I like American Home Shield. I keep renewing with them every time I’ve moved and I’ve moved four times in five years. A couple of years ago, it was very difficult to get in touch with them. Now that I could do most of it online, it’s okay. But when I had problems with the plumber or the answering service, it was tedious because nobody would listen to what I was saying about the plumbing. I was very disappointed with the plumber for my blocked toilet. They said that they were open on Saturdays. They also said that if they thought it was urgent, they would call me. They didn't call me.

I made the claim on a Saturday morning and they didn't call me until 2 o'clock in the afternoon the Monday after after I had reached out to somebody else to take care of the problem. I had an overflowing toilet and they didn't think that was urgent. They were really ridiculous. They said nobody told them it was an emergency. Nobody asked me if it was an emergency. I just assumed that if I put in a claim and said, “Hey, I need you ASAP,” that somebody would respond.

Recently, Handy Dan's came out for the ice maker that wasn't making any ice. They were better than the plumber and their service was fantastic. However, I submitted the claim online and it's a little bit confusing. I have to look up my contract every time. It doesn't automatically go to my current contract. It's a little bit frustrating ‘cause I don't live at those other addresses anymore. It has an update because I have a contract with the address that I have but it keeps making me go through all of my other contracts to get to the one that I'm in now.

My air conditioner was not cooling down. It was a Thursday evening when I got home and it was really hot. We thought of leaving it for another day to see if it was something and then we turned it on again on Friday and it was not cooling. The lady from American Home Shield that I spoke to did get ahold of A-US Air Conditioning and told me that they would be here Monday between 8:00 and 5:00. She tried to expedite the order, but they were really backed up so they wouldn't be able to get me on the list until Monday. Somebody did come out that Monday.

A-US Air Conditioning of Texas was great as far as coming out at the time they said. They got up there and took a look at the AC. They figured out what the issue was. Then they said that they would go back to their office, submit the part that was not working properly, and then they would let us know when somebody would be out to repair it once the claim was accepted by American Home Shield.

My mom was here on the day that they came in and installed 'cause I had to work. So they installed it and they left. When I got home that evening, it was still blowing out hot air. So I got ahold of the guy that came out in here to do the job and he let me know that they put in a work order. The following morning, somebody showed up at 8:30 and figured out that one of the fans wasn't turning. He fixed it within 30 minutes and it was up and going. He said that was the only thing that didn't start spinning whenever he replaced the compressor.

We suffered like the whole weekend and it was so hot. Good thing that my dad had loaned us a little air unit that we put in order to stay a little cool. Overall, the experience was excellent. Customer service did the whole nine yards around and everything was good. That was an unexpected thing that just happened and they were there to help us out. I'm so glad that I signed up with American Home Shield and I will continue to stay with them.

We have an issue with the pipes in the back. The bathrooms were remodeled before we moved in, and the contractors that came think whoever did the repairs may have soldered the pipe too hot and melted the little plastic pieces in there. So, it's leaking out through the wall. The contractors that came were amazing. He was super friendly and very helpful. He went above and beyond. He also wore a mask the whole time. However, it's not exactly fixed yet, because it's in the wall and they can't get into the wall. They did what they could, but it didn't fix the problem.

The contractors told me that that's something I have to take care of ‘cause American Home Shield doesn't cover it. I was like, “Okay.” AHS is really hard to get ahold of. I called to ask a question ‘cause I wasn't sure if the contractors could get into the wall or what I had to do to have somebody come out. I called them three times and because of the long wait, I gave my phone number. They said they'd call back, but they still never call back.

AHS has been responsive within a reasonable amount of time and the technicians that have come out have done the repairs. Recently, C and R Repair came out to troubleshoot noise that was in our external air conditioner unit. They diagnosed it then they had to come back after ordering a part. The man who came out fixed it and he did a great job.

Suffolk Appliance came out and fixed the washer and dryer. The guy was wearing his mask. He was really professional, nice, courteous, and knowledgeable of what he was doing. He resolved the problem right quickly. Everything went well. Then I had a problem with the handle and all on the stove and the glass on the inside. I talked to the lady and they were looking for the part of the stove to come in at any time. She said it might be as early as next Wednesday that they might be able to come back out and put that on.

The toilet was running and it made my water bill go up. Walston Mechanical came in and fixed it. Prior to them, I had another company that came out a couple of times and they couldn't fix it. So then, Walston came out. The first time, it worked okay for about a week but it went back to running by itself again so they came back. As of this time, it takes a long time to get through American Home Shield. I don’t know if it is because of COVID. You have to hold on for no less than two hours to get through and then when you do get through, you get someone that does not speak English and does not know what you're talking about. It’s very frustrating. When something is broken in your home, you wanna fix it right away. That's why I had them for so long.

Prior to my toilet claim, I had two work orders. I had one for the air conditioner. American Home Shield sent someone out and he told me that whatever was wrong with it, it was $1,900. If I paid, it wouldn't last the summer. So he suggested that I get a brand new unit. I figured the $1,900 will be gone down the drain if I had to call them back. So I got the new unit and I asked them about American Home Shield. The tech came, put in a new unit, and then he sent me a bill. He had given me a bill saying that American Home Shield was gonna pay one part and that my part would’ve been $3,800. That was why I was not able to pay American Home Shield in full for my premium, which I had been doing for the last 22 years. So I’m dissatisfied right now because I’m being harassed by American Home Shield.

I had quite a few calls from American Home Shield regarding my balance, which I owe them around $400. I told them that I was going to pay the balance and I was gonna keep them for this year. I gave them $164 and change. I saw when they took that out of my account. For the other one, I wrote a check. I got my check back and it was cashed. But they have not even acknowledged I had sent the money. Most of the people that I talked to couldn’t do anything. So I asked them for the telephone number for the corporate office, but all the people that work for them didn't know anything about the corporate office.

I was going to find a new warranty company because about two years into the home, one of my units went out and it was something about a fan. With the way that the fan looked, there was no way I could have gone in and manipulated it. But American Home Shield didn't cover it and that didn't sit well with me. They convinced me to stay though. Other than that, I hadn't had any issues. When the ceiling in my living area was leaking, AHS sent out Prime Plumbing and they handled the problem very well. It didn't take very long. The tech was really nice and he told me the source of my problem.

Home Shield handled the most recent claim fine. It had something to do with a backup water pipe from our washing machine. We had a drainpipe that goes down from the washing machine, and for some reason, the water shot up out of it. The guy said that sometimes lint comes out of the thing anyway, no matter what lint filter you have on, and it goes down the pipe. He cleared it out and it was no big deal. It was an easy fix. And that was handled okay because it was cheap. There were two of them here and they were very professional. They got the job done.

Getting through to Home Shield can sometimes be quite a work. But a lot of it is due to what's going on right now with the Coronavirus. I'm sure they have less people in the offices, so you give them that. They have something unusual going on so you don't hold them to task for that. What I do hold them to task for was lying to us about our water heater. We've been with them now for years, but they didn't come through when we really needed.

When it was something that was major, where our water heater was gone, they lied. Our water heater was frozen when it was inside the house. We didn't use Home Shield to do it after that. We called our own people and they told us there was nothing wrong. The water heater was not frozen. It was simply old and went. The only thing I look forward to is dumping Home Shield and not having anything more to do with them. We're going to sell the house that we're in and as soon as we sell it, we're done with them. Also, we are not recommending them. My son recently bought a house and he asked me who I recommend. I said, "Not them. Do not get them. Because the minute it's something major, they'll be gone.” In the past years, they were there. It was just in the past year that they seemed to have gone downhill where customer service is concerned.

The ARC person who came out recently for an appliance issue was very professional. However, my experience is lousy with American Home Shield. Any time I call, I'm put on hold for hours. Sometimes, I deal with them and it's eight hours only for one instance. They don't know what they're doing and have to repeat something over and over again.

Then, they do not handle the problem. They said if I pay the person to come out and fix the item and then submit my invoice to the proper email, I would receive my payment. I submitted my invoice on July 9, 2020, and I have not received anything. I sent out another and I called them numerous times and waited hours to talk to people and they would say it's been closed. Nobody could give me information. I spent on this claim only at least 10 hours on the phone with nothing. On August 27, I sent another email. It is unacceptable to withhold my money. I'm requesting a status of payment and a return call to the address. I'm so sick and tired.

The contractor checked it and because it was the piping outside from the meter to our house, it wasn't covered in our contract. So it cost us $75 for them to tell us that. But they were very nice. They were very polite and very professional. But we had to have it replaced so we put a new pipe from the meter to the house. I had another claim for my oven. My biscuits wouldn't get done on the bottom. AHS sent someone out to check my oven. The tech said he checked it and the temperature and the gauges, and showed us that the pre-heat wasn't exactly right. I need to let it pre-heat longer because there was nothing wrong with that. The AC just stopped working at one of my properties but I submitted a claim with AHS and the tech fixed it right away. He repaired it on the same day and so far, it's still running well because my tenant hasn't complained yet. Warranty-wise, I like AHS because it's nice to know that I have somewhere to call for any issues. But sometimes they're not great. This Ultra Heating contractor who recently came out one was good but I don't like some of their other contractors very much. The people that came out from those companies weren't very knowledgeable. A lot of times, they come out, put a Band-Aid on the issue, then they have to come out again and again. But I get that.

When I had a claim for my fridge in my house, the contractors were a nightmare. They fixed the little things but the fridge still was not working exactly how it should. They never said that they'd give me the money to get a new one or one that actually works. So they don't replace a unit unless it didn't work. But most of the stuff gets fixed right away whenever I have claims with AHS and overall, I've had pretty good experiences with them. But there was one really good company and I like from them, but I couldn't request them again. I don't know why. I wish they have that option on the app. Also, one time they had an option on the app where if they send you a contractor and you can say, "Request another contractor." I like that.

I was having some problems with the garage door malfunctioning. It would open sometimes and sometimes, it wouldn't open. I placed a claim to American Home Shield. They sent a technician out. And that particular person was very good. The one they had sent prior to that, I didn't like their customer service. I'm with AHS for over 10 years, and I never had any bad experiences. The guy did what he had to do, but I told him about other things that were going on with the garage door, and he didn't even show any interest. All he did was reset the code because my garage door was opening and closing along with somebody else's door.

The one who came two weeks ago checked the thing overall. He checked the keypad on the outside door. He checked the motherboard. I told the other one that the lights don't come on anymore when the garage door goes up. I changed the bulbs. The second guy took the time to pull out the plug and check them. He said something's going on with the motherboard and he'd have to submit a requisition for them to see if they want to replace that or if they could order it. He did the job thoroughly.

Overall, since I've had AHS, the service has been satisfactory. Some of the things listed in the contract like my refrigerator icemaker was not working at one point. They sent somebody out. The guy fixed the icemaker. It worked for a little bit then it stopped. They sent the person back on the same order. It stopped again. The second person who came said the icemaker is not covered. The refrigerator is covered, but the icemaker is not covered. I said, "How do you cover a refrigerator, not cover the icemaker? Next thing you'll tell me my oven is covered, and my stovetop is not covered. It's one unit."

That type of thing is a ripoff. If you're covering an appliance, you gotta cover the whole appliance. It's one functional appliance. I can't see you're covering one side of the appliance but not the next. That was upsetting to me. AHS should improve on that even if they have to charge you a surcharge. The icemaker and the freezer is a integral part of the appliance.

The biggest gripe I have with Home Shield is communication. They simply purposefully take forever to answer the phone. They mix it. People are dissuaded from calling because it's so long. They make the people that are doing the work to get clearance wait on the phone while they take an hour. It costs the contractors 100 bucks waiting for Home Shield to okay a $66 part. It's crazy. Home Shield could answer the phone in less than an hour. And if they aren't gonna answer the phone, they should at least have something where we can leave our number and they would call us back. Occasionally, depending on the number I call, I would get that but it should be more consistent.

I'm not dissatisfied with the coverage when it happens and I am not displeased with the service I get when I get it but the problem is making it happen. It takes an inordinate amount of time and unreasonable time to get work done and they have trouble hanging on to people for that reason. The last three times I've called, I remembered the people that did the work, as they were good workers. I requested for a specific guy one time and the Home Shield rep said they were on hold, which means they have voluntarily taken themselves off the list. We had a refrigerator claim and they couldn't find anybody. Finally, I had to have somebody come out. I had no trouble getting anybody, but that person was put on hold. I waited for the person. He went back, got the information, came back after another job, and finished it. It's that kind of nonsense that's disheartening. They're quite inefficient at the office.

Also, we had some very expensive work done on a Sub-Zero and it took a while to get it done. The guy that had done it before wouldn't work for them. Then, it cost me $550 for the insurance and the ice maker on the Sub-Zero was $700 so they replaced the icemaker. Eventually, they got that done. It was the same thing with the plumbing claim, I had a leakage stop and the plumber was very dissatisfied with working for them. I can understand that a guy that has three calls to do in a day does not want to sit around waiting for them to answer the phone. They put the people that is not on their list through the same thing. Home Shield is capable of doing the work. It's just hard to get them to do it. By and large, when someone comes out, I usually have no issues and I never had a problem with anybody they sent.

J-Tech Mechanical's rep was very professional. He arrived on time. He came in and looked at what was going on. He identified the issue, told me that that wasn't something they had on the truck in stock but he could get it from a local distributor, and that he would procure that and then come back. It was textbook. Everything now works better than before. The motor is new, it meets newer standards, and it performs much more efficiently. When my upstairs toilet leaked and water began leaking downstairs. AHS fixed the leak, but refused to address the damages that the leak caused, I was bothered by that... but said ok. Then our water stopped getting hot. They sent a rep from "The Plumber" this guy walk into the garage after literally 2 seconds, advised us that water heater was done and needed to be replaced.

We were advise by AHS that the water heater and the installation would be covered, but there would be an out of pocket charge of 1000.00 for a permit (bogus). I requested a second opinion, which I was denied, I was advised that if I found a company that they would cash out if I paid for the replacement. Well I contacted a local Plumber who came and fixed the water heater {it did not need to be replaced} it cost $320.00 and when I contact AHS for a reimbursement. They claim that there reimbursement is for a buy back only... meaning only if the water heater was replaced but since it did not need to be replaced , we are basically out of luck. If they had sent out and requested a second opinion they would have seen that "The plumber" is just to a haggler and our service would have been covered. So now I do not know know just where that scam starts or ends.

I am a real estate brokerage and I am very ashamed of American Home Warranty. I have been selling their policies to clients and now I find out they will not even return a phone call. You can sit for hours and get nothing. My client and I went online to fill out a claim and they took my clients $100 fee and then emailed a name of a local AC guy. We called that guy and he said that he wouldn't ever fool with American Home Warranty again because they will not return calls or will not answer the phones and just leave you on hold for hours. They also will not pay claims on time. They have taken another $100 service fee from my clients and now will not respond to nothing. This has been very embarrassing for me. I will never sell another warranty for them and I will make sure every client I have knows what a sham these warranty companies are.

I have had an account with American Home Shield for over 10 years. They are great replacing items that cannot be repaired. My air conditioner was leaking in June. I called. There have been 3 companies that came out and it is still not fixed. It seems that one of the companies unwired a control board and did not re-wire it. The company who installed the control board came back out today and cannot re-wire it because the original company who caused the problem has to come back to repair it. HELP! I have paid $125.00 x 3 to have the AC problem fixed and it is not running yet (As of today, September 8). Now I have to wait again... NOT HAPPY!

The appliance cannot be repaired, it has to be replaced. The wait times for the repair had already cost me $965 and I still need a new washer. I previously had an AHS warranty on a rental house. The AC broke down. It was going to be 6 days before someone could look at it. The temperature was 92 degrees but they won't consider it an emergency unless the air temp +105. Needless to say, I paid out of pocket for the repair (maybe that's part of the business plan). Will I make it to 2 hours?

Everything's been easy and understandable with American Home Shield and the only thing is when I was getting the text updates, which was through Realty Rekey rather than AHS, they kept calling me by the previous homeowner's name. So I don't know how to go about changing that.

When I got the house we found out that the AC wasn't blowing well, so we ended up going through American Home Shield. When I did the automatic phone number thing, it didn't pull up my account so I had to talk to a representative. Shamanski Heating & Cooling came out time and they told me to turn off the AC to see if it was frozen somewhere. One of the lines was poor insulation. The guy said that they'll shoot the dye in it and put Freon in it and see what happens. I agreed.

Then I didn't know the contract terms with American Home Shield so I asked why I would pay for the Freon. They said that the warranty only covers $10. He shot two pounds of Freon into the system and then not even 48 hours later, the AC wasn't working. The temperature in the house was rising. There was probably a severe leak. They said it was A-coil. I got charged for two pounds of Freon that I probably could have got away with one. The guy knew what he was doing just that they have to load up the systems to see if anything goes. But at the same time, if shooting the dye in there and looking for a leak, I don't think two pounds that cost me almost $200 is gonna do the trick, that's just my two cents.

American Home Shield called me a week ago and they wanted to go over the contract and sell me some more stuff. I'm in sales, so I understand that phone call and the whole follow up. But I feel like I got more information from the AC company because they said that American Home Shield only covers technically the equipment and then the parts and the labor or just the labor cost stuff. So the warranty doesn't cover everything fully. I walk into a situation where I might need a new AC and I'm getting charged four grand when I was thinking that it was only gonna cost me maybe $300 because I got the warranty.

AHS should make an email saying that if the customer got the standard warranty, this is exactly what it's covering. And then a situation where a company that is affiliated with AHS does something and you're not comfortable with it, they need to contact AHS. I got the lower coverage so I'm not saying I'm expecting 100% customer satisfaction. But it could have been a little bit more streamlined to a degree or consumer friendly.

The people that take the calls at American Home Shield sometimes don't understand what you're saying and it's hard to get it across to them. I told them that the dishwasher worked, but when it would drain, it would drain out into the sink. The drain was coming out of that top knob from the sink and it would come into the overflow. When the repairman came, I told them, “It's the overflow, it's coming out.” He said he was the wrong person. I needed a plumber. I called back immediately to say that they didn't understand what I said and that dishwasher was working but the water wasn't staying in the dishwasher and draining the way it was supposed to.

My husband googled it and solved the issue by him getting down there and fixing it. But when you're 70 years old, it's kinda hard for us to get down there and do that. I called American Home Shield back and told them. It's like you're talking to someone up in the sky. They don't listen to you and I was very aggravated. For some odd reason, all of a sudden, once a week, something's breaking down and that's never happened before. I'll be on the phone for an hour and a half trying to get ahold of somebody. Then the lady came back and said she was still trying to get ahold of Sears to get my money back. I told her they paid Sears to come out here and I shouldn't be getting my money back from Sears. I should get my money back from American Home Shield. She put me back on hold. It was a two and a half hour call with her to try to get my $75 back because they didn't send the proper personnel.

I would not recommend American Home Shield to a friend. In fact, my sister-in-law was gonna get American Shield and with all the problems that I've had, she is discouraged now herself. The service though when the contractors come out is excellent. But the other part, trying to relate to what you need is very hard and tedious.

My garbage disposal was leaking and my faucet was broken. It was a gooseneck and somehow it came off the base. I spoke to a live person from AHS which took forever and a day to get on the phone. I understand they're in the Philippines or something and to get to a live person is hard. They gave me the phone number of the person and the name of the company that was to come out.

The gentleman from S&L Plumbing came out. He was quite a bit withdrawn. I was speaking to him and he didn’t acknowledge some of my conversations so I just stopped talking to him. So S&L was just rude. The gentleman fixed the garbage disposal. However, he said that I basically tore the faucet up myself, which really pissed me off. He submitted that to American Home Shield so my claim was denied. Then they sent a gentleman out from another plumbing company for a second opinion. This second guy basically said the same thing, that he didn't know how it broke, but it wasn't a normal break. So they denied my faucet claim. I'm seriously considering dropping them at the end of this pay period.

My brother-in-law came over this weekend and it turned out that the pieces under the head were rusty and broken. But they did give me a price quote of $416 for them to come out and replace the faucet. I've had American Home Shield for two years and I've spent a lot of money with American Home Shield. If I only called in two claims in two years and this being one of them, that should tell you how I take care of my home and my appliances, my equipment within my home. And some things I pay for myself. So my overall, I would not again refer them to anybody. I don't trust them.

I have a water leak that can't seem to be corrected. I had three plumbers come out and the last person that came out did the Sheetrock work from where the plumber had to cut a hole into the ceiling in my basement to replace the PVC valve that he identified as being the root cause to the leaking issue that I'm having. However, the water company has sent me another notice telling me that the problem has not been corrected. I really don't know what to do at this point. It's been going on back and forth now for the last two months.

The first company came out. They identified that it was most likely the toilet that was running. They fixed it. Then the water company notified me that that wasn't the issue so I tried to call them back out to tell them that that wasn't the issue and they need to come back out and try to diagnose it because the guy that fixed the toilet the first time for the first plumbing company said to me that it's most likely going to be the PVC valve.

But he identified that there was a running toilet and sometimes, with running toilets, that would cause the overage to go up. He fixed the toilet but when I tried to tell him that the toilet that he corrected, the problem was still there, he didn't come back out to fix the PVC valve. So I called American Home Shield and asked them if I could get a second opinion.

That was when they dispatched another company that came out. When he came out, he identified that most likely, it was gonna be the PVC valve that needs to be replaced based on the diagnosis, diagnosed as low water pressure. He looked at the information that I received from the water company, so he replaced the valve. As a result of replacing the valve, the pressure had to go somewhere, is what I'm being told. He’s gotta come back out to replace another seal on a toilet. I've had two toilets fixed, a PVC valve replaced, a hole in my ceiling patched and I still have a problem.

Sometimes, claims are addressed and everything's good and the problem is resolved. Sometimes, claims are addressed, problems are not resolved and we go around and around but because I am paying for this service, I continue to keep pressing for a resolution. I don't feel like I need to bring anybody additional from the outside in because once again, it's something I'm paying for and they need to keep giving me someone or putting somebody on it until we get the problem corrected. I would recommend AHS. It’s not all the time that we have these issues or concerns. I just think that with certain things, maybe they need more of a subject matter expert instead of some run-of-the-mill organization that doesn't care, or they're not listening to the customer.

On August 11th, I called American Home Shield and I told them I had two issues. The first one was with my toilet, which they handled, and the second one was with my stove. On August the 14th, a repair company came out, looked at the stove and said it was so old. They did not think they could get the parts but they would try. They could get the parts for the stove but they could not get the part to fix the oven. So, AHS gave me two options. One was for me to take the Whirlpool stove and they would have it delivered to my house. They would have it installed and the old one taken away.

My second option was they would give me up to so much money, which was close to $900, to go out, buy a stove, have somebody hook it up and have somebody haul off the old one. Then I would have to send them the receipt and whatever I spent out-of-pocket, they would reimburse me. I didn't wanna go through that hassle so I chose the first option.

Whirlpool brought out my stove but because it was gas, they would not unhook my stove. So, it was assigned to this other company and that company called and said they would be out to install the new stove. I said okay and we set up a time. I said that they were not only installing it but they were taking the old stove out. They said that would not take the old stove with them and I would to find somebody to take it. That was not what AHS told me. The first company they sent out did not take it because they said all they have is a van and they have nothing to haul it in. In three weeks, AHS have not found any contractor, even if they have to go through two of them. One to disconnect the stove and hook up the new one, and the third one to haul it away. It's not that hard to do.

When I first bought this place three years ago, I had the warranty for a year and then, I was gonna disconnect it because I had used the service a couple times and the customer service part of it was lousy. The sales person caught on and asked me why I wasn't gonna reconnect and said that if I would go ahead and sign back up, he would give me this coupon. But I didn't receive it. He gave me a number and then it had no expiration date. It was $75.

When I called to get my toilet fixed, I gave AHS the reference number and all of that. Then I got an email saying that I owed $75. So, I called them back and I said that I had this coupon certificate, which was supposed to cover it. They said they saw it. I was out of town a couple of days and when I got back and started going through my mail, there was a bill from American Home Shield. They were still not taking this reference number coupon for the service call. So again, I have been screwed by AHS.

I pay all this money for all these years and something goes wrong, and they keep dragging. I'm disabled and if I’m having a bad day, I have to use my motorized chair. Since I have this extra stove in my kitchen, I could not get to my bedroom and my bathroom with my motorized chair. If I'm having a bad day and I have to walk, and I ended up going down, breaking my hip or legs, I'm gonna sue.

A month is way too long. Tomorrow, I am calling AHS one more time. I've been paying all this money every single month. They take it right out of my checking account and I want what I paid for. When I call tomorrow, we’re gonna come up with a resolution to this issue because this is not gonna keep going on and on. Every customer service rep I talked to is as sweet as can be on the phone but yet, I get no feedback from them. I get no text nor phone calls. I have no idea what they're doing and evidently, it’s nothing.

The way that the drain was originally set up, it went into the ground outside instead of having a proper outlet for it to go. It was almost buried in the ground ‘cause there's some vegetation around it, so it got blocked up. I did everything that I could at the unit, so I couldn't understand why it was blocked up like that. The guy from Bencraft Mechanical went out there and adjusted the PVC pipe and put a different drain head. Now it's filtered out above the ground so it won't ever get backed up again. He was really professional and he was wearing a mask. It took him about 30 minutes to fix it. Bencraft was perfect.

I'm having an issue right now with my ceiling fan and that's been dragging out so I'm a little upset about that. It has nothing to do with American Home Shield. It's the company that they contracted out to come and fix it. The gentleman that came out thought it was a capacitor and it took him a week to find another one. That didn't work, so then he said that he’d just replace the fan. I have a 60-inch fan and they said that they couldn't replace it with the same type. The only thing they could do is give me some sort of refund in place or give me a 52-inch fan. The room that the fan is in is a large living room so the size of it is perfect there. But other than that, I haven't had any issues. I’m still happy with American Home Shield.

The air conditioner's working better now than it has been in years. We've had American Home Shield for years and somebody comes out almost every year to work on the air conditioner. It's been the same issue where the Freon would leak out and somebody would come and they say they would fix it and it would last for a little while.

I have been disgusted because I had to pay for Freon out my pocket for the last couple years. I don't think that's fair to me, but AHS won't do anything. Either they need to fix it or they need to give some kind of warranty where the Freon will last for the whole summer or the whole year. I had to pay $500 for Freon last year and the year before too. But when the guy came out this time, he actually found the leak and everything else. Our air conditioner gets cool. But with whatever the guy did this time, the unit is actually cold to the point where my wife and my kids walk around with jackets on in the house. For the most part, American Home Shield’s service is really good.

I have a double decker washer and dryer and the washer basket held water during the cycle. A guy from Appliance Doctor came out, tested it, and realized that it wasn't any issue with the timer, a valve or drainage. It simply wasn't clicking over to the next level of the cycle. He offered that if it acted up again, to put in the request again to him, and he will come out again. Out of all of my experiences, this recent service was the better one. I have a problem with the third party that American Home Shield recommends to come out to service whatever issue, but it happened that The Appliance Doctor guy was excellent. He did what he said he was gonna do and he offered a follow up if I needed one, but the other ones, nah.

We've been in the house for about six years and last year we had some of the outlets kinda blow out on us. So we had them replaced before we had American Home Shield. They just kind of seem to be around their warranty age because we've had four more kind of go out within the past two months. So, we called American Home Shield to kinda come out and replace those for us.

As far as the claim submission process, we've been having some difficulty for the other items. We've had multiple requests. We had a plumbing, we had an electrical and then we had one for a refrigerator. The electrical one was flawless. That went through beautifully. We let them know we had a problem, they assigned an electrician, the electrician called us immediately, came out really quickly, and replaced everything that we needed with no problems at all. He was a very informative gentleman. He said we may see some additional work that may need to be done, but there's really no reason to be concerned. And so, he helped us in that because we kind of became a little concerned as far as replacing all of them. It was a great company and a very professional gentleman that came out.

As far as the plumbing and the refrigerator purpose, it would be great if they had some kind of follow through. Once they assigned a company, it kinda seems like American Home Shield expects the company that they assigned to do everything, which in the case of the electrician was great. But in the case of the plumbing and the refrigerator issue that we're still dealing with three months later, it would be great if they followed up on cases instead. I don't know if they have a process where the company that they assigned says, “Oh hey, this item is complete.” If they don't, they should create that because even though I’m dealing with the third party companies, I'm really dealing with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield can follow up with their third party companies to kinda say, “Is this completed? Where are we at?" so that me as the homeowner doesn't have to go and chase updates from these other companies. Other than that, I dealt with them at another home that I owned and had no problems at all with the companies they assigned. I was in a different state, but I feel confident in their ability to insure my home and help me as things break.

I've been happy with American Home Shield so far. Luckily, they've been able to cover everything that I've had an issue with. I haven't had to use them that much, but every time I've done claims, I've done it online. I've only talked to the whatever company was coming out to fix it. One time, I went without AC overnight. The technician from Air Design said that it looked like somebody may have messed with my wiring, but it was hard to understand him. He had an accent, and he was wearing a mask (he had gloves on as well). I repeated it back to him. I said, "You think somebody messed with my wiring?" and he was like, "Yeah." It didn't make any sense though. Who would go into my AC unit outside and mess with the wiring? Apart from that, he was able to fix the issue.

Our recent claim with AHS went well. They scheduled me, but we were waiting on the part to come in. It was about six weeks. Hers and His Plumbing found out that the faucet was still under warranty. So, we had to contact them, which AHS didn’t, and that was a big problem. I figured they should have contacted Pfister, the faucet company. But the technicians came in and fixed it in a timely manner.

Once I had my AC went down and they didn't get that fixed. I had to call an outside person to come in and fix the frame on the unit ‘cause they said they couldn't do anything with it. Also, they got newcomers that’s getting the same service as we got, and they’re getting it for a lot less than what we get it. AHS needs to do something with loyal customers, like a discounted rate. We pay a $78 service fee and the newcomers, now, they pay $40. My wife also had filled out for gift cards. But she hadn’t heard anything from them.

The second time that I had someone come was for my air conditioning or ductwork. I just bought my house and I was told that you get a home warranty because if things like that break, then they can be replaced. However, the air guy said no. Even though I have a super old unit, they just keep trying to jimmy-rig it until it finally breaks to the point that they can't fix anything. He was talking about that's how the home warranty gets money 'cause they just have to come out. Every time they come out, you're paying $75. It just seems like they flop it together and make it work for a short time again. It’s a bummer, but I'm sure it'll be all right.

We love American Home Shield. We recommend them because it is the best safety net you can have for a house. When filing claims, we either make a phone call or hop online and give the information on the website. We usually have someone out within 24 to 48 hours. We never had a problem with having to wait. The only problem we have, and this isn't related to American Home Shield is, due to COVID, the parts that they're needing for things aren't being timely because they're coming from China. So it's not a Home Shield thing. They've had guys come out here. They've done what they told us they'd do. They were timely on their responses. Everybody that they've ever sent out has always been professional. They've been on time. If they say they're gonna be here at a certain time, they're here.

The contractors are also really good lately. They try their own workarounds too lately. Especially with the refrigerator, our icemaker hasn't been working, the guy who was here said, "I just wanna try this to see." He made a second trip out to our house. We have nothing but positive things to say about AHS. We even made sure that our son who is renting his house put it as a stipulation for his renters that they had to get American Home Shield and have the protection plan, so that he didn't have to come out of pocket for any large items.

He was only here about half an hour. He was really friendly and a really good guy. He explained everything to me. I really liked him. I couldn’t be happier with that encounter.

I like that it’s easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield. All I have to do is just go online. All the buttons you need to push are there, and it's not like whatever your problem is, you can't find it on that list of drop downs. So it's very easy to use. They always respond immediately with a text. As far as getting people out, they've been really good. Sometimes, I know they can't really control that because they have people that they use. But that's what is in the contract so nothing I can do about it. He was excellent and he took the time to show my son what he was doing so that if things go wrong again, my son could change it himself. They fixed it while they were here and everything was completed within an hour. It’s fine now. I was able to do the dishes. I'm just really happy that I have AHS. They got it together and they sent qualified people. They also sent them fast and it got fixed. The nice thing about having American Home Shield is it's a standard procedure. I call them and I tell them I have a problem. They schedule a repairman or a technician, the technician contacts me and makes an appointment and arranges to be here. They come out and fix the problem. It’s really a wonderful thing.

I definitely recommend American Home Shield. I'm a senior citizen and I have health problems. I am just unable to go out and round up contractors and repairmen or things having to do with the house. So we have a super deluxe coverage program that covers everything. It is expensive, but the alternative is sometimes when you call people, they don't even return your call. It’s hard to get electricians and plumbers and people like that. I've tried it before and they didn't even return my call. AHS is worth it.

My refrigerator stopped working and the technician came out. He noted all the parts that needed to be put on the refrigerator, and he ordered those. It took about a week longer than what he said for all of them to come in, ‘cause it was three separate parts. Then I had to schedule it and that took another week. The technician explained to me the reason it took a week is because he was off sick with COVID or something. He finally came out, and they repaired the refrigerator. Did not need all the parts, sent whatever one of them was back. Then he found out that he needed two more parts and ordered those. He had to make a second return trip to repair those. When he was out here he broke one of them, so he had to get one from a parts place. It was a very difficult part for him to put on, and he broke it twice. But he finally got it put on. It's making a funny noise, but it's working. He was a very nice, young man, and he wore mask.

Originally, I was very satisfied with the repair service calls and the technician, other than the fact that it took so long to get it repaired. But my refrigerator is 10 years old, and I can understand that it took a while to get the parts because they had to locate them on a refrigerator that’s old and they did finally located them. I was lucky that I had another refrigerator in my garage which is an older one back when they made better refrigerators. That was still working, so I was able to put a lot of my things in the garage refrigerator. But I lost a lot of food because of it being out. It stayed cool for a few days before it finally went all the way out. So, we were able to eat up some of the things that were in there, like vegetables. But we lost a lot of things that were in jars.t. But other than that, the experience was fine.

Now, I have called five times and I'm not happy about my air conditioning. I've had the technician come back out, but it's only because I called the company that was working on it to begin with. American Home Shield never called me back with a response on my questions and that was very difficult. I sat on the phone an hour waiting for them to answer the phone, and then I finally left a message.

Axis Appliance came out the initial time and didn't have the part to replace it and then had to come out like a week or two later with the part and installed it. The gentleman was really nice, courteous and professional. I've had American Home Shield for 20 years, and I like their response, the convenience and the ability to get things fixed.

Filing a claim with American Home Shield is simple. You can do it online or you can call in. I've done it both ways and each way, it was kinda like just giving your account number, tell them what you want, and they schedule you an appointment. Everybody that has been sent has been professional and knowledgeable of whatever they're doing. They come pretty fast and take care of the issue and I haven't had any repeat issues. They come and fix it. I don't have to call that particular company for that particular reason anymore. The only thing is I was trying to get a receipt for the work done and they weren't able to provide me with one. They should make sure that the customer can receive a receipt because what had happened was I needed a receipt to show my water company that the repairs were done.

American Home Shield is not very expensive and they take care of the appliances. If you have to get them replaced, they are pretty accessible to get that done. They are pretty much timely based on the fact that they are not in the community here. They are pretty good and I would recommend them. I had a problem with one of my electric lights that impacted my garage lighting and my basement lighting, which runs on the same line. I called AHS and the claim process went well. A tech with 1MD Electric came a day after the call. He was professional and he wore a mask. He fixed the fixtures and the problem that was going on with the line. He was able to repair it the same day. Everything's fine now.

American Home Shield sent out a tech and he said that there was a compressor issue with my one of my AC units. They went ahead and ordered a compressor. The compressor was backordered for however long so they offered me a cash-out of $500 saying I could go buy my own compressor and fix it however I wanted. I called in a different tech and he said it was not a compressor issue but it was just a pipe. I also called a third person and he agreed with that statement so I had it fixed. It seemed like the first tech was not fully qualified. He diagnosed the problem within a few minutes whereas the other techs took a good 30 to 40 minutes to look at the issue. The first two techs were from the same company while the last one that fixed the AC was not. I then sent in my receipt in to American Home Shield order to get reimbursed for the $700. Since the repair, the AC has been great.

I also have an issue with my refrigerator. Sears came in, diagnosed the problem, and ordered all the parts. But because of COVID-19, Samsung is not able to provide any compressors for at least two months. We are waiting on one more part from Samsung and after that is done, Sears will come out again and go ahead and fix the refrigerator. That process took a month and a half. I'm already a month and a half in so far. Other than that, it's been pretty good with American Home Shield so far. Everything on their end has been fine.

It took us six months for a resolution after repeated visits from the appliance repair shop but finally it was resolved successfully and happily.

    Original Review: Sept. 8, 2020

My husband called the claim for the oven the first time. The technician said that he adjusted the oven. He thought I was being unreasonable or something. When I called AHS for the second time, I waited on hold for about an hour. Then the technician came out and changed the heat sensor. Eventually, the oven got to the right temperature. But whenever it dinged when it was supposed to get to temperature, it wasn't to the temperature and it still took another 5 to 10 minutes to get there. So I'm still not sure if what they've done has fixed the problem.

We had two toilets that were leaking. One wasn't seated properly and one was visibly leaking. Initially, it was hard to get an appointment. I was scheduled for the plumber but my issue was dropped because it was the end of the day. They ran out of time and never showed up. I was not informed that they might not make it if I'd be having a service call at the end of the day. It'd be helpful if American Home Shield could work more closely with the contractor to advise on a timeline 'cause I was having a hard time reaching the contractor and finding out when they would be coming out.

I called American Home Shield back and explained what the issue was. The plumber from Tom Melton Service came out and he helped me by sealing both toilets down to the floor. He said there might have been some subfloor damage that we needed to look at working on too. The plumber told me that was only allowed to fix what was on his ticket and that was the way his company was supposed to respond. That was pretty ridiculous that he was not able to fix the thing that I reported because I didn't mention exactly what was wrong with it. The website didn't give me the option to really customize what I wanted to say.

Using the AHS website was a little bit frustrating. The way you can request service on there is a little bit restrictive. I can only choose one problem for the toilet and my problem has to be cracked, leaking water, making noise, a mechanism not working, not filling, not flushing and other. But the 'other' option doesn't even give you a box to explain the problem. You can only request one problem for the toilet. I have to report exactly what the problem is according to the guy and I can't do that if there are two problems.

The contractor was very professional and very reasonable. He did his best to get the toilets working. Despite the different issues, he did a very good job. He might have missed one thing and that was the tank not emptying every flush. He seemed to think that it was the fact that the toilet was clogged going down. But it seemed like the flapper in the tank was not staying up long enough. I was a little bit frustrated that it wasn't looked at.

I had two different people come out there. When the first one came, I wasn't home and my auntie was there. The guy left a little note telling me what I needed and I called him to clarify what was going on, but he got all smart and rude on the phone. I didn't know what happened and I was trying to figure out what was going on. He told me that if I didn't like whatever he'd seen, I could find somebody else. The next thing I knew, I got an email from American Home Shield saying that somebody else was gonna come out there.

At another time, I called in because I paid the whole first year and never had a claim. Now, it’s my second year and I'm paying all this money again, and my appliances are all right. They ain’t broken down. When I submitted my claim, I spoke to a couple of different people and there was one person I couldn't understand the language. It wasn't good English and I had to really listen and pay attention to see what he was saying. The other people were fine though. They told me they’d get on it and get people out, which they did. They did everything. Other than me not understanding, I could hear them. My dishwasher was broken and all the buildup up in there was nasty. It was terrible and the contractor said, “You know, this ain't repairable. We’ll see if they'll give you a dishwasher.” So far, nothing has happened. I haven’t heard back from American Home Shield or anybody about any of my repairs.

My experience has been terrible. First of all, I've been waiting a couple months to get my stuff repaired. Second, I don't know how they select the people that they got working for them and they need to re-evaluate that as well. The contractors are rude. The last people that came out were the plumbers. On the first time, they rescheduled my appointment, and then I never heard anything from them. I had to call them and see what was going on. Once they came out, I didn't hear anything else for three weeks. My water and ice maker had to have the tube run downstairs and hooked to my cold water so that it’ll work and that was something the plumber had tools for and didn't do. He told me, “Oh, yeah. We need to hook that up. We’ll do this, we’ll do that.”

The plumber never came back to do any of it and he told me he was waiting on me to call him, but he was the one doing the work. I didn’t like that part. How am I supposed to call them when I didn't know what was going on? The plumber didn't say when he was coming back and if he could fix it. It's my understanding he had to contact American Home Shield and then they would give him the okay. I called him, “What's going on?” He said American Home Shield only covered 250 and then I was gonna have to come out a couple hundred myself. I said, "What?" and he said, "Yeah". I then said, “Well, why didn't you call and let me know? I've been sitting here waiting.” The person I talked to then said, “I thought I called you.” He thought he called me and left a message? Come on.

There was the loose wire out of the breaker box. Everything's working normally now. My wife would go in and out the garage door every day. So, having to go out and manually open the garage door versus being able to use the garage door opener certainly saved some time and energy.

After, I was contacted by the repairperson, but we rescheduled the first appointment because I couldn't be there. We made a second appointment and it worked out great. He got my dishwasher fixed with what he had available and I have not had a problem with it since. That was my fourth time to submit a claim with AHS and I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them. Their service had been timely and efficient. When we called American Home Shield, MS Services came and they fixed the AC. But we are still having the same problem. This is happening when the weather is in the three-digit number, 106, 107, 108. We have a two-story. When we turn the AC upstairs and downstairs, only one of them will work. Only the one upstairs will work then the downstairs one will not cold up more.

I thought of calling to complain but I said to just leave it and I'll monitor it. If it continues again, I will let American Home Shield know. The AC, especially the downstairs one is not really cooling the way it was. Maybe it's because last week the weather has been really hot in California. It could also be that too many people are using the AC.

Another thing is I want to see improvement in American Home Shield's answering service. When you call them, it takes forever to get them. You can stay on the phone for almost an hour for somebody to talk to. But when something happens, they always send somebody to come and check. For that, I credit them. They always send somebody as soon as they can get somebody.

Ark-La-Flow Plumbing fixed the refrigerator after two and a half weeks. When the guy found the error, he did good. He had to order a part but they were so busy it took them a week to even come out. Luckily, it was still freezing. But that was the big problem. It was freezing up on our refrigerator freezer so I was having to take the backplate off the inside of the freezer and take a hairdryer and manually defrost it.

We've had issues in the past on getting stuff repaired. The biggest problem I have is American Home Shield changed the value of the freon on the AC unit. We have an older unit and they keep piecemealing. We had a new condensing unit put in and within a year and a half or two, the part failed. What really made me mad was the fact that it was a manufacturer's error that caused the freon to come back out of the very unit. They wouldn't reimburse that. The unit comes pre-charged. When the part failed, the pre-charging left. I should have at least got the same thing back again and I didn't.

I had a backup of the water in the drain pipe and the contractor came later that morning. He checked everything out then went ahead and used the compressed air to make sure the line was completely cleared out and it did good. He did check the airflow too. For the most part, American Home Shield is good. I've had good luck with them. But for specialty items, a lot of times, they don't have people who understand what you're talking to them about when you call in. What I've learned is you just have to ask to speak to a supervisor and that causes that service person to be nervous because they're graded on that.

I had a claim for a water heater that has a heat pump on it. I ended up having to have somebody else come look at the issue because it's a specialty item. A part of it is a plumbing problem with the water heater and the other part is kinda like an air conditioner unit with a compressor and a heat pump on top. They would send one then they'd send another and we never got two of them together. Three or four times we did that on each discipline before we got to it. Finally I got ahold of a supervisor. I had tracked down one person in Austin who knew about how to work on those and they had him come out and fix it then they reimbursed for the charges. It just took me forever to get that. The other thing was a Whirlpool tub. I had a problem with that claiming because it was a walk-in tub and they didn't cover it. It was so silly. They ended up finally covering that up too but it took a long time to get that resolved.

He said the pads were not getting saturated, so he cleaned off the area. He was in and out. It didn't take him that long. This is the second time I've had a contract with American Home Shield. On this particular call, the guy came out within the timeframe.

The other time that I've requested for work to be done in my house, I was not really pleased with them. I called in, something for plumbing, and it literally took them a week to come to my house for a drain that wasn't draining in my kids’ shower. My contract says within 24 to 48 hours, they’re supposed to get someone there. They didn't get anyone there till Friday and I called on Monday. Then I spent four days trying to get them on the phone to tell them I needed to get someone else to come out. Those four days, it still took that long to even get someone on the phone and say, “Hey, why are you guys taking four days to get here?” That was the reason why I technically stopped doing business with them the first time. I couldn’t get the technicians to come out to me.

I had some condensation where hot air was meeting cold air in the vents that were coming out of the ducts in the attic. That issue never got really resolved. The people that came out were great, but the issue appears to be on the margins between the categories that were provided. So I had somebody come out and said that our attic fan was busted so we needed an electrician. An electrician came out and said that it was not busted but we needed insulation. So in this case, there wasn't much of a resolution.

I'm a big proponent of Home Shield. I’ve been bragging on the program for quite a bit to people. It's just the last couple of things that haven't worked out. I don't necessarily blame on Home Shield on the ductwork thing. It was just a weird problem that exists in the margins between how they categorize things. When my dryer broke, that one actually did frustrate me from a standpoint of Home Shield because in order to get anything moving to the next level as far as replacing the dryer, I had to call. If I didn't call, nothing would ever happen. A tech came out and confirmed that my dryer was busted. The parts didn't exist anymore. So I got an email with this button if I wanted a new dryer from AHS. So I pressed the button and it said that it was ordered. It also said that somebody would be in touch or l'd get it in 10 days.

A week and a half passed by and I didn't heard a peep since I got the email. I finally called AHS and they said that nothing was ordered. So I asked them to order me a dryer. I called again and found out that it was all backordered and it was gonna take four months or something. So I asked them to give me the money. Then they have the bones to say that the receipt to this email address. I got a new dryer in hand but I would have to call them just to make sure that they would be sending a check. Overall, my experience has been very good but the need to call them is more than it should be. But whenever I do get through to people, they always help me out.

Submitting the claim to Home Shield was simple. I've done three now, and usually, I would get a notification saying that, "The company will contact you." But I didn't get that was Atlantic Repair and I called them a few days after I submitted this claim. I had to schedule the appointment with them separately. But usually when I work with Home Shield with everything else, and they do the work themselves, it's great.

I had Atlantic Repair come because my fridge broke and they needed to order a part. The man told me it would be three to five business days, but it took over a month. That specific company was one that I didn't want to use again. And when I called to complain to Home Shield, I kept calling and emailing the actual company itself but nobody got back to me. So, I thought the only thing that I could do was call Home Shield so that they could maybe try to contact. The person on the phone definitely did his job, but it felt more like a script rather than, "Oh, well, that's a bummer. Let me try to get on it as soon as possible." And then, I didn't hear anything back when they said they would call back. The whole process took over a month. They ended up replacing the part that needed to be replaced. I just wanted it to be done because it was such a frustrating process.

When I had a man come and check on my air conditioning, that was super nice. I would, hands-down, have him come back and check on everything if I could. It's just frustrating when they contract out because it makes you lose a bit of trust in Home Shield when they contract out to a company that sucks so much. But everything that went through Home Shield themselves was fantastic.

I did the claim online where I put in a work order and I got a notification that the contracting company was notified and that they should be calling me. Or if they don't call me in an ample amount of time, to contact them. My kitchen sink was backing up and they had to come three different times. I still have another schedule 'cause the problem has not been solved. I don't know what exactly it is. The first guy came and snaked it but he had to come back a few hours later 'cause it started backing up again even after we tested it for a little bit. He snaked it again with a different snake and it ran fine for a couple of days but it started doing the same thing again.

It took about a week and a half for them to come back out which was last week. He snaked it again but it's still backing up. We've been checking our other drains and nothing else is backing up except for that sink drain. He said he had to get the manager out this coming week. My wife wasn't too impressed with the guy that came out this week. At this point, American Home Shield could improve on how long it takes for them to dispatch folks. With stuff like backed-up sinks, you have to wait quite a few days to get a situation resolved 'cause there's one contractor that does this whole area. They could have more than one contractor so somebody could come out within at least a day or two to address the problem.

It's very hard just to pick up the phone and ask what's going on. I got told to go online and look at my thing. But I already did and I had already paid my $75 and I have a plumbing problem. I don't know what to do if the person doesn't respond in 24 hours. It would be helpful to know. Other than that, I had an appliance claim and the tech from Arno who came out was very professional. I've had American Home Shield in a previous house that's why I requested it again for this new home. Recently, our thermostat stopped working. My boyfriend went up there and found that the condensation was building up so it probably shorted out the board ‘cause it got wet. But it looked like it had not been flushed in a while and it needed to be flushed. I'm glad we had the guy from Comfort Pro ‘cause he flushed everything through.

There was also a filter up there that they hadn't changed since 2015 but we found out from the guy that came that it really doesn't need a filter since we have filters throughout the house. It was good to get it flushed out. It was worth it to have somebody go through and clean that all out. He also seemed pretty knowledgeable. The only thing is if you have a couple issues and you need two different contractors to come out, you have to pay them separately. I had two things that went bad at the same time. It would’ve been nice to be able to pay just one charge. But all in all, it was a good experience with American Home Shield.

Eventually, I did manage to get in touch with them on Wednesday. But I was a little bit panicked until then because I couldn't find a way to get another contractor assigned or to otherwise reach them. But it did all work out in the end. There was another claim before that for rekeying and that went pretty well. I just had to fill out a form online where I selected the kind of service I needed. That went pretty smoothly and I received an email later saying a contractor was assigned and they'd be contacting me to schedule an appointment and follow up from there.

Our microwave was shorting out power in our house and American Home Shield sent somebody over to fix it. Then, they sent something over the email saying that we needed to replace it. They didn't go into detail on the first email that I received but that we could purchase the microwave. Then, they would give us up to a certain price and then we would have to turn in the invoice to get it refunded. So, my husband called to ask about it because we had to get this microwave.

The one that we currently have is a new replacement itself. We had it for maybe a year and a half before it started to cause those problems with wires shorting out. This was a new one and the one we had prior to that was giving us issues. My husband called to ask them about it because we didn't do that process last year as far as us having to purchase it. Basically, we have to purchase it and then send them the receipt, and they’re gonna pay us back. In the midst of while we were waiting to see someone to determine what was going on, we purchased another microwave. Not a big one like the one that we have over our stove but just something that we could use while we were waiting on them to come and assess it. So, we already purchased one microwave and then, we found out we have to purchase one. Submitting the claim was okay. They sent us out to another contract but it took a little while for the other people to come.

We cancelled our contract with them because our air conditioner broke July 8th, both of our systems in our house. In September, we finally ended up paying for it ourselves because they couldn't find equipment for our downstairs unit and we paid 3,950 to get it fixed. American Home Shield is giving us 1,700 because that's all they said they would be able to give us because that's what they could have repaired it for. After waiting over three weeks for that particular unit, in the middle of August (our house was at 90 degrees), they said, “Well, we're sorry. We can't find the equipment.”

All of a sudden, when we paid for it, they came up with a ridiculous figure, $1,700, which 700 of it was labor. That meant that they bought a heat pump outside and an air handler inside for $1,000, which doesn’t even seem realistic. They also told me that they didn’t have to do the same type of equipment, brand, or quality we have. They just had to match the 2.5 ton and a handler that matched it, which, to us, was not adequate. We’re not happy and now, we’re still waiting on our payment and the refund when we cancelled the thing. We also had to pay to get that air handler put in for our upstairs unit.

They replaced the heat pump outside and then, the inside air handler blew from the new equipment putting so much pressure through the old air handler. We haven't heard back if they're gonna pay for that yet, but we had to pay $1,600 to have that replaced so we can have air conditioning. We wrote a letter to the Better Business Bureau and we got a letter from them yesterday that American Home Shield replied to the them. Their side of the story isn't anywhere near where ours is, but it's irrelevant. We're done with them. We're done with all home warranties. I don't think any of them are fair to the people that need them.

The last time I called them, I had to wait on the line a long time too. But once you get in contact with them, they were pretty expedient as to what they needed to do.

I did a claim to American Home Shield for my AC unit. The process was very simple. I went on the app and selected that I needed service. I told them what the issue was, paid my deductible, and it wasn't even five minutes later when I received an email and a text saying that it was assigned to a company. Then I got a call from whom it was assigned to and they came out the very next day. The phone calls, the emails and the texts were all within 20 minutes of me submitting the request.

The contractor was incredible. He introduced himself. I met him in my driveway because I have a dog and I wanted to make sure that my dog was put away before he went into the backyard. He had on his mask, kept his distance and asked me what the issues was. He had to come in to look at my actual unit within the home, and he checked all of that. He told me what I had. My unit isn't that old so I was a little thrown off by it not working. He confirmed for me by saying, "Yeah, I can tell this is a newer unit." He gave me information on it and even showed me little things on it that I didn't know anything about. Then we went outside. He walked me through all the steps he was going to do as far as checking on what the issue was. He found the issue very quickly. It was an issue that I could have corrected myself. He showed me how to do it, but he did it himself.

He said, "But you can always call us if you need any help." He was very informative, nice and professional. He was supposed to be here between 2:00 and 4:00. He called around 3:00, he said that he finished a job earlier, and asked if he could come earlier. That was perfect because it was a very hot day. Overall, I can't stop singing the praises of that appointment. It was great.

Even though I have the coverage, I feared calling because I dreaded being told they wouldn't be able to come for a week as if I had called a normal AC company and said, "Hey, my air is out. And it's a hot day," and with COVID, thinking it was gonna take a long time. I was so surprised by how quick, how timely and how easy it was. Being a homeowner, you expect the service on your home to take longer since you don't have a "maintenance person". I felt as if I lived in an apartment and I called the maintenance man who lives two doors down.

Submitting claims was pretty simple, and I've had good responses. The first time I called, the contractor never called me, and so I called American Home Shield. They said they couldn't have that so they contacted another contractor and that person called me right back. So, it was not ever on American Shield's side. It was the contractor.

I've had three calls into them. The first one was for my air conditioning system, which the contractor said would not have been covered by my policy, but I liked him so much I had him do what needed to be done. It wasn't broke. It wasn't functioning properly. Then the second time was Rod Plumbing came out and replaced my garbage disposal. Wasn't even an hour, and that he came the day after I had put a claim in. The third one, Rod came out again. He discovered that there were little screws in the garbage disposal, which he said wasn't covered by American Home Shield, but he fixed it and didn't charge me anything. He got the screws out.

I only have my major things covered, my electrical, my plumbing, and my systems like my hot water heater, my heater, and air conditioning. I do not have my appliances but I think when my renewal comes up next year, I might add that on too. So far, so good, and American Home Shield has been great to deal with. I told people that I have them.

We had intended to rekey at some point but we hadn't done it yet. We replaced the doors on our house and so, it was the perfect time to go ahead and complete the rekey. Dan's Pro-Lock came out and they were able to rekey my lock, and it went well. They did three doors and there was a deadbolt and a regular knob on each of the doors. American Home Shield helped with our AC back in June and our fridge started acting up in December of last year. So, I submitted a claim when that happened as well. The technicians were all helpful.

I had a garbage disposal replaced and it took 12 days to get the guy here. I had also referred a friend, and they sent the person to her. Absolute Comfort did excellent quality work on an 8-yr old AC that had a leaking coil. They fixed it and I was quite happy. They were a very good company. I had a prior claim with American Home Shield for a toilet and I was very upset. The tank behind the toilet cracked and began to leak. When I filed a claim against it, the contractor came out to look at it said it happens all the time. The toilet itself was good, but the tank was bad. They had to replace the entire unit and they went and got the cheapest one they could find. I bet they didn't spend 100 bucks on it. It pissed me off that American Home Shield doesn't go back with the same amount and the same quality equipment. I even offered to pay any difference. I could've gone down to Home Depot or Lowe's and bought a better toilet than what they put in.

I got hit with two times $75 because American Home Shield charged me twice to $75 service calls, one to come out and analyze the problem, and another $75 to come out and replace the toilet. Because they would only do white and mine's almond, they said they were gonna have to charge me extra for the color difference which they did. I was pretty pissed to the point where I nearly canceled my contract with them. The toilet is working but the wife hates it. She wants me to go replace it with something that's of similar quality to our home because everywhere else, we've got high quality fixtures in our bathrooms then we got this cheap toilet now in the guest bathroom. She's pretty upset about that to the point where she's probably gonna make me swap it out.

I've had American Home Shield with a previous home I had in Cyprus so I've been working with them since probably 2002. There was probably a five-year gap when I was based in Singapore. I've been paying 50,60 bucks a month for six years and that was how they were gonna treat me. I don't think I need a home warranty if that's how they're going to treat me. I could take all that money and go fix the thing myself. It was pretty nasty. I sent American Home Shield an email with all my comments, and nobody's gonna call me back on that 'cause that's negative feedback.

The problem was that the fridge had been unplugged and to be able to properly know what the issue was, the tech said that it had to be plugged in for 24 hours. So he fixed what he thought was the problem and told us to call him back if there were any other problems. So I did and he came out again and fixed whatever else was the issue.

The claims process with American Home Shield is pretty simple now. You can make appointments and stuff online. But I had a couple of emergencies where I had to call my own company and have them come out and do it because I couldn't wait for 48 hours. Overall, just make sure to go over the plans and know what you need coverage for and sign up for the proper package.

Making a claim with American Home Shield is a simple process. But with my AC unit that stopped working, there were some issues getting a company to come out because it was during the heatwave a couple of weeks ago. During the heatwave, it was like 115 degrees. I had to send my family out of town and I had to stay to endure the drama of the heat because I had to continue working. American Home Shield didn't send out someone as soon as possible, which I kinda understood because it was definitely a time that people were calling because of the heatwave that was going on. But it was frustrating at the same time.

American Home Shield should make sure that they understand the severity of each claim. They should have a better understanding of what needs to take place and the urgency behind it. If an AC went out during a heatwave or a heater went out when it was was really cold, there should be understanding of what steps a company should take in order to rectify the situation as soon as possible. They should place themselves in the position of that person or that homeowner and what they're dealing with, especially dealing with the AC that went out during the heatwave. No one wants to endure that. With my claim, South Placer Heating and Air came and they did a good job. It was a quick fix. But coming a week and a half later after the heatwave is not what I would want anyone to deal with. Even last year, I had the same issue as well where the AC went out.

We had a problem with our refrigerator. We called and made a request to have a repairman come out and we paid the service charge. AHS sent me an email with the vendor. I called his number and left a message. He called me and came out the next day, first thing in the morning, and took care of it. He said to call him back if we had any difficulty. Some of the same things came back again. He did all the testing on the refrigerator and said it was operating as it should. We think what happened is that the refrigerator is quite close to the front door and we had excessive heat in this season of over 100. Then the things that were close to the freezer door were not solid. We had popsicles and things like that and they got mushy. Now we moved the things from the front of the freezer to the back of the freezer and that seemed to solve that problem. Plus, we turned up the degrees.

Also, the lights on the refrigerator were out. He said that the bulbs were loose and he tightened them. It was on for a day and the next day after that it was out again. We could call the guy, he's warranted the work, and he would come back out. He was very friendly, very professional, and came out right away. We didn't have to wait a couple days to get scheduled. We were happy with the outcome.

The one before that, we had a plumbing claim. The pipe wasn't exactly broken, but it had a hairline crack in it and it was a hot water pipe so it caused the leak which caused mold on the outside of the drywall, which is how we became aware of the fact that it was leaking at all. The plumber came out and had to cut open the wall, which made a huge mess. Then we had to deal with finding somebody to come and repair the wall. That was a little disconcerting, ‘cause I expected the plumber to repair the wall, but they didn't do that. Other than that, it went fine. The plumber took care of the leak in the wall right away so that part was smooth. The rest of it was a little bit wonky, but that was because we weren't prepared with the next step. We had to make those arrangements ourselves, we just didn't understand that that was gonna be on us.

We were considering taking out a different plan. The plan we have now is for systems. We’re retired and living on Social Security, and it's a big expense to pay. Now they want $61 a month for the whole thing and that's probably not gonna happen. We're probably gonna have to take out another plan to cover systems and not cover appliances. But right now, we're still covered with both the systems and the appliances although I expect we will be making that decision to get rid of the appliance coverage ‘cause it's just too much. Overall, AHS has been responsive and they have good vendors. The problems that we have are unique to the situation and it hasn’t caused us any lasting problems.

When I submit requests, they get canceled by Home Shield for some reason but I never authorized the cancellation. So, the order will go out to the third party that is supposed to come to fix the item. For example, I submitted a request for a garage service, I called the company that Home Shield sent me the email on, and they said, "Oh, Home Shield canceled that," but I never canceled it. I don't know who at Home Shield canceled it, but someone there canceled it.

Furthermore, I can't get everything done one stop by just going on the site and filling out the forms. Because once you click one thing it doesn't let you click multiple areas that you need your fixes for. And I should be able to bundle, under one co-pay, items that are related. That part is troubling because online, I can't do that. And then, I'm forced to sit in a very long queue and talk to someone who doesn't understand what the request is due to language barriers, and they're not willing to listen and hear it out. I can tell that Home Shield is onshore, but the people that I've had problems with are all offshore, and I can tell that they are.

When I called about the garage not being fixed, there were two cases that were open, one for Applied Air and one for the garage. The young lady I spoke with said, "Well, this is no problem. All American Garages, they can fix the issue with..." No, it was an electrical thing. There were three things. Applied Air had to be bucketed separately, and I knew I had to pay a separate 75 for that. Then the other two were supposed to be together because they were all electrical.

All American Garage handles garages and the representative told me, "No, no. All American Garage can do electrical work." I called them. All they do are garages. And everyone knows, if you specialize in garages, and it's called All Garage Repair or All American Garage Repair, you're not gonna do wiring internally inside of the house. Maybe wiring with the garage, but not inside the house on a lighting fixture. That kind of back and forth was frustrating because I tried to explain to Home Shield they specialize in garages, but they told me they do electrical work. And then after they put me on hold forever and they find out, "Oh, no, no, no, they can't do electrical work." "Exactly. I just told that. It's common sense."

The contractors are fine. I feel a little annoyed that I have to remind them to put on booties when they come in people's homes. Putting on the booties is not really doing all that much other than keeping the mud that is on their existing shoe off of my floor and carpeting. But if they have used those same booties at other people's house, they still drag whatever germs on their booties throughout my house. I have to make an extra purchase of my own booties to make them put on my booties when they come in my house. But the quality of work is fine. All the people who came to do service, besides the minor instance where I had to say, "Hey, do you have booties on?" That's just the standard protocol, even before COVID, to not traipse through people's houses with your dirty work boots on.

The refrigerator is not working. I lost everything in it. GE tried to fix it, but they didn't have the part so they gave us an ecard at Home Depot. I like the service from American Home Shield. I called them before and I really didn't have problems getting service, and I didn't really have problems getting service this time other than I waited for about half an hour on the phone. But on follow-up calls, I had to call them six times. They sent me something and I accepted the ecard and they said I'd have it in 24 to 48 hours but there was nothing. When I finally got ahold of them barely 24 to 48 hours, I got to hold them 72 hours later, after holding for an hour and 45 minutes. They told me they had sent me the ecard. So they sent me a letter acknowledging that I accepted the ecard.

I waited for another 24 to 48 hours and I called and sat on the phone for another hour and 40 minutes. It was a long time. Then the AHS rep finally asked for my email and she would send it to me now. Their customer service was terrible. I know it may be due to the pandemic and all, but they're not the only ones. At this point, people are hiding behind it to stop the service to their clients. As a matter of fact, I'm debating whether I'm going to renew with them.

Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the GE that we had was around 3,500 and I settled for 2,100. Apparently, AHS usually has their own supply but they've run out and unfortunately, so has Home Depot. It was a disaster. The refrigerators are backordered until October the 8th and I have little to no confidence that we'll get it on October the 8th.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online because the wait was too long on the phone. It was like an hour's wait. The contractor came and repaired the oven. They said they couldn't repair the microwave. I was told to call somebody and talk about getting a new one, but I cannot get through the line. They're also not open on the weekend. I still haven't been able to get in touch with the people. Overall, as far as getting a repair, the experience was excellent but trying to get an item replaced was awful.

I had two claims around the same time frame. I went online to my American Home Shield to submit the claims and it was super easy. I love working with them. I just tell them what’s wrong, pay $75 for my service fee for the service call, then they assign a company. For these claims, I needed to get the ice maker and refrigerator fixed, and the first company that AHS hired was Nana Appliance Repair. They were the worst company I've ever come in contact with and I put a formal complaint in with American Home Shield for them.

Initially, I called them because I didn't hear from them at first. I told them that I’d like to get on the books immediately and that I have tenants living in the property, so I had to get things done ASAP. They gave me the next day, 8:00 to 12:00 window, but when 8:00 to 12:00 came the next day, the gentleman didn't show up. The technician called me and said he was sorry. He said that he was not available at that time and that they overbooked him. So, he needed to come out the following day. At that point, I lost 48 hours.

Then, the day that he was supposed to come out, he said that they didn't give him enough information for him to get to the property. So he just didn't show up. Then after I told him that that was completely unacceptable, and that this was an emergency as people at the property didn't have water, they put me on a 45 minute wait. They're outsourced in another country, so you have people from India that are answering the phone because it was 2 o'clock pm, which was ridiculous. But it was a very horrible process.

So I contacted American Home Shield and said I would not work with this company. I told them that I needed them to hire a different company, and they did. The guy came out the next day and he fixed the issues within five minutes, so I really had no problem with the second company, AZ Refrigeration Company. That company was great and the second guy that came out was fabulous. All in all, some of the third-party companies that American Home Shield call aren't the most professional. I know that's how home warranties work and I understand why they hire who they hire, but unfortunately, for me, I was unsatisfied with that first company that they sent out because they were so unprofessional.

The air conditioner was working intermittently. If it worked, it was for a short period of time. If I set the thermostat to 75 and cooling temperature to 80, the air conditioner still didn't start. At some point, it could start and stop. That issue was fixed and now, it's working perfectly. It was the same day that I filed the claim that I got in contact with the contractor and they came the next day. This particular case worked perfectly.

We had two leaky faucets - one shower in one bathroom, and the other was a tub faucet that kept leaking in the other bathroom. The tech from Steven Mills Plumbing came out and figured out what was wrong on a Thursday. And then, on Monday, he came back and fixed them very quickly. It was very good. Everything was great. We were happy with Steven Mills. We had AHS in Charleston but we were not happy. So, when we moved here to Myrtle Beach, I was not going get them again. But the homeowner here had already provided it for one year, and we have used them three times since we've been here and it has been great. So, we will keep using them.

South Valley Appliance came out for my refrigerator and it didn't go very well. They said the part worked, and then came out, and then it didn't work again. This is the third time the refrigerator has gone out for the same part. My first claim was back in October. I lost all my food three times and I was not too thrilled. Then I just had them come out to fix the back refrigerator. The guy unplugged it, but he ended up unplugging also my freezer 'cause he had to get back there. And I lost everything in my freezer. I don't wanna lose money on food. It gets expensive after you have to lose so many times. So, it was not the best experience in the world. I reached out to Home Shield and all they told me was that it was a past contract and there was nothing they could do after three months. It's really frustrating because my refrigerator keeps breaking down for the same part over and over again. So, it's not a new problem every time.

I'm not really thrilled about American Home Shield. I've had other claims with them with my washing machine. I thought they’d eventually replace it, but they kept coming out. I had nothing but problems. It seems like they'll fix something and then it just breaks apart again and it's the same issue. They would say that it was just cosmetic, but I'd tell them that something broke at the bottom. They were just waiting for it to break on me and it finally did break. I finally had to get rid of my washing machine. It was so loud and it finally broke to the point that you couldn't even use it when it was only doing a spin cycle.

I work from home and one day, I'd gone outside and I came back in, it was about the same temperature inside as it was outside. Then I got an alert on my phone because I have these electronic thermostats and it said that my air conditioner had been off for four hours. I went and checked and did everything I needed to do to see if there was anything I could fix. At the time, I couldn't get it to come back on. I called AHS and set up an appointment. All these thermostats have these little remote sensors and one of the batteries had gone bad. It wasn't telling the air conditioner to come on. The guy came out and he was knowledgeable and went through my air conditioner. He found a part that was just about ready to go bad and replaced it. I had a good experience this time with them. It hasn't always been that way.

I had an issue where I had a leaky pipe in the bathroom wall. Of course, sometimes, they couldn't get right there. So I had taken the wall down, looked at it, and I found what the problem was. Then the guy showed up and walked in my house and said that there's mold and he couldn't do anything. He turned around and left and AHS said they were gonna charge me $100 for that. They ended up refunding me my money after some arguments. I ended up doing the repair all myself because they said they couldn't deal with mold. They came back out a second time and they still said they couldn't do anything. I had abated it and it was fine. They had also recommended me to a another company to come out and they wanted like 12 grand to abate a space that was in my garage, about 4x4 feet. I felt there was some collusion between companies there. But other than that time, they've taken care of what they said they'll do.

AHS has upgraded where we can put in our orders online. They have done some stuff since I've had them which has made it easier. The main thing is the scheduling of the contractors. Sometimes, they can't get anybody out for a week. And it's your house. There are some things that can't wait a week. Just make sure you get information on what you want covered and what each plan covers 'cause they have different ranges of service. If you want your air conditioner covered, make sure that's in your plan.

My wife and I recently purchased our first home. We were provided by the sellers with American Home Shield for 1 year after we closed escrow (pretty standard). We live in Southern California which is in the midst of a heatwave. It is expected to reach 117 degrees today. Our central air conditioning unit's compressor failed. We had no AC. The company assigned to us for AC repair by American Home Shield was unavailable on Sundays, and it was a Sunday. They had an emergency number which we called but were told we wouldn't be helped for 2 Days. So, we called American Home Shield to find a different company to do the job.

The customer support agent had us on hold for 40 minutes. When he finally came back, he said he had checked with 25 other companies. None were available. Some of them didn't even have voice mail he said. He said that American Home Shield Dispatch would attempt to attempt to locate someone, and that we would hear back in 4 to 24 hours. That wasn't acceptable. So in the meantime, we started looking on our own for someone to do the repairs.

After 3 hours we finally found someone who repair our AC so we called back. Our hope was that because this was an emergency, and because they didn't have the resources to take care of us, that American Home Shield would approve the person we had found and process our request. The customer support agent put my wife on hold for 20 minutes. When they returned their phone connection was terrible - they said they'd call us right back. 15 minutes later, STILL NO CALL. So we called back AGAIN. After the usual 10 minute wait, a customer service agent said "Hello?" and then hung up! So we called AGAIN! 10 more minutes, and we get on the phone with another customer service agent. This agent like all the others said they would "do their best to help" and that "our request would be expedited." We laid out our grievances, the agent apologizes but offers no solution.

We go back and forth. Eventually she says that we would receive a call presenting us with "other options" sometime today. More back and forth, she backpedals to, "in the next 4 hours." At this point, it is clear that this woman (who is just doing her job) cannot resolve our situation.. We urgently need our AC repaired. 117 degrees is severe enough that it the situation is unsafe. We ask to speak to a supervisor. She DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE OUR REQUEST, instead she regurgitates what she's being saying all along "expedited," "4 hours" etc.

This is exhausting! But eventually she says that she will try to contact her supervisor who she only communicates with via CHAT. She would not provide us with a number or an email. And that was it, wait to hear back in 4 hours. This company has INSPIRED NO CONFIDENCE. This whole thing happened over the course of 5 to 6 hours. I do not expect to hear back in 4 hours, but after that time we'll call them back again - probably speak to someone else who is very polite but can't help us because they weren't given the tools to do their job.

The technician from Total Air Care did a wonderful job. But my problem was with American Home Shield. I got another work order request I need to put in. It took me like two days to literally get in contact with someone through customer service. There was water leaking in my garage and inside the house. I started trying to call American Home Shield but I could never get them. I wasn't able to get with them until a couple of days later. After I made the claim, the guy came out about four days later and he did a wonderful job. But the problem was that it took me so long to get in contact with American Home Shield. That water was leaking so much that it really destroyed my garage. So now, I had to file a claim to get my insurance to fix it. If I could have got in contact with the guy earlier, it wouldn't have done that much damage.

It didn't matter what time I called American Home Shield. They just kept me on hold. They should have called me in 35 or 40 minutes. Then after 40 minutes, the phones went dead. It just kept going on and on. Finally, someone called me three days later. But even though this guy from Total Air Care did a wonderful job, he lived two hours away. We have someone that’s also a contractor that lives right around the corner. He told me that he was contracted up with American Home Shield. So I tried to tell the guy that I was on the phone with about this contractor but he wouldn't let me go with him. That right there was really aggravating me. He was just rude for customer service. Also, this guy on the phone sounded like a foreigner and I couldn't understand a lot of things that he was saying.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a year. I liked them as far as the service that the guy did, but I was very disappointed because the wait time was ridiculous. It just became frustrating. I also tried to file a claim online before but they were saying something about my account wasn't valid, which I didn't understand. I went back and checked my payment and my payment was coming out. So I didn't understand why they were saying that. We also have my garage door stop working. But I’ve been busy and I don't feel like going through this long wait line again.

American Home Shield is nice to have and at the time when I did it, the other ones didn't offer as much coverage. Just like having your car, you need some insurance in case something happens. Sometimes I don't have the money right off the bat to pay for a repair, but sometimes they got me thinking, "Should I just put this money away and buy the stuff?" I had three jobs this last season. To let them know what's going on and what my requirements are, I talk to the person on the other end of the line, but they are hard to get ahold of. I spend hours on line waiting and then the call drops when I start talking to the person. It's a waste of my time and I don't have that much time to sit around on the phone and wait.

This last person I spoke with was from Trinidad and some of the times, they are people from the Philippines. American Home Shield tells me who they're gonna send, and they try to send the cheapest guys. With the type of reviews they have when you google them (2 stars), they're not entering my place. Also, when people show up, they're not showing up ready to work and there are also people showing up who were not even on the schedule. At first, the documentation came in for Sears, but there were two other companies that showed up to my doorstep without even calling me. That was the first thing that I didn't like. Because nowadays, you can't take a chance with people coming to your door.

When Sears showed up, they came a little bit unprepared and they were coming from 100 miles away. They wanted to enter my place without putting on any kind of disposable shoe cover, and that's one of my pet peeves. I'm a service business owner myself and that's one of the things that I do. They gotta show up with boot covers. They can't just show up, go into people's house and bring all kinds of contaminants in the place. I always tell American Home Shield before they send somebody to make sure these people show up with that and now with the COVID, they got to comply with the COVID-19 protocol.

Sears went back and got something, but I shouldn't have to be telling them to do that. To show up prepared when they enter somebody's property should be standard operating procedure. That's what I do. Other than that, Sears did excellent work. They did their inspection and provided me the information of what's going on with the components. They passed the information on to American Home Shield, but I didn't know if I'm the one who's supposed to call them after the guy told them that the equipment can't be repaired. I talked to the guy this time and I had to spend another four hours on line trying to get ahold of somebody from American Home Shield. It's not good for me. Overall, there's a lot more room for improvement on the issues that I just mentioned.

I called out Draingo to fix one thing and then there was something else they found while they were fixing it. They noticed that something was broken on my flipping between the shower and the bathtub thing. They said I had to put a new order in for that so I did. I had to pay out my co-pay twice, which was kind of annoying because they were just unclogging a drain the first time. I didn't know how to do that so they kinda showed me how to do it.

American Home Shield's website would be better if you could put more specifically what you're needing. Right now, it just says some basic things, but it doesn't really let you put notes in where you can specifically say what is going on. They don't have this category which would've been helpful. The contractor kept on saying that it was not part of what they were here for and they wanna tell you to put in a new claim if they find something else wrong when they're in there doing that. If they're in here fixing this one thing, then shouldn't that all be connected to the one thing?

The first time that I put a claim in online, it did allow me to do two different things because we had two different things going on. They were both really minor things to fix. But the second time I put in a claim, I don't remember seeing an option for a second thing to be added. But I wasn't really trying to add a second thing, so I didn't look very hard. I wish that I had called. It would've been a much better option. Also, I didn't like the contractor that came out.

When the plumber was here for the second time, he said it was messed up in there. I told him that he should be able to fix that because he was in there fixing that problem to begin with. He said there was a small leak inside the little plumbing issue that was causing that little drain thing that pushes between the lever that keeps it from going from shower to bathtub. He told me he was not supposed to do that on this service charge and that I would have to call again because it was a different problem. He was trying to say that I was gonna have to pay another copay. I argued with him until he kind of said that he would fix it. I told him I've already done two claims. I was out $200 this week alone for him to come out here twice and I was not doing another claim. That made me feel like it was scammy.

They did not tell me that the first time they were here that I could've just added the second issue to that first ticket instead of having to pay out $200. So I'm not real crazy about these folks. When the plumber was in there messing with it, I could hear him griping and complaining about it. He was acting mad that he was gonna fix that extra problem he found while he was in there. He was acting like that was against his policy to do so. The whole thing was crazy. I didn't have a great experience.

When my realtor asked who I wanted to use, I told him that I used American Home Shield at the first house. He then said that he'd get a kickback of $25 if I went with them and I told him to switch us to it. After I moved in, there was a leak at one of the pumps in my pool and I filed a service request with AHS. The techs they sent out worked really well. They aren't based here in Waco, so they asked me to take pictures of all of my system. They said they could see the crack and that they'd see what the fix was going to be, which was fantastic. Then, they brought out more stuff even those that I necessarily needed though they took that stuff back because I didn't need it. But because I was able to send them all pictures, they had all the right stuff when they came out and had the issue fixed in 90 minutes tops once they got here. So, no complaints at all.

Other than that, at our old house, we used American Home Shield for pretty much all of our stuff but we knew what we were getting into in the first place, that instead of getting things fixed, we would oftentimes take the buyout, then buy a new version of the thing. We recognized that that was probably the smartest way to use it. We were also very happy with the air conditioner that we got as a result of it, but the air conditioning company that we went through the first time said that they wouldn't be able to work with us at the new house using the home warranty if we had a problem because they no longer do home warranty stuff. They didn't specify what company did it, but that they felt like they were constantly getting nickel and dimed by the home warranty folks.

The warranty company wouldn't let them fix things for real when they actually needed to be fixed. They instead would say to fill it with Freon and just call it good. The techs would say that it was going to leak out in four months but they would say that they didn't care. So, the AC company just got out of American Home Shield, which is too bad because we really liked those folks. They were really good and we were glad that we got to use them on the first house. And hopefully, we won't have air conditioning problems here and we won't have to use anyone on the second house.

After Hours Plumbing was awesome. I had problems with my kitchen sink and a leaky pipe in my basement. The reps came out and fixed them both quickly. Everything was perfect. They wore their mask and they were very nice. They said that normally, they would shake hands, but they were not going to because of the pandemic. So, they were very straightforward about it. It was great. They were super professional and I would have them back for any more plumbing issues I have. I've had American Home Shield for three years, so I've used it a couple times. On my first year, I called them once or twice, and then I didn't use them last year. This current year, I've used them once. When submitting claims, I've called them and I’ve done it online too. It’s easy to figure out. I recommend them to all my friends that are buying houses. My friends who have bought houses and used it have liked the service as well.

We had a storm and when the lightning struck, it burned the wires on the air conditioning. It went up to 90 degrees inside the house. I used the online service like I always do to submit a claim with AHS and their website worked very well. The problem happened on a Friday evening and I was called the next working day, which was on a Monday. The tech they sent out said that he had to replace the wiring on there to the compressor and the air is working now. He was professional and he took care of the job. AHS was also very professional.

The upstairs AC was no longer cooling. The contractors that came for it were really good. They always came out when they say they would. Everything went fine. They also kept me updated, so I was very pleased. I've never had a problem with AHS. It's all worked out very well. They do what they say they're gonna do. They've got everything well organized. They got different levels of service that we purchase and we get what we pay for.

I really appreciate Home Shield's services. They’re very prompt and I like the fact that I can set up the claim online. I had a plumbing claim and I had a little bit of an issue with the contractor, Plumbers Inc, because they didn't reach out to me. I initiated the contact and they said something like they tried to reach me but I never saw any messages or anything from them. But once I reached out to them, they went ahead and scheduled.

They were good in scheduling the appointment. It was a fairly quick process. They came out and they thought they fixed the leak that we were having from the bathroom on the second floor down to the first floor. It looked like it worked for like a day. Then the next day, we saw a bunch of water in the library on the floor coming from the shower upstairs. We’ve been putting a bucket there to catch the leak ever since because we need to use the shower. The second time they came out, they didn't have an available schedule so I had to wait for about a week last Friday. When they came out, they said they needed to buy a part so we're still dealing with that issue. But as a whole, I appreciate the fact that the warranty is very prompt and they deal with things quickly.

We never know if things in our house are repairable or if we should start planning to replace them or not. It is nice to feel that we've got it budgeted in to have things looked at if they start acting out. Home Shield gives us a little more confidence about reaching out to get help to get things looked at. It makes it manageable. When submitting claims, I look at the website and get an idea of what might be covered. Then, I give them a description and they usually have somebody contact me within 24 hours. Washington Electrician Service came out for an electric issue and it was a loose wire but the outlets seemed to not work all the time. They came back out and did another check. They explained everything to me and I'm completely satisfied.

My most recent claim was a repair on our water heater. I did it online and the person assigned to it called me within 30 minutes. He was pretty good. We've been having problems with the water heater where the pilot light was going out quite often and hefinally replaced the whole ignition panel. The guy had me take a few pictures the night before and send it to him. He had the part with him and it was ready to go. He had it done within a few hours. I was really impressed with the whole process in general. It was nice not having to jump through hoops and get through things like we did with our previous home warranty company.

American Home Shield is very good. They do what they say they'll do. The claim submission was very easy when my air conditioner leaked. Then Sears came out and fixed it. It was wonderful. It was a great experience and we liked it and we would recommend it.
