When we were first using it quite a few years ago, it was very difficult to get ahold of anybody. But now, it's so much easier and a lot better. When I have a claim, I'd rather call in and speak with a rep. They answer the phone immediately. Before, the wait time would be anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. American Home Shield is also wonderful in getting someone out there immediately. They either have somebody out there that very same day or the very next day. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield and I would recommend them to anyone.
Their contractors have been very well. Bob's Cooling & Heating came out for an AC issue. It was our first time ever using that company. I spoke with Bob and he seemed extremely nice. They were able to fix the AC right away. The issue had to do with a fuse. It was on the outside of the house where the air conditioning unit is. I didn’t even know there were fuses there. Our AC is running great now.

My mom's friend had great reviews about American Home Shield coming out and she never had an issue. So my mom went on and signed up with them and she didn't have an issue. So I signed up as well. The only issue I have is the hold time to get in touch with somebody at American Home Shield. I understand that with COVID thing might be a little up in the air with trying to get in touch with a representative. I've been on the phone for close to two hours waiting to speak to someone. It was about me just needing to find out what was going on with the problem because I hadn't heard anything. But as for the service that they provide, I'm quite happy with that. The customer service lady with the air conditioning company would call and give me updates on what they were doing. She also said that as soon as they got the part or hear back from AHS, they would set up a time to come out. That's what I liked about the air conditioning people.
The first repair company that came wasn't all that helpful. But the second contractor that AHS sent out, I was very happy with what they did for both the air conditioning and the refrigerator. The technicians were both really helpful, friendly, courteous, and punctual. I was able to give to them any feedback about what was actually going on with the product. They wanted to make sure that I was happy with the result on both issues. They didn't just fix the issue and then left. They made sure that it was running properly and that everything was okay with it. With the air conditioning, the technician found some issues that were going on with it. Since he has resolved that, I find that the air conditioner is performing a lot better with the refrigerator.

The guy that A to Z Electric sent out didn't understand why the breakers were bad, and he decided to have someone come look at my dishwasher, even though the breakers were beeping six times, and online that showed that the breaker was bad. I tried to explain to him and I said, "Well, I know why this is not working. The breaker keeps tripping because it's bad." It was kind of a mess. The guy that was sent out looked at the dishwasher, and everything was fine. So they put it back on to A to Z to come back out and check the breakers again. Another guy from A to Z came out and he said, "Oh, yeah. These breakers are bad." So he changed the breakers out with temporary breakers.
I needed to get the breakers replaced because they're a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. I have the new breakers in my possession. There are temporary breakers in the system in the box. My dishwasher is working, but I am supposed to have these special breakers in there per code. So, someone needs to come back and correct it. Now, I'm trying to call A to Z to come back out and put in the permanent breakers, but I'm having a hard time getting ahold of them. As far as American Home Shield, it's been fine. Initially when we bought the house, the realtor recommended the company. I had it for a year and then I let it lapsed because I didn't think I would need it. Then I got a deal to rejoin. So I went ahead and rejoined. Then I needed it.

There was a faucet leak in our hallway bathroom and I put in the claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The rep was very helpful and I was told to expect the contractor within a couple of days. The reps from All American Plumbing were very professional and they worked very quickly. Since then, everything has been perfect and we haven’t had any leaks. The repair is gonna save us a lot of money on our water bill. I was very satisfied with AHS. It gives me a better peace of mind. The people I have talked to that bought houses before highly recommended it.

The guy from Sears came in and he fixed the dishwasher. He had a mask on. He didn't touch anything in our house besides what the appliance needed to be done. Everything's fine. We're still waiting to hear back since the door’s also broken. Sears was good. American Home Shield has been great. The former owners of the home paid for it initially. We used it and we realized, “Yeah, we need to keep this up.” That was eight years ago. When we used them, it's a very easy process. We don't hesitate to open a ticket and see what happens. They'll schedule pretty quickly.

I like the fact that you can have American Home Shield with a home that is not new construction. I've recommended them to a lot of people. I also don't have any difficulty with their claims process as they respond really quickly. So far, we've always had the same contractor. A guy with Todd’s AC came out for heat pump. We had a good experience with them and I appreciate always getting the same person back because he's familiar with the system that we have.

The washer had problems with it. I called AHS and they set it up with Stuart's who worked on it. They found out that the washer needed some other parts before they could finish. It took a little time to get the other parts and to get them back again. Then they came back, worked on it, and got it set up. They did a good job and the washer is working fine now. Also, I enjoyed the talk with them a little bit and they seemed to be good workers. I live in a community in Atlantic Shores and they had to go through checkups and they handled it very well.
Good afternoon Walter,
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

We had a problem with an oven and AHS sent out The Appliance Guy to repair it. My wife was at home when the tech came out and she said that he was nice. He did a good job and everything's working well so far. Other than that, submitting claims with AHS can be difficult at times. It takes forever to get on the phone to talk to them and sometimes, whoever they contract out, don't call you right away and you have to call back. And there had been times where I had other claims for the same issue and they wanted to charge me another 125 copayment. But I said I was not paying again. Also, I wish it was a cheaper price, but it is what it is.

When I had a plumbing issue, the first group that American Home Shield sent out was Nussbaumer Plumbers and they were awful. I wrote a report back to let them know and also voiced out that they can't come back in my house. I called AHS and asked if I could have a second opinion. There was no issue whatsoever and they handled it perfectly. They got J & A out, who fixed our problem in 15 minutes. They were wonderful.
We have two homes and we have AHS on both homes. Submitting a claim is very simple. But when you put in a request, it's the first person that pops up they send it to instead of being able to request the same company to come back. If it’s via the same company, they'll know your home so they know the issues versus when you call in a claim. There's no place to request a certain provider. They just put it out and whoever claims it first gets it. But now I've learned that I can request it if I have found someone like J & A Plumbing, who does my electrical, plumbing and HVAC, and I found them through AHS.

My experience with American Home Shield was horrible. They said that something was covered in my house. But when a tech came out, he said it wasn't covered. For six weeks, they kept telling me they would give me my money back but they still haven't done that and it's been over a year now. I'm not gonna renew.
That aside, I had a claim with them that was good. My hot water heater wasn't pretty good so I made a claim online and the AHS website was pretty good. I was to be given a call in 24 hours and someone would be out here in three to five days. A guy with Home Choice Services came out and fixed the element. That contractor was great an my hot water heater has been working perfectly.

The air conditioner was not getting as cold as it needed to. I went online and submitted a claim with Home Shield. I've used their website before and it's incredibly intuitive and easy. I submitted my request on a Friday afternoon and Home Shield told me that I would hear from someone within 24 hours. The contractor called me first thing on Monday, which was fine. I didn't expect someone to call me on Saturday.
The issue was that the little seeds that came off from cottonwood trees got stuck to the back of my air conditioner. We had to rinse that off and the AC started working great all over again. I felt silly because not only did I know about this because they've explained it to me before, it's been in my newsletters from Home Shield. But Connett Services was great. And I was so thankful because it was a very simple problem and easy to fix. Overall, it was a really good experience. I've been a customer of Home Shield for seven years because we have had so many good experiences and the security that they provide is worth every penny. It's worth more to me than what I pay. It's convenient, fast, and reliable.

Our furnace would not kick on with the air conditioning and it was during the heat when it was 100 out. We called in in the morning and the guy came as soon as he could that evening. He did not stop until he got it to work. It's an old furnace so there were several issues on it. The next time, they had to come back out. It took three times for him to get it, but he got it to kick on for air without a problem. But when we had one day of snow, the heat wouldn't come on. He came back and fixed it right away. He had a mask on and was super amazing about making sure not to get near us or contaminate us if he had anything. He was a great safety-wise and being personal and nice to us ‘cause we're older people. He was very professional. In the spring, we're going to call him to have the furnace and the air conditioning cleaned ‘cause we really liked them. American Home Shield did a good job of choosing the person and the company they had to send to us.
We left Blue Ribbon because we didn't like them. My daughter said we should go with American Home Shield. We did and they have been fabulous so far. I've already talked to my other daughter and told her to buy it because it's so good. It was so professionally done. Compared to Blue Ribbon, it was amazing. We're gonna carry them forever. When we move to Florida, we're gonna take them with us.

Our AC unit was completely messed up and it was broken. I used my American Home Shield that I've been paying monthly for a contractor to come out and do an inspection. Express Heating & Cooling came out and they said that they had to replace the entire thing because it was broken. The contractors were good and very respectful. They let me know when the part was in and that they will be coming out. They gave me a time and date to make sure that would work for me and they called me when they were on their way that day. They fixed it and it's working perfectly fine now. The repair helped because when it was hot, we were able to turn our AC on even if it was only for a day or a night. It gets hot on our third level of the house and we were able to turn it on and everybody slept fine, even the dog was cool. It was a tremendous difference from not having any AC in those days.

My most recent claim with AHS was an air conditioner claim. The fan wouldn't stay on. I file the claim through the mobile app and then I got a notification that we would get someone assigned to us within 24 hours. That was a Saturday night and we heard from the contractor first thing Monday morning. The guy came out the next day and he was super friendly and really great. Everything was fixed while they were here. He had the part in his vehicle. We had two more claims with AHS before this. One with our washing machine and then another for an AC problem. Those were fine as well.

I'm happy with AHS. I have the French door refrigerator with an icemaker and recently, the icemaker stopped functioning. The guy from GE, who was local here in our county, came and replaced it. And he was fine. He wore his mask, socially distanced, and did the job. Aside from that, the claims process was simple. But it took 10 days for service. You can live without ice and I wasn't worried at all about the 10 days since a buddy of mine had a portable icemaker that he loaned me for 10 days. And even if I didn't, the icemaker was not a big deal. But if it were the refrigerator that stopped, you can't live 10 days without a refrigerator.
So in the future, if a needed appliance or the furnace breaks, I would anticipate significantly better speed than 10 days. Other than that, the insurance is worth it. You pay 800 bucks for your car insurance and hope you never have to use it. So this is about 800 bucks a year to have and it's good. It makes you feel better that stuff will get fixed for 125 bucks.

I was a realtor for years and I sold a lot of American Home Shield policies to buyers and sellers. I've also recommended them to a couple of people. Recently, I had an AC claim with them. I did it online on my phone and it was easy. But the first technician sent out didn't know what he was doing, so I had to get on American Home Shield about getting them back out there. He said that he had fixed it and left, then closed the case out. But he didn't do anything. Then, the second guy came out, who was the supervisor, and he went right for it. He fixed the unit and it’s running fine right now. While the techs were here, they stayed social distant but they weren’t wearing a mask out there. All in all, AHS has been very good.

I own four houses in the same neighborhood. Two of them are occupied by family members, one's a rental, and one that I own. My house had an air conditioner guy come out. I was hearing some really loud cranking noise that sounded like a tank outside our door and I was afraid that my air conditioner was gonna blow up or catch fire. Also, I live in Arizona and I can't afford to be without air conditioning here. This is 115, 120-degree temperatures. Both my wife and I are seniors, so we were quite concerned about it.
I have a company that I use that comes out twice a year to update and clean my units. When I first had the noise, I called them because they respond within hours. I asked them to come and take a look. They came out and they looked at it. But they were not hearing anything and unless they could hear what my problem was, they couldn't diagnose it or fix the unit. At that point, I filed something with AHS and they sent out Armer Corp. He pretty much said the same thing except he found that the voltage was low. He changed the voltage regulator and the system is running well. I don't have that cranking noise anymore so that's a good thing. The tech also told me to keep an eye on it.
Working with American Home Shield has been good. They are very responsive. I had a couple of issues in the past where I needed something done and couldn't get whoever they assigned to come out during what I considered was an appropriate time. AHS has all my four houses. A lot of the issues are house operational ones. I called AHS and they changed service guys so that worked really well for us.

The gentleman who came out for the garage door was very professional. He determined what the problem was and fixed it right away. He had a mask on too. The claims process is usually automated every time I call. They have my card on file and would automatically charge me. I had an issue one time where something was going on with my refrigerator. I called AHS and the gentleman who came wanted me to sign this three-page release form from him. I've never had that before and I asked him what he was doing and what he meant to do. He said he needed me to sign it.
American Home Shield never asked me to do anything like it before and I asked him what I was releasing him from. He said it was from their company. They didn't want me holding anything against them if they couldn't fix it or if they couldn't do it. I said that I was not comfortable. I didn't know what it was and I told him that I would like him to leave my house. He asked if I would sign it and I said no. I didn't even know what his deal was. I just wanted him to look at my refrigerator but he was handing me a release form releasing their company from whatever it is, before they even look and see what's wrong with my refrigerator. It irritated me because I had to pay the hundred dollar fee because he did come out to the house. That bothered me but I just let it go. It was strange.
AHS should send somebody else or do something. That would be nice. They used to charge you your fee once the contractor has done the work. I got an email or I got a call to make sure everything was all good, and then they would charge you. But now, as soon as you ask for the service, they take the fee and there's nothing you can do about it. I haven't had an issue except for that one time a while back. I want to know a company that comes to my house. I have a Sub-Zero refrigerator and there is a Hornet in Houston. It’s who they've always sent before because I've had a couple of icemakers over the years. But this time, they found somebody new that does Sub-Zeros and they sent them and I don't like them. AHS should send out who I normally know that does this.
Still, American Home Shield has been great. Every time I have an issue, I get it resolved and it's fixed and taken care of. It makes me happy about that. I hear people saying negative comments sometimes but I haven't had any problems. I’ve had AHS between the 5 and 10-year mark. It has been very beneficial and I've even told my daughter. She and her husband are about to buy a new home and I told them that they need to call up and get a home warranty. It’s worth its weight in gold. They take care of you. Especially since they're young and new about getting a home and they're scared. AHS is a relief because you never know when something's gonna break. It could be something costly or something inexpensive. It all averages out over time, but it's worth it.
Good afternoon Tracy,

We've had AHS since we purchased this house in 2013 and it's a whole lot better than it used to be. In the past, there was some issue about payment and they thought I hadn't paid something so I couldn't do anything online because it had my account frozen. I had to call every time, whether I wanted to or not. And having them call me or getting ahold of them when I had a problem wasn't the best. But it's easier now. I'm able to do it online and I've learned to call the contractors and make an appointment myself instead of waiting for them.
Sometimes I get some stinky, creepy, weird people and that doesn't really feel good. AHS always has problems finding good plumbers and we get that problem when they send these contractors to us. They don't fix the problem or they just put a band-aid on it that doesn't last very long or they complain about everything. When we get a new one, they're all excited and they get burnt out on their calls. They sometimes vent their frustrations about contracting with AHS. But the air conditioner contractors respond right away. They call and they're fast, professional, and knowledgeable. One nice thing is it feels like there's an actual professional who takes pride in what they do when they are in your house. I have three AC units and one unit was low on coolant. Then, the second unit stopped not too long afterwards. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas fixed it and it's working now.

And it would take the whole day to get to the point and get even with the thermostat. I called Home Shield and I told them that I was having that problem. So, they sent me this older person to come in and get it fixed. The service was okay. It's just that what the guy did didn't work, and it's still the same.
I noticed a few days after that it was doing the same, the temperature was running the same, taking too long to get even. I thought about calling and canceling the service with American Home Shield because it was my first experience getting something like that. And I feel like, "I don't know. Let me see. Let me get another month and see how it's gonna be." Because now, the weather is changing. It's getting low, and we're not using the AC right now because it's getting cold. I know people that have the same program and so far, Home Shield has done a very good job with them. It's just that sometimes, the people that work around Home Shield makes things look different. But just being with Home Shield has been good.

So for example, when I went in online and put in I needed help for my air conditioner on Friday night, they assigned the order to a company that was over three hours away from my home. I looked up the name of the company on the Better Business Bureau and it never passed the Better Business Bureau inspection. They had horrible reviews as well. So I called back into the 800 number and I had to argue with them and say that I'm not gonna wait for someone who comes from three hours away to my home and they never called back anyway. I had to cancel that service request to get my $125 refunded.
The person on the phone said that they do this all the time and gave me the name of another company. We went to three companies until they finally found one which was within an hour of my home. That company came out and did a fantastic job and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I love American Home Shield because it always seems to have a good outcome. It's just a painful process trying to use it. I have the wherewithal to know how to ask and so I'm glad for that, but the process seems crazy.

American Home Shield is always on the ball. They do a great job and I like them. Their website is easy to use and usually, somebody is out fast. When my blower motor was not working, Central Heating & Air Conditioning came in and did a good job. I had figured out what was wrong and the technician confirmed it and then he replaced the bad part. He was on his way within less than an hour. The unit is working great now and it kept it cool during the hot days.

It was pretty easy to submit the claim online. The tech from The Flying Locksmiths came in and looked at everything and made sure he can do what he needed to do. Then we had him do a couple extra doors so that everything matched and he was able to do that. We had one door that has an issue and he worked with us to try to get it fixed. He went out of his way to make sure that everything was good.

There was a very bad smell in one section of my garage that would not go away. It was determined what the weird thing was the smell disappeared. It lingered for about two weeks and before calling American Home Shield, I did a thorough investigation to make sure there was nothing rotten or nothing around of that nature there, and everything was perfectly clean. It happened once before, so I decided that since it had been going on there for about two weeks, I would submit a claim with AHS. Then mysteriously, the smell disappeared on the day that the gentleman arrived. We both did a very thorough inspection on everything to try to determine what the heck was going on. And the strange thing was, the smell never ever came back since. So we were both just scratching our heads. But I appreciate AHS for sending him out and I'm not gonna fight anything when it comes to deductibles because he did a great job.

I would send him to anybody's house. He was very kind, delightful and considerate. He listened to what you had to say. He is a very good asset. The thing I didn't like about the claim was it was a Thursday and no one from the electric company that American Home Shield sent out called until Monday. It took a long time for the company. The rep said they were really busy which I can understand. It had nothing to do with American Home Shield. It was the company. But the guy that worked for that company was very good so sometimes you gotta wait to get things fixed. I've already recommended American Home Shield to somebody who was selling their house. It's a great asset for a home buyer.

When I bought my house, people were telling me I needed all the insurances. Everything was great and it took a while for stuff to start breaking down. At first, I was like maybe I shouldn't use my home warranty. I totally forgot I had it and I was just paying the bill. But something went out and my husband told me we were still paying for American Home Shield. Every time I called, I received great service. I haven't had any complaints about it.
Appliance Express came for an issue with our refrigerator and everything went really well. They responded and came earlier than what was expected. We were called to let us know when a technician was on his way. He was professional and he fixed the issue. He also had a mask, gloves, and boot covers on. With regard to the refrigerator, he told us what we had to try as preventative measures. Once every couple of weeks, we have to dump all the ice out and to go under and clean the buildup that happens from the ice maker. This doesn't always work but it can prolong the refrigerator to where it won't go out.

The contractors that AHS have sent have been professional. I haven't had any problems. However, if I have to edit a claim that I already put in, it should be a little easier 'cause I did make a mistake initially when I put in that claim, but I needed to add something to it. I have a refrigerator that I've placed a work order for since early June and as of today, it has not been repaired yet. So I am without a refrigerator for almost four months. Active Appliances was assigned to me. they showed up within a few days of the request. They sent us a technician who didn't speak English. So, he kept translating whatever he was saying on his iPhone. He kept saying that there was nothing wrong with my refrigerator and wanted to leave. I have a tenant in that place and I can't leave him without a refrigerator. So, I have to provide another refrigerator for the tenant.
We kept insisting that there was something wrong with the refrigerator. The ice cream melts and the milk and everything are spoiling. Then after insisting for so long, the technician had the machine and he said that it was fluctuating and that it wasn't normal. He said that they would have to come back again. So it was another wait time for them to show up. Luckily, they sent someone else who spoke English and apparently they said that there were some parts needed to be repaired.
When the company showed up and they said that it was not the right part and they needed another part. So, they'd go back. Another month would go by to get a part, to get an authorization, and what have you. And whenever they come in, it would be a different part at that time. I’m done with this company. This was the worst experience I had. Basically, they pulled also a part out of the refrigerator. The control board supposedly needs to be repaired. I don't know what the status and whenever I call them, I am on hold for hours and hours and nobody answers the phone. When I reached out to American Home Shield, their representative would put me on hold to call the company to get a status. It was the same thing. They'd come back and say that they couldn’t get ahold of someone.
Overall, AHS wasn't too bad but the contractors that they contract with are terrible. Their ethics and their competency are awful. So far, I’ve been dealing with two supervisors. Every time that I call, they say to call them back and try to reach that person who was already working on the issue for me, they'd say that they couldn't get ahold of that person. So they'd have to send me another supervisor to call me who was gonna have to start all over again. It’s so unorganized.

American Home Shield has worked out pretty well so far. It's been pretty beneficial in the two years I've had it because I had some other appliances I needed to get worked on. The water pipe to the hot water heater was leaking in the ceiling. Hers and His Plumbing came out and the plumber had to replace the pipe. He had everything in his truck. He also had a mask on. I feel really good with the coverage from American Home Shield. But I had damage on the ceiling because of this leakage and American Home Shield said that it was a secondary issue. So I had to come out of my pocket to get that fixed. I had a little issue with that because to me, it was all related. If it wasn't leaking, it wouldn’t have been damaged.
American Home Shield has been very beneficial. I'm overall pleased with the service I've had for six years. I put the claim online and that saved a lot of time. Their response time was really good. With the AHS reps you deal with, their English sometimes gets in the way. They overcharged me a couple of times and I had to go back and correct that. Also, some of the technicians are lazy and they only do what they have to do. Then this particular technician tried to steer me to the one that he deals with so he could get a kickback to fix the hole. In his proceess of trying to steer me to his associate, he told me that homeowners wouldn't know how to talk to the insurance company a lot of times and that I should let him do such, but it didn't work. I've been a homeowner for many years now in more than one property. He had somebody in mind already and I didn't care for that.

We had a big storm and the switch in the garage maybe went off. I didn't realize that until the refrigerator broke. The guy from Jseizeme Appliance came and he restarted and connected it. Also, the sensor in the oven is getting old, so sometimes it turns off. I gave him the manual, but he couldn't see the model because he saw all this stuff and he said that you cannot see the model number. He said there was nothing he could've done.
I was disappointed because I feel like I wasted $75. On top of that, American Home Shield owes $75 credit because before that, Sears called three weeks ago, but they thought that it was an oven in the wall. I said, "No, it's a range." They said, "We need to cancel this order because we don't do that." whatever. So, they canceled the order. So, when I called AHS, I told the lady that I am still waiting for my $75 credit because Sears never came. I also asked if she can use the $75, and she said, "No, we have to charge you another $75." They charged me $75 twice. One has to be credited and that is why I'm so frustrated and really upset because every time I call the company, it takes like almost an hour for somebody to answer the phone call. I'm working at home. I don't have an hour to call. Maybe they want people to hang up and they don't want to put any claim on them. It's totally unacceptable.

I just bought the house, and the appraiser told me that the AC needed to be cleaned and that the coil and needed to be cleaned and possibly serviced, and that would help it. It started not cooling the house. It would get to a certain point and then if it got a little warmer, it wouldn't keep up with the heat. Hurliman Heating & AC came out, and the guy looked at it and said he didn't see anything, but he would certainly service it. He cleaned it and went outside and cleaned the big thing outside, he cleaned the coil downstairs in the heating thing downstairs, and he said that as far as he could see, the problem was it was dirty and it wasn’t unable to keep up.
It worked fine for a couple of days and then it started doing the same thing again. That was when I called back again, and the guy came out and he looked. I told him what they had done in the beginning and he kinda looked around, checked a few things, and came back in and told me that he saw something in the unit outside. He ordered some part and picked it up and came back and replaced it, and it's worked fine ever since.
Both of the techs who came out were as nice as could be. I felt kinda bad for the first guy because I've never owned a home with an air conditioner, so I didn't know what to expect except for the fact that it wasn't keeping up with the cooling. So then they suggested beside being cleaned, that maybe the Freon was low. I wasn't very happy with American Home Shield in the first call because it took them more than a week to get back to me. It was a week before they even called me to schedule an appointment but other than that, I'd recommend them still.

Every time I called American Home Shield, they stated that it was a 42-minute hold time. I've had two claims recently back-to-back for warranty use. I understood that due to the current situation of the pandemic but I was not about to hold the phone for 42 minutes. Other than that, the contractors that AHS sent out were really good. They had to use my tub to drain the hot water heater and the tub was filthy. But when I went back in to check the tub, the guy cleaned it out so that was beautiful. They ended up installing a new one 'cause mine could not be repaired. So it's even better now and everything is normal. It was a good experience but I had to pay a little bit more than what I was expected to pay because there were some clauses and addendums in the contract that I wasn't aware of. So I might start doing a little research to see what else is out there in terms of the home warranty.

My AC not cooling well and when I submitted a claim with AHS, Express Comfort came out first. They diagnosed that there was a leak and said they needed to replace the evaporator coil. They also said that they may needed to do modifications to the unit to the tune of about $1,100. I asked for a second opinion and Epic Air came out. They said that it was low on Freon and that it was a possible leak. So they put the Freon in with leak sealant and that worked. The AC is cooling now and we’re doing well. Epic was great and professional. Their tech was upfront, explained everything, and very transparent. But Express, not so much. Their techs were not professional and while the person in their office was polite, courteous and professional, I felt like they had some dishonest or shady business practices. And that was the thing that didn't sit well with me in dealing with Express.
All in all, Epic saved the day because they came in and they fixed the AC. So, ultimately, I was satisfied. As for AHS, there was a lot of confusion with them. I had to follow up with them because they kept sending my claim over to Express. They would communicate one thing with me, then the contractor would communicate with them, and it would be a totally different story. They would not follow up with me either and I don't know whose responsibility it was, the contractor or American Home Shield. Time would pass, days would pass, and I would reach out to them again only to find that something happened but nobody bothered to make me aware of it. So I had to reach out to them a couple of times to keep the ball rolling.

Max Cool Air Conditioning came and fixed my air conditioner, but I wasn't too happy about them. They were giving me quotes on new air conditioners and they were telling me $7,500. I’ve looked into that and they're only about 3,500 'cause my home is only 800 square feet. It's a small home. Anyway, I have read online too that apparently, they're good at telling people 7,500 across the board to anyone. I figured if I needed them again, and I call American Home Shield, they're overpricing. The other thing with them is they told me that if it went out again, not to call American Home Shield, but to call them directly. I would call American Home Shield though.
One more thing is that I got a text message wanting me to rate Max and the guy wanted me to rate them right then and there. He then wanted to take a picture of it that it was successful, so that way, he knew exactly what I was saying. I was not happy with them as far as that and I wouldn't want that Max again if I had an air conditioning problem. Apart from that, I've never had a problem with American Home Shield. I've had them for over 10 years for different places we've lived and it's been great. They've always taken care of any problem I've had and that's why I keep them.

Applifix handled the claim with expertise so I was very pleased with that.
I was always with OneGuard Home Warranties, which American Home Shield bought. My daughter-in-law has American Home Shield. I switched over to them because she said, “Oh, you gotta try this.” I said, “Okay.” My house has been totally remodeled so every room has been touched. And since I'm a Realtor, I believe in having home warranties. Every one of my sales, I gave to OneGuard. But at $75, Home Shield is more expensive annually than OneGuard. Their fees seem to be more expensive than OneGuard so I may go back to OneGuard. For a bit more, I wanted to see how they were compared to OneGuard. But right now, the claim was handled very quickly and very nicely.
The only problem I have is it takes forever for anybody to respond. I did not have that problem with OneGuard. But still, the service that Home Shield gave after the claim was filed was terrific. But getting in touch with people, they should hire more staff to give better service that way. I would be embarrassed if I have to refer them and they don't get contact right away.

You can either wait for them to call you or you can call them. I'm the one that's without AC so called them and they told me when they were gonna be able to come out. I work with them on how they're gonna come out and it’s usually not long. They usually get out within a couple of days. They have really quick response on that

AHS handled everything. The contractor fixed it and I didn't have to do anything.

American Home Shield has been absolutely great to me every time I'm calling. They’re very considerate and they provided me with very swift answers. I'm very happy with their company. One time, a technician from Affordable Leak Detection came out to my house about four times because the problem wasn’t solved from the beginning. I'm not a very much technically inclined person but my understanding was that the issue was the condensation pipes. In my garage, there was a little leak at the very end of the pipe where it goes directly to the sewage lines and the technician fixed the leak.
He went to my attic and fixed the connections over there where all the condensation part started to go down. He placed also new joints on at least a couple places and he wrapped all the condensation pipes in a special material to prevent them from collecting water from the humidity. He said it will help to prevent the water to get on the pipes itself from the outside where it can stop the drip.
The technician was a very nice and knowledgeable person and the reason he came several times was because he didn't want to do something where he just guessed. He needed to see what was going on with his own eyes. He fixed one joint and he said, “Let's wait a week and see how it goes.” The next week, he called, came and noticed that there was something else that needed to be fixed in that very same area (condensation type things in my attic). Eventually, he fixed everything. Since then, I checked at least once (because it’s hard for me to go to attic) and everything works fine.

I had a plumbing claim and a rekey one. The rekey was fine 'cause that didn't come with anything. The other one though, they didn't cover it and the plumber ended up charging me. There was also an air duct that had ripped so I wanted to see if they could fix it but it wasn't covered after all. For both of them, I paid $75 for somebody to come out here and tell me that they didn't cover it. I wasted $150 for nothing.

The AC wasn't turning on so my husband sent in a claim online. We have two different ACs and we had something go on several months ago with the downstairs one. But we weren't happy with the people who had come out. So when we submitted the claim for the upstairs AC, we asked if we could have somebody else. That was when Cote’s showed up and they were great.
One thing that we really, really appreciated was that the gentleman who came out immediately went outside, looked upstairs, came back and said he fixed it. Our AC unit is quite old but he said it was a simple fix. He also said that he knew we're gonna have to replace it at some time soon but if he could buy us a year, he knew that was important to us especially with COVID and everything going on right now. I was so impressed by that. We've been with Home Shield for quite some time now. Like with anything else, there's been the good and the bad. It was not necessarily Home Shield, but some people that came out for them. But we were very impressed with Cote’s. It was a great experience.

Kelly Brothers couldn’t come out ASAP but they scheduled. Then when we couldn't make it to the appointment, they were very accommodating. They put the fan in within minutes and we even made a friendly connection. Everybody’s friendly. We do hear a rumble on the fan and it does shake a bit. But the tech said that was because the fan that they had installed prior was discontinued, and that he said that we would just need to get a filler gap or something to adjust the shaking if we would turn it up that high. But otherwise, the installation was fine and we didn’t have any trouble. We've had American Home Shield for two years. When we rented a home here, the homeowners had American Home Shield as their home warranty. We had a bad experience with the previous home warranty company, so I just decided to go with American Home Shield. And I love them.

My AC wasn't cooling and I had to do reach out twice to American Home Shield for the same issue. The first time, they gave me someone who had a lot of bad reviews. The technician came out and kept telling me that it was the fan that was bad. The contractor came out six times and didn't fix the issue. So, I wound up calling back again within a month and the lady read off different places that I could choose from but I had to pay another deductible of $100.
The second crew did very outstanding work. The technicians came in and I explained to them the experience I had with the first crew. I told them that it was a leak and they checked that. They confirmed that it was leaking and fixed it. Right now, it's cool so it’s not an issue. But one day we had where the temperature was set to a certain temperature and it was four degrees hotter in the house. So, we’re monitoring that to make sure it doesn't continue to be an issue because we don't wanna wait. Still, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

I had water in my basement. The house is 45 years old and I don't think that the sewer line had ever been cleaned out. I filed a claim with AHS and I had to put it on an emergency basis because we weren't able to flush the toilets. Every time we did, water would come up in the basement. And my husband's handicapped. We spent two nights in a motel because of this.
TJ from Arnon Rooter was out here the next morning and he ran a camera down. He thought at first I had tree roots and there were no tree roots. He came out and did the Roto-Rooter thing, the snake from the main system, and two days later, I was doing laundry and there was water coming up in the tub downstairs. He came back out and did the little snake in the standpipe next to the washer. Now everything's fine. He was very competent and he did everything he could do. Also, he was honest with me about what was going on.
AHS has been good to us. The price keeps going up but that's pretty normal. My husband is simply not capable of doing anything to help anymore and everybody has been real good to work around my husband and all of his appliances. Last year, I replaced my 30-year-old refrigerator and they had to bring it up on the deck up to the back of the house because of the chairlift on my front step. They were real good about it. But everything was great. Good process. And Monday morning, the contractor showed up.
When the gentleman called me, he said, "Turn the unit off" and I didn't understand. It was my bad. I had to go to work. So, my daughter stayed. She had to turn everything off and the tech had to come back again. But what happened was, apparently, the unit got frozen. And because of that, that was what the malfunction was. The gentleman turned the unit off, and with a heat that day, which was about 102, it melted everything. He did a test. He put some more Freon and he reset the whole thing. It now works perfectly. My husband does claims with American Home Shield both online and by phone then we follow up. We had a claim for our dryer and a contractor was assigned to us. They called us and we told them that the dyer was not heating. They asked for the model number of the dryer and they ordered the part that they thought was needed. When the tech came out, he brought the right part, which is an igniter. He popped it in and it worked right away. Everything was great. But we felt like we got the runaround with the repair company. It took us three or four weeks. My husband had to make numerous calls until we finally nailed them down.
The problem was not with American Home Shield but with the contractor's customer service. My husband called and they haven't heard anything and they haven't been able to get the part. The rep was gonna call and check with the provider to see when they would anticipate having the part back in stock. But she never called back so my husband called and got the very same wording the second time. By then, my husband was getting pretty ticked. He let American Home Shield know what was going on and they called and talked with the contractor. After that, the contractor got back with us and said they were able to order the part and they were gonna set up a date to come out.
For another claim regarding our dishwasher, we had Sears as our contractor and they were amazing. Their tech came out, looked at the unit, and told us he couldn't do a replacement. We called American Home Shield and they said Sears had ordered the part even though the guy already said the dishwasher couldn't be repaired. American Home Shield said they could replace the unit. They followed up and we got a new dishwasher.
Aside from this house, we had American Home Shield in Iowa. Since we did the home warranty, we've had numerous things repaired and replaced. If something goes and it's due to normal wear and tear, they take care of it. If you wanna upgrade, you can pay the difference in the fees. I wanted a better and nicer dishwasher, which was a Whirlpool, so I had to pay the difference between what they were gonna give us and that. We've also gotten a washer replaced twice and the furnace underneath the house replaced. They paid part of that because part of it was due to faulty installation. It was 50% or 80% of it. We paid 800. The only thing about American Home Shield is sometimes when you call, you have to hold on the line forever to get somebody. But you can always place your order online too. We're just old and we like to talk to people.

The most recent claim we had with AHS was for plumbing. Initially, I submitted it online but we had a couple of plumbing issues and I wanted to put multiple claims under it. I wanted to ensure that they were all documented. There were limitations online so I called. Calling tends to be very frustrating. You can be on hold for an hour or more and then, there's the language barrier you have to try to overcome. Sometimes I don't know the accent. Also, you can't get in touch with the contractor. They receive the work order and if you wanna add to that work order, you have to go through Home Shield, which is cool but kind of redundant. Then, Home Shield can't put in the add-on until they contact the contractor. It has happened where the contractor came and they claimed they never knew of an add-on to the work order. I find there's always an issue with the communication between Home Shield and the contractor.
For this most recent work order, I had to call three times to ensure that they were able to contact the contractor to add that additional item in that work order. The first two times, they said they weren't able to get in touch with the contractor. I was adamant because I know how this process works. They said they would contact me to let me know that it's been added on and twice, I never heard anything. But the repair has been done.
In the contracting business, sometimes you'd get contractors that would say they would be out Monday and you wait till Monday and they wouldn't show up. I don't have that issue going through Home Shield but I wouldn't recommend it to someone for their own home. Once the contractors come out, items get repaired and that's the most important thing but it can be very stressful getting to that point with Home Shield.

When I first moved from California to Las Vegas, AHS was recommended. I've had it for 20 years and I'm sticking with them even though I'm in retirement and they are getting a little expensive. I filed a claim when I had a toilet that kept running. Two parts needed to be replaced. American Home Shield sent me Advanced Home Services and everything went very well. Their tech came and had the parts in the truck. They were common parts that had to do with the flow something and the flapper on the inside. Now, the toilet is working like it should. It's good.
I had Advanced Home Services here before for another problem. When I called in, I got American Home Shield's automated system and it was kind of a poor system. I had to call back three times because something was wrong with the system. I couldn't get Advanced Home Services' number or the system was giving me the wrong number. Something happened with, "Your ticket or complaint has been forwarded to Advanced Home Services." I had to go back in my file and look their number up in order to get that telephone number as part of the process. But they called me right away the next day. This was all over the weekend.
I understand automation and it does get a lot of things done quicker. But the elder people opt out of all this automation. 20 years ago, this wouldn't have bothered me. But like elder people that are still in their homes and still have American Home Shield as their provider, all this automation does not work for them. I don't think any company should just assume that because everything is online and you can do all of this stuff online.

The first guy came out and said, "Oh, you got too much of Freon in your air conditioning unit. That's just why it's not working." So, he took some Freon out and he left. The next day, I called back and said, "This idiot that came out yesterday took Freon out. It's still not working. What a surprise." Home Shield sent another guy out and he said, "Well, you're low on Freon." I said, "Yeah. You wanna know why? 'Cause your moron came by yesterday, he fixed it then left." You don't see anything wrong with it?" And he left.
When I called Home Shield back, I said, "I want a different company out here. I don't want those people ever step foot in my house again." "Well, we're gonna have to charge you an extra service call." I said, "No. You won't. I won't pay another $125 when this problem hasn't been fixed." "Well, okay. We'll waive that fee." They announced themselves and I greeted them at the door before they even rang the doorbell. I told them what the problem was and they said they would take a look at it. There were two techs and one was an apprentice. They were very professional and informative. One tech turned the water on and saw that it was dripping from the bottom. He said that after he ordered it, it would be shipped to me then I could put it in myself, and that has been three months ago.

When I bought my house, the company I bought it from gave me one year of American Home Shield and I continued that. I feel good about it. The claim process is okay. One of the features that I really like about submitting the claim with American Home Shield is if it's gonna be a long wait, they let you leave your number and they will call you back when they are available. You don't have stay on the phone for an hour.
The Service People have been out for a few different plumbing issues and they always fix them really well. I like them a lot. I live in a manufactured house that's 14-feet wide and 80-feet long. Most contractors will not get underneath my house to fix the plumbing. But The Service People will do that and they always fix issues promptly and efficiently like when I had a plumbing part that broke underneath the home and it needed to be replaced. They had to go buy some parts. Home Depot is the only place that carries parts for the plumbing I have in this house. The techs came right back and resolved the issue on the same day. They do that every time. I'm very happy with them.

A guy who works for GE named Danny came out the first time. My dryer was making a weird noise and he fixed it. Second time I called, he came out to fix my refrigerator because the water wasn't coming out. I loved Danny. He was really sweet and very informative. He was real quick and the refrigerator was working. He put in a new filter. Then he took the face off of the water and ice maker and he installed a new electrical thing. I watched him put that in and take the old one out. Then he gave me another one and then two or three more filters. I paid for that with a credit card because he sold me at a cheaper price. I could get more, so I did.
The last time that I called American Home Shield, the rep was weird. The water doesn't work again. He talked to me and he said they would have somebody come out. I told him that I was told that I wouldn't be charged another $100 for the same project. He said, "You're right. You won't." Then he told me he was gonna have to call GE and then call me back. So we ended our discussion and I waited for him to call but he never called back.

We have policies with AHS on two properties and have struggled thru 5 claims after 6 yrs paying premiums into the system. None of the claims came thru without us paying $1000s out of pocket for a full repair. Recent example, our A/C unit compressor shorted but AHS's contractor said we could not use the one he had at his shop and we have to wait 4-6 weeks (current temp outside 103) because it must be from AHS 's inventory of inexpensive parts they warehouse. Then we find AHS only covers the broken compressor and the contractor quotes $7800 to do the work and replace the Freon. (R-22 that is now obsolete). We can have the whole unit replaced with an updated R410a refrigerant for less from our trusted A/C contractor.
Another example of the same process, we had to wait several days for them to replace a garbage disposal which had to be their brand which you have never heard of and only lasted 9 months. We decided to replace the broken unit with a known national brand which has now been running for 4 years. Final 2 and most significant examples. We had a water heater break and flood our garage and a separate but similar incident 2 yrs later with a kitchen faucet flooding our kitchen, AHS had a water mitigation company rush in and tear half our walls and cabinets out without us realizing we needed to get our homeowners insurance on board first to understand how much they covered). Then AHS had their plumbing co. come in and replace our hot water heater. They installed the hot water heater before our homeowners insurance could get out to access full restoration of the walls, insulation and cabinets.
Ended up, our homeowners did not cover enough to pay the water mitigation and the restoration of the walls. AHS only paid for the water heater. We paid $3000+ out of pocket for the restoration of the walls and cabinets. We found out AHS's fraudulent nature when we had the kitchen flood. Same rush in with their water mitigation company without our homeowners insurance involved (they said they would contact and work with our insurance).
When it came to restoring the kitchen, the AHS chosen contractors asked how much money we got from our homeowners insurance claim and that exact amount or maybe more is what they were going to charge to restore everything. In other words a backed in bid not an honest one. Our advice, never use AHS contractors, always expect there will be more than AHS covers for a full repair and if your home owners does not cover enough for full restoration, that is out of pocket. Save what you'd pay for your AHS premiums over the years and use that to have reasonable repairs done without AHS's crooked contractors.

I am not the person who writes reviews for every little thing that doesn't go my way, but this has been a frustrating experience and I feel I should share with all others who are trying to protect their interest, beginning of August 2020 I had a leak in my bathroom from the shower plumbing, this leak was flowing into my basement and spoiling my basement bathroom, this leak was behind the walls, so I called American Home Shield and I was told that JED PLUMBING will come out only after I provide an access to this plumbing area, I called a third party to help with making a big hole in the wall, After doing so the Jed Plumbing company sent technicians couple of times with the wrong parts.
They in middle of August promised me that they will order and return with the correct parts, no answer from them in weeks, in-spite me calling them several times they would promise and still not return my phone calls, I was Tired of calling them so I started trying to reach out to American Home shield for help, I have called them 3-4 times, every time I call I have to explain my grave situation and the answer is, "We will call Jed Plumbing and get back to you ASAP," But still no call back or fix to my situation till 09/15/2020, my last call was to them today and still no response, I think it is useless to have a warranty service like this and I would rather just go without having it anymore, I advise anyone thinking to use them to think twice before doing so.

Very disappointed. This is what happened: Aug 05th: the service request for our dishwasher was submitted. A contractor was assigned to the job. They said two parts were needed for the repair. One of them was ordered immediately and the Parts Department said they had to locate the second one. Aug 19th: after two weeks since we did not hear back from the contractor, I called the American Home Shield to follow up. The customer service rep told me the Parts Department did not find the second part and you should expect to hear from us within 24 hrs for a possible replacement. Aug 21st: since I still did not hear back from AHS I called them again, this time the customer service rep told me they were able to locate the part and it was ordered on Aug 17th!!! And the contractor should have it by Sep 1st. I asked twice to make sure we are on track and the person assured me on that matter.
Sep 2nd: I called the contractor to see if they received the part, but the answer was negative. I called AHS and asked them to tell me what was going on. This time, the customer service rep told me according to the manufacturer the part may not arrive until the end of October. I asked them, "Why did you lie to me about the Sep 1st arrival date?" They did not respond. I asked to talk to their supervisor. They said, "He would contact you," which he never did. I e-mailed them but they never replied. They expect me to wait at least 3 months for a repair!!! And that is not guaranteed either!!! This is very frustrating. We haven't had a dishwasher for more than a month and AHS does not respond. They keep playing a game with us.

When I purchased my home, I was provided a year long contract with American Home Shield. Needless to say, I did not renew. In June of 2020, I noticed water in my basement and determined there was a pipe leaking from my second floor (and only) bathroom somewhere in the wall of my dining room. I placed a service request through AHS that day. I was assigned C Mayes Plumbing to diagnose and repair the issue. The first technician that C Mayes Plumbing sent out placed 3 holes in my wall and one in my ceiling to diagnose the issue (a failing T fitting in my soil stack), stating “AHS will cover to send a drywall technician out for these repairs” and then determined the bathroom vanity would need to be removed (which AHS would not cover) to provide access. I agreed that I would cover the cost of removing and reinstalling the vanity.
C. Mayes Plumbing apparently only partially reported back to AHS saying the vanity needed to be removed to provide access so AHS kicked it back to me and could tell C Mayes Plumbing to proceed until the vanity was removed. I arranged to have the vanity removed, but apparently “proceeding” was sending another tech out to diagnose the same problem again and not perform any repairs.
When the second tech showed, he asked if holes had been provided upstairs. I stated all that had occurred was that the vanity had been removed and that is all anyone from AHS or C Mayes Plumbing instructed me to do. He then stated AHS does like contractors placing holes in the walls. You could imagine my surprise considering the first tech didn’t hesitate to place holes in my wall and ceiling. Not only did C Mayes Plumbing take advantage of the situation by only partially reporting what the diagnosis was the first time so they could send another technician out to “diagnose” the problem again, AHS did not fully communicate with me (nor contact me at all) at all during the process so it was dragged out even longer. I had to sit on hold with AHS for upwards of an hour multiple times during this process in order to receive any information and often, it was in conflict with what another representative had told me previously.
After the second tech came out, I called AHS again in order to get the diagnosis and see if the work had been authorized. The woman on the phone stated I should have received an email from the authorization department (I had not) stating that they didn’t authorize the work. On two occasions, I requested hard copies of their denial be sent to my house so I have a record of it. I have never received any mail from AHS except to renew my contract. The woman I spoke to on the phone (Wednesday 7/15 at 5 pm) recognized how long this process had been going on and suggested that AHS provide a cash out (COD) for me to find another plumber to diagnose and repair the issue since they didn’t have another contractor in the area and that AHS just needed C Mayes Plumbing to sign off on not doing the work.
I had to call AHS back the next day and proceeded to wait on hold for an hour before speaking to a representative. This representative apparently had no indication that I stated I did not want to continue to work with C Mayes Plumbing and was offered the cash out option. I expressed that I felt like they were scamming the situation and would continue to take as much time/resources/money to fix the problem, which was quickly becoming an emergency.
Since this was my 6th time calling AHS and only receiving conflicting information, I requested to speak to a manager and, after waiting on hold for another hour, was told by Darel that they were going to find the recording of my conversation from the previous night and he would call me back with further details. I asked for a direct number to get in touch with him considering no one from AHS ever contacted me except when my contract first began in October of 2019. He stated that he did not have a direct line and that I could not contact him. Overall, I was told a total of five times that an individual I was speaking to would follow up and call me directly within an hour. Not one contacted me to follow up.
It is a massive game of telephone because I am unable to speak to anyone in the authorization department so I have to tell my issues to the representative who then relays it to the authorization department. Any time I pointed to a different portion of the contract stating that the work should be covered, the game of telephone continued with the authorization department hitting back with another part of the contract that, based on the contractor’s diagnosis (which provided false information about what was in the wall), stated they wouldn’t authorize the work. One of the reasons for denial that was provided referenced the ductwork section of the contract. However, there is zero ductwork within the wall that needs to be accessed to resolve the issue.
The website is not user friendly nor does it provide any information to the account holder other than the contract. It is strictly there for renewing your contract and placing service requests (both of which just put money in AHS’s pocket), and even then, there are no updates. The moment I placed my service request, it told me C Mayes Plumbing was assigned to it and I should hear from them shortly. Once I managed to schedule an appointment, the website stated that the service was scheduled and the moment the first tech left, the status switched to “Complete.” This status never changed and I never received updates. I plan on specifically telling any acquaintances, friends, coworkers, or family members to steer clear of American Home Shield.
We do apologize for the inconvenience and your work was not properly done. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience related to the plumbing and construction. We do appreciate you for sharing your experience, and allowing us assist. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

We had some electrical issues with one of the switches in the wall and I was also using the wrong light bulb in a ceiling fan. They were pretty simple fixes and the tech from Superior Group was a really sweet guy. He did a good job. We also had a bathroom fan that was hanging out of the ceiling. We thought that they got that corrected. But now, it sounds like that motor or something is wrong. So I was gonna call the tech back out to fix that fan back there.
We've had American Home Shield for a little over a year right now and we've had to use them three times. We send the money every month but a lot of times, I forget that I have the home warranty program. When my dryer wasn't working correctly, I almost bought a brand new washer and dryer. I was just gonna go buy a new one but the technician who came out for it was great. Our air conditioner also got fixed last year. So having AHS is worth the money. After you become acclimated to the process of submitting a claim, it's pretty simple. I got to where I'd submit mine online which was what I did with the last claim.

My AC was making a lot of noise and it wasn't cooling. The unit was freezing inside and it was dripping water. I was stunned when I made the call to American Home Shield about it. I put the claim in and I got a call immediately. That was good. A tech with Central Jersey Heating and Cooling came and he identified the problem immediately. Before he even got here, he told me to turn off the unit and just put the fan on. He would see what was going on when he gets here. When he got here, he saw that the unit was low on Freon and he fixed that immediately. He gave the unit a lot of Freon. He then put some dye in there to see if there was a leak in the line. Everything is working fine now. But I'm gonna have it checked this month.
But there is one thing that is a little crazy if you don't read the terms of the contract. It costs $100 for a tech to come here that I have to pay American Home Shield. They only give me a minimum amount of Freon, which is $10 and I have to pay for the rest of the thing. It cost me $400 to have the guy put the Freon in my AC. I was amazed that a very little portion was covered by American Home Shield. But then again, I didn't read everything so that was my fault. Otherwise, it's all good and I learned. Service-wise, the service was there and everything got fixed.

I was about to leave American Home Shield. I had a leak under my sink and the contractor said I have to take out what supports the pedestal so that they can check what's leaking. How would I take it off? I think it should be part of the service. I called Home Shield and they never addressed the issue. They said it's what's in the contract. I ended up going to somebody outside Home Shield and spent money to take care of it. The people I hired were able to fix it without taking that support of that pedestal. I appreciate American Home Shield but at certain times, I feel like their hands are tied on the gray areas.
Also, I felt like they should have refunded me that $100 I paid for because this was never fixed. I called the plumbing service at that time. They never responded back to me. I just got tired because it's so long just to get hold of Home Shield when you make a claim to follow up. But I was so happy with the service of Pennington Plumbing Service this time. I had a claim dealing with a plumbing issue where I had a leak in my guest bathroom downstairs, and then another claim was dealing with my air conditioning units. I found out that it was not properly working. I called American Home Shield's 800 customer service number. At that time, it was prompted that there was long wait times and suggested that I do it online. So I immediately hung up and did the process online. Within 24 hours, there was an acknowledgment of my service request and that it had been sent to dispatch and a representative would be calling me within the next 24 to 48 hours after I placed the call via email.
My interaction with both contractors was very positive. They came out and they were attentive to my needs. They identified the problem and immediately provided the resolutions that needed to be put in place to resolve my issue. The job was done at that point. I found out was that my AC unit had been struck by lightning and major components have been destroyed. After assessment, I was told that a claim could not be filed based on natural acts of God. So at that point, there was a recommendation that I had to have a unit replaced and I was open to that. The frustration was that they never got it resolved. As of today, I am almost 30 days and that still has not been resolved. So I'm not a happy camper and I'm looking at other sources to rectify that issue for me.
With the plumbing issue, the representative was able to stop the leak. But because it had been an ongoing leak, it got to that point that there had been ongoing damage. So I ended up having to file a claim with the insurance company, which was outside of American Home Shield. I'm still in the process trying to get that resolved. So it's been a pretty hectic summer since then.
I've been a customer for over 10-plus years but based on this experience, when it's time for renewal of my contract, I will not be renewing because I didn't get satisfaction. The process being displayed was not done in a timely manner. Even though the contractors came out, I was not satisfied that it was not done in a timely manner as far as the resolution. It took American Home Shield almost two weeks to respond that they were not gonna support the claim.
Good afternoon Terry,

It took about five days for the contractor to come out but when they did, they fixed everything on the same day. Then, the washing machine wasn’t draining and the tech from Care Appliance Repair checked it. The drainage pump had to be replaced and he said it would take about seven days and it took about that. Two different guys came back to fix it. The timeframe was fine and they did a good job.

We've had it since we closed on the house on July 13th of this year, and we've used it twice. The second time I did a claim, I didn't have any problems. The first time, I had a little bit of problem with it. But once I figured it out, when I did it the second time for the second problem, then there was no problem.

AHS sent Premier Appliance Repair out and the tech from there said that the issue was with the main circuit board which would have to be ordered. He said that it would take two to three weeks because of COVID issues. Still he explained everything and he was very good. When he came back, he explained what he had to do. He ran our washing machine through test cycles because his company doesn't want to come back and have to fix something twice He said that they would rather the consumer be happy.
Other people should not buy an extended warranty through stores like Best Buy. They should just let their warranty run out and have American Home Shield take over. Their warranty is like a golden policy for my house. Everything is covered. This is great to have for peace of mind especially these days 'cause there are so many electronic items in one's house. I would recommend AHS to anybody who asks. If they say they're gonna have warranty issues, I would say that I've had AHS and I've had no problems with them at all.

I’m very happy with AHS. When we bought our first house, our agent got us a year's worth of service with AHS because that was her gift to all of the homeowners who bought homes from her. That was in ‘99. I like that AHS saves us money. When something happens or goes wrong, we pay $75. I only had one problem and that was when our dryer went out. They said something got caught in a motor. The motor’s old and they couldn’t tell if that was the reason that made the dryer go out. AHS didn’t pay that. Other than that, I have never had an issue with them.
When we had an AC issue, they sent out AC Rescue. Their guy was very friendly and helpful. He checked what the problem was and fixed it. He wasn’t there very long but he had his mask on and everything. It was great. The problem had to do with an old piece. Once he took it out and replaced it, the house was cool an hour or two later. The AC is still blowing cold but I’ve meaning to call AHS this week because water’s running out of the little runoff where the water comes out of if the pan’s getting high.

I wasn't home and my husband called me and said that the pipe was leaking and that the basement floor was wet. I submitted the claim the next morning and Lenny's Plumbing came out and looked at it. It wasn't a leak. The issue was the way that the tub was set up. The spigot that came out of the wall where the water would come out was stuck off the wall and it had about three-eighths of an inch gap between the end of the spigot and where the wall was. The gap was big enough that you couldn't put silicone in it to plug it up.
The plumber was thinking was that my son might have been in there splashing around and was splashing water by this gap. Since there was a hole in the wall where the pipe was coming out, it was going behind the spigot and down the pipe, making it look like it was dripping. Unfortunately, the plumber couldn't really do anything because thee pipe wasn't technically leaking. So I had my own plumber come out and put a new head on it so it wouldn't leak anymore. It is all sealed up and caulked now.
The claims submission with American Home Shield was really easy and pretty clear. I tried to call in and the wait time was ridiculously long and I wasn't gonna wait. So I just figured out how to do it online. I didn't know who was gonna be coming to my house until I submitted the claim and paid the hundred dollars and hit “schedule”. Then the vendor called me within a couple of hours to let me know that it would be the next Monday when they could come out. I had to wait for a weekend which sucked. The person who came from Gabriel's Garage Doors was very good and he told me what caused the issue. Some of the items that they had to fix was not covered by insurance, so I had to pay something extra to take care of it. The service with American Home Shield is good but it's so hard to get somebody on the line. Maybe everything is recorded and automated, and you don't have somebody whom we can reach and speak with sometimes.
My AC broke about a week back. I'm trying to get somebody to come and fix it but the person whom they nominated is about 45 miles from where I live. They have not come for one week and today is the day they're coming. I'm trying to speak to somebody in the customer service and see that I can get somebody local to come and fix it for me. That will be faster. I need somebody on the other side. Waiting for 15 minutes is okay but I tried twice and it said one hour and 10 minutes is the wait time, which was a bit too much.

About a week and a half ago, I went into my son's bedroom and noticed that there was water on the floor. I looked up and I could tell that there was water leaking in the ceiling and there's an air conditioner unit in the attic above his bedroom. I went up and turned the unit off immediately. Water was pouring out of the air conditioner unit itself. I called American Home Shield. It took two days, but they sent the Airsmith Pro people out. The guy was very nice but he had no idea what he was doing. He took a little Gatorade bottle filled with water. He poured it down the drain of the pan. He said maybe the pan was clogged.
I told him I did go outside and there was water coming out of the condensate drain. That tells me the drain was not clogged. He said, "Maybe it was clogged 'cause sometimes due to ice buildup, the ice block unfreezes and all of a sudden, it causes this big thing of water." He also said there was one little piece of pipe that should be insulated. This unit has been installed seven years ago and I never had this problem before. I'm not a mechanical guy, but logically, why would all of a sudden this pipe be the problem?
He said he was gonna insulate the pipe and to call him back there was a problem. Sure enough, a day and a half later, same thing happened. I called on a Friday and the lady said they couldn't have somebody out till like the following Tuesday to follow up. The guy came back out and he said he didn't know what the problem was. He said, "Maybe it could be ‘cause the attic is hot and the air conditioner is cold, it's condensing." I said the unit has been here seven years. There was a unit there for 10 or 15 years prior to that. Lots of people have units in their attic. This is where it went off the rails. He said we should replace the pan, maybe the pan was leaking, it's a pinhole leak and we couldn't see it. He also said he was gonna call American Home Shield and we should replace the plenum box where all this water was. He was not really getting into the root of the problem.
He called American Home Shield and said because there was so much water, there could be mold. American Home Shield called us and told us they were gonna deny our whole claim. I said, "The hell you will. If you wanna send a mold person out here, I'm sort of interested. But he didn't fix the air conditioning problem." So they are sending out this week another person for a second opinion. They didn't give me any hard time about another person coming back out but we haven't gotten that person out here yet so it's not fixed. This is now going on for two weeks. Luckily, it's not the heat of the summer. But it's a lot of inconvenience and damage that I didn't expect them to pay for. I did drywall repair and paint. The first time, I'll say unavoidable because they can't fix what they don't know. But the second or third time it leaked, that should have never happened.
Right now, the unit's off. I Shop-Vac-ed it again yesterday and it's bone-dry. The only way I can be assured it's not gonna leak is if I keep it off. The guy is coming out 10:00 to 2:00 tomorrow. He wants it off 12 hours in advance which is tricky because that's what I did with the other guy. I turned it off so it wouldn't leak ad he said the problem was if it's off, he's not here long enough to replicate the problem.
I've used American Home Shield in the past for appliance and I've had no problem. They seem to be pretty good at appliance repair. But this is one of the first times I've had to use them for a system. They won't replace the drain pan 'cause this guy couldn't definitively say it was leaking. They also would not replace any of the ductwork. They only replace ductwork with normal wear and tear. My husband said, "Let's just sever ties with these people and get a normal company mechanic guy." I told him I've spent $60 a month for this very thing. If we bring another guy out that we think is competent, and he says the coil is bad, that's not a small fix.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I called American Home Shield but I couldn't get a live person on the phone. It was just a detailed description about the house isn't cooling. The AC is running but blowing hot air and AHS said that they would send somebody out. They sent in the claim and this company, Preventive Maintenance, called me probably within an hour. They called me on a Saturday so, the earliest they could get out was the following Monday and they were there right on time. They were absolutely phenomenal. I would use them on a personal level if I didn't even have AHS going forward. Everything is functioning like it’s supposed to. The warranty has been valuable so far. That AC repair was the only time I've used AHS but it saved me some money. I've already recommended them to several of my associates and friends that don't have any type of warranty. It's a good thing to have. You have insurance on your car and having it on your house is a no-brainer.

We’ve had American Home Shield in the past and this time, we had it just a couple of months. It seems like when we buy a new home, the home comes with a warranty for a while, and then it lapses and then we go back to it. So, we’ve had them off and on. I filed a claim years ago. I would rather talk to a human than a computer when I call them but I understand that's just the way of the world. We’ve only filed one claim this time. The AC was not cooling properly and my husband handled the claim. He didn’t complain so the contractor must have done a good job.

We had a leak and we saw that there was spotting on the first floor of the building. We didn't know exactly where it was coming from. When I sent in the claim, I tried to do it online and it didn't pan out. So I ended up calling instead. American Home Shield said they could get somebody out there soon and they would follow up with me, confirming when they could come out. Later on, they Hardy Plumbing was coming out and they gave me their number. I called Hardy to find out when they get could get out there. Then they came out and my sister met the tech on site. It seemed to go well. He looked at it and he was able to figure out the problem within a short period of time. He took care of it no more than one or two hours. He fixed it.
We have the policy on a rental property and we don't live in the area. We're about two hours away from where it's at and it's hard for me to get quality people out there when something goes wrong. So with American Home Shield, we figured we will be able to kinda cut out that middleman of searching and looking for different people to take care of different jobs. Now we can just call them, and they'll go through their list of contractors. They have pretty good-quality contractors and Hardy was a good example. We signed up for the policy because it would make us managing the property easier, especially if something went wrong because it's an older house. Also, it was reasonably priced because they give you a standard charge per visit. You pay them and they fix the problem.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

My most recent claim with AHS was for the garage door and the washer. I went online, logged into my account, and requested the work. It was good with the contractor that was sent out but I'm not so happy with the garage door repair because I had to wait almost a week to get it done. American Home Shield always seems to put people on the bottom of the repair list. For the washer, they had to come back because the tech had to look at the model I had even though I had told the rep who took the phone call what the model was so they can have the part on hand before they got here. It took another couple of days for them to come back with the part that they ordered. But overall, it's a good experience.

When we bought our first house, we had a lot of issues with it. Even though it was under warranty, they didn't repair it that good. One of my friends has the service of American Home Shield and she loved it and told me about it. So when we bought our second house, I looked AHS up and I have loved it ever since. I've had them for a while now. Every time they've come out, I haven't had any issues. Even I had one instance where we had a part got repaired and then a couple of weeks later, it went out again. We had no issues getting the person back out fixing it. We weren't charged so that was pretty good to me.
However, AHS should be vetting their companies they use a little bit better. We had one instance where we had a company that they use came out and they said it was something with my pipe, that it was a hole in the pipe. I was like, “My uncle’s a plumber. All you have to do is go in there and create another pipe.” But they told us that they had to go in and dig up the pipes, repair the whole pipe and they were gonna be $14,000.
American Home Shield told them no. I was like, "I'm not gonna do that. I'll find somebody else.” The people came back and they tried to get me to give them my homeowner's insurance information so that they could try to charge my homeowners insurance. That was ridiculous. I told them, “I'm not gonna give you the information.” They called me back a week later and was like, “We need the information so that we can go ahead and get it done.” I was like, “No, you're not gonna charge me $14,000.”
I called American Home Shield and they sent somebody else out. They went in and did exactly what my uncle had told me that they could do. It was like the previous company was really shady. That's the only company since I've had American Home Shield that I've ever had a problem with. All the other ones have been awesome. The contractor that came for our microwave claim recently was really good. The issue was that the microwave would turn on, but it wouldn't heat up the food. He said it was a melted switch. He just replaced the switch. It's been working fine, even better than before.

The only thing that I didn't like happened on Saturday and nobody can help that because nobody works on the weekends anymore. Other than that, that Monday was the first working day and they were here within two hours or so of the day starting. The whole thing was very efficient.

They said that if it gets bad and if the sound comes back, they would have to replace that. With this second fan, the claim is still pending and it's a matter of trying to get the American Home Shield to approve the contractor to order a replacement for it.
As far as dealing with American Home Shield's rep, that seemed to be okay. I sensed that American Home Shield would rather get it taken care of. But because of the COVID, I was on hold for how many hours trying to get ahold of them. Finally I dialed another number and they said they would call me back. Evidently, the second number is the one to call because then they would allow you not to be on hold. A guy named John called me back and he was trying to get ahold of the contractor while I was with him. But the contractor wasn't available so I was on hold with him for half an hour. He then said, "You know what? I'm not gonna keep you on hold anymore. I'll call you back when we get it done." All this was done very politely and cordially so everything was fine. He gave instructions that if we were having that problem, we need to put a little bit of Clorox into this tube and kinda blow in it. The solution didn't seem all that reasonable to me. But I said we'd give it a try. That worked for a day or two, but we're getting the same problem. So now, every two or three days the system goes off, we have to back up the car, pull down the attic ladder, climb up, and do that, which isn't a solution.
There had been a couple of previous calls earlier this year that I ended up canceling because there were more urgent issues. For example, one was water wasn't going down any of my drains at all. For me, that was an emergency. We couldn't flush toilets, couldn't use the sink, and we were gonna get a visit two or three days later. Unfortunately, it happened on a Saturday morning. American Home Shield said that the earliest they could get somebody is Monday or Tuesday. I canceled that call. One of the biggest things that stands out is when the contractors come to the house, they don't sit there and go, "Yeah, this is through so and so. We never get paid." They gripe about the other ones. This one, they're just, "Yup, American Home Shield." American Home Shield takes care of the contractors along with the people that have the home warranty. The folks that show up are able to identify the problem and on what parts need to be ordered. It's fixed the same day. Some parts are ordered and they're back in a day or two. You need to know what is covered and not because there are a lot of fine details and what is not and what is covered. It's just the fine detail you have to read to make sure that all things are covered as you expected them. For example, my garage is covered, but there are certain parts and stuff in the garage that are not. Just because it says the garage is covered doesn't mean that every anything that happens to the garage, the whole garage would be covered. It depends on what warranties are covering.

As soon as they told somebody to schedule an appointment, they automatically debited our credit card for $100, but the person claimed that they weren't available to come out. It was about 10 days before the person even came out here. They said they had to wait for the parts too. There was a motor on the dishwasher that was out, and then they were replacing some of the wheels that were broken on the racks. The part on the motor came in, but the contractor wouldn't come out to put it in because the wheels for the racks were on backorder, and it took three weeks.
Often, American Home Shield sends out the cheapest people available. We've always been able to get things fixed but it’s not very timely and it seems like we're accommodating their schedule, not ours. Also, all we can do is do the claim by phone and request a service. We can't ever call to talk to anybody and describe what's on or even find out, if indeed, it's covered in our policy. We have had instances where we were charged for somebody to come out here and then they come out and say, “Oh, we don't fix that. We tried to call and talk to them, and we have often been on hold for over an hour and we just give up.

And then within three hours, the tech was here on site. The tech replaced the coil outside, which had gotten something in it. It was a simple fix. I was very pleased with how quick Home Shield responded and that the issue was resolved within 12 hours of me notifying them. I hope that they would always work like that.

The air conditioner needed Freon gas to make it cool. The technician indicated that they were not gonna cover more than 10 pounds of Freon gas and that he needed to be paid the difference. So, I called American Home Shield and they confirmed that they would only pay for 10 pounds, which was almost nothing. I wasn't too happy with that. I ended up writing a check for $500 to make the difference so the guy could do the work. So for those who cannot afford to pay that amount, they won’t have an air conditioner and it's not fair. AHS doesn't tell you in advance that they only cover 10 pounds of Freon gas. The technician did the best he could. It was just that there was really a regulation that AHS needed to change so that it should be advantageous to both the customer and themself.
AHS keeps too much profit by not doing what they're supposed to do. Most of the time, homeowners don't recharge their air conditioners. They only do it once in five years. So, if AHS is only doing 10 pounds, they're not doing anything. Then within five years, we'll be paying them 2,500 because they charge a little over 500 a year. But they only pay less than $100 for Freon gas. Then our house is great and nothing is wrong with it. So they will pay out nothing but they’re taking a lot of money. That’s the thing that I feel like is a fraud. They shouldn't be doing that. They should actually support the homeowner. They went in to get it was because they needed help. So for AHS not to do that is not fair to the customer.
I had American Home Shield for a property in Covina. I still have it but it’s rental property now. When I had them, they would claim that they were sending a plumber and then they would just find somebody. They'd have somebody who was not even a plumber to show up with his snake. They'd go to Home Depot and buy a small snake, and they'd tell me that they wanted to do my sewer line. The guy told me the game that they just called him and he wasn’t the same plumber so he went to Home Depot to buy the snake.
Eventually, I got frustrated. I told the guy that he couldn't do the work and sent him out. Then I had to call somebody else and pay that person out of pocket to snake the clean-out at that property. So when we move into this new house in Rancho, the previous owner selected American Home Shield. AHS was asking for 600 and something to cover the AC and the whole house. But the other companies were charging like 400 or 300 and something. That was the reason why I stopped using them.
American Home Shield's system is they take your money, but they don’t want to do the work. They aggressively make you buy their contracts and they really pursue you to buy. When they lock you in into your credit card, they just want to be charging you. They don't care about delivering the product. If you have something for them to come out and do, they'll find a way to get out of it. They would find every means not to make sure they won’t do the work and that’s not good. That's terrible and it’s not honest.
We do apologize for the inconvenience and your work was not properly done. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience related to the air conditioner. We do appreciate you for sharing your experience, and allowing us assist. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

The hot water heater wasn't working. I opened a claim online with AHS and it was super easy and convenient. Then, they let me know what company it was assigned to and that the company would be calling. Within half an hour, the company called and scheduled an appointment. When they came out, they came on time and they were wonderful. The first time they were here, they replaced a part thinking that was the issue, but then it wasn't. The next day, they came back and replace another part and that corrected the issue. That gave us hot water, so no more cold showers. All in all, the procedure with AHS was really easy and convenient. Plus, they were very flexible.

American Home Shield is user-friendly and easy to manage even from overseas. It is very simple to use. If I have to make a call or a request, I can go online and input the problem. It's very convenient, especially when I was in Japan. I could do it all online. Plus the agency that I use can make the calls and the request also. I have a home that I'm renting through an agency. I was told was there was a problem with the AC and it turned out that there was a leak. American Home Shield sent out Breeze HVAC and they went up into the attic where the drip pan was. The drip pan clogged and was backed up. The tech cleared the issue that same day

Everything went kaput on our gas stove and the panel, and there was nothing on the screen. The service guy from 4A Appliance Repair came out. The issue had something to do with the electrical system. He got that back operational. Then, a few days later, the stove part didn't work, and we weren't sure if that was involved with what caused it to fault out four days earlier when he came out the initial time. But then he came out and he replaced the little part that lights the stove.
I did the claim online to American Home Shield. Their website was fairly simple to use, and it ended up working pretty quickly. I was told that the contractors would contact me within 24 hours. I was very happy with 4A Appliance. I talked with them, and they returned my call. He got out here quicker than I thought both times. He very quickly took care of the issue and he was really nice.

It's been great with American Home Shield so far. They get right with us and they get someone out. We used them for the AC unit and we had a good idea as to what was going wrong but the company that came out didn't wanna go look at what we knew was going wrong. I understand COVID stuff and they didn't wanna go in the house. But they gotta go in the attic to drain the line and clear it out so it'll drain properly. I had to argue with them to get them to go up there. But they said the service ticket didn't say to do that so I would have to call and get a new ticket. It turned out that's not necessarily the case. If there's an ongoing issue, they can continue it through the ticket that's already open.
The Cabot Mechanical folks came out and they have been great. They listened to what we know. Also, they're very knowledgeable and they took the time to explain what was going on. Their first visit out, we knew that some of the drain lines in the AC were clogged, two water sensors were no longer good. They fixed those and addressed the issues they saw with drainage. They got the drain pipes all fixed and everything appeared to be running fine. But with as much moisture, they saw things and they were a little concerned.
This last visit, the thing was not blowing right and there was a lot of excess moisture all over everything that they had hoped to go away once the drainage was fixed. But it didn't. It was getting just as bad, if not worse. The next time they came out, they did full diagnostics. The coolant was a little bit low and they explained that. They also found there was a gap in the return unit that was allowing attic air to get sucked in, which was causing a lot of condensation to occur. They addressed those issues.
Then the guy asked if where some of the insulation was way inside the unit had been freezing up but I had no idea. A few days after this last call, the AC was not working properly and the house was getting warmer and warmer. Air was blowing but it wasn't blowing very hard. I went up and looked just like the tech showed me to and sure enough, the coil had frozen up. I called for them to come back out and address whatever’s causing that.

Sears came out and looked all over it, determined that there was a hose that was not attached. The tech fixed it and checked it, it works and he left. I'm selling the house. The other person's inspector said that the AC was not working properly. He said that the compressor mount was cracked and there were a couple of things like that. I needed to get it fixed. So I called American Home Shield and their tech came out on time. He was on point and he knew exactly what he was doing. He was really nice and professional. He said that the compressor was mounted to concrete and not to a plate on the side. He went through everything that the guy did or said and he showed it to me. He wrote his own work order for it and worked out perfectly. He did wonderfully and everything was great.
There was nothing wrong with the AC before. I didn't have any cooling or heating issues with it. But there were some screws missing from the fan cover which was causing it to rattle a little bit and one of the pipe didn't have foam covering on it. So he put those two on it to make sure everything was good. While he was there, he took care of everything that he was supposed to and it worked just as it did before. But it's quieter. I've always had great experiences with American Home Shield. I've used them three times since I've had you in the last three years and I've never had any issues with anything. Everybody has always been great.

When the guy came out the first time, he said that it was a couple of wires on the outside system with the fan that melted. He cut those, rewired them, flipped the breaker, and then it worked. That only lasted a week and then, it felt like the unit was not maintaining the temperature, so we called again a second time. A nice guy then came out and he checked everything. We went outside and we realized the fan wasn't turning. He ordered a new fan, came that Monday, and put it in. Everything has been working fine for the last two weeks, but we're having issues again. The fans on the system are pulling air, but it's not cooling the air. I'm assuming it's something inside the house unit and that's where we're at right now. They're supposed to come out today and take a look at it.
I do pest control for a living, so it's a big difference between what goes on in the office and what happens in the field. All American Home Shield could do was send the people out, and then hope that the contractors that they have come out do their end of it. I understand that and there are all kind of technicians. It is the luck of the draw of what kind of technician you get out considering what kind of issue you're having. Some are very detail-oriented and some are not. I don't wanna put everything on Home Shield if a technician may be occupied with something else. That's not on them. It's also really hard to make Home Shield responsible for that now, unless, they continue to use a company that gets a lot of substandard ratings.
When we've had issues with our AC in the past, it's only been one thing a summer and it's fine. It got fixed and it got handled. On the basis of that, things worked out well and we're glad we have the warranty. With this particular issue though, because this is the third time this summer, I'm anxious to see what will happen and what will be suggested. My wife also had to wait on hold for a long amount of time the second time we called, but then, that's not something that we could complain about. When I called this Saturday evening at 7:30, I figured I'd be on hold for a while, so I had the phone on speaker. I was watching TV and then I got through and talked to somebody in two minutes. I was on the phone for five minutes total.

The last straw was my drains were starting to clog up and they refused service. So I canceled them and now they say I have to pay them for the rest of the contract period. I have two service orders pending (one for 5 weeks another one for 9 weeks) that AHS wouldn't get fixed. I have two air-conditioning units that are broken and need fixing. The first work order was issued on July 1st and the second one on July 30th. The first unit was installed by an American Home Shield (AHS) contractor, DMC Di Dolce Mechanical, in 2018, who had charged me $3,847 for the installation despite of having the American Home Shield Warranty. The job was done poorly, which was causing the drain pipe to fill up and trip up the A/C unit causing it to shutdown. This was confirmed by two separate contractors that American Home sent to verify (Liberty Heating and Airconditioning and L&F HVAC).
After dozens of calls over the 10 week period I made to the American Home (in coordination with their parts department and the contractor relations department), they kept on reassuring me that they will get it fixed, first by DMC Di Dolce, and then by L&F HVAC (after DMC refused to even answer their calls). They kept on offering me a meager cashout of $1,540, which makes me responsible for the repair! If that is all they can do, then why am I paying nearly a $1,000 in premiums every year for the past 5 years and then pay $106 every time a contractor comes to check out what's wrong with the insured item!
The second unit had an issue with the compressor (July 30th), and I authorized the repair by agreeing to pay $495 out of my pocket (August 7th) while AHS would send a new compressor to L&F for installation. AHS claims that the compressor was sent to L&F on August 14th. However, today is September 9th and L&F still maintains that they haven't received the compressor!
Dealing with AHS is frustrating, as every customer service rep sympathizes with me and promises to follow up but they really don't! I have asked to speak to their supervisor for at least two dozen times but no one calls me back. AHS is poor at running their business and collect thousands of dollars in premiums and then are not able to service their obligations when the claim is made! I have had a similar experience in 2018 when my microwave and the condenser coil had to replaced. It took them months! I would not do business with this company again.

I would put 0 stars if I could. I just bought a house and found out my AC unit is too small to completely cool down the house. I've been using a window unit since I moved in a few weeks ago. I paid $75 for a service fee and when someone came out they said since it technically isn't broken, they won't do anything. The tech they sent, plus one I used before, both said we needed a 3 ton unit and the 2.5 was too small for the house.
I've called AHS multiple times and get different answers each time. The last time I spoke with them, they said they couldn't make the unit bigger due to restrictions on my warranty but they could upgrade. To which my response was, "Fine, at least do that." I called them back today for an update and now they say they can't even do that. I asked to speak to a manager and she continued to say that wasn't covered. Living in Texas, summers get to 115 degrees out here so I need a working AC unit for my house. This is ridiculous. Why have a warranty company if they won't fix something that isn't working properly? Safe to say, won't be using them again.

My air conditioning system went out and it wouldn't work. At first, the air conditioning people came out and they looked at the problem. They diagnosed the problem as an electrical problem that was causing the air conditioner not to work properly. So the electrician then was authorized and diagnosed the problem. It appeared that there was another problem. Another electrical goes in the same line with the box up in the furnace room. So he traced it down, found it and fixed it. He did an awesome job. He did it in one day. It's all working fine now.
I'm very satisfied with the claims process. It was easy to do. The only difficulty I had was the length of time from once I reported the problem and the air conditioning people could come out. It took them about five days and with 100 degrees temperature, that was not good. But I appreciated the fact that they probably were inundated with calls because of the weather. Once they got here, it was all fine.
When I had a blocked main sewer line, the people that Home Shield assigned was gonna take a week to come out. I couldn't operate for a week without my sewer line being functional. One of the other contractors available was the people that I used before I had Home Shield. If I had known that, it would have been easier for me to contact them because they knew the problem. We had a problem with the dishwasher and American Home Shield initially had us with Lowe's and for whatever reason, Lowe's couldn't do it for weeks. So, I did contact American Home Shield and had them release us from Lowe's, so we could get another vendor. They did. Miller Appliance Repair came out in probably half the time and was able to fix it. I really liked them. They really did the best job of all the vendors I've used so far.
We also had a washer issue and somebody came out and replaced the whole inside of it and said it was brand new. Inside of a week, it broke again. So rather than go through the whole process because that took two and a half weeks to get somebody out here, and somebody in the neighborhood was giving away a free one, so I just got that and got rid of the one that I just spent money to get fixed because I didn't wanna wait another three weeks for him to come out and fix it again.
I've had good experiences with American Home Shield. It's nice that you can just go online and immediately get something booked. The only issue is sometimes it's a pretty long lead time until you get someone. I've been in the game for a while. I think if you're a paying customer and not on an insurance plan, you would probably get more preferential treatment. I imagine that these vendors know that they're only getting so much for this call because I'm on an insurance plan and so I don't get top priority. So sometimes I'm pushed out. That's the biggest drawback from my perspective.

I filed 2 claims with American Home Shield - one was for a water heater and the other one was for the tub. I received a phone call saying that they received the order and that someone would come out and take a look at everything and determine how to proceed. I was also given a text on the day of the schedule that the contractor would be coming out. Within an hour of the person coming, he sent me a phone call and said they would be there around the specified time and they were there. They looked at the tub, said that there was some type of leak and that they could not repair it. For the water heater, there was a corroded piece that was presenting a leak. They replaced that fitting and did a great job with that. They were very friendly, customer service oriented and knowledgeable concerning the plumbing issue that we had. That was really good.
Everything has been fine but unfortunately for the tub, I was told that the claim was denied because it was the tub and not the pumps and jets. Had they investigated a little further, they would’ve realized that it was the jets that was the issue. I've called in to American Home Shield and could not get beyond the customer service person. I was also charged twice - one by HSA warranty and the other one by American Home Shield for the exact same amount within 45 minutes of each other for my card.
The issue still hasn't been resolved and I had no interaction with anyone concerning letting me get beyond the customer service person. They said, “We don't see where we charged you twice.” After four calls, I would think they would say, “Let me try to look further into this.” But she was adamant about that. I asked to speak to someone in Accounting and she shared with me that there's no accounting department but she said, "Fax to me proof that you were charged twice and send it to our accounting department.” American Home Shield was really good as far as their service and someone coming out. They were really informative. But getting beyond that initial call was not a good experience at all. American Home Shield has great reviews from other family members who’ve been with them but this was our first experience with them.

My house has three air conditioning units. It's hot here in Texas and the AC units need to be replaced regularly. When that happens, the out-of-pocket for it is about five grand if you don't have a home warranty. With the home warranty, it is not free. But it is somewhere between a quarter to a third of the cost. Last time, it was 800. So that makes American Home Shield worth it for me.
When you call in, whoever you're talking to is clearly a call center that's out of the country. But they're very polite and well-trained. You could tell they're going through some steps that they're supposed to be going through, and they always do a good job of that. A friend of mine also has American Home Shield and she's never used it. But one day, her hot water heater broke. She called the warranty company and three days later, a contractor still didn't come out. I was a little concerned because my husband has already issues and we can't be without the air conditioner at that time. It was like 90 degrees. But we didn't have a problem. In fact, they wanted to come out the day we called but my husband and I weren't gonna be here. That was on a Friday. They came out Monday morning.

There was an issue with the water pan underneath the air conditioner up in the attic. Obviously, there was a blockage in the condensation drainpipe and I couldn't find it so I had to use Home Shield to send somebody. They sent Thermal Tech Heating and the tech said the same thing. He went downstairs and found the drain pipe. It’s a two-story house so the drainpipe is down on the main level. Then he just cut it back and then there was mud there. Everything is doing fine now. The guy was on time. He did a good job and he was quick about it too.
I've had American Home Shield for three years. The first time I used them was when the drain line right at the elbow inside the house and my basement to the septic tank was broken. It was leaking there. But they went through my foundation wall to outside my house. The technician told me that they had to cut it outside the house but Home Shield wouldn't pay for it. So I went back and forth with them for a long time. I even talked to the people at Home Shield. I still think it's an error. I have a bad taste in my mouth about it, but life goes on.
I'm in my 70s so I can no longer get on a ladder or do any of that stuff so I have to have somebody do it. American Home Shield makes it easy for me. I rather go through an entity that I know of that can send the people out right away. I feel relatively comfortable now that it's gonna get the job done. I had that one terrible episode with them. But I thought I'd try them a couple more times before I got rid of them and they came back and sent me other people that had done decent jobs.

On Saturday, I sent my link to say I'll accept the e-card to go get a refrigerator from Home Depot. It hasn't come yet and today's the expiration so I hope there's no problem. But the customer service of the visit was fine. They'd been out before. It was great then and it was great this time. The guy came out and assessed the issue. He said, "This is what needs to be fixed. I will refer this to AHS. They'll let me know whether to fix it or if they're gonna just replace it. We'll be in touch." It was pretty straightforward. They were timely, professional and friendly. I had issues though with a particular one or two claims. When I called in to American Home Shield about the air conditioner, the staff members who answered the phone didn't have the information to give me on whatever was going on. Otherwise, everything has been good.

American Home Shield is excellent. When we submit a claim, we just call AHS up and then they're very timely in calling us. However, sometimes the service people aren't so good. Now, I've learned who's good and who isn't. I check the reviews right away based on who they're gonna send out. If the vendors are terrible, then I'll call and request someone else. But the air conditioning problem recently was handled very well.
A little bit of a problem this year, because of COVID-19, I've had to be on hold for an hour trying to talk to a real person. We had another problem with our oven, where the bottom half of the oven had a problem that the vendors couldn't fix. It was just a light issue and the part was not replaceable. AHS was going to give us a certain amount of money to replace the oven, but it was only really half of what it was worth. I paid for another person with American Home Shield to come out to just disconnect the light because the oven still works just fine, rather than us have to pay out of pocket, more money to just get the whole thing replaced.
There had been a couple of instances, we had a hot water heater problem and the vendor took five weeks to fix it, and then would charge us more. On the reviews, when I looked at this company, a lot of people had the same experience with them. The next time something happened, I definitely requested not to have that certain company come out.
But overall, we've been very happy with AHS. So far, so good. We've owned the house 20 years so we've had numerous things happen over the years, and I've never really had a bad issue. They replaced my washing machine recently completely when that went out. The vendors tried to fix it for weeks, but when they couldn't, AHS replaced it. My only complaint would be that sometimes, it drags on a few weeks before they're able to determine whether they can really fix it or not.
I know that certain things that are large-price items, like a hot water heater, or an air conditioning unit, or ovens, AHS is well worth it to have because those can cost thousands to replace on your own, and AHS replaces them. So for us, it's been good. We bought an older home. Over time, there had been certain large items that have had to be replaced and they had been covered.
