felt like it was leaking in the walls. But the tech said, "No, it's because you don't have the vent." We were painting the walls so we took the vent covers off. He said that once we put the vent covers on, it won't leak. It was great and there was no leak. Overall, my experience is pretty good. Contractors come out as soon as you ask. I just hope that the same problem doesn't happen one more time.

But it took two or three weeks before they got the part. So my wife and I was without an oven the first time for three weeks and then the second time, it was closer to four weeks before they got the part.
The problem was that they didn't follow up the way I wanted them to. There was a lack of communication between the company and myself. I had to call them and have to stay on the line. I was on the line one time for 47 minutes before I've got an answer. The only reason why I stayed on that long was that I was sitting at my desk and I had the phone available and I was doing some more work. But they finally got the part. They came in and replaced it. But I had to go through more changes than I ever expected I would have to go through to get the services that we got. It's taken too long to get things up and moving.

Home Shield's service is getting better. The recent person was excellent. And then, the person who called back and helped us was also great. His name is Tyler. He was helpful and he did fix everything. We liked the service now with him and with the other person. There was a leak on the kitchen sink and they changed some part in the kitchen. There was a leak in the bathroom as well and they just put the new part into the bathroom.
One thing that I complained about Home Shield last year was that we had a sump pump issue. We couldn't understand each other because of Patriot. The guy didn't correctly fix the problem and he just made up some stuff. All the basement was underwater. He came and then tried to fix the sump pump. But then he never said that there was this foundation problem at all. Later on, when we called Patriot and they told us that foundation problem. We called five different companies to see if it was a foundation problem, and all of them said it was not. It was just a sump pump issue. We called Patriot again and the rep said, “We’re gonna write the invoice like this.” There was a lady that said he invoiced Home Shield, but I don't believe she did something.
I thought that the homeowner's insurance would help us to at least fix some part like the sump pump. We couldn't convince Home Shield that it was a sump pump problem. They chose to believe Patriot. I understand that they're working with Patriot, but they need to help us. I don't care about Patriot or any other service companies here that they're working with. We need to trust each other first. I was happy to provide all the letters from five different companies that it was not a foundation problem but a sump pump problem but Home Shield didn't believe me. And then, I called them three different times. They never answered. We spent $6,000 from our pocket under this COVID challenging time. We changed sump pumps. They're completely new. We don't have any problem anymore and I believe I will not have any more problem.
This year, I was hesitant to get Home Shield's insurance again. I'm just comfortable working with them. I want to give them one more year to see if it will be fine. Otherwise, I'll stop it. Hopefully it will work out between us and we will continue for a while with them. I'll try to find another insurance company if ever it happens again.

My experience with American Home Shield has been outstanding. Submitting the claim is very easy when I do it on the internet. As long as I've got the login and password right, and I start saving it on my computer, it goes pretty smooth. Then a couple of hours or the next day later, I get a message with a schedule. The technician shows up one or two days after which is pretty good. It's within range. I used to have a different home warranty and they took a little bit longer. But Home Shield needs a little bit less of a lag between the service call and getting the technician to a house.
Most of the technicians care about the work. Sometimes, the scopes are a little bit different. I got a little bit of a hard time with the microwave technician because he's a technician and he doesn't take the microwave off because it's a unit that is fitted on the cabinetry. So I got to take the unit down. I wasn't aware of that from the get-go. If he or somebody have said that, we could have made this a whole lot smoother because I could have taken it down and I could have done a few things differently.

We read the manual and he showed me how to clean the oven. Nothing was broken so everything was fine. Also, he wore his mask and there were precautions taken for Covid. But I dislike American Home Shield in every way. We ended up paying $3,000 out of pocket in everything that we did. I’ve had AHS since July of last year and it has happened three times. I have a light with my pool and I had a problem with it. AHS said that they were gonna take $75 out of my account in order to send somebody to my house. And then, it wasn't even covered. I had a problem with a pool pump another time and he said that it looked like something that I did so it was not covered. But he took my money anyway.
We also had an air conditioner problem. Whenever it was hitting 104 outside, it was 98 degrees inside our home. We had four small children at home because of COVID-19. Our air conditioner went out and the contractor came out and said that Freon was not covered. They left and we were without an air conditioner for four weeks. AHS did get us a pool filter finally after I threw a fit but then, our pool was left green. I said that they decided that this wasn't covered and then it was covered, and I ended up having to pay $800 to get the pool professionally cleaned. They said that they would help me if I give them an invoice. They would pay me $100. But I was not even gonna send that in. It was not worth my time.
There are 14 different pool companies here in Amarillo and we've asked repeatedly to be able to choose a different contractor. They all say this one guy is a joke and I don't understand why AHS uses this guy when there's a plethora of other contractors that they could use that are actual professionals. Maybe it's because they don't want to do the warranty work and American Home Shield doesn't pay the time until 362 days out. This was what Doug, the technician, told me. He said he was doing this job for me now but he won't get paid for a year on it.
There's no sense in us complaining. I don't want to keep AHS. Theoretically, it'd be great because we've fixed a couple of toilets. I called somebody out to look at the toilet. It would have been covered under the home warranty but the call out fee just for Frank's Plumbing was $89 and to fix the flange, he was gonna charge me $700. I fixed it by myself at Lowe's for 25.

Our upstairs A/C unit went out almost 2 weeks ago on July 27th. We registered the claim online, and were contacted by the local vendor the next day. They sent a junior technician on Wed who was unable to solve the problem, but was going to "let his supervisor know" and they would return the next day (Thursday). Nobody came that day, so we left a message with the vendor (no answer on the phone), and called AHS the next morning. The vendor finally called back on Friday to say that they couldn't come back until the following Monday, a week after the request was submitted. The AHS recommendation was to wait, since they couldn't get a vendor any sooner.
On Monday 8/3, they sent the SAME technician that couldn't figure out the problem the first time. He was on the phone a lot and thought it "might be the circuit board", but it wasn't until the end of the day when the supervisor showed up to confirm. They ordered the part, and said that it would now be Friday 8/7 at the earliest before they could repair the unit, 12 days after the initial request. Friday came, and the SAME technician showed up again to install the part. He left saying that it was working and the unit should be cooling soon. However, by the end of the day, the air was once again humid, in the upper 80s, and the fan wouldn't turn on. Now, they say that the earliest they can come back is Tues 8/11.
I have called AHS about the problem, and their only recommendation is that since it's the weekend, it might be faster to wait for the current vendor than start over. The call center team has been polite and professional but completely unhelpful in dealing with a substandard vendor. The only recommendations from AHS have been to wait it out, but it will have been over 2 weeks in the middle of the summer, and we still don't have a working A/C system. They need to manage their suppliers better, and have a better method for escalation. We are very disappointed with AHS's response to the situation.

National Platinum came out to fix my freezer, my water maker, and the ice maker on my refrigerator. Other than the time frame that it took, the technicians did what they were supposed to do. It took several weeks for them to get it done but they did a pretty good job. It's working fine since. I've had Home Shield for five years now and it's a pretty good convenience to have. When items get broken, it's good to have.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I typically do claims online and it's an easy process. Home Shield assigned Cabot Mechanical for an AC claim I had. Everything went well and everything is working. The thing, however, with Home Shield is depending on the claim that you open with them, they can make your life really difficult. If it's something like the AC this time, it was super easy because the contractor was able to fix the problem in the first visit. But I had experiences where that I had to call five, six times, and beg Home Shield to send a second technician or company to do a second opinion. In the end, I was able to make it work. But it's a battle with them. If Home Shield sees something that is more expensive than what they saw, it's an uphill battle with them to get somebody to do the job on their behalf.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

The website was easy to maneuver through but American Home Shield sucks. I hate them. They're terrible. The only contractor I've ever liked was Green 2 Crystal Clear Pools. One contractor cussed me out. My fridge is broken and the contractor never showed up. I called American Home Shield and told them that they have to send somebody. I just had $1,000 of food go bad. They said they were sorry and they promised they would call me personally and get it taken care of. But that was a week ago. Their hold time is two hours. I'm very upset right now. I still haven't heard back from anybody. I am a single mom and I thought the warranty was safer to have. But they take $100 deductibles from me and then they don’t show up. I'm a Realtor and I'm not letting any of my clients near them.

I love American Home Shield. I've already recommended them and I speak with everybody about them. My nephew and another friend have contracts with them. My only complaint is there are additional fees sometimes. I had to have my air conditioner unit replaced, but the people charged a $1,200 excess fee. The space was tight, but $1,200 was a lot of money. Then there was something when I had to get a new hot water heater. This was Grade A Plumbing and they did a good job installing the hot water heater. However, two things weren't covered and that was almost $600. Maybe there can be a limit to additional charges that these companies charge. I purposely have American Home Shield because I am a single parent and on a budget. When companies come and they charge whatever they want to additionally, that's more of a hardship for me.
I was having an issue with my oven so I called the gas company to make sure it wasn't a gas leak with the oven and it wasn't, but they found one in the basement. The gas company had to turn the gas off. Until that was fixed, they would not turn the gas back on. The contractor came out Tuesday and I put the claim in Thursday. I thought it was a little long, but maybe they figured the gas was cut off anyway. But the person who came out, Roy, did a good job. I'm gonna put in a claim soon for my oven. I canceled the claim once the gas company found the gas leak and I put in for the plumber to come out. Once I put the claim in for the person to come out to check the oven, I don't know does that work. Is there a list that I can look at or would they send someone. They sent someone out from Sears in the past for my refrigerator. I could just request that Sears come out and look at my oven but I would have to call because they don't give you the option online.
There was one company that I had a complaint with because they gypped me out of money. When someone was coming out to look at my HVAC system, the guy said that it was a shredder leak. He claimed he fixed it and charged $400 for the refrigerant, but he didn't fix the leak. The refrigerant leaked out and I had to get someone else to come out. I don't know if that was just that one person, but I don't want them ever in my house again because that was money that I didn't really have to kick out.

American Home Shield provides great service. When a part for my dishwasher was discontinued, I received a phone call from American Home Shield saying I would get a replacement on my dishwasher. A Town was the contractor they sent. The company reached out to me as soon as the claim was filed and they told me that I had to have the appliance for them to do the installation. I was to reach back out to them once I had it.
A Town did very well and their technicians were nice. It was just the company that delivered the dishwasher took two and a half months. That was my issue. I would call every couple of weeks. My wait time would be three and four hours when I'm waiting for someone to come on. There was only one time when after waiting for two hours, I was prompted to be in line and someone would call me when it was my turn. That was very good but to have somebody on hold for two hours before that's initiated, that wasn't an option. I'm working from home so I'm on call too. Everyone has had to adapt during this time and American Home Shield's customer service could do a better job adapting.

The days I was calling American Home Shield was 24 hours of waiting. I would wait six hours. I just let the phone ring because I was watching TV. And I'm getting this from all the people that work for these companies that are coming into my house. The representatives are absolutely excellent but getting on the phone is hours. I calculated all the hours that I waited. It was almost 24 hours in a matter of the two weeks that I tried to call, and that was horrible. Right now, I had three different representatives come to my house because they couldn't figure out that the microwave was broken. They said, “Oh, it's got power.” “Oh, it's your electric.” Nobody would take it down. I have to get a friend of mine to take it down because nobody took it down. The gentlemen that came from the different places were all very nice, but nobody took it down.
Finally, I spoke to one representative of AHS where the ordering department was. They sent me a check. So, I got the microwave. I have to send receipts to AHS because I didn't do it yet because I haven't had time yet. So finally, I got the thing. I don't even wanna call because I’d wait hours. I guess I'm gonna pay somebody to install them for me because I got the dishwasher yesterday. They sent me money for those things and today this morning, I'm waiting for the guy from Big Al’s to come.
There was someone from Asko that got my panel on my electric stove installed. That was what went out, and my oven didn't work. The top works but the oven didn’t. So, he came and he changed it, but we never tried to see how it worked. He just installed it, “Okay, it’s done,” and left. He got attitude I didn't like. But the guys from R&R and Big Al's are excellent. The one from Asko was just not doing it. He said, “Oh, no. The microwave’s fine. You have an electrical problem.” I didn't have an electrical problem because another kid came from R&R and he said, “No. The electrical is fine.”
The guy from Asko replaced the thing on the back of the oven for the oven to work. We were waiting for it to go at 350. It never came on to 350. It just kept preheating. So, my son threw a pizza in there and it burned the pizza. So now this morning, Big Al’s called me and said, “Oh, we got the part.” To call AHS is a trip. I can't wait. My family is like, “Ma, you’re still on the phone?” I said, “This is ridiculous, but I have to do this.”
I was calling the lady from Big Al's. I love her. She's so nice. She’s work with all these companies. She said American Home Shield is the best one. I never had any problems like this before. Just the waiting on the phone is very frustrating. So now, Big Al’s is coming this morning to put whatever that needs for the relay. I'm gonna ask them to wait to make sure it goes on to temperature because the other guy just said, “Okay, it's in." It doesn’t even work. Good thing I have a toaster oven to be able to put things in it when I need the oven part.
Other than those, I've had no problems with Home Shield. I understand we're all going through this time right now. I know that everybody's got their issue and problems and we're just trying to get through life right now. But the timing to wait for an operator is ridiculous. They're all excellent. Kudos to them. Every person that I spoke to were so kind. They always say, “Would you give us feedback on your experience?” But then they hang up the phone really quickly when I was ready to do it. AHS needs to get people to answer the phone.

Our air conditioning unit stopped working Monday evening, so I put in a claim hoping that I could get someone assigned and reach out to them to come look at it as soon as possible. American Home Shield is always really quick about sending their recommended contractor to come out. So I got one first thing on Tuesday morning. I reached out to Climate Masters but unfortunately, I didn't have an appointment until that Thursday, but it is what it is. They came out and finished the work. A comparable price would've been about three times what I paid if I didn't have the deductible from American Home Shield. So I was pretty happy with the service.
I've used American Home Shield before for a couple other appliance issues in the past. I reupped my contract for another year with them and I've been really happy so far. When I first signed up for it, I had to put through a couple of claims immediately due to some issues we were having with some appliances. So I'm pretty familiar with the process now. But it's super simple. You just go on the website to request a claim. All my information auto-populates and I just have to select what the issue is. I haven't had any concerns with that so far. The only caveat to having someone managing your claim for you is that you don't get to pick your service provider. I had one issue in the past where I was not able to get an appointment with someone with the time frame and American Home Shield recommended someone else that was able to come out quicker.
The pricing is very straightforward. The contract itself that they send in the mail and is available online is pretty straightforward. It's been an easy process to realize that if any of your major appliances go up, it's a one-stop shop and you can go and kinda have someone manage the whole thing for you. So I find it to be pretty convenient. My parents live in Texas and their air conditioning unit went up two days ago. They don't have a home warranty and they had to pay for a whole replacement unit, which was over $3,000. But when I had an issue with my air conditioner, the contractor was able to come out and fix the issue and diagnose it for $75. So when you pay for that whole year of $400 for the contract, it more than makes up for itself.
Thanks for sharing your feedback. Although we hope there are no issues in the future, we are here if you need us.

My air conditioner started screaming. I turned it off and I called American Home Shield. They scheduled the appointment right away and it went smoothly. The appointment was for Friday and the company called me on Thursday and said that they had an opening if I had time. So they came early. The guy knew what he was doing and fixed my air conditioner right away. It took him less than an hour. He replaced the motor and it was flawless. It was a seamless transaction. It was really hot these days and I was impressed that they came here early.
I made three claims on the same day. I'm still waiting for the other two to be attended to. But so far, everybody has done what they've said they're gonna do. So overall, I'm pleased. I had somebody come out for a plumbing issue. But there was some drywall that needs to be cut. Apparently, everything is covered except for the cutting of the drywall. So a handyman is coming to my house to do it. Then I'll get back to reschedule with the plumber. It's not super convenient but it's fine. The other claim was for what I thought an electrical issue. But come to find out that it's a broken ceiling fan, which is also gonna be attended to. So the electrician was already out. He's waiting to get approval from AHS so that he can go ahead and do it. But I'm pretty sure that AHS has already approved it. So for the most part, I'm pleased.

He fixed the plumbing part that was missing and the part that went to the washing machine. The faucet that he got is gorgeous.

When we moved, the agent gave us a free year with this warranty company but at the end of the second year with them, we had a guy come over and put in a brand-new air conditioner and screwed it up. So we went back to American Home Shield. They sent out a guy from Everyday Heating and Cooling who was absolutely super. He came out the first time and we had no Freon at all in our air conditioner and he had to fill it up. Five days later, we called back and he started coming in to check. He guaranteed us that until they could get this fixed, we would not be out of air conditioning. He said that we would not suffer and that we would be taken care of, and he did. Every five days, he was out there checking and making sure everything was right.
When the guy finally got authorization to do the additional check, the guy was out there on the button and handled it. He told us what was going on and why it was going on. When he found the problem, he came up and told us about that and told us what it was gonna take to fix it, and how long it would take him. He stood by his word and when he was all through, he told us to not hesitate to call if we would have any problems. He was friendly and very confident. He didn't drag his feet and spend a whole lot of time. He did what he needed to do and let us know what was going on and went to his next job. We were very impressed with him. Now, the air conditioner works better than it was when it was brand-new 'cause the guy that installed it brand-new was the one that did it wrong. My wife and I have been with American Home Shield for quite a few years. I'm happy and I'm staying with them.

JTL Services did a great job. The dryer and the panel that sits on top of it, which you turn on and off, was stripped and it was not working properly. So, the technician had to replace the timer. He was able to get the part locally, so it just took one day. With American Home Shield, I don't have to worry about tracking down a contractor. They already have them picked out and I like that I don't have to waste my time. Hopefully, they have done a good job of picking those vendors, and so far, they have.

I bought my policy when I bought the house and I've had it for about two years. American Home Shield made submitting claims an easy process, but it'd be nice if the policies were more clear on what they cover and what they don't. Sometimes it's vague, and I think it's vague for a reason ‘cause they’re not quite sure what the damage is or what has gone wrong. With our AC claim, Clovis Heating and Cooling came out for my unit and they did a good job. We had one issue with the refrigerator prior to this one and it took over 48 hours for me to get somebody out or for me to get ahold of anybody from American Home Shield.
My food was going bad and the refrigerator wasn't working. They also didn't have anybody in the area, so I didn't have a good experience the first time and ended up paying for that out of my own pocket to get taken care of. I didn't bother with submitting it for reimbursement to them because it was too complicated. On the other hand, the second time with the AC has worked well and I'm gonna keep them around for a little bit longer. I'm renting out the house now, so it's nice having them in case something goes wrong.

Back in February, 495 Garage Door came and replaced the garage. They put in a new motor and a new chain. They came a couple of times to finish the whole process. And then a few days later, we saw screws on the floor. The pandemic hit. Then my husband, instead of calling Home Shield and 495, he just went up the ladder and put the screws in himself. And then, nothing happened after that. But somewhere along the way, the code that we put in when those guys were here automatically changed to 0000. I'm not sure why and how that happened. And then, it completely stopped working again. The chain broke because the screws were still loose and still dropping down. I called 495 directly first and they said that we need to go through Home Shield. I called them and they sent 495 again. The guy came that day and he fixed it.
I tried to call Home Shield last week when the contractor was supposed to come. I called for four days straight and nobody answered at their end. I was on hold for 40 minutes every day. The system would say to leave a message and, “We will call you back,” but no one called me back. What I was trying to call them for was an issue that was already there before. It was disheartening because the kids go in that garage to get their bikes and stuff all the time and the screws fall up and down. This guy who just came put in extra screws and tightened it. I hope it's gonna be fine this time.

I had a leak in the tank water heater American Home Shield never resolved the claim. I called July 25th which was a Saturday, and that's when the tank water heater started leaking. They said not to worry and opened the case. They read me a plumber in my area and I went to Yelp to look up their reviews. They gave me Budget Rooter first but they had 1-star reviews. I told American Home Shield I didn’t want them so they gave me Advanced Plumbing and Rooter. They had 3.5 stars, and that’s better than 1.
American Home Shield scheduled with Advanced Plumbing and Rooter. They gave me their direct line. I tried calling them but they never answered. I called them again multiple times on Saturday and Sunday but still, there was no answer. I called them Monday morning and there was no answer until 9:30, at which point they said they've received the claim from American Home Shield and they're closed on the weekends. Another thing that American Home Shield should know is which plumbers are open on weekends if you have an emergency.
The earliest Advanced Plumbing and Rooter could come out was Tuesday. I told them my water heater was still leaking and asked if somebody could either drain it or do something. They said they didn't have anybody to come out. They came out Tuesday and essentially took pictures, looked at it, and said it was an internal leak. It couldn't be repaired. They wrote up a ticket and their recommendation was to replace it. I asked how long before they could get a replacement. They said it would go back to American Home Shield and they’re gonna have to approve it. There could be additional costs. I asked what the additional cost was. This is a 5 year old house and the tank water heater may even be under warranty. They just had to replace the unit. They said it looked like I had some sort of an expansion tank. I told them it came with the house. They said American Home Shield should be in touch with me on the next steps.
I called American Home Shield again on Tuesday and they started escalating the case to see if they could process it faster. I waited till Wednesday to see if they could do an approval. I called American Home Shield again and they said it was still pending on the Authorization Department. I called them again Thursday and Friday but there was nothing. By Saturday, it had been a week and it was still leaking. I called them, and said, “This is ridiculous. A week has gone by. You've got the paperwork from Advanced Plumbing and Rooter that it needs to be replaced. All you have to do is authorize it.” When I called early in the week to Advanced Plumbing and Rooter, they said it was under warranty. As soon as they get the authorization, they can take the order out, swap it in, and they'll come and put it in.
I call American Home Shield and there is an hour hold time everyday. Each time I get to an agent, they tell me they’re doing everything they can. It’s being escalated. But American Home Shield never came back and never authorized the repair. The plumber has noted it’s leaking, supplied pictures, taken a picture of the serial number and model number. It's been over two weeks and they haven't resolved it. Somehow, it's lost in their system and yet, it stays open. What I did was, just over a week into it, I paid myself and got it replaced. We are now on August 11th. I was assured this would be escalated and it would be resolved. It hasn't. Literally, I paid $75 for a plumber to come out and confirm it’s leaking. I could have told them that and send them pictures.

I had a very satisfactory experience with the GE Appliance man. I found him to be very helpful, prompt and professional. Then, he submitted his findings and it kinda deteriorated after that. I'm not having a very satisfactory follow-up experience with American Home Shield. The repairman determined that my dishwasher was not able to be fixed since the part is no longer made and recommended a replacement. This was approved and I was sent a form that had three options - one is that American Home Shield would purchase and install a Whirlpool stainless steel dishwasher, or I could get it from Home Depot, or American Home Shield would send me a check or reimburse me for one that I bought myself. I sent in a request that American Home Shield buy and install the Whirlpool dishwasher that they said they would. I have not had any response back and I spent about three hours on the phone being transferred from one person to another. Finally, the battery on my phone went out so I had to start all over again.
I still have not had the issue of my dishwasher being resolved and I don't think that the amount of money they are reimbursing is equal to the quality of the one that I have. They never answered. I kept being handed off from one phone person to another. Each one of them required at least 20 or more minutes of wait-time and I was in a line for a call. Finally, after the fourth person that I talked to, they said I could give them my number and they would schedule a phone call to phone me back, and they never did.

The air conditioner was not working. A fuse was out, there was a leak somewhere outside, and it was blowing hot air inside the home. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came over and looked at everything, inside and out. That was the second time I requested them. They were straightforward and honest with me, and took care of the issue.
I just wish there was better communication between me and Home Shield after having talked to the contractor. Let's say there's an issue with the AC. The contractor would tell me and then he would say, "All right, well, let me contact the company, let them know what's going on." "Okay, no problem." And that was it. We can go for a week and no communication from anybody. I would have to call Home Shield and ask, "Did you guys hear anything from the contractor?" "Oh, yeah, we heard just five days ago. They told us this and this and that." "Okay, well, I wish I would've known. What's the next step here?"

My experience with AG Appliance Repair went very well. I specifically asked for an English-speaking person and I could understand his English. Because the reps have an accent and the thick accent was very hard to understand. They can't speak in proper English and we just can't communicate. I gave up on my dishwasher. My dishwasher was never fixed. It just doesn't heat. But the refrigerator was fixed. The submitting-a-claim process at AHS was easy too. I just pay my money and they take it out of a credit card.

There was an issue with the icemaker and American Home Shield sent out Midwest Marketplace. They analyzed and found out it was the pump that had the issues, and they corrected it. Submitting a claim to AHS is simple but they should increase some of the limits on what they have for items like sump pump costs to factor in more expensive homes. It should not be a generic price for all. Still, they did a good job.

City First Electric came out for the attic fan and they didn't handle it very well. They were not good. I engineer and design that kind of ventilation systems for the Navy, so I'm pretty familiar with that type of fan and how they work. The City First Electric guy got off his truck and said, "You have gable vents. I can tell you 99% of the houses have the attic fan installed this way and it's not covered,” before even looking at it.
He went and installed my GFCI outlet that was burned out. He replaced it and he was giving me a long spiel about how he buys only Chinese-made outlets because the American ones suck. He installed this outlet that had Chinese writing on the box in my kitchen. I don't know where he gets them from or the standards. I also deal with electrical at work and I've never seen that type of outlet. After he replaced the outlet, he said, “Plug in your espresso maker. See if it works.” I go to turn it on with just water, and he said, “No, no, no, put a pot in it.” So I put a coffee pot in it and it made coffee. As soon as it made coffee, he said, “I’ll take that.” That was pretty unprofessional.
The other thing was he took a quick peek into the attic access in the hallway and he went up there. He was up there for maybe 20 seconds, came back down and said it was not covered. I asked why it was not and he said attic fans are not supposed to be installed on gable vents. I told him they are. That’s standard practice. It's common as long as the feet per second and the restriction are taken into account and it's installed according to manufacturer's instructions. He said it's not covered and it is. I was very, very disappointed with that company. I would never use them ever again. I had my mask on as a courtesy to him because he was in my house and because it's standard practice right now in our current situation in the world. He didn't. He kept putting his on his chin and being open like that. That was another thing that was pretty unprofessional. There was a whole slew of disappointment there.
I have two GFCIs, one is in the kitchen and the other is on the outside wall of the kitchen. They sent an electrician out here and told me my exterior outlet was not covered. That was awful. Nowhere in my contract does it say that exterior outlets are not covered. To keep customers happy, it wouldn't be difficult to just tell the electrician to change out that exterior outlet. It's gonna cost $3. It's not expensive and the customer is gonna be happy. That would take a couple minutes of the electrician’s time.

Then, Gen-Tech came out and they did really well. They explained everything that could have been wrong and they went right to what they thought was the source. It turned out to be the first thing they thought of which was pretty easy for them. Also, they were wearing masks and they were sanitizing. Everything kind of worked out for the best. But when we replaced our hot water heater, we had to get it all up to code and we had to pay for that. Other than that, I have no other complaints.

American Home Shield has made the claims submission easy because it's online. I answer a few questions and then they contact the service company right away, and then the service company contacts me. It's very simple for me to do and it's efficient because I prefer not having to call somebody up if I can just do it online. It's exactly what I expect. The first time I had R Harris A/C come out, I had some water in the pan in my AC unit and they unplugged it. They also had some trouble with the capacitor, so they replaced that. Then a week ago, I had them come out and look at my AC 'cause the unit stopped working. They found out that the capacitor they put in had a defect and it wasn't working, so they replaced that. R Harris did a great job. They explained to me how it worked and what was wrong. I'm very happy with everything they did.

The initial call was for AC services but the contractor said that my main drain was clogged so they unclogged it. It didn't take long and I haven't had the problem again. I got American Home Shield in 1996 when I first got my house. I've been off and on depending on my money but they’re the only warranty I've ever had on my house. I have another one for my mom's house but I'm beginning to realize they're all pretty much the same.
I'm very hard to please so overall, I don't like warranty programs because of the service providers that they utilize. Some of them are scammers. For instance, I called in a few months back because my hot water heater was leaking. The plumber that came out for that told me all of this stuff that needed to be done. By the time it was all over, I would have been paying $1,200 out of pocket. I had to pay the $75 service charge too. I called someone that I knew. He charged me 120 and the hot water heater wasn't even busted like they said it was. American Home Shield was ready to cut me a check for a whole hot water heater but they need to do a better job. They need to make sure they're following up and getting feedback from the customers because we're getting ripped off over here. These people are getting paid and they're not doing the service.

The contractor that came out recently for my garage door opener was very friendly, very helpful and he came out and identified my issue and tried the logic board first to see if it works but it didn't work. So he got the whole new setup approved and got it taken care of and we're thrilled with it. However, sometimes AHS just takes the cheap way out instead of trying to do what's right. I haven't tried to take advantage of them, but as I've had issues arise, I definitely haven't hesitated to use them.
On the cheaper repairs, like the garage door opener or my icemaker that was messed up, they've been pretty easy to work with. It was no questions asked. They just jumped in and did what needed to be done. But I've been going back and forth since May on my air conditioner unit. I was just on the phone with them this morning and they were definitely just trying to do what's cheap in spite of the recommendation that it needs to be replaced by one of their contractors. This morning was a very good and pleasant experience though. I think it was because I called on a Saturday morning. Normally though, when I call during the week, whether it's morning or afternoon, I'm on the phone at least an hour.

American Home Shield had always been efficient. The first time I called them was about the roof and that was taken care of with no issues. Then the motor on our AC went out. After four years that I've been here, this is the first time I've had issues with my air conditioner. There was a long wait to get ahold of someone ‘cause of the COVID-19, but it wasn't too bad. I was waiting for the first people that Home Shield had called. Then I finally decided to call them back and I was told that the first company canceled the order. No one called me to inform me that they canceled the order 'cause they said they could not service me. So it was a good thing that I called them back. So better communication all around would've been perfect. But the person they did get was excellent. West End Mechanical had to take the whole thing apart to get to the motor but their tech did it successfully and neatly. As soon as he finally found the issue, it started working right away.

The AC was turning on and everything, but the house wasn't cooling off. I called in and asked about when to expect the contractor because no one had contacted me. Home Shield had my home number as my contact number. The company had reached out to schedule a time on that Friday, but they didn't get in contact with me just because I was simply outside. I called Home Shield back on Saturday and said no one has contacted me. I live in Yuma, Arizona and it's pretty hot. And then, Home Shield reached out to Fleshers Refrigeration and they reached out to me. They came that same day. Everything was great. They asked a few questions, and then went and looked at the unit and told me what the problem was. They had everything they needed to fix it on-hand, so then they went ahead and fixed. They replaced the refrigerant in my AC. The whole thing may have taken about 40 minutes.
I’m not home a lot so I didn't want to have something break when I'm not at home. I had to pay a month-to-month and the $75 whenever the contractor comes out. Since 2008, the AC has been serviced two or three times. I've had the water heater replaced two or three times, and I've had the dishwasher serviced. I've had a refrigerator completely replaced. The warranty could be a bit lower on the month-to-month charge because it went up over the years, but in the grand scheme of things, I'm not too mad about it.

I've been with American Home Shield for 13 years now. At first, I didn't like it at all. I would contact them and it would take forever for their contractors to contact me back. I would call them again and again. I have also dealt with AHS in the past for things I didn't agree with as far as things breaking are concerned. Their contractors would always cause my problem. They have a practice where I have to take the contractors they assign to me even though those individuals are not very good or are just trying to get money.
More recently, my AC stopped working one Friday. I went online and put in a work order through to American Home Shield. I got contacted on a Sunday and the reps said their contractor AC Plus would be out at my place on Monday afternoon. The contractor called me on Monday morning and said that they were in my neighborhood and could come out sooner. The tech told me exactly what was wrong and immediately fixed it. He knew what he was talking about and I didn't feel that the was taking advantage of me or trying to milk me out of some money. I've dealt with a lot of contractors who just say that my stuff is broken and needs to be replaced so that they can get money from me. The tech from AC Plus replaced the part that was needed and it has been working ever since. The process I went through recently was really simple and easy.

I had a problem with my refrigerator and American Home Shield sent Brandt's Appliance. They said they fixed the problem but it came back. This whole thing went on for a couple of months. They fixed it and it worked a little bit but it wasn’t making ice and wasn’t cooling. I called them and they sent somebody out, and they supposedly fixed it. Then, shortly thereafter, the same ice maker stopped working and I had no ice for several days. So, I called them back. About five days later, they came out but by then, the icemaker had started working beautifully. I tried to explain to him what happened but he said it’s working and he couldn’t do anything about it.
Then, not only did the fridge stop, but it stopped cooling again the night before. I called them and they replaced the circuit board. There are three electrical systems in the back of the fridge but they only replaced two. But be that as it may, it worked for a while and then it started acting up again. Somebody came out at no cost and they fixed it. They said something was freezing up behind the freezer.
I bought two ice makers that you put water in and put in the freezer. I haven't done that since I was a child and I'm 75 years old. That's what I have in the freezer making ice because this ice maker never goes more than a quarter full. So if you have several people and you make a little ice of it, there is none. I even went as far as buying another refrigerator because I had so much trouble with the claim. Now, I have a refrigerator in the garage and I have two ice trays in the bottom making ice. I said in my mind that I’m not gonna call back about this ice maker. I’ll just live with it until whenever.
I have an LG convection oven and the first week of May, the largest burner stopped working. It has a very large, a medium, two small burners and a warmer in the middle back. I dreaded to even call AHS. I waited a few days because after my experience with the refrigerator, I just didn’t need one more stressor. But I called AHS and they took the $100 on May 3rd. They sent somebody out from Sears who came out, assessed and said the burner was bad. It made sense to me because the burner wasn't working. They ordered the parts and when it came, I had to call them back to let them know. They came out, put it in and lo and behold, the burner didn’t work. So, before we left, the technician was on the phone with American Home Shield.
There was something in the back of the stove that needed to be repaired because it was not the burner. Now, I have my burner that they took out, the new that they brought and the stove is still not working. Something for the electrical part of the stove in the back was ordered and I have to wait for it to come. The technician claimed he couldn’t get it. So, he had American Home Shield order the part. Eventually, the part came and I called American Home Shield. Then I called Sears. They said that I called so, I have to pay for that cost. AHS has to call them. This is COVID and it takes an hour and a half on the phone to get American Home Shield. The calls take a long time.
When I had Sears on the line, I couldn’t reach AHS but I eventually did and they sent the Sears guy out. When he came out, the part wouldn’t work though. Now, I have an extra burner, the electrical parts in the back and the stove is still not working. I waited because it’s frustrating to try to reach somebody. Eventually, I thought that something was strange. This is not an old stove. It is not even fully 9 years old until September 1st. They can’t get the part and they keep getting the wrong parts.
I called AHS and I asked what model number they have. The model number that the rep read to me was not the model number for the stove. I got the manual right in front of me and I gave her the right model number and said that was why the parts didn't work. The burner probably worked because it’s a standard large burner for an electric stove, but the mechanics in the back have to be specific to the model. So, I gave her the model number and she said alright. I'm still waiting.
I just got off the phone with AHS this morning because I've been trying to reach them from Friday and no good luck. Sometimes you talk to somebody after you wait for an hour and a half, somebody comes on, deals with you and they couldn’t make any decision. They have to reach a supervisor. Then in the process, the phone cuts off and they don't call back. So, you're out of an hour and a half and you have to either call back that same day or some other day when you get ahold of all the anxiety and the stress of the calling.
I managed to reach somebody this morning after holding for an hour. The rep came on and she apologized. I gave her all the information. I wanted to know what was going on with the claim and she looked it up.Then, she reached out to Sears, even though I just told her everything. They're still in the process of trying to get the part. They now have the correct model number so, hopefully, that's the part that the guy thinks is wrong because I have no way of knowing. This is August and this was from May. I just got off the phone with the rep and I am waiting for them to hopefully get the right part, and my stove will be fixed. I love to cook and I cook at least every other day in my house. It’s annoying that my largest burner on my stove isn't working. Depending on what I'm cooking, and I'm using a large pot, it’s just not the same. I'm sure AHS is probably a good company but it's unfortunate that my experience is very bad.

My total bill was $400 and she said that if I didn't go through AHS and just called an HVAC place myself, my bill would've probably been easily close to $1,000. Everything was completed within a week and I felt good that when she left, the problem was fixed. I had an emergency call for my AC unit and initially, American Home Shield referred me to the one provider that they constantly use in this area when there's a problem with the air conditioner. But this organization was never able to come and when they did, they didn't seem to be astute in this area. I was on a call for five hours with American Home Shield trying to get them to change the provider and in the end, they made the call to Bayless and Sons. Once they did, I was told when the tech would be here and when he came out, it was rather late. But he knew exactly what he was doing. He was also professional, courteous, and expeditious. He took care of the problem in a matter of time and I was on my way to getting cool again.
But AHS could have checked with more than one provider. All they did was refer the claim over to a provider, then it was up to them to get back to American Home Shield, and they tell their consumer to contact that provider. But I've had interaction with that provider before and they never answered the phone. Also, American Home Shield's phone system make it very difficult for you to touch base with them on the phone. It could be because we're in the midst of all of this heat and I would give them the benefit of the doubt. But for this claim, I was on the phone for five hours plus.
Other than that, to a general homeowner, having the home warranty is beneficial and American Home Shield is the best. But to me, I rarely use them and sometimes I forget that I have them. For example, when my hot water heater went bad last year, I called the plumber and when he came, he replaced it and it was over $1,000. I subsequently remembered I had American Home Shield and I called them for a reimbursement, but they said no. The plumber that replaced it is one of the folks that they deal with but they said I should've called them before.

This is the first time I've used American Home Shield in the seven months that I've had them.
The dishwasher was clogged. So The technician from AT Appliances assessed the problem, took the arms off and cleaned them. With the refrigerator, the technician figured out that not only was the line frozen, but there was also a crack in the water tank. He ordered the part. As soon as the part came in, the office called and made an appointment for the technician to come out. I also liked that they called and let me know he was on his way. He came back the following week and fixed the problem. He wore a mask and he was very courteous and respectful. It worked fine and I was very pleased with the whole thing.

My water heater wasn't producing hot water. I didn't know how to change settings or anything like that. When the tech from Hers and His Plumbing came out, he looked at it and stated there was something wrong with the two thermostats because they were set so high but the water wasn't working. He swapped them out for me real quick and I have hot water now. It was a simple fix. The tech was in and out in about 30 minutes and it was all fixed, all better. With COVID-19 and everything, it was really a safe, easy repair. That was the best kind.
He was out a week and a half ago and I can tell the difference. In my shower, to get the water to a really nice warmth, I had to turn the knob all the way on, but now I'm like, “Oh, no, no, no. Back that off.” Also, one thermostat was set at 140 and the other one at 135, but we weren't even close to that temperature. We were getting about 112 degrees out of it. The tech put in the 120 and that's what comes out, which is what it is supposed to do.

I had two sinks that were draining slowly. One was because of the way the drain line was routed from the air conditioner into the sink. It also had algae growing in the pipes. The technician cleaned it out and it works great. He told me what to do if it starts slowing down again. Then, the other sink was a hair clog from the previous owner who did not do any maintenance in their life. The technician cleaned that out too and so all is good. He was on time, efficient and didn't leave me a mess so I was happy. When I submitted the claim, I had a little trouble with my password at first, but I got that fixed and it was easy.

I woke up on a Monday morning and my freezer was leaking and it wasn't freezing. It was also making a loud noise. So, I immediately put in a request to American Home Shield to get a repair on it. It took a little bit of time for me to hear from Gulf Appliance Repair. I called them and they told me that they had not received the request yet from American Home Shield. They told me as soon as they did, they would call me. So it was after 24 hours and then, they called me. They didn't have an appointment for several days and that was concerning because it was the freezer and everything in the freezer.
I let them know that I would need something earlier and they ended up calling me back and they gave me a sooner appointment. They ended up giving me two days. I spoke with them and they indicated to me that they had gotten a lot of requests because some of the companies that work with American Home Shield were going out of business with the COVID, so they had been really behind. We made the arrangements and the person they sent was good. The freezer ended up being fixed and the noise subsided. All ended well. Everybody who has come over here has been very highly qualified and capable. So, I've been happy with this service. It's just that when you're having that kind of need, the sooner the better. They should have enough vendors to be able to send someone over. It may be related to COVID that this has happened and maybe in the past, it hasn't been an issue.

My whole ceiling fell in ‘cause of my plumbing. I paid the 75 but I fixed it myself before Island Mann Plumbing got here ‘cause I had to have my water on and they were just gonna do the same thing. They were great. They came out, looked at it, and they said that’s the exact same thing they were gonna do. My whole piping is rotted. I have an older house that has galvanized piping in it. The plumber said it was going to keep breaking and I did plumbing for a few years and I understood the same thing that he was saying. But the plumber said that all AHS want them to do was just patch it up. The plumbing needs to be replaced but AHS won't pay for that. So I don't know what to do. I don't have the $8,000 to replace my piping right now. I was hoping that I could get some assistance but it wouldn't work with the warranty.
My air conditioner wasn't cooling two weeks before. I just paid the service charge and the technician said that the air conditioner was fine. It was just an older unit, and it would not keep up with the heat of where we live at this time of the year. I don't have trees around my house and it's 100 and some degrees here. The temperature is higher than what my thermostat is set on. I was making sure my air conditioner wasn’t about to fail on me so we had a technician come and check it out.

Jenaro of Doctor Cool came to check our AC. With all the people that came to my house, he was the best. He came on a Saturday and was on time. He was professional and knew what he was doing. He cared about what was happening to us and he checked everything. Some people who came here just stayed outside. But Jenaro checked the vents and he gave us advice on how to make it cooler. We have a humidifier that made it really bad for our vent. He was knowledgeable and I wanna commend him for that.
The thing, however, is it was so hard to call American Home Shield. Usually, I call them but it's like there's nobody really answering the calls. It's a three, four-hour wait so I just did my thing online. Also, last time when a guy came, I thought the Freon was included in the package. But it was not and we paid $573 for it. It was too much. That is aside from the $49 a month and $100 if we call American Home Shield.

The contractor came out 3 different times and we've had the same guy, Chauncey, every time. They've been very responsive. I have a tenant living there that’s fighting cancer and he really needed the AC working. Chauncey was able to juggle things around, get out there and get it fixed. He found the problem immediately. I've had a lot of different contractors around here and he is one of the best on AC.
I've got two different policies with American Home Shield and generally, I’ve been amazingly happy with them. I’ve had a number of different companies in different states and generally, it’s not been a good experience. But with American Home Shield, it has been. I have used a lot of these with tenant properties and they require the deductible when they get there, and my tenant doesn't want to give that. But the fact that American Home Shield takes the deductible when we book it is convenient as well as the fact that they immediately assign the vendor to go out there. The nice thing is we did have to have a dishwasher replaced and they replaced it. Most of the competitors try and give you $100 to go replace your dishwasher. I recommend American Home Shield and in other states, people have had problems but at least in Virginia, I’ve had none.

Jared, the owner of The Pool Guyz, was awesome as well as his company. I had them at the beginning of the season. They had to change the part of the motor and then the week before, they had to change out the grids in the filter. They were timely, efficient and came when they said they were gonna come. But I had another company that I worked with that I am not that pleased with. It was called Express Appliances.
My microwave and my oven are both Thermador brands and both broke during COVID. They came, diagnosed the problem and had to order parts for both. They said that the parts were gonna come directly to me and when I get them, I should call and I could make an appointment for them to come out and service. I said that it has taken me so long to get to them and I asked if I could make the appointment now. The man who was here said that I would need to wait until I get the parts. But I would go to the front of the line and I wouldn't have to wait because I already have my parts. So, I said okay.
It took a few weeks for the parts to come and then, it took another four weeks to get an appointment. They were supposed to come on June 25th and my window was 11:00 to 2:00. I called at 9:00 in the morning and I asked if they had any idea on what time they were gonna get to me because I needed to run an errand for my daughter, but I don't want to leave if they were on their way. The rep said that the serviceman was on a big job and he was gonna be here closer to 11:00. He said not to worry. I said there was no problem.
I went out, did my errand and at quarter of 11:00, my phone rang. They were calling to schedule my appointment. I said that I've waited five weeks for this appointment, besides the three weeks that it took for the part to come in. And the rep said that they had to reschedule that. The technicians were not gonna be able to come that day. I said that I called them this morning and confirmed that they were coming before I left the house. She said that they would need a cart to remove my double oven and they didn't have a cart. So, they couldn't come without it. So I said okay. They screwed up and I confirmed it. And then, they didn't fit me until the end of July, so I had to wait another month.
When they came in the middle of July, the cart that they brought to take out the oven was broken. So, they had to leave. Three days later with the cart and I finally got my oven fixed. Now, my microwave is not working so well and I called back while I was in my 30 days. I spoke to American Home Shield yesterday and I said that my microwave is not so powerful anymore. It takes so much more time than it used to. The guy said that he contacted the appliance place and they're gonna reach out to me to reschedule to come back. I still haven't heard from them. So, it has not been a great experience with them. My problems have been going on for months, so it's annoying.

I submitted a request for a plumber to come out and fix a leak under the kitchen sink. They charged me $100 even before they came out. The plumber came out and said he needed to get approval for the repair. I waited over a week to hear back from these people. Then I called and waited on hold for 90 minutes. Once I got a representative, they advised me that I they would not cover my repair. I asked that they review again and they offered to send someone else out. I agreed and the call magically disconnected. I ended up calling Sunshine Plumbing, a local plumbing company. They fixed the leak in about an 90 min. They charged me $200 and it was perfect. I received a letter from AHS confirming they would not cover my claim about 2 weeks later.
When I called to cancel, they had the audacity to charge me an additional $1.32 to cancel the contract after paying $100 for a do nothing service call and a few months worth of premiums. What a disappointment! Sears Home Warranty with all the financial trouble they are in, provide much better service and cover everything without any problems. They charged us $100.00 service fee then said our AC unit was not the correct size for our house. And so they could not help us. It is the correct size and has been for years working just great. We called a local AC repair office after reading that the one they sent had many many bad reviews. He did not have a clue how to fix AC The one we called on our own came out cleaned our AC unit and fill with freon. Works Great now. So we paid $350.00 for his service + the $100.00 to AHS Then they wanted another $100.00 to get a second opinion.
They will lie to get out of service. I know of many this has happened too. After our contract we are done with AHS. Plus 3 times they had us on hold for 2 hours before we could talk to a person and then put on hold another hour. She said she didn't have the authority to take care of the problem and there was not a manager there. I've called AHS 23 times and they haven't fixed the issue. We have been getting the hottest summer degrees above 98 most days with a brand new baby at home. ( And they know all this).
First no one ever answers the phone (they are either from the Philippines or Georgia), no courtesy, no professionalism, they don't hire competent contractors. I used AHS once 2 years ago and was fine. This year I made a valid claim for a hot water heater and they denied it. I would try and call them and the wait time is always 40 minutes plus wait time. I blew it off and just had it fixed myself, but they still charged me a $125 service charge for the pleasure of them doing nothing. 5 months later I had a mainline sewage that backed up creating a mess on the floor. I put in a ticket online. Several hours after no response I called them, waiting 51 minutes for them to answer. They said they would get in touch with someone and call me back within 4 hours.
The next day, I called them and waited over 40 minutes for them to answer. She said "I am sorry we didn't get back to you. Let me check on it and I will call you right back.". Several hours later I called back, and you guessed it, I wait over 45 minutes this time. She put me on hold for a very long time and came back and said "we can't find anyone, so you have an outside authorization so you can go and find someone yourself. Just have the plumber call us and get a preauthorization". I got someone out almost immediately. He diagnosed it and said it would be $300.
I called AHS several times which took several hours of the day. The plumber was waiting and he was pissed. He then said he will have to start charging by the hour for the wait. I finally get through and AHS person says the plumber needs to call their outside authorization line. Plumber calls that number and it isn't in service. I call AHS and wait and then she says "I will transfer you over directly", then the phone goes dead. I call back and wait 40 minutes for them to answer and I ask her to get the team on the line directly. She comes back and says "their number is going through, something is wrong with the lines."
I demanded I get approval on the line right now or the plumber will double the bill. She gets a supervisor and I get the approval and she took the plumber's number to do a follow up call. She tells me to send bill to ahsosa@ahs.com, which I did. 6 weeks later they send me an email saying "your claim is denied because you didn't have a pre-authorization". :O I have called them 3 times at 1.5 hours per call to get the reimbursement and they won't call me back.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

Then they reschedule at the last minute after you have waited all day (first available appointment was 7/28... at 4:09PM I was notified it would be rescheduled based on a day they picked... The first claim I filed was for a septic issue and I ended up having to get my own independent contractor. When I called the contractor that AHS gave me, they said that they no longer did work for AHS because of a payment issue.
Then, when my water heater died and I called the contractor that AHS gave me. I called them on a Monday and they told me they couldn't get to me until Friday. I had to go without water all week. I asked the contacts at AHS if there was any way I could get another contractor out to my house sooner since I didn't have any hot water and they said they could put me on a pre-approval for my independent contractor, but then that could take 24 to 48 hours. And at that point, once I call my own contractor, depending on how far they're booked, they could be out here on Friday anyway. Other than that, customer service-wise, AHS has been very responsive. Joe Lay & Sons who came out for my water heater was amazing. I even called their company and made a formal compliment after the services were rendered.

They're quick too. Also, we haven't had any trouble with American Home Shield. It's been really good. We had a different home warranty company to begin with, but we had a really bad experience with them. We came into this policy with preconceived notions and a bad general belief about what it was going to be like, but it has been a lot better than what we expected it would be.
With our previous company, we had an AC unit go out, and the condenser coil in the attic had to be replaced. We paid to have someone come out and we were told after that previous company paid their portion, we still owed $1,100. That's why we were skeptical, but we haven't had any issues like that with American Home Shield. We also have an open claim right now and it seems to be going well. All in all, the process is straightforward and they text us with updates. With the open claim, they let us know that the parts have been delivered.

I've been with American Home Shield for about four years and I've recommended my family members to have their coverage. I usually make a phone call to submit a claim. But this time I asked my mother to make the call because I was on hold for 20 minutes. I could go online and do it, but I just didn't have the time. So I just called my rep and told her that the request was for my mother who was 86 years old and that it had been three weeks and that it was already getting to be in the hundreds. So my rep helped me with it. I've had the same issue at my house when we went from winter to springtime this year. I called the claims person and it was a 20-minute hold. But everything had been fine in both cases, my house and my mother's house.
Heart of Texas AC and Heating came out to the house where my mother was and they were super nice. The AC in there was low on Freon and they put Freon in it. A couple of days later, it still wasn't cooling. So they came out and fixed whatever it was. Both times, They were not there very long and they were very courteous. Now, the AC is working. I had Blizzard Air come out and did mine and they were okay. But there was an electrician that had to do something and they were just back and forth blaming each other for stuff. But I really like Heart of Texas who has done my mother's house. I'm a real estate broker and I'm telling my agents to request them.

The contractor was good. They fixed my sink and they did very well. They were on time and completed the job. But I'm still waiting for a response from the second time they came on another issue which is a hot water tank. I have no hot water. It's leaking. They came out on Friday and they’re not finished yet. American Home Shield is good too. It’s just that the hold time to speak to a representative is really long and I barely understand what some of them are saying. Some of them don’t speak English very well at all. With the waits and the interactions, it seems like it's getting worse now.

I was also told that someone would contact me to schedule an appointment within 24 hours. Airmax then came out for my air conditioning unit and they were early. The guy who came and did the service was excellent. He didn't need much for me, and he took control and did what he needed to do. It was seamless. He even did a follow up, so I’m completely happy. The unit has been perfectly fine since as well. I even had to turn it down because it was too cold.

This is the third time that the water was leaking behind the glass and running down the front of the freezer door, where we put our glass to get filtered water out. One panel is for water, one is for ice and one of them went bad. A technician came and he was good. It took a while for him to get the part though. When he got it, he came back out, put it in and the problem is gone. I've had American Home Shield for a number of years and I like it. It’s worked out good having it because things get fixed and I just have to pay $75.

I've also used American Home Shield when I had a leak on like the water pipe from the street to the house. The guys they sent were great. One of the things I chose American Home Shield for was because of the cost to replace things. I was gonna go with another company because they only charge $60 co-payment. That of AHS is a little high but if you need to get an air conditioner, they're close to $5,000. The other one will only pay out up to $2,000 for it. So, it's give and take.
One of the contractors that American Home Shield sent out sucked. It was Pipeworks. The guy didn't wanna do his work. He came out there making every excuse in the world not to figure it out. Other guys came right out there after him and figured it out. So that showed me that he was lazy and didn't wanna do any work. The girl who recommended Pipeworks was great and passionate about it. She was not satisfied with what they did and she had somebody else come out. I didn't even have to initiate that and that kept me from paying another $100. Baker was great though and I would recommend him to come back out for the next service I ever have.

All of this was done in an hour. So my experience with them was unbelievable. I have a bunch of rental properties and this guy was the best. American Home Shield is really good. There was a miscommunication about what was covered by Home Shield versus what we had to pay out of pocket. We had to reschedule a couple of times to make sure we had the money that they were requesting from us. But they were nice about it. They explained to me what their policy was so there wasn't really an issue. We got that scheduled and AMP Mechanical came out and installed the AC a couple of weeks ago.
The guy forgot his tools at the last site but he came back faster than expected and was finished faster than what he told me. He said to give them a call and they would come back out and fix it if we have any problems within the first 30 days. But it works wonderfully. They said it should take up to 24 hours to get it to the temperature that we wanted in the house and it took less than 12. I'm enjoying Home Shield's service and I'm kind of relieved. I know they have some stuff we have to pay for but it's more convenient having them. It saves us a lot of estimates and Home Shield knows the reputable people that are out here.

The pool pump has been functioning very well.
But I have a claim right now and I can't even get anyone out to my home. I've been lied to and then I was canceled on. I've tried to call Home Shield and it's an hour-and-a-half phone call wait and I can't stay on the phone because I'm working. When I let them know about my issue, usually, someone tries to get another contractor there, but I have to be very specific about it that I don't want this previous contractor out again because they didn't do anything. And it creates a longer wait time for whatever problem we have to be fixed or addressed. The last contractor I had for my air conditioner never showed as well. All the cons I've had are issues with vendors and I feel like there's no support from Home Shield.

This time, it’s going on three years that we've restarted the contract. They offered the roof and that's one reason we continued the policy. But I think we're gonna discontinue it. American Home Shield has put a limit on things now. If your HVAC goes out, they have a limit of $2,000 now. Our contract per year to include the roof is costing us $1,400. But this time, it was very quick and he fixed it right away, so it was great. He is really good. I enjoy him coming out. Always the same guy so I know what to expect. However, Home Shield should have more contractors in the area because it seems like that guy comes from quite a distance to come fix my AC.
The summer months were really hot, and our compressor went out. They had to order a part. We waited two weeks for them to fix it. During that time, we had to use portable ACs because it’s Texas and it’s hot. But other than that, the company is great. It just seems if you have to have any kind of parts ordered, it's a really slow turnaround, but they always fix it. They always make me feel comfortable. We're two women that live in a house ourselves so that’s important to us when men come into our house. The guys that Home Shield have always sent out have been very professional and just do their job. Home Shield saved us a lot of money over the years. It was supposed to be from 1:00 to 5:00, but then they got here at 6:30. I wasn't upset about that, but I was surprised that they stayed that long and worked past 5:00. It was hot as blazes that day as well and they were probably incredibly busy. I didn't expect the technician to come after 5:00 and he did. Bless his heart. I know he was absolutely worn out and he had to work outside. I felt so bad. He was a very nice guy too. He walked my husband through what he did and he got our air conditioner fixed. Everything went great with Reliable Garage Doors. What I noticed if we had a power outage and I had to manually lift the garage door up, it didn't stay up. I had to get my neighbor to hold it up so I could get my car out. The guy said I got a spring that broke. He fixed that and gave me two better car door remotes. He said it's on my plan. He explained to me what the other button was for which I had no instructions on it on my other one. He had his helper in here too and they had their masks on.
I had an issue with my water heater so I called American Home Shield and DMB Plumbing came out. The guy thoroughly took the covers off the water heater, checked it out, and run his little test on it. He said it was okay. They opened up the electrical panel on the fuse box. The circuit breaker was off for the water heater so it kicked it off. He said if that happens again, I need to get the circuit breaker checked. A month later, it happened again. The circuit breaker went off so I called to get an electrician out here. He came and checked the circuit breaker. He said it was strong. He checked in on the water heater, same thing that the plumber did, and said my water was set at boiling. It was making my water heater work too hard. He set the temperature at a decent one. I told him I never saw any dials or anything to check it and he said it's inside that panel. They told me not to open the panel myself because it is a highly charged. I wouldn't have known.
So far, everything's been okay. My problem was why didn't that guy from DMB Plumbing catch it? He was looking at the same panels that that guy did and didn't say one thing. That ticks me off. My toilet needed fixing just last week so I requested a different plumber which I got. He came out and fixed it. But at the time, when I made the call to American Home Shield, I told him about the incident with the water heater. I said if that circuit breaker never goes off again, I should get my $75 service fee back because this might not have happened again if he would've lowered the water temperature or even let me know what the water temperature was. American Home Shield said they don't do that. I said I'm waiting for a month out from when the electrician came out to check the circuit board before I call and raise Cain with American Home Shield about that.
Overall, I feel good about American Home Shield. I'm in an older place that is why I'm having American Home Shield and it'll be going on two years in October that I've had them. They've been very beneficial especially this year. I asked the plumber that came and the toilet just needed the flapper. I probably could've done it, but I've never done it and I don't have a guy here to do it. I asked them how much would that have cost if I didn't have American Home Shield and he answered $175. That saved me 100 bucks.

It's been relatively easy for us to submit a claim. I request the service I need online and pay for the professional to come out. They usually call relatively quick. If not, then I call whatever business it is and schedule the time and they come out and replace or repair it, whichever the case needs. When the heating element on my dryer went out, the guy that they sent out was nice. He even came out and replaced the heating element on a Saturday. It took several days to get the part but that was no fault of his own. That's just current world circumstance. The parts for dryers and washers are a little harder to come by right now. But I appreciated him coming out on a Saturday more than anything. Most companies wouldn't have done that.
My only little thing is if you have a top-end appliance that you paid several thousand dollars for and it goes out and it can't be repaired and it has to be replaced, American Home Shield gives you some good options but they don't exactly replace it with the same appliance. If they will replace it with the same appliance, then you have to pay an additional difference between what they'll cover and what the appliance costs. So sometimes, it can be a little tricky.

But the guy from A-US went ahead and cleared the pipe and he did a good job. He took a compressor and blew out the drain, which the plumber should have done. But they passed it off to the AC guy. As far as American Home Shield, they're a warranty company and there are a lot of bureaucracy involved. They're very hard to get a hold of, and the website’s pretty clunky. American Home Shield gave us a coupon of $150 towards our premiums. For every month we pay premiums, we can use $150 towards our premiums. There was another $75 coupon they gave which we can use for one of the service requests if we want to. They gave it to us on July 2nd. American Home Shield used to charge us $50 or $55 per month in 2019, but they started charging $75 this January. I was planning to open a service request in July because our microwave was not working. When I went in, my husband asked how much were we paying each month. I told him that it was supposed to be $50 or $52. Then he said they were charging us $75. I asked him to go back to the bills and then we found that from January, we had been automatically charged to our credit card $70. It was supposed to be $50. When I called them, they said they sent us an email that they were increasing our premium of the year.
They said that our premium used to be $600 but not it's $800 and that they sent an email about it. This might be true because I get a lot of AHS emails every week. I told them that I didn't go through their emails but this was unfair. Instead of $50, they're charging us $80. While we were talking, one of the ladies said, "Okay, if you want to keep staying with us, I'm going to give you $150 coupon to use towards your premiums and another $75 to use towards your service request." The total together was $220 worth, so my 850 was going to come around 650, which was fine. So I said okay to them.
When I had to create a service request the next day, I told them that I have $75 coupon and asked if I could use it. They said I could use it and that they were applying it. But then they did not apply it. They did not even create the service request. I had to call them the next day and another lady said that our service request was not even created completely. She created it and she said she will be using the coupon. She said she used the coupon, so I did not pay the $75. Then in the postal mail, we got that I have to pay $75. I called them again yesterday and told them that they said they were using the coupon that they offered me so why should I pay? The lady told me that it was taken care on 27th of July. The bill that was sent to us was 19th of July. She told me to not worry about it and to ignore that charges.
The contractors are good. Axis Appliance came recently to fix the microwave. The guy who came was really good. He came with a mask. This company is good. I had good experience. Even the air condition guy who came recently was not a problem at all. He said he didn't have to do much. The unit was a little bit low on Freon and he fixed it very quickly. But last year, one of the guys who came to do something with the leakage under the sink did not do well. I still have the leakage. There is water leaking whenever I turn on the switch of the sink. It messed up the cabinets. I had to put a liner but each time I'm wiping the liner.
When the contractor came, they said it was all not related. They changed the sink faucet but it was too small. It was very inconvenient. I was getting so much back pain, so my husband and I went to Lowe's and bought $150 worth of the new faucet. We called them and said that the faucet they gave us was not enough. It was so low and it was on my way. I cannot put any big pots and containers in the sink. It was hard to argue with them.
American Home Shield doesn't do 100% good job on our complaint because the technician of the company that they're sending is given the instructions to do it with the minimum cost. I had another claim where they have to change the whole door of the microwave. But the tech only changed the handle of the microwave. I told them that the door is so loose and sometimes it's not turning off the light. Then the handle came off within two months. They told us that it was over a month and that I have to create another service request which is another $75 for me.

I lost my air conditioning on Friday night and filed a claim on Saturday. American Home Shield couldn't get the claim to Comfort Pros until Monday. Then they didn't come out till Wednesday. They sent me a tracking number to follow for when the guy would be here. He was here exactly when they said. But that was two weeks ago. Two weeks in and with the humidity in my house, you could drop dead from it. Then we also had a blackout and a tropical storm.
The technician found what was wrong with the air conditioning. Then they had to wait for American Home Shield to authorize it. It usually takes three of four days for American Home Shield to get whatever part I need for whatever appliance. Because of COVID, everything was being held up with the ordering and they couldn't get the parts. I also had American Home Shield send somebody out for my toilet bowl because it was flushing by itself. It needed a rubber gasket and it took a week to get on. The guy went to Home Depot and they were out of it. The plumbing supply was out of it. They had to order that part and wait as well. But Comfort Pros is a really nice company. They're the only company I've ever worked with American Home Shield, and I've been with them for 20 years. American Home Shield has helped me out a lot. They've replaced quite a few things for me like the washing machine and refrigerator. All my friends have them too.

The AC was constantly running all the time. It never stopped. I did a claim to American Home Shield online. The technician from Airamedics came out in like a day or two. It's working good now. American Home Shield online was very quick to respond and to assign me a contractor to come out and assess my situation. The contractor as well was fast enough to come out and schedule me in a timely manner as well and come out when they told me they were gonna come out. That was all we really asked for.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield for my AC issue was super easy. The people from Fleshers Refrigeration were very knowledgeable and willing to help. I guess I messed up and had somebody come out the night prior to look at my unit but they weren't willing to do anything other than try charging me $2,000 or replace my whole unit. Fleshers on the other hand had parts on hand and they replaced what was needed that same day.

The outside external fan would keep going but then the AC that's inside the closet inside of the house kept turning off. I could see the external fan was going but the inside fan, no air was coming out. So the gentleman showed up and he literally fixed it within an hour and a half. He checked it and was super professional and was very nice. He went right up to the fan, tried to turn it on and then he ended up taking it apart and said that it was the motor. He went and took the motor with him to get it replaced. He came back and fixed it and it works perfectly. It works better than it did before. He said that the motor was most likely the original motor that came with the house. So when he replaced the motor, the unit that's inside the closet is now quieter and the output is stronger. So it definitely fixed the problem.
I had a little bit of issue at the beginning with scheduling somebody to come out. The first contractor that AHS assigned to help me wasn't going to be able to come out until four days later. In Sacramento, it easily gets up to 100 and it gets up to 90 degrees inside the house. I have somebody who lives with me who's diabetic and has health conditions. I also have pets and kids inside the house. So I called American Home Shield back and let them know we couldn't have that. Thankfully, they were able to schedule an emergency appointment and somebody showed up an hour later. I was very happy and very thankful that they sent somebody out and was able to get it fixed really fast.

Home Service Corporation came out following a claim we made to American Home Shield for our AC. We weren't getting good airflow to the upstairs of the house. I had the air looked at and serviced. It was handled really well. The technician was professional and he found some areas that some air was leaking out to decrease pressure to the upstairs. It’s working a lot better now.

The water heater erupted and the water was all over everywhere. My husband had towels trying to absorb some of the water so we wouldn't get mold. The hot water tank is in the attic and the water came all down the walls. The contractor came out and they installed a water heater. We have a hot water now. I can now take showers in the master bedroom. In addition to that, we had a leakage from my daughter's bathroom which is over my kitchen. So whenever she used the stall shower, water was coming down from the ceiling. It messed up the ceiling in my kitchen.
After the plumber finished with the water heater because he knew it was gonna be various things that he had to check after the hot water pump, he asked us to turn the water on in the shower. He told us to turn it off because the water came pouring down. The stucco came all down. Once the water dried up, I had to sweep it up because that was how much residue was on the floor in the kitchen. So he took pictures of that. Then there was another spot which was over the sink in the kitchen. You could see spots in there as well and also in the family room because that whole upstairs is over the family room and the kitchen. I'm still waiting for the plumber to get the approval from AHS so he can come back out. But so far, I've had a good experience with AHS because I love the way they took care of everything and the professionalism of priority. They were very sincere. They didn't play around.

The toilet wasn't flushing and AHS sent out Bear Plumbing and Rooter. They were really professional and fast. They changed whatever they needed to change but there's still an issue with it because when the toilet flushes, the water still runs. And sometimes you have to jiggle the handle. Other than that, submitting the claim was easy and overall, AHS is a really good and valuable service.

A valve on the furnace wasn't opening. It would just sit there and it wouldn’t open when trying to ignite it. We called American Home Shield and told their representative that we had a problem with a furnace. He said that Five Star Comfort was coming out the next day within 24 hours. They came out the next morning like they said they would. They were really good. They knew what they were doing and they were prepared. They had the PPE out and had masks on when they came to the house. They came right in and replaced the part. Everything is fine now. It secured the furnace for winter and we didn’t have to worry about when the weather would start to change.

I saw the advertisement on TV for American Home Shield and I called them. I listened to everything they had to say and it sounded like it was a reasonable program to have. So, I signed up with them and I've not had any problems. Then on the 4th of July weekend, while I was doing my laundry, my washer would fill up and wouldn't stop filling up. So, I attempted to call AHS. But because it was a holiday weekend, I figured I wouldn't get through. Then, I went online. They gave me instructions to go online and fill out everything, which I did and the submission process was pretty easy. They got back in touch with me that Tuesday and told me who was going to be coming out to service my washer. And when I contacted the people to give them the information, they called me back and we set up an appointment.
When the tech came out, he looked and said that he needed this particular part. He had to order the part and we had to wait for it. Then, when the part came and he put it in, we tested the washer and it looked like it was going to work. He also did some tests but he tested on small loads. When he left, I decided to do a little laundry and lo and behold, I turned it to a large load then it filled up and it wouldn't stop. So, I sent him a message and told him about it. The next day, he came back out and looked at it. And when he checked it, it did the same thing.
So, he said that he couldn't figure it out. He called the company and told them that he didn't have a clue as to what was wrong because it looked like the sensor was bad, but then he just put the new part in there for the sensor and that didn't fix the problem. Then, I got a message that they would be replacing the washer. Yesterday, someone called me, got the measurements and stuff of the washer, and said that they will be getting in touch with me to let me know what will happen next.

I came home and heard a bearing chatter coming from a fan or the compressor. It's an older AC and the motor capacitor which controls both units was going out and was letting very low voltage go. It was still working but I didn't want it to go out because it's August in Vegas. I called in to American Home Shield, put the order in, and their contractor came out. They were out for about 30 minutes. They went through and made sure the freon was good. They serviced it, replaced the part and it worked.
For the AC, the claims process was great. For my microwave, I don't think I'm ever gonna put a claim for a microwave because I'm about 85 days into trying to get a new one. It took them about 65 days after the replacement order from the technician was put in to finally get it to somebody over here and get one ordered. They delivered me the new microwave and it is bad. Now, I have to go through the third party company to reach back to GE to do a warranty claim on the new bad microwave. That one's been kinda irritating.
I was on hold with American Home Shield over about a 15-day period, total time, 27 hours and 32 minutes and never talked to anybody. It was about 20 days that I had a callback. They gave me an option for callback. They gave me a real estate lady that deals with real estate agents and she was great. She stayed online with me for about an hour and worked, talking to people, and finally come to find out, they had sent me an email. I was told that they were gonna call me. After that, we kind of worked through the process. Now I'm still waiting on my microwave and it sucks because I'm getting ready to sell so I'm trying to get this stuff going.
Calling American Home Shield has always been a problem. Unless you do the claim online, getting ahold of somebody is always a 30 to 40-minute hold time. Sometimes, they give you the option for the callback, but that's intermittent. Sometimes, you'll be on hold for three hours and never have any option or anybody answering, you just hang up. Sometimes, you're on the call for 10 minutes, and then it comes on and like, "If you would like to have a callback, please press one. If not stay on the line." That would be cool because at least I can go do whatever I need to do and they're gonna call me back at any time.
Other than that, I've never had a problem. I'm upset because of my microwave but I can understand it is what it is so I'm not gonna down the company. They've done great things, their prices are good and their contracts cover a lot of different things. They have a lot of different plans that cover different things and meet your needs depending on what you want. I've got two people in my shop to go with American Home Shield.

One of the gears broke in the motor opener of the garage door. I called American Home Shield and the guy from Greene County Garage Doors called me back that day. He came and looked at it, and two days later, it was fixed. He was amazing. He followed all kinds of good protocol for mask and gloves and he was very professional in his work. With American Home Shield, I like the expediency of getting things fixed. We've only had to call them twice, but they took care of both things, the second thing quickly. The first thing was a pain in the neck, but that wasn't their fault. It was the contractor they dealt with. American Home Shield is a really good company and we're pleased.

Original Review: Aug. 7, 2020
I've been with American Home Shield quite a while and the service is fantastic but the last service call was a nightmare. It took me almost a month to find a resolution with these guys. I called in for my refrigerator and they gave me a company called KC. They gave me a number which nobody answered. You could dial and be on call for three, four hours. Finally, they called me back. They gave me an email for another company called Adept. I tried to call, call, call. Finally, they called me and said we got an appointment at so and so time and either take it or leave it. That was the attitude.
They gave me a window between 3:00 and 5:00. Nobody picked up at 5:00. The guy reached us at about 6:00. Either he was socially awkward or high. He sat behind the fridge and I had to move the fridge and the fan fell off. He opened the back and I said it looked like the fan was the problem. The motor was making a weird sound like a tractor. I said it looked like that motor was gone. Even a non-tradesman can tell the sound of a motor. It's that simple. He said, “No, that’s not it.” He switched it off and started again. 40 minutes later, he took the fan and put it back but didn't stick it in. He said “Let’s just switch it on. It will reset everything and everything should be fine.” I said, “But you got the fan in your hand. That motor, you can use a motor unit. It's simple. That's why I called in the first place.” He said, "I'll report it in and we'll have to change the motor.” I had to tell him what problem was. Otherwise, he was just gonna close it and go away. That's when the nightmare started.
One week went by and there was no response from these guys as to what was going on. I phoned and they said whatever nonsense was going on. They said to send them an email and I got an email address. I sent an email. They said they were busy and there was a truck coming in which was loaded with three containers of parts and my part should be somewhere in there.
One week went by again. I emailed again and said, “Either you fix the stuff or tell the warranty company you cannot do it because now it's coming on to two weeks since I reported issue.” They never fixed it. I was working with ice boxes and coolers and getting ice and all nonsense like that. They said, "I've got my guy. I’ve only got one person working and they’re going to look at the thing.”
Another week went by. Now it’s week number three. I email again and there was no response. All of a sudden, I was driving home on a Saturday from work and I got a call from the warranty company to say, “Okay, we want measurements of your opening where your fridge is sitting.” I said, “You've got the refrigerator. You've got the model number. You've taken a picture of the numbers. The model, the serial number, everything is on there. I don't know what else you need from me.” My son was at home and we made a three-way call. My son measured the size of the opening for them.
I was trying to get her to get ahold of the warranty people but nobody at American Home Shield picked up. I was on the call eight o’clock in the morning up to one o’clock. I just sat with my phone. I got two phones. It just kept going on a loop to say, “We’re very busy. Please bear with us.” Normally you have a number to say you are in a waiting queue and to press this number and somebody will call you back. There was none. At the end of the day, I got an e-mail from them to say what they were offering me for my fridge. Either they give me a card and I can go to Home Depot and get a refrigerator, or take the cash and go buy my own refrigerator.
That thing was nowhere near what the stuff was worth. It’s a 25-cubic foot refrigerator. For the price they offered me, there’s no way you can get that on the market. With what they offered me, I could get one of the small bar fridges in the corner. Eventually, I went to one of these places and got one, and that was it. Spending three days, four days, weeks chasing these guys was not working for me. I was wasting my time chasing these people and they wouldn’t even come on the phone. Finally I just got an e-mail to say, “This is what you’re gonna do.” I’m extremely disappointed.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

My heater wasn’t heating the way it should have been. I've had it for 10 years. I called Home Shield and they sent the contractor out. The technician walked in, asked where the heater was and I told him. He opened up something on it, tuned around, came back and said, ‘It’s all okay. No problem. Your ground is 30 amps current on it.” I said, “No. Wait a minute. There’s something wrong.” He said, “No. It’s running that much. You’re okay.” I said, “Look. I know the heater. I know that it’s not working right. There’s something wrong with it.” He did not think there was. I said, “Well, how about checking it farther than what you checked it? ‘Cause I know something’s wrong with it.”
He went back and sure enough, there were a couple of relays that were open and consequently, they were not heating the elements that they were connected to. He wasn’t angry, but he wasn't too pleased because I made him wrong. He went back, fixed the heater, turned around and walked out. He didn’t say anything. That’s not the way a service person works. I was in the service industry for 50 years and I just don’t want them back anymore. On the other hand, the last one, Rescue Your Air, was really good. They did a really good job on what I called them out for. I would take them back anytime.
We call Home Shield and tell them we got a problem and what it is, and they say they will get somebody on it. They rotate between several different service providers and they contact one of them back, and whoever it is contacts us and sets up the time, then comes out and does the service. What happened recently was the first time I've had somebody that Home Shield sent out that provided poor service. The unfortunate part is the company is represented by a service person and the service person is the face of the company. If they do a poor job, then the company shows up as a poor job. But I’ve been with Home Shield for 10 years and I'm very happy with their service. They normally send out a good company like Greenway. They do a good job when they come out. It’s just a matter of the technician that gets the job than the companies themselves.
I have recommended Home Shield to several people. It’s expensive, but less expensive than what could be. I had a dishwasher go bad. Home Shield replaced it with a very good model. I had heater problems and Home Shield did a good job of providing service on the heater. I had a hot water heater burst and flooded my neighbor’s unit. They fixed the water problem over on my side and replaced the unit.

The tech from Rogers Heating & Air came out for my AC claim with Home Shield. It was nice and cool when I got home but then the next morning, I tried to click it off and it wouldn't go off. It kept running. The tech had to come back out. I texted back and forth with him because I was at work and I don't have a direct line. The tech let me know 30 minutes before they got here. They did a really good job. The unit has been working ever since and I'm very happy with it. I’m so grateful.
The only thing is I've been trying to find a licensed electrician to come out because I have a work order for that. Home Shield sent me an email and said that I had to call and make an appointment with some Levi Electric. They gave me the number and I called and left a message with him. He never got back so I called again but the mailbox was full so I texted. I never heard anything. Then, I had to wait online for an hour just to talk to somebody about that and the rep said they didn't send that email. He asked for the work order number so I told him and he said that was a right work order number. I told him the name that was on it and it said I needed to contact the person to make an appointment. I told him I hadn't been able to get ahold of that person and he said that I would have to find my own contractor.
He gave me a list of the people that Home Shield doesn't use and I had to find my own person to come out. I've been calling around and I haven't found one yet. He said once the contractor finds out what the problem is, the electrician or I have to call and tell Home Shield what they found and if they will go ahead and replace it, then Home Shield will reimburse me.

My hot water heater would randomly go out. One day I would have hot water and then it would be fine a few days later or for a few days. It would run out of hot water again and then, it would be fine the next day. So, I had Kintex Plumbing check it. On the first visit, everything was great. We did not have the issue the day the guy came out. I told him we had hot water all day. It was a Wednesday when I called in and that was the day we did not have hot water. He came on Friday and when he got here, he checked everything, and it was fine. So, he left.
My utility bill had gone up $80. When I called FPL, they said that it could be the problem I was experiencing with my hot water heater. They said I should call the company back out and have them take a look at it again. So, I called the contractor back out and they looked at it again. He replaced two components and since then, it has been okay. I had a water softener system replaced at my house and I was telling the water softener guy about the issue with the water heater and he is going to come back sometime next week to check for overloads of iron in the water, to see if that’s causing the hot water heater to malfunction.
I've had two claims with American Home Shield. The first one wasn't exactly the best experience but they ended up getting it fixed. So I'm satisfied now. The last time with the hot water heater, the company, Kintex, was very professional. But when I called to talk to a customer service representative, I was on hold for hours at a time and never got to speak with a live person. Sometimes I would push random buttons in the queue and I would get sales people. You could get them right away but I have never been able to get through to a customer service rep since I started with them.
