Our AC had stopped working on a Saturday. The contractors called us within 45 minutes from the time I put a claim in with AHS. They were very busy and the next available time for them to come out was on a Tuesday. They came out on Tuesday to fix it. They fixed it right away. Within a couple of days, it died down. They said there was a loose wire. But it's been working fine. They were friendly and professional.
Thanks for your feedback. We love to hear when we have provided fast and provided fast and professional service. And we are always here if you need us.

I had two claims that I filed with American Home Shield and one of them I paid by check to the company that came out, one of them I paid online. That’s when I kept getting bills for those two, like I never paid them. Finally, I just had to get a copy of my canceled check and I had to get a proof from the website that I actually paid for them to quit bugging me about it. Recently, the guy from Allstate Plumbing came out and fixed several sinks. He left, but then it started leaking right away again and it progressively got worse. A different company came out and fixed it. They were wearing a mask and never really got real close. No handshaking or anything. I hope that if there's an issue, like with something doesn't work, AHS should make it a little easier to reschedule or talk to somebody.
The warranty company was miserable to work with. I would call and they tell me my hold time was over an hour, and I could request a callback. Then I would request that and it would be at least an hour before they called me back. Then the one time the lady called me back, she could barely speak English. She kept putting me on hold to re-verify the same information over and over. Finally I just hung up and I tried to call back and do it again online. I waited an additional week to have someone get out because I couldn't deal with it. I’m locked in with American Home Shield because of the contract.

I like how easy it is for us to put in a claim online. I don’t have to call or wait for inordinate amount of time. When the microwave wasn't heating, I did the claim online and the techs were really fast and prompt. They were able to identify the problem. They were great.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

The dishwashing machine is broken and if you press start, the cycle is not moving at all. I went online to notify AHS and their website was okay. When the contractor came out, he was good and right now, I'm waiting for the job to be done. The man put the order in and said they would give me a call.

I was out of town and it was 110 degrees at my home. My wife heard a loud pop and our AC quit working. The fan motor of the unit vibrated and it gave out. The wires got hit by the fan which then cut the wires out. Comfort King, one of American Home Shield's contractors, got sent out in a day or two. When their tech came out, he put a new fan in. Then, we were up and running. He was a really nice guy. The service really needed because the AC broke down on the hottest day of the year. AHS's warranty has been a very good business acquisition for me.

I wanted the house rekeyed and it was covered under the warranty with American Home Shield. Their website was great and it was really easy to use. The only thing that I found a little surprising was that when I clicked on rekey service, it didn't give me a list of people to pick from. It just picked one and I didn't get to research the guy's reputation or anything. But the guy from Lang’s Locks contacted me within three hours and came out within 24 hours and did great work. He gave us a two-hour window and showed up at that time. He also wore a mask. It was five or six doors he had to do and he rekeyed all of them. He also needed me to go buy a new lock so that they were all the same brand and they could all be rekeyed. But that wasn't part of the claim.
I was blown away by how quick and how easy the experience was. In fact, that one incident has already had me talking to three or four people about it. Our real estate agent said that AHS is the best. I was also just talking to an air conditioning installation guy and he asked me what home warranty we had, and I said it was American Home Shield. And he said that they were the best. So, I feel pretty good about American Home Shield.

I've had American Home Shield twice. The first time was from 2001 to 2004 and recently, probably 2019. I like that they cover a lot. Recently, Sunbelt Electric came in very quickly and fixed the electric breaker that tripped. The technician was professional and friendly.

I had to file my claim for the spa with Home Shield online. They wouldn’t answer the phone. It was fairly easy but after I paid the bill, they kept on saying I owe money and then later, told me to ignore it and that I had already paid. Coastal Pool Repairs came out and they did a good job. The only thing was they replaced the filter and I didn't realize the tech put the whole thing in the backyard. I realized afterward the filters are gone. I only bought them a couple of months ago and they were 200 bucks.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Please let us know if you need if you need assistance. Have an amazing week.

The dryer had stopped working and it took a week for someone to come out. The tech from Sears determined that it was from some kind of thermal fuse that was out and he replaced it. So it has been fine ever since. I've had American Home Shield for at least seven years and I like how they're responsive and I don't have to pay top dollar to get my appliances repaired. They also choose the contractor for me, so it's nice.

When I moved to this house a year ago, I needed extra keys and Home Shield sent somebody who made me keys. I was very happy with that. A couple of months ago, a faucet was leaking and their contractor replaced it. Home Shield just charged me the $75 service fee. I was happy with that too. When my water heater was leaking, I submitted a claim for it. I was charged the $75 for someone to come and tell me that yes indeed, it needed to be replaced because it was more than 10 years old. The people who came were pretty professional. I received a call from the company that I have to pay $1,200. But it seemed like my policy does not cover the cost of my broken water heater. I just took the company's words. They came from Home Shield.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield was super easy. I was able to go online and put in a request for it. Then within a couple of minutes, I got confirmation that somebody was gonna be coming out. Then somebody from the Rekey called me to set up an appointment. I submitted two other claims as well. So far, the experiences have all been positive. AHS has been quick and efficient. They also send out good contractors and they get the problem fixed.

There was a bad coil on the AC and the contractor had to order it to put in there and replace it. It took almost two weeks and I wasn't satisfied with the timeframe of how long it took to get the parts. But once they got it, they were phenomenal. When they came, they wore masks and they were covered. They always asked if it was okay to come in. We were not around and the way that the house was designed, they had to go upstairs and downstairs. So, we gave them free range. As of today, the AC is perfect.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for well over a year and we have them at a rental property as well. We’ve never had issues there and this was my first time ever having to use it. I was a little disappointed initially with AHS because when I placed the claim, I tried to make a follow-up a couple of times, and I got hung up on. I don't know if it was purposely or accidentally but whenever I left the request, they didn't call me back. Nobody went above and beyond to figure out why it was taking so long so I ended up talking to the company myself. If someone asked me for companies that did home warranties, I would let them know who AHS is but I wouldn't recommend them.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

Recently, I called AHS ‘cause my garage door wouldn't go up. My car is stuck in the garage. I had to call somebody to bring me to my appointment on Saturday and AHS doesn't have anyone to come out until Tuesday. So, I'm waiting patiently till tomorrow. Someone is scheduled to come. I also submitted a claim for the toilet that was leaking. The service I had with the gentleman that came for the plumbing, he did excellent work. I had no problems. He was in and out. He found the issue. He was able to fix it and put the new part on. I haven't had any problems with the contractors of AHS. I’ll recommend AHS. I haven't had any issues with them.

When I turned the dishwasher on, the garbage disposal went at the same time. I called American Home Shield and I sat on hold for a couple hours because I needed stuff done. I was able to get through and the reps were thorough. AHS has always been good about getting contractors out within the next few days. The gentleman who came out from Specialty Services got the job done quickly and he was professional. I had a total gut job of my kitchen because there’s some water damage that my homeowners' insurance just jacked me on. So, everything had to be done over. It was top-of-the-line service.
I’ve been with AHS for about six years and they’re awesome. I’d tell everybody about my experience with American Home Shield. So, I never would have anything negative to say about them. Some of the contractors that came out were a little different and they wanna piecemeal things together. But American Home Shield is great. My daughter has somebody else and it's cheaper, but I can't switch.

He explained the plumbing issue to me and a part had to be replaced so he said he would be back in a few days when the new part comes in. He came back and replaced the part so he did quite well. He took very good care of it. So, we're very happy with it. I like American Home Shield so far. They respond well and they seem to have good vendors. So when somebody comes out, they seem very qualified as well as these people.

Everything with The Lindsay Company went very well. We've requested them this time because we've used them once or twice in the past. They're very professional and very quick to respond to the initial work order. So, it was a good experience. The issue was a broken plastic piece inside the faucet, and it was causing it to leak. They had the part.
Overall, I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. The claim process was very quick and easy. That's probably one of the best things about it. There's been another service request since. I was on hold for 47 minutes and never got through. The second time, I waited on hold for almost an exact hour and then it took me another 30 minutes to complete the call. But that issue is still not fixed. Their two technicians didn't even answer their calls. Their voicemail is full. We're having to try to figure out whether they'll refund it. We had to call in our own person.

SAP Services came out for a plumbing claim and the technicians were professional and friendly. But when the kids shower, I'm still seeing water coming underneath the baseboard from the shower into one of the kids’ bedrooms. I had another claim when I had a problem with the AC, which finally got resolved. Once the AC quit working, the technician came out and fixed it but it stopped working. It was hard to get ahold of a human person with American Home Shield. Everything seemed to be automated and there was no way to get in touch with an actual human. I couldn’t do anything on the side of AHS so I had to wait until the AC place opened up the next day.

We had a bunch of locks rekeyed which was a service that came with American Home Shield. The technician from The Flying Locksmith was great and he was on time. The guy went above and beyond because he was so professional and courteous. Everything was seamless. I realized though that the 125 that I was charged for the call was exactly what it would’ve cost me anyway if I called them directly or any other locksmith. So, AHS didn't provide any value in that as far as the money it took to do that. Still, it was convenient and easy, and I had no issues. But in the future, I would just call The Flying Locksmith directly.
I had a horrible experience with American Home Shield on my second call with them and cancelled. I put a complaint to Better Business Bureau as well. When I had an issue, it took almost a week to get somebody out there and the person who came out was insanely unprofessional. I didn't feel comfortable with that person in my house. He was complaining about American Home Shield on the phone with me before even going out there. His review of the issues were completely bogus. This guy was saying he was gonna have to tear apart my wall to fix the problem. I ended up getting two more opinions from contractors outside of the AHS warranty plan who fixed it for a very small amount of money.
I complained about this to American Home Shield and they didn't take it seriously at all. They said it was gonna cost me $125 to have somebody else go out there and there was no guarantee that that person would have something different. When I called other contractors, they said they all stopped doing business with AHS because they had trouble getting paid by them. The process to submit claims was extremely difficult that they spend so much time doing that and they couldn't earn any money. So, any reputable contractors do not work with American Home Shield in my area and they don't care about that.
I called again the Monday proceeding this to cancel within 30 days of signing up for the service which is said to provide a full refund on what has been paid for the "subscription" up to that point. I explained the entire situation to the "retention department". They right away offered a full refund for the $125 service call. I said thank you for that but that I still wanted to cancel for my full refund since I did not want to go through that every time I needed service. They confirmed I was within 30 days and qualified for a full refund.
A few days later I received a call from someone at AHS about my BBB complaint. I re-explained everything and he also did not take it seriously at all. While on the phone, I checked my credit card and account to see if my refund had processed. Not only did it not process, but I was charged a cancellation fee and for an additional month of service!! It took two hours explaining to this person that these charges were bogus and that I had already cancelled and been confirmed a full refund. I was put on hold until he finally came back and apologized for everything and said I'd be refunded the cancellation fee, and refunds for all the subscription charges along with the $125 service fee for AC.
Another couple days later, someone called me from AHS and told me I would NOT get a full refund because I used a service call within the 30 days. THIS IS INSANE. They advertise a full refund within 30 days. But if you try out the service with a service call within the first 30 days, you unknowingly give up the guaranteed refund!!! How are you even supposed to know if you'd want to cancel if you never used the service to find out the service is unacceptable?! This should be illegal. What's worse, is they only tried to withhold my refund AFTER they noticed my BBB complaint.
It is two weeks since cancelling and they are still withholding my full refund. I have joined a class action lawsuit in the works and will not give up seeking damages until this company treats me with some humility and respect by issuing me my full refund.
Thanks for providing your feedback. I hate that that we were not able to meet your expectations while the contract was active. We hope this does not discourage you from considering us for your future home warranty needs.

I have a problem with STL Plumbing, which I ended up calling American Home Shield one day late. The guy turned it on, turn it off and walked out my house. But I don't have a problem with F6 Plumbing. I had a light switch in the bedroom that was not coming on and then the light in the bathroom as well as on the kitchen were flickering. I made a request by phone and the people that came out to work on it were okay even though they didn't put the switch in the bedroom back the way it was. They fixed the light in there, but they said they didn't know if putting a dimmer on was approved. My bedroom light had a dimmer and the button for the fan, and they took that off and put on a regular one, which you just flick it up and down. Overall, when I had a problem, I called and American Home Shield sent someone out to fix it. However, I would not recommend this to a friend because I have a contract that I have never seen.
I never received the contract from American Home Shield and I called every month for almost six months and asked them to send it. It had gotten to a point where I thought they were discriminating against handicapped people because they said I could go online and get it. I told them that I could not go online. I wanted them to mail my contract and I explained my situation to them about me not being able to do stuff online because of the print. I'm blind in one eye, so it's difficult for me to read. I even talked to a couple of supervisors.
I called a couple of weeks ago and they told me they didn't see why the contract couldn't be sent out and I would receive it in 10 days. It's now going into 20 days and I'm still waiting. They also renewed my contract for a second year and I would like to know what I'm paying for. I have American Home Shield on direct pay from my bank and I have a problem with people being able to take my money and not send me a contract. Judge Judy said you still would get a contract.

American Home Shield sent Pierson Mechanical out for an AC issue. There was a part and they fixed that. But then, I'm still having the other issue. I could sit in my recliner in my family room, and right above me, I can tell the minute the air conditioner kicks on because the lights dim and then I get this buzzing sound. It happens in the garage too.
The electrician was a very nice man, and he tried to find it but he's an older age and he didn't wanna climb up in the attic. My son did, and there's a wall there. So if we find the problem is there, then we're gonna have to cut a hole there. But he said they were gonna send Archer Electrical, and I haven't heard from anybody. They can’t find out where the problem is coming from. He did a great job at looking at it. He checked my fuse box,and it’s in good shape. Doing a claim with American Home Shield is very easy. But I hate that $100 every time you call. That’s a pretty high fee, but in case your air conditioner goes out, it’s gonna be worth it.

Water was leaking out of the faucet so the technician came out. He saw the faucet and said it was beyond repair. At first he advised me to call the manufacturer because he thought that there was a lifetime warranty but the manufacturer didn't provide lifetime warranty because the ownership had changed. So I called American Home Shield back and told them warranty was not covered. They sent some folks back the next couple days and they replaced it with another part. The refrigerator all of a sudden started warming up all on its own. There was one time but we didn't call where it went off. That was my secondary refrigerator. I have a refrigerator in the garage that American Home Shield covers as an additional refrigerator. My army buddy who is an electrician came up and checked the plug. He said the plug and everything's okay. He unplugged it, plugged it back in, and it worked perfectly fine.
This time, instead of it just going off, it was still on but it was not cooling and everything inside was beginning to melt. In Hawaii, sometimes American Home Shield only deals with one person that only comes to my side of the island on Wednesday. By the time the contractor came, it was working perfectly fine so he could not tell what was wrong. But this is an older refrigerator and we were having a problem with the door. American Home Shield always wants to go to cheapest route which is a $200 door instead of replacing it. They had shipped about 10 doors and it all came damaged. In fact, the technician said GE’s not shipping doors to Hawaii without extra padding anymore because it's gotten too expensive.
After all that time and waiting, they got us a new refrigerator. But that refrigerator was still working fine. We kept it for the garage and we didn't need the icemaker. American Home Shield said they'll cover it. There's got to be something wrong with this refrigerator. I'm at the point I'm ready to get rid of it and tell American Home Shield I'm not paying them to cover something that we can't figure out what's going on.
When I was in California, to send somebody out 10 times for my stove is so stupid when the technician said from the beginning the parts are no longer available anywhere. It needed to be replaced. American Home Shield's policy is typical of an insurance. They want the cheapest way out. But the thing is the cheapest way out is to listen to the technicians that they send. They’re the other people that know better. It's like getting into a car accident. Are they going to just repair my tire when they know they have to replace the door ‘cause somebody hit it? Who wants to be confused going back and forth to the body shop because all of a sudden the insurance company says, "I’ll fix your door now,” then tomorrow they say, “I’ll fix your windshield now.” But this is what American Home Shield does.
We paid our deductible and the technician said we have a 60-day warranty. If we call them within 60 days they'll come back and look at it. But who knows if it will go bad in 60 days? That means it will cost me another $90. I could take this freaking machine and throw it in the trash and not pay American Home Shield to cover it. I don't need a fancy refrigerator ‘cause it's in the garage. It doesn't even have to have ice water and ice. It could be an old fashioned refrigerator. But it's gonna take four, five trips for them to do it. That’s like what happened with the door. How many doors had to get shipped to Hawaii that were damaged? American Home Shield would go, “Oh, the doors are all coming.” But they're all coming damaged.
I've been dealing with American Home Shield for years and I've nothing wrong with the technicians. But they would say, "We'll be there sometime between 12:00 and 4:00.” That means I got to take a day off of work. I used to work 30 miles away so that means a day off. The stove was one of those all-in-one unit stove and microwave. They don't even make those anymore. The technician said he would not be able to get a thermostat for it anymore. But American Home Shield told him to Jimmy rig it and see. Two weeks later, it was the same problem. How many days off do I have to take to get American Home Shield to understand the reason they send these technicians out? They are the experts, not the person sitting behind that desk.
Nobody from American Home Shield comes out. American Home Shield isn’t an insurance. They don't send an adjuster. They rely on the technician. If they're going to rely on the technician, they should pay attention to what the technician says. Why doesn't American Home Shield accept what the technicians say? There are some times you can put a part and it would work. That's fine. But if the technician looks, does an evaluation and says, “I can't get that stuff anymore,” then why is American Home Shield still sending him back and forth, back and forth? You have to make four trips and waste my time for it. I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield to somebody. They have done good, but in doing good, there’s a sacrifice.

The guy from Diluzio Construction was very professional. He did distancing and wore a mask as well. I was off work and I called in, and then I heard from him within an hour of his receiving American Home Shield's request. He was there that afternoon and it was totally repaired. I was so pleased. I couldn't believe how fast it was and it was awesome. I was so thrilled as well because I didn't know what was going on. The unit would work from the inside but it wouldn’t work from the outside.
I just had my refrigerator also and Sears did a wonderful job. It was purely perfect and it's fixed but then I had to wait 11 days. I called on the 18th and my service was the 28th. I have medical conditions and medications that have to be stored in a refrigerator. It was a fiasco. Still, the contractor was exceedingly knowledgeable and had everything taken care of. It took him a couple of hours and he had to go get parts too. He was that good.

Our heater needed replacing. ABNation replaced it and did a wonderful job. It's crazy because a week later the pump went out. They came back out and replaced the pump. From the beginning, there was a misunderstanding with the pool. I spoke to the guy and we came to an agreement. I felt that $300 was too much for them to come out and do the work. I thought so because I didn't think I would get my own electrician for a couple of things that Home Shield wasn't covering. So, my wife and I talked about it and I said, "You know, we had American Home Shield for so long and they stand behind your work. Let's just go ahead and have it done instead of including another person." So, he came back out and did a wonderful job.
From the beginning, I felt Home Shield gave me the runaround because nobody could come to an agreement. And then I backed out, so it put the claim on hold, because I didn't want to pay the $300. And then the tech sent all the parts back, so we had to wait again. It put it in the loop of, "I have to get the parts again." When I look at it, I should have just went ahead and did it from the beginning. We would have had done it over. I complained. I called and was a little upset with it. But it all panned out good.
I had a problem with American Home Shield 10 years ago. I changed the company and said, "I'm not gonna use them no more," because I was dissatisfied. I got another company but I canceled them in two months and called back American Home Shield. That's why they are the best company out there. They are awesome. I don't care where you go.

The technician came out to fix a leaking toilet. He notified when he was gonna be there. He took a picture underneath it, opened it and told me what was going on with the toilet. He tightened a screw and that was it. It's working fine and I'm satisfied. I was gonna call American Home Shield first and tell them what was going on so I didn't have to waste the $75 for the visit but it was very difficult to get through. It's as if they wanna be automated. It's very challenging dealing with American Shield to get an actual person. Sometimes you have the call back option when you call but sometimes it's not there.
I had a problem when the contractor came out to fix my pool. They only fixed the motor. They didn't even check the rest of it. There was a leak on one of the connections. They were very good and quick but they never reported that I had a leak. It's like I have to pay $75 every time American Home Shield sends somebody instead of a technician saying, "Hey, you have this wrong with this too. I could just fix that." It's kinda like a rip-off that you gotta notify them exactly what's wrong with it. I'm not a technician so I can't tell them what's wrong with it.

My microwave almost exploded, and American Home Shield gave me an option to purchase. The process of submitting my claim was easy. I just went online and sent them a message. I put in a service request. They answered that and gave me the name and number of the contractor. I called Sears, they set up the appointment, and the repairman came out and looked at it. He said it can't be fixed and must be replaced. Sears called American Home Shield and told them that it had to be replaced. So, a day later, AHS gave me an option. If I went out and bought my own and brought it back and had them install it, they would give me a certain amount of money. That was what they did. I went out and bought the new microwave, had the Sears repairman come back out and install it. Everything works good now.
The repairman was great, very friendly, knowledgeable and knew what he was doing. In about 30 minutes, he was n and out. In the beginning, when I first renewed my option for American Home Shield, I was a little skeptical. I just bought the house and it was a year. I was skeptical that maybe I wouldn't need them. But I decided to go ahead and do it and I'm sure glad I did. They stepped up, and they took very good care of me.

I went back downstairs, checked the unit, and it was froze over in the furnace blowing off right where the condenser is. I submitted the claim and the guy, Eric, came out and did the work on it. The freon was low in there then he had to replace the capacitor. Eric was super awesome. Now that I've used American Home Shield, it was super easy. We have been working with American Home Shield for over 2 weeks for a broken water heater. The wait time takes at least 2 hours on the phone every time we have called. If we put for a call back they do not call back. They sent someone out and they spend 3 minutes looking at it. Didn’t even try to start it. We requested second opinion and they found multiple issues. They went to the warranty company with their findings. American Home Shield when we call everyday says they can’t help but it’s covered. But they will not allow the contractor to replace it. We have had NO hot water for 2 weeks now and they won’t make it a priority. They also are charging us double as it wasn’t fixed the first time so they are charging another service fee to send someone else out.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I would not recommend American Home Shield. The first time I needed to use them my Air Conditioner went out. So I paid my monthly fee plus the $100 to have someone come look at the Air Conditioner. The Condenser or Compressor went out and I was told that American Home Shield does not cover any of the Freon or the caps to have the Air Conditioner repaired. So I was told if I repaired the Air Conditioner I would still have to pay an additional $900. This was going to be a cost every time this situation happened so it may be better to purchase a new Air Conditioner. American Home Shield covered $550 for the $9,264 New Air Conditioning Unit.
Since American Home Shield value did not seem cost effective I called to try to cancel. The first time I was told 2 hours and 45 minute wait and had it set for them to call me back. I finally got on the phone with someone who got all my information and then transferred me to account retention before I could cancel. I was on another hold for 20 minutes when Asia answered from account retention. I gave her my phone number, my email address and my home address and as she was talking she stopped and the phone went dead. I figured she had my number and all my information and would call me back, however that did not happen.
Went through all the steps once again and finally spoke to Alex in account retention. I was told total cost of cancellation contract was $180.40 plus Administration Fee for Cancellation of $49.99. I said when I signed up for American Home Shield I was under no contract and could cancel at any time. I was told that is true. They do not have contracts but this is my fee and asked if I wanted to pay it now. Since I was set up for auto pay I reluctantly paid what was needed to cancel with American Home Shield. Do not believe when they say no contract and easy cancel whenever you want. Not as true as American Home Shield makes it out to be when you sign up. I had a terrible experience to cancel with American Home Shield. Then when they call to ask for a review if you give a bad one they do not put it up and you cannot do anything about it on the website or other places. They do it themselves.

I have had a AHS warranty on my primary residence for over 3 years. In that time, we have had a few issues with our refrigerator (that's another unfortunate review). We have called and been able to deal with response that took days or so and gotten through with the use of the fridge. We wake one morning to find the whole refrigerator dead. We know it's the fuse system, we have had this issue before and we know what the problem is, but AHS submitted my claim online but had nobody to talk to. Not clear on who was coming and when. At this point in the day I have thrown out about $600 in food. So I either got someone who is going to come soon and tell me the good/bad news...or in this case, we have to wait 8 DAYS! Well, that takes the cake. Let's see here, I will do the math for you.
$576 x 3 years = $1,728.
$100 - the cost for each time you call for service = $300.
$600 in lost foods.
$300 + $1,728 + $600 = THE COST OF A VERY HIGH END REFRIGERATOR THAT WON'T BREAK ON YOU!
Cancelling service and no longer buying these warranties, they are a rip off because they get to determine when someone comes and you have no control over it. Even then, 2 of the 3 times we had service techs, they had to go order parts...
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

The 3 times a technician did arrive he spent no more than 10 minutes on a call.
I called AHS to request a new service provider and cancel the one they previously contracted. I spent a total of 4 hours and 15 minutes on the phone with AHS most of which was sitting on hold. The rest was being given false promises of refunds and call backs that I never received. American Home Shield does not have direct phone numbers that you can call without awaiting transfers. Their employees have no e-mail capability and you never talk to the same employee twice. The only problem I had with AHS was we had another service with them with the garage door opener and it was not repaired. I had to call and find out how to go about the next step because step one didn't work. There was nothing on their website that allowed me to do that. There was just calling them and the wait time was about 40 minutes for them to call me back. There was also trying to figure out what was covered and what was not from this particular item. AHS should make it easier to access somebody if there is an additional question or problem. They should have more explanation online or a way to go online just to contact them to get some information.

We're living in an older house and it has a ceiling kitchen. They had the long lightbulbs and there were eight of them in a big square up on the ceiling type of thing, and we were having issues. When we turned the one switch on, it would take forever for some of the lights to come on. So, we changed the bulbs ourselves. But that still didn't work. Someone suggested that more likely though, on the end of it, it might be burning out and that was what causing the light bulbs to burn out. Finally, we got tired of waiting for the light to come on. It’d come on for a while, wait 10 minutes, and the rest of the lights would come on. So, I just called AHS and Hoffman Electric came out. The guy changed the whole thing. He upgraded it from the old stuff we had up to the new light bulbs to where he said we’d never have to change it.
When the guy came out the first day, he didn't realize that we had such a big light thing. He only brought out all but three of the lights. He said that he would have to order them because the lights that he brought weren't the size that we needed. The one we had wasn't what normally what everybody else got. So, about a week later, he called back and said that they had the new lights, and that they were gonna bring them out.
The guy came out and put the lights in. But he miscounted ‘cause there were eight lights that he needed and he only brought six. That was okay since he got the main ones done. It worked beautifully. He did a fantastic job. He apologized and said he would have to order the other lights. But he changed everything, all up and running. He came up about a week later and put in the last two lights. And we've had no problem since. He cleaned it all up and put those little shelving things that hide the light bulbs back just like it was. He was very polite and very professional. He was there right to the minute when he said he was gonna be. He explained everything when he first came out as to what we needed and what he was gonna do.
I love these lights. They’re not really bright, but they're good enough. You can see what you're cooking anyway and we will never have to change it. I'm 72 and I'm not the greatest on getting up on a ladder. My husband can't do it anymore ‘cause he's not as strong with his legs. And I hate to keep calling my nephew ‘cause he's got a life and he doesn't really know any of this stuff that we may need.
This is the second time and that American Home Shield has saved us lots of money. The people that they had working for them were great. They got the issues done and they did it in a timely manner and explained everything. So, it's well worth the $100. I know it will cost us more than that to have that fixed and for us to change it all out. The first claim we had was for the water heater. The guy explained that all we had to do was to change out a little part. He told mee that price and it was definitely a good deal. I originally looked at American Home Shield's competitor. They are almost exactly the same, except AHS was cheaper as far as for the monthly amount and the service. AHS only charges 60 for the exact same thing with the 100 down for a service call and they covered almost everything in the house.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

We're working from home and that makes it easier. We don't have to take time off. The tech got there when he got there. He was very professional and helpful. He made recommendation on things that we could do to make it better. He had to clean the unit and he had to replace something.
This November will be our second year in the house so we haven't been living here for a long time. We have two AC units and it was the lower one that needed cleaning. The tech showed us a picture of how dirty it was and said it seemed like it had not been cleaned in years. He said that all the dirt and things probably caused the problem. The unit doesn't really have a cover over it so it sits outside in the elements. Last year, we had Freon replaced and the problem was not identified or that it needed cleaning. I'm not really sure why the ones who came didn't recommend that we do that then. But our AC is working now and it's excellent. The cleaning really helped.

The guy from Rapp's Heating and AC came to my house. He was supposed to be checking my air conditioning unit. The compressor's outside and you go up in the attic. My wife had stored some bedspreads and comforters right at the top of the steps. The guy said he couldn't get up there. I said,"Give me a moment. I’ll walk up there and pull them down." He snapped at me. This was the first time I had a problem with a service contractor. Usually, they do okay. I called back and told American Home Shield not to send him back. I'll never allow them to come in my house again. Home Shield sent another man out and he had the problem resolved within maybe 10 minutes and it wasn’t up on the attic. He did something outside to the compressor. He said insects had crawled into the the control switch and stopped it from flipping.
I got another issue going on now. They sent the contractor down today and he was very good. The attic light went out. We put a bulb in there and it kept blowing. He couldn't get the fan going ‘cause he had to order a part but he fixed the light fixture and everything else. He had a very nice attitude. American Home Shield did okay on some of the other claims so I would probably recommend them before I end up cancelling. But you certainly have to make sure that you gotta be patient with them ‘cause the contractors don't always come out. You may have to wait a little while before they come out. A lot of times, you're waiting on them. In fact, Rapp’s told me it was probably another week before they could come back. I called back and told American Home Shield I needed to get some expedited services in so they sent another company.

I'm very happy with American Home Shield. It’s convenient to not have to look in the phone or google a service provider to figure out who I'm gonna have come fix an issue. I feel secure being a single mom and not knowing how to do all this stuff. It's easy. I can just go online, share my problem, pay the $75, somebody else would come and it’s off my shoulders.
Recently, four of the sockets had no power in the kitchen. I went to the circuit breaker in the basement and turned it off but it didn't come back on. When the guy came, he only jiggled it and it came back on. I wasn’t happy that the guy only literally jiggled the circuit breaker but at the end of the day, I was happy to have electricity back on in the kitchen so we could use the microwave and the coffeemaker. It’s convenient that I only have the $75 fee as opposed to paying hundreds of dollars for an electrician. I would’ve been really upset.

SRL Services got all my parts numbers, and they're great people. They couldn't find the stove and the refrigerator parts, so AHS replaced those appliances and we already got them put in. American Home Shield is good on their service when you get ahold of them, but their wait time to get ahold of somebody is one thing that would make anybody leave them. Our clock times it on our phones, and we walk around the house. Thank God we're retired. Sometimes it's a little under two hours, and other times it's been two and a half hours. It's a nightmare to pay the premiums we do every month and have to sit on the phone to get help. Nobody should have to wait two hours. That's utterly ridiculous in 2020 and then I can't understand some of the people they put me on with too.
My friends hate the hold time as well. One of my friends just left AHS because he's been with them for years and he said he was sick of it. He said, "I'm not dealing with it another time." So, he went to another one. Yesterday, he only was on hold for 25 minutes with this new service he got and he was so happy. They also came right out within one day.
I sent all my friends to AHS and a lot of them have signed up, but they are thinking about cancelling. I tell them, "I just like it because..." and they say they ain't got that kind of time. They go, "Man, y'all must have the patience of Job." I tell them that I don't and that my husband does it, but he shouldn't have to walk around the house with his phone and for two hours. If we have to go somewhere, he stays in the car and he stays on hold. That's stressful, and that's not good service.
I've told people that we all should call and gripe at the Better Business Bureau 'cause we've told AHS on the phone before. Why do we have to sit and wait and wait to even get y'all on the phone? Now, AHS put a callback on the main number that you call when you have a complaint. Sometimes it comes on, and sometimes it doesn't. To leave your number and they'll call you back is new and then if we talk to another division, they don't even have those on the phone to call back. Who wants to sit for two to three hours? Recently, we've called back and we got the numbers. It said callback and AHS did call back.

Somebody had done a little bit of a shoddy job routing the drain part of the AC. The AC's gonna sweat and there's gonna be a little leakage. It has to be properly funneled and it wasn't. The guy from Ultra Heating & Cooling & Refrigeration did a simple reroute which took him a minute or two. I was extremely happy. He was professional, fast and knowledgeable. Also, he took the time to explain to me how my AC really works. That was illuminating. That was a little extra thing he gave me. It was a little two-minute explanation of how the AC intakes and exhausts and how to set it. I never really knew 'cause I've never had a central AC before.
My experience overall with American Home Shield and the contractor was very positive. There was a $100 deductible and I don't know if that happens every time there's something wrong. Ours was the first time and I never really understood that or found out. I was probably told, but I wasn't listening very well. But filing the claim was really simple. I just called American Home Shield and told them something was wrong. They said they'd contact somebody and they did. The contractor came out and fixed it.
American Home Shield kicks **. There was one thing, but it may be a non sequitur. The company that was contracted to come out had to come all the way from Las Vegas and I'm in Pahrump. Depending on where you're at in Vegas and depending on where you're at in Pahrump, that can be like an hour and 15 minutes so that's kind of a long hike. The contractor said they only come to Pahrump once a week for service calls so I had to wait like four days for them. If American Home Shield had a contractor locally in Pahrump, that probably would have been a little more streamlined. But maybe there's nobody as reputable as Ultra Heating & Cooling & Refrigeration that works out at Pahrump. There are plenty of AC companies in Pahrump but I don't know if they're as good as the one that came out.

The ice maker wasn't producing ice. I filed the claim online and then AHS called me to verify. The Sears technician came out and was great, courteous, and conscientious. He had the mask on, and he had the little footsies on his shoes. The repair was a lifesaver. I live in Arizona so it's triple digits here. I was very satisfied. I love American Home Shield and I just signed up my parents with them.

Smart Appliance came out for the fridge that went out. That thing gave me so many problems, and I waited over a month before they would get it fixed. It took me almost six weeks for American Home Shield to tell me if they were gonna replace it or repair it again. Finally, they gave me another one. I am dissatisfied due to the fact that they took very long to fix it and very long to send me the check that they were supposed to send me. I even had to be calling every week.
I also had a claim about two and a half years ago with the same fridge that they replaced, and they came right away. As soon as I called them, it took about three days before they would fix it. But now, with this other one, I went through so much with it. But I guess it was because there had been a storm. I had to buy those small picnic freezers. I had them all over the place because I have milk, butter, and all those things that need to go in there. Also, out here in the valley, it's very serious with the COVID. I'm over 70 years old, my husband's 75 and we can't be going to the store every other day because all those things are going rotten. So we had to go and buy ice. That was the reason that I found it very difficult in the sense that we're going through the COVID and I don't wanna be in and out of the stores. If I continue having this issues with any other thing, I am gonna cancel AHS. But if they continue with the services like before, I'll stay with them.

The AC wasn't working. When the person from A-TX Express came and did some inspection, he was able to find that there was some issue. And then he was able to exactly fix it. He told me he had to clean up the drain. Once the drain was cleaned, everything was fine. The AC is working right now. Everything went fine as per the expectation. The only thing is once you file or open the ticket, and if you're trying to reach out to one of the customer representative, it's real hard to get to them because even after waiting for a couple of hours on the call or putting yourself in the queue, you don't get the response. That's very difficult. Even the chat thing doesn't work easily. So, in terms of customer improvement or customer service, that is something which has a lot of room for improvement.

When the pool heater was not working properly, I notified American Home Shield through their website and it was very easy. They replied by text and told me the name of the company, and that they would be getting in contact with me within the next day or two to set an appointment to come out. The contractor called me to verify the problem that they saw on the website. Once I gave them the description, they said that they then knew how to troubleshoot. They gave me a date to come out and confirmed the date and time. They came out and troubleshot the problem. They said it was a temperature sensor and they replaced it. They verified it now works. They showed me the old one then left.

I like American Home Shield. I’ve used them twice. The first one was last year when my hot water tank decided to give up the ghost, and then this time for my air conditioner. It had totally quit and it had flipped some sort of switch in it. The guy that came out replaced that part and now, it's working good. We used to have a German Shepherd and his urine ate up the coils. The guy was very nice and polite and he said that it had eat up holes in those coils. He confirmed what we can't have and what he did was a temporary fix, but the unit would need to be replaced. We have an ancient unit and we knew that was coming, but right now, we’re neither in the position, health-wise, to redo anything or have it replaced.

We were having gas issues where you could smell extra gas when you turn the burner on. It would change also the temperature when cooking. It would go up and down. We kinda knew it was gonna be faulty because we were trying to get it as long as we could but it was produced in ‘93 or ‘94. When the contractor came out, they checked into it and said there was nothing they could do to fix it.
I've had American Home Shield for about six years now and they've always been great. Submitting claims is very easy. The people that come out are great. We had somebody out for their garage doors. They fixed it in 15 minutes. The only issue I ran into this week was that they agreed to replace the oven because they couldn't fix it. I tried to call them to find out how to do that because we got the email, but my wife was looking on there and didn't see much ovens to go through them. So I was trying to figure out if we can get the 3,000 or do we buy something and get reimbursed.
When I called them, it was a two-hour wait. So I don't have any luck trying to get ahold of them right now. But I can understand that they're probably busy with everything going on. Other than that, the warranty has been really beneficial for us because we have a house with older appliances and the cost that it would take to have somebody respond, we're saving quite a bit of money going through American Home Shield.

I was having trouble with my AC. It would work and periodically would go out. We were trying to determine exactly what was going on. We eventually got it. I thought that the main circuit board might be the problem. It was a $110 part and I replaced it myself. I didn't go to the warranty company. The AC was working fine for about two weeks and then it would cut off. So, I noticed that I could turn the unit off and then wait a couple hours and turn it back on, and it would come back on. It would work for about 20 or 30 minutes and then cut off.
One of my best friends is an AC repair guy. The AC was able to flash the trouble code where we could retrieve it. We found it to be a thermal cut-off, which was basically saying the compressor was no longer functioning as it should. It was maybe drawing too much amperage and getting too hot, overheating and shutting off. So we already determined what the problem on our AC was and since I had a warranty, I wanted to utilize my warranty to take care of it.
When May Heating and Air came out, I left a note explaining to them the steps I had taken so they would know what the problem was and at least they could verify the problem. But the estimated costs were far greater than what I could repair it for myself. The part that's covered is expensive. I didn't know how May Heating and Air came to the additional charges, but one of them was Freon and it was really expensive. 18 pounds of Freon was like $700 or $800, which I could buy a jug of that for 104 bucks for a 25-pound jug of it. So in this particular incident, my warranty was not really working for me because I could go out and buy the part and do it cheaper than what the bill would be for them to give me the part and do it.
The AC is not repaired yet. What I did for the interim, it was cheaper for me to buy three-window units and put in my house than the $1,400 they wanted to repair it under a warranty. That doesn't really fix me long term but that gave me immediate remedy because the process was dragging out and it was 100 degrees in the house. My desire is for the AC issue to be resolved. I’ve talked to Home Shield twice now, but I really haven't gotten any kind of a formal response. I told them either they could provide me the part and ship it to me or allow me to buy the part and let me be reimbursed. They said that they would be checking into that and letting me know. But I haven't heard back.
A friend of mine had a home warranty and he had good experience with a warranty company. Then when I had problems with a series of washers and dryers over the years, I looked into getting a warranty and it was affordable, so I gave it a shot. There was somebody that I know that was using American Home Shield and had good word of mouth about them. Up until this point I've been satisfied with them. However, I've had one other incident with them that goes back to March, where Ione of the eyes on my stove went out. AHS sent somebody out to repair it. They replaced a control unit in that eye. The eye works now. However, it only works on high or off. In other words, I can't put the eye on a low setting. It only works on high or nothing and sometimes even when you turn it on, it won't come on.
So, I called back and advised AHS of that. This was right when the nationwide lockdown was going on. They said that they would get Sears to come back out and take a look at it. But for whatever reason, they never showed up. Time went on and I forgot about the stove not even working. When I called the other day about the air conditioning to follow up with them, I asked them about that and they had no record of even calling. So they're gonna get back with me on that as well. If this would be the trend where I would have to track it all down and try to make it all work for me, it would be better not to have the warranty.
I haven't heard again from May Heating and Air at all since the day that they were there. They advised us to call the warranty company, which, the reason they wanted to call the warranty company was that there were gonna be other charges that I wouldn’t expect there to be any. This is a covered item but they had $1,400 worth of charges through May Heating and Air that I would be responsible for. So the use of the warranty was almost the same price as I could go out and get the job done. It just didn't seem right. I'm dissatisfied with this.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

I was having some problems with the garage door malfunctioning. It would open sometimes and sometimes, it wouldn't open. I placed a claim to American Home Shield. They sent a technician out. And that particular person was very good. The one they had sent prior to that, I didn't like their customer service. I'm with AHS for over 10 years, and I never had any bad experiences. The guy did what he had to do, but I told him about other things that were going on with the garage door, and he didn't even show any interest. All he did was reset the code because my garage door was opening and closing along with somebody else's door.
The one who came two weeks ago checked the thing overall. He checked the keypad on the outside door. He checked the motherboard. I told the other one that the lights don't come on anymore when the garage door goes up. I changed the bulbs. The second guy took the time to pull out the plug and check them. He said something's going on with the motherboard and he'd have to submit a requisition for them to see if they want to replace that or if they could order it. He did the job thoroughly.
Overall, since I've had AHS, the service has been satisfactory. Some of the things listed in the contract like my refrigerator icemaker was not working at one point. They sent somebody out. The guy fixed the icemaker. It worked for a little bit then it stopped. They sent the person back on the same order. It stopped again. The second person who came said the icemaker is not covered. The refrigerator is covered, but the icemaker is not covered. I said, "How do you cover a refrigerator, not cover the icemaker? Next thing you'll tell me my oven is covered, and my stovetop is not covered. It's one unit."
That type of thing is a ripoff. If you're covering an appliance, you gotta cover the whole appliance. It's one functional appliance. I can't see you're covering one side of the appliance but not the next. That was upsetting to me. AHS should improve on that even if they have to charge you a surcharge. The icemaker and the freezer is a integral part of the appliance.

The lady from American Home Shield that I spoke to did get ahold of A-US Air Conditioning and told me that they would be here Monday between 8:00 and 5:00. She tried to expedite the order, but they were really backed up so they wouldn't be able to get me on the list until Monday. Somebody did come out that Monday.
A-US Air Conditioning of Texas was great as far as coming out at the time they said. They got up there and took a look at the AC. They figured out what the issue was. The biggest gripe I have with Home Shield is communication. They simply purposefully take forever to answer the phone. They mix it. People are dissuaded from calling because it's so long. They make the people that are doing the work to get clearance wait on the phone while they take an hour. It costs the contractors 100 bucks waiting for Home Shield to okay a $66 part. It's crazy. Home Shield could answer the phone in less than an hour. And if they aren't gonna answer the phone, they should at least have something where we can leave our number and they would call us back. Occasionally, depending on the number I call, I would get that but it should be more consistent.
I'm not dissatisfied with the coverage when it happens and I am not displeased with the service I get when I get it but the problem is making it happen. It takes an inordinate amount of time and unreasonable time to get work done and they have trouble hanging on to people for that reason. The last three times I've called, I remembered the people that did the work, as they were good workers. I requested for a specific guy one time and the Home Shield rep said they were on hold, which means they have voluntarily taken themselves off the list. We had a refrigerator claim and they couldn't find anybody. Finally, I had to have somebody come out. I had no trouble getting anybody, but that person was put on hold. I waited for the person. He went back, got the information, came back after another job, and finished it. It's that kind of nonsense that's disheartening. They're quite inefficient at the office.
Also, we had some very expensive work done on a Sub-Zero and it took a while to get it done. The guy that had done it before wouldn't work for them. Then, it cost me $550 for the insurance and the ice maker on the Sub-Zero was $700 so they replaced the icemaker. Eventually, they got that done. It was the same thing with the plumbing claim, I had a leakage stop and the plumber was very dissatisfied with working for them. I can understand that a guy that has three calls to do in a day does not want to sit around waiting for them to answer the phone. They put the people that is not on their list through the same thing. Home Shield is capable of doing the work. It's just hard to get them to do it. By and large, when someone comes out, I usually have no issues and I never had a problem with anybody they sent.

Spartan Plumbing was amazing. They came out, fixed the issue, and educated us on what needed to be done. They also cleaned up after themselves. They had their mask on and we tried to stay six feet apart. I'd highly recommend them to someone else. They seemed better than a lot of the other plumbers that have been sent out by Home Shield.
American Home Shield tries not to pay for something. So, I'm on the fence whether or not I'm going to stick with them. It would be easier to have a company that I didn't feel like they were always trying not to pay for something. I pay my yearly membership fee and I expect the service without issues. They did replace our dryer that couldn't be fixed. But it was after a period of time when they just realized to replace it.
Getting AHS on the phone has just gotten worse progressively. At first, you could pick up the phone and be on the phone right away. Now you're gonna be on hold for a long time. But when you can get them on the phone, the process is very easy. As far as reimbursements, we had an issue with the sump pump but they said that didn't cover it. So they only covered 500 out of the $2,500 bill. Then I had to send them the receipt for it three times. To me, that's inefficiency. AHS has gotten comfortable. My girlfriends talk about it and we talk about alternatives. Right now, we're all thinking of doing something different.
The AHS vendors are coached not to fix things. For example, I had a toilet that was leaking. Their plumber that came out said we broke the toilet or we hit the toilet with something and it broke. So, I had to call in and tell them that I didn't with this and ask them to send someone else. Then they said that they can send someone out. But if it was still my fault, I would have to pay an extra $99. Then the next plumber said that there was a leak. When I talked to my friends that have American Home Shield, they had the same experience too.

My ice maker got jammed up and it wasn't producing. I called American Home Shield and they sent Service One Appliance. The tech from there said it would be a little while until they got a new part. They called us eventually and said they had the part and that they were coming out to our location. Service One did an excellent job. The tech was prompt and efficient. The ice maker has been working fine so far. I was satisfied with the way AHS and their contractor performed.

We had a leak and the meter was running and we had no water going in the house. The contractor checked it and because it was the piping outside from the meter to our house, it wasn't covered in our contract. So it cost us $75 for them to tell us that. But they were very nice. They were very polite and very professional. But we had to have it replaced so we put a new pipe from the meter to the house. I had another claim for my oven. My biscuits wouldn't get done on the bottom. AHS sent someone out to check my oven. The tech said he checked it and the temperature and the gauges, and showed us that the pre-heat wasn't exactly right. I need to let it pre-heat longer because there was nothing wrong with that. They also said that we weren't covered in this issue.

When I put in requests with American Home Shield, I usually get a phone call from their contractor the next day. When I put in my recent claim for the first time, I didn't receive a phone call. So, I had to call AHS if they received my request. This has been the second time that this has happened to me. Before, there were no issues. The contractor would call and say they're gonna come to my house on a certain day. We would then make arrangements and things would be fine. I had to follow my last two requests up.
Recently, I had a big leak in my pool filter. Also, my booster pump was leaking as well. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they sent Absolute Pool Care to the house. The techs from there were very professional and wore masks. They went through what I reported and said that both the filter and the booster pump had to be replaced. They put in the order for the parts. In less than a week, Absolute called me and said that they had everything needed. They came over and replaced the filter and the pump.

The tech from A-US opened the unit up, replaced the capacitor, and put it the back, and that was it. It was a really simple fix. He was mindful of social distancing. I was there beside the tech, and he had a mask. I had a mask, too. American Home Shield has been pretty good. We've been a member now for three years, and the largest thing we've had done was a water heater replacement. So, that was nice. I'm very satisfied.

When the AC wasn't working, my son-in-law helped me get connected to American Home Shield. He has a number of homes with them. Then, the contractor called and told me that they were coming. They told me that this board needed to be replaced but they did not have one with them. Then they said they would be back in a few days once they acquired the board. Since then, the unit has been running. All in all, my experience was very good. But for this claim, AHS sent out another person before they sent these people out and that guy was no good. I tried to communicate with him then he finally hung up on it. So, AHS shouldn't be using that guy.

When the AC wasn't cooling, it was handled fine. But with a prior case that I had, Home Shield was horrible at either responding or answering the phones. I had to call them three times just to get things done. It took them so long. They would say, "Yeah. I'll get it done tomorrow." Tomorrow happened. They never answered their phone. If I called them, they wouldn't call back until two, three days later. I had water damage at that point. It took me a long time to get through to that particular woman that I was supposed to have worked with. Find somebody else other than Home Shield. I didn't renew with them.

Everything went well with the contractor who came. But they should come out and do at least a follow-up because the air will stop cooling for a while then it'll start back working like it's supposed to. It stays off for around two hours and then it starts a bit cooling afterwards. I don't know if it's freezing up or what. So, I would like for them to do a follow-up on the job that they did.
As far as American Home Shield, it was about a month and a half before they were gonna do the service. I called them back and they were keeping me on hold. It went from two to three hours at a time each time that I called, and then I still wasn't getting any answers, until here, lately, about last week before they fixed the AC. Sometimes, I deal with them and it's eight hours only for one instance. They don't know what they're doing and have to repeat something over and over again.
Then, they do not handle the problem. They said if I pay the person to come out and fix the item and then submit my invoice to the proper email, I would receive my payment. I submitted my invoice on July 9, 2020, and I have not received anything. I sent out another and I called them numerous times and waited hours to talk to people and they would say it's been closed. Nobody could give me information. I spent on this claim only at least 10 hours on the phone with nothing. On August 27, I sent another email. It is unacceptable to withhold my money. The claim with the AC was my third call this year. My AC wasn’t cooling and a person came out. I needed Freon and he had it. Then, everything seemed wonderful. But within 20 days, my home wasn’t cooling. So, the company sent another technician out who said that there was no problem with the Freon. It turned out the filter was dirty so he changed that. I wondered why the technician didn’t check all of that the first time he was here. Everything was wonderful again but then, three months later, the AC started not cooling again. A second company came out and the technician said that the line was clogged and that sometimes, that happens and it shuts the system down, which was why it wasn't cooling.
Everything was good for a week and then, it started doing the same thing. I made a call to the company or went online and made the notation that the system was not cooling again. The company reached out to me and said that they would send a technician and it was supposed to have been Tuesday this week. I called American Home Shield and went through the automated system. It said that the request was canceled. It wasn't cancelled by me so I called to ask to speak to a rep and the rep told me that the company cancelled. That was sad on their part because I've been waiting for a technician and had I not called, I would have never known what happened with my AC issue. The weather is changing so I thought about letting it go but I paid for a service technician that didn't call and didn't show.
American Home Shield also didn’t call to follow up with me about it. They should call me to say that the company is not coming. They should offer to send someone else or say something. I pay for a service fee every month and they expect the payment and for it to be on time. If I don't make the payment, I don't get the service. I'm paying for service that I didn't get. I'm not happy at this time with American Shield and the contractor because neither of the two reached out to me to tell me that I was not gonna have a technician at my home so I wasted days because I waited Tuesday and I thought maybe it was Thursday. So, I waited yesterday and nothing. AHS needs to follow up. There are a bunch of companies that would love to have my business. My overall experience was good up until the last incident.

The AC just stopped working at one of my properties but I submitted a claim with AHS and the tech fixed it right away. He repaired it on the same day and so far, it's still running well because my tenant hasn't complained yet. Warranty-wise, I like AHS because it's nice to know that I have somewhere to call for any issues. But sometimes they're not great. This Ultra Heating contractor who recently came out one was good but I don't like some of their other contractors very much. The people that came out from those companies weren't very knowledgeable. A lot of times, they come out, put a Band-Aid on the issue, then they have to come out again and again. But I get that.
When I had a claim for my fridge in my house, the contractors were a nightmare. They fixed the little things but the fridge still was not working exactly how it should. They never said that they'd give me the money to get a new one or one that actually works. So they don't replace a unit unless it didn't work. But most of the stuff gets fixed right away whenever I have claims with AHS and overall, I've had pretty good experiences with them. But there was one really good company and I like from them, but I couldn't request them again. I don't know why. I wish they have that option on the app. Also, one time they had an option on the app where if they send you a contractor and you can say, "Request another contractor." I like that.

Home Shield handled the most recent claim fine. It had something to do with a backup water pipe from our washing machine. We had a drainpipe that goes down from the washing machine, and for some reason, the water shot up out of it. The guy said that sometimes lint comes out of the thing anyway, no matter what lint filter you have on, and it goes down the pipe. He cleared it out and it was no big deal. It was an easy fix. And that was handled okay because it was cheap. There were two of them here and they were very professional. They got the job done.
Getting through to Home Shield can sometimes be quite a work. But a lot of it is due to what's going on right now with the Coronavirus. I'm sure they have less people in the offices, so you give them that. They have something unusual going on so you don't hold them to task for that. What I do hold them to task for was lying to us about our water heater. We've been with them now for years, but they didn't come through when we really needed.
When it was something that was major, where our water heater was gone, they lied. Our water heater was frozen when it was inside the house. We didn't use Home Shield to do it after that. We called our own people and they told us there was nothing wrong. The water heater was not frozen. It was simply old and went. The only thing I look forward to is dumping Home Shield and not having anything more to do with them. We're going to sell the house that we're in and as soon as we sell it, we're done with them. Also, we are not recommending them. My son recently bought a house and he asked me who I recommend. I said, "Not them. Do not get them. Because the minute it's something major, they'll be gone.” In the past years, they were there. It was just in the past year that they seemed to have gone downhill where customer service is concerned.

We had some issues with the water filling back into the tub after the washing machine had finished cycle and had turned off. The technician from Dudek that came out was able to repair it. There was some kind of sensor that he replaced. Also, while he was out, I had him look at the dryer because I had changed the vent hose and the outside vent. I made that run just a little bit shorter than what had previously been on there because it seemed like it was taking a little bit longer for the clothes to dry.
We had a claim previously for a plumbing issue that was connected with the downspout going from the washer. We were trying to decide whether this is an electric issue or a plumbing issue. The first agent that I spoke with at American Home Shield said he didn't know and frankly, I appreciated his honesty. I called the previous contractor who had come out and he said that this is an electric issue. We submitted the claim and the repair technician was contacted between the 24 to 48-hour timeframe. We have been happy. I think it's gonna be an ongoing thing that if something comes up, they'd find whether it's repairable or it needed replacing. With American Home Shield, it's easy to submit a claim, they're receptive to the issue, and they act in a timely manner.

I was pretty satisfied with that timeframe. It could’ve been faster, but it's quite realistic.
American Home Shield seemed like a good package as well as it came recommended from a couple of people. So, I went with that. So then, Walston came out. The first time, it worked okay for about a week but it went back to running by itself again so they came back. As of this time, it takes a long time to get through American Home Shield. I don’t know if it is because of COVID. You have to hold on for no less than two hours to get through and then when you do get through, you get someone that does not speak English and does not know what you're talking about. It’s very frustrating. When something is broken in your home, you wanna fix it right away. That's why I had them for so long.
Prior to my toilet claim, I had two work orders. I had one for the air conditioner. American Home Shield sent someone out and he told me that whatever was wrong with it, it was $1,900. If I paid, it wouldn't last the summer. So he suggested that I get a brand new unit. I figured the $1,900 will be gone down the drain if I had to call them back. So I got the new unit and I asked them about American Home Shield. The tech came, put in a new unit, and then he sent me a bill. He had given me a bill saying that American Home Shield was gonna pay one part and that my part would’ve been $3,800. That was why I was not able to pay American Home Shield in full for my premium, which I had been doing for the last 22 years. So I’m dissatisfied right now because I’m being harassed by American Home Shield.
I had quite a few calls from American Home Shield regarding my balance, which I owe them around $400. I told them that I was going to pay the balance and I was gonna keep them for this year. I gave them $164 and change. I saw when they took that out of my account. For the other one, I wrote a check. I got my check back and it was cashed. But they have not even acknowledged I had sent the money. Most of the people that I talked to couldn’t do anything. So I asked them for the telephone number for the corporate office, but all the people that work for them didn't know anything about the corporate office.

We’ve had American Home Shield come out for a couple things and one of them was for the heating element for our Jacuzzi. It wasn't working, so my husband handled that and it's working now. This policy has worked out well for us on this house so far, but we ended up canceling at our old house because of a couple of really disappointing interactions.
The first thing was we’re supposed to have coverage on the water heater. When that failed, because it was only leaking a little bit, they said it hadn’t failed completely and then they prorated it. The people that came out then had $1,000 worth of adjustments with things that were necessary to meet code before they could do the changes, which we found out later to be a whole bunch of **. We already said, “No thanks. We'll just do it ourselves.”
The second one, I had someone come out and look at the dryer ‘cause it was making a lot of noise. He said that it’s because we didn't "maintain" it, so he wasn't gonna fix it. In order to maintain it though, we had to take it apart 'cause what he meant by "maintain" was clean out any dust that might be poking out of lines. It was very hypocritical. So I was, "Why the heck are we paying any money since we just pay $75 and then we get screwed each time they come out?"
The only reason we have American Home Shield on this house right now is it came with the house. Otherwise, we would not have purchased it. Another thing is that when I went through the claims process, my biggest takeaway was there's no way of ever getting anybody on the phone. A bit less of a wait time when you need to talk to somebody if you have any questions would be nice. If you don't do it online, you're screwed. That's worked fine for us though.

My concern is that three people have been to the property. The first guy who went to fix the AC recommended to have the ducts checked. I ordered that by the first guy’s recommendation. That guy came in and told me that he needed to replace some ducts. But the report said that they couldn’t cover that because the damage is done by physical damage, not normal wear and tear. Then a third guy came in for the second opinion and he told me the ducts were not problem. The AC unit is too old and many parts are functioning but not at their best that's why I don't get enough cold or airflow. He wrote me a report and recommended the unit to be replaced.
The following day I got a call from American Home Shield and they told me that the last guy’s report says that the problem is not due to normal wear and tear and they can’t cover it. I have a copy of the report and it says the total opposite. The appraisal from them is different from the report the guy gave me. They said, “There's nothing we can do. We go by the rules. If you read the contract, it clearly says items not covered unless it's normal wear and tear.” They didn't wanna cover anything. Also, the contractor did good but when he climbed into the attic, he broke the the attic cover. I asked American Home Shield who’s gonna pay for that and they want me to deal with the contractor myself. But the contractor works for them. I don't think I should be dealing with a third party.
I'm disappointed ‘cause I've been paying this home warranty for almost five years since I got my property. I never canceled it and I've never used them other than for the AC. But when I called them, they weren't able to help me. A unit is expensive to replace that's why I got the insurance in the first place. I have a bad experience at this point. I feel like I've been paying for nothing all this time.

I like American Home Shield. I keep renewing with them every time I’ve moved and I’ve moved four times in five years. A couple of years ago, it was very difficult to get in touch with them. Now that I could do most of it online, it’s okay. But when I had problems with the plumber or the answering service, it was tedious because nobody would listen to what I was saying about the plumbing. I was very disappointed with the plumber for my blocked toilet. They said that they were open on Saturdays. They also said that if they thought it was urgent, they would call me. They didn't call me.
I made the claim on a Saturday morning and they didn't call me until 2 o'clock in the afternoon the Monday after after I had reached out to somebody else to take care of the problem. I had an overflowing toilet and they didn't think that was urgent. They were really ridiculous. They said nobody told them it was an emergency. Nobody asked me if it was an emergency. I just assumed that if I put in a claim and said, “Hey, I need you ASAP,” that somebody would respond.
Recently, Handy Dan's came out for the ice maker that wasn't making any ice. They were better than the plumber and their service was fantastic. However, I submitted the claim online and it's a little bit confusing. I have to look up my contract every time. It doesn't automatically go to my current contract. It's a little bit frustrating ‘cause I don't live at those other addresses anymore. It has an update because I have a contract with the address that I have but it keeps making me go through all of my other contracts to get to the one that I'm in now.

I have been a customer of AHS over the past 6 years, 4 yrs ago our refrig stopped getting cold, it was repaired the next day, when the sinks were clogged, they fixed them rather quickly... When my upstairs toilet leaked and water began leaking downstairs. AHS fixed the leak, but refused to address the damages that the leak caused, I was bothered by that... but said ok. Then our water stopped getting hot. They sent a rep from "The Plumber" this guy walk into the garage after literally 2 seconds, advised us that water heater was done and needed to be replaced.
We were advise by AHS that the water heater and the installation would be covered, but there would be an out of pocket charge of 1000.00 for a permit (bogus). I requested a second opinion, which I was denied, I was advised that if I found a company that they would cash out if I paid for the replacement. Well I contacted a local Plumber who came and fixed the water heater {it did not need to be replaced} it cost $320.00 and when I contact AHS for a reimbursement. They claim that there reimbursement is for a buy back only... meaning only if the water heater was replaced but since it did not need to be replaced , we are basically out of luck. If they had sent out and requested a second opinion they would have seen that "The plumber" is just to a haggler and our service would have been covered. So now I do not know know just where that scam starts or ends.

I am a real estate brokerage and I am very ashamed of American Home Warranty. I have been selling their policies to clients and now I find out they will not even return a phone call. You can sit for hours and get nothing. My client and I went online to fill out a claim and they took my clients $100 fee and then emailed a name of a local AC guy. We called that guy and he said that he wouldn't ever fool with American Home Warranty again because they will not return calls or will not answer the phones and just leave you on hold for hours. They also will not pay claims on time. They have taken another $100 service fee from my clients and now will not respond to nothing. This has been very embarrassing for me. I will never sell another warranty for them and I will make sure every client I have knows what a sham these warranty companies are.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I have had an account with American Home Shield for over 10 years. They are great replacing items that cannot be repaired. My air conditioner was leaking in June. I called. There have been 3 companies that came out and it is still not fixed. It seems that one of the companies unwired a control board and did not re-wire it. The company who installed the control board came back out today and cannot re-wire it because the original company who caused the problem has to come back to repair it. HELP! I have paid $125.00 x 3 to have the AC problem fixed and it is not running yet (As of today, September 8). Now I have to wait again... NOT HAPPY!

The clothes washing in my rental unit broke down August 13, 2020. It is now September 8, 2020. I am currently on hold. The timer is now at 1 hour 43 minutes and counting. The appliance cannot be repaired, it has to be replaced. The wait times for the repair had already cost me $965 and I still need a new washer. I previously had an AHS warranty on a rental house. The AC broke down. It was going to be 6 days before someone could look at it. The temperature was 92 degrees but they won't consider it an emergency unless the air temp +105. Needless to say, I paid out of pocket for the repair (maybe that's part of the business plan). Will I make it to 2 hours?

Our would stop after about two minutes after turning it on. The issue was with the heating element and the technician from Jones Family Appliance fixed it. There was some hold time there when I called American Home Shield. Then I got disconnected so I had to call back. Other than that, the experience was pretty easy. Having a home warranty is helpful. When you have issues, you don't have to worry about the high cost of repairs.

Realty Rekey, the contractor, had to rekey six locks on three doors. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was easy but it took a long time. It took three weeks before the guy came out. He was a little late but I know he had traffic. He was coming from Michigan and we're in Ohio so I understand that. He didn't wear a mask but he was nice. Everything's been easy and understandable with American Home Shield and the only thing is when I was getting the text updates, which was through Realty Rekey rather than AHS, they kept calling me by the previous homeowner's name. So I don't know how to go about changing that.

The way that the drain was originally set up, it went into the ground outside instead of having a proper outlet for it to go. It was almost buried in the ground ‘cause there's some vegetation around it, so it got blocked up. I did everything that I could at the unit, so I couldn't understand why it was blocked up like that. The guy from Bencraft Mechanical went out there and adjusted the PVC pipe and put a different drain head. Now it's filtered out above the ground so it won't ever get backed up again. He was really professional and he was wearing a mask. It took him about 30 minutes to fix it. Bencraft was perfect.
I'm having an issue right now with my ceiling fan and that's been dragging out so I'm a little upset about that. It has nothing to do with American Home Shield. It's the company that they contracted out to come and fix it. The gentleman that came out thought it was a capacitor and it took him a week to find another one. That didn't work, so then he said that he’d just replace the fan. I have a 60-inch fan and they said that they couldn't replace it with the same type. The only thing they could do is give me some sort of refund in place or give me a 52-inch fan. The room that the fan is in is a large living room so the size of it is perfect there. But other than that, I haven't had any issues. I’m still happy with American Home Shield.

The deductible is $100 and the guy must have been here for about 10 minutes and replaced the little item behind the handle in the tub. He made that comment, "Easy money." But that's what is in the contract so nothing I can do about it. He was excellent and he took the time to show my son what he was doing so that if things go wrong again, my son could change it himself. He had already changed everything else and he didn't know what else to do. I'm perfectly happy about it, except for the deductible. But I agreed to that so that's the way it is.

We've been in the house for about six years and last year we had some of the outlets kinda blow out on us. So we had them replaced before we had American Home Shield. They just kind of seem to be around their warranty age because we've had four more kind of go out within the past two months. So, we called American Home Shield to kinda come out and replace those for us.
As far as the claim submission process, we've been having some difficulty for the other items. We've had multiple requests. We had a plumbing, we had an electrical and then we had one for a refrigerator. The electrical one was flawless. That went through beautifully. We let them know we had a problem, they assigned an electrician, the electrician called us immediately, came out really quickly, and replaced everything that we needed with no problems at all. He was a very informative gentleman. He said we may see some additional work that may need to be done, but there's really no reason to be concerned. And so, he helped us in that because we kind of became a little concerned as far as replacing all of them. It was a great company and a very professional gentleman that came out.
As far as the plumbing and the refrigerator purpose, it would be great if they had some kind of follow through. Once they assigned a company, it kinda seems like American Home Shield expects the company that they assigned to do everything, which in the case of the electrician was great. But in the case of the plumbing and the refrigerator issue that we're still dealing with three months later, it would be great if they followed up on cases instead. I don't know if they have a process where the company that they assigned says, “Oh hey, this item is complete.” If they don't, they should create that because even though I’m dealing with the third party companies, I'm really dealing with American Home Shield.
American Home Shield can follow up with their third party companies to kinda say, “Is this completed? Where are we at?" so that me as the homeowner doesn't have to go and chase updates from these other companies. Other than that, I dealt with them at another home that I owned and had no problems at all with the companies they assigned. I was in a different state, but I feel confident in their ability to insure my home and help me as things break.
Sandra,

On August 11th, I called American Home Shield and I told them I had two issues. The first one was with my toilet, which they handled, and the second one was with my stove. On August the 14th, a repair company came out, looked at the stove and said it was so old. They did not think they could get the parts but they would try. They could get the parts for the stove but they could not get the part to fix the oven. So, AHS gave me two options. One was for me to take the Whirlpool stove and they would have it delivered to my house. They would have it installed and the old one taken away.
My second option was they would give me up to so much money, which was close to $900, to go out, buy a stove, have somebody hook it up and have somebody haul off the old one. Then I would have to send them the receipt and whatever I spent out-of-pocket, they would reimburse me. I didn't wanna go through that hassle so I chose the first option.
Whirlpool brought out my stove but because it was gas, they would not unhook my stove. So, it was assigned to this other company and that company called and said they would be out to install the new stove. I said okay and we set up a time. I said that they were not only installing it but they were taking the old stove out. They said that would not take the old stove with them and I would to find somebody to take it. That was not what AHS told me. The first company they sent out did not take it because they said all they have is a van and they have nothing to haul it in. In three weeks, AHS have not found any contractor, even if they have to go through two of them. One to disconnect the stove and hook up the new one, and the third one to haul it away. It's not that hard to do.
When I first bought this place three years ago, I had the warranty for a year and then, I was gonna disconnect it because I had used the service a couple times and the customer service part of it was lousy. The sales person caught on and asked me why I wasn't gonna reconnect and said that if I would go ahead and sign back up, he would give me this coupon. But I didn't receive it. He gave me a number and then it had no expiration date. It was $75.
When I called to get my toilet fixed, I gave AHS the reference number and all of that. Then I got an email saying that I owed $75. So, I called them back and I said that I had this coupon certificate, which was supposed to cover it. They said they saw it. I was out of town a couple of days and when I got back and started going through my mail, there was a bill from American Home Shield. They were still not taking this reference number coupon for the service call. So again, I have been screwed by AHS.
I pay all this money for all these years and something goes wrong, and they keep dragging. I'm disabled and if I’m having a bad day, I have to use my motorized chair. Since I have this extra stove in my kitchen, I could not get to my bedroom and my bathroom with my motorized chair. If I'm having a bad day and I have to walk, and I ended up going down, breaking my hip or legs, I'm gonna sue.
A month is way too long. Tomorrow, I am calling AHS one more time. I've been paying all this money every single month. They take it right out of my checking account and I want what I paid for. When I call tomorrow, we’re gonna come up with a resolution to this issue because this is not gonna keep going on and on. Every customer service rep I talked to is as sweet as can be on the phone but yet, I get no feedback from them. I get no text nor phone calls. I have no idea what they're doing and evidently, it’s nothing.
Good afternoon Linda,

I like that it’s easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield. All I have to do is just go online. All the buttons you need to push are there, and it's not like whatever your problem is, you can't find it on that list of drop downs. So it's very easy to use. It's been the same issue where the Freon would leak out and somebody would come and they say they would fix it and it would last for a little while.
I have been disgusted because I had to pay for Freon out my pocket for the last couple years. I don't think that's fair to me, but AHS won't do anything. Either they need to fix it or they need to give some kind of warranty where the Freon will last for the whole summer or the whole year. I had to pay $500 for Freon last year and the year before too. But when the guy came out this time, he actually found the leak and everything else. Our air conditioner gets cool. But the technicians came in and fixed it in a timely manner.
Once I had my AC went down and they didn't get that fixed. I had to call an outside person to come in and fix the frame on the unit ‘cause they said they couldn't do anything with it. Also, they got newcomers that’s getting the same service as we got, and they’re getting it for a lot less than what we get it. AHS needs to do something with loyal customers, like a discounted rate. We pay a $78 service fee and the newcomers, now, they pay $40. My wife also had filled out for gift cards. But she hadn’t heard anything from them.

We love American Home Shield. We recommend them because it is the best safety net you can have for a house. When filing claims, we either make a phone call or hop online and give the information on the website. We usually have someone out within 24 to 48 hours. We never had a problem with having to wait. The only problem we have, and this isn't related to American Home Shield is, due to COVID, the parts that they're needing for things aren't being timely because they're coming from China. So it's not a Home Shield thing. They've had guys come out here. They've done what they told us they'd do. They were timely on their responses. Everybody that they've ever sent out has always been professional. They've been on time. If they say they're gonna be here at a certain time, they're here.
The contractors are also really good lately. They try their own workarounds too lately. Especially with the refrigerator, our icemaker hasn't been working, the guy who was here said, "I just wanna try this to see." He made a second trip out to our house. We have nothing but positive things to say about AHS. We even made sure that our son who is renting his house put it as a stipulation for his renters that they had to get American Home Shield and have the protection plan, so that he didn't have to come out of pocket for any large items.

When I got the house we found out that the AC wasn't blowing well, so we ended up going through American Home Shield. When I did the automatic phone number thing, it didn't pull up my account so I had to talk to a representative. Shamanski Heating & Cooling came out time and they told me to turn off the AC to see if it was frozen somewhere. One of the lines was poor insulation. The guy said that they'll shoot the dye in it and put Freon in it and see what happens. I agreed.
Then I didn't know the contract terms with American Home Shield so I asked why I would pay for the Freon. They said that the warranty only covers $10. He shot two pounds of Freon into the system and then not even 48 hours later, the AC wasn't working. The temperature in the house was rising. There was probably a severe leak. They said it was A-coil. I got charged for two pounds of Freon that I probably could have got away with one. The guy knew what he was doing just that they have to load up the systems to see if anything goes. But at the same time, if shooting the dye in there and looking for a leak, I don't think two pounds that cost me almost $200 is gonna do the trick, that's just my two cents.
American Home Shield called me a week ago and they wanted to go over the contract and sell me some more stuff. I'm in sales, so I understand that phone call and the whole follow up. But I feel like I got more information from the AC company because they said that American Home Shield only covers technically the equipment and then the parts and the labor or just the labor cost stuff. So the warranty doesn't cover everything fully. I walk into a situation where I might need a new AC and I'm getting charged four grand when I was thinking that it was only gonna cost me maybe $300 because I got the warranty.
AHS should make an email saying that if the customer got the standard warranty, this is exactly what it's covering. And then a situation where a company that is affiliated with AHS does something and you're not comfortable with it, they need to contact AHS. I got the lower coverage so I'm not saying I'm expecting 100% customer satisfaction. But it could have been a little bit more streamlined to a degree or consumer friendly.

I have a water leak that can't seem to be corrected. I had three plumbers come out and the last person that came out did the Sheetrock work from where the plumber had to cut a hole into the ceiling in my basement to replace the PVC valve that he identified as being the root cause to the leaking issue that I'm having. However, the water company has sent me another notice telling me that the problem has not been corrected. I really don't know what to do at this point. It's been going on back and forth now for the last two months.
The first company came out. They identified that it was most likely the toilet that was running. They fixed it. Then the water company notified me that that wasn't the issue so I tried to call them back out to tell them that that wasn't the issue and they need to come back out and try to diagnose it because the guy that fixed the toilet the first time for the first plumbing company said to me that it's most likely going to be the PVC valve.
But he identified that there was a running toilet and sometimes, with running toilets, that would cause the overage to go up. He fixed the toilet but when I tried to tell him that the toilet that he corrected, the problem was still there, he didn't come back out to fix the PVC valve. So I called American Home Shield and asked them if I could get a second opinion.
That was when they dispatched another company that came out. When he came out, he identified that most likely, it was gonna be the PVC valve that needs to be replaced based on the diagnosis, diagnosed as low water pressure. He looked at the information that I received from the water company, so he replaced the valve. As a result of replacing the valve, the pressure had to go somewhere, is what I'm being told. He’s gotta come back out to replace another seal on a toilet. I've had two toilets fixed, a PVC valve replaced, a hole in my ceiling patched and I still have a problem.
Sometimes, claims are addressed and everything's good and the problem is resolved. Sometimes, claims are addressed, problems are not resolved and we go around and around but because I am paying for this service, I continue to keep pressing for a resolution. I don't feel like I need to bring anybody additional from the outside in because once again, it's something I'm paying for and they need to keep giving me someone or putting somebody on it until we get the problem corrected. I would recommend AHS. It’s not all the time that we have these issues or concerns. I just think that with certain things, maybe they need more of a subject matter expert instead of some run-of-the-mill organization that doesn't care, or they're not listening to the customer.

The people that take the calls at American Home Shield sometimes don't understand what you're saying and it's hard to get it across to them. I told them that the dishwasher worked, but when it would drain, it would drain out into the sink. The drain was coming out of that top knob from the sink and it would come into the overflow. When the repairman came, I told them, “It's the overflow, it's coming out.” He said he was the wrong person. I needed a plumber. I called back immediately to say that they didn't understand what I said and that dishwasher was working but the water wasn't staying in the dishwasher and draining the way it was supposed to.
My husband googled it and solved the issue by him getting down there and fixing it. But when you're 70 years old, it's kinda hard for us to get down there and do that. I called American Home Shield back and told them. It's like you're talking to someone up in the sky. They don't listen to you and I was very aggravated. For some odd reason, all of a sudden, once a week, something's breaking down and that's never happened before. I'll be on the phone for an hour and a half trying to get ahold of somebody. Then the lady came back and said she was still trying to get ahold of Sears to get my money back. I told her they paid Sears to come out here and I shouldn't be getting my money back from Sears. I should get my money back from American Home Shield. She put me back on hold. It was a two and a half hour call with her to try to get my $75 back because they didn't send the proper personnel.
I would not recommend American Home Shield to a friend. In fact, my sister-in-law was gonna get American Shield and with all the problems that I've had, she is discouraged now herself. The service though when the contractors come out is excellent. But the other part, trying to relate to what you need is very hard and tedious.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

We submitted a claim to American Home Shield for a dishwasher. Someone scheduled the appointment, and they came out. The contractor was okay. He said that it was something in the door thing, and he readjusted it. He said, “Just be careful closing it.” But it's not working again. They thought they had it fixed, but a week later, it went back out. I reached back out numerous times. I went back in and did a resubmission, but it didn't work, so it wasn't gonna be like another $100 charge. The status has been to contact the contractor, and that has been since 8/30. I've been calling, and I finally talked to somebody today. They said that the contractor would reach out to me in the next 24 to 48 hours to reschedule. I've been trying to get this second appointment rescheduled. It has not been very good.

I had the two claims. For the first one, the guy came in for a rekey and he was friendly. Plus, it was not even 15 minutes and he was done. The second time that I had someone come was for my air conditioning or ductwork. I just bought my house and I was told that you get a home warranty because if things like that break, then they can be replaced. However, the air guy said no. Even though I have a super old unit, they just keep trying to jimmy-rig it until it finally breaks to the point that they can't fix anything. He was talking about that's how the home warranty gets money 'cause they just have to come out. Every time they come out, you're paying $75. It just seems like they flop it together and make it work for a short time again. It’s a bummer, but I'm sure it'll be all right.

I was having a leak issue so I requested American Home Shield to send someone. Air Pro Masters came in. I then had to wait. American Home Shield said it was not under warranty. But that was why I bought the insurance. What then does having an insurance mean? An insurance means that when you have something happen, you'll be covered. Also, I asked if whatever the tech found, I could have and asked whether it would be sent by email or if they would send me a copy. But I didn't get it. As a customer, I should have his assessment. I don't know where the leak is. I just saw a spot. I am also the one who kepts calling until I was told it was not covered. I'm really disappointed. I didn't talk to anyone in tghe company because I'm not happy with their service.

My garbage disposal was leaking and my faucet was broken. It was a gooseneck and somehow it came off the base. I spoke to a live person from AHS which took forever and a day to get on the phone. I understand they're in the Philippines or something and to get to a live person is hard. They gave me the phone number of the person and the name of the company that was to come out.
The gentleman from S&L Plumbing came out. He was quite a bit withdrawn. I was speaking to him and he didn’t acknowledge some of my conversations so I just stopped talking to him. So S&L was just rude. The gentleman fixed the garbage disposal. However, he said that I basically tore the faucet up myself, which really pissed me off. He submitted that to American Home Shield so my claim was denied. Then they sent a gentleman out from another plumbing company for a second opinion. This second guy basically said the same thing, that he didn't know how it broke, but it wasn't a normal break. So they denied my faucet claim. I'm seriously considering dropping them at the end of this pay period.
My brother-in-law came over this weekend and it turned out that the pieces under the head were rusty and broken. But they did give me a price quote of $416 for them to come out and replace the faucet. I've had American Home Shield for two years and I've spent a lot of money with American Home Shield. If I only called in two claims in two years and this being one of them, that should tell you how I take care of my home and my appliances, my equipment within my home. And some things I pay for myself. So my overall, I would not again refer them to anybody. I don't trust them.

I haven't had to use them that much, but every time I've done claims, I've done it online. I've only talked to the whatever company was coming out to fix it. One time, I went without AC overnight. The technician from Air Design said that it looked like somebody may have messed with my wiring, but it was hard to understand him. He had an accent, and he was wearing a mask (he had gloves on as well). I repeated it back to him. I said, "You think somebody messed with my wiring?" and he was like, "Yeah." It didn't make any sense though. Who would go into my AC unit outside and mess with the wiring? Apart from that, he was able to fix the issue.

I had a backup of the water in the drain pipe and the contractor came later that morning. He checked everything out then went ahead and used the compressed air to make sure the line was completely cleared out and it did good. He did check the airflow too. For the most part, American Home Shield is good. I've had good luck with them. But for specialty items, a lot of times, they don't have people who understand what you're talking to them about when you call in. What I've learned is you just have to ask to speak to a supervisor and that causes that service person to be nervous because they're graded on that.
I had a claim for a water heater that has a heat pump on it. I ended up having to have somebody else come look at the issue because it's a specialty item. A part of it is a plumbing problem with the water heater and the other part is kinda like an air conditioner unit with a compressor and a heat pump on top. They would send one then they'd send another and we never got two of them together. Three or four times we did that on each discipline before we got to it. Finally I got ahold of a supervisor. I had tracked down one person in Austin who knew about how to work on those and they had him come out and fix it then they reimbursed for the charges. It just took me forever to get that. The other thing was a Whirlpool tub. I had a problem with that claiming because it was a walk-in tub and they didn't cover it. It was so silly. They ended up finally covering that up too but it took a long time to get that resolved.

We had two toilets that were leaking. One wasn't seated properly and one was visibly leaking. Initially, it was hard to get an appointment. I was scheduled for the plumber but my issue was dropped because it was the end of the day. They ran out of time and never showed up. I was not informed that they might not make it if I'd be having a service call at the end of the day. It'd be helpful if American Home Shield could work more closely with the contractor to advise on a timeline 'cause I was having a hard time reaching the contractor and finding out when they would be coming out.
I called American Home Shield back and explained what the issue was. The plumber from Tom Melton Service came out and he helped me by sealing both toilets down to the floor. He said there might have been some subfloor damage that we needed to look at working on too. The plumber told me that was only allowed to fix what was on his ticket and that was the way his company was supposed to respond. That was pretty ridiculous that he was not able to fix the thing that I reported because I didn't mention exactly what was wrong with it. The website didn't give me the option to really customize what I wanted to say.
Using the AHS website was a little bit frustrating. The way you can request service on there is a little bit restrictive. I can only choose one problem for the toilet and my problem has to be cracked, leaking water, making noise, a mechanism not working, not filling, not flushing and other. But the 'other' option doesn't even give you a box to explain the problem. You can only request one problem for the toilet. I have to report exactly what the problem is according to the guy and I can't do that if there are two problems.
The contractor was very professional and very reasonable. He did his best to get the toilets working. Despite the different issues, he did a very good job. He might have missed one thing and that was the tank not emptying every flush. He seemed to think that it was the fact that the toilet was clogged going down. But it seemed like the flapper in the tank was not staying up long enough. I was a little bit frustrated that it wasn't looked at.

We've had issues in the past on getting stuff repaired. The biggest problem I have is American Home Shield changed the value of the freon on the AC unit. We have an older unit and they keep piecemealing. We had a new condensing unit put in and within a year and a half or two, the part failed. What really made me mad was the fact that it was a manufacturer's error that caused the freon to come back out of the very unit. They wouldn't reimburse that. The unit comes pre-charged. When the part failed, the pre-charging left. I should have at least got the same thing back again and I didn't.

American Home Shield sent out a tech and he said that there was a compressor issue with my one of my AC units. They went ahead and ordered a compressor. The compressor was backordered for however long so they offered me a cash-out of $500 saying I could go buy my own compressor and fix it however I wanted. I called in a different tech and he said it was not a compressor issue but it was just a pipe. I also called a third person and he agreed with that statement so I had it fixed. It seemed like the first tech was not fully qualified. He diagnosed the problem within a few minutes whereas the other techs took a good 30 to 40 minutes to look at the issue. The first two techs were from the same company while the last one that fixed the AC was not. I then sent in my receipt in to American Home Shield order to get reimbursed for the $700. Since the repair, the AC has been great.
I also have an issue with my refrigerator. Sears came in, diagnosed the problem, and ordered all the parts. But because of COVID-19, Samsung is not able to provide any compressors for at least two months. We are waiting on one more part from Samsung and after that is done, Sears will come out again and go ahead and fix the refrigerator. That process took a month and a half. But one time, they had to order some parts and in the end, they gave me a new washing machine because my other one was old and it would have cost more to get the parts than to get a new one.

Our recent claim with AHS was a stoppage having to do with the garbage disposal. The contractors were able to solve it. They fixed it while they were here and everything was completed within an hour. It’s fine now. I was able to do the dishes. I'm just really happy that I have AHS. They got it together and they sent qualified people. They also sent them fast and it got fixed. The nice thing about having American Home Shield is it's a standard procedure. I call them and I tell them I have a problem. They schedule a repairman or a technician, the technician contacts me and makes an appointment and arranges to be here. They come out and fix the problem. It’s really a wonderful thing.
I definitely recommend American Home Shield. I'm a senior citizen and I have health problems. I am just unable to go out and round up contractors and repairmen or things having to do with the house. So we have a super deluxe coverage program that covers everything. It is expensive, but the alternative is sometimes when you call people, they don't even return your call. It’s hard to get electricians and plumbers and people like that. I've tried it before and they didn't even return my call. AHS is worth it.

My refrigerator stopped working and the technician came out. He noted all the parts that needed to be put on the refrigerator, and he ordered those. It took about a week longer than what he said for all of them to come in, ‘cause it was three separate parts. Then I had to schedule it and that took another week. The technician explained to me the reason it took a week is because he was off sick with COVID or something. He finally came out, and they repaired the refrigerator. Did not need all the parts, sent whatever one of them was back. Then he found out that he needed two more parts and ordered those. He had to make a second return trip to repair those. When he was out here he broke one of them, so he had to get one from a parts place. It was a very difficult part for him to put on, and he broke it twice. But he finally got it put on. It's making a funny noise, but it's working. He was a very nice, young man, and he wore mask.
Originally, I was very satisfied with the repair service calls and the technician, other than the fact that it took so long to get it repaired. But my refrigerator is 10 years old, and I can understand that it took a while to get the parts because they had to locate them on a refrigerator that’s old and they did finally located them. I was lucky that I had another refrigerator in my garage which is an older one back when they made better refrigerators. That was still working, so I was able to put a lot of my things in the garage refrigerator. But I lost a lot of food because of it being out. It stayed cool for a few days before it finally went all the way out. So, we were able to eat up some of the things that were in there, like vegetables. But we lost a lot of things that were in jars.t. But other than that, the experience was fine.
Now, I have called five times and I'm not happy about my air conditioning. I've had the technician come back out, but it's only because I called the company that was working on it to begin with. American Home Shield never called me back with a response on my questions and that was very difficult. I sat on the phone an hour waiting for them to answer the phone, and then I finally left a message.
Thanks for sharing your feedback. We are working to improve the overall customer experience. Thanks for your patience during this process.

My plumbing claim went well. The toilet was running continuously and the guy identified the problem. It was probably less than a minute and he fixed it. I haven't had any more issues.

I had two different people come out there. When the first one came, I wasn't home and my auntie was there. The guy left a little note telling me what I needed and I called him to clarify what was going on, but he got all smart and rude on the phone. I didn't know what happened and I was trying to figure out what was going on. He told me that if I didn't like whatever he'd seen, I could find somebody else. The next thing I knew, I got an email from American Home Shield saying that somebody else was gonna come out there.
At another time, I called in because I paid the whole first year and never had a claim. Now, it’s my second year and I'm paying all this money again, and my appliances are all right. They ain’t broken down. When I submitted my claim, I spoke to a couple of different people and there was one person I couldn't understand the language. It wasn't good English and I had to really listen and pay attention to see what he was saying. The other people were fine though. They told me they’d get on it and get people out, which they did. They did everything. Other than me not understanding, I could hear them. My dishwasher was broken and all the buildup up in there was nasty. It was terrible and the contractor said, “You know, this ain't repairable. We’ll see if they'll give you a dishwasher.” So far, nothing has happened. I haven’t heard back from American Home Shield or anybody about any of my repairs.
My experience has been terrible. First of all, I've been waiting a couple months to get my stuff repaired. Second, I don't know how they select the people that they got working for them and they need to re-evaluate that as well. The contractors are rude. The last people that came out were the plumbers. On the first time, they rescheduled my appointment, and then I never heard anything from them. I had to call them and see what was going on. Once they came out, I didn't hear anything else for three weeks. My water and ice maker had to have the tube run downstairs and hooked to my cold water so that it’ll work and that was something the plumber had tools for and didn't do. He told me, “Oh, yeah. We need to hook that up. We’ll do this, we’ll do that.”
The plumber never came back to do any of it and he told me he was waiting on me to call him, but he was the one doing the work. I didn’t like that part. How am I supposed to call them when I didn't know what was going on? The plumber didn't say when he was coming back and if he could fix it. It's my understanding he had to contact American Home Shield and then they would give him the okay. I called him, “What's going on?” He said American Home Shield only covered 250 and then I was gonna have to come out a couple hundred myself. I said, "What?" and he said, "Yeah". I then said, “Well, why didn't you call and let me know? I've been sitting here waiting.” The person I talked to then said, “I thought I called you.” He thought he called me and left a message? Come on.
Good afternoon David,
I am sorry to hear that AHS has not provided a suitable resolution at this time. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

We had some lights and outlets that had no power. I wasn't sure what was going on, so I called American Home Shield, and I did the claim via their website. It was easy enough. SJDI Electric came out. The guy that came out was super, seemed very knowledgeable, and he was able to figure out what was going on in a matter of 15 minutes. There was the loose wire out of the breaker box. Everything's working normally now. My wife would go in and out the garage door every day. So, having to go out and manually open the garage door versus being able to use the garage door opener certainly saved some time and energy.

I had some work done on my air conditioner and the process was fine. I called the automated line, put in what the prompt said then it gave me a phone number to reach out to a particular vendor. It also told me that I could use the online service thing to do that. But I prefer to talk personally, sometimes. I didn't want to put my claim through online in case I had some questions.
The contractor came out and did the air conditioner. When they came out, they repaired it and it worked for a day. Then it broke down so I had to call back and they came back out very quickly. It was efficient. They made some corrections and it's been fine since. Initially, when I called out to get my air conditioning service, it was a different company. They came out and just looked. They didn't check for what I wanted them to check that's why I ended up having to call back again because that first company didn't do what they were supposed to do. The second company was fine, but the first company was terrible. They were in too much of a hurry to be concerned about anything. Other than that, everything is fine. I've been with American Home Shield for 10 to 15 years and I would definitely recommend them to a friend. They've always done a good job when I've called.

My husband called the claim for the oven the first time. The technician said that he adjusted the oven. He thought I was being unreasonable or something. When I called AHS for the second time, I waited on hold for about an hour. Then the technician came out and changed the heat sensor. Eventually, the oven got to the right temperature. But whenever it dinged when it was supposed to get to temperature, it wasn't to the temperature and it still took another 5 to 10 minutes to get there. So I'm still not sure if what they've done has fixed the problem.

I don't like the answering machine of AHS. I like to talk to a person over the phone. Other than that, I had no problem with them. I had a plumbing issue recently where AHS sent out Bestway Mechanical. The guy came out, told me what the problem was, and fixed it right there on the spot.

When we turned on our AC, it was not cooling how it used to. At one point, it stopped and wasn't working. That was about two weeks ago. When we called American Home Shield, MS Services came and they fixed the AC. But we are still having the same problem. This is happening when the weather is in the three-digit number, 106, 107, 108. We have a two-story. When we turn the AC upstairs and downstairs, only one of them will work. Only the one upstairs will work then the downstairs one will not cold up more.
I thought of calling to complain but I said to just leave it and I'll monitor it. If it continues again, I will let American Home Shield know. The AC, especially the downstairs one is not really cooling the way it was. Maybe it's because last week the weather has been really hot in California. It could also be that too many people are using the AC.
Another thing is I want to see improvement in American Home Shield's answering service. When you call them, it takes forever to get them. You can stay on the phone for almost an hour for somebody to talk to. But when something happens, they always send somebody to come and check. For that, I credit them. They always send somebody as soon as they can get somebody.
