American Home Shield sent A+ Appliance regarding the refrigerator. American Home Shield's website is pretty manageable. Sometimes, I do feel a little bit lost because I'm not sure if I'm doing it right or not doing it right. Instead of sending an email saying, “Hey, they got this and that,” someone could confirm even if it’s through chatline and say, “Hey, we did receive your backups. Did you have any questions?” That is just to make sure that we are okay and I did it right. I’m not an online type person.

I had another incident with the dryer, and I didn't like the company that came out. Someone was supposed to be coming out, but they didn't say they were on their way. So I didn't know they were on their way. Most business companies will say, “Hey, we're 10 minutes away,” or “we're 20 minutes away. We're on our way.” They didn't do that. Then, I saw somebody knocking at my door. I looked in the window and I saw this man. There was no hat on, no name, and nothing of the sort. He had a regular car. I came out through my garage, and I had my dog as my little backup. It was just because I didn't know what was going on.

He said, “Hi, I'm here.” “Who are you?” He said, “Well, you sent us out.” My guard was up. He was not really telling me who he was. There was no ID badge. Then he said, “Oh, here goes your paperwork to fix your item in the house.” He said the company's name. And I said, “Well, how am I supposed to know that?” He said, “Well, I'm telling you and I have your paperwork.” I said, “You're gonna have to hold off for a moment. I need to call my company to see what's going on.” So I called AHS. The person who answered said, “Oh, I understand. Let me get to the bottom of it.” So, he called the third party, and the third party was able to verify the guy. They said they were sorry but to me, I felt like that was not good customer service because they had me scared.

When he came inside, he did his work. I checked on him periodically, made sure the doors were locked and then he was gonna leave without even telling me he was done. I came back outside again when I saw him leaving. He said, “Oh, everything's fixed. You're good to go.” When I had a problem with my refrigerator, the contractor texted me and said they were on their way. I liked the notification. The tech came in a regular car but he came out in a uniform. I could see the uniform name with the A+ Appliances. He came out and he said, “Hey, how you doing? I’m here to check your refrigerator.” He said, “My name is this and this.” He had his badge on the side and I could tell that was his name for real. He had his paperwork and his tools. He acknowledged himself. He said, “Is it okay if I come in your house to look at the refrigerator?”

He asked me questions about the refrigerator. He said, “I know the problem. We'll have somebody to come out. We're gonna have to reschedule. The company will call you to get a date that will work for you, okay?” Then he left. The next time, someone notified me that they were coming on the date that I requested. He still came in a regular car, which is fine. But he came out with a uniform. It's a totally different guy. He had his badge on his chest. I could see it. He had his paperwork. I knew exactly who he was because of the uniform. Also, he said, “Hey, is it okay if I come in your house? Would you prefer me putting on some booties or no booties?”

When he came in, he asked me, “Which way would you like me to go in your house?” I showed him the way. He did what he needed to do. He even explained it. So, his interaction was very well-informed. I was informed about the refrigerator. He told me every step that I need to. I asked the question. He told me what was the best result. I like that company. The first company, I didn’t care for it. This one was more safe, alert, and kept me on pack. I will recommend it to anybody because they did a good job. My refrigerator is working beautifully.

I had like a blockage down in the drain to the city. It was overflowing in the basement. I filed a claim to American Home Shield and they sent Butler's Rooter. Their guy went down there and found some toiletry products, and then cleaned them out and unblocked it. He was a good guy. I would definitely use them again.

I sent a claim in with Home Shield for my AC and Mountain Heating & Cooling scheduled for one week, but then somebody called in sick so they had to reschedule. But it went great. The tech came out and he looked around. I told him what the problem was. He pulled out the filter, which I didn't even know was there, and said I don't need the filter because I have the other two. He said it should take care of the problem and it did. Home Shield was very reliable and they were fast.

We had an AC claim to American Home Shield where they sent Kravets out. We needed a new switch. Kravets was able to get the existing switch to work temporarily while they ordered a new switch. They came out a couple of days later and replaced the switch. We are very happy. Doing the claim to American Home Shield was easy. I had never done one before, so I didn't really understand that the company that they would assign me to would call me to make the appointment. I thought I had to call them. So, that was a little disconnect, but that was fine.

When I put in claims to American Home Shield, they get to it when they get the chance. Recently, my plumbing came out and the first plumber they sent had to cut a 3x3 hole in my ceiling to get to the pipe as it was underneath my air conditioning unit. Another contractor came to do the sheetrock and they fixed that. They didn't paint things though as they only replace sheetrock. In the past 20 years I've had American Home Shied, I've only had one issue and that was them not repairing my air conditioner a few years ago. I had to go and get another AC unit. Other than that, their service has been great. I will always tell others that I have American Home Shield.

The fan on my AC wasn't moving when I turned it on and I think the condenser wasn't working properly. I did a claim online and the website was convenient to use for the most part. Liberty Plumbing then came to look at the air conditioning unit and this particular servicer was professional, punctual, and really respectful of the property. Another experience hasn't been as fortunate, but this one was a pleasant working experience. It's the middle of summer and the repair helped us cool down the house.

The Sears tech that came out for my washer was really professional. He did what he had to do. American Home Shield replaced the washer and they had contractors come out and deliver it. They were difficult. They said that my hookup wasn't going to work for that washer and that the drain was too high. I was talking to a friend of mine's husband. He owns a hardware store and he’s hooked up a lot of washers. I showed him a picture of it, so he googled it. Then he also showed me an owner's manual that it was not too high. It was within the clearance. He hooked the drain up for me and it worked fine. Then I had a licensed plumber come out because I don't want any warranty to be void. He said that drain is fine.

However, I put my washer on cold and I take my clothes out and it'd be hot. I couldn't figure that out. My son told me to check the hookups and the people that American Home Shield hired to deliver it and hook it up put across the hot and the cold water. The two workers were fine, but the guy that said that he was a boss was a jerk. He kept asking me personal questions like "Where do you work at?" "You should have your man hook this up." Why don't you got a man?" I told him that I was done answering personal questions and left the room. I felt like he was mad from that point on. I felt sorry for the two other guys that were working for him ‘cause he was breaking their backs too, yelling at them, how to get it up the stairs and they had to wear back brace.

But I love my washer and I'm glad that American Home Shield replaced it. I wasn't expecting it. I just was expecting it to be fixed. I'm glad everything worked out where it's in a proper drain. I did have to pay a plumber to come out but I thought I'd have him look at a couple other issues while he was out there. I recommend American Home Shield to all my friends and my customers. I'm a realtor and I sell it twice a month. That's why I got it 'cause I wanted to see how it works. I just wish that that company had a different guy in charge for the delivery service.

Our AC unit wouldn't turn on or do anything. The American Home Shield handled it well when we called and put a claim in. The AC is working great now. Last month, H and J Heating and Air came out and checked our AC. They told us that what we needed to put another filter in and that the core was a little bit dirty. So we were supposed to get back to Home Shield about it. Also, my dryer stopped working and we had called for someone to come in. The tech came and checked it out. They put the part in for the dryer but is stopped working last month. So someone was supposed to be out today to check my dryer again.

Any homeowner should have a home warranty. We have had American Home Shield when we bought our house in 2006 and we continue to keep them 'cause we're on a tight budget. If something breaks down, I don't have the money to take and pay for it. 56.99 a month is not bad for every month 'cause if an air conditioner goes out, I know it will cost thousands and thousands of dollars. With America Home Shield, whatever needs to be done, they've done it and they've been working ever since great.

When the air conditioner goes, you have to wait several days to get it repaired. But the contractor came out the same day and it went very well. We called sometime in the afternoon and they were here at 5:00. They replaced the capacitor, which is probably a normal repair job for an air conditioning unit. The technician has been here before. He did his job and I can’t complain. We chatted a little bit and he knew exactly what the issue was. He diagnosed it and did his repairs. He was very professional and he didn’t even need to come in the house. He did all those repairs from the outside unit. We also had a hot water heater repaired and the contractor for that was not local. He was probably 45 minutes away so that was a day or two till we got our hot water repaired. But my experience with that was good, too.

It was not even a couple of hours that the Roto-Rooter guy called me and asked, "Can I come at this time?" I said yes and it was done. He was very knowledgeable. He knew what he was doing. He gave me an estimate of how long he thought it would take and it even took shorter. He was an expert and it was great. If I ever have an issue next time, I would definitely ask for him if I'm able to. I've also recommended him to other people in my neighborhood 'cause he was so good.

American Home Shield's service is great. I've had them since we moved into the house and this is our third year that we're living in the house. I like them a lot. However, during COVID, the wait times on the phone are over an hour to speak to a live person. That really bothers me 'cause my time is valuable and I can't afford to do something like that. The other complaint that I have about them is that, for some reason, when I do call in a live person, sometimes they're very hard to understand. I don't know if English is not their first language, but 90% of the time, I can't understand them. It gets very frustrating because of that.

I like having AHS 'cause when we bought the house, we didn't really know it was close to failure or wasn't working too well. We've had a lot of stuff breakdown. For the most part, the claims with AHS have gone pretty well. But the big drawback is you can't pick your own contractor. We had a problem with our range, the exhaust fan wasn't working.

The first contractor didn't do anything. He didn't tell us anything. So we didn't know what was going on. The second contacted me that AHS reassigned it to. 'Cause AHS just picks the contractor sometimes randomly. Eventually, it was repaired but it took three weeks. Because the first one was incompetent and the second one just took a while to get the part. Recently, I submitted a claim for the timer for my pool pump stopped working. The contractors came out to replace it. They had to go get the part but did it the same day. It's fine now.

He came back the third time and said it needed a thermostat. That's been 10 days, still don't have the part, still hasn't been back. I just spoke with a lady this morning from AMTEC and she said the technician was gonna stop by the parts store to get more information. That's ridiculous. I didn't notice it until after it had happened and I had already been charged for two months. Then I got a notice two days ago that it was gonna be raised to $64.99. I tried to call and there were three different people that I talked to. They were all completely inadequate. The first person I talked to did not speak proper English. They have no business being a customer service rep when you can't understand what they are saying. It was very frustrating. He said that I was in the wrong department and transferred me to someone else then I got hung up on. If it's not fixed, I’m gonna be canceling my membership with them. I have two other friends that live next to me that are still paying $45 a month.

American Home Shield has always been good. Out of all of the home warranties that I've had before, they are the best, so I appreciate their service. I also appreciate the timeframe that it takes to get something fixed. I've called in the last three years for at least three different incidences, and in that timeframe, they have always responded very quickly, had the thing checked out, and had it resolved within no more than a three-day window.

During the heatwave here in Texas, it was 106 degrees and 89 at night and then the fan motor on our air conditioning unit burnt out at 1 o'clock in the morning. The very next day, I got onto Home Shield and then put in the claim. By 1 o'clock that same day, Anytime Air came out, figured out the issue, and had it fixed by 3 o'clock in the afternoon. I didn't expect that quick of a response or the fact that they were able to fix it in the timeframe that they did. They didn't have the part in the truck, so they ran back, got it, and then came back and fixed the AC within 35 minutes. They were very professional and everything's been working fine since then. It's cold now because we got the cold front here and I’ve had my air off the last few days, but we had the AC on for another week and a half after that.

Anytime Air is an amazing company. As a matter of fact, I hired them to add an extra couple of runs on my air conditioner and they did a great job with that. We did a conversion in my garage, and I hired them to do that as well. They did that in one full day. It took them less than three hours to do two full runs, re-do all of the runs in the house, make sure they were all open and clean, and make sure that everything was running properly. In two and a half hours, they had the entire house up and running again. I'm very impressed.

The lines of the AC kept freezing over so the house would not cool down. When turning it on and set a temperature, it will go up into the 80's. AHS sent the first guy and they added more gas to the system, which helped for two days or maybe a month, and then it went back to the same problem. The new guy that came out opened up the AC up into the attic and apparently, it was clogged with a lot of stuff. That seemed to have fixed the issue.

If possible, I would like to be able to put in the comments when I put the claim online. I can put what's wrong with the system, but AHS doesn't have an option to request the same people that came last time 'cause I feel they did a good job. Because then, they send a whole other person sometimes and it's like I have to re-familiarize them with the system. In comparison with other services, AHS is on the high end of price but because I've had them for so long and I know they come out and do a good job, I just pay the extra 'cause I know it's gonna get done.

American Home Shield doesn't care if I have a problem. It's hard to get online to talk to people and when I try to resolve my issues online, there was no way I could do that. I simply had to put another request in. I couldn't say that my claim had been denied and that nobody was coming out or nobody told me that. I'd like it to be easier to contact them when you have a problem. I’ve already asked to speak to a supervisor and they refused to let me. I've also been told by a contractor that if they replace a part, American Home Shield quits calling them. So a lot of stuff goes unchecked because they don't want to lose their contract.

One time, my son had a light switch problem and American Home Shield sent two foreign men in a car with no parts. They didn't have anything to fix it and they never came back. But they took his $75. So my son went to Lowe's, got the part, came home, and fixed it. But we're out that $75. At one point, I had three different contracts for three different properties with AHS and I still have two. In the beginning, they were okay, but I'm looking for a new company because their service is terrible.

The first company, AAA Air Conditioning & Heating, couldn't come back for whatever reason and then, they did come back but the air conditioner still wasn't fixed. So, American Home Shield gave me US Air who came over and they did something. It lasted a day and they had to do it again. They came over and sent somebody else. He washed out something and put some Freon, and it worked okay. Some days, the AC will do what it needs to but on other days, it stays hot. I called them and I also sent pictures to the number that they called me from. I showed them that I had the thermostat set at 74 and it was still reading 79. There was no response. But it's not American Home Shield. It's the people that they have contact with. I've had AHS for 30 years and I’ve talked to at least a dozen people about them. They've already joined and has been with American Home Shield themselves.

The AC wasn't cooling the house. We've had three different visits. My lady was there when the first guy came out. She said that he was rather quick with his service in determining what the problem may be. We had to schedule another appointment for the problem to be addressed. We had a different gentleman that came out. I thought that gentleman was rather professional. He seemed to know what he was doing with the repair. But the repair apparently didn't take care of the complete issue because we were still having some problems so another gentleman came out yesterday and my lady was there. She told me that as of right now the AC seems to be working okay. AHS is a fair company and the service is satisfactory. We're on contract for another year.

I had an issue with my sink in the kitchen. When I was submitting my claim to American Home Shield, I spent a long time on hold because I couldn't figure out how to submit online. I want to be able to call in and get things handled instead of having to figure out how to go online, get a work order then wait for somebody to call me back. Still, I stuck with it and things went well. Home Shield sent a tech from Harvey's Plumbing & Drain to handle it and he fixed my problem and left. However, things got backed up in the basement the next day. I called AHS again and at first, the guy they sent was a little short with me. After that though, he was great and he fixed the issue. He told me what was wrong and explained it completely.

I called American Home Shield because there was condensation on the unit. The gentleman that came out was wonderful. He addressed the issue and he fixed it the same day. So everything was great with that. I did a claim on my water line to my house, which they got a plumber out, but nobody told me that it wouldn't be covered under the warranty at the time that I placed it. I wished they would have told me upfront that it wasn't covered. But they still got me hooked up with a fabulous plumbing company.

I also had a claim with an electrician. He fixed the issues but I would never ever, ever hire him to do anything else for me again because he was a jerk. The issue was that whenever I turned on all the units on the stove, it would blow the breaker. The tech said that we needed to replace the breaker. Then he said that if it still blows the breaker after he changed it, then it's not his problem, and that it was something wrong with the oven. He was even more crass than that. It was a professionalism issue. He told me he was coming that day, but he never text me or called me to confirm that it was done. When I got home, I saw that there was a new breaker in the breaker box and went and tested it and everything worked great. I looked the contractor up online and they have nothing but horrible reviews. So I would suggest that American Home Shield to not deal with them anymore.

I'm very happy with what American Home Shield is providing. It is a whole lot better than the other company I had. This other company would schedule somebody and they were 80 miles away. I also had some problems with some claims with that other company, so it was time to make a change. It was very simple and easy to file an online claim with AHS and they gave a quick response. The service was scheduled within 12 hours which was very nice 'cause we couldn't use the dryer until it was fixed. The Sears technician we had was very helpful. In fact, he did one other small little thing on another appliance that we didn't ask him for. But he was very efficient. He was in, did his job and got out. He's a very nice fella. He also had surgical shoes over his shoes and a mask.

American Home Shield sent Breakthrough Pools for my claim and their poor tech was outside in 100-degree heat for several hours. He completely rebuilt my valve to prevent having to buy new pieces. Now, it works perfectly. We have several rental properties and we have kept AHS's coverage on them as well as our primary residence. We used to be with OneGuard though and they were superior. With American Home Shield, we have issues getting claims filed. With Home Shield, though, we have issues getting claims filed. While we've never had an issue with any contractor they have sent out, AHS's services are a little lacking.

There was a pipe that was leaking. I have a well system, so the line that comes out from the well to the foundation wall goes into my main supply line. There was a T there slightly above where it entered and the nipple in-between the threaded pieces that combined the two T's together was cracked and leaking. Dan, the technician from Barker Services, came out and pretty much knew exactly what it was. He and I both had the same idea. He did everything that he was supposed to do and showed me the actual broken nipple. A good portion of the threads were missing, so he said it just failed over time. I asked him if the other ones looked okay from what he saw and he said yes. So, he put the new piece in, threaded it all back together, and everything was A-okay.

I have a different issue with that line, but I had somebody else come out and do something on it. It seemed that right in a similar area, a piece of plastic had broken. So, I tightened the two clamps together and hopefully, that sealed it off. If not, no big deal. It's a $5 part and I'll take care of it. Other than that, everything's working great with the repairs that Barker did. I've had them out a few other times to do other things aside from what was covered under the warranty and they've been fantastic. Dan was very professional, too. Since it is the time of COVID, he wore his mask and was extremely clean. He also cleaned up after himself and explained the situation.

I'm very huge on reviews. So, I just went and looked who had the least amount of complaints of not paying or having issues, and just I compared them. It's like buying a car. I want someone who has the least amount of bad reviews because you're gonna get them, you're gonna make people mad. I know they're gonna be there. But I go further than that. If I need to, I'll read 1,000 reviews before I decide who to use, especially when it's my money. Altogether, Home Shield was the most positive and had the least amount of, "Hey, you're not paying my claims," in their reviews.

My recent went really well. Tech Tonics took care of everything. They got everything for us. The refrigerator was not working at all. It wasn't cooling. They said something was down and it froze up on it. It had to be defrosted, redone and cleaned out. And then on the washing machine, they said something about having to reset the computer on it because it was not spinning at all. They took care of both issues. They wore a mask and were very cautious of being around us and in touching stuff. They didn't bother anything and they cleaned everything well. They sanitized the fridge when they put it all back together. I don't know what I would do without Home Shield. This is my first home that I purchased. I went from renting to buying a $600,000 home. So, you can imagine the stress of that. I got 7,000 square feet. And I just did another claim this morning.

I’ve had American Home Shield since 2000. They're okay. Over the years, they've reduced a lot of the stuff they cover. So, it’s nice. Not as good as it used to be, but it is what it is.

One thing that I had that wasn't covered with the AC was the Freon. It was a $900 out-of-pocket expense. Also, last summer when my AC went out, the whole process took about three months to rectify, back and forth, and I was out of air for three months. It was one of those situations that dealing with the people with the work order, and they would order the part, and the wrong part came. They finally got to the root of the problem. That was isolated. That was the only hiccup I've had in 20 years. That and the cost of the Freon. But other than that, I can’t complain. Everything else has been decent and they're usually prompt.

It's cost-effective as well. Recently, Smart Choice Heating said the fuse on the side had blown and the air conditioning was shut down. They were able to repair it the same day. We had other claims with American Home Shield before this one. We had one that was fine and we had another one that cost $25,000 in damage to the house. It was the same air conditioner. We had a clog in the pan and it had leaked water underneath the air conditioning unit that slid into the closet and had to be repaired.

I'm Las Vegas and with my AC not working, it was hot. I knew I could get an earlier appointment with another company so I tried to do that. Unfortunately, there were some managerial changes that made it so that the person whom I was speaking with at AHS was unable to change the work over to the company I wanted. I had to drop the existing work order and create another one. Then, the company that I wanted to service my equipment had to pick up the dispatch order instead of AHS assigning it to them. It took a simple 10-minute task but then it took 24 to 48 hours to get things done. Other than this incident, I've never had a problem with AHS. They've always been responsive. I'm happy with the contractor I selected. In the end, everything was great.

For my other door, he just took things and screwed them back in place after showing me what the problem was. Still, he came back and did a wonderful job. He was very thorough and put a mask on the whole time. My 30-year-old doors look like new now. Having AHS has been great and I love it. They have provided wonderful service even though when I called in recently, I was on hold for so long that I ended up hanging up. The AC stopped cooling and it was an issue that could not be fixed when it was leaking. Even though the technician put some Freon in there to hold things off until the unit got replaced, it was still leaking out and it froze the evaporator. American Home Shield sent SN Heating & Cooling and I didn't have trouble with them. They were great and amazing but I had an issue with my refrigerator. I had a technician here in July because all of a sudden, something was leaking underneath. It got into a situation where he said that it was not leaking from the front but he didn’t know where it was leaking. We had the fridge pulled out and after he was trying to check things in the front, he pulled out my crisper and checked it to see if it was leaking there. I said that it was not leaking from there and it's not dripping from inside to go on the outside because you would be able to see that flow.

When he went to pop the crisper back in, he was moving it around and trying to get it to get into the slider, and he was very nasty about it. I told him that he had to be a little careful because he would break the sides. I told him to let me put it in and so, I did. But he was not happy about things. He told me to let him decide what was wrong with the refrigerator. The guy was back there and he was taking the back off the bottom of the fridge and I asked about the water down there on the bottom. There was something in there that’s gotta be leaking. He said to let him decide. It was not a problem but he was getting nasty with me.

A refrigerator has a plastic tubing that gets attached with a nut and then, it's the copper tubing that goes to the sink. All of a sudden, he asked us to turn the water on. As he was holding the tube, he said it was leaking. My husband checked that last night because that was one of the first things that we checked and it was not leaking. He said, “Well, it's leaking now.” I said that it wasn’t leaking last night and that there’s got to be something else that’s got to be doing this. I told him that where it was leaking was right at the lug nut. The plastic had a cut in it and it looked like a clean slice. I told him that it was not a problem to fix it then. He said that he couldn’t do it. It was a plumber’s job and that it was not part of the refrigerator. I said that when you buy the refrigerator, that plastic tubing is attached to the refrigerator. The plumber’s job is to attach the copper tubing with a little nut to attach it to this plastic piece.

He still said it was a plumber’s job and I asked him if he was not going to fix it. He said it was not his job. I asked him if he had parts to do it. He told me not to tell him how to do his job. I was just asking him if he didn’t have parts for simple fixes like that. If my husband saw that this was broken and if that was what was leaking, my husband could have fixed that himself. But it wasn't that and something else was leaking somewhere.

We didn't see what he was doing back there. Firstly, my husband didn’t see him slice it because he didn't know what to do with how to find the other thing that was leaking. The tech got argumentative with me. My husband came out from where he was and he said that he would appreciate if he didn't talk to me like that. The tech said that we were trying to just get this resolved and that thing needed a plumber to work on it. My husband said that when we got that refrigerator, that tubing was already attached and he replied that all we got to do was cut it and then put it on the lug nut there. I asked him if he couldn’t do that. I paid American Home Shield a hundred bucks to do this. He said it wasn’t his job and he got argumentative with my husband.

Meanwhile, I was waiting for American Home Shield to come on the phone. I was on the phone with Sears because I didn't like his attitude, the way he was talking to me, and all of a sudden now he’s trying to say it's not his job. I said that I was gonna get Sears on the phone right now and he said he didn’t care who I call. I could call whoever I want. It was starting to get to the point where my husband was saying that it would be best for him to get out of our house and he told me to call the police. This guy was getting to my husband’s face and I thought there was gonna be a physical altercation in my kitchen. The guy grabbed the stuff very nastily. I asked him his name and said Mr. Band Aid. I told him that I didn’t think that was his name and that he didn’t have to have an attitude like that.

Sears came back on the phone with me and I told them what was going on. They apologized and said that they would send another person. I told them that the guy said it was not his job and it was up to a plumber to do the job. They said no and the technician said there was no reason why. I said that I've got American Home Shield on the phone and that if this was an issue last night, I would have had it resolved last night. I didn't need to have a plumber to do this. This guy should do it. We paid them $100. I was on the phone with all afternoon between Sears and American Home Shield. Sears told me that he filled out the paperwork and said there was not a charge. That was because he knew what he did was unprofessional.

Within half an hour, I get an email with the invoice that says there was a charge of 129 but then underneath it, it said there was no fee. I didn't know what that meant because it said “Money Due by the person.” It said 0, because it showed, “Labor 129” but I've already paid $100 to American Home Shield. They paid them where the guy told me that there was no fee and they were not charging me. I've been going back and forth and I’ve called American Home Shield five times now. Every time I call them on the phone, they said that they were gonna get Sears on the phone because the technician never called them to give them any paperwork.

I asked why they still paid Sears if the technician didn’t give them paperwork. They told me that I should probably get the $100 back from Sears. I asked why I should get the $100 back from them. I didn't pay them. I paid American Home Shield and they owe me the $100 as far as I’m concerned. They paid Sears when they shouldn't have especially before the job was even considered complete. They said it was completed and I said it never was. He didn't do anything and there was still a holdup. I ended up getting someone else to fix that.

Every time I'm on the phone, AHS was on the phone with Sears. I'm on hold, waiting for them to come back. And after a good 20 minutes, maybe longer, the phone gets disconnected. They're supposedly talking to Sears. The last person I spoke to last week said that he was still on the phone with Sears. I told him to put me back on hold. After coming back twice, I was still on hold. The rep was trying to talk to Sears and I said that the other person was supposed to do that three weeks ago. The other person before that was supposed to do that weeks ago but I never got a call back from American Home Shield to say that there’s a resolution now.

I was told in the beginning that if the guy doesn't turn in his paperwork, there's a problem there. I have not gotten back my $100 and I disputed on my credit card. I'll let my credit card companies deal with it and dispute it with American Home Shield to get me back my $100 because the service was not done. Sears said they will send someone else out but no. Sears is not walking in my door after that. That guy was very rude and unprofessional. AHS asked if we had someone else do it. I said my husband ended up fixing it. We had to pay money to fix it.

A month and a half ago, I recommended AHS to my sister- in-law who opened up an application with them. But I would not recommend them now. I'm just very disappointed. At this point, AHS needs to call me. When the call gets disconnected when I'm on hold, they do not call back. They have my phone number. I work in Customer Service and whenever a call gets disconnected, we call them back because we have their number.

No one wants to deal with it because they don't know what they're doing at this point. It's very rude that I've had to deal with five different people. I've had phone calls upon phone calls and hours on the phone with them. I've given them a whole month before I turned around and put a dispute in my credit card.

I’m still waiting for a response as to what's going on with the service that happened in July. They were at my house July 17th and still no resolution, which is downright wrong. They’ve got phone calls and records of me calling them. American Home Shield kept telling me that they would call me and get some information from me. They're not calling. They are calling for something totally different.

They ended up having to replace the unit. It's probably the best company that Home Shield has recommended to us. We've had our warranty with them for three years now. I explained that my wife suffers from severe asthma and relies heavily on the the Hepa Filter built into the central heat and a/c system and that the extreme heat and current air conditions only add to her symptoms.

I explained again the situation to this contractor and she informed me that the scheduling department responds in the order of claims received and that "I would receive a call when they call me". That was over 24 hours ago.

It is now 8/26/2020 and I logged into my account with American Home Shield only to find out that my claim is closed and also see that they processed the $100 deductible. I am currently on hold with them for another hour and a half minimum to try and talk to management. This is my second claim with this company. The first was for a torn seal on our clothes washer door. It was 10 days before a technician came out in his car with no parts. He spoke very little English and said that he needed to order the seal and would be back in a couple of weeks to install. In all I believe that it was 27 days from start to finish. I find this to be substandard service. The fact that it is almost impossible to speak to anyone is extremely frustrating, American Home Shield is a joke in my opinion and I will be cancelling my policy with them. I hope that this review with Consumer Affairs will help with preventing this from happening to others like me.

We have two houses covered by American Home Shield. Unfortunately, the companies that they refer you to are underperformers with no sense of urgency. Recently we have one company order the cheapest part for our 6 year old fridge that stopped cooling. After that didn't work, they said it will be another two weeks for the more expensive compressor to be shipped. They clearly didn't want to pay for the compressor the first time. 4 weeks without a fridge in AZ in the summer is unacceptable. When trying to cancel my two accounts, it is impossible to do so. Impossible to get anyone on the phone, and no option to email or request a callback. Dropping these two accounts and buying a new fridge.

If I was able to leave a message or email, somebody would've answered. When I called Home Shield and complained, that's when they sent me a text message and said they were not open till Monday through Friday. But once I got in contact with the people, I got an appointment immediately. The problem was a belt on the dryer and the tech fixed it.

The washer was leaking from the back pipe and the contractor came out. It was on a Friday and they had to order a part. They came back on Wednesday. It took four working days for the part to come in but I was 100% happy with that time frame. They had masks, gloves and booties on their feet. AHS should hire Bert's Appliance Repair permanently. They were fantastic. I’ve referred them to a friend of mine that needed her icemaker fixed in a refrigerator and she has already used them. I’ve been with AHS for two years and that was the first time I called them. Other than having to wait an hour and 40 minutes on their 1-800 number, I’m 99% on their service. I gave their name and number to a friend of mine and she gave her niece and his new husband a one-year subscription to AHS.

My air conditioner was not working so I entered a claim with American Home Shield. The initial call was on the 4th or the 5th. A gentleman came out and he replaced the capacitors. They were sort of working again, but the unit wasn't blowing cold. I then put in another request on the same claim. A gentleman came out and he put gauges on at this time. He said the Freon was low. He was gonna check for a leak somehow but did not offer to refill the unit or make it cold. He said somebody would get back to me. I called again because nobody got back to me and this was on Wednesday. I called again and still, nobody has gotten back to me. I still don't have an AC working. I have a window unit but I have central air for a reason. Needless to say, I'm quite unhappy. At this point, I really don't want anybody to get back to me. I kind of want my money back and I'll move on. I'm also kind of wanting to cancel my American Home Shield warranty.

We had a plumbing issue. I had a shower faucet, that's in the guts of the thing. There was a washer that needed to be replaced. The gentleman was trying to keep me up to speed on when they'd get here. The technician that came in was masked up. He did everything he needed to do right there. We take that pretty seriously here so that was nice to see. It was all good.

What I tell people about American Home Shield is it's not like calling a 24-hour plumber. You gotta wait a little longer than you would like to on occasion. But, that's just the nature of the business. I am waiting since I've had that plumbing issue, I've had another claim filed and I gotta have to follow up with that. I had a glass on the front of my oven shattered. The contractor was out here last week to order the part but I haven't heard back from him yet. But, I'm pleased with American Home Shield. I've been doing business with them for five years and I really don't have any complaints.

My furnace was making an unbalanced washing machine sound and I made a claim to American Home Shield. When I pulled up the app on the phone, it wasn't air conditioning because it was coming from the furnace itself. The air conditioner is the thing outside. I was going to select Furnace but there was nothing under Furnace for sound, so I selected Other. They dispatched the contractor and the guy found it weird that we have no heat but it's summer. So, they called me up and I told them what was going on. He said that made more sense. We didn't know what to select.

The first guy came out and he went into the blower fan area and was looking for any obstructions or debris or paper or maybe the filter was rubbing. He said he was checking everything and said he couldn't find anything out of the ordinary that was causing it. We couldn't duplicate the noise at the time and he apologized. He said that if it does happen, to call back and they'll try to do their best to make it right. It happened again and I waited and it happened again. Then I went ahead and placed the call and they dispatched a different technician. He was able to go in there and he said he was visibly able to see a wobble in the fan. He had to call in and get permission, and he replaced the blower unit. We haven't had the issue since.

The two gentlemen from Warhold Mechanicals who came out were great. If I didn't understand a term, they tried to tell me in layman's terms what was going on. They're welcome back into my house whenever they want. If you know your furnace is running, there's something wrong. You shouldn't hear it and it shouldn't rumble like there's a train or thunder. The technician said that if we did not call it in, it would've been a catastrophic failure. It would've eventually rumbled and blew itself apart because that thing spins it so fast. They were able to preventatively stop that from happening because I called it in as a noise. American Home Shield isn't cheap but neither are the repairs you get if you have one. You're taking the chance but if you use it once, you broke even. If you have to use it twice, you're ahead of the game.

Our very first claim was on the AC. I went through the website to file it and paid the money then AHS got back to us. It was on a weekend and the contractor got back to us and told us they'd get out as soon as they could on Monday. Then the guy who came out thought he got it working again. But now, we have a leak that's even going into our master bedroom closet that backs up to the garage and the air conditioner. We tried to get him back or at least tell him what he thought was going on. He told my husband to text him with what was going on, he did, and we haven't heard a word. That's been Thursday or Friday of last week. We're not so happy with it, but that's why it was on my list to call American Home Shield.

It was an emergency. We were over triple digits. We're senior citizens and we have one option, we have to wait till Monday. That's kinda scary. I guess AHS would prefer that we paid another $75 even if this was something that was from the first visit. If it's the same issue, then it should be covered. But if it's not the same issue, then we'd have to go through it again. If I can't get this guy to contact us back just to find out what he thinks, then I don't wanna use them again.

He came out a couple weeks ago but we haven't heard anything from American Home Shield whether or not we need a new door or were they able to find the door. We're not real happy about that.

I have not reached out to American Home Shield because it takes me 50 minutes on hold to get through to them which is unacceptable to me. I don't have the time to wait. The guy from #1 Garage Door who came out did a couple of adjustment repairs. He told me that there's a board in there that's on backorder and if I continued to have problems, all I had to do was call back up and let them know he came out and repaired and what he had done. Then they would deal with it. The garage door is opening and closing, which is what it wouldn't do before. Sometimes, it would open. Sometimes, it wouldn't. But the thing is not completely fixed. It's making really loud noises it never made before.

The guy knew what he was doing. He got here and went straight to the issue and made some adjustments. He explained to me what the problem was and what part was needed. He was really professional on explaining everything. I kinda kept my distance just to not make him feel uncomfortable. He had his mask on and all that.

I feel good about Home Shield. When I purchased my house, we bought the insurance. When I spoke to the rep, I made her aware of several things that I know I want to be covered one being all my pool equipment, my pool pump and my pool light. About two weeks before I had garage door issues, I had a problem with my pool light. We were swimming when my pool light just went out. I'm an electrician by trade. I tested the transformer and so forth. Everything was putting out. Apparently, something shorted out in the light.

When I called Home Shield to make the service call, I was informed that the pool light is not covered. The rep explained that to me really good. That kind of upset me a little bit because the main reason I got the insurance is to cover things that I didn't wanna have to come out of pocket if something does break to repair and so forth. But that's not a deal breaker. I'm still with Home Shield.

We're very concerned about having anybody. In the last two or three months, we couldn't have anyone in. We felt compromised with the COVID. Finally, we got an okay from the doctor to call American Home Shield.

The Crispy Air and Heating tech came with his booties and his mask. It was excellent. We didn't have our air conditioner working right and that got fixed. Also, I was so tired without my refrigerator so someone came to fix that. A board had to be put into our Monogram refrigerator. When the other part comes in, the contractor will come out. I wish we wouldn't have had to wait two weeks for the part. That was bad for a fridge. If the item is important for survival then it would be better if they could get the part quicker.

There's also something wrong with our oven. The tech has to put something in the back of the stove but he didn' have the part. He would have liked to have done it at the same time though. A long time ago, people also came to fix the dishwasher. The dishwasher works but it doesn't get the dishes dry. They were not good and they came out three or four times. But the one that came in this last week was wonderful.

The heater has two knobs that set the temperature, one for the spa and one for the pool. Normally, should we put it on spa, when the spa turns on, the heater should come on or it's gotta be controlled with the remote. But neither of those are working. I have to turn on the pool knob all the way up so that when the system turns on, when the pump runs, then it starts. And if I wanted turn on the spa heater, I have to go all the way to the equipment, put that thing in that mode, come back, and then go all the way there and turn it off. I lost a lot of water and it was running the whole time for the past few weeks because we didn't notice it was turned on. It was horrible.

Penguin Pool came and they said American Home Shield wouldn't replace the heater. I didn't intend to replace it but it is not working as it's intended to be. Overall, I'm happy with Home Shield. I just don't know if it’s the service provider issue or them not covering this. I was planning on calling and asking why it wasn't fixed when the contractor came. Other than that, submitting claims is not too bad. Sometimes, they get it wrong. I give them problem A and problem B and when the contractor comes, they only have problem B listed. I had 10 calls in the last four years and that happened three times.

This home that we moved into had a lot of issues and American Home Shield has been very good with taking care of that. I am very thankful for them and I do recommend them. We had a water heater leak and the contractor came out to check it, came back and replaced it. It kinda rusted out on the top. They told me a whole bunch of things about that water heater. They said the vent from the water heater was also leaking. They had taken the pipe and put it together because there was such a long area to go from the water heater to the outside. That had to be done by Reliable Mechanical Services. Something had to be done to keep the carbon monoxide from coming into the house. They wore their mask and I'm very happy with them.

The only problem with American Shield is that we waited on the phone for hours. We have had over two hours. We just let that thing run until somebody answered. That’s the big issue. I get so angry and I don't wanna take it out on the person answering the phone but it's like, “Where are you people?” I'm unsatisfied with the length of time it gets to get through but I'm very satisfied when they answer. They are professional and good about scheduling. They call the people right away and the people call us back as soon as they can get to us which is usually very quickly. American Home Shield initially sent out a different company, Foxcroft, and their tech lied to me. He didn't even open up the air conditioner and he said I needed the whole thing replaced. So, I called AHS and had them send a second opinion from a different company. Frog Pro, a different company, came out and fixed my issue on the AC. It was a blown capacitor inside the unit outside and it was an easy fix once it got figured out. He had it done in 45 minutes. It was a simple and obvious problem. The capacitor itself showed damage on the outside, so you don't have to hook anything up to it. You open up the air conditioning and it’s right there.

I’ve been with American Home Shield just since January and when submitting claims, I like talking to somebody over the phone. I’ve had no difficulties at all. But I hope that AHS took my recommendation to heart, that the company they contracted was not doing their job professionally. Also, they said they were gonna call me back once they heard back from Frog Pro after the technician has submitted his report. I paid for both claims and I wanted them to refund me my money from the original call where the first service tech lied to me. AHS never got back to me and I just gave up. It's not worth it.

They made sure everything was connected, that I didn't have any gaps and holes in it, and they didn't find anything wrong that could cause what I was experiencing. But they worked for about an hour and a half to two hours, checking all the ducts throughout the house. They were very good and everything is working fine so far. They left things the way they were supposed to be.

The other group that previously came out for the AC was also okay, but they were trying to sell me an air conditioner because my unit is 20 years old. They fixed the part though and I told them that if I decided to buy an AC, I would give them a call. All in all, I would recommend AHS to others as it was recommended to me by some other people that I work with that live in the Sienna Plantation area. I had a claim for my microwave and the tech said that they have to replace it. I went to the claim to pick out the microwave. All the ones that were free were not available and the ones in the $60 tier are available. I chose four of them and it charged me $61 for each one and none of them were available. My microwave still hasn't been replaced.

The AC units were not cooling and there was some issues with some of their refrigerant levels. We asked AHS for a service and they have been responsive with everything. The vendor, A-US Air Conditioning of Texas, had a little bit of trouble scheduling the appointments but ultimately, they serviced both units to the degree that they're working now. The claims process has been easy and we've been pretty pleased. Other than that, we had to have the technicians come out a couple of times and one of the installations that they did was for a compressor. When they rewired the compressor unit, they did so incorrectly, so we needed another technician to come out and undo what the previous technician had done.

We were having issues with our hot water heater. I went to American Home Shield's online portal to make a service request. The website was simple and there was ease of use. They said the contractor would be reaching out within 24 or 48 hours. Nutex Mechanical was assigned to us and their tech was good. He was straight to the point. It was a simple and easy fix. Since then, the hot water heater has been performing up to par and the way it should be.

The only thing was it cost $75 for the contractor to come look at stuff and most of the stuff they come look at isn't under warranty or within the contract. It was kind of a waste of money. American Home Shield was a part of my home purchase but once the warranty is up, it would be simpler and easier to call someone local that is familiar with the area and does free estimates and free consultations instead of paying $75 for someone that is outside of my area.

The technician from Rescue Your Air called and let me know he was on his way. He replaced my thermostat and checked everything while he was here. Also, he had his mask on. Everything was excellent. I don't have any problems with American Home Shield at all but I have one with Greenway. It started off with my drain stopped up. The man came out and unstopped it. After he did that, I noticed water started running from under my house. He had jarred some pipes loose under there. They didn't wanna own up that it was them.

The guy who came out said this, this, and this had to be done, and I would have to pay out of pocket money because he had to cut a hole in my bathroom wall to get to the pipe. I found out that access is covered under American Home Shield. The man couldn't do it that day because it was gonna require more time, so they had to reschedule me. The guy got busy and he couldn't make it to my appointment. It took me almost a month to get the leak resolved under my house. They had nets up in my house.

American Home Shield knew about it and they said that they were gonna ask them to get someone that's a senior serviceman to come out here and check it. The contractor came out here about four times before it got resolved. It took three weeks of them trying to just schedule somebody to get here. They were all saying that they would get here from 8:00 to 12:00 or 12:00 to 5:00. So, I usually ended up in 12:00 to 5:00, which was my whole day because there was not too much I could do between 8:00 and 12:00. The man told me that due to the pandemic, he had to hire a lot of new servicemen because a lot of their old ones were in quarantine. So, they were using new people.

The center drum thing that spins around in the washer wasn’t spinning. It also got stuck in the rinse cycle and the water was barely trickling out in the rinse cycle. Always There Appliance Repair came out pretty quickly. The contractor was very good. He diagnosed the problem quickly and ordered the parts, and that was it. We had to wait. American Home Shield got the parts in a little less than two weeks. Luckily, we still got to use the washer since it was still spinning. We just had to manually move it to spin. So, we were okay with it. Everything worked perfectly. The washer is washing like a trooper now. We've been with Home Shield for 20 years. We were very happy with the service.

It's pretty misleading that AHS doesn't cover everything. I was irritated about that. A home warranty is a home warranty. But I don't think you need to be a lawyer to have to sign up for a home warranty contract. First thing they do is point you to the fine print that they don't tell you about when you're signing up. I'll be looking for somebody else as far as home warranty goes, but Cote's did a great job. The first time Cote's came out, I had a 100 and something dollar bill and then the second time they came out, I had an 800 and something dollar bill, so that's not really a home warranty if I'm still having to pay. They replaced the coil, and there were additional parts required that were not covered. Cote's Mechanical was professional.

I submitted a claim online with AHS for the repair of the garbage disposal. The website was very streamlined and it was easy to submit the service request. Home Choice Services came out and they were very professional. They responded in a timely fashion and the content was quickly addressed. However, they felt that American Home Shield will not cover it so we ended up having to pay out of pocket. But while it would be considered a non wear and tear issue, that it was a small piece of plastic, there were no signs of negligence that resulted in it. It was just a small part of the garbage disposal itself that might have come loose and damaged the blade. But overall, that was a pretty pleasant experience from the contractor that came in and how quickly they responded.

I also submitted a request for the AC that was ultimately issued to World Class AC and that went pretty terrible overall. The request that was submitted was, and I was very clear that, I have small children some of which are under the age of three years old and that it could potentially become a suffocation issue for them. The ticket didn't get expedited the first time I called. I did not get a call from a contractor within the first 24 hours.

Then, once I finally got a call from a contractor, the contractor said he couldn't come out until late that week or the next week. I called and I couldn't get the ticket reissued on the same day because it was already under service through the website. My average wait time per call was about 90 minutes to try to get these things addressed. It was about three calls that I had to follow up before I finally got it reissued to a service technician. I had to spend five hours of my personal time just to get something done that should've been done correctly the first time.

The contractor came out to do the estimate and the service technicians were very professional. They brought their mask and quickly gave an accurate assessment of what was going on. But the service required approval and they tried calling twice and did not get a reply that same day. They deferred it until the very next day. When I called up to follow up on them to figure out where it was 24 hours later, I tried to call them twice. The first time, they hung up on me because they said that they have other people that they have to service. I called back and they said that me calling back 10 minutes after they just got off the phone with me was annoying. I ended up paying this out of my pocket because of this terrible experience and I had a completely different service technician.

It's kinda hit-or-miss with AHS. It's very heavily dependent on the contractors and whether or not they have structures in place to be able to handle some of the inefficiencies of being able to work through customer service. That's a really big problem. From the American Home Shield side of it, the biggest issue is having to call these things in and having an hour to two-hour wait time every single time. That makes things difficult for both contractors and customers.

We didn't have air for three days and it was extremely hot. On other occasions and other events, American Home Shield has been very prompt, but this time was a total fiasco. Initially, I had told American Home Shield my AC was coming down. Three hours later, I hadn't heard from anybody and my AC was still coming down a little bit at a time. I understand it was busy and they were trying to get somebody out here, but they didn't send anybody till the very end of the day.

I called back to Greenway and they said they never got a dispatch. Someone called me on his cell phone to tell me he was here, so I called him back on that phone. I said, “Look, nobody's still here. What am I supposed to do?” He goes, “You have to call in dispatch. I have to okay it with American Home Shield.” I felt good when the technician was here because what he said was it would work and everything would be fine. That's not what happened though. By the time Greenway got here, half my AC was down. They then couldn't do anything because a pipe was stopped up. I had to wait till the next day to get a plumber. I was told that an emergency plumber would be sent that night, but it never happened.

The next day, I called American Home Shield as they were reaching out to me on the other line to find out when a plumber was coming. They set one up and it was late in the evening before DrainGo got here, but they were fabulous and absolutely top-notch. They corrected the problem within 30 minutes, and we had air. They explained stuff to us too. Still, we are probably gonna make a change or cancel ‘cause I feel like the warranty is not working for us. We paid $1,200 a year plus $100 every visit. We’d only use them about four times a year and that could change, but I feel for the money that we're spending, we could just pay somebody out of our pocket.

So, I had to go through security then I was redirected to another department. It wasn't a cut and dried process. My claim is still being processed because the repair company charged me for a duct modification that was not required. So, I'm waiting for the refund but American Home Shield did a great job in the way they handled the initial service. They responded quickly. It's just that this prepaid issue has clouded the whole process. For people considering a home warranty, they should make sure that they get everything that they think they need to have coverage included. I did that. One thing I like about American Home Shield is they cover rust and that was what coincidentally happened to my AC. The AC coil had rusted out.

Five Seasons were sent out as a senior technician because after the initial repair of the air conditioner, I was still seeing water. Since AHS has a rule that if you have somebody out twice, you wanna switch to a different team. I didn't ask for a different team, they sent them out to have a check. He could not find anything else wrong after he did that, and so we went into a monitor mode. He asked me to monitor it for a week and see if it did it again. After that, they just went ahead and closed the claim because it wasn't still doing it after his evaluation. It's one of those strange things. He was not 100% sure. It didn't actively feel like he fixed something, but the act of taking it apart, checking it, putting it back together, seemed to have helped for the last part.

The original problem was with the Freon. They fixed that. The second problem was something else. The first time he came out, it turned out there was also a parallel problem with the water heater. So, that created a separate claim, which caused us to think, "Okay, air conditioning is not an issue." So, I don't know how that works, but then he just went away that time without having to really check anything. He was very quick and very knowledgeable. I liked them. I liked the first guy too. There was nothing wrong with Jordan's either. He also did a nice service. So, most of these companies, AHS should keep on their list 'cause they're both very good. Some of the companies are really bad about, "Oh, I won't work on a Linux or I won't work on this." These guys seemed pretty flexible in terms of what systems and literally pretty efficient and quick. Both Jordan's and Five Seasons did a great job.

It's been a pretty good experience with American Home Shield. I thought when I first got this, it might be more like car warranties where they just try to secretly deny everything with some piece of data on page 59. AHS has definitely been much easier to work with, with this kind of a different related claim, with the one exception that when you have to do it or you don't have built-in contractors, you have to get them yourself.

It's an interesting little wrinkle with that system, that you obtain an estimate, but then the homeowner cannot provide that estimate to American Home Shield. They still want these contractors that are not used to working with them to call in. Then there are limitations in the policy that wasn't clear. So, it was on a different claim related to my pool pump. It was a little bit more frustrating. But once I understood those little wrinkles, I get it. But in general, it's been quite easy to work with AHS, other than the very long call queues. I'm on hold one time for almost two hours trying to get into their system. I know it's a busy season and I know maybe people, since they're home, with the pandemic, are finding more things wrong with their homes that they're not used to.

When the system kicks in and gives me the callback, that's much nicer 'cause then I can go off and do something for two hours and wait to get called back. But occasionally, it doesn't do that, so I'm literally sitting on hold for a very long time. So, that's about the major negative item in general. Particularly, on standard type stuff, like the air conditioning and the water heater, it was quite easy to work with AHS. I definitely have already mentioned that to somebody else, "AHS is a good company to have a home warranty with."

I had a pool equipment claim with Home Shield and it was when all this COVID stuff was starting. The contractor came out and they replaced the part, but they were supposed to come out again to test the heater part of the Jacuzzi. The water level was a little low that day. I called Home Shield and they asked to call the company directly to schedule them to come out because they were still within the time. But the company's office was closed. All I could do was submit an online request which was not answered. The heater part was not taken care of. But my latest claim was for the refrigerator and it's done. The only thing lacking with Home Shield is the follow-up with the appointments. I know I can call and request service and they will assign that to a company. But if there was a liaison, someone that could help assist connect the contractor with the consumer, that would be helpful.

It's been very easy with AHS. My washing machine won't start and the tech from Professional Appliance Repair looked at it and said that he was gonna have to order a part. He said it could take 7 to 10 days and that I would hear back from them in the procurement. I'm still waiting on parts. I've had a dishwasher claim, too. It was a very small issue and the tech was in and out in two minutes. He fixed it.

It was easy to file a claim with AHS 'cause in their system, I could do a follow-up and a “Not fixed, send somebody back out,” although I could only do those on the computer and not on the mobile version. I never try to call them 'cause it ain't gonna work. It's easy to dial. It's just that I can't get anybody on the phone for hours. When I say hours, if just googling reviews for American Home Shield, I see people on hold for 13 hours or 14 hours. I've never talked to anybody in that company.

I had an AC issue and the second contractor Cote's Mechanical fixed the piece that was in there. This claim cost me more money 'cause it would not let the AHS system shut down. I don't know how the two individuals work together when they close out tickets, but they closed out the original repair ticket, so I had to pay another $100 to get the contractor to come back out. Luckily, this last time was the follow-up to that time, so I just caught it in the nick of time to get it to not cost me again. Nonetheless, I like the ease of getting people out once I file a claim online.

Filing the claim was very easy. The only thing was we had to wait a long time 'cause it was during a heatwave. Everybody was having issues with their air conditioning so it did take a really long time for the contractor to come out. We waited maybe a good seven days. But we're extremely happy with American Home Shield.

It's a forever wait if you try to get American Home Shield on the phone. But once I've learned how to submit claims online, it's extremely simple. Some of their contractors were great and some of them were terrible. The good people are probably the more expensive people, so Home Shield gets the bottom people. But I'm in a small town and there's not a lot available here so I'm just happy that somebody comes out to fix my issues. Everybody should have a service like this.

The guy from BlueTech Plumbing was extremely nice and he asked me to give him a good score. He came on a Sunday. He snaked the sink and then the next day, the toilet overflooded. He said that it was not him. But I talked to other people and they said that could happen. I don't wanna fight with anyone. I always get ran over 'cause I'm a girl, so I'm just paying out of pocket and getting someone else to come fix it.

American Home Shield assigned my pool repair claim to Expert Pools. It was after 5:00 on a Friday and I thought I was not gonna hear from anybody till Monday. But on Sunday afternoon, the person dealing with scheduling called me and told me that they wanna go at it. Everything kinda lined up for their scheduling and asked me if it would be okay for them to come out tomorrow. So they came out on Monday afternoon. Before I got here by 2:00, they were here working on it.

I've also done a claim through American Home Shield recently when we had a compressor go out in one of the air conditioners. The person called me back and it was gonna be a few days before they even got out there. Once they got out there, it was another eight or nine business days before they got the parts. I was out of one of my air conditioners for about a month. It So that was my expectation with this pool situation.

The owner of the Expert Pools lives in the same town that I live in. So instead of sending one of his guys out, he came over himself. He found the issue and told that he carried the part on his truck all the time. He replaced it and got it all fixed up. He even took time to ask me if I needed any other information about the pump and pool system because he knew that I was new to owning it. He wrote his number on the receipt and told me that I could reach out to him if I have any questions. He also wrote down some names of some products he recommended as far as different chemicals to use in the pool. He educated me on proper maintenance and taking care of the pool equipment so that I would avoid having more issues in the future, which was great. I was extremely impressed with the guy.

I have Choice Home Warranty on the house I'm currently residing in. I had an air conditioning issue here and I mistakenly called Home Shield and filed an air conditioning claim. Once I realized what I did when I got the text from them saying that they were coming out for the repair of my air conditioner, I had American Home Shield cancel that one out for me. They never even charged me the $75 fee. American Home Shield would have covered the issue that I had but Choice Home Warranty did not. There was also a plumbing issue that they did not cover but it would have been covered according to the contract I've read with American Home Shield. I'm looking at cancelling Choice Home Warranty here and move it to American Home Shield to keep this one covered till we get around to selling it in the next five months. I have had a terrible experience with Choice Home Warranty and I like the American Home Shield warranty people.

The plumber they sent said it wasn't his problem to handle either. The contractors wouldn't fix the faucet for me and that issue ended up costing me 600 bucks. So, I was a little disappointed.

More recently, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my ice maker. The outside handle that I press to make ice come out was broken. AHS sent AG Appliance Repair to handle it. The tech who came had a mask on and wore booties. He fixed my problem within half an hour. This time, the contractors were able to fix my issue and I'm happy about that.

CNJ Services came for the toilet and the kitchen faucet. The rep had to come out on two different occasions because we couldn't get the water turned off and he was great about it. It didn't cause any problems and the issue is totally resolved. Also, he had a mask on when he came. For the most part, American Home Shield is good. The only thing I have a concern with is that they did had one issue that they would not take care of because it was not an actual leak. I have a sink trap that has a connecting line from air conditioning condensation that then sends to that sink trap. We were having problems with it and the air conditioning people said that they would not touch it unless the sink trap was fixed because it was a lot of corrosion and it was a mess. As soon as the plumber touched it, that pipe crumbled in his hand. American Home Shield wouldn’t cover it and I contracted CNJ directly. They did it for me.

The air conditioning people came out yesterday to deal with the clogged condensation line and then they’re gonna replace some of the condensation catch area. It's additional work that they were convinced that American Home Shield wouldn’t cover. But AHS already said they're covering it so the air conditioning people are gonna do some more work. I’m very happy now because after the first one, I thought that they would deny this one as well.

Recently, J&J Mechanical came out for my dishwasher and my refrigerator. I filed the claim through the website and it was very easy to navigate. It stated from there that they had up until 48 hours to contact me and that happened. They were able to fix the refrigerator. The first time they came out, they found that the seals on the front of the dishwasher were bad. They came out a second time and replaced the seal. We thought it was fixed. They left and I went to start a cycle on the dishwasher and it was leaking all over the floor again. They came out again and stated that it was a solenoid underneath. They came out again today and they said it's not just the solenoid, it's the seals going around the solenoid. They have to order them and they'll have to come out for a fourth time.

I don't like the website of AHS. I think that you should talk to a customer service person because you can explain it a little bit more. Because it doesn't always fit exactly what you're talking about in the website. It limits you on how you can explain what it is you want. Because if someone has two bathrooms, you can explain it to the customer service, because you can be having the same issue in the other bathroom too. But to call it in one time, and then to call it in again, to me, that doesn’t make sense. So, when you talk to somebody personally, then you could explain what’s going on. I don’t really care for the website. But as far as the contractors, they've done what I needed once they got here. But the contractors themselves sometimes don’t get back to me immediately. Sometimes, I’ve had to call them. But our experience with AHS has been good. It serves the purpose.

We are told that having insurance/warranties is a good idea although it may not seem so until you use it. I subscribe to this philosophy most of the time. AHS will no longer be one of the companies I can trust to execute everything they promise in an acceptable manner. I have had this service for the last three years and had occasion to use it three times. AHS has met my expectations one time of the three and it happened to be the first time only. This last occasion was the one that broke my camel's back...

A/C went out. I called AHS. They responded in a timely manner and requested an appointment in my behalf. It was Friday, 2pm. Temp in Tex was 100. No air conditioning. Received email message stating the appointment was requested and the repair company would contact me to set a time and date. Saturday afternoon, still no A/C, temp pushing 100 degrees. "Top tier" contractor reached me via text that they would be by to see me on MONDAY, 48 hours more to wait. I spoke with AHS. When I requested they try to find someone that may be able to come sooner than MONDAY, I was told that they could not do that because the contractor they had schedule met their parameters for responding to a service request... AHS suggested that maybe "I" could reach out to the contractor and request expedited service and I pay the difference... That did not sit too well.

Sunday was a 100 degree day as well, humidity in the home was creeping into the 60% area. As expected the contractor appeared at my door at 3:30 pm on Monday afternoon (no way anything was going to be fixed at that hour..) The technician was probably the best part of this whole experience. He was forthcoming with information on the problem, courteous and accommodating as far as agreeing to follow up with a date when the parts and service would resume. Tuesday a.m., I have still not received word from the contractor nor AHS about when the part will be in and much less when the repair will be scheduled. 96 hours and counting... It's good that one looks to have insurance/warranties but it's the bad execution that disappoints us.

After 4-5 repairpersons were sent to our house to attempt to repair and those attempts failed (even though some worked for a week or two) we were told by AHS that yet another repair person would need to come out "only to diagnose, and if he confirms is irrepairable, we will replace your refrigerator." The repair person did confirm it was not repairable -- and keeps the food at only about 50-ish degrees--not cold enough to be safe. Not only did AHS not replace it, they said "we'll have to send out a person to give a 2nd opinion. We have to confirm that the tech who said it cannot be fixed is telling the truth." WHAT??? We haven't had a reliable way to consistently keep our food cold in months. This is a company with whom we will never again do business.

They looked at all the problems I had. They were fast, efficient, friendly, and obeyed COVID rules so it was good. They came to the door and automatically had their masks on which I appreciated because some people would come to the door and if you're wearing a mask, then they put one on.

Professional Plumbing did their work and they weren't right in my face. One guy was more experienced than the other one who was being trained. But they were constantly communicating with each other. One person would check so that was really good. It turned out that the serious problem I thought I had, I didn't have which was great. And although there was one problem, it was a little minor. It took a little bit more time. But they were able to do multiple things and what they fixed works so I haven't had a problem.

My AC was running but it wasn't cooling. I called American Home Shield based on my policy and I told them I was having trouble with my air. I've never had a problem with the claims reps. I’ve had to call them one time about the air before or the heat and they’ve always been very polite and professional. I got an email very promptly saying my claim has been processed.

James, the guy from Myers, was very nice and professional too. He called me when he was on his way and he got here in the timeframe he said he would be here. He never had to come in my house. He did his work, and I stood out there and watched him. He answered everything I asked him and he was very polite. The unit up in the attic was full of water because one of those pieces of pipe was filling up with water. Algae was building up in it so it was stopping the water from going down and connecting to the outside unit. So, the outside unit was not kicking on.

James took the piece of PVC pipe off and he brought it down out of the attic in the garage. I was standing outside and he said that it was the problem. It's not a very big piece of pipe. So, it was not like he could clean it so he replaced it. He was here for 30 minutes. Before he left, he told me to come inside and turn the air back on and run it down. It was running perfectly. He was here at 11 o'clock in the morning and by 2 o'clock, I was having to turn it up because it was so cold in the house.

I never had a home warranty policy before. I bought this house about three years ago and I've used it maybe three times and it has always been the most professional with AHS. It's Myers normally that comes to my house and it has always been AC stuff because I have two separate AC units. I have a little one out on the sun porch and it was leaking one time.

For our first claim with AHS, our air conditioner thermostat went out. I called AHS. Whenever the contractor came out, he came with a thermostat, he replaced it, but the air conditioner was frozen up so he did some other diagnostic testing and found some issues that had to have parts ordered for. But the air conditioner worked. It just would freeze up and we'd have to let it unthaw. I'm not disappointed in that service at all. I understand that parts have to be ordered and there are tests to be done. We were able to limp along with what we had while we waited on the parts. That was not problematic.

For our recent claim with AHS, the contractor that came for my plumbing issue was a very nice man. However, he was not able to resolve my plumbing issue and I had to call someone else out and spend 500 and something dollars to fix it. There was a stoppage under the house. He said that I needed the cleanout valve which would not be covered under whatever, to do it. So I called in another plumber who was able to do it without putting in a cleanout valve.

This was the second thing that we've done with AHS. The air conditioner work that we had done, everything went fine. American Home Shield covered it. As far as from a plumbing perspective, I don't know that I'll ever call American Home Shield when I have another plumbing issue. I don't feel like my issue was adequately taken care of. If another plumber can fix it without a cleanout valve, why could the plumber, who they all were paying, not fix without the cleanout valve?

I live in a condo. My neighbor downstairs was having a leak and it was in their ceiling, so I thought it might have been my floor's plumbing. Accent Plumbing came out and determined that it was an AC condenser line that was leaking. So, they went back and said, "No, it's AC." That converted the call to Home Shield to an air conditioning call, and they came out and repaired it.

I called Home Shield and was on hold forever. It was a big ordeal, and over the course of a couple of weeks, I had to keep calling. I kept getting a call center that was not in the United States so they did not understand what I was trying to explain to them, so they kept reassigning plumbers to the issue. I used the word leak and blocked line, so they automatically put in a call for a plumber. I kept saying, "No, this is an air conditioning line." It was extremely frustrating. You have to be able to understand English if you're dealing with English-speaking customers. This involved 15 phone calls and five of them were with people who understood English, and that was when things got done.

There were two plumbers dispatched. There was Accent, and there was Bear Plumbing. Accent was were really great and respectful, while the latter seemed strange. A lot of contractors come out here and they talk to me as if I'm an idiot. I'm not. I am female. Accent Plumbing was really lovely. They explained to me everything that was going on and what they saw, so I liked them a lot.

At the back of the refrigerator, the coolant line was clogged and stocked up. It was freezing and causing ice inside the refrigerator. There were several items that need to be repaired and replaced. The light shorted out and so multiple parts had to be purchased. The refrigerator was still operating but we had to clear the ice out periodically. Then it took a little longer to get the parts. Some of the parts came in in a day or two and the other parts took about a week before they actually came in. The technician from Mr. Appliance did an excellent job of repairing and replacing and got the refrigerator back up again. He was very professional and had the tools he needed. He wore his mask, clean uniform, well presented.

The tech was able to reset it by just crushing up some ice in it to dislodge whatever was in there blocking it. Prime Plumbing fixed the problem. Also, the tech wore a mask and we tried to keep our distance.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for air conditioning and the contractor fixed it. It so happened that the next day, the other air conditioning went out. So, my husband called to have them come out and look at that one, and paid online for it. The contractor assumed it was a recall of the same claim. The same company called and said that they came out yesterday. I said that it was a different one. They said that AHS submitted it as a recall. I told them it was another completely different claim. They said that they were not gonna come out for the new claim because it was submitted as a recall. We didn't submit it as a recall and my husband paid online for it. AHS kept our money and my husband had to fix the other AC.

A lot of times when my husband submits claims, he puts in specifics. When AHS dispatches the contractors, they don’t have a sense of urgency because it took two days before the contractor came out. They need to improve on the responsiveness. They need to clarify with the vendors they're using to dispatch and make sure they understand the urgency in certain scenarios.

I was pissed off that when he got here, I couldn’t duplicate the dripping that the thing had been doing. There was no drip and he tried to replicate it but it didn’t do anything. Still, it was great. He was nice and on time. He came on a Friday and he told me that if something happens during the weekend, to just give him a call. He would come out of the callback. So, it was a good experience. I'm still getting a drip but it has not been as consistent. So I'm gonna have to watch it and then, I'm gonna record it.

I went online and made my request, and within a day or two, I had a phone call from a technician who came in to do the job.

I also had a garage door claim recently. The belt dry rotted and broke, so the tech replaced it. I ended up calling him back the next day because he put in the wrong belt. The first time I opened and closed the door, the belt popped off again. So, I called him and told him what it was. It looked like it just came unhooked, and he came right out the next day and fixed it for free. It was a good experience all the way around. I was very pleased with the air conditioning company, the technician they sent, and also with the garage door company. It seemed like there are more local providers recently because the garage door guy lived a few miles away. I like using local people. The last time I had a claim on the air conditioner, somebody came all the way across from Hernando, which is a 50-minute drive. This time was better. It was somebody that was closer.

    Original Review: Aug. 25, 2020

The American Home Shield representatives are way overwhelmed. They get way too many calls coming in and not enough time to handle what they're doing. Then the contractors that are sent out by American Home Shield are junk at best. I live in South Texas. The very first claim I called in was an AC repair. After multiple screw-ups, they finally decided that I needed an evaporator core which also included the condenser. They ordered a heat pump instead of a condenser. So that put me behind by about three to four weeks. Now they still don't have my AC working properly and it's like 105 in the shade here.

We had a technician from All Star Appliance repair my dishwasher. Then he came back out for the ice maker and did the work. There was a valve that he missed because it never made one ice cube from the time he left. So I called him back and I let him know that and he said that he would get it handled. But he hasn't been back since.

Once we got moved into the house, the thermostat was sticking. They had it on a set schedule and we couldn't change it. So, we wanted a new one that was working. On the AHS website, they didn't have a spot for what I needed when I filed the claim. So I put down something that was close to a thermostat as possible. AHS needs to have a spot for others so that people can write in what they want when there's no specific item available.

Phil’s Good AC and Heating called me to set up the time. I told the tech on the phone what kind of thermostat I needed so he didn't have to go buy one or to make a second trip out. It was nothing major. I could go to Lowe's, buy one and put it on myself. But I wanted it professionally done. The technician came out and changed it. He did what we asked to do. So it all worked out. It was a good and convenient experience.

It took about two days for the technician to come out but he was great as well as the service. AHS could improve on speeding up the turnaround time of someone coming out. Also, they put a fair amount of detail in there but there are still some things that they could explain a little bit clearer such as what they cover. I live in South Florida and here, our air conditioners run all the time so sometimes they do stall out. AHS doesn't necessarily explain exactly that that particular process is covered. When I was initially buying this warranty, I asked if they could offer more discounts if I have multiple properties I'm going to consider taking out warranties for. That would be something that would probably get more customers to sign up.

I called Home Shield again and they sent some other people out. These people got some great duct tape and taped together my swamp cooler. The valve was stripped and they fixed it. The next day, my heater was broke. We couldn't even turn it on because whatever the people did to the valve to turn it on and off was totally broken. It was gone. We burnt up that week and it was a heatwave. I called and called and tried to get somebody to come out and fix the unit again. Even if I had to pay another $100, it didn't matter. But I didn’t want the same people to come back out.

There were two air conditioning companies that came up to my house for the air conditioner. One was absolutely excellent. As for the other one, I wouldn’t even do a recall to have them come back to my house. They’re going to people’s houses and they’re doing a horrible job. They’re rushing off. But I will have Josh, the tech, back every time. As a matter of fact, I really don't want anyone else back if I have any more problems with my air conditioner at all. Josh was the best. He was very knowledgeable and was on-time for his business. He did his job and didn't rush. I talked to him wanting to know what was wrong with the unit. He took care of everything. Submitting a claim was easy because it's just either online or a call. When I did it, it was online. However, Home Shield's service was better before they started requiring the copay right out front. A year ago they sent someone, I paid $100 copay but the person never did the repair. I was out of $100 and I still had to pay someone else to get to repair. I wasn't pleased about that and considered switching to another company just because of that. This time it wasn’t the case, but if it happened on this one, I definitely would have switched.

The reps couldn't explain it. The plumber said it was some damage or something caused by the people, because it’s a rental property. But when I looked, there was no visible damage. It was just a leaky faucet and there was no way you can break a single thing because everything was intact. It was an internal component that was worn out, but the plumber said what he said, and then it was never fixed. I still had to come out of pocket to replace the whole faucet set. But other than that, Appliance Service Masters was knowledgeable. When they came out, they identified the problem. They had the mask on. And then, they ordered the parts and they came back in and troubleshot the whole system there to figure out what was wrong. The first part came in within a week and the second one, they had to order another piece that didn't come in. It was about two weeks total for everything and I was fine with it.

The contractor came for our air conditioner. They came quickly and fixed the leak. They put Freon in and left. We paid our deductible which is probably extra for the Freon we had to pay other than what American Home Shield paid. I didn’t have issues with that particular claim but we got a new furnace with them on March 4th and we had issues with that. I called them about nine times because the furnace wasn't working properly. AHS went with a company in Morgantown, a company in Uniontown and a company in Bethel Park. The Bethel Park one was the one that installed it, which I could not understand why they didn't continue to stay with them. I was wondering why they would send somebody else from another company because that company is not going to wanna deal with somebody else's mistake.

My husband and I dealt with that for probably a month and a half, going back and forth. I was exasperated on that one. Finally, I got some sort of supervisor and told them they needed to get somebody here, fix this and be done with it. It was closer to two months when we got it fixed. So, that's not good but it's working fine now. Other than that, AHS is great.

When I make claims, I wanna speak with somebody and when I call, the people are foreign. So I get very exasperated because a lot of times, you can't understand them. They talk too fast. I told the girl from Georgia that I was irritated because there was one who hung up on me from another country. I told them that I couldn’t understand them and asked them to push me on to somebody else. He hung up on me, so I wasn't happy about that. I wish that AHS would bring them back into the States so people can understand them. Also, when we first started with AHS, it was $44 a month on the first year and then, it was 50 something. Now, it's up to 62. They only raise this when your anniversary comes up so we must be going on our third year. We’re considering going elsewhere with different pricing. That was $20 from two years. So, we'll probably change in June.

The control panels on the microwave and the oven both went bad. The technician from GE came and ordered the microwave control panel. He told us that the oven needed to be replaced since they don’t make those control panels anymore. He forwarded it to American Home Shield. The guy came a week later and asked where the part was. I said that it wasn't here. He said that he requested it and I said it wasn’t here. He got to his car, came back and said that it hasn’t been shipped and to let him know when we receive it. We never received it.

A month went by and I called AHS. They assigned another company and when the technician came, he told AHS that the control panel of the microwave would take too long plus it's too expensive and it would be better to replace the oven. They don't make the control panel anymore. I waited two weeks. I called AHS and asked what was going on, They said that they have their own parts department and they were gonna look for it. So, I said that it has been over five weeks now. Two technicians have recommended the oven to be replaced and they have not done that yet. They were making me wait for a part for a microwave and it was gonna be over two months by the time they receive it. That was not right.

AHS found the part for the microwave and they claimed they found it for the oven. So, they sent it to the second technician. Two months and two days later, he was putting the control panel for the microwave. AHS sent him the part for the oven incomplete. They said that they would send the cover for it that showed the buttons later. Three days later, AHS sent the wrong panel. Finally, after the appliance guy checked, he called them and explained. Even though they emailed that the oven needed to be replaced, AHS did not budge until a week later. They said that they would contact me for my option.

AHS called and offered me $700 on a $3,000 double wall, stainless steel oven. Then he looked and said that they made a mistake. It was a double door and they did not know that. Then, they did not have it on their website. They offered me $1,500. I told him that the cheapest one would cost 2,299 without installation. It was a disgusting service. Plus, you wait on the phone an hour. I waited for the department of appliance for 3 hours and 10 minutes. We’re still waiting for the check for the double wall oven and it has been three months. I own three properties. I cancelled AHS for this one and I’m gonna cancel the third one. I saw their commercial on my phone that they recommend better home warranty but they are terrible. The service is way below standard and they treat people like they are liars and garbage.

I’ve been with AHS since 2008 and they used to be much better. They used to answer the phone right away, and replace things or repair them within a week or two at most. They even told me that if their technician has gone too long, I can find my technician. They’ll reimburse me. This was 10 years ago and they’re a totally different company. They know what they’re doing. They don’t give a damn about the consumer and they’re trying to make as much money as possible. This is ridiculous. They’re out for themselves. It is a scam and they called me to ask why I cancelled. I told them why.

Every time we called, the request was accepted and they sent someone over. Then, they did the fixable item that was covered by insurance. So we're happy.

A Town Group was wonderful. They did a great job for my washer and my dryer. It took about a week for the part to come in. I would have liked it faster, but because of the pandemic, I'm sure everything slowed down. But they fixed it. AHS sent three different people out to do my refrigerator. The last guy fixed it, but he told me that I needed two other parts or then it wouldn't be lasting. But he fixed it enough so it could start working. But I haven't heard anything from him. Maybe the parts haven't come in. AHS is very beneficial. My washer went out. They couldn't repair it so they sent me a list of washers to choose from off a site. They sent it out and it was nice.

For an electrical outlet that wasn't working, I called American Home Shield to make a claim and that went well. I wanted a certain electric company. I had a bad experience with the electric company that they automatically put me with so I had to get them over the phone. The first one American Home Shield gave me couldn't take me until 31 days so I waited that long. The contractor then said that the only person they had called in sick and I would have to wait another 30 days. American Home Shield was able to give me a second contractor and that was better. They took me in three days. American Home Shield has been good.

I had a problem that was some kind of a wire that was loose. The guy repaired that then the AC went out days later. He said that something about the panel and box got wet so he inserted some screws in there to keep it from the wind flying it open. It’s been working fine since. I just wish you can be able to explain your problem a little more in depth versus doing a generic drop down box.

For our recent claim with AHS, the contractors handled it pretty well. We found out what the situation was. There was something that the builders didn't tell me, that I had a knob control for the outside faucet. It wasn't working at the time. We didn't know that there was a knob control upstairs in the other bathroom. The contractor was able to show me where it was and what we had to do. It was simple. We had another problem regarding the doorbell and that was corrected too. The guy came, fixed it and got it safe for us. So, everything worked out well.

We weren't gonna be there. So he came out quickly after that. The contractor was awesome. He was top-notch. However, I had a refrigerator claim that was going on for like four months. There was so much back and forth. I was getting conflicting information, nonsensical declining claims. I have two identical refrigerators with identical problems. They approved one and declined the other one. They said because the problem was misuse of the refrigerator. But they both had the same exact problem. I had another claim declined too by a technicality. There was a hose bibb problem and they wouldn't fix it because the hose bibbs were not in the foundation, of the main foundation, but they really were. So I had been arm wrestling that.

I had a problem with my dryer. The vendor that AHS sent out was Sears Service and the guys took care of the problem. They found what was wrong but it took three times to finally get it right. I'm sure they’re good technicians but it took them a while to try and figure out exactly what the problem was. They also had to come back three times and order some parts. But they explained everything and fixed the dryer. It's been a week since the repair and so far, the dryer's performance has been okay.

But trying to get a hold of somebody at AHS is almost impossible. I know that they are the number one rated warranty company, but that drags them down and if I wasn't retired, I would cancel. For my last claim, I spent an hour and 34 minutes the first time on hold, then they hung up on me. Hours later, that was another hour and a half hold time. I put in over six hours on hold with calls that I made and the first two times I called, I got reps from the Philippines. Their English was good but sometimes, their accent was hard to understand. Then, the last time I called, I called in the evening, got hold of somebody in Kentucky, and it was great.

I’ve had American Home Shield off and on for probably 10 years. I purchased it when I bought the house but I've only lived in that house for two years. The claims process itself is fairly easy and it's actually getting the technician or finding the contractor to come do the work that's the problem with AHS. You can go online and set up the service claim, so that's not a problem at all. It's an availability issue, and sometimes that's geographical. So, I've had AHS in large metropolitan areas where there is an abundance of contractors but then, I’ve had it in Arkansas and it's been harder for them to find people to have under contract. Even in larger areas, the contractors change frequently probably because of their reimbursement. So, I'm not sure what could be done about that unless they're gonna change their entire process.

Of the home warranties that I've used, American Home Shield is probably better as far as their coverage. They're all equally bad though and in the end, I probably can't think of too many times where I've benefited from having them. It's more probably a break even situation most times but I do keep it. It's reasonably priced and if there is something that completely goes out, they'll pay towards replacing some of it. But overall, none of them is great. The AC unit was running and the thermostat said it was maintaining the temperature but it didn't feel cool and it was humid in the house. I was also noticing a lot of condensation in the house. Atchley Air, the contractor, had worked on it last year so I had them come out and make sure that it was functioning properly.

The garage door malfunctioned. I pushed down the button when I was leaving and it came down sort of sideways. I got out of the car and came through the front door. I looked and one side was down and there were two inches on the other side where it didn't come down. I connected the automatic garage door and I put my foot on it and pushed it down because I had to go to work. With the garage door out of commission, it was a pain in the neck when I went to the store and it would have been a pain in the neck every single day coming home from work because that's how I come in.

I called Home Shield and I was on hold for a very long time, which I wasn't very pleased with, and I had to wait. I was given a time when to expect the contractor and they met that expectation. I got a call later that day and the contractor made an appointment. When the tech came, he said it was off the track and when it came down and had that problem, it burned out the motor because it was trying to close. The tech was awesome and everything has been great since they came out.

Our pool pump motor went out. I tried a few things to see if it was a circuit breaker and it wasn't. When my normal pool service company came out, they checked and said the motor was burnt out. That's when I contacted American Home Shield and they put me in touch with the service provider. Initially, he came out to kind of do a review and see exactly what was going on. He let me know that the pump had been burned out and that they were gonna order a replacement which should be in in a couple of days. When it would be in, he would call to notify me, set up the schedule and replace it. We had him out on a Tuesday and the part came in on Wednesday. He came out on Thursday, installed it, and pool's worked perfectly since.

We've had American Home Shield for 10 years, give or take. Because I've been using it for a fairly long time, I'm familiar with the process. But in New Jersey, we lived out in the country so getting somebody to come out and do service was usually a multi-week kind of process. We were between farms so providers were coming from the more suburban towns 40, 50 miles away. We also did have some problems with the providers that they sent. Some called, made an appointment but never showed up. Some showed up once but never came back.

Here in Florida, I put a call in and I usually get on a schedule within two to three business days. They've all come out on time and performed the work. If it failed again, they came out right away to take care of that. Overall, it's worked better in Florida but it's because we're in a more suburban area and there are more service providers available. Here, we're getting providers that are three or four miles away. That difference of the geography and availability of providers makes a big difference. But I would not fault American Home Shield for that. They're not responsible for who's available or how sparsely populated an area might be.

I've been extremely happy with American Home Shield. This is the first time we've ever had a swimming pool and it was great to find out that American Home Shield does cover things on swimming pools. I would never have thought of it. When I was moving our service and talking to the representative about our new property, they started asking me questions. They asked if I have a swimming pool to which I answered yes. They said for a very minor additional cost, I get a fairly thorough coverage on the pool. It did save a couple of things 'cause unfortunately, some of the pieces of equipment are a little bit older, like the pump that failed. That's kind of a good thing that representatives get some fairly thorough information on where the homeowner is, the type of property, and what additional benefits might be available. I'm very pleased with that.

We have the next door app that we use out here, and I'm constantly recommending American Home Shield to neighbors when they say they got concerns about moving into a house. I tell them one thing they might look into is like American Home Shield. It's helped us with some situations and it's worth giving some consideration.

Everything's been going smoothly with American Home Shield. They're very good. They're very pleasant, quick, efficient and effective. The contractors have been professional and courteous. The process of submitting a claim was straightforward. I did it through the website. You just log into your account and go to the part where it says what's being covered then select from the covered list what your problems are and which ones of the items that you want to have service for. There’s a dropdown window that says what is the potential problem with each one of them. Next, you select either one of them. If your issue or problem is not part of the offered list, then you say “other”, then submit and pay.

My most recent claim was for my washing machine, dryer, and dishwasher. The contractor came on time. They said from 11:00 to 2:00 and they were here shortly after 11:00. The gentleman looked at everything, assessed everything and told me what was wrong with what. He said he was gonna order the parts and once they will receive the parts, they’re gonna give us a call and schedule a time for him to bring the parts and change them.

He came the next day, opened the refrigerator, and said that this would be the part that I'd need and was out the door in less than two minutes.

According to the website, parts come quickly. But then, for me, it took almost a month for that part to get here. When it came, it wasn't the right part. But then again, the guy didn't look at anything so it was another week that went by. It resolved the issue for about an hour, but then it became a problem again, so they needed another part. All in all, they were here seven times. But I was glad that it was Sears this time. I was very pleased with their service. The guy was able to fix the appliance.

Surface Pro Heating and Air was top-notch, very professional, very helpful and extremely keeping in contact with me. It took them 19 days to get the part because they could not get ahold of American Home Shield. Because you have to sit on hold for an hour and a half to get anything done with those people. When they had to call and order the parts for my air conditioner, this woman had to sit on the phone with them waiting for almost two hours to get it ordered. It took another seven days for American Home Shield to get the thing ordered or give permission for them to order it.

I'm extremely dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I would not recommend them to my dog. It’s that bad. I was going to cancel them. Then I got to look at the contract, and they renewed my contract without a signature and without my name. I don't like them. The website was a complete fiasco from beginning to end. I’d rather talk to a person in a heartbeat. They said that they had to cut that because of the pandemic, but they should have someone available to talk on the phone.

Our most recent claim with AHS was for the plumbing. They assigned a tech to come out. The tech found the issue and fixed it. It was quite simple. Our experience with the contractors was fantastic. But on our air conditioning issue before that, I was not happy. What we did was I called American Home Shield, they contacted somebody. We had no air and it was in the hottest part of this summer so far. It took two days for them to contact the contractors. So, that was two days sitting without air conditioning. It took a while, like two days before the contractors contacted me. Then four days later they came out and then they said they had the part in stock and they would get back with me.

When they got back with me and said, “It's gonna be three to four days,” I was like, “Are you kidding me?” I was in the house all day because I don't have a vehicle and so, after four days, I called and the rep said, “You didn't fill the paperwork out.” I said, “I sent you an email stating, ‘Yes, let's get those done,’” Because they send emails out. But I didn't click a button, which I didn't realize ‘cause I'm not into that too much. I was supposed to click a button and accept, but I sent an email. They didn't take the email because I didn't click the button.

Finally, after the fifth day, the contractors came out and they fixed it. They just really didn't try to help their customers. I had talked to other air conditioning people and they said, “We would’ve brought you like a room air that you could put room to room, so you wouldn't be in the heat.” Those people didn't do it. So, I was not happy. If I ever have air conditioning issues, I don't want those people to come out. I complained to American Home Shield too. But they said, “It's in their hands.” Basically, they threw it in the contractors’ hands. I didn't get any response from anything. So, in December, ‘cause I didn't renew, I was thinking of looking for somebody else just because of that. Other than that, we've had no problems with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield is there when I need them. But companies nickel-and-dime you for just the littlest things and then they make it seem as though they're really offering you something. If I compare American Home Shield to the last time I had a home warranty, they go the nickel-and-diming now. You call them up for them to fix something and you cross your fingers that the technician doesn’t hem and haw about and say that it's not under the warranty and charge extra. AHS called someone out for garage and the fee was $75. Then the technician put something on that I could have put on myself but he charged me 80 more dollars.

The first technician who came out for the AC was nickel-and-diming me. He really didn't fix it. He didn't even check it. Instead, he just said that there was nothing that he could do and just to call them back when it would happen again. That was worth $75. But when you call them back within a certain amount of time, you don’t have to pay another $75. Then the second guy came out and I showed him the video of how I turned it off and turned it back on and all of a sudden it was working again. He said that it was our condenser. So at least, this second guy went out there and took care of it. Now, all has been taken care of and I don’t have to worry about my air conditioning going down in the worst parts of the heat in Las Vegas at 118 degrees.

I'm still satisfied American Home Shield. If you call after hours, there is a phone prompt that will prompt you into pushing some buttons. Then they will say what the claim is for and you push 1, 2, or 3. That’ll go out to the nearest retailer that takes care of it. That retailer will reach out to you and then you'll be notified either by your phone or email of the progress. That helps out when things go out and it’s after hours.

We're waiting for either the motor to burn our house down or a miracle tech that can actually fix this refrigerator. They take hours to get on the phone, then put you on hold some more. Nothing has been resolved! We're living with a fire hazard and the fear of food poisoning. We are a family of six relying on this for food! It is completely unacceptable living conditions for all of us. But their customer support will say, "we understand, no worries." This is ridiculous.

    Thanks for your vote!
