The part that heats up the oven went out and I contacted American Home Shield. They assigned a contractor to repair it but because of the COVID-19 stuff that's going on, the contractor gave me a date when they thought that they would be able to repair it, which was about three weeks later. We don't use our oven that often, so it wasn't that big of an issue. They came when they said they were gonna come. The technician fixed it in about 15 minutes and all was good. The only thing is that AHS assigned it to the contractor, which is here locally, and let me know that the contractor would be contacting me to set up an appointment time. But I waited a couple of days and did not hear from them. I got their number off the text and called them to schedule the appointment. But I could understand the delay in contacting me and beyond that, everything was fine.

It's pretty misleading that AHS doesn't cover everything. I was irritated about that. A home warranty is a home warranty. But I don't think you need to be a lawyer to have to sign up for a home warranty contract. First thing they do is point you to the fine print that they don't tell you about when you're signing up. I'll be looking for somebody else as far as home warranty goes, but Cote's did a great job. The first time Cote's came out, I had a 100 and something dollar bill and then the second time they came out, I had an 800 and something dollar bill, so that's not really a home warranty if I'm still having to pay. They replaced the coil, and there were additional parts required that were not covered. Cote's Mechanical was professional.
Thanks for contacting us in regards to this. We do appreciate you for sharing your feedback related to this experience. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

Calling in my claim for an AC issue to American Home Shield was very easy to do. They sent A-US Air Conditioning of Tulsa to handle it. The techs from there replaced my AC's 18-year-old drain pan which had holes in it. We had a leak from there coming down. Since the replacement, the AC has been running well. Overall, AHS has been great and I've had good experiences with them. I'd recommend them to other people.

We didn't have air for three days and it was extremely hot. On other occasions and other events, American Home Shield has been very prompt, but this time was a total fiasco. Initially, I had told American Home Shield my AC was coming down. Three hours later, I hadn't heard from anybody and my AC was still coming down a little bit at a time. I understand it was busy and they were trying to get somebody out here, but they didn't send anybody till the very end of the day.
I called back to Greenway and they said they never got a dispatch. Someone called me on his cell phone to tell me he was here, so I called him back on that phone. I said, “Look, nobody's still here. What am I supposed to do?” He goes, “You have to call in dispatch. I have to okay it with American Home Shield.” I felt good when the technician was here because what he said was it would work and everything would be fine. That's not what happened though. By the time Greenway got here, half my AC was down. They then couldn't do anything because a pipe was stopped up. I had to wait till the next day to get a plumber. I was told that an emergency plumber would be sent that night, but it never happened.
The next day, I called American Home Shield as they were reaching out to me on the other line to find out when a plumber was coming. They set one up and it was late in the evening before DrainGo got here, but they were fabulous and absolutely top-notch. They corrected the problem within 30 minutes, and we had air. They explained stuff to us too. Still, we are probably gonna make a change or cancel ‘cause I feel like the warranty is not working for us. We paid $1,200 a year plus $100 every visit. We’d only use them about four times a year and that could change, but I feel for the money that we're spending, we could just pay somebody out of our pocket.

Our AC unit was low on Freon. Hospitality Heating and Air conditioning came out and fixed that. American Home Shield has been a lifesaver. When filing claims, I've used calling them and then doing it online. It's very easy. I've recommended it to a lot of my friends and colleagues to let them know that it's better to have it and not need it than need it and don't have it.

American Home Shield has been quick, efficient and complete. I just went to the computer and requested someone for a plumbing issue. Then I followed up the next day and spoke with someone from Brick Street Plumbing. The plumber was very courteous. I told him that he could pull on the driveway and he actually said that they would pull on the street. Everything has been good. Unfortunately, I have to put in another claim.

Six months after I bought our house, there was an issue with our hot water heater. I paid my co-pay with American Home Shield and their contractor came out and fixed the unit. I've been with AHS for about a year and a half now. I called in my claims with them and it was all automated. I haven't had an issue with their claims process. Burleson Services was assigned for an AC claim and everything was fine. The next day a tech came and that person explained everything well.

I submitted a claim online with AHS for the repair of the garbage disposal. The website was very streamlined and it was easy to submit the service request. Home Choice Services came out and they were very professional. They responded in a timely fashion and the content was quickly addressed. However, they felt that American Home Shield will not cover it so we ended up having to pay out of pocket. But while it would be considered a non wear and tear issue, that it was a small piece of plastic, there were no signs of negligence that resulted in it. It was just a small part of the garbage disposal itself that might have come loose and damaged the blade. But overall, that was a pretty pleasant experience from the contractor that came in and how quickly they responded.
I also submitted a request for the AC that was ultimately issued to World Class AC and that went pretty terrible overall. The request that was submitted was, and I was very clear that, I have small children some of which are under the age of three years old and that it could potentially become a suffocation issue for them. The ticket didn't get expedited the first time I called. I did not get a call from a contractor within the first 24 hours.
Then, once I finally got a call from a contractor, the contractor said he couldn't come out until late that week or the next week. I called and I couldn't get the ticket reissued on the same day because it was already under service through the website. My average wait time per call was about 90 minutes to try to get these things addressed. It was about three calls that I had to follow up before I finally got it reissued to a service technician. I had to spend five hours of my personal time just to get something done that should've been done correctly the first time.
The contractor came out to do the estimate and the service technicians were very professional. They brought their mask and quickly gave an accurate assessment of what was going on. But the service required approval and they tried calling twice and did not get a reply that same day. They deferred it until the very next day. When I called up to follow up on them to figure out where it was 24 hours later, I tried to call them twice. The first time, they hung up on me because they said that they have other people that they have to service. I called back and they said that me calling back 10 minutes after they just got off the phone with me was annoying. I ended up paying this out of my pocket because of this terrible experience and I had a completely different service technician.
It's kinda hit-or-miss with AHS. It's very heavily dependent on the contractors and whether or not they have structures in place to be able to handle some of the inefficiencies of being able to work through customer service. That's a really big problem. From the American Home Shield side of it, the biggest issue is having to call these things in and having an hour to two-hour wait time every single time. That makes things difficult for both contractors and customers.

It was easy to file a claim with AHS 'cause in their system, I could do a follow-up and a “Not fixed, send somebody back out,” although I could only do those on the computer and not on the mobile version. I never try to call them 'cause it ain't gonna work. It's easy to dial. It's just that I can't get anybody on the phone for hours. When I say hours, if just googling reviews for American Home Shield, I see people on hold for 13 hours or 14 hours. I've never talked to anybody in that company.
I had an AC issue and the second contractor Cote's Mechanical fixed the piece that was in there. This claim cost me more money 'cause it would not let the AHS system shut down. I don't know how the two individuals work together when they close out tickets, but they closed out the original repair ticket, so I had to pay another $100 to get the contractor to come back out. Luckily, this last time was the follow-up to that time, so I just caught it in the nick of time to get it to not cost me again. Nonetheless, I like the ease of getting people out once I file a claim online.

American Home Shield has been excellent for us so far. My wife handles most of the claim submissions and she's able to do and pay for everything online, so it's very user-friendly. We have the same guy from JG Mechanical who always comes out. We really like him 'cause he's very timely, gets everything done very professionally, and does great work.
When we initially submitted the request, he called us to set up an appointment and was out here that same day. When it didn't work, he had to come back out. We called back to AHS, they contacted him again and he was in touch with us again the very same day to schedule an appointment. He diagnosed the AC and said it was the compressor and it wouldn’t be for two weeks before he could get back to fix it. He was back in a couple of days, had it done very quickly, and we had cool air blowing through our house. Then whenever he came into the house, he did have a mask on. But since all the work was outside, he didn't need to come in the house.

I had an issue with my AC unit. I got a chance to go on the American Home Shield website and I stated what the issue was. I paid the deductible and they gave me the contact information of the company that would come out and help. But this time of year, the company was a little busy so it took them a couple of days to come out. But once they came, they were fast and efficient. I described the problem to the tech and he pretty much knew exactly what the problem was. He had his mask on and he had booties on his shoes so that he wasn't tracking anything on the carpet. He diagnosed the situation and in about 30 minutes, he had the AC running again. Since then, I haven't had any issues. American Home Shield did a pretty streamlined process. It was a pretty simple one so that's a good thing.

Our thermostat stopped working, so it was blank, and the AC shut down. I went online to submit a claim with AHS and the process was pretty good. Plus, it was fast and I didn't have to be on hold with anyone. I really liked it. I got a confirmation as soon as I put in the request and it said that the contractor was going to call me within 24 hours. Then, I got a text that the contractor was going to be here the next day. So it was very swift, very quick, and I didn't have to wait or follow up with anyone. When the techs came in, they fixed the problem and they were really good. They got it working and it's summer here, we needed the AC. So, we were happy with it. All in all, AHS has been really good and I feel like the warranty was a worthwhile investment in the house.

A couple of friends of mine recommended that I get American Home Shield. I had a claim where they sent Steven Vandervort out. The contractor arrived on time. And as he was doing his service, he was talking to me through the service. He did what he had to do, and he left. He had something on his feet as well as he had a mask on when he came in. He had gloves on as well. So far, so good. As far as the claim to American Home Shield, I was able to do that online, pay online, and then they sent me back an email so everything went well.

I told Home Shield I had some drainage problems. And then, when The Lindsay Company called and said they would come out and fix one, I said, “No. I’ve got three.” Then I had to call back with Home Shield. That took three days, but that was my fault. The guy from The Lindsay Company came in and he was professional. He wore a mask. He had everything he needed. He didn't have to make four or five runs in or out. He knew what he was fixing and he got it all fixed. Everything is good. I had dental floss and stuff like that in my bathroom sink drains. The other one is also where my air conditioner condensation water runs into that drain. It had clogged up with just some junk but the tech cleaned that out and then put the stuff in there that will not allow that stuff to gather up. It would go ahead and drain out. That was the first time I've had to use Home Shield, but I'm satisfied.

It was nice to have the same technician both times and not somebody new. It was two or three visits, but they got the unit going now. The claim submission process was straightforward but it’s convoluted how to get in touch with AHS when you have an issue. There is no direct customer service, email or anything that they provide. So, I had to go through security then I was redirected to another department. It wasn't a cut and dried process. My claim is still being processed because the repair company charged me for a duct modification that was not required. So, I'm waiting for the refund but American Home Shield did a great job in the way they handled the initial service. They responded quickly. It's just that this prepaid issue has clouded the whole process. For people considering a home warranty, they should make sure that they get everything that they think they need to have coverage included. I did that. One thing I like about American Home Shield is they cover rust and that was what coincidentally happened to my AC. The AC coil had rusted out.

I called Home Shield back and told them no one responded. They also sent another emai to the company and called but they didn't respond. That was when they got AC Plus involved. Home Shield did a good job on getting someone out here but they need to make sure that whoever is in their system is an active contractor because when they have someone on their list who doesn't respond, it's not good for the customer.

Everybody was having issues with their air conditioning so it did take a really long time for the contractor to come out. We waited maybe a good seven days. But we're extremely happy with American Home Shield.

We are told that having insurance/warranties is a good idea although it may not seem so until you use it. I subscribe to this philosophy most of the time. AHS will no longer be one of the companies I can trust to execute everything they promise in an acceptable manner. I have had this service for the last three years and had occasion to use it three times. AHS has met my expectations one time of the three and it happened to be the first time only. This last occasion was the one that broke my camel's back...
A/C went out. I called AHS. They responded in a timely manner and requested an appointment in my behalf. It was Friday, 2pm. Temp in Tex was 100. No air conditioning. Received email message stating the appointment was requested and the repair company would contact me to set a time and date. Saturday afternoon, still no A/C, temp pushing 100 degrees. "Top tier" contractor reached me via text that they would be by to see me on MONDAY, 48 hours more to wait. I spoke with AHS. When I requested they try to find someone that may be able to come sooner than MONDAY, I was told that they could not do that because the contractor they had schedule met their parameters for responding to a service request... AHS suggested that maybe "I" could reach out to the contractor and request expedited service and I pay the difference... That did not sit too well.
Sunday was a 100 degree day as well, humidity in the home was creeping into the 60% area. As expected the contractor appeared at my door at 3:30 pm on Monday afternoon (no way anything was going to be fixed at that hour..) The technician was probably the best part of this whole experience. He was forthcoming with information on the problem, courteous and accommodating as far as agreeing to follow up with a date when the parts and service would resume. Tuesday a.m., I have still not received word from the contractor nor AHS about when the part will be in and much less when the repair will be scheduled. 96 hours and counting... It's good that one looks to have insurance/warranties but it's the bad execution that disappoints us.

We have a home warranty with American Home Shield. We've had trouble with our refrigerator on and off for about 6 months. After 4-5 repairpersons were sent to our house to attempt to repair and those attempts failed (even though some worked for a week or two) we were told by AHS that yet another repair person would need to come out "only to diagnose, and if he confirms is irrepairable, we will replace your refrigerator." The repair person did confirm it was not repairable -- and keeps the food at only about 50-ish degrees--not cold enough to be safe. Not only did AHS not replace it, they said "we'll have to send out a person to give a 2nd opinion. We have to confirm that the tech who said it cannot be fixed is telling the truth." WHAT??? We haven't had a reliable way to consistently keep our food cold in months. This is a company with whom we will never again do business.

I've used American Home Shield a couple of times and I'm really happy with it. I put an online request in and Professional Plumbing Service was sent out. They were wonderful. They called me within a half-hour. They could've come out later that day or the next day but I said we wouldn't allow it. They were really efficient and responsive. They looked at all the problems I had. They were fast, efficient, friendly, and obeyed COVID rules so it was good. They came to the door and automatically had their masks on which I appreciated because some people would come to the door and if you're wearing a mask, then they put one on.
Professional Plumbing did their work and they weren't right in my face. One guy was more experienced than the other one who was being trained. But they were constantly communicating with each other. One person would check so that was really good. It turned out that the serious problem I thought I had, I didn't have which was great. And although there was one problem, it was a little minor. It took a little bit more time. But they were able to do multiple things and what they fixed works so I haven't had a problem.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I live in a condo. My neighbor downstairs was having a leak and it was in their ceiling, so I thought it might have been my floor's plumbing. Accent Plumbing came out and determined that it was an AC condenser line that was leaking. So, they went back and said, "No, it's AC." That converted the call to Home Shield to an air conditioning call, and they came out and repaired it.
I called Home Shield and was on hold forever. It was a big ordeal, and over the course of a couple of weeks, I had to keep calling. I kept getting a call center that was not in the United States so they did not understand what I was trying to explain to them, so they kept reassigning plumbers to the issue. I used the word leak and blocked line, so they automatically put in a call for a plumber. I kept saying, "No, this is an air conditioning line." It was extremely frustrating. You have to be able to understand English if you're dealing with English-speaking customers. This involved 15 phone calls and five of them were with people who understood English, and that was when things got done.
There were two plumbers dispatched. There was Accent, and there was Bear Plumbing. Accent was were really great and respectful, while the latter seemed strange. A lot of contractors come out here and they talk to me as if I'm an idiot. I'm not. I am female. Accent Plumbing was really lovely. They explained to me everything that was going on and what they saw, so I liked them a lot.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for air conditioning and the contractor fixed it. It so happened that the next day, the other air conditioning went out. The same company called and said that they came out yesterday. I said that it was a different one. They said that AHS submitted it as a recall. I told them it was another completely different claim. They said that they were not gonna come out for the new claim because it was submitted as a recall. We didn't submit it as a recall and my husband paid online for it. AHS kept our money and my husband had to fix the other AC.
A lot of times when my husband submits claims, he puts in specifics. When AHS dispatches the contractors, they don’t have a sense of urgency because it took two days before the contractor came out. They need to improve on the responsiveness. They need to clarify with the vendors they're using to dispatch and make sure they understand the urgency in certain scenarios.

I went online and made my request, and within a day or two, I had a phone call from a technician who came in to do the job.
I also had a garage door claim recently. The belt dry rotted and broke, so the tech replaced it. I ended up calling him back the next day because he put in the wrong belt. The first time I opened and closed the door, the belt popped off again. So, I called him and told him what it was. It looked like it just came unhooked, and he came right out the next day and fixed it for free. It was a good experience all the way around. I was very pleased with the air conditioning company, the technician they sent, and also with the garage door company. It seemed like there are more local providers recently because the garage door guy lived a few miles away. I like using local people. Then I get a call almost within an hour or so later from whoever is gonna do the work.

My AC was running but it wasn't cooling. I called American Home Shield based on my policy and I told them I was having trouble with my air. I've never had a problem with the claims reps. I’ve had to call them one time about the air before or the heat and they’ve always been very polite and professional. I got an email very promptly saying my claim has been processed.
James, the guy from Myers, was very nice and professional too. He called me when he was on his way and he got here in the timeframe he said he would be here. He never had to come in my house. He did his work, and I stood out there and watched him. He answered everything I asked him and he was very polite. The unit up in the attic was full of water because one of those pieces of pipe was filling up with water. Algae was building up in it so it was stopping the water from going down and connecting to the outside unit. So, the outside unit was not kicking on.
James took the piece of PVC pipe off and he brought it down out of the attic in the garage. I was standing outside and he said that it was the problem. It's not a very big piece of pipe. So, it was not like he could clean it so he replaced it. He was here for 30 minutes. Before he left, he told me to come inside and turn the air back on and run it down. It was running perfectly. He was here at 11 o'clock in the morning and by 2 o'clock, I was having to turn it up because it was so cold in the house.
I never had a home warranty policy before. I bought this house about three years ago and I've used it maybe three times and it has always been the most professional with AHS. It's Myers normally that comes to my house and it has always been AC stuff because I have two separate AC units. I have a little one out on the sun porch and it was leaking one time.

The temperature sensor on our Samsung dryer was having an issue. American Home Shield connected me with Appliance Tech Inc and given me the option to call the company. The company reached out to me, we set up a time for them to come out. Initially, they wanted to come out sooner than I was available to see them. They were very punctual and professional. The two individuals had all the proper PPE with it being COVID-sensitive nowadays. They were quite efficient and clean. They did what they were supposed to do. Up to this point, I've had no issues with the repair. But I had a couple of questions with that company and they never followed up. It would be pertinent that their contract representatives also do a follow-up. We've also used American Home Shield for our upstairs cooling unit. We've been pleased with the people that they use, so far. I've recommended them to my sister who took them on.

I was pissed off that when he got here, I couldn’t duplicate the dripping that the thing had been doing. There was no drip and he tried to replicate it but it didn’t do anything. Still, it was great. He was nice and on time. He came on a Friday and he told me that if something happens during the weekend, to just give him a call. He would come out of the callback. So, it was a good experience. I'm still getting a drip but it has not been as consistent. So I'm gonna have to watch it and then, I'm gonna record it.

The ice maker on my refrigerator wasn't working. Sears came out on behalf of American Home Shield four times and never got my issue fixed. The tech said that the issue was a panel at the back of my refrigerator. He replaced that and put in the wrong panel. That shut my whole refrigerator down and I lost all my food. I kept complaining to Home Shield and a guy from there told me there was nothing I could do. I paid $100 to get my issue fixed and I want it fixed. Finally, AHS sent out Crites Heating & Cooling. The tech from there knew what he was doing. He replaced the whole ice maker.
At that point though, I was not a happy camper after losing $200 worth of food. I just want to drop American Home Shield 'cause I feel that if their contractor can't fix my issue, then they should have replaced my refrigerator. If I stay as a member, I'm gonna refuse to let Sears come to my place. I called Home Shield and told them to make a note on my account that Sears is bad news. The reps were pretty sharp with me about that.

For our first claim with AHS, our air conditioner thermostat went out. I called AHS. Whenever the contractor came out, he came with a thermostat, he replaced it, but the air conditioner was frozen up so he did some other diagnostic testing and found some issues that had to have parts ordered for. But the air conditioner worked. It just would freeze up and we'd have to let it unthaw. I'm not disappointed in that service at all. I understand that parts have to be ordered and there are tests to be done. We were able to limp along with what we had while we waited on the parts. That was not problematic.
For our recent claim with AHS, the contractor that came for my plumbing issue was a very nice man. However, he was not able to resolve my plumbing issue and I had to call someone else out and spend 500 and something dollars to fix it. There was a stoppage under the house. He said that I needed the cleanout valve which would not be covered under whatever, to do it. So I called in another plumber who was able to do it without putting in a cleanout valve.
This was the second thing that we've done with AHS. The air conditioner work that we had done, everything went fine. American Home Shield covered it. As far as from a plumbing perspective, I don't know that I'll ever call American Home Shield when I have another plumbing issue. I don't feel like my issue was adequately taken care of. If another plumber can fix it without a cleanout valve, why could the plumber, who they all were paying, not fix without the cleanout valve?

At the back of the refrigerator, the coolant line was clogged and stocked up. It was freezing and causing ice inside the refrigerator. There were several items that need to be repaired and replaced. The light shorted out and so multiple parts had to be purchased. The refrigerator was still operating but we had to clear the ice out periodically. Then it took a little longer to get the parts. Some of the parts came in in a day or two and the other parts took about a week before they actually came in. The technician from Mr. Appliance did an excellent job of repairing and replacing and got the refrigerator back up again. He was very professional and had the tools he needed. He wore his mask, clean uniform, well presented.

The American Home Shield representatives are way overwhelmed. They get way too many calls coming in and not enough time to handle what they're doing. Then the contractors that are sent out by American Home Shield are junk at best. I live in South Texas. The very first claim I called in was an AC repair. After multiple screw-ups, they finally decided that I needed an evaporator core which also included the condenser. They ordered a heat pump instead of a condenser. So that put me behind by about three to four weeks. Now they still don't have my AC working properly and it's like 105 in the shade here.
We had a technician from All Star Appliance repair my dishwasher. Then he came back out for the ice maker and did the work. There was a valve that he missed because it never made one ice cube from the time he left. So I called him back and I let him know that and he said that he would get it handled. But he hasn't been back since.

The AHS website was really helpful. It was very easy to create a claim and get someone assigned to it. Then Alste Electric had given me a call two days after I created the claim. The tech was really helpful. He figured out what the problem was but he had to return back because when he initially came, he thought only one of the things was broken in the panel. He replaced that thing that was not working in it and it started working. But it stopped working by the end of the day. So he had to create a follow-up appointment and come back to fix it. There was so much back and forth. I was getting conflicting information, nonsensical declining claims. I have two identical refrigerators with identical problems. They approved one and declined the other one. They said because the problem was misuse of the refrigerator. But they both had the same exact problem. I had another claim declined too by a technicality. Our pool pump motor went out. I tried a few things to see if it was a circuit breaker and it wasn't. When my normal pool service company came out, they checked and said the motor was burnt out. That's when I contacted American Home Shield and they put me in touch with the service provider. Initially, he came out to kind of do a review and see exactly what was going on. He let me know that the pump had been burned out and that they were gonna order a replacement which should be in in a couple of days. When it would be in, he would call to notify me, set up the schedule and replace it. We had him out on a Tuesday and the part came in on Wednesday. He came out on Thursday, installed it, and pool's worked perfectly since.
We've had American Home Shield for 10 years, give or take. Because I've been using it for a fairly long time, I'm familiar with the process. But in New Jersey, we lived out in the country so getting somebody to come out and do service was usually a multi-week kind of process. We were between farms so providers were coming from the more suburban towns 40, 50 miles away. We also did have some problems with the providers that they sent. Some called, made an appointment but never showed up. Some showed up once but never came back.
Here in Florida, I put a call in and I usually get on a schedule within two to three business days. They've all come out on time and performed the work. If it failed again, they came out right away to take care of that. Overall, it's worked better in Florida but it's because we're in a more suburban area and there are more service providers available. Here, we're getting providers that are three or four miles away. That difference of the geography and availability of providers makes a big difference. But I would not fault American Home Shield for that. They're not responsible for who's available or how sparsely populated an area might be.
I've been extremely happy with American Home Shield. This is the first time we've ever had a swimming pool and it was great to find out that American Home Shield does cover things on swimming pools. I would never have thought of it. When I was moving our service and talking to the representative about our new property, they started asking me questions. They asked if I have a swimming pool to which I answered yes. They said for a very minor additional cost, I get a fairly thorough coverage on the pool. It did save a couple of things 'cause unfortunately, some of the pieces of equipment are a little bit older, like the pump that failed. That's kind of a good thing that representatives get some fairly thorough information on where the homeowner is, the type of property, and what additional benefits might be available. I'm very pleased with that.
We have the next door app that we use out here, and I'm constantly recommending American Home Shield to neighbors when they say they got concerns about moving into a house. I tell them one thing they might look into is like American Home Shield. It's helped us with some situations and it's worth giving some consideration.
I am glad to hear you are happy with your experience with us so far. Thanks for sharing your experience and thanks for recommending us. Take Care.

Our thermostat wasn't working right. It was an older thermostat. When we moved into the house, we didn't notice that they had painted over some of the spots. Once we got moved into the house, the thermostat was sticking. They had it on a set schedule and we couldn't change it. So, we wanted a new one that was working. On the AHS website, they didn't have a spot for what I needed when I filed the claim. So I put down something that was close to a thermostat as possible. AHS needs to have a spot for others so that people can write in what they want when there's no specific item available.
Phil’s Good AC and Heating called me to set up the time. I told the tech on the phone what kind of thermostat I needed so he didn't have to go buy one or to make a second trip out. It was nothing major. I could go to Lowe's, buy one and put it on myself. But I wanted it professionally done. The technician came out and changed it. He did what we asked to do. When I used AHS for the first time, the company that they sent at that time was very difficult. I took off a day to be here for the repairman. He never showed up. When I finally called the company said that the guy called in sick that day and he'd be there the following day. I hadn't planned on taking off a second day. He came the next day, opened the refrigerator, and said that this would be the part that I'd need and was out the door in less than two minutes.
According to the website, parts come quickly. But then, for me, it took almost a month for that part to get here. When it came, it wasn't the right part. But then again, the guy didn't look at anything so it was another week that went by. It resolved the issue for about an hour, but then it became a problem again, so they needed another part. Our most recent claim with AHS was for the plumbing. They assigned a tech to come out. The tech found the issue and fixed it. It was quite simple. Our experience with the contractors was fantastic. But on our air conditioning issue before that, I was not happy. What we did was I called American Home Shield, they contacted somebody. We had no air and it was in the hottest part of this summer so far. It took two days for them to contact the contractors. So, that was two days sitting without air conditioning. It took a while, like two days before the contractors contacted me. Then four days later they came out and then they said they had the part in stock and they would get back with me.
When they got back with me and said, “It's gonna be three to four days,” I was like, “Are you kidding me?” I was in the house all day because I don't have a vehicle and so, after four days, I called and the rep said, “You didn't fill the paperwork out.” I said, “I sent you an email stating, ‘Yes, let's get those done,’” Because they send emails out. But I didn't click a button, which I didn't realize ‘cause I'm not into that too much. I was supposed to click a button and accept, but I sent an email. They didn't take the email because I didn't click the button.
Finally, after the fifth day, the contractors came out and they fixed it. They just really didn't try to help their customers. I had talked to other air conditioning people and they said, “We would’ve brought you like a room air that you could put room to room, so you wouldn't be in the heat.” Those people didn't do it. So, I was not happy. If I ever have air conditioning issues, I don't want those people to come out. I complained to American Home Shield too. But they said, “It's in their hands.” Basically, they threw it in the contractors’ hands. I didn't get any response from anything. So, in December, ‘cause I didn't renew, I was thinking of looking for somebody else just because of that. Other than that, we've had no problems with American Home Shield.

I called Home Shield again and they sent some other people out. These people got some great duct tape and taped together my swamp cooler. The valve was stripped and they fixed it. The next day, my heater was broke. We couldn't even turn it on because whatever the people did to the valve to turn it on and off was totally broken. It was gone. We burnt up that week and it was a heatwave. I called and called and tried to get somebody to come out and fix the unit again. Even if I had to pay another $100, it didn't matter. But I didn’t want the same people to come back out.
There were two air conditioning companies that came up to my house for the air conditioner. One was absolutely excellent. As for the other one, I wouldn’t even do a recall to have them come back to my house. They’re going to people’s houses and they’re doing a horrible job. They’re rushing off. But I will have Josh, the tech, back every time. As a matter of fact, I really don't want anyone else back if I have any more problems with my air conditioner at all. Josh was the best. He was very knowledgeable and was on-time for his business. He did his job and didn't rush. I talked to him wanting to know what was wrong with the unit. He took care of everything. He found the issue, which was a burnt water heater, and he did a replacement.

I’ve had American Home Shield off and on for probably 10 years. I purchased it when I bought the house but I've only lived in that house for two years. The claims process itself is fairly easy and it's actually getting the technician or finding the contractor to come do the work that's the problem with AHS. You can go online and set up the service claim, so that's not a problem at all. It's an availability issue, and sometimes that's geographical. So, I've had AHS in large metropolitan areas where there is an abundance of contractors but then, I’ve had it in Arkansas and it's been harder for them to find people to have under contract. Even in larger areas, the contractors change frequently probably because of their reimbursement. So, I'm not sure what could be done about that unless they're gonna change their entire process.
Of the home warranties that I've used, American Home Shield is probably better as far as their coverage. They're all equally bad though and in the end, I probably can't think of too many times where I've benefited from having them. It's more probably a break even situation most times but I do keep it. It's reasonably priced and if there is something that completely goes out, they'll pay towards replacing some of it. But overall, none of them is great. The AC unit was running and the thermostat said it was maintaining the temperature but it didn't feel cool and it was humid in the house. I was also noticing a lot of condensation in the house. Atchley Air, the contractor, had worked on it last year so I had them come out and make sure that it was functioning properly.

American Home Shield is there when I need them. But companies nickel-and-dime you for just the littlest things and then they make it seem as though they're really offering you something. If I compare American Home Shield to the last time I had a home warranty, they go the nickel-and-diming now. You call them up for them to fix something and you cross your fingers that the technician doesn’t hem and haw about and say that it's not under the warranty and charge extra. AHS called someone out for garage and the fee was $75. Then the technician put something on that I could have put on myself but he charged me 80 more dollars.
The first technician who came out for the AC was nickel-and-diming me. He really didn't fix it. He didn't even check it. Instead, he just said that there was nothing that he could do and just to call them back when it would happen again. That was worth $75. But when you call them back within a certain amount of time, you don’t have to pay another $75. Then the second guy came out and I showed him the video of how I turned it off and turned it back on and all of a sudden it was working again. He said that it was our condenser. So at least, this second guy went out there and took care of it. Now, all has been taken care of and I don’t have to worry about my air conditioning going down in the worst parts of the heat in Las Vegas at 118 degrees.
I'm still satisfied American Home Shield. If you call after hours, there is a phone prompt that will prompt you into pushing some buttons. Then they will say what the claim is for and you push 1, 2, or 3. That’ll go out to the nearest retailer that takes care of it. That retailer will reach out to you and then you'll be notified either by your phone or email of the progress. That helps out when things go out and it’s after hours.
We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

They would tell me a contractor would be out within a couple of days. Valley Pro Appliance Repair was sent out and the tech was great. The washing machine has been excellent since then. We have three little kids and the washing machine is essential so the repair greatly impacts us. The whole experience was great.

The control panels on the microwave and the oven both went bad. The technician from GE came and ordered the microwave control panel. He told us that the oven needed to be replaced since they don’t make those control panels anymore. He forwarded it to American Home Shield. The guy came a week later and asked where the part was. I said that it wasn't here. He said that he requested it and I said it wasn’t here. He got to his car, came back and said that it hasn’t been shipped and to let him know when we receive it. We never received it.
A month went by and I called AHS. They assigned another company and when the technician came, he told AHS that the control panel of the microwave would take too long plus it's too expensive and it would be better to replace the oven. They don't make the control panel anymore. I waited two weeks. I called AHS and asked what was going on, They said that they have their own parts department and they were gonna look for it. So, I said that it has been over five weeks now. Two technicians have recommended the oven to be replaced and they have not done that yet. They were making me wait for a part for a microwave and it was gonna be over two months by the time they receive it. That was not right.
AHS found the part for the microwave and they claimed they found it for the oven. So, they sent it to the second technician. Two months and two days later, he was putting the control panel for the microwave. AHS sent him the part for the oven incomplete. They said that they would send the cover for it that showed the buttons later. Three days later, AHS sent the wrong panel. Finally, after the appliance guy checked, he called them and explained. Even though they emailed that the oven needed to be replaced, AHS did not budge until a week later. They said that they would contact me for my option.
AHS called and offered me $700 on a $3,000 double wall, stainless steel oven. Then he looked and said that they made a mistake. It was a double door and they did not know that. Then, they did not have it on their website. They offered me $1,500. I told him that the cheapest one would cost 2,299 without installation. It was a disgusting service. Plus, you wait on the phone an hour. I waited for the department of appliance for 3 hours and 10 minutes. We’re still waiting for the check for the double wall oven and it has been three months. I own three properties. I cancelled AHS for this one and I’m gonna cancel the third one. I saw their commercial on my phone that they recommend better home warranty but they are terrible. The service is way below standard and they treat people like they are liars and garbage.
I’ve been with AHS since 2008 and they used to be much better. They used to answer the phone right away, and replace things or repair them within a week or two at most. They even told me that if their technician has gone too long, I can find my technician. They’ll reimburse me. This was 10 years ago and they’re a totally different company. They know what they’re doing. They don’t give a damn about the consumer and they’re trying to make as much money as possible. This is ridiculous. They’re out for themselves. It is a scam and they called me to ask why I cancelled. I told them why.
We do apologize for the inconvenience and and we did not intend on this issue to cause cancellation. We appreciate your feedback and providing your experience in which will help improve further customer experience. Thank you and Have a great week.

American Home Shield has fast and friendly service. Any time I put in a claim for anything, they get back to me no longer than 24 hours. I had a problem that was some kind of a wire that was loose. The guy repaired that then the AC went out days later. He said that something about the panel and box got wet so he inserted some screws in there to keep it from the wind flying it open. It’s been working fine since. I just wish you can be able to explain your problem a little more in depth versus doing a generic drop down box.

Also, he told me that I could track it myself because he let me know that they were putting it in and I'd be able to track the part. When he came out, he was done in like 15 minutes. He was excellent. He showed us what the problem was and he told us what to do to prevent the problem. I already recommended American Home Shield to everybody who owns a house.

I've used the company for almost 10 years and I've never had a bad experience with them in all these years. They're always very good and they get right on it. I'm a real estate agent also and I use it for clients when I sell a house too. I used American Home Shield on my rental property and a month ago, I thought some of my electrical outlets weren't working. When the fellow came and tested them though, it turned out that there wasn't anything wrong. He was very good. It took a week or so for the guy to come out, but it wasn't an emergency, so it was perfectly fine.

Surface Pro Heating and Air was top-notch, very professional, very helpful and extremely keeping in contact with me. It took them 19 days to get the part because they could not get ahold of American Home Shield. Because you have to sit on hold for an hour and a half to get anything done with those people. When they had to call and order the parts for my air conditioner, this woman had to sit on the phone with them waiting for almost two hours to get it ordered. It took another seven days for American Home Shield to get the thing ordered or give permission for them to order it.
I'm extremely dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I would not recommend them to my dog. It’s that bad. I was going to cancel them. Then I got to look at the contract, and they renewed my contract without a signature and without my name. I don't like them. The website was a complete fiasco from beginning to end. I’d rather talk to a person in a heartbeat. They said that they had to cut that because of the pandemic, but they should have someone available to talk on the phone.
We do apologize for any inconvenience pertaining to your air conditioner. We would be more than happy to assist in resolving your issue. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

I have a contract with American Home Shield and I pay a $75 deductible. They have contractors that come to the home and fix the problem. I had a contractor come up to my home and all he did was look at the problem. No tools. He said that he couldn't fix it and walked away. He hadn't even got under the sink to see if he could fix it. I filed a complaint with American Home Shield and told them that they took my money prior to them sending the contractor out and this guy didn't do anything. They said they would call me back but they never did. I've been calling them back to try to get the situation fixed. So far, nothing.
Customer service sucks. They are one of the worst to deal with because if you're a business and you say you're gonna call a customer back, call them back. Don't leave them hanging. Then the wait is unbelievable. My cell phone is counting the hours, so I just set my phone down and waited for two hours for two days. Aside from them not giving me back my $75, I want my money back.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I'm glad that I have American Home Shield. It takes a lot of the burden off of having to worry about replacing the item. It's well worth the money. Last year, the contractors came out a couple of different times. I had an issue with my stove that they took care of for me. They had to order some parts, the parts came and they replaced it. Then I had an issue with my washing machine. The same thing, they came out, diagnosed what was wrong with it and had to order parts. Then when the parts came, they were able to come out and take care of the problem for me on both occasions. Everything was really good - the service end of it, the technician and providing a safe environment for me in my home, the way he presented himself and then the installation of the product and making sure everything was completed. All in all, the contractors did a very professional job and I was happy with the outcome. I have no complaints.

For our recent claim with AHS, the contractors handled it pretty well. We found out what the situation was. There was something that the builders didn't tell me, that I had a knob control for the outside faucet. It wasn't working at the time. We didn't know that there was a knob control upstairs in the other bathroom. The contractor was able to show me where it was and what we had to do. It was simple. We had another problem regarding the doorbell and that was corrected too. The guy came, fixed it and got it safe for us. So, everything worked out well.

The garage door malfunctioned. I pushed down the button when I was leaving and it came down sort of sideways. I got out of the car and came through the front door. I looked and one side was down and there were two inches on the other side where it didn't come down. I connected the automatic garage door and I put my foot on it and pushed it down because I had to go to work. With the garage door out of commission, it was a pain in the neck when I went to the store and it would have been a pain in the neck every single day coming home from work because that's how I come in.
I called Home Shield and I was on hold for a very long time, which I wasn't very pleased with, and I had to wait. I was given a time when to expect the contractor and they met that expectation. I got a call later that day and the contractor made an appointment. When the tech came, he said it was off the track and when it came down and had that problem, it burned out the motor because it was trying to close. The tech was awesome and everything has been great since they came out.

They had asked me specifics about the water heater that I was calling about. I told them the size and gave them the serial number so they could verify other information. They showed up with a similar new one so that when they verified that it needed to be replaced, they were able to take care of it at the same time. However, it seems like when something goes out on a Friday, you got Saturday and Sunday that the contractor can't come out because they won't come out on the weekends. Submitting a claim was easy because it's just either online or a call. When I did it, it was online. However, Home Shield's service was better before they started requiring the copay right out front. A year ago they sent someone, I paid $100 copay but the person never did the repair. I was out of $100 and I still had to pay someone else to get to repair. I wasn't pleased about that and considered switching to another company just because of that. This time it wasn’t the case, but if it happened on this one, I definitely would have switched.
The reps couldn't explain it. The plumber said it was some damage or something caused by the people, because it’s a rental property. But when I looked, there was no visible damage. It was just a leaky faucet and there was no way you can break a single thing because everything was intact. It was an internal component that was worn out, but the plumber said what he said, and then it was never fixed. I still had to come out of pocket to replace the whole faucet set. But other than that, Appliance Service Masters was knowledgeable. When they came out, they identified the problem. They had the mask on. And then, they ordered the parts and they came back in and troubleshot the whole system there to figure out what was wrong. The first part came in within a week and the second one, they had to order another piece that didn't come in. It was about two weeks total for everything and I was fine with it.

I got American Home Shield in June and the process for submitting a claim went well. I had a plumbing issue and I called them. It took about two days for the technician to come out but he was great as well as the service. AHS could improve on speeding up the turnaround time of someone coming out. Also, they put a fair amount of detail in there but there are still some things that they could explain a little bit clearer such as what they cover. I live in South Florida and here, our air conditioners run all the time so sometimes they do stall out. AHS doesn't necessarily explain exactly that that particular process is covered. When I was initially buying this warranty, I asked if they could offer more discounts if I have multiple properties I'm going to consider taking out warranties for. That would be something that would probably get more customers to sign up.

The techs had to call American Home Shield to make sure that the part that needed to be replaced was completely covered. They also had to clarify whether I needed to pay for them to show up. That was cleared up and though it took a while, things were really easy. The whole repair came to be about $800. It was good that our refrigerator got fixed. But trying to get a hold of somebody at AHS is almost impossible. I know that they are the number one rated warranty company, but that drags them down and if I wasn't retired, I would cancel. For my last claim, I spent an hour and 34 minutes the first time on hold, then they hung up on me. Hours later, that was another hour and a half hold time. The contractor came for our air conditioner. They came quickly and fixed the leak. They put Freon in and left. We paid our deductible which is probably extra for the Freon we had to pay other than what American Home Shield paid. I didn’t have issues with that particular claim but we got a new furnace with them on March 4th and we had issues with that. I called them about nine times because the furnace wasn't working properly. AHS went with a company in Morgantown, a company in Uniontown and a company in Bethel Park. The Bethel Park one was the one that installed it, which I could not understand why they didn't continue to stay with them. I was wondering why they would send somebody else from another company because that company is not going to wanna deal with somebody else's mistake.
My husband and I dealt with that for probably a month and a half, going back and forth. I was exasperated on that one. Finally, I got some sort of supervisor and told them they needed to get somebody here, fix this and be done with it. It was closer to two months when we got it fixed. So, that's not good but it's working fine now. Other than that, AHS is great.
When I make claims, I wanna speak with somebody and when I call, the people are foreign. So I get very exasperated because a lot of times, you can't understand them. They talk too fast. I told the girl from Georgia that I was irritated because there was one who hung up on me from another country. I told them that I couldn’t understand them and asked them to push me on to somebody else. He hung up on me, so I wasn't happy about that. I wish that AHS would bring them back into the States so people can understand them. Also, when we first started with AHS, it was $44 a month on the first year and then, it was 50 something. Now, it's up to 62. They only raise this when your anniversary comes up so we must be going on our third year. We’re considering going elsewhere with different pricing. That was $20 from two years. So, we'll probably change in June.

The electrician came out and he said I just need to throw it. It was a little hard to do. I couldn't do it myself. I didn't know you could push it that hard so he showed me. What their guy said was that they put in parts without replacing the seals and things. He said that when they put in those parts, they jammed them in over existing stuff, which caused it not to work. So, the washer was still acting up after both Exclusive and Atlas.
After Atlas came out, and I called American Home Shield for repair, they assigned Exclusive. I was very upset because I expected Atlas to come back out again. As a matter of fact, Atlas called me to reschedule. They called me maybe a week afterwards, which is not like them. When they were servicing the machine, they would call me probably the same day that they got a notice from American Home Shield. But about a week afterwards, they called and I told them, "American Home Shield assigned another company. I even called American Home Shield regarding the reassignment because I was surprised that they did that." At the time, the claim was for the refrigerator and the washer. When AHS reassigned Exclusive, they left the refrigerator with Atlas. So, I was confused myself and I called them about the assignment. I did call them because I was perplexed that they had made the re-assignment.
As for Fort Bend, the gentleman's overall posture was such that I assumed he was the owner. I asked him if he was the owner, and he said he was. He was very polite and very professional. With COVID, I decided to ask the contractors to just come to the back of my house where the laundry room is rather than go all the way through my house, which had been the case, and he was very accommodating.
He said he didn't have any information on what had transpired with the washer prior. From what I could tell, he turned the washer up to look under the bottom of it. That was when he said he saw that they had put in new parts, but they had not replaced some of the other stuff that should have been replaced. Exclusive had told me when they came out that in order to fix the washer, it would require a total rebuild of the washer. I was surprised that when he came back, he did the work so fast. He had told me before that with the work that was needed, it needed to be totally taken apart.
Also, when they sent a senior person out with Exclusive, I didn't like the person. He was the owner. I told him that not only was the machine leaking, but it was making a lot of noise when it washed. I said, "This Whirlpool is supposed to be a quiet washer. You can barely hear it." I also told him it makes a lot of noise when it's draining. He said, "Well, that's the way they are." I said, "Sir, I have had this washer for 14 years. This washer does not make noise when it drains through the drain." He must have told me at least three times that that was the case. I didn't care for Exclusive.
I have to give credibility to the fact that I actually assumed that American Home Shield was checking up on its vendors. They paid for parts for Atlas, and then they still had trouble with the machine. So they decided they weren't gonna send Atlas. I've been in business myself, so I know how that works. American Home Shield was doing what they had to do, in my opinion, because they were spending money and it wasn't working, and they needed to find out what was going on.
For my part, I was highly inconvenienced because of the number of calls that I had to have. But in the end, American Home Shield did what they had to do for me. They had to do what they had to do for their business as well. One of the things that I've noticed with American Home Shield is they try to send out really good contractors. It takes a lot to do that, so I just thought they were checking up on their contractors to see whether or not they were doing the quality of work that is expected of them. Overall, I'm happy with American Home Shield.

The Polaris pool pump was spraying water all over and I couldn't run my pool because water was spraying out of the pumps. I went online to submit a claim with AHS and when their website worked, it was fine. But it took several tries to finally log on and it was really a very bulky thing. It didn't load your information multiple times and it took almost a day and a half to get through. Then, they let me know that the contractor would be out within 24 hours. The fellow from Breakthrough Pools who came out was pleasant and said it was not the first time that he saw that situation. He also had the part since I told them when they called what the problem was and since the repair, everything has been fine.
Other than that, I've recently dropped American Home Shield because they didn't carry through with anything. I had an air conditioning unit and they brought a technician out. The guy screwed around with it then all of a sudden, we had a big venting and all my Freon was vented into the air. He said he was not sure why that happened and that he thought it was my compressor. But now, all the Freon was in the unit and it was almost $1,000 worth of Freon. The guy noted it and said that he couldn't do anything about it until I put in a request to American Home Shield. He also told me that it would take a week or two because that's how long they're taking these days.
But it was 100 degrees in northern Texas and I couldn't wait, so I had to tear out the air conditioning unit and replace it. American Home Shield contacted me about a week and a half later and said that they'd buy me out. I asked how much I would get and they said $250. I was flabbergasted. They'd give me $250 against the $7,000 replacement. Then they said that if I followed these forms and fax, they'd give me the $250 within seven days. But that was a month and a half ago and I still haven't gotten it. So when it came time to renew, I told them that I'd go with a higher rated guy, which was Amazon Home Warranty. They have a lower price for the same coverage and has a better rating. Also, even if they weren't cheaper, I would go with them anyways since going without air conditioning for a couple of weeks waiting for American Home Shield to do something sucked because you couldn't get a human being.

My refrigerator wasn't working in January and I put in the claim. The contractor came out and said it was fixed. But the same problem happened intermittently and then it got worse. I put in another claim in July. The contractor came and said they had to order parts. I had to wait. They said it was fixed but it wasn't. Kept happening. I called American Home Shield and they sent another company out. They said that the first company might not had known what they were doing. It didn't make me feel very good.
I spent my money on paying another person to come out. The person they sent said he needed to order more parts so I called the American Home Shield back. They said that they would have to wait and see what happens. I still haven't heard anything and I haven't had a working fridge since July. It works, but my food goes bad quickly and the ice maker is totally broken. I'm looking at fridges now and I have to buy a new one because I can't just have no fridge for months, and it's getting increasingly worse.
The issue is I wait two hours to talk to somebody, to get through on the phone. When I get on the phone, I usually get someone that just repeats what I'm saying and they just read from a script so that's not helpful. Then from there, they say that I have to wait but I don't know what I'm waiting for. AHS needs to better train their people to deal with their consumers' needs. They also need to be more attentive. A refrigerator is a big deal. I shouldn't have waited almost two months and not have a working refrigerator.
With this situation, I'm very dissatisfied with them as a whole. But some of the contractors who’ve been out have been good. The plumber and the HVAC were great. It depends on who they send because some contractors are awesome, some are horrible, and AHS has been horrible with dealing with this. If it goes well and I have no complaints, they're fine. But if I have a complaint, they don't help. I put in a complaint to the Better Business Bureau on the 17th and they haven't even answered and acknowledged it yet. When I spoke to someone on the phone, they told me I couldn't talk to anybody else or to a supervisor. That was the highest that I could get. I put names so they were clear on who I spoke to.

GE Appliances came out the first time and I paid them $100. Then the tech said that he was gonna have to order a part and that it might take a little bit because they've been on backorder due to everything going on. Once we got the part, he told me to give GE a call back to schedule a time for them to come out. We got the part and I called to set up an appointment for them to come back. We had another technician come out for him to tell us that they were still waiting on a part, which I did not know of. He said that we should be getting that part by the end of the day. My husband asked for a tracking number of some sort. He said he did not have that, but that we should be receiving it.
We ended up receiving a second part and I called to set up another appointment for them to come out. When I called last week, I spoke with a lady and she said they were still waiting on another part. I told her that the GE technician said we should only be waiting on one more part. She said, "No, I show you should have a total of three parts and it should be delivered today," which was the same day that I'd already gotten the other part. She told me to call back whenever we got the part. This was last Friday and we still haven't gotten the part.
The lady called me back from American Home Shield and was wanting me to change my time because she had a scheduled time for a GE technician to come out today. I told her that was weird because they said we were waiting on another part, and I haven't put in anything for anyone to come out. She said it showed that we received all the parts, which I knew we had, even though they were telling me that we hadn't received all of our parts. Then she said that a GE technician wasn't available today. But then she said that they would have a technician come out between 8:00 to 5:00 tomorrow. So I was expecting them to come out tomorrow. So that is where we are at right now.
When I first did the claim, I sent the ticket online. The second time, I called American Home Shield. The lady that I spoke with called GE herself and set up for the technician to come out. The third time that I called them directly last week. Overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been pleasant so far. But I personally have not been very happy with the service that I've gotten from GE over the phone. It's been a real mess. It was really unprofessional and kind of all over the place a little bit.

Central Jersey contacted me and made the appointment to come out on the same day. The technician corrected the issue on my AC. He also wore a mask and he insisted that I wear one. This was the only time actually I used American Home Shield and everything worked well. I've had them for several years.

My AC was leaking because the coils were frozen. It leaked quite a bit into my floor and everything. Qualified Service Systems was sent out. The first technician was very congenial and knowledgeable. He went around the back, which was so nice of him to do rather than trekking through the house. He answered my questions. He came the first day but because the coils were frozen, they had to thaw out. He said I had to turn the unit off.
A different technician came the following day and he actually fixed the unit. He was able to do so since it was already thawed out. He was able to find out exactly what was wrong with it. He was very helpful, informative, and did his job very professionally. Apparently, I have a small leak somewhere in the back and the gentleman couldn't tell me exactly where it was. It could be underground and that was something that he wouldn't be able to take care of. But the unit needed to have Freon so he put Freon in there. I had to do the same thing last year. It's developing into a yearly thing. But the tech took care of it and the AC is running fine so the problem got fixed. And at least I know to look out for it.
I am very satisfied with American Home Shield. I had a washing machine totally blow out on me and the cost of repairing it would have been more than the cost of getting a new one. They got me a new washing machine and this one now has a stainless steel barrel. The other one didn't. The quality of the washer is of the same category and the same cost but it's actually better than what I had before. The only one that I didn't do with American Home Shield was replacing a hot water heater. It was gonna be extremely expensive to replace the whole thing and it was gonna be a lot of out-of-pocket that I thought was too much. I opted out of it but the home warranty really paid me back for everything I spent.

The blower motor on our AC quit working and it didn’t blow any air. It took the tech from A & R Complete Service three days to come out. When it's 110 degrees, that's a little slow. It could’ve been a little bit faster. Other than that, their communication and professionalism were good. He had the mask on and he fixed our AC. So, it's working. It is really hard to reach American Home Shield on the phone if you have a question. I tried and tried and the wait was 40 minutes to an hour. That’s going on two or three times now.

Our upstairs air conditioning went out so I submitted an online claim with Home Shield. When you call them, you have to wait forever to finally be able to talk to somebody and a lot of times, you have to have them call you back because the wait is so long. The website was very easy to use and within 24 hours, they said that M&Holmes should be calling to schedule an appointment.
The year prior, we had the downstairs air conditioning replaced and we had no out of pocket costs so when I had a $1,800 bill, I questioned it. We have a concrete walk outside and the contractor from last year didn't put what they call a pad down. They said that it wasn't required because it already sits on concrete. But M&Holmes said they require a pad and I questioned if it was a city or local code that requires it. They said they require it and I asked why was I paying for something that they're requiring and not by city or state local code.
I called Home Shield and all they did is call the contractor again and they told me the same thing. I ended up sucking the cost because I would have to get a second opinion and they may or may not say that say it's required or they have to order the parts again. And we had already gone all summer without an AC upstairs. I paid the $1,800 cost which was like a switch outside, the pan for the upstairs attic space, the evaporator, and some $700 for a ventilation duct modifications. At the end of it, it works great but I still question why I had to pay for a pad.
We do appreciate your feedback and providing details of your experience pertaining to your air conditioner. We do apologize for the inconvenience and would love to discuss this issue further. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you in this matter.

The faucet was broken and the garbage disposal was leaking and needed to be replaced. The guy from Accent Plumbing did a great job. He had the parts to fix the problem and he did it. He was in and out quickly, and everything seems to be working fine. But in the beginning of this claim, I was extremely dissatisfied because the first plumber that they sent out just looked at it and said that he didn't think there was a problem. He said that he would get back to me and he never did. There was no communication and so, I contacted American Home Shield again and let them know what was going on. They wanted to send the same guy out but I didn't want him coming out. So, they arranged for this other plumber and in the interim, the second problem came up. The leak under the sink with the disposal. So then, we had two problems.
I mentioned to AHS that it was inappropriate that they were charging me twice especially since the first thing that they charged me for didn't happen and that was a whole lot of back and forth. Getting that figured out was a lot of aggravation but in the end, AHS agreed that it should be a single claim. They refunded the original charge of $75. So once that was cleared up, I was very happy with the coverage and how it was handled, how quickly it was done and the service that the technician provided. In the end, I was very satisfied. Once they got it cleared up, I was totally fine. I’m curious though that I just renewed with American Home Shield and they charged me $692 for the renewal. If I were to go online and do this as a new customer, it was $100 less. I tried calling several times and I wound up on hold for a ridiculous amount of time. Then, I had to hang up because I've got to get on with the other things I'm doing.

We had a guy come out and look at our microwave. There weren't any parts that could be replaced in it so the whole microwave had to go. We were waiting for AHS to call us, and then we didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks. Then we tried calling and then that was when all the problems started happening with them trying to take forever to respond. We were on hold for five-plus hours to get ahold of the microwave people, get the microwave delivered out and find everything out. To get through to somebody, the answering machine would say that the wait time would be three hours or more. I was on the phone for four hours. Then my wife and my father were on hold forever. I never got through to anybody. My father did because he was driving back from Florida and had a six-hour drive. He said that he listened to that music the whole drive.
We tried to understand that due to COVID and stuff, some people were probably working at home and they were probably busy doing something else. But nobody is gonna wait for three hours on the phone, even two. But we had no other choice. It was very frustrating. Other than that, everything else with American Home Shield was fine. We had someone out to fix our dishwasher. Then our AC was fixed within a day and a half, which was perfect 'cause AC issues in South Carolina was a big no-no. It's the hottest state. Steinmetz always does a good job of diagnosing and repairing. The issue was not so much with them but with the equipment. The compressor was starting so hard. It made a horrific noise and was shifting the entire condenser unit. It moved at about a foot at the very last phase of this thing going out. Twice, it literally loosened and ripped one bolt right out of the frame. There was another company that came out and the rep was telling me there was nothing wrong with the AC. I've never heard of an air conditioning unit that starts the way this one does.
The AC was about a year old and the first year was perfect. It ran smoothly and when it started, you didn't even know it was coming on. On the second year, it just went pop. So, they brought out another unit with the same brand model. I told the technician when he came out to diagnose it. I was willing to pay an upcharge for a different brand unit. I just don't want a repeat of this same issue. There must be some issue with Goodman. I don't know what it is but my expectation is if it continues like this, it'll break eventually.
I was looking at a different company this morning. American Home Shield has been good and I understand that it’s a business and they’re gonna have to make money. Also, I don't know the relationship between American Home Shield and the companies they hire, and what the instructions are with those companies. But they will nurse things along as much as they can. It is understandable but sometimes, it's frustrating to the homeowner when that occurs. I've been in the repair/construction business my entire life and my approach has always been good quality.
Good craftsmanship just endears customers to you but if you put in quality equipment and do a quality job with quality materials that last, that word of mouth is like gold. So, they should put in quality equipment. There will be no issues and the company would eventually reap the reward of doing it right the first time instead of Mickey Mousing around with low end stuff. People should consider advertisements if they're looking into home warranties because there’s a lot of hype in it. So, it all looks good and shiny on the front end but you don’t take note of the small print stuff until you're faced with it. I'm not totally dissatisfied with AHS. They’ve come out and repaired things and it's been okay. But this AC thing has been a sour grape for me. It's hard to be objective sometimes and my subjectivity is probably based on this AC issue.

It's really simple to get a repair set up. You just put in on the AHS website what you have troubles with and you just go in. AHS makes up a case and then the very next day they tell you who's gonna come out and see you. That company contacts us and makes up a time when they can come out. But it's different when they're doing the work. American Home Shield is getting companies from everywhere and everybody is different. Some do great work and then you're not sure about some. If they say that they're coming, they need to come.
The last guy we had for the garage door was wonderful. Our garage door wouldn't work and the guy came on time. He fixed it and did a great job. The garage door is working beautifully now. So I was happy that him. But my experience with one before him to help us with our furnace was a struggle and he frustrated the hell out of me. He was an older gentleman. He was really scared because there was a lot of rain so he called me at the last minute and wanted to cancel out. We had a lot of rain in our area but it ended. We were trying to get our cooler working. If you're gonna do it, you gotta be able to handle what was going on. Then he told me that he was gonna come back ‘cause he wasn't done and then he didn't finish right. I'm done with American Home Shield and I'm not gonna renew.

The gentleman that was here the first time was for my dryer. His attitude was really nasty. When I came to open my door for him, he told me I needed to move out of the way. His whole demeanor and attitude were really funky. So, he did what he was supposed to do. All this stuff had gotten all over the place, and he just kinda left. He didn’t leave me any receipt or paperwork. I just happened to go back to the door. He was getting in his truck. I said, “Sir, aren’t you gonna let me know what it is I need to do?”
He didn’t tell me what I needed to be getting when I go to Home Depot and he didn't let me know whether he'd be the one that would be coming back to fix it. I was thinking they keep that kinda stuff on their truck when they come and service people's homes. I wasn't realizing that I had to go purchase the piece. That was the case when I called in the order. They should’ve told me that, and I could’ve had it ready when he got here.
I had to go to Home Depot. So, when I came back, I called the man and see if he could put it on. He said, “All you gotta do is snap it on there.” I said, “You know what, since you're here, go ahead. You do it. I don't know how.” Then he just left that mess and all that kinda stuff all over the place. I called back to complain on him. I didn't like his services. Other than that, when I called for my air conditioner, the gentleman rearranged his schedule to make it more convenient for me because I had to go to work. He was very nice, pleasant and professional, and he did what he was supposed to have been doing. He knew what he was doing.

From my experience, it appears that American Home Shield is a really good deal. They cover all your appliances for 60 bucks a month. I paid the 100 bucks service charge and they came and worked on my AC twice. Once, I've replaced a motor. The refrigerator, they fixed as well. The guy that fixed it was very nice and he seemed very knowledgeable.

My claim with American Home Shield where they sent out Greenway went very well. The representative of that company was extremely professional, helpful, kind, and friendly. I was totally satisfied. My tech was Shane and he was great. He was professional and friendly. My air conditioner was kind of a little warm so the tech put a pound of refrigerant in there. They resolved my issue. The air conditioner is still a bit warm but I'm curious if it's the nature of my old house. My house was built in 1935. Otherwise, everything's fine. And with American Home Shield, I like the peace of mind because I had to have a couple other things fixed. The price is good for the services rendered.

We filed a claim with AHS because our air conditioner went out. We went online and it was easy. They assigned Comfort Climate Mechanical but the rep did not click that he was on his way or give us a time window until after he called. But he did a good job. We originally signed up with AHS because it was just a free perk with our closing but we've been satisfied and thankful to have that benefit every time we've had to file a claim.

He didn't wait until the next day. It's been good with Home Shield for the most part. It would have been great if they had some kind of insurance which would help placing us in a hotel or something like that if we needed to leave the house because it's not safe, but it's okay.

The air conditioners were not functioning. I reported the issue through American Home Shield's website. I created a ticket online. It's easy to navigate their website and report the issues. At the same time the air conditioners went out, it ended up that storm came through and knocked the power out. So when the contracting company called to come, I said, "Well, our power's out. So it won't be restored 'til the weekend. So if I can reschedule it for Monday of the next week, that would be good." Instead of doing that, they canceled the whole thing. I had to call American Home Shield and then I had to resubmit another ticket. I wasn't charged another $100 but I had to go through and re-set up an appointment and had to wait another whole week. We were over two weeks with no AC in here. When a contractor finally came, he diagnosed the problem quickly and corrected the issue in a timely manner. That repair helped and alleviated the issue.
Overall, we have had some contractors that have come out for a few issues that did not fix the issue and were not easy to work with. I had someone come out for a furnace issue, and they didn't fix the issue. They change a bunch of parts that didn't need fixing because it didn't correct the issue at all. I had to have another company come out and address the issue because we had no heat in the house. And certainly, AHS wouldn't reimburse me for that. So I didn't have an issue there that I was not happy with at all. But the thing is if there is a contractor that's not well-servicing and I have another furnace issue, I don't have the ability to change to a different contractor. If I call AHS up and say, "We've had them out before, they did not fix the issue, I really don't want them to come out and look at it again," American Home Shield's unwilling to give you a different contractor. It seems I'm stuck with whatever they give me.

There was an electrical outlet that I had a problem with and making the claim was easy. But I'm having a lot of problems with my washer claim. I had to have a second opinion. The first person who came out from Steve Appliance didn’t completely fix it. I was still having an issue with it. So I called him about six times and he never responded. Then Home Shield said they were gonna send someone else instead because he didn’t respond to them either.
So they sent another tech from AMPM Appliance. He came out twice but there was still an issue. It has not been fixed. He said that there wasn’t anything wrong with my washer. I told him that I still have a problem because the water wasn’t draining. So he came out twice and he said he didn't see anything wrong with it. The third company that came out is Premier and they found that the belt was wrong. They’re the one I’m working with right now but it’s still not fixed yet. This has been going on with my washer since the end of June. Before, Home Shield was quick to respond and the problem was fixed. I had no problems before. But now, you're on the phone for at least an hour and a half to get a response. That’s been the average. It wasn’t like that before.
We do appreciate your feedback and providing your experience. We do not intend to cause any kind of inconvenience. We understand that being without a washer can be a hassle. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

I really like American Home Shield. They're really nice. One time I had an issue with my heat and it was really cold. They got right on it. But I wound up having to cancel because it was the builder's problem and not American Home Shield. I also had an excellent experience with American Home Shield regarding a recent claim I made. The garbage disposal wasn't working and something was wrong with one of my toilets. I called both claims in and it was easy. Their reps were amazing.
This was also one of the best experiences that I've ever had with someone coming to my house and doing some service work for me. The tech was amazing. He was very thorough and he wasn't creepy. He was very professional and he talked in a nice, even, and calm tone. He wore those covers on his feet. I was like, "Did y'all just sent Jesus out here?" I called his job and let them know how great he was. They said that he was a new employee there. Everything's been working perfectly.

The AC unit was was dripping water to the point where I was constantly mopping. It was not just a little bit of water, it was a lot of water. It was from the condensation of the unit. The contractor was able to fix it quickly and easily. They were super professional and really nice guys. They even had on little cute shoe things and masks. They were well-prepared to come in which I appreciated. They came in through the garage rather than through the house and took care of the problem. It didn't even take a half an hour.
I called American Home Shield not that long ago about a washer that I was having problems with. They sent out like a subsidiary of Sears and that guy was phenomenal. I had another home warranty prior to American Home Shield and they would send these people out that who knows where they were getting them. They didn't really wanna do the work so they would give me ridiculous reasons why they couldn't do it. I needed a water heater and they told me that I had to get my chimney cleaned first. I had a sink break and they told me that they needed not the whole thing, the fixtures. It took them over a week to do it and they wanted to send me a check so that I could go out and buy the fixtures and put it in myself. It was crazy. If I could do that, I wouldn't need any kind of home warranty. But I haven't had that happen with American Home Shield so I'm really grateful for that.
For the last thing that I called them for, they sent out a vendor that was top quality. The guy not only fixed my washer but also did a couple of extra things. He tightened a couple of things for me that needed to be done. He didn't say, "You need to call in and get another work order to get me to tighten this screw," which a lot of places do. They would say, "You're gonna have to call back in if that needs to get done." American Home Shield sends out good vendors. I've had to deal with them a couple of times and both times, I was really happy. I haven't dealt with them enough to say I'm over the top for them, but I would recommend them versus the one that I had before.

When I filed the claim, I gotta answer seven questions before getting to a person so I could discuss what's going on. The only thing that can be bad sometimes is the long wait to talk to someone, but I don't think there's anything a whole lot that AHS can do about that. If a lot of people are calling in, they only have so much personnel at certain times. The representatives were more than helpful. They were polite, nice, thoughtful and considerate. I asked how they were doing, with everything that was going on, make sure they were being safe. They appreciated that someone showed some concern about their well-being and they showed concern about my well-being too.
They bounced back and forth a couple of times between a couple of different people. I've had the plumber down on Palm Street. Then it was the first time that Gibby’s came here to do work and I was completely satisfied. The only thing they didn't do was to take the water heater, but I just told them I would dispose of it. I work in a sheet metal shop so I can take it to work and dispose of it and it doesn't cost me a penny. My only complaint is that we had to wait almost over a week for a new water heater to come in. What we did was to go over to my daughter's every other day to take a real shower or we heat up water in a pan and just wash out of the pan. That was okay for a short period. I definitely wouldn't wanna do it for any longer than we did. But that part might have been with everything that's been going on with the Coronavirus. They had replaced a water heater for me once before pretty quickly.
Gibby's had to leave once to get some parts ‘cause the one part that they were gonna just change from one water heater to the other was pretty broken down and the guy didn't wanna put it back on. They had to go over to Lowe's to get a new part. The guy went above and beyond what I would think the average person might have. It might have been an issue in the near future and he decided to take care of it then instead of just leaving it.
I should have asked him to do something while here although it would have been my cost. Apparently, from the original installation, there's no shutoff valve before the decoupler. The shutoff valve is actually after the decoupler so they had to shut off the gas for the entire house. I should have asked him how much extra would it cost to do that. That would have been my responsibility but I didn't think about it at the time. So sometime in the near future, I'm probably gonna have to get that changed because water heaters don't last forever.
Thanks for sharing your feedback and thanks for you patience with us as we went through the process to resolve your issue. Let us know if you need us, we're here.

The guy just came out and heard the racket that the system was making, and he found the cap had come off. He put it back on and the noise stopped. The weekend is easier to manage. If it had been during the week, I would have been disappointed. They were on time and they fixed the AC. Initially, they were thinking nothing was happening because when they arrived the unit was working fine and they were saying that everything looked to be okay. But I insisted no because it was not working. They checked and everything was good again. But when they closed and put the part together, the unit wasn't working. We were lucky that it failed on them as well. They then had to review and find the issue.
American Home Shield's service is getting better. Before, I had to be on the call for maybe two hours just waiting. But now there is an option to cancel the service requests and there is an option to select the service provider. That’s reducing the time that I spent on the phone if I report an issue. Before, it was a pain just to create a report and if I wanna cancel it because I want a different provider, that was impossible. Another thing I don't like is having to wait for a part from clients and it doesn't come right away. Sometimes they say they've requested the part but it's gonna take maybe 30 days. You have to wait that long until they find the part and they install it.
I would like to see American Home Shield improve on that. When you purchase the warranty you are not told that if they're fixing for example the stove or the fridge, you would be waiting for a part. Usually when you have a warranty, it’s because you don't have new appliances. When you sign on, you need to know what the limit is. If the part is not available, how long is that gonna take? They need to at least say, “Okay, if the part doesn't come in a week or two weeks or three weeks, we're gonna do something else.” If they don't tell you in advance that you'd be waiting, you're stuck and there is nothing else to do. You just have to wait for the parts.

This Monday (8/17) one of our A/C units went out during the heatwave in California, and I filed a service request immediately. And I thought I would get a contractor assigned quickly. I checked the website frequently, but there was no update. The family was suffering under a 100-degree heat, and I began calling the AHS number to find out what's going on. I quickly learned that every time I called the wait time was easily one hour. After an hour of hold I got to talk to a representative. They told me they would look into it and give me a callback the next morning. But the callback never came. Getting more and more frustrated, I kept calling AHS to find out what's going on. And I kept being told the same story. They're looking for a contractor and they would call me back. But the callbacks never came.
Finally on Thursday (8/20), after 3 full days of constantly calling AHS I got email that a contractor was assigned. I then called up the contractor first thing in the morning, only to find out that the earliest time they can come was 9/1, which was ten days out. I was so shocked to hear it because it meant the family had to go through another 10 days of misery in this weather. I then contacted an HVAC contractor that I knew from previous experience and he said that he could come as soon as the next day, but the only way he could come was if AHS allows him as an outside contractor. He is fully licensed and was willing to work with AHS and I was willing to pay him first and get reimbursed later.
To try to get that going, I called AHS twice on Friday (8/21). Every time, I was told that AHS had to try to find another contractor and that they would get back to me with an hour or two. For the first 2 calls, however, that callback never came. Completely fed up, I called AHS again. After waiting for one hour and 10 minutes, I got a hold of a representative. Again, I had to explain the whole thing from the beginning. Then he told me that due to the high demand in my area, it is nearly impossible to find a contractor and that he would approve an outside contractor immediately.
I thought that finally the issue would be resolved. But then after a brief hold, he came back and asked me whether I had one or two A/C units. I told him we have two. We have a two-story house and a dual-zone A/C. But we have family living and both floors and it's not like everyone can cram onto the same floor. His answer was AHS will not allow an outside contractor if there are two A/C units.
To say I was shocked beyond belief is an understatement. In short, AHS would deny a readily available solution and relief for us because we have two A/C units. It almost borders on cruelty and customer abuse. I asked what's the basis of such a policy and whether someone can exercise judgment to authorize the outside contractor given the shortage of contractors. His answer was a firm no. No one can authorize such a thing and if he did he would be held accountable for doing so. I'm realizing I may be in this pending state indefinitely while I cannot use a readily available outside contractor. And I already paid the contract fee ($100) promptly on Monday. I cannot help but feel that I am getting royally screwed as a customer.
AHS ultimately assigned another contractor, but I was told that the earliest time they can come out is 9/18! I'm looking at 1 month of misery to continue from the time it went out. Their contractor network cannot service us for one month, and yet they won't allow an outside contractor who's ready to go. It almost feels like we're being held hostage.
I am an extremely unhappy customer to say the least, and it stems from two things. One, the quality and the integrity of the customer support I ran into was appalling. I was met with inconsistent information, promises of callbacks that were never kept, and general unwillingness to help from the customer perspective. And two, the sheer callousness of not allowing an outside contractor in the midst of contractor shortage that AHS itself admitted. So apparently AHS feels it is OK to leave a customer in this state for one month or longer, suffering from the continuing hot weather. How that is acceptable to its customer, I have no idea.
Hi Sangjin,
I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved. I will be contacting you within the next 24 to 48 hours to follow up with your recent service request.

American Home Shield has gotten worse over the past five years. The contractors who represent them are not as good as they used to be. It takes a while to get a good contractor out and it takes time to get my issue repaired. There was one contractor, Accord Appliance, that just Mickey Mouses their job and use old parts that they have on their shelves to try to make an extra bit of money from American Home Shield. I told AHS not that I never want to see that contractor again.
Last summer, my air conditioning went out and they sent out a company that looked at it and it took four months to get my AC fixed. The company was screwing me around. They put in a request with Home Shield to have the repair approved but we didn't hear from them. After 10 days, I called the contractor directly 'cause I wasn't getting any feedback. Instead of contacting AHS, they just put in another request for the AC to be done. It just confused Home Shield as to what was taking place. They called me and asked if I had four air conditioners. I was very upset and I was looking for another insurance company. AHS should have more responsibility over their contractors and keep an eye on them.
I had a leak in my pool pump recently so I called up American Home Shield. I didn't get any response so I went through their website. They then sent me a text saying that a contractor will get a hold of me and set up an appointment. At first, two different techs out and both of them were horrible. The first came and looked at my pump for 15 seconds and said it wasn't grounded and therefore, they wouldn't repair it. The second one came and said that I had a hole in my pump. We never heard from the second tech again. Each time, I would call Home Shield and tell them to send out a new contractor. Most recently Upland Pool Supply came out, looked at it and found the part that was needed. He came back a week later and did an excellent job. Everything has been working fine since then.

I called up the numbers that I wanted to put in a claim and then they had an automated phone selection. They didn't have too many variables on the plumbing issues so I picked the one that applied best. When the company called, I explained it in better detail and there was no problem. All in all, it went smoothly. The people at Barker Services are outstanding. They were scheduled for the next day but they called me late in the afternoon and said, "Hey, do you care if we stop by now?" So that was pleasant. The guy was very professional and very friendly. He did an outstanding job and he fixed the issue. Having the warranty is like a safety factor. Somebody's issues can turn out to be very, very, very costly and it's comfortable to know that you have it.

I had an issue with my garbage disposal but High Priority Plumbing wasn't able to troubleshoot or pinpoint. They said I should contact another contractor. So I ended up fixing it myself. Since I paid for service that wasn't really provided, I don't know if I got any value out of the warranty because the service provider couldn't fix the problem. Then when I reached out back to American Home Shield about it, they said the case wasn't closed yet. So I'm just out of $100 and I don't have any recourse. I would have looked for a different provider. But since it was part of the purchase agreement that was selected for me, I didn't have a choice in the matter. So I would not use the service if I had the choice.

My most recent claim with Home Shield was for a water pipe leak in the basement where the washing machine is. That was really quick and I was surprised because we're still navigating through COVID19. The plumber from Advanced Drains & Plumbing Repairs came out and fixed everything in one day. But my first claim with tem took a long time. It was a long, drawn-out process for a hot water heater repair. Then, once I got connected with a plumber, he handled the claim and he charged me an extra $45. He told me it was "extra pricing” but the connector piece is only $30 from Home Depot.
I spoke to a representative from Home Shield but she was really hard to understand. Her accent was very heavy. And it could have been the time I called. I understand Home Shield outsources so everybody can have a great customer experience. But it was very difficult communicating with her. I asked if I could speak to someone else and hse said there was no one else to speak to. Also, I ask one specific question and it seems like their call center reps just read from a script, like an automatic response they're supposed to give me. I could have just typed my question in the inbox and waited for someone to respond if I didn't wanna speak to a person.

American Home Shield has always treated us well. They provide good and prompt service. My recent claim was for the repair of our dishwasher. We had to pay $100 fee which is normal for our plan and that was all I paid. The contractor was good. The washing machine needed a new pump and he had to order one. It took about 10 days then he came and installed it.

We just moved in and I called one of the numbers in the emails that American Home Shield sent me. We were having some issues with our washing machine and Amazing Plumbing was great. They were very helpful. However, it was not covered. The issue was the washing machine rather than the plumbing so they weren't able to do anything. Still, moving into a older condo, we figured it was a good idea to get a warranty. A friend told me they'd done American Home Shield in the past so I went with that.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

American Home Shield sent someone for our AC the very first time, and they were delinquents. It was horrible. They didn't finish the service. But after that, everything was 100% recommendable. The second people that actually did the job were excellent. Everything was so perfect. The tech was so helpful, so educated and he explained to us every time what he was doing. He also told us we need a part, and he had to go to five different stores in order to find it, so the experience was amazing with Home Shield and with them.
I went online to submit the claim to Home Shield. The AC wasn't working and me and my husband work a lot, so we discovered the night when we got home. The only issue that I had was I really didn't know what was wrong with the AC so the website was giving me too many options. So, I selected a couple options. But when they came, everything was perfect. Even when we set up the problem with the first people, it was good. The problem was when they got to the house, we were rushing out. We told them to call us 30 minutes in advance because work 10 minutes from my house. They didn't call. They didn't wait for me to get home which is 10 minutes. They keep calling me. “We have your address blah blah blah.” We even went to the best Better Business Bureau to report that company because I never deal with anybody like that.
I called Home Shield. I spoke with someone. The system went down but that person told me, “Hey, my system went down right now. There is nothing I can do.” Five minutes later, I received an email saying, “We set up your service with a different company. He’s gonna come this day.” It was awesome. We are really satisfied.

American Home Shield has always been really good every time I’ve had to use them. My claim for my air conditioner was great. I had my daughter call them and the gentlemen came out. He was very pleasant. He came in in the laundry room and took the things off the wall where you put the filter and the one below it. He squatted down, put his hand in there and pulled this dead rat out of there. Evidently, the rat came up through a hole in the floor and when the air conditioner turned on, it got this rat in the thing that goes around. It kept going around and that's what was making the racket. It made this part go sideways and he had to put that back. I hit the button and it was fine. He was such a nice gentleman.

In 2018, I had someone come out for my dishwasher and he said I needed a motherboard. He never came back. I called American Home Shield and they said they would call the person. But he never ever came back. I would call and sometimes people would say they would call me back and I would give them my name and number. They didn't call back. Then I would speak with someone and they would transfer me. When I was transferred, there were times when I was on hold for two hours and at one time, two and a half. I just put my phone on speaker and I did things around my home, so I would not really recommend American Home Shield to anyone. One time too, I was on hold so long that my phone died. It was an ordeal to connect.
When I was having problems with my range, I was telling one lady who was nice what happened and she said they would fix the dishwasher and because of all my troubles, she would give me a credit so that I would not have to pay the $100 deductible. I just got a bill for the $100 so I was gonna call them. The technicians I had were okay but the one who fixed the dishwasher was excellent. He contacted me and came out as promised. He was on time, very professional and knowledgeable. So, I didn't have any problems with the contractors. I've thought about canceling though and I'm still thinking about that. I’ve had AHS for four years and I've been paying every month. I have only used them three times but the whole thing with the stove was crazy. It had nothing to do with the contractors or the tech. It was poor customer service. I went a whole month without a range, and it wasn't acceptable.
The incident happened July 10th and I called the 11th. Some people would have been going off but I have good survival skills. We used different appliances like the air fryer and the microwave around the house so that we could continue to eat. They said we could use the top but I didn't feel comfortable doing that so I didn’t use it nor the oven. But the contractor who came out was good and I would recommend the company, Wright. The young man was very professional and courteous. He explained to me what was going on. He came to my house three times but the person who delivered the stove came just one time because he didn't have to repair it. But he was also very professional and knowledgeable. So, I've had no problems with both contractors.

American Home Shield seems to answer my service calls and I have no complaints with them whatsoever. I had an issue where the sink that the garbage disposal was connected to had a very slow drain and appeared to be clogged up. I looked at the pipes and saw no clog there. I determined it was something inside the garbage disposal. Since the sink was not draining properly, it hindered us from being able to wash dishes in a timely manner and keeping things clean and tidy. I initially called American Home Shield but then I went online and made the service call. They gave me Red Dragon as the servicing vendor and their tech did a great job. The customer service that we received was excellent with the last issue that we had. We got the information. The guy from Sears came in and noticed that the electrical burner on top was not working. He explained and he ordered the part. He said it would arrive in the mail and for us to place it in and if we had any problems, to call them. But it was easy. We received it and it's up and working.
The thing that I do not like with AHS is that I would go on the website sometimes and they want me to create a username and password. We can't be creating a username and password everywhere. It should be a very simple option to go online, put the contact number or address, and generate it that way versus creating a username and password, 'cause AHS still has to verify that it's the right location. Also, it was a delay for people to answer the phone. It was worse when COVID-19 started. I would be on the phone for over 40 minutes and nobody would pick up so that was frustrating.
The other thing I do not like is that the monthly rate is going up. Now, they're taxing for each visit that they come down so that's going sky high. I've been a member for so many years and it seems like there's no way for them to work around with customers. It's not like we use them often either. I understand that there are things happening, the weather is not good, other states are getting hit. But that is happening in that state, so why is everybody else has the fees go up? It makes no sense. I have multiple properties and I'm helping my parents with their property because they're retired and on a fixed income. AHS should give those customers some type of discount. They gave me a discount for one month, but all the other months, I'm paying $75 on top of what I pay for my home. I would not recommend them because the fees are outrageous. Compared to other commercials on TV and other people, I think it's time for me to start shopping around.

Sometimes, American Home Shield is okay, and sometimes, it's not. Right now, I have a warranty claim in for my hot water heater that’s out and I had them come. The people they hire let them know that the item is bad and a lot of times, I have to wait. I have to wait for them to get parts, get somebody to order it, and it can be another week or so before I get my hot water. That's the most annoying thing. Still, the issue got taken care of.
Also, everything went well with Sears. They did my refrigerator but I had to purchase one first and be reimbursed. I sent American Home Shield the information the same day and the reimbursement took about a month. As far as submitting a claim, I’ve done it both ways and I wanna talk to somebody. I’ve called and then I’ve done it online. Sometimes, I can't get a response online so I wait for somebody to call me.

The initial and continuing issue is my air conditioning is not cooling. It's been going on for a month now. The first gentleman Home Shield sent out said he doesn't do my type of air conditioning. They connected me with Koning and the guy came in and said he fixed it. A week later, the AC stopped cooling. It was registering 77 jumping to 84. I called them again, Koning came in again, and they said they fixed it. Sure enough, it went right back up. It just stopped cooling. Then they came in again on a Friday and the guy said he fixed it. He left at two o'clock. He set my thermostat at 75 and the indoor temperature on the thermostat read 77. At 5:30, it was still reading 77 and the thermostat was still set at 75.
I called him and I said it's not working and that it's going up. He said he was gonna do a follow-up and he hasn't showed. I turned the whole unit off and I took a picture of the thermostat so I can show them. This morning, I turned the thermostat back on and it's working. But I'd give it a couple of days and it's gonna shoot back up.
Home Shield has always been on point. The only thing I don't like is when I have to call customer service because the wait is like an hour. Then if I leave my telephone number, it's gonna take at least another hour or two for them to call back. But that's the only thing that disheartens me. I understand there's a process and I understand that they have a lot of customers. Home Shield is very professional, concise, and on point. And the individuals that I have spoken to from Home Shield are very knowledgeable and they understand. I'm very satisfied with Home Shield and I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I kept calling and waiting in line on hold with them for two and a half weeks. American Home Shield said the company never gave them a detailed invoice for them to even attempt to order stuff.
It wasn't American Home Shield but that first contractor that they used was terrible. They kept beating around the bush. I kept calling and calling and calling, and the other lady said, "I got this other company coming out. Wait for them. They won't be out for a week, but this is one of the best companies." I said, "Why didn't you send me one of your companies from the beginning? Why did you send me a nobody?" That's what I was upset about. But the other company came out and said what was broken. They called American Home Shield and they replaced it. My gift card came in four or five days later.

My dishwasher wasn't working and my refrigerator was leaking. They put it on one claim and American Home Shield handled the process fine. When the first contractor came, he didn't ring the bell. My garage was open and I happened to look outside and saw the truck. I was running downstairs to open the door then he said the job was completed and left.
I kept on trying to get in touch with American Home Shield saying that he didn't even come in my house. He didn’t even do anything. I've been on hold for two hours. I called back and I was on the phone for another hour. They sent out the same technician and this time, he made it. He came, looked and stayed here 10 minutes. He said both things needed a motor. Next thing I knew, American Home Shield called me and said they couldn't do the job because I needed new motors. I asked for another person to come out and that technician fixed the problem. It was a process and I was frustrated. I kept calling and calling and doing all kinds of stuff.
I have had good experiences with American Home Shield in the past and I was happy with them but this happened to be a bad experience. Usually, filing a claim is easy. I understand the wait because of COVID, but these are really long wait times. Before that, I didn't have to wait that long to get in touch with a claims person. I noticed it’s different this time and I understand that but the contractor was the one I had a problem with. I was upset about what happened with the first contractor they gave me. When he came the second time, he was on time. He said they'd go order the parts for me and to make sure I give them a good rating. I did thinking that they would come back and have the parts for me. But then I got called saying that American Home Shield was not going to replace the part ‘cause it was due to debris and soot. He wasn't even here that long. He didn't look at the machines to check it to even know that that's the problem.
There are some things that American Home Shield should do on the technician’s part just to make sure that they're following through with the right protocols. I don't think the contractor should be able to say he completed the job. If he found someone wasn’t home, he could’ve said that and not that he completed the work ‘cause that's what really got me mad. I don't understand why this person said that I didn't answer. Afterwards, I couldn't reach them anymore. They send something to you by email. I have the number to the company, but they give you a personal number to the technician. When I went back to that, that was gone.

I did the initial claim for my HVAC system through their online portal. Then they reached out to me and we set it up. When they reached out to me, we had to figure out who was available on their system to come out and do the work and the evaluation. I had to call Fast Heating and Cooling and set up a time for them to come out. Then they came out, did their assessment and they came back. I didn't have the greatest experience with them. Initially, I requested somebody that I was familiar with, Beverly Heating & Cooling Services. But American Home Shield didn't send them out because they told me that they weren't available in my area to be sent out and then that became untrue because they ended up going out eventually.
When I was talking to the guy from Fast Heating and Cooling on the phone, he was a little disorganized. But essentially, nothing was going to be covered and they gave me an astronomical price for everything that needed to be done. So I reached out to Beverly Heating & Cooling, gave them the situation, and they said they do things for American Home Shield all the time. When we talked to American Home Shield, they told me that there were certain things that weren't covered so I requested a second opinion. The rep was able to get Beverly Heating & Cooling to go out and check it out. Then they came back and gave their assessment of things that needed to be done and then it became covered. Everything's working fine now.
The few times that I had to call American Home Shield, I waited one time for about 40 minutes on the phone for anyone to pick up. The wait times seemed ridiculously long just to get to talk to somebody. When I needed to do a second opinion, I waited about 35 minutes for somebody to pick up. The first time that I talked to somebody on the phone after waiting 45 minutes, it was really hard to understand them on the phone because they had a very, very thick accent. So it ended up being not so helpful because I couldn't understand what they were saying. But the second time was a little bit better. The person has an accent but I could understand them much better.
